Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Brian Thowen for Anthony Gargano
and the Fellas. I was just kidding around with Chris
technical producer extraordinary. I'm like, is that your Twitter handled now?
Is it Chris the Fella? I think that's exactly what
it should be. Yeah, I'll have to change my display
mane right now. I'll go for it. Yeah, you should
absolutely should It should be uh, Nikki be the fella.
(00:24):
It should be k Fig the fella. You know. I
think we're in the day and age of being pushy here,
especially with the vaccine right right now, we get like,
what do we have to pushy over here? With uh?
I think with Twitter handles, I think I can be
pushy when it comes to that. I think that should
be everybody's Twitter handle. You know, we'll see if they
(00:47):
take my advice or not. I am not holding my
breath on that one. But let's start with ball over here.
You know, something near and dear to my heart. Ball
the NFL the regular season Week one right around the corner,
and we got a taste not quite the dress rehearsal,
but they're ramping up a couple of games into this
week of the preseason teams are ramping up, how much
(01:10):
time starters are getting. Patrick Mahomes got thirty three snaps
last night as the Chiefs beat the Arizona Cardinals. Now,
the final score doesn't matter. We all know that it's
all about what the ones do against the ones. That's
the true indication of who's doing what right now. Subject
(01:31):
to change obviously in the NFL, but that's where it
stands right now. And the Arizona Cardinals, Wait, what is it?
The Richard Sherman dropped poop fest. That's what it was
last night for the Arizona Cardinals. If you missed the game, yeah,
I'll bring you up to speed on the Arizona Cardinals.
So their offense, they didn't gain a first down, no
(01:54):
first downs, oh for three. There were three drives, not
a first down to be had, three and out, three
and out, three and out, not an aerial onslaught by
Kyler Murray. He was sacked twice in the first quarter.
And while Kyler Murray was in the game, the Cardinals
(02:15):
were minus one in yardage, minus one in yardage. Not great. Now, Listen,
I'm not gonna go crazy over here. It's the preseason.
This isn't weak one, but it gives us a bit
of a glimpse as to where the Arizona Cardinals are.
And if you look at the NFC West, it is
an absolute gauntlet. That's the toughest division in football. Easily
(02:40):
ask yourself who's the last place team in that division?
It might be the Arizona Cardinals. That's not a bad
last place team. There are many other divisions. Look at
the a f C South. They have the Jags and
the Texans. The Arizona Cardinals might have more wins the
(03:00):
both the Jags and Texans combined. So you can find
some really wretched, less placed teams in many divisions in
the NFL. But the NFC West, if the Cardinals Cardinals
are in last, I mean they're pretty good team. You
bring in J. J. Watt, You've got DeAndre Hopkins and
A J. Green to throw too. That's one of the
(03:22):
more interesting under the radar storylines in my eyes, what
does a J. Green do with the Arizona Cardinals this year?
Because he has been an absolute beast with the Cincinnati Bengals.
Now he slowed down the last couple of seasons big time.
Lots of injuries, you know, the situation with a J Green,
(03:44):
but change of scenery. Does he find the fountain of
youth over there in Arizona'm very curious to find that out.
Not a huge fan of Arizona's offensive line. They retooled
it a little bit, bringing Rodney Hudson from k Figs.
The rate is right, that is at k fig the
fella if you want to find him on Twitter, I'm guessing.
(04:06):
I don't know if he's changed it on the fly,
but I search for it. Maybe he has. I'm not sure,
But with the Arizona Cardinals not exactly firing on all cylinders.
But here's the other part of it. I would rather
teams played their starters more in the preseason and work
out the kinks right, work out the bad stuff. I
(04:29):
would rather Kyler Murray is oh for three in terms
of first downs on drives, right, they had three drives,
no first downs at all. I would rather they struggled
like that in week two of the preseason instead of
week one of the regular season. So count me in
(04:49):
for starters seeing more time. I know there's it's worrisome
with the injury bug, but who panics when it comes
to practice? Who panics when it comes to joint practices, nobody,
but for some reason there's just mass panic with many
NFL teams when it comes to players actually getting on
the field in the preseason. It's weird to me. It's
(05:11):
just one of those other staffs to take when you're
ramping up toward Week one. So I don't cower in
fear when it comes to players getting on the field
ones versus ones in the preseason. Goodness, look at Patrick Mahomes.
Patrick Mahomes is, in my eyes, the best quarterback in football.
This sounds like a goofy way to uh to illustrate
(05:34):
my point, but he's the only quarterback that got a
ninety nine rating in Madden. You might look like, where's Carcano?
Good lord, who is this guy? But Mahomes better things
to point to Super Bowl m v P, m v
P of the regular season before he was twenty five
years old. Only player in the history of the league
(05:55):
to do that. So that that that would make more sense.
But the here and now add two shout out get it.
You know, Mahomes the only guy with the ninety nine rating,
followed by Brady Rogers. You know the situation. Patrick Mahomes
is an absolute beast. He's on the field for thirty
three plays. I caught a clip of Baker Mayfield and
(06:18):
he was half joking, half kidding around where He's like, yeah,
they said if I get into a fight, I have
to play. He's trying to get some playing time in
the preseason, so he's like, yeah, I might start a
fight so I can get on the field. Baker Mayfield
and the Browns face the Chiefs in Week one, so
(06:40):
Mahomes is getting thirty three snaps last night. I'm curious
how many snaps Baker Mayfield gets. He sat all last week.
Why Why isn't he getting a little bit of playing time?
Some of these guys. Sam Donald didn't see the field
with the Panthers. He started playing new team completely. He
(07:02):
hasn't arrived yet, right, It's not like Sam Donald is
approven quarterback and he's getting scarce playing time in the preseason.
I don't get it at all. Daniel Jones with the
Giants didn't see the field last week. Weird, But you
look at Patrick Mahomes, the best quarterback in football is
getting thirty three snaps. That should tell you all you
need to know. Right there. I'm Brian no In for
(07:23):
Anthony Gargano and the fellows here on Fox Sports Radio.
We'll get to Larry Fitzgerald here in a minute. But well,
I'm talking about the Chiefs. You know, there's not a
whole lot of sexy offensive line talk on the sports
radio airwaves. And it doesn't I get it doesn't quite
move the needle, but for a minute, it needs to
(07:45):
be mentioned. This is probably the most underrated part of
the Chiefs team right now is the Chiefs revamped offensive line.
I like what I'm seeing out of them. You had
a couple of rookies starting last night. You have old
Creed Humphrey right there from Oklahoma. He's going to be
the center. I love that draft pick, second rounder. You
(08:09):
also have Tray Smith sixth round pick. He was projected
to be a first rounder way way way way back
before the draft occurred, and he ends up going in
the sixth round. But he was starting on the old line.
But it's rebuilt, it's retooled, it's re vamped. It's anything
that starts with three that is a good adjective. I
like how they're looking. And you know, the story in
(08:30):
the Super Bowl against Tom Brady and Tampa Bay Mahomes
was running for his life, was running for his life,
pressured twenty nine times in that game, a Super Bowl record.
And so the Chiefs they're not screwing around. They bring
in Joe Tuney, very good guard from the Patriots, and
they also brought in Orlando Brown traded for both of
(08:52):
those players. Orlando Brown coming over from the Ravens. You're
gonna look at the Chiefs and they're certainly gonna be
able to protect Mahomes this season. A very deep offensive line.
You've got some of these dudes. Is Kyle Long coming
off the bench? You know, is Duvernei Tardif, who was
a COVID opt out last season, is he coming off
(09:14):
the bench. That is a deep offensive line. Man. So
they're gonna be able to protect Mahomes very well. And
I think they're gonna be able to run the ball
effectively enough where they're going to be a nightmare for
defenses this year. That blend of what Mahomes in the
passing game can do to soften up how many players
(09:36):
you're not gonna see, like nine men in the box,
eight guys in the box. You're not gonna see that.
So it's gonna soften that up for the running game,
I think the Chiefs are gonna be an absolute nightmare
to deal with when they have the ball. And then
again goes back to my other point. You think that
Baker Mayfield and the Browns are gonna have to score
(09:56):
a few points against the Chiefs in Week one? Yeah,
I think they are. So I would like to see,
if you're a Browns fan, I'd like to see the
Browns offense establish some chemistry, get into a little bit
of a rhythm, kind of ramp up toward Week one
instead of, oh gosh, we haven't gotten much playing time
in preseason at all. Well, let's just try to hit
(10:18):
the ground running against the Chiefs. Screw it, you know,
like that's that a good plan, a good plan at all.
But there are a lot of teams that are in
that mindset. It's crazy to me, by the way, I'll
be throwing out a lot of opinions today, and uh,
I feel like, before we go any further, I think
it's good to establish some common ground, you know, because
(10:40):
we're gonna see things differently. I'm gonna see things one way,
you're gonna disagree and see it another. Totally fine, But
I do like some solidarity, you know, I like some
things that were just all on the same page about
I'm thinking this might be it. I don't want another
alert on my phone about any of the three following people,
(11:04):
Britney Spears, Ben Affleck or j Lo. Can I get
an amen? I don't want to see one more thing
about that. I don't want an alert. Brittney spears dogs
taken away. She blames Jamie. I that's a real thing.
I looked at my phone and I'm like, what, what, why? Why?
What about it's going on here? If it's Yahoo News,
(11:28):
if it's TMZ. If when I look at my phone
and see anything relating to Ben j Lo or Brittney Spears,
I'm surprised. I haven't Gronk spiked my phone at this point.
And I know, I know there's a reason why they
keep on coming out, because the suckers keep eating it up.
They can't get enough. But I'm I'm on the other side.
(11:50):
I will be totally fine in life if I don't
get another alert regarding Ben j Lo or britt You know, Okay,
I feel like we've a stad what's the solidarity now?
We can disagree and yell at each other, but I
feel like that needed to be solidified before we go
any further. Alright, plenty to get to eight seven, seven,
(12:10):
nine nine on Fox is your phone number? Don't let
me just yak away here. We'll get the fellas in
here right At Chris the Fella on Twitter, that's your

a little bit too far. That's renaissance man. You know.

Slash Yes, Nielsen report limitations apply. Now. I think of
two things here real fast, Chris, shout out to you,
technical producer. Good call with slipknot out of the gate.
You're out of the gate? Strong, yeah, very strong. I
think of two people when I hear slip not now
(13:42):
now that song in particular, psycho social Um. I think
of Gavin Kinsell, who is a producer for US at
Fox Sports Radio. He's producing Gottleib Show now right, but departed.
He's gone. He left, He's gone. Yeah, when did that happen?
(14:04):
Like about a month ago? We gotta keep up here.
Holy cow. You know what's funny. He didn't tell you.
He was tell me a thing. I'm sending him this
audio immediately. I'm sending him this audio. How dare he
was in Hawaii? I thought he just took a week
off or something like that. I didn't know he was gone. No,
they're already training the new producer on god Leep good lord. Yeah,
(14:29):
he just started a new game of words with friends
with me. We play we play words with friends like
he hed. Okay, let me backtrack a little bit here.
So Gavin and I we had like a two or
three games going at once, and you would think us,
being the degenerates we are, we're gambling on these games.
(14:50):
Note to self, maybe broach that topic with Gavin going forward.
I don't know, but anyway, we had two or three
games going and then he just dropped off the grid.
It'd be like, hey, Gavin hasn't played a word in
fourteen days. Your game's about today. And so all these
games ended, and so I jokingly texted him and I
was like, hey, play a word you read bastard or
(15:13):
something like that. You know me, I'm a very nice guy,
very cordial guy. And uh He's like, oh sorry, man,
I'm in Hawaii. And I'm like, all right, cool man,
no worries. I just felt like it's destroying my life
or anything. But I just figured that he was working
like crazy, and then he was on vacation with his girl,
and I'm like, okay, no problem, turns down with the
(15:36):
company anymore. Had no idea, good lord, you think you
know a guy you know? Let me I'll go around
the room here real fast. K Fig, my guy, if
you leave Fox Sports Radio, am I gonna get a text?
Or you just gonna drop off the grid. I started
a segment. I'm like, you know, I think of two people,
Ka Fig who's working his fingers to the bone here
(15:58):
at Fox Sports Radio, and this is gonna jump on
and be like, hey left a month ago. Now, I
think i'd at least drop you a d M and
let you know, hey, pleasure working with you. Hopefully we'll
connect at some point in the future. But yeah, I
don't know. I can just sneak out of the back
door by the way, Gavin and tell me either. I
found out through other means that he was leaving and
I saw him maybe his second to last shift here.
(16:22):
If I just went back in time and just tracking
through my mind, didn't say a word, spoke to him
for about three four minutes, said nothing. Wow, hey man,
you know, handling his business. I guess I up a
grudging guy moving up doing your thing. It's all good.
But yeah, oh yeah, yeah people, Yeah, I can you
know what, I can relate in a way if it's
(16:45):
until it's a done deal, I just keep my mouth shut.
But once it's a done deal, and I don't know
his timeline, then yeah, I would dap up everybody pretty much.
You know, Yeah, Nikki b Am, I gonna get a
text from you if you just leave Fox Sports Radio?
You know? Am I gonna get that? If I will
do the solid if if if I do leave, I will.
(17:07):
I will let you let you know. Are you gonna
do me the solid of knowing that we're working together
the next time? Are we gonna Are we gonna do that?
Like if there's Phil in thing or no? Yeah? Maybe, okay, alright, alright,
I'm skeptical if you're gonna leave Fox Sports Radio, if
I'm gonna get a text, you know, I don't know.
I don't know if that's gonna happen. All right, let
me dive into this and I'll bring it back to
(17:29):
the crew here. So, uh, Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys quarterback
Mike McCarthy, the head coach, says that Dak, while he's
nursing that shoulder injury, he's gonna be more active in practice.
You're gonna see more reps, get more playing time. They're
trying to get him back to full strength. Here. Now
here's the deal with Dak Prescott. There are two ways
(17:52):
to look at a situation right now. You could be
class half full guy Mr and Mrs Positivity, or you
could be class half empty person. So if you're making
the glass half full argument, as we ramp up to
Week one, you could say, well, Dak Prescott has missed
(18:15):
some training camp reps and some preseason games. Big deal, right,
You just downplay it. You'd say things like has he
forgotten how to play football? Probably not. He's surrounded by
a lot of talent offensively. The Cowboys, they don't have
great expectations now they might have great expectations for themselves.
(18:38):
Mike McCarthy is talking about winning a Super Bowl, but
I'm talking about the outside looking at the Cowboys. I'm
talking about just anticipating who does what this year. Do
you hear a lot of people say, oh, Cowboys, look
out NFC Championship game At a minimum, I haven't heard
(18:58):
anybody just talking up the Cowboys like crazy, just expecting
great success. They're coming off a six and ten season,
and I know Dak missed most of the season, But
when you're six and ten and don't win the cesspool
that was the NFC East last year, there's less pressure
heading into this season. They aren't the sexy super Bowl team.
(19:23):
They're not being picked by a lot of the people
out there talking heads fans, so that there aren't great
expectations for the Cowboys. So you could look at that
as being a benefit for Dak Prescott. Now I wouldn't
make that argument. I'm just saying that is the glass
half full argument, the MR or MRS positivity argument. I
(19:44):
would go glass half empty. I think that Dak Prescott
is in a terrible position, and I'll tell you why.
They're handful of reasons. First off, he played five games
last season. He hasn't been on the football fee old
getting reps routinely for the better part of a year,
(20:07):
only playing five games, and now nursing the shoulder injury
and missing practices and wraps and preseason games. And I
think that's a big deal when you're trying to get
your timing back, when you're trying to establish chemistry and
you know, just hit the ground running in Week one
(20:28):
and all. By the way, who are they trying to
hit the ground running against. Oh, it's the defending champion
Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In case you missed the headline, the
Cowboys are at Tampa in Week one on Thursday night,
standalone game, first game of the season to kick off
the entire year. Right, and if you haven't heard, Tampa
(20:53):
has brought back every starter for two so they win
the Super Bowl last see reason bringing the team on back, right,
keeping the band together. So that's an issue. And also
on top of this, the reason why I think that
missing reps in training camp is a big deal. Dad
(21:14):
has to be able to trust his body. Again, anybody
coming off of major injury will tell you it. It's
a process. It's one of those. If it's a knee injury,
if it's like he had this compound fracture, like this
major ankle injury, You've got to be able to trust
your body. Can I make this cut? Can I drop
(21:34):
back and plant and then move and shift? And it
takes a little bit of time to be able to
be like, oh, okay, I can do this now, I
can fully trust my body. And Dad he can't trust
his body when it comes to his ankle injury. When
he's nursing a new injury, the shoulder deal that's preventing
him from being on the practice field or on the
(21:57):
field for preseason games. So I think all of these
things are working against Dak Prescott. And when you look
at Tampa's defense compared to the Cowboys defense, the Cowboys
defense sucks way more than Tampa's. Tampa's got a good defense.
Dallas his defense is nowhere near Tampa Bay's defense. So
(22:20):
how does this affect Dac. We's got less margin for error.
He's gotta be a lot better then Tom Brady needs
to be to be able to win that game in
Week one. So if you do the math and you
just project where this thing is headed, have a little
bit of foresight here. If Dak loses and also doesn't
(22:47):
play very well, which is quite possible, what will people say?
What's the fallout? What's the reaction? That's not worth the
money back? They gave him this big contract. I've been
saying time and time again, don't do it. You got
a skip elsewhere on that roster. They're paying him elite
money and he's just good, bad idea by the Cowboys.
(23:08):
You're gonna hear that a lot. If the Cowboys losing
Week one and Dad doesn't play very well, you might
hear that. Even if Dak plays pretty well, he still
might hear that. If the Cowboys lose that game, and
then also think about this when it comes to perspective
and reputation. Once we start viewing things from a certain perspective,
(23:36):
Let's say again the Cowboys lose, that doesn't play well.
The perspective is that isn't worth that contract. The Cowboys
screwed up by paying him. It takes a lot to
change that perspective. It's almost like we're heading down a
road and we're just heading down a highway, like this
is the perspective we have. Doc isn't worth the money.
(23:57):
We're just driving down that highway. It takes a lot
for us to be like, you know what, I'm gonna
exit this highway. I'm gonna take the streets. It might
be faster, it does. It takes a lot. So that's
why I think D's in a terrible position. I think
the deck is stacked against him with him being out
due to injury, facing Tampa Bay, facing a top defense,
(24:19):
one of the better defenses in football, and the fallout
if he doesn't play well. I think he's in a
terrible spot right now. But your comments more than welcome.
Eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox is your phone
number if you want to get on in here. Getting
on in here right now is our guy k Fig
to spin us around the sporting landscape. What's going on?
K Fig? All right? Ran will start in Major League Baseball,
(24:42):
where the Giants lead in the National League West down
to one and a half games after San Francisco lost
to Oakland for to one on Friday night, and the
Dodgers beat the Mets three to two. Walker Bueler seven
and two thirds innings, allowing those two runs, striking out eight.
Philly's defeating the Padres fours at three as Bryce Harper
hit his twenty three home run of the season. Luke
Voit with a home run for the Yankees in a
ten to two victory. That's eighth straight wins for New York.
(25:05):
Max Freed with a complete game shutout as Atlanta defeated
Baltimore three nothing. That's sixteen consecutive losses for the Orioles.
The White Sox over the Raids for the third win
in their last four games. Wins for Boston, Houston, and Cincinnati,
who got home run number twenty eight for Joey Vado
and his seventeenth since the All Star break. In preseason football,
Patrick Mahomes, as you mentioned a little bit earlier, played
(25:25):
a couple of series for Kansas City ten of eighteen
seventy eight yards and interception as Kansas City defeated Arizona,
who gave Kyler Murray his first action of the preseason.
He was just one of four for two yards. Elsewhere,
Washington beat the Bengals Ryan Fitzpatrick seven of thirteen for
nineties six yards in four offensive series. Back to Brian No,
you know, I was just thinking about this, Kate fig
(25:47):
when you were saying that about Kyler Murray, where it
was a good nugget. That was his first preseason action.
So do you think that that being his first preseason
preseason action had a little bit to do with how
badly Arizona was offensively? Because I do, and I would
put that. I would build off that thought and say,
(26:08):
these teams that aren't playing their starters much at all
or at all, that's what you could see in Week one.
You could see something similar to what Kyler Murray and
the Arizona Cardinals offense did against the Chiefs, where they
had three series and they didn't gain it first down.
Especially when you have new pieces, you know, you talk
about Rodney Huts in a new center. You know, it's
(26:29):
it's it's a different you know, it's thing there for them.
And also I've heard this in the last couple of years.
It's become more of the norm of starters not playing
in the preseason. Well, they'll they'll get their legs onder
him after the first couple of weeks of the regular season.
It's like, you can't afford to give games away. What
are you talking about here. This is not a one
and sixty two game baseball season. He got seventeen to
these games. Now, you know one of those can set
(26:52):
you back big time. One game makes a huge difference.
You can't afford to give games away. So I agree
with you. At least give the starters a little bit
of run in the first half, give them a couple
of series in a game or two. I've never agree
with this notion of certain positions. Maybe if there's a
veteran running back was eight years in or something I understand,
but not something as important as a quarterback position when
(27:13):
timing is an issue. Uh, facing different opponents, different looks,
I think all of that is vitally important. Yeah, no,
I'm with you, man, totally with you, And I also
think that it's preseason intensity, that's the thing. Like J J.
Watt didn't even play last night. There are gonna be
some teams where their defenses aren't at full strength. They're
(27:33):
gonna be resting some of their guys, So your quarterback
is at less risk to get injured, like Patrick Mahomes
was that less risk to get injured last night with J. J.
Watt not on the field. So this idea that, oh
my gosh, if he gets hurt and there goes our season,
I just think that that's not the end of the sentence.
(27:54):
I don't think there's that's all there is to consider.
It's what if you look really rusty come Week one,
and to k Figs point, you're the Arizona Cardinals. You're
in this gauntlet of a division. The Cardinals start off
with the Titans on the road. Let's say that offense
looks bad and they kick that game. All of a sudden,
you're oh and one and you haven't played a divisional
(28:15):
game yet in the NFC West. That's not a good
spot to be in. So yeah, I am for more
playing time for these quarterbacks in most situations, right, it's
case by case Aaron Rodgers hasn't gotten playing time in
the preseason. Okay, fine, he's the reigning m v P.
He's gonna be just fine. I don't think he's just
(28:36):
gonna be rusty and he's horrible in Week one. I
don't think that's gonna be the case. But if it's
Daniel Jones with the Giants, it's Sam Donald who hasn't
proven himself in the NFL on a new team and
he doesn't see the field last week. It's amazing to me.
I'm watching the Panthers and Colts last week and it's like,
oh yeah, Sam Donald's not playing today. What's amaze thing
(29:00):
to me. But that's where we are. How about this too,
While we're talking Arizona Cardinals. Got very heavy Arizona Cardinals
first hour here. But this is an interesting story. It
goes beyond the Arizona Cardinals potentially because wide receiver Larry
Fitzgerald he addressed his NFL future with Jim Gray. He's
over there on Mad Dog Radio. So here's what Fits
(29:24):
had to say about if he's retired or not. So, Larry,
are you going to be a radio broadcaster or will
you be back out on the football field for now,
I would be a radio broadcaster. To be honest with you,
I just don't I just don't have the urge to
play right now. I don't know how I fill in September, October, November,
moving forward. But I just said, I just I just
don't have the urge, all right, just don't have the
(29:46):
urge right now. But well, you know, come talk to
me September October. So Jim Gray asked to follow up.
He's like, Uh, if someone were to say Larry just
doesn't want to go through training camp right now, what
would be your reaction to that? And Larry said, hey, listen, man,
if anybody says they look forward to training camp, they
(30:06):
are lying to you. They're just lying through their teeth.
So I don't know. He might lace him back up
for one more season. He's thirty seven years old now,
he's coming off the worst year of his career, only
fifty four catches for four hundred nine yards and a touchdown.
That was in thirteen games. So he could retire as
(30:30):
a Cardinal that's the only team he's played for, or
he could come back and maybe lace him up for
another team if he's trying to make a run for
a Super Bowl doesn't necessarily mean it's got to be
for one team only, So kind of curious where it
goes from here. But as of right now, he's like, yeah,
(30:50):
no real urge at this stage to play ball, But
talk to me in October maybe maybe then. I think
that Larry Fitzgerald that is just one of those dudes.
He's so skilled, and he just seems like he's gonna
be in shape when he's sixty two years old. You know,
it seems like Larry Fitzgerald would do something where you're like,
how are you able to do that at that age?
(31:11):
Are you serious? You just you completed a triathlon? Yeah,
you know, I was bored. I just, you know, want
to see if I could swim miles and then run
for thirteen and bike and it just seems like that
kind of guy. So yeah, I think that Larry Fitzgerald
could skip training camp and could help an NFL team
out that to the point where he's vintage Larry Fitzgerald,
(31:32):
but to the point where he's better than a lot
of other second, third, fourth options in the league. Absolutely absolutely,
So we'll see, we'll see if he's done yet or not.
But as of right now, he's not an itching to
get back onto an NFL field right now, at least
a training camp NFL field. We'll put it that way. Alright,
(31:52):
plenty to get to. I'm excited about this next topic here.
It uh, it is not a goat conversation. I'm not
gonna do that to you, but it involves a goat
comparison that I will guarantee you'll enjoy. I'm gonna guarantee it.
That's a very few guarantees in sports radio. Right. Sometimes
(32:14):
the audience keeps me guessing. I'm like, oh, they't like
this story. They didn't, and then they're not gonna care
for this. They do, they do so every now and
then you keep me guessing. But I am going to
make a guarantee that you will like this goat comparison.
I'm not even making it. Somebody else did it. I'll
fill you in. I'm Brian though In for Anthony Gargano.
This is Fox Sports Radio, Brian no In for Anthony
(32:36):
Gargano and the fellas here on Fox Sports Radio. Now,
a quick little perusing of Twitter right now, what's trending
just blowing up is c M punk. That's right, returned
(32:56):
after seven years away from pro wrestling. Last night, the
A e W crowd went nuts in Chicago. Very cool intro, right,
he comes out to Cult of Personality, great song. That
song will never get old by Living Color. That is
an all time great shout out Vernon Reid with an
outstanding guitar solo in that song. But you know, in
(33:20):
true pro wrestling fashion, you don't come out after seven
years away and just kind of mosey to the ring
and like, hey guys, nice to be back. Like you
yuck it up pretty good, right, And so that's what
see him Punk did. He was like kneeling down half
the song plays and all that. But I bring this
up because he channeled his inner Michael Jordan's. That's right,
(33:46):
a goat comparison over here. There was a press release,
I love this. This is fantastic. You might know where
it's headed already, but it just says this from A
E W. It says Chicago, Illinois, August. The following statement
was released today by CM Punk in response to his
(34:07):
career in Future Plans quote I'm back end quote. That's it,
just like MJ I love that. Of course, the iconic
press release when Jordan's announced his return to the bulls.
That's what ce M Punk did in Chicago. It's pretty cool.
I like that. Now. I'm not completely in touch with
(34:29):
the wrestling game, but I definitely don't bang on pro wrestling.
I've liked pro wrestling throughout the years. I was way
more in touch. You might roll your eyes at me,
but I loved the n w O days. Oh they
were fantastic, great great times. By the way. Actually, random
story here. I didn't know I was gonna go down
this road, but here we are. I went to a
(34:51):
wrestling show in Chicago way back when, and it was
it was wcw Right and this shows you how old
it was. Diamond Dallas Page was going through the crowd.
That's what he did at the time. That was kind
of his his deal. He'd go through the through the crowd,
(35:12):
and and DDP comes right by us, and uh, we
had one of those throwaway Kodak cameras and we took
a picture as he was running through the crowd, and
we're like, did we get it? Did we get it?
We don't, like, isn't that insane to think about? That's
what it was back then. I couldn't even tell you
the year I have no idea, but a long time ago,
(35:34):
I don't know, like late nineties, early two thousands. I
couldn't tell you for sure. I'm not positive, but yeah,
we sure enough, we we got the picture. Like d DPS.
It looked like he was going to remember like Reggie
White with the club move. It's probably a dated reference,
but Reggie White, great defensive lineman. He would just take
his right arm and club just literally knock over an
(35:59):
offensive line men like an old ligneman that waited three
fifteen pounds, just look like a rag doll. Like with
this horrid Kodak camera, it looked like DDP was about
to do the Reggie White club move on one of
my friends. It was an awesome picture, but yeah, it was.
It seems like it was the Stone age. It's like
(36:21):
we didn't have colored television at that time, when we
had throwaway cameras. It sounds ridiculous, but that's where we were.
But anyway, in the same arena, See Him Punk comes back. Now.
One other layer to this is, uh, there were some
tweets around fans were in tears. They were in tears
with the return of See Him Punk. Now here's my
(36:44):
question is that embarrassing. If you're out catching some wrestling
and I don't see him, punk comes back and you're
just moved emotionally, and and they catch you all of
a sudden, you're a meme and you're in tears. You're like,
oh my gosh, see a punk's back, and you're I
don't know, thirty five years of age. Uh listen, I
(37:07):
would vote yes, I would vote yes. That's embarrassing. But
but but but one thing you gotta keep in mind.
You never know why someone's emotional about something you know
that's important. It's important to keep that in mind. So
if any of these dudes that were crying with the
return of CM Punk that were in their thirties or
(37:27):
forties or who knows, that could have been a connection
with pro wrestling, with their father or with their son,
or you never know someone's situation. I remember there was
a girl I was dating in Portland shout out to
I won't give her last name, her nickname was with
her last name, but shout out Katie. I'll just say that.
(37:49):
And she was like, yeah, I was at a super
Bowl party and there were grown men crying. It's embarrassing.
If I remember telling her I was like, okay, but
you never know why. You never know if someone had
I don't know, they lost their dad and they're watching
the Super Bowl and they wanted to see the Chiefs
(38:09):
win a super Bowl together. You never know. You have
no idea why. So I would throw that out there
like first glance, thirty eight year old man crying with
the return of See Him Punk. Yeah, yeah, it seems embarrassing,
but you don't know why exactly those emotions were moved,
so it might be understandable. I have been understandable food
(38:29):
for thought. Now, I don't know if the crew, if
they're wrestling fans at all. Chris, you, uh, you're pretty eclectic.
I don't know if wrestling is highbrow enough for you.
But do you get down with pro wrestling at all?
I mean, I'm from the Midwest. I kind of have
to be into pro wrestling. Uh. Yeah, it goes up
and down. I've I've done a couple of pieces on
pro wrestling. I think the interesting part to this story
(38:51):
is once again, just a w is just kicking the
tail out of w w E right now? What a crowd? Yeah,
it's I just I taught with everyone I talked who
is still into wrestling. A lot of my friends back
home like It's night and days like w W will
keep having that cultural cah a and all but a.
W has got the right mix of guys who just
(39:13):
couldn't cut it in the w W for whatever reason,
Vince McMahon or other. You know, you just look at
you know, Cody and or just some of these indie
darlings like Kenny Omega and even the old timers like
Chris Jericho. They vacuumed up everyone. They've got the right
mix adding see them punked to it. Who has feuded
with w W has been fantastic. They've I mean, they've
(39:36):
got the excitement on their side. Not now, by the way,
I've got to follow up questions. First off, you said
you're from the Midwest, so you you pretty much have
to Is that the hot bed for pro wrestling? The Midwest? Yeah,
I'd say it's Midwest and Southeast those are kind of
the traditional areas for it. You know, California has their
style of pro wrestling coming up. But it's been you know,
(39:59):
you talk about w C WWW e F. It was
from the Midwest and it was the South interesting and
you've done pieces like what in depth research on pro wrestling.
What are these pieces? Yeah, I'm my senior, my master's
thesis at USC Actually I did it on kids training
(40:19):
as pro wrestlers. It's really southern California. Yeah, what was
your grade? I passed. I graduated. That's good enough. You
know what? My new favorite thing is talking to Chris
at the end of the hour as he's trying to
count me down and he's like, all right, coming up next?
(40:41):

(41:46):
there you don't. When Vince Lombardi gave the famous quote
what the hell is going on out here? That quote
applies to this next story. So we seem to be
all set for the College Football Alliance that's right between
(42:07):
the Big ten, A, c C and Pack twelve. The
conferences are expected to make a formal announcement about their
alignment as early as next week. We get alliance announcements
and here's the thing. Um, they're gonna chart a path forward,
(42:30):
but we don't exactly know how what's going on here?
And I thought this was just beautiful. An athletic director said,
is that about philosophy, governance, scheduling? It could be all
those things. It's like, wow, awesome clarity, Thank you. We
(42:56):
have an a D Like could it be scheduling? Maybe?
Could it be philosophy? Yeah? Maybe that too? Like really
what is that? Now? This is the beautiful part? It
gets even better. So several athletic directors from each league
and the three commissioners. They're going to hold a phone
call soon and they're going to determine the specific language
(43:20):
of this formal announcement, like, all right, we formed this alliance,
Now how do we tell the public what it is?
And this is the other part. There could be dissension,
little dissension among the conferences. So one of the reasons
to form an alliance is the matchups could create a
(43:44):
lot of TV money. If you've got these big time
nonconference games between I don't know, say Clemson in Ohio States,
or if Oregon takes on uh and State or you
know whatever, right like, you could have some high profile
matchups and that could lead to a lot of lucrative
(44:08):
TV deals. But here's the catch. There may not be
agreement among all the schools on how best to execute that.
So there might not even be agreements within teams in
the same conference. They might have different philosophies. So take
(44:31):
for instance, the A C C. They play some SEC schools.
There are some annual rivalries and there was actually one
A c C athletic director that said, no one is
tearing up future scheduling contracts yet now just let that
sink in. You have these three Power five conferences they're
(44:55):
expected to formally announce this alliance. The Big Ten, the
a c C, the Pack twelve. They're announcing this alliance.
What exactly it looks like? We're waiting to find out
and if it has a lot to do with scheduling,
which we're anticipating it does. There's some dissension, there's disagreement.
(45:22):
You might have a team in the a CEC that says, well,
we play an SEC team yearly. We don't want that
to stop. Well that that's not great for the alliances
to seem like there's solidarity with this so called alliance.
This is basically what it boils down to. These three conferences,
(45:44):
the Big Ten, the a c C, in the Pack twelve.
They want to say screw the SEC. That's what they
want to say, but it's difficult to do that. There
are advantages to not just completely ghosting the SEC. There
are some teams that you've heard of before, alright, like
(46:06):
high profile teams. If we're talking about lucrative TV matchups, Wow,
thumbing your nose up at the SEC that can come
back to bite you as well. It reminds me of Listen,
if you've had a girlfriend, whatever your partner has been,
someone has had this happened down the road at some
(46:29):
time in your dating career. It's happened where in the
moment you're like it's over, and then you cool down
a little bit and you're like, but do I really
want it to be over with this person? You know?
That's how I feel these Power five conferences are acting
the Big tend a CEC, the Pack twelve. They're saying
it's all for SEC, We're done, and then they cooled
(46:51):
down a little bit and they're like, oh man, this
so we're not playing the SEC at all? Is that
what we're doing here? That's that that great? That's not
exactly or we one of these I don't know, man,
I think it sounds cooler than it's actually going to be.
We formed it alliance? All right? Cool? What what does
(47:12):
that exactly mean? And are you actually in ways screwing
yourself by what completely distancing yourself from the SEC? And
also consider this the PAC twelve they play eight conference games,
and you have the Big Ten in the PAC twelve
(47:34):
they play nine conference games, So how does that work
if that's still not aligned. If we're just scheduling each
other in the non conference. There's a lot to be
worked out with this, a lot to be worked out
with it. It sounds cooler than I believe it is
right now, and I think it sounds cooler than it
eventually will be. But we'll wait to find out after
(47:58):
these dudes get on the phone and like, Hey, what
should we tell people that this is exactly Like, I'm
curious how this is going to work. I think it's
just a reaction to Oklahoma and Texas going to the SEC.
I know that's the case, and they just want to
do something that seems cool and protects their best interest,
(48:23):
But I don't know that this is it. And also
the other part of it is forming an alliance. In essence,
they're trying to prevent their teams from going elsewhere. They
don't want a team to I don't know, get seduced
by the Big Twelve. Let's just say this is just
throwing it out there. They don't want to get have
(48:44):
a team seduced by the Big Twelve or any other
conference out there and leave, So this alliance is going
to prevent that from happening. Am I supposed to believe
that the strength of the alliance is that strong where
there's a even one of these conferences and they get
wooed by another conference. You know, another conference rolls out
(49:07):
the red carpet and says, hey, you could benefit this way,
you can make this much money. Huh about it? They're
gonna say, I'd like to, but I'm already in a
committed relationship. I'm in an alliance. Is that gonna be
the way it goes? I don't know. I I don't
know that that's gonna be the case. But that's the story.
(49:27):
We will have a formal announcement soon, maybe as early
as next week for the alliance between the Big ten
a CC in PAC twelve. Stay tuned on that brobably
no win for Anthony Gargano here on Fox Sports Radio. Now,
if we uh stay in the PAC twelve for a
(49:48):
second ore Agon, they're going to be requiring vaccination proof
if you want to go see the Ducks in action,
want to see some college ball, well, either have to
have a proof of a vaccination or a negative COVID
nineteen test to attend games. Now, I think it makes sense.
(50:11):
I won't go down this road too far BECU people
are dug in. Anybody who's like I'm anti vax, I'm
probably not gonna change your mind, you know. I wish
I could, because your decision is not a personal choice,
it's a public choice. You're affecting the public on that.
But I'm for teams that we're seeing the rates. They're
(50:35):
not saying, hey, vaccination proof or a negative COVID test.
They're saying, no, no, no no vaccination proof. You gotta be
vaccinated if you want to go see the rates in
Vegas in person. I totally back that, absolutely do. And
they're even taking it a step further, like we'll do it.
We'll have if you want to go see the Raiders,
(50:57):
we'll have it set up right outside the stadium where
you can get vaccinated and boom and you go go Raiders. Right.
I love that. I have no problem with that whatsoever.
Some people have an issue with it. I don't. It's like,
good lord, did, Like what are you pointing to to
support your argument that not getting vaccinated in bulk is working?
(51:22):
Like what are you pointing to? Uh? You're just trying to,
like I don't know, uh, put out the flames, Like, ah,
these hospitals aren't really that packed, and you're just what
are you talking? But what are you pointing to to say, oh,
not getting vaccinated is working? What is it? There isn't
(51:43):
an argument. I'm tired of hearing it. Some of the
arguments are just brain dead. So I totally support the
Raiders who are saying, no, you gotta get vaccinated to
walk in. I support Oregon who's saying either vaccinated or
at least a negative COVID test. I think it's a
smart approach. Now my question is how long is it
(52:03):
gonna take to enter some of these games? Like really,
I think it's a legitimate question. How is that going
to play out? Exactly? Are you showing your your vaccination
card at the gate while you're about to walk in?
Are you showing your negative COVID test? I mean imagine
(52:24):
if I mean, some people don't get the memo. Remember
when the NFL went to all clear, you'd have a
like a specific bag to walk in with. There were
I went to a game. Quick story here, I went
to a game. It was a now the Washington football team.
I went to a Lions Washington game, we'll call it
(52:45):
that years ago. And this was at the beginning of
the all clear policy, and there were people who we didn't.
We just forgot. I remember tucking something into my cargo shorts.
I went with my friend Glory, and I thought, I
like stuffed her purse and my cargo shorts or something
like that. But there were people legitimately stuffing purses into shrubs.
(53:10):
They're just sticking their stuff into shrubs. They're like, hopefully
it'll be here when we exit the game. I'm not
going all the way back to the car. It's half
my old way or whatever. But the point is not
everybody got the memo. I'm an NFL junkie, and maybe
you got the memo and just forgot. But anyway, how
many people, if you're to show vaccination proof or a
(53:34):
negative COVID test, how many people show up to the
game with their ticket and they're like, I'm ready to
go in and someone's like, hey, show me your vaccine
card or show me the negative COVID test And they're like, oh,
I don't. I don't have that. It's like, well you
can't come in. What I And it's this whole thing.
How long's gonna take to get in? I'm curious about that.
(53:57):
I mean, it'd be great if you could get all
this stuff rooven before even show up right in order
to buy tickets. If that's what it requires to enter,
it would be a good system if you had to
prove that well beforehand. Where you can, man, you already
checked that box boom. We got the speed pass into
(54:17):
the stadium, but I'm really curious how that's gonna go.
I'll never forget. I went to a Bills game years ago,
and I don't know what the hold up was, but
it took forever for us to get into the stadium.
Like it was midway through the first quarter. It might
have been the second quarter when we finally got in,
and we showed up before the game. I don't know
(54:38):
why it took forever to get in, but it sucked.
If you've listened to me ever, you know I am
a hardcore NFL junkie. I'm starting to scratch my neck,
like I need my fix. I'm outside. You can't see
the game. You just hearing the crowd react to some place.
I'm like, what's going on? It wasn't good. So I
am curious how these NFL and college teams, how they
(55:03):
can at least streamline the process of getting fans into
the stadium. If they're requiring vaccination proof or a negative
COVID test, I'm for it. I just I am curious
what the process will be to get everybody in or
to weed out the people that don't have the credentials.
They need your thoughts on that. Feel free at the

Who is this, Chris? It sounds like frat boy rock.
It's not frat boy rock. It's Mastodon? Is it really?
(56:52):
The DoD's got some heavy stuff? What are they doing
with this song? What is this radio friendly? Here? I
think they say that this is this is off their
newer album, and I think they even admitted early on.
It's like, yeah, they just kind of came out a
little more poppy than what we usually Gosh, this sucks.
What are you doing? It's gonna be back to having
testicles mastered? Don good lord? What it sounds like? You
(57:16):
like you? You know how some of the preppy dudes
they take their sweater and tie it around their waist.
That's what I picture everybody doing at this show. Just
watch the elbows, man. We're just trying to We're just
trying to have fun here listening to the rest of
this album and nothing else on that album sounds like
it it just again. They they said, hey, man, we
(57:37):
don't go in there looking for, you know, a specific thing.
It just if we write it this way, it comes
out this way. Wow. Thumbs down on that one. Can
I get another Masta down track later on in the show? Yeah? Sure.
What do you want Blood and Thunder? No, I want
the same album. I just want to hear if there's
a big difference in the heaviness. I take your word
for it, but I just want to hear something. Okay,
(57:58):
I'll dig up something from that. Okay, man, some of
these bands, you know, I won't go on a tangent here.
I'll just mention one band. Oh no, selling out? Oh now, okay,
you're the you're the roll your eyes at the selling out.
I'm not gonna mention Metallica or I'm not mentioning them. Uh.
(58:20):
Machine Head. I love machine Head. They had some album,
like many songs and a couple of albums and they're
like they literally said it, They're like, we're just doing
this for money. We were just trying to do it
for money. And then they went back to their metal ways.
But uh yeah, that's I don't know, man. I don't know.
Some bands when they do a one eighty, it's like,
(58:41):
oh gosh, it's one thing to go from heavy to pop, right,
that's a much bigger leap right there. Who let's here's
my question. Who hops too heavy? Right? Who went from
pop to just heavy? Like I'm thinking because o Peth
(59:01):
kind of did that thing where they went from heavy
to hey, we really want to do kind of you know,
Prague rock from the sixties. Baroness kind of did the
same thing that it was more psych Prague. Look at you,
you're deep in the game. I used to run a
metal show Pantera. I used to a good example. Back
in the day, they were they were glamored up, man,
they were that that was true. Nobody nobody remembers the
(59:23):
hair metal days of Pantera, and for good reason. That's
what I can't remember. If it was the demo or
the first album, something with power in it, I can't
remember exactly. I was gonna say there was a German
band running Wild was kind of that way too. I
know they went from like hair metal to doing kind
of more I don't even know what you call. At
(59:46):
that point they started singing about pirates though a lot.
Hey man, I appreciate going down that road with you. Chris.
We might bring back uh music talk with forty five
seconds to go at the to this hour, you got
me deep, you got me deep in the mask Don
Crates now trying to figure out something to say your
blood lust please please, because they've got heavier stuff. I
(01:00:09):
just can't believe that was them. I cannot believe the sky.
I'm sorry, Oh, I have to give you a quick
music story. Actually, let me save it. Let me save
it because I've got a lot to do here, but
I'm writing it down. Sick of it all and Slayer together,
I've got I've got a story for you here, But
let me get to paying. This off a tweet from
(01:00:31):
an NFL player that should be a first ballot Hall
of Fame tweet. We should write this that it should
be on a plaque, It should be hoisted into the
rafters immediately. It is Bears running back Tarik Cohen. So
he's sticking up for his former quarterback Mitch Drabinsky. So
(01:00:51):
Mitch Drabinski is now a backup for the Bills. He's
backing up Josh Allen with the Buffalo Bills. So the
Bills face the Bears today in Chicago in preseason action.
All right, so Trabinsky comes back to Chicago as a
member of another team, and so Bears running back to
Terek Cohen. He just posted the following on Twitter. If
(01:01:17):
you boo Mitch Tomorrow, you a lame and a weirdo.
That is top shelf. That is not just chef's kiss
on that were you kidding me? If you boom Mitch Tomorrow,
you a lame and a weirdo? I listen, that's a
lock off tweet. You kidding me? That's tremendous. And I
(01:01:38):
do like this. I like how he is sticking up
for Mitch. You know it didn't work out in Chicago.
I can understand how some Bears fans would be bent,
But what's it gonna accomplish? The boo the guy during
preseason action? That is weird. This is odd. I know,
I get it, and trust me, I do. I'm sure
(01:01:59):
some Bears fans are looking at their radios right now, like,
where's Gargano bringing gard ghetto? He gets it, He understands
the hostility angle this. No guy, he's a little bit
too pinky up when he's sipping his latte. For my taste. No,
I get it, Bears moved up to get Mitchell Drabinski
with the number two overall pick didn't pan out. Oh
(01:02:21):
and meanwhile, Mahomes he was in that draft tent overall.
And oh yeah, Deshaun Watson, who has been very good.
He was twelfth overall and we're waiting to see his
legal situation play out. But no one's doubting his talent, right,
Deshaun Watson has been light years ahead of Mitch Drabinsky
(01:02:42):
in terms of on the field NFL quarterbacking. So yeah,
I get it didn't work out for the Bears Crash
and Burn City, no doubt. But I think booing is
just childish. I think it's a I think it's an adult,
temperate tantrum. Now, oh my gosh, while I'm talking about
booing and having a very like it's stupid stance on it.
(01:03:06):
If you're used to Gargano, the Philly guy, man, you're
like to get no way from this fill in slot
forever please. But I just differ. I do not have
a filly mentality where you're just upset things aren't going
your way, and it's the adult version of well, I'm
not getting my way and it's disguised as boo That's
(01:03:30):
all it is. It's lame to me. So I am
on team Cohen on this one. I think that if
Mitch's booed today by the Bears faithful, I think they
are lame and weirdos. That's I agree. I'm signing off
with Tarikoh and co signed that one totally with him
on that. I'm totally with ka Fig. When it comes
(01:03:53):
to another award winning update, you take it away, Kate Fig.
All right, thanks, Brian, appreciate it. We'll start with some
preseason NFL ler Murray, making his debut for Arizona, had
just two passing yards and three offensive series one of
four passing. Meanwhile, Patrick Mahomes seventy eight yards through the
air in an interception in three offensive drives. Case did
(01:04:13):
notch the seventeen to ten win in that one. Washington
defeating Cincinnati seventeen thirteen Bengals top pick Jamar Chase three
drop passes on three targets. Washington quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick played
in four series. He won, seven up thirteen for nineties
six yards. Finner race is heating up in Major League Baseball.
The Giants lead in the NL West is down to
a game and a half over the Dodgers. After l
(01:04:35):
A defeated the Mets. In Oakland defeated San Francisco. The
Philly snapped a four game skid with a four to
three win in San Diego. Philly now four games out
of the final NL wild card spot. The Reds are
tied with San Diego for that wild card position in
the National League after beating Miami five to three. Atlanta
with a four game leading in the NL East after
a shutout win over Baltimore in the a L. The
(01:04:57):
Yankees and Red Sox both won. Oakland leads Boston by
a half game for the final wild car there Seattle
in Toronto both lost on Friday as well. There are
four games and five and a half games back of
a playoff berth respectively. Back to Brian No by the way,
Kate fig what is your number one go to music genre?
I would say R and B R and B soul music.
(01:05:20):
I grew up listening to a lot of old school
soul music. My it was one of those where you're
in the car with my mom and she was like,
if you're in my car, you're listening to my music.
So so that's kind of what I grew up listening to. Okay,
all right, now, I'm just I'm fascinated by this. We're
talking more about heavier music and how some bands that
they go from mild to heavy or vice versa, they
(01:05:41):
go from heavy to mild. I don't know if R
and B. Are there any examples of that where styles
have changed drastically. No. I would say maybe towards the
late nineties and early two thousands you had more of
a melding together of the R and B genre with
the hip hop genre and a lot more features going
back and forth between the two, and you have a
little bit of a mix. Nowadays, I think Drake kind
(01:06:03):
of started the movement of someone who seamlessly raps and
then goes to singing, and then goes back to rapping
from singing, back and forth. So from that standpoint, I
guess a little bit. But I don't know if anybody's
that I can think of, at least not top of mind,
their persona or their presentation changed overnight where they went
from being soft, melancholy or whatever R and B to
(01:06:25):
just you know, going after somebody aggressively. That that, to
the best of my knowledge doesn't exist, at least doesn't
come to mind right now. I'm trying to think too.
If if you go to the rap game, right, has
there better wrapper that started off pretty mellow and then
all of a sudden, it's like, holy cow, we took
the training reel wheels off. This dude is like gangster
(01:06:47):
rap now or vice versa, where they went with the
herd stuff and then kind of mellowed up. I don't know.
I'd imagine there are a few examples at some point,
well to a certain degree. I'll use d m X.
The late d m X is a is an example
to what degree. Now, he had always been pretty aggressive,
but towards the the end of his life, he you know,
I found religion and was very religious and in many
(01:07:08):
of his messages. But I would say his rap style
was always the same. That didn't change, you know, the
way his delivery was always the same. You know, you
had someone like if you want to go back to
Tupac where he could be ultra aggressive, but he can
also be soulful to a certain degree in some of
his songs and his lyrics as well. But his style
for the most part was always the same. Um So yeah,
(01:07:30):
it's to my point earlier, nobody immediately comes to mind
where there was just a total one eighty from demeanor
and delivery. I'd have to take it around in their catalog,
but I think young Jeez kind of had a change,
but i'd have to get I don't remember that Jez
to the To the best of my knowledge, Jess always
the same to me. So I just I just wanted
to break in because I even know Iced Tea had
(01:07:51):
that quick brief moment where he tried to form a
heavy metal band. He's not trying. They still do, They
still still stunt? Yeah, yeah, body count does show. Maybe
they did. Maybe they didn't do it because of COVID
last year, but body counts still a thing and it's
still do shows. Absolutely Wow. I didn't. By the way,
this is not a good Iced Tea story at all,
not a great payoff. I mean, it's fine, there's nothing wrong.
(01:08:14):
I was at an eyehop with one of my friends
years ago and he goes to me, He's like, is
that iced tea? And look over it was iced tea
and cocoa, and I'm like, yeah, that's iced tea. That's it.
That's the story. I didn't go up and say, excuse me,
Mr T, can I have a picture? You know I
(01:08:35):
can't do that, k fig Like I feel like if
I don't have something to say, I will not be like, hey,
you're that guy who can't You can't go up to
someone for their picture in a waffle house either or anywhere.
The worst part for me is when they, like especially
in a waffle house, like the waffle house is like
the place where you're supposed to be anonymous. You're just
in there and you get your your eggs or your
(01:08:55):
waffles and that's it. You don't bother nobody. It's the
urinal of restaurants. Yes, yes, I've been to many waffle
houses in my life. That is exactly what it is
for me, unless they're out and about or something that
they don't look that busy. The part that gets me
and when someone walks up to a celebrity who's sitting
at the table and say, excuse me, I don't mean
to be a bother And I would just stop him
(01:09:16):
right there and say, then don't then don't be about
it and leave me alone and let me have my meal. Please. Yeah,
I'm just trying to think. I Uh, I was that
funny enough, I was at a urinal with Fireman Ed.
You know, the dude who leads the j so you
know the rule at the urinal, eyes forward, that's the rule.
(01:09:40):
But I like, out of the court of my eye,
there's like this dude wearing an obnoxious hat. I couldn't
help but and I just glanced over. It's Fireman Ed,
and I'm like, I don't know what to say. Is
I didn't say anything. I was gonna be like, hey,
you're like the dude, who the chance, right, we're at
the urinal. I just wasn't gonna do it. I was
(01:10:01):
gonna do that. Now, do you wait till after you
guys are both done and you go wash your hands,
and then you might strut spark up a conversation or something,
because I know there are some people that that it's
really taboo. They will have no not only do they
look ahead, there's no conversation whatsoever. They could have been
talking to you thirty seconds ago in the hallway. But
once you go to the urinal, it's over. Then there's
others they will just keep carrying on the conversation, they'll
(01:10:21):
do their business, they'll go wash their hands and like
not break stride, just keep on going. I'm the guy.
I've got to have something to say. I'm just I'm
not gonna be like, hey, you're that dude. Funny enough,
Kate fig while we're going down this road. I an Eagle,
great broadcaster. I interviewed him when I was doing my
show in Portland's when it was still in existence. But
(01:10:41):
I an Eagle is awesome. And he's like, people at
the urinal they recognize me and they ask for selfies. Yeah,
and he just he's like, yeah, I go along with it,
like whatever. Yeah, So some people they're they're allowed space. Yeah,
waffle House urinals and the confessionals, places where you just
(01:11:04):
don't go after people, the Holy Trinity of privacy. Chris,
I like it, Amen. I just love that Iron Eagle
rolls with it. How many broadcasters would be like, are
you serious right now, psycho? I'm doing my business, and
I an Eagle just just like, yeah, sure, go ahead,
snap a few pictures. Tastefully done. He's not doing a
(01:11:25):
full turnaround right like we're talking to do with the
urinals in the background. Probably I don't know I am,
but he's probably seems like a pretty nice guy. So
he probably just rolls with it. It's your friends, Like, Hey,
I met Ian Eagle. It's like, that's cool, but why
are you guys standing in front of it? One of
those troughs at a stadium, those are the worst. Those
are the worst. Did any new stadiums put the troughs in?
(01:11:48):
That's that's barbarous and that belongs to the dark age,
even like the older stadiums that have been remodeled. I
believe Dodger Stadium about ten years ago took out all
of the troughs. I was at Wrigley about two years ago.
Trops are still there. Don't know if there's something like
romantic about that, and as I know, really has a
very old school field to it and how it's built.
But uh yeah, not a big fan, to be honest.
(01:12:11):
I didn't know the Dodgers were pro trough for a while.
Oh yeah, oh yeah, for a long time. For a
long time. Had been about the better part of a decade.
They took all the troughs out. Wow. Yeah, I'm firmly
in the camp of anti trough very firm on that one.
By the way, let's work in Nicky be here, because
I was talking some pro wrestling see him. Punk made
(01:12:32):
his return to pro wrestling after a seven year hiatus
a e W SO I mentioned it's blowing up Twitter,
and Nicky be Off the area is like, I got
an epic edge story for you. Now, I don't know
if I'm pumping this up a little bit. He might
have just said I have an edge story for you,
and in my radio hearing, I'm like, it's epic. It's
gonna be the greatest edge story ever. But I don't
(01:12:54):
know what is this edge story here? Nikki be So.
When I was eighteen years old, I was a huge
wrestling fan and my friends and I we live course
does in Syracuse, New York, where they only did house shows,
so they weren't like, you know, robs or smack downs.
They weren't televised. And my friend of ours, a late
friend of ours, was like, Hey, I'm gonna be at
the airport looking, you know, see if I get autographs
(01:13:14):
from guys. Do you want to come? And we're like, yeah,
we have nothing to do with the Saturday, it's you
know whatever. So we go to the airport and I'm
wearing this Calgary Flames Drone Again LA T shirt and
this plays into the story. And so Edge goes off
the plane and he's getting his bags. You know, people start,
you know, crowding them, and I get near him and
I'm and he looks at me and he just goes.
(01:13:36):
People wants him to sign something, goes I want a
picture with that guy. He points to me like he's
he's got a Calgary shirt on. He's like he knows
what's up? So I mind you. I'm where my my process,
my fake arm, right, I have nothing for him to sign.
This is Edge is my favorite wrestler. I'm like, oh God,
oh God. And I'm like, um, Edge, can you sign
my procesis? And and he's like this looks at me
(01:13:58):
like bug eye, and he's like you all of my
years of wrestling and signing autographs, I have never signed
a fake arm. It would be my honor. And so
I took my arm off and gave it to him.
A friend of mine had a black sharpie signed it.
He signed an Edge. I had it laminated over so
it doesn't wash off. And I still have the arm.
(01:14:19):
It doesn't fit me, but it's on a shelf in
my closet to this day. Wow, dude, that now, where
did he sign it? Like the bicep, like kind of
like right on the on the upper bicep or on
the it would be my forearm area of the of
the process. So yeah, it's it says in his writing edge,
and it's laminated and in the sense I've had it
for over you know, ten plush years. Dude. That is
(01:14:42):
a great story. I just like how it started off
where he wanted a picture with you just because I
had I just decided to wear a Calgary Flame shirt
that day. You know, him being a Canadian, was like, Oh,
that guy knows what's up. I want a picture with
that guy. Now is he a Calgary Flames fan or
just a Canadian hockey fan. He's a hockey fan, not
sure exactly. I know he's from Ontario, so I'm not
(01:15:05):
you know, a Toronto area, so um. I don't know
what team he would root for. I guess would be
the Maple Leafs. But just the fact that he just saw,
you know, an eighteen year old kid, and I was like, hey,
he's of all everybody here is wearing my own merch.
I wanted to picture with a guy who's rocking my
you know, home country sport. That's that was pretty cool. Wow, man,
that's crazy. Good for you. And you still have it
(01:15:27):
right now? Is it on a shelf or something? Where
is it exactly? It's well, it's right now, it's it
was on a shelf. Actually it's still on the shelf.
It's in my my home up in New York, in
my parents place. Yeah, and it's still now. Do you
have like lights? Do you have like certain mood lighting
to accentuate this? No? If I want to get a
trophy case for it, yeah, yeah, I know, like if
(01:15:50):
you go to a card collecting thing or I don't know,
you're just like you got any arm cases at all? Day?
Everything I makeshift. Yeah, it's a it's a fake. It's
a I'm prosthetic on by a professional restaurant. Next, I've
signed Michael Vick Helmett and my signed Roland Williams hatt
and football from the Rams. Yeah is it there? You go? Yeah, man,
(01:16:11):
you gotta go all out. You know, you gotta complete
the uh complete the collection right there? Yeah, good stuff
by you. All right, we keep the flow going. Coming
up next, Petty or Competitive, We'll figure it out. I'm
Brian no In for Anthony Gargan. Gargano. It is the
Fellas here on Fox Sports Radio. I'm Brian No and
(01:16:34):
for Anthony Gargano here on Fox Sports Radio. It's the Fellas.
Is this some more masto? Don No, this is Peach Peach.
I'll get you. I'll get you the mast don back
next hour, you know the very can can you go
back to the very beginning here after you faded out, Chris,
because I think the intro riff sounds very, very strikingly
(01:16:58):
similar to a Corrosion of Conformity song. I'll send it back.
I actually started like about a minute into the song.
But oh, so you gotta do a whole thing. Here
he goes, Dude, here you go like you're near, near near.
That's all I need. It sounds very similar to Albatross.
Sounds very similar to the CEOC song Albatross. It's gonna
(01:17:21):
say it's got some isis to it as well, so
we're gonna do a side by side comparison. It's gonna
blow your freaking mind. A little bit later in the show,
this is like, it's like the night you made me
have to guess Metallica riffs. Maybe it's I'm the only
one interested in this could be very I just don't
(01:17:43):
think this is gonna play in Saturday in the morning
on the East coast. Who is it different? Audio? What
is it? Peach? Peach? Huh peach? Okay, peach? And what's
the song songs called? You lied? You lied? Okay? All right,
I'll get to that. I'll dust it off next hour.
(01:18:04):
Might blow your mind. Might let me get to this this?
Uh so, Lebron James, I'm sure you've heard about this.
ESPN released a survey of ten NBA scouts and executives
and they're voting on various things as far as the
upcoming season. One was best player in the league. Lebron
didn't get a single vote. Yeah, it's got five votes.
(01:18:27):
Kevin Durant got five votes. Those two guys split the
ten votes for best player in the league evenly. So
Lebron goes to Twitter. He writes thank you in all
caps as if I needed more to fuel me hashtag
washed king. Now here's the deal. Is this petty or
(01:18:49):
is it competitive? I could it could be a blend
of both, but this is, in my mind, absolutely competitiveness,
and I have no issue with it whatsoever none. You know.
What's funny is that a lot of people are wired
the same way. Now, they might not tweet it out
or you know whatever. It might not be the same
(01:19:09):
exact situation, might not handle it the same way, but
they're most likely going to bristle the same way. If
you are a competitive person and you're slighted in any way,
your reaction is like, oh, okay, alright, fine, I'll show you.
That's the way a lot of people are wired. So
(01:19:30):
it's funny to me when Lebron gets criticized for showing competitiveness.
That's really what it boils down to. You know what's
funny too, is think about this Greg Popovich outstanding head coach.
You know, it's credentials with the Spurs team USA, just
one gold in Tokyo, and Pop in the locker room,
(01:19:57):
he said this about all the criticism leading up to
the Olympics, and then also in the Olympics when they
dropped their first game against France. Here's what Pop had
to say, as far as the critics go, right, what's
(01:20:18):
the difference? What's the difference? Okay, Pop said it, Lebron
tweeted it, But the concept is exactly the same Pop
As a competitive person. Pop heard the naysayers. Pop took
that and felt a certain way about it, like, oh, okay,
you're gonna doubt us, all right, that's exactly what Lebron
(01:20:40):
is saying. I have no issue with it whatsoever. None. Now, Lebron,
he's missed chunks of two of the past three seasons
due to injury. He's thirty seven years old. He will
be thirty seven in December. But before he suffered that
freak ankle injury compliments of Solomon Hill and the Hawks
diving for a loose all, he was at an m
(01:21:02):
v P level. Lebron, in my mind, was the front
runner when he got injured. So yeah, you can absolutely
make the argument he's still the best player in basketball.
But he's using that as motivation and he should no
problem with it. But because it's Lebron and it's just spun,
Oh my gosh, Lebron, why does he care? He's competitive?
(01:21:23):
Which would you rather have? Would you rather have Lebron's
reaction like, I'm against this? What the unwashed peasants have
to say about me not being the best player in
the league, don't even care, doesn't even register? Or would
you like him to be? Like, oh, okay, Antenna raised,
We'll see, I'd much rather it be the latter. Now,
(01:21:45):
while we have thirty seconds, I'd like to invite Chris
back in here. So how about this, uh, this pro
wrestling thesis again? What what? What was it? It was
on training, It was on young kids in uh Southern
California training he become pro wrestlers, the various dojo's around
the Inland Empire and uh the San Fernando Valley. Right, Okay,
(01:22:07):
we're gonna dig deeper in this. He's doing a very
good job. That's he's telling me in my ear how
much time there's left, and he's talking on the ear.
I'm gonna do it on air next time. All right,
we'll do that. Fox Sports Radio has the best sports
talk lineup in the nation. Catch all of our shows
at Fox sports Radio dot com and within the I
Heart Radio app search f s R to listen live. Yes,
(01:22:31):
a very pleasant Saturday morning to all of you. Thank
you for checking out the show, if you're having a
good start to your morning. So I want to start
off this hour talking about quarterback competitions. We got a
lot to do this hour. We gotta dive back into
the music conversation. I've been finding out all sorts of
(01:22:51):
crazy things. Nikki Bee's mom went to a slip Knot
show even though she doesn't like metal at all. We
have to do an in depth investigation that comes later
this hour. Um so uh and also Chris's uh pro
wrestling thesis. I have to get to a science project
I did in high school and my teacher, uh he
(01:23:13):
hated it. He hated what I was doing. So I
will dive into that as well a cliffs Notes version.
Nothing major on that, but let's start off with quarterback competitions.
Have many of them going on here, and I'll tell
you what. The one that caught my eye the most
recent competition between Teddy Bridgewater and Drew Lock of the
(01:23:37):
Denver Broncos. Now the story is this, Teddy Bridgewater, he
will start today against the Seahawks. Teddy Bridgewater gets the call. Now,
last week it was Drew Lock who started against the
Minnesota Vikings. It's Teddy b today, musical QBS as the
Broncos try to figure out who will start Week one
(01:23:59):
be mine center. And let me just say this, the
Broncos or morons. They are the Broncos or idiots in
this one. And I want to throw out a question.
I think it's very very fair. I think you have
to look at the here and now, and you also
have to look at the future when it comes to
who would you rather be? Now? Think about the Bears.
(01:24:21):
They have a little bit of a quarterback conundrum, if
you will, there's a quarterback competition. Can Justin Fields overtake
Andy Dalton? Justin Fields is gonna get a lot of
playing time today against the Bills. Would you rather be
the Bears where they are with Justin Fields? Bears move
(01:24:44):
up and get him eleventh overall? Or would you rather
be the Broncos who didn't draft a quarterback, who passed
on Justin Fields and they have the two headed monster
of Bridgewater and Lock. Who would you rather be now?
I think this is interesting because I also think that
the head coaches are in similar situations. Would you rather
(01:25:07):
be Matt Naggy of the Bears who's on thin ice,
or Vic Fangio with the Broncos who's on thin ice?
Would you rather have Vic and not have the rookie quarterback?
Or would you rather be Naggy and have Justin Fields
the rookie quarterback? So I think for this year, I
(01:25:29):
would rather have Justin Fields. This year. I would rather
be the Bears who have Justin Fields for the foreseeable future.
I think Justin Fields will pan out eventually. Don't let
me distract you. I don't think he's ready for Week one.
What I saw last week all these people throwing roses
at his feet. He was shaky in the first half.
(01:25:52):
He threw a ball it should have been intercepted, he fumbled,
He didn't look smooth at all. He looked bad against backups.
And then when the Dolphins had even more backups in
the second half, and there are receivers that are wide
open the touchdown throw, there was anybody within twenty yards
of the guy that that's not gonna happen in Week
one against the Rams. So what I've seen so far
(01:26:12):
from Justin Fields, he's not ready for Week one. I
don't understand the rush to put him on the football field,
but that's to the side. I do think that Justin
Fields will pan out eventually, win starm week one, but
I think the future is bright for the kid. So
I would rather be Matt Naggie. I would rather have
Justin Fields, because even if the Bears don't have a
(01:26:34):
good record this season, if Justin Fields plays well enough
to show legitimate promise, that could be enough to save
your job if the Broncos. Put it this way, if
the Bears and Broncos have the same exact record, let's
say they're both nine and eight right game over five hundred,
(01:26:58):
Let's say they both missed the layoffs, same record, I
think Matt Naggi has a much better chance to keep
his job because they have a rookie quarterback. And if
Justin Fields show some potential, some growth, some promise with
Naggi calling the shots, and he's got a better chance
to keep his job than Vic Fangio does. And I
(01:27:21):
also I would rather like start the clock. That's why
the Bears. Bears are in a better situation right now.
They played the lottery selecting Justin Fields, because let's be honest,
that's what largely this is. When you're selecting a quarterback,
it's like a lottery. You don't know for sure, you
(01:27:42):
don't know with great certainty who most of these quarterbacks
not named Trevor Lawrence, how they're going to pan out.
I I can't sit here and say I'm betting my
life savings on Justin Fields panning out. I think he
will but I don't know that. I'm not gonna say,
you're gonn saying I'm betting my life savings that Zack
Wilson will not pan out. I don't think he will,
(01:28:05):
but it's not a certainty. So there's so much unknown
when you're talking about rookie quarterbacks. But in order to
land a franchise guy, a difference maker, you have to
play the lottery. It's like hoping to hit a home
run while you're at bat and not swinging the bat.
(01:28:26):
You're not gonna hit a home run that way. You've
got to swing. And that's what the Bears did. They
swung with justin fields. The Broncos didn't. They're like Carlos
Beltron against my Cardinals. What was it, oh six? NLCS
bases loaded three to count Way, no on the bump
(01:28:48):
for the Cards, and Beltron just looks at strike three.
I wanted to hit home run, wanted at least get
a hit, and looked at strike three. That's what the
Broncos did. They watched even if it's an uncly Charlie
twelve six curve, that's nasty. I the Broncos watched strike
three while hoping to hit a home run. That's what
(01:29:09):
you do. When you pass on a potential franchise quarterback
and you trot out the two headed monster of Teddy
Bridgewater and Drew Lock. You're an embarrassment. That is so absurd.
I can't get over that. I really can't. And even
if Justin Fields doesn't pan out, which is possible, I
think you will, but it's possibly doesn't. At least the
(01:29:31):
Bears have started that process sooner than the Broncos have.
They're ahead already even if their guy doesn't pan out.
Now it's a race and they could jostle right Like,
if Justin Fields doesn't pan out, the Broncos, I don't know,
grow a set, let's say next year and actually draft
a quarterback. You know, there's some sign of actual testicles
(01:29:54):
there and they're like, yeah, let's do it here. Like well,
then all of a sudden, the Broncos could in a
better quarterback position. It's a fluid situation, but at least
the clock has started sooner with the Bears. I would
rather be in that situation. I think the Bears are
in a better spot than the Broncos are, but keep
(01:30:14):
an eye on that. The Bears quarterback competition is Justin
Fields tries to overtake Andy Dalton and the knockdown drag
out between Bridgewater and Lock. Oh my lord, And that's
the other part in that division, the a f C West.
From the Broncos point of view, when you've got my
(01:30:37):
Homes and the Chiefs, you've got Herbert and the Chargers,
you have Derek Carr and the Radas, and you've got
Teddy two Gloves and Drew Lock with a sick defense.
Like if they go with a QB who actually pans out,
imagine the Broncos with the quarterback that's loosely resembling Justin
(01:30:57):
Herbert's rookie season. You're in business all of a sudden,
and you go corner. Great job, awesome job, Broncos. Bravo, Bravo, Broncos.
The pansy Broncos. I don't know what. If he doesn't
tall out, let's not do it. Uh huh. You're gonna
(01:31:18):
end up like Carlos Beltron looking at strike three if
you're not swinging the bat. That's the way it works.
I'm Brian no In for Anthony Gargano is the Fellas
here on Fox Sports Radio. Other QB competitions, the Jacks.
You might be like, what this Yeah, according to Urban Myer,
(01:31:38):
he says the QB competition will last through the final
preseason game, not rushing anything. Ah, all right, here's the thing.
Gardner Minshew is the other quarterback, and I don't want
to make him sound like the worst quarterback ever because
(01:31:59):
he's not. Gardner Minshew. Right, he's a good backup quarterback.
He is a serviceable starting quarterback. He's kind of the
in case of emergency break glass guy like I would
like Gardner Minshew to be the backup and start four
(01:32:20):
or five games in a row if the quarterback goes down, Right,
That's kind of Teddy Bridgewater. It's exactly what he did
with the Saints. I want Teddy Bridgewater filling in for
Drew Brees for a five game stint while Breeze is
banged up, instead of being the starter for all seventeen games. Right.
So that's why I see with Gardner Minshew. And he's
(01:32:44):
going up against Trevor Lawrence, who's the best NFL prospect
at the quarterback position in years, arguably since Andrew Luck.
Get start Trevor Lawrence. I don't understand this reluctance two
starting Trevor Lawrence. Remember urban Meyer was tight lipped about
who was starting last week's preseason game. You can't make
(01:33:08):
this up, Urban Meyers, like it is Trevor Lawrence who
was asked Trevor Lawrence starting eyes, Well, we'll make that
decision tomorrow, will make my determination, and you know, you
guys will eventually find out what what are we doing here? Man?
Come on. I understand that there is a school of
(01:33:31):
thought where every job is on the line. It's a
competition at every spot. I understand the old school coaching tactics.
But look, man, it's like, if I know you're holding
pocket aces, you don't have to just conceal the fact
(01:33:53):
that you have pocket aces. If I know that's what
you have, you don't have to go to great lengths
to like he get your cards and let me just
make sure that no one knows. It's like I already know, right,
it's what urban Meyer is doing. Now. I don't know
that Trevor Lawrence is pocket aces. I think it will
(01:34:14):
be a solid pro But the thought is, why is
he concealing something that we know to be the truth.
We know that Trevor Lawrence, even at this stage, is
better than Gardner Minshew, and we absolutely know this that
with Trevor Lawrence being ready enough to at least take
his lumps, I would rather get that clock started. I
(01:34:37):
think this is closer to a Peyton Manning situation, or Hey,
Trevor Lawrence, he might struggle in his rookie year, he
might take his lumps. Peyton Manning through a ton of
interceptions his first season, the Colts were three and thirteen.
They took a lot of lumps, and all of a sudden,
the next year they're winning double digit games. That paid off.
So I go by, are you at least ready enough
(01:35:01):
to take your lumps without establishing bad habits? If I
can answer that question, yes, I feel comfortable you are
ready enough to take your lumps, and you're not going
to be looking at the oncoming rush like you're gonna
be able to go through your progressions. You're not establishing
hideous habits they're gonna be really hard to break later on.
(01:35:24):
Then I'm all in favor of, hey, throw you in.
You're gonna take your licks, but you're gonna be better
off in the long run for it. But it's the
quarterbacks that if they show that they're struggling against backups,
then I'm not throwing you into the deep end week
one against the Rams at a top defense, Like, I
just don't want bad habits to start. But if I
(01:35:47):
feel confident that you're gonna take your lumps without establishing
bad habits, yeah, have at it. So handful of quarterback competitions.
Add the Patriots to the list. I all most got
my guy Jeff Schwartz into a bet. We're filling in
on out kicked the coverage on Thursday morning, and and
(01:36:10):
Jeff doesn't think that Mac is going to see the
field at all this year. And so I was, okay,
what would you set a legitimate betting line for starts
when it comes to Mac Jones? And he said, I'll
say three and a half. Like, okay, I'll take the over.
Jeff was taking the under, and I'm like, all right,
what's the bet And he's like, you tell me. I'm like,
(01:36:31):
let's make it interesting American dollars. I don't know. For
whatever reason, it's the first figure that came to mind.
And he didn't take me up on that bet. He
didn't take me out, which is fine, which is fine. Uh,
you know, I think when it came time, well, they say,
put the money on the wood to make the bet
and go good. When it tied, it came time to
(01:36:52):
put the money on the wood. It became real because hey,
maybe this there's no guy knows what he's talking about,
and who knows what the Patriots too. I think that
mac Jones will start at least four games this year.
And it's not just this blind belief in mac Jones.
It's I don't think Cam Newton is that good anymore.
Last year ap proved to. He had eight touchdowns and
(01:37:13):
ten interceptions. Good lord in the year, even with the
pandemic shortened offseason. All that to throw more interceptions than
touchdowns even a week supporting cast, all things considered, that's
still you gotta do better than that. You gotta do
better than eight and ten. So I don't think that
Cam is just gonna be carving up defense this weekend
in week out. I think Max's gonna get a lot
(01:37:33):
of starts this year. We'll see if he pans out.
Very interesting year. I'm really curious the two teams, the
Patriots and the Niners. Above all else, I'm really interested
to see how they handled their quarterback situation, how quickly
did the Patriots go to mac Jones? How quickly did
the Niners go to Trey Lance? Are we talking to
(01:37:56):
to a type situation? Two? Is in? I what I say?
It was after the by they played six games by
weeks it's like week eight, right, there were at six
games in and two got to start against the Rams?
How long until Trey Land starts? How long until mac
Jones starts? Could be intriguing storylines for sure, alright, plenty
to get to get the crew back in here. It
(01:38:17):
is the Fellas, after all, it's the fellas plural, not
the fella which is you know me. I can't be
yaching at you the whole time. That's just not true
to form over here, you know, So bring the crew in.
I will eventually get to a topic. There are two
figures in sports. A lot has been said about both
of them, and any perceived slight, any perceived critical comment
(01:38:44):
is always taken as a personal shot. And I just
need to set the record straight that not every critical
comment is a personal shot. I'll lay that out for
you as well. I'm probably no win for Anthony Gargano.
It's the fellas here on Fox Sports Radio. I'm Brian
no In for Anthony Gargano. It's the Fellas here on
(01:39:04):
Fox Sports Radio. It's been an aggressive music show outside
of Mastadon going, oh my gosh, this is fred Boy
rock to No, it's not. This has been what their
music has been since Cracked the Sky. When was the
last mass down album you listen to? I don't know,
but I've heard way heavier stuff than this. Yeah, because
(01:39:28):
you last listen to like Leviathan, this is that's his disappointing.
Mastad's Prague? Who what is it? It's prague. It's progressive,
screw progue Like if Mastadon listens to the Fellas, you
guys got to pick it up? Good lord? What it's hell?
That's that's what people come for for them now. Not
(01:39:49):
everything is marked of the fire Ants. They're the Denver
Broncos of the music world right now, where I'm just like,
what do you do? Come on? Where's your where's your backbone?
Over here? You know? Do I sound grumpy? Chris? You
gave me the millennial Like, oh my gosh, here we go,
grumpy aging guy? What's wrong? Where am I wrong? The Broncos?
(01:40:13):
You don't think the Broncos should have drafted a quarterback.
You think they were not talking about the troncos we're
talking about Mastodon. Why are you changing it on me?
You think you think you can hide your your music
opinion by throwing a crappy NFL team atm me. No
you can't. Broc Rocko stance also okay, No, Broc should
have drafted a quarterback. Okay, but you're okay with a
(01:40:35):
heavy band going frat boy rock. You're like, oh my god,
it's that. You know what it is. It's dying bangs rock.
That's what it is. Matt Masterdon's new album should be
called We Were Dying Our Banks. I don't think you
listen to frat boy rock at all either. You're just
in this weird nether where you're listening to Mastodon doing progressive,
(01:40:56):
which they've done since like Cracked the Sky, and you're
saying it sounds like I'm Freeze McGhee over here. It's horrible.
It's like, hey, Colie Cold, Hey, bro got tickets to
the master Don show. You want to roll? Yeah, see
if Brad can take Like, come on man, what are
we doing over here? Mass That's still too heavy for
me to play at eight thirty in the morning on
(01:41:16):
the East Coast. But I'm still playing it. See what
what you just played? No way, yes, no way. That's
if I go to uh, like a chain restaurant, they'll
be playing that in the background. That's how pop it is.
You're kidding me. So far gone on the Slayer, off
the Slayer deep end. You think anything softer than Raining
(01:41:37):
Blood is frat boy rock. And guess what I'm not
playing Raining Blood on on America's AM and FM radio dial.
So I'm sorry. Oh man, hey, like we have different definitions.
That's all. We'll leave it there, no problem. Okay, I'm
gonna get to UH two players where there have been
(01:42:00):
and critical things said, but not every critical statement is
a personal shot. I'm gonna get to that momentarily. We'll
do that after ka FIG's update. Now I do while
we're talking music here real fast, let me bringing Nikki Be.
Let me bringing Nicky Be because he said something to
me that I'm like, wait, what I need to hear
(01:42:21):
more about this. His mom does not like heavy metal
at all, but went to a slip Knot show, so
I need details on this one. Nikki B. Yes, so
my my mother uh is one of the most heavily
Italian Catholic people that I know my life, and she
I grew up with metal and the stuff like that
(01:42:43):
growing up as a teenager, as most teams do. And
she's one of those those moms, those people who listen
to music who are very much I like the music
where you can understand what they're saying, Nicholas, I don't
like the screaming and the yelling. Yeah, you know. So
my mother was visiting my me last week the past
(01:43:06):
couple of weeks. She recently flew back to New York
and I have nowhere. We're just talking about like music
and and conscience we've been to and we were just mentioning.
My really just mentioned Slipno. She oh, I saw them live.
I'm like, you saw Slipknot live? And she's like yeah,
Like when did you see them? She's like it was
like like early two thousand, right after Subliminal Volume three
(01:43:30):
Subliminal Versus came out. And my mom's like, where do
you think you got that Slipknot T shirt from? I'm like,
that's where that T shirt came from. I thought you
got it from like a store in Virginia where it's
like no I went to No, she's like, I got
I got offered a free ticket to go to a concert.
I know who it was. I saw it was Slipknot,
and I went, and she went with a friend of hers,
(01:43:51):
and I was just like, because because her friendn't even
know what the concert was here, because they go they
went to this place and apparently get like free tickets
from time and time. He goes to concert and slip
Not played, and and my mother saw a Slipknot, So yeah,
that's it's being thrown into the deep end right there.
If they're like, I don't know who this is, let's
check it out. Maybe we'll like it. And all of
(01:44:12):
a sudden, it's like wow. And she stayed for the
whole thing and bought me merch. I like, that's awesome.
I love that she She stayed the whole time, even
though that's not her cup of tea. Your mom's awesome,
you know. She she sounds cool, unlike Chris who supports
frat boy rock over there. Unbelievable by him. I don't
(01:44:32):
know why you think that people who listen to Masterson
are people who were like the pop collars and the
khaki shorts and their bands are lawyers. All right, I
might take it a little too far with that little bit.
It's just way, way, way too too late for my
tastes heavy. We have three bounce back breaks. You're going
to make me start playing um friese mcgae a. Just
(01:44:54):
just so you know, I don't. I just think you
are so you're so locked into your quarter. You don't
actually know what frat boy you want me to know.
It's too light. You want me to you want me
to really go here. No, we'll get to there. We'll
get there. We'll get there. Yeah, we'll get there. Let's
get to k Fig here. We gotta get some sports
into the sports radio show. You know, k Fig. What
do we need to know in the sports world, Buddy?
(01:45:15):
I will say I'm not a judge of frat Boy Rock,
but if you were to ask me, I would have
thought like I would say, like green Day is what
I would have put in as like frat boy rock.
But Matthews, Yeah, Dave Matthews, man, that's frat boy rock.
And my I didn't even know who masked it on
is to be honest with you, I freaking hate Dave
Matthews bands. Terrible great musicians. But absolutely agree with you.
Chris definitely flat frat boy rock. Yes, music definitely not
(01:45:38):
for me, but we'll get to some of some Major
League Baseball trade Turner making a huge impact for the Dodgers.
Two hits, scored two runs. On Friday Night, they defeated
the Mets three to two. Walker Bueller, having a spectacular season,
struck out eight pitched into the eighth inning. Former Dodger
Alex would now with the Giant suffering because fourth loss
of the season. Openly between their Bay Area rivals four
(01:45:58):
to one. Phillies Hill Dawn to beat the Padres in
San Diego four to three. Sunny gray equality start for Cincinnati.
They get themselves a victory over Miami and are now
tied with San Diego for the final wild card spot
in the National League. The Yankees hammer Minnesota, tend to
to Chris Sale and Boston shut out Texas Lucas Giolito
eight strikeouts in seven and he's leading the White Sox
(01:46:19):
over the Rays. Third round of the Northern Trust Open
and Golf is underway, although the contenders at the top
of the leader board won't see all for another couple
of hours or so. John rom has a one stroke
leader for Tony Finale and a two stroke lead over
as Andrews, Showfley and Justin Thomas. NFL preseason, Patrick Mahomes
played a couple of series for Kansas City through for
seventy eight yards and an interception in a victory over Arizona.
(01:46:40):
Kyler Murray in his preseason debut one for four passing
two yards in three offensive series, all of which were
three and out. Bengals receiver Jamaar Chase was targeted three times,
had three drop passes in a loss to Washington. Back
to Brian Oh, thank you, k Fig. You know I'll
say this to you real fast. Tyler Murray. I'm so
interested to see what kind of season he has. Now
(01:47:02):
three series that he was in not one first down,
sacked twice minus one missed open missed and open guy
over the middle. Not great. They're working out the kinks.
But you know what, I can't help but think about
if Kyler Murray think about this, if he has a
(01:47:23):
third season that resembles Josh Allen's third season. Now, think
about this, Kyler Murray. His first two years have been
better than Josh Allen's first two years. Josh Allen was brutal.
His completion percentage was awful. He was inaccurate, he was erratic,
he made weird decisions, and all of a sudden, last year,
(01:47:44):
Josh Allen, Bill's quarterback was amazing, he was outstanding, and
all of a sudden, the Bills poof, They're in the
a f C Championship Game. So if you look at
Kyler Murray, there's no doubt he's talented. And last season,
you look at his numbers, sixty seven person sent completion rate,
just under four thousand yards, twenty six touchdowns, twelve picks.
(01:48:04):
It's pretty good pastor writing around. So think about this
k FIG. You've got DeAndre Hopkins arguably the best receiver
in football. You bring in a J. Green if he's
got some gas link left in the tank. If Kyler Murray,
maybe it's not the same season as Josh Allen, but
he takes a huge step forward, even in a Gauntlet division.
(01:48:29):
That would be enormous for the Arizona Cardinals. And I
don't think it's outside the realm of possibility, Oh not
at all. And the problem with him is, if you
want to call it a problem, it happens. Maybe the
sophomore slump but remember they got that Dad that hell
Mary against Buffalo to get that victory, and then they
hit the skids. His production went down. The Cardinals were
terrible down the stretch of the regular season. Maybe the
(01:48:50):
league kind of adjusted to him. So now it's how
does he adjust to them? You know? And Cliff Kingsbury.
There are some I think it's kind of ridiculous, but
rumblings that Cliff Kingsbury could be on the hot seat
if they kind of had a middling season and we're
hovering around six and ten or I guess six and eleven. Now, Um,
I don't know if that's the case or not. I
think he's leashed maybe a little bit longer than that.
(01:49:11):
But because Kylin Murray is is small and they have
a gimmicky offense, if it comes into this year and
it doesn't work, uh, those questions will will come in.
So I do think that this is a big season
for him, even if he doesn't have a other worldly year,
uh like Josh Allen did, at the very least duplicate
the numbers that he had and maybe have a be
more even throughout the season and not get off to
(01:49:33):
such a hot start and they just hit the tank
the last seven eight games. You know what I think
is interesting And I really hadn't thought of it until
you brought up the record thing. I think one more
game in the season, I think it could lead to
a lot of coaches that they could hang on for
another year, they could get canned. I think you're gonna
see more of those coaches get fired because think of this,
(01:49:57):
six and eleven sounds in feels worse than six and ten,
you know what I mean, Like it just feels like
a longer season, like, man, we suck. Like I think
that those tweener coaches that could hang on, I think
they're gonna get canned more often than not. Like think
of five and twelve, you know, like four and thirteen,
(01:50:18):
it's like, oh my gosh, let's make a change, the
start a new right. Like I think if Cliff Kingsbury Berry,
based on what he's done so far, if he's like
six and eleven, I think he's gone, yeah, well that no,
that will be a step back, whereas they did end
up finishing eight and eight last year. I believe. So, yeah,
you can't go backwards. At the very least, you have
to be on par with where you are with understanding
(01:50:40):
to your point, the division that they're in, which is
Murderers Roll, probably the best division in the entire sport,
so it's gonna be tough sledding. I'll say, if they
can get to eight wins in the NFC West, for me,
that's a victory for them. That would be incredible. I
don't know if I don't know if the bid Wales
filled thataway, but that's as an objective observer, that's how
I would feel. I'm just thinking of teams that have
(01:51:03):
the greatest range between Hey, they could have a pretty
solid record, and they could have a pretty record. I
think the Arizona Cardinals would have to be one of
those teams because again, year three, if Kyler Murray takes
a step forward, that could be big. They could be
a double digit win team. That wouldn't shock me. How
(01:51:23):
bad could they be? You know, six and ten, I'm sorry,
six and eleven, that's gonna take a second. So I
give them maybe like a four five win window if
you like the disparity between the ceiling and the floor, right, Like,
(01:51:43):
who else would have that type of range um The
injury issue is always the wild card. You know, it's
hard to predict that, But outside of a major injury,
like who could have predicted Dak Prescott was gonna play
five games? I think a team like the Patriots has
a pretty decent window between their ceiling and their floor.
(01:52:06):
You know, how about the Chargers? Absolutely every year with
the Chargers, how many years have we said the Chargers
look like a ten to twelve win team and they
end up finishing with seven or seven to nine wins
because they have all these injuries that pop up, or
they just can't win a close game because their kicker
is terrible. Yeah, I would put the Vikings in that
group to last year below five hundred. But no, the
(01:52:31):
Neil Hunter all season long. So Daniel Hunter comes back,
made of a lot of moves in the draft. On
the defensive end of the football, you got Mike Zimmer
over there. It wouldn't surprise me if the Vikings have
a really strong season. It wouldn't surprise me if they
stink out loud, right, you know, I think Denver the
same way. I think everywhere outside of the quarterback position,
(01:52:52):
they're really good. They're really good and really talented. And
if Terry Bridgewater is just a game manager and that
deepend is good. With Chub back in the in the
mix with von Miller, they could be a team that
can win six games, or they can win eleven games
if things break their way. Yeah, just at the QB
spot so important. But to your point, with that defense,
(01:53:16):
they're gonna win a couple of slug fests like seventeen thirteen.
You have a couple of those games. And we know
Teddy two gloves is serviceable. He's not gonna lose many
games for you. So yeah, crazier things have happened. That's
by the way, the over underwin todor for Arizona is
eight and a half games. So that's a fun one, right,
(01:53:40):
I don't know if I can touch that one. That's
a that's a tough division, man. That's like, compare the
Arizona Cardinals to the Colts for a second, right, look
at the Colts where Hey, what's Carson wentzz gonna do.
We don't know, when's it gonna be healthy, We don't know.
There's a lot of unknown with the Colts. But in
that division, with the Texans and the Jazz X, you're
(01:54:01):
in such a better spot just off the rip, right,
those four games. If you're the Cardinals and you've got
the Seahawks, the Rams, and the Niners like it's night
and day in your division compared to where the Colts are.
I mean, if they look if there's still injuries going around.
With the a f C South, I mean, I could
(01:54:22):
see a team of ten wins, you know, making it
winning that division, whereas in the NFC West you can
have ten wins and ms the playoffs completely easily. That's amazing. Yeah,
that's wild. I think last year, I love that ball
is right around the corner. But think about the a
f C North, where there were three teams with at
least eleven wins. That's crazy that the Steelers went twelve
(01:54:45):
and four, the Ravens and the Browns both went eleven
and five. Like you could see something somewhat similar in
the NFC West, where yeah, ten and nine, I guess,
like ten wins the Dolphins were I'm sorry, my math
is terrible. Ten and seven. Good lord. The the NFL
(01:55:06):
is like they're listening, They're like, nineteen games, No filling
guy is going with this. Yeah, the Dolphins ten and six,
as you know, okay fits the playoffs, so that could
easily happen with an extra Yeah, good stuff, all right.
Coming up next, I got punched in the face at
a slip Knot show. We'll get to that momentarily. And
also I'll lead off with this, I'll pay it off.
(01:55:29):
Two athletes. There have been critical comments made about them,
but not every criticism is a personal shot. I'll lay
it out for you. I'm Brian no in for Anthony Gargano.
It's the Fellas on Fox Sports Radio, Brian no And
for Anthony Gargano, it's the Fellas here on Fox Sports Radio.
(01:55:52):

hot water you need for as long as you need
it right now. Save hundreds on a new Navy in
tankless water heater with local rebates. Visit Tankless Made Simple
dot Com Tankless made Simple dot Com. I'm gonna dive
right in. There are two players that have gotten their
(01:56:15):
fair amount of criticism, but not every criticism is a
personal shot. I saw that um Madden twenty two came
out on Thursday, and Colin Kaepernick has a higher rating
than half of the starting quarterbacks in the league right now,
(01:56:39):
And uh, it just made me think the two guys
where they have been criticized sometimes fairly, but it's always
taken as if it's a personal shot. It's Colin Kaepernick,
it's Tim Tebow. Those are the two guys, and they've
both been in the news this week. So with Cap
(01:57:02):
he has an eight one overall rating in Madden two.
That's the same rating that Raiders quarterback Derek Carr has. Now,
just make it about football, Okay, we're not talking about
anything else. This isn't about kneeling or anything on the
(01:57:24):
on the outside of a football conversation. Right, if we're
just talking about football, do you think that Colin Kaepernick,
who hasn't played since the season, do you think that
he's entering in the NFL and he's producing at the
(01:57:45):
same level the same rate as Derek Carr. Do you
believe that to be the case. If you do, you're
a crazy person. There's nothing personal with that at all.
We're just sucking football here. But Derek Carr and I
don't make him sound like he's walking on quarterback water.
(01:58:06):
But he's better than a lot of people make him
out to be. He certainly is better. If you look
at a season last year, over yards passing, seven touchdowns,
nine picks. Passer rating is over one oh one. That's good.
You're getting the triple digits. Absolutely take that. Derek Carr
(01:58:27):
was tenth and passer rating last year, so good numbers.
Like to think that you can enter in the league
for the first time since and generate those numbers, it's
just not happening. It's it's not happening. And so with
(01:58:48):
me saying that some people would take that as a
personal shot, it's not at all. It's just talking ball,
that's it. This isn't some hidden agenda of oh, that
guy cap the kneeling. I don't like that, So therefore
I'm just gonna shoehorned my thoughts of his football playing
(01:59:09):
a Billy now man like. And it's the same concept
with Tim Tebow. It's almost like you have to preface
any comment that's critical in nature with this isn't personal.
Tebow is a great dude, Like I want him to
marry my daughter. You gotta preface it with all those things.
(01:59:29):
But if you simply say the dude can't play, he
doesn't belong in the NFL, he's not good enough. If
you say those things, it's like, man, what is it
with these personal attacks of Tim Tebow? It's what are
we doing here. It's not a personal attack at all.
It's the truth. He's not good enough for the NFL.
(01:59:52):
That doesn't mean I woke up with him getting cut
this week and it was Christmas in August, where I'm like, hey, goody,
this is hey. Tim Tebow is a wholesome guy. He
works hard, he's religious. I have no beef with the
guy at all. But if I just simply say he's
(02:00:13):
not good enough to be an NFL player, many people
will take that as a personal shot. This is person
I don't know what it is with these people and
why it's so personal for them with their criticisms. It's
not personal at all. So if I talk about Kaepernick
it being a joke that he's rated the same as
(02:00:34):
Derek Carr and Madden twenty two, it's not a personal shot.
If I talk about Tebow not being good enough to
cut it in the NFL, it's not a personal shot
at all. But they have that in common. I don't
I don't know what it is. It's the arguments that
have just gone on for so long, and I don't know.
(02:00:55):
I think that each side ratchets up the intensity for
the other her side, and that's It's been a back
and forth with Tebow, has been back and forth with
Kaepernick over the years. But the point is not every
criticism is personal in nature. I think it's the opposite.
I think that almost every criticism is taken as a
(02:01:18):
personal shot. I think that's where it kind of goes
off the tracks right there, by the way, on a
much lighter note, I got a tweet here from Jordan's
hashtag supporting the show. Shout out to him, very nice.
So I was talking about Gavin Kinsel, who now I
find out is a former producer at Fox Sports Radio.
(02:01:38):
I had no idea. I'm like, oh, my guy, Gavin.
You know, I think about him when I hear the
Slip Knots song Psycho Social and they're like Chris was
like a news flash, No, he hasn't worked here in
about a month. I'm like, what I thought we were boys,
had no idea. But building off that, Jordan tweeted in
at the No show and wrote, I know how you feel.
I had a good buddy at work and had no
(02:02:00):
clue he left until they were scrambling to fill his
shifts on the days he was working. It makes it
feel really good. Yeah, I thought I knew Gavin Kinsel unbelievable.
He just up in the left. I had no clue whatsoever. Now,
uh real fast I mentioned this. I got punched in
the face at a slipnot show. Now, Nick Battalia is
(02:02:21):
why his wife, his mom, who is not a metal
fan at all, she went to a slipnot show and
she stayed through the whole thing and got him a
T shirt. That's awesome parenting, right, that is all that is.
There are so many moms that are like, what is
this loud racket that now I'm out here? So I
was at a slipnot show pushing and shoving general admission.
That's the way it goes. A guy got upset because
(02:02:42):
I just have a forearm in his back. That's the
way it goes. People in back of me pushed me.
I pushed people in front of this the way it goes.
I feel this tap in my face and I see
a fist being retracted from my face. It was a
girl punched me. It was like his girlfriend punched me
in the face. I didn't do anything. What I'm gonna do,
I'm gonna punch her back. I should have punched him.
Missed opportunity all right, coming up next, the person that's
(02:03:03):
in the worst position to succeed in week one. Fox
Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in the nation.
Catch all of our shows at Fox sports Radio dot
com and within the I Heart Radio app. Search f
s R to listen live. Ah, Yes, good morning. I
hope you enjoying your Saturday. Lots to do, lots going on.
I'm looking at my notes. There's a lot of stuff,
(02:03:25):
lots of stuff here. I'm rearranging, organizing, starting off with
ball this hour, I want to talk about Dak Prescott.
I mentioned this earlier, but I'm fascinated by this. I
don't think there is a player in the NFL that's
in a worst spot to succeed in Week one. I
(02:03:47):
think Dak Prescott is in the worst position possible to succeed.
With the season beginning, and it's not that far from now.
We're talking just a few weeks and that first game
of the year, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defending Super Bowl
champions hosting the Cowboys. Now, there are a few things
(02:04:08):
that I think they're working against Dak, and you put
them all together and it is a concoction of this
Saint pretty I would label this this ain't pretty for
Dak Prescott because he only played five games last season.
He's been out for the better part of a year.
(02:04:29):
He's nursing a shoulder issue. Right now, they're ramping up
his reps. He's expected to get more reps in practice.
We don't know if he's gonna play in the preseason
at all, but he's missed a lot of training camp time.
I think that's important to get your rhythm back, to
get into a flow, to get your field back, and
also to trust your body. When you're coming off of
(02:04:52):
a major injury, you have to be able to trust
your body fully, and that takes time. You've got to
know that, hey, I can cut and my ankle is
gonna be okay. I know I can change direction, I
can plant, I can drop back, I can do all
of these things. And it's one thing to know that
(02:05:13):
in training camp. It's another thing to know that even
in the preseason where the intensity is ratcheted up a
little bit, where it's an actual game type setting. Dak
Prescott doesn't know that yet. I don't want his first
major step towards trusting his body to be Week one
(02:05:36):
against Tampa Bay if he doesn't see the field in
the preseason. I don't like that at all. And we
haven't even gotten to the opponent yet. They're playing the
defending Super Bowl champions, who brought back every starter. They
actually brought back their top thirty one guys in terms
(02:05:59):
of minute is played last year. All those dudes are
back this year. They wanted all and they're starting off
at home unveiling the banner. How many years has the
defending Super Bowl champion been successful in that home opener?
A lot of the time. There's a reason for that.
(02:06:22):
There's an electricity in the air. First game of the season.
It's tough. It's tough to catch the defending champs just
sleepwalking in the first game of the year. When it's
a nationally televised, standalone game. It's not easy at all.
So if you look at DAC, his Cowboys defense is
(02:06:43):
not close to Tampa's defense, so he has much less
margin for error, and so I think he's staring at
Week one loss right in the face. And then ask yourself,
what's the fallout gonna be If that becomes the case.
The Cowboys lose and Dak doesn't play that well, he's
(02:07:03):
gonna get hammered for it. Hammered. It's gonna turn into
I told you Dak wasn't worth that contract extension. They
shouldn't have done that, They had to skip other places. Congratulations, Cowboys,
you paid a good quarterback, elite money. It's gonna come
back to bite you. Repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat. That's the
way it's gonna go. If Dak doesn't play well and
(02:07:25):
the Cowboys lose. Even if Dak plays pretty well and
the Cowboys still lose, he's still gonna get hammered. He's
still gonna get raked over the coals. So I think
he's in a horrible spot. Who's in a worst spot
then Dak Prescott? Come Week one? Who has the injury
(02:07:45):
issue that Dak Prescott is working through. Who's playing in
the nationally televised standalone game. Are there a couple right?
We have Sunday Night Football, Monday Night Football. Who's playing
the defending champs? No one, that's Dak. Who's gonna get
crushed and questioned about a contract extension if he starts
(02:08:06):
off slowly. Oh and by the way, he's missed a
better part of a year and only played five games
last year. There's no one in a worse position than
Dak Prescott come week one. He is set up to
fail and I think it would be an overreaction if
he gets criticized way too heavily, like that can happen,
(02:08:31):
but I think a lot of that criticism will be fair.
Uh if he doesn't get the job done come week one,
and I think that will be the case. And look,
there's a big difference between I think about some of
the the weaker opponents. Pick anybody from the division. What
if the Cowboys started off the season against the Eagles,
(02:08:53):
its way better than starting off against Tampa. You could
name twenty teams or would be a better scenario for
the Cowboys to start off against them compared to Tampa
internationally televised, standalone game those games. Here's the deal, here's
the truth. With fans and the media, it's a lot
like corporate America. We're just too busy to be completely accurate.
(02:09:17):
I've always said this, where I've had many bosses where
they're just too busy to be really accurate about me. Right, So,
like Eddie Voss, they're gonna take some big picture things
and they're gonna sort of guestimate what the rest of
the performance is like, that's the way fans and the
media are. So if you look at the Dallas Cowboys
(02:09:42):
Week one against Tampa, that's gonna be one of the
biggest stages they're going to be on this season. And
so depending on how they fare and how Dak Prescott fairs,
that's gonna go a long way. If we have this
perspective of of DA's overpaid Cowboys, shouldn't have given him
(02:10:03):
that extension, Like a nice Sunday performance against the Eagles
isn't going to go far enough to change that perspective.
Once you get a reputation, it takes a lot to
change it. If you're known as the guy who shows
up late, you're gonna have to show up really early
(02:10:24):
many times to change your reputation. If you're known as
the cheap guy, Oh, man, he never picks up at check,
You're going to have to pay for dinner after dinner
after dinner for someone to be like, man, what's gotten
into him? Like, what's what's up with the cheap guy? Like?
It takes a lot to change your reputation. And so
for Dak Prescott week one against Tampa, if he gets
(02:10:48):
off to a bad start, man it's gonna take a
whole heck of a lot to change those thoughts and
change those opinions about the guy. I'm probably no win
for Anthony Gargano. It's the Fellas here on Fox Sports Radio.
The other football headline that has really caught my attention.
(02:11:09):
This college football alliance that's set to be announced, maybe
as soon as this week. So there is an alliance.
It sounds like Survivor. It's sounds so ridiculous. There's an
alliance between the Big ten, A, C C, and PAC twelve.
What does that mean exactly? We don't know. There's an
(02:11:31):
athletic director that says, is that about philosophy, governance, scheduling?
It could be all those things. Cool. Well, we'll wait
for that formal announcement to figure out what this actually is.
(02:11:53):
What is it? The other thing to keep in mind is, yes,
it could lead to some lucrative TV games. We don't
know if it's these three conferences just scheduling each other
exclusively when it comes to their nonconference schedule. How's that
(02:12:14):
gonna work? Is this just us and maybe a game
not including the SEC. We don't know what this actually is,
but there might not be agreement with all the schools
in these various leagues of how to execute this. There
isn't agreement with schools in the same conference on this thing.
(02:12:37):
So there are a lot of a CC schools that
play SEC squads. They've had long standing rivalries, and there
is one a C c athletic director that said, no
one is tearing up future scheduling contracts yet. Read the
fine print, i e. We like playing this SEC squad
(02:13:00):
that we have a yearly rivalry with. We don't want
that to change. So good lord, we're already off to
the start. We're one we don't exactly know what the
alliance is. We know what's going to involve scheduling to
some degree that's unknown at this stage. And we have
one a C c Athletic director like, ah, we're not
(02:13:23):
tearing up schedules just yet, which could mean we like
playing SEC schools. So we were already not on the
same page. This thing is schoofy from the beginning. This
reminds me of if you cut right to it, these
three conferences, they're basically saying back with the SEC, that's
(02:13:45):
what it's about. Oklahoma and Texas are joining the a
c C. So these other Power three Conferences. They're like, ah,
SEC and all their power, their sixteen teams and all
their prestige and all their money, and let's get together
and do our own. Yeah, let's do it. It reminds
me of arguing with a girlfriend and in the moment
(02:14:07):
being rebbed up and being like that's it's over, We're done,
And then you cool down a little bit and you're like,
I actually don't want that to be the case. I
like this girl, she's cool, Like she might drive me crazy,
but I want to break up altogether. Like that's what
it reminds me of this alliance. It's as if the
(02:14:27):
Big ten A c C in PAC twelve caught the
headlines of Oklahoma and Texas joining the SEC, and they're like,
you know what, heck with the SEC, it's over between us.
We don't need them. And then they're starting to come
to their senses, like, huh, when we're talking about lucrative
(02:14:47):
TV games, there's a lot of schools that they command
a lot of attention in the SEC. You know, USC
has played Alabama before, it's lucrative. You know, remember Oregon
played Auburn to begin the season a couple of years ago.
That's it's a big time matchup, you know, like you
(02:15:13):
just run down the list Georgia if you're playing them,
it's gonna be a big matchup. Playing Bama, You're playing LS, you,
you're playing Florida a lot of schools. So the thing's
just goofy to me. It really doesn't. It just sounds
like false bravado. We have an alliance. Cool, awesome way
(02:15:34):
to go, guys. He's just really just trying to combat
the sec And also the other part of this is
is this an attempt to prevent schools from your conferences
from joining other conferences right from getting poached? Is an
alliance really going to prevent that? That's my question. I
(02:15:57):
really do you think because of this alliance? This is
just you know, we're daft at each other up. This
is pinky swear to the nth degree until death do
us part. Baby, We're not budging. It's like Tom Petty,
you can stand me up at the gates of Hell,
but I won't join another conference. I won't back down. Really,
(02:16:17):
that's what I'm supposed to believe. Some other conference just
rolls out the red carpet. You'll get more money, you'll
have these advantages. You're stuck in a situation that isn't
as good for you and your current conference as you
could have in this conference. Am I supposed to believe
that that team will then say, yeah, I'd like to,
(02:16:38):
but we got this alliance thing going on. It's pretty solid,
you know. We h we pinky swore we. It was
a blood oath, like the hangover that galafnaks right, Like,
come on, I'm supposed to believe that this alliance is
going to prevent teams from joining other conference. This that's
(02:17:00):
just the strength is so strong. It almost reminds me
of Sorry for all the movie references, My mind is
going in various directions. It reminds me of the movie
Jerry McGuire, which I think was made in nineteen sixty two.
It's dated by this stage, but remember the father of
the quarterback who said, in my words, as good as
(02:17:21):
oak or something along those lines, and then he he
did the opposite. He told Jerry McGuire like, he's gonna
sign with you, and then he signed with a different agent.
That's how I feel about this alliance. This idea of oh,
our alliance is as solid as oak as if what
one of the teams from these three conferences. They're not
(02:17:43):
going to join any other conference just because of this alliance.
Yeah right, whatever. That's I'm curious to hear what this
announcement is going to be as early as next week.
I want to see how this is laid out. The
last thing I'll say about it is I love college football.
The landscape is so jacked up. It is so jacked up.
(02:18:07):
We have an alliance, Like really, that's what we're doing.
This is, by the way, so the SEC they've got
they will have sixteen teams when Texas and Oklahoma join.
We've got an alliance with three other power of five
schools conferences rather, and the Big Twelve is just the
(02:18:29):
odd conference out. It's like they're playing musical chairs and
the music stopped in the Big twelve is like, oh shoot,
no no chairs for us, Like I guess that's the
other thing, too, is how does this alliance work with
other teams joining conferences? Forget about just teams leaving and
(02:18:51):
getting poached. But what if what if the Big Ten
is like, hey, let's add a cup of teams. What
if the Pac twelve is like it's had a couple
of teams they have to run back, run that by
their alliance brethren, or this thing is stupid scoofy. I
know it's not the same thing for obvious reasons, but
(02:19:14):
just to wrap your mind around how goofy the landscape
of college football has been over just the last couple
of months, Texas and Oklahoma bolt for the SEC. Just
think about the NFL for a second, Just suspend reality
for a minute here. What if two teams from a
division were like, a, screw this division, We're joining another division.
(02:19:36):
It'd be like what what is that? And then to
take it a step further, there are three specific divisions
that are like, you know what, we're forming an alliance.
You'd be like, is this the sign of the apocalypse?
What is happening here? But in college football it's almost
like you're just scrolling through Twitter and alliance alright, cool?
(02:19:59):
Like realignment, all right, you'll have that. I guess crazy.
I think we're just desensitized. We're used to crazy. Now.
We're like having a crazy girlfriend where you just walk
home and something crazy happens and you're like, yeah, well
it's a Tuesday. What do you want me to tell
you? You You know, that's college football for it's crazy alright,
(02:20:22):
coming up next, what could have been for one franchise
and what is for another. I'm Brian no In for
Anthony Gargano. It's the Fellas here on Fox Sports Radio.
I'm Brian no In for Anthony Gargano. It's the Fellas
here on Fox Sports Radio. In less than ten minutes,
I'm gonna get to the most important question for NFL teams.
(02:20:45):
I thought I would look at the preseason schedule, and
I'm not breaking down preseason games, trust me, but I'll
look at each matchup and ask what's the most important
question each team during the season, right Like what could
swing things in a good way or a bad way
(02:21:07):
based on how it pans out. So we'll do that
in just under ten minutes. Here. I wanted to throw
this at you, so I saw the headline where Janice
Atta Kumbo he has bought an ownership steak in the
Milwaukee Brewers, and first, thanks, First, I think that's awesome.
(02:21:27):
He said, Milwaukee made me who I am today. This
is basically my home. So we've seen this with Aaron Rodgers.
Aaron Rodgers is a minority owner with the Milwaukee Bucks.
Also Patrick mahomes minor minority owner when it comes to
the Kansas City Royals, so like really like ingratiating yourself
(02:21:54):
when it comes to the area. But when you look
at Jannice, this is where my mind goes. I think
immediately of the Oklahoma City Thunder because think about this
with Kevin Durant when he was there with okay See
and Janice with the Milwaukee Bucks. Now, I'll preface this.
(02:22:17):
K D was a free agent. He left, that was
his choice. I don't like that he joined a seventy
three win team that beat him, But that's revisionist history.
I'm never gonna like it. You might like it great.
We view things differently. I didn't like who he left
four you know, I'm sure you've had that at some stage,
(02:22:39):
like Okay, you're gonna dump me, But for him really like,
you know that sort of thing. That's how I felt
with k D. But just think about it from this
perspective the range of how things have gone for both organization.
So Kevin Durant three un series lead against the Golden
(02:23:03):
State Warriors in the Western Conference Finals doesn't work out.
Clay Thompson goes ballistic in Game six, okay See drops
three games in a row, they're out of the playoffs.
K D leaves in the off season. By the way,
Oklahoma City, they have the lowest projected wind total according
(02:23:25):
to Caesar's Sports Book. That's right. We're back to an
eighty two game season full season. Oklahoma City's wind total
the betting odds UH twenty two and a half. Twenty
two and a half. So if you base it on
the betting odds, if that's you know, a general indication
(02:23:47):
where things might end up, Okay sees on track to
lose about sixty games this year. That's a a long
haul for them. And we know the deal with Sam Presty.
He's just like, oh, draft picks, yeah, well take him,
take take this player for draft picks. Give me, give me,
give me, give me, give me draft picks. Need draft picks,
(02:24:08):
more draft picks, yea, draft picks. So they're just tearing
it down. They're absolutely in tank mode. There's no doubt
about that. They've traded away everybody not named Shade, Gilgist,
Alexander for picks. You can give me picks. Great now,
some of that they had to because when k D left,
(02:24:28):
and then when Westbrook wanted out, when Paul George wanted out,
they had to do some of those moves, but they've
just kept on going down that road of let's just
completely take a stick of dynamite to this thing. So
that's where okay see is now. Compare that to Janice
at death to Kombo again just bought an an ownership
(02:24:50):
steak in the Milwaukee Brewers. He sticks around. Let's not
forget Janice got bang up a year ago in the bubble,
remember the ankle injury. Milwaukee gets swept by the heat.
He could have said, you know what, it's just not
(02:25:11):
really working out, so maybe I should move on, and
he didn't. He reupted. He signed a max contract extension
last December, and then you know what happened in the playoffs.
Janice balls out right got hurt the weird looking knee
(02:25:35):
injury against the Atlanta Hawks. Hyper extended and we're like,
did he tears a c L as he done for
not only this season but all of next season? Nope,
just hyper extended. This is only two games. Was unbelievable.
Finals m v P. Fifty points in the close out
Game six, extraordinary. So if you just think about those
(02:25:57):
two franchises, your honesty around Janice wins a championship. Oh,
by the way, Janice buys a ownership steak in the Brewers. Meanwhile,
k D on the doorstep of an NBA Finals appearance,
three one lead Western Conference Finals against the Warriors, it
goes south. K D bolts. Okay, so he's one of
(02:26:20):
the worst teams in basketball. They have the worst wind
total projected wind total according to Caesar's that's the difference
between those two franchises. And really, I'm not getting to
that just shows Janice is this and k D is that.
It's really not about that. It's just like looking at
(02:26:42):
the broad picture, you couldn't have more polar opposites. It's
like the the Bucks just they hit the jackpot. And okay, see,
I mean that came up snake guys. When k D left,
that wrecked the franchise. It began the wrecking ball to
(02:27:03):
the franchise. Paul George left the next season, right Like,
it's amazing how different those two scenarios have unfolded. All right,
I'm gonna get to questions for all these NFL teams
coming up next. Eisen Loewen tron he's in with us
to spin us around the sporting landscape. What's going on?
I good morning, Brian, and we have a big development
(02:27:24):
in Major League baseball to tell you about. Nathan Fennoe
of the Los Angeles Times reports that federal prosecutors planned
to present testimony from approximately five major league baseball players
alleging that they received oxy conan from a former Los
Angeles Angels PR employee named Eric Kay, who has charged
(02:27:45):
in connection with the twenty nineteen fatal overdose of picture
Tyler Skaggs. A court filing submitted by prosecutors late last
night did not name the players involved and did not
mention whether they played for the Angels or another major
league team. Ryan, wait till you hear this detail that
I'm about to relate to you. It's gonna knock your
socks off. Among other things, prosecutors say that K offered
(02:28:09):
Angels tickets and memorabilia to drug dealers. Their evidence includes
an exchange where Kay sent the following text message to
a drug dealer named Sharkey. K texted, quote, you have
a son. Could hook him up with a sign of
Mike Trockball for a trade if you want. Sharky responded,
(02:28:33):
and I quote and I swear I'm not making this up.
Sharky responded, quote, we dodge your fans, my boy l
O l unquote really wouldn't do business. How about that
the drug pusher with some MLB related standards. Unbelievable. You
(02:28:56):
could not make this up if you tried. You could
not make this up if went to a Hollywood scriptwriter
and tried. By the way, how's that for the Dodgers
two marketing campaign. We've got standards we do. And by
the way, in in my boy, boys spelled b O
(02:29:16):
I before the L O L. Hey, how's this for
a segue? Brian. Last night, the Dodgers exceed their wedding
streak to eight. I'm sure Sharky was pleased with that.
They beat the Mets three to two. Walker Bueler got
the win, improving the thirteen and two. The reeling San
Diego Padres lost for the eight time in nine games.
The Phillies beat him at Petco Park four to three.
(02:29:37):
Of The Phillies broke a four game losing streak. NFL
preseason on Friday night, the Chiefs wanted Arizona seventeen to ten.
Patrick Holmes played a lot for the preseason, ten out
of eighteen for seventy eight yards one interception. Kyler Murray
presided over three three and ounce for the Cardinals. He
completed just wanted four passes for two yards. Washington Football
team over the Bengals seventeen to thirteen. Bengals rookie receiver
(02:29:59):
Ja March with three drops in three targets. Brian, I'm
sure Sharky is thrilled to be part of the national
sports landscape. Back to you, Thank you, il funny stuff man.
That's crazy. Uh. You know, sometimes I I pause when
(02:30:19):
I think about diving into some of these stories because
I think that it's just gonna rub people the wrong way.
And I'm like, you know what if it does, it does.
But I'm gonna tell you what I think. I think.
First off, the Angels are absolutely screwed with what you're
talking about, Isaac. Where if there's an employee that's like, hey,
drug dealer, how about I give you Angels tickets and
(02:30:41):
you give me some some drugs here that I can
give to the players. Like, you're absolutely screwed. There's no
doubt about that. And as tragic as Tyler Skaggs passing is,
I hate that. I just I don't They're gonna win,
and that's probably why they're doing it, but I don't
think it should happen when they're they're suing the Angels
(02:31:01):
because a staffer provided the drugs. I look at it
like this, like it's Tyler Skaggs screwed up. I hate
that he's gone, and it's tragic. I hate that, but
it's let's not make it sound like Scaggs is like, hey,
I gotta get my rest and there was this staff
and that's like, do these trugs right now? Where else?
And he's like, I don't want to. And the staff
(02:31:22):
is like dom and he's like, okay, just don't hate me, Like, really,
let's be honest about this. That's not what happened. Scaggs
was looking to get high and he found someone to
provide them with drugs. I don't think that it makes
sense to win that lawsuit. They're going to watch. They will,
(02:31:44):
but I don't agree with it. I don't think that
should be the case. But with that to the side,
tragic that he has gone, absolutely tragic, and it's it's
gonna be hard for a judge to make that argument,
to say what I just said, to have a ruling
like that I think that's a proper ruling, but it's
too much harder ruling to make the much harder determination
(02:32:05):
to come to. All Right, I gotta get to these
NFL questions here. If we go rapid fire style, I'm
thinking about the most important question for these NFL teams.
So I'm looking at the slate of preseason games beginning today. Right,
we have three games that are already gone this week
in the preseason, so we're just looking forward now. So
(02:32:27):
I'll go rapid fire style. A lot of quarterback questions,
a lot of defensive questions. But to me, in my mind,
this is the most important thing. This is what hinges
on a team having a good season, maybe a great
season or a lackluster season, depending on how these questions
are answered. So if we started off like this Bills
(02:32:48):
at the Bears today, I think with Buffalo, can Josh
Allen run it back? He was sensational last year? Can
he have another studley season in year four? That's the
this question for them. For the Bears, can Justin Fields
cut it? In the NFL, it's all about justin fields?
(02:33:08):
How many starts does he get? You got a real
defense If he gets the bulk of the starts this
year and he hits the ground running boom, you're in
business in one. But does he at least show signs
that he could be a franchise quarterback going into the future.
Jets at the Packers, it's all about Zack Wilson with
the Jets, similar with Justin Fields. Does he look like
(02:33:29):
a guy who can cut it in the NFL? For
the Packers, did they have the chemistry? There's been another
offseason of total drama. Are they on the same page
when it comes to winning a Super Bowl? They can
have this function and win the division? But can you
have this function and win a title? That's the biggest
(02:33:51):
question for them. Atlanta at the Dolphins. Atlanta's defense, they
have Dean Peace. Huh een Peace comes over. He knows
how to scheme up defenses. Is he gonna make a
big enough difference for the Falcons to make legit noise
to not be a speed bump in that division? For
(02:34:11):
the Dolphins, all about to uh? Does ta take that
step forward? Ravens at the Panthers, because they're all games today.
For the Ravens, is the passing game good enough? That's
what it comes down to. Dead last in the NFL
last year and we cracked on to uh his yards
per game last year it was at one eight one
(02:34:31):
point four because the yards passing that to average per
game last year that's sad Lamar Jackson was two point
four yards better. He's at one eight three point eight
running that college offense. Like you gotta throw the ball,
you gotta lean on the passing attack too. Uh like
(02:34:52):
some degree, they don't do it enough. So have they
made enough progress? You bring in Bateman, you' raft him.
That's the question for the Ravens. The passing game good enough?
For the Panthers? Is this Sam Donald experiment actually going
to work out? I don't think it will. If it does,
you're in business. He's got legitimate weapons, got McCaffrey coming
(02:35:14):
back from injury. D J. Moore's legit receiver. Have you
got more to work with than you didn't gain green Land?
So is Darnald the guy? If he is, you got something?
All right? We got the Lions and the Steelers. The
biggest question for the Lions, will technical producer Chris have
me on his podcast? That is the biggest question for
(02:35:35):
the Lions by far right? Now? Nothing else matters? Uh? Well,
Dan Campbell make it through the year with the stress
and his his caffeine intake, with the coffee that he
drinks in the morning, Like will they have the number
one pick? Some questions for the Lions, Uh, the Steelers.
A lot of people look at Big Bend. I look
(02:35:55):
at the running game. Is the running game going to
be dramatically improved? And by the way, just getting to average?
If you were sixteenth and rushing, that would be a
dramatic improvement when you were dead last the past season.
Titans in Tampa, Titans is about their defense. Their defense
(02:36:16):
was not good enough last year. Can they make a
legitimate step forward? They bring in Bud Dupree. The Gdeveon
Clowney experiment didn't work, So they bring in bud Dupree
off that torn a c L. But he was see
a good pass rusher for the Steelers. Will see what
he has no longer opposite of t J. Watt and
off of torn a c L. But it's all about
(02:36:37):
the defense for the Titans and for Tampa. Can they
stay healthy? We know they've got the talent. They just
want a Super Bowl. They brought all the starters back.
Can they stay healthy? I'll leave you with this and
we'll pick it up on the other side. But this
might be a bad comparison. I don't think it is.
Consider this. You at Tampa play the deepest into the
(02:37:04):
season last year, right, I know, the Chiefs got to
the Super Bowl also, but the Tampa they were wild card.
They had to play in wild Card weekend, so they
had the longest season. And now that we have a
longer NFL regular season with the game added, does that
(02:37:24):
catch up with Tampa and the comparison is And this
might be is I'm taking some liberties here, but just
consider this. I know there are differences. Just look at
the similarities. Think about the NBA. Look at the Lakers
and look at the Miami Heat. They both had the
longest season last year, and they both flamed out immediately
(02:37:47):
in the NBA playoffs this past season. Injuries there was
a big reason why. But Miami got dusted, right, they
just got smacked by Milwaukee. And you had the Lakers,
Anthony Davis got banged up and all of a sudden,
that to one lead against Phoenix evaporated into thin air.
(02:38:09):
So I'm curious with Tampa. They don't have the shortened
offseason that you saw in the NBA, but you understand
where I'm coming from. Tampa played the deepest in the
last season. Another game added to this season, we'll see
if they can avoid the injury bug. But it's something
to keep in mind. I think that's the biggest question
for Tampa. Okay, we'll get to the other questions coming
(02:38:31):
up next, and I'll shoehorn as much random stuff as
I can, including a science project in high school that
my professor disliked greatly. I haven't paid that story off yet.
I'm Brian know It for Anthony Gargano. It is the
Fellas here on Fox Sports Radio. I'm Brian no It
for Anthony Gargano. It's the Fellas here on Fox Sports Radio.
(02:38:53):
Had a lot of fun today, good stuff. Now we
keep the energy going here. I'll go rapid fire. I
want to finish off my most important questions for the
NFL teams that have not played their preseason game yet
this week. So we've got all let's see, Oh gosh,
(02:39:13):
we got a lot of games. I'll go rapid fire.
Biggest questions remaining for these games. Uh, we've got seven games.
So Texans Cowboys for the Texans, what happens with the
Shawn Watson, Uh, what happens legally? What happens with trading him?
The Watson fiasco. That's the biggest question for that organization.
(02:39:34):
For the Cowboys, it's about their defense. Is their defense
much better this season? They were a train wreck last year.
Colts at Vikings that game is today. It's all about
Carson Wentz. Is see the guy in Indy? How healthy
will he be? Is there a resurgence for the Vikings?
You gotta see defensive improvement. You get the Neil Hunter back,
(02:39:55):
but do they have enough to take that step and
to dethrow in the Packers? But I think it starts
defensively with that happening. As far as their biggest question
Raiders and Rams. The Raiders defense has just been a
train wreck under John Gruden. How much better are they
this year? And is Stafford the difference maker? For the Rams?
(02:40:16):
We know about their defense. Stafford is an upgrade against
compared to Jared Goff. How much of an upgrade? That's
their biggest question. Broncos and Seahawks. For the Broncos, can
their defense carry their sad quarterback situation? Most important question
for the Seahawks, I think it's Can Jamal Adams stay healthy?
(02:40:38):
Seahawks still don't have a great pass for us. Jamal
Adams helps in that department, plays a physical style, was
banged up last year. Can he stay on the football field.
I think that's their biggest question Giants. At the Browns,
it's all about Daniel Jones. Is he your quarterback going forward?
That question needs to be answered this year and for
(02:40:58):
the Browns is Baker may feel a super Bowl caliber quarterback?
And also the follow up, does he need to be?
That's a legitimate question. You don't have to be led
by just studely superstar quarterback play. It helps, but if
you have serviceable play, You've had some players just catch
(02:41:21):
lightning in a bottle. Joe Flacco is not a super
Bowl caliber quarterback over the long haul, but he was
when it mattered most in the twenty twelve season. My
voice is going up the bay, Rick, but do you
remember this season? And also Nick Fools. I call him
fools because he fooled a lot of people into thinking
he was a franchise quarterback when he never was. But
(02:41:44):
he caught lightning in a bottle. The magic carpet, Ryan
Eagles win a super Bowl played very well against the
Vikings and the Patriots. Could Baker Mayfield be that guy?
I don't think he's a over the long haul, super
Bowl caliber quarterback like top three core her back, top
five QB, but he might not need to be. You've
(02:42:05):
got a lot of talent around you if you're serviceable.
Then I asked the biggest question. I was flipping stations.
I heard someone say Baker Mayfield is the top three
quarterback right now. They should have abandoned from the show immediately,
Niners Chargers. I think it's health and health. Can those
teams stay healthy? And finally, Jacksonville and the Saints, honest question,
(02:42:25):
who's more settled? Who's more unsettled at quarterback to start
the season. That's a legitimate question. And we know that
Trevor Lawrence is the best prospect in years. I think
he's gonna pay out, but Week one might sounds stupid.
Who's more unsettled? Is it the Jack's or is it
the Saints? Is it Trevor Lawrence first NFL start ever?
(02:42:49):
Or is it Jamis Winston who has been a turnover machine.
I still think it's the Saints that are more unsettled,
and it's one thing to start a new like Jacksonville is.
It's another thing to not have Drew Brees an all timer,
and then you're trying to figure it out with the
Jamis Taysom Hill two headed monster not the easiest thing.
(02:43:09):
There you go, rapid fire questions for you and now
two things real fast. So I had a science project
in high school. Chris mentioned that he did his thesis
on pro wrestling, which I think is outstanding. So, Chris,
I had a a science project, and uh, I from
South in Indiana. I went to the Notre Dame campus
(02:43:29):
and I went up to a bunch of football players
and I asked them to detail their diets. And my
science project was power Foods Equal Power Performance. And my
teacher was not a sports fan. He looked at me,
It's like, looks like you just got a bunch of autographs.
So I don't I really don't know why you did that.
(02:43:51):
There you go, there's it wasn't as successful as your
thesis over there, Chris. It doesn't sound like it. Yeah,
it was not. By the way, Um, we've got people
going on strike that supply Oreos chips, Ahoy and ritz crackers.
It should have happened a long time ago. They got
leverage right there, right we'll see you
