Speaker 2 (00:22):
We all have a bit of a political hangover today, right, hangover? Right,
We all watched in disbelief. We all felt some type
of way.

Speaker 3 (00:32):
I know I did.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
I was watching with my teenage kids. She was like,
is this real life? And I'm like, yeah. So I
gotta make it very clear that our first conversation of
the day here on the Covino on Rich Show is
politics aside. Okay, this is just our observations about people.

Speaker 3 (00:54):
Politics aside. It doesn't matter.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
We're not trying to make anybody mad, because it's really
not the point of the discussion. If you want to
chime in, you got something to say, by all means,
we're open to it. At eight seven, seven ninety nine
on Fox. But politics aside, what eye witnessed last night
was sad on a human level, not political level, human level,
because we all know somebody who's a little old that

(01:19):
probably shouldn't be out there doing what.

Speaker 3 (01:21):
They do, right, a mess. It's true.

Speaker 2 (01:24):
I mean, there's always a family member and it's like
hey Grandpa, Hey, uncle Fred, Hey it Beneezer. You know
you worked hard, but maybe it's time relax, enjoy yourself,
feed the ducks. And I'm not trying to be mean,
not trying to be rude at all. Like I said,
it was sad. Listen, there was one moment last night
in the debate. Again, vote for whoever you want.

Speaker 3 (01:48):
I don't care.

Speaker 1 (01:48):
You know, this is a place where we're just hanging
in bs and having fun. Right, But if you watched
last night, there was a moment where Biden said something
and I was like, what did he say? And then
this is what Donald Trump said, and I think the
world felt this way.

Speaker 3 (02:02):
I really don't know what he said. At the end
of this, I don't think he knows what he said either.

Speaker 2 (02:06):
So based on that, and you know, like I said,
just sad to me on a personal human level. Yeah,
based on that, our first thought here on Fox Sports
Radio is there's a lot of people in life, a
lot of people in sports that overstayed their welcome. Just

(02:30):
so happens, we're seeing it on a very big stage.
At least that's how it appeared.

Speaker 3 (02:34):
Right.

Speaker 2 (02:34):
Everybody has a bad night too, if you want to
be fair, we heard he had a cold. I mean
right from the get go, Rich you had to notice
that his voice was off, something was off, not right.
So hey, let's just say he had a bad night too.
But we all know and have experienced and have witnessed
athletes or just anybody that overstayed their welcome. And the
first person that comes to my mind is Muhammad al

(03:00):
the Goat, one of the greatest of all time, if
not the greatest of all time, because again, he stayed
around so long where he was getting a little punchy man,
he was losing the guys like well Larry Holmes. You know,
Larry Holmes was a great fighter, but still he stayed
around too long where I'm not saying it tarnished the legacy,
but it hurt to watch.

Speaker 1 (03:21):
Listen again, it's the last time we'll say it, because
we're gonna get into this and have some.

Speaker 3 (03:26):
Fun with it.

Speaker 1 (03:26):
But it's really less about politics more just human observation.
Even after the debate last night, Democrats were saying like yo,
should they be scrambling.

Speaker 3 (03:36):
Around for someone new? Like even going into.

Speaker 1 (03:38):
The debate, the question is, these are two guys that
will be eighty by the end of this.

Speaker 3 (03:44):
And it's like, I don't know.

Speaker 1 (03:46):
I have a bunch of people in sports, entertainment, music
that I'm like, Yo, it's it's time.

Speaker 2 (03:52):
Yeah, And look, everybody ages differently, and you gotta, i mean,
maybe commend the fortitude of these athletes and these people
for wanting to push forward and wanting to do the
right thing and holding on to what made them great.
A lot of times they're the last to know. But
that's when somebody has to step in and do in
the tow right And that's what makes you scratch your

(04:17):
head about what you saw again last night? Or you
could say, I will Sam, I know you have thoughts
on this too. You could say maybe it was a
bad night all around. But if you want to tie
sports into it, like I said Muhammad Ali, and that
that's one of the answers. Because you saw the greatness,
you knew what the greatness looked like, you knew how
sharp he was at one point, how invincible he seemed

(04:38):
to be. And even though he was the greatest of
all time. You know, yeah, he lost along the way,
but he stood around too long.

Speaker 3 (04:46):
Too long.

Speaker 1 (04:47):
Now I got one in music and one in sports
that stand out to me. Okay, last year I was
in Nashville and I saw guns and Roses.

Speaker 2 (04:57):
Oh and let me tell you, I know these are
teas might be fighting words more than your opinions on Biden.

Speaker 3 (05:04):
Last night.

Speaker 1 (05:07):
Kerrie Underwood opened for Guns n' Roses. She came back
out to sing sweet Child of Mine, and that was
the most glaring moment where it's like, yo, Axel Rose
has no voice anymore.

Speaker 3 (05:20):
Yes, I get it. Gn R is awesome. Who does it?
Love some multiopole Guns n' Roses.

Speaker 1 (05:26):
But the fact that they're still put on shows and
people are buying tickets, God bless them. But it is
not you know what rich to be fair to You
could say it's a testament to their previous greatness. It's
hard to maintain that, right, like who is better than
Axel Rose? Who is better than Vince Neil? You can't
really keep that up your whole life. There's exceptions like

(05:47):
Sammy Hagar. The guy's one hundred and eighty years old.
I don't know how he hits those high notes. But
when you.

Speaker 2 (05:52):
Were hitting those high notes at that young age, you're
setting yourself up in the future to fail because how
are you gonna do that?

Speaker 3 (06:00):
It's hard to keep up.

Speaker 1 (06:02):
There's a there's exceptions of people that play and perform
at a high level older Tom Brady, Lebron James, you know,
Bartolo Cologne. There's guys that just found a way to
play and perform later in life. But you know, one
of my isween, one of my heroes growing up as
a kid, is another example that comes to mind.

Speaker 3 (06:22):
Not Alf not Joe Montana, who riches heroes? Mmmm uh
the clown? No what you're gonna do? Let me tell you.

Speaker 1 (06:36):
There was a point I was the biggest little hulk
maniac kid with my workout set red and yellow.

Speaker 3 (06:42):
I love Hulk Cogan. Don't you marry him?

Speaker 1 (06:46):
When I was a little kid on my wall, before uh,
Cindy Crawford and Carmen Electra took over, my posters were
Gary Carter, Joe Montana, and Hulk Cogan.

Speaker 3 (06:57):
And there came a point in wrestling.

Speaker 1 (06:58):
Where it just became unbelievable that some young rip dude
can't beat up the old ball guy like come on hard.

Speaker 3 (07:05):
I can't watch yeah hard.

Speaker 1 (07:08):
It's hard to believe what Hulk Cogan is in the
ring with his super tan dad belly, and it's like,
you tell me the rock can't beat the whole.

Speaker 2 (07:19):
Now again, we made it clear, this is politics aside.
This is on a human level, human observation of maybe
maybe maybe maybe they're both sticking around too long, but
one more evident than the other last night. That's the story.
Don't get mad at us if you disagree. Now the
number give me.

Speaker 1 (07:36):
The Vegas odds, just to prove the point so it
doesn't seem like you're one sided for sure, for the
gambling fools out there Las Vegas. You know, Biden Trump,
we're pretty even going into this debate as Horus Poles
and who's gonna win Joe Biden after last night's debate
to win the presidential election is plus three eighty, meaning

(07:56):
bet one hundred to win three eighty. It it turns
sideways for that dude last night. So just just to
give it a little backup where it doesn't seem, you know,
like you're a.

Speaker 2 (08:05):
And I don't think anyone feels good about that, even
if they're against Joe Biden, because, like I said before,
on a human level, seeing anybody that once did great
things or just was a great guy, or maybe it
was your grandfather, seeing them get old and they're not
as sharp as they used to be, or they had
a bad night, or they slipped a little bit.

Speaker 3 (08:25):
That's just said and relatable.

Speaker 2 (08:27):
So it's not like you're watching and getting any sort
of thrill that Trump won. I think a lot of
people looked at it and related to seeing their their
heroes fall a little bit, like, yeah, every one is.

Speaker 3 (08:40):
Not everyone is.

Speaker 1 (08:41):
Dick van Dyke. I saw an interview with him lately.
The guy's almost a hundred and he's still like with it.

Speaker 3 (08:47):
Those guys are exceptions to the rule.

Speaker 1 (08:49):
Rich William Shatton, theer Betty White before she passed away.

Speaker 3 (08:53):
There's very few people that stay with it.

Speaker 1 (08:55):
Who'd I see the other day? I'm drawing a blank.
It was some old guy that hasn't been in like
a decade, and he was out with his younger wife.

Speaker 3 (09:02):
Come on, filling the blanks. Hmmm, he's thinking Hoosiers?

Speaker 2 (09:09):
Is he thinking of a There was some old guy
that has photos of him.

Speaker 3 (09:15):
Yeah, yeah, he's a live still.

Speaker 2 (09:17):
Yeah, he's alive and because he was photoed recently shopping.

Speaker 3 (09:22):
That was it. He's one hundred and fifty.

Speaker 1 (09:25):
I felt terrible seeing the picture of him like hobbling
around a supermarket. I got one for you, and this
hurts my feelings as a broadcaster.

Speaker 3 (09:36):
My goodness.

Speaker 1 (09:38):
We we joked about it, and I almost feel guilty
that we used to say harpy do when they would
wheel out Dick Clark. Towards the end, I admire him
as a broadcaster. Who's who's more legendary than Dick Clark.
But those last couple of years, Eves Cavino, Danny g Spot,
I Sam, they were rough, like you guy, it were Amanda.

Speaker 4 (09:57):
But at the same time it was hard to watch.
I remember the yeah because of his knees. A famous
NBA player comes to mind, and you guys will feel
me on this because he used to fill the Madison
Square garden when Patrick Ewing was on the Orlando Magic
limping around.

Speaker 3 (10:14):
That was hard to watch Ewing post Nicks.

Speaker 2 (10:19):
Dude having that Sonics uniform is just miserable to say, Dude,
I have that written down right here, because I'd say
that's one of the top answers on the board.

Speaker 3 (10:26):
Danny G. No doubt.

Speaker 2 (10:28):
You know that was sad for anybody. He's like, ay,
he stood around too long.

Speaker 3 (10:32):
Man.

Speaker 2 (10:32):
It's but you know what, these are things that they
make movies about.

Speaker 3 (10:36):
You know, the guy had.

Speaker 1 (10:38):
This guy had one moment of greatness in his in
his final go which is why we forget how sad
the ending was. Albert Poolholtz was a shell of himself.

Speaker 3 (10:50):
Towards the end.

Speaker 1 (10:51):
He had that home run derby at the All Star
Break that got everyone all pumped up, like yo, pool Holes,
and he had like a good month and a half.

Speaker 3 (10:57):
But the last couple of years he had final year,
it was the few years leading up to it. Well,
you know what it was.

Speaker 1 (11:04):
We talked the other day on our bonus podcast over promised,
who's the greatest living baseball player? Now, I'm shocked we
didn't even mention pool Holes brought him up.

Speaker 3 (11:12):
I threw him out there. Yeah he did. But you
know what, Danny, it's uh.

Speaker 1 (11:16):
I think poolh Holes would have been a great answer
if you erased the last couple of years of his career,
because it really did make you think.

Speaker 3 (11:24):
Oh the guys, bet, I'm with you, Rich.

Speaker 2 (11:25):
They always say the last thing that goes your power
and he still had that, but it looked like his
feet were hurting as he rounded the bases.

Speaker 3 (11:31):
You know.

Speaker 4 (11:31):
True, Yeah, he was playing for the Dodgers. He was
a little out of shape. Yeah, he still came up
in some clutch moments. They called him to yeah, called
him their uncle. But yeah, so let's uh take some
phone calls. Let's go around the room.

Speaker 2 (11:44):
I already mentioned the greatest of all time, Muhammad Ali.
Like here's the other part of it too, Like I
remember cousins and uncles telling me as a little boy, yo.

Speaker 3 (11:54):
That's Muhammad Ali.

Speaker 2 (11:55):
And I'm watching as a kid, like he's getting his
ass beat. He's the greatest. For Burbic's beating him. And
you know, because he fought into the eighties rich. I
don't know if a lot of people realized that. And
here's another one. I remember my uncles and my cousins
being like, Yo, that's Peley. You see that dude, that's
pile dude. He was on the cosmos. I'm like, that's Peley.

(12:16):
He was on the cosmos as an old guy. You know,
these are famous answers. And who else comes to mind?
Some could say, again, when you're measured by your own greatness.
That's also the reason why it's so significant and evident
as you get older.

Speaker 3 (12:32):
Like Michael Jordan, dude on the Wizards. You could say
he stood around too long. You could say that, or
he could say yeah, but he was still pretty good.
He still averaged like twenty eight points a game. Man.

Speaker 2 (12:41):
But again, when you're measured by your own greatness and
your Michael Jordan looks sick.

Speaker 1 (12:45):
That's that's the great point to me. I'm measured by
your own greatness. Because you could say that about a
vander Holyfield.

Speaker 3 (12:52):
Oh, dude, without a doubt.

Speaker 2 (12:54):
Remember he fought who was it that he fought, like
Belford or somebody he fought somebody ran them recently, like
with in the past three years and he got knocked
out of the ring.

Speaker 3 (13:04):
Dude. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (13:04):
And in sports sometimes it has to do with injuries
just as much as the person's age. Like think of
Joe Namath with your Niners Rich. He was a shell
of himself. He was limping around. He was only like
thirty four years old at the time, and he got
picked up by waivers by the rams and like dudes
like that held on too long, but they weren't that old.

Speaker 5 (13:24):
Like if you're going to retire, both both the greats
Jordan and Brady. If you're going to retire and then
come back out of retirement, you better come back with
a vengeance because if you're if you're making the choice
as a great to retire, you should probably stay retired.

Speaker 3 (13:41):
That's just my thought.

Speaker 2 (13:42):
You know, it's always tough because they had that fighters mentality, right, But.

Speaker 5 (13:45):
It tarnishes your greatness because you came out of retirement.

Speaker 2 (13:49):
But here's the Blues body boy, what they always say
in the world of the sports, in any occupation, it's
your legacy to tarnish. But you know, we as fans
are the ones cheering you on and noticing that. But
it's still their legacy. And who are we as fans
to tell them when to stop. We just wish I
think someone closer to them, like their wife, like Biden's wife,

(14:11):
like like someone in all these family, any of these people.

Speaker 3 (14:14):
She didn't seem to help last night. Yeah she did,
she helped him off the stage.

Speaker 4 (14:18):
No, but after when she told him he did a
great job because he answered all the question threeps.

Speaker 1 (14:24):
Dude, I mean, give the guys ice cream cone and
called today. I just I thought of another as we're
talking about this, and again, Cavino, your point makes me
think all different things because we're talking about that. People
only apply in this conversation if they were great, so
it's like a compliment. At the same time, you were
so great, Like I.

Speaker 2 (14:44):
Said, politics aside, think of how much, just how far
he went in politics, right, Joe Biden did a.

Speaker 3 (14:52):
Lot of things for this. He was vice president and president,
I mean.

Speaker 5 (14:58):
Part of the First Continent Congress, so you could think
what you want about his politics.

Speaker 2 (15:03):
A second, we all saw something last night that made
us think about this stuff.

Speaker 3 (15:08):
I mean, he was our fifth father.

Speaker 1 (15:09):
He just missed right, so commited on I got another
that again, because they were so great, sometimes you just
fall off. Lindanian Tomlinson went from the number one pick
at everyone's fantasy draft year after year after year, and
then just like that, he was trying to get carries

(15:31):
on the Jets.

Speaker 2 (15:32):
Yeah, for some generations the real LT of course, we
don't think that as Lawrence Taylor, But it depends who
you ask.

Speaker 1 (15:41):
Oh, you know what, the wrestling one got a couple
of people hitting us up. Our buddy, Sean Weller, what's
up Sean listening in La on the app he said
to go with Hogan. The other legend the fact that
Rick Flair still hangs around. Now listen, when he goes
to locker rooms and pumps up guys on a football
field like whoa, that's one thing. Who But when Rick

(16:02):
Flair was still trying to wrestle like a couple of
years ago, like.

Speaker 2 (16:07):
Come on, Luckily those are just tributes and it's wrestling,
but it is still I don't want to say hard
to see because that's in the world entertainment, but it's
still like, oh mean, he's an old guy and you
just missed the younger version of that. Dude, Hey, Danny J,
you're a good person, asked because he stood around so long,
you credit this or do you think he's he stayed

(16:30):
he overstated his welcome Vince Carter.

Speaker 4 (16:33):
No, I think that he's an exception. You think because
he was still playing decent basketball even towards the end.

Speaker 2 (16:40):
He is he accepted like his role as a role player, right, exactly,
all right, But I threw him in there because everybody
knows how long he played.

Speaker 4 (16:47):
Okay, yeah, and to Spot's point about you know, they
should know when to say when I think it also
depends on your body of work, because do you guys,
when you think of Magic Johnson, do you think about
his failed comeback? Do you think about Dion Sanders as.

Speaker 3 (17:01):
Part of the miss Failed talk show.

Speaker 4 (17:05):
Yeah, but it's interesting, right because there's certain players where
like Jordan, we do think of them in a wizard's uniform.
There's other players who had comebacks and we don't really
fault them for that.

Speaker 3 (17:13):
We don't think about them like that. Yeah, you know
what I thought you were going to ask, Danny g. Kavine.

Speaker 1 (17:17):
I thought you were going to say some say Kobe Bryant.
I mean, people never want to say anything negative abou
Kobe because he was a good dude and he passed
away and he ended on that amazing last game. The
last couple of years, he sort of set the Lakers
back a little bit.

Speaker 3 (17:32):
Now, yeah, well, injuries were a part of it.

Speaker 4 (17:35):
The big contract, that huge money Genie Buss gave him
was the bad taste in everybody's mouth that we're NBA fans.
But because of that final what was at sixty point game,
it kind of was swept under the run.

Speaker 2 (17:48):
That's the beauty of new Blood and who said it
that politics needs new blood.

Speaker 3 (17:53):
Oh.

Speaker 4 (17:53):
Robert Griffin the Third tweeted that last night, where are
the younger politicians at? That was kind of the overwhelming
takeaway no matter how you vote. I also saw a
comedy writer. She posted, I think America should just be
single for a while, really find itself, do some inner work.
That's from Sarah k runnelds Well.

Speaker 2 (18:14):
I would never say anything disparaging about Kobe Bryant, in fact,
is sacrilegious in sports and here in Los Angeles. But
by giving him all that money, it did get in
the way of some young blood and you know, getting
some young players, and some could argue the same thing
about Derek Jeter or any player who stood around too
long for their team, and you know, it's the right

(18:34):
thing to do to honor those legends. I get it,
but it did set them back maybe in those ways
because you need new blood people and it's a little
selfish to get in the way of that. And that's
why we bring it up today based on what we
saw last night eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox,
Covino and Rich what's up, Dicky.

Speaker 1 (18:56):
We've seen all types of athletes, politicians, act musicians, but
you said.

Speaker 3 (19:02):
You watched a lot of it with your daughter.

Speaker 1 (19:04):
Yeah, I can't imagine the perspective of a teenager or
a twenty year old, Like, Dad, these are the two choices.

Speaker 2 (19:10):
Like, it's kind of hard to explain it. And I'm
sitting there thinking, I'm like, I can't imagine growing up
watching Ronald Reagan debate somebody and they're talking about porn
scandals and having sex with porn stars, and like, I'm
sitting there with the like, she's like, golf game one
was just it's golf was the best, yo. But Sam,

(19:32):
think about watching through the eyes of a young person,
you know.

Speaker 3 (19:36):
I'm like, you got to carry your own bag.

Speaker 2 (19:39):
Donald, I'm like, the country is supposed to be better
than his, honey, Just so you know, it was.

Speaker 3 (19:43):
It was the general tournament, it wasn't the seniors tournament.
I'm glad.

Speaker 4 (19:47):
I'm glad you bring that up because our oldest who's
in college right now, his takeaway was where are all
the good ideas at? Like, where are the ideas for
our country? And the panel afterwards, same thing. They asked
him who won, and all of them said the same thing. Nah,
I don't want to answer that, but I think America
is the loser because they didn't really answer any of

(20:07):
the questions.

Speaker 3 (20:07):
They just covered old stuff.

Speaker 2 (20:09):
And that doesn't mean we think any place is better
than America. I don't want to go anywhere. I love
this country. But it's our observation from last night. It's
kind of how we all feel so athletes and other
people who you think stuck around too long as a result,
and in some ways it's a tribute too. Like I
think of guys like Julio Franco. How many years did
that guy play? Vince Carter played twenty two years professionally?

(20:32):
How many years? Just guess Julio Franco, And to look.

Speaker 1 (20:34):
It up, the guy played totally. I think he was
like forty seven fifty.

Speaker 3 (20:39):
Here's a good question.

Speaker 5 (20:40):
Yeah, and we can take a two pround approach to this, Tyson,
are we going to have this discussion again in November?

Speaker 3 (20:47):
Goodness? Are we going to be looking?

Speaker 5 (20:49):
I hope not because I want him to pummelt Jake Paul,
but also and to backtrack with Tyson, who is he
fighting when he was like I just don't have the
fighting good I don't like.

Speaker 6 (20:59):
Pete McNeil Tomato can that he lost when he just
lost his his you know, luster his fighter. He didn't
have anyone like he just he said he did it
for money, right, yep.

Speaker 3 (21:12):
He just absolutely was fighting.

Speaker 2 (21:13):
When you're just fighting for the money and no longer
for the love of the sport or whatever sport it is. Yeah,
many you overstayed, You're welcome, but at least he had
the wherewithal to be like, you know what, I'm out. Yeah,
at that point, you're disrespecting the game, disrespecting the sport, right,
So you got to know, like Danny g said, when
to say when when to bow out gracefully, or you

(21:35):
have to have people around you to to help you
understand that is time.

Speaker 1 (21:41):
I mean, listen to quote your dad, because your dad says,
everyone's always kissing ass, why are you always kissing? As
I'm not saying this just so that no one thinks, oh,
they like Biden or Trump. I really do think any
young person, you know, if you're a guy, middle aged
guy or woman, you've seen debates and you've seen elections.
If you're a younger person, you got to be thinking,

(22:03):
we're like the forty fifty year olds from both sides, right,
It's almost like it's like a team hanging on to
a veteran quarterback that's not going to win another one,
like go to the draft, get let's think ahead. And
I think we saw that last night and it just
to me was a little embarrassing.

Speaker 7 (22:22):
Listen, guys, I know people might be asking, where are
the forty and fifty and sixty year olds on both
sides with good ideas. Americans are kind of to blame
for this because they decided to back Biden and then
decided to back Trump. They had other options during the primaries,
and they went with the two old guys. Again, You're right, Yes, nobody's.

Speaker 1 (22:42):
What I was Sam, I'll back. I'll say this to
wrap it up. I feel as though the path to
all the other things we're talking about, sports, music, acting, there's.

Speaker 3 (22:53):
A lot of glory in that.

Speaker 1 (22:55):
I don't think there's much glory in politics now because
all you're doing is putting your family, your friends and
everything out there for display.

Speaker 3 (23:01):
Everyone picks apart. What you done was very corrosive, like.

Speaker 1 (23:04):
You're gonna be pulled into scandals and nonsense. And I
think that young people don't see a path of politics
is like a cool.

Speaker 3 (23:12):
One or like admirable.

Speaker 1 (23:14):
To be honest, I think it's gonna be hard to
find those great next leaders men or women.

Speaker 3 (23:18):
I really do.

Speaker 1 (23:19):
I think, why would you want to get into politics
when you know that you're just gonna get dragged.

Speaker 7 (23:23):
But you also need people who are young, who are
just gonna stand up and take the brunt and get
this restarted, like you know, burn down the prairie and
started over again.

Speaker 3 (23:34):
Yeah, let's make it clear.

Speaker 2 (23:36):
Politics aside people who overstayed their welcome, athletes who played
too long. And for the record, Julio Franco twenty three
seasons in the big so at the same time, you
got to commend that. But we'll take your feedback and
your phone calls.

Speaker 3 (23:50):
Julio Franco had the hugest ass.

Speaker 1 (23:55):
Remember Julio Franco's batting stance his I mean, that's how
he stayed in the game, because he got all the
power from those glutes on that.

Speaker 3 (24:03):
Then you want to begin I think I think we
should give Rich a few minutes.

Speaker 1 (24:12):
Here, bro, I'm just explaining why that's the wallpaper on
my phone. Oh that's the guy got it all right,
So let me let me escape here.

Speaker 8 (24:22):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at Foxsports Radio
dot Com and within the iHeartRadio app search FSR to
listen live.

Speaker 3 (24:35):
Hey, what's up everybody?

Speaker 9 (24:36):
It's me three time pro bowler LeVar Harrington, and I
couldn't be more excited to announce a podcast called Up
on Game? What is Up on Game? You asked, along
with my fellow pro bowler T. J. Huschman, Zada and
Super Bowl champion. Yep, that's right, Plexico Burris. You can
only name a show with that type of talent on it.

Speaker 3 (24:56):
Up on Game.

Speaker 9 (24:57):
We're going to be sharing our real life experiences loaded
with teachable moments. Listen to Up on Game with me
lebar Arrington, T J. Huschman's Ouda, and Plexigo Birds on
the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your
podcast from.

Speaker 2 (25:20):
Rich I'm gonna tie it into TV. It's not just
politics or sports. A show that we once loved, I
mean we talked about. When I say we, I mean
everybody in the country. We talked about it every Monday.
It put AMC on the map, walking dead, in my opinion,
stuck around way too long. Overstated's welcome. He went from

(25:43):
I loved it too, I didn't care at all.

Speaker 3 (25:45):
There's a ton of spinoffs.

Speaker 1 (25:46):
There's still fanatics that are like, oh dude, there's a
Rick Crimes.

Speaker 3 (25:49):
Now I'm over that.

Speaker 2 (25:51):
I'm almost the same, same, same, So I want to
wrap it up with these phone calls.

Speaker 3 (25:56):
Let's do it all, right, Who do we got online?

Speaker 1 (25:59):
One?

Speaker 2 (25:59):
Danny Harley in New York State, Marley, New York State.
You're on the Covino and Rich show.

Speaker 10 (26:05):
Yeah, somebody that's in you guys is lying to work,
needs to hang it up. And that's Shannon Sharp. Your
shirt workspace needs a gallup out of here. Okay, you
know I love I like the Wolf for Shepherds, but
he started dressing real weird, you know, sort of like
Cam Newton with the you know, come on you save
his head and stuff.

Speaker 3 (26:24):
He'll look like, yeah, I said you were gonna say
somebody else. Yeah, I was gonna say it.

Speaker 1 (26:28):
To be honest, I think that's a bad example because
he's probably in his peak right now. I mean that
club sh she's like a big deal. That's a terrible
exa to me, that's just a matter of preference. I
clearly you don't like the guy.

Speaker 7 (26:39):
I think Shannon Sharp has emerged as one of the best,
like most like, yeah, genuine credible talking heads out there.

Speaker 4 (26:46):
Yeah, I think of older announcers. It was like when
Brent Musburger lost his fastball, even though we all love him.
The same with Chick Hern, the legendary Laker announcer.

Speaker 3 (26:57):
At the very end, he was struggling a little bit.

Speaker 4 (27:01):
And guys like that, because they're legends, we still want
to hear their voices on the radio and on TV,
so it's hard for us and them to let go.

Speaker 2 (27:08):
And I say this respectfully, you say legends a guy
that helped make this game what it is today. I
think most people would have thought Howard Stern right there,
because his core fans feel like he maybe changed too much,
even though there's another group of people that would say
he's doing his best work right now.

Speaker 1 (27:29):
Right that guy said, that guy said, Chad and Sharp,
I thought he was gonna say his old co host
skip skip, Like you know, I don't think he lost
his ability to broadcast, but sometimes maybe the game out
grows you.

Speaker 2 (27:44):
I don't know, time's changed too much. Like that's the
beauty of David Letterman. He realized that things were changing
too much around him that he said.

Speaker 3 (27:52):
You know what, I'm out.

Speaker 2 (27:53):
I'm gonna do my own thing then, because this is
changing too much for me, and not everybody knows that
or has the wherewithal to do that.

Speaker 1 (28:02):
Man, That, to me is always the best example. David
Letterman realized the world of social media and carpool karaoke and.

Speaker 3 (28:11):
A social media eclips.

Speaker 1 (28:12):
You know, like singing with celebrities the way Late Night
was going. Dave's like, that's not me, retires at the
right time, and then re emerges and says, yeah, I'm
gonna do a cool, sit down Netflix interview show and
it's fantastic.

Speaker 3 (28:26):
So some people know how to time these things out.
So props two.

Speaker 2 (28:30):
More quick, one, last one. Who do we got Danny
g Hello, you're on the air. Let's go to Matt
in SoCal Hey, matt.

Speaker 10 (28:36):
Eyo Yo, Coubino and Rich as always natural content back
by sincere Bs and apparently the Julio Franco Fetish Show
of Record.

Speaker 2 (28:46):
That's rich that's rich yeah, real quick.

Speaker 10 (28:49):
Off Franco too. You're looking at Lily baseball cards. I
think he was on that juse it up.

Speaker 11 (28:52):
Diet Real Quick, Dominic Wilkins and Celtic Green.

Speaker 10 (28:58):
I don't know what his numbers were.

Speaker 11 (29:00):
But Emma Smith in a cardinal uniform and then.

Speaker 10 (29:02):
On the flip side, shout out to you, Barry Sanders,
get out on time and you're one of the greatest evers.

Speaker 2 (29:08):
Yeah, I mean some say he uh, too early, right,
but better than too late.

Speaker 3 (29:13):
I think. I don't know.

Speaker 2 (29:14):
Think about that conversation for another day maybe, But it's
all based on what we saw last night, and we
got to get to an update.

Speaker 3 (29:21):
We got our guy, Isaac lo and Krap. He's still working. Yeah, Oh,
he hasn't dipped away. He's still around.

Speaker 12 (29:29):
Our top story, Our top story. Danny g is now
dead to me after his sacrilegious remarks about chick Hern
moments ago.

Speaker 3 (29:39):
Hey, I loved him like you did. But you know
it's true you did.

Speaker 12 (29:41):
You did not love him like I did.

Speaker 3 (29:43):
I'm about to see Winning Time. He wasn't very nice
to the people either.

Speaker 12 (29:47):
Yeah. Winning Time was fictional.

Speaker 3 (29:51):
It was a TV. It wasn't real. It was was
not real live.

Speaker 7 (29:56):
He couldn't be like Jerry West would be like. I
don't like the way I was represented there.

Speaker 3 (29:59):
I hope he that was unnecessary.

Speaker 12 (30:03):
I hope hr is going to be open late this afternoon.

Speaker 3 (30:06):
Fellas I saw, you know.

Speaker 1 (30:09):
An old Palavar is a guy that we've always had
a good relationship with, a guy that's always been very kind.
Andrew Ceciliano, who was with the NFL network, who was
no longer with him. I saw he was feeling it
for rich Eyes the other day, so he'll get his
next opportunity.

Speaker 3 (30:22):
But a really good dude.

Speaker 1 (30:24):
We've seen him for years doing Sunday football. I saw
him walking along the beach, very Colin Cowhert style, doing
like a selfie video, and he made a point that
I was feeling. So I don't need to give him
credit because I was thinking the same thing. But he
confirmed what I was feeling, which was why is everyone

(30:47):
such a negative little biac about this Bronni lebron thing?

Speaker 3 (30:51):
Like so easy?

Speaker 1 (30:53):
We should be celebrating this ridiculously awesome story of father's
son in the NBA. Imagine if back when we were
kids could be no if we were crying and be
a little babies about Griffy.

Speaker 3 (31:06):
And Griffy Junior.

Speaker 1 (31:08):
Like yo, the Seattle took an old ass ken Griffy
Senior and brought him on board and he played with his.

Speaker 3 (31:14):
Son someone brought it up recently.

Speaker 2 (31:16):
No one said anything about Giannis bringing his brother to Milwaukee.

Speaker 3 (31:21):
It's no new thing.

Speaker 2 (31:24):
And Bill Burr actually brought this up on Bill Mars
Show recently. Like nepotism, come on with that. If your
dad owns a contracting company and you work for him,
is that nepotism? If your dad owned a dental practice
and put you through school and then you started working there,
is that nepotism?

Speaker 3 (31:43):
You know?

Speaker 2 (31:43):
It exists everywhere. And the only reason rich that people
are hating on this is because they don't like Lebron James.
It's that simple. It's the greatest way to advertise I
don't like Lebron.

Speaker 3 (31:58):
Is that simple? Yeah? Is otherwise?

Speaker 1 (32:00):
Danny g you're a Lakers fan, You got your dude,
you got connect who. By the way, I think this
is great. He's wearing number four Connect four.

Speaker 3 (32:08):
Yeah. Yeah, so cool.

Speaker 6 (32:10):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (32:10):
I sent that graphic from the Lakers to you. That
jersey looks so perfect. I'm telling you, you guys are
exactly right about nepotism being all over the place in
every industry, especially ours. Look at Howard Stern his introduction
to radio. His dad worked in radio.

Speaker 2 (32:27):
His dad was an engineer. Yeah, I mean, you know me,
I worked the vending route with my dad. He's to
carry cases of soda for my dad was.

Speaker 4 (32:38):
Yes, my stepdad was unemployed for years. I was unemployed
for you see what I mean. Perfect.

Speaker 2 (32:44):
But the point is there's examples of this all the time.
If your father owned an automotive garage or it was
in the family secrets working there, you took over the company,
like that's all forms of nepotism or does nepotism only
matter when.

Speaker 7 (32:59):
It's in show business? Very public? This is Bronnie and Lebron.

Speaker 3 (33:03):
That's why.

Speaker 2 (33:03):
And it's a high profile story and Lebron's a very
polarizing guy, and that's why garners all this criticism.

Speaker 3 (33:10):
Rich That's really it. Otherwise, it's a beautiful story. It's
a beautiful story. And by the way, that lyric I
used to ride with a vending machine repair man. Was
that about you? Oh yeah, yeah me and Cheryl Crow
Oh I thought so.

Speaker 1 (33:22):
But yeah, I just want to put it out there. Well,
could end it with that, but it's amazing. It's just
a proof. It's proof that you hate Lebron James because
everything about the story.

Speaker 3 (33:31):
Should be beautiful.

Speaker 1 (33:33):
It should be like, oh wow, the father's son Griffy
Griffy Junior now Lebron and Bronni.

Speaker 3 (33:38):
But no, you're a bunch of haters.

Speaker 2 (33:41):
We caught up with a legend this week. It was
kind of cool. We met Puka Nakua at the Super Bowl.
We immediately knew he had great energy, Like, oh man,
not only is this guy tearing up the league, he's
super likable. So we had a chance to have him
on our bonus podcast yesterday. If you want to check
it out. It was a fun time. It's always a
fun show, over promised on Fox Sports Radio's YouTube page,

(34:04):
episode fifty three. They're all there on Fox Sports Radios
YouTube page. We also played was it Hawk Tua or Nakua?
So we had a lot of fun with pook Naka.
But joke Rich asked him about the very controversial story
in regards to Matt Stafford and his wife's podcast.

Speaker 3 (34:25):
If you want to keep got one.

Speaker 1 (34:26):
Of the most elite quarterbacks in the NFL, Matthew Stafford, Yeah,
I gotta ask to the guys of the team, are
they aware of his wife's podcast?

Speaker 3 (34:33):
Do they listen when she says stuff? We always debate.

Speaker 1 (34:36):
Whether or not you guys listen or talk about Kelly's pod.

Speaker 13 (34:41):
No, I actually just rarely found out about her podcast,
Like maybe I get the end of OTAs we and
Matthew asked he was finishing up, but he's like, hey,
I'm getting out of some trip going to New York
or whatever, and we kind of just mentioned about it.

Speaker 3 (34:53):
But no, it's not like it's not like a locker
room talker, right. I figured that because you know she
you know, she gossips and has fun. I'm like, I
don't I think the guys give it? Do you think
he do? You think it's so hard? There's over there's
so many stuff different coming out.

Speaker 13 (35:08):
I think Drew's probably the number one locker room talking ours.

Speaker 3 (35:13):
Now, if you rewind New York, look up for Good
flame Y. You remember there.

Speaker 2 (35:21):
Was two stories in recent history that involved Matt Stafford's
wife's podcast. There was the one where she exposed him
for not really vibing with the young players, which had
to make it uncomfortable in my opinion, But then again.

Speaker 3 (35:33):
I'm not Matt Stafford, I'm not on the rams. What
do I know. That's just my thought.

Speaker 2 (35:38):
And then she just recently talked about how they met
and how she used the backup quarterback to make Matt jealous.
She was dating the backup quarterback. Then she had to
apologize because it wasn't the quarterback. Everybody thought it was.
It became a thing, so we asked Pooka, were you
even aware of it?

Speaker 3 (35:57):
Do you listen? He said no? And I believe him. Yo.
I don't know why, but I do.

Speaker 1 (36:03):
It gets you thinking, and the question becomes how obligated
are you as a friend, as a coworker, as.

Speaker 3 (36:12):
A neighbor to support these people like in what they do? Listen?
I get it.

Speaker 1 (36:19):
Not every fifty three guys on the roster is going
to listen to uh, Matty Stafford's wife's podcast. But if
your next door neighbor is an accountant and it's tax season,
don't you feel a little weird talking to him about
taxes when you don't use him.

Speaker 2 (36:35):
Yeah, that's always awkward, especially for guys like us who
have a podcast. We're professional broadcasters with podcasts, right we
podcast this show. We have a Patreon Monday through Thursday.
Cavino and Rich Uncensored.

Speaker 3 (36:49):
Unleashed, Unhinged.

Speaker 2 (36:51):
We have our over promised what we were just talking
about where you could see the Pukaa Coola interview on
Fox Sports Radios YouTube page.

Speaker 3 (36:59):
It's a little odd for us when a lot.

Speaker 2 (37:01):
Of people always want to talk about the other podcast
they're listening to, when they don't even support ours.

Speaker 3 (37:06):
I listen. I get it.

Speaker 1 (37:07):
Everyone's gonna like what they like, and sometimes when you're
close to something, you oddly don't support it.

Speaker 2 (37:14):
Dude, I think I have about two friends in my
inner circle like that I grew up with that listen
to what I do.

Speaker 3 (37:21):
Two maybe two? That's so odd? And then any other
people have the nerve to tell me about the other shows?

Speaker 1 (37:29):
I find some I have friends that'll be like, man,
did you hear what Rogan said?

Speaker 3 (37:33):
I'm like, I don't give a crap about Joe Rogan.
Listen to my show.

Speaker 2 (37:36):
So, if you know a guy or one of your
buddies is a mechanic, are you obligated to reach out
to him first or does that appear as if you're.

Speaker 3 (37:46):
Looking for some sort of deal? Right?

Speaker 2 (37:48):
What are the rules here when it comes to supporting friends?
That's really what this comes down to. Eight seven seven
ninety nine on Fox at Covino and Rich and I
think it comes down to this, Rich, This is my opinion.
If it's personal, meaning like your your buddy's a proctologist,

(38:09):
all right, right, I don't think you go and see
your buddy, right if your buddy's a doctor, if you're
even if your buddy's a dentist, I think you know
that's still a little personal's medical. If it's too personal,
I think you go outside of that. But if you
have a buddy who's a mechanic, a buddy who's a contractor,
a buddy who's a landscaper, a buddy who has a podcast,

(38:33):
I think you support those things. Otherwise, who are your friends?
And it makes you reassess for your friends. Are you
know who my friends are? Then the people that support me.

Speaker 1 (38:42):
Well, based on what you just said, I feel like
there's a Caveno rule here. You said if someone has
their hands in your mouth or in your butt.

Speaker 3 (38:53):
'spersonal.

Speaker 2 (38:53):
I don't need my buddy to be checking up on
me in that case, right, But it would be nice
if my buddy or it would be nice if I
needed again, like I said, car work, and my buddy
happened to do that, why would I go somewhere else?
I think that's the way we need to approach these things.

(39:14):
I support each other because it does make things a
little confusing. It does make you question who really supports
you and who are your real friends. If all these
people are supporting you, right, but your friends aren't, what.

Speaker 3 (39:28):
Does it say about them? What does it say about
that relationship.

Speaker 1 (39:32):
I've squeezed in a few extra haircuts over the last
year because one of the dads in the little league
is a barber, and I like the guy a lot,
So I don't want to be like, I've got a
fresh fade not from you, So I rotate him into
my into my haircut schedule because he's a good dude
and I want to him.

Speaker 2 (39:52):
There's another I guess caveat to this discussion. There's there's
a loyalty, right, So sometimes you don't want to break
your loyalty to.

Speaker 3 (39:59):
Whoever you're got. I was previously right.

Speaker 2 (40:01):
So if you had a barber and you were loyal
to that barber, you might not want to break that.
And that's kind of fair. But if you needed an
emergency cut and your guy wasn't available, why wouldn't you
go to your friend? Otherwise I have to ask you,
we have to question all of our relationships?

Speaker 3 (40:19):
Are they really a friend? Rich?

Speaker 2 (40:22):
And I'm gonna use us as an example to make
other people think about it. Let's say Covino and Rich
are holding a big event. Hey, he's a Coveno and
Rich party, and anybody who listens is invited. You're all
invited to this party, a Coveno and Rich event. We're
giving away swiggies. It's gonna be awesome. And none of
our quote unquote friends show up. Are they really our friends?

(40:45):
Or do we have to really embrace the people that
are there supporting you?

Speaker 3 (40:49):
Yeah? I mean you're right.

Speaker 1 (40:50):
If you do an event and hundreds of people show up,
pack crowd, and you're looking around, You're like, none of
my buddies are here, none of.

Speaker 3 (40:58):
My real buddies. Well then there are they really your
real buddy? You know?

Speaker 2 (41:02):
Or maybe your friendships change along the lines as time
goes on.

Speaker 3 (41:06):
Loyalty as a factor.

Speaker 1 (41:08):
But if you have a neighbor, a friend, someone tight
with you, maybe a dad or mom at the school,
if they have a company, that's what people do that
you support those small businesses and those people.

Speaker 3 (41:20):
And you always think you'll look for a discount. You
leave that on them.

Speaker 1 (41:24):
Are buddy Nico, who I'm staying with in Phoenix along
my little, uh little journeys here. His wife does awesome
party work where she does balloons and set up, like
party set up and decorating. He tells me he just
said moments ago he hit me up, saying his friends
and people will show him photos of other parties, like, Yo,

(41:47):
look at this great decorating. He's like, you mean what
my wife does.

Speaker 3 (41:51):
Yeah, it's so odd, right, isn't it.

Speaker 2 (41:53):
Like I guess that's a matter of mixing business with
pleasure too. It could be a little sticky, But I
don't know, man, I think we need to reevaluate. We
got one phone call on this now and we got
a game to play. But we thought about this when
we asked Pooka Nakua again if he had listened to
Kelly Stafford's podcast. So, if you want to hear the

(42:13):
rest of that interview, Fox Sports Radios YouTube page over promise.

Speaker 4 (42:16):
But who do we got, d NYG. It's our HVAC dude,
Kelly in Florida, our h Kelly.

Speaker 3 (42:21):
What's up? How you guys doing anybody?

Speaker 10 (42:25):
Uh?

Speaker 11 (42:25):
Yeah, So I'm kind of on the opposite side of
this I've experienced, you know, friend needing.

Speaker 10 (42:31):
This and that.

Speaker 11 (42:32):
I I'm good at what I do, but sometimes it's
just it's set the nature of what I'm in I
didn't install your unit. I'll go there ten years later.
I don't know what the heck I'm in for, and
I kind of don't want to be in one of
those can of worms situations with a friend. It's hard
enough with a client.

Speaker 1 (42:49):
That makes sense because it makes sense because you don't
know what you're stepping into with that, but also you
don't want to feel obligated maybe to give someone a hookup. Listen,
Like Cavino's brother in law does h VAC stuff. I
needed some air conditioning worked on, and I was like, listen.
I started out by saying, Hey, Chris, I'm not looking
for a hookup.

Speaker 3 (43:05):
I'd just rather give you.

Speaker 1 (43:06):
My business than someone I don't know, So don't undercharge me,
don't overtruye whatever you would charge someone else.

Speaker 3 (43:12):
I got you because I just rather go to you,
because you're my y.

Speaker 2 (43:16):
Maybe they need the business. If your buddy opens up
a local pizzeria and you're continuing to go to another
pizza spot, it doesn't really make that much sense. He's
your friend, right, wouldn't you go there and support him?
Yet I find that we tend to not do it
as often as we should.

Speaker 3 (43:34):
That's really the point here.

Speaker 2 (43:36):
I'm not saying by any means that Pooka should be
listening to Matt Stafford's wife's podcast.

Speaker 3 (43:40):
It just made us think about it.

Speaker 1 (43:42):
But well, hey, the full interview, by the way, if
you want to hear our hang with pook and the
Kupa where we also played, like you said, is it
