And here he is, the one and only Jeff Schwartz. Hello,
Jeff O are you?
Speaker 2 (00:36):
I am good? I'm glad to be here. Is a
wonderful day, so much sports the last week, and the
best part is we're one day close to the NFL Draft.
We just Thursday, and I cannot wait for the NFL Draft.
I love it and it's just so much fun for
three days, right, I mean, really, Day one and two
for most of us is when the heavy, you know,
the heavy action happens. You know. I followed Day three
(00:59):
because of my college work and seeing which players that
I cover end up being drafted on Day three. But
I cannot wait for Thursday to get here. There's just
gonna be so much drama in the draft this year,
and it's finally here, and it's gonna be a lot
of fun on Thursday night.
Speaker 1 (01:14):
Now I ask you this, I mean you and I
come from different roads because you played the game, you
sat at the draft, you experienced the draft.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
Well I didn't sit the draft, but I mean.
Speaker 1 (01:23):
You sat waiting to get your name calls.
Speaker 2 (01:25):
Yeah, yeah, but I.
Speaker 1 (01:27):
Know, yeah, I watch it as a fan, and you know,
you're really pumped up and excited. I like the first
two three rounds basically that's it, finally what my hometown
team is doing. Yes, but there's a different excitement I
hear out of your voice right now about the draft.
Speaker 2 (01:40):
Well, I just like it because I mean I spend
months talking about it, and so to me it feels like, Okay,
all this time I've spent talking about the draft and
studying mostly the first round, you know, in the high
(02:01):
second round, it finally will will come to fruition on
Thursday night. Plus this year's draft, there's a lot of
just unknown. Right after the first pick, which we think
is Bryce Young, there's just a lot of unknown it's
gonna be a draft where we have players that some
teams are gonna have the same player ranked tenth on
their big board, and someone's had the same player ranked
(02:22):
thirty seventh on their big board. And it's gonna be
just a draft where players are gonna be all. But
there's no I think there's almost no predicting what's gonna
happen after After one, you might sort of get the
range where our guys gonna be drafted, but you might not.
And then there's a hooker might is a fifth quarterback
might go in the first round. At some point, there's
got to be a trader team. There could be a
Aaron Rodgers trade on Thursday night or Lamar Jackson trade
(02:44):
on Thursday night. But I am with you as far
as you know. The the third day, which is rounds four, five, six,
and seven, that's Saturday. I'm not like by the TV
watching right because a lot of those players I don't
personally know right now. I cover the PAC twelve for
(03:07):
a living. Monday through Friday is my packed off radio job,
so I know those players. I personally I don't know them,
but I follow them for you know, three years at
the minimum, So I like to see where they're drafting, right,
especially gainst some Oregan. So I will follow, but Saturday,
you know, I have kids baseball. Like, I'm not sitting
in front of the television watching the draft. Now twelve
(03:32):
years ago, when I knew everyone that was playing, sure, yeah,
I cared about the third round. I'm a Chiefs fan.
Are you a Bengals fan?
Speaker 1 (03:40):
Yes, I am, you know, and I see what they
do for the city. I mean the sports really.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
Right, it's fantastic.
Speaker 1 (03:46):
It's great.
Speaker 2 (03:46):
But again, like so I follow what the Chiefs do,
but a lot of times those draft picks that are
in the third day, you know they're not going to
be Day one impact players, right. It's not often that
you get a guy drafted in the fifth round who
starts off season for you. The Chiefs had one of
those guys in Trey Smith, their offensive woman, but realistically,
he's the second round draft pick that fell for medical reasons, right,
(04:10):
And so even if you're a fan, yeah, you like
to see those guys drafted rounds four, five, six, and
seven because those guys will be a bulk of your
special teams guys, some of your backups. You know they'll
get some playing time, right, but they're not gonna Ideally,
those guys are not Day one starters for your team.
Hopefully you have more depth than that. But it's good
to see. Oh wow, okay we addressed the tight end position.
(04:31):
Oh okay, we got a wide receiver. Oh we have
our future you know, offensive tackle. And so that's the
part to me is fun about Day three is for
you if your you know, for your favorite team is
figuring out, you know, some of those depth pieces that
you might have to use at some point this season.
Speaker 1 (04:48):
But I'm hearing what you're saying about twelve years ago.
You really fell of it in death. I'm sure that.
And I'm not putting more to him out there. I'm
sure you're saying, how in the hell did that guy
get drafted ahead of me? I'm sure there was one
of those deals.
Speaker 2 (04:58):
I've done that. I have done that many times, you
know what. In fact, I will go right now to
my NFL draft on Wikipedia, because I do this quite
often and I look it up and be like, well,
I play longer than that guy. So yeah, I mean, look,
I was picked two forty one, I was in the
seventh round, and I was I had no I had No,
(05:24):
I knew where I was gonna be drafted, right. My
agents were very honestly said, you're gonna be drafted the
fourth round through the sixth round. That's where I think
you're gonna be drafted. My draft year, the first two
rounds saw ten off of the tackles drafted. It was
the most in two rounds I think, still in INFL history.
So I thought to myself, Wow, if ten got drafted already,
(05:47):
that must mean like, you know, number eleven through fifteen,
which is where I thought I sort of was, because typically,
you know, the twelfth offensive tackle gets taken in the
third round right about there. Wow, okay, well I must
be up next. So I had planned to not watch
the draft, at least not watch it till the fifth
round or something like that. And I woke up this
(06:08):
when the draft was was two hours, two days. It
was a Saturday and Sunday. I woke up Sunday morning
and sat in front of the television to watch the
third round and in the fourth round, the fifth round,
the sixth round, and stepth ron. A long day. Man,
I thought my name would get called sooner. But yeah,
I look at like all the guys crafted in front
of me, and even starting with like the third round. Man,
(06:29):
I played more than all these guys, so it uh,
I do that every now and then. I mean'm not
I'm not petty at all. I'm not petty all andy,
but I will we'll take it'll take a peak ski. Yeah.
More than him him him, yep, yep. Okay, yeah yeah
no not okay, yeah, yeah, more than most of these guys.
So yeah, yeah, I played more than like eighty percent
(06:53):
of the guys drafted in front of me. That's great.
I mean rafter round one, I mean round one. Dwayne
Brown's still playing. But you know, roun one, saw saw
some pro bowlers, so it was good. It was a
good round one.
Speaker 1 (07:08):
Did you ever have a coach or a personal guy
come to you and say, Jeff, you know we we
sort of made a mistake with you. We should have
done anywhere. No, No, they don't do No.
Speaker 2 (07:17):
I had a personal guide, so I never benched at
the combine. And I had a personal guy tell me like,
that really hurt you.
Speaker 1 (07:25):
We had that bad back?
Speaker 2 (07:26):
Yeah no, well that was I was. I had another injury.
It couldn't bench. But and they're like, you never betge,
it hurts you as okay, whatever, man, but that no,
I don't think it. Uh, no one ever told me that.
Speaker 1 (07:41):
But but how did how did those exercises like in
the combine really correlate to what kind of a football
player you are? I mean running the forty? I mean,
come on, alignment is never gonna run the forty, right?
I meanause, I don't get that. I really don't broad
jump high to all that stuff.
Speaker 2 (07:55):
Okay, So the reason why it's a little bit important, Well,
forty time is more about uh the first ten, so
the ten yards split and the time the ten to
twenty and the forty in that one forty yard run,
that will explain, uh could often explain explosiveness. Right, if
you're able to get out of your stance very quickly.
(08:17):
The thought is, well, then you're able to get out
your stands very quickly if you're in your in your
offensive tackle stance, right offensive guard stance. So there's a
little bit there, the broad jump and the vertical measure
explosiveness in your hips. How how quickly can you explode off,
you know, off the ground through your hips, especially in
the broad jump right that then that translates to obviously
(08:37):
using your hips as degenerate powers and offensive linemen. But
more than anything else is you know, there's there's comps. Right,
so we know that you know, offensive linemen who succeed
for the most part run sort of these times, right,
you know, and this and so like if you draft
a player, you feel more comfortable with the idea that, okay,
(08:58):
they're in they're in the rain of guys that succeed
a lot of times. You know, you don't often want
a draft, in my opinion, the outlier. Right, it's just hard,
especially early in the draft, which is why Bryce Young
getting the quarterbacks for a second, it's such an interesting
picket number one for the Panthers because he's an outlier, right,
Like he would be the smallest guy at quarterback in
(09:21):
the first round to ever have a successful career. Right,
And you never want to me to draft the smallest
the or the biggest in the other end, right, Like,
you don't want the outlier. And when you have these
these numbers from the combine, you have precedent and have
you have you know enough to say, okay, well, Jeff
(09:42):
Schwartz did this. Okay, this fits into this box of
combine numbers. And it's like that that's what it's about, right,
And some guys do better that. My brother had a
terrible combine. He was a four time All Pro. Right, Right,
Orlando Brown, now in your Bengals, right, had one of
the worst comp lines ever from off it's to tackle.
He's obviously a very good, very good pro. He's a
(10:04):
pro bowler, right, Like, there are guys that that that
go outside the box that have you know, bad days,
and there's obviously guys that run really well and and
they're not very good pros. But for the most part,
it just tells you, Okay, well, Josh Schwartz did this,
here's what we have for those comps. And then for
the most part, and that probably it's close enough like
that that that gives you a decent enough example you
(10:25):
kind of like an idea of like where that player
athletically can be in the NFL.
Speaker 1 (10:31):
Okay, So my question is this, say you have a
great athlete. A guy runs track at a University of Oregon,
never touched the football, but he manages to get to
the combine and he wows these guys he could be
drafted and he doesn't even know what football looks like.
Speaker 2 (10:45):
Well, Okay, in the end, though film still matters right now.
We had a player who played with us in college
named Jordan Kent. His dad, Ernie Kent was was our
basketball coach. Is but Jordan ran track, he played basketball,
and then he became played football. And you know, I
(11:06):
was in your train of thought of like, man, dude
can fly, right, he's so fast, he can just come
play football and he's gonna beat exit and football player
and he hadn't. He turned out to be actually a
decent football better than I actually thought now looking back
on it, like, I just it's harder to do than
I thought it would be. Right. It was my first player,
(11:27):
and i'd seen kind of do that before. He ended
up playing, uh three or four years in the NFL.
But yeah, four years in NFL. I believe a six
round draft pick. But it's harder to do because you
know the cornerback you're playing against is also just as
fast as you and more skilled. Right, So there's there's
(11:49):
a skill level involved with having to do that as well.
So you can be fast. And a lot of I
follow high school recruiting because I'm a door collected that
and you know a lot of these these high school
wide receivers are track guys in high school, right, so
like they they're fast, the cornerbacks are fast. Like everyone's fast.
(12:09):
So you can't just take a track guy and put
him out there and expect that to just be the difference.
Speaker 1 (12:15):
But they've done that in the past. Oh, Dallas Cowboys
have dressed great track guys to make them wide receivers.
I mean even many, but it's happened.
Speaker 2 (12:23):
Yeah, I mean, yeah, I'm looking right now. Like like
Jordan Camp was a was a four time All American
in college at two hundred meter, like you can fly,
and again he in college he had forty seven receptions,
so he actually turned into a decent wide receiver, which
is the rarity, right to take the track guy and
be like, hey, come and play wide receiver for us,
(12:43):
because he's just an incredible athlete. When you play basketball
and you run track and you play football, you're just
incredible athlete. But there's a skill to wide receiver. And
that's why it's tougher to just do that. Hey, take
the fastest guy in the field, and take the biggest guy,
and you know there's a thought of sometimes oh take
you know, take the seven foot or just haven't come
out and roam fades in the end zone right for touchdowns,
Like it's harder than that. So that's why I think
(13:06):
in the end though, when you see guys drafted on Thursday, Friday, Saturday,
the film is most important. What you put on the
field in your college career is the reason you'll get drafted.
And also projections. Right, there's players. There's Tyree Wilson who's
a defensive end from Texas Tech, who is being looked
at as possibly the first defensive player drafted in this draft,
(13:28):
ahead of a player like like Will Anderson, who is
who is the Alabama defensive enda is thirty four and
a half saxon college, I mean fifty tackles for loss.
You know, he's a very productive player like in the
SEC Jalen Carter we know from Georgia and Tyree Wilson
(13:49):
has a lot of production but.
Speaker 1 (13:52):
Tough.
Speaker 2 (13:53):
But yeah, but most people would think, like, Okay, Will
Anderson is the lock number two pick, right, you know,
bright young or maybe three three pick. But people are
Tyry Wilson more upside more this than that. So upside
the film plus upside right, that that matters to people.
And so I got Tyry Wilson Michael number two because
of the upside. So you know it's uh, you know,
(14:16):
Terry Wilson, I'm looking right now. So Will Anderson had
thirty his thirty four and a half sacks in his career.
Tyry Wilson has seventeen, so you know, not as much production.
But he's six six two seventy five. Will Anderson's six
three two fifty and people look at his length and think, okay,
well that that's a guy that you know, the upside
of what he can do maybe is plus the film
(14:37):
he shows is just better than Will Anderson. And so
film plus upside plus how you test, it's all one
sort of kind of big grouping of things together at
least to a draft pick.
Speaker 1 (14:50):
There you go, all right, he's Jeff Schwartz. Get him

(15:52):
a little bit of the Lakers. Don't count him out.
I can't believe it. They're up two to one against Memphis.
But what about this clown Dylan Brooks, I mean, he's
three thirteen seven points, gets ejected and trying to get
it to Lebron's head. It's great playoff basketball. Lebron goes
to another level right now. I love the twenty five
points nine boards Lakers won eleven Memphis one, O one
Lakers up two to one. Who knew it.
Speaker 2 (16:15):
I just don't know what Dylan Brook was trying to accomplish, right,
because like, I'm all for a little trash talk, Like
I like some robbery and sports, right, I like a
little animosity. I think it makes for some for some
fun viewing as sports fans. Right. I know that I
talked trash, but I typically didn't go up to like
(16:35):
von Miller, okay and tell him that he stinks before
I played Von Miller. Okay. I didn't go up to
Julius Peppers, who I think is the best defensive linement
I ever played against. I played with him in Caroline,
I played with yes and when he was with the
Bears and Packers, and say hey, hey, I think you stink.
I think you're old. I wouldn't do that before a game, right,
because I don't want to poke the Bear. Right. There
(16:57):
were defensive linemen who who we knew, like, hey man,
you just like you don't you you don't kind of
just like don't don't talk to that guy, right, Like
don't don't talk to him, like, just don't poke him,
don't get him mad. You can do your work, but
just don't like don't get him too another level, right, Like,
(17:18):
don't make sure he stays on the level he's at,
because if he elevates to that next level, we're in trouble. Right.
Speaker 1 (17:24):
And look, it is Dylan Brooks character. I mean, he's
more concerned with Lebron and how he's going to handle
Lebron than basically his team's success. I really believe that.
Speaker 2 (17:33):
He's trying to. It feels like he's trying to play
a character, right, Like he's trying to build himself up
into this villain and I don't and he's not good
enough to do. Yeah, But Draymond has four championships and
is like a historically good defensive player, right, Like, Draymond
Green is going into the Hall of Fame not because
(17:54):
it's his line of eight, seven and four as a
career line. He's going to the Hall of Fame because
of his defense and his leadership and his ability to
to kind of in big moments, play really well, which
he has throughout his career in the playoffs, right, he's
done a great job in big games. Dylan Brooks has
done none of that. And in tonight's game, the last
night's game, I guess tonight I mean whatever ended probably
this morning. I was I was dead asleep, but I
(18:15):
saw this morning for the show, you know, and then
he just and then he hits Lebron in the twig
and berries like, dude, if you're going to talk all
this talk, the man up and guard the dude, right, Like,
come on, that's a punk move to hit someone in
the growing like that, after you talked all this trash
about how he's too old and and how you don't
respect him. And you know, the one thing about the
(18:37):
comments he made I think after game two was before
either before after a game two, he doesn't respect. He
doesn't have my respect until he drops forty and it's ridiculous.
And my thing is like, you don't have to you
can talk trash like again pro trash talk. This is
we came on the show after you know, Angel Reese
and Kaylen Clark and whatnot. Pro trash talk. That's Jeosh Schwartz,
(19:00):
pro trash talk. But I think sometimes this respect line, right,
athletes say, well, you know, they use that line to
sort of to flavor up the trash talk. No respect
and I don't respect this, I respect that. It kind
of makes the trash talk sound tougher right, and more
spice to it. But to me, it makes it sound
like it makes you. It makes me in this situation,
(19:23):
it disqualizes everything you said because you can still talk
trash about Lebron while still respecting him as a player, right, Like,
that's part of the game. You're going to talk trash.
He's your playoff opponent. But to say I don't respect
him until he drops forty to me just qualifies everything.
It makes you look at a clown because you have
to respect Lebron. I know, how can you play the
(19:44):
sports and not respect one of the best players of
all time. Again, you can dislike him, you can dislike him,
you can hate his guts, you can you cannot like
the player, you're not even like the person. But you
have to respect him on the court. That that's that's
Anne so so to me when you said when he
said that I don't respect him, to he scores forty
(20:06):
on me, like, grow up, dude, grow up? Come on.
And then of course you had them kind of where
you wanted them, right, I thought they were gonna lose Anyways,
the Grizzlies workers eighty didn't play well last again. Lebron's
he's thirty eight years old. It's been sort of pacing
himself the first two games. He kind of didn't play
as much as we normally see in Game two and
you know, he's been sort of kind of taking his time.
(20:26):
I think in the first two games. LA has not
had a home playoff game in ten years, the Lakers,
oddly enough until last night, because of because the Bubble
when they won the championship in the bubble was in
the bubble, not at home. And that crowd they have,
the LA gets knocked for crowds. They have a great, Uh,
the Lakers crowd is great in the playoffs. They have
a great Lakers crowd. They were gonna win anyways, but
(20:49):
when you know, like it was up thirty five to
nine in the first quarter, that's that's filling book.
Speaker 1 (20:55):
And and Brooks was shooting three for thirteen, he's like
on for seven.
Speaker 2 (20:58):
I think ad was Ad played well, which you should
because the Grizz have no centers. So the Lakers are
gonna win this series. Look, Jaw had forty five, but
he had nineteen those points when the Gris were down twenty.
Like I think that it's you know, this is to me,
those are empty numbers, right, I mean when when you
have points, nineteen points, but you still lose by ten
(21:20):
and the game is not really close. Okay, like great, great,
but that game was over right?
Speaker 1 (21:27):
And I like what what Doc Rivers said the other day,
because honestly, the NBA is getting tougher than the NFL.
I mean, what the hitting in the groin and in
the hanging downs. I mean, come on, what's the point.
Why are they doing that? I don't get it.
Speaker 2 (21:41):
I've always felt like I've always felt, you know, two
things that I they crossed the line for me in
kind of in you know, the crash talk and physicality
of sport is growing shots and spinning in someone's face, right, Like,
those are two things that to me are just not acceptable.
Have you everything else?
Speaker 1 (22:00):
What have I done it?
Speaker 2 (22:02):
Yeah? No, No, I've been I've been spin on before,
and I've been punching the The guy tried to punch
me the groin, he missed, but he just hit me
the thigh instead. And a thigh. There's many jokes that
we made there, don't worry, but it's a family program
that won't make any of them. So it uh it
just it. Uh, those are two no knows to me
(22:25):
like that, to me, is just a punk move like
any any person. What you know, what, what's what sets
you apart of being a pro obviously, is your ability
to play the game with with with high skill right
and technique and fundamentals, and being able to do that
in pressure and pressure situations and big time moments. Anyone
(22:45):
can hit someone on in the groin. I could get
my kids out of bed right now and have them
go on to the court and punch someone in the
groin right like anyone could do that. That's not that,
that doesn't that's that doesn't take any sort of skill.
It doesn't take right, it doesn't take any sort of effort.
I don't think anything. It's just a cheap shot, like
anyone can do that. And that to me, and and again,
that has always felt like something that should be off limits.
(23:08):
And Brooks clearly did it on purpose, Like come on, man,
like the ball was behind Lebron's back, you weren't like
you weren't you weren't you know, you weren't making a
play on the ball, And it was very clear what
he was doing. We're not you know, we're not we're
not naive to what to what he to what he did,
and he got objected for it, which I think he
should do it again. The ball. If the ball was
(23:31):
being crossed over in front of Lebron, Okay, fine, your
hand is there, you miss. You hit him in the groin,
but the ball was behind Lebron's back, and so you
can't claim that you were trying to knock the ball
away when you hit him directly in the groin if
the balls behind his back. And again it didn't matter.
The Grids were losing that game anyways. But I just
(23:52):
even with trash shot, there's a little bit of respect
involved when you do it, especially for Dylan Brooks. Like
someone some Lakers account put up a graphic with like this,
this flaming dealing Brooks on social media. It listed like
career points and they had like Lebron with thirty eight
thousand dealing books with five thousand MVPs, four zero, championships
(24:14):
four zero, all sorts of lect just nineteen zero all
NBA's eighteen zero. It's unfair, but you look, you poked
a bear man like I just wouldn't have done that.
You had the kind of Lakers, why were you wanted them? Right?
Ad wasn't playing terribly well. Lebron again was sort of
not going up. No, he wasn't playing all the minutes
(24:35):
like he's old. He's older. He can't do this. He
can't play like that every night, right, This is he
just can't. So I Anthony Davis is there. It's standing
in its Davis's job to play that well every night, right,
not Lebron's job Anymore's why Russell's it's all these other
guys are Hotchamore and Austin Reeves. You're hoping that some
other guys take the take, you score some points. Lebron
does have to be that guy every night. But last
(24:56):
night you'll, you know, you woke up the beast. I mean,
Lebron was having. He was having. He had put back dunks,
He had that full court you know, uh off the
steel dunk like he was. He was moving last night.
So it was fun to watch. There you go.
Speaker 1 (25:13):
Okay, Jeff Schwartz, Andy Furman, Fox Sports Sunday on Fox Sports.
Ready you talk about a bad bet?
Speaker 2 (25:19):
Wait?
Speaker 1 (25:19):
Will you hear this next from the tiraq dot com studio.
But first, Steve de Seger has all your sports.
Speaker 4 (25:25):
The Lakers are up two games to one on Memphis
in the NBA Playoffs first Round LA one at home tonight,
one eleven to one oh one. It wasn't that close.
Lakers led after the first quarter thirty five to nine. Eventually,
John Moran scored twenty two straight Memphis points in the
fourth quarter. He finished with forty five, but in defeat.
Moran had missed the previous game with a bruised hand.
(25:45):
Miami's up two games to one after beating number one.
Milwaukee won twenty one to ninety nine. Jannis Tenecumpo was
out again for the Bucks with a bruise back. Phoenix
leads three games to one after downing the Clippers in
LA won twelve one hundred. Philadelphia completed a four game
sweep of its first round series, winning at Brooklyn ninety
six eighty eight, and Joel Embi did not play due
(26:06):
to a spring knee. To the Stanley Cup Playoffs, Vegas
won in double overtime at Winnipeg, Toronto won in overtime
at Tampa Bay, and New Jersey won in overtime at
the Rangers. The late game went to Colorado six to
four at Seattle. Four more NHL games on the Sunday schedule.
Liv Golf was playing in Australia this weekend. Taylor Gooch
led by ten strokes after a second round sixty two.
(26:28):
He has won by three. Sunday's NASCAR five hundred at
Talladega will be on Fox TV at three pm Eastern time.
Denny Hamlin ear in the poll boxing win for Gervonte Davis,
who KOed Ryan Garcia in the seventh round. Davis is
twenty nine to zero and to baseball, Tampa Bay now
eighteen and three after a ten inning win over the
White Sox four to three. The Rais are undefeated at home.
(26:49):
They've also homered in all twenty one games so far,
a major league record. Pittsburgh won its six game in
a row, Baltimore won its fifth in a row. Miami
swept a double header at Cleveland. Texas beat Oakland eighteen
to three. Adolas Garcia had three home runs. The A's
record falls to four and seventeen, and the Kansas City
Royals ended a seven game losing streak with an eleven
(27:12):
eight win at the Angels. Casey with five and the
ninth I'm Steve Disager, Thank you Steve.
Speaker 1 (27:16):
See in about an hour. Five big losers we'll get
to that in just about a minute. He's Jeff Schwartz,
I mean, Dey Fermaner. We are Fox Sports Sunday on
Fox Sports. Ready and eat Mark Schwartz at about seven
minutes for now. But this kind of hit home a
little bit for you because the NFL and the Detroit
Lions in particular, five players have been suspended for gambling.
And there's a problem here about a two prong problem. Really,
(27:38):
the NFL is in bed with gambling partners. So basically
the thought of gambling is in the air if you will,
and now you've got players, you got to respect the
sanctity of the game and make sure the game is pure.
And these guys are gambling, and there's so many crazy rules.
Maybe you can help me out here where you can't
gamble on obviously your own team, but you could gamble
other things you can't. And they fired some front office
(28:00):
people too with the Lions, so it's kind of crazy.
Speaker 2 (28:02):
Yeah, So I understand it's very hypocritical for the NFL
to be, you know, in have partnerships with gambling companies
and not let their players gamble. However, you know there
are some but also to like the NFL's in partnership
with with with alcohol companies, right, I mean, like, and
you know that they don't allow their their players to
drink alcohol on the premises either, right, Like I think
(28:25):
that we agree. That's okay, okay, right, So, like, you
know there can be there can be different you know,
there can there can be some some some some hypocritical
rules at times, okay, And I'm okay with the NFL
deciding not to let their players gamble in the NFL.
So here's here's what happened. And I didn't I actually
didn't know some of these rules exist until yesterday. Then
the specifics of the rules. You can never gamble NFL
(28:47):
games if if you're an NFL player for obvious reasons.
Right now, it is so hard to fix a game
that even if you gamble an NFL game, if your
NFL player, no one's fixing games ever. Okay, ever, it's
not happening. It's too hard, you would never want.
Speaker 1 (29:03):
There's too much money involved with a player. You can't
pay a guy to throw a game. You couldn't.
Speaker 2 (29:08):
There's too much money, you're not so even if so
even if Calvin Ridley, right, who wasn't even in the
facility at the time. It was on a was on
a break. I think he was on a he was
on ir ish. He was gambling in the NFL games.
Even these players that got busted game NFL games, they're
not no instant information, They're not like they don't have
a specialized injury report that they have that no one
(29:29):
else has. They don't know anything different. They're just gaming
for fun, just like me and you were gambling for fun. Okay,
they're not fixing games.
Speaker 5 (29:35):
But but.
Speaker 2 (29:37):
When NFL players gamble NFL games, it gives a whiff
of the games not being the highest integrity. The NFL
doesn't want that. And I understand the NFL saying don't
gamble in NFL games, we will suspend you. I gamble now,
I didn't gamble when I played. Just don't gamble when
you play. It's very easy, like you you don't have
(30:01):
to do this, Like the NFL has made it very clear,
don't gamble on NFL games. Like what are you gaining
from this? A couple hundred bucks, a couple thousand dollars,
like bragging right through your friends. Why are you gambling
the NFL games? It's a it's the hardest sport to gamble.
It sucks, it's so hard, and then you're doing it anyways,
(30:25):
don't just don't do it. Do it when you retire.
I promise you. I wait until I retired. It's gonna
be there when you retire. It's much you were to
do it than it was when I retire, when no
one was allowed to do it.
Speaker 1 (30:37):
You can't go to the paulative that. I understand that.
But can a couple of players get together and play
fantasy football?
Speaker 2 (30:42):
Yes, fantasy football's fine, but the product has to be
I think under two and fifty bucks. Okay, Now I
learned this yesterday and you don't know this. You can
gamble on sports. They're not the NFL, but they can't
happen on like league property. So you can't do it
in the facility, on the bus, on the plane, and
a couple of players were suspended for six games. Who gamble?
(31:05):
I believe on college football wall in the building. And
now when I played, we would do like what the
best way to put it? Like a pool? Right like
we would in the offensive line room. We put every
player will bring twenty bucks in on a Saturday, and
we made our rookies print out, like basically a word
(31:28):
document put down the ten biggest collegetball games of the week,
not even against the spread. It's like pick the winners.
They would just would circle the winners and we put
twenty bucks in a pot, and then the end of
the week, whoever had the most winners would get to
twenty you know, whatever turn of bucks. Okay, that's what
it sounds like. Do equipment guys maybe or whoever else
got fired got busted for I know the details, but
(31:50):
you know, we've done things like that, but this was
again different times before, you know, and again I'm not
even sure you would get in trouble for that now,
but guys, just don't do it. Like just the NFL
has made it very clear, do not gamble on the
NFL if you gamble on college table. I promise you
can wait till you get home or in your car
(32:13):
or somewhere else to gamble on college football. Just don't
do it.
Speaker 1 (32:16):
It's to me, it's ticket court. You've got to be
a complete moron because you can go home and do
it on your phone.
Speaker 2 (32:21):
Well yeah, yeah, and this is the Obviously the NFL
is partnering with these sports books, right, so they have
an idea of who's making the wagers, so you're able
to catch his players.
Speaker 1 (32:30):
And we'll have a friend do it for you, your
wife whatever means really like.
Speaker 2 (32:34):
Someone, right, Like, it doesn't feel like it's a hard
thing to pull off. But guys just don't gamble in
the NFL. And I'll give you example of the integrity issue. Right. So,
when Calvin Realley last year was busted for I think
it was two years ago now, because he set out
last year when he was busted for gambling on the NFL,
(32:55):
people went back and looked at his and looked at
games that he played and found instances were like he
read out of bounce to avoid getting hit or he
fell down to avoid getting hit. And they said, well,
look he's fixing the game, right, He's purposely avoiding contact
and taking himself out of plays so they don't score
so many points. So they and no, it's not doing that,
(33:16):
absolutely not. But because he got busted for gambling, it
gives the look of that and the NFL wants to
eliminate all those thoughts whatsoever. So that's why they come
down so hard of the parties.
Speaker 5 (33:26):
Right.
Speaker 2 (33:27):
Look, I think it's a tough punishment. But I got
where the NFL does it.
Speaker 1 (33:31):
Right, since the message out should does all right. He's
Jeff Schwartz. I'm Andy Furman. We have Fox Sports Sunday.

the top of the hour. He is Jeff Schwartz on
Andy Furman and we are Fox Sports Sunday on Fox
Sports Radio, and of course we welcome everybody back. And
of course we are live fromthty IRAQ dot com studio.
So let's do it, eat My Schwartz. Are you ready?
Are you ready?
Speaker 2 (34:53):
Am I Ready's everyone else ready? Go? Ready?
Speaker 1 (34:55):
Here we go. Let's get a little music underneath to
relax you now. First quite here we go Jeff Schwitz.
Who is the best coach in the NFL?
Speaker 2 (35:03):
And why it's Andy Reid right now? I think it's
Bill Belichick all time, ahead of any Reid though most likely.
Speaker 1 (35:14):
Best caution better. Why why would that be because of
the record or the handle part?
Speaker 2 (35:20):
I mean, Belichick has done it for forty years now,
Like he was the architect of the defenses that stopped
the Bills offenses in the late eighties, right like in
the early nineties, like he was he's credited with that
nineteen nineties Giant Super Bowl win right where they kind
of come up with a brand new defense essentially to
(35:40):
stop the Bills offense. He's been doing it for that
for so many years, all those Super Bowls, you know,
with the Giants, with the Patriots. He's had better success
in those bigger games than Andy's had over his career.
I think right now, Andy Reid's a better coach. He's
been able to adapt his game and his coaching style
to new NFL Bill Butcher just hasn't done that right.
(36:04):
He's been kind of a little stubborn and thing offensively.
He hired freaking Matt Patricia and Joe Judge to workers
offense last year. So I think Andy Reid's the best
coach now. I think that it's fair to say Belichick
is maybe the greatest coach ever, but I think any
reads a better coach right now.
Speaker 1 (36:20):
Oh right, sounds great. Question number two for the Big Band. Okay,
your first pick in this year's draft Thursday night.
Speaker 2 (36:27):
It's gonna be Bryce Young. He's the most ready to
play right now. He's scored the highest on this cognitive
test that I know. The numbers got leaked out there.
I don't know if there ever should be, but they were.
And you know, again he's the outlier though, right So,
the Panthers are drafting a player who would be you
know these you know, the smallest to succeed in the
(36:49):
first round at that position, which it's all it's possible.
Obviously he's a good football player, but it will be
Bryce Young.
Speaker 1 (36:56):
Okay? Is it good? Jeff Schwartz at the end of
film now has moved away from two a day's in preseason.
I mean that was this the norm. I guess when
you were playing.
Speaker 2 (37:08):
It's good for the players' bodies. I think it's tougher
to develop players with less practice time, but I think,
I mean, we're saying, like, yeah, I mean, it's it's
better for players long term health for sure.
Speaker 1 (37:21):
Right And speaking of elf, now, the NFL Players Association
have kind of come up with a study that less
injuries occur when you play on natural grass as opposed
to turf. Duh, I don't have to do it today.
Speaker 2 (37:33):
I don't even tell you that, right, I hate the turf.
I was this weekend, well, Thursday, I went to Charlotte
forty nine ers here in town UNCC and I buddy
my coaches offensive line for them, and I went to
just go to practice. Say hi, like, after standing on
the turf for two hours just watching practice. My body hurt,
(37:54):
like it's just it's horrid. It's not like it doesn't
feel good on your body. Grass is way more were
giving and there's way more give to it. So I'm
I'm with, I agree, agreed.
Speaker 1 (38:07):
Why did it take so long for the study to
come out and what's gonna happen? Are they going to
do anything about it?
Speaker 2 (38:12):
No, of course not, but they should because okay, okay,
like like Carolina here and Charlotte, we had grass for
years in the Panthers and it was great grass. It
was grass was beautiful. You know. David Tepper comes in
as the new owner and he wants soccer, and now
they put turf on the field so they can have
multi sports all the time. And so now we have
(38:36):
now we have a soccer team in Charlotte FC, and
they have a turf you know, turf turf field.
Speaker 1 (38:46):
It's certainly a lot easy upkeep cheap for sure, right, Yes,
that's the way it is. So it's going to be
like that. And I thought that the soccer teams would
have their own facilities, because like in Cincinnati have their
own stadium for soccer and the Bengals have their own
stadium and both the grass.
Speaker 2 (39:02):
Yeah, I don't think the Bengals football feel is turf?
Speaker 1 (39:04):
Right, no grass? Then I believe No, it's turf.
Speaker 2 (39:08):
Yeah, I think all I think all MLS is turf.
I think I'll play on turf. MLS yeah, okay, because
I think they all want to be the same surface.
I think they all play on turf. Maybe I'm wrong
about that, but I know a lot to Seattle, does Atlanta?
Does I know that for?
Speaker 5 (39:25):
You know?
Speaker 2 (39:25):
Like no, a lot of them share stadiums. This is easier,
like we don't have room to build in our stadium
here for for for for soccer only in Charlotte.
Speaker 1 (39:33):
Oh, hear what you're saying. Okay, Last, but not least,
this is one of your favorite deals, the top dish
you've ever prepared. For those who are interested in his book,
he My Schwartz. Yes, he's an accomplished chef.
Speaker 2 (39:45):
Oh man to ever ever made. I make a pretty mean,
uh prime Rib like it's for holidays, like a special
like like my like my wife, like if like Mother's
Day or something like I'll bust out of Prime Rib.
You put in the suv for six hours. You see
the sides you make a horse radish cream sauce, you
(40:08):
make to ows you for, you make some sort of
some vegetable or potato. You can make a potato with us.
It's like a thousandfferent ways to make potatoes I have.
I keep looking at it. I've saved a bunch of
different recipes on Instagram for potatoes I want to try out.
Speaker 1 (40:21):
Is that your next book?
Speaker 2 (40:22):
Chrispy Fried ones and stuff? But the prime rib is
pretty fri It's particular with the bones and stuff. Oh
so good.
Speaker 1 (40:29):
I surprised you never opened the restaurant.
Speaker 2 (40:31):
It's you don't make money doing that.
Speaker 1 (40:34):
That's for sure that I know. I had one. We
move on, but you'll have another book, I'm sure perhaps
one day. All right, there we go. Here's Jeff Schwartz.
I'm in the former firm, and then this is Fox
Sports Sunday. And by the way, they're going to be
together for a while. We'll tell you all about it
where right here on Fox Sports Sunday coming up next.
(40:57):
This move was unheard of for this team. He will
tell you all about that in just about a minute.
Good morning, everyone, this is Fox Sports Sunday and Fox Sports. Ready,
He's Jeff Schwartz A me Andy Furman, and we're broadcasting
live from the tyrack dot com studios. Tyrack dot com
will help you get there and unmatched selection, fast free shipping,
free road has a protection and over ten thousand recommended installers.
(41:18):
Tyrack dot com the way tire buying should be, the
way sports talks should be. Here's the man, Jeff Schwartz. Yes,
here we go our two.
Speaker 2 (41:26):
My friend, I am here, I am ready to talk sports.
My likers one last night, I love it.
Speaker 1 (41:33):
Yeah, they did and they won big. Was like what
thirty five to seven in the first quarter something like that.
Speaker 2 (41:38):
Yeah, easy made easy, glided to.
Speaker 1 (41:42):
The end and with they have five guys in double figures,
a d thirty one and seventeen. Big game for him.
Another team that was two and one. Now when the
playoffs a Miami heat, I'm really surprised about that. But
Giannis is out, so that's a big loss for them
and Jimmy Butler. Really I don't think this guy gets
the praise and recognition he deserves. He's he got thirty
again last night, a BAM out of Bao at twelve points,
(42:05):
but love and board, so he was controlling the backboards
over there because Giannis was gone. But this Heat team,
they just gut it out. They really do they do.
Speaker 2 (42:13):
They just play kind of a equality. It's kind of
a style of basketball isn't flashy. That's why Butler doesn't
get kind of the praise he deserves. He's just not
a flashy basketball player, right, even though he does put
up a lot of points. I mean there's times when
when you watch him playing, all of a sudden, you're like, wait,
he has twenty seven points. Oh okay. I remember they
came to town so that he played the Hornets here
(42:34):
a couple months ago, and same thing. Like I looked
up and I was like, oh, Butler's got twenty seven points.
Speaker 5 (42:39):
Oh.
Speaker 2 (42:40):
I didn't feel like it, right, Like he's kind of
some one of those players that's sneaky getting a bunch
of points. He's been greatting the playoffs and look, of course,
without Joannis in there, it feels the series is much different.
I'm surprised he's not back yet. His back must be
really bad. It's I doubt my fair share of back injury.
(43:00):
I mean, if it's a muscle issue, he probably should
be fine by now, considering all the treatment is able
to get so maybe it's a little worse than that.
I'd be a little concerned if I.
Speaker 1 (43:07):
Was a Bucks fan, right, I am too. I mean,
and it takes away from the playoffs, doesn't it?
Speaker 2 (43:12):
It does. Some of me does wonder though, if they
thought they would win one of these last two games
without him and sort of steal a game without having
him have to play, and they didn't. Obviously, you know
they don't. They smoked Miami, right, so game when they
(43:37):
lost Game two, they smoked Miami, and maybe they hope that,
you know that they thought Game three they could be
able to quote steal from Miami, but they didn't. And
you mean, Jan has got to come back soon. I
feel like, so maybe game four he's able to come
back and we'll get a more competitive series with him
in there.
Speaker 1 (43:54):
Okay, you told about guys that are underrated. Guys could
get wrapped all pretty good and people have just bang
on them. That's and this guy's one of my favorites,
Russell Westbrook. This guy's averaging thirty eight games. I get it.
I get that there's no Paul George for the Clippers,
there's no Kawhi Leonard, but this guy has picked up
the slack and I love Russell Westbrook. And for people
just to hit on him and bang on him, you
know all you got to do. Just ask the big
(44:16):
old Oscar Robertson what he thinks of Russell Westbrook. That's
good enough for me. Gives you one hundred percent every game.
He's out there, hustles. It's got thirty seven last night.
I know he's a losing course. The Clippers lost the
down three games to one to the Suns. I didn't
think they beat the Suns. Okay, you got k d
and he got Anton, you got Chris Paul, you got
durand Booker and Paul combined for eighty points last night
(44:38):
and that one twelve, one hundred win over the Clippers.
But Westbrook's out there. He gives you everything. He's got
thirty seven points, averaging thirty points, averaging thirty points in
these games for the Clippers. I love the guy. Shot
seventeen for twenty nine.
Speaker 2 (44:52):
Where's a high volume SHOOTO tell you that?
Speaker 1 (44:54):
Yeah he is.
Speaker 2 (44:56):
I mean, he's this is the if you play like this,
Lakers would never rid of him like this is this
is a different type of player than he was all
season basically, right, he shot last night the three porter
better than he has in years. He plays played defense
better than he has any point this season. In this series,
it hasn't matter at all because you know, Kawhi, the
(45:18):
reason you load managed during the season is to play now.
It hasn't eve been playing right now. Such a Clippers thing, right,
Like you get this deep team with George and Kawhi
and Russell Westbrook and then you just get to losing
five to the Suns. But yet, what do you do
with Kawhi for the Clippers? Like he can't keep along
(45:40):
on this guy, right, even though he has he has
had a lot of success in the postseason. He has
put up great numbers in the postseason. But the reason
you go through the entire season and kind of let
him use those rest days is to get him to
this point and have him be healthy. And he's not healthy.
Speaker 1 (46:00):
It's amazing, he really is. I Mean, there's just some
guys that I guess injury point. Even KD. When KD
was hurtly, he came back. He had thirty one last
night with eleven boards. I mean, so he's back. He
had that bad ankle situation, but he's back. But some
guys just you can't get it back on the court. Now.
I was surprised that Anthony Davis is playing as good
as he is now, I mean because he's usually on
the on the sidelines, but he had thirty one and
(46:21):
seventeen boards last night. So but this this guy, Kawi Leonard,
he's just like a walking wounded.
Speaker 2 (46:26):
Yeah, it's it's not great if you are if you're
a Clippers fan. I mean, but to be fair, and
it often isn't great for a Clippers fan.
Speaker 1 (46:34):
So right, and I didn't think the Clipper would win
this series. And you said this I think last week
when the playoffs started, like you know, you're from l
A originally, and you just know the Clippers just for
some reason just never get it done.
Speaker 2 (46:47):
Yeah, no, never. They there were those franchises that you know,
they've never been to Western Conference final before and they've
only been to the second round three times, said the
Semis three times or quarterfinals three times. I think in
they're in their in their franchise history, they just have
(47:07):
not had play out of success. And maybe you know,
Balmar building a new arena and ingle Wood and kind
of getting their own identity away from the Lakers will
be helpful for them, just kind of relaunch their organization.
But he just never have success. Man, it's never due.
Speaker 1 (47:22):
Yeah, they had some pictures of Bomber, I think, on
on social media almost tearing the little hairs he had
left in his head out. Just I mean he's a fan.
I mean, he's no doubt about that. I mean he roots,
he's there, he's on top of stuff. But he's not
one of those owners. I don't think that is a
reactionary kneeds jerk kind of guy that he'd fire the
coach like right now or sell the team. I mean
he's gonna I think he's gonna stick with what he has.
Speaker 2 (47:45):
Well, why would you put it's not Tyler's fault. I mean,
no one's playing right like, it's not his fault. Kawhi
is not playing. It's not his fault that Paul George
is hurt. They tended consideration when you when you think
about whether or not to get rid of a coach.
And I don't think Tyler's won a championship right he
was the coach of the cast from Lebron one. He's
a championship pedigree. You're not going to fire that coach
(48:06):
because guys are injured. It's not his fault. While Kawhi
is hurt. The plan they followed just didn't work out
this year, and you hope next year be able to
just add more pieces, you know, and have again when
George and Kawhi are healthy, it's a pretty good one
two punch. You just gotta get both of them healthy
the same time.
Speaker 1 (48:26):
That's exactly right. And I don't think there's any surprise
here that the seventy six has not only won that series,
but they swept in. That's ninety six eighty eight and
then that's really what a sad story. Coming into the season,
there was some expectations that may go deep in the playoffs,
maybe even to the finals. But those teams, that roster
is completely different now than it was when the season started.
(48:47):
You know, they lose all those guys, they're gone.
Speaker 2 (48:49):
Yeah, well that's what happens, right, Katie's gone and.
Speaker 1 (48:52):
You know, Harden's gone, All those guys are gone, Simmons
is gone, and there's a different ball club.
Speaker 2 (48:57):
Yeah, so that's not Look, look, I think they were
hoping that, you know, the Sixers were hoping as you know,
the Bucks were hoping that they were able to do
what the Sixers did right, which is win a game
without Embid, right, win a game without Yannis, and six
Ers did it right. They took care of business, and uh,
they're you know, look, we've been we've been talking about this.
(49:18):
It's all setting up for one of the three bobbing
Boston wins today, so they kind of get back on
track against Atlanta. Atlanta kind of stolea. Atlanta was shooting
sixty percent and over fifty percent from three in Game three.
Boston takes that series back today from Atlanta and ends
up being Boston. I think the Bucks ended up winning
the series, but it ends up being you know, some
(49:38):
sort of Boston, Milwaukee, Philadelphia. Two of those three teams
end up in the East Garwards Finals.
Speaker 1 (49:45):
All right, what about the West? I mean, I guess
Phoenix is going to be the somewhat favorite right now
in the West. Although I'd love to see the Lakers
go deep, I don't really have a big, big rooting
interest except that I love to see the Knicks go deep.
But I don't think that's gonna happen. But I want
to see the Lakers go deep because Lebron, because we
may not seem Lebron for many more years, maybe one
more year. That's amazing, I am, I.
Speaker 2 (50:08):
Do sort of one. The Nuggets are quietly about to
sweep the Timberwolves today, and we haven't talked much about
that because the Nuggets playoff success has not been excellent.
But they beat them. But what thirty game one, eleven,
game two, and nine in game three? The game is
tonight at nine thirty pm Eastern. They win this game
(50:31):
time I and they've obviously advanced very quickly, so I
think it probably is the Suns. But I love to
like your Sons of be incredible. You're basically the Sun's.
The problem with the Sons, of course, of course, is
they just have no depth. Right, if one guy gets
hurt or they these guys are playing a lot of minutes,
they have to end series pretty quickly, a seven game
(50:54):
series with tax, right, some of these players a lot,
they play a ton of minutes.
Speaker 1 (50:58):
You're exactly right, you know you talk about the Sons.
And one of those guys that you know you would
pay admission to see, I think it's Devin Booker. And
I was thinking about this the other day because John
Moran scored forty five yesterday and not losing cause against
the Lakers. But it's about exciting players in the NBA.
And over the years they had Doctor j and Lebron
somewhat exciting, Michael of course, Michael Jordan, Alan Iverson, Steph Curry.
(51:20):
But you know, right now you'd have to say that
maybe John Morant and Devin Booker and Steph are the
three most exciting players in the NBA right now. Maybe
I don't know you have any more.
Speaker 2 (51:29):
On that list. What's exciting players in the NBA right now?
Speaker 1 (51:33):
Guys that you just would pay to see.
Speaker 2 (51:36):
I think kat is still there right. When Katie's on,
it's pretty awesome. He's not a flashy I think it's
Devin Booker, right, but like right, and when you see
someone of that size being able to shoot the way
he does and create shots and whatnot, on that list
is probably about right.
Speaker 1 (51:58):
I'm just looking at playoff teams right now and there's
no one really, I mean even a d I'm not
going to put him on that list, you know, as
far as the Bucks are concerned, even Giannis, I wouldn't
say he's exciting. He's a hell of a player to watch.
But maybe Jimmy Butler I might put Jimmy. But but
like you say, just a quiet assassin.
Speaker 2 (52:17):
That's what he is.
Speaker 1 (52:18):
You know, at the end of the day, you look
at the box score. We always scored thirty. How did
he get thirty?
Speaker 2 (52:22):
Right?
Speaker 1 (52:22):
Yes, one of those.
Speaker 2 (52:23):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (52:25):
So other than that, I don't know. But like, there's
no flashy guy. John Morant I think tops that list
kind of in a Michael Jordan category where the guy skies,
he flies, he's over people. Doctor j Iverson Steph is
great too, But other than that, I just and Booker's unreal.
I mean, I just think that that guy comes out there,
He's going to give you thirty almost every night.
Speaker 2 (52:46):
Yeah, yeah, but Booker is the It's hard, I think
to be like the Booker is the third best, but
the third best, third most important player on this team, right,
I mean, like, I just think it's hard to to
be the most exciting when you're not the one, first,
(53:06):
second most important players.
Speaker 1 (53:08):
But do you know what I like about Booker? I
mean there was a question could KD fit into that
lineup with Chris Paul and Booker. You haven't heard any
backlash about that, and I think Booker still gets his point.
Kd's got thirty one yesterday and Paul at nineteen. So
I think they're working out very nicely together.
Speaker 2 (53:26):
No, you're you're right, But I think it's again it's hard.
I guess sometimes when that's not the number one you know,
when he's not the number one option, and.
Speaker 1 (53:35):
That's more that's more ego than anything else, isn't it.
In other words, I want to be the man, but
I think Book is the type of guy like he'd
rather win than be the man, whatever it takes.
Speaker 2 (53:44):
But yeah, I'm with you there. But also when you
have Kevin Durant like you, you have to acquiesce like
there's no oh you know, yeah, you're right.
Speaker 1 (53:52):
Choice right, you're exactly right. It's just like with me
and you. That's what I do to you. I acquiesced
you're the man exactly Yeah.
Speaker 2 (54:00):
It's person you know.
Speaker 3 (54:01):
I have you.
Speaker 2 (54:02):
I have you at knife point under the.

NFL quarterback make the right call? That's next, what will
you do? Well, that's coming right up about twenty one
minutes past the hour of Fox Sports Sunday, Fox Sports Radio.
(54:45):
He's Jeff Schwartz and Andy Furman. And by the way,
in the NFL Big News, the Philadelphia Eagles and their
quarterback Jaalen Hurts they're going to be together now for
a really, really long time five years, two hundred and
fifty five mil, one hundred and seventy nine guaranteed. Believe
it or not. He's the highest paid player in the NFL.
But for how long that's the question, Jeff, Right, how
long will he be? That that goes? Jeff Burrow is
(55:07):
on deck. I got Joe Burrows on deck, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (55:10):
Joe, justin Herbert. So look, I used to feel very
strongly about these contracts. You can't give all that money
to that quarterback. He's not worth it. And then the
next guy just gets more money, and the guy for
that gets more money. It's just it's just the next
guy up, Like in two years, the hurt steal won't
won't be that much money, right because the next guy
(55:31):
up will will be paid. And to your point, Joe
Burrow is gonna get paid next or Justin Herbert, one
of the two, and then it's then deal. Hurts would
no longer be the highest PAI quarterback. It's gonna keep going.
And it always does this, right and then and then
Trevor Lawrence will be next up in two years, and
someone will be next up after that. It just the
way this works. Jalen Hurts has improved throughout his career.
(55:54):
He's shown that right from year basically one, when he
was a starter two years ago to last year leading
a super Bowl team, a super Bowl caliber team obviously
best record at all football last year was the probably
winning the MVP before he got hurt at the end
of last season, and it makes sense to Eagles to
lock him in now, you know, the five years.
Speaker 1 (56:16):
No trade clause, first time ever in history.
Speaker 2 (56:19):
I mean that makes sense obviously. I think you know, ideally,
I think we're seeing the standard set for ideal. Ideal contrast,
the Mahomes deal, ten year deal really is so valuable
for the Chiefs. It allows them so much wiggle room.
You know, five year deal is obviously great for Hurts
(56:41):
and for the Eagles, but you know there's a big
cap hit in year three and four and five. But
nevertheless it's a right route for the Eagles. You secure
your quarterback in the future, which we knew was Jalen Hurts.
You have, you know, the ability now to set up
the rest of your team around that contract. But also
(57:02):
as the draft approaches, it's a good reminder that you
should draft a quarterback till you find your quarterback. Remember
the Eagles had Carson Wentz and drafted Jailer Hurts in
the second round and it created a little bit of
a stir and ended up being correct, right, the end
up being correct, and then it Hurts is better than
Wentz and is their guy in the future. If you're
a team right now who has a quarterback you're not
(57:25):
quite sure about, draft another quarterback. Draft a quarterback till
you find a quarterback. That's the way to do. This
is the most important position in all of sports. Draft
a quarterback until you find a quarterback. So I'm telling
you the team that you know, a team that you
might you know young quarterback somewhere, keep going for it.
(57:48):
Keep drafting those guys until you find the right quarterback.
And that's a good lesson for a lot of teams
in the NFL.
Speaker 1 (57:56):
Well, the Eagles are paying a ton of money to
Jalen Hurts, but if they waited, and I guess this
is the logic, it would be a lot more because
now Justin Herbin and Joe Burrow are looking at chots
because they know their next and they want a probably
be at least as much. It may be more. Right.
Speaker 2 (58:11):
Well, not even that though, is that there's a possibility
that goes to free agency after the year, it'll be
a free agent. They don't have a fifth year option
on them. They could franchise tag them, obviously, But the
thing about it is you don't want teams don't want
to use the franchise tag on quarterbacks because what happens
is you have that big cap pit, right that thirty
(58:32):
or whatever forty one thing, it's like forty million dollars
cap pit immediately in one single season when you have
a big contract, a five year deal, you can spread
over that cap pit. You could choose which years that
you want to use that caphit on right and Eagles
right now are not using it this year. I believe
they're not using it next year, and they're using it
(58:52):
in the year three and four and five when the
cap will continue to go up, so that the cap
number that you choose that year will not be as
bad as this year because the cap is rising. But
also it gives you opportunity now to continue to build
your team up around Jalen Hurts. But that one year
forty million dollars cap pit A it's a big cappit
for one season for one player, but two it doesn't
(59:14):
allow you the flexibility to build up for year two, three,
four and five because you don't have a fixed number
for Hurts. Now the Eagles do. They know exactly what
they're paying him and what he costs, and now you
can build up around them. So the franchise tag is
not Teams don't want to do that. They obviously have
the option they will do that, but it doesn't really
help team building at all.
Speaker 1 (59:35):
Well, yeah, it really does, because now the Eagles cannot
structure their team and their payroll around the rookie deal
for their quarterback. So I guess that would mean that
there's gonna be less money to spread around to our
entire roster.
Speaker 2 (59:50):
Right, Yeah, so it comes down to right, So you know,
it's what the Chiefs have had to do, right, and
it comes down to Okay, Well, if that's the case,
now we have to draft really well, right, which the
Eagles do. So now you need to be able to
find players to contribute to your roster that are rookies. Right.
The Chiefs last year had five rookies. See five, five
(01:00:11):
rookies playing significant numbers on defense last year. Right. Both
their line all three of their linebackers that played the
majority of the time last year on rookie contracts. Right,
you know the offensive line two? Uh to see me?
Three of their five guys were not on extensions yet, right.
Multiple wide receivers and now Mkole Harmon didn't play a
(01:00:33):
lot at the end of the season, but he was
on a rookie deal. Sky Moore on a rookie contract.
Three of their four tight ends were on the rookie contracts.
Their running backs on the rookie contracts. You have to
find these players that can play on those young deals
to go around Patrick Mahomes or go around Jalen Hurts.
So this is why we thought of the draft in
(01:00:53):
now one. This is why the draft is important in
day three is you find a lot of those players,
those depth pieces in those rounds, and you might not
know those players that they're being drafted, you might have
watched them play. But that's where a bulk of like
a Super Bowl championship roster is going to come from.
Is the guys that are drafted rounds four, five, six,
(01:01:14):
and seven, these depth pieces that you need as part
of winning roster, and your quarterback makes so much money.
Speaker 1 (01:01:20):
Interesting. Look, I'm not trying to put a damper on
the situation, but if things were to go wrong with
Jalen Hurts, that certainly limits some flexibility here with this
locked in contract, then.
Speaker 2 (01:01:31):
You just you made a bad deal. Like I don't
think they will though.
Speaker 1 (01:01:35):
Well what would have happened now if they were locked
into Carson Wentz. Think about that. You're screwed, right, And look,
that's why maybe not many quarterbacks have that locked in contract.
They no trade clause. I think it was Derek Carr,
Dak Prescott, Josh Allen, Russell Wilson, and now Deshaun Watson
all have no trade clauses in that contract. Carr got
(01:01:56):
out of it because he's gone now, because he's in Vegas.
Speaker 2 (01:01:59):
Yeah. Look, for the most part, it seems like players
and teams with long term deals figure out a way
to get out of deals. The question is the next
guy is really going to be? Is Colin Murray? His
deal is so large? If the cars can get out
(01:02:20):
of that and move it along. But you know, it
tends to end up sort of working out in the end,
like guys and teams figure out how to move it
along in the end when someone's too expensive of that position.
Speaker 1 (01:02:38):
Interesting, All right, we move along right now ourselves tell
you right now. He's Jeff Schwartz. I'm Andy Furman. This
is Fox Sports Sunday on Fox Sports Radio. Now, Who's
really Who's really and truly the best player in this
year's NFL Draft. I'll tell you what that's going to be.
Next to Fox Sports Sunday Live from the tiraq dot
com studios. But first, here's Steve de Seger with.
Speaker 4 (01:02:58):
The update the NBA Playoffs. The Lakers beat Memphis one
eleven to one oh one. LA's lead after the first
quarter was thirty five to nine. The Grizzlies in that
first period were three of twenty five shooting from the floor. Eventually,
they only lost by ten as John Morant, back from
a bruised hand, had forty five points thirteen assists. In fact,
he scored twenty two straight points for Memphis in the
(01:03:20):
fourth quarter. Lakers up two games to one. Phoenix leads
three games to one after beating the Clippers again one
twelve one ten. Miami ahead of Milwaukee two games to one,
downing the Bucks with ease one twenty one to ninety nine,
and Philadelphia ended its first round series in a sweep,
winning at Brooklyn ninety six eighty eight. To the Stanley
(01:03:40):
Cup playoffs, Vegas won in double overtime rode overtime wins
for both New Jersey and Toronto. Colorado took the late
game six to four at Seattle. Boxing victory for Gervonte Davis,
who keo'ed Ryan Garcia in the seventh round. Live golf
in Australia won by Taylor Gooch this weekend, a three
stroke victory. Sunday's NASCAR five five hundred at Talladega. Will
(01:04:01):
be on Fox TV three pm Eastern time. Jeb Burton
won Saturday Night Sixfinity Race to Baseball. The Dodgers and
Yankees each one. Saturday afternoon, Yanks on a run bottom
of the ninth, three to two over Toronto. Dodgers won
nine to four at Wrigley over the Cubs. Max Munsey
with two more homers he has ten. In fact, he's
hitting nine in the last two weeks. But Tampa Bay
as the best team, going eighteen and three the record.
(01:04:23):
After a ten inning win over the White Sox four
to three, Pittsburgh won its sixth straight game. Baltimore won
its fifth in a row. Miami swept a doubleheader at
Cleveland and at Texas. In the Rangers eighteen to three
win over Oakland, Adolas Garcia had three home runs. He
went five for five, eight RBIs, five runs scored. Kansas
City scored five in the ninth to beat the Angels
(01:04:44):
eleven to eight. That ends the Royal seven game losing streak.
I'm Steve Desager.
Speaker 1 (01:04:48):
Thank you, Steve. Seeing about an hour, but right now
he's coming back. We'll get to that in just about
a minute. We've crossed a fifty isline and we'll be
called Fox Sports Sunday on Fox Sports Ready, He's Jeff

(01:05:10):
and save at Progressive dot com. And I asked this
question early on. I want to go back and address
it again. Would you do what I'm talking about too?
At Tagle Livoa, he said he was thinking about retiring
after those somewhat risky concussions. He's had multiple concussions, and
he said the doctors have told him that he's not
(01:05:30):
at a greater risk of CTE due to past concussions.
I don't get that at all. I'd have to see
who that doctor was. But I asked a question, would
you walk away if it was you? Jeff, I hope
it would never happen. What would you do?
Speaker 2 (01:05:44):
Well? I think everyone you know, it's it's their own
personal decision, obviously, right. And I know he's talked to
doctors and he's made his mind have to keep going.
I mean I probably would keep playing at that age, right,
I mean, young players still you still think you're invincible,
and obviously in cushion are a big part of the
game unfortunately, but you know, there's we have more research
(01:06:06):
on them now, we have you know, better ways to
treat them, and and uh and and heal from them.
And again, if he's able to determine with his doctors
that he's healthy enough to play, then then go. Then
then get after a buddy. I get why he contemplated retirement, right,
I mean, it was scary last year to see what
(01:06:27):
what he went through with his head injuries. And I'm
glad he's doing well enough to play again, But I
see why he contemplated it though it was it was
a rough year for him. Last year.
Speaker 1 (01:06:37):
Miss five games had on a protocol for concussion two times.
But he says now in the offseason he's trained with
a jiu jitsu coach. I guess he still He says
he's a white belt as of April, but the experience
taught him how to distribute his weight and energy while falling.
This could be something new for NFL players. Maybe now
you know, so, would you play a couple of jiu jitsu.
Speaker 2 (01:07:00):
You got a couple of concussions last year when he
fell down and hit the back of his head on
the turf, and one of them wasn't even that vicious
of a hit. And I understand the need to learn
how to fall properly, Like he needs to learn how
to fall so he doesn't hurt his head, doesn't hit
his head on the turf. Is hard. Now, I don't
(01:07:23):
know if he can be taught that though. It feels
like just a tech either something that you that you
you've learned, right, like you've learned how to do this
or not. So I'm curious if if he can be
taught how to not how to not fall and hit
the back of his head on the ground.
Speaker 1 (01:07:41):
I don't I don't think he needed a jiu jitsu coach.
All he has to do is watch an NBA game,
watch these guys flop.
Speaker 2 (01:07:47):
Yeah, it's a good point. He could do that. Yeah,
I'm kidding. I'm curious how this plays out for him
with the with the with the jiu jitsu coach.
Speaker 1 (01:07:56):
Right, Well, we'll see. I wish him he's only twenty
five and an exciting player, but we'll see what happens.
Dan I mentioned, you know, the best players in the
NFL draft. Then you mentioned you know you always draft
for need and maybe draft the best player available. And
I'm looking at a guy from Alabama defensive end Will Anderson.
He may very well be the best player in the draft.
Speaker 2 (01:08:19):
Yeah, so a couple of things. You know, people think
the best player, the best overall player, like regards to position,
is maybe Bejeon Robertson, the running back from Texas, and
you'll put put put positionally positional value wise, you know,
no one's drafting a running back very high anymore because
(01:08:40):
you can find the same production with a running back
in a much you know, lower draft pick right in
the fourth round, fifth round, seventh rout, even right, So
Bijon we drafted in the first round. But there's a
thought of like, hey, you know, is it necessary to
draft him so early even though he might be the
best prospect. Willie Anderson is interesting saying the Alabama pass rusher.
(01:09:01):
I like Will Anderson a lot. His film is fantastic.
He played really well. But there is a thought at
times that Alabama players come to the NFL a little
maxed out, that Nick Stable gets the most out of
them and when they get to the NFL, they're a
little they're a little beat up, and they're their ceiling
has been reached that there's kind of nowhere for them
(01:09:24):
to go. And that might be one of the reasons
why we're seeing a push now for a player like
Tyree Wilson from Texas Tech. The pass rusher different build
sixty six two seventy five Williamson sixty three two fifty
Willison more more production than than Tyree Wilson. But there's
(01:09:47):
a thought that Tyre Wilson is able to He's he
because of his background is rawness. You get him into
your team and there's a huge upside in his ability
because of his talent, where will Anderson is what he is.
He's a polished product already and he's kind of maxed
(01:10:09):
out of his talent. This is what he's gonna be.
And so that's the only issue with with people have
with Alabama players at a time of time, is that
they're kind of maxed with their talent.
Speaker 1 (01:10:17):
Let's talk a little bit about the defensive tackle of
Jalen Carter from Georgia. Was this Georgia team has been
on the top of the defensive polls the last two years,
he's been a major part of it. So he's about
sixty three, about three hundred pounds. This guy, isn't he
Jalen Carter?
Speaker 2 (01:10:30):
He's incredible. Oh he's like no, he's like six six, buddy,
he's huge. Oh oh really, yeah, he's genorous.
Speaker 1 (01:10:35):
But he's a three hundred pounds he's uh.
Speaker 2 (01:10:38):
Oh, three hundred pounds. I think is uh is uh
pretty generous. I don't. I think he's I think he's
a little bit more than a Well look at what
he what he actually is? I think I think he
weighed in and I'm curious what he weighed in at
let's see, well he did weigh sixty three six three
three three or fourteen and then I think is pro
day he ended up being like nearly like eight eight
(01:10:59):
teenpounds heavier. I thought he was talleran sixty interesting, he
plays much taller and six story he's a he is
he's freaking good man. Oh he is a good football player.
He he he uh, he's you know, there was concerns obviously,
the character concerns, right, which I hate that term because
(01:11:20):
I feel like that term when people say character concerns,
this is before obviously we found out about you know
that he was a drag racing. An unfortunate accident happened.
Speaker 1 (01:11:30):
But I don't think it's gonna hurt him.
Speaker 2 (01:11:33):
Uh, it probably won't. But you know when people say these,
you know, generally speaking, they say for draft character concerns,
you think a lot of times you think crime, right,
you think the character concern is some sort of crime
player is committed. And oftentimes it's not right. It's like
they're a bad teammate, or they're you know, they had bad,
(01:11:54):
bad practice habits, or you know, they they they don't
give full effort. They don't prepare the white ray, they
don't you know, they don't. They don't hear to their
nutrition plan. Uh they're overweight, they're underweight. You'll get. It's
a lot about preparation. And people use the term character
(01:12:15):
as a catch all for those things because and excuse.
Speaker 1 (01:12:19):
Me, I think some teams use that as a smoke
screen so another team won't draft them so they can
get them. Oh, well, of.
Speaker 2 (01:12:26):
Course they do. But I'm just saying, when when you
hear draft analysts say this guy's character concerns, it's not
And I equate that with like this guy as a
bad person. It's not often about that now, Jalen Carter.
Obviously there were There was a story came out Tom
McShay early January. Hey, there's character concerns with Jayleen car
(01:12:46):
People rip Todd mcshae. What what are you talking about?
What character concerns? And this is actually nothing to do
with him and the drag racing incident. We just saw
this week where Brady Quinn. We had a SoundBite in
the break about Brady Quinn and c. J. Straud kind
of talking about some reasons he might fall right, and
people people jump on these analysts for saying these things. Remember, guys,
(01:13:10):
there are reasons why players don't go where they're supposed
to be drafted, and there are legitimate reasons and knowledge
of it. And some of them are stupid. Some of
them are as dumb as a scout is pissed because
he didn't go to the Manning Academy, right, Like, Yeah,
they can be that petty. And sometimes we share those
stories as draft analysts. It doesn't mean that we believe
them or we think they're right, but that's sometimes happens
(01:13:34):
is part of the draft process. People get so frustrated
angry when you bring these up. Amazing.
Speaker 1 (01:13:41):
It really is last but not least. As we roll
along here to the NFL right now, as you know,
it's an offensive league, and we talked about two defensive guys,
Will Anderson a jail and Carter. Do you forego a
great defensive player for a guy who get your points?
That's what I like to know right now?
Speaker 2 (01:13:56):
In the draft, do you mean like quarter like?
Speaker 1 (01:13:59):
Do these guys? And the card will fall in the
draft a little bit because you're not at that concern
with defense. You will conserve with scoring points.
Speaker 2 (01:14:05):
But who you mean you're drafting quarterback instead, not even.
Speaker 1 (01:14:09):
A quarterback, but maybe someone of the offensive side of
the receiver.
Speaker 2 (01:14:11):
No, no, no, there's no wide receiver this year. That's
better those two guys. You're drafting those guys instead.
Speaker 1 (01:14:16):
All right, So I wanted to hear you know the man.
I take it for granted, you know it all, and
you do, you really do. He's Jeff Schwartz. I meany furman.
And by the way, the game that takes you around
the world, it's bottom barrel betting. And you know what
it's freaking next, it's bottom You thought you was.
Speaker 2 (01:14:33):
Wany to sleep.
Speaker 1 (01:14:34):
People get my money. I'll put your brain to sleep, betting. Yes,
it is in the MC of all of it. The
bigg A himself is back Ethan Miller.
Speaker 5 (01:14:42):
All right, guys, good to continue the tradition here, Andy,
you went three for two last week. Jeff, you went
two for three.
Speaker 1 (01:14:48):
It's wait an atre you telling me I won?
Speaker 5 (01:14:51):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:14:51):
You want sleep? All right, here we go.
Speaker 1 (01:14:55):
We're gonna go to well, let me just say one thing, okay,
more often than that, you gotta be a gentleman. On
for Jeff Schwartz to congratulate me, but he's more pissed
than congratulations. And I think they were an order. But
it's okay. I get it now. Now I understand you
your psyche and that's good. That's a good thing. Okay.
Speaker 2 (01:15:11):
I'm trying to win.
Speaker 1 (01:15:13):
I get it. I get it.
Speaker 2 (01:15:14):
I only respect you when when you put up forty
on me.
Speaker 1 (01:15:17):
Okay, all right, Dylan, good getting Schwartz.
Speaker 5 (01:15:23):
Dylan Schwartz. All right, Dylan and uh Andy, here we
go World table Tennis. Oh, this is a tough name.
Odd odds. We're just gonna say auto's k versus wang
way pang wang way wang way.
Speaker 1 (01:15:39):
Yeah, Okay, I love, mister Schwartz, I let Dylan go first.
Speaker 2 (01:15:43):
I'm gonna go h one way, all.
Speaker 5 (01:15:47):
Right, wang way for Jeff.
Speaker 1 (01:15:48):
You know, I gotta I don't want to go on
Jeff's back with Dylan's back. I gotta go one with
because I can't pronounce the other guy's name.
Speaker 5 (01:15:55):
So that's a good decision, all right. On the cricket,
we got England versus Australia. England's minus one oh five,
Australia's plus one fifty five, and there's a draw option
at plus five hundred.
Speaker 2 (01:16:10):
Oh are we adding? So we when we do this game?
Were you adding?
Speaker 3 (01:16:13):
Like?
Speaker 2 (01:16:14):
Are you adding the units? Are you just taking like that?
Speaker 5 (01:16:16):
I just want you to know the odds because you know,
I can't find pickums for all of them, but you
know we can maybe we can add that. I can
add units to it. You know.
Speaker 1 (01:16:24):
Are you making it tougher?
Speaker 5 (01:16:25):
Yeah, that's too much.
Speaker 2 (01:16:27):
I'm gonna I'll take Australia.
Speaker 1 (01:16:28):
Then, well you know, I'm gonna take England, and the
only reason being because my great grandfather was from London.
Speaker 5 (01:16:39):
All right, sounds good. I like both of the choices there,
I guess. All right, on to the next we're going darts.
I know you guys are in the darts. We got
Pakistan versus New Zealand. Now you just gotta imagine who
would be better at throwing darts out of the two countries.
Speaker 1 (01:16:57):
I don't want to say it because I don't want
to help them ount so I'm not gonna say I'll
give you my pick.
Speaker 2 (01:17:01):
But Pakistan and New Zealand. Yeah, New Zealand, Okay.
Speaker 1 (01:17:06):
Now why would you say New Zealand's better than darts?
Because I'm going Pakistan. But why would you say that.
Speaker 2 (01:17:11):
I just decided to go to New Zealand, And I asked.
Speaker 1 (01:17:14):
Ethan, well, what did you say, which why would you
think one country is better than the other in I mean,
i'd say Pakistan because kind of like right, I mean,
I got no I don't brush anybody, but.
Speaker 5 (01:17:26):
I got no idea what's going on in Pakistan or
New Zealand.
Speaker 2 (01:17:29):
But you know, you know, I got no How you said, like, like,
guess it will be better at darts, like we would
like have any idea?
Speaker 5 (01:17:36):
Yeah, yeah, right, I'm like I don't know, Like I
don't even know who's good in the United States.
Speaker 1 (01:17:41):
It was like a trick question I'm going Pakistan.
Speaker 5 (01:17:45):
All right, you guys are split on that one. We're
moving on the handball, okay, yes, I know, all right,
we got I f k Christian Stadd and this is.
Speaker 1 (01:17:56):
A guy's name.
Speaker 5 (01:17:57):
No, this is a team and I think together, Yeah, yeah,
come on, I and then versus I K sab hoof.
Now this is a German league, so you know, I
don't know if that means anything to you guys, but
here we go.
Speaker 2 (01:18:10):
I tell you what.
Speaker 1 (01:18:10):
I'm a handball above. So I gotta ask you is
it indoor handball or outdoor?
Speaker 3 (01:18:14):
Uh?
Speaker 5 (01:18:15):
You know, I didn't look into that.
Speaker 1 (01:18:17):
I believe I assume it's indo you.
Speaker 2 (01:18:21):
I don't know if it's.
Speaker 5 (01:18:21):
If they have like retractable roofs in their stadiums.
Speaker 2 (01:18:24):
But I pull up I pull up a handball clip
from the real Olympics on on YouTube here. It's quite yeah. Uh,
it's like basketball soccer combined.
Speaker 5 (01:18:40):
They can kick it No, it's not.
Speaker 2 (01:18:43):
No, they can't kick it out things, so it's more
like But the gameplay, it's like a basketball soccer looking thing.
The way they spread things out playing a court field thing.
Speaker 5 (01:18:52):
Interesting.
Speaker 2 (01:18:53):
Well, the goalie can use his legs to stop stuff.
Speaker 5 (01:18:57):
So uh, Christian stad or sav Hoff Andy, you're Jeff.
Speaker 2 (01:19:03):
The second.
Speaker 1 (01:19:06):
Christian stuff, Christians.
Speaker 5 (01:19:08):
Christian Statt, it's gotta stop.
Speaker 1 (01:19:10):
I'm sorry, Christian stat all right, I got it.
Speaker 2 (01:19:14):
All right. On to.
Speaker 5 (01:19:17):
Volleyball. That's exciting, right, that's more up your guys.
Speaker 1 (01:19:20):
Speed women.
Speaker 5 (01:19:22):
Uh, it's actually women and it's in Germany and actually
it's on DraftKings believe.
Speaker 2 (01:19:32):
It or not.
Speaker 5 (01:19:33):
Sorry, I mean sponsored them there, but yeah it is. Anyway,
we got how Bank minus two and a half verse
Arca spore plus two and a half. You just say,
h r A.
Speaker 2 (01:19:50):
I took. I took a big underdog earlier. I'll go
with a big favorite today.
Speaker 1 (01:19:54):
I'll take h okay, h you know, you gotta know
the back. You gotta know if they late earlier in
the week, who's rested, who's.
Speaker 2 (01:20:02):
Not gonna going to go with a on the other
team and watch.
Speaker 1 (01:20:08):
Their little load management in my arcaspar here.
Speaker 2 (01:20:11):
Yeah, you're you're in trouble.
Speaker 1 (01:20:13):
Yeah you're good?
Speaker 2 (01:20:14):
All right?
Speaker 3 (01:20:14):
Is that it?
Speaker 5 (01:20:15):
No? I got one more if you want it, hurry up,
all right, we got we got tennis. We'll go tennis.
Speaker 1 (01:20:20):
Uh Holger versus bow tick jeffick Holder Holger Holger, that's Holger,
all right. More than stay with us, lock it in
one close out and another team still has some life
that's coming right up. Welcome, Welcome, Welcome. It's Fox Sports
Sunday on Fox Sports Radio. He's Jeff Schwartz, Iman Deferman
(01:20:41):
a bit broadcasting live from the ti raq dot com studios.
Tyrack dot com. We'll help you get there and unmatched
selection fans, free shipping, free road hazard protection, and over
ten thousand recommended installers tyrack dot com the way tire
buying should be. And here he is, the man himself, Dylan,
Jeff Schwartz, how are you?
Speaker 2 (01:21:02):
We did both go to Oregon so that that kind
of works out for me. I wish there were sports
on right now, Like I wish there was, Like I
just feel like it'd be found out there was some
sort of like am sports on the watch now.
Speaker 1 (01:21:13):
I'm with you, I'm with you right there. You know,
you talk about Dylan Brooks and the guy got ejected
last night three for thirteen from memphisis they lose to
the Lakers win eleven one oh one. We talk more
about these clowns than we talk about Anthony David scoring
thirty one and pulling down seventeen boards and Lakers still alive,
and they had five guys and double figures. Reeve's had thirteen,
(01:21:36):
Lebron at twenty five and nine. But that's that's the
way sports is now again.
Speaker 2 (01:21:40):
Isn't it? Because look, I like basketball. I watched my
whole life. I played basketball all the way till I
went to college, played all through high school. It was
a youth and whatnot. But no one's coming on the
radio to listen to me talk about the Lakers pick
and roll and how they fight, like you know, like
that's not like, like that's not what I do, right, Like,
(01:22:02):
the story is is Dylan Brooks. The story is Lebron James.
The story is Anthony Davis big pictures, not the individual
plays in the game right specifically, And it's about Dylan
Brook's getting injected after talking all that smack about Lebron
and then not being able to back it up, which
of course we knew he wasn't gonna be able to do.
It's not him poking the bear. That is Lebron James,
(01:22:22):
which again, you know, as athletes, we know there's certain
players that you don't do that too. I knew there
were scouting reports for defensive linemen that we played that
it was, hey, look, don't get this guy upset, like
he plays different when he's angry, right, don't give him
(01:22:45):
a reason to be angry at you. With Lebron James,
I feel like the Grizzlies kind of had the Lakers
where they wanted them. The Lakers didn't play well in
Game two. Now, I think the Lakers would have won
this game regardless of the comments from Dylan Brooks. But
you had a a he didn't play table one. Game two.
Lebron didn't play terribly well, and he's kind of been
(01:23:06):
pacing himself in game one and two. You do not
have John Morant, and you beat the Lakers, and then
you just go out and say all these things about
Lebron and you knew the Lakers entire team was gonna
feel that they got out to a thirty five to
nine lead and the game was over right and then
and there, And I think, by the way, this is
gonna last in game four, in Game five and game six.
(01:23:29):
Every game now, the motivation is going to be to
get after the Grizzly because of what Dylan Brooks said.
Speaker 1 (01:23:35):
Now, my question is this do you put a finger
of the blame here? I know Dylan Brooks is a
little off the wall, but do you say what about
his coach? Can his coach control this guy?
Speaker 2 (01:23:49):
I mean he's an adult.
Speaker 1 (01:23:54):
Relationship.
Speaker 2 (01:23:55):
Yeah, but you really it's hard to control what your
players say to the media, especially when they talk to
the media as often as NBA players do, right, I
mean NFL players, we don't talk to the media as often. Right,
we have less opportunities. NBA players talk to media every night, right,
And I think it's just really difficult to make sure
(01:24:16):
Brooks doesn't say anything he says. Plus again, you know,
the Grizes are a slight underdog, and sometimes when you're underdog,
you do feel like, okay, maybe we can we can
ratle the cage at the favorite by talking trash. Lebron
is just the wrong guy to do that too, because
he can make you pay in ways other players cannot.
And then to add on to it, when Dylan Brooks
hits Lebron on the growing last night, it gets ejected.
(01:24:37):
You look like a punk, Right, he's a punk move.
You talk all this trash a you don't back it
up what you're playing on the court b you say
you don't respect Lebron to put some forty on you. Look,
you might not like Lebron, you might not like his game,
you might not like him personally, but you have to
respect what he's done. And when you say you don't
(01:24:59):
respect him, so he puts up is a really awkward
thing to say. It's a it's a bad trash talk
thing to say, like, we're like, what are you say it, dude?
And then you don't back it up with your seven
points and getting injected by hitt him in the groin.
You look like a punk, dude. So, I mean it
was expected. I think I thought the Lakers were going
to roll, and they did. And we can all laugh
(01:25:19):
at Dylan books now.
Speaker 1 (01:25:20):
Right, and speaking about somebody who says something that really
means something. I'm going to go back to Doc Rivers,
the coach of the seventy six as they eliminated the
Brooklyn Nets yesterday. But Doc said this on Friday. He
said that basically he thought that Draymond Green should not
have been suspended when he had his foot on the
Sibonis's chest. And he did say after that that Draymond
Green stepped on the guy's chest because Sibonis was holding
(01:25:43):
his foot, the instigator was holding his foot, and he
said that we're gonna start punishing the retaliators, not the instigators.
We got a problem, and look the league right now.
He got Joel Embiid he kicked someone on the nets.
I think Claxton he kicked over there, and James Harden
basically was hitting the hanging downs. It's crazy. Is it
officiating on lack there is? Or maybe the officials are
(01:26:05):
afraid to call technicals because you call too many technicals.
The guys around and the fans want to see these
guys play, So it's crazy.
Speaker 2 (01:26:12):
Well, I think a couple of things are true. The
playoffs are a lot more physical than the regular season,
right and the regular season in basketball is to me,
is not even the same sport as the postseason. And
so you have these players that play a certain prand
in basketball for the first eighty two games, and they
(01:26:34):
get to the playoffs when things are more intense, and
it is everyan's magnified, and all of a sudden, now
the emotions are higher, there's more physical basketball. You're playing
in these series when you're playing the same team over
and over again, and there becomes a physicality to the
(01:26:55):
game that you didn't have in the first eighty two games. Now,
these things that happened fifth teen years ago, no one
gets suspended for them, right, No one gets made flagrant one.
I don't know, nothing really happens, right. But because we
never see this anymore, because that's the way the game
is played now, especially in the regular season. No one's
kicking each other, no one's even Look even the the
(01:27:17):
the dreamond Green kick wasn't that bad. It was a
kick to the chest though. He wasn't like it was.
He wasn't held down. He wasn't held down by Sibonis
like he could have. It wasn't like he was unable
to move his leg. It was a light tug by Sibonis.
The retaliation was, you know, em beat. I thought, I mean,
(01:27:38):
you can make the argument, yeah, he should be thrown
out for kicking someone in the groin, eve though I
think he missed the groin. So, but these are things
that we don't see this physical play in the in
the regular season, and so when it happened in the postseason,
when when someone gets their leg held up, when someone
gets stood over, the reaction is so emotional because you
(01:27:58):
haven't seen it all season long and will freak out.
And that's what we're seeing now. Players aren't used to
physicality and they.
Speaker 1 (01:28:07):
Have the officials perhaps correct.
Speaker 2 (01:28:10):
And they end up having I think, to what we're saying,
that kind of a little bit of a I don't
know what to do with ourselves emotional kind of emotional freakout.
Speaker 1 (01:28:20):
Well, I like what Doc says on according of my
nice say is if I'm at a park and if
I'm going to make this point and you stood over me,
we're going to have a problem. I didn't grow up
in the Sticks and Stones era. I grew up in
the Break the Bones era, so it's a little different.
So I guess that you know you're gonna stop, You're
gonna stop.
Speaker 2 (01:28:36):
It's like it is, you know, the the physical part
of the game was it just was a lot more
of the game when when Doc was playing, right and
then when he was a young coach. Right. It's not
part of the game now, so when it does happen,
it's so shocking to us.
Speaker 1 (01:28:52):
I mean, it really is. I'll tell you another problem
of the game that I have, and I love it that.
Charles Barkley said it. They start too damn late. Do
you agree? I mean, even like last night, come on
ten o'clock Eastern time, you watching. That was the best
game of the day. I mean it had the most hype.
It really did. The Laker game and that was I
was start that day thirty five to seven in the
(01:29:14):
first quarter. But Charles said that Charles got some cloud.
He's got a stage. He works for TNT, so he
could tell TNT and those people, hey start them because
the games have decided on TV time. Tell him start
them a little earlier.
Speaker 2 (01:29:28):
Yeah, I was sleeping.
Speaker 1 (01:29:30):
That's tough.
Speaker 2 (01:29:32):
I mean I think, I think what tonight they're at
Let's see here, they start at one tonight, so let's
see today they're at one three thirty. Since they do
this big kind of gap, it should be like one,
three thirty six and then eight thirty, but they go one,
three thirty seven, nine thirty.
Speaker 1 (01:29:53):
Maybe they shouldn't have four games in a day. I
know it's the weekend, Saturday and Sun. They didn't want
to get four in there, but maybe they shouldn't. Ad again,
we talked of this ad nauseum that maybe they should
have three out of five series because this is the
first series, which is probably the worst series really, and
it's gone a second week already.
Speaker 2 (01:30:07):
I think last night too.
Speaker 5 (01:30:08):
Though.
Speaker 2 (01:30:09):
The reason why the game was so late was because
the Clippers also play in the Stables center and they
had to switch the quarter around. Yeah, they put the
same day this has happened, so they had to kind
of they need a talk between the end of one
game to get ready for the second game. I mean
they had to switch out the entire floor.
Speaker 1 (01:30:27):
You know what I was thinking about when I heard
that when they both games from in the same building,
how many kids would go to the toilet and hide
and try to stay for the second game. Because I remember,
back when I was in college, they had a close
circuit boxing match. It was no pay for review back
then that close circuit had to pay for a movie theaters,
and my school had a close circuit boxing championship. I
(01:30:48):
forgot who was probably Muhammad Ali, And I remember I
snuck in this and held and stayed in the toilet
untill they after school and until the start the start
of the fight. So I didn't have to pay, But
I wonder how many kids stayed in that Staples said
through I watched the second game.
Speaker 2 (01:31:02):
Well, the problem is, and you have to have a
ticket to sit somewhere the second.
Speaker 1 (01:31:05):
Game, Well, you could walk around, stay at the concession stand.
You know, there's the way and there's always empty seas.
Speaker 2 (01:31:13):
Yeah, last time it was it was the first Lakers
playoff game at home in ten years. I don't think
there are many empty seats yesterday. But yeah, I guess
technically you could do that. But uh, but that's the
part of the reason why I was so late yesterday,
was at the again to fuck the arena right, put
the Lakers court on, which you know, just just piecing
it to piecing it on, adding a couple of new banners,
(01:31:33):
cleaning up, you know, clean up the arena ull trash,
and then loading the concession stands up again and getting
ready for the second game of the day. There you go.
Speaker 1 (01:31:41):
Okay, today we're talked about the game's Cavaliers Knicks, and
I'm really surprised that Cavalists goes seventy nine points for that.
That's shame on you, that's unheard of. That's that's a
pox on you. Seventy nine points in the NBA. You
deserve to lose. Come on, Really, was the Knicks defense
that good? I don't think o, No, it's just a
(01:32:02):
bad night for Cleveland.
Speaker 2 (01:32:03):
This series. To me, I've watched a little bit of
it because it's been kind of the early game most weeknights.
It's like seven o'clock. It's like the game they just
want to get over with, right, right, Like it's like
the game they're like, yeah, like, let's just get this
one over with. You know, there's just not a lot
of national interest in this contest, right, there's no real
star power.
Speaker 1 (01:32:22):
I mean, you got Donovan and they have Donovan Mitchell.
But other than that, I mean and the Knicks, but
there's no real star They got some good players, but
Brunson I love, but there's no real stars.
Speaker 2 (01:32:35):
Yeah, and that's that's probably why. Plus, you know it's
in the other series in the Eastern Conference, there's one team,
whether whether Boston, Milwaukee or the Sixers, that we watch thinking, okay,
well this team is going to be in the Eastern
Conference finals. Right, So there's like a little bit of
(01:32:57):
of like advanced watching, right, advanced scouting, where the Knicks
and and in Calves, we don't assume they're getting pasted
the second round, right, So, like I want so to me,
I want. I'm not investing as much emotional energy in
those two teams because they're not going to be there
past you know, two more weeks of basketball.
Speaker 1 (01:33:18):
You know, you make a great point, and these is
gonna be the Boston, Philadelphia, Milwaukee coming out of there.
But you know what, it's not about talent right now,
It's gonna be who's the healthiest because without the honest
Milwaukee's going to be in trouble, Without Joel Embiid, Philadelphia
be in trouble, and Boston right now looks like they're
fairly healthy.
Speaker 2 (01:33:34):
Uh yeah, So it's about and oftentimes this time of year,
it's less about who is the best and more about
who's the healthiest. And also right football, especially basketball based
lesson baseball, but it is often just like who's the
(01:33:55):
most healthy, and right now we're seeing it with with Embiid,
you should be back for the next round, but with
Yanna specifically, how much that's hurting right now for the Bucks.
We saw the Clippers and Kawhi and Paul George. It's injury.
It's injuries matter. Right.
Speaker 1 (01:34:15):
Let's talk a little bit about Golden State because they
were down in a hole against Sacramento they're coming back
right now, they play today. There's some life, But you know,
there's something inside me that says, I'd like to see
the underdog like Sacramento take them in that series. And
I think it's good for the league that maybe one
team doesn't dominate, which is a silly thing to say,
because for so many years that Boston Celtics back in
(01:34:36):
the day, they would win it year in and year out.
But you want to see a change.
Speaker 2 (01:34:41):
This game, this series going is going seven. The Warriors
are something like eleven and thirty five on the road.
There are troaches on the road. This is the classic
series we've seen sometimes in the NBA that's happened as
much lately, where the home team wins the first six games. Right,
So it's gonna be three three three, going back to
(01:35:03):
Sacramento for Game seven, and then anything can happen in
Game seven, Right, That's what it feels like to me.
The Wars are seven and a half point favorites tonight
against the Canader Today against the Kings. Draymond Green is back.
You know, when Steph is being Steph. No one's the
Warriors ever. But I think the Warriors do win today
and then again Sacramento wins. I think it's a what
(01:35:26):
two one? Right? Two is a series? Yeah? And then
the Kings win, the Warriors win in the game seven.
Man like they say it's anyone's game in game seven,
and then I you know, in game seven, actually lean
toward the experienced Warriors in a Game seven.
Speaker 1 (01:35:41):
I'm with you there, and you know, and there's something
to be said about a team that hasn't been there,
has that that playoff experience. I mean playing on the
big stage. I think that and you could explain that
a little bit as a pro player in the NFL.
When you play on Monday night football, the adrenaline is
a little different than playing on Sunday afternoon.
Speaker 2 (01:35:59):
Oh absolutely, And that's why I think being there is
important and having that feeling, that energy like game seven energy.
Let's say they get to game seven, Yeah, the Kings
will be at home. That we lighten the beam by
the energy in that place is going to be something
that never felt before. And so the words are gonna
have been there many many times.
Speaker 1 (01:36:19):
Right there, we go, all right, and so have you?
So we talk about that. We'll give you our Twitter
account at get Jeff at Jeff Schwartz, Geoff Schwartz at
Andy Furman FSR or eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox.
If you want to give us a call, that translates
to eight seven seven nine nine six sixty three sixty nine.
And we have the blame game at the end of
this hour. But right now, the big argument is all
(01:36:41):
about this position, and we're going to talk about it
next and without one we'll get to that end just
about a minute. Of course, he's Jeff Schwartz, I'm Andy Furman,
and we are broadcasting from the tiraq dot com studio.
I want to listen to Stevie Won. That's why, all right,
we move along right now Thursday and that big night
(01:37:01):
for the Schwartzman because it's the draft and you'll be
zeroing in on that. There's no doubt about that. I
say you nothing with that one. Obviously, we're gonna talk
about quarterbacks because a team that does not have a quarterback,
there's a good chance, a real good chance, you'll be
watching the playoffs on TV with us. That's what you're
gonna do. So we talk about the quarterbacks in the
draft and let's rank them if we can, and talk
about Bryce Young, who had five ten getting the rap
(01:37:24):
as the undersized pass it. But he is the Heisman winner.
What do you do? Is he the number one quarterback
in the draft, mister Schwartz, Yeah, he has.
Speaker 2 (01:37:31):
Number one quarterback in the draft. He is. He had
the best film and look. Some of the discussion about
his processing and the stories about his processing have been remarkable.
I mean, they say he is one of the I'm
gonna pull up right now. They say he's one of
the most. He scored very high on this S two
(01:37:55):
cognitive test, which is supposedly given to the players sort
of like a Wonderlook but just better, a better Wonderlook
type test. Here is right here. Sports Illustrated wrote this,
uh this uh, this piece about about Bryce Young included
this here I'll read out to you. When Young was
Alabama coordinator's coaches, he could see the field so well
(01:38:17):
that the Tide Alabama scrapped a lot of their run
pass option concepts and installed more professional style reads. The
same coach said that Young was handed a thick packet
every Sunday that detailed the entire game plan for the
following Saturday. By Monday morning, he had digested it and
would offer suggestions for altering protections and adjusting routes. When
(01:38:38):
the QB's time at Alabama was done, Bill O'Brien, who's
now with the Patriots as their offense coordinator, told Kevin Pearson,
Young's old coach at Cathedral High that the two smartest
players that he's ever coached were Bryce Young and Tom Brady.
Speaker 1 (01:38:55):
Really yeah, wow, no, so the reports. I did some research, Yes,
he said. Next, he's an expert at making quick decisions,
and he says he meets or exceeds many of the
standards to be a very good starting quarterback. So I
got to believe that he is, as you say, the
number one quarterback in the draft. But I guess right
on his heels would be CJ. Stroud of Ohio State
six three two fourteen. Question on him is canny handle pressure?
(01:39:20):
He looked very good against Georgia in the College Football
Playoffs semi finals, but they say that he has a
problem handling pressure. Well, who doesn't.
Speaker 2 (01:39:31):
Well, I think the thing with with with Stroud is
you had the Georgia game right where he played so well.
In that playoff game. He was able to move, he
was able to just make throws on the run and
just he looked like the best quarterback in the country.
(01:39:55):
The issue with Stroud is that that's now we look
like the other two years he played college football, and
you have to figure out, well, which what kind of
which one is it? Right? Like, is it the Georgia CJ.
Stroud or is it the CJ. Stroud that we saw
the other twenty games he played? That is that's the problem.
(01:40:19):
And because the Georgia CD Stroud was incredible, was really
really good, and he was mobile too. Yeah. Again, so
you got to figure out which what Todays Strowd you're getting?
Speaker 1 (01:40:31):
Well, maybe he's come to maybe he's growing as a
quarter I mean, you just don't know. It's a chance
you take. But again, a team that needs a quarterback,
they're gonna draft him. And if he's available early on,
absolutely yes, absolutely, yes, Okay, we move along. I guess
the next quarterback in question would be Anthony Richardson. Great size, right,
six ' four, about two forty. But the bad news
(01:40:52):
is out of Florida, he's only played one year, so
you really don't know what he's got to give you.
But as far as God given ability, he's got a
four point four speed. That's great.
Speaker 2 (01:41:03):
Yeah, he's he is a big boomer bus prospect like
he has, you know, think like I think Josh Allen.
But yeah, I just it's it's unlikely that he's gonna
like be as good, right, I mean, like Josh Allen's
an outwier right where like his college tape looks like
Anthony Richardson and then he ends up being really good
(01:41:24):
in the NFL. A lot of those guys look good
and then end up just not being as good.
Speaker 1 (01:41:31):
You know, does the does the pedigree when I say
that the school he played for make a difference, because
Josh Allen went to Wyoming, which is not really known
as a football power where Anthony.
Speaker 2 (01:41:42):
Richardson, No, I mean Pat mahomes with a Texas Tech.
I mean it matters.
Speaker 1 (01:41:49):
That's a great story because he had a losing record
as a senior at Texas Tech.
Speaker 2 (01:41:52):
Yeah, I don't think it matters. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:41:54):
Oh, And then we move along to Kentucky's own Will
Levis and uh of questions on him, and I guess
size is okay, six four about two thirty, but very
erratic as far as his accuracy is concerned.
Speaker 2 (01:42:10):
I mean there's talk about him going like second overall now,
which feels absolutely insane to me.
Speaker 1 (01:42:18):
Why why the growth with him?
Speaker 2 (01:42:22):
Just the same thing. People convince themselves that he can
be something that he's not. I guess I don't see
it with him. I have no idea.
Speaker 1 (01:42:31):
To me, he'd be more of a project, even more
so than Richardson exactly.
Speaker 2 (01:42:34):
Yes, I agree.
Speaker 1 (01:42:36):
Interesting, but those four probably will go in the first round.
Speaker 2 (01:42:40):
Yeah, those four might go in the top fifteen. The
question the answer Richardson, I'm really curious about its like,
is there a team I've seen him mock to the Patriots.
I've seen him mocked the Titans to the Vikings, Like,
is there a team with a quarterback now that says, look,
(01:43:00):
we either are you know, Kirk Cousins, let's say, you
know he's there for one more year, Mac Jones with
the Patriots. I don't know if we quite are sold
on him quite yet. You know, is there a team
that's willing that like has a quarterback that's sort of
like not they're not sold on yet and they just
take a flyer in Richardson because he's he has the
(01:43:21):
ability to be that good. That makes sense.
Speaker 1 (01:43:24):
But but in today's NFL, they don't have these quarterbacks
holding the clipboard anymore in the sidelines, you draft them
and play him.
Speaker 2 (01:43:32):
Yeah, but you can. I mean, if you're like if
you are the Vikings, you can wait a year, Like
let Cousins finish this, see her out.
Speaker 1 (01:43:40):
You know, I hear what you're saying.
Speaker 2 (01:43:41):
Well, we'll do he can't.
Speaker 1 (01:43:43):
All right, He's Jeff Schwartz. I'm Andy Furman. This is
Fox Sports Sunday on Fox Sport's stunning. Now now get ready,
it's time for our top five picks for Thursday night.
But first, he's a number one pick anywhere, anytime. Isaac
Low on Crime with the update. Oh much of appreciated.
Speaker 7 (01:44:00):
Good morning, fellas, and we'll start with the NBA playoffs
on Saturday night as the Los Angeles Lakers defeat of
the Memphis Grizzlies won eleven to one to one for
a two games to one lead. The Lakers led thirty
five to nine after the first quarter. Anthony Davis thirty
one points and seventeen rebounds. John Moran scored forty five
for Memphis. Dylan Brooks of the Grizzlies was ejected for
(01:44:21):
committing a flagrant foul penalty two on Lebron James in
the third quarter. James, by the way, finished with twenty
five points, nine rebounds, and five assists. Brooks declined to
speak to reporters after the game, So in lieu of that,
let's hear what Dylan Brooks had to say about Lebron
after Game two.
Speaker 2 (01:44:38):
I don't care, he's old. I pulled bears. I don't
respect no one until they come and give me forty Well.
Speaker 1 (01:44:48):
As they say on social media, that did not age well.
Speaker 7 (01:44:51):
Also Saturday night, Miami over Milwaukee won twenty one to
ninety nine. That he takes the two games to one lead.
Stanley Cup Playoffs Saturday night, Dougie Hamilton's overtime goal gave
it the New Jersey Devils a two to one victory
over the Rangers, who still lead the series two games
to one. The Colorado Avalanche what against Seattle over the
Krock in six to four. Colorado takes the two games
to one lead. Boxing Saturday night, Gervonte Davis defeated Ryan
(01:45:14):
Garcia via TKO in the seventh round. Finally, in Major
League Baseball, Saturday night, the Kansas City Royals rallied for
five runs at the top of the ninth thning to
beat the Angels in Anaheim, eleven to eight Fellas back
to you.
Speaker 1 (01:45:27):
Thank you, Isaac the big I lo Okay, now this
is gonna be uh put down in stone for Thursday
night our picks. I will see what happens next Sunday.
Who is correct? I'm sure I'll be losing this as well.
But just to get started, okay. By the way, we're
brought to you by Progressive Insurance. Progressive makes bundling easy
and affordable. Got a multi policy discount by combining you
(01:45:48):
have motorcycle, RV, boat, ATV and more, all your protection
in one place. Bundle and save at Progressive dot com.
Are you ready, Dylan Schwartz, are you ready for this?
I am yes, okay, and we got the playing game
coming up a seventy eight minutes from now. I'm going
to make my first pick for Thursday night, and the
Carolina Panthers getting the pick from the Chicago Bears. They
will be drafting Bryce Young, the quarterback out of Alabama.
(01:46:12):
I'm running that down next Sunday will be here and
I'll put that in your face. Well that's now why
I sound like Dylan Brooks. I'm with you all right,
Oh you are oyah, the second. Okay, you take the
second pick then, okay.
Speaker 2 (01:46:27):
So I'm going with will Anderson the Texans. So there's
enough smoke out there. The Texans are not drafting a quarterback,
and there are from people that that you should trust,
that know that, that know the Texans, and that know
what they're thinking. And now there could be a couple
(01:46:50):
of things. One it could be a smoke screen because look,
NFL people will tell you, we'll tell you we don't
listen to the media. Okay, yeah they do. They all
listen to the media. And if the Texans are saying, hey,
we're not taking a quarterback, that's also a sign of hey,
(01:47:12):
call us for a trade, right, call us for the
second pick. You can take CJ. Stroud, Will Levis, Anthony Richardson.
So I think there's a chance that, yeah, you know what,
that that goes in that direction where they trade the
pick and they take someone times a quarterback. If they
stay there, I am going with WILLI Anderson as a
(01:47:32):
second pick on the draft.
Speaker 1 (01:47:34):
It's a hell of a pick, but it's a bold pick.
It's a risky pick, but i'mgoing with the Houston Texans,
the second pick out of Ohio out of the Ohio
State University quarterback CJ. Straup because this team has been
lacking direction for such a long freaking time, and they
got a new coach and Ryan's Demachi Ryans, and I
think they want to get a guy to place him
(01:47:54):
under center for the next several years. You know as
well as I do. You've taught me this that you
nothing without a quarterback. They need a quarterback.
Speaker 2 (01:48:02):
C J.
Speaker 1 (01:48:03):
Stroud he's the guy Houston.
Speaker 2 (01:48:05):
Yeah, I just there's not really any signs that the
Houston Texans likes c J. Stroud. Really, that's the that's
the that's the only concern. I just it just seems
to not be. It just doesn't seem to be much
much there. I just and there's you know, there's there's
(01:48:29):
anonymous you know reports out that you know, there's so
Deshaun Watson's agent, the one who helped force him out
of Houston, is also the same agent as that represents
c J. Stroud. And there's a discussion that maybe there's
some animosity but between the Texans and that agent, and
(01:48:50):
they won't drive c J. Stroud now, to be fair,
if the Texans view him as a franchise changing quarterback,
if you pass on him because you don't like the agent, stupid.
So I hope they don't do that. But if they,
if they're only like lukewarm on him, the agent would
surely turn them off of drafting him. There's not a
lot of smoke with that decision. So I'm curious if
(01:49:11):
they go that direction.
Speaker 1 (01:49:13):
All right, there you go. I'll let you go with
the number three pick in the draft, which would be
the Arizona Cardinals.
Speaker 2 (01:49:18):
So if I have Houston taking Will Anderson, then I
have Arizona taking Tyree Wilson, the pass rusher from Texas Tech.
But I think they would love to trade out of
number three. They have so many holes in their roster
that I think they would love loved he out of
three and end up with more draft picks. But if
(01:49:41):
they stay there, I'll go seej I'll go see Jay.
Assume me I'll go with Tyree Wilson in three.
Speaker 1 (01:49:48):
Well, I'm with you because they need defensive help. They
need a lot of help, but they need defensive line.
I may be mistaken here, but didn't I hear somewhere
that their Pro Bowl safety but a Baker. He wants out.
Speaker 2 (01:49:56):
He wants out of the Yeah, he's doing the same
thing that all these guys do. He's like instagram of
their uh of the Arizona time.
Speaker 1 (01:50:04):
But they got a new coach and Jonathan Gannon, so
I think they go defensively. And since you had Will
Anderson gone, I'm going with Will Anderson Junior, the defensive
end of Alabama. Number three to the Arizona Cardinals.
Speaker 2 (01:50:15):
Okay, I like it all right?
Speaker 1 (01:50:18):
Number four? You want me to go four? Now? Fourth pick?
Speaker 2 (01:50:21):
O take?
Speaker 1 (01:50:21):
Okay, fourth pick Indianapolis Colts. They're going for a quarterback.
They haven't had one since Andrew Luck. Anthony Richardson, the
quarterback out of Florida, and I think that pick is
gonna be made by their ownA. Jim irsay, because he
wants to win, he wants a quarterback, and I think
if he tells his people he wants Richardson, that's the guy.
Speaker 2 (01:50:40):
So my mock draft, I have him taking CJ. Stroud
because I think that he'll still be there at four,
and you have him obviously being drafted second. So I
think they're going quarterback, right.
Speaker 1 (01:50:50):
No doubt about it.
Speaker 2 (01:50:51):
Yeah, no matter what. Yeah, so we agree, Annoy. I
will say, though, I will say there's a scenario where
I think on draft day we hear the Colts have
maybe traded for Lamar Jackson. Reason, well, it's it feels
a look the back of my brain like a little
(01:51:11):
bit of Colts like, you know, Jim, like we need
a quarterback, like go make it happen.
Speaker 1 (01:51:15):
You know, it's funny you mentioned we haven't mentioned his
name once, or we haven't mentioned Aaron Rodgers name once today,
which is a good.
Speaker 2 (01:51:21):
Thing, I know. But we can we can, we can
continue not talking toot Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 1 (01:51:24):
Right, but let's let's mention Lamar Jackson for a second.
Charles Barkley came out with something just the other day
on some guy's podcast. I forgot who it was, and
he says that Lamar, you're playing with fire. Uh, these guys,
they're going to back you in there. Sign it. Sign
sign the deal right now at your office. So maybe
Lamar signs the deal prior to the draft. Maybe Charles
(01:51:46):
Barkley gets in his head a little bit.
Speaker 2 (01:51:50):
Well the deal, No, I don't. I don't think the
mark tigns with the Ravens before it before I mean,
if a trade happens, it's that's what happens.
Speaker 1 (01:51:57):
But not not a deal with the Ravens really, So
he's finished with the Ravens. I mean, does a player
get bad blood with the team saying you know you
screwed me over you waited so long, I don't want
to be with you anymore.
Speaker 2 (01:52:12):
But in this specific situation, again, Lamar is the is
the is acting, is the agent. So the Ravens are
telling him to his face they don't like him, like
as much as he thinks they should like him.
Speaker 1 (01:52:23):
There's no buffer in between him and the book, which
is the agent.
Speaker 2 (01:52:25):
This is the point of the agent.
Speaker 1 (01:52:28):
Interesting, while there's mother's the agent.
Speaker 2 (01:52:31):
Right, even worse a we don't like your son as
much as you think.
Speaker 1 (01:52:36):
They hit. Go all right, the number five pick, mister Schwartz.
That will be the Seattle Seahawks from the Denver Broncos.
Speaker 2 (01:52:43):
Jalen Carter defensive tackle Georgia.
Speaker 1 (01:52:47):
Okay, we're on the same page. They need defense, but
I'm going with the guy that you already selected, Tyree Wilson,
the defensive end out of Texas Tech. Okay, so we
do know that the names that we've thrown at out there,
they're gonna be top five names that maybe it juggled
around on different teams, but we at least picked the
top five names.
Speaker 2 (01:53:07):
Yes, I think the only one you didn't have was
Jayleen Carter, but it basically had, you know, basically the top.
You know, I didn't have Anthony Richson, you had Carter.
But I think we're pretty much in the same boat
as far as the names are known, like the top
basically I would say the top. I'm looking at my
mock draft I did basically like with my with my
uh my podcast, the top fourteen names I have on
(01:53:27):
my podcast. Really the top sixteen names are all known names.
It's a matter of kind of where they end up going,
Like is the first cornerback, whether Spoon or Christian Zalez?
You know, like we know who they're gonna be. It's
a matter of what order they going there.
Speaker 1 (01:53:43):
You go, all right, and the order on this show
is very easy. It's Schwartz and Infirman. That's the way
it is. All right, here you go. He's Jeff Schwartz,
Imany Furman. We are Fox Sports Sunday on Fox Sports.
Right now, it's time to point fingers. I love it.
It's the blame game and it's next flame game coming
right up right here on Fox Sports Sunday on Fox
(01:54:03):
Sports Radio, and basically we're broadcasting live from the Tirak
dot Com studios. But before the blame game, let me
remind you top of the hour, about twelve minutes from
now you'll have the duo of Dan Byer and Mike
Harmon right here on Fox Sports Radio. And now it's
time for the Progressive play today.
Speaker 2 (01:54:20):
People joined us flow in the second half, tig it
Away depots offense three on one, Lebron down.
Speaker 1 (01:54:28):
Show off to a little bit Lebron Ron.
Speaker 2 (01:54:31):
That's what got them rolling in the first quarter.
Speaker 1 (01:54:34):
Their defense, they turned them over. Take that, Dylan Brooks,
take that Lebron James a dunk. That's what it was
yesterday in the playoffs and Lebron James put in twenty
five yesterday. That was the Progressive play to day, brought
to you by Progressive Insurance. Progressive makes bundling easy and affordable.
Got a multi policy discount of cobonding your motorcycle, RV, boat,
ATV and more. All your protection in one place bundling.
(01:54:57):
Say where have Progressive dot Com? And now it's time
for the man himself, Ethan Miller, with the blame game.
Speaker 3 (01:55:03):
You ruined me.
Speaker 1 (01:55:04):
It's all your fault. No, it's your fault.
Speaker 6 (01:55:07):
What is all your fault?
Speaker 1 (01:55:12):
Maybe it's everyone's fault. Who knows he's a liar. That's
why there's the blame game. Let's figure out who to blame.
Speaker 5 (01:55:21):
What's going on? Guys, Here we go. We got your fault,
everything's my fault.
Speaker 3 (01:55:26):
Here we go.
Speaker 5 (01:55:27):
We're gonna start off easy. Draymond Green continues to get
flagrant twos and ejected from games. Who's the blame for this,
Draymond Green or the NBA in the league.
Speaker 1 (01:55:40):
You know that's easy. I mean, I know I started easy.
Speaker 5 (01:55:42):
I'm telling you I started easy.
Speaker 1 (01:55:45):
Yeah, Draymond Green, he needs to go to a shrink.
He goes control him so, you know what, he's aggressive.
And some people will say it's great that he's that
kind of a play. No, it's not great. It's his fault.
He should know better, he should control himself and continue.
Did he do that in college? I don't think so.
All right, do that in Michigan State.
Speaker 5 (01:56:04):
It's reported, Jeff, you want to add anything else to that.
Speaker 2 (01:56:07):
Or we can go, Okay, we're good.
Speaker 5 (01:56:09):
All right, here we got we're getting harder.
Speaker 1 (01:56:10):
Level two.
Speaker 5 (01:56:11):
It's reported the Oakland A's are reported are headed to
Vegas in twenty twenty seven. Who's to blame for the
Oakland A's leaving Oakland?
Speaker 2 (01:56:19):
Oh, great question question? Yeah, Okay, So the A's have left,
the Raiders have left, and the Warriors have left. So
at some point it's a city's fault, right, Like, I
am someone of the belief that the owners should pay
for these stadiums, right like in Carolina. Here in Charlotte,
(01:56:41):
the owner for the Panthers, David Temper, is going to
ask for public money for new stadium. He's worth like
eleven billion dollars bill drone freaking stadium. Okay, but it
seems like Oakland wanted money for a project that like,
they wanted to build one of those like stadiums with
a bunch of stuff around it, right, like a bunch
of you know, shopping and hotels and restaurants and whatnot,
And they wanted the city to pay for some of
(01:57:02):
that infrastructure.
Speaker 1 (01:57:03):
And the city said no.
Speaker 2 (01:57:04):
And I get it, you know, there are other issues
in Oakland and whatnot. When you've lost three teams, this
sort of becomes the city's fault, right Andy, Like and
I get I get it, there's other Oakland has other
issues and other things that that they have to worry about.
I'm totally I get the argument, but you lose three
teams though at some point becomes a city's fault.
Speaker 1 (01:57:24):
Oakland, California has become the arm pitch city of sports
in America today. You blame the city leaders. You got
a stadium, the coliseum where they play baseball, and I've
been out there. Okay, it's sports, so build them a stadium.
But I'll tell you what if the fans really and
truly loved their teams and loved the sport. They had
(01:57:46):
nine hundred plus people at an Oakland A's game two
weeks ago, so you know, if the fans came, the
team wouldn't have to leave. And I don't think things
are gonna get much brighter in Vegas. I don't think
Vegas is a great town to play like some eighty
one ball games in baseball because it's not that big
of a city. I think that's a tourist attraction. One
one day a week for the NFL is perfect. I
(01:58:08):
don't see him making waves in baseball. And they're too late,
you know what, They're too late. Hockey came in there already,
and the NFL you're too late. Baseball.
Speaker 2 (01:58:17):
The Oakland Coliseum is a it's a dump like, it's
a terrible place to watch it. Really, they're playing sport.
Speaker 1 (01:58:22):
I played there the high school arena. Is the stadium
better than that?
Speaker 5 (01:58:25):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (01:58:25):
Easily? Yes? Yes?
Speaker 1 (01:58:27):
All right? Next, all right?
Speaker 5 (01:58:29):
All star games within professional sports are no longer I'm
talking All Star Game, no skills challenge here, are no
longer watched to the amount that they were twenty or
thirty years ago. Who's the blame for this? What?
Speaker 2 (01:58:40):
Oh what sport?
Speaker 5 (01:58:41):
We're talking MLB, NBA, NFL.
Speaker 2 (01:58:44):
So the blame is I don't know if this is
one person or entity, but it's the accessibility to games,
you know, when for baseball, for example, I love baseball.
You know, the All Star Game was the only time
I got to see Griffey Junior play baseball for the
entire season because he was in the American League. And
I grew up in Los Angeles with the Dodgers, and
(01:59:07):
we don't watch any Angels and I was a Giants fan.
Right so I'm watching the Nationally Plus with with the
Braves on TBS and the Cubs on WGN, like I
just watched National League Baseball all the time all year.
I got to see King Grifvig Junior play. It was
All Star weekend. I wanted to watch All Star weekend.
Cal Ripken Junior a only time I got to see
him play it was All Star Weekend. I want to
(01:59:27):
watch these guys play anyone in the American League. Now,
I can watch anytime, anywhere, every highlight, andy, anytime I
ever want, any single sport. There's no to me, there's
no the All Star. We can have watched these guys
hit a thousand home runs all season. I don't need
to watch them do it again on a home run derby.
Speaker 1 (01:59:44):
I'll go one stuff for the interleague play kill the
All Star Game in Major League Baseball. That's what it's
all about. Because right now, in a couple of weeks,
the Yankees are coming to Cincinnati. I love it. I'm
gonna see the Yankees play the Reds. But the point
that the matter is this. The teams in the other
league were a mystery for a long time. If you
leave in one league.
Speaker 2 (02:00:03):
And we're your ninety seven closest friends, will be a
great American ballpark to watch that game. You're exactly right,
you're exactly well, it'd be ninety seven Yankees fans.
Speaker 1 (02:00:11):
All right again, Thank you so much, Jeff, have a
great week, Dan Bier, Mike Harmon, next right here on
Fox Sports Radio.
