an unmatched selection, fast free shipping, free road has protection
over ten thousand recommended installers. Tyreck dot com. The way
(00:21):
tire buying should be. We are on the verge of
a potentially ground shaking Saturday night in college football, number eleven,
Clemson about to lose, as de Segre just told you.
To Louisville. They trail thirty three to fourteen about three
minutes to go. It would be their second loss of
the season. Texas A and m rink tenth in the country,
(00:43):
trails South Carolina again as Desagre just told you, thirty
to twenty with five twelve to go. And also Tennessee
not quite but sort of on the ropes. They're up
twenty one to eighteen with ten thirteen to go. Jmark.
Before we get to college football, though, I just want
to put something on everybody's radar that Martin Weisse he
(01:05):
was just on minutes ago with with VJ. Husky just
sent me Jay mart This is from Shamscharani and this.
Speaker 2 (01:12):
Is the no.
Speaker 1 (01:13):
Did you see this?
Speaker 3 (01:14):
No, but you said Sham, so now I'm interested.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
This is the official account of Shams Turania. I checked
even after Martin sented to me. This is not a
burner account. Seventy six Ers Joel Embiid got an altercation
with a columnist following tonight's game in Philadelphia. Embiid took
issue with a recent column that referenced his late brother
and son, and Embiid shoved the columnists. No punches thrown.
(01:41):
So don't know if there's video, don't know if there
will be any type of availability. Obviously we are we
are reacting to this in real time. The Philadelphia seventy
six Ers did play earlier today against Memphis. They lose
one twenty four to one oh seven at home. Joe
lmb has not, I believe, played yet this season, so listen.
(02:03):
I don't want to start speculating too much too soon
on anything, but this is late breaking news and it
does uh, you know.
Speaker 2 (02:11):
I I don't know.
Speaker 1 (02:12):
I don't know if there's gonna be a video. I
don't know what the reaction will be.
Speaker 3 (02:15):
But Joe L.
Speaker 1 (02:16):
Embiid apparently got into a shoving match with a Philadelphia
newspaper confidence dam Mark.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
Well, that's a great start to the year for Embiid.
But we gotta go. We gotta figure out exactly what
happened in all the circumstances. But man, that's that was
not what I was expecting you to know for sure.
Speaker 1 (02:38):
Well, when Martin White just sending me a thank you, Martin,
I know you're listening in the hallways here. Probably stuff
hasn't even gotten to the car yet.
Speaker 3 (02:45):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
You know, you see something from Schaan's late breaking you
know you're curious what it is. I'll say, you know,
weird vibes in Philly right now, man, you know, listen,
they're they're one in four after tonight. You know, Joel
Embiid has not played yet this year. Paul George has
not played yet this year. I think there's some real
(03:06):
tension in that market, you know, especially by the way
I'll say and listen, I don't know all the circumstances whatever.
But Joel Embiid, you know, played every game of the
Olympic Summer Tour, except of course when he got bench
by Steve Kerr. Now can't play. Yeah, it just feels
like it feels like there's been it feels like there,
it feels like that organization is at a little bit
(03:28):
of a crossroads. By the way, MB did get some
tough questioning yesterday saying, quote, I've done too much for
this city for people to say that I don't want
to play. And of course, remember Jay Martin, I know
you saw this headline Joel Embii basically saying probably a
week or so before the season, probably realistically he will
not be playing very many, if any, back to backs
(03:48):
over the course of the remainder of his career. So
the point I'm trying to make it feels like there's
some tension between that star player and that city and
Persham's Tarania. There was some pushing and showing with the
newspaper calmness today.
Speaker 3 (04:02):
All right, well, you're right about that. I do think
there's some tension there. I think there's some angst and
some kind of just aggravation probably on both sides, and
that's unfortunate, and that's I don't know. I think at
times you just when you see Embiid miss time and
then on the flip side, Embiid has hurt a lot
(04:22):
as well. Like I don't know that embiid is sitting
out because of anything other than the fact that his
body's just a little bit more fragile than you would
want somebody at that size to be, especially when you
know how good he is when he's available and when
he is out there, and the Sixers of course understand,
and their fans all know. I mean, they've got no
chance without him, zero, And so that that becomes more
(04:44):
frustrating because every year that goes by, it's like, is
this gonna happen over and over or are we finally
going to break this cycle? And so I do think.
And it's a sports city where emotions always run high anyway,
So that's the other side of it. So I guess
we'll get more detail on it, but not's with somebody's family,
even in print, that could be a little bit much.
Speaker 1 (05:05):
Yeah, we'll monitor this. I will say I have a
buddy of mine who does host on the Fox Sports
radio affiliate down there, So if anything comes out tonight,
I think he'd be happy to join us. But let's
stick with college football. You know, might as well just
stay in the state of Pennsylvania. Because a Jay Bart
this is my night, man, this is our night, and listen.
(05:27):
You know, I don't want to hear this is the
twelve team playoff era and this that the other thing.
But let's go back to big noon kickoff. This afternoon
Ohio State, Penn State. Ohio State does win twenty to thirteen. Listen,
I'm gonna take half a second. I am gonna give
Ohio State a little bit of credit. You know, starting
left tackle goes out with injury, backup left tackle goes
(05:49):
out with injury, the starting left guard, and I thought
Joel Klatt did a great job of explaining, you know
that it's not just moving over one spot, that it's
you know, different position, different responsibilities. The starting left guard
moves over in Ohio State largely outplays Penn State. Final
score twenty to thirteen. You know, Frankly, there was a
Will Howard picked six that was the only touchdown that
(06:12):
Penn State scored and you said it to your night,
j Mart. So I'm gonna give you the floor and
I'll just set it up by saying this is that
you know, Penn State loses. James Franklin is now one
in fourteen against top five teams, one in ten against
Ohio State, and just very quickly the final possession that
Penn State had, they had first and goal on about
(06:32):
the five three straight run plays right up the middle
for no yardage, a pass into traffic. They did not
obviously get any points. Ohio State got the ball back,
to their credit, ran out the clock. Penn State never
gets the ball back, and as I said, they fall
to seven and one, one and ten against Ohio State
under James Franklin.
Speaker 3 (06:52):
J Mart okay, So, and we could talk about the
play calling and all that in a bit. At what
point point is Penn State under James Franklin going to
have a legitimate offense? Like I mean, I understand that
it happened once before and they found their way in
the Rose Bowl at that point. But outside of that,
(07:12):
what do you have to show? I mean, Drew Aler
had one hundred and twenty yards in the game. You
couldn't run the ball between the tackles pretty much all
day long. We already knew after watching the USC game
you had a tight end and that was kind of it.
But the bigger thing is this, So James Franklin in
the postgame press conference said, this is all on me.
Expectations come with this job. Da da da Dada, I
(07:34):
said all the right things because there's nothing else you
can say. It is all on him. That's exactly right,
especially when you get the paycheck that he gets and
the extensions that he's gotten and all this other stuff.
You said something about Ryan Day a couple of weeks ago,
and I think it is far more true about James
Franklin even than it is about Ryan Day. But I
could I can find a lot of people that coach
(07:58):
football that can go to Penn State with the kind
of resources that they have, with the tradition that they have,
with the die hard fan base that they have almost
to a fault, with the you know, win loss record,
all of that kind of stuff, the built in advantages
of being at Penn State. I find a lot of
people that coach football that can come in and can
(08:19):
beat Minnesota and can beat Illinois and can beat some
of these teams. With no disrespect to them intended here,
but you get where I'm going here. Like, the reason
you get a job at Penn State and you hold
onto it is because you beat Ohio State once in
a while at least you beat Michigan. You beat the
(08:39):
teams that you're not necessarily supposed to beat, but at
Penn State you kind of are supposed to beat. He
just doesn't do it. It never happens. And I said, we
talked about the play calls, do it now. That play
calling on the goal line series was some of the
most just bankrupt I've ever seen. Like it was, they
(09:00):
ran three times right into the teeth of the Ohio
State D line where they hadn't been successful all game.
And then they had aler throw on fourth down, not
even to his tight end, but into triple coverage and
that was it. And they never got the football pack
because in Ohio State, you know, drowned out the last
five thirteen and won the football game. That's all you got.
(09:24):
You had a trick plays, You had a direct snap
to your tight end on that exact same drive, and
then you get inside the five first and goal against
Ohio State, where we know the beef is there on
the d line, we understand the talent. There's dudes that
are going to be playing on Sunday that you're staring
at and you ran directly into them when you had
had no success doing it at any point during the game.
And then on fourth down you threw the ball when
(09:46):
everybody knew it was coming. No one was surprised at
that point that you tried to quote get creative unquote
by throwing the football on fourth down. A lot of dudes, Aaron,
they can come in and win the kind of game
that James Franklin has won at Penn State. There are
very few that can come in and win the games
that he hasn't won. And those are the guys that
(10:07):
you got to go out and find. Those are the
guys that you go out and extent. Those are the
guys that you go out and break the bank for. Eventually,
you got to stop running into the same brick wall.
You got to stop doing the same thing and not
calling yourself insane. James Franklin is a good football coach,
but at this level he is very mediocre. I think
this is the Peter Principal, like, he gets to this
(10:29):
point where he gives you enough hope if you're a
Penn State fan to think maybe this is going to
be it. Maybe it's not just that we've played a
bunch of cupcakes. Maybe it's not just that we barely
outlasted a USC team that's one of the worst in
recent memory. Is certainly one of the worst in Lincoln
Royway's tenure as a head coach anywhere. Maybe we're actually
good this time around. We've even gotten fooled into thinking
(10:50):
it a couple of times, and now you look at
it and you see no, Penn State's exactly who they
always are. They beat nobody, they have a high ranking.
Then they bring somebody into the house that's good and
they lose. They lose a physical game where they can't
score any points. You just mentioned the only touchdown in
the game came courtesy of a Will Howard pick six
(11:10):
in the first quarter, and outside of that, Penn State
was getting yards about as much as you and me
would have if we were out there. It's got to
be better than that at Penn State. That the expectation
is higher. James Franklin's right. Expectations come with the job, right,
and I expect you not to have the job at
some point when you don't do that. And I'm waiting
(11:31):
for when that's actually gonna happen really quickly.
Speaker 1 (11:34):
A name you mentioned, Lincoln Riley USC does fall at Washington.
Speaker 3 (11:39):
Total they're terrible.
Speaker 1 (11:40):
Twenty six twenty one is the final. We'll talk about
that on the other side USC now.
Speaker 4 (11:45):
Four and five, four and five, oh and three, zero
and four and true road games whatever it is own
four I guess, including Maryland and Minnesota among others.
Speaker 1 (11:56):
Let's stay on Penn State. So listen what you said. Yeah,
I agree with one hundred percent, and I think you
know and this is something you and I have tried
to be careful about all year long. Is this new
twelve team playoff. You're you know what this and that
like Penn State, Okay, like okay, So Penn State is
going to like probably almost certainly make the twelve team
(12:20):
college football playoff. Kay, But at a certain point, like
it's just I think the frustration has to boil over
if you're a Penn State fan for all the reasons
that you said, is that, yes, you might make that
twelve team college football playoff, but if you literally never
beat teams that are equal to or better than you,
(12:40):
it's like you're gonna get to the playoff and get
smoked by whoever you play all.
Speaker 3 (12:43):
Always looking forward to seeing them get beat by three
touchdowns by one of the other teams in the playoff
because they don't measure up. I understand they were number
three entering the game. But this proved what I think
we all thought by the eye test, which is that's
not the third best team in the country. It's just not.
Speaker 1 (12:58):
No. And obviously I'm not a big Ryan day guy
goes without saying, but I feel like I should have
put more weight into like, oh, they probably should have
lost to USC and that's like basically the only you know,
team of the pulse that they've played so far. For
lack of a better term, but no. I mean, that's
where I think my frustration would be if I'm a
Penn State fan and I'm not. Is just the idea that,
(13:21):
like you said, it's it's getting to a certain level
and then never getting over the hump, never getting over
the hump, And I just think that's where I would
I think that's where the frustration has to be. If
you're a Penn State fan, Yes, you can still make
the twelve team college football Playoff. Yes in theory, any hypothetical.
Does you know anything that you wanted to achieve this
season is still on the table. I guess technically a
(13:43):
Big Ten championships kind of out of your control at
this point. The only point I'm trying to make is
that yes, it's all in theory on the table. The
problem is is that you have literally, over eleven years, now,
twelve years, whatever, it's been shown zero proof that you
could actually do anything, and it's just gotten to the
point where to me, it's like, Okay, cool, you're probably
(14:03):
gonna make that twelve team playoff, but at some point
can you get a win of note? And it just
just doesn't feel like it's gonna happen. And so I
think that's that's the only point that I'm trying to make,
is that like, is that basically at a certain point,
if you're a Penn State fan, you just have to
be so frustrated solely because of the fact that you know,
(14:26):
like like you're you just gotta be banging your head
against the wall of like, we will never ever, ever
ever be able to win the games that we need
to win to have the seasons that we want to have.
And as you said, I know, Ohio State, it's a
good team with a good job, with good players and
all that stuff, but at some point you gotta beat
them at some point, And I just think if you're
a Penn State fan, you gotta be shaking your head
(14:46):
saying this is never gonna happen with this guy as
the coach.
Speaker 3 (14:49):
So I don't, like I said, you know, I don't
do social media really at all anymore. But I will
go to like the athletic where they have their discussion
section where I can look at what both fan bases
are saying to each other during the game, or I'll
go after and see what people think. And I saw
a comment from a Penn State I don't know if
he's a student or whatever after the game, has said yeah,
(15:09):
twenty million dollar roster makes a big difference. I'm like, dude,
you can spend the money too, Like Penn State's got
a ton of money. They got a pretty good law
school with Penn State, I mean, they got a lot
of pretty.
Speaker 1 (15:18):
Rigual the largest alumni like alumni base of any school
in America. I could be mistaken on that, but I'm
pretty sure their alumni association is the largest in the country.
Speaker 3 (15:28):
Like I'm not saying they have spent twenty million dollars,
but they're capable of it. Like you can't then say, well,
twenty million dollars makes a difference, right, But that's now okay.
Like in this new world of college football, quiet like
if they want to spend it, you have the exact
right that they do. They're not doing anything wrong. So
what you're saying makes absolutely no sense. Like, just quiet down.
You lost, and the reason you lost is because your
(15:49):
head coach is on game day usually not up to
snuff in these big games against these big teams. I
understand it's hard to win, but you're right, it's never
going to happen. And he's one in ten against Ohio State.
They never beat any of the good teams. And then
he sits down in the postgame and he says, is
this all on me? Right? You're fired? I'm sorry. That's
(16:11):
what I'm saying. If I'm at Penn State, Like at
some point, are you gonna do something different? At some point,
are you're gonna bring in somebody and give them a chance? Like, again,
bring somebody in. They can keep losing the games he loses, Like,
you're not gonna fall that far behind.
Speaker 1 (16:26):
No, Now, it's it is. It is bad one and eleven,
as I said against Ohio State. By the way, I
did look it up. According to largest dot org slash
culture slash college alumni networks, Penn State has the number
one alumni network in the world with these with seven
hundred or at least of American universities seven hundred and
fifty thousand active total living alumni, so the money could
(16:52):
be there. And I don't think money's the issue. I
just think it's it's that they just can't get over
the hump, and it is wild. I'll say this really quick.
Two things and then we got to get to break
and get to some other stuff. One, like you said
that offense was was so good early when they had
Saquon and to never be able to replicate that in
any way, shape or form is incredible. Two I heard this,
(17:12):
I thought it was a pretty good point. James Franklin
came up as a wide receiver coach and j Martin,
who's the last wide receiver that they had, Jacklon Dotson. Probably, Yeah,
that's pretty much it. As I was saying that, I
realized that he did play for them. But it's like,
you know, you look at Ohio State and we can
criticize Ohio State for this that the other thing. But
Jeremiah Smith Marvin Harrison Junior a Mecca book Jack R.
Speaker 3 (17:37):
Smith.
Speaker 1 (17:39):
Yeah, you know, he's one hand. So it's like, how
do they not have one guy that can separate, get
open whatever. I don't know, but I think, you know,
we're we're kind of, you know, kind of beating a
dead horse at this point, literally and figuratively. I just
at some point, you just you gotta win one of
these games. And it is Usherans repeat because year after
(18:02):
year after year, it is the same story. Penn State. Now,
what was the stat I said? One in fourteen against
top top five teams under James Franklin, one and eleven
against Ohio State. Fox Sports Radio enter towards Jason Martin
broadcasting live from the tyreck dot com studios. There is
a lot to still get to. Okay, so this is
a chaotic night in college football. Texas A and M
(18:24):
came in as the only undefeated team in SEC play.
They're down twenty four points at South Carolina. Speaking of
South Carolina, Clemson trailing Louisville by twelve with under a
minute to go. We'll come back. We'll react to that.
And oh, by the way, we gotta talk to usc
Trojans fight on not so much because they just lost
(18:46):
again to fall to four and five this season. What
is wrong with the Trojans. We'll discuss all that next

since we went to commercial, we have two Top fifteen
(19:47):
upsets have gone official. The two games they have both
just finished here within the last couple moments. The tenth
ranked Texas a and m Aggie's fall forty four to
twenty to South Carolina. Staying in the same state, Louisville
(20:07):
beats eleventh ranked Clemson thirty three to twenty one. Texas
A and M. Week ago we were singing their praises.
They end up losing this game. They fall to seven
and two South Carolina five one hundred thirty four yards
of total offense two hundred eighty six yards rushing almost
(20:28):
seven yards per carry. So that Texas A and M
team that was alone in first place coming into today
takes the loss. We now, by the way, have a
five way tie in the lost column in the SEC. Georgia,
Texas A and M, Texas Tennessee and LSU all sitting
there with one loss. J Mart first weekend in November.
Speaker 3 (20:48):
You remember the text I sent you right before that
game kicked off.
Speaker 1 (20:51):
You said South Carolina would win if Texas A and
M didn't pay attention.
Speaker 3 (20:55):
Yep, said You'd better be careful with this one doing
this because this was my night and this is not
a my night thing to say. But I'll tell you
who was laughing a lot this evening. That politician that's
a talker. Did you see?
Speaker 1 (21:12):
Elko tried to claim that he wasn't talking about Jimbo.
Speaker 3 (21:16):
Well, there was some speculation he was also potentially talking
about Brian Kelly. Who was his opponent on the field.
But I think he was clearly talking about Jimbo by
the way, we discussed that. But you could have maybe
tried to get there. But no, Elko, what are you doing?
Speaker 5 (21:32):
Dog?
Speaker 3 (21:33):
We know exactly what you were doing. And it was
all right, Like again, you were trying to talk to
your people and you took a side swipe and did
you not think people were going to recognize what you
were talking about?
Speaker 1 (21:42):
Yeah? First of all, let me say this is two
things on it, because even before we got off air
last Saturday, the Brian Kelly speculation began. Listen, whenever you
think about Brian Kelly, two things. One, you can call
Brian Kelly a lot of things. There has never been
a time in his sixty plus years walk in this
face of the earth that he's been called a fast talker.
Speaker 3 (22:03):
He is not a fast talker. The other thing I
would see as a politician though you know that's what
he did before he was in coaching.
Speaker 1 (22:08):
Yes, he is a politician, he is not a fact.
The other thing I would say, Elko said something the
effect of a bs er. You can criticize Brian Kelly
for a lot. He ain't a BS or as a
matter of fact, sometimes he's not enough of a BS,
or he says too much of what's on his mind
at that time. So except that was a pretty big BS. Yeah,
that was pretty bad.
Speaker 3 (22:28):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (22:28):
And he's a bad dancer too, Okay, okay, so uh okay,
I gotta get back out track here.
Speaker 3 (22:37):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (22:37):
Okay. So I did not much like Texas A and
M media covering the game last week. I was not
ready for that one. Uh, Texas A and M takes
a loss. Listen, you know what all I'll say, first
of all, shout out South Carolina man, and you know,
a couple of things on them. One could have maybe
(22:57):
should have bet in Alabama about two weeks ago. And
then of course, listen, they lost to Alabama by two
LSU to buy three. So that's a pretty good team.
But the story is Texas A and M. And it
was funny because another thing you sent me was kind
of some playoff odds and listen, I still think it's
a little early to get too deep into that, but
(23:20):
I will say, Texas A and M, the pathway was there.
Now you look at the schedule, you know they're seven
and two right now. They have of course lost on opening
night to Notre Dame. They lost tonight to South Carolina.
Next week they have New Mexico State, then they close
at Auburn and Texas. I don't think it's hyperbole to say,
you know, for the Texas A and M perspective, that
(23:41):
Texas game, you're probably playing to go to the SEC
Championship and also to go to the playoff. I think
if you lose that game, it's hard to see the
scenario nine to three when you probably lost three to
three of what the four biggest games on your schedule,
or certainly the biggest two if you had lose to
Texas and Notre Dame at that point. So you know,
I know it's a little early to start looking too
(24:04):
far ahead, but they're seven and two, They've already lost
to Notre Dame, they lose at South Carolina tonight, still
have Texas on the schedule. So yeah, I don't know
what the takeaway is, but I'm just kind of setting
it up, you know what I'm saying.
Speaker 3 (24:17):
I mean, it wasn't good for Texas A and M.
I think the odds jump jump from in the forties
to twenty two percent after the loss, and you're right, Like,
the schedule doesn't necessarily afford them that great an opportunity,
and they had the issue coming in of not being
high ranked to start the season, and so they made
(24:39):
it all the way up to number ten. And now
you lose this game to a South Carolina team, which
again is a pretty good team, but certainly a team
that's still growing into itself and is still capable of
losing some games that are close and things like that.
I don't know. I mean, here's the question, because we've
talked about both of them. Now, which one of you
think is a better football team? Text S and M
(25:00):
or Penn State.
Speaker 1 (25:03):
I would take Texas A and M. I don't know what,
which is.
Speaker 3 (25:06):
A huge indictment against Penn State because I don't think
A and M is that good. I'm not even sure
that the quarterback switch was the right decision.
Speaker 1 (25:14):
Yeah, it's tough, you know, let me ask you, let
me actually ask you this. So looking at the schedule,
we won't go into everybody's schedule, but Georgia still plays
at Ole Miss next week, and then they host Tennessee
Texas and Texas A and M still play Texas has
Texas has four SEC games left which is crazy. I'm
(25:35):
just gonna ask you. I think it's a little hard
to do on a right now, but how do you
think this is gonna shake out? Tennessee? It looks like
is gonna hold on against Kentucky, but they're not playing
lights out football. They still have at Georgia at Vandy
to close the season. I'm just trying to figure out
in my head who I actually like to make that
ultimate SEC championship game.
Speaker 3 (25:56):
Yeah, I don't know. Like we talked about so last week,
with this unbalanced schedule with the SEC, you can never tell. Man,
you just don't know who's good and who's not, and
or who's not that they're not good, but you know,
I don't think you recognize how good this team is
compared to this team. It's just it's difficult, and I'm
not sure that there is a fix for it. It's
just kind of part of the imperfection that is college football,
(26:19):
and it's it's got a charm to it, but sometimes
it can be irritating. In this case, I think it
could be irritating. I don't know, Like I mean, I
watched Tennessee tonight not look very good, but they're gonna
go ahead and win by double digits against Kentucky because
they just outlasted them in the fourth quarter. But if
they don't start playing better in the first half, they're
not gonna get unscathed through the rest of their schedule.
(26:41):
And that would mean with Georgia and maybe even somebody else.
Nico wasn't good early, he got better, and then he
had guys dropping football's and all this other kind of stuff.
We'll have the Georgia conversation a little bit later on.
But I mean, really and truly, Texas is still the
team that I believe in the most. But I don't
think any any of these teams like blows me off
(27:02):
the page. I think they were all capable of being beaten.
And that's what's gonna make the twelve team playoff as
a whole fun because I don't know that there's anybody
that you look at and just say Juggernaut can't be
beat a matter of fact, I know you can't say that.
So I do think that makes for a fun playoff
and exciting one that's gonna be very chaotic and probably
not go the way of chalk. So we're gonna have
(27:25):
a lot to talk about, and it's gonna be a
lot of fun. But up until that point, I still
have this same cloud in front of my face every
time I try to make heads or tails of this
team versus that team, especially in the Southeastern Conference.
Speaker 5 (27:37):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (27:38):
Again, as a quick reminder, we have a five way
tie atop the SEC standings with Georgia, Texas A and
M Texas Tennessee and LSU all with one loss. Jay
mart you mentioned Georgia. I want to come back. We'll
discuss a win that I don't think had anybody feeling
good about the state of Bulldogs football. Will discuss that next. First, though,
let's toss it over the news desk first time on
(28:00):
our show this evening to SAG You're take it away.
Speaker 3 (28:03):
Hello, gentlemen.
Speaker 2 (28:04):
You know we had fourteen games in the top twenty
five of college football here today the higher ranked team
has lost half of them. Wow, we will get to those.
There is one still yet to be final, but let's
be honest, it's been decided for a while. Top twenty
matchup at SMU as the Mustangs ahead of Pitt forty
eight to eleven with about four minutes to go. Pitt
(28:26):
entered with a seven to zero record and Tennessee has
just won its game. We'll get to that in a moment.
As for Number one Oregon still undefeated, a win at
Michigan thirty eight seventeen Michigan's record five and four. Number
two Georgia over Florida with two touchdowns in about the
last four minutes in Jacksonville thirty four to twenty. Ohio
State won at Penn State twenty to thirteen, Ohio State's
(28:48):
beating them eight straight years. Number five Miami had to
come from behind at home to beat Tooke fifty three
thirty one cam Ward five touchdown passes. Seventh ranked Tennessee
is just one at home twenty eight eighteen over Kentucky,
which falls to three and six. South Carolina at home
beat a tenth ranked Texas A and N team that
had won seventh straight Carolina forty four to twenty. The
(29:10):
final Texas Tech A winner in the reign at eleventh
ranked Iowa State twenty three twenty two on a touchdown
with under thirty seconds to go. At co number eleven Clemson,
Louisville beats the Clemson Tigers for the first time ever.
Had been oh to eight all time against him, thirty
three twenty one. The final thirteenth ranked Indiana nine to
oh now down ten to nine. Thing Early Still won
(29:31):
forty seven to ten at Michigan State Houston with the
upset of seventeenth rank Kansas State twenty four to nineteen
with two touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Nineteenth ranked Old
Miss got six touchdown passes from Jackson Dart in a
victory at Arkansas sixty three to thirty one. Twenty first
ranked Army Is eight to zer. It only led air
Force six to three at the half with a backup
(29:52):
quarterback twenty to three. The final, Minnesota won at Illinois
twenty five seventeen. You mentioned the playoffs. First playoff rankings
come out Tuesday. It's a twelve team playoff field now.
The five highest rank conference champions get automatic bids. The
top four get first round bys. First round playoff games
will be at campus sites before Christmas, as for the
(30:13):
quarterfinals for the College Football Playoff Fiesta Bowl on New
Year's Eve. The other three quarterfinals on New Year's Day,
including at the Rose Bowl. Dallas running back Ezekiel Elliott
is out tomorrow for disciplinary reasons. He was not on
the team flight to Atlanta in the MLS Playoffs, Atlanta
stayed alive, beating Miami two to one on a goal
in the ninety fifth minute, attending sixty eight thousand For
(30:34):
that game, NASCAR Infinity Race went to eric Almarola at Martinsville.
There was an NHL game in Finland again today. Florida
beat Dallas again four to two. As for the NBA
Golden States without Steph Curry missed the third straight game
tonight with an ankle injury. Nonetheless, the Warriors were ahead
at Houston by thirty one late in the first half,
blew that lead, but still won in overtime over the
(30:57):
Rockets one twenty seven to one. Twenty one one. Toronto
in overtime beat Sacramento Cleveland on a last second shot
by Donovan Mitchell.
Speaker 4 (31:05):
One.
Speaker 2 (31:05):
At Milwaukee, the Cavs are seven and oh. Boston six
and one after its victory at Charlotte. And as we're
talking college football, I need to say there is no
late night game tonight.
Speaker 1 (31:16):
I couldn't believed that.
Speaker 3 (31:17):
I just told Pat, I'm disappointed. I'm so disappointed.
Speaker 2 (31:20):
I really miss the PAC twelves. I mean I did before.
I really missed the PAC twelve. Like literally right now,
at eleven thirty eastern. Well, I told Pat, I said,
I'll put on the Colorado State game. He's like, it's over.
I'm like, what do you mean it's over? But yes,
we need it, we need it. Where's the work in
state when you need him? What are we doing here?
Is the latest game tonight? There was about a five
(31:41):
hours worth of weather delays at Rice, so they're just
starting the fourth quarter. Rice leads Navy twenty four to ten,
and Navy is four to oh in the American Conference.
For what it's worth, that game at SMU still has
about four minutes to go. Mustang's over pit forty eight eighteen.
And this note on Iowa as they beat Wisconsin tonight
forty two to ten. Our Bruce Feldman says the Hawkeyes
(32:04):
for the fourth time now have scored forty points in
a game this year. That is as many times as
they did in the previous four years combined.
Speaker 1 (32:12):
Back to you, speaking of the Hawkeyes, they play at
the Rose Ball Friday night. I'm thinking about going. I
haven't decided.
Speaker 2 (32:19):
You and I were, Sam, I'm gonna make the track
to Pasadena.
Speaker 1 (32:21):
Uh, well, it's not really a trick for me. I
live five minutes away. But that's right. I didn't even
know Iowa Sam was there. Now you know, my mom's
in town. She's never been to the Rose Bowl before.
It's it's me perfect. It's a thought. It's a thought.
I haven't made any final decisions yet, but.
Speaker 2 (32:35):
As you know, it is one of the great sports US,
not just football. To be watching a game.
Speaker 1 (32:40):
I've been. I was actually at the Michigan Alabama Rose
Bowl last year, although I had to leave it halftime
to come host Fox Sports Radio, so I missed the
iconic finish. But I've been to games there. It's an
unbelievable place to watch a game.
Speaker 2 (32:51):
It's almost literally no bad seats because it's such an
old stadium. There are no decks, there are no tiers.
It's just row one at the bottom row seventy seven eight, Yes,
sir no, So.
Speaker 1 (33:01):
We'll see if I want to go watch AMERICAUS. You know,
by the way, I don't know if you mentioned UCLA
getting a very nice win today against Nebraska.
Speaker 2 (33:08):
Done at Nebraska, which by the way, had missed an
extra point so they were down seven going on that
last drive. But they didn't have Ryl at quarterback for
the last drive. And yes, Nebraska lost another close game.
We might have a stat on that later.
Speaker 1 (33:22):
I was gonna say, I'll say this really QUI because
I want to get to break. I looked it up
today for fun. Last year they were five and three,
ended up losing their last four games to not get
boil eligible. But how about this the four losses three
by a field goal, won by a touchdown in overtime,
So four losses by a touchdown or less last year
to get boil eligible. This year they started five to
(33:43):
one and they've lost three straight, the last two by
single digits. So the last two years they've had six
games to get seven games to get boil eligible. They've
lost six of them by a touchdown or less.
Speaker 2 (33:57):
And this is the stat for maybe last seven seasons
for Raska football. What is their record in games decided? Oh, no,
eight points or less?
Speaker 3 (34:04):
O no man. Scott fross Lof's fifty by himself.
Speaker 1 (34:07):
I'm gonna say it has to be like twenty eight
and two or some two and twenty eight.
Speaker 2 (34:11):
It's nine and thirty three, and it's the worst in
the country. The last seven years.
Speaker 1 (34:15):
I find it hard to believe they've won nine games
by a touchdown or less, but by eight or less.
Maybe I maybe, I like.
Speaker 3 (34:21):
Said the thirty three wasn't the problem, it was the fact.
Speaker 1 (34:24):
Yeah, I don't believe the nine. I don't believe the nine.
So all right, thank you to say your Fox Sports
Radio Aer Toards dates Mart will come back. I do
want to discuss Georgia, Jmart. Uh, they get the win,
but uh, I don't know how good you should fee
about it. If you're a Towordia fan. We'll discuss that
next Fox Sports traty.

Speaker 1 (34:52):
Welcome back everybody, Fox Sports Radio, Aer Tors Jates Marn
broadcasting live from the Tirerack dot Cam Studios. Didn't want
to hit on one other game from this afternoon, J Mart.
We mentioned there's a five way tie in first place
in the SEC. One of the teams that is tied
to top the standings in that league is the Georgia Bulldogs.
(35:15):
Georgia did beat Florida today, the Gators thirty four to
twenty in the World's Artist Outdoor cocktail party rival that's
played every year in Jacksonville, although it is moving. Bring
it up, J mart A couple things here. So obviously,
we were on air two weeks ago when, of course
Georgia took care of business against the then number one
(35:35):
ranked Texas Longhorns to really kind of re cement themselves
as a major player in college football. But I'll say this,
J mart you know you played Georgia, you played Florida.
This today. Florida's original starter Graham Mertz gets hurt a
few weeks ago. Their backup DJ Lagway, who was a
(35:56):
five star true freshman, comes in. He gets hurt pretty
early in this game, and yet despite it, it is
a situation where, you know, you enter the fourth quarter,
it was twenty to thirteen at one point, you know,
basically it was twenty to twenty. After Florida scored Carson Beck,
(36:19):
who some people try to claim was gonna be the
number one overall picking the draft, he throws three interceptions.
J Martin kind of just feel like, you know Herbstreet
said during the game. But it's like George almost feels
like that team that has to be told they can't
win or they have no shot or whatever, because you
(36:40):
really look at their performances so far. You know, you
destroy Texas, but other than that, you struggle today. You
struggle against Kentucky in a game that easily could have
lost out of the gate. You struggle with Clemson, although
you win that one going away, and of course the
Alabama loss is that it feels like there are some
some stretches of great football with Georgia mixed in with
(37:03):
some average and below average stretches as well. What do
you make of the Bulldogs at this point of the season.
Speaker 3 (37:08):
They're just not They're not Georgia the way that we've
come to understand Georgia this last stretch, this last few years,
this last three four years, pretty much most of of
Kirby Smart's tenure. They're not as frightening. They've still got
a lot of talented guys, and a lot of guys
are gonna play on Sunday. I don't think they've got
as many as they have had in years past, though.
(37:30):
I think they are gonna get hit, maybe not as
hard as some just because they've still got a great
recruiting class and all this, but there's still guys that
would have gone to Georgia in years past that now
won't that now we're gonna go somewhere else to start there,
and it has spread out the talent. I just don't
think you can stockpile the way that you once did
unless you're spending twenty million dollars on the roster or
(37:52):
whatever it's gonna take. And even then, I still don't
think you're gonna have the depth because I don't think
you can pay people to sit on the bench. So
it's still comes down to what do you have on
the field on a regular basis. I still think they're
very good. But I said to you as we were
watching that game, like I sent you a text, and
I said, I don't think they're gonna win it this year.
I just I just don't. They don't have the look
(38:12):
of a champion. They have the look of a team
that has kind of skated by a few too many
times for my taste. This year. They have had like
you said, they had a great second half against Clemson.
They had a good second half against Alabama too, which
you know, made that game really interesting. But one of
the biggest things that we can easily see is that
(38:32):
Carson Beck is just not having a good year at best.
I mean, he's got eleven interceptions. I think in his
last like four games, he threw three in this game.
They weren't good. He's you see him like putting his
hands up to his helmet. This is a guy that's gripping.
This is a guy that's feeling pressure. This is a
guy that doesn't seem to be seeing the field particularly well,
(38:53):
making poor decisions. He's harming his draft stock big time,
Like just watching this and he's just not a Again,
I said, as it goes, every year that goes by,
Stetson Bennett becomes better and better. It really does, because
Carson Beck does not have that it factor that Stetson
Bennett did. Now, maybe Bennett had a little bit more
(39:13):
talent around him. I'm not suggesting that he didn't, But
Carson Beck is actually something that that team is having
to find a way to overcome far too much this year,
and I think it will bite them at some point,
even though I do think they'll make the playoffs certainly.
Speaker 1 (39:27):
Yeah, you know, it's funny. I know you're not on
social media anymore, but I did almost put out the
joke of, like, you know, did Stetson Bennett make Kirby
Smart's career and it's like it was tongue in cheek,
but it is kind of amazing. I mean, you know,
I again we mentioned we've kind of mentioned this with
JJ McCarthy in Michigan. It's like feels like in the moment,
(39:47):
the guy didn't get credit that he deserved and then
he leaves and you see, Okay, maybe he was better
than he thought. Feels like the same with Stetson Bennett.
Georgia does get to win. By the way, two tough
games coming up at a will Miss next week, followed
by Tennessee. We're gonna find out just how good this joy,
what your team is? Tell you what J Martin will
come back? Do you want to talk one more college football topic?
And we got to celebrate your World Series champion Los
Angeles Dodgers plus NFL. That's next Fox Sports. Are you

taking you up till two a m. Eastern time. Bernie
Fratdo of The Bernie Fratto Show follows us. By the way,
is this it tonight that I we changed clocks? J Martin?
I'm sorry, okay, Chriz, all right? So is that a
five hour shift for Bernie or a three hour shift?
You've done it.
Speaker 3 (40:51):
It's this is the fallback. This is the five long one.
This is the long one.
Speaker 1 (40:56):
Okay, Bernie Frato, drink your car coffee, buddy, Yep. Good
thing is Bernie's got plenty to talk about. And so
do we really quickly, j Mark, because I want to
move on to you know, just an awesome week in sports,
Dodgers winning the World Series, and then you know, got
to get to the NFL. Do want to just really
quickly touch on We mentioned this in Passing an hour one,
(41:18):
and we covered a lot of college football on hour one.
We'll get back to it an hour three if you
missed any of it. But real quicksc Trojans. They're four
and five. They are They have lost four of their
last five, their only win at home against Rutgers. They
are zero to four on the road. They are currently
(41:43):
if this is correct, and I don't know it is, Well,
there's eighteen teams in the Big Ten. They are currently
in fifteenth place out of eighteen in the Big Ten.
J Mart, I mean, is it a what is going
on with this team? Like they beat LSU in week one,
and even if we think LSU isn't that good, I
(42:05):
mean els, he's only lost one other time since then.
But goodness gracious. They start two and zero, which means
that they're two and five in their last seven, and
as I said, they've lost four of their last five.
What do you make of this team? Jmark?
Speaker 3 (42:19):
I mean your question, I think is the answer. They're
just not They're not usc the way that you would
expect a Lincoln Rawley team to be. The offense has
not even been consistent. Moss has not been consistent. They
I'm still trying to figure out exactly how they even
beat LSUD. You watched that game, You're like, okay, well, yeah,
(42:42):
they played some defense, especially in the first half. Maybe
things are looking a little better for them. Maybe Moss
actually is gonna be all right. They certainly don't have
all the talent, the skill talent that you're used to
but at the same time, like, this is not what
you signed up for if you're USC and this is also,
I think, not what you signed up for or if
you're Lincoln Riley. And that's why I predicted not that
(43:04):
he would be fired, but he may show himself out now.
Maybe not because he's getting so much money and maybe
he wants to stick around longer or whatever. But if
it were me, I'd want out because I don't think
it's gonna get better. I just there's something, there's something
functionally wrong there that I don't know that there's this
(43:24):
giant fix coming. I know that they've got a lot
of money and all this stuff. But at the same time,
if the bloom is not off the roads in terms
of his offensive mind, there's always gonna be an NFL
team that wants an offensive head coach, and Caleb Williams
may need one at the end of the year. And
so you look at that and you could easily see
a scenario where Lincoln Riley is near the top of
(43:46):
a list for the Bears. Now, if you're a Bears
fan listening, that might not be what you want to hear.
But Lincoln Riley knows that a coach offense, we think,
and we have seen plenty of evidence of it and
how he has made quarterbacks better throughout the years. But
this is a disaster. It really is, because this is
a team that I think a lot of people had
either borderline or in the College Football Playoff this year.
(44:09):
And not only are they not gonna be that, they're
not even gonna be in the vicinity of it. I'm
not even sure they're gonna let him buy tickets to
watch one of those games with some of the teams
that are good enough to be in there. It is.
I don't think it's like sometimes it's hyperbolic to say
some you know, some of the extremes, but I do
think it's a disaster. I really do. Like this is
(44:29):
this has been a terrible year for USC and it's
this is not how you want to enter the Big
ten either, Like this is not a good It's just
a terrible introduction and it cannot be fun for Lincoln
Riley at all right now, which is why I'm just
keep I'm gonna keep my eye on it because if
he's not there next year, I will not be surprised.
And again, I don't think it's because they're gonna let
(44:51):
him go. I think it's gonna because he might let
himself go.
Speaker 1 (44:54):
Yeah, only saving grace. And I know it's not what
anyone wants to hear right now, But as I said,
four and five, all five losses have come by a
touchdown or less, three of them by a field goal
or less, and four of them are on the road.
So one, if you never had to play on the road,
you know, that'd be really you know, you'd be unbeatable basically.
But a lot of them, by the way, you know,
(45:15):
you either had a lead at halftime. You know, the
Penn State, Minnesota and Maryland games you were in control
of for about three quarters, couldn't put them away. But
USC for people just joining us, did lose twenty six
twenty one at Washington. They fall to four and five,
two and five in the Big Ten, zero to four
on the road, and currently in fifteenth place in the
(45:38):
Big Ten standings. Right now, let's stay in La j Mart.
We spent a lot of time the last two weeks
talking college baseball and Major League Baseball World Series. We
were blessed to have John Paul Morosiat each of the
last two Saturdays, and just want to kind of wanted
to put a bow on the season. Dodgers did have
(45:59):
their victory parade yesterday, you know what, just for fun
for people who didn't hear it, there weren't a lot
of great sound bites. Show Hey Otani did speak. I
thought it was really special when he did say a
few words in English. But probably the most memorable thing
that came out of the Dodgers celebration came from Key
k Hernandez.
Speaker 3 (46:18):
There we got a New York in this guy. He
used to be fat, He's not fat anymore.
Speaker 5 (46:23):
His name is Joe. He came out of sad and
guess why we didn't even.
Speaker 3 (46:32):
Need to play because after that performance, we had already won.
Speaker 1 (46:37):
That was keyk Hernandez at the Dodgers victory celebration. J Mart,
don't know if you had a fat Joe taking strays
on the bingo card of the Dodgers Championship parade. But uh,
I will say living in La and and and you know,
I actually want your perspective because we have such an
La bias here in the Fox Sports radio studios. But
I thought it was an awesome day yesterday for the
(46:58):
fans and the fan base. I mean, I think it's
so easy to forget. Listen, you don't forget that there
was no parade in twenty twenty, but hadn't won a
World Series since eighty eight. That was the first Dodgers
Championship parade since nineteen eighty eight, well over thirty years.
And I thought, especially for a guy like Clayton Kershaw
that's been there ten, twelve, fifteen years, whatever, I thought,
(47:20):
it was a really cool day. Maybe it's because I
live in LA but thought yesterday was an awesome day
for Dodgers and their fans.
Speaker 3 (47:26):
Well, yeah, man, of course it was. And it's very
bittersweet for me one because I'm a Braves fan, but
I think in doubly so because I love watching what
Freddie Freeman did and I hate it at the same
time because that's one of the most historic performances you'll
ever see in the World Series and it wasn't in
a Braves uniform. Even though he won a championship with Atlanta,
(47:49):
that's gonna go down as the greatest moment of his career.
I think in terms of like how it's perceived and
how he played. Now for him, it may be the
Braves Championship. I understand how much being in Atlanta men
to him. But that was hard just to watch him
dominate but and know that he still could be doing
that for us. But that said, the Dodgers were the
(48:10):
better team. There were the team that showed up in
all the games. They were the team that made the
fewer mistakes. They came up clutch when it had to
be done, and the Yankees self destructed. Dave Roberts outmanaged
Boone severely in the series. I think just watching it,
(48:34):
the Yankees had talent, but a lot of the talent
didn't show up consistently enough. But more than anything else,
like the Dodgers just they looked like a champion. And
they looked like a champion from Game one on. And
this is one of those whereas this was not a fluke,
this was not man if they played ten times, they'd
win two of them. Know that they were just better.
(48:54):
They just were. They were far better defensively. They made
key plays on defense throughout the series that the the
Yankees simply could not duplicate. And even the base running
and just the little stuff, the Dodgers got it right.
They were the best team. They deserve to be the champions.
That was just a really strong performance all around for
(49:18):
everybody in a Dodgers uniform. So even as a Braves fan,
as difficult as it is for me, to see anybody
in the National League, especially a team that I've never
really cared for, do that they are beyond deserving, Like
they were a great, great team, and this is how
it should end, especially with what you paid and all
(49:40):
of those things. And for those fans. And I know
if you and Danny G's a friend, and you know,
I remember in the mornings just us sending messages back
and forth, him hating on the Braves, me hating on
the Dodgers. But and we have of course mutual friends
throughout Fox that are big time Dodgers fans. But they
were the best team in baseball and in the World's
(50:00):
I don't even think it was close. I just I
think one team really showed that they were going to
win the title and they did.
Speaker 1 (50:07):
Let me ask you a question, and this is I'm
curious from the outside perspective. I was thinking about this
during the World Series because I didn't I didn't grow
up a Dodgers fan by any stretch. I grew up
on the East Coast. But you know, since I've been
here my wife. My wife's a Dodgers fan, and you
kind of get wrapped up into it, into it when
you're in the city. Especially for me, that's not like
a diehard day in, day out baseball guy. But I'm
(50:29):
curious what is the outside perception on like the Dodgers
and how they spend their money, because I was thinking
about this watching the World Series. It's like, you go
back to the late nineties early two thousands, and we
all remember the Yankees dynasty with Jeter and Petted and
Rivera and whatever, and they just felt so unlikable. And
it's like you watch the Dodgers and I know they're
(50:51):
spending more than everybody, and they've got the three MVPs
and dah da da dah and whatever. But it's like,
you know, Freddie Freeman, you know, huggin is after Game
one and we know his son's going through some stuff,
and you know, Mookie Bets just seems like the consummate
teammates even show. Hey, I mean, he struggled, but you
know you could tell his heart was in the right
place even though he's struggling. He's playing through that that
(51:13):
injury that we saw during game two last Saturday. I
I don't know how I would feel if I was
like a diehard of one of their competitors. But it's
like they seem like a likable group despite the fact
that they clearly have resources that basically nobody else in
baseball has.
Speaker 3 (51:29):
H Yes, I mean I think that's true. I definitely
think that. I'm like saying it through gritted teeth. Yes,
they're likable there, you know they're they're not. There's certainly
not a bunch of polarizing guys that are hard to
root for. For sure. It's certainly Freeman. I'm always gonna
root for Freddy Freeman. There's not not gonna be much there.
(51:52):
But you're right about Bets. I mean, Bets says that's
just class acting. He's great player, he's a great defensive player.
He goes at it sold every single time. Yeah, I
agree with you. I think I think everything you're saying
is accurate. It's it is just one of those situations
where that team should have won it coming into the year.
(52:13):
You can look at it and yeah, there were some
teams that underperformed. Mine was one of them. Dealt with
injuries and all this other kind of stuff. But at
the same time, like the Dodgers had to cash one
of these in at some point like this, this was
getting to be one of those if not now, then
when kind of situations. This was exactly what And I
also think this is what you wanted if you were
baseball this year. You got the perfect World Series in
(52:34):
terms of the matchup, you got good ratings numbers. And
then past that show, hey, o Tani wins the World
Series his first year in LA and then you have
this storyline up where is Sodo going Is are the
Yankees gonna find a way to keep him? Is it
gonna go cross down to the Mets. He says he's
open to any team in the league. Basically, he just
wants to get paid. And he's the one guy in
(52:58):
that lineup in the World Series that you could count
on pretty much throughout the series. Almost everybody else had
a dry spell except for Soto. So he made himself
more money, whether or not it's in New York in
the same uniform, New York in a different uniform, or
somewhere else. But yeah, this was the perfect scenario for baseball.
I watched a lot of this World Series, maybe not
(53:19):
every out, but at least eighty eighty five percent, and
it was just it was entertaining, even if you felt
like you knew how it was going to end.
Speaker 1 (53:27):
Oh, no doubt. And by the way, I would say,
I don't think for most of Game four and five,
you did feel like you knew how I mean, you
felt like you knew how it was going to end,
but you didn't really know. And you know, listen, I mean,
I'm sure every host on this station has their own
story of what they were doing during Game five. But
you know, my wife and I were sitting there watching
it and she's like, I can't watch this anymore. And
(53:49):
we were about and I said, let's watch one more bat,
And of course that was the fifth inning where everything changed.
But yeah, it's weird for a you know, five game series.
Game five was essentially a throwaway with the bullpen game
we got, you know, pretty much every game except for
Game three was pretty entertaining. But the Dodgers, they do
(54:09):
get the victory and they are your World Series champions.
First time since twenty twenty, first time with a parade
since nineteen eighty eight. Fox Sports Radio aer Tors Jason
Martin broadcasting live from the Tyreck dot Com studios will
come back. We'll switch to the NFL where one team, Jmart,
I don't think they're getting a parade this year, the
Dallas Cowboys Parade of Tears.
Speaker 3 (54:32):
Maybe that parade out of town or some of the people.
Speaker 1 (54:35):
Yeah, well we got to discuss that next because they're
not very good right now and I don't see a
pathway to get much better. We'll talk Cowboys next. Fox
Sports Radio, Welcome back, everybody. Fox Sports Radio, Aer tors
Jasbart broadcasting live from the Tireck dot Com studios. Do
want to talk NFL and football fans? Be sure to
tune into Fox Sports Radio every Sunday morning, beginning at
(54:56):
ten am Eastern seven Pacific for Countdown to Kickoff, presented
by bet MGM, Brian No, Jeff Schwartz, a professional better
Bill Krakenberg will have you covered for three hours before kickoff.
Every Sunday morning, listen to count Down to Kickoff, presented
by bet MGM. Right here on Fox Sports Radio and
the iHeartRadio app. J Mart, do want to switch gears
(55:18):
to the NFL? And I have a little bit of
a confession to make something I probably should not say.
On National Sports Talk Radio but I'm gonna do it anyway.
Last Sunday Night, forty nine Ers Cowboys, two biggest brands
arguably in the NFL. I had to turn it off.
(55:43):
Mary on your p's and Q Sidney.
Speaker 3 (55:45):
Can you can? I give you an even bigger confession.
Speaker 1 (55:50):
I mean, play the music.
Speaker 3 (55:51):
Mary. I have to.
Speaker 1 (55:56):
Say it again.
Speaker 3 (55:57):
I never turned it on.
Speaker 1 (55:58):
You never turned it on.
Speaker 3 (56:00):
I knew there was no point.
Speaker 1 (56:05):
It's bad. I mean, yeah, it is, you know, and
we're being facetious, but we're not. Is like the Cowboys. Listen,
anybody that listens to sports talk, anybody that watches sports TV.
You know, the Cowboys move the needle. They are so
unwatchable right now, and I mean literally to your point,
you turn it on. I had a turn. I can't
(56:26):
do it. They're so bad. They lose to San Francisco
thirty to twenty four. But here's the bottom line. It
was over going in the fourth quarter. They're down twenty
seven to ten. You know, put up a couple scores
late to make it look interesting. It was not. They're
so bad. I mean, it's just to me. And we've
talked about it a million times, but I remember saying
(56:48):
it two three years ago if they had a window
when Micah and CD and all these guys were on
rookie contracts. They are not. They have lost four of
six after the season opening winning against the Browns, most
of them in embarrassing fashion. I mean, they got destroyed
by the Saints. The Ravens game was very similar to
the Sunday night game against San Francisco. They it wasn't
(57:09):
close and they made it close late. And of course
the embarrassing loss to the Lions where the Lions are running,
you know, shovel passes to the offensive tackle, you know,
with eight minutes to go in the game. I don't
know what there is to say, you know, listen, I
feel like everyone probably on this network has said everything
there is to say about this situation. But they're not good.
(57:33):
There's no pathway to getting better, and I think worse
than anything. J Mart, like, they're not even fun to
watch it. Oh yeah, and it's like, you know, we
could go through the league. I mean, there is I think,
to me, a reason of pretty much watch just about
every team in this league. And there are teams that
aren't good, but you could take something from them, you know.
(57:56):
I'm just trying to think, off the top of my
head right now, Chicago bears my not be good. But
you want to see what Caleb Williams is doing.
Speaker 3 (58:02):
I got one that that's not and that's the one
in the city that I live in.
Speaker 1 (58:06):
Well, I mean, they're they're the most unwatchable team in
the league, I think, But they're they're horrendous. But it's
the Cowboys though. But you know what I'm saying, Like, No.
Speaker 3 (58:14):
I know the Cowboys are inherently supposed to be interesting
just because of the uniform they wear.
Speaker 1 (58:18):
Yes, is there a pathway to get it better? Is
there a pathway?
Speaker 3 (58:23):
Not? Not? Not this year? And look when we came
into the year, I said I had him under five
hundred because I just it didn't feel right in the
off season. Now, did I think it was gonna be
this bad? No? But you got backfighting, you got chirping,
you got coaching, coach and owner, and the radio. You've
got players going after the radio. You've got all of
(58:43):
this kind of stuff. You've got Dak Prescott, who I
don't even know at this point how much of it
is even on him. I kind of feel sorry for him.
I agree quite frankly. The defense hasn't been very good,
and they've been banged up and hurt going into the year.
Nothing has looked good. McCarthy, I mean, McCarthy's another one, right, McCarthy's.
(59:03):
You kind of know what you're gonna get it. It's
gonna be fine. But you're the Dallas Cowboys. Shouldn't you
try to get better than that? Like it should be.
The ceiling on this team is not high and the
floor is much lower than we thought. Like this is
far worse, I think than most of us could have
envisioned coming into this year. But in terms of a fix,
absolutely not. There's no free agent you can bring in
(59:26):
it's gonna change it around. There's no scenario. This just
put on the year. Honestly, your best player, I heard
this from somebody, maybe multiple people in sports media. Your
best player right now might be your kicker, no doubt.
I mean really, And that's look he's good. That can't
be the case. That can never be true. It just
(59:47):
can't be. And for it to be that way, and
you're the Dallas Cowboys at some point, you know, Jerry
Jones is more stubborn than we think, because he's kept
coaches far longer than he needs to win multiple situations.
He continues to meddle in public and meddle even behind
the scenes and all this stuff, like at some point
(01:00:10):
he either needs to back away or he needs to
actually make some moves and then let the guys do
what they're paid to do. And until he gets out
of his own way and out of their way, I
don't think anything's going to change. I don't know that
it's just a McCarthy problem or just at this problem
or just to that problem. But I do know that
guys like Michael Parsons are going to want to go
somewhere else soon. And you don't want to lose him,
(01:00:32):
and you don't want to upset Ceedee Lamb, and you
don't want all of this infighting, and you don't want
all of this mediocrity. And we said last week, and
I think it is now almost for sure or true,
they're the worst team in that division. I think they're
worse than the Giants. I do. I think there are
more playmakers right now on the Giants than there are
(01:00:54):
on the Dallas Cowboys. Eagles we know they are and Washington,
which that should never be the case for rookie quarterback
in Washington Washington is one of the most exciting teams
to watch in the league, no doubt. And that's just
if you're the Dallas Cowboys. Just hang your head in shame,
like this season is over, but it's gonna be painful
(01:01:15):
for the fans, and you're gonna get put on television
in these afternoon windows anyway because you're the Dallas Cowboys
in your draw ratings. I'll tell you somebody else. I
feel bad for Tom Brady because we just have to
call a lot of this direct.
Speaker 1 (01:01:28):
Hey, really quick. This is a total pivot that I
don't think that I didn't prep you on. I know
he's sort of our coworker. Do you have any strong
opinions on Brady doing the ownership slash broadcasting thing.
Speaker 3 (01:01:44):
It's weird and I can understand why you might kind
of balk at it, But I don't know that it
matters because, I mean, his ownership is that gonna affect
how he talks about the team. It's like if he
calls a Patriots game, is there a problem? If Romo
calls a Cowboys game, is there a problem? Like there's
(01:02:06):
I don't his ownership stake's not gonna affect what he
says I that doesn't bother me all that much. Like
I felt like that was a little bit blown out
of proportion. When oh, well this is going to create
all sorts of issues. I kind of shrugged my shoulders.
I don't know this is that big a deal.
Speaker 1 (01:02:22):
Yeah, I mean, you know, I do think it is
a little like get him Todd. Yeah, it's like, dude,
you're getting paid thirty seven million dollars a year to
broadcast games and you want that cut of the pie too.
It seems a little like he should have to choose.
But you know, I'm not his employer and I'm not
the NFL, and so it's not my place to say.
Speaker 3 (01:02:43):
I I.
Speaker 1 (01:02:45):
Don't love it, and I'm with you. I don't think
it's like the biggest conflict of interest. But I saw
somebody say it might have been. I can't remember who's
you know, there's a million people talking NFL. But it's like,
at some point you gotta choose. You want to be
a front office guy, you want to be a broadcaster, Like,
just just pick one and go with it. But yeah,
Tom Brady, tom Brady, But yeah, Tom Brady's called far
(01:03:06):
too many cowboys. If there's anything that's gonna drive him
out of broadcasting. It might not be the ownership thing,
might be having to go to Dallas every week to
talk about that team. So Fox Sports Radio Era towards
Jason Martin broadcasting live from the Tyreck dot Com sudis,
we'll come back talk about another certainly precarious situation in
the NFL, this one in Indianapolis. Joe Flacco's back, baby,
(01:03:27):
But what does it mean for Anthony Richardson. We'll discuss
that next to Sega, though, Let's get into the news desk.
What's trending to Sager?
Speaker 2 (01:03:33):
And for those who didn't hear, Dallas running back Ezekiel
Elliott is out tomorrow for disciplinary reasons. He was not
on the team flight to Atlanta. Speaking of which, tonight
is an anniversary. November the second, twenty twenty one, this
occurred on Fox TV.
Speaker 3 (01:03:48):
West Side Swanson to first.
Speaker 2 (01:03:55):
Brands closed down a world series title on this night.
Speaker 1 (01:03:58):
Betch you should have gone we're talking about it at
the time.
Speaker 6 (01:04:01):
We were talking about this quite a lot that week
on this show about because remember they wound up clinching
on the road and had a chance I think in
the home game five and then clinched on the road.
Speaker 2 (01:04:11):
But tonight is the anniversary of that. You mentioned the
World Series. We just finally got a Yankee Dodgers and
it delivered the past week, and it delivered in the
ratings opposite the NBA on TNT Tuesday, it was about
one million viewers for basketball for TNT and about a
week ago ESPN had NBA and that was eight hundred
(01:04:31):
thirty thousand viewers opposite the Game one World Series Classic,
and then hockey on ESPN four hundred twelve thousand viewers
on Tuesday night opposite the baseball and the basketball.
Speaker 1 (01:04:43):
Real quick, I think the one hundred thousand nationally.
Speaker 2 (01:04:46):
For the NHL for a night.
Speaker 1 (01:04:48):
Ouch did it ended up out rating on Monday night?
The Yankees the Giants here, Yes, I believe so.
Speaker 3 (01:04:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:04:56):
And then the clincher, the Game five comeback for the
Dodgers at Yankee Stadium, over eighteen million viewers, which means,
according to Nielsen ratings, that game outdrew every pro and
college men's basketball game of the last five years and
the series as a whole. These five games Dodgers Yankees
averaged over fifteen million and I read another fifteen million
(01:05:18):
internationally led by Japan.
Speaker 3 (01:05:20):
Well it only is great TV. It really was like
it was. It was even though it was only five games.
It was a really entertaining five game series.
Speaker 1 (01:05:28):
The fifth game specifically was awesome, Like you know, because
people forget you guys, don't. But looking back on it
the day after, it's like, Okay, they overcome the five
to nothing deficit, then they overcome the six to five deficit,
and then they take the seven to sixth deficit and
immediately boom, Aaron Judges on second base. You're like, the
tying runs on second base. It was just an awesome,
awesome Game five.
Speaker 2 (01:05:48):
I also read it was the first major league game
ever playoffs or not that had all those errors that
the Yankees made all in one game. A catcher's interference,
a block, five hundred run, all of these things happening
on the same night. Let's get to college football. Is
Number one Oregon, still undefeated, was a winner at Michigan
thirty eight seventeen. Number two Georgia beat Florida thirty four
(01:06:09):
to twenty with two touchdowns in about the last four minutes.
But Carson Beck is now the first player for a
ranked team in a decade to do this to throw
at least three interceptions in a game now for a
third time this season, but Georgia is seven to one.
Ohio State won at Penn State twenty to thirteen. Ohio
(01:06:30):
State's beating them eighth straight years. Miami over Duke in
a comeback fifty three thirty one. Tennessee Valls ranked seventh,
beat Kentucky tonight twenty eight eighteen, and South Carolina down
tenth ranked Texas A and m forty four to twenty.
Aggie's had one seventh straight SMU beat Pitt forty eight
to twenty five. The late game at Rice is finally
(01:06:50):
final after five hours worth of weather delays, they got
going for good tonight in the first quarter. They finally
resumed and Rice beats Navy twenty four to ten. Navy
had and four to zero. In the American Conference, Arizona
State won at Oklahoma State in a bad weather game
today forty two to twenty one. Doug got leaves at
Oklahoma State, of course, not only because of basketball reasons,
(01:07:11):
but they're doing the show there. Everybody's out at Oklahoma
for Monday afternoon show on Fox Sports Radio, so that
got in to this. Oklahoma State came and of course
it's a weather delay in the Big Ten Northwestern when
in overtime at Purdue Ucla with the win holding on
at Nebraska Iowa forty two to ten over Wisconsin, and
USC was stopped on its last two drives on fourth
(01:07:34):
downs lost at Washington twenty six to twenty one Huskies.
The final, so USC this season has one of the
worst records in games decided by seven points or less,
one and five in those situations Kansas zero to five,
by the way.
Speaker 1 (01:07:49):
What about Nebraska, Yeah, nine at thirty three.
Speaker 2 (01:07:52):
That's over the last seven years. Okay, I'm just talking
about SC this year one in five, seven points are
less deciding. Mississippi State was one and seven, but they
got to play UMass today and beat him forty five
twenty and UKNN is six and one at home. Yes,
they are beat Georgia State last night thirty four to
twenty seven in the NBA Phoenix five and one, after
(01:08:13):
beating Portland Boston six and one, after winning at Charlotte
and Cleveland seven and zero after a last second shot
by Donovan Mitchell goes in to win at Milwaukee. The
Bucks are one and five, and you talked about the
Philadelphia situation at the top of the show Philly's one
and four and for all the games so far they
have not had due to knee injuries Joel Embiid and
Paul George. There was the shoving incident with a reporter
(01:08:36):
in Philly within b doing the shoving, and the quote
from the columnists he shoved had been Joel Embiid consistently
points to the birth of his son as the major
inflection point in his career. He often says he wants
to be great and lead the legacy for the boy
named after his little brother who died in an auto accident. Well,
in order to be great at your job, you first
(01:08:58):
have to show up for work. Embiid has been great
at just the opposite. He has consistently been in poor condition.
That was part of the column. Someone who witnessed the
incident today said, in all the shouting Embiid did in
the locker room when he saw this reporter, this columnist,
he said, you can say I stink, You can say
whatever you want to me as a player. Don't ever
(01:09:18):
put my dead brother's name in your mouth. Don't talk
about my family. Don't bring him into this. You want
to talk to me like a man. Talk to me
about basketball, that's different. But if you ever talk about
my family again, we're going to have real problems. And
they were shoving and team security stepped in.
Speaker 1 (01:09:31):
To sayer, keep that quote handy, So jamar, let's chat
about this really quick, Disager, Do you want to read
the quote from the column again? Really quick? And I
want to set this up. Joel Embiid reportedly, according to
Shamsharani and others, got into a shoving match with a columnist.
The columnist referenced his brother who's no longer with us,
and his son, Disager, Please go ahead and read the excerpt.
Speaker 2 (01:09:52):
That Embiid points to the birth of his son, Arthur,
as the major inflection point in his basketball career. He
often says that he wants to be great to leave
a legacy for the boy named after his little brother,
who tragically died in an automobile accident when Embiid was
in his first year as a sixer.
Speaker 1 (01:10:09):
Thank you very much to sagre Jmr Embiid's right, by
the way, Really, dude, I'm all on Embiid's side on this.
Speaker 3 (01:10:15):
After listening to that, why do you write the first
part of that, like, why do you even invoke that part?
You can say he wanted to be great without mentioning
the rest of it. Yeah, and you got no problem.
There's no there's no reason to invoke that because it
doesn't have anything to do with the overall point. You
can say him being great and leaving a legacy. You
(01:10:36):
don't have to mention the name at all. I'm on
Embiid's side one hundred percent. Keep the family's name out
of that. That's completely a roll.
Speaker 1 (01:10:43):
Let me play Devil's advocate. If and I don't know
Embiid's exact quote originally, but if the exact quote was
I want to be great to leave a legacy for
my son or whatever, I guess you. I guess you
don't have to say that the sun is named after
the brother who's deceased. But if Embiid has said, uh,
(01:11:06):
you know that this is why I want to be great,
I don't think there's I don't have a problem necessarily
with referencing the sun if that's if those are Embad's
own words. Now do you have to reference that the
sun is named after the dead brother? I don't know,
but I feel like if this is em Bead's quote,
and you're essentially paraphrasing a quote that he has kind
(01:11:27):
of made pretty common knowledge. I don't have a problem
with him doing that the columnists.
Speaker 3 (01:11:31):
No, I mean not not the not I think it's
the degree to which he like went into detail when
it doesn't matter.
Speaker 1 (01:11:39):
The only reason you.
Speaker 3 (01:11:40):
Do that is because it's like a rap battle and
you want the people behind you to go, oh, that's
just I do not like that at all. That seems
low brow. And I disagree.
Speaker 1 (01:11:53):
I disagree if you're a if you're a newspaper cap
I I didn't hear that with malicious intent. I think
that there could be I think you could have made
the point without exactly referencing the brother. But I also
think like like and I I'd say, this is somebody
who has a little bit of a of a print
(01:12:14):
background many years ago. Is like, you know, I think
about some of the conversations that I had with my
editors about uh, does this need to be in there?
Does that need to be in there? I do think
the context of if Embiid has said I want my brother,
you know, I want you know, I want to be
great as a legacy to my son, then I have
(01:12:36):
no problem with him referencing the sun. If it if
it contextualizes, like like if it contextualizes, Hey, you said
you want to be great. You know you said you
want to be great. This is the reason that you
told us you want to be great, and you're doing
nothing to live up to it. I didn't really feel
like that was malicious at all.
Speaker 3 (01:12:55):
I agree with what you're the way you're describing it.
It's not there though. It's because there's a comma, and
then he can take there's no reason to invoke the
deb brother. There's no reason to go into detail about
why he was named after him and all this other
kind of stuff. Just say he wants to be great
for his son, and being great's going to involve him
being more available. Like the idea of going further and
giving detail that's completely unnecessary and isn't going to enhance
(01:13:19):
the quote. I just feel like the only reason you
do that is I don't think there's an a board
I'll just say, I don't think there's an above board
reason to do that. That seems like that seems like
you're trying to get a rise out of somebody. Because
the first part of it, I agree with you. I
don't really have any problem the first part of it.
It's the second part after the comma, where it's just like, really, man,
(01:13:42):
we really had to go there, and for Embiid to
kind of take umbrage to that and say that's really
uncalled for. I don't I have a hard time being
anti Embid on this.
Speaker 1 (01:13:54):
Yeah, I don't know that I'm anti Embiid. I don't
really know that I'm anti the columnist either. Is I
think I think the one place I'll disagree with you
we got to get back to disagre here in half
a second. But I don't I don't believe that he
threw it he threw the reference to the brother in
there just to take a dig at Embiid. I think
he thought he was adding context that helped the conversation,
(01:14:20):
and it was something that I think probably could have
been left out, so you know, we might have to
agree to disagree on this. I don't think he purposely
put the brother's name in there just to get a
rise or to get a little pot shot at joelmb
But Fox Sports radio er tors Jason Martin, broadcasting live
from the Tirech dot Com studio, is fascinating story coming
out of Philly. I'm sure we'll have more on it
(01:14:41):
in hour three. I'm sure everybody on the network will
have more on it throughout the next day or so.
But we'll come back. We will get to back to
Disaga because he's got a lot on a lot of
other things that we missed throughout the day. That's all next.
Fox Sports Radio, Welcome back, everybody. Fox Sports Radio er
Tords Jason Martin broadcasting live from the t dire dot
Com studios as we do every week at around this time.
(01:15:05):
Do you want to toss it over the news desk
with the Sager for his extended update to Sager, the
floor is yours.
Speaker 2 (01:15:12):
A lot of football to get to. Pretty Much everything
is final in sports, except for the late NBA game, where,
believe it or not, the Clippers are about to lose
in their new home again. This will be oh and
four in the arena that they just opened in recent
weeks to start this season in Inglewood. It's located between
the LA Rams Stadium and the LA Airport basically, and
(01:15:32):
the Clippers are going to be oh and four in
it because in the final minute they're down at home
to Oklahoma City one two ninety one OKC will be
going to six and oh Also in southern California, today Breeders'
Cup was held at Del Mar Racetrack in San Diego
and a horse died there. Today. A three year old
from France collapsed galloping off the track toward the stables
(01:15:53):
after running the mile and a half five million dollar
turf race. The cause a quote cardiac event. The Breeders'
Cup Classic went to Sierra Leone, a horse that had
suffered a close loss in the Kentucky Derby. Now to
college football, we had Ohio State beating Penn States again
today twenty to thirteen. The final. Penn State's offense no
(01:16:16):
touchdowns in this game. It had first and goal twice
and failed to score interception late first half, stopped on
a fourth down fourth quarter, so Ohio State's beating them
eight straight years. Penn State quarterback Drewe Allard did play
after last week's leg injury, had one interception. Will Howard,
a Pennsylvania native, two touchdown passes for Ohio State, but
two turnovers as well to make it interesting, pick six
(01:16:39):
early fumble at the goal line as well. Coach James
Franklin at Penn State one and twelve against top ten teams,
and his club led ten to nothing in the first
quarter of this one. As for Stanford football, in the
past four seasons against FBS opponent, Stanford is nine and
thirty three, which AP says is the worst mark any
(01:17:00):
Power Conference team in that four year spin, worse than Vanderbilt.
Vanderbilt this year, meanwhile, has beaten Alabama and Auburn in
the same season for the first time since nineteen fifty.
We will get to the SEC in a moment. That
Stanford lost today was fifty nine twenty eight at NC State.
Also in the ACC, Syracuse in overtime beat Virginia Tech.
(01:17:22):
Florida State is one in eight after losing it home
to North Carolina thirty five to eleven. The Vanderbilt win
was seventeen to seven at Auburn, which is one in
five in conference. Oklahoma scored up a storm today because
they got to play Maine fifty nine fourteen is the final.
Wyoming was one in seven but got a high scoring
win at New Mexico. No Hawaii game going right now
(01:17:45):
because they were on the road, winning on a touchdown
in the final seconds at Fresno State twenty one to twenty.
Boise State, ranked fifteenth, won its game last night easily
against San Diego State, and there was a hail Mary
at the end of the Eastern Michigan a touchdown with
no time left on the clock. It got him within
twenty nine twenty eight against Toledo, Eastern Michigan decided to
(01:18:07):
go for two, passing complete. They lose at home anyway,
twenty nine to twenty eight. Tennessee Valls are ranked seventh
in the country, but they were trailing at home to
Kentucky tonight ten to seven in the third quarter, as
Tennessee was zero for three on field goal attempts at
the time, but the Balls came back for a twenty
eight eighteen victory. Kentucky now one and six in conference.
(01:18:28):
The Florida Georgia game in Jacksonville went to the Georgia Bulldogs,
rank second seven and one now, beat the Gators thirty
four to twenty. Gators quarterback DJ Lagway was carted off
with a hamstring injury. Florida punted on eight of its
first twelve drives, had only thirteen first downs in the game.
Florida is four and four, and that includes wins against
Samford and ucf two touchdown passes for Carson Beck but
(01:18:51):
three interceptions as well. Number one Oregon is nine to
zero after winning at Michigan thirty eight seventeen. Heisman candidate
Dylan Gabriel nearly three hundred yards pass two total touchdowns,
but Oregon wide receiver Ted Johnson left with an apparent
shoulder injury. Michigan's only five and four. It plays at
Indiana next Saturday. Wolverines today ten drives only eleven first downs.
(01:19:12):
Thirteenth ranked Indiana is nine to oh. It was down
ten nothing after the first quarter at Michigan State, but
still won the game forty seven to ten. Curtis Rourke
did play, had four touchdown passes in Indiana's defense had
seven sacks, and Houston upset Number seventeen Kansas State twenty
four to nineteen with two touchdowns in the fourth quarter.
(01:19:33):
Houston for the game was twelve for twelve, passing one
hundred eleven yards in a TD so Houston's offense twelve
drives only ten first downs, but they pulled off the
upset in front of twenty three thousand fans.
Speaker 1 (01:19:45):
That game, by the way, is interesting because Kansas State,
with the loss now trails Colorado and Iowa State, as
well as BYU and lost column. There's a pathway for
Colorado to play for a Big twelve title. Fox Sports

(01:20:50):
and I cannot wait to hear what he says. Bernie
Freddo will be on air following us fifty eight minutes
from now. Jay mart Let's reset college football Crazy Saturday.
By the way, I know we say it all the time,
but Disager said, all those top twenty five teams in action,
you know, a bunch of them lost as ranked opponents,
(01:21:11):
non ranked opponents, whatever. As we came on air the
you know, the Texas A and M game went final.
Of course Clemson lost as well. Do want to start
with the Ohio State Penn State game. Ohio State does
get the victory twenty to thirteen. Ohio State didn't play
at least offensively. Defensively, they played very well Offensively, they
(01:21:34):
were not great, but Penn State's only touchdown comes on
a Will Howard picked six. Other than that, Ohio State,
to its credit, their defense held up. Their defense did
what they had to do. Penn State, as Desager just
told you, falls to one and twelve against top twenty
our top five teams. Excuse me in the James Franklin era,
(01:21:55):
they finished with under three hundred yards of total offense,
one hundred and twenty yards rushing, and I think most importantly,
they had that goal line possession in the fourth quarter
at the time they were trailing twenty to thirteen, first
in goal inside the five three straight runs, none of
them pick up the touchdown. A fourth passes incomplete, Ohio
(01:22:16):
State gets the ball back, they never give it back
in a twenty to thirteen win, and.
Speaker 3 (01:22:23):
Penn State is who we thought they were because this
is what they are year after year after year under
James Franklin. And go back to the podcast if you've
missed the first hour of the show, we will rehash
all of that here. But James Franklin doesn't win these games.
He just doesn't. And that play calling sequence is a
prime example of you gotta do better than that. Like
(01:22:45):
everybody watching New Really, you're just gonna run straight into
the teeth of their defensive line that's dominated you all
game long, three times in a row, and then you're
gonna tell aler go make a hero play for us
on fourth and goal, and he's going to throw into
triple coverage and then you're never gonna touch the football
again over the last five minutes. It's just not good enough.
(01:23:07):
And I understand it's hard to beat Ohio State. I
get that, but there's a lot of other guys that
can take that job and lose to Ohio State the
way you do. James, that's the problem. And I just
look at how long he's been there. You forget how
long he has actually been and since Sakwan and Trace
(01:23:29):
McSorley in that crew, they've been a paper tiger. I'm
gonna make a comparison. I don't know that it is
fully fair, but I think we're gonna find it out
over the next couple of weeks. Again, Penn State is
the Big Ten's Old Miss. They are a team that
beats up on nobody's and then runs into the big
(01:23:50):
dogs and finds a way to lose. And this happened before.
For the most part, it happen before Lank Kevin got
the Ole Miss too. But like James FK, he's never
won these games. Let me just like just a something
that just happened.
Speaker 1 (01:24:02):
Let me just jump in for half a second. I
totally understand the analogy. I think it's totally fair. The
only thing I would say, Old Miss is not essentially
on par from a resources facilities.
Speaker 3 (01:24:12):
No, absolutely, right, that's good.
Speaker 1 (01:24:14):
That's a good point, and that's the only point I
was gonna make. They don't have what Texas or Georgia does.
Penn State pretty much has everything that Ohio State and
Michigan needs and never beats them.
Speaker 3 (01:24:25):
Yeah, I totally I mean, that's a great point, and
that's even more of an indictment on Penn State. I
think the way it's like this, when I see Penn
State against a good team, before the game starts, I
have a certain feeling going in, like there's a way
that my head feels, there is a way that my
heart feels. There's just a way that I sense that
game is going to go. And it's similar to the
(01:24:45):
way I feel when ole Miss is playing in a
big game. And this dates back to Hugh Freeze and
even before you freeze, like they're good sort of, and
then they play a great team and I just remember
watching Saban just beat them by forty in a lot
of those games and embarrass them, and then they go
on to lose three four games in a row. Like
I don't think Penn State's gonna do that, because I
don't think that their schedule puts them in a position.
(01:25:08):
I think right now they have a seventy seven percent
chance to make the College Football Playoff even after this,
and I think we think they're going to. And at
the same time, I don't want to see him there
because I know what's going to happen, because this is
what they do against good teams. This is what James
Franklin coach teams do. And it's I understand he's not
out there throwing every pass, he's not doing this, but
(01:25:31):
the coach them up philosophy. I just don't see it
with him, not against these big, top flight opponents. And
that's a hot job in a great sports town that
loves that team, that that team basically runs that entire city,
and there's a lot of guys that'll take that job,
and I think you should probably consider calling one of
(01:25:52):
them after this year. Unless you're good being this, unless
you're good being a three loss team most years, that
is is like sort of interesting into your first big
test and then we find out, oh yeah, there's no
there there, and then you just go right on back
into the mediocre line where yeah, I knew you weren't
a contender. Like that isn't the way that I would
(01:26:15):
want to be if I was a Penn State fan. Like,
at some point, it needs to it needs to change.
You need to give somebody else a shot, give somebody
else a voice. Frank going to get another job, as
he should now that he's a bad football coach. I
just don't know that he's a championship football coach on
that level, I don't think that when I see him
coaching on Saturdays. There's never been a time when I
(01:26:36):
have felt particularly a freed of what he's doing. And
in fact, if I were a Penn State fan, I
would just be clinching my teeth left and right to
find out what way is it that we're going to
get beat this time?
Speaker 1 (01:26:50):
And that's exactly what happened, not only today, but in
most of the big games. And I think the disappointing
thing is in most of the big games there's some
sort of coaching decision that back to bite you, and
this one was no exception. The play calling in the
red zone was terrible. Really quickly, does anything change from
(01:27:11):
your perspective on Ohio State? So Ohio State, I want
to just set this up really quickly. They were their
starting left tackle got hurt against Oregon. Then the backup
left tackle gets hurt in the game against Nebraska. They
struggle against Nebraska twenty one to seventeen. They win, but
you know, you go back to that game. I mean
they could not run the football at home against Nebraska.
(01:27:31):
Finished that game with sixty four yards rushing on thirty
one carries. They come out today, they get the victory,
and you know, they really do it in a game
in which Will Howard essentially gave Penn State fourteen points
because pick six goes right into the end zone for
Penn State, that's their only touchdown. But then also Will
(01:27:53):
Howard's running in for a touchdown fumbles it on the
one yard line out of the end zone for a touchback.
And so just bite all that they do get to
win twenty to thirteen. And I'll just say, like, listen,
it's Ohio State. We say it all the time about
Ryan Day. This is why you're paid nine, ten million
dollars whatever it is a year to win games like this.
(01:28:13):
But he hasn't won a lot of big games like this.
Now he's had great success against Penn State. But I'm
talking more in terms of top twenty or top five
teams on the schedule. And I will say too, like
we talked about it last week, if they had lost
this game, they were basically knocked out of the Big
Ten title picture. Now they're obviously in it. They actually
have what is now a very interesting game a couple
(01:28:34):
weeks from now against Indiana.
Speaker 3 (01:28:36):
I can't wait just to see that because you're going
to learn that day you know what coach Sig really
is in terms of what this year. I mean, if
you're Indiana, you better back up the truck and pay
him as much as human as possible right now because
a lot of teams coming after you. Have no question.
Speaker 1 (01:28:52):
Anyone that's going to have a job opening is going
to come after him. Indiana is nine to zero. Indiana,
how about this. They play Michigan home next week and
then a bye. Indiana's gonna be favorite against Michigan. They
could be ten and zero going into that Ohio State game,
and if Ohio State takes care of business, which they should,
their next two are against Purdue and Northwestern A combined
(01:29:15):
let's see here, five and twelve, A combined three combined,
two and nine in the Big Ten. I mean that
Ohio State Indiana game is basically to go to the
Big Ten championship game if Oregon keeps winning. Just from
the Ohio State perspective, are you is this? Are you same, impressed,
(01:29:36):
more impressed, less impressed? It doesn't matter. This is what
you need to do. What do you make of the
game from the Ohio State perspective.
Speaker 3 (01:29:42):
Kind of shrugged my shoulders. It's a good win, but
I mean, they didn't like leap off the page as
just some incredible football team. We know the talent, think
we know we know what Judkins is, we know what
Jeremiah Smith is, we know what Will Howard is capable
of being. We understand they've got playmakers on the secondary,
They've got a lot of beef on the d line.
We understand that there's a lot of talent on football
(01:30:05):
field for Ohio State. At the same time, I shrugged
my shoulders and just I came kind of like, yeah,
they want another one. But I'm not ever particularly impressed.
I was not like I didn't lose anything for them today,
but I didn't gain anything either. I don't think I
learned anything new. I don't feel any better about them.
I certainly don't feel any worse because you still went
(01:30:26):
into a hostile environment and you won that game, even
though I would argue that that play calling sequence that
Penn State gave you in the last six minutes made
that a little bit easier for you, but you still
had to stiffen up and stop them on three consecutive
runs and then stop the fourth down play. But I
don't look at Ohio State and feel like, Yeah, that
team's gonna win a title. But I think the question
(01:30:50):
is who do you watch and feel that way about
at all? Because I think that Georgia and Ohio State
are very similar in that regard. I watch them both,
I see flaws. I also see at moments a different gear,
and both of those things are relevant, and both of
those things could you know, come to pass it. But
(01:31:10):
either one of those teams gets hot and they win
it all. Yes, But I kind of don't think either
Ohio State or Georgia are gonna win it all. I
just I just don't have that sense about them. There's
something I don't know. It's like the steak is a
little overcooked, like it's a little dry. There's something, there's
something that's just it's not moist enough. There's something off.
(01:31:31):
It's and I don't really know how to say it,
but you just watch it and you just don't have
a championship feeling about it.
Speaker 1 (01:31:38):
Well, and I think, and I think we're gonna get
this more and more in the twelve team playoff era.
Is I think that that's how you know. It's kind
of like We feel that way sometimes about NFL teams
or NBA teams or college basketball teams going into a tournament.
They might be the one seed, but it a a
one seed, but it kind of feels off and you
can't quite figure out what's wrong with it, but it's
(01:31:59):
just not distant enough. And like I said, I think
you see that in the NFL sometimes. You know, you
could think of a million examples. I'm trying to find
one this particular season. I don't know that there's a
great one, at least as of right now. You know,
like the forty nine ers, probably not the best example,
but it's like, okay, like we know they're kind of
a championship contender, but they're not really this year, and
(01:32:21):
it doesn't really feel right. The other thing I will
say really quickly, we should at least acknowledge if we're
gonna say that Ohio State and Georgia something just doesn't
quite feel right. Big picture, we gotta go ahead and
give a little bit of credit to Dan Lanning and
the Oregon ducks Man for sure, thirty eight seventeen win
(01:32:42):
in the Big House today, I listen, I know Michigan's
struggling as weird as it sounds, and it will sound weird.
I thought they actually put up a pretty good fight
defensively Michigan and Oregon right now is just a juggernaut,
you know, I know, the loss to or the win
excuse me over Illinois last week loses a little bit
of the bloom because Illinois lost again this week, but
(01:33:02):
Illinois was a top twenty five team. Oregon won by
darn near thirty last week. Thirty eight to seventeen is
the final score. So who has that? Look who is
playing at the highest level. I would put Oregon probably,
you know, probably right now pretty much alone in that category,
at least as of right now here on November two.
Speaker 3 (01:33:21):
Yeah, I agree. I mean, I think they'll be number
one when the first CFP rankings come out on Tuesday,
and deservedly so. When Dylan Gabriel is a legit Heisman contender,
who's just a torching torching teams Landing got that signature
win against Ohio State. There's a couple tough games still
coming for them, but entering the playoff, presume they're healthy,
(01:33:48):
they're gonna be tough for anybody to beat because they
can score with everybody. They're just fast, they got a
lot of skill talent, and they're playing with a lot
of confidence, and they've got i think, experience at the
quarterback spot in big time game. And I mean, certainly
there have been other things that have changed for Oklahoma,
but Dylan Gabriel was there a year ago. You look
at Oklahoma's rating and ranking right now, I mean, they
(01:34:09):
beat Maine, They're actually already gonna be the underdog in
their last three games Oklahoma, think about that for a
second and think about what Dylan Gabriel was. I mean,
I don't think we gave him enough credit for what
he was able to pull off a year ago, and
you look at it now and it's just, yeah, okay, yeah,
(01:34:30):
he's really good. And at the same time, they've got
a solid staff and Landing really has them believing. So yeah, clearly,
I think right now they're firing at a level that
I can't. There's nobody else in college football that I
look at and say is firing on that level. I mean,
the other team that we'd never talk about at all
is Miami, and Miami, of course won by three touchdowns
(01:34:53):
over a two lost duke team, and Cam Word had
five touchdowns and he's another Heisman contender. Still don't know
what to make of them, because I don't know what
to make of anybody they've beaten, and you know they
you know, Clemson getting beat now as well, they're going
to have an opportunity to prove it because they're the
only team in the ACC at this point. I think
it's even worth watching.
Speaker 1 (01:35:14):
Well, first of all, a couple very interesting things on Miami.
We'll be quick on this, but you mentioned they won
by twenty two. They trailed, yeah, thirty, they trailed twenty
eight to twenty five, and then they trailed, well, it
was thirty two to thirty one, so they had a
one point lead with thirteen minutes to go. They win
(01:35:36):
by twenty two. The point spread in that game was
twenty one and a half. J. Mart And I know
you're not a gambler, but imagine that's incredible. Yeah, imagine
Miami's up by one with thirteen minutes to go. You're like, okay,
I got this. No, no, no, no no. They rip off
twenty one straight points in the final twelve minutes to win.
And by the way, you talk about the frustration of
(01:35:57):
imbalanced schedules, J. Martin, it's something you know, we talked
a little bit about last week. You mentioned Clemson losing today.
If the ACC Championship was played today, Clemson at six
and two five and one would not be in the
championship because Miami is undefeated. SMU is eight and one,
(01:36:19):
five and zero in the ACC. Oh, by the way,
none of those three teams play each other this year,
SMU Clemson.
Speaker 3 (01:36:26):
In Miami, so let's not forget. By the way that Miami.
You talked about the comeback that they had in this game.
I mean, they came back against Cal when they were
down like eight thousand points, and they also came back
against Virginia Tech. So they they're this team that finds
a way to score big, lading games. I don't know
if you can win your way to a title doing that,
(01:36:49):
it's pretty impressive, but I don't think that it's something
that is repeatable for long. So I wonder if one
of these times are going to get behind and not
be able to make that comeback.
Speaker 1 (01:36:58):
I would think it's some point it would catch up
with them. I mean, I know they're nine to zero,
so you're three quarters of the way through the schedule.
By the way, you know, you talk about not being
able to come back camp. Listen, it's a little early
for this. I think Kim Ward's winning the Heisman though.
Scott right now twenty nine touchdown passes, five touchdowns, one
interception today, four hundred yards passing, and I think because
(01:37:22):
of the way they play, first of all, it sets
him up to have some pretty spectacular moments, but because
the defense has been so bad, like he's got no
choice but to basically be great in all these games.
By the way, he's got four games already with four
plus touchdown passes this season. J Mart so twenty nine
touchdown passes and he has well over at this point
(01:37:44):
three thousand yards passing. So it's a little early. It's
talk Heisman, but I think because of the way he plays,
because they keep winning, I think he'll be in the
mix throughout the season.
Speaker 3 (01:37:52):
I think it's fair. I mean, I don't really have
anything that ad I think I think we already thought
he would be a finalist, Gabriel Bio finalist. We'll see
if Jens is going to be there in the end.
But I would look at the two quarterbacks right now,
and I mean, if Oregan is undefeated and number one
in the country, then Gabriel is going to have a
pretty good case. But Oregon, we knew it was gonna
(01:38:14):
be good Miami. For cam Mood to come in and
do this and for them to pretty much on his
back do what they are doing. I don't think you
could really argue it. I don't know that it's a
banner Heisman year. But at the same time, like cam Mood,
you couldn't possibly ask for much more than he's given.
Speaker 1 (01:38:31):
You can't ask for much more. Miami improves tonight. To know,
as j mart said, don't really have much to talk
about with them. They keep finding ways to win. Win
by twenty two today, after trailing late in the third quarter.
Fox Sports Radio er towards Jason Martin will come back
when we do. We've talked to a lot of college football.
It's time to switch gears to the NFL, the big
one at lambeau Field tomorrow. What to expect Lions Packers,
(01:38:56):
that's next. Fox Sports thirty Welcome back, everybody. Fox Sports Radio.
Eric Torres Jason Martin, broadcasting live from the tire Rack
dot Com studios, talked to a lot of college football
throughout the show. Do you want to get back to
the NFL. By the way, if you missed any of
the College Football Talk, make sure to download the podcast
(01:39:16):
wherever you get your podcast. But with that said, let's
go ahead, switch gears, get to the NFL. Week nine
is upon us. By the way, first of all, before
we get to the before we get to the Lions Packers,
jmart And I'm not asking this tongue in cheek. I'm
asking seriously, Thursday night, does that do anything for you?
(01:39:36):
You know, obviously the Jets get the win best that
they've looked. You know, DeVante Adams had that drop early
but scores the touchdown late. Does it change fundamentally anything
about how you feel about the Jets and the season
that they're in the midst of.
Speaker 3 (01:39:50):
No, I mean it's better than had they lost, I guess,
And I mean the first half was unwatchable football, and
then you had outside of what Gara Wilson did. But
the second half at least you saw some signs of life.
Maybe they got out of the darkness that we heard
(01:40:10):
about prior. But I think the bigger point is, I mean,
half the offensive line, your left tackles out. If you're
Houston CJ. Shudge running for his life all night. He's
got Tank Dell out there, but he has no Nico Collins.
He's got no Stefan Diggs for the remainder of the year.
He's got backups everywhere. They're hurt all over the place,
(01:40:31):
and the Jets had to outlast them to win the game.
They had to. They had to come back and win
that game because they couldn't move the football. And at
one point late in the second quarter, I think Aaron
Rodgers had thirty seven yards passing, Like, you better win
that game at that point. I mean, the Texans were
half a football team, it felt like out there, and
(01:40:52):
it's not like it was a thunderous performance, but I mean,
I guess you feel better than had they lost that game,
because that would have been even worse. But you're watching
that and you think the Jets are going anywhere, I
just you're gonna have to show me more evidence to that.
It just seemed like a team that won a game
against a barely functional football team at that point that
(01:41:14):
was just so battered and beaten entering and you had
it at home, and you had a couple of spectacular plays,
and you had a couple you had a couple of
moments in the second half, where oh yeah, that's Aaron Rodgers.
But at the same time, it's just not consistent enough.
It's I think it's similar. You've seen this a couple
of times where the Jets have done this for a half,
(01:41:35):
and I think that, you know, we talked about Georgia
earlier in the game and earlier in the show, and
I think you could say the same thing about Tennessee,
where they'll give you a good half here and there
as well, or in most games they'll give you a
good half. But how long are you going to be
able to do that? Miami? Even maybe you can make
that argument, like I need you to be a drama,
not a sitcom, and right now the Jets are a sitcom.
(01:41:56):
They're a thirty minute show, and they need to be
a sixty minute show. But more so than anything, they
just seem more dysfunctional. And the more you watch them,
the more you realize this was not a Robert solid problem.
Speaker 1 (01:42:07):
Oh yeah, no, Well, that that last part I definitely
agree with, and I agree with the sentiment as well,
is that, listen, I have no vested interest if the
Jets are good or not. I was hoping, you know,
Rogers would would turn back the clock a little bit.
But uh yeah, I think this is kind of a
one off, you know. I mean, listen, Garrett Wilson had
the obviously the insane touchdown grab, not to mention the
(01:42:30):
insane other grab that it was like, you know, inches
away from being batted down. Somehow he gets on the
other end of it. So yeah, I'm not ready to
call it anything special here, But let's switch gears. Mary
give us a little music. We'll start talking about Week
nine and obviously the big one Detroit at green Bay.
(01:42:51):
Of course, green Bay Jordan Love is expected to play,
dealing with a groin injury. I got thoughts j Marp,
but what do you expect to see tomorrow Sunday in Lambeofield.
Speaker 3 (01:43:02):
I mean it's at Lambeau, so, I mean you would
feel like you'd get the best version of Green Bay.
But it's hard to pick against Detroit right now. They're
not just beating teams, they're demoralizing teams. The offense is clicking,
the defense is making plays. They are playing very much
to the character and just kind of attitude of Dan Campbell.
(01:43:25):
I think they're both very well coached teams. I think
the Lions have more horses right now, and you have
a hobbled Jordan Love on top of that. He's gonna go,
but how much is that gonna hamper him? Is that
gonna stop him? And I also think and maybe this
would be the game where they get him back on
track with Jayden Reeds just kind of disappeared since Roman,
since Romeo Dobbs got suspended. He's come back and they've
(01:43:47):
started throwing them the football a lot more and that's
not a bad thing. And Tucker Craft has emerged, of
course this year as a tight end. But I personally
just I find it hard to go against Detroit at
this point. I've seen him do it at home and
on the road, and I think they can go to
Lambeau and win that game.
Speaker 1 (01:44:01):
Yeah, I'm I'm with you.
Speaker 4 (01:44:03):
Is uh.
Speaker 1 (01:44:04):
You know, first of all, Jordan Love at less than
one hundred percent. The other thing too, is you know
Jordan Love is kind of turned the ball over quite
a bit. Yeah, yeah, leading the NFL and turnovers and
the Lions, I don't know if they're the they're they're
tops in the NFL, but they're plus ten and turn
turnover margin, so they're forcing a lot of turnovers. Obviously
Jared Goff isn't giving the ball back. You know. Uh,
(01:44:26):
I don't really have much else to add. I just
I'm excited about this game. Should mention, by the way,
you and I are filling in for Dan Byer and
Carrie Rhodes five to eight pm Eastern Red Zone Radio,
so we will be on air during this game. Cannot
wait for that.
Speaker 3 (01:44:42):
Let's let' see.
Speaker 1 (01:44:42):
You know, we gotta we got a minute or two
before we gotta get back to to Sega. Let's go
ahead and just hit on a couple other games from
from Sunday. Uh, you know, not a huge monster slave.
First of all, let me ask you this really quick,
Chicago Arizona. How do you think Chicago bounces back after
that debacle last week?
Speaker 2 (01:45:02):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:45:02):
That was bad. I honestly don't know. I tend to
think they'll be okay, but this could There could be
some really special plays in this game. I mean, we
know what Caleb's able to do some of the time,
and we've seen what Kyler is able to do, especially
you know, Marvin Harrison Junior's been there to make some plays.
They have that really nice comeback win over Miami. I
think that Chicago will bounce back. Now, do I think
(01:45:25):
they win the game, I'm not sure. Arizona's kind of
a Arizona's a dangerous team that I definitely think there's
a ceiling on them. But at the same time, they win.
They're winning a lot of games, and I think that
they have been I think they've They've been in the
positive column this year for sure. But I certainly think
that the Bears will not have a repeat of last week.
(01:45:47):
That was that was a rough go and it was
a tough watch too. Yeah, it was a tough watch.
Speaker 1 (01:45:52):
I tend to think with not only the way that
it ended, but specifically the discourse around it, you know,
the Tyreek Stevenson stuff, whatever, I think we get something
close to the best effort from the Bears. I think
the big question is is that enough to win on
the road in Arizona. How about the Sunday night game
Vikings coming off two straight losses, it's Flacco time in Indianapolis.
(01:46:14):
We didn't really get a chance to talk much about
the Anthony Richardson Joe Flacco switch. I'm not totally surprised.
I mean, listen, I think the thing really quick. I
would just say everybody focuses on the tap out and
this and that. But listen, you know you mentioned the
stuff going on in Houston right now with all the injuries.
The division is there for the taking. And I know
(01:46:36):
they're they're they're you know, back in the lost column
right now, but the division is there for the taking.
Flacco played well, you know, you got talent around him,
with Jonathan Taylor back and whatever. So I was not
surprised with the with the news that that Flacco was
getting the start, and I am intrigued to see how
he looks on Sunday night against Minnesota.
Speaker 3 (01:46:58):
Yeah, and we'll probably have a long discussion about Anthony
Richardson in weeks to come. You and I are not
surprised that this has gone the way that it has,
just because we weren't sure he needed to leave. You understand,
you want to go make your money and all of that,
and he certainly has done that, but at what cost
to his football future long term because he really wasn't
(01:47:20):
ready and didn't have the experience I didn't think coming
out of Florida, and I understood, man, but look how
impressive he is, and you can understand it's like, well,
I mean yeah, but if he doesn't play well when
he can't be out there, you know, how effective is
he really you look at that game as a whole.
You're right, it's certainly the division is up. But TJ.
Hockinson being back for the first time this year, he's
(01:47:43):
a top flight tight end and a target that Sam
Darnold really needs right now because I think Jordan Addison's
only getting about four catches a game or four targets
a game right now. They might need to balance that
a little bit more. But even coming off the two losses,
I mean, the Cults are coming in there with Flacco,
and I actually think that's the right call. I think
Flacco does give them a better chance to win because
(01:48:05):
I think he makes better decisions with the ball and
then you can maybe open it up a little bit
more for Jonathan Taylor.
Speaker 1 (01:48:13):
Minnesota just lost too straight, obviously controversial loss to the Rams.
Tough division. You know, you don't really want to fault
them for losing to you know, maybe the best team
in the league in the minute, in the Detroit Lions.
What do you expect to see from them on Sunday Night.
Speaker 3 (01:48:30):
I think they're I mean, I think they're better than Indianapolis,
and I think they're better coach than Indianapolis. Even though
I think Styke's Styke's pretty good, I just think O'Connell's
on a different level. And I feel like this is
the game where Brian Flores can get the defense kind
of rolling again. For Minnesota, they've they've leaked a little
bit of oil in the last couple of weeks, but
(01:48:51):
I could see them having a strong night and Flacco
maybe having a grip a little bit too much. I
think Minnesota will win very good.
Speaker 1 (01:49:01):
All right, I'll tell you what. That's week nine in
the NFL. Maybe come back on the other side of
the break and talk about another game or two, but
I'll tell you what we do for the final time
this evening. Have to get to the news desk, Desaga.
What is trending?

Jamar one other game real quickly from week nine in
(01:53:54):
the NFL. We talked about the Cowboys earlier. You can
listen to that conversation an hour two of the podcast.
As you think there's any chance they get right on
Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons. The game is in Atlanta,
of course, Atlanta playing some pretty good football overall, sitting
at five and three, went over Tampa the last time
we saw them take the field.
Speaker 3 (01:54:15):
Any chance, sure, but I'll take Atlanta. I mean, I
think that it's more likely that you don't get right,
but it is kind of I mean, are they is
Atlanta some team you're terrified by? No, there's still a
lot of talent on Dallas's team. I just think that
every it doesn't feel like a galvanizing moment for them.
I don't see that on the immediate horizon. So I'll
(01:54:37):
take Atlanta. But if you want me to say, yeah,
there's a chance, sure, there's a chance. I mean, I
don't think that there's It would be a stunner that
they would go onto the road to vaunted Atlanta and
beat the Falcons on a random Sunday in the middle
of the season.
Speaker 1 (01:54:54):
Probably a poorly phrased question by me.
Speaker 3 (01:54:57):
How about no, I just know, I'm just saying like,
I just feel like that's the only the answer is
just yeah, they could. I don't know if i'd call
it a get right game, just because I still don't
think they'd be right even if they won the game.
Speaker 1 (01:55:07):
How about your your Denver Broncos. They go to Baltimore,
not saying they're gonna win, but I don't know if
it's quiet or not. But they've won five of six obviously.
You know in the AFC, where there's a lot of
teams that aren't living up to expectation, Cincinnati, you know,
you go on and on down the list. Denver's in prime,
wasn't Denvers over under five and a half? Coming into
(01:55:27):
the season. Well, they're five and three, they can get
to six. They can hit that over the first week
in November. That'd be a nice little ticket to cash
for the Betters in Baltimore Sunday at one pm Eastern Jmark.
Speaker 3 (01:55:39):
Yeah, I mean, I don't feel good about this one
for my guys, but I'm just excited to see them
be five and three and the defense playing the way
that it has for Vance Joseph, and I'm still waiting
to see them, like fully, like pull the lid off
of Bonis and see what he can do with that offense.
But there's still something missing in that receiving corps. There's
(01:56:02):
there are a few things that you don't like. But
I do think he's getting a little bit more comfortable,
a little bit more confident. I think they're getting a
little more confident in him. He's making some better reads.
They're keeping it fairly simple for him. But at the
same time, he's I think he's playing better football. I'm
still trying to figure out how Baltimore lost last week.
(01:56:23):
And imagine this, right, you put James Winston in there
and you win that game against Baltimore, how do you
feel if you're a Browns fan considering the Deshaun Watson experience, Well,
I think how that all went down, and then as
soon as he goes out, the Browns look not just
competent but good well all the way around. Hey, I
(01:56:46):
know you got Nick Chubb back, but you just look
competent at quarterback again, and it is unreal.
Speaker 1 (01:56:51):
Well, it's so many emotions, and that was one of
the things I had on the list that I forgot
to mention earlier. But how about Stefanski. Stefanski literally wins
with everyone except for Deshaun Watson. So you said, how
do you feel as a Browns fan? And I know
it was a rhetorical question, kind of like my can
the Cowboys win question, but it's like it's like, I
know exactly how you feel. You feel, like, what are
(01:57:11):
we doing? We wasted a season and we got this
albatross of a contract because again, Stefanski won with Joe
Flacco when Deshaun got hurt. Stefanski won with Baker when
he got hurt. I don't remember much of it, but
Stefansky won with PJ. Walker there for half a minute,
you know, and it's like, you know, so one, I
think he's a really good coach. I think Deshaun is
(01:57:31):
just it's over. It might literally be over with the Achilles,
but uh, you know, he's obviously gonna try to make
a comeback if Rogers and Kirk Cousins could do what
he can too. But I just think it's it's it's
pretty much done for you.
Speaker 3 (01:57:44):
Know, yeah, I mean it's it's it's just amazing to
watch that. And then you look at James You're like, well,
is Jamis about to have a his Baker Mayfield moment there?
You know, he has an opportunity again, And you always
get there's moments with James where you're just like, man,
if he could just harness this a little bit more often,
(01:58:05):
I mean, he could be really special. But he's fun
to watch. He is, like the Browns are now again
fun to watch. They were unwatchable with Deshaun Watson and
now they're the exact opposite because we know they have
studs on defense. You get chubbed back. You know you've
got talent, you got in Djoku back now as well.
You know you lost a receiver there certainly, and that's
a big deal. But I just it's just amazing how
(01:58:28):
your fortunes change there and then you beat Baltimore, and
I'm not sure what that was. Quite frankly, I think
Baltimore will beat Denver. But it is a good defense
in Denver, and maybe Javonte Williams can run the ball
because Baltimore's done a poor job it stopping to run
this year and makes it interesting. But I just like
the fact that it's a five and three Denver team
(01:58:49):
that is, you know, I think overperforming based on every metric.
Speaker 1 (01:58:52):
We got about we got about twenty seconds left. J
Mart Alabama at LSU next week, basically an elimination game
when war come out on air next Saturday. Who's gonna
have the big win that keeps him in the playoff race.
Speaker 3 (01:59:04):
Ession, I have no idea too. I mean too, He'll
be honest, I mean I have no idea. I think
I'll take Alabama, But no, you know what, I have
no idea. I'm not even gonna answer that question. I
got no clue.
Speaker 1 (01:59:19):
Well, you got plenty of time to think about it.
But I'll tell you what.
Speaker 3 (01:59:22):
We do.
Speaker 1 (01:59:22):
Have to get out of here for the evening. Should mention,
by the way, J Mart and I will be in
for Dan Byer and carry Rhodes, five pm Eastern Tomorrow,
Red Zone Radio. So excited to be reacting to the
early game and in real time reacting to the late game,
but we got to get out of here. I want
to thank the crew, Marymack on the board, Producer Pat
Fillin in for Ian did a great job. Steve Disager
from my partner Jason Martin, I'm er Torres. Make sure
(01:59:44):
to download the podcast. We talked a ton of college football.
You don't want to miss anything there. Bernie Frado's coming
up next five hour shift for Bernie. Cannot wait to
hear what he has to say. This is Fox Sports
for you.
