one seven seven five zero nine. We also got music
and Ryan hanging out with us, and thank you Fox
Sports Radio Nation against CNR and for.
Speaker 5 (01:21):
Colin on the Herd.
Speaker 6 (01:23):
I think everyone's dragon ass a little bit this week
after that nice fourth at July Break, I think everyone's like, dude,
it's Tuesday only.
Speaker 4 (01:30):
What is going on. There's not a lot of sports,
there's not a lot of anything.
Speaker 3 (01:33):
Really, millions of people pumped to hear Colin to get
that Tuesday kicking the ass second win, and they're like
Covino and Rich, yes, yes, And I'll tell you what.
Speaking of dragon ass though, Rich, Yeah, of all nights,
I chose last night to start my is it called
a CPAP study? What's it called that sleep test for
(01:55):
people who snore and don't get a good night's rest.
I decided, anything on your for the rest of your life.
Speaker 5 (02:01):
I'm gonna start sleeping with one of those.
Speaker 3 (02:06):
Which screams sexy time in the bedroom if you didn't know,
but you have to take a test. You have to
pass this test first. And I've had a sitting and
I was like, you know, tonight's a good night. And
I was up all night, up all night like Gilbert
Gotfried on USA.
Speaker 4 (02:21):
I was up all night. I was up all night.
Speaker 3 (02:23):
With this thing strapped to my finger, seeing if I
qualify for this breathing machine.
Speaker 5 (02:29):
And I just got to tell you the most miserable night.
Speaker 3 (02:32):
So for those of you that are draggon ass, you
don't feel worse than me right now. However, the caffeine's
kicking in and we're here for the herd. So I'm
pumped about that, very pumped about that, but not as
pumped as this Cooper Flag fella.
Speaker 5 (02:45):
Who's Cooper Flag.
Speaker 6 (02:48):
We're gonna tell you all about him. We're gonna talk
about Zach Wilson as a story today. Joey Chestnut is
an American hero. Will tell you why. We're gonna play
some games. Like you said, a lot going on. But yeah,
Cooper Flag, I want everyone to think to themselves right now,
what were you doing when you were seventeen years old?
Think about that for a second, activate the flux capacitor.
(03:09):
Go back to the nineties or eighties or whatever the
hell you were seventeen and think what was I doing?
Because I'll tell you what you weren't doing. You weren't
schooling the best players in the NBA and having the
world wonder who the hell you are?
Speaker 3 (03:22):
Cooper Flag is this gangly, seventeen year old six foot eight,
two hundred pounds kid from Maine. He's a duke incoming freshman.
He's part of the USA Select team, the US Select
team that's scrimmaged against the USA Olympic team the past
three days. And apparently he had a day, and he
(03:44):
had several great days, but he had a day. So
it does pose that question. When you're making three pointers
over Anthony Davis, when you have a putback and your
school in bam Adebayo all defensive player, when you're hitting
jumpers over Drew Holiday, you're doing big things. You're opening
(04:05):
a lot of eyes. And that's what he's doing against
the best of the best. Again as a kid who
doesn't even turn eighteen until December. So how to they
and what were you doing at seventeen? I'll tell you
straight up, when I was doing a seventeen seventeen, I
was working at a clothes store that doesn't even exist anymore,
(04:29):
making what was it, four to twenty five an hour?
What was minimum wage back then in the nineties.
Speaker 6 (04:34):
I remember I worked at Wendy's and I remember it
was five dollars an hour, and I was like, wow,
Wendy's overpaced obviously.
Speaker 3 (04:43):
Yeah, I was living at home with my parents. I
would sneak girls in and tell them I lived with
some old people. I rented out the basement. I lived
in the basement of my parents' house. I was driving
a Nissan Sentra A nine.
Speaker 6 (05:00):
Why I didn't ask what you were doing at thirty?
I said, what were you doing at seventeen?
Speaker 3 (05:03):
No, no, this is no. When I was thirty, I
upgraded to Akrola. Yeah, no, no, no, this is seventeen.
Speaker 5 (05:10):
I had a ninety three CenTra.
Speaker 3 (05:12):
I was working at a store, a clothes store called
the Garage, and they were known for selling brands like
Chess King, And I mean not Chess King.
Speaker 5 (05:22):
Chess King was an off brand.
Speaker 3 (05:23):
They sold like bum equipment and Levi's and things like
that big Johnson T shirts get you ready for the summertime.
So the Garage on Route twenty two in Union, New Jersey,
That's where I was working. And I had no clue
about where I was going to college, what I was
going to do. I was buying CDs with all the
money I had. I was buying lots of music, but
(05:46):
at seventeen zero direction really I was playing sports, obviously
playing baseball, but nothing to this level. This kid might
be the coolest seventeen year old that ever was.
Speaker 6 (05:58):
Let me ask it in a moment, Cooper Flag, and
any seventeen year old knows what a big Johnson T
shirt is. No, not at all, not at all. By
the way, what happened to big Johnson T shirts? That's
an investigation on its own. But you know, you think
about what you were doing at seventeen, and there's so
many layers to this Cooper Flag story, like embracing the moment,
(06:18):
living it up, capitalizing on your opportunity. Because this one
from a situation where day one of scrimmages he showed
that wow, I can hang.
Speaker 4 (06:26):
I you know I could.
Speaker 6 (06:27):
Compete day two based on what he did against the
best of the best. People already thinking woh, twenty twenty
five draft, it's like, are you serious? You know, But
then again, if you see this guy competing like that,
you know, Duke must be licking their chops knowing that
they got a must watch guy now because a guy
whose name you didn't know yesterday or the day before. Now,
(06:51):
you know, and when college hoop starts, what's the number
one guy people are going to be scoping out from
game one of the season, Cavino Cooper.
Speaker 5 (07:00):
So at this job, we open it up to you.
Speaker 3 (07:02):
Fox Sports Radio Nation, The Herd eight one eight one
seven seven five zero nine. Your greatest day today was
a good day for this guy, which was actually what yesterday?
So he had a day in What were you doing
at seventeen? Now, it makes me think of not only
what was I doing at seventeen again, just trying to
(07:24):
get my name in the paper playing sports? That was
really the focus, right, What was your coolest moment? Wearing
your jersey to high school? Wearing your jersey to high
school was a cool feeling.
Speaker 4 (07:34):
Oh, you know, hoping you got to blurb in the
local paper like.
Speaker 6 (07:37):
Fritch went three for four with two doubles, Like you
were hoping you got that right up in the local paper.
Speaker 3 (07:42):
Yeah, maybe, you know, hanging on the parents refrigerator, Like
what was the big thrill? This guy's playing with the
best of the best. Granted, you gotta figure he's going
all out. He's just straight balling again, trying to open
up some eyes trying to get some respect. These dudes
are just practicing for the most part, but then when
he starts being dominant, any competitors going to step up.
(08:02):
I'm sure Anthony Davis wasn't happy about it. Steve Kerr
couldn't really speak about it, although he did say that
the select team was bringing it, you know, with all
these young players and G League players. So when I
think of my best days, because this has to go
down in this kid's young life as his best day.
Yet I would.
Speaker 4 (08:23):
Imagine how bunk is that?
Speaker 6 (08:25):
By the way, Danny G I'm guessing I think that's
draft rules and a current NBA coach can't talk about
a current possible college player.
Speaker 5 (08:34):
Yeah, yeah, hampering mm hm.
Speaker 6 (08:36):
But the fact that Kerk can't even say, you know,
the kid lit it up, Like he can't even say
anything is sort of lame, right.
Speaker 3 (08:41):
He just made a generic statement about how they all
played competitive and they were all great competitors, but everybody
was talking about this kid Cooper Flag. So basically it
might be a kid you never heard of, but today
everybody's talking about him because of this performance. Like how
cool is that to wake up to You're just again,
(09:01):
tall kid out of Maine. And by the way, he
was always a great player. Music was telling us before,
like he was all everything, and he was so good.
Speaker 5 (09:11):
He was so bored.
Speaker 3 (09:11):
He had to go to some private school to find
competition at his level in Maine. And it's no surprise
that he's good. Nobody knew he can compete on this level.
Speaker 6 (09:22):
Well, yeah, one day, the average person doesn't know your name.
The next day every sports fan's like, oh, you're a
Cooper Flag. It's like huk to a girl. One day,
she's just a girl on the street in Nashville. The
next day she's making tens of thousands of dollars at
club appearances and people at merchandise and every meme. Now
your parents are seeing the Hawk to a memes.
Speaker 3 (09:40):
But he's always been good, is my point. It's not
like he just out of nowhere is good. It's just
out of nowhere we know him. Was where were his stats?
Speaker 5 (09:48):
Music?
Speaker 7 (09:50):
So in high school, he was the Gatorade Player of
the Year as a freshman in Maine, and then at
the end of his freshman year, I need some better competition.
So he had to transfer to an academy school down
in Florida that has basically been the consensus number one
overall recruit for the twenty twenty five class. And now
as we see, people are probably quickly across the NBA
(10:12):
getting ready to tank for Cooper Flag.
Speaker 3 (10:14):
Yeah, so he was no schlub, but it's got people saying, hmm,
all right, now.
Speaker 4 (10:21):
I've had over a leg for Flag.
Speaker 3 (10:23):
Yeah no, yeah, exactly. So again, most of us didn't
know this guy. Now everybody's talking about him today, So
it's a two part doozy. Your best day and what
were you doing at seventeen? Because he's got most of
our acts beat by far? By far? My best day,
I would say, because this was what three days of scrimmaging,
(10:47):
so he had a series, right, So I'd say my
best two day span ever was in two thousand and nine,
and I hope I have more great days to come.
But in two thousand and nine, get this, Yankees are
in the world. See I'm super pumped about it. Hell yeah.
And then I'm having a baby, not me, my ex
(11:08):
my exes. I know I might look like it. Already
had a few calls. He's going to be a soccer player,
he is, but I'm having a baby. The Yankees lose
on November first, I'm like, oh, no, they when did
they win?
Speaker 4 (11:29):
Do you forget your Yankees birthday? And the Yankees worth?
Speaker 3 (11:32):
Yankees win the World Series on the third. My daughter
was born on the second, so I was in the
hospital for the second and the third. Those are my
best two days, so great and so great. I forgot
the dates.
Speaker 4 (11:43):
I was gonna say, you're really, You're that bad at calendar.
Speaker 3 (11:45):
I knew my daughter's birthday, obviously, I was trying to
remember when the Yankees won.
Speaker 5 (11:49):
The Yankees didn't win that day.
Speaker 3 (11:51):
The Yankees won the day after, not the day before,
the day after, So I was like, ah, but two
great days back to back and belly to belly, and
I remember, Wow, I'm not sure if it gets better
than this.
Speaker 5 (12:03):
I just became a dad.
Speaker 3 (12:04):
I was super pumped about it, and the Yankees won
the World Series, and I was celebrating the World Series
win in the hospital, and I still got those pictures
of like, here's me brand new dad with the baby.
Speaker 5 (12:15):
Good moment, good day, good time.
Speaker 3 (12:19):
How about you when it comes to best day ever
or best series, best few days, I.
Speaker 6 (12:27):
Have nothing compared to Cooper Flag or you who doesn't
even remember the days I would say, I mean individual days,
like would you say, I mean, everyone's going to say
what I became a dad or a mom?
Speaker 3 (12:40):
All those I had a little job, the Yankees won
the World Series, and I became a dad. Look, we've
all we all, most of us have the ability to
become dads. Is the fact that it happened that same time.
Speaker 6 (12:54):
Yeah, the the forty nine Ers almost helped me there
because my son's birthday was on Super Bowl Sunday this
year and the forty nine Ers lost, and I'm a
big Niners fan. I told my wife, I'm like, how
cool would be if the forty nine Ers won the
Super Bowl for the first time since ninety four ninety
five when I was a little teenager on our son's birthday.
Speaker 4 (13:17):
Damn, Patrick Mahomes ruined my day.
Speaker 6 (13:19):
So I don't have anything convening, all right, My teams lose,
and being a dad is a generic answer. So I'll
be honest those days where you get the phone call,
no matter what you do for a living, when you
get that call from the boss like hey, we want
to talk, and you get like a big raise or
hey listen, I'll be honest. Top ten, Top ten moment
has to be when we got the call from the
Fox Sports radio bosses saying, hey, we're making room for
(13:40):
you guys on the full time lineup.
Speaker 3 (13:42):
That was pretty dope. Yeah, we had a cool meeting.
I'll never forget that. Yeah, those are great moments. Fist
pumps in the air for anybody. Great news. And it's
funny from your perspective because our happiness relies on these
teams and some other cool life moments. But these are
the guys that are actually doing it, Guys like Cooper Flagg,
they're actually playing in these games that we're all excited about.
Speaker 6 (14:04):
I mean, people are going to think back to remember
opening that envelope when they probably don't mail it anymore.
Remember opening the envelope? Is it thick or thin? Based
on did you get admitted to that college?
Speaker 3 (14:15):
Yes, But growing up on the East Coast, I really
didn't apply to many schools. You know, Like I said,
take me back to seventeen. I had zero guidance, man,
zero guidance, I know school I was going to. I
had no idea what I was gonna do.
Speaker 6 (14:28):
You didn't apply to a bunch of colleges and get
all the response letters in the mail.
Speaker 3 (14:31):
And all I did, but only the like, only the
local ones. I'm from again, the East Coast, New Jersey,
and I ended up going to Montclair State University because
they had a decent baseball team.
Speaker 5 (14:40):
At the time, they were national champions. I was like,
all right, I'll do that.
Speaker 3 (14:43):
All I knew at seventeen was baseball and playing music,
and I don't really know much more now, to be honest,
but that was it. So what were you doing at seventeen?
And your greatest day eight one eight eight one seven
seven five zero nine. I'd love to hear Danny G
He's greatest day music. Have you ever had a moment
(15:03):
that compares? Probably not, because we're all here in the
radio studio, right, we weren't that great at sports. We
just love sports. But this dude was competing with the
best of them. Danny G, you got something, super producer,
you know, Rich. We're in our old studio and I
think everybody forgot how to use it. No.
Speaker 8 (15:23):
What it is is they refurbished this studio, so it's
new equipment in front of some of us.
Speaker 5 (15:28):
I like the feeling of our old studios. Yeah, this
is cool.
Speaker 8 (15:31):
This is where the CNR extravaganza began on Sunday nights
on the network.
Speaker 3 (15:37):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (15:37):
For me, I would say the greatest day ever was
August fifth, twenty twenty three. Coha was born Future Raider
hashtag future Raider. He's as big as a linebacker, already
about to turn one, and as far as being seventeen.
I know what you're gonna think. You know, how could
my career get any better after this? But young, I
(16:00):
was already working in radio at seventeen for ninety eight
point three kx K Mix Radio Modesto, Stockton, and I
was like the little doogie howser on the staff. And
then now fast forward to Covino and Rich. Yes, I
peaked then, and my my career has gone downhill ever since.
Speaker 4 (16:20):
Wait, you're DANYG from k Mix.
Speaker 5 (16:22):
Yeah, sir, he's dad DG.
Speaker 3 (16:24):
You know, I think we all have to hold on
to the thought, even if it's just.
Speaker 5 (16:31):
It's just false. We have to hold on to the.
Speaker 3 (16:34):
Thought that we haven't peaked yet, Like no, no, no,
the best is yet to come. If your day pales
in comparison to Cooper Flags, and for most people it has,
you have to believe somehow to keep you going that no, no, no,
it's just because it hasn't happened yet. Oh of course
I'm still motivated by that.
Speaker 4 (16:55):
I really have that with not only sports. Covine.
Speaker 6 (16:57):
I think about that with music, not music the producer,
like actual music. I think about that with you see
some teenage teeny bopper on stage, and you're thinking they're
like Olivia Rodrigo, like if you got daughters or kids.
Like you see some young woman on a stage at
like Madison Square Garden or something, You're thinking to yourself,
(17:20):
this kid is on stage in front of twenty thousand people.
When I was sixteen seventeen, I was picking my nose
working at Wendy's, Like, it's amazing how a guy like
Cooper Flag come out of not nowhere, just as Ryan
pointed out, he was a you know, elite young player
in Maine, moved out to Florida. But the simple fact
that you always think about this, remember the show Pros
(17:43):
versus Joe's. Of course, everyone always wonders, you know, like
what if a regular dude did compete against the like
a pro.
Speaker 3 (17:52):
I was a bigger fan of American gladiators. I was like,
I think I could take Nitro. I think I could
do this.
Speaker 6 (17:58):
Yeah, but when you think of out like pros versus Joe's,
I know, Cooper, is it necessarily a Joe? But he
is just a regular seventeen year old kid. He's a
good kidball player. Yeah, he's still a kid. So it's
a funny story.
Speaker 4 (18:13):
He's dominated every step of the way.
Speaker 6 (18:15):
You don't think he's ever daydreamed like, hey, what if
I did play against Lebron or ad or Drew Holliday
or any of these guys. He's daydreamed about it. The
opportunity came up and he held his own and actually
played really well.
Speaker 4 (18:26):
What a great moment for this kid.
Speaker 3 (18:27):
And that's the goal to hold your own. And he
went above and beyond. And I said it and I'll
say it again, and it's not to take away and
I can't take away from his moment and the cool story.
And that's not my point. But you have to imagine
he's going all out, dude, and they're very casual about it.
They're just there, we're scrimmaging. We're not trying to get hurt,
(18:48):
you know, we're just going through the motions. And he's
pushing them to their limits, going all out. There's a
difference there. There's a difference between you know, that guy
that's going all out and the guy that's shooting. We
could all sort of we could all sort of relive
that to some degree. As though as you get older,
if you ever hit a basketball court, you're just shooting around.
(19:08):
You just want to shoot around. That's all I want
to do, shoot around and maybe play the old guy role.
And I'm not old, but I'm not trying to get hurt.
I'm not trying to roll an ankle. So I'll play,
but I just want to shoot. Really, I'm not trying
to get in the mix, the K mix with Danny g.
So my point is some younger dudes, some younger dudes
will roll up to the court and they're acting like
(19:31):
they're in it to win it, and they're playing real aggressive,
and then they start pushing you to play harder. But
you're like, hold on, slow down. I was just shooting
around and these guys are going all out. That's kind
of what's going on here on the highest of levels.
Speaker 6 (19:45):
I get your analogy, but you with some you know,
I'll pack aheaded twenty year olds at twenty four. Our fitness,
I don't think it's the same thing as Lebron.
Speaker 3 (19:53):
On a lower level. These broccoli heads. If I'm there shooting,
these broccoli heads roll up and they start wanting to
play because they're twenty something in aggressive right I'm forty something.
I'm just hanging. These guys are in that mindset and
in that mode. They're not trying to really compete right now.
They're just scrimmaging. And you got this young, broccoli headed dude.
(20:14):
You got this seventeen year old kid playing like his
career depends on it. There is a difference. I just
want to point that out.
Speaker 6 (20:23):
I gotta ask, since we are filling in for the herd,
who wins a three point shootout? You were Jason McIntyre.
You've seen his instagram. That dude's always booping.
Speaker 3 (20:34):
The competitive side of me says I'll win in anything.
That's just me being delusional. Way if you're a hand
in the face or not. Because Covino's great when there's
no defense, is he defending me? Because then he'll probably
win If there's no defense, Yeah, I'll take them.
Speaker 6 (20:46):
If people don't know, Cavino uncontested seventy five percent from
three point range contested seven percent.
Speaker 3 (20:52):
Yeah, But when I have an alpaca boy, some young
kid with his broccoli haircut in front of my face. Yeah,
then it's a little different. So I'm just pointing out
again the obvious. But I want to make it clear.
I doubt that these Olympic caliber players, these superstars that
we know like Anthony Davis, were playing all out the
way this kid was. Maybe at some point they did,
(21:16):
but I'm sure they weren't expecting all that from him.
But props to him. Again, what were you doing? And
tell us about your greatest day ever? Plus, I know
you want to get to this mystery anniversary Rich.
Speaker 4 (21:26):
Ah, Yeah, because you know what one year ago, actually
we missed it. It was yesterday.
Speaker 6 (21:30):
Shame on you, Shame on me. An anniversary in the
world of sports and entertainment went down yesterday. And I'll
let you know what it is next and sort of
changed the whole trajectory of the sports world. I'll explain
this is a big one. We'll talk about it next.
Cavino Rich hanging in for Colin on The Herd. It's
Fox Sports Radio More.
Speaker 2 (21:50):
Next, be sure to catch live editions of The Herd
weekdays in noon eastern non am Pacific on Fox Sports
Radio FS one and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 3 (22:03):
Yeah, the CNR show in for Colin on the Herd,
Covino and Rich normally Monday through Friday, five to seven
on the East two to four out here on the
West side Batos Slow Goals Forever. We also have a
bonus podcast called over Promised on Fox Sports Radio's YouTube
(22:23):
page because blubber Lips Davis always over promises things we
don't have time for, so catch it on Fox Sports
Radio's YouTube page. And I hope you're having a Cooper
Flag sort of day. If you don't know who that is,
you will. He had a week. He's having a day.
Everybody's talking about him. He's the story of the day.
He's that six foot eight, seventeen year old little goon
(22:46):
from Maine, incoming freshman at Duke that schooled the US
Olympic team, so pops to him. He's on that US
select team that scrimmaged against them. He put up big numbers,
and we talked about, you know, what were you doing
at seventeen? You were just excited about Newdy magazine day.
This guy is playing against the best and doing well.
Speaker 6 (23:06):
I was making my broadcasting debut, but not at a
radio station at the Wendy's drive through.
Speaker 3 (23:10):
I think your honor and it looks like you're wearing
the same headset I am.
Speaker 4 (23:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (23:15):
It's podcasting live in Texas, Caminos back in La. It's
those dog days of summer where it's a lot of
nonsense going on in the world of sports.
Speaker 3 (23:22):
Well, perfect baseball. We're the worldwide leaders of nonsense, so
it makes sense.
Speaker 4 (23:26):
It's a baseball season.
Speaker 6 (23:28):
My Mets, every time they get back to five hundred,
they flounder a little bit. Your Yankees are struggling, Danny
dg Your Dodgers are you know when you're good like
the Dodgers, you're sort of just biding time into the playoffs.
And that's gotta be a weird feeling as a fan because, like,
you enjoy it, but aren't you just like, man, you
better not choking the playoffs again, Like that's in the
back of your mind right for sure.
Speaker 8 (23:48):
And they're dealing with a lot of injuries and pitching
rotation is a little screwy right now, So you're right.
As long as they can finish the regular season strong.
Speaker 3 (23:57):
Every championship team see their ups and down. It's a
long as season so you don't have to worry about
that stuff. But yeah, I hope you're having a Cooper
Flag sort of week. Rich, Not to pat myself on
the back like Barry Horowitz, but your boys having a week.
I've had a great past seven days, let's say.
Speaker 4 (24:18):
But in the bedroom.
Speaker 3 (24:20):
Maybe Slady on Dan Patrick, we're having fun on the Herd.
We're in for Colin cow Herd, the biggest show in
the country, right, doesn't get bigger better than this having
fun in the old studio. Your boy was on Access
TV last night music Mayhem. I don't know if you
saw me, but I was also on the History Channel
(24:41):
this weekend, Icons that Built America, talking shock.
Speaker 6 (24:45):
Chocks, chilling, and you school and you schooled some kids
at the twenty four foot and I.
Speaker 3 (24:50):
Was hitting threes like you don't even know. I won
a game a horse. Yo.
Speaker 5 (24:54):
My week's been all right. I haven't slept well.
Speaker 4 (24:56):
But what are you gonna challenge Jason mckinn.
Speaker 3 (25:00):
We need what is it with you in this What
are you challenging Colin In? I want to know, may
oh Colin? Yeah, are you trying to set something up?
Speaker 5 (25:08):
I'll play scrabble? Yeah, Rich is going words with friends.
Speaker 4 (25:14):
I feel like I look good in light blue button down,
so I'm gonna chatch him.
Speaker 5 (25:17):
To oh nice, all right, all right, anyway.
Speaker 3 (25:20):
Like I'm a runway walking, I feel like I'm having
a pretty good week, and this is this is a
good way to to cap it off early on a Tuesday.
Speaker 6 (25:28):
Listen, man, your Yankees while they are struggling. I thought
Ben Rice was a great story for the Yankees. And
I'm excited about the.
Speaker 3 (25:34):
All Star break because, as we always say, of all
the four major sports, you know, football, baseball, basketball, and
hot dog gating, Yeah, the home run derby by far
the most fun.
Speaker 6 (25:44):
And they adjusted the rules a little bit, so we'll
be looking forward to that. That's a week from yesterday.
A week from today, you got the All Star Game
with thirty two new players. So that's something to talk
forward to. But you know what else is tomorrow, Carino.
We're less than a month away of football kicking off.
This is the last month without football, and tomorrow on
Netflix receiver now we all watch Quarterback following the life
(26:08):
of Mariota Kirk Cousins, who became the most lovable dork
in the NFL, and Patrick Mahomes. Not only is his
wife looking real good lately in these bikini shoots she's doing.
Speaker 3 (26:20):
You realize that she is who previously had the title
for most lovable dork in the NFL is Eli Manning.
Speaker 5 (26:26):
Do you think, how do you think previously held the crown?
Speaker 3 (26:30):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (26:31):
Eli's the goat in that category, So yeah.
Speaker 3 (26:33):
That Cousins is definitely up there. But it is great insight, Rich,
And the first taste that I got of this as
a sports fan is twenty four to seven. Back in
the day.
Speaker 5 (26:43):
I used to love that.
Speaker 3 (26:44):
You know, because you're following two fighters you don't know
a whole lot about, and you feel more invested. And
you felt more invested watching quarterback, You're gonna feel more
invested watching receiver and moving forward.
Speaker 5 (26:57):
That's the key to this.
Speaker 3 (26:57):
You get to know these players on a person level. Rich,
You're a forty nine Ers fan, so of course you
know Kittle day and day out and debo, but again
it's justin Jefferson Devonte Adams. You get to know what
these guys are about, so aside from your own team,
there's a little bit more of a rooting interest that
pulls you in to the storylines this coming season. I
love that I love when I feel more invested about
(27:18):
these players as people or these athletes as people.
Speaker 6 (27:23):
Well, much like you tying it into next week's baseball festivities.
If a guy on your team's in the home run derby,
or you know, if your NBA favorite player is in
the three point shootout, there's more interest because it's like, Yo,
that's my guy, Danny G I can only imagine that
you're interested in this. But the fact that Devontae Adams
is on it, you're like, oh, I get some insight
into the Raiders locker room in that world.
Speaker 3 (27:44):
Yeah, let's go.
Speaker 8 (27:45):
And he's out a little bit of a crossroads right
now because he's still one of the elite receivers, but
he's obviously getting up there in age a little bit
for a receiver.
Speaker 6 (27:54):
But you've seen Kittle micd Up before, so you can
only imagine Kittle will be a very interesting part of
the series.
Speaker 4 (27:59):
Because he's just a character. So that starts tomorrow in
the NFL.
Speaker 6 (28:04):
And did you see They asked Travis Kelcey if he
wanted to do it, but he said, Yo, no more
of this reality TV s.
Speaker 4 (28:11):
He's doe.
Speaker 6 (28:11):
He doesn't want to be in the spotlight. But Kelsey
was asked to do it, but I think you got
some great stars.
Speaker 3 (28:17):
He has some PTSD in the world of reality TV.
If you remember, we interviewed Travis back in the day
when he was promoting what was it called Chasing Kelsey,
his reality dating show back in the day. That's where
we met him years ago at Serious XM. And then
we recently had on Ed Kelsey at the Super Bowl?
Was that last year? That was last year, right, two
(28:38):
years ago the time flying, So this is pre Taylor, right.
So two years ago we had Ed Kelsey on the show,
and I remember Ed was very, very forthcoming about his
disdain when it came to that reality TV world.
Speaker 5 (28:55):
He was like, I told him not to do it.
It was stupid, he was.
Speaker 3 (28:59):
He said something along the lines of, you know, we
told him not to do it. He did it anyway,
and he wasn't a big fan of that. So I'm
sure Kelsey's decision, especially with the circus that he's surrounded
by now, had something to do with that.
Speaker 6 (29:12):
I feel like, we're all gonna come out of this
the same way we came out of Quarterback. Where are
you gonna be like, Oh, I like that guy more
than I thought her, that guy's sort of boring.
Speaker 4 (29:22):
I wonder, I think we need more of that still
in those roles.
Speaker 5 (29:25):
Yeah, we need more of that in sports.
Speaker 3 (29:26):
Like I said, nothing got you more fired up than
the voice of Leev Schreiber and him talking about Manny
pac Man Pachiel and Floyd Meweather whoever he was covering
while they were jogging the streets of Oxtar in California.
Speaker 5 (29:45):
That would get you so pumped up.
Speaker 3 (29:47):
So when they bring this into the world of football
or any sport, I think we need more backstory, more
of that get us intrigued, pull us in, get us
invested well.
Speaker 6 (29:57):
I think receiver is gonna be a huge Like Danny
G's dude, DeVante Adams. That's an interesting story because you're right,
he's a star, but out of crossroads on a team
with maybe not their quarterback.
Speaker 5 (30:08):
Everybody's got a story you just don't You just don't
know it.
Speaker 4 (30:12):
Look at Kittle and Deebo.
Speaker 6 (30:13):
They're on a team that keeps getting close but can't
finish in San Francisco. There's a story there. Jefferson getting
all that money he's in Minnesota. There's a lot of
great stories that you're gonna see and Brown By the.
Speaker 4 (30:25):
Way, that's that's a great story.
Speaker 6 (30:26):
Detroit coming out of nowhere and everyone's like, wow, they
are they here to stay? Are they a competitor for
the next five years or so?
Speaker 4 (30:34):
We'll see again. This is all tomorrow episode one. I'm
sure there's a few that are released tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (30:40):
You know what's funny about this though, You keep talking
about receiver tomorrow and everybody is excited about it, but
you totally like jump over the fact that Hard Knocks
is on you so don't care about the New York
Football Giants that you just don't even care.
Speaker 5 (30:54):
That's tonight.
Speaker 3 (30:55):
So episode two is tonight, and the first episode, I'm
telling you, is good. That's the beauty of all this stuff.
You don't have to be a fan who appreciated You
don't have to be a Giants fan to get excited
about Hard Knocks and learn a little something about the team.
Speaker 6 (31:08):
Due to anyone that anyone that believes that Daniel Jones
is the future of the world, I can't get on board.
Speaker 3 (31:13):
But no, they don't. They don't. The new GM of
the Giants tells his staff, we don't know if this
is our guy or not.
Speaker 5 (31:20):
Yeah, it's awkward.
Speaker 8 (31:21):
Yeah, and that Saquon money they didn't have is in
the quarterback's pocket and he's like, we're going to see
if that money was well spent or not.
Speaker 3 (31:28):
Dude, By the way that Danny g points out some
really good observations. Because you're sitting there thinking, am I
supposed to be hearing this? Like you're really fly on
the wall watching this stuff. It must be really awkward
for the players to hear all the management talk about them,
just like just like their budget cuts, their numbers, they're
just they're just numbers in the company. How are we
(31:51):
going to figure this out? How are we going to
balance this? Do we let Saquon go? It's really cool
to see, really cool to hear so again receivers different
level of intrigue. I get it, and they cover a
lot of different players. But don't sleep on hard knocks.
If baseball's boring you and you're excited about football a
month from now, you could watch episode two, one and
two tonight. Who cares giants or not? It's it's good.
(32:13):
I'm telling you, it's good.
Speaker 5 (32:14):
I started.
Speaker 6 (32:15):
I'm intrigued enough on a boring night, I'm trying to
catch up on the Boys on Amazon. I'm caught up
on my other shows. Well, now you told me I
have to watch the Bachelorette, so maybe I'll watch the
Bachelorette and Hard Knocks.
Speaker 5 (32:27):
It was surprisingly decent.
Speaker 3 (32:29):
The girlfriend for reference was watching it, and I was
there by default, and I got invested in myself justifying
yes I am.
Speaker 5 (32:37):
Because there's a lot of people are like, who are
these idiots?
Speaker 3 (32:39):
This one's talking about crying at a cartoon, the other
guy's talking about the Bachelorette. I'm not trying to get
that reputation. I'm trying to make it clear, be a man,
be yourself. I am myself.
Speaker 2 (32:50):
I was.
Speaker 3 (32:51):
I got hit with the shrapnel of the Bachelorette. It
was just done own it.
Speaker 2 (32:55):
I like it.
Speaker 5 (32:56):
So I like Bachelor and Paradise. That's my I like
that A big trash TV guy.
Speaker 8 (33:02):
Well, and to answer your question really quick, rich, a
quick Google machine search says all eight episodes of Receiver
premiere tonight on Netflix July ten.
Speaker 4 (33:13):
I don't know if I want to.
Speaker 6 (33:14):
I don't know if I want to relive the forty
nine ers for tomorrow or but I will watch. I'm
excited to see a little behind the scenes, and you
know what, Cavino, there is a thought you got me
thinking based on what you said.
Speaker 4 (33:27):
I think it's fair and I'll tell you why.
Speaker 6 (33:28):
As far as them talking maybe out of school, as
you would say, these guys.
Speaker 4 (33:34):
Are making tens of millions of dollars.
Speaker 6 (33:35):
This isn't like someone talking smack about a Walmart work
or someone at your office like this is you know,
if you're talking, is Daniel Jones worth it? When a
guy's making forty million dollars a year, I think you could.
Speaker 4 (33:46):
Publicly speculate it.
Speaker 3 (33:47):
I really do.
Speaker 6 (33:47):
It's like, Yo, we're paying you forty million dollars a
year deliver or we'll publicly say we made a mistake.
Speaker 3 (33:53):
And it's you.
Speaker 2 (33:54):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (33:54):
It is wild to see though, so worth to watch again.
Hard Knocks episode two tonight. Speaking of football, I know
we're getting fired. It's All Star week. Baseball is in
the air. Rich doesn't care because he's a Mets fan.
Speaker 5 (34:06):
I get all that.
Speaker 4 (34:07):
I care Home Run Derby.
Speaker 3 (34:10):
He's gonna put on a show. I'm excited about it.
But a lot of people excited about football being a
month away. You know, Joe Burrow was in the news
for defending his backless suit and he was talking about
the football schedule.
Speaker 6 (34:23):
Yeah, he was also talking about how he thinks there
should be no taunting penalties. He did a pretty pretty
cool interview with Barstool and I was like the takeaway
that people are talking about with Burrow, they're making a
team like this is his idea. Hey, if you want
to give Joe Burrow credit, have at it.
Speaker 3 (34:38):
But by the way, rich really likable regardless of who
you root for. I think everybody could agree certain guys
like Patrick Mahomes, you can't hate the dude, right, And
as we get to know Joe Burrow, you could just
appreciate that he is a cool dude regardless of what
team you root for. He's a very likable guy.
Speaker 6 (34:58):
For years, you and I have to talked about the
difference between confidence and arrogance, and Joe Burrow knows that line.
I look at him as just a confident dude that
he could laugh at himself, he could have some fun.
Speaker 4 (35:11):
I like Joe Burrow a lot. I'm a I'm a
Joe Burrow fan.
Speaker 3 (35:14):
Well, isn't and isn't confidence a lot like arrogance with
a smile? Isn't that the saying or the sentiment is
is sort of arrogance with the shrug with a little
bit of a smirk, with a little bit of a smile,
because you're not taking yourself that serious.
Speaker 6 (35:30):
You're just confident seriously that Yeah, that's when you're arrogant
and you're a jo, when you're the guy that's like,
I'm the man, but you never laugh about it. It's like, dude,
take don't take yourself so serious. Joe Burrow is talking
about the NFL schedule. I don't think he's the guy
that you get credit, but a lot of I see
a lot of people on social media saying, man, Joe
Burrow's onto something and Danny g spot guys. We talked
(35:54):
about this the other day briefly with our Update anchor Monsey.
Joe Burrow suggest eventually we will go to an eighteen
game schedule. It's inevitable that Roger Goodell and the teams
will agree to eighteen games. When we do go to
eighteen games, think about it. We went from sixteen to
seventeen like that. We didn't blink an eye. We will
go to eighteen. When we go to eighteen games in
(36:15):
the NFL, if each team got two bye weeks, and
then Burrow suggested week thirteen everyone gets a bye and
it becomes sort of like an All Star weekend, an
NFL Pro Bowl weekend where his skills competitions and you know,
the fans celebrate the stars of the league. Then by
(36:36):
doing that two by weeks the All Star Pro Bowl weekend,
you're backing up the super Bowl to be President's Day weekend,
which means everyone would have that Monday.
Speaker 5 (36:46):
Off, which is what everybody wanted it always.
Speaker 6 (36:48):
It's it's sort of like maybe that caveat that Burrow
added with the week thirteen Pro Bowl festivities, it seems
like a touchdown pun intended. It really does seem like right,
eighteen games, two by weeks, expanded roster thirteen, everyone gets off,
and then the Super Bowl holiday weekend. Do you think
(37:10):
anyone will dispute that, Danny Cavino, Is anyone going to
say that's not a great idea.
Speaker 3 (37:15):
No, And again, like I said, that's what everybody always wanted.
Let's make it a national holiday. We should have that
Monday off. This lines up perfectly where you could just
still have off and still enjoy your Super Bowl and
not worry about work the next day.
Speaker 5 (37:31):
So I think it's perfect.
Speaker 3 (37:32):
So Joe Burrow not only Joe cool, he's got the swag,
he's got the style, he's likable, but he's got the answers.
So again and he thought, Danny Gay, we get music. Yeah.
Speaker 8 (37:43):
We especially raved about the holiday aspect of this when
we were doing Sunday nights on the network because we
were on Yeah Live for the Super Bowl, remember, and
you guys during that shift were saying, man, it should
be a national holiday tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (37:58):
I mean everybody dreads that next day at work? You know,
you ate how much five layer dip could you eat
and not feel it the next day? Right, you're boozing
and schmoozing, eating wings like your Joey chestnut. Would you
have two hundred wings? You slob and then you have
to go to work the next day. No, this you
get to celebrate with your ab linking top hat. You
(38:19):
get to enjoy your day off, President's Day weekend. I
like it music, you like it, You're feeling it.
Speaker 7 (38:24):
I think there's a lot going on in the world
and in America that we can be divided over, but
this has got to be the one thing we're all
unified on.
Speaker 5 (38:32):
I'm trying to think what would be the problem though Extra.
Speaker 6 (38:36):
Music picks up a great point. We fight about everything
as a society. I haven't heard one person say, boy
and it's about that one's going I would love to
have work the Monday after the Super Bowl. Well, that
person doesn't exist.
Speaker 3 (38:48):
That actually raises an interesting question because there's always somebody, right,
Like there's an.
Speaker 5 (38:52):
Out of ten doctors, you're like, who's the one, Yeah.
Speaker 3 (38:55):
Exactly, There's always somebody who didn't vote for Derek Jeter
in the Hall of Fame or something. There's always one idiot, right,
So what would be the problem rich the extra extra time?
Speaker 4 (39:07):
We keep adding too much football? Like who doesn't want
more football? Who doesn't want.
Speaker 3 (39:11):
These guys to get the proper rest so they don't
have injuries? Who doesn't want them wants how they weaken?
Speaker 4 (39:16):
And not only the other caveat COVI.
Speaker 6 (39:17):
Now there's something if you made the if you made
the Pro Bowl and those skills, things relevant like mid
season instead of the throwaway week.
Speaker 4 (39:25):
After the Super Bowl or in between, Like no one
wants that.
Speaker 3 (39:27):
Well, what's going out there? What's that famous meme? Is like, uh,
it's a meme of a stick or something like that
it's like, here's a stick, argue about it, and people
are really like debating it is a stick, it's more
of a twig. It's not you know, people will fight
over everything and anything. I'm really curious to see what
the problem is. I don't think and you said the
extra game, Rich, I don't think any real football fan
(39:49):
would complain about more football.
Speaker 5 (39:52):
Yeah, so I don't. I don't even see that being
an argument, or a solid one at least.
Speaker 4 (39:57):
And not only is Joe Burrow coming up with we'll
give him the credit.
Speaker 6 (40:02):
Joe Burrow's hanging out at the White Party with Tom
Brady and Livy Dunn and Jake Paul and you know,
Drake was there.
Speaker 4 (40:09):
Everyone of important.
Speaker 6 (40:10):
I got to ask, I'm glad you're the type of guy,
Danny g You know Cavino, he's a type of guy
that so badly wants to be there.
Speaker 3 (40:16):
I totally do again, you need him out, Dervs. You
know that would probably happen. Someone would hand me their
keys and I would be really insulted. But and that's
happened to me in real life so many times. I'm
not even joking. Yeah, I'm not even choking, dude. I
was waiting for my car at a car wash. Someone
told me I missed the spot and handed me a towel.
I'm not even kidding you, true, I know, but I
(40:40):
do want to get to that White Party. And if
you don't know what we're talking about, Michael Rubin is
the owner of Fanatics. I became a fan of this
dude from watching him on Shark Tank, believe it or not,
because he's one of those guest sharks trying to audition
for mister Wonderful's job.
Speaker 5 (40:59):
Barbara Corkran's.
Speaker 3 (41:00):
She hates guest sharks because they're just really trying to
figure out who the next shark is gonna be.
Speaker 5 (41:06):
Is it gonna be a Rod? Is it gonna be
Michael Rubin.
Speaker 3 (41:09):
But he's the owner of Fanatics, all the jerseys that
you're rocking that you see in MLB, all the memorabilia Fanatics, hats, jerseys, clothing, sports,
and he throws this ridiculous invite only white party Fourth
of July weekend and it's almost nauseating to see the
celebrity stroke fest of invites that are there. It's everybody
(41:31):
from Joe Burrow to Tom Brady. I mean, you gotta
be somebody who knows somebody there's doing something big to
get this invite. The invite itself is an art piece
done by some sassy artist and each invitation's worth like
fifty to one hundred thousand dollars. But you got to
be the hot dude in the moment to get this invite,
(41:54):
So why wouldn't you want to be that?
Speaker 5 (41:56):
It'll never happen, but why not use that as motivation?
We work in entertainment.
Speaker 3 (42:00):
If you're a Doug who works as an electrician, yeah,
I don't know how you're gonna make your way there.
And Doug, you're a great guy, and then you probably
make great money. But we work in entertainment. That would
be awesome to get that invite.
Speaker 4 (42:15):
Keep dreaming, bro, why not?
Speaker 5 (42:16):
You wouldn't want to go.
Speaker 4 (42:19):
I'd end up divorced, but you wouldn't want to go
to this.
Speaker 3 (42:22):
It's you know what I always I roll my eyes
at Hollywood elite, or I guess this would be sports
elite mixed with Hollywood elite, like Met Gallas and stuff
like that. Like I'm not going anywhere where, I gotta
wear a ridiculous outfit or a backless suit like Joe Burrow,
But a party schmoozing and boozing with all the people
you admire and talk about every day. Who wouldn't want
(42:43):
to be there? I know there's some also, there's also
speculation that it's a little bit of a weird thing
going on, and yeah, but I don't. I don't see
it that way. I see it as like, Yo, that's cool,
and I would like to go. Did you see the
white party that Donald sterling through?
Speaker 5 (43:00):
That's a totally different one.
Speaker 3 (43:01):
I always was a white party, really white party.
Speaker 4 (43:05):
Let me ask Ryan Music because there are times where
you know.
Speaker 3 (43:08):
Music would look so good in that flowing white button
down which you wear pants or shorts.
Speaker 5 (43:14):
I'd probably go shorts. Oh, I could see Ryot in that.
So here's my thing.
Speaker 7 (43:18):
If we're if we're gonna go Pie in the Sky
and I did get an invite, sure i'd probably go,
but on a much lower level. I remember the first
time I did a Super Bowl remote and being there
for the week leading up to the super Bowl, and
when you walk into it as just like a random
producer and there's even just small time stars there, You're like,
(43:40):
I'm not going to talk to any of these people. Yeah,
you're just like stuck in the corner talking to the
other producers that you already know. So it's like if
I just out of the blue got an invite to
the White Party, I'm not going and hanging and starting
up a conversation with Tom Brady or Kim Kardashian. So
I'd probably be like, there's no point in going into fantasy. Man,
I'm doing shots with Kim kay.
Speaker 4 (44:01):
I got answerriting music because he works on the Herd
every day.
Speaker 6 (44:04):
On those moments where Colin does have like a Tom
Brady in studio, is it an awkward like should I
say HU to Tom or not?
Speaker 3 (44:12):
Like do you gout?
Speaker 4 (44:13):
No, it's the vibe when he has one of those
A listeners on.
Speaker 5 (44:15):
I'm staying doing my job.
Speaker 7 (44:18):
I'm not going I'm not interjecting myself into situations I
know I shouldn't be doing.
Speaker 3 (44:24):
I'm just gonna start wearing white outfits around fourth July
weekend next year and see if people get their manifestation.
I got you to think it. I mean, look, my
goals are bigger than that. But it's a cool invite. Rich,
It's a really cool invite. I don't care who you are,
where you are if you don't look at that and
there's a party of these, like, man, I kind of
wish I was there because it's the cool guys club
(44:44):
and there's beautiful women everywhere, and it's at this super
swanky beach front house of his. You're just hating. Honestly,
it's like, I think you're just man that you're not
that person. I'm at least willing to say, no, I
wish I was there. I wish I was inviting, and
I wish.
Speaker 6 (45:00):
Listen, I'll back you up. On all the elite parties
that I roll my eyes at, that is the one
that I'm like, ah, that would be a cool thing
to go to. By the way, next year, just wear
all white on the fourth of July, and if anyone says, hey, Comino,
where are you going, just say you're going to Ruben's party.
Speaker 4 (45:14):
Just don't tell me. Don't tell them it's Rubens Stuttard's party.
Speaker 3 (45:18):
No, it's Ruben Sierra's. Yeah, Michael, I bet, yeah. I'm
sure you guys have seen it. Your sports fans is
Fox Sports Radio, it's the Herd. I'm sure you saw
pictures over the holiday weekend of all these people. Look
at me. Look at me wearing white at the party.
Your thoughts? Would you want to go? Or not? All right?
Speaker 5 (45:40):
We got more Coveno and rich and for Colin on
the Herd.
Speaker 3 (45:44):
And remember we're gonna be playing Chipotle worker or w
NBA player giving away prizes.
Speaker 5 (45:48):
Stick around, It's Covino and rich.
Speaker 2 (45:50):
One more Herd. The Herd streams twenty four hours a day,
seven days a week within the iHeartRadio app, Search Herd
to listen live or on demand. Whenever you lie, Pauli
fools go ahead with Tony Fosco.
Speaker 9 (46:03):
Yeah, as everybody knows, we're the hosts of the award
winning Polly and Tony Fosco Show. Yeah, but instead of
us telling you how great we are is how Dan
Patrick described us when he came on our show.
Speaker 3 (46:12):
Quick, knowledgeable and funny, opinionated.
Speaker 4 (46:16):
What what are you doing? We were interrupting our promo.
Speaker 2 (46:18):
Yeah, you wasn't talking about you. You took those clips
totally of context.
Speaker 9 (46:23):
Oh yeah, well after this promo, I'm gonna take you
out and beat you.
Speaker 3 (46:27):
Let me put this into context.
Speaker 4 (46:29):
Shut up.
Speaker 9 (46:30):
Yeah, anyway, just listen to the Paully and Tony Fusco
Show on I Heart Radio. Apple Podcasts or wherever you
get your podcasts.
Speaker 3 (46:36):
Yea, all right, we're back on the Herd and we're
back in our old studio. I know you don't care,
but it feels nice, the old Fox Sports Radio studio.
Covino and Rich, the CNR show on FSR. In for
Colin on the Herd, and if you want to time
(47:00):
in and say what's up, hit us on social media
at Coveno and Rich. The most interactive, most inclusive show
on radio according to us at Covino and Rich at
Steve Cavino or call us eight one eight eight one
seven seven five zero nine. According to your mom, Yeah,
my mom, she won a swiggy yesterday. By eeeven you
guys are so nice to your listeners, thanks mom. So
(47:23):
congrats again to Eli for playing chapottle worker or w
NBA player. We should probably give him one anyway. Is
it too late, because yeah, I think Rich is the
big loser. I stick at this game. I know Dicky
Davis is in Texas for the holidays. When you come
into New York, aren't you going to New York and
(47:44):
then back to La Dude? The only bummer about living
in southern California and my wife's frambily from Texas. I'm
from New York. Is that all my vacation is spent
like road tripping and family stuff. And it's like visit
this cousin, this uncle, this mom and dad, and it's
it's a nightmare, but I love it. You know what, though,
at some point in life, you got to take a
stand and say, you know what, I'm taking a proper vacation.
(48:08):
If you want to see me, I'm not dragging my
kids around anymore, come visiting me wherever I'm at.
Speaker 5 (48:13):
How about that time to put your foot down.
Speaker 3 (48:15):
You don't think my wife and I have had that
conversation ten times in the last forty eight hours. Of course,
so if you're not piecing it together. Rich is making
his rounds visiting family in Texas and in New York
and then back to la which is where we live.
So we're from the East Coast. I'm from New Jersey.
Rich is from Long Island. Always a pleasure to be
here on the herd. Now there's a story about Zach Wilson.
(48:38):
We got to get to Zach Wilson, super handsome dude,
Denver Bronco's quarterback, former jet You know Zack Wilson. Well,
it goes back through his high school days. Apparently he
dated this girl named Abby Smoke Show Abby Gile or
(48:58):
Gile is his ex girlfriend. They dated from high school
to two thousand and two. Okay, follow me now. Zach
Wilson recently got engaged to his now fiance longtime girlfriend
Nicolette Delano. But guess who else got engaged just this weekend? Rich,
(49:21):
let me guess Zach Wilson's longtime ex girlfriend. Zach Wilson's
a long time ex girlfriend. So Zach Wilson announced his engagement.
Beautiful blonde modelesque Nicolette Delano.
Speaker 6 (49:35):
Right, dude, he's got a type. I could tell for
the X and the car girl, and it's my type.
So Zach Wilson, you may stink in the pocket, but
in the bedroom you must be slaying it because these
two tirls are beautiful.
Speaker 3 (49:47):
Maybe it's more his type because he's with them. So
Zach Wilson announces his engagement. He's happy, and then his
ex girlfriend announces her engagement. Now here's the kicker. She's
now engaged to his former college roommate Dax Milne, who's
(50:09):
a wide receiver for the Commanders. So Dax is a
specialist for the Commanders, a receiver return specialist. And again,
they used to be good buds in college roommates. So
it gets a little sticky because here's his old bud
(50:29):
with his ex girl. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (50:32):
I know for a fact, Covino and I have been
friends for twenty years. Yes, and I'm not a jealous
weirdo type. In fact, I'm probably one of the least
jealous people in a relationship. Hey, live your life, I
trust you, blah blah blah. But Covino and I it
would be very difficult for me to ever date or
have been with a woman that has been with Cavino.
(50:54):
When your best bud date someone, it's just so oddly
off limits for so many reasons.
Speaker 3 (50:59):
Well, you have to run it buying your bud, right,
That's just part of the etiquette involved here. You know,
there are a few chosen ones. We call them chosen
ones because rich and I have been friends for so long,
even to our single days, there were girls that we
have hooked up with, not at the same time, but
we've both hooked up with And it's I know, but
(51:22):
you do have to give the courtesy. It's like you
hit a three point and you want that courtesy. If
Rich is going to hook up at her and I
hooked up her in the past, you have to give
the courtesy like, hey, you don't care right, Like no,
So I imagine Rich just on like bro code alone.
I imagine that Dax being Zach's Dax and Zach how lame.
I imagine that Dax being Zach's old college roommate. He
(51:46):
did throw it by him at one point. You have
to assume, well, Zach Wilson's happy, He's got his beautiful fiance.
Speaker 5 (51:52):
Now what does he care?
Speaker 3 (51:54):
So, to simplify it, Zach Wilson's college roommate got engaged
to his old ex girlfriend. That's really it. That's the story.
A little bit of a drama there, drama showing people
love drama. Now, the question is that this twofold, yeah,
can you get with someone or do you feel comfortable
dating someone that used to date one of your friends,
(52:15):
one of your family members. I know people that are like, yeah,
you know, my wife used to date my brother, and
I'm like, what.
Speaker 4 (52:24):
To me?
Speaker 3 (52:24):
The roommate thing is weird for Zach Wilson Cavino solely
because at one point in college. When Zach Wilson was
dating this girl, he probably told his roommate, y'all, can
you leave the room because we're gonna get it on,
or maybe even when he was in the room. Yeah,
and that happens in college, believe it or not, it
definitely happens. So he may have heard some action going
(52:48):
down with the woman he's now with. And how do
you think that Dax and Zach root for each other? Right,
there's got to be a weird competitiveness too, because you
know who's with the better football player, who's with the
you know who's with the guy with the better career.
It's all these little things and they're all stupid in
(53:09):
juvenile but it's a bit of a drama show. Like
I said, I think here's what you got to think about, Cove.
You got to think about how the younger generation is
so more much more open with these type of things
than our generation or our parents or grandparents like it.
They're so willy nilly about who they hook up with,
(53:32):
who they've been with that I bet you they don't
even care. I bet you they all hang out in
high five. It's a different generation, so I think they
don't care. Perhaps you're right, but most people don't like
to know that their buddy got with their woman, and
vice versa. Like, we work with the guy and I'm
(53:52):
not gonna call him out, but we work with a
guy who's happily married, but he also got with his
wife's sister, and he does talk about that all the time.
So behind closed doors, don't think for a second Zach
Wilson's not saying to all his buddies, Yeah, you see
Dax's girl.
Speaker 5 (54:11):
Yeah, I used to that's my ex girlfriend. I used
to get with her.
Speaker 3 (54:14):
She was mine. It's always that you have that one
up on that, you know what I mean, It's still
an awkward thing going on because you always have that look.
I dated girls that hooked up with Rich. I never
wanted to take them as serious as maybe I could
have or should have, because I knew Rich would always
have that in his back pocket and he would tell
(54:35):
our mutual friends.
Speaker 5 (54:36):
Yeah, Covino's Girlfriendhi, go it with her?
Speaker 3 (54:38):
Oh I want no, no, no, But I never wanted
to give you ever the chance or satisfaction to try
to do that. So any girl that I may have
hooked up with that maybe you previously hooked up with
years before or whatever. I would have never put myself
in position for you to have that weak ass bragging
right on me, you know.
Speaker 5 (54:58):
And that's what Zach has on Dax.
Speaker 3 (55:01):
In this story.
Speaker 6 (55:02):
Well, there there's a couple layers here. It's not all
about hooking up. But let me explain. And by the way,
those couple random as you call them, chosen ones in
our single days that let's say, you and I both
have had moments.
Speaker 5 (55:13):
But by the way, that that's a joke, but it's not.
Speaker 3 (55:16):
There's been like maybe three girls ever that Rich and
I both hooked up with coincidentally in our single days.
Speaker 6 (55:23):
I mean, keep in mind, we're in our forties now,
you know, I've been since our twenties, so it's gonna happen.
Speaker 5 (55:28):
But here's question.
Speaker 3 (55:30):
Yeah, when you're rolling in similar circles.
Speaker 5 (55:32):
And yeah, it's just odd.
Speaker 6 (55:35):
The thing is spot you know, you talk about small towns,
this conversation doesn't apply because in small towns, if you
don't date who your friend dated, you're not going to
date anyone.
Speaker 3 (55:44):
There might be twenty kids in the school. No, for sure,
it happens the old village bicycle. Yeah, yeah, well, well
you know what you know what they're calling By the way,
speaking of village bicycles, you know what they're calling Abby
who dated again Zach and is now engaged to his
old college roommate a Trollope, no, they're calling him a homiehopper.
Oh is she a homiehopper? It is Rude's rude, but
(56:07):
but but I'm giving you the story. Like, if you
open up any story about Zach Wilson on any platform today,
that's the story.
Speaker 6 (56:16):
I think it's rude because guys don't get called that.
Women get called that. So I will get the women's
back on this. But you know, there's three layers here.
Speaker 5 (56:25):
But that's part of the story. Like, Hey, isn't this wrong.
Let's here for rich champion for feminism.
Speaker 3 (56:29):
Yeah, yeah, now you're number one, goes champions of feminism
in an attempt to make me look terrible for telling
the story. Isn't he great? You ever read You're the
greatest guy? Man? Wow, it took you twenty years to
acknowledge that greatest guy. Layer one.
Speaker 6 (56:48):
If one of those random girls that you and I
have both had a moment with, what if hurt now
husband or boyfriend gets this is a long time ago.
What if that guy came home and he goes, hey, babe,
I found my new favorite podcast radio show, Covino and Rich.
Speaker 3 (57:01):
Does she tell them?
Speaker 5 (57:03):
Was she gonna tell I hooked up with both of them?
Speaker 4 (57:05):
I'm just asking.
Speaker 3 (57:05):
I mean, no, no, no, no, you don't owe anybody
that information of your past. I'm a firm believer on that.
Is it gonna do any good in your current situation?
I understand you never want to be the last to
know or feel like you're the odd man out. But
if it's not gonna help your current situation and there's
nothing going on that's suspect, then there's no need to
(57:28):
rub it in anybody's face. Well take it away from
me and you The stories about Zach Wilson, his former roommate,
his fiance, her fiance, there's two layers. Is it uncomfortable?
Speaker 6 (57:39):
And would you be able to date someone that used
to be in a relationship with a friend? And layer
two of this could be no. Layer two is would
you be able to seriously date someone if one of
their exes is a bit intimidating? Because I remember you
and I met someone once and the guy said, yo,
I don't know if I could date her her ex
(58:01):
she used to hook up with Shaquille O'Neill, do you remember, Yeah,
intimidating in many different ways. Yes, imagine right, hard to
live up to the massive personality of a Sheil O'Neill.
Speaker 3 (58:15):
Yeah, you know, I get what you're saying. Look, Rich,
I think it's okay to give it a go with
someone if it's out of great intentions, if it's true love.
For example, my brother true story, recently hooked up with
his buddy's X and it was ancient history. But his
(58:39):
buddy found out and that friendship's over.
Speaker 5 (58:42):
Yeah, you know what I mean.
Speaker 3 (58:43):
So that's what I mean. It's like, there's a lot
of drama. It's unnecessary. Did you really have to go there?
Did you really have to do it? If it's in
the name of love, then I think it's fair.
Speaker 2 (58:54):
I do.
Speaker 3 (58:54):
I think it's fair, and I do wish we all
wish Abby and Dak's a happy relationship together. But again,
Dax's and Zach Wilson wear roommates at one point. That's
Zach Wilson's ex. Danny g has a story too, Rich.
Let me flip the script for a second a little bit.
So we're talking about could you date someone that was
once with a friend of yours.
Speaker 5 (59:16):
I would try not to, but yeah, you can add.
Speaker 3 (59:18):
The layer of work.
Speaker 6 (59:20):
Do you feel comfortable taking a job where you're replacing
someone that got fired that you know in the world
of sports, in the world of broadcasting, sales, anything like Yo,
let's say your best buddy John has a gig, he
gets fired and like, hey, Cavino, you can now have
John's gig.
Speaker 3 (59:36):
Is that in bad taste or is it? Like, Yo, man,
I gotta do what I gotta do. You know that
happens in sports all the time, that happens in life. Yeah,
you got a job to do. I'd say you'd tell it,
you run it by your buddy, but hey, man, this
is what I gotta do. I don't think that's anything personal, right,
You're just doing your job at that point. But it
(59:58):
is awkward.
Speaker 6 (59:59):
Zach Wellson and I anticipate a big year from him,
And I say that because it can't get worse. Now
He's happily engaged and Danny g aren't. The reports coming
back that Zach Wilson is looking super sharp in OTAs
and everything, like, he's looking like a different man.
Speaker 3 (01:00:14):
Same reports we heard last offseason. Yeah, I guess you're right,
but Rich, you know, you did bring up the exactly, Danny.
You brought up the point that, for all we know,
and this is all sort of gossipy, scandalous speculation all
over on social media and the Internet today, but for
all we know, everybody's hunky dory. Everybody's happy.
Speaker 5 (01:00:34):
They all get along. It's ancient history and they're all
happy for each other. That's probably the truth.
Speaker 3 (01:00:39):
There's a there's a very famous story where George Harrison
was dating Patty Boyd, who was quite the looker I
guess back in the day, and Eric Clapton had the
hots for his buddy George's girlfriend. You know the story, right,
(01:01:00):
So Eric Clapton he's like, yeah, you know, George is
a great guitar player, but I'm better and I want
his girlfriend. He wrote Layla for Patty Boyd and basically
stole her from George Harrison, and they were friends. They
were like guitar compadres. And as it turns out, they
(01:01:24):
all got along and George and Eric Clapton's friendship remained,
and Patty Boyd was that one in the middle. And
here's the thing, though everybody looks at Eric Clapton, like, yo, man,
that's kind of messed up writing Layla stealing his girl
and all that.
Speaker 5 (01:01:38):
Sort of thing.
Speaker 3 (01:01:39):
But you think George Harrison was lacking in the women department,
I highly doubt it. He was a beatle, right, And
what about accountability from Patty? She's the one that went
with both of them. I got a sports store to
tie it end. And we're talking about Zach Wilson and
his ex roommate now with his ex girlfriend. You're a
(01:02:03):
New York Yankees fan, why don't we talk about Fritz Peterson.
Fritz Peterson and Mike Kekech two former Yankees that swapped wives,
not like for one night, like they fell in love
with each other's wives and then they married the other women.
Isn't they're a weird fun fact where they even swapped
the dogs or something? Right there is right, Like, they
(01:02:25):
swapped lives for real and it worked. That's why you
really can't judge. Everybody does their own weird thing and
if it works for them, fine, great, grand wonderful. But
it is crazy to hear they swapped out lives, wives,
dogs and everything else. So based on that, again, Rich
posed a question, can you date your homies girl and
(01:02:47):
vice versa, or do you always feel like your homie
has one on you?
Speaker 5 (01:02:52):
And Danny G I know you have a story.
Speaker 6 (01:02:54):
I mean that could be immature thinking or it could
just be like I said, I think younger kids now
so casual with those type of things that.
Speaker 3 (01:03:02):
Be like, yeah, dude, I got with her. Yeah no,
cap uh you know toilet Riz, they'd say some nonsense
that would and be like okay with it.
Speaker 8 (01:03:10):
Yeah, and definitely were We think long and hard about
things like that, because, like Covino said, you in what
you picture in your mind. I'll give you an example here.
Now all roads led to my better half, So I'm
happy with the way it worked out. The year was
two thousand.
Speaker 3 (01:03:26):
The year was two thousand thousand.
Speaker 8 (01:03:29):
Friend two K, my friend Tyrone and Oxnard and earlier
you did your shiver voice.
Speaker 3 (01:03:35):
Yeah. On the mean streets of Oxnard, California.
Speaker 8 (01:03:39):
Boxhard famous for boxing and rappers and beats. He had
dated a girl that was just outside our circle of friends.
They were never serious. She alluded to the fact that
they never fully hooked up. I don't know if she
was telling me the truth or not right, but really
cool girl, I just couldn't get it out of my head.
Though we went on a few dates in the movie office,
(01:03:59):
space kept popping up in my mind.
Speaker 3 (01:04:01):
Lumberg, yeah, oh yeah, yeah.
Speaker 8 (01:04:04):
And I think that's one of the biggest hurdles to
get over, is you, at least, if you're a normal person,
you picturing them with your friend.
Speaker 5 (01:04:11):
You're right about that.
Speaker 3 (01:04:12):
Everybody has a past, right, So any girl you're with,
she was with somebody else and that's fine, and that's
just life, and who cares you mature and you don't
dwell on that. You're just happy you're with her now.
Chris Rock has a whole bit on it. You're just
happy you're with her now. But when it's someone that
close to you, it is different because you're gonna have
(01:04:33):
the Lumberg moment when you're picturing that dude and you're
thinking him that guy, ah, and it's gonna bother you.
So I really think you only go there rich if
you if it's just one of these people that you've
longed for for an eternity, like it's destiny.
Speaker 6 (01:04:53):
I have to like, out of everyone, everyone has exes.
You just hope they're not like your boy.
Speaker 3 (01:05:00):
Oh exactly, yeah, because again your boy's always gonna have that. Well, hey,
I'm happy for you guys, I remember when I was there.
That's weak, man. You don't want to ever hear that
from your boy. You don't want to ever think that
he's thinking that. Hopefully your boy would never say something
stupid like that, but you never want to think that
your boy is thinking that has something on you, has
(01:05:22):
been there before, or any of that stuff. And what
if it's one you're not communicating with anymore, Like what
if it was like, oh, she hooked up with college buddy,
but you haven't talked to your college buddy in the decade.
I think that doesn't matter. Then it doesn't matter as
much as it matters how close you were to that person.
But you brought up a really crazy situation. You painted
(01:05:44):
a really detailed picture. Think of your college days. You
have your extended bunk bed whatever it was, that extended
twin bed you had with your stupid posters up, and
you'd probably position your desks and make some sort of
divide her in the room. That was the privacy, Yeah,
the privacy you had. But your roommate would bring somebody
(01:06:08):
back and you'd hear a little you'd hear a little
something every once in a while, so you studio audience, yea, yeah,
you'd hear applause, Yeah, yeah. And you're wondering what your
roommates listening to that Live uh live, Nirvana and plugged
and and and she must have been watching a horror
(01:06:28):
movie because she was screaming a little bit. Yeah, you're like,
I wonder what's going on? I wonder what's going on
the other side of this privacy desk? Are they praying
that's weird? Why are they saying? God, I don't know
what's going on. I don't know, but you have to
imagine when you put yourself in those situations. She must
have dropped something under the bench you just got down. Anyway,
hold on, have we all buy by raise of hands?
Speaker 5 (01:06:50):
Have we all been there?
Speaker 3 (01:06:51):
Yes? I've been there, been there. You're hearing things, and
you're pretending to sleep, right, pretending to sleep, and you're
hearing everything. You mean to tell me that Zach Wilson
when he was with Abby, You mean to tell me
that Dax didn't hear any action back in the college days.
(01:07:13):
I find it hard to believe. So I'm led to
believe based on everything we just figured out together Dax
Milne of the Commanders, and to wish him the best.
Speaker 5 (01:07:22):
He's a handsome guy. I wish him a great career.
He went all in because he.
Speaker 3 (01:07:27):
Forever longed for Abby and truly, truly destined and loved
her in every way possible, you know. So it's a
great story of love. I think it is a great
story of love because you have to look at it,
you have to overlook a lot. I think it's generational.
We always talk about how the younger generation is so cavalier.
(01:07:48):
They're so cavalier. They're like Donovan Mitchell. There's so cavalier
about everything. Social relief, Yeah, socially related.
Speaker 5 (01:07:55):
That's true.
Speaker 3 (01:07:56):
Jelly still exists, man, you still have these human qualities,
especially at a young age. You know.
Speaker 6 (01:08:03):
So, and you know what the common denominate name. You know,
they're all very good looking, and they're all very successful.
So that solves everything that gives us the liberty to
talk about it. They're all doing fantastic and they all
look tremendous, So who cares. Yeah, they're both, by the way,
two beautiful women. Good for Zach Wilson, good for both
of them, good for all of them.
