when they count money? Oh handed oh two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine,
ten thousand dollars. Yeah, ash right, Hey, Alina, I'm a
man of my word and thank you for giving me
(01:36):
a good deal. Alanis always pays his debts. A Dickey
Davis also pays his debts. Yeah, he owed me twenty
one hundred total because of the Yankees Mets bet. The
Yankees had eleven more games over the Mets. I know,
so I said, you know what, give me that show, hey,
card and Nick cash miney right, all right, Hey, what
(01:57):
a way to cap off a magical season. Thank you
very much much, and maybe, just maybe I'll give you

owe a big apology to. Let's get into it. Let's
(02:42):
get this show going. Everyone in the sports world, especially
NFL fans, should say, Sean Payton, we are so very sorry,
mister Peyton. We were wrong and you were right. I
thought about this the drive in today. We got the
Broncos versus Danny G's Raiders tonight and as Kevino said,
(03:06):
who's in control of the AFC? The Horsey Teams, the
Horsey Teams Man coultson Broncos. Yeah, you never realized that
Peyton Manning played for the Horsey Teams. He's a Horsey
type of guy. Yeah, and he loved sex in the City,
Sarah Jessica Parker, right, yes, And as we stand today,
the Horsey Teams Colts are seven and two, Broncos are
(03:29):
seven and two. And it was a few years ago
when Sean Payton took over for Nathaniel. I can't quite
hack it for the Denver Broncos. And if you remember
Pet Nathaniel, that's my buddy Hacket. Oh yeah, okay, that's
a good one too. I remember. As for the old guys,
Buddy Hacket joke. That's for the old guys in Sam,
(03:50):
because Sam's an old soul. Yeah, I love Buddy Hackets.
Yeah shee. So he leaves the Saints after an NFC
championship and everyone's saying, man, Sean Payton's walking away from that.
I guess it's over. Takes a year off if we
remember correctly, and then he re emerges as the guy
(04:11):
that's gonna take the Broncos to where Mike Shanahan took
him to where you know, other coaches in the past
couldn't really right, like, we're gonna try to get back
to those those golden years. His stock was low at
the time, so you know, in our defense, it looked
like a weak move, like, come on, man, you're trying
to polish a turd here. Don't sell me on this.
(04:32):
You see a bright future in Denver sort of thing.
That's how it felt. I mean, when we were kids,
like Dan Reeves couldn't get the job done completely. Shanahan did.
And then the Broncos are looking for that next like
generation and very quickly the combination of Sean Payton and
Russell Wilson were mocked on social media. We're mocked in
(04:55):
the sports media. Within the first half of the first season,
there were headlines were saying, Sean Payton grand opening, great closing,
He's not even gonna last a year. This is a nightmare.
Remember the whole Russell Wilson's circus that went along with it.
They couldn't really see eye to eye on things. I'm
reading some headlines now Sean Payton left to go sucking Denver.
(05:18):
Peyton wanted to leave after the NFC Championship game for
this He's not even gonna last six weeks. Fans were
so down on Sean Payton and that Russell Wilson COMBA.
Remember Russell Wilson. Sean Payton came in and immediately was like, yeah,
if this guy has his own office, that doesn't fly
with me. Am I remembering correctly? No, Yeah, there was
a lot of drama and then you know, up until
a couple weeks ago, people think Sean Payton took another
(05:40):
shot at RUSS so it wasn't a matchmate at Heaven.
People thought, oh my goodness, could they hit the reset
button like Cavino when he was losing RBI baseball? Could
you just hit the reset never lost a game of
RBI baseball. Always hit the reset with the big toe.
Speaker 2 (05:54):
That was the move.
Speaker 1 (05:54):
Patent did move big toe accidentally, always hit the reset button. Yeah,
that's never lost. Rest I'm sorry, yep, sorry, guys. Undefeated.
Never lost the double Dribble either. Never. I don't think
I ever lost the game in Nintendo hit that reset button.
Ice hockey, no way.
Speaker 2 (06:10):
Never.
Speaker 1 (06:10):
Two medium guys won, Skinny one fat never lost. So
I just think we all ow Sean Payton and a
few people we could add to the list. Well, you know,
you know, this sounds very similar to a lot of
the backtrack and everyone did with Dan Campbell because he
talked the big game about his lions. Everyone was like, yeah, okay,
but biting Weekend he showed that his gritty ways and
(06:33):
his tough sort of attitude translated on the field. It
just took some time. But did everyone get a nice
little laugh and chuckle at his demeanor at the press
conferences like okay, Dan talking about biting neecap And then
it showed in the next few years, I got another
one for you, Duval, and all of a sudden the
(06:53):
Jags look better than they did in a few years.
To that's a good one, Like, yeah, we all laughed
at their expense, but looking back in retrospect, they were
onto something. Jacob de Gram also comes to mind too,
because he left your Mets and his quote was, yeah,
I really believe what the Texas Rangers are doing. And
(07:13):
we laughed everybody, even here on the show. Well we
were doing Sundays, we were doing Sundays here on Fox
Sports Radio. We're like, yeah, you believe what the Rangers do.
Let's go to the Rangers for the winning culture. They
win the World Series in next year. So yeah, he
was onto something. He was right, and we said, hey,
we're sorry he was right about that. We're gonna add
(07:34):
Sean Payton to this list because even if they don't
win at all, their playoff bound and I'd say they're
a top three team in the NFL right now. I
think that's it's debatable, but it's fair to say that
they're seven to two and they should be eight and one.
If you remember, one of their losses was against the
other Horsey team exactly remember the Colts. It was a
penalty on the missfield goal, so they got a second
(07:55):
shot at it and then they got the field goal,
So they should be eight and one again. A top
AFC contender, and just two years ago the headlines were
that Seun Payton's a disaster, Denver made a mistake. What
are they doing? People are laughing and mocking, and it
just lends itself to two thoughts I want to bring
(08:15):
up here. Number one, we want to hit you guys,
to hit us up. Who else deserves a sports apology?
We're sorry? Who else deserves of it? All way? Sorry
not show what happened there? And the other layer is
this just goes along with the narrative Danny that we've
talked about for years on our show. Right, people's lack
of patience and I get it. I ordered my son
(08:39):
a Mookie Betts Jersey Dad. When does it get here?
Oh buddy, it was like a Wednesday ass and I'll
be here Friday. Friday. I'm like, yeah, that's like in
forty eight hours. Do you want it to show up? Like?
Speaker 2 (08:53):
Now?
Speaker 1 (08:53):
This goes back to the Ronnie very famous Ronnie Chang
bit that we quote often here on the show. Ronnie
Chang says, we live in a prime now world where
we want it now, prime now. We want to order
click the button and then hear our doorbell ring and
have it on our doorstep immediately. We lost Patience Prime.
Now I don't want it tomorrow. I don't want it Friday.
I want it now. That's really how it is. We
(09:15):
want instant results. I want everyone in this room to
admit this. Manci, I'm talking to you as well. Have
you ever clicked on something you're buying on Amazon and
if it's not next day, you're like, what.
Speaker 2 (09:26):
Oh yeah, you go with a different brand. Time.
Speaker 1 (09:29):
It's not gonna hear it. It won't be at my
doorstep within twelve hours.
Speaker 3 (09:33):
I need it to be like two days. Two days
is my max, max max. And if not, like Danny
G said, I'm looking for another option.
Speaker 1 (09:40):
You might not even need it, I know, but I.
Speaker 3 (09:42):
Want it, but I want it in my possession, so
don't have to worry about it.
Speaker 1 (09:44):
It's the culture we live in. And you know what,
here's another example. It affects not only us as adults,
which is crazy. Kids grew up this way. So if
you watch like an old movie with kids, you know
how I love old cartoons and old movies. Start with
the credits. Kids are like, what is this trash? Give
me the action now? They don't want to see and
(10:06):
sit through credits. They want the movie to start right
then and there credits.
Speaker 2 (10:11):
What's even worse is cod can't wait from one episode
to the next, you know, like on Netflix where the
little box lights up and it says next episode in
twenty seconds.
Speaker 1 (10:22):
Nah, yeah, says more more more Rich says that his
kids like would cry when commercials would come on something.
I'm like, kids, these are commercials nah now because we
want yeah, we want everything now. We want results now,
we want to win championships. Now. That's the world we live,
and we don't let things develop. We lost player development,
(10:43):
We lost artists development. You know me. Artists are dropped
from labels because they don't come out with hits when
people want them. Hey, you guys are the most talented
band ever. Now we dropped you because you didn't develop
in three months. Let me tell you it's uh. It's
something we've talked about quite a bit. But I always
like readdressing this because you said it right. There's historical,
(11:03):
phenomenal great TV shows, athletes, things that never would have
been given time to breathe. Had we went by this mindset,
Seinfeld would never have happened. One of the greatest shows
of all time. Seinfeld's ratings would have made that show
be canceled in today's world. Peyton Manning historically had that
(11:24):
terrible first rookie season where maybe in today's culture they're like, yeah,
he's not the guy. We might need to move on.
Troy Aikman absolutely been stunk. These are all great examples
of things that took a little time and patience was
a part of our life, so we let them develop
and reap the benefits of it. But don't tell me
May's world there is none of that. Don't tell me
(11:44):
that you or I or any better though, because I'll
give you an example where I'm not. It's not but
it's not our falls the culture we live in. I'm guilty.
I if I can't order food with mobile pickup, my
mindset is like whoa wait in line at the restaurant
he had no thanks?
Speaker 3 (12:03):
Like with Starbucks, it's like, if it's not working or
it doesn't take mobile orders, I can't.
Speaker 1 (12:09):
We're we're not taking mobile orders. I'm like, well then
I'm not going right. I'm the same way, my god.
By the way, have you got your bar rista? Barrista no,
you're barrista?
Speaker 4 (12:20):
No?
Speaker 1 (12:21):
What is that? I'm telling you now, not because I
think everyone would want one, but you'll remember I said
it first. Today is the first day they're doing Christmas
drinks at Starbucks, like all the peppermin and gingerbreading about
that life. There is a Starbucks collector's cup that's in
the shape of a bear with a little knit cap on,
and they're saying this thing is gonna be like five
(12:42):
hondo online, like people are selling them out everywhere. So
I'm here for the Yeah, so there's the barrista.
Speaker 3 (12:47):
Well, if you get one, and then you can make
your money back that you just give Camino.
Speaker 1 (12:50):
So yeah, that's my new You know what, I'm gonna
use one thousand dollars and buy a few of them, right, Yeah,
COO's gonna hoard bars like tackle milmos in the two thousands.
That's right. I haven't had already online. So is there
anyone else we own an apology to a la Sean
Payton style because in retrospect, he was onto something and
(13:12):
he was right. We were wrong. Not we the show
we everybody I got, Well, nobody saw that. Every interviewer
Late night and new shows that do you ever see
these old interviews where people mock bezos like Amazon, you
sell books and you're in debt. Remember how's this gonna work?
And he's like, well, it's a business plan, and he
(13:34):
was like, mock, it's funny to say that. I'll tie
it back to sports. There's a very famous clip of
Conan O'Brien, who I love, by the way, I think
Conan's the best. He's sitting there talking to Joe Rogan,
and Joe Rogan's talking about UFC and how he believes
in it, and Conan's sort of like chuckling at him, like, yeah,
you really think it's gonna take off?
Speaker 5 (13:50):
Huh?
Speaker 1 (13:51):
The fight game? Really it seems pretty barbaric. I don't
see that happening. Don't know, what do you think? Andy?
And Joe Rogan's like, no, this is the next big thing.
Turns out he was right. Well, if you want to
do Late Night, then we have to remember when Michael
Jordan was on The Late Show with David Letterman, and
Letterman held up the first og air Jordan and he's
(14:12):
like this is hideous. Who's gonna buy this? And Michael
Jordan chuckled. They all had a good laugh. I was
gonna say he mentioned the colors, and because you know,
thinking back, sneakers were boring looking they were, and mostly
track sneakers and old school like converse and things like that.
That red and white. Yeah, it looked weird, but to
(14:32):
a kid back then, it looked amazing. So he was wrong.
Jordan was right. This Peyton thing, this Sean Payton thing,
is a modern day version of he saw something that
no one else saw. You could say he got lucky.
You could say, you know, Bo Nicks helped this narrative,
but either way, it turned out that we owe him
(14:53):
an apology because they're playing great football and who are
we adding to the list. And the other part of
the story, guys, is the patient that's involved in this.
You know, we don't let players develop. We don't let
things develop anymore. It's just not the world we live,
and we expect immediate results. I mean it doesn't always work.
I mean we've been trying to trust the process in
Philadelphia for what a decade ago? Yeah, but let's think
(15:14):
of those examples of a coaching decision, a personnel decision,
something where at first it was mocked or made fun of,
and all of a sudden, you fast forward you're like, no, No,
that actually was.
Speaker 2 (15:26):
Brilliant JJ Reddick looking no further, Oh that's Lebron's podcast. Boy,
what a joke. There were actual monologues on our network
calling it the biggest joke in sports history.
Speaker 1 (15:38):
And now he has a respected coaching Bakers are hot.
Lebron's not even playing. I don't think anyone ever undermine
his basketball IQ. But they were clowning him on his
Lebron association and that he wasn't the guy and now
they're great, they're playing great.
Speaker 2 (15:56):
It was just a homie hook up.
Speaker 1 (15:58):
Yeah, homie hook exactly. Yeah. I'd say we're still early
on that one because they still got to prove it.
But he seems to be legit. I mean, I don't
think anyone doubted how great show Hailtan he was. But
there were people that thought, well, that's way too much money,
and the fact that the Dodgers sort of have made
that money back in the year yea year. I'd say
(16:18):
that anyone that doubted, like that's just how how could
you pay that type of money? They deferred it and
they already got it back, so like that was, you know,
a ridiculously good decision. You know who we might someday
own apology. I'm just thinking of people that got a
lot of criticism, and you know, we're still on the
fence about you know, when Tom Brady got in the booth,
(16:38):
he garnered tons of criticism, especially because of all he
pushed Alson out. We're comparing him to Alson. We don't
know how good he's going to get, you know, a
few years from now and we're going to look back
and say, hey, remember how everyone was so hard on
tom Brady. The dude was just starting out. You know,
we don't give people time to develop. I think Jeter
gets some of that criticism now too. We just saw
it in the World Series, in the post Game. It's like,
(17:00):
he's not a broadcaster. In a few years he's probably
gonna be a lot better, and we're gonna say they
were kind of hard on the guy was his first
few years doing this. Maybe he could order a personality
on Amazon. I think tom Brady's a good one. I
think tom Brady's so competitive that a few years from now,
we're gonna look back and be like, yeah, we were
hard on him. I mean, he had never done it before.
He's great.
Speaker 2 (17:19):
Now. How about Nico Harrison, He traded away a fact Luca.
Speaker 1 (17:24):
Wait a second, I mean, but we don't know that
story yet, right, like, ohow, they're playing yeah right now,
but they got flagged. They got some potential, but they're
not scoring good, scoring a lot.
Speaker 2 (17:35):
And I was going to say, I mean, obviously Luca
trimmed down and got in shape and he looks like
an MVP candidate at this point.
Speaker 1 (17:42):
What's the stat that came out today that Luca has
more points per game than Davis and Flag combined. Bine, Oh,
you know what, speaking of Tom Brady, you missed them
the more obvious one. I'm not saying you did. No, no, no,
go ahead. Our buddy Mauser hit us up listening in Kentucky.
What's up, budd Hey, buddy, he said, I'm Brady going
to the Bucks was mocked as like, that's where you're going. Wait,
(18:05):
you leave, you leave Belichick and your dynasty to play
for the Buccaneers, because remember it was like that felt
really weird. There were other landing spots that felt at
the time better, But looking now, you're like, well, he
did have great personnel and everything, but you know what,
Tom Brady going to the Bucks was mocked. Guy Wins
the Super Bowl. These are these are good examples. I
(18:29):
love these guys. Eight seven, seven, nine to nine on Fox.
We'll take the rest of your feedback. Next, put your
thinking cap on, which is what a fedora? What's your
thinking cap? And link in top hast put on your
thinking cap and let us know what Travis Matthew, what athlete?
What musician? What notable figure? Who was mocked? And we
(18:51):
sort of own apology, like, yo, we were way wrong,
and uh say sorry, we didn't see it. Because going
into tonight's game, Danny no offense. They should meet your Raiders,
which would then leave them eight and two after ten
games and a legit Super Bowl contender Sean Payton bo Nicks,
a team that two years ago people were saying was
a laughing stock because Sean Payton had no clue. He's
(19:13):
not gonna last the season. And now you could argue
this this is the team to be in the AFCA.
Speaker 2 (19:20):
Now I'll just give you a little bit of caution though,
and I'm not being too optimistic because the Raiders did
get blown out by the Chiefs. But this is an
in division game. These two are rivals. The last ten
times the Raiders and Broncos matched up. The Raiders are
eight and two against the Broncos and a lot of
those were losing Raiders seasons. So these two teams always
play each other really tough.
Speaker 1 (19:40):
So the lesson here too, it's not just in football,
it's in life. You gotta let things simmer and breathe
a little bit and let things develop before you make
a full assessment. As you know, this sucks.
Speaker 2 (19:52):
You know, so you're saying you'd give Pete Carroll another
year in Vegas because he's trying to implement his system.
Speaker 1 (19:59):
That yeah, like it takes a minute for things to
click in right and say, I'll give you an example,
like my dad. He goes on these kicks of like
vitamins he takes or whatever, a new sort of regiment
that he's on. I'm like, hey Dad, how you feeling
any better?
Speaker 2 (20:12):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (20:12):
It didn't work? Yeay, Hey dad, you're taking those beat vitamins.
Those beats. Yeah, it took them for a week. Eight
they suck. Do it away. It would do nothing like
Leonard like run into your system. Maybe take it like
for two weeks or so, maybe even a month. See
how you feel. Nothing. That's a great one. Health, health
(20:33):
and fitness. How many times?
Speaker 6 (20:34):
Let it?
Speaker 1 (20:34):
How many times as someone expected immediate results for like
immediate results. Yeah, I've been going to CrossFit or Orange
Theory for a week. What's I'm not seeing results? It
takes some time.
Speaker 2 (20:45):
Oh, my FM radio station Eye programmed. Back in the day,
we would have sponsors come aboard and if they didn't
get immediate results in one day of airing commercials, they
flipped out. And I remember our general sales manager always
used to tell them give them three weeks. Please give
the listeners three weeks to hear about your company.
Speaker 1 (21:03):
But not only that. I got it, guys. Rome wasn't
built in a day, like wit did you come up
with that? Yeah? Like that one? Wow, write it down.
That's a good one. Write it down. But Danny the
radio one is a great example because when a new
morning show, let's say, takes over or they flip a format,
they always say give it a year or so you
can't you got to give it. They always say two
years as the magic number, like give a show or
something two years, because you can't expect something to come
(21:26):
in a coach, a format, change a new show, a
character like it wasn't arrested development Another example of a
show they thought was a failure Family the plug on
Family guy. You know, again, when you give things a
chance to grow and develop, you know, you get the
results that you were hoping for. Not all the time,
but you'll never know if you cut the court too soon.
(21:46):
So we say, Sean Payton, We're sorry, We're sorry, hey,
And when I say we, I mean our show in particular.
We're saying we the public because everyone thought this dude
was full of it, like, yeah, you're gonna turn the
Broncos around and you're gonna make them playoff contenders. At
the time, it was looking. It was the word glum, glim, glim, glove.
(22:12):
It was looking. It was not looking good. How about
that with all the Russell Wilson stuff. And again he
turned around. What is it glib? He called Matt lowerd glib.
It was looking glib. Grim grim damn grim damn grim.
It was gloomy, damn some g word.
Speaker 6 (22:34):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (22:34):
But it turns out he was right because they're good.
And there's lots of examples. But the other side part
of the story is patience. Someone once told me he
or she who can master patience can master anything. There
(22:55):
you go here or she's just here. The little patience.
If you can master patients, you can master anything. Sometimes
things take time to develop. But in today's world, we
don't have the patience to allow that to happen. We
don't have the time. We want results right now. If
mobile sports, if mobile orders down, you pick another store.
If Amazon says it won't get there by tomorrow, you panic.
(23:18):
And what we'll get here tomorrow?
Speaker 5 (23:20):
We yo.
Speaker 1 (23:21):
Everyone needs a deep breath. Man, What did the traveling
Willbury say on a throwback Thursday? It's going to take time.
A whole lot of precious time is going to take patient.
Speaker 2 (23:31):
In our defense, Rich, couple of our favorite teams. We've
been patient for what thirty five years?
Speaker 5 (23:36):
Yeah? True?
Speaker 1 (23:37):
People say, Rich, you're a Mets fan. I said, I'm
very patient, sign of a good character, very patient. My
kids said, Dad, the Dodgers won. When was the last
time the Mets one? I'm like when I was your age.
Dad's very patient. It's going to really feel a good
when it happens. All right, let's go to your calls.
Who deserves an apology? A la Sean Payton because we
are just not patient, you said, Dan Campbell's a great example.
(23:59):
We make yeah, we make fun of certain people and
they get the last last. But it's the truth. Though,
looking back, you did think Dan Campbell was a clown?
You did. You're like, yeah, whatever, dude, you're just another
raw Ron guy thinking you're gonna bring the Lions to glory.
And hey, he did. He turned it around. They bought
into his mindset and mentality. So sorry, call Florida. What's up, Budday?
Speaker 4 (24:25):
What's going on?
Speaker 7 (24:25):
Guys?
Speaker 8 (24:25):
Hey, buddy, Hi, man, I appreciate taking my call. Love
the show. Yeah, how about ed Ordron Go Doggers twenty
sixteen gets hired. Everybody thinks it's a joke, man, this
guy's a stupid lineman. Fine coach coordinator Tom Herman was
the hot guy at the time. I think he went
from Houston to Texas and that was there. Everybody was
praising that move. And then you know, three years later,
(24:47):
Drown's you know, walking away with the national championship and
one maybe one of the greatest college teams of all
time and.
Speaker 1 (24:51):
One of the greatest coach voices of all time, one
of the best voices in sports of all time. Right,
all right, let's go to Joe in West Virginia. What
up joke?
Speaker 4 (25:00):
Joe.
Speaker 9 (25:00):
Hey, guys, you stole him on there with Dan Campbell.
I think he's clearly the most obvious choice. But what
he really did was change the culture. And that's exactly
what Detroit needed. They needed a coach, but they needed
a dramatic culture change.
Speaker 1 (25:15):
Yeah, and it worked. At the time, we just thought,
like you said, I just know the guy that's gonna
come in here and fail. That's how you feel about
every quarterback that goes to Cleveland, right, Eventually there will
be someone, yeah that does it. We got hit up.
I'm looking at our feedback at coven On Rich. I'm
sure it's sports entertainment, but when they make some of
these movies like John Cena Turns Heel or remember Hollywood Hogan,
(25:39):
you don't think there were people that are like, how stupid.
This is never gonna work and it ends up being
a really good gimmick generates money, big pay per views,
like there are times where you know what. Speaking of which,
when Logan Paul and Jake Paul first started boxing, I
remember my wife, who I guess followed them on TikTok
or Twitter at the time or in Instagram. My wife's like, yeah,
(26:00):
this KFC guy is fake fighting Jake Paul or Logan
Paul at the timesI KSI, he wasn't fighting the barstool guy.
He was fighting KSI, Yeah, not KFC. No, you know what,
In fact, I owe Rich an apology because I remember
Rich here, I am screaming out all these fights all
the time, right, and Rich doesn't give a Diddley squad
about Virgil Ortiz fighting this weekend. Correct, And then he
(26:22):
came to me when they goes, I'm watching it Logan
Paul ks I fight. I ordered it on YouTube. It
was like ten bus. I was like, what a door?
And all the fights I tell you about and you're
worried about this stupid fight now, Like these are big events,
I said, you were just early on. I said to
my wife, I go, who's fighting? And she told me
two influencers. It's like it was nine dollars on YouTube
(26:43):
live and she showed me the little hype backstory about
the dude you don't like each other. We watched and
I was like, yeah, this is out of entertaining, and
Cavino mocked me and it changed the fight. And now
what do we do? We look forward to what like
the guy ended up fighting his brother ended up fighting
Mike Tyson last year for the big Netflix Live audience
ever exactly, so you were wrong. And again, patients, patients, patience.
(27:06):
We've got to practice it. Things take time. What's up,
Danny G. Some of us are still on a World
Series high. Would you put Dave Roberts into this topic
because during the season he made such horrible moves that
you know, some of my fellow Dodger fans were like,
he needs to be fired at the end of the season.
Dave Roberts is a I was thinking about him A yeah,
he's one World Series playing and coaching. The fact that
(27:29):
he gets hate boggles my mind because the amount of
criticism he got this season. I mean, for a guy, listen,
I get it. Everyone questions their coaches and manager's decisions.
Whatever team you rout for. Everyone thinks they're defense thinks
in football, and everyone thinks they're closer stinks in baseball.
We have the same complaints no matter who you are.
Dave Roberts is accomplished. So I find it hilarious when
(27:50):
when there's so much criticism of Dave Roberts, seems like
a really likable guy to me, Yeah, no, he is
the best.
Speaker 3 (27:56):
He is the best. I'm just like with tour guests
and stuff, he is the best and not an act.
Speaker 1 (28:03):
You work for the Dodgers yet.
Speaker 2 (28:04):
And Monci some of the moves he made in the
World Series, even his haters were like, oh.
Speaker 3 (28:10):
Okay, yeah, I hate the hate he gets because I
think it's he's not the person to blame.
Speaker 1 (28:15):
That's really it the NYG, like, who shut up the haters?
That's what we're giving credit to right now, and that's
why we're apo apologizing on behalf.
Speaker 3 (28:23):
I would like to apologize to the Seahawks. I do
not think that they were going to be as good
as they are.
Speaker 1 (28:27):
You know, it's a good one because when I did
my preseason like everyone else did, little take, iye to
go to look see at the standings, like, all right,
the Rams are I'm a Niners fan, as people know. Sure,
I was like, ah, the Rams and Stafford they got
some juice. If they're healthy, that'll be the competition. I
remember thinking like Seahawks and Cardinals will stink, right.
Speaker 3 (28:43):
Yeah, I just didn't think they were going to be
this good.
Speaker 1 (28:45):
And I think because I think we think we look
at the Seahawks still and think they got the leftovers
of the legion of Boom and Pete Carroll and all that.
Meanwhile they've rebuilt the whole good squad. They feel like
Sam Darnold had some of that jetstank on him still
what he had in Minnesota. Be like, oh, that might
be a fluke, but exactly now we're seeing other He
(29:05):
was with the quarterback whisper in Minnesota. So you thought, oh, yeah, alright,
let's get one more with Scotty right here, and then
we'll go to Monsie for an update. What's up, Scotty.
Speaker 8 (29:15):
I'm a little different approach here.
Speaker 7 (29:17):
Yeah, I'm gonna say the whole Packers organization every time
it comes to drafting a quarterback, that's a great.
Speaker 1 (29:24):
One because they've been When they drafted Rogers, it was like,
how do you do that to far? When they drafted Love,
Look what they're doing Aaron Rodgers. Every step of the way,
they have done the right thing and have developed quarterbacks.
But yet both times it's happened, it's been a mocked move. Well,
I'll say it's interesting, you're right about that. I'm on
the fence about apologizing to Aaron Rodgers. Because I thought
(29:46):
he was done last year. I didn't think he had
any chance of being in any conversation this year. So
you guys has a.
Speaker 2 (29:55):
Show though the last few years are like, I feel
like Rogers is gonna break back out this season. Maybe
it's more so rich, Yeah riched it.
Speaker 1 (30:03):
I was like, yeah, right, I know he was going
about ayahuasca helped me. He was absolutely right. He still
had some game left right now. You don't know he
thinks in ways you our brains haven't even thought of.
That is true. Time for our tire rack. Play of
the day. Luca was on fire. He was fire as
(30:26):
he let the Lakers come back win over the Spurs
last night. Seven seven third quarter actions and Lakers find
themselves down all of a sudden by five, make it two,
make it too not the three by Luca the dawn.
Luca is on fire. He was on fire. A little
bit of a cold night for Wemby, but hey, listen,
(30:47):
it's a long season and that was a great win
for the Lakers. That's courtesy Lakers Television from Spectrum Sports Net.
They beat the Spurs one to eighteen one sixteen. That
is the Tyreck play the game for over forty years,
Tyrack has been helping customers find the right tires for how,
what and where they drive. Ship Fast and free back
by free Road has a protection with convenient installation options
(31:08):
like mobile tire installation all at tiraq dot com. We
tired buying should be and look at the time, lets
do this. There's a certain yea.
Speaker 6 (31:18):
What we gonna do is go back back into town,
throwing it back for a Thursday. Old school went fifty.
That's fifty after CNR give you the time capsule topic
and we reminisce together.
Speaker 5 (31:34):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (31:34):
Yeah, But by the way, speaking of old school, Danny,
when you were watching the Lakers beat the Spurs last night,
did it feel like, oh, the Spurs and Lakers both
good again? Huh Oh, it's nice to see, right, they're
good franchises. They're good for the West. Oh, Wemby fouled out?
Why like two minutes left and the Mookie bets cheering
that on into the crowd.
Speaker 2 (31:52):
The Dodgers, some of the Dodgers were there holding up
the trophy before the game.
Speaker 1 (31:56):
Well, Hank tight on that, because we might discuss does
Luca even want Lebron back? Olater on right now, we reminisce.
We do this every Thursday. We get you involved at
eight seven, seven, ninety nine on Fox and of course
at Covino and Rich at Fox Sports Radio on social media.
In nineteen ninety eight, I graduated college. Time stamped old guy.
(32:17):
I know you wouldn't believe it right when you see
how young and handsome I look when I graduated college
in ninety eight. You look like Mario Lopez now, but
pretty soon you'll look like George Lopez. Oh man, I
hope not. I pray every night. I pray every day.
Geez complete. Oh, I've heard this dandy in La. I
talked to my Mexican friends. They say, one day a
guy looks like a young Latino, handsome guy. Then all
(32:37):
of a sudden, boom, you look like Georgia. O man,
happens overnight. That's why I pray. Nineteen ninety eight was
a good year. Yankees won the World Series, swept the Padres,
Scottie Brochs was the MVP. And one of my favorite movies.
One of our favorite movies sort of goes under the radar,
but everybody loves it. Water Boy came out in nineteen
(32:58):
ninety eight on this day on this day, Oh coach Climb. Oh. Yeah.
Now when you say water Boy, a word that Danny
g said earlier today, underrated now underrated because if you
were to ask me who, I'm a huge Sandler fan
one day, I hope he's on our show like his
good pal Dan Patrick. I love the Sandman, one of
(33:21):
the few big time guests we've never had on. I
would love the Sandman. But when you say, what are
Adam Sandler's best movies, I feel like guys of our
generation and women of our generation always tend to say
the wedding singer, Happy Gilmore, Oh, Billy Madison. There's a handful.
Those are the top three. Yeah, but water Boy even
see people say Big Daddy, water Boy goes under the radar.
(33:41):
So we said, you know what, let's give some props
today to those underrated movies. You know, I say Foosball
every time we talk football. He because I'm a down
ass fool, but mainly because of the movie. Who played
his mom Kathy Bates. Yeah, I see foodsball the time.
(34:02):
No Foosball the Devil is it? Covino Top ten quote,
by the way, Top ten quote, Foosball is the Devil
is never actually sat in sequence in the movie Oh
It's a Devil, Yeah, she says, she calls it foosball.
So you're going to that stupid foosball. So let's hit
us up eight, seven, seven, nine to nine on Fox.
I want to throwback Thursday in honor of the twenty
(34:24):
seventh anniversary of water Boy. What are other underrated movies? Hey,
you can name anything. I'm gonna focus on comedy, but
you can hit us up with anything, because they have
some great underrated comedies that will go over them all.
Next Cavino and Writch.
Speaker 2 (34:38):
Best Tagler us see since Joe.
Speaker 1 (34:40):
Montana every Thursday we do old school win fifty hits.
So we'll talk NBA again. But right now we're talking
water Boy nineteen ninety eight came out on this day
in nineteen ninety eight, and we're throwing it in a
category of underrated comedies because everybody always defaults to Billy Madison,
Happy Gilmore and the Wedding Singer. I would say those
(35:02):
are clearly most people's top three. And here's another little
reason I should say side I love Sidebar. There you go,
thank you, dannyg as to why I Love the water Boy.
And that's Henry Winkler's involved. Hi Hi, Hi Coach Kline.
Hi Oh. I love Adam II one of the best
(35:27):
dudes we've ever met and just turned eighty. To see
the relationship between Adam Saylor and Henry Winkler makes me
so happy. You saw it in the movie Click, you
saw it in water Boy. I find their friendship fantastic.
I love the few vac scenes when you know he
was in the seventies, and remember we had the big
afro and the whole story of the playbook, and dude,
(35:49):
there's so many fun story yet there's so many fun moments.
And remember whatater sucks? Really really that Gyla. There's so
many moments and reasons to really love that movie, but
we sort of overlook it. So we asked this question
on a throwback Thursday. Oh and my boy, Joe Montana
gets a shout out in the movie. If you remember
(36:11):
us seen since Joe Montana? What are some other was
at the cornerback you sures mother under said Joe underrated,
comedies said Joe Montga shows, maybe even music because on
this day Danny g was talking about that sidebar. Get
this this week thirty years ago, this week thirty years ago,
(36:32):
thirty years ago, the song was released and it became
the first ever rap song to reach number one on
the Billboard charts. Yo vip and people have the nerve
to clown on Vanilla Ice. That dude changed hip hop,
whether you want to believe it or not, Ripley's style,
whether you want to give him the credit or not,
(36:54):
you can't take away from the fact that that dude
had everybody doing the running Man and everybody rap in
that song. Oh I knew two words to every song,
and that was Happy Birthday and Ice ized Baby.
Speaker 2 (37:05):
When this first drop did mix shows and on the radio,
we all ran to get a copy of it. We
thought he was black, we didn't know, nobody knew, and
then it turned out he lied about where he was
from and all that. I think that's why, Yeah, that's
why he gets a lot of backlash to this day.
Speaker 1 (37:19):
First rap song to reach number one on the Billboard
Hot one hundred Ice Ice Baby, Vanilla Ice, nineteen ninety
November three, all those years ago. So you know, based
on that and based on Waterboys Anniversary, just underrated comedies,
underrated things that come to mind for you. Well, if
you want to tie it all together. Robert van Winkle
(37:41):
Vanilla Ice has started Adam Sandler movies. Robbie van Winkle
bro to the extreme. He rocks the mic like a vandal.
I was saying, you're trying to think of which one? Yeah,
I know which one? Grown ups? Doesn't he work the
teenage Mutant Ninja Turble. He might have been in that one.
But I'm thinking of the one with where the Sandman
(38:02):
got his teacher pregnant and Andy Samberg's his kid, and
Vanilla is a character Colin Quinn have a scene. Yeah
that is called and you know who's end That also
my little vent Emilia. Okay, yeah, I know I could
picture it, but I got it is all grown up. No,
that is that's smart.
Speaker 2 (38:22):
That's my boy.
Speaker 1 (38:23):
That's my boy. So water Boy, water Boy, Bobby Bouche,
Foosball's the Devil underrated. What else are we adding to
the list. Let's talk about it. Hell, I'm gonna add
that one. That's My Boy was watchable for sure. I
thought you could say role models because you often that's
I have these conversations with Rich often. He loves to
(38:44):
bring up role models all the comedies, because a good comedy,
they say, comedies haven't really been the same since the
Wedding Crashers super Bad era. Those are some of the
last great comedies of our life. But they got credit.
You know, it didn't get credit. Sean Williams, Scott all Rudd.
It was fantastic. That cute little black kid that was
(39:05):
always uh dude was funny. You know he's a grown
up now. Jane Lynch was in that like that to
me was a fantastic movie. If you've never seen Role Models,
that goes so far into the radar. You know what
isn't that is his name, Ken Marino from East Fanning Down.
Remember he was the dad that was disappointed in his son.
I haven't seen it in a minute, so now I don't.
(39:27):
I'm not gonna lie, but you know what I could say, Yeah, yeah, yeah,
well mc cluven played the Sun. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (39:32):
For a second, I thought Role Models was the one
with Adam Sandler.
Speaker 4 (39:38):
What is that?
Speaker 3 (39:41):
I literally just like the Role Models because I thought
it was a different one. What's that Adam Sandler movie
with adults grown ups?
Speaker 4 (39:47):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (39:48):
Yeah, yeah, that's.
Speaker 3 (39:49):
What I thought you were talking about.
Speaker 1 (39:50):
No, those those are pretty radio if you've never seen
Role Models. Moncie honestly, it's.
Speaker 3 (39:54):
Like, really, no, I've seen it now, but it's been
since it came out.
Speaker 1 (39:58):
You know what movie? I think it's just it's just
sports movie that I think is underrated because nobody talks
about it, and it's a comedy but there's some serious undertones.
Goon with Sean William Scott. It's a good one. I
thought that was a pretty good movie. No one ever
talks about it. It's about the hockey Goon. You know,
he's he's a hockey player. It's kind of funny. I
think we're just fans of Sean william Scott. Good guy.
Maybe all right, let's say hi to David and Missouri.
(40:20):
David when we see when we say underrated movies and
even comedies, what comes to one for you?
Speaker 9 (40:26):
Hey, guys, thanks for taking the call.
Speaker 1 (40:27):
Problem.
Speaker 9 (40:28):
I got two quick ones. The first one it just
got removed from Netflix, and I hear I never hear
anybody talk about it.
Speaker 2 (40:34):
But it's wet, hot American summer. I laughed throughout every time. Yeah.
Speaker 9 (40:38):
The second one, I see.
Speaker 1 (40:39):
It, but I never clicked on him. Maybe I will know. Okay.
Speaker 9 (40:42):
The second one I saw about thirty years ago. It
was on skin Max called ninety and naughty.
Speaker 1 (40:48):
Ooh sounds hot. She say ninety at naughty. I've seen
American Summer that is very funny.
Speaker 2 (40:57):
Yeah, have not. I don't know about that second one.
Speaker 1 (40:59):
First, that was great, Hot American Summer, really funny, really
good cast. Really which one are you talking about? Hot America?
You like that?
Speaker 2 (41:05):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (41:06):
Yeah, I like that one, likes a little. I feel
like you like uh artsy comedies like you probably.
Speaker 10 (41:12):
Think it's just it's it's describe it. It's got a
great cast.
Speaker 1 (41:19):
Like I was saying, Fley Cooper's in it. You're smart humor,
you're cut from a Michael Sarah cloth. It depends, It depends,
It depends which I find funny. All right, let's go
to Josh and Ohio is that like a polyester? Yeah,
it's like, all right, who do we got? That's Josh, Hey, Josh,
you're on the show.
Speaker 7 (41:36):
Hey guys, Happy Thursday. The same year, it was a
great year for comedies. But Brindan Fraser sold his soul
to a hot Elizabeth Hurley and became an eight foot
basketball player, but with not all his equipment in the movie,
but dazzled.
Speaker 1 (41:53):
The scene where he sees the sun and he's when
he's the Spanish guy. That whole movie is really funny.
You guys are joke about what he SUTs crying. Yeah,
and on a side note, it's been announced he's gonna
do a Mummy. He's gonna do another Mummy movie, Mummy four. Yeah,
with Rachel. So there's a nice little comeback for him.
But yeah, that's really funny. I agree with you. It's
(42:14):
a really funny, underrated movie. There's a movie that I
think is fantastic. I'm gonna throw it out there. And
by the way, I have a rule on this topic.
The movie has to be known by some You can't
be like, well, there's this independent movie. I'm telling you,
I don't care, never gonna watch it. I'm talking about movies.
We know that. It's like you know what, Yeah it
is good, but no one really talks about it. Yeah,
(42:36):
Cavino can mockby all he wants. There's a movie from
the spot I know, you know, late eighties, early nineties,
Jim Belushi. He's a baseball player that strikes out in
a big game and he goes to a bar, has
a drink and he does the whole like, man, I
wish I could relive that over and he wakes up
and he had hit the home run. I thought this
was your mister Destiny. I haven't seen it for us?
(43:00):
Is so underrated? Is it really well? I haven't seen
it in a minute. John Lovets is in it. Oh
that's the ticket. It's fine. Do you not like mister Destiny?
I feel like you're gonna be right there with me.
So music, TV movies.
Speaker 2 (43:15):
I've seen.
Speaker 10 (43:16):
Mister Destiny was one of my favorite movies as a kid.
So he goes to that bar and they give him
like that secret like milky kind of cocktail drink. I
haven't seen that movie in twenty five years. Probably is
that Michael Caine that gives him that. Yeah, he's like
I think he's like the sort of the spiritual. It
kind of appears. And then but then he gets a
life where he hit the home run, and then his
life just started building further further. But then when he
(43:36):
I don't want to give it away, but when he
lives his new life, he finds it it's not quite
what he married.
Speaker 1 (43:42):
It different. He married a different woman. And and that
movie is incredible too. You maybe think of two movies
just while he was yapping there. He made me think
of two movies that are great that no one talks about.
Family Man with Nicholas Cage again, it's about a different destiny.
Speaker 2 (43:56):
We talk about that during the Christmas season.
Speaker 1 (43:58):
It's so good. Nobody talks about that movie. And I
actually had two more frequency with Jim Cavizil and Dennis Quaid.
Great movie and I had one more and I forgot it,
but I'll get back to you. No cavesl and Quad's
a good one. That was. That was when he talks
to it. He talks to his dad on a CB
in nineteen sixty nine from the Future. That's a really
(44:21):
good movie. Sometimes things get lost in the mix because
there's a bigger name or bigger movie and it gets overshadowed.
The sixth Sense came out and it got all the
buzz because of the twist and what a great movie
it was. He was dead the whole time. But there
was another movie I think it was called Stir of
Echosvin Bacon. Bacon. There's a Kevin Bacon movie called Stir
(44:43):
of Echos that is fantastic, and nobody talks about it
because everyone was talking about six cents. Yeah, I agree
with the definition of underrated. It got sixth sense, got
all the press. No one talked about Star of Echo's
great movie Underrated.
Speaker 2 (44:56):
Back to Paul Rudd for a second. I was answering
the studio line. So I don't know if you guys
mentioned and I love you man.
Speaker 1 (45:02):
Good movie. Slap at the base dude. You know, it's
so funny. That is in my world and in my life.
The last movie that I heard this idiot and spot
come into work with it and they were quoting it
like like and I was I was not in on
the joke. That's crazy, like yeah, flapping the basement, flap flapping, Amaze.
That was a good movie. Because we we are no
(45:23):
longer in that like quotable movie era that we were
living in. That was the last one I heard this
guy quote well here was that. It had to be
mid two thousands because we've done our homework and social
media killed the movie quote. People stop quoting movies the
minute social media came about. It just didn't have any
two thousand and nine man, So blu Forrigno was in
(45:45):
that movie right. Underrated Sorr. Yeah, Underrated movies based on
the water Boy came out on this day. In nineteen
ninety eight. And of course, like we said, we don't
think Vanilla Ice gets the credit he really deserves. He became,
you know, someone people sort of laughed at a little
bit when, and in reality he put rap on the
mainstream and number one on the charts this week. Coincidentally, ironically,
(46:09):
this is the first time since nineteen ninety that a
rap song hasn't been on the charts, So we need
a little Vanilla Ice.
Speaker 2 (46:19):
I love him or hate him, he was a big
part of rap history.
Speaker 1 (46:21):
Yep, that's the truth. Kyle in Vegas, what's up? Kyle?
Speaker 5 (46:25):
Hey, guys, I got two of them really quick cop
out Tracy Morgan Bruce Willis.
Speaker 1 (46:29):
Yeah, that's really That's a movie no one talks about,
but it's so watchable. You're right, honestly, Tracy Morgan, how
do you love Tracy Morgan? It's a good one.
Speaker 5 (46:37):
And the other one is little nicky. And then I
have one really quick for your last segment when you're
all talking about coaches making culture changes, Doug Collins and
getting fired for Phil Jackson.
Speaker 1 (46:51):
Yeah, that's a good one.
Speaker 7 (46:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (46:54):
By the way, I don't know about the weird I
was gonna say, I don't know about the Little Nicky
One unless I have to give it another shot. I
like Harvey cay Tell. We love Adam Sandler, but I
remember watching that and really just not liking it.
Speaker 2 (47:04):
It's bizarre.
Speaker 1 (47:05):
Listen, there's movies and you could call me out and
be like, yo, dude, that's definitely rated. So because I don't.
You don't want to bring up a movie and be
like it's derated and everyone else in the room is like, no,
it's it's pretty rated.
Speaker 2 (47:16):
Properly.
Speaker 1 (47:17):
You can't be like, hey, TV show, that's underrated, breaking bad. No,
it's it's rated. Like do you guys think enough people
think forgetting Sarah Marshall is as good as it is.
I watched that with Kavino Reeseally that's good.
Speaker 2 (47:29):
That's a great one.
Speaker 1 (47:29):
Yeah, because I don't think any when you talk about
your favorite comedies to.
Speaker 3 (47:33):
Mention, right, that's what she does a little British action,
so like, oh yeah, I did not love that movie.
Speaker 1 (47:39):
I'm not even a big Meala Cunas fan, but she
was looking Dino Miight in that movie. Me Lacunas and
I like Kristen Bell and Russell Crowe and Jason Siegel
I just think that it's we took it for granted back. Yeah,
I think it's underrated because when you talk about your
favorite two thousands movies, Russell brand by the way, when
I say Russell Crowe, in my mind, in my mind,
(47:59):
Russell Crowe's that Russell brands are not entertained. So when
you talk about two thousands comedies, people will say, you know,
Wedding Crashers and super Bad and The Hangover. We name
the same one. So I think if it's not in
that they always get named. I think we took that
one for granted. And you watch it back now and
it's really really funny. I actually enjoyed it. I watched
(48:20):
it with Rich recently and I was like, yeah, this
is way better than I remember. I feel that way
about a band actually, and it's a band that's rated.
But I think they're very underrated. And I think because
we took them for granted. There were a supergroup, so
people are like, yeah, what every supergroup, But I wish
we had more audio slave. If you're a rock fan,
the thought of Rage against the Machine teaming up with
(48:41):
Chris Cornell, when you listen back and you hear those
songs now, you're like, man, I don't know if we
cared as much as we should have because they are
that good. They were that awesome, but no one brings
up Audio Slave is their favorite band, but they're phenomenal,
so underrated what our boys style? Who else we got
powooll or maybe Paul. I'll call him Powool in Orlando.
(49:05):
It's Raoul, So that's what I'm saying. Yeah, what's up, Paul?
Speaker 7 (49:08):
It's Paul.
Speaker 8 (49:10):
One little comment about Adam Sandler.
Speaker 4 (49:12):
He wasn't playing a water boy.
Speaker 8 (49:13):
He was a hydration engineer.
Speaker 2 (49:15):
That's right.
Speaker 1 (49:16):
I'm sorry, my bad.
Speaker 9 (49:17):
And secondly, here's the movie Underrated.
Speaker 8 (49:21):
The Legend of Bagger Vance with Redford Damon, Will Smith
and Charlie Stern and Hey Munsey.
Speaker 4 (49:27):
Speaking of Will Smith, let's go Dodgers.
Speaker 1 (49:30):
There you go. My daughter loves Will Smith because she's
also number sixteen and that's our lucky number, so she
likes Will Smith. Did he call you Munseie like Max Munsey?
I wasn't sure if he was talking to me.
Speaker 3 (49:42):
He was talking about Max Munsey.
Speaker 1 (49:43):
Who did Max Monsey. I'm gonna call you Munsey from
now on, Munsey Millennia that she has Mounsey.
Speaker 3 (49:51):
I mean listened to you.
Speaker 6 (49:52):
I may not.
Speaker 1 (49:53):
It's like How I Met Your Mother episode where they
wrote the wrong name on Barney's coffee and all his
friends called him that name like Schwarlie's I let'n call
you Monsey from now.
Speaker 2 (50:01):
And the Dodgers re signed.
Speaker 3 (50:03):
Yeah, they picked up his option.
Speaker 1 (50:05):
Oh that was in your update MONSI. Alright, let's go
to Joe Joe, you're on the show anybody.
Speaker 4 (50:11):
Hey guys, Oh, this the old time. You guys are great.
Cracks me up every time.
Speaker 2 (50:15):
Thank you man you're talking about.
Speaker 4 (50:17):
That's my boy? And I love that that scene where
Dan Patrick is playing that cheesy daytime drama host, you know,
and he gets paid to come in there and talk
about it. But yeah, I forgot that.
Speaker 1 (50:33):
Deep Deep's in a lot of Sandular movies, but he's
prominent in that one. Dan Patrick is prominent, And that's
my boy. Can't you had a quick trivia fact about
the water boy? Yeah, so our very own LeVar Arrington
was the inspiration for the linebacker he plays. You remember
he jumps over the line to sack the quarterback. Yeah.
Speaker 10 (50:51):
Adam Sandler and LaVar Rington spent time together while preparing
for the role. So he was the he was the
like the way that the guy that Bobby Bouchet played
at linebacker Arrington was the inspiration for that.
Speaker 1 (51:01):
You say, we're the only hosts here that don't hang
out with Adam Sandler.
Speaker 2 (51:04):
Yeah, we go.
Speaker 1 (51:04):
Sounds like we have to changes right away. And its
kind of cool though, like LeVar, it's ironic. I saw
Rich at the gym yesterday and he wears Adam Sandler
like mess shorts to the gym. Yeah, like big baggy shorts.
You did. I'm like, where'd you get those? From the
Adam Sandler collection?
Speaker 2 (51:19):
I got one from two thousand and eight, and I
think it's one of Tom Cruise's best roles ever in
Tropic Thunder with Robert Downing Junior. Now, a lot of
the humor in that movie could not be replicated right
now in twenty twenty five.
Speaker 1 (51:32):
Definitely not definitely, not such a such a funny movie.
But it was great though. Honestly, it's Danny McBride. I
thought we were supposed to be units.
Speaker 3 (51:40):
Speaking of Danny McBride Pineapple.
Speaker 1 (51:43):
Express, Oh is that what I'm I think?
Speaker 3 (51:45):
Oh, yeah, that's why I feel like I love that
movie and it's just a little long. I did not
think that I loved Indy Judd Apatow.
Speaker 10 (51:53):
Film starts out really good and then it meanders.
Speaker 2 (51:56):
They're like, oh, I just in this movie.
Speaker 1 (51:58):
Well, we're getting a lot of phone calls and we
appreciate it. So if we don't get to you, remember
hit us up at Covino and Rich at Fox Sports Radio.
I got one that encompasses the two things we love most,
go ahead football and radio. Cuba Gooding Junior in Radio.
(52:21):
No one ever puts that on their list of like, Yo,
that's a great movie. He plays the special needs dude
that hangs around the football guys. They sort of take
him in. It's heartfelt, Like that's a hell of a movie.
Speaker 3 (52:32):
People don't want to watch heartfield things that are going
to make them sad over and over.
Speaker 1 (52:35):
I like to like the Notebook exactly one and done
for me on the Notebook exactly I got a let
me take it back to sports big. Here's an obvious one,
but it's one of the most underrated World Series champions
that I watched day in day out growing up, that
not enough people give credit to because I don't know,
(52:56):
he just didn't play a sexy game. I guess Burnaby
Bernie Williams, Burn Baby burn like this dude. You look
at his stats, you'd kill for those stats and the
way he played and the way he carried himself as
a Yankee, multi talented guy, switch hitter plays guitar at
Carnegie Hall, just like that. Dude is a treasure. I
just think as a dude, he's uns a rated. I
(53:18):
just think he got a crush on Bernie. You think
he's a great guy. It was a great Yankee. I
don't think he gets the credit he deserves. Bernie Williams,
He's definitely one of those guys that just had He
just happen to play on a team with other boys, superstars,
and he was like a you know, a mild mannered
sort of dude. I don't think he gets that credit
that he deserves. All right, on the anniversary of water Boil,
let's take one more for now, and then we'll come
(53:39):
back and we'll talk some NBA, some NFL guys. We
get into week ten. Wrap it up, Virgil in Phoenix,
what's up, my dude?
Speaker 8 (53:46):
Hey? How's the going guys?
Speaker 6 (53:49):
Hey?
Speaker 4 (53:49):
So I got a good underrated comedy. One of my
favorites Michael Sarah Youth in Rebowl.
Speaker 1 (53:56):
Never saw it, never see Yeah, I haven't seen it
so never seen it. Hey, maybe you're right, maybe it's
not rated at all. We got to check it out.
Speaker 2 (54:03):
I'm not even heard of that film.
Speaker 1 (54:04):
Yeah, maybe you're lying to us. But thank you very
much for all the phone calls. But we got to
move on. Thank you guys for hanging out with us.
We're talking Luca now, and the story is, yo, he's
playing big, like this is Luca at his best. He
he came and focused. Let me give you somebody stats here.
(54:26):
Then I'll make you say, whoa five in a row?
Forty points per game making everyone around him look like
a superstar? Forty points per game in comparison to Anthony
Davis and Cooper Flag combined thirty five point two points
per game. So that's perspective, right, And they're playing well,
he's sort of leading the team and that's when he's
(54:49):
at his best. And they're saying that when Lebron gets in,
now you got too many cooks in the kitchen? Well,
I mean, and then you know, Reeves hasn't played every game,
but when he's in there, he's on fire. So like
this team has something going on.
Speaker 2 (55:00):
Also, Luca has made DeAndre Ayton very good.
Speaker 1 (55:04):
This season, who, by the way, was a piece that
you and other Laker fans are saying, could he be
that big guy they need? And will he fit in?
Speaker 2 (55:12):
And apparently in the bigs love getting those passes from
from Luca slob city with him.
Speaker 1 (55:17):
So Kavino's question is do you even want Lebron back?
And I'm just gonna quote Steve Kavino, the guy sitting
next to me. No, no, no, no, hold on, don't
kill the messenger. I'm saying this is the question that
that can only be posed based on what's happening right now.
And you do hear that buzz and you do hear
that speculation. It's like if they're playing this well, it's
(55:38):
like you now you're messing with the chemistry all over again,
like let him win, don't keep on winning. Dare I
quote you from a different circumstances. I'll do my best
Kavino voice. Oh boy, this is before the World series, yo, Bro, dude, bro, gosh,
one more dude, are bro in there? I know you're
just gonna bro. If I'm the Blue Jays, Bro, I
(55:58):
don't even know if you bring shit back like I mean,
that's what the chemistry, bro. What he did is sort
of unheard of, unprecedented. He stepped right in like he
didn't miss a beat. But you debated whether or not
the Blue Jay should mess with that because dude, he
hadn't played in so long, right, Not that he isn't good.
No one's questioning Lebron being good, but maybe they're just
better without him right now, That's all I think.
Speaker 2 (56:21):
The other thing worth mentioning is Austin Reeves is also
off to the best start of his career and then
throwing Jacob Ravia, who was a great offseason pickup, and
you now you're talking too many cooks in the countries.
These are guys that need the ball in their hands.
Speaker 1 (56:35):
The answer may lie in between everything we're saying, Like
there's a little place in between all of our points
that I think makes the most sense, which is Lebron's
not done. But much like in dating jobs situations, you
might be awesome, you might just not really be awesome
for that scenario. And maybe with the current Lakers team,
(56:55):
Lebron just doesn't fit anymore. Maybe that's the answer. By no, means,
is anyone saying Lebron's willing to take a little bit
of a step back, which could be good for everybody,
and let Luca really lead a little more so that
he could still play like Luca and use Lebron as
an ope. I you know what I mean. I just
don't know if he's capable of that. But I just
I think Lebron's certainly not done. Lebron would be such
(57:17):
an asset somewhere else, so maybe I know, the only
thing that makes sense is maybe you get something from
I don't know how that would even work at this point,
but Lebron.
Speaker 2 (57:28):
James Lebron would have to appear'd.
Speaker 1 (57:31):
Yeah, he'd have to make it work. But by the
way you were, you were shooting a messenger, you were
shooting at me before. Don't think that there's not a
lot of speculation of that. On social media and online,
that's where the buzz starts. There are a lot of
people saying that, like, maybe that's a possibility. I get it,
But Lebron's still a guy that could put up triple
doubles and put up twenty five to thirty games, so
(57:52):
he's not done. I just wonder it's like you could
date a good looking girl Cavino, but she just might
not be right for Steve Cavino. True, you know, it's
like so that in mind.
Speaker 2 (58:00):
I think the difference this season so far from what
we saw at the end of last year is the
Lakers have the best bench they've had in a long time.
Speaker 1 (58:08):
Yeah, they were. That bench was meager like Bob Sieger,
that was for sure.
Speaker 2 (58:12):
And no, and you know, besides Jackson Hayes, no real
big guys to mention. But you know, you got to
think about how last season ended. Luca and Lebron do
play well together, but it's just the other pieces like
Austin Reeves and La Ravia as I mentioned, where you
got to figure out how this all fits together.
Speaker 1 (58:29):
Is this crazy talk eight seven seven ninety nine on
Fox or Lebron makes every team better? Well, that's that's
really the question, the tire, the whole conversation together, and
the whole show together. Let's go back to our first
conversation about people we own apology. We're talking about maybe
Lebron needs to go. Imagine Lebron gets healthy steps in
on this team and they are so dominant that they
(58:51):
win the NBA title. Lebron retires and it's like, can
you believe people were saying we should get rid of him?
Like that get very right? Like imagine if Lebron steps
in and what's already clicking clicks even more.
Speaker 2 (59:02):
This is like it would be like Dave Roberts should
be fired.
Speaker 1 (59:05):
Got to fire Dave Roberts. Anyone's in another world series.
So I mean, again, it all goes with the patients,
it goes with the relax. So well, we'll see, but
it should be interesting when Lebron does come back. Your
thoughts because basketball, I mean, it has been really exciting,
even though we've been flooded with great baseball and football
eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox. So if you
(59:27):
haven't been tuning into the Lakers, I think now's the time.
And actually it's time for monci bolognos or as Rich
calls you, monthy, hey, monsy, I know the I mean,
it's still early three and four for your clippers. Excitement
for you or you feel like there's a there's some
potential as sure.
Speaker 3 (59:44):
What I mean, I feel like we're figuring things out,
Like there's almost too many cooks in the kitchen and
some of the cooks are old, and we're just trying
to figure out the best way forward because there is
talent there.
Speaker 1 (59:55):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (59:56):
And they looked good and then James Harden has been
on fire. They can't win, but I just I feel
like they're still figuring out the rotation, how much to
use John Collins and all of that, how much shoes
CP three off the bench? But we have a I
think a good team.
Speaker 5 (01:00:10):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (01:00:11):
Did you see CP three at the uh blind reunions?
I did.
Speaker 3 (01:00:14):
I was like, what are you doing here? What are
you doing here?
Speaker 1 (01:00:17):
He was?
Speaker 2 (01:00:17):
Actually it was Monty. That was pretty much everyone's sentiment,
watching what.
Speaker 1 (01:00:23):
Is happening right now?
Speaker 5 (01:00:24):
Here?
Speaker 1 (01:00:25):
Are they're still shooting? There's still Yeah. It was very weird.
Speaker 2 (01:00:28):
And suddenly it was a shootoff for.
Speaker 3 (01:00:30):
The ring that was even more awkward. The entire thing
was so awkward. It will be awkward when Lebron James
returns to the Lakers, because I also think your Lakers
right now are moving fast. You put them on the court,
that is not going to be It's it's going to
way slow it down because Lebron is gonna demand the
ball in his hands. So I don't know, I don't
know how it's gonna work, says a Laker hater. I
(01:00:52):
love it so much. There's one game today in the NBA.
It's the Clippers and the Suns in Phoenix. No James
Harden for personal reasons. No Leonard because of his ankle injury,
but Bradley Beal won't play in his return to Phoenix.
When it comes to the NFL Week ten starts tonight,
it's gonna be the Broncos and the Raiders. That's going
to kick off at eight fifteen Eastern time.
Speaker 1 (01:01:12):
Kavino and I will be at the game when the
Niners go to Arizona, and it looks like maybe Pearcell
and Purty or back for that, so we get to
see Brock at least Cove.
Speaker 5 (01:01:21):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:01:21):
Well, we were there for his first game ever. Cavino
and I were on a guys trip and that was
when Garoppolo got hurt. I remember everyone in the crowd's like,
who is this Brock party. Never in a million years
in that moment would I have thought, Oh, yeah, this
guy's gonna make fifty million dollars a year.
Speaker 3 (01:01:37):
For the future, your future quarterback exactly.
Speaker 1 (01:01:39):
That's crazy. Any guys were at that and Garppolo was
never the same. And you know what, when you're at
the game, you don't know what happens compared to watching
on TV. So like is like Jimmy G coming back
in the game, What's up? And the beginning of Rock Party.
The best part of that game was I was sitting
next to this Latino lady. Oh yeah, she was feeding
me truros and I'm joking, yeah, Papa wants. She thought
(01:02:04):
Cavino was cute and she was flirting with and kept
buying him treats.
Speaker 3 (01:02:07):
Yea, I love that.
Speaker 1 (01:02:08):
Yeah, because she was for the game. Ye want to
be I'm like, yeah, and another give me a hot dog?
Was she older?
Speaker 8 (01:02:20):
No?
Speaker 1 (01:02:20):
Not really?
Speaker 5 (01:02:21):
Okay?
Speaker 1 (01:02:24):
Dare I say? Is that insulthing? I say, a little
bit of a tortis as they say in the in
l A. That's exactly what it was. Some figured out
that's derogatory or not. I don't know. I just a
big sandwich. That's all the word I hear.
Speaker 2 (01:02:38):
Tortures are delicious.
Speaker 3 (01:02:41):
Are I don't know if it's a term.
Speaker 1 (01:02:42):
If you call me a.
Speaker 2 (01:02:44):
Borda a great sandwich so good.
Speaker 1 (01:02:49):
But to be honest, he couldn't be more accurate. That's
exactly what it was. And I read all the bet
I don't know if I said anything wrong. Hey, we'll
be We'll be back. More comin on Rich next? Yeah
what yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:03:07):
Yo?
Speaker 1 (01:03:07):
Am I hearing some vanilla ice in my headphones? Turn
up the bass on this boy? Iowa, Sam is this
little play that funky music?
Speaker 4 (01:03:17):
Ah.
Speaker 1 (01:03:18):
I used to love this one. Covino's favorite is what
It's Like Kevin Aroney to the extreme.
Speaker 2 (01:03:26):
Covino and Rich shrop that hero and get with this
zero No the other way round.
Speaker 1 (01:03:30):
I used to love it though. Play that fucking music,
all right, Covino and Rich Live from the Fox Sports
Radio Studio. I'm Cavino. That is Rich heat spaghetti with
a spoon. Rich Davis, you know what, Happy birthday. Shout
out to my dude coach ballgame. So if you follow
coach ballgame, let him know Covino and Rich were show
(01:03:53):
him some birthday love.
Speaker 4 (01:03:54):
Well.
Speaker 1 (01:03:54):
I think one of the best follows on social media
other than us. Nah, he's a good He's such a
good dude. Baseball a guest on our over promised show
that's our bonus Pod, and a new episode debuts in
ten minutes, So join us live on Covino and Rich FSSR.
You can also listen, but you could watch the shows.
It's a TV show of sorts, and we're gonna discuss
(01:04:14):
good rumors in sports, good rumors like Khalil, like you
got two and a half cokens in your pants? Exactly what,
Matt Khalil. We're gonna talk who might be asked this week?
Do I like old guy candy? Or does everyone like
the variety bag that someone put in the kitchen? Because Yo,
I was saying, you brought that up.
Speaker 10 (01:04:34):
I had to get rid of that man because it
was giving me the beat us the diabetes. Like, I
gotta get rid of this bag. It's gonna cause me
an early death. And now everyone Martin got a sucker.
You had a sucker, A tutsirol pop. You're a whole
bunch of albums, tutsiro pops, dots.
Speaker 1 (01:04:49):
Remember we talked about dots, Mini Toutsi rolls and those
the flavored Tittsi rolls, like the vanilla one, the cherry one,
Like I think kids would say that's old people candy,
but I'll take it. I love that whole ver. I
know it was cheaper too. It's a nice mix up
instead of getting the usual mix. We said last week
that every kid has the same kidkat Twigs Reese's. So
(01:05:09):
it was also love how coworkers and colleagues just stow
the bait out there to get all the fatties. Because
if you have if you have stuff you want to
get rid of in your pantry, you know you can
bring it to most kitchens and all the all the
trap it is. It's a torta trap and you can watch.
You're like, all right, who's gonna go for my stale oreos?
(01:05:30):
You know who's gonna go for the stale candy? And
they'll be gone. Honestly, if it wasn't bring the weirdest
stuff that you could bring, like leftover like things in
your in your medicine cabinet, it'll go. You can I
haven't used this cream. I'm gonna leave it here, someone
will take it. You can put a little you can
put a little plate of like no joke like Gordon's
Fisherman's it's gone.
Speaker 2 (01:05:50):
I mean, cough drops.
Speaker 1 (01:05:52):
Here's some Flintstones vitamins from nineteen eighty two gone. You
leave them on the kitchen counter and someone will take them.
All right, but you did the express But it's like
you ever see that How I Met Your Mother episode
where they say when you put something out like a
big furniture itemra for trash. By the time you get
to your apartment to look out the window, someone's already taken.
Its true people love stuff. It is freaking especially free stole.
(01:06:13):
I can't take any more, man, I can't have any
more now. Thank you Sam for that. Iowa Sam. Danny
G spots on the videos Covino and Rich fs are.
Moncey was fun hanging with her today. If you missed
the show, you could watch back. You could watch Monci
Covino and Rich FSR. Rich. I know you're gonna give
us more picks on over promised, but what are your thoughts?
(01:06:35):
Week ten begins tonight Broncos Raiders. I mean, we spent
the whole first hour talking about the Broncos and how
wrong we were, and Sean Payton was right and he
turned the whole team around. You got your seven and
two Broncos, your two and six Raiders. The outcome is
gonna be obvious, but how do you how do you
look at this? Danny G is the most optimistic fan
(01:06:57):
and I love him for that. He reminds me of
how I talk about the Mets. That's how he is
optimistic about the raid A divisional game.
Speaker 2 (01:07:03):
I told you last Friday to look out for Bronck Bowers,
and he had a huge gin he did.
Speaker 1 (01:07:10):
I don't know if I if I had a bet
on this game, I Broncos are favored by eight and
a half. I'll touch on this more. I'm gonna put
it as part of my teasers and my over promised bets.
I would take that down to two and a half
and partner it up with another bet making a teaser.
But if I would have to bet this game straight up,
I'm sorry, Danny. I just still think if you told
me the Raiders at the Broncos on twenty seven to seventeen,
(01:07:34):
or you know, twenty four to ten, I think they
win by competitive I think they win by double digits.
And I hate to say that because I would love
to see your team be competitive, But I think in
Denver the Broncos are starting to make a push towards
like are we dominant?
Speaker 2 (01:07:46):
What's scary is the Broncos defensive line, and so Gino
is gonna have to get rid of that ball very quickly.
Speaker 1 (01:07:52):
If he's not batted down and last year, if Gino
has a first quarter turnover, I feel like it might
be over early.
Speaker 2 (01:08:01):
Get some quick passes off to Bowers. Let him pick
up the yards.
Speaker 1 (01:08:04):
Now, brock Bowers, you think you might get some some
good fantasy numbers because Gina will have to start dumping
it off to someone. Could be all right, we'll see
you guys later on. Rive it there, baby, see you
in the over promised land. Let's go
