Speaker 4 (00:19):
I'm sorry, I love the Sunball. I do sue me,
do whatever you want. I absolutely love it and it's
been a dandy. Not only aeron Torres do have a
great game on this New Year's Eve, NL Paso. The
field looks magnificent, full end zones painted. None of this
border grass stuff that the Rose Bull has been doing
for like the last decade and a half. Quit with

(00:41):
that crap. Just fill the whole end zone. Fill it
all with paint like the gold of Arizona State or
the blue of Duke and the Arizona States wearing. There's
sparky helmets. It's just a great looking game. I love
the Sunball aerin Torres. There's nothing you can do about it,
can I say?

Speaker 3 (00:58):
Also, this is the ecotomy of the non playoff Bowl
game in twenty twenty five. They just showed Steve Sarkis
and Isaac just gave the score. Texas up twenty four
to twenty against Michigan going into the fourth quarter. Biff
the Michigan interm og Yeah, yes, as he said, he's
gonna go smoke himself to death with cigars here at

(01:18):
the end of this game, Steve Sarkisian looked like he
was gonna vomit on the sideline, like if he just knows,
if I lose this game, it's eight months of crap
from my fan base until I think. I don't know
if they open with Ohio State next year, but I
know they play Ohio State early in the season. It's
just eight months of crap if I lose this game.
He looked sick to his stomach. Texas up twenty four

(01:39):
to twenty. So the thrill of victory in the agony defeat,
I guess, still exists in the UH Citrus Cheese Its Bowl.

Speaker 4 (01:45):
This show is sponsored by Draft Kings sports book and

two will be the matchup in two in Ohio State
and Texas in Austin. In that return trip, Isaac Low
and cron is here, as is Chris Perfep, as is

(02:07):
Jason Stewart. It is New Year's Eve. We say Happy
New Year to all of you. If you're listening around
the world and it's already the new year, Happy New Year.
I've got a date with the TV tonight. My wife
and son will be there with me watching Ohio State
taking on Miami. Aaron Torres, I assume your plans will
include some college oops and some buck guys and Hurricanes

(02:28):
as well. Is that true?

Speaker 3 (02:29):
I think most of the college hoops will be basically
done by the time we're allfair.

Speaker 4 (02:32):
Hey, they could have just went with it and so allee, Yeah,
he pulling up some tape, you know, grinding out Lipscomb
tape going into the new year.

Speaker 3 (02:41):
And then also, I will say, genuinely, I'm excited for
Ohio State Miami. I think it's gonna be a great game. No,
it is not a rematch from the two thousand and
two They just happen to play in the postseason. But
I am very excited for the game, and yes, I'll
put college hoops on a second TV just for you.

Speaker 4 (02:56):
Dem, Jason Stewart, will you be partying like it's two
thousand and two? What your plans?

Speaker 5 (03:00):
Yeah? The partying days are over. The majority of my
household is wrapped up in the Stranger Things phenomenon, and
the Stranger Things series finale airs at five pm Pacific,
So I will be on that train. And do you
know the ball dropping thing that happens this time of year?
Dick Clark started it, Yeah, and then seventy years later

(03:23):
Ryan Seacrest started doing it. Well, Dodger fans and I
have picked up our own tradition. It started a year
ago tonight actually, and it goes something like this. We
watched the ball drop ourselves, Chris, We watch our own
ball drop.

Speaker 1 (03:39):
A heating up gives settles under this port, but the
Jopson can Hernandez get to the back before the floor.

Speaker 2 (03:46):
He doubles on a routine play, Aaron Jigs just flubs
it in center field and the Dodgers gets a huge
break right there.

Speaker 5 (03:54):
Oh, and a tradition. I watch it on TikTok at
least six times, Aaron Judge dropping the ball his only
era of the year, Game five of the World Series,
Inning five, a ball drop allows the Dodgers to score
five runs. West's history. So here in Los Angeles our

(04:15):
own ball dropping all day until Ryan Seacrest officially does
it in six hours.

Speaker 4 (04:21):
Here there are moments in sports where there have been
other drops that would be apropos. I don't know if
they dropped the ball seven times in Philadelphia for Nelson
agelor but that could have also been a tradition that
was started.

Speaker 5 (04:32):
How did we not think of that for a segment? Now?
I feel the best ball dropping Mark Andrews would have
been topping on the West.

Speaker 4 (04:41):
I don't think of the Ravens Lee Evans had an
opportunity to beat the Patriots in an AFC championship game,
couldn't reel it in? That could be one.

Speaker 3 (04:50):
It's not quite the ball drop. But remember how the
national championship game in college basketball ended a manual sharp
pump faked lost the ball and couldn't touch it, otherwise
it would be a turnover and the clock ran out.
That was how the season ended.

Speaker 4 (05:04):
That's sort of a ball drop that I'll tell you
that ending has gotten lost in our year in reviews,
and this was a final four with we had all
number one seeds.

Speaker 3 (05:15):
We had all the It was funny because we were
on a few weeks ago in the I think in
the earlier time slot, and we're talking about most memorable
moments of twenty twenty five and I went with Shador Sanders,
you know, you know, talk about drop dropping the draft.
But the semi final, I think Duke was up twelve
with six minutes to go.

Speaker 4 (05:36):
Or something like that.

Speaker 3 (05:37):
Mm hmm, was still one of the craziest results ever.
Houston was up reasonably big late in the game, and
they lost in that manner. But the semi final, if
you remember it was it was pre you know, set
in Stone Cooper. Flag's gonna play for a national championship
and it's gonna be this huge thing, and it was.
And I was also sitting right behind the Houston fans,

(06:00):
and I just vividly remember more the semi final of
just when the when everything goes final, like hats are
being thrown in the air, and it was just this
unbelievable celebration. Only for two nights later, Like I said,
Emmanuel Sharp, pump fakes loses the ball, can't touch it.
And that's how the game ends.

Speaker 4 (06:17):
So Chris brought up when we did we did controversial calls.
You brought up the Lions Cowboys wild card game and
the flag that was lifted against Dallas on the pass interference,
right right, yeah, yeah, And so that playoff run by
the way, and I'll always remember it because that call
went against the Lions. Then the next week, the des

(06:37):
Bryant catch went against the Cowboys. Yeah, I went against
the Cowboys. Then the next week, the Packers had a
lead against the Seahawks, only to have Seattle come back
in the final three minutes and then end up winning
it in overtime. And then Seattle lost the Super Bowl
because Russell Wilson threw an interception at the goal on Now,
they're not all calls, but they were all enormous significant

(07:00):
turns for the game where different outcomes could have happened
in that playoff run. I only bring that up because
of what Aaron Torres talked about. Houston blows a lead
against Florida. Duke blew a lead against Houston. Texas Tech
blew a lead against Florida in their regional final game.
The Arkansaw Texas Tech game prior in the Sweet sixteen

(07:20):
that I cannot stop talking about because of the survivor pools.
They blew a lead in that one. Like there was
just it was each round there was something that forgat happened.

Speaker 3 (07:28):
Yukon, the two time defending champions, absolutely had Florida on
the ropes in the round of thirty two. It was
like disasters here for Yukon and they were another one.
I think with like six minutes to go they were
up six or something like that, and it was.

Speaker 4 (07:45):
It was a crazy tournament Florida.

Speaker 3 (07:47):
Basically every game had a huge comeback, including Texas Tech, who,
of course before that beat Arkansas the round of US
Sweet sears.

Speaker 4 (07:55):
Good memories, fun time. Tournament's gonna be just around the
corner before you know it. But what is just around
the corner? We gave team of the National Football League
season Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers are home to
the Baltimore Ravens as they play for the AFC North
Crown as they play for the fourth seed in the
playoffs in the AFC Playoff picture and they play to
not go home. There also could be some job statuses

(08:18):
on the line. There's also a lot more on the
line as well. I think when it comes to the
Steelers quarterback. This was Mike Tomlin asked about if he
thought that this could be Aaron Rodgers' last game.

Speaker 6 (08:30):
I don't know that I've taken time to ponder that.
I'm just committed to making sure that it's not. He's
certainly been an awesome contributor to our efforts, and not
only from a talent perspective and an experienced perspective, but
just his professionalism, his relationship with the game, his love
for his teammates, and his willingness to help them grow

(08:51):
and get better and gain better understanding each and every
day has been has been cool to be a part of.

Speaker 4 (08:56):
I have not been the biggest Aaron Rodgers fan over
the last couple of years, but I think it has
been a rousing success for what he has done in Pittsburgh.
And it may end up being on the outside looking in.
It may end up being the team drops their final
two games and falls out of the playoff picture. But

(09:18):
I believe when you look at what has happened with
Aaron Rodgers over the last couple of weeks, in the
last couple of seasons, specifically the last couple of seasons,
it's been a lot better than it was than it
was in New York, and I have these moments and
I don't think Aaron Rodgers is ever going to be
the quarterback that he was. I don't think he has

(09:38):
been the quarterback that he was five years ago. But
it doesn't mean that he shouldn't come back. And I
think that this run that they're on, and I think
if they end up bowing out Aaron, it actually may
be an opportunity for Aaron Rodgers to not want to
end his career that way. I think the season has
been great. Maybe you'll have perspective away from the game,
but I think a lost by the Steelers could actually

(09:59):
make Aaron Rodgers to come back next year.

Speaker 3 (10:01):
Do you think he would be more likely to leave
if they were to make the playoffs, even if it
was a short run.

Speaker 4 (10:06):
Yes, Okay, I feel that there would be some sort
of accomplishment in doing that, because I also think that
he came back for himself sure, and that he wanted
to play, and him getting back to the playoffs would
be enough to do so. I don't think Pittsburgh's in
a window where they're going to go to the Super
Bowl within the next couple of years. Sure, I think
that his time there was good enough. I think that

(10:27):
he's had good enough moments, and it's not a toxic
building where you're going to have tons and tons of
sweeping changes. I don't think Mike Tomlin's getting fired if
the Steelers missed the playoffs. I just don't. I don't
think that's going to happen. If that happens, then no
doubt Aaron Rodgers is not coming back next year. But
I don't think that happens. And I think that if
they lose, Tomlin stays, then Rogers will have a reason

(10:48):
to stay next season.

Speaker 3 (10:49):
Yeah, I just think big picture, I think it's exactly
what you said is. I do think like it's always easy,
right with revisionist history to say certain things. But if
you had just said going into the season, you know,
ten and seven win the AFC North, Like like, just
say that ten and seven win the AFC North, you
would have said successful season. You just would have because

(11:12):
Lamar Jackson, obviously, Baltimore Ravens, Joe Burrow will see what
happens whatever. But so I I do think there is
something to that. I I genuinely feel more by the
way we got the Oh that's not Jesus. Those are
Tony the Tiger frosted flakes. We got the frosted flakes
bath in El Paso. There, so my apologies. I thought

(11:33):
they were.

Speaker 4 (11:35):
Victory.

Speaker 3 (11:36):
Yes, so I actually kind of think I don't know.
I don't see Aaron Rodgers as being the type of
guy that if he feels like he has something left
in the tank. I mean, I don't know. This whole
marriage situation is weird. We don't really know much about this,
you know, young lady.

Speaker 4 (11:53):
Whatever.

Speaker 3 (11:54):
I just bring it up because I could see him
coming back either way. I do think if you make
the play, you can leave on the high note of
I still know what I'm doing. I help Mike Tomlin
kind of, you know, to a degree, kind of you know,
you don't want to say rehab his image, but you know,
I mean, whatever successful season, I could see that. I

(12:15):
don't think losing this game necessarily definitively means that he's back,
but I would say overall it's probably a net positive
if they do make the playoffs.

Speaker 4 (12:22):
He's Aaron Torres. I'm dan Byer. Jason Stewart has always
had an interest in Aaron Rodgers in the twenty twenty
five campaign.

Speaker 5 (12:28):
I do. I'm a big fan, and I think that
what you laid out, Dan is the conventional thinking. And
if there's anyone who is going to spite conventional thinking,
it's him. So he probably hears what you said about that,
which makes sense, doesn't want to leave on a sour note,
and he would probably do it just to spite you.
And it would all be sad because dk Metcalf is

(12:53):
completely responsible for the end of this Steelers season. If
he does not make that decision to do that to
that fit, then the Steelers are probably resting guys this
week maybe, and now we're looking at possibly ending their
season and the Hall of Fame career of Aaron Rodgers.
It's just sad.

Speaker 4 (13:11):
Do you think that's what DK Metcalf's then legacy would
be not running down Buddha Baker in a game in
Arizona on Sunday night football?

Speaker 5 (13:19):
Oh yeah, oh yeah?

Speaker 4 (13:20):
It would be ending the career of Aaron Rodgers because
he wasn't there to get his three catches for twenty
four yards.

Speaker 5 (13:25):
That would be deserving if that was his legacy.

Speaker 4 (13:28):
Yes, I think that there's no doubt that DK Metcalf
would have been valuable against the Cleveland Browns, especially when
you only score six points. I think that this game
against the Ravens is completely wittable. Now Lamar Jackson was
back at practice. It was practicing today, So that's at
least a better sign for the Ravens and what his
availability is going to be. You're right about the unconventional

(13:51):
thing that Aaron Rodgers does. But does going through and
winning the AFC North provide motivation or does none of
that then just matter? If my point is conventional and
he's unconventional, is it just Rogers just deciding if he
wants to hang out with Mike Tomlin for another six months?
I mean, could that come down to it? Essentially?

Speaker 3 (14:13):
And I think the other variable with it, and I
mean to cut anybody off, but like, is exactly what
you said. I don't think there's a lot of internal
pressure in that building, right. So I think if it
was Hey, if it was basically the Green Bay situation,
if it was Hey, just so you know, we're taking
a quarterback first round. You can come back, you can
do whatever you want. But it's like, is anyone gonna

(14:33):
tell Mike Tomlin, you have to take a quarterback. Is
anyone else Conna, Is anyone gonna tell him you gotta
sign a young backup?

Speaker 4 (14:39):
You gotta know.

Speaker 3 (14:40):
So, I don't think that Mike Tomlin feels pressure to
make any sweeping changes regardless of what whether they win
or lose, and so in turn, I also don't think
it puts much pressure on Aaron Rodgers if he does
decide that he wants to come back, winner loses, and.

Speaker 4 (14:54):
The decision is solely on Rogers. Now we can say
that it's on the Steelers, but the Steelers have given
every ind that they want him back next year, and
if a change was made, then that's I guess Steeler
ownership saying that they don't want Rogers back next year
because there's no way Rogers comes back next year with
a new coaching staff, and if they were to have
a new general manager, that's just not going to happen.

(15:17):
I just don't see the Steelers who have stuck by
Mike Tomlin for so long in this era where I'm
getting so increasingly frustrated over what have you done for
me lately? And Aaron laid it out earlier when we're
talking about these the odds. It's drove me crazy to
see that Drake May's MVP odds got better because he

(15:37):
played well against the Jets. That's ridiculous. Just a couple
of weeks ago, the Bills kept him pretty much in
check and what was one of the biggest games. It's
not the biggest game at the time for the Patriots
in this season. So now, if the Patriot excuse me,
if the Steelers were to go back on everything that
they have been for for forever, basically with the Rooney

(15:58):
family and how they've treated coaches, respond to these two games.
Into Jason's point, then to respond when you have a
wide receiver who makes a boneheaded call to swipe out
a fan on the sidelines and gets a two game ban.
If that's then with all of those circumstances, you are
reasoning to get rid of Mike Tomlin because that's what's
happened in the final two weeks. That would be absurd.

(16:19):
So I don't think you're gonna see the last of
Aaron Rodgers. Jason disagrees in terms of the unconventional Aaron
Rodgers and his decision, but I think that he's got
at least enough there to give it a second thought
and have a good enough time with these guys, Jason.

Speaker 5 (16:35):
And I think you're alluding to like he also has
gas in the tank. And I think that Aaron Rodgers
might be the type that goes against your again conventional thing.
Remember Tom Brady when he came back for that last
year and it was awful. I don't think that gets
enough credit for being how gross it was, how he
was just getting hit around, and he was going through

(16:55):
a divorce and he looked like he had aged twenty years.
I think Aaron Rodgers maybe looks at something like that.
I think he would be the guy that would walk
away a year early than a year late. And because
he has impacted winning as recently as a couple of
weeks ago, like he's playing very well, and maybe you
know he probably does have gas in the tank. He
seems like a guy that would walk away knowing he

(17:17):
had that gas in the tank, as opposed to everybody
else who's done the opposite.

Speaker 4 (17:21):
Right, Oh, go ahead, eron No.

Speaker 3 (17:22):
I was just gonna say, really quickly, are you suppressed
how quiet it's been? Because I think, on the one hand,
you'd say, Mike Tomlin, he keeps everybody in check Antonio
blah blah blah. But I mean, you think about when
he was with the Jets and correct me if I'm wrong.
I don't think Aaron Rodgers does McAfee anymore. Like it
was like every week when Aaron Rodgers was with the Jets,
there was some headline, and I just I don't I

(17:47):
don't feel like it's like one of the ten biggest,
like biggest storylines in the NFL this year, Drake mayon
the whatever the Patriots, Ben Johnson, Michaeh Parsons when he
was out. It's like, I'm just I am genuinely shocked
at how quiet it has been with Aaron Rodgers and.

Speaker 4 (18:06):
Pittsburgh, I would say, and I would say this in
Rogers defense. Rogers kept things pretty quiet in Green Bay,
even though there were things rumbling at the end and
maybe him telling players, yeah, come get me or I'm
gonna be available at you know, the offseason, whatever the
deal is. But the Jets chaos was Jets chaos. Sure,
like Rogers ruptures his achilles, there's nothing he can really

(18:28):
do the home possibly come back and play if they
have a playoff. Maybe that was a bit dramatic. But
that wasn't the chaos that was in the building, Like
the Jets produced that on their own with their ownership
and and you know at the time with Sala being
fired early, that was none of his. So in his
defense there there wasn't any of that. But I also
think Mike Tomin probably said, hey man, we don't want

(18:48):
you to do McAfee, and to Jason's point about Rogers
being unconventioned all these probably like cool, man, you know,
you mind if I do it once or or whatever,
and then just went along with it because the respect
that he has for Mike Tomlin. Sure, no, it's fair.

He is Aaron Torres, I'm Dan Byer. Jason Stewart's here,
as is Chris Purfett and Isaac Lohenkron hanging out. Isaac
Lavin update for us in just a second. I do

(20:17):
have to say this. I don't know if I'm maybe
a little a little tired, but I told you guys
what I did this morning, right, So this is a
this is a unique sort of deal, but this happens
with it within the game of golf. There are golf
courses around the country that will open up tea times

(20:39):
for the twenty twenty six season. Sometimes around New Year's
now some places will do it maybe a year ago.
They'll say open t sheet, So if you want to
book your trip to our course, you can now do it.
Twenty twenty six tea times are open. People will try
to grab those, gobble those up. There's a course that
is gaining a lot of popularity in Nebraska. It's called

(21:01):
Landband and their t sheet last year filled out for
the twenty twenty five season in about fifty three minutes.
Erin unbelievable, so their entire every tea time that they
had for twenty twenty five was taken within fifty three minutes.
So this morning, at eight o'clock Central time, we're on

(21:22):
the West coast six o'clock Pacific, I set my alarm
for five point fifty and tried to get in to
grab a tea time at this course in Homer, Nebraska,
And after a few hiccups and a few loading screens
of waiting, I was able to break through. Isaac lowncron

(21:46):
is very excited. Don't worry, the ball's about to drop
in a different way. I didn't have something set up
in my account that I needed to and so the
clock was ticking because I only had the reservation for
a short amount of time, and as I hit submit
on the payment, my time had run out. I had

(22:09):
lost my tea time and it went into the ether.
You could log in right now aeron Torres, No dice.
There is no tea time set for twenty twenty six
right now that I could get at this golf course,
and so frustrating. There were some issues. I mean it
was bombarded, like there were screens that were popping up.
I had a loading screen. I can only imagine this

(22:30):
is what it is like for anyone who is a
Taylor Swift fan who is trying to get tickets to
her concert and having to deal with this. Because I
had to deal with it this morning and was unable
to be one of the lucky ones to grab a
tea time.

Speaker 5 (22:44):
Well really quick.

Speaker 3 (22:44):
First of all, doing some deep dive on this golf
course not far from Sioux City, in South Sioux City,
so that's good Iowa Nebraska border.

Speaker 5 (22:53):
So here's my question.

Speaker 3 (22:54):
You mentioned the Taylor Swift stuff, So Taylor Swift obviously
has resonated because she's incredibly talented. This that whatever My
question for you, why has this course trans like why
you know, and it's like, I think it's a good
actually New Year's Eve kind of hypothetical because you know
when we were young and you'd go out on New
Year's Eve. There's just some clubs that are restaurants or

(23:18):
whatever that seemed to resonate in a certain way that
others do not, and sometimes no one can fully explain it.
And so I'm curious as to what has this golf
course been able to do to kind of stand out
in a way that all of these others have none.

Speaker 4 (23:34):
The layout in the land from the images that I've seen,
I've not been on the grounds, I've only seen pictures,
have only seen flyovers is magnificent. There was also something
that is very simplistic about this. This game of golf
has just had an incredible boom over the last five
years since COVID. It really has taken off. Golf is

(23:54):
as healthier as a sport as it has ever been.
You want to talk about you want to talk about
live golf, that's a different story. But the game of
golf with the influencers, with the social media there there
is so much positivity around golf. It's never been in
a better spot and Nebraska is one of those places

(24:17):
aaron that just suits perfectly for setting up of golf.
There's a private golf course in Nebraska called Sandhills. It's
one of the top ten courses in the United States,
but it's a private club. This is a public course
put together by a couple of guys in small town, Nebraska.
If you want to kind of use that stereotype, but

(24:38):
that's what it is, and it's just very simple. The
greens fees are not outrageous like you could get at
some places. There's something very basic and it's one of
those it's one of those organic things if you will,
you know, sometimes it's gonna be too commercialized, and I
think that there are some places that are too commercialized

(25:01):
in golf. They try to stress that they're just natural
and it's it's the root of the game. But there
is something natural about this. There isn't there's not a
tennis court attached to it. It's not a swimming pool,
there's not another part three course, there's not three other
courses to play. There's just something about this and it

(25:21):
stands out and tea times gobbled up. I'd have to
say probably within an hour. I don't know what the
official time was, but I was in it. I was
so close and then time just ran out.

Speaker 3 (25:31):
Well, I will tell you you know, listen, I'm not
trying to throw Landman under the bus here, but I am.
On their Instagram page, they do have the one post
that says Tea Time's completely sold out. Went to the
post before for the scenic pictures and among the first
comments I've seen, Dan hellam no relation to Dan Byer.

(25:52):
All great except the tea time is complete crap timeouts.
Get to the end of your order and it won't process.
We go through this every year. Landman still refuses to
fix the process. Then Mark H two to zero zero three,
not to be confused with Mark H two two zero four,
he said, T time system is horrible.

Speaker 4 (26:14):
You probably won't.

Speaker 3 (26:15):
Fix it as you sell out minutes, regardless of issues
that people deal with.

Speaker 1 (26:19):
So you Fox Sports Radio had the best sports talk
lineup in the nation. Yet catch all of our shows

Speaker 5 (26:30):
You weren't the only one.

Speaker 4 (26:31):
I don't know. I thought it was maybe my error because,
as I said, so I had might be a D thing.
It could have been a Dan thing. Van Hellum is
not happy, but keep going. I ended up making an
account within the process because there wasn't the ability prior,
so I thought maybe that took up some time. But
I got my account in, got it filled out, got
it set up. I didn't have the card that needs

(26:52):
to be associated with the account and had to figure
that out, and so that's that's what ended up happening.
But can I ask you quick follow ups?

Speaker 3 (27:00):
One, what if you make a tea time and it
gets completely washed out. I mean, I assume they're pretty
loose with keeping the course open during the season, but
I mean I've been to Nebraska. There are you know,
I'm not being sarcastic, tornadoes, whatever what happens.

Speaker 4 (27:17):
I don't know what their severe weather policy is. I'll
just call it that because raincheck is is too broad.
But if it rains, you're probably playing the great thing
with these guys. If you walk eighteen, they buy your
first beer for you. Oh wow, yeah, free beer if
you could take a card as well. But I would
think that in severe weather, where there's dangerous conditions like lightning,

(27:41):
high winds, you'd be pulled from the course. I don't
know what they would do then, with your tea time.
I hadn't gotten that far, but it is always a
possibility when you're playing golf.

Speaker 3 (27:51):
Okay, So my second question was is there any strategy
as to when you try to make the reservation right?
So like, obviously you're not even gonna try Opening day,
you probably won't try whatever the best season is, do
you try the pseudo? You know, as we get to
the end of the seaon what is the strategy?

Speaker 4 (28:10):
So I think I think the window they had was
like May sixteenth through October first, So that's that's the
window of dates that you had. I thought Labor Day
is tough, like people will people will play golf trips,
They'll say, I have Labor Day, I'll take the rest
of the week off. So I stayed away from that.
I actually tried to do maybe like a week prior
to Labor Day, a week after Labor Day, where you
would maybe have have trips that people wouldn't take, or

(28:33):
they would have been on vacation and already used their vacation.
I also did try to get early morning tea times
because in a place like Nebraska, one of the one
of the sneaky things is is if you want to
try to avoid the wind. The best you can tee
off early in the morning. Wind will pick up throughout
the day. So if a' tee off in the afternoon,
you may have to deal with the winds all the
way through the round. Usually in the morning it's calm.

(28:55):
You know, in one of the places that I frequently go, well,
tee off at seven am on U up, everything is good.
Wind may pick up by around noon, but by that
point you're walking off the eighteenth Green. So those are
some of the some of the tricks. I also didn't
look at weekends. I only looked at weekdays because I
figured the busy part maybe weekend trips people doing those

(29:16):
sort of trips. That's why I looked at the weekdays.
Jason Stewart, it just.

Speaker 5 (29:19):
Made me think about like what people you have no idea,
what people prioritize is something they want to go out
of the way for or wait for, or get into
a lottery for. Did you know that, like the hiking
mountain climbing world has this like phenomenon where you need
to win a lottery, say to go to Mount Everest. Okay,
you need to win a lottery to risk your life

(29:42):
to and to pay five figures to go to some
at everest, right, and people will wait years and years
to see if they win a lottery. So it's always
kind of funny to me to tap into, like what
are certain people willing to do to do one thing
ye or what have you?

Speaker 4 (30:01):
Yeah, And I this was also like there are other places,
as I mentioned, there are other places in Nebraska that
you can play, but like this is the one. So
if you get your tea time, you can build your
tea time around this trip. And I'm sure if there
was a bunch of guys. I've got a couple of
guys that I golf with, we didn't settle on something.
I'm doing something may with a good buddy of mine
in Michigan. I was just going to try to get

(30:23):
like a late summer early fall in Nebraska and then
just work from there and try to try to work
it out. But there are things that you have to
set up, but this would have been the first one
that you probably set up, and then you set all
your other rounds around what this round is going to be.
So it's just a yeah, different world. As you said,
the hiking community, I know that you were surprised that
there was even such a thing in the world of golf.

(30:45):
But yeah, there was this morning, and I'll tell you
a lot of courses that you may want to look at.
Tea Times will go live tomorrow morning on January, you know,
January first, So if you want to check it out,
I encourage you to do well.

Speaker 3 (30:57):
I've heard of like, you know, Pebble Beach or a
place like that, you know, Augusta National. I don't even
think people can get on. I had just never heard
of this course. And you know, it's not like it's
a you know, a course that the US Open was
just at two years ago.

Speaker 4 (31:13):
So that's fine.

Speaker 3 (31:15):
Like I said, I I find anything that's out of
my realm of knowledge to be kind of interesting, and
golf is not my area of expertise, and so I
find it interesting. To Jay Stew's point about what people
are willing to do for the things that they.

Speaker 4 (31:28):
Love, Sesame Street and helped raise all of us. Now
it's our turn donate this holiday season at Sesame dot
org because the world needs Sesame and Sesame needs you.
Let's go over to the news desk with Isaac Lohan Kron.
Any golf questions from you, Isaac that.

Speaker 2 (31:41):
Are I actually have a couple all right. First of all,
because this is a public course, are there any other
public courses in the United States that have this sort
of demand? That's kind of my vibe is yeah, because
Pebble Beach and Augusta are not public courses.

Speaker 4 (31:59):
Yeah, there are resorts. Pebble Beach is public, it's just
super expensive, and it's because of the stay and everything
that comes with it. It's tougher to get on. You're
not just gonna walk up and say, yeah, I can
I get a two somehow today. It's just usually not
gonna happen. But well, go ahead.

Speaker 3 (32:14):
No, I was gonna say, this feels like one of
those like random Instagram influencer things where it's like there's
a waterfall that you have to hike, you know, eight
miles into the Hawaiian rainforest or whatever. But like once
it becomes a thing, it's a thing. And that's what
this feels like to me, which is cool. I'm not
that didn't I don't want to sound negative influence influencer thing.

Speaker 4 (32:35):
It's just that's the vibe that I'm getting. It was, Yeah,
it's a lot of people. There's there's other places, Isaac
that will book up that are you know, very popular.
But they're also just different because they have five courses
maybe on site and so those things. So those even
tea times happened earlier. This is a bit of a rarity.

Speaker 2 (32:56):
Yes, is there anyone you can kind of whatever the
golf for some equivalent of sliding into DMS is who
actually got a tea time and say, hey, Dan Byron, No, I.

Speaker 5 (33:08):
Don't think So what about Matt Rule, He's.

Speaker 4 (33:10):
A Nebraska I would I would cash that favor in
on maybe another course for you know, Matt Rules got
connections in Nebraska and Philadelphia, a bunch of cool courses there.
The point is is that's not what this course is about.
Like you know, there again about they don't want anybody
reselling the tea times, so I don't think they want
to play favorites. And there's something there's a charm to it.

(33:31):
So while I didn't get in, I wasn't mad. I
actually just was glad that I went through the process
and unfortunately just didn't come out.

Speaker 2 (33:39):
With one okay, final thing in the future. My wife
is a big fan of this guy, Harry Styles. Yes,
so when he came to town with his tour She
literally set up a command center in our house.

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
