Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Rado. Oh, good morning,
Happy Saturday to you. I'll tell you what I can
predict that my guy, Jared Smith is in an extraordinarily
good mood today. Not because there's no Ornberger. Ornberger's his guy. Yeah,
I'm in a bad movie because of that. No Rich
show today, unfortunately. But it's all right. We're holding down

(00:24):
the fort in a very good mood today because Jalen
Brunson outstanding point guard. He has agreed to a contract
extension with the Knicks that is one hundred and thirteen
million dollars less than he was eligible to receive next year. Wow,

(00:45):
how about that? So he signs a four year, one
hundred and fifty six million dollar extension he was eligible
for a two hundred and sixty nine million dollar contract
next year. Wants to improve the roster and main flexibility.
What a guy. He is. Heaven sent for the Knicks
right there. Unbelievable.

Speaker 2 (01:06):
I think in the current age we live in Brian
which is greed right, It's the Gordon Gecko era of NBA.
Greed is good, it's the opposite. And to be fair,
I think if there was a team, like if you
were gonna character profile the NBA and you were gonna say,
all right, this guy's probably gonna take the max.

Speaker 1 (01:29):
This guy wants to max.

Speaker 2 (01:30):
This guy wants the max, this team's gonna give him
the max Max Max Max. If there was a team
that was kind of the gritty, take less to do
more later kind of vibe, like I think we're all
in agreement, it's probably the Knicks, Like they're all buddies,
they all play together in college and now we all

(01:52):
want to go win a championship together.

Speaker 1 (01:54):
So it it it fits the narrative, but.

Speaker 2 (01:57):
It's so against the run of play from what we
typically see.

Speaker 1 (02:02):
It's a story.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
It's arguably one of the most unique stories in the NBA.

Speaker 1 (02:07):
Off season that I've seen in recent memory. Yeah, and
Brunson said the reason for the pay cut is because
he wanted to follow Tom Brady, Patrick Mahomes, Derek Cheeters
blueprint to help the team win. And notice no NBA
guys on that list. That's it's a.

Speaker 2 (02:25):
Little different than the usual NBA vibe.

Speaker 1 (02:28):
Yeah, I'm just surprised this isn't a bit more commonplace, right, Like,
I get it. I understand why you're not seeing eighty
percent of the upper echelon players in the NFL, NBA,
even Major League Baseball. There's no salary cap there, right,
But yeah, even there, I'm surprised you don't see this

(02:50):
a bit more often because this is the vast exception, right.
You don't have a player that's about to earn a
max contract say you know what, I'll take one hundred
and thirteen million dollars here cut right. But I am
surprised you don't see this more often because look at
Brady and Mahomes in particular, they've made way more money

(03:13):
in the long run after winning championships then they have
lost by leaving some money on the table for a
contract extension. I'm just surprised you don't see more athletes
do this. It's not a knock if what comes to
mind the former, Well, the recent NBA champions, the Celtics, right,
Jyleb Brown, Jason Tatum. They've taken huge money, and I

(03:38):
get it right, like a lot of players say I'm
up for a max max extension. Let's max it out
right here. Yep? Uh, But right, aren't you surprised that
we don't see this a little more often where you're
playing the long game? And you're like, if I leave
a little money on the table, now, I could cash
in winning championships and earning even more money in the

(03:58):
long run. Yeah. But then I think when you boil
it down to let's say, in the.

Speaker 2 (04:03):
Last decade, I don't know how long, like the super
Max Max stuff has really been around, maybe decade or so. Really,
when it's been astronomical prices, how many guys have really been,
you know, taking advantage of it?

Speaker 1 (04:16):
What is it? You know, maybe a handful.

Speaker 2 (04:18):
Of really really key guys that can really move the needle.
And yeah, I mean they they've all taken the money.
I mean we see this all the time, Like this
is American culture playing out at the highest level. Go
watch a game show like a Deal or No Deal
kind of game show, and see how often they take
the safeer out like they're going for it. They want

(04:40):
the money, and you can't fault. I never fault anyone
for going for money, I understand, But boy do I
respect it when you have the foresight to look.

Speaker 1 (04:54):
At the long game.

Speaker 2 (04:55):
The long game is the only way the Knicks are
winning a title. This is the only path for the
Knicks to win a title. I think Jalen understands that,
and he wants to win a championship more than he
wants to make a few extra bucks. Because, let's be honest,
if he does win a championship in New York, with
how starved that city has been for a title, not

(05:15):
just in any sport but obviously in basketball, but this
last time New York won a championship in anything, it's
been like over a decade. He will make millions more
than what the money is now if he's able to
accomplish that in New York.

Speaker 1 (05:29):
I think the stat right now is that it's been
one hundred seasons for all the professional teams in New York, right,
like the Mets, Yankees, Jats, Giants, like everybody. One hundred
seasons since anybody's won a title. So yeah, and especially
for the Knicks, like you said, Jared, you got to
go all the way back to the early seventies. You know,

(05:51):
it's been forever. And just like Jalen, Brunson's teammate Josh
Hart tweeted, he wrote, build him a statue. Yes, like
that foraving that much money on the table. Yes, And
you're right if they somehow someway want a title there
he's a made man forever the rest of his NBA life,
so this at least gives him a better chance. We're

(06:12):
not saying this guarantees anything. That certainly doesn't, but I
think it does make life even if it doesn't result
in the title. I think it makes life better. I
think we look at Brady and Mahomes and you'll hear
these arguments quite a bit where it's like, well, they
didn't give Brady a star receiver and they lost Tyreek Hill, right,

(06:33):
the Chiefs did, and what is it? How is it
really helped them? It's like, bro, he could be they
both could have been commanding top dollar, and that means
you've got a skimp at a lot of spots. That
might mean you don't have that good cornerback, you don't
have that good left guard, you know what I mean. Like,
if you're commanding top dollar, that's a huge difference that

(06:57):
it makes. I'm surprised people look at it like that.

Speaker 2 (07:00):
Yeah, And now the best part about this is you
get to spin it forward and you know, you get
to figure out what the Knicks get to do with
this money.

Speaker 1 (07:07):
I mean, it's not.

Speaker 2 (07:08):
Going to change the dynamic of their roster. In a
major capacity. It's going to allow them to bring on
some more role players that can probably help them. And
I think I'm not like an NBA salary cap expert,
but if they stay under a certain threshold, you know,
the mid level exception and the trades, and it's just
like it's just the flexibility that they're allowed to have

(07:30):
with this. I don't know who they're going to bring in,
but whoever they do, if that person ends up being
one of the reasons why they win a championship, it
just adds even more value.

Speaker 1 (07:44):
Like even if they're a role player off the.

Speaker 2 (07:45):
Bench, but they hit like a game winning shot in
the playoffs or something. Yeah, like it just it just
adds that value to what Jalen brings to the table.
And there was a point in the postseason when he
was the MVP and just they ran out of gas
and just couldn't get across the finish line. Well, now
what Jalen's done is he's basically bought them a bigger

(08:08):
gas tank so they have a little bit more.

Speaker 1 (08:10):
You know.

Speaker 2 (08:12):
It's kind of like when you're the tank's on empty
and you're driving down the highway, like can I make
it to this station. Well, now you've got more room
in the tank, you can make it to the station, Jaalen,
you could get there. You're don't have to get to
the side of the road and have someone push like
it just it gives them so much more flexibility.

Speaker 1 (08:28):
It's such a cool story because, look, man, we've talked
about it with the sports culture these days, and a
lot of it is me, me me, it's I want
my money. I want if we're talking football, I want
my targets. If you're a wide receiver, I want this,
I want this MEMI me and Jalen Brunson is like team,

(08:48):
how can I help the team to leave one hundred
and thirteen million dollars on the table. It's crazy and
I would argue the best way possible. By the way,
breakfast at Wimbledon today, huh we got the Ladies final.
It's already started. And it's funny because they were warming
up together just before the match began. You know, like

(09:10):
this is a tennis thing where they're just you know,
kind of hitting the ball back in ip. I love
that so much, just the nature how things are different
from sport to sport. You would never see this, never
in many other sports. Can you imagine, let's take basketball,
we're just talking about that. Can you imagine before a
huge NBA Finals game that I don't know, like Lebron

(09:36):
and like, well he's in the West right now, so
it'd be like Lebron and Jason Tatum are just kind
of like throwing keep passes back and forth to it.
You know, it would just never have I love how
things change from sport to sport.

Speaker 2 (09:49):
Yeah, and they practice certain things too, like they will say, Hey,
I'm about to try this overhand slam or like like it.
It really is one of the more I have a
friend who's a professional tennis player on the ITF circle,
which is like the minor league circuit, and some of
the stories I hear from from the tennis you know,
the tennis road is very unique. I think the individual

(10:12):
sports are so unique because they're so you're just so
like you You're just out there on your own, like
and you just gotta figure it out. There's no team,
there's no scheme, there's no playbook, there's no hey, I'm
gonna do this and then you're gonna do that. It's
just I gotta go win. And then yeah, there's every
especially the international tournaments. They all have their own culture

(10:35):
to them. Shout out my mom. She just made her
first trip ever to Wimbledon. She's almost seventy years old.
She's the biggest tennis fan ever. She was there this summer.
And like people make like meccas across the world to
go to these events, like it really is, these standalone
international majors are And we're gonna get the British Open
in golf next week. It's gonna be a little early
from me here in Vegas, but we'll figure it out.

(10:57):
I mean, they just have so much culture and flair.
Probably some of my favorite events on the calendar. And
it's also great that these, you know, Wimbledon and the
British Opening Golf, they all happen in the summer.

Speaker 1 (11:07):
When there's nothing else going.

Speaker 2 (11:08):
On, so we could really focus in euro is another
good example of that.

Speaker 1 (11:11):
Yeah, it's uh, we've talked about it too. How soccer
It stood out to me right with Team USA and
Copa America where they had a player that received a
red card and they're just down a man for the
rest of the match. Can you imagine if there's a
personal foul penalty in the NFL and you're just you're
down your wide receiver for the rest of the game.
You just you don't have a guy. It's crazy. And

(11:35):
by the way, while we're talking about breakfast at Wimbledon,
we're guaranteed an eighth different champion in Wimbledon on the ladies' side, right,
There've been seven different champions the last seven finals, so
we're guaranteed in eighth. And I thought it was a
stinky line, little betting talk for you. Huh yeah, right, Chiekova,
she's the lower seed, she's the thirty one seed, yep,

(11:57):
and her opponent's the seventh seed. Meanwhile, the thirty one
seed was favored, like depending on where you shopped around
bet MGM had the lower seed at minus one thirty five.
And I'm like, I know, you don't know for sure
that krist Chikova is gonna win, but you're kind of
vindicating that she's a strong favorite here.

Speaker 2 (12:17):
Polini just had a great run to Roland Garros to
the final. Katchikova does have the experience, you know, she
has won a major before, and that matters. I think again,
that's that's the part of the individual sports. And you
guys know me by now, you've listened to this show
for several years. If it ain't if if we can't
bet on it, I'm not as interested in it.

Speaker 1 (12:37):
Well, we can bet on this stuff.

Speaker 2 (12:39):
And the way that I handicapped the individual sports, I'm
not this big tennis better. I think of all the
individual sports, golf is the one that I like to
bet the most. It's the one that I played growing up.
I grew up down there in South Florida. I was
a big golf guy. He's you know, in ninety six
Tiger Woods wins this first major I was ten years old.

Speaker 1 (12:56):
That's kind of when I got into.

Speaker 2 (12:57):
The sport and it's carried through since then. My mom's
really big in at tennis, so I always kind of
kept an eye on it growing up. But I was
never a big tennis fan. But the individual sports, I mean, Brian,
the physical talent, of course, is what gets you in
the door. But the brain, I mean, you're out there
on your own, like you are in your head, on
your own. And sometimes the younger players, unlike Carlos Aukeraz

(13:20):
was just like a freak. We'll talk about him a
little later in the show when we give out rapid
fire picks.

Speaker 1 (13:24):
About tomorrow's men's final.

Speaker 2 (13:26):
But it's just you're in your You're in your element,
like and if you can't handle the mental pressure that
comes with playing in a in a major final, you're
gonna will I don't care how good you are, how
highly seeded you are, you are going to wilt. So
I think the market kind of responded to that, and
kritikaba up a break.

Speaker 1 (13:42):
Early, about to go up two.

Speaker 2 (13:44):
Oh here, I guess Polini just, you know, those early
nerves in a major, younger player a little more inexperience,
has it handled it?

Speaker 1 (13:52):
Yeah, she's hit a bunch of wide shots. POULINI the
higher seed, looks bad right now. I just think it's funny.
Super fast, is uh. I feel a little guilty at times,
but not really. It's when I look at a betting
line and I'm like, wow, that stinks out loud. I

(14:12):
just have to take it, you know. And I'm not
following the the athletes or the teams very closely, or
maybe even the sport that closely, but I'm like, this
line is just flashing, like, oh yeah, be it, you know,
And so I don't feel guilty about that a little
bit where I'm like I haven't even heard of these

(14:34):
people or these teams or you know what I mean.
But it's like, this is just so obvious. You got
to take this side based on what the betting line
is telling you.

Speaker 2 (14:44):
It's you have to be the opposite of what Jasmine
Polini is right now, and you just have to not
think about it. Yeah, she's she It's clearly, she's clearly
in her head right now because now she's down uh
love fifteen in the next in the third game too,
on our next service game.

Speaker 1 (14:57):
So she's just she's not you know, sometimes.

Speaker 2 (15:00):
Early in these matches, it's just it's like a wave
and you just have to try to figure it out.
And I think the a little bit of the pressure
has gotten to her. But yeah, man, I mean stinky lines.
That's that's where we eat.

Speaker 1 (15:12):
Oh absolutely, we eat at the table of stinky lines.
Is how we get down over here, all right, he's
Jared Smith. I'm Brian No coming up around the corner.
This was one of the dumbest statements I've ever heard
in my life. I can't believe this guy has screwed
it up so badly. That's on the way it is

Speaker 4 (15:52):
Telling you how great we are, here's how Dan Patrick
described us when he came on our show.

Speaker 1 (15:57):
Quick, knowledgeable and funny, opinionated. What what are you doing
interrupting o promo?

Speaker 3 (16:03):
Yeah, you wasn't talking about you. You took those clips
totally out of context.

Speaker 4 (16:07):
Oh yeah, Well after this promo, I'm gonna take you
out and beat you.

Speaker 2 (16:11):
Let me put this into context.

Speaker 1 (16:13):
Shut up.

Speaker 4 (16:14):
Yeah, anyway, just listen to the Pauly and Toni Fusco
Show on Ihart Radio, Apple Podcasts oherever you get your podcasts.

Speaker 1 (16:20):
Yea, it is Fox Sports Saturday right here on Fox
Sports Radio. Man, So Jared, I, I can't believe my
ears still this whole Oklahoma State situation at Big twelve
Media Days, we just had to carve out a couple

(16:41):
of minutes to talk about this. It was so mind blowing.
So the story is this Oklahoma State star running back
Ali Gordon. He was arrested in late June for a
duy no suspension. He's not gonna miss a game, and
so Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gunn He was asked

(17:01):
about this during Big twelve media days, like, hey, why
no suspension? Jared? The answer for Mike Gundy. The audio,
it's he starts off about as well as you can
where it's like, you know, I've got kids myself, and
you're like, okay, all right, let's hear this, and then wow,

(17:23):
he drives straight into the median, you know what I mean,
like right into it. Check out this audio from Mike Gundy.

Speaker 5 (17:30):
When I looked at it, I thought, Okay, I'm gonna
be real honest with myself first and then make the
best decision for what I think is good for Allie,
our university, and our team. And then I start thinking
about being a parent. I have a twenty eight, I
have a twenty three and a nineteen, and first I thought, okay,

(17:51):
so I looked it up on my phone. What would
be the legal limit like in Oklahoma's point eight and
Olie was point one. So I looked it up and
it was based on body weight. Not to get into
the legal side of it, but I thought, really, two
or three beers or four. I'm not justifying what all

(18:13):
he did. I'm telling you what decision I made. Well,
I thought I've probably done that a thousand times in
my life.

Speaker 1 (18:19):
What what he's like, you know, Ali got lucky. I
told him he got very fortunate in this situation. That's
one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. Jared Seriously,
just a head coach just admitted to driving drunk on
the regular. He just admitted while trying to explain why

(18:40):
his star running back wasn't suspended for driving drunk, right,
Like it's bad enough to even admit that, but while
trying to explain the reason for no suspension insanity for
Mike Gundy right there.

Speaker 2 (18:54):
Yeah, I mean, Mike's always had his own way, right,
I'm a man, I'm forty like, he's always had his
own kind of and to be fair, certain parts of
the country view certain things very differently. It's just the
way that it is. And I think this is kind
of one of those responses that you probably only hear

(19:14):
in that.

Speaker 1 (19:15):
Part of the country.

Speaker 2 (19:16):
Like, I don't know how else to explain it other
than that like it. It felt very authentic. I will
say that, like, I don't think Mike is pulling any punches.

Speaker 1 (19:27):
He never does.

Speaker 2 (19:29):
I'm trying to think, like I appreciate Mike's perspective because
I also think more coaches should put themselves in their perspective.
Doesn't mean you have to verbalize it in front of
a room full of people and a microphone and a camera,
but you know, when you're in your own personal space,
think about that, because you are making a decision that
is going to not only impact the team, but also

(19:51):
impact the life of this young man. I think I
probably would have suspended him for a half oh, but
I don't know if I would have said one I
said or what Mike said. Yeah, this is one of
those stories that I think when we.

Speaker 1 (20:10):
Look back on it, we're gonna laugh hopefully and not cry.
There man, there's no laughing here because it's the subject
is drunk driving. Yeah, when you think about the severity
of that, it's like, how many people have died, how
many families have been forever damaged because of drunk driving accidents?
You cannot be in any way informal and just kind

(20:34):
of like, eh, you know, here's what I was thinking.
I looked up BAC online and look what I found. Really, dude,
are you serious right now? Like to me, the only
way he could say this, like there's no suspension for
Ali Gordon, which is a joke. This should at the
very least be a game, the very least, And you

(20:55):
start with the jack Rabbits, you start with an FCS team.
They're very good in FCS, but when you play the
big boys in FBS sometimes doesn't go very well. He
should be on the sideline for at least a game,
at the very least. Like, the only way you could
say this is to me, like Ali is so apologetic,

(21:17):
he fully understands, and with him grasping how serious this
situation is, and with him being so contrite, I just
didn't feel it necessary to add a punishment because he
understands that. That would be the only way, in my mind,
you could say it. But what he said was just

(21:39):
an absolute joke. Our guy Chris Burfett wants to chime
in on this. Technical Producer extraordinaire Hi I.

Speaker 6 (21:47):
The words from Gundhi really remind me of there's this
great sarcastic Twitter account called drill and his words remind
me of there's this very famous joke tweet he has
where it's like, drunk driving may kill a lot of people,
but it also helps people get to work on time,
so it's impossible to say whether it's bad or not.
It feels like that's the argument Mike Gundy is like

(22:09):
making here this like very tortured. Yeah, it's fine because
I need this guy to play football.

Speaker 2 (22:14):
Yeah, there's definitely an element of let's try to figure
out a way.

Speaker 1 (22:19):
To make it seem like it's not as big of
a deal as it is. I either.

Speaker 6 (22:22):
Really, his math is completely off. I've I've one of
my early jobs was doing e learning modules. One of
them was for Brown Foreman and Its Ambassadors. His his
his idea of how alcohol in the body works is
way way off.

Speaker 2 (22:35):
That That is another part of this that I think
I don't want to dissect because I don't have that
kind of context that you.

Speaker 1 (22:41):
Do, Chris.

Speaker 2 (22:42):
But the way he kind of laid it out was
a little bit simpler than I think the way the
human body works. And again, this is this feels like
and I'm not trying to put a, you know, a
regional bias on it. But I don't think this would
have ever happened at USC, like if the USC star
back I had a similar thing happen. Like, I just
think it just is treated differently because Mike Gundhi just

(23:05):
has a bit of a different approach than I think
most of the most of the other coaches in this
country probably will, and you know, the air like he
has to answer to the boosters and he has to
answer to the program who Again, it's just it they
do things differently in Oklahoma. I think, like that's really
the only explanation I can give to why he gave

(23:25):
that kind of a response.

Speaker 6 (23:27):
Do you guys feel like there is a problem now,
Maybe it's with nil, Maybe it's with coaches getting a
ton of power because also at the same time, I
saw two Georgia football players were arrested on misdemeanor charges
for reckless driving, which is just part of an incredibly
long line of vehicle offenses that seem to happen with
the University of Georgia. Do you think like some of
these programs, because of the power they are getting, or

(23:50):
because of the stakes involved they're getting really lax or
simply don't want to even discipline their athletes on these
kind of grounds at all.

Speaker 1 (23:58):
I don't know, I think that well. I just think
that especially now that a lot of coaches wire will
prioritize winning over discipline, and this guy.

Speaker 2 (24:09):
Wants to win want they want him.

Speaker 1 (24:14):
Yeah, but it's like, look, man, at least be smart
enough to understand, like how significant the subject is that
you're talking about. That I agree with. Come on it if,
like I don't know, if you have a star player
who's involved in some sort of domestic violent situation, you
should know how significant that subject is. And you got

(24:38):
to be very very careful with what you say and
how you frame things. Same thing with drunk driving. You
you can't be like googled something and three or four beers.
I've done that thousands of times. Really, dude, are you serious?
That is what you say as a head coach of
a football team and a major university. That's such a joke.

Speaker 3 (24:59):
Man.

Speaker 1 (25:00):
You could not be more blind when you approach it
that way.

Speaker 2 (25:03):
Yeah, Mike GUNDI I mean again, this is this is
Mike Gundy's way, Like this is just you know, his vibe.
I think, and the whole Ama Man on forty thing
was a very different situation. That's obviously the viral moment
that that got him on the national stage.

Speaker 1 (25:17):
It was a lot, It was a long time ago.
Now actually, I want to say it's been over it.

Speaker 2 (25:20):
I think Gundhy's pushing fifty now, it's like fifty six.

Speaker 1 (25:25):
I think now, yeah, yeah, So it's just it again.

Speaker 2 (25:28):
It's it's a story that I think if it happened
in a different part of the country would have been
handled very differently. And I know that sounds really crass,
but you have to understand the regional dynamics that.

Speaker 1 (25:39):
Are at play here. Like it's just different.

Speaker 2 (25:41):
It's just treated like the way that Mike views drinking
and driving is wrong, first of all, but also it's
probably a very popular sentiment with people who live in
that part of the country. All right, So right around
the corner some advice that is completely top notch here

(26:03):
Jared this right.

Speaker 1 (26:04):
Across this video. It's hysterical. It could not be more
on point. First though, talking about someone who could not
be more on point, that would be our guy, Isaac
Lowenkron with the latest what it's going on? I low
you know, as usual.

Speaker 7 (26:19):
I appreciate the intro because going down the road you
guys were going on with Mike Gundy. I thought the
segue was going to be speaking of people who put
their foot in their mouth.

Speaker 3 (26:30):
Here's Isaac.

Speaker 2 (26:32):
Appreciate turn there at the end, the little turn with
our car. We weren't driving drunk, though.

Speaker 7 (26:37):
We're exactly great restraint on your part. We start with
the ladies singles final at Wimbledon. Right now, Barbara kray
Chikova of the Czech Republic has a four games to
one lead over Italy's Jasmine Pallini in the first set.
The NBA multiple outlets report Denver rookie first round draft
pick de Ron Holmes has suffered a torn white achilles

(26:57):
and is expected to miss the upcoming season on the court.
In the Summer League Friday night, the Houston Rockets defeated
of the Los Angeles Lakers ninety nine to eighty. Brownie
James and twenty seven minutes scored eight points on three
of fourteen shooting from the field, with five rebounds.

Speaker 1 (27:12):
And two steals.

Speaker 7 (27:13):
Baseball Friday night, Willie Calhoun of the Angels hit a
game winning two run home run and the bottom of
the tenth inning to top the Seattle Mariners six to five.
The Arizona Diamondbacks with a five to four win over
the Toronto Blue Jays. Arizona's won nine of thirteen Atlanta
with a six to one victory at San Diego, the
Braves have won five of seven. Finally, we have a

(27:34):
tragic addendum to the death of Minnesota Vikings rookie cornerback
Kyrie Jackson, who, along with two of his high school teammates,
were killed in a car crash a week ago. Last night,
a candlelight vigil was held for the three victims at
their old high school in Upper Marlborough, Maryland. After the

(27:56):
vigil had concluded, someone open five in the parking lot
of the high school, killing an adult male and wounding
an adult female. A suspect or motive have not been
identified as of yet. The injuries to the adult female
are non life threatening. Indeed, a tragic addendum fellas, let's

(28:20):
go back to you man.

Speaker 1 (28:21):
That is crazy right there. I don't know, I have
no words for that, but yeah, the tragic car accident
which claimed lives and then I don't know, we got
some sort of argument and then opening fire at the
candlelight vigil. That's insane. That what we're doing here. All right,

(28:45):
we're gonna lighten the mood just a bit here. Yes, Jared,
he's Jared Smith FSR betting analyst. I'm Brian know. There's
a video I ran across and so we have a
text chain for like the Countdown Show on Sundays and
Russ who is tied to us here at Fox Sports

(29:06):
Radio and on the BEDMGM side, he kind of like
brought the two worlds together for Countdown to kick off.
But he sent this video to the Sunday Show group
and it's a girl and she's got betting advice if
your partner loses the last leg of a parlay, okay,

(29:26):
and this advice Jared, it's just like if it's like
checking boxes, it'd be like ding ding ding, Like yes, yes, yes,
check this out. It is hilarious. Here are some things
you should and should not say if your boyfriend has
just lost his parlay, specifically on the last leg.

Speaker 2 (29:44):
I've dated a sports gambler for like over a year now,
so I've learned the dudes, and don't Number one.

Speaker 1 (29:50):
Do not say why didn't you pick the other team?
Because like obviously the one was a winner and was
a loser. Erbould you pick a loser?

Speaker 3 (29:56):
Don't say that?

Speaker 1 (29:57):
Instead say right read wrong results, dang. Do not say
how much would you have won? Because if it was
on the last leg, he's already spent it, at least mentally,
he's already spent it. So that's just that's just gonna
crush him mentally and financially. Instead say wow, Vegas didn't
want you to win. They really screwed you over there. Man,

(30:17):
this one's gonna be a little bit confusing. But do
not say wow, you were so close. You'll get him
next time. He knows how close he was, That's why
it hurt so much. Instead say at that team they sting,
They're the worst. They suck, man, they suck.

Speaker 6 (30:36):
I'm so upset with you.

Speaker 1 (30:37):
And then, last, but not least, do not ask so
how much are you down this week? Instead stay silent?
So good luck, ladies. Tremendous advice.

Speaker 2 (30:53):
Oh my goodness, So I saw that video pop up
on my feed. I didn't get a chance to actually
watch it through to the end yet or listen to
it through the end yet, So that was the first
time for me. Yeah, she's one hundred percent right. You
know what this kind of reminds me of. It reminds
me of when you when you go on a date

(31:13):
or you're seeing someone. You know, you've been on a
few dates with someone and you got to you know,
you want to tell them about your life. You want
to tell them all the things that make you you.
For me, it's been a it's been a challenge with
telling significant others or people of the opposite sex about
my job and what I do every day.

Speaker 1 (31:35):
For a living.

Speaker 2 (31:36):
And they think that I'm, you know, some kind of
degenerate in some hole somewhere just watching games all day
and betting it. And to an extent that's true. I
think I've you know, legitimized it a little bit. But
I think this kind of advice, frankly, is really important
because we are now in a generation of gamblers, like

(31:58):
the youth of our society. I mean, you know how
much this is taken off. We talk about it every
stinking week.

Speaker 1 (32:05):
We need to.

Speaker 2 (32:05):
Educate people on this, like it's okay to do the
things that we talk about every week. You're not this
like criminal if you're gambling on sports every week and
you're kind of a degenerate about it. I think there's
a nerd there's like a nerdy to it that I
think is appreciated in some circles. But I think the
education aspect for women who don't understand it is important.

(32:27):
So thank you anonymous social media user for educating women.
Hopefully they take your advice because that is very important.

Speaker 1 (32:34):
Do not poke the bear after bad losses. Yeah, shout
out to Paige Adderly. Audio is hosted on her page.
She did an awesome job. But it's just it's so funny.
It's not just a sports betting thing. It's so many
aspects in life where you try to say things that
help your partner, and there are times where you don't

(32:56):
even realize you could be saying the worst thing possible
in that moment, you know what I mean, Like if
you lose a bet on the last leg of a
parlay and it might be a disgusting beat on top
of it, which often is the way parlays topple. You know,
if you say, oh, you were so close, you're trying
to help, that makes it way worse. I was so there. Yeah,

(33:19):
it doesn't calm me down at all.

Speaker 2 (33:21):
I have a friend who she recently graduated college, she's
in the gambling space. She works at one of the
other networks, and she's also doing this, you know, for
her friends, because all of her friends. And I feel
for the ladies who like to gamble, because like for us,
it's easy. For men, it's easy. We have our group chat,

(33:42):
we talk, we exchange stuff, we joke, we laugh, we
make fun of each other when we lose, we have fun.

Speaker 1 (33:47):
Blah blah blah. It's not as much of.

Speaker 2 (33:49):
A gambling culture amongst women, Like there's probably not as
many if I were willing to bet the amount of
male gambling group chats to all female gambling group chas
like that, that's a big gap between those two numbers.
But again, I think this new generation is kind of
excited about the gamification of sports, so I think that

(34:11):
number will increase.

Speaker 1 (34:12):
We're more actually, to be fair, I.

Speaker 2 (34:14):
Got these numbers from bet MGM recently during the Super Bowl. Granted,
Taylor Swift had a big help in that. The biggest
growth market in the sports betting space right now, one.

Speaker 1 (34:24):
Of them's women. Women betting is exponentially increasing.

Speaker 2 (34:28):
You're seeing the advertisers starting to catch on, and obviously
the sportsbooks have profiled this. This is all gonna change,
like the dynamics and the demographics of gambling is going
to change. I'm not saying women are gonna overtake man,
that's never gonna happen. But you are seeing a lot
more educated, entertaining women enter the space from a media
perspective too, and that's gonna invite a lot more, you know,

(34:51):
just overall vibes from both sides of the aisle. I think,
and this is listen, this is we're in the fact
the third inning of this. So I think we're gonna
keep these videos.

Speaker 1 (34:59):
Though, are hilarious. I love the real.

Speaker 2 (35:03):
World applications to what we do every day because it
is very helpful.

Speaker 1 (35:07):
I'll just say this super fast is there are a
lot of men who bet. The ladies are starting to
bet more, but I think way more times than not.
If you look at a relationship, I think you're gonna
find way more relationships where just the guy bets absolutely
instead of just the girl bets right. And I just
think that dynamic is funny where a lot of the

(35:28):
ladies look at their guys and they see the stress,
maybe they see the anger, and they're like, this looks terrible.
Why would I just can you imagine if it's the
other way around, where the girl is betting at times,
she's stressed, at times she's angry. The guys are just like,
this looks like fun, This is like a great time.
Let's get involved in. All right. He's Jared Smith FSR,

(35:49):
betting analyst. I'm Brian Noll, coming up next the parlay pladder.
Jared has been hard at work. We will see what
he unveils. Right around the corner. It is Fox Sports Saturday,
right here on Fox Sports Video. It is Fox Sports Saturday,
right here on Fox Sports Radio. Shout out Tom Cruise
checking out the Ladies final at Wimbledon. Yeah, kind of cool.

(36:11):
Doesn't have anything to do with this segment, but I
thought we would shout him out real fast. It's kind
of cool. Legendary actors in the building. Yeah yeah, yeah,
yeah yeah. Nice shades as well. You know, check out
the sleek black All right, we've got some business to
attend to. Let's dive into this.

Speaker 3 (36:32):
Check this out barlay letter.

Speaker 1 (36:35):
All right, shared, you've been in the lab cooking this up.
What do you have for us?

Speaker 2 (36:39):
Well, we hit a parlay platter last week, very exciting.
It was a soccer parlay. Soccer dying down a little bit.
I will have a selection for the Eurofinal coming up
later in the show. I'm very excited about that tomorrow,
very excited about the Wimbledon final as well tomorrow morning
between Djokovic and Alkaaz.

Speaker 1 (36:58):
But this is to the baseball dime.

Speaker 2 (37:00):
We go here, one last weekend of Major League Baseball
before we take a break, hang them up for a
few days. It is a very exciting time. I love
the All Star break. And we'll talk a little bit
of home runnery also later in the show. But let's
get to the business here. Parlay platter today all money lines.
So we're gonna go with a baseball money line parlay.
We don't do money lines too often, but I'll be

(37:22):
honest this last weekend before the All Star break. I know, Brian,
you can probably relate to this when you watch the
NBA as they head into their All Star break, and
also I think you can compare it to NFL teams
getting ready to go on the bye week. Sometimes it's
a mixed bag. Some guys their head is already in
Kankun ready for their vacation. Some guys, hey, this is

(37:44):
my time to shine. It's hard to kind of figure
out who's there and who's not, So I like to
go to an old, reliable. This is a baseball trend
that I use when I'm trying to fish down in
the bag for a bat and I can't really find nothing.

Speaker 1 (37:57):
And this is kind of where we're at.

Speaker 2 (37:58):
It's baseball favorites who were a favorite yesterday, who lose,
and then they're a favorite again today. Those tend to
be a pretty profitable wager long term. Now, one of
the teams of the three here don't fit that narrative,
but we'll get to them in a minute. First, teams
that were a favorite yesterday who lost.

Speaker 1 (38:17):
Let's start with the Phillies. They lost to the A's yesterday.
I don't think they're gonna lose two in a row.

Speaker 2 (38:22):
Tyler Phillips versus Mitch Spence not the most you know,
star studded pitching matchup here. Phillips actually made his major
league debut out of the bullpen last Sunday at Atlanta.
Tough spot to make your major league debut. I know
the Brads don't have Acunya, but he was really good.
Four innings, three hits, one run, no'll walk seven k's
and four innings. So I'll bet on Tyler Phillips, Phillies

(38:43):
youngster who's again just making making his sauce here in
the major leagues.

Speaker 1 (38:47):
For the first time.

Speaker 2 (38:48):
I bet on him to bounce back for this Phillies
team after losing yesterday the Mariners wild game yesterday in
Anaheim last night, I'll take the Mariners today. George Kirby's
been fantastic two three in his last five.

Speaker 1 (39:01):
Jose Soriano on the other side for the Halos.

Speaker 2 (39:03):
With a seven ERA yikes, and finally the team that
doesn't match it, but they were a slight underdog. Yesterday
the Orioles lost to the Yankees and Garrett Cole much
better pitching matchup today in favor of Baltimore. Grayson Rodriguez
goes for the O's. He's been great this season. Luis
Hill has also been good for the Yankees, but recently
the Rookies kind of come back down to earth a
little bit, coming off a really good start to the

(39:25):
Red Sox. But prior to that is three starts before that,
we're all fours five, seven earned runs allowed. So again,
the long season for the Rookies he's gone almost one
hundred innings this year. Starting to see a low regression
with Luis Heel. So we'll go Phillies money line, Mariners
money line Orioles money line plus three twenty at bet
MGM bray. Not too shabby for a three team chalk

(39:46):
money line parlay here on this.

Speaker 1 (39:48):
Yeah, not bad at all? Right there? Oh gosh, I
had the Mariners last night. Oh that was a rough game.

Speaker 2 (39:55):
That was a wild game, too early and late scoring,
not much in the middle.

Speaker 1 (39:59):
Just a hang in the middle of the plate for
a walk off to run Homer. That's the worst. I'll
tell you what, man, I've been thinking about this year.
Where the the comeback in baseball? If you're on the
winning end, that's one of the sweetest wins you can have.
Right your team is just clawing its way back. It's

(40:20):
one of the worst beats you can have when your
team has like a four, five run lead and the
other team is just slowly creeping back and you're like,
oh my gosh, it's slipping away. I hate the comeback
loss in baseball.

Speaker 2 (40:35):
It's in, it's done, it's over. Fifteen minutes later, I
move on with my day.

Speaker 1 (40:42):
Yeah, that's it.

Speaker 2 (40:43):
But you know what, today we're going a little different
money lines.

Speaker 1 (40:47):
I like what you're thinking on this one. Yes, kif
it hits all right? Coming up next. He's more name
than game, and I've got two words for him. Oh,
good morning, Happy Saturday to you. Welcome in here. So
unfortunately no Rich show, but we're holding things down here, Jared.
We're un summer league in action in the NBA, and

(41:13):
Bronnie James was in action last night. Now listen, a
couple of things need to be said. Let's be reasonable
here and it'll be more than just Bronnie James. But
there's good news, bad news, and ugly news, okay for
Bronnie James. So last night, the good news he scored
eight points, you know, yeah, a couple there, Yeah, above

(41:34):
his average, that's true. The bad news is he took
fourteen shots, oh, only made three of them. So that's
not good. That's not good. The ugly news is that
Bronnie is oh for twelve from three during summer league games.
So he's over a couple of things here. You know

(41:55):
those videos that you'll see, it's not just a Bronnie
James thing, but you'll see an athlete like Bronni hitting
three after three after three in like an open gym
or even the rookie training camp and he's just draining
threes and you're like, wow, it's much different than games.

(42:17):
You know, in games zero for twelve from three is
Yike's ola. I remember Ben Simmons, Remember how bad he
has been shooting threes when he's on the court and
healthy enough to do so. He's had some videos where
he looks like Steph Curry in an open gym and
you're like, wow, look at that. Yeah, wait till the games. Okay,

(42:38):
that's the first thing here, and then after the game.
The other important thing is Bronni's open to playing in
the G League, which is what he needs to be
open to. Yeah, that's the best place for him right now.
He's not NBA ready. He's got to work on his
game and develop. It's fine, but those are the two words, right,
degeneration acts, I got two for you. It's not what

(43:01):
you know it is. It's G league if G counts
as a word, it is G league right now. Because
he's got to develop.

Speaker 2 (43:09):
Six for twenty six so far, and again, I'm not
gonna make it seem like this is the end all,
be all, but this fits what we expected. Sometimes we
go into a certain situation expecting something and the opposite happens.
I think if we went into this g league and
Bronnie was six for twelve from three and like fifteen

(43:34):
for twenty six from the floor, we're like, oh, man,
maybe we were wrong about you know, him not being
ready for the league. Maybe there's a little bit of
a you know, come up in for Brownie here and
he's showing us that he does belong. No, we we expected.
I guess my expectations were low. I think other people

(43:55):
maybe had higher expectations, or at least we're trying to
paint the rosy picture.

Speaker 1 (44:00):
But it is what it is. Right, this was a guy.

Speaker 2 (44:04):
That didn't have a very successful college career. He got overdrafted.
Now he gets thrown into the fire against guys that
are probably a year ahead of him in terms of
the talent scale, the body scale. Right, you're facing a
lot of second year guys in g lee or in
the summer league, and it's just you could see that
there's a little bit of a divide there on the

(44:24):
other side. Let's let's go, let's go glass half full.
Dalton connect, who is a first round pick. Frankly was
underdrafted at seventeen. I thought he was going to be
a top ten kind of guy. He looks fantastic, So
you can kind of see the two directions we're going
in here now. I don't want to overreact to Summer League,

(44:45):
just like I don't want to overreact to a really
good performance and put some dude in the Hall of
Fame after a couple of Summer League games. I don't
want to overreact to a bad performance either. But I
think the consensus coming into the coming into this, you know,
little summer league, little service out here in Vegae, very
excited to have all the NBA people in Vegas.

Speaker 1 (45:04):
By the way, it's gonna be a fun week or
so here. But is that Browny's not ready.

Speaker 2 (45:08):
So nothing that's happened in the first two games or
his early action here has gotten us off of that opinion.
So I think we're all still in the Yeah. Probably
needs a little bit of a tune up. I think
the part that I'm excited about, or at least optimistic about,
is that he's open to that, you know, not getting
the free hand right to the NBA, open to the

(45:29):
g League. Take it like, you know, take it, take
it in stride as they say, Yeah.

Speaker 1 (45:35):
It's listen, man, we know it's summer league. So the
way I look at it is the impressive performances. I'm like, Okay,
what's likely to translate against much better competition when you're
playing in NBA games? Right? So take Zach Edy for instance,
Zach Edy from Purdue. He didn't play last night, but

(45:55):
his first game in Summer League was really, really good.
And there are a lot of people like, whoa look
at Zach Edy over here, and he did some impressive things.
But against better competition when they're just gonna put him
in pick and roll and it's like, okay, Zach, try
to guard Jalen Brown in the open court, It's like, oh, okay,
that's not good here. So that's I'm a little skeptical

(46:18):
on Zach Edy. How much is going to translate when
we're playing against the best competition possible For a guy
like Reed Shepherd last night with Houston, Yeah, when he's
just draining logo threes, that's going to translate whether you're
playing against the Summer League guy or an NBA guy,
That shot making ability is going to translate to NBA games,

(46:41):
and that's where the flip side of it. I don't
want to say no chance, no how with Bronni based
on a couple of summer league games, But man, when
you're struggling mightily against summer league competition, that's a whoa.
That is a gigantic red flag. Because if we take
a from the NFL, it would be like a preseason

(47:03):
game and a quarterback really struggling against like the twos
or the threes on defense out there, and you're like,
oh gosh, that's not a good sign going forward. I mean,
I think we again, we just.

Speaker 2 (47:16):
Have to take it for what it is, like he's
not ready for the NBA. I think the surprise would
have been the upside. I think this is like, if
we were handicapping it from an odds perspective, it would
probably be like minus two hundred or even juicier than
that that Bronnie struggled, Right, it's about a six, you know, seven,

(47:37):
about seven out of ten, eight out of ten scenarios,
Bronnie's gonna struggle early on, and then we get the
random offshoot scenario, maybe one or two scenarios where hey,
he's great. Wow, maybe he's better, or I'll leave it
at this one scenario maybe where he's okay, and then
one scenario where he overachieves. But the majority of the

(47:58):
scenarios that we play out in this little Monte Carlo
simulation we do here, he's gonna struggle and he's going
to have to be in the G League. The question
is not whether or not he's going to struggle. I
think we all kind of expect that. Now, it's how
he handles it and how the Lakers handle it. Because
here's the interesting part, and we're starting to hear, you know,
now that we have games, we have the postgame comments,

(48:21):
which is always interesting in the NBA. That's when we
usually get the most drama. Right, how the Lakers handle it.
Are they going to openly criticize his game or are
they going to be a little more Mike Gundy esque
with how they criticize and say, oh, you know, I
would have been struggling in the G League too if
I was Bronnie James, right, and you know, kind of
gloss over the negatives because of the dad that's probably

(48:46):
watching the press conference in the back of the room
making sure that nothing derogatory gets said.

Speaker 1 (48:49):
About his son.

Speaker 2 (48:50):
It's it's a unique situation that's brewing. I respect Bronni
right now for again taking it in stride.

Speaker 1 (48:57):
If you struggle own up to it.

Speaker 2 (48:59):
I'm struggling. I need to go to the G League.
I need to get better. That's the attitude I think
he needs to have.

Speaker 1 (49:04):
Yeah, our trusted producer Bo Benson as something on this.

Speaker 8 (49:07):
I saw someone on I think the other network say
what I've been thinking this whole time too, which is
people need to stop talking about Bronnie as if he's
a lottery pick, because that's kind of what people are doing.
Like you don't have the NBA central Twitter account posting
the stat line of other fifty fifth overall picks in
the NBA draft, but because it's Bronnie James, that happens, right.

(49:29):
And one thing that I think is kind of being
lost in everything with Bronnie is that there was a
game a couple of nights ago where he actually kind
of showed why he could one day be an NBA player.
It's because he's good. He's good defensively, like he can
he can play defense in the NBA. So if he can,
you know, somehow get that shot to start falling and
somehow turn into a guy that can move the ball.

(49:51):
He's going to carve out an NBA career. He's never
going to be his dad, because nobody will. But I
do think that just because his last name is James,
he gets a little bit of undue criticism, which we
all knew was gonna happen anyway. But it's just it's
so funny to me to see, like, yeah, Twitter accounts
posting his stat line as if the Lakers took him
seventeenth overall and not fifty fifth.

Speaker 2 (50:11):
Yeah, we just need to relax on that. I think
in general, the summer league stuff is way over hyped.
Let these guys get a chance to get acclimated to
the league.

Speaker 1 (50:19):
And that's outline.

Speaker 8 (50:20):
That's the thing too, is the Lakers summer league team
plays with no organization whatsoever. They look like the g
leaguing night out there.

Speaker 2 (50:26):
Just twelve shots from deep is not going to shape
anyone's career. I think again, the surprise would have been
to the upside. The surprise would have been, oh my god,
it looks great, but him struggling. Most of these guys struggle,
like especially in the second round and beyond, like most
of these guys strugg It is very rare for a

(50:47):
guy to come right into the league and play great,
and especially a guy who's not supposed to come into
the league and play great, like even the top tier
rookie struggle, Even the Victor Webbin Yamas have bad nights.
I just think we do need to temper our expectations.
But to me, the biggest part of this story going
forward is not how Bronnie plays. It's the reactions from

(51:08):
inside his locker room, inside the league, et cetera, et cetera,
and just the.

Speaker 1 (51:12):
Overall buzz that comes with it.

Speaker 2 (51:14):
I think more scenarios than not, Bronni should be in
the G League. He should accept that, and we should
just you know, develop him over time and not expect
him to be his dad right out of the gate.

Speaker 1 (51:25):
Yeah, it's it's an interesting conversation because I'm not rooting
against the kid, you know. I think that he's in
a spot where he didn't ask for any of this stuff. No,
they showed a side by side picture of Lebron's first
game in Summer League and how many microphones were around

(51:47):
him and Bronni's first game in Summer League, and it
was like all these microphones, nothing's changed, and it's like
Lebron's a number one overall pick. Bronnie is a number
fifty five overall pick. It's completely different, but the covering
is very, very similar. So that is a tough spot
for Bronni to be under such a huge spotlight and

(52:07):
trying to just develop and figure it out on the fly.
It's not easy. So I'm not rooting against the kid,
but I think at the same time, you gotta be accurate,
and there's this tendency to kind of be like, well,
he did hit the one shot though, right, It's like, no, man,
he is stunk out loud, like that's just the reality here.

(52:28):
That's not hatred, that's not anything negative. That's just reality
and the best place for him. And he understands it.
He said it after the game last night. He's like, Hey,
I'm open to playing basketball whatever level that happens to
be on. Good. That's good. Yes, there's nothing wrong with
developing in the G League instead of just rotting on
the bench and not getting much playing time. How are

(52:50):
you gonna get better that way in the NBA? Yeah?
I agree one hundred percent.

Speaker 2 (52:54):
And this isn't the first time that we've had sons
of former players come into their respective sports that their.

Speaker 1 (53:01):
Dad's played in and have struggled.

Speaker 2 (53:03):
It ain't the first time, it ain't gonna be the
last time. And those players the younger right the Suns,
they are in a unique situation because they have the
experience of being around the game for longer, so maybe
the expectations are higher, but still, at the end of
the day, it's a sport. In basketball, you've got to

(53:25):
make the shots. If the shots don't fall or if
the you know the scheme you're trying to run, if
you're not executing, if you're not on your point when
you're running your sets, you're gonna struggle and you have
to be transparent about that, and you have to be
open to that. From everything I've heard and from everything
I've seen, I don't think any of the negative vibes

(53:46):
from this story are gonna come from Brownie. It feels
like it's all coming from the outside. It actually kind
of feels like, in a mutated way, the Caitlin Clark situation,
where Caitlin herself is handling it very well and classy,
but the media buzz, as you said, Brian, with all
the microphones around someone who really isn't supposed to have
a lot of microphones around him. That is creating the

(54:10):
artificial noise here, and it's Bronnie's job and frankly the
Lakers job to block that out and to just tell
Bronni listen, dude, focus on your game. Improve. You're not
gonna come in and be an All Star right away.
You're probably not even gonna make the roster, but we
want you to succeed, and we're gonna make We're gonna
hopefully put you in a position to succeed. But again,

(54:32):
taking it in stride. When you have a bad game,
own it and don't do the mic Gundy gloss over.
It's all good, no big deal because he's Bronni or
lebron Son and everything's gonna be hung heter. No, you
stink out loud, as Brian said, own it and improve.

Speaker 1 (54:48):
Yeah, No, that's pretty much it. And I'll say this
super fast is if you do the Caitlin and Bronny thing,
I think that it isn't just playing bad basketball. When
you have that much attention on you read it's like
a boxing comparison right where you're a boxer in the
first round the other fighter is just throwing haymakers at you,

(55:12):
and he's landed a couple or she has landed a couple,
right in Caitlyn's case, right, and you're just like, holy cow,
like you're trying to find your sea legs. Like That's
how I would compare it with Caitlyn and Bronnie is
it's not just going out there and playing basketball and
developing and working on your game. There's just so much

(55:32):
scrutiny on top of it. I think it makes it
harder to just ease in and find your sea legs. Right,
totally agree. And Caitlyn has found it for sure, and hey,
hopefully Bronni will, but the odds aren't great not rely on.

Speaker 2 (55:50):
I think it would be a really cool story if
he went to the G League, improved and then let's
say mid season, late season, there's injuries, whatever, got his
opportunity and overachieved to the upside. Because right now we expect,
we have very low expectations.

Speaker 1 (56:08):
So far we have not raised the bar.

Speaker 2 (56:10):
It would be cool if he kind of went away
for a while, improved his game, polished it up, came
back and looked great.

Speaker 1 (56:17):
That would make this story fricking awesome. Yeah, right, it
would change it because to a lot it looks like
he was just given this opportunity. And if he went
to the G League and worked on his game and
he saw a noticeable difference, yeah, that might change the
view of some people as far as that goes. All right,
He's Jared Smith FSR betting analyst. I'm Brian Noll coming

(56:38):
up next. Maybe a new nickname for a well known
quarterback and also a top five list. This guy's top
five list is trash. We will try to improve our
top five lists. That's on the around the corner. It
is Fox Sports Saturday, right here on Fox Sports Radio.
It is Fox Sports Saturday, right here on Fox Sports Radio. Okay, So,

(57:02):
Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill, he was a guest on
Sports Center yesterday and he was talking about his guy
to a tugav looe right to a once a big
contract extension. There are some people saying, you know, to
he's a product of the system. He's got Mike McDaniel
as a play caller. Does he deserve fifty five million

(57:23):
dollars per year? So here's what Tyreek Hill had to
say about the critics for people.

Speaker 9 (57:28):
To like sit here and try to discreate a tool
and say, you know, he's not deserving of a contract
is wild to me, man, because a lot of like
a lot of guys on the team understands his value
and understands, you know, that we need him like we
need we need his leadership, we need you know, his mindset,
Like the mindset that he brings into each and every

(57:50):
week is there, Like it's like it's like terminator almost.

Speaker 1 (57:53):
Man.

Speaker 9 (57:53):
So I feel like he should be one of the
highest paid quarterbacks in the league. You know, obviously say
some room for me.

Speaker 1 (58:02):
Yeah, so he still wants his huge money payday too
as well. But you know the thing that strikes me
Jared is to his position is, hey, the market is
what it is. If Jared Goff is making this much money,
yeah right, Like where's my big bag? As well? He
led the league in passing yardage last season. He's put

(58:23):
up numbers. He was fully healthy last season as well.
So there's no Jalen Brunson leaving money on the table
mindset with Tua Tongue Bailoa because it's a different negotiation.
The Dolphins are like, eh, well and two is like
pay me. So he is trying to get every last
cent he can on this big money contract that he

(58:46):
has deserved. He's put himself in position to get that
and it's just a matter of time until he does
get it.

Speaker 2 (58:53):
Yeah, I'll be honest, it's it's I don't want to
say the opposite, because I think it's.

Speaker 1 (58:57):
Apples to oranges.

Speaker 2 (58:58):
The quarterback situation in the NFL is it's like a
mutated version of the contract negotiations we see everywhere else,
and to be you know, fair to the NBA, like
those contracts have gotten so out of hand, we almost
needed to have a Jalen Brunson like correction where guys
are a little bit more conservative with the amount of
money they're asking for and expecting. I think in the NFL,

(59:21):
because of the short term nature of the sport and
because of Toua's injury concerns and some of the scarier
injuries we've seen, I do not fault him for taking
the anti Brunson here, but I don't know if it
if it's gonna if the shoe's gonna fit here, because
Miami's got a lot of mouse defeed. I think the

(59:41):
Tyreek kill trade, you know, a couple of years ago
was was very eye opening, especially considering the Chiefs gave
him up basically and still in a super Bowl without them.
And then you look at what the Dolphins have been
able to do with Tua, and it's still an incomplete grade, right, Like,
we've seen some good and you we have more context
than this than anyone being a fan. We've seen some good,

(01:00:02):
we've seen some bad. We've seen some Oh no, is
he gonna survive? We haven't been all to one side.
It's been very volatile with that situation. I think two
is probably gonna get paid. But the dollar amount and
how much wiggle room it leaves the Dolphins to do
other things.

Speaker 1 (01:00:22):
I think that's the part that we're unsure of. I
do like the potential new nickname here of Terminator Tua.
Huh oh, yeah, that's what Tyreek Hill said. He's like
the terminator Terminator Tua. I like that. I think this
real fast with Tua is that Look, once you get

(01:00:42):
a reputation, you've got to do something seismic to change it, right,
And that's same thing in life. If you're known as
the cheap guy, you're gonna have to be picking up
the bill left and right for people to say, hey,
what's got into know here? You know, like your reputation
still hasn't come completely changed. But I think for Tua,

(01:01:03):
he's just been labeled injury prone yep, and not a
big game quarterback, right, And I think he's earned those
labels and he hasn't done anything seismic to change that. Now,
the first part of it being upright and healthy. He
played every game last year. That was a major step
towards shedding the injury prone label. We'll see if that

(01:01:27):
continues this season. But as far as the big game stuff,
this is attached to Kirk Cousins as it should be.
It's attached to Tua because he shrunk in big moments
and the playoff lost lost at Kansas City last season
didn't do anything to change that label, so that he's
got to do a lot more to change those labels.
But I think that's why there's this sense of fifty

(01:01:49):
five million dollars a year for Tua. Really like it's
because of those labels that he has earned thus far.

Speaker 2 (01:01:56):
But we I mean, the dollar amount might seem astronomical,
but we have to, you know, kind of keep it
relative not only to inflation, but just in general, the
inflation of the NFL markets for quarterbacks. I do think
we are going down a road where we need a
separate salary cap for quarterbacks.

Speaker 1 (01:02:16):
I think we'll get there eventually.

Speaker 2 (01:02:17):
I think there needs to be some wrinkles ironed out
because it does open up another Pandora's box. But let's
be honest, everything in the NFL is always raising the bar.
We are always and in every sport, frankly in life,
always raising the bar. This bar is getting to a
point where it's almost like in the high jump in

(01:02:38):
the Olympics, like, how's this guy gonna jump over that bar?
And they figure out a way to get there like
that that that little pole just like bends so much
and they just contort their body to figure out a
way to squeeze over the And that's kind of where
we're at with all of these quarterback contracts. It's like,
how are we gonna top that? Well, we just topped it.
How are we gonna to uh, Well, Mom's getting this,

(01:03:00):
Ellen Hurts is getting that, and justin Herbert's getting this,
and it's just it's remarkable the amount of money that
gets spent on these guys and how important the position
has become. It is unlike anything else in all of sports,
the way the quarterback position gets paid, the way they
get treated on the field, protected off the field, the scrutiny,

(01:03:25):
the media, everything like it. It is the warp speed
of sports. It's crazy and I don't know how we
stop it. Like the ball is rolling down the hill
at a ridiculous speed and it's continuing to accelerate and
I don't see it slowing down anytime soon. So it
might sound crazy to give a guy that's barely finished

(01:03:47):
the season, hasn't had a ton of success when you
compare it to the other very successful quarterbacks in the
league to pay him that much money, But it's just
kind of par for the course.

Speaker 1 (01:03:57):
Yeah, I hear you, and I disagree with this same time, Okay,
And this is what I mean by that is this
is just the going rate now where if you look
at the TV money with the NFL, look at what
the NBA just did, seventy six billion dollars one TV
contracts over eleven years, and it's like the players are

(01:04:18):
gonna get their their chunk of that. And so if
you're an upper echelon player, like let's use the Celtics
for example, like Jason Brown, Jason Tatum, Jalen Brown. Those
guys are making three hundred million dollars plus right over
the length of their contract. That's just gonna be the
way it is. The same thing in the NFL. With

(01:04:38):
the TV money and with the money just pouring in,
the salary cap is gonna rise and rise and rise.
And so if you're talking about top quarterbacks or top
NBA players, it's not gonna be that long until we've
got an NBA player making one hundred million dollars per season. Yeah,
how long an you think? Five years? Probably around that time. Yeah.

(01:05:00):
But that's the thing is, with the money growing with
TV dollars, the contracts are going to grow as well,
and they should. Like that's just the way it goes.
So I hear you in terms of like, wow, this
money seems to be getting out of control with this
particular quarterback and what he's going to earn. But I
would argue, with the TV money growing, that's what they're

(01:05:22):
gonna get, right, Like, if you can throw slant patterns
really well, and that's what you're gonna get in the
NFL as well. Man, I'm in the wrong field. Huh. Yeah,
I know.

Speaker 2 (01:05:31):
But also going back to the Brownie James discussion we're
having earlier, Like, I bet if I in the shape
that I'm in now went out there and throwed some
and through some passes without you know, helmet, shoulder pads,
people chasing me, I probably look pretty good too.

Speaker 1 (01:05:44):
Yeah, sure, that's right.

Speaker 2 (01:05:45):
Well, a training camp me and Rich we'll go through
a little training camp before the season starts to make
sure we're up the speed for you, Brian, we want
to make sure we're in tip top shape.

Speaker 1 (01:05:53):
Oh that sounds good. And hey, speaking of tip top shape,
not only with his occupation, Isaaclowe kron is fantastic. What
does elite when you talk about physical specimen? Right like
away from the microphone as well, I low I'm surprised
he's not at the kathlete in the Olympics this year.

(01:06:14):
That's all I'm saying.

Speaker 7 (01:06:15):
I think I will refrain from ruining the image that
Brian has so generously portrayed to America by not relaying
the time that I sprained my wrist by having too
much guacamole on a Chipotle towrtilla chip.

Speaker 1 (01:06:35):
Anyway, Wow, it's impressive act. Yeah, I was out in
the guac.

Speaker 7 (01:06:42):
Right, I still had to pay extra, just like everybody
goes anyway. The Ladies Singles Final at Wimbledon has gone
to a deciding third set. Barbara kray Chicoba of the
Czech Republic dominated the opening set over Jasmine Pallini of
Italy six to two, but at the second pow Lane
returned the favor, winning that set six to two. So

(01:07:04):
they are now again in the deciding third set, with
Paulini leading kray Chikova two sets to one. Excuse me,
two games to one, and the Ladies Singles Final at Wimbledon.
The NBA multiple outlets report Denver rookie first round draft
pick Deron Holmes has suffered a torn right achilles and
is expected to miss the upcoming season in Major League Baseball.

Speaker 3 (01:07:27):
On Friday night, Willie Calhoun did a two.

Speaker 7 (01:07:30):
Run home run of the bottom of the tenth to
give the Angels a six to five win over Seattle
Diamondbacks over the Blue Jays five to four, Arizona's one
nine of thirteen, Atlanta a six to one victory at
San Diego. The Braves at won five of seven finally
fellas In a new episode of the Netflix DOCU series Receivers.
Las Vegas Raiders star wideout DeVante Adams was miked up

(01:07:54):
during a Week eight game last season at Detroit when
Josh McDaniels was still the Raiders head coach and Jimmy
Garoppolo is still the Raiders starting quarterback. Unfortunately, I can't
play it for you because of the profanities. But Adams said,
and I quote, I gotta get the bleep out of
here before I lose my bleeping life. I ain't never

(01:08:18):
been hit this many bleeping times in my career. Every
game I get bleeped up. This is bleeping pathetic. Just
throw the bleeping ball man. Tired of this bleeping bleep
unquote speaking of bleeping bleep now, I'm just kidding, speaking
of the opposite of bleeping bleak.

Speaker 1 (01:08:39):
Back to Brian and Jared, well, thank you, thank you.
I low It is Fox Sports Saturday right here on
Fox Sports Radio. It gets me thinking because we're gonna
go into Tyreek Hill's top five quarterbacks. Yeah, and it
wasn't that long ago that Jimmy G with the Niners. Oh,
he just wins games. Jimmy G is a winner, and
then you put him on the Raiders and then you

(01:09:00):
see what happened. Right, So if you keep that in
mind with brock Purty, because he's put up numbers, he's
had success. But if you put brock perty on say
like the Giants or something like that, the Panthers, he
probably would be putting up the Niner numbers. So with that,
let's get into this Jared. So, Tyreek Hill, he was

(01:09:21):
on Sports Center yesterday and they asked him about his
top five quarterback list that broke the internet recently. Here's
Tyreek Hill's top five list. Mahomes Tua, Lamar Dak Baker,
Mayfield Baker makes a surprise appearance in the top five,

(01:09:42):
and Tyreek explained he was like, if you read my
Twitter bio, it says I enjoy starting stuff and then leaving.
So maybe this is just a troll job. He was like,
one and two they're set in stone with mahomes Intua,
which is questionable and you can do whatever you want
with the So with that being said, what does your

(01:10:04):
top five look like? Good? Quick? Because I don't have
a huge problem like to a top five is questionable.
Baker top five is ridiculous. We know that. The rest
of it. I think he can make sound arguments. So
I think right now, heading into the season, you could
make really good arguments for or against some of these
top guys. What does your top five look like?

Speaker 2 (01:10:24):
It's mahomes and then the rest of it doesn't really matter. Again,
like I think, and I've seen, I've seen people in
our industry put out you know, rankings and power ratings
is all the rage in the gambling world.

Speaker 1 (01:10:38):
Any rating or.

Speaker 2 (01:10:39):
List of quarterbacks that doesn't start with fifteen in red, Yeah,
that's that's a troll job. And I've seen many. I've
seen many, yep, And I don't know why. Maybe it's bias.
The Tyreek Hill thing makes sense. Why would he like
Josh Allen. They played against each other pretty hard when
he was with the Chiefs, and now they're divisi.

Speaker 1 (01:11:00):
Rivals in Buffalo in Miami.

Speaker 2 (01:11:01):
So I have no I have no surprises here that
that that if Tyreek was going to slight someone, it
was going to be Josh Allen. I think Josh Allen
deserves to be in the top five right now. This
is like, this is a tough one because I think
a lot of it is is obviously it's objective, but
what you grade as valuable matters to me. For example,

(01:11:26):
I would put Matthew Stafford in the top five in
terms of active quarterbacks right now. But if part of
your grading process is future, what guys you know has
the best projection for the future. Well, obviously Matthew Stafford's
on the back nine of his career. But you want
to talk about a guy that checks all the boxes. Leader,

(01:11:48):
amazing arm, super Bowl champion, all of those things are there.

Speaker 1 (01:11:53):
But we don't view.

Speaker 2 (01:11:54):
Matthew Stafford as this top five quarterback because we don't
know how much longer he's going to pull and play
at a high level. And I think that's where you
can kind of get into a back and forth about
what is the most important criteria in your top five.
I think if you were just basing it off of
pure arm talent and the ability to play the position

(01:12:17):
at the highest level active right now, I think Mahomes
is one. Oh man, I think I would probably put
Josh Allen two in Burrow three. And that's the only
reason there I put Burrow three and not two is
because of the injury situation.

Speaker 1 (01:12:33):
I just don't know how healthy Joe is right now.

Speaker 2 (01:12:36):
Yeah, I think if Joe is I think if Burrow
is healthy one hundred percent in a vacuum, I think
he's two. I do because I think he has just
a little bit more of that big game quality that
I'm looking for in a quarterback. And I'm not saying
Josh Allen doesn't have that, but I think Joe just
has a little bit more of that moxie. After that,
it really gets tricky. I mean it really does. I

(01:12:57):
think Dak has deserved to be in the conversation, but
then you get that big game.

Speaker 1 (01:13:02):
Vibe that I just don't think he has.

Speaker 2 (01:13:05):
And then you get the young guys, like where do
we put Stroud and Jordan Love Like, I don't think
they're there yet. And then you get the runners, right,
the Hurts, the Lamar's, Like I think because the quarterback
position there's such a vast array of talent, it's hard
to really put these guys in one box. Like Lamar
Jackson and Jalen Hurts are just very different quarterbacks than

(01:13:26):
what Mahomes and Tua does, right, and Josh Allen's kind
of a mix of it all. Burrows maybe the swaggier guy.
Then you got Stafford, who really is frankly the most
decorated of them all besides Mahomes. So it's a really
tough list. I'm fine with anything in the top five
as long as Mahomes is won. That's the only thing
I'll fight youall, all right, Well, you got it, Okay,
here's my top five.

Speaker 1 (01:13:47):
Give it to me. Mahomes, Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, Aaron Rodgers,
Matthew Stafford. It's only for this season. We're not doing
for the next five ten years. Of course, Matthew Stafford
would not be on that list, so it's coincidentally it's
Mahomes and then a rush of white guys. I didn't
plan it out that way. That's just the way it
worked out, okay, because I go down the list and

(01:14:08):
I come up with the reasons why not top five?
Jordan Love CJ. Stroud. They were both really, really good
their first year starting. CJ. Stroud as a rookie doing
what he did outstanding. I just want to see more.
I want to see more than just one season as
a starter. I think that's fair. Then there's some guys
lack of playoff success. Herbert dak two. I just got

(01:14:30):
to see more on the bigger stage. Kirk Right Kirk
is limited, not athletic enough, hurts good at times, inconsistent
at others. Lamar, most overrated player in the entire NFL,
like immensely talented, disappears in the playoffs. Not a precise passer,
never will be. He has one more playoff win than CJ. Stroud.

(01:14:50):
You can have him. I'm not interested. That's where I am.
Some people put Lamar over Josh Allen. That is a
football crime. Okay. If you look at the playoffs, which
is what matters most, Josh Allen has thrown twenty one
touchdown passes in four picks. Lamar has thrown six touchdown
passes in six picks. Like, that's insane. Josh Allen in

(01:15:11):
the playoffs, his passer rating is one hundred. Just for context,
last season, CJ. Stroud's passer rating was one hundred point eight.
They're in the same zip code, they're living on the
same cul de Sac. Right, How great was c J.
Stroud last year? That's what Josh Allen has done passer
rating wise in the playoffs. Lamar seventy five point seven. Yeah,

(01:15:32):
that's his passer rating in the playoffs. That's worse than
Mac Jones passer rating last season. That's one of the
worst passer ratings in football last season. In the regular season,
Lamar does nothing in the playoffs. I can't put him
on my top five. Brock Perty has put up numbers.
I want to see him do that on the Giants
or Panthers. Right the talent around him matters. I can't

(01:15:53):
put him in the top five. So those are the reasons.
Like a lot of the guys I mentioned, they'd be
in the top ten. I just can't sneak him into
the top five right here, right now, I agree with you.
I think your list makes sense.

Speaker 2 (01:16:05):
Again, as long as Mahomes is at the top and
Josh Allen's in the top five, I think you can argue,
all right, well there's this and this, this, you move
this guy here, but it starts and ends with fifteen
and red like that's the only opinion right now that
I have. Just I will die on that hill patch
Mahomes is the best player in the sport.

Speaker 1 (01:16:25):
It's not close. He's won back to back bulls. What
more can he do if you've got I've got him third.
It's like, just I don't want to talk to you,
all right, We've got a bonding experience coming up right
around the corner. Prop it up the prop bet market.
We will compare notes. He's Jared Smith FSR betting analyst.

(01:16:46):
I'm Brian No. Keep it locked right here, Fox Sports
Saturday on Fox Sports Radio. It is Fox Sports Saturday,
right here on Fox Sports Radio. I'm not wasting any time.
Let's get into this.

Speaker 3 (01:17:00):
Prop it up player plays.

Speaker 1 (01:17:03):
Okay, the prop bet market. It is fertile right now.
Huh fertile grounds here? What are you thinking about here?
Jared Well Dallas. Kikel's pitching in Major League Baseball again.

Speaker 2 (01:17:16):
It's been a relatively new development.

Speaker 1 (01:17:19):
He's making his fourth start for the Brewers today.

Speaker 2 (01:17:22):
His first three starts, he barely got into the sixth
inning against the Rockies, who might have one of the
worst lineups in baseball.

Speaker 1 (01:17:30):
Actually, I take that back.

Speaker 2 (01:17:31):
I think there may be slightly better than that, but
they're one oh, I would say bottom tier for sure.
At the Dodgers, didn't get out of the fifth against
the Rangers in his debut, did not get out of
the fifth. His outs prop today is fifteen and a half.
You don't have to be a math major to figure
that one out three outs in an inning fifteen and
a half, says.

Speaker 1 (01:17:48):
Five innings, you still win.

Speaker 2 (01:17:50):
He has to pitch into the sixth and get an
out in the sixth.

Speaker 1 (01:17:55):
In order for this bet to lose. I mean, you
know it's Dallas Kikel go.

Speaker 2 (01:18:00):
I think at some point the wheels are gonna fall
if He's actually pitched pretty well eer wise in his
first few starts, but we haven't seen the length, and
he's coming off with a very hitch heavy outing against
the Dodgers. His season high again, very small sample, just
three starts, but he was only in the seventy seventy
five pitch range.

Speaker 1 (01:18:17):
Those first two starts bumped it up to ninety in
this last start.

Speaker 2 (01:18:21):
We'll see how the old arm bounces back for Dallas
Kaikel against the Nationals today, we're going under fifteen and
a half out.

Speaker 1 (01:18:28):
I like it. I hear what you're saying. I'm gonna
go with the red hot astros here, Okay, I'm gonna
look at potential props with them. So jose Al Toovey
has been the Rangers killer and that's who they have today.
So I'm gonna target out to Vey here. Jared. He's
nursing a sore left hand. He's not gonna play in

(01:18:50):
the All Star Game. There were reports that it's purple right, so,
but he's still doing bad. Was good yesterday against the Rangers.
He's had a lot of success against them. I think
sometimes we get into a same game parlay rut, you know,
and sometimes you're looking for a huge payout. Yeah, when

(01:19:11):
a good payout will do as long as you're cashing tickets.
That's the name of the game, right It's almost like baseball.
You don't have to sweep a series. Just win the series,
win two out of three. Keep doing that and you're
gonna be fine. So I look at that with Jose
al Tuova instead of doing a same game parlay for
him to just score a run today, it's at plus

(01:19:33):
one ten at bet MGM. Okay, i'll take that. Total
bases over one and a half. It's at plus one
thirty five. I'll take that. Also, I don't need to
tie them together and do a same game parlay if
you want to, okay, a little more risk factor, higher payout,
I'm in favor of betting on those separately. They're both

(01:19:54):
plus money. I think one is bound to hit. I
want to be surprised if both of them hit the
amount of success l twove has had against the Rangers.
So I will target both of those in the prop
bet market today. I like it.

Speaker 2 (01:20:07):
And you know, because we've done the parlay platter every
week that we've done this show pretty much, I'm always
trying to.

Speaker 1 (01:20:12):
Find correlated legs.

Speaker 2 (01:20:14):
Now today we went in a different direction with the
with the money lines in separate games. But when you're
doing the same game parlay, for example, if you want,
if you think a team's gonna win, well you can
also throw in that team's team total to go over
because again, if they win the game, odds are they're
gonna go over their team total.

Speaker 1 (01:20:32):
And it's just it's it's the books.

Speaker 2 (01:20:34):
Do let you put those correlated legs, stack them up
together and you get the bigger payout, but in your
case two plus money bets.

Speaker 1 (01:20:41):
I like it. Separate solo dodo, very nice, that's right, exactly,
all right? Coming up next, ball and betting. What's a
better combination than that? Oh, happy Saturday, So you hope
you're doing fantastic today. We will get to ball and
betting in just a minute. We're looking at the most

(01:21:02):
passing yards in the NFL. This season because bet MGM
emailed over some numbers this week. Pretty interesting, pretty interesting stuff.
We are on the doorstep of the ladies Wimbledon final
being decided with krit ch uhr Chikova. Yeah, she's on
the doorstep.

Speaker 2 (01:21:22):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:21:24):
Uh it ain't easy, you know, it's uh yeah, this
has been some horrible tennis today, Jared, I'm sorry this
has been watching bad. I've been watching. I've had like
a half an eye on it.

Speaker 2 (01:21:36):
I saw Polina made a nice comeback there in the
second set, but it looks like she kind of got
broken here right at the right at the death in
set three, which uh k, Chikova's got a championship point
right now.

Speaker 1 (01:21:48):
Oh no, it's back to deuce now, Yeah, back and forth.
This is gonna sound like a total cheap shot. It's
kind of like, uh, the the Lamar Jackson of tennis today,
I would say, is it's just not precise. It's not
precise tennis. And you know, bold ladies are talented. Lamar
is immensely talented. He's just not a precise passer. And

(01:22:13):
it's jarring when you're watching this final and I get
it right, like this is for everything, This is for Wimbledon, Right,
so there are some nerves going on. I totally understand that.
But the amount of mishits and wide shots and it's
just like that was three feet off the line. It's
happened routinely here today.

Speaker 2 (01:22:33):
Yeah, and again it goes down to just the me
Like you could tell Paulini early in the match didn't
have her nerves dropped the first set, got basically swept
right off the floor in the first set, but then
calmed down and really showed herself and she's actually got
a breakpoint to kind of get back in the match here. Again,

(01:22:54):
Kotchikov has got the experience and you're right, like she
just smoked that first serve like five feet past the box. Yeah. Yeah,
it's been it's been like it's been. I guess jittery
is kind of the word I'll use here.

Speaker 1 (01:23:07):
That's a good way to say it. And look, both
have made some beautiful shots at times, but it's the
amount of wide shots and missed shots where it's like, whoa,
it just stands out quite a bit. Okay, So bet MGM.
The numbers on most passing yards this season in the
NFL pretty interesting stuff. So the most bets have been

(01:23:31):
made on CJ. Stroud, stud Texans quarterback. Over fourteen percent
of the total bets have been on CJ. Stroud, now
the most amount of bets, Right like the handle, the
most amount of money has been on Joe Burrow, and
Burrow is fifth in the odds. Burrow is eight to one.

(01:23:52):
The odds leader is Mahomes, He's five to one. So
let's just do the top five in terms of odds
to have the most passing yards this season. It's Mahomes
followed by Stroud, Dak Gough and Joe Burrow. What stands
out to you when you're trying to assess the prop
betting market for most passing yards this season?

Speaker 2 (01:24:13):
I would take this market and I would compare it
to the MVP award. So Patrick Mahomes five to one
to win the MVP at bet MGM five to one
to be the guy with the.

Speaker 1 (01:24:26):
Most passing yards. That makes sense, right. CJ.

Speaker 2 (01:24:28):
Stroud six to one for the most passing yards ten
to one to win MVP. So let's just stop right
there and do that base level analysis.

Speaker 1 (01:24:39):
If CJ.

Speaker 2 (01:24:40):
Stroud has the most passing yards in the NFL, probably
if not going to win the MVP is going to
be highly regarded in doing so, and that number will
come down significantly. So if Stroud is second on the
board to have the most passing yards, but he's fourth
behind Burrow and Allen to win the MVP, well maybe

(01:25:01):
there's some upside with that number. All right, Now let's
get to the next level. You have to sit on
this bet for a long time. Are you willing to
sit on it? For what I would say a very
small window of value?

Speaker 1 (01:25:13):
Right?

Speaker 2 (01:25:13):
Six to one, ten to one. That's not a huge gap.
It's a gap, but it's not like earth shattering Grand
Canyon like to where I'm gonna run to the window
and put my money down immediately. I think when you
go a little bit further down the list, things get interesting, right.

Speaker 1 (01:25:29):
I do, by the way, I do like that visual
of you running to the window. Done it many times.
It's a duffel bag of money, you know.

Speaker 2 (01:25:36):
Sorry, sorry, like Mattress Mac type money right there. I
think Jordan Love is another one that's in line with
the market. Fifteen to one, right, you know, fourteen to
one MVP. Again, we're trying to find discrepancies here because
Josh Allen, who's twenty to one in this market to
have the most passing yards is the second favorite to

(01:25:57):
win MVP.

Speaker 1 (01:25:58):
Now, you could make the.

Speaker 2 (01:26:00):
Case that, all right, he lost a lot of offense, right,
he lost Diggs and Davis about I want to say,
about half of the receiving yards at the build. I
think it was more than half of their touchdowns. But
still it's it's a pretty pass happy quarterback in a
in a in a division that I think, I don't
want to say it's up for grabs, but they're the
favorite in that division. I think that one's intriguing to

(01:26:24):
me because of just how far down he's on the
list compared to how highly regarded he is as a quarterback.

Speaker 1 (01:26:31):
But I think a lot of this stuff is.

Speaker 2 (01:26:32):
You're trying to catch lightning in the bottle at the
bottom of the market, like I think betting your you know,
putting your chips into the middle for a guy at
the top of this market in the middle of July.
It's not gonna move that much between now and and
the start of the season, so I just think you
have time to bet those guys near the top. The
goal right now in the futures market of the NFL

(01:26:55):
is to try to find the miss prices further down
on the board, and I don't know if there is
one here except for one. There's one that intrigues me.
Justin Herbert's thirty to one. And I'm not gonna say
that he's gonna have this amazing season because I don't
know what the vibe is gonna be with the Chargers.

(01:27:15):
Harbaugh might go in there and turn that into the
wing tea. I hope he doesn't, but let's be honest.
He's a little bit of a wildcard. But let's say
it's not that. Let's say Harbaugh has revolutionized his playbook.
I think Justin Herbert, because of the division he plays in,
because of who else is in that division, and because

(01:27:37):
of what they're gonna need to do.

Speaker 1 (01:27:38):
In order to win, he's gonna have to have a
huge year, you know.

Speaker 2 (01:27:42):
So I think that's a guy that's very far like Like,
let's be honest, Like Justin Herbert, I think is like
the twentieth guy on this list. He's not the twentieth
quarterback in the end, like twentieth'st quarterback in the NFL.
I'd put him ahead of a lot of these guys.
Perty Trevor Lawrence Baker, Mayfield, Caleb Williams, Jalen Hurts.

Speaker 1 (01:28:00):
They're on par with Justin Herbert.

Speaker 2 (01:28:01):
Justin Herbert's a better passer than all of those guys,
I think at his core. But it's all about finding
a number that's miss priced. The reason why that number
so low is because of the unknowns of Harbaugh and
the fact that they're probably going to run the ball
and they drafted an offensive lineman and they've got all
these great running back pieces and we just don't know
what Herbert's gonna be. But that's a guy that at
his peak is not like the twentieth quarterback on the list.

Speaker 1 (01:28:23):
He's much higher. No, that's fair. I just think, man,
he just doesn't have a lot of wide receivers talent,
and that's why he's thirty to one. Yeah, and look,
I get it. Just hear me out on this. I
think sometimes what we'll do in the market like this,
when you think if it's MVP or most passing yards

(01:28:44):
or whatever it may be, sometimes you overlook the guys
that are like six to one, seven to one, because
you're like, and I'm not saying you're doing this, trust me.
It just gets me thinking, right, sure, sometimes you look
down and it's like, ooh, twenty five to one, ooh,
thirty to what that that's bigger bang from my buck
over here. But all I'm saying is, if you, let's

(01:29:05):
say you put a parlay together today, like, forget about
the MVP the most passing yards, forget about that market.
Let's just say you put a baseball parlay today. You'll
take a six to one hit all day. Right, six
to one is really good. So all I'm saying is,
don't overlook the guys in the market of most passing
yards because they're five to one, six to one, and

(01:29:28):
those are like the least odds, like the lowest odds
to win. Yeah, that's still a good payday. You don't
have to chase fifteen to one twenty to one just
because it just like makes your eyes bug out more.
You'll take a six to one win all day. It
shouldn't be any different in the most passing yards market.

(01:29:48):
And that's where a guy like CJ. Stroud is appealing.
C J. Strouds for over forty one hundred yards last
season and he missed two games, Jared, he was concussed. Again.
It's the Jets, and so he played fifteen games, and
so imagine if he plays a full season. He was
about five hundred and change less than two of last year.

(01:30:14):
So if he plays two more games, do you think
he throws for five hundred yards in two games? Most
likely he does, right, So yeah, I think Stroud at
six to one is an intriguing one to circle. And
I think a guy like Matthew Stafford at twelve to
one a little bit lower on this list just under
four thousand yards passing last season, played fifteen games, but
with Pooka Cooper Cup, if he's healthy, Matthew Stafford could

(01:30:38):
have a big year as well.

Speaker 2 (01:30:40):
Of the guys in the top eleven last year, Stafford
was eleventh and Stroud was eighth. Of the quarterbacks in
the top eleven, those are the only two that are
in the top eleven that played fifteen games.

Speaker 1 (01:30:53):
Everyone else in the top eleven.

Speaker 2 (01:30:54):
Played either sixteen or the full allotment of seventeen, no surprise.

Speaker 1 (01:30:59):
And this is this is how you should look at
this market.

Speaker 2 (01:31:01):
First, the guys in the top four all played seventeen games.
You weren't within three hundred yards of the number one
guy too. If you didn't play the full allotment of games.
So that should be the question you ask yourself, which
quarterback on this list? Am my most confident plays all

(01:31:21):
seventeen games. Yeah, I don't think Stafford's on that list,
and that's the one knock on him. You're right, and
I don't think two is on that list either. I
think Stroud makes a ton of sense. And if you
want to use the reverse psychology approach, right, we talked about, well,
if you're gonna bet CJ. Stroud to have the most
passing yards in the NFL, you might as well instead

(01:31:43):
of betting a six to one that he's going to
lead the league in yards, you might as well just
bet the ten to one to win MVP. That's fair
and I'm fine with that. The flip side to that is.

Speaker 1 (01:31:54):
Wow, so Stroud's ten to one to.

Speaker 2 (01:31:56):
Win MVP, the fourth guy on the list, but the
passing yards market shading him significantly higher. Where he's the
second guy on the list and he's only six to one.
It's kind of the market telling you that CJ. Stroud's
probably got a pretty decent shot to lead this league
in passing yards this year. And then, oh, by the way,

(01:32:17):
you know, bringing in Stefan Diggs. I thought that was
a really intriguing bet. Stefon Diggs to win Offensive Player
of the Year is like seventy to one.

Speaker 3 (01:32:28):
Wow.

Speaker 2 (01:32:29):
And if you think about it, it's sixty to one, sorry, sixty.

Speaker 1 (01:32:32):
To one at betmgim.

Speaker 2 (01:32:33):
And if you think about it, go back and look
at Diggs's best year with the Bills.

Speaker 1 (01:32:39):
It was his first this year, it was.

Speaker 2 (01:32:41):
Right out of the gate, We're gonna make magic. And
Diggs was, you know, barguably an MVP guy that first
year with the Bills. That was here the Bills losto
the Chiefs and the crazy it was at seven second
eight second kickoff, you know that wild age the championship game.

Speaker 1 (01:32:55):
Like that was as close as the Bills.

Speaker 2 (01:32:57):
Came to making it to the Promised Land. And it
was all sunshine and rainbows for Stefan's first year, well,
this is his first year in Houston. Wouldn't be shocked
if he has a big season.

Speaker 1 (01:33:08):
Oh interesting. Two things that stand out with the most
passing yards market sixty six to one Lamar Jackson. Yeah,
don't bet that, don't bet it, But there are twenty
one quarterbacks that have better odds than Lamar Jackson to
have the most passing yards this season. That's like, Wow.

Speaker 2 (01:33:29):
Do you think when we go back and look at
his MVP this year, will we'll reassess how we feel
about that award.

Speaker 1 (01:33:35):
I think you recent well, I look at Lamar and
I think you just have to evaluate Lamar differently because
he's a different kind of quarterback. He's not this and
it's fine. He's not this prototypical at least old school
wise drop back quarterbacks stand in the pocket, throw darts.
He's not that guy. He makes it work. He is

(01:33:57):
an athletic specimen and he is a special playmaker. He's
just not precise in terms of a passer, and that
really shows up come playoff time. And I think it
shows up in terms of like the Ravens their whole style.
They run the ball, Lamar does his thing. They're not
gonna pass for gaudy numbers. It's still is stunning to

(01:34:18):
see him at sixty six to one. Caleb Williams Bears
rookie quarterback, He's thirty to one. Don't bet on him either, guys,
I know, but Lamar is sixty six to one, is
a two time MVP veteran and Caleb Williams has half
the odds and then some to throw for more yards
than Lamar. It's just stunning what the market is telling

(01:34:39):
you With Lamar. I'm actually surprised.

Speaker 2 (01:34:43):
That he is that far down because again, if the
goal is to play just seventeen games, and like that's
the goal, like, I guess, let's look at yeah, he
only played sixty What was the game that he missed? Like,
I guess they benched him maybe the last game when
they already I forget what the yeah it is the
I think, yeah, yeah, that's right that he didn't play
the final week and he was a thousand yards shy

(01:35:05):
of Tua and he played sixteen out of seventeen games.
I mean even Jalen Hurts, who I don't think is
gonna win this award, you know, had a better passing
season too. It's just this is one of those markets.
It's not my favorite market to bet pre flop. I
am willing to sacrifice. When I say pre flop, I

(01:35:26):
mean before the season starts. I am willing to sacrifice
a little bit of juice just to get a somewhat
sense of what the vibe is for these guys, Like
it could be a very interesting scenario with Stroud, Like
like like Stroud could I could see Stroud going wire
to wire in this market.

Speaker 1 (01:35:44):
I really could.

Speaker 2 (01:35:46):
And that's why I think he's being priced so aggressively
next to Mahomes.

Speaker 1 (01:35:49):
I think it's an unforgiving market because, like you laid out,
the top guys played all seventeen games, So think about
most passing yards compared to the MVP mart We just
talked about Lamar. He didn't play Week eighteen. He didn't
play the last game of the season because they had
their spot locked up. And it's like that didn't screw
him in the MVP chase he wanted. That could screw

(01:36:12):
your bet completely up if you have that guy to
pass for the most yards and he's resting in week
eighteen or whatever. But like Stroud, he had a concussion,
he missed a couple of games. You're done. You're not
that quarterback is not leading the league in passing yards
if he misses two games. I can promise you that.

Speaker 2 (01:36:31):
Yeah, so a team award like it's been the best,
it's been like number one seed.

Speaker 1 (01:36:36):
That quarterback gets the award like that, yeah, and we're
not like, oh, well, he did miss two games. Right.
We don't look at it like that, but bro, if
you miss two games, you're not passing for the most yards,
So you gotta know that going in. Yeah, it's unforgiving
for sure. All Right, We've got Jared Smith FSR betting analyst.
I'm Brian No coming up next another day, another record

(01:36:59):
will explain. It's fun Sports Saturday right here on Fox
Sports Radio. It is Fox Sports Saturday, right here on
Fox Sports Radio. Shout out, Barbara kry Chiekova, You're Wimbledon
Women's champion. She gets it done. Little drama at the
end of that third set right there, looked like she
might get broken and we'd have some real drama. But

(01:37:21):
she held serve and won the final set, won the match,
won the tournament. Shout out to her, thirty one seed,
and she wins Wimbledon. Our eighth different champion in the
last eight years at Wimbledon. On the ladies' side, it's cool.
She ran into the stands, bear hugged her whole family.
It was cool man. Good for me.

Speaker 2 (01:37:42):
It's awesome to see because a guy have a friend again.
I told you that has been in the professional tennis circuit.
Her name's Jamie lob shout out. She's not listening.

Speaker 1 (01:37:49):
She's probably working out right now.

Speaker 2 (01:37:51):
She was the national champion at UNC back in her
collegiate days and it made it on a professional circuit.

Speaker 1 (01:37:56):
We've been friends for years. It's a struggle.

Speaker 2 (01:38:00):
Tennis is an absolute war of attrition. These men and
these women. They travel all over the world. A lot
of it on the lower tiers is on their own dime.
And when you win, it's all you, right. I know,
the coach and the trainer and all that stuff is
part of it, but it's it's it's all you out there.
And to see the reactions. I love seeing the reactions

(01:38:22):
to the major championships from from these tennis players like
it is, it's truly a sight to be whold good
for Barbara Barbara kraychikovat yeah, Barbora, my bad.

Speaker 1 (01:38:34):
Yeah, I just learned crite Chikova and I'm screwing up.
These names are tough. His names are tough. Bky, good job,
bk Uh. You know what stands out to me is
there are some sports where it's just obvious, where if
you're trying to hit a pall schemes, fastball, you know
what I mean? If you're in the batter's box, what

(01:38:56):
that feels like and how hard that would be to
do or whatever you're trying to tackle Derrick Henry. There's
some things that are just obvious, but especially with tennis,
if you're trying to just return a serve of some
of these players or the precision like you're ready for
you know this, this like screaming shot down the line.

(01:39:19):
If you're facing al Karaz and he just with precision
the drop shot, it's like you gotta sprint all the
way to the net to just try to touch the ball.
The skill that some of these tennis players have, it's astounding,
and I don't think it stands out to you as
much what it would be like to just have a
shot to just try what it feels like. Let me

(01:39:41):
just try to return this serve from insert the tennis
player here. Good luck, you know what I mean? Good
luck with the precision on net tour. What do you
think the hardest thing to do is?

Speaker 2 (01:39:50):
So I always tell people the hardest thing to do
in sports is to hit a baseball that's coming at
you ninety five miles an hour, round ball, round bat.
Like to me, the giom of that and the physics
of that is the hardest thing to do in sports.
I think a close second is to hit a golf ball,
not only long and straight, but the way that these

(01:40:10):
professional golfers can shape the ball. I think that is
the second hardest thing to do in sports. Maybe third
is returning a serve Like I I've never been in
that scenario, Like I faced the ninety mile an hour fastball.

Speaker 1 (01:40:23):
I know what that looks like. Trust me, it's hard.
The golfing thing. I've been playing golf for years, it's hard.

Speaker 2 (01:40:28):
I've never played tennis, so I can't really speak to
it contextually, but I would imagine that's probably in the
top five.

Speaker 1 (01:40:35):
Yeah, it like the the skill it takes to do
that consistently. Yeah, most people say it's it's hitting a baseball.
I would agree with that. You're changing speeds, like the
amount of movement. Look at these sweeper pitches now in baseball,
Like you're ready for the ninety nine mile per hour
fastball and you get hit with the sweeper or the

(01:40:56):
off speed pitch.

Speaker 2 (01:40:57):
Good lock spleen schemes is he has a we have splink,
the splitter sinker. They're coming up with their games for pitches. Now, yeah,
you got the splinker, the sweeper, the slider, the cutter,
the change. I mean, you're right, it's it's it's unbelievable
how good these guys are at bait.

Speaker 1 (01:41:14):
I can't.

Speaker 2 (01:41:15):
I don't know what I would do. Like one hundred,
I thought ninety I was shaking in my boots. This
was back in high school. Ninety, I was shaking in
my boots. One hundred, one hundred and five. I just
to me, it's, hands down, hitting a baseball is the
hardest thing you do in sports, period.

Speaker 1 (01:41:29):
In a store, I I agree. I think it's a
little bit of a different argument because when you get
into these physical sports, you know, like like football, they're boxing, MMA,
what have you, the skill is required and then just
the physical demand depending on your position. If you're talking about, hey,

(01:41:51):
I'm a I'm a defensive tackle in the NFL or
what you know what I mean, Like, it's not just
getting through a season. The greats they last for seasons
like ten plus years oftentimes. That the demand for that
and how physically demanding it is to do that, I

(01:42:12):
don't know how they do it. I really don't. And
we're talking about going to an eighteenth game and just
adding and adding the physical demands are insane.

Speaker 2 (01:42:20):
With some of these sports, I'll put a separate category. Right,
there's skill and then there's will. I think skill hitting
a baseball, there you go, golf ball, right, returning it
kind of serve consistently will. I think what you're referring
to running backs in the NFL getting absolutely crushed and
then going right back to the huddle and taking the

(01:42:42):
ball again and going through the motions like that to me, like,
obviously there's athletic skill involved there, but I think it's more.

Speaker 1 (01:42:49):
About will than it is skill at that point. Yeah, No,
it's well said. I like that, And I think the
will impacting the skill is interesting too. Right, if you
think of taking NFL quarterback, all that is asked of
you before you throw the ball. You've got to recite
a play that's like nine miles long, right, Like the

(01:43:11):
mental side of it, and knowing where everyone's supposed to be,
reading a defense, making the proper decision, and then delivering
a ball with this tiny little window. Well, angry men
that are really physical and really strong are trying to
take your head off and oftentimes are able to legally

(01:43:35):
hit you where you're seeing things sideway, you know what
I mean. So I think that, like the skill, it's
one thing to make this throw, it's another thing to
do it with all that other stuff added on top
of it.

Speaker 2 (01:43:48):
Yeah, I'm glad that I'm in a nice cushy, you know,
studio right now on a microphone and when my dog
to sleep on the count, I don't have to deal
with that today.

Speaker 1 (01:43:58):
I just got to.

Speaker 2 (01:43:58):
Bet on it and screen at the TV when these
guys don't do what I think they're gonna do.

Speaker 1 (01:44:03):
Yeah, there you go. That's right. Yeah, that's one thing
to keep in mind betting wise, you know where it's
like the walk off Homer for the Angels last night. Yeah,
the first thing I think of what the Mariner's picture is, Dude,
you're gonna hang a pitch in the middle of the plate.
What are you doing? And it's like, yeah, it's not
the easiest thing to have pinpoint location, right, We're talking

(01:44:25):
about fractions of fractions where your arm slot or whatever,
like your release, and it's just like this much difference
and that would have been a swinging strike. You know.
It's something to keep in mind when your bet goes sideways.
I lost the nerfy last night in San Francisco. Bottom
of the first, nobody out. Jorgese Laire hit like a

(01:44:47):
kind of a twisting line drive to right field that
was slicing towards the line YEP. And Matt Wallner, the
right fielder who was just inserted into the game right
before first pitch, like thirty minutes before first pitch. Miranda
the a y of the better hitters on the Twins,
got scratched. They had to redo the lineup, so Walner
gets put into right field.

Speaker 2 (01:45:09):
First inning, first batter of the game, Jerez Hilaire right
to Walner. He kind of I don't want to say
he misplayed it. He just didn't get there in time.
And instead of like one hopping it and keeping the
ball in front of him, he just dived at it,
missed it, and the ball goes all the way to
right field. Celaire ends up at thirty scores on a
sack fly. The next two guys strikeout, strikeout, So if

(01:45:31):
it was just a single, we would have hit the nurfy.
And I'm just thinking to myself, Matt Walner, you bum
and It's like, yeah, like if I was out there,
the ball probably would have rotted around in the corner
and I would have done like a tumble salt trying
to get there. But yeah, I mean that's their professionals.

Speaker 1 (01:45:46):
Yeah. Every now and then it's legit right where it's like, bro,
just keep the ball in front of you. What are
you doing right now? You know that sort of thing.
So it does happen every now and then. Someone who
keeps the ball in front of him all the time
would be Isaac Low and crime okay. And if he
dives for the ball, best believe he catches the ball.
He's got the latest for us. I love what's going on.

Speaker 7 (01:46:08):
Bud right you are Brian Grace personify?

Speaker 1 (01:46:11):
Oh how deletes that from the podcast Theatrix. We will.

Speaker 7 (01:46:19):
Not be deleting the action from Wimbledon because the Ladies
Singles final today came down to the deciding.

Speaker 1 (01:46:26):
Third Setkiva has a third championship point? Is this the one?
She serves? Big out wide? The returns coming back long.
Borikova is the Wimbledon champion.

Speaker 7 (01:46:45):
Some British guy with a call on Wimbledon Radio as
I'm just kidding, his name's Rich Connolly on Wimbledon Radio
has crey Chikova defeated Italy's Jasmine Paalini six six sixty
four in the NBA Multiple Outlak Report. Denver rookie first
round draft pick dron Holmes suffered a torn ride achilles
and is expected to miss the coming season. ESPN reported

(01:47:08):
Veterans center Taj Gibson has agreed to a one year,
three million dollar deal with the Charlotte Hornets in Major
League Baseball. On Friday night, Willie Calhoun hit a two
run home run in the bottom of the tenth inning
to give the Angels a six to five win over
the Seattle Mariners. Diamondbacks over the Blue Jays five to four.
Arizona has won nine of thirteen. The Braves with a

(01:47:30):
six to one victory at San Diego. Atlanta has won
five of its last seven. Brian and Jared, all yours,
thank you, I Lo.

Speaker 1 (01:47:40):
It is Fox Sports Saturday, right here on Fox Sports Radio.
So sometimes the betting market is your friend. We talked
about this with the Wimbledon final. Krite Chikova. She was
favorite to win. She was the thirty one seed, favorite
to beat the seventh seed. It's like, huh, that kind
of stinks, right, and she ended up winning. So sometimes

(01:48:03):
the betting market can can be your guide. It can
tell you things if you read between the lines. I
bring this up because of the WNBA Rookie of the
Year chase. All Right, so if you look at Caitlin Clark,
she set another record last night, so the Fever they
won against the Phoenix Mercury, Caitlin Clark tied a record

(01:48:26):
with seven assists in the first quarter alone, like, tied
to WNBA record. She's a daisy fresh rookie. Right. She
also has in the last five games ninety six points
and sixty two assists. So Caitlyn is the first WNBA
player to have at least ninety points and sixty assists
in any five game span, and the combined two hundred

(01:48:48):
and thirty two points and assists that's the most in
that span in WNBA history. That's the thing. She's a rookie.
She's doing things that have never been done in the
history of that league. And so there's you've been some
talk about Rookie of the Year. Juju Watkins star at
USC she weighed in this week and she's like, I
think it's Angel Reese. She's playing great basketball. Okay, that's fine,

(01:49:10):
but if you look at the betting market, Jared. If
you see this on betmgm odds to win WNBA Rookie
of the Year, Caitlin Clark is minus one thousand. Angel
Reese is plus five hundred. Just to put that in perspective,
if you bet one hundred dollars on Caitlin Clark to
win Rookie of the Year, you would get ten dollars.

(01:49:32):
You would win ten bucks. If you put those same
one hundred dollars on Angel Reese to win Rookie of
the Year, you would win five hundred dollars. Okay, Like
not even close. So you can think Angel Reese is
the is the Rookie of the year. You can say
she should be. That's fine. If that's your opinion, great,
have at it. She's not going to be, okay, and

(01:49:53):
the betting market tells you that it would take something seismic,
like I don't know, uh jury, Yeah, Clark getting the
Tanya Harding led pipe treatment, you know what I.

Speaker 2 (01:50:05):
Mean, Like that's what it would take, Like I don't
even want to put that in the universe.

Speaker 1 (01:50:10):
Yeah, right, But if she's upright, she's a winning Rookie
of the Year. And that's what the betting market tells you.
So I think that's something to keep in mind that
can be a guide for you when you're talking about
stuff you might not even be betting, but it's something
that can give you a lot of context if you
just check it out. I agree, we're about halfway through
the year.

Speaker 2 (01:50:28):
We'll go the Olympic break soon, and then you know
it's we're seeing pretty much the market, I would say,
crystallize itself pretty substantially.

Speaker 1 (01:50:38):
For example, the MVP market in the WNBA.

Speaker 2 (01:50:40):
I mean, Asia Wilson's even a bigger favorite, yeah to
win MVP. So again, at this stage of the season,
it's rare that the market gets something like this very wrong,
and for someone like Asia Wilson, who's minus sixteen hundred
to win MVP, in order for that to be right,
like like, let's just put that in percentage perspective, because

(01:51:02):
I know minus sixteen hundred sounds like this crazy number.

Speaker 1 (01:51:06):
That's a ninety four percent in plytots.

Speaker 2 (01:51:08):
So the sportsbook is telling you in ninety four almost
ninety five percent of scenarios.

Speaker 1 (01:51:16):
They think Asia Wilson is going to be the MVP.

Speaker 2 (01:51:18):
Let's put that in the Caitlin Clark market minus one
thousand odds is basically saying ninety one percent. The sports
book is ninety one percent sure based off of, you know,
the money that's come in and what they have assessed
that Caitlin Clark is going to be the Rookie of
the Year. Now does that leave the door open?

Speaker 1 (01:51:39):
Sure it does.

Speaker 2 (01:51:41):
But to your point, it has to be some kind
of alter ego scenario, injury, or just a ridiculous turn
of events, like just unheralded, unprecedented turn of events for
someone at this stage of the season to be this
big of a favorite and for that person not to
win that award. So I think this market because of

(01:52:05):
the I guess I'll call it sensitivity surrounding these two players.

Speaker 1 (01:52:12):
This is the closest thing we have to politics in sports,
the award.

Speaker 2 (01:52:16):
Markets, because you're not handicapping the players as much as
you're handicapping the voters. The voters are the ones who
determine the award. So what And I say this all
the time because we talk about the awards markets, not
only on this show, but every gambling show. I talked
about this on Bernie Freders show last night on this network.
We were talking about this exact same thing. This is
the closest thing we have to politics. Democrat, Republican, Caitlyn Clark,

(01:52:40):
Angel rees. But your opinion on those two players is
completely irrelevant.

Speaker 1 (01:52:46):
What do the voters think?

Speaker 2 (01:52:48):
Well, the market's telling you that the voters are pretty
one sided here, and I would be surprised if it's
not Caitlin Clark winning this award.

Speaker 1 (01:52:56):
Yeah, unless Caitlin Clark is going Nancy here again and
going why why after you know, the lead pipe to
the knee, She's winning Rookie of the Year in the WNBA.
That's just that's what the market is telling you. And
Angel Reese has played well think about this too. She's
in the middle of this historic stretch of double doubles

(01:53:20):
where it's the most ever in WNBA history, was it
fourteen or fifteen in counting. She's had points and rebounds
at least double digits for that long and she's still
that massive of an underdog to win Rookie of the Year.
It's like that streak is gonna end at some point.
It might end today and then what like, what's the

(01:53:41):
resume looking like at that point? So that's an eye
opener as well. This is in the midst of a
huge streak and she's still that big of an underdog
to win the award. Angel Reese is. So that should
tell you quite a bit, right there is and again
you don't have to beat, but using that the betting

(01:54:02):
market as a guide, you can absolutely tell you a
lot for sure. All Right. He's Jared Smith FSR, betting analyst.
I'm Brian No. Coming up next rapid fire. Richest picks
have already been made by We'll share them with you
and we'll share our own as well. That's around the corner.
It is Fox Sports Saturday. Right here on Fox Sports Radio.

(01:54:23):
It is Fox Sports Radio. He's Jared Smith. I'm Brian No.
Shout out to Rich Oh today, you know, missing but
still in our hearts. Let's say that, Jared right, always
Penn State in our hearts forever. That's one of the
things they say, and it's a part of the I
think it's the Alma mater some one of those songs

(01:54:44):
I sing before the games. Yeah, shout out to our crew.
Outstanding job as always, Bo Benson, trusted producer, Chris Purfett,
technical producer, extraordinary. Let me know about I'm and Ross
Saint Brown's father on the Netflix show John Brown. Yeah,
John Brown saying drink coke during the game. Don't drink gatorade.

(01:55:05):
Drink coke, Yeah, he says, because it's got energy. It's
got energy, so it's better than gatorade. That's an interesting perspective.
I wonder what the scientists and the well I don't know.

Speaker 6 (01:55:14):
I mean, scientists might say about that. Scientists will and
dieticians will say something different. But he is a two
time mister Universe. So who am I to wow myself? Yeah,
you should go look up pictures of John Brown when
he was like bodybuilding.

Speaker 2 (01:55:27):
Yeah, I can't argue with mister Universe two times back
to back er you just you.

Speaker 6 (01:55:32):
I'll have to go dig that. I just know it's
a two time mister Universe offending.

Speaker 1 (01:55:36):
Your mister Universe, Crown. I mean, that's like Holmes in
the Super Bowl back and uh Isaac Low and Crown
of course crushing the updates, crushing life, top of the Hour,
up on game, LeVar Arrington, t J. Hushman, Zada, They've
got you more than covered. Hey, before we dive into
the picks, just real fast. Paul Schemes named National League

(01:55:56):
All Star Game starting picture he is. He's been electric.
This dude has been a strikeout machine. It's great for
baseball that he's gonna start. You read the fine Brinton. Yeah,
it's like Chris Saale is starting tomorrow for the Braves.
He's not available. Zach Wheeler scratched from a start. But
Paul Skeens has been electric. He is absolutely deserving and

(01:56:18):
it's a big deal for the All Star Game. That
is a reason to tune in initially. So it makes
sense all across the board for him to be the starts.

Speaker 2 (01:56:26):
The first time Baseball's gotten something right in this regard
when they open the season in Korea in the middle
of March madness. It just it just it feels like
they just keep getting these you know, layups wrong, and
this one they got right.

Speaker 1 (01:56:39):
Chris, you have something real quick.

Speaker 6 (01:56:40):
Yes, So our crack team of experts got back to
me here at Fox Sports Radio. John Brown, father of
aman Ross, Saint Brown, and Equanimy of Saint Brown. In
the NFL, he was a two time Amateur Mister Universe
back to back years eighty two, I mean eighty one
and eighty two, and he's a three time Mister World.

Speaker 1 (01:56:58):
Okay, there you go, well, not quite universe that world. Yeah,
all kind of beat him out from mister Universe that
one year. I guess the key, No, no, no, it was twice. Yeah,
maybe it was Puka Nakua's father. I don't know. I
got some picks to make. Let's dive into this.

Speaker 3 (01:57:17):
Rapid fire.

Speaker 1 (01:57:19):
Okay, Jared, we start with you. What are you thinking?

Speaker 2 (01:57:21):
Well, I gotta get out of this slump because one
in five the last two weeks ain't gonna cut it, guys.
But still thirty two and twenty eight since the Super Bowl.
So if you bet every tick, you're still slightly up
the juice depending. But let's go away from the nerfey
today because Saturday is like chaos in baseball. How about
this since June first, Actually, the yur fee the yes
run first inning is sixty percent on Saturdays. It's a

(01:57:42):
five days sample, right, five Saturdays, basically in the last
month plus.

Speaker 1 (01:57:47):
But we're going away from the nerfey today. For our pick.
We're gonna go your feet in the early game the
Dodgers game.

Speaker 2 (01:57:54):
Tigers and Dodgers, very mediocre pitching matchup here. Justin Robleski,
who's just called up one start to go. We actually
did go nurfy in that first start, and cater Montero,
very young pitcher for the Tigers, just making his fourth
career start today. I think the Dodgers get an early one,
but if not, Tigers have actually been pretty sneaky good
in the first inning this year, some good pieces.

Speaker 1 (01:58:12):
At the top of that lineup.

Speaker 2 (01:58:13):
So we'll go, yes, run first inning Tiger's Dodgers. Now
let's completely switch gears. We'll go across the pond here.
Carlos Alkaaz Tomorrow is about a minus one forty five favorite,
right on the threshold of where we kind of give
out our picks here on the show. But it's in
that it's inside that range, so I feel comfortable giving
out Carlos Alcarez to win tomorrow. Of course, last year,

(01:58:34):
who could forget the five set thriller between these two.
I think Jokovic was very fortunate in the semifinal, got
a breeze through the quarters, his opponent retired, so we
got extra rest. Well, now he's on short rest for
the final. Alcaraz is better. I think he wins, and
then finally you can get this simultaneously. I don't know
if the matches are going to be going on at
the same time, but in the same time region tomorrow

(01:58:56):
morning the Euro Final Spain in England. I'm going both
teams to score. It's even odds. You might be able
to get plus money somewhere else. But to me, both
of these teams have just been scoring machines. BTTs has
hit in every match these two teams have played in
the knockout stage six matches for Spain and England, both

(01:59:16):
teams have scored in all six of those. So it's
gonna happen again in the final tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (01:59:20):
Man, you got your feed, BTTs, I love it.

Speaker 2 (01:59:23):
Let's go great for tennis and baseball, Baby Riches picks.

Speaker 1 (01:59:28):
He's got the Orioles busting out of the offensive slumpier
in a big way against the Yankees. He's got the
Orioles minus one and a half. He's got the Braves
minus one and a half against his Padres, and he
also has the Braves Padres over seven and a half.
Lopez picking for the Braves, I don't know he's been

(01:59:49):
a Lopez Dylan sees today. Okay for me, Jared, here's
what I'm thinking. We're double dipping with the Astros they've
been on fire. I'm going with Jose Ltuve to score
at least one run. That's at plus money plus one ten.
I've got over eight and a half runs for the
game Rangers and Astros. Astros offense has been really, really good,

(02:00:10):
and Spencer eric Getty is on the mound. I think
the Rangers score some runs. I'm gonna take over eight
and a half and I'm going tennis like you in
a little bit of a different way. Jared, looking at
al Karaz and Djokovic in the final, give me total
games on bet MGM. You can get it at forty
and a half at minus one thirty five. I like
the over there. You need to get at least four sets.

(02:00:33):
I can't see anyone winning in straight sets, and if
you get to a fifth set year, you're definitely winning
that one, so probably gonna get a seven to sixth tiebreaker.
I'm gonna take over forty and a half. Enjoy your day,
