where we celebrate twenty years of working together. You believe
that there's our cake? Can I get a ha aluia?
Can I get it? Congratulations? How about name man? Can
I get an a ward for putting up with Rich
for twenty years? Major war? Like? You're a barrel of
(00:44):
sunshine every day. But yeah, let's get twenty more. Thank
you for all your well wishes. Thanks for celebrating the
anniversary with us. We're happy to celebrate it here on
Fox Sports Radio, our favorite place to work yet, our
best landing spot FSR, C and R And you know
years took us from our twenties to our forties. Yep,
we do another twenty. You want to be six year
old guys together, Let's do it. Let's rock out. I
(01:06):
those two old guys from the Muppets. Yeah, do it. Yes,
that's not half bad. That's all bad. That's so bad.
We're broadcasting live from the tirack dot Com studio tirec
dot com. We'll help you get there in unmatched selection,
fast free shipping. Free Road has their protection over ten
thousand recommended installers. Ti iraq dot com. We tire buying
should be It's true Fox Sports Radio Nation. If you're
(01:28):
new to our show, our brand. We started twenty years
ago yesterday technically at Sirius XM. We did terrestrial radio separately.
You know, I did everything from drive the van, hanging
up manners to finally getting on air at kay Rock
New York. Rich was the nighttime hottie, a young hot
(01:48):
shot at Z one hundred. We both ended up at
Sirius XM, and we both started doing talk radio December
two thousand and four, and we did TV at sny TV.
At ESPN, we did ESPN Radio, did lots of different stuff.
We lasted at Serious Excent for fifteen sixteen plus years,
started doing our own Patreon landed at our favorite place
(02:11):
to be with the greatest team, the greatest listeners. Honestly,
twenty years later and I feel like we haven't even
peaked yet because we found the greatest gig, the greatest home,
Fox Sports Radio. That's true, not even just kissing ass.
I'm not kissing ass. It's amazing because most people when
they get to your twenty, in sports especially but in
any industry, they're on their decline. Right, I feel like
(02:33):
we're sending I feel like we're kicking ass. I still
got some juice. So let's go another twenty years, and
thanks for being part of it. And you can see
our little photo montage of else to see in our
version of Through the Years. I guess through the is
is at Covino and Rich at Covino and Rich at
Fox Sports Radio. I think back when we started, we
(02:55):
were to show you how much time is passed. For
the first five plus years of our show, we were
in partnership with Maxim like Maxim Magazine, the Men's magazine, Yeah,
Maxim Radio, River Magazines, some radio with Cavino and Ritt,
and that was the whole point of our show. The
origins were they were looking for shows and guys to
(03:17):
do Maxim Radio. Maxim which encompassed sports, comedy, entertainment, women.
It was a lifestyle brand, so we were always involved
in sports just as fans, and it led us here
but yeah, that's where we started as a talk show
on Maxim Radio. Yeah, Dandy G. I got to play
(03:38):
this for you later off the IC. We can't play
it on the air here, old dirty but no. We
found this morning just to think of how our show
has come from digging through the old seen r twenty
year old dudes being you know, clowns to just being
grown up clowns.
Speaker 2 (03:54):
Found a tape of Howard Stern cursing you guys out.
Speaker 1 (03:56):
We found the tape of when we were in our
like early twenties, we thought it would be a wise
idea to record ourselves calling our then girlfriends and breaking
it to them that the company sending us to Maximum
spring break in Mexico. Sorry, you can't come with me.
And those were the MTV party spring break days. So
(04:21):
it's basically me Rich, a bunch of Maxim hotties and
Johnny Bananas, honestly, and we had to break that news
to our girlfriends and they're like, it's oh to listen
to that audio. Now. How insensitive were we to think that, oh,
you know, if we're gonna break it to our girlfriends,
let's record it. I mean I thought we were being
smart at the time. It was good radio. Right. We
also started I don't want to say started, but it
(04:44):
is kind of true. Let's just say we were pioneers
of what became the norm, which is long form interviews,
long form radio discussions because prior to satellite radio, it
really didn't exist in that way. No, so we came
up those ranks. Like I said, we ended up on
ESPN Radio. Then a TV show on ESPN COVID happened.
(05:07):
Here we are here, we are on Fox Sports Radio.
Really is the most fun. That's the beauty of it, guys.
Even if you're struggling or you feel like you haven't
found your place. We started here what three and a
half years ago now on this journey, you know, we
finally landed at our favorite spot. And it took a
(05:28):
long time, but here we are having the best time yet.
So if you're in a rut or in a place
you feel like you don't belong, hey, maybe the best
is yet to come. Now, as Sinatra said, to make
this less about us and more of just say, you
know an interesting how the last twenty years just hold
on the wet like that I think today we're allowed
to make it about ourselves. Twenty years and days in
(05:49):
any relationship is huge, But in this industry, that's a
that's a nice slow burn because we've seen so many
people come and go. Twenty years in this industry have
brought casting and podcasting and radio. That's one hundred and
twenty years.
Speaker 2 (06:03):
I was going to say in Los Angeles this is
like a sixtieth wedding anniversary.
Speaker 1 (06:07):
Honestly, because I was doing the math and what is it?
Mike and the Mad Dog were under twenty years. Opie
and Anthony told us we wouldn't get past ten. I
remember that you guys are gonna hate each other. They
did recently Michael cam Lagreca. After twenty two years, they're separating. So, hey,
twenty years, it's been fun. Cheers to a bunch more, now,
(06:29):
cheers to another twenty Here on Fox Sports Radio. I'm
all for it, man, just for the hell. When you
love what you do, it doesn't feel like twenty years now,
just for the hell of it. Before we get into
what I thought was a pretty boring Week fifteen of
the NFL, I don't know if I'm jaded because the
Niners are out, of course you are, But what were
you really caring about? Tell me, tell me part of
the game. Danny G said it a million times. I
don't want to quote Danny G. You look for small
(06:51):
victories in your team, right, young players, their accomplishments, their
stat lines. That's small victories. That's garbage. No, because the
first half of the day, I admit it was boring
and that's when you uh cleaned up around the house
a little bit. But the second half of the day
there were some great games. I want to as part
of things that made you go, hm, that we're gonna
(07:11):
do it a little bit. I really want you to
tell me one thing about yesterday's NFL where you're like, man, oh,
so we got so many questions answered, man' that's how
I feel. I feel. We saw the Chiefs finally really
sort of I don't want to say dominating game, but
they won by more than a touchdown like the Browns.
I know, but they still won by more than a touchdown.
(07:33):
It's the first It's like, wow, they're thirteen to one.
Questions were answered, meaning the Bills look dominant over the Lions.
I know it was a closer score, but the Bills
own that game. You have clear talks of Josh Allen
being an MVP right now. People are saying he's the goat,
like we're witnessing the goat, as if Mahomes and Lamar
Jackson doesn't even exist anymore. Josh Allen's the current goat
(07:55):
if you listen to Sports Talk today.
Speaker 2 (07:57):
Yes, he scared Dan Campbell into making a horrible call.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
Yeah, but you see the Bills separating themselves as the
team to be right, dominating the Lions. You see the
Eagles showing that they're the real deal sort of, yeah,
dominating the Steelers. Stel thought that would be a closer
game the Eagles. I you know, you saw the Packers
and you called it rich, so you should be proud
of that. You saw them dominate Dan Byer Seahawks. I
thought that was gonna be a much closer game. So
(08:21):
you see these teams really proving who they are, how
good they are. Making statements over the weekend, your forty
nine ers are out, didn't mean that everyone was not
excited about But well, you know what, I still think
none of which you made some points there, but none
surprised me one percent. So we'll get to that. But
based on today being you knew the Bills were going
(08:42):
to dominate the Lions the way they did, And I
used dominate loosely. Was it forty eight to forty two
something like that, but it was if you watched the
game the Bills were winning handily. They were. Yeah. But
before we get to your NFL Week fifteen, I just
want to show you how time be a fly in.
I know Jay stew from The Gottlieb Show, nothing annoys
(09:03):
him more. Well, dude, that's the crazy part about having kids, right,
because they're a constant reminder of how fast time's flying.
You feel the same for the most part until you
look in the mirror and you see those Russell Crow's
feet that you got coming in. Rich got those Russell
and Sheryl crows feet coming in. Shut your mouth. But
then you look at your kids and you're like, damn, Like, dude,
(09:25):
I just a timestamp. I remember taking my daughter to
see Billy Eilish when she was a little kid. I
took my daughter to see Billy Eilish last night at
the Kia Forum here in LA and she's like a
full on teenager, who I'm like, are you sure you
want to wear that, you know, like she's a grown
up almost. It's crazy. So you look at them, You're like, man,
(09:45):
I guess we feel the same. But you see how
big our kids are getting. Yeah, times flying. But just
to put in perspective, there's like drones fighting orbs. Now
we're living in the future, guys. It could be part
of one big project where we are all taken over
by Ellien's planet. Bluebeam is how happened in who knows?
People are wearing silver suits, there's robots everywhere, drones. Definitely
(10:05):
living in the future. I want to just take it
back twenty years for a second, just to show you
how quickly the last two decades have gone, because twenty
years ago, the end of four, we were about to
Usher in two thousand and five. And speaking of Usher, yeah,
by Usher was the number one song of four. Does
(10:26):
that song feel twenty years old when we started our
journey as a talk show. I'm saying, you want to
take it back to the air two thousand. I know,
I want to take it back to four just for
a second. Yeah, and four And for Usher just performed
that what like a year ago at the Super Bowl,
(10:47):
and that song was like the banger of the night.
Everyone loved it. Usher and Luda and I could tell
you John wearing Rich and I were rocking some hard
bootcut jeans and we would cut the bottoms because they
would phrase so much. They'd cut the bottoms of your
boot cut jeans. You'd wear some shoes from Aldough, a
real sweet button down that you got from Men's Express,
(11:08):
some sort of graphic tea which led to like Affliction
and brands like that, but some weird graphic tea. I said,
something cool on it with Florida Lee's all over it.
You had that that very specific two thousands haircut where
you combed it down in the front, but you lifted
it up and right a little bit, a little wall
(11:28):
right there, and you know, so it was a very
specific time in the early two thousands. This picture of
picture Dane Cook. Everyone dressed like that, Yeah, pretty much,
bootcut jeans and a tight graphic T shirt. But just
to put in perspective, where were we in the sports
world and the entertainment world in four twenty years ago
when you and I first started working together. And again
for everyone just to realize how quick twenty years have gone.
(11:51):
The biggest movies twenty years ago Anchorman. Oh great, Odin
Craven you had, We've been quoting it for. You had Dodgeball.
Speaker 3 (12:02):
Here, Joe Spi the only place for Steve.
Speaker 1 (12:06):
You had Mean Girls, you had fifty first dates. American
Idol was still huge. You mean I was in love
with Rachel McAdams for twenty something years ago. True? Man, Wow,
Desperate Housewives remember like Wisteria Lane and your mom watch
that show, probably know it's crazy. Mean Girls came out
twenty years ago and Lindsay Lohan looks younger now than
she did. That's true. I don't know how that happened,
(12:26):
and the number one show twenty years ago, because it
feels like it just came in with right. Remember House,
that's crazy that Doctor Houser one show, Doctor House. Season
one of House came out twenty years ago, and it
was the most watched show right around the time when
we started our show. When we started our show, we
were two months removed from the Red Sox breaking the
(12:48):
Curse and winning the two thousand and four World Series. Yeah,
I'd like to forget about that, but yeah, that was
that was what we were talking about. And people are
probably thinking, Yo, Kaven Owner's been doing for twenty years
and they're still the youngest in the game. How do
they do it? I'll say this, hitting the gym once
in a while and dyeing your hair. Yeah, that's really
(13:09):
I attribute all my longevity to just Vatos, just for
men with the Mexican guy on the cover. And let
me hit you up with one more thing. If you
want to go back twenty years. It was right around
the time Tom Brady and the Pats had won Super
Bowl number two and they were about to try to
win their third under Belichick and Tom Brady. We were
(13:29):
about a month away twenty years ago from when Donovan
McNabb ran out of steam against the Patriots in the
Super Bowl that was in Jacksonville, Florida. Dan byru were
you at that Super Bowl in Jacksonville? I feel like that, adb.
This is also really when we started to solidify ourselves
as the ultimate sports fans, right because our affiliation with
(13:51):
Maxim magazine it was sports related, so they would send
us to all these Super Bowl events and big sporting
events to cover the lifestyle aspect of the game. Because
a lot of people might not even think about it
this way, but anytime there's a big All Star week
coming up, or a big super Bowl coming up. It's
not just the game that people are hyped about. It's
all the parties in fun leading up to it, and
(14:13):
all the superstars come out, all the athletes come out,
they come to party. We were there to cover that
aspect of it. That was our original role there and
that was our tie into the sports world. So I
remember going to all those games and all those parties.
It was a lot of fun.
Speaker 3 (14:25):
I would even say that when you guys were doing it,
it seemed like it was on the rise. I think
that it has peaked in a sense, kind of come
back a little bit.
Speaker 1 (14:33):
But agreed.
Speaker 3 (14:34):
You know, there was probably a decade ago, fifteen years
ago it was the thing on those Thursday, Friday and Saturdays.
Speaker 1 (14:41):
It has slowed down significantly. You know, a party, the
Rolling Stone Party. Obviously we were there for the Maxim Party,
Boy Party Party, all these parties leading up to the
super Bowl. That was just as much fun. Honestly, the parties,
the parties cover the parties. I want to make that
very but Rich, you're right, I mean, this is again
(15:04):
we're celebrating twenty years of Caffino and Rich, so we're
just trying to give you a time stamp of where
we were. This is pre social media. Guys. We were
putting girls in our MySpace top eight and that wasn't
even happening yet. That wasn't even happening quite yet. We
still had a friends to page, So this, this predates
any social media. There's no podcasting. There was no drone Wars,
(15:26):
none of that. So, hey, think about where you were
twenty years ago. I would say, no podcasting, especially in
our world and people listening right now. That's a huge
one because you think about how much it changed, like
all of a sudden, what we were doing as a
career became everyone's hobby or goal all of a sudden,
Like I feel like what we chose to do is
what made us a little unique, all of us here, Hey,
(15:47):
we're gonna work in radio and people, Yeah, good luck
with that. And then all of a sudden you realized
fifteen twenty years later everybody secretly wanted to do this
because now there's podcasts everywhere.
Speaker 2 (15:59):
Yeah, and companies were sending us samples of everything. We
were the real influencers.
Speaker 1 (16:04):
I'll be honest. Before influencers, radio and broadcasters got way
more perks there's no doubt they get the things. They
still work a little harder for exact not automatic. But anyway,
what else twenty hey, twenty years ago, I wasn't a dad,
you know, I wasn't. I wasn't thinking that we'd be
(16:26):
doing this twenty years later. I didn't know. No, But
that's how fast things change, guys. Yeah, so enjoy it
hopefully another twenty But just think for a minute today,
not even about us, but think about where were you
twenty years ago and where life took you from then.
Because that was our first show. I never would have
thought twenty years later, we sitting at Fox Sports in
our first interview as a show, just for a timestamp
(16:49):
was Lenny Kravitz, And who would think twenty years later
he'd still be really still ripped.
Speaker 2 (16:53):
Yeah, and he still looks great. You know what's crazy? Rich,
In another twenty years, one soda will still be on
your match.
Speaker 1 (17:00):
You know I thought about that. You know you're gonna
be like, is that Bartolo cologne or one soda? That's funny, Yeah,
you're still gonna be paying Bobby Bonilla. All done. I've
known you for twenty years doing a show together. We've
known each other longer. But we've been doing a show
together for twenty years. But let's say roughly, I've known
Covino twenty years. Yeah, between the two of us, we've
(17:22):
only seen one championship. Your O nine Yankees, that's true.
My Mets haven't won, and my forty nine Ers haven't won.
None of our colleges have won anything. So the reality
is in the next twenty years, I'd like to think
we're due maybe get a Mets World Series in there,
maybe a nine or Super within those twenty years. Though,
you've seen curses, curses broke. As you said, the Red Sox,
(17:42):
people forget These people forget not only the Red Sox
and the Cubs. Why do people downplay the White Sox?
The five White Sox broke equally, like as long of
a curse. Pretty much.
Speaker 2 (17:54):
I just realized Lebron has been playing the entire time
you guys have been broadcasting together.
Speaker 1 (17:59):
No, I think about that a lot. That's why when
Tom Brady retired too, that was a bit of a
timestamp for us because we felt like throughout our entire
show and it's run, it was always Tom was always
Tom Brady. We were always talking. We'd even see him
at like maxim parties and events. It's like Tom Brady
tom Brady, and when he retired, you're like, dang. Honestly,
it's when Lebron retires, it will be an odd one
(18:22):
for people that have been you know, let's be honest,
like adults of the last twenty years because your whole
adult life, guys like Tom Brady and Lebron. I felt
that way when Geter retired and when Tom Brady retired,
and when Lebron retires, it will be no think about it.
When you and I first started doing our show together,
Lebron James was the young hotshot kid on the Cavs
(18:42):
and we're like, yeah, Lebron James, he's gonna be the
Nick Jordan. But you know, and we've watched the last
twenty years unfold, dude, The Sopranos was still running when
we were doing our show. That's wild we were talking about.
That's the other funny timestamp. It's like our show ran
the course of we're talking about this Pranos, we're talking
about the Jersey Shore, you're talking about True Blood, talking
(19:05):
about Walking Dead like whatever it was hot at the time.
Those are the guests we were having on our shows.
Same thing with athletes. Every year. Whoever was the hot
guy at the time in sports was the guy we
would have on our show. Think about the even like
the technology part of things, right, Like, if you are
our age, if you're roughly in your forties, your adult
(19:25):
life is the last twenty years, right, last twenty years
is pretty much your adult life. When you think of
how social media has been intertwined with the NBA, NFL,
every time an athlete has some type of shenanigans, we
always go to social media all what's going on Twitter
or Instagram or TikTok. Back then, these guys had flip phones.
Like think of the early days of Lebron and the
(19:47):
days we're talking about the early two thousands, Lebron James
probably had a Star Tech in the Cavs locker room,
maybe a Nokia brick phone. Do Do Do Do Do Do?
Here's playing Snake during halftime. So hey on vers, every buddy,
Happy anniversar, right, and thank you guys for you know,
hanging with us and making us feel stress. Hey, let's
get into week fifteen of the NFL next plus, we're
(20:09):
gonna play the Last One Standing, everyone's favorite trivia game.
That gives you the nervous stomach. Got to come up
with answers on the spot. So we'll play last one
Standing and give away some swiggies. Plus Week fifteen of
the NFL. I need you to convince me what you
really got out of this week, because I have observations,
but nothing to me was really telling it all. We'll
(20:30):
explain all your observations next. Right here on Fox Sports Radio,
we're Cavino and Rich celebrating twenty years and we're not
weatherman on TV, but we've been on TV in those
twenty ways. You know the weathermin We're both from the
East Coast and can give you a winter forecast. How
about that snow and ice are coming. It'll be driving

(21:44):
but I'm kind of a big deal, right, really happy
twenty years to CNR, Coveno and Rich. Twenty years together
as a show again, one hundred and twenty years in
radio years right and proud to be part of the
premier sports lineup in the nation Fox Sports Radio. We
hung with the Fox Sports Radio family over the weekend.
(22:06):
Yeah branch is gingerbread holiday party. Let me tell you so,
it's fun partying with the wild guy saying right there,
this guy's crazy crazy. So I had a good time
partying with the fam and much Leftmark Fox Sports Radio
family to yours right now. We're live from the ti
Raq dot com studio. Reminder that Rapid radios are an
instant pushed to talkualkie talkies offering national LTE coverage for
(22:29):

communication device for kids. We use them on the show.
Go to rapid radios dot com now. Rapid Radio up
to sixty percent off and free shipping. Great holiday gift
for the kids, the outdoors people, the older people in
your family. Rapid radios dot com. Now. We talked about
(22:49):
our career in twenty years, how long we've been doing it.
But over the weekend, besides all the celebrating, we had
some pretty decent football rich you say no, but there
will still take still takeaways? Is rich? Just sadur because
it's forty nine ers think possible. Let's go to the
phones at eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox. We
do it every Monday. Things that make you go hmmm,
(23:12):
things that make you go, things that make your goal.
Now we're gonna play last one standing. We still got
lots to get to, but we gotta discuss things you
witnessed in the world of sports, especially football or in life,
doesn't matter anything that made you say hmmm over the
weekend eight seven to seven ninety nine on Fox. I mean,
like I said, the early games, what excuse to dip away?
(23:35):
And like, I don't know, get a brunch with your
wife or girlfriend or someone, because the early games what
intrigued you? The Ravens stomping the Giants? Did that really
do we learn anything there?
Speaker 2 (23:45):
Well, a lot of people did gamble on that game,
so they were happy making sure, yeah, that the Ravens
scored enough points.
Speaker 1 (23:51):
I mean the Jets and Aaron Rodgers like, yeah, too little,
too late in the season, you know, cool moment for
Devonte Adams. He had a huge game. But again, like
against the Jags late in the season, two terrible teams
messing up their draft position. I wanted to see if
Drew Locke was going to come out and play in
his boot? Did you see that? I was like, Oh,
Drew lock lo was gonna come out and play in
his boot if Tommy DeVito's not gonna work out. The
(24:13):
Panthers are somehow favored over the Cowboys that there were
a lot of people that bet on the Cowboys and
underdogsy kidding they stopped the Panthers, Commanders just got by
the Saints. Again. These are games that I, I don't
know what you were excited about.
Speaker 2 (24:27):
That was an exciting game at the very end in
the clock magically froze too.
Speaker 1 (24:31):
At the very end that I gave. In the early
portion of the day, I was I was cleaning up,
sweeping up, but I had the games and I had
red zone on doing my thing, and I guess I
went into the bathroom to sweep up or whatever, and
Danny g hit me up, like, YO, did you see
what jay Jonathan Taylor was the biggest slob of the
There's still stories maybe I mean that we're not at
(24:52):
cult fans have to be. Yeah. It makes you say hmm,
because you're like, how after watching all of these low
lights and sports we've seen this happen before, all these
blunders and bloopers, how do you still make that mistake?
Why does that happen? I have as I have the
answer because I've thought about it in depth. But to
(25:13):
wrap up those early games, the only big takeaway I
had from the early set of games on Sunday was
that Mahomes injury. They don't know the extent it seems
like he's going to be fine, but that just does
that mean he plays next week? Does that mean he's
not one hundred percent?
Speaker 2 (25:29):
And have to ask him when he's in on the
show tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (25:31):
We'll find out tomorrow. Well, you got to ask yourself,
Danny is the bigger question at thirteen and one and
winning games in every way possible, they just find ways
to win. At thirteen and one, do you look at
the Chiefs as vulnerable at all to let that one
seed slip away? Or no way in hell? Because there
(25:52):
are two games up now in that conference, right, but
if Mahomes is a little banged up, they play the Texans,
the Steelers, and the Broncos, And if you look at it,
those are three AFC postseason teams. Three they they end
the season against three teams that will be in the playoffs,
so it's essentially three mild playoff games.
Speaker 2 (26:15):
Yeah, their defense is strong enough. Carson Wentz is a
decent backup, but they'd have to drop two.
Speaker 1 (26:20):
Of those games otherwise they just cruise to the one seed. Right.
It's it is what it is. Does Mahomes even play
the final couple games to even do it just depends
how hrd. He is, like, what's the if you were
the Chiefs, is there even a reason to start Mahomes
next week at all?
Speaker 2 (26:37):
Even if you try keeping that guy off the field.
Speaker 1 (26:40):
But I'm saying, with two games up in the conference,
I would say it's a perfect time to give him
a rest. But again, it all depends on how hurt
he is. I don't know that yet. Again, maybe we
get the inside scoop tomorrow when we do some show
time Mahomes trivia here on the show. But his stop was,
nothing's broke, I'm just sore. So you could drop a game, right,
You could drop a game and still be ahead of Buffalo.
(27:05):
You just can't drop two because they have the tiebreaker.
But you like, why on Earth at this stage of
the game would you push Mahomes? Why not just say hey,
even if you're a little banged up, might be a
good one, a good one to sit out. Especially, why
do you want the Texans even get a look at
them when they may face them in the opening round
for all we know.
Speaker 3 (27:22):
This is why the funky schedule is really coming into
the picture, because to Rich to your point, if it
was a normal week, yeah, maybe they would play on
a Saturday and then the next week would be a Sunday.
You normally aren't playing on that Thursday, especially if you're
one of these teams. Yep, they would have a full week.
You'd play on a Sunday or Monday in week seventeen.
But because of the Christmas Day schedule and playing on
(27:45):
that Wednesday, it really does put them in a tight spot.
Speaker 1 (27:48):
They play on a Saturday and a Wednesday.
Speaker 3 (27:52):
Yes, all the teams that plan Saturday this weekend will
be playing on Christmas Day.
Speaker 1 (27:57):
It's wild to think that that turnaround. I'm like, why
would you even again? You almost want to you know,
sometimes in the baseball playoffs, if the bulk pen game
works out, good for you. But sometimes it's like, yeah,
that's almost to give me because we're saving our ace
philt for tomorrow. Yeah, you need recovery time. Dude, scrape
(28:17):
by one of the pick and chews, like, which game
do you want my home? Do you want my home
to play on Christmas Day? Then give him a break.
Speaker 2 (28:23):
Let him stay at home with his family. He wasn't
a fan of the schedule when it came out, remember,
because he wanted to be with his family on Christmas Day.
Speaker 1 (28:30):
Yeah, I just can't see even if he is like, yeah,
I'm fine, you're a little banged up, Like you know,
if he's gonna play two games within four or five
days around the holidays when they're thirteen and one. Obviously,
recovery is always a factor. It's the NFL, right, But
I always think about I just I don't know to
meet it resonated. I think about what George Kittle said
about his recovery. He said, just imagine every weekend getting
(28:53):
in a car accident. He's like, that's what the recovery's like. Yeah,
you're banged up everywhere. So you're banged up that much,
and you're and you're banging helmets and getting banged up.
Speaker 2 (29:02):
Everything about Mahomes he's one of those dudes where every
time we think he's gonna go stand on the sideline
because he's injured, he bounces right back.
Speaker 1 (29:09):
He bounces right back again. You know that Saturday to
Wednesday is that's a tough recovery time. Dare I say
this because it could be insensitive, but you know how
sometimes people exaggerate something to make it look like they're
more heroic. There's gotta be a little bit of that
in Patrick Mahomes game. Oh, like Daniel LaRusso and his
(29:30):
stupid leg, Like Daniel Lewis is gonna fight. Yeah, mister Miyagi,
he was fine the whole time. Everybody, Yeah, Daniel Lruisa
was gonna fight regardless. My theory is he did it
just electromatic, like you know when your girlfriend accidentally or
your wife accidentally, like you're wrestling and fooling around that
she knees you and you're like, oh, you like play
it up a little bit, You play it up just
to get that sympathy love. I know he's talking about
Like I almost feel like there are times where Mahomes
(29:51):
gives a little extra hobble just so when he comes
back in the game, we're all like, oh my god,
Mahomes is unstoppable. Like if you look here, listen the
bravery again. Just other people don't get my words twisted.
I'm just saying there's making drama show. All I'm saying
is that I think there's one percent. The other ninety
nine percent is that he's a baller and a competitor
in the man. But I promise you this one percent
(30:14):
where Mahomes like, yeah, IM gonna put ale extra actual limp,
little extra limp on so that is the heroical Yeah. Yeah,
he's giving the fans something to cheer for, the commentator
something to talk about. My homes with an extra limp
and his step. But he's out, but he's out there.
Come on, give me a break. It does after the story. Now,
(30:36):
let's get to Dan Bay for an update. And then
you brought up Jonathan Taylor. I have a theory. We've
talked about it, but it's very clear what's up dB.
Speaker 3 (30:45):
Guys, my son was playing t Rex Dinosaur last night
and bit me, and you would have thought I was
struck by lightning.
Speaker 1 (30:52):
Od Way.
Speaker 3 (30:52):
I reacted, Yeah, five seconds later, it didn't hurt anymore,
but I was really embarrassed with my initial reaction of
the You.
Speaker 1 (31:00):
Had to play it out.
Speaker 3 (31:00):
Yeah, you guys mentioned it. Patrick Mahomes considered week to
week with that mild high ankle sprain. Not the only
Chiefs note. Clyde Edwards lera ounce today. He's been released
by the team. Was their first round pick a few
years ago. Running back has gone through some other things
as of late, but the Chiefs let Ceh go today.
(31:21):
The Lions lost running back David Montgomery for the rest
of the season, he'll need surgery to repair the torn
MCL on his knee, while Seahawks said coach Mike McDonald
told seven ten AM in Seattle that Gino Smith was
optimistic he'd be able to play on Sunday in Week
sixteen against the Vikings after leaving last night's game against
the Packers with a knee injury. The Niners suspended linebacker
Devondre Campbell for the final three regular season games for
(31:42):
conduct detrimental to the team for failing to enter in
the third quarter of last Thursday's game against the Rams.
We brought up the Deontay Johnson situation with the Ravens
now He's served as one game suspension yesterday against the Giants,
but the Ravens and Johnson have both mutually agreed that
he'd be excused from team activities in weeks sixteen, so
his future with the team right now is in doubt.
(32:03):
Wake Forest head coach Dave claus And stepping down after
eleven seasons, Penn State quarterback Drew Aller announced that he'll
return to Happy Valley for a senior season in twenty
twenty five, while Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter was first
Team All American at cornerback and at the all purpose position,
and then second Team All American at wide receiver. The
Heisman Trophy runner up was Ashton Genty of Boise State.
(32:25):
He was the only unanimous selection as the running back
was placed on the first team. Finally, guys, The Virginia
Pilot reports at former NFL star Michael Vick has interviewed
for the head coaching vacancy at Norfolk State, while Sacramento
State is also talking to VIC about their head coaching vacancy.
Speaker 1 (32:41):
Follow us back to you, Thanks d B, Thank you,
d Ben. I thought about it more. Every athlete probably
plays it up a little bit here and there at times,
because otherwise, why would Kirk Chilling not have changed his sock.
It adds to the legend, right, and legend becomes fact.
You print athlete gets cut up sliding. Is it cooler
(33:04):
that when this blood running down is a baseball pant
leg or if he like change his pants in between
innings just anthon a drama show, it looks like a
baller and a player. Mahomes is the ultimate competitor, so
I do think there are times where he'll put an
extra little hobble in a step to show like I'm
such the man I'm coming back out there, makes you
say hmmm. So your feedback and phone calls, your observations
(33:26):
from this weekend in life, in sports and entertainment, and
especially the NFL. We're gonna get to your feedback and
phone calls next. And then I have an observation about
Rich's which is holiday party too, that I made and
I'll share with you here on Fox Sports Radio. Now,
the Jonathan Taylor thing, let me explain, and then we'll
take all your feedback. It's simple. It's simple as could be. It.
(33:52):
We've seen this happen so many times where a guy
drops the ball crossing the goal line. No one had
a post game we'll ever ask the question, you know why,
because it's truly embarrassing, because the answer is could only
be one thing. I was showing off and it was
a major fail. Because there's no other reason why a
(34:14):
play would ever drop a ball as they crossed the
goal line unless the motive was I beat you on
the play, I outran you. It's a ball version of
turning around before the strike or turning around before the
three point and the three point shot didn't go in.
It's the equivalent you left the ten pin up but
(34:35):
you were certain you had the strike. It's the equivalent
of a pitcher taking that first step or two towards
the dugout thinking I got him on the breaking ball
in the umpire's okay. It's so embarrassing because you wonder
what did people do it? And how come they're never
questioned about it. That's the reason we'll talk about it
more next and more of your observations Week fifteen of
the NFL Next right here in Covin and rich Now,
(34:57):
you all know we love to take this show on
the row. We love football, we love travel, and when
you're in those college towns, you know, we love staying
at Graduate by Hilton, got it? Do Graduate know it?
Their hotels are made for fans. We just stayed at
their new one in Auburn, Alabama, and my goodness, the women,
I'm sorry, the hotel was amazing, amazing and the women
(35:18):
were beautiful. Alabama. What's going on? It's game day every
day in Graduate hotels. We've been to five of their locations.
They're all unique to the city. They pay homage to
your university. The campus is right there, it's beautiful. So
if you get a chance to say a graduate hotel
right now, stays are up to twenty percent off if
you want to do this at participating graduate hotels. So
(35:40):
go to Graduate by Hilton dot com, check out all
their locations, book your stay and let me say it again,
Rich is a creep. I mean, up to twenty percent
off your stay when you book by January fifth. Go
to Graduate by Hilton dot com. Happy Holidays from Cavino
and Rich and happy annivers Street to us. Twenty years
(36:01):
of CNR and Fox Sports three dominations, Like twenty years.
I don't even know these guys because we've only been
here for three and a half. Yeah, and hey, listen
when you're on Serious XAM, which we were for years.
If you don't have satellite, yeah, what do you know
about that? Right? I mean, it's like it's a little
bubble in a way. So, hey, welcome to Coveno on
(36:21):
Rich on Fox Sports Radio. Now, the things that made
you go hm Week fifteen of the NFL. The thing
you brought up about Jonathan Taylor, It's so obvious to me.
It's it's embarrassing on the ultimate level. That's why broadcasters
and journalists really don't ask about it because the answer
(36:44):
is embarrassing. Right. It's like remember on Love Is Blond
Danny J when that dufish caveman looking guy got caught
red handed like he had a girlfriend when he went
on the show. Yeah, and when he went to the reunion,
he just sat there like, what do you want me
to say? You like, I was so starty cheating on
my girl and I went on reality show to get famous.
(37:04):
What more do you want me to say? What do
you really think the athlete's gonna say? I beat the
guy off the tackle. I had him. I was faster
and in a cocky way. I dropped the ball as
like a mic drop, as like you said, a three pointer,
It's like the exclamation point. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (37:22):
The problem is this was more important than a three
pointer in an NBA game, all of swaggy p the
Colts were about to run away and take a twenty
to seven lead at this point of the game. They
lost all focus. All those points came off the board.
Jonathan Taylor is getting pep talks from all his teammates
on the sideline. He's telling him that's on me. They
(37:44):
get back out there and unfortunately Mims Junior runs back
a kick for sixty yards and puts the Broncos in
great field position. And then when Richardson gets the ball
back in his hands, he throws a really bad interception.
Speaker 1 (37:57):
That's a pick six. So they will Yeah, they unraveled.
Speaker 2 (38:01):
They would have been in control of a game they
desperately needed to win.
Speaker 1 (38:05):
On a trick. Play that went wrong was so like
you saw it happening. Saw you saw the defender on
the Broncos break towards the It was like the lateral,
lateral like pass across the field, like that whole deal.
Speaker 2 (38:18):
This is from Indy's Beat Reporter today. Take a listen
the Colts. No, I'm just going to read what he wrote.
The Colts were playing their biggest game of the season
and had the luxury of playing the team with whom
they're competing with for the final AFC playoff spot.
Speaker 1 (38:33):
And again they were winning. Broncos ended up scoring twenty
one points in the fourth quarter thirty one thirteen. But
it all started with that play.
Speaker 2 (38:41):
We do have audio, by the way, it's Jonathan Taylor
talking about it.
Speaker 1 (38:44):
Well, you know what, it's rares. You never really hear
guys talk about these blunders. Because it really is embarrassing.
Speaker 2 (38:52):
Is it a lack of concentration thing, just a subconscious
kind of lack of concentration.
Speaker 1 (38:55):
Yeah, and well you know you go over those scenarios,
but it just can't happen no matter the game, No
matter the scenario. You could be up by fifty, down
by fifty, playoff game, first game of the season. That
should never happen, and again you're gonna lose. While he
did address it, he really didn't in that clip, and
I'll tell you why because the reality is, if the
reporter wanted to be a real d it was like,
(39:17):
no so. But honestly, Jonathan, why why did you drop
the ball? Because that was hot dogging? Man? Is that
what you want? Because the answer really is, yo, bro,
I was hot dogging. See the defender, I burnt them?
He was I burned four defenders. I got speed sucker.
And then, as a show off move, because I was
trying to be a hot dog show boat, I dropped
the ball. Is that what you want to hear? Again?
(39:38):
You said, it's like the famous like putting your hands
up for a three pointer and then a clank off
the rim or the pitcher who thinks he got him
on a breaking ball, he takes three steps toward the
dugout and the umpires like ball. It's Embarison. As a
kid who used the bowl growing up, Bowling was fun
when we were kids, right my dad would teach me
the ball, and anytime I hit one in the pocket,
(40:00):
right in the pocket, my dad would be like, turn around,
and I'd be like, why, I want to see it,
because that was the extra flare you would add to
the game if you turn around because you're so confident
you knew you to a strike even then you just
turn around. So that's his like, that's just the confidence
working against you. It's when keeping it real goes wrong.
I pull the al Bundy, which is even a step further.
(40:21):
If I'm bowling, I get up there first. I do
my Fred Flintstone twinkle toes. If I feel like I'm
hitting the pocket, not only do I start turning around,
I do like a like a like a Joe Montana
to Jerry Rice's touchdown fist pump like a bah like
yeah you punch it. Yeah, you gotta punch that. I
(40:43):
turn around, like punch you're punching down there from kingpin? Yeah,
if there's one pin that's still wobbling. You gotta punch it.
That's what really knocks it down. So again, I'm not
breaking the glass on anything. It just you realize they
they're never really explained in these scenarios because it would
be it would be I was adding my person little
flare to it and it worked against me. And I
(41:03):
want to say that Jonathan Telly, you're one of the
most elite running backs. The most he could say is like, yeah,
you know, you got to stay focused. I guess the
reality is, dude, I got caught up and I was
showboating and it went horribly wrong and change momentum of
the whole game, and I'm so sorry. All right, So
you know what, we could talk more about the later
games next and things that made you go, oh, you
(41:24):
know what, josh Andy, Sean, everyone, we have a whole
bank of phones, so we'll take your feedback all your
observations from week fifteen. Was it week fifteen or am
I just a bitter forty nine Ers fan because I
thought the early games lackluster and the late games. There's
a few telling things, but we'll get to all of
your NFL action coming up. As we said before, we're
(41:45):
getting ready for a lot of football condensed in the
next week and a half because of Saturday games, Christmas games, everything,
So buckle up, buttercups, more, NFL, CNR right here, Fox
Sports Radio. Let's go.
