Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Welcome man, everybody, Fox Sports Radio, Fox Football Saturday Er
towards Jason Martin. We are broadcasting live from the Fox
Sports Radio studios eleven pm Eastern. We have so much
going out of the world to college football right now. Missouri,
sixteenth ranked, has just tied things up at auburns seventeen

(00:24):
seventeen with four minutes to go in that one. We
also have Alabama pulling away from Tennessee thirty seven to
twenty is the score they're in the fourth quarter, and
USC trailing Notre Dame thirty four to ten. Busy Saturday
across college football, Jason Martin, what's going on, buddy?

Speaker 3 (00:44):
How are you.

Speaker 4 (00:45):
Doing pretty well? Man? Yeah, it is definitely a busy Saturday,
but a pretty fun Saturday. Nonetheless, even though you know,
Bama Tennessee could have been better to pick six at
the end of the first half basically defined the game.
After that point. It just if they score right there,
we got a different game, but not the way it went.
But a couple more undefeateds have gone down already this weekend.

(01:07):
We had one on Friday, obviously, and we had another
one today. So you know, we're starting to separate here,
and you're starting to wonder if anybody is that good.
I think maybe you still have one argument there. I
don't know that you have two. But there is a
ton to talk about. Plus, last week, James Franklin had
a job when we were on the show, and this

(01:27):
week James Franklin doesn't. But he can't wait, he says
to coach again.

Speaker 2 (01:31):
Well, I'll tell you this, there's other pressing things to
talk about. We got to get to a lot of
stuff from today. I'll give you credit, though, because you
were pretty adamant on air. No, I don't think he
survives all of this, and I was kind of just, hey,
you know, it's he's gonna make it till the end
of the season. Maybe he tries to find another job,

(01:51):
maybe somebody hires him, maybe he takes like a UCLA
type job. I don't know. You were adamant, ay, don't.
I don't think he survived this. And so sure enough,
James Franklin is out fifty million dollars richer, maybe, depending
on you know, what his future job status is.

Speaker 3 (02:08):
He did an interview with College Game Day earlier.

Speaker 4 (02:10):
Today.

Speaker 2 (02:11):
We'll discuss that should mention. By the way, I mentioned
all these big games still going on. Top twenty five
matchup in provo the Holy War BYU up seventeen to
fourteen on Fox as well. Uh Man, there's a lot
going on right now. We got Auburn tied. They were
driving a mispass interference. I won't say poor Hugh Freeze
because I know most people don't feel bad for him.

Speaker 3 (02:32):
But he was livid in that game.

Speaker 2 (02:35):
Also another controversial penalty non penalty in Notre Dame. USC
will keep you updated, Jmar. There's a couple of things
I want to get to, including a few things that
are going on and and just now finishing. I have
some negative, but I do want to start with a
positive because I think you said that there's maybe one

(02:56):
to two teams that are separating themselves. Let me ask
you this, Okay, So we no longer live in this
twelve in this fourteen playoff era where you have to
win every single game and you're judged almost essentially exclusively
on wins and losses. Okay, So I bring that up
to ask you. Alabama up thirty seven to twenty. A
couple of minutes left in that game, they're probably gonna

(03:17):
beat Tennessee. It will be their fourth straight ranked win
and sixth straight win overall since the Florida State debacle.
I understand Ohio State's undefeated. They haven't played anything close
to a ranked I guess Texas is ranked, but Texas
will get to it a minute barely survived argument I'm
asking you. Argument I'm making, and you can include Indiana,

(03:38):
you can include other one loss teams. I know they
won't be number one in the polls tomorrow, But is
Alabama the best team or playing the best in the
country right now?

Speaker 3 (03:47):
Are they college football's best?

Speaker 4 (03:49):
I mean, I think there's an argument to be made there.
I think Ohio State, Ohio State. I think I heard
Ariy Wassman say this a couple of days ago. He said,
we're basically in Ohio State. I think he said after Miamis.
He said, we're in Ohio State loss away from nobody
being that good. And I think there's truth to that.
I do think Ohio State. You know, you're right, they

(04:10):
haven't seen kind of what we've seen from Alabama. I
think because of what Alabama has done and the opponents
that they have run through, I would favor them right now.
Although you know, there's definitely some moments there where the
defense can give up some serious points and you don't
see that a lot from Ohio State. And then on

(04:30):
the flip side, obviously the offense is doing what it
needs to do. I just I don't know yet how
good Ohio State is, just because I haven't seen them
against just great competition as of yet. But we know
what the talent level is there. So I think those
are probably the two. In Indiana is the other one,
because I mean, they haven't been beaten, and they went
on the road and beat Oregon, and you know, we're

(04:51):
still going to see some more from them before the
end of the year. But I think we have seen
a few of these other teams take at least a
half step back over this last couple of weeks or so,
and so that's I think your argument's right. I think
right now it is Alabama and Ohio State, although I mean, look,
Georgia keeps answering a lot of questions as well. That

(05:11):
was a nice that was a nice comeback win. I
thought Ole Miss had them at thirty five twenty six,
and then you look up and all of a sudden,
it's forty to thirty five, and then you look up again,
it's forty three to thirty five and it's a wrap
And that was an impressive win for them. So you know,
there's some other teams. You got A and M out
there that continues to win and all that. But I
think there's a lot of parody to be had. But
I would probably go Ohio State and Alabama right now.

Speaker 3 (05:35):
So I don't disagree with that.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
By the way, the crazy thing about Ohio State, we
might not learn how good they are until the Big
Ten Championship Game until the College Football Playoff next week
the Marquee Showdown. That isn't facing the three and four
Penn State Nitney Lions. That one has lost some juice.
Actually that's two weeks from now. So Ohio State and
Penn State both have a bye next week, So Ohio

(05:57):
State Penn State have a bye. Then it's Ohios Penn State.
What we thought was maybe a national championship game preview
is instead the three and four Penn State in Thellions
versus Ohio State. Then they close with at Purdue, UCLA
at home, Rutgers at home at Michigan. Now we know
the history of Michigan, will see what happens there. But
Ohio State looks like they're trending towards a Big Ten

(06:19):
championship game appearance where they will likely play Indiana. You know,
we'll see what Michigan becomes over the back half of
the year. But Ohio State, I would assume, is not
only going to be favored in every game left, but
probably a double digit favorite in pretty much every game.

Speaker 3 (06:33):
So I'm with you on Bama. I think you can
make the argument.

Speaker 2 (06:37):
I you know, listen, I don't want to be like,
you know, Lukewarm radio guy right now, but I do
think one of the things about this twelve team playoff
ear we don't need to have a definitive answer, and
this stuff is going to figure itself out. And I
do think, you know, I haven't really thought that much
about it, but I would think that even with the loss,
you would have to argue Alabama has the best resume.

Speaker 3 (06:56):
No, it does have the best resume right now. Texas longhorns.

Speaker 2 (07:00):
Boy, So we are coming on air for people who
are driving around. I know Disaga has kept everybody updated.
I know Martin and Monci did the same. Texas survives
and the key word in Lexington Kentucky is in fact
survive Texas sixteen Kentucky thirteen. Kentucky entered this game two
and three oh and three in the SEC. How about

(07:23):
this for a stat line, Kentucky outgained Texas by over
two one hundred yards. This is a team that again
was two and three coming in oh and three in
the SEC outgained him by over two hundred yards. Texas
finishes with one hundred and seventy nine yards of total
offense forty seven yards rushing arch manning twelve of twenty

(07:45):
seven one hundred and thirty two yards. Really quickly in overtime,
Kentucky got the ball first, went for it on fourth down,
fourth and one, they got stuffed a field goal gives
Texas to win, but a week after the best performance
of their season. Even in a win, I think you
could argue it was the worst performance of Texas's season
as they survive at Kentucky.

Speaker 4 (08:06):
J Martin. I mean, that's a team that was winless
in conference, that Kentucky team, and Texas really should have lost.
I mean, they definitely were in position to lose. I'm
not exactly sure what Mark Stoops was doing in overtime,
but I understand you go for the win, but at
the same time just ran straight at their gigantic defensive

(08:30):
line and just thought you were going to get into
the end zone. There you kind of handed it away
and Arch made a nice throw on that last series
to get that to get what looked like it could
be the game winner. And then they allow Kentucky to
come down and kick a field goal in the final
minute of the game. But Texas is just not very good,
like they what they did to Oklahoma. Notwithstanding we understand
there's a lot of talent on that roster, but this

(08:53):
has been just a bad deal all the way around.
The offensive line has struggled throughout the year, the defense
has kind of been spotty at best. We don't even
have to talk about the quarterback yet, but I know
we're about to. And really, I mean Sarkasian and that
coaching staff, there's not much to shine towards them either
in a positive sense. So for them to be five

(09:13):
and two to beat a not very good at all
Kentucky team, a guy that, like, look their coach, they
can't wait to get Mark Stoops out of there in
Kentucky like that, that whole thing has completely come unraveled,
and you go into their building and they almost beat
you when you're barely ranked to start with, Like this

(09:34):
is just a rough go. And then you look at
Arch twelve to twenty seven, one thirty two. They averaged
one point seven yards on the ground in this game
twenty eight carry. You said, forty seven yards on twenty
eight carries, folks, Like, what are we doing here? This?
This was a team that was one of the two
favorites to win it all going into the year. They

(09:55):
were my pick. As a matter of fact, this is
a complete fair Like we talk about Penn State and
deservedly so this is as bad almost, Like obviously Arts
didn't have the same level of experience that Drew Aller
did and all of that, and they brought everybody back
at Texas did lose some guys last year. I understand that,

(10:16):
but this is an absolute failure too. Like this Texas team,
I understand they're five and two, but they don't look
five and two and they're not scary at all when
I see them on the schedule if I'm an opponent.

Speaker 2 (10:26):
Yeah, thing with Texas is, you know the schedule will
get tougher at Mississippi State next week, but final four
Vandy at home. We know what Vandy did. We'll talk
about them here in just a minute. At Georgia Arkansas,
and then A and M at home. So three of
the last four are at home. But it is worth

(10:47):
noting that three of those four are currently ranked in
the top twenty all three one today and from there
were they're going to continue really quickly, just to keep
everybody updated. Notre Dame, we do have a final. Notre
Dame has bet in USC thirty four to twenty in
that game, and it's also worth noting too, BYU has
taken a twenty four to fourteen lead Texas Tech. With

(11:10):
what happened with them today, BYU will be alone in
first place. If they are to hold on to this win,
they would be the only undefeated team in Big Twelve
play at this point. Actually, I take that back, Cincinnati
is undefeated as well in league play. BYU the only
remaining undefeated team up ten with about four minutes to go,

(11:31):
sticking with Texas, J Mart, Yeah, I don't know what
else there is to really add, To be perfectly honest,
is it's just it's not clicking, and it's not like,
to be clear, it's one of those weird things where
like any criticism that you have of Arch, I think
is totally fair. And by the way, because now it's
this reverse thing of like Arch didn't name himself the

(11:53):
heisman arched in it.

Speaker 3 (11:54):
This Arch I get it.

Speaker 2 (11:56):
I also understand that when you're at Texas as the quarterback,
there is a baseline level of expectation of how you're
gonna play. And I'm sorry, twelve of twenty seven on
the road with one hundred and thirty two yards passing
is not it four and a half yards per completion?
So like, you know, there's kind of like this reverse
Arch narrative now of like, well, he's not the one

(12:17):
that put these expectations on himself. No, but we thought
he would be a functional quarterback and he's not. But
at the same time, it is also a team wide thing.
And it's so funny because we talked about this a
few weeks ago when they lost to Florida. It's like,
you know, you want to be fair, you want to
be balanced. It's not just an Arch thing. It is
the old line hasn't progressed the way we thought. The

(12:39):
defense is actually pretty good, although they weren't against Florida
a few weeks ago. But I think, to me, it's
a balance of what we just said of like, you
can't solely blame it on him, but the counter to
that is we also can't pretend like none of it
is his fault.

Speaker 3 (12:57):
Either he is not playing. Let me put it this way.

Speaker 2 (12:59):
You know the kid Cutter Bawl from Kentucky tonight, thirty
one to thirty nine passing in this game. You know
he doesn't get to win, but thirty one to thirty
nine passing two hundred and fifty eight yard, he was
the better quarterback today. So I just bring it up
because again, I know I'm kind of going along here
on this point, but like, two things can be true
on Arch is that one, it's not all his fault,

(13:19):
but he's also not playing at the level that he
needs to elevate his teammates when they're struggling the way
that they are.

Speaker 4 (13:27):
No, that's right, It's it's definitely not all Arch, but
it is some March. I mean, that's that's really the
short way to put it. Nobody wearing a Texas uniform
is playing particularly well. Like there's not anybody that's just
a complete standout right now. Yes, they do have some
talented guys, but I mean Wizler had thirty seven yards
on the ground in this game. Arch how is it

(13:49):
that Arch Manning gets out rushed by the quarterback too?
Cutter Bowley has fourteen carries for forty five yards and
a touchdown. Arch Manning with his sacks, has eleven carries
for negative one yard in this game. The offensive line
istu for them again. The coaching on the sidelines hasn't
been particularly impressive either. It's just been a failure. Like
it's everybody has underperformed this year. But the larger point is, yes,

(14:11):
he did not declare himself the walking Heisman winner last
year anything like that. He tweeted three times and what
three four years or something like that. He didn't ask
for all this. Yeah, but when you go to Texas
and you accept QB one, and it's not just because
of the pressure of being a Texas it's because of
his last name. Like it's gonna be a double edged sword.

(14:32):
It's gonna be it's gonna give you a lot of
rope at first, and then afterwards it's gonna completely try
to pull you back in in the opposite way. And
it can be an anchor to drive you back down.
And that's kind of what we're seeing right now, is
his talent is not enough to match up with his name,
and so all of it looks completely wrong and it
becomes target practice for anybody because it doesn't take it

(14:54):
doesn't take much analysis to look at this season and
say man Arch is not what anybody says that he
was going to be when he came to Texas originally,
not at all. And he's been on that campus for
a couple of years now and this is not looking
good like this. He's definitely gonna be back in college
next year. The question is will he even be at Texas.

Speaker 3 (15:15):
It's a totally fair question.

Speaker 2 (15:17):
Texas does survive sixteen to thirteen. Sixteen to thirteen, They
survive in overtime despite getting out gained by over two
hundred yards. Keep me updated, as I just said, there
is a final at Notre Dame thirty four to twenty four.
In that game, Notre Dame wins US. He takes their
second loss of the season. Alabama up thirty seven twenty

(15:39):
on Tennessee with about a minute and a half to go.
BYU up twenty four to fourteen on Utah BYU, the
only remaining undefeated team.

Speaker 3 (15:48):
In the Big Twelve.

Speaker 2 (15:49):
We got a really interesting one out in Auburn, Alabama.
Seventeen seventeen Missouri about midfield, third down, twenty four seconds
to go. We'll see if they can get in field
goal range. It is a very quintessential Auburn game. They
were up seventeen to ten. Weird possession where double penalty

(16:11):
on one play put Missouri in position to get a
game tying touchdown seventeen seventeen, twenty four seconds to go.
Missouri has just taken a false start excuse me, a
you know, motion penalty basically on the offensive line. Fox
Sports Radio eritors Jason Martin, broadcasting live from the Fox
Sports Radio studios, will keep you updated on what's going on,

(16:33):
and we will go ahead and switch gears to what
I thought, maybe maybe considering Texas one maybe the biggest
story of the day. Vandy Lsu, Brian Kelly, what's his deal?
We'll discuss all that next Fox Sports Radio.

Dodgers on Friday Night, clinch the trip to the World
Series show, Hey Otani, a nice little.

Speaker 3 (18:02):
Three home run game winning, you know, game winning.

Speaker 2 (18:06):
As the pitcher performance for the Dodgers one of the
great performances, if not the greatest performance we've ever seen
on a baseball diamond. Speaking of what we've seen on
a baseball diamond, seen that Red Ostrich logo on professional
baseball postseason helmets at Strauss family owns it's nineteen forty
eight and trusted by pros worldwide. Pants build like tools, durable, comfortable,

(18:26):
and engineer to perform from grit to glory. Gear up
now at Strauss dot com. That Strauss st Rauss dot com.
All right, keeping you updated on some college football in overtime.
We are officially in overtime. Alburn, Alabama, Missouri Auburn tied
at seventeen. Auburn has the ball. They have missed two

(18:48):
field goals to this point, and of course Jackson Arnold
naturally just took a sack to basically put them out
of field goal range. Jaymart, I don't think Auburn Missouri
is a topic today. I would say about this, Jackson
Artle maybe have the worst awareness of any quarterback that
I've ever seen in college football. And I watched dj

(19:09):
Uyangalile for five years. He is so bad. He just
took a sack in overtime when they were clearly in
field goal range on like second and four. Now it's
third and seventeen. I'm over that team, you know who.
I'm not over the BYU Cougar's up twenty four to
fourteen as they try to close out a holy war win,
which would put them in first place at seven and

(19:30):
oh and four and oh in the Big Twelve. As
we mentioned, Notre Dame does beat USC in Alabama. That
is a final, by the way, in Tuscaloosa, thirty seven
to twenty.

Speaker 3 (19:40):
J Mart, Let's stay in college football. Let's stay in
the SEC.

Speaker 2 (19:44):
We will not talk Auburn please for the love of God,
as they are lining up for a field goal to
try to go up twenty to seventeen. But do want
to go to another SEC stadium Nashville, right down the
street from where you are.

Speaker 3 (19:58):
I don't know if you were there today or what.

Speaker 4 (20:00):
But I could hear it. No, I'm just kidding. I couldn't.
But something else, man Like, this Vanderbilt story has gone
from being cute to being legit real quick.

Speaker 2 (20:11):
Well, speaking of really quick, Auburn has missed a field
goal in overtime. They're about to lose this game really
quick to Missouri Missouri five and one right now ranked
in the top twenty. Auburn has missed three field goals
in this game. Let's talk LSU Vanderbilt.

Speaker 4 (20:26):
Though.

Speaker 2 (20:26):
Final score in this game just a heck of basically,
like you said, Jaymart, it has become a heck of
a story. I think last year when Vandy beat Alabama,
as you said, it was a cute story. It was
a fun story. Vanderbilt finishes six and six. Well today
maybe at LSU to improve to six and one on
the season. Thirty one to twenty four is the final score.

(20:48):
And listen, I'll say this. I want to make this
about Vandy and that this is the greatest story that
we've ever seen.

Speaker 4 (20:55):
It is.

Speaker 2 (20:55):
It is a great story. Vanderbilt very much in the
College Football Playoff.

Speaker 4 (20:59):
Well, and listen, before we do what we're about to do,
because I know what you're about to do, Let's make
it about Vanderbilt for about thirty seconds at least to say,
Diego Pavia is one of the most entertaining players to
watch in a country. He's a great quote, He's just incredible.
The last couple of years have been awesome to see
and clark Lee has won. Now I think it's nineteen
straight games when he's leading at halftime. Wow, which is

(21:22):
an impressive number for clark Lee. Like, I mean, that's
a new guye head coach that has done some incredible
stuff at Vanderbilt. So I do want to point those
two things out. That's a legit team, that's a good team,
easily could have found a way to lose that game
and did not. Now let's talk about the obvious.

Speaker 2 (21:38):
The obvious is LSU stinks, and LSU stinks and Brian
Kelly stinks.

Speaker 4 (21:44):
Listen, I know what people in a second man, Garrett
Nusmeyer is like, Hey, let.

Speaker 2 (21:49):
Me defend gar Garrett Usbyer wasn't terrible to tell he
was fine. He was fine. And listen, let me say this.
I know what people are saying. Oh as he was
five and two. Okay, let's look at their wins. Cletes, Texas,
Clemson loss, Yeah exactly. Clemson lost today to fall to
three and four. Florida won today to improve to three
and four. South Carolina lost today to improve to three
and four. Those are their great wins. But this is

(22:11):
now year four for Brian Kelly and you know Jamart.
We've talked about this with different teams and different programs
in this college football playoff era, but putting aside who
Brian Kelly is one, the program speaks for itself LSU.
Everybody knows the stat The last three coaches, Nick Saban,
Les Miles and edw Arsround have all won a national championship.

(22:31):
But in this college football playoff era, in this NIL
portal era, it is very well known in football circles
that Brian Kelly has been given more than everything that
he has needed to succeed.

Speaker 3 (22:46):
Blake Baker, the.

Speaker 2 (22:46):
Defensive coordinator, came over last year highest paid defensive coordinator
in college football. This year, NIL was crazy expensive, a
ton of money. That's on top of, as you said,
retaining guys like Garrett Nussemeier, this and that. Now five
and two, remember, let me even give a little bit
more context. Last year they go eight and four, which
I know it's a twelve team playoff era. There's more

(23:08):
balance in the sport than ever before. Eight and four
A LSU isn't good enough. The year before they wasted
Jaden Daniels Heisman Trophy season, they went nine and three
in the regular season and basically, if Jaden Daniels wasn't
Superman every single game, they probably would have been seven
and five or six and six. And so I bring
it up because they lose to Vandy today.

Speaker 3 (23:27):
And I'm sorry.

Speaker 2 (23:27):
When you're LSU, I don't care how good the story
is at Vandy You're not supposed to lose to Vandy,
and you look at the rest of the schedule. Next week,
A and M's coming to town, then you get a bye,
then you go to Alabama, then you close at Oklahoma.

Speaker 3 (23:42):
I'm not great at Matt J.

Speaker 2 (23:44):
Mart, But when you're five and two, you are going
to be a definitive underdog in those two road games,
and probably an underdog next week at home against a
seven and zero Texas A and M team. They're headed
for another seven and five, eight and four type year,
disappointing season. It's not working out. Brian Kelly, I just
not the guy. He's just not the guy. And oh

(24:05):
my goodness, Missouri has missed a field goal in overtime.
We're going to double overtime at Albird. A pair of
miss field goals in Albird.

Speaker 4 (24:11):
This is like Jaxson Arnold has a chance to get
sacked again.

Speaker 2 (24:14):
I know, Oh my goodness, that is unbelievable. So back
to back missfield goals in overtime, we're going to double overtime.
Sixteenth rank Missouri at Auburn. What a goofy game. Pick
the best game you've seen all year. And this is
the exact opposite of that. Oh, by the way, Eli
drag Witz running off the field thinking he kicked a

(24:35):
game woody field goal.

Speaker 4 (24:37):
No he did not. Okay what oh yeah, I'm seeing
it now.

Speaker 2 (24:39):
Oh my goodness again pick the best game that you've
seen in what what you know?

Speaker 4 (24:44):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (24:44):
Georgia, Tennessee. This is the reverse of that. Okay, all right?
So wow, well as you Okay, they stink. Brian Kelly stinks.

Speaker 3 (24:54):
I I don't know. They stink.

Speaker 2 (24:57):
And eight and four at LSU in year four is
not good enough. And that is where they are trending.
That is where they are headed. I don't know what
you want to add. And we've been all over the place.
It's one of those saturdays in college football.

Speaker 4 (25:09):
Man, this is what this timeslot is. So i'll add this.
I'll say everything that you just said is right. And
when it comes down to Brian Kelly, it was never
a cultural fit. It never made sense like from like, oh, yeah,
he should be the coach at LSU. That's that's a
match made in heaven. Like he seems exactly like Baton
Rouge like all that kind of stuff. There was nothing
about Brian Kelly that felt like LSU. But what was

(25:31):
like the common refrain coming back that left the eye
rolls is like, man winning works everywhere. If he wins,
he'll be perfect for that culture. Well, let me tell
you something. When you don't win, then what Because the
answer for me is he gotta go yep, because it
doesn't work, it doesn't fit. They're probably tired of this.

(25:54):
He proved a lot at Notre Dame, and so you
look at that name and you're like, well, who we're
gonna get that's better than Brian Kelly. Well, at this point,
I don't think eight and four is good enough to
maintain a name, like it doesn't make any sense at
this point, Like you can get a lot of guys
that can go to LSU and have the same record
Brian Kelly does. Like he doesn't have a whole lot
of signature wins. He's done almost nothing that you remember

(26:16):
as being the coach there except losing openers. That's like
the only thing I remember about the LSU program outside
of Jayden Daniels in the last three four years. So
you look at all of this and I don't think
it helps him. By the way that Garrett Nusmeyer got
all that praise coming into the season because it's not
reflected on the field based on the win loss totals

(26:36):
and all that. I'm not even sure how much of
it is on Garrett at all. Really, I have no idea.
But we've been told that LSU's defense is nasty and
all this, and you go look at it, it's like, no,
that's a pretty average football team again, and that's not
what you're paying Brian Kelly to do. And you made
another point there that made me start thinking of something
you talked about the defensive coordinator being the highest paid

(26:57):
defensive coordinator in the country, him everything he wants. Kind
of makes me think of Jim Knowles Penn State. Yeah,
defensive coordinator making insane money and a head coach that
just wasn't doing anything particularly special and didn't seem like
it was trending in the right direction in a pressure environment.

Speaker 3 (27:21):
Well, and I'll tell you what I think.

Speaker 2 (27:23):
That's a great example because you know, we've read a
lot and you're referencing Penn State.

Speaker 3 (27:29):
Jim Knowles is the defensive coordinator at Penn State.

Speaker 2 (27:32):
But I bring it up because we have heard a
lot of We've read a lot of different articles this
week about the Penn State downfall. And the number one
theme that I got is that for the last however
many years it is two, three, five, seven, ten years,
whatever it is, James Franklin has behind the scenes talked
about everything that he doesn't have. He doesn't have this,
he doesn't have that, nil has changed this, that the

(27:53):
other thing. And this was the year that he was
given absolutely everything that he needed. And we'll get to
Penn State in a minute, don't make no doubt about it.
But there's there's an LSU vibe to that too. Highest
paid defensive coordinator, you know. And it's one of those things.
You know, a couple of years ago, the offense was awesome,
had to fix the defense. Now the defense is I

(28:13):
don't think it's great, but it's good enough. But the
offense isn't good enough. And it's just you could take
it wherever you want. We got to get to disager.
But I think the theme that you said, it's not working.

Speaker 3 (28:25):
And here's the thing.

Speaker 2 (28:25):
Whatever we think of Garret nus Meyer, he's fourth fifth
year guy that's been in the program. What makes us
think that it's going to be better? And let's take
it a step further again with the James Franklin parallel.
Are the folks at LSU going to give him what
he needs to make it better? And you know they've
given him everything he needs. I just I don't know.

Speaker 4 (28:42):
It's just I don't think his hands are top on
his back in back and rouge. Yeah, I think that
that doesn't help him. The other thing about it is this,
I think the pressure is even greater at LSU regularly
than at Penn State because LSU has seen championships. You
think about Joe Burrow, you think about Nick Saban. They've
won some titles there less miles like, They've won a

(29:02):
lot of big time games and been right there in
the mix in national championship conversations on a regular basis.
Whereas Penn State's kind of always been that B plus
A minus level, it hadn't been that way for LSU,
And all of a sudden, you're looking at LSU like
a B plus B minus level program that's gonna fly
there much less than it would at Penn State. I mean,

(29:23):
James Franklin got a long time to not win big games.
I don't think Brian Kelly has that same leash because
despite his name and despite what he had accomplished at
Notre Dame, especially with the fit. But more importantly, LSU
fans aren't used to not being good. They're not used
to not being deemed as one of the best in

(29:44):
the country, and they're getting used to that, and that
means you gotta.

Speaker 3 (29:47):
Go well, and I'll take it.

Speaker 2 (29:49):
One last step further is I don't think they're getting
used to it, and I'll actually give them credit. You know,
I think sometimes college football fans get a negative whatever connotation, vibe,
whatever term you want to use. Think LSU fans were
the first one that kind of snuffed out, like, oh, ls,
you might not like this thing is not working. And
I think the people that, you know, those of us
on the national scale, I'm not talking about you or me,

(30:10):
but the people that don't watch the day today you're like, eh,
you know, but they're five and one. Like today they're
five and one, and it's like, no, it's not working.
You look now at the schedule, the wins, losses, all
of that. It is not pretty. Fox Sports Radio era
towards Jason Martin, broadcasting live from the Fox Sports Radio studio,
should mention for the best pregame show every weekend. Be
sure to tune into Fox Sports Radios Countdown to Kickoff,

(30:32):

games going final and one that is still in overtime.

Speaker 3 (30:55):
We got to discuss it all.

Speaker 2 (30:56):
Let's do it, and let's get it to the man
who will get us caught up on everything we've missed
throughout the day. Steve de Seger, what is trending?

Speaker 4 (31:03):
My friend?

Speaker 7 (31:04):
Hello, gentlemen, good to hear you. And are you saying
to hear you that Brian Kelly is not a culture
fit for LSU. He had the accent.

Speaker 2 (31:12):
Well, I'll say this, you know, I think sometimes that
stuff is overrated.

Speaker 4 (31:17):
Not in this case.

Speaker 3 (31:18):
It's just it's been weird from day one and it's
staying weird with all these losses.

Speaker 7 (31:25):
I thought the accent was a natural fit or not.
Missouri is in double overtime at Auburn tied at seventeen.
They do have a first and goal coming up. This
is the first possession of the double lot. Massou did
miss a thirty eight yard field goal at the end
of the first overtime. Just because the coach runs off
the field does not mean the kick is cout.

Speaker 2 (31:43):
Just for the record, that's like what the batter at
home plate tries to fool the up with ball four.

Speaker 3 (31:48):
It's like, no, it doesn't really work.

Speaker 7 (31:50):
Like no, it was actually wide left. Please return to
your sideline, coach. Auburn at home and tied in the
second overtime with missoo, which is right. Sixteenth seventeen seventeen.
Alabama did beat Tennessee thirty seven to twenty BYU at home.
Has just defeated rival Utah twenty four to twenty one,
and the freshman quarterback for the Cougars Bear Bachmeyer with

(32:12):
a touchdown pass and a touchdown run. He had eleven
carries sixty four yards BYU is seven and zero wins
in the top ten for Ohio State in Indiana number four.
Texas A and M held on tonight at Arkansas forty
five to forty two. Georgia beat Old Miss in a
fourth quarter comeback forty three to thirty five. Arizona State

(32:33):
at home defeated number seven Texas Tech twenty six, twenty
two wins for Oregon and for Georgia Tech. Vanderbilt at
home beat LSU thirty one, twenty four. Notre Dame at
home in the rain down USC thirty four twenty four
Trojans with three turnovers. Jeremiah Love of the Irish on
twenty four carries had two hundred and twenty eight yards

(32:53):
rushing and a touchdown. Oklahoma and South Florida with victories.
Eighteenth ranked Virginia one at home thanks to a field
goal and a safety in the last three minutes twenty
two to twenty over Washington State. Texas survive with an
overtime victory at Kentucky sixteen thirteen. UAB beat Memphis thirty
one twenty four. Memphis had been six and oh ranked

(33:15):
number twenty two. Cincinnati won at Oklahoma State tonight forty
nine seventeen Oklahoma State one and six. Now there are
three late games in the first half. Corgan State is
oho to seven this year and tied with Lafayette ten
all just before halftime. Stanford at home leads ten to
three against Florida State in the second quarter. Florida State
oh and three in the ACC halftime. On FS one

(33:38):
at New Mexico, Lobos are edging Nevada fourteen to twelve. Update.
Miszoo has scored twenty three seventeen for the moment, going
for two in the second overtime. Tampa Bay Bucks wide
receiver Mike Evans could return to play Monday after a
strain hamstring. Wide receiver a Mecca Buca questionable with his
hamstring injury. Washington wide receiver Deebo Samuel with the bruceed heel,

(34:01):
and Terry McLaurin and Noah Brown wide receivers are each
out again. Green Bay running back Josh Jacobs a game
time decision. Arizona quarterback Kyler Murray likely out this weekend
with a foot entry. The Chargers activated linebackers Khalil Mack
and Denzel Perriman before they host the Colts on Sunday.
NHL wins for Saint Louis and the New York Rangers.

(34:21):
The NBA season starts with two games on Tuesday. Most
teams start Wednesday. In Major League Soccer, Miami end of
the regular season with a five to two win over
Nashville Lionel Messi three goals, and the ALCS continues Sunday
night on FS one, Seattle up three games to two
plays at Toronto, updating Miszoo's two point conversion does not
go twenty three seventeen the lead at Auburn second hot

(34:45):
back to.

Speaker 3 (34:45):
You, Thank you very much, Steve Sager.

Speaker 2 (34:47):
This is Fox Sports Radio, Fox Sports Saturday Air Towards
Jason Martin broadcasting live from the Fox Sports Radio Studios.
Will keep you updated on the late game in Auburn,
al Alabama. When we come back, though, we got to
talk about a train wreck, maybe even bigger than Auburn,
the North Carolina Tarios.

Speaker 3 (35:05):
Oh boy, but should we actually care at this point?

Speaker 2 (35:08):
Jane Martin, we'll discuss that next Fox Sports Aredo.

Speaker 1 (35:15):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 2 (35:18):
Welcome back, everybody, Fox Sports Radio aeron Torres. Jason Martin
broadcasting live from the Fox Sports Radio Studios. We do
have a final in Auburn, Alabama, Number sixteen. Missouri survives
one of the goofiest games that I've seen, including by
the way Missouri's coaching the first overtime, thinking that his

(35:39):
team had won, running onto the field to celebrate, only
to have the field goal no good. They did score
a touchdown in the second overtime, stop Auburn on downs
and j Mart I don't know if you have a
crystal ball over there in Nashville, but you called it
the game ends on a I guess it wasn't a
Jackson Arnold sack.

Speaker 4 (35:58):
That was because the penalty, I mean it basically was.
It basically was for people.

Speaker 2 (36:04):
Who missed it on the play that they needed to
keep the game going. Jackson Donald essentially took a sack,
threw it up at offensive lineman, caught it, was looking
for someone to lateral it two and took a knee instead.
I think he thought, you know, maybe he could stop
the clock. There's no running clock in overtime. Welcome to

(36:24):
Auburn football. At twenty twenty five.

Speaker 4 (36:26):
People, by the way, Florida State.

Speaker 3 (36:30):
Hey what about them?

Speaker 4 (36:31):
Huh yeah, what about them? They're down ten to three
to Stanford, who also is about to potentially add a
field goal to that.

Speaker 2 (36:41):
What a story that is. I think I looked it up.
So since the since they were left out of the
college football playoff two years ago, five and nineteen.

Speaker 3 (36:51):
Overall their only win.

Speaker 2 (36:54):
This is good segue their only win in the ACC
the last two seasons, because they're three right now in
trailing Stanford.

Speaker 3 (37:02):
It was to col last year. Speaking of Col, know
who they beat last night, jmart in a game that.

Speaker 4 (37:09):
This segment, I'd like for you to refer to me
as Pablo.

Speaker 2 (37:12):
Oh, Pablo breaking you breaking stories that nobody really cared.
Now I'm just kidding, Uh, I'll say this good work
on the Kawhi stuff for Pablo Torre. I don't want
to say the Belichick stuff feel I don't want to
say it feels like overkill. But I just so North
Carolina loses on Friday night, twenty one to eighteen. No

(37:34):
one was watching. You were in bed by the time
this game went final. I guess unless you're a Cal fan,
and I think there's you probably count all them on
one hand. Across the country. We got another thing yesterday
with North Carolina. You know, leaked video of Bill Belichick
and Jordan Hudson Do I can't lie like I'm kind

(37:56):
of over this story, like he stinks.

Speaker 3 (38:00):
It's clear.

Speaker 2 (38:01):
You know, I thought Dan Wetzl did a good column
for ESPN this week. Basically, like we all wondered why
he wasn't getting ANFL interviews, It's like, well, now we
know he's stuck post Belichick.

Speaker 3 (38:11):
The girlfriend clearly, you know.

Speaker 2 (38:16):
I'm not blaming her for his coaching mishaps, but like
clearly plays a big role in his life that if
I was a billionaire NFL owner, I don't know that
I would.

Speaker 3 (38:25):
Want to deal with anyway. I just bring it up.

Speaker 2 (38:28):
I guess to some it's still interesting because this was
a guy that we all deemed to be the greatest
coach in the history of football, like eighteen months ago.
I just can't lie. I just don't find this story
that interesting anymore. Carolina falls to two and four this
past weekend. Another leaked video to Pablo Torre from I
don't even know if he's at ESPN anymore, but Pablo
Torre published a leaked.

Speaker 4 (38:48):
Video with The Athletic.

Speaker 2 (38:52):
Now, okay, I'm not trying to be a jerk. I
just this story isn't interesting to me. But maybe I'm
just in the don't you know, what do you make
of the ongoing let's throw dirt on the Bill Belichick grape.

Speaker 4 (39:05):
I don't care. Yeah, that's kind of where I am.
It's like this stuff is just kind of sordid, salacious,
you know, right for those like afternoon news magazine shows
back in the day, like you would have caught this
on a current affair or something like that. Like it
just it's not that it's not something that can be
reported on. It's just something that appeals to the lowest

(39:28):
common denominator. That's kind of how I see it, Like
this is low hanging fruit. It's not like you know,
whoever is reporting this, whoever's giving this information or whatever.
It's not that the information is lie. It's not that
it's false. It's not that if you want to cover
it that you should be able to cover it. It's
just that in the grand scheme, who cares at this
point in time. They're just a bad football team. This

(39:50):
whole thing was a disaster from the get go. We
all saw it in advance, and now you're just kind
of it's like you found this thing that seems to
attract attention, so you're just gonna continue to beat this
dead horse and grift as much as you can off
of it, even though it's like it's diminishing returns. But
maybe there's just nothing better to cover right now in

(40:13):
the sphere. But to me, this has definitely become something
that's just I saw it. I looked at an article
about it, and I was like, Okay, all right, got it,
move on. I bet they're gonna lose to cal And
then they did, and that was about it. UNC's a
disaster area and Belichick should have retired in New England.

Speaker 2 (40:29):
Yeah, at a certain point a story goes from like
badly interesting to just bad.

Speaker 3 (40:34):
And I think we're at that point with UNC.

Speaker 2 (40:36):
Fox Sports Radio Air towards Jason Martin, broadcasting live from
the Fox Sports Radio Studios.

Speaker 3 (40:40):
Will come back. You know who's not bad?

Speaker 2 (40:43):
I think I believe the Kansas City Chiefs big win
over the Lions.

Speaker 3 (40:47):
What does it mean? Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (40:50):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 2 (40:53):
Welcome back everybody, hour two towards Martin. Fox Sports Radio.
We are broadcasting live from the Fox Sports Radio Studios. Yes,
we are live midnight Eastern, and boy, oh boy, is
there a.

Speaker 3 (41:07):
Lots still going on.

Speaker 8 (41:09):
One real game of note, the Stanford Cardinal up thirteen
to three on the Florida State Seminoles, feels like two
lifetimes ago.

Speaker 2 (41:20):
J mart that the Florida State seminole. Did they beat
Alabama to open the season or am I we're positive
about that?

Speaker 4 (41:28):
Yeah, it's real.

Speaker 3 (41:29):
We were on air, okay, we you were gallivanting across globe.
I was on with Arnie Spandy.

Speaker 4 (41:35):
I was with had COVID by this point, so yeah,
I was. I was really having a great night.

Speaker 2 (41:39):
I was on with Arnie Spaniard and as you can imagine, yeah,
I was having the worst night. I was gonna say,
as you can imagine, he reacted with tempered caution over
a bad loss for Alabama to open the season. All right,
I'll tell you what, Jamart. I know we said we're
going to talk Chiefs. We'll get to the Chiefs in
a minute. They take care of business against the Detroit
Lions last weekend, and I think I think the Chiefs

(42:00):
are now one of the more interesting teams in the NFL,
as are the Detroit Lions, who of course faced the
Tampa Bay Bucks on Monday Night football this week.

Speaker 3 (42:08):
But I did want to ask you a question.

Speaker 2 (42:11):
I did kind of want to keep the college football
conversation going, J Martin.

Speaker 3 (42:14):
It's for this reason.

Speaker 2 (42:16):
It's because with the loss tonight. So we were on
air Missouri beats Auburn. Auburn is now three and four
oh and four in the SEC and a year where
I didn't think Hugh Freeze was really on the hot seat,
all of a sudden is now very much on the
hot seat. But I bring it up because we're not
gonna talk Hugh Freeze but a hot seat ish conversation,

(42:39):
because Hugh Freeze now feels like he's very much.

Speaker 3 (42:42):
On the hot seat. Oh and four in the SEC.

Speaker 2 (42:44):
We talked about Brian Kelly in hour one. Bill and
Api are by the way three and four going into
a bye.

Speaker 4 (42:51):
There's a I think this is when this the bye.
This is when this is gonna happen.

Speaker 2 (42:56):
That's what it feels like to me. As well. This
is their second by they're playing Georgia. They're three and four.
I'll say this, you know, if it is the end
for billion Apier, I give him credit. He said all
the right things in the post game. I actually listened
to see if he would say anything interesting, and he
just basically said how much he loves the kids, and
you know, I'm gonna eat a good meal tonight.

Speaker 3 (43:15):
And you know, there's some things that are out of
my control.

Speaker 4 (43:18):
I'm with you.

Speaker 2 (43:20):
There were multiple reports this week that it could happen this, this,
you know tomorrow Sunday, So you know one, I guess
we should start with Penn State because we have not
talked about Penn State since last week with the James
Franklin News. But also, I'll say this, it is trending
towards like a potentially historic hot seat. I mean, we

(43:40):
already have so many jobs open. I would call most
of them second tier UCLA, Oklahoma State, Arkansas, whatever. But
paton North Carolina, yeah, potentially North Carolina. Oregon State opened up,
which I know is no longer a Power Conference team.

Speaker 4 (43:55):
Yah.

Speaker 2 (43:55):
Stanford, by the way, you know they have an interim
head coach, and the agreement between Frank Reich that is
their head coach, and Andrew luck who is the GM
at Stanford, is that he will it's a one year
deal as a holdover, so Stanford will have a head
coaching opening as well. But I just bring it up
because I don't even know where you want to take this,
j Mart, but it feels like Florida is gonna open

(44:16):
every week with Auburn. It's getting weirder and weirder, Lsu.
You know, you think the buyout is too big, but
we saw it with Penn State. Who knows. Again, I'll
let you take this wherever you want. But it's just
it feels like there is going to be major, major
job turnover over these next couple months, and big name
jobs too again Penn State being opened up, and we

(44:38):
could talk Penn State in a minute specifically, but I
think Alburn all of a sudden feels like it could.
Florida feels like it's inevitable. It is about to be
a crazy couple months on the coaching care So.

Speaker 4 (44:47):
Yeah, I mean, you've got your Virginia text. You got
to say Kawtucky ees, you got There's a couple of
other ones out there as well. Florida State very possible
as well. I think that's probably gonna happen this year.
I think they're done with Norvell. Yeah, I mean, it's
it's crazy and I don't even know, like i'd have
to have a list of it to even begin to
try and talk about the best job and all this
other kind of stuff. But you look at the Penn

(45:08):
State situation, and last week when we were on air,
we were looking at it. We're just like, well, is
it just do you go ahead and let him finish
out the season even though he's kind of a dead
man walking at this point. You got Aler out of
there and all this, And that's another thing. It was
kind of a tip off. I don't think we noticed
it in the moment. But one thing that James Franklin
never did was like b fourth right about injuries almost never,

(45:33):
And right after the game he said, Drew Allers out
for the season.

Speaker 3 (45:36):
Wow, that's interesting.

Speaker 4 (45:38):
Yeah, it wasn't anything about like kind of trying to
snow it over or wait until the middle of the
week or he's gonna be a game time decision or
its questionable, and it's just now he's done for the year,
like he just like it was completely resigned to that.
And Franklin said what he said on game day today
because he has to write, because his contract says part

(45:58):
of that clause of him do his job is he
has to go actively seek another job. Like it's not
free and clear the way it is with some of
these other guys. There are some deals that are even worse,
but the Franklin deal, the buyout becomes significantly different for
Penn State if he goes out and gets another job,
and there's a lot of people that will hire James
Franklin and should It's not like he's a bad football coach.
He's just he he had worn out his welcome there

(46:21):
and it wasn't going in the right direction, and the
problems that he's always had continue to be those problems,
and it's game management and stuff at the end of
the game that he has actual control over. He just
there's just something that was never there for him in
that way. And I don't know that that's just ever
going to change no matter where it is that he goes.
But yeah, I think the other thing, I just think

(46:43):
the leash has shortened significantly for a lot of these coaches.
The buyout era is about to be over. Like this
whole like giant buyout thing. I feel like schools are
finally going to call these coaches bluff, like eventually, because
you're tying your you're tying your university down in a
way that it's just prohibitive to being able to build

(47:03):
the program. Like eventually, it's just all right, this guy's
gonna leave. He's gonna leave. But you can't submit yourself
to some fifty million, sixty million Jimbo Fisher like buyout
that then put you in that kind of position most
schools can't afford in the first place. But it's just
it's warrant this right here is just this is a
relic of the past.

Speaker 3 (47:22):
So I agree one hundred percent.

Speaker 2 (47:24):
And it's funny, of course, because that conversation comes on
the heels of the Kurtz Signetti extension.

Speaker 3 (47:30):
This week.

Speaker 2 (47:32):
I will say, we don't have to talk Signetti. But
there's an old saying there's an exception to every rule,
and the exception proves the rule. I think, Kurt Signetti,
you give him whatever he wants, yes, because he's Kurt Signetti,
and you're freaking Indiana. By the way, Indiana winning by
thirty plus at home, yeah, or twenty I think it
was like twenty four points at home, yet again to

(47:52):
improve to seven and zero. I do think there is
something to exactly what you just said, and I think,
by the way, most coaches would take that right. It
is if the r argument is, hey, we can give
you this huge buyout, but the counter is you're gonna
have less money to spend on players. In nil, I mean,
no coach takes a job in the Big ten or
the SEC or any of these prominent jobs, thinking oh,

(48:12):
I'm gonna stink, let me, you know, let me save
my money on the back end.

Speaker 3 (48:16):
And so I'm with you.

Speaker 2 (48:18):
I do think it's a relic of the past, and
I think, to be honest, it sets up some fascinating
conversations about where we are with a Brian Kelly is
how much more of a leash does he get?

Speaker 3 (48:30):
And do you, you know, eat.

Speaker 2 (48:32):
The buyout for this exact reason, as far as James
Franklin is concerned, really quick, let me ask you a question.

Speaker 3 (48:39):
Before we even get to like candidates, and how like,
on a scale of one.

Speaker 2 (48:43):
To ten, when you saw the news last weekend, Because
I'll be honest, like I do think you know, you
see it in real time, and you know you kind
of just okay, you immediately default to okay, who's gonna
be next, and who's this and who's that and all that.
But I also would say this is like when I
act actually sat back and thought about it. Fifty million essentially,

(49:04):
and again we understand there's clauses in the contract that
they might not have to pay full fifty million, but
fifty million, zero to them potentially they did make the
College Football Playoffs semi finals last year. They basically were
coming off three seasons in a row and basically an entirety,
an entirety excuse me, of a regime in which they
really only lost to good teams outside of the last

(49:26):
two weeks. Like I do want to talk about like
what the job is, what's next, But I'm also just curious, like,
are you surprised that they ultimately didn't make the move
when they did last week?

Speaker 4 (49:36):
Penn State? No, okay? And the reason why is because,
I mean, that was why I kind of said it
last week. I just feel like perception is everything right now,
and Penn State became a joke in a way that well,
in a different way the past. I'll just say that

(49:57):
this was a team that was supposed to compete for
a national championship, even if Drew Aller had not gotten injured.
This is a team that had underperformed in every way
you could possibly underperform. They had lost the games that
they never lost in the past, and of course they
lost the games that they always lost in the past.
And when you lose to UCLA and an interim coach

(50:18):
and a dude that's never called plays in his life.
And then you go and you lose to Northwestern, like
you're not going to survive that At Penn State when
you were already on thin ice, the thing was this
had to be the year for James Franklin. We said
that at the beginning of the year, like it's put
up or shut up. It's almost championship or bust here
because of what you're bringing back, because it's never going
to be better for Penn State than it is this year.

(50:41):
This is where you're set up for success, the best
that you ever have been. And for them to go
out and not just failed to reach those levels, but
failed to reach any level whatsoever where they beat anybody
of significance, it was just, I mean, what else were
you going to do in that case, like Penn State

(51:02):
alumni and those that have pride in that program. And
I think the hope coming into the year and the
hype coming into the year made the fall that much
harder and made the fall that much more difficult to
take for those people, Like I think they talked themselves
into it, you know what, I actually think we might
be able to do this, and then when they realized wait,
it's the same thing. In fact, it might actually be worse.

(51:25):
The ripcords got to be pulled. There Again, I don't
think James Franklin's a bad head coach. I just don't
think that he's a championship coach based on the way
that he manages the game. The decisions that he makes
continue to haunt him. And I think that's the biggest
thing is when you look at the UCLA game and
you look at the Northwestern game, decision making was poor

(51:45):
and it could be pointed out to have been poor,
not even looking at the injuries or anything that was
happening on the field. What was happening on the sidelines
that was in James Franklin's control just flat out did
not go very well. And so eventually a change had
to be made. Because again, if you are at your
apex and you are potentially not just gonna miss the playoff,

(52:06):
but you start looking at the schedule and say, well,
how many teams are they even gonna beat for the
rest of the year, that guy has to go. He does.
And that's why I think Brian Kelly's gone too. Like
I'm not even I don't even need to look up
the buyout. I don't care. I don't think LSU's gonna
gonna tolerate this because I don't think they like the
guy anyway, so that that doesn't help them. I think
Penn State did like James Franklin, but his act only

(52:27):
works when they're winning. And when you start winning, when
you start losing against those teams you'd never lose to,
then you've got nothing any more to actually hang your
hat on and say, this program's going in the right direction.

Speaker 3 (52:39):
Yeah, I don't.

Speaker 2 (52:39):
I don't disagree. I was surprised just because of the
monetary deal, but then I think we learned as a
week went on, the monetary deal might not be what
we thought it was. And I'll say this, like, certainly
because of what we're talking, there's so many jobs, like
he will get one if he wants one. I saw
a lot today about oh, he should just do TV
for a year, and there's gonna be a lot of

(53:01):
jobs open this year. And I don't know that he's
gonna be like a hotter candidate next year than he
would be this year. We'll see on that really quick.

Speaker 4 (53:08):
We'll say this, Remember I told you when I met
him in the studio here in Nashville when he was
at Vanderbilt. The first time I met him, I was
just like, man, he's a used car salesman, he's a politician.
I do think he'd be compelling on TV. I will
say that like I do think that that would work
on TV. That persona, he'd be able to play that
very very well. I also believe him when he says
he wants to continue coaching and there's gonna be places

(53:30):
to do that and programs where they would love to
have a James Franklin because he is a program builder.
He did it at Vanderbilt and he brought Penn State
to a place that they hadn't been in a very
very long time. And he deserves credit for both of
those things. That he could do that at North Carolina.
He can do that in a number of different places.
I don't know that he can win a championship anywhere,
but he's definitely the kind of guy that can get

(53:50):
you on the right track for a while.

Speaker 2 (53:52):
We will see really quick on Penn State. I think
two things could be true. I think I totally get
why the decision was made, given the circumstances, given everything
that we've discussed, given the fact that he has been given,
He was given everything needed to succeed, returned a bunch of.

Speaker 3 (54:10):
Talent in a year where Ohio State.

Speaker 2 (54:12):
Was losing a lot, Oregon was losing a lot, Michigan
starting a true freshman at quarterback. I also do wonder
realistically if they are going to be able to find
a candidate and find a next head coach that actually
people buy into at that program and at that job.
I mean, you know, listen, there was a report this
week that they're gonna take quote unquote big swings you

(54:33):
know at the you know, whoever you deem to be
the big coaches? Is there somebody out like like it
feels like Matt Rules probably the favorite in the clubhouse
for people maybe not follow this day to day. Matt
Rule is a Penn State alum. He worked with the
Penn State A d. Patkraft when they were both at Temple.
I think even that name, I get that he's an

(54:55):
a lump. I don't know that it moves the needle
when Nebraska's cover off a lost a bit of soo
and essentially doesn't win big games, just like James Franklin
doesn't win big games. So I'll be curious from your perspective,
I mean, I think two things can be true.

Speaker 3 (55:09):
It was probably time.

Speaker 2 (55:11):
I also don't know if they're going to be able
to hire somebody that really inspires and motivates the fan base.

Speaker 4 (55:16):
Well, I mean, I think that a lot of it's
gonna come down to how does Matt Rule in Nebraska
finish this season. If Matt Rule is going to be
the guy, Nebraska needs to finish strong so that that
kind of that fan base is kind of juvenated saying, well,
look away, he's done at Nebraska. He can definitely do
that here. This is better locale than that. Da da
da da dah. We've been closer to the Apex, you know,

(55:37):
all of those things. If they go out there in
this last half of the season and they're unimpressive or
even average, if for Iola and company just aren't able
to get the job done the same way, then the
luster of that hire is going to change. But I
will say this, like, when I see that as a
top name, it's not that I think it's bad. It's

(55:59):
just that I think it's it's lateral from what you had. Like,
I don't know that I felt like the James Franklin
experiment had to come to an end. But I also
feel like the next experiment shouldn't remind you of the
other one. And I'm not sure that there's anything significantly

(56:20):
better about Rule in twenty twenty five. I'm not saying
he's a bad football coach, but I see that name,
and I'm not exactly like bouncing off the walls like,
oh my goodness, what a grand slam higher this is.
I'm just kind of like, all right, I mean, yeah,
he's a pretty good football coach, that's all right, but
it's not like something that would just like make me

(56:41):
jump out of my seat if I were a Penn
State student or alumni.

Speaker 2 (56:44):
Yeah, it'll be really interesting, and we got to get
some NFL stuff, we gotta get to the saga all that,
you know, and we got to obviously maybe even talk
a little baseball. But I just bring it up because
I just think all of these jobs open, not a
lot of great candidates, and I just think it's going
to be interesting where do all of these schools go
over the next couple weeks and months. Penn State is open,

(57:08):
I think Florida might be opening as early as tomorrow. LSU,
he probably survives but again, if you can pay James
Franklin whatever. If LSU go seven to five this year,
we'll see LSU, by the way, still has A and
M at Alabama at Oklahoma, so a lot of interesting things.
By the way, Auburn zero to four in the sec

Sunday is, of course, Game six of the ALCS, just
a day after the Dodgers clinched a spot in the

(58:33):
World Series four nothing sweep over the Milwaukee Brewers. Nice
little three home run, seven innings pitch performance from show
Heyo Tani. Unbelievable. Was it six or seven? I can't
remember to say. You could get me caught up here,
but the point I'm trying to make it was six plus,
according to the Sager unbelievable week of baseball. Speaking of

(59:21):
We will finally get to the NFL in just a
few moments, but before we do, let's get it over
the news desk to Sega twelve twenty seven, Eastern what
is trending my fro.

Speaker 7 (59:29):
Lont of college football to get to and what you
reference was one of the great individual sports performances. Yeah,
we will ever see.

Speaker 2 (59:35):
I think I said one of the great postseason performances
in our one. That's a little bit of an understatement,
just that great sporting performances.

Speaker 3 (59:42):
Ever.

Speaker 7 (59:43):
Somebody pointed out he may have the greatest postseason and
the greatest regular season baseball performances ever individual because the
day he hit fifty to fifty for his season at
the end of last year, he had a September game
at Miami. In the game, he had his fiftieth homer
of the year. Same game he had his fiftieth steal
of the year. He finished with three homers in that

(01:00:03):
game and two steals and went six for six with
ten RBIs.

Speaker 3 (01:00:07):
Oh my god, to say was it there? I think
his final year with.

Speaker 2 (01:00:11):
The Angels, there was one game where there was a
doubleheader in Detroit. I don't remember exactly what he did,
but he had like nine and incomplete game in one game,
and then like three home runs in another game.

Speaker 3 (01:00:24):
I can't remember all of the details.

Speaker 7 (01:00:26):
But shut out in two homers.

Speaker 3 (01:00:28):
That says all I say really quick because you have
to get to the update.

Speaker 2 (01:00:31):
Listening to the other great players on the Dodgers talk
about him last night when other great players our speechless.
You know, we all saw the Freddie Freeman visual when
Otani hit the second home run out of the park
that to.

Speaker 7 (01:00:46):
Me over the roofshield that stadium has been around since
nineteen sixty two. Only two other players have hit it
over the roof in right field.

Speaker 4 (01:00:56):
All I'm going to say, if it's my birthday, watch
sports because something might happen.

Speaker 3 (01:01:01):
Is it your birthday today? It was yesterday, Happy birthday, buddy.

Speaker 4 (01:01:04):
Well either way, like this was the good side of
that whichever, if you're a Dodgers fan or just a
fan of something historic in sports.

Speaker 7 (01:01:11):
Yeah, it crossed the line just for sports.

Speaker 4 (01:01:13):
October seventeenth, nineteen eighty nine. You can look that one up.
That was the great San Francisco earthquake in the middle
of the whole series. Oh wow, So that's two things
that have happened on my birthday. Sports related that one,
I had just gotten a game Boy and I was
sitting in front of the TV when the earthquake hit.

Speaker 7 (01:01:29):
Both a little earth shaking as it were, Yeah, that
happened during the pregame show, and she recalled. The video
went out, and then you could just barely hear Al
Michael saying, I think we're having an earthquake, and then
they went off.

Speaker 3 (01:01:40):
Here by the way to Sega, I found it.

Speaker 2 (01:01:42):
July twenty seventh, twenty twenty three doubleheader, Otani polished off
a one hit shutout of the Tigers, then continued his
extraordinary day in the second game of Thursday's doubleheader, hitting
two home runs to increase his major league leading total
to thirty eight before leaving the game with cramps. And
that's like the seventh best day that he's had on
a baseball diamond as a major.

Speaker 7 (01:02:02):
League For last night's show, I looked up like Babe
Ruth before he became a Yankee, was a pitcher, and
a good one for the Boston Red Sox. He had
three starts in his World Series career, won all three.
Never hit a home run in those three games. As
awesome as the pitching was, to do both in one
what we saw last night has never happened with anybody ever.
You were talking about losses with some of these college

(01:02:25):
football programs literally just tonight, ap Cent out a list
of the Power Conference teams who still have no victories
against Power Conference opponents so far this year, Penn State
being one coach was fired, Arkansas another coach was fired,
Oklahoma State coach was fired, North Carolina standing by Wisconsin,

(01:02:45):
Boston College still has not, Kentucky has not. Rutgers and
Purdue are also.

Speaker 4 (01:02:50):
On the list.

Speaker 3 (01:02:51):
BC took a SmackDown today. Yes, we will get to
that at.

Speaker 7 (01:02:54):
All moment for those who are unaware of who BC
may have been hosting. Stanford is hosting a Florida State
team that is trying to snap an eight game losing
streak in the Atlantic Coast Conference. It is now Stanford thirteen,
Florida State ten as they start the third quarter of play.
There are three late games. Oregon State at oh and

(01:03:15):
seven is hosting Lafayette and losing Lafayette thirteen ten in
the lead early in the third and on FS one
its final seconds of the third quarter. New Mexico holding
on twenty one nineteen over Nevada. As for some earlier games, well,
the day started on Fox TV with the Michigan game,
which was seven to seven third quarter against Washington. Michigan

(01:03:36):
wins at twenty four to seven. Northwestern shutout Purdue nineteen nothing.
Northwestern is three to one in the Big Ten, while
Penn State is ozho to four in conference. Penn State
gave up a late touchdown at Iowa. Tonight, Hawkeyes win
twenty five twenty four. Ucla at the Rose Bowl beat
Maryland on a late field goal twenty to seventeen. Last night,

(01:03:57):
Minnesota beat Nebraska, did not allow them touchdown. Tonight, it
was number four Texas A and M holding on forty
five forty two at Arkansas. Georgia beat Old Miss forty
three thirty five with an impressive fourth quarter. Vanderbilt over
LSU thirty one. Twenty four. Arizona State at home beat
Texas Tech rank seventh twenty six to twenty two. It

(01:04:19):
was Notre Dame over USC and the Rain Trojans with
three turnovers thirty four to twenty four. Irish the final
two hundred twenty eight yards rushing in a score for
Jeremiah Love. Sixteenth ranked Missouri won in double overtime at Auburn.
Texas needed overtime to win at Kentucky. Virginia edge Washington State,
UAB upset Memphis and BYU beat Utah twenty four to

(01:04:39):
twenty one tonight. Meanwhile, Yukon football is five and two
after the victory at Boston College thirty eight to twenty three.
Among the NHL games, Carolinas five and oh after winning
an overtime at Los Angeles four to three, Colorado four
to one over Boston and a reminder of the AL
Championship Series continues Sunday night on FS one. Seattle up

(01:05:00):
three games to two plays at Toronto. The World Series
starts Friday. Toronto is optimistic that DH George Springer can
play tomorrow, which is notable. It just when I heard
last night X rays were negative. That was the shock
because he got hit right on the kneecap. And in fact,
you know how they have the technology to say how
many miles per hour off the bat the hit was

(01:05:22):
that stat cast technology registered that ball off the kneecap
as if it was a ball off the bat. It
was an astoundingly amazing thing to watch him struggle for
two minutes as they paused the game, and he actually
thought he would continue and then limped off. And now
they're actually optimistic that Springer can play. We'll see back

(01:05:44):
to you.

Speaker 3 (01:05:45):
You know, George Springer. Is I mean he's you kind tough. Yeah,
he's from hard hitting New Britain.

Speaker 2 (01:05:49):
You think he's gonna a little exit vlo off his knee,
You know, one hundred and ten miles an hour is
going to keep him out of an ALCS game.

Speaker 3 (01:05:57):
Think again.

Speaker 2 (01:05:57):

Speaker 3 (01:06:26):
J mart We've been not bogged down.

Speaker 2 (01:06:28):
Bog down makes sound negative, but we've had a lot
of college football today. We'll certainly get to plenty of NFL,
you know, in our three. But there is a story
I think you know. As we batted around conversations leading
up to the show today, I'll say this like I
I think the Chiefs to me have become one of

(01:06:51):
the more interesting stories in the National Football League, sitting
right now at three and three. Overall, just this weird
team right now where every time you feel like, okay,
they have a little momentum, lose to the Jags, then
you're ready to give up on them.

Speaker 3 (01:07:05):
Take care of the Lions.

Speaker 2 (01:07:06):
On Sunday Night Football, Dan Campbell basically said, we got
outclassed in every way that a team can be. I'm
just gonna give you the floor. I just find them fascinating.
It is worth noting by the way, they're playing the
Raiders at home here in week seven on Sunday, So
it's not as though that doesn't strike me as a
game that they should or will lose. But maybe they
will given the circumstances of this season. But just want

(01:07:27):
to take a minute on them, because the AFC increasingly
is looking more and more wide open. The Ravens are
obviously not very good, the Chargers are banged up, the
Bills have lost two straight, and all of a sudden,
here the Kansas City Chiefs three and three, with some
really good wins, but of course some really questionable performances
as well.

Speaker 4 (01:07:47):
I mean, that's what it is. I mean we have
flipped a couple of times during the course of this
season on the Kansas City Chiefs, and at some point
after that game against Detroit, I think I sent a
text to you and Ian and basically said done trying
to decide what the Chiefs are. Yep, I've seen this
on both sides. And I saw the commentary after the game.
They're the best team in the league again. They've done

(01:08:09):
it again, They've reformed it, They've reformed Voltron and all
this other kind of stuff that gets said, and it's
just like, I'm not there yet. I think they show
up in proud time. I think they win big games.
I also think they can get beat by a lot
of teams. I don't know that Rashi Rice is going
to be just the giant difference maker, or maybe he
is going to be maybe they are going to be
the best team in the league. I don't think that

(01:08:30):
their lows can be completely eliminated because of the highs.
I think they both have to exist. We don't live
in a this is not a schedule in a vacuum.
All of it counts. We read the entire book. We
don't just read the chapters we like, So I am
not going to say they are not good. I'm also
not going to say they are elite. I'm just not

(01:08:52):
go This is the worst sports opinion you can have,
but I think it's the only one that you can
have about the Chiefs. I just don't think you can
pre suppose anything about them right now. They could win
the Super Bowl, they could miss the playoffs. They probably
won't not in this AFC, the way everything is stacked
up and you laid it out perfectly. I'm just I'm
not going to make a judgment on the Kansas City
Chiefs from week to week going forward. It's exhausting. There

(01:09:16):
are games that they are gonna win, there are games
that mahomes Is gonna really show out in, and there's
gonna be other moments where they're not firing on all
cylinders and they can be beat. I think any given week,
the Chiefs can show up and kind of lay a dud,
or they can show up and they can absolutely annihilate
Baltimore or destroy Detroit on national television. The highs and

(01:09:38):
the lows both exist with this team, and so I'm
just gonna watch them play and we'll see how it
shakes out in the end. I just don't think that
any kind of judgment on the Chiefs. I just don't
think at this point it's particularly educated.

Speaker 3 (01:09:51):
Yeah, it'll be interesting.

Speaker 2 (01:09:53):
You know, they play the Raiders again at home on Sunday,
then they have Washington at home on Monday Night Football,
then they play Buffalo the following Sunday in Buffalo before
they have a bye, and I'll just be curious, do
they get some momentum do they not get some momentum.
We know Buffalo has obviously had success against them in
the regular season, not so much in the postseason. And

(01:10:16):
I guess I'll just bring it up because I think
it's interesting in that in some ways, I think some
of these losses aren't the worst thing. And it's gonna
sound weird for me to say, but I think last
year they got so used to kind of figuring out
ways to win games that when they actually got punched
in the mouth in the Super Bowl, and you could
sit there and say, well, they made it all the
way to the super Bowl, but they just didn't really

(01:10:37):
have an answer, and maybe Philly was that good.

Speaker 3 (01:10:39):
Whatever. I don't think it's the worst thing to.

Speaker 2 (01:10:41):
Lose games and for Andy Reid to be able to
go in and say, listen, you're not unbeatable. But that
only works. You can only take losses and use them
as a positive if you eventually get hot and go
on a win streak. And so that's where it becomes
interesting to me. And again, I just think with the
way that they're playing and the way the schedule shakes out,

(01:11:03):
you don't really see a spot where if they're not
playing good football, that they're just gonna rip off four
five in a row. Like I said, after Sunday against
Las Vegas, they have at Washington or Washington home, excuse me,
and then at Buffalo. Out of thereby they have at Denver,
and then the Indianapolis Colts at home, which is obviously
all of a sudden an interesting game. And then obviously

(01:11:24):
on the back half they'll have the Chargers and the
Broncos once more a piece. So I'm with you in
that I'm not gonna make any sweeping judgments. I do
think you can use some bad performances to build for
the back half of the year, but again, you actually
have to turn negative performances into consistent positivity and that's
something that we really haven't seen much this year.

Speaker 4 (01:11:47):
Yeah. Again, like I just I think that the EBB
and flow, the check on hide, whatever it is. Like,
it's just from week to week you're not sure what
you've seen is gonna show up. And yes, them getting
healthy and getting Xavier Worthy back, and now they're gonna
Getrashi Rice back. Maybe they're gonna make a couple moves
before the deadline. Kelsey seems to be pulling in a

(01:12:08):
little bit better. In the last few weeks. Offensive line
started to gel a bit better. Like, there's some signs,
but I don't think there's anything overwhelming. You don't watch
this Chiefs team and think this team's going you know,
fourteen to three or something like that. You just don't.
But if they end up winning the Super Bowl, no
surprise there. When you look at the rest of the league,
you can find flaws almost anywhere. And some of the

(01:12:29):
teams that you came into the season feeling really good
about right now there's definitely some question marks about those teams,
So they're gonna be in the mix. I just don't
think that any kind of like blanket judgment as to
what the Chiefs are. I just I don't think that's
a question we can answer right now, which which is
great about sports and is great about this Chiefs team

(01:12:50):
from week to week. We can evaluate it based on that.
I'm just not going to draw any conclusions anymore, not
regarding them because I've been wrong too much lately.

Speaker 3 (01:13:00):
A minute before we got to get back to the saga.

Speaker 2 (01:13:02):
Any sweeping takeaways from the Bills, who have now lost
two straight, including the Monday night game against Atlanta last week.

Speaker 4 (01:13:09):
It's a long season. I mean, Atlanta's got a really
solid defense all of a sudden, Like that battle with
them in Tampa is really interesting in the South, Like
that's gonna be fun to watch for the rest of
this season. Both those teams are pretty well coached. I
certainly like Tampa better, but Atlanta's no slouch. The Drake
May thing that was a perfect storm. Vrabel loves playing

(01:13:30):
the Bills, and he's dominated him his entire career. He
did that in Tennessee even when Buffalo was favored in
all those games with Josh Allen, they would show up
and get punked on Monday Night football, Like it happened
multiple times, so I wasn't really surprised and Drake May
is a really solid player and continues to get better.
And it seems like the culture has already shifted in
a familiar way. For those of us in Nashville, watching

(01:13:52):
what's happening in New England is not a particular surprise.
I'm not out on the Bills. I just I think
that anybody on any Sunday in the playoffs is probably
gonna be able to win. That's why home Field's gonna
play so much. This game with Buffalo and Kansas City
in a couple of weeks is gonna be huge. But yeah,
I'm not like, I don't think the Bills are on

(01:14:12):
desk door or anything like that. And I'm not all
of a sudden worried about Josh Allen. I've seen some
of that, and I just think that's that's a product
of I need to have a take every day for
my radio show, and since we don't, since we can
kind of wait and just say it once a week,
I think we can we can afford to be a
little bit more nuanced.

Speaker 2 (01:14:29):
How about this Buffalo Bills on the road Sunday against
Carolina Carolina three and zero at home this year, Just
we go doubt'll baby Rico Doubtle, Carolina Panthers and the
Buffalo Bills, one of many games in Week seven of
the NFL. Well come back when we do. We got
to get back to Sega. He'll get you caught up

(01:14:51):
on everything you missed on just an insane October Saturday.
In sports, it's that time you hear college football, NF
news and notes, Major League Baseball. Disager joins us next.
Fox Sports Radio, Welcome back, everybody. Fox Sports Radio ertors

(01:15:11):
Jason Martin broadcasting live from Fox Sports Radio Studios. Great
Jam by the way, great Jam, No house is great,
Steve Disager, Disager. So much happened on a busy Saturday.
Nand Sports. You tell us everything we missed a lot.

Speaker 7 (01:15:27):
To get to, including acc football in a moment, but quick.
The NFL notes the young star wide receiver of the
Bucks and Mecca Buka listed as questionable with his bad hamstring.
Veteran wide receiver Mike Evans has had a strain hamstring
but could return to play Monday. The Chargers activated linebackers
Khalil Mack and Denzel Perriman before they host the Colts Sunday.

(01:15:47):
Arizona quarterback Kyler Murray likely out this weekend with a
foot injury. Green Bay running back Josh Jacobs a game
time decision, and Washington wide receiver Deebo Samuel is out
with a Bruce heal already for the Commanders to wide
receivers are out again Terry McLaurin and Noah Brown Well.
In the ACC, this is one of the late games
Florida State is losing. They're winless in the ACC this year.

(01:16:09):
At oh to three. They're losing at Stanford thirteen to
ten mid third quarter. Already, Miami lost last night, Clemson
lost today. Since two thousand and six, almost back twenty years,
there's only been one other week since Miami and Clemson
and Florida State all lost conference games on the same weekend.

(01:16:31):
That's what we are staring at right now, and of
course Miami's only been in that conference for about twenty years.
As for the three late games, yes, Stanford's winning and
Oregon State at oh to seven has taken the lead
twenty four to thirteen on Lafayette late third and on
FS one we've got nine minutes to go at New
Mexico Lobos holding on twenty four to twenty two over
Nevada As for the other conferences we had. In the ACC,

(01:16:55):
Clemson without its starting quarterback and losing at home do
SMU thirty five twenty four, SMU three and oh in
the ACC, Pitt one at Syracuse, number two, Miami lost
at home last night to Louisville, and yes, North Carolina
lost again closer but lost at Cal last night. Miami
Ohio is three and oh in the MAC Conference after

(01:17:15):
beating Eastern Michigan today, and Buffalo is three and oh
in that conference after a very close win at UMass
Massachusetts football oh and seven. Now, by the way, another
loss for the Arizona Wildcats of one Arney Spanner. Usually
we talk about Arizona basketball. In Arizona football. They are
one and three in the Big Twelve Conference. Lost on

(01:17:37):
a forty one yard field goal as time expired at
Houston Cougars thirty one twenty eight And I don't know
if you saw the TCU home game. There were two
lightning delays in the fourth quarter, total of about two
hours worth. They finally finished TCU winning at home against
Baylor forty two to thirty six, and West Virginia's oh
to four in the Big Twelve Conference after losing forty

(01:17:58):
five thirteen at UCF Tulane with two late touchdowns. Pete's
Army twenty four to seventeen to go to six and
one this year, three and oh in the American Also
around the college football world, Air Force had been zero
to four in the Mountain West, but got a home
win against Wyoming. UNLV had been six and o this

(01:18:18):
year for coach Dan Mullen, but lost at Boise State
fifty six to thirty one. No late game in Hawaii
tonight because they were on the road winning at Colorado
State today. Florida got a home win twenty three to
twenty one against Mississippi State James Madison six and one,
four to oh and the Sunbelt after a sixty three
twenty seven victory against Old Dominion. By the way, the

(01:18:40):
late NHL game is done in Vegas, Golden Knights six
to one over the Flames, and we do have on
FS one Tomorrow night, ALCS could conclude Seattle up three
games to two playing at Toronto. The World Series starts Friday.
The Seattle Mariners are the only ball club out there
that have never been to the World Series. This could

(01:19:01):
happen tomorrow night. We shall see they won the first
two on the road. For those who didn't see it
in the rain. At Notre Dame, we did have the
Irish hosting rival USC, with each ranked in the top
twenty three turnovers for USC and it was thirty four
to twenty four Irish. The finalist Jeremiah Love had twenty
four carries two hundred twenty eight yards rushing in a touchdown.

(01:19:23):
The Irish trailed briefly late third quarter and then sc
kicks off and Notre Dame runs it back one hundred
yards for a score. Sixteenth ranked Missouri with the double
overtime win late tonight at Auburn twenty three seventeen, so
the Auburn Tigers are zero to four in conference and
in this game, Auburn on field goal attempts one for four,
Miszoo five sacks. Next Saturday, Missouri's at Vanderbilt. Seventeenth ranked

(01:19:47):
Vandy won at home against number ten LSU thirty one
twenty four LSUS two and two in the SEC. The
Tigers had defeated Vanderbilt ten straight times, but Vandy this
season six and one for the first time since nineteen fifty.
Quarterback Diego Pavia with three total touchdowns Alabama over Tennessee
thirty seven to twenty. Tonight, Bama at the end of

(01:20:08):
the first half with a ninety nine yard pick six
to change the game. Georgia with a strong fourth quarter
beat Old Miss forty three thirty five.

Speaker 3 (01:20:17):
Talked about Bama to lead the show.

Speaker 2 (01:20:18):
Best team in college football potentially, just saw this stat
first team in SEC history to win four straight games
against ranked opponents without a bye week at some point
in that stretch. Unbelievable run for Alabama. And guess what
unbelievable two hour run for us? We got one hour left,
a lot of college football Week seven NFL preview, maybe
even a little baseball air Torris Jason Martin take you

(01:20:40):
till two am Eastern Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (01:20:44):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 2 (01:20:47):
Welcome in everybody, our three tours and Martin, Fox Sports Radio.
We are broadcasting live. Yes, we are live at one
am Eastern from the Fox Sports Radio studios. We're taking
you up till two am Eastern. Bernie Freddo of The
Bernie Fratto Show follows us. Bernie Fratto cannot wait to
hear what that man has to say about a busy

(01:21:09):
day in college football. A busy Week seven in the NFL,
and we still got an hour to discuss at all.
Jamar let's rip through some of the biggest stories in
college football. Kind of put a bow on what is
always just you know, these saturdays they go by fast.
But man o, man, it is such a fun time
of the year. We just have so much going on.
We'll be coming on next week game two of the

(01:21:31):
World Series on top of full college football slate, full
NFL preview, all that, So it's a fun time of year.

Speaker 4 (01:21:39):
By the way, it's amazing. I gotta say that, it
is amazing how often they show Andrew Luck on the
lines of a Stanford game. Like I get it. I
mean yeah, I like seeing Andrew Luck too. It reminds
you of good old days and stuff. But like, he's
not the coach, but they are showing him way more
than they show Frank Wright. It's kind of amazing to me.

(01:22:01):
You usually don't see a general manager of a college
football program almost at all, but Andrew Luck is being
shown more than like Matthew McConaughey during text games ten
years ago.

Speaker 2 (01:22:13):
I noticed this. They played BYU. I want to say,
in week two or week three, it was one of
these late night games. I think it was like the
last game on kind of like this one, and it
is every thirty seconds, Like we get it. He's the GM,
one of the greatest players in program history.

Speaker 4 (01:22:29):
You know, good dude, But like he's not part of this, right,
Like is he call and plays and we don't know it?

Speaker 3 (01:22:37):
I mean it might be. I don't know. I don't
think he is.

Speaker 2 (01:22:39):
But uh and Jerry Neuheisel, mister viral, Jerry new Heisel,
that man is more viral than I don't even know
what's going viral these days. But another locker room celebration
from Jerry Neuheisel. Ucla beats Maryland, improves to three, and
you won't know how quickly things have changed in the
world of college football, j mart. Next week's big noon game,

(01:23:02):
Ucla at Indiana. So the two hottest teams in the
Big Ten except for the number one team in the country,
I guess. But Ucla all of a sudden three and four,
Like listen, I know, if they don't lose to like
New Mexico and all that, they you know that head
coach doesn't get fired. But I remember having the conversation

(01:23:24):
with you of like is O to twelve in play. Now,
you know, you look at the back half of the schedule,
pretty much every one of their final five teams is
sort of ranked. Because Nebraska and USC were ranked coming
into today, they probably will not be coming out of
this week. But ucla hottest team in college football traveling
to Indiana. Indiana, by the way, improved to seven to zero.

(01:23:47):
Just a little ho hum, twenty five point win for
Kurt Signetti and the boys.

Speaker 3 (01:23:50):
By the way, we didn't talk about it.

Speaker 2 (01:23:52):
I don't know that it's a lead, you know topic,
but let's just discuss for I have a second. The
Kurt Signetti ninety three million dollar extension eleven million a
year makes him the third highest paid coach in college football.
There was some angst on social media about it. Did
you did you have?

Speaker 3 (01:24:10):
I don't know what. I'll just leave it up to you.
What was your take on that?

Speaker 4 (01:24:12):
That story? All right? Well, I've just said see the
social media stuff because it's not part of my university anymore.
But like I saw some pretty big names in our
industry come down on that and talk about the ads
and be fired. But then five years and this is
a dumb move and he hasn't won anything and all
this other kind of stuff. Can I just say it's Indiana,

(01:24:33):
but it's Indiana, And if you can't pay this guy,
then why are you even trying? Yep? Like, yes, the
timing was good, And I think Dan Patrick said this,
I think I heard it during one of our commercial
breaks as a matter of fact, earlier, that the timing
was great. With James Franklin losing those games and getting fired,
that job had to scare Indiana. So they go ahead
and make the extension happen right now. But whether they

(01:24:55):
made it happen now or whether they made it happen later,
kurtse Signetti is legit, Kurt, Like, what is Indiana football
before he got there? Nothing? Basically, I mean the only
thing you remember is like Michael Pennix, Yeah, for a
year and like a receiver a handful of years ago
that was decently came out of there and stuff like that.

(01:25:16):
But like they're a legit like power at this point.
And here's the other thing, And I didn't see this
mentioned amongst all of this. Indiana has a boatload of cash.

Speaker 1 (01:25:27):
They do.

Speaker 4 (01:25:27):
They have a ton of money. So you've got a
sixty four year old guy who does seem to be
happy there that you just want to tell them, hey, man,
continue to be happy here. We really like you, like
that you can you can make your entire career here.
We believe in you. And if he's happy in all this,
like sure he's gonna leverage it. I'm sure or he

(01:25:47):
did or who knows. But like when I saw this,
I mean we said, good for Kurt Signetti and good
for Indiana because if they're they're a program that's never
mattered in this sport, and now they do, and they
have a coach in house that they want to retain,
that they believe in, that the kids seem to love
playing for and all this. And immediately when he gets this,

(01:26:10):
after everybody talks about him being a good coach, as
soon as he gets some money, it's just like, oh,
he's overpaid, he's overrated. He's never done anything beat an
Oregon tea. It's only when he's ever had this, like
why do we have to do this? Like I didn't
have a hot take on this because I immediately thought,
now that makes sense, Like I didn't see this like
you know, the ninety million dollar buyouts or anything else.
I was just I mean, they're number three in the

(01:26:31):
country right now. You could try to argue that he's
not in the class of this coach or that coach
or whatever. I just think you're wrong. I think that
at this point, if you can do that at Indiana,
it's not like he's not going to be able to
do it again next year. I heard the argument that
it wasn't sustainable, Like what he's doing in Indiana is
not sustainable. I think fineballm even said that. I like Paul,

(01:26:53):
but I just think that takes what is that based
on just because Indiana hasn't done it before. I mean
like before Mark Few got to Gonzaga, Gonzaga winning was
not sustainable, but he got there and they became sustainable.
Like you look at all of these kinds of things.
Before a great coach gets somewhere, they're you know, you
have to start somewhere and it's probably never gonna be

(01:27:15):
better than this, and so they want to retain the guy,
and more power to them. I'm happy for him. I'm
glad that they made that choice, and I don't think
it's gonna get the ad fired. I think the entire
fan base was psyched about that, and I don't think
any of them cared about the money that went into it.

Speaker 3 (01:27:28):
So a couple of things.

Speaker 2 (01:27:29):
One we talked about earlier the idea of these crazy
coaching buyouts. And yes, I think if you're LSU, you
don't need to give a coach a one hundred percent,
fully guaranteed buyout. If you're USC, if you're Clemson, if
your Penn State, you probably don't.

Speaker 4 (01:27:46):
And you don't need the extensions to keep people. You
don't need to do that. We're gonna go ahead and
extend this guy even though he hasn't done all that much,
because we're afraid he's gonna take another job. Like I
agree with the call your Bluffalus philosophy, but not with
Kurt Signetti.

Speaker 3 (01:27:59):
Thank you.

Speaker 4 (01:28:00):
It's different.

Speaker 2 (01:28:01):
It's different, and it's Indiana. It's Indiana, Okay, So I
looked it up yesterday.

Speaker 3 (01:28:07):
Indiana.

Speaker 2 (01:28:08):
Prior to kurtz Signetti arriving last year, they had never
won ten games in a season. Prior to last year,
they had one eight win season in the previous thirty years.
This is at LSU, this isn't Georgia whatever, and so
these takes are preposterous. And then here's the other thing. So,

(01:28:30):
first of all, two things. One, what if it isn't sustainable?
What if it isn't this? What if it isn't that.
First of all, kurtz Signetti fifteen years as a head
coach at multiple different levels, has never had a losing season.
So I'm not saying it's gonna be as good as
it is this year, but it's not going to be
three and nine two years from now or listen, you

(01:28:53):
never know. But there's no real there's literally fifteen years
of data that that will not happen.

Speaker 3 (01:28:59):
Here's the other thing.

Speaker 2 (01:29:00):
Two is on top of that, people were like, well,
I mean, what if they take a step back.

Speaker 3 (01:29:04):
Yeah, what if they take a step back. They're Indiana.

Speaker 2 (01:29:07):
I was telling somebody this today. If they're seven and five,
they're seven to zero right now. Let's say they lose
five straight games to finish seven and five. Let's say
they go six and six next year, and six and
sixty year after and six and sixty year after that.
Guess what, that's the best five year run in the
history of Indiana football. And you know, I mean, at

(01:29:28):
that point you could argue, is he worth you know,
eleven million dollars? The point is we're talking about Indiana.
It is just such a dumb argument. I could not believe.
Like smart people, listen, I try not to criticize other media,
especially on these airwaves, you know, try to be respectful
of Fox Sports, the brand. I don't really care what
Paul find Mom has say. He just says stuff to
create headlines. But like smart people like David Pollock, who

(01:29:52):
I think is very smart, was like, you can't leave.

Speaker 3 (01:29:54):
You can't give that much guaranteed money. What are you,
David Pollack? This is in Georgia. I know you live
in Georgia. I know you played at Georgia. This is
not Georgia.

Speaker 2 (01:30:04):
This is not again LSU, USC Clemson, all of these schools.

Speaker 3 (01:30:08):
And guess what. And I was thinking about this too
really quick.

Speaker 2 (01:30:10):
And I didn't even mean to make this segment of
kurtz Signetti contract segment. But it's like, I really do
wonder how bad and how long, how bad it would
have to get and for how long before Indiana fans
turned on Kurtzignetti to the point that they didn't want
him anymore. Like it's like the contract runs till twenty
twenty three or twenty thirty three. Excuse me, Like, I

(01:30:33):
just I don't know. I just if you have anything
else to add, I want to get to a couple
other college football things before we switch gears to the
NFL for the rest of the show. Is there anything
else on Signetti or do you want to move on?
I just thought the takes were so asinine this week.
I couldn't believe some of.

Speaker 4 (01:30:47):
Them too perfectly. It's just kind of like, is he
a good coach? Yes? Was Indiana in the College Football Playoff? Yes?
Did anyone have that happening before it happened? No? Are
they going to be in it again this year? Yes?
Hey the man, it's Indiana. For crying out loud, Inda,
it's a completely unique It's just we're repeating ourselves at
this point so we can move on. But like, we

(01:31:09):
completely agree on this one, Like there is absolutely no
argument against paying this guy to coach that team at
this time.

Speaker 2 (01:31:19):
By the way, we did miss an important point. Guess
what if you don't pay him, or if you wait
till the end of the year, it just makes it
that much more possible that somebody does swoop in and
take him.

Speaker 4 (01:31:29):
Now.

Speaker 2 (01:31:30):
I think he wants to retire at Indiana. He's sixty
four years old. He finally made it to the Big Ten.
I don't think he wants to move. But if you
don't move, that just allows Penn State, if Florida opens
at some point, it just allows those schools to get
in the conversation. It's just it's so stupid. I could

(01:31:50):
not believe it. Let's move on. You know what else
is stupid? LSU not being good at football. And I'm sorry.
I know they're five and two. I know they came
into Saturday ranked in the top ten.

Speaker 3 (01:31:59):
They're not good. Their three best wins are over three
and four Clemson three and four, Florida three and four
South Carolina. They stink. They went eight and four last year.

Speaker 2 (01:32:07):
The year before, they basically needed a miracle, not a miracle,
just a historic season from Jaden Daniels, who we now
know is just another worldly quarterback. And even that year
they lost three games with Jayden Daniels. Bring it up,
Brian Kelly's not gonna work. He's another one of these
guys that have one of these huge buyouts. But you're
year four at LSU. Coach O won a national championship.

(01:32:31):
Less Miles won a national championship in year two, Nick
Saban early on in his career, we can do the
song and dance. I know LSU is five and two.
I know, if you don't follow college football on a
day to day basis, you may say we're overreacting. But
Texas A and M coming to town next week, seven
to zero at Alabama, after that at Oklahoma to end
the regular season. This team looks like a once again

(01:32:54):
an eight and four seven and five type team, and
even in a twelve team playoff era.

Speaker 3 (01:32:59):
That's not unacceptable at LSU.

Speaker 4 (01:33:01):
Yes, that's right, it's not. And I do not see
a universe where he's there next year. Again. He's a
good coach, but I mean you've mentioned it before, like
doesn't come off great in those like in the Netflix
specials and all those other kinds of stuff like that.
But more than anything, the cultural fit was weird, and
the only way it was gonna work is if they

(01:33:21):
won a whole lot of games, and they just haven't they.
I do not think that this has been a successful
tenure for him in any way. I don't think any
LSU fan would have signed up for this if they
were told what the records were going to be. Year
after year. You come into the year. I think they've
been overrated just about every year going in, and then
I think it gets doubly tough for him when nuss

(01:33:42):
Meyer got all of this NFL hype before the year
and you come out and right now they're very average
and they get beat by Vanderbilt, who look, Vanderbilt is
a legit. But I still think LSU fans look at
that and say, Vanderbilt, no, no, we can't have this.
It's not Northwestern. I'm not suggesting that or you see
or anything to that degree. It's not because that's completely

(01:34:03):
disrespectful to a really good program that Clark Lee has
built at Vanderbilt. But LSU can't lose to Vanderbilt when
they're not doing anything else that really impresses their fan base,
Like you can get away with this if you've won
a bunch of other games and all this other kind
of stuff. But this just adds more fuel to the fire,
it adds more kindling. And I just feel like Brian

(01:34:25):
Kelly is not going to survive this past this year.

Speaker 2 (01:34:29):
We'll see what happens. Brian Kelly well into his sixties.
I mean, he could just retire at this point. I
was gonna say, you know who should retire, but I
won't go there. Texas does get to win thirteen to
ten in overtime at Kentucky. Listen, we set it to
lead the show. Two things can be true. It was

(01:34:51):
sixteen thirteen. I think I said thirteen ten, sixteen to thirteen.
Texas has a lot of problems right now. They win
the game in a game in which Kentucky Kentucky head
over two hundred yards more of total offense than they did.
Questionable play calling, to say the least, in overtime for
Kentucky cost them a shot to put three points on

(01:35:12):
the board. At minimum. Texas wins with a walk off
field goal arch Manning in this game twelve of twenty
seven one hundred and thirty two yards passing. I know
Texas has other issues. I think they have a conundrum though,
because they'll get the O line fixed. The defense has
been very good outside of about a half against Florida.

(01:35:34):
I don't know that they can go into twenty twenty five,
twenty twenty six, excuse me, listen, five games left.

Speaker 3 (01:35:40):
We'll see what happens, but they're gonna lose some more games.

Speaker 2 (01:35:43):
I don't know that they can go into twenty twenty
six with this guy as their quarterback. He's simply not
good enough, and he struggles again as Texas survives.

Speaker 4 (01:35:52):
Yes, and this is I can't wait to hear how
this has talked about this week, because you know, he
played pretty well against Oklahoma. The talk then was just
like Materials shouldn't have come back, and that game was
sort of it was just kind of a bad reflection
on Oklahoma. And then material only had one hundred and
fifty yards last night as well. But then Arch comes

(01:36:15):
out against the Kentucky team that was winless in SEC play,
whose coach it seems like Lexington can't wait to get
rid of. Just seems like kind of a lame duck
year for Kentucky as a whole, and they almost lose
that game, and they do so on a night where
Arch Manning goes twelve of twenty seven for less than

(01:36:37):
one hundred and fifty yards and rushes for negative one
and he was only sacked three times. How many yards
do he lose on every sack? Thirty? Like he's a
guy that's supposed to be able to run the ball
on top of all that couldn't do it. So the
old line clearly had a rough night, no doubt, and
they have much of the year. But Arch's stat line

(01:36:58):
is going to be the talk of the town, whether
it's completely fair or not, no doubt, Arts deserves a
lot of the critique. He deserves a lot of the criticism.
But that team as a whole has just been bad.
They've they have been poor relative to what was expected,
like what happened at Penn State. Notwithstanding Texas and Penn
State where the two betting favorites entering the season, one

(01:37:19):
of them has lost their coach the second one. I mean,
Sarkis is not going to lose his job, but he
hasn't done a great job this year. His staff has
had a rough go, and his quarterback right now doesn't
look ready for prime time. And this stat line, again,
you look at this stat line and you don't know
anything else. You're just kind of like, why was this
guy ever touted in the first place, because he's just

(01:37:40):
more often than not, he's been mediocre to subpar, and
with the hype, it's just made that much worse.

Speaker 3 (01:37:46):
I was thinking about this with the more so with
the Auburn game.

Speaker 2 (01:37:49):
Auburn lost to fall to to four against oh and
four in the SEC losing to Missouri. But I was
thinking about this is I think in the NFL, we
all understand that you can have a lot of other
great pieces in place. If you don't have the right quarterback,
none of that matters. I think it's starting to become
true in college foot well, you don't need to be
great at quarterback. But even like like Ohio State, like

(01:38:10):
Julians say and say whatever you want, he doesn't make mistakes.

Speaker 3 (01:38:13):
He just I got a bunch of dudes around me.
I'm not gonna lose the game. Whatever.

Speaker 2 (01:38:17):
But I just think in this sport, I don't know
if you can win, like if you don't have the
right quarterback.

Speaker 3 (01:38:23):
And I think Texas is kind of there.

Speaker 4 (01:38:25):
I know.

Speaker 2 (01:38:25):
Again we talked about LSU being five and two. Texas
is five and two. I get that, But the counter
to that is, again, you look at the schedule, you
look at the games that are remaining, You look at
the fact that Vandy will be playing them as a
top fifteen, top twenty team. Texas A and M of
course is very good this year. I just again, they're
five and two. They should have lost on Saturday night

(01:38:47):
at Kentucky, and if you can lose at Kentucky, you
can lose any game left on the schedule. Oh, by
the way, they have at Georgia. My bad forgot about me.

Speaker 4 (01:38:54):
Let me ask a question. What do you got? What
is Texas's record of Quinnywards as a quarterback? Ah?

Speaker 3 (01:39:02):
So they're five and two right now.

Speaker 2 (01:39:04):
I mean, listen, they could be seven and zero because
like that Ohio State game was there for the winning,
Like it's easy to forget this now. They outgained Ohio.
Ohio State was not like moving the ball at will.
It was just that Arch could do absolutely nothing against
until the fourth quarter exactly. So I mean I think

(01:39:24):
six and one. Maybe they beat Ohio State, maybe they
beat Florida. I don't know. Maybe maybe it is five
and two. But even if it was five and two,
I think there'd be more hope going into the back
half of the season because I just I don't you know,
we talked about it earlier with LSU being five and two.
I just don't know. I mean, what are we talking
about here? Vandy, Texas and m are both at home.

Speaker 3 (01:39:45):
I get it.

Speaker 2 (01:39:46):
At Georgia at Mississippi State, I mean, I don't know.
I just think there's has to be two losses left
on this schedule, if not more, and that's obviously a
disappointing team for a disappointing overall record, for a team
that started number one in the country.

Speaker 4 (01:39:58):
Jammer, I just think it's amazing how it sch shifted, right.
I think it's amazing how it's changed. Last year it
was why isn't Sark playing Arch? We already know what
quinn yours is? And now it's Texas fans saying, Man,
we said, we're sorry, brother, will you come back? It's
crazy how fast that changed. And really, what's I think

(01:40:18):
most interesting about the Arch discussion is a lot of
us that were suggesting that last year who have already
kind of realized, yeah, you know what Sark would have
put him in if he was the best quarterback. We
weren't basing it on firsthand knowledge of having watched Arch
Manning play. We were basing it on what we were
told about what he was supposed to be. And that

(01:40:39):
again is going to be the flaw in the Nil
era is a whole lot of people getting paid based
on what they're supposed to be rather than what they've done.
And now you're seeing the stories that NIL is going
to potentially there's lawsuits to try and get it for
high school athletes as well. It's going to get worse
and worse and worse and worse. We're not paying based
on production, we're based we're paying based on potential, and

(01:41:02):
that's a that's a real dangerous game.

Speaker 2 (01:41:04):
Yeah, And I mean, you know, it's not apples to apples.
And we'll come back and we'll talk some NFL, but
you know, we're seeing it where Michigan, whether Bryce Young's
Bryce Young, Bryce Underwood is the guy or not. Like you,
you're paying him a lot of money, you have to
play him. Dylan Ryol at Nebraska and Arch Manning isn't
the best example because he's obviously in his third year,
but a little bit of.

Speaker 3 (01:41:24):
A mess at the University of Texas.

Speaker 2 (01:41:25):
Fox Sports Radio AERATORUS Jason Martin broadcasting live from the
Fox Sports Radio Studios.

Speaker 3 (01:41:30):
We will come back.

Speaker 2 (01:41:31):
When we do, we will finally switch gears for a
good Week seven of the NFL Box Lions, Eagles, Vikings,
a lot of intriguing games here on the Week seven slate.
We'll discuss all that next Fox Sports thirty. Welcome back, everybody.

Speaker 4 (01:41:47):
That's a Belichick song, could be a.

Speaker 2 (01:41:50):
Belichick song, could be a Brian Kelly song, could be
a Billy Napier's song.

Speaker 3 (01:41:55):
A lot of songs could be a Brian Callahan song.

Speaker 4 (01:41:59):
A little look, man, I called that one he did.
I don't even want to take credit for it, but
let's just say what happened in week one. That's probably
when it was a wrap for him. I don't know
if you know about that, but the non decision call
on a challenge where the receiver lands with his elbow
in bounds and it's called incomplete that he's out of

(01:42:22):
bounds and it would have been a first down, and
Brian Callahan doesn't challenge it. And in the post game
he says he was asked why he didn't challenge it,
because of course he was. He was turning point in
the game. They ended up having to punt right after it,
and Callahan said, well, I mean, it's not like an
elbow equals two feet.

Speaker 3 (01:42:43):
But here's exactly the way the thing sports.

Speaker 4 (01:42:44):
Spoiler alert to all those out there unfamiliar, it actually
does so like he basically revealed that the reason he
did not challenge that is because he didn't know the rules,
but he did it in a way in which he
revealed he didn't know the rule by actual reciting the
rule incorrectly in the postgame presser.

Speaker 3 (01:43:03):
That is pretty wild. I actually had not heard.

Speaker 4 (01:43:05):
That, So not a great look. Let's just say that,
not a great look.

Speaker 2 (01:43:10):
You hit the road, Jack, Brian Callahan. Titans looking for
a new head coach, say this, man.

Speaker 4 (01:43:16):
They need a lot more than that.

Speaker 2 (01:43:17):
Well they do, they got. I heard Martin and Monzi
talking about this before. I wouldn't sell any I cam
Ward Stock. I just think he needs competence around him.
But good news is a nice high draft pick, hopefully
a new head coach that maybe knows what he's doing. So, yeah,
tell you what, Mary, why don't you go ahead give
us a little NFL music, Little football music, put us

(01:43:39):
in the mood. Let's talk a little Week seven of
the NFL. There's a lot of games here over the
next couple of days. I think the biggest one though,
probably Monday Night. Ian You you take us wherever you
want to take us, all right? Yeah, Well, like you said,
there is a Monday night doubleheader, the first of which
the Tampa Bay Buccaneer are going to Detroit to take

(01:44:01):
on the Lions. Lions are favored by six and a
half points. Jmart, what do you think happens?

Speaker 4 (01:44:06):
Man? Tim Bays is real? They really are, Like right now,
Baker Mayfield's the MVP of the league. I agree he is,
and he's I mean, consider the injuries he's dealt with.
Godwin missed the first whatever, and he's probably gonna miss
again this week. If Buka gets hurt. He's throwing the
dudes that you have not heard of, or a lot
of people haven't it. We have because we watched a
lot of college football. But like Mike Evans has been

(01:44:28):
on ir he's lost Bucky Irving, he's doing it with
everything under the sun. Obviously they have other players on
a team on the defensive side of the ball, and
Todd Bowles knows what he's doing, but like Baker's just
flat out dealing right now. Detroit is an awesome team
coming off of a loss.

Speaker 3 (01:44:42):
Where's the game being played in at Detroit and Detroit.

Speaker 4 (01:44:47):
I'll take Detroit because of that alone, but I really
am interested. I can't watch this game like these are
two teams that I think, honestly, especially in this NFC,
with some of the favorites looking very beatable. I've seen
one of these teams making it to the Super Bowl.

Speaker 2 (01:45:02):
Well, I was gonna say this could very well be
an NFC Championship game preview. I remember a few weeks
ago us talking about like it felt like it was
it was gonna be inevitably Philly and and Detroit basically
pulling away from the rest of the NFC. Philadelphia, of course,
has obviously lost too straight, including last Thursday night. So
I'm with you on Baker. I think it's the best

(01:45:24):
story in football. I think he is the MVP. And
I'll say this too, like it's it's early to have
these kind of conversations, but you talk about the possibility
of number one seed in the NFC home field advantage
in a division where there are a lot of wins
to be had. I know the Falcons are playing a
little bit better, but he already beat them in Atlanta.

Speaker 3 (01:45:47):
You get them at home.

Speaker 2 (01:45:48):
You still have the Panthers twice on the schedule, you
still get the Saints twice, So I mean, there's still
a lot of wins to be had. It's hard for
me to pick against the Lions at home coming off
of a loss. Same thing you just said, j Mart,
this is the game of the weekend. I know that
it's Monday night. I know there's a second Monday night game.
People aren't happy that we're gonna have to you know,

(01:46:10):
split screens here, but game of the weekend. I'll take
the trick to win at home. Give us a few more,
all right? How about the London game to start off tomorrow?

Speaker 4 (01:46:19):
Better than last week? Yeah? That was my Broncos and
that was one of the worst football games of all time.

Speaker 9 (01:46:22):
Jeez, I was watching it too, man, My Jets terrible.
But Rams Jaguars, that's this week's London game. Rams are
actually favored by three and a half points. Jaguars are
technically the home team.

Speaker 3 (01:46:34):
But you guys know the deal. It's in London. So
what do you think happens? Arin, It's a good question.
Uh no, Pooka. I'm just you know, there's something weird
with the Rams.

Speaker 2 (01:46:45):
I mean, you go back to listen, so you know, Jmark,
but week one barely survived the Texans. You know, the
Colts game obviously, Ad and I Mitchell basically fumbling away
a game that they you know, the Colts easily could
have won. That game, and forgive me for not being
overwhelmed by a win over the Baltimore Ravens with Cooper

(01:47:06):
Rush last week. So I guess now that I'm thinking
through it, you know, they had to fly. That's a
pretty far flight from LA to London. The Jags obviously
are semi used to that flight. Yeah, I just I'm
not as high on the Rams as everybody else.

Speaker 3 (01:47:24):
I get that.

Speaker 2 (01:47:25):
You know, right now the NFC West is wide open,
three teams at the top of that division. But I
like the Jags, I really do. And I think they've
actually looked pretty good under Liam Cohen in year one.

Speaker 4 (01:47:35):
I agree with you. I'm not going to add too
much to it other than that you don't have Pooka.
I'm not sure DeVante Adams has looked the part this year.
I entered the season being kind of skeptical of the
Rams and I still remain that way. I think Stafford's
been healthier than I expected, and he's been pretty good.
Kyra Williams has been solid for them as well. But
Jacksonville look Defensively, they've done well. Trevor has played pretty

(01:47:58):
decently well within him, they still haven't really let Travis
Hunter cook yet, but there's time, and they've said they're
gonna get him more involved. I like them to win
as well. I'm with you one hundred.

Speaker 2 (01:48:08):
Percent real quick before we get to the next game.
Three teams at four and two San Francisco, Seattle, and
the Rams. Any thought on who ultimately ends up winning
this division?

Speaker 4 (01:48:17):
Give me Seattle. I feel Samueattle. I like the defense,
They're healthier. I feel like JSN has become the guy,
like he's really exploded, especially now the DK is gone
and Sam Darnold's playing really solid football. It's hard to
really deny what you are seeing from them. And you
look at just I mean, when is Christian McCaffery. You're

(01:48:39):
going to go down and miss a couple of games? Sure,
Like that's that's something that you almost expected. He's the
one that's been healthy. And you knock on wood if
you're a forty nine ers fan on there, But I mean,
they just keep on losing guys. And then you look
at I just that division's got some talented players on
every team, but Seattle just seems to be the best
position in my opinion.

Speaker 2 (01:48:57):
Don't disagree. And as a guy who's been very critical
of Sam Darnold. Yeah, I don't have much to add.
Ian one more really quick before we get to Disagra.

Speaker 3 (01:49:06):
We'll be quick on this one.

Speaker 6 (01:49:07):
Yea.

Speaker 9 (01:49:07):
How about the Carson Wentz revenge game? Eagles are going
to Minnesota to take on the Vikings. Philly's actually favored
by two and a half points as the road team here.
But j Mart, what do you think?

Speaker 4 (01:49:17):
I feel like Dallas Goddard's gonna have a good day.
But that's about it because that's the only guy that
Jay when Hurst seems to throw the ball to. Right now,
AJ Brown, DeVante Smith, I don't know what's happened to Devonte.
He's just kind of disappeared completely. There's something really rotten
right now in Philadelphia, like something is off completely that team.
One thing is the offensive line is dealt with a

(01:49:37):
lot of injuries and that's not going to help you,
no question about that. But the sauce from last year
appears to have been tossed out. Like whatever they're cooking
this year is not as not as tasty, let's just
say that on either side of the ball. And they're
going too Minnesota against a team that is very very
well coached, and Carson Wentz is obviously going to I

(01:50:00):
would say he's going to be a little bit more,
just kind of jazzed up for this matchup. I'll take
Minnesota to win this game at home, even though I
just almost second guess myself after setting up that obvious take.
I'm gonna keep it though. I think Minnesota. I think
Jordan Mason could have a big day because Philadelphia all
of a sudden can't stop anybody on the ground, so
that should help him as well.

Speaker 2 (01:50:21):
Yeah, I'm of the belief, and you know, I think
the Philadelphia thing, like I get it. It was, you know,
interesting to start the year, but they were winning. Now
it just feels like a free fall. And I know
they have the extra time off because of the Sunday
night game or because of the Thursday night game. Excuse me,
I think there's something on there. I think the Vikings
get the win at home.

Speaker 3 (01:50:41):
All right, that was your Week seven preview.

Speaker 2 (01:50:45):
Maybe we come back on the back end talk a
little bit more NFL as we head into another busy Sunday.
But right now, speaking of busy, Di Seger, I know
we got to you a little bit late, but give
us what's trending here at one thirty eight Eastern time, and.

Speaker 7 (01:50:57):
The Rams stayed in Baltimore. They did not come back.
They have been practicing at Oriels Park at Camden Yards.

Speaker 3 (01:51:03):
Oh reely, I didn't know.

Speaker 7 (01:51:05):
And then we're getting in London this morning, Saturday morning
was the plan. Little walk through Sunday game and then
come back. But the plan for Jacksonville has arrived Tuesday
morning in London and be in England all week. Three
late games in College Football Final on FS one. New
Mexico did hold on at home to beat Nevada twenty
four to twenty two. Nevada one and six Oregon State

(01:51:26):
oh and seven, But you can't keep Oregon State down
for four quarters. They've dominated the second half to lead
Lafayette forty five thirteen with about a minute to go.
Stanford at home leads Florida State with about five minutes
left twenty to thirteen. If the Seminoles lose, that means
their conference record since the start of last season will
be one and eleven. Apparently, Mississippi State is oh and

(01:51:49):
eleven in its conference since the start of last year,
and Oklahoma State and Purdue are winless in their conferences
since the start of last year. That's Florida State's company
Number one. Ohio State is seven and oh this year
after winning at Wisconsin thirty four to nothing, Julian saying
not only four touchdown passes, he was twenty six of
forty two through the air, three hundred and ninety three yards.

(01:52:10):
The Badgers had under fifty yards passing. Today they're oh
to four in conference. Wisconsin had nine drives, nine first downs,
and Wisconsin is the first Big Ten team to get
shut out in back to back conference games since twenty
seventeen minutes.

Speaker 4 (01:52:24):
Speaking of jobs that would be open, yeah.

Speaker 7 (01:52:26):
Standing by. You know, it seems like half of the
guys that we talk about in that light they were
also at one time the hot commodity for open jobs.
It's funny how it works out. Number three Indiana boy
talk about hot commodities. Seven and oh beat Michigan State
today thirty eight to thirteen. Fernando Mendoza four touchdown passes.
He was twenty four of twenty eight three hundred and

(01:52:48):
thirty two yards passing. Hoosiers only one penalty today, no turnovers,
no punts. They were down ten seven second quarter. But
the Spartans are oh and four in conference. Number four Texas.
A and M got three touchdown passes from Marcel Reid
won forty five forty two at Arkansas tonight. Ad MS
lead was ten points in the final seconds. Next Saturday night,

(01:53:08):
A and M at LSU LSU two and two in
conference play after losing at Vanderbilt today thirty one twenty
four and the Tigers had defeated Bandy ten straight times
Vanderbilt six and one. For the first time since nineteen
fifty Georgia won its top ten matchup in a comeback
against Old Miss forty three to thirty five Mississippi. In
the first three quarters today, scored touchdowns on its first

(01:53:31):
five possessions and then in the fourth quarter three drives
only thirteen yards total, Georgia no turnovers. They scored seventeen
straight points in the fourth. Gunnerstocked and finished for Georgia
with four touchdown passes three to tight end loss and lucky.
In fact, the Georgia offense had thirty four first downs.
They scored points on all eight of their drives today

(01:53:51):
and then took a knee at the end. Alabama over
Tennessee thirty seven to twenty. Bama with the ninety nine
yard pick six to in the first half at Arizona State.
The Sun Devil's upset Number seven Texas Tech twenty six
twenty two on a last minute TD Texas Tech quarterback
Baron Morton did not play due to a knee entry.
Number eight Oregon had seven hundred and fifty yards of offense,

(01:54:12):
winning at Rutgers fifty six to ten. Dante More four
touchdown passes in the first half. It was a forty
two to three lead at the half for Oregon. Georgia
Tech and Oklahoma each one. Notre Dame beat usc thirty
four to twenty four. Jeremiah Love two hundred twenty eight
yards rushing in a score. Missouri won in double overtime
at Auburn. Texas won in overtime at Kentucky BYU beat

(01:54:33):
Utah eighteenth rag Virginia beat Washington State twenty two to
twenty with a fuel goal and a safety in the
last three minutes, our first tie breaking safety in the
fourth quarter of a college football game since twenty eighteen.
Iowa State. Oregon State has just won, and Stanford is
still leading Florida State thirty excuse me, twenty to thirteen,

(01:54:54):
and Stanford has just punted to him with three forty
four to go. ALCS continues Sunday eighte on FS one.
Back to you.

Speaker 3 (01:55:01):
Thank you very much, Steve di Seger Disaga. Have a
great evening.

Speaker 2 (01:55:04):
We'll listen to you on Sunday with Mark Willer and
he from Salam, Chris Plank and Arnie Spaniard.

Speaker 7 (01:55:11):
Find Oregon State fans are storming the field. I'm not
kidding against Lafayette, that's correct, their first win of the year.

Speaker 3 (01:55:17):
Well, good for them. Fired a coach, you beat Lafayette.

Speaker 7 (01:55:19):
I'm apparently the PAC twelve with two schools has no
SAT rules against doing these things. Congratulations.

Speaker 3 (01:55:26):
Yeah, I didn't know.

Speaker 2 (01:55:28):
We're gonna get Oregon State Lafayette into the show. Fox
Sports Radio eritors Jason Martin will come back. We will
have the full play by play recap of Oregon State Lafayette. No,
we will not at all, but we'll wrap the show.
Lots still to discuss.

Speaker 3 (01:55:43):
Fox Sports Radio Welcome back, everybody.

Speaker 2 (01:55:48):
Fox Sports Radio aer tors Jason Martin broadcasting live from
the Fox Sports Radio studios. If you missed any of
today's show, you're gonna want to catch the podcast. A
lot of college football, a lot of NFL maybe even
a little Major League Baseball. Be sure to follow the
podcast rate at five stars. You can even provide a review.

(01:56:09):
All you got to do just search Fox Sports Radio
wherever you get your podcasts, and you'll find today's show.
As soon as we get off air, j mart I
got about a couple minutes left before we toss it
to Bernie Fratto. First of all, anything heading into Week
seven of the NFL that we missed obviously a fun
time a year, a lot of stuff going on. There's

(01:56:30):
been so much college football we didn't really have a
ton to get to as far as NFL is concerned.
Anything that's really caught your attention, I mean.

Speaker 4 (01:56:37):
Not really that we haven't already covered. I mean we've
seen I don't know, Washington seems like they've taken a
bit of a step back, and I think that's not
altogether unexpected. We can talk about Thursday real quick and
just say, what is Jill Flacco doing exactly? Yeah. I
understand that Pittsburgh's defense was not good in that game,

(01:56:58):
but Flacco just showed up there like a week ago. Sure,
And here's the thing, like he's always been pretty good
and even when he came back off the couch basically
into the league. He showed he could do something he's
never in his entire career had receiving weapons like he
does here there. Ever, so you take a guy with talent, experience,

(01:57:22):
knows the division and you hand him Jamar Chase and
t Higgins who made one of the smartest plays you
could possibly make by going down after making that great
catch on that last drive. And this happens, and now
I understand, like, oh, maybe it does make sense why
Cincinnati did this, because Flacco knows what he's doing and

(01:57:44):
you've just handed him some weapons in a division where
there's a whole lot that seems up for grabs all
of a sudden, and maybe Burrow can actually get back
if you make it to the playoffs, even if he
can't in this kind of AFC, why not take that shot.
It's like a sixth round pick or whatever that you
end up giving up to get him in. Like at first,
I was just like why would you do this? And

(01:58:05):
now I'm like, oh, okay, I know exactly why you
did this. This actually makes sense.

Speaker 3 (01:58:09):
Yeah, the Bengals take care of the Steelers thirty three.

Speaker 4 (01:58:12):
That's a great game.

Speaker 2 (01:58:13):
Thirty one, Yeah, I know, I know, Bengals get the
win all of a sudden three and four. As you referenced,
you got a pair of one in five teams bringing
up the bottom of that division. There are wins to
be had in that division. By the way, next week
Bengals j Ets, Jets, Jets Jets at home, so we
might have ourselves a little winning streak here real quick.
You know, we haven't talked much baseball. Dodgers clinched the

(01:58:35):
World Series spot on Friday night. I know you're not
a huge Dodgers guy. Being a Braves guy was pretty incredible.
Anything to add there, or looking ahead to Game six
in Toronto where Seattle is up three to two and
one game away from clinching the World Series.

Speaker 4 (01:58:52):
Yeah, I mean, obviously I'm not a Dodgers fan. And
I sent that text to you, and it's just like,
I can't watch the Dodgers. It's like eating mayonnaise. It's
just a no go for me at all times. That's
not really accurate. I mean, certainly I would watch him yesterday,
I just had some other stuff going on. But obviously
I saw what I needed to see. Didn't watch every
pitch certainly, And I kind of wish I had seen
a little bit more of it. But what are you

(01:59:14):
going to say about that stat line and the home
run distance on the one in particular, and the reaction
from freemen and everything. Everybody said afterwards, this is why
you paid Otani that money, because not only can he
do that, but he can make sure everybody sees it
in a Dodger's uniform, and so all of it makes
total sense. The only thing it's just like it's boring

(01:59:34):
because this is what you thought was going to happen
with that roster, and during the season they kind of
golden stated it, and now they're showing up and it's like, oh,
they're just gonna go win it again, aren't they maybe
