Speaker 2 (00:19):
It says everything you need to know about the way
we view certain college football programs. That the number one
team in the country, the number one team in the
college football Playoff, the dominant team throughout the course of
this season. Undefeated Indiana is up seventeen to nothing after
one half of their first playoff game, and everybody's surprised.
(00:43):
He's buck rising on Jason Fitz taking over.
Speaker 3 (00:46):
Oh, non believers, doubters, haters, look at says.
Speaker 4 (00:52):
Who's surprised?
Speaker 2 (00:55):
You really? You want to know the answer to that? Everybody?
Speaker 4 (00:57):
So, I don't know. We learned twelve, by the way,
suck it nerd.
Speaker 2 (01:02):
Okay, this is only going to get worse for the
next hour, by the way.
Speaker 3 (01:06):
Because if they score again, I am going to be unbearable.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
Well right now, the question is are they about to
get the ball back? And the answer to that appears
to be yes. It looks like they're going to get
the ball back and have the opportunity to do some
damage this college football playoffs so far. And the funny
thing is, Buck, let's be honest, I keep going back
to Indiana because I want to give credit here. Too
much of the conversation for the next three, four or
(01:31):
five days is going to be about where Alabama failed.
But when you look at the way this college football
playoff is played through so far, like we saw Ohio
State get their asses kicked by Miami, right, We've seen
certainly over and over and over again, we've seen results
that are like, Okay, I get it right. We watched
Texas Tech that was a favorite, or the higher seede
(01:52):
I should say, against Oregon and get absolutely beat down
by Oregon. We are finally seeing a higher seated team
come out and play like the higher seeded dominant team
we thought they should be. And now everybody's shocked by this.
Indiana has been the best team in the country. They're
the number one team in the playoff, and they're just
simply showing us why right now.
Speaker 3 (02:12):
OH and six are all other teams. This was courtesy
of the broadcast earlier. OH and six are all other
teams who have had a first round by except with
an entire half of football to play the Indiana Hoosiers, who,
by the way, are up seventeen to nothing on an
opponent who in their first round of the college football playoff.
We're down seventeen to nothing to their previous opponent came
back and won the game.
Speaker 4 (02:32):
So I still don't feel great. I'm I am the score.
Speaker 2 (02:35):
Here be that moment like if they go up twenty
four to nothing, then do your no no start to
say yes yes, oh.
Speaker 3 (02:40):
Yeah, then I'm getting naked, like I will be naked
for the final hour of the show.
Speaker 4 (02:44):
Nobody can see us.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
It's fine, just you, Okay, this is where y'all think
he's kidding. He came back the other night and when
we were on radio Tuesday night, we start our number
two and suddenly books in just a terry cloth hotel rope.
I have no idea why all of a sudden, like
I'm just impressed that tonight you're not in a robe.
Speaker 3 (03:02):
You know.
Speaker 2 (03:03):
It just feels like now I've given him an idea.
If he doesn't talk for a few minutes, it probably
means he went the road looking at so I can,
I can.
Speaker 4 (03:12):
I have multiple just so you know, different materials. You know.
Speaker 2 (03:18):
I still, I still think it's a Now, I'm worried
that I want a field goal, not a touchdown. If
a field goal happens, maybe he'll keep his pants on.
I can't. I can't promise that.
Speaker 3 (03:26):
I think a field goal is enough to the field
goal will start strip strip pokering our way through the
rest of the game.
Speaker 2 (03:32):
Okay, suddenly I roll tide.
Speaker 3 (03:35):
For every field goal, an article of clothing goes. That
is the new rule. Covino and Richard never gonna let.
Speaker 4 (03:42):
Us come back.
Speaker 2 (03:43):
Well, at least they're going to ask that we keep
that same standard every time. Does every show have to
have a thing like pee wee? Herman had a word
of the day, And we're gonna Cavino and Richard every
time certain thing happens. And then all of a sudden,
we're out here, Buck's taking his clothes off. I don't
know what's happening right now. It's been a wild couple
of days, though, and I was loud as you well know.
(04:04):
With you, I was loud about my hatred for the
college football calendar because I wanted the excitement of what
we finally have. So last night we get the shocking
result for a lot of people of Miami, just dismantling
Ohio state. That was shocking for a lot of people.
Then Oregon today took care of business much more physical.
Now we have Indiana controlling both lines of scrimmage, which
(04:25):
I keep going back to is a massive key. And
then tonight we do get Ole Miss versus Georgia, a
rematch matchup. And it's funny because I found myself three
days ago, two days ago, when we were talking about
that game, saying, Okay, well, we have no idea what
Ole Miss really looks like. Different head coach has to
matter at some point, and I believe in proof of concept.
I believe in Ben they're done that sometimes and frankly,
(04:47):
Kirby Smart's one of only two coaches too, you're currently
active to have a national championship. So I have all
the faith in Georgia. Well, over the last twenty four hours,
everything that we would think for faith in Ben, They're
done that hasn't really mattered. So maybe maybe maybe I'm
overvaluing what it means to have been in these situations before.
Given the way the current college football playoff is playing out.
Speaker 4 (05:10):
No, I.
Speaker 3 (05:12):
Don't want to discount that. I mean, why why do
you think you're you're overplaying that.
Speaker 2 (05:17):
Well, because I mean certainly didn't matter at all. I
respect Ryan Day coming on saying it's my fault I
didn't do a good enough job.
Speaker 3 (05:24):
Which, by the way, he took over play calling like that.
That's an underrated storyline in all of this that Brian
Hartline got the Was it South Florida or Central Florida.
Either way, he's the coach of some Florida directional school
at this point in time. The Ohio State offensive coordinator
who went on to the who went on to become
a head coach after being a wide receivers coach. He's
(05:46):
a huge recruiter, obviously, but South he stayed South Florida. Yeah, okay,
so he stayed on staff. But Ryan Day decided that
he was going to take over the play calling in
that situation. And I don't necessarily think I think it
was an interesting thing to kind of key an eye on,
because what did we just say, Ohio State's offense look disjointed,
and Ryan Day's been a play caller before.
Speaker 4 (06:07):
It's not like he's never done that.
Speaker 3 (06:08):
Job, and certainly he's been a head coach and play
caller before, so I don't want to put too much
value into that, but like that is a factor that
I'm sure we'll be discussed throughout the course of the
fallout for Ohio State. I'm certain Ohio State fans are
not ignorant to that fact. I haven't checked message boards
or anything like that, but I think that there's a
couple of different things. There's a lot of context around
(06:30):
the situations that have seen these teams in the first
round or that have gotten rather the first round by
fall short. Now the really interesting one because I don't know,
I expected this to be a closer game. Vegas clearly
thought that Indiana was superior by a considerable margin. Seven
and a half points on a neutral field is a
huge line for Indiana over Alabama. I don't care what
(06:52):
year it is and who's coaching those teams. That's an
insane thing to see. What's going to be really interesting
is tonight Ole miss who you know, just waltzed by
Tulane for the second time this season and is doing
it with most of their staff intact. It sounds like
Lane Kiffin is going to be attending the LSU's women's
basketball game tonight, as opposed to peeking in on the.
Speaker 2 (07:15):
Good idea, on the just a good idea. Lane for once,
that's a good idea.
Speaker 3 (07:19):
But Georgia, Yeah, he's He's very difficult to defend if
you are somebody who has any interest whatsoever in defending
Lane Kiffin, of which I have very little, even though
I enjoy point being the real interesting sample size tonight
because I don't know, I was curious to see how
Indiana would look after a twenty day layoff. But the
(07:40):
thing that I most appreciate about the Kurt Signetti experience
is something that we talked about earlier. They are never unprepared.
They have not once looked unprepared. They have been outmatched,
they have been beaten in Signetti's first year. They obviously
haven't lost a game this year, but they have never
looked unprepared for the moment for the opponent. And that's
holding so again today with a seventeen to nothing lead,
(08:03):
as we get what a little we're about midway through
the third quarter at this point in time, Georgia is
also somebody who I think of in that same context.
I think that Kirby Smart is as good of a
motivator in a single moment as any coach in the country.
I think that he can get the best out of
his players on a dime. I think that Gunner Stockton
is one of the most impressive quarterbacks in college football
(08:23):
this year. And I think that they've you know, their
defense isn't what you typically associate Georgia with, but they're
good enough and they're getting coached up enough. What do
they look like tonight against an Ole Miss team that is,
you know, got the They've got the kind of motivation
that you can't just manifest. Right, they've got Our coach
didn't even believe in us, He left us for a
(08:43):
better dig. Let's go out there and beat everybody's ass
under Pete Golding and prove them wrong. I don't know
if that's got enough of an effect to get past
Georgia tonight. In fact, I think Georgia wins, and wins
pretty comfortably as.
Speaker 4 (08:55):
Indian scored another damn touch.
Speaker 3 (08:57):
Let's go twenty three enough see that. I was waiting,
Oh my god, that feels so good. Look at those
sad ass Bama fans.
Speaker 4 (09:04):
Suck it.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
God, No, he's buck Rising. Just to be very clear,
he is Buck Riders.
Speaker 4 (09:12):
Come find me. I am.
Speaker 2 (09:13):
I'm at Jason Fitz It's all his fault. Be sure
to check out brand new YouTube.
Speaker 3 (09:17):
Goofy quarterback, throw it all over your Alabama defense.
Speaker 2 (09:21):
Pinpoint throw, great placements. Fernanda Mendoza having a nice game,
but he's not the key. I'll tell you about it
a second. Be sure to check out the new YouTube channel.
Just search Caveno and rich FSR on YouTube. Again Cavino

which of our takes you agree with them. Who's you
(09:43):
disagree with? Again Buck Rising. Check out a brand new
channel on YouTube. Just search Coveno and rich FSR and subscribe. Okay,
so there's one. There's one threat that we've seen absolutely
every game so far. It is continuing right now, and
it is why George is gonna win this football game.
I think the read that we are seeing as we
stand right now, and this is the easy number that
(10:04):
I'm going to go to. I'm gonna go to. We
just mentioned Fernando Mendoza. Obviously he's having a good game,
taking nothing away from the fact that he is having
a good game right now. In this game, Alabama has
eleven rushing attempts. Hear me on this Alabama has eleven
rushing attempts so far as we sit right now, Indiana
has thirty two. Go back to the game earlier, Oregon
(10:27):
in that game against Texas Tech, I mentioned it they
weren't able to run the ball with the damn but
they tried the entire game. Oregon finished with forty seven
carries for sixty four yards. That's compared to thirty carries
for Texas Tech. Right, there's a thread happening here. If
you go back then you look, in fact at the
Miami game. If you look at Miami against Ohio State
(10:48):
and take a look at their rushing attempts. Right, We're
not even just talking about success running the ball. I'm
just talking about are you trying to run the ball?
Ohio State tried to run the ball twenty four times.
Miami ran the ball thirty seven. The thing that we
are seeing so far is controlling the lines of scrimmage
is absolutely how you win this game. So as much
as we're quarterback obsessed, Fernando Mendoza just throws the touchdown pass.
(11:12):
Part of the way he was able to throw that
touchdown pass is because they're establishing the run. My concern
for this Georgia ole Miss game is go back and
look at when they played earlier this season, when Ole
Miss had twenty four carries for eighty eight yards. Right
in that same game, Georgia had forty nine carries for
two one hundred and twenty one yards. The one through
thing that we are seeing in every one of these
(11:34):
college football playoff matchups so far is the team that
commits to just trying to establish It doesn't even matter
if you're running the ball effectively. The team that is
just out there wearing you down attempting to run the
ball is the team that wins the game.
Speaker 3 (11:50):
Yeah, And that's the kind of strategy that you have
to have in the postseason, no matter what level of
football that we're talking about.
Speaker 4 (11:57):
Right.
Speaker 3 (11:57):
We mentioned a different version of this when we were
talking about the Ravens and their formula for success moving
forward and why the hell it took Todd Monkins so
long to just give Derek Henry the football And maybe
your defense isn't the defense to lean upon at this
point in time. But you have to be able to
control the game in the trenches. It's why I think.
You know, this gets into larger conversations about philosophy and
(12:18):
roster building and things like that, but I just think
it's so much more valuable to have the advantage in
the trenches than any other position on the field, and
I would argue even more so than quarterback, because if
you give an average quarterback the support of a ground
game to balance out the offense and an offensive line
in front of him, that's going to keep him clean.
Speaker 4 (12:36):
For the most part.
Speaker 3 (12:36):
I think you can get plenty pretty replacement level two
above average quarterback play out of just about any starting
caliber quarterback in that circumstance. I'm not saying the quarterback,
you know, isn't still the most important play position in
all of sports. We understand the level of importance and
the level of responsibility that's that's had there, but I think.
Speaker 4 (12:55):
That there the formula is just so cle, so clear
and obvious.
Speaker 3 (12:58):
And this is the thing that coaches will tell you
all the time, even the coaches that make this mistake,
is that sometimes you get too cute, Sometimes you overthink things,
sometimes you try and you know, come up with all
of these complicated blitzes, and if you're a defensive coordinator,
all these different complicated coverage looks and disguises and things
like that, only for a young, inexperienced quarterback to beat
(13:19):
your design because he doesn't nobody's looking at anyway, and
he's just going to try and complete a pass. Or
you think you big brain your way into an offensive
game plan that just again, to use the Ravens example,
that doesn't lean enough on Derrick Henry in the most
important moment of the game, when that's your best source
of momentum. If Lamar Jackson is struggling and all of
a sudden you're looking around being like that guy is
a weapon, why aren't you using him?
Speaker 4 (13:41):
Why keep it simple? Stupid?
Speaker 3 (13:42):
Football is not complicated. It's just about it's just detailed. Okay,
it's not that complicated. There is a huge gulf between
those two things. And I think if you look at
the kind of moments when these coaches get caught up,
and it's understandable. We all do in our professions. We
all over things. We all you know, sometimes get too cute.
(14:02):
But when your when your job, your livelihood, the fortunes
of everybody on your roster and your coaching staff or
hanging in the balance. Don't be the guy that gets
too cute.
Speaker 2 (14:14):
Maybe the smartest thing you've ever said, football is not complicated.
It's detail oriented. I'm gonna steal that. You could be
that smart too. If you checked out University of Maryland

Welcome back to Cavino and Rich on Fox Sports Radio.
It's a Bucking Fits takeover Buck Rising. I'm Jason fitz
Show sponsored by DraftKings sportsbook and official betting partner of
the NFL and NBA. Right now, use this promo code
crs well c our Show. I'll read it right see
our show to claim your very special offer at DraftKings.
(15:54):
Again that promo code cur show At DraftKings, the crown
is yours. We have a quarterback change at this point.
Looks like due to some due to an injury, so
Austin Mack is in at the quarterback position for Alabama.
Ty Simpson in the first half had a play where
he fumbled the ball. He took a hit, looked like
(16:14):
his hand was stepped on in that process too. During halftime,
apparently they worked on it, but he just can't get
the velocity on the football that he needs to. So
now Austin Mack is in to Austin Mack's credit, sophomore
by the way, only throwing sixteen passes all year, but
he is driving them down the field and has gotten
them into a goal to go situation. So they're about
to have second in goal to go. But if you
are just tuning in right now, the score is Indiana
(16:36):
twenty four Alabama nothing. Now there are still four minutes
to go in the third, so plenty of time for
this thing to make Buck Rising uncomfortable? How we feel like?
How we feeling like? You get this backup quarterback coming in? Now?
We got the Disney movie Do we have two of
part two?
Speaker 4 (16:54):
Do I? Well?
Speaker 3 (16:55):
That was the thing that I said to you during
the break. And if Austin Mack is gonna gonna do
this thing, he's got to protect himself a little better.
He just took a pretty decent size hit on that scramble,
a beautiful throat to Josh Quavis the tight end on
the move though to set them up in the red zone.
Alabama is excuse me, macus three of three for fifty
one yards on just this drive a loan. So we'll
(17:17):
see if you can't punch it in here. I mean,
this is the last time Bamas that had to do
something similar, right, was two in Jalen Hurts in the
in the championship game. One of the ballsiest coaching decisions
you've ever seen a coach make, no matter Nick Saban
or anybody else in between. Obviously Saban made the call
and was correct in it is their hand is being
forced in this situation, which is the biggest difference.
Speaker 4 (17:40):
Obviously.
Speaker 3 (17:40):
I do want to say though, that I you know,
I've been I've been celebrating the demise of Alabama as
an Indiana alum and bandwagon Indiana football fan because I've
never cared about that football program.
Speaker 4 (17:51):
A day in my life before.
Speaker 3 (17:53):
I would even argue this year, I didn't really I
didn't really get into it last year either, if I'm
being completely honest with you. But it's fine, we're here now.
I want to say that I have been celebrating the
demise of Alabama. I do not want to see Ty
Simpson have to go out like that.
Speaker 4 (18:07):
He is a.
Speaker 3 (18:10):
He's just a competitor. He's an incredible competitor. Not just
because we've got a little bias towards him here in
the state of Tennessee. He is a Tennessee product, and
a lot of people is sticking point for him to
go to Alabama over Tennessee. But he's waited his turn
to get the opportunity. He has helped get them to
this point. You know, it's a team effort, a team game.
(18:30):
No one individual player is going to will you to
a win. As you've said many times, correctly fits. But
I would hate for him to. I would hate for
this to be the way that ty Simpson's season ends
as an Alabama wide receiver takes a pretty gnarly hit
on an incomplete pass.
Speaker 2 (18:48):
Oh and part of what we don't know depending on
how this game ends up playing out. If this is
the end and Alabama is able to put three on
the board, so now it's twenty four to three. If
this is the way the Alabama a season ends, what
we don't know is is this the way that ty
Simpson's college football career is right, Because there are certainly
plenty of people that think that ty Simpson could, should,
(19:09):
or would declare for the NFL Draft, in which case
most people believe he would be a first round selection
of some sort so you know, is this in Alabama
certainly has never had a hard time and Kaylyn do
bores never had a hard time finding quarterbacks. They have
some recruits that they really like. They've got some players
in the kitty that they really like. It's not a
situation where everything's suddenly you know, desperate for Alabama. This
(19:33):
isn't that. It's just boy, wohen you're Ty Simpson. I
don't think this is how you envisioned your career in
college coming to a close. It's just part of what
the inevitability of the college football playoff is, right Like,
So when I see him go out, my first thought is, man,
is this the last that we've seen at Ty Simpson
in college football? Or Ty Simpson at Alabama? You know,
there's so many options now for guys. They're going to
(19:55):
look at their draft status. Then they're going to figure
out how much they could make in the portal if
they went somewhere or do they stay where they are
right So it's just a million different variables that they'll
have to figure out. Indiana is going to need to
respond here though, I also think it's fair to say, hey,
you know, the backup quarterback comes in Austin Mack comes in,
drives you down the field, gets you three points. Now,
(20:17):
all of a sudden, there's just a little taste of
momentum that's headed towards Alabama. It's still a three score game,
still a three touchdown lead that you have. I don't
think this guy's falling in this situation, but you do
want to see sort of what Indiana is capable of doing.
And again, I think that's just going to come from
how much time has been spent on the field for
(20:37):
this Alabama defense trying to slow Indiana's offense down. So
certainly with a quarter to play, feel pretty good. It
is wild. I never, I guess maybe never is the
wrong thing. But I think if you'd have told me
coming into the season that it looks like as we
stand right now, the final four in the College Football
playoff would be two Big ten teams Oregon and Indiana
(21:00):
CC team and in Miami that we didn't even think
was gonna make the playoffs, and then one SEC team,
the winner of Georgia and Ole Miss like the SEC team,
not the SEC champion, but like one SEC team making
into this. It just it all feels so, it all
feels so disjointed this year. It's just this is a
beautiful thing. Buck.
Speaker 3 (21:22):
Don't the chaos. This is your whole the entire time.
Let it burn, baby, No, I'm in.
Speaker 2 (21:30):
The only thing you can make it better is if
we could get no SEC teams in the final four,
just to watch everybody lose their mind, or no Big Ten.
I don't care. I just want one or two of
the I'm I'm a big believer that Big Ten. Whenever
the Big Ten and the SEC have their argument, my
conference is better. That is the grown up equivalent of
my dad can beat up your dad. You're never actually
gonna fight. It's never really gonna be proven. Like I
(21:53):
think if we could just go back to elementary school
and say, great, if you ever tell somebody that my
dad can beat up your dad, they now to get
in an octagon and have a full UFC fight. Like now,
I'm man like, there's just no way to ever really
prove which conference is better. Everybody finds the metrics and
the stats that they like, so whichever result creates tolechaos.
I want Martin, get us caught up on the scoreboard.
(22:15):
What else is going on? Tell us all the everything
that happening is right now across the landscape.
Speaker 7 (22:20):
Often Mack in the game at quarterback for Alabama. After
ty Simpson took a shot, he got his hand stepped
on and apparently is not being able to play a little.
The timeline I tell you that ty Simms was being
bench poor play. I don't necessarily buy that because Alabama
has had nothing offensively in this Rolls Bowl so far.
It's twenty four to three Indiana over Alabama right now
(22:42):
with two forty five left in the third quarter. Fernando
Mendoza one hundred and twenty three yards through the air,
one thirty five on the ground.
Speaker 8 (22:48):
For the Hoosier team.
Speaker 7 (22:50):
Quick math, I'd like less than one hundred and sixty
yards for Alabama offensively throughout this un again, two forty
five left in the third quarter and Nanda Mendoza and
Indiana with a first and ten handoff. Earlier in college football,
he saw Oregon advanced twenty three to nothing over Texas
Tech and the Orange Bowl, Oregon defense shutting down that
Texas Tech offense. Miami beat Ohio State and the Cotton
(23:13):
Bowl twenty four to fourteen. Miami in the final four
of Oregon as well. The winner of this will go there,
and then the winner of Ole Miss and Georgia will
meet them in the Final four for the final spot.
Speaker 8 (23:23):
They play in the Sugar Bowl later tonight.
Speaker 7 (23:25):
Lamar Jackson is expected to start with the Ravens on
Sunday against the Steelers.
Speaker 8 (23:29):
He has a back injury. Saints wide receiver Chris.
Speaker 7 (23:32):
Olave out for the finale for the season, will do
a blood clots. Jordan Love clear concussion protocol. He's gonna
sit though, until the playoffs start. For the Packers have
already locked up their postseason position. Not the same situation
for Tampa Bay, who needs to win to get in,
but they won't have cornerback Jamel Dean or a linebacker
Anthony Nelson against the Panthers and Packers. Echos Matt Lafleur
(23:54):
said former Dallas cornerback Trayvon Diggs could.
Speaker 8 (23:56):
Be in the lineup for Green Bay against the Vikings.
Speaker 7 (23:59):
Diggs claimed off after the Cowboys released him last week
third and eight for Indiana. Maybe there's some of this
momentum you were talking about fits is coming true for
this Crimson tide, or maybe just poking in Buck's side
back to you, guys, don't.
Speaker 2 (24:14):
Forget new year. Your new success can begin sooner than
you think. University of Maryland Global Campus, Undergraduate and most
graduate classes start January seventh. You still got time apply
nowt no application fee. Learn more at UMGC dot edu.
Just when Alabama looked like they had them, they don't
have them anymore. Indiana converts for a big first down buck.
(24:35):
We were talking earlier about Lamar is gonna play and
what it means for the Ravens and the Steelers moving forward.
But there is one reason why I look at this year,
particularly with the Ravens, and I just I hate one
thing about the result that we're likely to see. I
think we can both agree that it right now, it
would be a surprise if the Ravens won the Super Bowl. Unfortunately,
(24:57):
we talk so much about super Bowls and championship and legacies.
All I keep thinking about with Lamar coming back in
is the opportunity lost because there's no Chiefs in the
playoffs this year. Everything went to hell in a hand
basket for Kansas City, which is fine, that's fine, right,
But so much of my conversation about when we talk
about championships has ben Hey, you have to acknowledge who
else is in the league at the time. So, yeah,
(25:18):
Josh Allen doesn't have a championship, Lamar Jackson doesn't have
a championship. Okay, well of course they don't. They're taking
on the best head coach, with the best quarterback of
his generation, with the best defensive coordinator right now, like
all of these things that wants on a Chiefs team
that just keeps winning Super Bowl after Super Bowl, they're
hogging all the championships. They're hogging all the Super Bowl appearances.
One thing that really stands out to me though about
(25:39):
opportunity lost for the Ravens if they're not able to
get into the playoffs, if they're not able to go
on a run, is this was one of those years
where the window is open. I mean for the Josh's
and Lamars that simply don't get a lot of shots
at championships because of the Mahomes. You got to take
advantage of the window when it's even cracked open. It's
wild to me to think that right now Vegas thinks
there's a better chance that Drake may is gonna go
(26:01):
home with the Super Bowl ring than any of these
quarterbacks that we constantly talk about as MVPs that need
these sort of moments because that will avenge in twenty years.
It'll be part of the context of how we look
at this era of quarterback.
Speaker 4 (26:14):
Man. Well, can I pivot the conversation real quick? Just
based off the Drake May thing.
Speaker 3 (26:19):
Not that I'm not interested in what you just asked me,
but I wonder what you make of the Drake May
Matt Stafford thing, because Matt Stafford played that game on
what was that Monday night football against the Falcons and
the Ram loss.
Speaker 4 (26:33):
Rams lost. He threw three interceptions.
Speaker 3 (26:34):
You and I have talked about this at some point,
I'm sure in the Overnight show that we did the
other night for Jason Smith and Mike Carmon. But is
there a scenario in which Drake May is just has
Drake May really earned MVP consideration, like truly and honestly
(26:55):
earned MVP consideration, Because I saw last year Lamar Jackson
earn real MVP consideration and still lose it. Anyway, It's
the best season of Laura Jackson's career and he lost
the MVP after having two MVP awards where he had
played football at a lesser level. Drake May is fine,
(27:15):
Drake May has been I mean, he was dominated against
the Jets in the last time that we saw him.
Speaker 4 (27:19):
So I'm not and listen.
Speaker 3 (27:21):
Like, you go out there and you beat whoever's ass
you want to you that's across from you, and that's
all you can do at that point in time. I'm
not down on Drake May by any stretch of the imagination.
I just think it's so bizarre that, like one sample
size of Matt Stafford throwing three interceptions late in the season,
when the Rams are still probably the best team in
football top to bottom, would just completely crater Matt's I
(27:42):
mean not completely crater, but like completely put him so
far behind Drake May, who, as you mentioned earlier in
the show, has a record the same record as Jackson
Dart against teams with a winning record so far this season,
and the Patriots have i think, the easiest schedule in
the NFL.
Speaker 2 (27:57):
If I'm not mistaken, I'm gonna oversimplify my answer to
your question because I get answered. I get asked all
the time. You know about Hall of Fame status for guys.
Is this guy a Hall of Famer? It's a it's
a common barbershop conversation. My answer to that is really
almost never about stats, because stats from every error are
so difficult to digest.
Speaker 4 (28:20):
Right.
Speaker 2 (28:20):
My answer to that question more often than not is
when the schedule comes out and you're a fan of
a team and you look at the schedule for years,
if you open up the schedule and you're like, man,
what was the thing you said? God, we gotta take
on Brady, God, we gotta take on Peyton. Part of
the reason that I've never really felt like for me,
Eli isn't really what I think of as a Hall
(28:40):
of Famer, even though he has some big accomplishments in
his career, is I don't remember everybody, anybody ever starting
the year saying, oh damn, man, we gotta take on
Eli this year. God, I don't know how we're gonna
beat Like I grew up saying, oh my god, I
don't know how you're gonna beat l Way. Right now,
I constantly look around and say, oh, mahomes, how am
I to beat my homes? And frankly, I just don't
(29:04):
think that that is the mind. Most of us are
not looking at this playoff run that's about to happen
and saying, oh my god, how are you gonna take
down Drake? Like how is that going to be possible.
I think part of the reason that more fans and
more people that watch are scared of Josh Allen. Like,
Josh Allen and the Bills have not had a better
year than the New England Patriots, and they both played
(29:24):
soft schedules. That's fine, but I've seen moment after moment
after moment where it's like the Bills just rolled the
ball out and said, Josh Allen, go do something, and
then he's forced to be Superman and do fifty two
things that you just can't even figure out how to stop.
And then all of a sudden you end up in
this situation where you're like, oh, that's Josh Allen for you.
Drake May's had some nice plays. I just don't Drake
(29:45):
May doesn't sit there. I don't sit up all week saying,
oh my god, we have to play Drake May this week.
Like that's some my mindset around it.
Speaker 3 (29:52):
I just want to see him really tested, Like I guess,
I guess it's one of those things where maybe he's
capable of that because he's obviously a plus athlete and
he's got a great harm and he's elevating the team
around him. And Josh McDaniels has obviously done a great
deal of good for him as Indiana breaks a long
one touchdown. Dead buried, gone backup quarterback, starting quarterback, Alliot,
(30:16):
take your bomb asses back to Alabama. Oh that feels
so good. That was outstanding. It is now thirty to three,
pending the extra point with fourteen twenty one to play
in the fourth quarter of the Rose Bowl.
Speaker 4 (30:30):
I'm sorry. Back to your regularly pro that is, you.
Speaker 2 (30:34):
Were asking for Drake may to be tested, and then
we watched Alabama get buried. I think that there's like
both are fair, so would I guess for me, there's
just no no one moment that If I was making
a storyboard of the Patriots season and somebody turned around
and said, ooh, put all the NBP Drake Maye moments
(30:54):
up there, I don't know. I struggle to find some
of them.
Speaker 4 (30:58):
Mmmmm, Drake May's MVP moment.
Speaker 2 (31:04):
I mean we always talk about the Heisman moment, right,
like what.
Speaker 3 (31:07):
Is No, we don't really do MVP that way, although
Stafford just had a moment that cost him apparently the MVP.
Speaker 2 (31:12):
Yeah, if one bad game can take you out of it,
then give me the great game with everything on the line,
where it was just, oh my god, got to have
it where Drake May And the answer to this is
probably the Bills game and.
Speaker 3 (31:23):
Yeah at Buffalo, I mean just just top to bottom
at Buffalo.
Speaker 2 (31:27):
And all of this sounds like I'm a Drake mayhater,
Like I'm not a Drake mayhyter. I think Drake may
is developing into one of the great young quarterbacks in
the NFL. I think that's really fair to say. I
also think, just like you and I've talked about people,
how when we get into these playoffs, it's all gonna
be about what Josh Allen hasn't accomplished in the playoffs
with the Bills haven't done in the playoffs. When the
(31:47):
when Lamar gets on the field, it's going to be,
oh my god, if the Ravens make the playoffs, oh
my god, Lamar's got to show something because you know,
we haven't seen Lamar do in the playoffs. What the
hell have we seen from Drake Maya? What in the
hell have we seen from Drake May in the playoffs
to give any indication if we're going to see here
and chied everybody else for their playoff results, I just
want that to keep that same energy for Drake.
Speaker 1 (32:08):
That's all I'm saying.
Speaker 3 (32:09):
I think it's fair, and I listen, I'm not The
Patriots have been in the news this week for reasons
that are beyond Drake May and MVP voting and things
like that. But I don't want to discount what the
Patriots are doing, what that staff and what that roster
have contributed to do for an organization that hasn't, you know,
hasn't had a lack of success by any stretch of
(32:30):
the imagination, though they've been on harder times by their
own standards here lately, it is deeply impressive. I don't
care what your caliber of competition is. What did their
streak end at before they lost to the Bills ten.
Speaker 4 (32:40):
In a row? They won ten straight games in the NFL.
Speaker 3 (32:42):
Ye, that's difficult no matter who you're playing at the
professional level. So it is if you wanted to say, honestly, Fitzy,
I might argue that if you wanted to argue Drake
May's MVP moment, it's ten consecutive wins as an NFL
starting quarterback for a team that won what three games
last year?
Speaker 4 (32:57):
Did the Patriots? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (32:59):
But it's also a team the Vegas thought was gonna
win ten. Like the Vegas over under total coming into
the season was double digits. So like Vegas crazy.
Speaker 4 (33:07):
That was insane, but I mean Vegas smarter than us.
Speaker 2 (33:10):
Vegas looked around and said, oh, this schedule is really bad.
They're gonna win a bunch of games. Like I mean,
so they are who they thought we thought they were. Like,
I don't know, I'm torn on all of this because
so often the head coach of the Year, the MVP,
it all comes from the story that we didn't expect.
And like, I get it, and I get that we're
always in love with shiny new toys. I just at
(33:32):
times think that we could simplify all of it and
just look for you know, I don't know who's the
player that if you tell the story of this season,
who's the player that had the most moments that you
just absolutely have to have to tell that story, the
story of the game. The day Indiana is kicking the
snot at Obama thirty one to three. That is a score.
Now the fourth quarter has just started. Will keep you
updated on that game, plus coming up next, the single's
(33:54):
greatest game show in the history of sports Dark Radio.
Would you rather Bucking fits sitting in for Cavino and
Rich on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 4 (34:02):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.
Speaker 2 (34:07):
He's Buck Rising. I'm Jason Fitz sitting in for Convino
and Rich on Fox Sports Radio Indiana. Up thirty one
to three over Bama Absolute but woopan. Speaking of which,
let's get you some fun with the tire Rack play
of the day.
Speaker 1 (34:21):
Him running back.
Speaker 3 (34:23):
Here's the staff bakes the handoff, looks the thrown holder.
Speaker 4 (34:29):
Two for Junior.
Speaker 2 (34:34):
That's Dom Fisher lear Field with the tire Raq play

they drive, ship fast and free back by for re

Speaker 4 (34:54):
Do you know that I've heard dot settle down? I
want you to simmer the.
Speaker 3 (34:59):
Hell down for a second. Back it off, lose the attitude.
You've got three more hours with me tomorrow morning at
five am Central time. All right, you better just wat
check walking in Okay, Okay, I was simply going to
say that Don Fisher is the goat, and I have
heard Don Fisher. Don Fisher has been the soundtrack to
my life for Indiana basketball, my entire life.
Speaker 4 (35:21):
I have never heard Don Fisher do a football game
until just now. That was sad. That that made me
very happy.
Speaker 2 (35:27):
That is remarkable, all right, Buck, For anyone that's listening
to us for the first time, you can hang out
with us Saturday nights from six to eight pm on
all these Fox Sports radio stations. You can also hang
out with us tomorrow. We'll be in for the boys
on two Pros and a cup of Joe in the morning,
showing about. In eleven hours, we'll be right back here.
But we love to finish every show the same way. Buck,
are you ready for this? It is time for.
Speaker 3 (35:48):
Wod you rather you did it on purpose?
Speaker 4 (35:53):
You dragged it out?
Speaker 5 (35:55):
Don't think too hard on would you rather Bucket, touch
or fix it?
Speaker 2 (36:02):
I hate the way that we do that every time,
But every time I think we're gonna get it and
it never works out. Lead give us some questions, we'll
figure out what we'd rather While Indiana continues to drive
down the field.
Speaker 9 (36:11):
Well, fellas, I think we have a theme going I
think we've done would you rather together?
Speaker 1 (36:15):
For Halloween? Thanksgiving? I think we skipped Christmas?
Speaker 9 (36:19):
But uh, let's go ahead and do a New Year's
New Year's edition of would you rather?
Speaker 1 (36:23):
How about this?
Speaker 9 (36:24):
Would you rather be forced to live up to your
New Year's resolution every single year?
Speaker 1 (36:28):
Or never live up to it every single year?
Speaker 2 (36:30):
I'm forced to live up to it. I'm not a
big resolution guy. I'm a big like man. If you're
ready to make change in your life, make some change
and then, like I'm a big discipline and accountability person.
You say you're gonna do it, just damn do it.
So yeah, like hold me accountable to it all year long. Like,
if you can't make a resolution to stick to it,
then you got to look in the mirror figure this
thing out. Like it just we need to demand better
(36:50):
of ourselves. What about you?
Speaker 4 (36:52):
Or or you just don't.
Speaker 2 (36:55):
Make the resumes, probab, It's gonna be okay, those rumb
brand things.
Speaker 4 (37:01):
You're gonna be all right if you if you have
that soda, if you say you're going to get a
give up soda for for you.
Speaker 3 (37:06):
Know, the entirety of twenty twenty minute, except for FITZI
who's working very, very dilicently to accomplish the things that
he wants to physically, mentally, emotionally.
Speaker 4 (37:13):
All these things mean I'm good on the resolutions. I
don't want to change. I'm very happy.
Speaker 2 (37:17):
My only resolution is to be bigspoon with Buck once
this year. Okay, what do you got for us?
Speaker 4 (37:21):
Actually?
Speaker 9 (37:22):
Well, I think I know what Buck's gonna answer here,
especially in a few seconds. Would you rather attend the
national championship in Miami or the school in Santa Clara?
Speaker 1 (37:29):
That's right there? Oh, there's that delay kicking it?
Speaker 3 (37:32):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (37:33):
Why am I so far behind? I don't know, Man,
you're pretty far.
Speaker 2 (37:37):
It was waiting for whole show is waiting for you?
Thirty eight three now thirty eight to three, Indiana? So
would you rather the championship game for a Super Bowl?
Speaker 8 (37:44):
Buck?
Speaker 4 (37:45):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (37:45):
I mean this is a bad question for me because
I've I've been to Super Bowls and I've never been
to a college football national championship game. So I would
pick the national championship no matter who was playing it.
I just think college football the better atmosphere, no matter
what you're talking about. Maybe you know we've seen some
you know, some lackluster participation or attendance at you know,
Cotton Bowl or Orange Bowl or things like that. I'd
(38:06):
rather be the college Football National Championship.
Speaker 8 (38:08):
Yeah, for many.
Speaker 4 (38:09):
Fine, sanitary you know, that's whatever.
Speaker 2 (38:12):
I've been lucky enough in my career to be at
bolth and for many years, my tradition on the College
Football Championship game every year on that Monday game was
just to walk on the field and you know, pick
up some grass like I just think it's one of
the coolest things in the world. So I don't think
there's anything better than the college Football National Championship game
in person because of the way the fans are as
opposed to the Super Bowl, where certainly it's amazing because
(38:33):
you're at the super Bowl, but it's it's I think
it's way more connective. It's a college football championship.
Speaker 8 (38:39):
Lee.
Speaker 2 (38:39):
What's that, guys?
Speaker 9 (38:40):
I don't think we really talked about what we did
last night for the for the New Year's But would
you rather be stuck at home with no internet or
television New Year's Eve night?
Speaker 1 (38:47):
Or would you rather be stuck at Times Square all day?
Speaker 4 (38:50):
No no, at home with no internet.
Speaker 3 (38:53):
I would rather be just it's fine to be disconnected
from the entire world on New Year's Eve. In fact,
you're probably enjoying yourself. You are disconnected from the entire
world on New Year's even, stuck at home. That's completely
fine with me. Have either of you, of anybody within
the sound of my horse ever done the Time Square thing?
Speaker 2 (39:09):
It's awful, awful and I never would not go ahead, Lisa, No,
I never would.
Speaker 9 (39:15):
I mean, I have the privilege of having the opportunity
to go to the Rose Bowl.
Speaker 1 (39:18):
I wouldn't even do that. But yeah, definitely not Time
to Square.
Speaker 2 (39:22):
We played Dick Clok's Rock and New Year's Eve, but
we played the West Coast version of the West Coast
stage on it, so I didn't have to do the
actual ball drop in New York. Yeah, there's no way.
There's no way. I'm not wearing a diaper to anything.
I'm just not going to do it. So that I
do think though, that's gonna be my fantasy football punishment
next year for whoever finishes last in the league. It's
gonna have to go do the whole thing, superfan it like,
(39:44):
get there at noon, superpan it the diaper, all all
on video lead get us one more?
Speaker 9 (39:49):
Would you rather live this past year over again or
skip ahead ten years.
Speaker 3 (39:54):
Oh, I had a really good year. I wouldn't mind
reliving this past year over again. I don't know what's
happened in the future, but I know that I had
a great time in toy Set.
Speaker 2 (40:02):
On the podcast you know What. So it's interesting because
I wouldn't mind another shot in the year. I think
there's a lot you can do when you know what's coming.
But I actually the answer that's pretty clear. I want
to take as many edibles as possible and wake up
ten years from now and then just try and figure
it out. That to me sounds like the ultimate New
Year's adventure. Like I said, we will be back here
tomorrow morning for two pros and a cup of jokes.
(40:23):
Just keep through your radio on Fox Sports Radio all
night to get you there the meantime for Buck Rising,
I'm Jason Fitz Thanks so much for hanging out and
goes hang out with this again tomorrow
