Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Welcome man, everybody, Fox Sports Radio, Fox Sports Saturday, Fox
Football Saturday. As a matter of fact, Eric Torris, Jason Martin,
we are broadcasting live from the Fox Sports Radio studios.
It is eleven pm Eastern time. First off, I think
I speak for J mart when I say hope we
(00:25):
appreciate everybody sticking with us. Last Saturday feels like a
lifetime ago, but we were on during the thrilling Game
seven of the World Series. J Martin, a little bit
of a quieter day in college football. I'll say this.
You know, all of the crazy firings are fun for
content in real time, but now you just got a
(00:47):
bunch of sad fan bases that I don't even know
how much they care. Florida just got destroyed by Kentucky
Alabama putting the finishing touches. Excuse me on LSU. Penn
State fall is essentially as time expired and a thriller
against Indiana. But you know, I mean, listen, I mean this,
(01:07):
This day was supposed to be defined by a pair
of playoff teams from last year, Penn State, Indiana Alabama. LSU.
That's one of the great rivalries that we all love.
Not a lot on the docket today, But I hope
you're doing well, my man. And uh yeah, just that
that's tours is big take it. It's fun to watch
these guys get fun. It's not fun to watch people
get fired, but it is what it is.
Speaker 3 (01:28):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:29):
But then it just leaves a lot of sad fan
bases and and you know, not the results that we're expecting.
How you doing them?
Speaker 3 (01:33):
Now? Yeah, yeah, there were there were a couple of
near misses today and that's not too bad. But yeah,
I think there's it's it's a little.
Speaker 4 (01:45):
Bit of the calm before the storm.
Speaker 3 (01:46):
But we're also having we're going through a winning process
in college football, right We're starting to kind of see
who's real and who's not. And some of the teams
that were kind of borderline that you were just sort
of waiting to see when them kind of playing it
dangerously was going to catch them, we're seeing a couple
of those things happen. Like Virginia, for example, the acc
(02:08):
is a complete mess, and we're just seeing kind of
the cream of the croper eyes where we know who
is good, I think at this point, and we know
who really has a chance. Not in terms of making
the playoff. There's still a lot of teams that could
potentially make it if things were to fall their way,
But in terms of teams that you really look at
and say this team could make a run, I think
that that number is starting to get a bit smaller.
Speaker 2 (02:31):
Yeah. I think it's actually a great point by you
is that the first college football playoff ranking came out
this week, and you know, next week is really where
the herd. It's gonna be thin one way or the other.
We think Oklahoma travels to Alabama, Texas plays Georgia, and
so you know, if Georgia or if Texas and Alabama
(02:52):
or Texas and Oklahoma excuse me, lose, then that's two
teams that conceivably would probably be on the outside looking in.
I guess in theory, if either or both won, then
all of a sudden it makes things a lot more interesting.
But uh yeah, not, you know, for people just joining us,
not a ton of upsets. I guess let's just talk
really quickly. Alabama final in Tuscaloosa. They take care of LSU.
(03:17):
You know, I'll say this feels like it felt like, honestly,
like probably the least hyped LSU Bama game of Oh yeah, yeah, guy,
did you have anything to say on this?
Speaker 4 (03:31):
Nothing massive?
Speaker 3 (03:32):
No, I mean, I'm not surprised that it was fairly close.
Just that's the way these games often have seemed to be.
I think the difference was LSU appeared to be the
team that they were with less miles where it was
like a nine to three kind of game when these
two teams played, and Alabama still looks like a team
that has a bit of an offense. Still don't think
(03:53):
they run the ball particularly well, but the quarterback doesn't
make a ton of mistakes, and they're just just enough
weaponry for him to get the football too that that's
generally gonna be enough for them. When you look at LSU,
like their offense is just almost nonexistent. It doesn't matter
who's playing quarterback. I heard Greg McElroy saying on the broadcast,
He's not wrong. The offensive line is just an atrocity.
(04:16):
It is amazing that that is the offensive line that
that LSU is fielding and has fielded throughout much of
this season. I know they've dealt with some injuries, but
at the same time, like boy, like the quarterback has
no shot even though I'm not a big nuff Meyer
guy and I don't really believe in him at the
next level, be glad for him to prove me wrong.
But nobody is going to succeed with an O line
(04:40):
as futud as LSU's has been this year.
Speaker 2 (04:42):
Yeah, that was one thing prior to Brian Kelly getting fired.
I remember saying this in real time, is like, it's
wild that that dude basically made his entire career off
of great offensive line play a Notre name, right, And
it's like, ye, like that was the one thing that
you you could count on at Notre Dame from Brian Kelly.
(05:02):
They were gonna play. They were gonna be great in
the trenches. They weren't gonna be great at the skill positions.
And by the way, that was actually why Brian Kelly
took the LSU job. He's like, well, if I could
do this with the limited, you know, skill talent at
Notre Dame, imagine what I could do with the O
lines that I've developed with the talent that they have.
So that to me was as surprising as anything. And
(05:24):
I think, you know, more than anything, it's why he
got fired. I'll say this like I'm with you. I
have never been a Garrett Nusm, myyer fan. I know
you haven't either, to be clear, but it's weird because
he isn't good. He was also eighteen of twenty one
passing today. Like it's just an I think increasingly, you know,
I think Penn State's probably a little bit of a
(05:45):
different deal because you know, Penn State, Drew Roller gets
hurt whatever. But like you look at the Florida result,
you look at the LSU result, it's just like just
blow it up, like just blow it up and start.
I don't know, it's just with LSU. I don't know why.
I guess the defense is pretty good.
Speaker 3 (06:06):
But I don't know what I though.
Speaker 2 (06:09):
That's what I'm saying is like, and I think I
said this a few weeks ago, as I said, you know,
the offense was bad, but I thought the defense was
even a little bit overrated, because if you looked early statistically,
they were you know, whatever in every category. But it's like, Okay,
they beat a lousy Florida team, they beat a lousy
Clemson team, and so I just you know, we're gonna
(06:31):
spend the next few weeks talking about who's the next
coach here, who's the next coach there? But it's like
ls I don't know what LSU does well, And I'll
take it a step further. I wasn't trying to make
this a Florida segment, but Florida goes to Kentucky and loses,
crushed thirty eight to seven. Rushed thirty eight, by the way,
the first time that Mark Stoops has ever made the
(06:53):
opening segment of this show, except last year when he
punted like on his own forty two or whatever. But anyway, yeah, yeah,
that's right. Yeah, I was gonna say, dude's probably you know,
we talked about all these guys that get fired. You know,
Mark Stoops was a guy that was trending towards probably
losing his job. They're now on a two game SEC
wins streak. They're at four and five. They played Tennessee
Tech next week, so they'll be five and five going
(07:14):
into their final two. So this is not a Mark
Stoops segment, but credit to him. But my goodness, Florida
looked bad. I'm just kind of vamping right now. J Mart.
I have nothing specific about these two teams. I just
cannot believe how bad those two teams are specifically, and
as we start talking about who's next, what's next, it's
like both these both these teams, both these programs just
(07:35):
have a big, massive cleanup to do with whatever's next.
Speaker 3 (07:39):
Look, it's hard to win. Okay, it's hard to win
in college football. We're not here to say that it's not.
But you get paid a lot of money to win,
and a lot of people get paid a ton of
money to make these decisions as to who is going
to be hired that is going to help take a
program to the next level. And you look at Florida
and LSU and it just hasn't gone very well recently.
(08:04):
The hires did not work at Florida, multiple hires in
a row. You've seen that at some programs. They're just
waiting for the right hire and you can turn it
around relatively quickly. We've seen that now in the NIL
era and with the transfer portal and all of kind
of the new toys that a coach has to play
with when he comes in.
Speaker 4 (08:21):
He didn't have to build it.
Speaker 3 (08:22):
Straight up through recruiting, and it takes three years Florida
to become his roster. That's not really the way it
is anymore. But Florida has just done a poor job
at finding the guy that fits that program, that fits
that community, that does have that pipeline and can get
it done on Saturdays, and LSU increasingly the same way.
(08:42):
I mean, I will say this, I think very few
people questioned the Brian Kelly choice when it was made
from a football perspective, sure, based on what you had
seen it notre Dame. From a fit perspective in terms
of culture and all that. That's a that's a different animal.
If he wasn't going to win, then it was going
to be a really bad fit. But at the same time,
(09:05):
it hasn't worked. And look how far LSU seems to
have fallen. And now that the SEC has expanded, You've
brought in Oklahoma, you've brought in Texas, You've just gotten worse.
Like LSU has become and we talked about this a
couple of weeks ago, they've become irrelevant. They've become like, oh,
LSU's playing, that's not the way it used to feel.
And within half a season that's where you are. You've
(09:27):
got that happening in LSU. And then of course you
have Penn State losing six games in a row, which
is astonishing based on where they were seen at the
beginning of the year. But I mean, these were both
teams that were trendy picks to make some noise and
be there in the playoff. Neither one obviously going to
be there, But LSU and Florida are programs that just
(09:51):
it's kind of unbelievable that neither one of them is
anything to talk about in a positive sense at this point.
It is going to be fascinating to see who they land.
Florida has to be just like, how much money do
we have to give lang Kiffin to come here? Yeah,
that's what it feels like to me, And that's the
one job I think he would take.
Speaker 4 (10:11):
LSU.
Speaker 3 (10:12):
I'm not sure because if we talked about it last week,
the political stuff and all the other things that kind
of surround the state of Louisiana and how the LSU
football program.
Speaker 4 (10:22):
Is handled, and I don't know.
Speaker 3 (10:24):
I don't know what they're gonna end up with specifically,
but I think if Florida does not end up with
Lane Kiffen, it's going to be.
Speaker 4 (10:31):
A failure well in terms of what they wanted.
Speaker 3 (10:35):
Like, I think that the fans are going to be
disappointed with anybody other than Lane Kiffin.
Speaker 2 (10:39):
Yeah, I think the only scenario where I would say maybe,
you know, I wouldn't necessarily like if he makes a
deep playoff run. Sure, I actually think that's low key.
First of all, I think it's interesting and like sometimes
you see stuff on social media it's nonsense, but I
do think it's worth noting. Matt Rule, Kurt Signetti, Rhet Lashly,
the SMU coach have all signed extensions. Lane Kiffin has not.
(11:03):
Maybe they're in negotiations, we don't know, But I do
think that's the most interesting part of the Lane Kiffin
stuff is how long can you wait on him? And
for people who don't know. Old Miss wins today to
improve to nine and one on the season. They have
two games left Florida at home, we just discussed them,
and then they close the season at Ole Miss. They
(11:25):
actually have a or at Mississippi State. Excuse me, they
actually have a buy in between, so they have the
late bye, second to last weekend of the regular season.
But you know, basically, you'd think they're sitting at nine
and one right now. You'd think ten and two would
get them into the college football playoff. And even if
they're playing that opening weekend For people who don't know,
(11:47):
opening weekend is until December twentieth, the nineteenth and twentieth,
and so it becomes a question of how long can
you wait. By the way, obviously if he wins a game,
now you're talking about New Year's Eve, New Year's Day
type set. So I'll say this, j mart And I
didn't even mean to make this into a coaching carousel segment,
but no, but.
Speaker 3 (12:05):
You knew it was. I mean, this is this is
the kind of time when you're talking about programs like this. Yeah,
I mean, this is what we just saw in prime
time was what happened to LSU. So you're not going
to talk about LSU without getting into a coaching carousel situation.
Speaker 2 (12:17):
Well yeah, and and I'll just say bigger picture is
there are so many jobs open right now that like,
like they actually it was funny. I forget what game
I was watching. I don't even know which. It might
not have even been a game involving a school that
is looking for a new head coach. Like nine Power
Conference jobs are currently open. That is insane, Like it's
(12:39):
the you know, we just hit the first week of November.
You know, in theory more could open. Florida State not
looking very good right now, they're headed towards another disappointing season.
But it is crazy, And I guess the point that
I'm trying to get to is you mentioned Florida fans
being disappointed. If it isn't Lane Kiffin, I just think
(12:59):
there's go I think most of these schools are probably
going to be disappointed because how many candidates are there
that you want.
Speaker 3 (13:07):
That's why I think that's why Wisconsin's doing what they're doing.
I agree percent, one hundred percent believe that they are
bringing Luke Fickle back because they know their job cannot compete.
And look, Wisconsin's had a great football tradition. This is
not to say that they're nobody, but when you're looking
at Florida, LSU, Auburn, you know some of these kind
of heavy hitting schools, Penn State, those kinds of schools,
(13:29):
like you're just not going to measure up in that
Florida State even like these are these are jobs where
it's like it's going to be easier to get candidates there,
and so maybe you just run it back one more
year and it becomes a lame duck year. Unless Fickle's
able to kind of do something in the offseason, it
gives him another chance. But I think maybe next year
(13:50):
they think, well, a lot of these jobs are not
going to be opened the same way. Next year, maybe
we're going to look more appetizing and have a better run,
because who wants the eighth best coach, at least in
your own mind in this cycle, Like all the guys
on your board are probably going somewhere else.
Speaker 2 (14:05):
By the way, I know we're just throwing stuff up
against the wall here, but all of a sudden, James
frankly doesn't look like a half bad candidate.
Speaker 3 (14:11):
Hunt.
Speaker 2 (14:11):
No, he doesn't like whether it's Virginia Tech, whether it's Auburn,
whether it's one of these jobs. By the way, Alburn,
Auburn loses today. Their once stout defense gives up forty
five points.
Speaker 3 (14:22):
So diego Pavia Heisman Trophy. Baby.
Speaker 2 (14:25):
Well, I mean, listen, I said it last week, or
I said it a few weeks ago, as I thought
he should be in the conversation.
Speaker 4 (14:31):
He should be in New York.
Speaker 2 (14:32):
Yeah, when you look at the stats, you're like, oh,
you know, he's not not you know whatever.
Speaker 3 (14:36):
But I don't know, man, he had four total touchdowns
today in that game against a pretty good Auburn defense.
He pretty much willed them to stay in it on
a day where Vanderbilt's defense could not seem to stop
what Auburn was doing. I mean, Mendoza, I mean, you
know who's going to be there, but Pop. What is
Vanderbilt without Diego Pavia? You know, what is their offense?
Speaker 2 (14:57):
Well? What is the program? Like I haven't thought is
that we might have mentioned this last week when they
lost to Texas. Like if I'm Clark Lee, I know
it's his alma mater. For people who don't know the
Vanderbilt coach, he went to Vanderbilt. You know, his stated
life dream was to build Vanderbilt into a power. It's like,
I don't know what they are without Diego Pavia. And
(15:17):
it's like, I know, it's you know, it's it's you know,
everything's great right now. And you're sitting at eight and
one or whatever you are, or eight and two and
you're in the playoff mix and whatever. I'm him, And yeah,
I was gonna say, and Penn State or LSU or
somebody offers me that Godfather deal, I'd probably have to
(15:37):
take it. Fox Sports Radio Aertorius Jason Martin broadcasting live
from the Fox Sports Radio Studios. J mart just brought
up a potential Heisman moment for Diego Pavia. You gotta

j Martin, you know what makes somebody lose their minds.
Speaker 3 (16:56):
Wait a second, Can I tell you? Can I tell
you something?
Speaker 6 (16:58):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (16:59):
What do you got?
Speaker 3 (16:59):
Early this week, went to a restaurant for lunch.
Speaker 2 (17:04):
And do the Joe Flacco sit at the bar by yourself?
Actually I did, oh yeah, because my wife couldn't join me.
She was doing some medical charts. So I just went
there and enjoyed myself.
Speaker 3 (17:14):
But as I'm walking out of the restaurant, somebody is
walking in wearing a rough Rider's T shirt. Let's go,
let's go myself, I was like, man, r ip DMX.
Speaker 4 (17:28):
I have not thought about the rough Riders.
Speaker 3 (17:30):
In a long long time and then and I had
not had this conversation with anybody out there. And now
we come back with that, We come back, we come
back out with party up.
Speaker 4 (17:40):
And I immediately thought.
Speaker 3 (17:41):
I was like, man, rough Riders are making a comeback, apparently,
because this is twice in a week that they have
found their way into my universe again. Mary Maxippros, sorry
to send you off to the side there, but no,
I thought that was interesting.
Speaker 2 (17:53):
Well, I will tell you what, there was nothing better.
Now I'm an old man. But back in high school,
after a big win high school football, they're playing some
DMX in the locker room. But I'll tell you what.
You know who had a big win today, the Indiana
freaking Hoosiers. Okay, I don't know if they played any
DMX in the locker room, But how about this. First
of all, we talked about it last tagment Jmark credit
(18:15):
to Penn statement, you know easily could have laid over.
As you said, they've lost five straight games, obviously the
last two since James Franklin has been fired. Tell you
what they had Indiana on the ropes. They were up
twenty four to twenty. Indiana gainst the ball with just
a few minutes to go, drive the length of the field.
You've got to hear Gus Johnson on the call as
(18:40):
Fernando Mendoza potentially had his Heisman moment, Dondza. That was
Gus Johnson on the call. A Fernando Mendoza touchdown pass
(19:04):
to Omar Cooper, one of the great catches you will
ever see, the double toe tap. By the way, you
knew it was a great game because listen to Kurtz
Signetti after the game describing his emotion with the victory.
Speaker 7 (19:20):
It was such an incredible finish, but the composure from
your quarterback to find over Cooper there for that game
winning touchdown.
Speaker 2 (19:27):
Take me through it, refuse to lose.
Speaker 8 (19:29):
Basically sacked on the one. Haven't done anything the last
five to six passes, get no protection, right, running ball
through us, play action pass, no timeouts left and make
a play on second and who knows what thirty for
a first down?
Speaker 1 (19:46):
Great play in the end zone.
Speaker 2 (19:48):
Didn't draw it up in.
Speaker 8 (19:49):
The dirt, But I mean we saw what they were
doing and it's a great throw and catch.
Speaker 2 (19:54):
And you know what, this was an unbelievable win. I've
see a lot of stuff in my days.
Speaker 1 (20:00):
I'm never say anything quite like this.
Speaker 3 (20:03):
Now, don't extend that guy. They have some emotion from
Kurt Signetti and they have. You know, he has another
ten win season, right, he has two ten win seasons
in a row.
Speaker 4 (20:12):
Do you know how.
Speaker 3 (20:13):
Many Indiana had prior to him coming? And I mean
in the history of the ind of the football program
dating back to eighteen eighty seven.
Speaker 2 (20:20):
I do because I looked it up when he got
the extension and everybody was complaining about it. But I'll
let you said it. I'll let you pay that off. Jmart.
How many ten win seasons did Indiana have before Kurt
Signetti got there last year zero and how many have
they had since he got there?
Speaker 4 (20:37):
Two?
Speaker 2 (20:38):
But oh my goodness, but don't pay him. We gave
him this big extension and the school is gonna regret it.
Speaker 4 (20:45):
What could they mind?
Speaker 2 (20:47):
Listen, I said this at the time. I think they
were like six and oh at that point, maybe seven
and oh. And I said Kurt Signetti could lose every
game this year. So let's say they were six and oh.
I said he could lose every game this year, they'd
still be six and six. And he could go six
and six the next three years. And that is quite
literally the best five year stretch in the history of
(21:08):
Indiana football. Well, clearly they haven't, and so I'm not
even trying to put that out there. What I am
just saying is what this guy has done to elevate
this program is unbelievable. I know where you're going with
the j Mart deserving of being the second or third
or whatever highest paid coach. And again, by the way,
I wanted to talk Mendoza, but for half a second,
j Mart, this pays off what we talked about at
(21:30):
the time. Oh yeah, Because if you don't give him
that extension and oh my, how do you give him
all that money guaranteed? Well, I don't know, because Florida
has an opening, and penn State has an opening, and
LSU as an opening, and maybe he wouldn't even consider them,
or maybe there's one that he would consider. By the way,
he's born in Pennsylvania, so like there's one that makes
(21:53):
a lot of sense as far as I'm concerned. But
that's why you do it, because you risk losing him
in what the alternative? You don't pay them and you
let the maybe the best coach in college football, certainly
the best coach you've ever had, walk out the door.
Unbelievable win for Indiana ten and zero Mendoza's Heisman moment.
But you take that wherever you want, Jamarin.
Speaker 3 (22:13):
I mean, there's nothing to say other than this is
a football team that's just finding a way and this
coach has got them believing.
Speaker 4 (22:22):
And when you.
Speaker 3 (22:23):
Start, when the when you start winning, when the culture
becomes winning, then all of a sudden things start to
It seems to say, things bounce your way, like that
was a that's always been the problem, right with the chiefs,
Things bounce their way or the officials are giving them
these calls. It was the same way with the Patriots.
Notice that all the good teams seem to get the bounces.
All these things start to happen. So it's not like
(22:45):
a mental thing, but it's when you start to win,
just the little stuff, the details start to come together.
Penn State played their butts off especially. I mean, that
defense did everything that you could have possibly wanted them
to do, and then Fernando Mendoza went crazy. He had
eighty some yards on that last drive and made and
(23:07):
that catch. I don't even I don't understand how a
human being could get their foot down like it's just
absolutely preposterous. Just a perfect play.
Speaker 4 (23:15):
There's no defense. There's no defense against that play. Pennce.
Speaker 3 (23:18):
They didn't do anything wrong, there was just he was
gonna make that catch, and he made that catch and
the ball was exactly where it needed.
Speaker 4 (23:24):
It was just perfect. So I don't know where to.
Speaker 3 (23:27):
Take it other than I don't know if Indiana is
gonna win the national championship. But this story is no
longer just cute, yep or interesting.
Speaker 4 (23:36):
This story is legit. This coach is legit, this quarterback
is legit.
Speaker 3 (23:40):
He's probably gonna win the Heisman and probably deserves to
win the Heisman. It's just amazing because this is the
kind of game that a whole lot of teams are
gonna lose, a whole lot of good football teams, and
they have all the pressure, right because they're undefeated. They're
trying to stay in that number two spot. They may not,
they may drop to three with what Texas A and
(24:02):
M did to Missouri, which is fine, but they still
found a way to win the game, very similar as
a matter of fact of what Oregon had to do.
Both those two teams in a Big Ten survived scares.
But that's the important part. Good teams find a way
to still get out of there with a victory, and
that's exactly what they did.
Speaker 2 (24:22):
Really quick he talked about you know, at some point
it's not blind luck. And listen, I do think the
word culture is kind of overused in the sport, in
the entire sports world, but certainly in college football. But
you want to hear the definition of culture. So for
people who weren't able to watch this game, Fernando Mendoza
got rocked time after time after time again, I mean,
(24:43):
Penn State. Whatever you want to say about how the
season has unfolded. Nobody ever questioned their defense. Eight TFLs,
three sacks, even on the touchdown pass got rocked in
the pocket. After the game, Mendoza was asked about the
physical play, how he's feeling in you know any ill
will about how you know how Penn State really kind
(25:04):
of beat him up. Listen to what he had to say.
Speaker 9 (25:07):
So, yeah, I mean physically I feel good. I would
say I'm a larger quarterback.
Speaker 3 (25:12):
But to see what the.
Speaker 9 (25:12):
Defense, special teams and offense, especially the offense line, when
they're going through battling every play, I can't stay on
the ground no matter how hard the hit is, no
matter how.
Speaker 2 (25:21):
Much it hurts.
Speaker 10 (25:22):
When seeing those guys and seeing Charlie Becker's over there
in my roommate, or seeing Omar Cooper Junior take a hit.
Speaker 9 (25:27):
On the scene, or seeing you know, Pat Coogan Khalil
Benson is battling their butts off, I know that I'm
gonna put my life on the line for that team,
and I'm gonna die on that field. I will never
sum myself out in that instance, and I would die
on that field for my brothers.
Speaker 2 (25:40):
I would die on the field for I mean That's
pretty good stuff, isn't it.
Speaker 3 (25:44):
I'd chills, yeah, and that's chills from an athlete, Like
that's you would go through a wall for that guy. Yeah,
because you believe him, because he's way too specific and
detailed in what he's saying there. He's not just like, man,
I love my guys, Like there are times I hate
to bring this gentleman's name up right now, let me
get because it's just low hanging for.
Speaker 2 (26:05):
Pro or college pro. And it is a quarterback right, No,
it's the NBA. Oh okay, you go where Ron?
Speaker 4 (26:12):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (26:12):
Yeah, that's I was assuming.
Speaker 3 (26:13):
When Lebron wins, He's like, man, my guys, my guys
helped me win tonight. It was a step up when
need be, but my guys really helped me out and
all this. It's just like you can just see through that,
you know. But that right there was just genuine because
he was just like these guys and these special teams
and I can't stay on the ground and all this
no matter how hard the hit was. Basically, he's basically saying,
(26:35):
unless I'm concussed or injured to where they take me
out of the game, we're at war together and we're
going to stay at war together.
Speaker 4 (26:42):
It's like you.
Speaker 3 (26:43):
You know, I mean, imagine if you're an offensive lineman,
how much easier it is to block for a guy
that has your back as opposed to it always just
being the offensive line having the quarterbacks back. Nah, both
these It just that that right there goes to the
word that you use. That's a culture, that's that is
that is that kind of family atmosphere.
Speaker 4 (27:05):
But it's also a toughness.
Speaker 3 (27:07):
There is a there's a strength in that, there's a
power in the teamwork there, and that comes straight from
Signetti and his staff.
Speaker 2 (27:14):
Well, I'll tell you what, Fernando Mendoza making a lot
of friends and a lot of fans across the country.
The Jets now have a lot of first round picks.
Speaker 4 (27:24):
Yeah they do.
Speaker 2 (27:25):
I'll tell you what. We'll switch gears because Fernando Menjoe
doose it might be a future Jet. We'll do that
here in just a moment. Before we do, though, Steve Desager,
you die for us here in this studio, wouldn't you?
You die for your brothers on the field here? Not
sure about that, I'll come.
Speaker 11 (27:42):
I do know that what you just said is making
a lot of fans That was the first reaction I
had after that game ended and they interviewed him on
the field. It was great that you played that quote
from the quarterback as well. I felt like this team
is impossible to root against.
Speaker 3 (27:57):
I agree that, right.
Speaker 11 (27:58):
I didn't grow up in in or around it, so
there's nothing naturally in me against it. This is superb.
This is I I can't get enough of this.
Speaker 2 (28:07):
I want to see more well, and really quick. I
would say too. I thought when the game went final,
we would get grumpy, angry Signetti and for him to
practically be in tears talking about his guys fighting, like
that's another thing, right, it's you know that little kurtz
Signetti every time you think he's gonna ziggy zags. And
I was just I was ready for grumpy, mean Kurt Signetti.
(28:29):
And you could just see and you could hear it
in the audio we played like he had never seen
anything like that before, been part of anything like that.
Speaker 11 (28:36):
And the quarterback quote you just played reminded me a
bit of something that Tim Tebow would have said, also,
where you just know not only there's a lot of
talent on the field, but the grit is there as well,
and the never ever give up what a great teammate
to have. And as far as the Indiana Hoosiers football
seasons over the years, now, granted it wasn't until about
twenty years ago they even played more than eleven games
(28:58):
in a season, but if you look at how bad
they have been in conference play over the decades, I'm
talking about since nineteen forty five, since world War two,
there's essentially been one awesome season in Indiana football history,
and that was going to the Rose Bowl in nineteen
sixty seven. A majority of the Indiana football season since
(29:20):
world War two, they've gone roughly two and seven are
worse in conference play, including this century, and Kurt Signetti
in one year goes from one to eight in conference
to eight and one last year.
Speaker 2 (29:32):
I remember about six seven years ago, there was a
year where they start out like five and three or something,
and there was a big thing online of like seven Indiana,
Like it was like a big deal that seriously it.
Speaker 4 (29:44):
Was heard that before.
Speaker 3 (29:46):
That's funny.
Speaker 2 (29:46):
Yeah, I was like, they got the seven winslet start
a parade. And to Jay Mart's point, literally historically the
two best seasons in program history the first two years
he shows up.
Speaker 4 (29:57):
They have don't pay him.
Speaker 2 (29:58):
Yeah, they not. I looked this up.
Speaker 11 (30:01):
They have not won a bowl game Indiana football since
the nineteen ninety one Copper Bowl in Twuson, so that
might be a stretch that's broken this year.
Speaker 3 (30:11):
Does that still exist?
Speaker 11 (30:13):
No, there is an Arizona Bowl which would be in
the same stadium. But Indiana, ranked second in the country,
is ten and zero overall after winning on the late
touchdown pass at Penn State twenty seven, twenty four. The
game winning drive was ten plays eighty yards in a minute.
Fifteen wins in the top ten for Ohio State and
Texas A and M wins for Alabama, Georgia and Ole Miss.
(30:35):
That Alabama wins tonight was twenty to nine against LSU,
which committed ten penalties and had two fumbles. Top ten
matchup at Texas Tech today, and my goodness were the
Red Raiders dominant over byu IS twenty six nothing in
the fourth quarter twenty nine to seven.
Speaker 12 (30:50):
The final.
Speaker 11 (30:51):
Oregon won in the rain at Iowa eighteen sixteen on
a field goal in the final seconds, and the Ducks
had scored a safety early in the game after a
bad snap on a punt. They win by two at
tenth rank Notre Dame Tonight in the snow Irish forty
nine to ten over Navy. Wake Forest won at number
fourteen Virginia sixteen to nine. Cal won in overtime at
(31:12):
number fifteen Louisville twenty nine, twenty six, sixteenth rank. Vanderbilt
came back for an overtime win at home against Auburn
forty five thirty eight. Miami beat Syracuse, Wisconsin upset Washington,
and we have four late games tonight in college football
on Fox TV. It's late third quarter. Nebraska leads at
UCLA twenty eight to fourteen. The Nebraska quarterback is from
(31:35):
Los Angeles, TJ. Latiff with three touchdown passes. The UCLA
quarterback is from the La area, nico Eamalaiava twelve kerries
sixty three yards rushing for the Bruins. UNLV's trying to
go to seven and two. They're leading early third quarter
at Colorado State twenty eight to ten. This is on
FS one right now. Halftime at Oregon State. The Beavers
(31:55):
two and seven this year, but they're hosting oh to
eight Sam Houston teen seven.
Speaker 12 (32:00):
Oregon State in the lead.
Speaker 11 (32:02):
The late games at Hawaii and the home team just
scored to go up fourteen to three on San Diego
State late first quarter. The Aztecs enter with a seven
and one record, four and oh in the Mountain West.
Also today, SMU with another victory, five and one in
the ACC.
Speaker 12 (32:17):
Seemingly everyone is five and one in the ACC.
Speaker 11 (32:20):
SMU won at Boston College forty five to thirteen BC.
Speaker 12 (32:24):
One and nine.
Speaker 11 (32:25):
Overall, Yukon football is five and oh at home, Ladies
and gentlemen, as thebating fourth quarter comeback against Duke thirty
seven thirty four. North Carolina beat Stanford twenty to fifteen.
Clemson with the home win against Florida State tonight, the
Seminoles are one and five in the ACC. So I
guess not everyone it's five and one in that conference.
(32:47):
West Virginia beat Colorado twenty nine twenty two.
Speaker 2 (32:50):
Yeah, and a sigre. I got a stat for you
since since you just brought it up, ACC wins since
the start of twenty the twenty twenty four season, Yukon
Florida State to put that in your pipe and smoke it.
Put that in your pipe and smoke it.
Speaker 3 (33:06):
Steve de Sager, you figured, how long have you been
saving that.
Speaker 2 (33:09):
Stat since Uh yeah, I was gonna say since about
an hour ago when I saw it on Twitter.
Speaker 11 (33:15):
I was a Yukon football fan. I'd be using that
stat every hour.
Speaker 2 (33:18):
Well, I mean it's actually in all seriousness, it's actually
the ACC's like like what are we doing? ACC, Like
why has the bid not been extended yet? That's another
conversation for another day.
Speaker 11 (33:32):
So Colorado, by the way, I mentioned they lost at
West Virginia Colorado one and six in the Big Twelve Conference.
Arizona beat Kansas Iowa State one at TCU. Houston won
last night at UCF.
Speaker 2 (33:45):

out George Reister, good guy. Always like working with George Reister.
No else. I like Fernando Mendoza Ian, I'll tell you
(34:50):
what play one more time. Fernando Mendoza after getting beat
up behind the line of scrimmage against Penn State. This
is what he said about the physicality of the Penn
State game.
Speaker 9 (35:02):
So yeah, I mean physically I feel good. I would
say I'm a larger quarterback. But the see what the defense,
special teams and offense, especially the off line, where they're
going through battling every play. I can't stay on the
ground no matter how hard the hit is, no matter
how much it hurts.
Speaker 2 (35:17):
When seeing those.
Speaker 3 (35:18):
Guys and ceiling.
Speaker 10 (35:19):
Charlie Becker's over there in my roommate, or seeing Omar
Cooper Junior take a hit on the scene, or seeing you.
Speaker 9 (35:24):
Know, Pat Kugan Khalil Benson battling their butts off. I know,
I'm gonna put my life on the line for that team,
and I'm gonna die on that field. I will never
sum myself out in that instance, and I.
Speaker 2 (35:33):
Would die on that field for my brothers. That was
Fernando Mendoz after the game j Mart big week for
the Jets. I believe it's two first rounders this year,
in three and twenty twenty seven. Obviously it wouldn't applied
to twenty twenty seven.
Speaker 3 (35:46):
Ye know, now I understand why you want why you
wanted to talk about Mendoza again because we had just
done it. But now it makes more sense to me.
Speaker 2 (35:54):
That was gonna be my question. I mean, the Jets,
you know, there's a bigger like a deadline conversation, but
it kind of works well. Like you have a couple
first round picks, you clearly don't have your quarterback. I mean,
you don't have much around him right now, are you?
Speaker 5 (36:09):
So?
Speaker 2 (36:10):
Mendoza should be at least QB one off the board,
if not number one overall. Pick, especially if the Jets
were to have the pick.
Speaker 3 (36:17):
I mean, until you have a quarterback, you got nothing. Yes,
so unless they have some other plan in terms of
getting somebody that's currently in the league, and I don't
mean a Justin fields Tepe, I mean somebody that can
actually come in there for a handful of years. I
know it just sounded like Woody Johnson. I'm not trying
to bury Justin Field, but that was clearly he's not
(36:37):
going to be the future. I think we're I think
we're in a pretty shallow water to say that.
Speaker 4 (36:46):
Without a quarterback. I don't think they have a choice.
Speaker 3 (36:47):
But to take Mendoza unless they don't like him, like,
unless they don't think he's good. And if they don't
think he's good, then don't draft a quarterback in this
draft because there's very little that is going to be
franchised changing and I don't know that he is. It's
the wrong year to have the number one overall pick,
of you the Jets, Like, whoever it is that you
need is probably not going to be there, but he's
(37:11):
probably your best shot.
Speaker 2 (37:13):
Yeah, I think so too. Jets, of course, a one
win team along with the Tennessee Titans, who will not
be taking a quarterback. New Orleans Saints. I don't know
what they're doing. I don't think they have their future
quarterback on the roster, even though they just use what
a second round pick on Tyler Shuck last week. Big picture,
what did you just think of the Jets week? They
trade Sauce Gardner for two first round picks plus eighty Mitchell,
(37:35):
They trade Quinn Williams for a couple picks. You know, you,
me and you producer, Ian, we're texting. I'll just give
my quick take. Is what you just said is just
it's never been more encapsulated than this week for the
New York Jets. Is they basically nailed every pick of significance,
you know, for a two to three year stretch. Garrett Wilson,
Sauce Gardener, Quinn Williams, you know, Brees Hall, You go
(37:57):
on and on down the list except for one, and
that was when they took Zach Wilson with the second
overall pick. They've been scrambling ever since. It is kind
of surreal to me how you can literally nail every pick,
but if you don't have the right quarterback, it doesn't matter.
That's really my biggest takeaway. Obviously there's a Colt single
to this as well, but yeah, that was my big
(38:18):
takeaway from the week, the Jets trading sauce Gardener and
Quinn and Williams for a hahule of draft picks.
Speaker 3 (38:23):
Yeah, I mean, just until you have a quarterback, you
really it doesn't really matter what else you have. It's
just been proven time and time again. And you're right,
like sauce Gardner just went to a team that is
going to be able to do something with him because
they think they have found their quarterback for the next
handful of years. So they're kind of out of that market,
(38:44):
so it puts them in a better spot. But if
you're the Jets, like without a quarterback, you don't have
the luxury of sitting around with the Quentin Williams or
a sauce Gardener or all this and trying to build
around then because you're still not going to win. And
I think that's why the Jets had to do this,
Like you look at you, like, oh my goodness, it's
like they're tearing it down to the studs because as
good as they were in drafting other guys, they couldn't
(39:06):
find the guy to run the team because QB one
is it's a non negotiable. If you don't have a quarterback,
you don't have much and so you get rid of
those assets to try and go find the quarterback. That's
the only reason you do this is to stockpile enough assets.
And if you're the Jets, you probably need a couple
of first rounders because you're gonna screw a few of
them up trying to find the quarterbacks. So you're gonna
(39:28):
hear you're trying to give yourself some mulligans so that
you can maybe draft two or three guys and one
of them turns out to be the guy.
Speaker 2 (39:35):
Well, if there's any silver lining for the Jets, they
did draft the right quarterback in Sam Darnold. It just
took him three or four team. That just took him
three or four teams after he left New York for
the figure it out. So the Jets, Yeah, the Jets.
You know, listen, I'll say this really quick and ian
cover of years. But you know, when I was a kid,
you know, when we're growing up watching you, sometimes you
just think we're talking about it a minute ago. With Indiana,
(39:57):
Indiana football, it's like sometimes you think organizations have bad
luck and then you just realize, no, it starts at
the top and it's just a like how many coaches, gms,
whatever do we have to go through? It's whatdy Johnson
and it's the Jets and they stink and listen to
a point he and brought up earlier this week, like
this is the move you have to make. It is
(40:19):
the smart move. Now, just the big question is can
you hit on a quarterback. The good news is, like
I said, one of the teams at least you're competing
with for the number one overall pick doesn't need a
quarterback in the Tennessee Titans. Fox Sports radio er tors
Jason Martin will come back when we do switch gears
to the NBA. The Lakers are awesome, that's not necessarily
a good thing. Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (40:40):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.
Speaker 2 (40:43):
Welcome he everybody hour two towards mart Fox Sports Radio.
We are broadcasting live from the Fox Sports Radio studios. Yes,
we are live two am Eastern time. As the Sagre
just told you. One college football game left of note
at the Rose a largely Nebraska content. You know, Nebraska
(41:04):
fan contingent is watching Nebraska kind of control the game
against UCLA twenty eight to fourteen. Is the score, Bloom
is officially off the Jerry Newheidel Rose.
Speaker 4 (41:16):
I was about to ask that exact question.
Speaker 2 (41:17):
Yeah, it's fun while I laught at you, fast man.
Speaker 3 (41:21):
But he no matter what, he's got memories that are
gonna last forever.
Speaker 2 (41:25):
Yeah, he's got some locker room videos that are gonna
last on the internet forever too. It's great. It was
fun while it lasted. But uh yeah, Ucla losing this
game twenty eight to fourteen. By the way, let me
say this, like you know and I get it right.
We live in a playoff world and all that. Let's
give a little credit to Nebraska. Dylan Ryola goes down
(41:45):
last week in a game that you know, you I
won't say you had one, but you were in control of.
He goes down with an injury. He got a travel
cross country. You know, you lose just a brutal game
that you were in position to win. You lose your
starting quarterback for the year. You gotta travel across country.
It would have been easy to kind of just fold
(42:05):
it up and not show up ready to play. I mean,
we saw, you know, we saw another team named Penn
State show up not ready to play at the Rose
Bowl and got you know, got punked, and so you know,
we didn't talk about it very much, but just a
quick shout out to to Nebraska for showing up ready
to play with the backup quarterback tonight.
Speaker 3 (42:22):
Yeah, I mean, that's tough, and it's just got to
be such a gut punch to lose the guy. I mean,
the same things happened to Penn State. Obviously lose an
hour even with the season I had already slipped by
them at that point, but at the same time, that
was a blow. And to lose Riyola, who was giving
you such a boost, It'd be very easy to show
(42:43):
up deflated in a game like this, where it just
feels like this season had a lot of promise and
now it's however it ends, it's probably gonna be kind
of middle of the road to what you were hoping
for it to be.
Speaker 4 (42:56):
To show up and.
Speaker 3 (42:57):
Play hard, play small art, and really hold this UCLA
team that has shown the ability to put up some
serious points in recent weeks.
Speaker 4 (43:08):
It is definitely.
Speaker 3 (43:09):
Impressive, Like it's just a good performance and it shows
a lot about the character and the Nebraska football team.
Speaker 2 (43:16):
Nebraska, by the way, gets a bye next week. Then
they go to Penn State and close at Iowa. Penn
State could not hold on against Indiana, and the wildest
game of the day, probably the second wildest game of
the day, Oregon with a late score, beats the Iowha Guys.
We'll get back to college football in a little bit,
J Mart, But do you want to talk NBA. You know,
(43:37):
we don't do a ton of NBA on this show.
We're more of a college football NFL show. But you know,
it was a little bit of a lighter day in
college football. And I think to the point you brought
up earlier, J Mart, I think the field is really
going to start to narrow itself. Next week. We have
Texas at Georgia, we have Oklahoma at Alabama, so we'll
(43:58):
have a lot to react to next week. But I
do want to talk a little bit about the NBA
because I think there's a very interesting situation brewing in
Los Angeles with the Lakers. Now, the Lakers did lose
on Saturday night in Atlanta by twenty to the Hawks.
One twenty two to one oh two was the final score,
but I bring it up because prior to that, the
(44:20):
Lakers had been on a five game winning streak that
included beating the red hot San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday
night at Crypto dot Com Arena in a game where
you were not where you were playing, excuse me without
your second leading scorer, Austin Reeves. But even with the
loss tonight, the Lakers are sitting at seven to three.
You know, it's way too early to talk MVP stuff,
(44:42):
but Luca averaging a cool forty eleven and nine and
a half assists per game, and so I just bring
it up. The Lakers are really, really, really good.
Speaker 9 (44:53):
Now.
Speaker 2 (44:53):
What's interesting is usually when you're really good and you
have a future Hall of Famer that's not playing, it's
usually generally a pretty good thing, right, you know, I
don't know, got a guy couping back who's one of
the two best players in the history of basketball. I
actually think it's the exact opposite. I think we got
a situation brewing in Los Angeles, and you know, we
(45:14):
can get into all the details, but weird offseason Lebron
picks up the one year extension, the Lakers kind of
make it pretty clear to him that they're not really
excited to have him back all that much. And you
have a situation where at some point here in the
not too distant future, he's coming back. And it feels
pretty obvious to me, and I'll defer to you to
see what you have to say. Feels pretty obvious to me.
(45:36):
This is clearly Luka Doncic's team. It's clearly by the
way in the offseason and offseason where he had a
lot of say on the players that are playing around him.
Everybody's playing well, and now you got this, this stark
cloud that is Lebron James kind of lurking get ready
to come back from injury here soon.
Speaker 3 (45:55):
I mean, I hope you're not looking for me to disagree.
It's one hundred percent page has been turned. We already
kind of heard about that during the offseason, right like
it felt like Lebron needed to get out of there
because they were now going to Luca and asking him
about personnel decisions. And let's just be as frank as
(46:15):
we have to be here. Luca and Austin Reeves have
just been great together. There's been chemistry there. They seem
to be having fun. So does the rest of the
team around them. But they've got some legit scorers and
they're just rolling right now. And the one thing that
you never want to do is disrupt chemistry when you
see it in front of you. And boy JJ Reddick,
(46:37):
who probably has that gig because of Lebron James crazy.
It's also a pretty smart guy. And I bet in
the back of his head he's like, oh man, because
he knows that what you're saying is one hundred percent right.
Because here's the problem. When Lebron comes back. Lebron needs
the ball. Okay, you know what Luca needs the ball.
(47:00):
Do you know what Austin Reeves needs as well?
Speaker 4 (47:03):
The ball?
Speaker 2 (47:03):
When you average at thirty one, Yeah, you need the ball.
Speaker 3 (47:05):
You Yeah, and you should like you've got the green light.
Lebron should be the third option offensively, and I just don't.
Speaker 4 (47:12):
See him doing that.
Speaker 3 (47:13):
I don't see Clutch wanting him to do that either.
So they have a big time problem here because really,
like if they were to hear that maybe the injury
was a bit of a setback and he was going
to be missing another month or so, that'd be the
best possible news for them because they could continue to
ride this high and maybe this high is going to
stick because Luca's just that good. I mean, that's why
(47:36):
when that trade happened while we were on air, we
both thought it was fake yep, and Steve di Seger
thought it was fake. We were trying to find something
to like make it look real, and then all of
a sudden we find out it is real. And then
we've done multiple segments on Nico in Dallas and we're
not done. We're going to get there before the end
(47:56):
of this night as well. So like this shouldn't not
be a terrible surprise. The only person this must be
a surprise too was Kendrick Perkins, because Kendrick Perkins came
out of the woodwork to say that the Dallas Mavericks
won that trade.
Speaker 4 (48:10):
He said that before the season.
Speaker 3 (48:11):
He said that towards the end of last year when
he was covering for Lebron and saying it was all
Lucas fault, Luke can't play defense and all this other
kind of stuff. Let me tell you who didn't win
the trade, Dallas. Look at the Mavericks right now, and
then let me throw one other thing to you. If
you believe that there was no conspiracy involved, that the
trade was.
Speaker 4 (48:31):
On the up and up. The draft was up on
the up and up. The lottery was on the up
and up.
Speaker 3 (48:36):
Nico Harrison traded Luka Doncic for Anthony Davis, one player
in one draft pick, Max Christy and a draft pick.
Didn't get Austin Reeves, didn't get another first round pick
for him, and at the time that he made the trade,
he didn't think he was gonna get Cooper Flag either. Yeah,
(48:57):
that's got to be the worst trade I've ever seen
in sports. It's certainly up there. Yeah, we'll talk about
the we got, we got more Nico Harrison takes here.
Just just stick with us here with the Luca Lebron stuff.
It's fascinating.
Speaker 2 (49:14):
First of all, the JJ Reddick part, to me is
the most interesting. And I remember us talking about this
in the spring, because I seem to remember, Uh, it
was at some point in probably late April early May,
after the Lakers had been eliminated in the first round
of the playoffs, of a Luca rob Polinka JJ Reddick meeting,
and I was just like, man, JJ, you know, stabbing,
(49:35):
stabbing in the back, the guy that got him the job.
Speaker 3 (49:37):
But well, honestly, good for him because he wants to
keep the.
Speaker 2 (49:40):
Job the job exactly.
Speaker 3 (49:41):
No.
Speaker 2 (49:42):
And and I'll say this, it is going to be
very interesting. By the way, Lebron is uh been cleared
for contact uh you know, contact activities reevaluated in a
week or two. So I agree with everything you said.
And I guess where I'm curious is this? Like, First
of all, I I think you know, there are people
(50:02):
that are questioning even the injury to begin with. You know,
how injured is he really?
Speaker 4 (50:06):
You know, I mean as sciatica?
Speaker 3 (50:08):
What was it? Charles Barkley said he's got an old
man injury.
Speaker 2 (50:10):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I mean he's forty one years old.
Speaker 3 (50:12):
So I mean I had some scietic I had some
siedic nerve problems and all this other kind of stuff.
But I'm not trying to play NBA basketball. And look,
if he does have it, he is old. He's been
playing a ton of basketball in his life.
Speaker 2 (50:22):
Let me ask you this, and I know there's no
way to answer it. Do you think there's a possibility
that he never steps on the court as a Laker?
Speaker 1 (50:29):
Ever?
Speaker 2 (50:29):
Again? I was thinking about No, Okay.
Speaker 3 (50:33):
I don't. I I just can't imagine it because it
would be such a blow to his ego. I just
think somehow, behind behind closed doors, he would find a
way for that not to happen. He also has to
find a soft landing spots for us side.
Speaker 2 (50:46):
Well, I was gonna, well, I was gonna say, is
there a trade market for him? Like I I there
probably is, but it probably isn't as robust as he thinks.
And I believe he has a no trade clause. I
could be totally wrong on that, but I just bring
it up because you know, we know he was pushing
for Cleveland last last offseason. They didn't seem to have
(51:08):
very much interest, and so you start looking at legitimate
options and it's like, how many how many places would
he want to go to even if they were interested
in trading for him. And that's under the assumption that
some of these places would be interested in trading for him.
So I think you're right. I think he will play
with the Lakers again. But you know, one I do
(51:30):
wonder if I do wonder, like you said, if they
kind of very delicately ease him back in, because you know,
listen to the bottom line is it's a blow to
his ego as well, right, is that the team is
better off without you. The team doesn't need you all that,
and so, yeah, I think he plays for the Lakers. Again,
(51:50):
let me put it this way. I don't think it's
a zero point zero zero zero percent chance that he
never plays for the Lakers just because it is getting weird.
And oh, by the way, maybe the opposite happens and
they go on a little bit of a losing streak
and it's clear that they still need him. But to me,
right now, it looks like they are better off without him.
They have fully transitioned into Luka doncicic era and it's
(52:10):
time for everybody to move on, although I don't know
that they'll really be able to until after this season.
Speaker 3 (52:16):
Yeah, so about the little I mean, I think just
trying to think about it from Lebron's perspective, and this
is just me if I were Lebron James the spot.
Speaker 4 (52:24):
I'm not, and this may not be how he thinks,
but if it's me.
Speaker 3 (52:28):
Right now, I'm sitting at home trying to figure out
how do I want this to end in terms of
my legacy in the NBA. I can't go out like this.
I can't go out watching somebody else completely take over
the team. And then me be ushered out of town
and that just be like the last that I'm heard
from he Now, I think, I think the mode now
(52:48):
becomes less let's go win a championship somewhere, and now
becomes where can I have the farewell tour that I want?
Where was?
Speaker 2 (52:57):
I think that's part of why he wanted to end
up in Cleveland, right he thought, Yeah.
Speaker 3 (53:00):
I would think so that would be the easiest place
that he could land. And then the team that takes
him on is going to be a team that just
wants to sell tickets. I don't think that you're bringing
him in to be a championship leading piece, like he
could be part of something I guess, but I don't
think that he can. I don't think he can play
second or third banana. I don't think that that would
(53:21):
work from a chemistry perspective. So the team that wants
to bring him on is just one that wants to
sell tickets because you have a few more opportunities to
say I saw Lebron James play in person, and once
that chance is over, that chance is over.
Speaker 4 (53:36):
So I do think that becomes kind of the crux.
Speaker 3 (53:39):
It's like, well, we can make some money at the turnstiles,
even though we're probably not going to win a championship,
which is kind of amazing to say about Lebron, But look,
when you stick around as long as he has, yeah,
because he's been healthy and all this, eventually this is
just gonna happen. It's not like he's a bad basketball player.
But at this time, you're bringing in somebody that's closer
to being Aaron Rodgers in terms of a chemistry problem
(54:00):
if it's not the right situation, and that really is
what it is, like, I mean, you think about think
about what happened in Green Bay, and then finally they
were just like, dude, get this guy out of here.
We're gonna turn the page. And they may have not
gotten it right right because we don't know what Jordan
Love really is. I'm not really too high on him
right now. But at the same time, they had to
(54:20):
finally turn that page. And Aaron Rodgers had just kind
of worn out his welcome with the front office. He'd
pushed too hard, he had gotten his way and had
not been able to pay dividends. And I think we're
in a similar spot with Lebron James right now.
Speaker 2 (54:33):
It is fascinating and I guess in theory somebody would
want him for that argument of selling tickets. But again,
you know, I mean, where's he gonna end, Like, you know,
like the teams that need to sell tickets are not
a place that he wants to end for the legacy
that he is hoping to have. So you know, it's
(54:54):
just a fascinating deal. Really quick, do we want to
spend half a second on the Dallas Maverick. I mean,
to their credit, they did beat the Washington Wizards tonight
to improve to three and seven. They no longer have
the worst record in the NBA. That belongs, by the way,
to Washington, Brooklyn and Indiana all tied with one win apiece.
(55:16):
The New Orleans Pelicans riding up the Caboos in the
West that two and seven overall, by the way, New
Orleans Pelicans, Like, I don't want to make this a
Pelican segment. What a disaster. I mean, nobody cares it's
New Orleans. But it's like how many times have they
tried to reboot that thing one around Zion Williamson. But
you know, they had the CJ. McCollums stuff, they had whatever,
(55:38):
And it's just they're two and seven. It's I don't know,
it's not a New Orleans Repelican segment. But your boy
Nico Harrison sitting at three and seven as the Mavericks
do beat the Washington Wizards on Saturday Night.
Speaker 3 (55:48):
Yeah, well good for him. That's just it's not gonna
get better. I don't know that they have the right mix.
I mean there's one there's one other thing about the
MAVs that hasn't really been said as of yet, and
that is Klay Thompson might be done, might be look
at his numbers during the break. We can come back
and tell you exactly what. Let me just tell you
(56:09):
they're not very good at all. And you've got Cooper
flag and in year one and there's nothing around him.
There's there's nothing there. Anthony Davis has already been hurt
a little bit more. You just don't have a ton
there without Kyrie. And it's just obviously a rookie year
is going to be tough anyway generally because you're not
going to a pretty good team. But this was supposed
(56:31):
to be like man, he just he won the lottery
because he went to a much no pun intended, but
he won the lottery because he he went to a
team that had a couple of pieces and all this
other stuff. They just look bad. It just it's amazing
how far off they have fallen. And again, consider if
you don't want to think that there was some kind
of skullduggery behind the scenes that Nico Harrison made this
trade not thinking that they were going to have Cooper Flag.
(56:53):
How bad would the Dallas Mavericks be right now if
they had just gotten you know, some random like number
six draft pick or something like that, as opposed to
a guy that you think could at least help help
carry your your team, your your franchise for a while
after that, Like, that's a it's a it's a rough
(57:13):
time right now in Dallas.
Speaker 2 (57:15):
By the way, Klay Thompson averaging seven point six points,
two point seven, two point nine rebounds excuse me in
nine games played and seven starts. Also for those scoring
at home, he is shooting, let's see here, twenty six
percent from three point lands. So yeah, Klay Thompson. Great career,
(57:36):
all time, great, Probably time to hang it up. He'll
be thirty six in February. Cooper Flag, by the way,
not playing terribly, but all right, Fox Sports Radio heritors

(58:43):
Jahn Morant shocking not getting along with people in Memphis.
We'll discuss that next. Before we do, though, let's get
it over the news desk de Sega. What's trending?
Speaker 11 (58:52):
There is one late game in the NBA going on
in La it's the Suns leading at the Clippers seventy
nine seventy one late in the third.
Speaker 12 (58:59):
No, no quiet Leonard in this one.
Speaker 11 (59:00):
Cleveland and Denver each one at home. Now to the
college football late night games. We have about thirty seconds
to go on Fox TV. At the Rose Bowl, Nebraska
was up twenty eight to seven. They're holding on twenty
eight twenty one at UCLA Nebraska with the ball late,
ten minutes to go on FS one. UNLV trying to
go to seven and two, has a big lead at
(59:22):
Colorado State forty two to ten mid third quarter. Oregon
State just two and seven this year, holding on against
winless Sam Houston seventeen fourteen. And the late games in Hawaii,
under two minutes to go till halftime, the home team
lead San Diego State twenty four to six. The Aztecs
entered with a seven and one record, four and zero
in Mountain West play. I would say, I hope they
(59:44):
enjoyed the sun there in Honolulu, but it's raining. Of course,
it's like seventy five eighty degrees in raining, but raining.
Speaker 2 (59:50):
It's not what Iowa or Notre Dame was. Did you
see Notre Dame? Notre Dame tonight look like the most
miserable place on planet.
Speaker 11 (59:56):
It was snow by the second half. Tenth rank Notre
Dame forty nine to ten, ten over Navy, speaking of
the service academies, Air Force threw for forty one yards
tonight and won the game at San Jose State twenty
six to sixteen. Because on the ground, Air Force is
a team sixty three carries for over two hundred and
(01:00:17):
sixty yards rushing somewhat impressive. We've got earlier top ten results.
Ohio State and Texas A and M each won to
stay undefeated. Number two Indiana ten and oh after winning
at Penn State twenty seven to twenty four on a
late TD pass. Wins for Alabama, Georgia and Ole Miss.
Top ten matchup at Texas Tech went to the Red
(01:00:38):
Raiders over BYU handily twenty nine to seven. Ninth ranked
Oregon won in the rain at Iowa eighteen sixteen on
a field goal in the final seconds. Wake Forest won
at number fourteen Virginia sixteen to nine. More on this
in fifteen minutes. Col won in overtime at fifteenth ranked
Louisville twenty nine twenty six, Sixteenth rank Vanderbilt was an
(01:00:59):
over ten time winner against Auburn forty five to thirty eight.
Vandy had trailed seventeen to three late in the first half.
SEC Network points out that Vanderbilt is eight and two
for the first time since nineteen forty one. They won
a game where Diego Pavia had three hundred yards passing
(01:01:19):
and one hundred yards rushing. A Vandy player hasn't done
that since nineteen forty six. And they also won a
game where they allowed thirty eight points. Vanderbilt in its
football history, what was the record all time when allowing
thirty eight points or more in a game. It was
oh and one seventy until the win against Auburn. Today,
(01:01:41):
Miami beat Syracuse thirty eight to ten. Wisconsin at home
upset number twenty three Washington thirteen to ten. In college
hoops number fifteen, Alabama won at number five ranked Saint
John's one O three ninety six. Bama will host number
one per Due on Thursday. NHL wins for Montreal and
Carolina each at home. The Big MLB Award results come
(01:02:03):
out next week Monday. Rookies of the Year. We'll find
out the Managers of the Year on Tuesday, Wednesday, Say
Young Awards Thursday the MVPs and in Major League Soccer,
the playoffs going on. First round. Miami eliminated Nashville with
a four to ninhing victory Lionel Messi two goals in
the first half. Cincinnati eliminated Columbus two to one. Minnesota
(01:02:23):
eliminated Seattle in the first round on penalty kicks.
Speaker 2 (01:02:26):
Back to you, thank you very much, Steve Disager. This
is Fox Sports Radio, Fox Sports Saturday and to Sunday,
depending on where you are, air towards Jason Martin broadcasting
live from the Fox Sports Radio studios. It's early in
the NBA season, but hey, we can talk a little
NBA Lakers seven and three, but they got themselves a
Lebron problem. And unfortunately for the Memphis Grizzlies, pretty much
(01:02:51):
like every year for the last three or four, they've
got themselves a Jahn Morant problem. So John Morant is
the star in Memphis, we all know that, but with
the coaching change that happened late last season, he is
not very happy with the state of the organization. Okay,
so yeah, I know, shocker, right, Memphis four and six.
(01:03:13):
Joh did did take a one game suspension, basically for
mouthing off to the new head coach. I know it's
unprofessional of me. I don't know how to pronounce the
guy's name. He's from Finland. All I do know is
this jmart I was actually on air, I want to say,
maybe filling in for Doug Gottlieb last year. Last spring,
(01:03:35):
Taylor Jenkins fired with nine games to go and Memphis
in the five spot, and all I heard was, well,
you know, they really like this this new coach, and
you know they've they've really been impressed by what he's
done in previous stops and think he's the guy. And
I said it at the time, and frankly, nothing has changed.
(01:03:56):
Is if John Rant's your star, I don't really care
who the coaches, it's not gonna work. The four and
six Memphis Grizzlies suspended Ja Morant for one game for
conduct detrimental to the team this week.
Speaker 3 (01:04:08):
It is astonishing how close John Morant was to maybe
be in the new face of the NBA going forward.
He had everything behind him. He even had all the
media saying put it behind him. He had former players
saying put the league behind him. It was outrageous. How
good he was like two three years ago, and you
(01:04:30):
look at it now, like every one of his stats
has dropped. Obviously the off the court stuff, but the
on the court attitude, everything's falling apart. You end up
trading Desmond baying Away. You got nothing out of that
Memphis run pretty much at all, except a little bit
of fun if you're a Memphis fan for a year
or two and since then, Like this, to me, I
(01:04:52):
don't even know how to say it, but like John
Morant kind of came out of nowhere. And I don't
mean any NBA. He came out of nowhere at Murray Date,
like all. I mean, he hadn't played basketball's whole life
or anything like that. He took off like a rocket ship.
And I remember before that draft saying, I'm on record
saying John Morant is going to have a far better career,
(01:05:12):
I believe than Zion and I based that on his
injuries more than anything else, because they went one and two.
But now you're looking at it and it's like, Ja
Morant now, to me, is closer to being out of
the league than he is being a Hall of Famer.
Like that, that's how far he has he has fallen.
He's put the wrong people around him, he listened to
(01:05:35):
the wrong advice. It's almost like he got too much
too soon and didn't know how to do how to
deal with it, and didn't have the right support system
around him to just make sure that everything was brought
along carefully. Like I'm not a math guy, That's why
I'm talking about sports for a living. But if a
(01:05:57):
calculus professor came up to me and tried to teach
me calculous and I didn't know how to do long
division yet, then things would go very, very poorly because
I would understand nothing, and it might even lead me
to give up, but it would lead to a lot
of very bad decisions, confusion, all this other kind of stuff.
Sometimes you got to bring people on slow. And I
just think Jaw exploded so fast that I don't even
(01:06:22):
know that Jaw understood it. And all of a sudden,
he's got every camera in his face, he's got shoe deals,
he's got all this money, and he's got everybody telling
him how great he is. And I just feel like
maybe it went to his head a little bit and
he didn't have somebody to keep him in check. It's
a very sad story because the talent and watching him
play was absolutely extraordinary for a short period of time.
(01:06:45):
But everything that you just laid out about Taylor Jenkins
and about the chemistry issues and all that, it's one
hundred percent right, and it's just it's sad because I
don't know that it's fixable at this point.
Speaker 2 (01:06:57):
Yeah, And I mean, I think a couple of things
here won little context because I was actually kind of
intrigued as I looked into it. I guess this new coach,
you know, he's had success at a couple stops in Europe,
and his big thing is kind of like basically like
hockey line substitutions, you know, like four or five guys
at a time, and you know it's worked everywhere else.
And that was I guess, you know, a unique theory
(01:07:19):
that you know intrigued the Memphis Grizzlies, and basically he's
on record are saying like everywhere I've gone, people have
questioned it, and everywhere I've gone, it's worked out, and
we know essentially like just because we've and I actually
think it's actually kind of interesting. The more I looked
into it, he was basically like, you know, just because
we've done, We've done a certain thing one way throughout
(01:07:41):
the history of basketball doesn't mean that it's the right way.
And so anyway he has faced this pushback before. That
was clearly John Rant's frustration, basically saying like I can't
get into a rhythm. And I think what was the
other kind of interesting thing is that? And this may
speak to your point about being of the league what's
next for him? And I know you don't mean like
(01:08:02):
literally out of the league like tomorrow, but what was
interesting was the Grizzlies backed up the coach and it
was John Morant that got suspended. And I do find
the comment that you made closer to being out of
the league than in the Hall of Fame interesting because
it's not working right now in Memphis now. It's not
to say that maybe at some point he doesn't buy in,
(01:08:24):
although to your point, we have like a six year
track record that he's not gonna listen to anybody. But
I also like it's the weird thing where you know,
he could have been the face of the league and
now the opposite is true as well, like what is
the trade market for John Morant? You know, like like
if he's not going to get along with this coach.
And I know it's maybe a little bit early to
(01:08:45):
presume this, but it's like, like you said, they're not
They didn't totally tear it down when they traded Desmond Bane,
but they're not really in position to compete and so
doesn't get along with the coach. So then the question
becomes they're kind of in the middle ground as an organization.
But then it's like, I mean, let's just call spat
a spade. I mean, would pick a team would you
(01:09:06):
want to trade for John Morant? Because I think everything
that you said, I don't think this guy is just,
oh he needs a fresh start somewhere else. I think
it's he's stuck in his ways, he doesn't want to
listen to anybody, and like right now, like I don't
know any other way to put it, he's just a loser,
Like he's a losing basketball player, he's got a losing attitude,
(01:09:29):
he's I don't know, there's just there's not much redeemable
about him right now as a as anything. And I'm
not saying he's a terrible human being. And I'm sure
you know people who know him better than I do
would would say otherwise, But like, I don't know that
he's tradeable, but he's not helping Memphis win. The organization
is now taking the coach a side on this. I
(01:09:49):
just think it's a totally unique, very interesting situation, the
likes of which I don't know that we've really ever
seen here in recent memory.
Speaker 3 (01:09:57):
Yeah, I mean, I think all that's really well said.
And the point again is like you're bringing, at least
for now, you're bringing him out content. You're kind of
bringing a cancer. I hate to say that about anybody.
And he's still very young, and there's potentially still a
lot of basketball left in him, a lot of talent
left in him, but right now he's broken. He's fundamentally
(01:10:19):
broken as a teammate. With the organization supporting the coach,
and even it seems like you don't even have a
lot of players coming out defending John in any way,
shape or form. At this point, you're bringing in somebody
that could wreck your locker room, that also might not
be able to get it done on the floor the
(01:10:39):
way you need him to, and is gonna be out
for himself. It feels like I think I don't know
what the fix is, Like, I don't want him on
my team right now.
Speaker 4 (01:10:50):
I would love to see him get fixed and come
back and all this work.
Speaker 3 (01:10:53):
But you know what, we said that same thing after
the incident with the video and all that. We said, Man,
this could be the most amazing redemption story. And I'm
saying the same thing now. That's what I mean a
few years later, in twenty twenty five, Like, I still
want that to be true, but I'm starting to become
a bit more skeptical that that's in the cards. Well.
Speaker 2 (01:11:16):
And I just think if he hasn't learned from everything
just in the last two or three years, like what
makes anyone think he's gonna learn? I mean, if he's
still you know, basically throwing a temper tantrum in the
locker room to the point that he has to be suspended.
Like I said, it's not like, oh, if you trade
him here or you trade him there, you know, like
(01:11:38):
there are plenty of examples in sports history where a
fresh start is good for everybody, and it certainly might
be good for the Memphis Grizzlies, But I don't know
that like him just going somewhere else is what he needs.
I think he needs an attitude reboot. I think he
needs a reboot of a lot of things. And it's, just,
like I said, a unique situation because I think people
(01:11:59):
forget yet, Like even I'm actually a little surprised even
just reading this. He's he just turned twenty six years old. Yeah, yeah,
I thought he was actually a little bit older. He
can be redeemable, but the first place that it starts
is with him, you know.
Speaker 3 (01:12:14):
Yeah, It's it's like I said, it's sad. I don't
want to give up on him. I just I'm skeptical
right now. And I think I'm speaking now more more
or less like how a team would have to like
what would it take to bring him in? And do
you have what it would take? Do you have the
structures in place to where you could bring him in
(01:12:35):
and potentially help him out. I just think he needs
something off the floor, and I don't know where that
comes from, and I don't know whether or not somebody
can get through to him that. Look, you know, your
future hangs into balance here. You need to get this
thing together. You need to get this thing right. You're
you're too good a player, and there's there's still so
(01:12:56):
much left in you.
Speaker 4 (01:12:58):
But right now I'm just I don't know what the
fix is.
Speaker 3 (01:13:02):
I don't know what the answer is, but I'm saddened
by it because it does feel like it's it's a
huge missed opportunity of somebody that that just seemed to
be on a rocket ship of a trajectory.
Speaker 2 (01:13:16):
Memphis Grizzlies sitting at four and six overall, they did
take care on Friday night of J Mart's Dallas Mavericks.
You know, John Morrett versus Nico Harrison, John mort gets
the upper hand. He did play on Friday night twenty
one points, five rebounds, thirteen assists, thirty two minutes of
(01:13:38):
play for him, So he did play the most minutes
of any Memphis Grizzly. So maybe the page has been turned,
or maybe it was just the Dallas Mavericks or that
bad that was an NBA Cup game. By the way,
J Martin, I know you. I know you have your
tab at home. You know of all of them.
Speaker 3 (01:13:55):
I've got my brackets. Yes, I don't even know if
there are brackets at this point. It's like I heard
it was play or something like that, and it's so exciting.
You know that Kawhi is not going to play, and
you got load management happening during this thing, and Josh
Getty's getting his ankles completely shattered by DeAndre Hunter. Like
NBA Cup is in full effect right now.
Speaker 2 (01:14:15):
NBA Cup is in full effect. You know who never
takes load management, Steve de Sager. He'll be back next
to give you a recap of a busy Saturday in sports.
Fox Sports Radio, Welcome back, everybody, Fox Sports Radio er
tors Jason Martin broadcasting live from the Fox Sports Radio studios.
(01:14:39):
It is twelve forty eight Eastern Time, and as we
do every week around this time, let's get it over
the news desk. Steve de Sager, What is trending?
Speaker 3 (01:14:48):
Sir?
Speaker 11 (01:14:48):
What a finish in college football today? A game you
probably didn't hear about. It was number two ranked Montana
in the FCS at home, trying to hold on to
a victory against a red shirt freshman quarterback from Eastern Washington,
which scored with a minute to go to get close,
recovered the onside kick with no timeouts, drove down to
(01:15:12):
the five yard line and with under ten seconds to
go out of timeouts, down five, so they can't kick
a field goal.
Speaker 12 (01:15:19):
This on Script's TV.
Speaker 2 (01:15:21):
Scopper Well Spike in Finals.
Speaker 4 (01:15:24):
At the ball ten, that's game over.
Speaker 2 (01:15:28):
They can't stop it.
Speaker 11 (01:15:30):
The red shirt freshman quarterback went to spike the ball
and the football flew out of his hands for a fumble,
and by the time a teammate fell on it, the
clock had run out. And that's how Eastern Washington loses
twenty nine to twenty five at number two ranked Montana.
Speaker 12 (01:15:46):
Wow, that would be tough to get over.
Speaker 11 (01:15:48):
A great week for the University of South Florida football team. Now,
when the first college football playoff rankings came out this
past Tuesday, notable that there was kind of a line
of d marcation outside the top ten. Yeah, Notre Dame's
number ten, they'd be in the playoff right now, but
Texas and Oklahoma would each be out as of now
(01:16:09):
at number eleven and twelve. Because Virginia, as an ACC champ,
would get in even though it's not a top ten team,
and Memphis was labeled the best of the group of
five teams, it would get in.
Speaker 2 (01:16:22):
Well.
Speaker 11 (01:16:23):
Then Memphis lost at home last night to Tulane thirty
eight thirty two. Memphis had been eight and one. South
Florida looking good now at seven and two. They won
Thursday night at home easily against ut San Antonio, and
James Madison is now eight and one after winning at
Marshall today. Meanwhile, Yukon, how about this stat on their
(01:16:44):
notes You're drop go ahead. It's incredible that he has
twenty five touchdown passes and no interceptions, Joe Fanano. I
have not watched a Yukon game, I will admit this year.
But anyone who has twenty five tds and no touchdown,
no interceptions, AP says, to do that in the first
(01:17:04):
ten games of your team season hasn't been done since
Marcus Mariota at Oregon over a decade.
Speaker 2 (01:17:10):
You're saying he's gonna win the Heisman potentially, yes.
Speaker 11 (01:17:12):
Exactly, that's you might as well just forget that Indiana
who what was his name?
Speaker 12 (01:17:16):
I don't even remember.
Speaker 2 (01:17:17):
This is who cares by the way, you cut all
three losses in overtime.
Speaker 11 (01:17:22):
That's right at Syracuse overtime, at Delaware, overtime, double overtime
at Rice.
Speaker 3 (01:17:27):
You know they'se still count as losses, right they do?
Speaker 2 (01:17:30):
Remember Less Miles when the year they made the championship
game is a two loss team. He's like, we have
zero losses in regulation. That's right, That was his argument.
This isn't the NHL. Just for the record, you don't
get points for that. Cal won and overtime at fifteenth
ranked Louisville twenty nine to twenty six. For California, that
snaps a fourteen game losing streak against ranked opponents. It
(01:17:53):
had been five years since they've beaten a ranked team.
That was against Oregon, So who are the worst two
on that list. As far as active losing streaks for
Power Conference teams against ranked opponents, well, Nebraska has lost
twenty nine straight against ranked opponents, Rutgers thirty nine straight
losses against ranked opponents, and yet Rutgers at home beat
(01:18:15):
on ranked Maryland today thirty five twenty Maryland one to five.
In the Big Ten, Kentucky at home slaughtered Florida thirty
eight to seven. Kentucky had been one and five in
the SEC. This margin of victory for Kentucky over the
Gators their largest in this series since nineteen fifty and
in fact, SEC Network said it's the first loss for
(01:18:37):
Florida football against an unranked team by thirty points or
more since nineteen seventy. Number four Alabama, meanwhile, has won
seventeen straight at home beat LSU twenty to nine. Tonight,
LSU Tigers ten penalties two fumbles. They were down seventeen
to three at the half. Bama as a team twenty
six carries just fifty six yards rushing. But this season
(01:18:58):
Alabama has won eight straight and we'll host Oklahoma next week.
Number five Georgia's eight and one after winning at Mississippi
State forty one. Twenty one Gunner stocked in three touchdown passes.
This was a thirty eight to seven lead in the
third quarter. Georgia had over three hundred yards rushing. Mississippi
State one and five in the SEC. Next Saturday night,
Georgia hosts Texas. Number six, Ole Miss nine and one
(01:19:21):
after scheduling the Citadel Shame on you, forty nine. Nothing
is the final. Mississippi seven to zero at home. Citadel
as a team had five first downs, eight punts, three
for eight passing for twenty three yards. Ole Miss had
over four hundred and fifty yards passing and thirty five
first downs. Notre Dame in the snow ranked tenth, beat
(01:19:41):
Navy forty nine ten Tonight. Jeremiah Love thirteen carries ninety
four yards and two scores Miami ranked eighteenth now seven
and two after beating Syracuse thirty eight to ten. Syracuse
one and six in the ACC Hurricanes only led fourteen
to three early in the third quarter. Miami's defense did
have seven sacks. Wisconsin had lost six straight. Their offense
(01:20:04):
today on twelve drives, had only twelve first downs. Badgers
still beat number twenty three Washington thirteen to ten. Huskies
had led ten to three in the third quarter and
then didn't score another point. Syracuse. By the way, that
only ACC win double digit victory at Clemson. But like
Carolina Tarhels, I don't know if you got them in.
They won a second straight games, not Terrle, Stafford and.
Speaker 12 (01:20:25):
Charlotte's one and eight. That's one of the wins for
the tar Hills.
Speaker 2 (01:20:28):
All right, we'll come back more riveting college football talk.
No UNC, no Syracuse, but plenty of Bama, Indiana and more.
Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (01:20:37):
Don't listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.
Speaker 2 (01:20:41):

to say about a busy week in college football, the
(01:21:03):
NFL hits Week ten and much much more. By the way,

Radio on YouTube and subscribe. All right, j Mart, Week
(01:21:28):
eleven of the college football season is in the books,
you know not, this is not It was just one
of those weeks where we were expected.
Speaker 3 (01:21:40):
You know.
Speaker 2 (01:21:41):
I even texted you, I said, you know, Georges on
the road, you know, you go on and on down
the list. Ore Agon a tough place to play at Iowa,
Indiana going to Penn State, which we know at the
very least has NFL talent all over their roster. I
don't know, It's just it was quiet week. It was
a fun one week. It was a good week. But
(01:22:02):
that that earth shattering moment you know that we've been
waiting for, you know, that we've had basically every other week,
whether it was Oregon winning at Penn State, Texas A
and M destroying LSU, Florida State beating Alabama in week one.
I mean, there just wasn't that crazy signature moment. Doesn't
mean it wasn't a great day, but kind of par
for the courses we hit the final three weeks of
(01:22:25):
the regular season. Cannot believe we're down there three weeks here,
j Mark. But everything just kind of went the way
that we kind of thought it would go.
Speaker 3 (01:22:33):
Yeah, and look, you're gonna get those weeks. I mean,
eventually some of these good teams have to actually show
themselves and they have to escape, and that's.
Speaker 4 (01:22:39):
What you got.
Speaker 3 (01:22:40):
The very the positive is you got some drama, right
Indiana escape, but you got a great catch and a
great final drive, and then you had just a solid
finish for Oregon to where they were able to kick
that field goal and get out of Iowa.
Speaker 4 (01:22:58):
You get the teams that you still want to see.
Speaker 3 (01:23:01):
I believe, in the College Football Playoff, they get out
with wins, but you're still drawn in to watch the games.
And then you see some of the other teams that
are a little bit lower like a Virginia for example.
Louisville teams like that that kind of winnow themselves out
and then.
Speaker 4 (01:23:17):
You have a pretty cool finish.
Speaker 3 (01:23:20):
I think the I think Vanderbilt Auburn gave you some
some fireworks there. So it was just kind of more
of a routine Saturday, but you at least got some
late game heroics, late game dramatics. So it was just
it was just it was a solid day at college football,
maybe not a banner day.
Speaker 2 (01:23:38):
Top ten drop well, the top twenty five dropped this week.
Ohio State number one, Indiana two A and M three,
Alabama four, Georgia ol miss BYU, Texas Tech, Oregon, Notre
Dame rounding out the top ten. Did anything stand out
to you about the top twenty five that dropped this week?
It felt like for the most part, uh didn't really
feel like there was a lot of you know, anger
(01:23:59):
or fresh with the rankings as they came out.
Speaker 3 (01:24:03):
Yeah, not terrible other than just Notre Dame being above
Miami is a little bit tough, But I think there
are some other factors that went into that as well
as thinks.
Speaker 2 (01:24:14):
That is that the factor they're not going to be
a good.
Speaker 3 (01:24:16):
Part of it. I think it's I do think that's
part of it. But I mean, if you've got if
you look at it from a record standpoint and the
fact that they beat them and all that, like, I
can understand why you would wring your hands at that,
but also by the end of the year, I feel
like that was gonna work itself out. But I don't
disagree with what you're saying. I don't know how much
you need to reward Miami. I think the question is
just was was notre Dame over seeded a little bit?
(01:24:41):
That might be really the only argument. The only other
argument was do you put Texas A and M above Indiana?
I would not have, although I think I would this week.
I think because of even though they won that game
and it was a tough environment. I think it's also
pretty impressive for Texas A and M to go spank
Missouri on the road by three touchdowns, and Missouri again
(01:25:03):
just they don't beat anybody that's ranked. That's that's kind
of their problem, and that that to me, would be
concerning if I was looking at Eli Drinkwitz to become
my next coach somewhere else. Missouri, it's not like they're
stacked with talent or anything like that. But eventually, like
you're not bringing them in there to beat the teams
everybody else can be you. You're bringing them in there
(01:25:23):
to beat everybody else, and you have not seen that
from Missouri at all.
Speaker 2 (01:25:29):
I see Owen six against ranked teams the last two seasons.
Eli Trikowitz asked about it after the game. I give
him credit for being transparent. He said, Yeah, there's some
pretty good teams that we've played. They are good teams,
but I don't do a good enough job coaching. So
credit to him for kind of you know, whether he
really believes that or not, you know, saying, you know,
(01:25:51):
putting it on his shoulders real quick.
Speaker 4 (01:25:54):
Again.
Speaker 2 (01:25:54):
I don't know that there's like a crazy take here,
but I think it's the same take we've had the
last like five, six, seven, eight weeks. Texas A and
M just coming in just steamrolling everyone. You know, I
don't know, you know, I'll say this, and I think
we've talked about this through the the you know, the
last couple of weeks is that I wasn't somebody that
(01:26:16):
necessarily thought that we needed to expand the playoff. But
I will say as we get deeper into this portal
and il Era, there's so much parody. Where there's four
or five really good teams at the top of the SEC,
there's at least three in the big ten. You know, listen,
I don't know how much of the Texas Tech Game
you you got to watch today, That defense at the
very least is legit. I mean by you could do
(01:26:38):
absolutely nothing, Notre Dame's good whatever. So I just bring
it up because you know, the sport at the top
is awesome. And I guess why I brought it up
with A and M is like, I don't know if
they're they should be two three, if they're even the
best team in the SEC, But like the way they
just kick the crap out of everyone week after week,
(01:26:58):
no letdown. You thought maybe after the LSU went nope,
came right out, took care of business. Great story going
on in aguland.
Speaker 3 (01:27:07):
Yeah, yeah, again, I think that the more you watch them,
the more it's just they're just kind of proven their
bona fides and they've still got a couple of tough
games obviously left to go. But Marcel Reed only has
nine incompletions in the game. And then you look at
the Texas Tech BYU story as well, Like I feel
pretty good about putting Texas Tech in before the season,
(01:27:30):
Like I got a couple I had South Carolina in there,
so it's not like I've bad in a thousand had
Penn State like everybody else did. But Texas Tech does
seem like like, I don't know that they were their
championship worthy, but they're definitely proving themselves to be playoff worthy.
Speaker 2 (01:27:43):
Right to ask you a question because I think this
is going to be a conversation with them if they
keep winning make the playoff? Do you care at all
about all the NIL stuff? Real quick that you know,
they've been very vocal that you know, there are multiple
articles today, you know, raw Stellinger said that as a
as an athletic department, they raised forty nine million dollars
(01:28:06):
in NIL and obviously it didn't all go to football,
but this was kind of, you know, the last year
where in theory it's kind of an unlimited cap, you know,
Like I said, multiple articles over the last couple of days,
and I think their stance is one, it was a
unique situation where it's basically an uncapped world, and two,
basically everybody does it we're just the ones, you know,
(01:28:30):
Like we're just the ones that aren't afraid to admit that, yes,
we are spending money. I guess, just my question, do
you care? Does it bother you?
Speaker 4 (01:28:40):
Do you care?
Speaker 2 (01:28:41):
Does it matter? Because that is going to be a
story if they keep winning.
Speaker 3 (01:28:46):
No mean either not in this era. I mean, if
they want to, they're just taking advantage of the resources
that they have, which is the expectation you would think
of anybody that was trying to compete for a championship.
I think it would be insane to assume anything else.
Really at this point, Like, I'm not bothered by it
at all. If they keep on winning, all they're doing
(01:29:07):
is proving this concept and it's just gonna lead to
more of this. But this is where we're going anyway.
Speaker 2 (01:29:13):
Well, and I know it's easy to say it when
you're sitting at eight and one, but following Herbstreet were
on the call today and they you know, Foller said
at some point he's like, they're good players all over
the transfer portal whatever. You still got to pick the
right ones. And again, I know it's easy to say
that when you're eight and one. I do think there's
something to it because LSU spent a lot of money
(01:29:35):
in NIL this year, Texas A and m and the
Jimbo Fisher era, we believe spend a lot of money
in NIL, like just because you have money. You know,
it's no different. You know, we had the conversation with
Disager a few weeks ago with the Dodgers about, yeah,
they spend a lot of money, but so did the Mets,
and the Mets didn't even make the playoffs, and the
Mets started the season with the higher payroll. So like,
I don't know that I care. I don't even know
(01:29:57):
how many other people care. I just think that you know,
they've they've been so transparent about it. Yes, they got
some guys that they probably wouldn't have gotten without it,
but all of these schools do. I mean, there are
guys that wouldn't be at pick a school, doesn't matter,
Texas wherever. Like, I don't know, it's just it's not
something that bothers me. But I will say this, that
(01:30:18):
defense is legit. And of course, you know, because this
is the world that we live in. You know, everybody
tried to immediately discar Oh, how is BYU a top
ten team?
Speaker 3 (01:30:28):
They stink?
Speaker 2 (01:30:29):
Well, all I can tell you is this, that defense
is insane. They came into the game today top ten
in the country and scoring defense and total defense, the
number one rush defense. They're excellent. And I think you
know you said it a minute ago. It's like, yeah,
I don't think they're gonna win four or five games
in the in the playoff, but if they get in,
(01:30:50):
and they probably will at minimum make the Big the
Big twelve championship game at this point because they have
head to head wins over the well, I guess head
to head wins over two teams that are tied for
second place. Big twelve is a little bit of a mess,
less than a mess than than the ACC. But but
they should get into the Big twelve Championship game. They
only have two games left. They look really good. I'm
(01:31:13):
rambling at this point real quick. I guess we should
talk about the ACC. What what sure? What an adventure?
Speaker 4 (01:31:21):
Choose that's that's also a football conference?
Speaker 2 (01:31:24):
It is This isn't the time of the place. There's
gonna be a conversation about auto bids after this. But uh,
Virginia was undefeated coming into the evening. They lose to
Wake Forest at home Louisville was tied atop the standings.
They lose to that longtime ACC power col at home.
(01:31:45):
Yeah it is worth doing. By the way, Uh, the
game that probably in week one about you know, six
o'clock Eastern time, we thought might be a top five
matchup Florida State and Clemson they played today. Neither of
them is in first place, but yeah, somebody's got to
win that league. By the way, Duke los to Yukon today.
They're five and four but four one in the ACC.
(01:32:07):
So what a weird league?
Speaker 3 (01:32:09):
Man?
Speaker 2 (01:32:09):
What a weird league?
Speaker 4 (01:32:10):
Do you?
Speaker 2 (01:32:10):
Is there a team that you like more than others?
Georgia Tech, by the way, eight and one only lost
last week. They still have Georgia in the regular season
as well. Is there a team you like at all
a little bit? Maybe? Possibly?
Speaker 3 (01:32:21):
Maybe not really? Yeah, I mean, look, there there's some
good teams there, but there's nobody I'm looking at and
I'm just like, man, what a juggernaut like Miami's been
proven out to be. Carson Beck's just he's just not
the guy on a consistent enough basis. And that's not
(01:32:41):
their only issue, but that certainly has been a problem
for them. And then you look down the line. I
never really believed in Virginia. They were living dangerously for
week after week after week. Louisville's a good team, but
certainly not I would say a great team. They've they've
maybe even overperformed what you would expect looking at the roster,
and Brahms just great coach, but everybody else is just
(01:33:03):
they can get beat. They're not particularly impressive. I don't
think anybody that gets in from that conference is going
to make any hay at all in a college football playoff.
It's just kind of a lost season for that conference.
Speaker 2 (01:33:16):
Yeah, I still think Miami has the talent, but they
you know, they're sitting at seven and two. Two of
their final three are on the road, and obviously they
just lost at SMU last week, and they're in a
weird spot where they're three and two in the league,
but two of their losses are the teams that are
either tied or ahead of them in the standing. So
(01:33:36):
like the likelihood that all of the teams that you
need to lose are going to lose the games that
you need to lose probably not looking very good. So, yeah,
the ACC will be represented in the college football Playoff.
I just don't know for how long, and I certainly
don't know by who, as there is currently a one two, three, four,
five way tie in the lost column in the league.
(01:34:00):
Fox Sports Radio Aertors Jason Martin, broadcasting live from the
Fox Sports Radio Studios. We'll come back, look back to
a busy week ten in the NFL, and then of
course we are week nine in the NFL, excuse me,
And of course we got to look ahead to a
busy week ten, plenty of action on the field coming up.
We'll discuss all that next. Fox Sports Radio Welcome back, everybody.
(01:34:23):
Fox Sports Radio er Tors Jason Martin, broadcasting live from
the Fox Sports Radio Studios. Want to look back on
week nine of the NFL, and of course look ahead
to a busy week ten. Before we do, though, final
time this evening, Steve de Seger, tell us what in
the world is trending?
Speaker 11 (01:34:40):
Please, because you're about to spend an entire segment on
the Jets Browns game coming up tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (01:34:45):
I don't know who's on the Jets, so it's like
Major League Jets. He's only defense, Sign them up, cross
them off the list.
Speaker 11 (01:34:52):
Then only defense in the league without an interception this season,
and he just traded away two defensive starters.
Speaker 12 (01:34:59):
Yikes.
Speaker 11 (01:35:00):
Four late night games in college football. Nebraska held down
at UCLA twenty eight twenty one. UNLV coach by Dan
Mullen now seven and two after winning easily at Colorado
State forty two to ten.
Speaker 2 (01:35:11):
I think Mullen is.
Speaker 12 (01:35:11):
Still arguing with the refs on the sideline.
Speaker 11 (01:35:13):
Though we're cold too, very cold on the side and
constantly argumentative. He could coach Arizona. Oregon State is two
and seven and they've given up defensive touchdown to Sam
Houston two minutes left. Sam Houston oh to eight, is
winning at Oregon State twenty one to seventeen, and San
Diego State has just not shown up at Hawaii tonight.
(01:35:34):
It's thirty one six for the home team in the
third quarter. Number one Ohio State nine and oh after
winning at Purdue thirty four to ten over three hundred
yards passing for Julian Say and Jeremiah Smith ten receptions
one hundred and thirty seven yards in a score Purdue
oh and seven in conference. Their time of possession was
nineteen minutes today. Ohio State next two games will be
(01:35:56):
hosting UCLA and hosting Rutgers Indiana rank number two ten
and oh after winning at Penn State on a late
touchdown pass. The game winning drive was ten plays eighty
yards in a minute fifteen. The Hoosiers will host Wisconsin
next Saturday and then have a week off. Wisconsin upset
Washington thirteen to ten. Badgers forced to fumble on a
(01:36:17):
sack third quarter and then scored their only touchdown two
plays later. Wisconsin had lost six straight. So first Power
Conference win of the season for the Badgers. So what
are the Power Conference teams that have no wins against
Power Conference opponents? Well, Boston College, Purdue, Oklahoma State, Arkansas,
(01:36:38):
and Penn State as well. Wow, Thegers Badgers had under
fifty yards passing and still won the game. They apparently
hadn't done that in a conference win in over a
decade since the game against Nebraska, and that was the
game Melvin Gordon ran for four hundred yards, So we
got a bit of a caveat on that one. Texas
A and m undefeated rank third one at Missouri thirty
(01:37:01):
eight seventeen. Maszoo's freshman quarterbacks seven of twenty two passing
with a fumble. Aggi's led twenty one nothing in the
third quarter. In the SEC both A and M and
Alabama undefeated in Conference A and M coming up against
South Carolina and Samford Number four Alabama. I can't say
ripped LSU, but it never seemed to be in doubt.
It was a weird game twenty to nine, the final
(01:37:23):
seventeen to three at the half. Number five Georgia forty
one twenty one winners at Mississippi State and six ranked
Old Miss shut out the Citadel forty nine nothing Top
ten matchup at Texas Tech and impressive home win for
the Red Raiders with Patrick Mahomes there twenty nine seven
the final over BYU, which committed three turnovers. Three teams
(01:37:44):
in the Big Twelve at the time had one conference loss.
So there's Texas Tech and BYU, and let's not forget

bad snap on the punt, and they wind up winning
by two. Iowa had missed a two point pass with
under two minutes left. In two weeks, it's Oregon hosting
USC at number ten Notre Dame in the snow Irish

number fourteen Virginia sixteen to nine Virginia Cavaliers with three

Louisville twenty nine twenty six. You know that usual ACC matchup.
Speaker 12 (01:38:33):
CAL at Louisville.
Speaker 11 (01:38:34):
Sixteenth rank Vanderbilt in overtime beat Auburn forty five thirty eight.
Auburn committed twelve penalties. Auburn had been leading late first

nineteen tackles. The next rankings come out Tuesday. College football
selection Sunday is December the seventh, only about a month away.
College hoops number fifteen Alabama won at number five Saint John's.
As for the NBA late game, Phoenix did beat the

million dollars for winning a one week year end tournament

Novak Djokovic withdrew from the ATP final citing a shoulder injury.

Speaker 2 (01:40:38):
Back to you, Thank you very much, Steve de Sager.
Have a great evening. We will see you tomorrow. I
assume right.
Speaker 12 (01:40:46):
NFL duties tomorrow night, But all right, the.
Speaker 2 (01:40:48):
Next night, Arnie Spaniel will have to survive with that you.
I don't know how he will.
Speaker 12 (01:40:52):
And vice versa.
Speaker 2 (01:40:53):
He was spent all week peer pressuring me to get
him tickets to Yukon Arizona in stores in a couple
of weeks. Not only could I not come through, I
don't know that I would have tried that hard if
I could.
Speaker 12 (01:41:04):
Well, so that implies that he would leave the house because.
Speaker 2 (01:41:08):
He claims he bought tickets. I don't know if I
actually believe him. I need to see a picture from
the arena.
Speaker 11 (01:41:13):
But all those times living in New England. You know,
I could go to the next game, or hey, this
you know never goes.
Speaker 4 (01:41:19):
All right to Sega.
Speaker 2 (01:41:20):
We'll enjoy the afternoon Fox Sports Radio air tours. Jason
Martin taking until two am Eastern. Bernie Fratto is after
us to Saga out on Sunday. He'll be with the
Los Angeles Chargers. I'll tell you what, Mary, give us
a little music, put us in the mood. We're gonna
get to Week ten. J mart In, just a second, obviously, Look,
(01:41:40):
you know with all these injuries, a couple teams on buys,
we know that, you know, the slates all it's gonna
be a little thin this time of year, but real quick. Obviously,
Bill's beat the Chiefs last week, the Bears rally, Vikings
take care of the Lions. Do you have any strong
takeaways from the week nine games last Sunday, Monday, et cetera.
Speaker 3 (01:42:03):
I just love how the Bills are dead the Bills.
Now we're seeing them regress and then they win this.
They win a game and now they're the most dominant
team in the league. And it's just amazing how the
league shifts from week to week in terms of what
is said and of course you got Draymond Green, Colin
dak Prescott a bomb. We don't want to forget that
as well. But no, I mean I don't have any
(01:42:24):
major takes. I still feel like the teams that we
thought were gonna be good are The One thing that
you are starting to see I think is Baltimore is
not out of it. Yeah, and so maybe our pick's
not going to be as bad as we thought. Now
they don't have much room for error at this point,
but that division is not as in stone for Pittsburgh.
(01:42:46):
I just I'm not as sure about what they're if
they're gonna be able to hold onto this long term.
Speaker 2 (01:42:51):
Pittsburgh five and three, Baltimore three and five, but they
have won two in a row. They are playing Minnesota
on Sunday. Yeah, you pretty much hit on it. I
think it's hard to take too much out of the
Minnesota win. Too much to take It's hard for me
to take too much out of the Indie loss. There
(01:43:11):
was one thing that from last week that I did
want to mention really quick. If I oh my guy
Sam Donald. Always loved that guy, sure, always loved that guy.
I'll tell you what man I was watching Sunday Night
football is texting to you guys. I just I got
to own it. I was wrong on this guy. Three
hundred and thirty yards passing four touchdowns. That game was
(01:43:34):
basically over midway through the second quarter. I know the
Washington Commanders aren't very good. Jayden Daniels got hurt late.
I get all that, but I gotta give credit. Where's
toe Sam Donald so far has played. I really thought,
for people who may not remember my preseason take, I
thought it was the perfect storm with Kevin O'Connell lost
the games late that mattered, and I thought when he
(01:43:55):
went to a defensive head coach it would be a disaster. Instead,
he is having his best seat of his career still early,
but he's been awesome, So I gotta gi him credit.
I'll tell you we're gonna ad anything.
Speaker 3 (01:44:06):
No, I don't have to add to it. I just
backing you up. I mean, yeah, he's been everything that
you would want, and it's it's made it well. I
don't know. I mean, the Vikings are gonna be with
the Vikings are, but you definitely look at Minnesota and
you're just kind of like, hmm, did you know.
Speaker 4 (01:44:21):
What you had? Yeah?
Speaker 6 (01:44:23):
Or not.
Speaker 3 (01:44:24):
But look, there's still a lot of football left to
be played, and so we need to see how this
is actually going to pan out when we get to
the end of the season, because I mean, Darnold played
pretty dog one well at different times. The question is
is he going to be able to hold that together?
You know, as we get closer to the end of
the season.
Speaker 2 (01:44:43):
We will see. As you said, it's a long season,
stuff can change, obviously. Look, you know the situation with
the quarterbacks in Minnesota right now not working out well
for Kevin O'Connell even coming off a win. I'll tell
you what. Ian not a monster slate, but give us
a game or two to preview here, let us know
what what where we're starting.
Speaker 7 (01:45:01):
Yeah, there's a few good ones. Let's start with this.
The New England Patriots are going down to Tampa Bay
to take on the Buccaneers. Martin Weiss earlier called it
the Tom Brady Bowl as it's his two former teams.
But uh, Tampa Bay's favored by two and a half
points at home. What do you guys think?
Speaker 2 (01:45:16):
What do you got, ja, Martin?
Speaker 3 (01:45:23):
I got New England? Oh, okay, Man Brabel just knows
how to coach sure, and the injury woes for Tampa
Bay are just collecting, and so Mayfield is having to
do so much with so little right now. Just I
don't know. I mean, you've had Irving missing for a month,
you haven't had Evans much of this season at all,
(01:45:45):
and of course he's pretty much done for the year,
likeg Buka has been banged up, Godwin hasn't been himself.
I just I feel like they're beaten up and the
Patriots are winning close games. Drake may is continuing to improve,
and Rabel kind of has that defense playing nasty, which
is exactly what I witnessed here when I covered the Titans,
you know, daily for years throughout his entire tenure here.
(01:46:07):
I've seen this before. Usually when this role starts, it
does not stop. And so I feel like they're going
to be able to go ahead and beat Tampa.
Speaker 2 (01:46:16):
Yeah, I'll go ahead and take Tampa at home. And
that's not some big indictment on the New England Patriots.
I will say. You look at the wins. Obviously the
great wins several weeks ago now against Buffalo, but you
know New Orleans Tennessee, which was obviously the revenge game
for Rabel the Browns Falcons by one point last week.
(01:46:40):
It should be a really intriguing game. I will say that.
And obviously, look, I think the Patriots are. I'm not
somebody that like because the Patriots had, you know, fifteen
years of excellence that I can't enjoy watching them be
good again. Like I have no I'm from New England,
but I have no emotional attachment one way or the other.
Like I know some people were like, oh, here we
(01:47:00):
go again with the Patriots. I just think it's an
awesome story. And I'll say this, you know, I think
is you know, there's been so many guys injured, so
many guys banged up, so many guys whatever. Just like
Drake May showing up and doing it every single week
has been awesome. It's been fun. So I'm enjoying the
storyline in general. But young team quarterback on the road,
(01:47:22):
I'll go ahead and take Tampa Bay in this one
to win at home. All right?
Speaker 7 (01:47:27):
Next up, how about the Monday night game? Got the
Philadelphia Eagles going to Green Bay to take on the Packers.
Packers are actually favored by a point and a half
at home here, But what do you got our uh,
our Jordan love take is you know, it's something I
don't know what it is. You know, Yeah, they didn't
(01:47:50):
play well last week. You know, he played fine, but
don't get the win at Carolina through for a lot
of yards, zero touch downs, one interception. I just bring
it up because I've never really been a believer he's
playing fine, But it just feels like with the Packers,
am I crazy?
Speaker 2 (01:48:10):
It's just like, never know what you're gonna get from them.
Week to week losses to the Browns and the Panthers,
including a home loss to the Panthers, you know, struggle
with the Cardinals, tie with the Cowboys. Am I crazy? Like,
I just I don't know what I'm getting from them
week to week.
Speaker 3 (01:48:28):
No, I don't either. I mean that was that loss
is just so inexplicable last week. It just it makes
you question everything. But again, I'm just I just don't
know how I believe how I feel about that quarterback,
which is exactly your point. And the you know, the
other thing is their offense was so dependent upon Tucker Craft. Yeah,
(01:48:49):
and now he's done for the year. That is substantial.
I don't know who's stepping into that. I mean, they've
got some guys there, but I don't know who's stepping
into that role to fill that kind of offense. I
don't like them at all. I definitely see them getting
beat on Sunday.
Speaker 2 (01:49:03):
Yeah, I agree, Eagles coming off of the bye. They
you know, they did look good in that final game
before the bye, they got Saquon going. I just they're
so weird, Like I don't really actually know what to
make of them big picture. I will say I think
it's kind of an interesting, you know statement game is
(01:49:25):
not the right game, but like what are you? Where
are you going? What is this season? Is it just
going to be Like I think this is the game
where it's like, is it just gonna be this weird
thing where you get a new team every year every week?
Excuse me, new storyline. Sometimes AJ Brown's involved, sometimes he's not.
(01:49:47):
Sometimes Saquon Barkley's evolved, sometimes he's not. Or are you
going to have an identity as a team again? They're
coming off of the bye, they're on the two game
winning streak, took care of the Giants right before, and
to me, yeah, I think that's what's most interesting. And
I think obviously having a national stage to show it
and then I will say, like, back half of the
schedule not necessarily easy. You've already gotten your two games
(01:50:10):
against the Giants out of the way. You still got
the Lions, The Bears are obviously intriguing. The Chargers are
pretty banged up right now at Buffalo as well. So like,
there's still a lot of big games left on the schedule.
You have to build some momentum and we'll see, you
know where they're at coming off of the Monday night game.
Still one more real quick? You sure?
Speaker 7 (01:50:32):
How about the Baltimore Ravens going to Minnesota to take
on the Vikings. Got as the road team. Baltimore's favored
by four and a half points here, but who you got.
Speaker 3 (01:50:41):
Jmark here again quarterback? And then on the other side,
you've got one team seemingly trending in the right direction.
I still am not sure about the offense in Minnesota.
Speaker 4 (01:50:55):
I like Baltimore in this game.
Speaker 3 (01:50:57):
I just think this is a this is a rough ask,
even though Baltimore's defense has not been very good, especially
against the run. So maybe you can get Aaron Jones loose,
and maybe Jordan Mason can do some things for you
at the goal line. I just feel like this is
the kind of game where Baltimore's offense explodes, and I
feel like Monday we're talking about Baltimore being fully back.
Speaker 2 (01:51:18):
That's exactly how I feel. I don't have a ton
to add, but took care of business, did exactly everything
that you wanted last Thursday night against Miami. And I
think the other thing too, you get a couple extra
days off, and so I listen, I liked the JJ
McCarthy story coming in. I wasn't someone that just didn't
(01:51:39):
believe on him because he wasn't, you know, a crazy like.
You know, we know what his role was at Michigan.
And I wasn't somebody that was super down on him
because he didn't have to do X Y or Z
or had great teammates or whatever. But you know, I
need to see some consistency before I expect them to
just go and take care of business. And I think
the other thing too, is they didn't play that well,
at least offensively. It's the Lions last week, So bring
(01:52:02):
it up to say I like Baltimore in this game
as well. Tell you what we'll come back. We'll wrap
a couple intriguing stories from the week that we got
to get to Week ten of the NFL. On the field,
but off the field, there's some crazy stuff going on
Fox Sports Radio. Welcome back everybody, Fox Sports Radio. Ertrris

(01:52:43):
we get off air. Jmar Two quick stories I do
want to get to that we have not had a
chance to discuss yet. First of all, did you see
the Tom Brady cloning his dog story?
Speaker 3 (01:53:00):
I saw the story. I didn't look too deeply into it.
I just kind of said, man, dude's got a lot
of money.
Speaker 2 (01:53:06):
Yeah, no, I don't. I don't know what else that
what the other angle is? You know, Brady Strake, I
feel like he's kind of a weirdo, but he's so
he was so great that yeah, yeah, kind of a weirdo,
kind of a weirdo.
Speaker 4 (01:53:20):
I mean, I'm with you.
Speaker 2 (01:53:21):
I'm just yeah, Tom Brady cloned his dog. Would you
ever clone a pet? Jmart? If you had the money
in the opportunity, would you.
Speaker 3 (01:53:30):
I don't think so. I just I don't mess with biology.
Speaker 4 (01:53:34):
Thank you, just no, thank you.
Speaker 2 (01:53:36):
Yeah, we've all seen Jurassic Park. Sounds great in theory.
That's my My whole thing is, you know, you could
have the same genes, the same whatever, but uh just
never know what's gonna happen once you put those uh
you know, drops in that beaker or whatever. All right,
let's switch gears. Rico dow Dell, Oh yeah, J Mart.
(01:53:59):
You could set up this story. We do have the sound,
but it's like a two minute clip. I think it's better.
It was a great story that you sent. I loved
everything about it. I mean, I could set it up,
but it was kind of something that you that kind
of kind of kind of came across your radar. I'll
give you the floor to tell America a little bit
about it.
Speaker 3 (01:54:16):
I mean, in short, Rico Daldell, who has just had
a pretty incredible run in Carolina, scored a touchdown and
did the basically East West Keegan or Key versus or Key. Sorry,
Key and Peel sketch that they're pretty famous for the
(01:54:38):
East West kind of they do the names and Hinkle mccrinkleberry, who.
Speaker 4 (01:54:46):
Let's just say he did some thrusts.
Speaker 3 (01:54:50):
After he scored a touchdown. Sure, and so Dawdell did this,
and this has actually been done I think by at
least one other player, but the NFL did not care
for it, and they chose to find him and it
became a little bit of a hullbaloo and some people
rolled their eyes and called it no fun league and
all this. They said it was lewde and unacceptable and
all this. But of course, all he was doing was
(01:55:12):
paying homage to this hilarious skit that's become pretty famous
through the last few years since debuting on Comedy Central.
And it led to basically Dave Canals talking to or
the Carolina Panthers organization getting in touch with Keegan Michael Key,
who has done this before. He did it at Penn
(01:55:34):
State as well when he did the James Franklin thing,
which was hilarious as well years ago, and he basically said, look,
I can't believe this happened. We're upset that this happened
to you. Kind of told him to stand by it, said,
you know, the rules on the Key and pol league
must be a little bit different than the NFL, kind
of tongue in cheek. There also donated I think fifteen
thousand dollars to charity on behalf of Rico Daudel. So
(01:55:58):
it was just a really cool story. They turned it
into something even more positive and Keeth and Michael Key
kind of being a part of it just made it
even cooler.
Speaker 2 (01:56:06):
Yeah, it was a fun story and I thought the
part obviously that was cool was that they donated to
a charity of Rico Dado's choice. But yeah, it was fun.
It was different, and it's a good story overall. Anything
else you're looking forward to, you know, we talked a
little bit about Week ten, the big games in the
NFL this coming week. Shouldn't mention, by the way, next
(01:56:28):
week a big week of college football. Alabama hosting Oklahoma,
Texas traveling to Georgia. Says, we got a minute or
two left. I'll say this. Alabama has looked okay the
last couple of games. Remember they yeah, survived South Carolina
Tonight against LSU, they get to win twenty to nine,
(01:56:52):
but overall struggled to run the ball yet again. Oklahoma,
we know how good that defense is. I just think
both those games will be interesting and for people who
don't like kind of the sec dominant slash arrogance in
the world of college football. If Oklahoma and Texas win
next week, even if one of the two wins, but
(01:57:13):
certainly if both of them do, it opens up a
crazy can of worms where if my math is correct,
you'd have six teams with one or two losses Ole
Miss right now, Old Miss, Texas, A and M Alabama.
Georgia is four, Vandy I believe is five, So then
Texas and Oklahoma, if they were to win, would be
(01:57:35):
six and seven. So that would be the chaos scenario.
But those are the two marquee games next Saturday, Jimar.
Speaker 3 (01:57:41):
Yeah, they're good ones. All lives are going to be
on Arch again. I don't know what to make of
what Texas can do against Georgia, but I would say
Georgia and Alabama are both beatable football teams, depending on
the week, depending on the opponent. If you show up
with your best, you can beat them. I don't know
whether or not Texas and Oklahoma are going to be
(01:58:04):
able to do that. I actually feel like Bama will
handle Oklahoma. But I'm very curious about that Texas Georgia game.
Texas needs it really badly, and Georgia has, I don't know.
There have been times when they felt a little bit flat.
Now usually that means Gunner Stockton's gone pretty crazy, and
they've been able to kind of pull that out, and
(01:58:24):
they ended up really dominating on Saturday in a game
that some said, oh, that's not a great matchup for
Georgia against Mississippi State. Well it turned out to be
just fine. But so I feel like probably Georgia and
Bama are both going to win. But if I had
to pick one that I looked at and said, eh,
we'll see, I actually would think Georgia is probably more
likely there.
Speaker 2 (01:58:46):
Yeah, I don't know what to make a Georgia man.
You know, I told you I mentioned earlier. I texted
you guys throughout the week. I thought Georgia Mississippi State
was potential upset potential. Remember Mississippi State not only did
they just win their first game last week, they had
taken both Texas and Tennessee to overtime at home and
(01:59:06):
it was never even really close. So Georgia, the team
that barely survived Florida, barely survived Old Miss. You know,
they get a couple favorable calls in the Auburn game. Uh,
they take care of business. They play Texas next week.
Kind of an interesting stretch for Georgia. They still have
Texas and Georgia Tech. We talked earlier Georgia Tech, you know,
(01:59:27):
just in a weird, weird spot atop the ACC. The
ACC looking like a one bid league, and I mentioned
it in a second ago. Oklahoma playing at Alabama. Oklahoma
Alabama will actually be the three to thirty game, and
then the seven to thirty Eastern Time game will be
Georgia and Texas. So plenty of good football. So I
think that's it for a show, Jay mart good stuff.
(01:59:49):
Bernie Fratto coming up next, Yeah, Bernie Fratto coming up next.
Bernie Fratto of The Bernie Fratto Show. Cannot wait to
hear what he has to say about a busy day
in sports. If you missed it, Indiana survives Penn State,
Alabama wins sloppy against LSU. Oh my goodness, Oregon survives Iowa.
It was a fun day at college football and not
(02:00:11):
a ton of ousts, but we got to get out
of here. Want to thank the crew, Mary Mack on
the board, producer Ian Steve de Sega from our partner
Jason Martin. I am erin Torres. As mentioned, make sure
to listen to Bernie Fratto, He's coming up next, and
most importantly, make sure to download the podcast, available shortly
after we get off air. If you missed any of
