Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Welcome in everybody, Fox Sports Radio, Fox Football Saturday Erritorius,
Jason Martin. We are broadcasting live from the Fox Sports
Radio studios. It is eleven pm Eastern. Everything not even
close to done. That's the best part about co hosting

(00:24):
a show this time of year. We have in South Bend, Indiana,
Notre Dame ranked eighth in the country, up thirty four
to thirty one against Texas A and M. About nine
minutes left. A and M does have the ball. Florida
and LSU is just about final. DJ Lagway cannot stop
throwing the ball to the other team we had. As
de Seger just told you, Old Miss survives. We got

(00:46):
some late college football. It's a busy Saturday in college football.
Jason Martin, how you doing, my man? Everything good?

Speaker 3 (00:54):
Yeah, man, everything is pretty good. This evening window's just
been a blast to watch. They've been some barn burners here. Yeah,
Like you mentioned, LSU Florida is kind of starting to
get away. I guess it pretty much has gotten away.
But this A and M Notre Dame game, the Ole
Miss Arkansas game, there's just there's been a lot of
scoring there's been some big stuff, and of course we
had the incredible game this afternoon, which we're going to

(01:16):
talk about plenty. Maybe when things started this morning, you
started to see a lot of blowouts and it wasn't
particularly interesting outside of one result, and then just the
floodgates have opened and it's become a really fun Saturday
in college football.

Speaker 2 (01:31):
It has become a fun Saturday in college football. I
mentioned that LSU Florida game looks like it's just about over.
LSU up twenty to ten with the ball under two
minutes to go, and again Texas A and M is
driving looking to kick a field goal which would tie
the game up at thirty fourth about nine minutes to go.
In that one. We can't do play by play by
rule here, but we have can't do play by play,

(01:57):
but we do have a tie game. Texas A and
M kicks a field goal thirty four to thirty four
in South bed By the way, this game, I don't
know what's going on in this game. Games started at
seven thirty Eastern time. There's still nine minutes left. Did
I miss something? Was there like a streaker on the
field or I don't know what's going on? But that
game is still going on. As we said, LSU Florida

(02:20):
is just about over LSU gonna win. I think there
are conversations you and I can have about both LSU
and the team they beat in Week one, Clemson. I
don't know if either room is very good, but you
mentioned it. Jmart. Let's go ahead and start with the
top fifteen matchup this afternoon, three thirty Eastern Knoxville, Tennessee.
Georgia and the Tennessee Valls. You know, first of all, Jmart,

(02:43):
I want to start by saying, instant classic, it's hard
to be too critical of either team. Georgia fell down
twenty one to seven, rallies all the way back, they
take the lead. Tennessee takes the lead. Tennessee's up thirty
eight thirty with about seven eight minutes to go. Georgia

(03:04):
ties it unbelievable pitch and catch from Gunner Stockton, then
they convert the two point conversion. Tennessee gets in field
goal range. They miss a field goal at the end
of regulation. We'll talk about that in a minute. Georgia
wins in overtime. So one, it does feel like it's
too hard to criticize either team. It was an unbelievable game.

(03:25):
But I'll also say this, and you're better to speak
to this than I will be. You live in Tennessee.
You know a lot of Balls fans, including one I
believe that lives under your roof. Take us through the
final minute with josh Hipel, because again there was a
field goal that would have won the game in regulation.
It was missed, and I know a lot of people

(03:45):
are frustrated with josh Hipel for people who miss the
end of the game, take us through it. The frustration.
Is it justified? Is it not? With Joshipel. By the way, quickly,
there's a little skirmish at the end of the Florida
LSU game. Florida they're great at committing penalty that cost
them dumb things, but LSU's taking a kne to officially
win that game. But Jamark tell us how regulation ended

(04:07):
for Tennessee, Georgia, and how frustrated ballfans should be with
josh Hipel.

Speaker 3 (04:13):
I think that this is one of those games where
whoever lost was going to have an argument that they
should have won because it was just a heavyweight fight.
It was it was two great teams. I sent you
a message very early within the first minute or so
of the game and said, by the way, I'm picking
Tennessee to win this game. I don't know how george
is going to stop their offense, and largely they didn't,

(04:34):
although they did make a couple of adjustments, and after
the twenty one to seven score things did settle down.
There were some stops and then it kind of exploded again.
But both teams were making big plays and allowing big plays,
and it was just it was so much fun to watch.
But that last minute, it just seemed like Josh Hipel
got awfully conservative first off when you convert that third

(04:56):
down play, that right there felt like the football game,
like as soon as Aguilar was able to find his
receiver on the left side by the sideline and move
the sticks, making Georgia go ahead and burn all this timeouts,
and then Tennessee continued to chew up more yardage after
that on the ground, but when they could not get
off the field, Georgia's defense could not get off the field.

(05:18):
There in that last minute and a half two minute span,
it felt like, all right, well, Tennessee's gonna go win
this game. I'm gonna turn out to be right about this,
and then came just a weird sequence of events where
it felt like time stood still, hypel. I don't know
if he got gun shy or what it was, but
it seemed like he blinked. And there were a couple

(05:40):
of times in this game, and you mentioned one of
them to me earlier, and this was earlier in the
game where they just kept running it and not going
for the kill shot. Right, They weren't going for that
big time play that could blow this thing open and
potentially in the game real quick.

Speaker 2 (05:54):
Let me let me set that up and then we'll
go to the final play. So Tennessee again, they were
up twenty one seven. Georgia, to their credit, comes all
the way back. I think they score twenty unanswered at
one point, and they take a twenty seven to twenty
one lead. Okay, So I bring it up because to
their credit, Tennessee comes all the way back. Tennessee's up

(06:15):
thirty five to thirty, and they force a fumble deep inside.
You know, Georgia was in their own territory, okay, And
so it's a fumble deep inside Georgia's own territory and
Tennessee is up five and this is with about three
minutes to go, and I felt like, Okay, I understand

(06:38):
that a field goal here puts you up by eight,
and of course that means that Georgia would have to
score and then convert the two point conversion. But I
did think, you know, Josh Eipel has a reputation. I
did think, hey, do you take one shot at the
end zone to try to just seal this game? You get,
you're up thirty five to thirty, you put in a touchdown,
it's forty two to thirty, with about you know, two

(07:00):
and a half minutes to go. The game is essentially
over three straight runs. They kick the field goal, they
go up eight and by the way, and then Georgia
comes back, scores the touchdown and the two point conversion,
which then sets up the scenario where Tennessee, as we
were saying, a second ago is in field goal range
late with a chance to kick the game winning field goal.

Speaker 3 (07:20):
Yeah. So to your point about Hypel having a reputation
when they're running tempo and he's being aggressive and forcing
the issue there as impressive as anybody has been in
the last five years. I don't mean this year, I
mean during Hypel's tenure they've been almost unstoppable, like it's breathless.
It reminds you a lot of what you saw Chip

(07:40):
Kelly do at Oregon, where it would almost be exhausting
to watch them play because you couldn't even catch your
breath watching the game much less. Defense is trying to
adjust substitutions, all those kinds of things. So when you're
not actually forcing the issue, it does it shows up
more like you notice it quickly, like you've noticed it

(08:01):
in that sequence, and I noticed it in that sequence
there in the end, when they got close, he just decided,
we're gonna play for this field goal and win it. Now,
I understand a field goal could win it, but here's
a kicker who was four of eight from distance, still
a young player, had not had a ton of experience
kicking the ball in that game, and the environment and

(08:21):
the pressure, you just can't simulate that. Her herstory said
that on the broadcast, like you can't simulate that no
matter how many times you practice it, no matter how
many times you nail it in rehearsal, Like once you
get there in that game, it's just a completely different animal.
And for whatever reason, with seven seconds left in the game,
Hypol decides to run a play, they get a false

(08:43):
start and so that pushes him back five yards. They
take forever. It seems like it seems like it takes
ten minutes for this poor kid to get out there
and try to make this kick, and then he goes ahead,
misses it, and it wasn't a long kick, it wasn't
the shortest kick, but it's a kick at college kicker

(09:05):
is supposed to make, especially at home with the game
on the line. Because you know how I know that
because he made the one in overtime that was almost identical.
So Hypel essentially iced his own kicker. It is very
hard to be critical of Josh Hipel because, my goodness,
what was Tennessee before he got there. That was a

(09:26):
job nobody wanted. And when Hypel got hired, I was
on the radio that morning, hosting here in Nashville, and
I remember taking call after call after call of people like, man,
we've fallen so far. We've ended up with Joshipel as
our coach, and Hypel has been magnificent for them. And
I literally read after this game in a couple of

(09:47):
forums Tennessee fans saying he may have reached his stealing
here at Tennessee. It's like, Hue quiet, be very very quiet.
That's still Georgia. You should have won the game, Make
no mistake. I do think you should have won the game.
But it was a kick and it took Georgia on
fourth down throwing a crazy touchdown pass into the end zone,

(10:10):
then converting a two point conversion and your kicker missing
the potential game winner for them to escape your building
with that win. Like I don't hypel may may have
not helped his cause and not helped his kicker's cause
there in the end, right, and and your example also
rings true. But man, they're close. Man, they're really good.

(10:34):
And and here's the other thing. It's hard not to
notice this, Uh, the quarterback that they have know exactly
where I'm headed with this right. Yeah, of course he
is unquestionably, like no hyperbole, a far better player than

(10:57):
the guy that was trying to get a ton of
money from them that now is playing at UCLA. And
UCLA had that guy. And yes, I understand Aguilar didn't
have the same kind of talent at UCLA that he
has a Tennessee. I get it. But if you look
at Aguilar's story, a zero star quarterback. That dude looks
like he was born to run Josh Hypel's system. He's

(11:18):
great over the middle, he's great on those intermediate routes.
He gets the ball out of his hands quickly, He's accurate,
seemingly most of the time. He seems poised. Nothing's rattling him.
I'm watching this and I'm like, we were worried going
into the season that probably Tennessee wasn't gonna make the
playoff because this quarterback thing was going to be a mess. Nope, Nope,

(11:38):
not at all. Aguilar has proven everything that he needs
to prove. Now, the schedule's gonna be what it's gonna
be for them going forward. But this is one of
those games where you were watching two teams that should
be in the college football playoff and unquestionably two of
the best teams in the country.

Speaker 2 (11:53):
Yeah, you know, especially watching the rest of the SEC.
And this isn't like an ant oh the SEC socks,
but it's like the teams that we thought are gonna
be good. You know, Texas, We're gonna get to it
about five minutes from now. They got some questions, LSU,
do they maybe just one question? It's just that quarterback.
That's the problem, you know. Uh, let's see here, Uh whatever,

(12:16):
what was I gonna say?

Speaker 3 (12:17):
Uh? I was gonna say LS.

Speaker 2 (12:22):
Yeah, LSU is three and oh all of a sudden,
that week one win doesn't look nearly as good. But
I would say this is like I was going through
in my head. By the way, Texas A and M
is tied with Notre Dame right now, they look pretty legit,
although Notre Dame is in field goal range in this game.
But yeah, no, I don't like there isn't some Tennessee

(12:43):
is in dire crisis after this game. But man, oh man,
that was one that you just you wanted to have.

Speaker 3 (12:51):
It did.

Speaker 2 (12:51):
Let me ask you this tomorrow, well even tonight. Is
it more about Georgia winning or is it more about
Tennessee losing the game? I mean, Kirby Smart, we didn't
get the audio. That's my bad. I meant to send
it to producer Ian Here. Kirby Smart said on the
field after the game, Tennessee deserved to win that game.
But I just look at it, like you know, I mean,

(13:13):
like we said with Georgia, you had to go in
under two minutes, the length of the field kick a
field goal or score and get the two point conversion
that was after falling down twenty one to seven. Maybe
I'm just totally misreading this. This feels to me. I think, listen,
you can absolutely make the argument Tennessee lost it, because

(13:34):
Kirby Smartin made that argument. But the counter to it is, like, man,
Georgia made a lot of plays, and I don't want
to not give them credit for what they did on Saturday.
If that makes sense.

Speaker 3 (13:44):
Yeah, I mean, we get we can't forget that Gunner
Stockton played great did in this football game, made some
big time plays. He showed serious poise. Both the quarterbacks
played well. They both deserve credit, Both teams deserve credit.
A lot of guys played great games on both sides.
It was just a wonderful sporting event.

Speaker 2 (14:03):
It really was.

Speaker 3 (14:04):
It was a great game all the way around. I
think that I look at Georgia as Tennessee's version of Michigan.
For Ohio State right now, they just can't quite get
over the hump. But they're still really good, right I mean,
Ohio State won the national championship last year, but they
couldn't beat Michigan in a year where they absolutely should
have beaten Michigan and so they're looking ahead to that. Well,

(14:26):
it's been since the you know, it's called the Dobnail Booth,
the Big Josh Dobbs play to beat Georgia, and I
think it was twenty sixteen when which Jones was still
the coach at Tennessee. Since then, it's been all Georgia
all the time. And there have been a couple of
instances where you could argue Tennessee was a better team,
and on this day, I think that Tennessee should have
probably won that football game. But ultimately Georgia is still

(14:50):
kind of that boogeyman sometimes, at least they are for Tennessee.
So I don't know that it's one narrative that's going
to dominate the other. I think it depends on your perspective,
because I think that Georgia I saw this all right.
So I went to the forum on the Athletic where
I could kind of just look at both fan bases
and what they were saying because they were engaged in
one conversation and outside of the usual insults and all

(15:14):
that kind of stuff, I saw more comments from Georgia
fans who even had Georgia as their team of choice
mentioned in their name that we're saying Tennessee was better
and they should have beaten us today. I think that
is probably the lasting takeaway from the game, is that
Tennessee was better on this day. And I think the

(15:36):
other probably biggest and bigger, bigger takeaway than all of that,
is Georgia fans recognized now the same thing that Alabama
fans recognized about two years ago. They've caught us.

Speaker 2 (15:49):
Yep.

Speaker 3 (15:50):
And by they, I mean a multitude of teams, but
Tennessee certainly being one, with Tennessee beating Alabama in twenty
twenty two having the opportunity to beat Georgia today. But
there's a couple of other teams, Like there was a
moment there where it was Georgia and then the rest
of the country. That moment has passed. Okay, this college
football landscape has changed all of that.

Speaker 2 (16:10):
J Mart, I don't mean to go, well, oh my goodness,
we got a.

Speaker 3 (16:14):
Lot going on it again. I'm behind you on the clocks.

Speaker 2 (16:16):
Okay, so I'm going to ruin this for you. Notre Dame,
Texas A and M was tied at thirty four. We
are at about the under three minute mark. Notre Dame
just scores, misses a pat to go up forty to
thirty ensuing kick. Let's see Texas A and M takes

(16:37):
it back for a touchdown.

Speaker 3 (16:40):
However, laundry.

Speaker 2 (16:42):
There is laundry on the field. There is a holding call.
The touchdown will not stand, so we have one Top
twenty matchup remaining. Notre Dame has taken the lead forty
to thirty four in South Bend. Forty to thirty four
in South Bend. Texas A and M returns the ensuing kick.

(17:03):
This is about under three minutes to go for a touchdown.
There as a hole, so Texas A and M will
get the ball back. A touchdown and extra point will
win them the game. There's two forty one left. I
didn't mean to cut you off, but I thought Texas
A and M had just taken the leads.

Speaker 3 (17:17):
So look at you know what? That actually might be
a blessing in disguise. In a game where both teams
are moving the football, the last thing that you want
to do is take a one point lead, give them
the ball back with the opportunity to drown the clock,
potentially kick a game winning field goal or score with
no time left to beat you because this happened. Yes,
you have to go score now, but you control the

(17:38):
clock like you technically can make this much harder on
Notre Dame and not give them nearly as much time.
That may be me thinking glass half full for Texas
A and M here, but neither one of these teams
has proven they can stop the other one. Tonight, no
looks no.

Speaker 2 (17:53):
Indeed, Texas A and M. They were just showing a replay.
It was hard for me to see just how, you know,
egregious the hold was. But it doesn't seem like they're
very egregious, right, well.

Speaker 3 (18:03):
Yeah, pretty egregious. He pulled him down.

Speaker 2 (18:05):
I'll tell you what Texas A and M has just
crossed the fifty. A pass from Marso Reid to Mario
Craver about the two minute time out. We're closing it
on the two minute timeout. So I'll tell you what
Fisher can coach after a whole week, you know, I'll
tell you this, bro, I'll say this. I was watching
Colorado Houston last night. Connor Wigman and Houston are three,

(18:25):
and oh Haines King is three, and oh yes it is.

Speaker 3 (18:29):
He looked good. He looked real good. He's awesome.

Speaker 2 (18:31):
No, I listen, that was a guy that I I
just gave up on. Turns out, the ten million dollars
a year coach just might not have known what he's
doing because he had both those guys in his quarterback room.
And we're way off subject now.

Speaker 3 (18:44):
But he matter.

Speaker 1 (18:46):
Man.

Speaker 3 (18:46):
This is college football, this is the recapture. This is
what we do. Man. We just go wherever we feel.

Speaker 2 (18:50):
We go wherever we feel like. And it is worth
noting Haines King did knock off Clemson. I'll tell you what,
why don't we come back? We'll talk about that, and
we got to talk about you know, cave club Nick
certainly not looking like a first rounder. You know who
else isn't arch Manning. Oh, we're we're doing the Jason
We're doing the arch Manning talk. I want everybody to
sit down, have a deep breath. The intervention is coming

(19:13):
for Texas fans. Arch Manning might not be the savior
that you think. We'll discuss that next eron Torris Jason

Week two's coming up. We got plenty to preview. So
fired up about Week two. Jeff Schwartz, Bill Krakenberger, Brian

(21:01):
kicking you know what and taking names. This A and
M Notre Dame game certainly getting interesting. Notre Dame or
excuse me, Notre Dame's up forty to thirty four. A
and M gets into the red zone. Back to back
false starts now has them at third and sixteen with
forty six seconds to go. They don't want to move

(21:23):
on to like a super major topic while this game
is going on.

Speaker 3 (21:26):
May become one.

Speaker 2 (21:27):
Yeah, well it's maybe coome one. It's a top twenty
matchup for people just joining us.

Speaker 3 (21:31):
Notre Dame.

Speaker 2 (21:32):
UH scored with just over two minutes to go. Pat
bad Snap bobbled. Pat was no good. So that's how
the forty to thirty four has come about. A and
M returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown. There was
a hold and it was called back. I'll tell you what, Jamart,

(21:54):
there's just a lot of laundry on the field right now.
A and M just completed a pass again, it was
third and sixteen, but there are multiple flags on the play.
Notre name seems to think it's on A and M.
But of course, every time you commit a penalty, you
think that.

Speaker 3 (22:12):
They thought that a lot in the last.

Speaker 2 (22:13):
I was gonna say, every time you commit a penalty,
you try to convince it. You know everybody that. Yeah,
so we had defensive holding. So A and M's going
to have the ball deep in Notre Dame territory. New
set of downs and with it.

Speaker 3 (22:28):
This what I was talking about, man Like, if they
run that kickback, then Notre Dame has a ton of
time and A and M hasn't been able to stop
them much tonight right on the flip side. Now they've
had to walk down the field and it's been kind
of a knockdown, drag out kind of drive. But now
they get the benefit of this whistle as well. And
now you're looking at under forty seconds and yet Notre

(22:49):
Dame has all three of their timeouts. But how much
good is that going to do them? It's first in gold,
they're going to have to start calling them here because
I imagine A and M is going to run it
right at them.

Speaker 2 (22:58):
Now yeah, well, well they're running right at them. But
they do still need the touchdown. So you know, it's weird.
Do you call the time out? Somebody did call the
time out. It looks like A and M. I would
guess probably called that time out. It's so tricky because
to your point, if you're A and M, you need
a touchdown. It's not like you need a field goal.

Speaker 3 (23:15):
You can't, like, you can't drown the clock and end
up kicking a field goal. That's true.

Speaker 2 (23:20):
So we are at forty to thirty four, thirty four
seconds left. Tell you what, j Mart, why don't we
Why don't we get it over? Maybe to the news
desk for the first time this evening, Steve Disagre. I've
told the world about Texas, A and M and Notre Dame.
Why don't you tell us about everything else that has
happened throughout the busy day in college football?

Speaker 6 (23:41):
Team don't think we can get everything, but this is
one of the great aspects of Saturday night with college football.

Speaker 2 (23:47):
We love doing it.

Speaker 6 (23:48):
So much happened and so much is going on Vanderbilt
wins at number eleven South Carolina thirty one to seven.
AP says the Vandy win tonight was its most lopsided
against an APRAND team since nineteen fifty five, Wow, when
they beat Kentucky Man.

Speaker 3 (24:04):
That was when the clock tower taken out in the
Hill Valley. Man. It's been a long time.

Speaker 6 (24:09):
Coming, and this was seven to seven late in the
first half. Now, South Carolina quarterback Leonora Sellers did leave
after a hit to the head. South Carolina finished with
four turnovers. Number twelve Clemson was beaten today on a
fifty five yard field goal on the final play at
Georgia Tech twenty four to twenty one. As you mentioned,
Number six Georgia a comeback winner in overtime at Tennessee

(24:31):
forty four forty one. Tonight, Number three LSU beat Florida
twenty to ten. As DJ lagway, the Gators through five interceptions,
including a pick six. At number one Ohio State, the
Buckeyes led Ohio you thirteen to nine early third quarter
thirty seven nine. The final easy wins for Penn State
and Oregon and number five Miami beat eighteenth thranks South

(24:52):
Florida forty nine to twelve. Seventh ranked Texas down UTEP
twenty seven to ten. Number nine Illinois thirty eight eight
nothing over Western Michigan. It was ten nothing early in
the third quarter, and as you mentioned, Texas A and
m is driving. They're down to the eleven yard line
of Notre Dame, a third and goal coming up down six.
Irish forty to thirty four over the Aggies under thirty

(25:16):
seconds left in this one. Old miss Tonight won forty
one thirty five over Arkansas Mississippi, ranked seventeenth in the country.

Speaker 2 (25:24):
In the second quarter.

Speaker 6 (25:25):
Alone, there were combined forty five points very entertaining game,
easy wins for Oklahoma and Alabama. For Michigan and Missouri,
Texas Tech and Auburn got victories. Iowa State, ranked fourteenth,
won twenty four to sixteen at Arkansas State. Cyclones' lead
was seventeen sixteen with nine minutes to go. Number twenty

(25:45):
Utah led three nothing in the third at Wyoming utes
went at thirty one to six. And by the way,
next Saturday, the noon Eastern time kickoff on Fox TV
is Texas Tech at Utah. Texas Tech was in that
home life lightning delay of over two hours early and
eventually beat up Oregon State. Purdue had a lightning delay
of over three hours at the start, USC eventually beat them.

(26:09):
The Miami home game had a lightning delay of about
an hour forty five in the first half, and then
the Hurricanes rip South Florida. Among the other games going well,
we do have a late game coming up at Hawaii,
of course, that is still a half hour away. Hawaii
will be hosting Portland State. Arizona State has just scored
to go up seventeen to three on Texas State in
the second. Boston College has just scored to go up

(26:31):
seventeen to six at Stanford in the second, and we've
got Cal leading Minnesota seven to nothing in the second quarter.
North Texas fifty nine to ten over Washington State a
final today, and Virginia Tech was down at home to
Old Dominion thirty eight to seven going to the fourth quarter.

(26:52):
ODU wins tonight forty five to twenty six. Virginia Tech
is winless. SMU was down ten to nothing at Missouri
Dates in the first half. SMU did win twenty eight
to ten. West Virginia in overtime beat Pitt thirty one
twenty four, and for what it's worth. It was North
Carolina over Richmond forty one to six to Major League Baseball.

(27:14):
The Milwaukee Brewers have tied it up against the Cardinals
at seven to seven on Fox TV Top of the tenth.
Brewers got two runs in the eighth and three in
the ninth to even things. And the Brewers have already
qualified for the playoffs because the not so amazing Mets
have lost again. Texas beat them three to two, with
two in the eighth one in the night. The Mets
have lost eight in a row. The Phillies meanwhile, won

(27:36):
their six in a row, so the Phillies' magic number
to clinch the division is down to one. We still
have over two weeks left in the season. Yankees in
Toronto each one, Houston and Tampa Bay with wins. The
WNBA playoffs starts Sunday, and we do have boxing in
Las Vegas tonight with Canelo Alvarez later against Terrence Crawford.
They are still in the prelimbs Texas, A and m update. Unbelievably,

(28:01):
that looks like a touchdown pass, guys watching it.

Speaker 3 (28:04):
Live right now on my screen, and.

Speaker 6 (28:07):
Extra point would win at eleven yard TD Insanity Yeah.

Speaker 2 (28:12):
Down to their final play, fourth down.

Speaker 6 (28:15):
Deep, fifteen seconds left.

Speaker 3 (28:17):
Yep.

Speaker 2 (28:17):
Notre Dame I think took two of its two. They
took what one it looks like one of their timeouts
to set up the perfect defense and Texas A and
M has just scored a pat wins it. Remember Notre
Dame missed the pat on the ensuing.

Speaker 6 (28:32):
Drive that was with under three minutes left, missing an
extra point. Notre Dame should have been up by seven.

Speaker 2 (28:38):
Should have been up by seven. An interesting scenario here.
A and M has not kicked the pat yet, but
Notre Dame if they go to zero to two. If
you look at their schedule, they don't really have a
lot of big games left on their schedule if they've
of course lost to Miami.

Speaker 6 (28:53):
Yet because Boise State was on the schedule, and what
is that game now? And produce the next game, and.

Speaker 2 (28:58):
We officially have a pat conversion. A and M is
up forty one to forty with thirteen seconds to go. Unbelievable,
segury missed anything.

Speaker 6 (29:12):
Well, there's more in just over an hour.

Speaker 2 (29:15):
Okay, we got plenty of time. I'll tell you what.
Fox Sports Radio Air Tours Jason Martin Broadcasting live from
the Fox Sports Radio studios. Texas A and M on
the road has just scored with thirteen seconds to go.
The pat is good. Guess what I think, Texas A
and M. You know there's still thirteen seconds. Notre Dame

(29:36):
has two timeouts, but.

Speaker 3 (29:38):
They have one right what? Uh? You know?

Speaker 2 (29:41):
I don't know. I thought they took the seat again.

Speaker 3 (29:43):
I thought Notre Dame took two in a row.

Speaker 2 (29:45):
I thought they did two, but then I also saw
that they had two still available.

Speaker 3 (29:53):
I don't know, but they're gonna be throwing the football anyway.
It's probably not gonna matter.

Speaker 2 (29:56):
I was gonna say, I don't know how with thirteen
seconds left. I mean unless Patrick Mahomes. You know, I
don't know how much it matters. But Marcel Reid with
the touchdown pass, tell you what, why don't we come back?
Put a bow on this game? At some point we'll
talk arch Manning Texas A and up Texas A and
M up forty one to forty with thirteen seconds left,

(30:17):
will come back give you a final here talk arch
Manning Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (30:25):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 2 (30:29):
Welcome back, everybody, Fox Sports Radio. Er towards Jason Martin
broadcasting live from the Fox Sports Radio studios. It is
a final in South Bend, Texas. A and M the
game winning score with thirteen seconds left. Notre Dame had

(30:49):
scored with about three minutes to go to take the
forty to thirty four lead. Just under three minutes, they
missed the pat to go up forty one to third
to go out forty one thirty four. A and M
returns the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown. It's called back
because of a hold an M, though not deterred, thirteen

(31:12):
play seventy four yard drive two forty off the clock
and Marcel Reid to Nate bor Kershier tight end gets
to victory forty one to forty A and M three
and oh. As they get set to open SEC play
in two weeks, they actually have a bye. They play

(31:34):
Auburn at home in two weeks the Notre Dame fighting
Irish OH and two. They lost in week one to
the Miami Hurricanes twenty seven to twenty four, and they
lose by one in this game. Jamon, I'm gonna give
you the floor thoughts on this one.

Speaker 3 (31:55):
I mean, it's a really big win for A and M.
On the road. I mean, that's gonna carry lot of
weight for Notre Dame. You find yourself zero and two
into really close games that just haven't gone your way.
But and you mentioned this before the break, I think
the biggest problem, the biggest concern if you're a Notre
Dame fan, is how exactly do you impress the committee now?

(32:19):
Because of their unique circumstance in terms of their non
conference affiliation and all those other kinds of things, they
don't get the benefit of maybe having something that could
be impressive at the very end of the season. So
when you go down and you look at the remainder
of their schedule, the two games that they have lost
are those kind of games that they needed in order

(32:41):
to buttress their resume. And so you look at them
now and it's just what's going to make them stand
out other than the fact that they were pretty They
were really good last year and got to the doorstep
of the national championship. But that's going to carry no
weight now. So I mean, this is this is not
a good situation for Notre Dame to be in right
now because they just the leverage is not on their side.

(33:05):
I don't know exactly I mean, look, they're gonna need
some help. I think they're gonna need some other teams
to falter around. And luckily for them, their do tend
to be a lot of the teams that maybe going
into the season maybe they're great. No, they turn out
to be good, and those teams that you thought were
gonna be good, maybe they're just pretty good. And maybe
the teams you thought were gonna be pretty good or
just average like that's that's kind of the year. Like

(33:28):
there are I don't know who the true standout is
that you just look at it and you just think, well,
they're just so much better than everybody else. I think
that that that could play to their advantage. But for
A and M, you know, when we were making our predictions,
I almost put them in the playoffs ended up not
going there. I went with South Carolina, who lost tonight

(33:50):
with Leonora's sellers going down and when it was still
a seven point game, and then Vanderbilt blew it open.
After that, you picked Florida, and that's not working out
thus far either. Both of us probably should have gone
with A and M because they just look like a
professional team.

Speaker 1 (34:06):
You go in and you win.

Speaker 3 (34:07):
In South Bend the way that they won that football game.
That Look, Georgia went on the road and won a
tough one against Tennessee and then you see the exact
same thing happen with Texas. A and M going to
South Bend and beating Notre Dame. Those are two playoff
teams from last year. You go on the road and
you beat those two teams. That's that's impressive. But I

(34:28):
think the lasting story here is more about Notre Dame
being winless than it is A and M being undefeated
at this point, because we do think A and M
will take a blemish or two before the end of
the year.

Speaker 2 (34:41):
Yeah, so first of all, you know, you mentioned both
teams that kind of felt you know, I hate when
we kind of do that like we did in college basketball.
Sometimes there would be like a good like November, like
Duke game, and it's like, oh it was Duke Kansas.
Oh that felt like a tournament game in November. But
it's like that felt like a college football playoff game,
like two very good teams, pretty evenly matched. You know,

(35:04):
that felt like what would be like an eight to
nine game in a college football playoff or what we
presume will be you know, going forward. Yeah, to me,
I think the big story has to be Notre Dame.
I mean, the only saving grace is that both of
those games could have gone the other way. Three point
loss to Miami, one point loss to Texas A and
m at home. You know, I think this is cliche

(35:27):
and obvious, but you you now, if you're a Notre
Dame fan, I think you have to become the biggest
Miami fan that's ever existed. You gotta be the biggest
Texas A and m fan that's ever existed. And I
but you know, I think the problem you know, with this,
and it's it's super obvious, but it's just even if
you go ten and two, like, what is the game

(35:49):
that you're going to hold your hat on?

Speaker 3 (35:51):
Right?

Speaker 2 (35:51):
Because? And the other thing too, And I think we
might have talked about this when it happened, but you know,
they tweaked a little bit the college football playoffs election
process where they have this new you know, strength of
record or I think it's called record strength stat which
basically basically we can go ahead and call it the
Indiana corolary, Like basically they put it in because Indiana

(36:14):
didn't play anybody last year in the out of conference.
They didn't play anybody in conference either, but they didn't
even try to schedule anybody out of conference. And basically
everybody that got left out argued like, well, if we
just decided not to play anybody in the out of conference,
then you know we could have had a better record. Whatever.
But I just bring it up because you know, there's
this record strength metric where basically, like you know, if

(36:38):
a really good SEC team or Big ten team goes,
say nine to three, and like you know, like say,
let's just take Oklahoma for example, Oklahoma still has on
its schedule Alabama, LSU, Tennis, CE, you know, Missouri, who
might be good, Old miss who's undefeated on and on
Auburn by the way, next week, who's good. It's like,

(36:59):
we're not supposed to punish Oklahoma for going nine to
three against a really tough schedule. And I just think
the counter would be Notre Dame, which is, even if
you go ten and two, even if you have two
good even if you have two good quote unquote losses,
are there going to be any good wins on the schedule.
And I think that's where it gets tricky for Notre

(37:19):
Dame because I just don't know, you know, are you
gonna have any wins that stack up at the end
of the year. It's it's gonna be tough, you know. Listen,
I know we're you know, in this twelve team playoff era,
we're not supposed to overreact in week two, week three, whatever,
But Notre Dame. I think it's it's hard to see
the scenario. They're gonna have to have a lot of

(37:40):
teams lose a lot of games, and they're basically gonna
have to win out from this point on to make
that college football playoff.

Speaker 3 (37:45):
Yeah, and you know that's that's just a tough go,
it really is. And then you still are not necessarily
even guaranteed depending on what happens around you. You know,
there's some teams that came into the season that you
felt pretty good about that you're already looking at sideways
kind of like, are they even gonna be in the
twelve team? Notre Dame's one of them, and the other one,

(38:06):
you know.

Speaker 2 (38:07):
We haven't say let's do it now.

Speaker 3 (38:08):
Yeah. Yeah, And maybe we'll end up carrying this over
into the second hour of the show. But look, man,
who is your national championship pick? This year.

Speaker 2 (38:16):
Man, you're just dragging me, but I deserve well, no not,
I mean because this is just to point out that
a lot of people had this same feeling.

Speaker 3 (38:23):
Yeah, going into the year. This is not dogging on you.
I was big on Clemson. I said, I almost got
to the exact same place that you did. This Clemson team,
this they had a lot of talent and kay Klubnick
is supposed to be the guy and we all believed
in him. They they lost to an LSU team I'm
not sure is great. And this thing against Georgia Tech

(38:45):
man like Andy, they could have lost to.

Speaker 2 (38:48):
Troll That's what I'm saying. O't for you, sixteen to three.
They were down at the half.

Speaker 3 (38:51):
They have yet to be impressive at all this season.

Speaker 2 (38:54):
Yeah, and I you know, and I don't think it's
gonna get better. Like if you watch the game, yeah,
Club Nick had a pick in the red zone, but
it's like if you watch the game, specifically the run game,
it just feels like they don't have a run game.
Club Nick ran the ball himself seventeen times, and it's
just like you can't rely on the quarterback to do

(39:17):
that much. I just I just think I completely misevaluated them,
and they're a perfect example of a team where and
you know it's funny, Martin and Monci were on before us,
and I was talking to them kind of in the
studio when we were switching over, and it's like, again,
you don't want to overreact to one week one or
two or three weeks of the season, cause I understand
that this is a twelve team playoff era, but it's

(39:38):
just like, what are the wins gonna be that Clemsy
can rack up? Now they do play Florida State, and
maybe South Carolina bounces back, but it just Clemson is
the perfect example we say, we're not supposed to overreact
right now. To me, it looks like Clemson will essentially
probably have to win out and win the ACC to
make the College Football Playoff.

Speaker 3 (39:59):
Yeah, and do we really feel confident that's even gonna happen.
I don't either.

Speaker 2 (40:04):
I mean that Florida State might just be good.

Speaker 3 (40:07):
Still, that's very possible. Yeah, still got either way, it
doesn't look good for Clemson.

Speaker 2 (40:10):
Now you still got Florida State. That game is at
home in early November at Louisville and then of course
at South Carolina, and the regular season, as de Segre
just told you at South Carolina. South Carolina lost on
Saturday night, by the way wild game in Paulo Alto, California.
We got the acc after dark. BC was up seventeen

(40:31):
to nothing on Stanford. It is now twenty to seventeen
as we close it on halftime. Fox Sports Radio Era
Tours Jason Martin, Well, come back. We got to talk
some NFL. J mart We'll talk Arch Manning at some
point hour two as well. Fox Sports Radio.

Just search Fox Sports Radio on YouTube and subscribe. Jay Marta,
you know I'm in a tricky position here as the
driver of this show. A lot of college football to
react to, a lot of NFL to react to as well.
I don't know what to do. I'm torn. I want

(41:32):
to keep talking college football. I'll tell you what. Why
don't we come back in about twenty minutes and we'll
talk Arch Manning. But I know there are some people
that want to hear some NFL because we got one.
What do you think you want to talk a little
NFL for about fifteen minutes here? We'll do some ARCH
on the other end, or should we just do Arch
right now?

Speaker 5 (41:51):
No?

Speaker 3 (41:51):
That works?

Speaker 2 (41:51):
Yeah, that's all I'm thinking too. We'll switch gears a
little bit. We'll come back to Arch in a few minutes.
But Week one is in the books. And listen. Obviously
you've heard all sorts of coverage you know, across these
Fox Sports at radio airwaves over the last week. But listen, man,
it was so good to have football back all day
Sunday last week, obviously, Thursday, Friday, Sunday and Monday this week.

(42:15):
Thursday started off with a bang. The Packers looked awesome.
Two Monday night games this week, by the way, So
in addition to a jam packed Sunday, we have two
Monday night games. I'll tell you what, Mary, give us
a little music, put us in the mood. Let's do
some Week one overreactions. J mart I will give you
the floor first on your week one overreactions.

Speaker 3 (42:36):
My week one over reactions. This is one of those
where I'm just trying to tell myself, hey man, slow
your role. You do this every year. You get excited
about something or you get completely disappointed and dejected about something,
and you do your best, but you end up you
end up saying this guy's gonna be the MVP, and
then owned by like week six, Russell Wilson's out of the.

Speaker 2 (42:57):
Run, He's out of the league.

Speaker 3 (42:58):
Yeah, yeah, like something like that. So I would say
probably my biggest like I want to I want to
slow down and give this time, but I'm having trouble.
I understand Green Bay is supposed to be pretty good,
like it seems like they are so far this year,
still early. I am worried about the Detroit Lions. I

(43:20):
am watching a team that lost both its coordinators and
that offense just did not look very good last week. Now, again,
I understand it's Green Bay. They've looked impressive, but I
don't think they're juggernauts. And there was nothing about that
Detroit performance a week ago that inspired a lot of

(43:41):
confidence in me, and my first overreaction is that I'm
not so sure about this lion's here.

Speaker 2 (43:49):
Well, i'll tell you what I think. That was a
lot of people's biggest takeaway from Week one. You know,
you go back to that game, Green Bay was up
twenty four to six, twenty seven to six. Excuse me,
midway through the third quarter, garbage time touchdown. It was garbage.
It was a great catch by Isaac Tesla, but it
was a garbage time touchdown. The biggest thing is to

(44:13):
me one, well, really two things. One the actual rushing
attack forty six yards rushing, twenty two rush attempts, two
yards per carry. Listen, I try not to be, you know,
scheme expert guy or whatever, because I don't know more
than the dude who do this for a living. And

(44:33):
I think hopefully everybody in the audience understands that. The
counter to that is that it didn't look like there
was a lot of motion. It didn't look like there
was a lot of creativity. The one thing that and
we'll talk about Ben Johnson in a minute, that he
did so well. There's just so much misdirection and all
those speedy guys Jamiir Gibbs, Jamison Williams, I'm on Russ

(44:55):
Daint Brown. It was just there were so many creative
ways to get them the ball, and I just didn't
see any of that last weekend. J mart So, I
want to get to some other takeaways, but I want
to stay on the Lions for a second. That offense
just looked unoriginal and uninspired in week one of I
guess Johnny Morton I believe is the new O C's name.

Speaker 3 (45:14):
Well, yeah, I mean it did it did? It looked
very uninspired And you don't have to know scheme to
know that when you have more than fifty percent of
your offensive line from last year not there now, yeah,
that's gonna change things. That's gonna affect things a lot.
And you know, quarterbacks gets into a comfort zone with
his offensive line, and Goff just never looked comfortable last week.

(45:39):
It's it's it's a problem. And look, the team that
they are playing tomorrow really needs a better a better
feeling than the one that they were left with on Monday,
which I bet is also gonna find its way into
this segment.

Speaker 2 (45:51):
Yeah, let's go ahead and talk about it. The team
that they play on Sunday, the Chicago Bears. Uh, you know,
start out so nice. What was it ten for ten
for Caleb Williams to start to touchdown drive to open
the game. The issue was, of course, after that opening drive,
you know, outside of a pick six and a late

(46:14):
touchdown to cut the lead to twenty seven to twenty four,
the offense didn't find the end zone basically between middle
of the first quarter till late in the fourth. I
know there were some sketchy non calls and you know,
Darnell Wright questionable pas holding call which kind of slowed
down a drive. But I'll just be real and listen.
I know it's been a lot of people's take. Like

(46:35):
you said, you don't want to overreact to week one,
but this is week one overreactions. I'm not ruining against
Caleb Billing. I'm not one of these guys that like
enjoys the downfall of Kleb.

Speaker 3 (46:46):
I don't. I don't understand that. I don't understand that
mentality at all.

Speaker 2 (46:50):
Yeah, but it just once he got off script, it
just didn't look like much. And the other thing too.
Let me and I will be negative on Caleb for
a second. You know, did have the reputation of being
kind of emotional and listen, I didn't care when he
cried in his mom's arms.

Speaker 3 (47:04):
Whatever.

Speaker 2 (47:04):
You know, if you remember that game, he played his
heart out and they lost it. He was very sulky
and whiny. And you know, I'll just say this is
that you watch the NFL across you know, all day
Saturday or all day Sunday. Excuse me, right, even guys
like JJ McCarthy, Jaden Daniels, guys in his pure group

(47:29):
great leaders. I don't know that Caleb comes off as
a great leader. That's my biggest concern is he didn't
look good. And if I'm gonna complain about one thing
besides the play sulky whiny on the sidelines, I didn't
like to see that to open year two and what
is obviously a crucial year from.

Speaker 3 (47:45):
Yeah, especially when the way that game started, like I mean,
the Bears are really hum and early and you felt
really good about it and then it just once it
deteriorated and never came back. But the one thing that
definitely has been true, and to your point, is that
Caleb Williams has a tendency to have some apps dreadful
body language. Yep, and that's not what you need from
a leader. You need a leader to be stalwart in

(48:07):
those moments and be like, hey man, there's there's still
plenty of time left in this game. We're gonna be
all right, and we just have not really gotten that yet.
So that would definitely be one.

Speaker 2 (48:15):
What else you got for a takeaway overreaction with.

Speaker 3 (48:18):
I don't want to do this, man, Bryce Young is
not good. He's just not good. I understand this is
not some bold take, but like they got housed by
a Jaguars team that's not very good. Sure, and weren't
that impressive in that game, but like, Bryce Young just
looked lost. He looks so small out there. You know,

(48:39):
he was starting to make some strides last year. But
I just I think I gotta I think I gotta
get off this this whole like hope kind of this kopium,
I gotta stop. I gotta stop drinking the kopium when
it comes to Bryce Young, I just got this one wrong. Man.
I really liked him coming out of Bama, as did you,
and you know you like him as a young man.

(48:59):
But it's just sometimes you find your ceiling, and his
ceiling was college football. He's just not good. He's just
not meant to be in the NFL.

Speaker 2 (49:07):
Yeah, opposite of Caleb Williams. The tangible stuff I love,
you know, seems like a great leader, seems like a
great dude. I just don't love or the intangible stuff.
Excuse me. I like with him. The tangible stuff, size, speed, weight,
arm strength just not there. I don't have much to add,
but I will add this as an overreaction to Week one.

(49:27):
I remember about a month ago we were on during
a preseason game and Justin Fields was throwing the ball
five feet in front of his receivers, and I was like,
why are we trying to make Justin Fields a thing?

Speaker 3 (49:40):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (49:40):
Oh, this is overreactions all. I'm gonna say that was
the best game that he's played as approchate.

Speaker 3 (49:48):
He looked really good.

Speaker 2 (49:49):
Sixteen to twenty two, one passing touchdown, two rushing touchdowns,
forty eight yards. I had just kind of punted on
the Jets are going to be four and thirteen and
drafting a quarterback. I'm not saying eleven and six. That's
not what I'm saying, but I'm saying competitive pretty much
every week now. They do host Buffalo tomorrow, so good

(50:11):
luck with that, but competitive every week, no pushover. And
I could see them in the seven to ten range
with justin fields, seven and ten type team with justin fields,
which is significantly better than I thought they would be,
and I thought he would be.

Speaker 3 (50:29):
Yeah, I mean, look, it's hard not to watch that game.
And I mean both those offenses were humming. I'm not
going to Aaron Rodgers route right here. I just I
don't think that I can't do it. I've got to
leave that one completely behind. But it's hard not to
say that he played a pretty good football game. That's
not even an overreaction. That's just a fact, Like we
all sat there and watched it, so I think we

(50:51):
I think we're pretty aware on that one. It's also
not an overreaction to say the Giants aren't good. I
saw that. Brian Dables said, you know, they have no
real timetable on Jackson Dart. They're in no hurry. I'm like,
course you're not. Your team's not very good.

Speaker 2 (51:04):
Well, let me ask you no no reason. At this point,
it feels listen, we know it's New York. There's a
lot of people reporting. It feels to me like there
is some sort of internal, whether it's the owner. I
think Brian Dable wants to play Jackson Dart. I just
would he does, Yeah, because I mean I saw stuff
about you know, I think even after the game, after

(51:27):
Week one where they got run out of the building
by the commanders, he said something at the postgame press
conference essentially like not committing to Russell Wilson in week one,
and then by Monday it was like, are week two?
Excuse me? And then by Monday it was like, oh, yeah, no,
Russ is our starter going forward. So some there's some
sort of internal whatever. How many how many starts do

(51:51):
you think Russell Wilson has left in his career? Like,
if I gave you an over under of three and
a half starts for the rest of his life as
a human being, do you go over under?

Speaker 3 (52:02):
Probably? Over, but I think five is probably about it. Yeah,
that's probably. That's kind of where I am. I think
that he may even get another shot somewhere else for
you know, even as a backup roles if he wants it.
I don't know, maybe he just retires and you turn
out to be right on that one. I'm I don't know,
Like he's playing football right now. But is he really
like has he been playing football? Like? It's just kind

(52:24):
of this is just a thing that mercifully at some
point will come to an end. It just hasn't. We
haven't quite gotten there yet. But we know, you know,
we're watching this thing, and we know I got one
that I don't know is an overreaction at all, but
it's good. Yeah. I was told going in that you
know that Miami was gonna be decent, right, and we've

(52:49):
been told for a long time it might be Daniels
really good. Da da They didn't look bad. They look futrid. Yep.
My overreaction is that Mike McDaniel will not escape the
month of Step before he's fired. But I do think
that it is fair and not an overreaction to say
he will be fired by Halloween.

Speaker 2 (53:10):
I don't think that's an overreaction at all. They're terrible,
But it brings me perfectly to the last thing that
I kind of want to ask you or you know,
we could go out if you want. Miami's Week two
opponent they host the New England Patriots. Newenga loses twenty
to thirteen to the Raiders. Are we overreacting that we

(53:31):
may have overvalued Drake May with Mike Rabel, or are
we overreacting that Pete Carroll might still have something in
the tank. Like do we think the Raiders are better
than we thought? Do we think the Patriots are worse
than we thought? Or none of the above.

Speaker 3 (53:46):
I'd say none of the above. I mean I think
that the rate. Look, Gino Smith can do stuff. Yeah,
and you know Jent didn't have a huge game, but
you know that's a team that they do have some pieces,
and Brock Bauers can really play. And Drake May is
still fairly young, is first coach or a first time
available in this role. They're still probably getting used to

(54:07):
some of the personnel. They dealt with some injuries and
things like that during camp. I'm not willing to say
much about it. I don't think that tells us much
about either team except that Gino Smith tends to play
pretty good football, especially for a while, and he makes
some pretty big time spectacular plays as well as a quarterback.
And the Patriots are very much a work in progress.
So I don't know that it's necessarily anything to be

(54:30):
particularly worried about.

Speaker 5 (54:31):
Now.

Speaker 3 (54:31):
If they go out there against Miami and don't look
good and can't move the ball offensively. Maybe we can
revisit this topic, but that one, I don't think there's
really an overreaction there. I think that the Patriots were
not going to be We're not going to all of
a sudden be a twelve win team. The question was
were they going to be a five hundred team where
they can be a little below five hundred, like, where
were they going to finish? Where was the progress going

(54:54):
to come from? And I still think that that's very
much something that's within reason, So I tend not to
think there was that much to take away from that.

Speaker 2 (55:03):
Yeah, I think my biggest takeaway was we forget you know,
first of all, the Seahawks won ten games with Gino
Smith last year, which is crazy, nobody remembers it. But
the counter to it is Geno Smith now with a
coach that not only inherently trusts him like Pete Carroll,
seems to basically be attaching the final leg of his

(55:24):
career to Geno Smith. So that cause, I mean, it's
easy to forget this now. But remember it was like
are they gonna draft Shito or are they gonna draft
a quarterback?

Speaker 1 (55:32):
Round one?

Speaker 2 (55:32):
Like I don't even remember who was out there, you know,
I think Russell will like there were so many things,
and it was like, oh, Pete Carroll just traded for
Geno Smith. Trusts him and Gino Smith's credit looked really
good in week one, the Vegas Raiders. By the way, Jim,
are you staying up for the UH Vegas Chargers second
part of the UH double dip? A ten pm Eastern

(55:53):
kickoff on Monday night football?

Speaker 3 (55:55):
Get a decent I mean, it's a decent game, and it's,
you know, my team's division, even though it's not my
team playing. But that's man, I'm forty six.

Speaker 2 (56:04):
Man, it's a late kick.

Speaker 3 (56:06):
I just don't think so. I think I'm gonna have
to catch the highlights the next day. Maybe maybe I'll
record it and watch it the next day when I
have some have some time. But I don't know that
that's being a great steward of my time to stay
up that late to watch that game in week two.

Speaker 2 (56:23):
I know, we host national radio and we're supposed to
say we watch everything, but yeah, even on the West Coast,
my wife gets up for work at five thirty, so
I'm usually up about five thirty. I don't even know
if I'll make it to the end of that game
on the West coast, but one of two Monday night
games Chargers visiting the Las Vegas Raiders and the Bucks
visiting the Houston Texans in the early game. Tell you what, Jamart,

(56:45):
We'll come back. The one topic we didn't get to,
a need to arch manning, what the heck was that?
We'll discuss it next. Fox Sports.

Speaker 3 (56:56):
Are you.

Speaker 2 (56:58):
Welcome back?

Speaker 3 (56:59):
Everybody?

Speaker 2 (57:00):

Padres won as well, eleven to three over the Rockies,
who have a record of forty one and one oh eight.
The Padres are still two and a half games back
in the first place Dodgers in the NL West. The
Giants are still a half game out of the last
NL Wildcard spot behind the slumping Mets, who lost their

(58:44):
eighth in a row. Lost in New York three two
to Texas, giving up two runs in the eighth, one
in the ninth. The loss to closer Edwin Diaz. The
Texas Rangers have won six in a row. They're only
two back in their division, the AL West. Houston and
Seattle still tied for first first in the AL West.
Seattle won it's eighth straight, five to three over the Angels,

(59:04):
winning pitcher Brian Woo thirteen strikeouts in six innings. Houston

the Cubs, who lost at home five to four to
Tampa Bay. Ray's got a solo homer in the eighth
and a solo homer in the ninth. Junior Camenaro of
Tampa Bay is forty third homer of the year. Yankees
in Toronto each one. Philadelphia won at six in a row,
Pittsburgh ended a seven game losing streak, and Miami in

In Las vegas. Tonight it's gonna Be Canelo alvarez undisputed

oh that is the main event that's going to be coming.

(01:00:10):
Up all the prelimbs are. DONE Wnba playoffs Starts sunday
and also The Men's EuroBasket Finalist, Sunday germany With Dennis
shrewder Against turkey with Alparin, shengoon each team eight to
zero in that.

Speaker 2 (01:00:21):
Tournament beck to, you, hey To sega really, quick what
was The Dennis shrewder contract? Situation remember he turned down?
Something oh the only reason before last. Year, yeah the
only REASON i ask is BECAUSE i mentioned this To
ian last. Week i'm trying to think of a decision
with The. Lakers, yeah worse Than NIKO. Iamaliavn i'm not being.

(01:00:43):
Sarcastic Dennis schreuder was the only ONE i could come up.
WITH i think he had like a four year. Deal
he turned it down in eighty four, million four, year
eighty four million dollar deal and he ended up with
a one year.

Speaker 6 (01:00:52):
Deal, WELL i think that would probably take the, cake
just because the money is so enormous. NOW i, MEAN
i remember when an infielder it's been years go now
turned down a three year, deal but that was probably
three years, twenty not three. Eighty sure the way things go.

Speaker 2 (01:01:05):
Now all right to, say, girl thank you very much
to be back in just a few minutes with your extended.
Update Fox Sports. Radio by the, Way Aeron, Torres Jason,
martin we are live from The Fox Sports radio studios
here at twelve twenty Nine eastern. Time we're taking you
up till two a M EASTERN. Jmrt you, know we
did a lot of college football in our. One we'll

(01:01:27):
get back to it in our. Three but there was
a huge topic that we wanted to get. To but
That TEXAS a AND m game just went on and
on and on in a good. Way it was a great.
Game that, is, uh the state of Arch. Manning So
texas beats you tap twenty seven to. Ten by the,
way this, week weird, stuff you, Know, Jamart i'm sure

(01:01:50):
you saw The sark media availability where there was a
video Of arch. Wincing they asked him about it And i'm.
Paraphrasing we don't need to play the, sound but in,
paraphrasing he, said DO i follow you into the bathroom
and see what face you? Make and it was weird
and it was, defensive but it was also you, know

(01:02:12):
reflective maybe of what we saw On. Saturday Arch manning
eleven of twenty five passing one hundred and fourteen, yards one,
touchdown one. Interception you, know and by the, Way texas
fans actually boot him coming off the field at one
point during that. GAME i got, Takes But i'm curious

(01:02:34):
what's going on with Arch. Manning just let's just talk it.
Out let's talk it.

Speaker 3 (01:02:37):
Out go. Ahead he's still trying to figure things. Out
he was eleven of twenty five AGAINST utep four one
hundred and fourteen, yards had a touchdown and a. Pick
you were in for. Two they won the. Game they're
two and one it's a top ten football. Team BUT
i think the biggest problem For Arch manning is how

(01:03:00):
we looked Against Ohio state for three quarters negates anything
that he's done in the past two weeks because of the,
opposition and in, fact when you look at those stats
and then you see IT'S, utap you're, like, oh, wait
what's going on? HERE i said to, YOU i was
not willing to go too deep On arch being you,

(01:03:21):
know complete trash or anything like, that, right BUT i
also said that he may be LIKE i may unconsciously
be giving him the benefit of the doubt because of
his last, name because if this Were Arch, Smith i'm
not SURE i wouldn't if he had been hyped to this,

(01:03:42):
degree which he probably wouldn't have because his name would
have Been Arch. Smith but if he Was Arch, Smith
i'd probably be, Saying texas probably needs to find somebody.
Else this guy doesn't look like he's got. It he's very.
Young we know. This he's still trying to figure it.
OUT i think the biggest thing THAT i look at
right now AS i, say this dude is a not a.
Product he is very much still they're still trying to

(01:04:05):
figure out what he. Is he's still trying to figure
everything out as a quarterback on this. Level BUT i
do think that it is very much fair at this
point to say it was too, much too, soon and
he does become a victim now of if you watched
That Ohio state game AND i was watching in a
hotel room many miles away from home the week That i've,

(01:04:29):
missed And arnie was in with, you BUT i couldn't
help but notice how many commercials he was, in how
many commercials his famous relatives were, in and then they
would come back to the live game and he was. Bad.
Yep the one problem with the nil era is that
we are paying guys who haven't done anything. Yet we

(01:04:49):
are paying. Guys we're putting guys out there based on
potential and nothing that they've actually accomplished that would give
you t us in. That and that means that it's
going to be much fairer, game to be much harsher
on the critique of those. Players and Arch manning is

(01:05:09):
a perfect example of that because he was everywhere in those,
ads and then on the football field he was nowhere
because he just couldn't get anything. Done luckily he had
that fourth, Quarter but you, know last week he had
the four touchdowns in five minutes and everybody attempted to
try and make that into more than it. Was and
then in this, game he just didn't look good against

(01:05:31):
the team he probably needed, to because this is a
team that you would expect him to go in and.
Dominate and even if you look at the stats and, say,
well the stats don't always tell the story, right it
might have actually been. Worse at one, POINT i think
he was five or sixteen throwing the. Football he had
thrown a really bad. Interception he just right, now it
does not look right in any, way shape or. Form

(01:05:54):
that's why you're, like, oh he was. Winsing why? Again
because he's a manning, right and we've heard about him
for three years at, least maybe even. Longer something's got
to be wrong with him because we couldn't have been this.
Wrong the hype couldn't have been this off, base except
maybe it.

Speaker 2 (01:06:12):
Was, yeah and so one SO i agree with everything
IS I i tried to be, fair AND i tried
to give him the benefit of the doubt in the you,
know in the. Preseason BUT i still go back to
the most basic, point Which i'm sorry people say it's

(01:06:32):
a casual, take BUT i. Disagree if he was that,
good they would have played him last. Year Quinn ewers
was not a guy That Steve sarkisian. Trusted all you
had to do was watch the. Games they would get
up and then they would just try to basically play,
like you, know run the clock for the rest of the,
game defense and running. Game, okay so that's. One but.

(01:06:54):
Two here's the other thing is that you, KNOW I
i think it's it's just an interesting conversation too About
texas as, well because all of a, sudden you look
at that. Schedule arch Versus John, mattier then Is John? Metier,
yeah you, know let me ask you. This and admittedly

(01:07:15):
there are twenty one other starters on the. Field arch
Versus Diego. PAVIA i, MEAN i Take Diego. Pavia, now
ADMITTEDLY i would Take texas's, defense wide, receivers running, backs.
Line it might not, matter but like right, now based
on a quarter of the, season we do have a
quarter of the season in the books for these. TEAMS

(01:07:36):
i Take Diego. PAVIA i Take Gutter. Stockton i'll tell you,
THIS i don't think they'll. WIN i Take Taylor, green
WHO i just saw awesome tonight For arkansas Against Ole.
MISS i Take Marcel reid who just led a game
winning drive with two minutes to go For TEXAS a AND. M,
so like you go on and on down the. LIST
i think we talked about it a little bit last
week of, like, well, now If arch isn't, good how

(01:07:59):
does this game look and how that game? Look and
you just start you, know building up sample size is
not the right, word but you just start looking at
the schedule and all of a, sudden Unless arch is,
hurt if he's, Not LIKE i don't mean this sarcastically
or to be mean, SPIRITED i kind of hope he's,

(01:08:19):
hurt because it is, yeah you know WHAT i. Mean
because if he's not, HURT i don't think he's the.

Speaker 3 (01:08:23):
Better.

Speaker 2 (01:08:24):
YEAH i don't think he's the better quarterback when they
Play vandy Against Diego. PAVIA i don't think he's the
better quarterback when they Play arkansas Against Talen. GREEN i
don't think he's the better quarterback when they Play TEXAS
a AND m With Marcel. Reid so are they going
to win some of those games because there is talent
across the board in other? Places, yeah but all of a.
Sudden you, know it's so funny because we talked last
hour About Notre. Dame it's gonna be hard to build

(01:08:46):
a resume for the. Playoff, clemson it's gonna be hard
to build a resume for the, playoff even only in week.
Two i'm not saying where they're yet With, texas but
all of a, sudden games that, everybody AND i include,
Myself i'm sure you would feel the same that you
just kind of Say texa's gonna win that. One, Well
texas is gonna win that, one even two three weeks,
ago all of a. Sudden you can't say that about
a lot of these games that are on this.

Speaker 3 (01:09:07):
Schedule, yeah that's. RIGHT i, mean, look it was fourteen
ten and a, half or sorry it was fourteen it
was it was fourteen three and a. Half but it
was never like out of. Reach it felt, LIKE i
don't think anybody THOUGH uteh was going to win the.
Game but it should have been a, Blowout like it
just should have been a. Blowout with due respect to
whatever the vaunted program AT uteb, is but this is arch,

(01:09:30):
manning and this is supposed this is not how this
is supposed to, be, right this is not what we
were told we were going to see all. Year this
is not what we all assumed we were probably going
to see all. Year your point and, said you, know
it's kind of an old take that he would have
started last year if he, were if he were, ready
if you were, good Because Quinn youewers had kind of

(01:09:50):
we had seen kind of What quinn yours, was and
we felt like that's probably not gonna be good enough
to win a, championship and it turned out it was.
Not But sark and go, there and he would. HAVE
i think If archi had given him the best chance to,
WIN i think maybe last year we might have thought.
Differently but looking back, hindsight it's always twenty. Twenty you
recognize now that, No sark was doing the thing that

(01:10:13):
gave him the best chance to. Win the problem for
arts is this a lot of, times like somebody that's
a young quarterback is going to get time to, develop
and there's going to be patients. There there's gonna be
some growing, pains but you're gonna see some. Progress they're
going to get better and. Better they're going to be
there by the time they were. Senior, lookout that's just
not how college athletics works, anymore and it's definitely not

(01:10:35):
how college football, works especially in The anio era and
the Win now, era and with the money being, involved
these boosters are going to find money to bring somebody
else in there if they feel, like you, know next
year they could win a championship with the different. Quarterbacks
so you look at all of. That arch doesn't have
time to be. Mediocre arch doesn't have time to be

(01:10:57):
At texas and be. Subpar arch has to at least
be pretty good now to get the benefit of the
doubt and to get people to give him. TIME i
think that his name is LIKE i, said for me,
Unconsciously i'm not ready to cut bait On Arch manning,
yet but there's a lot that needs to be. Shown
he's going to have a lot that he's going to
have to prove through the remainder of this year for

(01:11:20):
people to still buy in at the. End BUT i
think at some point The manning name is actually going to,
flip and maybe it has for some other. People and
it's just, like, well if he didn't have that, name
he would be regarded as absolutely nothing at this point
and no one would have any trust in his. Development
and what he was going to be able to grow
into and all of these other various factors that stand.

(01:11:41):
There so it's a tough spot for him to be
in because, again this dude tweeted three times in five.
Years he wasn't putting himself out, there and of course
companies came to him and wanted his likeness and wanted
him to advertise their products and all those kinds of.
Things but now when he goes out, there when he
tries to advertise himself as a, quarterback he doesn't look

(01:12:02):
like he's ready for the college. Game and we shouldn't
even be even discussing what would happen after the college
game because he certainly he doesn't look like he could
do that right.

Speaker 2 (01:12:14):
Now, yeah you, know last little put a bow on
on this. THOUGHT i don't know how you, thought how
you felt about all of these, Guys and this isn't
really an arch, topic but it sort of is an arch.
Topic didn't really understand the this could be a generational
quarterback class conversation for THE nfl draft. Perspective, yeah, All

(01:12:37):
i'll Say Cade Club nick plummeting down draft boards arch.
MANNING i would, say essentially non draftable you, Know Leonora
seller's got hurt, today we'll give him a little bit
of a benefit of the. Doubt Carson, Beck, Dude i'll say.

Speaker 3 (01:12:51):
This he's. Playing he's balling out At.

Speaker 2 (01:12:53):
Miami Carson beck looks. Awesome you, Know i'm not enough
of an expert to know How John mattier looks as
a draft. Price but he's. Playing BUT i mean it
might we might still get four or five first. Rounders
it might just not be the guys we. Thought BUT
i was thinking about that today as it pertains to
Arch manning and k Club nick, specifically is that this?
Class and, then, YES i won't, ramble but to your,
POINT i, think you, know the better question might be

(01:13:18):
is he the starter Of texas next?

Speaker 3 (01:13:20):
Year?

Speaker 2 (01:13:21):
Not is he going to, be you, know a starter
in THE nfl next?

Speaker 3 (01:13:24):
Year not if there's not some, Progress not if we
don't see a decent amount of progress going forward and relatively.
SOON i. DON'T i don't see a universe where he
is back because there's too much money At texas and
too much pressure on someone Like Steve. Sarkisian they just
they don't have the time to sit around and hope

(01:13:45):
that Arch manning. Develops even if they cut bait and
he goes and is great somewhere, else It's, Texas they'll
be able to find another quarterback that's going to be
able to win football games for. THEM i just can't
see them risking another season on him if he doesn't
show a tremendous amount of development going.

Speaker 2 (01:14:02):
Forward, Yeah i'll just be. QUICK i know every scenario
is a little bit. Different but in his recruiting class
two years, Ago Jackson, arnold five star can't miss goes To,
oklahoma he, missed And Brent venables was, like you gotta
get the heck out of. HERE i gotta figure this
thing out Or i'm gonna lose my Job.

Speaker 3 (01:14:20):
And guess what he.

Speaker 2 (01:14:20):
Has, yeah, no he. Has and by the, Way Jackson,
arnold it's, early but he's actually playing pretty. Well but
the only Point i'm trying to, Make by the, Way Jackson,
arnold the return game To oklahoma next, week so that'll be.
Fun but the only Point i'm trying to make is
that kid was can't. Miss he was Out nico also
in that. Class that was a little bit of a
different situation because he was playing pretty. Well we're At

(01:14:43):
tennessee and, well let's just Say nico's dad ain't up

Away hello, again, gentlemen and CAN i just say first
off that Both Oregon state And Washington state lost badly
on the road, today which is shocking BECAUSE i consider
them two of the best teams in The pac.

Speaker 2 (01:15:34):
Twelve they, are they're also two of the worst team knew,
THAT i didn't know from what direction.

Speaker 6 (01:15:40):
For those who are, unaware they are the only two
left in The pac. Twelve but, Yes Washington state lost
fifty nine to ten At North. Texas Oregon state was
beaten forty five fourteen at number twenty One Texas. Tech
that was a game that had a lightning delay of
over two hours. Early Eventually Oregon state on the ground
twenty two carries seven yards, rushing including two sex At

(01:16:03):
purdue a lightning delay of over three hours at the.

Speaker 2 (01:19:00):
Redoing the regular.

Speaker 6 (01:19:01):
Plays it's a really odd thing to, see but that
would be fun to see college football that close.

Speaker 2 (01:19:07):
Up quite, frankly.

Speaker 6 (01:19:08):
Benn state ranked number, two it was only thirteen, nothing
just before halftime Against villanova fifty two to six the,
final As villanova scored a touchdown on the final, play
a wild play that ended a sixteen play. Drive but
until that final, Drive villanova had six first downs and eight.

Speaker 2 (01:20:09):
Outs by the, way we didn't get the, sound But
Brian kelly blew up at a. Reporter reporter was, like

we do have a final, there but let's stay with,

(01:21:24):
well let's stay with football for. NOW J Mart and,
listen probably maybe the biggest story Of saturday Was Arch.
Manning we just talked about it a minute. Ago you,
KNOW i think our audience changes so. Quickly it's worth
half a second On arch because this is a guy That,
listen we all know Preseason heisman number one, player you,

(01:21:47):
know projected number one picking the draft according to many mock,
drafts everything that he, said everything his grandfather, said would
he be, back would he be a one and?

Speaker 1 (01:21:55):
Done?

Speaker 2 (01:21:56):
Whatever, well ALL i know is this eleven to twenty,
five one hundred and fourteen yards four point six yards
per completion was booed By texas. FANS. Jmr and we'll
rip through a bunch of different things from the college
football world On. Saturday this might be the biggest story,
though because he's. Struggling texas does BEAT, Utep but as

(01:22:16):
you start to look at THAT sec, schedule if they're
getting mediocre quarterback play At, texas it really doesn't matter
how good everybody else is across the, field because at
the end of the, day it's gonna be hard to win.
Games if you're GETTING d plus OR c minus quarterback
play in THE.

Speaker 3 (01:22:34):
Sec, YEAH i mean you can't afford. It it's not
the OLD sec, either or any conference where the quarterback
can be sort of just ied and you're still gonna
find a way to skate. BY i mean doesn't mean
you'll have a losing, season but it means whatever the
ceiling was for your team, is you're gonna have to recalculate,

(01:22:57):
that reconfigure, it and look at it all over. Again
SO i, mean he's going to have to be good he,
is or they're going to take a couple of more
losses and not make the college Football playoff at. ALL
i think that's the other part of, This, like, yes
there's a ton of talent, there but this, schedule if
handled by a quarterback that is just not firing on

(01:23:17):
all his, cylinders this could become a problem real quick For.
TEXAS i, mean we've already seen them drop one, game
and they're going to play against a lot of teams
they're going to have no problem trying to wreck their.
SEASON i, mean Obviously oklahoma is going to have no
issue with. That but they've Got, oklahoma they Got, georgia
they got a and M i'm just looking at three,

(01:23:37):
GAMES i, mean and none of the games that they
have left outside of next week Against Sam houston is
exactly a. Cakewalk even going to the Swamp, archers that's
going to be another environment where they're going to because
the other problem is for Arch, manning everywhere he, goes
he's gonna hear it until something, changes and he's not
really gonna have an opportunity to change the perception of

(01:23:59):
him on until maybe even until they Play, oklahoma BECAUSE
i don't know That florida is going to be in
a position where that's gonna, matter except he's gonna be
on the road in a still pretty hostile sec. Environment
so he goes out there and balls, out maybe that's
gonna help. Him But i'm already looking At october eleventh
Against oklahoma and saying that's gonna be to make it

(01:24:20):
or break a. Game if he goes out there and
he plays his plays his guts, out and he and
M matier have some kind of a shootout, there that
might be the one where you start to, Say, okay all,
right now things are starting to make. Sense but up
until that, point it's gonna be rough BECAUSE i feel
like most of the conversation surrounding arch is going to
be quite negative because he's not really going to be

(01:24:43):
able to change it based on who they have in
the next couple.

Speaker 2 (01:24:46):
Weeks, yeah AND i, mean, AGAIN i understand that it's
a sport of twenty two individuals on the field at
any given. Time but you, know, again you look at
the rest of the, schedule and, AGAIN i want to be,
CLEAR i understand that defense, MATTERS o line, matters skill,
position guys. Matter But Diego pavia just went To South
carolina and won. Tonight Maybe texas's personnel is that much

(01:25:10):
better Than South carolina's and it doesn't. Matter but you,
KNOW i don't Know Taylor, green the quarterback At arkansas
three hundred yards passing one hundred and fifteen yards rushing
tonight At Old. Miss SO i, mean it's just if
you're getting outplayed at the quarterback position in every game
that you, play at some, point it doesn't matter how

(01:25:30):
good the defense and THE o line in the run
game and the wide receivers. Are you need elite quarterback.
Play speaking of elite quarterback, play we had pretty much
just elite play across the board in The Tennessee georgia
game wild. Game tennessee misses a field goal with you,
know basically as time, expires which would have won it

(01:25:51):
in Regulation. Georgia by the, WAY J, martin we didn't
even mention this in hour. One georgia with the walk
off referees were because they scored a touch you, Know
tennessee kicked a field goal to open. Overtime georgia scored a.
Touchdown it was called short end. Game they went to,

(01:26:12):
review it was called a. TOUCHDOWN i think half The
tennessee fans probably didn't get to see or replayed, it
even though it was, happening but the game was. Called
we talked about this in hour, one you know. ONE
i would love for you to tell people a little
bit about That tennessee you, know miss field, Goal but
THEN i would also ask, you is this more About
georgia with an incredible? Win is it more About tennessee

(01:26:33):
with a gut frenching. Loss it's, both but which is
bigger to?

Speaker 3 (01:26:37):
You? YEAH i MEAN i think it's more About tennessee
BECAUSE i think the vast majority of the people watching the,
game because of What georgia has been over this last,
stretch they were probably With. Tennessee that's just a, guess
and SO i think that most of them are gonna
view it From tennessee's. Standpoint and, again WHEN i went

(01:26:59):
to the forums after the, GAME i just went to
the athletic BECAUSE i knew there'd be both fan. Bases
they're talking most of The georgia fans were Crediting tennessee
more than they were talking about how good they were
now they were getting stocked in his flowers and all,
that but a lot of them were Saying hypel mismanaged
that last, minute he put his kicker in a spot

(01:27:20):
where he iced. Him they got too conservative a couple
of times offensively when they shouldn't. Have, basically he blanked
And kirby. Didn't but at the same, time the word
escape was used a. Lot SO i think that if
you say, escape if that's kind of, that and that's
HOW i. FELT i felt Like georgia. Escaped so If georgia,
escaped then it's more about the team that you escaped,

(01:27:43):
from because the escape itself is not nearly as impressive
as as the flip side the team that led him
off the. Hook to quote the lay Great Dennis, green
that's What tennessee. Did they found a way to Let
georgia is Escape Neeland, stadium Escape knoxville with a, win

(01:28:04):
AND i call it AND i think escape is the
right word to, Use, aaron BECAUSE i do feel Like
tennessee should have, Won and Maybe i'd have felt the
exact opposite and felt Like georgia should have won If
tennessee had made that. Kick but all the, WHILE i,
mean it was just a great football game and one
of those teams had to. Lose BUT i think that
it's more about the loser than the winner in this,
case Because tennessee had multiple opportunities to win that game

(01:28:27):
or put it out of, reach.

Speaker 2 (01:28:29):
So real, quick just SO i have this straight so
late field goal BECAUSE i was running, AROUND i, WAS
i had the game, On SO i don't want to
make it sound LIKE i don't, understand but, basically with
that field, goal So. Tennessee first of, all we talked
about this in hour, one But tennessee had a chance
to go up two scores with about three minutes to.

(01:28:49):
Go they were up thirty five thirty with the ball
deep In georgia. Territory run three straight run plays to
kick a field goal to go up eight when they could.
Listen touchdown isn't, guaranteed but the field goal was on the,
board and you could have very, easily you, know you
could have very easily been in a scenario where you

(01:29:10):
went up two. Scores but so, BASICALLY i just want
to make sure THAT i understand. This but it was
it was third down For, tennessee and obviously you can
always kick the field goal on third. Down hypel was
planning to go for, it not go for, it but
run another play on third. Down then there was a
penalty Pushed tennessee back five. Yards that was When hypel

(01:29:32):
just decided to kick. It is that my understanding of.

Speaker 3 (01:29:34):
It, yes and they had time they probably could have
called another play. There but at the same, time like
all of this was time that the kicker basically had
to just sit on the. Sidelines sure it took so
long to get this, done and every time they showed, him,
yeah just looked more. Uncomfortable and it's just, like this

(01:29:56):
is one thing you couldn't, Do like you could not
put your kicker in this. Situation this IS i don't
care how many he's made in practice like, this this ain't.
Practice this is completely different and he understands It's, georgia
and he hears that crowd and he they kept showing
The tennessee crown right before that. Kick every one of
them look like they have motion.

Speaker 2 (01:30:16):
Sickness yeah, YEAH i mean.

Speaker 3 (01:30:18):
They looked ill because they were just, like, please don't
let this happen. Again but it's almost like they saw
it coming before it. HAPPENED i felt sorry for those
people BECAUSE i was sitting there watching. IT i was just, like,
man he really should make this, kick BUT i bet
you he's gonna miss his. Kick and he found a
way to miss the, kick but the false star penalty
knocked him back five. Yards they still had seven, SECONDS

(01:30:38):
i believe at that, point so they could have called
a play to try to just get something quick and
then called the time out and try to get that
five yards back or a couple. More because all, right
so your kicker is being iced and or essentially he
is by kind of the way that the circumstances are
happening there in a. Game so not only is he
having to sit there and, wait he also has prepared

(01:30:59):
for a certain kick and then he's, like, well this
just got five yards. Harder everything went against. Him the
pressure kept building on, him and then the actual thing
he was required to do became even. Harder so it
was just a perfect storm if you're A georgia fan
for that to be exactly what you needed it to.
Be so it was that to, ME i think was just.

(01:31:19):
Unfortunate hypel didn't help his cause. There when he is
aggressive and rolling, tempo they're as dangerous as anybody you will.
See AND i don't mean this, YEAR i mean his
entire time At. Tennessee but the few times that he
got conservative in this, game he may you could at
least understand Why tennessee fans would, say, man we should

(01:31:40):
have won that. Game hypel actually might have been the
reason we. Didn't But hypel's so much the reason why
you're close and Why georgia now actually takes you seriously,
again and everybody else in the country takes you seriously
again after The jeremy pruitd era and The Derek douley
era and The Butcher jones era and all of those
things that, like he's so, good BUT i bet you

(01:32:02):
he's kicking himself because when he goes especially if he
goes back and watches a film in that, game he's gonna.
Realize it's just, like, MAN i THINK i over coached this.
THING i THINK i might have gotten in my own
way WHEN i did not need, to and it may
have cost my team this football.

Speaker 2 (01:32:18):
Game, yeah And i'll just say really quickly on that.
Too that was kind of a complaint Of tennessee fans
as even in a playoff run last year of you,
know had some great. Wins you, know they Beat alabama at,
home but trying to remember The arkansas game they lost
and it was just a. Lot by the end of the,

(01:32:38):
year he was known as this offensive guy and it
was clear that you, know maybe maybe in hindsight it makes,
sense but didn't Trust, niko who was this quarterback at the,
time got a little conservative as the season went on really.
QUICKLY i think we should at least acknowledge two quick.
Results the first, One i'll be a glasses half full
on this. One TEXAS a getting the win At Notre.

(01:33:01):
DAME a bigger story is Probably Notre dame, losing But
TEXAS a AND m forty one to. Forty you, Know
Notre dame scored with about three minutes left to go
up forty to thirty. Four they missed the pat to
go up forty one to thirty. Four Texas adam gets
the ball. Back they actually return the kick for a.

(01:33:22):
Touchdown it's called back for a. Hold Marcel reed drives
them the length of the, field winning score with thirteen seconds.
Left you, Know TEXAS a and M j mart you
live IN sec, country you know as well as. Anybody
one of these teams that generally finds ways to lose
close games late they get the great. Win Notre dame
now falls To oho and. Two remember they had That

(01:33:43):
week one loss To. Miami they had a Rare week two.
Buy So Notre dame zero and two back very much
up against the.

Speaker 3 (01:33:50):
Wall, yeah it's bad For Notre. Dame it really, is
because those two losses are against teams that the committee
would look at and be impressed if it went the other.
Way and you look at the remainder Of Notre dame
schedule and it just doesn't have a lot of marquee
opportunities for them to kind of try and get back
some of the equity that they've lost in these two.
Losses close though they may be on the flip side

(01:34:13):
For TEXAS a and m in an sec where we're
not sure who's really the top of the, heat Like
georgia of course Escaped. TENNESSEE i think both those teams
are really really. Good alabama for the last two weeks
has looked, great but their first week looked. Terrible this
is off, topic BUT i was. WATCHING i saw The
wisconsin line first of, all AND i was, like eighteen
and a, half nineteen, points and then you watch the, game,

(01:34:35):
Man wisconsin has just fallen completely off the. Mat it's.

Speaker 2 (01:34:38):
Crazy they're just, gone like it's just.

Speaker 3 (01:34:40):
Over like it's amazing to me because nothing. Else they
were always like top fifteen ish somewhere in that, neighborhood
always had a strong, defense a good tight, end a
solid offensive, line like they were always in the, Mix
like you knew they probably weren't gonna win a national,
championship but they were probably gonna find their way close

(01:35:01):
to The Big ten championship game and all, this and
they got a coach there and knows what he's, doing we,
thought and like they've just completely Disappeared, aaron, LIKE i
did not even think about it UNTIL i saw, This, like,
OH albt In, WISCONSIN i would be. Good and THEN
i looked AT i was, like, no it shouldn't. Be
this is gonna be an utter. Blowout what has happened?

Speaker 2 (01:35:20):
Here, well it's. Interesting first of, ALL i was thinking
about this With Luke. Fickele you, KNOW i remember like
early in the Chip kelly. Year and now you could
criticize Chip, kelly but you, know he WON i think
nine games his last two, years well two of the
last three. Whatever by the, end they weren't a. Disaster
BUT i remember early in the Chip kelly era it was,
like has there ever been a highre that was not

(01:35:42):
just praised but universally, like this is an, amazing unbelievable
one of the greatest tires that's ever. Existed that's just
a total. Dud AND i, remember you, know Chip kelly
kind of coached his way out of, it but there
was a two three year stretch there where you're, like,
oh this is a train. WRECK i bring it up
Because Luke. Fickle it was. Universal REMEMBER i don't know
how much you would, remember but like there was a

(01:36:04):
time where When Luke fickle had it rolling At, cincinnati
there was like talk of you, KNOW i remember the
year THE lsu job, opened and it was like would
he Would Luke fickle go and like the people that
Knew Luke fickle were, like he loves it At. Cincinnati
the only jobs he would leave for Are Ohio state
And Notre. Dame he had some fascination With Notre. Dame

(01:36:25):
he Coached Ohio. State, whatever he takes The wisconsin, job
and it's just like this foregone conclusion that it's gonna
be a great hire and, right you, know, listen he
he got cute with the. Offense he tried to bring
the spread offense to, uh you, know cold Windy. Wisconsin

(01:36:45):
BUT i, Yeah i'm with, you, MAN i cannot believe
how bad they are, because like you, SAID i, mean
even when things weren't by the, way it's not just
like it fell apart because you, know they changed schemes
and this and, that and they have a bad, Coach
like they have a coach we all thought was. Awesome so,
ANYWAY i don't mean a, ramble but it's just like
it is unbelievable to me how that all worked.

Speaker 3 (01:37:06):
Out, YEAH i mean, again and that's off. TOPIC i
KNOW i got because we were talking about THE sec,
there but, again you just kind of look AT a
AND m and you're just like they're right in the,
mix like they might be the best team in THE
sec by the end of the. Year we have no real.
Idea it's probably Still georgia at this, stage but like
there's just there are many things that are kind OF
i feel like up in the air about that conference

(01:37:29):
AND a AND m. Has you, know they're an undefeated
team that went on the road To South bend and
won a shootout where they had to score at the
end of the, game and they were able to pull
that off in that. Environment that's going to be impressive all.
Year now we'll find out What Notre dame's final record
is and maybe it won't look as, impressive but it's
still a pretty impressive performance by. Them like they're they're

(01:37:52):
right now looking like that team in THE sec that's
taking that step in the direction that might put them
into twelve at the end of the.

Speaker 2 (01:38:00):
Year, YEAH i think they're right up. There georgia obviously
has looked. AWESOME i Think oklahoma has looked. Awesome they
improved to three and. Zero they OPEN sec play next
week Against, Auburn But TEXAS a AND m is right.
There incredible win AND i would agree with you one hundred.
Percent you, know it's a great. Win we don't want
to diminish what they. Did but the, takeaway unfortunately is

(01:38:22):
With Notre dame it is hard to, find you, know
wins on their schedule that will impress the. Committee Late
Notre dame falls to zero and. Two by the, way
random fun game on THE acc that, Work Jay bard
acc after. Dark stanford up thirty to. Twenty andrew luck
Is STANFORD'S gm of football and they keep showing him

(01:38:45):
on the. Sidelines, man he's having the time of his.
LIFE i mean they, really you, know they fired their
coach In. February Frank reich has come in as the
interim head. Coach stanford up forty thirty to. Twenty was
seven minutes left and and, Yeah Arizona state up thirty
four nothing as. Well Fox Sports Radio Eron Torris Jason
martin broadcasting live from The Fox Sports radio, studios will come.

(01:39:07):
Back what do we? DO i think we'll look ahead
Of week, Three week two of THE. Nfl week two
highlighted by The PHILLY kc, game but there is so
much more on the. Docket we'll discuss it all. Next
Fox Sports. Radio welcome, back. Everybody Fox Sports Radio Aeron
Torris Jason martin broadcasting live from The Fox Sports radio.

(01:39:29):
Studios canelo And Terrence crawford's still going on In vegas
as soon as it goes final To seger will hop
in with any updates, peers as Though Terrence crawford is
in control of that. Fight we are through seven, rounds
Per Steve. Sager all, Right i'll tell you what until
we get a. Final we've talked to a lot of college,

(01:39:51):
football but it is time to look ahead To week
two of THE. Nfl Mary, mack give us a little,
music LITTLE nfl music. Ian i'd ask you what game
we're starting, with BUT i THINK i have a pretty
good idea of what the marquee game is that you
want to talk.

Speaker 7 (01:40:09):
About first, Year, yes, sir a rematch of The Super.
Bowl we have The Philadelphia eagles traveling To arrowhead to
take on The. Chiefs philly is actually favored At arrowhead
by a point and a, half first time The chiefs
have been road dogs in a. While but who you guys, got,
Jmr what do you?

Speaker 3 (01:40:26):
GOT i Got. PHILLY i Got philly to. Cover and
WHEN i just think there are better football teams, YEAR
i do. Not i'm not completely out on The, chiefs
BUT i just was so unimpressed with WHAT i saw
from their skill talent in that matchup with The. Chargers
and here's another one where you're trying not to overreact
to one week and you, know it's a weird, game

(01:40:48):
you're In brazil and all this other kind of. Stuff
at the same, TIME i just Think philadelphia is just
a better football. TEAM i think that's why they won
The Super, bowl AND i think that's why they're going
to win on the. Road and the Talk monday it's
going to, be uh, oh is The chiefs thing finally
a RAP i don't know that it, is BUT i
do not think they're gonna win this. Game, yeah you,

(01:41:09):
KNOW i.

Speaker 2 (01:41:10):
Feel So i'll Take philly as. Well AND i actually
feel the exact same. Way you don't want to, overreact
but it was the second and, listen second straight game
where it just felt like everywhere on the field other
than at, quarterback they were completely overmatched and by the,
way and the difference Between week one and The Super

(01:41:32):
bowl was, obvious and The Super Bowl Jalen hurts was.
Incredible SO i don't want to MAYBE i shouldn't even say,
that but you, Know Justin herbert was awesome in week,
one but so Was Patrick. Mahomes and it's just LIKE
i just go back, to you, know sometimes you can
just see it with your. Eyes is that you know they?
Win what thirteen one? Score AM i? CRAZY i don't
know if it was thirteen they, were, Yeah and it's

(01:41:53):
like at some point those are just gonna flip the other.
Way you just can't rely on. It AND i just
go back, to you, know receivers Minus Xavier worthy minus
or She, Rice Travis. Kelcey it's been a great, career
but can kind of tell it's? Over oh, line is
this you know they've lost, guys defense. WHATEVER i just
don't see. It and you, Know i'll say this kind

(01:42:15):
of pretty, random but it was interesting to. ME i
was WATCHING tv. Yesterday let's just Say jamart there's a
very high profile person in the MEDIA i won't name,
names who's From Kansas city and is a Huge chiefs,
fan and it was interesting to watch him like not
even be able to wrap his like it just was

(01:42:37):
inconceivable to him that this is anything other than in
abnormality these last two. Games And i'm not even picking on.
HIM i just THINK i get that if you're A chiefs,
fan you've seen, whatever six STRAIGHT afc championship, games whatever it,
is three Straight Super. Bowls it's, LIKE i JUST i
don't see much special outside of number fifteen on that.

(01:42:59):
TEAM i really.

Speaker 3 (01:43:00):
Don't, YEAH i, mean, look we watched That Bill's ravens,
game That Sunday night, game which is another just a classic.
Game chiefs are just not anywhere near as good as
those football teams in my, Opinion they're just. Not, like
with all due respect to the brilliance Of Andy reid
and the magic Of Patrick, mahomes, like eventually you just
don't have enough of the other, Joes Like mahomes can

(01:43:21):
only do so, much AND i think we've kind of
hit that point where it's, like, Dude allen and they've
just they're just dealing on a different level with so
much more to sort of hang their hat, on look
at and hand the football off to a guy Like
Derrick henry and then What lamar can do on the.
Ground like there's just those two teams watching. That it
was just, like, Yeah Kansas city is just not, this

(01:43:44):
not this, anymore, Man they're just Not.

Speaker 2 (01:43:46):
Yeah it was, interesting you, KNOW i was thinking about
this is. That you, know The New England patriots obviously
had that early run of the dynasty where it was
really defense, led and then all those guys got, Old
Teddy bruski And Richard's seymore gets traded and, whatever and
then it became A brady. Thing AND i just feel
like we're kind of at that middle point of This

(01:44:07):
chiefs dynasty where you know it's gonna be a couple you,
know down years relatively, speaking you, know compared to what they've,
done and down. Years may may still be making the.
Playoffs maybe there's a run in, there BUT i just
think there's gonna be a couple down. Years Andy reid'll
figure it. Out he's a smart. GUY i still think
he's gonna be around as long as he can physically
do the. Job BUT i think it's over all, right

(01:44:28):
enough of this One. Ian what is the next game
up on the?

Speaker 3 (01:44:30):
Docket?

Speaker 7 (01:44:31):
Yeah next, Up Ben johnson's going To detroit to face
his former, team The. Lions that's The bears versus The.
Lions detroit's favored by six and a half. Points what
do you guys? Think you, KNOW i don't know about the.
COVER i do Think detroit gets to. Win and you,
know if you had asked.

Speaker 2 (01:44:48):
Me after the opening driver too In chicago last week
On Monday night, FOOTBALL i would have, said you, KNOW
i feel a little bit, different AND i Know Ben
johnson is going to, have you, know some tricks up his.
Sleeve and as we discussed, EARLIER i was completely underwhelmed
by WHAT i saw from The Detroit lions last. Week
BUT i just feel like at. Home you, know, clearly,

(01:45:11):
Listen i'm not as negative AS i was maybe an hour.
Ago i'm not ready to give up On caleb Uh
Caleb williams just. Yet but the counter to that is
there is clearly a lot of work to be, done
even if it is going to work. OUT i think
The lions do get to win On.

Speaker 3 (01:45:27):
Sunday, Yeah i'm with. YOU i do. TOO i think
THAT i think That. CHICAGO i think it's going to
be an interesting game to watch Because Ben johnson's going
to be trying to show up The. Lions he, is
AND i JUST i don't know that HE'S i don't
know that that team that he coaches is ready to
do that just. Yet and The, LIONS i would feel.

(01:45:47):
DIFFERENT i would feel maybe better For chicago's chances if
we had not seen what we saw last week with The.
LIONS i just can't See Dan campbell and that team
not answering after the performance that they put on and
pretty much the butt kicking that they took from Green.

Speaker 1 (01:46:06):
Bay.

Speaker 2 (01:46:07):
Yeah the other thing, too is Green bay winning On
thursday night pretty. CONVINCINGLY i, mean there's just a possibility
that they're head and shoulders above maybe everybody in THE
nfc except for The Philadelphia. Eagles so there's that possibility as.
Well detroit hosting The Chicago. Bears i'll tell you, what
why don't we come back look at the rest of

(01:46:28):
the week, Too. Slate but before we, do, though THE,
SEGA i don't have the fight in front of. ME
i don't have A netflix, Account SO i. Apologize if
we're like around away and we should have just waited
for five, MINUTES i. Apologize that's.

Speaker 6 (01:46:40):

Speaker 2 (01:52:12):

POOL i had to make my, pick you, know pretty,
early and not early in the, week BUT i had
to make. IT i had to make it by first
thing this, morning BUT i KNEW i wasn't gonna be available.
YESTERDAY i took The Vikings jj. McCarthy i'm very happy for,

(01:52:35):
him but did leave the team to be with his
wife or his FIANCE i, believe who just gave birth
to their first. Child congrats a healthy baby. Boy i'll
just say, THIS i am very worried about my, pick
BUT i gotta Pick. Minnesota minnesota by one. Hundred but
congrats TO jj, McCarthy who just had his.

Speaker 3 (01:52:53):
Firstborn, yeah that's, tough go, RIGHT i, mean it's it's
not the WELL i say, that but obviously it's much
more important than one football game is going to. Be
but you also had An atlanta team that found a
way to, lose yeah To Baker mayfield and The, buccaneers

(01:53:15):
so they're already a little bit ticked. Off minnesota coming
off an emotional kind of comeback victory where they really
came alive and made plays when they had to down
the stretch of the. GAME i Understand minnesota is favored
and at, home but with the events Of minnesota's week
And atlanta being angry and probably having a tough weekend,

(01:53:37):
Practice i'm going with The falcons.

Speaker 2 (01:53:40):

WHAT i saw from them last. Week Tampa bay man
If igbuka is gonna make us forget About Chris godwin

(01:54:17):
Fast they looked pretty good And baker was dealing when
he had to last. Week, Actually i'm gonna Take Tampa
bay on the.

Speaker 2 (01:54:22):
Road i'll be. QUICK i will Take. Houston don't feel
great about, it but to your, point you made a second,

Speaker 6 (01:55:52):
Tonight it's. Unanimous the judges cards head at one sixteen one,
twelve one fifteen one thirteen and the other one fifteen
one thirteen For Terrence crawford forty two and o winning
At Allegiate stadium.

Speaker 2 (01:56:06):
Tonight all, right there you. Go it was the big
fight On. Netflix you, know don't don't really have much to.
Add we've obviously been doing a radio. Show i'm Sure Bernie,
fratto by the, way who follows us lives In, vegas
will have plenty to say about this. One canelo's first
loss Since may twenty twenty, two as he sits prior to.

(01:56:28):
Tonight Canelo alvarez came into this fight sixty eight total,
fights sixty three sixty, three three and. Two obviously takes
the loss.

Speaker 3 (01:56:38):
Too do you really lose if you make a hundred
million dollars on the?

Speaker 2 (01:56:41):
Fight, no not, really says you, know he's gonna sleep.
Good you know he, might you, know it might be
a little bit, swelling but you know he'll sleep on a.

Speaker 3 (01:56:49):
Bed i'd probably take.

Speaker 2 (01:56:51):
It, YEAH i take get my brains beat, in and you,
know in front of tens of millions of people to
get one hundred million. Dollars so, Yeah canela. Loses Terence crawford,
wins speaking of making a bunch of money and not
giving anybody what they. Want Adam, silver all, right So

(01:57:11):
Adam silver this. Week and by the, way, Again Bernie
freda will have more on the fight here in just ten.
Minutes SO, nba they have obviously signed this this NEW
tv deal they will start this, year no More, TURNER,
ESPN nbc And amazon over a billion dollars in these

(01:57:33):
NEW tv. Deals and SO i bring it up because you,
know it does raise the question that many of us have.
Asked you, know we're moving towards this world of you,
know you have to have this, app and you know
some of THE nbc package will actually be on. Peacocky
you of course have to Have, AMAZON espn has their

(01:57:53):
new app. Whatever So Adam silver this week asked about
the new. Package, hey everybody's so excited about, It but
what about all these streaming? Services what about the fan
that has to pay all this money to watch your? Games,
well here is What Adam silver had to say to
fans who have to pay a bunch of.

Speaker 8 (01:58:09):
Money there's a huge amount of our content that people
can essentially consume for. FREE i mean this is very
much a highlights based. Sport you. Know so you Know, instagram,
TikTok you Know, twitter you name, it any service you
know The New York times for that, matter to the
extent that your content is not behind a paid. Firewall

(01:58:31):
there's an enormous amount of content out. There, YouTube by another,
example that people that is advertising, based that consumers can.

Speaker 2 (01:58:38):
Consume let me just say, this jmrt Bro IF i
IF i was an executive At amazon OR, Nbc i'd
be thrilled to, Hear, hey we're paying a couple hundred,
million but go to YouTube and, TikTok don't actually get
that subscription service to Watch luca and The lakers And Shay,
Gildas alexander and The.

Speaker 3 (01:58:54):
Thunder so there's a there's a famous YouTube, CLIP i,
guess or streaming clip or something like that where essentially
there's an influencer that's pushing a relatively high priced item
and people are complaining about the cost of that. Item
it's just kind of, like that's a ridiculous cost for

(01:59:15):
what you're. Getting and her response, is if you're a broke,
boy just say. So that's WHAT i thought listening to
that clip that that's What Adam silver is basically suggesting right.
There he's, like if you broke, boy just say. So
you can find. Yourself you can find yourself a highlight
you can you can catch up On Sports. Center you,

(01:59:37):
know you can find. Us there where a highlights. Sport,
anyway if you if you can't afford all the streaming
service is necessary to watch the, league then what you,
know you don't have to watch the. Games, basically he's,
saying if you're, poor we don't. Care if you are
a frugal we don't. Care if you are trying to
make ends, meet we don't. Care if you are you
know someone with multiple kids and so you need to

(02:00:00):
put their needs ahead of your, own then we don't
care because THE nba is now for rich. People like,
good good, Work Adam. Silver. Awesome you look like you
should be, smart but you were one of the dumbest
Individuals i've ever seen in a position of power in pro. Sports.

Speaker 2 (02:00:15):
Yeah shout out to the execs At amazon AND nbc
who were again. Thrilled AND i didn't think we're gonna
end with broke boys here on The Saturday night, show
but we gotta get out of. Here want to thank the,
Crew mary Mac, Ian Steve desager from my Partner Jason.
