the East Coast. Bruss but wonderful weekend. Happy, glated Father's
Day weekend. Fathers had a great weekend. Weather was great.
I'm still the whiffleball king. Rich played on my home

(00:45):
field at the parents' house over the weekend. Nice.

Speaker 4 (00:48):
Nice, by the way, It's nice to see everyone's dad's
on social media.

Happy belated Father's Day weekend.

Instagram hotties who are like, here's my dad and I'm like, oh,
that's a guy that to do with your.

Pain and ask Yeah, it is nice. Yeah, that's the guy.
He gave all the gray hair to I could see.

Speaker 5 (01:05):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:05):
Yeah, it's nice to see that the world doesn't just
revolve around you all the time because social media is
just such a place. It's a haven for narcissists and
look at me and self centeredness. So it's nice to
see that, oh, you actually come from normal humans. So
shout out to all the fathers who put in their
hard work. I hope you all had a great weekend.

So let me tell you what's coming up on another
action pack Cavino and Rich. But before I do that,
let me say what's up to Iowa Samuel? Hi, Iowa
Sam How are you guys? Guys? And Spotty's on the
video and dB on the updates. A full house today
have Mercy. So on today's show, we're gonna talk about

(02:03):
Grimace and how he's saving the New York Mets and
how some people are mad at that. I'm amazed how
people are mad at that. So we're gonna talk some
NL I want to break it down for a minute, communal,
because it's so terrible in the National League right now
that teams that are awful are in the mix like
a Jersey DJ.

Speaker 1 (02:24):
Where you're at, and the Mets signed Grimace to be
a DH. I'll explain, Oh okay, no, man, of course,
the Mavericks tonight, big game tonight. Do you want them
to win? And as Rich would say, quote unquote, drag
it out or not? Plus veterans. We didn't have time
last week to talk about veterans getting courtesy calls. Plus mahomes.

Speaker 3 (02:47):
There's lots to get to this action pack Monday.

Speaker 4 (02:49):
For sure, there's a story. We're definitely gonna get to it,
and it has to do with reunions. Yeah, they feel
so good. But are you lame if you don't go
to work reunion school unions? If you have a good reason,
I get it. But otherwise, is it la May? Is
it lame to just skip it? We'll try to get
to all that on the show. But Cavino, do you
mind if I start with this Grimace thing? Because I

(03:09):
find it hilarious and.

Speaker 2 (03:11):
There are people do we have a choice that are
like angry about it?

Speaker 4 (03:18):
You know, I would say, I'm just hit that clip
from because even ESPO, when they're calling highlights of the Mets,
are now pointing out Grimace.

Speaker 1 (03:23):
You know, there's nothing a little McDonald's can't fix, even
the New York Mets. They go from major disappointment to
maybe the hottest team in baseball, and.

Speaker 2 (03:32):
All it tuck was Grimace. All Tuck was Grimace.

Speaker 4 (03:35):
So since Grimace throughout the first pitch at a Mets
game as some silly promotion. The Mets are five and zero,
they've won eight or the last ten. They're actually clicking now.
All the pieces that you thought were going to be
a potential wildcard team, Pete Alonzo, Lindor, the addition to
j D. Martinez, guys like Brandon Nemo, they're finally starting

(03:56):
to play. And as you would say, Cavino, well we
are only sixty seventy games into the season.

Speaker 1 (04:01):
Yeah, it's a long season. Not to sound cliche, but
it's true. It's a long season. Not even at the
halfway mark. We're not at the All Star break or anything.
So they could totally turn it around. If I was
another team in the dumps, I'd look for the Hamburglar
and see what he was up to. Maybe he could
throw out a first pitch to switch out the luck.
Maybe the Fries guys, guys come out of retirement or something.

Speaker 6 (04:21):
And this really is like the plot line to like
a Major League seven. Yeah, well, like Grimis signs on
as some sort of promotion and that they just go
on a tear spot.

Speaker 4 (04:30):
It's a Cavino is the first one to point out,
So I'll be putting the words back in his mouth.
Every team that has a little fun with the fans,
whether they go on a playoff run or not, there's
only some type of spark, whether it's a mascot, a slogan,
a team phrase, there's always something.

Speaker 1 (04:48):
A cowboy up theory. Yeah, the cowboys need a rally cry,
he needs something to rally around.

Speaker 2 (04:53):
Rally monkey, I'll ay.

Speaker 1 (04:55):
Or maybe it's a player or the death of somebody unfortunately,
whatever brings the people and the fans together. And for
some strange reason, it's this stupid Grimace thing. And it
was a cool T shirt to go along with it, right.

Speaker 2 (05:07):
You know.

Speaker 4 (05:08):
It's interestingly enough, some of our old pals when we
worked on the air in New York and worked at
sn Y and we're on the radio in New York City.
Some of our whole coworkers, like Salacata and some of
those real New York sports guys are mad about it.

Speaker 2 (05:22):
Like why you're giving Grimace the credit?

Speaker 1 (05:23):
The metsa fund we play well and stupid grim I'm like,
stupid Grimace.

Speaker 2 (05:27):
Let the fans roll with it.

Speaker 4 (05:29):
If they're making funny memes of Grimace poking his head out,
if they're making funny memes of Pete Alonzo and Lindor
like chilling with Grimace, Like to me, any silly thing
that could get the fan base interested for an otherwise
disappointing first seventy plus games, Like when do you assume
the fans should latch onto this with all their might?

Speaker 2 (05:49):
Like, yes, yeah, Grimis.

Speaker 1 (05:50):
Hold on to whatever works, you know, don't disrupt it,
let it flow, ride it out, have fun with it.
And I think it took a lot of edge and
a lot of pressure off of the Mets. And if
the fans are having fun with this, just keep on rolling.
And I think it's a story of hope too, because
Grimace has been getting a lot of shine. Look, the

(06:11):
McDonald's brand sort of steered away from Ronald and we've
discussed this Ronald is not the guy. When's the last
time you show Ronald McDonald no? Right? And there's reasons
for that. Kids were scared of clowns, and clowns were
getting bad press. And in the past few years you
got the Grimace shake that people raved about. You didn't
have a Ronald shake. You had that Grimace shake that
everybody loved. You have Grimace now the face of the Mets.

(06:33):
People loving it, so hey is the comeback for Hey?
Maybe Grimace was the star the whole time? Huh As
see what I'm saying. You're right, You're right.

Speaker 4 (06:43):
Last year, as you pointed out, you can't forget the
Grimace shake, and McDonald's had people making viral videos.

Speaker 2 (06:49):
It was a hit that they didn't think would be
a hit.

Speaker 1 (06:51):
And now with the Mets, you're right, Could it be
the Grimace was the Steve Rkle, the Fons, the hidden
the hidden star the whole time?

Speaker 3 (06:58):
What is Grimas anyway?

Speaker 1 (07:00):
It's a purple blob. I don't know what's he supposed
to be supposed to be?

Speaker 2 (07:05):
Can you look it up? Honestly? What is Grimace? Is
he a purple chicken nugget?

Speaker 1 (07:09):
I heard he's not no zempic now, so he's not
he's losing weight. But I like fat Grimace.

Speaker 2 (07:14):
I know what he is.

Speaker 7 (07:15):
What he is a grape flavored dot.

Speaker 6 (07:21):
But Grimmace lore says he is the embodiment of a
milkshake or a taste bud.

Speaker 1 (07:30):
I mean those are two completely different things.

Speaker 4 (07:32):
Purple, I don't stretch, but I will say the Mets
are playing well. And I'm not a fair weather fan,
but I can't say it doesn't have me a little
more interested when the team finally starts playing the way
it should play.

Speaker 1 (07:45):
And you know why it is. It's always some sort
of gesture too. If someone gets a hustle double and
they're slid into second, it's like they're they're grinding the pepper,
they're giving the thumbs down or something, they're doing a claw,
like all these little things. They're gimmicky and their corny,
But sometimes those are the team building exercises that build

(08:06):
the camaraderie, the truth and started us. Time any team,
any office, any group of guys is struggling, it could
be something stupid like this.

Speaker 3 (08:15):
That's the catalyst.

Speaker 8 (08:16):
So Covino, it says he started as a bad guy
introduced in nineteen seventy one, the ambiguous blob of a mascot,
Evil Grimace.

Speaker 1 (08:26):
So they got rid of vogel Bach for this guy.

Speaker 2 (08:29):
Yeah, I was, you know, by the.

Speaker 1 (08:32):
Way, I think was designated for assignment. I think he
don't think he's in the bigs right now.

Speaker 2 (08:35):
I think he was.

Speaker 4 (08:36):
But you know what, let me just point out from
a real baseball perspective, JD. Martinez, if he's played for
your team, you know what the guy brings. He's ageless,
He's contributing on a high level. Alvarez back behind the plate.
The Mets have I think a top three catcher in
Major League Baseball, and Alvarez so not only calling games,
but his offense. So Alvarez, j D. Martinez, I'm not

(08:57):
the idiot that's like METSA going on the way. But
what I am saying is in a cluttered National League,
let me give you this and we'll move on from
the nerdy baseball stats. But I was, Sam Danny g
have you looked at the National League wildcard standings? I'm
being serious, have you?

Speaker 9 (09:15):
No?

Speaker 4 (09:16):
It is silly, it's almost it's almost ridiculous. So these
are all teams that are playing five hundred or slightly
under five hundred baseball as of right now, there's one
wildcard in the NL that seems like they're legit, and
that's the Braves, who are struggling. At thirty eight and
thirty one, people thought they were a clear one hundred

(09:37):
win type of team. Right after that, you have the Cardinals,
the Padres. Let's count these teams, Nationals, three Diamondbacks, four Giants,
five Reds, six Pirates, seven Cubs, eight Mets nine. There
are nine teams within one game.

Speaker 2 (09:56):
Of each other.

Speaker 3 (09:58):
That's insane.

Speaker 2 (10:00):
Did you hear what I said?

Speaker 3 (10:01):
Nine teams in one game? Catch fire? Yeah, that's incredible.

Speaker 2 (10:05):
That's absurd.

Speaker 4 (10:06):
Other than the Colorado Rockies and the Marlins, who were,
as my mom would say, the pits, unless you're the
Rockies or the Marlins. Funny enough, we're both expansion teams
in the same year. Right Whether whether your team stinks
or not, it doesn't matter because you're in it. And
in baseball, what have we seen over the last couple

(10:27):
of years, great teams like the Dodgers and the Braves,
and when the Mets want one hundred games, some of
these teams are getting shut out of the playoffs. In
the first round or so, because they're just not hot
in that moment. Baseball's not like other sports where the
best team always wins.

Speaker 8 (10:41):
You know, what's wide open in the NL right now,
all of a sudden too, the MVP race now that
Bets has a fractured hand.

Speaker 1 (10:48):
Yeah, I was by far the leader, and I think
Bryce Harper was up there too, So that opens up
a lot of opportunity for other people.

Speaker 3 (10:54):
And by the way, Dan, I'm sorry to hear about that.

Speaker 1 (10:57):
Man. I was gonna say, I hope you guys had
a tank Davis Haitlyn Clark Grimace sort of weekend, not
a Mookie Bets sort of weekend. A big loss for
the team.

Speaker 8 (11:06):
You have to not just Bets. Yamamoto too is out. Yeah,
injured rotator Cuff, Yeah, exactly, that was grim news. Sam
on yourself.

Speaker 1 (11:19):
Yeah, Robert said they'll be fine. I like that attitude,
like we're gonna be fine. Baseball teams move on. But
on a personal note, that sucks because he was having
an MVP year and you never really know, and I'm
not rooting against the Dodgers at all, but you never
know because he's such a catalyst, such a major part

(11:39):
of that lineup like last year when Judge got hurt,
remember when he stubbed his toe in LA. That was it.
They went on a skid after that because it just
shook up the lineup so much. It wasn't the same.
So I'm not wishing that against the Dodgers, but I
think it just goes to show you how long the
season is and how you really never know because you
don't know where the Dodgers go from here. And I

(11:59):
do agree they'll be fine, but you don't know after
major injuries like that, and then you don't know if
teams like the Mets, who are full of stacked major leaguers,
you don't know if they can catch fire with something
goofy like this.

Speaker 4 (12:12):
And the reality is when there's three wild cards now,
which you know, great teams hate because again you're giving
a team that might not deserve to be there a shot.
But if you're a Mets fan or a Cubs fan, Pirates, Reds,
you know, Giants, all teams that are a couple of
games under five hundred, and you're like, you're under five

(12:33):
hundred yet right now, there's ninety to one hundred games
left to play in a baseball season, and you're right there.
You could almost like you can almost say, let's reset
and you got a legit shot, which is crazy to
me because if your team historically was let's say thirty

(12:53):
five and thirty five after seventy games, yeah, you're probably
not making the postseason. Now there's two wildcard spots that
are both going to be going to roughly five hundred
ball clubs if this pace keeps going. And I think
this is a chance for a team like the Padres
of the Mets or the Giants, where you have a

(13:15):
stacked roster that really underdelivered to say, hey we got
a mulligan, we have a shot right now to make
a playoff push and just get in.

Speaker 2 (13:24):
All you got to do is get in.

Speaker 3 (13:25):
And you have to think they have Bertie the Early Bird.

Speaker 1 (13:28):
Come out, maybe to throw out a first pitch. Do
you remember who Bertie the Early Bird is?

Speaker 2 (13:32):
Or I don't, but yes you do.

Speaker 1 (13:34):
That's the thing hold on and not the goofy up
this conversation already, but it really is ever since Grimace
throughout the first pitch, and the Mets have been rallying
around Grimace.

Speaker 3 (13:44):
They need Grimace T shirts, and it's like, oh, I
did maybe.

Speaker 2 (13:48):
Bertie the Early Bird is the female duck with the pigtails.

Speaker 1 (13:51):
Yes, it looks like a pilot of sorts. I think
she was a pilot. I don't know what she had
in her head, but Birdie the Early Bird was one
of those McDonald's cars with the frying guys, Ronald Grimace,
the Hamburglar. What I find interesting about it is we
grew up with all those characters, but do they still
market any of them to the kids today.

Speaker 2 (14:11):
That's what's weird about it.

Speaker 1 (14:12):
It's like, hold on, do any of the kids even
know what that is?

Speaker 3 (14:16):
What is that purple blob that everyone's talking about.

Speaker 4 (14:19):
Someone unlocked a memory for me the other day. That
was one of those like I would never have thought
about it again in my life until someone mentioned it,
because I was talking about how one of my kids
go to McDonald's on occasion they'll fight over what toy
they get in their Happy Meal.

Speaker 2 (14:30):
Right, do you remember the happy Meal toy where.

Speaker 1 (14:32):
They were like almost transformers of these characters of like
the characters and food like that.

Speaker 2 (14:40):
The French the.

Speaker 4 (14:41):
French fries turned into something, the burger turned into something.

Speaker 2 (14:44):
Was that the most popular McDonald's toy of our childhood.

Speaker 7 (14:47):
Could be they need to bring all these characters back.
Have you gone into a McDonald's. It's like going into
a sterile labs?

Speaker 2 (14:54):
So cool?

Speaker 1 (14:55):
Were law up with these characters? So we know Grimace.
I'm just surprised that any of these kids that go
through the game cared at all. And is it the comeback?
Like Sam just alluded to, is it the comeback of
these characters? To me, I'm more sitting there comeback than
the Mets. But hey, I'm not a Mets fan.

Speaker 2 (15:14):
Yeah, is this true?

Speaker 4 (15:15):
Our buddy Wes in Vegas who listens on there or
our affiliate there. He said, Bubba Wallace's car is also
Grimace related. Maybe Grimace is the star.

Speaker 3 (15:25):
Maybe he was the star all along.

Speaker 4 (15:27):
Well, Hey, just wanted to bring that up quick baseball note.
We'll move on to the NBA and some NFL and
but you know.

Speaker 1 (15:33):
What it's like, Rich, Honestly, I mean to relate it
to everyday life. It's like that icebreaker, whether it be
at the office like I mentioned before, or maybe there's
some awkwardness in the family, Like every family needs that
icebreaker or that inside joke. It's like that inside joke
that brings people together and they sort of they use

(15:57):
that as the jump off of their friendship or their
relationship it moving forward. That's what this team needed and
if that's what's working, like I said, every team needs
to find that.

Speaker 4 (16:06):
I can't disagree with you because team building and fan
you know, and fandom rallying around something is such a
big part of sports and work and everything. Like look
at I was Sam. We love I was Sam. We
see him every day, but you know what we really
bonded with. I was Sam some of the dumb inside
jokes from our trip to Eugene organ together. Sure, waiting
at the super slow Starbucks, you know, having some drinks,

(16:28):
I was Sam, Like where the.

Speaker 2 (16:29):
Hell do you go?

Speaker 4 (16:30):
Like all you know, you you build these and that's
you know, that's the recipe for a good clubhouse or
locker room. In sports, fans rally around inside jokes and stories.
Like you said, a team does some silly thing when
they get a double, they a claw or some hand movement.
These are the things fans rally behind.

Speaker 1 (16:47):
So anyone that's see said, the dumber, the better too,
because this is about it as dumb as it gets.
But that's what makes it funny.

Speaker 4 (16:55):
It doesn't get dumber, even John Mayer. I'm calling out
a random name, John Mayor, who works with Serious six Am.
We have mutual friends with John. He has even been
put on social media. I believe how he's fascinated with
this whole Grimeace streak because everyone is tying Grimace to
the Mets, turning it around and listen. It could be
short lived and the Mets couns stink the rest of

(17:15):
the season. But for a team that is disappointed, not
only me, but millions of fans and queens and Long
Island and around the country that are Mets fans, this
little glimmer of five in a row, eight out of
the last ten. If you want to joke and say, hey,
it's Grimace. All Hail Grimace. The Mets even tweeted all
Hail Grimace. So roll with it, have fun with it

(17:36):
if you want. You know, if you're sticking the mud
and you're like, oh, I don't want to see a
picture of lindor photoshop with Grimace, then you're a jerk.

Speaker 1 (17:43):
I don't want to tell and I'll tell you. You
know who should be worried, not the nl East, but
mister Mett. I would say if I were him, I'd
be worried because what if Grimace starts making his move
on Missus Met since he's the hot thing.

Speaker 2 (17:57):
Or mister Mett it's Pride month. I don't know, what
do we know?

Speaker 1 (18:01):
Yeah, but missus Stuffy got those Uh she's got a
dumpy back there.

Speaker 6 (18:06):
I don't know, Grima is a bit ambiguous. How do
I trogn.

Speaker 1 (18:11):
We know what? Ud see how we're joking about that?
For all we know, that's what these guys are joking about.
Or you know, maybe they know the guy underneath the
Grimace uniform, Like maybe there's fun stuff related to that.
That loosened up the clubhouse, took the pressure off it,
they had fun with it. For all we know, something
goofy like that could really be what changes the mood

(18:31):
and vibe of that team. And that's what's really cool
about that. Hey, and you know what, on the flip side,
something like what happened to MOOKI Mets could change the
vibe for the worst.

Speaker 3 (18:41):
Like, you never know about these things.

Speaker 4 (18:42):
For all we know, mister and Missus Met could by
maybe they met on thropple.

Speaker 2 (18:47):
Who knows, that could be a possible way. But hey,
your thoughts.

Speaker 4 (18:53):
If you want to give us any feedback, always at
cobing on Rich Again, we're gonna get to m b A.
We're gonna get to some NFL off season stuff. But
I just thought it was wild how the NL is
so watered down, and you could argue Garbaggio, But again,
that fun.

Speaker 1 (19:10):
Story, dude, And I'll tell you what you know. We're
very closely tied to our East Coast roots. I'm in
Jersey right now. We have, you know, Mets fans and
friends that we still talk to.

Speaker 2 (19:19):
All the time.

Speaker 3 (19:20):
It's in our algorithm.

Speaker 1 (19:21):
I don't think everybody is aware of this stupid story,
and it's a real story. So look, we are going
to talk about the Mavericks. You know, that's the big
game tonight. We'll talk about that. But I don't think
anyone else is really focusing on this. So I'm glad
we brought it to light because it's a fun one.

Speaker 4 (19:34):
It just not to say the same thing again, but
just I'll nail it. Give me the hammer so I
can now one more time. Teams work, relationships, family, We
all rally around inside jokes and camaraderie and silly things.
And if the Mets and Grimace could get fans caring
about a team who's under five hundred, who is having

(19:57):
crap attendance, and Steve Cohen's losing the support of all
the fans, Like, you know, Steve Cohen's gonna turn this around, yo.
They should be stroking Grimace like Grimace. Grimace is uh
the savior?

Speaker 2 (20:08):
All hell Grimace.

Speaker 1 (20:10):
They should put up a statue of Grimace next to
Tom Seaver.

Speaker 6 (20:13):
For the next month, right, I just make sure there's
no shadow.

Speaker 1 (20:18):
Yeah, I don't.

Speaker 2 (20:18):
Know what is what is the Grimace's shadow be?

Speaker 4 (20:21):
What is grim So hey, all hail Grimace, Enjoy your
baseball again. You can't argue that the NL is great
outside the Dodgers, who just hit a roadbalck and the Phillies,
who look like they might be the best team in
the NL.

Speaker 2 (20:37):
The reality is other teams will make.

Speaker 4 (20:39):
The postseason, and right now there's a pretty cool sense
that everyone from the Cards, the Padres, the Gnats, Diamondbacks, Giants,
Cincinnati reds Pirates, Cubs, Mets, all those teams right now
started today within one game of a postseason spot. So

(21:00):
other than like I said, the two miserable places of
Colorado and Miami other than Rockies fans and Marlins fans,
every NL team is sitting here in June saying.

Speaker 1 (21:10):
We're one game out.

Speaker 4 (21:11):
One game doesn't matter what happened up to this point.
We're one game out, so have at it, enjoy your baseball,
and coming up, coven On, I got to ask you
about this. How do you feel about a guy like
Jason Tatum saying, yeah, if we.

Speaker 2 (21:25):
Don't win tonight, it's not the end of the world.

Speaker 3 (21:27):
I don't like that, so we'll don't get too comfortable.

Speaker 2 (21:31):
We'll dissect that a little bit.

Speaker 4 (21:32):
And whether or not you quote unquote want this season
and this series to drag on, or do you think

(24:11):
But again, happy belated Father's Day weekend. Hope you had
a good one. Have lots to get to today, man.

Speaker 4 (24:17):
I was talking to our buddy Bo in the editing
room during the break and yeah, we were joking about like, oh,
that's that's how they ruin baseball with all these potential
wildcard teams being under five hundred, you shouldn't be in
a postseason conversation. I know it's June, but the fact
that if the season did end, two of the three
wildcards are five hundred or less is it's not where

(24:41):
a playoff.

Speaker 2 (24:41):
Team should be.

Speaker 4 (24:43):
And we were saying there's another drawback of widening the
playoffs in Major League Baseball. The benefit is that you
have now, in addition to the Dodgers, Phillies and Braves
and Brewers, you have a handful of other teams that
are now going to be interested throughout the whole summer,
where previously they would have been checked out, not caring

(25:03):
at all.

Speaker 1 (25:04):
Yeah, games continue to mean something. Fans are still invested.
So yeah, those are the pros.

Speaker 2 (25:08):
Now.

Speaker 1 (25:09):
The downfall is that it totally ruins the trade deadline
because now you got all these teams that might have
some delusions of we have a chance, like the Padres Mets.
These teams should be sellers.

Speaker 4 (25:20):
Now they could be like, oh, well we're not selling,
we got a shot. Meanwhile, a team like the Dodgers
could try to be like ooh, lindor could be a
fit while Mookie's heard or there's yeah.

Speaker 1 (25:30):
I mean a lot of people were talking about Pete
Alonzo maybe going somewhere else, and obviously not if the
Mets are still in it.

Speaker 2 (25:36):
So we were trying to say, is there a solution to.

Speaker 4 (25:41):
Baseball changing for the better, but also some of the downfalls,
like again ruins the trade deadline, teams with eighty wins
competing against hundred win teams. Would it be insane to
say those one hundred win first place teams start with
a one to zero advantage as far as game one,
like in a best of series, like they got one

(26:02):
in pocket?

Speaker 2 (26:02):
Is that silly?

Speaker 1 (26:05):
Like? What's the incentive? I meaning?

Speaker 3 (26:06):
Like these teams? As Slater Also, so we're talking.

Speaker 4 (26:08):
About what about a Dodgers team that, let's say goes
you know, one hundred and ten and fifty two, and
then they're playing a Mets or Padres team who goes
eighty three and seventy nine. There shouldn't be some incentive
for winning twenty five more games in the other team.

Speaker 1 (26:26):
I don't hate it. I get it doesn't seem fair
when you look at it that way, right because they
still make the playoffs. Each team's still there, So then
what's the what's the benefit of kicking ass all season long?

Speaker 2 (26:37):
What's up, DEBI?

Speaker 5 (26:38):
If you're already giving the wild card team, the home
team an advantage by hosting the three games.

Speaker 3 (26:44):
That's the advantage.

Speaker 5 (26:45):
Why are they getting the advantage to your point? And
then you have a team with a first round by
that really doesn't get any advantage.

Speaker 1 (26:51):
To that point.

Speaker 5 (26:52):
I mean to play three games at home, is you
know amazing? That would be so, But they're putting an
advantage in there to your point of adding another win
or why you wouldn't give one to the top other
seeds unless they consider the rest the advantage. I don't
think it's a bad idea.

Speaker 4 (27:09):
Like your team right now, DBA, your Brewers sitting pretty
second place team in your divisions five hundred.

Speaker 5 (27:17):
I'll tell another I'll tell you another thing that ruined
that the expanded playoffs ruined normal start and end times
to the season for the fact of now you have
another round of playoffs that you have to end up
getting through. World Series is now going into the first
week of November. We're starting these games, we're starting the

(27:37):
season at the end of March.

Speaker 1 (27:40):
Doing so on a.

Speaker 5 (27:41):
Thursday, you know, there's not that traditional you're trying to
I don't think gave them more off days throughout the season,
but I would say that that's a victim of it
as well.

Speaker 1 (27:49):
Definitely a thing. I mean, it was a rarity. I
mean it was only one instance when Jeeter was missed
through November they were playing.

Speaker 4 (27:56):
I was just going to say, I can't wait for
someone to have a better November, and you get that
Jeter loses the title.

Speaker 3 (28:01):
Exactly, and now it just dips into.

Speaker 2 (28:04):
That Bryce Harper's.

Speaker 3 (28:08):
Exactly that is so it does it drags it out
a little bit.

Speaker 2 (28:12):
Well, hey, your thoughts.

Speaker 4 (28:13):
Like I said at Covino and Rich, now we are
going to play my favorite game. I don't know about yours.
We're going to play Last One Standing in your favorite game.

Speaker 3 (28:22):
Is Chipotle Worker or WNBA Player. That's my new favorite game.

Speaker 1 (28:26):
We'll play that later this week, but uh, for now,
we'll play that. In a little bit, we'll talk a
little NFL. Patrick Mahomes is in the news and it
has to do with a reunion. I want to get
to that story.

Speaker 4 (28:37):
But tonight we're looking at a game five Camino. Yeah,
and I want to know, first of all, we said,
Jason Tatum said, Hey, we don't win, it's not the
end of the world. And they're up three to one,
still Dallas backs against the wall. Is Luca playing for
his legacy tonight? Like, I don't want to be an embarrassed.

(29:00):
Is it a case of, hey, MAVs annihilated Boston in
Game four? Why can't they keep that momentum like it do?

Speaker 1 (29:08):
And you have to assume that maybe Boston takes their
foot off the gas a little bit because they're so
comfortable with the lead. You know, there's so many factors involved.
They take their foot off the gas. The Mavericks have
to win, and then they win by a landslide. But
if you let them back in again tonight and they win,
I don't see how they don't have a different sense

(29:28):
of urgency. Is it the end of the world? No
world goes on. But I wouldn't want to take that chance.
The Mavericks are still a good team.

Speaker 3 (29:36):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (29:36):
The problem is if you give them that sliver of
hope and Dallas gets the victory tonight, then all of
a sudden, the pressure goes on to the Celtics shoulders.

Speaker 3 (29:44):
Exactly, So why would you? I mean, it's a positive.

Speaker 1 (29:47):
Way to look at it. But I don't even like
that mindset.

Speaker 4 (29:49):
I'm saying, you steal a game in Boston tonight, if
you're Dallas, then you got game six at home, and
now all of a sudden you're feeling confident, like, yo,
we just want two in a row, and you're right.
Then all of a sudden they win that. Then it's
game seven. Everything's on the line one game and then
anything could happen. So again, that's why it doesn't seem likely.
But if they did happen to win tonight, they are

(30:11):
six and a half point underdogs in Boston. Boston's a
heavy favorite at home, which they should be, but stranger.

Speaker 2 (30:17):
Things have happened.

Speaker 4 (30:19):
And I do wonder in scenarios like this, do you
like when the team that's down Big Danny drags on
the series or is there a party that's like just
ended and let's move on.

Speaker 8 (30:26):
I like it to drag on, to drag out, yeah,
because I mean I watched so many NBA games through
the season. I don't want to see it end exactly yet,
especially like that.

Speaker 4 (30:35):
I was reading an article earlier today about how this
has historically been a you could argue an upsetting year
for the NBA, some rough telecasts. The series haven't been great,
all of them. Plus inside, the NBA made the announcement
that they're done, and Barkley just announced his retirement. So
it's sort of arguably a forgettable NBA final. So maybe

(30:58):
we want a little excitement.

Speaker 8 (30:59):
Well, I think I think Cove, you know, I think
Luca made this up. He said it's not over till
it's over.

Speaker 1 (31:05):
I think he did. Yeah, they were Yogi Orra, it's
one of them. Joy but yeah, of course. But I'm
with you, Danny g All. The way man drag it
out from a selfish standpoint gives us something you have.
No if you're not a Celtics fan, why wouldn't you
want to see him drag it out and push them
to the limits. Here, I absolutely want to see that.

(31:26):
You know.

Speaker 4 (31:26):
I'll give you one terrible analogy and then we'll go
to our best Bud Dan Buyer for an update. Sometimes
you think a lead and listen because historically a three
or old lead, I get it, doesn't you don't come
back from.

Speaker 1 (31:37):
That, but but you do. And there's always a first
like we've all done it, and even dumb things like
Rex sports, Like you could be playing, you know, pick
up basketball at someone, or you can playing softball and
you're up by ten runs and all of a sudden,
instead of trying to score on a double from second,
like yeah, i'll stop a third, I'll be polite.

Speaker 2 (31:56):
Then you're like, you know what you know, unless you're
up twenty five runs of your ar.

Speaker 4 (32:01):
But that's why, like sometimes when people say is it
wrong to pile on or not points wise, and I'm
always torn on that because anyone could come back. I
don't like the idea of taking your foot off the
guests too soon exactly.

Speaker 1 (32:13):
Yeah, So I would like to see the Mavericks drank
it out tonight.

Speaker 2 (32:17):
To answer the question, all right, let's go to Dan Byer,
what's going on?

Speaker 5 (32:22):
I do think the other team needs to wave the
white flag like they're not going to try, like they
understand it's over. Then you can stop at third. But
like the Mavericks are going to keep trying, and the
Celtics should obviously keep trying and in those scenarios, all right,
A news just did from golf, Rory McElroy officially withdrew
from this week's Travelers Championship, a PGA Tour signature event

(32:43):
in Connecticut, one day after finishing second to Brison de
Shamba by one shot at the US Open. In a statement,
McElroy said he was going to take a few weeks
away before teeing it up at the Scottish Open in July.
TMZ actually spotted McElroy with his wife and daughter at
a marine life center in Florida earlier today. Last week,
Kelelroy called off the divorce with his wife as these
sides have it reconciled, but you will not see Rory

(33:05):
McElroy this week. That the PGA Tour stop in Connecticut.
All right tonight, Mavericks and Celtics eight thirty Eastern time.
Celtics are up three to one. Chris stops Porzingis is
considered questionable for the game. France stopped Austria today one
nil in Group dplay of Euro twenty twenty four, but
late in the win for France, France Killian and Bape
appeared to break his nose after a collision. We don't

(33:28):
know his status moving forward, but it was not pretty.
Earlier today, Slovakia up said Belgium in Group E one nil.
Romania three to nothing win against Ukraine College World Series
NC State has been eliminated. Florida beat him today in
an elimination game five to four. Some baseball news Phillies
reinstated shortstop Trey Turner from the il you guys talked
about Mookie Betts earlier. He was placed on the al

(33:51):
with his fractured hand, and the Bengals of Sound wide
receiver t Higgins to his franchise tag officially put pen
to paper today twenty one point eight million dollars for
Higgins next season. They now have until July fifteenth to
work out a long term deal if the sides choose.
To guys back to you me.

Speaker 4 (34:07):
The maclroy story to me is interesting because listen, you
lose by a stroke. It's devastating. We've seen the video
of his disappointment. But when you could rekindle a marriage
that you thought was done and they're calling it a
divorce U turn Yes, I mean.

Speaker 2 (34:23):
They have a three year old kid.

Speaker 4 (34:25):
And not to sound all righteous, but that's so much
more important than golf. If he could somehow work it
out with his wife who is going to be his
ex wife and go through all that drama. We all
have friends and family that have gone through rough divorces
and I'm sure his was not going to be simple.

Speaker 1 (34:39):
Yes, yeah, they be right about that.

Speaker 4 (34:41):
If he could work that out. You don't think that's
more of a win than a golf torment. I know
that sounds corny to say, but come on, yeah, Monny wise, happiness, wise,
like seeing his kid, everything about it. It's like, dude, you
won the weekend. If that's the case.

Speaker 5 (34:55):
Yes, yes, the kid is much more important than a
US Open trophy. I agree with that number percent.

Speaker 4 (35:00):
Well, dB, I want you to get ready because we're
gonna play last one standing. All right a little bit,
Danny G and spot working out the questions. Cavino gonna
be trying to win from three thousand miles away. You set, buddy,
because we're gonna do that.

Speaker 1 (35:11):
Coming up. Plus, we'll talk about Patrick Mahomes skipping a reunion.
We'll explain and what that says about him or not.
Hang tight, we're seeing our next I heard Luca came
up with the lyrics for this. Is that true? That's
what Danny G said? No?

Speaker 2 (35:29):
True?

Speaker 1 (35:29):
Star Vino, Cavino and Rich on Fox Sports Radio and
Happy belated Father's Day. I hope you guys, had a
great weekend. I hope everybody got a chance to relax,
enjoy a cookdown of barbecue serves up perhaps, And I
hope you had a Gervante Tank Davis ben Evitez sort
of weekend, Caitlin Clark with twenty three points, and to

(35:53):
win over the Sky sort of weekend. By the way,
they play again on Sunday this coming weekend in Chicago.
That'll be interesting.

Speaker 4 (36:01):
Do you think angel Rees got some juice behind what
she said?

Speaker 1 (36:04):
When?

Speaker 4 (36:04):
Do you think she has any right to say that
some people have their own special whistle?

Speaker 2 (36:09):
Insinuating toutely not.

Speaker 1 (36:10):
She took her head off. What is she talking about?

Speaker 4 (36:12):
That was like a that was like a Marty Janetti
Rockers clothes line. That was like a that was like
a Holster clothes line.

Speaker 1 (36:19):
I'm not saying it was deliberate, but it was aggressive.

Speaker 3 (36:22):
It was clearly a foul.

Speaker 1 (36:23):
So there was no special whistle.

Speaker 2 (36:25):
I mean, we all know I was Sam's feelings.

Speaker 4 (36:27):
I was Sam off the airs that angel reas suspended
for the year, right, I did not say that hitting
And by the way, hopefully I had a Stallion's type
of weekend, Yo, Stellion, the Birmingham Stallions. They won the
UFL championship, and uh, you know, I'm not trying to
sound rude. I didn't even I was unaware that the

(36:47):
season had come to an end that quickly. I knew
the championship happened this weekend. I'm like, ohyah, ovis who won?

Speaker 6 (36:52):
So I had a wild Stallions type of weekend.

Speaker 8 (36:53):
Oh man, did you guys see Tom Brady was down
there on the field reporting during the championship.

Speaker 2 (36:59):
Really getting some repsit.

Speaker 8 (37:01):
Yeah, he walked up to the booth, he went down
with the mic.

Speaker 2 (37:05):
How do you look?

Speaker 6 (37:06):
You look like skinny like Tom Brady, handsome.

Speaker 1 (37:12):
Hand, some squid word a little bit, yeah, something like that.
But yeah, so, hey, Birmingham Stallions. They're saying that there's
gonna be you know, there'll be guys that use that
league effectively and they'll they'll get tryouts for teams and
it'll it'll be it'll be used in an effective way.
So I just wonder if people actually pay attention to

(37:34):
the games other than just have it be great tape
for these guys, because right now, just great tape for
these guys too, you know, pitch their you know, their
NFL teams with their agent. You know, I'll be honest.
I had it on, Rich, I had it on. I wasn't. Yeah,
I had it on, but I wasn't really watching it,
you know. And if it gets your attention and good,
if you enjoyed it, ann great, But I did have

(37:55):
it on, So yeah, I hope you had a stallion.
Absolutely sort of weak. And again the sad story about
Mookie Bett's hand fracture, broken hand. He's out until further notice,
no sign of him coming back anytime soon. But we're
live from the tiraq dot com studios and we got
last one Standing next hour again your chance to win
some prizes here on the show, giving away some swiggies.

(38:19):
Plus we already talked about the Mavericks. But I am
excited about the game tonight, probably going out with some
friends here in Jersey since I'm in town to watch
the game. Even more reason to say why not drag
it out? Just gives you something to do.

Speaker 4 (38:31):
Well because if they win tonight, then the intrigued is like, oh,
game six in Dallas, then you start they just start
playing you know these old mind games with yourself, like
and then they could push a game seven and then who.

Speaker 1 (38:42):
Yeah, but dude, if they win convincingly like they did
last game, then it's like mate, whoa momentum shift a
little bit and you don't know what Porzingis is up to,
so you know, anything could be a momentum shift. We
discussed that with your Mets, like how they turned it
around out of nowhere.

Speaker 2 (38:57):
Well, we're gonna get to all that.

Speaker 4 (38:59):
And like you said some last ones standing, did you
go to and I'm asking the general you anyone want
to chime in or Danny g Sam, Dan Bayer Cavino spot,
did you guys go to any of your high school
or college reunions?

Speaker 1 (39:17):
Yes, you should unless you're a weenie, unless you have
some weird, crazy resentment and I not theice. Probably people
in the studio like, no I didn't go. Yeah, I
want to know the story. I do, because if you're
sort of pumped and you had friends and you're doing well,
then why wouldn't you go for a good time, unless,
of course, you live on the other side of the
world and it's just not worth your money. I do

(39:39):
understand that that's understandable, that is totally understandable. But I say, yes,
I went to my ten year high school reunion. I
went to my twenty high school reunion rich and I
hate to date myself, but believe it or not, I
know you're thinking, dude, you look so great. How in
the world could you have your thirty year reunion coming up?
And I do why? I know that sounds gross.

Speaker 2 (40:00):
We were way younger.

Speaker 1 (40:01):
I know. Isn't that gross?

Speaker 3 (40:03):
Guy?

Speaker 1 (40:03):
Yeah, it's gross. And I'll tell you what. I haven't
heard of people about it. But if they were to
do it, why wouldn't I go?

Speaker 2 (40:09):
Damn by you were? You raised your hand?

Speaker 1 (40:11):
There?

Speaker 2 (40:12):
Did you go?

Speaker 9 (40:12):
Or no?

Speaker 5 (40:13):
I was a Weani according to Cavino, because I didn't go.

Speaker 2 (40:17):
There is the wei damn biby.

Speaker 1 (40:18):
I'll tell you why, Dan, Because let's say we went
to school together. It'd be great to see you man,
just for that minute. And I know closed the yearbook.
Who cares? With social media? You see people? And if
I didn't care about you, then why do I care
about you now? I don't know? Something brings you together? Yeah, somehow,
it's like that brat Pack documentary. They hadn't seen each
other in thirty years, but there was something there that still.

Speaker 2 (40:42):
Had them.

Speaker 1 (40:44):
They shared a moment together.

Speaker 2 (40:46):
Yeah, that was the moment.

Speaker 4 (40:48):
I guess a lot of people do say if I
didn't care about you, then what do I care about
you now?

Speaker 2 (40:52):
And I hate that mentality.

Speaker 1 (40:53):
And I'll tell you why, because we all grow, we
all change, we all mature, and I'll be honest. I
went to my tenuere and a couple years back when
I had my twenty I went to my twenty and
ten and I really enjoyed it and I ended up
talking to people.

Speaker 2 (41:08):
Believe it or not, that I didn't talk too much
in high school.

Speaker 1 (41:11):
Which you know, I don't want people to think that
we're the guys who were like super p I was
sort of reluctant, like like whatever. But I really did
have a good time. That's the thing I'm coming from
perspective of, you know, I'm glad I went. I'm not
one that's like super excited about it. I'm glad I
went because I had a good time.

Speaker 4 (41:29):
And you know, a lot of people say, well, I
don't want to see those people. You know, you go
to a bar on any given day there's one hundred
strangers in the room instead of one hundred strangers. Would
it kill you if those hundred people happen to be
people from your past.

Speaker 2 (41:42):
That you might be like, Hey, Doug, haven't seen.

Speaker 4 (41:45):
You in twenty years. Amazing I see on Facebook, but
how the hell are you. So there's a story about
Patrick Mahomes and reunions.

Speaker 2 (41:52):
We'll get to next. Hang tight, give me non Rich
