Max Schurzer. We mentioned it before.

Probably I hate to say it, but maybe the last
big start of his illustrious career Unless he keeps playing
or they move on. This is a big one for
Mad Max. So if you're a Max Schurzer fan, Max
Schurzer is forty one for the record, and so was
Aaron Rodgers, and Flacco is forty if you're keeping score

(01:28):
at home. So props to all the old guys, and
we say old respectfully.

Speaker 1 (01:33):
Old guys on the field, young guys in life.

Speaker 2 (01:35):
We're Cavino and Rich the youngest in the game, believe
it or.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
Not, and perspectives everything. Yeah, Danny g is here.

Speaker 2 (01:44):
We got the old guy, Dan Bayer hanging out with us,
and of course the very old guy, and we got
Iowa sack.

Speaker 1 (01:50):
By your invented fantasy football.

Speaker 2 (01:51):
People don't realize he was, you know what up Him
and Matt Berry were in a back room one day.

Speaker 1 (01:58):
You know, I just the Covino's older than me. That's
all that I know. That's all that I know matters.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
That is true, all right, So thank you guys very
much for hanging out with us. Now, before we talk,
show hay Otani and more MLB.

Speaker 1 (02:13):
Show hay Otani.

Speaker 2 (02:15):
Every Thursday, we throw it back and we do something
called old school Win fifty hits and super producer Danny
g reminded us sent us a cool meme that today
is National Boss's Day. So that could be in sports managers.
People that come to mind for you, could be in life,
could be your story, real life, fiction, it doesn't matter.
It could be ones that just stand out when you
think of boss, you think of who Boss?

Speaker 1 (02:36):
HOWK? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (02:37):
Boss tweet? No Ike of Bruce Springsteen, the Boss? Can
I tell you it's It's funny. You haven't even mentioned
it on or off the area yet. In the world
of sports, rest in peace the Boss. George Steinbrenner the
most demanding eye roll. Ye, you know, I feel like
there was a time in our childhood where depending on
the conversation he had, he would hire and fire Billy
Martin and Lou Panella back and forth. Yeah, you know what,

(02:59):
that might be the number one answer on the board
when it comes to sports bosses, right, turtleneck. Well, doctor
Jerry buss A is a close one up there, doctor
the late doctor buss as well. But Steinbrenner was, Yeah,
he'd fire you. You had to do it his way.
He had an expectation. He was very trump Like in
the way he managed his team and the way he

(03:22):
commanded respect. And I always found the funny that Larry
David flew out. I heard this on I believe Rich Eisen.
He flew Steinbrenner out to film the scenes for Seinfeld
because remember George Steinbrenner was on Seinfeld. Remember George Steinbrenner
was just not a good actor. And he had to

(03:44):
then break it to Steinbrenner like, I'm not gonna use
your You're on the show, but I'm not going.

Speaker 1 (03:50):
To use your voice, and.

Speaker 2 (03:54):
Yeah, so that the back of Steinbrenner's head was actually Steinbrenner. No,
it was Larry David by the voice of Larry David,
but he always showed him from behind. He had come
in to do some voice and voice working stuff for
the Steinbrenner roll, and Larry's like, yeah, just he's greated
a lot of things. Acting wasn't one of them, which
is which is wild, every one of them. Cal Zones,
National Boss's Day. Got a few stories and a few

(04:17):
people that come to mind for me, Danny j anyone
else in that conversation with doctor Buss and George Steinbrenner,
Is there a trifector? Is there a third like really
polarizing winning like Al Davis. Oh, of course, I gotta
go to you for that one out. Oh yeah, even
making that movie right now with Madden and Davis. I mean,
it's not professional sports, but it kind of is. Vince
McMahon's in there. No, I would say he has to

(04:39):
be in the conversation, Vince, I was on the phone.
Did you guys say Jerry Jones, Oh, Jerry Jerry. By
the way, we just named I think the list of
Jerry Jones, Al Davis, Vince McMahon, George Steinbrenner, and doctor Buss.

Speaker 1 (04:59):
That's your top five in sports entertainment.

Speaker 2 (05:01):
Right, I mean in the world of cartoons, honestly, because
this comes to mind. When you think of bosses. You
don't think of mister Slate or mister Spacey of spacely
Sprockets like you don't think of those guys from Hannah
Barbara j Yeah, of course, I think of the Hannah

(05:22):
Barbara bosses. You think of how pumped Fred was to
get out of work. You think of George Jets and
how you know how his boss is yelling at him
all the time. Hey, Sam, do your best. Mister Spacey,
it's that you're fired with a little I'm not. I
really don't know this character very well. I've never I
don't never done it. Mister Space. Let me listen to

(05:43):
this one real quick.

Speaker 1 (05:46):
All right, here we go. I'll give you my so
you know cartoons about.

Speaker 3 (05:56):
The big stories big Head really quick cove because co
has been watching the h He's watched it three times
probably the past two weeks.

Speaker 2 (06:03):
Boss Baby, Oh yeah, yeah, kids love that. Boss Baby's fantastic.
That is a good one. So I've worked for some
demanding people, very demanding people in my career, and a
few stories come to mind. One of my first radio bosses,
like you said, Rich, you had to do certain things
to get that airtime.

Speaker 1 (06:22):
Yeah, I tell you.

Speaker 2 (06:22):
My old radio boss said, you want airtime, You're my
cover story for when I cheated my wife. I'm like,
as a young man, I'm like, what the thing is,
we've all done stuff like that, right in a generation?
You can't because they'll like try to sue you or something.
He would say things like you could fill in afternoon Drive,
but Tuesday night you and I were with the movies
and having a drink.

Speaker 1 (06:40):
I'm like, sure it was bad before HR departments. Yeah,
before all that, right, I think there were no training videos,
nothing like that.

Speaker 2 (06:47):
I would do all sorts of personal things and personal
errands for my boss. If he needed me to pick
up his suits, I would do that. I needed to
go buy presents for you know, his kids, I would
do that. I remember one time I had to clear
out his whole attic because he was moving, so that
was his personal mover. Like, we did all sorts of
stuff like that just to get ahead in life and
to get that opportunity. But there was one time I

(07:09):
was working in radio promotions. Is a true story, and
it's a legendary story if you followed us for years.
It was at Metallica Tattoo the Earth or yeah, I
think it was a Metallica Tattoo Earth festival or like
an Osfest sort of show.

Speaker 1 (07:23):
Yeah, And it was a very metal show.

Speaker 2 (07:26):
And these metal fans didn't like commercial rock radio. They
liked all underground college radio, right, And.

Speaker 1 (07:33):
One dude.

Speaker 2 (07:35):
Stepped on our promotional vehicle, got up on it and
got everyone cheering. He was shaking the van back and forth,
and I'm there like I'm the station representative, and the
guy did the guy how do I say this?

Speaker 1 (07:49):
Number two?

Speaker 2 (07:50):
There was a number two on our vehicle and I'm like,
oh my goodness, and the boss made.

Speaker 1 (07:57):
Me clean it up, clean it up?

Speaker 2 (08:01):
Yeah, yeah exactly, So like not only was I offended,
but then I had to do that humiliated in front
of everybody.

Speaker 1 (08:08):
So I'll never forget it. Geez.

Speaker 2 (08:10):
If he was around nowadays, he'd tell you, I'm gonna
call Ice on you.

Speaker 4 (08:12):
Yo.

Speaker 1 (08:13):
Yeah right, So can I tell you you really, Karen?
You paid your dues, paid my dues.

Speaker 2 (08:18):
We all did, though it was a different time, and
I know the stories get even worse to further you
go back.

Speaker 1 (08:25):
But the bosses in TV and life.

Speaker 2 (08:28):
I think mister Angelino I believe was his name from
Jack Spistrow. Remember he used to work for mister Angelino Felipe.
He was tough on jazz. Yeah, he's coming and start
yelling at Jack all the time. But we mentioned it earlier,
Greese Company, Lumberg, you might be your number one TV
or movie answer.

Speaker 1 (08:47):
We have sort of a problem here.

Speaker 4 (08:49):
Yeah, you apparently didn't put one of the new cover
sheets on your TPS reports.

Speaker 2 (08:54):
It's funny because that's a cult classic, yet probably the
number one answer when it comes to bosses and TV
and entertainment I don't know if I'm just saying this
answer because of my sports fandom, but is it general
knowledge that before Steve Cohen bought the Mets, the Willponds
were the worst owners, like worst bosses? Like is that

(09:15):
a sentiment that non New Yorkers?

Speaker 1 (09:17):
Now? Yeah, I think so.

Speaker 2 (09:18):
But the money they got caught up in the schemes
and the Bernie madeoff and didn't want to spend money.
Snyder of the Redskins now Commander's terrible boss. By the way,
Bill Lumberg from the movie Office Space is played my
Gary Cole And side note, I've seen him at the
CBS right across the street up from over here, like recently.

Speaker 4 (09:39):
Really, yeah, if you could just go ahead and make
sure you'd do that from now on, that would be great.

Speaker 1 (09:46):
I'm like, there is Lumberg. I'm in line with Lumberg. Rich.

Speaker 3 (09:49):
How about the horrible owner the Dodgers had here in
southern California, Frank McCourt remember that, And I think he
still owns a piece of the parking lot. And he
went through a bad divorce and that was messy before
Magic Johnson and that big group took over.

Speaker 2 (10:02):
Did you guys watch the Whole Clippers documentary about Donald Star.
Oh yeah, and I'm asking you a question, since this
Boss's Day? Is it a total kissass move to buy
your boss a gift for let's say, the holidays or something.

Speaker 1 (10:16):
Do people still do that? Is that just the kind
gest holidays?

Speaker 3 (10:19):
Cool?

Speaker 2 (10:19):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (10:20):
I saw a Hallmark pop up for today, though, to
get them a boss's National Boss Day gift?

Speaker 1 (10:25):
Is that kiss as? I would say, that's a little
over the top.

Speaker 2 (10:28):
But aren't you like the kid that brings the teacher
a gift, like the kid that brings her an apple?

Speaker 1 (10:32):
No, but the same way.

Speaker 3 (10:33):
I know your guys' favorite team, so I give you
gifts based on your teams.

Speaker 1 (10:37):
I've done that with our boss before. I give them
like Minnesota gear. I haven't done that in years.

Speaker 2 (10:41):
Maybe we should, right, I said the boss something I
said from Rich and then in parentheses not so when
contract time comes up Christmas?

Speaker 3 (10:49):
Christmas is cool, but if you're doing more than that,
you're probably just trying to do too much.

Speaker 1 (10:53):
Here's here's why there's a true not the true story,
Danny g how a boss. Rich knows them.

Speaker 2 (10:57):
This is before you and I work together, though, but
we end up working for this guy again rich and
I and I bought him one of those like like
penholders from things engraved or they got sharper image. But
I had it engraved and it was like, you know,
boss man, so you know, it's just cool his cool
pen in it because it's my boss. I thought it
was a cool, thoughtful thing to do. And like the

(11:20):
reaction I got wasn't like what I expected, So I
was like, yeah, never.

Speaker 1 (11:24):
Doing that again.

Speaker 2 (11:25):
Say. I just wanted to be like, oh, you know,
it was a great kind gesture, give me a hug
or something. The best thing of boss ever was like deflated,
feeling like, yeah, maybe I shouldn't have done that. Then
one time, when you're on your come up, I remember
saying a boss once said to you.

Speaker 1 (11:40):
Like, I don't pay you to think. Yeah he did.

Speaker 2 (11:44):
Know one boss said to me, I don't pay you
to think. We already have a Howard Stern here. Just
hang up those batters. Read the liners, buddy, read the liners.

Speaker 3 (11:53):
So I had a radio boss steal from me one time.
What Yeah, Now I know they have an affiliate in
their city, so I have to be careful, and I've
programmed several stations, so it could be any of those cities.
But so you guys know, in our business, there's this
thing called trade where there's certain companies that the radio
station wants to do business, but instead of money, they
trade services. So all of us full timers, we got

(12:16):
an email saying, hey, this awesome auto parts West Coast shop.
They're gonna hook all the full time talent up with
rims for their cars. Make an appointment, go in pick
your rims. I'm so excited. I take my car. I'm like,
I pick the rims, make an appointment for when I
was going to go get them on. Then I got
to follow up email from the boss saying, hey, guys,

(12:36):
I'm so sorry, we're not going to finish this trade
with this company.

Speaker 2 (12:41):
And I'm like, dang it, I missed out on my rims.
I'm not kidding you. Two weeks later, he rolls up
his car has my rims that I picked up on
his car.

Speaker 1 (12:51):
That says so it says it, Danny g It says
here you already you picked up.

Speaker 3 (12:54):
Your rims, and I just I did my bad. I
didn't obviously didn't say anything, and I just try to
ignore it. But every time I saw his car, it
was like like a stake through the heart.

Speaker 1 (13:05):
Wasn't Dinklage the boss in who? Movie?

Speaker 5 (13:08):
Was that?

Speaker 1 (13:08):
Elf? Elf?

Speaker 6 (13:09):
Right?

Speaker 2 (13:09):
Yeah, he was the bosson ELF. That comes to mind,
So call me Elf one more time? Yeah, exactly, Elf,
We're going to go to your phone calls. Now, who
comes to mind? Sports, Life, entertainment. Do you have any
stories you want to share? His national Boss's day here
on the Cavino and Rich Show.

Speaker 1 (13:25):
Let's say hi to Willie in Anchorage. What's up Willie? Hey, Willy, Hey,
how's it going?

Speaker 5 (13:30):
Guys?

Speaker 1 (13:30):
What's up? First?

Speaker 5 (13:32):
Boss?

Speaker 1 (13:33):
That comes to mind as Michael Scott.

Speaker 5 (13:34):
Everybody knows that, dude, I mean no, God, please, no, no, no.

Speaker 2 (13:42):
You know it's crazy too? Is how he got better
with age? He really did.

Speaker 1 (13:46):
On the On the Morning on the Morning Show. He
looks way handsome.

Speaker 2 (13:48):
Do you ever see any Season one Season one versus
the end his hairline and everything. No, no, it's great.
If you watched early episodes he was baldover's slicking it back. Yeah,
and then his hairline became were robust.

Speaker 1 (14:00):
Yeah, he got he got the halleween.

Speaker 2 (14:02):
He's such a good character.

Speaker 1 (14:03):
Though. Alex Alice Cooper is Steve Carell's dad. Look it up.
Alice Cooper is Steve Carell's dad.

Speaker 2 (14:12):
If you put some eyeliner on, Steve Carell look a
lot like Alice Cooper for Halloween easily. By the way,
the Michael Scott clips looking back at how politically incorrect
and wrong he was for some of those like like
I guess you would say, like the seminars and the
racial sensitivity that some of those clips. I don't think
we fly today unless he's like a streaming or when
when when they out all out Oscar and he's like,

(14:33):
I'm gonn kiss him in front of remember that house.
That's one of the funniest moments in the Office's history.
Let's go to Meg in Montana. Hi, Meg, Hi, Meg,
Hey guys, how are you.

Speaker 6 (14:46):
Well. I just couldn't get over the George Steinber talk
from Seinfeld. I'm a huge Seinfeld nerd, and I could
not help but give you guys a little anecdote. Lee
is the actor that played the physical knack of the
head of George time Brenner, and he did all the

(15:10):
junk yunk motions while Larry David was doing the voicing.

Speaker 2 (15:15):
Yeah that makes sense, Meg, You're right, because I was
like that's not Larry David, but it's not George George
Steinbrenner's back either, Like it does look like he's a
little too big, I think. But I know Larry David,
and I said rich eyes and her pals, and I
feel like I heard the clip where Larry does say
how I wanted to get George and involved but it
didn't work out. It's like that must have been a

(15:36):
rough conversation even for Larry David. But thanks better at
the awkward than Larry David. Yeah, and thank you for
the real sexy, I mean, informative phone call.

Speaker 1 (15:43):
We appreciate that. Meg. If you are on Love Is Blind,
I would definitely want to meet you.

Speaker 3 (15:46):
Speaking speaking of voiceovers, and you guys have done his
voice on the show before, mister burns.

Speaker 2 (15:52):
Oh yeah, well, good boss reference. All right, who else
do we got? Who comes to mind? Who's that quintessential
boss that comes to on National Bosses?

Speaker 5 (16:01):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (16:01):
You know the hottest bosses? That uh so in appropriate?
Jennifer Addison in Horrible Bosses.

Speaker 1 (16:06):
That's a good one. That is a good Remember she's.

Speaker 2 (16:08):
Like trying to seduce Charlie Day and he's just and
Bateman And for that matter. I think everyone right, Well,
you know what, not only does it make you think
of those pop culture references, but it makes you think
of all the people you worked for and for what
it's worth, even the ones I complained about.

Speaker 1 (16:22):
I learned a lot from man. I really did.

Speaker 2 (16:25):
And I was like, you know what, nothing could be
as difficult as like the It felt very much. You
ever see the movie Double War's praduct?

Speaker 1 (16:33):
I have good boss.

Speaker 2 (16:35):
I work for a guy, a guy that treated me
just like that, And you wonder like, are they pushing
you because they're a holes or are they pushing you
to really truly bring out the best in you. It's
kind of like the movie Whiplash. I always thought that
you ever see Whiplash with JK. Simmons, Like was he
the worst guy ever? Or was he really trying to
bring out the best in what's that actor's name?

Speaker 7 (16:56):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (16:57):
Come on, young Studley, that was the name? You know
I'm talking about Nay Kay Simmons and Miles tell Keller.

Speaker 1 (17:06):
There you go.

Speaker 2 (17:07):
So when I look back at all those bosses, yeah,
I did learn a lot from them. One of my
bosses had to sign on his desk is that it
can be done and no matter what I did, and
I came there with a problem, he would point at
that thing. He didn't care what I had to do
to get it done. Get it done. And I think
those lessons stick with you, and you know, props to them.
He's all along the way.

Speaker 3 (17:28):
Yeah, being a boss is kind of like having a
superpower in a way, because some people just don't know
how to handle that responsibility and they abuse it. And
we've all had bosses like that, and I think you
guys would agree in general, your life is so much
better when you have a good boss.

Speaker 1 (17:43):
It is true.

Speaker 2 (17:44):
And if you want to turn into sports, because we
are Fox Sports Radio, there are some bosses that aren't
capable being the main boss, I'll llah the head coach.
There are people that are better defensive coordinators, right hitting coaches,
you know OC's or bench coaches, and and you see it, and.

Speaker 1 (18:04):
You were saying, you're saying it's probably it probably feels
lonely at times.

Speaker 2 (18:07):
You were using the Devilwaar's Prada analogy and whiplash. There
are some bosses and I talk about this with my
wife all the time. As far as teachers and coaches,
kids all respond differently, but you got to figure out
what works for you and your kids or employees. Some
people need tough love and some people trumble.

Speaker 1 (18:26):
It's true.

Speaker 2 (18:26):
I noticed it when I coach, Like there are kids
that are unfocused, and if I try to be a
little tough on them, they listen, But then other kids
will be tough on them. They just curl into a ball.
You know, they're a boss for a reason, right. They
might have the ability and skill set to know what
that employee needs to get them motivated. For all, I know,
this guy saw me as a pampered mama's boy, and

(18:49):
he's like, I got to toughen this kid up if
he wants to make it.

Speaker 1 (18:52):
Well, look who is no longer batting one forty? Show?

Speaker 2 (18:55):
Hey Atani with a leadoff triple in the bottom of
the first Inny he's been whopping what one's sixty five
the cove? Was that boss the same guy that said
that don't don't use your brain? Or is it just difference?
It actually was yeah, okay, yeah, see I don't like
that as advice don't use your brain. I mean I
kind of I get what he's saying, like, just follow orders,
just do what I tell you to think yeah, don't

(19:16):
pay to think. Yeah it was the same guy, same guy,
all right. You know, I don't know some radio some
radio tyrants out there. But you learn your lessons, man,
you move on. Joe Tory, right, look at it. Joe
Tory who was so dominant as the Yankee skipper, but
everywhere else he was not good right true, And Joe
Tory was the most chill, laid back type of guy.

(19:39):
Compare that to other managers you've seen, like a in
your Yankee fandom, like a Panela or Billy Martin or
you know, it's everyone's different, It's true, respond differently. By
the way, the I don't want to take Dan Buyer's thunder,
but Dodgers up one. Oh, Mookie Bets just had a gapper.
So back to back hits to start the bottom of
the first and Mookie Bets does an exaggerated dance at

(20:01):
second he's really rubbing it in. He didn't he didn't
even do the hip flex. He did like a whole number.
He was like, no, you need to and again back
to sports. You know, Dave Roberts, he gets a lot
of criticism, but he might be steady, the right guy
for those characters. You know, and he proved he was
last year and maybe this year. You could argue that's

(20:23):
why you could argue that's why Rex Ryan hasn't got
a gig since, because maybe his style is like, no,
I know, these young kids are not going to respond
to you when I say, boss, who do you think of? Seriously?
Because then what if I said, hello, both you think about?
By ball Hey. Speaking of Howard Stern, I worked at

(20:46):
the same radio station as him.

Speaker 1 (20:49):
True story.

Speaker 2 (20:49):
Our main boss said to me one time that I
did such a great job that I was going to
get a bonus. And people who follow that show know
who I'm talking about. So I was so pumped beause
I was a young man on the on the come
up and I was like, I'm getting a bonus. So
telling all my friends I'm getting a bonus. The boss said,
I'm getting a bonus, was a pig vomit no, no,

(21:11):
but along the seam lines right.

Speaker 1 (21:13):
After the guy who took over.

Speaker 2 (21:14):
Yeah, And I got my bonus in Princeton Ski Shop
gift certificates and it was like.

Speaker 1 (21:21):
Here's I got.

Speaker 2 (21:22):
I was like, oh, cash I got and it was
like three, like ten dollars gift If that's the case.
Then Clark Griswold's boss for giving him the jelly of
the mop cup that he needed a bonus for his pool.
And then but you know the humiliation, like at my
girlfriend at the time, my parents like, did you get
your bonus? I'm like, yeah, here's it. I got my bonus.
Here's some snowpants. Jason and Maryland. What's up, Jason, Let's

(21:45):
go rapid Fire, Let's go. What's up, Jason?

Speaker 6 (21:47):
What's going on?

Speaker 1 (21:49):
I'm taking back to the nineties. I used to be terrified.

Speaker 6 (21:52):
The younger name was BP Richfield. The boss from the
Dinosaur Muppet Giant used to come on back in a day.

Speaker 1 (22:02):
I always portrayed as a scary, angry person. Our buddy
Stu in Vegas. What's up, Stu?

Speaker 5 (22:08):
We're doing I'm old, So I'm gonna go. Lou Grant
and my wife. I used to work for a football
team and my boss told me one day he wanted
to do the world's largest condom pole at halftime. Then
he said, find me someone to make a fifty foot condom.

Speaker 1 (22:27):
It can be done. It can be done. Promotional idea
that Lou Grant. By the way, Mary Tyler Moore Show.

Speaker 2 (22:35):
We see what was he judge Dampire would know that?
Did you know whom? I think we're talking at old TV?

Speaker 7 (22:40):
Maybe you're talking Lou Grant. Is that what you said?
I thought you said Lou Graham. Yeah, but uh sorry,
I had the baseball game Ted night.

Speaker 1 (22:52):
Let's go to Matt and Penn.

Speaker 5 (22:54):
What's up Matt, Hey, guys, the boss of was. I
was thinking I was just taking Lou Grant. So I
guess that dates me as being an old part. I'm
just gonna leave it with this. Uh. Jim Carrey just
signed on the play George Jetson's George Jason.

Speaker 1 (23:11):
Is that true?

Speaker 2 (23:12):
By the way, is that true or just a dumb
thing I saw because I thought the same thing. I
don't hear anything.

Speaker 1 (23:16):
I saw it on a reputable website.

Speaker 2 (23:18):
I've seen this everywhere, and I think that's a great casting.
But I have a theory that a lot of if
you're a white guy, a lot of your dads look
like George Jetson, Rich's dad. If they should cast Rich's
dad as George Jetson, and he would be perfect, no doubt.
All right, Doug, Oh my boy, el Roy, wrap it
up your light again, Wrap it up in Rochester.

Speaker 5 (23:37):
Hey, Doug, Hey, guys, Glengarry, Glen Ross, Alec Baldwin.

Speaker 2 (23:42):
Oh my god, great movie, great movie, great great pick boy.
All right, well, hey, we're gonna take the rest of
your feedback. Next we'll go to Dan Buy for an update.
We'll talk a little show.

Speaker 1 (23:50):
Hey, and uh, it's all here right here on Fox
Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (23:53):
Hang tight, It's Covino and Rich on Fox Sports Radio.
And if you're a heart and heavy classic rock fan,
a kiss fan, I got sad news space Ace Ace
Freely passed away at seventy four. Cause of death uncertain

(24:18):
right now, but I did see earlier in the week
that he had some injuries that led to like a
brain bleeding or something like that.

Speaker 1 (24:27):
But seventy four years old.

Speaker 2 (24:30):
Rock legend, Ace Freely, Diane Keaton, DiAngelo and now him. Yeah,
so we rock out on his behalf one of Rich's
favorite songs. You know, he was actually from New York.
I think he was living in Marstown, New Jersey, but
he was from the Bronx And is a song you
hear a lot in the Queens. So now this is
a song they played for years every time the Mets

(24:53):
would have won a game. Yeah, and every time the
Giants score touchdown. We're live from the Fox Sports Radio studio.
Over forty years, ty Iraq has been helping customers find
the right tires for how, what and where they drive.
Ship Fast and free back by free road has a
protection with convenient installation options like mobile tire installation tire
i Raq tiraq dot Comway tire buying. Should be speaking

(25:14):
of aceh freely space ace right. You know it is
spooky season, go season, postseason. As a kid, there was
nothing cooler to me as a little boy seeing all
like the teenage burnouts of the eighties stressed up his
kiss for Halloween. That was always the coolest thing when
you're a kid of the eighties.

Speaker 1 (25:35):
WO.

Speaker 2 (25:36):
So rest in peace and if you have any other
thoughts on bosses, well hit us up at Covino and
Rich at Fox Sports Radio. Two reminders, Rich, yesterday we
filled in for Dan Patrick, So if you missed the show,
catch it on the podcast Our best of Dan Patrick.
And thanks again to dB for filling in and doing

(25:57):
his thing. And over promised, I can already tell you
what we're gonna talk about in a half hour from now,
live on our YouTube channel. Covino and Rich FSR. The
worst things to happen to you in your forties, like
the worst part of being in your forties, aside from
death and health issues. Yeah, because tonight it's not the
Battle of the Ages, it's the Battle of the Old Ages.

(26:20):
Aaron Rodgers, Joey Flacco. So we're gonna talk about things
you notice in your forties who might be ass We're
gonna add someone to the list, and we're gonna talk
about Halloween costumes on over Promised episode one thirteen again
in a half hour on Covino and Rich FSR YouTube.

Speaker 1 (26:36):
So join us.

Speaker 2 (26:37):
Well, he's got an RBI, well not an ABI, he's
got a leadoff triple and he scored the run so
far for the Dodgers show. Hey, Otani, there's this is
a sentiment that has to do with show Hey, that
we'll get to right after Chris's call. He wanted to
wrap up our boss conversation. What's up Washington State? Chris?

Speaker 5 (26:56):
Oh, hey, man, I just wanted to get music music
in play and mention.

Speaker 1 (27:01):
Oh that's a good one. Yeah, talking about the guy.

Speaker 3 (27:04):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (27:05):
Intimidating boss for sure, And that's usually how they're portrayed
in movies and TV and we shout out the bosses,
What about Tony Soprano? Yeah he was the boss. Yeah
he was the boss. He was the dogs. So thank
you guys. Now you say there's a sentiment around shoe
Hill Tani, I say, there's just straight up stats that

(27:26):
prove when it comes to postseason he's kind of cheeks.

Speaker 1 (27:30):
But he gets away with it.

Speaker 2 (27:31):
And I know there's plenty of reasons as to why,
but the stats don't lie. Two hundred lifetime, not counting today,
he was bat in one forty seven leading into today's
postseason game. Hasn't really come through that clutch that big
for your Dodgers. But I think it all goes back
to one thing that we tend to forget. Shoe Hey

(27:52):
did something that no one had ever done before. He
deferred his payments what two million a year, which allowed
the Dodgers to get the other players to back him up.
And they've been coming through. So when your team around
you delivers and they're not relying just on show Hay
and one person to come through, Yeah, he gets away
with it. And they wouldn't have those players if it

(28:12):
wasn't for that move he made, taking less money at
the time.

Speaker 1 (28:15):
Well, so I heard.

Speaker 2 (28:17):
Colin say this the other day, and I think these
Dodger teams aren't winning just because they have the high
payroll in big stars.

Speaker 1 (28:24):
Yes, pitching has shown that so far.

Speaker 2 (28:26):
You got Blake Snell, and free agency had the money
to sign Yamamoto and you knew he wanted to come
play with show Hey, which by the way, shows his
worth in another way, right, other Japanese stars wanted to
play with show Hey. But it's guys like Tommy Edmund.
It's guys that were on other teams that anyone could
have had. Remember we talked about how anyone in the
NFL could have had Baker Mayfield if they really wanted.

(28:48):
Anyone could have had Tommy Edmund. Anyone could have had
tay Oscar Hernandez. These are guys that I mean Snell.
Snell was up for grasts, went to his Dodger expensive
but still, but I'm saying those guys from the scrap
heaps is trash, Bobsara. No one wanted Max Munsey. These
are guys that went to the Dodgers and fit in
with the stars and have become big postseason players. And

(29:09):
much like that school project Kvino. We've talked about how
you might not be the person that contributes, but if
you get an a everyone gets today, not just the
person that does the best. And the Dodgers are defending
World champs. Show hey may not have had the numbers,
but you know what, he's part of that squad. And
if you win, it gets forgotten.

Speaker 1 (29:28):
That's the thing.

Speaker 2 (29:28):
And there are moments not necessarily fair though, because what
was the biggest criticism for Aaron Judge that he wasn't
coming through in the postseason? Well, Coavini, he's a ghost
in the postseason. Wheres his big moment? Why not at
least a little bit of that narrative. He's the biggest
international star in the game. You've been hearing it the
past couple of weeks. Rob Parker's just screaming about it
for over a week now. It's starting to but but

(29:55):
he's pitching, he's contributing in other ways. And Cavino, besides that,
if you win, this is all forgotten. If the Yankees
had won a World Series while Aaron Judge betted you know,
two to eight in the postseason, it wouldn't have been
a big deal. There have been plenty of teams where
the star player, you know, poops the bet in the
postseason and no one really seems to care because the
team wins. The Dodgers are winning, and there are moments where,

(30:19):
even though he's not contributing, his pure presence has felt meaning.
The other night, say that about Aaron Judge the other
night was just as much flak. They weren't pitching around
Aaron Judge. It's just that other people weren't backing them up.
The other night, Mookie Bets got walked at the bases juiced.
Why would the basses juice because they did not want
to pitch to show hal Tony And that same stuff
applied to Aaron Judge. It's just do we see two

(30:41):
different narratives. I'm actually tipping my hat to the fact
that Aaron that Shohy was able to surround himself with
greater players because of that deferred move he made as
far as money, because you would not have those players,
They would not be able to afford all these players
if it wasn't for that move of taking it was
two million a year, right that.

Speaker 1 (31:00):
Two million a year.

Speaker 3 (31:00):
There are no Dodgers on the top ten for highest
paid salaries for next season. It's crazy. The list is Soto, Wheeler, Guerrero,
Junior Judge, Bregman, Rendon, de Gram, Trout, Cole Gray. Those
are the top salaries for next season.

Speaker 2 (31:16):
You can also say it's the way that show he
carries himself too. You know, he's just not an easy
target like that. He's a really likable guy and you
know how great he is, so you really don't want
to It doesn't matter when he bats one forty eleven.

Speaker 1 (31:28):
But the stats don't lie. They don't lie.

Speaker 3 (31:30):
But like Rich said, there's a lot of forgiveness given
after you get that ring, because Aaron Judge could literally
flip off all those critics with a big ring on
his finger if he had won one.

Speaker 1 (31:38):
Yeah, and by the way, Bowers.

Speaker 2 (31:41):
Time the game, and you know, in fact, let's let's
go to dB, who's probably happy about this riach.

Speaker 1 (31:48):
You know, thanks guys, Dan Byer here.

Speaker 7 (31:51):
Jake Bauers RBI single scored, Caleb Durban who had a triple,
Key k Arnandez probably shouldn't have dough for the ball
in left field got there was an extra base. But
now they've even the score at one a piece. Right now,
close top of the second It's like.

Speaker 2 (32:05):
If you feel like you have a possible, you know,
jump on the balls. One thing he just laid out
in the bull bats five ft in front of him.

Speaker 7 (32:11):
Yeah, yeah, you misjudged it for sure. Dodgers got the
one nothing lead on the Mookie Bets RBI double that
scored show hey Otani. But the Brewers answer back and
the top of the second that's where they play now
at Dodgers Stadium, Brewers and Dodgers tied up at one
in the second inning. Brewer Dodgers up two zero in
the best of seven series. That Brewers fan caught on
video saying call Ice towards a Dodgers fan during Game

(32:35):
two in Milwaukee. Well, she has been banned from American
Family Field in Milwaukee by the Brewers. That's according to
TMZ Blue Jays and Mariners eight thirty Eastern Time. That's
on FS one Game four the alcs is. The Mariners
are home in Seattle, up to one in the series,
Max Scherzer against Luis Castillo. Yankee skipper Aaron Boone says
that Anthony Volpe and Garrett Cole likely won't be ready

(32:57):
for the start of the season, same with Carlos Rodan.
As for Aaron Judge, the outfielder will not need surgery
on his injured elbow. Cowboys wide receiver Ced Lamb says
he'll play against the Commanders on Sunday Well Niner's done,
and George Kittle says he'll return from his Week one
hamstring strain to face the Falcons on Sunday Night. Football
Notable players to not practice today include Rams Wade receiver
Puka Nakua, Commander's wide receiver Terry McLaurin, and Bucks wide

(33:20):
receiver a Mecca Abuka. Cardinos quarterback Kyler Murray limited in
practice because of a foot injury. And in college football,
Indiana's given head football coach, Kurt said Netti an eight
year extension worth eleven point six million dollars. Signetti now
the third highest bad coach in college football, and had
this to say after his deal.

Speaker 8 (33:40):
My wife, Manette, and I love Indiana University, Bloomington, the
state of Indiana, the people we've met with very strong
feelings about President Whitten and Scott Dolson. And you know,
we've accomplished a lot here in a short amount of time,
but still have a lot of work to do.

Speaker 7 (33:54):
Third ranked team in the country right now, and Signetti
only paid less than Ryan Dale Ohio State and Kirby
Smart at Georgia.

Speaker 1 (34:02):
Thank you, dB, dB.

Speaker 2 (34:04):
I would love Indiana too, by the way, if I
got paid that much, I would say very nice things
about it.

Speaker 1 (34:08):
The Indiana rich.

Speaker 2 (34:10):
So dB, do you think that sho Hey Otani avoids
the criticism here because they're winning, Because think of the
criticis Maren Judge was getting dude ended up batting five
hundred in the postseason, and you would have thought he
was the reason they lost based on the press and
the coverage and criticism he got. Show Hay was batting
one forty seven heading into today's game this postseason.

Speaker 7 (34:31):
So show he is not criticized because the Dodgers have
been good in the postseasons.

Speaker 1 (34:34):
As simple as that.

Speaker 2 (34:35):
Yeah, so you can't And if that's the truth, then right,
get off Judges Huevos and realize it was the team
had nothing to do with him. He didn't have to
back up that show he has well. Shout out to
Max Munsey because another great postseason play infield was in
runner a third and Max Munsey made a nice little

(34:56):
slide and catch a third, spun around and throw a
strike to home to get the runner on a tag
play obviously not a force and that is an under underestimated.

Speaker 1 (35:06):
Play right there. That's great execution about the Jodgers keeping
it one to one.

Speaker 2 (35:09):
All right, So we got more Coveno and Rich Spooky
Season postseason Ghost Season here on Fox Sports Radio Rock
and psace freely Covino and Rich live from the Fox
Sports Radio Studio. Business fluctuations make running your manufacturing business complex,

We're gonna talk about the worst things to happen in
your forties because tonight is the Battle of the forty
year old quarterbacks forty one for Aaron Rodgers, a new

(35:54):
they might be asked and we talked some Halloween on
over Promised. We do it live in ten minutes again
on YouTube. Joined the live chat and check us out.
Covino and Rich FSR and tomorrow Rich Rich's big TV
Game of the week, our fun new game Brainwave, giving
away some prizes, and we get you ready for the
weekend with Weekend Hobnobbin right here on Covino and Rich

(36:15):
and Rich. You still got to give us your Thursday
night picks, but real quick, right quick. I got to
say that we learned this last year what the Dodgers
did with Shoheo Tani worked, but we're noticing it in
a different way this year when you see that he's
batting one forty seven minus the triple he hit tonight
this entire postseason, and the money they were able to

(36:36):
use by him deferring his payments is working as they
distribute it.

Speaker 1 (36:41):
Elsewhere to get other players to pick them up.

Speaker 2 (36:44):
So the Dodgers have a solid team and what they
did with Shoho Tani works. I agree with that he
gets no criticism. I agree, but don't because disne sellary
cap in baseball. So it's not like he's pulling the
Tom Brady where it's like, spend the money elsewhere? Does
Unlimited spend? The Dodgers's able to Phillies, you know who's
so much that money so in such a better way

(37:05):
instead of paying him a crazy amount.

Speaker 1 (37:06):
Of I get what you're saying.

Speaker 2 (37:07):
You don't want to you want to avoid luxury taxes
and all these other things.

Speaker 1 (37:11):
But there's no salary caps. So I don't think show
Hay is being.

Speaker 2 (37:13):
The most like, oh my god, team guy, you get
the most money as you can in baseball. I just
think that the Dodgers are covering for show Hey when
he doesn't deliver, covering.

Speaker 1 (37:22):
With the players that they were able to get because
of that money.

Speaker 2 (37:24):
But it's guys, I said, it's guys like that would
be like Judge being covered by a guy like Vulpi
or Austin Wells or one of these guys actually playing
well where Tommy Edmond and in that case, you know,
the criticism should have never been on Judge then because
he batted over five hundred, sho Hay one forty seven.

(37:45):
Seriously put that in perspective. Think of the criticism Judge
got he batted five hundred and carried that team. Show
Hey gets no criticism. He's batting one forty seven. It's
criticizing Judge anymore. You're making as much sense as Joe
on Love is Blind?

Speaker 1 (37:58):
Right now? Sure about that? Do you watch Love? His blind, Monsie,
Joe's the biggest He is sure about that?

Speaker 2 (38:04):
Or did he really just want to shoehorn that comment
into this conversation.

Speaker 1 (38:07):
I so, I was happy listening to you guys because
I'm prepping to anchor, but he wanted to talk about
love is Blind.

Speaker 2 (38:12):
Yeah, but Joe, Joe says some crazy things. Guy, I've
ever seen I you know him and that girl with
the hurt him and the woman that owns a hair
salon who has the worst hair, who has.

Speaker 1 (38:21):
Okay, I wasn't gonna say that, but it's no facts, facts, facts.
He's not wrong. I just I'm all caught it. I'm glad.

Speaker 2 (38:28):
I'm glad we all are on the same page that
there's so many great sports. But when that's done and
you're laying in bed, we're watching Love His.

Speaker 1 (38:33):
Blond Yeah, we can watch. We can all agree on that.
All right.

Speaker 2 (38:36):
Well, Hey tonight, here's the bet you're gonna make. I'm
gonna win you some more money. We finally lost and
we jinked ourselves. What to be nine and one now
on Thursday and Monday night teaser bets?

Speaker 1 (38:44):
Yeah, you thought about your pick too hard last week?

Speaker 2 (38:47):
Did I did? Well?

Speaker 1 (38:49):
Here's what we're gonna do tonight.

Speaker 2 (38:50):
I think Aaron Rodgers is going to continue to show
the National Football League that like we were all wrong
and he's still got enough juice and that team is
good around him, and everyone stinks the Steelers have somehow
found a way to keep that team together. They are
four and one right coming off of bye, and you
got Aaron Rodgers. They're six point favorites. Tease that down

(39:11):
to nothing, nothing many. You just need the Steelers to
beat Flacco and the Bengals. Not then, not the easy breezy.
Here's why I don't want to get it. I don't want
to overthink it. The over Unders forty four and a half.
You could say, mmm, go down to thirty eight and
a half and picked the over. I'm not gonna do that,

(39:31):
though this could be low scoring. I'm gonna go under
fifty and a half. Under fifty and a half, and
Pittsburgh Steelers just win.

Speaker 1 (39:39):
That's your teaser.

Speaker 2 (39:40):
So under fifty and a half, you know, I'm thinking
twenty four to ten, twenty four seventeen still wins. That
bet Steelers and the Unders in a teaser.

Speaker 1 (39:52):
There you go. It'll be fun, yeah, fun to watch
the old guys do their thing tonight.

Speaker 2 (39:56):
Yeah, and I'd like to see Blue Jays tie this
bad up tonight. And Danny, no offense to you, because
my kids now love the Dodgers. It would nice, It
would be nice to make this a series. You really
want to sweep and sit around for a week? Come on,
is that any fun?

Speaker 1 (40:09):
Is that any fun? Danny would now enjoy your games tonight.
Guess stop giving me extra anxiety.

Speaker 2 (40:14):
Yeah, we'll see you guys later. Riba, there you maybe
any over promised Land.
