Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports. What's going on? Everybody? Hope
you're enjoying your Saturday evening. You know, big Man, the
last time we were on the show, we were watching
Gonzaga and U c l A and A barn Burner,
And just as I told you, Gonzaga would win that game,
you know, never a doubt. Man. First of all, cut

(00:23):
it out, Okay, cut it out. Okay, that's disturbing that
you come on here like that, because, uh, you know
all I. All I asked you at the beginning of
last week's show was come with that same energy, right

(00:46):
all right, come with that same energy that you had
prior to that U. C l A. Gonzaga game. Remember that, Well,
it's impossible to have the same energy. I thought that
Gonzaga was gonna be up by twenty four at halftime,
and then when it's a one possession game at the end,
I can't have the same energy. It's impossible. And that's
why I was saying, you can't just randomly say things,

(01:10):
right you you really thought first of all, you you
counter argued yourself, Okay, I had the right, Yeah, based
on what you said about the first game with Baylor
in Houston. Then yes, U c l A had a

(01:30):
better shot and the game would have been better based
on them having a tougher role, beating the number two
and the number one seed. I learned not to argue
with myself. Yeah, I learned a valuable lesson, But my
logic is championship level. I can't argue with myself. You're
so contrary. You couldn't even listen to what I was

(01:52):
trying to tell you because you didn't want any part. Now, no, now,
I wasn't having it. I thought U c l A
Was gonna get rolled. Props to them. That was a class,
great game, great Saturday. It feels like something's missing today,
doesn't it. The tournament was really really good, and especially
not having it last year, it was you know you
didn't We always appreciated it, but not having it made

(02:16):
you appreciate it even more. Well. Yeah, especially my team,
the third best team in the in the nation last year.
I'll never get over it. I mean, that might have
been the one time, right, that might have been the
time that we could have done something. But but what
if the aztects the true Syracuse Last year we had
a better team, much much better shooting, team, it would

(02:38):
have worked out well. You had a first round draft pick,
like literally, he was the first round draft pick. So Dad,
you know that even stings out for us a little sure,
but hey, that was then. That was then. This is
now what we have right now, the Masters. We've got
the Masters going on. It was halfway funny me halfway

(03:01):
where there was a weather delay and immediately with Tiger
Woods not being involved in this year's Masters due to
the car wreck back in February, they went right back
to twenty nineteen and Tiger Woods is on my TV set.
You know, I'm like Tigers Still. We found a way
to get Tiger into this year's Masters. Um at least

(03:23):
it was a replay from a couple of years ago.
But it just it doesn't roll off the tongue. Listen
to this you from this is from Sirius XM Radio.
We've got Headeki matsu Yama leading the field right now.
Like see if this highlight grabs you at all? Back
here to Gusta National Hedecky maziam on two ft for
the Round of the Week seven under part Yeah, I

(03:48):
don't know you you grabbed by that at all? Or no? No,
I forgot the Masters. Well, so I just h I
just com forgot that. The Yeah, hey hey man, I
get it. I understand it. Tiger is not there, and
we've talked about it. Tiger Woods hmm, yeah, I know.

(04:12):
They're just absolutely irate at him and his speeding. Like
we're talking about last week where the CBS suits that
had the n C double a National Championship game where
they did a Tiger Woods fist pump when it was
Gonzaga undefeated against Baylor. That's a sexy matchup. It was

(04:34):
the opposite when Tiger was involved in that car wreck
and you worry about as well being first and foremost,
but then you get to, oh my gosh, he's not
going to compete in the Masters. This sucks. So the
CPS XAX was much different with the Tigers. Okay, great
is he can he can he play surgery that has

(04:59):
a bad ring to it, you know, but no Tiger
this year unfortunately. Now before we get to uh an
NFL draft, myth, I would like to throw your way,
how about this about Tiger where we finally we took
the scenic route to figure out what happened during the wreck.

(05:19):
So the authorities did their investigation. They said, the material
is private, so we're not going to release it unless
Tiger gives us the go ahead. And so Tiger did
and it was released and while he was going too
fast shocking, Like I don't know why it was. So
it was so strange the whole investigation, so many factors,

(05:41):
so many parts of this thing where I don't know
what was so sensitive about Tiger going way too fast.
That was strange to me. Well, they didn't want to
put it out there on list, you know, I think
that's just protocol, no matter what the the information is.
You know, if he wasn't breaking the law, it wasn't
anything criminal. Uh So they wanted to make sure that

(06:02):
they can really get Remember the sheriff department out here
just being sued, just lost a uh um a suit
are a notion to dismiss with Vanessa Bryant. Right, So
somebody at leaked the got awful photos of the Kobe

(06:28):
Bryant crash. Right. So, you know, these police departments have
protocol they have to strictly adhered to. And if someone
is you know, releasing information without the okay of the
parties involved, and that's not that's not right. I don't know, man,

(06:48):
it just seemed like Tiger got the star treatment on
this one. Well, I can't. I can't imagine Joe Blow,
random dude driving as fast as eight seven and forty
five where the authorities are like, this is sensitive material.
Unless he says we can release it, we are not
going to or more so where Tiger he was asked

(07:10):
if he was under the influence and he's like nah,
and the authorities are like, cool, sounds good, we want
to investigate that anymore. Tiger thought this was what broke
the other day. Tiger thought that he was in Florida
when he was actually in California. Now he hit a
tree going about seventy five miles per hour, so he
might not have had his barons. Yeah, it very well

(07:33):
could have been that. But it's just strange to me
that the authorities would be like, are you under the influence.
He's like nah, They're like, cool, sounds good. Really that's
how it goes every time. Well, I hope, So maybe
maybe that's a shift. Maybe maybe when brothers get in
trouble with the cops, maybe we're going in the right direction.
Now we could just be taking it face value for

(07:55):
a word, Well, just anybody under the sun that's typically
not it goes down. Yeah, okay, I've got some I've
got an NFL Draft myth to throw your way, big man.
I was thinking about this. I'm Brian though he's from
salam here on Fox Sports Radio. So I'm looking at
the Denver Broncos in the NFL Draft. They have the

(08:16):
ninth overall pick, and we know that they need a quarterback.
You're not a Drew lock guy, are You can think
he's the franchise guy. I don't either, so they need
a quarterback. It made me think, just the way the
week is playing out, I'll hear this a lot. Unless
the Broncos are in love with the quarterback, or not
even necessarily the Broncos, any team that needs a quarterback,

(08:39):
unless they're in love with the quarterback, don't draft that quarterback.
I completely disagree with that. If you take the Broncos specifically,
if Justin Fields from Ohio State is still around, he's around,
he's still available the seventh overall pick, like around where
the Broncos are drafting. Even if they don't love the guy,

(09:00):
draft him anyway. You might be wrong. Just because you
love a player doesn't mean he's gonna pay out. And
just because you aren't in love with the player doesn't
mean that he's just gonna be average. Right. There are
plenty of times that you're wrong, your evaluation is off.
And being in the same division as Patrick Mahomes, you
have to have a franchise quarterback. I am of the mindset,

(09:21):
big man, even if you aren't in love with the quarterback,
if you desperately need one, take a stab at it. Well,
and normally that would be my sentiment. But what the
Denver Broncos cannot do is they can't take a stab
at quarterbacks anymore because they failed year in and year

(09:42):
out stabbing at quarterbacks. They're all stabbed out right there.
They're all stabbed out, and I think that they realize
that and they understand. Look, if you can't trade down
own to get the guy you want, the one you

(10:02):
know it's going to be there for the next decade,
jobs are on the line if you can't, especially if
you're an all time great quarterback, Hall of Fame quarterback
and you can't seem to find our evaluate a player

(10:27):
at the quarterback position. What are we doing? And they've missed?
They got Peyton Manning right one year, one and a
half years right with Peyton Manning, and after that it's
been abysmal. So they can't just take a stab. They

(10:47):
need they need a bona fide win in the first round.
I'm starting the hashtag movement keep stabbing. I hear you.
I understand everything that you're saying. But you can't play
it safe. You can't sit here and be like, we
screwed it up with Paxton Lynch, Trevor Simeon, didn't work out,
didn't work freaked out? Now, keep stabbing. Didn't didn't didn't.

(11:10):
They stab at um Um the Baltimore quarterback uh what's
his name? Won the Super Bowl with him? Uh oh
oh oh yeah yeah. Joe Flacco. Joe Flacco. Yeah he
was there. Stab did Joe Flacco? That's not a real
stabbing stab? How much that that that that was bargain

(11:36):
basement stabbing? Again, it was a stab? Yeah, that was like, Nah,
anything they do at the quarterback position is a stab.
That stab didn't even draw blood. That's not a real
stab with Joe Flack. And they didn't have any hoop
dreams of him being their franchise. They thought he could

(11:57):
win some games for him keep stabbing, is what I say.
No you have now you brought up Peyton Manning. Give
you a great stat here. So Peyton Manning he threw
a hundred and forty touchdown passes for the Broncos in
four seasons. Since then, Denver quarterbacks have combined for four

(12:19):
touchdowns in five seasons. So think about that one more
season than Peyton Manning fewer touchdown passes. That's how bad
it's been since Peyton In the same division as Mahomes.
You have to find your franchise guy, and you're not
gonna find him by playing it safe. But you can't

(12:41):
keep stabbing. So I'll say, if there is a bona
fide linebacker or edge rusher at that spot, you're gonna
stab at a quarterback and not at someone who can
get to the actual opposing quarterbacks. Hashtag keep stabbing, hashtag
prison time Right more you stab more chances you are

(13:05):
going to prison right hashtag uh criminality? Hashtag are you
going to jail? Hashtag Mahomes. You gotta find someone that's
going to compete in that division with that guy, and
Drew Lock is not here, you might not be able
to find him stabbing, though you got it you stab

(13:26):
in the third rounds on you can you can't stab
in the first round, can't. You gotta be sure and
can you should? No, there's no way to be sure.
That's my whole thing. You can't be sure on Justin Fields.
He can't be sure on Trey Lance. He can't be
sure on Mac Jones. But well, that goes to your

(13:47):
scouting department. That goes to your personnel play, a personnel expert.
Like if you just so, That's what I'm saying. If
you continue to stab in this the people you have
in place, including yourself, are not doing the right job.

(14:08):
So guess what the owner decides to do. You gotta
take big swings. I hear you. I definitely hear everything
you're saying. That makes sense. But but here's the thing.
You can't play it safe in that division with Mahomes.
You're gonna be out of a job that way. Also,
so I would rather give it a shot. I'm rolling
the dice over here. I'm not gonna sit here and
and have the dice in my hand and like I

(14:29):
don't want to throw him. You're gonna lose that way anyway.
I'm gonna throw the dice and it might work out
for me. Don't stab Just get the right guy. That's
what I'm saying. You're saying, even if it's not the
right guy, just get him and see. You know I'm saying,
even if it's someone you don't love, don't don't get
into this business. Yeah, we don't love it. I don't care.
He might be your guy anyway. That's like the forty

(14:51):
nine is talking about drafting Matt Jones. I think that
the rules if they get Matt Jones. I know that offense.
I've been in that office. That that's an you want
a little more mobility. He's not. He's not the guy
you don't want the iron deer back. No, no no, no, no,
let's talk about him coming up next year. We gotta
get to old mac Jones. And also, are the Nets

(15:15):
on track to steal a page from the Warriors? We'll explain.
I'm Brian, though he's e from Salam. This is Fox
Sports Radio. I'm Brian. No, he's he from Salam. Here
on Fox Sports Radio. All right, big man, I think
the Nets could be on track to steal a page
from the Warriors. Meaning this, There are a couple of

(15:38):
commonly held beliefs about the Warriors before they want a championship,
where a team couldn't win a title shooting that many
jump shots. It's a very popular theory. Charles Barkley was
spearheading that movement, I guess, and then the Warriors want
a title, and then they picked up k D and
won a couple more titles. But that was a commonly

(16:01):
held belief and it was proven to not be the case.
When you have the Splash Brothers in a great defense,
you can win a championship. If you look at the Nets.
It's different in terms of the formula, but it's the
same concept. For a long time, it's been widely believed
that a team can't be at the bottom in defense

(16:21):
and win a championship, and the numbers would back that up.
The past twenty NBA champions have all ranked eleven or
better in defensive efficiency. But the Nets are so good offensively,
I don't think their horror defense is even gonna matter
when it comes right down to it. Yeah, the problem
with not being able to play some form of defense

(16:44):
is on the one or two chances you do have
off nights, which happens. Not being able to stop someone
can shift a series in their favor mhm. Right, So
that's why the court gets smaller, adjustments get tighter in
the playoffs, and the good teams they make adjustments, they

(17:07):
run people off the three point line, all of those
types of things, and if you can't you don't have
an answer for them, then that's when the problem happens
to The thing about Golden State was there were such
a good defensive team as well. Right, Yeah, they shot
a lot of jumpers, but they also had guys who
can who can stop you mhm. They had a rim protector,

(17:32):
they had Draymond Green, one of the best defensive players
in the game. They had Clay Thompson making his uh,
willing to get better on the defensive side of the ball,
and so igu dolla you look at Yeah, they were
great jump shooting team, but they also went top five

(17:53):
in defense as well. That's why that was a perfect
storm and that worked well. Case in point. Let's look
at Houston. Houston had all the shooters in the world.
Let the league in attempts and makes all of these things.
James Harden, Chris part they had everybody. Everybody on the
team could shoot threes. What happened in the playoffs what

(18:15):
has happened in the playoffs every single year. At some
point you're going to have to stop people and get rebounds.
And if you're just focusing on scoring you got in
the playoffs, it's just a different ball game. I hear you.
But we gotta read the fine print on the Houston

(18:36):
Rockets as well, where Chris Paul blew attire that was
a big deal. And also I don't see the Nets
having an over cold streak from three. They're just they're
too good offensively to be you cold for that extended
of a period, you know. But before Houston went that cold,
you would say the same thing. But they didn't have

(18:58):
k D and Kyrie No. You know how good their
offense was, but they didn't have the superstar talent the nuts. Still,
that's just like when you watch the Clippers and then
you see him in the playoffs, you would say, well,
you know, Paul George and um Kauai shoot uh, you know,
overt from the three point line. But come playoffs, the

(19:22):
guys throwing it off the side of the backboard, right like.
So it's it's easy to say, well, those guys can shoot,
those guys can score, that's great, But when you find
yourself against a top team in the in a in
a seven game series. That team is a top team
for a reason. They're going to make adjustments. They're going

(19:44):
to make you uncomfortable. If your answer is keep poisting it,
keep putting it up, the shots get tougher. The only
person on that team that can really shoot over and
get his own shot every single time down the court
would be KD because he's seven ft tall. So if

(20:06):
you had to say today, who's gonna win a championship
this year? Who are you going with? The Brooklyn Nets
have a great opportunity to do that. They're just stacked.
I would say Brooklyn, Lakers, and Utah are my top
three teams did have a shot to win the win,

(20:27):
win the title. And that's and you know, I'm a
Laker fan, so I know, Okay, let's whittle it down
to one. Who's the team? April ten, the salam Crystal
Ball says, I'll say this, I think if it's Utah
and the Lakers in the Western Conference Finals, I'll take
the Lakers over Utah and then we got you two,
I mean the Lakers and Brooklyn in the finals. I mean,

(20:49):
there's no way I can if the Lakers are there,
I'm going with the Lakers. Bro, That's just that's just
what it is. I'll go with I'll go with Nets
against anybody else from the West. Okay, all right, just
not the Lakers, not the King Champs, Lakers Lebron in
the finals. I just you know, we can at least
agree on this. I would actually take the Nets right now.

(21:12):
We don't agree on that part, but this part we
can agree on. To even have the discussion that the
Nets are going to be that much of a title threat,
it shows how it has shifted the thinking where normally
you have to be at least average. The last twenty
NBA champions have ranked eleventh or better in defensive efficiency.

(21:35):
As I said before, the Nets are one of the
worst teams in the league. Normally, it'd be a rap
if you're that bad defensively, but it's not for them.
That's just how potent they are offensively. They've been blowing
teams out with one or two stars out of the lineup.
I've been crushing people. So they're gonna be nasty, man,

(21:55):
Yeah they are. They're gonna be great, and it's gonna
be fantastic. I can't wait, I can't wait. You know
what else I can't wait for? Let me guess, no,
you what what can't you wait for? I can't wait
for another award winning update from a friend of America,
the man who knows a lot about a lot. We

(22:20):
changed the saying because this guy knows all and his
name is Steve the Seger. Good evening, gentlemen, and I
too was looking forward to the game in the NBA
on paper, at least Lakers at Brooklyn starts in a
few minutes. Let's just deal with the facts, though, although
Kevin Durandy is starting tonight and Kyrie Irving, LaMarcus Aldridge
starting too for that matter, for the Lakers, not only

(22:42):
out Lebron James with the ankle sprain, Anthony Davis out
with the strain calf, Kyle Kuzma out tonight with a
strain calf, Marc Gasol out with a sore hamstring, Wesley
Matthews out with a tight achill him Taylor Horton Tucker
is starting for the Lakers tonight along with Mark Kith
Morris and other and Andre Drummond is starting. But there
is your matchup tonight. I saw Anthony Davis just taking

(23:05):
some warm up jump shots, Steve and therefore getting closer
to recovery. He can shoot a basketball in his driveway. Okay,
we're just about there. The first game tonight in the
NBA has a Toronto team that is missing Kyle Lowry
and so you mentioned Malachi Flynn. He's starting tonight seven points,

(23:27):
five assists in the first half of the Raptors. They
are shooting seventy seven percent from the floor in the
first half at Cleveland. We still have almost four minutes
left in the first half. The Raptors lead seventy six
to forty four over the Calves. The Raptors, if they
make their next shot, they'll be thirty of thirty eight
in the first half. Gary Trent Jr. Is nine of nine,

(23:48):
including five of five from three point range. He has
twenty five in the first half, set four. Now about
three minutes left in the first half for the Raptors. Wow.
Coming up in a half an hour. It's Philadelphia at
Oklahoma City. There seven NBA games tonight. Alex Rodriguez is
negotiating to buy the Minnesota Timberwolves along with e commerce

(24:09):
executive Mark Laurie. The two of them they have a
thirty day window for exclusive negotiations. According to the athletic owner,
Glenn Taylor's preparing to step aside after twenty seven years.
The deal is the pair wouldn't take over control of
the Timberwolves for another couple of years. If the deal
is finalized, they would start as limited partners in the
NHL Dallas and Philadelphia, with wins in MLB Kansas City

(24:32):
at the White Sox reigined out. They'll play a double
hitter in mid May Toronto's home game against the Angels
in a long rain to lay it to start. They're
hoping to start in the next half hour. Chance of
rain all day tomorrow as well in Dunedin, Florida. That's
the home for the Blue Chays home games, their spring
training site these first couple of months of the season,
and then Toronto's home games will be at Triple A Buffalo.

(24:53):
Seattle was a ten ending winner at Minnesota four to
three Milwaukee and nine five winner at St. Louis. The
lost to Carlo Martinez, who's O and two with an
ERA of over six. Early season San Francisco edge Colorado
four to three. Jake McGee with his fourth save already
in the FS one game this afternoon. Oakland was a
seventh three winner at Houston. Tampa Bay beat the Yankees

(25:14):
for nothing, losing Picture Domingo Rman owing to e r
A of nine, and he was sent down after the game.
Miami was one and six this year, but shut out
the Mets three nothing. Jacob deGrom took the loss. Do
you know in the last four years, the Mets are
thirty six and forty two in his starts. It doesn't
matter how great this guy is. They didn't score for

(25:36):
him at all. Again today these era is microscopic in
his no decisions, and he was actually hung with the
l in this one. The late game in baseball will
be in a half an hour. Washington one and three
playing at the Dodgers six and two, and US women's
soccer was on Fox TV today. It tied its exhibition.
It was fortunate to do so. At Sweden. One won
the final thanks to Omegan Rapino penalty kick in the

(25:58):
eighty seven minute. The Americans still haven't lost in their
last thirty eight games. The US had been sixteen and
oh under the new coach. The US record is eighteen
straight wins. The US will now play Tuesday at France,
the site of its last loss to open. Since then,
the American women thirty four and oh with four ties.
The Olympic Tournament, with only twelve teams, starts in July

(26:20):
in Tokyo. We're back to the show in ten seconds. First,
a word from Mako was full of Ding's dens and scratches.

(26:41):
Steve to Sega on Brian No, he's e from salam
Here on Fox Sports Radio. We're talking about Mac Jones
a little bit ago. We wanted to circle back to that.
It doesn't sound like you're a huge Mac Jones guy.
Is that true for let's say the Niners at number
three overall? Would you make of all this hype for
Mac go to San France? No? I think that just

(27:03):
based on what I know about the offense, what I
know about Kyle Shanahan, what he likes to do offensively,
especially at the quarterback position. Nothing about stiff legs says Okay,
that's gonna work. It's just an offense based on run
and and run fakes, play action, deep long face play

(27:27):
actions where the quarterback must get outside the pocket, shift
the field. Uh, for those crossing rounds, those you know,
two level crossing rounds, shallow cross and then the deep
cross and if you know, if they can't, if they
pick him, he's not gonna be able to do past
fourteen man our past fifteen man, which is a huge,

(27:49):
huge play in that style of offense, because he's gonna
get killed. One of my favorite things from mac Owns.
He said, well, I wasn't expected to use my mobility
at Alabama, so I didn't. I didn't really have to
showcase that. It's like, dude, we've seen you not be

(28:11):
able to move. It's not just because of Alabama. It's
just you can't move. That's the whole thing here. Yeah,
It's like, look, you know, you got a nice arm,
you can slaying the ball, and you have to be
able to understand what your limitations are, what you excel it,
the things that you don't excel it. Um, he's not

(28:36):
gonna get to the league and get more athletic. No,
it doesn't work like that. The other side, though, is
think about Kyle Shanahan with the Falcons when they should
have won a Super Bowl and Matt Ryan is not
exactly known for his mobility. So it can work. But
to your point, it is an ideal. In that offense,
you are limited and you can't unlock the entire playbook

(28:58):
if you have a quarter accu stationary back there. Yeah,
it's you know, it's only certain things you can you
can get away with. Now. Granted, um, they had Julio Jones,
that best receiver in the game. That makes it a
lot different. Um, roddy right, they had they had a
core of receivers young and old that took the pressure

(29:23):
off Matt Ryan, as well as two running backs that
were paid top dollar. Right Now, you get into a
situation like that, you're like, okay, okay, all right, But
outside of that, yeah, look, I'm extremely interested to see
what San Francisco does with that third pick. I am too.

(29:46):
Maybe they're posturing, maybe they're just throwing his name out there.
You know, it's really those picks back to back in
my mind, because it looks like we know that's gonna
be Trevor Lawrence number one. Looks like it's gonna be
Zach Wilson number two to the Jets. Then it gets interesting.
Who did the Niners take and what do the Falcons
do a number four? Did they go with a quarterback?

(30:08):
Do they look for the future or do they build
around Matt Ryan. So those two teams, Niners and Falcons,
back to back, I can't wait to see what they do. Yeah,
it's it's it's gonna be exciting. It's gonna be exciting.
And you know, this is a big, big, big move,
a big draft, and a big pick for the San

(30:28):
Francisco Forts. Oh my gosh. Yeah. Right, for two reasons.
If I'm Jimmy Garoppolo and they draft Jones, I'm like, okay, okay, good,
all right, this may work out in my favor. Really,
I think it's the opposite. This is why I love

(30:50):
doing a show with Hue from because if we thought
the same way be a boring show. I think that
Mac Jones, although his ceiling isn't as high as some
of the other guys say, like Trey Lance, I think
that he's more NFL ready than Trey Lance right now.
So I think that if you draft Mac Jones, you're

(31:10):
looking to ready for start him more games than maybe
somebody else his rookie season. The thing in the NFL
is you're going to be under pressure. If you can't
escape that pressure, there's going to be a problem. Now

(31:35):
they're outliers. Peyton Manning was an outlier, um By Brady.
Tom Brady is an outlier right the but their trigger
was so fast, their knowledge of the game, of their offense,
of opposing defenses were so great. They can manipulate it

(31:58):
and knew exactly where the ball all was supposed to go.
And seconds a young quarterback coming in trying to figure
out on his own how to decipher if it's zone
man cover two, three four, Tampa two. When you trade

(32:22):
it up from twelve to three, which includes a couple
of first rounders, and all that pressure comes along with
it too, boy like this is this is It's not
a game. Yeah. And if I'm Jimmy Garoppolo and they
bring on the old Iron Deer, it's so funny. That's
what we used to call Sage Rosenfeld in Houston, the
Iron Deer stage consplain that thing. I love stage former

(32:47):
Dolphins Cube shout out. I think this draft, big man,
I'm branding it that you should have draft it is
just shaping up that way where three years from now,
based on the results that we don't know for sure
are gonna happen, we're gonna look back and act like
we knew exactly what was going to happen, and it's

(33:08):
gonna be Niners you should have drafted whoever. Broncos you
should have done this. Falcons, you should have done that.
With all these quarterbacks, we could have five quarterbacks go
in the top ten. When you have that many quarterbacks
in the mix, it just lends itself to Carolina, you
should have done this instead of go with Sam Donald

(33:28):
Team X. You should have done that. Like, I think
it's shaping up to be that type of draft more
than many others. Yeah, it definitely is, because, um, there's
so many eyes on what you should and what what
you should do and what people think you should do. Mhm.

(33:50):
And it's been uh a carousel of quarterbacks. So you
know it's gonna shake out. We're gonna see how this
thing unfolds. Oh man, it's gonna be. It really is,
and not just for less than three weeks from now,
We're talking the next decade. All these dudes are gonna

(34:11):
be compared to each other think about the quarterback draft
of how we still compare all of those things. So
this one it's shaping up to be like that and
maybe even more. Oh yeah with was it nine with
McNabb and uh Dante Colepepper and the other three hacks.

(34:33):
That's like the ones that didn't fan out? Who what
was that? The Tim Couch Draft with Achille Smith. Achille
is a great dude, former Ducks quarterback. He's on my
local show from time to time. Awesome dude, loves Velvita cheese.
Shout out to Achille Smith. Speaks high to your character
if you like velvita cheese. And also Cade McNown and

(34:54):
Kay didn't quite work out and take that velvita boy, man,
you bulletproof at that stage, all right? Coming up next,
the decision this guy made is even more baffling. Now,
I'm Brian No, he'sy from Salam This is Fox Sports Radio.
I'm Brian No. He's E from Salam. Here on Fox

(35:17):
Sports Radio. So Juju Smith, Schuster, Steelers receiver, re signed
with Pittsburgh. He was on the Michael Irvin podcast Big Man,
and he revealed if he did not re sign with
the Steelers, he would have been going to the Chiefs,
which backs the question why didn't you go there? Anyway? Right,

(35:39):
why why are you in Pittsburgh instead of Kansas City.
But before we weigh in on this, let's hear from
Juju on the Michael Irvin podcast. These are the reasons
why he decided to stay with the Steelers, being somewhere
in atmosphere and environment, knowing where the team knows you,
they know your history, they know you, know what how
you are, how to use your stuff like that, so
you know, coming back can on that. I would have

(36:01):
been back for warmer year and you know, playing you
know my last year it was just like, yo, I'm
gonna take my chance. I'm gonna play the band. Okay.
He also talked about the Ravens, who offered him a contract,
and he said, Lamar's a really heavy run offense with
backs that he has. His number one target was Mark Andrews,

(36:24):
who's a tight end. So Juju wasn't too hot on
the idea of going to the Ravens. That makes sense
to me. I get why you don't go to the
Ravens to run heavy offense divisional rival, but not going
to the Chiefs doesn't make sense to me. I'm still
scratching my head over that. That makes no sense to anyone. Um,
better team, better quarterback, mhm, better opportunity, more money, yea

(36:54):
as well, so check check check right across the board. Right.
I don't know. I don't know how you walk away
from that job. I don't either, because this is most
likely Big Ben's final season in the NFL. And how
do we know that the Chiefs are gonna want juju?

(37:15):
You know what I mean? Like that could have been.
I'm sure that ship has sailed. Yeah, I don't know
that you want to let that, let that opportunity go.
You want you to run it back with Big Ben
one more year. You want to lock in with the
team that has the quarterback that's gonna be there for
a decade, not three months. I'm sorry, that just all right?

(37:38):
If if, if I'm going to work, if take this
just job. If they come to me and say, hey,
this other my agent, this other network I wants to
bring you on. Um, the co host is leaving. They
want to lock you in, they want to pay you

(37:59):
more money, better time slot. Instead of once a week,
you'll be on five days a week. Um, what do
you say? And and oh, by the way, you know, Brian,
this is his last year. I'm sorry, b I thought

(38:22):
we were closer than that. I would totally get that. Sorry.
I wouldn't even be mad at you, because that's a
smarter move for your future. I couldn't even be upset. No,
how could you be upset? Like, man, can I come
with you? I know? Right now, there's another detail here,

(38:47):
Juju again. On the Michael Irvin podcast, Andy Reid chief
said coach recruiting Juju aggressively. Here's what Juju had to
say about that. Andy Reid was just calling me and
then he was sending the pictures like costly and we
had to get talk in the case after this still

(39:08):
this Wow. So Andy Reid is texting pictures of the
Lombardi trophy saying, Juju, let's do this. Come over to
Kansas City, and he ultimately says, now, I'm going to
run it back with Big Ben. Now if he has,
you know, a restaurant there, a family, kids in school,

(39:33):
a wife he met there in Pittsburgh. Her family's like, Okay,
I don't know if he has any of that. Yeah, yeah,
I just don't. I mean it did that. I I
just don't get the case thing. I totally And we've
differ on this, don't we. If you it was if
you were Juju and the Ravens come calling out, You're

(39:57):
going to Baltimore. Yeah, I just can't trust Ben. I'm sorry,
I can't. I get it, but I just I can't
trust Lamar either. If I'm Juju, If I'm a wide
receiver and man to go to a division rival, just
a hated rival, it's got to be a cushy spot

(40:19):
for me to do that, And it isn't in Baltimore,
not as a wide receiver man. But we can agree
on casey, I know it isn't there all right? Coming
up next, could a great accomplishment actually be more bad
than good? Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk

I'm John Middlecoff and I host the Three and Out podcast.
Do you like football? Do you like the NFL? Do
you like the NFL draft? Quarterbacks? Coaches? Well, I talk
about it all on the show. I used to work

(41:02):
for Andy Reid as a scout. Now I give you
my unfiltered and raw opinions on everything that goes on
the NFL. And you know we're talking college football because
of how important the draft is year round. Listen to
the three and Out podcast with me John Middlecop on
the I Heart Radio app, Apple Podcast or wherever you
get your podcasts. Question for you, big man, you being

(41:24):
the Purple and Gold Lakers fan that you are. I've
got a bet with someone who does uh local show
with me here in Portland's Chad doing. Is the guy's name,
great guy, but I've got a bet with him. I
think the Lakers are gonna finish no higher than six
in the West. That's because the Lebron and a D

(41:44):
being out. He says they're gonna be a top five team.
Where do you think the Lakers finish with the unknown
being the injury woes of Lebron and a D. Top
five could be they're right there there, five right now
in the West. But well, we'll get Lebron back and
in about maybe three more games or two games you

(42:07):
think that closely? Wow? No kidding, that's an I don't
want to be in the business of rooting for Lebron
not to come back, but it's it's kind of important
for my bet if that's the case. So this guy,
he's meticulous about his diet. He only he's on a

(42:28):
very strict diet to only have six hundred calories per day.
So if he's wrong, if the Lakers finished sixth or
worst or worse, I should say he's got to Uh,
he's gonna go with five thousand calories in one day.
So let's triple. And then you're trying to make him
to the hospital. I just suggested. I just suggested double,

(42:49):
and he's like, no, no, let's let's go a little
bit higher. Let's go five thousand. Cool. I mean if
he does, he did it to himself. I just said
thirty two mm. You know a friend speaking of Bet,
I was checking the mail a week and okay, so

(43:13):
here's the thing you're gonna have to get. I still
feel like I have eight more weeks of a great
Let's just explain that to people what we're talking about. First, Okay, Okay,
So we have candy bar bets, numerous candy bar bets,
and we have a new rule in place. As soon
as someone, oh, is the other person three candy bars? Right,
you've lost three bets got to pay up and we

(43:35):
started zero again, and so I lost two of my
three bets. During the Gonzaga U c l A game
last week, the Zags did not cover in the first half.
They did not cover for the game, so the big
Man got two candy bars off of me. I will
let you know. I picked up one of the three
candy bars. I owe you. I do have a Twix

(43:58):
Grande right only. I just I don't know where to
find the cookies and cream and these specialized like pretzel.
Hey man, you gotta figured out. Bro Okay, I don't.
I don't want to hear the wine Okay, where I
don't need to I don't, I don't need to hear.
I'm just asking for directions over here. You know where
is the place to go to get those? Look? Look, man, okay,

(44:22):
I can't win the bet and then drive you to
the store to pay me driving me to the A
t M. So I can withdraw the money and I
got you. Yeah, I'll figure it out. Scavenger hunt styles,
no problem. I'm an adult. I can get this done.
You are an adult, aren't you I am? Yeah, So

(44:42):
I will. I will. It will be my quest to
find a cookies and cream TwixT bar so I can
be paid in full. Okay, let me run this by you,
big man. I'm probably know he's from salam here on
Fox Sports Radio. Russell Westbrook, he's been a triple double
machine this season for the Wizards. He's got twenty one
triple doubles on the season. He has a triple double

(45:05):
in seven of the last eight games. He's just been
on a tear and so this might sound like an
incredibly stupid question to ask, but if you think about
it for a second, I don't think it's that stupid
at all. Is it possible that if Russell Westbrook averages
a triple double for the entire season, which he is

(45:25):
doing right now, and unless things fall apart, he's going
to average a triple double for a fourth season, which
is sensational. But is it possible that he could actually
receive more criticism than praise for notching his fourth season
averaging a triple double when it comes on a horrid

(45:47):
Wizards team that's going to be well below five hundred.
I don't see how. I mean, he's pretty scrutinized and
and and talked about already. I mean, what more can
he do. I mean, look, let's start with what should happen.

(46:10):
He should get praise. It's insane that he's doing it
for a fourth season. His game, I mean, he has
a complete game, all right, he has a complete game.
And for all those out there, people out there criticizing
him and all that, they gotta watch more basketball. They
gotta understand what's going on. This kid plays harder than

(46:31):
this young man. This man, not a kid, plays harder
than anybody. He does. Man, he is all effort. But
you've already gotten a bit of a taste of it.
Within the last two weeks. Stephen A. Smith came out
and said, rolling his eyes, don't tell me about triple double,
show me the rings. You're gonna hear more of that,

(46:52):
and it's unfortunate you're not gonna win a championship with
the Washington Wizards. Nobody criticizes Bradley Beale for putting up
big umbers and say where are the rings? Where's the
team's success? We give props to Bradley Beal. Why would
we not give props to Russell Westbrook for an insane
amount of production even though the team stinks. It doesn't

(47:14):
make sense. For whatever reason, they just don't like him. Man,
they really don't. I respect his game, I really do.
I do too. And look, man, he could easily any
player on any bad team could totally just go through
the motions. If there's any season where Westbrook would be

(47:35):
tempted to go through the motions and not be the
energizer bunny that he is, it would be this season.
And he's still going out giving full effort. I just
don't brush that aside and say, who cares empty calorie stats.
You're on a sucky team. I think you're tempted more
than ever to not give full effort, and he is.
I would give him praise for that. He always has.

(47:58):
He always plays are you know? And um, you know
the knock on on him should just be you know,
shot choice and decision making. Sometimes. Yeah, outside shooting stinks.
That's legit criticism, but right like that, we can work
with that. But don't give me I don't want to

(48:20):
hear about no triple doubles. Give me shap like, I
don't don't do that. That's disrespectful. It is, Yeah, it's uh.
Even though you shouldn't hear that. I think there will
be a lot of eye rolling if you hear at
the end of the season Russell Westbrook with his fourth
season averaging a triple double. It's insane to even say

(48:45):
out loud, but I think the criticism will be louder
than the praise. I really do. It shouldn't be like
that at all at all, but I really think that's
the way it's gonna go down. Shame shame. While we're
talking about triple doubles, how about this guy Yokich, Nikola
Yokich with thirteen triple doubles this season. He is sensational.

(49:09):
In my book, he's leading the m v P race.
I was thinking about this, What do you think about it?
Big man yo Kich is incredibly effective, but he doesn't
have the artistic style if you will, He's not you know,
he's not a Westbrook energizer bunny doing something that makes
your mouth drop open, like or Damian Lillard. How he'll

(49:32):
have some insane highlight type plays. I don't think that
should hurt his m VP candidacy, but I think it does.
I think that's one of the reasons you don't hear
as much about Yokich as you should. It should be
about his production. But I do think the style goes
into what sticks with you, either as a fan or

(49:53):
a media member, as a voter for the m v P. Yeah,
when you when you're in a guard heavy league and
everything is catered to arts um, then that's what you
run into, right It. Watching Yogi in the playoffs last
year was his master It was masterful, Like that's true

(50:17):
art to the game. And to discredit that because he's
not shooting a bunch of threes or taking people off
the dribble, you know, I don't think that's right. I mean,
he single handedly destroyed the Clippers, like dismantled them. They
had no answers. He's nasty. I love his passing ability offensively,

(50:43):
like he's a little bit like Dirk in Away with
some of those shots where from the outside it's it
doesn't look pretty oftentimes, you know, But I would get
out of the business of it needs to be pretty.
I'm in the business of it just needs to be effective.
I don't care how it looks. That's I mean, that's

(51:04):
the business of winning games. You know that he looks
he do all the dribbling behind the bag and with
no look passes and all of that get buckets. Yeah,
do you think Let's say this, if your Kis was
putting up the same numbers, but his game was more artistic.

(51:27):
He was leading highlights on Sports Center every now and
then more than he does right now. Don't you think
that he would be more of a you know, I
don't know if I run away m v P, but
he would certainly be the no question leader. And right
now some people make an argument another way. I don't

(51:48):
think um as good as well as Joel Ebid is playing.
And there's some m v P talk, nobody's really taking
that serious because as he's a big hm. That's just
what it is. Not when you got James Harden out
here doing lebron right, Kyrie, Dame Dame Dollar mhm, when

(52:16):
you got this bevy of guards, Devin Booker, you know,
it's hard to convince people a post would a post player. Yeah,
let me run one other thing. I just thought of this.
It's not a perfect comparison. I'm not trying to make
it out to be, but is the NBA big man

(52:40):
a bit like the NFL running back? Just from this
standpoint where they've been devalued, running backs in the NFL
are still incredibly valuable, as are big men in the NBA,
but it just seems like they've been devalued and overlooked.
Where it's who quarterbacks, who wide receivers in the NFL

(53:00):
and in the NBA, it's who guards who wings. Like
we've seen from your kitchen and bed, it's really valuable
to have a big man who can just ball out.
Yeah it is. It makes life easier. Yeah, it makes
life easier, especially when you need it when the playoffs
rolls around. Trust me, do you want to be able

(53:24):
to slow it down? Dump it, dump it down somewhere right,
get your composure, put some pressure on the opposing team. Absolutely. Yeah,
all right, we gotta talk more about calories coming up here.
I had some interesting, interesting conversations with Lee Robbert de

(53:47):
Lap the fourth that we're off the air, and we
got to bring this right onto the air. From it
was that powerful, I would go as it was close
to groundbreaking, actually that's what it was. And also coming up,
one major change that needs to happen in numerous sports.
I'll tell you what that is. I'm Brian No, He's

(54:07):

He's E from Salam. Here on Fox Sports Radio. Discover

Nielsen Report limitations apply. We are seeing some stinky nets
defense on display right now. Lakers with forty three points
just under eight minutes to go in the first half,
and just look who's out there. That's the whole thing,
like giving up forty three at this stage, that that's

(54:51):
the worst thing ever. But who's on the floor and
who's available for the Lakers, And that's pretty bad, bad
by the Nets defense. Just keep you know, late, it's
just gotta make shots. You know, wouldn't when you don't
have star power on the court making shots could be
like well in teeth mm hmm. This has had to
have been a rough watch for you. And then it's

(55:12):
a d and Kate and Lebron. It's been Yeah, it's
been tough. It's probably like a an unwanted hot ub
time machine to like the seven seasons before good players
in there. So bad, so bad. It's very very painful
for me. But I'll tell you what winning that championship

(55:36):
last year. Was I needed that in a in a
in a year was horrific, man. That made me. That
brought joy into our lives. I'll just say it like that. Oh,
by the way, speaking of it just made me think
of with the Lakers winning a championship getting their rings.

(55:57):
Did you see this with the Dodgers the ring box
had a little monitor and would play highlights from the
World Series. Did you see that? I saw it where say,
like Dave Roberts, the manager, they showed the box and
it's just sort of like, uh, I don't know, like
a rectangular black box where the ring comes in and

(56:20):
you open that up. There's a monitor like a little
monitor and it's playing highlights. It's insane. That was awesome.
I love that brilliant new age right there and stepping
it up. It up all right, big man, I've got
an idea to fix numerous sports at the same time.
That sounds interesting. I'll give you the reason why I

(56:43):
I came up with this latest you know, magical lick, sir,
if you will. The Mets so their home opener a
couple of nights ago or days ago, if you want
to be technical, The Mets got the win. Michael Confordo
stuck his arm out and got hit by a pitch

(57:04):
that was a strike. So according to the rules, that
was completely the wrong call. You cannot stick your arm
out and get hit by a pitch when it's in
the strike zone. You that you should not be awarded
first base. So Michael Confordo went to first base, forced
in the winning run. Mets win. The umpire after the

(57:24):
game says, I screwed it up, sorry about that. They
went and reviewed if the ball hit Confordo. It did.
That's all they could do about it. They couldn't change
it from that, which is stupid to me, and it
gets me to this thought. We need a sky judge
in numerous sports. We need it in baseball, we need

(57:47):
it in football. I think we need it in basketball.
It makes no sense for you to be sitting at
home watching a game saying, oh, he stuck his arm out,
that he shouldn't be a war at first base and
they can't change it. Or if you're watching the NFC
title game and Tommy Lee Lewis of the Saints gets
crushed by defensive back before the ball gets there, and

(58:10):
you're like, that's past interference all day and they can't
change it. If it's the NBA and there's obvious I'm
not talking about the little things. I'm talking about an
obviously blown call where you say that's a goltend they
should have the basket, they would win the game, and
the officials are like, oh, we didn't see it in lifetime.
We're kind of screwed. You should have someone if they're

(58:32):
watching it like we are, and you can tell after
one replay the call should be changed. They should have
the power to do so, you know what you get
onto something when you started this, I don't know where
you were going. I was waiting for some foolishness that
usually flops out of your mouth. Oh man, wow, okay,
all right boy, that was a nice shot by Kyrie Um.

(58:57):
But yeah, you're you're absolutely right, Sally, especially if it's
you know, game deciding. Oh my gosh. Yeah, let's not
act like we don't have the technology to correct ourselves.
How stupid is that the officials in the Mets game,

(59:18):
they went over to verify, all right, the pitch hit
the guy, he should not get first base. But we
don't have the power to make the right call. And
the funny thing is they're watching it like oh yeah,
oh no, so bad. It's horrendous. That's why I think

(59:42):
you need a guy in the booth. Let's say it's
the NFL and they're taking steps, they're taking little baby
steps toward a sky judge. Fix the obvious stuff that's
ruled incorrectly. Just fix it quickly. We I don't want
it to be you know, delays and you play city.
We're talking the big picture stuff, not hey, it's the

(01:00:04):
first quarter. Was this uh face mask? Or no, we're
talking you watch it one time. That's obviously the wrong call.
Fix it. You should have the power to do so.
Not that tough. So I'm here to fix sports from
slow down. Okay, because for everyone good idea you have,

(01:00:26):
it's followed by seven awful. I need you to keep
a running tally of these awful ideas, you know, Can
you do that for me? Can you keep a list
of the ideas that you think are awful and make
no sense? Sounds like too much work. So it's the
tedious process, like too much time devoted to something that Yeah,

(01:00:50):
I'm gonna say no, you know you are very condescending tonight.
I think this is because you haven't gotten your candy
bar payments yet. A little sugar picked me up. But yeah,
you know. By the way, speaking of that, I was
talking to Lee Robert de Lap the Fourth Are Trusted producer,
and um, I was just curious, um with calories here.

(01:01:13):
I mentioned, I've got a bet with one of the
on air guys here in town and he's gonna have
to eat five thousand calories if he's wrong. Not a
big deal. But um, I was asking Lee what did
he think the amount he's topped out at in a day.
He said, maybe maybe seven thousand ish, roughly hard to
ballparkt but he mentioned going to Dodge your stadium with

(01:01:34):
Steve the Sager. Steve had one box seats and they're
just bringing you Dodge your dogs and all the food
you can eat. So at Lea said he put a
lot of calories down that day, A lot of them,
I mean, but still a hot dog though, I mean,
did you have did you have seventy of them? Now?

(01:01:55):
It was chicken fingers, It was everything. It was incredible
subway sand which is there's probably pizza, lots of I
think there might have been pizza that definitely cookies and
brownies everywhere, and I could be better to make a
list of what there wasn't right, definitely at least four
ft long Dodger dogs. That was the year I won

(01:02:15):
the March Madness Pool and that was one of the prizes.
It was awesome. So did you guys just keep eating
because the food was free? You're like, you're never gonna
eat again? Said, oh, yeah, they had it coming. I
hardly watched the game. I mixed in a salad. Does
that mean anything? No, No, it doesn't. That's health conscious

(01:02:38):
right there. I think it matters. You can go to
the cheesecake factory right across the street from what we
are here in Sherman Oaks and you can put down
seven thousand calories without even knowing. Easy. Easy. What do
you think you could max out at calories wise for
a day from oh twelve, you think you could get

(01:02:59):
to fifteen? Yeah? I was an offensive line three d
and twenty four pounds. I also would burn probably, I
don't know. In a football game, you probably burn between

(01:03:21):
ten calories. Would you fuel up at halftime at all?
Just orange slices? Yeah that's what you did? Yeah? Just orangelice?
You know, I never even really had a large pre
game meal because I just didn't want all that and
you know, on my stomach. Yeah, so you know, but yeah,

(01:03:44):
I mean, just think about burning all those calories. Just
actually in the game, there's a lot of calories of burn.
There's no burning involved in what he's talking. No, no,
he's just eating. By the way, an article when Bradley
Cooper was bulking up, I put that in quotes to
to to play the Navy Seal in American Sniper, he

(01:04:04):
needed to put it on put onunds. Reportedly he ate
eight thousand calories a day. It's a great movie too.
Lee hates it. Yeah, but but so like that, that
was just eight thousand calories a day, and he's not
he was just trying to bulk up. I'm a large man, right,
who would who was doing extrenuous exercises, practice and all

(01:04:30):
of that and then just burning so many calories. So yeah,
I know, I've had at least ten at the cheesecake
factory myself before. And this is prior to them putting
the calories on the menu. So they used to look,
I'll tell you what it was, and uh um, they
used to have a rip combo b rip combo, get

(01:04:54):
b rips fries and like you know, it's broccoli or
something like that. And that was for like thirty eight
almost four thousand calories just that. Then you have the
pink lemonade right free refills for you. You have three

(01:05:18):
three of those that's calories. And just a piece of cheesecake.
By the way, the red velvet cheesecake is like twenty
five hundred calories. You that you you you, oh, and
you guys want to get some fried cheeseballs are uh

(01:05:40):
the spinach artichoke dip right for the appetizer before the
meal comes, that's roughly twelve calories. That's one. That's one meal.
That's not breakfast, our lunch, that's dinner. It's a good
thing you don't drink alcohol too. Oh my god, be over.
I think of it like this though. If you eat

(01:06:02):
let's say roughly two thousand a day, let's just say
you do so to do that in one day, that
would be like five breakfasts, five lunches, five dinners. You know,
I hear what you're saying about the cheesecake factory. I
think you've got to change your eating habits a little
bit to get that high if you're trying to max out,

(01:06:24):
I think if you're eating the normal stuff you typically eat,
that's a lot of freaking food. Man, that is a
lot of food. Now, that's a lot of food. But
what it is is all you have to do is
eat high calorie food. Yeah, that's what I'm saying, Like,
you eat high calorie food, and like salad salad dressing

(01:06:45):
itself is crazy, It really is. I was just checking
that out this week. If I'm like, wow, holy cow,
it's that much. If you can get a cheese a
chop salad from Cheesecake Factory, that's I think you should
try to max out this week. One day you may
pleach on him and me have a heart attack. I'm
fift thousand calories. It's the fifteen thousand calorie and one

(01:07:08):
day to do it. I do it there. I would
have no chance whatsoever. You can't, you know, Cheesecake Factory says.
The appetizer, the loaded baked potato tots. That's a thousand
calories right there. So eight plates of that throughout the
day spaced out. Oh man, I can't do it. But
you know what I can do. I know what you

(01:07:30):
can do. You can serve up. Oh, heaping hot, fresh
steamy plate of one Stephen E for eat to say,
it's exactly right. I am glad you mentioned the Dodger
pregame ceremony which was great to watch yesterday, and that
was phenomenal with the ring and the rings themselves is

(01:07:51):
over two diamonds each that they passed up to these
guys yesterday, but also as they introduced each player and
came onto the field with actual ends in the stands
for the first time since, they had a video tribute
to each player from the guy who was his favorite
player as a kid, so Chris Taylor, the Dodgers grew

(01:08:12):
up in Virginia. He loved Baltimore's Cal Ripken. There's Cal
Ripken on the video board congratulating him on being a
world champion. Or another guy it was David Ortiz or
another I mean you fill in Ken Griffey Jr. All
of these guys, one tribute after another. It was so
well done. It was really well done. The Dodger ring
ceremony was yesterday. They had a tribute to the late

(01:08:32):
Tommy Losora before tonight's game, and tomorrow they will be
celebrating the forty anniversary of Fernando Media. This is their
opening weekend at Dodger Stadium. Who would be your guy, Steve,
if you were getting your championship ring, that would be
Steve Garvey, who still hangs around on occasion at Dodger
Stadium and does appear on the local Fox channel during
the postseason as well. The Dodgers are six and two

(01:08:55):
and hosting Washington right now. In fact, it's Julio Arias
on the mound tonight there down one nothing in the second.
Tomorrow afternoon it's gonna be Clayton Kershaw against Max Scherzer.
The Pirates are trying to finish up the game in
the rain. They go to the ninth up eight two
over the Cubs. Padres pitched a no hitter last night
at Texas. They're up six four over the Rangers, bottom

(01:09:15):
of the seventh this evening. By the way, the Padres
pitcher last night, and this was the only franchise in
the Majors that had never pitched a no hitter. They
got the noto from a San Diego native who they
just acquired for this season. Joe Musgrove, ex of the Pirates,
went to Grossmont High School in San Diego and what
do you know in a Padre uniform. He's the guy
that after over fifty years of existence as a franchise,

(01:09:38):
he's the guy that did it. Red Socks lead three
to at Baltimore. In the bottom of the eighth Ralphael
Devers a home run. Phillies are tied four for in Atlanta,
bottom of the seventh home runs for the Phils Bryce
Harper and Andrew mccutcheen. And in the top of the fifth,
now bottom of the fifth, it's the Reds to one
leaders at Arizona. Still a rain delay with the Angels
Blue Jay's game. As we mentioned earlier, ants of rain

(01:10:00):
all day tomorrow in Dunedin, Florida. That's the site of
the home games first couple of months of the season
for Toronto. Their revamp spring training site. Toronto likely will
play their home games at Triple A Buffalo starting in June.
Like last year, Miami beat the Mets in Jacob Degram
three nothing, Tampa Bay over the Yankees for nothing, and Cleveland.
Tonight hit five home runs and beat Detroit eleven to three.

(01:10:21):
White Socks versus Kansas City was rained out. They have
started Tonight's NASCAR Cup race at Martinsville. It's on FS one,
a rain delay at the start of well over an hour,
so they're really just getting going. Denny Hamlin in the league,
Joey Logano is running second. The game on the NBA
slate tonight on paper is Lakers Nets Now. The Lakers
led eleven to early. It's now fifty six all late

(01:10:42):
first half at Brooklyn. Dennis Shrewder with sixteen points, Kyrie
Irving eighteen for the Nets. Toronto shooting well all night.
With four minutes to go, it's Raptors one one oh
seven at Cleveland, Toronto shooting sixty two percent from the floor.
Gary Strent Jr. Forty one points. He's sixteen of eighteen

(01:11:02):
from three point range. For the Raptors, he is seven
of nine. Fact Toronto as a team first quarter was
sixteen of nineteen. It just hasn't stopped. It's been all
night long. Alex Rodriguez is negotiating to by the Minnesota
Timberwolves along with e commerce executive Mark Laurie. Hideki Matsuyama
leads the Masters by four strokes after a third round
sixty five. Justin Rose failed to a four way tie

(01:11:25):
for second place and in the NHL Dallas and Philadelphia
picked up wins. The Vancouver Canucks will return to play
next Friday. They've been off due to massive COVID issues.
Twenty one players had tested positive, plus four staffers. The
team said many Vancouver hockey players are feeling better, but
the outbreak did extend to some players families. Back to
the show in ten seconds. First, a word from Mako.

(01:11:49):
Tax refunds are great for fresh starts, especially in refresh
your ride with your refund at Mako and make the
year one you'll never forget. Had to mako dot com
to get a free estimate today. Oh better getting make
of Thanks Steve and Brian. No. He is e from
salam here on Fox Sports Radio. I love that. I

(01:12:10):
didn't know that about the Dodgers ring celebration where whoever
they looked up to as little kids would introduce them.
That's awesome. That's really really cool. Did you have a
favorite baseball player growing up? Who would be your guy? Yeah?

(01:12:31):
Old first baseman. I remember him mostly with the Cubs,
but definitely with the Marlins. He actually had a I
think a big hit in that OH three series that
put the Cubs away. Um, but yeah, I remember him
with the Cubs. Pretty well. We grew up together. That's it.
That's all you got from baseball. That's that's I mean.
But that's my guy. Man Like, we were on the

(01:12:51):
same All Star basketball team. I was about to say,
I thought he was a hooper. I thought it was
we were. We were on the traveling All American team.
All of that. I don't know who I would go with.
I used to love Vince Coleman back in the day.
It's random. I grew up a Cardinals fan. Still, I'm

(01:13:13):
a Cardinals fan. My dad was born just outside Alton, Illinois.
Ozzie Smith is too easy, you know. Uh, he's a
great player, but mainstream. I would go a little off
the radar, a little bit maybe, or else more modern
day and this isn't off the radar at all. Uh.
Pool Holes. Pool Holes was amazing with the Cardinals. Maybe

(01:13:35):
that guy, I don't know. I don't know i'd go with.
By the way, while we're talking about awesome things, how
about this Brian Stowe. He threw out the ceremonial first pitch.
It was the San Francisco Giants home opener. They beat
the Rockies. Who Brian Stowe? No, I know it's close
to Brian No, but no, I'm no no relation to

(01:13:57):
Brian Stow. But the crazy thing with Brian Stowe. He
threw out the ceremonial first pitch. It was ten years
ago that his life was almost taken as he was
nearly beaten to death outside of Dodger Stadium. He's a
diehard Giants fan. Yeah, And there was a fight after
the game. He suffered brain damage, was in a medically

(01:14:19):
induced coma, the whole thing, and he was there to
throw out the first pitch. It was great. It was
very inspirational and he's got a foundation to try to
prevent things like that from happening. And h there's way
too much crazy stuff like that. I mean, we're gonna
be on different sides, we root for different teams. There's
no reason to uh, you know, were idiots. Man crazy,

(01:14:44):
He's just like, man, where's the humanity to decency? I'm
with you, man, that some people see red if you're
wearing the opposing team's gear. It's crazy. The players don't
care that much to where they would fight, like like

(01:15:09):
pulling the Raiders stadium like batteries, you have their own
batteries at the bush. Yeah, it's we could do the
rest of the show on wildly inappropriate things that have
happened from fans. It's crazy, you really, It's almost like
going into uh, I don't know, like a part of

(01:15:32):
town where you gotta you gotta watch your back. That's
the way it is. If you go into an opposing
stadium wearing the other team's gear, like you're making a
very unsafe decision if you do that in certain areas. Yeah,
it's like the old bloods in the crypts, but with
sports team. Yeah, alright, plenty more to get to. We

(01:15:53):
will do a deep dive. Whye Lee hates the movie
American Sniper, which is a classic. I still don't understand that.
And also, can we please not do this with the
upcoming NFL draft? Can we not make the same mistake
we make every single year. That's on the way. I'm
Brian No, he'sy from salam This is Fox Sports Radio.

(01:16:19):
Brian No, He's e from Salam. Here on Fox Sports Radio.
You know, the draft is less than three weeks away,
big man, lass than three weeks away the military draft. Nope, sorry,
the uh, thank goodness, that's not the Are we doing
that again? A whole lot of layers to that. If

(01:16:43):
that were the case, you know, um, but no, no,
we're in a better place as far as that goes.
So we're talking. The National Football League Draft will begin
on April nine, so it's less than three weeks away.
I just want to say one thing, because every single
year the media fans fall for it. I think we

(01:17:03):
get so used to mock drafts in the projected order
of when players will be drafted, where something that is
different than what's expected is automatically believed to be dead wrong.
You know, take the quarterbacks for instance, right now, Mac
Jones going number three overall seems radical. Just what are

(01:17:26):
you doing? Why would you do that? And if you
pause for a second and think it is possible that
Mac Jones ends up having a better NFL career than
Justin Fields or Trey Lance if he's going ahead of
those guys, you know what I mean. I just think
you get so used to an order. What would people
have been saying if you were wind three years ago

(01:17:49):
if Lamar Jackson, who has taken thirty second overall, if
he's a top ten pick before Josh Rosen, some people
would be like, what are you thinking? Why would you
do such a thing and it would have turned out
to be the better choice, the better player. So I'm
just saying, leave your mind open, at least to the
possibility that these names that are selected out of the

(01:18:12):
projected order, it might actually end up being the right move.
I get it. But when we're talking about Matt Jones
and we're talking about the number three pick, I'm talking
about in terms of what a team based on, you know,
the offense they run, like, I just don't see that
fitting sure, right, not that you know, if it was

(01:18:35):
another team there, right, like switch it, say Jacksonville was
there or something like that, then it's like, okay, if
they like the kid, they like the get. But based
on my knowledge of the offense and you know, my
knowledge of watching Jones play and his you know, limitations,

(01:18:58):
I just don't see it as totally understood. Let's step
away from the mac Jones thing, and uh, look at
it this way. If we didn't have any draft experts.
We didn't have Todd McShay, we didn't have Mel Kuyper Jr.
We didn't have anybody under the sun. We didn't have
Bucky Brooks, we didn't have Daniel Jeremiah nobody. There's no coverage,

(01:19:24):
we just show up. It's draft day. I would love
to know what fans would be saying. Then, you know
what I mean, A lot of it just becomes You
get used to an idea, you get talked into an idea,
and you start thinking, oh, Penei sewell, if he wasn't
even being talked about, I don't know that anybody would

(01:19:44):
mention him. I don't know if people are watching the
game that closely you understand what I mean. I just
think you get so used to the talking points and
what's expected to happen that if something flies in the
face of that, you think that a team is out
of their mind and not necessarily and not necessarily be
the case as it unfold. Well, because with the wall
to wall coverage and the breaking down of every player

(01:20:08):
in every position, with that type of information, you get
vested and you start to, you know, in your own mind,
oh this this goes there, that goes there, and then
when something knocks against that, it's like, oh, that's a mistake.
That's terrible, that's right. I'll never forget. There was a
draft handful of years ago and there was a Washington

(01:20:30):
fan and there were all these mock drafts that Washington
was going to draft Morgan Moses and they drafted somebody else,
and they just showed this fan. He was like, boom,
should have been Morgan Moses. And they ended up drafting
him in the third round coincidentally, but I remember thinking,
this dude has no idea who Morgan Moses is. He

(01:20:53):
has no clue. He's just seen a bunch of mock
drafts with Washington taking Morgan Moses, and hething this is
the guy. He's a start. He isn't no Morgan Moses
at all. If Morgan Moses came up and it introduced
himself as Morgan Moses, he'd be like, who are you?
Or you wouldn't even know. It's like this you all
week you've been talking about on Friday, we're getting uh pizza.

(01:21:17):
We're gonna pizza, pizza all week, all week, all week.
You know, coming home from work on Friday night, we
got pizza. Come in. Your wife makes you know, baked
chicken and vegetables, and you're like, oh, I have it now.
The big chicken and vegetables are delicious, unbelievable. It's our specialty.

(01:21:38):
But you had your mouth ready for some pizza. That's right,
That's exactly it with mock trafts. As a fan, you
get all ready for this certain player and if it
goes sideways you freak out. Just might actually work out
fine for you, all right, come up next? Not being
motivated by the ultimate prize. What's going on? I hope

(01:22:03):
you're enjoying your Saturday Lakers, hanging tough for the moment.
Just stay in there, man, Just stay in Just just
make baskets. Yeah, trade and body blows with the nets,
but it just has this feeling the nets are gonna say, Okay,
it's time to just win this game. Let's put them
out of their misery. Is that the feeling you get?

(01:22:24):
Or no, I feel something else? What do you feel?
I feel? Just keep scoring? Just keep scoring. Kind of
weird where Kyrie Irving shoot the arm away of an official.
I think that Zach Zarba, but it was Dennis Shrewder

(01:22:46):
and Kyrie having some words. The official gets in between
and Kyrie shoves his arm out of the way, and
the official is like, you know, you'll have that every
now and then. It's funny how sometimes you touch an
official that's an automatic injection, and other times they're like, ah,
these are grown men. We'll let it slide out. Then
he's he's thrown out. Kyrie just got tossed. Well, your

(01:23:09):
odds of winning this game just why not if you're
pulling for goods. Oh he's a hothead. He is hot
head needs cool water? Yeah I don't. Yeah, Now Kyrie's upset.
He's going at another official. It's like, dude, you shoved Zara.

(01:23:32):
Can you get three for that? Yeah? Right, first player
to get four technicals in one game, Kyrie irving, go
get off the court? Yeah, yeah, he's out of there.
Goofy is what goofy does? Yeah, talented, but goofy, But Goofy.

(01:23:53):
Good guy, it really is. Does a lot in the community,
but goofy. But goofy. Man. How about the last few
games for Shrewder. So he's limping off the floor right now.
He got almost d d t by O g nna
Nobi the other night. You see that. Remember the old

(01:24:13):
school when p J. Brown of the Miami Heat picked
up Charlie Ward and just threw him down. There was
a long time ago, but it reminded me with O
g na Noby doing that to Dennis Shrewder. He just
picked up Shrewder and dropped him. And so now Shrewder
adds this running with Kyrie and he's limping out of

(01:24:35):
the game right now, too crazy. Well, hey, man, Lakers
in it? Lakers in it? Are you calling the win
right now? Kyrie got the gate? What do you think
Purple and Gold step up? Yeah, let's do it. It
doesn't sound like you're calling it. Of course you're hoping
for it. Yeah, I mean you still got Kevin Durant
on the court. Hey, speaking of k D, let's dive
into that. So k D he didn't sit down with

(01:24:57):
ESPNS Rachel Nichols. Now listen to what he's is driving him.
It's not a championship ring here it is. I wasn't
expecting to be a happy human being from a title.
I was just expecting, like, you know, the ending of
a movie. Once you worked so hard and everybody tells you, like, yo,
this is what you need to be working for. Is
this gold ball in these rings? And I'm just like,
all right, cool, let me lock in on that. And

(01:25:19):
I locked down and wanting to achieve that. But I
also realized a lot of stuff that factors in it
that's out of my control, and once I won the championship,
I realized that, like, Yo, my view on this game
is really about development. M what do you think about that?
Mm hmm, Okay, I'm sure the people in Brooklyn don't

(01:25:44):
want to hear that I focused on development, not necessarily
winning at all. In Brooklyn don't want to hear that
the championships and what you're looking for, you know, I mean,
between him and Kyrie, that's probably the most sensitive oh Man, right,

(01:26:08):
single to be careful, We careful what we say. He will,
that's right, tweet at us and call into the show
We're gem later tonight. If we're not careful, tremendous talent
fan skin for thin skin, let it go. Yeah. But
I think that's interesting what he says about the pursuit

(01:26:32):
of a championship, where this might sound ridiculous, but not
everybody is wired the same way. Not everybody has the
same crazed you know, like craze dog in the park
foaming at the mouth like a championship. Never watch Lord
of the Rings with smegl Or, He's like precious. Not

(01:26:52):
everybody is wired like that to win a championship. I'm
not saying they don't care whatsoever. They just might not
have the same level of here. And uh, I don't
think that we leave any room to consider that at all.
If you don't have the same drive, we just think
you're weird. Yeah, well, if you if you're considered one
of the all time great, then you gotta have that

(01:27:12):
drive for a championship. What do you do it? Yes,
you know, we gotta take you out of the conversation.
So he has two championships. I'm sure the drive isn't
the same. Yeah, but if he had none, I don't
think his sentiments would be that. That's a good way
to put it. Look at Tom Brady. Tom Brady was
on i G earlier this week. He's got a sight

(01:27:34):
set on ring number eight. He's already thinking about his
eighth ring. He just wanted seven. He's got a different drive.
Michael Jordan had a different drive, Kobe had a different drive.
Katie's not wired the same way. Katie's like, you know what,
I'm working on development here. He'll never be an all
time great with the mindset like that. And you know what,

(01:27:56):
he's probably okay with that. I'm sure he is. I'm
sure he is. He's never clamored to be in the conversation,
is the best player ever? No, you know, so not ever.
He was, you know, arguably the best player before he
got hurt. Some people had him above Lebron. You could

(01:28:17):
have made a great argument for that, but not the goat.
He's nowhere near that. No, no, no, no, but he's
your tremendous talent. Man. Yeah, and you know what I
was thinking about this too, big man, just playing off
of that. I saw something from Damian Lillard earlier this
week and someone was hitting him up on Twitter about

(01:28:40):
not winning a championship. So just think about this. If
this is just a random day, it's just a random Tuesday,
check the old Twitter feed and you get blown up.
This person on Twitter, A J. Writes, got a soundtrack
for you. One Curry owns me to No Rings three,
I'm over rated It for No Finals, five, ten, and

(01:29:04):
no talking about um going against the Warriors with the
Big Four and uh Dame responded, go and touch four
hundred million dollars before I'm thirty five. End of soundtrack.
My kids are the only people who own me. Baby.

(01:29:27):
Let that marinate like neckbone juice perfect. You liked I
liked it too, But what's interesting to me is if
you're a player like Dame or k d before you
want to ring and you hear these fans all the time,
you don't want to ring. You don't want to ring.
You haven't won a championship, you haven't want to ring.

(01:29:49):
At some point, depending on how you're wired, that might
motivate you further to try to win it. To shut
him up, you could just be like, wow, man, this
is uh, I'm not quite over it, but this is
getting played out. Man. It's tedious, you know. No, it's
like he said, faux hunted, not for faux hunted million.

(01:30:12):
What most people don't understand, what most fans don't understand
is right when these players come and go, there'll still
be fans of the team. Yeah. Right. These guys, the
majority of of all professional athletes, got in to sports
to change their families lives. Hm for generations, right, for generations,

(01:30:40):
His kids, kids, kids will be fine. The problem that
we see in our underserved communities is we do you know,
And I don't want to get too political or anything
like that, but I think it's important for people to

(01:31:02):
understand when you're talking about legacy and all of that,
it's something bigger than rings. And things. Right, I'm absolutely
with you, you know. And and so when you're talking
to a player and he's looking at you like you're
an idiot, because everyone I know, their whole financial livelihood

(01:31:32):
has changed for the better. Right, when you can change
the poverty cycle in your family for generations to come,
there is no greater success than that period. You can
take your championship rings and put them, you know where

(01:31:56):
I thought you're gonna go with shove them, but I
like your way better. Like that's real talk, Like let's
not get confused here. And basketball and in football, the
majority of these athletes are African American, and not all,
but a good amount of those young African American athletes

(01:32:19):
come from underserved communities. They are they now have the
resources to help build up those communities, which they do,
and now change their family's trajectory financially. Forever you won,
you one, No championship ring could ever surpass that. Here's

(01:32:45):
another one along those same lines. I'm Brian no Easy
from salam here on Fox Sports Radio. This is another
tweet this week to Damian Lillard, and the guy writes,
I'm happy for you, bro, but those men Allians still
can't buy you that championship ring, and so Lillard responded, facts,

(01:33:07):
but when you all aren't worried about me as a
basketball player, when I'm done, I will be living the
greatest life with my family, whether I do or not.
Just no, I put my best foot forward every night.
I won't think of you. And it's true. I think
a lot of fans they misinterpret that of as I

(01:33:31):
don't really care about winning a championship. That's not what
he's saying. He's saying, my life will still have meaning
in my career will still have meaning even if I
don't win a championship. There's a huge difference. Look at Westbrook.
It's a good example with him because Stephen A was saying, uh,

(01:33:51):
triple doubles rolling the eyes where the championships? And Westbrook's
response was, I'm a champion in life. And it's funny
has fans don't want to hear that, but athletes don't
want to hear you haven't won a championship. You haven't
won a championship. You haven't won a championship. Westbrook's career
isn't meaningless because he hasn't won a championship. It's not

(01:34:12):
like his legacy will be meaningless because he hasn't won
a championship. And to your point, big man, he has
done so many great things for multiple communities outside of basketball,
and so I don't look. I'm not gonna sit here
and say, like, have you won a championship at school? If? Now,
that's all good, like it matters. But I think we
make it out to matter like it's the only thing

(01:34:35):
that does. And I think that's wrong. I mean, you
can't play this game forever, but what you can do
is you can live your life forever, however long ever
is everybody doesn't win championships. I went to one Super Bowl,
we didn't win. My life goes on, and my kids
have never seen me play football. I got a nine
and uh six year they've never seen me play football.

(01:34:59):
But live in Studio City, they go to a great school.
They have everything they've ever wanted. My mother, father, everybody's
taking care of I don't care about the Super Bowl
ring who can. I'm forty four years old. I'm not
sitting around like, man, I wish you would have won
the Super Bowl. I'm sitting around like man, we're going

(01:35:22):
to Paris. This here, this this summer from his Paris open.
Yet that's what I'm trying to do. Like, that's real talk.
I told you the story about you know, fans going crazy,
yelling at me, called me all kinds of crazy stuff.
I looked at him, I said, Man, I'm rich. Goodness, Graci,
what are you? I said, what are you doing after this? Oh,

(01:35:44):
it doesn't matter, You're gonna get the butt kick. I said, Man,
we're gonna get on this plane. I'm gonna go home.
I'm getting my two and fifty dollar car and I'm
driving my three million dollar house. Where are you going
after this? And it sounds conceited in crash, but people
it to put things in perspective. For fans who are idiots.

(01:36:06):
You're cussing at me, screaming at me, telling me I'm nothing.
How could that be true? Right? And he looked at
me after that was like, oh you got me, man,
you got me, right? Like, he like, what can you do?
I mean, what what? What? What are we talking about? Yeah? Yeah,
your team might beat me, but you're not gonna beat

(01:36:27):
me in life. Yeah. Yeah, Hey man, it's not happening.
That's the appropriate response for anyone saying that you're nothing.
That's not flat out, You're actually incorrect. Are you kidding me?
The I R S think some somebody show tax bracket, homie, Yeah,

(01:36:48):
I had to pay taxes. Uh, I am in the
I'm somebody tax category basics. You know what I'm saying. Yeah, alright,
plenty more to get to coming up next. One NFL
prospect not exactly happy with a draft evaluation, and also
the number game. NFL wise lots to do. I'm Brian No,

(01:37:12):
he'sy from Salam This is Fox Sports Radio. I'm Brian No.
He's he from Salam. Here on Fox Sports Radio. Discover

card at the end of your first year. It's amazing
because discovers accepted at places in the US that take

(01:37:34):
Nielsen report limitations apply. I ran across this big man.
So the NFL is expected to relax its restrictions on
jersey numbers. Remember when Reggie Bush he wanted to wear
number five. That's the number he wore at USC and
the NFL is like, no, I can't wear that number.

(01:37:58):
You might see where running backs can wear any number
between one and forty nine. Also from eighty until eighty nine,
So you might see single digit numbers for running backs
be the same thing for wide receivers, the same range,
same thing for tight ends. Remember I think it was

(01:38:19):
Jason Witten was number one at Tennessee. I believe that's correct.
But think about that. You can see a big old
tight end rocking a single digit number. I like it.
I'm good with that, just in skill position, just as
long as it's not I'm The thing I hate watching
college is the nose guard with the number three on. Yes, yeah,

(01:38:42):
that three literally looks like a little circle, right, because yeah,
just don't do that. Keep the big guys fifty seventy nine.
It's a good point by you, because I think of
Lewis Knicks, who sadly recently passed away. He used to

(01:39:04):
play at Notre Dame. But big old Lewis Knicks. I
don't know how much he weighed well over three hundred,
but he was number nine. Who's a single digit nose tackle?
Yeah yeah, Um, So the range for defensive guys D
lineman would be between fifty and seventy nine, also ninety

(01:39:25):
and nine. Nice and offensive lineman, their range would be
from fifty toy period. Great, perfect, that's where we're at.
You could see some single digit linebackers they would go,
and defensive backs nine their range as well, which I'm
totally fine with. Also, I like it. Let's let our

(01:39:48):
hair down here a little bit. By the way, I
can't recommend this more. If there's anything you take away
from the show tonight, please go look for a picture
of Gardner Minshoe's new mullet. It is fabulous. It is
the one thing that you have to do from tonight's show.

(01:40:12):
He's sitting there, he's got a new picture out. Dude's
a character, right NFL quarterback. He's sitting there with this, uh,
I don't know. He's grasping a belt buckle. He's letting
the chest hair flow. He's got a shirt and unbuttoned
and he's got his new mullet. And he's shouting out
people who helped him like manicure this new mullet. Goodbye him,

(01:40:35):
good bye him. He says, thanks to Donny Coots. I
don't know how you say his last name for taming
the beast is that Instagram? Yeah? And Aaron for capturing
its essence. Yeah, there it is. What do you think
of that? Thing. Well, I mean, let it all hang out, man,

(01:40:58):
because we all know this is the end. Oh man,
my only friend he is this is uh time for
a new address, Gardner Minshew because it's Trevor Lawrence time
in Jacksonville. They gave him a shot. He wasn't that bad.

(01:41:19):
It was okay. He was serviceable, just you know not
Trevor Lawrence put it that way about this story. This
is awesome. I think it's great. So Nausea Harris, former
Alabama running back, could be a first round pick in
the NFL NFL Draft, we'll see, but he was upset

(01:41:41):
with a a scouting report from Todd McShay. Todd mcshaye
gave him a ton of credit, said he has oily hips,
which was my favorite compliment. He's shifty, you know, agile.
He said that he's a slippery runner between the tackles.
He said he has some acceleration limitations. That wasn't what

(01:42:05):
Harris was ticked off about. Nagi. Harris was upset because
Todd mcshey said Harris showed tremendous improvement as a pass
catcher in with a big catch radius and an ability
to adjust to balls thrown outside his frame. That ticked
off Nasey Harris. How did it take him off? Exactly? Well,

(01:42:26):
he went as far as to say, Todd McShay can
kiss my ass. And he also said, how's he gonna
say he showed better production? I did not play my
freshman or sophomore seasons rarely. Ever, I didn't have an
opportunity to show I could catch. It's not because I can't,

(01:42:46):
it's because I wasn't in the game to show people
I could catch. So let's just stop looking at the
stat sheet and watch the game. Do you think about that? Man,
Take pride in what you do. Somebody going it speak
back on it, right, like this kid is trying to
make change his life. Anybody talking negative about that? Like,

(01:43:09):
you know, you already know how I feel about the
draft and the whole process and all of that. As
a seventh round draft pick, I'm like, yeah, whatever, boo hoo, Right,
I mean, that's just that's just the life of a
seventh round draft pick. You know, I made a career

(01:43:31):
when obviously I no one thought I could. And not
just a career. I mean I've started over a hundred however,
many games I don't even know, So that whole breaking down,

(01:43:55):
and you know the people outside the teams who do
the uh you know, and we're in that business too, Yeah,
we do that. And a lot of people who do
that they have a bias, right whether they want to

(01:44:18):
talk to the kid, the kid didn't speak to it
like you create a bias. I just speak what I know.
You know what I mean. It's it's a weird thing,
right where there are certain critiques where I can absolutely
see the player taking exception to it, and I understand
why some of it is unfair criticism, but a lot

(01:44:39):
of times it's thought to be personal when it isn't.
We've talked about mac Jones not having great mobility at all.
He knows he doesn't, right, But I mean, there are
some things that are completely accurate that some players will
take as a personal shot. It's not it's just how
we see it. Well, you got like one of my weakness,

(01:45:00):
my negatives. My negatives were, um, not strong. Oh yeah,
I was not strong. I diden times and I thought
I were nineteam. But they stole one from me, and
I thought that was the greatest thing ever. H Um. No,
I was two pounds when I got drafted as a

(01:45:22):
tackle in the NFL. They those don't exist, but I'm
okay with that. But what my positives were were athletic,
great hands, great feet, basketball player, all of those things. Right.
You can put size on someone, you know what I mean.

(01:45:46):
You can put size on someone. So for me, I'm like, yeah, okay.
If if I'm not strong, I got time. But I'm
an athlete. I know that rolled me out. I can play,
which was evident my rookie year. You speak about putting
size on a football player, I think that you can

(01:46:07):
put size in terms of knowledge, you know what I mean. Yeah,
And when we look to be served up, when it
comes to the knowledge department, we turned to one specific place,
and that is a man who goes by the name

(01:46:27):
of Steve to Sager. Thank you very much. Speaking of
getting served, we'll get to the Brooklyn Nets game in
just a moment. Programming note, NASCAR rained out at Martinsville tonight.
It'll resume Sunday, four pm Eastern time, also on FS one,
Also tomorrow on FS one noon Eastern time. The resumption
from last night's rain plagued Axfinity Series race at Martinsville, Virginia.

(01:46:51):
No rain expected tomorrow. Plenty last night and tonight so
NASCAR's Cup Series race. They got in about forty laps.
Denny Hamlin's the leader the rest of the race and
it's five hundred labs total will be tomorrow afternoon on
FS one. The Lakers are surprising the Brooklyn Nets seventy
eight with ten minutes to go, and the Lakers do

(01:47:11):
not have Kyle Kuzma because of a strain calf or
Marcusols or hamstring or Wesley Matthews tight achilles or Lebron
James or Anthony Davis. Dennis Shrewder got kicked out of
this game. He had nineteen points. Kyrie Irving got kicked
out early second half as well, eighteen points for him.
Kevin Durand and the Nets started eighteen points in nineteen
minutes for him. He had five assists, six turnovers. Lakers

(01:47:36):
seventy nine now early fourth quarter at Brooklyn. Philadelphia is
leading seventy nine sixty two at Oklahoma City. For the moment,
the Nets are alone in first place in the Eastern Conference.
They started the night one game over Philadelphia. In the
West standings, Utah is first two and a half games
out of the Sun's. Utah is tied at home against
Sacramento early second half sixty seven sixty seven sons are

(01:48:00):
They just ended the first quarter at home down twenty
nine seven to Washington, which does not have Bradley Beal.
They're resting his back. He averages thirty one points per game.
Milwaukee's Janie Attendant Compo, with a sore knee, is doubtful
for Sunday against Orlando. He'll likely miss a fifth straight game.
Toronto shot sixty two percent from the floor and one
at Cleveland one fifteen. Gary Trent Jr. Forty four points

(01:48:23):
in only thirty three minutes of work for the Raptors.
He was seventeen of nineteen shooting from the floor. Alex
Rodriguez is negotiating to buy the Minnesota Timberwolves along with
e Commerce executive Mark Lori. Hideki matsu Yama leads the
Masters by four strokes. Justin Rose felt to a four
way tie for second place. US women's soccer tied its
exhibition at Sweden one one, thanks to Megan Raupino's penalty

(01:48:47):
kick in the eighty seven minute on Fox TV. In
the NHL ten Games tonight, wins for Detroit and Winnipeg.
The Vancouver Canucks will return to play next Friday. They've
been off due to massive COVID issues. Two major league
based bowl now pretty full night, and the Dodgers are
in action at home and trying to go to seven
and two on the young season. Dodgers lead five one

(01:49:07):
over Washington and the top of the fifth inning, Mookie
Bets of l A is out again with a stiff back.
Cody Bellinger went on the injured list yesterday. Tomorrow's matchup
is Clayton Kershaw against Washington's Max Scherzer. By the way, Oh,
speaking to San Diego State, we talked about Malachi Flynn.
He got the start for the Toronto Raptors today. Kyle

(01:49:27):
Lowry was out again with a foot infection. Malachai Flynn
finished with twenty points and eleven assists. Okay, you what
is it? Fight? Fight? Fight? Where does it go from?
Slow down? Okay, it starts with I believe. Actually, if
you want to big game, believe I've led that chance

(01:49:48):
and it's exhilarating. It is. That's a great, great thing.
First turn it many years ago in a Kawhi Leonard
sweet six team game. It was fantastic And of course
if you I mean the show, as they called the
student sections the show the greatest two to section in y.
Can't wait till the students can get back at Aztec
basketball games they're on. It's too much Aztec love. I

(01:50:09):
need some irish from Equal and Balanced. No. Yeah, Cincinnati
Reds have won six in a row, but they're losing
at Arizona tonight seven to in the bottom of the seventh.
Red Sox have a lead in the bottom of the
tent six four. At Baltimore, Miami beat the Mets three nothing.
The loss to Jacob de Gram, even though in eight

(01:50:31):
NS he allowed just one run and struck out fourteen,
that was a losing picture. In fact, in de Gram's
two starts, one strikeouts, just one run total allowed, and
the Mets are oh and two in those two games.
It just continues back to you good stuff, Steve de
Seger as always, I'm Brian though he's from salam Here

(01:50:51):
on Fox Sports Radio. It looks like the Lakers are
gonna win this game, man, Like the Nets are asleep
at the wheel here. They they did not come ready
to play, knowing that Lebron and a d would be out,
and pretty much anybody who's any one would be out
in the nets. Uh, they're sleepwalking. They are not giving

(01:51:12):
great effort tonight. So it's a win step in the
right direction for your purple. And you know, the reason
I'm enjoying this is because of my little brother. Omar's
from Brooklyn. Loves the Brooklyn is actually funny stories. For
his birthday last year, I took him to the Lakers

(01:51:33):
Brooklyn Nets game. That was the last game before the
NBA canceled the season, I mean, uh, suspended the season.
That was the last Laker game. And we were right
there sitting on the floor and Brooklyn one and he
went crazy and all that. And earlier this year when
Brooklyn when they played, um, we are having a text change.

(01:51:57):
He was going crazy. He was going, oh yeah, just
going crazy. Just and now I'm looking for the energy,
right I'm an energy guy. I'm like, I'm I'm texting
him right now. Yoh, where's that energy man? What? What
what we're doing? We're not talking about it before the game.
He's gonna post on the group chat. It's about nine
of us in there. He's gonna post the banner of
Lakers and Nets tonight, right, Like, I just want to

(01:52:21):
know I'm trying to have a conversation with him. I
don't know where he is. You are all about maintaining energy. Yeah,
that's exactly right, because it's important in any situation you're in.
If you're tilted so far one way, just know that
pendulum swings back. Keep that energy. You almost headphones and

(01:52:47):
microphone out out to stand talking about how bad Gonzaga
is gonna beat at the end of the game. We
barely heard your voice. No, no, you heard me. I
was literally speaking no, no, no whispers, no hushed tones
over here very much. So I will go down with
the ship, going down with that ship. They played them tough,

(01:53:14):
they beat them. Actually. Yeah. Hey, by the way, Durant,
are you a sneakerheaded all from? Yeah, I used to be.
Not anymore. I got I mean, I just I lost it.
So I have so much trauma to my feet from
football cleat spikes. It's just most of the shoes are uncomfortable,
like Jordan's Air Force ones and all. They're severely uncomfortable.

(01:53:37):
What do you rock with? What are you going? No?
I still got you know, I usually do like running shoes.
I still do you know, you know, Nike running shoes,
stuff like that. Um, I'm not ashamed to say that
I did by a pair of sketchers. Two years ago,
our family went to Disney World and that was a
seven day trip. Yeah, spending twelve to thirteen hours a

(01:53:58):
day at a at a at a park at nearly
three hundred pounds. Right, No, no, no, yourself, you're in
the vicinity. I'm just saying, like, for that much time
had I had to get to destroyed right stretcher sketches man,
and they are amazing. Okay, well you might not be

(01:54:19):
in the market for k these newest shoes, but he's
rocking them tonight. So for all the sneaker heads out there,
the KD fourteen it's the you're not feeling this, huh.
It's the first time that he's had a shoe that
had a strap. It's got a strap, you know, in
the middle of the shoe since the k D sevens.
So he's rocking them in a tonight against a horrible

(01:54:41):
Lakers squad because the injuries. I mean, I dabble, I'm
not anywhere near a big time sneaker head. But what
do you dabble in though? What? What what we're doing? Oh?
You know, I've got a couple of Jordan's. You know,
it's only yes B's. You know the type of thing.
But I'm not deep game at all. Yeah, not at all.
By the way, you were just on Wheel of Fortune,

(01:55:04):
big man. Did you catch this? I saw that. It
was just a few minutes ago that Lebron and a
d were raising the roof right the Lakers. They hit
a bucket, extended their lead and uh, Pat say Jack,
who obviously is still the main host Wheel of Fortune,
did you see this where a contestant was raising the

(01:55:26):
roof and Pat say, Jack goes, oh, yeah, lift the ceiling.
You got a bunch of flak for that. Yeah. Twitter
doesn't let stuff like that go. Like sharks in the
water with blood man, so he you got a reaction
on that wrong terminology. It happens. We're gonna close it

(01:55:48):
down in style. I've got a fun fact that you
might also know e from about an actress that you
have worked with. But random fun facts about this actress
that I'm curious if you are aware of. We'll do that.
I'm Brian No, He's from salam This is Fox Sports Radio.
I'm Brian No, He's e from Salam. Here on Fox

(01:56:09):
Sports Radio Top of the Hour, Arnie Spaniard, Aaron Torres,
The sports talk keeps flowing. Check them out. Good dudes,
you have a fun time. Okay, big man, You have
worked with Natalie Portman before, right the movie industry? Have
I worked with Natalie Portman? No, you haven't shut up.

(01:56:35):
I swear you have. Let me see, let me see
fifteen movies. No, nope, Am I misremembering things. I could
have swore that you said that you had worked on
a film or some sort of project. I think he misremembers.
I think, are you just messing with me? No, I

(01:56:58):
mean I will, but I haven't. Oh my bad. I
thought you had, but it ran across the fun fact
where her actual name is Nedda Lee Herschlag. That's a
real name, Natalie Portman, that's a stage name. She adopted
the name Natalie. I don't know if there's any reason why,

(01:57:19):
but the Portman's part of it. That's her grandmother's maiden name.
So there you go. Fun fact. I thought you would
work together. This would make a lot more sense if
you had. It's okay, still information, yeah, information about the
information of the lakers. Just destroying the nts with crushing
with backups. I you know, if you I feel like

(01:57:41):
I don't know if the Nets are gonna cover whatever,
they're favored by twelve points, I don't ever gonna cover.
There're certainly gonna win. I'll just take the Nets lay
up money line. No, that's a loser. You remember when
we talked about defense, how important that is. I still
don't think it's gonna matter come playoff times. What the

(01:58:02):
Lagers have the number one defense in the league, not
without a D and Lebron. No, currently they have the
number one defense in the league. This is what I'm
telling you. When those guys come back, they're not going
to get worse. Oh, absolutely not. So if we're in
a seven game series with two of the top ten

(01:58:26):
players in the league, top five when healthy with Andre Drummond,
I mean, where are we going? Okay, we do purple
and gold salon. I'm just saying, does it make sense
to you or does it say it? Does? I get
it listen with the the star players coming back, But

(01:58:49):
tonight doesn't mean jack, I know, it doesn't mean anything,
nothing at all. But what it does is it lets
you see how important defense actually is. Yeah, I get it.
It's more about the nets just sleepwalking tonight, right, which
is what we talked about in the first hour. Some

(01:59:10):
nights you're going to be off, right, Remember we said
that some nights it's just not gonna go in. When
you get in the series, you might have two games
where you're not shooting like you normally would. Those two games,
if you can't stop, anyone can shift a series. I
hear you, man, that's that's that's the only point I'm making.
I like teams that have multiple ways of beating you. Yes,

(01:59:33):
it's very important for you know, a long run and
to a championship by the way they have. Yeah, it
was a bad night, bad night for the nuts. Hey
for for hot water that never runs out, go Tankless
with Navy and Navy and Tankless water heaters provide endless

(01:59:54):
hot water for spotlight comfort. Visit Tankless made simple dot
com and save hundreds with local rebates Tankless made Simple
dot Com. Okay, I've got a viewing suggestion for you
from Salam. If you're not busy tomorrow, how about this
NBA TV. They're doing a deep dive into the NBA draft.

(02:00:19):
It's called Ready or Not, features four Hall of famers,
Allen Iverson Ray Allen Kobe, Steve Nash. So it starts
at five pm Pacific time tomorrow. If you're so inclined,
I'm not watching that. Did you watch Back to the Future.
I knew, I forgot, I knew it. I'm not watching nothing.
You do. You have one job I did. I'm sorry.

(02:00:45):
I admitted I screwed it up. I had every intention
of watching it. When you start pushing things, I said,
watch it when you get off turn Anah, watch it tonight.
We got the place dead, Like I gotta watch these
Blazer games. Nobody's came about. Rip City's gonna come after me,
Like you're not watching I was watching, Okay, no one's

(02:01:11):
watching the eleven Seed. Okay, hey, but you gassed up
U c l A. They were in eleven Seed. Man,
put that hurt on. Got me about to have my
belly full of candy bars. Um. By the way, before
we get out of here, I think we should do
a deep dive into why our trusted producer Lee Robert
de Lapped the Fourth dislikes the movie American Sniper. Have

(02:01:34):
you seen that movie from Do you like it was good? Ila?
I think it's very good. But Lee, he talks trash
about Clint Eastwood's directing. What do you have to say
about that movie Lee before we get on out of here.
It's not my least favorite of his movies. It's a
little bit of bland movie for me personally. But yeah,
he's got that that whole style where he gets uh,

(02:01:55):
novice actors or should I say not real actors and
does one takes. Yeah, it bothers me a lot. It's
and that's one of them. I just love that statement
so much. It's not the worst movie from him. You know,
was terrible, thank you, Oh stop it, it was not.

(02:02:15):
If you want to see a good version of that
movie Harry Brown with Michael Caine. I don't know why
people talk trash about Grand Torino. Great dialogue, great dialegue,
A little far fetched that do you have a great dialogue?
Don't overlook that
