and watch highlights.
Speaker 3 (01:12):
It is my favorite thing to do.

I don't watch reality TV. I'm like sports sports are
my reality TV, and like I feel like my life
is a reality show. Like my husband's a musician. I
do that whole crazy backstage life. Our sports lives are crazy.
It's like I don't need to watch somebody else go ham.
Speaker 4 (01:46):
I'm just I get two secondhand embarrassed.
Speaker 2 (01:48):
Yeah, I can feel that. So yeah, I go back
and when I'm watching, like, what's your like? What do
you just sit back and enjoy on a random night? Yeah,
I watch best of highlights? But like before I was born,
like stuff that I didn't get to win, I didn't
get to witness, and I want to watch it, and
someone spent time to put together a whole compilation and
you know what, now I'm fired up for this. What
(02:11):
Jake Paul Mike Tyson like he I hope he still
has his left hook. It's going to be amazing. It's
gonna be awesome. But anyway, guys, we are broadcasting live

so blown up last year. I think I had Arizona
winning it all and they got knocked out in the
first round.
Speaker 3 (02:54):
Oh wow. One thing about me as an ASU grad,
I will never put Arizona.
Speaker 4 (02:59):
In the final before and I didn't. I didn't. I
won't even.
Speaker 3 (03:04):
If like that's where the odds are. I know that
they can. That's a true fan that's respects on.
Speaker 4 (03:09):
Devil heart won't let me.
Speaker 2 (03:10):
I get it all right, Well, guys, we've got a
great show line up for you today. We're gonna have
Laker's host Chris Peter McGee take us inside the Lake
Show's final stretch Lebron's historic week kind of update on
his injury.
Speaker 3 (03:21):
We got him coming up in about fifteen minutes.
Speaker 2 (03:23):
Then we have Fox Sports NFL writer Greg Ahman fresh
off the combine with all the inside info we have.
You know, We're just we're just gonna have a great time,
you know what we're gonna do. Let's kick things off
with some quarterback news of the week, because we got
a lot and I'm a feeling it's gonna be this
domino effect once it gets started, like who's available and
(03:45):
where their land. But let's start with a man who
was for sure on the move, because it was announced
this week that the Broncos well part way with Russell Wilson.
He will officially be released when the new league year
starts on Wednesday, but he was given permission to meet
with teams and uh yeah, First off, what does this
(04:07):
mean for the Broncos?
Speaker 3 (04:08):
Right?
Speaker 2 (04:08):
They will now be eating eighty five million in dead
cap money for two years. To you guys, that is
the largest dead cap hit ever. They are basically paying
Russ millions of dollars to get the hell out. That
is that is crazy. It's more than the top two
biggest cap dead cap hits comebinind and the casualness with
(04:31):
which we are treating eighty five million dollars.
Speaker 3 (04:34):
That they are just eating just so they don't have him.
Speaker 4 (04:38):
Please give me eighty five million dollars to not quarterback
someone I cant absolutely do that. Give me eighty five
million dollars to not quarterback a team like.
Speaker 2 (04:45):
You have to like say, now I think we can
officially say this was probably the worst trade in NFL history.
The fact that you're just like, you gave up everything
that you did for him and then you're just eating yeah,
eighty five million dollar.
Speaker 4 (05:00):
Being that you are releasing a player that is then
costing you eighty five million dollars to not be part
of the organization.
Speaker 2 (05:06):
No, you were paying him to go play somewhere else
and play against you. But honestly, like not really surprised
because from the get go it wasn't working with Russ
and Sean Pap, I mean, Peyton made the comment that
he needs to stop kissing babies. You're not running for
public office before the season even started, So it was
over for these two from the get go wasn't a
good fit. The Broncos really made their decision right. They
(05:27):
decided to keep one of the best coaches of our
generation and pay russ to leave. So, as we mentioned,
it was reported Friday morning by Dana Russini, who we
also had on the herd yesterday, and she told us
russ met with the Giants on Thursday and then he
flew to Pittsburgh to meet with the Steelers on Friday.
Now everyone saw it because there were photos of him
(05:48):
on the airplane. Yes, in the airport, because it's what
he does. Also though, like but that's kind of respect
that he was taking, like public transportation, like not a PJ.
Speaker 3 (06:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (06:01):
Ord knows that he's got the money between him, and
that's what I'm saying that.
Speaker 3 (06:03):
That was my first thought. I was like, Oh, he's
a man of the people. He needs he's coming off.
Speaker 2 (06:07):
He's got to rebrand himself a little bit.
Speaker 3 (06:10):
So we'll see if that help.
Speaker 4 (06:12):
So Wisconsin, beginnings are coming out, well not even.
Speaker 2 (06:15):
Beginnings, but okay, So where is the best landing spot
for us?
Speaker 5 (06:22):
Right?
Speaker 2 (06:23):
Because I feel like he needs a place that kind
of have the pieces already in place. A GM and
a coach that want and can work with him, because honestly,
like he's still a good quarterback. He hasn't had the
best record the last few years, but he's still proven.
He's not gonna be one of your top guys. But
last season he was top ten in passer rating, he
was eighth. Passing touchdowns he was ninth.
Speaker 3 (06:46):
That's still like that productive.
Speaker 4 (06:49):
Scarce good quarterback. P Yes, yes, this is all you
can ask for. And the biggest part of all of
this is that he comes at that minimum. Yes, he
has no incentives to there's no team that has incentive
to sign him for any more steel. It is a
steal for getting a solid quarterback. Yes, not anything fancy,
but a solid quarterback for vet minimum. I mean he's
(07:13):
going to have options. He should, but I also don't
think that we are going to know exactly where he
will end up until there are other dominoes that fall.
Speaker 3 (07:22):
I think Kirk Cousins is going to be that.
Speaker 4 (07:23):
Kirk Cousins is still the top free agent quarterback. Yeah,
and he is still the first choice I think of
pretty much every everybody team that still needs a quarterback
right now.
Speaker 2 (07:34):
Which is interesting too write So I think Vikings or Falcons,
maybe top landing spots for Kirk.
Speaker 4 (07:41):
Well, I'm the more and more I talk to people
in India, and the more and more I get from.
Speaker 3 (07:46):
Them, give us, give us the insight.
Speaker 4 (07:48):
I don't think Kirk is coming back to Minnesota, Okay,
And honestly I know they want him back. Quesciadofa Menza
their general manager, Kevin O'Connell their head coach. They both
have not and shy about saying we want Kirk back.
But Kirk's deal voids when the league gear starts March thirteenth.
Once his deal voids, the Vikings are then on the hook.
(08:10):
Is We're a significant amount of dead cap as part
of Kirk's contract, whether or not he resigns with the Vikings,
So they have to start there. When you talk about
a possible extension, you have to start with. I believe
the figure's like twenty eight point five million dollars in
dead cap, and that is not even getting to any
sort of new contract that you would be awarding him.
(08:31):
The Vikings have cap space, They have over forty one
million dollars of cap space. They don't have that much CASP.
Speaker 3 (08:36):
Best second half and so more than half.
Speaker 4 (08:39):
We also know that the Vikings tried to move up
last year to get C. J. Stroud in the draft,
so it looks like they're kind of bracing themselves for
a rebuild.
Speaker 3 (08:50):
Interesting.
Speaker 2 (08:51):
I mean, it's also interesting because they've already committed around
what like two hundred million dollars to Kirk and they
don't have a boding Yeah, so that that too is like, dah,
are you going to give him like another forty mil
a year in like hopes that maybe you can get.
Speaker 4 (09:05):
Over the hunt and especially now that he's on the
wrong side of thirty five coming off of an Achilles' injury.
Speaker 3 (09:10):
Massive injury.
Speaker 4 (09:11):
But that being said, him and Ken Kirk cousins and
Kevin O'Connell have such a good relationship. But Kevin O'Connell
had a really revealing interview during the combine where he
said Kirk has earned the right to become a free
agent and he is going to do what's best for him.
Kirk has always been about his money. Don't don't let
anybody for you. He is a wonderful family man. But
(09:31):
for that exact reason, duh, Like he's covering his agent.
Speaker 3 (09:35):
Fully guaranteed contracts for his agents. He is like one
of the best contract.
Speaker 4 (09:43):
Who is a big time, high flying agent for a
lot of these guys. Honestly, he's got quite a few big,
high profile clients. But Kirk is going to go where
he is paid. Yeah, and there is no shortage. Kirk
has every incentive to hit free agency because there are
no shortage of tea teams that will pay him money
that the Minnesota Vikings may not want to.
Speaker 2 (10:05):
So what do you see it like, Atlanta Because your
new offensive coordinator is Zach Robinson comes from the Sean
McVay tree, and I feel like everyone from the Sean
McVay tree just absolutely loves Kirk.
Speaker 3 (10:14):
I mean even Kevin O'Connell comes from the as well.
Speaker 4 (10:18):
Kirk has only ever been in this tree. Yes, he
has gone.
Speaker 3 (10:20):
To great Tree.
Speaker 4 (10:22):
I mean almost half the league at this point is
our disciples of this Sean McVay, the Mike Shannan through
Kyle shanahan U tree. So the Shanahan McVay tree is
alive and well, and Kirk can operate it with the
best of them. So I do think that Atlanta is
a really solid landing spot. I mean, they trust kind
(10:42):
of these veteran quarterbacks they stuck with Matt Ryan for
so long. I just think that that is probably the
most likely scenario, and that really has a trickle down
effect throughout this entire quarterback free agency class.
Speaker 2 (10:57):
And I think the next domino would be Baker Mayfield.
Like obviously they're in negotiations with Tampa right now, but
he only made four million dollars last year, which is
insane because.
Speaker 3 (11:08):
He he did such a.
Speaker 2 (11:10):
Good job of revamping his career. I think that started
when he had that moment with Sean McVay and the Rams,
because that's what he does. He just like go to
like football rehab. Sean Gavay's got you. Let's let's get
you back on track. But will Tampa be willing to
go above thirty million dollars? I mean, you were with
Tampa for years, you know, kind of like what they're like.
(11:31):
They have that Florida no tax element, which I'm sure
is a bargaining.
Speaker 3 (11:35):
Tool for that.
Speaker 4 (11:36):
They absolutely use that, Yeah, which they should.
Speaker 3 (11:38):
They should. Here's the thing about Tampa.
Speaker 4 (11:40):
They had interest in Baker Mayfield before Tom Brady, before
they knew that Tom Brady was yes.
Speaker 2 (11:46):
Okay, so they like, okay, Tom's gone, all right, we're
ready for you now, Baker.
Speaker 4 (11:50):
But before Tom came to Tampa is what I'm telling you,
that they had interest.
Speaker 3 (11:54):
In Baker was originally interested in Dolphins.
Speaker 4 (11:57):
Right there was there was the Dolphins. There was potential
for the forty nine, or there was like it was
it was. There was a lot of rumors. But before
the Bucks knew that they were going to get Tom Brady,
Baker Mayfield was the was the plan one b if
If Tom was one a okay, Baker Mayfield was one
b okay.
Speaker 3 (12:15):
So they like him a lot.
Speaker 4 (12:17):
So the organization has liked him for a long time.
Speaker 3 (12:19):
Are they going to give him what he deserves?
Speaker 4 (12:21):
And I have to think so because here's the other
thing too. They Baker advocated, even though he's only with
him for one year, he advocated for them to resign
Mike Evans, yeah, and keep him. You know that Buck
for life. Mike Evans did not want to go anywhere.
I'm so happy that deal got done. I'm so happy
for Mike. I'm so happy for his wife, Ashley. I'm
so happy for Tampa as a city. But they also
(12:42):
brought in Liam Cohen as offensive coordinator, who has experienced
with Baker Mayfield, who Baker Mayfield vouched for when it
came to hiring him to fill Dave Canalis's spot. Okay,
And this is a guy that his offense was very good.
It was a very good fit with Baker Mayfield in
Los Angeles. So you don't do all of that and
(13:03):
then not reassign Baker Mayfield.
Speaker 3 (13:05):
So, okay, I have full.
Speaker 4 (13:07):
Faith in Jason light and Mike Greenberg and these guys
to creatively figure out a way to keep Baker Mayfield
in Tampa.
Speaker 3 (13:13):
I don't think he's going anywhere, Okay.
Speaker 2 (13:15):
So say Kirk ends up maybe in Atlanta, Default Vikings maybe,
and then you have Baker staying in Tampa.
Speaker 3 (13:26):
Where do you see Russ going?
Speaker 2 (13:28):
Like, we know we met with the Giants, we know
we met with the Steelers. Raiders still kind of need
someone same division can kind of stick it to Sean Payton.
Do you do you see him having like a solid
landing starting spot.
Speaker 3 (13:42):
I do, And I think it would be interesting too.
Speaker 4 (13:44):
I think that the Giants are a little bit of
a dark horse here because of the fact that this
would let them off the hook for this awful Daniel
Jones contract where they paid somebody that didn't pan out right,
and they've become the laughing stock of especially their division,
if not the entire league. Now you can sign a
guy like Russ Wilson for for ben minimum and either
(14:05):
have the competition or at least the Giants have an
out on Daniel Jones's contract for twenty twenty five, so
this would bridge the gap between then and now. Between
now and then, I should say and have Russell Wilson
even either be the starter.
Speaker 3 (14:21):
But here's the thing.
Speaker 4 (14:22):
Russ has absolute control over where he goes. Now you
want to look at a place like I don't know, Minnesota,
who Minnesota. I maybe still draft a quarterback, but now
you have the luxury if you have Russell Wilson on
your roster, you have the luxury of drafting a developmental
quarterback that can sid for a year behind Russ Wilson. Again,
(14:45):
will he do it, I don't know, But you do
have the league's best receiver at your disposal in Dustin Jefferson,
who is doing a new contract very soon. You have
a good offensive line, depending on how they kind of
fill a couple of holes. Christian Darrisaw I think is
one of the best tackles in the league, and you
have TJ. Hopkins in a really good tight end. You
have to figure out the run game a little bit more.
But Kevin O'Connell. Yeah, and that entire staff is full
(15:07):
of former quarterbacks. So taking a developmental guy, letting him
learn from that staff while having Russell Wilson, I don't know,
that seems like kind of a good situation for me.
Speaker 2 (15:17):
It does kind of seem like a no brainer. But again,
I think this is all going to come down to
the quarterback domino effect. That's going to start with Kirk,
then go to Baker, then maybe Russ and then you
even have justin fields. But like that's a little more
tricky because it's a trade and what's someone willing to
give up for Chicago. We'll dive into that a little later.
We're going to take a quick break here, but when
we come back, we got Lakers insider Chris Geeter McGee
(15:37):
joining the show.

Welcome back to Fox Sports Saturday. I'm Alex Curry here
with Carmen Vitali. We are broadcasting live from the Tyrek
dot Com studios in Los Angeles, and guys, it is
time for our first guest, one of my favorite all
time coworkers I've ever had. He's a legend on the
volleyball court and a legend on the prices right and
currently those of the Lakers.
Speaker 3 (16:43):
On Spectrum Sports Night, Let's.
Speaker 2 (16:45):
Give it up for Chris Peeter McGee gee geet.
Speaker 5 (16:49):
Hi, friends. That was one of the nicer intros I've
ever had.
Speaker 4 (16:52):
Do you like it?
Speaker 3 (16:53):
I love it?
Speaker 5 (16:54):
I loved it.
Speaker 2 (16:54):
I loved it, Geet. Lakers showed up last night without
Lebron on the core a huge win down the stretch,
jumping to ninth over the Warriors last night.
Speaker 3 (17:04):
So with the regular season kind of.
Speaker 2 (17:06):
Winding down, what are realistic expectations for the Lakers this postseason?
Speaker 5 (17:13):
For me? I think they can get to the eighth spot, Okay,
chasing Dallas. They're kind of in that battle with Dallas
and the Warriors. I just feel like that loss to
the Kings, it doesn't like eliminate them from that seven
to sixth spot and having a chance to play in
that playing game and have a home game like they
did last year. But when you're three four behind in
the lost column with like seventeen to go, that's actually
(17:34):
a lot to make up. So I think they can
get to that eighth spot, possibly seven. Here's the thing,
we've watched this team all year, like if they played
like that, they can beat anyone. But we've also seen,
you know, everyone's good in the West, Like there's no
easy matchups, so going on the road to be tough.
But if they could get in, if they could get
into the playoff, they can win those playing games and
get in. They're definitely a dangerous team to play. I mean,
(17:57):
if you don't, you long as you don't match up
with Denver, I think I would feel good about their champs.
Speaker 2 (18:01):
Yeah, it's also going to help to have Lebron back.
Obviously didn't play last night. What's the latest on his injury.
Speaker 5 (18:07):
So he's had that ankle injury that's been nagnhim, okay
all year, and he's he's heard it a few times
where he's had to take some time off. I think
the five games in eight days that he played, playing
thirty seven thirty eight minutes a night, and then he
tweaked it a little bit at the end of that
Sacramento game minutes left. I think that was I was
(18:30):
I thought he might play, but I wasn't surprised Alex
when he said he wasn't, because he always needs a
little extra rest to get that thing right.
Speaker 3 (18:36):
I mean, he looks fresh on the bench. He really
didn't like lapping. Yeah, geter him.
Speaker 5 (18:47):
How are you good?
Speaker 4 (18:48):
How are you?
Speaker 5 (18:50):
So?
Speaker 4 (18:50):
Here's the thing about Lebron, though, is do you think
that they're going to take a little bit more time
with him with what they have eighteen nineteen games left,
I think they're going to take a little bit more
time with them because they need him to kind of
come on strong down the stretches. It's one of those
tests for him where he's single handedly going to have
to will the Lakers into the postseason.
Speaker 5 (19:10):
Again, Listen, I mean, it's what he's done his entire career.
I'll be honest with you, I think there's two ways
to look at it. I have always I stopped guessing
a while ago on what like the plan was because honestly,
it comes down to him and nobody knows his body
more than him. Ian Mike can see has put a
lot of time into it, and here's what I've learned.
He won't risk like if he's not good to go,
(19:34):
then he would rather rest up because he knows if
he is good to go. I think he believes that
that team can beat anyone. So if you see him
out there, then you know it's not bothered. You know
it's gonna bother a little bit, but it's not where
it's affecting his play. Yeah, that makes sense, but I
know he feels this way. I can give you a
hundred percent that he will if the opportunity presents where
he could get some rest going into the playoffs, or
(19:57):
he can manage napgate last seventeen games and play, you
know whatever, thirteen of them, fourteen of them. He will
do that because if he is somewhat fresh going into
the playoffs, and I know he's got a lot of
belief himself, and I believe in it too.
Speaker 2 (20:07):
Yeah, I mean he's the best of the best, Lebron
obviously becoming the first player to reach forty thousand points
last week.
Speaker 5 (20:12):
But guy, I mean, but guys, honestly, Alex, it used
to be when he didn't play it's an l Yes,
it's not that way now. I mean they're five and four.
You don't want to play long term without him. But
he can survive a game or two, and I think
that's comforting for Lebron, and say they lose.
Speaker 4 (20:26):
Every game he sets a record in anyways of.
Speaker 5 (20:28):
The great point Dude.
Speaker 2 (20:30):
I mean, that's got to be so anti climactic. But
where do you where do you kind of rank that
forty thousand points career accomplishment that he got last week?
Speaker 5 (20:39):
Listen, I'm way older than you, guys, so I was
going up and I was a young teenager when Kareem
passed gerlind Yeah, and then by the time he was
done playing, you saw thirty eight thousand points. That record
stood for thirty nine years. Not only did lebron pass it,
he's at forty k in counting. Yeah. I don't think
forty k was ever even believable at the time. Obviously,
(21:02):
the three point line has changed things, right, Like Kareem
stayed four years in college, she only shot one three,
so it's a different time. But the thing that I
I the reason why I believe, guys that Lebronze will
stand for a long long time is because you have
to stay healthy for twenty one twenty two years, and
then you have to deliver at a rate that has
(21:25):
never been seen before. Mean, he's averaging twenty five a
game as a thirty nine year old. You know when
other people Alex we showed this graphic day one of
Media Day when he came on the set, Vince Carter, Drittobinski,
Robert six guys would played twenty one years, seven guys,
you know what the highest scoring average was and then
six twenty two points per game. Six So guys in
her twenty first year average six points a game. He's
(21:46):
after twenty five. Wow, So it's gonna be around for
a long time.
Speaker 4 (21:50):
I think, I think the biggest because obviously the game
has changed, Like you said, the three point line has
it's come into effect. And you see these kids coming
up in AAU two who are just scoring machines, right,
and you think that, Okay, how long can this record
stand when the game is moving more towards offense as
I feel like every all four of the is your
sports are. But then you look at I look at
(22:13):
a guy like Steph Curry who has made his money
literally the three point three point line, but he's at
what twenty five thousand points?
Speaker 5 (22:22):
Still just go far away from him and Steph will
end up I think when he's done, whenever that is,
he'll be in that top you know ten category, but
like in scoring, but yeah, look how far off he is.
M So it's and by the way, they don't even
count playoff numbers. I mean imagine if they did, so
it's it's pretty crazy. But yeah, I mean, listen, the
scoring has changed. Kids are scoring at Will Wemby's going
(22:45):
to be fun to watch for the next sixteen years
to see what he becomes there. Who knows, maybe there's
a four point line one. You know at some year
that that ads when I'm older. Break. But listen, Lebron
right now, he's just that records here for a while.
Speaker 3 (22:57):
I love that. Now.
Speaker 2 (22:58):
Lebron is reportedly worked towards a new deal to remain
with the Lakers. What are you hearing about the potential
new contract for him?
Speaker 5 (23:05):
Yeah, I don't have anything. Things. I think it's funny.
But I'll tell you what I thought. I was under
the impression probably a month ago, two months ago. I
was like, you know what, because of how last year ended,
he was so tired. If he walked away this year,
I wouldn't have been surprised.
Speaker 3 (23:23):
Oh, just like from the game or from the Lakers.
Speaker 5 (23:27):
Yeah, the closer, Yeah, from the game, but the closer
I got closer to now. And like you said, you
hear about the reports, I'm like, he's still doing it,
He's still delivering it. I think if he's still mentally
engaged and mentally able to be up for the grind
to be great because he doesn't want to be just
an average guy out there, he's gonna have Yeah. So
(23:48):
if he can do that, then he will play another
year possibly too. I mean I wouldn't be surprised if
he opted out and signed his two year deal with
the Lakers, got the max money like he deserves, and
he played another hear or two I see happening.
Speaker 2 (24:00):
I mean, he's openly said he wants to play with
Brownie in the league, right.
Speaker 5 (24:05):
Yeah, so I'm curious where that is now he hasn't
said that, but but yeah, I mean obviously I think
that was a dream.
Speaker 3 (24:11):
Yes, but with everything.
Speaker 5 (24:14):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, you never know that, yeah, obviously, but yeah,
I think that's I'm not going to put it back, man.
Speaker 3 (24:21):
It's Lebron. If anyone can do it, it's him, Okay.
Speaker 4 (24:24):
Finding things to do that no one has ever done before.
Speaker 3 (24:27):
So yeah, in and outside of the game.
Speaker 2 (24:29):
Now, before we let you go, I want some predictions
here for the Eastern and Western Conference finals and NBA.
Speaker 4 (24:35):
Finals, anybody being the Celtics.
Speaker 3 (24:37):
Yeah, who's who's going to be there, Who's who's going
to get there?
Speaker 5 (24:40):
Well, I do think Boston comes out of the East,
and I know I'm not should box there. They should should,
but you never know. And I'm really curious what a
nick Boston that my final could be. And then you know,
the Bucks can hold on to what they're doing and
they play Boston, It's not going to be a cake walk.
I'm going to get pushed. I wouldn't be shocked if
(25:01):
they get upset. But I do think it is their
time to get back there, and I gotta be awesome,
you guys. I do think a team from the West
can be on.
Speaker 2 (25:08):
I think Denver can be myself taking both the regular
season games.
Speaker 5 (25:14):
I'm telling you, like, the West is absolutely loaded. I
think if the team comes out of the West with experience,
you got to have experience. I don't see okay See
or Minnesota or New Orleans, some of the younger teams
that are moving up the rams. I don't see them
beating Boston. But if you get a Denver in there,
if the Lakers somehow sneak in there, if you could
get Warriors could get hot, if you could see the
(25:34):
Clippers get there with those three guys like then I
could see someone beating Boston. So yes, I actually think
the champs coming out of the West. I think obviously
it goes through Denver. Guys. I can't. Yeah, you all Lakes,
but but Denver until we till someone beats them, they're
the champs and I'm staying they're the favorite.
Speaker 2 (25:54):
They're It's insane even just watching I mean, watching that
Boston Denver game this week was like, oh, right out
of the gates, like down to the wire, was absolutely insane.
Speaker 5 (26:05):
Like we've been lucky here to have awesome teams with
the Lakers and championship teams. So whatever team you follow,
I'm sure you've had your window, you know, through the
Warriors and that work. Yeah, Denver in that perfect Denver
in that perfect window right now. They are. They are
a great team with an unbelievable best player. They're second
best players Jamal Murray, who is a different player from
(26:26):
their best. He can handle it. They score, they have
all these perfect pieces. Josh Croncky and his staff have
done an unbelievable job of putting that team together. Their
bench is awesome, they have length, they play defense, they're unselfish.
They really are in that perfect window.
Speaker 3 (26:41):
Thank you so much for joining us, all your insights.
You guys know, I love you. I'll see it so
ho soon. All right, thanks for having me, of course. Thanks.
Get all right now, let's check in with Martin Wis
and see what's trending.
Speaker 7 (26:55):
The Denver Broncos reportedly trading wide receiver Jerry Judy to
the Cleveland Browns and exchange for a fifth and sixth
round pick in this year's NFL Draft. Broncos now after
this move ll have clear nearly fifty million dollars in
cab space in preparation to absorb Russell Wilson's eighty five
million dollar dead cap hit. The Philadelphia Eagles signed Brandon Graham,
a defensive end, to a one year extension. Graham said
(27:18):
he wanted to play fifteen years. Well, this will be
upcoming year fifteen. Expected to hang them up after this.
The Eagles have given linebacker Hassan Reddick permission to facilitate
a trade and have been taking trade calls on defensive
end Josh Sweat. Expect them to be in the Bryce
Huff market from the New York Jets for the Athletics
that I have never see him. The Chargers are open trade
(27:39):
offers from Joey Bosa and Khalil Mack. Many teams waiting
to see if the veteran pass rushers get cut first
before they offer a trade. SINCINNTI Bengals resigned offensive lineman
Cody Ford to a one year deal. The Vegas Raiders
will release defensive lineman Jerry Tillery. And in college basketball,
we had number sixteen Alabama beat Arkansas ninety two to
(27:59):
eight eighty eight, that game in overtime earlier today. Oh goodness, gracious,
who was it? I lost it? Oh no, the computer
is doing me dirty right now, leaving you very sorry
about that.
Speaker 3 (28:12):
Iowa State lost to somebody on the road.
Speaker 7 (28:14):
I can't figure out who it was because my computer
just went black. But in conference tournaments, Sanford, Mary mc Longwood,
Bryant Wagner, and mom with all advanced, so they are
still alive for March Madness.
Speaker 3 (28:25):
And I'll be back with that Iowa State score at
the top of the hour. Back to you guys. Love that.
Speaker 1 (28:29):
Thank you.
Speaker 5 (28:29):
Mark.
Speaker 2 (28:30):
You're listening to Fox Words Saturday and Alex Curry here
with Carmen Vitality.
Speaker 3 (28:33):
We are broadcasting live.
Speaker 2 (28:35):
From the Tyrek dot Com studios in Los Angeles, and
you guys, it is Women's History Month. It was International
Women's Day yesterday, So to celebrate women in sports, we're
gonna have a moment for the ladies, shine some light
on some batties here, and we got to start with
the battus around right now.
Speaker 3 (28:52):
Caitlin Clark is the battest around. She is the moment.
She is a superstar.
Speaker 2 (28:58):
She is the biggest name in college basketball right now.
She just broke the all time NCAAD one college basketball
scoring record four men and women, passing a record that
was set in the seventies by Pistol Pete.
Speaker 4 (29:11):
Yeah, she's Ponytail Pete. Now, it's so what.
Speaker 3 (29:14):
They're calling her ponytail Pee. Do you just make that up?
Speaker 4 (29:16):
No, that's a thing.
Speaker 3 (29:17):
I can't take credit for that. I'm like, that's the thing,
that's the thing.
Speaker 4 (29:19):
No, it's a thing. Now, she's just Ponytail Pete.
Speaker 3 (29:22):
I mean, it's crazy.
Speaker 2 (29:23):
That game had more than four million viewers, passing the
three million viewers that watch the Celtics Warriors game that
same day. She has created so much hype this season
that the Big Ten Women's Tournament has sold out every
ticket for its five day event for the first time ever.
The tournament is expected to draw more than one hundred
(29:44):
and nine thousand fans, with everyone just like hoping to
catch a glimpse of Caitlyn Clark. Some are comparing her
to Taylor Swift, but it's kind of the perfect storm
right now, right because she's had an iconic season, a
rise to start them. In a time time where men's
college basketball is struggling with the one and done system,
it's hard to find star people who.
Speaker 3 (30:07):
You want to follow.
Speaker 2 (30:09):
She's single handedly has put women's college basketball at the
forefront of major sports. We have all of the national
sports talk TV shows having major segments about Caitlyn Clark.
Speaker 3 (30:23):
Please tell me when that's ever happened before. No, it hasn't.
Speaker 4 (30:26):
And honestly, it's so cool to see all of kind
of the legends of the women's basketball legends of the
past show up for her and the fact that she
now is foresure entering the WNBA Draft. I mean, this
is what it takes to kind of bring all of
this to the forefront. Is like, all right, you're gonna
hype up Caitlyn Clark in college. Yeah, and then there's
(30:48):
all this conversation about nil and how she can make
more money and call it YadA, YadA, YadA. She's like, no,
huh uh, I'm gonna go grow this game. Yes at
the pro level.
Speaker 2 (30:55):
Too, Yes, and she's gonna do it, and we're seeing
it happen right now. Which leads to me to kind
of like my next shining a spotlight on.
Speaker 3 (31:03):
The Las Vegas Aces.
Speaker 2 (31:05):
Okay, the first w NBA team to sell out their
season ticket allotment. They are back to back w NBA champs.
So there is that momentum sure right now right for
women's sports.
Speaker 3 (31:19):
Everybody watches everybody watches women's sports, Like, just stop.
Speaker 2 (31:22):
The numbers are out, Like I need you people, I
do two from together. Like Sue Bird was just on
one of the late night talk shows, Jimmy Fallon, I think,
and she was handed.
Speaker 3 (31:32):
She gave him the shirts. We all need the shirts.
Like it's great. Numbers, don't lie, it's happening.
Speaker 2 (31:38):
I am so happy for Caitlyn Clark for women's sports.
Aces like just absolutely dominating. Who do you have a
spotlight spotlight on?
Speaker 4 (31:48):
Yes, I want to actually spotlight a friend of mine. Oh,
let's go Jennifer King. She is now the assistant running
backs coach for the Chicago Bears. This is her third
team that she will be. She became the first black
woman coach in the NFL when she was with Carolina
Panthers under Ron Rivera. Ron Rivera then took her to
Washington as well, so she was in Washington most recently
(32:10):
and now the Chicagovera's have hired her. And here's the
thing about coaching in the NFL as a woman, Yeah,
you need to stick. And we have seen women stay,
like you know, come and go with one team and
then they're kind of out and maybe they get into broadcasting.
Speaker 3 (32:24):
They do that. This that the other.
Speaker 4 (32:26):
We are now seeing women go from staff to staff
like any normal coach would because getting fired in this
business very's that's the reality part of them is. But
now you see women getting picked up on different staffs
even after their staff is let go or after they
are let go. That is what that is another step
in the right direction.
Speaker 3 (32:46):
And Jen King is.
Speaker 4 (32:48):
She's a wonderful person. She's so cool. She's one of
the coolest people I know. And I'm so excited for
her to be in Chicago and to be where there's
going to be a lot of talk about this offense
and she going to be a pivotal part of it.
Speaker 2 (33:02):
I mean, they have the number one overall pick. We're
going to talk about talking Williams. We got that coming
up at top of hour two, Like we're going to
dive into all of that. Yes, Okay, I got one
more shining a light just because she was the ultimate battie.
This week, the US women's national team goalkeeper Alyssa nay
(33:24):
Or you guys, I don't know if you watched her
Gold Cup semi final, but she single handedly sent USA
to the Gold Cup final. She blocked three pks and
then made one of her own. I mean it was fabulous.
I had the opportunity of being up close and personal
with this team when I was a US embedded reporter
for the World Cup in France and twenty nineteen, and
(33:46):
she blocked a PK to send USA to the final.
Speaker 3 (33:54):
In the World Cup. So like I just like she's
you can do everything. She is her. She is her. Yeah,
I love that a lot.
Speaker 4 (34:01):
I want to actually and then from a historical perspective now,
because we're it's Women's History History month, please you and
I both have baseball ties. I interned for the Dodgers
way back when, about a decade ago, and I worked
on a story because the more I saw things coming
out about women in baseball and being allowed into locker
(34:22):
rooms and clubhouses rather and being allowed into press boxes. Yeah,
the Dodgers kept coming up and the Dodgers were one
of the first teams to allow a woman into a
press box. Her name was Betty Kunaberdi and she was
led into the Dodgers' press box in the early seventies,
I believe. And then there was Claire Smith as well,
who Dodgers pitcher Steve Garvey infamously walked out of the
(34:46):
locker room of the nineteen eighty four World Series of
the Clubhouse where Claire was being denied access and said,
you have a job to do, you need this interview,
I'm giving it to you. And right after that, the
Commissioner of Baseball changed the policy that made it so
if you a credential across the board, you are given
the same access. It doesn't matter male or female. So
those two pioneering women, I got to talk to both
(35:07):
of them when I was an intern with the Dodgers
and it was incredible just how far we've come and
we still have a ways to go. But as a reporter,
as someone who is granted the access, we are both
in locker rooms to be in locker rooms. Yeah, these
are the women that paved the way, and it's really
cool that la yep can say that they were kind
(35:27):
of at the forefront.
Speaker 2 (35:28):
Of all of us, of everything. Dodgers are the best. Also,
Jackie Robinson like they.
Speaker 4 (35:33):
This was it's not an accident, happened with one organ.
Speaker 2 (35:36):
Dodgers know what they're doing. All right, We're going to
take a break here, but when we come back, it
is the dues and the don'ts in sports. You're listening
to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (35:46):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.
Speaker 2 (35:49):
Yes, Music on Point. Today, you're listening to Fox Sports Saturday.
I'm Alex Curry here with Carmen Vitally. We are broadcasting
live from the Tyrek dot Com studios in Los Angeles.
Thank you for spending your Saturday afternoon with Carmen and me.
We also got like we've been talking about you. We're
in a Spice Girls shirt today. I'm like, we might
(36:10):
need to get some Spice Girls on the show at
one point. I also like Spice Schools have been coming
up like a couple times with me today. Like my
high school bestie sent me a collage that I made
her for her birthday back in freshman year, and it
was us dressed up as the Spice Girls in one
of the photos.
Speaker 3 (36:25):
I was always.
Speaker 4 (36:25):
Sporty I was always sporty and paj Yes, you both
literally had the same experience. I guess if I wasn't,
Although I was scary at one point too, we will say.
Speaker 2 (36:36):
That I feel like now I would be more of
a sportier pot or sporty or scary.
Speaker 3 (36:40):
Yeah, both of them. Those are my two personalities. All right, Well,
let's get to the dewes and.
Speaker 2 (36:45):
The don'ts in sports this week, you guys.
Speaker 3 (36:50):
I love that putting a spotlight on the don't the
subject brings me no joy.
Speaker 4 (36:56):
Are you on crack?
Speaker 1 (36:57):
It's time for the dues and the dons sports?
Speaker 2 (37:01):
All right, I'm gonna start with a do here, Okay,
do what you gotta do.
Speaker 3 (37:07):
To get that check.
Speaker 2 (37:09):
Mike Tyson fighting Jake paul An at and T Stadium
in Dallas in July on Netflix.
Speaker 3 (37:15):
You guys, like.
Speaker 5 (37:20):
This was the.
Speaker 3 (37:20):
Inspiration if you were listening to the top of the show.
Speaker 2 (37:23):
I spent my Friday night last night watching all of
Mike Tyson's knockouts, like beginning, like his very first fight
before he made it to the pay per view, like eighties,
early eighties, like really grainy video.
Speaker 3 (37:42):
I went through and I watched every single knockout that
they were recorded. You guys, it was right now. It
was so good.
Speaker 2 (37:52):
The video had one hundred and sixty one million views
on it by the oh yeah, it was like almost
an hour long video of like those boxes well insane,
But I gotta tell you, because Mike Tys is fifty.
Speaker 3 (38:02):
Seven years old.
Speaker 2 (38:02):
I think Jake Paul is like twenty seven. I don't know,
but this is Mike Tyson we're talking about. I have
no idea what to expect, but I will be watching,
and you know it's going to be entertainment. It's going
to be so crazy, and I hope he still has
that crazy left hook and just I hope we.
Speaker 3 (38:21):
Get I would love to see it.
Speaker 2 (38:21):
I hope we get a wet We got to get
a TKO please.
Speaker 3 (38:25):
How amazing would that be? It'd be ideal.
Speaker 4 (38:27):
The legend of Mike Tyson would is ideal.
Speaker 2 (38:30):
Also, like Generations under five minutes, like that he did
with so many and that like just was so controversial.
Speaker 3 (38:36):
I love it, Okay.
Speaker 4 (38:37):
Got Mine is also entertainment related because it's related to
sports in the sense that all I see your memes
and references to Dune and I have never seen Dune what,
so do go see Dune where me?
Speaker 3 (38:51):
I guess you haven't. I don't understand.
Speaker 2 (38:54):
You have, Okay, So I just rewatched Dune one before
we go see Dune Too. We were about to go
see due to my husband and I on like Wednesday,
I was like, no, no, no, no no. I like,
it's been long enough. I have to rewatch one. So
I am like pumped and ready to go for number two.
I am so ready.
Speaker 3 (39:11):
I think we're gonna go Monday after work.
Speaker 4 (39:13):
It is spill over into sports to the point where
I do not understand my Twitter timeline anymore because the
means and everything.
Speaker 2 (39:21):
The viral, the viral bucket, the popcorn bucket, was just like, excuse.
Speaker 1 (39:27):
Me, did you do that?
Speaker 3 (39:29):
You knew what you were doing, You knew what you
were doing. You have to know what you were doing.
Speaker 4 (39:35):
But I don't, like, I don't know. I don't have
any contexts for that. So I watch, do go see
Dune one? So I can go see Dune too?
Speaker 3 (39:41):
You have to.
Speaker 4 (39:42):
My boyfriend's seen it three times in theaters already. I
was gone for the last couple of weeks.
Speaker 8 (39:48):
I've seen again next Sunday, next again, next, next Sunday.
Speaker 2 (39:54):
We'll be talking about this next week. If you can
your weekly homework assignment. Watch and then maybe he'll go
with you four or.
Speaker 3 (40:02):
Fourth times, gonna go again with me. Don't worry, I'll go.
Speaker 2 (40:05):
You went so we can have a little breakdown discussion
next week. Okay, do live out your dream no matter
how old you are. I don't know if you guys
saw this. Five year old Christopher Best went viral for
helping his dad coach his high school basketball team. This
little kid is giving pump up speeches coaching on the sideline,
had the same mannerisms at as his dad.
Speaker 5 (40:26):
We love.
Speaker 2 (40:27):
Did you see it? You guys like all, I'll share
it on my story and on Twitter. This was like
the cutest thing ever knew. He knew what he wanted,
all right. When we come back, Carmelo's at the combine
last week, so we're giving you all of the inside scoop.
Speaker 3 (40:43):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (40:46):
Welcome to hour two of Fox Sports Saturday.
Speaker 3 (40:48):
I'm Alex Curry here with Carmen Vitally.
Speaker 2 (40:51):
We are broadcasting live from the tyreck dot Com studios
in Los Angeles.
Speaker 3 (40:54):
Tyreck dot Com.
Speaker 2 (40:55):
We'll help you get there an unmasked selection, fast free shipping,
free road hazard protection, over at ten thousand recommended installers,
tyrec dot com the way tired buying should be.
Speaker 3 (41:06):
Oh, it's good to be back. It's so good to
be it's good to be back.
Speaker 2 (41:10):
We were both getting back to reality this week because
we both had our post NFL season.
Speaker 4 (41:17):
I've been back to yeah, yeah this week.
Speaker 2 (41:20):
This was like our week of getting back or yours
was kind of like I was last.
Speaker 3 (41:23):
Week, yeah, last week, this past week, yeah yeah, yeah,
oh no, you were the last.
Speaker 2 (41:29):
You left a week before on your vacation. We kind
of did like ovisit vacations you did London and Ireland.
Speaker 3 (41:36):
I went to Kawhi and owahou right.
Speaker 4 (41:40):
I promised my boyfriend that we were going to need
a jacket for the next vacation we took because we'd
been going to beaches and he's just like I need
cold and I'm like, okay, let's do it.
Speaker 3 (41:48):
And so we did.
Speaker 4 (41:48):
The UK in February is essentially what we did. I
love that, but then I went straight into combine. The
combine in Indianapolis.
Speaker 3 (41:56):
I like, literally, you didn't come home.
Speaker 2 (41:58):
You landed from Europe and then like landed in Chicago and.
Speaker 4 (42:03):
Drove Andy the next day.
Speaker 3 (42:04):
Yeah, I love that I did the same.
Speaker 2 (42:06):
I landed at like two thirty in the morning Sunday night,
was up at six am and in the studio because
that's what we do, right, we do. You're gonna you're
gonna stretch the time as long as you can right
when you're in right, and you take every hour a
little moment you can, which I'm learning later on in life.
Like that was something I wish I could tell my
younger self because I used to feel really guilty when
(42:26):
I took time off.
Speaker 3 (42:27):
But I worked the year round.
Speaker 2 (42:28):
I was the team reporter for the Angels and Kings,
so we had baseball and hockey season, two of the
longest seasons, and I overlast like four months.
Speaker 3 (42:35):
So I never took time off. No, you need it.
Like first, like five six, seven years of my career was.
Speaker 4 (42:40):
My body's rebellying from me going like one like Super
Bowl and the vacation into combine.
Speaker 3 (42:45):
Yeah, that's okay, we're here. We're here now, we're back,
and we're gonna have a great hour too. You guys.
Speaker 2 (42:48):
We have Fox Sports NFL writer Greg Ahman, who's also
fresh off the Combine with all the info joining us
at the bottom of this hour. So let's chat a
bit about the iguess networking event of the off season.
Because everyone all I've heard about the Combine, everybody is there.
Speaker 3 (43:06):
This is where you build.
Speaker 2 (43:08):
Relationships with coaches, with front office, with people within literally
every everybody. You see the future of the NFL. So
paint the picture for us, okay, because I've never been
and I've heard it's like yeah. People like, oh, well,
isn't the Super Bowl like the most the biggest networking
event of the year. It's like no, because it's kind
(43:29):
of like no, and you don't talk about what's going
on with your team at Super Bowl.
Speaker 4 (43:33):
Now to mention, not every team is there. This is
this is an opportunity to descend upon Indianapolis, which is
this small city in the Midwest. I love Indianapolis. I
hope the Combine never moves. But within like I mean,
there are like five major hotels, there are three major bars,
and then that's it, and every single NFL team is
(43:55):
there in some capacity to watch all of the future
of the league come into It's it's it's it's the
most incredible week. It's my favorite week of the year.
It is absolutely essential to doing your job as a reporter.
You survive on nothing but red meat and whiskey.
Speaker 3 (44:13):
Shoulder to shoulder in those three major.
Speaker 4 (44:15):
Bars, which you do not talk about. The one thing
that I this is this is probably gonna be a
little bit controversial, but the one thing that I need
people to understand and maintain as our media community grows,
which I am all about and love it. I think
there's room for every different kind of media uh member,
and and and different outlets and all that other stuff.
(44:36):
There is room for everybody. But for the love of God,
what happens in prime stays in prime. What happens in
these bars stays in these bars. We are not taking
what we're not doing this.
Speaker 3 (44:50):
This should have been on my dountes.
Speaker 4 (44:52):
We do not take pictures in these bars. We do
not report on what we see or hear or talk
about in these bars.
Speaker 3 (44:59):
The off the records, off the record bonding.
Speaker 4 (45:03):
This is where you formulate the context for your opinions. Yes,
but you by no means do you divulge what happens,
because that it's sacred. It's the sanctity of the NFL
combine that makes.
Speaker 2 (45:15):
Trust it's where like they know they can trust you, like, okay,
we just have like a great night out right.
Speaker 4 (45:20):
I mean some of my I went drink for a
drink with you. You gotta give me.
Speaker 3 (45:23):
Something, You got to give me something. I've had.
Speaker 2 (45:25):
Some of my like greatest relationships within the industry is
on the road in these situations where you're at the
hotel bar and you just you bond with these people.
Speaker 4 (45:35):
But there's a respect, there's a respect, there's an understanding,
trust and understanding that I will tell you these things,
but they are it's not to get back to me.
It's not for use of reporting all of this kind
of stuff. So that that is my take on we
are getting a little bit too loose with what we're
what we're doing with the bars.
Speaker 3 (45:53):
Uh, we need to we need to just let it be.
Speaker 2 (45:57):
There needs to be like you go through like an
initiation and like welcome, like right, PowerPoint, this is what
you cre this is what you.
Speaker 4 (46:05):
Do exactly like rule number one about fight club, you
don't talk about fight rum.
Speaker 3 (46:12):
I love that.
Speaker 2 (46:13):
Okay, Well, let's start with the biggest name and the
projected number one pick, Kayla Williams. Absolutely, here's what we
know we know that he's going to go number one.
We know that the Bears have the first overall pick.
We also know that he pushed back to his official
visit till after his pro day at USC. We also
know that he opted out of most of the events
at the Combine, including his medical evaluations.
Speaker 3 (46:35):
So as far as we saw.
Speaker 2 (46:38):
We like he He was chilling there, he was watching,
he was supporting his teammates.
Speaker 3 (46:45):
There was a lot of a lot of thoughts, right,
a lot.
Speaker 4 (46:48):
Of a lot of dialogue, a lot of.
Speaker 2 (46:50):
Feelings and and one of those, uh Taylor Luwan offensive
Lineman who.
Speaker 4 (46:57):
Has a podcast and current busting with the Boys. Yes,
Lemon Will Compton, I do love their show. I love
both of them.
Speaker 2 (47:04):
And he said that he did not get a good
vibe from Caleb throughout the Combine process, and we actually
have his sound here.
Speaker 8 (47:12):
He's obviously an extreme talent. It's incredible how talented he is.
But he's got this type of like I'm better than
you attitude that he's coming off as Now, if this
is not the individual he is, he's more than looking
to come on the bus and explain himself. But what
I saw from the short sample size, I got of
watching a few interviews on him on my way to
the Combine. Was guy's very full of himself. He's got
some big time yes people in his camp right now
(47:34):
that are getting in his ear a little too much.
Speaker 2 (47:38):
So, Carmen, how was Caleb perceived by teams at the Combine?
Speaker 3 (47:44):
Give us the deats?
Speaker 4 (47:45):
Oh, well, yep, because I also have thoughts.
Speaker 3 (47:47):
Okay, let's go what we.
Speaker 4 (47:49):
Need to understand about prospects coming out in general right now? Yeah,
this is not going pro is not their first brush
with the business side of this industry anymore. Oh No,
these are the nilation and this is the first generation Millions.
Caleb Williams especially has made millions millions, an incredibly high
(48:11):
profile portfolio of endorsement deals and so all of these things.
I have absolutely zero issue with him not doing medical
evaluations at the Combine, knowing that he's open to doing
them for the team that he is going to visit.
That's a better use of his time.
Speaker 3 (48:30):
The testing.
Speaker 4 (48:31):
The protocol for these prospects during Combine week is to
literally break them. It is designed to break them. It
is designed to give them such a vigorous schedule so
that by the time the end of the week rolls
around and they actually have to do the physical on
field testing.
Speaker 3 (48:49):
They are exhausted mentally, physically, mentally, physically every time you're
going to handle yourself because this is what the season
is going to be like.
Speaker 4 (48:56):
Cal Williams has absolutely none of this to prove at all.
And his talent is what's going to get him into
the doors of the teams, the very few teams that
even have a hope of getting him. Yeah, So I
have absolutely zero issue with him going about this. And
on top of that, he did take meetings with teams,
(49:17):
and people that were in those meetings and people that
were privy to what happened in those meetings all said
the same thing that he was extremely impressive. And the
Chicago Bears put him on the whiteboard for all fifteen
minutes that they had with him, and he impressed them.
He impressed Ryan Poles, he impressed the coaching staff. He
(49:38):
is a guy that does study. He has the talent, yes,
But my biggest question about him, and something that I
asked scout after GM, after personnel after coach about him,
was does he study?
Speaker 3 (49:51):
Does he work hard? What is his work ethic?
Speaker 5 (49:54):
Like?
Speaker 4 (49:54):
They said, he has an incredible work effort he does.
Speaker 3 (49:59):
That's how you become the bad. He's extremely football smart.
Speaker 4 (50:02):
Yeah, he knows what he's doing, he knows what he's
looking at, he knows defenses. So yes, there's still going
to be an adjustment at the NFL level for him
because it's the NFL level and he can't rely purely
on the talent that he has been able to rely on.
Speaker 3 (50:15):
You have grown professional men coming at you to take.
Speaker 4 (50:18):
You down, exactly. But if you have the work ethic
and you have the desire to be great, and he
clearly does. Oh yeah, he said it at the podium.
He wants to be a legend, yes, and if he
has the work ethic to back that up, then I'm
not worried about this guy at all. And I applaud
him for going through the combine and moving as if
he's already a pro, because guess what he is.
Speaker 3 (50:40):
He's going number one.
Speaker 2 (50:43):
He's taken heat for things I don't have a problem with,
and I'm with you on this. His confidence in doing
it his way is how he should be. This is
a guy that we know is going number one overall.
He is going to be the face of a billion
dollar franchise, caaring what he wants. And there's nothing wrong
with being so clear in life with what you want
(51:05):
and where you want to be.
Speaker 3 (51:07):
And it's hard.
Speaker 2 (51:08):
Like the way the draft process works, it's not great
for the best players. The best players end up with
the struggling franchises. It's a broken, frustrating system. That's just
the way it is right now. So how do you
think he feels? Okay, you are the best of the best,
most likely going to a struggling franchise.
Speaker 4 (51:29):
The funny part about all of this is, though, the
Chicago Bears have the first overall pick again.
Speaker 3 (51:34):
Not because they warrant uh huh.
Speaker 4 (51:37):
They traded for it and they just happened to trade
with the team that had the worst record this year. Yeah,
the Chicago Bears have the ninth overall pick. That is
what they warranted. Which there is a huge difference between
the first overall pick and the ninth. I know they're
both top ten, but the Chicago Bears roster is a
lot closer and a lot better than I think most
people think. And this is again a roster I play
(51:57):
very close attention to, yes.
Speaker 3 (51:59):
And they have.
Speaker 4 (52:00):
They have gone about building it. Ryan Pol's their general
manager has gone about building this franchise slow in steady
so that they can prepare for sustained success. They are actually,
for probably the first time I've seen set up well
to actually develop a quarterback right now.
Speaker 3 (52:18):
I mean, they haven't had the best track record. That's problem.
That's true, the last season problem twenty eighteen.
Speaker 2 (52:26):
So knowing that Caleb Williams pushed his visit to Chicago
till after is USC pro Day, how and how's the
front office, the Bear's front office feeling about this?
Speaker 3 (52:37):
What are they saying? I honestly thinking any no of it.
Speaker 4 (52:40):
That's a nothing burger, honestly, because a lot of these teams,
their top thirty visits don't even start till the first
week in April anyway, all right, So I don't think
anything of that. I think that that just really again
is a better use of Caleb Williams time. He's like,
I'm gonna go to my pro day, yeah, and you're
gonna see me throw, and you're gonna see me do
all of these things and YadA, YadA, YadA, so that
when I come into your building, we can get right
(53:01):
down to team specific things. You don't have any more
questions about me. You don't have any more questions about
you know, some of the more physical things that you're
going to see at my pro day. We can get
that all out of the way, and that way we
can spend more time on I can show you the
things that I can do when it comes from a
mental standpoint, and what I want for this team and
what I would do if I was the quarterback of
this team and all that kind of stuff. I don't
(53:23):
have an issue with any of that, and I don't
think the Chicago Bears do either. Are in complete control
this board to the point where like they don't necessarily
have to take Callabiams first. Overall, they could take another quarterback.
They could Ta Drake May. They could take Jade and Daniels.
They could if we're if the rumor mill is to
be believed right now, Jane Daniels is creeping up. Which listen.
I love I love Jaydan Daniels. He was an ASU
(53:43):
guy that transferred to Winner was extraordinarily productive for LSU
last year, with which had an absolutely atrocious defense. So
the fact that jayde and Daniels literally single handedly willed
them to a bunch of WS a lot says a lot.
But that is the thing. Chicago is still in control
of this this draft board. But they are also in
(54:04):
such a unique position because they did not warrant. They
are not as struggling of a franchise as you.
Speaker 3 (54:10):
Normally are as a traded pick.
Speaker 4 (54:15):
Yes, that worked out in Chicago's favor is exactly why
Chicago needs to take advantage of the situation. It's what
I've been saying for months. Is it not too unique
of a situation to have this roster and still have
all of these assets that is good, that is ready
to start winning where all, and then you can insert
(54:36):
a quarterback atie a rookie deal for four or five.
Speaker 3 (54:40):
Years and build around them.
Speaker 4 (54:42):
And build around that with all of the assets they
still have. It's just they don't even have that many
holes to fill anymore.
Speaker 2 (54:49):
I can hear it in your voice, the hope of
the hometown team and a team that you've been.
Speaker 4 (54:53):
Covering, Alex, I don't know anymore when it comes to
the Chicago Bears. This is my are my thoughts, my
opinion as to what I think is best for them.
I think it's what they're going to do. I absolutely
do not have hope Alex my childhood. My childhood won't
allow it. My childhood will not. But I do think
(55:13):
I will say this. I cover all four teams in
the NFC North. Yes I am fair and objective with
all of them, but I do think that the league
is a better It's the league is better when the
Bears are good. The league is better when those historical
traditional teams with the giant fan bases that live and
die with these teams are good. So the league is better,
(55:35):
especially when like that Bears Packers rivalry, if it's an
actual rivalry. Oh, there's nothing better than when both of
those teams are good.
Speaker 3 (55:42):
I know it's so good.
Speaker 2 (55:44):
Now, besides Caleb Billams, it's an extremely talented quarterback draft class.
So who was the most impressive that really stood out
besides Caleb Williams?
Speaker 3 (55:53):
Was there was there someone that kind of really stood out?
I mean, anybody, like.
Speaker 4 (56:01):
These are all good quarterbacks and all and a lot
of them, you know, the Nicks, Yeah, Bonix.
Speaker 2 (56:07):
JJ McCarthy. I feel like they can all kind of
move up just from.
Speaker 3 (56:10):
I want to.
Speaker 4 (56:11):
I don't know, I know who JJ McCarthy's team is
behind the scenes, because the imashing.
Speaker 2 (56:17):
Buzz crushing the buzz crushing help that you had, Harbaugh
like it could be hard like helping and listen.
Speaker 4 (56:26):
Jaja McCarthy probably has the like you're banking on his
potential and what he can grow into because you're banking
on the fact that he has the traits, he has
the tools, he looks like the prototypical quarterback. He comes
from a big time program.
Speaker 3 (56:39):
He worked with one of the best.
Speaker 4 (56:40):
You're banking on the fact that he can get better
and continue to ascend in the league.
Speaker 3 (56:45):
But I mean, the.
Speaker 4 (56:46):
Most impressive things that we saw, I think out of
quarterbacks was I mean, Michael Pennocks Junior was throwing like
darts in the hallway. It wasn't even on the field,
it was on the It was in the hallway, which
doesn't happen as much anymore because the body has become
a fan experience. Yeah, it used to be that you
couldn't walk out into the Convention Center hallways without having
(57:07):
to sidestep guys trying to like practice their forties or
throwing down the hall and all that other stuff. That's
kind of going away a little bit, but you still
see it every.
Speaker 3 (57:16):
Now and again.
Speaker 4 (57:17):
And so there was that video of Michael Pennix Junior
doing that, and I was just like, man, I love
that stuff.
Speaker 3 (57:21):
Holy but goodies, I gotta put this on my bucket list.
I gotta get out to the Combine in one of
these years.
Speaker 4 (57:25):
It's such a fun week.
Speaker 3 (57:27):
That's all I ever heard. Cynthia Freelans also like you, Oh,
I saw, yeah, you gotta go.
Speaker 4 (57:32):
Sin and I were having a good time.
Speaker 3 (57:33):
She told me, I love it. All right.
Speaker 2 (57:35):
We're gonna take a quick break here, but when we
come back, can you trust the cowboys to do the
right thing?
Speaker 3 (57:40):
Who knows anymore? You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 9 (57:43):

Speaker 2 (58:04):

Speaker 2 (58:32):
You follow Alex Underscore, Curry or at m B. Yeah,
we'll be posting it all over. But guys, it is
time to talk about the Cowboys.
Speaker 4 (58:43):
It's always time today.
Speaker 2 (58:44):
They have a lot of important contracts coming up that
they need to figure out, starting with Dak. Right, he
has one more year on his contract. He's coming off.
I want to be honest, I don't trust Cowboys anymore.
I just last couple of seasons have just come back
to bite me in the body. Yeah, okay, he's coming off.
(59:07):
Dak is coming off. Yeah, there's a lot more. He's
coming off the best season of his career. He was
in the MVP conversation. But there's still a lot of
questions surrounding what they should do. Should the Cowboys sign
him to an extension. This offseason, get it done, or
they could let it play out wait till next season
is over, but they run the risk of him potentially
(59:29):
testing free agency. As the Cowboys side, when you look
at the Dak side, do you try to get as
much money as you can or take a team friendly
deal and structure it so they can kind of help
other players out on the team get pieces that they
need to put around him. But there's a lot of
parts to this, okay, Because as great of a regular
season player as Dak is, it all comes back to
(59:53):
can you win a Super Bowl with Dak?
Speaker 5 (59:56):
Right?
Speaker 2 (59:56):
He's two and five in the postseason in eight season.
He's made it to the postseason five times, but they
haven't made a deep run to the conference championship. And
when you have a team and a brand as big
as the Cowboys, the biggest brand sports brand in the
(01:00:16):
United States, how much money can you keep giving someone
who hasn't brought you postseason success?
Speaker 4 (01:00:23):
What have they done to help Dak Prescott other than
pay him money because they traded away Amari Cooper and
had Dak Prescott starting with an undrafted free agent rookie
in twenty twenty two. Okay, as one of his starting receivers.
You signed Ezekiel Elliott to this deal that hamstrung the
(01:00:45):
entire offense.
Speaker 3 (01:00:46):
He fell out, He fell off like a steep cliff.
Pretty fair.
Speaker 4 (01:00:50):
You should have known to probably not pay a running
back that amount of money, especially when you had another
one on the roster. This was a two headed monster
in the backfield that you were supposed to be able
to rely on. That offensive line is not what we
were used to seeing out of the Dallas Cowboys offensive
line of like the late nineties and the early two thousands.
That is not that line. And now you're about to
(01:01:11):
let Tyron Smith walk.
Speaker 2 (01:01:12):
So yeah, I mean they have Dak in his final season.
Tyron Smith offensive lineman is a free agent this year.
CD Lamb is up for an extension. He has one
more year with this fifth year option in twenty twenty four,
and then next offseason, Micah Parsons is up.
Speaker 4 (01:01:25):
And you want to do that probably sooner rather than later, though,
better fer that out. Not trust the Cowboys do that
because when history would say that, they wait till the
last minute, even though they're going to cost themselves more money.
But here's what I love, Okay, because I like Dak Prescott.
Speaker 2 (01:01:39):
I could tell immediately when you responded to what do
you do with someone who hasn't had much postseason success?
You're like, well, but have they built around him? I
was like, I know where she's going with this. She
is on Dak's side.
Speaker 4 (01:01:50):
Came on dak side. Okay, does to borrow a cowboy expression?
Dak has the cowboys over a barrel because.
Speaker 3 (01:01:57):
Let me tell you, tell me his HAP hit.
Speaker 4 (01:02:00):
Is fifty nine and a half million dollars next year,
So you want to restructure that.
Speaker 1 (01:02:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:02:06):
Oh, but if you restructure that, guess what that brings
in some void years that then you are going to
pay for whether or not Dak Prescott is on your
roster in twenty twenty five when he is due to
be a free agent. Also, Dak has every incentive he has.
He has a no tag, no trade clause, so he
has every incentive to wait this out until he gets
(01:02:29):
to free agency, where he will undoubtedly be the top
coveted quarterback in that class. Think about if Dak Prescott
was in this free agent quarterback class, Yep, he would
be by far and away, Yeah, the biggest.
Speaker 3 (01:02:43):
Now we have like eight teams.
Speaker 4 (01:02:44):
You need a quarterback, right, And that's been the case
every year that we've seen in the last couple of years.
Especially good quarterback play is hard to come by. Yeah,
Dak has every incentive to just wait this out for
another year.
Speaker 3 (01:03:00):
He was an MVP conversation this season, Yes, and he
can do it again.
Speaker 4 (01:03:03):
Okay, And the thing is, I don't know what the
Cowboys really do because Dak has all the power here,
He has all the leverage. He does not have to
sign an extension, especially if it's less than top dollar,
because he knows if he waits a year and goes
to free agency, some team's going to give him sixty
million dollars a year. It's good because that's what quarterback
(01:03:25):
contracts are going to command, especially, Yeah, good quarterback contracts.
And when you look at how this Cowboys franchise has
not built around him, which is why I brought this up.
Why does Dak? Why why would Dak give them a
team friendly deal? Why would Dak at all help the
Cowboys out win again? He has all the leverage.
Speaker 3 (01:03:46):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:03:47):
Yeah, but you're also you're also you're not going to
get the outside deals that you get, the sponsorships, the
brand deals, that you have being connected to the Cowboy brand.
Speaker 4 (01:03:57):
That's what the Cowboys are going to try and sell you.
Speaker 3 (01:04:00):
But it's true.
Speaker 4 (01:04:01):
Your star power doesn't go away just the second you
leave the.
Speaker 2 (01:04:04):
Star power, but there is a certain power connected with
the brand.
Speaker 4 (01:04:08):
There's a power connected with being one of the thirty
two starting quarterbacks in the NFL, and Dak Prescott is
a really well known one and he's going to continue
to play at a really high level. Not to mention
whatever team he goes to, if he takes any sort
of dip in sponsorship deals, he's probably gonna make up
for in his contract.
Speaker 3 (01:04:26):
Yeah, I just have such a hard time, like.
Speaker 4 (01:04:27):
It's I don't think there's as much to that, to
be quite honest. I get the Dallas Cowboys are the
biggest global brand, yeah, of American football. But at the
same time, you are still one of thirty two starting
quarterbacks he has spent this long being part of and
he's very beloved amongst Dallas Cowboy fans. He is you
see how they ride for him and teammates. Yeah, so
(01:04:51):
that doesn't just all go away. He's still going to
get the deals and even.
Speaker 3 (01:04:54):
Again ends up staying in Dallas.
Speaker 4 (01:04:57):
I hope not. I want to see Dak go somewhere else.
Speaker 3 (01:05:00):
Be great. Dang hot take, hot take not for.
Speaker 4 (01:05:04):
Douct all right, Cowboys fans, it's not organization.
Speaker 2 (01:05:07):
I'd feel like we have a lot more to get
on that on another day. But right now, let's check
in with Martin Wise to see what's trending.
Speaker 7 (01:05:14):
The Denver Broncos reportedly trading wide receiver Jerry Judy to
the Cleveland Browns that he changed for a fifth and
sixth round pick in this year's draft. The Broncos, now,
after five days, have cleared nearly fifty million dollars in
cap space. Meanwhile, you know they do have Russell Wilson's
eighty five million dollar dead capick coming right around the corner.
Philadelphia Eagles signed defensive end Brandon Graham to a one
(01:05:35):
year extension. Meanwhile, the Eagles have given linebacker Assan Reddick
permission to facilitate a trade and have been taking trade
calls on defensive end Josh Sweat. The Athletics downer Rassini
is reporting that the Chargers are open to trade offers
for Joey Bosa and Khalil Mack, but he may not
get any because many teams are waiting to see if
the veteran pass rusher will get cut.
Speaker 3 (01:05:55):
Earlier today that Kansas that Iowa State score. It was
Kansas State. They upset them, sixty five to fifty eight.
Did you see how many people tweeted you about that?
Several did? I got you, Martin, I got you, you know,
and I appreciate the collaborative effort.
Speaker 5 (01:06:07):
You know.
Speaker 7 (01:06:08):
It's a family atmosphere over here at Fox Sports Radio,
number sixty to Alabama. They beat Arkansas and Tuscaloosa earlier
today ninety two to eighty eight. Right now in live
college basketball, we have the Houston Cougars over the Kansas
Blue Jays. I mean, fifty five to twenty nine with
thirteen minutes left in the second half.
Speaker 3 (01:06:28):
It's not close.
Speaker 7 (01:06:29):
There. Also we have Kentucky and Tennessee, two top twenty
five teams. Kentucky with a forty four to thirty seven
League Marquette Marquette rather with a trailing by two to
Xavier right now, Xavier only fifteen and fifteen on the year.
Marquette the eighth rade team in the nation. Samford, Mary Mack, Longwood, Bryant,
Wagner and Monmouth all advanced in their respective conference tournaments
(01:06:51):
as we prepare for March Madness, and in the one
NBA game in session right now, about four minutes left
in the third quarter, the Clippers and the Bulls Los
Angeles with a five point seventy six to seventy one.
Speaker 3 (01:07:01):
Back to you, guys, Thank you Martin.
Speaker 2 (01:07:03):
You're listening to Fox Sports Saturday Alex Career with Carmen Vitali.
We are broadcasting live from a Tarik dot com studios
in Los Angeles. Thank you for spending your Saturday afternoon
with us. But any time right now to bring in
our next guest Fox Sports NFL writer. Let's give it
up for Greg Awman. Greg, thank you so much for
joining the show.
Speaker 5 (01:07:23):
Hey, thank you guys for having me on. Appreciate it.
Speaker 3 (01:07:25):
We love it.
Speaker 5 (01:07:25):
Now.
Speaker 2 (01:07:25):
You were just in Indy with Carmen last week. We
got two weeks ago at the combine. Two weeks ago
for you, what was the biggest storyline coming out of
the NFL Combine?
Speaker 5 (01:07:36):
You know, I think we had hoped we'd hear some
news in terms of you know, movement on ad Justin
Fields trade or something like that. So there really wasn't that.
I mean, I think to see the quarterbacks, to get
to talk to the quarterbacks and get a field for
them was probably important. You know, I was impressed by
even some of the first two or three days talking
to Jared Verst, talking to Brock Bowers. You'll see how
(01:07:58):
much there's an offensive tilt at the top of this draft.
There might not be an eventsive bick in the top
eight of the top ten pick. So definitely validated that
the idea that the quarterbacks and the receivers and the
tackles are probably the elite guys at the top of
this draft.
Speaker 4 (01:08:12):
I loved seeing how deep this offensive line class, especially
tackles is right now. I mean it's it's top heavy,
but then it goes all the way down. The other
purpose of the combine Alex and I were discussing earlier
in the show is just the networking, and this is
where you build relationships, and this is where you get
to talk to your teams and Greg, you covered the
(01:08:32):
entire NFC South. Baker Mayfield is a big topic of discussion.
Speaker 3 (01:08:38):
And what were you what what.
Speaker 4 (01:08:40):
Did you come out of the combine feeling like was
kind of the Bucks order of operations when it comes
to Baker obviously they just signed Mike Evans to a
new two year extension. What are you hearing now about
Baker Mayfield? And is that domino going to fall quickly here?
Speaker 5 (01:08:57):
I think so. I mean in the talk in Indye,
you wondered which was the alpha, which contract would yield
to the others most easily, you know, and I probably
would have thought it was Mayfield leading to Evans. Honestly,
I haven't seemed like the more the one more likely
to leave, if you will, the one. Honestly, the way
(01:09:18):
things worked out probably helps them more to have Mike
on board. If there was any lingering doubt in Baker
Mayfield's mind about being comfortable in Tampa and this being
what he had last year, I really think they've done
everything they can to help allay those conterns, bringing Mike back,
hiring an offensive coordinator in Liam Collen he has ties
with and a relationship with that. They've kind of done
(01:09:39):
what they can. Now it's just a matter of figuring
out a dollar value number that'll make them happy. But
I think they set themselves up. I mean this offseason,
you wondered if they could keep kind of the big four,
if you will, in Mayfield and Winfield in Mike Evans
and LATA data, and I think they're in position to
do that.
Speaker 4 (01:09:57):
Yeah, that was kind of my other thing then, was
to say they've done all of this work that would
suggest that Mayfield is their guy, and with Liam, with
the Liam Cohen hiring, and with making sure that Mike
Evans got that new contract, because Baker, even though he
only had a year with him, was very vocal about
wanting Mike back on this team and having that one
(01:10:18):
two punch that is him and Chris Godwin. Still, So
what do you think then is going to be the
I don't know, like, did they kind of check all
the boxes for Baker in Tampa or is there something
that he could seek elsewhere or that something that he
could get elsewhere that he can't get in Tampa at
this point, after Tampa has done so much work to
make Tampa kind of Baker's home.
Speaker 5 (01:10:41):
I think it's easy. I think it's just don't fumble this,
you know. I mean they have the one thing. You
think about what Baker went through in twenty two to
be with three teams, to have just kind of the
career drop off that he had, and then to be
able to reset himself in Tampa and find a city
that he likes to call home, in a team that
embraced him as a leader, an offense that got him
(01:11:01):
to career highs and touchdowns and yards. Even if he
got more money somewhere else, all he's doing by leaving
to go to another team is rolling the dice and
wondering is it going to be like Tampa or is
it going to be like these brief days he had
in Carolina or the Rams. He didn't really have that
much control over the second time. But I just think
there's a familiarity and a comfort here that no other
(01:11:22):
team can offer him. And I think all the Bucks
now have to do is kind of figure out that
number that lets him feel valued and respected but still
allows them to build a division winner around him.
Speaker 2 (01:11:34):
Now, Baker is I would say, top two quarterback on
the market right now. How close are they to that
same number? The Bucks and Baker of where they want
to be?
Speaker 5 (01:11:43):
I mean, you'll hear different things in talking to people
on both sides. I don't think they're far off. It'll
surprise me if Monday at noon gets here and they
haven't been able to figure something out.
Speaker 3 (01:11:53):
I mean Yeah, we're close, So I.
Speaker 5 (01:11:55):
Don't think they're far off, just because I think that
they want each other, they want to work this out.
There's not a there's not an obvious like ooh, that
would be tempting. The other teams can write a big check,
and I think there's definitely other teams that would maybe
pay more. It's kind of like whichever of Atlanta or
Minnesota doesn't get Kirk Cousins in this Okay, Okay, they're
going to be They're going to be kind of wondering
(01:12:16):
how much of a drop off there is if they
don't go after Mayfield. So there's the chance that one
of those two has already relayed a number to him.
That'll make it tempting. But like I said, I don't
think he's going to know those coaches in Atlanta. He's
had a little bit of time with Raem Moore, so
wouldn't be a completely blind situation. But yeah, no, the teammates,
there's no the city. It's just you're you're kind of
(01:12:39):
taking a blind date when when you have something pretty
good you could come back to. So they just have
to make sure that the money isn't an obstacle. And
I think they'll be able to do that.
Speaker 2 (01:12:47):
So the other top quarterback available Kirk Cousins, on the
free agent market right now. There have been rumors of
him to the Falcons. What are you expecting him to
end up back in Minnesota or end up at a
place like Atlanta.
Speaker 5 (01:13:02):
I don't know what Minnesota's commitment level is to him,
but I know why Atlanta would swing for it, you know,
to see to see the Falcons last year and kind
of their summer of inaction, not going after a big
free agent, not pursuing Lamar Jackson in trade, not moving
up in the draft, and just letting it ride with
des Ritter. That didn't work, you know, and that's why
(01:13:23):
Arthur Smith has gone That's why they were seven and ten.
So now to think that the same GM and to
think that remorse could make the same mistake two summers
in a row would really surprise me. So, whether that's
writing a huge check to get Kirk Cousins, whether that's
making a trade to get justin fields where you have
to lose a little bit in draft capital but you
don't have to pay nearly as much for a starting quarterback,
(01:13:45):
or whether that's moving up from eight. I mean that's
one of those where if you're sitting at eight, there
might be four quarterbacks off the board right now. So
standing pat, that's not a good number to stand pat at.
If you're really looking to get a rookie quarterback, moving
up from eight to three again would cost you this
year's two and next year's one. But I do think
it's one of those things where if all they do
(01:14:06):
is take what comes to them, they're asking for disappointment again.
Speaker 4 (01:14:10):
Yeah, and I've heard a lot of chatter. We talked
about this a lot where it really does seem like
Atlanta might just be a quarterback away.
Speaker 5 (01:14:19):
Yeah, right. I mean the defense was there. They've changed coordinators,
but I think the defense showed enough, the offensive talent
showed enough. That offensive line they've spent a lot to
keep together. There were definitely games last year where if
they just don't make mistakes of the quarterback pocsions, they
win and instead of seven and ten, they are right
(01:14:40):
there in the stake of the NFC South and maybe
a playoff team. So it feels a little bit like
New Orleans and that I think everybody get excited because
Derek Carr came on, and I think kirk Cousins would
have a similar impact in lending a credibility to the team.
I don't know if it'll be the same result or
more than the nine wins that New Orleans got, but
you have somebody who's been prolific in the league for
(01:15:02):
a decade, hasn't necessarily had postseason success. But if you
this falcon right now, you just want to get to
the postseason. If you get to the playoffs, you lose
in the first round, that that resets the clock. It's
been too many years since you did that. So I
think that's the bare minimums. You want to get back
to the playoffs. And if kirk Cousins does that for you,
that's a win.
Speaker 2 (01:15:20):
And when you look at the NFC South, I mean,
it's not that far away. I've heard there were two
lins away from being the same record as the Saints
and the Bucks, and the Bucks ended up going on.
Speaker 3 (01:15:29):
So it's it's doable. Greg.
Speaker 2 (01:15:31):
We appreciate you so much for joining us. Thank you
for all of the inside. I hope you have a
great weekend.
Speaker 5 (01:15:36):
Thanks Grevy, thanks for having me.
Speaker 2 (01:15:38):
Of course, all right, we're gonna take one more break here,
but when we come back Karen.
Speaker 3 (01:15:42):
And I have our feel good story of the week.
Speaker 2 (01:15:44):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Welcome back to Fox
Sports Saturday. I'm Alex Curry here with Carmen Vitally. We
are broadcasting a live from tire dot Com Studios in
Los Angeles. Thank you so much for spending your Saturday
afternoon with car.
Speaker 1 (01:16:00):
Me and me.
Speaker 3 (01:16:00):
It feels so good to be back. It's so good.
It's so good.
Speaker 2 (01:16:03):
So you know what, We're gonna go out on a
high note here, Yeah, I feel good. Moment of the
week like bittersweet, and that is Jason Kelsey retiring from
playing in the NFL. We all know he's still going
to be talking about it with his podcast. But thirteen
years in the league, super Bowl champion, six time All
Pro center, the only the fifth center to have six
(01:16:26):
All Pro selections, by the way, all the other four
in the Hall of Fame. So there's that that will
be happening. But I love everything about this man. Know
his speeches are always legendary. He took extended cry breaks
in his speech. I love a man who's in touch
with his emotions.
Speaker 3 (01:16:45):
Okay, wonderful like we love it. We are human. This
is amazing.
Speaker 2 (01:16:49):
Also Travis' brother crying in the front row during his speech.
But I think my favorite was his tribute to his
wife Kylie. This was beautiful because she is after I
watched the Kelsey documentary, I followed her and like, she
followed me.
Speaker 3 (01:17:07):
Back and immediately started dming.
Speaker 2 (01:17:08):
I was like, I think you are so cool, You're
so awesome. I fangirl on so many women like that.
I'm like a big girls girl. I love it so much.
But I want to share this sound by with you
guys if you missed it, because this is what real
partnership looks like. You make each other better. And let
me tell you, I'm seventeen years into mine.
Speaker 3 (01:17:28):
It works. Let's play this out.
Speaker 9 (01:17:31):
I won't forget the Eagles Christmas party in twenty fourteen
and heading out afterwards with a bunch of my teammates
to Buffalo Billiards, or my life would change forever.
Speaker 10 (01:17:42):
That night I'd meet my future wife. I still remember
the moment she walked through the door. The first instance
is burned in my retina. It was like she glided
through the opening an aura around her. Then she started talking,
and I thought, Man, is this what love feels like?
She was beautiful and smart, serious yet playful. I knew
(01:18:06):
it right away. I think it's no coincidence. I have
enjoyed my best years of my career with Kylie by
my side. Every accolade I have ever received has come
with her in my life. She has brought the best
out of me through love, devotion, support, honesty, intelligence, and
of course the swift kick in the ass from time
to time. She has also given me three beautiful girls
(01:18:29):
and a life that increasingly brings me more fulfillment off
the field than it does on. We've had a great.
Speaker 8 (01:18:35):
Run, Kai.
Speaker 3 (01:18:37):
Like that is what it's all about.
Speaker 4 (01:18:40):
Voice like Disney movies from now on too.
Speaker 2 (01:18:42):
I mean, he has three daughters, so he's going to
start crying even more now. I remember my dad has
I'm the oldest of four girls. My dad started crying
and everything. Oh yeah, we were all right.
Speaker 3 (01:18:51):
He's going to keep crying, teenagers do. It's like it's
gonna happen.
Speaker 4 (01:18:54):
What's so funny about this story, in particular, is that
I have known this story for years now because a
good friend of mine, Bo Allen, who played with Jason
in Philadelphia and then came to Tampa, where I met
him He tells me this story about Jason Kelsey because
Jason Kelsey has been a favorite player of mine for
a long time. Because my dad's from Philly, I have
(01:19:16):
a soft spot for get Eagles fans, which probably makes
sense with my Cowboys takes and all that other stuff.
Bo tells me this story about how he was there
the night that Jason met his wife Kylie, because they
were at the Eagles Christmas party.
Speaker 3 (01:19:28):
They got trashed at the Eagles Christmas He talked about it.
Speaker 4 (01:19:31):
And then they go to this bar and Bo was like,
I don't know, should you really meet up with this
girl that you don't know that you're trying to impress.
And Jason's like it's gonna be fine. Sure enough, Jason
fell asleep at the bar in front of Kylie and
on that first night, to the point that Bo had
to fire This is on Bo's Wikipedia page, by the way,
had to fire Man Carrie a dead weight. Jason Kelce
(01:19:54):
actually alternaing between dead weight and then fighting Bo carrying
him home and Bo says, to this day, it's the
most physical feat he's ever accomplished in his entire life.
And this is a guy that's climbed Mount Kilman Jarole.
So this is it's an incredible.
Speaker 3 (01:20:10):
Story that we will not ship of love.
Speaker 4 (01:20:13):
And they're still best buddies. They were just i BO
just posted a photo with with Jason. You will not
find a single person that will say anything bad about
Jason Kelson because there is nothing bad.
Speaker 3 (01:20:23):
He is a perfect example him. He's no longer in
the NFL. We love it, but we're going to see him.
Speaker 2 (01:20:29):
Many rats Jason Kelsey, thank you so much for spending
your s'p in here with us.
Speaker 3 (01:20:33):
We'll see you next week, same time, same place. By
guys
