Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Oh good evening, everybody. VJ. Husky, Arnie Spaniard, We're in
for the guys tonight, Jason Martin and Aaron Torres right
here on Fox Sports Radio as we're broadcasting live from
the Fox Sports Radio studios. Busy Saturday night. How you
doing tonight, VJ.

Speaker 3 (00:23):
I'm as blessed as always, man. And what did I
tell you Thanksgiving and Black Friday Night? This Arnie, this
Spaniard and VJ, this Arnie, this thinking Genie is a
big vanilla funny thing. Hey, brother, I'm starting to think
the sports radio and entertainment gods are speaking, brother. So
it's I'm doing blessed. It's great to be here with you.
And let's do what we do best man, Let's educate

(00:45):
and entertain.

Speaker 2 (00:46):
Let's do it. By the way, First of all, Happy holidays, Yes,
is all yours? Excuse me? I know you have young kids.
Has Santa finished all his shopping or is there still
somebody chopping to do right now?

Speaker 3 (00:58):
VJ? Well, no, being at I have a five and
a four year old. Santa doesn't do any even shopping.
Sanna hasn't done anything yet. Sanna's gonna show up on
Christmas night. They're gonna they're gonna be awake. I can
tell you, guys, I can tell you this because they
know they don't listen. They're not gonna know. I'm gonna
dresses Sannah, and I'm gonna have them wake wake up,
and then there's yeah yeah, and then my wife is

(01:20):
going to like walk them down the hallway. I'm simply
just gonna be standing there putting presents under the tree,
take a bite of the cookie, you know, act like
I hear something, pauls for a second, then my wife's
got sh and then quietly exits. Create that memory that
my kids can say, Nah, Santa, for real, I seen him.
He was in my living room. He bit the cookie,
he dranke that, he drank the ripple, the ripple plant

(01:40):
based milk. He had a simp of ad and everything.
So no, I honestly told I do Christmas Eve shopping.
I am a avid psychotic Christmas Eve shopper. I love it.
I don't shy away from it.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
Reality.

Speaker 3 (01:54):
Yes, every year, I never buy anything early, like nothing,
Chris See. First of all, everything is marked down. That's
that's number one. Everything's marked down because they got to
get it out last week.

Speaker 2 (02:05):
Let's get rid of it, and.

Speaker 3 (02:06):
We gotta get it out the door. Everything's marked down,
and it's just an energy and vibe. You know why
everybody's out and they're out trying to do something to
service another human being and pleasure another human being. And
you know me, man, on a personal level, I'm all
about that. That's what symbolizes Christmas Eve shopping for me.
So I've done zero zero shopping. I will wait till

(02:27):
Christmas Eve like I do every year, and spend about
ten hours out he Nigo home, eat cookies, watch National
lampoons and Chevy Chase Christmas and all that.

Speaker 2 (02:34):
Oh nice. I love it, certainly enjoy the memories you're
going to create it. The time goes by fast, my friends.
I so enjoy having a good time out there in
southern California's the holidays come up, we gonna fill it in.
Other guys have the night off. Jason Martin Arra and tours.
If you want to get all of us on Twitter,
real simple, a big vanilla fuddy, I'm instincing genius one.

(02:56):
We always get a lot of tweets with Jay, so
I'll try to keep my eye on that. Yeah, that's
ri while I'm trying to keep my eye on my
Arizona Wildcats. Yeah take it out. Alabama up by seven.
So I'm a little nervous right now. Lots going on.
So if I don't talk for the next ten minutes
or fourteen minutes in one second, you'll know why. But

(03:18):
we do have a lot to get to. Obviously, this
Michigan News has been at the top of the headlines
right now as we advance to the next part of
the story is who's going to be the next coach?
And we've heard a lot of rumors. At first we
thought it was going to be Dillan Ham out of
Arizona State. Doesn't look like that's going to be it.
We've heard rumors about Kaitlin de boor now I think,

(03:42):
and I could be wrong. I always fall for these
fake accounts. But from what I'm seeing on Twitter, yeah.

Speaker 3 (03:50):
You mean what you sent me earlier today?

Speaker 4 (03:52):
Is that?

Speaker 2 (03:52):
Is that a fake one? Is that a fake one?

Speaker 3 (03:54):
I don't know. I don't ai. Who's the tail now?

Speaker 2 (03:58):
Well, I think, and again I could be wrong. I
think the latest leader in the clubhouse Jed Fish, who
is the head coach in Washington, who came from my
Arizona Wildcats did a phenomenal job. He's done a pretty
good job at Washington. He's certainly an up becoming college coach.

(04:18):
What do you think? Who do you? By the way,
when I say who do you want to be a coach?
Are you looking for a coach that's like I want
long term for the next hundred years, or are you
okay with a band aid kind of like what North
Carolina did with Belichick even though that hasn't worked out yet,
or like the Raiders are doing with Pete Carroll. Well
that hasn't worked out yet either. But you tell me

(04:40):
you want a long term marriage or you just want
a little short fair affair.

Speaker 3 (04:44):
You tell me, I won't think go First of all,
let me just say with Jeed Fish also too, he
has Michigan ties. He was on Harball staff, right, so
he's been there. It's a voice, they know, it's a face,
they know, it's a vibe they know, and he knows
them like everybody knows him. He knows them. He would
be a great pick as far as what I'm looking for.

(05:06):
No one's going to coach for the next one hundred
years college football along with the NFL. We're in the
hyperbolic chamber of impatience, which I've spoke on hundreds of
time on sports talk radio, and the impatience is at
an all time high. And if you don't win right
away with NIL and you and I talked about this
over the Thanksgiving holiday about NIL, about the transfer portal,

(05:27):
how strong it is you. It don't matter who you
get because if you don't retain and win instantly within
three years, they want you out the door because the
big money that the back door people that the boosters
are spending on NIO to grab these young buckeroos to
come in and change your program. If they walk out
the door, you, how happy do you think that businessman

(05:50):
is that his investment, essentially what it is right walked
out the door because you're gonna fire your coach.

Speaker 2 (05:56):
Well, Trey Aikman wasn't very happy. You saw that story
this week.

Speaker 3 (05:59):
About that exactly, And look, and it's changed college football.
It hasn't changed the product on the field. It's just
changed all the variables and side stories. What I would
do if I was Michigan as I stick with coach
bit four year get get them, don't you there's nobody
who's gonna come in here and clean this up right now, nobody.

(06:19):
There's no one on earth who can go into an
arbor right now and clean this thing up. I would.
I would make some enter I would make some enter
team moves. I would probably move some guys around, especially
new offensive coordinator. And that way you're not in flux
of oh, who's gonna lead? They're waiting to hear if
the coach you know I E. Underwood. What they're waiting

(06:40):
to hear, what kind of coaching heart? Well, if we
tell you right now, is coach Biff who was Blake
Korm's high school coach, who filled in for Sharon Moore
in one game this year at coach once again, same
voice saying vibe, saying energy, saying consistency, same camaraderie. You
know him. So you don't have to wait to see
if a new coach is coming in. We gonna know
if you like coach bit by you leaving any way
and trying to tag it to the horrible situation behind it.

(07:02):
So if I'm Michigan, I go coach be for a
year at least just a year, and you see what
opens up next year.

Speaker 2 (07:09):
The only pushback. Could I just tell recruits, come on,
we don't know how long this coach is going to
be around. You know the rest of us are going
to be around a long time.

Speaker 3 (07:17):
So well, do you.

Speaker 2 (07:18):
Want to commit to a program like that?

Speaker 3 (07:20):
Well, that's what I mean. Coaches are grimy anyway. It's
a grimy business. It just is. And here's the thing, like,
we've done enough radio. I'm okay with it. I'm not
the guy sitting here. Oh, college coaches have no morals
and no ethics, and stop it. You think your grocery
store owner, you shopez got morals and ethics when he
keeps raising a price on milk and eggs when he
knows the economy. It is what is? So we're not

(07:41):
doing that over here on this side, I would just say,
we got Biff here, We got coach Biff here, So
we're not bringing in nobody new. Now, what are you
gonna do?

Speaker 5 (07:51):
Now?

Speaker 3 (07:51):
We don't have to wait for that. We don't have
to wait for a coach. We have to wait a
lot of these kids can leave next year anyway. So
that the whole thing is the coach not gonna be here.
That what does that matter to a junior. Let's get real,
what does that matter to a junior? Right now? He's
a senior next year, So maybe it's like, okay, you
know what, might as well just stayed my last year
out here and then Rob Morse stay and Rob Mortley
played in three games this year coming back from an injury.
He's already announced now I'm Good'm gonna take my medical

(08:13):
year here, my fifth year. I'm stayed at Michigan. He
could leave, but why I already know this voice. If
that's gonna be the coach that would that would be
my plan, aren't all right?

Speaker 2 (08:21):
Let me let me just throw a couple other names
out there, since sure they're part of the rumors. Sure well,
Brian Kelly, no, because he's available now you you said
only for a couple of years. That certainly would bring
a big name to the program. Do you not like
him because of his demeanor? Or you just don't want
any part of something like that. I don't want any
part of something like both. I don't like his demeanor.

(08:42):
I don't want any part of something like that. And
you know, I you know, it's a bad taste in
my mouth, how lsu you know, kind of kind of
in the end, the fact that they're spending money down there.

Speaker 3 (08:51):
You know, we know about Louisiana. You've made the u
N and my Sunday partner on the ends On show Hartman,
see what remains a lot of comments about the money
that state has that they're not using on the people
in there. But they got all this money for players
and coaches and things like that in that state, and
Brian Kelly still couldn't get it done there. Why would
I think with another huge endowment, another big, you know,

(09:12):
big brand of the business over the last hundred years,
why would I think he would come here, go to
ann Arburn do any different that he couldn't do down
in back and Rouge. So, Brian Kelly's kind of off
my list. And as far as some of these other
names go, now I'll let.

Speaker 2 (09:24):
You peak and Riley, what about somebody like that?

Speaker 3 (09:27):
No, because I just think, I mean, I honestly, I
think he's doing a good job here in La. You
see you did you see that recruiting class he's just
nailed down who won a Blittankall Award right there? Was like, No,
He's it would be silly for him to leave Man
to go to Michigan from SCIE. They're kind of even
as far as maybe brand name. Like I was at

(09:48):
that game. I covered that game for Fox Sports Radio.
That's the most packed the coliseum had been since Pete
Cherrell was here. And everybody was saying it like those
two programs got together on the Saturday afternoon and the
co the scene was sold out. So it would be
a lateral move if I'm Lincoln Riley and it's a
move I don't make.

Speaker 2 (10:05):
All right, let you mentioned under the quarterback he's going
to transfer. I thought that it was going to be
the LSU at least that was the opening rumor. Once again,
I could have fell for all the bogus reports out there.
I've seen a couple of other schools since then. Where
do you think he ends up? But I guess more
important because I know you liked him. I think a

(10:27):
lot of people liked them. Do you still love him
and do you believe in his talent? Because let's face,
I don't think you lived up to expectations this year.

Speaker 3 (10:36):
Well, eighteen year old freshman expectations. That's what's so funny
about that phrase. Nine and three, nine and three in
a division with the defendant national champions and the youngest
team in the conference. I mean, I'm trying to figure
out what did people want the kid to do? What
go ten and one eleven? I get, but that's not realistic.
Eighteen years old, true fret, not red shirt, true freshman,

(10:59):
which means this time last year he was in the
state of Michigan playing for state high school championship. He
didn't red shirt and was sitting on the sideline with
a jersey and a nice chain onto some shades. That's
not what he was. I'm just trying to figure out way,
and that's not in defense of him. That's just me
being an analyst looking at it, like, guys, I get it,
let's pump the brakes. We vilify too quickly, and we
crowned too quickly at the quarterback position at college and

(11:20):
in the NFL. In my opinion and sports talk the business,
you know, it's either they're hit right now and then
they fall off two three years later. You and I
talked about it. How much did everybody like Jayden Damias
his rookie year right right right? How many people were
out on Drake May and out and out on Caleb
Williams after like the first eight weeks of last year.
Look at both those teams there. You feel me, right,
don't I understand?

Speaker 2 (11:39):
But the any differences if this was ten fifteen years ago,
I'd agree with you. But now with the nil money
and people want instant success and you are paying these
kids a lot of money. And when he came in,
that was the big story. What was it? Tom Brady
and Dave Portnoy, everybody pulled everybody that those guys are
living other street now.

Speaker 3 (12:00):
Nowhere, right, yeah, right, but tom Brady is getting bread.

Speaker 2 (12:04):
But you know, you know what they all put. They
all put in their buddy. So the expectations were high,
and rightfully, so you're right. Though he is eighteen, you
still think he'll live up. And you know, how much
better do you think kill get? Obviously the sky's the limit,
but I thought he was gonna have a much better year.

Speaker 3 (12:26):
To be honest with you, Tom Brady said it best
when Colin cow heard our colleague here about a month
and a half maybe two months ago, made another proclamation
I've heard before that you should know by Thanksgiving of
the second year. And his response tom Brady's was that's fine,
but you're assuming that everybody knows how to develop a quarterback.

(12:46):
And see, if you don't know how to develop a quarterback,
we're quick to call people bus with a bad coach,
a bad o line, one of the worst wide receiver
rooms in the league. The quarterback coach isn't any good,
Like they're not developing him, and we put it all
on the quarterback and when they don't do it, we
just say, oh, he's a bus So with Underwood, he's

(13:06):
got to get a quarterback type guy as an offensive coordinator.
He has raw talent, but so many things I saw
by like week eight, Week nine, week ten, like everything
we already know. You can throw it to a barn
wall homing we already know. We know you got a
hawitzer on the right side of your body, but a
tight end eight yards away. You don't need that man

(13:26):
that's touched that's a kiss right there. Let it hit
his hand softly so he could turn his six seven,
two hundred and forty five pound body around and go
run over a guy that's three inches smaller and forty
pounds lighter. You know what I'm saying, instead of trying
to fire. Those are the things that a quarterback coach
will be able to help him with and help develop
him instead of trying to let him trying to live

(13:47):
just off his raw talent, which is off the charts,
all right, and.

Speaker 2 (13:50):
I have money aside. Yes, forget about if if a
team has a quarterback or not, because I'm not going
to go down on the list of this. But if
you could direct him to one school like in Oregon
or would you well you know, because I mean obviously
they have a wide open system there, or would you
direct them to you know, Big twelve where they sling

(14:13):
it around and you know play, you know, wide open
offense SCC. Where would you tell him to go, you
know where would be utilize his best talents.

Speaker 3 (14:23):
Your best talents. The grass is greener where you water it.
The grass is not greener on the other side, in
any aspect of life. The grass is greener where you
water it. You have marsh who's another true freshman who
ended up being the Big Tens leader receiver from week
six on to the end of the season. That's what
those two NFL studs that's at the school down south.

(14:45):
They got two NFL studs on the outside at that
school down there that beat his last game of the year.
And this kid out yardage and caught them once he
figured out how to use his talents on the level
college football, you have a running back room that is towed.
Is the best running back you got guys you can
turn a hand into. They just got banged up this year,
and then you just signed Saveon Hiller from my state

(15:06):
of Virginia, the number one overall running back, who's just
a physical specimen at six one, six twenty one at
seventeen years old. You have a future there. They had
three red shirt linemen, offensive lineman, three redshirt freshmen. Just
start an office line if they're young. My advice would be,
what are the grass where you are? You know the playbook,

(15:26):
you know the plays, you know the system, you know
just because you go transfer somewhere. How'd that work out
for Carson Beck this year?

Speaker 6 (15:32):
Well?

Speaker 2 (15:32):
Right right, I understand that, but he's he's not going back,
and I don't see that happening, to be honest.

Speaker 3 (15:38):
Why do you say that? Do you have any because
anything I've heard is there's no decision. They're waiting to wait.
They're waiting to hear who the coach is gonna be,
which which to me makes sense. I'm not mad.

Speaker 2 (15:47):
It does make it. I would agree with you one
hundred percent of Pubably's gonna wait till coach is non
before he makes his decision.

Speaker 3 (15:53):
Right, why coach bif Is does. If you're Michigan and
you're attached to this kid, the coach Biff is the
answer now on a flip caveat real fast. If they're
rumblings that you don't think he's the guy, then I
can see Michigan saying, yeah, this is who we're hiring,
whether you stay or not. We're bigger than Like, we're
no players bigger than the team. That's their model. It's

(16:15):
on the wall there like you know what I'm saying,
Like it's there no players bigger than the team. So
I can honestly see the Michigan brass. If someone there
there's quiet rumblings of like you're saying, now, man, he
didn't live up to expectations. We're spending ten million dollars
on this man. We don't as look at our losses
now and we're not and we're not tripping because how
do we know? We don't got another quarterback that we're
already talking to, Like college football's grind me. If he's

(16:38):
out the door, trust me. You don't think they're on
the phone with three other quarterbacks right now? They are?

Speaker 2 (16:43):
They are, of course they are.

Speaker 3 (16:44):
They are. So if you want to walk out the
door find now. I'm not saying that's the case. I
would just like to see everybody say, listen, for the
next year, let's keep this in the house and let's
rebuild this thing, because this thing is ugly, and no
new coach is going to erase this. Next year, he's
gonna expect to be coming in. Say we hire a
new coach in underwear stays right, people gonna win national championship.
And if that don't happen, it could get uglier than

(17:06):
it is right now.

Speaker 2 (17:07):
By the way, is this what we wanted with the nils?
Just the way it was supposed to be, with the transfer,
highest bidder every year every year?

Speaker 3 (17:15):
Is it that business in America?

Speaker 5 (17:17):
Though?

Speaker 3 (17:17):
The aren't ear? Come on, man, you live some great
it is? And I just didn't come on.

Speaker 2 (17:20):
I just didn't think it was going to get like this.

Speaker 3 (17:22):
I didn't you start paying people? How does that when
you start openly paying people? You know, like somebody probably said, man,
is this how we thought the tech world would be?
One day? Where it's just the highest bid, or the
network could come in and buy up the most conferences
and do this, and like in every business, somebody acts
at one point. Man, is this what we really wanted
with networks being able to buy the sec by the NFL,

(17:46):
buy this by that, and then no one else can
eat no one. Everybody else has to lay off four
hundred employees, five hundred employees once every eighteen months. I
see it. I see it happen all the time.

Speaker 1 (17:55):
So do you?

Speaker 3 (17:56):
So we say this about everything? So what it is? Man?
Just get me the product. If long as the product
on the field. Maybe I'm selfish, long as the product
on the flo these days.

Speaker 5 (18:04):
Dope.

Speaker 3 (18:04):
Listen, man, I'm all right with all it off the
field stuff that doesn't evolve me.

Speaker 2 (18:07):
He's VJ Husky, I'm Arnie spat you by the way.

a little growl real quick Vjay my Arizona Wildcats. Oh
my goodness, up twenty one over Alabama.

Speaker 3 (19:53):
I say it.

Speaker 2 (19:54):
They were done by two points at the have so hey.

Speaker 3 (19:56):
Quick question for you, Arnie. Do you know who this
is playing right now?

Speaker 2 (20:01):
Uh? Vanillayes?

Speaker 3 (20:03):
Are you joking? Do you notice?

Speaker 2 (20:08):
No? I don't know.

Speaker 3 (20:09):
This is run DMC. It's the first rap. It's the
first rap Christmas ever. Yeah, yeah, this is run DMC.
This is like eighty seven eighty eight, it's back then.
I like what we play all Christmas. I love it,
especially when we play Christmas in Hollis by Run DMC.
That's my girl, Mary Mac on the boards. I miss you, Mary,
I love it.

Speaker 2 (20:29):
I love it. I gotta get army Navy. Yeah, let's
go a couple of things of that. First of all,
those helmets are like a work of art. They are.
They're gorgeous emotionally, are they really? Do you know? It's
funny you said that, but it really does get you emotional.
I saw the part where they showed how they made it,
and it's just, my goodness, man, what it stands for. Oh,

(20:53):
it's just incredible, absolutely incredible. The jerseys. I would actually
collect that if I like saw that at a booth
or something, and else I had say how much for
the helme? And I want to get that. That certainly
is inspirational. You know, when I was younger, I used
to go out of my way to watch Army Navy
with my dad. If there was other games. I'll be

(21:14):
honest with you VJ. If Alabama was playing or Georgia
or whoever, probably wouldn't be tuning into Alabama Navy if
it wasn't this standalone game. I enjoy it. My partner
from Sunday, Chris Plankey, he was at the game plug
His son goes to Army, which is absolutely phenomenal. What

(21:34):
type of not only student, what type of human being
you have to be to get accepted to a school
like that is just astronomical.

Speaker 3 (21:44):
I gotta say that.

Speaker 2 (21:47):
But I just don't feel like it has it resonates,
especially with the young audience nowadays, people under thirty five
and they're forty, it's just not important. They probably don't
even know the game exists. If they. If you are
watching college football, what do you think did you? Did
you watch it?

Speaker 3 (22:03):
Well? Number one, I never missed an Army Navy game.

Speaker 2 (22:06):
I've watched.

Speaker 3 (22:06):
I've watched, you know, maybe about thirty five, thirty six
of them in a row. You know what I'm saying.
I come from army family. My mother was a full
bird in the Pentagon United States Army. My father was
an airborne ranger in the eleven Bravo. I was a fourteen
roal Meal Air Defense Artillery. My brother was a ninety
one LIMA medical assistant. Like, the Army is in my blood,
and I disagree with you. I do think this game

(22:27):
is watched. This game is still to me behind, uh.
It always has been as behind Ohio State and Michigan
as far in my opinion as rivalries is concerned. There
there's not one bigger than this one, other than that game.
And you mentioned the helmets. It's just the pageantry. It's
everything that's involved. It's for the Commander in chief cup.

(22:48):
The President of the United States is there today, he
was on the field during the coin toss. It's it's
you see all the cadets in, all the in all
the other soldiers in a ship and seemen that are there,
and most of those guys on those fields, man, they're
not going pro and they know they're going off to
do other great things to defend the freedoms of the world.

(23:11):
And when you talk about this game, and even like
today's game, heart wrenching army has three opportunities to recover
fumbles in the last three twenty seven and instead of
the guy the goal line falling on it on the
three bad things happen. Coach Covington in the eighth grade

(23:32):
of Belle Middle School and Woovers, Virginia used to always
tell me bad things happen on as a defender when
you try to pick a fumble up, just fall on
the ball. We know you want to take it to
the house and scoop and score and all that. We
get it, but we get the ball back and that
was a crazy man. Two opportunities to seal the game,
because that seals the game for them. Two opportunities man
to seal the game.

Speaker 2 (23:52):
Now, I know you're a military family, but I'm just
saying in general, our listeners forty and under, maybe even
over than that. Who knows it doesn't have the same
experiences you have. I'm just swelling if it has the
same meeting that it that other people out.

Speaker 3 (24:09):
Well, not meaning they everybody doesn't served. But your your
statement was you don't think that it means as much
anymore watching the game. You're right, Yea, I disagree. I
think it still means the same, even if more today
with more access to watch games more. Hey, how about this,
Let's look at the ratings tomorrow morning and see what
it drew. That'll tell me everything I need to know,
because somebody told me five years ago Nila trans Reporter

(24:29):
is going to ruin college football. And some of these
games are breaking viewership records, like it's it's crazy, right
over twenty five million people are watching Michigan and Ohio State. Oh,
but no one cares about that game. It's the iron Ball? Okay,
how many people watch the iron Ball? Okay, So there's
the answer right there. It's about viewership and and who's
watching what this game? Just still, it still means a
lot to me. I think it means a lot to

(24:50):
college football, means a lot to the country. A lot
of great coaches there, great players have come from both
these schools. And no matter what the right this is, truly,
aren'tie throw the records out the window? Game? Our Navy
should have won by twenty Honestly, they did the much
better the better team that the much better team. I've
watched both programs all year long. They have the much
better team. But in this game, man, you block a

(25:11):
little harder, Arnie, you tackle a little, you wrap up
a little tighter. Man, your vision's a little sharper. You
know you're a little more aggressive. Well, you saw after
the game. You've never seen Army Navy players kind of
face to face, forehead to forehead. There was some tension
at the end of this bad boy at midfield and
coaches had to get in and separate. Tells me, yeah, homie,

(25:31):
this ain't just footage.

Speaker 2 (25:32):
There was some hits. There's no doubt about that.

Speaker 3 (25:35):
It was physical out there.

Speaker 2 (25:36):
Yeah, I love grown Man.

Speaker 3 (25:37):
It was grown Man out there today.

Speaker 2 (25:38):
By the way, for the best pregame show every weekend,
be sure to tune into Fox Sports radios Countdown the Kickoff.
It's presented by BETHAMGM every Saturday and Sunday morning. We
will count it down to all of the biggest games
for three hours right up until kickoffs. So for all
the best plays up to the second injury news tuned
in The Countdown the Kickoff, presented by Ben and GM

(26:01):
every Saturday and Sunday morning right here on Fox Sports
Radio and the iHeart App. I do want to come back.
I do want to get into the bowl games. And
we are going to get in the AARP. I think
everybody knows what that is. But first our first check
in whether our buddy Steve the Saga business, oh the
Saga miror mirror on the wall. Who's the best college

(26:22):
basketball team of the ball.

Speaker 6 (26:25):
It's the team that's up by twenty right now.

Speaker 2 (26:27):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (26:29):
By the way, AARP is the only organization that lets
already in Arizona correct. Number one in the country is
up eighty nine sixty nine against twelfth ranked Alabama in
this game in Birmingham tonight. Also in college hoops, we've
got in about ten minutes a game in Seattle, number
eight Gonzaga against number twenty five UCLA. Already in college basketball,

(26:50):
Number nineteen Kansas won in overtime at nc State seventy
seven seventy six, Ninth ranked Michigan State won seventy six
seventy two at Penn State, and number twenty three Nebraska
won on a last second three at thirteenth rank Illinois
eighty three to eighty two semifinals going on. In the
NBA Cup tournament tonight in Vegas, New York eliminated Orlando

(27:11):
one thirty two to one, twenty forty points for Jalen.

Speaker 2 (27:14):
Brun and the parade the NBA.

Speaker 6 (27:17):
Cup and banner. I'm sure yeah, Well, Chris, with the
next history the last fifty years, they probably will put
up a better They did shoot sixty one percent from
the floor and a great game going on. I don't
know who's seeing it, but a great game going on
right now with Oklahoma City trailing by a point, Spurs
ninety nine thunder ninety eight under four minutes left. In

(27:38):
the other semifinal. This is at Oklahoma City team that
isn't just top seeded. They've won sixteen games in a row.
They're twenty four and one this season. Spur center Victor
woman Yama off the bench, returned after missing a month
with a strained calf. In sixteen minutes, he has fifteen
points and eight rebounds. The calves Evan Mobley is due
to miss two to four weeks with a straying calf.

(27:59):
In the NHL. Among the thirteen games, Minnesota and New
Jersey with wins, Florida four nothing over Dallas. Winnipeg at
home beat Washington five to one. The Saint Louis Cardinals
are signing right handed pitcher Dustin may X Dodger and
Red Sox. Earlier, the Tigers reportedly agreed to a deal
with veteran closer Kenley Jansen. The Mets are signing infielder
Jorge Polonco. The Colts activated quarterback Philip Rivers. He was

(28:23):
just signed this week out of retirement. The Colts have
lost four of five. Navy defeated Army seventeen to sixteen
on a touchdown pass with about six and a half
minutes left in Baltimore, and it was on a fourth
in goal. The college Football Playoff starts next Friday with
Alabama at Oklahoma. The bowl game tonight has just ended.
The LA Bowl goes to Washington thirty eight to ten

(28:45):
over Boise State. It was three to three after the
first quarter. The Heisman Trophy was won by Indiana quarterback
Fernando Mendoza, transfer from Cal Transfers have won the Heisman
four straight years. And by the way, I looked up
the TV ratings in college football a couple of weekends ago,
there wasn't a single college football game that got six
million viewers, but Army Navy as a standalone offering a

(29:09):
couple of years ago, got seven million viewers.

Speaker 2 (29:11):
Oh, get out here. I don't believe you told you.

Speaker 6 (29:14):
Last year.

Speaker 2 (29:15):
I don't believe you.

Speaker 6 (29:16):
Last year Army Navy got nine million bank viewers.

Speaker 2 (29:20):
Get out of yank.

Speaker 6 (29:22):
The Black Friday game with Georgia Georgia Tech did not
get nine million viewers. Being standalone on what people still
consider a college football Saturday means something aside from the
tradition and the history.

Speaker 2 (29:34):
Back to you, thank you, something to do every day. PJ. Husky,
Arnie Spaniard for Jason Martin, Aaron Torres as we're coming
to you alive at the Fox Sports Radio studios. Well,
I never would have guessed that the stand alone does help,
but not I'm not going to say that's the sole reason.
That's some pretty good numbers for Army Navy game. Obviously
a lot of the military love tuning into that game

(29:55):
and still like doing that.

Speaker 3 (29:56):
You know what I mean, People that are attacked to
the military doesn't have to be people in the military.
If you know someone in the Army. All those cadets
there have family members, right those cadets there have friends.
You know what I'm saying. It's in, It was in,
It was in b Moore. That's a great place to
have it. It's right outside the nation's capitals, right outside DC.
You want to get you a crab cake while you're there,
you can't get you can't get a crab cake like

(30:17):
from anywhere in the world like you can in Washington,
d C. In the Baltimore area. It still matters. Man,
really quick sidebar on this bowl game that just ended. Yeah,
the jetfish thing makes sense now right. I forgot they
played their bowl game this early, so he essentially can't
be the guy like there. He doesn't have to coach

(30:38):
another game.

Speaker 2 (30:39):
You know what I'm saying, Well, they could have announced
it even if he had a bowl game.

Speaker 3 (30:42):
I got, but but out of but out of Michigan
needs to say face right now in every fast as possible. Okay,
they don't need to do anything that could be looked
as bad our negative knight. But I I forgot this
game was tonight and we came in and sold I said,
whoa hold up? And I was topping off. You know,
he goes out and beats up a boise stay team

(31:02):
put thirty eight on it. I'm just saying, if he's
if he's auditioning, that was a pretty damn good audition
right there.

Speaker 2 (31:09):
You and I both, And that's what I was going
to bring up. I did not know that the bowl
season started today. I only realized that I was looking
for Army Navy score and I said, oh, yeah, that's
why Washington is tonight against Poise start a boldseason. Enough
is enough. We have a full fledged playoff going on. VJ.
I'm ready to cancel the Bulls the rest of them.

(31:33):
You didn't care about tonight. Well, I'm not gonna talk
for you. I didn't care about tonight. I don't care
about most of the bowl games. Only bowl game I
care about for the most part, is I want to
see what Arizona is going to do. Otherwise, why would
I care? Like it's like in the NFL playoffs are starting,
Why would I care if the Jets, you know, we're

(31:54):
playing the Giants even though both teams aren't in the playoffs,
You wouldn't. It wouldn't make a difference. So why not
just give her to the ball season, expand the playoff
to sixteen, maybe twenty four.

Speaker 3 (32:08):
That way, I don't have to keep hearing, well, I don't.

Speaker 2 (32:10):
What if they have to keep hearing James Madison doesn't
deserve to be in there. They're gonna get clobbered. If
we have twenty four, then we could just bypass that.

Speaker 3 (32:19):
That's ridiculous.

Speaker 2 (32:20):
But I think we need to get rid of the
ball games because most of us don't care. Even though
they say they have great ratings. That's all I hear
from ESPN. I'm ready to move past that.

Speaker 3 (32:29):
What do you think, Well, you can research what they say,
so it's not even though they say they have great ratings,
just go look it up. They might be telling the truth.
I don't look at nobody's going.

Speaker 2 (32:38):
To the game all that.

Speaker 3 (32:40):
I mean, here's it was an important Let me just
start from the beginning. If you're saying who don't care? Yeah,
you know who cares? The players care, their families care,
the schools care. Because money is involved in all it is.

Speaker 2 (32:50):
I'm just gonna jump in there. No, tra Dame didn't
care as well as Iowa state, in Kansas state. But
go ahead, Well.

Speaker 3 (32:56):
That doesn't mean that was right though I thought, listen,
you know, being a Michigan guy, I ain't got much
love for nor to Day's football program. I laughed. I laughed, like,
oh my god, you're pulling the I'm gonna take my
ball and go home. Ell Norder, Dame. Wow, this is
this is the entitlement you guys feel in South Bend.

(33:18):
Won't join the conference. You want to play around and
be your little independent with your NBC deal all those years,
and you're.

Speaker 2 (33:24):
Gonna You're gonna take your ball and go home. Butt
players started doing it first.

Speaker 3 (33:31):
Guys that weren't playing for a national championship knew they
were gonna be a big time pick. Hey, I'm sitting out.
I'm not gonna put myself. Marvin Harrison Junior didn play
in this bowl game. I remember Jabrill Peppers from Michigan.
He was an All American. He didn't play in the
bowl game against against Florida State that year. Jake Butt played.
And now he's sitting on TV talking after fall, running
the draft and getting drafted by the Broncos and never

(33:53):
having that knee the same again. So I get why
it's happening. But anyway, I laughed, know the Dame. As
far as the bowls games, the bowl games, no, no, no, no,
there there are people. Just because I don't care doesn't
mean that I have to negate the people who do care.
People care, the networks care, the sponsor's care. Trust me,

(34:13):
there's so much money in television network in sports. You
start taking games away, people's pockets start getting light, and
ain't nobody about their pockets getting light. That's just the
true business of it. Did I know the game was
on tonight? No, I was stuck in army Navy. I
was being a dad with my children, had other things
to do. Got hit me up about joining you tonight, Like,
so my brain switched over, started doing those for NFL

(34:35):
for all the games tomorrow. But I tell you this,
Jeff Fish cared because he got a chance to put
himself on display up against nothing tonight other than this
born Arizona basket. But it's not a number one. Is
that a mistake, Steve? Is that a number one.

Speaker 2 (34:51):
Mistakes number?

Speaker 3 (34:52):
There's a number missing in front of that, like a
like a two or three.

Speaker 2 (34:57):
That goes in front, that goes in.

Speaker 3 (34:59):
Front of that one. O great, great year to have it.
But people, trust me, there's enough people to care for you.
Eliminate the bulls. People keep waiting, keep waiting, on that.
Keep waiting on that happened.

Speaker 2 (35:09):
I'll tell you what I want to come back. I
I do want to ask you one more thing about
notre demo. From the shout the hour, I did mention
aarp uh and we were giving away some award called
the Heisman. I I guess we should talk about it. Yeah,
they did, they gave it away, but well, I guess
we should talk about it. I mean, Steve Hartman does
have a vote. I don't know if you knew that,
but does he.

Speaker 3 (35:29):
And there's rumors he used to work for an NFL team.

Speaker 2 (35:32):
I can't believe it. VJ Husky, Artie spat you're for
Jason Martin, Eric Dorres right here on Fox Sports a radio.

Speaker 1 (35:43):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 2 (35:47):
Good they think everyone. VJ Husky Arni span your a
look at me. I could have been a DJ. We're
gonna be just jumping there on the instrumental part.

Speaker 3 (35:55):
I'm good.

Speaker 2 (35:57):
For the guys tonight. I'm good man. I didn't jump
over any of the words or anything in for Jason
Martin and of course Aaron Torres were live at the
Fox Sports Radio studios. All right, I do want to
get to a couple of things before we finish out
this hour quick first hour, unbelievable. We were brought up.
Note Tre Dame, you took a little shot at them.

(36:20):
My question is this to stop this from happening? Do
they have to join a conference? I personally don't think so.
Everybody else is clamoring they need to. I'm in the minority.
I think they do kind of schedule tough. Next year
they're gonna be in the top twelve, but that's for
another time. Do they need to join a conference like
the Big ten? Or are they okay as independent?

Speaker 3 (36:41):
I don't care. That's my answer, man, I don't care
what nor Date.

Speaker 2 (36:44):
Listen, you're not a notere Dame snuff.

Speaker 3 (36:46):
It's not no My thing is this though it's twenty
twenty five, Like we're both old enough. How long we
been talking about this? Aren't the right right? So I
don't care at this point.

Speaker 2 (36:56):
Man, this is lowly because they got snubbed and now
it's the whole thing they like, if you can right.

Speaker 3 (37:00):
It's a whole thing again. Well, if you don't want no, man, listen, Miami,
norre Dame and Alabama. We knew going into Sunday morning
two of those three were getting in. It was just
how it was gonna be viewed and how the committee
was gonna look at him Bama. In my opinion, I
told both this bo bitchy and when our producers here

(37:22):
on another show, they're gonna every year there's gonna be
a three lost team in the playoff. If you don't
think it's only gonna be oh one or two losses, no,
because when you have brands like Bama, and to Obama's credit, honestly, dude,
they've earned it. And I know people hate to hear that,
but it is true. It's Alabama, like you want to
either root for them or hate against them. Where if

(37:44):
it's Notre Dame, we can always lean on welp join
the conference. We can always lean on that. And that's
their problem. They don't want to join the conference for
whatever the underlying reasons are. At this point, Arnie Spaniels
thinking genius, I do not care.

Speaker 2 (37:59):
Okay, Well, yeah, in a way, I'm okay with them
being independent. I know a lot of people are saying
they got to be in the Big ten. I know
they're really mad with the ACC. I'm wondering how that's
going to go ahead.

Speaker 3 (38:11):
And play out.

Speaker 2 (38:12):
They were really sore. I saw a lot of the
tweets that Brady Quinn put out our very own from
Fox Sports, and of course with two pros and the Joe,
he took a Barraza shots. I gotta be honest with
you and handled it real well. So I'm curious to
see if this does push Notre Dame to a conference
or or probably not really real real quick Heisman, I

(38:35):
mean our one almost in the books. Congratulations to Fernando Mendoza.
But I don't know, is it's still the pageantry you like, Gardy, namy,
you love it? Did you care? Did you watch the
Heisman Hour or what?

Speaker 3 (38:48):
It's still the same thing. It's just that the play
was underwhelming this year. So we can't let that take away. Yeah,
we can't let that take away from what it still
is for the and to the day he dies and forever.
When you say his name, you must put Heisman Trophy
winner with it. It means something. It carries weight for generations.

(39:13):
His great grandkids are gonna be able to go into
some lobby or trophy room in Indiana and see that
trophy there or replica of it with their great Granddaddy's
picture in his name and nobody can ever change that.
I just thought that the play was underwhelming this year
for us to see a clear cut guy. I mean

(39:35):
it was Carson Becketts. He decided to throw four picks
and when right, you know what I'm saying, Like it
was always somebody in it. It was it was Simpson
from from Alabama. He goes into Athens in September and
beats Georgia. Then it kind of looks good the rest
of the year. Then has that has the SEC championship game,
like it was just nobody in Mendoza the minute he
beat the school down South, I told I told Steve
when I walked in the next morning, I said, well,

(39:56):
you know who's winning Heisman?

Speaker 2 (39:58):
Right, right?

Speaker 3 (39:58):
I was.

Speaker 2 (39:59):
I was definitely you're right. The statistics were on the wall.
I mean, I totally agree with you one on that. Right.
That's why it was okay with Mendoza winning. And by
the way, he's very likable. I do like him. I
like just like his attitude and his aw shucks thing.
All right, I were one of the books real quick,
VJ Husky, Arnie Span you'l in for the guys come back.
We got NFL to get to. That's next. Here on

(40:21):
Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (40:24):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 2 (40:27):
Oh, good evening, everybody. VJ Husky, Arnie Spaniar. We're in
for the guys tonight, Jason Martin and Aaron Torres. I
keep wanting to say it his best friend Aaron Torres,
right right, I thought that, alright, like his best friend Aeron,

(40:48):
And I'm sure they're good friends all right here on
Fox Sports Radio in off the Bench night filled in
for the guys. Ive from the Fox Sports Radio studios.
By the way, all the Christmas TV shows are on.
You know, I still enjoy watching I gotta be honest
with this, the you know, Frosty, the Snowman or whatever

(41:11):
whatever it comes out. I gotta stop, whether it's The
Peanuts or anything like that and just watch like five
or ten minutes and just kind of enjoy, you know,
back in the day, you know what I mean. I'm
sure you watch it with your kids all the time.

Speaker 3 (41:23):
Oh man. The other day, so I have a confession
to make. Yeah, I just saw the Jim Carrey version
of The Gritch who Stole Christmas, Oh for the very
first time. Earlier this week, I've never seen that movie
because it comes out on like two thousand and two
thousand and one. At that time, Man, I'm I'm in
the military, I'm ripping and running, I'm party, I'm chilling.
I'm not I'm not watching movies like that. And there

(41:45):
was a Christmas movie I got into. I was watched
the Old Doctor Sue's Gritch from nineteen sixty seven, the
original one. I was watched that one. But my daughter
Journey loves the Grinch and I thought she would be
scared of it because she's scared of Heath Ledger's Joker.
I can't watch I can't watch Dark Knight with her
in the She said, no, Daddy, the monster turned at off.
I can't watch Batman. But I thought, Okay, she's probably

(42:05):
gonna be scared.

Speaker 2 (42:06):
She's a Romero. But that's besides right, right.

Speaker 3 (42:09):
I know you are. I know where you're going. I
watched that Batman too. Come on, man, he played the
Joker in the TV series with Burt with Bert warning
those guys stop exactly exactly. So she Daddy, want to
watch the Gris? Dad, watch the Gris. I'm like, I
think you're gonna be scared, dude, she loves it, and

(42:29):
I sit on the sofa with her. The other day,
kept her home from school because she had a doctor's boyman,
so I stay home with her. We watched it twice.
And that movie is amazing. And I know I'm late.
I know I'm twenty five years late, but I'm like,
oh my god, this is gonna be in my rotation
now every year. It's Jim Carrey's grins. That thing was

(42:50):
brilliantly done by Ron Howard. I've never seen it before,
so yeah, and I watched the Old School one. So
I watched Home Alone one and two like three times
each already. So it's just it's just white noise in
the background while I'm you know, folding laundry or cooking dinner.
You just put a Christmas movie on, just turn it
up and move. I watched Cruise the other night with
Bill Murray.

Speaker 2 (43:07):
Remember, you guys get nice weather out there in southern California.
We get the late degrees all week to u during
the winter time, so it feels like Christmas out here. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (43:17):
True, it's been eighty Arnie, it's been eighty degrees damn
week long. I had to take I had to take
my hoodie off one day like own up. I thought
it was gonna be chilling that it is hot as
hell out here. Yeah, it's been eighty degrees all week
long out here in Los Angeles.

Speaker 2 (43:32):
All right, Uh, before we start getting into the NFL
and obviously talking about Philip Rivers and boy, I've never
seen so many people with different takes on Philip Rivers.
What one article or not even an article, one story
I would have thrown at you. I didn't tell you
I was gonna get to this. But but DRK coach
Bobby Hurley, the head coach in Arizona State basketball, Yes,

(43:55):
uh what all fun his tie right? Like him and
his brother Danny Hurley over Yukon to do to sc
We've talked about this before, screaming, the yelling, the losing
their marbles. But in this case, Arizona State was trailing
Santa Clara by nineteen and he got ejected, picked up
two technical fouls in the first half, thrown out of

(44:18):
the game, all within ten seconds. His team comes back
and they win the game. I was going to rip
him saying, you know, enough is enough, but obviously worked
in this case. You're a coach, I mean, football is different.
You're not going to lose your marbles and pick up
fifteen yard penalties all the time. That just kills your team,

(44:40):
and it kills the drive. And obviously it's something you
don't want to do. But enough is enough, man, every time,
every play, every call, you know, every time they've got
the ball. I was at the Yukon Arizona game and
I just went out of my way to watch two
or three minutes of Danny Hurley waving his arms and
I'm like, I call that he plays. He just waves

(45:02):
his arms like a lunatics. Just enough, Let the kids
play a little bit without screaming the instructions over and
over again. I just but it did work this time though, VJ.
They did come back and they won the game.

Speaker 3 (45:16):
Yeah, but is it sustainable?

Speaker 2 (45:18):
Right?

Speaker 3 (45:18):
Just because it worked one time doesn't mean it's gonna
keep working. You want to do what keeps working. That's
why scientists do experiments, right, and they chart everything, they
write everything down. What works, We're gonna stick with what's
not working put on this piece of paper that's going
in the trash. I am not a Hurley coach family fan,
I think, especially especially Ukon's Hurley. I I can do anytime.

(45:43):
Anytime you challenge fans with police officers behind you. See
the man and me. Now see, I'm not a sports
talk guy right now, I'm a man. This is this
is this is VJ. Vernie, Eugene Husky. I gave you
all a government, nobody looking for me. I got no warrants.
This is me talking right now. You talking real tough

(46:04):
to some fans, like waving people to come down to
you like one, you're tough or you can just number one,
you shouldn't be doing that. But when you got police
with you, like security with you, then come on man
like you to me where I come from, that's called corny.
Like you're corny. I'm not even waste myself, you know.

Speaker 2 (46:23):
To the referees, just yeah, you're doing their job, you
know what I mean.

Speaker 3 (46:28):
I'm just using that example because that shows you his character.
Right now, coaches are going to be Demarster won the court.
I'm talking about watching the guy in multiple situations, not
just once, Arnie. In multiple situations. I'm watching a guy
challenge fans. You come down, do something like watching his mouth,
Come do something, dude, You're not like first of all,
you're you're the head coach of a big time, historic,

(46:51):
blue blood college basketball program. That's the last thing I
want to see if I'm an ad. But you went
back to back. I guess that gives you a little
I guess you went back back. We all know that
gives you more leisure to be stupid and to be childish,
and to be immature and to be you think you
think certain coaches will get fired if they just won
a national championship with some of the stuff we recently said,

(47:12):
Probably not. We figure out how to get by this.
He just put up a natty. So yeah, I'm just
Bobby and Bobby, and Bobby's the same way.

Speaker 2 (47:20):
But he except without the championships.

Speaker 3 (47:24):
Well he's got the last name though, and he does
got the championships. He does got the championships as a player.
Doesn't matter, doesn't matter you could with championships. To me
are championships forever. I don't care what level they were
on and where you got him and where you are now.
He can still parade himself as a guy who won.

Speaker 1 (47:43):
Now.

Speaker 3 (47:43):
Of course, the kids he's recruiting has no idea that
he played with Thomas Hill and Grant Hill and Christian
Lane and unless he tells her they have no idea
where way too far removed. But I just think that
Bravado on that ego with the last name just just
cares and I could just do without it.

Speaker 4 (47:57):
Man.

Speaker 3 (47:57):
I'm just you know, I'm cool. Listen, you don't remember, Bob,
I saw remnants of Bobby Knight towards the late, but
you were alive and saw him in his heyday of
throwing cheers, four arm fore arm in players in the chest,
you know, you know, forearming guys up into the neck.
And there were people that said it was okay, and
there were people that couldn't stand it. It was just
the same. It's the same now stuff where you can't
be physical, uh with these players anymore. You'll you'll never

(48:20):
coach again. If we get that on camera, all right, VJ.

Speaker 2 (48:23):
Now, of course, the big topic, or at least one
of the big topics this week and sports Radio, is
gonna be the return of Philip Rivers. We actually found
out he is now going to start this Sunday. He's
gonna start tomorrow today the past midnight here on the
East Coast. All kinds of different views from different people

(48:45):
out there, people calling it disrespectful, saying it's ridiculous.

Speaker 3 (48:53):
Where do you stand with it?

Speaker 2 (48:54):
Hurt? I love it?

Speaker 3 (48:57):
Do you?

Speaker 2 (48:57):
I absolutely love it? Why one? I want to see
what he could do after five years of being on
the sideline. Okay, we always talked about, well can Kaepernick
come back? Or can this guy come back? Or can
Brady come back? He's been gone two years, three years,
four years? Well, now we finally get the answer that question.
What happens to a guy's body when you're away five

(49:19):
years and somebody comes on the full fledged bledz and
hit you at forty four years old. We're gonna find out.
I think it's a great story. I can't wait to
see it. I now have interest in that. I mean,
if you told me I can at least see one game.
I want to see what he's going to do. I

(49:40):
don't think it's so disrespectful. Now from what I've been
told of what I've heard from, I think Doug Golli
brought this up. It is a special type of offense.
He runs it in high school with his son. He
knows the system. It's tough to pick up on his
short notice. I don't know if all that's true. And
he was one of the that they could pick up.

(50:02):
I'm okay with it, but I'm I'm all in. I'm
full fledged and VJ. I can't wait to see what he's.

Speaker 3 (50:09):
Going to do.

Speaker 2 (50:09):
And I love it.

Speaker 3 (50:10):
I I mean, listen, Phillip's my guy. That's number one.
Let's start there. Anybody's been following me long enough in
his business. I've been in there twelve fifty years now.
Philip Rivers has always been a.

Speaker 2 (50:21):
G to me.

Speaker 3 (50:22):
I ain't got no beef for Philip Rivers. That's my guy.
But he hasn't played football in fourty five years.

Speaker 2 (50:27):
Right.

Speaker 3 (50:28):
Football is not a sport that you could just roll
out of bed and put on some flip flops and
grab a bag of Doritos in a in a juice
box and go to the field and get down. That's
not how this is not still feels good though, This
is not This is not pickleball. You know, you can't
just roll out of bed and go be a pick
a ball all star in the state of Vermont. This
is how this works. He is going to get hit

(50:51):
by somebody at some point, and you ain't been hit
for five years and forty five years old, however old
he is. That's a different type of hit man. Now,
as far as the schematics go, Hey, if it's one
two three re re release one two release one two,
turn around, hand off and listen, they're gonna play like that. Hey,
he might be alright out there, but if you gonna

(51:12):
ask play action and then look to the third option. Yeah,
by that time, homeboy, somebody's coming. And I'm pretty sure
the ego of an opposing player, Arnie wants to lay
some plastic on it. Oh I did, How dare you
think you could come step back into Hey? What you
did was great?

Speaker 4 (51:32):
Man?

Speaker 3 (51:33):
But you the like Tupac told Omar Ebsen juice, it's
my time, you the pass bro. Like you the pass bro.
You gotta go, and I and I can legally put
you on a sideline for the rest of your career today,
and we're gonna come out not dirty, not in a
dirty man. But hey, I get a I get an
open blitz, miss pick up brother, I am not thinking

(51:54):
about Oh it's Philip Rivers. Let me just hit him
in le And I know this.

Speaker 2 (51:58):
Is a legal but you don't think the defense is
among each other. First, one of the lays of look
on him gets one hundred Bucks.

Speaker 3 (52:04):
We already know something like that was going on in
the league, and then we found out teams coming out saying, hey,
we did that in the seventies in the eighties, they
just got caught, which is letting you know the carderie
of a locker room. The answer I will give you
is yes, I ain't got no news on it. I
don't have any information, no players, no money value. But
I played, and I've been a coach, I've been an analyst,

(52:26):
I've been a report I've been a journalist. I've been
every day. These guys, yeah, they they want to lay
some plaster to the filler. But kudos to him for saying,
you know what, I just want to give it one
more I'm always for anybody, Arnie just giving it one
more whirl. At what really what really held him together?

Speaker 2 (52:42):
The winner's mentality, vij you know, and people like I'm all,
you shouldn't come back, No, you shouldn't come back. But
that's that's the way winners are. That's the why he
played in the NFL. That's why he's the upper one
percent of one percent, you know, right, played.

Speaker 3 (52:55):
Played the AFC Championship game and bad weather on the
road with a torn while his Hall of Fame running
back sat on the sideline with a hood on. That's
the type of peaches, that's the type of intestinal four
to two. This guy has trash talker. But you remember
when Philip Rivers was at NC State. Let's go back there.

(53:15):
He almost single handedly revived that program. Tell me why
I'm wrong. We weren't talking about n C State in
the seventies or the eighties until a guy by the
name of Philip Rivers and a skinny, light skinned receiver
by the name of Tory Holt showed up. Then we
started to go, Wow, n C State might beat Florida

(53:36):
State this year. Remember those days, Flint m C State.
They might beat Georgia Tech and Joe Hamilton and that crew.
You know what I'm saying when Georgia Tech was running
the triple option and crushing and killing everybody. But kudos
to anybody man, especially Anfllow Man. Hey, guys, what we
do physically to our bodies aren'tis athletes. Man, It doesn't last,
and you always want to go back. We work with

(53:58):
a bunch of NFL people here. How many of these
guys say, Man, if I can just go just one
more just one more Sunday. I don't know if I
want to do the offseason and train and which I get,
But you're telling me I can. I can sign a
day contract and just go put the pads on again
and just go do it one more time. That's how
these men are wired. So I'm all for that. I
just don't know that Seattle defense is monstrous, man, I

(54:20):
just don't know how it's gonna turn out.

Speaker 2 (54:21):
But four, is it disrespectful like to some of the
other quarterbacks that are out there without a job that
are younger, you know, like you know Cam Newton I
think was outspoken about that.

Speaker 3 (54:34):
No, No, Cam. And here's the thing. I was a
huge Camp fan too. Cam Newton has turned into quite
the like character.

Speaker 2 (54:42):
Now, So who.

Speaker 3 (54:42):
Would take you seriously trying to come back and play
quarterback for them to a team that still got a
shot to make the playoffs and do something. And the
last look I had of Cam Newton, do we remember
what that looked like? What do you think it looks
like now four or five years removed?

Speaker 2 (54:55):
Right right, Let's just be real. I mean there's also
a younger quarterback that maybe just don't have a team
where you can sign off a practice squad or something
to that effect. I know the trade deadline has passed,
so you can't really go ahead and do anything to
that effect. But you know, Philip Rivers forty four years old,

(55:16):
there's people out there that want to see him fail.
They think it's disrespectful, they think they're making a mockery
of the league. I don't see that at.

Speaker 3 (55:24):
All, league. Okay, I'm just I'm just I'm just talking
on the undertone because that just see stuff, because stuff
like that blows me away when people speak in a
vacuum like that. So we're gonna really somehow not watch
the NFL, and and everything changes just simply because a
team that has no quarterback struggling, drafted the wrong guy

(55:47):
two years ago, has got nowhere to go, and someone
that was there gave them their last playoff appearance and
really should have won that game up at Buffalo. He
overthrows the open receiver on third down and then they
missed the field goal, and that turns that whole playoff
game around because they're pushing Buffalo up and down.

Speaker 2 (56:04):
How do you think Richardson's feeling right now?

Speaker 3 (56:06):
That's on him, man, get back. He's probably he's in
his feelings, right, he's in his feelings.

Speaker 7 (56:16):
Remember he's on ir No, he is, but at the
end of the day, he there's still some stuff there
with even him, Like they drafted the wrong guy, didn't
have eight seven eight starts in college.

Speaker 3 (56:29):
That's just not gonna work in the NFL. Or we
have to lengthen when we judge these guys, which is
something I always raise my hand on. We in this
business aren't, in my opinion, have gotten to the point
where we praise and we tear down the quarterback position
way too fast on both ends. And it's almost like

(56:49):
year to year. It's almost like year to year. Oh,
he was good this year, but no, look at him
this year. Well, if he's banged up and beat up
and ninjel, of course he's not gonna be as good. Guys,
doesn't mean he still isn't that guy we saw a
year and a half ago. He's just not him now
because he's got torn hamstring.

Speaker 2 (57:03):
Year to year, we're so people want to replace the
super Bowl winning quarterback from right, All right, yeah, yeah,
just won a super Bowl last year. Yeah, I'll play
so long the draft one right, right, I'll play the
go even though I thought that was ridiculous.

Speaker 3 (57:16):
Tom Brady is a go Joe Montana's number two. You
can't you can't be you can't be undefeed in the
super Bowl in my opinion, with like four rings, no interceptions,
and be less than two. I'm sorry, that just doesn't
make sense to me. Eleven touchdowns, zero interceptions, four known
super bowls. That's number two all time. Brady's been to
ten and got seven rings. You can't not have him
at one. That's just common sense.

Speaker 2 (57:38):
Yeah, And like I said, though, people don't want to
wait a long time for these quarterbacks to develop.

Speaker 3 (57:45):
Right.

Speaker 2 (57:45):
As for Philip Rivers, I'm all in. I want to
see what he's gonna do. I'm sure we're gonna be seeing,
you know, cuttings all the time on Sunday because they're
gonna want to show the highlights on the Red Zone
channel and stuff like that.

Speaker 3 (57:58):
Do you think he finishes the game tomorrow? This Philip
rivers Ian. Does Philip Rivers finish the game tomorrow? I
just I don't want to jix the guy man that
Seattle defense, that's Mike McDonald man that he's get Seriously,
he can get hurt tomorrow. Offensive line, banged up, can't
run the ball as well. Right now.

Speaker 2 (58:19):
He's not like those three old ladies going down the
hill in the snow when they ordered that thing from
Admire about that ad Yeah, like, ladies, come on, now,
what's wrong with you?

Speaker 3 (58:29):
Let me come uh over under two hundred and ten
yards passing Ian. I'm gonna say under Arnie, he can't.

Speaker 2 (58:36):
I might have to go on there on that too,
to be an All.

Speaker 3 (58:38):
Right, I'm going over. I'll go Philip. See, I set
you all up. Listen, man, let me tell y'all something
about Philip. I'll go fill up tomorrow. Go be out
there and sleep. It's gonna be shot gun all day.
He's not getting none of the center because I don't
know if he can get out of there. He's looking
a little pudgy. I know, y'all. I know you guys.
Come on, that's just me here, right, He's not didn't know.
I didn't know if that was real though I watched

(59:00):
video of him moving around on practice. I'm all right, dude,
he's forty five. You got a little dad belly.

Speaker 1 (59:04):
I get it.

Speaker 3 (59:04):
You play do you play to who's forty in the NFL?
I deserve over the last five years going into the hall,
and you know, you know, I get a little dad
belly from the bacon in the biscuits and cheese grits
I'm eating for breakfast now, Like I get that. But
it won't be a lot. It ain't gonna be no rollouts.
Hein gonna be no bootlegs. This is shotgun RPO and
just let Philip sling it all right.

Speaker 2 (59:25):

(59:49):
depending on where you are, let's get into it. We'll
take We'll get the games that's coming up next right
here on Fox Sports Radio. Good evening everyone, VJ Husky
are and he span you'er in for the guys night
Jason Martin and Aaron Torres here on Fox Sports Radio.
Life from the Fox Sports Radio Studios. Big Saturday Night.

(01:00:10):
We got NFL week fifteen. Ready to roll VJ, because
start things off with the Browns and the Bears before
we even get to the game. Your thoughts on Shadur
Sanders last couple of games certainly established himself as the starter,
Dylan Gabriel, I thought did a good job, but I
certainly want to see more of Schadeur. He should be

(01:00:31):
the starter, you know, barring any injury or anything the
rest of the year. I like what I've seen the
last couple of games from him.

Speaker 3 (01:00:39):
Though, Yeah, I love what I was saying from my
always new Shud can have it. I support him all
the way through college. I mean, how can a guy
lead the FBS a completion of percentage and not so
called be good in the NFL? Cleveland is a dumpster fire,
always has been when it comes to quarterbacks. We don't
need to name how many quarterbacks that they have gone
through there, including number one overall picks.

Speaker 2 (01:00:57):
To show it be over. If I had to go ahead.

Speaker 3 (01:00:59):
Right, it would take the last hour and a half
to get through all of that stuff. Man. So I
always believed in Shador. I love the fact that he
leans on his faith. I love the fact that he
comes from coach Prime and he's been he's been groomed
for this, he's been groomed for this.

Speaker 2 (01:01:15):
But still much more to learn.

Speaker 3 (01:01:17):
We all have, we all have, we all have to
get so much more to learn. And I and there's
people that are doing things like he's got a lot
of mature to do. Guess what, at my age, I
still got a lot of mature to do. You still
have a lot of mature to do. Everyone in the studio.
So I hate when people try to tag that because
I'm you know, I'm the smartest that's gonna say, Okay,
no problem. What does he need to mature at? Like,
I'm not gonna let you just leave blanket statements out

(01:01:38):
there on your door standers. You're gonna have to explain
to me because I want to really uncover that. You
just don't like the kid, and you, like I say
all the time, you've done enough radio with me, You
done enough work with me. I don't have a problem
saying I don't like a certain player. It's okay if
we don't like Josh Apple, turnover Alan, It's okay if
I don't like Lebron James. But I don't try to
hide it and try to cover it and give an undertone,

(01:02:00):
Well he needs to do this more when you can tell, dude,
you just don't like the guy, and that's okay, that's
what this business is. We don't like everybody. Everybody ain't
gonna like you. I'm not gonna like everybody else. So
I think he's doing great. I think he's gonna be
the starter there. But I if I were him, and
I talked to Eric Dickerson, Hall of Fame running back.
We had him on the End Zone show with Steve

(01:02:20):
Harmon and I. He told us that he'd heard from
someone in the NFL front office that he trusts. And
I listened to Eric Dickerson when he talks, because he's
not gonna lie. He's gonna tell you the truth of
Eric Dickerson, gonna give you the real that this was
a message they were sending to him because of his
I guess personality are because of his dad that he
got pushed to the fifth round on purpose. And when

(01:02:41):
you see a guy like mel Kiper, whether you like
him or not, when you see Mail Kuiperson on the
Draft show and go off and literally rip the NFL,
who is actually like paying like he works for the ESPN,
The NFL rip them because he could see what's going on.
I just like the fact that Shador State's professional and
knows what to say it to Mike, and we're just
gonna let time continue to play out. Man, Just give
the kid reps. Everybody, even Dylan Gabrael, everybody needs reps

(01:03:05):
in life. When you first started radio, you weren't this good.
You needed reps. I wasn't this good. I need it. Okay,
So the kid needs reps. I'm interested in this game
tomorrow because the Bears lead the league and turnover differential.
If he cannot turn the ball over, they'll be okay
because they got the defense. Their defense will show up
for him.

Speaker 2 (01:03:21):
Last teak on him if he introdure, if he does
what to learn. The perfect person to learn from is
right across the other side sideline is Kegle Williams. Look
what that guy kid has gone through the last couple
of years. He's a bust. He's this Look at his
figuretails right.

Speaker 3 (01:03:37):
I was about to say he had a lot of
variables that people didn't.

Speaker 2 (01:03:40):
He cried to his mom and I heard out about it,
and finally he's turning it around. It takes a while.

Speaker 3 (01:03:48):
It takes a while, it takes a competent franchise. He's
got a competent head coach. Like listen, man, that might
have been that might have been either that of Rabel.
That was the higher last year man. It was either
him or Mike Rabel. But Ben Jonson is legit. Somebody
tell me how Detroit's office looks right now without their
offensive coordinator exist.

Speaker 2 (01:04:04):
They have a bunch of injuries also, But yes, you're
it's not right, no, no, right, And Campbell's calling the
offensive right, he.

Speaker 3 (01:04:11):
Had to take over play calling. You see this big, mean,
old school dude with the Santa Claus bifocals on looking
down at the place she called him plays. It just
didn't fit in you and you know it.

Speaker 2 (01:04:22):
No, I mean, I agree with that. I agree with
that also, But like I said, I think Caleb Williams
has done a novel job. Matter of fact, we'll come back.
We'll start looking at that game as well as the
rest of week fifteen. Yes, first off, let's see what's trending.
We'll have a check in whether Buddy the Saga and
everybody give me a little.

Speaker 3 (01:04:43):
I'm waiting.

Speaker 6 (01:04:44):
Come on, there you go, Wildcats, There you go.

Speaker 3 (01:04:48):
I knew you weren't going to do it.

Speaker 6 (01:04:50):
By the way. At Chicago tomorrow, it's due to be
about ten degrees for Bears against Cleveland, and the Bears
are the best team in the league in turnover March
and a plus seventeen. It's due to be about ten
degrees in Cincinnati as the Bengals, with the worst defense
in the league, hosts Baltimore. Also, it's Kansas City hosting
the Chargers. Chiefs are six and seven. About twenty degrees

(01:05:12):
in case for that game.

Speaker 2 (01:05:13):
Who no Dolphins stuff? Come on, let's wow? Come on?

Speaker 6 (01:05:18):
Ye, slightly better weather for the Dolphins. Miami is playing
Monday night at Pittsburgh. No, it's not gonna be ten degrees,
but the Dolphins have won four straight. They're up to
six and seven. Number one ranked Arizona was down two
at the he wound up eating twelve ranked Alabama in Birmingham.
We'll just let him go. It's not gonna last ninety
six seventy five.

Speaker 2 (01:05:39):
We're never gonna lose again for like a decade.

Speaker 3 (01:05:42):
We're never gonna lose again ever.

Speaker 6 (01:05:44):
The Lake College basketball games in Seattle, final seconds to
the first half ASH rank Gonzaga leading Number twenty five
UCLA forty three. Forty bruins are closed because at the
line they're eleven of twelve so far. Number nine Michigan
State won seventy six seventy two at Penn State, nineteenth
frank Kansas one in overtime at NC State seventy seven

(01:06:05):
seventy six, and number twenty three Nebraska won on a
last second three at thirteenth rank Illinois eighty three to eighty.
In the NBA Cup Semifinals, Oklahoma City has been beaten.
The top seeds are outs. Tuesday's final, we'll have San
Antonio against New York. Spurs beat the Thunder one eleven,
one h nine, ending Oklahoma City's sixteen game winning streak.

(01:06:27):
Spurs center Victor Wembenyam returned from a month off after injury.
Wembanyama off the bench twenty two points. New York got
forty from Jalen Brunson and beat Orlando one thirty two
to one twenty. The Colts activated quarterback Philip Rivers. The
LA Bowl in college football went to Washington over Boise
State thirty eight ten. Navy with a fourth quarter TD

(01:06:48):
beat Army seventeen sixteen in Baltimore. The Heisman Trophy was
won by Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza, transfer from cal finishing
second a pretty distant second in the voting, Vanderbilt QB
Diego Pavia finishing third, Notre Dame quarterback running back Jeremiah Love,
and quarterback from Ohio State Julian Sayan was fourth. A

(01:07:09):
linebacker finished fifth for the Heisman Trophy this year from
Texas Tech, Jacob Rodriguez. So we do have Mendoza winning,
and he's the first Heisman winner from the Big Ten
apparently since two thousand and six, when quarterback Troy Smith
from the Buckeyes won it.

Speaker 2 (01:07:26):
No Gordy Lockbomb this year. Okay, that's well.

Speaker 6 (01:07:29):
We did have Travis Hunter last year. Yes, last year's
winner was the Colorado two way star when he edged
Boise States Ashton Gent. But Mendoza won all six voting regions.
He was on ninety five percent of the return ballots.
Quarterbacks have won twenty of the last twenty four Heisman votes.

Speaker 2 (01:07:48):
Back to you, Graty nice, thank you the Sega. Of
course he's Vijay Husky. I'm Arnie spatn your win for
the guys site Jason Martin and Aaron Torres, writer on
Fox Sports Radio. We started with the Browns and the Bears.
You heard the same. You just say it's gonna be
a little bit chilly. I can understand that's a little
cold out of here in Connecticut. I'm sure it's real
cold in the Midwest. Bears seven and a half point favorite.

(01:08:09):
Not And I know we had good things to say
about Shadur, but not a good situation for him in
this In this part, the Bears have played some really
good football over the last month and a half or so.
They look at the team, Well, they've won a lot
of football in the last month and a half or so.

Speaker 3 (01:08:26):
White that's different than saying they played some really good football.
I think they have.

Speaker 2 (01:08:32):
As a matter of fact, they've worked their way up
to the number one seed in the NFC right now.

Speaker 3 (01:08:36):
I'm not. Well, no, they're not because they lost it
the Packers. They lost to the pack lost to the Packers.
The Packers are are above them because they've beaten the Packer.
They've beating them head to head and the Packers have
to tie. They're not above the Packers.

Speaker 2 (01:08:48):
To the Rams, Yeah, they dropped out. I take that
pack you're right, they went from number one to number
seven because they lost to.

Speaker 3 (01:08:55):
The Packers exactly. And when you say, and I'm just
and I'm not on the debate or go back and forth,
but when I hear they played some really good No,
they've escaped some bad teams. Like they've escaped beating some
bad teams as well as they are.

Speaker 2 (01:09:10):
They beating Giants, the Viking, right, I'm looking at it too,
the Steelers, the Eagles on the road before they lost
to the Packers, but that was a twenty eight, twenty
one game, and you know they did come back and
tie that up at twenty one before losing.

Speaker 3 (01:09:25):
Yeah, I just look at it like this. This is
like they've lost. They lost to Detroit, we see what
Detroit is, right, and they lost the Minnesota Detroit Minnesota
both beating them. But they've beating Dallas, the Commanders, the Raiders,
the Saints. They lost to Baltimore, who we don't have
any question. We don't have any idea what Baltimore's They
needed forty seven points to beat a terrible defense in

(01:09:47):
Cincinnati and gave up forty two points to them, then
beat the Giants, beat the Vikings again, scoring nineteen points,
beat the Steelers and then beat Philly. And we have
question marks about Philly, but went up against green Bay.
I know they fought back in that game, but you
never it never, I never since that they were gonna
win that game. I thought, by watching what I saw

(01:10:07):
on the screen that green Bay had a vice grip
on that game. He was gonna win that game. I'm
not gonna listen. They're nine and forty are what they are.
But I trust green Bay, and I said this a
few weeks of going the end zone show. I picked
them to win this division. I think green Bay's heads
above the Bears, and that's why I think the Browns
have a legitimate chance to go still. Just one, Remember
it gets cold in Colorado. Chador's played in cold weather.

(01:10:29):
I don't know if he's played in ten, but he's
played in cold weather.

Speaker 2 (01:10:31):
So you think it's gonna be a low scoring game.
I think the Brown's you don't make it like a
thirteen to ten game.

Speaker 3 (01:10:36):
Seventeen fir first one, first one above seventeen wins guarantee.

Speaker 2 (01:10:41):
And keep it low scoring.

Speaker 3 (01:10:43):
Over I was thirty eight and a half. Vegas doesn't
think anybody's gonna score.

Speaker 2 (01:10:46):
Is a It is a low number, but I think
Chicago is a little bit better than maybe you're giving
him credit for. I don't think the Browns are gonna
be able to muster a lot of offense since the
thirty eight and a half. The Bears are gonna have
trouble scoring too. But I you know the way Caleb
is played, I'm all in hate that number. Seven and
a half. Hate that for six, right, be all in

(01:11:10):
even at seven? You know seven and the hook hate
that number out there, really really bad number. By the way,
you've ever set out the cold in a game like
that and had to suffer through the elements or what?

Speaker 3 (01:11:23):
Uh? The coldest game I've ever played it in my
life was like nineteen degrees never ten. I went, listen,
I'm not that guy. If I got to play, I
gotta play. If I got a coach, I got a coach.

Speaker 2 (01:11:33):
No but to go as a fan hail, no, no,
what for what that to me?

Speaker 1 (01:11:39):
No?

Speaker 3 (01:11:40):
Listen, people at the Kansas City Dolphins playoff game had
to have toes and fingers amputated. I don't need, you know,
I don't. I don't need that on my resume of
life to show I'm I'm such a fan my black
leather cozy sofa with my nine five year old running
around me, and I could make me a nice Daddy

(01:12:00):
egg nog drink. You know what I'm talking about. This
time of the year. I can make a nice Daddy
egg nog drink and some fresh toll House chocolate chips
out the oven. That's way more than a fifteen dollars
cold ass hot dog. By the time you get see
a seat only you have. I can't drink a beer.
Can't drink a beer because your hands are too like, no,
it's fight. Yeah, I'm good.

Speaker 2 (01:12:21):
I want you to know something. I went to one game,
and the reason we went to the game, well, we
didn't have a lot of money when I was growing up,
and I remember we were at McDonald's and it was
just my dad and I and I happened. Our producer
will have to look to supper to Sega, will have
to look up the year. I don't know. I was
probably no more than ten or eleven, I don't know.

(01:12:41):
It was like the early seventies, okay. And the guy
right next to me, who was eating McDonald's two was
there with his kids, and he had all these tickets
to the Rams Vikings playoff game. And I said to him,
just bark it out. I go, hey, we're the two
tickets for me and my dad. It's sort of a

(01:13:01):
gut if he didn't just add them to hand.

Speaker 3 (01:13:03):
You guys, takes two tickets to sit out, to sit
outside in Minnesota, to know this is this is Los Angeles.
I was about to say, you're crazy as hell is
in l A. Oh. It was pooring great, like you
wouldn't believe.

Speaker 2 (01:13:16):
We go, we go to the game. My dad puts
up the umbrella and we didn't realize the guy behind
this because no, no.

Speaker 8 (01:13:23):
No, no, no umbrella, sir. Yeah, we just you can't
do that. You know you think you are We didn't wait,
wait we.

Speaker 3 (01:13:34):
Are in what year was that?

Speaker 2 (01:13:35):
What year was that?

Speaker 3 (01:13:36):
Seventy seven? According to seventy There you go here. I
was born.

Speaker 2 (01:13:40):
I was fourteen years old. It was four and I
think it was a fourteen to seven game. Vikings won
that game, I believe, and it was just pooring. I'll
never forget. It was a just a great memory. Yeah,
because the guy just hands us two tickets to the
game was absolutely.

Speaker 3 (01:13:56):
I don't believe. Listen, I'm not really big on covering,
and I do it because I love doing it. This
my job. But these early season Rams and Chargers games
out at Solfar, when that late August early September heat
waves hits Los Angeles like it does every year, and
it's one O one one oh two ninety nine at kickoff,
and that's an outdoorsy, indoorsy type stadium where there's no windows,

(01:14:20):
there's no doors on the entire building anywhere on the
entire building got to be hard. That is swell turned in.
You then put seventy two thousand people in one room.
Put seventy two thousand people with all the heat that's
generated from all the machines, from all the cooking apparatuses,
all the concession stands. You talk about a sweat box

(01:14:41):
that's very uncomfortable. People will go standing inside like vip
lounges the white and watch. There's like, I'm not sitting
out there. I'm not about to sit out in that.
To me, that's if you're gonna be uncomfortable, then why go.

Speaker 2 (01:14:51):
Yeah, that's my it's a membory. Absolutely will forget. I
think we'll come back, will finish the hour off with
the Segacy. What we've missed so far, that's coming up
next right here on Fox Sports Radio. All right, good
evening everyone, VJ. Husky, Arnie Spaniard for Jason Martin and
Ertrres live at the Fox Sports Radio studios. Let's check

(01:15:12):
in with our buddy the Seger. See what we've missed
so far. What's going on to Sega?

Speaker 6 (01:15:16):
Well, let's start with the Heisman and then we've got
other college football to get too. I mentioned Indiana's quarterback
as the winner. Fernando Mendoza this week was also named
AP College Player of the Year from number one ranked Indiana.
It's still odd to say that out loud. He got
thirty two of the fifty one first place votes for
that award AP this week, and Diego Pavia got nine.

(01:15:38):
The Vanderbilt quarterback finished second in the national voting for
the Heisman. Ohio State had three top ten finishers, not
only the quarterback, Julian Say in fourth place. Sixth place
for the Heisman this year was Ohio State wide receiver
Jeremiah Smith. Ninth place was Buckeye's safety Caleb Downs. Now,
this is seven times in the last eight years they've

(01:15:59):
been at lee two players from the same team in
the Heisman top ten. It's the first time there have
been three in the top ten since Alabama had three
in the top five when Devonte Smith won it, and
they had Mac Jones and Najie Harris finishing third and
fifth as well. I mentioned at the bottom of the
hour we had a linebacker finished fifth for the Heisman
this season. Jacob Rodriguez Texas Tech, is that school's highest

(01:16:23):
finisher since two thousand and eight, when Graham Harrold and
Michael Crabtree were each in the top five.

Speaker 2 (01:16:29):
Wow.

Speaker 6 (01:16:30):
This fifth place Heisman finished tonight is the highest among
strictly defensive players since four years ago when Michigan defensive
ben Aiden Hutchinson was second. Gunner Stockton the Georgia quarterback,
that school's highest finisher since Stetson Bennett, Bulldog quarterback was
a Heisman finalists finished top five three years ago from
Old Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss, that school's highest finisher for

(01:16:53):
the Heisman since quarterback Matt Carral finished seventh four years ago.
Finishing tenth place tonight, Georgia ten quarterback Haines King first
player from Georgia Tech to be in the top ten
for the Heisman since Calvin Johnson, the star wide receiver,
was also tenth place. Almost twenty years they would.

Speaker 2 (01:17:11):
Have championship, didn't they. Georgia tack, didn't they?

Speaker 6 (01:17:14):
Are you talking about like ancient Georgia.

Speaker 2 (01:17:16):
Tech Agia Georgia tack?

Speaker 3 (01:17:18):
Yeah, like nineteen ninety.

Speaker 2 (01:17:20):
I believe it was maybe right, Yeah, time with Colorado
or somebody.

Speaker 3 (01:17:24):
I can't remember.

Speaker 6 (01:17:26):
Virginia was so good back then as well. The highest
Yellow Jack finisher before Calvin Johnson was when quarterback Joe
Hamilton nineteen ninety nine was the program's only finalist. He
finished second. The LA Bowl has come and reportedly gone.
Apparently this is the last LA Bowl we're ever gonna
see at the Rams Stadium. Tonight, Washington won thirty eight

(01:17:48):
ten over a Boise State team they through five interceptions.
Six year contract for the bowl is up. This is
how things have changed in college football. It doesn't seem
like six years that long ago. It's light years ago
in college football. When they signed this deal, the bowl
was meant to be a feeder for the Pac twelve,
which essentially doesn't exist. Boise States going into the Pac

(01:18:10):
twelve next year. Boise State just won the Mountain West
title game at home against UNLV, but got rocked for
the last three quarters of this one by a Washington
team that started five and one this season, then went
three and three the rest of the regular season, but
got four touchdown passes from Demond Williams. Tonight, you talked
about this earlier in the show. The Army Navy game
was in Baltimore. Navy was down sixteen to seven late

(01:18:33):
third quarter, but beat rival Army seventeen to sixteen on
a touchdown pass on fourth and goal with about six
and a half minutes to go. The Navy quarterback Blake
Horbath thirty four carries for his one hundred and seven yards.

Speaker 2 (01:18:45):
They did a good job on him, though I thought I.

Speaker 6 (01:18:47):
Think so as well, two touchdowns, two turnovers as well.
Army had a great opening drive, but even including that,
eight drives eleven first downs for the Army offense, the
team is six and six. It has not beaten a
ranked Navy team since nineteen fifty five still, but it
is going to the Fenway Bowl against Yukon. Aaron Torres's

(01:19:08):
favorite team, Navy will be January twod in the Liberty
Bowl against Cincinnati. Navy by the way, a team that
lost at Notre Dame forty nine to ten. This year,
the college football Playoffs starts next Friday, Alabama at Oklahoma
and then three games next Saturday. Now the two playoff
games farmed out to TNT next Saturday to Lane at

(01:19:29):
Ole Miss James Madison at Oregon. Those will be opposite
two NFL games on Fox TV. When they had the
two TNT games last year in the first round, one
of them got under nine million viewers. One of them
got six point six million. The other two games that
weekend got about fourteen million. So they know what they're

(01:19:50):
doing by farming them out. They're going up against NFL.

Speaker 2 (01:19:53):
Oh, there you go. Its thank you to SEGA. Two
hours or in the books, you know what that means.
It means the Power Hours coming up next. You want
to be part of the show, Go at Big Vanilla Funny.
I'm a stinking genius. One Power Hour here at Fox
Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (01:20:10):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 2 (01:20:14):
Oh that is us. Good evening, everybody, VJ Husky, Arnie
Spad You're in for Jason Martin and Aaron Torres right
here on Fox Sports Radio. It is the Power Hour
of the show. You want to be part of the show.
Real simple, tweet us at Big Vanilla Funny. I'm at

(01:20:36):
stinking Genius one. I can't get myself to still call
it X or whatever. I'm still in the.

Speaker 3 (01:20:43):
Tweet me either Twitter and I don't say, because here's
my question. This is just a simple question to answer
how people say it. You call it twitter. Now you
want to call it X. But if you type something
it hit send our post? Did you just X or
do you still say I tweeted?

Speaker 2 (01:21:03):
Right?

Speaker 3 (01:21:04):
Because if you still tweeted, it is still Twitter.

Speaker 2 (01:21:07):
Right, I agree with you.

Speaker 3 (01:21:09):
No one goes, yeah, I just I just xed like
the awesomeness like X. Ever, No, it's like, hey man,
why'd you tweet? Nobody goes, hey Mary, why'd you ian?
Why'd you x that? No say I posted. I think
that's what you say that, But did you say I
posted on X, which is just inferior to tweet. There
you go. I'm with you. Tweet tweet all the way.

Speaker 2 (01:21:30):
Tweet must be school. I still tweet, and I'm on
a O L, So I don't know what. I don't
know what else, Like, are you really still on ao L? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (01:21:38):
That's not being old.

Speaker 2 (01:21:39):
That's cheap, But what what difference of it? What are
you being cheap though? What difference does it make if
it's a O L Gmail, whatever, what difference does it make.
I'm still getting my AOL man.

Speaker 7 (01:21:50):
That AOL take, expecting us all to be like, yeah,
a good point, Arnie, right.

Speaker 3 (01:21:54):
Exactly, yes, right, I ar right, I ar.

Speaker 2 (01:21:59):
Do Uh No, I don't thank you right about jee.

Speaker 3 (01:22:04):
Say you just seem like the kind of guy that
would try to really defend dude, what's the difference? No
one lives here. There is my wife and I already
know if she's on the phone not to try to
get on the internet.

Speaker 2 (01:22:17):
We got a lot of NFL to get to. I
do want to tell you a quick story. VJ. You're
gonna you're gonna love this. I don't know the exact year,
but twenty something years ago and maybe coming up on
twenty years I was working in Chicago and myself and
another host got two tickets uh to the Notre Dame

(01:22:37):
Navy game in South Bend. Okay, So we drive over
to to South Bend and Navy pulls off the upset.
I mean, they must have been like a four touchdown underdog.

Speaker 3 (01:22:51):
That it was.

Speaker 2 (01:22:53):
It was just like the most improbable upset of all time.
The weather suck and we were sitting with the big
hoity tody alumni. And I'm gonna tell you why in
a second, the other host was completely drunk. I'm not
gonna say I was, because I'll never admit it to
this day. When Notre Dame lost, we just badgered the

(01:23:19):
hell out of the alumni. We really didn't think much
about it because we didn't know we were sitting with
the hoity toity, but we laid down some funny verbiage
after they lost, and they didn't like it. They had
won a billion times in a row, so they didn't

(01:23:39):
like losing to Navy. Now here's the kicker. The person
that gave us the tickets was the owner of the network.
His father. His father was captain of Notre Dame football.
After his playing days, he became the head coach of
Notre Dame football. His name was Terry Brennan. This goes

(01:24:02):
way back. We after the game, because we were such jackasses,
they took away the tickets from Coach Brennan and we
had to explain why the tickets got taken away from
the coach and former captain of Notre Dame football. They

(01:24:25):
were so upset. I mean, they were gonna fire us
on the spot. I was so nervous. The guy almost
cried when he found out that his tickets got taken away.
I mean, think about that. You're the you're the you're
the captain, the former captain and the former coach of
Notre Dame football. I mean, you're idolized. And we just

(01:24:49):
and we just were ripping people. And they found out
who gave us the tickets and they said, okay, we're
gonna make it an exception here because it was coach Brennan.
But we were big trouble. It would almost cost us
her jobs. I mean they they hated us for us
for such a long time. But what an upset that was, man.

Speaker 3 (01:25:09):
It was.

Speaker 2 (01:25:09):
It was good times back then, and it's up fitting
the Adam Man. It was good ties.

Speaker 3 (01:25:13):
Unbelievable. I bet it wasn't that time, man. And that's
that's what's so great about sports and what we do
is you have these memories that are attached to sports,
you know what I'm saying, like and they and they
to go with you for life. Like when my first
year covering the Chargers last year. I was so nervous
in the I'm never nervous in the press room at

(01:25:34):
the Lakers, Clippers, Kings, Dodgers, I'm never nervous. But I
was nervous in the Charger game. Why because the pr
lady said five minutes coach Jim Harball would be out.
And my heart went into my throat. Why I played.
My very first little league football team was called the
Leaf Franconia Wolverines in Northern Virginia. At that time, Jim

(01:25:57):
Harball was at the University of Michigan had one Big
Ten Player of the year. My first football team is
the reason that I became a Michigan fan. Because I
asked my older brother, Hey, are there any college teams
with a Wolverine? He goes, yes, this school called Michigan.
I go, Okay, that's my favorite team nineteen eighty five.
That's how I became a Michigan Wolverine fan, and that's
why I'm a die hard, like lifelong fan I am

(01:26:19):
to this day. Fast forward to my first NFL game.
My stepdad, Glenn Thomas, took me to Washington Redskins at
old RFK that stayed and used to sway and bounce
up and down when the fans got Rabbit in there
they're playing the Chicago Bears. Guess who's the quarterback of
the Chicago Bears that day, mister Jim Harball. And then
my first time answering and approaching and a professional setting

(01:26:41):
an NFL head coach and asking him a question and
him giving a great, nice, lengthy answer, Jim Harball. So
that's my attachment to the guy. Now. I love the charge.
I love Harbor to death.

Speaker 2 (01:26:53):
That's t how you put a picture of you and
Ben Mallard at the game, right, Yeah, Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:26:56):
That's my guy, man, Ben and I sitting next to it.
We said it next to each other the Charger game
and you know, just talk and watch football and.

Speaker 2 (01:27:02):
Good for you, talk about for you the game.

Speaker 3 (01:27:03):
Yeah yeah, no, man, I definitely and am blessed and
what I've what we're what we're able to do.

Speaker 2 (01:27:09):
Man.

Speaker 3 (01:27:09):
Do you feel like you're working right now, Arnie?

Speaker 2 (01:27:11):
No, of course not.

Speaker 3 (01:27:13):
Do you feel like you're working? Did you go you
gotta go fill in on Fox Sports Radio and have
hundreds of thousand people listen to me talk sports? Oh boo? No, man,
what we do.

Speaker 2 (01:27:25):
Undred two thousands, quarter of a billion per month. What's
wrong with you?

Speaker 3 (01:27:28):
Listen, I'm trying to be humble because I got people
coming at me on Twitter right now. So I'm trying
to I'm trying not to be as are as I
want to. I'm trying to show some humble side.

Speaker 2 (01:27:36):
And by the way, later on, I'm not today next time,
were filling sure because we were feeling a lot. I
got I'll tell you my story of what I played
in the three on three uh basketball tournament.

Speaker 3 (01:27:49):
And I got a little jumpy. I saw your video.
I got a little jumpy.

Speaker 2 (01:27:53):
I can't but this was a long time ago and
the guy and the other team was Cal Ripken Jr.

Speaker 3 (01:27:59):
So shut up.

Speaker 2 (01:28:00):
Oh yeah it was. This was a good one.

Speaker 3 (01:28:03):
This was we'll get to that.

Speaker 4 (01:28:04):
Well.

Speaker 3 (01:28:04):
Yeah, I just go because I grew up in the
d n V. So I grew up watching him play
and going up to old Memorial Park before they built
Candam Yards watching him play for some really bad Mike
Oriole teams man. But he was out there shortstop every day.
My goal was to hurt him.

Speaker 2 (01:28:18):
I'll tell you. I'll tell you about it later on.
Yeah I was. I was a terrible person. That's that
noise violence Ravens bagels before we Joe Burrow and you've
heard the matter of fact, we have a cut. I'll
have ve and pull it up when it's ready. He'll
tell me. Joe Burrow recently. Uh, here's what he had

(01:28:39):
to say. This is Joe Burrow after his I believe
his last game well, and he was obviously not very
happy with the way.

Speaker 3 (01:28:47):
Is just crazy how this is coming about. I was
just in the engineer room talking to I. We just
talked about this and I had no idea that's where
he was going. We got this sound.

Speaker 2 (01:28:55):
Yeah, here it is, go ahead, here's Joe Burrow.

Speaker 1 (01:28:57):
I want to keep doing this. I have to have
I'm doing it. You know, I've been through a lot,
and if it's not fun, then what am I doing
it for?

Speaker 2 (01:29:05):
You've seen like through something on your mind.

Speaker 1 (01:29:09):
There's a lot of things going on right now.

Speaker 7 (01:29:11):
A lot of things going on right now, all related personally,
all the booth.

Speaker 2 (01:29:16):
Look, I don't know what's what's he going through on
the field, off the field. Everybody's dealing with problems here.
I guess the first thing I want to ask you, VJ,
is it time to trade Joe Burrow with you said
the grass isn't always greener. Maybe sometimes you do need,
you know, to separate and start fresh and start over.

(01:29:37):
There'd be a lot of teams lined up to get
a Joe Burrow. Of course, what do you do if
you're Cincinnati?

Speaker 3 (01:29:43):
What do you do?

Speaker 2 (01:29:44):
If you're Joe Burrow? Do you ask for a trade?
Do you demand the trade? If you're Cincinnati, do you
go to him and say, look, we can tell you're
not happy, let us trade. You will work something out
with another team so we can get full maximum value
you Where do you start with Joe Burrow?

Speaker 3 (01:30:02):
This is why I be hashtagging VJ ahead of the curve.
This is why I hashtagged that I made this proclamation
about two months ago that Joe Burrow was gonna ask
out in the next ten to twelve months. I told
Steve Hartman right sitting right next to me, live one Rady.
I just mentioned it to Ian, our great producer here.
And the reason why is because see that sound. By

(01:30:23):
first of all was go back to this sound, boy,
I don't like it. That sounds like a me guy.
If I'm going to key I I I listen to
him talk just listen to him talk.

Speaker 2 (01:30:35):
I don't care.

Speaker 3 (01:30:37):
I don't care. I don't care. You're a franchise quarterback. Now.
We knock other players, especially guys like Shadoor, another young rookie,
about how they speak at the podium and what they say.
But we're gonna let Joe Burrow off to hook some
way somehow. No, if you go back and watch season
two of Quarterback, it's right there. He talks about him

(01:31:00):
himself a lot. He comes off as a me guy.
And I thought Tom Brady sent some subliminal shots his
way about a month ago or a month and a
half ago where that soundbites out where he's like, you know,
quarterback isn't a nine to five. You can't just show up.
And then oh, well I threw for my five thousand
yards I did, right, Tom. I really felt like, Yo,

(01:31:23):
he's talking to somebody. He's not just saying is he's
talking to some supremely talented QB in the NFL right now,
and subliminity saying, hey, man, be quiet, because what are
you doing? Like what are you in the defensive meetings?
Are you? And then Tom Brady he goes down the
list of the things he did where he would say, Okay,

(01:31:44):
the walkthrough is not till ten. I'm not waiting till ten.
I'll call all fifty two guys. I'll see you guys
at eight in the morning. We'll go through a walk
through before the coaches get there. That's a leader. I
question whether Joe Burrows a leader? Is he a great
eight quarterback? I think he's really, really, really good man.
I don't know how great you are. You can't stay

(01:32:05):
on the field, Like, let's just be honest about it.
You can't stay on the field that super Bowl run.
That's years of the super Bowl, that's five years already,
that's five years ago.

Speaker 2 (01:32:14):
But he won't That's okay.

Speaker 3 (01:32:17):
Well, well, I mean, hey, you went now and now
since then, since then, what have they've done?

Speaker 2 (01:32:23):
Well, let me let me say this. The rumors start
because A he's not obviously happy. Two here with Minnesota,
so you can get reunited with Jefferson. Three. Now you
start hearing the rumors, and I'll ask you this, would
you rather have Jalen Hurts or Joe Burrow and get
a trade be made for those two guys.

Speaker 3 (01:32:46):
I I despise questions like, not not from you, just
in general in the brain because what's not fair is
we're asking the question when a guy's down. Would you
just said this going into the Super Bowl last year? No,
because one guy asses at home and the other guy's
about to play for Lombardi. To answer your question on talent,

(01:33:09):
you know, yeah, you take Joe Burrow, but that don't
mean you're gonna win anything. Because Joe Burrow got to
a Super Bowl? What did he do? He lost?

Speaker 2 (01:33:17):
Jalen Hurts has been to two of them. You don't
need to take Joe Burrow. You can stay with Jalen Hurt, right,
But that's the point I make it.

Speaker 3 (01:33:22):
Jalen Hurts has been to two. He's out played what
people wanted to call the goat just a year and
a half ago, everybody wanted to call the goat. Jalen
Hurts out played him head to head and whooped his
ass the second time.

Speaker 2 (01:33:33):
But yeah, I think Minnesota fans fifty to fifty percent
of them would rather have Joe Burrow over Jalen Hurts
right now.

Speaker 3 (01:33:38):
Philly, Yeah, Philly, I got your Philly guys. You said Minnesota.
I'm sorry, Yeah, Well you know how you know how
Phinnicky fans are. Man, what is this guy, this or
any guy get him off. He said, Minnesota, he doesn't
play there. We know we make mistakes, we talk a
lot stuff.

Speaker 2 (01:33:52):
Flis out of our minds, but fifty percent of Philly
fans would probably want to get rid of him.

Speaker 3 (01:33:57):
And go with Joe Burrow. I listen, I'll pute you
like this, JJ's my guy. If Minnesota could get him
to go with Justin Jefferson and TJ. Hockinson and Durashawan
and left tackle Flora, Yeah, Flores is blitz happy, number
one blitz win percent over the last two and a
half seasons defense, then yeah, that's I mean, come on,

(01:34:17):
but I have a hard time with people trying to
put him up against a guy like Jalen Hurts, who's
been to more Super Bowls and actually won one. Joe
Burrow don't got no ring and he didn't play great
in the Super Bowl.

Speaker 2 (01:34:27):
Well, they're playing Baltimore. The games in Cincinnati, Baltimore two
and that point favorite. And you want to talk about
one of the most more disappointing teams in the NFL,
that's Baltimore. Matter of fact, I remember a last time
we were on during Thanksgiving the week and we argued
about Lamar Jackson. Now things are completely different. A lot
of a lot of people questioning Lamar Jackson.

Speaker 3 (01:34:50):
Give no contact though in full context. What did I
say I would do with Lamar if I was Baltimore
this year? What did I say, Arnie? I would send
him He's not right? He was hurt and you no,
he's he's not. Let me ask a question. When you
put on the film and watch him play, does he
look right to you? We were on he doesn't look
we were on air. Were we on air when the
game was going on that night? I believe so's given

(01:35:13):
up yet? Right, So you and I were on air
when that game was going on and we sat there.
He had to scramble, I believe, on like third and
twelve to the left side of the field. That we're like, okay,
but I said, look look at that. Oh see Olamar, Olamar.
He wasn't scrabbling at all time? Right, We never see
it run because that hand because them legs ain't he's injured, man.
But that's but he's like, that's the new Labar.

Speaker 2 (01:35:35):
I don't think you can see the old Lamar ever
again where he's gonna run to that to that type
of effect, there.

Speaker 3 (01:35:41):
Oh No, I don't think he's run like that. I
don't think I don't know if I agree with that.
I think that he's banged up this year. Yeah, and
because he's so mobile, he's so athletic. The minute we
don't see it, the first thing that we think is,
oh my god, this you know this could be the end. No,
he's he's he's got lower.

Speaker 2 (01:35:59):
If you're the Ravens, do you draft the quarterback? The
answer jet no, ohtot. You gotta draft the quarterback.

Speaker 3 (01:36:06):
Out of this class. Well, out of this class.

Speaker 2 (01:36:09):
I gotta bring myself into someone to challenge Lamar.

Speaker 3 (01:36:13):
Out of this class.

Speaker 2 (01:36:14):
You're not answering the question, Well, this class depends if
I get an early pick. But I guess they did
not get in an early pick, so out of this class.

Speaker 3 (01:36:22):
No, The answer is no. The answers no. Their best
bet is maybe try to find a veteran hell Carl
Arizona and ask if Jacoby Brissette, who plays efficiently, can
be the backup there. He's no one's coming in to
take a guy. A two time MVP should have won
it last year. More passing yards, more touchdowns, less interceptions,
more rushing yards than Josh Allen. And for some way, somehow,

(01:36:43):
Josh Allen got the MVP when he outstatted him in
all the major categories that wedge quarterbacks by. So he
could have been a three time MVP, two time MVP,
and we're just gonna give his job away to somebody else. Absolutely,
if that's the case, let's replace Josh Allen. Well, no,
I don't think.

Speaker 2 (01:37:00):
I don't think Josh Allen's gonna finish his career in Buffalo.

Speaker 3 (01:37:02):
Oh okay, but hold on, I'm talking about just right now.
Let's let's let's let's replace Josh Allen. How many years
he been in League ten to eleven? How many time? Keep here?
I think it's crazy to win a super Bowl, like
he's gonna get to one and he can't get there.
I think it's Josh Allen looks good, right, Yeah, I
think it's crazy.

Speaker 2 (01:37:17):
Yeah, that that Buffalo fans even think about entertaining that.
I think it's such. But just ravens Bagan was just
to finish up that actually give me bothmore to cover
Raven's need to win this game.

Speaker 3 (01:37:29):
I think Baltimore to cover is two and a half.

Speaker 2 (01:37:30):
Yeah, I'm not so sure. I want to see one
more game to see if Joe Burrow can put up
enough points on Obviously they're a different team with him
out there. I think I'm gonna take Cincinnati plus the points.
I think Baltimore goes down.

Speaker 3 (01:37:44):
Their year is over under fifty one and a half.

Speaker 2 (01:37:47):
Wow, is that crazy?

Speaker 3 (01:37:49):
Where you going?

Speaker 2 (01:37:50):
I gotta go under fifty one and over a.

Speaker 3 (01:37:53):
Shootout even in some cold weather. Both teams chip on
his shoulders, back against the wall. Burrow come off these comments,
lamar questions, hardball questions. I think this game. I think
this game could be the early game, even with some
of these other matchups we have, but I think this
game right here, this this, this can be thirty one,
thirty four, thirty one, twenty eight. I haven't taken yet.

(01:38:15):
Give me the over on the fifty one and a half.

Speaker 2 (01:38:17):
Only significance for playoffs would be for the Ravens though
in this one, and.

Speaker 3 (01:38:21):
The Bengals officially eliminated.

Speaker 2 (01:38:23):
I think so. But even if you're not, I got you,
I got you so far down, no way they make
the climb up.

Speaker 3 (01:38:30):
Hey, Hey, they still know there's not an eating now.
Here's the thing. They're They're like the last team they're
the first team without an E, right, So like it's
the number truck. Yeah, you're right, right, it's the Titans, Raiders, Browns,
and them bum ass Yets they sit, they're right, yeah,
sixteen thirteen, they'll all have an E next to their

(01:38:52):
names that are out of the playoffs. The Bengals mathematically
are still a looted So until they're eliminated, we can't
say they're eliminated.

Speaker 2 (01:38:59):
Right, which probably comes this weekend, because even if they win,
chances are they get elimitated because because the Dolphins probably win,
or at least they hopefully wouldn't.

Speaker 3 (01:39:08):
Know, we'll get well, we'll get to that later on.

Speaker 2 (01:39:12):
In fact, more of Week fifteen. That's coming up next
right here on Fox Sports Radio. All right, good evening, everyone, VJ. Husky,
Arnie Spaniar in for Jason Martin and Aartores right here
on Fox Sports Radio and the Fox Sports Radio Studios.
Continuing going over Week fifteen of the NFL. Talk about

(01:39:35):
a monster game You're Chargers that you cover on the
road in Kansas City. Oh, by the way, real quick,
Baltimore now with three point favorite over Cincinnati. That changed
at the break. Chargers Chiefs Chiefs are a six point favorite.
Don't think that's gonna go to six and a half
for seven. Chargers are banged up. We know what the
Chiefs are. They're very banged up. They're six and seven.

(01:39:57):
They're pretty much out of it all. But Matt medically eliminated.
Talk about a disupporting team, that's the Kansas City Chiefs,
no doubt about that. How do you see this game
and your Chargers? Can they pull the upset off on
the road on this one? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (01:40:12):
I called it at five and a half. Is when
I put my bread down on. I took the Chargers
at a plus two fifteen on the money line. Just
give me the Charges to win the game. So I
definitely think they covered this five and a half. I
found it out six now went up to six days
sticking up. Well, I put my money down at five
and a half, so you can't change it for me,
just like my two and a half on the Ravens.
Try to be slicking pushing up to three. Nope, not

(01:40:32):
doing that. You're gonna pay me on my two and
a half. But yes, I it's hard for me to
just imagine the NFL at the current state just being
different without the Chiefs being in the playoffs, because we've
seen it for the last seven years. Right, They're in
the AFC Championship Game every single year like without fail,
and that's not gonna happen this year. So once they

(01:40:55):
get the little ed next to their name, then I'll
call them out. But I've seen is it time to.

Speaker 2 (01:40:59):
Read tool when the E does happen? Is it time
to retool? Say goodbye to Travis Kelcey, Andy Reid? Heyes,
to start thinking about retirement? Does it mat or what?

Speaker 3 (01:41:09):
Yeah? I tell you this. I just want to throw
a monkey rich out there. Chiefs fans are gonna hate this,
And I like messing with Chiefs fans because they mishear
things and then go to Twitter and tweet and tweet
at me and not have the correct information. We talk
about Joe Burrow, maybe you know, asking out or asking
what if Pat Mahomes has a certain ego lift in things. Hell,

(01:41:29):
I don't have to stay here and rebuild if Andy's
gone and we got to rebuild this thing. Right, the
way Denver looks, we don't know what the Raiders are
gonna do in the future. And with the way the
Chargers look now, let's look through the AFC, right, what
can s your door do with this this Cleveland squad
next year? What are the Ravens gonna look like? You
still have the bills that are forming o Kin, the

(01:41:50):
Dolphins win their last three for or get to ten
and seven and be competitive, and like the AFC is stacked.
Look what's happening in the South. Jacksonville looks a little
legit Now the text have the number one defense in
the league like this can maybe Pat looks around to
go hold up, man, I don't want.

Speaker 2 (01:42:06):
To do I mean, do you think it's not bad
for Kansas City right now? I mean you make him
say they.

Speaker 3 (01:42:11):
Finish on the five hundred they finished. No, I'm not
making them sound like anything. When I'm making them sound
like there's a team right now at six and seven.
They finish eight and nine under five hundred, and for
some out of the blue, Andy Reid announce his retirement.
Travis Kelce announces, you know, retirement. You're asking Pat Mahomes
to basically go back to the bottom of the deck,

(01:42:34):
go back to the bottom of the deck and now
have to rebuild. Rice can't stay healthy. Xavier Worthy, Xavier Worthy,
Xavier Worthy is a one trick pony. He can just
run fast. He's not a great route runner, doesn't have
great hands, can't run the football Pacenko, can't stay healthy,
can't keep using Kareem Hunt the way. They have got
to make some decisions on Chris Jones in that big contract,

(01:42:56):
Trent McDuffie on the corner. Like, there's a lot of questions.
They're like forty seven million over the gap going into
this offseason, right right, So once again, if you're Pat
Mahomes and I'm just trying, I'm not gonna lie. I'm
just trying to start trouble right now. I'm just trying
to start something.

Speaker 2 (01:43:10):
What do you think about what he's done this year?
I mean, I mean they're six and seven, so you know,
but but his numbers, you know, ten interceptions not all
his fault, no doubt.

Speaker 3 (01:43:21):
I'm not doing I put the tape on there. I
put to you like this, he's not.

Speaker 2 (01:43:25):
Playing obviously Mahomes type football they did.

Speaker 3 (01:43:27):
Have if they didn't and no, no, I'm going opposite. I'm
about to go oppositely there. You better right if they
didn't have him, they'd have two wins if they didn't
have him, we want to do it. If we want
to do all these variables on these other quarterbacks, Arnie,
then we got to do it on everybody.

Speaker 2 (01:43:42):
How about it just caught up with them from last
year where they went ten to zero in one score games,
and this year it's reversed on them.

Speaker 3 (01:43:49):
Right, It is a very valid factor that you bought up.
But I think it's a little more than that. It's
not just last year, it's seven years. Think about it.
It's it's a lot of football to play when you
know you're getting to the conference championship game, as opposed
to a team who season is over by a week eleven,
week twelve, and some of their star players. Oh yeah,

(01:44:10):
that hamstring hurts a little more when you're four and eleven.
That ankle you have, they tried to give it a go.
He's gonna be a healthy scratch today. Well, yeah, you're
three and twelve. Why are you putting in your thirty
two million dollar receiver on the field today in the
cold weather, on the roads with slush and snowing of court.
So but that's not the Chiefs though. Everyone wants to play.

(01:44:34):
Everyone's healthy, everyone's okay, not nless. It's a real entry
because we know we gonna go. We going to the
AFC Championship game. It's seven years, man, it's not one
year last year. One score games. That's a factor, but
the fact that they played so much football, Armie, I
think I think that pat portion of it has.

Speaker 2 (01:44:49):
Caught up to him right now. Forty one and a half.
That's kind of a old number for a Kansas City game.

Speaker 3 (01:44:53):
That I mean that you're taking me under.

Speaker 2 (01:44:55):
Yeah, I don't know if I could go up there
forty man, S don't if I could do that. I
do like the six points though, and your Chargers, I
do think they keep it closing. Maybe do pull off
the upset in this game?

Speaker 3 (01:45:07):
Come on, come on, man, go out there, baby. Put
it on that plus two to fifteen on the money line, Baby,
let's go.

Speaker 2 (01:45:11):
Yeah, like that two fifteen. That's some good odds out there.
We still got a whole bunch of games to go
through before we do anything else. The final check one
game is still going on in college basketball in the
top twenty five, UCLA and Gonzaga. Let's see what's going
on checking with the Saga. What's going on to Sega?

Speaker 6 (01:45:28):
And that game is in Seattle five minutes to go.
A Thrankenzaga now leads seventy two to sixty four over UCLA.
Number one Arizona was playing in Birmingham tonight and beat
twelve beat twelve ranked Alabama even though the Wildcats that
was supposed to be a Wildcat in the background there.
Even though they trailed by two at the half, they

(01:45:49):
won ninety six to seventy five. Arizona apparently the first
team in the history of the college basketball Top twenty
five to beat five ranked teams in its first nine
games of the season.

Speaker 2 (01:46:02):
We'll beat everybody. We're never going to lose again.

Speaker 6 (01:46:04):
It's lot Auburn as well got close wings against UCLA.
Ukon beat Florida as well. By the way, Number two
Michigan is still undefeated. It was down five at Maryland
tonight but beat that.

Speaker 2 (01:46:15):
Those are games.

Speaker 6 (01:46:16):
One oh one eighty three.

Speaker 3 (01:46:18):
Was the final.

Speaker 6 (01:46:19):
Tennessee State beat UNLV in Nevada. It was Mississippi State
over Utah. Kansas won in overtime at nc State. Ninth
rank Michigan State won seventy six seventy two at Penn State,
and number twenty three Nebraska won on a last second
three at number thirteen.

Speaker 2 (01:46:34):
Illinois eighty three eighty.

Speaker 6 (01:46:36):
In women's college hoops dominance from number one Connecticut seventy
nine to fifty one at sixteenth ranked usc SC, the
women of Troy had sixteen field goals made and twenty turnovers.
Ninth ranked Oklahoma won at Oklahoma State easily. Number twenty
Washington had to come back to beat Green Bay. NHL
wins for Florida and Winnipeg shootout victories for the Islanders

(01:46:59):
and Carolina. Minnesota defeated Ottawa three to two. New Jersey
beat Anaheim four to one today and in the NBA
Cup Semifinals two games in Las Vegas tonight, San Antonio
edged one seed Oklahoma City one eleven to one oh nine,
an OKC team that had been twenty four and one
this NBA season. The sixteen game winning streak is over.

(01:47:20):
Shake iljis Alexander twenty nine points in a loss, but
from three point range. He was one for seven off
the bench for the Spurs. Center Victor wembin Yama twenty
two points in twenty one minutes. He returned after missing
a month from the straying calf. The NBA's tournament final
is also in Las Vegas Tuesday Spurs against New York.
The Knick shot sixty one percent from the floor and

(01:47:42):
won their semi against Orlando one thirty two to one,
twenty forty points for Jalen Brunson Carl Anthony Towns with
twenty nine the Calves Evan Mobley is due to miss
two to four weeks with a strain calf. Philadelphia guard
Tyrese Maxi is doubtful for Sunday due to illness. Minnesota's
Anthony Edwards his question with the sore foot. Hawks guard
Trey Young is due to return to practice next week.

(01:48:03):
He's been out since late October with a sprained MCL.
The Saint Louis Cardinals are signing right handed pitcher Dustin May,
formerly of the Dodgers in Red Sox. The Mets are
signing infielder Jorge Polanco. The Tigers agreed to a deal
with veteran closer Kenlee Jansen. The Colts activated quarterback Philip Rivers.
He was just signed this past week out of retirement.

(01:48:24):
Colts have lost four or five by the way. Indy's
normal starter, Daniel Jones, is expected to miss sixty eight
months after this week's Achilles surgery so he could be
back for training camp. The Bears are reportedly optimistic the
wide receiver Roma Dunese will return to place Sunday after
a foot injury. The forty nine Ers placed wide receiver
Brandon Aiyuk on the reserve list. He's out for the year.

(01:48:45):
The Heisman Trophy was won by Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza.
Quarterbacks have won twenty of the past twenty four Heisman votes.
A distant second was QB from Vanderbilt Diego Pavia. The
other college football news, we had a bowl game, the
LA Bowl, apparently the final LA Bowl. Tonight, Washington beat
Boise State thirty eight to ten in Baltimore. Today, Navy

(01:49:08):
defeated rival Army, coming from sixteen to seven down late
third quarter to beat Army seventeen sixteen on a touchdown
pass on a fourth and goal with about six and
a half minutes left. The college football playoff starts next Friday,
and the University of Michigan reportedly commissioned an investigation into
its own athletic department after numerous scandals in recent years.

(01:49:29):
Update hoops Gonzaga seventy four to sixty six over UCLA
under four minutes left.

Speaker 2 (01:49:35):
Back to you, all right, Steve, see you tomorrow, and
I appreciate that. VJ. Husky, Arnie Span, you're in for
Jason Martin and Aaron Torres live at the Fox Sports
Radio Studios Monster Game tomorrow. Bill's Patriots. Yeah, no, we're
rooting for right since we're Dolphin fans, we're pulling for
the Patriots. That way, the Patriots have a meaningless game at.

Speaker 3 (01:49:56):
The end of the year, which happens to be against
the Doabins.

Speaker 2 (01:49:58):
That aside, though, big game obviously for the Bills too
if they want to go and win the AFC East.
I got to give credit to the Patriots. Didn't think
they were gonna put up a year like this. Didn't
think Drake May was the quarterback that he's showing right now.
Still don't know what to expect for them in the
playoffs when you have a quarterback that has no playoff experience.
That all being said, disrespect with the Bills being a

(01:50:20):
point that favorite in this one, and I still like
the Bills. What do you think about this? KVJ.

Speaker 3 (01:50:25):
I'm going to England, man, the Bills are done. I
kep telling people this this is nothing new man, and
even Ian he and I in a different radio football life.
He and I we become very closer. Tough football talk
of the Paints. I've been saying this, Arnie, you and
I filled in on a show the weekend after they

(01:50:46):
lost the divisional game at Kansas City, where their offensive coordinated,
especially seace coordinator, decided it was okay to kick the
ball off to Tyreek Hill, and then in overtime the
defensive coordinator thought it was a smart idea to guard
Travis Kelsey one on one in the red zone with
a linebacker. That game right there, what do you throw
like four? T's not passing the Gabe Davis. That game
got gave Davis paid that game right there was everything

(01:51:11):
I need to see of Okay, they're done, like they're
they're gonna win eleven twelve thirteen game, but super Bowl
get in there, nah. And now they've let the Patriots
after some down years, Big Bill Double b gone, the
goat Thomas gone, and you let Mike Vrabel come in
here with with with Drake May and have already come

(01:51:34):
to Orchard Park and beat your ass. Now you gotta
go there. They're not winning, They're not winning this game.
I would still pick they're winning this game.

Speaker 2 (01:51:41):
If I had to pick one team from the AFC,
I'd picked the Buffalo Bills.

Speaker 3 (01:51:44):
Right now, you'd picked the Bills.

Speaker 2 (01:51:47):
Yeah, I would pick the Buffalo Bills. I'd picked the
Bills over Denver one because I again, if we gook
at the quarterbacks, I can't say that Boe Knicks is
gonna go ahead and take that. I can't say that
Drake may who's never played in the playoffs right that
you're gonna be Trevor Lawrence in Jacksonville, No no, and
no Chargers with a lot of injuries. I going with
the Bills right now is the favorite? Is my pick?

Speaker 3 (01:52:09):
Have you in the af have you watched the Bills?

Speaker 2 (01:52:12):
I watched. I watch a lot of it. My wife
is a Bills fan. We get all the games out
here in these beat in mine.

Speaker 3 (01:52:19):
Of these games three quarters and they just have the
guy that could come winning in the fourth or the
second half. That's not sustainable. That's not sustainable in the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (01:52:29):
You we saw with Kansas City last year. But that's
besides the point. I just don't think you're a Josh
Allen fan.

Speaker 3 (01:52:35):
I don't like Josh Allen already told you. Guys know
that Josh Apple turnover Allen. But I have every reason
to keep telling people. Let me ask you, is why
am I still so right on this though I've been
saying for four or five years on national and worldwide radio,
he's not going to a super Bowl and he hasn't been.

Speaker 2 (01:52:51):
Out of Kansas in the way that I don't care.
Were you no?

Speaker 3 (01:52:56):
No Vegas had them the favorite last year and three
years ago, they've been favorite to win. This isn't old
because they can't get past Kansas City. They've been favorite
to beat Kansas City and get to the super Bowl
by Vegas preseason Hodds. So I'm not hearing that, and
we're still saying it. And listen, as far as this
weekend game goes, give me New England at home. I

(01:53:16):
love the one and a half. Give me under the
forty nine and a half, though I don't I don't
think there's gonna be a ton of scoring. I think
both these defenses punch each other in the mouth a
little bit. I think Josh Allen gets knocked around a
little bit by this defense. Mike Rabel is a great
football coach man.

Speaker 2 (01:53:29):
Unbelievable.

Speaker 3 (01:53:30):
We're gonna have to He's gonna have them, he's gonna
have them ready to play.

Speaker 2 (01:53:34):
Washington Giants. And he any interested in that one? I mean,
obviously there's nothing at stake.

Speaker 3 (01:53:40):
Why you name that game? Where was next on the
schedule with Green Bay difverd this this is the game
you okay?

Speaker 2 (01:53:49):
And also because we only have like one minute least.

Speaker 3 (01:53:53):
I'll go with the I'll go with the DNV home
team on the road. Marcus Meriota is still playing for
his last paychecks, you know, Jay and Daniels needs to
sit for the rest of the year. This season's lost
for Washington. Hell gimme Washington on the road out to I'll
take the twenty and a half Washington road, give me
the over on on the forty six and a half.

Speaker 2 (01:54:12):
Let me tell you about helly On. Every goal starts
with an assist on and off the field. That's why
heley On and US Soccer launching for the Assist, the
celebration of everyday acts of support that help people achieve
their goals with iconic brands like Censin nine, Toms Voltaire,
and Advilain Centrum. To learn more, go to helly on
Assist dot com. We'll come back. We'll finish out the games.

(01:54:35):
All that next right here on Fox Sports Radio. All right,
we gotta thank the crew, thanks to Mary Mack. Of course,
our technical director Ian produced the show today. Thanks to
the SAG you're on the updates. Of course, Jason Martin
and Aaron Torres will be back next week. Appreciate them.
Letting us fill in. Bernie Fratto will be coming up next.

(01:54:59):
You gotta around for Bernie. Love his show. It's must
listen to, no doubt about that. VJ. Let's a kid
hit a few before we get out of here. You
mentioned Raiders Eagles. Big game for the Eagles, their big
favorite twelve and a half. I think they covered. I
think the Raiders are all but that in this one.

Speaker 3 (01:55:16):
You know what I mean? You know what game? Did
you just hit the Raiders and Eagles? Oh yeah, Raiders,
Raiders and Eagles. I don't like double digit spreads like this, man,
so uh gay.

Speaker 2 (01:55:27):
For the Eagles though, Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:55:29):
Well then they should get this one, man like, there's
no excuse to lose this one. In my opinion, they
got it. I gotta get this one.

Speaker 2 (01:55:35):
Three games like that, Jets and the Jaguars. Jaguars thirty
did not pourt favorite against the Jets.

Speaker 3 (01:55:41):
I don't like any of these double digits, sprites.

Speaker 2 (01:55:45):
I don't like that's so funny.

Speaker 3 (01:55:46):
I love all of them. No, No, and the.

Speaker 2 (01:55:48):
Texans ten and a half over the Cardinals.

Speaker 4 (01:55:50):
No.

Speaker 3 (01:55:50):
Listen, listen, listen. First of all, Ian gonna love me
if it is hey, listen, mbo mas. Jet's been playing
all right, man, they've been playing Aaron Glenn it's it was.
I thought it was just the most spot papasteras talk
of fire him and he. Remember we cross one Sunday
leaving and we're looking at each other like bro. We
hear people say fire man, oh and five and oh,
like get out of here with that man, that's ridiculous. No,

(01:56:12):
let's move some people. Let's get some Eagles out of here.
Let's get settled in. They play their butt off, they
play hard. They don't have a quarterback. We know that
they got to take care of that. But I don't
think this is just a walk game. The Jets are
gonna show up. Another thing about pro athletes in the
NFL to it this time of year. On bad teams,
they're putting tape out that the next coach or the

(01:56:35):
coach of the next team going in the free agency
might be looking at this, ain't the time to dog it.
You get a lot of these games where these guys.
That's why don't like these double digit these double digit
spress Listen, chim Kelly's gone, didn't didn't the Raiders look
a little bit better against the Broncos? Didn't they look
a little bit better? Again, they didn't look a kind
of a different team when you get certain things out

(01:56:56):
of the winner our Dolphins. What happened? GM gets GM parts? Ways? Whatever?
Did we look immediately different once him and Jalen Phillips
got out the door? Absolutely? So. I don't know if
I like all of these, but give me the man,
give me the Raiders to cover. I just don't think
this is eleven and a half points.

Speaker 2 (01:57:13):
Lions Rams are single Digitstow and the Rams are a
six point favorite. You've mentioned the Lions offense, how bad day? Well,
who do you like in this game?

Speaker 3 (01:57:22):
Uh? Man, Oh, it's in not Detroit offense. You just
don't know what you're gonna get. Brian Branch with the Achilles,
he's down that that d that secondary they're signing guys.
I just saw something came across my ticer ticker tape
the other day. They're signing another DBA that hasn't been
sitting on this sofa. That's not going to work. Uh,

(01:57:42):
five and a half, I got it a five and
a half. Give me the rams to cover.

Speaker 2 (01:57:45):
Yeah, I like the rams in this one also, but
that is a big number. It's not gonna go and
go up to six and a half or seven, fifty
four and a half.

Speaker 3 (01:57:53):
I think it's just called it at fifty five and
a half. And I'm glad. Yeah, and you know what,
give me the over game, honestly, give me, yeah, give me.
I think some points could be scored because this is
not a weather implemented game. It's gonna be seventy eight
degrees at kickoff tomorrow here in La.

Speaker 2 (01:58:07):
All right, let me ask you about the coach and
the Seahawks, mainly because I want to know. Just think
about phorp rivers and what's he going to put up.
I'm all in on this game.

Speaker 3 (01:58:16):
I can't wait.

Speaker 2 (01:58:17):
I think ratings are gonna be phenomenal for this game.
Seattle now up to a thirteen and other over the coach,
what do you see happening?

Speaker 3 (01:58:25):
Which is weird because the overrun is only forty three,
So what do they think they did? What he won
to that fight I got I called it in. I
caught it at forty three on I caught it on
forty three. A fan this morning at thirteen and a
half was the spread for Seattle. Sam Donald just feels
like it's coming right. It's like, you know it's coming.
He did He did this last year in Minnesota. He's

(01:58:45):
done this his whole career. He has these spats where
he's on and everybody's like, oh, look at Sam Donald,
and it's just like Dana Goodfellas. Guess what Harry does. Guys.
He still tells old Paul Ciccilo and Jimmy Conway. The
ending doesn't chase Sammy to Bullgrivan still snitches on John Gotty. Guys.
It doesn't change. So give me give me the Coltes
and my man Philip, Uncle Philip calling him. That's Uncle Phil,

(01:59:08):
that's Uncle Phil. From now on, moving forward, give me
Uncle phil to cover this thirteen and a half.

Speaker 2 (01:59:13):
Real quick Minnesota in Dallas the Sunday night games. Damas
still has a little bit of hope left in there.

Speaker 3 (01:59:19):
Nah man, I'm gonna pull with Minnesota on this. I
think they blitzed the hell out of Dallas. They could
run the football well. And you know, give me, give
me gimme Minnesota. I'm pulling for JJ. You know, JJ
is my guy, so I gotta I gotta stick with
my guy. I believe in true loyalty in life. Give
me gimme Minnesota to cover this five and a half.

Speaker 2 (01:59:34):
VJ. What time you on tomorrow so people can check
you out out my ten am.

Speaker 3 (01:59:38):
With my man Steve Hartman going into the Southern California
Radio Broadcast Hall of Fame in January. I will be
there that night, suited booty, looking good, feeling good, smelling good.
We're on from ten am to two pm ten am
Eastern Western Time till two pm on end Zone Radio
covering all of this Dolphins Monday night too, and we
and we win, no cover, We win pretty Friday. God

(02:00:01):
bless everybody, everybody,
