rankings to starts and sits. The guys help you make
those hard decisions. And now let's get your flex sod.
Here's Dan Bayer and Mike Harmon.
Speaker 3 (00:33):
It is week one of the National Football League twenty
twenty five campaign.
Speaker 4 (00:38):
Get Mike at Swollen Dome.
Speaker 3 (00:39):
You can find me at Dan Byer on Fox find
Ian Roddy, Ian is it at Ian Underscore Roddy, and
then Blue Sky is Ian Roddy Underscore.
Speaker 4 (00:48):
Other way around, other way, Yeah around, Ian Roddy Underscore
is x.
Speaker 5 (00:52):
Yeah, ex I have the little tail, Yeah, scoring a
little tail.
Speaker 4 (00:55):
And then yeah blues.
Speaker 3 (00:57):
Hey that's right, because we last year our main theme
was getting Ian on Blue Sky and then we found
out that there was already somebody who claimed Ian Roddy
before Ian Roddy could do. So, hey, we are a
social media giant. Here on I Want your Flex. You
can find Mike on Blue Sky at Mike Carmen and
me and Dan Beyer. It is great to have you
with us and Mike, it is finally here. Week one,
(01:18):
full slate of games. We've waited seven months for this,
but it's finally arrived.
Speaker 2 (01:22):
Yeah, amazing that the time seems to It's like raising kids, right,
you know, day to day it's a chore, but then
all of a sudden you blink and it's like, wow,
that's seven eight months gone. I mean that Super Bowl
long in the rear view mirror and already eyes towards
Levis Stadium and Gear Deli Chocolate and all the chaos
that's ensuing there in the greater San Francisco area. But
(01:43):
a lot of football to be done in between, and
we get it started off with some heavyweights in Week one.
Speaker 3 (01:50):
I'm just going to say this, and then we're going
to get into the rankings. I saw a graphic put
out by the NFL's site in Australia and New Zealand,
and we've seen those graphics where they they will have
each player represented representing one team, one player from each team,
like they're walking towards the goal, and this one is
they were walking towards the Golden gate Bridge, like about
(02:11):
to walk across the Golden gate Bridge trying to get
Vince Lombardi's trophy. The two great things about that, because
we all know San Francisco and we all know where
Santa Clara is. They did have a mileage sign that
said Levi Stadium seventy five kilometers, so like, yeah, it's
not even close. But what they also did was they
(02:32):
replaced NFL stars with some of the homegrown talent of
Australia and New Zealand. So you had Jordan Milatta in
the Eagles uniform instead of Saquon Barkley or Jalen Hurts.
The Seahawks had Michael Dixon their punter, who's from Australia,
so there was no Sam Darnold or Kenneth Walker or
(02:53):
anything like that. I thought it was a really cool graphic.
But I love how how far away they acknowledged that's
San Francisco was from Santa Clara, kind of like how
far away these thirty two teams are as we sit
in week one.
Speaker 2 (03:06):
Well they also putting it in kilometers.
Speaker 4 (03:09):
Yes, a beautiful thing, but it.
Speaker 2 (03:11):
Also has a very game show appeal to it all.
As we go through right trying to figure it out.
I was watching the old Roy Kent clip from Ted Last,
so I got two for you here. First, they asked
him about a seventeen year old who's making his first premiere,
you know, appearance, and they go, well, what are you expecting,
and the other guys get you know, bloviate about dominating performances,
(03:33):
and he just goes, we don't know, no idea. I
probably had, you know, his his meal and you know stuff.
I can't stay on here, and then he just says,
we just don't know we want and then at halftime
we're going to complain that they didn't do what we
wanted him to do. So I think, you know, that's
where we're getting ready to and our punditry for this
(03:54):
season ahead.
Speaker 5 (03:56):
After knowing Roy Kent. There are a lot of expletives
in there. I'm sure there were a he apreciated.
Speaker 2 (04:01):
I'm sure yeah. And he got kind of weepy because
he started thinking about, you know, what he wanted to do,
and he immediately takes the microphone off and leaves the
set and goes to the pitch and all of that stuff.
Jory begins his coaching journey. But the other thing and
Dan you know, you and I have been doing these
shows and podcasts together for a very long time. As
we sit down getting ready for Week one of this
(04:22):
NFL season, it is Thursday. It is the fifty third
anniversary of the first episode of The Price is Right.
Speaker 3 (04:30):
All right, so let's go. All right, let's do it.
Come on down, let's get the quarterbacks. For those that
haven't listened to our podcast before. First of all, welcome in. Second,
we're gonna give your rankings. We're gonna give you top five.
Mike's got his rankings that he submits to the various
fantasy outlets in this vast fantasy world, his personal rankings
at the quarterback, running back, a wide receiver position. Then
(04:53):
we take a little time out and we come back
with the guys that you want in your lineup, that
you don't want in your lineup that may not be
in those top fives. Ian and I will wrap up
the podcast with some of our wacky and wild information
like streaming defenses and survivor picks.
Speaker 4 (05:06):
So let's get into it.
Speaker 3 (05:07):
Mike, harmon your top five quarterbacks for Week one of
the NFL season.
Speaker 2 (05:12):
I'm feeling all chalky and well, I mean, you could
say pasty because I don't see the sun a lot
during the fall with football season, so we's go right
off the top with the matchup. I don't know that
why we have it for week one, but schedule complaints
are another time. Josh Allen going up against Baltimore is
over under for the week about two hundred and thirty
five passing yards, add another thirty on the ground. Looking
(05:32):
for him to be a big factor in that aspect
of the game. Com pairing with James Cook early on.
But this one has a fifty and a half total.
So number three on the list is Lamar Jackson. Some
of those numbers that I read off for Allen are
kind of mirrored in the prop bets as you get
into Week one. Sandwiched in between there Joe Burrow, because
(05:52):
we've joked about it on the show. I've certainly done
it a lot. There's no defense being played here. It's
all a matter of how many points you can and outlast.
And I'm really hoping it's a throwback to two thousand
and seven. Remember more Derek Anderson and those guys were
singing around and we got into the mid forties. Maybe
we could do that here. Maybe more on Joe Flacco
later on, but give me Joe Burrow there in the
(06:12):
number two spot. Bo Nick's going up against Tennessee opportunity
here spreading the ball around to the wide receiving corps
and they've got a nice compliment in the backfield. Last
year he finished top twelve in terms of passing yards.
Looking for them to get off on a big spot
to open up the season, and then I'd be remiss
if I didn't give a little love to Baker Mayfield,
(06:34):
a guy that will talk a lot about for fantasy
purposes over the course of the year. But against that
Atlanta defense one of the more intriguing games of the
weekend to me as we get ready for the Michael
Pennix junior era of all of this over under sitting
at forty seven, he's got a depleted receiving corps, but
enough guys and enough names that you know to make
(06:55):
some big plays down field. Combine that with the running
of Bucky and you've got yourself a winning formula. So
there's your top five.
Speaker 4 (07:03):
I love it. The Sunday Night affair.
Speaker 3 (07:05):
You know, the NFL loves to bring a dandy in
and right now that Alan and Lamar Jackson showdown in
Buffalo is the highest point total that we've got for
the over unders at the quarterback position. Let's jump into
the running backs. Mike the top ball carriers for week one.
Speaker 2 (07:22):
Well, coming off of the huge second half that he have.
Let's go back into that Atlanta in Tampa Bay game
and give our love to Bijon Robinson. Everybody pushed him
to the top of their draft boards. You look at
fairly pedestrian efforts on the ground last year against Tampa,
but that was when he was on a bit of
a restriction in terms of his touchcount. Became a bigger
(07:43):
factor in the passing game their second meeting, but then
you watched his touchcount down the stretch grow. Looking for
a big, big workload from him in this one and
a game again, I think that we're gonna get some fireworks.
Derek Henry going against against Buffalo seventh straight double digital
touchdown season. We've done the season longs thing. But what's
(08:03):
while he's up and ready to move, will we'll use
him and get him into our lineup? UH as a
top tier play on the rankings. UH. What's interesting is
overall we'll watch the roller coaster that has been for
his career the last uh several years. Bucky Irving, Uh,
the aforementioned five point four yards per carry a year ago,
a little bit of work in the passing game. He's
(08:25):
got a better better odds guys for for this game
to score a touchdown in the betting market than b
John Robinson does. How about that a little tidbit for
you there. Uh. And then we got Jamier Gibbs going
up against Green Bay looking for a huge total yard effort.
Here his props when you look at the receiving total,
that that's where he's gonna make his hay in this game,
(08:48):
in the screen game and go. And then finally a
guy that we love, love love, it's it's Chase Brown
going up against Cleveland again looking for fireworks uh in
that one, and for that offense to even behind a
depleted and bad offensive line. Guess what he performed last
year and they were equally deplorable. His over under for
(09:09):
total yards is sitting at about eighty eight for the game,
and he's got a pretty good shot at finding Peter.
Speaker 3 (09:16):
I give kudos to everybody who who out there is
playing fantasy football.
Speaker 4 (09:19):
I love Chase Brown as well. You love him this week.
Speaker 3 (09:22):
I feel that his value is appropriate in a lot
of the rankings and drafts that we have seen. And
maybe it's more about the Bengals defense that we are
all south on, but I feel that a lot of
fantasy owners have done a great job in giving the
real value of Chase Brown heading into the season.
Speaker 2 (09:39):
Well, you got to recognize what he did down the
second half, right, We talked about him a lot, Dan
and certainly in the offseason. I'm still worried about the
offensive line overall and what that means short yardage wise,
that if he loses some of the potential glory touches there,
that they've got to get creative. But as an a
depth out of the backfield, then you'll have the opportunity
(10:03):
to make some plays there and still find they find
the paint of grass.
Speaker 3 (10:07):
There are your top five running backs in the NFL.
And that alert that you just heard is some news
in the NFL at the time of this recording, Amari
Cooper has decided to retire.
Speaker 4 (10:17):
How about that?
Speaker 3 (10:18):
Yeah, So so I don't I didn't think we were
going to have Amari Cooper as a Raider in their
matchup against the Patriots, in the top five. But if
you have them on your team, you may not want
him anymore because he's decided to call it quits.
Speaker 2 (10:29):
I think I have to throw everything you know back.
We'll just have to revisit now. I was eager, you know,
if for nothing else, you know, you can go through
the old Commons boxes and football cards that have been
sitting there, and you can just recycle the old Amari
Cooper Raider card, yes, or your old jersey that was
sitting in a closet.
Speaker 4 (10:46):
It's what I was thinking.
Speaker 3 (10:47):
The guy who still had the old one was feeling
good for a couple of weeks and then yes, now
no longer. Oh well, anyway, will there be a Raider
in our top five wide receivers that isn't Amari Cooper.
Let's fight down Mike Carmen's top five wide receivers for
Week one.
Speaker 2 (11:04):
I forget who I'm quoting from TV and film. Oh
hell no, Jamar Chase off the jump. Eighty four and
a half is his total for this one. Again, we're
talking about Operation Domination a year ago, looking for that
to continue. The best receiver going Nico Collins very high
on him. Look, he doesn't have to try to slow
down Jared Verse. He just has to get open in
(11:26):
the secondary and opportunity. Knox a little worried about that
O line and what it means for CJ. Stroud here,
But we've seen the target count be rising week to week,
particularly because you don't really have a settled number two
in depth there in the Houston receiving Corps at the moment.
My Lak neighbors one hundred and seventy targets a year ago,
(11:47):
and now you've got the moon Ball. The vaunted moon
Ball finds its way into the Giants repertoire. Last year
nineteen catches on twenty nine targets in the two games
against the Commanders. Look for more fireworks. Brian and Thomas
cracks the list. Yeah, that's right, I'm gonna buy into
Liam Cohen. But just like Malik neighbors a guy who
put up huge numbers, it's the old We can find it,
(12:08):
even with a decal you don't necessarily like on the
side of the helmet. We can find our numbers. Curious
to see how much the arrival of Travis Hunter helps
in the process of orchestrating this offense. But some ingenuity,
and this is it for Trevor Lawrence. Otherwise you know,
I'm selling all my stock. And then finally I'm gonna
go Mike Evans going against Atlanta. Going back to the
(12:31):
Baker Mayfield analysis from earlier, Steady as she goes he
took on the Tom Brady TB twelve diet. I'm trying
to do that too. I'm trying to get lean and
mean to extend my career. But for Mike Evans down
there in Tampa, they've just been raving about what he
was able to do all off season in the chemistry
he's got with Baker. So let's put it on display
(12:51):
here against Atlanta. Yes, I know Justin Jefferson didn't make
the list. I have many questions about that mon Monday
night game. I'm n raw Sam Brown also right there.
So there's your magnificent seven. But you know, before I
started getting the hate mail at Swollen Dome, might as
well mention Justin Jefferson.
Speaker 3 (13:08):
I will say this as well, that Mike Evans is
number five. I think that there's such a prime opportunity
because of how dinged up the Buccaneers are in that
wide receiver room, and while Mecha Buka is getting rave
reviews for his training camp. Still a rookie, so count
on the reliable Evans. And I think a lot of
people have the questions about the Vikings and Justin Jefferson
(13:30):
maybe not so much about him, but the guy who's
throwing him the football. So I can see reason why
he would maybe not be in that top five.
Speaker 2 (13:37):
Yeah, just that curiosity Monday night as that's a grab
the popcorn and we may get some answers to many
of the offseason questions.
Speaker 4 (13:46):
There.
Speaker 3 (13:46):
It is your top five players at the quarterback, running back,
in wide receiver position from Mike Carmen. We now dive
a little deeper after this timeout where Mike gives you
or hot blaze, cold sores and ninjas guys that didn't
make the top five but you should get in your
lineup for Week one, or some that should just stay away.
He's Ian Roddy, that's Mike Carmen. I'm Dan Byer. This
is I want your flex.
Speaker 4 (14:08):
Now. This is where the fun begins.
Speaker 3 (14:09):
Hot plays, cold sores, and then just the hot place
guys you got in you gotta get in your lineup,
cold sores, the ones that you want to stay away from.
You don't want to look at you want nothing to
do with, and then the Ninjas sort of the steaky place, Mike.
Let's start up with the hot plays guys you should
have in your lineup for week one.
Speaker 2 (14:23):
Well, le's to go with the triplet's at the quarterback position.
Let's start with Drake May going up against Las Vegas.
The reason he gets over the top here is his
ability to make plays with his legs. He's over under
for rushing yards guys twenty nine and a half, so
we're getting a three point bonus right off the jump here.
Part of that is running for your life from match Crosby.
I think it is a nice motivating factor for you there.
(14:45):
I mentioned Trevor Lawrence before. Let's get back to him
against Carolina to forty the total for him here, looking
just see what this offense truly becomes a lot of
great reviews of the offseason and the Drydent thing. I
know going got off to the bad start with his duval,
but we move forward because eventually it's can you coach
(15:07):
and coach the best out of guys. We saw success
in his prior stop. Let's look forward to happen here
in Week one against Carolina and then a little bit
of a price shot ian for you justin fields back
in QB one, high end QB two, and the rankings
say it, But I don't think when it comes to
the toggle of sit or start many people are going
(15:28):
to be have the guts to put it in the
start position given the thirty eight total that we're looking
at for this game. But again, his rushing total forty
two and.
Speaker 6 (15:38):
A half yards, that's why you start them. That's it right,
Look it for some explosiveness there. Rushing that's it. One
seventy three and a half the total for his passing.
Just to give it some clarity there.
Speaker 2 (15:50):
So how about James Connor going up against New Orleans
opportunity here, He's got a pretty hefty number associated with
the opportunity to score greater and sixty percent according to
some online shops. Chuba Hubbard one of my favorites, going
up against Jacksonville, an underrated performer in twenty twenty four.
Look for the repeat as Canalis year two gets underway
(16:15):
and as they try to figure out the receiving corps.
More on that in a minute. Chuba Hubbard will take
on a big workload here in week one and then
Josh Jacobs going up in the game between the Lions
and the Packers forty seven. As you're total there but
one of the heroes from last year and a team
that is destined for Baron bringing in Micah Parsons whatever
(16:37):
he's able to do. For week one, you got to
figure the defense takes a ramp up, which means, hey,
we can play more to the ball control and work
with Jacobs to set up things for Jordan Love downfield. Finally,
three wide receivers. I mentioned the receiving core for Carolina.
How about Ted McMillan going up against Jacksonville. Felan's gone
back to Minnesota, so there's a lot of targets to
(16:59):
be had there to change it out. Jackson Smith and
Jigba against San Francisco the last time they met, ten
catches on eleven targets, got over one hundred yards in
that one, and I think he'll be fed early and off.
And then finally the man everybody hates, the man nobody
wanted to draft. But for Week one, it's the Kumbaya,
(17:20):
let's all be friends moment for Tyreek Hill against Indianapolis.
Here look for him to try to be integrated into
this offense very quickly, while everybody's upright and seemingly playing
nice sandbox huge target total. What does it mean for
wins and loss as well? That's for another podcast and
TV show. But for Tyreek Hill, I think out of
(17:42):
the gate, it's all about trying to get him happy
and if the season does turn south, to make him
look good for a potential trade.
Speaker 4 (17:49):
I'll tell you what.
Speaker 3 (17:50):
The hot plays that Mike has laid out is a
perfect precursor so my points ap Loosa for week one.
So if you look within what Mike has provided specifically
with the hot plays, I think you're gonna get an
idea of where I think our points of Palosa is.
Let's go to the opposite end of the spectrum, the
cold sores, the players that we don't want to see.
Maybe they just don't have the great matchup this week.
(18:12):
Sometimes we do big game hunting in this scenario, Mike,
who are your cold plays for week one?
Speaker 2 (18:17):
A couple of guys right off the jams me.
Speaker 4 (18:19):
Cold sores for week one?
Speaker 2 (18:22):
Cold yeah, yeah, cold play. Now we got cold cold.
Now we're going to start singing along exactly Matthew Stafford
right off to jump because I have no idea what
the hell I'm getting right going up against that Houston
defense that we all agree, at least on paper right
now is the strength of this squad to try to
get them back to the top of the division. But
(18:42):
for Matthew Stafford, I just don't know. So I'm going
to take him and Pukinnakua, who's in your lineup, But
he's more a back end two for me this week
on the wait and see against a good secondary with
a guy who's back may or may not hold up
through week one. Justin Herbert on Friday night game in Brazil.
We know that they want to run the ball. Najee
(19:03):
Harris has been cleared. He's gonna start. Hampton's gonna see
a lot of work. I think they just try to
ground it out. You know, you and I talked a
lot on our Sunday show this past week about that
Ohio State and Texas game. You know, the kind of
feel out kind of thing, you know, the I equate
it again, you know, thinking about it more to a
Floyd Mayweather fight, Like eventually something's gonna happen. I don't
(19:24):
know when, but it's gonna happen. I don't think Justin
Herbert gets over the line though he's a back end
too for me, even though he's your quarterback's favorite quarterback
right now. And then Caleb Williams. You know normally we
say homerism, that's your guy, Like, yeah, that's great. I
don't know what the hell to expect in this game.
Brian Flores is going to torment him, and all the
offseason work that Ryan Pole's got an extension for is
(19:47):
gonna be front and center on this one to see
how that offensive line holds up because he's gonna throw
the kitchen sink at him. The two eighteen passing yardage, yeah,
you might get to that, but I'm not sure that
you're getting a big point total in one that that
was one again, I just want to watch McLaurin going
up against the Giants. Uh the over under for his
(20:08):
receiving total is under fifty eight, So no, thanks, uh
Ian cover your ears Garrett Wilson against Pittsburgh.
Speaker 3 (20:16):
And covering his eyes during the season. Sorry, it's all true.
Speaker 2 (20:23):
It's funny because it's true. Ashton Genty going up against
New England because I think they just say, okay, they
have two guys that could potentially beat us, although Jacobe
Myers did get get candid about Hey, I asked for
a trade. They said no. It's one of the great
quotes of recent memory. So you've got you got a
little bit of mix there, but.
Speaker 5 (20:43):
Still say though he did clarify, I'm still happy here
under trade.
Speaker 4 (20:48):
But I'm still happy.
Speaker 2 (20:49):
Well, but it's like all those guys that wanted trades
and then they got an extra dollar or three. Juwan
Jennings just keep going on down the line. Wait, I
can earn another three million dollars have in senate. There's
nothing guaranteed with that, Like, yeah, good enough, all right, good,
let's go. There's no market for me. And then Aaron
Jones going back to that game against Chicago, I think
you see more of Mason and you've got a two
(21:11):
headed monster out of that backfield. So his workload gets depleted.
Speaker 4 (21:15):
Week one.
Speaker 3 (21:16):
By the way, brock Bauers is going to have twenty
nine catches against the Patriots because if Amari Cooper is retiring,
Jacoby Myers wants out, like the balls of Jacoby Myers
to be like, I want out. That's pretty crazy. But
we'll see what happens on Sunday. But some interesting matchups,
and that Chiefs Chargers game. I think that's going to
be the exact opposite of what we saw with Packers
(21:37):
Eagles last year in Brazil. Mike, to your point, we
saw a great offensive affair from those teams, an exciting game,
and I think we're going to see a rock fight
between the Chargers and Chiefs, so true.
Speaker 2 (21:50):
Teams with great expectations. I just worried that we exported
this game where we knew we already had field issues
and we narrowly avoided crisis. Right, we have a quarterback
injury in Week one a year ago. I'm nervous, Like
this is one where I think we got conservatism, uh
and a lot of running and short passing efforts in
(22:11):
this one.
Speaker 3 (22:11):
All right, let's get to the Ninjas. By the way,
he had McLaurin as a cult star. I think the
Giants beat the Commanders in Week one. There's another I'll
just slide that that in they they played them tough
last year. All right, Mike, Let's get to the sneaky
place for Week one.
Speaker 2 (22:24):
All Right, we mentioned the Tyreek Hill thing. Bullish on
he and Tua to come up again. I like Indianapolis overall,
So I've also got Daniel Jones on this ship this list.
Speaker 3 (22:35):
Excuse me, No, that's okay. That's our first cuss word
of the year. I like it.
Speaker 2 (22:39):
No, I don't even know where that came from.
Speaker 3 (22:42):
I think you can bind two words and it came
into that word. So you're I believe you're in this
list and it just came into it. Yeah, all right,
it works, all right. I want to want to No, no,
we don't. We want to keep it in right. This
episode's edge.
Speaker 2 (23:00):
No, I like it. It's like the Taylor Swift and
Sabrina Carpenter albums. I've now grown up, guys. Let's go.
Speaker 4 (23:08):
All right, where are some of the Moreland Ninjas that
we got?
Speaker 2 (23:11):
All right? So Daniel Jones, even though the on the list,
he's at one ninety nine and a half for his
over under unpassing here, he also can make plays with
his legs. I'm curious to see what that offense looks like.
Michael Pennick's Junior going up against Tampa Bay from Fireworks
again for this one. We've got great expectations of what
(23:31):
this Falcons offense can be and looking for him to
trigger eventually, Kirk Cousins finding employment elsewhere. And Joe Flacco
may not be elite, but he will be against the
Cincinnati Bengals so long as he can avoid Hendrickson because
they're just gonna need to keep throwing the ball like
they've got an unsettled backfield right now. But you do
have some playmakers. We've talked about Jerry Judy a lot.
(23:54):
You and I Dan, I think you got another opportunity
for him to hear heavy workload out of the gate
because they're just trying to keep up r J. Harvey
going up against Tennessee a little bit of a price
shot there. Tony Pollard ninety six receptions over the last
two years. That's where he makes some hay in this
game to try to slow down that Denver defense. Tank
(24:14):
Bigsby one of the great names against Carolina just because
he's Tank Bigsby. Abuca is a guy we've talked about
a bunch and expectations big for him alongside Mike Evans
as they try to round out that receiving go Eventually
Godwin gets back, eventually McMillan, all of these guys that
we may see heavy workloads eventually, but for now, Abuca
(24:36):
with a target count and then really a big of
a bit of a price shot. How about Stefan Diggs
going Upgainst Las Vegas, Yah, seeing if Drake may can
get after it here.
Speaker 3 (24:47):
We know that the the Stefan Digg's status has always
been coy throughout the season. Mike Vrabel preseason Mike Vrabel
not wanting to give a lot of information, but it's
been all positive. And I will say this. I know
it's tricky coming off the knee injury, but I felt
that there was going to be an acclamation period with
Houston and there wasn't. I don't think that Stefan Diggs
(25:08):
is the same receiver before this knee injury, however, makes
me think that he can acclimate pretty quickly to New
England then.
Speaker 2 (25:14):
And Mike Rabel, I mean, as long as he wasn't
diving into the pile, I mean he should be good
to go.
Speaker 4 (25:19):
Yes, and that alert you heard the FCC. No fine
for Mike Carmen, No fine, I appreciate it at all.
Speaker 3 (25:25):
For Mike Carmen for the cussword earlier in the episode.
Hit him up at Swollen Dome. You can find me
at dan Byer on Fox. You can find Ian at
Ian Underscore Roddy on Blue Sky and Ian Roddy Underscore
on X.
Speaker 4 (25:43):
There it is, and that's where you can swear at
us as well if you don't like our picks.
Speaker 2 (25:46):
Oh, I welcome it. Yeah, throwing darts and hot takes
and expletives all right.
Speaker 3 (25:53):
Coming up next, Ian gives us his streaming defenses for
Week one, Yes, a task that he will continue throughout
the season. You may not want to carry the same
defense each week. You may want to look for those
juicy matchups. Ian's got that. We'll also give our super
Bowl picks, and I've got a Points of Palooza and
a Survivor pick for you as well. It's all coming
up next right here, and I want your flex.
Speaker 2 (26:16):
Now.
Speaker 3 (26:16):
The table's turn as we wrap things up in our
Week one episode for I want your flex. Ian Roddy
are executive producer and myself Dan Beyer will give you
information and Mike Carmen can sit back and either support
or even Paul Coles and what we have to deliver. Ian,
you do a streaming defense pick. You give us a
couple of defenses that you may want to stream if
you're playing with a team defense in fantasy football, who.
Speaker 4 (26:39):
Do you like in week one?
Speaker 5 (26:41):
Yeah, So, I mean I've I've been cringing the last
few weeks doing my fantasy drafts and seeing there's always
one or two teams that just you know, sell out
and take a defense in like the tenth round or earlier.
And it's just absurd every single time. Because I mean,
I like streaming defenses. I think this is a good
strategy and it works, and defenses rarely are the thing
that actually wins you the week, so I like this.
(27:03):
It's just like a week to week thing. This week,
I've got three defenses. First one, the Cardinals. They're around
fifty percent rostered, so you may or may not be
able to get them in your leagues. They're playing against
the Saints and the Saints are starting Spencer Ratler at quarterback.
Got a small sample size with Ratler at quarterback, but
in that time he actually had a higher interception rate
(27:23):
than touchdown rate. So like to see that for the defense.
Speaker 2 (27:28):
I take this. Let me ask you guys quickly, what
do you think is the over under on the touchcount?
So we can get Alvin Kamara into this episode.
Speaker 4 (27:37):
Oh Man, dump off after dump right.
Speaker 2 (27:40):
He is it a double digit reception, So right, is
that a double digit reception week for him?
Speaker 5 (27:46):
I would say yes, receptions, but not rushes because they're
gonna be playing from behind. Yeah, but yeah, anyway, So
because of that Cardinals, there should be plenty of turnovers
sacks to be had, So I like that. And the
next a defense that might be more available is the
Rams six and a half percent rostered, and you mentioned
it earlier, Mike. They're playing against the Texans, who obviously
(28:08):
have a good quarterback in CJ. Stroud and who's got
weapons to throw to. But Stroud actually had the second
highest sack rate in the league last year behind Caleb Williams.
The offensive line only got worse this offseason, and the
biggest strength of the Rams is their defensive line, Jared
Versus leading the way. I actually have him winning Defensive
Player of the Year as my kind of out on
a limb thing. Yeah, So expect a lot of sacks
(28:29):
for the Rams this week. And then the last one
is the Miami Dolphins four point six percent rostered. They're
playing the Colts, who are starting Daniel Jones at QB.
Speaker 2 (28:38):
We know what my subconscious thinks to him, sure do we?
Sure too?
Speaker 5 (28:45):
Obviously Jones is like he's he's forever. He's been a
guy that we're chasing when streaming defenses. So until he
gives us a reason not to, I'm just gonna keep
chasing the Colts.
Speaker 3 (28:53):
Now that he's on the Colts, so they're the streaming
defenses for Ian Roddy, I'm gonna just branch off of
that because I'm going to start with my Survivor picks.
I think that there are a couple of games, guys
that if you really want to make some hay and
Survivor that you can go with Dolphins Colts such a
coin flip. If you feel strongly one side or the other,
that's probably the place you want to go. But we're
(29:16):
also talking about a Survivor contest if you're in a
smaller one. There were It was chaos last year. In
the first three weeks of the season, Teams that you
thought were definite victories fell by the wayside pretty quick.
I had a league start over, a Survivor league start
over in week four because there were so many other
like they just started. It wasn't a buyback in. It
was we're just going to start a new one and
(29:38):
then you can continue to play from that because so
many people were knocked out in the first three.
Speaker 5 (29:42):
Remember the Saints like for like the first first three.
Speaker 4 (29:45):
Since they're the best team in the league, correct.
Speaker 2 (29:48):
Right, and the Bengals going down early. Yeah, there was
some chaos right up top.
Speaker 3 (29:52):
I do have a formula. I do like to pick
home teams and non divisional games. That's usually where I'm going.
You're going to see a lot of people pick the
Broncos this week against the Titans. I think that that's
pretty fair. I would stay away from the Commanders, as
I told you, I like the Giants actually to pull
an upset this week. If you were to pick a team,
(30:13):
if I did have to have you put a team down,
I would pick the Steelers against the Jets road team
going to New York, just for the simple fact I'm
not sure if Pittsburgh's going to have a game where
everybody is healthy after this week, so now would be
the week to take him. And I think it's a
tough week for the Jets with the Elijah Vera Tucker injury.
(30:35):
I feel there's more maybe Aaron Rodgers revenge in his teammates.
Speaker 4 (30:41):
I'm going to take a flyer, Sorry, Ian and take
the Steelers over the Jets.
Speaker 5 (30:44):
That's okay, Dan, that's all right.
Speaker 3 (30:46):
That would be my survivor. My points of Palooza might
keup on naming Panthers and Jaguars. And that's where I am.
Thirty years ago these teams came into the league. I'm
not going to tell you it's Bill's Ravens when that's
the highest point total that we've got of an over under.
Speaker 4 (31:00):
So we're going to look before that.
Speaker 3 (31:02):
But I think we could have some fun football in
the sun between Carolina and Jacksonville. There's some other games
out there, Browns and Bengals and Noah on the radar,
as were the Bucks and Falcons. But I felt pretty
good when Mike started naming Trevor Lawrence, Ted McMillan, Chuba Hubbard,
Brian Thomas made his top five, Tank Biggsby made it
(31:22):
into the Hot plays as well, or they excuse me,
the Ninjas.
Speaker 4 (31:26):
And so that's what I like.
Speaker 3 (31:27):
I like Carolina and Jacksonville to be our points of
Palooza highest point total of week ones.
Speaker 2 (31:32):
Yeah, I dig that to where it's the Canalis Cohen thing,
like the football nerd me, because that's all I am,
because I only played so long, given the fact that
I have the shape of a fire plug. But it's
just the curiosity of that chess match and two young
quarterbacks really trying to make that next level. I think
(31:53):
we get some fireworks. I love it, Dan.
Speaker 3 (31:55):
And for the survivor point, I've got three survivor entries.
I've got Denver Pittsburgh in Miami. So I did take
a side in the Colts Dolphins. I'm gonna side with
the Dolphins.
Speaker 4 (32:04):
In this one. Again.
Speaker 3 (32:07):
I think you can go either side in that Dolphins
Colts game, and if you hit it, I think you're
going to be.
Speaker 4 (32:13):
Ahead of a lot of people.
Speaker 2 (32:14):
I love it.
Speaker 3 (32:14):
All right, let's get it in our final Super Bowl picks.
Here they are, Ian Roddy. Do you want to go
first with your Super Bowl selection?
Speaker 5 (32:22):
Yeah, I mean I can go first. I feel like
mine's probably going to be the most boring out of
the three. I'm just sticking with.
Speaker 4 (32:26):
The Chiefs, Okay.
Speaker 6 (32:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (32:29):
To me, last year was a down year for them,
and I feel like they've gotten better since Rashie Rice
obviously has his suspension, but he's gonna be in theory
coming back from his injury. Xavier Worthy second year. Love
him speed, deep threat, you know, stepping into that role
that Tyreek Hill used to fill. The defense is still
(32:50):
just as good in Mahomes. We know he can either
be showtime Mahomes or he can be game manager Mahomes.
But regardless, he's good enough to get them to the
Super Bowl and they have not missed an AFC Championship
games since he's been the starter.
Speaker 3 (33:01):
So I like the Chiefs, the Chiefs winning at all.
Do you have them beating a team in the Super
Bowl from the NFC?
Speaker 2 (33:07):
Yeah, the NFC.
Speaker 5 (33:08):
I've got the Lions.
Speaker 3 (33:09):
Going Lions, Chiefs and Lions. I'm going to connect that
as well. I'm going to say the Lions as well.
I just wonder if they're going to now just be
more vanilla Mike and just be a team that without
all the gadget stuff. And they're good upfront offensively. We
know that they had awful injuries on defense, specifically Aiden Hutchinson,
(33:30):
who is my pick for Defensive Player of the Year.
Ian mentioned his earlier with it being Jared Verse. I
like Aiden Hutchinson. I think that the Lions kind of
being under the radar and maybe not that team with
a change of coordinators. Let's ride Detroit, but they fall.
They fall sixty minutes short and losing in the Super
Bowl too. The team that won the Super Bowl in
(33:52):
that stadium the last time, the Denver Broncos. I am
going with Denver to win Super Bowl sixty. I think
a great upfront on offense. I think they're great upfront
on defense, and Sean Payton will figure out away. Give
me the Broncos over the Lions in Super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (34:08):
Sixteen twenty two to one. For you, America or beyond
if you want to jump on board Dan's.
Speaker 4 (34:15):
Back and ride to the one big or go home right?
Speaker 2 (34:20):
No, I dig it right. Going a little further down
the list because you get that separation because you have
it clumped up top in terms of Super Bowl odds
when you look at the Ravens, the Bills, and Chiefs
all at seven or eight to one, before you have
a cluster of NFC teams that join the mix right after,
before you get all the way down to Cincinnati and Denver,
(34:43):
and if you trust Cincinnati's deefense, I mean that is
a lot of faith in Joe Burrow. You talked about
balance and definition with what Denver has to work through
the key is navigating the division. So I love it.
I loved all the Ian's points. I wanted to go
James Carville old school and just say an excellent argument,
we have no response. Yeah, so I was on board
(35:05):
the k C thing. Part of me wants to be
different for different sake, but no, because I picked the
Bills each and every year, I don't know that they
have a complete enough team to do it. And Baltimore
I fear attrition late, even with Keaton Mitchell being back
to spell, Derrick Henry and all of that. Lamar Jackson
in the receiving corps, Mark Andrews will not drop a
(35:27):
wide open pass again, I think if given the chance.
But all that to say, it's really tough when you
look at the balance of the Chiefs and Rashie Rice
missed the first half of the season but should be ready,
and Travis Kelcey's not on tour, and maybe Taylor's performing.
I don't know if Roger Goodell let the cat out
of the bag with his little maybe you never know.
(35:48):
But all of that for so far, Yeah, give me
the Chiefs. And on the other I'm gonna be boring.
I'm gonna be really boring. I got Jalen Carter as
my defensive player there, even with no stats, it's gonna
be the greatest to arguments, He's like, no, this guy's
got for to No. Hey, all he did was create chaos.
I don't know how we quantify it, but that's what
we do. So I'm going to take a rematch with
(36:09):
the Chiefs and the Eagles, and.
Speaker 4 (36:11):
The Chiefs topping Philadelphia.
Speaker 2 (36:13):
They get the job done this time. There.
Speaker 3 (36:14):
It is our super Bowl picks and our Week one
information that you crave. Guys, we are off and running.
Let's go watch some football.
Speaker 4 (36:21):
How about that?
Speaker 2 (36:22):
Yeah, I'll be cursing all weekend long. Let's go as
my picks go awry.
Speaker 3 (36:26):
For Mike Carmen and Ian Roddy. We will be back
after week one for our post mortem. Let's give you
multiple episodes next week as we get you ready for
Week two. We will talk to you then and I
want your flex
