that run to close halftime and then it was just
the annihilation in the second half.

Like usually you and I are all from five to
nine am Eastern time on Saturday, so we're like the
first two hours we're clinging for dear life, just trying
to you know, caffeinate each other through it.

Now we're getting the end of the night. Like I
don't know, man, Like.

This is just this is a level of chaos and
I'm not sure Fox Sports Radio is ready for but
we're gonna give it to him.

Come on, Like it feels nast actually, like.

Like instead of drinking coffee and just trying to stay through,
now I'm having a nice little mango tea and like
it feels like the day's getting ready for us. And
you're right, Like I sat down and you know, the
most overused phrase of the last forty eight hours have
been the best two words in sports. Game sevens we
got one going right now in the NHL also, But
like I sat down and thought, good, we're gonna get

Sunday afternoon durrama and we're gonna get this great game
seven and instead, man, it felt like from the outset,
Denver just wasn't ready. Like you mentioned that it was
a close game, but it didn't feel like a close game.
Between the turnovers and Okase missing everything early, it just
felt like at some point, okay, see there's a good
better life.

Yeah, now you're spot on. It felt like a matter
of time before they would just be able to run
away with it. And how much did you listen? They
just didn't match up, Like I know, it's seven games,
and it sounds crazy, but at some point, I don't
know about you, but I always felt like OKAC was

the better team, and in fact I was. I was
stunned that the series was just close. Then Alan Gordon
getting banged up. I think that was the It was the.

Dagger, Yeah, one hundred percent. Not only that, but just
think about the chaos.

Like, to me, the fact that Denver was in this
series all the way through just speaks to how good
that team actually is when you think about what's going
on in the last what three months for them, last
two months for them, Like how many codes are able
to fire a coach and then go through some of
the it just felt like they were out of sync
most of the back half of the season, right, So

like to get into this situation against an OKAC team that,
you know, the only fault everybody wants to say for
Oklahoma City is that they're young.

That's like the easy thing to fall back.

On and say, well, you know, they're young, they got
to go through these But like this OKAYC team was
better on paper if you were picking up as you and.

If you're picking up the video game version and asking
which of these two teams you wanted to play, as
everybody's picking Oklahoma City, Like the team was a better team,
and it showed in Game seven.

Yeah, I was shocked at went seven. Day you and
I talked about this. Yeah, I honestly I give Dever
a ton of credit. A yo, kics. You know we
looked just round the steam. I thought they grew up today.
Like sounds stupid, but I think today's that it went
all right. We really are the best team. So it's

forty two forty one. If Jamal Murray makes that little
seventeen footer right, forty two forty one, three to eleven
to go before halftime, and it's a one point game,
and they win by thirty two, right.

Speaker 3 (04:03):
Like, I mean, you just saw it.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
They they're okay, see ends with a thirteen to one run, right,
I mean, and then they just roll in the second half.
They're correct, the man, Shay's fantastic. They're a great team, man,
they really are. It's just I believe in the youth
piece of it, and I do believe that they needed

to mature a little bit. I need to think that
they had to kind of go through this game seven,
and I think, listen, I love ant man, you know that.
I mean, we're namesakes, but I mean I think Denver's
Denver gave them the test and then that's that and
includes the finals too. Man.

That's so the funny thing is this is actually, in
a lot of ways, in my mind, a really great
moment for the NBA because you hear people constantly yelling
about who's the next face of the league, and you
know what's gonna happen when and Lebron and all these things. Well,
these are the moments that faces are made, right, Like,
at some point because of the way that the NBA
is structured, and because of the lack of attention that

comes sometimes from all of us to the regular season,
it takes some big playoff mountain moment that makes everybody
step back and say, oh wait, damn, like I underestimated that.
I'll be honest, I'll be like in our group text
today as we were getting ready for the show this afternoon,
I said, hey, let's keep an eye on what happens
in this game, because if Yo Kis comes out, just
absolutely manhattles and SGA shrinks.

Speaker 1 (05:30):
Boy, that's gonna look weird.

Speaker 4 (05:31):
When the MVP award comes out whenever that comes out, right,
And instead, you had this moment nothing against yo kids.
You had this moment where SGA from the outset was
just he's best player on the court. It wasn't even close,
and he was taking it over over and over and
over again. So like, there's a weird part of me,
Anthony that's excited about the fact that we're gonna have
ant Man taking on SGA in this star making moment,

Like one of the two of those stars is about
to head to the NBA Finals no matter what, and
that I think these are.

Speaker 2 (05:58):
The moments that we pile on and we suddenly we
fall in love.

Speaker 4 (06:01):
Like Yiannis, the legend grew tenfold simply by winning a championship.

Speaker 1 (06:06):
That's going to happen now.

Speaker 4 (06:08):
And I'm presuming that one of these whichever one of
these guys gets into the final, the legend will grow
even if they don't win it, Like the legend is
going to grow for the individual.

Speaker 2 (06:16):
Yeah, that's a great point. You know, It's funny, dude.
I look at it, and I look at the two
of them, and I listen, you know, a man has
it all charisma, Like he's got the greatest personality. He's
just got that. He's got it all. It's the total package. Right,
He's explosive player and he matches it off the floor,

and I think he's great. Like, I love the fact
that he's in the conference finals, like that they're going
to get the big time coverage is a I think.
I think it's great for the league. But this, as
great as SGA is, this okayc team is just deep.
They're so good. They're so deep. I mean, I mean, honestly,

and I'm with you that SGA is the face of it,
but they're a good team.

Speaker 3 (07:09):
I mean, I love the way they played the game.

Speaker 4 (07:12):
Isn't that sort of reminiscent to some ways Not the
same level as star power, but like Indiana is not
necessarily the sexiest team for a lot of people in
the East, but they're deep.

Speaker 1 (07:21):
They got a lot of guys that can play right.

Speaker 4 (07:23):
Like, I think there's I think there's an energy and
an excitement to Oklahoma City being as deep as they are,
there's a lot of like there isn't a lull on
the court sometimes that you get for other other teams
where it's a one person outcome.

Like even looking at.

Speaker 4 (07:35):
Denver today, the number of times you're like, yep, just
God only knows where theyre gonna get points from. That
is not an issue for okayee, you're right, like, I
enjoy everything about it, and they are on paper right
now they go Oklahoma City the better team than Minnesota,
Like it seems.

Speaker 1 (07:50):
Like that's the way to go.

Speaker 4 (07:52):
But boy, you gotta feel like if you're the league,
you're sitting around and say, man, Anthony Edwards getting all
the way to the NBA Finals to be sexy, like,
because you're right, like, not only drive some of this.
I find like I can't watch Minnesota and not root
for them because I simply.

I like it.

Speaker 2 (08:05):
Man, that's just the way it goes.

Speaker 3 (08:08):
Yeah, I dude, I feel the same way. I do.

Speaker 2 (08:10):
I feel the same way, But I just don't think
they have the horses. They don't.

Speaker 1 (08:16):
They don't, they don't. I mean the horse, not the
horse is right.

Speaker 2 (08:20):
And look, you know, one of the things I love
about where the game is where the league is and
I oftentimes you know, listen, I could be critical to
with the best of them right during the regular season,
but what I like now is I think there's a
sea change in the league when it comes to how
to build a winner.

Speaker 3 (08:39):
Right. The star model is over.

Speaker 2 (08:43):
Pairing three stars together is just impossible the way the
cap is right now. The fact that you just have
you just have, no, you can't fill out the roster
when you have three stars. I like this, Like I
love this team you bring. You mentioned Indiana. That's how
they're built, right, They're the Okay Sees the same way.

Speaker 3 (09:05):
I like that piece of it.

Speaker 2 (09:07):
And really, I mean, if you think about Minnesota, they
just need a couple more role players because it maker
carry them.

Speaker 3 (09:15):
They just need another player too.

Speaker 4 (09:18):
Yeah, And look, I think to your point, I will
always champion a team with depth advancing because that's such
a better model. If you're a fan of a bat,
like you're a fan of a Washington team right now
that you know lost out in the lottery and you're
trying to figure out how you get better over time,
your great hope is Oklahoma City, right Like, every single

team that's sitting here that's young and just getting railroaded
right now has to look around and say, hey, our
hope is Okay see, because that's a team that you know,
grew it the right way and they grew with you.

Speaker 1 (09:50):
And yes they have a.

Speaker 4 (09:51):
Star, but to your point, they got a lot of
guys that can come in and give them quality points,
equality minutes, and that's that feels like a more sustainable thing.
Like if every generation the only way you're going to
win is if you team up the three best superstars. Man,
that's just gonna leave two thirds of the league got
Like I think it shouldn't be.

And we mentioned this.

Speaker 4 (10:08):
I mentioned this last night talking a little bit on
Fox Sports Radio. But Anthony, think about it. We sit
here all the time and we praise the NFL for
their parody. I'm looking at an NBA right now that
is giving me Indiana, Oklahoma City, Minnesota as three of
the final four teams. Like you just want to talk
about random Like when the year started, nobody if you
had told the all of the networks that you were

going to spend the next nine months only talking about
the four teams that are left, everybody would have died
on the vine. Like these aren't the four teams that
that minus the next These aren't the four teams that
most people are looking for.

Speaker 2 (10:42):
So I'm phenomenon right, Like this is new, This is something.

Speaker 3 (10:48):
Now. The question is is it sustainable?

Speaker 2 (10:51):
I think you and I both agree that it is
and that this is the path it's going to go down.

Speaker 3 (10:57):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (10:57):
I mean we're about to get our seventh straight new champion.
We haven't had a repeat champion in the NBA in
seven years. So, like, just where it's at right now,
it's interesting and I think it puts more pressure, Like
there is a part of the NBA right now that's
a little bit on the strike. What you better get
it now while the windows open, because I continually use
the Yannis approach to this, Like when Yannis won that

(11:19):
championship with the Bucks, we.

Speaker 1 (11:21):
Were all sitting there saying, oh, how many is Milwaukee
gonna win?

Speaker 4 (11:23):
Right like, and now you find out, wow, well that
was That was a beautiful moment, but really hard to
replicate in the modern NBA. Like we're seeing that over
and over and over again. That's part of what makes
this playoff run so special. Look, you and I have
been wildly hard on the NBA, on the fellows for months,
like we've been. We have had every dark conversation you
can have about why the league isn't getting more attention,

(11:47):
and then you start to watch what's happened in the playoffs,
and you're like, my god, this only makes the regular
season more frustrating, right, because like when you see how
it looks, when it looks good, you're like, damn, I
wish I wish we could get this sort of electric
energy in December.

Speaker 2 (12:00):
We can't.

Speaker 4 (12:01):
I wish we could, because when you get it like this,
this is a new phenomenon that just absolutely.

Speaker 2 (12:06):
Feels like it's blowing up in front of us in
every good way.

Speaker 3 (12:08):
Well, is it because the NBA sold out to stars?
Let me ask you a question.

Speaker 2 (12:15):
Oh, the regular season and all the predicament, that dark
stuff that you talked about, right, is it just because
we sold out the stars to empower the star that
they felt empowered to be bigger than the game.

Speaker 3 (12:31):
And look, when it comes to winning, look what happened.

Speaker 2 (12:36):
We all thought when Brooklyn got hardened and Kyrie and
KD that, oh my god, just give him the trophy, right,
and look what happened.

Speaker 3 (12:48):
It was an unmitigated disaster.

Speaker 2 (12:51):
And truthfully, you could talk about the heatles all you want,
but let's be real. I mean, it was just Lebron
and Wade Bosh was a really good player. But really
he wasn't a star superstar. He was a role player,
a very good one.

Speaker 4 (13:06):
I mean, to that end, You're right, maybe everything sold
out to this. I've told this story before, but I
will tell it again for a new audience. I remember
when the Nuggets were on their way to their first
championship that year. At the time, I was doing daily
radio for ESPN, and I remember sitting down with my
co host and we went to the bosses and we said, hey,
should we.

Speaker 1 (13:24):
Start getting Nuggets guests?

Speaker 4 (13:25):
Should we start talking about Denver because they look like
they're going to be really good this year? And we
got laughed at and the answer was no, nobody cares
about the Nuggets. And like, so to your point, I
think the media and the way it's covered, the way
the league wants it covered, the way the media partners
cover it, all of these things do contribute to the
fact that it's a star driven league. So a team
like Indiana, a team like Oklahoma City that you're talking about,

like teams that have some stars but are mostly known
for their depth and just being really.

Speaker 1 (13:51):
Good basketball teams. Man that is not nearly as sexy,
and so it's tougher.

Speaker 2 (13:56):
To talk about I mean people already ripping the league
because it could be an okay see Indiana final as
a basketball fans, that that's a nightmare for the league,
like attention wise for casuals. Yeah, I know, I know,
but that's again, that's what's wrong. That's what's wrong with
our society. Right then, we're a celebrity culture. It's it's

we're a celebrity over over substance. What's okay, see Indiana,
there's substance. I mean, hell, even this next team, right,
I know all the celebrities follow them, but they're a
great team.

Speaker 1 (14:37):
They're not a star team.

Speaker 2 (14:39):
I love Brunton to death, but that I mean, they're
not you know, they're not Steph.

Speaker 3 (14:44):
And and k D and the Warriors.

Speaker 1 (14:48):
No, God, no, no, not not at all.

Speaker 4 (14:50):
And I would challenge that a lot of the people
that that, you know, when you when you're in the
thick of the mud covering the NBA day in and
day out, it's just it's easy to simply watch the
teams to get the most clicks, because that's what you're
going to spend.

Speaker 2 (15:04):
The most time talking about.

Speaker 4 (15:05):
So I just I would challenge that there are plenty
of people that talk about the NBA literally every day
is part of their job. That don't watch the Pacers
on a given Tuesday night in November. I just I
don't believe they do, and so it makes it hard
to talk about those teams. And now you get to
the playoffs where we actually do have the time to
deep dive and fall in love and start to watch
some of these matchups and start to watch some of

(15:26):
the way these teams actually play. And that's why you
start to get better coverage, you start to get better storytelling,
you start to get better analysis, you start to get
better understanding all because I just think that the NBA
is lost for so much of the regular season, and
it's making this playoff run beautiful.

I love every second of it.

Brother. I want to dive in with you, man, I
really I want to dive into this whole thing with
you when it comes to the start, where the league is,
how it's covered, what you really enjoy out of it.

like you saw celebrity row the Garden, the whole thing.
But they're a team, right, Like they win because they
play defense, because Tibbs has that's not good, right, And

you get to kel Bridges to that mix. And obviously
town Cat's playing like some great basketball.

But there's still a team. Man. They're a team of grit.

And look, I don't know what happens if Tatum doesn't
get hurt.

But you know, I mean they're there.

Speaker 4 (17:33):
Yeah, I mean, look, what if Tatum doesn't get hurt
is gonna be the ultimate what if? The Celtics fans
will always have to rely on when Knicks fans getting
their faces for the next twenty years about this particular series. Right,
it'll always be well, Tatum got hurt. I will remind
Celtics fans that none of that should have mattered. If
you hadn't melted down in the first two games, it
wouldn't have been in that situation anyway. Right, So you know,

but to your point, what do we see like more
often than not with this Knicks team when they had
their or just it's not just because, yeah, you need
one person that can get all your clutch buckets, and
Jalen Brunson has certainly become a legend and that's that
area for them. But you're absolutely right that it is
a communal effort from all the guys on the court.

Now, Tims is gonna run the.

Five on the court to death, and it is gonna
be really interesting to me because that is the one
in this series Knicks versus Pacers. The Pacers they're far
more likely to use a very deep rotation and just
continue to try and try and stay fresh fresh. That's
not who the Knicks are. But you know you're you're
a thousand percent right that this isn't just a This
isn't like the era where it was Lebron and a

bunch of hangers on, Like this isn't even Stephan Clay
and a bunch of guys that you know you may
forget in a moment like this is. This is truly
a team effort with Jalen Bruns as being the main
star of that moment. So a thousand percent that's that's
the case here. But if you're the Knicks, if you're
if you're Knicks fans, you got to feel really good
about the way this entire bracket has fallen through, like

I've fallen together, like you just took down the Celtics.
Ain't nobody left that the Knicks can't be. It's wildly exciting.
If you're a Pacers fan, you feel like you've got
like every one of these fan bases right now has
got to feel like they're in a pretty good situation
to beat the other.

I think that's kind of special right now. It is,
and this is where I want to ask you, because
I'm setting up and we talked about it to start
the show. Can the NBA exist in a big way
like this? Or are we too much a celebrity don't
watch the game society like I quite frankly, I can't

wait for Nick's Pacers. The last time it was Nick Pacers,
I was covering it for The New York Post and
it was Reggie Miller and with a lot of fun.

Speaker 3 (19:39):
The whole thing. This is gonna be good basketball. What
I see.

Speaker 2 (19:42):
I think Minnesota okay, see, I think Okay, she's gonna win.
But I think it's gonna be good basketball. And you
have got to look forward to watching ant Man the
whole thing. But there's there's a degree of really good basketball.
Can the basketball sell? Or is it you have to
have you know, Lebron and you gotta have k Yeah.

The next one and the next one and the next one.
What sells?

You gotta be sexy like the thing of it is.
I'll go back to my music background for a minute.
Sometimes the best musicians in the world, like they don't
even get record deals, like the absolute Oh my god,
I can't believe I just watched that person play half
the time, doesn't even get an opportunity to.

Put out a commercial radio hit.

And then when you actually start putting out music, there
are some there are some wildly talented.

People that have success.

But look at the entire let's look back, you know, to.

The entire boy band generation. Were any of the people
in those boy bands like so epically talent, Like, were
you looking at somebody saying, oh my god, I'm looking
at a spot, I'm looking at the modern day mozart
Like No, But they turn around and they sell a
boatload of records, Like was was Britney Spears the most talented?

No events to Britney fans.

Speaker 4 (20:47):
But you know, when you look at some of these
these huge artists that have sold a ton of records,
they're not the most talented.

Speaker 1 (20:53):
They're the most entertaining.

Speaker 4 (20:54):
And so like, at some level, that's what the NBA
has become, like they want the most entertaining outcome.

Speaker 1 (20:59):
Let's let's not get it twisted.

Speaker 4 (21:01):
If we're being honest, even if it was a fraction
of the basketball, even if it was god awful basketball,
if they've gotten Celtics Lakers in the NBA Finals, it
would do much better ratings than a great series between
the Pacers and Oklahoma City would, right, So that just
reminds us all that what really says like sex sells
at some point, so you gotta have sexy, and you know,

at some point, Indiana, to people that aren't big basketball fans,
just ain't sexy.

Speaker 2 (21:27):
I hate it, dude, like Siakam. The way they played
them hard, they smith, they it's a great they play
and the way you know, early this season all they
did was it was tempo, tempo, tempo tempo.

Speaker 3 (21:44):
Right, I'll put down the floor. Then they start playing defense.

Speaker 2 (21:47):
They started finding themselves and the brand of basketball they
play is good.

Speaker 3 (21:52):
It's good ball. Man, they sharing the ball.

I love Hal Burton man and he's not the SGA
and he's not a man. You know, I was a
league guard, but man, he runs a really good point.
He's tough place defense. Siakam the same thing. Man was
a hell of a ball player. And I'm sorry, like

I'm in the minority because I like ball and to me,
they played basketball. And I'm looking forward to Nicks Indiana
more than watching the Celtics, even though the Celtics stars
probably a better team, but I'd much rather watch Nicks
Indiana than watch Boston Shoot eighty three's.

You know what, You're not wrong, but you you have
a huge background around movies, and what do we all
know about movies? Like the Academy Awards are gonna go
to a bunch of movies nobody's ever seen. And last
year of the highest grossing movie was Inside Out two
and number two is Deadpool and Wolverine, right, like not,
I frankly, I love both of those movies. Like so,

I'm gonna be honest, I saw both of those movies.
I enjoyed both of those movies. I am part of
the problem, my friend. I am part of the problem
because there are any great movies out there nobody watches.

Speaker 3 (23:06):
I hate those movies. Dude.

That that known as is the number one movie on Netflix, right,
and it's just terrible. It's an awful movie, all right.
It's it's schlock. It's poorly written, all right, It's filled
with bad cliches. It's actually insulting to Italians. It's a
terrible movie. Right, It's awful. You can do it so much,

it's so much better. But that's what's you know, you're
to your point, You're right and that's not even mission impossible, right, Like,
that's the big summer blockbuster, which I get.

I just give me to basketball. Dude.

I love that.

I love I love where you're coming from from a
pure heart. I love it because you're so right. Like
and again the musician, I mean, there's so many like
so many times that I sit there and I'm like,
I can't want to watch to watch somebody wildly talented
do things that you just make make an impossible instrument
look effortless, and you sit there and say, this is incredible,
and then you realize that that person that's at the

top of his craft and classical music, that has been
his whole life, sacrificing everything to do it, is you know,
making a few thousand dollars for that show, and you
know the boy band down the street is making a
million dollars a show.

Speaker 2 (24:22):
It's just it's a weird world, man, It's a weird.

And nothing formance. It's just a weird world.
