A happy Friendsgiving. Yes, it rolls on, it never stops.
Thirty two years, there's something like that and running Aaron
Torres and I have been with you on Fox Sports
Radio on Thanksgiving. It's a friends Giving erin Torres. It's
great that you're stuck around. I know you're in Vegas.
There's a lot to do there in Sin City. But
(00:42):
you wouldn't miss another friends Giving for the world.
Speaker 1 (00:45):
I would not miss a Friendsgiving for the world. I
will admit I will have to miss Black Fridays Giving tomorrow,
so I'm gonna miss you. But it's great to be here.
Great to be here. And a lot of sports. I mean,
that's the fun thing. I know, we'll talk about it
maybe here in a minute or two. But no shortage
of stuff to have on the multiple TVs around the
(01:06):
friends Giving compound here.
Speaker 3 (01:08):
It's great to always get together and do this find
Aaron on ex at Aaron Underscore Tours. You can find
me at Dan Bayern Fox. We've already had the friends here,
I mean Ian Roddy is our executive producer. Ian. Great
to have you in. Hello, I'm happy to be here.
That's so far, so good on this friends Giving. Ryan Smith,
our technical producer. Ryan, I know your hands have been
(01:28):
full not only with turkey and stuffing, but also running
things on this friends giving. And alwas wine that Monsy brought.
Thanks Monty and Monty Bilanios is here at at the
news desk.
Speaker 4 (01:38):
You're welcome, You're welcome. We should all be celebrating.
Speaker 3 (01:41):
I just been watching on CBS the guy from meat
Church is presented a turkey to Jim Nansen Tony Romo.
You look kind of small compared to the ted duck
in that they had on Fox. It was, but there
was a nice golden meat Church is a very popular
brand in the barbering community. And I don't know the
(02:02):
guy's name, but I meet Church seasonings in my cupboard
as we as we speak. But he just presented them
with a turkey. Who brought the turkey to our friendsgiving today?
Speaker 1 (02:12):
Maybe forfet customized Jersey.
Speaker 3 (02:14):
Yeah, Chris Phfett, maybe Chris Gordi will all not to say.
Speaker 2 (02:17):
I think he's going to be bringing it.
Speaker 3 (02:19):
Our buddy from Sports Talk seven to ninety in Houston,
also locked on SEC. Will fill us in and what's
happening in the SEC and specifically what's happening with Lsu,
Lane Kiffen and Ole miss In that whole deal. But
we're going to talk with Chris in about twenty minutes.
Hopefully he's stopping by. I got his ETA on the
Friends Giving and he said about twenty three minutes from now,
So something to look forward to. It is Covino and
(02:42):
Rich here on Fox Sports Radio. But it's our Friends
Giving with Aaron Torres and myself. Chiefs Cowboys seven seven ballgame.
As Monti told you, Dallas answered the contest against the Chiefs,
and I would assume that there are living rooms everywhere where.
Maybe they've already eaten the Thanksgiving dinner on the East
Coast and are sitting back and watching this football game.
(03:06):
This brings up an interesting conundrum because I don't like
watching sports with other people. Sure, I am not a
fan of that at all. I'm curious on your guys'
thoughts on this, especially if my team is playing. I
am not a fan of watching it with really anybody.
(03:30):
Like I think I'd rather just be in a closet
by myself and watch the game and appreciate it and
soak it in that way. My wife and son are there,
I have no problem with that. But outside of that,
I really don't want to watch sports with other people.
But I think that changes on Thanksgiving.
Speaker 1 (03:50):
So I actually agree with you one hundred percent. So one,
I'm not a big watch sports with other people because
I think, you know, for people who aren't following, like,
we just have a responsibility, right, Like you know, if
we mess up the fourth down call or the whatever,
like somebody will tweet at us or call in or say, hey,
(04:10):
it wasn't Rashid Rice who caught the fourth down catch,
it was Savior Worthy. Oh my god, do you even
know football? And so it's like I feel that to
me is more than anything, is that I have an
obligation to the audience when I come on air. I
think being a national radio host, I think, as you know, Dan,
like you know, we could be talking about just about anything,
and certainly games of these magnitude we will be talking
(04:33):
about for days to come. And so as a general rule,
I'm totally with you. I prefer just to kind of
watching the quiet of my own home. I'm not a
big sports bar guy any of that. Uh, but Thanksgiving
it does feel different. You know, everybody rallies around the football.
You know, not just the games themselves, but the conversations.
You know, for years it was the Lions being so
(04:55):
bad that it was pretty good. Now it's whatever, and
you know, the cowboy whatever. So the only point I'm
trying to make I agree with you one hundred percent. Love,
love what we get to do. But because of it,
I don't watch sports very often with others. But today
is one of the few exceptions that I'm happy.
Speaker 3 (05:12):
In my Thanksgiving. It was a everybody was getting together.
So there are family members you may have not seen
since the last Thanksgiving. Sure, and you get them all together.
But if it wasn't Thanksgiving, I would not want to
watch football with these people. Not that I don't like
my own family, It's just I don't need all the noise.
I don't need all the hubbub. I don't need to
know what Joe's thoughts are on Dak Prescott and not
(05:35):
that I'm a know at all or you're a know
at all, But nothing annoys me more than people just
giving out wrong stats on stuff. And then I don't
want to correct my cousin who is saying the wrong thing,
because then I look like the jerk that is correcting
a family relative on Thanksgiving about a meaningless football stat.
(05:56):
And it's just it's a slippery slope. There's a lot
of biting of the tongue of on those games as well,
but I can appreciate it at least on Thanksgiving. I
don't know if it's the hot dog at the ballpark
where it tastes one hundred times better when you're sitting
there watching a game and eating a Dodger dog at
Dodger Stadium or a Fenway Frank at Fenway Park, but
(06:18):
that's the way it is. I can maybe put up
with it on Thanksgiving, but the other three hundred and
sixty four days I cannot. Manci Bilanios, no.
Speaker 4 (06:27):
I go out all the time.
Speaker 3 (06:28):
You are a you are a people.
Speaker 5 (06:29):
I am I am, but there are times I understand
what you guys are saying. Because there are times like
during the NBA playoffs and the Clippers are playing, I
don't want to go to a bar because I'm going
to get Buddha and I be like, oh, you a
Clipper fan. So at that point I stay home. But
typically I'm always like, where are we gonna watch the game?
Speaker 3 (06:49):
Will?
Speaker 1 (06:49):
Okay?
Speaker 3 (06:50):
Let me let me say this, let me post this
to you. You go to a Clippers only bar.
Speaker 1 (06:54):
No, I don't know.
Speaker 3 (06:55):
No, I'm just as hypothetical. Oh okay, it's a hypothetical situation.
You go to a Clippers only bar and they're all
Clippers fans, so you're all cheering for the same team.
But doesn't it annoy you when someone's like, yes, yes,
James Harden, like quit shooting James Harden.
Speaker 5 (07:12):
Yes, yes, And so I don't Again, it's in the
playoffs where it's like, I think I'd rather just be
at home and like be able to curse at the
TV on my own free will you know what I'm saying?
Speaker 4 (07:22):
And I can't do that in public.
Speaker 1 (07:23):
But it's only when I.
Speaker 5 (07:24):
Get to, like the playoffs, where the game is a
little bit more important.
Speaker 4 (07:28):
If it's like a regular game or like a team
that I don't care.
Speaker 5 (07:31):
About, I'll be like, yeah, where are we going let's
do it shots.
Speaker 3 (07:35):
That's me. Let's me. Do you like establishments or other
people's places, like, come on over the game.
Speaker 5 (07:46):
My friends who don't care about sports pretend to care
about sports for me, and we'll they'll throw parties, like
pretending they care.
Speaker 3 (07:51):
It's great.
Speaker 4 (07:52):
So I'm going to discriminate.
Speaker 1 (07:53):
You're like this Clippers Pelicans game on a Tuesday is huge.
Speaker 5 (07:56):
Oh yes, any excuse to gather and look pretty and
drink will do it.
Speaker 3 (08:01):
But that has less to do about the game.
Speaker 4 (08:04):
It's true. It's true for them. For me, I'm watching
the game.
Speaker 3 (08:08):
There are saturdays that I don't shower, so like, so
like I don't want to see people, or I'm just
like I wake up, like my step thing on my
phone is like eight right, and like it's downstairs and
that's like to the couch, and so like there's there's
times where I'm like, Okay, I'm in no shape to
even see anybody right now, because it's just I've been
(08:29):
sitting back and watching football. But when you're actively like
going out, you're liking the atmosphere of it, where I
think in those situations, I sometimes feel that the game
becomes secondary.
Speaker 5 (08:42):
Sure, and that's why the ones that are important, I
probably won't do it, so yes, I agree. And I
also can't stand the person next to me at the
bar that's giving wrong information.
Speaker 3 (08:51):
Yes, that is one of the.
Speaker 5 (08:52):
Most annoying things, and you're just like, I'm not gonna
I'm not gonna correct this stranger, right.
Speaker 1 (08:59):
No, Well, dance point like at Thanksgiving is everybody you
know knows peripherally a little bit about you, and oh
you work in sports and blah blah blah blah blah.
Then you become the elitist. That's like, you know, uh,
it's it's not Rashard Rice, it's Rashi Rice, you know.
And then and then you yeah, so then you're the
(09:19):
elitist jerk at Thanksgiving, Like at least at the bar,
it's like, you know, not that you would correct somebody
at the bar, But that's the tough part about being
around friends and families, just when they're giving out terrible
sports information and sports takes. You can't be the elitist
because then it's like, oh, God, okay, I guess we
know who works in sports radio now, so.
Speaker 3 (09:38):
You know, then they start calling you like doctor James
Naysmith or Rodrigodell like like mocking nicknames of someone who
would know. By the way, Aaron said Rashi Rice, because
Rashi Rice just fumbled the ball out of bounds on
a second down out.
Speaker 4 (09:56):
Like she has a simba he was going.
Speaker 3 (09:58):
To the Chiefs drove down Patrick Mahomes scrambled for a
first out on a third and fourteen to get him
like around the ten yard line. Rice was going to
try to reach for the pylon and was switching hands
with the football and was knocked out. Luckily for him,
it went out of bounds and not out of the
end zone. The Chiefs on a fourth and goal right
now at the end of the first quarter, and Patrick
Mahomes has just hit Travis Kelcey on a touchdown pass.
(10:20):
So with one second left in the first quarter, Chiefs
about to take a well, they have a thirteen to
seven lead. The extra point is not given, but thirteen
to seven right now with an extra point pending, all right,
back to this conversation of well, I'm sure the Chiefs
bar right now is having a great time. Right everybody's
celebrating and everything is great, and that would be a
reason to gather Ian Roddy Ryan Smith, you guys like
(10:43):
to watch games in groups by yourself, Ian, what's your setup?
Speaker 2 (10:46):
Usually, I feel like there's a spectrum to this, and
I feel like Dan is at one end of it
and Monsie's at a complete other end. Yes, we're just
kind of a hair placing ourselves on that spectrum, and
I think I'm somewhere in between you guys, of course.
But I feel like it really depends on the team
i'm watching. Like, like you said, Dan, if it's one
of my teams, I really do feel that, like I
(11:06):
just want to be alone and watching because when it
comes to like the Jets, I live and die with
every snap, and when it comes to the Jets, that's
mostly dying, of course.
Speaker 3 (11:13):
But I prefer to do that alone.
Speaker 2 (11:15):
Whereas when it comes to just like a big sporting
event like the Super Bowl or a playoff game or
something like that, I'm super Yeah, I'm totally down to
go out to a bar and watch that or go
to a friend's house. I think it's more fun when
when you don't have as much of a vested interest
in one side, you can more just enjoy the experience
and watch it with other people. But but yeah, when
it comes to my teams, I want to be alone
for that for sure.
Speaker 3 (11:35):
I'm not saying that Aaron isn't a fan of teams
or a school, but I think that Aaron is the
more seasoned journalist of any of us here, Like there's
more Aaron's more of the flat line. I mean, you know,
he's written books. We consider him a college basketball insider.
So I think that when we talk about like what's
(11:55):
where we go and how we view these things, you know,
it's a fandom thing. Would you say, what would be
your favorite team? Aaron Torres? Like if you were to
take all of your teams as a fan, like, who
is the team that you like pull for the most?
Do you have one?
Speaker 1 (12:12):
I always say you cut men's basketball is really the
only team that I care about.
Speaker 3 (12:16):
Okay, yeah, everybody else.
Speaker 1 (12:19):
If you think I hate your team, I really don't
care about them at all, to be perfectly honest.
Speaker 3 (12:23):
Yeah, so Yukon's International Championship game. Your work probably takes
you to that site, right, They're the final four in
the national championship game.
Speaker 1 (12:31):
Yeah, three national championships in person in my life. No
big deal, no big deal, no sick bres.
Speaker 3 (12:35):
Yeah, come out right, yeah, no big deal. If the
game if the Clippers were playing Game seven of the
NBA Finals, Swansei, Game seven of the NBA Finals, would
you want to watch that at a bar, at a
friend's house, or at home by yourself?
Speaker 4 (12:48):
I'm going to the game, Okay?
Speaker 5 (12:49):
Is that not an option?
Speaker 3 (12:50):
Well, that's that's not an because that's I think that's
a that's a branch out of this conversation. Where does
that fall? I think that, But I don't think that
it's in the realm of the spirit, like we get
annoyed by fans sitting around us and sometimes to me
like the travel and everything that is in the butt
of why to go and not to go in the
(13:12):
weather and everything that comes with it. Yes, but take
all of that aside. I don't think that that fits here.
So if you were to, if there was a Game
seven that you could not attend in person, where would
you go?
Speaker 6 (13:23):
So I would I would go to either invite my
closest girlfriends who I know are gonna root for the
Clippers with me and bring them, or but keep it
keep it small and intimate to not going out.
Speaker 3 (13:36):
Yes, yes, Jets playing in a Super Bowl Ian Roddy,
Yeah you doing.
Speaker 2 (13:41):
I'm trying to watch that by myself, but I feel
like people would want to watch it with me as
a Jets fan. Yeah, so it'd be tough to make
that happen, but if it was my complete preference, I
would be able to watch it alone.
Speaker 3 (13:52):
Ryan Smith, I know you think Jets winning a super
Bowl is crazy, not too far off Raiders. I'll never
have to answer the question, but at least the Raiders
have history of winning Super Bowls. So there's three of
the Jets have one way back when, but Raiders back
in the Super Bowl. Where are you watching this game
by myself?
Speaker 7 (14:12):
I will never ever go to a never super Bowl
party because every time you go there, there's people that
don't even like sports and all they want to do
is talk and I want to watch the game.
Speaker 3 (14:23):
Leave me alone. And I think super Bowl parties are
unique in this like MAZI, like we use the NBA Finals.
No one's having a Game seven NBA Finals party. Really,
I am, well, you are with your close friends, but
it's not like NBA Finals Sunday, even though it's it's
on a Sunday, like that's not that's not the case.
I think that how this lays out air and it's
I think football is different, Like that would be that
(14:45):
would be the worst of watching your NFL team, if
it's at your favorite team, having to watch it at
a super Bowl party, because you know someone's there just
cheering for their numbers. You know someone's there just sharing that.
You know, the the second quarter, the first half ends
seven for right, those are the reasons like I would
for a game of that magnitude, there is no way
that I would be going anywhere. I wouldn't go anywhere
(15:09):
for even any of the games. But I think a
super Bowl party, Like, if you're a fan, there's no
way you can go to a super Bowl party.
Speaker 1 (15:16):
Well, as Ryan just said too, like it's not even
just like got people rooting against your team, got people
rooting on their bets, got people rooting on their squares, whatever,
you also have people that just want to talk to you.
And let's just call a spade a spade. Is there
anything in life more annoying than you're trying to watch
your favorite team and people just want to make conversation.
Could be at a bar, could be at a game,
(15:36):
could be wherever. No, No, I'm trying to watch the game.
I don't I don't care about your kids middle school dance.
I don't want to hear about it.
Speaker 3 (15:43):
You know what I hate? I hate when friends who
aren't as invested in as you are text you during
your game, sure where they would say something like to
Ryan man Gino Smith just doesn't have it, really, you
mean for what I've watched cheer over the last three quarters,
Like that's a new Like, hey, guess what, I don't
(16:04):
think justin Fields is the guy right? And what that like?
Annoy you?
Speaker 2 (16:07):
Like they're telling you the obvious. I have plenty of
experience with that. I get that all the time. But
I think people are more likely to text you when
your team's doing well, just because otherwise they know you're
in a bad mood.
Speaker 3 (16:17):
And I think that's my experience. I think that there
there are sometimes people who will reach out and feel
like they're becoming a part of, you know, like your day,
and it's just like it's the wrong thing to do.
Just leave me alone, Just don't talk to me at all,
Just leave me alone. Like this Saturday, I'm in the
fetal position on the couch for three and a half hours.
(16:37):
I've said, like in the biggest games, I think, and
that's that's another part of it is, can you truly enjoy,
you know, enjoy the game? Like sometimes these games are
just their root canals, and you're like, why am I
a fan? Why am I doing this to myself? And
then if your team happens to win, you're like, that's
why I'm a fan, That's why I'm a fan. But
that doesn't always happen, and that's what makes you uh
(16:58):
and and I'd much rather be then alone in my
sorrow then have to deal with everybody else. And then
if you cheer, if you win and people are around,
it's subdued. At least you can enjoy your own I
just have never been a person. Let's get people together
and watch games.
Speaker 1 (17:17):
You know what's actually really funny about what you just
said about you know you're gonna be in a ball
on the floor on Saturday. So I mentioned earlier when
we were filling in for Doug Gottlieb, how I was
at a Golden Knights game Vegas Golden Knights game on
Wednesday night and behind me were some Michigan fans. They
were just talking whatever. There was a couple and I
(17:38):
heard the woman say, my favorite day of the year
is watching him her husband boyfriend whatever watch the game,
and so you know, you talked about not wanting to
be around people, but I also just wonder one, I
wonder if she's been with him when Ohio State has
actually beaten Michigan. You know, if this is year three
(18:01):
of that relationship, it might change on Saturday. But I
thought that was interesting about wanting to be alone and
then just the emotions of the game. That's part of
wanting to be alone. And so you know, she has obviously,
this young lady that was sitting behind me, she has
certainly experienced the thrill of victory. I was just curious
thinking in real time if she has experienced the agony.
Speaker 3 (18:21):
Def I'm guessing. I'm guessing not because Hubby wouldn't be
as pleasant if they were Michigan fans. Yeah, oh wow,

Radio twenty twenty five version. Welcome in. Cowboys had to
settle for a field goal. So the Chiefs continue to
lead Dallas fourteen to ten. Now ten minutes to go
in the first half as they play in Big d
Chiefs have the football. Patrick Mahomes just did Travis Kelce

I know Ohio State Michigan takes a lot of air
out of the room when it comes to this weekend,
but the egg Ball and all of its extra curricular
(21:05):
activities erin have also taken up some air in the room,
as we still wonder about the status of Lane kiffen.
Speaker 1 (21:12):
Zeroed out, zeroed out. You know, listen, I in some ways,
I know I've said this like eight times. I don't
why I keep saying sympathetic, like it's not the right word.
I don't know that I'm sympathetic to Lane Kiffin. I
do think that in the past he has said, hey, listen,
all offseason conversation happens once the season gets to an end.
(21:34):
And I feel bad because I think he thought he
was going to be able to do that. And it
became very clear because Ole Missus season in theory could
go well into January, that that wasn't realistic. I think
I noticed that it wasn't going to hold up going
into the Florida game, which was the game before the bye.
Obviously he's a candidate for the Florida coaching job, and
the question just started getting super direct, super blunt, and
(21:58):
I realized pretty quickly it's an not gonna be able
to wait until after the end of the regular season.
It will in technicality, but it's certainly gotten weird over there.
Speaker 3 (22:07):
Well, it's a conversation that always continues here on Fox
Sports Radio and as I wait a secon that's the music.
Do I hear someone at our door? Is that? I
don't know? I thought I heard a knocker a doorbell?
Did you erin?
Speaker 1 (22:20):
Oh? Wait, now he's knocking.
Speaker 3 (22:21):
Hey, it's Chris Gordy, our good friend from Sports Talk
seven ninety in Houston, also the Lockedown SEC podcast. We
get together once a year. Chris, I gotta say, you
haven't changed since last season. You look great, my friend.
Speaker 9 (22:35):
Yeah, I'm still wearing the same clothes from last year
or two. And I books brought some pecan pie. Hopefully
no one's allergic.
Speaker 3 (22:42):
Oh no, it's one of my favorites. We've had bars,
we've had green bean casse role Mancy Belanios has brought
the wine. We've mentioned it eighty two times so far
on the show. Why not make it eighty three? So
I'm gonna love this pecan pie that Chris Gordy brought in.
So let's grab a slice and talk to Lane Kiffin.
I am so intrigued by this. Aaron and I were
(23:02):
together when the Ole Miss statement came out last week
of There's gonna be an announcement the day after the
Egg Bowl. My thoughts immediately changed I thought he is
as good as gone. I still feel that way. How
do you think the Lane Kiffin situation is going to
play out with ole Miss and these other parties.
Speaker 9 (23:21):
Yeah, I still think LSU is in the driver's seat.
LSU seems to be the most confident, but it's been
crazy Dan, like everybody else talked to you on the
Florida side and the LSU side for the past week,
is super confident he's coming there. And so, you know,
unless we're doing a Michael Keaton multiplicity and we're just
gonna clone him and put him in two places at once,
(23:42):
he's got a big decision to make. I think with
how the last week played out, there are some folks
in Oxford at ole Miss. I don't think he can
come out tomorrow and say, hey, I'm staying. I think
he's burned some bridges there. There's some folks there that
are not you know, saying basically he's if he's staying
into next year, we're not right and anymore checks. We're
not doing this, We're not doing that. So I think
(24:03):
he's as good as gone, and I think LSU right
now is still in the driver's seat, but it's Layne Kiffin.
Anything can happens.
Speaker 1 (24:10):
So it's so funny you say that, Chris is that.
By the way, the cloning thing immediately made me think
of Tom Brady and let's not give him any ideas.
But so I was actually gonna ask, because you know,
obviously a loss, I think maybe their playoff picture is
a little bit more perilous than I think a lot
of people maybe think if they do lose. I was
gonna say, if they win, so you think, independent of
(24:33):
whatever happens, they could win by sixty And that's a
little bit hyperbolic that there is essentially zero percent chance
that he's coming back.
Speaker 9 (24:41):
Well, here's the other weird part is Layne wants to
finish the year with ole Miss. It's the folks in
the Oxford that are saying, like, hell, we're gonna let
you walk out there and coach our team in the playoffs,
knowing that you're going somewhere else. And that's where the
calendar gets weird because next week is early signing period,
so he would theoretically, let's just say he takes the
LSU job next week, he would be signing a recruiting
(25:03):
class for LSU next year while still coaching Old Miss
into the playoffs. It just it doesn't make much sense.
Everybody around Oxford has kind of said the plan would
be likely. Joe Judge would take over as the interim.
He would coach the team into the playoff. You would
retain Pete Golding and and you know, Charlie Weiss Junior
as the OC and DC, and they would coach the team.
It would just be a really, really weird to watch
(25:25):
this Old Miss team move forward without him. But I
think I ain't even said it to himself this past
week that it's not like these kids have all been
there four years and put in their blood, sweat and
tears for Old Miss. A lot of these kids just
got here this year. They're hired assassins. They're at Oxford
for the one year, they're earning their money, and they're
on their way after this. So it's not like, oh
my god, I was betrayed by my coach because he
(25:45):
left for a better opportunity. So, you know, we'll see
how this thing plays out. But yes, certainly there is
the outside chance, guys that Texas could beat A and
M tomorrow and Alabama loses to Auburn on Saturday, and
Old Miss could still back their way into the SEC
Championship game next week, and then what do you do
if he's got to go coach another game next week?
Speaker 3 (26:05):
Chris Gordy joining us here on Fox Sports Radio, Lockdown
SEC host on the Lockdown Network and also Sports Talk
seven to ninety and Houston joining our and tours and
myself Dan Byer in for Cavino and Rich on this
Thanksgiving our own Friends Giving episode. We talk about top
jobs in college football, like what's the best job? Top five?
LSU is always in the conversation, does how everything happened
(26:28):
with Brian Kelly, with the now former ad with the governor?
Does that tarnish that job at all? In Baton Rouge, No,
I think it.
Speaker 9 (26:39):
All got itself figured out. I mean, you know they
finally realized yesterday. I mean look, the day the decision
was made that they were going to part ways of
Brian Kelly, the question everybody asked around the building was Okay,
do we have the fifty three million to buy him out?
Speaker 3 (26:52):
The answer that day was yes.
Speaker 9 (26:54):
So the answer that day was yes. It should have
just been a simple okay, see you later, Syanara, don't
let the door hitch You'll on your way out. There
were some people that got involved, like the governor saying, well,
he failed, why does he get paid this big amount
of money for being a failure? And I get it.
It's a great point, you know. Should we look to
maybe change those things in the future, yes, But this
(27:14):
is the price of paying poker. This is this is
what you did. You fired Brian Kelly, you pay him
his buyout, and you let him hit the road. And
so luckily cooler heads prevailed there and they figured out
that was the smarter thing to do. But uh no,
I don't think it's hardish as anything. I do think
you're going to see some verbiage in some of these
contracts moving forward with some of these schools, and I've
been told LSU may have something in there where it's
(27:36):
huge incentives for accomplishments on the field. For instance, a
Lane Kiffin, you know, gets to a national championship. I
think you know, it's like a million plus bonus in
there or something like that, where you reward the guy
more for what he does on the field there and
having success as opposed to just saying, yep, you get
seventy million weather you win or lose, and that's where
I think guys like Hugh Freeze and Brian Kelly they
(27:57):
get up there at age and they go, well, what
else do I need?
Speaker 3 (27:59):
Book?
Speaker 9 (28:00):
I mean, win or lose, you're gonna pay me seventy
million dollars? Like where, you know, where's the incentive to
work hard? There? So I get it. It's probably why
Hugh Freeze is spending more time on the golf course
the past year than actually game planning for football.
Speaker 1 (28:13):
Well, he's not quite as bad as Hugh Freeze. But
speaking of absurd contracts, or at least a contract that
I appear that I believe to be absurd, what do
you say about Eli Drinkwitz becoming almost an eleven million
dollars a year coach this morning? Because that I mean that,
you know, nine to three with no significant wins or
whatever he is, that's a lot of money for a
guy that's like, I think he's six and sixteen all
(28:35):
time against ranked teams.
Speaker 9 (28:37):
Well, you can make I mean, you can make the
same case for Lane Kiffin. I mean, what's he done
at Ole Miss. They've they've never won the SEC, they've
never made the playoff. Granted it looks like they're going
to this year. But you know, it's it's crazy to
me that we're talking about making lank Hiven the highest
paid coaching college football, ahead of Kirby Smart, Davos Sweeney,
Ryan Day, guys who actually have won national championships with
(28:58):
head coaches. So uh yeah, Putty like drink WIT's in
that same category. Look, I think he's done a great
job there at Maszoo, for given the resources and what
the expectations are and everything there. And I thought, honestly,
you give him the resources of a Florida or an
LSU had threnk drink Witz would have done a fine
job there. It's just weird everywhere in the last two
weeks that you went Florida fans, the LSU fans said,
(29:20):
by no, means I don't want drink Witz. He stinks
and all this. So one man's trash is another man's treasure,
and Maszoo is locking him in long term. But you're right.
I mean, you know, a couple of ten win seasons
is great, but at the end of the day, that
might just be the reality of the new SEC, where
with Texas and Oklahoma it is near impossible to win
this conference. I guess you're just gonna reward ten win seasons.
Speaker 3 (29:42):
Now Chris Gordy joining us here on Fox Sports Radio
talking college football specifically in the SEC, is on the
Lockdown SEC podcast and the Lockdown Network. He's Er and Torres.
I'm Dan Beyer. So there is only one Lane Kiffin.
If he does leave Old miss what are the other options?
What's the option for Florida? Where do they pivot to?
And if he doesn't end up in Baton Rouge, what's
(30:04):
next for LSU.
Speaker 9 (30:07):
I'll start with Florida. I've heard that their top, you know,
kind of backup plan is Jeff Brohm at Louisville, that
they really really like him a lot. They would go
after him very aggressively. Wants Slane Kiffin makes his move,
and if lan Kiffin chooses LSU, I had heard at
LSU he liked Drinkwitz was their backup. So with him
getting locked in at Miszoo, you know where does LSU go.
(30:29):
I know John Summrow is very highly thought of it. Tulane,
but man, I've heard that Auburn has been on his
doorsteps for the last week basically trying to get contact
contract details ironed out with him, so you know he's
got interest from Florida, LSU and ole Miss, So that'll
be really interesting to see. I thought, you know, maybe
ole Miss, you know, would they want to stay in
(30:51):
house and maybe elevator Pete Golding, who's been a long
time defense coordinator obviously was under Nick Saban at Alabama,
Like maybe he just trying to keep this train rolling.
But again, I have heard from them that they would
make Johnson roll their top priority. So you know, I
think the first dominoda that's going to fall here is
Lane Kiffin and then all the other cards will follow.
But I've been told by multiple people both LSU and
(31:11):
Florida for a wild card name to keep an eye
out on is Lincoln Riley, and I know he has
kind of sidestepped those the last couple of weeks. Is
that I'm very happy at USC, but LSU was this
close to getting Lincoln Riley in twenty one when he
left Oklahoma and then flipped over to USC and LSU
went and got Brian Kelly. I'm just wondering, if you know,
Lincoln Riley's kind of looking from a distance going, you
(31:32):
know what, the SEC is pretty damn strong, and they're
going to give me twenty five million plus for nil money. Yeah,
I might talk to LSU or Florida. So that's just
a name to keep an eye on.
Speaker 1 (31:41):
Talk about wildcards. I'll be quick on this one, Caitlin
de Boor, if he loses to Auburn in the Iron
Bowl and they missed the SEC championship game in the playoff,
any consideration that there's smoke behind those Penn State rumors.
Speaker 9 (31:56):
So twofall here, I don't think the Penn State thing
is legit. I mean that was one reporter in Pennsylvania
started that and nobody else credible I saw had that
and everybody ran with it as if it was fact.
So I don't think that Penn State will be calling
coming for Kaylen de Boor. But is Kaylen de Boor
in trouble if he loses to Auburn on Saturday. Absolutely,
the big money people in Tuscaloosa did not pay for
(32:18):
this guy to miss the playoffs two straight years taking
the Alabama job. Look, whoever took over for Nick Sable
was gonna have an unrealistic expectation on them, But to me,
that would be very disappointing to not even I mean
we're talking to the twelve team playoff here, guys. It's
not like it's the four team playoff. To miss the
playoff two years in a row, with all the talent
Alabama has had, it would be very disappointing. And yes,
(32:40):
there would be some folks in that building in Tuscaloosa
pushing for Kaylen to boor to be out, to be
bought out.
Speaker 3 (32:45):
Well, go, grab a leg, grab a wing, whatever you
want from the l Turkey over there, Chris Gordy, it's
time for you to rest up and enjoy the rest
of this friends Giving on Thanksgiving. We love talking to you,
love having you on. If you want to reach Chris Onix,
you can do it at Chris Gordy. Happy Holidays and
it's always great to talk to you.
Speaker 1 (33:02):
Man.
Speaker 3 (33:02):
Be well, thanks guys.
Speaker 9 (33:04):
I'm going to grab a cocktail.
Speaker 3 (33:06):
Right if Monzy doesn't get there first. Just kidding, Moncey. Hey,

Let's go to Monty Belangyo's at the news desk. She
doesn't have drinks, She's got scores and more. What's going on, Manzi, I.
Speaker 4 (33:28):
Would have a drink.
Speaker 5 (33:29):
You know that video of people when they get to
Dallas games and they all run in, that's me running
in towards the bar.
Speaker 4 (33:35):
That's just me, guys. That's how it works. The Dallas
Cowboys are losing right now.
Speaker 5 (33:40):
I home to the Kansas City Chiefs. Fourteen to ten
is the score. In fact, the Chiefs just punted for
the first time in this game. There's about five minutes
to go in the first half. Patrick Mahomes is thrown
for eighty five yards and two touchdowns. One of them
did go to Rishie Rice, the other one to Travis Kelsey.
Even though they did not show Taylor Swift, they showed
Brittany Mahomes after that touchdown, which I was like, oh, yeah, okay,
not Taylor Swift.
Speaker 4 (34:01):
I assume she's there.
Speaker 5 (34:02):
Dak Prescott has thrown for one hundred and thirty nine yards,
one touchdown, and one interception, which happened on the opening
series for the Cowboys. Earlier today, the Packers defeated the
Lions in Detroit finals score thirty one to twenty four,
but Green Bay was really aggressive going in for going
for it on fourth down three times and getting all
of them. Two of them came with touchdowns, and Jordan
Left threw for two hundred and thirty four yards four
touchdowns in the win. By the way, Lions wide receiver
(34:24):
i'm and Rossaint Brown suffered an ankle injury. It's not
considered significant, but he's likely to miss one to two weeks.
According to head coach Dan Campbell. They're gonna know more tomorrow. Also,
Michael Parsons is the first player in NFL history to
have twelve or more sacks in each of his first
five NFL seasons.
Speaker 3 (34:39):
One thing on that, so the Cowboys and Lions they
play next Thursday. The NFL does this a lot where
if you play on Thanksgiving, they'll take two of those
teams and play them the next Thursday. So that's probably
why he's saying, is we're not going to get like
an extra shortened by week sort of say they're going
to be on schedule. Let's after that that they would
get more time. So that's probably why I'm I was
(35:00):
gonna miss one.
Speaker 1 (35:01):
Did doo age?
Speaker 4 (35:02):
Yeah exactly exactly. Other news out of the NFL.
Speaker 5 (35:05):
The Steelers expect quarterback Aaron Rodgers to return for Week thirteen.
He was a full participant, but Buccaneer's quarterback Baker Mayfield
status is up in the air. Giants quarterback Jackson Dart
has cleared concussion protocol, so puts him in line to
play Monday Night football against the Patriots. College football Missouri
agreed to a six year contract with coach Eli Drinkwitz
in the NBA Warrior. Steph Curry he heard his quad
(35:26):
yesterday in a lost to the Houston Rocket, so he's
gonna miss around a week or so. Back to you guys,
Thank you very much, Manci.

Speaker 3 (36:48):
CD Lamb got the Cowboys on the board, and then
Malik Davis had a forty three hour touchdown run for
the Cowboys. They currently lead the Chiefs by a score
of seventeen to fourteen as they're at the two minute
warning and the first half. Dallas Cowboys Radio Network with
the call that was our Tyrac Play of the day.
So far, so good for the Dallas Cowboys, Aaron Torres
(37:09):
after that slow start, back in it now with the lead.
Speaker 1 (37:12):
Yeah, I've said, well, you know, really, two things that
I said earlier when we were filling in for Doug Gottlieb.
One think the Cowboys are a really fun watch. I mean, listen,
you know, great comeback win last week against the defending champs.
I think the other thing is in something you and
I've talked about the last couple of times we've been
on areas. I don't think there's some magic flip for
(37:32):
the Kansas City chief magic switch, I should say, for
the magic for the Kansas City Chiefs. I always said
magic City. I got Rob Parker on my brain right now.
The Kansas City Chiefs to flip. I think they are
what they are, and I think they're very limited outside
of the quarterback position. I think he's an all time great,
but I think that pretty much everywhere else, they're getting old.
(37:54):
They need to get younger, they need to get cheaper,
and I think that process is probably gonna frankly start
this offseason.
Speaker 3 (38:00):
This up because of what just transpired. But remember we
talked about watching games with others and you don't want
to correct them, and they can get a whole slippery
slope of earlier, you said you hope that they switch
the flip. Yeah, and so I was like, I'm like,
I was gonna let it go, like there's no point
in me bringing it up. But yeah, flip the switch.
That's what you gotta do.
Speaker 1 (38:18):
I get a list. Wow, look at you mastering the
English language.
Speaker 3 (38:22):
This is what I was talking about. I did not
want to bring it up. MONSI to you have my
back or do you have something else to bring to
the table, some delicious food.
Speaker 4 (38:30):
I have your back, but I can also bring something
to the table.
Speaker 3 (38:32):
All right, yeah, what else?
Speaker 1 (38:33):
Did I say?
Speaker 8 (38:34):
No?
Speaker 3 (38:34):
No, no, no, no, no, no friends here, this.
Speaker 1 (38:36):
Is going down a slope slippery No, okay, I'm very good.
No no, no, no no.
Speaker 5 (38:41):
It's just it is the season to be eating and drinking.
And I was unaware of some of which makes sense.
Some of the food that they're offering at these NFL
games on Thanksgiving, like in Detroit, and some of these
food items are also in Dallas.
Speaker 4 (38:55):
But obviously you probably want some turkey, but you don't
want just a turkey.
Speaker 5 (38:58):
So one of the items that they have which listen,
I'm not gonna.
Speaker 4 (39:01):
Eat it, but it sounds good.
Speaker 5 (39:03):
Waffle fries with turkey cheese, curds, gravy, a cranberry drizzle,
and crispy onions. That is a dish you can get
at today's game.
Speaker 3 (39:11):
It feels like it's a bit of a spin on poutine,
a little bit with the Yes.
Speaker 5 (39:16):
Absolutely, and if you went to the to the Detroit game,
you could have gone a cocktail called no pack No
to make fun of the packers.
Speaker 3 (39:24):
I like that.
Speaker 4 (39:25):
I like that.
Speaker 5 (39:26):
They also have a Jamier Gibbs has a signature spin
and Dash combo features a pepperoni pizza smash burger served
with the side of golden ring, tater tots and blue
sour Patch.
Speaker 3 (39:42):
Kids, that's actually what the Pilgrims did, Patch Kids, that's
you were down with the pepperoni pizza smash burger.
Speaker 2 (39:51):
I'm curious at least to hear like what it is.
I don't even know what that is, but it sounds
in I like pepperoni pizza and I like smash burger.
Speaker 5 (39:58):
Right, no, no, and the picture I mean, and I'll
do it. I'm not gonna not try it. It sounds
it sounds crazy and delicious, but they have all of
these other just I never thought about it, but I
guess if you are at this game, you do want
to feel like you're celebrating Thanksgiving right at the game,
which makes perfect sense because this is how you get
me to spend money, like I don't need.
Speaker 4 (40:16):
This, but I'm I'm gonna buy it just because I'm here.
Speaker 3 (40:19):
You also justify like we're at the game where at Thanksgiving,
he's the season. Of course we're gonna buy Aiden Hutchinson's
turkey legs, right, Like that's what you're going to do.
Speaker 5 (40:27):
It's also the season to skate, and you know every

It's funny baseball has got like the hot dogs, Like
you gotta have a hot dog and you go to
a baseball game.
Speaker 4 (40:47):
There's all year round, though this one feels a little
bit more special. That's what I'm saying. Like, you're gonna
buy it because it's only one time.
Speaker 3 (40:52):
Well, my point was going to be that there's nothing
like it. There's not like a special football item like
go I was like, oh, you got to go to
the stadium him and have blank right, yes, So now
there's like you like, I feel like football has got
way more of a leeway to try to do different
different things because there's nothing that you need to have,
Like if you go to a baseball game, mentioned doct
(41:13):
your dogs and Fenway Frank's earlier, Like, there's always going
to be a line for those because everybody's gonna want
that exactly.
Speaker 5 (41:18):
They also have it. I don't know about this one.
How do you guys feel? A Thanksgiving hand pie? So
it has herb dressing with cranberry sauce, green bean, sweet potatoes,
smoked turkey with turkey gravy, enclosed in a pie crust.
Speaker 3 (41:31):
How does a handpie not a chicken fingers?
Speaker 1 (41:34):
Right?
Speaker 3 (41:34):
All right, that's what I'm wondering. That sounds Thanksgiving hand pie, right,
It's fair enough. She's Monte Bolangios. That's he and Roddy
Ryan Smith. He's here in Torres. I'm Dan Beyer Friends
