Speaker 2 (00:38):
I have a five year old son and him and
his little buddies are starting to collect baseball cards, and Buddy,
make sure they don't put their little bogger fingers all
over It's so funny. I open packs with him, and
if I feel like he has a good one, I'll
be like, Yo, hand that to dad, and I'll put
in a little plastic for him, because you're right, his
old grubby Pokemon card hands sweet show hail tany card
with the jelly all over it, He's fine. Oh look

(01:02):
you know what he got a scooball rookie man at
twenty twenty four, Pa, you gotta take that, and I
was like, Yo, get your little jelly fingers off. Then
all right again, start that collection now. Pandiamerica dot Net,

Always great to see Sam and of course Breeze on

(01:22):

Speaker 3 (01:23):
Fox We're Cavino and Rich.

Speaker 2 (01:25):
We're on two to four every day out here in California,
two to four on the West, five to seven on
the East. And if you want to watch our show,
we have a bonus pod called over Promised. Just check
Fox Sports Radio's YouTube page and we're actually streaming right now.

Speaker 3 (01:40):
Well listen.

Speaker 2 (01:40):
If we're not on in your market Monday through Friday
in the afternoon, you can always hear it on the
iHeartRadio app. We appreciate that. And two questions for you,
buddy boy. Number one, I'm excited, of course met Yankees
tonight's Subway series. You're a Yankees guy. I'm a Mets guy.
Frocking my Yankee tea.

Speaker 3 (01:58):
Look at that. Woke up. Put my Yankee gear on.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
I'm ready braceball, I'm wearing stirrups. I'm so fired up
only stirs. By the way, only check that out for
the Fox Sports radio stream.

Speaker 3 (02:12):
I can't see your waist down, so I guess you're away. Okay,
I'll show you.

Speaker 2 (02:16):
You'll never know, Sam Carlos Odeldon. Yes, is he hot
right now? Or is he struggling? I haven't I know
right now? Four and three e ra A the low threes?

Speaker 3 (02:27):
But is he?

Speaker 1 (02:27):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (02:27):
Here's the thing he found himself from. He's one of
those dudes that unravels. That's what they figured out. Like,
if something goes wrong, it's like, oh, you know, everything
collapses after that someone makes an Airy's like God Jesus,
you know, he doesn't get a call that he wants ah.

Speaker 3 (02:42):
And then the world starts falling apart.

Speaker 2 (02:44):
They're trying to keep him composed, and he's been a
lot better since they've figured that out, and he's been great.
I think he's been great. Yeah, he's one of those
solid pictures that we expected. He's uh, he's no Max Freedom,
but he's good pitching for the the Yanks and I
Mets are throwing Tylor McGill. I think ever since he's
been able to grow a scruff back, he's just more
dominant and more comfortable in his skin. Fair enough fight.

(03:06):
Uh second question, not about the Mets Yanks. On our
bonus podcast, over promised we did a video podcast.

Speaker 3 (03:16):
Have you lightened up a little bit? I loved all.

Speaker 2 (03:19):
The schedule releases by the NFL team's thirty two social
media managers are all high five in each other.

Speaker 3 (03:27):
And Covino's like, who cares, it's a schedule.

Speaker 2 (03:30):
It's not that I don't care about the schedule, It's
just that these videos do nothing for me.

Speaker 3 (03:35):
I think they're corny unless it's your team.

Speaker 2 (03:37):
I get it, you're excited about your team and who
they're playing, and oh man, but to be cheering for
the social media team man, the social media department?

Speaker 3 (03:47):
Darre insane? Right? Who cares?

Speaker 2 (03:48):
These videos are corny and they're meant for like teenagers?
Are you really into Minecraft? No? But what I'm saying
is the same way the NFL draft went from a
couple old guys smoking cigars in a wood paneled basement. Bro,
I watched back. You thought schedule Rizzy was a good one.
The spoof on sky Rizzy, I thought it was funny. Yeah,
Rich said, this is what he goes. These are my
top five I'm like, if these are the best ones,

(04:11):
I don't even want to see the rest of them.

Speaker 3 (04:12):
Well, okay, then I must have saved you from the
other twenty seven. Then huh.

Speaker 2 (04:15):
You could see Rich's top five on our bonus pod
over promised.

Speaker 3 (04:19):
That's on Fox Sports Radios YouTube page.

Speaker 2 (04:21):
Like we said, I'm not saying I'm not into creativity
and that I don't appreciate the effort, but for me
to make a huge hoop out of it like you
do and get all excited and like it's Newdy magazine
day or something, I don't care at all about these videos.

Speaker 4 (04:35):
Hey, Rich, Rich is in the McRib. He's like the
people at McDonald who like McDonald's, who are like excited
about the McRib coming back.

Speaker 3 (04:41):
I get a.

Speaker 4 (04:42):
Small little fraction of people. He's like, yeah, I like McRib.

Speaker 2 (04:46):
You mean all these videos that have tens of millions
of views, you bird.

Speaker 3 (04:49):
Brains, Well, that's oh yeah.

Speaker 4 (04:50):
They are trying to cater and appeal to younger people
with minecraft and all that.

Speaker 2 (04:54):
Stuff, and that's cool, But you expect me to care
about that, And I thought it was honestly, for lack
of better term, Rich mad Corny, Well, do you know
what go back to only caring about Aaron Judge. I
hope he goes oh for four times?

Speaker 3 (05:06):
Oh god.

Speaker 2 (05:07):
It is cool to see the evolution of what the schedule,
premiere and debut has become.

Speaker 3 (05:13):
It's like this big wow. I can't wait to see
what they do.

Speaker 2 (05:16):
Well a team, A team that's gonna get a little
more buzz this year because you know, we're hoping and
thinking next step, next level stuff for Caleb Williams and
I gotta ask distraction unnecessary?

Speaker 3 (05:30):
Who cares? He's there now?

Speaker 2 (05:32):
But if you don't know the story last hour, we
we sort of set this up. Caleb Williams and his dad.
There's a book coming out and in this book, his
dad said, Chicago, get Wickersham's some prompts is Seth Wickersham's book.
I was gonna get. Not just like some some Doctor
Seuss book. It's a It's a book.

Speaker 3 (05:52):
The places will go right.

Speaker 2 (05:55):
Seth Wickersham has a book American Kings, a biography of
the quarterback. And in the book a little preview Carl Williams,
Caleb's dad said Chicago is the place quarterbacks go to die.

Speaker 3 (06:09):
And then Caleb said, do I want to go there.
I don't think I want.

Speaker 2 (06:12):
Him that has called the truth Williams, and I think
as you read more and more of the quotes, it's
stuff that I wonder if Caleb Williams regrets saying or
is the narrative like you ever have the mindset of
like yo, I didn't want to come here, but now
I'm here and it's awesome Now.

Speaker 3 (06:27):
I don't think it matters, man, I really don't.

Speaker 2 (06:29):
You're a band fan, does did this leave you but
herd If you're a Bears fan, No, based on you
what do you sports babe? Based on the history of
Justin Fields and Trubisky and all the people that have Dude,
what is Chris Rock say? Just be happy you're with
her now, right, Just be happy you're with them now.
Just be happy that he's a Bear. Now you're gonna

(06:49):
cry about it because he didn't like him. I'm sure
it's a different story now. It's like shredor Sanders with Cleveland.
You think that was his first choice, It wasn't his dad's.
If you go back to twenty eighteen and read the tweets, yep,
well I don't want Sanders like I don't want my son.
I'd never let my son play in Cleveland. Well guess what.
That's what happened. They're gonna make the best of it. Well, Jenks,

(07:10):
guess what Carl Williams said, quote, I don't want my
son playing for the Bears. So Prime Time and Carl
Williams have something in common. Their sons ended up playing
on teams that they were like, I don't want my
son playing for that team. My parents didn't want me
moving to California either, And look at us, we're prospering
out here. It's great sunshine.

Speaker 3 (07:30):
Am I right? Palm Trees? I miss you, Steven.

Speaker 4 (07:33):
What other job sectors are there where the employer chooses
you but you don't get to choose the employer?

Speaker 3 (07:39):
I would usually it's a two D any of your
mom say I want him on ESPN or NBC Sports.
She never said that. She never said that.

Speaker 4 (07:45):
She never said she let me go out and make
my own choices and apply to wherever, and and I like,
if you're a Bears fan, wouldn't you just be like, Yeah,
I don't know if Daddy Williams is wrong here, because
it's kind of like we haven't had a like a
really like a big time quarterback about what forty years.

Speaker 2 (08:02):
Hey, let me ask you this, since Jim McMahon had
sunglasses on that was doing the Super Bowl shuffle, the
Bears haven't had They've had like the.

Speaker 4 (08:09):
Rex Grossman, They've had Jay Cutler, They've had a little
bit of a little a little sprinkle of success with
Mitch Trubisky, but like, they haven't had you know, someone
like obviously, like you know Patrick Mahomes or Josh Allen.

Speaker 3 (08:22):
Yeah, they haven't had a superstar.

Speaker 2 (08:24):
I haven't had a superstar for a long time. And
he has this type of potential for sure. So twist
and embrace the regardless of what he thought previously.

Speaker 3 (08:32):
You twist it and say, Dad said, do you twist it?

Speaker 2 (08:34):
And say, yo, man, Like, there's been times where I
think it's fair when someone's like, you know, I came
here and didn't think I was gonna love it, but
you know what now I do. Yeah, because that's believable.
Where you live right now? Was that your first choice? No,
you're like, oh, man, the place I really wanted someone
else bought it, but uh, you know what, I got
this place and I made it my own, and I'm

(08:54):
really happy he worked out for the best.

Speaker 3 (08:56):
I can't.

Speaker 2 (08:56):
I can't even imagine living in that other place because
this place, man, I absolutely love it. You don't feel
that way about certain things in your life. Some people
have their eyes set on a college when they're a
young kid, right, like, absolutely.

Speaker 3 (09:07):
I want to go to Penn State.

Speaker 2 (09:09):
And then you don't get in and you're like, cli,
well I went to Rutgers. But you know what, I
met my wife and my best friends at Rutgers. You
know what, the universe had a different plan and it
worked out. And yeah, I can't even imagine no playing
anywhere else. I believe that to be true. It doesn't
matter at all. It's a fun story, but and it's
cool to know that the truth and the backstory. But

(09:30):
I don't think it matters to the fans or or
what his output is going to be or his legacy's
going to be with the Bears at all. Let me
ask you this. There's the twofold question. We'll answer and
move on. There's plenty of other stuff to get to.
But if you're a trifle like Spotty's wallet, all right,
I'll give you three question three with Welker. Yeah, number one,

(09:54):
If you're a Bears fan, does this bother you even
a little.

Speaker 3 (09:58):
No, you're you're not marrying Campblin, Well, he's not your wife.
Why does it bother you.

Speaker 2 (10:05):
He's on your team, he's going to make the best
and based on the history of your team and the
coaches he didn't want to play for are no longer there,
So you could almost argue, yeah, that's a big part
of it that you could almost argue that he's like, yeah,
I don't know if I could play with with this
coaching steff In fact, they were also parts of this
book previewed where he was watching film and they didn't
even tell him like what to watch and what to do,

(10:26):
and he felt very misguided by the way, if you
really want to play stat boy, I would say ninety
percent of people in sports don't play for the team
they really wanted to because they all had childhood affiliations
that they rooted for, so they were probably like, yeah,
I wish one day I could play for the Steelers.

Speaker 3 (10:45):
That didn't happen. For everybody, you.

Speaker 2 (10:46):
Know, that broke my heart. I was Sam Brie. When
I met my hero Joe Montana years ago. I was like, Joe,
do you know how much you meant to me? In fact,
I told Joe Montana that I wore his pajamas when
I was a kid. That was embarrassing, you know what
he said. I remember I was there. He goes, I
help you, still don't wear him. I love Joe Montana.

(11:08):
As a little boy, I had the starting lineup figure.
I had a poster on my wall until I graduated
to my Cindy Crawford poster in my bedroom was Joe Montana.
And when he told me, he's like, yeah, I was
always sort of a Steelers guy. I'm like what, he goes, Yeah,
I played for the Niners, but I was a Steelers fan.

Speaker 3 (11:24):
Well that's what I mean.

Speaker 2 (11:25):
You think the forty nine Ers were his first choice. No,
he was super pumped about it, made the best of it,
and he became a forty Niner. But it wasn't like
his first thought or dream, I doubt. So it's not
that really big of a story, even though it is.
Layer A was. Do Bears fans care? You're gonna say no,

(11:45):
just happy they have him Now. In life, your job,
your relationship, opportunities you've got personally and professionally, are you
interested at all in the backstory of like, well, we're
gonna hire this guy.

Speaker 3 (11:57):
But we didn't, so we went with you. Hey, I
wanted to date this guy.

Speaker 2 (12:00):
Interesting, Like, before I got into radio, I was waiting
tables at Bennigan's and I was this close to becoming
a firefighter because I thought my radio career would never prosper.

Speaker 3 (12:11):
And uh, look at me now in for Dan Patrick.
Oh my goodness, where's your mustache?

Speaker 2 (12:15):
No, seriously, I wanted to be mister mister August in
the count.

Speaker 3 (12:18):
He just wanted to be in the count. I just
wanted to.

Speaker 2 (12:20):
Wear the suspenders, but only the suspenders. But yeah, the
backstory to anything is always cool, isn't that why you
watch any documentary. I'm gonna I'm gonna give everyone in
Chicago a little hope because they already have great Deep
Dish pizza.

Speaker 3 (12:37):
They have a great city. They have a lot of
great things in Chicago.

Speaker 2 (12:41):
The bull the Bulls in the nineties, which we're gonna
talk about in a second, because as a Michael Jordan story,
we want to get to.

Speaker 3 (12:46):
They gave us the Pope.

Speaker 2 (12:47):
They gave us the damn you know, they gave us
the damn nineties Bulls and the Pope and uh, dis
Deep Dish and lou Mel Natties and listen, Chicago's a
great place. Disturbed Chevelle, lots of great music, Yeah, Green
Rivers twenty five and sixty four.

Speaker 3 (13:02):
I mean a lot of good stuff. Out of the
Baby Roman, Hello, Sausage King, Wrigley Field, the Cubbies. Chicago's great.

Speaker 2 (13:12):
I'm gonna tell you why it's okay Chicago, because this
Caleb Williams story might just be the funny, happy ending
where when you guys finally make some playoff runs and
maybe get there, maybe when your first Super Bowl since
the Super Bowl Shuffle, you'll go back and be like.

Speaker 3 (13:28):
And it's so funny. Caleb didn't even want to be here.

Speaker 2 (13:31):
Because that is the backstory my friends too free, That's
the backstory to New York Mets legend.

Speaker 3 (13:39):
Keith Hernandez.

Speaker 2 (13:40):
Keith Hernandez, who has been part of the Mets organization
for forty plus years. He's one of the most beloved
players in organization history. He's part of their broadcast team
for the last twenty years. Yeah, and he snubbed us
when we worked at SNY and I love keither Nan. No,
that's cool, but no, Keith Hernandez. But you know what
talks openly, talks about when he was traded from Whitey

(14:02):
Herzog's Cardinals to the Mets, he thought about, like, I
may quit Mets.

Speaker 3 (14:07):
Uh, they stunk.

Speaker 2 (14:08):
And it worked out for the best. And everybody loves
him there. Yeah, he's the face of the franchise. He's
the dude, he's the guyer. But he rolls out the
red carpet for Keith. He's one of the legends. And
it's no secret that when he got traded from the Cardinals,
he was an MVP for Saint Louis.

Speaker 3 (14:24):
Yeah, he didn't want to go there. He told his agent, like,
do whatever you can to stop this.

Speaker 2 (14:29):
But again, Rich you've said it before. It's part of
the story. It doesn't make it bad. It makes it
actually more interesting. When you ask people about their relationships,
how much pride, how much fun does the woman? Usually
he's usually the woman who says something like this, and
I say this respectfully.

Speaker 3 (14:45):
Oh my god. When I met Sam, it's like I.

Speaker 2 (14:48):
Kind of hated him, and then I really hated him,
like I was like no ew, and then oh my god,
I got to know him and he's the bath and
then he asked me out.

Speaker 3 (14:59):
And then you know now were in love and now
we're married.

Speaker 2 (15:01):
But it's always that part of the story that pulls
you in like, oh wow, yeah, you hated him, right, That's.

Speaker 3 (15:06):
How Kayla Williams felt.

Speaker 2 (15:07):
I'll be honest, but again, give me no every great
story starts that way. I'll I'll pet you in the
back because for the rest of the weekend you and
I are not palace because of the Mets Yankees. But
that is so freaking accurate, and how many relationships are like,
oh my god, I couldn't stand him first, was full
of him. When we first met him. I was like, eh,
and then the girl's like and then I loved him.

(15:27):
And you know what, Chicago, there's your Caleb Williams front
end of your story.

Speaker 3 (15:32):
Hopefully the back end of your story. I like a
nice back end.

Speaker 2 (15:36):
Who does Hopefully the back end of that story for
Chicago is a super Bowl at some point with this guy,
and then you'll be making He'll make a speech.

Speaker 3 (15:43):
Man.

Speaker 2 (15:43):
You know, man, when I first heard about you know,
I wasn't playing Chicago. I know how to feel about it.
And you remember even my pop said, you don't want
to go up. You know, man, I don't know if
this is best for you, But Chicago, you changed my life.

Speaker 3 (15:55):
I love you. We did it. And he's got Ben Johnson.

Speaker 4 (15:58):
He's got a guy who was one of the best
in the NFL the last few seasons with the Detroit Lions.
So the the hardware of Chicago was their reputation and
just the franchise in general and not having great quarterbacks
for so long. The software is Ben Johnson. The software
is what you can change in and out.

Speaker 3 (16:14):
Yep. The reputation is the software. It can be changed.
I was saying, that's a great point.

Speaker 2 (16:17):
You're right because the criticism came with people that have
since been.

Speaker 3 (16:20):
Let go exactly. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (16:23):
So this could be a great love story like any
other one, you know, starts off a little rocky, just
a little bit. Everybody has their challenges, but good for them.

Speaker 3 (16:31):
You know. It's not that it's not interesting. It is.

Speaker 2 (16:34):
It's really interesting. I just don't think it matters much.
Hold on, I gotta I gotta look at it. I'm sorry,
I gotta call up my uh my bear schedule.

Speaker 3 (16:44):
I won't watch a corny video though.

Speaker 1 (16:46):
Where the rich loves to look at the schedule, get
schedule watching.

Speaker 2 (16:50):
It's true. I love a little schedule watching. I'm trying
to see you with the Oh, this is Richard loves
watching butt cheeks walk by at the gym and NFL schedules.
I'm the guy that come the football season, I'll be
able to tell you who plays who. Like Week seven.
I don't know why. It's just I'm fascinated with looking ahead.

Speaker 3 (17:09):
It is important, but you man, geez.

Speaker 2 (17:12):
Week one suckers Monday Night football vikings at the Bears.
So Caleb Williams starts out with, you know, the new
system in place, new coaches in place. Week one at
home hosting what it seems to be JJ McCarthy and
the Minnesota Vikings. So that should be a great Monday

(17:33):
night matchup. You know, it's funny you look at all
the matchups for a Week one of the NFL, and
because no one has sucked or been awesome yet, you
can make a case at every game is awesome. Do
I have to watch every lame announcement video or can
I just look it up?

Speaker 3 (17:47):
No?

Speaker 2 (17:48):
From now on, I'm demanding that if you need to know,
I can't be the only one that's like, yeah, whoo
would he do? They made some goofy parody this is terrible. Honestly,
I couldn't sit through thirty seconds of either any of them.
Let me see, let me see who did the Atlanta
Falcons play. Let me watch their Mario Kart video. No,
you don't want to know, honestly, No, I don't want
to play Mario Kart. I don't want to watch this video.

(18:09):
All right, Maybe that's just proof that my attention span
is non existent thanks to social media.

Speaker 5 (18:15):
The Ravens actually had a cool one. They had like
a Severance themed one that was like kind of okay, great, I.

Speaker 2 (18:21):
Think by the timers showed me that when I had
fallen asleep, I had a nudge him he had dozed off.
I was like Cam, you know in the Ravens, He's
like bro. But again, we went over the top five
on over promised our bonus podcast. You could watch it
and judge for yourself. That's on Fox Sports Radios YouTube page.

Speaker 3 (18:37):
Well, you know, I.

Speaker 2 (18:38):
Want to stick in Chicago for a second, if that's
cool with you, because today is the fortieth anniversary of
a big moment for Chicago. You might have heard of
this guy, Michael Jordan. I'm sorry, Miguel Hordan. I know
Mike who runs this first, Mike Jordan, Mike Georgan. I
don't know that when you were a kid, If you

(18:59):
were a kid the eighties and nineties, like us, it
was all about the Michaels, Michael Jackson, Mike Tyson, Michael Jordan,
and every kid in your class. If I thought you're
gonna say, Michael Bolton, you big liar. I know Rich
is a huge fan and Bolton. If you grew up
in the eighties or nineties, it is fair to say
there were two to three Michaels in every classroom.

Speaker 3 (19:19):
With every Mike, you know, you had an initial. Oh yeah,
Mike al oh, yeah, that's Mike c. My dad's name
is Mike Say. I think it was.

Speaker 2 (19:26):
It was the name of the eighties Mike. He was
born in the fifties. But yes, it's a very popular name. Mike, Mike, mike'
sever your favorite, Mike Brady, Michael Scott, so Michael Jordan.
Forty years ago today was named the NBA Rookie of
the Year, and earlier this week we talked about on

(19:47):
our show in the afternoon. I want to rehash this
a little bit. We talked about it because we have
more time to think about it. Michael Jordan is going
to be part of the broadcast team in some capacity
when the NBA returns to NBC. They're calling him special contributor.
What does that mean? Oh, we have our theories.

Speaker 3 (20:04):
Well we'll get to that and why, how? Where?

Speaker 2 (20:08):
Who?

Speaker 5 (20:09):
What?

Speaker 3 (20:09):
Why? At this point, all these years later, where Michael Jordan.

Speaker 2 (20:15):
Has kept almost almost like a mysterious persona, not on
social media, never seemed to be pulled into any media.
The Last Dance was orchestrated by him. He was the
puppetmaster of you know, of what we got to see
during COVID Last Dance, Big documentary. But besides that, Michael
Jordan's sort of been a man of mystery that sits

(20:36):
back and collects hundreds of millions of dollars a year
in Nike and Jordan money. Why is he doing this?

to it next right here in for the Great Dan, Patrick,

Speaker 2 (22:00):
Buddies can be on Rich in for the great Dan Patrick,
Fox Sports Radio. It's Friday, an NBA playoff weekend, a
Subway series weekend, and he can fights this weekend. No, yeah,
me and you if you don't shut up, you know,
stop about your stupid Mets. I want to see if
I can make a prop bet that Aaron Judge strikes

(22:21):
have two or more times today.

Speaker 3 (22:22):
Let me see you.

Speaker 2 (22:22):
I'll tell you what I'm giving one, So no props.
I can't wait to hear this guy booed. I've never
seen a fan base hated guy that was on their
team one year get off his playboffs. All right, I
know we're going to talk about that, but I do
want you to know that there's a lot of viral
buzz about how the Yankee fans are going to welcome
Sodo back to the Bronx after he chose the Mets, right,

(22:45):
I mean, he had a World Series run with the Yankees,
that's why Rich it does matter, and he chose the Mets.

Speaker 1 (22:52):
Get out a But.

Speaker 2 (22:54):
Yankees fans are like, yeah, of course they're gonna boo
the hell out of this guy, but they're also gonna chanty.
They are trying to plan maybe a silent treatment just
to throw them off. But it's gonna be a lot
of booing and a lot of Grisham's better. You might
hear that Grisham's better. I can't wait to see what happens.

Speaker 3 (23:19):
I can't wait.

Speaker 2 (23:20):
I really feel like Juan Soto is probably thinking, who cares?
He is gonna be locked in and zoned in. I
do think that you guys are throwing how many left
are you? You're throwing a lefty tonight Rodin, you throw
any other lefties?

Speaker 3 (23:38):
I don't I don't look at him. I don't like.
I'm not a schedule watch. I don't like. I don't
like the Mets against the lefties.

Speaker 2 (23:42):
But anyway, subboy series, some great NFL news we got,
of course, some NBA playoffs.

Speaker 3 (23:49):
I said it yesterday.

Speaker 2 (23:50):
I'm not the guy that says told you so, but
I couldn't understand why Okac was favored by six yesterday.

Speaker 3 (23:56):
It was in Denver, you.

Speaker 2 (23:57):
Still got Joki, you got Murray, and now we're gonna
set game seven. And I said it yesterday, not that
it was by design Cavino, but this was a real
great test for Okay. See if they win at home
Game seven, They're gonna feel like they could beat anyone.
I know they're not the defending champions, but Denver two
years ago, Jokic arguably the best player in the league.
It's him an SGA for MVP. So I think a

(24:20):
game seven, if they come up big, yeah, that might be.

Speaker 3 (24:22):
You don't let them start gaining momentum and confidence either.

Speaker 2 (24:26):
But then again, then then they have to go face
Anthony Edwards Michael Jordan's son, as you call them. Well,
speaking of Jordan's son, I'm not the only guy that
says that even their split screen faces sort of match
up perfectly now. But speaking of MJ Michael Jordan, everybody
wanted to be like Mike transcended sometimes Audrey, Yeah, me too,

(24:50):
he is me transcended fandom, meaning it didn't matter if
you were a Knicks fan.

Speaker 3 (24:56):
Everybody loved Michael Jordan. Everybody. Every kid of the nineties,
I know I did.

Speaker 2 (25:03):
Pumpkin Pie haircuted Jersey Kid had Michael Jordan all over
my bedroom.

Speaker 3 (25:07):
Ken Griffy Junior.

Speaker 2 (25:08):
Certain guys just transcended your alliance or allegiance to any team.
And you watched him play, you watched him dunk, you
tried to mimic his moves. You were watching Michael Jordan
when gatory came in a glass bottle.

Speaker 3 (25:22):
That's true, That is true.

Speaker 2 (25:24):
You know what, though, I'll tell you this, as much
as I love the Sneakers too, Space jam was never
my jam, to be honest, never was. And now NBA
on NBC. The first question is why we have our theories.
But it's the anniversary of Michael Jordan, Rookie of the
Year nineteen eighty five, forty years ago. Before we talk

(25:47):
about NBA on NBC, we reminists a little bit.

Speaker 3 (25:51):
Sure he is me boom boom boom boom boom like Mike.

Speaker 2 (25:57):
I want to be wow Rich in the high notes. Damn,
I didn't think you could do it this early. But again,
that was nineteen eighty five. You were rocking Jordan ones,
you were watching Back to the Future, Great Scott. He
probably had a feathered haircut. But yeah, eighty five, forty

(26:18):
years ago, that's nuts. You were watching the Goonies, man,
And you know what, I know we're going to talk
about Michael Jordan a little bit here, and I like
breeze angle on this. To be honest, I really do
not that I'm surprised. I'm just surprised I didn't think
of it. Brie, that's all. Yeah, but he was like
shocked that bree came out, No new new Breeze is
intelligent and she's great. I'm just shocked that I didn't

(26:40):
think of this. You know, why is he being a
special contributor. He's plenty busy with his race team and
everything else, his business moves and just being Michael Jordan.
Does he really need to be out there on NBC.
But it's also the anniversary, Rich, Yesterday was the anniversary,
but this week was also the anniversary. It happened May fifteenth,

(27:02):
twenty sixteen.

Speaker 3 (27:04):
Do you know what happened this week?

Speaker 2 (27:06):
I find it to be a pivotal moment in baseball
for one man's career.

Speaker 3 (27:10):
Especially.

Speaker 2 (27:10):
Let people think about that, for one man, a pivotal
moment in twenty sixteen baseball on this day.

Speaker 3 (27:16):
Yeah, something happened. I'll give you a little hint.

Speaker 2 (27:18):
Something happened yesterday, twenty sixteen, and yeah, yeah, a little
put ah right, there's a hint, bam, And I don't
think the guy was ever the same after this happened.
It was like a career changer in my opinion speaking
of anniversary a little Cavino trivia. Yeah, Michael Jordan. It's

(27:40):
really interesting, Rich, because, like you said, what gives Michael
Jordan the mystique that he has is that he played
in an era and in a time where social media
didn't exist, So we didn't know Michael Jordan's opinions. We
didn't know and again, he was still living under a microscope.

(28:01):
Everybody followed the guy, loved the guy, but we didn't
know his real thoughts.

Speaker 3 (28:06):
We did.

Speaker 2 (28:08):
Mike, if Danny g was heir he to be grumbling. Yeah,
I'm grumbling inside. I'm giving you some side I Sam.
But I think that's part of the reason why we
still love him the way we do is because we
only really knew him as a basketball player and as
the guy that wore air. Jordan's Some criticize him for

(28:29):
not speaking up on certain issues.

Speaker 3 (28:32):
Issues.

Speaker 2 (28:32):
Yeah, to the point where you know, you don't really
say much. You can't upset many people.

Speaker 3 (28:36):
He was a different times.

Speaker 2 (28:38):
He's lost in the eighties and nineties, everyone wanted to
be like Mike and with the NBA returning to NBC.

Speaker 3 (28:47):
And round Ball, Rock is making a comeback.

Speaker 2 (28:52):
Well, Rich Basketball the record Riches Rich is a bigger
John Tesh fan than he is a Michael Jordan fan.
But I think part of the NBA on NBC Michael
Jordan angle John Tesh. And it was also announced that

(29:14):
Vince Carter is going to be part of the coverage coverage.
I think they're really looking for that nostalgia. I don't
think Jordan's doing it for the money. I think He's
doing it for that fan base and the younger fan
base that he still needs. It's like marketing one on
one for me, you know, I always use the same
example Rich. Big brands like Budwise or Coca Cola, they're

(29:38):
not advertising to you. You know, you know what that is.
They're advertising for the younger generation. So it's in their
brain brand recognition. And the NBA is still the young
man's game, and a lot of people, a lot of
young people watch it. They know of Michael Jordan. They
never saw him play, really they I've seen the highlights,

(30:00):
they know the shoes. But you know what, now he's
going to be there every once in a while back
in everybody's face, young people says, reminding everybody that he's
the guy. I think last Dance was for some For
a younger generation, I think that might have been the
most they learned or knew about Michael Jordan watching that
documentary during COVID and perhaps just a reminder. I just

(30:23):
want to talk you about the money for a second,
because every time I hear someone say, man, I wonder
what they're paying this guy, you know, my first thought
is I read that he makes about four to five
hundred million dollars a year. We're talking half a billion dollars,
billions and billions and billions. Guy makes four one hundred
plus billion dollars from the Jordan Brandon Nike not too shait.

Speaker 3 (30:48):
And billions and billions and billions and billions.

Speaker 2 (30:51):
And when you make that much money, even if he
got a Tom Brady contract, what did Tom make three
hundred something million over ten years? If Michael Jordan made
twenty thirty million dollars a year NBA and NBC, which
he's not, if he did to be a contributor, that
would still be like, man, what does that mean when
you're making It's like, uh, you know they always say

(31:11):
like a guy like Bezos or yeah, he's not doing
it for the Munderberg. Like if they said to stop
and pick up one hundred dollars bill as a waste
of their time.

Speaker 3 (31:19):
Those type of silly things you hear.

Speaker 2 (31:21):
How much you ever see that stat of like how
much Bezos makes per minute? Michael Jordan doesn't need the
NBA on NBC's money. No, I mean, why is he
doing doing it for free? But yeah, it's not for
the money. I think it's again just to be out there.
Might miss it a little bit. I also think a reminder,
like hey, world, as as we all get older and

(31:43):
younger generations come into play, I want to remind everyone
here Michael Jordan. Here, I'm the I'm the goat. But
here's the thing. Can I give you another example. He's
a busy guy. He doesn't need this. He's got a
lot going on, Like we said, endorsements, race team, He's
Michael Jordan.

Speaker 3 (31:59):
He's a brand.

Speaker 2 (31:59):
He's a he's a walking brand, is walking around. Have
you every think he's bored though, meaning like you know
you love that game. Might miss the NBA actually being
part of it, a part of you know when you say,
like when people say if you win the lottery, would
you retire? He's board golfing and living in an awesome life.
I don't know that could be. You can't discount that.
I'm just saying to imagine if every day you had

(32:19):
the ability to go on a yacht, go on a
private plane, go wherever you want. You know, I think
after a while you might be like a right, maybe
maybe I.

Speaker 3 (32:27):
Want a little meaning, maybe I want a little something.

Speaker 2 (32:30):
Okay, but let's break this down, special contributor, very specific.

Speaker 3 (32:35):
What does it mean.

Speaker 2 (32:37):
It means he's not gonna be there all the time,
That's what I think. And he's gonna do his best
and it's gonna be interesting. I guess Bryant gumbles sort
of thing, meaning I think he's didn't do some interviews
or some produced sort of package once in a while.
But he's not gonna be that guy that's there all
the time because they're so pumped to have him as
part of NBC that it's on his schedule and and

(33:00):
they're always gonna keep him in that great light because
his brand's too big to take any risk. I don't
think we're gonna see like his true feelings on a
certain situation. I'm glad you're fut him down, young players, Like,
let's just have his style and I don't think it's
gonna work for his brand, and I think it's gonna
be Remember when Roger Clemens was like, yeah, I'll pitch,

(33:20):
but I don't really want to pitch, and I really
don't have to pitch you no, like Rocket, but it'll
be like home games and we'll you know, revolve.

Speaker 3 (33:28):
Everything around you.

Speaker 2 (33:30):
So he's like, all right, I guess I think that's
what they're gonna do for Michael Jordan, Like, hey, look,
you're Michael Jordan. You don't need us, but guess what
we really want you. So we're gonna do what you want,
when you want, and how you want, and that's really it,
and we'll reap the benefits because we'll see him and.

Speaker 3 (33:45):
Then a whole younger audience also gets to see him. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (33:48):
I think there's also something to be said about too
much to risk with the brand and look down at
your feet right now, at least someone in this room
is wearing dunks or Jordan's or something, right, I mean,
they got boxes of them. It's a brand, But I
should you say jeepers every chief though, where'd you get them?

Speaker 3 (34:04):
Pay least?

Speaker 2 (34:04):
Yets his shoes at pay least? So I'm just wearing crocs.
By the way, I'm not wearing crocs. I'm wearing low
I'm wearing dunks today. But most guys own at least
one pair of Jordan's. There's too much to risk. So
I'm saying you're not gonna hear any like crazy hot.

Speaker 3 (34:21):
Takes from Michael Jordan. It's gonna be pretty safe and
he'll be in control.

Speaker 2 (34:25):
And I believe most are saying they'll likely be prepackaged
like nice segments that nothing live picture stuff, like big
picture stuff. Think about it this way. It's been forty
years today since he won Rookie of the Year, right, Yeah,
it's been a minute nineteen eighty five. Do you know
anything about where Michael Jordan's stands on like current players? No,

(34:49):
you barely know how he feels about Lebron, which was
never really honestly, I think what Lebron wanted it to be.
You kind of knew how he felt about Kobe, right.
They had a mutual respect there for sure, but you
don't know what he thinks. I think you're gonna get
that from Vince Carter, that's like his role. I think
you're gonna get some great insight there. He's not gonna
come out and try to be like like Shack and

(35:11):
Charles Barkley is not even gonna be his role special contributor,
very specific.

Speaker 3 (35:16):
You know he stands on yachts.

Speaker 2 (35:18):
Yeah, that's pretty much where he stands these you know,
I'll say this on golf courses. You're right, sometimes legends
have the ability to quote past the torch, intentionally or unintentionally, right,
like if David Letterman. I always remember David Letterman. Conan
talks about how there was a moment where Letterman sort

(35:41):
of gave him the thumbs up. He went on Conan
Show when it first started, and he was like.

Speaker 3 (35:47):
You're a you're a young funny guy.

Speaker 2 (35:49):
I like this guy, Conan, And by doing that he
pretty much told the late night audience.

Speaker 3 (35:53):
I David Letterman endorse. Who's top of the heap? Who?

Speaker 2 (35:59):
Who didn't love Dave letter of the Hill, King of
the Hill eight number one. He said to the world, Yeah,
I liked his young Conan kid. I think Michael Jordan
has the ability to really endorse. And by the way
someone hold on pause also sign of great character because
a guy like David Letterman doesn't have to do it.
We've been in radio a long time. I don't think

(36:20):
anyone has ever been like a Covino and Rich you
know who has Colin Kowher. He's always sid nice things
about us. Yeah, and it shows you, honestly that he's
the man. My dad would say him kissing as hey,
don't be kissing as I'm not. It's the truth. But
in other places we worked the big dogs there, they
never really acknowledged us at all. So for David Letterman

(36:42):
to do that shows a lot about who he is
and the fact that the great Dan Patrick is like
those guys are my filling right. Yeah, it's it's the
pat on the back where I guess you would say
the endorsement. Michael Jordan has the ability to go on
MBA on NBC yep and say, hey, you know what
world if you ask me, Michael Jordan, you know the

(37:03):
goat that everyone loves. You're wearing my sneakers right now,
and oh look you probably have a paral along with
my Jumpman logo.

Speaker 3 (37:09):
Anthony Edwards or you know, just might be my son
Wim Begnon love. This boy.

Speaker 2 (37:15):
What if he's like wim Beagnon Love, But you know
he's the face like whatever he says would carry so much,
Oh my god, so much week he could make the
next King.

Speaker 3 (37:24):
Yeah he can make it.

Speaker 2 (37:25):
Yeah, I nite him something he really never did for Lebron,
and Brie has an angle that involves guys like Lebron
and why Mjay's doing this, And we'll get to that
and the other anniversary that we teased.

Speaker 3 (37:40):
We'll get to that next.

Speaker 2 (37:41):
All right, cnr In for the Great Dan Patrick Fox
Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (37:45):

it's all week.

Speaker 4 (38:21):
We've been really, Morris the Alligator has gotten more like
eulogized than uh Val Kilmer.

Speaker 3 (38:27):
No, seriously, yeah, it's ridiculous.

Speaker 1 (38:29):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (38:30):
We did talk about that believe it or not, on
our show, Yes, my hand, oh my god?

g has our best of the Week dropping, so be

drop some blue and orange donuts at your house tomorrow.
Sounds double doozy, get you fat, and that's colors perfect.

Speaker 3 (39:31):
I'm doing the.

Speaker 2 (39:31):
First part on my own. I stuffed my face yesterday.
Oh today, did you mention that there's a new Mexican
place in the area And I tried it out per
spots recommendation, and I'm like, I don't know. I turned
a random Thursday into a fiesta and I actually good. Yeah,
they called yeah, it's ridiculous. So I gained thirty pounds yesterday.
But I'm happy to be here. What's your fun fact

(39:53):
about Mexico restaurant? You love to say, I don't know
what for every four chips you have? Do you have
to realize that's like taco TORTILLASO? Yeah, but for every
four chips, man, and I must have had about four
hundred chips yesterday and forty tortillas. So anyway, Sam is here,
Bri is here. Spot on the videos at Covino and

(40:14):
Rich Fox Sports Radios YouTube channel.

Speaker 3 (40:16):
Check it out.

Speaker 2 (40:17):
And before we talk about the other anniversary, because there's
another anniversary this week that involves a moment in baseball
that changed someone's career. It's also today is also the
fortieth anniversary of Michael Jordan's Rookie of the Year nineteen
eighty five, and we've been posting a question all week,
well what a special contributor mean, why is he now
doing NBA on NBC. Yeah, what's the motive? Hey, Bri,

(40:41):
what's your theory on it? Because I do find it
really interesting, Brie super producing.

Speaker 3 (40:46):
What are your thoughts?

Speaker 5 (40:47):
I was just thinking that it's just a different audience. Now,
it's a whole different generation now, right that that.

Speaker 3 (40:54):
And you had a thought about Lebron James.

Speaker 5 (40:56):
Lebron has a podcast, Mind the Game with Steve Nash,
who I obviously the love, but it's just a different
type of you know, media, right, Like you can compare
the two, Like, Okay, Lebron has this podcast and now
I'm just gonna be on like.

Speaker 3 (41:09):
Huge network TV.

Speaker 2 (41:11):
So Michael Jordan's still so competitive and wants to remind
every generation that he's still the guy because he's seeing
all these other players making moves after basketball and they
all have their podcast and Lebron James, you know, how
many years does he have left? Maybe he wants to
step into booth and follow the Tom Brady's of the
world and the other goats of the world. They do it,

(41:32):
and Michael Jordan's like, Nah, I'm the dude. I'm doing
NBA on NBC. I hate to say it, he's still
maybe that competitive. I hate to say it, but the
same way the Kelsey Brothers, because of the popularity of
Taylor Swift and everything, they decided to do a podcast.
Immediately it was like number one. There's a million NBA podcasts,

(41:53):
But if Michael Jordan decided to do one or just
enter the media world, the reality is, guess what it
would be Covino number one, number one, It's Michael Jordan.
So maybe there is a competitive nature that goes even
that far where it's like, yo, everyone else got a
podcast or a show. Maybe special contributor really means blocking
Lebron James and you know, entering that world a little bit.
