as is Jason Stewart and Isaac Low and cron is
at the news desk. Yeah, let's wrap up the week
(00:54):
having a good time here on Fox Sports Radio. If
you didn't last week and he didn't hear the news,
Happy Gilmore. Two forty six point seven million viewers watched
the new movie on Netflix, the largest ever for a
in the United States. For a Netflix opening, forty six
(01:17):
point seven million viewers watched Happy Gilmore two. And when
you watched Happy Gilmore two, you were probably pointing out
all the cameos in the show, But there was one
name that you may have missed because you didn't know
that you were watching him. And he joins us right now.
You know him from his great days of playing on
the PGA Tour. Six time PGA Tour winner, now turned
(01:42):
pseudo actor playing the role of Happy Gilmore's stand in
for Happy Gilmore two, Hunter Mayhon joins the program here
on Fox Sports Radio. Hello, Hunter, great to talk to
you again.
Speaker 5 (01:55):
How are you very good? That was quite an introduction.
I appreciate that. Thank you well.
Speaker 2 (02:00):
I did not know about this. This was kept under
wraps and only after the movie was revealed did we
know that you were in this role. So, how in
the world do you get approached to do this for
Happy Gilmore too? Who approaches you? How do you end
up being the stand in to Adam Sandler?
Speaker 5 (02:23):
Yeah? So I think, I mean they were obviously they
were shooting the movie and this was at the end
of September, like the ober. I got a My agent
called me and she had like a bewildered sort of
tone ner voice. She's like, I got she's like the
Happy Mass and team called out, they're doing Happy Gilmore obviously,
(02:46):
and they need She's like, I think they need like
a swing person. She's like, she's not. They didn't explain
it very well, and I'm guessing somebody who maybe doesn't
no golf that well called her and kind of talked
to her about it. But I said, I think they
just want me to swing for him or be there
on the golf course. And I was kind of surprised
because I figured someone could do it right. It wouldn't
(03:07):
be that difficult to kind of get the stuff on
and go swing it. But I said, well, I'm super interested.
That's all amazing. But I was coaching high school golf.
We had a tournament the next past, this EPO on Saturday,
and so I got to leave on Sunday. We got
a two day tournament and it's a big tournament because
it's where we hold state in about about six months later,
(03:28):
so I said, hold on, let me see if I
can get some my assistant down there. I'll tell the
school I can't leave the kids just kind of hanging randomly.
Luckily we got it all sorted. I left on a
Tuesday and showed up Wednesday morning, got all dressed up
in the jerseys and the Adidas and Adidas pants, got
(03:49):
the boots on, got the beard on, got the hair
all colored, and started making some swings. And by Friday
they said, I got I got the job, and I'm
going to be there for the next six weeks. And
just basically when Adams stepped on the golf course, I
stepped on the golf course. And if I'm needed, I'm needed.
If I'm not, I'm not. But I got to be
there ready for whatever you know, the movie needs.
Speaker 2 (04:10):
That's amazing. So you like, your role was way more
than you know, even Xander Schaffley and Ricky Fowler doing
their back and forth or like, you're there for basically
the entire film. Correct.
Speaker 5 (04:22):
Well, so I was there for like a s about
six weeks. But this is a big shoot, Like everything
from what I gathered about this movie was big. They
they they had to make it right, and they had
to make it good. There's so much they've never done sequel.
There was so much momentum there was so much kind
of want for the movie, and then all of a
sudden you sort of saw him and from early on
(04:44):
pictures and it just started to kind of go from there,
and so I think the pressure mounted. But it was
a big shoot, like it was long. It was at
least three months, I think of shooting in a different locations,
in different places. So it was a big old movie.
And I think you kind of saw that on the
on Netflix.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
Yeah, Hunter mayhon joining us here on Fox Sports Radio.
You know, I'm from PGA Tour days. Which you may
not have known, was that he was the body double
to Adam Chandler in Happy Gilmore too.
Speaker 4 (05:09):
Hunter, thank you for joining us. You're speaking like a
true body double. I gotta know how many times did
you practice that swing? Because Happy Gilmore swing is not
a normal golf swing. How many times did you practice that?
Speaker 5 (05:23):
Yeah? So after I got the call, my wife was like,
go get a club right now. You need to start practicing.
You need there. They were gonna want you to swing,
and they want you to swing like hey, and then
I kind of at this moment, I was like, I'm
not really sure what they wanted because, like I said,
it wasn't very clear, but she's like, you got to start,
this is what they want. And so I actually sent
in a swing prior, just on the range. I was
(05:48):
actually a high school tournament and just made a few.
But it took me. I mean, I talked on Saturday,
I practiced on Sunday, and practiced almost every day just
to sort of get because Adams swing is actually pretty
unique and it's pretty obvious that it's him right. It's
got that fall, fall through and everything in the footwork.
I watched the first movie. I talked to people when
(06:09):
I was there. We saw Adam probably on a Thursday,
and he kind of talked about it briefly and so
kind of went through the different steps of it. But
getting the steps down it's a it's a weird move
because you're walking forward, but you got to take the
quote backwards and so that kind of takes you out
of your momentum. So it's it's something you need to practice,
if I you know, to make it look right and
(06:29):
to look good. And I was hitting live balls a
lot of the time there, so I wanted to make
sure I got good contact and control the ball as
best I could.
Speaker 2 (06:38):
Hunter Mahon joining us here at Conveno and Rich on
Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 6 (06:41):
Hey, Hunter, I know that being around all those all
those comic actors and the cameos and whatnot, is there
like a story that you could tell us that didn't
make the film, an exchange or maybe an improvisation that's
radio friendly that you could share with us. The one
thing that sticks out.
Speaker 5 (07:00):
Most, well, a few things. One is like it was
written very specific, which I was surprised about, Like Adam
and Tim Harley, like they wrote the movie as you
almost saw it, like all the jokes and everything, like
it was very detailed. It was not a whole lot
of making it up, which kind of surprised me because
(07:22):
there were so many incredible people on it. I thought
it was interesting. It was like love it really made
Adam laugh. That was really funny. Just his small little
scene in that kind of two tier driving range, like
Adam was dying it. You could tell like that didn't
need to be in the movie, but you could tell
like Adam loved him and wanted him in it because
he's just funny. He's just walking around and he's funny.
(07:44):
And that was for us that was cool because we
were that was like one day it took all day,
and so on that day we were just hitting balls
on the range half the day and so love it
is on there hitting balls and we're like filming is
swaying and we're talking about it. Adams hitting balls and
he's like, my knee hurts. I can't really swing them
as well. And I practice as much as I want.
So that was really cool from my perspective, just watching
(08:06):
him play, I thought, uh, there was Marcelo. I think Fremandez,
who played Esteban, was hilarious. Like he just had a
very small kind of click kind of two scenes, but
he was so funny, just like put him in the movie,
like he was making at him crack up. We were
all just laughing just I mean, he had like two lines,
(08:26):
but they were It was just amazing. He was just
really physically funny, and the way he moved, the way
he talked, and just everything about him was hilarious. I
thought those two guys to me, were just amazing.
Speaker 2 (08:37):
I don't know if you crossed pass by the way.
Hunter Mayhan joining us here on Fox Sports Radio on
Cavino and Rich. She's Monty Blaio, So I'm Dan Bayer.
Jason Stewart's here, I was a glowing crown. Iowa Sam
sitting in for the guys today. I don't know if
you've got a chance to cross pass as Hunter was
the body double to Adam Sandler and Happy Gilmour two.
I loved Verne Lundquist, Like, so, like when you watched
(08:57):
the movie, like, did you did you know Verne's lines?
Did you know all the lines? Was the movie still
funny to you as you rewatched it? What was that experience?
Speaker 5 (09:06):
Like? Yeah, no, so I didn't see a lot of
what you saw. I mean I was it was funny because,
like I said, the movie's a big movie, had multiple sets,
it was in multiple places. Sure, I didn't know Vern
was going to be doing it. I knew there was
always rumors of like Eminem and post Malone and kind
of different people that were going to be in the movie.
But that's I thought, like Vern was a great example
(09:27):
and Scotty and everybody how much people love this movie
and they just went all for it, Like Scotty getting
arrested and Vern's cursing on the show. I mean, everybody
went all in. They did not hide from anything, and
they you know, they just Adam just convinced them like,
this is gonna be great, this is gonna be funny,
and this is gonna be gonna make the movie so
much better. And that was so cool is you saw
(09:49):
everyone just went all in and just had so much
fun with it.
Speaker 2 (09:53):
It was an amazing, amazing time watching.
Speaker 4 (09:55):
Obviously Hatch you know all the golfers, But what about
the other cameos. Did you have any experiences with Bad Bunny,
with Travis Kelcey, with Kelsey Plumb.
Speaker 5 (10:07):
Yeah, so that was cool that the Tournament champions scene,
it was so fun because they just they put me
in it. When I was there, they were like, we're
just going to put you in it since you're obviously
an established golfer and you should be. You would be
in there anyway, so you should be in there. So
they put me in it, which was awesome because I
knew Travis was going to be in it. Yeah, it
was awesome to see Bad Bunny. I heard he was
(10:27):
he's really wanted to get in acting and he was
really kind of not begging for the role, but he
really put himself out there and wanted to be in
this movie. And it was great about him. He was
fantastic made it look easy. Kelsey was awesome. He was
just such a pro. Like I don't know, you see
him in many different lights, but he's someone who gets
it and makes it look very easy, and he understands
(10:48):
that this isn't his movie. He's here to do his job,
and then packed it in such a great way. He
was such a pro. Got a good picture with him.
You know, my wife friend, I'm pretty upset and didn't
go up and take a picture with him, but I
did because he was amazingly nice and totally he tuck
to all the extras and all that. You know, just
imagine a roomful of dudes and Travis Kelcey's walking in
(11:10):
there and you ask you have a lot of questions,
a lot and may he handled it incredibly well. So
everyone on set you follows Adams Adam's lead, which is
we're gonna be gracious and nice and we're going to
make sure that everyone is a part of the movie
because they are a part of the movie, and he
makes everyone feel totally special.
Speaker 2 (11:27):
You know, this may be a stupid question. I feel
a little stupid asking, but did you know when it
was you in watching the film or because I was
I didn't watch it until Sunday night, so I had
i'd known that you were in and so I'm like, okay,
I'm gonna try to try to figure out where I
could see it was you, And honestly I couldn't, like
would you be able to tell like in like that's me,
(11:48):
that's Adam, that's me. Were you able to tell yourself?
Speaker 5 (11:52):
Yeah, there were some some scenes I knew they're kind
of quick. I mean, you got to think they had
eight nine hours of footage of hitting this movie, so
there was a lot to cut down. I was on
the course hit we hit some you know, we spent
like an hour trying to like stuff shots and they
were trying to get slow mode cameras of shots. They
were trying to get the balls, you know, digging into
(12:13):
the dirt and just massive divits and sand shots, and
there was all kinds of like other stuff that was
going on kind of while they were shooting the movie.
There's some long distance like PGA tour camera stuff that
I hit and they're like hit it short right in
the water, you know, shaking low beers and like so
there's like a ton of stuff they shot that they
(12:34):
didn't use of of me. But there's a few few
definite times when like the thing is spinning around at
the very end on that green that's me from the
from the top view, when me and with me spitting
around there because I was on there for long enough
and Adam's like, are you okay? And I'm just giving
them thumbs up because I've got to be a good
soldier because I'm not feeling great. But he knew that.
(12:55):
And there's just little things like that, like my feet
and the swings and slow mos, certain stuff like that.
But there's a ton of the you know, there was
a ton cut out of that because it's a movie,
that's what you do. But it was cool, I mean,
just to be on set every day. Yeah, watch how
these things work. And it's so slow and painful at
times for everyone, you can tell. But boy, they had
(13:18):
a vision and they just kind of kept working with
that and it came out really cool.
Speaker 2 (13:21):
Well, you know, just to follow up on that, so
you got not to give away the ending or anything,
but for all those of us that have all seen it,
and a lot of us have that final scene, let's
just say that there's some movement you got, you kind
of got, ill you got sick from just dizzy. What
was the what was the feeling?
Speaker 5 (13:37):
Well, that green was real, like they you know, it's
kind of funny because it looked bigger than it really was.
Like that they made that. They made that thing go
up and down to move all around and spin with
some with some heat. So that's what was really interesting
and amazing because sometimes it looks really fake, but it
really wasn't. That whole steam was real and that green
(13:59):
was real. Nothing was humming. That was not like more
efficient by any means. And so yeah, we were on
that thing spinning around and around, and it's like we
got to get perfect angle the sun. The heights they
want to see if they get the ball moving. So
there was a lot of shots taken. More so than
that you know three second shot that you see on TV.
It was like minutes and minutes and minutes to make
(14:21):
sure it gets right and you know, got to make
it look perfect for the big screen.
Speaker 2 (14:25):
I swear all of us just thought, AI, right, that's all.
That's probably what we thought. Then, yeah, you took one
for the team. Well, well it was an awesome, awesome movie.
We enjoyed it. We'll watch it again and again. I
hope you get some royalties from this, Like, I don't
know what the deal is, but I'll be looking out
for you. And yeah, it's always great to talk to you.
Thanks for shedding some light on what is likely going
(14:48):
to be something you'll never forget. We appreciate it. Hunter,
good to talk to you.
Speaker 5 (14:50):
Man, Thank you. Appreciate you. Guys.
Speaker 2 (14:53):
All right, go on, we'll talk to you soon. Hunter
mayh PJ Tour, six time PJ Tour Champion, now body
double to Adam Sandler, Happy Gilmore too.
Speaker 3 (15:02):
So awesome. I you know, I have acted.
Speaker 4 (15:05):
We've talked about this, and I have friends who act,
and I have a friend who was the body double
for like Lady Gaga in American Horror Story and now
she's Jennifer Amiston's body double for The Morning Show. And
so it's so funny because when you ask, like could
you tell when it's when it's you versus you know,
actual Adam Sandler, you should not be able to tell
the difference, Like you should not be able to And
(15:26):
it's usually when they're walking away and it's like the
back of their head when like there's a scene in
American Horror Story Lady Gaga, I think if I remember correctly,
it's been a while, but she kills someone or she
chokes someone, and it's like, that wasn't Lady Gaga's hand,
that was my friend's hand who did the killing or
like the stabbing or whatever it was. It's whenever you
don't see their face, typically it's the body double that's.
Speaker 2 (15:47):
And you're one hundred percent right like with that, like
we shouldn't be able to We shouldn't be.
Speaker 4 (15:51):
And I couldn't count exactly, and they're not gonna make
it where you squint, you're like, was that him? They
don't want that. I wanted to look as smooth as possible.
So typically, like if they're walking wave, it's just a
body part. It's probably the body double, especially because Adam
Sandler not there's people who you know in the business
who are lazy and don't want to be on set.
They want to be on set as little amount as possible.
(16:12):
Adam Sandler situation was, he wrote it, he produced it,
he directed it, like he had other things to do.
It wasn't that he didn't want to be on set.
He was running the show, sure, and so I'm sure
he did a lot of a lot more work than
maybe even a typical body double because of how much.
Speaker 3 (16:25):
Work Adam Sailor had to do to get this, you.
Speaker 2 (16:28):
Know, going Jason Stewart's been on set of TV shows,
so you know a little bit of the run around.
But it was interesting just to hear how to give
his perspective and just a life on set of a
major production.
Speaker 6 (16:40):
I think what came out was like and he alluded
to this, but it's something that I think people don't
quite understand unless you have shot something in that the
first couple of days you're just kind of like in
awe of how the whole thing works, and you're seeing
people that you're familiar with, actors and whatnot, and then
just the way things work and how it's all about
(17:03):
hurry up and wait and so much patience, and like,
I think that he experienced that and that, and then
you get over that, and probably by day three or
four he got kind of used to it. But that's
the thing that I think that most people who aren't
in the business that either kind of get hired into
for a day or two, they're just kind of mesmerized
by how everything works, and it's really neat to experience.
Speaker 2 (17:23):
The funny thing that I thought. And I don't think
that Hunter's gone. I don't think you would disagree with this.
Hunter may looks nothing like Adam.
Speaker 3 (17:30):
Sandler, absolutely, you know, like like like like.
Speaker 4 (17:32):
And so it doesn't matter.
Speaker 2 (17:34):
No, you're right, it doesn't matter. And Sam sent us
one of the stills that Hunter had of him and
his happy gilmore you know, get up and you know
he looks pretty close, but there's a lot of makeup
and a lot of stuff to be done. And yeah,
just fooled me, like I couldn't tell on camera.
Speaker 4 (17:50):
They were like, is it the same height, same kind
of you know weight perfect will make you look like him?
Height is what they really want to be right on
the money.
Speaker 2 (17:58):
Yeah, he provided a lot of insight and just to
know that the end of the movie wasn't fake. Is
now something that I'll go back and watch and take
a look. I totally thought a lot of that was
AI Star sure, and then stuff that you can do
you know a technology now the days I never would
have thought even though like the TGL has their greens
(18:20):
that move up and down that we see the indoor
thing like this was like a different version of that,
And I just thought for what they did and what
they were trying to do that it would be that
it was just somehow imaginary and they were able to
make it but green screen or something like that. But
apparently that wasn't the case.
Speaker 6 (18:36):
That was fun, That was a fun conversation. Yes, I
kind of wanted and I didn't think it was like
necessarily relevant. But the biggest challenge for me and Monci.
I don't know if you thought this, but I've been
on sets with amazing craft service, and then there was
like sets with like kind of their own sweet factory
that's like all candy and chocolate and then they refill
(18:57):
it when it gets low. It's hard not to gain
ten pounds absolutely on craft service alone. Yeah, I was
just wondering what Hunter's experience was with them.
Speaker 4 (19:05):
You know, I have a feeling that they had a
great craft services because it's absolutely you know what I'm saying,
because of the stars, but like you're right, they it's
hard to stay away from the goodies when you're on set.
Speaker 2 (19:15):
Plus Hunter was on tour for you know, well over
a decade, so they didn't have bad food at the
player's lounge or anything like that. So I'm sure it
was up to the level.
Speaker 4 (19:26):
He sounded also so like giddy about it still just
so well that happy about it.
Speaker 2 (19:31):
That's the other part of it is so all of
the players that are there are either his contemporaries or
guys that he may have mentored, like Ricky Fowler, you know,
played at Oklahoma State. They're all in the movie. They're
into their career. So he's not gonna get I mean,
he was competing against these guys, He's not going to
get awestruck by any of the players and knows them
on a personal level, friends with some of them. But
(19:52):
it's different when you cross into that different world. So
even though he's an athlete, he's in awe of Travis
Kelcey and s his wife would you know, would have
killed him if he didn't get a picture obviously working
with Adam Sandler. When he gets the offer, he's like,
oh my goodness, I want to you know, this is
something that once in a lifetime opportunity. Yeah. Yeah, it
is neat to see that because he because he was
(20:13):
you know, he was a Ryder Cup Teams the whole deal,
like he was he was really really good when he
was on the PGA tour, and it's neat to see
that you can get awestruck by other spots.
Speaker 4 (20:25):
Absolutely, what a great experience.
Speaker 2 (20:27):
Yes, yes, glad that he was able to join us.
And I'm sure more people will watch the movie if
they haven't already this weekend, or will letd up going
for a second serving, and some may actually finish the
movie now to see that final scene, to see if
they can get to the get to the rotating green.

Speaker 2 (20:55):
Cavino and Rich here on Fox Sports Radio It's a Friday.
Thanks on her Man for joining us here on Fox
Sports Radio discussing his role as Adam Sandler's body double
and Happy Gilmore too.
Speaker 3 (21:06):
Yeah, that was awesome.
Speaker 4 (21:07):
Again, he just sounded so giddy about it.
Speaker 3 (21:09):
Right, it's so cute.
Speaker 2 (21:10):
I wonder if his wife could tell you know, the.
Speaker 4 (21:14):
Shots are right.
Speaker 3 (21:15):
Maybe, but again you're not supposed to.
Speaker 2 (21:17):
Yes, if you're so close to the person, you know
when it's that's your shoulder.
Speaker 4 (21:22):
Yes, I sleep next to it every single day.
Speaker 3 (21:24):
That is your shoulder.
Speaker 4 (21:25):
I know it is.
Speaker 2 (21:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (21:27):
No, actually, honey, that was Adam Sandler, How do you
not know my shoulder? I?
Speaker 2 (21:31):
All right, I would I would think that she she do.
And again, I'm gonna definitely watch the final scene to
see if I can decipher or not. The things that
the Chicago Bears have to decipher is is Caleb Williams
going to be their generational quarterback that they had hoped
when they took him with the first overall pick in
the twenty twenty four NFL Draft. She's Monty Bellagio. So
(21:53):
I'm Dan Byer in for Cavino and Rich and Caleb
Williams made comments in talking about the upcoming season saying
that he faces no pressure entering year number two in
Chicago in your number one under new head coach Ben Johnson,
telling Waddell and Sylvia on ESPN Radio in Chicago, quote,
pressure is not a thing for me. I don't think
(22:15):
of it that way. Here's more from the Bears quarterback.
Speaker 7 (22:18):
Pressure isn't a pressure is not a thing for me.
I don't, you know, think of life that way in
the situation that I'm in, and so, uh, you know,
we keep chugging along, and you know there's gonna be
ups and downs, and it's not you know, it's not
my job to care about what the outside, you know, noises.
Speaker 2 (22:33):
And things like that.
Speaker 7 (22:34):
My job is take care of everything in here and
go out there and play, you know, And I didn't
you know, I uh, I know we didn't win as
many you know games as we wanted to last year,
but you know I didn't. Uh I didn't go twenty
and twenty in interceptions and things like that. So you know,
take it for what you want. But you know, pressure
(22:54):
is uh previlege. Pressure is a privilege. But you know,
in the situation that I'm at, I don't think I
have pressure.
Speaker 2 (23:00):
Interesting angle to look at it. I think that anytime
you're an NFL quarterback that you're under some sort of pressure.
Very very few extreme instances when you're a quarterback in
the National Football League are you not facing some sort
of pressure. Whether he feels it or not may be
a different story, Manzi, But there is pressure on Caleb
(23:22):
Williams in year two, especially with a new head coach.
And I also think that there's pressure other ways. Maybe
it's better for him to deal with it. But to
think that there's no pressure, I just don't think that's accurate.
Speaker 3 (23:34):
Of course, it's not accurate.
Speaker 4 (23:36):
Of course, there's tons of pressure and it's different with
every quarterback. But coming into the season for Caleb Williams
last year, the expectation was already high. Like we talk
about cam Ward, how there's not a lot of attention
for a number one overall pick the way we've seen
in other drafts. He has all had the attention since
being at USC. Last year obviously didn't live up to
(23:58):
maybe some people's expect it was only year one. But
now you have a new coach, you have new players
around you, and you're in a division that is really
fun and exciting, and so you kind of have a
lot of pressure. Not just you, Caleb Williams, you the team,
the Chicago Bears have the pressure to compete in that division.
That is probably one of the most exciting coming into
(24:20):
the season for me.
Speaker 2 (24:21):
For as much of a train wreck as we felt
the Bear season was last year, and the way that
they lost to the Commanders and other things that happened,
and the Lions and Ben Johnson running their fumble trick play,
you know, kind of making a mockery of him. Caleb
is right in the comments and saying that I didn't
throw twenty and twenty. He didn't throw twenty interceptions only
through six did throw twenty touchdowns last year, so there
(24:43):
is there is something with that. There did seem to
be lapses at times if you felt that there was
cohesion within the offense Dj Moore at times you were
wondering if he was getting frustrated and at times checking
out because of the frustration. So all of that needs
to be corrected, but it ultimately goes back to the quarterback.
And I think your point about the division is fair,
(25:06):
and I think Caleb Williams. You mentioned cam Ward, and
cam Ward wasn't top ten in overall prospects on some
draft boards even though he went number one overall. There's
that obvious pressure of being a quarterback. But Caleb Williams
not only was the first overall pick last year, and
we felt that he was the first overall pick as
soon as the previous season ended, but he's now in
(25:26):
a draft class that is Jaydon Daniels in it, and
like it or not, you're compared to other quarterbacks that
were in your draft class during that time. So there's
a weird new pressure that guess what Caleb Williams is
actually going to have to compete and by all accounts,
and I know it's early, but Drake May has gotten
pretty positive reviews in New England as he's entering year
(25:46):
number two. Is they also have a new regime with
Mike Vrabel taking over. So now with Caleb Williams, it's
not only dealing with Bears fans, it's not only dealing
with the division that you talk about. But I think
there's also a conversation that in his play, we'll do
the talking, but a conversation of just that draft class alone.
And I haven't talked about the other quarterbacks of Bo
Nicks and Michael Pennox junior and who knows what happens
(26:08):
with J. J. McCarthy within that division, but it's becoming
a really, really good quarterback draft class, and when you're
number one, there's pressure from it from the get go.
Speaker 4 (26:17):
Absolutely excellent points with the all those other quarterbacks that
are going to try to prove something. So him acting
like it's not a big I'm not bothered by that.
Like if you need to say that to yourself and
approach the season this way, I'm not bothered by it.
But I hope when you are alone in your thoughts,
you actually do know the pressure that you have coming
(26:38):
into the season. But I have no problem him saying
it out loud, But there.
Speaker 2 (26:42):
Were you do you get nervous? Like do you ever
get nervous before Tuesday night volleyball games? Do you ever
get nervous?
Speaker 7 (26:49):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (26:49):
I like sometimes yeah, like excitement, Yeah, yeah, I get
excited and nervous sometimes, you know, when we're about to
do a show all that. Yeah, like it's still happening.
Speaker 2 (26:56):
I know that's not what he's talking about. Like, you know,
he's talking about the pressure, nerves, But sometimes there are
people who are like, I don't feel nervous, and I
just don't. Like that's so foreign to me. You know,
I almost think that something's missing sometimes if you don't
have that. I've heard other people say that as well.
That's not necessarily what he's saying. He plays it pretty cool.
Came off of a season where almost everything went wrong
(27:18):
and still thirty five hundred yards mentioned the twenty touchdowns
and six interceptions, and now you're gonna have not only
you're going to have an offensive coordinator for an entire season,
something the Bears didn't have last year, but now your
head coach has been brought in to make sure that
you work. There's a lot of time, and honestly, in Chicago,
the bars set so low because of the awful quarterbacks
(27:38):
that they've had in their history, it doesn't take a
lot to top it. But when we talk about the
grand scheme of things, division, draft class, and really the
rest of the NFL, there's still a ways to go.
For Caleb Williams, the Wrigley Field news not necessarily surprising
and have been out there for a while, and Rob
Manfred made comments about it. Manfred is also on record
(27:58):
as saying the twenty twenty eight All Star Game could
be headed to Toronto, making those comments previously not officially announced.
But you know there's some events that are set up
five years in advance, and some golf it's ridiculous US Opens. Honestly,
we know where the twenty fifty one US Open is
going to be. That's how ridiculous it is. Yes, I know,
(28:19):
I know the twenty fifty one US Open will be
at Oakland Hills Country Club in Michigan. But it's it's absurd.
But all Star Games, we only know Philadelphia next season
and then twenty twenty seven Wrigley Field, and then twenty
twenty eight, likely Toronto. But you know, the NBA doesn't
do that with All Star Games either. They don't schedule
(28:39):
six out. You know, it's just maybe like a year
or two in advance. But that's what you've got for
Major League Baseball. Hasn't been at Wrigley, Yes, in thirty
five years.
Speaker 4 (28:49):
Well, it's exciting. I can't get over what you just said.
Though about golf, I'm still stuck on that.
Speaker 3 (28:55):
There's reasons for plan for twenty fifty one.
Speaker 2 (28:58):
Yeah, there's the agreements. They may agreements with clubs for
multi years.
Speaker 4 (29:03):
Can I book a flight already for twenty fifteen?
Speaker 6 (29:04):
Actually, guys, I'm concerned. I'm actually at the US off
inside at twenty fifty one Oakland Hills twenty fifty two
canceled due to meteor.
Speaker 2 (29:12):

We are in for Kivino and Rich who were in
earlier today for the Herd on Fox Sports Radio, sitting
in for Colin Cowhart. So we appreciate you hanging out
with Mancia myself and Jason Stewart, and I was samon
Isaac Lowencron and a very special guest of ours has
been here. Is we have revealed the nominees so far.
We're seven months into twenty twenty five Athlete of the Year,
(31:40):
and we've been fortunate enough that President Trump has been here.
Speaker 4 (31:44):
And he's still hanging around.
Speaker 2 (31:45):
Yeah, like like one of the nominees that he mentioned,
who were one of the nominees earlier President Trump that
we had that we named, oh Tony there is one
of the nominees for Athlete of the Year. Others were
Saquon Barkley of the philadel and Jack Sawyer defensive end
at Ohio State helping them win a national title. Let's
(32:07):
find out a few more of the nominees so far. Again,
this is we've got five more months to complete. Who
is actually gonna be Athlete of the Year. But when
you have President Trump available to you, you're gonna take
advantage of it. All right, Let's go to our next nominee, President.
Speaker 8 (32:25):
Junior Guard Denzel Aberdeen. Wis Denzel? I love that name,
Denzel Aberdeen. I have a place in Aberdeen, Scotland.
Speaker 2 (32:38):
I like that name. The Aberdeen it's a bit of
a shocker, I will admit. I think there are other
members of the Florida Gators that we knew that won
a national championship, cutting down the nets, beating Houston in
that championship game. But Denzel Aberdeen, I mean, if if
the president's got a place in Scotland, why not make
him a nominee? Right? It seems only fitting. So Denzel Aberdeen,
(33:03):
it's your lucky day. You're a nominee for Caratulation Athlete
of twenty twenty five. I think we have a couple
of more, don't we Yes, yes, we do.
Speaker 3 (33:11):
Perfect.
Speaker 2 (33:11):
Let's go to another nominee for potential Fox Sports Radio
Athlete of twenty twenty five.
Speaker 8 (33:20):
Your Receptions leader, Ambica Buca.
Speaker 2 (33:25):
Okay, I'm backa Abuca. All right? There he is, He's
right there, Yep, there he is. Gradulations, part of that
Ohio state national championship team. Also a first round pick
of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Is they try to get
to a Super Bowl now without Tom Brady and Baker Mayfield.
Dinged up a little bit in camp, but hey should
(33:45):
be all right, fine, Yeah, it should should be fine.
All right? Speaking of dinged up, let's go to our
final final nominee seven months in of our Athlete of
the Year of twenty twenty five.
Speaker 8 (34:02):
To a tag oh val Yah.
Speaker 2 (34:05):
Alright, a tongue of ii loa.
Speaker 4 (34:08):
That's what we're talking about. Oh, I wasn't sure?
Speaker 2 (34:11):
I I I okay to uh tag oh val Yah.
Obviously limited because of injury. Nineteen touchdowns, seven interceptions last season.
Has it done a lot in twenty twenty five yet
still kind of an odd nomination that little bit. But again, nominees,
(34:33):
it's not a winner, just the nominee. You know, I
know that there's an honor, but yeah, a little different
out there. There's a bit of a curveball on that one.
Speaker 3 (34:40):
We're sure it's not Tua.
Speaker 2 (34:41):
We're sure it's who wasn't again President, who wasn't to
uh tag oh val Yah. Okay, all right.
Speaker 4 (34:48):
There it is, okay, all right, So we've confirmed to
a Togo vloa.
Speaker 3 (34:51):
Yeah, that is an interesting nomine.
Speaker 2 (34:53):
It sounds like me at the update desk like seven
years ago, trying to to.
Speaker 9 (34:58):
Uh tag Oh, maybe he's in store for a huge
like fall. You know, maybe this is like a predictive nominee.
Maybe two is gonna rip it up. He's ahead of
the game.
Speaker 2 (35:10):
I'll tell you what. I know exactly what happened because
I deal with it, Manta. You deal with that at
the news desk as well. Even when I write out
names phonetically, I get to the point and it's like
you get to the edge of the cliff, like are
you ready to jump or not? And so you stop
and pause, and then you know, the pause goes on
(35:30):
for way too long in your head, and so then
you just say whatever it says, even though you have
it phonetically written out in front of you. I have
been there, done that so many times, so I get
what the president is dealing with. I was Sam.
Speaker 9 (35:45):
Have you guys ever seen Tua's full name? So we
see too, a tongue of Ila. Yeah, yes, his full
name first of all, really long first name. His middle
name is just Donnie, and then his last name is
tongue of Iila. So it's like, uh, Tua, I can't.
Speaker 2 (35:59):
Said it before he has said it, Like, I don't
know if we've got time like to find it in
the two minutes, but I know that he has said
his full name before. I'm not even sure if we
can I mean I mean, we've already got President Trump,
We've paid him for two segments.
Speaker 4 (36:11):
Yes, so we appreciate that tag. I almost don't want
it written out phonetically for me because I feel like
the way I would write it phonetically is not maybe
how you would write it phonetically. So sometimes when somebody
like I'll see Isaac Lowencron likes to also write things
au phonetically, and I would look at him like that's
not how I would have written it phonetically, Like I
don't read it like that. I sometimes just rather let
(36:34):
me see the name without it phonetically.
Speaker 3 (36:36):
It throws me off, like g yes.
Speaker 2 (36:38):
Like I would write a j ee yes you know
so because when you put.
Speaker 4 (36:43):
A dash and then I will stop like that's what
causes me to when you see the dash as the pause.
Speaker 3 (36:47):
So it's like it doesn't work for me. Just leave
it and see what comes out.
Speaker 2 (36:50):
No, I get it. But there are your nominees, the nominees.
Speaker 3 (36:53):
Thank you so far, President.
Speaker 2 (36:57):
So great, Jason. Any of those shocking to you at all?
Anything anything surprising on those nominees? Uh?
Speaker 6 (37:07):
Yeah, the last one was definitely shocking. So just to
recap Saquon and Yes, leaders in the clubhouse.
Speaker 2 (37:14):
Right, Yeah, a Mecca Buca. Yeah, a Mecca Buca.
Speaker 8 (37:19):
Receptions leader Ambica.
Speaker 2 (37:25):
Again spelled out fanatically. Yes, I don't know if we're
going to get to to his full name, but unfortunately
he has said it before and and the problem is
is we've only got thirty seconds left in the show,
and it takes like thirty five seconds from the Yes,
it's like that town in England that's really really super long.
Speaker 4 (37:43):
Like a Latin name, you have like three last names,
a middle name, sometimes two first names.
Speaker 9 (37:47):
Oh, I just love that his middle name is just Donnie.
It's like really really long name.
Speaker 4 (37:51):
Donnie would have been cute.
Speaker 2 (37:56):
Yeah, that would have been fine.
Speaker 3 (37:57):
Yeah TD Oh my god, Yeah it would have worked.
Speaker 2 (38:00):
It would have worked the show and has flown by.
Have a great weekend, Jolliet. If you don't know what
You'll be back Monday to uh tag o Volley
