Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
All right, who gets the cash? We'll tell you that
in just about a minute. Good morning, it is that time.
It's the time you can't wait for. It is Fox
Sports Sunday and Fox Sports Radio. He is Bucky Brooks.
I'm Andy Furman, and we are broadcasting live from the
ti raq dot com studios. Ti rack dot com will
help you get there at unmatched selection, fast, free shipping,
free road hazard protection and and he said, over ten
(00:27):
thousand recommended installers, ty rack dot com the way tyre
buying should be. And here he is the one, the only,
mister Bucky Brooks. Hello, Buck, how are you?
Speaker 3 (00:38):
This?
Speaker 2 (00:38):
Thursday gets all on the way the Hall of Fame game.
Football is here. Football's here, Buck.
Speaker 4 (00:44):
Yes, exciting time, Andy, Football is here back together weekend.
You're seeing in all the platforms ESPN, NFL Network and
others where everyone is celebrating football's return. And you're right,
Thursday night Hall of Fame game should be a lot
of fun.
Speaker 2 (00:59):
I don't understand this. That helped me out because you
played the game and I didn't. All right, here's the deal.
You know, teams go to preseason workouts. I mean I
have no idea when they NHL even goes to preseason
camp in September or the NBA. I watch the regular
season preseason. I don't care, but people go they go crazy.
I mean in Cincinnati, and that's where I live, in
(01:19):
the area of Cincinnati, when the Bengal's going to practice,
the practices are such that they limit them to season
ticket holders, and this coming week for practice, they're gonna
let anybody come watch. It's amazing, it really is. I mean,
people just go this salivating over practices. Over drills don't
(01:39):
mean nothing. Seven on seven drills without pads, and people
go crazy. And the TV's at eleven o'clock at night.
They got the TV Sports. They're reporting on it. So
he look good, he looked big. They can't even tell.
But every day there's a story on the NFL before
the season starts. It's not like that in baseball with
spring training. Spring trainings is kind of a kickback they
(02:00):
Asian period and basketball and hockey. No one even cares. Football.
It's got us by the Gonads. That's what it does.
Football's got us. They do well. Hooked.
Speaker 4 (02:09):
Yeah we're hooked. We're also hooked just because the thing
about football. Unlike other sports, every game really matters. When
you only play seventeen games. There's a lot of white
weight on every game that's played there over the course
of the weekend. And because we have so few games,
like people, we leave people wanting more. And so the
football public they only get a chance to see their team.
(02:31):
They only guarantee to see their team seventeen times. And
so when you think about over the course of a year,
man seventeen times is not a lot, and you think
about home fans either eight or nine home games, that's
not a lot of opportunities to see your team. That
really increases the need to go see in practice, to
want to pay attention to what's going on, because the
NFL leaves you wanting more. When it comes to the games.
(02:52):
One hundred and sixty two games in baseball, you can
always kind of put off me, like I just go
check them out next week. Basketball has eighty two. Same
attitude can be used. But with football, with only seventeen games,
everything matters, and it kind of rest up the intensity
on everything.
Speaker 2 (03:06):
I knew you'd have the answer. I knew you'd have
the answer. I mean, that's why I threw it out there.
I knew you'd have that answer. But you know what's
also very similar, I guess with the Olympics because it's
every four years. And today what I was glued to
the set yesterday I had no idea and I had
to look this up that Fiji was a defending gold
team and men's rugby and France beat him yesterday. And
I'm watching the game, I'm watching water polo, I'm watching
it all and the swimming between Australia and the US
(03:29):
of A and the four by one hundred, I think
it's wonderful. Now you know they're creating the villain. You know,
the AUS is now the villain against the US of
A because they showed a clip last night on a
morning show in Australia how they were like dissing the
usfa A swimming team saying they didn't like hearing the
national anthem all the time, and the USA came out
(03:49):
with cow bells and whatever. So this kind of rivalry
and friendly rivalry, but a rivalry no less, and I
think that's what makes sports so great. And I don't
know about you, but I've been watching the Olympics. I
love it.
Speaker 4 (04:00):
Yeah, no, it's been great ast fun You brought that
up because I remember Michael Phelps talking about that. Michael
Phelps look the perennial, legendary champion who's in a broadcaster
role now, but he was still fired up about the comments.
And so you knew that was going to be felt
by the Americans. And the Olympics are a great time
of year. You talk about filling patriotic supporting your country.
(04:21):
You're seeing, I would say, terrific athletes doing amazing things.
That's what the Olympics is all about.
Speaker 2 (04:27):
Here, exactly right. No, I tell you what's an amazing
thing When I hear about Jordan Love getting a big
time contract and two is getting big time contracts, And
I'm trying to scratch my head and figure this out
because I always thought that contracts should be based on
your body of work. And all of a sudden, now
Jordan Love because a four year, two hundred twenty million
dollar deal, and I know last year he passed over
(04:49):
four thousand yards thirty two tds. I got the Packers
in the playoffs after a two and five start, which
is something I guess that Brett Fahr and Aaron Rodgers
never did make the playoffs in their first year and
he did. And then you once told me this, and
I guess this is the reason why. What's the option
you don't sign Jordan Love that a four year deal?
Who do you have? So basically, again, is that leverage situation.
(05:13):
I'm not saying that he's not a good quarterback, not
a great quarterback and not a franchise quarterback. But he's
good and the Packers need him and to need him
and keep him, got to sign him. And now he's
going to get that second contract because he becomes a
free agent again at the age of thirty. So he's
gonna have two biggies in his career, which is unbelievable.
Speaker 4 (05:30):
Really, Yeah, he's gonna have two big contracts in his career.
It is unbelievable to think that he's going to get
that kind of money. But I'm gonna be honest with you.
When you're the Packers and you draft someone in the
first round and when he has an opportunity to find
he played, he plays at the level that he played
at and it's time to get paid. Yeah, you have
to pay him. The alternative wasn't there. Next year's quarterback
(05:52):
class is considered weak by all accounts. When it comes
to the draft, there are not many available options on
the open market. It'll be maybe Yak Prescott and some journeymen.
So if you're the Green Bay Packers, you're looking at
a young guy who has grown up in your system,
who's a great kid, character and all that is terrific.
Those are the ones that you want to pay. Do
(06:14):
you want to reward the good players who are good
people who fit what you're about as an organization. Jordan
Love has done that.
Speaker 2 (06:21):
It's amazing. I mean, fifty five million dollars average a year.
And this matches your guy. Trevor Lawrence and Jacksonville and
Joe Burrow here in Cincinnati. And I look at the
names here and really and truly those three have not
accomplished anything yet they really have Joe Burrow. You know,
in the Cincinnati market, they're ready to build a statue
(06:41):
for the guy and put him in the Hall of Fame.
And I get it. I mean, as he goes, so
goes this team. And he took him to a super Bowl.
But still in all I think this doubt. Last year
he was hurt. He's been hurt several times. He could
be injury prone and I was told now that he's
put on some pounds because some extra weight to make
him maybe more durable. Well, I'm not so short. That's
(07:01):
a good deal. I think your body frame is a
certain way, the way you play. He may not be
his mobile now. They said he put on about twenty pounds.
Now tell me, I mean you've been around, you know.
Is that a good thing that he put on this
extra weight or maybe it'll change his game? I don't know.
Speaker 4 (07:18):
Yeah, no, it looked. It's very similar to what Tua
did a couple of years ago when concussions were thinking
and he took jiu jitsu and added weight to see
if he could kind of curb some of the injuries
that were bothering him. Joe Burrow is trying to do
the same. He's trying to find a remedy that will
keep him on the field, that will prevent him from
having to go to the sideline and leaving his team
with Jake Browning having to play. It's funny that you
(07:40):
bring up, you know, like the guys and a lot
of the conversation about the guys who just have gotten paid,
whether it's Trevor Lawrence to a tongue about Lawa Jordan Love.
A lot of it is like, but they haven't done anything.
They haven't earned it. They haven't they haven't won a
super Bowl, they haven't done any of those other things. Well,
Josh Allen has never won a Super Bowl. Josh Allen
has not been an MVP. He got his payday a
(08:04):
couple of years back. It's not about what you earn,
it's the potential. It's what you bring potentially to the
franchise and individually that ultimately results in whether you get
paid or not. Do people look at you and look
at what you've done to this date, and can they
close their eyes an envision you being one that can
(08:24):
lead the team to a Super Bowl? You being one
that can consistently be a top five quarterback in this league.
If you have those things on your side, well then
you're gonna get the checkbook. Because there's so few. They're
not any quarterbacks in this league. You know, we got
thirty two teams and maybe we have twenty solid quarterbacks
in the league, solid or above. The rest of the
(08:44):
league is searching for someone that can be a consistent
presence under center, because when you have one, you have
to pay one and that's why you see these teams
opening up the checkbook to keep the young players that
have played at a pretty good level.
Speaker 2 (08:58):
I hear what you're saying. And also they're getting the
money because there's no one else. What's the option. There's
no other option. So maybe down the road, these teams
should be saying to themselves, you know, rather than pay
the quarterback that kind of money, let's get a backup
or two that can maybe filling the void. Maybe it's
maybe the backup quarterback becomes a little more important now
(09:19):
in the National Football League. So because money and number two,
these quarterbacks are getting injured too.
Speaker 4 (09:27):
Yeah, but here's the problem when it comes to the
backup quarterback. Right, So, you think you're getting off cheap,
but the backup is a backup for a reason. Most
of the time, the longer the backup play, the more
his warts begin to show up. Backups are typically good
for a game, maybe two games, But if you get
in a situation where you have to play the backup
more than two games, you're going to see what his
limitations are, either physically or mentally when it comes to
(09:51):
decision making and being able to manage the game effectively
to get your team to the winner circle. That's why
backups are that. Now, that's really important that you we
have to have a backup because it's harder for starters
to play a full seventeen games slate. But to think
that you can kind of pinch pennies at the quarterback
position and that gonna happen. You had to pay money
(10:12):
for the quarterback. It's the most important position in football,
and you got to pay him courtingly.
Speaker 5 (10:16):
Well.
Speaker 2 (10:16):
I will say this, when Joe Burrow went down last year,
I was already impressed with Jake Browning. They won with
Jake Browning. And if you remember the division of the
Bengals are in. It was the first time and I
didn't know this, but the Bengals had their media luncheon
on Monday, and I went Mike Brown of all people,
eighty plus years old, he rattled this off right on
the top of his head. Is the first time since
nineteen thirty six that a division at every team of
(10:38):
five hundred or better, and last year was Baltimore over
five hundred. They were all wore you know, Baltimore, Cleveland,
Cincinnati and since I finished last, but they didn't make
the playoffs, but they all finished five hundred or better.
And the other division back in the day was Detroit
Green Bay and both Chicago teams, the Chicago Bears and
then Chicago Cardinals, they all finished over five hundred.
Speaker 4 (10:58):
Yeah, I mean, look, I'm I'm not surprising. It's a
really competitive division, a really good division, one where you
need quarterback play to be at the top level, but
you also have to be very, very talented. And when
you look at Cincinnati and the Versito teams, they all
have a quarterback and that's where it starts, and you
have to have that to compete. And really, when you
(11:18):
look at the AFC, the AFC is loaded with quarterbacks
and you're trying to make sure that you have enough
to compete. Yeah, the money's flying off the boards. It's
flying off the charge. You can already see how much
Dak Prescott is going to get. He's gonna be over
the sixty million dollar mark. That means that Pat Mahomes
is shortly going to be there after and everyone that
comes through. It's only going to go up. It it'll
never come back down.
Speaker 2 (11:39):
It's amazing. And two was signed for one hundred and
sixty seven million guaranteed out of a two hundred and
twelve million dollar contracts. He's like the eighth most expensive
quarterback in the National Football League, But he is a deal.
The bottom line with all of this, Now, who's licking
their chops right now? Dak Prescott he hasn't signed yet.
And I'm going to ask you what's wrong with Jerry Joe?
Why aren't they so Dak prescottas again? What's the option
(12:02):
in Dallas? I don't know what's going on in Dallas
because you got Cde Lamb, Michael Parsons, and Dak Prescott
all wanted to be paid and he's not doing that.
And now the more people get paid and on other teams,
their price goes even up higher. Right, is that the
way it works?
Speaker 4 (12:21):
Yeah? N This is really interesting because with Dak, with
Dak Prescott, you would think that they would already have
gotten this done, right, that they would have already taken
care of this deal. They would have found a way
to give him his money so you could set the
franchise up, you know, the rest of for the rest
of the guys. Hey, how are we going to take
care of these guys? How we gonna you know, how
(12:42):
we're gonna build our team that we got the big
money quarterback, but the Cowboys have been dragging their feet
not only on the quarterback but ceedee lamb Michael Parsons.
And I'm surprised because normally you want to get the
biggest piece done first so you know how to allocate
the rest of the money.
Speaker 2 (12:57):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (12:57):
This to me suggests to the Cowboys are trying to
play it on a wait and see basis, trying to
make it a make or break campaign for Dak Prescott.
But they also have to be willing to roll the
dice and know, hey, Trey Lance can fill in and
do a solid job over Dak Prescott, because that's the
only way you can do that. Because if you're going
to play this game where he actually gets to the
open market, he's not coming back. It's become too personal
(13:21):
for him. He's had thinking about how he's had to
beg and plead for every contract that he's gotten. This
is it. This is the last year Dak Prescott in Dallas,
and they are seemingly moving on, getting ready for life
without him, But they haven't paid the money to the
people that allow them to be able to transition effectively
without Dak Prescott.
Speaker 2 (13:38):
At quarter it's kind of crazy. And you know what,
as good as as Dak Prescott, as he's thirty years
of age, he is going through the final year of
his contract, he's going to play, but for fifty five
million under the salary cap there in Dallas. I have
to say, if someone would to ask me, the MVP
of that Dallas team has to be Michael Parsons. Three
old Pro selections in three years. I mean, this guy
as he goes to some extent, So go to Dallas Cowboys.
(13:59):
You got to get him. Dak Prescott signed c d
lamb okay, but Michael Parsons, he's the guy. Got to
get him, really.
Speaker 4 (14:06):
You do, but you have time to wait. Time is
on your side when it comes to Michael Parsons. Like all,
everybody wants to get paid right now, but everyone has
to understand the pack in order. He's not up yet.
He still has a couple of years that if you
got the option that you can use on him. So
you got to take care of the quarterback, then the
pass catcher, then the pass rusher after that. But you
can't jump over it. If you do that, then you
(14:26):
don't have no chance of being able to get the quarterback.
Speaker 2 (14:28):
And I got to ask you this, I don't know
why Dak Prescott does not get the respect he deserves.
I've seen these top ten quarterback lists and I haven't
seen his name in many of those lists. I believe
he's a top ten quarterback in the National Football League,
and I don't understand why he gets no respect. Why
is that he started all games last year, he was durable.
(14:51):
I don't get it.
Speaker 4 (14:51):
Yeah, yeah, I don't know. See, he's only had one
bad season and that was two years ago, and that
was with the thumb. He broke his thumb and he
had a number of interceptions. Everyone took him the task
for that. He has since curved it. Cut those down
numbers have gone way up. He's been a really good
fit Mike McCarthy's offense. You can see a lot of things.
But last year he played in a level that was high,
high level, up in the top five level, and he's
(15:13):
under that for a few years. He needs to be
in that conversation as the top five quarterback.
Speaker 2 (15:17):
I'm with you right there, all right, we're gonna get
rolland we're just getting started right now. Brianna, are you
with us again today? Are you here maybe she's not.

(18:03):
be tomorrow, Monday morning at Fox Sports Radio dot com.
It's all furnished by tire rack dot com the way
tire buying should be. All right, let's get into this
right now. College football, college football rivalries. I don't know
where they are, bucket, I'm sure, North Carolina had rivalries
Adense State Army, Navy, Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, West Virginia.
(18:24):
They're gone right now, and they had the Big Ten
media days earlier this week, and USC and Ojendame they
played for the very first time ever in nineteen twenty six.
The date was December fourth, The Fighting Irish beat USC
thirteen to twelve in the La Memorial Coliseum and now
ninety four games later on November the thirtieth of this year,
(18:45):
USC's regular finale of this coming season. They'll have two
more future matchups schedule against no Ja Dame October eighteenth,
twenty twenty five, and again November twenty eighth, twenty twenty six. However, however,
now with the current state of college football and now
USC is into Big Ten, that yearly game may go
by the boards, especially if it means a chance at
(19:08):
a national championship. How do I know that? Take a
listen to Lincoln Riley, the coach of USC. That is
what you have to say about it.
Speaker 7 (19:15):
Go ahead, Lincoln, I would love to I would love
to know. I know it means you know a lot
to a lot of people, and so the again, the
purest in you no doubt. Now, if you get in
a position where you've got to make a decision on
what's best for SC to help us win a national
championship versus keeping that shoot, then you got to look
(19:37):
at it. I mean, and listen, we're not the first
example of that. Look all the way across the country,
there's been a lot of other teams sacrifice rivalry games.
I'm not saying that's what's going to happen, but you know,
as we get into this playoff structure and if it
changes not we in this new conference, like, we're going
to learn some about this as we go and what
the right and the best track is, you know, to
(19:59):
winning in that championship.
Speaker 2 (20:01):
Bucky, did you hear that? The fact that he said
that we're not going to do it, the fact that
he mentioned it, that means he's going to do it.
He's going to do it. I mean, how do you
dump that? How do you dump that? Rivalry? USC has
to play Notre Dame and I don't know why Notre
Dame has not come forward and said something about that,
But what's your take on that? Because I think it stinks.
Speaker 4 (20:18):
Well, look it may stink, but we got an expanded playoff.
And so when you have an expanded playoff, you have
to sacrifice some things. If you're a USC, your job
is to put yourself in a position and get to
the playoffs. As much as everyone may love their rivalry
game Notre Dame, in USC, people aren't keeping their jobs
because they either win or lose in their rivalry game.
They're not hanging bandage because you beat Notre Dame three
(20:39):
or four times in a row. What they will do
is they'll pay attention to playoff appearances, national title games.
And Lincoln Riley is fully aware of that, and that's
why he's kind of heads in his bed when it
comes to extending the rivalry. Because the most important thing
for any college football program right now, how can I
get into the playoff? Because when I get into the playoff,
it changes the way that our program is perceived. It
(21:01):
also changes how fans feel about our program in terms
of being legitimate. You know, are we legitimate title contenders?
Everyone wants to be in that conversation.
Speaker 2 (21:11):
All right, But let me run this by. They were
expanding the college playoffs as yet at twelve teams. There's
a possibility, I would think that you could lose two
or maybe even three games and still get in to
be in the top twelve. So why were you dumb?
Note your name? You could lose three games and be
in the top twelve. I think it's wartered down anyway.
I don't think there are twelve teams that will ever
(21:32):
be deserving of going to the playoffs. But that's what
they're doing anyway. So they're expanding to twelve. And I
think what Lincoln Roley is, here's a guy, and you
know this bug, here's a guy after losses last year
at USC wouldn't talk to the media, and now he's
spouting the fact that he's going to dump a tremendous
a tremendous rivalry that the fans pay for. Were they
gonna replace that with Vanderbilt? I mean, come on, an
(21:54):
easy win, give me a break.
Speaker 4 (21:56):
You're gonna be able to do that. But you remember,
the conference is harder, has the prospect of playing difficult
teams Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan. You think about Wisconsin
always being in the conversation as one Iowa. I mean,
there are a lot of tough games in that schedule,
and so if my regular season features a bunch of
(22:17):
conference games against tough teams. Why am I going to
add to the mix another difficult team. It just doesn't
make sense because the end goal is to get into
the tournament. And so whether we like it or not,
I understand why he may not want to play Notre
Dame because his conference schedule is a heavyweight. It's going
to be a monster. It's gonna be a monster each
and every year.
Speaker 2 (22:38):
I hope he loses. I mean, I really do. I
hope he will lose. He will lose, and look, what
he's doing right now is not good for college football.
I think what college football has done right now is
that they've stuck their handout and say how much money
are you going to give me? How much money can
I get? I'm seeing teams from the ACC, from the
West Coast playing on the Atlanta Coast Conference. I think
(22:59):
it's crazy. I think the whole jurymandering move here, what
they've done with college football is ridiculous. It's killing it.
I think that people right now have no idea what
teams are in what conference. The fact that USC is
in the Big ten US he's traveling to Maryland to
play football games. It doesn't make any sense and what
are they going to do with the women's sports, you know,
golf and women's soccer. They're gonna travel to Maryland? I mean,
(23:23):
come on, I mean it doesn't make sense to me.
And the rivalry fact that there has always been a big,
a big play in college football rivalries. It's great, that's
what they do.
Speaker 4 (23:34):
Yeah, I mean it's great. But you know what else
is great?
Speaker 2 (23:37):
Winning champneyship. Money's great.
Speaker 4 (23:38):
So so would you rather have a championship? Would you
rather have a meaningless win over Notre Dame? If you're
a usc you want a championship, and that's what it's
going to be. But we as fans, we can't have
it all right. We can't say, oh, we want to
we want to playoff. We want you to play tough
teams in the regular season, no cupcakes, no lower level teams,
(24:01):
and every game is a heavyweight. That just doesn't work, man.
You just can't do that. You can't sustain your program
if you're taking on heavyweights each and every week. Just
doesn't work like that.
Speaker 2 (24:11):
Well, look, I mean, Dave already us he's already dumped
Old Miss. They were supposed to play Old Miss this
season and in twenty twenty six, that game was canceled.
Who was canceling in June? But Riley came out and
said the cancelation had been in the works. I don't
believe it. You know what, Lincoln Riley, You're full of it.
You're full of it. I don't believe you, and I
hope you lose every game of USC.
Speaker 4 (24:30):
I hate Okay, So wait a minute, Wait a minute.
So are you just as mad as at Alabama and
some of those schools that schedule Western Carolina and the
Citadel and those things as they're trying to reset. You
want them to take on another heavyweight instead of kind
of taking a break like they do in the middle
of it.
Speaker 2 (24:46):
They I like that because they're giving those smaller schools
their paycheck for the athletic department for the whole year
to give that guarantee money. All right, Look, I'm upset
that Oklahoma's not playing Oklahoma State anymore. That was a
big rivalry when I lived in Oklahoma. I mean, rivalries
are great. People love that. The fans love it, all right.
At Alabama, You're right, but I think they used to
that playing that the Western Alabama's and all that stuff.
(25:07):
I think they used to that stuff.
Speaker 4 (25:09):
I mean they're used to it because they've done it
for so long. Like tradition starts with one. So if
you have to start doing some of those things, if
you're a s C, but you cannot continue to take
on all of those robbery games. The thing that you
can sustain yourself and it's gonna be hard. What's gonna
be interested is looking at what Notre Dame does Notre
Dame may play part of an ACC schedule, but they
(25:29):
got to play some heavyweights too to remain relevant. We
saw Army, one of the only independent teams in college football,
join the conference just because they wanted a pathway to
the playoff. The playoff, Trump's everything. Everything that you do,
every decision that you make, scheduling is about putting yourself
in a position to get into the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (25:48):
Well, you're right about that. We'll see what happens this
year in college football. Playoffs are great, But I don't
think there's twelve teams that may be worthy for the players.
But you know, time will tell, Bucky Brooks, but you
think the teams out there, I mean I liked that
when there were four teams in that fifth team was
like rubbing their nose against the glass trying to get in.
I mean, and there was some sort of an argument
(26:09):
about the fact, I mean twelve team. Do you really
think there are twelve deserving teams they're going to put
the automatic conference winners in? I get that, okay, But
other than that, do you think there were twelve deserving
teams that will be available for the playoffs?
Speaker 4 (26:22):
In your local area? Your high school bracket breaks down
with sixteen teams. That's what we've grown up with. Knowing
the NFL has fourteen teams in the playoffs. Do we
think that all fourteen of those teams have a legitimate
shot of winning the Super Bowl? No, but we tune
in because you just never know. The Green Bay Packers
knocked off the Dallas Cowboys, we didn't see that. Twelve teams.
(26:42):
To me, it's enough to get all the automatic qualifiers,
all the teams that used to be on the line,
and then some of the small schools, a small school
team or out a group of five teams will kind
of pop in there and maybe have an opportunity to
play against some of the monsters that we see in
college football. To me, twelve teams is the right number.
Only an expanded of fourteen twelveteens is just the right number.
Speaker 2 (27:03):
And you know I'm gonna watch it anyway. Okay, it'd
be a good fun out to talk about, to see
what's going on if the team in fact was deserving
to get in. But as I say, time will tell
Bucky Brooks, Andy Fervwick call this Fox Sports Sunday on
Fox Sports right now. Coming up next on Fox Live
for the Tyraq dot com studios, we'll tell you what
makes baseball great. That is next. But first, so real greatness,
(27:24):
Kevin Wyatt with your sports.
Speaker 8 (27:26):
Yeah, we're seeing plenty of greatness now across the pond
over in Paris. The games of the thirty third Olympiad
in full swing, and the big rivalry of these games
in the swimming pool, the United States and Australia really
going neck and neck, and it's the Americans getting the
gold medal in the four by one hundred freestyle relay.
(27:47):
Caleb Dressel anchoring that team to help the United States
edge out Australia for the gold medal. And for Dressel
it is his eighth career gold medal and his first
one of these twenty four Olympics. But For the women's
side of things, Ari r and Tipmis wins the four
hundred meter freestyle as she edges out Katie Ledecci for
(28:11):
the win. Katie Layecky does make the podium, winning a
bron says she adds to her illustrious career. Basketball. Canada
over Grease eighty six to seventy nine, as Giannis attended
to Coompo had thirty four points. The United States will
be playing this morning eleven to fifteen am Eastern time.
(28:32):
They'll be taking on Serbia. Now, this is an interesting
development in soccer. The Canada women's national soccer team, the
head coach Bev Priestman suspended for a year because they
used drone to spy on opponents practices, including twice in
the past week in France ahead of the Olympics. And
ESPN will report last night saying that the US Soccer
(28:54):
Federation is aware of a long pattern of similar circumstances
involving Canadian teams that tempting to view other team's close practices,
and that some of them even involved American teams. So
plenty more shoes to drop, I think in this story,
and we'll see exactly what happens. What consequences there might
(29:14):
be for Canada for doing this? So very interesting story. Indeed,
in Major League Baseball trade a deadline is coming up,
the Yankees getting Jazz Chisholm Junior from the Marlins in
exchange for three minor league prospects, and ESPN saying the
Nets finalizing a trade to acquire outfielder Jesse Winker from
(29:35):
the Washington Nationals. That's for the action on the diamond.
Yankees beat the Boston Red Sox in ten innings, eleven
to eight as Aaron Judge cranks his thirty seventh home run.
The Houston Astros erase a five nothing deficit to beat
the Dodgers seven to six. Alex Bregman with a ninth
inning home run, show hey O Taani hits his thirty
(29:56):
second home run of the season. The Giants a double
header win against the Colorado Rockies, winning Game one four
to one, Game two five nothing. Blake Snell didn't get
the win, got a no decision, but he's certainly pitched
well enough to deserve it fifteen strikeouts and just six
innings of work.
Speaker 2 (30:13):
Padre is on a roll.
Speaker 8 (30:14):
They man it's seven straight wins with a nine to
four victory against the Orioles and the Braves ending a
six game losing streak as they shut out the Mets
four to nothing.
Speaker 2 (30:23):
Bet you guys, all right, Kat, thanks so much. And
another tradition, is it leaving us? Well, we'll get to
that in just about a minute. He's Bucky Brooks. I
mean they Furman. We are Fox Sports Sunday, Fox Sports Radio,
of course, and asked Bucking in about seven eight minutes
for now. And let's talk baseball, all right, let's talk
baseball for a second. And uh, baseball different from the
(30:43):
other sports, and in fact, it was once the national pastime.
Can we agreen out book? That is no longer the
national pastime? I think it's passed us by to some extent,
no longer we can we agree with that, okay. But
one of the reasons why baseball at one point in
time was so beautiful, and to some it's still is
He's played in the summer, played at night, weather's warm.
But it's the only sport that's timeless, well, the only
(31:05):
sport without a clock, and baseball has the arguments. Umpires
and managers like Earl Weaver, Loopanela and Jeff Frank Corr,
the former Atlanta Brave now with TV analysts for that team.
He agrees, And let's take a little peak and list
of what Jeff Frank Corer had to say about umpires
in Major League Baseball.
Speaker 3 (31:25):
The full on Robot Stretcher. Are you in favor or not?
Speaker 9 (31:29):
I am not for the sole fact that I think
what makes baseball great is the arguments. I played for
Bobby Cox right there was nothing better than watching him
go out there screen the fans go crazy.
Speaker 4 (31:41):
You know you're getting tossed.
Speaker 9 (31:42):
I mean, I tell people Bobby Cox got thrown out
of one hundred and sixty two games. That is a
full season of games every night. He's going to take
away from that, you know, because it's going to be
tough to argue that because they can switch it or
do whatever.
Speaker 3 (31:55):
But I think it's coming.
Speaker 9 (31:58):
Look between gambling and everything else that's going on in
baseball because of that, But I will miss the interaction
and the umpires.
Speaker 2 (32:06):
Yeah, I'm with Jeff Francorp because I guess a roebut umpires.
I think they do have them in some lower divisions
of the minor leagues right now, and again it's a
course saving measure. I'm sure of that, But I like
the arguments. I like when the Earl Weaver would take
his had put it on backwards and Loup Panela would
kick dirt on home play to take up a base
and throw it to the outfield. So I think that's
the entertainment value of baseball and to have a robut
(32:28):
calling the balls and strikes, I'm against it, I really,
And I'll tell you why. While we're doing this, let's
get rid of replace, because you know you can have
the human error. There's no problem with having a guy
making a mistake. But I'll tell you right now, I
watch the NBA and in the fourth quarter with this
five minutes to go, the five minutes takes thirty five
minutes with replays and timeouts. I can live without that.
(32:48):
Let's live with out the replace too. What do you think.
Speaker 4 (32:53):
Look, as much as I would like for it to
just be all humans in those things, I think you
want to put some in hand to make sure that
you can help humans avoid like the human error in
a critical situation. So I like replay. I think there
should be like a handful of challenges that you're able
to play it. But what I don't want is a
disruptive flow to the game. We finally shorten the game down.
(33:15):
We got to pitch clock and all those other things.
Everything is trending in the right direction. I just don't
want to boge it down. So I'm okay with like
appeals and those things. I don't want a robot, but
I kind of want that mix. I want that mix
of human and artificial intelligence being able to help us
make some of these decisions.
Speaker 2 (33:33):
Okay, But they talk about momentum, you know, teams on
a momentum. Say they have a run in basketball, and
all of a sudden, there's a replay, official skills of
time out and whatever. Maybe the momentum factor is lost.
I think it's a big part of basketball. I really do.
The momentum when you're on that run.
Speaker 4 (33:49):
Yeah, I mean, matter of factor, it is lost. And
you're right, it is a big factor in those things
you talking about being on the run and making things
happen and kind of feeling the energy in the stadium
and all that. Yeah, all of that is a part
of it. And when you remove the human element, yeah,
it becomes kind of like a board game. And I
think we like seeing our games that have a lot
(34:11):
of pass and a lot of intensity in those things.
I think you take away from that when you begin
to put computers in those things, in prominent roles.
Speaker 2 (34:19):
And the umpires, some of these umpires of characters too.
I remember, way back in the day, I think Emmet Ashford.
I mean, I don't know if you'd go back that far,
but Emmett Ashford in the American League. I mean he
was a character. Eric Greg. You know, when I was
doing local radio in Cincinnati, I'd have Eric Greg on
the radio after the ball I used to do a
postgame show with the Cincinnati Reds and Eric Greg would
would come up and undo the show with me. He
(34:40):
was great. May he rest in peace, Eric Greg in
his passed. But Eric Greg waited about three fifty coming
to the studio after the ball game. You know what
about seven sandwiches and the three quarts of I don't
want to say what it was, but he drank it.
But Eric Greg was great. He must have waited about
three fifty. I don't know how he passed the physical
to become an umpire, really, but I loved Eric Greg.
I really did. You're not gonna have these guys anymore.
(35:01):
I think you need characters. That's what makes baseball really does.
Speaker 4 (35:05):
Yeah, it is. I mean, it's a part of it. Now.
The one thing that will cautioning is though no one
came to see you, no one came to see the umpires.
So let's make sure you can be a part of
the show, but you're not the main show. And understand
what your role is in that.
Speaker 2 (35:19):
Good point, you know what that that's why you're the best,
really because I go off on a tangent and you
kind of reel me in. It's like a rodeo. You
reel me in and you make you make me see
the common sense of it. Okay, I just spew out stuff.
I'm a little I'm a little wild, I admit at
the times. You know, that's why I need you. You
kind of rope me back in like a calf, Like
a calf. Bucky brooks Andy Furrman. We are Fox Sports
(35:42):
Sunday on Fox Sports Radio. It is time for answers.
Where do you go to? Bucky? It's Bucky, It's freaking next.
Speaker 3 (35:49):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at Foxsports Radio
dot com and within the iHeartRadio app. Search FS to
listen live. It's Bucky coming right up. It's about eleven
minutes now before the top of the hour. This says
Fox Sports Sunday on Fox Bus Radio.
Speaker 2 (36:06):
Bucky is Bucky Brooks and Andy Furman, and we are
live from the ti raq dot Com studios.
Speaker 4 (36:11):
Are you ready?
Speaker 2 (36:12):
Are you ready? I know you're ready. Here we go. Okay,
let's do it. The NFL, and at least in the
state of Ohio, they're looking to mandate all stadia with
grass playing surfaces. How important is it to be playing
on grass rather than smoking?
Speaker 4 (36:29):
I guess well, I mean it's only important in terms of,
like it's a software surface than any of the field turfs.
And so there's something about like being able to play
on plush grass is there's some give to it that
exists where others don't. The problem is this super expensive,
and so ownership has to spend a lot of money
and a lot of time making sure they've maintained those fields,
(36:51):
particularly in those cold climates where where there's a big factor.
Speaker 2 (36:54):
You know, let's get into that for a second. Because
there's so much money spent and there's so much worries
about injuries and things like that. I don't think there's
any study really that has been done that says grass
prevents injuries? Does it? I don't know, but I would
think that it'd be better studies.
Speaker 4 (37:11):
Yeah, you have some studies.
Speaker 2 (37:13):
Yeah, I would think grass would be a little safe,
a wee bit safe at least easier on the knees
because when you're playing on that turf, it's like playing
on concrete, isn't it, especially in the cold.
Speaker 4 (37:25):
Yeah, And so that's the thing, but it's hard to maintain.
And also from an esthetic look on TV when it
gets to the fall and gets to the winner, grass
turns brown. Doesn't look good on your TV like astro turf.
Speaker 2 (37:37):
Does they spray?
Speaker 4 (37:38):
It has something doing it?
Speaker 2 (37:40):
They spray? I think they do, all right. Speak of importance,
this inside the NBA. How important is the Inside the
NBA show for the NBA because it's going to be
gone after next season and where's Barkley and Charles Barkley
will be somewhere, I'm sure.
Speaker 4 (37:55):
Yeah. So No, it'd be interesting to see how that
plays out because they've been discussing about inside the NBA
maybe going over to ESPN. Barkley can be a free agent.
All of those things like it's sad that Turner no
longer would be involved in the NBA. But things go on.
I mean we've seen it in football. We saw for
a long time NBC was one of the football channels,
(38:16):
then it went away CBS. I mean that's part of
the deal. You have to pony up to continue to
be a part of the league. And Turner was reluctant
or slow the pony up, which is why they're on
the outside looking in now.
Speaker 2 (38:27):
And how small was Charles want to say he could
have a no trade clutch over being that we could
be a free agent. That's pretty wise on his part.
Speaker 4 (38:36):
Yes, I mean pretty wise, like he negotiated a really
good deal for himself.
Speaker 2 (38:39):
He should did. All right, the eighteen game NFL schedule,
that's on the horizon, going to be eighteen games, I'm sure.
But the Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow says, that's okay, but
I want to get two bye weeks, and he said
that there's been a lot of pushback. Why would there
be a lot of pushback. I think it's a good
idea to have two bye weeks if you play an
eighteen game schedule.
Speaker 4 (38:57):
Yeah, yeah, like you want two by weeks. You have
to break. There's no way you can go eighteen games
but only one by week you need to you can
eliminate one of the preseason games. It slots in nicely.
You just have to figure out when and where do
you want to put those buys in or is it
a league wide mandated buy or do you kind of
stagger it so you never kind of lead the field
to play. It'd be interesting to see because the CFLs
(39:20):
done with two, has done it with two by weeks
forever and it hasn't impacted their league at all. There's
a way to do it. You just got to be
smart in how you do it.
Speaker 2 (39:28):
Okay, explain this to me because I'm hearing the term
right now. Not only does players have a holdout, but
now there's a hold in in the NFL. What is
the difference? Please explain that to me.
Speaker 4 (39:39):
Yeah, hold out, hold in. So what happened The public
wasn't paying attention, but when they redid this CBA to
collect a bargaining agreement, they put poison pills in which
really restricted players from being able to hold out. The
fines a punitive maybe forty fifty thousand dollars a day,
for being away and teams can't wave those fees to combat.
To that, players started doing wing not agreements with teams,
(40:01):
saying I'm gonna come in, but I'm not gonna work,
so that way they avoid the fines. You're around the building,
but you're not getting any work from them. I understand it.
From a player's standpoint, you don't want to give away money.
But from a team standpoint, you should hold firm on
some of these things because all the leverages in the
team's favor.
Speaker 2 (40:17):
All right, Now, I get it because I see Jamar
Chase at Bengals practice. He's wearing his uniform but he's
not playing, so I guess he's a hold in.
Speaker 4 (40:25):
Yeah, he's hold in. That's kind of weird though.
Speaker 2 (40:27):
All Right, two young quarterbacks CJ. Stroud and Jordan Love,
they made big statements last year. Now can these two
take another step forward this season? Or will the NFL
know what these guys have and they'll kind of make
them really work this year and they'll have to sophomore
slump perhaps.
Speaker 4 (40:45):
Oh, I mean, they're gonna make them work this year
because the one thing about the league is once they
figure out who you are, they're gonna change and adapt
and adjust, and then it's on you to continue to
evolve your game to make sure you want step ahead
of the posse. So for Jordan Love CJ. Stroud, everyone
is dug to the tabe. Look at how they performed
last year. They're going to have some answers for how
they performed last year. The trick will be what are
(41:05):
they done to put themselves in position to counter to
counters that they may have inevitably going to see?
Speaker 2 (41:11):
Okay, last one, quickie? Now a team that could go
from last to first this year in the NFL? Is
there such a team?
Speaker 4 (41:17):
Ooh, Chargers?
Speaker 2 (41:19):
There you go?
Speaker 4 (41:19):
Okay, last one first?
Speaker 2 (41:20):
There we go. Now will one NFL team see a
return of their investment? That and more? Next on Fox
Sports Sunday.
Speaker 1 (41:28):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (41:31):
All right, the Race for the Trophy. We'll get to
that in just about a minute. Good morning, everybody. This
is Fox Sports Sunday and Fox Sports Ready. He's Bucky
Brooks and Andy Furman. I went brocasting live from the
ti rack dot com studios. Ty rock dot Com will
help you get there. At umtched selection fast free shipping,
free road has a protection and over ten thousand recommended
installers tire rock dot com. The way tire buying should
(41:53):
be here is Bucky Brooks Hour number two, rocking and
rolling till the top of the There we go. All right,
let's get into this football team. Because again, as I
always mentioned, Bucky Brooks is a writer, he's a coach,
he's a player, you name it. He's a personnel guy.
Scout NFL dot com every Friday. He's got this column
(42:14):
coming up. Just click writers and scroll down to Bucket Brooks.
You'll see him. And a little complication this week with
color coding. You got to help me out, all right.
You had the teams that you think are the best
chance to win the Super Bowl this year, and you
rated them by the personnel they have by color Help
me out here, because I don't have the color coding
in front of me. How did you do? And what
(42:35):
it's all about?
Speaker 4 (42:36):
Okay, so now it's not about this year. So what
I wanted to do is I'm due to exercise where
we were rating the championship windows. Teams who have a
window that extends beyond this year, the teams that should
be good for the next three to four years based
on the personnel. And what we did is we ring
blue chippers the guys who are considered like top five,
(42:56):
top ten of their positions around the league. Greens were
solid starters, Pinks were first year guys that are still
yet to be determined how good they will be. Yellows
there's questions about them, whether it's injury or contract that
prevent them from being long term solutions and so. And
during the exercise, we kind of broke it down and
tossed it around. And some of the teams that at
the top of the food chain doesn't necessarily mean they
(43:20):
will continue to be there going forward, just based on
how their roster is composed, and some of the guys
nearing the end of the line when it comes to
their age.
Speaker 2 (43:28):
Okay, so this is a little complicated for me. You
got to help me out because I'm not that smart.
Speaker 4 (43:32):
It's not complicated. It's not complicated like the way I get.
Speaker 2 (43:34):
Missed up with the colors. I really I'm a little
color blind.
Speaker 4 (43:37):
No, no, no, just think about it. Blue blue is everything, right,
blue chippers. So you hear people refer to players as
blue chip players. Blue chip players are your best players
and most championship teams should have eight to ten blue
chip players at a championship level. But the way that
we did it, we broke out twelve positions and teams
(44:00):
are comprised of like the Big twelve, and so quarterback
is three offensive linemen, three offensive playmakers, two pass rushers,
and then three defensive playmakers that play on the second level.
So linebacker dB as a weld. So of those twelve,
if you have six seven blue chip players, you're in
(44:23):
the money when it comes to being a championship team.
And if you have them in their prime where their
ages are like twenty five to twenty eight, then you
feel good about being able to sustain to run for
a few years.
Speaker 2 (44:35):
Okay, so according to your calculations here, you got the
Kansas City Chiefs one, which is like they have the
best opportunity to repeat for the next several years at
least be a Super Bowl contender this year. Because on
the blue Chippers of Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelcey, and Mahomes
is twenty eight, quarterback Kelsey a tight end is thirty four.
It looks like you got the cornerback Trump McDuffie at
(44:57):
twenty three. He's a blue chipper as well. Okay, So
in other words, it's the Kisa City Chiefs. So that
that's I mean, it seems to me you did a
lot of work, a lot of preparation, which you know,
and I'm kind of a lazy kind of guy. I
could have said the same thing with all these color codings,
right with the Kansas City's possibility, right, kends is to
be a good chance to repeat, to go to the
Super Bowl, right, Chris Jones the fort tackle.
Speaker 4 (45:19):
Yeah, but what we want to do is we want
to shed light because everyone thinks they're going to be
good just because of the quarterback. But what I wanted
to highlight is look at the rest of their roster.
So Travis Kelce is older, Chris Jones is older, but
look at the other young guys that are playing. Nick Bolton,
Trent McDuffie, whether it's Leono Chanault or Drew Tranquill being
(45:40):
on there, Trey Smith, Creed Humphrey, Joe Thuney, Like, they
have a lot of good players that are in the
prime of their careers. And so even though we'll talk
about Kelsey and Jones, this thing is sustainable. They could
be a good team for a long time.
Speaker 2 (45:55):
Okay, Now, now you got me going here, because so
you've got the Philadelphia Eagles and the Detroit Lions two
and three, right, but you got Jalen Hirts is not
a blue Chipper at quarterback and Jared Goff not a
blue chipper a quarterback. But the Detroit Lions. However, you
still think that these two teams will be Super Bowl
contenders because, as you say, they may have enough blue
(46:15):
chippers even though their quarterbacks are not. Correct.
Speaker 4 (46:20):
Yeah, now, and let's make sure we understand this. Then
we're talking about blue chip players. We're talking about top
five quarterbacks. I can't say if of the two, Jerry
Goff is the one that has the argument that he
could have with me about being a top five player
because he played like a top five quarterback last year.
Speaker 2 (46:35):
Correct.
Speaker 4 (46:36):
Jalen Hurst didn't two years ago. Jalen Hurst was the
runner up to the MVP. Last year, he fell off
a cliff, didn't play well. Green means he's a solid starter,
have a ton of respect for what he is. But
he didn't play at that level. But the people around
him are still good. When we think about the Eagles,
the wide receivers AJ Brown, Devonte Smith respectively, Lane Johnson
on the offensive line, Look, you can talk about ma Alta,
(46:58):
the other offensive lineman that is really good. Defensively, they're
trying to get back to what they were. They don't
have as many Blue Chippers, but they got green guys.
And then in Detroit they are loaded on offense. Their
offense can carry them for a long time. Jerry Goff,
Omamas Saint Brown, Sam Laporter, Jamior Gibbs being a guy
(47:19):
that is outstanding. Offensive lineman Penney Sewell is terrific, and
then Aiden Hutcheson on the defensive side. The Detroit Lions
could make an argument that they should be over top
of the field DEAFI Eagles, and in fact, if you
go back and look at the NFC Championship game last year,
they should have been a team represent in the NFC
in the Super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (47:35):
Well you're right about that, though, I'm looking at the
Philadelphia Eagles, you know, for them to really be in
the running for the Lombardi Trophy again, they don't have
that many blue Chippers. AJ Brown, you got shit. Kwon
Barkley's a blue Chipper right. Other than that, on the
offensive line, I think they got two right Lane Johnson
is he a.
Speaker 4 (47:53):
Blue, James Johnson, Lane.
Speaker 2 (47:55):
Johnson, and maybe in the quarterback position Mitchell is he
a blue chipper. So they got four or five blue
chip and you need, as you said, possibly eight to
be a contender. So the Eagles right now they're kind
of shaky, especially at the quarterback position, because you don't
consider Jalen Hurts, at least last year was not a
blue chipper.
Speaker 4 (48:13):
Now he didn't play it as a blue chip level.
And what I'm trying to do is give Lifetime Achievement awards.
I try and give it on what they did most recently.
And so he hasn't played it at level, so I
can't just give it to him. I can't just say
he's a blue chip player.
Speaker 2 (48:24):
Okay, So now I'm moving to the team Number three?
Is that four? The San Francisco forty nine ers? Do
you am? I correct saying here that the color code
that you have that Brock Purty is a better color
coder than Jared Goff.
Speaker 4 (48:45):
Said. Brock Purdy has played like a top five quarterback
the last two years. Whether you like him or not,
whether you talk about him being too small, he just
doesn't look the part. Brock Party has played like a
blue chip quarterback. That's why I give him all the love.
And people are talking about him surrounded by all that
talent all the time to run him is great. But
he's played.
Speaker 2 (49:02):
Great, Okay, but he's played great because of that town.
He's played great billions of guys like McCaffrey and Kittle
and a that's why he's playing great.
Speaker 4 (49:10):
You know, I saw Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo play
around those same guys and they didn't look like brock
Purdy looked. So I'm gonna give the player the credit
for what he has added to that offense. Jimmy Garoppolo
couldn't make the plays that brock Purdy was making. Trey
Lance couldn't make the plays that brock Purdy is making.
So I'm I'm gonna give brock Purdy his due. He
deserves his flowers. He is a blue chip player in
(49:31):
my book.
Speaker 2 (49:32):
Okay, And according to your calculations here, they only have
five blue chippers correct, Purdy, McCaffrey, Kittle of three. On
the edge, they got Nick Bosey he's four, and Fred
Warner at linebacker. That's five five blue chippers for the
forty nine ers.
Speaker 4 (49:47):
Trent Williams would also be in that conversation. Trim Williams,
he's holding out. Brandon Nyuk could be in that conversation.
But I didn't have enough slots based on those things.
The reason why the nine his fall behind those other
guys looked at the ages of those players. Like those ages,
they're older. Trent Williams is thirty six, George Kittle is thirty,
(50:09):
Christ McCaffrey is twenty eight, which is old for running
back for at Warner's twenty seven. So this window that
they're in, they're nearing the end of their run. They're
still in the conversation this year, but after they paid
Rod party with some of those older guys, they're not
gonna be able to keep all those guys around.
Speaker 2 (50:27):
No, you're right, Okay, here's the key right here, which
kind of like to me makes me want to question
the deal. You got team number five as the Baltimore Ravens,
all right, I got you there, But how could they
be number five if you got seven Blue Chippers on
that roster, including Lamar jacks Well, Lamar Jackson's not a
blue Is he a Blue Chipper? I can't tell him
(50:48):
blue chipper. He's Lamartin, Derek Henry's a blue chipper, Mark
Andrews a tight end, Lyndon Bauma center, he's a blue chipper.
Who else? Kyle Hamilton at safety and Rokine Smith at linebacker, got.
Speaker 4 (51:02):
Sim Smith and Justin Mediwick. Here's okay, here's yeah, But
here's where you have to look at Okay, So one
of the guys who's the key limps you're into their team.
Derrick Henry's thirty years old? Can he continue to play
at that level? Lamar Jackson? Are we confident that Lamar
Jackson iss going to continue to play at that level?
So you give him credit for what he is. He
(51:24):
played at a blue chip level last year. Derick Henry
has played at a blue chip level. But when I
look at them, Mark Andrews, it's twenty eight, I think,
so that's older for a player. So in my mind,
when I look at how they're going to have to
transition over the next two or three years, are they
going to be able to place Derrick Henry? Can they
find another guy as an offensive play making it to
(51:45):
be a blue chip player besides Lamar Jackson? I don't
see it currently on their roster, but I give them
credit for what they have. I give them credit for
being in the conversation because they have a really good
roster of homegrown players. But when I look at maybe
some of the sustain the ability after deeming them a
little bit just because of the age of some of
their blue chair players.
Speaker 2 (52:04):
Okay, look, I'm not here to punch holes in your system,
but yesh, yeah, I get You're right, I am. But
the point is I think it led. It leads to
good conversation and good arguments. Okay, you have to agree
to that because you got team number six in the
Houston Texans, and certainly you got CJ. Stroud, and I
get what you're doing now. He played at a blue
chip level last year even though he was a rookie.
(52:25):
The question is can he do it again at the
age of twenty two? But you only have four blue Chippers,
including CJ. Stroud, a quarterback on the Houston Texas and
their team number six, right, only four on that team,
I mean only four?
Speaker 4 (52:39):
Yeah, only four. But remember now we're also banking on
some of those greens turning into blue. So some of
those solid starters that they have in place, like a
Nico Collins, a tank deal some of those guys, we're
counting on them moving and improving and becoming blue chair
players down the line. We have Will Anderson and Daniel Hunter.
Daniel Hunters a Blue, but we're thinking Will Anderson defensive
(53:00):
Rookie of the Year. Maybe he takes his game up
a notch in year two he becomes a blue. Derekstanely
being a blue player, he continues to play at that level.
So what we're doing some of this is also a
projection that some of these greens are going to turn
into blues. And I want to make sure that I'm
on the front end of the conversation.
Speaker 2 (53:18):
Okay, let's go team number seven, because you got ten
teams here, Green Bay to Green Bay Packers. They don't
have any Blue Chippers. They didn't have one, And I'd
have to argue that Jordan Love played I thought at
a blue chip level. List did the team started two
and five and it got him into the playoffs and
they kind of lost a heartbreaker in one of the
playoff games that could have moved on further. Did you
think Jordan Love played like a.
Speaker 4 (53:37):
Blue Chipper at the last half of the season and
not the entire season. The last half of the season.
He played at a high level. I think the last
half of the season. There was a stretch from maybe
Week nine until the Division A round where he had
twenty one touchdowns and only one interception or two interception. Yeah,
he played at a high level. But that's half a season.
(53:57):
Are we ready to crown him a top five player
for life just because he gave us a flash? I mean, like,
it's not the Lifetime Achievement Award. We just don't give
away the Blues because if we say Blues is a
tough five, like everybody can't make it. Everybody can't make
tough five.
Speaker 2 (54:12):
You're tough, Fucky, you really are. You're tough. I'm too easy.
And what you're saying also is that there's a question
mark over the Green Bay Packers. They may what you're
saying here, according to the charge, they may not be
as successful as they were a year ago because are
the questions they may have right.
Speaker 4 (54:27):
Or you can look at it differently, that this is
a team on the rise because they don't have the
blue chip players yet. Look at the youth that's sprung
throughout there. Look at all these young green players that
are playing as solid starters. These guys are only a
year or two in the league. These guys can be
blue players in no time if they continue to progress
like they're progressing. The Green Bay Packers are one of
(54:47):
those teams that we can talk about being in the
conversation all the time.
Speaker 2 (54:51):
Okay, one of the teams that I think is have
a big question mark on a big storyline coming into
this year is the New York Jets. I think you
only had eight, am I correct at eight teams? I
think at eight and right the number eight, and according
to your shot, they have five blue Chippers. Aaron Rodgers
obviously blank because he only played what two downs or
(55:11):
whatever it was and he got hurt. But to me, how
do you have the Green Bay Packers at eight and
you have them with five blue Chippers and my Cincinnati
Bengals aren't even in the top eight. I don't understand
how that could be.
Speaker 4 (55:27):
Where the Bengals, I mean the Bengals, the Bengals are
outside of the eight. But like, who are the blue
chick players? So let's just right now randomly talk about
the blue chip player. Jamar Chase Bluto, Joe Burrow, Jamar Chase,
uh T Higgins would be on the line. All right,
so that's maybe three.
Speaker 2 (55:45):
Couldn't say has.
Speaker 4 (55:48):
No player. No, he's that blue chip, he's not blue
we can give I give you Trey Hendrickson. Yes, who else?
That's four? Who else? Okay, they're generous with Higgins.
Speaker 2 (56:00):
Okay, you're right, and he was heard last year too.
But here's the thing. You've had teams with four in
the top eight. So I don't know why they can't
be in the top eight with four because.
Speaker 4 (56:10):
The depth of the rest of the team. So when
I look at the rest of the team, I think
the other guys are better. So we talked about the
Green Bay Packers. A lot of their offensive line is
in green But the Green Bay Packers, some would say,
have a top five offensive line when you rank them
from top to bottom in terms of the depth and
all that other stuff. Cincinnati has issues on their offensive line.
Outside of Trey Hendrickson, who's the established pass rusher up front?
(56:33):
I like Sam Hubbard. I've always been Sam Hubby's biggest fan,
but he's not a blue chip player. So there's not
another partner to go with Trey Henderson. And the secondary
secondary is the great Yeah, who's a great play So
there we are, so we're top heavy. We have those
four players, but the depth of the roster, So what
we're also trying to do is the depth of those
twelve that we're picking out right when we talk about
(56:53):
those key and critical positions, what today look like. So
that's why they failed on the outside.
Speaker 2 (56:59):
Last, but not least, I think you've done a wonderful job.
And I tell you if you, if you're a fan
of the NFL, you really need to go to NFL
dot com, look at the writers and scroll down to
Bucket Brooks. This may be your best work because it
gives it's a thought provocative situation where you look at it.
A lot of work, a lot of time was put
into it. I know you spent you had to spend
a lot of time doing this, and I think it's wonderful.
(57:19):
I'm sure. I'm sure the scouts and coaches around the
league have looked at it as well. Have you gotten
any feedback on this from people?
Speaker 4 (57:27):
No, no, no, no, I haven't paid attention to feedback,
like the thoughts of our own I don't. I don't like,
I haven't got feedback about like whether it's great or not.
I've gotten challenged like you challenged me on your Cincinnati
Bingals not being included in there. But I mean I
kind of I kind of view the Bengals like Skyline Chili.
It's an acquired taste. It's not for everybody. It's an
acquired it's an acquired taste. Lookally, what may be good
(57:50):
for you may not be good for me.
Speaker 2 (57:53):
I hear you, Okay, I mean, and I think you've
done a great job on this. I mean I really
enjoyed looking at it and delving into it, and it's
worth it's worth it to look at it. And really
kind of I'm going to keep this just to see
if the fact that comes No, not to see if
it comes true, because again, I mean, you put yourself
on the line a little bit by doing this, honestly, but.
Speaker 4 (58:14):
It's not it's not just this year, it's the next
it's the next few years, not just this year, not
just this year.
Speaker 2 (58:19):
All right, I hear what you're saying. And what about
the team teams in that division? That division is so tough.
I didn't say the Cleveland Browns worth in there, right,
the Cleveland Browns.
Speaker 4 (58:28):
I mean, let's okay, so let's let's think about it.
We can't put their quarterback as a Blue, but they
do have one of the more talented rosters, right Amari
Cooper could be a Blue, but he's thirty years old.
That's an old player. David n Joku could be up there.
Offensive line is solid. They be kind of litterick Greens.
Defensive line. Miles Garrett would be in that conversation for sure.
Speaker 2 (58:50):
He could be the defensive player of the year.
Speaker 4 (58:51):
You said, yeah, he could be. Denzel Ward, Jeremiah o
su Core Moore could be in that conversation as a Blue.
So they has a players. They had a legitimate argument,
but then their thing hinges on Deshaun Watson. How confident
are we that Deshaun Watson's going to get back to
being the player that he once was in Houston.
Speaker 2 (59:10):
Yeah, we'll get into that too, We really will. All right,
Bucky did a great job. I really think. I mean
it's great going through that stuff. I really enjoy it.

Browns for a second. Let's get into this for a second. Now,
(01:01:05):
the year three of the union between that quarterback Deshaun
Watson and the Cleveland Browns, and a lot of people
even forgot that he's that quarterback. They want to return
their investment, a return of the two hundred and thirty
million dollars they spent in the six draft picks that
gave up for the guy and he started. If you remember,
I think that Deshaun Watson's signing with the Browns started
(01:01:25):
this cash flow of quarterbacks. I'm correct. I think he
was the big one and everybody follow that.
Speaker 4 (01:01:33):
Yeah, he's one of the big ones. And what he
did is he was able to get the fully guaranteed deal,
and by getting the fully guaranteed deal, he pushed up
some of the expectations quarterbacks had, whether it's the cash
outlay that they got early or the number in terms
of the average when he was over the forty million
dollar mark. Yeah, he did a really good job of
pushing the market up. And the market has continued to
go up. As the salary cap has gone up, quarterbacks
(01:01:55):
have gotten a bigger piece of the pie.
Speaker 2 (01:01:57):
Let's see what he's done. Year one. Deshaun Watsons out
of eleven games. He had a suspension for sexual misconduct
when he was at the Texans the final stretch of
twenty twenty two. He was just trying to get back
in shaping at the rust off last fall, had that
shoulder injury, had some surgery. Season was over, and guess what,
Joe Flakall comes out of the comes off his couch
and took him to the playoffs. So now, and you
(01:02:18):
tell me how important coaches are. Ken Dorsey now is
the new offensive coordinator in Cleveland. He comes over from
the Buffalo Bills. Is not going to be a major
difference in the effect of Deshaun Watson's performance this year.
What do we do Because you know, Josh Allen did
pretty well under Dorsey, Ken Watson follow.
Speaker 4 (01:02:35):
That you'd like to think, so, I think it's big
for Kevin Stefanski to step outside of himself. Ken Sevanski
has been a really good play caller. He's been the
offensive coordinator slash head coach since he got there. He's
had a lot of success to step away and allow
someone else to do it. To me, he speaks volumes
about him, but also it speaks to him understanding that
(01:02:57):
his quarterback isn't a great fit for this system that
they were using. So he wanted can Dorsty come in?
Can Dorrissey had had success with Cam Newton, Can Doris
he had worked with Josh Allen, And even though those
guys are terrific athletes and real athletic quarterbacks, Deshaun Watson
is an athletic quarterback, but in a different way. He
doesn't necessarily use his legs as like the primary weapon
(01:03:19):
that he has, even though he's athletic enough to do so.
Ken Dorsey does a really good job of creating offenses.
Taylor made to the quarterback, and he'll make it a
quarterback friendly system. Allow Deshaun Watson to have some ownership
and that hopefully will get him up and go in
and knock off some of the rusts that has really
jumped on his game. This guy was a three time
(01:03:40):
Pro Bowl player and he has not been the same
since he put on that Cleveland Browns uniform.
Speaker 2 (01:03:45):
Yeah, I think the two big story lines in the
NFL this year have to be Aaron Rodgers. Could he
come back to thirty nine and do what he can
do and put this pressure in the jetsament you get
them to the Promised Land. And could Deshaun Watson ever
regain the three time Pro Bowl selection form that he
had early in his career. That let's stick with Deshaun
Watson for a second. He's got some receivers on that team.
The defense is tremendous on the Cleveland Browns. They went
(01:04:06):
postseason last year without him. How difficult is it going
to be for him? And honestly, and I hate to
say this, but there's a factor that maybe people don't
talk about the fact that he's got the money, most
of it's guaranteed. Do you say to yourself. You know,
maybe I don't have to perform. What do I have
to prove? I got the money, Everything is great, your
life is good. People are that way in the working world.
(01:04:28):
You get the money, you kick back and say, you know,
the heck with it. I don't have to bust my
rear end anymore.
Speaker 4 (01:04:34):
Well, I mean, look, the money's a factor in that.
I can't say that he isn't pride forling. That is
kind of changed the way that he approaches the game.
I'll say that maybe bad luck and circumstances, the circumstances
coming over not playing because remember before we got to Cleveland,
he took that entire year off in Houston where he
(01:04:55):
was a disgruntled holdout. They didn't play him, but he
said a whole year. So he went two year without
really playing ball. Then he comes back, he works his
way back into shape last year and he misses. So
Deshaun Watson really hasn't played football in three years. That's man,
that's a lifetime in the National Football League. He's and
dependent upon what is off his rehab schedule and all that.
(01:05:19):
There are a lot of things. That's why he's the
biggest asterisk that we have we don't know what we're
going to get from him because we don't know if
he's fully healthy, and we also don't know if he'll
ever knock off the rust on his game.
Speaker 2 (01:05:29):
Okay, he hasn't played in three years. I asked you
the question, as put your coaches hat on right now.
What is the one thing he's going to be hurting
the most to get back in shape for. Is it
his body? Is it his way? Is it the coordination throwing?
What's the one thing that's going to be the most
important thing to work on?
Speaker 4 (01:05:47):
Rhythm? Just his rhythm as a playmaker and passer. It
was so easy for him when he was in Houston,
whether he was throwing on time or off platform, it
was easy. He just had a natural rhythm and cadence
to the way that his game, his game was. He's
lost some of that, and some of that comes with
the loss of confidence. You begin to overthink it and
instead of just naturally reacting to what happens in front
(01:06:09):
of you, you begin to try and dictate and create
things in your mind. He just has to settle land.
He has to trust the system and trust himself that
he's not only good enough to play at that level,
but that the system is going to enable him to
play at that level. If he does that, he'll have
a better chance of having that kind of success that
we used to see him fromhim.
Speaker 2 (01:06:26):
Okay, I'll put you on the spot right now. Will
he come back? Canny come back? What do you expect
from him this year?
Speaker 4 (01:06:33):
No? I think the Bron's is gonna be good, and
I think he comes back. I think he plays at
a really good has a really good season. He finds
a way to make sure that Amark Cooper is fed,
and then he works off of that in the passing game,
and then it's about them managing the game. The defense
is going to keep him in game and even give
them opportunities to finish games early because the turnovers or
sacks or negative plays. He has to be able to playmaker.
(01:06:55):
He has to be able to make the plays to
close it out.
Speaker 2 (01:06:57):
And does he have a close in his contract not
to get miss anymore?
Speaker 4 (01:07:02):
I don't know. Like only only Ohioans we know get
rubbed out.
Speaker 2 (01:07:08):
Here we go, He's fucking Brooks. I'm ay from Awe
of Fox Sports Sunday on Fox Sports. Ready, now, there's
a major question in the Desert there really is. That's
coming up next line for the tyrack dot Com stud
But first here's Kevin Wyatt.
Speaker 4 (01:07:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (01:07:22):
The Olympics in full swing as the third full day
of action currently going on in Paris, and the United
States already has won a gold medal. It's a big
rivalry between the Americans and the Australians in the swimming pool,
and it is the men taking gold in the four
by one hundred freestyle relaye, beating Australia who finished second
(01:07:45):
and got the silver. Caleb Dressel now tied for third
all time in most gold medals at his eighth career
gold medal, first of these Olympics. Of course, Michael Phelps
far and away with the record at twenty three. Then
you got a few guys tied at nine in Drussel
with eight so while to go to before he catches
on Michael Phelps. But Caleb Drussell off to an outstanding start,
(01:08:08):
as are the American swim team in these twenty twenty
four Olympics. On the women's side of thing, that rivalry
Australia in the United States eating up and it's Australia's
Ari rn Tipmas winning the women's four hundred meter freestyle.
As Katie Ledecci, she does make the podium gets bronze
to add to her illustrious career in basketball. The men's
(01:08:31):
US national team set to get going today against Serbia.
Tipoff set for eleven fifteen Eastern Time. In Major League Baseball,
a couple of trades going down before the trade deadline,
the Yankees getting jash Chisholm Junior from the Marlins in
exchange for three minor league prospects, while the Mets, according
(01:08:52):
to ESPN, finalizing a trade to acquire outfielder Jesse Winker
from the Washington National And as for the action on
the diamond, Aaron Judge cranking his thirty seventh home run
of the season as the Yankees get a win in
Boston in extra innings eleven to eight. The Houston Astros
a race a five run deficit to beat the Dodgers
(01:09:15):
seven to sixth on a ninth inning home run by
Alex Bregman. Showyo Tony did go deep launching that one
in the orbit. It seems like he often does, but man,
this one went well into the upper deck in right
field at Minute Made Park. It was his thirty second
home run. Of the season, the Giant sweeping a doubleheader
against the Rockies four to one in Game one, five
to zero. In Game number two, Blake Snell pitched well
(01:09:37):
enough to get the win, got a no decision instead,
but I'm sure he's incredibly happy with how that game went,
as he got fifteen strikeouts in just six innings of work.
The Padres on a roll. Blake Snell's former team has
now won their seventh game in a row, nine to
four against the Baltimore Orioles, and the Braves snap a
six game losing streak as they shut out the Mets
(01:10:00):
to nothing.
Speaker 2 (01:10:01):
Back to you guys, thanks Keev seeing it nowt now,
things are getting hot. We'll get to that in just
about a minute. He is Bucky Brooks, I'm Andy Furman.
We are Fox Sports Suny on Fox Sport's ready, and
of course big got bona barrow betting coming up about
six seven minutes from now. And let's talk about pressure,
all right, winning and the pressure to win. Now you
played the game, have you seen it on any of
your coaches faces in college or in the pros? Has
(01:10:22):
their attitude change knowing going into a season that if
they don't win there's a good chance they're going to
be gone.
Speaker 4 (01:10:28):
Yeah, I've seen it.
Speaker 2 (01:10:29):
You want to mention any names.
Speaker 4 (01:10:31):
When I was in North Carolina, Mac Brown college Football
Hall of Famer the season before I arrived at Carolina,
he was one in ten my freshman year, he was
one in ten, So two and twenty going into my
sophomore season. I could feel the pressure on him. Everyone
in the program could feel the pressure that he had.
(01:10:51):
You can't survive a two and twenty start these days
in college football, and it's really remarkable that he was
able to survive it then finished going six four and one,
and that was kind of a catalyst that kind of
got the program jump started. But I remember seeing him
having to deal with all that in the offseason the
early part of the season, trying to find a way
(01:11:12):
to win games. Yeah, it can change who you are
and how you go about your business if you are
let it. But the great coaches like coach Brown was,
they just kind of stayed a course. They trust in
what they trust in. They continue to say the same
message to the players each and every every week, and
eventually they turned the corner.
Speaker 2 (01:11:29):
Wow, I look, it's really early. There's no doubt about that,
But there was a handful of coaches in the NFL
that are opening training camp right now on the unbelievable
amount of pressure they really are, and they're teams have
shown some promise, but they fell short. I mean, we're
not talking about teams with losing records, with teams and
expectations that have not met those expectations. And coaches like
Sean McDermott in Buffalo, Nick Sirianni in Philadelphia, Mike McDaniel
(01:11:52):
and Miami, Doug Peterson and Jacksonville, and you're close to
that situation. They really need strong starts this year and
maybe deep playoff fronts as well to convince their ownership
group that, look, you're gonna be back here with us.
So let's talk about the Bills for a second. They
got Josh Allen, and they Josh Allen will always give
him a chance to compete. But who they have else?
(01:12:13):
I mean, right now, I think Stefan is gone and
that that hurts. Stefan Diggs gone as a receiver, and
we'll find out this year. Did Stefan Diggs help make
Josh Allen or is a vice versa? So I'm not
so certain Buffalo's graphing is on the upswing right now.
I think it's on the downswing, and I think right
now mcdermot's in trouble.
Speaker 4 (01:12:36):
I wouldn't say he's in trouble. I would say that
they are the crossroads in terms of where this organization
is going to go. They're nearing the end of the
line or they reached the end of the line with
that current iteration of the team, and now they're having
to rebuild the team but hoping that Josh Allen can
keep them competitive in games and up where maybe they
can go back to the playoffs with a team that's
(01:12:57):
not quite solidified as a championship caliber roster. For him
to do it, it's going to require more, I would
say management from the offense, meaning more twelve personnel, more
draining of the clock, more ball control, more of a
ball control approach than hey, let's go see how much
we can put up. If they do that, they're able
(01:13:19):
to play complimentary football, protect the defense. In those things,
they can still continue to win at a high level.
Mcdermom's a good coach and what he's done is he's
raised the bar in Buffalo and he hasn't been able
to kind of match the expectations that some of the
people have in terms of this team should go to
the super Bowl because of the quarterback that they have
in place. He just has to be patient. He can't
(01:13:41):
deviate from what the plan is. He has to trust
the plan in the process.
Speaker 2 (01:13:44):
All right, Oh see they Okay, let's talk about Nick
Ciani and Philadelphia eliminated by Tampa Bay and the players.
That was bad. That led a lot of air out
of the balloon. And what did he do after they
lost that game? He fired his offensive and defensive coordinators
and they hired what Kellen Moore or who's a pretty
accomplished offensive coordinator. Have Vic Fangio, who doesn't get a
lot of credit, but he's a tremendous defensive coordinator. You
(01:14:07):
know that, right. But the Eagles lost Jason Kelcey. That's
a big loss as well Fletcher Cox, he's gone. I
think the Eagles right now they're not see it in trouble.
But again, there's gonna be some major questions that during
the season with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Speaker 4 (01:14:22):
Yeah, There're gonna be some major questions. And that's okay.
This is a team that is really, really talented and
the questions that they have have little to do with
the scheming and more to do with the chemistry and
the connectivity of their players, and more importantly, the organizational
skills of their coach. Can't he manage and lead like
he should as a as a top leader. This is
a team that has gone to the Super Bowl, but
(01:14:42):
they need their head coach to do it. The big
get for Nick Sirianni is not only killing Moore taking
over the offense, but Vic Fangio coming over on defense.
And the reason why is because Vic Fangio is an
old school coach. The Eagles have been a good team
utilizing a new school approach where maybe they don't hit,
maybe they're practices aren't his physical, They're not doing the
kind of rolling, the running, or the old school stuff
(01:15:05):
that has traditionally been a part of how you build
your team. Well, Vic Fangiel is gonna make them get
back to that. It's gonna make them have some more reps.
He's gonna make them work a little harder, particularly on defense,
to get on track. If that defense gets back to
just being a decent team, much less than an elite unit,
the Eagles gonna make noise and they have a chance
to make noise and the bounce back from Jalen Hurts
(01:15:25):
didn't finish the way that he wanted to, didn't play
at the level that he played at after getting paid.
I think he's gonna be determined to prove people then
they sayers, the skeptics, the critics, prove them wrong. After
having a sub part year for himself.
Speaker 2 (01:15:38):
I'm glad you brought defense because in Miami with the
Miami Doblins, Mike McDaniel, that considered him the offensive wizard.
But now he's on his third defensive coordinator in three years.
So they got some problems there in Miami with the defense,
and that's gonna be a major problem. We'll see what
happens to there with Miami, So McDaniel could be in
trouble and rolling along to your team, Jacksonville, Doug Peterson,
he gave them stability, He's no doubt about that. After
(01:16:00):
Urban Maya got their acts. But last year they started
a maybe mistake. I think they were eight and three
to stop and they finished one and five. That's a problem.
Speaker 4 (01:16:10):
It's a problem, and it's a problem. Everyone's on higher
lot around the organization in the building. They know they
got to perform better. They know they have to get
to the playoffs and find a way to make it
right in terms of make amends for what took place
last year. The way that they've done that is they
wanted to make sure that one of the chemistry in
the locker room is on point. They want to make
sure that the guys that are there, the core guys
(01:16:33):
they pay them. Trevor Lawrence, Josh Einz, Allen Tyson, Campbell
all got paid. They can continue to make sure that
they pay their core guys to keep them around. They
brought in veterans from winning programs to help them go
to the next level. Eric Armstead, Mitch Morris, Ron Darby,
those guys coming over to look bring that winning pedigree,
(01:16:53):
that experience helping this team play in those I will say,
those big money, those big games, those must win games
down the stretch. They need some guys who have some
experience and the expertise that they can share to help
them win those games. And then, finally, like man putting
a lot on number sixteen, Trevor Lawrence. He was paid
in the offseason. There's expectation that he's gonna play at
(01:17:15):
a top ten level. Maybe top five level. He has
to perform and now that he has the bag, he
has everything. He should be comfortable. Now it's on him
to take his game to the next level. They did
a really good job of kind of rearranging the furniture
in the wide receiver room to give him the kind
of weapons that suit his skill set. But really, at
the end of the day, when he gets the ball
(01:17:35):
and they hand the ball at number sixteen, he has
to find a way to win by enemies.
Speaker 2 (01:17:39):
Necessary sounds great. Bucky Brooks, Andy Furman, Fox Sports on

Speaker 2 (01:18:21):
What does that mean? Actually? I won't period, Actually.
Speaker 11 (01:18:24):
You actually want it's a miracle.
Speaker 2 (01:18:26):
I've heard it's like a luckily clips happen, you know
what I mean? Whoa?
Speaker 11 (01:18:29):
All right, it's a miracle.
Speaker 2 (01:18:30):
Let's keep it going.
Speaker 3 (01:18:31):
Take that.
Speaker 12 (01:18:32):
Bucky Brooks sixty six fifty one is a four as
of now.
Speaker 11 (01:18:36):
So Andy, you might come back.
Speaker 2 (01:18:38):
I don't know, but I will come back, all right.
Speaker 11 (01:18:40):
So we're gonna start with cricket.
Speaker 12 (01:18:41):
We got the Manchester Originals at plus one twenty versus
Trent Rockets at minus one fifty five.
Speaker 11 (01:18:47):
Andy, who you.
Speaker 2 (01:18:48):
Got Trent Williams Rockets? I like Trent. Wow?
Speaker 4 (01:18:51):
Okay, there you go, Wow, Okay give Manchester? Right?
Speaker 11 (01:18:55):
All right, yep, exactly. So then we're going to head
over to bl loser. Oh wow.
Speaker 12 (01:18:59):
Boxing heavyweight Jared Anderson at minus one eighty five versus
Martin Bokola Alunga at plus one forty Bucky Ooh, let's
go Jared Anderson.
Speaker 2 (01:19:11):
Nuts. I got to pronounce this guy's name. I can't
even spell. It looks like an echot. I mean really,
I'll tell you what's his name again?
Speaker 11 (01:19:17):
Got Bicola Alunga.
Speaker 2 (01:19:19):
I'll just say Martin.
Speaker 11 (01:19:20):
You got the Marten's fine, Okay.
Speaker 12 (01:19:22):
Then we're gonna head over to the National Rugby League
the Canterbury Bulldogs at minus two ten versus the Canberra
Raiders at plus one seven and the Bear can't.
Speaker 2 (01:19:32):
I don't even know what the I don't care about.
The Canterbury is my hometown at Canterbury.
Speaker 11 (01:19:37):
That means something. Then you get with the Bulldogs, Bucky, Yeah, I.
Speaker 4 (01:19:41):
Take the Bulldogs and Bulldogs.
Speaker 12 (01:19:42):
Of another loser, and then we're gonna head over to
the down down Under the Australian Football League, North Melbourne
at minus one fifty five versus the Richmond Tigers at
plus one twenty.
Speaker 4 (01:19:55):
Bucky, got oh, North Melbourne. I'm Milbourne born.
Speaker 2 (01:19:58):
I'm so happy. I am so happy, you said, because
I used to be a part owner of the Richmond
Roosters in Richmond and Diana baseball, Richmond Rooster, Richmond Roosters
in the Frontier League baseball. So I got the Richmond Roosters.
Speaker 11 (01:20:11):
Totally meant to be right there, right right.
Speaker 2 (01:20:14):
Fate is fate.
Speaker 11 (01:20:15):
I totally believe in fate.
Speaker 12 (01:20:16):
Okay, so you're going down. So they're gonna end with
the Big three basketball. I got the Vla at plus
one versus laf Amelia at minus one ninety.
Speaker 2 (01:20:31):
Who's up, Bucky?
Speaker 4 (01:20:33):
Ooh that familiar family. Family's everything.

Speaker 2 (01:20:40):
Thanks you guys, the Villa Villa. Get it right.
Speaker 11 (01:20:44):
I'm so sorry. I'm okay. Yes, luck to both of you.
Speaker 2 (01:20:49):
Truly, No, you don't really mean that, because the way
you said that I won, like you know, like like
it was like lightning strike, like it doesn't really happen.
Speaker 11 (01:20:57):
I'm just reading the scores like you.
Speaker 1 (01:20:59):
Were, like you not.
Speaker 2 (01:21:00):
No, you're editorializing. You're supposed to be impartial.
Speaker 11 (01:21:04):
No, no, I'm not Switzerland.
Speaker 12 (01:21:05):
I never I didn't walk in here being all neutral
like no, oh really no, what do.
Speaker 2 (01:21:10):
You mean if someone told you not to be neutral?
Is that it?
Speaker 11 (01:21:13):
Nobody told me to do anything. I'm just me.
Speaker 2 (01:21:16):
I don't get I don't understand.
Speaker 12 (01:21:18):
That's of luck in all honesty and like genuinity, best
of luck to both of you.
Speaker 2 (01:21:25):
Bucky. Do you believe that she said that? I mean
you believe it. I don't believe it.
Speaker 4 (01:21:28):
Oh no.
Speaker 2 (01:21:29):
To me, she's a female version of Lincoln Riley. That's
what she is. WHOA, yes, wyow And I'm honest that
I speak from the hip, That's what I do.
Speaker 3 (01:21:40):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (01:21:40):
Hey, one quarterback was talking? What was he saying?
Speaker 4 (01:21:43):
That? More?
Speaker 2 (01:21:44):
Next on Fox Sports Sunday, say do.
Speaker 1 (01:21:47):

Speaker 4 (01:22:22):
I'm good Andy. How's everything?
Speaker 2 (01:22:24):
Everything is great because you got the Olympics going on
right now. People think it's a slow time in sports.
The Olympics are great. They really are. What events do
you particularly like to watch in the Olympics? And to
be honest, with you, I like the Summer Olympics better
than the Winter Olympics.
Speaker 4 (01:22:39):
I am like you, I like the summer Summer Olympics
better than the Winter Olympics. I'm part of the track
in basketball obviously, more recently have started paying attention to
gymnastics after watching the Simone Boos story on Netflix. That's
kind of got me captivated, so I check.
Speaker 2 (01:22:54):
I had no idea she was adopted. I watched that too.
Speaker 4 (01:22:57):
Yeah that's crazy, Like yeah, like that that was that
was a surprise of revelation for me in watching that,
and then I'm not gonna lie. The water polo has
been something that I'm still trying to figure out. Like
I still don't understand how they're able to do what
they do in the water without being able to stand
or touch the bottom. It's kind of crazy to me.
Speaker 2 (01:23:15):
Yeah, yeah, I watched the Decrease team play the US
just at the US being like fifteenth to five something
like that, and honestly, they had the camera underwater and
like some of these women were like holding them on
the water. I mean, really and truly, I mean I
don't understand how you set up plays in water polo.
As a matter of fact, I don't understand how you
(01:23:35):
set up places in rugby. You just run and you
kick and throw whatever you gotta do, and you beat
the living heck out of your opponent. But I don't
understand in a coaching scenario, how do you set up
a play in water polo. I mean you come in there,
you kind of swim around, you look for an open shot,
you're fake, you throw it and you try to hopefully
get it past the goalkeeper. That's what you do. I mean,
(01:23:56):
that's it.
Speaker 4 (01:23:58):
Yeah, I mean you do some of those things. To me,
it reminds me a lot like soccer in terms of
some of the plays. Rugby was fascinating and have an
opportunity to watch that for a little bit. You mentioned
it early, Fiji going down to France.
Speaker 2 (01:24:10):
Yeah, and they're the defunding goal of four years ago
Fiji won the gold.
Speaker 4 (01:24:14):
Yeah. I think maybe they back to back defending camps
and then they go down. But uh, that sport is fascinating,
very physical, a lot like football, a lot of options
and people running around, but great appreciation for what we saw.
I think that's the thing about the Olympics. It gives
an opportunity to appreciate sports that you normally wouldn't follow
or that you know, they kind of off the grid,
off the radar for you. But now you get a
(01:24:35):
chance to see him and watch them because they're on
every platform, in every outlet and you can see everything.
Speaker 2 (01:24:41):
And more than that, I think it's just more than sports.
But they got the synchronized swimming. I'm not so certain
that's a sport. They got surfing. I mean, you name it,
they got it. I mean, I guarantee you. But the
next Olympics still have cornhole? Really cornhole will pick?
Speaker 4 (01:24:55):
Why not? Why not? Why not yelling hole? You have
something against cornhole? You don't like cornhole?
Speaker 2 (01:24:59):
No, no, no, no, not at all. But I will
say this, and it kind of is a question that
keeps on revolving in my head. I don't understand why
countries can go to war and then when the Olympics
cover everybody's hand in hand playing and competing one another.
I think the Olympics are beautiful. But then in the
Olympics are over that this hate and this war. It
just it doesn't make any sense to me really, but
(01:25:21):
that's the way it is, right, Nah.
Speaker 4 (01:25:24):
Yeah, it is one of those things like in terms
of everything being divided, but then sports competition can bring
everybody together. So it's all those things that you hope
on a bigger scale that people would take lessons from that.
But we'll see, we'll see if people can kind of
understand the meaning behind some of the themes and the
narratives around the Olympic Games.
Speaker 2 (01:25:41):
Yeah, I know, I was a little worried. I was
a little concerned that our guy from Kansas City did
not come in yet today. But here he is. Steve
from Kansas City wants to talk to Bucket Brooks. Hello, Steve,
what's going on?
Speaker 6 (01:25:53):
Oh?
Speaker 10 (01:25:53):
Man, I'm here. I was watching South Sudan versus Puerto
Rico at four am.
Speaker 5 (01:25:58):
Man, this this this.
Speaker 10 (01:26:01):
This basketball thing. Man, it's on all day. I've been
I've been enjoying it quite a bit. But I tell
you what, I think we're in deep, deep trouble against
Serbia in about a couple of hours. I just don't
I don't have a good feeling about this at all.
Watching I've watched the other teams and it looks like.
Speaker 2 (01:26:22):
Today too. Francis good.
Speaker 10 (01:26:25):
It seems to me that what they're doing is they're
they're taking our weakness, which is big man and.
Speaker 5 (01:26:31):
They're loading it. They're loading up against against our weakness
and and it's going to be I mean, we saw
in the exhibition with Sasudan and there very talented players.
Speaker 10 (01:26:43):
They're big, especially but Joel Embiid and time.
Speaker 2 (01:26:47):
Why is Joel Embiid starting with Lebron They both should
not be playing at the same time, and the one
who shouldn't be playing is Joel Embiid. Give them a
ticket to cup back to the States.
Speaker 10 (01:26:57):
It gets it gets worse because both Anthony Davis and
Joe Llenbiid are supposedly ill after the ceremony where it
was cold and rain the opening ceremony was cold and rainy,
So we I don't know what man out of bio
is our center now, I don't know, but this is
the Serbia big Man may have like fifty points in
(01:27:18):
this game. I'm not I'm not saying that that this
is intel that you should been on or anything, but
listen for the USA perspective. We have got to get
We have got to get some guys, younger guys that
are that are stronger. You know, we had a forty
year old man dailing as that of exhibition. I mean
(01:27:39):
it's time for the generations to change. I mean it's great,
it's a great time a minute.
Speaker 2 (01:27:45):
Yeah, forget about the age. But Lebron right now is
the best player in that team and they know it,
right Buck, I mean, Lebron James is the man and
if they're gonna win, they're gonna put it on his shoulder.
He's the guy.
Speaker 4 (01:27:58):
Yeah, I mean he continues to be the guy. He look,
he's a marvel. Yeah, I agree, he's the best player.
Speaker 2 (01:28:07):
Right, Steve, don't worry about it, go back and watch it.
Let's let's continue, all right. Because he's worried. I'm not worried.
I think the US if A will win, they'll win
the goal and they will and honestly, if they don't,
there are a lot of pressure on Steve Kerr. I mean, honestly,
he came out the other day chastising the team they
got to play more intensity. Come on, you're the coach,
you know, don't tell me they got to play with
(01:28:29):
more Tell them. I don't want to hear that from
a coach, right, I mean, I'm not saying he's not
the right guy, but still, if they don't win, it's
gonna be all on him, They really will.
Speaker 4 (01:28:39):
Yeah, it will be on him because there there'd be
some questions like obviously the Jalen Brown thing tould come up,
some of the rotation things will come up, just how
he approached it, the fact that they struggled and maybe
they were not prepared for South Sudan and some of
the other teams. Yeah, like, there would definitely be some
questions that come up that he'll have to answer.
Speaker 2 (01:29:00):
And I never was a big Steve Kurr fan when
he several years ago agreed to coach the New York
Knicks and backed out at the eleventh hour to go
to Golden State. You know, that's a very similar situation
like when Kevin Durant jumps Oklahoma City to go to
Golden State to get a ring. I mean, come on,
you made a commitment. You made a commitment to coach
the Knicks. Stay with the Knicks, all right, But they
got coach Tis Tibbs has done a good job and
(01:29:21):
they gave him a new contract. So he's done a
real good job with the New York Knicks. So we
got TIBs there, you go. Now, let's talk about New York, right.
Don't you think Timms did a good job. I think
he did. Did.
Speaker 4 (01:29:31):
I was trying to figure out why you're mad at Tibbs.
Speaker 2 (01:29:32):
You don't like to No, I love Tibbs. I do
a good defensive coach too. But let's stick with New
York Sports. Was said, let's talk about Aaron Rodgers. Aaron
Rodgers came out the other day at a news conference
and he said a training camp that the current squad
that he has has Super Bowl aspirations that perhaps, you know,
if he's healthy, they got top five defense. I think
they could. But he says the beauties that every single
(01:29:53):
year get this this eight to twelve teams, eight to
twelve teams that could actually do and go to the
Super Bowl. And he says he's one of twelve. Don't
think so. And if you don't believe me, let's take
a listen. Go ahead, Aaron, let me hear it from
your mouth.
Speaker 4 (01:30:05):
It has to be the goal. I mean, the beauty
is every single year there's eight to twelve teams, maybe
probably less, but eight to twelve teams that could actually
do it. And we're one of those eight to twelve.
Speaker 2 (01:30:16):
Wait a minute, I defer to Bucket Brooks, who's the
football man here? Not Aaron Rodgers. Are there eight to
twelve teams honestly going into this season that could really
vie for the Super Bowl? I don't think so.
Speaker 4 (01:30:28):
No, I actually agree with him. Everybody's not a super
Bowl team. I think it's only a handful of teams
to have legitimate opportunities to go to the super Bowl,
and those top eight, maybe the top twelve, but normally
it's eight that really have the pieces in place to
be able to get it done. They are one of
the teams. You know, they were in my grade eight.
We talked about the championship window and a lot of
(01:30:49):
it hinges, not even necessarily on Aaron Rodgers, because I
think they're good enough to buy for it without him
playing at MVP level. If he just is solid and
comes back, and they play well on defense, and Breezehall
and Garrett Wilson are big time contributors, this team is
good enough to be able to get it done. The
AFC East is wide open. They can win the division.
(01:31:10):
They win the division, they put some one step closer
to being able to get to the Final four. So
I think it is doable. It's just a matter of
is Robert Salah has he grown enough as a head
coach to be able to lead this team to that level.
Speaker 2 (01:31:24):
I'm glad you brought that up, because we talked about
coaches on the hot seat. I wouldn't even mention his name.
I gotta believe he is, don't you think.
Speaker 4 (01:31:30):
Yeah, he has to be in that com I mean
he has to be on the hot seat. I mean
they've been very very patient with Robert sala As. He's
trying to work out and learn how to be a
head coach and those things. But at some point the
results have to show up, and the results haven't shown
up today. They need to win. They need to win.
There needs to be an urgency about what they're doing.
They got to find a way to get this done.
Speaker 2 (01:31:52):
Okay. Aaron Rodgers says, eight to twelve teams. I'm going
to give you eight teams right now, and you tell
me if I'm in the ballpark. Was you know what?
When he initially said that, I say, you know what,
I think he's crazy, but no what he might be right.
He might be right. Okay, let's put the Jets in there,
and you say the Jets. I think the Jets with
their defense, if he stays healthy, their defense could carry
them and offensively, I think they could get it done.
(01:32:13):
You agree, right, they could do that, all right? So
these are the teams that I have. The Jets are one,
Baltimore's two, all right, Cleveland Brown's three, Dallas Cowboys four,
Eagles five, forty nine Ers six, and the Lions is seven.
All right? You want to put Buffalo win there to
(01:32:34):
make them.
Speaker 4 (01:32:34):
Eight, don't. I don't see Buffalo as a super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (01:32:38):
Team, all right? Do you We've got didn't even put
Kansas City in there. I'm sorry, Kansas City. Kansas City
is eight.
Speaker 4 (01:32:45):
Kansas City?
Speaker 2 (01:32:47):
What about not the Rams? You got the Rams in there?
Speaker 4 (01:32:49):
No Rams in there?
Speaker 2 (01:32:52):
Okay, So he's right, there are package maybe the packers.
Speaker 4 (01:32:55):
Packers, but like but like in saying that, he's not
seeing that there's some that can emerge. But he's right
about eight, eight to twelve. There's some great mattering there.
Because you talk about Cleveland, you could talk about the Rams.
I mean, we can talk about some of those teams
that could kind of vault up into that discussion. So
he's not wrong when he says.
Speaker 2 (01:33:15):
That, Okay, let's talk about that. Jess for cistick with them.
Because if he's healthy with their defense, and the defense
might be one of the best international football league, do
you agree. I think they might be wide receivers, that's
a question. They got a rookie, but in McCauley, he's
got to be the guy.
Speaker 4 (01:33:31):
I think.
Speaker 2 (01:33:31):
With Mike Williams, yeah, I mean and Mike Williams. Other
than that, I mean, we don't know about these guys.
They're not tested.
Speaker 4 (01:33:39):
No, I mean, Mike Williams is solid, Gary Wilson is good.
Mike Williams coming off to injury, so you wonder what
you can get in him. You got older guys that
are question marks on the outside, Morgan Moses and Tyron
Smith and those guys. But you're still willing to say
that man. Defensively, all those guys are in the blue.
Quinn Williams, Quincy Wiylliams, Sauce Gardner, elite players. They have
(01:34:05):
players that can win and can get this thing done
at a high level. It's just a matter how well
they play and how well does Aaron Rodgers get this
offense to play, because the weakness would be the offense,
and particularly like Kennathaniel Hackett, put this offense in a
situation where they have success.
Speaker 2 (01:34:22):
That's okay.
Speaker 4 (01:34:22):
Here's the to determine where they do it.
Speaker 2 (01:34:24):
They're in the AFC East. I'm going to go on
record right now. I don't make a lot of predictions yet,
but I'm gonna say right now they're gonna win the
AFC East. And I'll say that the Jets will probably
win twelve games, followed by the Bills, the Dolphins I
put in third, and the Patriots obviously will pick up
the rear. Do you like that Jets, Bills, Dolphins, and
Patriots in the AFC East.
Speaker 4 (01:34:47):
Jets, Bills, Wow, Dolphins third?
Speaker 2 (01:34:50):
Oh yeah, Okay, yeah, I don't like the Dolphins. Dolphins.
Speaker 4 (01:34:54):
Get a lot of love for the Bills. Get a
lot of love and faith for the Bills. I appreciate
the conviction. A lot of love and faith for the Bills.
Speaker 2 (01:35:00):
Okay. And here's the problem with the Jets if they
do have a problem, certainly told about the Aaron Rodgers situation.
I look at the schedule, and why do I say
that they got six games that are in primetime. I
think that's a big deal. I think that football players
are creatures of habit. They play one o'clock Eastern on Sundays,
and when that things moved around and juggled around, it
creates a problem. It creates a problem practice time. It
(01:35:22):
just creates a lot of problems. You were there, You've
been there, done that. And they also have a date
with the Minnesota Vikings. I think they play that game
in Europe. That's a problem too, to travel things like
that when you go off the regular schedule. I think
that's a problem.
Speaker 4 (01:35:35):
Agreed, No, I don't think he's a problem. I think
the primetime games are what everyone wants. You want primetime
games because you want to be seen. You want to
be seen by everybody. You want to have an opportunity
to world to see you. That's how you get your
Pro Bowl, honors, your accolades in those things. So that
part is not a problem. London can be a problem
depending on how you how you how you fly over there,
(01:35:56):
when you go, how you handle it those things. But
you know, the bigger problem is the execution between the lines.
So before we can talk about the other stuff is
are they good enough to execute those things between the lines?
Do they have enough talent to be able to scare
you on the outside? Lost Stefon Diggs didn't replace him,
lost Gabe Davis didn't really what they got a hodgepodgy.
(01:36:18):
Guys up there trying out right now. But it's different, different, okay.
Speaker 2 (01:36:24):
And you you kind of raised your eyebrows a little
bit when I said doblins at third and eight and nine.
And I say that why because the late Paul Brown
always said the game is a one or lost in
the trenches. That's what he said that. It's changed now.
It's all about quarterback, I know. But the quarterback to
me is only as good as his offensive line that
could protect them. All right, And let's see what happened
now in Miami. Robert Hunt guard, he's gone, Christian Wilkins
(01:36:48):
defensive tackle, he's gone, Connor Williams center, he's gone. These
guys are gone. And I think, you know, it's kind
of like a chain. You lose one, it kind of
rebounds for the rest of them on that line. The
line is like a unit of one. It's like a glove,
you know, like dominoes. One goes down, the rest of
them go down. I think there's a major problem with
(01:37:08):
the line factor in Miami. That's gonna hurt him. You know,
two is great, he's a great quarterback. I think he's
a really good quarterback. They sign the big money, but
you don't have that line help. You're in trouble and
they don't have it in Miami anymore.
Speaker 4 (01:37:20):
Gone, No, I mean, I mean they're kind of hollow,
you know. I'm saying they're built like a donut. They're
really good on the perimeter, but there's holes in the middle,
not only in the old line, but you can say
on the D line. They got two guys coming off
Andrew Jalen Phillips and Bradley Chubb. You're missing Christian Wilkins
because you let him walk out the door. Obviously, you
can score on anybody, but defensive, we don't know if
you're good enough to stop anybody. And Anthony Weaver a
(01:37:42):
new defensive coordinator. Guy comes from the front, not the back.
Does he have the ability to tie the pressure with
the coverage? That's also gonna be critical.
Speaker 2 (01:37:52):
I agree with you there, all right, So we move
on because we're gonna take some calls. We'll take the Twitter.
The X Factor will do that as well the Bucky Brooks.

posted right after week Get off the air, now, this
is interesting, Bucky Brooks. I did a little ho work
too like you did, not the color coding like you did.
But I'm not as smart as you. But only four
(01:40:06):
times in the last twenty five years has a quarterback
not won the league's MVP. All right, there have been
thirty three Super Bowl MVPs at quarterback, with their next
closest position group being wide receivers at eight. All right,
And you know as well as I do, quarterbacks get
all the attention to get most of the money a
team has made up much more than what happens at quarterback,
(01:40:30):
all right? Which non quarterbacks are the MVPs for their
respective NFL teams this coming year? All right? So we're
gonna do a little quiz. I got my little chart,
and you can help me if I'm way off base.
Are you ready? I kind of got them going here,
maybe at an alphabetical order to keep it fair. So
I'm gonna start off with the Arizona Cardinals and my
(01:40:51):
MVP non quarterback MVPs. Are you ready? Mine is their
draft pick Marvin Harrison Junior. Because if the Cardinals are
gonna make them it all and a lot of people
think they will with Kyler Murray maybe coming back being healthy,
it's got to be at the offensive side of the ball.
With Marvin Irrison Junior, I think he's going to be
the guy.
Speaker 4 (01:41:10):
Yeah, I'm with you on that. Marvin Edison Junior plays
a big role in that I kind of have compared
him to Larry Fitzgerald in terms of his potential impact
and how he's going to get this team up and going.
He's a true number one. He can do all the
things that you need. And more funly, he gives Calla
Murray a legitimate target to be able to throw two
on the perimeter. So for that, yeah, I'm with you
(01:41:32):
on that, Envy.
Speaker 2 (01:41:33):
Wow. All right, well one for one, we move along.
Speaker 1 (01:41:36):
Now.
Speaker 2 (01:41:36):
I guess next will be the Atlanta Falcons, and I
think I'm gonna go And this was tough because it's
not much to deal with there. I'm gonna go with
Drake London, the wide receiver, because he was the leading
receiver since he was drafted back in twenty twenty two,
and he's drafted eighth overall. And I give him a
lot of credit because he was playing with Marcus Mariota,
(01:41:56):
Desmond Ritter, and Taylor Heineke at quarterback. So to be
the receiver with even rotating quarterbacks, that's a big deal.
He never got a thousand yards, but I still think
he might be their MVP, non quarterback MVP Drake Luden.
Speaker 4 (01:42:11):
I'm John Robinson running back. John Robinson gets it done.
It goes through him. Look for him to be kind
of like their version of Sakwon Barkley. A guy that
can be a run and receiver can do it all.
To me, he has more touches, which gives him an
opportunity to have a greater impact on the offense's b
John Robinson for me.
Speaker 2 (01:42:31):
All right, so I one on one right now going
to Bolton out with the Baltimore Ravens, and this is
this is kind of like I'm thinking with my heart,
not with my head, because I love this guy, I
love watching him plays a throwback. I'm going with Derek
Henry the running back as the MVP non quarterback. And
then one of the reasons being because I think when
you look at the Baltimore Ravens, they never had a
running back like Derek Henry before. If he's a punishing
(01:42:52):
running back, I'm gonna go with Derek Henry tight end right,
the tight end.
Speaker 4 (01:42:59):
Yeah, I mean, look, Derek Carry is a good one
because down the stretch I could see them leaning on him.
Mark Andrews to me, ends up being at the MVP
because when you look at the numbers with him without him,
he does have a great impact on Lamar Jackson. Lamar
Jackson likes to work the middle of the field. So
let's go with Mark Andrews.
Speaker 2 (01:43:14):
All right, Yeah, you know why, You're probably right. I
just like Derrick Henry though, and I hope he does well.
I really do. I don't think you think they're gonna
give it twenty five to thirty carries a game. I
don't know.
Speaker 4 (01:43:25):
Yeah, I don't know. I think, if anything, I think
later in the year he may get that early in the year.
Speaker 2 (01:43:30):
I think they're preserve them all right now Buffalo Bills,
I mean the non quarterback MVP. I think on the go,
on the defensive side of the ball, they'll linebacker Terrell Bernard.
And why do I say him? He started as a rookie,
he led the Bills his second year. He had some
like one hundred and forty plus tackles, had a couple
(01:43:52):
of interceptions, a couple of fumble recoveries. I just think
that on the defensive we don't talk about much about
the defensive start of the ball in Buffalo really, so
all about Josh Allen and the loss of Stefan Diggs.
I'm gonna go with Bernard at the linebacker position.
Speaker 4 (01:44:07):
Man. That's that's that's interesting. I can go with that,
like I'll go sign because they kind of have some
non descriptive players. So I'll go.
Speaker 2 (01:44:17):
With that, right not there, Okay, Uh, Carolina is really
difficult because they're terrible. Let me be just a bad
football team. But I may have to go back on
defense again. And uh, here's a guy who had one
hundred plus tackles last year, the defensive end, Derek Brown.
I'm gonna go with him. Uh. He was on the
(01:44:39):
Pro Bowl for a bad team. That's a pretty good deal.
So I got with Derek Brown on defense with the
Carolina Panthers.
Speaker 4 (01:44:47):
Who interesting, I'm gonna go offensively. Let's go Deontay Johnson.
And Deontay Johnson because he has to look he holds
the key to unlocking Bryce Young, number one receiver in Carolina.
He has to be able to get open and win
consistently gets man coverage. If he does that, Bryce, So
Bryce Shon is gonna look like a much different quarterback.
I think people forget because we don't talk about Bryce
(01:45:08):
shawp Brycihan was number one overall pick and we have
just completely put him out of our community bank. This
is the opportunity for us to kind of have a
reminder say, oh no, no, I'm here. I'm number one.
I was number one for a reason. Deontay Johnson is
gonna have to help him show that.
Speaker 2 (01:45:23):
Okay, I'm going to tell you this right now. I
raise my hand. I admit this. I can't pick an
MVP non quarterback on the Chicago Bears. I can't. So
I need your help. But I just can't. I look
at the roster going up and down. I just cannot
decide who to pick. Who might be their MVP on
(01:45:43):
the defensive side of the ball. You got anybody, I'll
do one more look at the roster. I knew could
you could give me your pick, but I just can't
pick of anybody. I just can't.
Speaker 4 (01:45:55):
Who are your candidates? Let's talk.
Speaker 2 (01:45:56):
Let's talk through Montese the defensive end. Monteset. Yeah, but
why one of the reasons I picked him? You know why,
he's the highest player on the team, highest paid player.
Other than that, I mean, I just and he led
the Bears with six sacks. But other than that, I
just don't have an MVP.
Speaker 4 (01:46:17):
All right, So all right, J Moore, J Moore, I mean,
so it's funny because DJ Moore is it is it
Keenan Allen. Who are those guys that can do it? No,
it probably has to be someone defense. Let's go here,
Let's go to Real Edmonds linebacker, Mike linebacker, because the
defense has to play at that level almost like they
(01:46:37):
played when Levey Smith was there. Uh And when you
think about those linebacker cors, it was er Locker and
got Lance Briggs somewhere in the middle controlling it. Well,
Teryl Lemons is going to play the role of er
Locker and if he does his job controlled in the
middle of the field while they're playing that Tampa two,
they can be really really good. And ibra Flus got
this team up and going last year. So yeah, let's
(01:47:00):
go to the Roumans.
Speaker 2 (01:47:01):
All right, We're going to continue this and because I
think it's pretty good, because if it's a challenge on that,
it's really easy to say the best quarterbacks in the
top ten list with quarterbacks and things like that, let's
see really who in fact the MVPs are on various teams,
and honestly, the Browns, Cowboys and forty nine is they're
really easy picks. That's coming up next live for the
tiraq dot Com studios. But first Kevin Wirt, He's an
(01:47:24):
MVP right here with the sports well.
Speaker 8 (01:47:26):
Simone Bile is certainly the MVP of the women's gymnastics team,
not just this Olympics, but basically for her whole career
and the greatest gymnast of all time now going to
have a chance to add to her legacy. She is
officially qualified for the individual all round final in the
gymnastics competition. The last all round champion, Sony Lee, has
(01:47:47):
also qualified for the individual finals, so both of them
will be representing the United States trying to win gold
and as a team the United States qualifying for the
all round finals. So the United States women's gymnastics team
continuing to impress here in these twenty twenty four Olympics.
Big rivalry in the swimming pool between the United States
(01:48:10):
and Australia. The men take gold for the United States
in the four by one hundred freestyle relay, Caleb Dreussel
anchoring that team as he gives the Americans gold and
gets himself his eighth career gold medal that is third
all time. But he's got a quiet way to go
to catch up to Michael Phelps, as he's got twenty three,
and then a few guys tied at nine in second place,
(01:48:31):
and then uh Dressel there in third. On the women's
side of things, ari Arna tip miss proving her dominance
in the women's four hundred meter freestyle. She beats out
Katie Ledecci, who took braunze, so she had store legacy
by making the podium. In a basketball the men's team
(01:48:52):
for the United States going to be an action this morning.
It's coming up at eleven fifteen Eastern time and they
will be face seeing Serbia. Canada women's soccer coach Bev
Priests been suspended for a year. They were caught using
drones this week in Paris and not a raised suspicion
and eventually found out that Canada has been doing that,
(01:49:16):
not just in the Olympics, but had been doing so
in recent years, so that got Bev Priests been suspended
for a year. The Canadian team has been knocked back
six points or excuse me negative yeah, has been knocked
back six points in the standings to be negative three now,
which means they had to sweep the tournament or sweep
the first the round robin play in order to advance
(01:49:36):
to the metal round. But they have Colombian France to
get through, So not looking good for the Canadians and
an ESPN report saying that there's a long pattern of
circumstances involving Canadian teams attempting to view other teams close practices.
According to the United States Soccer Federation, they believe that
the Americans were targets at times for that, so a
(01:49:56):
lot more to develop here in this situation and involving
the Canadian Soccer organization. In Major League Baseball, the Marlins
receiving three prospects as they're sending Jazz Chisholm to the
New York Yankee, so New York bolstering their lineup before
the trade deadline, the Mets, according to ESPN, finalizing a
(01:50:17):
trade to acquire Jesse Winker from the Washington Nationals. And
as for the action on the Diamond, Aaron Judge with
his thirty seventh home run, Yankees won it in extras
against the Red Sox eleven to eight. Dodgers blow a
five run lead as the Astros win it on an
Alex Bregman home run. Showio Toni did go deep launch
in that one deep into the second deck at a
(01:50:38):
minute made Park, but was not enough, as the Dodgers
end up losing the Giants a doubleheader win against the
Rockies four to one in five to zero games one
and two, respectively. Blake Snell he didn't pick up the victory,
but fifteen strikeouts in six innings, so he certainly pitched
well enough to get the victory. Padres seven games in
a row now they've won, including a nine to four
win at the Baltimore Orioles and the Brave snapping their
(01:51:01):
six game skid as they shout out the Mats for nothing.
Speaker 2 (01:51:04):
Back to you guys, all right, thanks keV, have a
great day now. The picks on these teams are very easy.
That's right around the corner. He's Bucky Brooks and Andy Furman.
We are Fox Sports Sunday at Fox Sports Radio. The
Blame Game in about seven minutes from now, we'll say
seven minutes from now, the Blame Game. And continuing, I've
said the picks on these teams that Browns, Cowboys and
forty nine Ers will get to them momentarily. But right now,
(01:51:25):
my Cincinnati Bengals, I'm on the band I'm a Bandwagon fan.
When they were losing and the decade of the nineties.
They were terrible. They were I would rip them up
and down. I'd kill them. Now I'm a fan, That's
the way I am. I'm a bandwagon kind of guy, really,
And I think the non quarterback MVP has got to
be Jamar Chase, three time Pro Bowler, Offensive Rookie of
(01:51:48):
the Year, and I gotta believe. And maybe I'm wrong,
maybe you heard something about this. I think that the
fact that he played at LSU, where Joe Burrow was
at I think Joe Burrow had a lot of influence
in the in the Bengals drafting him.
Speaker 4 (01:51:59):
What do you think, Yeah, they certainly had a lot
of influence Joe. Look, you always want the quarterback to
have what he needs. And if Joe Burrow signs off
on someone, then you certainly take a look at it
has to fit within the value and all those other things.
But yeah, Joe, I would expect him, as a big
money player to carry some sway in that office.
Speaker 2 (01:52:21):
And you like, Jamar Chase is the MVP non quarterback?
Speaker 4 (01:52:25):
Well, yeah, because he's a big part of what they do.
He's the centerpiece, he's the number one receiver. And even
though they were reluctant to pay t Higgins. You can't
do that with Jamar Chase. De mar Chase is a
different breed. We see the explosives, we see the side,
We see how he works and how he makes the
game so much easier for Joe Burrow. If Joe Burrow says, hey, man,
I need my number one here, then you gotta pay him.
Speaker 2 (01:52:47):
And I would say this, I think that that the
Bengals will be winning games by just outscoring their opponent.
The defense is not going to be top notch defense.
They're gould win games like you know, thirty five thirty
one this year just to score more points than the opposition.
Speaker 4 (01:53:02):
I mean, there's a lot of pressure on Joe Burrow
to be very efficient, to be on top of his
game and that stuff. But look, I understand where you're
coming from, because that's a very real possibility. They're going
to need him to play at a high level and
he has to give them that kind of performance. I mean,
they're paying him big money for that. And with the
(01:53:22):
receiver in the fold, Jamar Chase, they're gonna need everybody
to kind of hit this thing. Going a lot of
pressure to be able to hit thirty each week, A
lot of it's not a video game, not a video
game and tough and.
Speaker 2 (01:53:33):
You could help me out here because he had that
risk injury last year and you know again you've been there,
done that, played the game. How serious is that? Can
he come back from it? No one's really talking about it.
He says he feels good. You know, I watched the
TV Sports guys at eleven o'clock and so they see
him in private. He looks great throwing the football. That
doesn't mean anything. Seven on seven throwing the football when
(01:53:55):
a guy's rushing you, trying to you know, kind of
throw his body on you, there's a little different. And
then seven on seven without without pads on. I mean
that risk thing is that is that big of a deal.
Have you seen people with rest risk injuries coming back?
Tell me about that?
Speaker 4 (01:54:09):
If he can, Yeah, he can come back, depending on
how bad it is, but he certainly can come back.
I haven't heard people talk about his balls being off
in terms of like in terms of like his passing,
his accuracy being impacted by the risk. In As long
as that's not a factor, he'll have a chance extended
to be to Joe Burrow that everyone loves.
Speaker 2 (01:54:27):
All right, it's staying in that same division right now.
It's going to the Cleveland Browns. And this is an
easy one because you would mention this early on and
I remember what you say because I write it down
and we talked about the non quarterback MVP. It's got
to be Miles Garrett the defensive end because you said
he very well could be the defensive Player of the
Year in the National Football League. You said it right,
(01:54:50):
and he could be. I think he might.
Speaker 4 (01:54:51):
Yeah, he could be. He could be, no doubt, no doubt.
He's good enough. He's talented enough to be able to
do it. For sure.
Speaker 2 (01:54:57):
He should get about ten to fifteen sacks this year.
Don't you think I would think?
Speaker 4 (01:55:00):
Yes, I mean I think it's that's a reasonable expectation.
Speaker 2 (01:55:04):
And he's your guy, he's your guy fan VP on
the Browns.
Speaker 4 (01:55:06):
Yeah, for sure.
Speaker 2 (01:55:07):
I'm staying with the linebacker position for the Dallas Cowboys
as the MVP. And I love this guy, Micah Parsons,
he's the guy. He's got to get his money too,
all right.
Speaker 4 (01:55:19):
Yeah, he has to get his money too. But yeah,
you're right, he has to play well, he has to
play at a high level because they're gonna need him.
I mean they're gonna need him. They're gona need them,
they gonna need him. They gonnaed him to be able
to play big time football. He's gonna have to stop
indefendive run. He's gonna have to do some things for
them to be able to dominate people like they want
to difference maker.
Speaker 2 (01:55:39):
That's what he is. I like Michael Parsons, and he'll
get his money because they need him really And in
the same token, you got the non quarterback m VP.
As I say, this is an easy one here to
San Francisco. Forty nine is gonna be Christian McCaffrey. He's
the guy. I mean, he's their MVP. Impact players in
both the running game and the passing game.
Speaker 4 (01:56:00):
Yeah, running game, pass game. He has to do it
all when we just think about, like the way these
games goes. Guys that can impact you in a few
different ways that can change it. Atlanta scrimmer, running, stopping
the pack, all that other stuff. So you're right, I
mean he's a good choice.
Speaker 2 (01:56:16):
All right, I'm gonna go to Miami Dolphins. I like
this guy a lot, so yeah, I play favorites a
little bit. I'm gonna wide receive a Tyreek Hill, the
non quarterback MVP Tyreek Hill Miami Dolphins.
Speaker 4 (01:56:28):
Yeah, he's the guy that tilS the field. He's distraught,
that stirs the drink as he goes, they go, and
the amount of attention that he commands allows everyone else
to get loose. Cannot knock you. Tyreek Hill does everything.
I get a chance to see him today and I'm excited.
Speaker 2 (01:56:43):
About well, okay, and then it's staying in that same division,
in the same position. I'm going with the New York Jets.
I'm going to go with Garrett Wilson.
Speaker 4 (01:56:50):
Hmm. Interesting. I will counter that with a Breeze Haul
the running back. And the reason why is because it's
gonna be more important now than ever that they can
control the game. And the only way you can control
it thoroughly is to run the football. And so brees
All plays a huge Roland Dead kind of reminds me
of Levan Beill in his prime in terms of all
the different things that he.
Speaker 2 (01:57:11):
But he was hurt though, wasn't he hurt last year?
Speaker 4 (01:57:13):
He was? He was hurt, and so like giving a
full opportunity to showcase his talents, He's gonna be one
of the more impressive ones that we see.
Speaker 2 (01:57:22):
All right, that's pretty good. We may pick this up
next week, we'll see, But right now it's time.
Speaker 1 (01:57:26):
All right.
Speaker 2 (01:57:26):
He's Bucky Brooks. I'm Andy Furman. We are Fox Sports
Sunday on Fox Sports Radio. Point your finger because the
blame game is freaking next.
Speaker 3 (01:57:36):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in

Speaker 2 (01:57:48):
All right, the blame game coming right up, And of
course he is Bucky Brooks. I'm Andy Furman. We are
Fox Sports Sunday at Fox Sports Radio, top of the hour,
nine o'clock Eastern Time, about ten minutes from now. The
Swollen Dome himself, Mike Harmon and Ryan Hollins will join
you at the top of it. I don't go anywhere.
What a fact. Are great staff, Brianna, she's back for
(01:58:10):
a second week. Magic Man, the Magic Man, Mark Ramsey
and Kevin Whiteworld the sports updates. But right now it
is time for the blame game.
Speaker 3 (01:58:18):
You ruin me. It's all your fault. No, it's your fault.
Speaker 2 (01:58:22):
What it's all your fault?
Speaker 3 (01:58:27):
Maybe it's everyone's faults. She's a liar.
Speaker 2 (01:58:31):
That's why there's the blame game. The blame game.
Speaker 3 (01:58:33):
Let's figure out who to blame.
Speaker 2 (01:58:35):
He's a liar, the blame game. Are you ready, Brianna?
Are you ready?
Speaker 11 (01:58:39):
Yes? I'm ready?
Speaker 2 (01:58:40):
All right, go right, Okay.
Speaker 12 (01:58:41):
So Canada sends two Olympic staff members home for spying
on New Zealand's soccer practice with the drone.
Speaker 11 (01:58:48):
Who do you blame?
Speaker 2 (01:58:49):
Let's bucket go first.
Speaker 4 (01:58:51):
Oh, I'm blamed the head coach. The head coach. She's
responsible for everything that takes place under her direction. And
so if someone flying a drone and they're getting extra
insights and spying on teams, they had to come from her.
No one is doing that independently. And I know when
they're talking about the us TO speculated this been going
on for a while. Well, yeah, she's the hit of
(01:59:13):
the snake. She's the one that is in charge, so
ultimately it falls at her feet.
Speaker 2 (01:59:18):
I think Bucky Brooks is too kind to just put
the blame on the coach. I think it's the whole
nation of Canada. I really do. Yeah, the whole nation,
because she's a representative of basically Canadian people. She really is.
She was chosen to lead. She's a leader, she's a coach,
she's a teacher. What kind of a message as you
send out? The message I receive right now from her
(01:59:39):
is that I can't trust Canadians except my wife. My
wife's Canadians. I can't trust Canadians from here to there.
They're cheatish and if you turn your back and then
they'll steal your wallet. So how do you like? I
think it's disgusting, I really do in a national stage
like that, on an international stage.
Speaker 11 (01:59:56):
Okay, Okay, are you done? Are you good?
Speaker 2 (01:59:58):
Yeah? I'm done.
Speaker 11 (01:59:58):
Okay, I'm trying to make sure you feel better. Okay.
Speaker 12 (02:00:01):
So next, the NBA dumped TNT for Amazon starting in
twenty twenty five.
Speaker 11 (02:00:05):
Who do you blame? Andy?
Speaker 2 (02:00:07):
I blame the fact that we are now moving towards
an Amazon situation. We're moving towards a social platform situation,
a pay for play. They don't want to be on
a certain cable network. Cable is pass right now. I'm
sorry to see it, and I think that the TNT
show in the NBA with Charles Barkley is gonna be missed.
(02:00:27):
But you know what, you move on. You know, it
was good then, and certainly people are gonna miss it,
But after the first two weeks they'll say, what was
the name of that show again? So it's not a
big whoopee, it's not a big deal. Move on the
heck with it?
Speaker 4 (02:00:43):
Wow? I blame CNT. They could have made this easy
for themselves if they had just come ponied up early.
But the headed the network made some disparaging remarks about
not need the NBA, and so the NBA proved to them, Okay,
you don't need us figure it out. How they have
to go figure it out?
Speaker 11 (02:01:02):
All right?
Speaker 12 (02:01:03):
So Steph Curry says if his Golden State Warriors hit
the skids, he might leave.
Speaker 11 (02:01:08):
Who do you blame Bucky?
Speaker 4 (02:01:11):
Bucky, I'll bet him go, say, Warriors for letting it
fall off like that. First you let Clave Thompson get
out the building. Now you're potentially gonna let Steph Curry
get out the building. Look is their inability to sustain
their run? Yes, they've been dynastic, and it'd be great
to have four rings, but there have been some low
moments in between. Steph currys gonna go and chase some
rings elsewhere. They're not treating him and the rest of
(02:01:33):
the players right.
Speaker 2 (02:01:34):
You know, as much as I want to blame Steph Curry,
I will not blame him because I love him and
I think he's a great ambassador for the NBA. Now
I'm gonna blame society right now because it's about legacy.
Steph Curry does not want his legacy to remember as
playing on a losing team. And it's not you know,
it's not a big deal. He's a great player. He's
the best shooter ever in the history of the NBA.
(02:01:57):
So no matter if the team is winning or losing,
no really cares, but he cares and is pressure. That's
what it is. I'm sorry, and that's it. I think
that's it for us. So we want to thank everybody.
Stay tuned for Hollands and the Swollen Dome right here.
Fox see you next week.
