Two to four on the West, five to seven on

(00:48):
the East. I'm Steve Covino, That is Rich Davis, Danny
g Super producing, Joel is here, Nick Cope is here
and is good. The new Bad is Ben the new Good?
Am I just quoting for Dirst? When the good comes
to bad, the bad comes to good.

Speaker 3 (01:06):
I'm gonna live my.

Speaker 2 (01:06):
Life as I should. Yeah, wait, it's Reddirst in the room.
Oh k st is bad? Is being bad almost the
same as being good in twenty twenty four, I'll explain,
but I just want to let people know we are
going to give away some prizes this hour with my
home Showtime Trivia.

Speaker 3 (01:25):
We'll talk some wide receivers in the NFL.

Speaker 2 (01:27):
But this question is post only because when you look
back at the Olympic Games, now that things are over
and Tom Cruise jumped off of stadium in London and
we saw the Chili Peppers and Billie Eilish and Snoop Dogg,
and we're ready to go LA in four years from now.
No boxing. I'm hearing no break dancing in twenty twenty eight.

Speaker 4 (01:49):
Damn there is gonna be squashed, though, so don't work squash.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
I do have to ask when you think about what
was memorable other than yeah, like Katie Ledecki or Steph Curry.

Speaker 3 (02:04):
That's because that's the problem with the country.

Speaker 2 (02:07):
You know what they know because what you speak of
is only in our stupid country. And I say that respectfully.
I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.

Speaker 3 (02:14):
Let me make that.

Speaker 2 (02:15):
Clear, because I'm proud to be an American break out
the league. I don't want people to be like, oh yeah, well,
why don't you go somewhere else if you.

Speaker 5 (02:24):
Don't like it.

Speaker 2 (02:25):
That's not what I'm saying. I'm saying we reward stupid things.
Not everybody's like that, not everybody should be like that.
But I do think people like moonwalking.

Speaker 3 (02:36):
Hey, get out of here walking. That's just a fact.
That's a fact.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
It is good to be bad, But that doesn't mean
it's a positive. Like do you want to be known
as hawk tour boy?

Speaker 5 (02:49):
I don't.

Speaker 3 (02:52):
Now you are correct.

Speaker 2 (02:55):
There is a reward system in the United States, and
I don't think it's just here, but it's a lot
here where you're right, the ridiculous behavior or you know,
the fullest stuff out there gets rewarded.

Speaker 3 (03:09):
Example, So you know, there's truth to what I'm saying.

Speaker 2 (03:11):
Right, of course, there's talk to a girl that's you know,
her fifteen minutes are about up, but she made probably
a million dollars, i'd imagine. But other countries reward positive things.
That's what goes viral in other countries. This our algorithms
work in a way for real where dumb things get

(03:32):
highlighted and we're just circulating all this brainless stuff and
that becomes the biggest deal in our brains and in
our minds, and that's what we gravitate toward thanks to
social media. And I know where you're going with this,
because it's just the culture we live in, not only
in social media.

Speaker 3 (03:48):
It's just that we love the drama and if it bleeds,
it leads.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
And it goes back, you know, years, not just recent stuff,
but more so recent stuff.

Speaker 3 (03:57):
We've seen it all week with the Olympics. Let me
tie in a baseball story.

Speaker 2 (04:01):
You and I had discussed how Jim Joyce has come
out saying he wishes that Major League Baseball would overturn
the Galaraga. He says, he's all for it, perfect game.
And that came up because I believe it was an
E sixty piece where Mammoth University was studying like injustices

(04:25):
in law, and the professor brought up the story of
look at this injustice and they were like, well, if
we could overturn certain stories of crime, why can't we
overturn this story.

Speaker 3 (04:36):
This is an injustice. This is a crime.

Speaker 2 (04:38):
So they wrote a letter to the commissioner and they're
doing their best to try to have Baseball just you know,
review it and maybe he'd possibly overturn it. It was
an interesting piece because you're right, if cases in court
could be overturned, if the last play of a very
clear perfect game is right there.

Speaker 3 (04:58):
Yeah, and it doesn't change the yeah of anything other
than the record.

Speaker 2 (05:01):
It was the last play. You could argue that of
the next guy, what do you do with that? That's
an exception accounts whatever. But that perfect game or lack thereof,
is more popular than any real perfect game.

Speaker 3 (05:18):
And that was the silver lining to that story.

Speaker 2 (05:20):
Sim Larning, is that Galaraga and Jim Joyce go down
in history. You're if I said kiving up, more people
remember that then. You know, had it been a perfect
game exactly, you don't think he would have still wanted
that perfect game without the But it's like Reggie Bush
when they took away his heisman. It just reinforced in
our brains watching him flip into the end zone for

(05:40):
USC like, oh yeah, that's right, Reggie Bush.

Speaker 3 (05:42):
It becomes controversial.

Speaker 1 (05:44):
You know.

Speaker 2 (05:44):
The great Dan Patrick, who were in for was featured
in the Pete Rose documentary where he talks about hadn't
there been this controversy about Pete Rose, you know, he'd
be in the Hall of Fame and that'd be it.
Would he would he be another Hall of Famer like
a Johnny Benchra. Yeah, because of this. He is a

(06:04):
legend that we talk about every year come Hall of
Fame time, and there's always this debate, and there's always
this story of Pete Rose. So the legend may be
greater as a result of this controversy. So that's what
Rich is saying, is it is bad sometimes good. I
think sometimes you are going to get more success, money, fame,

(06:25):
and you may say, well, those aren't the important things.
But when you look back at the Olympic Games, it
just shows you that everything's backwards. Man, dude, I said it.
Steph Curry draining threes Team USA, Katie Ledecki, Simone Biles.
Of course you're going to talk about the elites, but
in some of the categories where what the hell do

(06:46):
you know about Paul Vaulting. I'll tell you what I
know about Paul Vaulting, the funny dude who's junk got
caught in the bar, who became a famous video clip,
a meme and everything, and that guy's probably cashing in.

Speaker 3 (06:56):
He's me your wallpaper.

Speaker 2 (06:57):
That guy should be doing commercial sort like blue choosing
and all these things. Cheese girl, the good looking Italian
gymnast who was posing with wheels of parmesan, the Turkish
shooter who wasn't wearing any gear.

Speaker 3 (07:12):
We love stupid things, by the way.

Speaker 2 (07:15):
The diver should be prospering, right, The French diver who
looked like he was a little too excited to be
wearing a speedo. These are the things that are more memorable,
That are more memorable. Jordan Childs, did you mention that
one the wrap?

Speaker 3 (07:29):
Not the wrap?

Speaker 2 (07:29):
The break dancing woman, ray Gun. I mean you would
have think she owned the Olympics. Please, Rachel four ray Gun,
ray dude, the most, the most memorable. And it's sad
to say this. I don't say this in any sort
of like enjoyment. It was the the intro, the controversial introduction.

Speaker 3 (07:49):
What was going on there?

Speaker 5 (07:51):
All right?

Speaker 3 (07:51):
That became a big story. Then it was Snoop Dog
holding a huge blunt. Oh wait, no, that's the torch.

Speaker 2 (07:57):
That's just the torch, you know, the breakdancer, the controversial,
controversial woman's boxer.

Speaker 3 (08:04):
At one point it was the big story.

Speaker 2 (08:06):
We love the drama, and you know, shows like ours
we lean into that too, So we're not innocent here.

Speaker 3 (08:11):
I get that, Okay, I am intrigued by those stories.

Speaker 2 (08:14):
And you know, there are people and I accept it
that will mock me for a variety of reasons. But
what in particular is that you're just very mockable, and
I accept it.

Speaker 3 (08:25):
I love it. Hey mock me all day at Rich Davis.

Speaker 2 (08:27):
I while I enjoy watching a game, a sports documentary,
all the stuff you enjoy, you know what I enjoyed
just as much a good episode of like Love Is Blind,
or The Bachelorette, or some drama, some nonsense, some you know,
too hot to handle, hot twenty somethings on a beach

(08:48):
that can't keep their clothes on. We all love dumb
trash mixed in with the quality. I just think this
is because we're overstimulated as a culture, and social media
has our attention spans really short. Where we want we
want something crazy and sallacious. And it's like you, when
I talk about fights and boxing, if it's not a
heavyweight knockout or some some bloody bludgeony you know battle,

(09:12):
you're not interested.

Speaker 3 (09:12):
I talked about the fight of the Year.

Speaker 2 (09:14):
This past weekend, Virgil Ortiz became the new champion at
one fifty four. I was like, it's the fight of
the year. Man, it was a mess. Was your fourth
fight of the year?

Speaker 3 (09:24):
Boys? The boy that christ fight of it?

Speaker 2 (09:27):
And I'm talking to sweet one, I'm talking sweet Signs
and oh man, what a battle. But because it's not heavyweights,
it's not some bludgeony, bloody mess, you know, rich and
most people are are disinterested and they don't care. Tell
me when it's canlo tell me? Because just tell me
when it's Terrence Crawford or Ryan Garcia or Tyson fury
Usik or Jake Paulton, Mike Tyson. Don't tell me about

(09:48):
you know two dudes. I don't know because you don't want.
You don't Who won the gold medal for break dancing?

Speaker 3 (09:54):
I don't know, but you know who was awesome? Ray Gun?

Speaker 2 (09:56):
No.

Speaker 3 (09:56):
But see that's what I mean.

Speaker 2 (09:57):
We're losing the like, the the appreciation for what really matters,
and instead we're like, yeah, ray Gun, so answer yourself
this question and then we can move on. Because I
do want to talk football. And there's a lebron James
thought I had. It's there's a story. It's like a
day old, but I had time to think about it.
And I'm a pretty because I'm not a Lebron hater.

(10:17):
In fact, I'm sort of team Lebron. But I hate
on something he did. And I'll explain. Okay, but let
me ask you this. I know you're a guy that's
all about pride, and you're like.

Speaker 3 (10:26):
That's not a bad thing.

Speaker 2 (10:28):
Pride isn't a bad I'm just when you say him
all about pride, it's like saying Coveno, what a weird guy.
He's all about values and standards. That's That's just what
you're saying when you say.

Speaker 5 (10:39):
That, I want to choke you.

Speaker 2 (10:41):
Kvino's a guy that has standards, but he says that
about me, like it's a bad thing.

Speaker 3 (10:45):
This guy so prideful, Like what's bad about that?

Speaker 2 (10:48):
I'm because sometimes your ego is not your ego and
pride could be your enemy. I get that, dude, But
it's also, you know, set of values you live by,
certain standards, is having expectations, you know, and I think
that these are things we need to hold on to.

Speaker 4 (11:03):
That we don't become the Little League batting champion without
a little.

Speaker 2 (11:06):
Press What happened to Covino?

Speaker 1 (11:11):
Man?

Speaker 2 (11:11):
He has that integrity stuff. He's a little old school, like,
what's wrong with that? The answer this question and will
will act like your favorite slugger and move on.

Speaker 5 (11:22):
Sure.

Speaker 3 (11:24):
Would you rather be the gold medalist in pule vaulting?

Speaker 5 (11:28):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (11:29):
Or be the guy who's junk got caught on the
pole vaulting thing and everyone knows.

Speaker 5 (11:33):
Him and the future on the Bachelor, he's going to
be on.

Speaker 2 (11:36):
The past in the future and as a ton when
you dedicate your life as Jerry Seinfeld, you start training
for the Olympics when you're a fetus, you know, when
you trained your whole life for that moment. I don't
think you're junk matters. I think you want that gold
medal and you want to be known for being a winner, and.

Speaker 3 (11:54):
That's what you're recognized as one of.

Speaker 2 (11:55):
The do you think Australian breakdanswer, ray Gun? I get
where you're going. I'm trying to take the righteous route here.
I get it, Like, wow, it's sort of like he
he actually won when he didn't win, you know, I
get all that that matters if you want a bronze
medal in breakdancing, yeah, I don't think that has the
value of being ray Gun, who will be soofed on

(12:16):
SNL who will have memes and clips forever, and she
goes down in the history books.

Speaker 3 (12:22):
As for embarrassing herself.

Speaker 5 (12:24):
What's she really gonna get out of this? Though?

Speaker 3 (12:26):
Rich embarrassment honestly? And is it? When's the uh?

Speaker 2 (12:31):
I think they say breakdancing again continues in Australia. So
what she's she's gonna be the face of it again
when it when it comes back? I don't know about that.
So you know, this goes with a theory we've been
sharing for a long time. It seems like more than ever,
with all the stories we mentioned in the Olympics and
everything else, bad is the new good. It's better to
be bad than good because that's where we lean and

(12:54):
that's where our interests lie. We've been saying it. We
saw it nerd as the new cool. We live in
the upside down. Let me adjust bed. Here's what I'll say.
Bed is better than decent. Bed will never be better than
great great. I think coolness prevails. I think greatness prevails.
Greatness prevails. But if you said, hey, if you can't

(13:17):
be great, do you rather be mediocre and forgettable or
do you rather have.

Speaker 3 (13:22):
A moment where like something weird or bad happens.

Speaker 2 (13:25):
If you told me Olympic gold or your junk gets
caught on the pule vault, I'm going to Olympic gold.
But if you told me fourth place, or you've got
a bronze medal, or you're a pole vaulting junk guy.

Speaker 3 (13:37):
I think I'd rather be pull vaulting junk guy.

Speaker 2 (13:40):
All right, Well, your thoughts, your feedback is appreciated at
Covino and Rich. Again, this all started with nerd being
the new cool. Everything flipped years ago, and now we're
seeing it more than ever with what leads in the
highlights and in the stories with the Olympics and everything else.

Speaker 3 (14:00):
So it's good to be bad now.

Speaker 2 (14:02):
There's something that Lebron James did and I know this
is you know we're talking two days ago now, but
I had time to think about it. And much like
a lot of things, if you see a different camera
angle or you get more of maybe a close up
look at something, whether it's a play or whether it's
something an athlete said or did.

Speaker 3 (14:22):
Your opinion might change.

Speaker 2 (14:23):
Right, There's a video that I saw from a distance,
and then once I saw the more upclose, different angle
video of it.

Speaker 3 (14:32):
Angles of the d angles could change everything.

Speaker 2 (14:35):
It's like a three point shot, like it looks like
he oh man, he's on the line. Yeah, hold on,
hold your your pants. So they give you another angle
and he's not. Sometimes an angle of a play or
an angle of a scenario will be like, oh, now
it's a little more insightful. Lebron James is getting out
of a car, getting out of a car service too.

Speaker 3 (14:59):
He doesn't get out of a car.

Speaker 2 (15:00):
He floats out of a car like Sebastian Maniscalco, one
of our favorite comedians who doesn't hit us back anymore. Yeah,
because he's big time. He said in one of his specials.
One of the most underrated feelings ever is when you
when you park your car in valet and you float
out of the car.

Speaker 3 (15:20):
It's like you float right out your keys.

Speaker 2 (15:23):
You feel important for like one minute your keys. Yes,
that's a great feeling. That's Lebron. That's how Lebron gets out.

Speaker 5 (15:29):
Of a car.

Speaker 2 (15:29):
So Lebron floats out of a car, floats out on
his way to on his way to a post gold
medal celebration, and some kid jumps right at Lebron the
minute he gets out of the car, and my first
instinct was, yeah, I mean, got to give some people space.

(15:50):
But the more I thought about it and looked at it,
just take a listen to the tone in Lebron's voice.

Speaker 3 (15:56):
It might be a little tricky to here, but take
a listen. Don't do that.

Speaker 2 (16:08):
Stop stop, stop, don't do that. Don't do that just
one more time.

Speaker 1 (16:12):
Joe, I don't do that.

Speaker 3 (16:18):
Reprehending.

Speaker 2 (16:23):
You know who else got some flak for this reason.
He wasn't it Travis Scott who got a little flak
where some kid, you know, we tried to take selfie
and he's sort of like knocked his hand out of
the way and caught a lot of backlash for that too.

Speaker 3 (16:35):
Like, Yo, man, that's those are your fans.

Speaker 2 (16:37):
Dude, These are the kid These are the people that
make you and I think superstars. Look, they live a
life we'll never understand. So you got to keep that
in mind too. And that's that's what I got to
keep it in some perspective. The fans are what make
you and and when it comes to kids, that's different. Yeah,
if it was some paparazzi guy trying to get an
autograph for one of these autographed stalkers that you know,

(16:59):
so on this helmet, so on this jersey, send this basketball.
Those people are paying the ass. This is like a
look like a preteen teenage kid that was excited. He
had his phone out, like, yo, it's Lebron James. This
is a little French kid that is thinking, Yo, what's
the chances that Lebron James and all these superstars are
where I live?

Speaker 3 (17:18):
The Olympics? And Lebron shuts his kid down.

Speaker 2 (17:22):
And at first I'm like, yo, you got to give
celebrities and athletes their space. And then then I changed
my mind because I'm like, no, no, no, Lebron James
is one of the most elite athlete celebrities.

Speaker 3 (17:36):
On planet Earth. He knows every camera on him.

Speaker 2 (17:39):
He needs to be better in that moment. Now, I
know everyone slips up, so I'm not gonna be too
hard on him. But I don't care if this kid
was a little pain in the butt. I don't care
if this kid was you know, kid caught him off guard,
like Lebron. Like the teenagers, man, because I look at
it this way, It's like, let's say you had a
teenager come to your house for Halloween, trick or tree.

(18:03):
You know what, there's some people are like, you're a teenager,
how old are you? Who cares how old that kid is.
They're trying to have fun and and they're being a kid.
Still embrace it like this is a teenage kid. He's
excited like a little kid because it's Lebron, superstarling. Lebron
could bring out the little kid to anybody.

Speaker 3 (18:22):
So that's it.

Speaker 2 (18:23):
That's a real deflating feeling. And look, I'm not trying
to harp on the you know that's messed up. Trained
Lebron I'm sure is signing autographs all day long. We've
seen so many great highlights with him with kids. But
you can't say it's not a bad look.

Speaker 3 (18:37):
You know what change? You know what changed my mind?

Speaker 2 (18:40):
Could you know, Danny j what after he disses this
kid as he's walking into the restaurant, he starts doing
like a little dance like he's all in a great
mood because they just want so he was not if
he was in a sour mood or something bad happened.
Like you ever see Ben Affleck try to leave his
house in the pop Razzi, He just bothered the hell
out of him. This was This was a kid that
caught Lebron off guard. And I know when no one's

(19:01):
gonna be one hundred percent on all the time. But
you had like you're like in Paris for one last
day you just completed a gold medal run. Yeah, I
just thought it was a weak ass love dude, for
a guy that I defend all the time. I am
a Lebron defender. But what did you say about Jaron
Duran yesterday who again suspended for an anti gay slur?

(19:22):
Oh but I said yesterday, Yeah, how do you not
have the wherewithal to well not be using that language anyway,
but especially whin there's microphones and cameras everywhere. Right, you're
a professional baseball better you gotta know better than that.
When you're Lebron James and you live under a microscope,
you don't know better than that. And I get I
saw what is he doing when there's non cameras around?

(19:44):
You know, there's always cameras. That's the point.

Speaker 4 (19:47):
One of the headlines I saw used the word surprising,
and it is because Lebron's usually so good with kids,
for sure, Dude, that's a fantasm. I was wondering, did
this I don't know what time this was. Was it
one in the morning. There are obviously no other kids around.
It's adults out at night going into the night club there.
So maybe that kid caught him off guard because there

(20:07):
were kids around at that time.

Speaker 5 (20:08):
I don't know. That's the only stretch of the imagination.

Speaker 2 (20:11):
And that's why I look, it's a difficult conversation because
you gotta give Lebron some grace, as they say, because
he is great with kids. But you also got to
be real about the moment, right, we're gonna break down
the moment.

Speaker 3 (20:21):
That's how it looks.

Speaker 2 (20:22):
Yeah, and again I'm usually the guy saying, you know,
everyone hates Lebron for no reason.

Speaker 3 (20:27):
This was a moment where I'm like, come on, Lebron.

Speaker 2 (20:30):
For the record, we're usually uh Lebron defenders. Yeah, no
one's hating on Lebron. But if you want to call
it how it looked, it was a bad look for him,
especially after winning.

Speaker 3 (20:39):
And it's just an excited kid. Have you ever heard
the jut appatitl Steve Martin story. No, but I can't
wait to hear it.

Speaker 2 (20:46):
You know what if it has to do with this
Lebron thing and I'll tell you about it next. And
speaking of jut Appatow, there's a comedy that starts on
that not one of his, but something I think we
should all be watching. I think it starts tomorrow. So
got something you definitely want to watch? We'll talk some NFL.
That's all coming up. Covino rich In for the Great

Speaker 4 (27:03):
Yeah, here are the rules for Showtime Mahomes NFL Trivia.
The first contestant with two correct answers is going to
be the champ. If there's a tie, we have a
tie breaker question. Your name is your buzzer, but you
do have to wait until all three possible answers are read.
If there's two wrong answers in a row, we move
on to the next question.

Speaker 3 (27:20):
Are you ready? Yeah, let's get it out.

Speaker 7 (27:22):

Way's the drive A ninety eight yards? B eighty nine

Speaker 5 (27:39):

Speaker 7 (27:43):
I was just say B eighty nine No, you be wrong.

Speaker 5 (27:47):
Caleb, Yeah, Caleb, you're up next.

Speaker 4 (27:51):
See you said no, that's ninety three right.

Speaker 5 (27:56):
You're all losers on that one.

Speaker 3 (27:57):
No A ninety eight ninety eight? I wrote, so I
knew was ninety started at the two yard line?

Speaker 7 (28:02):
Always the drive ninety eight yards?

Speaker 1 (28:04):
All right? Round two?

Speaker 7 (28:06):
Who is the only NFL player in history to win
a Super Bowl?

Speaker 3 (28:09):
MVP?

Speaker 7 (28:09):
On the losing team A. Devin Hester of the Bears. B.
Chuck Hallie of the Cowboys, or C. Lenn Dawson of
the Chiefs. I think Nick got in there, Hollway Cowboys.

Speaker 5 (28:23):
Yes, Nick on board. Bam ma'am.

Speaker 4 (28:28):
All right, we move on to round three as Nick
is the only one on the board so far.

Speaker 7 (28:32):
All right, what's up? Fox Sports Radio Nation, Patrick mahomes here?

Speaker 1 (28:36):
Which of these time?

Speaker 3 (28:38):
Which of these what's where I'm here?

Speaker 7 (28:42):
Which of these NFL players had been on the cover
of Madden twice? A Barry Sanders, B Michael Vick or C.
Drew Brees. Rich Rich Barry Sanders? Yes, Wowich gets on
the board. Baboom, all right, Nick Rich.

Speaker 5 (29:02):
Here battling this out? Is we here to round four?

Speaker 7 (29:05):
Which NFL draft class has no quarterbacks selected in the
first round?

Speaker 5 (29:10):
Does it go?

Speaker 7 (29:10):
Let's go A nineteen ninety B nineteen seventy four or C.
Nineteen seventy This is tough, Rich again? Which NFL draft
class had no quarterbacks?

Speaker 5 (29:24):
Trying to close things out here?

Speaker 2 (29:26):
Oh, fifty years ago in nineteen seventy.

Speaker 7 (29:29):
Four, Yes, boy, damn Danny White went in the third
round to the Cowboy.

Speaker 4 (29:36):
Yeah, ninety was Jeff George nineteen seventy was Steeler legend.

Speaker 5 (29:41):
Take a guess.

Speaker 2 (29:43):
Urbutary Bradshaw, I was gonna say some reason Jeff George
nineteen ninety actually was in my head.

Speaker 5 (29:49):
Look at that.

Speaker 4 (29:50):
Rich adds to his win total twenty two time winner. Now,
congratulations and Kleb, thank you for playing an Idaho. Little
too slow on the draw there, buzzing in, but we
appreciate you playing the game.

Speaker 7 (30:03):
Hey, Caleb, enjoy your Dutch bros. Say what's up to
the dude at touch Bros? Later, Bud later, Brud, thank you. Hey, guys,
I got my breakfast breed on the hallway.

Speaker 3 (30:13):
I gotta go leader Patrick.

Speaker 1 (30:14):
All right later, guys.

Speaker 7 (30:15):
Later, Guy, I'll see you next week.

Speaker 3 (30:16):
Bye Yo, Commino and Rich rule later, guys. Perfect.

Speaker 2 (30:19):
Thank you Patrick Mahomes. That was the most hyped up
I've seen Patrick Mahomes in a long time. I think
he was just really excited to be bad. You know
what you always did the back It's weird, yeah, but
he knocked me over running out into the hallway.

Speaker 3 (30:31):
Hey, that was pretty cool. Cushing for you. Danny.

Speaker 2 (30:34):
Off the top of my head, I'm I'm thinking what
year was your Raiders Todd Marinovich experiment.

Speaker 5 (30:43):
I was there. I was there at the LA Coliseum.

Speaker 3 (30:47):
Was that ninety two?

Speaker 5 (30:50):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (30:50):
Ninety I'll look it up, can get on it. What
you was, Todd Marinovic? You know, Danny g Were you
wearing your cavalichies? I wear what were you wearing?

Speaker 4 (31:02):
I had a thin silver Raider hoodie on it. I'll
never forget. This guy right in the front of the
coliseum had this big sign and it said, Todd, you
are the future.

Speaker 3 (31:11):
I want to say, were wearing your Raiders? Uh? Starter jacket?
Is my guess? Ninety two? Close? What do we got, Nickope?
Ninety one?

Speaker 5 (31:19):
Draft?

Speaker 3 (31:19):
Right?

Speaker 2 (31:21):
Hey, Rich, I have a fun fact for you. Do
you know who they credit popularizing the starter jacket?

Speaker 1 (31:29):
No?

Speaker 2 (31:29):
No, it was an athlete, like a player. Like how
it became a thing. I saw it on TikTok, so
it has to be true. I do know that they
were teams that had starter jacket love and fans. I
asked you for a reason, but no fans. I'll tell
you why though, Charlotte Hornets, Raiders. There there are teams

(31:49):
that you didn't need to be a fan, I know, yeah,
and they will.

Speaker 4 (31:53):
Jackets as a kid we saw legendary actor James Garner
walking the Raiders sidelines wearing a starter jacket.

Speaker 2 (32:00):
They say that Shoe Torri, when he was managing the Mets,
was rocking a starter jacket and that's when it.

Speaker 3 (32:06):
Came the thing. They ended up licensing it with the
MLB and everything else.

Speaker 2 (32:10):
So uh, they credit the success in mainstream of the
starter jacket to the Mets and Tory. I've always thought
that Joe Tory fashionista I credit I mean maybe listen
maybe And most recently, who was it? Carl Bankster brought

(32:33):
it back? Who brought it back? Carlton Banks?

Speaker 3 (32:36):
Oh, someone brought it back? Hold on, look it up.

Speaker 2 (32:38):
But uh, we all had a starter jacket. You were
probably rocking one back in ninety one. Was it? Was
it fair to say that you had a starter jacket,
but you also had an apex? You were allowed to
have ball like was apex? Did you think like the
bootleg or did you have one as well?

Speaker 4 (32:54):
For me?

Speaker 2 (32:55):
For me, the apex was a windbreaker that I could
win down the show. Sure, like on the boardwalk, it
was a cheaper. I didn't like those I had him though,
I didn't think there was shame in it. Though it
wasn't like it wasn't like Transformers go Bots. I thought
it was like Starter, but you could have an Apex too.

Speaker 3 (33:12):
I agree.

Speaker 2 (33:12):
It was more of a lighter windbreaker, so you could
have a Starter and an apex.

Speaker 4 (33:16):
Back then, Starter was just better, classier, shiny. Carl Banks
was the one that brought it back by yeah.

Speaker 2 (33:23):
Because I remember we had him on our show years
ago and he was bringing it back, and I remember like, hey, dude,
want you.

Speaker 3 (33:28):
Hooking me up?

Speaker 2 (33:28):
But one then, if you're bringing him back, let me
let me tell you it's a It's interesting when you
look back. Cavino and I have one discrepancy, and we've
talked about this before on our show, but ye know
we're new here showing with you guys on DP. When
you think starter jacket back in the day, we all.

Speaker 3 (33:43):
Have a different version of which was the original.

Speaker 2 (33:46):
I always pictured the pullover starter jacket with the little
pouch you had in front mm hm and you had
a zip up. You picture the zip up like Raiders one. Yeah,
I picture rocking the one that you pulled over, because
I remember as a kid, I would be like, you know,
you would have to pull over your head and you'd
be on your way to school and you'd mess up
your hair every day. I think pull over, you think
zip up. Give us how starter jackets came unraveled? Joe Tory,

(34:09):
then manager of the New York Mets, was an early
convert starter jacket. He was the guy people are like,
what is that? All the other team wanted it?

Speaker 3 (34:19):
Said Joe Torri also parachute pints enrich.

Speaker 2 (34:24):
Joe Tory also the first got to wear Jinko Jee's
in the early two thousands.

Speaker 4 (34:28):
Well, I didn't know that my raider starter jacket had
the hard buttons, not a zip work.

Speaker 3 (34:34):
I remember that.

Speaker 5 (34:35):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, man, flashback.

Speaker 2 (34:39):
Joe Tory the first man to wear rocks in the
early twenty teens.

Speaker 3 (34:44):
Yes, says it, fashionist. I didn't know. Wow, yep, yep, yep.
True story.

Speaker 2 (34:51):
But they say that the Mets, your Mets were the
first to rock that starter jacket on a professional level.
The Mets in Joe Tory was the worst the era
of his life. So at least something good comes out
of that for Joe Tom.

Speaker 3 (35:03):
Allright, listen, we got more Covino and rich In for
the great Dan Patrick. Next right here on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (35:09):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Dan
Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern six am Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio WAPP.

Speaker 2 (35:19):
It's Cavino and Rich on Fox Sports Radio. Day one
of the Dan Patrick Hatrick, which means we'll be back
tomorrow and the next day tomorrow you want to pay tribute,
go way back on a Wednesday and tribute to Vince Vaughan.

Speaker 3 (35:36):
He's got some new stuff.

Speaker 2 (35:37):
In a new show, and I think he doesn't get
enough credit for what he did in the two thousands,
and he got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
So tomorrow we'll talk to Sports Radio. I would say
Rick Vaughn gets probably the most credit.

Speaker 3 (35:48):
A little more credit. Yeah on Rick, give him, give
him the heater. Rick Vaughan the better athlete of the family. Uh. So,
tomorrow show.

Speaker 2 (36:01):
Going to be action pack and if we have time
on our normal two to four show five to seven
on the East Cavino and Rich on Fox Sports Radio,
we do a little midweek major. Uh But thank you
guys for hanging out with us. Trivia almost every day,
prizes all the time, super fun time with Covino and
Rich and I appreciate Patrick mahomestopping by today.

Speaker 5 (36:23):
That was great.

Speaker 2 (36:24):
You just talking about the starter jackets. Every time you do,
we get a ton of feedback. Sean hit us up, Danny.
Is it true that on the West Coast if you
were a Raiders starter jacket, that was your way of
trying to tell her when you were a little hard,
you were a little tough.

Speaker 5 (36:38):
Yeah, but that's not why I wore it.

Speaker 3 (36:40):
I would say wherever you lived.

Speaker 4 (36:42):
I mean, I was an actual Raiders fan, and I
had a couple of teachers, especially one I remember in
high school to enter the class wearing NFL gear. She
would quiz you on the team right to make sure
you were a fan of the team. So I started
with all the oh, the big uglies, the o lineman. Yes,
stop right there, I get it, get it, You're you're

(37:03):
a fan. Okay, sit down.

Speaker 2 (37:04):
I actually rocked the Raiders starter when I was a kid,
just because I wanted.

Speaker 3 (37:08):
I want to think I was hard. That's the truth.

Speaker 2 (37:10):
That's the truth. That and you just love Jim Plunkett.
I was a big fan of Marcus Allen on tech Mobile.
That was the extent of my fandom. So we'll get
to a bunch of stuff tomorrow. It's gonna be fun.
Dan Patrick all week. Thanks for hanging with us. We
appreciate you. Thanks for giving us a chance. Covin and
rich In for Dan Patrick. Now, I did have one
thought about the men's Olympic US team we saw Lebron

(37:34):
other than him getting posterized, which was you know that
one French player has like the highlight of their life.

Speaker 3 (37:39):
Huh, Danny, Like, I mean that was incredible.

Speaker 5 (37:41):
Just yeah, slamming over the Lebron was trying to.

Speaker 2 (37:44):
Get But nonetheless, that guy has his life highlight. Yeah,
that's going over the mantle that photo. Frank, Sure the
picture is a little bit out of context exactly, but
you know what, Danny for the rest of his life
that photo.

Speaker 3 (37:57):
It's like, remember when John Starks had dunked over Jordan.

Speaker 5 (38:00):
That was a real dunk.

Speaker 2 (38:01):
But but Jordan, you could argue, was also trying to
get possession. But every New York kid had that John
Starks poster.

Speaker 3 (38:06):
That was magic. Every little French kid's gonna be like that.
You mean he dunked over Lebron. Cool.

Speaker 2 (38:12):
Now here's an interesting thought. Let me compare it to
if you remember when you were a kid. Remember how
your dad would beat you in you know, twenty one
with a stick with a stick, you know, ping pong, poll,
you know, a ray so you'd play you know, you
chewed hoops at your dad played horse. There came a
point where you beat your dad right and it and

(38:37):
he was trying. That's when you became the band of
the house. Beat your dad like, you know, wait, dad,
you didn't let me win. You know, I beat you
or at that time where you're like, oh wow, my
kid's faster than me. Oh geez, here's my analogy. Fast
forward to twenty twenty eight. I saw the meme that

(38:57):
everyone saw that Lebron's Steph and are all gonna be
roughly forty year older, which means it's a transition in
the NBA coming up where a lot of these legendary guys,
future Hall of famers, best of all time are retiring.

Speaker 5 (39:11):
Right.

Speaker 2 (39:14):
We keep talking about how the game has gone global
and basketball is in international sport more than ever. Was
this the last Olympics where the US is clearly the favorite?

Speaker 3 (39:25):
When you think about Wemby.

Speaker 2 (39:26):
In four years, Jokic in four years, other young international players.
Was this the last quote lay up for Team USA,
where it's like, yo, you're gonna win.

Speaker 3 (39:36):
It's Team USA without Lebron, without staff, without KD where
they're given other countries four years to improve, and you're
giving guys like Wemby.

Speaker 2 (39:45):
Yeah, you're also given guys like Anthony Edwards four years
to improve and the other guys four years to improve.
I'm saying, essentially, will Dad lose the race in four years?
Will the will the kid mature like well I beat Dad?
Will these other young countries come out on top. I
think that the gap closes, but I think US still prevails.

Speaker 3 (40:05):
Thinking there's so much talent.

Speaker 2 (40:07):
Think about how the gap has continuously closed since the
Dream Team, causing all these silly debates of.

Speaker 3 (40:13):
Dream Team versus this team.

Speaker 2 (40:14):
And I just think that in four years, when some
of the current legends are done, does a young NBA
US team beat a matured Wemby, a Jokic and some
of these international stars. Yannis will still be young enough
to play. It's just an interesting him will be thirty,

(40:34):
so he'll get a chance to play. Finally, Anthony Edward
Halliburton still right, he'll be twenty seven like some of
the young talent, younger talent they're like really young, and
he got plenty of years left. I don't think America
is going anywhere in basketball, but I do agree with
what you're saying. The gaps close in and it will

(40:56):
continue to close. But much like I said, much like
you when you finally were able to Uh, oh my god,
I beat dad in a race, or like you know,
I was at the carnival and I threw a baseball
faster than my dad, Like there comes.

Speaker 3 (41:06):
A point where you know, a little bro, or do
you catch up to your dad your pops?

Speaker 2 (41:11):
I think the street continues, so great question to think about.
And then again tomorrow we pay tribute to Vince Vaughn
and whatever happens to night, we'll be discussing it.

Speaker 1 (41:21):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (41:21):
Day two of the Dan Patrick Hatrick.

Speaker 2 (41:23):
And Midweek Major all the biggest stories in the world
of sports and entertainment. Thanks for hanging with us at
coviing on Rich or anything you miss. Thank you Dan
Patrick for letting us fill in the Dan Patrick Hatrick
Day one in the books, We'll see tomorrow. Enjoy your
Tuesday until then, I read it. There you baby, see
