Speaker 1 (00:01):
Hey, thanks for listening to the Cadino and Rich Podcast.
Be sure to catch us live every weekday from five
to seven Eastern to to four Pacific on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
Find your local station for comedo Rich at Fox Sports
Radio dot com, or stream us live every day on
the iHeartRadio app by searching FSR. I want every want
to think of their biggest takeaway from week one of
the NFL, because I'm gonna hit you with my right
out the gate, and that is hold on something I'm
calling not so fast.

Speaker 1 (00:28):
We have zero patients as a society.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
As Ronnie Chen, one of your favorite comedians, does that
bit Prime now, Prime now, Yeah, overnight Prime isn't even
good enough anymore. You want it day up, We want
it the second you hit that button Prime Now. If
you order something on Amazon and it says it's gonna
take a couple of days, your instinct was like, let me,
let me keep looking a day before I'm like, refreshed,

(00:55):
where is the ema?

Speaker 1 (00:57):
I want it now? Everyone's patience level is zero.

Speaker 2 (01:00):
So I want to bring up two guys that I
think perhaps we judged a little too soon. And the
first guy, you say, we maybe you will will decide
please eight seven, seven ninety nine out Fox if you
want to get involved. Like I said, the collectively and
one of those guys. And I'm not saying I'm a genius,
but Danny g you and I we were talking about

(01:22):
this guy, and I remember it was I was Sam
last week that said no way, I said, Sam, Darnold.
We keep judging him based on garbage teams. He was
thrown at the Jets, the Panthers, then he lands on
the Niners and he's a respectable backup and you you
felt like if he played instead of rock Party, that
team still even thought about it. He We never said

(01:42):
he's stunk. He was just in a bad situation.

Speaker 1 (01:45):
Iowa Sama, though.

Speaker 2 (01:47):
Yeah, I'm not trying to downplay Rich's point at all.
It's not like he was lighting it up and we
were like, yoh man, he's the greatest ever. That's not
my point either. I just don't think he was ever
in position. I don't think we ever truly blamed it
on him because he was in a bad situation.

Speaker 1 (02:02):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
People were very quick to be like Sam Donald must
usc quarterbacks and he did go.

Speaker 3 (02:07):
He did get caught in a hot mic saying I'm
seeing ghosts getting blasted in a game like that's pretty
damning seeing ghosts.

Speaker 4 (02:15):
It's a good one. Maybe she found ghost hunters. I
also though, what team was he on when that happened?

Speaker 1 (02:20):
Yeah? Well, also too.

Speaker 3 (02:22):
As we were rushing to praise Sam Darnold today, let's
not forget the team he just tore apart too. Might
be one of the two were one of the two
worst teams in the National Football League.

Speaker 2 (02:32):
The only thing worse than the Giants play on the
field was their uniforms.

Speaker 1 (02:38):
It's the only thing worse.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
The only highlight from the Giants game was the perfect
stumble from Daniel Jones.

Speaker 1 (02:45):
I have to say it was an improvement. His beard
looked great.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
That's the only nice thing I could possibly say about
the show. You're You're fishing so much as say something
nice about the Giants that the only thing you could
come up with is Daniel Jones.

Speaker 1 (02:55):
Looked a hand. And some want to focus on the positives.

Speaker 2 (02:57):
There was some still you see him there in frustration,
but in that frustration he had like perfect stubble. He
must have a new beer trimmer or something. And I
was the only positive because those uniforms are terrible. I
don't care if they're throwback their throwbacks to Terrible thrown
back into the trash and and they match the team
because they're playing terrible.

Speaker 1 (03:14):
dB.

Speaker 5 (03:15):
What do you think about well, number one, I think
that Chris Perfetts should stop trying to take you off
your high of Sam Donald. I mean it's one let
him ride, per fet I mean, who knows how long
this magic carpet ride's gonna go. It's like, like, seriously,
I thought the Giants could win the game. So perfect
example there, Donald proves a lot of us wrong. I
think the Cowboys domination of I don't know if the

(03:37):
DA contract guys trickled down to the team, but this
was a team that I was not expecting a lot from.
I didn't love their running game, and to go out
and just give it to the Browns, who I knew
were a bit shorthanded on the offensive line, but still
they've had a decent offensive line through you know, throughout
the years. But when you're short tackles, that hurts. But
just from start to finish, just taking it to Cleveland,

(03:59):
h Dallas arriving in week one.

Speaker 2 (04:01):
Well that's the thing. It's hard to figure out, Like
on any level. Let me be clear on this. Like
I went to my daughter's high school game on Friday.
She's a cheerleader, right, and I'm like, her team's not bad.
But for all I know, the team they're playing stinks.

Speaker 1 (04:15):
What do I know? Right? So you could say, hey,
the Cowboys, they look pretty solid. Dak Prescott plays out,
but for all we know, the Browns really aren't that good.
Let me just we don't know yet, but let me
just make a point ahead.

Speaker 5 (04:28):
I was just gonna say, just because it was my thing, rich,
at least the Cowboys weren't the Browns, right, Let's get
them credit for that and going out there and not
laying a stinker like Cleveland did.

Speaker 1 (04:37):
Agreed, it could go either way, right, and at least
they're playing good.

Speaker 2 (04:40):
But let's keep in mind a lot of the games
we're talking about, guys, are this is why Vegas, this
is why you know, casino owners and sports books are
swimming in their gold coins like Scrooge McDuck today because
that Dallas Cowboys game, they were two and a half point.

Speaker 1 (04:54):
Underdogs to Cleveland.

Speaker 2 (04:56):
So let's not make it seem like, you know, Cleveland
is trash and we expected this Dan Buyer said it best.
We were like, man, Dak's getting the contract. I don't
know what's gonna happen here. They put a whooping on
the Browns, and then you talk about the Giants and
the uniforms and everything about.

Speaker 1 (05:10):
Them stunk except Daniel John Stubble.

Speaker 2 (05:12):
That's the only thing. They were one point underdogs. That
was essentially a pick them. So it's not like the
world said, man, the Vikings are gonna, you know, lay
the shmack down. So these are all close games. In fact,
nothing really went as planned yesterday. And by the way,
I gotta ask Dan Byer because he's he's obsessed with
uniforms and helmets and he's the guru there. I kept

(05:33):
hearing on TV the sweet throwback uniforms. We all agree
they're terrible, right, because I'm like, what are you talking about?
Those Giants throwbacks were terrible, right?

Speaker 1 (05:42):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (05:43):
They looked they looked like the Montreal Canadians. They surely did. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (05:47):
You know, because I'm sitting there and I keep hearing
the sweet throwbacks, I'm like, are ain't joking me?

Speaker 1 (05:51):
Get out of here with that. But then, because for
a minute, I was like, am I grumpy? Old guy.

Speaker 2 (05:55):
As I saw Mike francessa from you know, back in
the day van he was going on a rant about
all these uniforms, like.

Speaker 1 (06:01):
Oh my, I might grumpy old guy.

Speaker 2 (06:02):
I hope of them because I thought they were all yeah, okay,
all right, just look. And I don't want to get
you off track blame for fet Rich because I know
you were making a point and that was Sam Donald.
Maybe we wrote him off, or maybe he was good
all along and just in a bad situation. That's what
I'm getting that maybe he's just playing weak competition, but
he played well. If you're gonna take the Dan Byer
angle of being positive, hey, it could have went the

(06:23):
other way and he played good. I'm not saying not
saying Sam Donald's Patrick Mahomes or Josh Allen or you know,
Lamar Jackson. But Sam Donald could be It could be
a guy that makes a playoff run. This Minnesota team
has a lot of talent. They're well coached. I think
we're very quick to say that this team is not great.
And the other guy, when I said my theme is

(06:45):
not so fast, I know you could say, well, yeah,
of course last year he brought him to the playoffs.
But Baker Mayfield. We forget, we were so high on
this guy when he was with the Browns. Hey, he
took the Browns to the playoffs after all those seasons
of like no wins, one win, two wins, and Baker
Mayfield took that team to the playoffs. And then they
were quick to be like yo, later, dude, we got
de Shan Watson and the world. So it was like

(07:07):
bigger Mayfield kick him in the garbage can.

Speaker 1 (07:11):
He had that moment with the Rams. The Bucks picked
him up last year.

Speaker 2 (07:14):
He had a great year in a mediocre division, so
we gave that a little you know, we e equated
that a little bit where a well was a bad
division and the Bucks made the playoffs. But yesterday, Dan Bayer,
you and I, I know we were very high on
Jayden Daniels and I couldn't even get Washington to cover
ten points in a teaser bet.

Speaker 1 (07:33):
You know, I thought a zero touchdowns. That's part of
my takeaway.

Speaker 2 (07:37):
A lot of these blend together, because again, my biggest takeaway,
like I said, are these young quarterbacks who really didn't
deliver much. But let's focus on your guy, Baker Mayfield
two hundred and eighty nine yards four tuddies again, just
hitting Mike Evans, real nice, perfect leadership, perfect passing. We
forget not only the abilities, but the vibe and swaging

(07:58):
attitude he brought to Cleveland. That's trickled down into Tampa Bay.
Now man, and that's fun to watch.

Speaker 1 (08:03):
Dude.

Speaker 2 (08:04):
I think he's a lot better than we gave him
credit for. He's twenty nine, Sam Donald's twenty seven. That
quarterback class of twenty eighteen was the Sam Donald was
the third pick. Baker, as you know, was the first.
We're very quick to be like, these guys are done.
They're in their twenties. They're in their twenties. They're young men,
young men in life. On the field, he's like forty five. Yeah, yah,

(08:28):
I mean they were their twenties. I mean, these guys
are twenties.

Speaker 1 (08:30):
These guys don't have gray hair in their stubble.

Speaker 2 (08:32):
He's in a perfect pocket of he's experienced now so
really looked impressive. But then again, how good are the commanders?

Speaker 1 (08:42):
Right?

Speaker 2 (08:42):
We don't know yet, but they dominated. But twenty it
really is, guys, Let's take it back to the basics here.
We don't know how good these teams are. This is
the first week we're breaking it down. What they do
now is they go back and they go over videotape,
they make adjustments, and we see the ability in the
teams to make those adjustments.

Speaker 1 (09:01):
That's what we really see next week. Listen.

Speaker 2 (09:03):
I I really do feel I don't feel like a fool,
but I'll leave it that I feel like a fool. Okay,
I'll tell you why, because I feel that Thursday and
Friday game, Danny g just for fun, we talked about
those teaser bets I did where I was like, all right,
give the underdog points and we'll we'll take the overs
and right, and and we won. I was owing three
yesterday on my tics that I did on Friday, and

(09:25):
I'm men enough to admit and I'm not the guy
that's trying to forget that. It happens every every parlay
or teaser better anything I did.

Speaker 1 (09:32):
Had one leg that I was like, what like sincintive?

Speaker 2 (09:35):
Remember I was, so, I was like, Cincinnati cheezer bet,
you just need them to wit.

Speaker 1 (09:39):
If I'm not mistaken, he said, that's.

Speaker 4 (09:40):
The luck of the week, you know, he called, that's
when you know the NFL season is back. That's what
Josh Hart of the Knicks tweeted out.

Speaker 2 (09:48):
I lost Josh Hart that there's never been a more
relatable tweet than Josh Harden Knicks when he did tweet
out the NFL's back. You know how, I know not
one of my parlays hit NFL humbles. You like, like
the Iron Chic, you think I will humble. It's like
the real world. Do you think you have you think
you know, but you have no idea. You have no idea.

Speaker 1 (10:05):
I don't.

Speaker 2 (10:06):
I know, we have a lot of things we're gonna
get to with, things that made you go hmmm, yeah.
But I want to throw one in now because we're
talking about these young you know, younger quarterbacks again, the
younger guy, like the youngest guys like the like the
uh Caleb Williams of the world and the Jaden Daniels.
How about a veteran that I really believed in that

(10:28):
so far? I know, it's one game. What was going
on with Atlanta? I thought Atlanta. I thought Kirk Cousins
was going to go in there. That was that was
the game I had. Game looked rusty, you know again,
coming back off of an injury.

Speaker 1 (10:40):
We don't know.

Speaker 4 (10:43):
Rich It looked like a preseason game for the Falcons
and they were home. There were a couple of teams
where it looked like it was their final preseason game.

Speaker 1 (10:50):
I had this feeling of before the game.

Speaker 2 (10:53):
Listen all week and people have been clowning on the
Steelers like this is the year it falls apart. Tom Wins,
you know over five hundred Tree. You know Russ, Wait,
he's not playing, Oh, justin field is in. Russ was
suited up though, and I heard his shoulder pads. I
heard someone say, it's the most ross thing it for
a guy, you know, mister unlimited dangerous. He's very very mister.

(11:14):
The most Russell Wilson thing ever is to suit up
with your shoulder pads on when you're on the ineligible
to playlist. I know he got a hate on, but
but I like it. He shows he's still ready mentally,
like he's still in. He's still in his shoulder pads.

Speaker 1 (11:29):
I see. But he was.

Speaker 2 (11:30):
He was a good hype man after it was like
flavor flav. He was hyping the team up. I appreciate
what just shows you a week one of the NFL,
we're all confused, because in my mind I thought, wow,
Atlanta at home against Pittsburgh. Sweet, I'll put this money.
I'll do him even money on I forget the four
points and he takes some accountability. We went over our
locks of the week. I thought that was the George
Foreman guarantee.

Speaker 1 (11:51):
Gante. I did because I was so pumped about Cousins.
There new leadership, let's do it.

Speaker 2 (11:55):
I have so many question marks in Pittsburgh, and you know,
it even came down to the day before. You know,
Russell Wilson's not playing. I was like, yeah, man, definitely
go with Atlanta. And I was wrong, but I do
nobody knew Man. There's so many surprises. You and I
talk every year about how don't thought the Patriots were
gonna win? Yes, break yo, congrats to Mayo. We say

(12:18):
this every year. Monday shows are the most fun, but
they're also hectic because your brain is going a million
miles an hour. That's why I want you to slow
it down and take a deep breath. That's take it
one step at a time.

Speaker 4 (12:28):
Rich That's why it was supposed to be one big
point in the open and then in the second segment.

Speaker 1 (12:32):
Things that make you go exactly.

Speaker 2 (12:34):
I can't help myself at the one big point, and
I'm trying to make it clear of Danny G. Dan Beyer,
profession Fox Sports Radio Nation. Take a deep breath. What
Rich is saying here is not so fast on guys.
We we meaning Rich rode off Baker Mayfield twenty nine
years old, lighten it up. Then again at the Commander's

(12:54):
that good? They didn't look that good? But he looked great.
Sam Darnold years old looked great. He looked really good.
Did we write him off? Was he just always in
a bad situation? Was he always pretty good? Now we're
just starting to see that, Hey, he had a good game.
Let's look at the positive here. Not so fast on
writing certain people off, which is why we're not going
to write off these other young quarterbacks. But you can't

(13:17):
help but notice that a lot of the names that
we were super hyped about really didn't deliver much on
their first game. And of course, look first game, jitters,
who the heck knows? People are moving a hell of
a lot faster in the NFL. There's so many reasons
as to maybe why it's too early, but we have
to make those observations. I've taken a deep breath. All right, good,
but what did Rick James say back in the day.

(13:39):
I'm sorry, Charlie Murphy, I'm having too much fun there.
I'm just man, I don't know.

Speaker 1 (13:45):
Drug.

Speaker 2 (13:46):
He said a lot of things he did, but I'm
telling you the so many observations, and this is where
you guys chime in the number eight seven, seven, nine
to nine on Fox Covino and Richard doing the show
live in Chicago today. And like I said, we spoke
at a Foxports Radio iHeart convention earlier.

Speaker 1 (14:01):
It's great.

Speaker 2 (14:02):
Yeah, you know, Danny, it just proved the point we
said this last week. It's wild how football Your mood
the next day is a complete reflection. This was a
room of people that had smiles on their faces. And
I even said it. I was like, you guys would
all be mad right now if there bears their cups
beat the Yankees yesterday and their bears pulled one out,

(14:24):
good for them. You think they care about the coffee
your Yankees yesterday.

Speaker 1 (14:29):
Yeah they're out of the playoff mix, but still about
a series.

Speaker 2 (14:34):
They got a nice little win out of it, but
their offense didn't score it all.

Speaker 1 (14:37):
That's a big, big takeaway.

Speaker 2 (14:40):
And look, Kaleb Williams was the first to take accountability
and say, oh, I got to play better, I'll be better.
I'm just glad we pulled one out and we said
all the right things. He said all the right things.
Danny G I think you'll back me up on this.
If you watched Hard Knocks, you learn to appreciate I mean,
that's the point of this show where you get to
know the players better. But you see a different side
of Caleblylliams, and I like the guy, so I'm rooting

(15:01):
for him personally. Yeah, and I think he said all
the right things. At the end of the game. You
just pumped the team one and he pulled one out.
But that's definitely one of my takeaways rich these younger guys.
I'm not sure who had the worst day, Kayleb Williams,
the jobs or Kayleb Williams.

Speaker 4 (15:14):
Not only do you get an appreciation for Kayleb Williams
behind the scenes, but the general manager of Chicago Ryan Poles,
very likable dude. And so for that reason I was
sharing on the Chicago Bears yesterday.

Speaker 2 (15:26):
Yeah, Caleb Williams, for a hyped as he is and
everything he comes with, you would think there's a sense
of arrogance about him, and there's not and that's refreshing.

Speaker 1 (15:36):
I like that about him. I know, go ahead, Dan, Yeah,
I was just going to say.

Speaker 5 (15:41):
You know what's interesting with the conversation you guys have
is what you are saying also has to do with
a lot of quarterbacks that we aren't talking about right now.
So maybe don't give up on Mac Jones, don't give
up on Zach Wilson. They're not in the spotlight right
now because they're backups in other places. But for the
sake of what you're saying with these, you know, with
the reformation projects like Sam Darnold, who's to say that,

(16:04):
you know, those quarterbacks you know can't revive their career
and go at a spot and actually succeed. So we're
not great I'm talking about them now, but they're gonna
be around and maybe they turn the page. Because my
quarterback is I think the poster child for that and
Gino Smith, Right, how many people never liked Gino Smith?
And then all of a sudden yesterday thirty four yard
touchdown run. You know it may not be the top

(16:25):
quarterback of his.

Speaker 1 (16:26):
Career, right, Yeah, that his career high. That was nice.

Speaker 5 (16:28):
Yeah, So I think that there's a lot of quarterbacks
that you guys are talking about that that you know,
can fit into this group that maybe just aren't even
on the surface, right.

Speaker 2 (16:36):
You know what, Dan Byern, it's a great point and
it goes even deeper than that because it applies to life.
You know, maybe the scene, the city you're in right
now just isn't working for you. We said that about
our producers Spot for years, Spot who's on our videos
at Covino and Rich were like, if he just grew
up in another.

Speaker 1 (16:51):
City, he'd be slain it with the ladies.

Speaker 2 (16:54):
You know what, I maybe I don't think Spot didn't
touch a woman his whole you know what, I mean,
this whole teenage twenty years, because he was the inspiring
story here is and again Gino Smith is the perfect examples.
Maybe you're just not in the right city that's vibing
with you, and there's hope for everybody. That's really the
main takeaway. It applies to life. Dare I say, Trey Lance,

(17:16):
maybe in a couple of years. Who there's guys that
are still so young.

Speaker 6 (17:21):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in

Got Fiemmi, and also those who can help us.

Speaker 7 (17:50):
In between the ears, anyone from a therapist to someone.

Speaker 1 (17:53):
Like Ed Milette or John Gordon.

Speaker 7 (17:54):
We've all been through some sort of adversity to get
to the top. We've all used different tools to Unbreakable
with Jay Glaser and Mental Wealth podcast on the iHeartRadio app,
Apple Podcasts or wherever you get podcasts.

Speaker 2 (18:12):
Going to the phones to say what's up. It's a
segment that we've been calling for years now.

Speaker 1 (18:18):
Yeah, for things that made you go hmmm, things that
make you go things that make you go hmm. There's
no right or wrong here.

Speaker 2 (18:32):
It's your observations from your opening weekend of the NFL,
your obvious servations, maybe thoughts on tonight's game whatever. We're
going to talk about that later for sure, but any
of your takeaways. Rich sort of kicked it off with Hey,
not so fast on some of these guys. We didn't
really care that much about Baker and Darnold.

Speaker 1 (18:52):
But your other observations, let's share them now. Again. Relyve
from the tyrack dot com studio and this show sponsored
by Draftking.

Speaker 2 (18:59):
Stay tuned because you'll hear more about DraftKings all it
has to offer throughout the show. DraftKings, the crown is yours.
And remember, after the show, the podcast goes up, So
if you miss any of today's show, be sure to
check out Covino and Rich wherever you stream your podcast,
and be sure to follow, rate and review. So Rich,
I couldn't agree more with you with the Baker and
the Darnold stuff. Right, But again, are they playing weak

(19:20):
ass teams? We don't know yet. But the other point
I was trying to make when you were talking about
them is these young quarterbacks that were super hyped on.
I'm not gonna be prisoner of the moment and be like,
oh man, see either must they're not that good.

Speaker 1 (19:33):
That's not it at all. But you can't help but
notice that.

Speaker 2 (19:37):
I mean, there's gonna be a growth period here, a
little bit of an adjustment, some growing pains. They didn't
look that great, your boy, Jaden Daniels. You and Dan
Byer have been talking about this dude for weeks. You know,
people have been high on Jaden Daniels. They'll figure it
out if you did watch that game. I did because
I had a teaser bet on Washington. There were moments

(20:00):
where you're like, all right, this kid's gonna be good.
It's gonna take a second now if you want to
tell me a good dance moves. He ran to win
and he was loving it and feeling it, and for
that I commend him, you know, the confidences there. But
he threw for zero touchdowns and the team didn't look
that great. I think one of the things that maybe
go this weekend, maybe it was less about the Patriots winning. Yeah,

(20:22):
you know sometimes is it like the more they were
good at the other teams beat Like to me, the
Bengals offense couldn't.

Speaker 1 (20:29):
Get going at all.

Speaker 2 (20:29):
I get it, no t Higgins, but Jamar Chase played
and they scored zero point zero points in the first half.

Speaker 1 (20:37):
That game was ten to nothing at halftime.

Speaker 2 (20:39):
And I know, historically, if you want to think back,
I'm pretty sure Joe Burrow has been known to have
some slow starts, but this was pretty rough. When you know,
back after an injury, people like yo Bengals back. A
lot of people at Fox Sports Radio picked him as
a possible MVP candidate. That division's really competitive. I don't

(21:00):
think he could lose what looked on the schedule to.

Speaker 1 (21:03):
Be a gimme game.

Speaker 2 (21:04):
That was just a major major when you look at that,
that division is going to be down to the finish
between Lamar and the Ravens, and you know, see if
Cleveland turns it around and Pittsburgh won, you can't look
back and say, yeah, Week one, we dropped one against
the Patriots, who Vegas had it what.

Speaker 1 (21:20):
Three or four wins over under.

Speaker 2 (21:23):
So that's Rich's big observation. But I was trying to
make the point of Jayden Daniels again through for zero touchdowns,
bo nicks, zero touchdowns, two picks, one hundred and thirty
eight yards in a loss to Seattle. He had a
sweet move, he ran one in. I like that athleticism
he showed, right, you know he has it. So again,
it's not doom and gloom. I don't give him dooms.

(21:43):
I give him all booms. But you know he didn't
look that great. Care you talking about that when he
stopped showing did a little the spinning depth, little little
spin move was nice.

Speaker 1 (21:52):
That was nice. That was a nice move. It really was.

Speaker 2 (21:55):
So again, these are all great players. We're gonna see
how they adjust. But these young guys Jayden Daniels, bow Nicks,
Caleb Williams, what do you throw for? Ninety three yards?
Ninety three yards? Didn't throw any touchdowns. Their offense didn't
score a touchdown, So props to Tennessee. But you know,
Caleb Williams barely he barely pulled one out bow Nicks,

(22:18):
Jaydon Daniels not saying oh, I'm just saying, hm, is
he gonna send will Levis an edible arrangement?

Speaker 1 (22:23):
Yeah? And again this.

Speaker 2 (22:24):
Is things that made you go, hmm, you clearly help.
But notice what these young dudes did yesterday. Eyes were
all over them really quick, emphasis on the word quick.
You guys have not mentioned the dolphins yet or the cheetah.
And he was driving a little too quick. And then
that was wild.

Speaker 4 (22:41):
Yeah, it was so I don't want to say funny,
but it was amusing to see the memes after the game.
I heim at ten thirty am and then him at
you know, four thirty pm in doing the handcuff celebration.

Speaker 1 (22:54):
Yeah, I was gonna say.

Speaker 2 (22:54):
In the minute he did the handcuff celebration, I'm like, oh,
I could laugh about it because it was a big
deal and he was really like heard bad at her.

Speaker 1 (23:00):
There was more to it.

Speaker 2 (23:01):
Well, you know what made me say hmm, and I
think it made the world say hmm, is you saw
it go viral immediately, like we got arrested. That was
the first thing that I know. But at first You're like, oh,
thank god, what's going on? It looked pretty aggressive, right,
you know, he was detained, he made it to the game.
Everyone want to know, you know, is he gonna play?
Is he gonna be in the game? Yes, he played
in the game and he played well. But what made

(23:24):
me say hm was how great he handled it. That
really made me say him at the end at the
press conference, I was like, you know what, he could
have went up there. I would have went up there,
I think and been like, you know, if these.

Speaker 1 (23:34):
Dudes, you know, embarrassing me like that, I'm trying to
get to the game. That was it looked uncalled for it.
You know, had every reason and right maybe to show
a little bit attitude.

Speaker 2 (23:43):
I think I might you don't like to be hassled
or haggled. You think he wanted to.

Speaker 1 (23:47):
Be hassled or haggled.

Speaker 2 (23:48):
So for him to take that positive approach and to
say he's going to use his platform to bring this
as as a learning moment, together moment and make things right,
I thought that was pretty awesome.

Speaker 1 (23:58):
Yeah, a great look for Tyreek Keill.

Speaker 2 (24:01):
I will say my thought was, and I say this
knowing that you know, I'm a big supporter of law enforcement.
What Miami Cup is going to give Tyreek kill a
hassle game day? And who is that guy? Mean that
guy that caught him? I mean I'm that guy. Do
you see the meme? It was Trevor Lawrence at a
cop uniform. But I to me, it's like, you know,

(24:22):
what type of a mile from the stadium, what type
of cop is boosting their chest out so much of
Like I'm going to be the guy that gives a
hassle to the star player on the team that everyone
here is going to see. But again, remember that guy
that gave scottiy Scheffler a hard time? Yeah, it's like crisis,
there's an opportunity, right and that was a great opportunity
to bring the team together, and he said that as well,

(24:44):
like he realized how good the team is when he
saw the brotherhood there.

Speaker 1 (24:49):
And I thought that was a major takeaway.

Speaker 2 (24:51):
And I think they could really take that and run
with it pun intended and use that to their advantage,
like use that as a as a together moment as
a team, and really used that fire moving forward. So
I think they they faced immediate adversity and that could
bring a team to the next level. So props to
the Dolphins. I think they're in a good position. Well,

(25:11):
Danny g you want to hit up the phones for
us back in Los Angeles.

Speaker 1 (25:14):
Things that made you go, hmm, who do we got.
Let's start with Ken in Stockton, California. What's up Ken?

Speaker 8 (25:21):
They to be non rich? Yeah, buddy blil, I got
a little grapes man. Detroy didn't beat Matthew Stafford. They
beat the Rams, right, they beat the defense man. Bring
back Aaron Donald And I know we're talking NFL. Guess
what take that? Notre Dame your twenty eight point favorite
at home?

Speaker 1 (25:41):
Yeah, Yahn was sleeping. You saw that. There's no chance
of him coming back.

Speaker 2 (25:45):
His wife posted a video last night, like, yeah, there's
no chance he's not coming back.

Speaker 1 (25:50):
Give up on that. But that was a great game,
no doubt.

Speaker 2 (25:53):
And you know what the best part about that game
was at our flight from Los Angeles to Chicago was
the exact time of that game, and American Airlines had
it on the TV. You know what I wanted to
say to kill time. Rich looked over at me and
he goes, you're not watching the game. I didn't realize
I had access to the game on the plane. I
was like, you waited to tell me in the fourth

(26:14):
quarter you had three You couldn't have nudged me to
tell me. But luckily I caught the game right at
the end when it got really exciting.

Speaker 1 (26:21):
Jim Carrey had extra mittens and uh metro gloves.

Speaker 2 (26:23):
And exactly like the hole, You've had these mittens, the
hold the gloves.

Speaker 1 (26:27):
The whole time. Yeah, we're in the rocket. Rich was
enjoying the game the whole time.

Speaker 2 (26:31):
I was sitting there like I didn't think we had
Wi Fi and you were staring at the window.

Speaker 1 (26:35):
I'm like, you know, it's the second half. You know.

Speaker 2 (26:36):
I was just going through my pictures on the phone,
deleting things I was just trying to kill time. Luckily
I caught the game in the fourth quarter, and I
think he got two great teams there.

Speaker 1 (26:46):
I love that rivalry. I love the sportsmanship.

Speaker 4 (26:48):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (26:48):
I thought that was a really cool takeaway and a
cool game to watch. Great game for your Sunday night, Danny.
Who else we got, buddy? Let's go to JP at Idaho?

Speaker 1 (26:59):
OKP? What's up?

Speaker 8 (26:59):
Man?

Speaker 1 (27:00):
What up? Joe Ponily?

Speaker 6 (27:02):
What?

Speaker 9 (27:06):
I'm just looking at the score from yesterday's Tampa Bay
Buccaneers game and speaker Mayfield the one to watch out for.

Speaker 1 (27:13):
Don't you think he looks good?

Speaker 3 (27:15):
Man?

Speaker 2 (27:17):
He looks poised, He plays well with his team. He's
earned the look. Think about this too. I was thinking
about this. These are our takeaways, right, things that made
you go hmmm. I mean he's been there for a
few years now, but I remember whose shoes he had
a fill and who he had to gain respect of.
You know, guys like Mike Evans were catching touchdowns from
Tom Brady, so for him to gain their confidence. Think

(27:38):
of how good he really must be. Yeah, it's like
dating a girl and her ex was like a stud. Yeah,
you really gotta step up. Let's go to Dan Buyer
for an update, and then we'll take more of your observations,
the things that made you go, what's up, Dan Rich?

Speaker 5 (27:52):
Did you just think Cavino is raw dogging the flight?
They just you know, gonna sit there, no music, no nothing,
gonna sit there through the whole thing.

Speaker 2 (27:59):
By the way, is it trend damn biome where people
on a flight do nothing and they call it raw
dog in the flight. And I'm like, yo, this guy,
why are you not watching the game? And he's like,
we have the game. I'm like, yeah, so happy, so
happy I caught the fourth quarter and overtime because that
was a really exciting ending.

Speaker 5 (28:13):
Man, that trend is the only reason why I think
I can say raw dogging on the air.

Speaker 1 (28:18):
That's why. That's that's why kitchen here has free pop tarts.
And that's all I gotta say. I'm loving this flight.
I'm gonna come back to iHeart Chicago. I took like
a wrong turn in the hallway and I like sprinted around.
I'm out of breath.

Speaker 2 (28:31):
I have a popcorn machine. You need to do more
cardio popcorn machine, Bud. That's all I'm gonna say. We
need to upgrade our la facility. We need some freebies.
Why don't you take some home with you? So, yeah,
we're here in Chicago, lots to talk about. There's definitely
some fun buzz in the air because the Bears pulled
one out yesterday. There's a great game tonight we're pumped about.

Speaker 1 (28:51):
But just a.

Speaker 2 (28:51):
Beautiful day in the neighborhood. Beautiful day in Chicago. Rich
has free pop tarts. He's pumped about. I took a
sweet a.

Speaker 1 (29:00):
Walk earlier today, Sunday flavor you want to try? Oh really, no,
I don't. Thanks, but sweet a.

Speaker 2 (29:05):
You't even ask me about my sweet at You know
what a sweet ass walk is?

Speaker 1 (29:08):
A sweet You'll get sweet asses down the street. That's exactly. Hey,
you took a nice walk. Look at all the sweet asses.
It's nice swee ass Whall. So I had a nice one, man.
So it's a good time to be alive.

Speaker 2 (29:18):
You got football, you got baseball heating up, and you
got a great game tonight. But my other takeaway, I'm
trying to stay positive. That's the point here, because of
course I'm not doom and gloom. I don't want to
be dooming gloom. It's too early to be doom and gloom.
Don't buy into all the hype and everyone saying these
guys suck and it's over.

Speaker 1 (29:36):
That's not what I'm saying.

Speaker 4 (29:37):
Wait, wait, you're so Covino. You're not going to burn
your Daniel Jones jersey in the parking lot.

Speaker 1 (29:41):
Not just yet. Thank you, dany G. Have you seen Yes,
that's exactly where I'm going.

Speaker 2 (29:47):
Danny G is super producing at eight seven, seven ninety
nine on Fox per Fete on the Ones and Tuesdaan Byer.

Speaker 1 (29:53):
Remember I said some ut uh ohs things that made
you go hmmm.

Speaker 2 (29:58):
Daniel Jones man just looking really, really bad, dude. He
has the big stat today more pick sixes and touchdowns
after his multimillion dollar deal four years was one hundred
and sixty million.

Speaker 1 (30:13):
Yes, since that deal he signed more. That seems like
a fake stat.

Speaker 2 (30:17):
He has three pick sixes, two touchdowns, but just looked bad,
you know what I mean.

Speaker 1 (30:22):
So that's a major oh for Giants fans. And you look,
we're from the East Coast. If you read social media,
all your friends are like, oh, it's over.

Speaker 2 (30:31):
I think Daniel Jones shot showed a lot of potential
back in the day. I think it's one of those
situations where you can't write him off yet maybe he's
in a bad spot. And then you got to Sewan Watson,
the other dude who signed a ridiculous deal, and he's
playing terrible like he's never played before. So again major
uh oh's there. It's like, Wow, they invested a lot
in Watson. He's not looking good at all. I mean,

(30:54):
they got dominated by the Cowboys and he looked like
he didn't know what was going on. Another thing that
made me go hmm, again, it's one game. It's hard
to tell. Slow start. They won the game the only
true New York team, Buffalo Bills. They were down what
seventeen nothing, seventeen three? Are the Cardinals actually gonna be

(31:18):
alright this year? That's something that I think people are
going to start to think, like, oh, maybe they got
something going on in Arizona, because, as we say, Josh
Hower had to sacrifice his body for that win, you
know what I mean, Like he put it all out there.
So all your observations from week one of the NFL,
we'll take more feedback, and I do want to focus
on Jordan Love and the Packers and Tom Brady. The
announcer Danny g I know you got the phones going,

(31:40):
so if you want to go the phones or if
you want to chime in more, Danny, I hate not
seeing your face, but we'll be back to LA tomorrow.
Any other observations, because I'm sure you and Brenda all
day we're watching all your NFL as well.

Speaker 4 (31:51):
Yeah, I don't know if I was ready or not
for the anxiety of watching my favorite team play.

Speaker 1 (31:56):
That was one takeaway.

Speaker 4 (31:58):
Yeah, pacing and cursing and punching the floor that part
of the new NFL season. I'm not sure I was
ready before.

Speaker 2 (32:05):
I saw you put your son CoA in a cute
little Raiders outfit in a jersey.

Speaker 4 (32:10):
He's got a little Max Crosby jersey. Does he look
at Dad like what's going on with Dad?

Speaker 1 (32:15):
No?

Speaker 4 (32:15):
I made sure to set up a little area for
him with hay Bear on my iPad, and then I'm
in the main living room with the big TV and
the Raiders game.

Speaker 2 (32:26):
So because I think that was the first time. The
first time my kids looked at me like what's wrong
with Dad? Was during a playoff game where they're like,
why is is that pacing and yelling like what's going on?

Speaker 1 (32:36):
Something's wrong with dad.

Speaker 4 (32:38):
I made sure not to snap too loud, and there
were some good takeaways. There was some positivity with that
Raiders defensive line. That front seven looks awesome the way
we figured it would. Christian Wilkins was a really good addition.
With Max Crosby now Alt and the Chargers oh line.
They did a good job pretty much protecting Herbert, although

(32:58):
Herbert didn't have a good day because the Raiders defense,
at least their pass defense really really good. Their run
defense something to be uh, some improvement desired there.

Speaker 2 (33:09):
But so you're saying your run defense is a little
suspect so good again. Good thing you're playing the Ravens
next week in the fourth quarter, if you want to
put a positive spin on it, Like you exposed these
problems earlier, so you know what to work well.

Speaker 4 (33:21):
Also, also the Raiders and Minshew had some turnovers which stunk,
but that kept the defense out there too long. In
the fourth quarter, they started to have some breaks in
that run defense and the Chargers and Dobbins went off
there at the end of the game, and then you
saw the two teams get into it in the end
zone with that little what do you call it a scrum?

(33:42):
Ye little tussle that was that was fun to watch
as a Raider slash charger, you know, viewer, and in
the stands there you saw it was sixty five Raider fans,
so good showing here at the home away from home.
But if Minshew can you know, limit those turnovers, get
in sync with his receiver and get some points on
the board, then that can really compliment that defense.

Speaker 2 (34:04):
Now, I don't want to be the old guy that
sounds like a hater my loan. Did you see Donald
Trump was not a fan of the kickoff, it's ruining
the game.

Speaker 1 (34:16):
He wrote something like that.

Speaker 2 (34:18):
I heard Mike Tarico after the game last night, who
I'm a big fan of Mike Turrico on NBC. He
made a snide comment about would have been nice to
see the Rams get the ball in overtime?

Speaker 1 (34:26):
Are we still unsatisfied with overtime? I agreed with them.

Speaker 2 (34:30):
Are we still unsatisfied? That we had this great game
and line scored on their possessions? So Rams didn't even
get a chance, and the Lions were probably pumped about it.
But as a as a guy who's watching a good
football game, I felt a little cheating.

Speaker 1 (34:43):
I agreed with him. On Matt. I mean I've been
on the other side of that, like last year, it
goes soothways. You're right, yeah, I mean.

Speaker 3 (34:50):
Game to the Seahawks without getting to touch the ball
in overtime too. But I think at this point, I
think we it's just it's what the NFL is at
this point. They just they can't. They can't keep going
these long overtimes. It's something they've just Yeah, perfect, you.

Speaker 1 (35:04):
Gotta be happy with that.

Speaker 2 (35:06):
In overtime, it looked like your team was just like,
as they point out on the broadcast, the Rams were
just on their heels and you guys were just run.

Speaker 1 (35:13):
You could have ran that.

Speaker 2 (35:13):
You could have ran that ball five hundred yards and
they would have just kept getting first down, first down,
first down.

Speaker 3 (35:18):
So that Georgia tech a coach, said run the ball.
That's exactly what the ryans at the end of that.
They just kept shoving it down the throats. It was
very As a fan, I would have said, it's very
satisfying to watch. I think it's even just a fan
of football, like I say, your stat this is the
least amount of passing yards in Week one of the
NFL in about I would say, uh, let's see here,

(35:41):
one hundred and eighty seven pass net passing yards in
week one.

Speaker 1 (35:46):
That is the lowest since tooth.

Speaker 2 (35:50):
No, no, I think it's the lowest since two thousand. Yeah,
I wouldn't be surprised, because I'll be honest. I was
looking at some of the stats and I was like,
wait a minute, there's I think did one guy throw
for three hundred yards? Not even did anyone? I think too,
I was the only guy that threw for over three
hundred yards threw Yeah, that's that's a passing yard average.

Speaker 1 (36:10):
Mind you. I think Uh, Anthony Richardson had some throw bombs.

Speaker 2 (36:15):
He threw a few bombs, but it was it was
wild to see that. You're right, there weren't a lot
of passing yards, a lot of running and uh, by
your Lions, they they look like they're going to be
great again. That was a really great game for fet.
You're you're a Lions fan, so I'm sure you were
to and I'm as a guy just on a plane
watching this. The last quarter was was intense.

Speaker 1 (36:36):
It was it was a great rivalry.

Speaker 4 (36:37):
I didn't even incorporate Amara Saint Brown a lot, and
the Rams hit put him in a box.

Speaker 1 (36:43):
For that entire game pretty much.

Speaker 3 (36:44):
It was it was kind of if you got it,
if you're saying Brown, you could kind of tell he
was getting frustrated a little bit. But that's why they've
they've you know, been trying to work in Jamison Williams.
And he went off last night too. He had one hundred,
one hundred and thirty yards the long bomb touchdown from
Jared Goff. He was he's kind of something refreshing considering
they've been trying to work in Jared Goffer really, I
mean Jamis and Williams for a really long time.

Speaker 1 (37:06):
Now.

Speaker 2 (37:07):
I heard in Dan Buyer's update and if Dan wants
to jump on, we were saying Jordan Love he likely
will not play, but he's not, you know, not being
ruled out. The initial reports were that I read, yeah,
but then again, who knows what you know, It could
believe it's three to six weeks.

Speaker 5 (37:24):
It very well could be. It very well could be,
but the Packers just aren't willing to go that far.

Speaker 4 (37:30):
Right now, here's a guy that just on the huge
contract you don't want to and there's a long season ahead.

Speaker 2 (37:35):
But do you think there's any narrative of let's see
how things go next week. Because the Bears play the Texans.
The Bucks are playing the lines like if if teams
in their division lose. I know you're not scoreboard watching
in a week two, but do you think depending on
how the rest of the division and the NFC does,

(37:55):
determines how quickly they try to rush back Jordan Love,
Where's that he'll just come back when he's ready.

Speaker 1 (38:02):
I don't.

Speaker 5 (38:03):
I think that the premise of what you're saying early
on in the season and where green Bay is may
not have as much of effect. They want to make
sure that they're fine for the latter part of the year,
so I don't think that they would rush him back
by any means. It's just surprising to me on how
they were ill prepared in this scenario. They brought back

(38:24):
Sean Clifford, who had been with the team, but that
was one of the surprises in training camp. As Green
Bay made that trade with Tennessee for Malik Willis, you
never think that you're going to need him in week
two of a season, but here we are, and now
he may be forced to start. And Malik Willis hasn't
done anything in an NFL regular season game that would
make you think that he is ready to step into
any shoes and help an offense you know, not even

(38:46):
be legitimate, but just you know, at fifty percent if
you will. So that's the concern if I'm a Packers fan,
because they're winnable games here and you don't want to
lose those winnable games. But it's a long, long season, guys.
And the clarification in the three to six weeks, Matt
Laflour did say today that he's not a candidate for IR.
So Pooka Nakula, who went on IR today is going

(39:06):
to miss at least the next four games. Could be
back for the Rams after that. But that does tell
you that Green Bay feels that, okay, maybe Love can
be back a little bit sooner if they're not considering
putting him on short term IR, which would have him
out for four games.

Speaker 2 (39:19):
I mean, Malik Willis last night, I just found it
not funny is the wrong word. But here he is
being told, hey, come in for the last hal mary
play the game. Like what an odd spot to just
be like, dude, you're in like that, that's an interesting
spot to come in and it's sort of an unfortunate
play for Jordan love to get hurt on you know,
the equivalent to let's be honest, like a hail Mary

(39:41):
trying to make something happen.

Speaker 1 (39:42):
That's not when you want to get hurt.

Speaker 2 (39:44):
But if you look at the Packers' next four games,
if you wanted to Kavinosa a month, okay, let's call
it down cults okay. And that's something we haven't mentioned yet.
Anthony Richardson and CJ. Stroud both look like yo, those
guys are legit and that division gonna be fun to.

Speaker 1 (40:00):
Watch those Did you see that long bomb from Richardson?

Speaker 2 (40:04):
Dude, old same, that was such a great one and
as good as Anthony Richardson looks, CJ. Stroud still pulled
it out, which was that was the coolest part about it, Like, wow, man,
what a bad those are two young studs.

Speaker 1 (40:14):
Yeah. CJ.

Speaker 5 (40:15):
Stroud, by the way, we know has a cannon and
hint Nico Collins for a big play here and there
threw for two hundred and thirty four yards on twenty
four completions. Anthony Richardson threw for two hundred and twelve yards.
I know it seems like he threw for more, but
he only completed nine passes. I know he that's some
impressive average. Yeah average more than twenty five yards per
completion yesterday. That by the way, not sustainable, but that's

(40:38):
what he did yesterday.

Speaker 1 (40:39):
I saw that with some water receivers too.

Speaker 2 (40:40):
If you look at the like fantasy leaders this week,
not a lot of receptions unless you were Cooper Cup.
But if you look at the Packers and who they're
playing to, playing the Cults then the Titans, that that's
a winnable game. You got to decide, what do you
think Malik Willis is pop You know it's capable of
if he had to.

Speaker 1 (40:56):
Then they play Vikings in the Rams. So it's again
it's it's so hard to this early on.

Speaker 2 (41:00):
But I don't know if the Packers want to pull
a twenty twenty three where they start out weak and everyone,
you know, remember last year it was just all second half.
A lot of people thought the Packers were just going
to jump out quick their own one with an injured quarterback,
not what they wanted.

Speaker 1 (41:16):
So these were our biggest takeaways of Week one.

Speaker 2 (41:20):
And look, I know Rich is super pumped to watch
the game tonight as a forty nine Ers fan. So
there's still lots to get to, but wrapping it up
with your phone calls at eight seven seven ninety nine
on Fox, Your phone calls and feedback eight seven seven
ninety nine on Fox, and of course whatever we don't
get to at Covino and Rich on social media at
Coveno and Rich. I think too, when when you see

(41:42):
what happens to love, it goes to show you the
I mean, I don't know if it's just all bs,
but when Tomlin says that he's just as confident in
Fields as he was in Wilson, the importance of having
someone you truly believe in behind you, you know, so
maybe we're going to see a lot more people stepping

(42:03):
up in a backup role. Malik Willis, here's your chance,
buddy boy uh any feedback, We'll take it at eight
seven seven nine to nine on Fox. Now, I would
like to turn the page for a second. If that's
cool to a.

Speaker 1 (42:16):
Guy pop see your style or Metallica style, like a
Metallica style for you. I like it, by the way.

Speaker 2 (42:20):
I know, yeah, I know you thought there was a
chance that they would do the Super Bowl halftime show.
But you know, before we get to Tom Brady, let
me bring that up because listen, I'm not disliking Kendrick Lamar.
I am just surprised because it doesn't pass the mom test.
And what I mean by the mom test is who
would my mom want to sleep with? No, I'm kidding,

(42:42):
I'm kidding. The mom test is your mom wants to
see Jim Plunkett, Joe Thigh. I don't think Joe Jim
Plunkett is doing the halftime show. It should be your
sister test, not your mom test.

Speaker 6 (42:54):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (42:55):
Yeah, that's a weird test.

Speaker 2 (42:57):
Your mom would say someone weird like I'm Sellickers and
his mustache. Yeah, Ritchie, I like Travis Kelsey's mustache. It
looks like Tom Seller. No.

Speaker 1 (43:07):
But the mom test is if you're asking your mom,
do you know blank?

Speaker 2 (43:14):
If they don't know, and your mom's sixty seventy years old,
I don't think they should do halftime If I asked
my mom, Hey, mom, you know who Rihanna is? Of course, Mom,
you know who uh Katy Perry is? Uh yeah, Ritchie,
I know Katy Perry. Mom, you know Lady Gaga, you
know Maroon five, you know Taylor Swift, you know, yeah,
you know? I think they she owes her they Oh,

(43:36):
I don't know they have something going on together. I'm
surprised she's not there there. Like we just mentioned Metallica,
there's there's there's so many options and there's nothing against
I have a teenage daughter. I see how these kids
love how I was so into that drama with Drake.
I mean, we got so much great music out of it,
but great music doesn't mean hits, and people who are

(43:58):
tuning in for the super.

Speaker 1 (43:59):
Bowl want to hear the hits. And there rumors.

Speaker 2 (44:02):
There was rumors of Miley Cyrus and I think we're
all fans of her. She's fantastic. There were rumors of
Lil Wayne, and I just know Master P said that
they got to get Lil Wayne involved if they want
to make it really pop for this halftime show. And
I think Kendrick Lamar would be open to that. I
think he has to do it because for as great
as he is, and no one's going to take away

(44:22):
how great he is and how he dominated Drake in
the past year. But when it comes to familiarity, no
one's going to be singing along to those songs. Young
people maybe, but you got to realize this, The super
Bowl is bigger than that. Kendrick Lamar is and I'm
let me let me explain before you jump at me.
He's a social media artist. I'm not saying I told

(44:48):
you not to jump at me.

Speaker 1 (44:50):
Let me explain.

Speaker 2 (44:51):
Kendrick Lamar is a social media artist in that he
is enormously popular among your kids. They gen Z twenties teens.
Kendrick Lamar is not played on mainstream pop radio. And
I know that because besides dominating Fox Sports Camino.

Speaker 1 (45:10):
Every day, I'm on Serious XM. On the pop channels.

Speaker 2 (45:13):
You know, we all the Kiss FM stations, Kiss FM
and LA Chicago, New York. The mainstream stations may have
played one or two Kendrick Lamar songs. Ever, that's not
his lane.

Speaker 1 (45:25):
I pose this question, which, as he is, how many
I know he's been doing it a long time, Danny G.

Speaker 2 (45:31):
This isn't to undermine him. I'm actually a big fan, dude.
I go out of my way to get tickets to
his shows. Right, so, I've seen the hype. I believe
the hype. I want to make that point, But how
many people casual friends of yours could sing along to
how many songs do you think they know?

Speaker 1 (45:47):
I bet you they can't name two. Danny G.

Speaker 2 (45:49):
My average person, not the music lover, the average person. Yeah,
I'm good, you said, because Danny G. You're a music
or music lover and you like hip hop. I know
Kendrick Lamar. You know Kendrick Gamar. We work in radio
and broadcasting. You keep your ear to the streets. You
have step kids that are twenty something. You got to
keep that in mind. It's the mom test. Think of
the last ten super Bowl halftime shows? Would your mom

(46:12):
know them?

Speaker 1 (46:12):
Danny Yes? Would you know Kendrick Lamar? I say no.
But as far as hit factor, he had a smash
hit with Taylor Swift Bad Blood. That is true.

Speaker 2 (46:21):
Let's open it up eight seven seven ninety nine, Oh Fox.
I was very surprised to hear this. I don't see
him as a mainstream guy like that. Again, is he popular? Absolutely?

Speaker 1 (46:33):
Do I love his stuff? Absolutely?

Speaker 2 (46:34):
Are we prisoner of the moment with the day like
us and all the stuff he came out with recently?
Probably Danny G, to put in perspective, built a career
in hip hop.

Speaker 1 (46:44):
Of course he's going to defend Kendrick Lamar.

Speaker 2 (46:46):
He loves and lives hip hop, and again, nothing I
could say could take away from his career and how
great he is.

Speaker 1 (46:55):
But I was surprised to hear it.

Speaker 2 (46:56):
I really was, Hey, Danny, I just texted you my
mom's number. See if you can get her on the phone. Hey,
I already got your mom's No, actually, she's in the
my contacts already, Rich from the last time she See
if my mom answers, I'll tell her to answer. And
I want to list the last ten Super Bowl halftime
shows and see if I could prove my point live
on the.

Speaker 1 (47:16):
Air and again. But I don't think this is about
your mom's age. It's always about my mom.

Speaker 4 (47:20):
Oh no, no, because you got it like uh per
feed off the air was mentioned and when we were
talking about Kendrick Lamar, he was saying, you got to
remember the age of Kendrick Lamar fans right now.

Speaker 1 (47:32):
They're not all kids. He's not just a viral sensation. Rich.
This guy's been putting out hits.

Speaker 6 (47:37):
Now.

Speaker 1 (47:38):
Those are the people that throw long money after guys
like you and me.

Speaker 3 (47:42):
We have to remember, as much as millennials have become
a punching bag, they are in their upper thirties and
forties now, like they are your core audience for sports games.

Speaker 1 (47:52):
Now time has moved on. Gen Z.

Speaker 3 (47:56):
Are the kids like and millennials grew up with Kendrick Lamar.
I to Danny's point, I'm not much. I love music,
but I know very little about rap and I know
Kendrick Lamar.

Speaker 4 (48:09):
Yeah, because Dan, let me make this last point. I
heard fire bumping Kendrick Lamar in the parking brod here.
People know, that's not the question.

Speaker 2 (48:18):
Everybody knows the name, everybody knows the drama from the
past year, especially right and all the great music.

Speaker 1 (48:22):
We got people. The average idiot with a beer helmet
on with his face painted ready for football couldn't sing
you to Kendrick Lamar songs if they were right in
front of his face. If it was a karaoke machine,
he wouldn't even know how to sing it. He wouldn't
know it. I give you more than two songs, no
way the whole you can sing not like us. And

(48:45):
he had Humble, all the Stars Pride.

Speaker 4 (48:49):
You know, he had to hit with Taylor Swift as
I mentioned Swimming Pools, Money Trees. He's had a slew
of hits. I mean, whether you guys are Dan respect,
I'm I'm not some super fan of him. By the way,
I like him. Yeah, he's a great rapper, but it's
not like I have a Kendrick Lamar tattoo.

Speaker 5 (49:06):
I think that the argument used to be of why
is this person the artist in terms of I don't
like their music?

Speaker 1 (49:13):
Right?

Speaker 5 (49:13):
It's and I think what Danny's arguing, which I think
proves your point Stephen Rich, is that he's trying to
convince you that you know all these songs when it's
other artists that you know their song You're like, I
don't like those songs.

Speaker 1 (49:25):
I know what they are.

Speaker 5 (49:26):
And that's the popularity portion of it, right, Like Danny's
trying to tell you that you may know these songs,
but when you would not want a previous artist, it
would be like, well, I don't like any of that
that music, that's you know that song?

Speaker 2 (49:38):
Yeah, you might say a grown man that's a sports
fan might say, yeah, I don't like Miley Cyrus, but
I guarantee you know ten.

Speaker 1 (49:45):
Of her songs. Sure, Yeah, I don't think that's the
case with Kendrick Lamar. That's the truth. I'm not a
big Taylor Swift fan at all. And recently we went
over it and you don't do twenty songs over twenty
Taylor Swift songs.

Speaker 4 (49:57):
Yeah, And I don't even like her because I went
song by song with him, because I took my daughter
to some Taylor Swift event and I go, Yo, you'd
be amazed how many songs you know?

Speaker 1 (50:05):
I was like, what do I know? Maybe like five?
I'm like, no, you know twenty.

Speaker 2 (50:07):
So I love to do that test and see how
many Kendrick Lamar songs the average idiot really knows.

Speaker 4 (50:13):
But the money demo is eighteen to thirty four. And
you're telling me that the money no having money demo
and whatever super Bowl sponsors are there, they're not spending money.
That's the demo most corporations are going after is eighteen
to thirty four, just like broadcasters.

Speaker 1 (50:31):
Well, look that's the number one demo.

Speaker 4 (50:34):
This is just my super But Rich is saying they
can't name two songs from him, That's the part I
don't agree with.

Speaker 3 (50:40):
Man, we're gonna don't do the test. You want to
try my mom real quart time show. I just we
got to remember we put the weekend on the Super
bowlftime show. I don't think people A lot of people
knew a lot about the Weekend.

Speaker 2 (50:50):
I think I knew more about the weekend than the
one billion percent. I can't feel my face like a
number one song at the time. Name another one, then Rich,
name another weekend. It's a good question, but off the
top of my head, I'm like, I heard him, you
know them?

Speaker 1 (51:05):
Yeah, I just but I feel the same thing. And
Buyer's right.

Speaker 4 (51:08):
Maybe you don't know the songs by name, but once
he's out there performing with guys like Little Wine, and
if other stars join him on stage, then it's gonna
be about his performance.

Speaker 1 (51:17):
How was the performance?

Speaker 2 (51:18):
Hey, you know what, I don't want to be the
show to hate something. So I'm hoping he's slays. I
hope he for those people that do doubt it and
and people that question I'm just questioning it, right, I
hope he proves me wrong, proves everybody wrong, and I
hope everyone like Rich's mom who doesn't know him, goes
away like as a fan. I mean, that's great. I
just googled the weekend and just because I stumped myself.

Speaker 1 (51:40):
There like a dope blinding lights starboy the.

Speaker 2 (51:44):
Hills, I mean one of the girls, there's a there's
a ton of them earned it like you would, you
would know the weekend and that was arguably one of
the lighter halftime shows, like ooh did he know?

Speaker 5 (51:56):
It was just and we did this with Usher last year,
and I feel like Ushu had more of the catalog.

Speaker 1 (52:01):
You can name fifteen Usher songs at that time.

Speaker 5 (52:03):
By yeah, we're like, what songs is Usher going to
actually play?

Speaker 2 (52:06):
That's fun to speculate. Again, I don't want to be
like Tom Brady. We're gonna talk about Tom Brady in
a few minutes. You know, this guy's just trying to
be a broadcaster. He's got a new job, he's doing
his thing. You should see the opinions and the feedback
that you read it. Everybody's so quick to hate on him.
I don't want to be that guy here. And it

(52:27):
doesn't matter what I say anyway, because Kendrick Lamar is
the man. But my first reaction was that there was oh,
over twenty years now, Cavino and Rich we've met people
from all over the country, all kinds of people, all
walks alive. And I'll tell you what, from first tand knowledge,
there's a lot of root and tootin dudes out there
that sure as hell don't know more than two songs

(52:49):
from Kendrick Lamar and their big time NFL fans. Yeah,
you think they know those songs? I don't think so.
And if they don't know those songs, I don't think
their wives know those songs. Maybe they're know those songs.
But you're really you're really avoiding a mainstream opportunity. Now,
you could flip it and say, well, that's really cool.
It's cool to see them give in this opportunity to

(53:10):
a Kendrick Lamar because he should be more of a
mainstream artist because he's that good enough talented. That's fine,
but you're gonna get backlash because there's gonna be a
lot of people that don't know him on a mainstream level.
Like that, I think that if you go any genre,
in my opinion, if you go any genre and the
artist has a completely cross over to the mainstream, it's

(53:30):
not a super Bowl halftime act until they really established.
Like Danny g I'm not saying it because it's hip hop.

Speaker 1 (53:36):
I like hip hop. I'm just saying you could say
the same if you said.

Speaker 2 (53:40):
Hey, Rich Luke Bryan's doing it, or you know Morgan Wallen,
or you said hey, you Rob Lincoln Park is back. Yeah,
what if you said, oh, dude, Shine Down's gonna do it,
I'd say I'd say, you know what, I would say
that Park, Lincoln Park, Metallica bands like that, why you
know best example by Zeus singer can't do it right now?

Speaker 1 (53:58):
Covino, Oh why not because of the controversy. Oh no,
she's great.

Speaker 2 (54:02):
I'm enjoying Emily Armstrong Lincoln Park a new single. It's possible, right,
But the argument always is what about Metallica? And I
always say, how do you deny Metallica's greatness? But they
are a little too rock for a mainstream stage, like
and you know what the super Bowl. I agree with you,
I do, and we agree, Yeah it's right. So for

(54:24):
as many people that want metallic, uh.

Speaker 4 (54:29):
See, I don't agree with that because I've seen them
live once and they were amazing live.

Speaker 1 (54:35):
I think it's all about the performance if they are.

Speaker 2 (54:38):
I know you.

Speaker 1 (54:39):
I know you for years now, Danny, and you know
a ton about music and you're really well versed.

Speaker 2 (54:44):
And I compliment you. You're one of the most knowledgeable
music friends I have. And I think you're letting it
jade your your what you're seeing and hearing.

Speaker 4 (54:51):
No, I think if I think if people don't know
these artists that we are passionate about them, we need
to teach them about these artists.

Speaker 2 (54:57):
You know, there's some truth to that that that's the
well you should know effect, right, Like what is easy? Well,
maybe you should know It's like you ever see this
is our our MTV whoever's hosting the MTV Video Music words, Right,
You're like, who the hell is that? That's their way
of saying, well, then you should know this person.

Speaker 4 (55:13):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (55:14):
And if if I'm not mistakenus Megan is stallions.

Speaker 2 (55:17):
Here, no one should take pride in being dumb, meaning
like when the or out of the loop. You always
had that one person, Oh I've never seen one episode
of Game of Thrones?

Speaker 1 (55:25):
What do you want a cookie? What do you want
to congratulations because you're so out of the loop?

Speaker 2 (55:28):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (55:29):
Damn? Byer your thoughts, buddy.

Speaker 5 (55:30):
Yeah, I just want to I want to get on
on this because there's two things. Number One, assists from
Ryan Berschinger. Ryan made the point of the respect that
Kendrick Lamar has Ryan one of our top producers here
at Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (55:42):
From from who jay Z that makes these discisions.

Speaker 5 (55:44):
That's the point that I was going to say was
that it's the old saying of he's your favorite rapper's
favorite rapper. That's what I think you could say about
Kendrick Lamon's a good point, right, And when you look
back at the Super Bowl halftime show that you had
in LA, he was fifth of the five people that appeared. Like,
if you for for popularity reasons, Dre, Snoop, Eminem, and

(56:08):
fifty Cent would all be bigger draws at a super
Bowl than Kendrick Lamar was when he appeared. Now, he
may have gotten tons of love from that generation, but
there's when you want to talk about the names and
the people, and like that's what we're talking about in
that group of people. I would say generally he was
number five in terms of popularity at a super Bowl

(56:29):
just three years ago. Now we're putting him number one.

Speaker 2 (56:32):
Like that people who live in third world countries would
recognize Snoop Dogg in a second.

Speaker 1 (56:37):
Yeah. But you know what, here's an interesting thought.

Speaker 2 (56:40):
If you asked the one hundred and six players that
are playing in Super Bowl fifty whatever in New Orleans,
I bet you this is one of the more popular acts.
I bet you all the players because they're young dudes
in the loop. You think you think they cared about
you think they cared about the who you know, Like, no,
not at all. But especially if you want hard knocks.
When they do the talent shows and they have these

(57:02):
like you know, these white dudes start rapping or whatever,
you'll never feel older because you don't know the words
you're watching. It's like, man, everybody knows this but me
right now. But you're also assuming that everybody watching his
super Bowl is like thirty and under.

Speaker 1 (57:16):
That's not the case. You know, let's go rapid fire
on the phones.

Speaker 2 (57:21):
But the fact that Bursch in the editing studio so
that he's he stretch me as the type of guy
that like listens like Mufferins on.

Speaker 1 (57:26):
So the Bursch is a big Turnstile fan, like he's
a big music fan. Not everybody's a big big music fan.
And I think it's, uh, it's an interesting one. I'll
leave it at that because I am a fan who
we got Danny j. When Bursch gets to the parking Grune,
he puts a do rag on. Yeah you know what,
I didn't know this side of him. He wears adult rag.

(57:49):
He's a. He's a different man since he had his
carburetor stolen. Let's go to Sean in Sacktown. What's up, Sean?

Speaker 10 (57:58):
Yeah, my graduate tellolumni man real quick. Y'all too are
probably parted out more music than I know in the
last twenty years. Y'all are some serious XM pros and
local New York this jockeys all that. But I got
a vouch from my guy Danny g And here's the
reason why. Man, that drama proved that he has pull
online and all of those Drake fans are gonna be

(58:19):
watching how to hate all those other rappers that my
man the Update anchor just named.

Speaker 11 (58:24):
Those are all.

Speaker 10 (58:25):
Guys affiliated with Kendrick Lamar. So the buzz that he's
gonna get.

Speaker 2 (58:28):
Going in them, he's affiliated with them. Look, I'm not hating.
Look the same way we brought up Lincoln Park. Right,
there's so many people that are against the new lead singer.
My advice to them is be open to it. And
I want to be consistent, and I'll say, even if
you're on the fence like we are about Kendrick Lamar
or about this performance, as you said, we should all
be open to it.

Speaker 1 (58:49):
Of course, I'm just surprised by it.

Speaker 2 (58:51):
But I think the feeling and sentiment I want you
to get from the Cavino and richho here is yeah,
we're surprised, but be open to it. You don't have
to hate everything, and that's what I'm getting sick of
every hate and everything.

Speaker 4 (59:03):
You guys will go to a different part of the country.
Andrew in Texas, Drew, Hey.

Speaker 11 (59:10):
Yeah, my thing was my kids roll over the Kendrick
mar thing. They told me about it. They were excited.

Speaker 1 (59:15):
Yea.

Speaker 11 (59:16):
I stopped really caring about it when they were in
Detroit and they had nobody from Motown. So you know,
figure it out. Super Bowl You're in Detroit and no Motown.
I mean it was the Rolling Stones, which was awesome,
but no Motown.

Speaker 1 (59:29):
Yeah, that that seemed like an opportunity missed. I agree
with you. Well, you know what, I'll look at the time.
We got to go to Dan for an update.

Speaker 2 (59:34):
But let's push the Tom Brady conversation till tomorrow and
we'll take the rest of your feedback.

Speaker 9 (59:40):
Kavina, Rich Danny, get Dan Byern what's up guys now,
I know you know getting we're getting all time, and
so I'll make it squeak, but I think I'm not
really surprised at all that they take Kendrick Lamar.

Speaker 11 (59:50):
And here's why.

Speaker 9 (59:51):
If you were on TikTok or Instagram literally every other
video back in May wasting dancing like here in that
beat of not Like Us. So I think he's kind
of just forced into everybody's heads. And to comment on, oh,
you can't name more than two Kendrick songs, and I mean, yeah,
maybe be an age thing, But my argument for that
would be if I were to call my grandma right
now and be like, hey, Grandma, name two Rihanna songs.

(01:00:12):
I don't think she's doing it, but.

Speaker 2 (01:00:14):
I think it'll be recognition. I think she might, you know,
a sixties mainstream song. Yeah, who got next? Danny John
and Boise. Rihanna has hit after hit after him.

Speaker 1 (01:00:24):
That's true. What's up, Joe, What's up?

Speaker 8 (01:00:27):
Guys? Take quick question?

Speaker 9 (01:00:28):
With all this Drake and Kendrick Lamar beef, do you
guys think Drake would actually be a better fit, because
I think Drake has a lot more hit, Drake.

Speaker 2 (01:00:36):
Has more mainstream, but I think he's not as cool
as Kendrick Lamar in the eyes of the younger Demo bam.

Speaker 4 (01:00:41):
He so.

Speaker 1 (01:00:43):
One more? Who we got Danny, Bob and Queen's Yo
Queens New York. Let's go Mets. What's up man?

Speaker 10 (01:00:48):
Hey, what's up?

Speaker 8 (01:00:49):
Well, let's go Yan Okay, what's up?

Speaker 9 (01:00:52):
I'm sorry?

Speaker 1 (01:00:54):
Quickly buddy, twenty seconds?

Speaker 6 (01:00:56):
Oh yes, okay, here we go.

Speaker 9 (01:00:58):
I love Kendrick, mom, but little Way, this is Low Orleans.

Speaker 8 (01:01:01):
It's little Wayne Land and he's been.

Speaker 11 (01:01:03):
Them in the place, the place for several years.

Speaker 1 (01:01:07):
Yeah, so that's why I thought it might be Wayne.
But maybe he comes out with Kendrick. Who knows.

Speaker 2 (01:01:11):
Hey, maybe we'll continue this tomorrow. We'll talk Tom Brady
will do Mahomes trivia. Today's show way too fast, catch
the pot if you missed any and we'll see you
guys back in Los Angeles tomorrow. Until then at cobnon
Richer Rivederci Baby, see you in the Promised Land.
