On a new FOX Sports Saturday, Aaron Torres and Jason Martin open the show discussing Lane Kiffin's imminent coaching decision... Will he stay at Ole Miss or bolt for LSU? What's taking so long? What goes into a decision like this? Then the guys start reacting to a wild Rivalry Week in college football, discussing Ohio State's big win over Michigan, Texas defeating Texas A&M, and more! They also react in real time as Alabama and Auburn go blow-for-blow in the 4th quarter of the Iron Bowl, ultimately ending in a Crimson Tide victory. Plus, laying out the College Football Playoff picture as it starts to come into focus!

Later, the guys move over to the NFL, breaking down all the action from the Thanksgiving and Black Friday games before setting the stage for Sunday's slate... Will the Chiefs really miss the playoffs? Is it panic time in Philadelphia? How were we so wrong about Brian Schottenheimer? Who's more desperate for a win between the Bills and Steelers?

Speaker 1 (00:01):
Don't listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Welcome he to everybody, Fox Sports Radio, Fox Sports Saturday
into Sunday Air Tours. Jason Martin, we are broadcasting live
from the Fox Sports Radio studios. Just in insane, insane,
not only Saturday, but weekend of college football. A dropped

(00:25):
pass in the end zone right now by Alabama to Sega.

Speaker 3 (00:29):
Just told you.

Speaker 2 (00:30):
The Iron Bowl is tied at twenty with six minutes
to go. Refs are conferring. There is a flag on
the ground. DJ Dirkin, Auburn interm head coaches yelling, I
think that probably means it. No that Caalin de Boor
looks mad too. Let's go ahead and see it. Oh
roughing the passer on Auburn, so you'll get a first

(00:53):
down there. Alabama will be inside the red zone. Five
minutes to go. Big one, Ja mart because there's under
six minutes and Alabama can bleed a pretty chunky length
of the clock right now and still kick a field
goal to take a twenty three to twenty lead. But
what's up, my man? First of all, happy Thanksgiving, real quick.

(01:17):
We got a lot of college football and NFL to
talk over the next three hours. I know you were
in for two pros Thanksgiving morning. But did you have
a good holiday?

Speaker 1 (01:24):
Mymm yeah, I was in Thursday and Friday. So I've
definitely talked to a lot of sports the last few days.
But there's been a lot of sports to talk about,
so not much to complain about. A good holiday, and
everything's everything's gravy around here, better here than it is
in Oxford or Baton Rouge. As Kiff and Watch continues,

(01:46):
it's actually kind of now starting to get irritating.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
Okay, so it is starting to get irritating. I will
give you an update really quick. On the late game,
Ty Simpson a run basically to the Auburn one yard line.
Then it appeared to though there was a helmet to helmet.
So Alabama's gonna score here?

Speaker 1 (02:03):
Nah, they touchdown?

Speaker 3 (02:05):
Well, they put up a touchdown.

Speaker 2 (02:07):
I take back what I said, because there was a
hold on Alabama on the outside wide receiver Isaiah Horton
with the hold that sounds like a Doctor Seuss book
or something.

Speaker 3 (02:19):
Horton with the hold.

Speaker 2 (02:21):
But Alabama and Auburn are tied to twenty a piece.
Alabama needs to win this game to go to the
SEC Championship game. If they lose this game, not only
are they out of the SEC Championship Game, but very
likely out of the college football Playoff as well. And
I'll tell you what, Jamart, that actually perfectly transitions into

(02:41):
what you were talking about, because obviously a big part
of if Alabama doesn't win this game, it means that
Old Miss is going to the SEC Championship Game. So
I will reset what we think we know about Lane
Kiffin as of eleven h four Eastern time here on
Saturday night, he was supposed to make a decision today
on his future. The hold up is Old Miss, to

(03:04):
their credit, looked awesome on Friday. There didn't appear to
be any you know, lingering effects of Kiffen flirting with
basically every job in America. But I bring it up
because Old Miss wins and then Texas A and M
losing means that Old Miss is now in a holding
pattern on if they would make their first ever SEC

(03:25):
Championship game a win. Here in the Iron Bowl, and
for people just joining us, the Iron Bowl is tied
at twenty with about four and a half minutes to go.
A win by Alabama sends them. A loss means Old
Miss goes and so I bring it up because it
feels like that is the hold up right now with
Lane Kiffin. He did meet with Old Miss officials today

(03:47):
a paraphrase what Ross Dellinger from Yahoo is reporting. It
basically seems to me, J Martin, you could tell me
if you disagree. It sounds like Kiffin's basically throwing a
fit that Old Miss will not let him coach in
the post season and then also accept the LSU head
coaching job. That's where it feels like it's at. The
latest report from Ross Dellinger as of about twenty minutes

(04:09):
ago is that LSU executives quote from Ross Dellinger set
are let's see here, University is sending two planes to
Oxford on Sunday for Kiffen and his friends and family.
So the expectation is Lane Kiffin is going to accept
the LSU job on Sunday. Again, part of potential hold
ups here is that we don't know if Ole Miss

(04:32):
is going to be in the SEC Championship game. It
seems to me like Lane Kiffin wants this job. Lane
Kiffin is on the verge of accepting this job, but
he also wants to have his cake and eat it too.
And coach Old Miss at minimum in the SEC Championship game,
but probably throughout the postseason as well.

Speaker 1 (04:48):
Yeah, and look, I understand he wants that, but that's ridiculous.
It really is. Like, and if you're from the southeastern
part of the country or understand rivalries at all, LSU
is a big time rival of Old Miss on top
of everything else. But this just do it doesn't work

(05:09):
that way. Like, if you want to go to LSU,
go if that's the job that you want, If that's
the one when we know it is because you wanted
it four years ago. So obviously it's an enticing job.
We understand all that goes into being the coach there
and the just the the attention and everything else that
comes with it. We get it. If you want to go, go,

(05:30):
But this whole idea that you should still be able
to stay with this team and finish this run. First off,
you've got recruiting, you've got a transfer portal, you've got
nil you've got all these deals that need to be made.
LSU is going to hire you to be their coach.
That means you need to go do that job. You
can't do the Old Miss job throughout this period. And

(05:51):
then go after the fact. And Ole, miss, why would
they want you around at this point? And the irritating
part about this is I'm a Laye Kiffin fan and
I have been for pretty much all of this reclamation
project that we've seen pretty much since he went to FAU.
But a lot of this is becoming self inflicted. Yes,

(06:14):
it really really is. And you know, I saw this.
I read a few articles today and I'm sure you
probably saw this discourse probably on social media. Aaron. The
way that a certain television network is carrying water for
laying Kiffin right now is kind of incredible, especially with
the tie in CAA that's attached to all of it.
But it's just like, I can't believe that there is

(06:38):
an argument for letting him continue to coach in this situation,
Like if he wants to go to LSU, he should
go ahead and hop on a plane and go there
and begin his career there and all more power to
him and hope he wins championships and whatever else over there, like,
but he's got to close the chapter here. You can't
continue to date the girl that you're cheating on, like

(07:01):
it can't continue to go in this way, And Ole Miss.
This is a thing that I have increasingly thought throughout
the course of the day. They have to think, is
this just gonna happen every year?

Speaker 3 (07:12):
Yep.

Speaker 1 (07:13):
And at that point in time, even if you like
what he has done for you, which of course you do,
you almost have to say, man, go ahead and go man.
It's clear that you're gonna want to be somewhere else.
I understand that you like us and you don't want
to hurt us. I get it, man, So let's just
break this thing off and let's move on. It's very
obvious to me now he wants to go to LSU

(07:37):
and there's this pesky nuisance of ole Miss being good. Yes,
it's making it hard for him. It's like, if only
we could have lost a couple more games, it would
have been easier for me to leave. And that right
there means go tonight, go ahead and say it. Put
on the colors, have the splash screens up at LSU
and everything else, and move on from this because this

(07:58):
is a bad look. It's a bad look, and it's
just making him if all the stuff that he's trying
to do to try and fix this or not be
a villain at the end, of it. He's becoming a
bigger villain by the minute because of the last couple
of days.

Speaker 3 (08:12):
So I'll tell you a true story.

Speaker 2 (08:13):
You know, I know somebody pretty high up at Ole
miss who I would say, you know, I don't know
the last ten days if he has had regular conversations
with Lane Kiffin, but certainly with somebody that Lane Kiffin
dealt with on a regular basis, you know, certainly up
until these last couple weeks. And I bring it up
because this guy told me from the beginning the number

(08:34):
one biggest issue. And some of this is a credit
to Lane Kiffin. By the way, Alabama has just converted
a fourth and two to take a twenty seven to
twenty lead in the Iron Bowl. Well twenty six twenty.
They are going to kick the pat Auburn will get
the ball back with about four minutes to.

Speaker 1 (08:49):
Go first off. That's a gutsy call.

Speaker 2 (08:52):
Yeah, So, you know, bad radio hosting on my part
because I actually didn't even realize it was fourth down
until I literally just saw it. Alabama has taken the lead.
I don't you know, the field goal kicker made a
field goal earlier in the game, so I don't know
if there was a reason that they don't trust him
or whatever. But they convert the fourth down, they are

(09:12):
going to be up twenty seven to twenty extra point pending.
Alabama is officially up twenty seven to twenty four minutes
to go. Auburn has the ball, all three timeouts, and
again what's at stake here. Alabama with a win goes
to the SEC Title Game to play Georgia. A loss,
Alabama would be out of the SEC Title Game. Old

(09:35):
Miss would be in the SEC Title Game. Alabama also
very likely would be out of the college football playoff picture.

Speaker 3 (09:42):
So keep you update on that.

Speaker 2 (09:43):
Auburn will have to go the length of the field
touchdown and then obviously they could choose to go for
two if they were.

Speaker 3 (09:49):
Inclined to go for the win.

Speaker 2 (09:50):
So with Lane Kiffin, So what this person told me
was that basically, it's exactly what you said. And part
of this is a credit to Lane Kiffin. He did
not think that this team was going to be this good,
and he did not think this team was going to
be in position, and we all know, based on the
reporting that has come out really over the last year,
he was ready to take the Florida job last year

(10:12):
and then you know, Billy Nipeer went out of this
little four or five game win streak to end the year,
and so he was ready to leave for Florida last year.
It doesn't happen. He's back at Ole Miss and the
team just keeps winning, including up through yesterday, and so
that is what has made it, you know whatever. And
then you add in the fact that you have a
potential trip to the SEC championship game that seems to

(10:35):
be complicating things as well. So I'm with you on
everything is that the team winning is doing a disservice.
Let me say this though, because one you mentioned basically,
I'll just say ESPN and specifically College Game Day and
specifically for people who don't follow the Dynamics. Nick Saban

(10:55):
has the same agent as Lane Kiffen and Kirk kerb
Street at minimum is represented by the same agency. I
don't know really, Okay, And so there you go.

Speaker 3 (11:05):
Booger.

Speaker 2 (11:06):
McFarland, by the way, is an LSU alum, and so
he has a conflict of interest right there. But apparently,
you know, I was traveling this morning to get back
to LA from my holiday. Apparently there was a big
discourse on college game day about how you it's the
right thing to do to let them coach to this
and that I'm one hundred percent with you, is that
you listen at some paint.

Speaker 3 (11:27):
What's that?

Speaker 1 (11:28):
That's insane?

Speaker 2 (11:29):
It is insane, And first of all, you know, listen.
It'd be one thing if Old Miss had been not
a committal all along. But I think Old Miss letting
him even coach the Egg Bowl while he's openly flirting
with other schools, I think they did him a solid. Now,
part of it was to protect themselves in case they
lost against Misissippi State. They obviously wanted to win the game,

(11:51):
but they gave you the deadline. They let you coach through.
But the notion that you're just gonna get to keep
coaching this team for a month while, by the way,
all your hypothetical replacements are scooped up because there are
four other SEC head coaching job SEC openings, Penn State's open,
UCLA's open, whatever. There's that part of it, and then

(12:14):
the other part, which you mentioned, Jmart, you know what you're.

Speaker 3 (12:17):
Doing by allowing Lane Kiffen.

Speaker 2 (12:19):
To coach to the College Football Playoff, you are letting
him hang out with the players that he is about
to recruit to LSU. Yes, the second the season ends,
And so this notion that somehow Lane Kiffin is a
victim here, I'm one hundred percent with you. My stance
on this has been pretty universal pretty much from the beginning.

(12:41):
He should do whatever he thinks is best for his future.
But at the same time, stop stringing people along. And
I think the big thing is pull the plug. And
I think what frustrates me to j Mart, you know
this is that all of these coaches in this world
that we live in right this nil portal world where
every player is a free agent every single season, these

(13:02):
coaches all tell these players, guys, block out the noise
during the season. By the way, don't come to me
with crap during the season. Mike Gundy famously said this
a few years ago. By the way, Auburn goes three
and out in this game, they're gonna have to punt
the ball back. There's over two minutes to go. They
do have all three time outs. It looks like they're

(13:23):
gonna stay on the field. So I take back what
I said. It looked like they were going into punt formation.
They're gonna go for it on fourth and four. Here
a first down, you know, keeps the drive alive. If
they don't get the first down, which they do not,
Alabama is gonna take over the ball at midfield. Up,

(13:43):
we got a flag. We gotta have a flag. It's
going to be past interference. Kayalin de Borr is losing
his mind. Auburn will get a first down at midfield.

Speaker 1 (13:54):
You're ready for twenty seven to twenty six. Alabama wins
this because Auburn fails a two point conversion. Oh, it's coming,
it's absolutely That's what I'm seeing in my head right now.

Speaker 2 (14:02):
Yeah, no, DJ Dirk and it's gonna be his glory
moment where you know he's gonna be able to win
the job with a win.

Speaker 3 (14:10):
And yeah, pass interference. I think it was probably the
right call on Alabama.

Speaker 1 (14:18):
Alburn the most vicious PI I've ever seen, but there
was some contact there early.

Speaker 2 (14:22):
Yeah, it was so Auburn has the ball officially at midfield.
Apologize to the audience that we're bouncing back and forth,
but this Iron Bowl obviously has major ramifications on everything
we're talking about. But I'll wrap on Kiffin and I
don't even remember where I was, necessarily, but what I
do remember saying is you can't put him in a
you can't put him in a position where he is

(14:43):
around the players that he will then be recruiting to
LSU the second the season ends. And so I don't
blame ole Miss. I think there was this narrative all
week that was certainly heightened on College Game Day today
of this notion that you have to let him coach.
It's the right thing to do. What I would saying, Jaymartin,
I'll throw it to you. I promise is that all
these coaches tell these players block out the noise. I

(15:05):
don't want to hear from your agent about renegotiating during
the season. We'll address that when the season's over. No distractions,
and then Lane Kiffin becomes the number one distraction. If
you want to take the job, you should. But I
don't want to see sympathy from you because you're not
allowed to coach a team that you will not commit
to beyond this season, that you're that you will be

(15:26):
allowed to coach them in the postseason.

Speaker 1 (15:28):
Yeah, and look, there was honestly, I mean, I guess
it would be Herbstreet that mainly said something to something
to the effect that ole Miss needs to take the
emotion out of this how exactly?

Speaker 3 (15:40):
I think they have honestly as best you can.

Speaker 1 (15:43):
But I mean, really quick, guy says he doesn't want
to be there, really he wants to go take the
other job. Then what how are you supposed to feel?
Are you? Then? Well, yes, but you can still continue
to coach our football. There's emotion involved, like that's that's
a that's a real easy thing to say when it's
not your emotion on the line.

Speaker 2 (16:02):
Really quick, I think they have taken the emotion out.
I think the emotional thing to do would be like,
you know, you know the the high school, you know,
Hope high school prom Hope you had the time of
your life playing in the background.

Speaker 3 (16:16):
Okay, Lane, let's finish what we started.

Speaker 2 (16:18):
I think they took the emotion out of it of
we're not gonna let you hijack this program potentially into
January to then leave for to your point that you
brought up one of the biggest rivals that we have.
I think they actually took the emotion out of it
of like, dude, if you don't want to be here,
that's fine, but we're gonna move on. And I think
Lane is being the one that's kind of emo. And listen,

(16:40):
Lane's a great coach, but let's call spade a spade.
He is a guy that has thrown tantrums when officiating
calls don't go his way. When early in the transfer
portal nil portion of this college football world, he was
throwing tantrums about where. He's a tantrum thrower. He always
has been. I hate to be a and it feels

(17:00):
to me like he's throwing a tantrument. I actually think
Old Miss did take the emotion out of it, and
I think Lane is the one that's being emotional when
he is the one that is, by the way, you
want to put all this emotion aside. There's very easy
decision Lane sign a contract extension, stay coach a team
in the playoff. I think he is the one being
emotional and not Old Miss.

Speaker 1 (17:20):
Yeah, I mean, I think that's right. I think. But
at the same time, like there, okay, so I agree
with what you just said. But at the same time,
he is essentially saying, it's not you, it's me, Like
I like you, I just don't like like like you. Like.
That's kind of what we're seeing here. It's because if
he actually, if they had this meeting and it went
two three hours as reported at the Chancellor's house and

(17:43):
all this other kind of stuff, and it left unresolved.
Then it has nothing to do with whether or not
he's gonna stay. We know he's not gonna stay, Like,
it's very obvious that he's gonna leave. All he's trying
to do is negotiate a way that he can stay
around for a little while longer. And it's like no, man, Like,
if I'm if Carter gives into that, I imagine the old

(18:03):
Miss Faithful are not gonna be particularly happy with it
because basically their coach is saying, I mean, I gotta go,
but I want to stick around for another month for
a little while. Would that be all right with you?
And the answer should be no. Again, Like, it's very
obvious that he's not going to stay, because they left
the meeting with it unresolved. The only I mean, that's

(18:25):
the the only question there is. I mean, it wasn't
it wasn't gonna be hard for him to stay at
Ole Miss. He just says, I'm gonna stay at Ole Miss.
They sign a contract together, they walk out and announce it.
The fact that they left in different vehicles and it's
still unresolved means just what you said, like he is
throwing a tantrum in order to try and get both
things to happen, and it's just not going to because

(18:48):
this is Earth and that's not how things work well.

Speaker 3 (18:51):
And lastly, I'll put a ball on this because we
got to come back and talk about the end of
the Iron Bowl.

Speaker 2 (18:55):
Here Auburn driving down twenty seven twenty with under two
men minutes to go at this point, I'll just put
a ball on it by saying this is that. Also,
why are you meeting to begin with what is new?
Unless you're telling them we're gonna I'm coming back because
we may be at the SEC Championship Game. There was
nothing new to discuss. And so, in fact, yeah, the

(19:16):
fact that it's still unresolved at eleven twenty eastern, ten
twenty central after your regular season finale tells me everything
I need to know. It's a matter of if not when.
And I actually give all Miss credit for making the
decision that they did. Fox Sports Radio erin Tors Jason
Martin broadcasting live from the Fox Sports Radio studios, Ole Miss.
Are they going to the SEC Championship Game or not?

(19:38):
It depends on this Auburn Alabama Iron Bowl. It's coming
down to the wire under two minutes left, Alabama up seven.
We will get you probably a final result and the ramifications.
When we come back. We will be on air until
two am Eastern breaking it all down. Aeron Torris, Jason Martin,

and Sunday morning right here on Fox Sports Radio and
the iHeartRadio app. I Yeah, the Iron Bowl is final,
and yeah it was preposterous, all right, so jaymar let
me let me reset for America. Who's driving around. You're
driving back from Thanksgiving dinner. You're wondering what is gonna
happen and what does it mean for the college football
playoff picture? Alabama needs to win the Iron Bowl. When

(21:33):
we last spoke, I don't know, five minutes ago, Auburn
driving Alabama up twenty seven to twenty with right over
two minutes to go. Alabama our Auburn has the ball.
They're driving. Cam Coleman, their star receiver, makes a catch
and fumbles it recovered by Alabama. Alabama gets the ball back.

(21:58):
Auburn has all three times they manage to stop Alabama
force the punt. Auburn fumbles the punt out of bounds,
but has two plays the game ends they cannot find
the end zone. Alabama wins twenty seven to twenty. They

(22:18):
have clinched a spot in the SEC Championship Game, where
they will play Georgia. It does mean, by the way,
that ole Miss will not play again until the College
Football Playoff. They will not be going to the SEC
Championship Game. Very likely means one Lane Kiffin has coached
his last game at ol Miss. We expect him, according
to a report from Ross Ellander, to accept the LSU

(22:41):
job and be on a plane to Baton Rouge on
Sunday morning.

Speaker 3 (22:45):
Two.

Speaker 2 (22:46):
Alabama, with the trip to the SEC Championship Game at
ten to two, in my opinion, has officially clinched a
college football playoff spot as well. I do not think
the committee is going to punish a team, even if
they lose to Georgia next week, that has advanced to
Atlanta for the SEC Championship Game.

Speaker 1 (23:02):
No, I don't either. I think this definitely closed the
door on some other teams, closed some possibilities, and of
course made some pads a lot more difficult, and there's
not that many games left to play, quite frankly, so
there's there's just a few teams and most of those
are not going to affect the College Football Playoffs standings
in terms of who's going to get in and who

(23:23):
is not. It might determine automatic bids, but you know,
credit to Auburn for being better since Hugh Freeze left
than they were when he was there. There's still a
lot of work to be done, and of course they've
got a coaching decision to make. Maybe DJ Dirkin still
ends up with that gig. I sort of doubt it,
But we are getting to a point where once this

(23:46):
Lane Kiffen thing and now that they're not going to
be in the SEC championship game them meaning ole miss,
let's go ahead and do this man like, Let's let's
go ahead and find out in the next ten minutes
that it's over. Like, you don't have to coach in
the SEC title, You're not going to coach in a
college football playoff. I do not see a scenario where
they're going to back down from that and allow that

(24:07):
to happen. So let's just go ahead and end this
charade and let's move on. Let old miss move on
to the targets that they've already been looking at over
the last week because they kind of saw this coming.
And let's go ahead and let this carousel start to
take shape, because there's been a lot of dominoes that
have been sitting here waiting to fall based on what
Lane was going to do. And time's up. Like this,

(24:30):
this needs to come to an end, needs to come
to a head. Go on to Baton rouge and do
your thing, man, But this, this whole old misflirtation is
now over like this, this has got to go. You
flirted with Auburn in twenty twenty two, you flirted with
Florida and LSU this time around. If I'm ole, miss,
I want somebody that wants me, and reurely, you're always
gonna have a wandering eye and I hate it. Man.

(24:52):
I really wanted him to stay. I wanted him to
build a legacy at a place that didn't have a
built in legacy, and not just be the next guy
to win. I wanted him to be the guy to
build a program because I think it means so much
more and it would be so much more impressive, and
it would show some growth and some maturity in this.

(25:12):
But this is the lane Kiffen that has always existed,
the lane Kiffen that is always sort of looking elsewhere
for a bigger gig. And when he took the old
miss job, I think everybody thought, well, how long is
he going to be there before a bigger job opens up?
If he's successful, yep, And so this is this is
kind of the end of that the end of that road.
But if I don't see this over the next ten

(25:34):
or fifteen minutes, I'm gonna be a little bit frustrated,
like we need to end this now.

Speaker 3 (25:39):
Needs one more night to sleep on it.

Speaker 2 (25:41):
And one it was midday meeting with the ad just
to confirm that he's one hundred percent out. Yeah, no, listen,
I'm with you. A couple quick thoughts on that. By
the way, I should mention, there's actually a very notable
result that is about to go final.

Speaker 3 (25:54):
Cal is about to beat SMU.

Speaker 2 (25:57):
Yeah, Cal up thirty eight thirty five with eleven seconds
to go. I guess it's not done yet because SMU
has the ball eleven seconds to go. Fringes of field
goal range jmrt if CAL were too upset SMU we
would have in next week's ACC title game. Oh No Virginia,

(26:20):
which by the way, has two losses, both to ACC opponents.
Only one counts of the conference standings though, and the
seven and five but six and two in league play,
Duke Blue Devils would be playing for the ACC championship game.
Why don't we wait until all this is done before

(26:42):
we start breaking down hypotheticals and what it all means.
And I think probably the best bet, Ja Mart is
to just reset the playoff picture at the top of
the next hour. We could talk a little at Michigan.
Ohiose state really quick. Guys want to put a bow
on Kiffin one? I agree with you on this is
who he is. And I think when you think about

(27:02):
the crazy manner in which he has left pretty much
every job you live in Tennessee basically left under riot
circumstances in Knoxville. By the way, I don't even blame
the fans. I'm just saying that was basically how it
ended USC on the tarmac famously. I think people forget
this one, Jay Mart. He was fired before a national

(27:24):
championship game as the Alabama offensive coordinator and now he
is going to leave Old Miss, you know, with a
playoff appearance on the line. You know I said this
last week and I stand by it. You Know, people
were saying, you know, we talked about the college game
day guy saying.

Speaker 3 (27:41):
You know, let him finish when he started.

Speaker 2 (27:44):
I'm glad we moved past the Well, this is a
byproduct of the calendar. No, I'm sorry. The calendar was
never made with the intention that a dude from the
SEC that has a team going to the college football
playoff was going to leave for another job. And I
guess we'll put a ball on kid him by saying
is there anything And I'll just ask you is there
anything either side could have done differently? I think I

(28:06):
think Ole Miss actually handled it about as well as
you could U. I think with Kiffin, I guess I
sort of understand why he was kind of dragging his
feet today knowing that there was a potential SEC title
game on the line. But it's just an unfortunate way
to end, because, like you said, it's an incredible run
that he had. It is, to his credit, the best

(28:27):
run that that program has had basically in any of
our lives, maybe in school history. But it's going to
end in just this ugly, ugly, ugly fashion. And then
to your point, he's going to a pretty big rival
which is going to continue to make it ugly.

Speaker 1 (28:38):
Yeah. The only thing that maybe you could look at
sideways from the ole Miss perspective is I don't know
if Carter the ad needed to say the day after
the egg Bowl, we're going to have this announcement. You know,
we're going to have a meeting, like he kind of
he kind of turned this into an event when maybe

(28:59):
he didn't have to agree with that. Yep. I think
maybe they could have been a little bit more behind
closed doors, even if there was an ultimatum, even if
there was uh yeah, day after the egg Bowl, we
need to have this finalized. We need to meet, and
this needs to be done. I don't know that the
rest of the world needed to know that. I think
that that was the one thing that Olemiss did wrong
because that was always probably going to paint Lane Kiffin

(29:23):
in a pretty villainous light because and we talked about it, right,
it's become very irritating. It would be less irritating if
we weren't expecting it all day long and hadn't been
you know, ballyhooing it all week long because of that
announcement from Keith Carter.

Speaker 3 (29:40):
Yeah, we talked about it last week.

Speaker 2 (29:41):
You know, it was interesting how we both perceived, you know,
the statement to be different. But I do agree with
from the beginning it could have been. Hey, you know,
coach Kiffin has to weigh all his options. Our full
focus is on winning the egg Bowl, and both sides
will figure things out, you know, following the egg Bowl
or something like that.

Speaker 3 (30:00):
You know, I don't know.

Speaker 2 (30:01):
There was a way you could do it where it
was less Hey, the day after the egg Bowl, it's
the decision part two, Yes, and we're going to have
an Old Miss inn LSU and a Florida hat on
the table and we're gonna figure it out. So, uh,
the latest we'll get to disagre with everything, but Alabama
wins the Iron Bowl, they're going to the SEC Championship game.
That eliminates Old Miss from the SEC title game. We

(30:24):
expect Lane Kiffin to be on a plane to Baton
Rouge tomorrow, and there is a final that is noteworthy
in Berkeley, Disaga. I don't want to steal everything from
your updates, so I'll just kind of give you the
floor because there are still some notable college football games
going on.

Speaker 6 (30:38):
Duke is going to the ACC title game. That's how
stupid this college football season.

Speaker 3 (30:43):
So I have a really quick take.

Speaker 1 (30:44):
Man Lightner is a great player.

Speaker 3 (30:46):
I think that they Jay will Yeah, the Duke football
gets on the call. So can we stop?

Speaker 2 (30:52):
Can we just eliminate conference championship games and give the
auto bid to the highest like the fact that we're
gonna have to do a Miami Notre.

Speaker 6 (30:59):
Dame eliminating a payout. They do charge people admission for
the conference.

Speaker 2 (31:04):
Champions one's gonna go to these games. I mean, I
actually think the Big.

Speaker 6 (31:08):
Twelve get TV money for these games.

Speaker 3 (31:10):
I understand that there's got to be a better way
to pick twelve teams.

Speaker 6 (31:12):
Absolutely there is, because the twelfth ranked team, Miami, is
nowhere near the college playoff.

Speaker 2 (31:17):
That's what I mean. And maybe we saved the Miami
Notre Dame bigger picture for later. I don't want to
interrupt you.

Speaker 6 (31:24):
Miami already won today thirty eight to seven at Pittsburgh. However,
Miami has two conference losses. SMU just lost at cal
SMU has two conference losses. Pitt with two conference losses,
Georgia Tech two conference losses, and Duke Duke, which was
six and five to start the day, is going to

(31:45):
the ACC championship game against eighteenth ranked Virginia, which beat
Virginia Tech twenty seven to seven. This SMU loss. They
were down at Cal thirty one fourteen early fourth quarter,
then scored three unanswered touchdowns, took the lead at Cal
thirty five thirty one with under two and a half
minutes to go. California answers with a seven play seventy

(32:06):
five yard drive in about a minute and a half
to retake the lead. Sm You missed a fifty two
yard field goal attempt wide at the end, thirty eight
thirty five California with the victory.

Speaker 1 (32:20):
Ninth rank noted.

Speaker 6 (32:20):
AM leads twenty one nothing at Stanford early in the
second quarter. Also in progress, We've got UNLV ready to
go to ten and two of thirty five ten at
Nevada in the third quarter. Seemingly half of the Mountain
West Conference is going to be tied for first. Fresno
State is leading thirteen to seven at San Jose State
second quarter and the late game at Hawaii as the

(32:41):
home team tied with Wyoming seven to seven at the
end of one. I'm just guessing that the temperature in
Wyoming tonight is slightly different than the temperature in Hawaii tonight.
Number ten, Alabama a winner at Auburn twenty seven to twenty.
You know, this game delivers again that Auburn had no
business being this close. They finished one to seven in

(33:02):
the SEC and yet down seventeen to nothing in the
first half, they come back to tie it at twenty
before Bama wins on a touchdown pass with under four
minutes left on a fourth and two.

Speaker 2 (33:15):
Hey, the seger, so we were live. I don't know
if you were able to hear the broadcast? Did they
Was it just we're going for the touchdown?

Speaker 6 (33:22):
Were My assumption is because this coach did a similar
thing when he was at Washington that you know, I
won't say he's Dan Campbell or anything like that, but
it's not the first time he's done something like that.
You might recall the Cam Newton game in this rivalry series,
where yes, Auburn was down more than seventeen points and
wound up coming back to win in twenty ten. In fact,

(33:43):
going into tonight, Alabama since the Cam Newton game had
won one hundred and fifty straight games when leading by
seventeen or more. Wow nearly nearly blew the seventeen oh
lead in this one, But Bama twenty seven to twenty
is the final. Texas Tech and BYU each one. They'll
face each other for the Big twelve crown next week.

(34:05):
It'll be number one Ohio State against number two Indiana
in Indianapolis next Saturday night for the Big Ten championship.
Ohio State won at Michigan today twenty seven to nine.
Six ranked Oregon won at Washington twenty six. Fourteen and
eighth ranked Oklahoma needed a fifty eight yard touchdown pass
with under five minutes to go to win against LSU

(34:26):
seventeen thirteen. Vanderbilt won at Tennessee forty five twenty four.
Seventeenth ranked USC down to UCLA late third quarter ten
to seven. Trojans won at twenty nine to ten, and
two Lane ranked twenty fourth beat Charlotte twenty seven nothing.
Also in the college Football Panaple today, we had these results,

(34:48):
Houston winning at Baylor, Kansas State over Colorado. Colorado finishes
one to eight in conference, Oklahoma State finishes oh to
nine in the Big twelve, losing at home to Iowa State.
TCU ripped Cincinnati. Arizona wound up winning at Arizona last
night while Arnie Spanier was on the air love it.
I'm doing that quite.

Speaker 2 (35:08):
A bit after he walked into Gamble pavilion and came
out with the wins.

Speaker 3 (35:12):
Zero sympathy for Arnie Spaniels.

Speaker 6 (35:14):
I had mentioned to Lane one to finish seven and
one in the American Conference. There onto the conference title
a game against North Texas, which won easily Friday. North
Texas coach is leaving for the Oklahoma State job. But
this has to do with your Kiffin conversation. He is
sticking around to finish the season with Northel.

Speaker 3 (35:33):
There are a lot cleaner ways to have handled it
than Lane Kiff and Cleary.

Speaker 6 (35:37):
Well, you could say that at any Lane Kiffin stop.

Speaker 3 (35:40):
I mean literally, it's it's unbelievable.

Speaker 6 (35:43):
One NBA note, Detroit wins one thirty eight, one thirty
five at Miami, ending a six game win streak of
the heat back to you, Oh, Notre Dame just scored again.
My goodness, that's already twenty eight. Nothing irish at Stanford's
second quarter.

Speaker 2 (35:56):
I'll tell you what thank you. First of all, thank
you very much to Seger. Notre Dame going for style points.
I don't know if it's gonna be enough. We'll come back.
We'll discuss some of the other results of the day,
and we got to reset the playoff picture because there's
some spots that I think have been clinched, and I
think there's some spots that are gonna involve some very
good teams that are gonna be left out of this

(36:16):
twelve team playoff. A lot of college football coming up,
and of course a busy week in the NFL.

Speaker 3 (36:22):
Discuss it all.

Speaker 1 (36:22):
Next. Fox Sports Radio, you're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 3 (36:30):
Welcome back everybody. Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (36:32):
Here Torris Jason Martin broadcasting live from the Fox Sports
Radio studios. We are live here right before midnight Eastern.
Notre Dame up twenty eight nothing going for style points,
some other results of note. You know, Jamart, I you know,
I want to start with this one, and we're gonna

(36:53):
kind of really dive deep into the college football play
I guess, by the way, we should start with Michigan
Ohio State. I just I don't think that there is
a takeaway. I mean, yes, the takeaway is Ohio State
broke the four game losing streak. Michigan was up six
to nothing at one point and really had a chance
to kind of open it up. My big takeaway was
Ohio State was better at literally every spot on the field.

(37:15):
They ran the ball better, they defended better, the quarterback
was better. They look like what the number one team
in the country that is twelve and zero going into
a Big Ten championship game should look like. I know
what the history is you me, we had Bernie Fredawan
last week. We all expected a comfortable Ohio State when
we got that. I don't know if you have a
ton else to add on that one, but wanted to

(37:37):
kind of give you the floor just because it is
Michigan Ohio State.

Speaker 1 (37:40):
Yeah, it was just kind of the you wanted to
see that from Ohio State to feel better about them
as we kind of get into the spot where they're
actually going to see some actual football teams. But yeah,
I mean, to your point, there was nothing that Michigan
had to offer. They muck did up a little bit

(38:01):
early and so it was a bit of a slog
in the first half, but you could never at any
point see a universe where Michigan was going to win
that game. You were just kind of waiting for Ohio
State to overwhelm them, and they did on all sides
of the ball, and like Michigan just that was a mismatch,

(38:21):
and we kind of thought that going in, But because
of the history, you kind of look at it and say, well,
you know, these games can get kind of walkie, they
can get kind of weird. Well not in this case.
In this case, you just had one team that was
far better than the other one. And I'm glad it
went that way, quite frankly, because I wasn't really interested
in seeing Michigan in the college football playoffs this year,

(38:42):
and so we don't have to worry about that now.

Speaker 5 (38:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (38:45):
I mean, and you know the other thing too, is
like the ramifications of Ohio State losing are also just
much less interesting. It's like, what's the taken to me?
All Right, Dad can't win the Oh wait, he just
won the national championship. So like it would have been
an interesting discourse. I just don't know that any of
us could have gotten that riled up by the fact
that they lost that game. Hey, real quick, Vanderbilt takes

(39:06):
care of Tennessee I want to talk about that one
quick forty five twenty four Vandy incredible ten win season.
I think based on just how the other games broke
this week, I don't really see a pathway to the
playoff for them. Don't want to undersell what their season
was going ten to two. I'd also add this, I think,
I really think at this point, Diego Pavia at minimum

(39:29):
has to be in New York. You know, I was
thinking about it during the Ohio State game. Actually, listen,
Julian Saiyans having a great statistical season. You can't tell
me that he means more to his team than Diego Pavia,
Fernando Mendoza, maybe Jeremiah Love. Vandy gets the win, might
be a point sometime we got to talk about Joshipel
because I'm curious for your perspective. But Vandy gets that
win there.

Speaker 1 (39:49):
Yeah, look, I think that they needed to polish off
the season with that win. They needed to beat the
in state rival this season in Vanderbilt history. Yeah, Pavi,
I think, and I hope he does it end up
in New York. But just an awesome season. They're not
gonna make the playoff, but boy, they came awfully close
and to win in Knoxville by three touchdowns and just
dominate the second half of that football game. What a

(40:11):
great year and clark Lee signs the extension. It's just
great time to be a Vanderbilt football fan, no question.

Speaker 2 (40:18):
Very cool story emerging there. Tell you what, We'll come back.
We're gonna set up the playoff picture. It is crazy
after this week fourteen, heading into the conference championship games.

Speaker 3 (40:26):
That's next. Fox Sports Tradio.

Speaker 1 (40:28):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 2 (40:32):
Welcome he to everybody, our two tours martin Fox Sports Radio.
We are broadcasting live from the Fox Sports Radio studios
here at midnight Eastern time. De Seger just got you
caught up on all the news and notes from a
busy day in college football. The most noteworthy recent result

(40:52):
Alabama survives the Iron Bowl twenty seven to twenty the
final score there. Alabama will play or or Jia in
the SEC title game. As much as things change in
the SEC, they stay the same. And with it, I
do think we all think that Alabama, even with a loss,
would be in the college football playoff and so j Mart,

(41:15):
let's just do it. Let's go ahead and talk college
football playoff. There is one actually noteworthy game still going on.
It is Notre Dame, as de Sagre just told you
up twenty eight to three against Stanford. Certainly, if Notre
Dame loses this game one, it would be a very
interesting story.

Speaker 3 (41:32):
But two, Notre Dame would be eliminated.

Speaker 2 (41:35):
We're probably, for the sake of this argument, gonna assume
that that Notre Dame ends up winning. I'll tell you what, Mary,
I didn't tell you this. Get us some football music.
We're gonna talk some college football playoff. Who's in who's
out of the college football playoff?

Speaker 3 (41:51):
Love it, Mary? Thank you?

Speaker 2 (41:52):
All right, j Bart, let's start. So the SEC Championship
game is set Georgia against Alabama. Georgia entering I had
eleven and one, of course, the only loss to the
Alabama Crimson Tide at home.

Speaker 3 (42:05):
Georgia, by the way, does have.

Speaker 2 (42:06):
Wins over Tennessee, over Texas, over Old Miss all ranked.
I assume, and this can be quick if you agree,
it could be a simple yes or no Georgia regardless
of winner loss in the college football Playoff.

Speaker 1 (42:21):
Correct, Absolutely, yeah, I had. Brian No asked me to
give my top two in terms of who can win
it all in the college football Playoff, And of course
the prerequist it was that they were going to be
in it. We did it for the NFL, both conferences,
and in college football. My number one was Georgia, My
number two was Ohio State.

Speaker 3 (42:39):
Well, there you go. That pretty much tell you know.

Speaker 2 (42:42):
I'll say this, and I think Kirby has actually talked
about it, is that in this era, you know, it's
not about playing your best football in September October.

Speaker 3 (42:51):
It's about playing it in November.

Speaker 2 (42:52):
And they certainly feel like they are, especially with the
way that Texas finished things out on Friday night against
Texas A and M. For Georgia to have done with
they did just a few weeks ago. I'm with you,
Georgia is in. The only question is are they the
number one overall seed? Are they number two? We'll see
what happens there. Even with a loss at eleven and two,

(43:12):
they'd be in. I think they'd be hosting a playoff
game if they lose, I don't think they'd fall past
I guess it would be the eight spot second team.
So Georgia is playing Alabama in the SEC Championship game.

Speaker 3 (43:24):
Alabama is ten and two.

Speaker 2 (43:26):
Overall, they have a couple of really good wins, over
one over Georgia. Only team to beat Georgia, they of
course beat the now ten and two Vanderbilt Commodores. Their
losses were to Oklahoma, which is obviously we'll talk about
in a second a good win. And they do have
the worst loss of probably anyone in the playoff picture,

(43:46):
and that is to Florida State in Week one. Is
there any scenario, j Mart where you see, if Alabama
does not win this game, that they are not part
of the twelve team bracket.

Speaker 1 (43:57):
No, I think that they are solidly in after winning
the Iron Bowl. I'm not even sure if they got
blown out by Georgia that they would miss out. Maybe
that would make it a little more interesting, but no,
I think I think at this stage they're safe.

Speaker 3 (44:12):
All right, really quickly. And this can be a simple question.

Speaker 2 (44:16):
I we're putting Ohio State Indiana, both undefeated, both in
the Big SEDGIMS says, by the way, says, we're not talking.

Speaker 3 (44:24):
I don't.

Speaker 2 (44:24):
I haven't seen if there's a point spread yet. You
think Indiana could Indiana could pull off the win?

Speaker 3 (44:29):
Right?

Speaker 2 (44:29):
Even if they're they probably won't be favored in this game.
I'm gonna look see real quick if there's a point
spread going forward.

Speaker 1 (44:34):
Yeah, I mean I think so. I just I don't know,
like how hard are both those teams going at it?
You know, it's considering what's coming afterwards. I don't know.

Speaker 2 (44:45):
Yeah, you know, I think now that they're they're they're
they'll both you know, they're gonna play hard. Ohio State,
by the way, is a five and a half point
favorite according to multiple sports books coming in.

Speaker 1 (44:54):
That's probably fair, you know.

Speaker 2 (44:56):
Jmart, that point is such a fascinating one. I we
just talked about it with the Saga a few minutes ago.
To Saga brought up the point of, oh, yeah, these
conferences get paid a lot of money to play these
conference championship games. But you brought up the point a
few weeks ago of Georgia fans openly talking about not
wanting to be in an SEC championship game. You know,
I think for Indiana it's maybe I'll say this for

(45:18):
Ohio State. Remember, Ohio State hasn't been to a Big
Ten championship game since the COVID year of twenty twenty,
so I do think it means something to them but
I'm with you is I think there's got to be
a better way after a twelve game regular season, and
I'm not somebody that thinks we need to expand the
playoff further.

Speaker 3 (45:34):
I'm almost to the point.

Speaker 2 (45:35):
Where I'd rather get to sixteen teams and eliminate the
conference championship games. I just think they serve no purpose
at this point. Really fun game in Indie. Both teams
are in, and unfortunately it's kind of like Georgia last
year where they lost Carson back to injury. I don't
know that there's a lot of positive that can come out.

Speaker 3 (45:52):
Of these games.

Speaker 2 (45:53):
I'll add this too, I think there's a possibility that
even the loser ends up in the top four with
a first round by So now it's just the seman
antics of where you are in the bracket.

Speaker 3 (46:02):
I could keep going.

Speaker 1 (46:04):
Yeah, that's true.

Speaker 2 (46:05):
Yeah, I feel like both of those teams are in,
all right. ACC championship game is DREK. It is Virginia
versus Duke. The winner is in, loser is out. We
don't need to go there. I want to ask you
Texas Tech versus BYU in the Big twelve championship game.

(46:26):
Fascinating matchup, and I'll tell you why. Both teams are
ranked in the top twelve. Now, as de Seger has
pointed out and pointed out last week, BYU with their
ranking not currently in the bracket, if they were.

Speaker 3 (46:38):
To lose this game, yeah, they have to win. That's
what I was gonna ask.

Speaker 2 (46:41):
So Texas Tech, by the way, is an eleven and
a half point favorite coming into this game. Now, part
of it is these two teams played just a few
weeks ago in Lubbock. Texas Tech did beat them twenty
nine to seven in this game. So, first of all,
I'll ask you this, because again we're probably not gonna
have time to preview.

Speaker 3 (46:59):
All of these games games.

Speaker 2 (47:00):
Do you think BYU has a chance or do you
think this is just a kind of a bad matchup
for them in this game.

Speaker 1 (47:05):
I tend to think the latter. They have to win this.
I think Texas Tech's in either way. But at the
same time, I just I don't think they could match
up with them, So I think Texas Tech will blow
them out again.

Speaker 2 (47:17):
Yeah, it's a tough matchup. First of all, BYU has
this fun little habit even though they are eleven and
one of basically falling down in every game that they play,
including today or Saturday. BYU and their season finale fell
down fourteen to nothing to UCF, which finished the season
seven to five. BYU proceeded to win the game forty

(47:38):
one to twenty one. So you can do some quick
math a forty one to seven run to end the game.
I'm with you. I do think BYU probably needs to
win this game just because of how everything else has
shaken out. I'll say this though, I do think they
have they if things had gone a little bit different,

(47:59):
like if in Oklahoma had lost to Miami, had lost
to whatever. And I know Miami's ranked behind them right now,
but I think they have a pretty strong resume. Eleven
to one, only lost to a top five team, best
win over thirteenth ranked I guess it's fourteenth ranked now Utah.
They also beat Arizona, which is a ranked team. I
just I think if you lose to Texas Tech twice,

(48:21):
given all these other teams, I think it makes it
really hard.

Speaker 3 (48:25):
Let me ask you this though, really quick.

Speaker 2 (48:26):
You mentioned you think Texas Tech is in regardless even
if they were to lose this game.

Speaker 1 (48:32):
Do I think Texas Tech is in? Yes?

Speaker 2 (48:34):
Yes, I do okay, Texas. So Texas Tech would be
eleven and two. They're currently ranked fifth, and I think
it goes back to the conversation that happened last year.
If you remember, anybody that was in the field heading
into the conference championship game was not punished, So I
would assume it would be the same for Texas Tech.

Speaker 3 (48:52):
I'm with you. We'll call Texas Tech the winner.

Speaker 1 (48:54):
There.

Speaker 2 (48:55):
That means, right now we have six spots automatically right now, Georgia, Bama,
Ohio State, Indiana, the four teams in the SEC Big
Ten title games, uh, the ACC champ Texas Tech, and
we're gonna put them in as the Big twelve champs.
Certainly if BYU wins, they are in, and that adds
another wrinkle to it. But again, eleven and a half

(49:16):
point favorite Texas Tech, I think that means to me
that Vegas feels pretty comfortable they're gonna win really quick.
G five, we'll just slot into lane which we'll play
for an AAC American title. But so that's seven spots
right there. So we have seven spots, and that includes
the losers of the SEC and Big Ten title games.

(49:39):
Really quickly, let's just run through these really quick Oregon
eleven and one, they're in right, Yes, okay.

Speaker 1 (49:45):
I'm gonna beating Washington assured that.

Speaker 2 (49:48):
Yes, Oregon eleven and one. You know, they don't have
that great win on the resume, but let's give them credit.
You know, down the stretch they finish it. They beat
a USC team that finished the regular season nine to three.
USC will finish as a top fifteen team when it's
all said and done. They beat Iowa, they beat Washington,
which entered the day quietly at eight and three going

(50:09):
for a nine win season. Oregon at eleven and one
to meet is unequivocally in I mean Texas A and
M eleven and one, the signature win at Notre Dame.
They did lose the season finale, definitely in right.

Speaker 1 (50:25):
Yes, all right, I don't think there's any question about that.

Speaker 3 (50:29):
I agree.

Speaker 2 (50:29):
The only thing I will say I saw A and
M fans disappointed last night, understandably talking about, well we
still get to host a playoff game.

Speaker 3 (50:37):
I think that's actually a little bit more up in
the air.

Speaker 1 (50:39):
Yeah, I could see that. I could definitely see them
having to go on the road now, because again you
start looking at their schedule and who they were able
to dodge. I think that that might hurt them a
little bit when it gets to the seedings.

Speaker 3 (50:52):
Don't disagree.

Speaker 2 (50:53):
Probably you would think the SEC and Big Ten runners
up at minimum would get the home games. You'd probably
think Oregon would too. Anyway, we can figure all that
out later. Ole Miss eleven and one don't know who's
going to be coaching them. I think I actually know
who will not be coaching them. Yeah, as the reports
are that lane Kiffin is set the you know the

(51:15):
latest for people just joining us, LSU is set to
send two planes to Oxford on Sunday morning to pick
up lane Kiffin. So it does not look like lane
Kiffin will be coaching LS or Ole Miss in the
College Football Playoff.

Speaker 3 (51:28):
But at eleven and one, Old misses.

Speaker 1 (51:30):
In yes, they're in the question. I think that the
bigger question is are they going to get dropped to
where they have to go on the road where they're
not going to be in a position to host a
playoff game, because that is something that the committee takes
into consideration, if coaches and or players, and of course
you know you've seen that with Jordan Travis and different
things through the years. Here you have a coach that's

(51:52):
very much responsible for what Ole Miss has done this year,
leaving that could put them in a spot. I do
think that they are in, but I think that they
are going to get faded a bit.

Speaker 2 (52:04):
One hundred percent, and I think it's going to be
fascinating to see how it all plays out here over
the coming hours and weeks. And I just think it's
fascinating to see again what the committee does with ole
Miss One team that Old Miss did beat Oklahoma. Yeah,
we're positive they're in. They're sitting in the eighth spot
right now, one spot ahead of Notre Dame one, certainly
a couple spots ahead of Miami Oklahoma, which by the way,

(52:26):
we didn't even talk about an hour one almost lost
to LSU.

Speaker 3 (52:29):
But Oklahoma we assume is in.

Speaker 1 (52:32):
Right. Yeah, I think a two lost team in the
SEC is the to be Yeah, is going to exactly
is going to be in. I don't think they're that
great because I just don't trust the offense, because I mean,
I have eyes. But at the same time, they know
they've beaten who is on their schedule, and some of
those have been pretty impressive wins. I think Notre Dame

(52:53):
is a better team than them, and there are some
teams that will not get in that I think on
any given day could beat them. But I just don't.
I don't see a two loss SEC team being left
out of this.

Speaker 2 (53:03):
All right, Well, that brings us to the final spot.
I'll reset here really quick. We have eleven spots that
I actually agree with you on on all of them,
and so I'll just reset them really quick. Georgia and
Bama play for an SEC title. I think both teams
are in. Even if Bama Law loses, that would be
their third loss. I still think they get in Ohio

(53:24):
State and Indiana and the Big Ten. They're both getting
in an ACC champ out of the drek that is
that league for people scoring at home. Virginia will play
Duke seven and five Duke for an ACC title.

Speaker 3 (53:37):
I'm not being sarcastic.

Speaker 2 (53:38):
That is actually the matchup Texas Tech versus BYU. For
the sake of this argument, we have Texas Tech, which
is an eleven point favorite eleven and a half point
favorite next Saturday, winning that game, and then we have
a group of five champ Tulane winning that game as well.
So that's seven teams. We also have not playing next Saturday,
but in right now Oregon, Texas A and m Ole

(54:00):
Miss Oklahoma. That is eleven teams right now. That means,
by my calculation, there is one spot for what I
would deem to be five teams that range from very
likely to extremely unlikely. But I will lay out all
five and I'll let you decide what you think is
the most most interesting. Okay, let's lay out those five.

(54:23):
Let's do it.

Speaker 3 (54:26):
The five teams.

Speaker 2 (54:28):
No, I'm including Notre Dame, which is currently up twenty
eight to three at the half against Stanford, or right
around the half, it's a twenty three seconds left. I'm
assuming a Notre Dame win to finish the regular season
at ten and two. That also includes a Miami team
that is ten and two that has the head to
head win over Notre Dame. It also has a couple

(54:51):
of not great losses. Both of the Miami losses, now
with SMU losing on Saturday, will be too unranked opponents.
The two losses were to Louisville, which finished the regular
season at eight and four today and then also SMU,
which finished today and four. I think both of them
are unranked, So Notre Dame ten and two, Miami ten

(55:14):
and two had to head win two unranked losses. The
other three that I think will be discussion points, although
I don't know if it's gonna hold up. I just
don't think there's enough spots. One you already told me
you don't believe we'll get in. That would be an
eleven and two BYU Big twelve champ. Also two other
teams Vandy at ten and two, and then I will

(55:38):
also just for the sake because it will be a
talking point.

Speaker 3 (55:42):
I can promise I hear.

Speaker 1 (55:43):
It comes, let's do it. Bring it on.

Speaker 2 (55:46):
Steve Sarksha says it will be the world's greatest injustice
ever if a nine in three Texas is not in
the college football Playoff. For the sense we're just laying
all the particulars out there, his argument is, certainly if
they did not, if they had not scheduled Ohio State,
they would be sitting at ten and two. Now I

(56:07):
don't think you can equate that, but let's for the
sake of argument. They also have a terrible loss to
a four and eight Florida team.

Speaker 1 (56:14):
Horrible loss.

Speaker 2 (56:16):
So those are the five that I think will to
a degree be in the conversation, Miami Notre Dame by
you if they lose the conference championship game. Now, the
interesting thing is you've said you think Texas Tech is in.

Speaker 1 (56:29):
Yeah, like, b WHYU wins that twelve spots over? I think, oh,
that's that's my opinion. I think Texas Tech gets in
over the rest of them.

Speaker 2 (56:36):
Very interesting, all right, So Miami Notre Dame BYU two
Lossvandy three lost Texas.

Speaker 3 (56:42):
I'm just gonna give you the floor. You could take
it wherever you want.

Speaker 1 (56:44):
My men, So of the teams, I think No Dame
is the best, but I also think results have to
matter and games are not played hypothetically. The argument, and
to his credit, Brian no Diehard Notre Dame guy born
and raised in South Bend, said that he's tired of

(57:06):
the argument that, well, if they played right now, Notre
Dame would beat Miami. Yeah, but here's the problem. They
did play. It doesn't really matter what you think might
happen today because something already happened this season. That is
a touchstone, That is a point that we can go
back to and actually address. So here would be my

(57:27):
argument to me, Texas is out three losses. The Florida loss.
In particular, they're done everybody else that you want to
mention in that spot if BYU loses again, even if
both their losses are to Texas Tech, I don't think
that's a strong enough resume outside of that to get
them in. I think, just intellectually, Miami should be in

(57:49):
over Notre Dame. I do not, like my heart wants
to see Notre Dame because I think they're the better
football team. I think they have a better chance to
win a champceampion shipped than does Miami. I think they
are better. But that can't matter because games are played
that we spend a lot of time on Saturday nights
talking about for a few months that game was played.

(58:11):
We can't pretend like it was not. When they have
the same exact record at the end and there's a
head to head win for one team over the other,
I think it's I think it's ridiculous to actually put
Notre Dame in over Miami. So I would argue for Miami,
even though I do not think that's how it would go.

Speaker 2 (58:28):
All right, So a couple interesting things on this one.
You know, by the way, Notre Dame now up thirty
five to three. As we head to halftime, they scored
another great man.

Speaker 1 (58:36):
Their offense is incredible.

Speaker 3 (58:37):
No, you know, but listen a couple of things.

Speaker 2 (58:40):
One I do think it's it's worth noting is that
this week Miami did move up in the rankings.

Speaker 3 (58:49):
Let's see here.

Speaker 2 (58:50):
They moved from I want to make sure I have
this right from eighteenth. Oh no, no, I think I
did this wrong anyway. Bottom line is they moved up
in the rankings.

Speaker 3 (58:59):
Let me see. I'll do it really quick, I can.
I can do this off the top.

Speaker 1 (59:01):
Of my head.

Speaker 3 (59:02):
Here.

Speaker 2 (59:02):
So they moved from h no, they moved they oh,
they moved them from thirteen to twelfth.

Speaker 1 (59:09):
They also moved Notre Dame up one. Yes.

Speaker 2 (59:12):
The one thing that the committee did say during this,
during their thing, is that Miami is now close enough
to Notre Dame in the actual rankings, where they kind of,
you know, they their argument is, they compare groups of
teams more than individual resumes, and so now they've conveniently

(59:33):
put Miami in a position to group them. They're in
a position to compare them head to head with Notre Dame.
And so that's really boring semantics to just say, very
simply this BYU is probably going to lose. Alabama Independent
is going to win, win or lose. So basically BYU

(59:53):
and Alabama are going to get a result that is
going to impact their positioning. All while Notre Dame and
Miami are no going to be playing. BYU and Alabama
are the two teams in the standings that separate Notre
Dame in Miami. So the bottom line is that basically
we will be able to compare them in the standings.
The Committee has positioned it where they're going to be

(01:00:17):
ranked right next to each other in the final standings,
and then at that point you can flip it. And
so that is a very long winded way of me
saying for all the criticisms of the committee, I actually
think they usually get things right, and I think they
actually usually put brands brand bias aside, like last year
when everybody wanted Alabama and they put in an SMU

(01:00:38):
in the final spot, and I think they're going to
eventually put.

Speaker 3 (01:00:41):
In Miami over Notre Dame.

Speaker 2 (01:00:44):
Miami season done at ten and two. Notre Dame we
assume is going to win as they're up thirty five
to three, not much time left, j Mart, But do
you have any final thoughts, because I do agree with you.
I think now that both teams have gone ten and two,
they're going to be in a position where they're ranked
side by side, and it will be easy for the
committee to move Miami ahead of Notre Dame.

Speaker 1 (01:01:04):
Yeah. Like again, I would rather see a playoff with
Notre Dame than Miami based on the football that I
have seen, But that's not how you do this. The
right decision is for Miami to go in over Notre Dame,
and that's going to make a lot of people upset.
But this thing has to be objective, and it has
to be well as objective as it can be in
this case, and when you have an identical record but

(01:01:26):
ahead to head win, I just don't see how you
put the other team in.

Speaker 2 (01:01:29):
We will see what happens. I do think I agree
with you, j mart. I think we're down to one
spot for about technically five teams, but I don't think
about three of them really have a leg to stand on.
One late note in college football, Jeff Duncan out of
New Orleans the Times Picky Unit is reporting to Lane
coach John summer All. After his win tonight, said he

(01:01:50):
will meet with his family and discuss his future. He said, quote,
I've had opportunities presented, but that he wants to coach
and plans to coach the team in the conference championship
game next week. So John Sommerral will coach Tulane in
the American Championship Game. He is the heavy favorite to
get the Florida job now that Lane Kiffin is out.
And if you're just joining us, there are reports that

(01:02:12):
there will be planes on the ground in Oxford on
Sunday morning to pick up Lane Kiffin and make him
the LSU head coach. Tell you what fun segment, j
mart Long segment, we gotta come back, talk a little
bit of Turkey Day, NFL, look ahead to week thirteen
in the National Football League, and of course, get our

(01:02:33):
extended update from Disager. This is it Fox Sports Tarty,
Welcome back, everybody, Fox Sports Radio Ertorus. Jason Martin broadcasting
live from the Fox Sports Radio studios. Huh, all right, Disager,
there is an update on the Lane Kiffin situation from

(01:02:55):
Marty Smith. I don't know if you've seen it yet.
I'll get it over to you, but let's get the
news desk for the saga as I just stole your
spotlight on the day.

Speaker 6 (01:03:03):
That's fine, he said, Old miss sources tell me Lan
Kiffin will hold a nine am team meeting Sunday morning
and have an announcement regarding his future afterwards. And then
Marty Smith, I assume can have a meal and actually,
you know, sit down on a couch.

Speaker 1 (01:03:17):
He's the new ed Werder spend a day like he
would like to.

Speaker 6 (01:03:21):
One note before all the football that we'll get to
is Cooper Flaggs had a nice night as the Dallas
MAVs are about to beat the Clippers. They're up now
one twelve, one ten with two seconds to go in La.
But Cooper Flag. According to Mark Stein, longtime NBA writer
who covers Dallas these days, that Flag, not quite nineteen
years old, became the second youngest player in NBA history

(01:03:44):
to have a thirty point game, behind only Lebron James,
who was about ten days younger, and Flag, one night ago,
became the youngest to have ten assists or more in
an NBA game. It is now one fourteen, one ten Dallas,
and that's now a final. Flag finishes with thirty five points.
It's just gone final. In college football, UNLV is ten

(01:04:05):
and two after winning at Nevada and the cold forty
two to seventeen neither way.

Speaker 3 (01:04:10):
Yes, great season from Dan Mullen.

Speaker 2 (01:04:12):
Like we don't talk about schools like that a lot,
but you know, the Dan Mullen Florida divorce, it's looking
like a lot less was Dan Mullen's to blame than
maybe he was given credit for at the time. So
now you know, we're not gonna like do a segment
on it. But I just thought it was a worth
acknowledging nice season.

Speaker 6 (01:04:30):
Because the Gators have had no other divorces before or.

Speaker 2 (01:04:33):
Well, No, what I'm saying is I mean he was
pretty good for them. Yeah, and then he had a
bad year and they canned them and he was out.
He's back in doing well and Florida's back in the
coaching mark.

Speaker 3 (01:04:45):
That's all I'm saying.

Speaker 6 (01:04:45):
And then you think the ACC has some problems with
some ties in who's going to the conference title game.

Speaker 1 (01:04:50):
We'll get to the.

Speaker 6 (01:04:51):
Mountain West situation, which includes UNLV in just a few
minutes in about ten to fifteen, but a TV. There
are three late game games in college football. Number nine,
Notre Dame leads at Stanford, thirty five to three Stanford,
with only about fifty yards passing and under forty yards
rushing in the first half. Fresno State leads twenty one
to seven at San Jose State early third and in

(01:05:13):
the final seconds before halftime the late game at Hawaii
as the home team up twenty to seven over Wyoming.
Now Boston College was one to ten this year, but
got an easy win at Syracuse Today thirty four to twelve.
Duke started the day six and five, and they're headed
to the ACC Championship game. Forty nine thirty two their
final over wake Forest. Eighteenth rank Virginia beat Virginia Tech

(01:05:37):
twenty seven to seven. Duke goes to the game in
Charlotte next weekend because number twenty one SMU was beaten
at cal tonight on a last minute touchdown. Thirty eight
thirty five. NC State beat North Carolina forty two to nineteen.
So coach Bill Belichick finishes two and six in the
ACC and no, they're not going to a bowl game.

(01:05:59):
Minnesota seven teen seven over Wisconsin, which finished two and
seven in the Big Ten. Penn State was two and
six in the Big Ten, but gotta win at Rutgers
forty to thirty six. Rutgers finishes two and seven in
conference play. Michigan State was zero to eight in the
Big Ten, but got a home win against Maryland thirty
eight twenty eight. Maryland finishes one and eight in conference.

Speaker 3 (01:06:21):
In a game on.

Speaker 6 (01:06:21):
Fox tonight in the Snow, Illinois over Northwestern twenty to thirteen. Also,
we had what was it the Pac twelve championship game.
There's only two teams in the league, but Washington State
beat Oregon State thirty two to eight. So Oregon State
finishes two and ten, And can I mention that Washington
State football with thirty two points that's just about the

(01:06:43):
equal of Washington State women's hoops tonight because the Cougars
lost their game to fifth ranked LSU one twelve to
thirty five. Washington State had thirteen baskets and thirty one
turnovers in this game.

Speaker 1 (01:06:57):
There's nothing like women's basketball blowouts. Man women's college basketball,
it's like one hundred point victories.

Speaker 6 (01:07:03):
Yes, absolutely, and LSU now has a record eight straight
one hundred point games after scoring the one to twelve
in the Virgin Islands tonight. Back to you, thank you
very much to seger I did met you know, we
talked a lot for them.

Speaker 3 (01:07:17):
I know it's radio.

Speaker 6 (01:07:18):
We talked a lot about the Alabama win in case
people are just getting in. Alabama did win at Auburn
twenty seven to twenty late fourth down touchdown pass, and
the Ohio State win was twenty seven to nine at Michigan.

Speaker 3 (01:07:30):
My man, thank you so much.

Speaker 2 (01:07:31):
You'll be back with your extended update including Mountain West
tie breakers stay tuned four way tie at the top.

Speaker 3 (01:07:36):
As the saga just told you.

Speaker 2 (01:07:38):
Finally year, by the way, you mentioned the PAC twelve,
you know, final year for the Mountain West as it stands.

Speaker 1 (01:07:44):
By the way, how do you feel if you're in
a two team conference and you don't win it?

Speaker 3 (01:07:50):
Probably not great? Probably not great?

Speaker 1 (01:07:53):
Is that worse? I mean you finished last, also finishing
the conference? Yeah, yeah, exactly, That's what I'm saying. Like,
I don't know if you if there's a glass half full,
glass half empty portion or you just think, man, we
stake there's only one other team in this thing and
we still couldn't win it.

Speaker 3 (01:08:11):
I think they got bigger issues than trying to figure
out Yeah, no, I would agree with Yes, Oregon State
needs oh Oregon State hired a new coach Jim JaMarcus Sheppard,
the wide receivers coach Lane Kiffin.

Speaker 2 (01:08:21):
Get what if the given plot twist? She's always at
a soft spot for Corvallis Oregon. I'll tell you a
quick side story. I had an it's not it's not
worth it, but I had a buddy who coached coaching
the old Pac twelve and let's just say he did
not have a lot of nice things to say about
Corvallis Oregon. So anyway, uh, j mart, let's you know,

(01:08:43):
we're probably not gonna have a ton of time to
talk NFL a hour three With all this college football stuff.
It seems as though, let's there's like four different times
Thursday was a not only a great day of football,
but a consequential day of football. Same with Friday's Black
Friday game. As the Bears beat the Eagles, I'll tell
you what. I'm just gonna give it to you and

(01:09:03):
we'll save the rest of the conversations for hour three.
The most interesting result for one team on Thursday or
Friday was and we'll discuss that for the next few minutes.

Speaker 1 (01:09:15):
Man, I gotta pick one.

Speaker 2 (01:09:21):
I mean, we only got four minutes until we got
to get back to to Sega for the extra I'm
gonna if you want to save a.

Speaker 3 (01:09:26):
Good conversation for the last hour, we can. If you
wanna just you know, we can.

Speaker 1 (01:09:31):
All right. Well, I'm just gonna pick one because I
know we'll get to other ones.

Speaker 3 (01:09:35):
Sure, Baltimore, hmm, I'm glad you picked that one because
I don't have a ton to say other than that.

Speaker 1 (01:09:41):
I think that, yeah, that might not. I think I've
got more to say on other stuff. But I will
say this. You get Burrow coming back, all right, But
it's less about him coming back and more about the
fact that Cincinnati is fielding one of the worst defenses
in the history of the National Football League and Baltimore
still can't do anything. Sure, I understand Lamar is not right.
Like I understand there's some injuries there. He's not fully healthy,

(01:10:05):
that he doesn't need to be playing because all he's
doing is limping back. He's not able to do anything.
He's not himself in any way. He says, this is
not the worst stretch of his career. I beg to differ.
This is bad. This is a team both of us
had in the Super Bowl, no doubt, and every time
I watched him, I'm like, man, they shouldn't even make

(01:10:27):
the playoffs. They may still because somebody has to win
that division and you're seeing teams leaking oil all around them.
And Cincinnati was three and eight by the time Burrow
came back, and they're not going to run the table.
But Baltimore is not able to Their offensive line is
not very good. Lamar has not been accurate. He certainly
is hampered by something. Is hamstring his knee, Something's going

(01:10:48):
wrong there. Their defense is not very good. Like, this
is a team. This team has fallen completely off a cliff.
This is a wasted year for the Baltimore Ravens. My eyes,
I do not see us like watching them get hot
and end up in the super Bowl. This this looks
like a complete flop in twenty twenty five.

Speaker 2 (01:11:07):
Yeah, and I think the disappointing thing is the division
is just so there for the take. Yes, you know
Pittsburgh has lost four of six. They play Buffalo on Sunday,
and so I bring it up because if you win
that game, and by the way, you're playing Cincinnati at home.
We know Joe Burrow is special. We also know he's
coming off two months where he has not played. If

(01:11:28):
you just win that game, you're seven and five the Steelers.
If they lose to Buffalo, you're in first place alone
in the standings going into the final stretch of the season.
Now you're Baltimore one. We'll see what happens with Pittsburgh.
But all of a sudden, this gives Cincinnati life. And
you know, they obviously did a big, you know, production

(01:11:48):
on why Joe Burrow decided to come back so late
in the year. It's because with the way Pittsburgh's playing,
the way Baltimore is playing, all of a sudden, Cincinnati
is not out of the mix. They were three at
eight coming in there, now four and eight going into
this back half of the season. But I just bring
it up because you look at Baltimore still have Pittsburgh,
still have the return game at Cincinnati, plus the Patriots,

(01:12:12):
plus the Packers, plus two games against the Steelers. So
I just bring it up because if you win this game,
it just changes everything. And now, you know, forget wasted season.
I just think they're just not gonna win it. They
have too many good teams at a time went. Oh,
by the way, the final three for Cincinnati are the Dolphins,
the Cardinals, and the Browns, and obviously the Steelers right

(01:12:34):
now you know a little bit of an advantageous stretch
as well, where they have two against the Ravens, the Dolphins,
and the Browns as well. And so I could go
on and on. I don't know if anything final to
say on Baltimore, but you win this game, you're in
first place in the division, maybe by yourself by the
end of Sunday. Now you gotta hope for a Pittsburgh loss.
And even then, Cincinnati's on your heels, were at home,

(01:12:57):
you could have pretty much pretty much put them out
of their misery before things even started, if you'd just
taken care business Thursday night.

Speaker 1 (01:13:04):
Yeah, I mean, I thought it was a perfect one
just to have a couple of minutes on because I
think there's more meat on the bone on some of
these others. But yeah, like it was there for the taking.
And it's an AFC that quite frankly, you look at it,
it's just like there's no Juggernauts sitting here in this
conference right now. There's just not not in based on
what we've seen on the field, there are flaws in
every single team and from week to week. I don't

(01:13:26):
know who you can trust. Eventually, somebody is going to
come out of that conference. But Baltimore is blowing a
major opportunity, no doubt about.

Speaker 3 (01:13:34):
If Baltimore falls to the Cincinnati Bengals on Thursday night,
that was one of three games on Thursday.

Speaker 1 (01:13:41):

Speaker 6 (01:14:45):
Guys, I have seen a stat that in Power Conference
teams football, that it's happened five times where a team
had at least five losses in the season and still
made their conference championship game. Three of those five occasions
it happened in the ACC. Yeah, Duke, which started today
six and five, is going to the title game next
weekend against Virginia. I'm not the first to point this out,

(01:15:07):
but you know it was a few scant weeks ago
that one Connecticut team did beat Duke, I'm very aware,
and did win at Boston College. So maybe uh Yukon
in the ACC title game. Maybe the coach can ask
to stick around. I don't know you can work that out,
as you coach.

Speaker 2 (01:15:22):
Weeks ago, Yukon had more wins in the ACC than
Florida State did this year. I think Florida State has
since tied us in the standing.

Speaker 6 (01:15:29):
I saw a stat that the list of teams to
be winless on the road in the last two seasons
in all of FBS, there's u Mass Okay, I can
see that. Perdue the last couple of years. Florida State
is zero to nine on the road the last two seasons.
If you're Bills coming back though, yes he is, Well,
that was talk about. That would have been a heavy pant.
Wasn't that over fifty mil? If they actually would have

(01:15:51):
eaten fewest wins against FBS opponents the past two seasons
by Power conference team, Perdue only has won the last
two years. Oklahoma State only a couple, Mississippi State and
Florida State each only five for the last two years combined. Well,
we mentioned the ACC with seemingly everybody finishing six and two,
and I did see a stat that if you look

(01:16:12):
at the top six of the ACC standings, everybody's beaten
everybody else at least once except for Duke. But Duke
Quinn's their tiebreakers, go figure and is going to Charlotte
for the title game.

Speaker 2 (01:16:24):
The tiebreaker was how toughly did you play Yukon? You
played them pretty tough. Okay, you're in that's right.

Speaker 6 (01:16:30):
That was a thirty seven to thirty four.

Speaker 1 (01:16:32):
Game it was for the Huskies.

Speaker 6 (01:16:33):
A few weeks ago, the Mountain West announced that Sunday morning,
they will determine their two participants for the conference title
game by a composite average of computer metrics. What UNLV
finishes six and two, San Diego State lost in double overtime,

(01:16:53):
Yesterday finishes six and two, Boise State on a late touchdown.
One Yesterday twenty five, twenty four, they finished six and
two New Mexico six and two. So you know, computer
stuff that always works out so well.

Speaker 3 (01:17:07):
Lane Kiffin will make the announcement eda le right after
his team meet.

Speaker 6 (01:17:11):
Do we not recall about twenty years ago when Pete
Carroll's USC team was ranked number one in both polls
and the computers instead said Oklahoma and LSU to the
PCs title game.

Speaker 2 (01:17:22):
And that is, by the way, why any talk of
eliminating a human committee is the stupidest thing.

Speaker 3 (01:17:27):
I've ever heard.

Speaker 6 (01:17:28):
That is correct.

Speaker 2 (01:17:29):
All people need to do is go back and remember
how much we hated the computers. I'm stealing your segment
to say, oh no, you are correct.

Speaker 6 (01:17:34):
That reinforces the opinion. Notre Dame iss scored again it's
forty two to three at Stanford early in the third.
If you didn't see any of the Alabama at Auburn game,
I'll say it for not the first year. Shockingly, it
was close. Tenth ranked Alabama won at Auburn twenty seven
to twenty. This is an Auburn team that finished one
in seven in conference, but on a touchdown pass with

(01:17:55):
under four minutes to go on a fourth and two,
Bama wins the game. Despite blowing up seventeen to nothing
Lee late first have Auburn fumbled down at the Alabama
twenty with about thirty seconds left. Auburn had ten penalties
in this game. And so with the Friday A and
M loss, Georgia is in the SEC title game in
Atlanta against Alabama next Saturday. Of course, Georgia just won

(01:18:19):
in Atlanta yesterday. We could have had A and M
in that title game. They were eleven and oh they
lost at Texas yesterday. And keep in mind, for the
twelve team playoffs that starts next month, the five highest
rank conference champions will automatically make the field. Miami will
not be the ACC's champion. What if Duke is the
ACC's champion, we might then get say, James Madison and

(01:18:43):
Tulane in conference playoff in the national playoff.

Speaker 1 (01:18:47):
Could only be so lucky if be.

Speaker 3 (01:18:49):
Better than Duke.

Speaker 2 (01:18:50):
I mean, I would rather see I'm not saying I'd
be excited to see another group of five team. I'd
rather see an eleven and one twelve and one team
that actually did something this year, not one some weird TI.

Speaker 1 (01:19:01):
Rating completely agree.

Speaker 6 (01:19:02):
James Madison finished eleven and one today undefeated in the
Sun Belt, dominating at Coastal Carolina. Troy won it's finale,
and so we're gonna have James Madison hosting Troy Friday
night in the Sun Belt championship game. Jacksonville State finished
seven and one in Conference USA after edging Western Kentucky
thirty seven thirty four. So in Alabama Jacksonville State Friday,

(01:19:27):
we'll host the Conference USA title game against Kennesaw State,
which won in double overtime at Liberty. And the MAC
Conference championship game is next Saturday, opposite the Big Twelve
title game. They kick off at the same time. In Detroit.
It'll be Miami Ohio against Western Michigan. Miami Ohio won
its finale against Ball State to finish six and two

(01:19:47):
in conference.

Speaker 2 (01:19:48):
Say you're the man. Thank you very much. Busy Saturday
in the world to college football. We're gonna come back
and talk at all Lane Kiffin. We think is on
the verge of a decision. All all of the conference
championship games except the Mountain West, which is gonna use
an advocates and a compass tomorrow to determine their champion.
Is is final? We'll discuss the conference championship games. An

(01:20:11):
interesting thing I just saw to j Martin, I want
to throw at you. Plus, we gotta talk. NFL Week
thirteen has begun and there's plenty more coming on Sunday
and Monday. Aratorys Jason Martin. We are taking you till
two am Eastern. This is Fox Worth three.

Speaker 5 (01:20:24):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 2 (01:20:29):
Welcome in everybody, our three tours and Martin Fox Sports Radio.
We are broadcasting live from the Fox Sports Radio studios.
Busy evening ahead. By the way, J Martin, let me
just get a gripe off my chest. Right now, CBS
Sports Network is showing their quote unquote updated college football

(01:20:50):
playoff bracket uh oh, with Miami in as the eleven
seed and the only ACC team in the bracket. This
has driven me crazy for weeks. Okay, if you're making
a bracket online or on TV. And oh, by the way,

(01:21:13):
we now know who's playing in the ACC Championship game
and Miami is not that team, stop putting them in
as the only ACC team. It's it's the stupidest thing,
but it drives me bananas. That bracket literally cannot happen.
I don't know why I care so much, but it's
like I've seen this for weeks. They're just like, hey, technically, no, no, yeah,

(01:21:36):
Like we're living in this world where if thirty seven
things happen that aren't gonna happen Miami gets into the
big to the AEC Championship game. It's like they're not
getting in and all you're doing is giving the casual
Texas fan, Vandy fan BYU fan, whoever, hope that their
team has a pathway. And if we're under the assumption

(01:21:58):
that Miami gets in with a head to head win
over Notre Dame, which they got earlier in the year,
like it's not happening.

Speaker 3 (01:22:05):
I don't know why.

Speaker 2 (01:22:05):
It just really annoys me. And it's been going on
for weeks. And oh, By the way, it's especially egregious
right now because I know CBS Sports is on CBS
Sports Network is on live right now, and we know
the ACC Championship game in Miami is not going to
be in it. Sorry for the random rant, but God,
did that? Does that annoy me?

Speaker 3 (01:22:25):
I don't know why. It just really annoys me.

Speaker 1 (01:22:28):
I understand. I understand because it's just illogical, and you know,
the people that are doing it also know that it's
not logical, but they're still putting it up there.

Speaker 3 (01:22:36):
Let me ask you this.

Speaker 2 (01:22:36):
I actually just saw this from Nicole houer Back from
NBC Sports, so two things can be true. I agree
with a take. I also just fundamentally like it will
just never happen for a very logical reason. So when
Cole hour Back works for NBC, I find out to
be really good, smart, well thought out, et cetera. Okay,

(01:22:57):
she tweeted out at let's see here nine stern time.
This might be an unpopular take, but if I'm the
ACC and Cal upsets SMU, which is what happened, we
now have a Duke Virginia ACC Championship game. She said,
I would override the tie breakers and put Miami in
the ACC Championship game against Virginia. I'll say this as

(01:23:19):
a college football fan, I want that to happen because
I don't want to watch awful Duke in the ACC
Championship game with five losses. The counter to that is,
this is, weirdly actually the best thing for the ACC,
because they're very likely going to end up with two
bids again under the assumption that the College Football Playoff

(01:23:40):
Committee gives Miami the edge over Notre Dame with the
head to head loss. So I don't know if I
have any bold takes on that one either. I just
thought it was interesting. I wish it happened, but I
don't know why the ACC would actually do it.

Speaker 1 (01:23:52):
No, I just I think that that again, unfortunately, the
games have to matter. And I say that, but it's like,
I mean, we're watching these We watched a regular season
for a reason, sure, and it has to count. I understand,
like kind of the mentality that we get you there,
and I'm with you, I would want the exact same thing,

(01:24:14):
but that's just not how it works. Like, there is
a reason why things are set up the way that
they are. There's a reason why teams play twelve regular
season games and those have to all factor in. So
I don't like the precedent that it would set. And again,
like I think one of the bigger problems here is
just because the brands aren't nearly as impressive, it would

(01:24:38):
look like brand bias on top of everything else. It's
just a bad precedent to set. You can't go down
this road where we're arbitrarily making decisions not based on
what took place on the field.

Speaker 2 (01:24:50):
Yeah, and I'll be quick on this. I said it
to lead the show. I think it's time to just
eliminate conference chamionship games. Again, another thing that probably won't happen.
You can keep the five you know, five conference champions
getting auto bids into the college football playoff. I just
don't think we have to play a conference championship game
to get them. Just give it the highest ranked team.
Then Miami does get that acc bid, and you're putting

(01:25:12):
your best foot forward, and by the way, Miami gets
left out. You know whatever, it's a different conversation. So
really quickly, let's switch gears to listen. It's the biggest
story in sports. Disager just got you caught up on
all of the big scores from the world to college football.
Probably if you missed any of the conversation, we did
it a lot in our one. But Higo State beats Michigan,

(01:25:34):
Alabama survives the Iron Bowl, Alabama going to the SEC
title Game where they'll face Georgia. Let's go ahead and
talk the big topic, the big story and the result
that were the resolution probably is the better word that
we thought we would have by now, but technically sort
of don't, but sort of do. And that's what's going
on with Lane Kiffin. So we came on air at

(01:25:54):
eleven pm Eastern time. We had been told that Lane
Kiffin would have a resolution on his future as of today. Saturday,
Egg Bowl ended the regular season. He wanted to coach,
the school wanted to coach him whatever. Keith Carter the
AD said there would be a resolution by today. Issue
became that coming into today, Ole Miss still had a

(01:26:15):
chance to make the SEC Championship Game. There was a
long meeting at Keith Carter the AD's house with Lane Kiffin.
And it's funny because you and I surmised that basically
it felt as though Lane Kiffin was basically throwing a
fit wanting to continue coaching this team. Into the postseason

(01:26:37):
and Old Miss was basically saying, it's time for you
to go, buddy.

Speaker 3 (01:26:40):
Bring it up.

Speaker 2 (01:26:41):
Just minutes ago, Brett McMurphy tweeted this out. Brett McMurphy
of On three said, lane Kiffin is quote essentially demanding
to finish the season with Old Miss, while simultaneously threatening
to poach Old missus roster and staff if he can't.
Source told On three Sports quote, it's unfortunately gotten. E've
been messier than expected as emotions are high. End quote

(01:27:04):
from Brett McMurphy. Lane Kiffin has scheduled a team meeting
tomorrow morning where he's expected to tell the team that
he is leaving.

Speaker 3 (01:27:12):
LSU are leaving four LSU.

Speaker 2 (01:27:15):
Only bring it up because that is the latest from
Brett McMurphy as of about nine minutes ago when he
posted that.

Speaker 1 (01:27:22):
Chim listen man, I said off the top, and I've
said this before. I'm a Lane Kiffin fan. I liked
him when he came back out of you know, I
mean the tarmac and everything that happened there. When he
went to FAU. He used to come on Clay's show
in the morning when I was producing. You know, I
had a couple of conversations with Lane and we you know,
just listening to him off air, just his conversations and stuff.

(01:27:45):
I liked what I heard from him, and you've heard
some good things from him in the last few years
in terms of sobering up and maturing and all these
other kinds of things and all this this is insane. Sure,
this is ridiculous, This is immature. Absolute Honestly, if this
is pathetic, like if you are going somewhere else, go

(01:28:11):
but like, you have the right. Look, nobody is saying
you don't have the right to go to you to LSU.
You have earned that because you have done a fantastic
job at ole Miss and we already knew you were
an offensive guru. You've proven it in multiple locations, and
you have built yourself to where you are a hot
commodity that everybody wants. Four years ago, you were campaigning

(01:28:33):
for the LSU job and couldn't get it. You wanted
the Auburn job. They didn't go with you. You thought
about Florida, you flirted with them in the past. Now
they're all coming to you with their pockets out saying
please please come here. You have the right to do that.
You have earned the right to do that, but you
have not earned the right to do it on your
own terms at the expense of the place you're leaving.

(01:28:56):
And that becomes the issue here. All of the water
carriers that think that ole Miss is somehow being punitive
and punishing poor Lane Kiffin because he wants to take
this job, but he really wants to see this whole
thing through. This is insane. Again. If you don't understand
the sec then you don't understand the rivalry between ole

(01:29:19):
Miss and LSU. They hate each other. Ole Miss absolutely
cannot stand LSU. A lot of ole Miss fans consider
LSU a bigger rival than Mississippi State. And you are saying,
if you are Lane Kiffin, who have been ingrained in
that community now for six years, you are saying, Hey,

(01:29:40):
I'm gonna go to the place you despise after bringing
you up for a while, I'm gonna go to the
big dog now. But I do want to coach you
during the college football playoff. I want to see this
thing through. No, I can't believe that there are smart
people in this industry that are suggesting that that is
somehow a not only just a possibility, but something ole

(01:30:02):
Miss should capitulate too. That's ridiculous. If he wants to
go somewhere. He's saying, look, I really do like you.
I just don't think your marriage material and that's fine.
But then ole Miss needs to move on, and so
does Lane Kiffin. It's ugly, it's gross, but these are
how breakups take place. We're not sitting here for the
next five or six weeks, you know, playing foot seat

(01:30:24):
underneath the table with our recruits to then bring them
to Baton Rouge after this thing, get on the airplane
with your family, put on the purple and yellow, learn
from Brian Kelly's mistake, not the fake an accent, and
become the LSU Tiger's head coach. Have the press conference
and you know, have the ticker tape parade in Baton
Rouge and everything else, but get the heck out of Oxford.

(01:30:48):
This cannot happen. I don't care what you're demanding. If
I'm ole Miss and I'm Carter, I'm like, don't let
the screen door hit you on the keyser and the
way out. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:30:58):
My stance is I actually think I think it was
a semi selfish I think Keith Carter it was clear
that I think he could have easily said dude, if
you're not with us, because remember Ole Miss had a buy.
So this is basically been going on for three weeks now,
since the really the start of the Florida Week, but
even the end of the Florida Week, it's like it's

(01:31:20):
been clear that he's at minimum gonna flirt. He doesn't
want to talk about it, but he also wants to
keep his options open, but he also wants to coach
the team. And I said it last week, I said,
I actually respect the ad for doing this because you
can't drag it on forever. And for people who don't
really understand the calendar, it's a few things. Is one,
we're talking about the college football playoff going deep into January.

(01:31:43):
If Ole Miss keeps winning, and people would say, well,
why can't you just wait till the end, Well, because
you have to hire a new coach, and that new
coach needs to get boots on the ground and start
to get to work on next year. And there's gonna
be people that say, well, well, just let him finish
it out. The other variable is that in this world
that we live in, he will be coaching many players

(01:32:07):
that he plans to recruit to LSU the day the
season ends, and so the Bret McMurphy tweet referenced it.
But you can't have him in that locker room coaching
these guys up until the bitter end. And then oh,
by the way, the game goes final on you know,
New Year's Eve, you lose in the Rose Bowl or whatever,
and then oh twelve oh one. Hey, by the way,

(01:32:31):
I throw down the you know, like you'd always talk
about the wrestling stuff, Jabart, throw down the old miss advisor,
put on the LSU visor and say who's coming.

Speaker 3 (01:32:40):
But you can't do that.

Speaker 2 (01:32:41):
And so, like I understand the notion of wanting to
start what you finish what you started, Well, guess what,
there's a way to do it. Agree to keep coaching
the team for the foreseeable future, and agree to come
back next year. And by the way, just I'll put
a bow on it by saying, people that are blaming
that this is somehow a calendar issue, it'd be no
different if, for some crazy reason, Sean McVeigh said, I

(01:33:08):
want I'm coaching the New York Giants next year, and
I have made that decision, and there's nothing you can do.
It's not on the RAM like like like, the calendar
doesn't line up for Sean McVay to do that any
different than it does for Lane Kiffin. Like at some point,
Sean McVay would have to make a choice, are you
gonna be the RAMS coach in the playoffs? Are you
gonna go take this other job? You can't do both.

(01:33:29):
And it's the same with Lane Kiffin. For anyone to
complain about the calendar, there's no calendar designed for a
coach that's good enough to win the national championship to
also leave his school. So I just threw a lot
out there, But that's just a little bit of context.
You can't keep letting him coach. And so you reference
some of the comments that were made throughout the day,
you know, you referenced you know whoever saying that Ole

(01:33:51):
Miss was being emotional about this.

Speaker 1 (01:33:53):
Well yeah, yeah, look, no, no, I think you're being hurt.
Street said, I'll call him out. I mean in this
case Herpstreet said, ole Miss Hester, you have to leave
the emotion out of this. He would want his players,
would want him to finish this off. He wants to
finish this off. How could you do this and of course,
you know Saban backed it up as well on the
same set and all this other stuff, and it's like,
I do think that, and you made this point. I

(01:34:15):
do think that Ole Miss generally has been pretty even
keeled about this, considering how they've just kind of been
strung along for a few weeks at this point. But
this is not some kind of punishment for Lane Kiffin.
This is the cost of doing business. You're going somewhere else.
That means you're not coaching here. We have to move

(01:34:36):
on for our future immediately, just like you do. And honestly,
we haven't really taken it from this perspective. I'm lsu,
I'm paying you to be my coach. Get the hell
of gotten, rouge. I don't need you worried about the
college football playoff ter and recruiting portal and nil and
everything else that's going on. I'm sorry that the calendar stinks,
but unfortunately there's only twelve months in the year, and

(01:34:58):
college football is a pretty dem ending sport from the
coaching perspective because of what it takes to field a team,
build a team, buy a team, all the things that
go into that. But I'm not paying you a dummy
year to go ahead and enjoy your time at ole
Miss and then come here Like that's not how this works.
I need you on the ground for me, one hundred

(01:35:21):
percent committed. Remember this is Alane Kiffen, who Nick Saban
sent away during a playoff during the postseason because he
was distracted because he had taken the FAU head coaching job.
It's the same kind of thing, like and that was
a much different scenario. He was going from Alabama OC

(01:35:42):
to a head coaching job at Florida Atlantic. Here it's
going to the rival and the rival's gonna wait, and
the person that you're there is gonna like no, no,
Like this is just I understand what Lane wants. I
understand that Lane would love to have both jobs in
his own head, but unfortunately we don't live in fairytale land.
Like we gotta be men. We got it's time to

(01:36:04):
just grow up. The decision is made, go ahead and
leave like this is this is a rap. We gotta
stop this.

Speaker 2 (01:36:12):
We only got like a minute or two before we
do have to switch gears to the NFL. Is there
a world where this just like because like you're hiring
Lane Kiffin at LSU A school that three of the
last four coaches have won national championships to win national championships, like,
is there a world, because I do think it is
fair at the end of the day to be like,
are we sure this guy's worth all of this hassle?

(01:36:33):
And it was kind of it was a conversation when
it was LSU and Florida were both tripping over themselves
to hire this guy, like do you see the world
where he just goes to LSU And maybe it's pretty good,
but it's.

Speaker 3 (01:36:45):
Because like.

Speaker 2 (01:36:47):
LSU is is to your point, in their own way,
gonna have to put up a lot of with a
lot of crap once he gets there. And I'm just
I think he's gonna be awesome there. I'm not trying
to like for all of the crap that he's put
all missed through, he is an excellent coach and he
has him at eleven. And one I do just think
it's interesting is like he has never made the playoff.

(01:37:07):
He'll have never coached a playoff game by the time
he gets to LSU, h never won a conference championship.
It's just I don't know. I just I think he's
gonna be awesome. But I feel like there's a world
where we went through all of this and he isn't
what LSU signed up for.

Speaker 1 (01:37:22):
Well, the one thing I will say is that what
he has done at ole Miss, he could have done
for the next thirty years, and I think they would
have been happy with him there.

Speaker 3 (01:37:31):
Yep.

Speaker 1 (01:37:33):
If he does that at LSU, he'll be fired in
five years. Great cop, that's the difference. He was building
a legacy at a place where the expectations were reasonable
for him, where he had full control. And let's not
forget ole Miss did everything under the sun to help
him while he was there. They let him run it

(01:37:54):
the way he wanted to. They gave him all the
resources known to mankind to help him through it. They
gave him everything that he possibly could have asked for.
There was nothing left for them, and they were gonna
match whatever the money deal was as well, so there
was nothing left for them to do. And he's still
going to leave and he's going to a place that
just paid out ten mil ninety mil or our ten

(01:38:18):
years ninety mili to Brian Kelly, another guy who had
not won a championship before he got there, who failed,
And now they're looking at seven years, ninety eight million
dollars for you. You're coming in and there's only one expectation,
you are going to win a national championship. So what
that tells me is this, Lane Kifvin does not believe

(01:38:41):
he can win a national championship at Ole Miss, if
he did think he could actually do it there, with
the resources involved, whatever it is that it takes to
build a roster at Ole Miss, he must think it's
just not something that's gonna happen. That he's gotten close,
but that he's hit the ceiling, because why on earth
would you leave for another job if you thought you

(01:39:01):
could win? And in this era of college football, I'm
not so sure he hasn't made a mistake.

Speaker 2 (01:39:07):
Yeah, And I'll just be quick in saying this is
that I saw a tweet and I thought it summed
it up really well. It was basically to the effect
and a paraphrasing of if all of the if you're
leaving Old Miss to do all of the things that
you can't do here, why are you currently doing all

(01:39:28):
of those same things?

Speaker 3 (01:39:29):
And that's a bad way to phrase it.

Speaker 2 (01:39:31):
It was phrased better in the tweet, But essentially, if
the argument is you got to go there, to make
the playoff, to win a national championship, to do whatever,
maybe make an SEC championship game almost happened this year.
He's doing everything at LSU at Old Miss that he
could do at LSU. Now, obviously there are some stages
that he never had the opportunity to get to it

(01:39:52):
Old Miss, but it is worth noting he you know,
he had a pretty good run and then to your point,
currently feels like he has done everything that he can
at all Miss.

Speaker 3 (01:40:04):
For people just joining us, there.

Speaker 2 (01:40:05):
Are multiple reports out now that there will be planes
on the ground in Oxford on Sunday morning. Lane Kiffin
will have a team meeting and he is expected to
board a plane to Baton Rouge by the early afternoon.

Speaker 2 (01:40:49):
Sports Radio, Welcome back, everybody, Fox Sports Radio Aerators. Jason
Martin broadcasting live from the Fox Sports Radio Studios.

Speaker 3 (01:41:01):
I think we're done with college football.

Speaker 2 (01:41:04):
Right now, although Alex Golish, the South Florida coach who
appears to be a candidate for Ole miss if Lane
Kiffin leaves for Arkansas for Auburn, just tweeted quote grateful,
quote grateful quote grateful. Okay, so I don't know what
that means, but story bro, Yeah, yeah, so I think

(01:41:28):
that means he's probably leaving in the morning, just a
matter of where and who. That's another reason, and that's
why you have to boot lane Kiff into the curb.
Like the guys that in theory want this job are
going to have other hypotheticals too.

Speaker 1 (01:41:44):
All right, look at what's happening in Auburn. I mean,
Auburn thought they were they were gonna get some raw.
Now it looks like Florida is gonna get some raw.
And I saw a comment that said, what's hilarious about this?
Is both Auburn and Florida fans are upset about that. Yeah,
just unbelievable.

Speaker 2 (01:42:01):
Yeah, yeah, that's it's interesting. Some are all coming from
the group of five ranks. Of course, Billion Napier was
a total flop there, so I think people are frustrated.

Speaker 3 (01:42:10):
Uh, you know who hasn't been a flop? J Martin,
Brian Schottenheimer.

Speaker 1 (01:42:14):
Man, we need to let's do it. Let's apologize. Yeah,
so let's let's apologize.

Speaker 2 (01:42:20):
So you did two pros on Friday, Thursday and Friday,
I did uh Covino and Rich as well as the
Gottlieb Show on Thursday, and I said, this is that
and we were all fair before the game went final.
But I said, at minimum Schottenheimer one, he's exceeded every expectation. Okay,

(01:42:42):
the Cowboys are obviously in the playoff mix at the
very least. This is what they're a really fun watch
day they are And like, I don't know even when
the Cowboys were winning eleven games a year that they
were as fun of a watch as they are now.
Dak Prescott is playing as well as he has been
the George Pickens. Pickens has not blown up in their
face and you know, this was a guy and I'll

(01:43:04):
include myself. I made fun of the higher you know,
the line I said all offseason was it feels like
there's an inside joke going on on the Cowboys that
they think they're on the inside of, but they're the
butt of the joke. This guy has impressed me. Cowboys
beat the Chiefs on Thanksgiving Day to improve two six'
five and. One and AS i mentioned very much in
the playoff, conversation, yeah, look.

Speaker 1 (01:43:26):
And here's the other. Thing What's Brian schottenheimer known?

Speaker 4 (01:43:29):
For?

Speaker 1 (01:43:31):
Offense? Yep what are The cowboys really good at this? Year?
Offense the play calling has been, Good dak's been. Amazing
to your point About, PICKENS i, Mean pickens, was you,
know a guy that couldn't get out of his own
way a lot In. Pittsburgh as much talent as he,
had he kind of reminded me a lot of What
Jameson williams does when he makes me roll my eyes In.

(01:43:53):
Detroit he's got all sorts of, talent but he still
spins the ball on the opponent's face and does all.
This AND i understand that that helps him play with an,
edge and it's probably one of the reasons he's so,
good but it's also he makes some boneheaded decisions TO
harmss football, team And pickens was kind of volatile hadn't
been In dallas, Though like all of a, sudden him
And Ceedee lamb just living their best life out, here

(01:44:15):
like one of the best tandems in the, league and
they could run. It dak is being protected with the. Football,
yeah the defense is not, good but the side of
the football That Brian schottenheimer has been most responsible for
is crushing it like they are absolutely. DOMINANT i, mean
look at. THIS i, mean they beat the two participants

(01:44:36):
in last Year's Super bowl in four. Days they came
back and beat The eagles On sunday and then beat
The chiefs On. Thursday they're just they're better than they
should be by our own. Estimation, Remember Michaeh parsons doesn't
play for them either. ANYMORE i think they had a
pretty good move a couple moves there at the deadline
For Jerry. JONES i still, think you, know you're probably

(01:44:58):
not better Without Michaeh, parsons but the fact of the
matter is you weren't winning when he was. There whatever
has changed for, Them Brian. Schottenheimer if you were going
to bury him because they were a two win football
team right, now you got to get him some. Flowers
he's done. Well he looks like he has the respect
of the. Team he seems to be running a very
mature professional outfit down. There when you hear him, talk

(01:45:21):
he seems to know what he's doing as, Well like
we may have just gotten this one wrong, eron and
that's all, Right Like i'm not rooting to be right
When i'm talking about somebody's. Failure and so WHEN i
See Brian schottenheimer exceeding expectations and doing a good, JOB i, say,
man good for. Him but you're, right The cowboys had
become so boring in the last four or five. Years

(01:45:43):
it felt, like right now they're one of the most
exciting watches in the. League and offensively they, are can't
miss they.

Speaker 2 (01:45:51):
Are and, YEAH i, mean you know the other thing,
too which was interesting because AND i thought it was
a fair argument at the, time is, that you, Know
mike McCarthy little bit of a loose. Ship you, know
a couple of years they led the league in, penalties you,
know kind of meltdowns at the worst possible. Time whatever
AND i remember it was one of the cowboys that's
ON tv all the. Time maybe it Was Michael, irvin

(01:46:12):
maybe it was somebody. ELSE i can't, remember basically saying, like,
dude now you're just promoting from within that, culture which
was The mike McCarthy. Culture those guys aren't going to respect.
Him AND i bring it up because WHEN i was
filling in For, gottlieb we Had Adam kaplan on the
show AND i don't know if you ever talked To
adam J mart but super plugged IN nfl, guy old,
school Big, jay smart guy. Whatever AND i ACTUALLY i

(01:46:34):
asked him something About schohanenheimer and he said the thing About,
shadi and he did call Him, shody SO i guess
he has some sort of relationship with.

Speaker 3 (01:46:40):
Him he, said think About.

Speaker 2 (01:46:40):
Shady he's an old school like, disciplinarian and LIKE i
guess he's harder on guys THAN i was led to.
Believe LIKE i thought he was just kind of the
guy that's in the lab drawing up, plays you know.
Whatever and it does feel like now, listen they you,
know they have some you, know weird losses throughout the.

(01:47:01):
Season although even their their, LOSSES i think in, hindsight
some of them don't look as. Bad Right they lose
At carolina early in the, year and you're, like, well
you know what About. Carolina well here you, go that Typical.
Cowboys it's, like, Well carolina right now is basically in
the same position That dallas is in the playoff, hunt
in the wildcard, picture the loss of The bears doesn't

(01:47:23):
look nearly as bad as it did in real. Time
SO i Just i'm with, you IS i, am you,
know very impressed by. Him i'm very impressed by THE
i Told bayer this. TOO i don't know if you, agree, disagree.
WHATEVER i actually find The cowboys to be very easy
to root for this. Year, schottenheimer everybody's doubted, Him. Dak

(01:47:47):
i've said it Since, august the way that he just
you never, heard you, KNOW i can't remember a press
conference that he did during The Micah parsons. Thing nothing
negative About, micah nothing negative about the.

Speaker 1 (01:48:00):
Organization, Wise he's extremely, likable LIKE i think he always has.
Been but, YEAH i, mean that's that's a point this
worth making over and over. Again he is an extremely likable.
Superstar and then the only.

Speaker 3 (01:48:10):
Other THING i was gonna say, too.

Speaker 2 (01:48:12):
WAS i don't know if you've yet had and maybe
it's a it's a it's a time, commitment SO i
don't know if you will with two young. Kids but
The cowboys documentary that came out this summer like it
does LIKE i think it. Like the thing THAT i
took out of it, was, Yes jerry's, eccentric and yes
he's frankly, like just call what it is an egomaniac
and a. Narcissist but you can't deny that the guy

(01:48:35):
just wants so bad for The cowboys to be, good
and that basically the years left where they have an
opportunity to do it where he can enjoy it are
few and far.

Speaker 3 (01:48:44):
Between so, ANYWAY i don't mean to get, dire AND
i do think he wants.

Speaker 1 (01:48:47):
To, win BUT i think he still wants to do
it on his terms while being the center of. Attention
AND i.

Speaker 2 (01:48:52):
Don't disagree with, that BUT i bring it up to
SAY i find them to be a very, sympathetic very
and easy to root for, team AND i don't think
you can say that for most of any iteration of
The Dallas cowboys in the last thirty.

Speaker 1 (01:49:04):
YEARS i would say it has to be among the
most just wrong Takes i've had in a. WHILE i
don't think it quite measures up to me thinking that
The rams are going to be bad this. Year, sure
because right NOW i think they're headed to the Super,
bowl but it was based On Matthew stafford's health, largely
so you, know hopefully that's going to continue along the.

(01:49:27):
Way but, man it. Is i'm fine to be wrong
when it's making for better, sports and in this case
it absolutely. Is and again to your, point Like i'd
love to See dak have success Because, dak Just dak
has always rubbed me as somebody that has worked super
hard for, it and he has dealt with the criticism

(01:49:49):
in a very a very mature manner where he's just
kind of been above it and hasn't really reduced himself
to addressing it all that.

Speaker 2 (01:49:57):
Much really, quickly with The chief two games out of
the playoff picture in the lost, column obviously a lot
of teams have not played. Yet, Ironically buffalo is in
seventh place right, now.

Speaker 1 (01:50:10):
Just real.

Speaker 2 (01:50:11):
QUICK i don't think this is like a crazy, take
BUT i think my take is pretty consistent with the last, three, four,
five six. WEEKS i don't think a magic turnaround is.
COMING i just think And i've said this and a
lot of others. Have i'm not claiming it as an original.
Take you go back to The patriots. Dynasty they had
two different dynasties and one the early part that was

(01:50:32):
the you Know Teddy, bruski you know, whoever Ted Teddy,
johnson like those guys. Dynasty and then you had the
part two With gronk And edelman and all those, guys
And Tom brady was a. LYNCHPIN i feel like we
are heading out of phase one With Patrick mahomes and
now you're old and slow in a lot of. Places

(01:50:54):
you gotta get some draft, picks you got to hit
on some draft. Picks you gotta get. YOUNGER i just
don't see it with this, team AND i know we've
said it like literally every week this. YEAR i don't
think that the fix is, coming AND i think they
need to some major overhaul over the next.

Speaker 1 (01:51:08):
Year so one hundred. PERCENT i made the exact same
analogy a couple of days ago WHERE i felt like
this this was kind of The patriots off the. Peak
doesn't mean you can't get there because you have a
lot more youth in terms Of mahomes is still younger
and all, that but, like this feels like a team
that has done it for such a long, time but

(01:51:32):
other teams have come around doing things more dynamically now
THEY i mean they STILL i, mean you look at
like She rice or She rice should be exploding on
your screen even more than he. Is And mahomes is
still Doing mahomes like. Things but this is a team
that just kind of is very. Methodical there's not dynamic stuff.

(01:51:55):
Happening there's not a whole lot of fireworks going. Off
when you watch the Chief they're a boring. Watch to
what we talked about The cowboys being an exciting, Watch
The chiefs have become an extremely boring. Watch and that
reminds me a lot of WHEN i Heard Jim nantz
talking About Julian edelman every two minutes with The patriots
towards the end of that. Run they kind of remind

(01:52:16):
me maybe not even The. Patriots maybe they're kind of
like The San Antonio, spurs where there's still some, talent
But Duncan Slash kelsey is finally starting to age. Out
Even Chris jones starting age out of a little and
he's still a fantastic, player but that defense is Not
it doesn't matter What spagnolo is. Calling some of that
talent's just not shining. Through and there's just there's, younger,

(01:52:38):
faster more just progressive offenses right now that are getting
the job. Done The chiefs just kind of feel like
they almost feel like we're watching them in black and
white because we've seen this for so.

Speaker 2 (01:52:49):
Long i'll tell you, What chiefs may need an, update you,
know the man to give us an. Update STEVE disagera,
yes final time this evening To, sager my, man what
do you?

Speaker 6 (01:52:58):
Got and once again THE espn story IS lsu expecting
to come to terms with Coach Lane kiffen seven year

shock two sources if he didn't sometime Early. Sunday so
our long national nightmar is.

Game the college Football playoff Picture week thirteen of THE.
Nfl let's actually get to, That jay mart really. Quick
you know four games in the. Books you, Know, Chiefs
cowboys are in the, Books Eagles, bears which obviously became

(01:56:52):
a very interesting games in the. Books not a ton
on The Sunday slate in terms of super intriguing. Matchups
one that kind of stands out to. Me first of,
All buffalo And pittsburgh both teams pseudo.

Speaker 3 (01:57:05):
REELING i just.

Speaker 2 (01:57:06):
Mentioned if the playoffs started, Today buffalo would be the seven.
Seed pittsburgh would be THE Afc north champ even though
they lost four out of. Six any strong opinions on this?

Speaker 3 (01:57:17):
One Aaron, rodgers by the, way expected back After Mason
rudolph started last.

Speaker 1 (01:57:21):
Week, YEAH i, MEAN i think it's gonna be a
very physical game because to your, point both of them.
REELING i think they're going to come in there knowing
that they both need a. Victory it's gonna be kind of.
COLD i just ANTICIPATE i anticipate a very chippy football
game between those two. TEAMS i don't know IF i
have a strong opinion on. IT i, MEAN i think

(01:57:42):
The bills are the better, team But akrosher can be
kind of a weird place to. Play on top of,
That i'll Take buffalo to win the. GAME i think
that one will probably be a slobber, knocker.

Speaker 2 (01:57:53):
All, right the opposite of a slaber. Knocker Minnesota vikings
at The Seattle. SEAHAWKS i Mean, seattle you know they
are what they are at this, point. Obviously, look the
story in this game, is you, Know Sam donald revenge
game however you want to call. It BUT jj McCarthy

(01:58:13):
leading The vikings into this game of Course Sam, donald
the Former Minnesota vikings quarterback that The vikings let go
in honor OF jj. McCarthy i don't expect it to
be very. COMPETITIVE i don't know where you.

Speaker 1 (01:58:26):
Stand, Yeah i'm kind of with you on. That it's
kind of fascinating to see more articles being written now
about The vikings potentially moving away FROM jj McCarthy after
this seante, like think about how fast that has. Happened
it's smart people In. MINNESOTA i mean O'Connell knows what
he is. Doing this has gone, very very very, poorly

(01:58:48):
and this is one of those moments you got to
Think Sam donald's probably going to be licking his chops
on this. One And Jackson smith And jigbo right now
is on a completely different planet than just about everybody
else playing football in the, end so could have a
big day against That vikings. Defense.

Speaker 3 (01:59:04):
Yeah, NO i agree with pretty much everything that you
just said with.

Speaker 2 (01:59:08):
McCarthy it's, interesting like there's like some fake Like kevin,
O'Connell like he needs to be held in, Response i'm,
like come, on, man he's great at what he. Does
the organization made a. Mistake whatever should. Mention by the,
