Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to The Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
It's your pals, Cavino and Rich, your best buddies. Great
to see you. What's up man, Good morning in for
the Great Dan Patrick, The Dan Patrick Patrick. Yes, today
the day? By the way, uh oh, if it is,
I'm not ready for it.
Speaker 3 (00:19):
What is it?
Speaker 2 (00:20):
You don't know what's the day? Today's when's do you
think today's day we find out about Brenda ayuk? Oh?
Is today the day? You know what it is? You know?
People say I can tell you this, People say I'm
guilty of Nobody cares more than you. Maybe John Lynch
or Kyle Shanthan. But but after them, I think maybe
Bruck Party.
Speaker 3 (00:39):
Jerry Rice has been tweeting about it.
Speaker 2 (00:40):
I was gonna say, Jerry Rice is tweet Danny g
you read my freaking mind. That's why you're the best produce.
Regardless of what happens. I'm eating Panda Express later on,
so I really don't care. I don't care. It's not
getting away in my fortune.
Speaker 1 (00:51):
You read my.
Speaker 2 (00:52):
Mind again, which is why you're the best of the game.
Jerry Rice to me is alluding to him knowing that
it's good news, like like would you tell your kid
are we getting ice cream later? If you weren't really
getting ice cream later? I mean my dad used to
do that to me. But it's a whole other story.
Speaker 4 (01:12):
Yeah, take you to toys hours. Oh it's closed, side,
Please take me to toys. I used to beg my dad.
I mean like holding onto his shoelaces. Dad, please take
me to toys r us. Yeah, I pick you late.
Speaker 2 (01:25):
You know what, dude, he would take me later because
he knew it was closed.
Speaker 3 (01:29):
You know what.
Speaker 2 (01:29):
You know what trick my dad would do was the
I'm gonna shuffle around looking for money when the ice
cream man's on the block. And then by the time
my dad's like, oh I found a couple of bucks,
the ice cream man was like five blocks away. My
point is Danny's right, Danny, can you find the Jerry
Rice tweet or the Instagram? I think it was just
something as simple as like, so today Brandon Ayuk makes
(01:51):
a decision, what do you think at Brandon Ayuk? And
to me, that alludes to he's staying and it just
shows the dynamic of what a free agent and or
negotiating athlete does. In twenty twenty four, You're pulling out
all the stops. You might even temporarily insult your team,
the fan base, your teammates. Yeah, you gotta unfollow your team.
(02:13):
It's it's almost like harding that with Fox come contract time. Yeah,
I'm unfollowing. I'm gonna unfollow uh. Rob Parker at Fox
Sports Radio unfollow Damn Patrickfoo all unfollowing. I I think
that we're seeing a world now where it's not even like, man,
maybe I'll move on. Your hardball tactic is to make
(02:36):
it seem like, yo, I'm done with you. It's like
a voltil relationship. You ever have one of those girls
you date where it's like we're done, we're breaking up,
and you're like, oh right, and then two weeks later,
I love you. I feel like you've never got after ball.
You're walking on eggshells. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (02:49):
I don't like that.
Speaker 2 (02:50):
It's like a it's a power trip.
Speaker 3 (02:52):
Really Yeah.
Speaker 5 (02:53):
So yesterday Rice tweeted out a photo of Ayuk and
he says, I guess we will all find out tomorrow,
goats will he stay or leave at Brandon Ayuk?
Speaker 2 (03:03):
So if the best wide receiver not only of all time,
but on the forty nine ers, the guy when you
go to forty nine ers games, you see him. He's
got his big necklace out with the forty nine ers helmet.
Jerry Rice is still very involved with the San Francisco
forty nine ers. So when he tweets and puts something
like that on Instagram and Facebook, there's not a vibe
(03:23):
for you. That's like, why would he put that up
there if he doesn't think he's staying Ayuk wants to
stay in San Francisco. I mean, I think he's waiting.
You want to play for a team that's contending and
still get paid, ors some whack ass team and get paid.
He did say the right thing, and there was rumors
that he was saying, I think I could win a
(03:43):
super Bowl with Tomlin and what they're creating in Pittsburgh.
But when you got what you got going on on
a team with Deebo Kiddle McCaffrey, Ayuk knows that he
could very well win a Super Bowl where he is
right now the forty nine ers. Why this hasn't happened sooner?
If people are wondering what's the what's doing? There's no
(04:05):
urgency because the forty nine ers, if they're not getting
what they want out of this, they could keep waiting.
You know what I'm saying, because Ayuk either plays if
he sits out, then another team might say, all right,
well we'll offer you more. Obviously, we keep hearing forty
nine Ers or Steelers. Is there another team that could
come out of the woodwork, like what? Well, look at Ayuk.
(04:25):
He said no thanks to a pretty substantial offer from
the Patriots because he really doesn't want to play for
the Patriots. He wants to stay in the Bay Area.
I think he just wants the Niners to last. I
read from guys like Schefter and all those dudes was
that there were a couple talking points in the contract
that if they got it right, he prefers to stay
(04:47):
in San Francisco.
Speaker 3 (04:48):
Yeah, the report was one last big hurdle in the contract.
Speaker 2 (04:52):
And you know what it is.
Speaker 3 (04:52):
I got.
Speaker 2 (04:53):
I got a theory. Oh, a Snowcombe machine by his locker.
He wants, Oh, that's the second fish tank. He wants
a snow cone snoopy. It says in parentheses, snoopy snoke
one machinea. Yeah, and he wants a little uh, he
wants a little claws in there that will allow him
to play flag football. Come twenty twenty eight. Do you
know what that's the thing. We're gonna get to that later,
(05:14):
flag football because they have to work this out. Who's
gonna be able to play in the Olympics in twenty
twenty eight. Now I have a question again, Rich Davis,
the guy that's always guilty of making dumb relationship analogies,
But have you ever felt like you were the Pittsburgh Steelers?
Have you ever felt like you were the pawn in
some girl getting back at her ex or something? Yeah,
(05:34):
like I done. If you're Mike tom Onin and the
Steelers as a party, that's like, are you playing me
a little bit?
Speaker 3 (05:40):
Are you?
Speaker 2 (05:40):
Are you toying with it with my uh, with my
heart and what's in my pantalonis what's doing? Yeah, I'm
gonna get back with the forty nine ers, dah. It's
sort of it's sort of the vibe I'm telling you,
I feel like by the end of the day, and
what do I know? Yeah, Hey, I'm like Paulie Walnuts
Ay tom Aytom, But what do I know? I feel
(06:02):
like he is using the Steelers as a negotiating power,
bargaining power, like, hey, I have this option, but I'm
gonna stick with the forty nine ers. Did you see
what Amari Cooper said? By the way, Danny g Because
there was rumors for a minute the Browns were one
of those trade cans that.
Speaker 3 (06:16):
He was attached to, that potential trade, And.
Speaker 2 (06:19):
If I'm a Cleveland Browns fan, I get it. But
I'm like, oh Amari Cooper put out there, Yeah, like,
I like, I wouldn't hate that, dude, Cooper want to
play on that Niners team?
Speaker 3 (06:31):
Run yeah or in that offense?
Speaker 2 (06:33):
Right, organization has way more of the leverage, which is
why and I U has to play all those baby
games of unfollowing and and playing his side because moving stinks,
Moving to a different team stinks, Winning over the new
fans stinks. The pressure of proving yourself all over against stinks.
You know, the whole thing, the whole process things. You
(06:54):
might be on a losing team. Now, forty nine Ers
have all the advantage in the world, and it gives
him all the reason to stay because he's not free agent.
He's a guy that wants to be traded. Now, the
last couple of years, we've seen superstars hold out until
the very last minute. In fact, damn last year, we
saw Chris Jones on the Chiefs start the season not
(07:16):
playing in what happened? The Lions beat the Chiefs in
Game one and the Chiefs are like, oh, snap, we
gotta let's let's get this done. I don't think I'll
get to that with Ayuk. But again, there's no urgency.
Every day you wake up and you're like, he'll, dude,
what's what's doing. I'll tell you what's doing. The Niners
don't need to hurry this up. The Niners could very
(07:37):
well take their time. There's still weeks and weeks still
the season, and are you not going anywhere unless the
forty nine ers are the ones that say you're going somewhere.
He either sits plays with the Niners or the Niners
agree that, yeah, we're cool, we will trade you for this.
So yeah, power San Francisco. And when you see him
(07:59):
Bro Hugg and John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan, it does
make you think. You know, he wants to be there,
but he also wants to get all the details he
thinks he deserves in his contracts. So and good for him,
you know what, you know, we we support that. But
every move the forty nine ers make much like every
other team. Could you know? It all revolves around what
(08:20):
will the what will the cap look like when we
do pay our quarterback because you can't just roll out
the h the Brinch truck for Brandon Ayuk when you
know next year you have to pay Brock Purty.
Speaker 3 (08:33):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (08:33):
So it's it's a balancing that's a question mark in
itself worth we we shall see. But back to Aaron Rodgers.
I just saw the headline ayuk and I'm thinking, is
it today? Rich's algorithm a yuk a yuk every every
swipe It's like politics. I use but cheeks, politics, breakd answers, Hey,
alf there's alf Hey alf is here? Okay, Brandon Ayuk,
(08:55):
the whole Colgan? Hey, what's up? Hul Colgan, Brandon Ayuk,
Brandon Nyuk. Rich's TikTok feed. So back to football, Back
to Aaron Rodgers again. I hate being that gossipy sort
of show, but we're so good at it. Look it's
not us bringing this stuff up. Like we said, this
(09:16):
is a national story. Now it's Aaron Rodgers. If it bleeds,
it leads, it's a juicy story. I remember back then
I felt like, well that's interesting. Two worlds collide raval nations.
Because Olivia Munn was very Hollywood and the it girl
at the time, and Aaron Rodgers was a football player.
(09:37):
I was like, Wow, Aaron Rodgers dipping into the world
the Hollywood right now. Yeah, she was coming off of
her like hosting g four Days and all of a sudden,
she's a movie star doing movies. I thought it was
a cool but interesting matchup. It stood out. And now
the story is she's what got in between him and
(09:59):
his fe We heard the stories for years. What's going
on Aaron Rodgers man, he doesn't even talk to his
family anymore. And by the way, did we make that
public we meeting the media? No, his brother was talking
about it, right, Jordan Rodgers and the family made it
clear that they years had gone by where they did
not talk to Aaron Rodgers. Yeah, that was a story.
(10:21):
So it's not like people are investigating. Hey, from what
I heard, No, they were talking about this. Aaron Rodgers
hadn't talked to his family anymore. And it was around
the time he was dating actress Olivia Munt, who, to
be fair, had been on our show a bunch of
times and always seemed like a sweet person. Yeah, you know,
always nice to us. So the story always felt like
(10:48):
it had something to do with her. Now, according to
the parents, because they went public with it, it absolutely
did well. Aaron Rodgers' parents said Olivia Munn was the
reason for the schism great Word between the quarterback and
the rail song, claiming she caused the divide between the
(11:09):
then Packers star after a bad game in twenty fourteen.
Here here's what Ed and Darla Rogers said, Darla to
old people names. These are my parents, Ed and Darla.
Weren't they both little rascals? Out of the darkness. The
Mystery of Aaron Rodgers is a new book that's coming out,
and the couple his parents said they visited Aaron Rodgers
(11:31):
in Green Bay before the Packers Bills game back in
twenty fourteen. They thought everything was fine. Aaron Laiden egg
that game. It was not a great game for Aaron Rodgers.
After the game, apparently they got a call from Olivia
Munn what saying, Yeah, Aaron doesn't want you around anymore. Hi,
(11:53):
this is Aaron's new girlfriend, Olivia, And then Ed said
you haven't been on the scene. You're just his girlfriend.
Where's parents? What in the hell, Darla, who is she
to tell us who and what we can do with
our son Aaron. So they show up at Aaron Rodgers'
game the next week and he doesn't see his parents.
(12:13):
They go to the game, but they don't see Aaron,
which began the nine years, almost a decade of not
talking to their son. And by the way, that could
be Olivia just having her new man's back, right, Aaron
was like, I just do my parents or I don't know.
Maybe she was doing what she thought was right at
the time. For all we know, she's not overstepping, but
(12:34):
it seems according to the story that she was overstepping.
There's layers to the story that. Yeah, for all we know,
Aaron's like, I just don't know how to tell him. Well,
I'll tell him for you, Aaron, because I love you. Like,
we don't know the intricacies here, we just know what
is being told in the book Out of the Darkness. Remember,
there's two sides to every story three three the true Yeah,
(12:54):
their side, the parents, Olivia's Sidevia's side, and you got
the truth right, So from her perspective and the parents perspective,
you're gonna get two different stories. From the parent's perspective,
our son's new girlfriend tore the family apart and she
was overstepping. And meanwhile, from their perspective, if you remember
Olivia Munn, very Hollywood TV host actress, especially at the time,
(13:17):
like I said, she was the hot thing going. She
was going on talk shows and radio shows and podcasts
talking about their sex life, talking about things behind closed doors. Meanwhile,
that was not vibing with Ed and Darla. Darla, the mom,
apparently very religious, didn't even like the fact Lord, Dad,
(13:38):
good lord. Did you hear what she said?
Speaker 1 (13:40):
Now, wouldn't she say?
Speaker 3 (13:41):
Dorla?
Speaker 2 (13:42):
They're talking about familiar relations on television And apparently, according
to Darla Rogers, she didn't even like the idea of
premarital sex and was taken aback by Aaron sharing hotel
rooms with women. So you got these super conservative parents,
Hollywood friend who's very open, and Aaron Rodgers in the middle.
So I just thought it was an interesting story and
(14:04):
they listened. There's gonna be a book, So clearly there's
interest there. But Aaron Rodgers, a lot of people think
he loves being in the headline. Some people think he
doesn't have but about this, that's gotta be touchy with
the X and especially Olivia is a new mom. She's
with comedian John Mulaney. Now he's moved on. That's ancient
history man, and people talking about your love life from
(14:24):
ten years ago? Wow, so you know your thoughts on this?
A woman tearing the family apart? Is it all the
family here the girlfriend? Is it? Probably both parties? Have
you ever had? It's wrong to put the blame on
one side?
Speaker 1 (14:38):

Speaker 2 (15:32):
Covino and Rich live in mer City's been studios in
for the Great Dan Patrick, The Dan Patrick Patrick Day two,
Joel playing some old school It takes two Covino and Rich,
Danny g is here. Thank you for hanging out with us,
(15:53):
and we're getting to your phone calls now eight seven
seven ninety nine on Fox, Rich is tying Mike mc
daniels and to U into a marriage analogy. Did he
choose the wrong woman? Did he choose the wrong quarterback?
Did he make a mistake? You pulled the Griffin Griffith, Oh,
I said McDaniels. McDaniel. I always have to think about
(16:13):
Griffin Griffith the same way. It's like, is it Peter
Griffith Griffin?
Speaker 3 (16:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (16:17):
And you guys gotta remember Josh McDaniels with an ash
and Mike McDaniel, No, no s at the end.
Speaker 2 (16:24):
Y, I'm not even joking you before I say Mike
McDaniel every time for a split second, I say in
my head Josh McDaniels because I know he's the opposite. Honestly,
It's like, is it Kathy Griffin or Griffith Griffith. Yeah,
Kathy Griffith. No, it's Peter Griffin, Blake Griffith grif No,
it's Blake Griffin, Blake Griffin.
Speaker 5 (16:45):
Well, you and you want to talk about somebody who
chose the wrong marriage partner. Josh McDaniel's GM at the time,
Dave Ziggler wanted to trade up, had to trade in
place to go up to number two to take CJ. Stroud,
who overruled it Josh McDaniels Ah instead spent all that
money on Jimmy Garoppola.
Speaker 2 (17:05):
I think it's too early, man. The whole story's not
written yet, and I think it's unfair. You know, did
Don Shula marry the wrong quarterback? I would say, no,
what because they never won? You know what I mean?
Like you're talking greats here. I'm not saying Tua's Dan Marino,
but I'm saying it's too early to say. And if
you're that great of a coach, you make something out
of this dude, and you can't put it all on
(17:27):
he married the wrong guy. Maybe this quarterback married the
wrong coach. Also, he's saying it goes two ways.
Speaker 5 (17:33):
What city and situation each quarterback is in rich the
chemistry how much control? Like with a powers chart, if
you take a coach and a quarterback, maybe that coach
needs x amount of power in the relationship or decision making,
and you don't know if that coach would work well
with another quarterback just because he's a star in another city.
Speaker 2 (17:52):
You're absolutely right, Like that's the big Brock Party argument, right,
like he works with Shanahan. Well, yeah, Rock Party was
playing under you know McCarthy in Dallas. Would Brock Party
be the Brock Party? We know, I don't know, but
you got a question. Did Mike McDaniel make the right decision?
We'll see this year because you know, they were a
team that I'm pretty sure the Dolphins were three games
(18:15):
up in that division and ended up becoming a wild card.
Speaker 5 (18:20):
They got hit with a lot of injuries they got.
How would you apply to the Jim Kelly, I.
Speaker 2 (18:25):
Mean Jim Kelly and Levy with you know, they just
they fell short four times just playing better teams. I'm
saying when you look at TUA and Mike McDaniel, I
think it's the problem with with the expectations in the
NFL it's like super bowler bus, a super bowler bust mentality.
You're not letting players in chemistry with coaches and quarterbacks
(18:46):
time to develop, you know. It's that uh, it's that
old adage of the guy's a loser until the band
makes it. Hey if and when too it makes it. Yeah,
you don't know, the story's not over. Yeah, it's too premature.
That's just the mindset we have now because you're like, oh,
he's terrible, he's over getting at it. I mean, I mean,
(19:08):
hey man, what is how old is he? It's an
interesting like Doug Peterson now could say, yeah, if I
can't get anything done, I have Trevor Lawrence, which at
one point was considered a generational guy, so you can
was twenty six. You could look at certain combos of head, coach,
quarterback and you could say to yourself, did they partner
up with the right person. I'll pay you a compliment, dude.
We've been doing this show for almost twenty years between
(19:29):
Serious X and ESPN now here at Fox Sports. Like
you and I compliment each other as co hosts. If
you had some other co hosts might have fell flat
after like two years. You need that, right, without Rich,
you need that right. Chemis was to compliment to me.
He just said if I had another right, I'm gonna
compliment you, if you had another co.
Speaker 5 (19:50):
Host, because again because again Rich Cavino can ride with you.
You guys balance each other out. There's a good chance, though,
that you could have got paired up with somebody where
there was a power struggle that happens with a lot
of duos and teams on the radio, where they're fighting
over ideas and creativity and all that. What's kept your
longevity going.
Speaker 2 (20:10):
Yeah, honestly the fact that we have the same silence,
side balance, and we have the same goals, and honestly
we agree that neither one of us ever makes more
money than the other, like we we do our contract together.
I get it. You're right, there's a lot of radio
or TV duos that fall apart, and you could compare
that the balance. But we already said there are nine
(20:31):
quarterbacks in the AFC that you would take over to.
So Mike McDaniel better see something that maybe we all
don't see. Maybe he's I think he's this grand guru
of the NFL, this this wise coach, and I'm sure
he made a pretty good decision that suits him. I mean,
so by by questioning this, you're really questioning his decision making.
(20:51):
And isn't that what coaching is all about? Who as
a winner? Alabama guy, Mike McDaniel came from the Kyle
Shanahan school. So you know what, I'm not talking at
it both sides of my mouth. I'm just saying, perhaps you'relating.
I'm just not buying itating saying it's you can't put
it all on Tua. Maybe Mike McDaniel really believes that
Tua is the guy to orchestrate the system he has
(21:14):
with Waddle and Tyreek Kill and all that, and he's
saying he's the guy. Because if we just said, well,
there's nine quarterbacks just alone in the AFC, Rather have
we not seen ready, just for the sake of argument,
have we not seen coaches do a hell of a
lot more with a lot less. Didn't Nick Foles just retire?
Would you take Nick Foles or Tua? On paper? NFC
(21:37):
is a little more scarcer quarterbacks. So that was a
little leading because in the NFC East, I would take
Tua over that I want to take him over Dak,
but I would you take him over Jadon's heart. Can't
say Mike McDaniel made a mistake. Hey, maybe maybe Tua
is thinking I made a mistake with McDaniel. That's my point.
(21:59):
Like we've seen coaches do more with less, and the
guy's twenty six and for all we know they will
find this magic together. To say it's a mistake, it's
just the way of thinking that we have today. Whereas
grand opening grand clothes, you know, I let it develop
a believe it or not. Other than my forty nine ers,
I don't root against the Dolphins. I have a bunch
(22:19):
of friends that are Dolphins fans, and I like Mike McDaniel.
I don't dislike to or so, you know, as far
as AFC teams, I don't mind the Dolphins doing good.
I think when the Dolphins are good, it's good for football.
But if you go to the NFC, now you could
just keep piling on the quarterbacks that you would take
over to it. And I'm not trying to be rude,
but like go to the North, would you take Jordan
Love Yes? Would you take Jared Goff? Yes? Then again
(22:43):
puts your question, well, how much time do you give it?
And time is a flying would you take Caleb Williams, Yes,
this is his fifth year. If you wouldn't take well
jj JJ McCarthy's out. Now you want to you want
to take h Well am I he leaves leaves forty nine,
so Fred his name, oh, Sam Darnell and Donald, I
(23:04):
mean the Viking starter, Viking star. You want to take?
You want to take Baker, make Kirk Cousins coming off
an injury.
Speaker 3 (23:12):
So I think I just feel like Rich with the Dolphins.
Speaker 2 (23:15):
To his definition of the middle of the pack is
what I'm saying.
Speaker 5 (23:18):
But their imbalance right now, you could argue is the
salary cap reasons they had to let go of some
of their main.
Speaker 2 (23:24):
Defensive pieces, some of their stars, or yeah.
Speaker 5 (23:28):
Christian Wilkins, Raiders, Robert Hunt, Panthers, Xavian Howard. They lost
a free agent. He's a free agent out right now.
I think Jerome Baker free agent. So the Dolphins right now,
the imbalance is their defense. They're they're loaded on offense.
They have weapons, all.
Speaker 2 (23:43):
Right, Listen, I know we have conversations every day the
same like Dan or Colin or Rob Parker or Doug
And by the way, you're saying about the balance, Look,
Tua took a lot of big hits. Blame the line.
I'm just gonna say one thing and we'll move on.
We'll take some feedback. I'm not saying and uh, I'm
breaking at the receipts. But hold on, I'm actually I
(24:03):
know where to find the receipt Let me go to
my wife's car. Let me go to your girlfriend's car.
There's somebody ever sets some water bottles everywhere. If you
go to my kitchen counter right now, you'll find eight
hundred receipts. Here's one that my my girlfriend's collecting for
some reason, next to her box collection.
Speaker 3 (24:17):
Rich, what makes that what makes that marriage work? In
your in your.
Speaker 2 (24:20):
Winning, that's it. Here's what in Rich's analogy. And I'm
not saying he's wrong. It's great speculation right in his analogy.
What makes his relationship work is if Tua was the
trophy wife, if he was such a superstar that he
won and just made McDaniel look good, you know, the
team effort instead of accountability on both ends. You it's like,
(24:42):
uh no, no, I'm gonna sound vain. I was gonna say,
it's like, it's like marrying someone and then you fast forward.
It's like Yo, do they still look good? Are they successful?
Are they a good wife or husband? Like you know,
it's like you got to see how this works out
long term. I'm gonna say one thing and we'll move on.
I don't need to, don't. I'm not trying to trash
the Dolphins. I don't hate on him, but I do believe.
A week ago, on our afternoon show here on Fox
(25:05):
Sports Ready, we talked about what NFL teams that made
the playoffs this year won't make it this year, teams
that made it last year that won't make it this year.
And the first team you, Steve Cavino said, was the
Miami Dolphins. Yeah, I said, too many questions marks you said,
you said the Jets will take a step forward. Buffalo
still got Josh Allen. Someone has said the Dods. Yeah,
(25:28):
there's a major turnover, and who makes it? Who does it?
In order for someone to step up, someone's gonna have
to step down. Yeah. So I'm gonna make the playoffs
a couple of years in a row. Then then you're
on the hot seat. But I'm not saying that all
the blame goes to the quarterback, you know what I mean.
I'm saying that the coach has to take accountability. But
(25:49):
like Danny said, you lost a lot of key defensive guys.
Why because you didn't have the money? Because you paid to.
Speaker 5 (25:55):
And by the way, Jerome Baker, I thought it was Seattle.
He wound up signing with the Seahawks.
Speaker 2 (26:00):
Okay, okay, let's go to Jason in Alabama. We'll wrap
it up with him and then we'll talk some flag football.
And I do want to talk about Vince Vaughan today.
What's going on, man, Jason?
Speaker 7 (26:09):
Hey, how you guys are doing. We're good, all right,
So I'll start right. I am a Dolphin fan, so
it could be a little biased, but there's a lot
of Tua hate over here. I mean, maybe a little
too much for me.
Speaker 2 (26:22):
Let's try it, man, you know, honestly convinced me. Go ahead,
let's hear it.
Speaker 7 (26:25):
The guy led the league in passing yards. Okay, And
we're gonna take Trevor Lawrence who lost the last five
games of the season, and Baker Mayfield, who I mean,
he's a bigger, a decent quarterback. They didn't leave the
league in passing yards. I mean everyone, you could take
some guys. I'll take maybe Burrow I think might be
a better than Tua. I'll say that as a Dolphins fan,
(26:46):
I think Burrow might be better than two do it. I mean,
obviously Mahome is going to be better. I think Lamar
Jackson is better. And also I think another thing I
want to point out is that the Mike McDaniel offense
is it's even though it's true he's you know, he's
very smart than all that, but he's done a lot
of like he needs that type of guy to fit
the hit the bill. I guess you could say, and
even if maybe a different quarterback might be better than to
(27:08):
insurance talents, but to run the Mike McDaniel offense, I
think he felt he needed a guy who was very accurate.
Speaker 2 (27:14):
You know what, You're right, you can compare a guy.
You could compare it to Purdy and Kyle Shanahan, where
where Purdy is a really smart quarterback and he's accurate,
and that might fit Kyle shanahan system more than a
genuinely talented guy Rock Purdy might fit. You know, there's
your analogy.
Speaker 3 (27:30):
Sell. I think that guy was calling from the halls
of the Dolphins.
Speaker 2 (27:34):
Yeah, I agree, he was on the house phone. Jason
that was a I mean, aside from the quality of
your crappy phone, that was a great call. Man, I
appreciate it. No, thank you, buddy, Thank you, appreciate you.
Speaker 1 (27:44):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Dan
Patrick Show week days at nine am Eastern six am
Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 2 (27:54):
Hope you're enjoying the show. Is Caveno and Rich and
for Dan Patrick. Day two of the Dan Patrick Patrick
which means we'll be here tomorrow borrow and we throw
it back every Thursday, so we'll do a little old
school and fifty hits we reminisced with you. So join
us and get the weekend started early, because Thursday's the
new Friday. Now are you going back to the college days? Yeah? Man,
(28:16):
you skeped me. Do you remember that, Danny? Did you
do that as well? Schedule all your classes like heavy
early in the week that like Friday, you had nothing.
Speaker 3 (28:24):
My college was broadcasting.
Speaker 2 (28:26):
You were just like, yeah, no, broadcasting.
Speaker 3 (28:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (28:29):
I went to Stanislas State just for their broadcasting department
for an internship. But we went to Clas sixteen years old.
I was working at a commercial radio station, so school
of hard Knocks for me.
Speaker 2 (28:40):
Man, look at that speaking of Hard Knocks that you
caught up or.
Speaker 5 (28:42):
Now I am, But like Covino, it was a long
day yesterday because we had the whole day in front
of us after the TP show, so late last night
I turned on the second episode of Hard Knocks Chicago Bears,
and I fell asleep right towards the end of it.
Speaker 3 (28:56):
It was a good episode, but not enough to keep
me awake.
Speaker 2 (28:59):
Before we get to midweek, Major, Can I just make
one observation, please do I'm watching Hard Knocks last night,
and you know when you haven't been to church in
a long time and people start saying things like I
don't know the new saying I guess I haven't been
here in a while. You know that. I was talking
to someone just the other day about this. If you
(29:19):
grew up going to Catholic church, I think he was like,
peace be with you, and you would say and also
with you. You don't say that anymore. Yeah, Now it's like
may the force be with you or something. It's something yeah,
with you and also with us, all with right, And
then they do their thing and you're like, you're the
guy who doesn't know. Well, I had that sort of
feeling or maybe just an old guy moment yesterday. Cuz
(29:42):
what's his name? Uduza, right, Oduzay?
Speaker 3 (29:44):
Yeah, yeah, Romo Dunsay. He was the six overall selection.
Speaker 2 (29:48):
Yeah. Who was on the Giants hard Knocks? Yes, Rome,
oh Donsay.
Speaker 5 (29:53):
Oh, I'm sorry he went after six because the Giants
had the six pick, right, and he was one of
the receivers they had in their room on the preseason
hard knocks with the Giants, all three top wide receivers
were in the room.
Speaker 3 (30:04):
Remember, Yeah, the old.
Speaker 5 (30:05):
Coordinator for the Giants said, Man, I wish I could
sign all three of you.
Speaker 2 (30:09):
They highlight him and how great he is, right, how
great he's playing in the preseason. He's gonna be a weapon.
But then they cut to something that I hate. And
that's when they make these rookies do like the Talent Show,
and I'm like, get at you, CAF you not does
all like fun and camaraderie, just fun of camaraderie or
like making you feel like an idiot. Right, So he
gets up there and he starts rapping, and you hear
(30:32):
everyone chiming in with the words, and everybody knows the words,
and I felt like that guy at church who just
doesn't know what's going on, right, And it really was like, wow,
how do all these young dudes know the world. It's
not you, it's not your thing anymore. Yeah you know.
And it was like, I think it was a t
Paint song that he was rapping, right because I kind
of picked up on it. But they all knew it,
(30:55):
and they all knew when to chime in. They knew
all the good parts, and they knew like all when
to jump in together. And I'm like, man, they were
like the old guy.
Speaker 5 (31:02):
They were doing the backup vocals. It was cool, and
they gave him do you see Kayla Williams taped him
up at the end. They were a little impressed. He
was number fifteen overall.
Speaker 2 (31:14):
Man, I felt so old. How do they all know?
And I don't. When you're not twenty something anymore, and
you and you go back to the club, you'll know
you'll recognize songs if you stay in the musical, if
you if you keep your ear to current music, you'll
know most. But there will always be a song. I'll
make the rule. If you're post thirty, yeah, there'll always
be a few songs at a bar or club where
(31:34):
you're like, what's everybody say? You almost feel like you
were in a coma, like I knows everyone knows this
from me? What's going on? I noticed that yesterday. But
now it's time for Midweek Major Rich. We do it
every Wednesday on the Cavino and Rich Show two to
four on the West, five to seven on the East.
Again Midweek are the stories in the world of sports
and pop culture mid Week or major and now the
(31:57):
most famous person you gonta let him hit the intro
from real to.
Speaker 3 (32:01):
You got to queue the the open.
Speaker 2 (32:03):
To I swear of got anyth think we had it.
Speaker 1 (32:08):
Covino and Rich get you over the middle of the
week when mid Week Major that we throw sports and
pop culture headlines and topics at the fellas, and it's
like the kids.
Speaker 7 (32:21):
Say that we definitely.
Speaker 1 (32:25):
Seeing our scoring mid Week Major.
Speaker 3 (32:33):
You can't be like me. I'm a hyphen.
Speaker 2 (32:36):
No. Every week, like Trino said, you want to tell
you now we go over the biggest stories in the
world the sports and pop culture. I didn't think you
packed the intro and.
Speaker 5 (32:48):
You were talking about the big voice guy Bob Earlier,
Solvino was trying to give him the morning off.
Speaker 2 (32:52):
I didn't think Danny g packed it in his backpag.
Right there you have it, the horn section and everything.
Speaker 5 (32:58):
Yeah, we like to roll the big I love dice.
This is to see which host gets to have the
first take. So and now, no, no, you got to
roll first. You got a roll first.
Speaker 2 (33:08):
It's not my first time at the rodeo. Doesn't paying
attention a famous person?
Speaker 5 (33:12):
No, no, no, let's let before you do the intro there,
let's see which one of you is gonna go?
Speaker 2 (33:20):
Which ones I go first? All right, so now the
most famous person from rialto California besides Ronnie Lott and
JJ fadd You're host of Midweek Major, the great super
producer Danny J.
Speaker 3 (33:35):
No, please please stop it some morn.
Speaker 5 (33:38):
All right, guys, Red's pitcher Hunter Green puked on the
mound again. Remember talking about this on the Afternoon Slash
Early Evening show.
Speaker 3 (33:46):
Well he's back at it.
Speaker 5 (33:47):
Twenty five year old Green was on the mound in
the fifth inning against the Cards. The young star turned
his back to the mound and put his glove up
to his face and vomited through the webbing, which was
caught at the perfect moment on the live broadcast. The
umpires came out to see what was going on. Gamer zoomed.
Hunter wound up pitching seven great innings. He only gave
up one run on four hits, struck out eight, and
(34:09):
brought a season era down to two eight three. Guys
puking as a game day ritual, mid week or major.
Speaker 2 (34:17):
I'm going week, super weak, get it together. I grew
up as a fight fan. Marvelous Marvin Hackler always said,
never let him see a sweat, which means like, be
the man, look the part, and stay cool. What did
that kid in your middle school yearbook say stay cool?
Speaker 3 (34:38):
I thought you were gonna say, kit.
Speaker 2 (34:40):
Have a great summer. There's nothing cool about puking on
the mound. It looks like you have a nervous belly.
It looks like you're not in control. I know, as
Era says otherwise, but that's not a good look when
you got a nervous stomach on a big stage. Well
marves Marvivin Hackler never said never let him see a puke.
He said, sweat if you can, is worse the sweating.
(35:01):
That was the point. I thought, I have no problem
with it, other than the fact that like, just you know,
let it loose on the turf for grass or dirt,
like through the webbing your glove. Oh disgusting that would
you clean that glove? Do you get a new glove in?
I think nerves are just way high, and I look,
I'll never understand how high they could be in those
pressure situations. As we discussed it. Yeah, it's a high
(35:24):
pressure scenario. But that's what you got to be built for.
Are you built for this or not? Because if I'm
behind this guy, I'm like, oh no, this guy's nervous,
all right.
Speaker 5 (35:33):
Mandalay Bays new adults only golf club is now set
to open on November eighth. The new Swingers Las Vegas
venues expected to be the largest for their global entertainment brand.
It's going to be their flagship location, forty thousand square
Feet's gonna include four golf courses, multiple bars and eateries,
minuture golf at its best, a carnival arcade concept, it says,
(35:55):
a new English countryside of state design, three stories tall,
thirtyles fellows, miniature golf on steroids, midweek or major.
Speaker 2 (36:04):
I think this is major for multiple reasons. It gives guys,
It gives people, families, friends, more fun, to have in Vegas, right,
you got this sphere recently, now this, but it also
gives men who go there to party great alibis to
their women. They're like, I know you're at Spearmint Rhino. No, honey,
(36:25):
I'm playing our carnival golf of my pals at Mandolay
Bay where you got it yours? What is that? Yes, swingers? No, no, no, no,
it has nothing to do with the crazy horse. No,
it's not a nooti bar. It's a golf Look, it
looks like a lot of fun and just more fun
they look. They're trying to remarket Vegas as more family friendly.
They even changed the slogan it's not what happens in
(36:46):
Vegas stays in Vegas. Is what happens in Vegas only
happens here, only happens in Vegas. And now they got
this crazy mini golf course. Look, it just gives you
something else to do. I'm all for it. Yes, I'm
gonna say. I'm gonna say it's man because it's just
a mini golf course. But no, it's not. Who doesn't
like mini golf?
Speaker 1 (37:05):
This is next level?
Speaker 2 (37:07):
How many holes?
Speaker 3 (37:09):
Thirty six holes?
Speaker 2 (37:10):
Is a ferris wheel?
Speaker 1 (37:11):
Not a little windmill.
Speaker 2 (37:12):
So I will say this though, never let you know
your date or your kid win a mini golf. That's
rule number one. Yeah, and I have seen that top golf,
which I do love. Top golf is in a little
bit of financial trouble because if the novelty wears off,
then you just got this huge ass property that could
only be used. You know, think about it. What every
(37:34):
top golf looks exactly the same. I like that this
is mini golf, but you're taking a risk because people
get you know, worn on things in Vegas. That's why
this one should turn over in restaurants and entertainment. So
I think it'll be fun. You said family friendly. Now
it's a good idea. Yeah, it's nice. You gotta see
the picture is really cool.
Speaker 5 (37:53):
All right, guys, you both love sports talk radio with
a passion. But a New England Patriots fan called into
a boss in sports talk station and said that the
team needs to cut top draft pick Drake May immediately
after one tough preseason game where he played just two series.
A caller has already seen enough of May midweek or major.
Speaker 2 (38:16):
Look, it's the nature of this sports talk listener, right
the over the top listener. You ever see big Fan
with Patton Oswalt, Yeah, they go, he has it all
written down, and that's not the type of guy we're
necessarily welcoming on our show. It's like, hey, man, just
be yourself. You don't have to put a lot of
the pressure on yourself. And I think he really just
wanted that hot take, that really hot take. Opinion. Like
(38:37):
I said, opinions are like podcasts. Everybody has one, and
most of them stink. Yeah, there you go, Uh listen.
I think it's just a reflection of how impatient we are,
Like we're talking. We're talking one game, one series, right
or something. Two series? Give me a break, Like, you know,
we forget the days of when athletes stunk their first
(38:58):
year or so until they got acclimated. I'll Peyton Manning.
Now people are saying two series, get out of here.
You know, two seasons might be a different story, but
come on, get out here. That's sell it, all right.
Speaker 5 (39:08):
And finally, there's a puddle around a leaky fire hydrant
back in your guys' old hometown, New York City, in
a neighborhood where they've converted it into a makeshift gold pond.
They gold see. Some residents want to make it permanent.
Now this hydrants located in Bedsty of Brooklyn. They've dubbed
(39:28):
it the Bedsty Goldfish Pond. Jakwan Irving and his friends
released all these goldfish into the puddle. The pond's now
become a local landmark. People taking pictures in front of it.
It's gone viral. Neighbors have come together to take care
of the fish. Everybody takes a turn, says Kevin Gardner
to WNBC TV. There did you feed the fish? It's
your turn to check on the fish. Guys, A makeshift
(39:50):
goldfish pond in your old hood Midweek or major.
Speaker 2 (39:54):
You know what I think it's I liked it. I
love the story. It sounds serene and peaceful. Now I
want to go, you know, a nice little choy pon.
Can you know the I'll be honest, you're right if
you like a coy pond. This is like a reduced
mini city version of goldfish. But you know what, here's
the problem, and this is with everything in life, one
idiot's gonna ruin it all. There's gonna be some drunk
(40:15):
buffoon that throws up on the goldfish, or some vagrant
that that uh, you know, like kills the fish, Like
we can't have nice things because there's always someone that
ruins it. And I just want this to last, but
I want to be shocked by tomorrow show, Danny like, yeah,
grand op any great clothes and all the fish are gone.
Someone's gonna steal the goldfish, all right. Thank you Danny J.
(40:35):
For your midweek major
