the way, do you see my dude on Friday Night?
Jonah Tong King Tong. I enjoyed that thoroughly. I like

(02:14):
that kid, superable, young Asian pitcher on the Mets Joseph
He's an Asian Linsic. His parents. I don't know if
it's because got to be racist. I don't know if
it's because I got two little kids that play sports.
But when I see them interview parents for any team.
When some kids making his debut in baseball as usually

(02:35):
when you see this the most and they go to
the parents in the stands, I get emotional. Call me
a little beach, but I get. I get I get
a little worked up when I see Jonah Toong's from Canada.
He say he's Canadian. Canadian, I said American, but he's not.
When you say Asian, I don't want people to assume
he's from Japan. His mom's a white woman, his dad's Asian, Yeah,

(02:57):
and he's from Canada. There's a little of everything this kid,
but he has a personality that isn't usually made for baseball,
meaning he's really fun. He looks like he's twelve years old.
He looks twelve and he smiles. He made He's very animated,
and his delivery is identical to Lensicum. He's not as wiry,

(03:19):
but solid, sturdy picture. His childhood dream came true even
though he looks like a child still. And he made
his debut, a successful debut for the Mets over the weekend.
So that was observation number one. Thought number two when
we get home early today is we're in for DP.
We're on the West coast, So we get home and
it's still like breakfast time. Kids are off from school.
When is it too early to start decorating for the fall.

(03:42):
I'm not hanging up skeletons and pumpkins, I'm not saying that,
but if you got little kids, when when's too early
to do that type of stuff? Never too early. When
you have kids, just and maximize it. Don't once you
want to build great memories for them and make it
festive for the kids. But I'm saying it's September for
It's like you can't be putting up like orang fall
stuff and you're hiring decorations out already. And I understand

(04:06):
if you have kids, because you're just trying to try
to busting out the rubber made bin of decorations is
a hassle and a hoff. So you want to have
it out as long as possible, just because you don't
feel like, I know, you know what, I feel like.
You just took it out. Now you got to put
it away. Don't want to do all that credit for
two weeks. If you're doing it for the kids, you
get prolong the process, all right, So then then you
know what, don't judge me if you see pumpkins on

(04:27):
my porch and like decorations and and fake leaves and stuff.
I'm not I'm not just maximizing.

Speaker 2 (04:34):
I know.

Speaker 1 (04:35):
Well, let's get to Tennis douche. This guy tennis douch
he's deservingly getting well, deservingly kind of sort of when
you hear the full, full story, you might change your mind.
Or he's just covering his tracks, or he's just covering
his tracks.

Speaker 3 (04:53):
Ah.

Speaker 1 (04:53):
Maybe so you saw the highlights. If you weren't watching
the US Open, you saw the highlights, and the highlights
were immediately like look at his d bag, look at
this guy. So there's a Polish tennis star named Camille Meijak,
and he's signing autographs, autographed hats, and he autographs a

(05:14):
hat and it looks like he's handing it to a kid,
and his grown adult jumps right in front of the
kid and steals it. And it was like, oh, you
see a little kid like ah, but I think it's
how emphatic his grab was.

Speaker 4 (05:30):
And then he just tosses it to his wife, who
stuffs it in a bag of things that are being signed.

Speaker 1 (05:34):
And apparently the guy that does this is a wealthy
businessman because again the web sleuths track him down. You
can't get away with this stuff anymore. They track him down, like, oh,
there he is. He's a CEO of this high end
Polish company. His name is Pete door Chezarek. Remember when

(05:55):
we were kids, Polish jokes are a thing and like
totally acceptable. Yeah, I feel like I bought a pole
joke book and like, maybe kids today are scared of
the dice Man, because yeah, comedy was way different back then. Right.
I'm convinced when I was a kid, I could be
making this up. But I feel like I bought dirty
joke books at school. Book fairs. Is that possible with

(06:16):
a whole Polish section. Yeah joke. I think I came
home from school with a Berenstein Bear's book and a
and a dirty joke book. I digress. So this Polish
guy who grew up with these jokes, Petr Schizerik, snatched
a hat from the boy at the US Open. He apologized,

(06:38):
made like a public apology first of all, because he
had to again. They tracked him down, they found out
who he was. Social media is trying to ruin his life.
He says, it's a necessary lesson in humanity. Do you
forgive him? The boss of a paving stone company, and
he believed that the tennis star, my jot Myjack was

(07:03):
signing the hat for him and he wanted to give
it to his son when he when he grabbed the hat.
So you do see him give it to his wife
or the woman with him, but he's saying that, yeah,
he was grabbing it for his kids, though, who I
guess are tennis fans. You know what that changes, He
says the story. I would like to unequivocally apologize to

(07:23):
the boy who was harmed, his family as well as
all the fans and the player himself. That's what this
guy wrote on Instagram. I made a serious mistake in
the emotions in the crowd's joy after the victory. I
was convinced that the tennis player was handing the cap
in my direction for my sons, who had earlier asked
for autographs. I forgive the guy then, right, it changes

(07:44):
the whole perspective. So that's when you know the rest
of the story. It's it's almost our general instinct to
just jump to conclusion. Hold on. I mean, in our defense,
that's what we saw, but it doesn't tell the full story.
He did snag a hat out of a little kid's way.
I didn't see him having kids, which was the big

(08:06):
I don't either big difference in what he's saying and
what he did. So if he really did have kids there,
it's like a SoundBite. You have to hear the whole
thing to make a true as session. That's the number
one pet peeve I have about creative editing could paint
a completely different picture and he was still in the wrong,
but knowing the rest of the story changes it for sure.
Sports social media, a lot of people get by on

(08:30):
pulling a clip of a bigger clip and We hear
it all the time here on Fox Sports Radio. You
hear it on ESPN and NBC and CBS everywhere where.
It's like, can you believe what Lebron said? And they
gave you one sentence of a five minute conversation. One
sentence could be taken completely out of context. And this

(08:53):
is a terrible look for this guy. But I also
don't believe the culture we live in now is awesome.
Where someone makes a mistake, they track him down and
try to ruin his life. Well, when you do stuff
like this, though, you are deemed the worst adult possible.
That in Disney adults, right, they're the worst. I know
what's worse the guy that snags the thing from the kid,

(09:15):
or the Disney adult or the or no, it's twarudst
the guy that is waiting in line ahead of your
kid to get his picture taken with a character. Get
a life, you loser, but you're grown up. You need
a picture. Hem an I legitimate excuse. And it does
change the story. And what makes this a crazy story
is that not only did it go viral in your algorithm,
you probably saw it over the weekend.

Speaker 5 (09:36):
I know I did.

Speaker 1 (09:36):
I watched a whole lot of us open. But I
saw this. He's an international villain, so of course he
has to go on an apology.

Speaker 5 (09:46):
Parade.

Speaker 1 (09:46):
An apology Hollywood Hogan, International Hollywood Hogan, meaning like, what
if he decided rest in peace, Hulkster, What if he's like,
I did it for my kids and I don't take
it back, brother, Like no, I think you when you
take accountability, that's when everyone gets off your back a
little bit. And I think that's great damage to go like, hey,

(10:09):
I made a big mistake. I'm sorry, but here's why.
And I always say that's a lesson learned in my
world from Andy Pettitt, who got away sort of Scott Free,
Scott the guy that gets away free all the time,
Scott free. When it came to his ped accusations. You
remember what he did, right, did he goes? Yeah? I did.
I did accountability and then he explained why because I

(10:30):
wanted to heal faster and return to the team, and
I thought that was the best solution. And you know what,
when you hear this story, they let them. They let
him off the hook. If if you if you think
about what people will do for their kids, I would
do anything for my kids. I take care, I'm not kids.
Maybe I want to push another kid out of the

(10:53):
way and grab something, but the reality is you're trying
to You're trying to snag a ball or snag something
at a game for your kid. You you will do
anything for your kids. So if this guy's saying that,
was it a snag, a stab, or a grab, as
Clinton Yates would say that that was a grab, Yeah,
I think. I think if we would have saw the

(11:15):
guy's kids in frame, you would have been like, oh,
he's sort of a douche, but hey, you know he's
it's his he's getting it for his kids. This to me,
without seeing his kids in the shot just looked like
what a loser. But you know what, the Polish tennis
star Camille Meijak, he doesn't react like if it was

(11:35):
for that kid, wouldn't he have been like hey, and
I was like, put his hands up or something.

Speaker 4 (11:39):
He was sorkind of half looking at who he was
handing things.

Speaker 1 (11:42):
But my point in bringing that up is, you know,
maybe he did mean to give it to that guy.
I'll tell you what. I was at a Mets game
at City Field over the summer with my kids. I
took him to their first Mets game at city, not
on the road, and what do you want to cookie?
There was a guy that like, in between innings, you

(12:03):
know how, it's like, you know, ground ball to Lindor
and the pee alonzo and in between ing's the first basemen.
Usually we'll just toss the ball over the net to
the first base line. Yeah, we were sitting right near
the Mets dugout first base line. Some big oaf like
collige at my wife went to get the ball and
everyone looked at this guy like you bumping into a
wife who's sitting next to my kid to grab a

(12:26):
ball of pee alonzo, big loser, And everyone looked at
this guy. My wife's convinced that this dude's date was
like ill like how gross? Give Like, how gross of
a grown man to like be pushing women and kids
out of the way for a ball. I'll never push
a kid out of the way for a ball. But
but there is a butt, and who doesn't like a

(12:47):
nice butt? Is it a big butt? Yes? If I
finally got a home run ball, even a ball tossed
to me, Yeah, let's say big g Jean Carlo stand
and tossed the ball to the outfield. I was the
one out of fifty five thousand people and I got it.

(13:07):
And there's some nose picking kid next to me. I'm
not giving it to him. No, I am not grind.
I have changed. I haven't changed my view on that.
So if you would have caught I wait, I was
that kid and I never got it. This was my moment.

Speaker 4 (13:20):
Wait, if you would have caught Will Smith's pinch it
walk off home run yesterday at Dodger Stadium and a
little kid.

Speaker 1 (13:26):
Was next to you, Will Smith, unless it was my kid,
unless it was a kid in my family, my nephew, godson,
my kid. I'm keeping it, dealing with it, keeping it
was my moment. But for what. But did I snag
it from the kid? That's there's a difference. No, this
was like if it was to me, I'm keeping it.
I'm not handing it.

Speaker 4 (13:42):
I know camera caught you nudging the kid a little bit.

Speaker 1 (13:46):
Well, yeah, by accident. Sorry, Radio. I've never caught I've
never caught a foul ball. I've never got one toss
to me. I never caught a home run ball. So
this is my one. Now that I got it out
of the way, and I got my one. You know
next time, Hey, here you go, nose pickle. There was
a great clip. Here you go, kid, get a great clip.

(14:07):
All this two clips I want to bring up. Do
you guys remember it had to be earlier this season
because we talked about it on our afternoon show. Some kid,
some kid had caught a home run and in the celebration,
like the guy next to him grabbed it out of
his glove and put in his pocket real quick. Oh yeah,
and it was caught on camera. So follow what I'm saying.
Some guy catches the ball and in the moment of celebrating,

(14:30):
the ball sort of trickles out of his glove. The
guy next to him grabs it, puts in his hoodie
pocket and then goes back to cheering as if he
doesn't have the ball. Everywhere was great. Hey, over the weekend,
I was telling you there's a story at City Field
where Gary keithan ron best in the game, even made

(14:50):
it a plant in their broadcast to mock this guy.
And I'm like, oh, I'm sure this guy didn't appreciate that.
Some dude, there's a foul ball and it looks like
he was fighting eating an old guy for the ball
with some like you know, yeah, but again misleading. This
guy's not that he's like my age. He just looks old.
He's not. This guy's not. This guy had to be
like seventy eighty or seventy. But like there was it

(15:12):
was like a boomer. There was a boomer generation, maybe
seventy this year old like our parents' age. Guy like
should have like scrambled around for a foul ball with
some young bearded like Dominican kid that and he grabs
the ball and like tugs it from him, and the
old guy's like should have a good He like sits

(15:34):
back down, and they broadcasters were like, oh, he took
the ball from the old guy. Oh what is he doing?
And that guy probably watched it later he's like, I'm
fifty five, not that old, but I'm still shocked. I
know there's a narrative that we're getting soft. Don't give
the kid the foul ball. But I always asked the adult.

(15:55):
I think so many people do quote unquote the right thing.
Give it to the kid because they know the cameras
are on them. No, And that's really why, because I
think here's what I'm telling you. I would not and
I would be like what I never call one my
thought book, go boo yourself. My thought is this, if
it's a ball, if it's an Aaron Judge home run
number sixty three when he beats Maris's record or whatever,

(16:18):
sixty two, if it's a five hundredth home run, if
it's a playoff winning home run, or something of significance
or value. Aaron Judge became top five over the weekend.
Yogi Barra all time Yankee home runs. What tough, tough
ive got you imagine when you're at that, Aaron Judge,

(16:40):
I get it. These are this is something a ball
of value. Oh it's a you know, cal Rawley's fiftieth.
You keep that it has value. But if Grisham hits
a pop up down the first base swaggy t yeah,
I'm keeping it. But again, I never got one. But
here's that's the story. But I got to ask, though, no,
for real, though, give what do you then do with

(17:02):
that ball? Because to me, to me, I have a
baseball in my sock drawer, why not? But to me
you take it out sniffing every once in a while.
So what the baseball? Yeah? Just you don't remind yourself
of the good old days? What yeah have it? I mean,
why do I have to do something with it? I
have it there in my drawer for real, But for

(17:23):
what that? I don't even know where I got. I
got one major league ball. But here's the question. If
you catch it? To me catching a foul ball, The
cool part of that is the actual action of catching
the ball. Once you catch, I can't I caught it.
What do you want a baseball for? What do you want?
Like to me? What is that? So? Then why do
you want the stupid hat? Why do you want anything?

Speaker 5 (17:43):
I hate your points? What do you want?

Speaker 1 (17:45):
Because if you do, you want anything? If you're a
tennis fan, it was a signed hat. So it's a baseball.
You can't use it. You can't you a base You
can't give it to someone in your family. You can't
have one on stand by in your trunk in case
you want to play a catch with your uncle. You
can't have a baseball. When was the last time? When
was the last time you got a spontaneous catch with

(18:05):
a ball you caught in a stadium? My brother? But
your thoughts on this, dude? Does the story change now
that you know he thought it was for him? The
autographed hat at the US Open and the fact that
he was going to give it to his kids, Does
that change your thought on it or not? Seven ninety
nine on Might a little bit. Now we're gonna play

(18:26):
a game a little bit, So if you want to in,
you want to play. The number is eight seven seven
nine nine on Fox. We compare Steve Covin over here
to Bill Belichick because they're both getting grumpier as time
goes on, and they both date significantly younger girlfriend's nave Jordan.

Speaker 4 (18:43):
And one one of them has a really big night tonight.
You have five chances to get too correct, Steve Covino
or Bill Belichick.

Speaker 1 (18:52):
You only have to bet four hundred to win this
game two out of five. That's it. What an easy
way to win a prize. So if you want in,
we'll play it next eight seven seven nine on Fox,
and we gotta talk lind Sanity. We have lots to
get to. Yeah, well, you know we'll touch on that
next real Quicklyn Sanity. He officially retired. Huh officially.

Speaker 5 (19:09):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (19:10):
Last time you probably saw him play was in twenty
nineteen when he was with the Raptors. That's when I
thought he retires. No, he wasn't officially retired. He was playing.
We're in Taiwan, China than Taiwan at the account, I
means professional basketball, just not in this country. Yeah, well
we'll get to that and a bunch of NFL. Like
I said, but if you want to play Cavino or Belchick,

(19:32):
we do that next right here. Fox Sports Radio Labor Day,

Congrats to Miami and to Florida's date Farida State.

Speaker 1 (21:02):
Don't take away.

Speaker 5 (21:04):
You know it's it's the QB is so fun to watch.

Speaker 1 (21:06):
Sometimes, you know it is Danny G. Sometimes when uh
someone loses, you don't really give credit to the winner.
You just mock the loser. Like I feel like the
narrative is like, oh man, Alabama and Congress State just
also played well, like you Oh yeah, that happens so often.
Congrats to Ryan Day's nipples. I don't know if you
saw them. They went viral over the weekend. One of

(21:27):
them did, one of them did. And there's an update.
By the way, if you're not familiar with nipplegate, his
nipples all over social media over the move over Janet Jackson,
that's a new nipplegate because I mean it was real,
like eraser tip geezuz. But they looked like there was
two one prominent piercings sticking out, like you had a
little barbell in there or something. I don't know what
you even call that, Rich, you would know, you're the expert.

(21:50):
What is Rich Davis and Ryan Day have in common?
You think I have a get out of here. But look,
the update is that we were all duped. It was
like a fake photo that went viral somebody doctor Yeah
you know, yeah, yeah, totally fakes. So you can never
believe anything that being said. We're Cavino and Rich. We're
gonna talk insanity, but first we have a game to play.

(22:11):
All right, This is a game, Steve. When Bill Belichick
has some things in common. Bill Belichick's the man. They
both have younger girlfriends named Jordan the man if that
was my daughter. Both have a powerful presence in the
sports world. We're harder, so you can do that when
you're seventy two.

Speaker 6 (22:28):
You tell us is it's Steve Cavino or Bill Sella check.

Speaker 1 (22:33):
I'm not mad at him at all. I want to
know what it is, all right.

Speaker 4 (22:39):
What started from Rich's late night edible mind has turned
into a fun on air game I've put together from
time to time. What better day to play than on
Belichick's debut for UNC versus TCU tonight.

Speaker 1 (22:50):
Dude, what a cool week? Right, you got NFL start
and you got this game tonight, like so much look
forward to baseball? He eating out. I heard some buffoons
talking about, like, what are they gonna show Jordan tonight
on the sidelines. I was like, yeah, Bill Belichick's Jordan.
If she's there, why would they not show her. She's

(23:11):
part of the Bill Belichick story at UNC like to
not show Well, he's the storyline. She's definitely part of it.
But he's the storyline.

Speaker 4 (23:20):
All right, We're gonna get our contestant on the studio
line and then I'll explain the game real quick. You
know what, Covino, I'll use you for this, since you're
the man in the moment, would you love to travel too,
beautiful Gainesville, Florida, Medford, Oregon, Las Vegas, Nevada, Memphis, Tennessee.
Or Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.

Speaker 1 (23:37):
Oh, Kitty Hawk.

Speaker 5 (23:38):
Huh hm.

Speaker 1 (23:40):
You know what, I'm working on my Gaines So I
want to go to Gainesville. That's Mike, Yeah, Gainesville, Mike
in Florida.

Speaker 3 (23:47):
Mike, Yeah, A good choice.

Speaker 4 (23:50):
Guys, this morning, Happy Labor Day. What do you do
for a living there in Florida.

Speaker 1 (23:54):
Well, I'm a retired school teacher of thirty five years.

Speaker 5 (23:57):
Oh nice man, All right, here's go for it.

Speaker 3 (24:01):
I don't want to ask you. Did the kid give
him that hat to sign or would he just have
a bunch of hats here in the sign?

Speaker 1 (24:08):
That's a great question. I think he had hats. He
was signed, right, so.

Speaker 6 (24:13):
But still that that man knew the kid, he was
shopping in front of the kid and grabbing the hat,
you know.

Speaker 1 (24:20):
I can't know. It was a bad look for sure,
And and how aggressively he snagged the hat that us
open story.

Speaker 4 (24:28):
Well, anyway, Mikey, here's how the game works. Covino or Belichick.
I've done extensive research on both coach and Covino and
their young girlfriends. Rich and I are going to trade
off reading a fun factor. Then you've got to tell
us is it Steve Covino or Bill Belichick? You have
five chances to get too correct, and then you win
a CNR and nerve football.

Speaker 5 (24:49):
Okay, it is Cabino, though we have been ready.

Speaker 1 (24:52):
We don't know.

Speaker 5 (24:53):
We don't know one of the other. Okay, Rich is
going to read the first fun all.

Speaker 1 (24:57):
Right, now? Is this Covino or Belichick? His Jordan simultaneously
enrolled in cosmetology school and commuted daily while balancing her academics. Cavino, No, sorry,
that's Belichick. Jordan Jordanside. However, my Jordan has become a

(25:18):
certified pilates instructor in the past like months, so close.

Speaker 5 (25:21):
So you guys are almost close.

Speaker 1 (25:25):
Mike. You know how I came up with this game,
truth be told. I was on a little vacation with
my wife, Grandma had the kids. I was on the
beach and I had an edible and I happen to
be scrolling on Instagram and I saw Covino on the
beach with his girlfriend doing something ridiculous, And the next
girl was Belichick on the beach doing like Pilates on
the beach or something. I'm like, oh my god, Cavino

(25:46):
and Belichick the same guy, Yeah, except where not we
just date women named Jordan. Who's the young guy. The
same guy, but yeah, no, different beach. But think about that.
He's like, yeah, a big game tonight, you know a
lot of And she's like, I got cosmic ptology school later.
What a contrast, right, Danny.

Speaker 4 (26:05):
Yeah, I'm gonna read the second fun fact here, but
his Jordan has gotten the couple's dog booked for several
national ad campaigns. Covino or Belichick.

Speaker 1 (26:16):
Yes, that's right. My dog, my dog theo brings home
more money than anybody in the house. I'm not even joking.
He's like a little circus dog and he's actually got
several national gigs where he's like a little dog model actor.
It's so funny. Covino's like a stage He's a stage
dog dad. It's crazy. All right, I even care. I'm

(26:39):
not making that up.

Speaker 4 (26:40):
Mike is halfway to a CNR prize. Rich back to
you for the third fun fact.

Speaker 1 (26:44):
All right, is it Covino or Belichick his job. Third one, Yeah,
oh oh, this is not always just about Jordan. No,
it's okayat like you've never played, you know? Or Belichick? Okay,
he first met John bon Jovi while working in New York.

(27:04):
Covino or Belichick Carina, No, yeah, I've worked in rock.
I'm not sure I ever met John bon Jovi. Yeah,
that's why I thought it was going to be You
thought too. I would have got that one wrong, and
I'm from Jersey, never met the guy.

Speaker 4 (27:22):
All right, well, you have two more chances to get
one correct to be a winner, Mike. Here's the fourth
fun fact. He was fired from a job in nineteen
ninety five, but it did not deter him from his dream.
Covino or Belichick.

Speaker 3 (27:36):
Got sick it. Look it looks like Belichick, but I'm
Bryan wrong Belichick.

Speaker 2 (27:41):
Belichick is yes, right in your winner congratulations that is
too correct.

Speaker 4 (27:46):
That means you win a CNR prize.

Speaker 5 (27:50):
Just like that.

Speaker 1 (27:51):
We have IOUs which are just as good as money.
So we've had bribery balls before in ner footballs, then
Swiggy Stando stel water Bomb. Now we're heading into football
season again. So we got brand newt nerve Football's inventories
coming in, so we owe you one. We're throwing some
coozies and all that stuff. Again, just trying to brib
people to listen to our show. So thank you, Mike. Congrats.
We appreciate you.

Speaker 5 (28:12):
Mike, thank you.

Speaker 1 (28:14):
But then again, you know, I think that could have
been either one of you. Up. Did you get fired
from Bennigan's in nineteen ninety five or I was never
never fired from Bennigans Never I did work at Bennegan's.
You get fired, you ever get fired. I was let
go because of COVID if you count that firing, but
like fired like not like well you're like like Vinceric Van,

(28:34):
like Vince Rick Van or Donald Trump like you fired?
Never no U now again. Grew up New Jersey, never
met bon Jovi. We built our careers in New York.
Rich Davis worked at Z one hundred and I was
driving the van at k Rock New York and just
trying to get on the air and was doing weekends
and all that stuff. We joined forces years ago, and

(28:58):
in the early two thousands, you and I were doing
the Cavino and Rich show. Yeah it's serious just the
time at the time, but it was not even x
Semi just serious satellite radio, and we were working with
Maxim Radio. Remember when magazines were a thing, Maxim We
were doing Maxim in the year two. Thous Man, do

(29:19):
you know exactly what year this was? No, but you
were wearing boot cut jeans. I'm sure you were probably
wearing some Affliction T shirt button down from Men's Express
or Structure. I'm not sure what it was at that time.
I think it was Men's Express. You were rocking a
suite Affliction graphic T or something. Maybe it wasn't that

(29:39):
long ago, because I'm looking twenty twelve, I feel like
it was before that.

Speaker 4 (29:42):
It started on February fourth, twenty twelve. Wow, really it
feels it felt like the Middle Way. But I'm sure
Rich was still rocking that.

Speaker 1 (29:52):
And Insanity began and we were in New York for it,
So please trust our perspective. Yeah, when you know, when
you when you think of the Knicks, I feel like,
as a kid, if you grew up in the eighties
and nineties, it was about Ewing and Starks and Anthony
Mason and in that cast of amazing characters, then there
you know Latrell Spree, Well, you had your different you

(30:13):
would say, like iteration of the Knicks and eras. Now,
there was a point where there wasn't really that much
to cheer for with the New York Knicks. And I
just remember when Jeremy Lynn made his debut and linsanity

(30:33):
took over New York. It's hard to explain. And I
remember the backstory he was living on his friend's couch
and all that. Everything from the backstory to linsanity itself
was unbelievable. It's very hard to like Minshew mania when
Gardner Minshew wasn't. That was like a hot minute where
this guy's doing way better than they thought. It's hard

(30:53):
to compare someone coming out of nowhere the way Jeremy
Lyn did well. It was, you know when they talk
abut the zone, being in the zone in sports, it
was a guy playing at the true height of his
potential because he just was in the zone. Is when
your confidence just reaches its total peak. As the kids
would say, you're just peaking at the best time, your

(31:15):
total peak. It was two years, two weeks out of
nine years that he played in the NBA, two weeks
of high level insanity, insanity basketball where we saw him
going head to head with your.

Speaker 4 (31:30):
Boy Kobe Bryant, like, this was no fluke. He outd
to average twenty five points.

Speaker 1 (31:35):
And the point is like, yeah, it was short lived,
but not really. He still had a nice career. He
want to ring with Toronto and everything. He had nice
a solid career. I think he averaged almost ten points
per game when you look back at his stats nine
years in the league. That two weeks was the most legitimate,
you could say, fluke I've ever seen, because it was real.

(31:59):
We lived the hype. I'll tell you this, The hype
was real. It was excitement at the garden like we
hadn't seen in years. Rich is right about that. All
your friends were talking about it. You couldn't escape the
highlights on Sports Center. And I just want to say,
like being there in the city for that buzz and
that excitement and just people walking down the street looking

(32:20):
at each other like are you watching this? Like we
all knew that we were experiencing something together. And I'll
never forget it. And even though it may seem like
a flash in the pan, he played nine years and
it was legitimate. It was awesome to witness. And I
tip my Yankee hat to the insanity that we got
to experience. It's it's definitely worth mentioning lin sanity on

(32:40):
the day he officially retires from the NBA. He retired
officially this week this weekend. Jeremy Lynn, thank you for
a couple of weeks of insanity that was like a
pop culture phenomenon, and then again won an NBA title.
Didn't play, but won an NBA title with It's like
when people criticize one hit wonders, It's like, yeah, they
may have had one hit, but they had a great
career and one hit more than you'll ever sniff. So

(33:05):
it's like you try to dump on that moment. It's like, yo,
yeah he had a moment. He also had a nine
year career. So so that's why I like, you don't
want to minimize an undermine that. Let me never do
that again. But how many people will play a career
and never have that. Let me let me pose a
question for you. Sure, I'm sorry it was lindsaying, let
me pose a question. We could wrap with all four sports. Oh,

(33:29):
we could add a hot dog, gidey, okay, fager sport,
any sport you want to bring up. I'm fine with.
They could be a fighter because I feel like maybe
maybe either a I happen to just root for teams
who have these stories, or you only can remember the
ones on your teams. I'm talking about the player that

(33:53):
sort of came out of nowhere and way exceeded expectations,
like Jeremy Lynn, like he said, sleeping on his friends
calch And no one ever thought Jeremy Lynn would turn
out to this because I have two examples and they
both happen to be teams I root for, so again,
it might be one of those you remember them more
when they your team. But Jacob de Gram was a
spot starter. He played shortstop in college and early minor

(34:19):
league days. Jacob de Gram was not supposed to be
a multi cy Young Award winner, one of the greatest
pitchers of the last twenty years. That was not what
we thought. And as a Niners fan, though Niners whiffed
on Trey Lance Brock perty was mister irrelevant And now
he's making fifty million dollars a year. Can you think

(34:42):
of anyone else that you're like, well, that wasn't so sad,
But Jeremy Lynn's story even more specials It was not
expect it was unassuming. He's like, what Jeremy Lynn is
this dude, this guy he's schooling Kobe Bryant here in
this moment again. Retired at thirty seven, and you're thinking, again,
I haven't seen him playing years. He stopped in twenty
nineteen with the Raptors when they won that championship with

(35:06):
the quadruple doink. I mean, the only other person in
PLG last year to Taiwanese. Professionally that counts, but it doesn't.
So yeah, you know what this is, like, short but
impactful runs. I thought of besides de gram Or, like
I said, Perdy, like wow, that guy that came out
of nowhere. I mean, he was good, but you can't

(35:28):
imagine that anyone that roots for the Twins. When they
let David Ortiz go, they never thought he'd turned into
a big poppy for Boston because he played for Minnesota
and was like, right.

Speaker 4 (35:40):
How about players like Nick Foles? Nobody expected that falls
won a Super Bowl? And yeah, and for my favorite team,
the Raiders. Darren Waller was a practice squad player for
the Ravens and then turned out to be one of
the best tight ends in all of football.

Speaker 1 (35:54):
And here's my point, at least that I want to
leave with is. All of these moments are great, and
we all have our own memories of him, but I
think the beacon of all of them was Insanity because
he really took the world by storm. We had never
seen anything like it. You can't discredit the fact that
it was unassuming, Like we've never seen an Asian dude

(36:14):
light it up like that in the NBA. That was
all part of it, right.

Speaker 5 (36:18):
Covid was like he was channeling Michael Jordan for a
ten game.

Speaker 1 (36:21):
Stretch without It was like he was playing outside of himself,
right outside of his own body, out of boud the experience,
Like even he didn't know what was going on, but
he was just in such a zone that it was.
It took the world by storm, not just New York,
but we were there to witness it in New York
and we say, congrats on a solid career nine years.
But that impactful, those impactful two weeks. It's so funny

(36:43):
how we look back. It was only two weeks. It
was only two weeks. Just like when you look back,
you're like, wait, Notorious Big only had two albums. Yeah,
he only had two albums, but they were impactful. Yeah,
Neirvana was only around for a couple of years. Those
only were around for how many years? Impactful? Packful? That
a nine year career, but those two weeks defined everything

(37:05):
for that dude, and props to him, your your thoughts
and feedback will take it next. Covino rich In for
Dan Patrick Labor Day Fox Sports Radio.

very least, please check out our YouTube stream and our
page and our bonus podcast us there you can watch.
It's like a TV show called over Promised. It's on
Covino and Rich FSR on YouTube. Coveno and Rich CoV
I know and Rich FSR on YouTube right now, live
from the Fox Sports Radio studio. Still driving that trusty

(38:04):
old ride, Rich, keep you looking sharp with Mako from
dense to faded paint. They got you covered with a
pre estimate today. Uh oh, better get Mako. And this
past week's over promise might have been one of our
funniest ones yet. And again it's very completely uncensored. It's
on YouTube, so there's no restrictions, and it's on sports
in the bedroom. It's weird. We got a little funny

(38:26):
in sports and politics. So where we get your YouTube stuff?
On your TV, on your phone, whatever, Just again search
the new Covino on Rich Fox Sports Radio YouTube page.
And right now, let's take a couple quickie phone calls.
I was saying, there's players that come out of nowhere,
because you were saying Jeremy Lynn retired over the weekend
and Linsanity for those few weeks in New York, nothing

(38:48):
was like it back in the twenty tens. It was electric.
It was so fun. Everyone loved the story. People were
trying to go to Medical Square Garden. Tickets were expensive.
You wanted to see it. And again flashing the pan,
but it was legitimate, it was awesome, it was real.
People like to pooh pooh the fact that it was
maybe a flash in the pan. He had a nine
year career, but that moment was real. And the other

(39:11):
examples I thought of, like players coming out of nowhere,
I said, Rock Perdy. No one thought that for the Niners.
Jacob de Gram on the Mets was a you know,
spots starter ends up being multiple Cy Young Award winner.
Let's say, had a Robin Queens, rob what's.

Speaker 3 (39:27):
Up in hey, man?

Speaker 1 (39:29):
Guys?

Speaker 3 (39:29):
Great? Here on you in the morning on Labor Day.

Speaker 1 (39:31):
Man, Thanks Bud, great Robbie. I mean you you're in Queens,
you were there. Insanity was real, right, I mean.

Speaker 3 (39:36):
That Sandy was a real thing. Man, it was. I
didn't know was that shorter run though I thought it
was a bit longer, but it was a big lot. Yeah.
Another one I'm thinking about. I'm going back to nineteen
seventy six Mark to bird Fidric. He had that one
great year seventy sixteen injuries where the rest of his.

Speaker 1 (39:55):
Career, you know, before I was born. But when you
talk about guys, that's another one. When you talk about
guys that had one great year and then you're almost
like what happened or like maybe they just lightning in
a bottle, And again you say what happened, as if
it was a bad thing, right, what happened? How about
the positive spin on? Is like they were in a

(40:16):
zone that was hard to It was hard to do again,
it was hard to thinking, hard to replicate, replicate, replicate,
recapture or whatever. Like you're playing against your own zone
at that point. I'm hard to I create that. I
hate to give you another met but you guys remember
ri A Dickey won a Cy Young, a knuckleballer who

(40:37):
was a good picture for the Blue Jays, the mets
On five that one year was in the zone couldn't
get hit. Yeah, and what happened to him? He was
in the zone that he was good. But that was
the that was the unrealistic part of the story.

Speaker 6 (40:51):
Ari.

Speaker 1 (40:53):
Let's go to Jim and I well, what's up, Jim.

Speaker 3 (40:56):
Hey Man, thanks for taking my call, No problem.

Speaker 1 (40:59):
Kurt Warner, Yeah, God.

Speaker 3 (41:02):
And maybe it's three joke because I'm from northern Iowa,
But I mean when he oh, is it ninety nine
or two.

Speaker 1 (41:08):
Thousand, dude, I mean he had a great he had
a great career. But the simple fact that I know
you're saying, come out of nowhere because everyone loves you've
seen the movie. The story of stuck in shelves at
a supermarket. Then he wins a super Bowl two years later.
So it's a great story. You my my two picks
for NFL Week one. Man, you know what, by the

(41:29):
way countdowns on Football on Thursday, pumped about it, Like
I said, great week, short work week, you got NFL
to look forward to. What are your picks before we go?
My picks before we go? Of course you get to
say Homer pick. But I think the forty nine Ers
are so downplayed. I know the games in Seattle. We're going,
we'll get into this moorro in our afternoon till later

(41:49):
in the week. But there are two and a half
point favorite over Seattle. And if you don't think rock
Pridy Kittle a healthy McCaffrey, if you don't think this
team could beat the Hawks Week one by a field goal,
I love I love the forty nine Ers in that game,
and I love the Lions on the road. Everyone because
of the Packers are two and a half point favorites.

(42:09):
I like the Lions. I think the Lions are just
still a better team. Micah Parsons, who knows how that's
impactful Week one? So I sort of like the Lions,
and there's plenty of other games I like as well,
but we'll get to more football this week on our show.
Thank you Dan Patrick. We'll see you guys later. Are
we be there to you babies? See you tomorrow five
pm on the East. We'll see you in the Promised

(42:30):
Land later
