Speaker 1 (00:00):

Resbutia ha man?

Speaker 3 (00:10):
You do?

Speaker 2 (00:11):
Or should I say? Since it is the week of
the fourth I'm sorry? Was that your Wendy Williams?

Speaker 4 (00:16):
What was that?

Speaker 5 (00:17):
No? How you doing?

Speaker 6 (00:18):
It?

Speaker 5 (00:18):
Was my Joey Tribiani.

Speaker 4 (00:19):
Oh okay, I'm doing good.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
I'm always having fun filling in like filling Frank for
the great Dan Patrick. Day three of the Dan Slam,
which means we'll be here tomorrow as well, celebrating the holiday.

Speaker 5 (00:34):
Celebrate.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
Oh yeah, we'll we celebrating with you tomorrow morning. Cavino
and Rock.

Speaker 3 (00:40):
We are going to talk some movies in a little bit.
Uh so keep your fourth of July, Red White, and
Blue Chonies on. A movie was released today on Netflix,
and I think everyone's gonna be talking about it. I thought,
I don't know, why call me? You know, maybe I
just didn't. I'm not a good reader. I guess I
thought it was Beverly Hills Cop four the whole time.

(01:01):
It's Beverly Hills cop axel F that's the fourth one.
It's not called Beverly Hills Cup four. But Eddie Murphy's
back today on Netflix, so I'm sure a lot of
people will gonna be talking about that.

Speaker 5 (01:11):
So we'll talk a little movies, a little bit, We'll do.

Speaker 3 (01:13):
Midweek major with spot all the big headlines in the
world of sports and entertainment, and today's an anniversary.

Speaker 5 (01:20):
Of something I wanted to just bring up before the
end of the show.

Speaker 3 (01:23):
So as I say, back it up, Terry, back it up, Terry,
put it reverse, Terry.

Speaker 5 (01:28):
I know, we wanted to talk about Tim Anderson.

Speaker 2 (01:31):
Tim Anderson, It's as simple as what happened. He was
his own biggest fan. He was saying things like he's
the next Jackie Robinson. I mean he said that, not us.

Speaker 3 (01:44):
Well, yeah, our buddy Jason Stewart from The Doug Gottlieb
Show put on Twitter yesterday. Makes it tough to be
the next Jackie Robinson when you're not on a big
league roster.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
In his defense, I think the quote was like he
feels like he's the next Jackie Robinson. In his defense,
he was putting up big numbers. He' padded three thirty
five one year in twenty nineteen, chimp batting champ the
next year three twenty two, three oh nine, three oh one,
three oh one, and twenty twenty two when he was
an All Star, and now with Miami he's designated for assignment.

(02:18):
The Marlins have designated Tim Anderson for assignment. Now, my
theory is pretty simple, and there may be no juice
to this theory at all, but my theory is, here's
what happened to Tim Anderson. The dude got punch in
the face with a little reality check. I feel like,
here's a guy who was so boastful, so flashy, and

(02:42):
so good and confident in himself that when Jose Ramirez
of the Guardians embarrassed him nationwide and that highlight was
everywhere and it lived over and over again on social media,
I feel like it knocked the steam out of him
and made him feel stupid, and I feel like it

(03:03):
hurt his ego a little bit, which hurt his confidence,
and he hasn't been the same player since. And you
could say, oh, maybe some injuries here and there, but
I'm telling you, man, I think they had a lot
to do. Because we've seen it before with Joey Batts.

Speaker 5 (03:16):
I feel like.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
When Jose Bautista, I feel like what we're getting again
is another case of Jose Bautista, a guy who I mean,
that dude had a strut about him, the bat flip,
he played flashy, he had that sweet scruff, He was Diesel.
That dude was Jack playing with all this swag and confidence. Right,
he gets embarrassed by ruof net Odor, smaller guy knocks

(03:38):
him out boom right.

Speaker 4 (03:39):
We all remember that, and.

Speaker 2 (03:41):
He can't shake it off because honestly, it was the
lasting image for everybody, and it just seems so odd
because we had this image of Bautista and we're like,
we have roof Ned had the best of him, the
same way that Jose Ramirez had the best of Tim
Anderson when Tim Anderson welcomed that that little scrum that
they had and he got knocked down on his ass

(04:02):
in that clip.

Speaker 4 (04:03):
That's embarrassing.

Speaker 2 (04:04):
So he went from batting champion batting three hundreds to
two forty five and twenty twenty three to a meager
like Bob Seger only because it.

Speaker 4 (04:15):
Rhymes nothing against Bob Seger.

Speaker 7 (04:17):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (04:17):
But at the two fourteen, now designated for assignment. Now
do we wish him the best? Yeah, he's an electric
player and I do, but we ask what happened to this, dude.

Speaker 3 (04:28):
Two factors here from me, I don't know if I'm
buying it to the whole Odor Baptista theory.

Speaker 2 (04:35):
Like sometimes you get hit smacked, its reality lose part too. Man,
you lose your mojo.

Speaker 3 (04:39):
You're like Austin Powers lost his mojo back and back
in the nineties.

Speaker 5 (04:43):
Listen, I get it.

Speaker 3 (04:44):
There are times where a guy could lose his mojo
his confidence, dude, Not to get vulgar, but it happens
to guys in the bedroom because sometimes the guy's all
confident goes through a rough breakup and he's like, hey, buddy, what's.

Speaker 4 (04:54):
Going on though, dude?

Speaker 2 (04:55):
Because once, once you have that moment and it gets
in your head, it's almost like you're mentally you're mentally
cramping your next performance. And I feel like some of
this gotten in Tim's head.

Speaker 5 (05:06):
Man.

Speaker 3 (05:07):
I mean that used to be the criticism of a
Rod in the playoffs, like he would he would you know,
bat three hundred be an MVP candidate year off, the year,
postseason until nine a ra would get in the postseason,
grip the bat too tight, as you would say, and listen,
guys getting their own head. I have another theory. There's
two theories here. Number one, I think if you've been there,

(05:29):
done that, unless you're an old, washed up guy, I.

Speaker 5 (05:34):
Believe you have it in you to get back.

Speaker 3 (05:36):
So a lot of times you see an NBA player
who has a rough season shooting, or you know, you
see a guy batting fifty points lower than he usually does,
or a running back who.

Speaker 5 (05:47):
Lost a step. Sometimes I feel like, if a guy's
young enough, that's a great guy to take a chance on.

Speaker 3 (05:53):
Like to me, there's got to be a team right now.
That's like, ooh, we could fix him, and.

Speaker 2 (05:57):
Well, well, sometimes people get in their own way, and
you might be seeing that. Even with Trevor Bauer. I'm
not comparing the two at all at all. These are
two totally different stories, let's make that clear. But they
both had a stigma of being bad clubhouse guys, and
maybe that's what it is too. It's like Miami's like, yo,
he's Batten two fourteen and nobody likes him. It's not

(06:18):
worth it, so they designate him for assignment.

Speaker 4 (06:21):
Again.

Speaker 2 (06:21):
And that's me speculating, because Tim Anderson has gone on record.

Speaker 4 (06:25):
This is not me just speculating.

Speaker 2 (06:27):
This is what he said back in the day about
how he's not there to make friends and he sort
of travels alone because he doesn't feel like the rest
of his teammates because of cultural differences and regional differences,
and he doesn't bond with his team really like on
the field, yes, off the field, no, So maybe it's like, hey,
this guy, nobody gets along with him really, and he's
Batten two fourteen. This is guy, you know, let's just

(06:49):
move on from him. So maybe it's a little of
that too. Maybe that's what makes it easy for them
to move on from him, and maybe that's why other
people might not want to deal with them.

Speaker 3 (06:58):
Dude, do you remember right I said it was D'Angelo
Russell right, like a year ago he shot awful from
three point range and then it looked like.

Speaker 5 (07:06):
Ooh, he got his he got his playoff shot back,
and then he sort of fell apart again.

Speaker 8 (07:11):
Well no, no, no, the season before that, he struggled.
This past season he broke a Lakers record for the
most threes made.

Speaker 3 (07:18):
And then when when the Nuggets came around, he did
have another couple.

Speaker 5 (07:22):
Of rough games.

Speaker 6 (07:23):
Was inconsistent.

Speaker 3 (07:24):
Yeah, yeah, don't regress back to that, D'Angelo Russell. I
think when a guy has that skill and maybe it's mental,
I think he could find his way back to you know.

Speaker 5 (07:36):
I hope.

Speaker 4 (07:36):
So I'm not rooting against him. He's only thirty one.
I believed him.

Speaker 5 (07:40):
There's another question at hand here, and it just popped
in my head.

Speaker 3 (07:44):
So I don't want to put you on the spot.
I know you love when I do that. So Tim
Anderson batting champ. DJ Lemayhew batting champ, Jeff McNeil batting champ.
What's doing with all these batting champs going from three
point thirty three forty to like the interstate when we

(08:05):
were kids, Not to sound like when we were kids,
Like Wade Boggs didn't have a season where he batt
at two ten. You know, Tony Gwinn didn't go from
batting three sixty to two twenty one year?

Speaker 5 (08:16):
Oh, are these guys getting figured out? Are they trying
to adjust their game?

Speaker 3 (08:19):
What is going on where Jeff McNeil, DJ Lemayhew and
Tim Anderson all batting champs?

Speaker 5 (08:24):
Again?

Speaker 4 (08:25):
If we're gonna play what happened? Right?

Speaker 2 (08:26):
Lem Mayhew foot injuries never the same dude's you know,
stomping around the bases looking like his feet hurt. So again,
I think you're dealing with injuries. That has to be
a big part of it. Tim Anderson, I do believe
that people are figured out right rich, But Tim Anderson
went from batting champion three thirty five. The next year
he batt at three twenty two, the year after that

(08:47):
three oho nine, the year after that three oh one,
and then he gets punched in the face. Then he
starts to fall off a little bit. So I think
injury has a big part of it. I think there's
a lot of mental that's a part of it. Your
thoughts again, is he just another Joey Batts situation going
on or do you think there's something more? Of course,

(09:08):
like I said, we're never rooting for anyone to fail.
That's not the type of people we are. I'd love
to see Tim Anderson come back and help a team win.
I'd love to see that.

Speaker 5 (09:21):
Again.

Speaker 2 (09:22):
I think he was in the league too long to
be where they figured him out. You know, I think
this is his ninth or tenth year already. Like a
guy like Luis Heill, who's a pitcher for the Yankees,
right dude, he came out on fire this season and
now they're saying because he struggled his last four starts.
They're saying that he's getting lit up because they figured

(09:43):
him out. That makes you know they he's been exposed
to some degree and they figured out how to play him.
I think that has some juice when it's a young
player new You know, when a guy comes out and
he's hitting bombs because no one knows how.

Speaker 4 (09:59):
To pitch to him.

Speaker 2 (10:00):
Then they figure him out and he falls off. Tim
Anderson was was an All Star.

Speaker 5 (10:07):
It's it's so hard to it's so hard to decide.

Speaker 3 (10:11):
Is it mental? Did they lose their skill set? I mean,
these guys have been playing since their little kids. They
get to an elite level, they're elite at an elite level,
and then you just dip off. It really just never
makes sense to me.

Speaker 5 (10:25):
Now.

Speaker 4 (10:25):
It also plays what is such you know what a
tough game.

Speaker 2 (10:28):
It is like DJ Lemayhew was a batting champ in
both leagues, right, you know, you you miss all these games.
You just can't just jump right back and be the
same DJ LeMay who you once were. And I think
that happened to Tim Anderson with a mix of again
getting knocked on his ass publicly again maybe he's not
the badest dude in the land because he just got

(10:50):
knocked out, and and I'm sure he battles the day
to day injuries just like anybody else.

Speaker 4 (10:55):
And it's hard to get back.

Speaker 8 (10:56):
Getting knocked out as an embarrassment, embarrassment and it can
shake your confidence. And confidence is such a huge part
in sports that when you lose that it's hard to
bounce back.

Speaker 2 (11:08):
I'm not sure I was ever the thame when I
was knocked out by James Bucked Douglas. You think Mike
Tyson was really the same fighter after that. No, even
even we as fans were like, oh, he's human, I
don't know man, and he got.

Speaker 3 (11:21):
Have you seen that? Have you seen that meme? Uh
rolling around about the Cubs picture? Uh show tal I manga?
You know the young picture before meeting Angel Reese. They did,
they did a w n B A gay game Day.

Speaker 2 (11:39):
I think rich Is mentally shook after blowing that name
right there. I think that name just punched you in
the face. He's give him a break. He's tired, He's
been doing a lot of travel.

Speaker 4 (11:49):
Joe Biden had a cold.

Speaker 3 (11:51):
Yeah, guys, I had a cold and I was traveling
my team warned me against it, but I almost fell
asleep on stage here.

Speaker 2 (11:56):
Yeah, man, that name punched you in the face and
shook the rest of your confidence in that sentence. I
don't think guys, I'll be honest, I don't think cool.
Hear it word after that, you know, damn it. But
that's that proves Danny g and our point. He was embarrassed.

Speaker 4 (12:22):
Can you imagine, Rich, you you're the bad.

Speaker 2 (12:24):
This dude had a strut about him, a swag about him.
He was playing like he was Willie Mays Hayes, right,
he had that vibe about him, and he was that guy.
He was him as they say, he gets knocked on
his ass by Jose Ramirez and dude, we don't know.
We'll never know, hopefully, what it's like to be embarrassed

(12:45):
on that level where you know, you have to pretend
to come out the next day like it didn't happen,
and then it lives on social media and everyone's sharing
it and it's on the highlight reels everywhere, Like, we
don't know what that's like. Rich just broke down on
national radio. So that's prettymbarrassing. Yeah, I hope you don't
get the after that.

Speaker 3 (13:02):
I'm not saying another athletes say the rest of the show.

Speaker 5 (13:08):
You know, let me try, let me try again.

Speaker 1 (13:11):
Oh no, o, oh.

Speaker 3 (13:13):
Boy, have you seen the meme? Now every word feels weird.
Oh have you seen the meme? Geez, stop it? Have
you seen the meme of Chicago Cubs picture showta Imaga
His e r A before meeting Angel Reese they did

(13:33):
a w NBA night at the stadium at Wrigley. His
EARRA was point eight nine zero eight nine, and then
after meeting Angel Reese, his aar ray has been seven
point four five. I don't think it's the Angel Reese curse,
but people are joking about it.

Speaker 2 (13:48):
No, he should probably have set an appointment with with
Grimace to fix this problem. So you gotta wonder, like, yo, listen,
it's not Angel Reese, it's not Grimace. Something happens where
teams or players or things get hot get cold.

Speaker 5 (14:03):
Sometimes it's permanent. Now, Danny g it could be.

Speaker 2 (14:06):
Something personal too, though, all right, So again we're just speculating, right,
and we've seen it in the past. My favorite example
is always like a Chuck Knoblock. Everyone was like, what
happened at Chuck Knoblock? He was a superstar in Minnesota,
and now he can't even throw to first base with
the Yankees, and he still played really well. And then
he moved to the outfield, if you remember, because he

(14:27):
had so many issues at second. Turns out he was
dealing with a lot of post divorce stress and going
through a divorce and a lot of personal issues that
we don't know about. That's the thing that we tend
to forget.

Speaker 4 (14:40):
Now.

Speaker 2 (14:40):
I'm not saying that Tim Anderson is going through these things.
The truth is we don't know, and we're speculating, but
we often forget that there are real people going through
real people problems. For all we know is puppy died
and that weighs on him, and that's understandable. The thing
is we don't know, and all we could do is
speculate because we're like him. Anderson designated for assignment. He

(15:03):
should be lighting it up with the Morlands right now.

Speaker 3 (15:05):
I mean, here's a guy that was sought after right
now based on what you just said. I remember former
Dodger Danny g former New York met The guy's been
around the league back in the day. Paul Laduka had
his best year during his divorce because you never know
how you're going to react in those moments.

Speaker 4 (15:23):
Farv theory.

Speaker 2 (15:24):
Man when his when his pops passed, he had like
the game of his life. You remember that, Yeah, of course,
because some people have a crazy ability to block everything
out when they're in between the lines.

Speaker 3 (15:36):
Now there are some young players in the NFL, Danny
g You know that as a Niners fan, maybe I
shouldn't be as nervous anymore. But remember the sentiment last
year was brock Party will be exposed, like they'll figure
him out that Who knows if that story is written yet.
Now another full season for brock Party you're gonna get,
you know, yea early on?

Speaker 5 (15:57):
Yeah, the year two of c J. Stroud.

Speaker 3 (16:00):
Is he gonna replicate what he did last year for
the Texans? And you know, you never know after one
year in any league, right when Bin Yama next year
could come out and light it up, or these guys
could take a step backward.

Speaker 5 (16:13):
You don't know, dude.

Speaker 2 (16:14):
I think I think there's something more to the story. Remember,
like I said, it could be personal and we don't
know about it. I call that the Matt Harvey theory.
Remember what happened to Matt Harvey the Dark Knight. You
were his biggest fan man every Friday night in New York.
We were on SNY at the time. It was like
a major event when he took the mount. Everyone was

(16:34):
wearing their Batman masks. Matt Harvey taking over the city.

Speaker 4 (16:39):
It was electric.

Speaker 5 (16:40):
I wore that Batman mask in the bedroom too, I'm
sure kidding.

Speaker 2 (16:43):
And then the backstory was he was dating Victoria's secret model,
Adriana Lima, and I get it, She's a once in
a lifetime looker, right, But then he was all heartbroken
and distraught when they broke up, and he was publicly
like crying about it and everything. And dude, I'm not saying, hey,
suck it up and be a man. That's life, and

(17:05):
certain things get to you and they hit people different ways,
and in my opinion, he let that bleed into his
job and wasn't the same. Of course, he dealt with
injury too, rich, but I'm saying it's it's just uh
like the snowball effect of things that he couldn't get past.
But I remember that, and I remember, to me, he
lost his confidence in that moment. Wasn't the same guy?

Speaker 5 (17:27):
Could I compliment you? Because I never do.

Speaker 4 (17:29):
Sure is it my hair? Thanks man?

Speaker 3 (17:31):
Actually no, you got you got like a superman like
like one. Yeah, it's actually it's not that great today.

Speaker 4 (17:38):
That's to steal your girl. Curl bro, that's what that is.

Speaker 5 (17:41):
That's never been called that.

Speaker 6 (17:42):
It is.

Speaker 3 (17:44):
When when you were going through your divorce, because you know,
people I love.

Speaker 4 (17:47):
To bring up your divorce. Thanks man.

Speaker 3 (17:50):
I'm I'm shocked at some of the great radio and
TV we did there in that.

Speaker 5 (17:56):
I feel like you pulled a Paul Leduca.

Speaker 6 (17:58):
I pulled it.

Speaker 4 (17:59):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (17:59):
While while you might have.

Speaker 3 (18:00):
Been hurting on the inside and figuring out like oh
visit you know child support this?

Speaker 5 (18:05):
When can I see my kid?

Speaker 3 (18:06):
When you were going through your divorce, we were doing
great radio and broadcasting. You could have been terrible and
that would have hurt me, the show, everything. But you know,
some people go through personal stuff and they bring it
to work. Some people just dive into work. And I'm
not again, I'm not I'm not saying that's Tim Anderson.
Something ain'ts Something ain't During the kool Aid as astern

(18:27):
Tura and Tone Loko one said something ain't staring the
kool Aid, And you know, maybe it's baseball. Maybe baseball
is a game of It is a game of inches
more than any other game. Where a Tim Anderson, a
DJ le Mayhew, a Jeff McNeil, Jeff McNeil. Again, these
are all batting champs that are batting around two hundred

(18:48):
or have been.

Speaker 5 (18:48):
A sign So it's like, what the hell's going on?
Maybe you realize that, Uh, like the other night Jeff
McNeil had an over but every at bat he hit
a nice heart shot at someone and.

Speaker 3 (19:00):
You can see the frustration in his eyes. So baseball
is a tricky mental game more than any.

Speaker 2 (19:07):
I think, so shout of doubt and we know he's
better than that, and we can't help but speculate. Is
it a Joey Batts sort of thing. Is it a
confidence thing? Is it a personal thing, a physical thing?
Tim Anderson designated for assignment, you know, wishing him the best.
He's still a young player, one of the best at
what he did. My opinion was never the same after
getting knocked on his ass. We'll take your feedback and

(19:28):
we'll do some midweek major next Cavino and rich In

up in a few minutes, the biggest stories in sports

on Tim Anderson.

Speaker 3 (20:56):
I do think that a team will pay up Tim
Anderson now if whatever happens, I feel like you're gonna
see a huge second half from him. Yeah, he was
wasted away on one of the worst teams in baseball.
And sometimes a guy like Tim Anderson who does have
an ego. He's a confident type of swagger player that
you know. I called himself the modern day Jackie Robinson
or something like that. So if he finds himself on

(21:19):
a contender and fits into the clubhouse, I think he
finds himself right back to where he was. I think
guys that are emotional like at Tim Anderson could play
down to their competition. I think when you're wasting away
in Miami with the Marlins, playing in front of two
hundred people and you're winning, you have twenty wins as
a team or something, I've I think some of those

(21:40):
things add up for a guy like Tim Anderson.

Speaker 2 (21:42):
Matt Ellis agrees with you, he'll end up on a
good team and play a lot better and that's what
we hope for. So what happened to Tim Anderson? Well,
we'll see what happens next.

Speaker 4 (21:53):
Again.

Speaker 2 (21:54):
I'm Steve Cavino, that is Rich, Danny, g Joel, Kevin.
Spotty's here getting from midweek Major. And do we have
a few phone calls before we get into it?

Speaker 5 (22:04):
Yeah, we do.

Speaker 8 (22:04):
Not about the Tim Anderson topic though, So I think
it is time for Spotty.

Speaker 2 (22:08):
Oh okay, perfect, So without further ado, we do it
every Wednesday, It's time for mid week Major.

Speaker 6 (22:23):
I like it.

Speaker 5 (22:24):
Yeah, yeah, boy. You know what this reminds me of. Well,
while Joel finds mid Week Major, we were in Mexico once.

Speaker 4 (22:34):
A bunch of times.

Speaker 7 (22:37):
Too, and Rich get you over the middle of the
week mid week Major that we throw sports and pop
culture headlines and topics at the fellas and it's like
the kids.

Speaker 10 (22:50):
Say, week definitely major.

Speaker 1 (22:53):
Seeing our scoring mid week Major.

Speaker 11 (23:05):
Yeah yeah, I love it.

Speaker 6 (23:08):
Better late than never with midweek Major. When you hear
the horns hit, you know you have made it to
the middle of the week.

Speaker 8 (23:13):
In this case, we're getting you over the holiday hump
here and before we hand things over to the number
one host and only host of a segment we are
gonna We usually roll a big red loved two of them,
the Big Red Sticky Love Dice in the main studio,
but since Dicky is in Texas, I have Ben Maller's

(23:33):
famous penny here, Oh his ass penny his TV show
during the football season, Benny versus the penny.

Speaker 6 (23:41):
This is the actual penny.

Speaker 5 (23:42):
No way.

Speaker 6 (23:43):
Yes, so you are home, Coveno.

Speaker 8 (23:45):
Because you're here in the LA studios, you get to
call heads or tails.

Speaker 6 (23:48):
Call heads and it is heads.

Speaker 2 (23:52):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (23:53):
That means Coveno gets the first take on these sports
and pop culture topics. And now later in Gentlemen, the
most famous person from Scotch Plains New Jersey besides Judy
Bloom Spotty boy.

Speaker 10 (24:07):
Hey guys, guys, let's see where to begin. Where to begin.
Lakers fans may not be betting on Bronnie James, but
that's not stopping the actual betting on Bronnie James.

Speaker 6 (24:22):
According to bet.

Speaker 10 (24:23):
MGM, more people have bet on Bronnie to be the
NBA Rookie of the Year than any other player. His
current odds, by the way, plus twenty five thousand wow, right,
I know current favorite is wizard rookie? Is it Alexandre
or Alexander?

Speaker 6 (24:40):
Sorry?

Speaker 10 (24:41):
With plus four to twenty five feared a hype as
out weighing the stats and bet MGM also revealed that
despite the two hundred to one odds, he was actually
one hundreds of people voted on him being for the
number one pick in the NBA draft, So people are
betting on him regardless of the stats.

Speaker 4 (24:57):
Midweek or major.

Speaker 2 (24:58):
This is major because I don't see it happening, not
Ruin rooting against them by any means, And anything that
has to deal with gambling in oil of the sports
is always major. I can see Rich's wheels turning because
he's a gambling freak right now. And you also have
to factor the extra added pressure this puts on Bronnie James.

Speaker 4 (25:19):
You know.

Speaker 2 (25:19):
I think that's that's a major factor here. There's a
lot of eyes. I think it just reminds you how
many eyes are gonna be on Bronnie James to perform.
I think it's a major story, doesn't I think.

Speaker 5 (25:33):
It's major, and I think it's actually not a terrible idea.

Speaker 3 (25:35):
Listen, you got a bunch of you know, French and
foreign players at the top of the draft.

Speaker 5 (25:40):
The NBA has changed. It's more of a global game now.

Speaker 3 (25:42):
We don't know how is zacharay Rechawse and you know
Sar and some of these young guys are going to
work out.

Speaker 5 (25:48):
So listen, if the Lakers do have.

Speaker 3 (25:52):
A shooter in connect they have Lebron, they have a
D and Danny g You and I were talking about
how they get a big guy to help a d.

Speaker 5 (26:00):
Listen, the Lakers are.

Speaker 6 (26:01):
Close a big guy, right, dog like dude.

Speaker 3 (26:05):
If you get a dog like the Rosan and a
big guy, maybe Bronnie under the tutelage of his dad
and some of these great veterans.

Speaker 5 (26:12):
I don't think it's a terrible bet. I don't think
it's a terrible bet. You lay one hundred, you win
twenty five thousand dollars, do it.

Speaker 2 (26:22):
I'm gonna be gunning for Bronnie James, just like we
see people gunning for Caitlin Clark, right because you know
your name's gonna be in the headlines. That's a big
name to defend, a big name to play against. And
I think he's gonna deal with a bit of an
adjustment period. And that might work against him. And again
just adding to the pressure of course rooting for the

(26:44):
kid to do well.

Speaker 4 (26:45):
I don't.

Speaker 2 (26:45):
I don't see him being Rookie of the Year. I'm
just hoping for a good season. But I do think
it's a major story.

Speaker 5 (26:51):
Well think about it. Twenty five to one, Like you said, right,
you bet you bet I was wrong?

Speaker 4 (26:56):
Rather you bet thousand to one?

Speaker 3 (27:00):
Okay, Well is it plus? Is it plus twenty five thousand? Yes,
so you bet you bet one hundred to twenty five thousand.
So it's like when I do some idiotic eight for
eight parlay thinking it's gonna work out. It's like, oh man,
I hit six of the eight, Like it's not gonna happen.

Speaker 5 (27:17):
But who knows. No, Stranger things have happened.

Speaker 4 (27:21):
Right, Stranger things cool?

Speaker 6 (27:24):
All right.

Speaker 10 (27:24):
Wimbledon is in full swing, which I know you're a
big tennis fan. Russian tennis star Andre rube Lev was
on the losing end of a first round upset at
Wimbledon on Tuesday, so upset. I don't know if you've
seen the video floating around that he proceeded to smash
the racket on his I believe, left knee during a
full blown tantrum.

Speaker 6 (27:45):
You're full blown.

Speaker 10 (27:46):
Tuesday's loss was the second disappointing exit he's had from
a grand the Grand Slam in two months, as he
was kicked and screamed his way out of the French
Open uh apparently as a history of these on court incidents.
And you could see him sitting on the sideline, blow
pouring down from his knee. And he's spoken out since
saying he just had to take his frustrations and emotions

(28:07):
out and he couldn't do it on the court because
apparently your band from smashing your racket on the grass,
So he just hit himself midweek or major.

Speaker 2 (28:15):
This is major in the sense that I've seen this
highlight over and over again this morning and I can't
believe my eyes. But what a weak display of professionalism.
It's weak in my opinion, Andre rubelev Andre, And you
know what, it doesn't matter what his name is, you
know what, because I'm always gonna remember this stupid highlight

(28:38):
of this guy. Here he is on a major stage
acting like a big sports baby.

Speaker 5 (28:43):
Have you seen it yet? Rich?

Speaker 4 (28:44):
It's ridiculous.

Speaker 2 (28:45):
He's not smashing the racket on his knee once or twice.
He's smashing the racket on his knee like twenty something times,
a child like, I'm not even kid like, to the
point where his knee starts to bleed.

Speaker 4 (28:59):
Not joking, not exaggerating.

Speaker 2 (29:01):
When you see this highlight, you're gonna be like, wait,
is the video skipping? Is this on repeat? Is there
a glitch? No, he just keeps on doing it because
he's a moron. So I think it's a bad look,
and I think it's a very weak look.

Speaker 6 (29:14):
Weak.

Speaker 5 (29:16):
Listen, I'm gonna go with midweek major.

Speaker 3 (29:18):
I'll go major. And by the way, it's fine. I
do like tennis. I love watching Alcoholz. I'm gonna watch
those highlights later. He's the most exciting young dude. But
this guy smashing a racket on himself. To me, listen,
there's passion, there's a motion on the field, on the
court a la John McEnroe back.

Speaker 5 (29:33):
In the day.

Speaker 3 (29:34):
But you know what, there's also idiotic behavior like Kevin
Brown punching a dugout wall, a guy banging his head
against the goalpost. Like there's ways like, there's foolish and
then this passion, this went from passion to foolish.

Speaker 2 (29:47):
The guy should be embarrassed. Yeah, it's an embarrassing display.
It's very baby like behavior. You know, I don't respect it.
One of my favorite baseball players ever ever is the
Warrior off pol O'Neil. But man, I would cringe when
I'd see him act like a big baby because and
he would take it out on the water cooler because
I know everyone else would use that as ammo, like,

(30:08):
look at this guy. Is this the guy you like?
What an ass clown? And that's how this guy looks
like a major ass clown. At least we knew who
paul'oneil was. I don't know this guy. Just know he's
a big baby Paul, and you look like an actual
clown with his hair.

Speaker 3 (30:19):
Yeah yeah, I was gonna say, who calls who calls
him the Warrior?

Speaker 2 (30:23):
More like the clown this guy named George Steinbrenner, You bozo?

Speaker 5 (30:27):
All right, Warrior? I can't call a guy warri when
he's got a white boy out.

Speaker 4 (30:31):
Oh sorry, I didn't know he had to have face paint,
all right.

Speaker 6 (30:34):
I found this interesting. A new study, maybe you will to.

Speaker 10 (30:37):
A new study of nil shows that while it's working,
it's not going as intended. Initially, The belief was that
athletes could take control of their brand and use their
fame to sign legitimate endorsement deals, but the study shows
that that only makes up about twenty percent of NIL,
and the rest is actually coming from college collectives, which
basically means that colleges and universities are just using as

(30:58):
a loophole to recruit and retain athletes without any sort
of business merit. So while NIL has grown from nine
hundred and seventeen million in twenty the twenty twenty one
season projected to be one point sixty seven billion this season,
it's yeah, it's not doing what it's intended. And men's
basketball players actually have the highest average NIL football a second,

(31:22):
but women's basketball has had the obviously the largest growth
in the last year.

Speaker 2 (31:26):
So is this midweek or major? I'm sorry, I had
a little gas moment in the middle of that. Name
image likeness meant for the players to be able to
capitalize on their own name.

Speaker 5 (31:37):
What are you, Joe Biden? You fall asleep sits?

Speaker 2 (31:39):
So I know there was a lot of like, no, no, no,
there's a lot of words there in numbers. I missed
one part in the college I'm not really comprehending.

Speaker 5 (31:47):
Can I start? Can I start?

Speaker 6 (31:49):
Yes?

Speaker 5 (31:49):
Please?

Speaker 6 (31:49):
Rich?

Speaker 4 (31:50):
No, you can't because you lost the coin flip.

Speaker 6 (31:52):
Okay, beat it.

Speaker 2 (31:53):
I'm not the only guy that maybe didn't follow. I
know what named Nil's four right? What are the colleges
doing again? What makes this diffusing?

Speaker 10 (32:00):
An IL was supposed to be so college students could
go get their own endorsement deals and make more money.

Speaker 6 (32:06):
We all know that.

Speaker 10 (32:07):
But all the money for most of the money from NIL,
eighty percent of it is coming from colleges recruiting and
retaining students.

Speaker 2 (32:15):
It's not coming from outside business sources. Yeah, that's not
what it's meant for. Humhm, not what it's meant for now,
how it was supposed to work. I think that's kind
of major because we fought so hard to get to
this point. We it was such a big deal to
have these kids be able to get paid for their name,
image likeness from outside endorsements. So it's a major story.

(32:39):
This is my first hearing about it, Rich, Do you
have any thoughts on it?

Speaker 3 (32:43):
Yeah, I've heard this, and you know, I think it's
I think it's major because a lot of times a
rule is made and then people find loopholes. That's everything
in life, right, And you're right. It was because guys
like Johnny Manzel realized, Man I could have made millions
selling jerseys and autographs that you know, some of these
stars that put up so many.

Speaker 5 (33:00):
Big numbers for their universities. It was for that.

Speaker 3 (33:03):
Now it's become hey, if you're a major D one school,
you could essentially buy the young recruits. And that just
doesn't work for the parody of the league.

Speaker 5 (33:11):
Some say it does.

Speaker 3 (33:12):
I think, I think you're just gonna get the big
players just making more money. It's not designed to recruit.
It's designed that players could use their likeness.

Speaker 2 (33:20):
Yeah, but I didn't know that, would you say eighty
percent of it? I didn't realize. I knew this was happening,
but I didn't realize that eighty percent of it was
going toward that.

Speaker 3 (33:28):
Yeah, it's it's you know, like we said, it was
designed for like, oh cool, he could get a sneaker
deal or sign jerseys. Now it's become hey, Georgia is
gonna pay this guy and donors are gonna give this
guy money, and that just takes away from what it
was meant to be.

Speaker 10 (33:41):
That's major Yeah, all right, And I mean we've touched
on it. I'll just wrap with this story.

Speaker 2 (33:46):
As you saw Caitlin Clark Angelrees putting their rivalry aside
as the two are headed for the twenty twenty four
NBA All Star Game.

Speaker 10 (33:52):
He saw the video of the Angel Rees crying for
being chosen. This is the first time in a decade
that two rookies were named to the WNBA All Star Game.
It'll take place in Phoenix July twentieth, and they'll be
facing the US women's national team, which, as you know,
there was a lot of controversy that neither Caitlyn Clark
nor Angel Reese were chosen to head to the Olympics,
so this will be kind of a way for them

(34:13):
to show their stuff. Fans were chosen by or the
All Stars were chosen by fans fifty percent of that
current WNBA players twenty.

Speaker 4 (34:22):
Five percent way and media another twenty five percent. Midweek
or major. I think this is so major.

Speaker 2 (34:28):
Makes you want to tune in again to see how
they compete with the national team. Angel Reese, what are
double doubles? Caitlin Clark? What are her shots from the logo? Dude,
this is a great story. It's cool to see two
rookies bringing it. It's major.

Speaker 4 (34:42):
Rich.

Speaker 5 (34:43):
I think it's major.

Speaker 3 (34:43):
I said before, I want Angel Reese and Kitlyn Clark
to whoop all their asses because they should both be
on Team USA. And I think they're bringing the numbers.
They're bringing the eyes that asses in the seats.

Speaker 5 (34:55):
I was wrong. I thought this would fade out. It's
still going.

Speaker 3 (34:59):
Caitlyn Clark, Angel Reese, and to see them play together,
that's must watch TV.

Speaker 5 (35:04):
So I think it's major. They go, Thank you, Spotty, Thank.

Speaker 2 (35:07):
You guys, and we got more. Covino and Rich next

Speaker 3 (36:32):
You know, we talked at a little baseball today and
I got to just make it very clear. By far,
baseball is the number one sport that your interest level
depends on how good your team is doing. By far,
you could watch any NFL game, you can watch good
NBA games. You can watch hockey, you can watch tennis,

(36:54):
you can watch golf. If your baseball team stinks. It
drains your love of the game.

Speaker 5 (37:00):
It really does. Like if your team's a bottom feedt
are you like.

Speaker 2 (37:03):
But I'm still watching. I think it's a sign of character.
You can't you can't only be there for the good times.

Speaker 3 (37:09):
Yeah, but you're full of it because you're a Yankees fan,
so you don't know you know what it's like. It's
like a rich guy telling a poor guy, uh, how
to how to spend his money. You you've never dealt
with a team that wins fifty, sixty, even seventy games.

Speaker 5 (37:22):
You're a Yankees fan every year?

Speaker 3 (37:25):
You know what a down here for you is Cavino
eighty something wins there they're a wild card.

Speaker 4 (37:30):
Yeah, yep, made a good choice.

Speaker 5 (37:33):
No, you don't. You don't get it.

Speaker 4 (37:34):
You're your fa Thank god every day that he made
me a Yankees fan. No, I get it. I wasn't disagreeing.

Speaker 2 (37:41):
I'm just saying you're the type of guy that bails
on the team and doesn't watch.

Speaker 4 (37:44):
That's all when they think.

Speaker 3 (37:46):
About what I'm saying is again, you can't relate if
you're if you're a fan of a team who goes
through their ups.

Speaker 4 (37:52):
And the rounds, I don't want to relate. I still
watch regardless.

Speaker 3 (37:57):
I don't blame you, but your perspective is trash. Okay, fine,
but yeah, the Mets another extra inning win last night,
and those are the best fun types, Like when your
team comes back. How do you feel now that we've
been like years deep now on the starting extra innings
of the run around?

Speaker 5 (38:13):
Second? Does that move it along? You think that's nonsense?

Speaker 7 (38:16):
No?

Speaker 6 (38:16):
I like it.

Speaker 2 (38:16):
Yeah, I'm not mad at it moves it along, keeps
it I manageable two plus hours.

Speaker 4 (38:21):
I'm all for it.

Speaker 3 (38:22):
Yeah, Okay, you know I wanted to bring this up
before you get out of here. I know, maybe we'll
throw it back a little bit more on tomorrow's show.
But today a big movie comes out on Netflix, Beverly
Hills Cop, Axel f The Return of Axel Foley Eddie Murphy.

(38:42):
I just check Netflix at streaming now. I don't know
who would watch it during the day, But you got
some plans for tonight if your team's not playing or
the game's over and you and wifey or you and
the girlfriend, are you and some buddies want to watch
Beverly Hills Cop the fourth one.

Speaker 5 (38:56):
I've heard people say that it's supposed to be really good.

Speaker 3 (38:59):
They put a lot of work into making it just right,
so we'll see. I'm sure tomorrow we'll give you the
review of that.

Speaker 2 (39:05):
Are you as pumped for this as you are for
all these other reboots and sequels that are coming out?
You got happy? Gilmore too was announced. I know you're
a big fan of Freaky Friday too.

Speaker 5 (39:19):
Watch all of them.

Speaker 2 (39:20):
They announced the Spaceball's reboot and Josh gadd is gonna
be in it. Mel Brooks is also involved, so there's
some juice behind that. The Naked Gun reboot with Liam Neeson. Again,
it's a trend. We see it all the time. Are
you expecting a lot from the fourth installment at Beverly Hills?

Speaker 7 (39:42):
Cop?

Speaker 5 (39:43):
I am? I really am?

Speaker 3 (39:44):
And hold on, I gotta ask Joel because I'm sure
he's an Eddie Murphy fan and he's from Detroit, which
is where Axel Foley's from.

Speaker 5 (39:50):
Are you gonna be watching Joel or what?

Speaker 4 (39:51):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (39:52):
Yeah, I'm gonna watch that tonight. Is it like appointment
watching tonight? Yeah?

Speaker 6 (39:56):
I have to work tonight. Okay, Well, somebody gives me
the next cold.

Speaker 2 (40:00):
If I I'm not giving you my password, man, get
your own. If I spent last night watching that weak
ass e Efron movie and no knock on him.

Speaker 4 (40:10):
If you like that sort of thing, good on you.

Speaker 2 (40:12):
But if I watched Family Affair yesterday, I think I
can make some time to watch Beverly Hills Cop four. Yeah, gonna,
I'm gonna watch my Metsi's I'm gonna go out for
dinner with my wife and then Beverly Hills Cop four
is tonight. And if we're gonna talk about movies, maybe
we'll touch on it more tomorrow, Cavino. But today I
have to bring it up because you reference it recently

(40:34):
as possibly the perfect movie. Thirty nine years ago today
in nineteen eighty five, Back to the Future hit the
movie theater on this day in nineteen eighty five.

Speaker 5 (40:45):
You're a little.

Speaker 3 (40:46):
Kid, probably with your alf lunchbox. You probably had an
eighteen lunchbox.

Speaker 2 (40:50):
I bet me had a Transformer's lunchbox. He manned lunchbox.
But it's not even just me who says it's the
perfect movie. That's sort of what film critics say about it.
And you remember, on a way back Wednesday, the struggles
the film had just to get to that point. Eric
Stoltz was Marty McFly and it just wasn't working. And

(41:13):
that's a great lesson in life. Sometimes you have to
face the music and face reality and say it's just
not working. I gotta make a change. And that's how
they felt about the movie, like this is supposed to
be good, this is supposed to be fun, and Eric
Stultz is just not meeting that vibe. And and they
were like, let's get this Michael J.

Speaker 4 (41:34):
Fox, Let's get Alex P. Keaton involved.

Speaker 3 (41:38):
Some people are overreactive so or not. In sports, some
teams revamp the bullpen after a couple of bad games.
And by the way, it all started back to future
because Bob Gail, one of the writers, thought, would I
be friends with my dad if.

Speaker 5 (41:50):
We were in high school together?

Speaker 3 (41:51):
And Tadah maybe one of the greatest movies of all
time on this day back in nineteen eighty five. So hey,
have a great Wednesday. We'll see you back here. Who
can complete the dance slam? Until then? A ribad there
you baby, got a good Wednesday.
