Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Boom, What Up America, Doug
Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio coming to you live and
direct from the City of Angels, where we await to
see who wins Tonight's Game five, where Geo Gonzalez will
take uh, take the ball for the Washington Nationals that

(00:24):
was announced about an hour ago, So Geo Gonzalez will
try to advance the Nationals something they have not been
able to do um and then take of course on
the defending champion Cubbies. Remember we're kids and they we
used to call everything world champs. Remember then, I don't
if you're not old enough to remember, but the NBA

(00:46):
champion we used to call world champions. We used to
say the exact same thing about who won the World Series,
even though there really isn't any other league as competitive.
We just used to say it in kind of all
of our arrogance and a little bit of our truth.
What I find fast absolutely fascinating about last night's Yankees

(01:07):
win five two over the Cleveland Indians is that Terry
Francona is now Terry Francona. What was the six elimination
games in which his team has been eliminated six decisive games,
which and and because he hasn't been able to get
the Cleveland Indians, who have won a World Series over
the hump, do we now call him a question Terry Francona.

(01:29):
And because the New York Yankees won last night, and
because or Aldis Chapman got a six out save Joe Girardi,
who was on his way out of New York. Matter
of fact, in a press conference earlier this week, he said,
the Yankees future is right, not our future is bright,
being many to speculate. He don't have a contract beyond

(01:51):
this year. He must be done now, Girardi. It take
the National Guard to get him out of Yankee Stadium.
Or as Terry Francota, I don't know he's that good. Um,
I understand that to the victors go the spoils, right.
It's it's one of the weird things about those um

(02:14):
Civil War monuments in the South for losing generals, right,
like losing general gets a statue. I didn't know that.
Didn't think that's a great idea. Forget about the fact
that the Confederacy was divisive in terms of their desire
to keep slavery alive and well forget about that. Just
the idea that you lost. We don't. We don't like

(02:35):
a statue up of of somebody who lost the war,
which is not usually I mean, I guess with the exactly,
with the exact, with the exception of you know, Davy Crockett,
remember the Alamo, they lost that fight. But though I understand,
to the victor goes the spoils, Like we did see

(02:58):
that Aaron Judge was a win mill, right, I mean,
he had three games in which he struck out four
times or more. And to anybody's like, look, this is
what he does. He's lot home runs and he strikes
out a lot. That was that That was a very

(03:19):
pronounced That was Aaron Judge to the second or third
degree in terms of strikeouts to hit ratio, Like are
you freaking kidding me? But to the victors go the spoil.
So now any of all anybody's talking about it, well,
you know, now I've got another shot. Whereas to the Indians,

(03:42):
you call into question so many different things about their
twenty two game win streak when it's really this simple.
If they get anything close to what they got out
of Corey Kluber in the regular season in this series,
they move on, and because they did not, they did.

(04:02):
Note it took a Grand Slam home run in Game
two to get him off, to get him off the
loser side, losing side, and then in like in look
in game five. This is one of those deals to
where I understand it's a shortened series. I understand the
small sample size. I get that, And so sometimes it's

(04:27):
a false equivalency. You know, what we get in the
playoffs is not necessarily who these guys are. But but
if you want to tell me you're the best picture
in the American League for the second consecutive year, right,
that's what you want to tell me with the QUI kluver,
you want to tell me you're the best picture? Can
you pick up the ball once in October and be good? Like,

(04:51):
I'm not asking a ton here and to anyway, said well,
Clayton Kershaw. Clayton Kershaw has had bad outings. Those bad
outings have been in the seventh inning, mostly against the St.
Louis Cardinals. This guy couldn't get to the third inning,
fourth inning, fifth inning without a mess, without just leaving
a mess. And so yeah, maybe I'm asking something that's

(05:14):
not fair, but that's the judgments that we have to make.
But it's interesting to me on how we talk. We'll
talk about Francisco Lindoor struggling with the bat, which he did.
Um he and others struggled for the Cleveland Indians, But
so did I mean Aaron Judge was a joke. Aaron

(05:36):
Judge was a joke. And we're not talking about Gary
Sanchez couldn't couldn't catch the ball in Game one. We're
not talking about the fact that we look Cec stepped up. Now,
when it goes bad for Cec, they start to hit
him in a Now you realize why Girardi took him
out after seventy seven pitches during his first start, because

(05:57):
once it goes bad and they start to once again
third time around the order, they start walloping on him.
But he was really, really good early on. He looked
like a guy who had been there, done that, and
he had complete and total command and control, whereas Cluber
frankly did not. And then you have the ninth inning

(06:17):
at bat, what uh to anyone else? It goes down
as just any sort of a bat you know too,
they were already up a run. It's insurance runs. It
was fascinating to watch. Now, Baseball's ridiculously long and three
and a half hours in where all as Chapman was

(06:40):
sitting for a long time, but it was an at
bat to which it felt like, uh, and I'll I'll
quote Dan Buyer, who was kind of kind enough you'll
hear him on updates and throughout the show, who was
kind of to buy me lunch. This is a great line.
With every foul ball, you were like, Indians aren't winning
this game because you just all right, he's sitting there,

(07:01):
Chapman sitting there. He's sitting there. He's sitting there. He's
gonna be odd ice. He's gotta walk around like with
with every foul ball that Cody Allen threw and Brett
Gardner fouled off like that, that to me is baseball,
all right. You get like a twenty one pitch at bat,
some crazy sort of at bat wherever he just fouls

(07:24):
off everything. And this goes to the analytics guy that
say that that uh, protectional lineup doesn't matter. That's bowl
because Cody Allen knew that if you walked Brett Gardner,
if he gave up, he wasn't John Smaltzen sitting up there,
who has been a start starter and reliever, and he's like,

(07:45):
he needs to throw a curveball in the dirt because
right now he's gonna chase anything he sees. He's just
fighting everything off. And instead he throws a strike eventually,
and Bretton Gardner laces a single and Aaron throw ends
up Playton two runs because there was another error previously
in the inning. But the fact is that if Aaron

(08:08):
Judge isn't behind him, Cody Allen wouldn't fear coming out
of the game, right if Judge comes up, Joe Smith's
coming in, which is Joe Smith came in anyway, And
if you load the bases, you put Joe Smith in.
And Cody Allen knows he can't fight for himself, so
instead he's trying to throw a strike after strike after
strike after strike. But the Indians almighty bullpen let him

(08:36):
down at times. Right, Let's just kind of be honest.
Andrew Miller threw one bad pitch, but that lost in
the game. They're best starter let him down twice. He
only lost one game, but he made it so they
had a miraculous uphill climbing Game two and the New
York Yankees got just enough out of their pitching staff,

(08:58):
just enough out of their open even though they got
nothing out of Aaron Judge and D. D. Gregorious ends
up kind of carrying them, carrying them offensively. Fascinating baseball.
Did you watch the whole thing? Music? I did? Um?
Kind of weird to be kind of rooting for what

(09:20):
felt like a likable Yankee team, didn't it? It is
weird to think about. Like there's certain teams, whether it's
like the Lakers, the Yankees, and like Alabama football or
like USC like you don't ever imagine that those teams
are allowed to be the underdog. But somehow the Yankees
have turned themselves into the underdog Ramos. Did you watch?

(09:40):
I did it? And I don't like the Yankees at all,
So I don't know why you guys are talking about
the lovable. I don't think the lovable at all. It's
a likable for the Yankees is a likable team, right
c C uh c C kind of three point oh,
you know, coming off the addiction to alcohol, uh c
C kind of in thirty nine years old, going back
into clear Lynn and throwing curve of after curve ball

(10:02):
after curveball, like I don't know. I just between d
D and I mean, Judge up there just gripping, gripping
his bat so hard and swinging so mightily and missing
and them still finding way. I don't. I look, I
don't love the Yankees. I got a buddy who plays
the Yankees, or should be playing for the Yankees, playing
a lot, and played it at all. That's more than

(10:23):
not a lot. Yeah, I mean, and I get it, like,
all right, he want to use them against the lefty
and Chase Headley is going against right He's but Chase
Headley can't hit anything. I found myself kind of rooting
for the Yankees, and I found myself utterly disappointing. Corey Kluberg,
I just did fired. Would you end up like you're
a Brewers fan and you got CC who was a

(10:46):
Brewer for just a short period of time. They used
them all they could as well. I think there's something
neat about these Yankees, and I really think it's because
there isn't a huge, big money guy. I'm I mean
that you think I do Elsbury makes money, but it's
not like an a full lineup of just free agents

(11:06):
they brought in. You know, Gardner has been there a
long time. Judge comes up, Sanchez comes up. I think
that's what's I think that's what's appealing about this Yankees
team as opposed to maybe the other ones that we
had seen over the last ten or fifteen even though
like Jeter was, you know, still look with everything else
that came with it, they became the evil Empire. But

(11:28):
no question, unlike the Dodgers, who just go out and
buy championships, the Dodgers have plenty of homegrown The plenty
of Dodgers are home grown as well. They do sprinkle
in the U darvish Is of the world as well.
All right, we'll get back to baseball. Maybe tape a
couple of your calls on baseball. Uh, Steph Curry said
something interesting about stars picking the All Star teams. We'll

(11:48):
get to that later on the hour. And Uh, Cam
Newton's gonna play tonight. I'll relate Cam Newton to Colin Kaepernick.
The biggest difference in the two is not the protesting.
I'll I'll point that out. But up next, the Chargers
finally got their first win of the season, and something
happened at the end of the game which I thought
showed the metal of their highest paid defensive player, Melvin Ingram,

(12:11):
will join us. Did he think at o and four
they'd never win a game? Talk some charge of football
just around the corner. But first, would you like to
save sevens? Right now? Would you like to get in
the best shape of your life? What if you could
save seven hundred dollars while getting into the best shape
of your life? Sounds too gonna be true? Well, now
if you call eight four four eight three seven six

(12:31):
four four three right now, that's because frog Pro training
systems can be used in your living room, hotel room, office,
take it outside, light your competitive fires, burn off pounds,
and tighten and tone every muscle in your body. And
since the frog Pro training system works every major musseler
at the same time, it's like an all out full
body sprint and woulce you like to have the body

(12:52):
of a sprinter. You've seen their bodies on fire. Frog Fitnesses,
Houston based company was affected by the recent devastating floods
of Hurricane Harvey, so they moved thousands of frog protraying
systems out of the downtown warehouse and they've got to
make room for the new inventory. So here's the best
way to get a great deal while getting in the
best shape of your life called eight four four eight
three seven six four three. That's eight four four eight

(13:14):
three seven six four four three, or you can order
it online at frog Fitness dot com or on Amazon
that's Frog f R F f R O G Fitness
dot com. With True Car, you can find out what
other people in your area paid for the same car

(13:34):
you're looking for and on average save over three thousand
m s r p. Whether you're looking for a new
or used car, Visit True Car and enjoying more confident
car buying experience. All right, so this is actually Melvin
Ingram's one of his new singles. Right, this is not terrible,

(14:05):
It's not bad. That's not even close to the worst
thing I've ever heard. Melvin Ingram will join us in
in moments. L A Charger formerly San Diego Charger, formerly
of South Carolina, South Kraka Latin and of course uh
A a noted rapper part time rapper as well. So
we'll we'll ask him about the Bolts finally getting their

(14:27):
first win of the year. Yes, music, is that better
than Like Shocks rap or Kobe's rap? Definitely better than
Kobe's definitely better than Kobe's. Okay, um, you know, like
so much of it. Now things are produced a lot better.
But for these guys, then if you go back twenty
years ago, right, just is it's so much easier to

(14:48):
do on your own, and then you know now that
you're in l A. I'm sure it's probably easier for
him to do. But I don't know. I I would
say it's better, at least better. It's definitely better than Kobe's,
and um, I don't know if it's not better than
Shacks as well. Melvin Ingram joins us in the Doug

(15:11):
Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio. We were just
playing one of your one of your rap songs. Um,
I said, better than Kobe. Do you think better than
it's better than Shacks rap? Yeah, I think I'm one
of the best to ever do it, to be honest,
really like eminem Caliber man, Yeah, I definitely all right. Well, uh,

(15:31):
we'll have to let the people decide and they'll do
so either, downloads Melvin Ingram joining us. How much different
is it this week going to work after actually having
finally won a game. It's still the same, Really, it's
still the same. We still come in working doing our
same thing. Man, we're coming in would have mentally that
we got some world we're trying to get and we're
coming in and working every day. Man, you signed a

(15:52):
four year, sixty six million dollar deal in the off season,
forty two million guaranteed, and the people I know in
the Church Charges organization said that you had your best
camp of your career this year and that that was
that's a big thing. Normally in the NFL, guy signs
a big deal and he comes in, he's a little fat,
little sassy. Did you it was that something you had
to think about, like, look, I gotta I have to

(16:13):
play at a higher level because I'm getting paid at
a higher level. No, No, I I just came into
teage to do what I've been doing. Man, I just
came in. I worked harder in the all seasons, came
in and continue to work, work, work, and trying to
get better aspect of my game. I didn't think I
got to play at a high level because I feel
like I already play at a high level. I'm I'm
giving him my hall every time melvid Igraham joining us

(16:33):
on The Gotlip Show. I noticed that late in that
game against against the Giants, they had a bunch of
injuries and you got you got dinged, you got injured,
and they were trying to take you off the field,
but because of the time out, you didn't have to
come out for for a play. Uh. That that to me,
that was like a leadership thing to me. What happened.
It's like it was almost the next to last defensive

(16:55):
play of the game where you kind of pushed off
the trainer. Hey, I gotta get back out there. Take
me through that conversation. No, I was just I had
just think my elbow a little bit, and and I
was always taught as a kid, if you ain't if
you ain't injured, you can play. So no matter when
the game on the line, I feel like I need
to be on the field to be there with my
brothers and go to war. So it's me and him

(17:15):
was just talking. I'm like, man, I'm good, I can
I'm all right, And I just went back out of there.
How hard is it to personally have a good season, right,
Like you already have seven a half sacks on this season,
like you're having statistically a very good year. You ask people,
how are you great out Melvin Ingram is having a
good year. But what what's it like to be personally
recognized while your team struggles to get those wins? Uh? Really,

(17:37):
it really don't mean that if you personally recognize that
you ain't getting to win, because football is definitely a
team sport. And now I feel was something like to
offer something cool or box and cool, but it's it's
a team sports. So I'm in this thing to get wins,
no matter what's going on. We gotta we got some
movie trying to get it. We're trying to get wins
to get to a super Bowl. So no matter how
much you get singlely pointed out, you want to be

(17:58):
pointed out collectively as a group. Hey, um, you know
this hoodie Meil thing. You know you can't do hoodie Meil.
You can't do that's hoodie Mellows already taken. I saw
in your Twitter Twitter account that the Chargers tweeted out
you with a hood on and you're calling yourself hoodie Meil.
That's that's biting on Mellow style. And then Mellow one
of my favorite players. Though, Man, I know, but so

(18:20):
are you? Are you? You you're noted you're copying him?
On purpose though, right, So that's not I wouldn't I
wouldn't say copying him. I wouldn't say copy. It was
just funny. I just did it because I do it
around the locker when we we get it from the
hoodie mellow thing and I just we just put a
hood on and laugh around the locker room. My hoodie
mail people are nationally melvin Ingram joining us from the
l A Chargers getting ready to take on the Raiders

(18:42):
their arch rival's Doug Gotlie show. Fox Sports radio people
nationally uh are pointing out that there that you guys
haven't been cheered for lustily at a home yet, that
they're actually booze because you know, like the Eagles fans
came in and loaded up the stadium, the Kansas City
Chiefs fans came up and loaded up the stadium. What
does it feel like as a player to run out
on the field and stop up. Oh, it feels good

(19:05):
to me to think about me And I don't hear
bools up cheers. I'm not there a lot zone there
for football, man. I don't really hear nothing in the outside.
And I feel like if we do our part in
guayd to win I feel like the standard fill up
with Um. Look, you and Joey are an incredible, incredible tandem.
Do you guys have a nickname for like? Are you
guys like shaking bake? Have you guys come up with
something the two of you? No, like they could do

(19:28):
because the Lightning Bowl you can do like chocolate vanilla thunder?
That would work. Now we ain't thought it nothing yet.
Do you hate the Raiders? You know, to be a Charger,
you gotta hate the Raiders? Do you hate the Raiders?
I hate every opposing team. If you ain't, if you
ain't Charges, then I hate you. So you can say,
yeah that I hate every opposing team. Um, it feels

(19:50):
like this team is close? Is that? Is that a like?
I know you guys won a game and so that
that helps. But it feels like you guys are close
to turn the tide. Especially last year, so many close lost,
including the one up at Oakland last year. Were you
missed on a field goal? Uh? Do you feel the
same thing? Yeah? Yeah, absolutely, we hit it in the
right direction. Melvin Melvine was was incredible last week. He

(20:11):
got stronger as the game went on, like they kept
feeding him and he kept getting better. I mean, part
of it is, uh, the way in which the game
played out. But what have you seen from from Melvin
Gordon Man, I've just seen growth. Man are an incredible
running back man and he I don't think it's too
many people that work harder than him. And and it
showed he canna go out and give it his all
every game and and and that's something that showed how

(20:33):
he his worked really played off, how he got stronger
and stronger at the game goal because he worked so
hard during the week. Um, at the end of that
game against the Giants, I pointed out that you dinged
up your elbow and you didn't want to come out.
But the other thing that was weird was they were
out of wide receivers right they started putting they started
putting tight ends out wide because they just they had

(20:53):
so many injuries. Obviously not just oh b J going down,
but string Shepard went down, uh and others went down.
Did you did you ever look up and go, wait
a second, that's that's too big a dude to be
lined up outside. No, no, no, I never looked at it,
to be honest, it's gotta be it's gotta I don't
know if it feels good, but it's gotta be at
least cool to be that. On the other side, you
guys have had so many injuries. You hurt your knee

(21:15):
a couple of years ago, the organization had so many
to see somebody else go through that. What's it like
to go through a season that others are going through
now where they just you can't get healthy and it
just kind of starts spiraling down the drain to me,
To me as a person, I don't really like to
see nobody get hurt. I ain't really offended that because
I know injuries or something you can't control and injuries,

(21:38):
So just seeing them players go down last week, Man,
my my heart go out to him, man, because I
know I know how I feel to be Hans. It
has to half serious injury. So I never really want
to see nobody getmes. But I never really want to
see no team go through nothing like that. So so
I'm not I'm not a fan of a Is there
any Is there any discussion the locker room? Like, man,
I really like I like Derek Carr, like I think

(21:58):
he's a good player, But I'd really like to not
see Derek Carr this week. No I ain't no discussion
of that, man, because I won't there a car to
be healthy and playing. Man. I really like Derek as
a as a person. Amaz's a great guy man, and
it's always fun to compete against them. So I really
wanted to be out that. I really wanted to be
a percent and be healthy. Hood email and uh so, like,

(22:19):
how can we how can somebody download your rap album?
You can go on I tunes, man, I just dropped
the EP with with one of my friends. The EP
called Reap What You Sold. And it's amazing, man, it's
just going you can download and listen to it. It's amazing. Yeah,
who put who put like the beats and the tracks together?
Like did you do that? Like the whole album as
far as the beat um me and him just just

(22:42):
just put stuff together and and and put together ep.
It's amazing, man. Yeah, it doesn't sound like it was
done like in the back of like a like the
back of somebody's garage. Like it sounds like professionally done.
Like it sounds like, okay that I could listen to that.
I can listen to that driving, I can listen to
that in the radio. It sounds like a legit was
that that had to be part of it, Like I
need somebody legit to do this because if I, if I,
if I have some some Jimmy Rigg deal, it will

(23:03):
not come out. Well yeah, yeah, definitely definitely. So it's
it's all put together. Have you been in Philip Rivers
van yet? No? I haven't. Do you know about the van? Yeah? Wait?
Defensive like you're not allowed. Defensive players aren't allowed in
It's like a only quarterback thing, were not allowed. I
just I just haven't been in there. Okay, got we

(23:23):
gotta we gotta we gotta. We gotta build some bonds
here with the Chargers. Man, he's got all those TVs.
He's got he's got a driver, he can lay down
back there, he can take a nap. H. He's got
a lot of things going on. A Melvin, congrats on
the on the start for you personally and finally get
off the schneid getting the win, best of luck against
Raiders and thanks for joining us. A thank you are
that's Melvin Ingram is having a tremendous years. Like one

(23:44):
of those things. It's like kind of like we talked
about with Aaron Judge, Like Aaron Judge had a terrible series. Yeah,
he gets overshadowed because the Yankees come from two games
to none down and win and like, oh yeah, by
the way, Aaron Judge struck out three or more times
in you know, was it four times in three games?
He struck out a lot, whereas Melvin Ingram it's because

(24:07):
the Chargers and because they were oh and four and
because they're not filling up their stadium with Charger fans.
They're like, he's we're five games in, he's got seven
and a half. Sex he's having after getting paid, he's
having a better year than you would have expected. All right,
let's bring in Dan Buyer dan Gio Gonzalez tonight. Right, Yes,

(24:29):
that is the case, going up against Kyle Hendricks in
Game five of the National League Divisional Series. They play
in d Seat tonight, comes to Nationals at eight o'clock
Eastern time. Winner gets the Dodgers in the NLCS, which
will start on Saturday. I'm still waiting to hear who
the Yankees are officially gonna go with for a Game
one of the ALCS tomorrow against Dallas Cucko of the
Houston Astros. NFL Action Tonight, Week six begins. Yeah, Week

(24:52):
six already egos in Panthers tonight from Charlotte Eastern Time.
VI Kings quarterback Sam Bradford not practicing today because I
his injured Meat Vikings why Stefan Diggs also set out
the workout because of a growing injury. Vikings have the
Packers coming to town on Sunday? Well, the Bengals today
place tennant Tyler Eifford on injured reserve. He underwent back surgery. Yeah,

(25:14):
I mean how many injuries he had now? Uh a
lot more than the stripes on the Bengals helmets. I
think we can serio seriously. Tyler Eifford, he uh, we
missed a year with the with the knee before. Was
that what he heard? He's always been dinged up? There
was the one year where he caught what thirteen touchdowns?
Was that that the A lot? Man? I just I

(25:36):
like the let's see here he had man keep going,
I'll find h okay, all right? A. J. Green is
still healthy. So that's good news at least for the
Seedson Eddie Bengals Carlin said, Couch Bruce arian still serious.
X M NFL Radio that the soonest running back David
Johnson would return from risk surgery is Thanksgiving. That would
be week twelve of the NFL season. Good news for

(25:57):
the Patriots. Both Tom Birdie and Rob Gronkowski were seeing
the practice field today. Pats have the Jets coming up
this weekend. Well, the Giants have a Sunday that affair
against the Denver Broncos and Dominic Rogers. Grimarti is not
going to be there. The Giants suspended him indefinitely as
he was placed on the reserve Suspended List NBA regular season.
Just let's little week away. Nicks forward Christops Porzingis remains

(26:18):
a little bit in practice because of a hip injury.
Dug um Okay so I Forge had a stinger, a
bad stinger his first year. His second year, he dislocated
his elbow. Remember that he dislocated his elbow and he
had a huge brace on it. Then his third year
two thousand and fifteen was his best year. That's when
he had thirteen touchdown receptions. He only played in thirteen

(26:39):
games UM, and then he got hurt in the Pro Bowl.
Remember he heard his ankle bad in the Pro Bowl.
And then last year UM, right before the end of
the season, he was placed on I R because of
a back because he heard his back and the back
was never right and he wasn't even clear to play

(27:00):
until mid preseason. And um so yeah, so he he
only played. He played eight games last year and just
played a couple this year and now he's done for
the year. Man. And that's a talented kid. I'll tell
you what as well. When you look at the tight
end position around the National Football League, when you think
of Rob Gronkowski's injuries, when you think of Jordan reeds injuries,

(27:24):
when you think of Jimmy Graham's injuries, I mean you're
starting to wonder, Okay, where you know, is there some
sort of correlation maybe maybe the the guys too big?
Is is there something that that's happening? But I mean
Travis Kelsey's dealing with the concussion, which I know is
is separate. But when you're talking about the best names
of the National Football League at that position, a lot

(27:46):
of them are dealing with injuries time after time after time.
And it's okay, so I have I have a theory
on I have a hypothesis on it. Can I can
share with you, Okay, couple of things. Um, look, they're
guys that uh there're guys that they're getting the ball
a lot. They get the ball in the middle of
the field. Should be point out, Jason Witten is still
kind of going strong, Antonio Gates still going somewhat strong. Um,

(28:11):
Tony Zalls never got hurt. They never got hit and
they never really got hurt. Um. And so like, there's
a couple of things to one. This the real reason
you can't give players long term, guaranteed contracts in the
NFL is it's just too easy for you to get hurt, right.
That's that's that's the thing that's not There's there's other
factors to it, like they only play sixteen games, there's

(28:33):
fifty three guys instead of fifteen, and the roster whatever.
But the other thing is, like you just outside of quarterbacks,
they all get hurt, they all get hurt. Um. But
the second part is this, they catch the ball in
a ton of traffic and though it's really hard to cover, uh,
to cover a tight end with a linebacker, and a
lot of a lot of times they're getting squeezed in

(28:55):
between a linebacker and a safety, and those are the
hardest hitting shore is tackling dudes on a football field.
And because they're usually big. Many of them aren't getting
I know Kelsey got concussed, but many of them are
getting hit in their legs. We've seen that Gronkowski or
in their their like torso area. We've seen that with
the Grankowski with the arm injury, stay with effort with

(29:17):
the back injury. So my hypotheses is that while other
wide receivers it's more either concussions or their knees with
tight ends because they catch it in traffic and because
the guys are tackling them are linebackers and safeties who
are smaller than them. The it's chest and below, a
lot of contusions and a lot of small windows in

(29:37):
which they catch the ball and take a wallop and
hit as opposed to wide receivers who it's really a
Finesseville position. It's it's amazing because one of the guys
who we thought as being the iron man at the
position as well, Greg Olsen, all with that broken foot. Yeah,
I mean that and that and that was a non
contact yeah, and that that's a freak sort of thing.
But you know, when we do our fantasy show on

(29:59):
sun Mornings and your ranking tight ends, there were always
certain names that you saw at the top and right now.
To be perfectly honest, I said it on the show
this past weekend. Zach Ertz is your best tight end
of the National Football League because he is at least healthy,
with all of the other big name guys at least
dealing with something right now, and then when you go
down the list, you're like, Wow, these tight ends are

(30:20):
really banged up in the NFL. Ed Dixon Charles Clay,
Charles Clay's hurt. Yeah, I mean it's it's uh, it's fascinating. Um,
you guys saw this. The the NBA has changed their
the All Star Game, and and I don't know about you, guys,
I love the NBA. I'm excited for to kick off
or tip off next Tuesday. We'll cover it. We'll have

(30:42):
a ton of guests on it. I watched the games.
I hope to give you stuff that you didn't see.
Fascinating to see how the Rockets look as they've kind
of they've gone from built around James Harden to now
having another ball stopper in Chris Paul, but a better leader,
but somebody who needs They both need the ball in
their hands to be themselves. That's gonna be stating obviously
the thunder are gonna be interesting, and uh, I think

(31:04):
the Timberwolves are interesting. I think the Spurs are always competitive.
It's like your default has to be they'll win the
second most amount of games of anybody in the West,
just because they're the Spurs, right, and the stuff Kawhi
Leonard and then and then of course you have uh,
the new look Celtics and the Calves who appear to
be deeper than they've ever been, maybe not better than
they've ever been in terms of their starting lineup and

(31:26):
j R. Smith not happy about coming off the bench,
and it's gonna take them a while to jail. But
they the All Star Game, like I've never really cared
about the All Star Game. And it's weird because Basketball
Star Game you should be able to play harder than
in any other All Star game. But like football, you
can't Pro Bowl. You can't play hard because you can't
hit somebody. You know all you're gonna get Guys are

(31:46):
gonna get hurt in a meaningless game. Zach Hurtch, for example,
got hurt the meaningless game. Um baseball, you can't have
your pictures, can't waste a pictures arm on an All
Star game. You just can't basketball. The likelihood of injury
or wearing a guy down if you give team players
a week off on you know, on either side of

(32:08):
it is so slight that like, look, you can go out.
You could just pick. I mean, honestly, you don't need
all the All Stars that they have. I mean, all
you really need is like fifteen dudes, if you really
want to do it, fifteen dudes. But that's not the
way it works. They want to vote for it. They
don't play all that hard. It's not that much defense,
and it's become just like the Pro Bowl, utterly unwatchable

(32:31):
because you can't have football if nobody plays defense, and
you can't have basketball nobody plays defense, right, so you
can only see so many dunks and wide open threes.
It's not nearly as entertaining as it may look in
the highlights. But an effort to do that, they decided, hey,
we're gonna have two captains pick teams and be like

(32:51):
pick up basketball. Now, my suggestion was one to have
four teams go do some King of the Court thing,
or even three teams have King of the Court play
game games with the clock, and you know, winner takes
a bucket of money and gives it to their favorite charity.
Some of them goes to the favorite they're actually their
favorite charities themselves their second favorite charity. But they want

(33:12):
to have captains, and I guess the guests would be
it will be Kevin Durant and Lebron James, right, those
will be the two captains, or maybe Steph Curry and
Lebron James too. Must popular players in the NBA picking teams,
There's always a law of unintended consequences. Right, The intent
is like, well, this way guys in the East and

(33:32):
West played together. This way you have the two best teams.
You do do you do a snake draft as well? Right?
I picked one, you picked two? I picked two? You
you know? Or do you do one one one one one?
However you do it. Steph Curry had this to say
about the law of unintended consequences. Your first selection one
of my teammates. That's kind of the cool thing about it.

(33:54):
Following you know, whoever, the two guys that are picking,
how there how the ross started take take shape? Decisions? Yeah,
I mean that's the problem is like, look and if
you think NBA guys don't have any feelings, you might
be right, except for the fact that Isaiah Thomas just

(34:15):
said his feelings were hurt by the Boston Celtics trading him.
James Harden's feelings were hurt because his former coach, Kevin
McHale said he's not a leader. Kevin durant feelings have
been so hurt by people criticizing his move, uh his
move or things that people have have tweeted at him
that he's tweeting under alias is on Twitter. So if
you think that, if you think that guys are just

(34:37):
you know, tough and machismo and if they don't get
selected by one of their boys, they won't take it personally,
I give you evidence you're almost forced to pick your buddies.
Guess who might be the next head coach of Texas
A and M. I'll tell you next what True Car.

(35:03):
You can find out what other people in your area
paid for the same car you're looking for, new or used.
Visit True Car to enjoy more confident car buying experience.
Mm hmmmmmmmm. Carr Evering had some interesting words about Boston
in comparison to Cleveland and the Celtics and conversion of

(35:23):
the cast. Get to that, plus differs in Cam and Kaepernick.
All that upcoming in the show and John Paul Morossy
will join us next hour. Fox Sports MLB Network Insider. Uh,
did Joe Girardi save his job with a win last night?
Find out all that after we find out what game
we're playing. This is game time on the Doug gott

(35:49):
Leave Show. M M M m m m Buyer, Dan
Buyer what he got today? Doug? We have too? All right? Uh?
Guests who Penn state fears could come after a takeaway?
Head football coach James Franklin. I'm gonna go to Texas
A and M. I think you know something here, Kevin

(36:11):
someone still the coach of the Yankees. But a report
says from CBS sports dot Com that if A and
M decides to part ways with someone, those in Happy
Valley think that Franklin will be a target. Yeah. See, look,
I gotta tell you my philosophy in this is different
than the working philosophy of most athletic directors. So he

(36:34):
just got a new contract, right, He's gonna make four
point three million dollars in the season. Uh, then he'll
make it escalates to six point three by two thousand.
He's got it rolling at Penn State. He's from Pennsylvania Originally,
he's in a big time conference at a big time school,
one of which you go in a National champions BAP. Now,
in addition to the fact that Texas A and M

(36:56):
is kind of weird, cult like place and they desperately need,
it's a big thing that Kevin someone has made it
cool for black kids to go and play at A
and M. It just wasn't considered a place that was
that friendly to the African American student athlete. And he's
changed that. And so Franklin would be smart for them
to go after, not just because a good football coach,
but because he's African American. Maybe he can quell some

(37:17):
of those fears. If you you run out Kevin someone,
you will run in a white coach. But I'm I'm
Penn State. I don't give him a penny. More like
this idea that we have to like, look, we gave
you a huge contract, and I mean, could we give
you more money? Like I guess, but what second show
more loyalty to you? Like we believed in you. They

(37:39):
believe you're great. If if you want to leave us
over a million dollars a year. Okay, we'll find another coach.
I just at some point these It would be one
thing if he was making a million, right, But when
you have a contract that's in the five million and
change per year for more than half a more than

(38:00):
half a decade million dollars in guaranteed money in Happy Valley,
that's a few money. That's but you'll never have to
work again in your life. You don't have to give
a raise. I would also argue Doug that James Franklin
has already accomplished one of the toughest things that you
could ever do in the SEC, and that's when at Vanderbilt.

(38:22):
So like to to mark the box of SEC on
his on his resume. He went at Vanderbilt. I think
that's enough. That's move on, that's good. Why go back?
Why go back to the SEC when you've already wanted Vanderbilt. Um.
Guess who may have to have their home game move
this weekend in the NFL? Oh, the Raiders. Yes. The

(38:43):
Raiders didn't comment to the Las Vegas Review Journal on
whether alternate plants are being made as Oakland a schedule
to host the Chargers, but the wildfires in the area,
causing a big, big problem. In fact, the paper said
that the air quality in Oakland was actually worse today
than it was yesterday, so things aren't getting better in
the Bay Area. Big fire, big fire, lots of fire.

(39:04):
I was a huge fire. I was thinking, why not
just have the Raiders and Chargers play both of their
games in San Diego each year? Why? I mean, hey,
you know, San Diego, here's your football. They're not gonna
show up at you know, at stub Hub they I'm
just saying that would be great. They would be incredible.
It would be a Raiders home game. It's just like,

(39:25):
it's just like when the Packers used to play in Milwaukee,
that you would have a couple of games a year.
Did they ever play the Bears in Milwaukee? They were bad.
That was back when the Packers were bad and they
would add more Bear fans and it was usually a
good Lions showing would be in Milwaukee during those days.
Um guests who showed up unprepared and disorganized. What he
met with free agents in the NBA while he was

(39:45):
president of a team, Yes, that is correct. This h
We already knew that we had heard rumblings Doug. But
Adrian Warzanowski on his podcast said, uh, quote, I heard
some horror stories about Phil and presentation, situation, unprepared and
just disorganize. Sometimes he'd have Steve Mills in there to
try to redirect him. But yeah, Phil Jackson apparently a mess.

(40:08):
Well look, this is just the Peter principal. He was
a he's a very good head coach. He was never
a team president, and this idea that he could run
an organization when he wasn't healthy. He didn't like to travel,
he just didn't like to do the job. So uh look,
that's a It's a different job than than just one
where you can just show up, and it's not just
about ball. It's about so much other stuff. That's why

(40:30):
a lot of the guys that make those presentations and
are the gentlemanagers are presidents don't actually have a true
basketball background. I mean, you look at how many guys
went to Emerson, right, I think that's a businessman's position. Finally,
do guess who on the crew. I thought a woman
was asking him for change at Alpoio Loco this morning,
only to be asking him if he was in line. Yeah,

(40:52):
that was me as we were sitting there waiting for
the food. I actually thought she had asked for change.
Oh that's you thought she was asking. No, she's saying
in line. Yeah, yeah, I know. And I feel really
bad because I just brushed her off and said no, no,
And then I realized that she was saying, are you
in line? And I just also no. I see, That's
why I thought your answer was appropriate. This is game

(41:17):
time on the Duck God Leave Show. We gotta call sales.
We gotta get to a po loco as as a sponsor.
I mean, they're like, you know, it's like thirty steps away,
and there's there's a magic to timing out when we
go there. And I found a new a new meal
that I like. Their street chicken and street corn h
chicken and street corn bowl. That's good. A lot of beans, though,

(41:39):
don't come in the studio. A lot of beans, big beans,
huge beans, huge, A lot of beans, huge, big problem. Uh.
The saying is playing well cure and play well and
winning cures everything. Cam Newton's proving it. Next what Doug

(42:00):
Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio. So much to get to
Yankees moving on Indians going home. We'll see if d
C or Chicago is represented in the NLCS against the Lawyers. Uh.

(42:25):
I've heard a lot of like crazy talk about like, well,
you know, the best series for ratings, Like, dude, the
best series for ratings? Uh, probably be definitely the Yankees.
Definitely Theankees, and then I think either Cubs or or Dodgers. Um,
Nats are a distant third, but still wouldn't be wouldn't

(42:46):
be death Houston. The worst possible scenario is Houston and
the Gnats, Houston Nets, or maybe Houston Chicago. And it's
one of those things where if you're watching baseball last night,
the uh five nothing Nationals win over the Cubs took

(43:06):
about four hours, and then though it only took three
and a half hours, there were thirty one combined strikeouts
in the Indians Yankees game, and people go like, well
that any what a great game would you have watched
if it was the Astros and the Indians? Would you
have paid any attention that gave? The answer is no.

(43:29):
Baseball has got a huge problem on their hands with
the way in which people have changed their approach. And
they've changed their approach because analytics tell you got a
better shout of winning if you hit a home run
and and walk or walk or strike out. Then you
do trying to put together four or five hits. Too
hard to do, and so that's all people do. Now

(43:50):
all people do anyway, super interesting, gonna be interestingting interesting
to see, uh what happens tonight in both football and
in baseball. Football, of course, you got Cam Newton and
the resurgent, although they've always kind of been Sergeant Carolina Panthers.
Panthers only lost one game, but they just weren't. Cam
wasn't right first three games of the year that he

(44:12):
goes to New England, and I'll admit it, we all said, well,
that wasn't as much Cam as it was the fact
that the Patriots defense sucks. Right, then he goes and
does it again this past weekend and plays really good football.
You know what, something interesting happened. Nobody's talking about Cam

(44:34):
Newton's remarks to a female report last week. This is
Cam Newton last week. I know you take a lot
of pride in seeing your receivers playing well. Devin Bunches
just seemed to really embrace the physicality of his routes
and and making getting those extra yards because that give
you a little bit of an enjoyment to see him
kind of trust seeking people out there. It's funny to

(44:55):
hear female talk about routes m. It's funny funny, Like
I wish she would have done the one of my
clown What am I here to amuse you? That would
have been great? Like how how much swag would she
have had if she goes, am I, what am my clown?
What am I here to amuse you? I'm funny? How

(45:16):
how exactly am I funny? And she goes all Joe
pesci uh In in Goodfellas? Has anybody talked about that
this week? Remember last week that was a big thing,
and I wasn't making it a big thing for any
other reason that it was a big thing. Dannon dropped
him as a spokesperson, Like Nike had to come out

(45:40):
and release a statement and go like whoa hey, you know,
like we're all for women like CAM. But it wasn't.
Nike was under armour. He's under armoured guy. I mean,
everybody was backpedaling who had supported CAM. But what change
was not how offensive his comments were, and is in

(46:00):
all honesty is his apology was kind of whacked too, right,
He didn't just blanket apology, like, Hey, my bad, I
was dumb. I'm I'm smart, I'm stupid, you're smart. I'm
I'm not so good looking. I'm ugly, you're good looking.
You know that type of thing. No, he said, like

(46:23):
if you were offended by what I said, Like, what
do you mean my choice of words was poor? What
do you mean choice of words for poor? The whole
thing was bad. No one's talking about do you know why?
Because he's playing good football, which circles me, circles back
around to Colin Kaepernick. I saw this from Lindsay Uh

(46:47):
Lindsay Theory, who covers the NFL and covers the Rams
for a living. She tweeted out talked to help players
in the Rams locker room, who said, anthem fatigue has
said in and the message has been lost, and that
the focus should shift to football. That's where I am like.
There are lots of shows that will continue to talk

(47:09):
about Jerry Jones meeting and the fact that the head
coach of the Cowboys, Jason Garrett, came out today and said, Hey,
that meeting was all about love and whatever. But I
feel like I'm taking a note from you and from
your reaction and frankly, just my own internal kind of governor,
which is sorry, I'm done, just I got it. I understand,

(47:36):
I understood the reason for protests to begin with. I
didn't agree with that style of protest, or did I do.
I think that I have not experienced the level of
police brutality that some have experienced, so maybe I have
trouble relating to it. And I think that sometimes social
media can paint a picture that's not totally accurate it.

(48:00):
But I understood exactly what was being said and that
there was a protest, and I understood why people were
bothered by it, and I was fast it. But we're
on it. We're working on a year and a half now,
and everyone if the idea of taking any was to
bring awareness, were aware. Time for next step. And when

(48:21):
players themselves are like, look, got it, let's just get
back to football, they're kind of saying where where we've
all been? We're not saying that's not an important issue,
but intention has been brought to an issue because now
the protesting is more about the anti protest protests. So
you're protesting the anti protests protest of your protests. Got it?

(48:45):
Sort of? But Cam Newton's play tells you, at least
in good portion, what people have on many willing, on
many levels, been unwilling to equivocate about about Colin Kaepernick.
They've kind of nibbled around it and talked about it.

(49:07):
But all of what was said last year, the Castro
saw the pig socks, the Castro shirt, the protest, he
got a chance. The numbers are fine, but he wasn't good.
If he was good, it wouldn't have mattered. Cam Newton
threw for three fifty three touchdowns, no interceptions, and they
beat the Detroit Lions last week on the road. Yeah,

(49:32):
I know, Helloi nod I got hurt. He had surgery
to days out for the year. I know there's other
parts you could talk about. Are they're starting to find
ways to use Christian McCaffrey. I know that he didn't
play in preseason, that he wasn't sharp to start the year.
The point is he went from being the biggest male,
the most prominent male, showing his pig by the way

(49:54):
Harvey weinstein Stein makes him look like a complete saint, right,
But he goes from big a complete male shore showman,
his pig jerk who's obtuse to even understanding the gravity
of what he said, how he said, and how it
can be taken. Two, Hey, you know Cam might be back.
He might be back to m v P S form

(50:14):
back because he played really well. That's how quickly we
move on. And and and Colin Kaepernick played all that well
last year, we would have quickly moved on all right.
Coming up next to John Paul Morosi will join us.
Did Joe g already save his job with his win

Fox Sports Radio. I'm Corey Kluber, right, is the R

(52:31):
A and two starts twelve point seven nine? Is that
not good? That's uh, that's that's not good. Aaron Judge,
by the way, one for twenty with sixteen strikeouts. My
boy Joe Smith came in and shut him down every
time he faced him. Like, Joe Smith is like it

(52:51):
just gonna travel around the country. But like I am
the Aeron Judge stopper. So what you're saying is Corey
Kluber and Aaron Judge don't want to flip flop stats there. Yeah, yeah,
because Cluber needs more strikeouts and Aaron Judge needs to
be producing a couple more runs there. You know, it's
interesting about Joe Smith. So u Joe is a is

(53:13):
the husband of Ali the Forest you see on CBS.
Alie and I used to do a TV show together.
We became Friendly back. He was pitching for the Indians
last time around when they when they went to the playoffs.
This is going back. Was it four or five years ago?
Then he signed a three year deal UM with the Angels,
went to the playoffs and the Angels the first year,
and people remember that that Angels team trout didn't hit

(53:36):
at all against the Kent City Royals um, and they're like, well,
the bullpen blue the game. The regular bullpen was fine.
They lost an extra innings I think in all three
or the you know, he actually Joe pitched really well
in the playoffs and then At the end of last year,
he was traded to the Cubs as the Cubs reformulate
their bullpen. He was not on the playoff roster, did

(53:59):
in fact win a World Series? Has the ring went
through the parades or whatever? And then this year signed
with the Blue Jays. Midway through the year, he was
dealt back to the Cleveland Indians. That's where he met Ali.
And uh, he's really close friends like Michael Brantley and
as his one, his closest, his closest friend in baseball.
And what's fascinating about it is this And I don't know,

(54:20):
I I think music you'd be on the on this
side of it, buyer, I'd love to hear your opinion
on you two ramos. I asked him point blank. It
was more fun losing in the playoffs, but pitching for
a team which you're super close with all the guys

(54:41):
city you have a much closer bond with or being
a part technically of the Chicago Cubs winning their first
World Series in over a hundred years, but not actually
picking up a ball. So you're on the team, you
were there, you won the game, you're wearing the sweat, true,
but you didn't actually participate at all Ramos, which buyer?

(55:05):
Which would you think? Which would you I think being
with the guys, um having a big part of it
and playing with the guys that you like even though
you lost, is more fun. What about you? Yeah, that's
exactly what he told me, exact same thing. He said
that what was it game? It was a game two
when he came in and he struck out both he

(55:26):
did it twice, but he struck out. But I think
it was game two. Struck out Sanchez and Judge and
Sanchez back to back helped him win the game, like
in the eighth inning. It's like, that was most fun
I've ever had in baseball. He's like, you're Jack, You're
at home, and then you go up there and there's
that monster Aaron Judge. And like Joseph was a big guy.
He's like six one six two, like he said he

(55:46):
he could have played college basketball, like he's a good athlete.
But then you look up and there's Aaron Judge, who's
you know, six ft seven, six ft two d and
fifty sixty some odd pounds, who's hit fifty two whole
runs and and the place just just going crazy, and
you you know, you've got these tiny little windows and
where you have to throw a baseball, and it goes

(56:08):
counter to what people people think, like it's only fun
when you lose, Like that's not really how it is,
and so like, look, I want to celebrate winning teams,
and uh, you know, I think basketball was a little
bit different. But you know, there's something to playing for guys.
You're playing with guys you really care about, for a
city you really like in a not that he he
didn't dislike Chicago, dislike any of their players, but he

(56:30):
just didn't have the relationships he has here. Yes, Uh,
I wonder if Aaron Judge can go one for twenty
two in the next series and they pull it out.
I don't think so. I think he's got to start
hitting the ball, you think against the Astros thing I would,
I mean, just putting it in play a little bit.
My goodness, my goodness. He had one hit um one

(56:53):
hit and twenty official at bats at bats total. Mm hmm.
That's not good. That's not good A point five six
eight o ps. You know, it's interesting, like Clayton Kershaw, um,
Clayon Kershaw. It's gonna be fascinating to see how he pitches.

(57:14):
He did not. He was not great in Game one,
gave up four solo home runs, but that doesn't matter
because they had such a big lead. They're up seven
to two when he gave up to late home runs.
He's just trying to get through the seventh inning. That's
one of those kind of all time backfires where I
think Dave Roberts was trying to just get him over
the mental helm and let's just throw him out there

(57:36):
in the seventh and he can get through. And then
he gives up to so everyone's like, talk about your
all time backfires, Right, you gotta go out and get
the ball from him. So I'm I'm fascinating to see
what he does. But the Dodgers, I would guess, would
rather play the Cubs than the Nationals. They match up
much better than with the Cubs, and they did that first.
The Cubs aren't the same as they were last year.

(57:58):
Bullpen is not nearly as good. Starting pitching, not in
early as good like Jake Arietta. You go back two
years ago, most down to picture in the National League,
maybe in the National League, has ever seen in the
second half of the season. But Jake Arietta now is
their fourth best start group, right, and you look at
what they're throwing out there. Um, you know, Kyle Hendrick

(58:23):
is their number one guy. He's going tonight. Lester picked
off a guy last night. You gotta see that. But
Lester coming out of the pen. They have Quintana. But
John Lester picking a guy off at first base was
the surprising. Was the biggest surprise in that game between
the Nationals and the Cups. Yes, by the back door
nature of it as well, because the throw was so off,

(58:45):
but yet they nailed Ryan Zimmerman. It was I mean,
how many times do you see a guy getting picked
off on first by being tagged in his ankle? Like never,
that's what you got. Yeah, I would still I would
still if he gets back in there in the next series,
I will still make him throw over. I would still
dare him to do it. He's just not like I
don't understand what the Indians didn't do that more last year,

(59:06):
like make him throw John Paul Morossi joins us. You'll
see him on the sidelines of the m n LCS
for MLB Network. He joins us on the Doug Gottlieb Show,
Like Lester's not over this the mental yips have thrown
the first is he Well, look, this has been an
ongoing story for for a number of years, and I'm

(59:27):
not sure if if one successful pick off uh will
fully liberate him. I think certainly teams will try to
continue to take advantage of it as long as they can,
as long as he proves you could do it consistently.
Really no differently than than than a lot of other
things that we see in in baseball, where if a
if a hit or can't hit a curveball, he's gonna
see a lot of curveballs. And I still think just

(59:48):
because if a hit or hits one curveball, that's not
gonna change the scouting report. I guess same thing is
true for Lester, and he's gonna have to demonstrate it
over a long period of time, uh that that he's
getting some results here and and really trying to address
and figure out. He's really tried as hard as he
can and it's a really uh fexing thing that he's
dealt with, and I give him full credit for the
way that he's handled him. Um, speaking of curveball, you
wouldn't be talking about Aaron Judge, would you. He doesn't

(01:00:10):
does he need does he need hats for those bats?
Because his bats appeared to appear to be scared of
the curveball, uh Doug. It is a really concerning situation
for the Yankees, even though of course we saw them
win a massive game last night in Cleveland advanced the
lcs UM. The Astros have a very very sophisticated pitching plan,
a very good pitching coach uh in Brent Strom, and

(01:00:32):
certainly a veteran staff with the likes of Justine Erlandar Dallas,
kikel Uh. They're going to be able to execute their
pitch plan. And at this point in time, it's now
on Aaron Judge. If there's one positive side of this
for the Yankees, it's that he's done this before. Aaron
Judge in the month of August was lost, and then
he came back in September and looked like he did
it for the first four months of the season. So

(01:00:54):
to me, I am not gonna write Judge off and say, well,
he's lost for the playoffs. In terms of being a
productive bitter, he can snap back into this thing just
as easily as he got into the funk. But he's
gonna have to really focus on pitch selection and not
missing the pitch he's getting to hit, because he's not
gonna get many pitches to hit. He may get one
perrat fat and in August, when talking to Yankee people,

(01:01:14):
they would tell you he was missing his pitch. Uh
September he was getting it again and he really had
a lot very productive on September. He has to find
a way the lock back in on that one pitch
perret path that he's getting, because if he doesn't, he's
gonna see, as you point out, Doug a lot of
breaking balls, and we have seen what the result has
been of that here lately. Did Girardi keep his save
his job by winning last night? Uh? Very possibly. I

(01:01:37):
think that there was still a higher probability of Girardi
coming back even if the Yankees had lost that game.
Then some had had thought he wants to keep managing Doug.
And he's got the most wins in baseball since his
tenure began back in two thousand and eight. Um, he's
on pace to but I think the youngest Yankee manager
with a thousand wins since Joe McCarthy, So he is

(01:01:59):
a his historically excellent manager. Even by the standards of
this franchise, and the larger conversation here, the one that
the Boston Red Sox are cod fronting right now with
with John Farrell being dismissed, is there's no quote unquote
Jim Harbaugh type candidate if you think back from a
number of years ago, where he's the guy that everybody wants. Okay,
there's not that guy there in this sport right now.

(01:02:22):
That is the hot name that's available that you would
literally dismiss your manager to go out there and higher.
So I think that for that reason, Joe Girardi is
shown that he can handle that market. He's got a
good grip on the clubhouse. And we heard the story
last night about Todd Frazier and what Todd said after
Game two. It clearly seems to me, Doug, he has
a good grip on that clubhouse. They like him. He

(01:02:44):
really enjoys this young group of players. And when I
spoke to George already a couple of weeks ago about
his future, he said he wants to keep doing it.
He's gonna put it to a vote of his family,
as he always does every time his contract comes up.
So I think that all things consider, I think that
last night's game was one more data point that leads
me to believe Doug that he is going to manage
the Inankees. Alright, let's let's move to the National League

(01:03:06):
to tonight. Um Um, you know the pitching obviously, Hendricks
has been outstanding this year. Geo Gonzalez gets the start
for the Nationals. I'm fascinated by the gnats who um, Like,
we thought we weren't gonna see Steven Strassburg right because
he wasn't feeling well. Then he comes out and fesn't
absolutely Like, how did we go from he was too

(01:03:26):
sick to pitch too? He was the best pitcher in
baseball last night. It's a great question, Doug. And really,
Strasbourg is an interesting case. Um. For a long time,
the narrative of his career has been, if it's not
perfect conditions, both with the weather and with his body,
the results aren't good. Uh. If it was a rainy
day and he wasn't feeling too good, you were not

(01:03:47):
going to get it very good out of You might
leave with a cramp in the second ending and then
Soi'll be fine five days later. But there's always something
happening there that's his reputation. To leave yesterday changed that
at least a little bit, because according to the story,
he was at least feeling better, maybe not percent, but
better um And so it was not an ideal circumstance.

(01:04:08):
It was raining yesterday at Brickley, it was cold, you
were facing elimination, and yet he took the ball. So
that sends a pretty powerful message to people like us
to talk about him, and more importantly, people that are
in his clubhouse and and work side by side with him,
that he can be counted on when he's not feeling
great in a big spot. So this was a really
important start for him for his career. And one key

(01:04:30):
detail here, Doug, and one reason why I think probably
had to go over the top and and have him
on the mound is this, He's already got his contract.
This is year one of a seven year, one hundred
seventy five million dollar contract. If your hundred seventy five
million dollar man can't get on the mountain he's not
feeling great, why did you sign him in the first place.

(01:04:50):
And and so I think he really validated Doug so
many things last night. Good for him. I got he
I've been critical at times of the way that he
maybe hasn't always been available to his team. So I
gotta give him credit today. He was phenomenal last night.
He's one huge reason why Washington d C Has a
chance to win a playoffs series in this sport for
the first time. His n Dodgers would rather face the Cubs,

(01:05:14):
right the Dodgers would well a couple of things. I
mean they the Cubs are the team that knocked out
the Dodgers last year, and the Dodgers beat the Nationals
last year, So I'm I'm not so sure either way.
There are two really good teams. Uh You look at
the Cubs, and they could throw the additional lefties at
you with Lester and King Tana that maybe helped neutralize

(01:05:37):
Bellinger and and Seeger and their young lefty backs. So
maybe you would have a slight preference to face the
rightings of the Nationals. But those are pretty good rightings. Okay,
that's sure. Zer at Strasbourg. Uh So to me, Doug,
I think it's a coin. I'm not really sure that
it's a clear advantage one way or the other. I
think it's a great series either way, a great matchup

(01:05:58):
and a tough opponent for the Dodgers. Matter who was
Game five tonight there in DC. UM lost in this
is I haven't heard anybody mentioned like Corey Kluber was
supposed to be the best picture in the American League.
He's gonna win his second Cy young. And we've talked
about judges struggles. We talked about Girardi, uh maybe talked
a little bit about Andrew Miller. He did he made

(01:06:18):
one bad pitch which really changed that series. We talked
about replay, but no one. I haven't heard anybody be
critical of Cluber. Why do you think that is? Well,
So that's a good point, Doug, and I think that
he does deserve some criticism here because, as he point out,
he's about to be a two times Young winner, and
he did not get through five innings and it starts

(01:06:39):
much less in some cases three or four. So um,
it really is vexing because he was so good for
them all season long, especially in September during that winning streak. Doug,
I was in Cleveland last month covering parts of that
winning streak, and I thought to myself, I'll be back
here for the World Series. There was just like no
doubt on my mind. When I walked onto the ballpark
for the last time during that stretch. And yet they're done,

(01:07:02):
and and Clubber's inability to go deep in the game
is a big reason why. Also their defense let them down.
I I think that you look at the way things
happened here last year, they were certainly a very good team,
but it was the Cubs year, and that the focus
so much was on the Cubs in their history. Well,
this year a lot of the focus was on the
Indians in their history, and and maybe a bit too

(01:07:24):
much of the spotlight for this team, and they weren't
quite ready for it, which surprises me. They've got a
great manager at Terry Franconer is a Hall of Fame manager.
For me, franstanco Lean Door was one of the best
ten players in the planet. Clubber was one of the
best probably two or three pitchers on the planet. But
they still could not find a way to get it
done against the wild card winning team there with the Yankees.
At one point about that I'll mention quickly, Doug, is
that we've seen many times the wild card game winners

(01:07:46):
actually have won more games in the division series since
the playoff format changed in top Seeds. I'm telling you, Doug,
they are hurt by sitting and resting for those three
or four days while that wild Card game goes on.
In that winner of game really gets a huge momentum
boost into the first round of the playoffs. Yeah, I don't,
I don't know. I mean, like again, I understand that

(01:08:07):
the statistics support your assertion, but I feel like I
feel like ultimately that will even out because like part
of the intent, there's two intents of the maybe three
intents of the wild card game, right. The first is
get more teams involved in the in the chase, got
that right. The second is, honestly, the world is better
when the Yankees and the Red Sox are both in

(01:08:27):
the playoffs, and it gives you a better shot of
getting the Yankees and the Red Sox both in the playoffs.
And the third thing is it takes it should take
your top starter away. It should take take your top
starter away from you so you don't have to face
him in game one. And the problem with it, of course,
in the Indians cases that uh, their top starter didn't

(01:08:48):
even go game one. He went game two and he stunk.
And the Yankees top starter was Servino and he was
bad in the wild card game, it didn't hurt them
because CC was so good twice right well, And and
I think that that to piggyback on the last point
you made about the starting rotation and the the methodology,
the philosophy if you will, of why that game is

(01:09:09):
supposed to hurt the wild card game winner relative to
the top seed, and the answer the question is, we
are seeing right now a greater percentage of innings thrown
in the postseason by relievers than ever before. So we
spend so much Simon and and listen, I'm as guilty
of it as anybody. We talk about starting pitching matchups
that we talk about the starting pitchers. We should forget

(01:09:31):
about that because often it's it's what's the best matchup
in the seventh inning or the sixth inning. Who's your
mostly inning relief guy for the Houston Astros. I'm gonna
promise you in this next round, Chris Davenski is a
hugely important pitcher, and he could probably walk down many
streets in Manhattan or even Houston without people knowing who
he is. He is one of the most important players

(01:09:51):
in this entire series. Mike Montgomery on the cub side, um,
the middle relievers and those set up guys that lead
to the closers who are certainly more well renowned. Those
guys decide playoff games. And I think that we are
moving away just by the way that you see games managed.
You've got Christ coming out of the bullpen. You've got
Barlider coming out of the bullpen. It's more creative. I

(01:10:13):
love it, it's more chaotic. But think for us in
the media, we have to kind of readapt our way
of when you have the probable pictures, you've got that
one starting pitchers picture versus the other one, we should
have like seven names down there because it's actually those
are the guys in many cases, Doug are deciding the
biggest games of the year. John Paul Morose, you can
check them out on the sidelines covering the NLCS for

(01:10:34):
the MLB Network of course our Fox Major League Baseball
Insider as well. John Paul, thanks so much for joining us.
Look forward to uh hearing your thoughts on tonight's game
in d C, whether those Nats can finally get over
the hump get into the NLCS. Thanks so much, JP, Doug,
my pleasure of cuts up again here real soon. This
is gonna be great. It could be great. On the
other hand, it's on the opposite football and football. Is

(01:10:57):
it's football CBS Tonight or FO football is CBS Night? Yeah?
I think it's. Let's let's ask Dan Buyer, Dannis football cvysterday. Um,
I think so, Doug. Sorry, just working on some news
because there is some multiple reports out of Dallas, including
w f a A is saying that the Fifth Circuit

(01:11:20):
has ruled in favor of the National Football League, which
would restore Ezekiel Elliott's six games suspension. Okay, this is
reports coming down winning for official word, but w f
a A in Dallas is saying that the preliminary injunction
remember how this all got confusing because it was a
stay in an injunction? What would happen with the Fifth

(01:11:40):
Circuit Court of Appeals would rule in favor of the
NFL allowing the six games suspension to be back on.
It's a story that we will continue to follow as
more word comes out of New Orleans because it was
a couple of weeks ago that the Fifth Circuit heard
the NFL's appeal on the stay that was allowed to
put a hold on the six games suspension for Ezekiel Elliott.

(01:12:04):
So that makes sense, is that there were saying it,
so it's not as confusing. Yeah yeah, So right now
the NFL wins this one in the sixth, the six
games suspension could very well be back on for Ezekiel Elliott.
Tonight in Major League Baseball comes in Nationals eight o'clock
Eastern time, Game five. Kyle Hendrix goes up, It goes
up against Geo Gonzalez, winner gets the Dodgers in the

(01:12:25):
National League Championship Series. By the way, that came Tonight
is on CBS, where you'll see the Eagles and Panthers
kicking off at eight twenty five Eastern time. Bengals will
be without tennant Tyler Eiffort for the season. He needs
back surgery placed on injured reserve. Vikings quarterback Sam Bradford
isn't practicing today because of his injured knee. Vikings water
receivers to find. Diggs also set out the workout because

(01:12:45):
of a growing injury. A couple of quick notes from
the NBA. It was reported earlier that he forwarded Roddy
McGruder would miss three months because of a stress fracture
in his leg. The Heat say hold off on that timetable,
but they did confirm that an initial prognosis said it
was a stretch stress fracture in the forwards leg. A
Lonzo ball back on the practice floor for the Lakers today,
didn't scrimmage but was able to do some work. Still

(01:13:07):
questionable for the preseason finale tomorrow against the Clippers. Yeah,
I don't think it. I don't think you play. Finally,
I'm like, what's the point, right, He's gonna play a
bunch of this season. Um, I'm gonna play a ton
this season. And I think they open up, Um who
they open up? The opening night is on Tuesday Night,
Calves and Celtics, Rockets and Warriors. Like, how good an

(01:13:31):
opening night is that? That's phenomenal. That's a that's that's
a question that's easy to answer. Um, But they don't
play the first two nights. I don't believe in the
NBA they don't play until maybe a week from Thursday,
and they play the Clippers then. So they play the Clippers.
In the preseason, they play the Kings. I think their
last preseason game, don't they The Clippers play the Kings tonight,

(01:13:53):
and uh, maybe I misspoke, Ums. As you said, the
Lakers last preseason game was the clip person. I think
their first regular season game as the Clipper. That's that
could be the case. Uh, sorry, Doug, I'm just trying
to track down more information about seek stuff quick. Now
you know what you're You're right though about preseason game. Yeah,
you're right. So preseason schedule they finish up with the Clippers,

(01:14:16):
and regular season schedule they start with the Clippers. But
the important part, so we're actually both right. The important
part to note is they're the home team in the
in the regular season game that the road team. Otherwise,
Kyrie Irving was an interesting quote about Boston and Cleveland,

(01:14:38):
comparing the two cities. But up coming next, Greg Costell
gave his thoughts on why Ben Roethlisberger is struggling. Oh first,
don't let the name full you. Dollar Shape Club has
way more than just razors. Try their first month starter
set with travel side shape, butter body cline or butt wipes,

(01:15:00):
and an executive raiser, all for just five dollars. After that,
replacement cartridges ship for just a few bucks a month.
Get yours at Dollar Shaved Club dot com. Slash Gottlieb
why is big Ben struggling. Greg Coste offers his thoughts. Next,

(01:15:22):
what True Car You can find out what other people
in your area paid for the same car you're looking for,
new or used. Visit True Car to enjoy more confident
car buying experience. Okay, so as of now, as of now,
Ezekie Elliott is going to have to service six games

(01:15:44):
suspension starting this weekend. So we'll see if they can.
If Jarrah and the Boys or she's Zeke and his
lawyers can get that can get that change. But what
a dissaster for the Dallas Cowboys. That a not good
look the Dallas Cowboys. They haven't been right all year,

(01:16:05):
you know, and they probably played at least Dak played
his best game going back to Sunday and they lost
at home to the Green Bay Packers. Cowboys are gonna
buy this week, So they got like a week and
a half to figure this thing out, and at least
in terms of game planning. In terms of game planning, uh,

(01:16:27):
it does obviously doesn't affect them and they'll have they'll
have plenty of time to prep. But man, that's just
not good news for a team that that had to
feel coming. You know. Look, I felt coming into the
season when our expectations were way too high for them.
They had some change in the offensive line, they had
a much more difficult schedule. This is probably the softest

(01:16:47):
part of their schedule, going into San Francisco out of
a bye, but they've lost two out of their last
three games, three out of the last four games. They
go to San Francisco to d C take on the
Skins home to the Chief, stand to the Falcons, Eagles
at home, Charges at home Redskins at home to the Giants.
D um Yeah, completely different team. They don't have Zeke,

(01:17:10):
they have other running backs. They're fine whether or not Zeke,
and the team is built around his ability, you know,
not not built around Alfred Morris. So we'll see. And
now every day this time, we'd like to play for

(01:17:30):
you a portion of a show earlier today on Fox
Sports Radio or Fox Sports One that plays on our
serious exempt channel eight three channel. Whether it's Clay Travis,
I'll kick the coverage for the first things. First, undisputed
Rich Isien, Dan Patrick or Colin Cowherd. In this case
it's Cowherd Show. Every week he has on Greg co Sell,
who watches the films and breaks him down from NFL films,

(01:17:52):
and he had this to say in regards to Ben Roethlisberger,
He's not the same quarterback. He's making throws that you
would not expect someone with a number of games he's
played to make. I think their offense should start with
the run game. That's what they did a year ago.
Levian Dell average seven carries per game, and people forget that.
This almost reminds me of John Elway late in his

(01:18:14):
career when it was Terrell Davis who was the driving
force behind those offenses. I think that's the direction, in
my view anyway, that Pittsburgh needs to move. And that's
frankly what Levan said. I think the problem is that
a couple of things. Levian wasn't in camp right, so
they didn't have he wasn't sharp, he wasn't in football

(01:18:35):
shape to begin with. Um Additionally, and though obviously the
play calling was was bad, They're like, I don't know
if you saw this. The Jaguars called twenty one plays
in the second half last week. Nineteen of them were
called runs. Nineteen they just they just did. They were
basically a Leonard Fournette left Leonard Fournette right, so that
Blake Bortles can't lose us the football game. But I

(01:18:58):
think there's there's a couple of factors here. I think
they thought that's the way the league is going. They
thought they had they had Martavis Bryant back, they drafted
Juju Smith Schuster. Uh, you gotta use Jesse James the
tight end. Levy On Bell is good out of the backfield.
Like I think they thought, Hey, we got all these weapons,
this is the best way to use them. And instead
kind of going back old school and going to Levyan

(01:19:20):
Bells had to play his way into shape. And look,
Levyan Edmond good. And the one thing I didn't hear
out of Greg is He's probably right. Ben is not
the same guy. He is forcing things, and they do
need to change their focus. But Levian bell is only
average three and a half yard to carry. He only
has one run all season long of twenty or more yards,
only one. And so you take away his explosiveness and

(01:19:44):
it becomes three yards of a cloud of dust. And
with all those weapons out there, and you paid all
that money to Antonio Brown, you gotta get him the football.
So I think you're you're answering too to too many bosses,
if you will, A lot of chefs in that kitchen.
He also had this to say in regards to how
Jared Goff played against the Seahawks. He did not have

(01:20:06):
a real strong game overall, but I thought he was
excellent on the final possession, and that certainly says something
about him. He was aggressive throwing the ball in a
situation that demanded it. Those kinds of situations demand that
you make throws. And it's not that he completed him
obviously completed a bunch of them, but it's the fact
that he was willing to turn it loose. See. I
always view that as a real positive in those kinds

(01:20:29):
of situations, when a quarterback is willing to turn it loose. Um,
that's what I saw. Didn't see Jared Goff play exceptionally well.
I thought there were times which he threw off his
back foot. There was a drive in which he tripped, uh,
and then he should have been intercepted the next play,
and um just just threw off his back you know,
through while kind of still stepping back and not stepping

(01:20:51):
into his throw, not really delivering the football as he
should have. But he played well enough at the end
of the game to put them in position to win,
and his rookie wide receiver, Coup Bercup let him down.
As a sure handed guy, you can't You've got to
be more sure hand. I still think they're in pretty
good shape, but the test comes from that defense on
the road in Jacksonville. If they can stop the run,

(01:21:13):
if they can force Blake Bortles to beat them, if
they can get a lead and make Jacksonville play catch up,
Jacksonville shouldn't be able to beat him. Their dogs at Jacksonville,
Vegas still not total believers in Jared Goff or the
l A. Rams saw this from Kyrie Irving. He said
this in regards to Boston as opposed to Cleveland. Quote Boston,

(01:21:37):
I'm driving in and thinking I'm really playing in a real,
live sports city. Irving total reporters on Wednesday comments published
in the Charlotte Observer. A lot of different cultures, food, people,
you get it all, especially in Boston. The All Star
point guards said, you got to Cleveland and it would
be nighttime and things would be going on, but you
just see a vast difference. Um, he's not wrong with

(01:22:05):
what he's saying, right, but does it need to go
s does it need to be said, like none of
this does you ingratiates you at all to the people
of Boston. Like he said yesterday, he was asked what
the biggest difference in playing in Cleveland playing and playing
for Boston is, and he said, bald movement. And look,

(01:22:25):
Boston second most passes per game of any team in
the NBA last year, calves most per game. So he's
not wrong. There are more more, more cultures, there's more
stuff to do. It's a different city. It's more alive
in Boston than it is in Cleveland. All of that's fair,
but like, did you have to say it right? Like

(01:22:46):
Cleveland's football team, got baseball team, got basketball team, and yeah,
it's more midwestern, it's more team. There's like one area
where everybody's going out the heights, right, But outside of that, Like,
do you do you need to say that? What's what
is the That was always what was told to me,

(01:23:08):
Like what's the wind? You know? One time I was
doing a halftime of a CC semifinals. It was Duke
in Maryland and at halftime they interview the team that's
winnings coach, and it was Duke that was winning. But Chewski,
at least for ESPN, doesn't do the halftime interviews. They
sent Chris Collins out there, so they come to us
at the half and I was like, why is Chris
Collins talking? Why isn't it Mike Schefski, like always got

(01:23:31):
to do his answer to questions. And as soon as
the segment was over, my boss called, let me up.
He's like, what is the win? My point is, I
think people at home want to know why Mike Chefsky's
not doing the interview. But his point was well taken.
What's the win in pointing out something that doesn't necessarily
need to be pointed out? Players always want other players

(01:23:55):
to get paid, but sometimes it's just as simple as that.
Next to the Dug the Show, What Up to Gottlieb Show?

(01:24:16):
Fox Sports Radio? We got lots of stuff to talk about,
lots of stuff to talk about. Um, you know, I
might even take some phone calls this hour, maybe after
r J Bell it will take some phone calls. We
guys think eight seven nine on Fox. All right, look,

(01:24:37):
I'll just kind of give you some topics and some
really quick takes on them. Zekey Elliott. Right now, it
looks at the fifth Circuit Court of Appeals rules against
Ezekie Elliott and reinstates the six game suspension. Now, the
good news for the Cowboys is they don't play this weekend,
so they have, you know, just over a week week
and a half or so to try and find some
other appellate court to uh uh to rule in their favor.

(01:25:03):
I don't know. I don't know even know if that's possible, Like,
I don't know the legally is about it. I just
know what it feels. It feels like the this is
a typical Dallas Cowboys season right where when you're not
expecting it, they're pretty good. When you are expecting it,
they let you down, and they're kind of letting everybody down.
And you can tell me Alfred Morris was good once
upon a time with the Redskins, and then he drives

(01:25:24):
the Moss to six to six, so that makes them cool.
But you know what he's not. He's not a Zeke Elliott.
And Dez Brian is not des Brian the last couple
of years. And Jason Witten is not Jason Witten of
the last decade. And I think the Cowboys are a
bit of a bit of a dumpster fire. They're not
like bad like the Cleveland Browns who benched the rookie

(01:25:44):
quarterback that no one had huge expectations of after just
four games. Like that's that's a different level of smoldering
pile of poop. But considering, hey, they had the best
record in the NFC last year. Hey, Dak Prescott finally
got the team to his himself. Hey Dak Prescott finally
played really well last week. And with David Irving back,

(01:26:04):
they got they got a pretty good tandem. As far
as pass rushers, the defense isn't great, especially without Sean
Lee when he's been hurt passing games. Okay, and you
take Zeky Elliott out of that that team, and what
do you got? Don't love it? Don't love it? And
remember Dax already struggle when Zeke struggled case in point

(01:26:26):
the Denver game, the Denver game. Um, I got an
interesting story. I got an interesting story. Roger Goodell's most
fervent defender, fervent defender on Twitter is exposed. Tell you
who that is? In just a moment. A couple other

(01:26:47):
things story coming out of a Dennis Dodd CBS Sports
dot Com friend of mine. We texted back and forth
about his story. He had that Texas A and M
wants to go after James Franklin if they fired Kevin's
common at least Texas A and M understands what it
would mean to fire Kevin Summon That higher would make

(01:27:09):
zero sense none. James Franklin does not recruit the state
of Texas. Well, Like if you want to win an
A and M, you gotta be you gotta be Texas.
And remember someone came from Houston previously that he was
at Oklahoma as an assistant coach. So I but what

(01:27:31):
they're what they're telling you is what you should know
about Texas A and M. Kay, and what what Kevin
Sumlin brought to that school was he made it a
safe haven for the African American football player in Texas.
Because A and M is kind of weird, big core cadets,
big Marine Corps, r otc rozy dudes. It's kind of

(01:27:55):
like a cult. Like everybody outside like a kind of
weird guys that go there, like this place is the best.
It's just a different spot and M. People like I
love it. Other people like it's a cult blue or
green pill um and so what they're saying by putting
it out there about James Franklin Lennons is that they

(01:28:15):
know if they get rid of someone, they have to
they have to find a way to hire somebody where
the black players aren't all gonna leave and they'll still
be able to continue recruiting the quality African American athletes.
I actually think, I actually think it's smart. I just
don't think it's that smart because one, I don't think
I'll take it, and two doesn't have Texas ties, and

(01:28:37):
it's a weird fit. And so you're already, even if
he doesn't really even get offered the job, gonna get
turned down before the jobs ever opened. Um, all right,
let's get to the NFL. Tonight. We got a game
Carolina Panthers taken on the Philadelphia Eagles. Here's a question, music,

(01:29:00):
Do you consider yourself an NFL fan? I do? What's
the record? The Eagles? Eagles are four and one, Like
as anybody discussed the fact they're four in one, they're
actually in first like the Cowboys get more discussion, The
Redskins because of cousins, get more discussion. The Giants, who
haven't won a game, get more discussion. Here the Eagles
are like, hey, we're actually in first place now. Lane

(01:29:21):
Johnson not playing, and I don't know if you've if
you've seen, their numbers are terrible when Lane Johnson doesn't
play on that offensive line. UH. And they're going into Carolina,
Carolina coming off a win on the road over the
Detroit Lions. Both teams have been I think. I think
the Eagles have been a pleasant surprise as opposed to

(01:29:43):
the UH Panthers kind of struggled offensively and found a
way to win against the soft schedule early on, and
they've looked good to the last two weeks. Last two
weeks wins in New England, in Detroit, back home, and
they are a favorite. Tonight take on the Philadelphi Eagles.
Find out who R. J. Bell likes in moments. But
here's the story from the This is the New York

(01:30:05):
Times correct Journal. Same thing, Kitty. I've told my wife
time and again. Now my wife has her own Twitter handle.
Don't go on Twitter and search my name, especially during
basketball season. But if I do a Herd appearance tomorrow,
I'll be hosting The Herd and you can see me

(01:30:27):
on TV and speak for yourself on Fox Sports One.
Don't search my name because when you do nothing good.
Just the number of the ratio of people, especially like
when you're calling a big basketball game, or you're doing
a big broadcast, you're doing a big studio show. When
you do a show, that the ratio of people to go, hey,
great job too, you are the world's stupidest human being

(01:30:51):
is about one to fifty. Former to the latter, but
apparently his wife who used to be in the media,
Jane Skinner Goodell, the Wall seature A confirmed after examination
of the account that it's Roger Goodell's wife who's been
defending him with a Twitter account at for an argument.

(01:31:15):
It's roared to life the last few few months, rising
up vigorously to defend Roger Goodell against perceived attacks in
the handling of issues such as the national anthem, a
protest by players. It goes after at Pro Football Talk,
It's gone after others that that Talk Football quote it was.

(01:31:35):
It was a really silly thing to do, done out
of frustration and out of love. As a former media member,
I was always bothered when the coverage doesn't provide a
complete and accurate picture or a story. I'm also the
wife and and a mom. I've always I've always passionately
defended a hard working guy. I love and I and
I and I always will I just may not use
Twitter to do so in the future. With in an

(01:32:00):
hour that the Wall Street Journal found out called ms
mrs Goodell. The account was made private. Later it was
taken down altogether. This is the problem with Twitter, right,
You can't even defend somebody, even if you're using all facts.
The problem with Twitter. Kevin Durant couldn't. He couldn't be

(01:32:21):
honest on Twitter on his regular account. If he was,
he would get eviscerated. That's why he needed to have
a third party. People operate like Twitter is. I think
in the intended consequence of social media was, boy, what
if we could get the honest feelings of all of
these people something happens. What if you got your honest reaction.

(01:32:45):
We didn't have to go through a PR person. We
don't have to sit down with you, we didn't have
to get the We didn't have to be told by
one of your reps. Hey, ask him about this, don't
ask him about that. This guy can just say whatever
he wants, and you can even ask them a question
and might answer it. What if we had complete and
total full disclosure. That's what sold social media is supposed

(01:33:10):
to be. But here's the problem. People don't want full disclosure.
They don't want to know the truth. They have confirmation bias,
and yeah, it's for the most part, it's it's polarizing
size either super super super liberal or super super super
conservative and nothing really in the middle. You can't say, yeah,

(01:33:34):
you know, here's the truth. You can't speak the truth.
Even Roger Gordell's wife, who used to be in the media,
cannot defend her husband with facts. And when people find
out that it's Roger Grdelle's wife that's defending him with facts,
she feels guilty and probably told they should take that down, Like,

(01:33:56):
why it's the truth that you should take that down?
It's a bad when the truth is a bad look.
I don't actually think the truth is the bad look.
R J. Bell joins us up coming next, what is uh?
What do we know about the Eagles without their starting
right tackle Lane Johnson not playing tonight? How does that
change the number on the road in Carolina? That stacks?

(01:34:19):

(01:35:56):
All right, so we got a lot of stuff going
on there, right, We got Zeke suspension. We have Zeke's suspension.
We'll ask r J Bell about that. Uh. We have
injuries tonight in Thursday Night football. Of course, We've got
Major League Baseball tonight Game five NETS taking on the Cubs,
right to play the Dodgers this upcoming weekend at Chevez Ravine.

(01:36:18):
But you know what we got this this time of week.
Every week we take it to Vegas. Wait till I
give my money? Right? Are you tired of losing money
every week? Yeah? Do you want to be in the note? Well,
we might not know, but Vegas always knows. Let's go

(01:36:41):
to r J Bell pregame dot com is the website.
Of course, you can also hear him on Straight out
of Vegas. It's Friday nights, lympm Pacific time, Saturday nights
ten pm Pacific time. As we get to the five
biggest plays this weekend in the Nation Football League r J.
Let's start with the Eagles tonight against the Panthers, two
four and one teams. Panthers have played much better offensively

(01:37:02):
the past two weeks, and the Eagles are without Lane
Johnson Um and that that changes dramatically how they play
offensively when he hasn't played the past couple of years.
At the p D suspension to start last year. What
are your thoughts and that three point line Panthers a
favorite at home. I think the sharps are more on Carolina.
Carolina home field advantaged a little bit more than average,

(01:37:25):
and I think that with Cam you we can feel
pretty good. The question has been answered, because I was
a skeptic up til last week. The way I saw
it was first three games he played poorly. Fourth game
he played well against the Patriots though, which up to
that point had had one of the worst defenses of

(01:37:46):
the last decade, and he played well. So it's like, okay,
if you are one out of four against a really
bad d I think there's still a question mark. Well,
he played well against the lines. Now you might say, well,
now it's too good and three bad. But here's the difference.
One of the theories about Cam was that he only
had two passes in the preseason. He was a little injured,

(01:38:09):
in a little rusty, and eventually the rust in the
health would return and the rest would get washed off.
And it looks like now with two straight games, Cams
back and otherwise this defense is quite good yards per
play defensively, Caroline and number four in the NFL, by
the way, the Eagles number twenty nine. So I Leen,

(01:38:29):
Panthers Lions taking on the Saints is a Sunday game.
Saints kind of resurging after a slow start, Lions now
kind of come in, uh, licking their wounds. Losing at
home didn't even look good. It really really that good
in the win over the Vikings a week before and
without heloading, not a lot of loading, not out for
the remainder of the season, and the Saints by by
shedding Adrian Peterson. Now there's no dysfunction within their backfield, right.

(01:38:52):
They have two really good running backs, one versatile, the
others more of a straight line runner. What are your
thoughts on the Saints being four and a half point
favorites at home against the lines. Yeah, addition by subtraction
with Peterson, I think that's true. This is a prose
versus Joe's game. So the professional batters on the Saints,
and that money has driven the line from three up

(01:39:13):
to four and a half or five, and the Joe's
the recreational batters on the Lions, all bets on this
game on the line, so the small bets lines big
bets on the Saints. I think Detroit has had a
perfect storm to be over rated. Now, what are some
of the elements that lead on over eight team. One

(01:39:34):
is close wins, right, those wins by one score or less,
because winning or losing by one score less has a
huge element of luck. And it's not really opinion. The
math guys look at this and say, okay, based on
how many games close games you win or lose at
a certain point, how does that affect how you win
or lose the next ten games? Let's say, and there's

(01:39:56):
very little correlation, which means it's a ton of luck.
The other thing that's a ton of luck is turnovers.
Not but turnovers are very random. Well, let's see Detroits
won more close games with comebacks in the last two
years than any team in NFL history, and number two
if you look at this season, Detroit is number two

(01:40:17):
in net turnover advantage. So the two main things that
lead to lucky scores and lucky results, the lines have
benefited from greatly. And because of that, there's a real
disconnect between what people think of the lines and what
Vegas thinks are power ratings have the lines number twenty two,
and a lot of people think they're much better than that.

(01:40:38):
The sharp side the Saints, all right, the Steelers travel
to take on the Chiefs. It's a rematch of a
playoff game last year in which uh, there's no no
touchdown score right, Chiefs couldn't tour touchdown. But the Chiefs
are better in their backfield. The Chiefs are winning more games,
don't have Eric Berry, but they've played the best football
of anybody today. Steelers come in, Uh, kind of hobble

(01:40:59):
Ben Roethlisberger. You're a Pittsburgh guy, you know all the narrative,
all the things that he said. But they have Levian Bell,
they have a talented offense, and they have been terrible defensively.
There are four point dogs in Kansas City, very difficult
place to play with pros on with the Joe's on.
All right, So this is one I think we're understating
as saying the defense has been okay or good. This

(01:41:19):
Steeler defense arks per played number three in the NFL,
and the question entering the year was this defense because
it's young, and the theory was an up trend line.
And I think that's come to pass with number third
ranked the offense, So, I mean, can I think of
a bigger disappointment? I mean, Doug, I would make the
case that Pittsburgh on paper entering the year one of

(01:41:43):
the top five or seven offensive lines, when the top
five or seven quarterbacks, one of the top three or
four running backs, one of the top three receivers, and
I would make the case that Martavis Bryant as a
backup receiver would be as or as a number two
receiver would be one of the top five or seven.
I mean that sounds like one of the best offenses
of the decade, wouldn't you say? I would say so.

(01:42:04):
I mean, no weaknesses, and the performance on offense has
been well below average, not average of expectation, but average
to the league. Now here's what's fascinating about this game.
You know, home field advantages were three points Kansas Cities
at home. Is the line opened up in this game?
Kansas City by three. So the market was saying, a

(01:42:27):
team Kansas City to everyone. The people are starting to
talk about being undefeated versus a Steeler team that just
got embarrassed by the Jags, and the Vegas batting market
was saying, these are even teams. Now it's been beat
up a little bit to four, but it really shows
you there's still a lot of faith in Vegas for
the Steelers. I'm a skeptic. This week. I usually played dogs,

(01:42:48):
but I've already beat Kansas City. All right, speaking of
dogs rams uh, you know, look, I don't think I
don't think that they played great, especially offensively. Jared Goff
didn't play great, but they were Cooper Cup catch away
from beating the Seahawks at home. It's coming up to
win in Dallas against Cowboys. Take on the Jags, who
ran the ball nineteen of twenty one plays in the

(01:43:09):
second half in that win with all the turnovers. Ben
Roethlisberger head on the road in Pittsburgh. Jags are a
two and a half point favor. Doesn't the scream rams
to you. It does, and that's where the sharp money is.
These are the two most improved teams in the NFL,
based upon our Vegas Power rankings. Rams upgraded five and
a half points, that's number one, Jags upgraded four and

(01:43:29):
a half points, that's number two. But I think the
Jags have some of those factors that tend towards overrated teams.
Is turnovers their number one in the league plus ten,
and they've allowed if you look at the stats, they've
allowed over five yards per rush. So Jags are certainly
not an elite team. The question is are they slightly

(01:43:51):
above average or slightly below average? I would tend towards
more below to be candid. They've been able to win
these games with out boarders having to throw, and if
somehow they're able to not have to have boardles throw
this game, they're probably gonna win. But I have not
seen even once this season boardles have a game that
I thought was the difference maker and a Jacks win.

(01:44:14):
By the way, Jacksonville the worst home field in the NFL.
We've talked about well maybe now quite frankly with the
Chargers their second words right, because the Charges really have
a bad home field in l A. But other than that,
the Jacks are right there. Last decade ten years, Jacksonville
at home has covered the spread thirty four percent of
the time. This is a four o'clock eastern start, which

(01:44:35):
helps the Rams traveling west the east. You're right, Rams,
sharp side alright, Giants traveling to take on the Broncos.
And the Giants have no healthy wide receivers, right, They're
just they're completely decimated by injuries. And when we saw
them without uh, without oh b J to start the year,
they didn't have much of an offense to begin with.
Now you got Sterling Shepard dinged up, there's Brandon Marshals

(01:44:57):
dinged up. Uh, they got all and they're on the
road against Denver Broncos, who are a far superior team
at home. Vegas puts the line in eleven and a half,
a lot of points, but I just don't know how
the Giants are gonna score any points on the road.
All right. So here's a great tip for the listeners
is if a line is double digits in the NFL,

(01:45:17):
discipline yourself underdog or pass, because yes, some double digit
favorites are going to cover, but in the long run,
you're digging yourself out of a hole because double digit
favorites just don't do near as well as uh, double
digit underdogs. This is a past for me, though, and
it's because of a concept will come back to a
couple of times this year, cluster injuries. Everyone will pay

(01:45:42):
notice when a big name like O b J Is
out and they'll say, well, how much does it move
the line? About half point maybe a point where people say, wow,
that doesn't seem like enough. But when there's three or
four injuries at the same position, you're not going from
number one to number two, but you're going from number
one to number five, and then your second, your backup receiver,
has to be number six, and now you're hiring guys

(01:46:05):
off the street that don't know the playbook to fill
in the roster. That's when. And think back to the
Steelers a few years ago. They had a couple of
running backs hurt at the same time in the playoffs.
They had to sign a guy off the street. He
only had a dozen plays in the package for him
with their number one running back. It might not be
this extreme that week this week, but the Giants being
so thin at receiver is so much bigger than just

(01:46:28):
Oh b J being out, And that's one of the
main drivers of this line being so big. So I'm
not gonna play anything because I can't play the dog.
All right. That's r J. Bell. The show is straight
out of Vegas. It's eleven o'clock Pacific time on Friday night,
ten o'clock Pacific time on Saturday. Of course, you can
go to his website pregame dot com. R J Great,
Dave Yama, Thank you. Pleasure is completely mine. Let's chick

(01:46:50):
in with Dan Buyer, then work in some phone calls
eight seven seven nine on Fox Dan what he got? Well,
the big news of the day is the breaking news
from the National Football League. The Fifth Circuit Court of
Appeals in New Orleans voted in favor of the nfl
two to one, throwing out the preliminary in junction on
Ezekiel Elliott's six game band. So that means the six

(01:47:10):
games suspension is back on for now. The Court in
Louisiana today ruled in favor of the NFL, stating that
the Players Association filed their motions prematurely, which was prior
to the ruling given by League arbitrator Harold Henderson. So
the NFL wins this about. But there could be a
silver lining for the NFL p A and specifically Ezekiel

(01:47:31):
Elliott Cowboys have a buy In Week six, the NFL
p A could refile this process in New York, which
could allow this whole process to go over again and
allow Elliott to keep playing. That have a week and
a half to do that, as the Cowboys don't play
again until Week seven against the San Francisco forty Niners.
Here's some other NFL notes that you need to know about.
Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota has that hamstring strain. They're not

(01:47:53):
gonna play so Monday night against the Colts when he
was limited in practice today, as was Raiders quarterback Derek Carr,
who missed week because of his back injury. Raiders have
the Chargers coming to town, we think. No word yet
on if that game could possibly be moved, as the
Raiders had no comment to the Las Vegas Review Journal
as the wildfires in northern California continue to wreak havoc.
Bengals placed Tona and Tyler Eifford on injured reserve following

(01:48:16):
back surgery. Patriots go to back Tom Brady attendant Rob Gronkowski.
Both were seen practicing today. Giants suspended corner Dominique Rogers
Cromartia definitely. He was placed on the reserve suspended list,
and tonight Eagles and Panthers will start week six, twenty
five Eastern time. Oh yeah, there's a game five tonight
on TBS Doug Cubs and Nationals play for the right

(01:48:36):
to face the Dodgers in the NLCS. It's Kyle Hendrix
going up against Gio Gonzalez. Doug Gallain Show, Fox Sports Radio. Yeah,
I'm fired up for tonight baseball and football both both on.
Let's give you a chance to speak your mind, time
to express yourself. Called Doug eight seven seven six three

(01:49:00):
six nine. I can't read who that is? Ramos, Sorry,
I have I have some other disconnect from server. Reconnect him.
It's Enrique and Queens. You're on the Doug Gallup Show
against eight seven seven six three six nine. Rique, You're
on the Dug gollep Show. What he got, buddy, Enrique?

(01:49:25):
Go ahead? Man? Okay Um. New England's playing the Jets
uh on Sunday. I think it's gonna be a competitive game.
I think the Jets maybe could pull off the upset
if they don't and they play the picture. It's something
I think they could get to the playoffs somehow, And
as far as the Yankees go, I think they're gonna
win the next series because I'm gonna be the judge
of that, And uh, to knock is a good picture

(01:49:47):
and he's gonna to knock him out. That was great.
You spent you spent how long? How long was How long?
Is he got a hold coming up with those two?
Those are those are big? Those are big, right, Like
he didn't sound like a New Yorker to me, just
because I'm going to be the judge of that. Okay,
congrats on beating the Browns and the Jags and the Dolphins.

(01:50:08):
And look, I don't think the Patriots are great, but
the Patriots had a week and a half to prepare
for this game, um, and I do think that they'll
start to figure it out. That's It's one of the
issues is you brought in a cornerback who had been
primarily in a man system. He's got to play multiple
coverages and so he's been kind of confused as of

(01:50:30):
what they want to do. Um. But Gronk with the
extra time out you'd expect him to play, Brady has
been pretty good. You give him time to to prepare. Uh,
the Jets are better than you thought they'd be, and
they're undefeated at home, but better than you thought they'd
be and not It just means they're not a complete
and abject disaster. That's really what we're saying. I just

(01:50:55):
I don't like the idea of giving Bill Belichick an
extra couple of days prepare for you against you one
organization he hates more than any other in the NFL. Yeah,
it needs to say. I like the other side of
that one, The other side of that one. All right,
I want to give you guys a chance to to
sound up eight seven seven three six nine music? You going?

(01:51:17):
Do you have a multi TV set up tonight? You're
going one TV? You go on main channel and then
flipping back and forth to baseball you're recording one? What's
the plan I do? I'll do NFL on the TV
with laptop on the baseball game. How do you do
laptop on the baseball game? This is how I know
if you're telling the truth or not. Where is the
baseball game come from? Uh? Let's see, Well tonight it's

(01:51:38):
turner correct so that it would be on yeah TBS,
just through direct TV. Okay, you really do it that way? Yeah, okay,
you're not making this up when I can. Yeah, I
do laptop iPad, I do it onto my smart just
do it. I do it on my smell phone, my
smell phone buyer, buyer. And first of all, do you

(01:51:58):
believe Ryan Music says he set up? Yes, yes I do.
But do you do laptop on lap or laptop on table,
laptop on table after your thighs start burning? Well, Plus
he doesn't have any kids yet, so he's got to
worry about those swimmers. You know, you don't want to
burn off any of those swimmers. You know you need
to be cooling down. There's cooling down there, fire, what's

(01:52:21):
your what's your plan? Majority will probably be on the
football game. It just it happens that way. College football
on Saturdays takes precedent NFL on Sundays, and then now
with Thursday, I'll watch more of of Nationals and Cubs,
um if it was on a Saturday or Sunday. But yeah,
it'll be I'll be focused on Eagles Panthers mostly. Rama's uh,

(01:52:43):
you're coaching, you got soccer, no practice today, practice yesterday?
Baseball for me, Cubs national because your big Dodger fan, right,
And I want to see who the Dodgers will face
Saturday night. You get you know, scouting report out, You're
gonna be checking like all the the pitching patterns and
so on and sofa. I just want to know who's
gonna win, what who the Dodgers are gonna beat in

(01:53:04):
the NLCS. I'm fascinated by this, the geo Geo Gonzalez
getting started against Kyle Hendricks. Um. Of course, Kyle Hendricks
has had an outstanding year for the Cubs, and he
was spectacular against the Gnats last time out. Remember he
pitched earlier on the series. He pitched seven innings, gave
up only two hits, walked three, struck out six. Uh

(01:53:27):
and and they got of course to win zero earned
runs so far given up Obviously this year in the postseason, uh,
he was. He was pretty good last year in the
postseason as well. Um. The interesting part about Kyle Hendricks
is that you know, you go back to last year.
Last year he was a surprise and had a two
point one three e r A, and you didn't know

(01:53:49):
how he pitched pitching a big, big spot. Now you do.
You have a pretty good feel Geo Gonzalez pitching this
exact same game five years ago. Yes, music, do you
consider this season a disappointment for the Cubs if they
don't make it back to the World Series. So if
they lose tonight or even if they lose in the
NLCS to the Dodgers, I don't think to the World's

(01:54:11):
I don't think to the World Series. I think if
they don't win this series, probably disappointed. I mean, the
problem is that they're not There's no up The Gnats
are not an up start, right like the Nats are legitimate,
even the dying Backs like they're legit. These are legitimately
the eight eight best teams in baseball, even the Yankees,

(01:54:32):
who weren't as good. They're probably a year ahead of schedule.
Let's not kid ourselves. The Yankees were the uh fiveth
through eighth best team in baseball. They belonged to the
Platt wasn't that big and upset over the Indians. I
just find the Cubs interesting because it was like, for
so long they were the curse whatever, and then last year,
obviously we know that they broke that curse. This year

(01:54:53):
was so different. They got off to the slow start
and then they actually turned it around, started to play better,
but everyone was so distracted by the Dodgers and what
they were doing, and then even the Cleveland Indians after that.
It's almost the Cubs, though, had a great They had
the I think they had the best record baseball in
the second half of the year, right, So that's what
I'm saying. They played really well, but people were distracted

(01:55:15):
with the other big stories that were happening in baseball.
And they're in such a different spot now because they
had that young talent and they won last year. I
feel as if they're expectations were much higher for this year,
and it doesn't seem as though they're quite living up
to it. But people haven't talked about it as much
because they've been more interested in the Dodgers and the Indians.
I think that's a it's more national. We didn't talk

(01:55:36):
about anything except we talked about We couldn't even get
people to talk about the Dodgers and their level of dominance, right,
Like people don't care, and the Indians we we we
all made fun of it. We're like, how many games
they have to win before you care? I don't know
what was the number that you said, so, um, you
know Rizzo's numbers were a little down for part of

(01:55:58):
the year, and we still ended up with thirty two
and one nine r BI and was on base thirty
nine percent of the time. Addison Russell's numbers were way
down this year. Of course, he had an injury, um
so the and and you know, Jake Arietta hasn't been
nearly as dominant as he had been. Jason Hayward, who
was supposedly made some adjustments. The average was slightly up.

(01:56:22):
Chris Bryan still had a really good year with twenty
nine home runs, hit nearly three hundred, on base forty
of the time. They didn't have anybody who had a
ridiculous year like we saw John Carlos standard we saw
with Judge in terms of home runs. They didn't have
any picture that raced out and should have wont to
Cy Young. Their bullpen wasn't as good, but they just
have theyre just a really, really good team, and they

(01:56:43):
played really well in the second half of the year. Yes,
from and I also think that last year it was
a fan favorite. You know, they hadn't won. Everybody jumped
on their bandwagon. Now that they've won the World serious,
now all the people that were on the battlewag and said, okay,
they want it now you can go back and not
really like him anymore. And so the Cubs are kind
of not the team. I don't think don't like them,
but I do think that we look at you differently,

(01:57:03):
we evaluate you differently once you have won, and you
look it happens all the time where team wins, and
that the champagne isn't even dry yet, you know, on
the floor, and people like, well they could get a dynasty,
like it's just not that easy, man, it's like super
and they had one years like can we let it?
Can we let it? There's a lot to what you

(01:57:24):
guys are talking about. If you advance in a bit.
The real test is gonna be what are the Cubs
fans going to do when they don't win again, or
when they aren't winning anymore? Because they were the true
real losers and they embraced losing so much that now
that they're winning, it's still they're still on that high.
But when they start losing again, are they gonna be
the same old loser Cubs? I don't think. I think

(01:57:47):
that's the biggest question with this fan base. They better
ride this out because when they start to drop off
whatever that maybe um my phone agrees with me with that.
I got three points for that around the horse. I
think those days are done. I just do. I think,

(01:58:10):
you know, I just I think the Cubs are well
enough run to where it doesn't matter like now, they're
gonna keep winning. I just I you know, it's it's
once you get well funded, once you get well like that.
The Cubs have always been. They didn't spend any money
on the team, you know, they didn't invest in the

(01:58:33):
team for a long long time. And in the nineties
they were good. They had Ryan Sandberg, they had Andre
Dawson early on, they had Mark Grace. They just weren't great.
Whereas you know, the Cardinals now being a little bit down,
I think gives them kind of a respite, a chance
to catch their breath, and no one else in that
division should be able to consistently compete against them. With

(01:58:54):
all of the young prominent players they have. It's gonna
be interesting to see what happens with the Cubs. But
do I think it's a disappointing season. They won their division,
They had a really good second half of the year.
There were three teams that won a hundred games. They
weren't one of them, but they made the playoffs. I
think we'll be disappointing if they didn't win tonight, but

(01:59:14):
but that would mean that I think the Indian season
is disappointing, and I don't I thought the Indians had
a great season and their best picture just wasn't himself,
wasn't good enough in the most important time of the year.
The Cowboys have had a rough start to the season
and it just got worse. I'll explain next what True Car.

Doug Gotlip Show, Fox Sports Radio. You know we always
wait to the end to make our picks. Let's not
wait to the end, alright, because when we get squeezed
on time music. Uh first baseball game? Who wins? I

(01:59:55):
am gonna go with the Nationals? Okay, um Ramos? Who
you go with? I'm gonna go Cubs tonight? Why are
you going Cubs night? I think they have a better
picture tonight. I think he's on fire, so I like
I like the starting pitching tonight and they're bullpen. Uh,
Dan Buyer, who are you going? I'm gonna go with
the Gnats. Do is there? You have a reason. I

(02:00:16):
just don't want to cheer for the Cubs. Crewer fan
doesn't want cheer for the Cubs. That's fine. Um I
am going to I'm gonna say the Cubs are gonna
win this thing. And my logic behind it is, uh,
you know is it if it's Doolittle against Wade Davis?
I take Way Davis right. These things always come down

(02:00:38):
to the end. And that's really what happened last night
with the Yankees. Like I trusted their clothes, they trust
their closer for six out safe and he got them
a six out safe period. So that's that's kind of
my logic there. And you know, the Cubs have one before,
whereas the Nationals. I think there's still that feeling probably
in that ballpark of something's gonna go wrong here? Or

(02:00:59):
what about the nf FELL game. Panthers three point favorites
at home against Eagles. I'll go first. I'll go with
the Panthers covering. I think I was originally gonna go Eagles,
but with Lane Johnson out, I'm gonna go Panthers. Um,
I think Carson Wentz on a breakout year. I'm gonna
go uh Eagles tonight. Uh. Both are seeking their fifth

(02:01:22):
victory of the season. Okay, remember you got le Garrett
Blunt running for Philadelphia. You got Jonathan Stewart is now
the all time lean rusher in Carolina Panther history. Uh
running for Carolina. Blunt's actually had the better year. Benjamin
Ertz wins Newton Buyer. Who do you got. I'm gonna
take the Eagles tonight in a game with massive receivers.

(02:01:46):
Think about it. You mentioned some of the names. I mean,
you got Art's, Jeffrey Aglare on one side. Then you've
got Calvin Benjamin, Devin Funch, just Ed Dixon on another.
It's just throwing to massive targets tonight. Yeah. No, Ryan Khalil,
I think that that hurts Um. That hurts the Carolina Panthers.
They have some other injury issues as well, so to

(02:02:06):
do the Philadelphia Eagles. Obviously, I'm gonna go with the
Eagles to cover on the road and you know, three points,
I might even win this thing. I think this is
a Carson Wentz kind of breakout sort of game. This
is what but everybody in the NFL has been talking about.
Now more mainstream once it gets the CBS on a
Thursday night. I think the Eagles win tonight, So I'm
taking the Eagles and the Cubs taking the road teams

(02:02:26):
to win tonight. The press. The press is brought to
by True Car. Find out what other people in the
area pay for the same car you're looking for and
who are used Visit True Car to enjoy more confident
car buying experience, Dan Buyer, give me the press. Let's try.
Let's try to clear up everything that's happening with Ezekiel Elliott. Okay,
right now, the six games suspension is back on for

(02:02:46):
right now. But the NFL, p A and Elliott could
refile this case with the Southern District in New York.
This after a Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals in New
Orleans today voted in favor of the NFL and throughout
the stay on the six games suspension. But now the Cowboys,
and I should say the Cowboys running back in the
NFL p A, have a week and a half to

(02:03:07):
try to refile this case. Doug and ask for an
emergency emergency stay on the six games suspension to put
a hold on it while the whole process plays out.
So we're kind of starting back at square one with
all of this. Uh yeah, I still think that he'll
end up playing next week. I don't know why, and
I understand. I just I think this gives them. This

(02:03:28):
happens to come down on a what is today Thursday
has come down on a Thursday. When they don't play
this week, they play next week. I don't know. That
screams to me that he's gonna he's gonna find a
way to play next And for people who are wondering
the reason that the Court of New Orleans throughout the
preliminary injunction and put the suspension back on, it wasn't
necessarily because of any of the evidence that they had.

(02:03:49):
They just said that the Players Association filed their motion
too soon before hearing what Harold Henderson had to say.
And so that's why they said that they filed prematurely
putting these six games suspension back on, claiming the Players
Association didn't exhaust all of their options. That is in
the c B A uh premature filation is that that yes,

(02:04:09):
that's what that's what it is. That's what it is uh,
I'm out. Um. Texans or Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota was
limited in practice today because of a hamstring injury. Titans
have the Colts coming up on Monday night. Doug, Uh,
that's how you got for me? No, I got Morble? Oh,
you just suck at The Raiders quarterback Derek Carliman into

(02:04:31):
practice with a back injury. Bruce Arian says David Johnson
probably not gonna be back until Thanksgiving at the earliest time.
I think you want to see Adrian Peterson's got some
of the tank. I actually think this is a much
better set up for him. And with David Johnson being
out and they like to run the ball downhill, I
think Adrian Peterson goes from I wouldn't touch him with
a ten foot poll in a fantasy too. I kind

(02:04:53):
of like it here. Although he says he can play
four more years, nobody in the NFL believes it. Let's
end with a cigar and a hard drink of Michael
Jordan's old cigar Aficionado that he smoked six cigars a
day while John Daly is relaunching His signature drink is
the Grippa and sip it drinks. Our hard iced tea
and lemonade will be launching real soon, is there. Oh
oh go ahead, go ahead, John bag it out there

(02:05:16):
and pressed. That was the press. I saw this story
in England where there was a couple who was found
Oh it was actually in the United States where was
a couple found to be having relations in a bathroom.
They both got escorted off the property. Cops told them
to go home, arrange rides for both of them. Then
they were both in the porta potti together, Like, yeah,

(02:05:38):
that is that is you know, right, Like humpty Hump
got busy in a burger king bathroom, but Humpty Hump
did not get busy in a burger king porta potts.
There's porta potties can be really really disgusting things, not
all of them. I've actually been in clean porta potis before. Yeah,
I know people though, they got to hold it and

(02:05:58):
almost hurt themselves. Then going to Porter Partos. I'll be
hosting the Herd tomorrow. She'll hear me a little bit earlier.
