That was an exciting game, bro, that.

I will say this about the helmets. Don't you think
that they found a new shade of green that we've
never seen before?

I thought everything about that game was amazing from the
comeback because there was a time where when they turned
the ball over in the red zone again DV, you
were like, all right, this A and R night And
then you're like, wait up, hold up. When they hit
that first two point conversion, not the controversial one, the
first one, I was.

Like, Okay, now they're down by eight, that's doable.

Because you missed that, you're down by ten and it's
a different ballgame, and you know, everything about that game
was insane.

I loved it. Dan Byer had to love it even more.

But uh, Covino, You're right, what a what a what
an opportunity for Sam Darnold step up, and he finally did,
right after a couple of misses.

That was one of those games where you stand up

And he did, but not without controversy. And we're gonna

But Dan, you made me think of something else too,
And this is silly, but I want to point this
out I've always loved the stories about Michael Jackson. In fact,
Jimmy Jam shared some about how particular Michael Jackson was
about his music and the sounds and being creative and
how he dwelled on certain words and sounds and things
with the songs. You could hear it on Over Promised,

our bonus podcast, we talked sports and music with Jimmy
Jam superstar producer. Michael Jackson. The artist was obsessed with
creating sounds that people.

Never heard before.

He wanted to incorporate sounds that were brand new to
our ears. And I really do believe that color was
a brand new color to our eyes. I don't know
what that was. That Seahawks color last night was something
I don't think we've ever seen before.

What was it? But you think they invented a color?

Yes, I think they invented a color last night because
I've never seen it before.

I'm not one to really harp on the look and
the colors like you, but Dan Buyer has to get
a new helmet for his collection. And I've never I've
seen that color before, not on the road, not on
a car, not on a helmet.

And by the way, even some of the other uniforms
we've seen, we've kind of been hit and miss and
rich I know, we haven't seen your Niners, and we'll
see their rivalry uniforms in week eighteen. But this is
one that I thought landed Like the Bills when they
wore those, it was okay. I wasn't as big of
a fan of the Patriots. I think you guys liked
the Patriots. One did like the Patriots.

I thought that was a cooler, cooler vibe like Frost right,
the Patriots.

Speaker 5 (04:30):
Right, yeah, yeah, But I felt that this one was
more of something that was more universally accepted or appreciated
by the football community as opposed to the other ones
that we have seen this year.

And dB side note, if people don't know, Dan Byer
collects all the helmets, like many helmets of all the games,
in all the new renditions and versions of these helmets,
does the wife eventually say all right enough with the helmets.

Speaker 5 (04:53):
No, And that's why I married her. In fact, I
have them displayed. I've sent you guys pictures and she
she thinks it looks really good on the wall. It's
not what if you run out of wall space event
like there are a bunch that are in tots. You
just have to do it with discretion. It also, we've
talked about this with you know, we had Benny and
Studio and Emma earlier this week. I think it was

this week when they were talking about all the teams.
That's how I've taught my son the teams. He knows
the helmets, so I think she's all for that as well.
So it's just the when I have different Seahawks ones,
he knows the logos or a different Bills one. When
we were in Buffalo, I picked up the Rivalry helmet
and so he knew that it was Bills, but he
knew it wasn't the normal Bills. So that helps that way.

And you know, it's cool that look that helmet. It's
all synonymous with a really great win. So I did
text Dan Byron last night.

I think all of our buddies were texting each other, like, Yo, dude,
you watching this. My brother texted me this game is
fire friends I haven't heard from in a long time. Dude,
you watching this game? Hit up Dan Byer, congrats it
to win. He goes man that two point conversion. They
didn't get was overturned. I feel I feel kind of
guilty about it. Is that a normal feeling? You're just

happy that you won. Should you feel any sort of
guilt if you're a Seahawks fan? Or is that the
right call and you won? And that's sick? I think
most people would take it that way. But like, when
does that happen?

When does the whistle blow and the ball is there
and your guy just happens to pick it up and
it ends up tying the game?

Speaker 1 (06:22):
Dude? Call it? Call it? You know, sometimes a little
luck is part of the equation. And it was a
backwards pass happened to just float near the end zone,
picked it up, two point conversion.

I stand by.

I don't think anyone would really debate it. I heard
Mike Harmon and Jason Smith lest I happened to be
where was? I was driving around somewhere? Oh? And I
heard I heard them saying that somewhere?

Where'd you go out for a late night massage? Where

Actually, you know what, believe it, I played softball like
ten o'clock last night.

I was like, why was I driving around late at night,
and they were saying that it's not hit, it's not
in the spirit of the game. And I'm like, yeah,
but what's the spirit of the game. Like I I
get it, it wasn't intended, but by the rules, backwards
pass deflection, end zone picked up two point conversion.

You can't twist the rules because it's not in the
spirit of the game.

They got it right, and we want to know your
thoughts on the game. And I do want to ask this.
It's an obvious question, but is Sam Darnold elite And
we just don't want to give them that credit because
of his path. Everybody has a different path. Everyone has
a different journey, right, I'll give you an example, Rich.
Everybody starts out somewhere. I started off in radio as

a van driver. That's sort of your come up, right,
You drive the van, you work in promotions, you hang
up banners, you give out stickers, and the.

Irony of that is that you're the worst driver.

Oh yeah, but you got to get your foot in
the door, right, And my way was to work in promotions,
radio promotions.

No matter what I did, ever, people still pointed at
me like, yeah, that guy used to be on the
street team. So I don't think I really ever got
the credit I deserved as I came up and hey
look at me now Fox Sports Radio nationwide, the world
famous Cavino and Rich show. Right, But to some people
still the van driver. You think, because Sam Donald had

this journey, had this path, he's not getting the credit
he deserves because we still remember him as a Jet
and how he bounced around everything else. Because this dude
is playing like on another level, I think, on a
big stage. That was a big game last night, only
it's a I think it's.

I think he gets just starting to get it.

Well, you know, why can you not, because you know,
if you're a diehard football fan, you remember him in
college as well, and you're like, oh, Sam Donald did
come with a lot of hype, And then I think
there is something to be said. We're seeing more and
more people understand that, hey, the Jets could really just
ruin a guy.

Yeah you know that's part of it.

Speaker 2 (08:53):
But I think that like, yeah, he still has that
or had that stank on him a little bit that
you know, he was on that team, he was part
of that misery.

Speaker 1 (09:02):
You know, dB will back me up on this, I'm sure,
and if not, then screw him. But no, damn sure.
Danill backed me up in that. When he played for Minnesota,
you could be like, well, you know, he's playing under
like a quarterback whisperer, and like it was the right circumstance.
Now that they're in first place and have a path
to the one seat and he's on yet another team,
you have to start saying Sam Darnold might not be
e lite, he's.

Not Josh Allen Mahomes top tier.

You're still hesitant to say the guy's done it for.

So I think we do need to put some respect

I don't know if wins and losses are how you
can really determine success because then you could say a
guy like Jimmy Garoppolo's like top tier as well, because
Jimmy g is a niner and you know you're true it.

That's how you do it. And he did it with
two different teams. But Donald is twenty six and six. Well,
Mike was wrong. Rich was right.

You got to keep him in that conversation of dudes
that really turned it around and how a different setting

The funny thing with Donald is this, and this is
why I side with Rich is the interceptions have always
been there. It's now you just got to deal with it.
Like I listen, I got married later in life. I
lived a life as a single person for a long time.
So did my wife.

Not everyone likes helmets, Dan, So they are.

Just things that and it's not a matter of like
my wife does a lot of interceptions, but that's who
they are.

That's that's who Sam Donald is.

Right, not gonna get the overtime Sam Donald that you
got if he's not throwing those interceptions, and I've said
to you guys before, I.

It is something that could derail the Seahawks season, like
a Sam Donald interception. He leads the NFL in turnovers.
He does with interceptions and fumbles combined. Sam Donald leads
the NFL. But for what they're paying him and what
he did last night, the Seahawks think that it was
worth it. And you just hope if you're a Seahawks
fan like me, that you can get more of the overtime,

second half or fourth quarter Sam Donald than maybe you
did in the earlier game.

Speaker 1 (11:34):
And Dan, that's a great point in relationships with players
on a team.

You like coworkers.

Speaker 1 (11:41):
Someone could be great, but there's always something where you're like, well,
if they didn't do this, like if my wife wasn't
so damn messy, or you know, like I saw I
was saying, you know, like Kvina I was saying last night.
Too many times Sam Donald put them in a bad
position because he took a sack when it's like, dude,
just get rid of the ball away, do something, and
then all of a sudden you got a second and

sixteen or something, and it's like get rid of the ball,
and there were a couple of funny plays. I want
to just point out last night, and I'm sure you
Danny g Danbayer, everyone remembers. It was like a third
and sixteen. The crowd immediately started booing when they ran
the ball, but then it was a run for seventeen
yards and a first down to just Kenneth Water. Yeah,

Kenneth Walker bust open for seventeen on a third and
sixteen drup play, and the crowd went from booing to cheering.
I think without even taking the breath.

You're exactly right.

Speaker 2 (12:34):
You know what's wild about talking to your buddies while
the game is on is your friends may have some
action on the game. I'm pretty sure my brother had
some money on the game last night. And I'm talking like, yo, dude,
you watching his game, but I'm watching ahead of him,
like I don't know.

Speaker 3 (12:48):
Like his TV, his cable or whatever.

Speaker 2 (12:51):
He's watching on his Prime I guess is behind mine.
So I'm like, oh, so when that seventeen yard run
was happening, he's like, what's going on?

You wait?

Speaker 3 (13:01):
Did they score? Because he's behind me. So anyway, I was.

Speaker 2 (13:05):
Watching while talking to my brother and texting everybody it
was a great Thursday night football game and rich and
you know, congrats to your forty nine ers, like you said,
they control their destiny.

Speaker 1 (13:15):
Yeah, it's it's interesting. We're gonna go over that stuff
later as we get into week sixteen. Now, the two
point conversion at the end, and I'm I don't blame you,
and I'm not throwing you into the bus, but Cavino
and a bunch of my buddies were hit me up.

Speaker 4 (13:29):
Like should they have gone for two at first?

Speaker 2 (13:33):
And maybe they said it on the broadcast, but again
I was talking to people in texting and I'm just watching.

Speaker 3 (13:38):
I didn't hear what they said. I'm like, man, this
is a bold move.

But you know what they did point it out. I'm
sure al Michael's and Herbstreet pointed out. But even going
into the game, if you follow the NFC West like
I do as a Niners fan, you knew that if
the game ended in a tie, ay, it did the
forty nine Ers no favors, and b it did the
Seahawks no face because if it was a tie, then

the head to head between the Seahawks and the Rams
is Rams are one to Ozho to one and the
Seahawks would be oh one and one. So if the
Seahawks let that game end at a tie, it's almost
the same as the loss, because unless they win the division,
they're a wildcard. Right, So you go for the win
on the two point conversion in overtime because if you
miss it, you're in the same position you are, playoff

seating wise for the most part, right, I mean, a
tie is sort of like an L there, So it's ballsy,
but not really because it's it's it's like going for
the win or not. It's because a tie in that
case is sort of like an L.

Speaker 5 (14:38):
Yeah, and the other there are a couple of things
that you're one hundred percent right. And there were three
minutes still left on the clock in overtime, but you
know that the Rams would have worked the clock, so
the Seahawks weren't going to touch the ball again, So
that's the decision. What's also interesting is because of all
the multiple two point conversions that the Seahawks had earlier
in the game to get back in it, maybe the

one that they had here in overtime wasn't their best
play because they had already used a couple that they
felt were better plays.

Speaker 1 (15:06):
They already used their patented backwards pass off the defender's
helmet by the goal line.

Speaker 3 (15:11):
It you know that picked up after the whislom they
already used.

Speaker 4 (15:15):
That trick one and dB.

Speaker 1 (15:16):
Interestingly enough, I'm sure you did the same as a
Seahawks fan. You looked ahead and said, well, if there
is a tie, well, there are a couple games left,
and then you see that the Rams play the Falcons
and the Cardinals and those are likely to wins. So
if you want to win the division and you're the
Seattle Seahawks, there's no doubt you go for that overtime
two point convert.

Speaker 3 (15:35):
They're going to make the playoffs. There are ninety nine
percent chance.

Speaker 5 (15:38):
Regardless early of the outcome last night, so they're very
likely in so you have to go. If you would
have went for a tie, that takes winning out of
it and only brings the other stuff into the equation.
Here's my quick question now that we've seen it this season,
and it goes back to the Super Bowl with the
Riches Niners against the Chiefs and the kicking or taking
the ball at what point, now, if you have the

football first, do you go for two. So the Rams
score and kick the extra point. Right with the only
the ten minute quarters, we're seeing like there's not a
lot of time to go in and maybe not every
team would would go for two, but the Rams were
at a disadvantage because they scored first and then just
kick the extra point. At what point do you say,

(16:21):
you know what, maybe it's just worth us going for
two in this scenario and making it an eight point
game and hoping we just stop the team on four
downs or stop at two point play then just kicking
the extra point. Because it was quite an advantage for
the Seahawks to be able to know that they could
go for two and win the game. Yeah, you know
what I mean, Like to go first. It would be
very risky to say, well, we're only taking a six

point lead, but if teams are going to do what
Seattle did, maybe it's not as much of a.

Speaker 8 (16:46):
Risk as we would think. Or dB, can we just
go to fifteen minute overtime?

Speaker 3 (16:50):
Yeah, that would help too.

Yeah, but then rich would Thursday night ten o'clock softball,
you know, all right, like several times now where it's
a possession, a long possession, seven to seven, and then
the team that scores second has to go for the
two point conversion because there's not enough time left on
the clock.

So the ten minute thing is not working out in
my opinion.

Yeah, and I know you guys are well, I know

a few other observations last night's game, like the back
and forth with Nicoua and Cooper Cup. That one catch
into fourth quarter that Cooper Cup made insane, But that
friendly back and forth and that competition was so cool
to see. And did anyone notice, Yeah, I mentioned you know,

I'm standing up watching to see if they get this.
They panned the camera over to Stafford and Nicoua and
some people on the sidelines and they're like paling around,
laughing and smiling. Meanwhile, I'm like, yo, dude, how were
they not like obviously they're in the moment and they
can't lose. No, no, no, that's really my point. It's
really crazy to see how loose and how much fun

they really are having because I was kind of nervous
watching I think in a moment playing slap pass on
the sideline, they're thinking, we're doing everything we can, and
the Kua had two hundred plus receiving yards a Stafford.
Stafford sort of solidified the MVP, if he asked me,
even though they lost, they.

Put on a show.

They're thinking, you know, we're doing everything we can. Let's
play loose, let's keep it fun.

It just was a wild as you like to say.

Yeah, you know, to know how nervous and in the
zone we were watching it, and they were there just

I couldn't believe Stafford was that loose.

You see when the Stafford got hit hard once they
panted Jimmy g and he's on the sideline, it looks
like he's looks like he's modeling for NFL shop, Like.

thoughts on the game. Last night eight seven, seven ninety
nine on Fox felt like, uh.

Like I can't say Game of the year. You're right,

hell of a game last night.

Can we agree it was the best fourth quarter in
overtime of the season.

about best games, and like you said, best quarters, I
think you know what's at stake is also a big
part of that.

And this was for the one seed in the NFC.
So if you're gonna.

Say game of the year, well the hell yet, because
I think you saw the one seed fall into the
lap of the Seahawks after they were ballsy and went
for that two point conversion. And I think looking forward,
and I'm not just saying this because I'm a Niners fan.
For the good of football, for the good of the viewer,
for the good of the game. If the Niners they
should beat Indianapolis with old Man rivers on Monday night,

they should if they then go on to beat the
Bears in the Bay in San Francisco, that Week eighteen
matchup Seahawks Niners would be for the one seed. The
winner gets a buy and home field, and the loser
