Speaker 1 (00:00):
Yo, it's Danny g executive producer of Covino and Rich.
Thank you for being down with us.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
There's never been a radio show more to patica with
me ever than you guys.
Speaker 1 (00:12):
It was another fun week on the show. Enjoy some
of the greatest moments from the past few days.
Speaker 3 (00:20):
Relying from the Fox Sports Radio studio show, Hail Tani
did something no one's ever seen in forty six years,
giving up a home run in the first inning and
then doing this in the first inning the two to
one and old Tommy.
Speaker 4 (00:32):
Bless It tosses a bat, that ball is wak on
to the batter side Unicorns signing in Los Angeles.
Speaker 5 (00:43):
Two strikeouts in the top of the first and.
Speaker 4 (00:46):
They go ahead blast in the bottom.
Speaker 5 (00:48):
Of the first, two one. Dodgers shut of here.
Speaker 3 (00:51):
Hey, they snapped their skid with a five to two
win over the Twins. That's courtesy of AM five to
seventy out here in La Dodgers Audio Network, and that
is the Tirac player of the day. That is pretty
remarkable to give up a home run and hit a
home run in the same inning. That's you know, when
they said it happened forty six years ago, I'm guessing
that was a dude that hit a home run and
he was like a position player that pitched, because who
(01:12):
else would.
Speaker 1 (01:13):
It be like a Fernando Valance, like one of those
pitchers that Yeah, very rare, very rare.
Speaker 3 (01:20):
Maybe there were there were a couple of guys that
hit one or two home runs here there. But it's
been forty six years. Broadcasting live from the Fox Sports
Radio studios. The numbers eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox.
And this hour we're gonna play Showtime homes Trivia, giving
away some prizes here on the show while we have them,
and we got to talk Derek Jeter.
Speaker 5 (01:40):
It is a theme.
Speaker 3 (01:42):
The theme is Ozzy Osborne, of course, rest in peace,
but also unhappy athlete. Yeah, what's everyone so unhappy? Is
Derek Jeter unhappy? Or is he pulling a business move?
A lot of business and sports going on on today's show.
Speaker 5 (01:55):
I look at it this way.
Speaker 3 (01:57):
There are times where someone is not available to accept
their Academy award or their Grammy.
Speaker 5 (02:02):
Yeah, what are they doing? My first thought? All is
he doing?
Speaker 3 (02:05):
As pee Wee Herman said when Francis Buxton was busy, Remember,
I'm here to see Francis. Francis is busy, busy doing what?
Francis is taking his bath? Remember that, Really, where are
they hosing him down?
Speaker 5 (02:21):
Busy doing? What?
Speaker 3 (02:23):
Where are they hosing down Jeter? Because you can't be
that busy? To me, I look at like again accepting
a Grammy an Academy award. I'm here on their behalf.
What are they doing that's more important than this? What
could Derek Jita number two? What could he be doing?
We'll be careful, remember he works for Fox Sports. He
might be listening. Could he be doing on this day
(02:47):
that's more important than going to the twenty fifth anniversary
of the two thousand World Series champions the first Old
Timers Day. Put it this way, whatever he's doing, they
would have made an exception. If it was a major
broadcast that he's a part of. They would have been like,
all right, we understand, you gotta go there to celebrate
the anniversary Yankees Old Timer's Day. It's the twenty fifth
(03:09):
anniversary of the two thousand World Series Championship Yankees when
they beat Rich's Mets, and he was the captain of
that team. He's the Yankees captain. He's still the captain
Aaron Judge is the current captain, but Derek Jeter is
the captain and he's not going. And it makes me
think of two things. Maybe his daughter has a dance recitle.
(03:30):
My only thought is what if one of his kids
has like something ridiculous, like one of his kids has
a gymnastics meet, and you know what, He's like, I'm
a dad, now this is my priority. It was a
Derek Jeter saying I want no part of where this
organization's going right now. These are not my Yankees or
just a business move. My thought is this, And I
(03:51):
gotta give Kevin Clancy because that was his side.
Speaker 5 (03:53):
He's a Red Sox fan, so I could see.
Speaker 3 (03:55):
I mean, he's a Yankees' hater, so I could see
where he's coming from.
Speaker 5 (04:00):
There.
Speaker 3 (04:01):
It is like, I don't want any part of this
crap Yankees team right now. Anthony Volpi is not something
I stand for. He's getting buried in social media. But
my question based on this in sinuate that Derek Jeter
thinks he's too cool for the Pinstripes of twenty twenty five,
like get out of here?
Speaker 5 (04:16):
Would he? I mean, I hate the Yankees.
Speaker 3 (04:18):
It's a I think it's a solid or common thought
that people could be like, well, these are not my Yankees.
Why would I why would I go back to that?
Is this a misstep or a business move? Like, Hey,
I'm not defined by my past. I'm the I want
to be. Derek Jeter, the TV producer, Derek Jeter, the
(04:39):
Turn two Foundation president, Derek Jeter, the broadcaster for Fox Sports.
Speaker 5 (04:45):
Not the old timer.
Speaker 3 (04:46):
Not the old timer you know who's taken weak ass
swings and hacks and being honored for something I did
twenty five years ago. I happen to feel like I
understand that he's looking forward. That's that's my I don't
know any fact, but knowing him and knowing how he
is and knowing how.
Speaker 5 (05:05):
He always viewed baseball, that's ridiculous.
Speaker 3 (05:07):
I think he's like focused on what's at hand now
and he's trying to be the best at that, and
he's not trying to look in the past. He's proud
of what he did, but been there, done that, I'm
moving forward. Doesn't want to be defined by it. So
I understand what I what I think he's doing here.
But I do feel as a fan that it's a
major misstep to not be there with your compadres, your brothers,
(05:29):
the guys you won and fought with the Core four,
a twenty team that beat the Mets in a Subway series.
I think as a fan that's a misstep because we
want to see him, so all your personal things aside, Yo,
we're fans of you, dude.
Speaker 5 (05:43):
You got to show up that team.
Speaker 3 (05:45):
This is like when they talk about and I'm gonna
give you the corniest analogy, this is when they talk
about like an in Sync reunion and they're like, yeah,
but we're still trying to get Timberlake to sign on,
because without Timberlake is.
Speaker 5 (05:57):
Really an in Sync reunion.
Speaker 3 (05:58):
You gotta Joe Now you're saying the Bam, Tino and
and all these other lands Bass and Joey. You're saying
a rod or Lance Pass and Joey Fatone. Yes, I
don't think so, Bro. There's a lot of stars on
that to to not tell me MONTI, would you agree
that Derek Jeter is the justin Timberland. There's a lot
(06:18):
he is the justin Timberlake, but there's a lot of
stars that played on that team. Isn't that what everyone
criticizes Derek Jeter for playing alongside a lot of a
lot of big stars.
Speaker 5 (06:27):
I've found a couple of reports. Okay, he's missing it
for his daughter's birthday. Oh man, I'm sorry.
Speaker 1 (06:35):
You could celebrate that, according according to two I found
two that are saying this, he's decided to stay home
to celebrate his daughter, Bella Rain's eighth birthday.
Speaker 5 (06:45):
My daughter is eight.
Speaker 3 (06:49):
We could have it another day. Did he already hire
the magician?
Speaker 5 (06:54):
He is going to lose the down payment on the
on the the the.
Speaker 3 (07:00):
Captain Crossbones could come another day and perform a magic
tricks like as a fan, like you got a responsibility
as a captain of that World series team. Do you
have a responsibility to your family? Absolutely? And Rich and
I are the first people to say put your family first.
They're only little once, because why when they're that little,
you could celebrate their birthday anytime, dude. Fam my friends
(07:21):
planned like a reunion vacation on my daughter's birthday. A
few years back. We went on the vacation and we
had a birthday party in cake like the next day
or something like. I do understand, but again I don't
have to agree. I have a friend to the other side.
I have a friend, Manci you know her, our friend Shannon,
you party with her at my house. One of our
(07:42):
best pals. Our friend Shannon's one of those type of
people that if her birthday falls on a Tuesday, she's
the one that's that's when we celebrate, like dinner. It's like, yeah,
why don't we why don't we go Uh, why don't
we go out this weekend? Yeah, but my birthday's Tuesday.
I'm like, yeah, I know, your birthday's Tuesday. But Friday
night I'll get a babysitter and my wife and I
(08:03):
will join you. Yeah, but my birthday's Tuesday. Derek Jeter,
I know it to be. He's in the doghouse for
some reason. And you know, this is another thing where
Derek Jeeter puts his career before his family.
Speaker 5 (08:16):
So he's like, I can't.
Speaker 3 (08:17):
Maybe he's like, maybe he learned from Tom Brady. Hey,
maybe he learned from Tom Brady. Not, you know, not
the prepay of scoring like extra bonus points that we
don't know about. Like, everybody has their reasons, everybody has
their things. I get it, and like I said, I understand,
I just don't agree.
Speaker 6 (08:32):
Bro.
Speaker 5 (08:33):
I put my kids to be there.
Speaker 3 (08:34):
I put my kids before anything. I have never missed
a school player performance or any of these things.
Speaker 5 (08:42):
I have.
Speaker 3 (08:43):
I've done the show from home on those days if
I needed to, because I know being a parent is
the most important thing you could to be. There is
more important than anything. Yeah, but he's a retired athlete.
He has plenty of time. Exactly, so this rare occasion
of we're celebrating essentially you five years ago. You are
the two thown the Yankees, the captain, the guy that
hit a solo home run, and I believe Game three
(09:05):
is the only run of the game most he loved
the Yankees of all time. So again, reschedule the ELSA
face paintings. I mean, I'm a biased fan. Guys, again,
I'm a Yankee fan. I'm a Derek Jeter lover and supporter,
Like I love this.
Speaker 5 (09:17):
Oh we know.
Speaker 3 (09:17):
So I've turned it over to the Fox Sports Radio
Nation and your thoughts eight seven, seven ninety nine one Fox.
I narrowed down to this is the captain misstepping year,
something he rarely did in his career.
Speaker 5 (09:31):
I think he is. That's what makes it such a
story and so odd. We rarely saw.
Speaker 3 (09:35):
Derek Jeter misstep ever in his career, and I think
he is why now now or is this a clear
business decision of Hey man, I don't I don't do
that anymore.
Speaker 5 (09:45):
I don't live in the past.
Speaker 3 (09:46):
I live in the future, and I don't want to
be associated with the hal Steinbrenner Yankees. I'm a George
Steinbrener Yankee, and I moved past that because I'm looking forward.
These other guys, they live in the past. I'm Derek Jeter.
I live in the future. I move forward. A common
conversation Cavino and I have had over the years, not
only here Fox in general, is I'm a guy that
(10:07):
likes to still actively play sports.
Speaker 5 (10:09):
Cavino likes to say I left that, I put it
behind me.
Speaker 3 (10:13):
I left that in the past, like Cavino played high
school in college baseball, and then it's like that's it.
I still play softball, you know. I mean, they won't
want to go to a high school reunion because I'm passed.
But my point is I still enjoy swinging a bat
throwing a ball. Jeter might think, Hey, listen, man, my
last at bat at Yankee Stadium was a walk off single.
(10:36):
I left as magical as I possibly could have.
Speaker 5 (10:39):
I don't even want to swing a bat in that
stadium again. Yeah, but he doesn't have to go there.
He could just go.
Speaker 3 (10:43):
You go there, and you honor the fans and the team.
You don't have to play, And I don't think. I
don't know if they are suiting up and playing. Not
everybody does even when.
Speaker 5 (10:52):
They do that.
Speaker 3 (10:52):
But when they do that, Derek Jeter is still in shape.
You could tell five broadcast when he's sitting there with
a rod and big poppy. You know that Derek Jeter
could clearly still hit a home run out of Yankee Stadium.
I mean, no, no, I don't blame he never wanting to
take a swing again because he wants. He's such a
prideful guy. He wants to be remembered as the guy that,
(11:14):
like you said, Rich left his last game with a
walk off single. Everything was storybook, everything was grand. I
wouldn't want to leave any other image. You want to
be like a fat old guy around in the bases
at how you want to be remembered.
Speaker 5 (11:25):
No, he's Derek Jeter. He wants to be remembered on
a high regard.
Speaker 3 (11:29):
I get all that, but he should still be there
and prioritize his teammates in what they accomplished twenty five
years ago for the team and for the fans, regardless
of whatever else is going on, unless it's.
Speaker 5 (11:40):
Like a death.
Speaker 3 (11:41):
You saw the buzz when they had like Fernando Knight
out here in LA at the Dodgers game. You saw
how when they retired David Wright's number at City Field
over the weekend. These generational legendary players mean so much
to the fan base, so much that if Derek Jeter
went to Yankee Stadium and they broke out the old
cassete Yes, I said cassette tape of Bob Sheppard saying,
(12:04):
now batting number two, Derek Jutah number two, the place.
Speaker 5 (12:09):
Would go bananas. Is the guy that has to be
Jeter is what would.
Speaker 3 (12:12):
Cause some people to say, y'all spend five hundred for
a ticket. Him not going is a major fail. I
don't care how you slice it or dice. In the
career of no missteps, this might be the first.
Speaker 5 (12:23):
Trust me.
Speaker 3 (12:23):
When this story's about paternity leaving players dipping away for
their kids, I get it. I got two kids that
I prioritize, so I get it. But you could reschedule
your kid's eighth birthday party, Bruno and Brooklyn, Let's start
with you.
Speaker 5 (12:37):
Is Jeter misstepping or do you get it? What's up? Man?
Speaker 6 (12:41):
Now? I don't get it. Man, as a lifelong Yankees fan,
he's He's not only not going, and he was not
just a captain. He was the quick essential nucleus to
that team, Number one, number two. Is there a better
better player on that team? Someone could argue, Judge in
the last twenty five years. I don't believe. So this
was one of the biggest players, forget about the Yankees
(13:01):
of all time in the sport. He should be there.
I don't care what his excuses. He's retired, he can
move things around, he's not driving a truck for a living.
He could be there.
Speaker 3 (13:11):
Yeah, he has that luxury. Agreed, Man, I hate to
say it. I'm his biggest fan. I agree with you.
Speaker 5 (13:16):
I do. We've been doing our show for years.
Speaker 3 (13:21):
But for the Fox Sports Radio audience, they might not
know when Covino had a dress up as a mascot
at a clothing store. Jesus, you gotta make me tell
this story out of nowhere, one of my favorite.
Speaker 5 (13:31):
Can we be back on a Wednesday? Yeah? All right?
So the answer is I'm the biggest loser.
Speaker 3 (13:37):
But again, I was fifteen, so I was like, no,
I was probably like seventeen years old, and I was
working at a clothes store called the Garage. It's not
the one you see at the mall now, but it
was a mall store back in the late nineteen hundreds
like Chess King, the Garage, Merry Go Round Express.
Speaker 5 (13:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (13:54):
So I worked at the Garage and I sold Levi's
and men's clothing and Boss Hugo, bosson that kind of stuff,
Big Johnson t shirts, Big Johnson, if you qualified, I
still have some. So so I'm there and it was
(14:14):
Thanksgiving and I'm a young kid and the bus is like, yeah,
you got to put this on.
Speaker 5 (14:18):
I'm like, what I keep in mind? Dude, you know
that was the coolest kid going.
Speaker 6 (14:21):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (14:22):
Really, if you think Cavino's arrogant, now, think of seventeen
year old Jersey Guido.
Speaker 5 (14:26):
I've been I've been humbled, trust that, you know.
Speaker 3 (14:29):
All state high school star thinks he's awesome telling Caveno
to put on the turkey cush.
Speaker 7 (14:34):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (14:35):
I mean I thought I was the man. Hairline and
jawline was intact. I'm like you want me to wear this?
And it was a turkey outfit with the stripe stockings,
the turkey feet, the whole deal, right, And I'm like,
this is embarrassing.
Speaker 5 (14:51):
And this store wasn't in a mall.
Speaker 3 (14:53):
It was on the actual highway Route twenty two in
New Jersey, like a major, major highway in my hometown.
Speaker 5 (14:59):
And I had to get out on the highway.
Speaker 3 (15:01):
And hold up like the Thanksgiving Day sale sign, like
for the whole day in a turkey costume. It just
so happened to make it a better story. This is
the true story. It just so happened. That was the
day my girlfriend and all her hot friends came to visit,
Like where's see. She brought me cookies and all her
hot friends were there, the cheerleaders and everything. And he
walk up to the store and I see, dude, I
(15:23):
see this happening.
Speaker 5 (15:24):
I'm like, oh, no, right, and they're there and they're like,
where's Steve?
Speaker 3 (15:27):
And I see the boss pointing at me like outside
in the parking lot.
Speaker 5 (15:32):
They all came out.
Speaker 3 (15:34):
I had to take that stupid turkey head off of
my you know, and that stupid.
Speaker 5 (15:38):
Helmet off my head.
Speaker 3 (15:40):
Hey, shame and embarrassment, and they were just sitting there
looking at me, and I felt like the biggest tool bag.
But then again, I didn't fall into a lake, so
I guess I'm not that bad. Well as far as falls.
I want to take it to sports for a second, Danny,
I knew you were saying there was a dude as
I'm watching some of the Royals Cubs highlights in the background.
By the way, most home runs by a cub through
(16:03):
one hundred games, by the way, as a rookie twenty seven. Now,
so as a young player, I mean before the age
of twenty three.
Speaker 1 (16:09):
Yeah, we're starting to see some homers light up mlb
Otani just hit his for his fifth straight game.
Speaker 5 (16:16):
A homer. Yeah, insane. Someone at the Cubbies.
Speaker 1 (16:19):
Yeah, just happened Monday night in the outfield, right, the
Cub's been tumbled.
Speaker 5 (16:24):
Into the basket and left field, you know, in between
the wall and the ivy there's that like netting basket.
Some it's like a fan basket. Dude. That was so embarrassing,
a big fat fish. Imagine if it was barbed wire.
Oh so funny.
Speaker 3 (16:37):
I think everybody saw that clip of this giant slug
of a man so so desperate for a ball he
falls into the netting.
Speaker 5 (16:47):
It was so funny.
Speaker 3 (16:48):
You you happen to be at the Yankees game, Do
you guys remember that highlight from maybe ten twenty years
ago where the dude falls on the netting above home plate.
Speaker 6 (16:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (16:56):
I was there at that game and they had to
pause the game the dude. We're sitting there, me and
my buddy Sean, and we see this guy fall like,
oh my god, he fell onto.
Speaker 5 (17:06):
The netting over home plate and had a crawl back up.
Speaker 1 (17:09):
And would you have traded places with him? It had
you not had to wear the turkey outfit.
Speaker 3 (17:14):
And no, that was scary and the whole game stop
to watch this guy. I was at a game once.
This had to be late eighties, early nineties. I was
at a game once. You jumped and you caught that
extra point? No, no, no, Mea likes to tell people
that was my dad. Remember the guy that jumped through
the uprights and caught the football. That's one of the
greatest highlights ever spot. I know you remember this came
(17:35):
you know you probably did too.
Speaker 5 (17:36):
Late eighties. I was at a game once. Oh when
the guy got maulled by a Tiger on the field. No,
I was.
Speaker 3 (17:41):
I saw a fat woman follow the upper deck onto
Reggie Jackson.
Speaker 5 (17:45):
Oh I saw that. Oh you were there at that game.
Speaker 1 (17:48):
I saw that. There, I've seen there. Yeah, please say
big and beautiful.
Speaker 5 (17:53):
Oh I'm sorry?
Speaker 6 (17:53):
Was that? No?
Speaker 5 (17:54):
That was naked? Gun? My bad? Well, hey, it's coming back.
It's really booted. I know.
Speaker 3 (17:58):
So are we to fucking greatest falls or most embarrassing
moments are a little above. I mean the brown The
Browns did both today. They unveiled these helmets, you know,
cool for them. I like that they're taking chances. They're
always trying to rebrand and do something and get that
fan base excited. It's a tough division. You got the Ravens,
you got you're not a big fan of Brownie the Elf.
(18:20):
You got Joe Burrow and the Bengals who are going to,
you know, come on strong this year. And of course
in that same division you got Aaron Rodgers now trying
to make some noise with the Steelers. So the Browns
in my mind are like the odd man out because
they have like a five person.
Speaker 5 (18:34):
Deep quarterback room.
Speaker 3 (18:35):
We don't know what the future of Deshaun Watson is
U Shadoor Sanders, Like, there's so many question marks in
Cleveland that I feel like, you know, you're trying to
hype up the crowd. This is a bad omen. There's
a bad omen to that uniform. You know, the dumb
ass falls into the water. It's not a good sign
of things to come, you know. I had a really
bad As you get older, and by no means am
(18:56):
I old, But as you get older you're grown. Yeah,
I'm grown, these falls become a little scarier. They could
set you back a little bit. The other day, it
was about I'd say it was about three months ago.
Maybe I was at a park walking the dog. I
wasn't doing yo yo tricks like you, Sam. I was
actually walking my dog walking. I'm not a dunkin champion
(19:16):
like Sam. I was walking my dog, the dog THEO,
and I was on my phone at the same time.
Big mistake. So I think I got it. He's a
little dog and he just jets toward a group of
squirrels and birds whatever was going on there. But he
jets like full force, and I thought I had like
(19:38):
enough slack. But however fast he was running. He pulled
it right out of my fingers and he was running
toward the street, a busy street here in Los Angeles,
and I saw his little doggie life flash before my eyes, like,
oh my god, I lost him on the leash. Well
and girlfriend would have done to you? Oh yeah, I
saw all of this happen and play out in the
(19:59):
matter you split, said sprint, dude. I mos like a cartoon,
you know, in a cartoon where your legs move but
you don't go anywhere. I dreamed that and I fell,
and I fell so hard. But I tripped over like
the root of a tree or something. Either that or
it's like my feet really were like cinderblocks in the
moment I fell so hard on my knees. Man, I
was in pain for like a good week after that,
(20:21):
but that was recently, and it was out of pure
panic because my body wouldn't move as fast as I
I wanted to in that moment, as fast as my
mind set I had to to save the dog's life.
And embarrassing enough, there was a woman there looking at
me like, are you okay?
Speaker 5 (20:38):
Covi? Is this to you? After you fell?
Speaker 6 (20:40):
I'm falling and I can get up.
Speaker 5 (20:43):
How did you get that audio? I was hiding in
the tree seriously, it was so embarrassing.
Speaker 3 (20:48):
You did they know I hit? My knees were all
cut up. Like when you were a little kid and
you fell racing a friend and the pavement. That's how
it was. It happened to me recently. You have a
little pieces of pavement in your palm hands.
Speaker 5 (21:00):
Were the dogs?
Speaker 3 (21:01):
The dog was a safe But I think we've all
but my knees were not. We've all had an embarrassing
fall because we've been on our phones or we're not
paying attention. You might have walked into a street, walked
into a fountain. You've seen those videos. The best are these.
You know, women on her phone, she walks right into
a fountain. I'll be honest, falls right in. I just
laugh when it's a woman sometimes, I know say like
what do you?
Speaker 8 (21:21):
People on their phones walking is just a dangerous proposition, especially.
Speaker 3 (21:25):
Walking, especially if it's like a rich woman with a
bunch of shopping bags at the mall.
Speaker 5 (21:28):
In fold a fountain.
Speaker 3 (21:30):
That's the best you ever see someone walk across the
street and they walk into an empty like an open
man hall, just fall right in.
Speaker 5 (21:39):
That happens. I think there's there're supposed to have those
like guarded.
Speaker 3 (21:42):
Isn't that a bar you used to go to in
New York City, The Man Hall, Man Hold the Open
man Hole price drinks on Thursday. I'm pretty sure it is.
It's hard to explain, but Rich and I did the
same thing outside of Fox Sports Radio here in Sherman Oaks, California.
Speaker 5 (21:58):
You have to picture this.
Speaker 3 (21:59):
They have all these outside of the building, and I
think they've removed one of the trees or plants or whatever,
and they left this big giant open hole.
Speaker 5 (22:06):
And they're usually gated.
Speaker 3 (22:08):
They put like this gate sort of grill over them
sometimes and for whatever reason, there was nothing there and
both of us, at separate times, we're walking looking at
our phones and we stepped right in a good like
three feet dude almost broke our next Seriously, it was
so dangerous that we could have honestly caused the problem
for the city. Because it was so bad. They eventually
(22:30):
covered him up out front. But there was a big
giant hole and if you were if you weren't looking,
you were falling right in. I'm gonna sue, Yeah, nothing
you ever you ever see, Uh, it's probably a fake video,
but we've all seen those videos where like at a
wedding or an event. Someone doesn't realize they're walking close
to like a pool, and like some older woman will
(22:50):
well just you know, be not looking where she's going.
Half the footsteps on and into the pool. And yep,
so again that happened as the Brown's unveiled their new
all brown Alpha dog helmets. The guy ruined the whole Honestly,
it makes the moment like a mockery. It makes a
joke of the moment. It ruins the moment you blow
(23:13):
it falls into the lake and you see the dude
white mascot.
Speaker 1 (23:16):
Everyone's like, oh, our two year old CoA. He ran
into the sliding glass door the other day. I cleaned
it a few days ago, windecks, and I have an
excuse now to not clean that ever again it was
too clean.
Speaker 3 (23:31):
Rich did that in front of a celebrity. You want
to tell that story embarrassing moments because you're not looking
where you're going. We are at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel
and it's it's not even like a celebrity of a
big note, but we know really, I think I'll tweet
her right now and tell her you said that we
saw Sarah Silverman and it was a cool moment only
(23:51):
because she remembered us. She's like cald He not rich,
like she happened to be on our show recently, and
I was like, oh my gosh, she remembered us.
Speaker 5 (23:58):
We small talked and I was like, I good seeing you.
Speaker 3 (24:01):
I turned around as the glass sliding doors were closing
and Danny like, I'm telling you my face oil the
imprint was on the glass. And then you know, I'm
happy I didn't break the door.
Speaker 5 (24:17):
That happened to me.
Speaker 3 (24:18):
And by the way, as we rag on the Browns
a little bit with the Doodoo brown all uniform and
the guy falling in the lake.
Speaker 5 (24:25):
You almost have to take two and like, maybe not
use these helmets this season. I mean, I could have
maybe thought of this, but I just looked it up.
Speaker 3 (24:33):
Do you know they have according to most gambling sites
at mgm our friends, at DraftKings, Fan Duel, everywhere in Vegas,
they have the current lowest wind total over under in
the NFL. So they're they're looking like, do you have
more quarterback options or more wins?
Speaker 5 (24:54):
It's a great question. What do you guys think? That
is a good question.
Speaker 3 (24:59):
It's a great question, Steve, because the answer is more
quarterback options. Vegas has him at four and a half
wins over under wow quarterback options, and Vegas is predicting wins.
Speaker 5 (25:10):
So that's pathetic.
Speaker 3 (25:11):
As of right now, Vegas is saying, are they going
to go four and thirteen? They need to do five? Do
so your thoughts embarrassing moments, if you want to share.
We just thought it was a funny way for the
Browns to sort of break in the twenty twenty five. Hey,
by the way, you think we're all being duped right
now because everybody does it for the Gram and looks
for ways to go viral, we are talking about it.
Speaker 5 (25:34):
Oh you think they set it up.
Speaker 3 (25:35):
I mean it's not impossible, right. It's like the what
was that play that the Lions ran?
Speaker 6 (25:42):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (25:43):
Yeah it stumblebum Yeah, where Jared Goff pretended like he
slipped in this.
Speaker 3 (25:46):
Stumblebum and they did it and everyone thought like, oh man,
look Jared Goff almost fell.
Speaker 1 (25:51):
Wait a second, yeah, took the linebacker's eyes. Wait a minute,
they'll stumblebum See. Maybe you're all being stumble bummed and
they're just trying to go viral. You know, I wouldn't
put it past It's how you make.
Speaker 5 (26:04):
A memorable moment. Otherwise who would care?
Speaker 3 (26:07):
No, it makes me mad when some young ass clown
on TikTok or Instagram will say something or mispronounced something
purposefully just because they know they'll get engagement, because they
get hundreds of comments of people say that's so work.
It might have been drawn up in the border like here,
this is how we do it, Johnson. We got the
dude white maskout there.
Speaker 5 (26:26):
I know this guy.
Speaker 3 (26:26):
He falls into the lake and everybody's talking about it.
That's marketing, maybe marketing gold and we all just got dube.
Speaker 8 (26:35):
It's possible they're going to pass off as this organic
moment is embarrassing falling into the water, but it's actually stayed.
Speaker 5 (26:41):
That's how you do it, Johnson. That's how you do it. Man,
that's so weak. I hope, I hope.
Speaker 8 (26:47):
We're just floating that out there. Ye, that's what it is.
That's just the theory, floating it out there the lake.
Speaker 5 (26:54):
Thank you.
Speaker 6 (26:54):
I was.
Speaker 3 (26:56):
We're like filling Frank, apparently we're filling in for cowhard
Thursday and Friday.
Speaker 5 (27:01):
I can't wait.
Speaker 3 (27:02):
Stars attract stars, So we have lots to get to
midweek major giving away some prizes Mike's Wednesday Words of Wisdom.
We got these embarrassing moments for the Browns falling into
a lake and failing their new helmets. But do you
want to talk about this fighting for the foul ball
thing you've been I do, But I wanted to say
(27:25):
how to people chiming in. Let's start with Jesse and Indiana. Hey, Jesse,
what up?
Speaker 5 (27:29):
Jess?
Speaker 6 (27:30):
What up? Guys? How's it going?
Speaker 5 (27:32):
We're good man? What's your embarrassing story?
Speaker 3 (27:34):
Because I feel like while we could mock this, you know,
photographer for falling in a lake, I think we've all
taken a spell.
Speaker 5 (27:40):
You try to play it off, but it happens.
Speaker 2 (27:43):
Yeah. So my story goes back to when I was
in eighth grade. I was doing marching band and I
had a spot where I had to basically run across
the football field and right at the fifty yard line,
I tripped myself up and fell right in front a
big crowd of people.
Speaker 3 (28:01):
Man, that was like double embarrassing because then the number
one year in the march and Tuba fell on his head.
Number one year in the marching band, number two you fell,
and then the tube of fell in your head.
Speaker 5 (28:10):
I'm just kidding. We all marched our way somewhere. Yeah,
I did that just to make my mom proud. For
way too long, Steven before I remember my mom, Oh
my god, marching playing the trumpet like a goober.
Speaker 8 (28:24):
Did you guys see the video of the guy for
the Ohio State Marching Band a few years ago running
out of the tunnelly trips and just biffs it hard.
Speaker 5 (28:31):
Yeah, yeah, I have that story. I would saying.
Speaker 8 (28:35):
You played instrument as a kid, Oh, yeah, piano. I
played guitar, a little bit, some percussion, Oh sang in
the choir.
Speaker 3 (28:41):
See there was a choice we all had to make
back in the day. You had to either say goodbye
to the old trumpet or as Rich played third clarinet first.
Speaker 5 (28:51):
Of all, or ice sports.
Speaker 3 (28:53):
And I was like, all right, you know, trumpet's cool
and all, but I'd rather play some sports.
Speaker 5 (28:57):
Disagree.
Speaker 3 (28:57):
I continued doing both because I I was not gonna
let I want to play football and what suit up
and then put this goofy water buffalo head on. I
was not going to let someone force me into a decision.
I could do both.
Speaker 8 (29:09):
The Renaissance man, you can't play football and be in
the marching band. I was in the high school play
while I'm pitching in high school. You literally cannot be
in the marching band and play football. Sometimes, That's what
I'm saying, It's not possible. I want to accepted.
Speaker 5 (29:24):
Travis uh Oh, I forgot Rich was the first two
sport athletes.
Speaker 3 (29:28):
Yeah, it was yeah, marching band in baseball. He was
the grand Marshal of the Nerd Parade, and he played football.
Speaker 8 (29:32):
Do you pull out your pocket piccolo on the sideline
and start slowing for your teammates?
Speaker 3 (29:36):
I played the alto saxophone. Did you play an intrimate
Danny g were you a musicus?
Speaker 5 (29:40):
I did.
Speaker 3 (29:41):
I always found it interesting that we all sweat musicians.
But people would make fun of Ben there because I'm
like Danny Gus was the bass in the acapella. He
was in rockapella.
Speaker 5 (29:56):
I played the drums.
Speaker 1 (29:58):
I can see that Danny was like boom no. But
see the thing was we air base.
Speaker 5 (30:03):
It was.
Speaker 1 (30:03):
It was cool in middle school, but then to go
into high school you stopped because you'd have to join
the marching band. So seventh eighth, sixth, seventh eighth grade
I played the drums, and then ninth grade, I'm like
I'm out.
Speaker 3 (30:15):
Exactly, Isaac, did your love of weird al lead you
to the accordion.
Speaker 5 (30:18):
Or no, unbelievable? Did you play antru though I said, oh.
Speaker 9 (30:23):
I was a jock. Actually the true story. When I
was in high school, I was already announcing. So I
was announcing for all of our teams in high school.
So you played sports too, I played sports before that.
Speaker 5 (30:35):
But mister microphone and the bleachers doesn't count.
Speaker 9 (30:38):
Well, no, no, no, I well that was a different connotation.
Speaker 5 (30:43):
I was actually wearing a protective cup as I was in.
Speaker 9 (30:48):
My high school. Was famous for contributions to the performing arts.
Will Ferrell Saturday Night Live went to my high school,
University High School in Irvine. And also Nassim Pedrod, who
will also later was on Saturday Night Live, was a
classmate of.
Speaker 3 (31:03):
They always have that the three comedy the three comedy geniuses,
Isaac Lowe Cotts, we'll for different reasons. That's cool man
by the ranks for sharing a story. Look what you started. Now,
Well you know what, I have a question I want
to talk about. It has to do with foul balls.
But I do want to say, if you're a baseball
fan like we are, my Met's already won today tonight,
(31:25):
it's gonna be a great game. I know it's July
baseball and you might roll your eyes dog days of summer.
But Bassett versus Freed tonight, Yankees at Blue Jays. I
know we still have two months of baseball, but that's
a big matchup because the Yankees are trying to call
back into the Al East lead and they'll be making
moves soon, like, yeah, every game counts, but you're.
Speaker 5 (31:43):
Gonna be able to watch that. It's gonna be on
Prime though I got Prime. I don't know if he does.
He's a cheap skate. Cavino is the guy that will
watch a show he likes and then cancel it. You'll
give him his password though, I'm sure never.
Speaker 3 (31:54):
But it does look like a good matchup tonight. So Freed,
Max Freed, Chris Bassett, both pitchers with double digit wins.
It's gonna be a good one. So if you're a
baseball fan, good man, they're good. They're the real deal.
Speaker 5 (32:06):
All right.
Speaker 3 (32:07):
Well, let me tell you about a baseball story real quick,
and then we'll get to football and some other stuff.
But I'm at my first Mets game with my kids
and it was so cool to see how interested they were.
Speaker 5 (32:20):
We got great cee first me game at city Field.
Speaker 3 (32:22):
At Cityfield, and by the way, my family the street
continues if you care at all, we are now oh
and six at Mets games oh and six as a family.
My kids are like, did they ever win that? I'm like, yeah,
just when we're not here. So if you want, you
could go to at Rich Davis. I posted a little
(32:44):
video of my kids and our first trip to City Field,
which was awesome. I love City Field. One of the
best ballparks in all baseball. I think it's top five. Now,
you know, when an inning's over, let's say ground ball
to shore lindor to Alonzo, soh third out, Then you
know your first base one might toss the ball to
the second baseman, who then might toss it to the
(33:06):
third base. When a shorts up and as they're going
to the first base dugout, they'll do a toss into
the crowd of that ball. Now, my wife must have
been getting a hot dog or French frise with my
kid or something. So she's walking down the staircase to
our seat, and she had that feeling that you described
the other day at the home run derby where the
(33:27):
ball is coming right at you and you see it
in the air maturely, and the ball and everything else
fades away. It's getting bigger and bigger as it's my
seeing the laces turn real fast in the night sky.
My wife reaches up her hand and she's like, the
ball is gonna come to me. I feel, oh my god,
this is crazy. As the ball is about to hit
(33:50):
my wife's fingertip, she says she As she feels the
ball about like touching her fingertips, multiple grown men around
her knock her hat off her head. My son falls
out of her arms, and my wife gets body checked
by like four grown ups.
Speaker 5 (34:07):
And I had to explain to my wife that well as.
Speaker 3 (34:11):
And for the record, Rich's wife is a good looking woman,
Like what kind of goonburgers are knocking over a beautiful lady?
She's she's not like built like a yeah, how you
would think that they would have given her like the
beautiful woman courtesy of like Oh no, he.
Speaker 8 (34:26):
Say im, I'll let my wife know. You don't think
she's a brick house. I mean she's mighty, my tea.
Suddenly she's the third bushwhacker. So it's how you guys
were all pushing each other around.
Speaker 3 (34:37):
I had to explain to my wife because she was like,
not disgusted, but she's like, how embarrassing, And I go, yeah, babe,
but at a ballpark it's weird. Is it safe to
say that? Like there are no rules and people become savages.
That's loser, savage behaved.
Speaker 5 (34:53):
I'm sorry.
Speaker 3 (34:54):
It's always women and children, right, if your boat is
going down and if the fall out ball is coming away.
As much as I want to found ball, I think
I'm not going to jump be the jo that jumps
in front of a little kid or a woman to
steal that and like like physically, if it's thrown to me,
(35:15):
I might want to keep it and not give it
away because I never got well, but I'm not gonna,
you know, check body check a little kid or a
woman for that moment.
Speaker 5 (35:24):
It's just a loser. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (35:25):
The dude that hid into my excuse the dude that
hit into my wife the hardest was a guy double
my size. The guy looked like Ray Lewis in a
met stress. That's embarrassing, six or five big dude, and
he ends up scrambled around picking up the ball in fact,
I had my hand on it. I tried to I
ran to where it was. He picks up this ball
(35:46):
and the girl he was on a date with. You
know how kids you'll love to use the term ick.
My wife said his date looked disgusted by him because
it's like.
Speaker 5 (35:59):
Just throw man, yeah off a woman, a child.
Speaker 8 (36:02):
My son was all like, I wanted that ball and
it just just remember it's a free for all. But
if you're on a date, you could look like a
complete clown to the woman you're with.
Speaker 3 (36:14):
And I think catching the ball is the fun of it.
Once you catch the ball, give it to a kid
fighting for a found ball. Your thoughts on this, I
don't think there's any excuses. I don't think it's a
free for all. You gotta have some etiquette and well, yeah,
exactly right. Well let's go to Isaac for an update.
Isaac loehen Crown.
Speaker 9 (36:33):
From Foul Balls to home Run Ball Show. Hey Otani
homered in his fifth consecutive game today for the Dodgers.
They remain tied with the Minnesota Twins one to one,
top of the seventh den Get Dodger Stadium. Otani now
leads the National League with thirty seven to two behind
Seattle's Cal Rawley for the major league lead.
Speaker 5 (36:53):
We gotta talk about the Halkster. What you're gonna do? Brother? Like,
what a shot?
Speaker 3 (36:58):
Just when we started to process the Ozzy Osbourne passing,
You're like, what Hull holl Gang this is?
Speaker 5 (37:06):
This is a huge one. By the way, Isaac Lohenkron,
good to see you, my friends. Hey, buddy, condolence. I
what you gonna do? Danny g Isaac?
Speaker 3 (37:20):
Was there a dunce on this network that questioned you
leading with Hulk Hogan?
Speaker 5 (37:24):
I have no comment, but like I'm at the podcast.
Speaker 3 (37:27):
I mean, what an ass Clowan Doug Gottliebiz for saying
that you shouldn't lead with Hulk Cogan. Wow, what are
we gonna lead with Green Bay College basketball? Hulk Hogan
is an icon. We're talking about riches, hul Cogan child hero. Yeah,
he said some questionable stuff. People's impression of the Hulkster changed.
(37:47):
But if you were a kid of the eighties, if
you were a kid of the nineties, Hulk Hogan legend
a guy that meant so much to so many people.
Speaker 5 (37:56):
So to question you leading with him.
Speaker 3 (37:57):
I heard someone say that I'm like my goodness that
guy lost in the sauce. Well you could hear it
on the podcast Italian low On Kron said, but if
you're around my age, Rich's age Low and Kron, if
you're just a wrestling fan in you're twelve, come on,
you have to recognize and put differences aside and just
(38:19):
acknowledge the impact he had on a multi billion dollar industry.
I mean, I mean, it's not a lot of things
as big as wrestling is today.
Speaker 5 (38:28):
There's not many things that we've.
Speaker 3 (38:29):
Seen grow from the beginning to where it is now
like wrestling, and it wouldn't be what it is without
whole Colgan, There's no question about it.
Speaker 5 (38:39):
I was saying, did you just sit by when he
said that? Or did you did you.
Speaker 8 (38:42):
Just let Doug say that? I mean, yeah, I did
sit by. But later in the in the show, you know,
Doug was like, oh, let him say dumb crap like that.
It's a show. It's not my show, it's he can
you know. I guess so he's got his own opinion
on Hulk Hogan And I just said later that I
think that pro wrestlers are are athletes, as.
Speaker 5 (38:59):
Do a lot of people.
Speaker 3 (39:00):
Sam and I actually I did acknowledge that on our
Patreon Covino and Richie do a Patreon before our Fox
Sports show, and it's a little more wrong, a little
more uncensored, and you can't tell the whole Colgan story
without really bringing that up. So the way I handled
it was and everyone's going to handle things differently, of course,
(39:21):
passing of a legend and an icon, not trying to
judge anybody, but the way I did it was. I'm
sure a lot of people have mixed emotions about it
because you can't take away the things that he said,
and it's unfortunate, but it's also a major piece of
a lot of people's childhoods and you don't want to
dump on that either, And you can't take away from
(39:42):
the impact he's still had, regardless of how you feel
about him, in a gigantic industry, which is wrestling, sports
and entertainment a multi billion dollars. So yeah, I think
it's fair to say, I understand if you have mixed
emotions about it, but you can't take away the impact.
Speaker 5 (40:02):
I mean, look at it this way.
Speaker 3 (40:04):
There may be there may not be a person that
meant more to the industry that they were in than
hul Cogan meant to rest.
Speaker 5 (40:10):
Honestly, I think of one that's Babe Ruth, and he
is the Babe Ruth of wrestling.
Speaker 3 (40:16):
That is maybe the only analogy what Kaitlyn Clark is
doing for the WNBA.
Speaker 1 (40:20):
Right maybe what Magic Johnson and Larry Bird did for
the NBA.
Speaker 3 (40:23):
There's far and a few examples of people that put
the league, the organization, the company on their back and
carried it the way Kitlyn Clark right now. My goodness,
lower Beck must heard from carrying all those other women
because they care about her. Hull Cogan was the headliner
before the Rock, before Roman Reigns and Stone Cold and
(40:43):
all the Cody Rhoades, there was hul Cogan. Because before
that it was just like foreign dudes grappling maybod Be, Like,
let's get a Polish guy, Ivan Putski and he'll grapple
another Harry middle aged guy, Brunos and Martino like.
Speaker 9 (40:55):
That was what wrestling was before hul Cogan. Wrestling was
also reach and local, but it was not national. It
was always Hey on Channel five or Channel thirteen or
whatever the regional station. You've got wrestling every Saturday afternoon
or at the local dive, tiny arena you have wrestling.
It was a regional, local thing and Hulk made it national.
Speaker 3 (41:18):
And let's remember two how we all felt when we
saw this wrestling superstar in Rocky three as Thunderlips. That's
when you knew, like, wow, this is really getting big time.
Speaker 5 (41:30):
Or in the holes barred dookies.
Speaker 3 (41:32):
But when it started crossing over into that mainstream and
that MTV culture and the Cyndy Lauper stuff in and
the Mister t and the celebrities, that's when you really started,
even as a kid, noticing like, wait, this weird little
thing that I'm seeing here every once in a while
Saturday mornings. It's really blowing up and it's becoming a thing.
And I remember, I think we all, if you're around
that age, remember going to your parents and asking is
(41:55):
wrestling real? And I think they were a little confused
as well. They didn't know how to answer that because
it was all still so new and fresh and you
and this is all in part because of the success
of hul Colgan. It all wrote on him, it really did,
so like him or not, you can't take that away.
And you also don't want to lean into that when
someone just passed away.
Speaker 5 (42:16):
You know what's.
Speaker 3 (42:16):
Separating the separating the art and what they meant from
personal mistakes. Listen, we also listen to Michael Jackson music. Right,
you all still watch movies and listen to music of artists,
and you watch teams where athletes have beat women and
done horrific things.
Speaker 5 (42:34):
I don't say this. I mean it's touchy. It really is.
It's touchy.
Speaker 3 (42:38):
But you also don't want to mess with people's childhoods,
right because people are gonna get near and dear see
how defensive rich Cott just now? I mean, because you're
talking about someone you idolized as a child, it's your childhood.
You're not saying I love the man and who he
was and what he represented and the things he said.
You love what he meant to you back then at
(43:00):
as a kid, and you can't take away what he
did for the industry. So when people want to lean
into the negative, it's gonna turn some people off. But
also when you ignore the negative, it's gonna turn some
people off. It's a touchy situation. And I'm choosing to say, Wow,
(43:20):
what an impact he had on something we all loved
at one point in our lives.
Speaker 5 (43:25):
We took it. It's like video games.
Speaker 3 (43:27):
We all loved him growing up, and either you continued
on that path or you moved on from it. I
sort of moved on from it, but I still like
have a near and dear soft spot to it in
my heart. But some people still lived and loved that
wrestling life. It's bigger than ever, Bigger than that. You
or I may not watch Raw and Smack Down every week,
but when you were a kid, My childhood in the
(43:50):
late eighties nineties could be defined by baseball, cards, football,
and wrestling. Until I discovered boobs, until I just covered women,
my life was a trifecta of the Mets, the forty
nine ers, and wrestling. And I think I think insert
your teams and Nintendo. You your you know Fab four,
(44:12):
your Core four. As a child, when you think about it,
likely took you off track. You know, you took your
key Hernandez poster down for my Cidney Crawford.
Speaker 9 (44:21):
Yeah, and perhaps Miss Elizabeth helped me contribute to that
from a wrestling name.
Speaker 3 (44:26):
I remember when the Mega Powers exploded over You know
who can be in the luster? You know why you
connect so hard to these memories and they mean so much.
I mean, we wouldn't have them if it wasn't for
the Hulkster and him body slamming. You were watching a giant,
but you would call your friends over. Your memories are
so closely connected to this because you would have your
friends over, or you'd go to your friend's house for
(44:47):
the pay per view. You know, you'd have a night
with your buddies, maybe a sleepover. These were the best
times in your life. So you don't want to hear
anyone dumping on those moments.
Speaker 5 (44:57):
You know what.
Speaker 3 (44:57):
You were watching the Hulkster slam Andre the Giant the
same year you were collecting the wood Border nineteen eighty seven.
Speaker 5 (45:05):
Tops baseball cards.
Speaker 3 (45:06):
Those were the primo days of drop Steve Cavino in
let's say nineteen eighty seven, and you were a little
schoolboy and you had your binder full of wood Border
eighty seven Tops cards.
Speaker 5 (45:18):
Seven.
Speaker 3 (45:18):
I was wearing EyeBlack like Don Madnick you were doing.
You had a mullet like Dan Gladen. It was a
big year for the Twins. I was watching wrestling and
I was collecting, like you said, yeah, those wood Border
Tops baseball cards nineteen eighty seven. For short, I was
a primo time for a lot of us. If you're
around that forty to forty between forty and fifty years old,
(45:39):
hold on, if you're talking eighties mulleto eighty six eighty seven.
Are you gonna go Guyetti or you're gonna go Phil McConkie.
You were and you are in a New Jersey Guy Wow.
As far as mullet, I don't know. My dad, Big
Steve Cavino had a pretty legendary mullet. Now based on
the loss of Hulk Holgan and some of the things
you may have heard here on Fox Sports Radio throughout
the day, seventy one years old just adds to a
(46:02):
really wild week where again your childhoods have taken a
bit of a hit. Is there another person as impactful
to the industry as he was to wrestling?
Speaker 5 (46:12):
We mentioned a few.
Speaker 3 (46:13):
I'll even throw Ozzy Osbourne in there because it's fresh
on the mind. But metal and rock, not just metal,
because metal is an acquired thing. Not everyone's in the
heavy metal I get that right, But rock as a
genre would not be what it is without Ozzy Osbourne.
So you could say, yeah him to medal, Holgan to wrestling,
(46:35):
the Babe to baseball, Like certain people, it wouldn't be
what it is today without them. What else comes to
mind and impactful deaths, because I think this is one
of them. And again for some people it's different. For
some people it might be a little bit of a
conflicting sort of feeling because they don't forget what he said.
(46:56):
But I would say the death of Hulk Hogan is
one of the bigger ones over the last handful of years.
They're gonna laugh, but we just happened to have the
Prince of Darkness and Hulkamania both die in the same week,
and the reality is funny, I should say reality. They
were both larger than life guys, so much so that
in their later years they both had reality shows where
(47:18):
they followed around their families. We were fascinated with Ozzy Osbourne,
we were fascinated with Hulk Hogan. To get us to
get a look inside the household of the Hulkster or
Ozzy Osbourne and Sharon, that was story real quick. We
used to tease Rich that, you know, he was in
on the family like Riches. Rich always had a great
(47:39):
greater bond than I did with the Halkster. Not because the.
Speaker 5 (47:43):
Halkster liked Rich more. That was one of Rich's heroes.
Speaker 3 (47:47):
I just always I always admired watch and watch wrestling
like anybody else. Rich loved Hulk Hogan, Hulk Hogan, Joe
Montana and alf Right and Gary Gary car That's Rich's.
Speaker 5 (47:59):
Childhood there, Gary Coleman, so him too.
Speaker 3 (48:02):
You know, the Halkster embraced us, budd he embraced Rich,
especially because he meant a lot to Rich in his childhood.
There was one point, can I say it? Yeah, I
went to the Hogan's house for lunch. And when I
was at the Holkster's house, I remember seeing a closet
and when I tell you.
Speaker 5 (48:21):
A row of yellow tank tops, how you'd imagine it.
Speaker 6 (48:25):
Like that?
Speaker 5 (48:26):
So cool, red boots, just a straight up like.
Speaker 3 (48:30):
Yeah, this is the guest bedroom and you just saw
a closet was a yellow Wait a minute, the one
in bel Air the Bluffs, Florida, the one when they
were doing the reality show in Florida.
Speaker 5 (48:39):
Oh my god. And that was a gorgeous house too.
Speaker 3 (48:41):
So and the other fun fact, I don't know if
it's gonna say this, but I'm gonna play behind the
velvet row they were trying to write in a love
story for Brook and it was, you know, bending the
truth a little bit because Coloney Brook was younger and
she had a crush on Rich because they would stop
by as a family on our show, and he wanted
to write Rich into the shows as Brooks like older
(49:04):
love crush. It was, it was, it was a thought
and I was like, I can't do that. Well, Rich
was in a relationship, but they were like, yeah, are
you open to this? And Rich couldn't look past her
and not see Hull Holgan's face, you know what I mean?
But you know what, they were always kind to us.
And I know people have mixed emotions about the Hulkster,
but I mean he was an icon.
Speaker 5 (49:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (49:27):
But much like you said that the the names of
far and phebuteam what Magic and Larry Bird did to
start another another controversial when you mentioned him already though,
But would pop music be what it was without Michael Jackson?
Speaker 5 (49:40):
The King of pop? Right?
Speaker 3 (49:41):
He's a guy that that brought everybody together because he
was undeniably great.
Speaker 5 (49:48):
If you were a.
Speaker 3 (49:49):
Rock fan, a disco fan, a reggae fan, whatever fan,
you know, yeah, Michael Jackson's pretty awesome.
Speaker 5 (49:56):
This is pop music. He's the king of pop.
Speaker 1 (49:58):
He survived. Our Kelly couldn't because radio stations are not
playing R. Kelly music any longer. This is so damn
but they're playing.
Speaker 8 (50:05):
Michael Jackson's so it's just better Michael Jackson's meat.
Speaker 1 (50:09):
It's timeless and obviously since he was a kid, he
was a huge star. But the other one that comes
to mind really quick, Covino. I would have never watched
golf in my adult life had it not been for
Tiger Woods.
Speaker 5 (50:20):
That's great.
Speaker 1 (50:21):
I mean, that's He's had a lot of controversy in
his life.
Speaker 5 (50:25):
Obviously. Ah, dude, Michael Jackson, Tiger the all countries. You
have to you don't have to love everything about the
man to acknowledge the impact that they had, right, I
think that's fair to say so eight seven seven ninety
nine on Fox. Wow.
Speaker 3 (50:39):
A little bit of a touchy subject, but again, that's
how impactful the Hulkster was.
Speaker 5 (50:45):
What are your thoughts?
Speaker 3 (50:46):
Is there anyone else's impactful and any other deaths that
hit you as hard? There's a commonality. There's one I
have rich that comes to mind, and you may think
I'm joking, but I'm not. But there's a commonality there
because Paul aka pe Wee Herman was one for me.
And I know that sounds funny, but so much of
my humor and so many of my quotes and references
(51:09):
and childhood fun with Pewe's Playhouse, and so much fun
I had with my friends watching Peewe's Big Adventure, got
the chance to meet him a few times. He and
his comedy meant so much to me that when he passed,
I felt terrible about it. And the commonality is that
we grew up in a time where these characters, these artists,
(51:30):
these entertainers leaned into the gimmicks so hard that that's
who they were. Paul Rubins was pee Wee Herman, Terry
Malaya was Hulk Holgan, and we bought into it and
loved every second of it. And that's honestly one of
the benefits we have of being eighties kids and growing
up in that time. I wouldn't change it for anything.
But when he died, I felt like a part of
my childhood died a little bit, and that's how a
(51:52):
lot of people feel today. I wasn't like a mega
fan of this guy, but I remember really being bumm
when Chris Farley died.
Speaker 5 (52:00):
Why because I just felt like he had so much
to give. Some just hit you hard different than others.
Speaker 3 (52:04):
Were not a mega fan or though I mean like
you're a fan. I was a fan, but it wasn't
like Man Farley is my favorite.
Speaker 8 (52:09):
I don't remember having a long time ago, but it
was right ninety seven, you know what it was. I was.
Speaker 3 (52:14):
I was in the heart of like my high school
immature like Sandler far Lead, David Spath, and I just
remember being like that. It was in the pocket of
that nineties late nineties comedy. So when we lost far Lee,
I was like, oh, it's funny you say that, you
say Farley, And of course everyone was saddened by that, right,
But I remember, because I've been doing a show with
Rich for twenty years. I remember Rich being oddly upset.
(52:37):
And again, it's going to be different for everybody, universal
for some. But when Norm MacDonald died, it personally affected
you remember, really really exceptionally personally sad about it.
Speaker 5 (52:47):
I was, and I am a huge Norm McDonald fan.
Speaker 3 (52:50):
I feel like his comedy, his timing, his whole awkward presentation.
Speaker 5 (52:55):
We all have our personal favorites, was amazing. You know.
Speaker 3 (52:58):
I don't want to put it out there. I won't
even name the people, but there's a few people that
are alive that I know I will be said when
they're gone, I won't put the old Jamboozi, you know,
hex on them. But you know there's a few out
there that are getting up there in age and you
will be rather upset, whether they're musicians or some of
your favorite athletes. In fact, Danny, we were just talking
(53:18):
about it around the time of the All Star Game.
We've lost so many baseball legends that guys like Mike
Schmidt eighties players are now some of the oldest legends.
Speaker 5 (53:29):
There's very few guys like who is the oldest guy?
We thought of Lefty Gomez, Like, oh no, no, Sandy
Kofex too.
Speaker 3 (53:38):
But we're talking about all the guys you would think
of the Hammer and Hanks and the Willie Mays and
that whole Tom Seaver.
Speaker 5 (53:44):
That generation of Goaders.
Speaker 3 (53:45):
Are the Schmidts and the Molitors and the Manningies and
then the Bogs and yeah, the Elders, the eighties guys
we grew up with. There's the the Unks, the Ogs,
and then the elders. They're the elder Statesman him I'm.
Speaker 1 (53:59):
So bad, by the way, not lefty, But there were
only a couple of pictures, right rich.
Speaker 5 (54:04):
I mean on that list we.
Speaker 3 (54:05):
Were we were looking up what hall of famers are
still alive? And when I tell you, there was a couple,
and then it jumped right to our favorite stars of
the eighties and stuff, and I was.
Speaker 1 (54:14):
Like, really a lot of the sluggers though we were
talking about gone.
Speaker 5 (54:19):
Yeah, no, it's it's listen. It's sad.
Speaker 3 (54:21):
It's a sad day for kids of the eighties and
nineties especially, So your thoughts will take your feedback next.
Speaker 5 (54:28):
Rest in peace, hul Cogan.
Speaker 3 (54:32):
He's the real American in a time where the wwe
really leaned into those stereotypes, right, I mean in a
crazy way looking back, but we have to as a
culture remember it was just a different time. That's just
how it was. And he was the shining light and
a time where you hated the Iron Cheek. Yeah in
a fun way, right, in a fun way.
Speaker 5 (54:53):
But he was the guy. He didn't have a hero.
Speaker 3 (54:56):
The Iron Cheek did have cool boots, though, remember he's
been to the Curl and the point.
Speaker 5 (54:59):
On the end.
Speaker 1 (55:00):
The Hulkster even had the best ice cream bar on
the planet.
Speaker 5 (55:03):
Oh yeah, I remember that for sure.
Speaker 3 (55:05):
How chalky and terrible were those WWS ice cream bars?
And on a throwback Thursday, let's not forget the cartoon, right,
the wrestling cartoon exactly.
Speaker 5 (55:16):
And he had his CDs.
Speaker 3 (55:18):
Remember he was always jamming out and playing guitar, and
he was a nice dude. We've interviewed him many times
and we had a lot of moments with him. You
know what we did, Danny g As we reminisce a
little bit too. We would have him call up people
we had problems with. Like you hear how Rich is
clearly like agitated by Gottlieve today, right, because you're talking
about Rich's childhood hero and a lot of our childhood
(55:41):
And we get it. Hogan said, questionable dumb things, but
no one's perfect. And I look at him as my
childhood hero, not a man that made mistakes. It's it's
mixed emotions, I get that, right, whatever, But let's say,
let's say we wanted to really give Doug a piece
of our mind in a playful way.
Speaker 5 (55:56):
We would have the Hulkster call up people on our behalfling.
Listen to me, brother, you got a problem? My main man,
Rich Davis. This is a true story, true story.
Speaker 3 (56:06):
There was a girl I was talking to and her
ex boyfriend was lingering, was threatening Rich and he was
threatening me, like you go near her, I'll kill you.
And I'm like, yo, yo, you're her ex, get out
of here. And I told Hulk this story on the
air and he goes, what's his name?
Speaker 6 (56:18):
Brother?
Speaker 5 (56:19):
He called this guy and left him a voicemail. Remember
his name.
Speaker 3 (56:25):
And everything too. His name was Spencer. Spence slipped me
tell you something, Spencer.
Speaker 5 (56:32):
I called Spencer too. This is great. It was so funny.
Speaker 3 (56:35):
So the Hulk Stary was like so much fun to
have a larger than life hero, like almost a cartoon
character in your studio and in your presence. Man, he
was that guy man, and he's a guy who took
a lot of pride in saying I remember he could
be anywhere in the world and people would recognize him
because that red and yellow and the mustache to handle
(56:56):
more mustache was so synonymous. The Headman was so synonymous.
He put it on the map. So most of emotions
is fun. Fact it was him, Muhammad Ali and Mickey Mouse.
At one point with figures in the world, you could
be in a hut in the middle of a jungle,
is what he said, and they would know who Hulk
Hogan was and based on that.
Speaker 5 (57:17):
Is it fair to have mixed emotions? Yes?
Speaker 3 (57:19):
Is it fair to say, hey, it's a huge part
of your childhood, so back off. Yes, But is there
anyone as impactful to their industry as him? There's a
few examples if you want to name some mothers by
all means due and then other just impactful deaths. Because
when a guy like that passes away, is a big
part of your childhood passes away, Well, that's that's what's
(57:41):
going to hit you later on. It will listen to this.
I know I don't want to be a prisoner of
the moment, but I really think I was Sam Your girl.
Caitlin Clark is the most recent example of someone that
is doing more for their industry, sport, or company than
anyone else.
Speaker 5 (57:59):
I have.
Speaker 3 (57:59):
A WNBA was on life support and Kaitlyn Clark is
going to get these women huge raises. They fly differently.
Now there's the tendance records, they have network deals. Kaitlyn
Clark is the babe, Ruth is the whole, Cogan is
the magic and Larry Bird of today, I would say, who.
Speaker 5 (58:18):
Would you say?
Speaker 3 (58:19):
Is that for the UFC, because that's another industry we
saw sort of from the ground well, yeah, from the
ground up to where it is now? Is there one
person that stands down like yo, there wouldn't be a
UFC if it wasn't for that.
Speaker 5 (58:32):
I don't think there's one guy. Yeah, I can't.
Speaker 3 (58:34):
I guess there's different divisions. No one's undefeated. That's not
like a thing, So there's not you know, Mike Tyson
love for boxing mag Tag Ali? Right, yea, I would
say Muhammad Ali, but Mike Tyson for a different generation. Absolutely,
But Hulk Hogan was and is that guy. And you
see not only to our childhoods, but did you see
(58:55):
Rick Flair today? He couldn't keep it together. I mean
it's so sad, so we're speaking out and who would
have thought he'd go before Rick Flair? Right, it's so
sad to see your heroes and childhood heroes go down.
Speaker 5 (59:07):
Now.
Speaker 3 (59:07):
If you're watching on the live stream on the Fox
Sports Radio YouTube page, I don't know if it's accessible spot,
but you can look it up on your own if
you go to at Rich Davis or at Covine on Rich,
I posted a video. This is about got to be
ten fifteen years old, hul Cogan. We did a step
by step instructional. He taught me how to rip my
T shirt off. It's weird that you still do that
(59:28):
at the beach though, and in the bedroom. Yeah, you know, yeah, hey,
you know what, poor Sarah.
Speaker 5 (59:33):
Sometimes my WiFi, sometimes my wife will ask for do
the hulkster.
Speaker 3 (59:36):
I'm like, you dropped the big one, and then and
then at the end, I do the whole Like I
put my hand to my ear. Just when you think
Rich isn't ready for round two, he hulks up and
and he brings it again.
Speaker 5 (59:47):
What you're gonna do, Sarah? That match was not scheduled
for one fall.
Speaker 3 (59:51):
No, no, no, no, you know what, Rich, because we
got to get through the phone calls and of course
Tyreek kill and old school in fifty hits. I can
tell you straight up, we're gonna talk about the top Hulk.
Holgan moments on over promised our bonus podcast that's an
hour and a half from now on Fox Sports Radio's YouTube.
Speaker 5 (01:00:07):
We'll save it for there. We'll play the videos and stuff.
Speaker 3 (01:00:09):
Yeah, yes, it's more of a video thing, So we'll
do the top Hulk Holgan moments on over promised our
bonus show later today, so join us live. That's at
four pm on the West, seven pm on the East
Fox Sports Radios YouTube page. And you know there's a
related pay per views story in the news, so we'll
talk about pay per views because again, these are the
(01:00:30):
best times of our childhood.
Speaker 5 (01:00:31):
No doubt. In fact, that's what Hun and La hit
us up.
Speaker 3 (01:00:33):
But he's listening on the iHeart app and he said, Yo,
whatever people's feelings on Hogan are put that aside because
he was such a part of our childhood. If you're
thirty something to fifty something, you grew up with Hulk Hogan. Yeah, undeniable,
undeniable brother absolutely and as uh I love the the
(01:00:53):
more eclips. I'm sorry you are not the brother ye
contrary to ye twenty three me proved by the way,
not only like did he change your lives, he changed
the culture of wrestling because all those dudes spoke like him.
Speaker 5 (01:01:06):
With the brother and brother and brother, they all did. Brother.
Speaker 3 (01:01:10):
Let's let's go rapid fire and they'll go to Isaac
for an update. Danny g who we got.
Speaker 5 (01:01:14):
Man, Let's start with Evan in Los Angeles.
Speaker 7 (01:01:16):
What's up Evan, Hey Covino and Rich longtime listener. I
love you guys.
Speaker 5 (01:01:22):
You man, I'm like you Rich.
Speaker 7 (01:01:24):
I grew up with Hulk is just like my dad
love the Holk, Like I got the same brother from
my dad. Like he was like, hey, brother, you know
this is what you're gonna do. You know, it was
just he taught me, like and then I didn't even
know who Hulk was and they showed me Rocky and
he's like, that's the Hulk. And then after that he
showed me all the whole videos. He found stuff from
swap meats to watch, like Hulk and Andrea the Giant
(01:01:45):
Wrestle and he's like, that's because I was the Sonko
Steve Austin Van.
Speaker 3 (01:01:48):
Does anyone remember going to like Blockbuster or Hollywood Home,
Hollywood Video and they'd have those Colisseum home videos, like
those random wrestling tapes with your buddy Sam Uh Speaking
of Thunderlips and Sylvester Stallone, Stallone did post I had
the pleasure of meeting this brilliant personality in showm He
was just twenty six years old. We leave Thunderlips Rocky three.
(01:02:11):
He was only twenty six. He was absolutely wonderful, amazing
skill made Rocky three incredibly special. My heart breaks that
I think he's got.
Speaker 5 (01:02:27):
It is time.
Speaker 3 (01:02:28):
Like you said on a Happy Gilmore Friday, Danny g
h before he entered the studio, I was happy to
hear that you and your lovely wife Brenda have the
same plan as my family does. Go home tonight, poor drink,
I don't know, pappin edible, have a nice dinner.
Speaker 5 (01:02:45):
Grill up some murgers. Who knows.
Speaker 1 (01:02:46):
Hold on, Danny Gen never said anything about that. Yeah,
we got a two year old. We're popping apple juice.
Speaker 3 (01:02:52):
Okay, well, fair enough, do what you must. But you
said you were gonna watch Happy Gilmore. Yeah, the first
one as a little preview, A little four play, a
little refresher.
Speaker 5 (01:03:03):
By the way.
Speaker 3 (01:03:03):
You know what, I realized it's been so long since
I've seen Happy Gilmour, even though I've seen it, we've
all seen it one hundred times, of course, but it's
been a minute. You ever realized that Will Sasso's in
that movie? Because I saw a clip recently. I'm like,
wait a second, is that Will Sasso? You probably go
mad TV. I had to go to the IMDb from
Mad TV.
Speaker 5 (01:03:23):
He was the move one of the movies. He was
one of the movers.
Speaker 3 (01:03:25):
Like I don't know if it ever really dawned on
me or registered that were at the time as hell Day, Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:03:31):
That was like Mad TV is going on at that time.
Like Will Sasso was in it. I forgot all about that.
He was also in Beverly Hills Ninja.
Speaker 3 (01:03:38):
There was a lot of stars maybe before their time
as well, like Julie Bowen, who I think is gorgeous
and super talented Modern family. She's in the second one,
But that was a young Julie Bowen. As was it
Virginia Vennett? So I say, watched the first one? It
was Veronica Vaughan. It was Vicky Valancourt. Did you know
that right? That every girlfriend of a Sandler movie is
vv Vicky Vancoy. Soey, that's Veronica mom.
Speaker 5 (01:04:07):
So two movies. Here's the here's the question for the
Fox Sports Radio Nation.
Speaker 3 (01:04:11):
I get way deep. You know, this is the hard
hitting stuff Kavino Rich brings. You do you know one
person that doesn't plan on watching Happy Gilmore too? I
can only imagine Netflix my mom, she won't hell No,
she won't want Okay, there's your answer. Yeah, but my
mom seventy one. My mom is seventy, and she will
watch She wan that movie Happy Gilmore probably reminds my
(01:04:34):
mom of when her kids were not forty, when her
kids were twelve.
Speaker 5 (01:04:38):
My mom would never watch that. It's one of those movies, like, please, mom,
just watch it. This is stupid.
Speaker 3 (01:04:44):
Yeah, she's one of those. So she didn't watch the originally?
Did just watch that stick? I'm not like, I don't
think she necessarily counts in this conversation. Okay, let's leave
out seventy year old mom.
Speaker 5 (01:04:54):
Hold on, if you if you ask your mom to
watch this, this is what she would say.
Speaker 2 (01:04:57):
Gold jacket, dreen jacket, Who gives it?
Speaker 3 (01:05:00):
Think that that's My Mom's the type to say, why
don't you watch something.
Speaker 5 (01:05:04):
Classic like Angels with thirty Faces? How about them all
Pie's Falgar?
Speaker 3 (01:05:11):
How about something with James Cagney like she'll want to
take it to that route? Come on, mom, how about
Billy Madison? How about Happy Gilmore? There's no way, but
I gave you the one. But I don't think that's
like an appropriate I still think that your so eliminate
seventy year old moms from the conversation. You're in our
(01:05:32):
world now, Grandma, who watches what Turner movie classics?
Speaker 5 (01:05:37):
I don't know get do you know any let's just.
Speaker 3 (01:05:39):
Say contemporary friend, coworker, guy in your softball team, guy
in your bowling team, the guy at the gym. Can
you imagine anyone saying yeah, I'll pass. I feel like
this is gonna be universally watched.
Speaker 5 (01:05:52):
There's gonna be.
Speaker 3 (01:05:53):
Critics that are like, oh, it stinks, it's not as
good as the first one. Of course that happens every time.
But I can't imagine someone on a frontday, Saturday night
end the summer, late night hits. You go in the house,
you know, laid down to go to bed. Like I said,
poor drink pop something. You don't think people everyone's gonna
watch this movie.
Speaker 5 (01:06:10):
It's definitely.
Speaker 3 (01:06:13):
Something like you said, we need on this heavy hearted
sort of weekend, we could put your feet up, enjoy
a cocktail. I just just relax and have a good,
cheap laugh. I feel like it feels perfect. So even
if you were on the fence about it, I think
it's a great idea. After you're done with your team,
after you're done on a throwing out the trash.
Speaker 5 (01:06:35):
You put your feet up and enjoy. After I watched
the Mets beat the Giants tonight, and Danny will like that. Rich,
What are you popping in there? Someone was a little cans?
What's that little can?
Speaker 3 (01:06:43):
It looks so it is tiny in your hands over,
I feel like a giant, sim I think Andre the
Giant holding a beer can.
Speaker 8 (01:06:49):
Those little Starbucks espresso cans. We know because you had
one earlier this week and we were worried about your
mental state.
Speaker 3 (01:06:55):
Let me tell you something, when you hold one of these,
that's how Andre the Giant felt holding a beer can. Honestly,
I feel like a giant.
Speaker 5 (01:07:01):
You ever seen that? Jim Jeffries bit, I'm a giant, Kate, Yes,
like a giant.
Speaker 3 (01:07:05):
How about you focus? You're all caffeine. Seriously, you're talking
about relaxing. This guy spinning in his chair right now
on the cafe. I got two little kids, you ever check?
I got to get them to bed before I even
think about But you realize you just like a mile
a minute even need that caffeine. I know, like he
just took his first sit meanwhile, like he can't stop
this guy's bouncing around talking about relaxing later, there's no
(01:07:27):
relaxing with this dude. Relaxing I never see relaxing way, Sam,
you recorded me coming into the studio. It's like absurd,
a clouded dust behind him.
Speaker 5 (01:07:40):
It really is.
Speaker 3 (01:07:40):
Well so, but don't let me your question. Yeah, don't
let my ramblings confuse you to answer your question. The
question is why I really like know anybody?
Speaker 5 (01:07:47):
How about this? How about what?
Speaker 3 (01:07:48):
We make a statement instead of asking a goofy question.
You're a lame o and you're not my friend. You're
the type of person I don't want to hang with, unless,
of course, you're my mom. If you're not sitting back
and enjoying a cheap laugh tonight courtesy of Happy Gilmore.
The Long Awaited like it's almost like the comeback of
an old friend you haven't seen in a long time.
You don't want to see him and Shooter McGavin one
(01:08:09):
more time. Come on, you're a lame o if you're
not watching now. Even a guy that I respect that
is quote not a movie guy. I feel like Dan
Byer even throws this movie on.
Speaker 5 (01:08:21):
Is that true?
Speaker 8 (01:08:21):
You're a golf guy, You're not a movie guy. But
I can imagine you'll throw this on you.
Speaker 5 (01:08:27):
You would think you would think.
Speaker 10 (01:08:30):
Instead tonight, me and my wife will sit back and
be watching Casablancay, just like Hevino's mom, enjoying just some
of the classics, you know, because we're a little more
highbrow than everyone else.
Speaker 5 (01:08:41):
You know what my mom's saying right now, I knew
I love Dan Tyer.
Speaker 3 (01:08:45):
That's why I like a classic like Casablanca, she says,
send me a list of things that she recommends to you.
Speaker 5 (01:08:52):
Okay, have they never seen this Cagny movie? Right, I'll
tell you what. I will watch it.
Speaker 10 (01:08:59):
There's gonna be cameos from PGA tour players. I think
that it is a great way. Especially no like there's
this is like a three day window because, as he
said last Thursday, without pro college football until the new year,
there's like, this is the opportunity. Now schools are going
to be starting like in a couple of weeks, like
some start the first or second week of August. It's
crazy as it is, so there's going to be that.
(01:09:21):
So at some point I will check it out. I
don't know if it'll be tonight, but yes, I will
be watching Happy Gilmore too.
Speaker 5 (01:09:26):
Well, Dan Bayer.
Speaker 3 (01:09:27):
Today a big day in the golf cinema world because
it was on this day. I'm fun, fat guy.
Speaker 1 (01:09:33):
You know this.
Speaker 5 (01:09:34):
In nineteen eighty Caddy Shack came out on this day.
Speaker 8 (01:09:36):
Yeah, just saw yes twenty five years ago. Today Caddy
Shack in today. Gilmore Part two.
Speaker 5 (01:09:43):
Can't wait. But here's the thing.
Speaker 3 (01:09:45):
I think everybody needs to check their brain at the door.
Don't expect the classic. These aren't the type of movies
that Rotten Potato gives one hundred percent to.
Speaker 5 (01:09:55):
Right. You go there, sit down and just enjoy for
what it is. They can't They can't steal our childhood
type joy.
Speaker 3 (01:10:04):
Yeah, and it's not gonna It's not about outdoing the
first one. It's about recapturing the nostalgia of the first one.
It's just stupid fun. I haven't seen it yet. I
haven't heard a real reaction yet from someone I respect.
But I have seen some clips. I saw bed Bunny
and Travis Kelce. I've seen that floating around. An said,
there's a lot of great cameos. I don't want to
(01:10:25):
give it away, but I have seen I'll just say
a classic hip hop artist makes a cameo that I
was like, oh yeah, and I understand the premise at least,
and that's old news, right, I'm not giving away the plot.
And if I say that, I'm pretty sure it's about
Happy Gilmour down on his luck financially and hes he
needs to send I think in the preview, which in
(01:10:46):
the first ten seconds he has to send his daughter
to an overpriced like ballet college or something.
Speaker 5 (01:10:51):
But I got no money, right, So.
Speaker 1 (01:10:53):
You guys want to take a quick guess at what
the critics are rating it versus the fans.
Speaker 5 (01:11:00):
It's gotta be low. I don't think there's ever been
a Sailor movie that was critically a collect Can I just.
Speaker 8 (01:11:04):
Before we do that, can I say that I tried
to get through hub Halloween, which was a Netflix Adam
Sandler movie and had Tony cameos just like Happy Gilmore two,
And that was a rough watch.
Speaker 5 (01:11:13):
I'm gonna be honest. Halloween, that's a family tradition for me.
It was upon us.
Speaker 8 (01:11:18):
It was like, first twenty minutes was really funny, and
then I'm like, I can't do it. So he has
a bit of a history with Netflix movies, maybe not
doing so great, But I.
Speaker 5 (01:11:25):
Am going to watch this.
Speaker 3 (01:11:26):
You know what, I believe Dan Patrick's in that one.
Yes he is, He's in He's in that like the
room motatoria, right, you know what canvi You know, and
I think joked about that. We loved it because it
was so over the top ridiculous. Kevin James, isn't that
too qub Halloween? Yeah, there's like every SNL cast member
makes an advance. You're like, it just got so ridiculous again,
(01:11:46):
check your brain at the door. My guest energy is
that tomato meter the fans are given it popcorn meter.
Speaker 5 (01:11:54):
I feel like the popcorn meter.
Speaker 3 (01:11:55):
With the fans, you're getting a pretty solid seventy eighty
something percent. Wow, good guest, seventy four and rotten potatoes.
The critics, who I roll my eyes at and give
it like thirty percent. Yeah, post your pat passing level.
I guess almost there. You know someone's going to say
this was a double bogie for me. This just did
(01:12:16):
not just that's what.
Speaker 1 (01:12:18):
That's what.
Speaker 5 (01:12:18):
Also an old movie critic, I think sounds like by
the way.
Speaker 3 (01:12:22):
Dan Bayou said, the cameos from actual PGA tour players,
you saw that and stick another golf show that I
keep trying to pass on you do I'm pushing Owen
Wilson and Mark.
Speaker 5 (01:12:31):
Maron on you.
Speaker 3 (01:12:32):
We'll save that because speaking of Happy Gilmore and Stick
and this weekend, every Friday we get into weekend hobnobbing.
So before the end of the show, we'll give you
other things you need to watch so that you know
what to talk about. You know what's going on come Monday,
because there's more to life, believe it or not than Oh,
Happy guild More. Do you think that the cameo and
(01:12:54):
the appearances from Kelsey in this movie will what's the
word ingratiate himself more to the football and pop culture audiences.
Speaker 5 (01:13:01):
Like, man, this guy's just awesome.
Speaker 3 (01:13:02):
Like I saw a clip from Drew Bledsoe, who I
know you always feel bad for do you know, I
know you feel like he got the raw deal. People
have to say Wally Pip, but he got Tom Brady
got Brady. Drew Bledsoe, Yeah, you know, Drew Bledsoe was
supposed to be Brett Farv and something about Mary.
Speaker 5 (01:13:20):
Yes, I didn't know.
Speaker 3 (01:13:21):
You see that clip recently floating around like he admitted
that in an interviewed. Originally they wanted Steve Young but
Steve Young is remember the movie Something About Mary takes
place in the Bay Area, and it was going to
be Steve Young, but he was like too much of
a good Mormon guy to be part of a hard
R comedy. They tried to go to Bledsoe and Bloodsoe
was trying to get his bad boy act together, so
he's like, ah, no thanks, and they went with FARV.
(01:13:44):
Did you know that Sea Bass kick his ass? Sea
Bass was supposed to be Rodger Clemens.
Speaker 5 (01:13:50):
I didn't know that was a hockey player up until
like a year ago. Yeah, but cam Neely can. But
that's another fun fact. Though Roder Clemens would have been great.
Speaker 3 (01:13:58):
Can I tell you it's uh the rumor. I think
we could end the show right now, and you've already
learned enough. Clemens was supposed to be Sea Bass and
Drew Bledsoe was supposed to be in Something About Mary.
Speaker 5 (01:14:09):
Good Night, Hey have a good weekend, everybody. You've learned
enough to have a great weekend.
Speaker 3 (01:14:13):
Later A well, husson, there is a lot of stuff
we're gonna get to on today's Show're gonna have a
lot of fun.
Speaker 5 (01:14:16):
It's a Friday, A happy Gilmore Friday. Today's Friday.
Speaker 3 (01:14:22):
Right now, it's time to play a game that's sweeping
the nation. Chipotle worker or a w NBA player.
Speaker 5 (01:14:29):
Gee, don't play? Are you gonna get a Marie Brown jersey?
Does she play? Let's play a game that is clearly
sweeping the nation. Chapotle worker, w NBA player. Yeah, yay.
Speaker 3 (01:14:41):
By the way, Danny, g I want to give you
credit because I feel like Shane Gillis stole your whole lot.
Speaker 5 (01:14:46):
Know, right, did this joke two years before Gillis did
it at the sp when, by the way, he was fantastic.
I know this controversy.
Speaker 3 (01:14:52):
If you don't think Shane Gillis was fantastic at the SP's,
I think you're a little little sensitive to lighten up
a little bit. But when he did the whole shout
out to a w NBA play, He's like, no, it's
not it's actually my friend's wife.
Speaker 5 (01:15:05):
I was like, no, that's straight out of our little.
Speaker 1 (01:15:07):
I just wish he would have let the joke breathe
just a little bit and get more people on the hook.
Speaker 10 (01:15:12):
I'm sure you'll take your advice, Danny. I'm I'm sure
he kind of needs that.
Speaker 5 (01:15:16):
I'm sure. Well, no, I'm just saying, like the camera
wasn't on the fake w NBA player.
Speaker 3 (01:15:20):
You should you should hit him up. Maybe you could
be a consultant for tire season three.
Speaker 10 (01:15:25):
Comedians always love it when you tell them how they
could make it better. Well, kill Murphy and raw, this
is what you should have done.
Speaker 6 (01:15:31):
Well.
Speaker 1 (01:15:31):
You know what, though, dB all through all throughout his
sb's opening he kept blaming writers on the jokes that
people were hissing at.
Speaker 5 (01:15:39):
Yeah, well, oh that made it funny.
Speaker 3 (01:15:40):
Yeah, you know, Danny g did come up with the
ideas sole worker or w NBA player because, I mean,
for most people, it's hard to figure out what's what.
Speaker 5 (01:15:50):
Ay, right, let's do this.

know as much about the w NBA as they pretend to.

with burritos from Chipotle.
Speaker 5 (01:16:11):

million dollars. His signing bonus is ten point four million.
Fox NFL insider Jordan Schultz says that the sticking point
(01:25:08):
between the two sides was some language in the contract.
The Bengals got their way in that sort of deal.
What Stuart got us he got his signing bonus or
a portion of his signing bonus at an earlier date.
Speaker 3 (01:25:18):

the old characters like oh Man. So if you're a
Dexter fan, don't be sleeping on it. It's great. That's
on Paramount Plus. And I gotta promote our bonus show,
over promised. It's Covino and Rich. It's a hybrid of
what we do here, but we go a little off tangent.
It's a little crazy. Episode one oh one, uh No,

watch the first one, que up the second one, have
a night, have a night.
Speaker 5 (01:27:26):
Watch both of them. Back to Belly.
Speaker 3 (01:27:29):
Now, you know, I'm not a big wrestling fan like
I was during the Holkster days. Does SmackDown air on
on Friday night? Sold On went to SmackDown Air because Yeah,
today they're apparently they're apparently doing a huge tribute to
the Hulkster and whatever remaining superstars.
Speaker 5 (01:27:47):
That are alive.
Speaker 3 (01:27:48):
I'll love the Million Dollar Man or any like. There's
very few that are still around. Jake to Snake, Rick
Flair is still alive.
Speaker 5 (01:27:53):
The Rick Flair.
Speaker 3 (01:27:54):
I think tonight there'll be a big tribute to the
Hulkster on WWE SmackDown, which is on USA. Like I said,
Happy Gilmour. Stick I've been pushing on Apple TV. It's
so good. Ten episodes of Finale was this week, so
watch Stick. You mentioned Dexter Resurrection. It is as good
as any Dexter has ever been. It's so well done.
Michael Shall nails that character so great. You know, my
(01:28:16):
wife and I sort of watching the show that. I mean,
you're a big music fan, so maybe you would like
this might be a little cheesy for a guy like
Danny G. Have you seen building the band on that scene?
Speaker 5 (01:28:28):
I watched the trailer.
Speaker 1 (01:28:29):
Yeah, you know what.
Speaker 3 (01:28:30):
The whole concept is, we all love Love is Blind? Right,
I'm only up to episode like two or three. They
sing no one sees them, and other kids in the
other pods decide do I want to be part of
a music group.
Speaker 5 (01:28:40):
With that voice?
Speaker 6 (01:28:42):
Like the.
Speaker 3 (01:28:43):
Voice honestly, it's the voice meets Love is Blind, all right,
and all these kids are like, you know, you got
a sweet voice.
Speaker 5 (01:28:50):
We should partner up.
Speaker 3 (01:28:51):
And then there's like it just seems like a lot
of drama, and by the end of it, they make
bands and they compete against each other, so it could
be fun, Danny G.
Speaker 5 (01:28:58):
What do you got?
Speaker 1 (01:28:58):
Of course, the back to back Happies Tonight Dodgers are
in Boston in about fifteen minutes from now, the start
of the first game of that series. Uh so looking
forward to that, and I'm rich. I'm surprised you didn't
bring this up because you are sponsored by Apple TV.
We're a week away, but the trailer for this looks awesome.
(01:29:19):
Chief of War starring Jason Momoa. Oh dude, it looks
so good, looks so good.
Speaker 3 (01:29:24):
Jason Momo, who recently hosted The Ozzi Tribune. So listen
to lots of Ozzy this weekend and tribute and honor,
and no one said fantastic four. I heard Marvel's Mojo's back.
If you're going to the theater, see Pedro pascal Is
mister fantastic. Oh that's it's actually pretty good. And you
know it's a no lose from me. My bet with
Cavino for the Yankees to lose. The Yankees playing the
Philly So whoever loses, I'm in a good mood. Yankees
(01:29:47):
or Phillies.
Speaker 5 (01:29:47):
Can they both lose?
Speaker 3 (01:29:48):
I hope I will see you guys on Monday, or
even there. She may see you in the Promised Land
on the weekend. Goodbye, guys.
Speaker 5 (01:29:57):
That's a good one.
