Day on the iHeartRadio app by searching FSR. Hey, Iowa, Sam,
it's so good to see you Monday. I was Sam.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
I love all the employees here at Fox Sports Radio,
but when you're here, put a smile on my face.

Speaker 2 (00:31):
Buddy boy, Iowa. Sam brings good vibes.

Speaker 1 (00:33):
He's on the ones and Tuesa and we really truly
have not only the best listeners and the best fun
in all the land, but we have the best producer,
Danny g super producer. He's got a game ready for
us today, a Tuesday edition of Last One Standing. The
only thing that sucks about that is Dan Byer's here
and he always wins his ass. Today, all right, yeah,

(00:54):
bringing the fat, not today. I know when Dan's out,
I'm like, this is my chance. But Dan is here.
He's got your updates spots on the videos. Like I said,
the greatest team in all the land. Covino and Rich
broadcasting live from the Fox Sports Radio studio.

Speaker 2 (01:09):
Let the wild rump start.

Speaker 1 (01:10):
You asked me, do I talk the talk and walk
the walk and all that nonsense. I said at the
end of yesterday show, I said, listen, I don't love
the bet, but I'm going Vikings because JJ McCarthy had
two hundred and fifty friends and family showing up at
Soldier Field hometown kid played against probably the team he
rooted for as a kid, the.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
Bears and Skull Brother School.

Speaker 1 (01:31):
I'll tell you something. You know where I want to start.
I want to start with the emotional, weird roller coaster
of reactions on social media last night, because it was
sort of a tale of two halfs and it just
shows how how fickle and how lame people are. If
you watched the first half of that game, you know

(01:52):
what you were seeing. You were seeing Caleb Williams has arrived.
McCarthy stinksumber. Look at my tweets at and Rich, at
Steve Covino, Chris the real English. Chris hit me up
first half of the game about JJ McCarthy might be ass.
He was already to categorize him, Yeah, as might be ass,

(02:13):
but he spoke too soon. So it is it's the
fickle fan, especially in the NFL. We react quick, and
that's just how it is. I mean, we all do.
We're all prisoners of the moment, as Danny G likes
to say. But everybody was quick to write off JJ
McCarthy and Caleb Williams was the guy. The storylines changed

(02:33):
throughout the game so fast that we have to go
over it.

Speaker 2 (02:36):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:38):
I can't imagine anyone not sort of feeling the way
I felt unless you hate the Viking so much and
anything affiliated with.

Speaker 2 (02:45):
Them hard to hate. JJ McCarthy.

Speaker 1 (02:49):
He seems like such like a young fun kid, got
the locker room fired up his interview with Lisa Salters
after the game, like everything about the kids seems like
I was setting up some of our Viking fan friends saying,
I think it's safe to say you could buy that
jersey for your kids. JJ McCarthy seems like he is,
you know, a good fixture in Minnesota, a lot of

(03:10):
young energy. He has the whole Bryce Harper look on
his face. I know, I'm face black hall go, I know,
ready for battle. I'm basing that off of a half
of football. But still I think you saw moments where
you're like, all right, he's got some composure, he could rush,
he could move the ball.

Speaker 2 (03:28):
I don't know, JJ McCarthy.

Speaker 1 (03:30):
If I'm a Minnesota Vikings fan, I feel like you
got a pretty cool fixture if things go the way
you want them to, right, right, So let's go through
the emotional roller coaster. Let's go through that meme that
Danny G sent us again. Super producer Danny G's on
the phones at eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox
every Monday, we do things that made you go hmm.
In the weekend of football and sports and entertainment. What

(03:52):
were your takeaways from last night? You know, it seemed
like the Vikings fans have something to cheer about, Like
you said, my first take away as hey man, you
got a superstar, young superstar in this kid. That was
the same takeaway I had Rich. I liked how a
young kid could be a true leader like that and
take over the locker room like we saw after the game,
getting everybody all fired up and invested in him and

(04:14):
the team. I think that's important. I didn't notice that
that was a great takeaway. I noticed how it looked
like people were high on Caleb Williams, and by the
end of the game they weren't.

Speaker 2 (04:23):
I can't imagine.

Speaker 1 (04:25):
I can't imagine how it jumped this much, But they
just splashed a graphic on one of the TV screens here, Yeah,
that the NFC odds have jumped up in favor of
the Vikings and because of that bad loss to the Packers,
the Lions' odds have dropped dramatically, just fashed off a
one week It just shows me that that's all you
have to work with. It goes along with the overreaction

(04:46):
that we're talking about. I saw a lot of people
apologizing in a funny way to JJ McCarthy last night,
because honestly, Jeff Kings put this out on social media.
In a matter of three hours, we saw tweets of
people's and MVP bound Caleb Williams Super Bowl Bears, then
it was the normal Bears, then it was first Round

(05:08):
Bush JJ McCarthy to ooh, this guy's the legitigate top
ten quarterback in the league.

Speaker 2 (05:14):
So you saw the swing of emotions it was.

Speaker 1 (05:17):
That was the emotional roller coaster of Monday night football,
which here's how I was feeling.

Speaker 2 (05:25):
I think it's a boring game.

Speaker 1 (05:26):
That's how I felt for most of it, and all
of a sudden, I was like, ooh, pretty good game.

Speaker 2 (05:31):
That's right there.

Speaker 1 (05:32):
The national roller coaster. Would you say, is it safe
to say that after week one? And we would love
your reaction from last night most Interactive show Let's Go
eight seven, seven, nine to nine on Fox. We could
talk Vikings, Bears, we could talk about anything week one
of the NFL because now we're sort of in that
mindset where it's like, all right, we've consumed week one,

(05:53):
Now where are we looking as we head to week two?
But my thought is, forget is that game? Every game
seemed to be relatively close except one game, and that
was the ass whoopon that the Dolphins took. And I've
heard a lot of people saying that, I don't know, man,

(06:14):
I thought Green Bay handled the Lions surprisingly nice, right,
and they the Packers just like convincing you won that
and the whole time where you were thinking that the
Lions were gonna come back because they're the Lions, but
they just never seemed to get into that groove.

Speaker 2 (06:31):
But all credit to the Packers for you. I mean,
you could imagine, let's see, let's look at week two.

Speaker 1 (06:36):
As you know, I felt like they won that whole
game because it was just so surprising to me. I
thought it was gonna be much closer.

Speaker 3 (06:41):
I am.

Speaker 2 (06:42):
I already schedule watching. Oh no, look, the rich loves
to look at the schedule, game schedule watching.

Speaker 1 (06:52):
Yeah, Phill's Ravens was clearly the game week one, but
then you got the Chiefs Eagles coming.

Speaker 3 (06:57):
Up this week. Already, You've been doing this three months.

Speaker 2 (07:00):
I've been looking.

Speaker 1 (07:01):
I've been mapping out the forty nine ers path to
eleven plus games. All right, Bears Lions Week two, Lions
are favored by five and a half, so there's a
sentiment that the Lion's rebound and put a little whooping
on the Bear's Week two almost a touchdown favorite. But
I think seeing Miami get whooped like that that they're
the only fan base that I think came out of

(07:22):
Week one really discouraged. Maybe the Carolina Panthers because it's like, damn,
Bryce Young, we can't We're still not close, huh. I
would say, anyone to Giants got to be way discouraged,
but they have high hopes.

Speaker 2 (07:35):
Anyway.

Speaker 1 (07:35):
The Giants have Jackson Dart in the wings, and they
have some excitement with some players that they feel like
may may come into their own. I think if you're
a Carolina Panthers fan, your sentiment is, wow, we're just
not making progress. And I think if you're a Dolphins fan,
you're thinking, wow, we had a little window a couple
of years ago with Tyreek and Tua and everyone, and
now it's now it's like coach on the hot seat.

(08:00):
One team that got whooped by who the Colts. He
got whooped by Daniel Jones.

Speaker 3 (08:03):
Like Danny Dimes, like the Yeah Superstar. I think the
Colts never punted in that game. I saw something, Yeah
scored on every possession. I saw that Daniel Jones.

Speaker 1 (08:14):
It was one of those funny memes where it's like
there's been only one quarterback in the Super Bowl era
that has led a scoring drive on every possession, and
that is Daniel Jones.

Speaker 2 (08:23):
Two hundred and seventy two yards.

Speaker 1 (08:25):
So anyway, long story short is, as we you know
now reflect on week one because it's already time to
look forward to Week two. The only fan base is
that should be really discouraged. In my mind, Coults beating
up on the Dolphins makes the Dolphins just it's rough
to be a Dolphins fan in this moment. And I
think the Carolina Panthers. Not that the Jags are bad,

(08:48):
but maybe you thought that would be more of a
battle and maybe Carolina would you know, surprise people, Dan Byron,
am I missing any fan base that should be really Saints?

Speaker 2 (08:57):
So the Saints, No, they're they're gonna be bad.

Speaker 4 (09:00):
I don't know, And I hate their overreaction to Week
one because I do it as well. Yeah, I don't
know how great you feel about the Bears. Not that
their future isn't bright, but the future may not be
with Caleb Williams considering how the second half of that
game went yesterday, Like you didn't get blown out, but
you had a game that you were winning. You're winning

(09:21):
for three quarters and now to have that I would
have a not a great feeling in my stomach coming
away with the first game with Ben Johnson as your
head coach.

Speaker 1 (09:31):
Wouldn't that be the Bears defense? Though they would have
twenty one points in the fourth quarter? Ye, I mean,
but their future isn't built on their defense. Their future
is built on Caleb Williamson to not see that growth.

Speaker 2 (09:41):
That's why you get Ben Johnson.

Speaker 1 (09:42):
That's why you have Caleb Williams, That's why that's you know,
you're building an offensive team.

Speaker 2 (09:46):
I think you're right.

Speaker 1 (09:47):
Overreactions are clearly there, but you know, and everybody's defense though,
it's all we have to work with. So we're just
dissecting it as it goes. Of course, it changes almost
like a court case. The only the only with the
evidence you have. Yeah, yesterday's game was a was a
micro cosm of the emotional roller coaster that each week
gives you. Of course, I mean clearly, just we're we're
dealing with a sample size. We realized this conversation is ridiculous,

(10:08):
but everyone's having it and it's fun and it's football.

Speaker 2 (10:10):
We love it.

Speaker 4 (10:10):
And I just nominated a team that was up seventeen
to six after three quarters, you know, so like so
like we're like to that to that point, Yes, it's
sometimes overreaction a week.

Speaker 2 (10:20):
It's how it is right now.

Speaker 1 (10:21):
And then, dude, it's not college football where one or
two losses might have you on the outside looking in
at the playoffs, but no one wants to start oh
and two. And there's a there's some decent teams that
could start oh and two. Oh, let's break it down,
and you know, like the Chiefs might start own. I
think the Chiefs are going to start oh and two
and very well might be. And my out on a
limb pick here at the Fox Sports Radio studios, my

(10:42):
out on a limb, Chiefs missed the postseason. That's gonna
be my rooting interest all year. Sorry Mahomes, Sorry Kelsey.
I love the layer of this where what if the
Chiefs just don't get any of those breaks or the
ball doesn't bounce their way and their schedule is tough
because they were fifteen and two last year, I think
ten and seven and be you know, nine and eight.
That's not impossibly. So again, the emotional roller coaster you

(11:07):
witnessed last night, your observations, your takeaways, Props again to
the Vikings for pulling that one out with a big
fourth quarter. Eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox is
the number eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox. We'll
go to your feedback and yeah, your observations. Do you
want me to give you some teams that could likely
start oh and two and tell me if you think

(11:27):
it's just a terrible situation, just.

Speaker 2 (11:30):
Do it, all right, Jets play the Bills. Yeah, no chance.
So even though they looked explosive, they looked good.

Speaker 1 (11:35):
That just shows you that Boswell sixty our field goal
really sucks ass even more because the reality is, oh,
you could have won that game against the Steelers on
the Jets, and then if Bills are hurt, that good.
If you lose to the Bills, it's no shame in
that game, and it would have been one in one.
But now the Jets could very well be the Jets
at oh to two. Yeah, the Patriots or Dolphins are
going to be oh and two, and I think the

(11:56):
Patriots would be thinking, oh, we thought we were going
to turn it around this year and oh to two
is not great. The Dolphins owing two would just mean
it's a nightmare season already. Giants and Cowboys. If somehow
the Giants, I mean, it's either gonna be Giants lose
and we're calling for Jackson Dart or the Cowboys lose
and it's oh my god, they lost to the Giants.
This thing is falling apart. There's a lot of these scenarios.

(12:17):
Well I'll go over all them, but let's go to
your feedback. We'll say how to trade. I think it's
sick to say Giants go oing two even though they'll
probably play tough against the Cowboys. Oh and two for
the Giants. So yeah, that's why it's so important to
set the tone, as we established yesterday. And by setting
the tone, we don't mean just sex the first day
of vacation. Yeah, that's you mean getting a nice win

(12:39):
in week one? Because can I give you one for
the Sunday night matchup this week?

Speaker 2 (12:44):
Yeah? If at home? Oh, let me give you this.

Speaker 1 (12:52):
It's it's the Falcons and they're at the Vikings And
after seeing JJ McCarthy last night, if you think at
home Vikings should get this one. Theon the Falcons starting
owing to with Michael Pennock juniors, is that a I mean,
oh two's rough start? Is that a oh man? Or
is that Hey, we just had a rough start to
the season. You lost to the division rival Bucks, and
now you're going to go on the road on Sunday night.

(13:13):
Oh and two for the Falcons. Isn't awesome for them?

Speaker 4 (13:16):
I mean it's also not a guarantee. I think the
phrase would be it's not ideal. I don't think that
Pennix is in danger. They're not going to replace them
with Kirk Cousins exactly. But it's not an ideal start
to the season at oh and two when you have
teams that you lose to a division rival and now
if you're battling for a wild card. I mean, the

(13:36):
Vikings could win the division, but realistically, you're talking about
two playoff teams that you didn't beat in your ow.

Speaker 2 (13:41):
And two, Dan, I just I feel like, oh and too.

Speaker 1 (13:43):
And I'm not trying to make a big deal about it,
because again it's it's so early, but oh and two.
The feeling of having to win a couple in a
row just to get back to five hundred just feel
the more and more you get be under five hundred,
it's daunting to get back there.

Speaker 4 (13:57):
Yeah, and I'll say this as a Seahawks fan, we're
steering to right right in the eyes because a road
trip to Pittsburgh. What team is hotter more people like
right now, at least offensively than Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers.
And you're looking at that game and there is a
scenario where I maybe did a schedule thing and thought, Okay,
they could get past the Niners. Maybe momentum, maybe Rogers

(14:18):
is old and two weeks in Seahawks could be owing to,
so I know exactly what you're talking about. If not,
it's not over. It's a long, long season. But nobody
wants to start owing to, just like nobody wants to
start owing to in fantasy football, like you want to
get that win.

Speaker 3 (14:31):
It's the same thing in the NFL.

Speaker 2 (14:33):
All right, let's say hi to Trey in Minnesota. What's up, Tray?

Speaker 5 (14:36):
Hey, how y'all doing?

Speaker 1 (14:37):
Man?

Speaker 6 (14:37):
I appreciate you taking the call.

Speaker 2 (14:39):
Oh, thank you?

Speaker 3 (14:39):
What's up?

Speaker 7 (14:40):
Not too much?

Speaker 8 (14:41):
Man?

Speaker 6 (14:41):
I wanted to speak on the Vikings game. You know,
I'm out here in Minnesota. I live out here in Minnesota,
So I just wanted to speak on the game. I
wasn't able to catch it live because I think you
gotta have eBay or MySpace TV or something like that. Right, yeah,
but I'm watching. I'm watching the YouTube highlights. And when
he threw the interception and I've seen the deer in
the head, I cut the TV off, but I said,

(15:02):
you know what, let me cut it back on and
see if we got a dog. Because he was looking
scared in Chicago at home, everybody knows him. He was
looking scared. But he turned up and he got the win.
When he had that touchdown run, I was really excited.
But can I tell you all the best thing about
being a Vikings fan. Yeah, best thing is when they
win the Super Bowl. It's gonna be my first time
seeing it. I'm thirty two, my dad's first time seeing it,

(15:23):
my grandpa, my great grandpa. Yeah, my son in law,
my grandson, all of us.

Speaker 2 (15:29):
That's awesome.

Speaker 3 (15:30):
Enjoy that together.

Speaker 2 (15:31):
Hey, how old are you again? Thirty two?

Speaker 1 (15:33):
He said, thirty two? Well, JJ McCarthy twenty two years old.
So that deer in the headlights Monday night football against
the Bears understandable man. So even more impressive that he
was able to keep his composure and come through like that.
Can I tell you something that you might think this
is ridiculous because I read the body language and I
love sort of assessing these young players. When he said

(15:54):
thank you Lisa to Lisa Salters, I don't know little
things like that, personal touches like I just I feel
like the guys that just got to carry themselves. I
feel like everything about the kid I noticed it, Dude,
to be honest, like, I don't know, that's just a
polite I don't know.

Speaker 3 (16:10):
You know what, I like he wears that EyeBlack the
way he does because he says he feels like a
warrior once he steps onto the field. Dude is just
a big time competitor.

Speaker 1 (16:19):
That energy is contagious too, and it was noticeable after
the game. So hey, Vikings, you got your guy. Like
Rich said by the jersey, he's gonna be there for
years to come. The only thing, uh, well, I guess
we knew this but we sort of thought about before
the show started, is he's not considered a rookie this year.

(16:40):
Because I was thinking he was, but he's not. I
get it because in baseball. In baseball, you could be
a rookie your second year, so if you don't get
as many a bats or pitching appearances. But in football,
even if you don't take a snap, you're not considered
a rookie. But at least, you know, he has maybe
that composure because he was there last year, but he
feels a little more comfortable.

Speaker 2 (16:59):
I think that's kind of cool.

Speaker 1 (17:00):
But I think it's bs not the calmer rookie. And
I get it because he was, you know, he just
said last year because of an injury. But he's for
all intents and purposes, he's a rookie. I don't care
you logistics all day. But it's like like you said
in baseball, if the guy gets called up September call ups.

Speaker 2 (17:16):
He's a rookie the next year.

Speaker 1 (17:17):
If he doesn't get a lot of that bet so reality,
he's a rookie, all right, Tony in argue, what's up.

Speaker 9 (17:22):
Ton Well, I'm on the other end of this spectrum.
I'm longtime Bears fan.

Speaker 3 (17:27):
And that was.

Speaker 9 (17:28):
That was brutal last night. We were expecting so much
more out of that offense, out of that quarterback. The
more that kid runs and with success, the more he's
gonna just run. As soon as he feels it. Johnson's
got to get a hold of him and fix that
or elsewhere make a change. It's just that was that
was all. That was a great preseason, especially the second

(17:50):
game against the Bills, where everything was on time, on
target throughout, you know, both offense, whether it was playing
quarterback or Williams, and I don't know where that I think.

Speaker 1 (18:01):
Let's in all honesty, let's give Ben Jonson and Caleb
Williams a couple games to really click together as head coach,
quarterback you know how important that combo is.

Speaker 2 (18:08):
But you saw Kevin O'Connell in the locker room afterwards.

Speaker 1 (18:11):
With the Vikings saying, hey, there's a reason why there's
a ce on that kid's chest. He's twenty two and
he's one of the team captains because JJ McCarthy knows
how to get his team fired up. Seems to be
clear a natural leader, and even though again his first
time out there, starting this way, not a rookie. In baseball,
it's you can't exceed one hundred and thirty at bats

(18:32):
for a hitter, fifty innings for a pitcher.

Speaker 4 (18:35):
Imagine in those two drives to start the game, if
you were to both teams, you were to say to yourself,
we're going to leave this and we're going to be
so much higher on JJ McCarthy than Caleb Williams. I mean,
McCarthy took us sack and needed a somersault. You know,
like at one point you're just like, wow, this kid
is completely overwhelmed. Yeah, right, and Caleb goes out there
ten for ten. You like, I know this, this ball

(18:56):
isn't even hitting the ground right now.

Speaker 2 (18:58):
Yeah, you would think you were thinking, like, oh, last
year's behind him.

Speaker 1 (19:01):
Yes, this is the USC guy we know that we
thought was the top of a generational guy.

Speaker 4 (19:05):
In a span of two hours, just completely shifted. That's
why I feel where that Bears fan is coming from.
It's why I said the Bears, because it's not only
the hope. You just saw it on the other sideline.
You saw the other quarterback adjust to the game and
then be able to thrive. That's got to be frustrating.
And it seems like your head coach, who is a genius,

(19:28):
got out foxed by the other head coach when it
came due time management in the game clock. So that's
got to be frustrating.

Speaker 1 (19:34):
Again, what brought us here was the emotional roller coaster
that we all experienced, I mean throughout the season, but
throughout last night aka Charlie Sheen, by the way, is
what the documentary is called to.

Speaker 2 (19:47):
Was not called winning.

Speaker 1 (19:50):
Aka Charlie Sheen's that's tomorrow. So again, what do you
do today? We're so caught up in the NFL? What
do we do? Are you watching any of that Canelo
Crawford build up to the fight or none? An I haven't,
so maybe I will again. Got a Canello hat on,
I got the Canelo Champ pad on right now, little
boxing shirt from everlast, protect yourself at all times, protect

(20:12):
yourself before you wreck yourself. And again something to look
forward to aside from football this weekend Canelo Crawford at
Allegiant Stadium in Vegas. So we'll be talking about that
throughout the week or maybe on over promised our bonus pot.
But JJ McCarthy is the story of the day today.
Thirteen for twenty one hundred and forty three yards, two tuddies,
that one crucial interception, but it was the tail of

(20:35):
two halves, like I said, an emotional roller coaster. We
established that with the reaction from everybody, but even myself.
It was ten to six at halftime, I was like boring,
this old man was kind of snoring. And then the
second half, Yeah kicked in. You're like, all right, cool man,
twenty seven to twenty four. Nice comeback, Nice fourth quarter

(20:56):
win for JJ McCarthy and the Vikings. I was doing
the Techno Vice dance. It's a good dance.

Speaker 3 (21:01):
You guys.

Speaker 1 (21:01):
Ever see techno Viking look them up. You'll thank me late.
If you don't have no Viking, oh god, look them
up on YouTube.

Speaker 2 (21:08):
Is classic.

Speaker 1 (21:09):
I'm reading our into On the YouTube live video stream,
Familia Carrera says he says five games because then three
and two is a decent start two and three deg
rebound from I was gonna think, like by if you're
a team that's hoping for maybe you know, a five
hundred plus season makes some strides. If you're like a

(21:29):
team like the Bears, I think after six you want
to be three and three because two and four just
three and three and two and four feels so different,
and it's only one game different.

Speaker 4 (21:39):
I would also add the extra game in the regular season,
and the extra playoff spot doesn't put you behind the
eight ball as much as oh and two used to
in a sixteen game schedule when there were only five
teams making the playoffs. And now I have seven teams
from each conference and you have that extra game.

Speaker 1 (21:54):
If you start out on two and then somehow get
to three and three after six, if you get hot
win bowling a row, I think three and three after
six games you are totally fine.

Speaker 4 (22:03):
And there are some teams that start off with two
games on the road, yeah, so you can't necessarily mark
those as automatic wins for going on the road. You
would still have your full home slate aheady and so forth.

Speaker 1 (22:13):
Hey, Rich, speaking of football, that's why that forty nine
Ers win at Seattle, not to rub it in, Dan,
That's why that was sort of a big one for
my Niners, because that you know, on the on the
road in Seattle, you could say on the bigger picture
that that might be an l So when you come
away with a W and you played, eh.

Speaker 2 (22:29):
It's a big one.

Speaker 3 (22:29):
Why are we still talking about this, by the way,
why are we Why are we dwelling on this game? Well?

Speaker 1 (22:33):
Bigger in retrospect now that half your team has hurt
too though, now going to have that Rich worst I
wrote this down.

Speaker 3 (22:40):
It's a bit of a tongue twister. Uh oh, worst
feeling Week one winners? Was it your Niners or was
it the Bengals worst feeling week?

Speaker 2 (22:48):
I would say Niners just based on the aftermath of
everybody being hurt.

Speaker 3 (22:51):
Purdy is banged up, Kittles out. You still don't know, Vayuk.
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (22:56):
Well, Jake Moody's out, Yeah he's out. But both lucky
to pull one out. You know, I did you feel
good about that win? I didn't, But you know what,
I feel good about I feel good about that while
the Niners are banged up, they're blessed to be having
the Saints in week two and watch the Saints O
beat the Niners, and I'll look like an ass next Monday.
But to me, it's like, if you're banged up and

(23:17):
your team looks a little suspect, I can ask right now,
it's all that's fun. I would say that getting the
Saints week two is a very nice gift for the
forty nine ers. Yeah, you know, you play the Saints.
You hope to just slip by that one. And you know, again, Storm,
we talked about yesterday about setting the tone. You just
want to set the tone. You don't want to throw
a gutter ball in the first frame, and you don't
want to lose the first week of the NFL. But hey,

(23:41):
McCarthy prevented that from happening. We got one more phone
call about the emotional roller coaster of last night's game,
and JJ McCarthy.

Speaker 2 (23:47):
Who do we got. Let's go to Greg greg and Ile.
Hey Greg, you're on the show.

Speaker 7 (23:53):
What's up?

Speaker 8 (23:53):
Guys?

Speaker 5 (23:54):
Love the show?

Speaker 2 (23:54):
Thank you man?

Speaker 5 (23:55):
Yeah, hey, so huge fan. You know I got to
give Matt props to JJ McCarthy though, by honestly, after
that takes six, I'm like this, I am over. But
after what Aikman said when he came to the sideline,
what Akean was talking about when he was apologizing whatever
his offensive line, I mean, how he was talking about,

(24:19):
you know, that's got to be pretty hard, especially with
Aikman being a former quarterback as a quote unquote rookie,
you know, it's got to be pretty hard to do,
and then him coming out and just throwing the heck
out of the ball the rest of the game.

Speaker 1 (24:31):
By the way, great point. Did we make that point earlier,
because we did in our pre show meeting, Like even
the announcers last night were going through the whole roller
coaster of emotions with everybody else.

Speaker 2 (24:41):
No, oh, he's not ready, he's overwhelmed. To wow, young star.
That was really noticing.

Speaker 1 (24:47):
And I don't know if Colin pointed it out earlier
on the Herd, but has he appointed JJ McCarthy quarterback
face yet, because he's like, he looks like you're quintessential,
like happy, golicky fret boy.

Speaker 2 (24:57):
He does.

Speaker 1 (24:58):
He's a total he's got a quarterback college face. He
definitely his quarterback face. I could see him being popular
in Minnesota for years to come. Hey, based on football.
There was a story a week ago that we never
had time for, and I do want to bring up,
Danny G. I know you have the details about those
British fans, but the gist of it was this, there's

(25:20):
a bunch of old.

Speaker 2 (25:21):
School British blokes. Yeah. I'm not into British people, not
a fan.

Speaker 1 (25:25):
I just want even think about this. What do you mean,
what does that mean a lot of British people listening.

Speaker 3 (25:29):
Yeah, we tied it to football cove. They just get
together to have a pint.

Speaker 2 (25:34):
No, they got bat teeth and they care about royal
family stuff. I'm not a Fanily it says, yeah, so
these players like, yeah, me too, Fish and Chips.

Speaker 3 (25:42):
I don't know. No, Well, look, a group of British
blokes have kept the same tradition going every Thursday since
nineteen sixty eight. They meet every Thursday at the same
place for a pint for.

Speaker 1 (25:52):
Fifty six years. Now, Hold on, this is let's put
in perspective. Cavino and Rich with Danny G on Fox
Sports Radio. We've been together for what like five years
almost total, but three years.

Speaker 2 (26:03):
We're going on three years full time right in the
next month or two right.

Speaker 3 (26:09):
Three years at the end of this.

Speaker 1 (26:11):
You don't even know our anniversary is it's September twenty six, right, correct,
so it'll be three years full time. But we were
doing weekends for two years, two plus or one and
a half years. Anyway, long story short, as we got
into this tradition of the first game of the year,
we'd go out to Buffalo Wild Wings right to kick
off the NFL season.

Speaker 2 (26:32):
We couldn't even make it fin a third year.

Speaker 1 (26:33):
We couldn't even do it right because Rich had to
coach a game, I had to fix my tire, got
to pick my kid up.

Speaker 9 (26:40):
You know.

Speaker 3 (26:40):
Danny, She's like, what about our tradition. It's like a yeah,
we're gonna have to take a rain chet.

Speaker 2 (26:46):
We'll full figure it out. We'll get together on another
Monday night.

Speaker 4 (26:49):
So my point was was that last year, Yeah, and
then left because his daughter didn't have keys to get
into the place.

Speaker 2 (26:56):
Yeah, the anniversary that just passed. I maybe this anniversary
just thinks.

Speaker 1 (27:01):
So the point is, in three years, we couldn't keep
that tradition of let's go and celebrate the start of
the season with some wild wings at a pint. These
guys have been getting together for fifty six years, all right,
So that got me thinking about traditions. But because it's
football season, what are the best football traditions that you

(27:23):
have or you want to establish for your family and friends.
I have one that's ridiculous, but you know what, I'm
gonna let you know what it is next. And there's
one that I really admire that is coming to And
there is a tradition that's unfortunately coming to an end
in the NFL. We'll get to that, but let's go
to Dan buy for an update. dB start thinking about it.

(27:43):
What's going on with friend.

Speaker 4 (27:44):
Diego's defensive tackle Jalen Carter will be available for their
Week two matchup against the Chiefs now He was suspended
one game for spinning on Dak Prescott and the opening
game of the season, but the NFL says because the
spinning action occurred so early in the game, just after
the opening kickoff, that they are considering that his one
game ban.

Speaker 2 (28:04):
I mean it sounds appropriate, to be honest.

Speaker 4 (28:06):
Forty nine is placed out in George Kittle on injured
reserve and release kicker Jake Moody Today ownership on the Broncos,
with the backing of local and state government officials, released
a video showing their hopes of building a privately funded,
retractable roof stadium that would be the new home for
the team. Broncos have been playing at in power Field
at Mile High since two thousand and one, but possibly
a new stadium coming for the Broncos. Red Sox are

(28:29):
placing Dustin May on the injured list and calling up
prospect Lefty Connolly early. He'll start tonight against the A's.
Cubs place outfielder Kyle Tucker on the ale with a
calf strain, and the Bulls signed restricted freegic are Josh Giddy.
He's back in Chicago on a four year deal worth
one hundred million dollars. Guys, back to you, thank you,
d B.

Speaker 1 (28:47):
A little early for a new stadium, though, Denver, it
feels like that I'd be you know what as time
flags and how the the joking meme goes, oh, thirty
years ago, you mean the seventies, and it's like, no,
thirty years ago is the nineties. If a sixties stadium
was redone in the nineties, if a stadium was redone
around the turn of the century in the twenty thirties.

Speaker 2 (29:06):
It's not crazy, right, Like, here's two things.

Speaker 4 (29:09):
Number one, it's twenty five years now, so by the
time it built, it'll be thirty years. It probably needs renovations.
This is all entirely privately funded right now, so there's
no public money. So they want to build the walt
You know, the Waltons want to build their stadium, Go
right ahead.

Speaker 3 (29:25):
They've got the money to do it.

Speaker 2 (29:27):
Build the wall?

Speaker 3 (29:28):
Is that what you, sad?

Speaker 2 (29:28):
I think o the Walmart?

Speaker 4 (29:29):
It's the airs to Walmart on the I I heard it,
Bronc wall the wall. If the Walton's on.

Speaker 3 (29:35):
A build to go ahead? No, no, I think I
heard build the wall. Thanks you, Dan Byer. I appreciate it.

Speaker 2 (29:39):
Man. It's time for our tire ract Play of the Day.
You ready for this?

Speaker 1 (29:47):
No surprise. The guy that won you over rich, but
he went over a lot of people. He won our
hearts yesterday. J. J. McCarthy willed his way into the
end zone in the fourth quarter.

Speaker 2 (29:57):
It is a run pass option. Dorthy takes off to
the right, stutter.

Speaker 7 (30:03):
Step sick the five touchdop.

Speaker 1 (30:08):
Peece JJ McCarthy runs for a Vikings touchdown. Those last
two yards he did a little uh, how do you
do a little that those last two yards?

Speaker 2 (30:19):
Thutter step was what they went with that.

Speaker 1 (30:22):
He did the stutter step, but the yard line I
think the last two yards were a little sid.

Speaker 2 (30:28):
You're talking, Oh you mean when he went that? Yeah,
the last two yards.

Speaker 1 (30:32):
That's courtesy of KFA and Vikings Ready on network and
that's our tirect play of the day. So real quick,
right quick, before we get into all the fun of
Last One Standing Tuesday edition and more football and your mets,
there's lots to talk about. There's a group of friends

(30:53):
that meet for a pint every Thursday, and they've done
this for fifty six years. They were young men, okay
when they started this. Now they're old British blokes every Thursday.

Speaker 2 (31:06):
Let's see.

Speaker 1 (31:07):
Hold on, there's not like just three buddies, one, two, three,
four or five, just six of these guys. So to
even live this long, good for them. They've been doing
this since nineteen sixty eight. So we started tying it
into like our football traditions because we would get together
Buffalo Wild Wings to start the season. But that didn't
even last for three years. Because life gets in the way.
Something we've been doing for five years. Yeah, we get

(31:28):
together with a group of buds and we take a
different football stadium.

Speaker 2 (31:31):
Yeah, and we make it like we make it a
guy's weekend.

Speaker 1 (31:34):
And the first year, the joke was we all went
in a hot tub they had at the Airbnb, and
Cavino just sat besides it. So the joke was Steve
and the hot Tub Boys, and it became like a
you know, an eye rolling joke. I didn't want to
get in a hot tub, no offense with a bunch
of like dudes, Danny.

Speaker 2 (31:51):
It was a beautiful airbnb. Everyone's having a cocktawn.

Speaker 3 (31:54):
I've heard this.

Speaker 1 (31:55):
And Cavino sat outside the hot tub, everyone else was
in it. I sound like my kind of you just
want to show anyone your nipples.

Speaker 3 (32:02):
What's going on?

Speaker 1 (32:02):
I got puffy nipples. That's reason number one. Reason number two.
It just felt like another dude soup. Yeah, a bunch of.

Speaker 3 (32:08):
Guys your twentieth anniversary in Vegas. There were dudes joking
that they wanted on the waiting list to be part
of the hot.

Speaker 2 (32:16):
Part of the Hot Tub Boys.

Speaker 1 (32:17):
I know Rich is right, though, but that takes five
years now that takes a legitimate commitment to say, you
know what, we're a good group of buds, let's try
to do this every year. So five years we've been
visiting away stadiums. This year enjoying some games. This year,
we're going to Arizona for the forty nine ers Cardinals
in mid November. So any other NFL traditions that you
live by or want to start moving forward? You know,

(32:40):
I thought it was a sad thought, but the idea
of a group of buds going to every single Super
Bowl cannot have many years left because we're we're approaching
Super Bowl sixty, right, So if you're only get a
guys that we're twenty thirty years old that all went
together every year, those guys are like ninety now, so
much like the blokes that have their pint, you're you're
not going to see many I've been to every Super

(33:02):
Bowl people for much longer. Unfortunately, right, we got more
Kavino and Rich and your traditions. Next, what are the
traditions you look forward to or maybe you're trying to
start with your family and I don't want to be
the Debbie downer, but Danny I pointed out that the
idea of like a group of buds going to the
Super Bowl every year.

Speaker 3 (33:21):
Yeah, you started talking death.

Speaker 1 (33:23):
Well, the reality is like you know, if you if
a group of buddies back in nineteen sixty seven, sixty eight,
those guys are old now and it's sort of like
the sad reality of all of our grandparents were proud
World War Two veterans.

Speaker 2 (33:36):
How many World War Two veterans are still a lot?

Speaker 3 (33:38):
I know.

Speaker 1 (33:38):
It's even more said about that story. Rich is like
that group of like, let's say it was five dudes,
they might be two. No, now it might be it
could be one.

Speaker 2 (33:47):
Should anyone want to go with me?

Speaker 4 (33:49):
This is this, I guarantee was in the back of
the brain of Rich Davis, and it just didn't come
to your forefront on why you thought about that? Because
the NFL did fit fifteen some years ago a special
and to every Super Bowl club and there were four
guys I think remember that we're in the group. What

(34:10):
happened was, unfortunately a couple of them have passed away.
According to Wikipedia, they're named that never missed a Super
Bowl club. There was another person who was added that
they didn't know that also went to every Super Bowl
from that from that ad campaign.

Speaker 1 (34:24):
Right.

Speaker 2 (34:25):
Oh, so they added that guy to the crew.

Speaker 4 (34:26):
So there was one guy, Yeah, that was added, But
then two of them died, so there are only three
people remaining. According to Wikipedia, that had all of these
guys going to every Super Bowl.

Speaker 3 (34:37):
That's wild, didn't They also have a special where there
were a couple of photographers who had covered every Super Bowl. Yes,
photo journalists and in some reporters as well. Rich has
another football tradition that he started. But it all depends
on your team winning.

Speaker 2 (34:52):
It does.

Speaker 1 (34:53):
But my wife and I we moved out to LA
we had kids out here, and if one of our
teams wins a playoff game, we jump at our pool
with our clothes on and record it and my kids
get a kick out of it.

Speaker 2 (35:05):
Rich really leans into it though for the kids, which
is great, like, all right, kids, are you ready?

Speaker 3 (35:10):
Dude?

Speaker 1 (35:11):
You know it's like you don't always remember that for sure,
you have to jump in the pool with your clothes
on if your team wins, and Danny g if you're
over my house and the Raiders win, guess.

Speaker 3 (35:19):
What clo The traditions with the kids and football is
a lot of fun. Oh, you started with your son,
I love that. Yeah. CoA was born in August, so
as a little newborn, I took a picture of him
in Little Raider pjs. Then fast forward to last August
and he had his first jersey on. And then this
past weekend I took a picture of him in his

(35:41):
Max Crosby.

Speaker 1 (35:42):
Jersey and he said, forget about first day of school picks? Yep,
would you say first snap of the season.

Speaker 3 (35:46):
That's good, first Sunday opener snap, I.

Speaker 2 (35:49):
Said, Danny.

Speaker 1 (35:50):
A funny thing where it was a mom who took
a picture of her holding her son on the first
day school. But then once it got to like tenth
or eleventh grade, he started holding his mom. Danny's like,
that's when it gets weird. Started getting creepy in the
sixth grade.

Speaker 3 (36:04):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (36:04):
Now again, it could be like your wife, he's five
layered dip. It could be something that you cook up
on the green egg. But what's your NFL tradition that
you want to share with us or maybe one you
just want to start. That's our take on it.

Speaker 3 (36:18):
Who do we got?

Speaker 2 (36:19):
Let's say, how to Matt and so cal, what's up
Matt Hey?

Speaker 10 (36:21):
Matt Eo called Veto and Rich natural content and backbit
since here bs and pretty much eve parenting one on
one From what it sounds like, Yes.

Speaker 1 (36:32):
It is creating core memories for your kids, you know,
and they look forward to it. And football brings people together.

Speaker 7 (36:38):
Oh no doubt.

Speaker 10 (36:39):
And also a great job you guys is like this
last month because you know, while shows run from.

Speaker 7 (36:45):
The lack of content, you guys step up and step
in and create.

Speaker 10 (36:47):
Content on other shows and just stepping in left and right.

Speaker 2 (36:50):
Hey, Max, can you say thanks for noticing?

Speaker 8 (36:52):
Thank?

Speaker 2 (36:53):
I appreciate it.

Speaker 10 (36:56):
Real quick. The tradition, I mean, it's not pro football,
but the one thing that I I always appreciate it
is college football game day when they have their morning frenzy.
When I was younger, I noticed every week a Washington
State flag. And it could be the biggest SEC game
of the week, it could be Auburn and Alabama, but
you look around, you look in the background, there's this

(37:18):
Washington state flag waving in the background. So I don't
know if you guys are up on that. I think
they did a story on him, but I always thought that.

Speaker 8 (37:23):
Was pretty cool.

Speaker 2 (37:24):
Yeah, now it's listen.

Speaker 1 (37:25):
I'm a big fan of traditions and sports and life
with your kids and family. And I think by creating traditions.
My wife and I constantly have that sappy conversation of like,
let's make this a tradition. You want to make those
memories with your kids. And I think sports is such
an avenue where core memories are made. Yeah, Rich has
tons of core memories. It wasn't a Sunday if Rich

(37:46):
didn't hear his dad screaming about the money he lost
on his bets. Yeah, I just you know, you know,
I feel right, my dad told me about teaser belts.
You know, in the end, the Giants flew it again, Richie,
I can't believe it. So yeah, that's you know, your
tradition might be gambling with your dad, right. I wish
the NFL would embrace it more. I think we could
probably name two or three college football ones that we

(38:07):
all remember a little bit, like the game day stuff,
and I think that's at times lacking in the NFL.
Where how about if the NFL every season was like,
guess what Bears Vikings you're gonna meet in the last
Sunday in September. Yeah, you know, like one of those
sort of things, like you always know it's going to
be a Bears Vikings game in the end of September
or something like that. They try to push this stuff

(38:28):
on us, like make us care about rivalries when we
kind of already care about the rivalries or the rivalries
take care of themselves. I wish the NFL would do
more of that that we have, like in college football.
You know, speaking of Thanksgiving, you brought up Thanksgiving the
turn duck in with with John Madden back in the day,
and they thought they continue, you know, some of those traditions.

Speaker 2 (38:49):
I think that's nice.

Speaker 1 (38:50):
Yeah, there's so many young players that that fantasized and
dreamt about that turkey one day, I'm going to eat
that turkey leg.

Speaker 2 (38:56):
Well, you always tell me that the best part is
the turkey ass, Right, Turkey ass is my favorite part?
Is the best part.

Speaker 1 (39:03):
Who else do we got Travis? Yes, I had a
Travis in La Okay, what up buddy?

Speaker 10 (39:08):
Hey Steve, who do you think is more ass, Turkey
ass or arch Manning?

Speaker 2 (39:12):
Arch Manning might be asked, Yeah, what's up, buddy? You
there Travis? He just wanted to truck that lone.

Speaker 3 (39:21):
I guess.

Speaker 1 (39:23):
Actually he had a British people comment, Yeah, Travis back
Travis calls back eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox,
Rich had a real problem with old British guys.

Speaker 3 (39:33):
I think Travis dropped that punchline and then crashed into
the vehicle in front of him.

Speaker 2 (39:36):
Yeah, certainly, I think. I see, here's a little backstory.

Speaker 1 (39:43):
When you have to do two hours of awesome, it's
hard to really get to know the real Steve Cavino.
But that's why I say check out the Patreon because
we have more time to chat, or when we fill
in for Dan Patrick, we have more time.

Speaker 3 (39:56):
Right.

Speaker 1 (39:56):
Yeah, but yeah, I married a British woman and yeah yeah,
and her accent.

Speaker 2 (40:03):
Still gives me and Rich nightmares.

Speaker 1 (40:06):
So I think Rich still has like that that PTSD
that I went through as his buddy, and holds it
against all.

Speaker 2 (40:12):
Brits as that.

Speaker 1 (40:14):
And I don't understand Americans caring about the royal family.
It's it boggles my mind how we care.

Speaker 3 (40:19):
I love them great.

Speaker 4 (40:21):
I can't really remember when we did our three most
Interesting People and I said, the Prince will wait, it's.

Speaker 2 (40:28):
Your fascination with it, just something you're interested.

Speaker 3 (40:31):
Yeah, I think I just think it's so so different, and.

Speaker 1 (40:34):
I can see that, But to me, I'm like, when
people talk about the Camilla and I don't know who
these people are.

Speaker 2 (40:40):
To me, it's like, who's that? Is that a person?
I mean, I don't know who you're talking. That's the
wife of the.

Speaker 1 (40:49):
King, Harry Charles. To me, it's such bs and nonsense.
I can't understand how Americans care. Intelligent man, right now,
royal people Camilla are royal cup Well is Travis Kelsey
tellers Swift?

Speaker 2 (41:01):
I said it was George Brett and his wife.

Speaker 1 (41:04):
I thought our royal couple was Savador Peresident and his girlfriend.

Speaker 2 (41:08):
Our royal couple is Brett saber Higgin and his family.

Speaker 1 (41:11):
Oh well, you know, we go back to your phone
calls to wrap it up at Travis, I want to
hear what you had to say about that, but that's
my story.

Speaker 2 (41:18):
I go to Iver, South Dakota.

Speaker 1 (41:21):
You're on the Cavino and Rich show, Fox Sports Radio,
just talking about NFL traditions that you're trying to keep,
and it's tough. You know why it's tough, Iver, because
everyone has family, work responsibilities. I went to spring training
with my Mets buddies three years in a row and
then eventually was like, yeah, I think we're done.

Speaker 2 (41:36):
It's tough. Tough to the British guy story though, is
really impressive. They've done that. They must have the worst
wives or the most I don't know how you look
at it or supportive.

Speaker 3 (41:45):
On finding out that Rich is a tradition killer.

Speaker 1 (41:47):
Yeah, richal believe in it. Huh because they got together
every Thursday for fifty six years. Tradition You mean the
same stupid thing over and Ova.

Speaker 2 (41:55):
No, let's go to ivor Hey Bud.

Speaker 7 (41:58):
Hey fellaws, thanks for taking the call. I am third
generation of heartbreak hope. Vikings an insane amount of hope.
That's our tradition. That's that's what we do. We get
to the end of the game and we say, ah,
well whatever we're experts at at just justifying why we lost.

Speaker 1 (42:22):
Yeah, the the Vikings have a tradition of letting their
fans Welliver, let me give you a fun giving you like,
giving you hope, but then letting you down.

Speaker 2 (42:30):
Fiver.

Speaker 1 (42:30):
Let me let me let me give you a piece
of information to take away. Because our show is about
I always say this, our show could ben on Rich.
I either want you to get a good laugh or
learn something. If you're not laughing or learning, then we're
not doing our job.

Speaker 2 (42:42):
So I'm going to teach you something.

Speaker 1 (42:44):
There was a calculator on ESPN about a month ago,
and if you put your teams in, it gave you
the It gave you how miserable you could be as
a fan.

Speaker 2 (42:54):
What was like the pain meter or something like that.
It was something ridiculous like depression fan.

Speaker 1 (43:00):
Misery meter with the misery meter. And if you put
in the vik index, the misery index. If you put
in the Vikings, Tea, Wolves, Twins, and uh well the
Wild at the time. Do they even have a what's
there hockey team?

Speaker 2 (43:13):
The Wild?

Speaker 1 (43:14):
Yes, what's there women's basketball team? The Lynx, the Lynx.
It's called the sports misery Index.

Speaker 3 (43:21):
You're right, the.

Speaker 1 (43:21):
Vikings because of their failures over the years. The Minnesota
fan base has a ninety something on this meter, like
the higher the worst. So you really can't get much
worse than being a Minnesota sports fan. So if you
have Minnesota sports fans that are a good spirited people,
God bless them.

Speaker 4 (43:40):
I don't know if you guys are the same thing.
But we talk about the generation of baseball and we
grow up in the Twins winning in eighty seven and
ninety one, especially in Cavino and myz Range. That's prime
youth baseball. So you think that the Twins were this
unstoppable force so much that you guys think Kirby Pucket's
more popular than prints in Minnesota.

Speaker 2 (44:00):
He said that the other day.

Speaker 1 (44:01):
But when Ken Hrpex more popular, Gary Guyetti's bullet it
his top five.

Speaker 2 (44:05):
But I hate to hold that against the Twin Cities.

Speaker 4 (44:08):
But you're right because I remember those championships and I'll
still say, what do you mean Twins won it.

Speaker 3 (44:12):
Twice in the late eighties early nineties. What are you
guys crying about ninety one? Come?

Speaker 2 (44:16):
Oh, yeah, that's a long time, Yeah, a long long time.
It's people agree with you anymore?

Speaker 3 (44:20):
Man.

Speaker 2 (44:20):
Yeah, to me that that still feels like they got some.

Speaker 3 (44:22):
Sort of winning.

Speaker 1 (44:23):
Yes, right, and you know what, they were Yankees. They
get close. But I feel that way about my forty
nine ers. When there's like a sentiment like that, people think, oh,
what do you like the forty nine ers? What are
you a front runner? And I'm like front running what
they won in ninety four ninety five. I was fifteen
years old when the forty nine ers last one. I
think I've paid my dues for liking Montana when I
was a kid. But uh, hey, let's go to one

(44:46):
more phone call. Danny, want to go to Texas? Which,
by the way, do you see one of the Powerball
winners from Frederick Berg's to Texas? Cool little wine country?
Billions of dollars? What's up Texas, Andrew?

Speaker 5 (45:01):
Yeah, Hey, my tradition is watching the Cowboys.

Speaker 10 (45:05):
Lose on Thanksgiving almost every year.

Speaker 2 (45:08):
It's a good one.

Speaker 1 (45:10):
Nice, thank you man, appreciate you. I mean that is
part of the tradition, though, like where am I going
to watch the game on Thanksgiving?

Speaker 3 (45:17):
You know?

Speaker 2 (45:18):
That's that's part of it. I have a question, what
if someone this is a this is a real question.

Speaker 1 (45:22):
I'm actually going back home, I think, to Jersey for
the first Thanksgiving in like ten years.

Speaker 2 (45:28):
Probably can't wait. I'll be watching the Cowboys losing Jersey.
What if the tradition stinks and no one has the
heart to tell the person, do you tell them.

Speaker 1 (45:37):
That's a good one, meaning like yeah, what if you
take the initiative to start the new tradition because the
old one. What if like let's say, let's say Danny,
let's say your beautiful wife, Brenda was like, I make
a special banana bread for Raiders games.

Speaker 2 (45:50):
And you're like your banana bread stick, like not really like.

Speaker 1 (45:54):
If someone's if if someone's wife or girlfriend brings a
dip to every Super Bowl and everyone agrees like it
sort of stinks.

Speaker 2 (46:01):
Do you just let her bring it.

Speaker 3 (46:02):
Because it's tradition. There's a market with her potato salad. Again, Yeah,
did your team win or lose with it? Let it stay?
If your team won, we got eggs salad. Oh she
brought her egg salad. Thanks, Aunt Rosie, appreciate it.

Speaker 2 (46:18):
Can I tell you? I know she's not listening, so
I won't feel bad saying that. That's so funny my
mother in law.

Speaker 1 (46:24):
Yeah, there's like the sentiment that, oh, Cindy's potato salad,
oh potato salad, and I and you know get it
in my mind. You know what the worst part is,
rich you have to pretend to eat it because if
let's say the wives are some people bring dips and salads. Whatever,
If no one eats that dip or salad, some wife
is going home sad that day. So you have to

(46:46):
sort of make a dent and it has raisins and
it doesn't it you gotta I don't know it doesn't.
But you have to work yourway spot. We've talked about this.
You have to work your way around a holiday dessert
table and you have to tell everybody how great their
dip was. Even if you throw it out, you have
to take a slice of every cake, just so know
why life girlfriend or guy feels it feels all hurt,
Like no one liked my apple par.

Speaker 2 (47:06):
But why does your mother in law's potato salad. It's
like mustard based.

Speaker 1 (47:10):
I'm amazing, I'm a mayo based potato salad. Potato salad
it is. And it's like she got to break this tradition,
Cindy's potato salad. So when she comes over, let's say
it's a holiday and she comes over and makes it
for a cookout or barbecue. Every so often I'll take
a scoop and throw it away so it looks like it's.

Speaker 2 (47:30):
Yeah, I got I got it ready.

Speaker 3 (47:32):
That's hard.

Speaker 1 (47:33):
I just want you just got to throw it out
there like findy. I just want you to know I'm
replating your tradition with riches, fruit salad, roaches fruit salad,
and just be like it's a new tradition.

Speaker 2 (47:44):
It's a new tradition. You just gotta salad.

Speaker 1 (47:46):
Yeah, you gotta just cut it in the nip, it
in the butt. Man, Well start a tradition, or hey,
piggyback on ours. Man, go visit an away stadium with
your buddies, even if you haven't talked to him a minute,
reach out and be like, man, maybe we should just
do it once a year. It's a nice way to
to reconnect and get away from the hassles and the
hofs of your regular life and routine. And I look

(48:09):
forward to meeting up with our buddies in November, and
I look forward to getting wings.

Speaker 3 (48:13):
Say our new tradition. The third week of NFL football,
we go to a wild next week gardiner perfect.

Speaker 1 (48:21):
And by the way, if you know my mother in law,
don't you f and tell her I said that her.
All right, it's time to play everyone's favorite game, Last
one Standing.

Speaker 8 (48:31):
You have five seconds to battle for your sports trivia
lot man, I got it. Put your electronic devices down
and pick your sports knowledge.

Speaker 2 (48:47):
Last one Standing, Last one Standing?

Speaker 1 (48:51):
Did you see spots snazzy graphics on the YouTube plage?

Speaker 2 (48:54):
Again, it's not just a listening experience. Anymore. This is
like a TV show. Now, hey, there you go.

Speaker 3 (48:59):
Hey, last One's all right? A Tuesday edition of Last
One Standing. I have four categories ready to go. If
needed a tie breaker, Each contestant gets five seconds to
stay alive in the round. If you run out of
time or you answer incorrectly, Io Sam will take you
out with a big, bad buzzer.

Speaker 2 (49:14):
Don't want to hear that I have nightmares?

Speaker 8 (49:16):
You want?

Speaker 2 (49:17):
Yeah, I will. I woke in the middle of my
sleep last night to that sound.

Speaker 3 (49:20):
We keep battling until you are the last one standing.
If you win two of the rounds, you are the
top dog. Here's the contestants. Nine time winner Steve Cavino, Right,
let's go, thirteen time winner Dicky Do Davis.

Speaker 2 (49:33):
What, Let's go?

Speaker 1 (49:34):
Here?

Speaker 3 (49:34):
We here, here, we are Leader in the Clubhouse. Thirty
time winner Dan Byer.

Speaker 2 (49:38):
I thought it was thirty one.

Speaker 3 (49:39):
But who's counting? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (49:40):
Right, I mean he's great, he does.

Speaker 3 (49:43):
And let's go to the studio line. See who's playing
for a CNR prize. Mike in Tulsa, Oklahoma. What up, Mikey?
How we're good?

Speaker 2 (49:52):
Buddy boy? Ready to play?

Speaker 5 (49:54):
Oh well, I'll give him my best.

Speaker 2 (49:56):
Shot you better.

Speaker 3 (49:57):
All right. Mike spot is the fact checker during this game,
so be patient with him. Please. When I say your name,
the clock is going to begin. Here's the first category
living in the red. You have five seconds to name
an NFL wide receiver who sits atop the all time
touchdown scored list. So leading wide receivers all time in
NFL touchdowns? All right, Covino, you're going to be a

(50:19):
first starting right now.

Speaker 2 (50:21):
Go Jerry Rice, get him out number one by far.

Speaker 3 (50:26):
Rich catch a beat running like grand v Moss, Randy
Moss number two with one going in order. Buyer Tara Owans,
Tara Owens number three. I was kidding, mikey A three
two one. Antonio Gates not a wide receiver.

Speaker 2 (50:51):
Sorry, go Covino, Key Sean, uh.

Speaker 3 (50:57):
No, what brother?

Speaker 2 (51:00):
Marvin Harrison, Marvin Harrison number five?

Speaker 3 (51:03):
Nice ball. Buyer Calvin Johnson. Kelvin Johnson not on the list.
Rich wins that round. Wow?

Speaker 2 (51:13):
Where's Michael Irvin on that list?

Speaker 3 (51:15):
Michael Irvin? Uh No, none of the list. H I
think there's a spot. So there'sh because I have to look.
Chris Carter number four. Chris Carter, Yeah, you got five?
He did it was catch touchdown? Garry Fitzgerald number six?
What about? Uh? Fits Larry Gerald? Fits Larry number seven? Couple,

(51:37):
it's Tim Brown on that list. Tim Brown is number eight.

Speaker 2 (51:40):
Tim Brown about Andre Reid? Is Andre Reid not on
our my list? Just uh thinking bad?

Speaker 4 (51:46):
This is where touchdown receptions like are funky because when
I said Calvin Johnson, I didn't think because there were
years where you wouldn't catch touchdowns yards seventeen yards four touchdowns. Yeah, yes,
Chris Carter is a good one. Yeah, Solly does his
catch touchdown?

Speaker 3 (52:02):
All right? Rich on the board. So far as we
go to the second category on the field, dogs and
in your mouth, dogs, you have five seconds to name
an NFL team whose stadium offers one of the fifteen
lowest prices for a regular hot dog. There's two ties.
We're gonna take the top of the lowest fifteen. All right,
and Mikey, you're gonna be at first in this category

(52:22):
starting right now.

Speaker 5 (52:24):
Go, Let's go with push stadium.

Speaker 2 (52:29):
I'll just give the give the team the team, Give
the team, NFL team, NFL.

Speaker 7 (52:32):
Team, Oh, NFL team, sorry, oh man, Let's go with
the Arizona Cardinals.

Speaker 3 (52:40):
Cardinals four ninety eight on the list Nice Fire Jaguars
Jaguars six ninety three, boom, rich I love how arbitra
it is.

Speaker 1 (52:52):
There's no skill involved in this category. But I do
know that Atlanta keeps it. Atlanta keeps it very long.
I bet they're number one Atlanta Fountains. Atlanta is number
one of the bottom dollar hot dog.

Speaker 3 (53:02):
There you go that so there is a skill, a
skill because I saw the same meme you saw probably
week ago.

Speaker 2 (53:10):
Cincinnati on there.

Speaker 3 (53:11):
Uh they are not. That's a good guest, Steve Yes,
I hate this kid all right. Back to the dogs.
Back to Mike and Tulsa.

Speaker 7 (53:25):
How about the Baltimore Ravens.

Speaker 3 (53:27):
The Ravens are on the list three forty nine for
it's on that their new menu under five buyer.

Speaker 4 (53:34):
Tell you what, guys, there's nothing like going to Detroit
and getting a nice cheap dog.

Speaker 3 (53:39):
What do you think?

Speaker 2 (53:40):
That's a good guess, but you are wrong.

Speaker 3 (53:44):
This is between rich and Mike rich Man.

Speaker 1 (53:46):
How could you not think about the cheap dogs you
would get if you were going to see the Cleveland
Brown and you would be correct?

Speaker 2 (53:52):
Richet dog Man, Mike.

Speaker 3 (53:56):
Back to Mikey, let's go with.

Speaker 2 (54:02):
How about the Felton, I said, pick another one.

Speaker 6 (54:07):
Oh all right, how about quickly?

Speaker 8 (54:16):
Come on?

Speaker 3 (54:17):
We said it. I'll take anything, just named the team.
Pick an NFL T pick a team. Yes, Broncos are
on the list. Five five, even four blocks to get
across the street. Now imagine this. You're up in the
snow and Buffalo and you're like, wow, what a cheap
hot dog? Incorrect?

Speaker 2 (54:37):
Rich?

Speaker 3 (54:42):
Allright, Mike, halfway to a CNR price.

Speaker 2 (54:46):
Rich, and you're a table on fire.

Speaker 4 (54:49):
But no cheap hot Here's the other funny thing about
Riches Cleveland. It's like you can make it argument and
be like they're the dog Pound. Of course they're going
to be expensive, like it's their nickname. Right, But no,
oh not the days.

Speaker 1 (55:01):
No, by the sure, by the way, I thought for
sure Rich would win that round because he is the
biggest wingie I know.

Speaker 2 (55:10):
Alright, wait to go, Mike, next category.

Speaker 3 (55:13):
All right, here we go, third category. Mike and Rich
on the board. As the kids say, six to seven,
six six, you have five seconds to name an MLB
team who has only sixty seven or less wins this season.
So AL has five teams. NL also has five bottom
teams with sixty seven wins or less. Covino, you're gonna

(55:34):
be at first starting right now, go the Rockies Rockies,
YEP with forty Rich the A's, A's have sixty six
Fire White Sox, White Sox fifty five on.

Speaker 7 (55:52):
A roll, Mike, Let's go with Baltimore, oriole Orioles.

Speaker 3 (55:57):
Have sixty six? All right? Job three?

Speaker 2 (56:05):
The Rangers, Rangers not on the list.

Speaker 3 (56:08):
Oh sorry, I thought they were Rich The Nationals, the
Nationals fifty nine. Buyer Pirates, the Pirates sixty four.

Speaker 8 (56:20):
Mike, how did anybody say the twin?

Speaker 3 (56:24):
They did not, But we just did sixty four of
this game. Rich three two the Marlins. But I think
I'm wrong, but you're right, sixty six, don't doubt yourself.
Buyer two left, yeah, Gos three. You're gonna say the Braves.

(56:47):
You would be correct, right, Mike.

Speaker 6 (56:52):
Oh goodness, I'm gonna say the Rocky.

Speaker 3 (56:56):
Already said, already said, said, okay, quickly another team, quickly,
I got one, So we go next round.

Speaker 2 (57:08):
He's out.

Speaker 3 (57:09):
Oh wait, no, I you're still alive. I think it
depends on you because there's one team left, right, yes, yes, yeah,
So whoever gets it?

Speaker 1 (57:19):
All right?

Speaker 3 (57:21):
Three?

Speaker 2 (57:22):
Two the Cardinals.

Speaker 3 (57:25):
Nope, Buyer is the last one standing in there with
the Razor Angels. It's the Angel Angels. Angel right, So
three way tie here between Rich, Mike, and Bayer. As
we go to the fourth category, out of a cannon,
you have five seconds to name an NFL QB who
led Week one with the most passing yards. We're going

(57:45):
to take the top fifteen. All right, Mike, you're going
to be at first starting right now.

Speaker 11 (57:49):
Go all right, Let's go with my home Yes number nine,
two fifty eight. Let's go Smith, you know, Smith number
two with three sixty two.

Speaker 3 (58:03):
Rich Rock, Party Rock, Purty number seven seventy seven, Cono
Mayfield Baker. Sorry, I don't know.

Speaker 2 (58:12):
Sorry, I'm making all the worst picks, Mike.

Speaker 3 (58:18):
I'm loving at you. I was living at it. Just
failed busardly today you're out justin.

Speaker 7 (58:25):
How about Herbert number three.

Speaker 2 (58:27):
With three eighteen?

Speaker 3 (58:29):
Buyer Josh Allen, Josh Allen, number one, Rich, Joey Flacco
Joey Flacco number five two ninety Yeah, nice, Poul, Mike.

Speaker 10 (58:42):
About Kyler Murray.

Speaker 3 (58:44):
Kyler Murray none on the between between buyer and Rich
for the game, Buyer Aaron Rodgers, Aaron Rodgers number eleven
two forty four, Drake May what you said Mace number
six to eighty seven? Oh good call real back back
to Buyer Lamar Lamar, Mark Jackson, thank you, No, none

(59:06):
of us in the That means Rich is the last
one standing. Michael Pennox or SA penix number four, Stafford
number ten, field number fourteen.

Speaker 2 (59:17):
Wow?

Speaker 3 (59:18):
What about rattlers? Spencer Rattler right at fifteen bottom of
the rattler I know had over two hundred All right,
all right, that is Rich's fourteenth win in this game.
And by the way, I did check the notes, Spyers, right,
he has thirty one in this game, so you still
got some catching up to do, Rich.

Speaker 2 (59:35):
I know, well one day.

Speaker 1 (59:37):
Thank you guy, Mike, Mike, thanks for playing. Let's go
to Dan for an update. You man, I want to think.

Speaker 4 (59:43):
I want to think another Mike. I want to think
Mike Fredericks listener to the communa on Rich who sent
me a Seahawks gift pack. Mike was a lived in
Seattle for a while way back in the day. Was
a Rams fan. Then they left LA so he's like, hey,
I was in Seattle cheered for the Seahawks. Rams came
back to l he's a Rams fan again, but at
times as a Seahawks fan, and send me some Seahawks stuff.

Speaker 3 (01:00:05):
So thanks to Mike Fredericks for doing that.

Speaker 2 (01:00:07):
Nisy, what a guy.

Speaker 4 (01:00:09):
What a guy, from one bird to another. Jalen Carter,
Philadelphia Eagles suspended one game, but not the game that
you think the NFL role today that because he was
ejected so early in the opener against the Cowboys for
spinning on Dak Prescott, that that will serve as his
one game suspension. He will play against the Chiefs in
Week two. Carter was doced a game check worth more
than fifty seven thousand dollars for his actions. Forty nine

(01:00:33):
Ers plays ten and George Kittle on injured reserve and
released kicker Jake Moody.

Speaker 8 (01:00:37):
Now.

Speaker 4 (01:00:37):
As for Moody's replacement, forty nine Ers have signed Eddie Pinero,
formerly of the Carolina Panthers. TMZ reports Dolphins wide receiver
Tyreek Hill is denying allegations he abused his estranged wife,
who claimed Hill abused her on eight separate occasions from
January of twenty twenty four until April of twenty twenty five.
The Bulls are restricted free agent guard Josh Giddy agreed
to terms on a four year deal worth one hundred

(01:00:59):
million dollars. Games getting underway in baseball tonight. Cubs they
placed outfield Kyle Tucker on the injured list with a
string CAF, and the Red Sox plays Dustin May on
the injured list. They're gonna start Connelly early tonight, one
of the top pitching prospects the left of you will
be the starter against the A's guyspect you.

Speaker 1 (01:01:15):
Yeah, Dan, when you said Tucker injured, it just proves
I want to remind everyone. And this is what I
want to wrap the show with. Coming up next, I
want to talk baseball for a week because every fan
base is so pessimistic. I don't know anyone who would
disagree with this. There's no team that I feel is

(01:01:35):
a favorite at all. Maybe Milwaukee, but then again against
the Padres, Dodgers, Phillies, do you trust them to win
a playoffs? And again that's just because I don't believe
in them yet, but I wish them the best. I
do feel like reality will kick in with a team
like the Brewers. They're hot right now, but I think

(01:01:56):
a deeper team. But then you could say they're built
to win. Say that they do have good pitching and
they're built to win, but I don't believe. I just
don't believe it because I feel like, yeah, they're riding
on this young, excited chemistry high right now.

Speaker 2 (01:02:08):
But will that translate in October? I mean it might,
but I don't believe that.

Speaker 1 (01:02:13):
I look at baseball right now and I say, you
have a bunch of teams fighting for these playoff spots.

Speaker 2 (01:02:18):
So I do think it's anyone sees the divisions are
still up for grabs, but.

Speaker 1 (01:02:22):
You're looking at a bunch of ninety ish win teams.
And when you have a bunch of teams that are
gonna win ninety three, ninety four, ninety two ninety games,
there's no one that's like, that's the team to be.
Does no one that has the starting rotation of like
a Braves team of the nineties, or or a Dodgers
team or the last year, or a lineup that's a
healthy like the Dodgers that looked the way they did
last year. So to me, I don't look at anyone like,

(01:02:45):
oh man, my team's hopeless. I feel like, if you
get in and get hot, it's more than ever It's
always been that, but more than ever now, whoever's hot
in the postseason has the best chances anybody season.

Speaker 2 (01:02:56):
And that's what I think. Yeah, will the Brewers even
get out of the NL?

Speaker 3 (01:03:02):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (01:03:03):
You don't and you won't know. And then you look
at teams where you're like, how does your team match up?
Like the Mets, who look terrible lately, they match up
well against the Dodgers, but the Padres have their number.

Speaker 2 (01:03:15):
The Yankees.

Speaker 1 (01:03:17):
They're playing Detroit right for a three game yea set
and you start, and you could say that's a little
preview of the Ale app picture, right, Yeah, so big series.

Speaker 2 (01:03:24):
I feel like he's a right dead in the middle.

Speaker 1 (01:03:26):
I feel like a twelve game series, a twelve game
run with playoff contenders. I feel like the Red Sox
have played you guys tough this year. M hmm yeah,
and Eraaldus Chapman has owned them, so I think that
their daddy. I think that more than ever, if you're
a baseball fan, there's a sense of listen, if my
team sneaks in. There's no team that's like, wow, they're

(01:03:47):
throwing Smolts, Glavin and Maddox, like unless the Brewers are
the real deal, but we don't know they. Yeah, but
is there a starting rotation in baseball that resembles anything
of dominance of the last ten, twenty thirty forty years.

Speaker 2 (01:03:57):
No, And there's no bullpens.

Speaker 3 (01:03:59):
That's great.

Speaker 1 (01:03:59):
The thing, there's no bullpens. Even if there's a good
starting pitching. If you can get past that or get
into the late innings and work the bullpen, it's anyone's game.
Trust me, I follow a baseball real call so the
same level I fall football, and I tell you that
there there's something to be said about there's great teams,
but a rotation that scares me doesn't exist.

Speaker 2 (01:04:21):
There may be a front line starter, but there's no.

Speaker 1 (01:04:24):
Rotation where you're like, wow, all two or three guys
in a three game series scare me?

Speaker 2 (01:04:29):
So rich?

Speaker 1 (01:04:30):
Is Garrett Cole's injured wheeler for the Phillies injured? So
even some of those front line guys are out a
lot of those front And then then you got to say,
is there advantage for a crappy team like the Mets
who are throwing all these young arms that people might
not have even seen yet.

Speaker 2 (01:04:45):
I like your boy Tong even though he got roughed
up a little bit his last start. He looked good.

Speaker 1 (01:04:49):
So the point is you're not the only fan out
there that feels like your bullpen stinks. It's anybody season,
which makes it that much more exciting.

Speaker 2 (01:04:58):
Get in. That's all you need to do in baseball.

Speaker 3 (01:05:01):
Get in.

Speaker 1 (01:05:02):
So we'll see you guys manyana enjoy some baseball tonight
and that tomorrow you got to Charlie Sheen documentary and
Midweek Major. There you go, ribadreci may see you in
the Promised Landing.
