Speaker 3 (00:48):
Once again proving the point Baseball's popping and we're going
to talk about it. First game in Tennessee. I want
to be there, you know, Cavino, that is rich. It's
great to be in for Dan Patrick.
Speaker 2 (00:58):
You know what I want to say to all that
fuck it big dumper Clayton Kershaw.
Speaker 3 (01:03):
Last night, I thought you were gonna say Tennessee again.
Speaker 4 (01:05):
I was ready to throw shoe.
Speaker 2 (01:06):
Ay Now, I thought last night just proved again.
Speaker 5 (01:16):
You said it baseball is poppin'.
Speaker 4 (01:19):
Well, I have to quote.
Speaker 3 (01:21):
Dean Sanders, that's where I got it from. But yes,
and it's evident in every way, and we're going to
tell you all about it and why. It's the superstars
of the game. It's them doing everything right from the
home run derby to the swing off last night, which
I have a few issues and questions with, and we'll
talk about it.
Speaker 4 (01:40):
But a great time, a great game.
Speaker 3 (01:42):
Congratulations to the National League, and we have lots to
get to on today's show. On our show two to
four on the West Monday through Friday five to seven
on the East, we do something called Midweek Major. The
biggest stories in the world of sports and pop culture.
We break them down. Are they mid week or major.
We're gonna get to that. We'll try to give away some.
But we got to talk about our experience yesterday, and
(02:03):
just by the sound of my voice, you could tell
we were raging and representing, and we were screaming for
some home runs because man, I barely got anything left.
It's not because we were partying and boozing and schmoozing, well,
schmoozing definitely, but.
Speaker 4 (02:18):
We haven't really had time to party or anything.
Speaker 3 (02:21):
This is strictly from just having fun and talking to
people at these experiences. Baseball is back in a big way,
but don't call it a comeback.
Speaker 4 (02:30):
It's been here for years.
Speaker 2 (02:31):
But I just went on a little break for a
second where this sentiment was like Baseball's boring, Like Baseball's
not boring. But there was a minute where, I mean,
there weren't the big stars. Can I give you the
eighties and nineties, and I just feel like, I mean,
it happens every sport. It happened for a minute in
the NBA where you go through a decade where it's
(02:52):
like we need something things in life. The NBA's about
to go through that right now. I think, Yeah, maybe
you're right.
Speaker 3 (02:58):
In life, you're excited as a kid about the holidays, Christmas.
Speaker 4 (03:03):
Time, Easter time.
Speaker 3 (03:04):
Then the kids grow up and there seems to be
like a span or a cycle of years where it's
just not the same and the magic's sort of gone. Yeah,
and then those kids have kids and then all of
a sudden, the magic's back. Life goes through cycles, sports
goes through cycles.
Speaker 4 (03:20):
The crop up stars.
Speaker 3 (03:21):
Wasn't as exciting as it is right now, Like these
young guys now have brought it back in a big
way and we're reaping all the benefits.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
Yeah, Christmas Eve is not the same when the youngest
person in the family is like your twenty year old cousin. Yeah,
it's like, Hey, we're going to Uncle Frank's for Christmas
Eve and everyone just storing.
Speaker 4 (03:37):
Frank's drinking eggnog.
Speaker 3 (03:39):
No one's playing music, you know, he's Uncle bart is
sleeping on the lazy Boy's Like what happened to.
Speaker 4 (03:45):
The magic of the holidays.
Speaker 2 (03:46):
Then you snap your fingers and ten years later there's
like four or five little cousins or kids run around
and the holidays are back in baseball then that you know,
that's Otani, that's Judge, that's Lindor, that's polar Bear Pete, that's.
Speaker 4 (04:01):
School Bawl, and you know, go on all day.
Speaker 3 (04:03):
There's so many big names and if you don't know,
you need to. And before we get into the swing off.
Speaker 2 (04:10):
Do you want to talk about our experience real quick,
because we're going to talk about the All Star Game.
Speaker 3 (04:15):
Dude, we're going to talk about the swing off. But
we experienced something yesterday, guys that blew our minds. Now,
we have to make it clear. Rich and I have
been working together for a long time, so we've done
some pretty cool things. We travel a lot, We've gone
to Super Bowls a bunch of them, and we love it.
We don't take it for granted. We love it. But
(04:38):
we're big baseball fans. And we were asked to get
to the ballpark early to interview Zach Brown. Why Zach
Brown because he's singing the national anthem? And I have
to be honest, I was a little reluctant. I'm not
the biggest country guy.
Speaker 2 (04:53):
Can we know, much like most people listening, reluctant to
do things.
Speaker 5 (04:57):
Then once you do it, you like, I'm glad I
did it.
Speaker 2 (04:59):
It's like your buddy that does I want to go
out for a beer and you're like, come on, dude,
come on with the one drake.
Speaker 4 (05:03):
And then once you're out, you're like, oh, I'm glad
I came out.
Speaker 2 (05:07):
Now I will say this and we'll get to that
story too. Zach Brown's the coolest dude, and Rich is
absolutely right.
Speaker 3 (05:14):
I was super pumped to talk to him. I'm super
pumped about his new album and to see him live
and everything. But I'm more of a rock guy, and
he told me his new album has a lot of
rock in it, so I'm even more excited. But we're
at the stadium early to catch up with Zach and
we have on field access with our media passes. I'm
not sure we completely knew what type of access we had.
Speaker 5 (05:36):
I don't know if we completely deserve this type of access.
Speaker 3 (05:39):
I'm not sure if we broke rules or not.
Speaker 2 (05:41):
But the point of the story is if you walk
around with authority or just sort of like stumble into
the places you're not supposed to be, you got to
make the most of it. And Kavino and I that again,
this is not a well we've done cool things, but
we've worked in music and sports radio for a while,
so we've interviewed most people that we've looked up to,
(06:02):
the big stars. But when I tell you, yesterday, the
childhood fanboy in both of us came out because we
walk on the field, we're sitting in the dugout. I've
never done that, and I've never done that, And I
was ammocking because I said that to my girlfriend. When
I got back, She's like, you've never done that before.
Because we've been doing this for long. I'm like no, Like, honey,
(06:22):
I'm not a hot chick, all right, She's like my
girlfriends and I could do that whenever we want.
Speaker 3 (06:27):
Like no, but I guess you would assume because we've
been doing radio and broadcasting and TV for so long.
Speaker 4 (06:33):
I'm like, no, I've never been.
Speaker 3 (06:35):
Plus, we keep baseball at a distance because we're such
big fans and you.
Speaker 4 (06:40):
Know, you want to remain a fan.
Speaker 2 (06:41):
And we were in the Braves dugout and we're sitting
there taking pictures. They say, you know, act like you've
been there before, but I don't really subscribe to that
because I never have been there before. And I'm like, Rich,
you gotta take a picture, man, you got it to differ.
Speaker 4 (07:00):
Is insane.
Speaker 3 (07:01):
I've never been in a big league dugout.
Speaker 2 (07:03):
Before, either run, So you're not immediately I'm sitting there
taking it in like wow, this is their perspective, Look
at this, this is awesome.
Speaker 4 (07:12):
I had.
Speaker 2 (07:12):
I had to go on the top step of the
dugout and just put my arms on the padding to
be like, all right, so this is what like we do.
Speaker 4 (07:18):
We all did it.
Speaker 3 (07:19):
You can see a picture on our social media at
Covino and Rich because it was the coolest feeling. And
when you're sitting there looking out from the dugout, the
amount of press, I know, we might be staying the obvious,
but when you see it's a different story. The amount
of press there is ridiculous, is ridiculous, which just proves
(07:40):
how big these stars are, what they have to deal
with on the daily, and how immune they are to
the fanfare and the hustle and bustle of the press
and the media and everything else. It's insane. It's insanity,
but all cool goes out the window when you see
your baseball heroes. I don't know what it is about baseball.
(08:01):
It might be football to you, but you know, we've
interviewed I guess more football stars. I feel like baseball
is more I don't know, more of a different scene
where it's a private They're not as media friendly or something.
Speaker 4 (08:14):
I don't know what it is.
Speaker 3 (08:16):
But you're there and you're watching the big Dumper take
batting practice. You're watching Aaron Judge right there. You can
go out there and shake their hands.
Speaker 5 (08:26):
And just for the record, Aaron Judge in person.
Speaker 4 (08:29):
Monster. It's even bigger than I thought it would be. Yeah,
it made me look like a little person.
Speaker 2 (08:33):
There's again if you want at coven on Retch. We
posted a little montage of our on field fun yesterday
and Aaron Judge is a beast.
Speaker 5 (08:41):
He mikes Cavino.
Speaker 2 (08:42):
Someone said, it looks like you could put it a
Cavino in Aaron Judge's back pocket.
Speaker 3 (08:46):
Yeah, well guess what, You would look the same if
you were standing next to them. So it's insane how
thrilled we were to be on the field with the
biggest stars. Want you to know how exciting it is,
because we're fans like anybody else, fans first, but especially
with baseball, because as we've described when we talked about
the home run derby and our experience this week, it's
(09:08):
probably your first love. Not to get all romantic about
the beautiful game of baseball.
Speaker 4 (09:13):
Keep your pants on.
Speaker 3 (09:14):
But as a little kid, you wanted to probably be
a baseball player. I thought it was wild because then
after we're watching Aaron Judge, big dumper, check it out
his ass.
Speaker 2 (09:27):
The glabor of love. We watch all these dudes hitting bomb.
So you am a narrow So you say.
Speaker 4 (09:32):
Hi to jazz CHISHLM. I did say hi to Jazz
chism if he.
Speaker 2 (09:36):
Knows reluctan because he's like, I don't want to meet
the guys at root for and then if they're jerks.
Speaker 5 (09:40):
Then I'm going to be torn. I don't think they
would be.
Speaker 3 (09:44):
But if I don't get any sort of reciprocation or
I feel even the slightest bit of big time by
Judge or Aaron Boone or.
Speaker 2 (09:52):
Aaron Boone was standing five feet from us, and I go, yok,
go say how to Aaron Boone. He's the manager of
the team you watch every day in Kavino's like nah,
I'm like, dude, he's not talking to anyone, just say hi.
Speaker 4 (10:03):
It goes back to the old saying you never want
to meet your heroes.
Speaker 3 (10:06):
And that's why I brought up the point before that
you know, we've sort of been there and done that.
It's never not thrilling, But baseball stars aren't a different
place in my heart. It might be different for other
people listening, but when I see those dudes, like you said,
the childlike wonderment and excitement comes out.
Speaker 4 (10:27):
And we were all thrilled.
Speaker 3 (10:29):
And by the way, Spotty, our video producer, he grew
up a Yankees guy, but not the biggest baseball fan.
Speaker 4 (10:36):
Yeah, even he was like, this is amazing.
Speaker 2 (10:38):
The access spot, the access we had, the view, the
excitement of being on the.
Speaker 6 (10:43):
Field for All Star Day, incredible to your standing. Like
honestly I was. I was, you know, backed up against
Aaron Boone. I'll say, I was like, right up, you know,
watching Aaron Judge.
Speaker 3 (10:55):
H bombs in batting practice and you're hearing the snap
and crack of the bap and you're just watching it
fly out.
Speaker 2 (11:03):
There was that when you recommended Darren Boone that maybe
the Yankee should get cotton jerseys.
Speaker 4 (11:07):
Yeah, yeah, I was like, that's a good idea, cotton jerseys.
Speaker 3 (11:11):
But really, Fox Sports Radio Nation, Dan Patrick Show, I
wish everybody could experience this. And man, we did not
take it for this story. Danny g I was excited
to tell you the story because Danny was doing other
stuff while we were doing this, and Danny, it really
was like a childhood dream come true.
Speaker 4 (11:30):
It was awesome.
Speaker 3 (11:30):
It was like kinda take all this in and then
somehow again walk with authority. I'm not sure our credentials
really allowed all this. We went inside the dugout and
let's just say we got lost looking for Zach Brown.
Speaker 4 (11:41):
Oh man, well all.
Speaker 2 (11:42):
The other they said, go through the dugout towards the
American League Clubhouse and you'll see like the press elevator, and.
Speaker 4 (11:51):
Then you'll we just started roaming and you'll meet.
Speaker 2 (11:53):
Zach Brown's publicist or the interview. We may have taken
a wrong turn. I think I saw like players. We
made a wrong turn at Albuquerque. I saw players and
like they're like getting worked on, like on them, stretching tables, and.
Speaker 3 (12:09):
We saw the hole behind the scenes facilities.
Speaker 4 (12:13):
We walked into the locker room. We walked into the
locker room.
Speaker 3 (12:17):
We saw them getting taped up and everything.
Speaker 2 (12:19):
Spot spot to a couple photos of uh, the bats
and they were just there and I was like, man, sweet.
Speaker 4 (12:27):
Bat bags, all the bats.
Speaker 3 (12:29):
We took photos of it, like I don't even know
if we're supposed to be here, but this is awesome, dude.
We were like really in it where they were getting
ready and everything, like.
Speaker 4 (12:36):
Wow, this is nuts, and no one was telling us
to leave.
Speaker 2 (12:40):
And sorry, it sounds like we're fanboying out, but that's
exactly what we were feeling.
Speaker 4 (12:44):
Inside.
Speaker 7 (12:44):
I saw Judge scratches butt. Yeah, Judge sitting there chilling you. Hey,
what's up. You know it was up man, But no, Rich,
none of this was better than when you guys were
there to see the first ever swing off.
Speaker 5 (12:56):
Right, We're gonna get to that. We're going to get
to that.
Speaker 2 (12:59):
But I will say this, I will say to wrap
it up, to wrap this portion of the of the
All Star Game up.
Speaker 3 (13:07):
It was an experience. I'll never forget it. That's all
I have to say.
Speaker 2 (13:10):
If you've ever worked in a world where you were
able to get backstage at a concert, that always underdelivers
because you're like, well, let's get backstage. You're like, maybe
in a different maybe, and it was like, you know,
girls and drugs and craziness. But now, if you go
backstage at a concert, just a bunch of roadies with
ponytails and old smelly dudes set up equipment.
Speaker 5 (13:33):
No offense. So backstage at a concert.
Speaker 4 (13:36):
No offense. He looked at me, old smelly dudes, no offense. Ta.
Speaker 2 (13:40):
I just don't think backstage is all that awesome. But
I will say in the clubhouse, in the tunnels of
a stadium of a game, there is a sense that
if you're a sports fan, you feel like that excitement.
Speaker 3 (13:52):
Like, oh wow, this is a room where it happens.
Speaker 2 (13:54):
We know. It's that feeling of we were all kids
that dreamt one day, like, man, I wonder be like
to be a big leaguer, and you, for just a
split second, you're like, oh, this is their life, Like
there's their lockers.
Speaker 1 (14:07):
I saw.
Speaker 2 (14:08):
I don't want to call players, but I saw a
couple of players greeting their wives and talking to their kids, like, Hey,
what's up, buddy, Dad's got to go play baseball.
Speaker 5 (14:16):
I'm seeing moments I feel like I shouldn't be seeing.
Speaker 4 (14:18):
And that's really what we're trying to get across.
Speaker 3 (14:20):
It was an amazing experience and just excited to share
that with you. Dan Patrick nation FSR. It was so
cool that I have certain rules that I broke yesterday.
Speaker 2 (14:33):
Like I don't FaceTime. I don't do it. I don't
like it. It's intrusive. I feel weird. I'm looking at myself.
Speaker 3 (14:39):
My nose looks giant when I'm when I'm so close
to the phone like that, Like is that what I
look like?
Speaker 4 (14:44):
I'm so fixated on me that I hate it. That's
why you're helping.
Speaker 7 (14:49):
You don't like seeing your triple chin. I don't like
the angle I'm like, this is terrible. I'm not calling
anybody looking like this. And I hate when people call
me because I'm usually just.
Speaker 3 (14:57):
Like being lazy or on the ball or right watching
the Yankees or whatever.
Speaker 4 (15:02):
I'm like, I got a call. I have a family chat.
I called the whole family, like, YO, look at me.
Speaker 2 (15:08):
Hit it, mom, I made it to the big leagues,
top of the world. Called my girlfriend. I'm like, yeah,
look at this. Called my stupid brother.
Speaker 8 (15:18):
Yo.
Speaker 3 (15:19):
Your boys on the field, Guys, we've all experienced some
sort of moment like.
Speaker 2 (15:25):
This that was ours yesterday. I just wish that you
could have been there. Just a pretty cool, special moment. Yeah,
we had a share just because it was on our mind.
Speaker 3 (15:33):
It was incredible. So I thank Zach Brown for bringing
us there in the first place. We finally leave the
field and we leave the dugout and we.
Speaker 4 (15:42):
Find Zach Brown in his sweet.
Speaker 3 (15:44):
So now we're in Zach Brown's sweet and we do
an interview that you're gonna see on Thursday on our
bonus podcast. Over promised, and he couldn't have been any cooler.
I asked him, have any nerves about singing the national anthem?
The dude was coolest could. I couldn't care.
Speaker 2 (16:01):
It goes to our conversation yesterday and like, aren't you
gonna prepare?
Speaker 3 (16:05):
Or like you're are you sure you're ready for this?
Speaker 5 (16:08):
Yeah, like you are trying to push your nerves on
Zach Brown.
Speaker 2 (16:11):
I'm like, I know in my mind, I'm like, why
do you think a guy that performs in front of stadiums.
Speaker 3 (16:15):
And arenas, there's like fifty five thousand people here, millions
are watching.
Speaker 4 (16:19):
You're good, buddy? Sure did?
Speaker 2 (16:20):
We're talking about this honor off the area yesterday? Was
this honor off the area yesterday? Where you were trying
to convince me that Cody Rhodes had to be nervous
at the home run derby when he came out with
the belt and did a little speech.
Speaker 3 (16:31):
It might have been on our Patreon podcast, but I
was saying that he had to be prepared.
Speaker 4 (16:36):
People don't just wing it and show up willy nilly
like you do.
Speaker 3 (16:40):
You know, some people prepare, and when you're part of
a big event like that, I'm sure he was well.
Speaker 5 (16:46):
Prepared for it. I think you overestimate.
Speaker 2 (16:48):
Look at the Oscars, the Emmys, the Grammys, any award show.
These actors are acts and celebrities get up there and
they're reading a prompter for the first time.
Speaker 5 (16:57):
It's crazy how some people just don't have nerves.
Speaker 4 (17:01):
I don't. I mean I.
Speaker 3 (17:03):
Nerves are a good thing. No, it's it's again just
being prepared for the moment. If you don't have butterflies,
you don't care enough. We've always said that. You hear
that all the time when it comes to sports. But
it was excitement in the air and it all led
to maybe the most exciting moment in All Star Game history.
Speaker 4 (17:21):
So that was just the start of it. Guys.
Speaker 3 (17:23):
That was just the start of the day. And it
was a beautiful day. But it was rainy too for
a portion of the day.
Speaker 2 (17:30):
And people are like, oh man, apparently here in Atlanta
it rains, then it's nice, just like Florida. Yeah, well
guess what, we're pretty close. Yeah, so it makes sense.
But I wasn't sure of that. I was like, man,
is it going to continue raining like this?
Speaker 4 (17:42):
Nope?
Speaker 3 (17:43):
The baseball gods made it happen. Cleared up and it
was a beautiful day, beautiful night.
Speaker 2 (17:50):
And I always find the intro of an All Star
Game the most exciting part. Maybe not this year, but
usually I love the player intros. The bival of the
hometown gets booed, so you're gonna boo the Phillies and
the Mets and the Dodgers except Freddy who gets love
here still. But it was it was cool to see
the player intros and Welcome to Atlantis playing Like everything
(18:13):
about the player intros I thought was cool and you
said it yesterday. The return of the jerseys, the return
of everyone rocking their regular.
Speaker 5 (18:26):
And uniforms except the one. Do you know the one changed?
The one difference?
Speaker 4 (18:29):
No, what was it?
Speaker 2 (18:30):
Did anyone else noticed the one difference? While they all
rocked their uniforms, there was one little difference. They all
rocked all Star hats, but not like just a patch
like the Mets wore a blue hat with a with
an orange brim. The Yankees judge wore the navy hat
with a gray brim, like it was a special All
(18:51):
Star hat. But besides that, I thought it was cool.
I thought it was cool to see all the guys
in They're home and away real jerseys, which is cool.
Speaker 3 (19:02):
Now, before we move on and get into the game,
does anyone fault me for not going up to the Yankees.
I'm Coveno. I'm a Yankees fan. Rich is a Mets guy,
but we're baseball fans period. I don't think anybody wants
to take the chance of being big time by people
a younger than them, because you're.
Speaker 4 (19:21):
At a different place.
Speaker 2 (19:22):
If you're a kid and you're going up to George
Brett or Wade Boggs or Don Mattingly, Hey, hey, Darryl Strawberry,
you know the different sort of no shame in that
right as a grown man, boy, you think I want
to be big time.
Speaker 4 (19:39):
By Aaron Judger, Jazz Chisholm.
Speaker 3 (19:41):
No, so I want to keep that, you know, in
a distance, give him a vato nod of respect, like
that's my guy. But there's no way I want to
go up to them and Aaron Boone say hey, I
get out of my way. Guy, I'm busy. I would
be crushed. So do you understand or do you say, ah,
you should.
Speaker 2 (19:59):
Have when got a photo. She should have got a photo.
I think you should have went to just say hi.
Speaker 7 (20:03):
No, I one hundred percent understand because at the last
Super Bowl I walked up to c J. Stroud, remember,
and I told him, bro, I'm a diehard Raider fan.
And I really wish we had traded up to draft
you and great season kid. He was with his boys,
and he just looked like he was in a really
bad moody and want to talk to anybody. And I
(20:25):
kind of stepped back, and I watched the next person
walk up to him and say something, and same thing.
He kind of iced them too, and I was like, man,
I really liked this quarterback.
Speaker 3 (20:34):
But now I was like, and here you are a
grown man would have Ryan Lee but been in this
business a long time, and you're like, man, I didn't
deserve that sort of true.
Speaker 4 (20:42):
But look, I see CJ.
Speaker 7 (20:44):
Stroud on Sports Center last night doing one of the
wish things for a kid who needs a heart transplant,
and it was amazing, and he's an amazing guy, So
maybe he was just having a bad day. So I
guess that's why you can't just judge I would change somebody.
Speaker 4 (20:58):
One time.
Speaker 5 (20:58):
I would have chalked it up to it's just Danny.
Speaker 7 (21:01):
No, That's what I thought too, But then I saw
mice Outh the next person that walked up to him, right,
you know, it's not an.
Speaker 2 (21:07):
Easy life for some of these young athletes. I mean, yeah,
they make the money fame girls, all that stuff.
Speaker 3 (21:11):
But dude, imagine walking around like Aaron Judge, for example,
and he really was the most prominent guy there at
that moment.
Speaker 4 (21:18):
I'm not just saying that because I'm a Yankees fan.
He was, and cal Rawley because he was walking around.
Speaker 2 (21:22):
It's all hard to miss him because he's such a
he's such a beast, he's a you can't miss Aaron Judge.
Speaker 3 (21:27):
Everybody he walks by is trying to snap a photo
or jump in a selfie with him. And we're talking
people in the media, you know, So imagine what the
fans do when they see this guy. So you're right,
and it makes sense because there was a story about
a month ago how Aaron Judge doesn't leave his hotel
room on away games because it's just too much. So
(21:48):
it makes sense and that was our experience yesterday.
Speaker 2 (21:51):
It's an interesting thought though, like when you're a grown man,
when you're a kid, it's one thing, Yeah, you could
when you're a little boy and you're like, you know,
Carmello Anthony or whatever, you know, Joe Montana, you could,
you know, if you get.
Speaker 5 (22:04):
Dissed, it's like, oh man, he must have been busy.
I'm a kid or something.
Speaker 2 (22:07):
When you're grown up and you get iced out by
another grown up, especially like you said, someone younger than you.
Speaker 5 (22:12):
If you're a forty some of year old grown man
and you get.
Speaker 2 (22:15):
Dissed, you got dissed by some kid that's half your age,
you feel like an ass clown.
Speaker 4 (22:22):
And I don't want to take that chance.
Speaker 2 (22:24):
But I will say this. We went out there for
National American League batting practice. We were not there for
the National League. Had I seen Polar Bear, Peede or
Francisco Lindor, I think I would have went up and
be like, hey man, just a big fan. Yeah, I
would have said something because I.
Speaker 3 (22:41):
Gave Judge a shooter McGavin. Is that not good enough?
Speaker 2 (22:44):
Well, if you watch our video when Judge, when Judge
is taking VP, he turns around and gives Covino a
little hattie the little wave.
Speaker 4 (22:51):
Yeah, I was filming him during batting practice.
Speaker 3 (22:53):
Again, you could see this footage at Covino and Rich
check our instagram.
Speaker 4 (22:57):
We posted it yesterday.
Speaker 2 (22:58):
But to answer the question, much like relationships, if you
have a buddy going through a divorce or a bad breakup,
sometimes you'll hear him say things like yeah, I'm I'm
never gonna trust a woman again. Yeah, they're and and
you see guys and women get jaded, like all guys
are dirt bags. And you got to say you can't
(23:18):
judge everyone on on a couple of crappy people you met,
because again, I would have probably tried to approach Lindor
yesterday just to say hi, and I have the story
of the Ultimate disc. A couple of years back, I'm
a big Niners fan. At the super Bowl, you guys
all saw. This is when people cared about him, Colin Kaepernick,
before all the drama. I saw him in a VIP
(23:39):
section where we were hanging at an ESPN party. No
one was around him, he wasn't busy, he was just
like looking at his phone. I took the perfect, well
timed moment to be like, yo, cap, I'm a big fan.
I love what you're doing, man, that's it right, And
I go quick selfie and he's like no and walked away,
and I felt like, wow, I thought I timed that.
Speaker 4 (24:03):
I thought I played it right. I feel like an
as clown. But you know what, nah play it. You
didn't sign that right.
Speaker 5 (24:09):
Nah play.
Speaker 3 (24:10):
I wasn't willing to take that chance, but man, was
an experience. And then we ended up in some little
like area where it was just all these quote unquote
important people eating all these delicious meals and it.
Speaker 2 (24:25):
Was catered, Like what is going on? I love this,
love on all the time, not invited. Nothing is better
than finding your place, finding you into an area you
know you're not supposed to be in, but no one
stops you. It's some sort of baseball park.
Speaker 4 (24:38):
Lounge going on.
Speaker 2 (24:39):
Everybody's eating, Like, man, this is the good life. I
can get used to this. This is awesome.
Speaker 3 (24:44):
And again, Rich and I have been doing this a
long time, but that's how great the experience was. And
the red carpet was truly out for the All Stars yesterday,
and that was just.
Speaker 7 (24:53):
Your vantage point. Then for the swing off, Oh my goodness,
I can't wait to hear.
Speaker 2 (24:57):
It, and I'm glad you brought that out because it
had to maybe the most exciting game. We haven't even
got to the game yet. We're gonna We're gonna get
to that next. Was it the most memorable All Star
game ever? Your thoughts on the game. We're gonna get
to all that now.
Speaker 4 (25:10):
How was it?
Speaker 3 (25:11):
My friends hit me up gimmicky. Some of my buddies
were saying, dude, Jimmy, some people that bitch can plain
about everything.
Speaker 2 (25:18):
In fact, there was a fight on one of my
baseball group chats yesterday. So we'll go over all the pros, cons,

a halfway point, but it's not. It's like sixty games left.
It's it's Uh, we're getting down.
Speaker 4 (27:26):
It's go time, showtime.

baseball ever does expand, Nashville's got to be the spot,
right Nah, So let's get back to it.
Speaker 5 (28:13):
Let's wrap this up.
Speaker 2 (28:14):
We'll move on to some NFL but are final thoughts
and the swing off to end the All Star game
last night. It was awesome And there's always gonna be
people that bitch and can play. Like like you said,
you had buddies. I'm like, it's gimmicky. I had a
friend that his first statement on our group chat was
like this' stupid.
Speaker 5 (28:32):
I'm like that, you're stupid.
Speaker 4 (28:33):
I really found this to.
Speaker 3 (28:35):
Be exciting, but I didn't like the fact that because
Dave Roberts mismanaged, we're in this situation. That's how I
felt about it. But they put these rules in place
for a reason. I get it, and it was the
first time we've ever seen a swing off.
Speaker 2 (28:46):
Well, hold on, now, did he mismanage because if there's
a rule for a swing off, then he michmataged nothing.
Speaker 4 (28:54):
Burned through all this pictures.
Speaker 2 (28:56):
But if the MLB's put rules in place for swing off,
he mismanaged nothing.
Speaker 3 (29:02):
I'm not a fan of that, but they have to
figure out who wins this game. You got all these
fans there waiting, and.
Speaker 5 (29:10):
But yeah, point you keep saying, miss he mismantaged nothing, because.
Speaker 3 (29:12):
If they I personally think he did because he kept
his arms fresh right to get to that point.
Speaker 4 (29:17):
To give every player.
Speaker 2 (29:19):
Aaron Boone kept people on reserve in case they needed
who's still ready to go?
Speaker 5 (29:23):
Does no one case because it goes to a swing off?
Speaker 4 (29:25):
A fan of it.
Speaker 7 (29:26):
If this still affected the World Series, then I would
say mismanaged.
Speaker 3 (29:29):
But I do like the end result because the swing
off was exciting, and then our first question as fans
is like, why did they choose these bats?
Speaker 5 (29:37):
There's no mismataging because if it got to you he.
Speaker 2 (29:40):
Did, if it goes through his pictures and it went
extra innings, if they would have went extra innings, if
it goes to a tie game and they burnt through
the pictures, as a swing off dude, as a fan,
I don't like it. I'm telling you I'm allowed to
feel that way. I'm not the only guy. Because Rich
says so doesn't make it true. I'm just telling you
I don't like him. Now he managed it, because that's
not fair to Aaron Boone.
Speaker 4 (29:59):
Then you know what Boncher fresh arms in the games
or boom good comeback.
Speaker 2 (30:04):
He should have had fresh games too. But you're making
no sense. If he was going to burn through his pictures,
Aaron Boon should have burned through his pictures. But if
there's no penalty for burning through your pictures. Because they
so assumed that they were going to win this game,
that Dave Roberts, willy nilly, there you go. That's probably
why you enjoy it, because that's how you roll in life.
Now just started throwing people into the game. Instead of
trying to really manage the game, you're just like, hey,
(30:26):
get it what other fans want to see? Everyone get
a chance, right, because look he turned down.
Speaker 3 (30:30):
Was great, But I didn't find that to be fair
for the al and Aaron Boom I just did it.
Speaker 4 (30:35):
I'm not saying he broke rules.
Speaker 3 (30:36):
I'm saying, in reality, I feel he mismanaged it. But sorry,
let's swing off, think what you want and shove it up.
But you're missing the point. Mismanaging would mean there's a penalty.
I'm not trying to make it clear for you. I
think people understand.
Speaker 5 (30:53):
I think you're an idiot.
Speaker 3 (30:54):
Okay, you know what, let's take the phone calls.
Speaker 4 (30:56):
Who's the idiot?
Speaker 2 (30:57):
The bonehead who thinks he's always right and he's wrong,
but he often thinks he's right. You can't nine on
box or really, why did you burn through the pictures?
Speaker 4 (31:07):
You know why?
Speaker 2 (31:08):
Because they thought they had the game in the bag
and that's why, and also because there's no penalty if
they did. I get that, but we've never gotten to
this point. Well, I bet you Aaron Boone. I bet
you Aaron Boone would have put more.
Speaker 3 (31:21):
Pictures in if he was in the business of sort
of mismanaging. So because of that, it's forced into a
swing off.
Speaker 4 (31:29):
Am I mad at that?
Speaker 10 (31:30):
No?
Speaker 7 (31:31):
Because it was awesome. I don't like the end result,
but it was awesome. And as a fan, you're like, wait.
Speaker 4 (31:36):
A second.
Speaker 2 (31:39):
Swing off? Why is Kyle Stowers and Aranda in this?
You know and Randy Rose arena? Because it was pre
selected But I didn't know that at the time. I
found out later on. Oh so they pre selected it,
probably never thinking it was gonna matter anyway. So it's
kind of like when you're on a plane. Here's my understing.
(31:59):
When you're a plane and you're in the exit row and.
Speaker 3 (32:01):
They're like, hey man, in case of emergency, uh, you're
in the exit row.
Speaker 4 (32:05):
Are you good with uh? And you're like yeah, yeah,
what that raise my head going through the motion?
Speaker 5 (32:09):
You you take out one AirPod and you're like, yes.
Speaker 4 (32:11):
Yes, I'm in the exit row. Yes. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (32:14):
They prior to the game say hey, if this goes
extra innings into a swing off, or you want to
do a derby action, Hey, Shwarver, you want to do this?
Speaker 4 (32:22):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (32:22):
Yeah, whatever, because you're assuming it's never gonna happen. Sounds
like sounds like Aaron Boone mismanaged that part.
Speaker 3 (32:29):
Not really, but there's a lot of people wondering, well,
why wasn't judging it?
Speaker 4 (32:33):
Why wasn't Otani in it?
Speaker 3 (32:35):
You know, Danny g had the best suggestion of all,
and social media was also buzzing about the fact, why
not just have the people that participated in the home
run derby be the guys on standby here in case
this happens because it intertwines the derby the actual game.
Speaker 4 (32:53):
Yeah, it wraps it up perfectly.
Speaker 3 (32:54):
It's like, well, these are the derby guys, Well, these
are the guys that are going to be participating in
case of swing off happens. But no, you got Brent
Rooker and Stow Wars. And it wasn't even supposed to
be Stow Wars from Miami. It was supposed to be
Eugenio Suarez.
Speaker 7 (33:08):
He got hurt at least Rooker was in the derby,
and then he went on to hit two homers out
of the three chances.
Speaker 3 (33:14):
Rozarina and Schwarber and Ronda and Pete Alonzo.
Speaker 4 (33:17):
I guess was the anchor. I just can't imagine.
Speaker 2 (33:20):
I can't imagine why Iron Judge wouldn't it be one
of Boone's three guys, unless he was scared to do it,
or Boone mismanaged and said it doesn't matter, I won't
need him.
Speaker 5 (33:34):
But there's a big rumor going around that so many.
Speaker 2 (33:37):
Of these starters once they got pulled, some of them
left the ballpark. Someone hung in the clubhouse, someone to
hang with their families, which I really don't care about.
Speaker 5 (33:44):
It's the All Star gum, it's an exhibition.
Speaker 4 (33:46):
But for people they showed a school. He looked like
he was ready to go out clubbing.
Speaker 2 (33:51):
So when you you know, when you're in the All
Star Game and there are no stakes really other than
just your entertain the fans, and it's a night of
celebrating your sport like this, rumors.
Speaker 3 (34:04):
Pride on the line. No one wants to embarrass themselves.
It's the All Star Game. A lot of people are watching.
Speaker 2 (34:08):
But I but I think, uh, there's still ultimate competitors.
But Otani, there's big rumors that he wasn't even in
the stadium.
Speaker 5 (34:18):
You have a problem with that or not?
Speaker 4 (34:19):
Really?
Speaker 3 (34:19):
I do, yeah, kind of, But I also gets probably
standard for something like that. And you also have to
keep in mind, what did we learn from being on
the field and watching all the fanfare.
Speaker 2 (34:31):
And the media, It's like, you know, a guy like
Otani probably just has to get out early or else
he's there until three am.
Speaker 7 (34:39):
They retired just like you guys from a long weekend Atlanta.
Speaker 4 (34:42):
And wanted to get back to the hotel.
Speaker 2 (34:44):
Don't play me if I left early. Otani left early.
In our defense, we're not in the game, dude, right
my bro, I don't know if you know, my bro,
show Hey, hit me up.
Speaker 5 (34:51):
He's like, I'm leaving, are you I'm like, yeah, me too.
Speaker 4 (34:54):
Show Hey.
Speaker 3 (34:55):
Hey, you know what I hear a lot of a
lot of people on social media right now speculating dog
in us from even early, guys, we were super pumped.
Speaker 4 (35:02):
To be there.
Speaker 3 (35:02):
No one was more excited than us. We were exhausted,
and if you really want to know, we didn't have seats.
We did have credentials that got us to really cool places,
as we discussed, and we're really grateful for that, but
we didn't have actual seats.
Speaker 4 (35:15):
So it's like I'm just.
Speaker 3 (35:17):
Walking around trying to get a view, said let's go
back and watch it.
Speaker 2 (35:20):
We had access to a lot of cool places, but
no actual seat, which is.
Speaker 3 (35:25):
I'm reading some really raw feedback. Look at this Jabbroni
Bubba hating on us because we left early. It's like, hey, dude,
we were working so long, all work. I used work,
you know with quotes air quotes, because we have fun
doing what we do.
Speaker 4 (35:40):
But we really had to get back.
Speaker 2 (35:42):
We had other work to do, the truth is, and
we didn't have anywhere to sit. It's not like we
left the playoff game early, or we left a concert
before the encore. It's not like the people that left.
It's not like the people that left the Gibson. Yeah,
it's not like this people. We're not the people that
left the heat spurs getting.
Speaker 7 (36:00):
To sweet that out from fsr's account right now. Covino
and Rich are break lights.
Speaker 3 (36:05):
But but we did miss I'm not gonna like downplay it.
We did miss history and something awesome and something I
wish I could tell my grandkids one day when I'm
feeding the ducks. You know, kids, the first time, the
first ever swing off, Grandpa was in Atlanta.
Speaker 4 (36:21):
I was there. No, we.
Speaker 2 (36:24):
Kind of lied and said, hey guys when we were there,
all right for you going on, let's go to a
couple of phone calls and then we'll talk about all
how it all culminated. I want to hear how it
was from inside truest Field because Danny g said, the
crowd erupted with this in excitement. Here's to Stephen in
Virginia Beach. It's up Stephen, Hey, Steve, what's up? Steven Man?
Speaker 4 (36:51):
So saving arm when there's no possibility of extra adding.
Speaker 2 (37:00):
Mismadened was that's what our buddy Matt Minnesota, our buddy
Matt and Minnesota hit us up.
Speaker 5 (37:05):
Going Cavino is so off on this.
Speaker 2 (37:07):
You can't misstanding your personal buddy who's hitting you up?
Oh really, well, listen, I'm telling you he's not your
friend of Minnesota.
Speaker 4 (37:13):
I don't like mattin Minnesota. I like uh, I like.
Speaker 3 (37:17):
Everyone agrees with me, and I'll read their comments in
a minute.
Speaker 2 (37:20):
You can't define mismanagement when it's not mismataged. So okay,
but yeah, Boone, no, because Roberts just assumed they were
gonna win, That's really it. But I mean, when you
can't never gonna see, we're never gonna see eye to
eye on something, you can't mismatage something when there's no repercussion.
Speaker 3 (37:37):
Right, I wasn't Vye with it. At that point, I
was like, well, that doesn't seem fair. It's not Aaron
Boone's fault, it's Roberts. Try to get every arm in there,
give everyone a chance.
Speaker 2 (37:48):
I guess I don't know. That's that was my first instinct.
Let's go to keV in Culver City. What's up, Kevin?
Speaker 10 (37:56):
Hey can couldn't be better guy to do the show
this morning. I mean I was over the moon watching
the game last night. It was incredible. You know, all
the major sports trying to figure out how to you know,
do the All Star Games, NBA, Pro Bowl and Major
League Baseball got it right. I mean swing off. It
felt like showmanship. It was like the show and the biggest,
(38:19):
like box office type of show that you could want.
You got Colin Schwarber winning it on the swing off,
and I like, I don't like bringing the home run
dirty guys, because you don't get Shwarburn, you know, get
Alonzo to close it out. I mean, two of the
biggest home run hitters in the league going, you know,
you know, backing up each other in a swing off,
and I just I can't imagine, and I know it
will never happen, but I'm crazy to say it. In
(38:40):
the World Series setting go Tony versus Judge and the
swing off for a World Series, it.
Speaker 3 (38:47):
Was it was exciting that theatrics were incredible.
Speaker 7 (38:50):
I'm so glad keV brought that up because on the
shuttle ride back when the game was over, all of
the people were buzzing about they should end regular season
extra inning games like this, forget that automatic runner on
second I heard several people saying that out loud, and
maybe they were just caught in them up in the moment,
but I heard that from several fans that were there.
Speaker 2 (39:13):
Well, the game is based nowadays a lot on the
home run. It's exciting. Yeah, it's like it's like an
NBA slam dunk, or to a far three pointer, or
let's be honest, like a deep pass in the NFL,
a pick six.
Speaker 5 (39:24):
Like it's the excitement of the home run.
Speaker 2 (39:27):
And I will say I feel a little bad for
Polar Bear Peede Alonzo because I agree with you there
he was, he was he was going to be your MVP,
and then.
Speaker 4 (39:37):
He was one for two with three RBI.
Speaker 2 (39:40):
Big yeah, you know, bomb, you know, he was definitely
your MVP of the game.
Speaker 3 (39:45):
And he was the anchor of the swing off and
I never got a shot.
Speaker 2 (39:48):
So if let's just say was tied, right, Let's say
the dude on who was the last guy wasn't even
like a big star. I mean, he was an All Star,
But who was the guy that hit zero?
Speaker 4 (39:58):
Ronda?
Speaker 2 (39:59):
Yeah, it was a Ronda. If he would have hit Seattle,
if he would have hit It's not that he's not
a big star. He's an All Star. He just only
has eleven.
Speaker 7 (40:06):
Home run until last hit came close and then his
third strike, dude, he came inches away.
Speaker 2 (40:13):
But I'm saying, if he hits one and it's tied,
I think if Pete Alonso just hits one and he
walks it off and he should have.
Speaker 4 (40:21):
Been the MVP. He's the MVP because of the game.
Speaker 5 (40:23):
I think, I think if Alonzo would have just hit one.
Speaker 3 (40:25):
But I'm saying I had a bunch of thoughts and
a bunch of feelings because three players from each team,
three swings from each player team's alternate team with the
most home run wins the All Star Game.
Speaker 2 (40:37):
Right, And I'm like, man, this is wild. The whole
thing was so cool to see. Let's say, how to
gath Garth, you're hunting Washington.
Speaker 4 (40:47):
What's that?
Speaker 2 (40:47):
Man?
Speaker 10 (40:48):
Hey?
Speaker 8 (40:49):
What's going on?
Speaker 1 (40:49):
Though?
Speaker 8 (40:49):
Hey, I just want to talk about number one.
Speaker 10 (40:52):
So this last night it felt like a shootout.
Speaker 8 (40:55):
In a hockey game or a soccer game.
Speaker 10 (40:57):
So it's sweet.
Speaker 1 (40:59):
Man.
Speaker 8 (40:59):
You know, that's one of the coolest things in sports.
You know, if you're in a World Cup final or
something and then go to a shootout, man, You're everybody's
on the edge of their seat. So that's kind of
how I felt watching this last night. And number two,
I want to just want to talk about Aaron Brune.
I guess I didn't realize that they predetermined the lineup,
but man, how do you not let Judge and cal
Raley swing off if they're still there?
Speaker 2 (41:19):
Man? Like, That's like, these are the thoughts we all
had watching it. So I'm trying to express what I
was thinking at the time. I don't never having a
stake down the ball to pretend that everybody knew these rules.
Speaker 4 (41:31):
Everyone's full of boloney, like rich because.
Speaker 2 (41:33):
Nobody knew that they had these things predetermined unless you're
Tim Kirkshin or Jeff Passing.
Speaker 4 (41:40):
Because I didn't know that. And I'm a baseball fan.
Speaker 7 (41:42):
Since it was predetermined, and the managers have been around
these games before.
Speaker 4 (41:46):
Maybe they know Judge isn't still going to be around O.
Speaker 7 (41:50):
Tawney's gonna be in his limo by then, and that's
one of the factors in why they picked too.
Speaker 4 (41:55):
They picked.
Speaker 3 (41:56):
That's another point, Danny G. But here's where I actually
agree with Rich again. First instinct, we're watching from the bar.
What Kyle Schwarber did three pitches, three home runs in
that high pressure moment, he even admitted it was a
high pressure moment was amazing. And how he went down
(42:16):
and scooped up that last home run on a knee,
like you mentioned, that was insane. But for him to
win the MVP for that, I really do have a
problem with it. I don't think he was the MVP
because he had no hits in the game. This was
like a separate portion of the game in my opinion.
This is just my opinion relaxed, So not you, Danny G.
I'm saying everybody who's like, dude, And then he gets
(42:38):
MVP for hitting three meatballs. Pete Alonzo hit a three
run blast in the game, a legitimate pitcher off a
legitimate pitcher, So yeah, Kyle Schwarber is a hero.
Speaker 4 (42:47):
And it was incredible.
Speaker 2 (42:48):
I don't want to take anything away because he made
it look easy.
Speaker 4 (42:52):
Dude.
Speaker 2 (42:52):
It was highly impressive. I get it, but he's the
MVP for that. He had three meatballs for home runs. Yeah,
it was a big moment, but Pete Alonzo is still
the MVP in my opinion.
Speaker 4 (43:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (43:04):
Dave DeMarco tweeted out this morning, Kyle Schwarber's bat has
to be on the way to Cooper's town. The first
ever perfect round in a swing off to win an
All Star Game.
Speaker 4 (43:13):
Yeah, it was cool. It was he was pressure so cool.
Speaker 3 (43:17):
Guys, don't don't yeah, please don't misunderstand what I'm saying.
Speaker 4 (43:20):
But I still think that along he still should have
got the MVP.
Speaker 3 (43:23):
Yeah that's how I That's just how I felt because
I'm like, that was just how you decided to win it.
Speaker 2 (43:28):
That wasn't really part of the game, was it. Or
I guess we just have to look at it differently. Look,
it's the first time we ever experienced it. These are
the things I was thinking. I did feel for Pee Alonzo,
even though you know.
Speaker 4 (43:40):
He's had his moments. He's good.
Speaker 3 (43:41):
This is what fifth All Star Game and it's wild
to see guys like him. Are the veterans rich nowadays?
Speaker 4 (43:46):
Yeah, well, he was.
Speaker 2 (43:47):
Saying that when he was miked up, how it's a
great mix of young players and veterans. I just wanted
to point out one thing, because there are going to
be people that say, Aaron Boone head rally and judge
and there's sluggers Otani that didn't do it leaving a
game early. I'm not going to get down on them.
It's an all star game. Then again, there are fans
(44:08):
there watching in person and on TV. But I think
it's one of those scenarios that we've all been through
in life where you don't really think something's gonna happen,
so you don't prepare for it. Like I'll give you,
I'll give you one, and I had say, because we're
all flying today, but you know when they're like, there
might be turbulence and someone doesn't put their seatbelt on
and then then they might you know, spill their drink
(44:29):
or bump their head or something, or you leave that
house that example.
Speaker 7 (44:32):
Yeah, thanks for putting that out there. Yeah, you leave,
You'll leave the house two flights today, appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (44:37):
You'll leave the house, right, and you're like, you know what,
I'm wearing flip flops and I didn't cull my hair.
I'm not going to bump into anyone. And then you
bump into like your high school sweetheart or so, you know,
like what's a chance? You always do the what's the chances?
And I think Otani's probably his limo, like what's the chances? Oh?
Speaker 4 (44:55):
I would dude.
Speaker 7 (44:57):
Don't you think because of how this all played out,
that might.
Speaker 4 (45:00):
Change moving forward? Yeah?
Speaker 7 (45:03):
I mean bigger stars may think twice about doing what
they used to do.
Speaker 4 (45:07):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (45:08):
Absolutely, And I think that now this may be a
stretch too, but things like the Savannah Bananas, where they
lean into the entertainment side of things and they do
goofy things and they're willing to try other things, you know,
sort of even though this was a decided thing a
while ago. I feel like baseball's feeding off of those
fun theatrical antics and it works sometimes. Some of the
(45:29):
changes they've made are working. And that was when they
made a few years back that actually works.
Speaker 7 (45:34):
Oh yeah, we didn't even talk about abs and how
they used that last night and.
Speaker 4 (45:38):
Strike a ball call was over and turned first strike?
Speaker 2 (45:41):
How cool and the reaction of Edwin Diaz when he's like, no, no, no,
I think that caught the corner and like you had
did strike three.
Speaker 4 (45:49):
Very cool, Yeah, very cool to see.
Speaker 2 (45:50):
By the way, do you mind if that were incorporated
in the regular season, if each team got what would
be the let me think the balls and strike challenge
because you can't have too many because then it's sort
of game, but probably.
Speaker 4 (46:03):
Needs to be like three because because they're real quick.
Speaker 2 (46:05):
It's like Tappa the hummet and you find out within
five seconds. So I think three a game is not crazy.
Speaker 4 (46:11):
Right, I mean, who's opposed to it? Innovate or die? Right?
Speaker 2 (46:16):
You gotta you gotta evolve. The guy in the light,
the guy in the mark.
Speaker 3 (46:22):
Baseball the sport where it's it's bad to evolve.
Speaker 4 (46:26):
Who have to in today's war? Is it?
Speaker 2 (46:28):
Who's met Buken again? Ken Kyle Stowers? Stowers he saw
he did the tap and and it just caught it for.
Speaker 5 (46:37):
Strike, and he's like, ah, I think it's a I
think it's cool. I think it's he.
Speaker 3 (46:41):
Wasn't supposed to be in the swing off, like I said,
it was Eugenio Suarez, So again a guy that stepped
up he probably said, yeah, I'd do it if you
need me. But you know, I think that was a
pressure filled situation. Props again to Coulch for Warber not
trying to take anything away. Maybe the people Peter also
got host of it.
Speaker 2 (46:57):
Maybe the people that volunteered also on the flip, you know,
saying guys, I go Tani and Judge like, yeah, what's
the chances I won't do it? The guys are like, yay, yes,
sure I'll do it. Maybe those are the people, like
you said. Maybe it's like at your workplace, it's like
who wants to be the fire and marshal of this
floor of the building and then all of a sudden
someone lights something on fire in the kitchen.
Speaker 5 (47:15):
You're like, oh, man, dud I guy it signed up.
Speaker 4 (47:17):
Like so that's how it felt. Yeah, that's how it
felt exactly.
Speaker 7 (47:20):
Schwarve's on his knee for that third home run. It
was theater, the same way the night before cal Rawley
was theater. Remember when his dad turned around and it
was just all of it.
Speaker 4 (47:34):
Man, what a week for baseball.
Speaker 3 (47:35):
And by the way, we're allowed to gush. We're gushing,
I know, we sound like fanboys to the max. Baseball
had a great week. But baseball had a great week.
And how many people are quick to dump on baseball?
How many times do we say hmm as host of
a show, Yeah, let's lead with football because people get
bored with baseball talk.
Speaker 4 (47:53):
Wee we keep it real.
Speaker 7 (47:54):
And and I wasn't doing the field stuff with you
guys earlier, but I stayed, you know, in the seats,
and there were MLB executives in that row, and they
were really happy with how it turned out. But what
did we You guys said it yesterday. You thought the
home run derby was going to be the highlight, and
you said it on the air. So you're not fanboying
(48:14):
too much because you were honest on yesterday morning show
saying that, oh, home run Derby's the highlight. The game's
probably going to be boring. You said that, I did,
and I think a lot of people assume that. And
then look what happened. They do the All Star Game
better than any other sport.
Speaker 4 (48:29):
That's just a fact.
Speaker 2 (48:30):
Dandyg To wrap it up, you know again, we left
were the worst, but so did Aaron, Judge and Otani
get off us.
Speaker 7 (48:37):
And I said, there were a lot of fans I
saw leaving when it was six to three.
Speaker 4 (48:40):
Yeah, what was it like? Two things?
Speaker 2 (48:44):
When the swing off was announced and when it was
going on, and that Hank Aaron Triby.
Speaker 4 (48:49):
Got to tell him that that was beautiful.
Speaker 3 (48:51):
But yeah, what was it like when the swing off happened?
Did everybody just go nuts?
Speaker 4 (48:56):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (48:56):
At first, it was a lot of confusion, and I
saw a lot of people bus out their cell phones
trying to get the TV feed so they could.
Speaker 4 (49:03):
Have and turn the audio over, turn the volume up. Yeah.
Speaker 7 (49:07):
And then once we figured out what was going on, dude,
everybody was just so excited. And when Schwarber thought that
his third one was gonna go foul, I thought, because
the way he was leaning on his knee like that,
I thought that ball was going foul. It wasn't really
even that close.
Speaker 2 (49:23):
And the net And when they brought out the net too, like,
I'm like, what the heck? Yeah, And then I thought too,
that's a that's some decent amount of pressure too for
the pitching coaches. No, they have to not deliver in
an All Star Games.
Speaker 4 (49:35):
They didn't plan up. Yeah, but they didn't plan on that, dude.
Speaker 7 (49:38):
We didn't know who was going to be pitching either
that's the other thing, right, Yeah, I've never seen this.
Speaker 3 (49:43):
Before again three swings.
Speaker 7 (49:46):
The stadium went bananas when Schwarber hit that third one.
Speaker 4 (49:50):
Yeah, that was awesome. It really was.
Speaker 1 (49:52):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Dan
Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern six am Pacific

Thedell Star game at the home Run Derby.
Speaker 4 (50:18):
We really nerd it out. Gotta admit that.
Speaker 2 (50:20):
In fact, speaking of the Big Dumper, if you go
to at Covine on Rich, there's video of us standing
right behind him and give a cage watching him hit
some bombs during batting practice. And we did focus on
the big dumper. True, a lot of nice numbers here
in Atlanta.
Speaker 3 (50:34):
Be part of history on August second at the MLB

I by the way, I've been we made some good
MLB connections. We got to I've been to a Jake
Owen concert. Danny g I know you have as well,
great live So this is gonna be a fun evend
for MLB.
Speaker 3 (51:14):
Oh Jake owing I throw is Gary Owen your favorite comedian?
Speaker 4 (51:17):
Yeah? Jake Owen and Tim McGraw. I know, man, that's
a day.
Speaker 2 (51:23):
Uh gonna be a big deal. And listen, we've been
swinging from MLB all morning because they had a great week.
And you know what, if you're going to criticize and
be critical, and you know, can you know and I
have a theory that if you have the ability to
be tough on people when things aren't good, you got
to give them props when they deserve it. And for
all the people that love to be like yo, baseball
was boring or did this? When someone does something right,
(51:45):
you got to give him props and baseball had a
big week.
Speaker 3 (51:48):
One of Baseball's biggest criticism is how they didn't evolve. Yeah,
I mean, we saw history in the making last night
and it was exciting as could be.
Speaker 4 (51:56):
So love all the changes, win for.
Speaker 3 (51:59):
Base ball, and thank you guys for hanging out with
us Covino and Rich everything at Covino and Rich. If
you want to follow our Atlanta adventures at Covino and Rich.
If you want to hate on us, that's fine too,
as long as you listen, as long as you get involved.
Speaker 4 (52:11):
At Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (52:13):
And we we gotta go from deep to cheap, all
the cheapest.
Speaker 3 (52:18):
And it's really is our buddy. And I say this
and I mean it, our buddy. He's one of the
coolest guys we work with Ron Parker. You could work
at a place and the veterans either big time you
or treat you like like you're the man. And Rob
Parker is one of those guys. He's just down with everybody,
always having a good time. But is he a chief
skate that's really what we gotta get to or is
(52:40):
he smart? That's the question.
Speaker 4 (52:42):
Now.
Speaker 2 (52:42):
Rob Parker, a lot of people know him from ESPN,
Fox Sports over the years. He is one of the
biggest sports writers. Goes back, you know, to the eighties
with Steven a. In the early days. Rob Parker was
eighty six, the guy that covered the eighty six Mets
and he loves to talk about that. So Rob Parker,
we give him props because he's a great dude and
he's one of the shows of the Odd Couple, one
(53:04):
of the shows on Fox Sports.
Speaker 4 (53:05):
Right, and sounds like there's a butt coming, Oh there is.
Speaker 2 (53:08):
I like to do a compliment sandwich standing a big
not the big buds.
Speaker 5 (53:13):
He saw a Magic City.
Speaker 2 (53:15):
I saw him on Instagram, but no one else I
saw on his Instagram besides him outside Magic City and
in Atlanta. That for his road trip he does MLB
bro does a lot of great work with baseball, our
very own Rob Parker. Can you want to read the caption?
Speaker 3 (53:30):
He says, this is how you prepare for a cross
country trip from Atlanta to La night before you got
you go to the grocery store and buy a few
reduced price sandwiches, put them in a fridge in my
hotel room. Overnight bingo bingo at the airport. These are
sixteen dollars each. It's not being cheap, it's being smart.
(53:54):
Now these aren't even fresh sandwiches though. Oh so he's
traveling with like sandwiches that are reduced in price cause
they were sitting around.
Speaker 2 (54:00):
They were boxed at the supermarket but sat in that
like cooler for probably a day or so.
Speaker 3 (54:05):
So he's got Kuda sliders, chicken salad, yeah, for two dollars.
Each thing was two dollars and seventy cents, so he
shared it over five bucks.
Speaker 7 (54:14):
Chicken salad croissant is the other one. And we were
talking about this on the car ride over to the
iHeart studios. Here the chicken salad has mayonnaise in here, correct, Yeah,
So I.
Speaker 2 (54:24):
Mean this is a questionable choice by Rob Parker. You know,
reduced price old chicken salad. Now you would say, well,
they're going to sell it if it's old. Listen, I
will I am a man that tries to find a bargain.
Who isn't right? What man or woman isn't trying to
find a good deal. If I have people over my
house for a cookout of barbecue, my wife's grilling up
(54:46):
some stuff on her green egg and I'm doing burgers
and dogs, I will say, if I see reduced meat
and I see them doing it while I'm there, I'm like, yeah,
sell this. If it says like sell by tomorrow, I'm like,
I'm gonna cook it in an hour. Yeah I'll I'll
take some skirt steak or cheeseburgers that reduced price because
(55:06):
I'm cooking it now. I saw bacon, which is cured meat,
and it was like, yeah, they must have had too
much of a shipment.
Speaker 4 (55:12):
I saw bacon for half price.
Speaker 5 (55:14):
I'm like, I'm gonna make this tomorrow for breakfast. No
one's above that.
Speaker 2 (55:17):
You ever go to the bakery section and you see
they just mark down all like the muffins or cakes.
Speaker 3 (55:22):
Now, I know you love marked down cakes. Who doesn't
love nice, juicy glstening cakes.
Speaker 4 (55:27):
The brown The brownies don't give you salmonella though.
Speaker 3 (55:29):
Yeah, I don't know your your thoughts on this. He
just being a chief skate or is this the best
way to be? We can't say that the ween neeles
overspend and everybody's broke and then hate on a guy
for trying to save a buck.
Speaker 4 (55:41):
Rob Parker, I'm sorry to interrupt. I was just gonna say, Cove,
you got you gotta add in his flight pattern.
Speaker 3 (55:47):
Well, again he spends We've We've often behind the scenes
trying to figure this out.
Speaker 4 (55:53):
We'll ask Rob. I always see him next.
Speaker 3 (55:55):
But he's a guy that travels a lot on his
own dime, so he's kind of like budget. Everyone budgets
and prioritizes differently, right, So maybe he cuts out on
these weak ass, cheap ass meals, but he splurges at
Magic City. And it's like, you know, everyone chooses where
they spend, Like I was, find it funny, like Cavino
or his Camino Caino will spend you know, a stupid
(56:18):
amount of money on like.
Speaker 5 (56:20):
Some watch or sneakers.
Speaker 2 (56:21):
But Cavino's the guy that won't download a two dollars
app on his phone because I gotta pay for it.
Speaker 4 (56:26):
I'm not the only guy.
Speaker 2 (56:28):
Can Cano won't resubscribe to Apple TV because it's like
five bucks. Yet Cavino'll be like, yo, look at these
sweet new Jordan's I bid on.
Speaker 3 (56:37):
Right again, prioritizing differently. So maybe Rob Parker cuts corners
on things like this so that he could afford those
new Travis Scott nikes, right, so that he can get
an extra lap dance so that he can maybe splurge
for a drink on his sweet flight from Atlanta to
(56:58):
Los Angeles or whatever. Right, So what do you think
sheep bo or being smart?
Speaker 7 (57:08):
Remember, he takes Allegiant, not Allegiant he takes I'm sorry,
what's the other one?
Speaker 4 (57:13):
Your Spirit? He takes Spirit airline flights.
Speaker 7 (57:16):
And they're the airlines that charge you extra if you
breathe too many times?
Speaker 4 (57:22):
On the charge you I think if you go to
the bathroom.
Speaker 7 (57:24):
They literally they they charge you for any for any
carry on.
Speaker 2 (57:29):
Anything other than your little personal item. Yeah, and they
charge for water on.
Speaker 4 (57:33):
So is Rob's toothbrush in his pocket? Like? What about
your bathroom back?
Speaker 7 (57:37):
Because he has said on our network before that his
thing is he finds the Ross dress for less. Wherever
he flies to, he goes on to the plane with
nothing nothing.
Speaker 4 (57:48):
He said, he went like this when he told me
with his hands.
Speaker 7 (57:51):
I walk on the plane like that, And he's like,
I Land, I find my Ross dress for less. I
get a bargain outfit and I don't even care if
I don't take it back or not.
Speaker 4 (58:01):
So what does he roll back with is boxer shorts?
Speaker 2 (58:05):
That's so, let me ask you this what is it
that you Let's talk to our Dan Patrick friends. We
appreciate you hanging with Covino on Rich. It could be
sports related, it could be travel related, family related. What
is your weird thing? Like what are you willing to
spend on? But then on the flip of it, you're like, no, no, no,
I will not spend for that at all.
Speaker 5 (58:28):
And because we all have those things that you're willing
to spend.
Speaker 2 (58:31):
I mean, you pulled the Parker trick here at the
movie theater, don't you. I was just gonna say, like,
if you go to a stadium, let's say you're going
to the Yankees game, right, You're going to Dodger Stadium,
Danny g if you bring your kid, you're not gonna
pack sandwiches and juice boxes.
Speaker 4 (58:46):
Oh, definitely gonna do that.
Speaker 2 (58:47):
So isn't that essentially kind of what he's doing but
on a plane ride.
Speaker 4 (58:51):
So again, if you just joined us.
Speaker 3 (58:52):
Rob Parker of the Odd Couple here on Fox Sports
Radio posted this you can see it at Rob Parker
MLB bro on social media. He's got a reduced price
Guda sandwich. What are these gudas sliders for two dollars
and seventy cents to reduce.
Speaker 4 (59:08):
Prices because they're old.
Speaker 7 (59:09):
So that's the that's where this is different rich than us,
like making a sandwich at home for our little kid
and to.
Speaker 2 (59:15):
Reduce price chicken salad croissant for two seventy so instead
of paying sixteen bucks at the airport, he says, look
five bucks for the ride home.
Speaker 3 (59:23):
That's how you do it. I'm not cheap, I'm smart.
Speaker 4 (59:26):
You know what.
Speaker 5 (59:27):
They're not going to sell it, are they? If it's bad.
Speaker 4 (59:29):
I mean, they probably just got to get rid of it.
Speaker 2 (59:31):
I mean, like listen, like I said, there have been
times where I have people over quite a bit for barbecues.
If I go to the supermarket and I see you
know clearly sometimes supermarkets over order, right, you've seen this right.
Speaker 5 (59:41):
Sometimes they don't have something.
Speaker 2 (59:43):
Other times they're like why would hot dogs be three
dollars instead of six?
Speaker 5 (59:47):
Because they must have a lot of inventory. Okay, but
tack advantage of that.
Speaker 7 (59:52):
Say he's got a long uber ride from his Atlanta
hotel to the airport, or chicken sandwich and then the
airport's hot inside at the terminal hot chicken. Sound yeah,
So maybe they sell it and it's not bad yet,
but by the time he arrives to his gate, it
might be bad.
Speaker 3 (01:00:06):
Yeah, that sandwich is sitting around in his bag that
whole time. That's also kind of odd. I agree with that.
You know, maybe younger generations could take a page out
of the Rock Parker book, because you sometimes need to
be a bowler on a budget to be able to
do the things you want to do and not.
Speaker 2 (01:00:24):
Feel guilty about it. All right, I'll give you one
and we all have them. What are you willing to
spend money on? And what do you a cheap skate on.
I'll give you this. I'm more than willing to overspend
him buy Starbucks or cocktails at a bar without even
thinking about it. You go to Vegas, you go to
an event, twenty dollars old fashions or vodka, sodas or
(01:00:47):
fifteen bucks. You go to Starbucks six seven dollars or
a coffee. I don't even think about it twice. But
if I'm looking by just like a basic T shirt,
I'm going to Target and getting like a good fellow
eight to ten dollars T shirt. If I see a
designers when I'm wearing now it's Banana Republic Costco. I
got it at Costco. How would you overspend on a
(01:01:08):
T shirt? But it's like plain t s but on
back coving up he dresses well. But I can never
Sometimes you go to a department store and you're like,
the designer T shirt for eighty bucks.
Speaker 4 (01:01:19):
I'm like, I could see you do that.
Speaker 3 (01:01:21):
Two hundred dollars plain John Varvado's T shirt.
Speaker 4 (01:01:24):
That's the point of that.
Speaker 7 (01:01:25):
That's because you could dress up a generic T shirt
with the rest of your wardrobe.
Speaker 3 (01:01:30):
That is where I cut the biggest corner. You know,
you try to look good. You want to look good, right,
but who wants to overspend on a regular.
Speaker 2 (01:01:37):
Designer plane T shirt? You get that, and you get
that old Navy I'll give you one. I think it's
a lot of times you're you're disgusted on it not
being something you're excited about. It's just more functional. Like
to me, I'm taking my kids to their first Mets
game at City Field on Friday. I went all out
and we're like sitting right behind the Mets dugout ticket
(01:01:59):
price doesn't you know what does though? Parking at the
stadium and rental car that drives me bonkers. The fact
that one hundreds of dollars to rent the car and
park will eat it me.
Speaker 4 (01:02:12):
But the few hundred dollars a ticket, I'm like, I
got it.
Speaker 7 (01:02:14):
It's you.
Speaker 2 (01:02:16):
We're all different in these ways, but it was just funny.
We think we would bring it up real quick finding
the balance. Yeah, our buddy Rob Parker will let you
decide chicken salad sandwich with two bucks.
Speaker 5 (01:02:26):
I don't know if that's why you spend your money.
Speaker 4 (01:02:28):
We work with the guys, so we're not going to
say your cheap skate. I mean we might.
Speaker 2 (01:02:32):
We're gonna let you say it on his social media.
Speaker 5 (01:02:35):
Page at Rob park mal b bro.
Speaker 2 (01:02:39):
But if you read the comments, he's getting Destroyedsteners.
Speaker 4 (01:02:44):
People are giving them the business.
Speaker 2 (01:02:45):
They're definitely give them the Businessess, that's a great phrase,
giving him the business. Remember that was it a referee
that give a penalty for the business six on offense?
Speaker 4 (01:02:57):
He's giving them the business giving him. We're giving Ron
Parker the business.
Speaker 3 (01:03:01):
Although we understand right, because you got to balance out
your life and your budget. What a cheap skate. This
guy spends money. You should see his sneakers. He comes
in and he's rocking his weak ass low budget sandwich. Hey,
he's the guy sitting on a plane eating those sticking
up the airplane.
Speaker 5 (01:03:20):
That's hard, but think about it, everyone's got that thing,
you know.
Speaker 2 (01:03:23):
You definitely know a guy that's buying a thousand dollars
golf club, but he like, he won't buy sneaker, He
buys like generic sneakers, but he has every golf club
he has with one thousand dollars.
Speaker 5 (01:03:36):
So you see it all the time.
Speaker 2 (01:03:39):
Any examples, Hey, we'll chop it up at Covino and Rich.
Now coming up, we have midweek major Spot's going to
give you the hottest stories in the world of sports
and entertainment. But I do have one quick hypothetical for
you guys. Nothing to really do with sports, but I
am I said, I Am going to New York this Friday.
I'm so excited to see. Remember the pack is prying sandwiches.
(01:04:01):
I'm gonna I'm gonna see. I'm gonna see if they
have what's a good thing. Do you think they might
have some three day old salmon the supermarket I can bring.
Speaker 4 (01:04:07):
On the plane with.
Speaker 2 (01:04:10):
Yeah, yeah, did you guys have do you guys have
any sushi? Do you know, like bargain sushi at the
local store. So I'm flying to New York because we
did the All Star Game. We didn't know we were
doing that. So my wife is flying from Los Angeles
with the kids. We're having a fun week, fun long
weekend in New York. We're back next week. I arrive
(01:04:31):
at the airport two hours before my family. Their flight
got a little delayed. Do I have to hang at
the airport and wait for them? Or do I just
or do I just be like you have two rug
rats if your wife is rolling solown woman.
Speaker 5 (01:04:48):
At the hotel, but because she got the two kids with.
Speaker 3 (01:04:50):
Her, all the bags and everything, find the massage place
in the airport?
Speaker 5 (01:04:57):
Do they do the Oh no, like a religion massage.
Speaker 4 (01:05:01):
It was a joke.
Speaker 5 (01:05:03):
But yeah, two hours and watch Oh you know what
I'll do?
Speaker 2 (01:05:05):
Maybe I'll watch a quarterback on Netflix, or sit.
Speaker 4 (01:05:10):
Around, maybe go to the bar. I don't know. Did you
finish Squid game? I did? Oh you did? Yeah? Yeah,
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (01:05:16):
Go to the Can you go see Superman to come back?
Speaker 5 (01:05:19):
I'm just gonna be sitting at JFK.
Speaker 2 (01:05:20):
So if you if you're a JFK to and you
see me sitting around like a dope. I think you
have to have yeah, because you know what that gets doing.
Your wife's not one of those, but it's the type
of thing that gets doing in your face.
Speaker 4 (01:05:31):
Yeah. And I had the kids and all the bags
and you went home.
Speaker 5 (01:05:36):
Yeah, I guess.
Speaker 4 (01:05:37):
I guess I won't go to Hotel.
Speaker 2 (01:05:38):
Seven ninety nine. On Fox, we want to chime in
on that. Well, you know people are chiming in. Let's
say hi to Dan in Michigan. Dan, you're all with
Kevin and rich In for DP. We were just you know,
making fun of our buddy Rob Parker, giving him the business.
What do you save money on? But yet you're willing
to spend on something else? What do you got buddy?
Speaker 8 (01:05:54):
Hey, guys, I'll tell you what I always spend money on.
Speaker 10 (01:05:57):
I will never not pay for the fast at Disney Universal,
et cetera. Thank you, dude.
Speaker 2 (01:06:05):
I'm telling you I did that for the first time
a while back. And I'm not saying I'm not acting
like a baller. But if you do have the money
to spend that you put away for a vacation with
your kids, you have to.
Speaker 3 (01:06:16):
Reserve those at Disney now though, right, like a few
days before, like time it out.
Speaker 2 (01:06:20):
We can't just roll up with the fast pass. But yeah,
they're like a day or soon event. But there's something
a lightning pass at Disney. It's called like the Lightning
Extreme or something whatever it was. It was it was overpriced,
but if you got little kids and you could skip
every line.
Speaker 5 (01:06:35):
So I don't think there's a price tag on that.
Speaker 2 (01:06:37):
I think that I think that is that is absolutely
something reduced lightning pass two dollars and seventy cents.
Speaker 4 (01:06:46):
I ain't paying that. Ron Parker probably has.
Speaker 2 (01:06:51):
All right, Well, your thoughts will get your feedback at
Covin and Rich. And like I said, coming up our
buddy spot our video guy, you think Parker brings his
own like giant turkey leg to the theme park?
Speaker 4 (01:07:03):
You know how?
Speaker 5 (01:07:04):
Like you sure you can't bring that in?
Speaker 1 (01:07:07):
What do you want?
Speaker 4 (01:07:07):
Twelve dollars here? I got this one at Rounds for
three bucks. I got a good deal on this one.
Speaker 2 (01:07:14):
Byot bring your own turkey leg.
Speaker 3 (01:07:19):
He brings his own big giant lollipops because the ones
at Disney are too expensive. He brings his own candy
Apple brings Mickey ears.
Speaker 2 (01:07:27):
It's too expensive here Mickey's prices are too high.
