Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Oh what's going on? Everybody?
Hope you got your umbrella, your galoshes all set for
the Masters. We'll get to it in the rainy conditions.
We're broadcasting live from the tirac dot Com studios. Tirac
dot com. We'll help get you there an unmatched selection, fast,
free shipping, free road hazard protection, and over ten thousand
(00:23):
recommended installers. Tirac dot com the way tire buying should be.
I don't know about you, guys. I'm big Jimmy Hendricks fan,
and uh, Jimmy's got one of his old songs, still Raining,
still dreaming. It just reminds me of the Masters right now.
A little snippet from jim Hendrick. It is just nasty
right now. And it was so beautiful on Thursday and
(00:43):
for a little bit on Friday. It's like Indiana weather
over there at Augusta National. It's crazy right now. Yeah, yeah,
it's Um, it's that you got trees fallen over. Um,
you know it, look out. I mean the low price
on concessions aren't gonna save you this weekend. Yeah, it's
It's been an interesting tournament for so many different reasons.
(01:05):
Obviously the rain you get, we see that, you know,
year after year, it's, uh, it's the season for that
in Georgia, I suppose, because there have been a lot
of wet wild Masters. But then you know, you got
to live golfers infiltrating the field. You know, apparently am
a Phil Mickelson who refused to speak to anybody during
(01:28):
the champions dinner. Uh. You know, it's there's just a
little bit of a weird vibe um, at least from
the way the Masters is being covered. You know, I
always try to do this because especially having you know,
played football, you know, and the NFL is well covered.
(01:48):
Everybody knows there's i mean a million articles written every
day about you know, what team is going to draft who?
And you know, once a regular season kicks off, there's
a million articles about, Hey, a's wrong with the you know,
Houston offense. You know, why is the Jaguars defense letting
everyone down? I don't know why I'm picking the FC South,
(02:09):
but you understand what I'm saying. The point being like,
there's a lot of noise on the outside, it doesn't
always reflect exactly what's going on inside the ropes. So
I'm very curious, like what this Masters feels like for
the players, because for the fans it definitely feels different.
(02:31):
You have a Tiger Woods limping around, you have all
this hubbub about the live golfers, and for the media,
they're looking for storylines and they're pounding that narrative. I'm
very curious what the golfers think. I'm very curious if
they think it feels different. Yeah, it's been. I think
every Masters is unique because it kind of takes this
golf course kind of takes on a personality of its own. Unfortunately,
(02:53):
it has been a very hectic week. I think the
weather has dominated the storylines a little bit more than
some of the live stuff. I'll be honest. The live
stuff hasn't impacted me as much. Brooks Kepka. It's kind
of funny, actually, he said after the round yesterday. He said, well,
if you would have been this healthy, you know, maybe
(03:14):
I wouldn't have made the decision to leave the PGA
go to It would have been a tougher decision I
think is exactly what he said. And that's the most
interesting of the live headlines. And I guess this is
because he's having the best week of any of them.
But hey, Phil Nicholson's hanging around. I mean, he's in
the top ten right now. Is we're gonna eventually turn
the page to the third round. Tiger just birdied fifteen,
(03:38):
so he looks like he's going to make the cut,
and I know that was a very popular bet. Actually
more people were betting on him to miss the cut
this week, and it looks like he is going to
make the cut as long as he doesn't completely implode
over the final three holes. So we'll get Tiger for
the weekend. We'll get a live golfer leading the field
(03:59):
come Moving Day, which technically is today, but we've got
to finish up round two. And oh, by the way,
we've got John Ram, Colin Morrikala, Victor Hovlin, day Burn Speet, Michelson,
Nieman Rose. I mean, it is a stacked leaderboard at
the top, and usually no one comes from behind in
this tournament. I believe it's sixteen of the last seventeen
(04:21):
players or winners have been in the top within four
strokes of the lead after the first round. So right now,
those guys I just mentioned are probably one of those
guys is gonna win this thing, and if it is keepka.
I mean, the headlines are going to be outrageous come
Monday morning. I'll give you three brief snippets on three
(04:41):
different golfers. Let's get into it right over. I feel
like I need to tell us straighter, but this is radio.
Let's go with Tiger first off, Yeah, weap. I think
that Tiger, like you said, Jared birdieing fifteen, he's most
likely going to make the cut, which we hope he does.
The only thing that I think of is the lesser
(05:03):
of two evils. I would rather have Tiger Woods miss
the cut. If Tiger Woods making the cut is unable
to finish, because Tiger is he just thought of as
that warrior. He's cutting through everything Rocco mediate, and he's
got this knee injury, his knees falling apart, He's dragging
himself around and he's still winning. That's how I think
(05:25):
of him. I think of Tiger like Kobe at the
free throw line, shooting a foul shot with a torn achilles,
you know what I mean. So I really hope we
don't see Tiger if he makes the cut, have to
leave early. So my fingers are crossed that he makes
it and then finishes Phil Mickelson. It's weird that this
is a neutered version of Phil. This is like the passive, aggressive,
(05:47):
mute version of Phil Mickelson. It's just weird. Where he
was this gregarious guy, big personality. Now he's at the
Champions dinner, like you said, Rich, and he's not saying anything.
It's like he's bent over the war. Yeah, it's strange.
And finally Brooks Kepka the knee injury. So he hurt
(06:07):
his knee a little over two years ago in March
of twenty twenty one. The story is he slipped at
home in Florida, dislocated his right kneecap. He tried to
pop the kneecap back into place and shattered it. It's
this whole thing. His doctor said it was about probably
gonna be a year and a half before he finally
got right. And that's what he said. Right now, he
(06:28):
said he hasn't rediscovered anything. He just thinks he's healthy
and right now at minus twelve and leading the Masters.
Nice place to be because the last two years have
not been rosy. It's just been better as of late,
as he's starting to get back on track well and
in truth, and I agree with you. Those are three
of the best storylines going right now at the Masters.
(06:49):
And those would be the three exact ones I pick
um if if I were going to explain to anybody, Hey,
why should I care about golf this weekend? I find
those the most interesting too. What what what? I would what?
I would punctuate that sentence with is. And shame on
the PGA for making it so that these guys felt
(07:13):
like fleeing the number one golf tour in the world
to go to live golf. Because they make hundreds of millions,
if not billions of dollars over the spans of these careers.
And if you look at the purses that these golfers
can potentially make on tour versus the guaranteed salaries of say,
(07:38):
baseball players, I mean, Shohei Otani may sign a twelve year,
six hundred million dollars deal. Golf makes a lot of money, boys.
And the fact that they're not paying their golfers. The
fact that the Masters I mean, and don't get me wrong,
the Masters has no affiliation with the pg I understand that.
(07:58):
But the Masters is only for a fifteen million dollar perse.
Now that sounds like a lot of money to you
and me, but to a golfer who's doing this for
a living, for a golfer who you know, especially when
we're not talking about top fifty in the world, you know,
when we're talking about outside of the top fifty, when
we're talking about a guy who's just trying to make it,
man like, just trying to keep his card year after year,
(08:21):
and a lot of times not traveling with a caddie,
just signing a guy up to hold this bag, you know,
who's waiting in the parking lot. And that's a real
thing at these tournaments, and you know, you're paying for
your flights and you're staying in cheap hotels and you're
just trying to live that life. It's it's look, is
it tough. I mean, it's not as tough as digging
(08:42):
ditches for a living, but it's tough, you know when
you compare it to Major League Baseball, the NBA, even
the NFL, I mean, even without guaranteed contracts. In the NFL,
I mean, the compensation is at very least more consistent
at the bottom wrong of the ladder. You know. I
like the fact that these guys have to earn it.
(09:04):
I think that's kind of a cool, uh cool part
of golf is like, well, you're gonna get paid when
you're when you when you're good, you know, you finish
in the money. Like that's kind of a cool thing
about the sport. But the money should be better, and
that's these guys left because they're looking for that safety net.
And so shame on the PGA because I sort of
(09:26):
feel like greed and the fact that they didn't have
to because there was no natural competitor out there is
what prevented them from treating their golfers better. So at
the very first twist in the story, at the very
first opportunity for these golfers to abandon the PGA for
a more for a more um uh consistent paying league
(09:51):
to play for, they took it. And that's the reason
why where we are where we are right now, my guests,
is we get a little bit of kind of regression
back to the mean. I think the PGA will, and
they have a little bit up their stake in terms
of the payouts and in terms of what these players wanted.
(10:12):
For example, they had a meeting recently about certain events
are going to be bigger purses. They're going to up
the purses at certain events, and I'll be honest, I
kind of want to see Brooks kept goin this weekend,
I think, and maybe it's like the emoji with the
devil horns, like chaos, but also I want to see
this conversation continue, and I think the only way to
(10:38):
get out from this stigma because right now, you're right,
it was a little awkward going into the week because
there's not a lot of events. I think this is
one of the only ones besides a couple of the
other majors where the live golfers are allowed to play.
And I think it continues the conversation. I know there's
a lot of legal stuff going on behind the scenes.
I don't want to get into that. I think it's
more about at some point, and I think Brooks Kepka's
(11:01):
kind of the bannerman for this conversation. If you're successful
on the PGA Tour, why would you go to live
If the money is going to increase and they're going
to get promises from Jay Monahan, the commissioner of the tour,
that there's going to be more guaranteed purses at certain events,
and then you you taste that success of putting on
(11:24):
the green jacket, and you're even hearing Brooks say it
before he even puts on the green jacket, like, yeah,
if I was this healthy, I might not have made
this decision. Well you're saying in the new normal though,
right j Yeah, Like like, imagine we get someone that
defects back to the PGA Tour. Yeah, the conversation I
think takes a different turn, and I kind of hope
we address that. I kind of hope we get to
(11:45):
that point. So that's why I want to see Brooks
win this week, and I want to see where the
conversation goes from there. And you're like, oh, well, how
about are they going to make allow Brooks to come
back if he wants to? I certainly would if I
was Jay Monahan. But it just it just continues the conversation.
It raises awareness, creates more buzz around the game, and
I think those are all good things for golf. I
will say quickly, I can't help but comment on smoke
(12:08):
on the water, like maybe Iowa Sam comes back from
break with that, but you know, with the weather and
they're smoke on the water. I can't help but just
mentioned that real fast. But the non childish comment that
I would have right here is you know, building off
what you were both saying. But Richie brought it up
with LIV and BGA and it's funny where it reminds
(12:31):
me of San Diego actually where you know. San Diego
is like, no, we're not giving you money for a stadium,
and La is like we will, and San Diego the
Chargers are like, guess where we're going. You know. So
what Live was willing to do for a lot of
the golfers, the PGA Tour was unwilling And so it's
not a shocker to see where someone went. That's what
(12:52):
I do with dating. I'm like, you know, you might
not watch football and gamble with me, but she will,
So maybe you want to step it up a little
bit now. I'm just kidding, but if you have things
on your terms elsewhere, don't be shocked when someone goes elsewhere.
That's the way it goes. And I'll add this, I
like it better this way. You know, we're talking all
about the PGA Tour versus the Live guys and all
(13:14):
we gotta live guy on the leaderboard and leading the
whole thing, and brooks Kepka, this is straight out of
the Pro Wrestling Handbook. Oh, this is exactly what much Yeah,
nWo we just Dad Hendrix and the Wolfpacks. It's so
much better with a villain. This is literally right out
(13:35):
of the handbook. It's so much more interesting this way.
And more times than not, all I hear is belly
aching about it. This is actually a good thing for
entertainment purposes, Yes, no doubt, there is a little bit
of that to it. Like you know, there's a little
bit of Hey, if you're going to be a showman
and there's a rival circus in town, it's time to
step up your game. Brian, you're right, And you know
(13:58):
a lot of times people can't come place in and
when you know there there was, for example, at one
point buggy whip companies, right, you know, a buggy whip
was something that you used to smack a horace on
his behind to go faster when you're sitting there on
your carriage, right, And there was I'm sure a conversation
(14:22):
at one point between a father and a son was like,
what do you mean get involved in the automobile business.
Carriages are going to be the way of the future, son,
And then sure enough Henry Ford found a way to
mechanize everything and off to the races. Literally the rest
of society went and that buggy whip shop had to
(14:43):
close down. You know, this is what happens. Somebody comes
up with a better mousetrap eventually, and then it puts
your mousetrap out of business unless you make changes. And
so that's what Live Golf did. Now, I'm not saying
it's more popular. It's not. I'm not saying there's more interest.
There isn't. But they have a lot more money and
(15:04):
they're willing to spend it on high prize talent than
PGA was. Now will they keep doing that? Possibly? A
lot of people said, you know, for a million different
reasons the Live Golf even exists in the first place.
And again, without getting too deep into those storylines and
steering it back towards what you just said, competition isn't
(15:24):
the worst thing in the world, because I'm hoping, I'm
hoping the desired outcome for me is that it makes
golf better. It's a little weird right now, but hopefully
the outcome is it makes golf better. Yeah, and it's
again you're getting these the player impact bonuses is what
they're calling it next year eight designated events, limited fields,
(15:45):
no cuts, guaranteed money. And then the Impact program is
raising the scale of what the payouts are for a
lot of events, and it's going to be one hundred
million dollars next year, then fifty million a year after that.
They're getting bonuses for the FedEx cut. So again, it's
almost like you're negotiating to buy a car and you
go and you say, well, this is what I want
(16:07):
to pay for this car, and then the dealer says, well,
we're gonna give you this, and then you walk away
and you go to some other car dealership and that
car dealer that you originally went to spots you over
there and they're like, oh no, that was the guy
I was going to sell the car too. Well, hold on,
I'll give you a better deal. And it is kind
of playing one side off the other. So as much
as the LIV golf is like this enemy of the
(16:29):
state and comes to certain areas, I think there's a
lot If you ask a lot of players on tour
right now, I bet they're happy that the liv golf
thing happened because it's allowing the PGA to realize, well,
we better up our stake here or else. We're gonna
lose some of these guys, and I think over time
it'll regulate. I bet over time there are going to
be some LIV golf players that eventually come back to
(16:50):
the tour. I would not be surprised if that happened
at some point. Maybe it's brooks Kepka after this weekend.
Maybe he puts on the green jacket and turns to
Jim Nanson says, you know what, I made a mistake.
I want to come back. This is awesome. This is
exactly why I want to be a part of the
PG eight Tour. I don't think that's going to happen,
but it certainly could, and I do think we're gonna
get one. At some point, there's gonna be a player
(17:12):
that's gonna have success on the Lift Golf Tour and
he's gonna want to come back because the money gets
raised and this happens, and that will be that is
going to make the conversation become very interesting. I'm trying
to think of anybody from nWo who went back to
like just WWE or something, you know what I mean,
Like it definitely happened. Wrote that into this I'm sure

(19:20):
we got on at the Masters right now. It's crazy
weather over here. Look looks like the Midwest right now
instead of the South. Hey, how about this if we
turn our attention to the NFL. It was a big
deal with the Dolphins. Okay, the Dolphins don't have a
first round pick. It was taken away by Roger Goodell
in the NFL because of tampering. They had Tom Brady
(19:43):
allegedly on a yacht when he was still under contract.
They were talking to Sean Payton about maybe being the
next head coach. That's a no, no, no, not good
for the Dolphins, So they don't have a first round pick.
I loo our guy, Isaac Lohenkron. He started the top
of the hour update playing audio of Jets GM Joe Douglas.
(20:03):
He was at a wfa N event, legendary sports radio station.
This is yesterday, and listen to what he says about
Aaron Rodgers. Aaron Rodgers, He's gonna be here. It's straight
(20:25):
out of New York, right, Like, Hey, Hey, what's Rogers
gonna be here? Rogers He's gonna be here? Buck my
freaking words. Yeah. But is Aaron Rodgers under contract? Yeah?
The hell he is? Like how could he be at
an event saying he's gonna be a Jet? Like if
the Dolphins get hammered for what they did, how did
(20:46):
the Jets skate? Now this was just yesterday, so we
gotta give it a little bit of time. But do
you guys see it the same way? If it's tampering
for the Dolphins, how is this not tampering with the Jets.
That's fascinating. That would have not have been my thoughts
at all. I would have I would have thought, like,
how silly to make this comment. Yep, because what if
(21:09):
you don't get the deal done? Like, you know, what
if something falls through, like many times things do fall through,
especially when you're talking about a personality like Aaron Rodgers
or the NFL in general, chaos rains. So if this
deal doesn't happen. And by the way, as of today,
(21:31):
Aaron Rodgers is still a Packer. In fact, the only
former Packer you've signed is Tim Boyle or I should
say former Packer quarterback. They also got him a receiver too.
But you know, you catch my drift here, like this
is a problem outside of just maybe what they could
be fined for the Jets if they don't get this
(21:53):
done because the fan but it'll be an it'll be
open mutiny if Aaron Rodgers doesn't walk through the door.
The first thing I thought about when I heard the
clip was a clip that we've played on the show
many times, the Howard Dean scream were going to Iowa
at South Carolina. Like that's what I thought, Like rah,
like I like I was, And of course it was
(22:16):
arguably one of the funniest things that's ever happened in politics,
but also what happened to Howard Dean's presidential campaign after
that infamous scream. It went completely off the rails and
he was never heard of again. And now that's really
all exactly, that's all we know of Howard Dean is
the scream. That is the type of thing that can
(22:36):
take Joe Douglas's very exciting short tenure here with the
Jets as his GM for the last few years and
completely derail it if he goes on stage at Boomera
a Siason's event, the former Jets quarterback the w f
Ano's probably the most popular media personality in New York City,
perhaps right now, and he promises, like a politician would,
(22:59):
that Aaron Rodgers is coming to town, and then Aaron
Rodgers doesn't come to town. I can't think of another
thing that would completely derail what has been as a
Jets fan, a very exciting couple of years with this
new group, with this new nucleus. Now, obviously the quarterback situation,
as we've discussed on this show and many other shows,
(23:21):
the only thing that is separating the Jets from being
a playoff contender, but Now the pressure's on Joe because
if you don't pull this thing off, it's going to
be the wrath of Howard Dean. That's why I've called
the Jets the cowboys of the AFC, because they want
to win, right, but they also want the headlines. They
(23:42):
want to be featured on the back page of the
post or whatever, and this is a great example of it.
They're not negotiating behind closed doors, cards close to the chest,
you know, or the vest whichever you prefer, Chester or
vest on it either way. But yeah, they're not doing
They're negotiating publicly. It's like they're negotiating through the media.
(24:04):
Why in the world would you make it like that
unless you're exactly the spitting image of the Jets of
I'm sorry, the cowboys of the AFC. That's what they're
doing right here. There are plenty of other teams and
not everybody has to do it the same way. Could
you see the Patriots doing this? Could you see it
an event for a radio station it's the Sports Hub
(24:26):
or Wei and Belichick or somebody gets up there. He's
gotta be a Patriot. Yeah, no way. Could you see
the Cowboys doing it? Absolutely? The Jets are the Cowboys
of the AFC. Yeah, that's that's so true. I mean,
I mean this is just so loud and boisterous and
(24:48):
a little bit of you know, it does feel like um,
like a move Jerry Jones would pull like you know
what I mean, he would he would say this, uh,
live publicly an event because he is their acting general
manager by the way, that Dallas Cowboys, and he appears
on radio I'm pretty sure twice a week, even on
the off seasons. So that's absolutely something I could I
(25:12):
could see happening in Dallas. Now, look, the situation may
be as simple as this. The Jets may be asking
for something that the Packers can't give them until the
draft comes around, like a sliding pick, like one of
those things where you're gonna be compensated based on based
(25:33):
on draft picks this year that you're not going to use,
you know, things of that nature. So we may have
three more weeks of this and the Packers and the
Jets both know behind closed doors that this is going
to happen, but the rest of us are waiting for
it to happen. And I think also the NFL, if
you have a situation like this where it's just two
(25:56):
teams locked in on something. It's barely tampering because I
think it's almost like when when it's settled that Aaron
Rodgers wants to be a Jet, the New York Jets
wants Aaron to be a Jet, and the only thing
that's in the way at this point is just making
sure you hammer out the details of the trade. I
(26:19):
don't think it's as bad as if, you know, somehow
a team emerged out of the clear blue, like the
Houston Texans who are behind the scenes courting Lamar Jackson
trying to get him for a lower contract amount and
kind of blew by the normal parameters of how you're
(26:40):
allowed to talk to a player. That might not even
be a great example because he's under the non exclusive
franchise tag right now, but you get you get what
I'm saying. I don't think. I don't think this falls
in the same category as typical tampering does. Yeah, yeah,
I think it. Also, it's hard to claim tampering when
Aaron Rodgerson came out first and said he's going to
(27:02):
be a Jet somehow, that it's the same thing in
the NBA, Like you can't as a player just openly
recruit other players, and the same thing in the NFL.
But if Magic Johnson, who's representing the Lakers front office, says, hey,
Jannis is a hell of a player, it's a huge
deal and you get fined, it's so weird. But it's
not the same rules for players and front offices. It's weird.
(27:24):
And I think when you have the Jets in the
scenario that they are currently in, they are kind of
negotiating against themselves because it doesn't appear that there is
anyone else that is in the market for Aaron Rodgers.
Now Lamar Jackson, that's another story. We'll get to that
at some point today. But this Rogers thing, it's just
a saga. And as a Jet now I'm speaking now
(27:46):
as a Jets fan, I just want this to end
because now Joe Douglas has put this I don't want
to say this ultimatum, but it's almost it's almost as
if if the Jets don't get Aaron Rodgers, the entire
season and his entire campaign is a failure. Like, really,
he is Howard. He is the Howard Dean of the
New York Jets and of the NFL. Right now, he
has now put that evil on the entire franchise that
(28:09):
if they don't get Aaron Rodgers, what happened? Like, how
did this not? Exactly? It really is. It's becoming now
one of the more fascinating stories that I can recall
in terms of the quarterback carousel, because the quarterback literally
came out and said he wants to play for the Jets.
Yet that was like a month ago, Like, what's happening
right now? I know? It's strange, it really is, And
(28:31):
maybe it is what you're saying, Rich, it's the you know,
the equivalent of driving seventy in a sixty, you know,
where technically you are breaking the law, but more times
than now you're gonna get away with it. Maybe it's that,
or or the NFL could look at this and say, hey,
it's not just this specific situation. Would we want this
to ever become the norm? What if let's say, let's
(28:53):
go back to the Deshaun Watson sweepstakes, right, like, what
if before Deshaun Watson was a member of the Cleveland Browns,
the Browns had a radio get together and the GM
is like, he's gonna be a Brown and then he
ended up being a Brown Like that could be something
that they want to curttail over there. So maybe not
a first round pick. Let's get rid of a sixth,
(29:15):
maybe a fifth for the Jets over there with your GM,
Joe Douglas saying that call it his shot. We've got
I Lowe who always calls his shot here on the program,
Isaac Loew and Kron with the latest. Yeah, good morning, Fails.
We actually have some bonus audio from Joe Douglas here.
He is running down the Jets twenty twenty three schedule.
(29:35):
We're gonna California and Texas in New York, and we're
going to South Dakota and Oregon and Washington and Michigan.
South Dakota and Oregon. Must be for a preseason game anyway.
Round two has resumed at the Masters. Tiger Woods is
now even through seventeen holes of the second round. He
(29:57):
is at plus two overall, so he is just one
away from the cut line because he just bogeed this
seventeenth hole. So it'll all come down to the eighteenth
hole for Tiger to make the cut or miss the
cut again. As of right now, the projected cut line
is three overpar. He is at two overpar going in
to the final hole. He is fourteen shots behind Brooks Kepka.
(30:21):
Kepka has the lead at twelve under par overall. NBA.
Friday Night, the Los Angeles Lakers defeat the Phoenix Suns
one twenty one to one oh seven, keeping their hopes
of avoiding the play in tournament alive. The Chicago Bulls
on at Dallas one fifteen to one twelve, eliminating the
Mavericks and clinching a play in spot for the Oklahoma
City Thunder. Facing a must win game, the Mavericks held
(30:42):
out Kyrie Irving and four others, and then they pulled
Luca Donchich during the second quarter. Indeed, anyway, Golden State
what at Sacramento one nineteen to ninety seven. They can
avoid the play in tournament with a win Sunday at
Portland in their regular season finale. Finally, in baseball, Friday night,
the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Angels in Anaheim four
(31:03):
to three on Bobaschev's three one home run in the
seventh inning. The Angels became the first major league team
to have a pair of former MVPs, and show Hey
Otani and Mike Trout each get extra base hits, but
have the rest of the team go hitless since the
Yankees did it with Mickey Mantle and Roger Marris in
(31:24):
nineteen sixty two. On that note, back to you guys,
thank you very much. Ilo. It is Fox Sports Saturday
right here on Fox Sports Radio, coming to you live
from the Tirak dot com studios. You know the Draft,
We're inching closer to it, and we'll have plenty of
draft stuff today. I just wanted to say quickly. There
was a report about the defensive tackle from Georgia, Jalen Carter,
(31:47):
and the team's eyeing Jalen Carter. There are many, but
this article pointed out three that the specific teams Seahawks, Bears,
and Eagles. And I just I thought about the latter
team right there. The Eagles. You think about Philly and
they've got the tenth overall pick. It was a trade
(32:07):
from last year with the Saints, so the Eagles have
the tenth overall pick, and I just thought to myself,
there's so much talk about who moves up for a quarterback?
Does Indianapolis move up from four to three? Does another
team like the Raiders, did they move up from seven
to three or it's all about quarterbacks. I'm curious if
a team like the Eagles, if they make a power
(32:28):
play move, if they make an aggressive move. They were
just in the Super Bowl, did they move up for
a player like Jalen Carter, Because there's gonna be movement
for players that are not quarterbacks, and maybe it'll be
in the top ten. So something to keep your eye on.
If the Eagles get aggressive and say, let's get arguably
the best defensive player in this draft, something to keep
in mind as we inch closer to draft day. Yeah, yeah,
(32:51):
there's no question. I mean, you know, could we see
a team that's, you know, a playoff team potentially advanced
their draft stock to go up and improve their offense
or their defense, because doesn't that happen often? Like we
it's it's a team that we don't see coming that
makes a ton of sense to trade up and go
for a player, and and you know, since their roster
(33:15):
is somewhat set, they don't mind spending the draft capital
to try to improve. I mean, this is basically how
the Rams bought their Super Bowl by spending draft capital,
and now they were targeting free agents. But this can
easily happen in the drafts all takes his a general
manager who convinces the owner and the rest of his
(33:36):
staff or scouts kind of help whisper in the year.
The general manager to say, hey, listen, no, like, if
we get an opportunity, you know, to get this guy.
I don't think he's gonna fall to our pick, but
we gotta get him. We gotta get him. And if
you hear that enough, all of a sudden you go
it's like, well, yeah, you're damn right, we're the Buffalo
Bills and we need a receiver, you know, or whatever,
you know, like, and all of a sudden, somebody gets
(33:59):
gets all the way up from you know, the twenties
into the first ten picks to go after somebody. It
could be Jail and Carter. I mean, he is one
of those. He is one of those prospects, you know.
Just I'm not going to nerd out on a defensive
lineman because as an offensive lineman, this is like the
position we scout the most. But he is a prospect
(34:20):
that when you watch him play, you're just like, I mean,
there is close to no comparison. Everybody loves to pull
NFL comps, but he plays with such incredible power in
both the past and the run game. If that translates
to the NFL, like if he continues doing what he
did at the college level into the NFL, He's going
(34:43):
to be one of the most dominant performers in twenty
twenty three. I can promise you that it just matters.
All that really matters is if his game translates. We'll
find out. But yeah, I could see a team interested
making some serious moves for him. We'll see. All right,
We've got Rich Ornberger, Penn Stayed all American, Jared Smith,
(35:06):
Fox Sports Radio betting analyst on Brian No, you we
gotta get to live masters bets over here. Maybe Jared
will have something right up. You have ye have free reign.
I could be talking about Jalen Carter if you jump
in it. Hey, hey, hey, hey, guys, seventeen tall, here's
what you got in trouble here. I feel free to
do Tiger in the woods on eighteen and this could
(35:28):
be eighteen might remove him from the equation for the Again,
don't don't catch those masters cut make the cuts bets.
Just yeah, Tiger, you have to sweat it out. I'm
probably no coming up next. If you look up the
word disaster, you will see a picture of this team.
It's Fox Sports Saturday. Keep it locked right here on
Fox Sports Radio. Welcome back into the Fox Sports Saturday studios.
(35:55):
We're live from the tirect dot com studios. Hey, at
the end of your first year, Discover credit cards automatically
double all the cash back you've earned. That's right, everything
you earned doubled. Seriously, s terms and check it out
for yourself at discover dot com. Slash match. Okay, if
you look up the word disaster, you know what what
(36:17):
team picture you would see right there? It would be
a photo of the Dallas Mavericks right now is what
it would be. They are disastrous and what happened last
night was wild. So the MAVs they were facing elimination
from playoff contention. They had a game against the Bulls,
so their playoff lives are on the line. What did
they do? They decided to sit Luca don Chich shortly
(36:40):
after the first quarter. Luca only played thirteen minutes. No
Kyrie Irving. He has a foot injury, so they rested
Luca after basically a quarter. They lost to the Bulls
and now Dallas is eliminated. The reason they did this.
They're trying to keep their draft pick, which is a
top ten protected pick. They owed the Knicks from the
(37:01):
Porzingis deal, so they're like, look, maybe we make the
play in, maybe we scratch our way into the playoffs,
and then what I mean the handwritings on the wall,
Let's just try to keep our draft pick. That was
their thinking. So they lost to the Bulls. The MAVs, congratulations,
they're in sole possession of what tenth in the tank
(37:24):
standings if you will not tenth place in the West,
tenth in the overall tank standings, which is basically what
they did last night. In terms of their lottery odds,
they're in tenth, which gives them a better chance to
keep a top ten protected pick. It is a joke.
What's happening over there? Nine and seventeen since making the
(37:44):
trade for Kyrie Irving, they fell lack a rock like
Bob Seeger's old classic song. They were in fourth place
in the West before they traded for Kyrie, tumble all
the way to eleventh, and they're on the outside of
the playoffs looking in What a master the NBA is
turning into. From a lot of different standpoints, just the
(38:05):
way that the league is constructed. You have too many
games during the regular season. You have teams that are
willing to tank and do this even though they've created
a lottery. You have load management where your stars play
you know, twenty five percent or excuse me, seventy five
percent of their league games, some of them miss up
(38:26):
to a third. And it doesn't have much bearing because
your playoffs includes two thirds of the league's twenty teams
can get to a championship come your play in or
playoffs scenarios. I mean, it feels like every single solution
the NBA comes up with, they they are trying to
put bandages on gushing wounds, and what they really need
(38:47):
is a surgeon to come in and say, oh, no, no, no,
this was flawed from the start. We need to like
operate on this patient. Like we're beyond the stage of
just putting some gauze and saying, all right, all done.
You know this is it, But but I don't know
what how do you how do you fix it? At
this point? I don't know if you can. I don't
(39:08):
know if it can be fixed. I wonder if this
decision came from mister Cuban or not like I'm like
to me, I'm curious, like why you would show your
hand like that to your fan base so egregiously And
there's there's no excuse to I mean, I understand, oh future,
(39:28):
this future that you went and traded for Kyrie Irving.
You went and go and get Kyrie, or like to me,
when you go get a guy like Kyrie Irving, that's
your indication to your fan base that you are pushing
for a championship because the only reason you bring that
type of baggage onto your team is because the talent
is so strong that you're willing to outweigh all of
(39:51):
the negatives that come with bringing Kyrie Irving onto your team.
And let's be honest, there are a lot of distractions
when you bring him onto your team. I just it's
such an about face and such a short period of time,
guys to go from we want Kyrie Irving because we're
gonna make the playoffs and we're gonna make a run
at a championship with that duo of Don Chick and Kyrie.
And when they were both playing at a high level,
it was very impressive to watch, but they couldn't win,
(40:14):
and then all of a sudden, they just pulled the
plug in the middle. It's almost as if they pulled
the plug while the heart monitor was still beeping. And
that is remarkable to me that it happened in this
current era of social media because they were getting The
Mavericks got roasted yesterday on NBA Twitter, absolutely roasted, and
it made no sense. If you're gonna try to protect
(40:36):
this draft pick, why is Luca playing thirteen minutes? Why
are we doing like half in, half out? Like what's
going on over here? And also Kyrie Irving earlier in
the week, he was talking about being eleventh in the
West and his quote stood out. He said, I think
the fun part of it is we still have a
glimmer of hope, a glimmer of light at the end
(40:57):
of the tunnel of where we can still in. But
at the same time, I'm at peace with just our effort.
What is that We're just I'm happy with the effort,
even though we might not even make the play in
over here, it was just an outright joke what happened
with the Dallas Mavericks this season ever since the trade craziness?
(41:18):
All right, A lot more to get to. Coming up
next is this the truth or is it just a
tactic that's on the way, oh, hanging by a thread
after a bogie on eighteen, We'll get to that and
ball is on the brain as well. We're broadcasting live
from the tirerac dot Com studios. Ti irac dot com
will help get you there and unmatch selection, fast free shipping,
(41:40):
free road hazard protection, and over ten thousand recommended installers.
Tirerac dot com The way tire buying should be. Tiger
Woods bogie's on eighteen. He's at plus three two days
in projected cut line plus three. So man, like you said, Jared,
you're gonna have to sweat this out. Whether he had
(42:01):
Tiger making the cut or missing the cut, it's out
of his hands. It's that was probably one of the
most popular bets the entire tournament, you know. And also
as they're showing the leaderboard here, Rory McElroy, he's gonna
miss the cut. Some people liked him to win the
whole thing. He's at plus five. Rory McElroy has turned
(42:22):
into the chargers, you know what I mean, Like he's
from he's gone from the guy who lone Majors, who
was crushing it. Now he's the Chargers. Now, he's super talented.
You think he might do something big and he might
wet himself, right, Like, isn't that where he's at right now? Yeah,
except you gotta throw in injuries like you know, if
if if it were just like untimely injuries when you
(42:43):
absolutely need to have it. No, but that's a great
call on paper. Rory McElroy looks like he should be
the most dominant golfer on the planet, and he breaks
your heart. I mean, look, yeah, I pull for Roy McIlroy.
I think that he's I think that he's honest, and
I like honesty when you're talking uh sports, you know,
(43:05):
you know, you get somebody at the podium who says
what he truly feels. I think most of the time.
And uh and I and I think when you're young
and you are signed to you know, absurd endorsement contracts
and you still seem like like an alright, dude, Um, yeah,
you know you kind of got my vote. He just
(43:27):
can't put it all together and I don't know why
he just can't do it. And you know, we'll see,
we'll see if if come the end of his career,
we're talking about him the same way we talk about,
say of Phil Mickelson or or I mean, you know,
one of the greats. But right now he's just kind
of in that, you know, always cruising at the top
(43:48):
of the leaderboard. He's a top twenty finisher, he's just
not getting enough of those tour wins that you can
you can really say, well, yeah, geez, that justifies the
billion dollars he's made an endorsement so far. Yeah, he's
kind of a flag like a flag bearer for the game.
And I do think if he gets the Master's Green jacket,
(44:10):
that'll kind of complete the legacy because then he'll get
the Grand Slam, and I think that makes you a
Hall of Fame golfer. The irony with this, with this
Master's here, first of all, you can't ask for more
drama here. So here's the scenario for Tiger. There are
two players currently on the course, Justin Thomas song Jam
at two over par. They've got two JT's on seventeen,
(44:34):
song Jay's on sixteen. If one of them, one of
the two finishes at three over, then the cut line
will move to three and Tiger will make the cut.
The irony with that, Justin Thomas and Tiger Woods are
like best friends. Yeah, you think Tiger is gonna go
up to So Justin's in trouble on seventeen right now,
He's got to get up an end for par and
(44:56):
if he goes to three again, the cut line will
move and Tiger will make the cut. Do you think
Tiger's gonna walk over to seventeen or stand on the
eighteen green right now and just go, hey, Justin, Hey,
I need you. I need one Bogey, Budd, one Bogey
for you too. I mean, these guys are they were
one of them handed the tampon to the other one
a few weeks. These guys are like best friends. If
I'm Tiger Woods, I am going over to Justin Thomas's
(45:19):
little area wherever he's playing right now, and I am
hovering over jt Hey, just hey, I need one boy Budd. Well, well,
I was thinking the opposite. I was thinking, maybe he
goes to eighteen and noticeably limps around ye sending the
signal of like hey, bertie on out, so I don't
have too wants to be around for the weekend, guys,
(45:40):
come on. I would think so absolutely. But if his
body fails him as his body fails him. That's true.
It is. It's tough to watch Tig. It has been
tough to watch Tiger the last few weeks. I think
I think there's a very real possibility that Tiger feels
relieved right now. Like, don't get me wrong, I don't
think he's tanking like the Mavericks are or or you know,
(46:02):
but I don't think so. Yeah, but but but I
do get the I agree with what you just said, Jared. Like,
watching Tiger Woods this this tournament, it is, Yeah, he's
limping around pretty bad. And and I think I think
what we're seeing is what the rest of his life
is gonna look like. You know, we're talking about walking, guys.
(46:24):
You know, we're not talking about like, hey, you know,
he's lost the step. Uh you know, he's not quite
the running back he used to be. Or hey, geez,
you know he used to clock you know, triple digits
on the gun and now that fastballs down to ninety two.
Like we're talking about walking, like Tiger. Tiger Woods limps
(46:45):
when he walks, like he's never gonna be the same
human being after that car accident. And that's what's that's
what's so disheartening watching him golf. Is you realize the
ravages of his most recent injury are are not? I mean,
he can't overcome all of this now, it's really cool
to see him still be competitive. In fact, I would
(47:06):
argue it's it's possibly the most impressive thing he's ever
done to recover from that accident and still play competitive
golf with PGA Tour golfers like to be out there
walking around and actually be able to turn in a
respectable card, that's unbelievable. So he this may be a
(47:29):
career milestone that people are actually underrating, but they may
be saving Tiger Woods a little bit from himself if
if Thomas and Sun Jam end up turning in cards
and he gets knocked out of the weekend. Yeah, it's
a great point because a lot of time when we're
watching sports, we don't recalibrate our expectations, right, And you're right,
(47:51):
what Tiger is doing right now at this stage of
his career and life post car accident that shattered his leg.
It is i that he's even doing what he's doing.
We just talked about Rory McElroy. McElroy has he's two
strokes off of where Tiger ended up, Right, Like that
that's where Tiger is right now, and that is remarkable.
(48:12):
But a lot of people don't recalibrate, and they're just thinking,
this is Tiger Woods. What do you mean He's just
barely gonna make the cut. It's like, well, dude, this
is a much different time in his life than when
he was at his peak. But a lot of times
we make that mistake. We want to turn our attention
over here to ball because it was really interesting in
raven Land during the week where the GM Eric da Costa,
(48:34):
he participated in a draft luncheon and the name Lamar
Jackson was not to be undered. Okay, we're keeping it
on the draft. Let's not talk about Lamar. Here's a
little snippet of that. Yeah, so those are you know,
I understand the need to ask those kind of questions.
I think just out of respect for the process. This
is a draft launching and we're gonna try to keep
(48:54):
as much of this discussion as we can to the draft. Okay,
Lamar Jackson is off the table, all right. We're talking
about potential prospects here and they talk about this too,
the possibility of drafting a quarterback in round one. I
would say there's probably more than four guys that can
that can be significant quarterbacks in this league, in this
draft class, depending on the board, Jamison really does I mean,
(49:17):
I'd have to say yes, because we have quarterbacks in
our top thirty one. Okay, all right, so they've got
more than four quarterbacks rated as first round prospects, they
could maybe, depending on how the board falls, take a
quarterback in the first round. This is one it boils
down too, Fellas. Is this the truth or is this
(49:38):
a tactic because they're ongoing negotiations with Lamar Jackson, You
can call me naive. I think this is more of
the truth. I think it's less of a tactic. If
they're going the tactic route, this is a horrible method
because I can't imagine, Hey, hey, here's the plan. All right,
draft luncheon, we don't mention Lamar. Let's make them jealous
and then and then let's talk about other quarterbacks that
(50:01):
we might draft, and then he's gonna come running back
to us and he's gonna sign a deal because who
knows what's gonna happen. Like, if that's their plan, it's
the worst plan ever. So I do I don't think
they're that dumb. I think this is more the truth
than a tactic. What do you guys think about it?
I think two things. I think one and I was
chatting actually on Fox Sports Radio yesterday covering for Doug Gottlieb,
(50:24):
but um we were talking to Mark Dominick, who was
a former Bucks GM, and I asked him, Hey, you know,
how often are you intentionally trying to mislead people when
you're in the war room and you're talking to your
lead scouts and the other executives, Like, are you actively
making phone calls and talking to other teams and lying?
(50:47):
He was like, well, listen, I can't say that. I
never I never picked up the phone and and and
told U, you know, a half truth or a lie
to somebody to advance our position. He was like, my
job was to make the Bucks as good as I
possibly could, and if that meant, you know, misleading people,
(51:08):
that's what I was gonna do. He goes one of
the things, though, He's like, I preferred, if I were
going to do it anyway, I prefer to mislead people
or throw people off our scent by bringing in, you know,
certain players for workouts that we had absolutely zero interest
in ye, he goes, Look, we get thirty visits from prospects,
(51:30):
and the prospects we brought in he was like, largely
were prospects we were interested in. But occasionally when we're
picking high in the draft and we or if we
were picking low in the draft, He's like, it really
didn't matter. You know, if we wanted to throw people
off the scent, he would like, he said, we would
basically bring in players and waste their time, but it
(51:52):
would help improve the Buccaneers positioning to either negotiate things
or give them leverage when talking about trading their pick
down or whatever it may be. So, yeah, you know,
this might be a smoke screen Da Costa maybe trying
to create a little bit of interest. We'll see. The
(52:12):
truth is, everything's up in there in April, and you
can't trust what anybody's saying. So I don't know if
truth is a word I would attach to anything a
general manager utters during the month of April, because I
don't know if we can believe a single word any
of these guys are saying, because we really don't know
what the truth is. This was smoke screen week, guys,
(52:34):
This was the week, and I'll give you a few examples,
and actually I'll give you two really good examples, and
then I'll give you my first truth bomb of this
NFL draft. First of all, the NFL drafts my favorite
event to bet on. It's probably the most successful event
that I've had in my betting career. This week, it
seemed as though the quarterback situation started to percolate a
(52:56):
little bit. And what you just described, Rich, is exactly
what I'm seeing transpire in the market right now, and
it surrounds the Indianapolis Colts. This week, the Colts sent
their entire front office, Chris Ballard, Shane Steiken, Jim Bob Cooder,
the quarterback coach, the assistant GM, the guy that cleans
(53:20):
the uniforms in the locker room, to go see Stroud,
Young and Levis, three guys that they saw at the Combine,
that they worked out at the Combine, that they've talked to,
that they see. But yet this week we saw literally
like a convoy going to private workouts of those three quarterbacks.
(53:44):
And then also this week I received a text message
from a very reliable source that said the Colts are
going to be trading for Lamar Jackson. Now take that
for what it will. I think it's a possibility that
they do. And then I started to read a lot
of the clippings that said, well, the Colts are going
to check out all these quarterbacks this week. And I
put both of those strange, you know, lines of thinking together,
(54:07):
and I said, well, that makes a ton of sense.
The week that the Colts go and see everybody in
the rookie quarterback class is the same week that I
get my first little nugget of the draft. It says,
be interested in what the Colts are doing with Lamar Jackson.
There's some smoke there. And I started to put two
pieces together and I could see that scenario playing out
(54:29):
exactly all of a sudden, the Colts are going to
see all these quarterbacks and the Ravens. Because if you're
the Ravens and you're talking to the Colts about potentially
trading for Lamar Jackson and then you look and you
see the entire franchise is going to go check out
all these other quarterbacks this week, it puts a little
bit of pressure on you to maybe change the dynamics
of that trade. And I just I don't I like
(54:52):
to look at things that I haven't heard and haven't seen,
and right now things are very quiet about Lamar Jackson,
and I think we're gonna get a day or near
draft day trade for him, and the Colts to me,
are at the top of that list. So take that
for what it is, friends, you know, that's how I
see it playing out. Think about this too, is Let's
(55:13):
just say, for the sake of argument, the Ravens say, look, man,
it's just not in the cards for us to resign
Lamar Jackson. He's asking for too much. Let's actually draft
a quarterback in the first round, yet they still have Lamar. Like,
think about that scenario and if what you explained turns
out to be where the Colts are still in the
(55:35):
market for a quarterback, think about the contract that they
would offer Lamar right like. It would be basement bargain
Bryce right there, right because you know the Ravens aren't
going to match it, so it would just have to
be something that Lamar would be willing to accept. So
it's not gonna be cheap, cheap, cheap, cheap, but it's
(55:56):
gonna be cheaper. Knowing the Ravens have just drafted a
back and you're not negotiating against other teams be really interesting.
If that's the scenario we have, well I would I
would agree, but I will say this, you can be
a team and not spitefully so, but in all actuality,
just keep Lamar Jackson for another year, you know, through
(56:19):
the franchise tag, groom the quarterback you draft and then
let him walk in free agency, you know what I mean,
Like you can kind of have your cake and eat
it too if you're the Ravens. You know, because draft
picks are cheap. Let's be honest. Outside of the guaranteed
money you got to pay up front, the annual salary,
it doesn't it doesn't smack your cap the way it
(56:40):
would if you sign Lamar Jackson to a huge deal.
You have him under the franchise tag. So the Ravens
are kind of in the cap bird seed, and Eric
de Costa knows it, and so he's swinging his shellaly
around a little bit. Well, and that's that's assuming though,
that Lamar wants to play ball like that's you know,
that's he could absolutely hold out. Think about that, they
(57:01):
draft the quarterback that's about to take over the rain.
So not only does the Lamar not get his long
term deal, he's on the franchise tag and he's just
keeping the seat warm for the next guy. Oh baby, man,
we got drama. I made so, by the way, that
was the first bet that I made this week for
the draft, and it's eight to one at most sports
(57:24):
books the Ravens to draft their first draft pick this
year to be a quarterback. I think that's a fantastic
bet to make, um, and it's a pretty large wager
for me. It's one of the larger wagers that I'll
probably make on on Draft night. Because I know I
love you guys too, bro, and this is so I
(57:46):
haven't I've been sitting on this for two or three days.
I didn't want to message you guys about this because
I knew we were going to talk about it this
week and I wanted to get your genuine reactions to it.
But this is one of those events that it's there's
no analytics involved, there's no number grabbing. It's just you
have to try to put the puzzle pieces together. And
(58:06):
I think people that are good at betting the draft,
they obviously are tapped into some information, but they also
have this ability to kind of put these puzzle pieces together.
And I'm glad that we get to do it live
in living color on the show, because the more we're
talking about this, the more excited I am about this bet.
The Ravens are they have to draft a quarterback. They
(58:28):
don't have a choice. There's four quarterbacks that are potential
first round quarterbacks, maybe five. If you throw Hooker's name
into the mix. You have to get one of those
guys on your roster because you need depth at that position.
Even if Lamar Jackson comes back and plays for you,
how many games did he miss last year? There is
a need at that position. And I thought eight to
(58:49):
one for the Ravens first draft pick to be a
quarterback was a fantastic wager. It's my first and probably
going to be one of my biggest of Draft night. Well,
I hope it hits, are you man? I might? I might.
I don't know if it's still eight to one. That's
the only thing because it is, yeah, quick move the
(59:10):
market around here. We've got Jared Smith FSR betting analyst
Rich Ornberger, Penn State All American. I'm Brian though coming
up next. This man is quickly becoming the wild card
of the NFL Draft. It is Fox Sports Saturday, keep
it locked right here on Fox Sports Radio. Welcome back in.
It's Fox Sports Saturday Live from the tire Rack dot

wildcard of the NFL Draft depending on what you believe
(59:54):
and what you read. I believe it's Tennessee quarterback Hendon
Hooker because there's a little bit of buzz, little buzz
right now. This is Jesse Palmer, so from NFL Network.
He was on Steve Smith Seniors Cut to It podcast
and he's talking about Hendon Hooker, the Tennessee quarterback and
where a lot of teams have him rated on their
(01:00:15):
draft boards. Here's Jesse Palmer. Listen, you want you want
to hear what teams think of Hendon Hooker. Yes, there
are plenty of teams that have him above the bottom
two that you mentioned. There are plenty of teams that
have him third on their list. Right below those top
two in Bryce Young and c. J. Strout. Now there's
a gap. There's a pretty sizeable gas stop two. Yeah,
(01:00:37):
and then Anthony Richardson and Will Levis. Hey, Hendon Hooker
slides right in there. Okay, so he's got Hendon Hooker,
not him, Jesse Palmer, he's talking about teams around the
league have Hendon Hooker there. Now here's the deal, man.
I read something from a Nick Baumgardner from the Athletic
and he did a mock draft rounds one through three.
(01:00:59):
He's got Hendon hook going to the Titans at pick
number eighty one. Sorry, he's going to the Lions at
pick number eighty one. So there's a big gap right there,
right Like some teams have Hendon Hooker QB three and
there are mock drafts that have Hendon Hooker going in
the third round at pick number eighty one. You know,
so there's a big difference. What I would take from
(01:01:21):
this is that there's always a wild card player in
the NFL draft in terms of when he's selected. I
don't know that Hendon Hooker is going to turn into
Remember when Daniel Jones, the now Giants quarterback. I remember
Draft Day one of my friends said, hey, Giants at
number six, sounds like they might get Daniel Jones, and
(01:01:41):
it was like what it was just out of left field.
Nobody had that leading up to the draft or last
year Derek Stingley Junior just was the hot name and
goes number three overall as the LSU cornerback. I don't
know where Hendon Hooker goes, and that to me, in
terms of when he goes, I think that the biggest
wild card of this draft. Yeah, I'll say this, it
(01:02:04):
depends on what a general manager values. If you are
looking for a guy who has a certain level of maturity,
has been around the sport for a long time, has
really overcome some obstacles and has shown some growth. Henn
and Hooker might be might be a tree you want
(01:02:26):
to climb, because if you look at the forty nine ers,
the situation they had with Brock Purty towards the end
of their season. You know, mister irrelevant, last pick in
the draft, all that stuff. You know what he was
was a four year starter in college and to a
certain to a certain extent, I'm not saying it's everything. Obviously,
you need the arm strength and you need to be
(01:02:47):
a talented quarterback, athletically physically gifted, all those things. You
gotta check a lot of those boxes too, But sometimes
like age and composure and the amount of times that
you've you've been in those tough situations and the amount
of times you've seen those defenses, Like that stuff matters too,
(01:03:10):
you know, So Daniel Jones or Mitchell Trubisky, guys who
had very limited starting time in college before being drafted,
Like a lot of the learning has to be done
on the run in the NFL for guy like Hooker.
I mean, this is a more experienced guy. I think
he's twenty five years old. He's one of the older
draft prospects at his position. Very curious to see how
(01:03:33):
much general managers in front office is value, you know,
just his maturity, just the fact that he's been around
the game longer than some of these other guys. Overcoming
adversity too. And by the way, I'll get this in
a minute, but it looks like Tiger's gonna make the
cut both song JMTT Justin Thomas of Just Bogie. So
Tiger is safely inside the cut line. It looks like
we're going to get a red shirt on Sunday. But
(01:03:54):
back to Hendon Hooker, it is an interesting scenario because
what he offers, I think is something that those other
two guys that he's competing with, right, I don't think
he's any I don't think he's gonna get taken in
front of Stroud or Bryce Young. I think those guys,
as we've established, will likely be the top two picks
in the draft. I don't know what order yet, I
don't know if there's going to be a trade, but
(01:04:16):
I feel very confident in saying QB one, QB two.
With those first two picks, that's when things get interesting.
Because Rich mentioned the age. I think that's very important.
He offers something that the other guys don't, which is
a little more maturity and a little more polish on
his game. But then you have the injury and then
another thing that has I think made his draft stock
(01:04:38):
very uncertain. Tennessee played a very unique style of offense
and it's not an offense that you're going to see
replicated in the NFL, So that also is going to
take some time for him to get acclimated. So because
of the injury and because of the offense that he played,
it's going to be hard for a team to say, yep,
that's our guy. We're gonna bring him in day one
(01:04:59):
and be the starter. He needs a redshirt ear So
the fit the team that he goes to has to
make sense as well. Unlike near the top of the draft,
and even unlike the Baltimore Ravens situation where they need
if they trade Lamar Jackson, where they need a guy
to step in from day one and be able to play.
Handon Hooker needs a team that is willing to groom
(01:05:19):
him a little bit. They need a team that already
has an established starter. Let's say, I don't know, the
Las Vegas Raiders, where it's a shorter term situation with
Jimmy Garoppolo and they can bring in a guy like
Handon Hooker to groom him and make him a little
more polished, and then eventually in twenty twenty four he
takes the reins. The thing that's interesting here always tie
it back to the gambling markets. Guys. The quarterback, I mean,
(01:05:42):
come on, that's what we do. The quarterback draft number
in the first round is sitting at four and a half.
Right now, I can name four that are definitely going
to or at least probably going to be taken in
the first round. Hooker is kind of the wildcard here,
and I think where he gets drafted might set the
mark for those other two guys. And if he gets
(01:06:02):
drafted before Levis and Richardson, well then I think it's
fair to say that our draft grades on Levis and
Richardson were very wrong. Remember when he was Remember when
both those guys were being talked about to be the
number one picks in the draft. Yeah, we're a far
cry from that, huh. Yeah. And it is interesting, how
you know, there are a lot of teams that aren't
as patient drafting a quarterback and having him sit as
(01:06:27):
players that are non quarterbacks and having him said. I
just think of Jamison Williams, the wide receiver from Alabama
who went to the Lions. And don't get me wrong,
there are still quarterbacks who sit for a little while
Mahomes sat for his lucky year until the final game
of the season, So it does happen. But I think
that to your point, Jared, there are a lot more
(01:06:47):
teams that might look at Hendon Hooker and say, but
when's he gonna be ready? And yeah, you're thinking about
twenty twenty three, maybe too much, where a non quarterback
you might be more open the doors more open, where
you're like, this guy is a stud and eventually it's
going to be really, really good for us. I think
it differs between quarterbacks and non quarterbacks often, it really does. Yeah.
(01:07:09):
And one of the things that when you're evaluating the
quarterback position that is so important that a lot of
people don't talk about is the interview process. Like part
of the reason why guys will fire up the board
is because they absolutely amaze scouts and general managers and
position coaches and head coaches with their brain. You can
(01:07:31):
watch a guy play football, and let's put it this way,
the college game isn't exactly brain surgery. You know, you
you you have only a certain amount of things you
can get to with the transient group of players that
are coming through your program, and now with a lot
(01:07:51):
of players being you know, two and done at the
quarterback position, there's only so much you can get done.
You can only make the offense so advanced. You can
only get so much information into the head of your quarterback.
You don't want to paralyze a quarterback with overthinking things,
especially the more athletic he is so a lot of
(01:08:12):
times these guys are unfinished, unpolished gems heading into the NFL.
But there are occasions where a guy walks into a
room and his understanding of the nuance of football puts
him light years ahead of the other draft prospects. So
it just gets the wheels turning. It everybody starts looking
at a guy differently. They start saying, holy cow, like
(01:08:35):
this guy was like fourth on our board and we've
got a seriously consider moving him up to number two
because he's just so intelligent. Like So those are the
things that the general public we don't get any privy
to those conversations, but guys can blow people away in
these interviews, and that is such an important aspect of
(01:08:56):
the draft. Yeah, there's gonna be a guy that we
don't know. Ye like that, We like that, we expect
to go to a certain point and maybe it's one
of these. It is a fascinating draft. And I know
next year the quarterback situation as much, you know, has
a higher upside with Caleb Williams of course, but then
some other guys that are pretty up there as well.
But there is going to be one quarterback out of
(01:09:16):
this group. Of five, I would say that surprises us
to the upside, and there's probably going to be one
or two that surprised us to the downside. And because
of the price that the quarterback situation carries with it,
teams are more inclined to take those guys in the
first round. You get that extra year when you get
drafted in the first round, you get that fifth year,
(01:09:40):
and I think that's what makes teams incline, like the
Ravens did with it always comes back to the Ravens
and Lamar Jackson when they trade it up in the
first round, but take Lamar Jackson, well, they get that
extra fifth year control. Guess what year that control is
now hinging on this year and it's it's and you're
seeing the process play out where the Ravens actually do
have very interesting decision here. And if they do end
(01:10:03):
up trading for Lamar, which it appears that that's what
it's leaning towards right now, then I would expect them
to take one of these five guys, probably not the
top two, but definitely one of these other three. And
then they have to decide which of the three they
like best. And maybe it is maybe Hooker's the guy
who knows. But ah, I don't know if he's gonna
get taken as high as we think based off of
(01:10:25):
what I'm hearing, because of of where his injury situation is. Yeah. Yeah,
it's an interesting thing, it really is. Jamison Williams tore
his ACL in the National Championship Game and went as
a high pick to the Lions last year. What at
eleven twelve? I have to go back and look at it. Yeah, yeah,
somewhere in that range. So a quarterback in Hendon Hooker
(01:10:47):
who relies on athleticism but not like crazy crazy, and
he tore his ACL like months before. Yeah, yeah, like
the toward the end of the regular season right there.
All right, we've got Low Isaac Lowenkron with the latest
including I'm sure a Master's update, what's going on? I Low? Indeed,
(01:11:07):
it is now official, fellas Tiger Woods has made the
cut at the Masters for the twenty third consecutive year.
He finished the second round right at the three overpar
cut line. Brooks Kepka ends the second round with a
two shot lead to twelve under because John rom just
bogeed eighteen and his second round at ten under par
overall in the NFL notable words overnight from New York
(01:11:31):
Jets general manager Joe Douglas, who was appearing on stage
at a live event with Boomer asiasin and take this
for what you will, Rogers, He's gonna be here again.
(01:11:54):
Take that for what you will again. I'd like to
thank for that audio. Zach E six four nine three,
who is in the house and tweeted that audio. And
if you're wondering, Zach's Twitter bio describes his feed as
quote endless feed of sopranos, Springsteen, and Phish references and
(01:12:17):
that is fish p H I s H and reference
to the band nuts fish with an f terrible band,
terrible band, what what hate jam bands? Terrible thumbs down,
way down. You don't even like one of their songs?
No one, Oh, I feel like Ilo is about to
snap you in half like a pencil. I'm waiting for
(01:12:42):
a steel chair being death cage match between the turn
buckle back to you, all right? You know how this
promo titled jpinion even though it was wrong. By the way,
what like nineteen ninety nine me would have been thrilled
(01:13:04):
that I was standing up for fish anyway in the
NBA of those Lakers defeated the Phoenix Suns one twenty
one to one oh seven, keeping their hopes of avoiding
the play in tournament alive, and the Chicago Bulls wanted
Dallas one fifteen to one twelve, eliminating the Mavericks and
clinching a play in spot for the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Though you can make the argument that the Mavericks basically
(01:13:24):
eliminated themselves and a must win game. They held out
Kyrie Irving and four others and then pulled Luca don
Chich during the second quarter. Back to you guys, good stuff. Ilo,
It's Fox Sports Saturday here on Fox Sports Radio. Real quickly,
just on the Masters, as Ilo was talking about, Justin
Thomas had a put to make the cut, and it
(01:13:46):
was about I'm not great on judging distance, but it's
about six feet or so, not a gimme, and he
left it Jess short, little to the right, and he
just tapped it right away. He's like, yeah, he bogie
the last two holes in. Justin Thomas misses the cut.
Meanwhile John Ram who's in second place, his last four holes,
he goes Bertie Bogie, Bertie Bogie. Kind of weird. But
(01:14:08):
he's two strokes off the lead. That is John rom
But justin Thomas John rom As it's raining like crazy
at the Master's little drama at the end of their
rounds there. Yeah, And I don't know what the weather
forecast looks like for tomorrow and Augusta, but if you
get a decent amount of rain here, you could have
some low scores if the weather holds up tomorrow. Because
(01:14:30):
you soften the greens, you make it a little bit
easier to handle some of the undulation on these pots
and stick the green from the fairway on those approach shots.
So it's possible on our Master's Sunday when we're watching
these guys, these guys make their moves. I like, that's
(01:14:52):
one of my favorite parts about this this tournament is
the fact that you can see some really low scores
because it's the same course every year. The other majors,
the Open, the PGA Championship, the Open Championship over in Europe,
like it bounces from course to course to course, the
Masters is played out one course, so if you've been
there before, you know what it's going to look like
(01:15:13):
the next year. The year after they make changes, they
lengthen holes down and stuff like that. But you get
what I'm You get what I'm saying, Like, you get
used to playing this course and you could turn you
could card some low scores, especially if the course conditions
are good for you. Yeah, eight of the last ten
winners have played at least two prior masters. Yep, and
we haven't had a debutant winner since nineteen seventy nine.
(01:15:35):
Fuzzy Zeller had to get Fuzzy Zeller's name. Also, the
product always always, we always get them in once a week. Yeah,
I mean, it's basically, if you're listening at home, the
bingo card for Fuzzy Zeller, you can put that spot
now in. But the interesting thing, a lot of it
matters too when you play. For example, But guys that
had to play their second round and finish up this
morning in this brutal weather eighty eight over par compared
(01:15:56):
to eighteen overpar for the earlier tee times on Friday.
So sometimes it's just the luck of the draw. And
unfortunately Justin Thomas seems to be on the wrong side
of that cut. All right, We've got we've got two
guys here on the right side of the cut. That
would be Rich Ornberger, Penn State All American. Jared Smith, FSR,
betting analyst. I feel like I'm on the fringe line.
(01:16:18):
You know, I'm kind of like Tiger meeting Justin Thomas
to bogie eighteen to make the cut, you know, right like,
maybe that's what where I'm at. I'm probably no one
too kind. Hell love that, thank you, Jared. All right.
Coming up next, a player calls his shot years in advance.
This is Fox Sports Saturday right here on Fox Sports Radio.
(01:16:39):
Let's go Welcome back in. It's Fox Sports Saturday live

Progressive Insurance. Progressive makes bundling easy and affordable. Get a

(01:17:02):
I got dressed up. Saw BB King, seeing bb King
four times the late great. You know, way better than fish,
way better. I know, I know, I don't know it's
John Lee Hooker, but it just I'm talking about blues music.
I gave Iowa say, I'm a heart attack right there
of it talking about blues music in general. So John
Lee got me thinking about BB is about jazz. Yeah,
(01:17:24):
I just go to this great jazz club in New York.
Are you going? I got some love for jazz music.
Have you seen the movie Whip Last, Jared? Oh, yeah,
of course I've never. Oh, you gotta see it. Rich
It's outstanding Simmons. Is he is freaking season? Yes, he's
so great for that part. Okay, We've got a player
(01:17:47):
who called his shot years in advance. This is Tyreek Hill,
So the Dolphins wide receiver. He was a guest on UM. Well,
this is part of the Totally Offensive podcast. This is
Tyreek talking about his plans in the future. Let's check
this out here. I'm going for Tim Man. I'm gonna
finish out this contract with the Dolphins, man, and then
(01:18:07):
I'm gonna call it quits. You know, I want to
I want to go into the business side. I want to, like,
I want to do so many things in my life. Bro,
I really want to get into like the gaming space,
Like I really want to get huge and that. And
that's kind of what I'm doing right now. I'm using
my platform creating a gaming team, which isn't lunch yet.
The ship lunch by the end of this mind, so
running gaming, I'm gonna just sign like different content creators,
(01:18:27):
different athletes. Yeah, he was either on a podcast or
in Kansas City Radio. I'm not sure, but in any event,
you heard what he had to say right there. And look, man,
he would be thirty one years old if he does
call it quits at the end of the twenty twenty
five season, so that would be three seasons from now,
and I ask my takeaway is, Hey, if that's what
(01:18:49):
he ends up doing, God bless him. Hope he's successful
outside of football. I'm hoping that the Dolphins three pete
and then he walks off as the only yeah three
peatd in NFL history. That I'd be fine with that.
That'd be a good trade off right there. But look, man,
we'll see if he feels the same way three years
(01:19:09):
from now, because if he's still a special receiver, which
he most likely will be, that's a ton of cash
to walk away from. So again, more power to him
if he chooses to do that, But I don't know
if he's going to feel the same way three years
from now when he's facing all that cash. Potentially, Yeah,
I think there's a possibility that he's being one hundred
(01:19:30):
percent truthful right now in the moment that he really
does feel like thirty or thirty one is enough years
committing his life to football, which is a violent game,
and it can start taking things away from you. The
longer you play, the older you get playing it because
you accumulate injuries. And maybe he's more available than not,
(01:19:52):
and so a lot of people probably discount the wear
and tear that the game's doing to him. But every
time he gets tackled, every time he takes a collision.
You know, a lot of these guys play through concussions
that you'll never hear about because it's it's the reality
of football. It's a concussive Sportum. Yeah, I bet you
(01:20:13):
there is. There is some truth to what he's saying.
You know, I'm a fan of this. I like good editing.
I like movies that are short, especially when they leave
you wanting more. I like, um, I like it when
pros do this with their careers too. Like I think
Tom Brady probably spent one too many years at the party.
I think we're seeing maybe some of the same with
(01:20:35):
Aaron Rodgers. We'll see how it looks an act too
with the Jets, But I appreciate good editing and Tyreek
Hill is already Hall of Fame or what else does
he have to prove? Maybe he wins another Super Bowl
with a different franchise. We'll see how the Miami Dolphins
look this year. But I like this. I like the
fact that he could, he could call a shot and
ride off into the sunset. A rich man and a
(01:20:58):
great football player. Yeah. I love this new era of
football that we're in where these players are a lot
more open about how they feel and what their plans are.
Right twenty years ago, we don't hear these stories because
of all the platforms that are available for these guys. Now,
like Aaron Rodgers on Pat McAfee, the Kelsey's have their
own podcast, we get a glimpse of actually who these
(01:21:19):
players are as individuals. Right, rich If you imagine you
had your own podcasts during your career, probably would have
been a bad thing. Probably. What it does is it
gives us and from the gambling space, from the fandom space,
we get to be attached to them a little more.
And I think it only makes the game more accessible
for the fans these days and for the Betters. No,
(01:21:41):
you're completely right. Think about the Players Tribune or just
going on Twitter, your own podcast, like, yeah, you know
these It used to be back in the day. It
was almost like like radio hosts, how you just had
to picture in your mind what they looked like. Is
just different now. So yeah, I totally hear you on that.
Coming up next, the three most interesting NFL teams and
(01:22:04):
the three least interesting NFL teams. That is on the way. Oh,
it's going on everybody. I hope you're enjoying your Saturday
morning over here. The Masters on the Mind. We got
ball on the brain always. We are broadcasting live from
the tirac dot com studios. Ti irac dot com will
help get you there, an unmatched selection, fast, free shipping,
free road hazard protection, and over ten thousand recommended installers.
(01:22:27):
Tirac dot com the way tire buying should be okay.
As Ilo mentioned, Tiger Woods makes the cut just barely. Yeah,
it's barely, but enough to make it for a twenty
third consecutive time at the Masters ties in all time record.
So he is in. So we get some drama going
on over here, and that's weird because we're gonna see
(01:22:49):
him a little bit later today, are we not? How
are they staggering this where? I mean today's the third round.
They were just finishing the second round here in the morning.
So man, we got remember like two a day practices
high school football. Is we got a two a day
for Tiger today? That is rough for him and his
bad leg. Yeah. Yeah. You know when you when you
(01:23:09):
start to look at some of these apps where you
can you can bet parlays or whatever you call fantasy golf, um,
you kind of feel like you're gonna take the over
on a lot of these these uh total total swings
he's gonna take to to get to the finish of
the third round because it's gonna be raining, the club
(01:23:31):
gets awfully heavy, You're gonna be slipping and sliding around
there walking the course. I mean, it's treacherous. It's treacherous
for like an average everyday golfer going out into the
rain to try to manage a course because it's it's
just not easy walking walking. You're you know, even if
(01:23:51):
you're not carrying your own bag, just walking that much.
Throw on top of it that this guy's leg has
been surgically repaired a year and a half ago, I
it's it's gonna be a hard round for tiger Wood,
It's gonna be a hard round for the whole field.
It's expected to rain all day long in Augusta. Yeah,
the weather. It went from spring in Georgia to the
(01:24:12):
devil went down to Georgia. The Charlie Williams band song
like just It's just an overnight just turned into this
just absolute, just firestorm of weather. And you're right, the
body of Tiger unfortunately at this stage of his career.
And I don't know what I would have done if
if I had a right leg that got collapsed by
a car accident and a left leg that's been operated
(01:24:35):
on a million times, because that's, you know, one of
his It's just it's remarkable how how he's been able
to persevere and how he made the cut twenty three
consecutive made cuts at Augusta and oh, by the way,
Freddie Couples, sixty three years old, also will be playing
the weekend at Augusta National. He beat out a bunch
(01:24:57):
of other golfers because he finished T forty in the
first two sounds and there was eighty eight guys in
the field, So I guess eighty seven if you if
you count, or eighty six if you count the two
withdrawals that we have with Kevin no Wills Al Tour.
So you got Freddy Couples and Tiger Woods combined age
of over one hundred playing the weekend the Gusta National
should be fun times. Absolutely. Now, speaking of fun times,
(01:25:19):
so you've probably heard the four NFL teams that are
eligible for hard knocks this year, where it's the Jets,
the Bears, the Saints, and the Washington Commanders. And of
that list, assuming Aaron Rodgers goes to the Jets, of
the Jets have to be the most interesting. Now, if
we spend this thing forward, when I thought we would do, guys,
(01:25:40):
we would compare lists. Who doesn't love comparing lists radio? Huh?
I love it? I sure do. So I was thinking
the top three most interesting teams the bottom three least
interesting teams. And the way I thought about this is
if this is in season, Okay, the schedule released, and
(01:26:00):
you're like, okay, Sunday night football, we've got team fill
in the blank. Who are you most interested to not
only see but also talk about? Right, whether you call
into sports radio or you go on your message board
or whatever, like, what is those teams like separating yourself
from your favorite team? What are the teams that you
are most entertained by? So I'll give my quick list
(01:26:23):
here real fast. Aaron notes three most interesting according to
no is Number one the Chiefs defending Champs Mahomes offense,
Andy Reid. You know all the credentials. I would put
them number one, especially the added layer of can they repeat?
But they bring superstar status. Number two, little bit of
(01:26:44):
a curveball. I'm gonna go Jets. I'm assuming that Aaron
Rodgers is going there something new, Aaron Rodgers in New
York City? How good are they? How is he adjusting?
Is the chemistry there? I think it's gonna be a
walking soap opera. You already have the GM Joe Douglas
calling his shot doing an event with WFA N said,
(01:27:06):
Aaron Rodgers gonna be here right like, I think that
would be a really compelling watch throughout the entire season.
Number three, I gotta go with the Cowboys. They're always interesting,
they play an exciting brand of football, they're relevant, they're good.
It's just a question of how good can they be?
But they're a walking side show with Jerry Jones, and
(01:27:26):
it's a soap opera. So I would say those are
the three teams I'm most interested in watching and also
talking about. All right, here are my three, and real quick,
they all have something very much so in common. I'll
start with the San Francisco forty nine ers. Oh, I mean,
what are they gonna do at quarterback? I mean Brock
Purty or Trey Lance. Jimmy Garoppolo is now a Raider.
(01:27:49):
It just feels like they've got a huge decision coming
down the pike, whether or not to trade Trey Lance,
whether or not Brock Purdy in act two of this
unbelievable a career so far that he's cobbled together after
being the last player picked in the NFL draft in
(01:28:09):
twenty twenty two, what happens his sophomore year. I'm so
interested in the San Francisco forty nine ers kind of
the same thing, except it's a year later in his career.
Trevor Lawrence with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Wow. AFC South doesn't
generate a lot of interest typically, but I am fascinated
to see what happens with him. I think he could
(01:28:30):
explode this year. He already really has. Last season was
pretty incredible, considering that Doug Peterson had to pick up
the pieces where urban Meyer left off a year prior
to his arriving on the scene in Jacksonville. So I'm
really curious how everything looks there. And then I'll give
you my Probably I would say this is my number
(01:28:51):
one or my one A behind the San Francisco forty
nine ers. The Denver Broncos, Russell Wilson. I mean, that
was ridiculous what we saw last year. Who could have
predicted that the Denver Broncos would have looked so hideous?
I mean, I look, they made a change at head coach.
(01:29:12):
It's a no nonsense change. Sean Payton talked about how
they're trimming a lot of fat around there. You know,
he's getting rid of you know, Russell Wilson's throw coach
and his mind coach, and he's like, I'm the coach.
You know, I'm the captain. Now he's taken over the ship.
We'll see what happens in this uh Peyton offense for
Russell Wilson. But I'm fascinated by the Denver Broncos. I
(01:29:35):
love those all of those those those choices the question
that I have, guys, is should I change because two
of them you guys already mentioned and oh, it's almost
like a It's almost like a when you go to
a museum, everyone interprets the painting in a different way. Yeah, right,
Like all three of us kind of have these very
unique perspectives on the game. But it's ironic that two
(01:29:56):
of the three teams that I had on my most
interesting you guys already talked about. I mean, I'll mention
them and then we can we can branch off. I
am I'm with you guys on the Niners. Rich, I'm Rich,
I'm really with you on the Niners. I think the
Niners are the most fascinating team in football every year
because their talent is overwhelmingly strong, but they just have
this quarterback situation that's always in flux. It was Jimmy
(01:30:18):
g Alex Smith and now it's the it's the Lance
stuff that we don't know with Purty. And they were
in the NFC Championship Game last year with Brock freaking Purty. Uh.
And we'll see what that develops into this year. I
had to pick the Jets. I mean, the Jets are
they are an enigma wrapped in a riddle, you've got
(01:30:39):
the g and with this, I didn't even realize the
Douglas stuff happened until we kind of started the show
and we were kind of looking at the rundown and everything.
But I'm glad that that story broke overnight because I
think it makes the Jets even more fascinating because you
literally had the GM doing pro cutting his own promos
for in w FA and radio events. It's it's it's nuts.
(01:31:04):
And then the Carolina Panthers were my third team. Guys,
they traded up for the first pick of the draft.
How can they not be the most interesting team on
this LIZT And obviously we don't know who they're gonna take,
but whoever they do take is going to have so
much pressure on him from day one because your team
traded up to get you. With that, I think it's
(01:31:24):
gonna be CJ. Strout, but there's a little Bryce Young
Buzz as well still in the market. And I think
with Frank Reich, you know, under the under the watchful eye,
now it's gonna be a very fascinating team. So I'll
give you nine Ers, Jets and Panthers is my three
most interesting. Okay, let's go three least interesting NFL teams.
So I'll start with Basically, think about this is thirtieth
(01:31:47):
out of all of the teams, so this is my
third least interesting team. I would go with the Titans.
I would go with Tennessee. I thought about a couple
other teams in the AFC South, not a very interesting division.
The Colts don't have much juice. The Texans don't either,
But both the Colts and Texans will most likely have
rookie quarterbacks, and that to me makes them a bit
(01:32:07):
more interesting than the Titans. You get air Tannehill. I
love watching Derek Henry, but collectively, if the Titans are
featured in primetime, you're like, Okay, it's gonna be smash mouth.
They're gonna play good defense, but it's probably not gonna
be that stylish or that entertaining. I would just put
the Titans there at third in terms of the bottom
three the least interesting teams number two like a second
(01:32:30):
to dead last. I'd go with the Arizona Cardinals. Kyler
Murray's gonna be hurt most of the season. I'm not
interested in watching Colt McCoy or talking about the Arizona Cardinals.
Like without Kyler, I'm out They're probably not gonna have
DeAndre Hopkins either. And my least interesting team in the NFL,
I would go with the Washington Commanders. The most interesting
thing I can say about them is they hired Eric
(01:32:52):
b Enemy. I'm not watching a team for their assistant
head coach, you know what I mean. Like, I'm not
gonna be talking about them because of the assistant. Most
likely I'm bored with them. I love some of their players.
Terry McLaurin is a baller as a wide receiver, but
Daniel Snyder. As soon as we could get rid of
this guy, I am so tired of talking about anything
(01:33:12):
related to Daniel Snyder. And that's a team in that
division that has easily the least juice. I think they're
the least compelling team in the entire league. Yeah, Terry
McLaurin is well on his way to being finished his
career in Andre Johnson territory, like where he never really
had a quarterback, unbelievable potential as a receiver and really
(01:33:33):
really is an extreme talent. But oh my goodness, I
agree with you on the Commanders. They make my list
as well, for many of the reasons you just mentioned.
I'm gonna give you two other teams that actually share
a division. I think this division is going to be trash.
I think it overwhelmingly has been trash for a long time.
(01:33:53):
Tom Brady really saved it. The NFC South stinks. Tampa
Bay is going to be a dumpster fire after Tom
Brady moves on. I think it's going to be one
of the biggest snooze fest you've ever seen. In fact,
last year it was. The only difference is when you
have a Hall of Fame quarterback. Everybody gave them a chance,
(01:34:15):
including myself, and it just sort of waiting. You were
waiting for the guest of honor to arrive all the
way to them the party, and they never showed up.
So Tampa Bay makes my list. And then the Atlanta Falcons.
Has there been a more anonymous team over the past
decade than the Atlanta Falcons? What are they doing down there? Like,
(01:34:36):
what exactly the hell are the Atlanta Falcons doing? I mean, defensively,
they do some nice things. Offensively, occasionally you're like, whoa, yeah,
Mariota that I guess, yeah, no, he could put it
together sometimes still or like, the best you could say
about them for most of the season is, man, you know, Atlanta,
(01:34:57):
they really fought hard and kept it close. What an
awful watch they are. I feel terrible for Atlanta fans.
I think they are going to turn in another snooze
fest of a season. So the Titans, I agree with
that they were one of the teams on my list.
It seems like we're all kind of an agreement that
Tennessee just is a kind of boring team, Like they're
(01:35:19):
just very blase. There's nothing really sexy about them. And
that's kind of the direction that I went with my
other two teams. And again it goes back to the
art Museum metaphor, like we were given this assignment to
pick our three most and least interesting teams, and it's
funny how we all interpreted in a little different way.
The other two teams are teams that have actually had
(01:35:40):
a lot of success. They were actually playoff teams last year.
But they're just they don't move the needle it all
for me anymore. And one of the reasons is because
Tom Brady just left, and it's the Bucks, Like, what
is Tampa Bay right now? Like, what are they going
to be next year. Could it be from how high
they ascended when they got Brady and it's going to
(01:36:00):
be the exact opposite descent now that Brady's gone. Because
Todd Bowls to me, is a head coach just does
not move the needle. I experienced him with the Jets
and he's just not one of those guys that inspires
a lot of confidence that the team is going to
be buttoned up in those little detail areas. And then
finally the Minnesota Vikings guys. The reason that I put
the Vikings on the list is it fair for me
(01:36:23):
to say that they were last year the worst thirteen
win team in the history of the NFL. Their defense
in the game against the Giants, the playoff game that
and you saw what happened to the Giants following week
against the Eagles. That was one of the worst performances
I've ever seen for a team that had thirteen wins
(01:36:44):
at a home game in the playoffs. The uninspired defensive scheme, tactics, personnel, whatever.
And Kirk Cousins to me is the most boring quarterback
I think perhaps in the league. Like you didn't like,
you didn't like the two yard passed at the tight
end on fourth or whatever it was. Now, No, especially
(01:37:05):
when I had Vikings playing three in that game, I
was not exactly how I wanted to see my gamble
day end there. But again, when I and there's a
lot of talent on this team, and I think there's
there's certainly upside. They played a division now without Aaron
Rodgers most likely, so that division will still be very
much there's to lose, perhaps, But man, oh man, I
just and when it comes to least interesting, is Kirk
(01:37:29):
cut right the most interesting man in the world? Remember
those those commercials? Yea, his Kirk Cousins the least interesting
man in the NFL. It's actually fair to say, considering
his contract where he's at. I don't know. If I
had an honorable mention, it probably would have gone to
the Minnesota Vikings. I agree with you, Like, if you
want to talk about anonymous, I mean, as talented as
(01:37:50):
a football team as they are, it is just a
little bit milktoast When you have Kirk Cousins as your
your fearless leader, it's just it's it's it's like, hey,
what do you like on your toast? Um? Nothing? Wait,
coming in say that? What we're doing well. Butter right,
you want but no, no, no, no, dry, Yeah it is.
(01:38:13):
You know it's interesting though too. With our least interesting teams,
there at least is something, maybe multiple things that are
interesting about them, but just collectively, right, Like Minnesota's got
Justin Jefferson, who's arguably the best receiver in football. I
mentioned Washington, Like Terry McLaurin is fantastic. If you look
at the Titans, Derrick Henry, like these teams that collectively
(01:38:36):
you mentioned Rich Atlanta, Drake London the wide receiver, Kyle
Pitt's the stud tight end. Like there are parts of
each of those teams that are compelling, it's just collectively
you'd have them at the bottom. It's a good problem
to have where your least compelling teams in the league
still have something entertaining about them. Yeah, you know, that
is absolutely true. That's what and that's what the NFL
(01:38:57):
does extremely well. Um with the draft and the way
this league is constructed. It gives everybody a chance to
get better faster. Now, there are a lot of franchises
that are misled by poor ownership or bad executives or
poor coaching or even players who don't live up to
expectations and so as a result, Yeah, fan bases who
(01:39:20):
are almost punished by these teams, and you know their
loyalty to them. But yeah, I mean the NFL storylines,
They just keep pumping them out and we keep coming
back for more. It's a behemoth. It absolutely in April, right,
and man, we don't stop talking about the NFL for
basically all twelve months. Can't stop, won't stop. That's how
(01:39:42):
we do it around here. Hey, We're brought to you

is with US Penn State, All American. Jared Smith FSR
betting analyst, I'm Brian No coming up next. One big
(01:40:05):
name is in, one is out, and another big name
might be on the move. A lot going on. We'll
do the three man weave here. It's Fox Sports Saturday
right here on Fox Sports Radio. Welcome back in. It's
Fox Sports Saturday Live from the tire Rack dot com studios.

(01:40:28):
everything you earned doubled. Seriously see terms and check it
out for yourself at discover dot com. Slash match. All right,
I'm gonna give you a combo pladder here NBA style hunt.
Three big names. One's in, one's out, one might be
on the move. So who's in? Lebron James Lakers are
in the play in. At worst, they have a shot
(01:40:49):
to move up to at least the six spot to
avoid the play in. But fifteen and seven the Lakers
are since the All Star Break best record in the
Western Conference. After a two and ten start. Here they
are and playing a lot better. The big name that's
out Zion Williamson of the Pelicans. He's still nursing a
hamstring injury. Reportedly he's going to miss the play in
(01:41:13):
tournament as he tries to get better in time for
the playoffs should they qualify. For that, twenty six point
seven rebounds and only twenty nine games this season, he's
still trying to get that hammy back in working order.
And then looking at the standing scrolling down, down down
that oh, the Dallas Mavericks who have been eliminated from
(01:41:33):
playoff contention. They fear that Luca don Chich could request
to trade. Now this would be following next season in
twenty four. They're fearing he might request a trade if
they don't greatly improve the team. He just completed the
first year of a five year extension to the tune
of two hundred and fifteen million dollars. So there you go,
(01:41:55):
Lebron in Zion out at least for the play in
and Luca possible out of Dallas altogether a year from now. Yeah,
you kind of got to do the thing that the
Milwaukee Bucks did. If you're the Dallas Mavericks, you got
to figure out how to appease your star, and it
did well for Milwaukee. They were able to keep you
honest there, Yeah, I look, the consideration is this, You
(01:42:21):
can't you can't just expect the star to stay put,
not in the NBA with the players having so much
power in that league, and it's rare in general, I
mean it's even happening in the NFL level. I think
gone are the days of a Tom Brady who's going
to take less and do more for an entire career
to build team success. I don't think it's necessarily because
(01:42:44):
athletes are selfish or that like there's a new breeding
ground of more selfish athletes that are leaving college. I
just think that potentially, the way the NBA is built,
it just lends to more player fluidity or I should say,
roster fluidity and player movement than other leagues. So that's
(01:43:07):
the most compelling storyline. I don't know if the Lakers
are going to be healthy enough to really cruise to
any sort of astounding finish on this season. If even
if they advance out of the play in into the playoff,
we'll see what happens, though. Yeah, that would just be
for ratings more than anything else. You know, getting Lebron
into the play in game again, you know, into the
(01:43:27):
actual playoffs and facing a Denver or Memphis or someone
like that, where you get this young roster for the
Grizzlies or this MVP candidate and Yokich going up against
le Bron James. I'm sure that would be great for
the ratings. The biggest story of those three Brian to
me is of course the Dallas Mavericks, because Luca don
Chick is one of those stars that if he does
get traded to a certain team, that team instantly overnight
(01:43:50):
becomes the favorite to win it all, right, depending on
which team it is, I guess. But when you have
a player like that that could become available, and it's wild,
I think in I think the NBA is the only
sport right where these types of players get traded, Like
Mike Trout's never getting traded in Major League Baseball, like
(01:44:10):
those types of players never, Like the best players don't
get traded in baseball. In the NFL, maybe a little
bit more because of the contract situation and the guaranteed
money that isn't there. But in the NBA, it seems
like every year there's a star that's on the block, right,
you know, Kevin Durant was a guy, Kyrie Irving, Like
it seems like every year James Harden. There's one of
these players that is a transcendent player in our current
(01:44:33):
iteration of the game that wants to be traded or
gets traded. It really is the wild wild West, and
the players have so much power that they could just
walk into the GM's office one day and said, I'm
not happy, I just want to be traded, Like it
is the only league that that happens. It's remarkable. Even
the Raven situation currently with Lamar Jackson, it is taking,
(01:44:57):
you know, teams moving heaven and Earth to try to
get him off the roster. The NBA, it seems like
it's just commonplace. Up James Harden walks into the Houston
Rockets GM office, he wants to get traded. He's on
the Brooklyn Nets a few weeks later. Like it's the
only sport where this actually takes place on a yearly basis.
It sounds like I'm completely disagreeing with you. I'm not.
It's just a subtle pushback where you'll see like a
(01:45:19):
one Soto end up with the pod Race. You see
a little bit maybe show Hey Otani. But you're completely
right in terms of how frequently it happens in the NBA,
it happens a lot. We just saw it with the
Nets with Kyrie Irving going elsewhere, KD going elsewhere, like
the MAVs. They're projecting to possibly be the new Nets.
(01:45:40):
It hasn't even been a year yet, Yeah, and they're
projecting to possibly being the new Nets where Kyrie goes
elsewhere and maybe Luca goes elsewhere. So you're right. The
frequency in the NBA unlike any other league. There's no
doubt in terms of stars, superstars saying I went out
of here, the one guy like Damian Lillard is staying
there in Portland, Like it's kind of just me sticking
(01:46:02):
with my team and being loyal over here where a
lot of the other superstars are going else. Loyalty Yeah, yeah,
a little bit, right, because like when you think about
Damian Lillard and you think about some of the other
stars that he could potentially pair up with, Yeah, you know,
you can make an argument, hey dame, what are you doing.
(01:46:22):
You know, there's a little bit of that because it's like, well,
you know, I get it, and I appreciate it, and
I do think it's probably better for sport overall. But
there's this other side of it where you actually kind
of as a fan, want to look out for the
player and the player's best interest, And I mean, he's
done way more for the Trailblazers than they've done for
(01:46:42):
him that I don't even think there's an argument to
be made there. So yeah, it's interesting. I'm torn on
the subject because as a former player in a different sport,
I love the availability for players to advance themselves, especially
from a monetary standpoint because the earning window is so short.
But it doesn't make the game any better. You know,
(01:47:04):
when people can't buy jerseys of their favorite players because
they don't know if they're going to play out there,
even their contract that they signed with the team, I
don't think that that boats well for the future of
the sport. I'm gonna give you some Damian Lillard freestyle
rap lyrics around the corner here, which we'll have some
fun with you freestyle. I'm out, Brian, no rap freesty.
(01:47:24):
You don't want to hear that at all. You know,
Fish's band is better than me freestyle, And I feel
like that's the smoothest transition to one Isaac Loencron, who
is fanning out for Fish over there. I love what
the latest? What's going on? Buddy? Coming up? We actually
do have a Fish update just for the three of you.
(01:47:45):
That's coming Marlins update or an actual fish like fish
with the common spelling phi s H. But we start
though with Round three of the Masters. It's teeing off
right now after the completed round two earlier this morning.
Tiger Woods may the cut at the Masters for the
twenty third consecutive year. He finished round two right at
the plus three cut line. Brooks Kepka ended the second
(01:48:08):
round with a two shot lead at twelve under John
rom bogeying the eighteenth hole to end his second round
at ten under par overall. In the NFL, interesting words
overnight from New York Jets general manager Joe Douglas, who
was appearing on stage at a live event with Boomer
asiasin take this for what you will, Rogers, He's gonna
(01:48:36):
be again, Take that for what you will. In the
NBA on Friday night, the Los Angeles Lakers defeat of
the Phoenix Suns one twenty one to one oh seven,
keeping their hopes of avoiding the play in tournament alive,
while Chicago one at Dallas one fifteen to one twelve,
(01:48:56):
eliminating the Mavericks and clinching a play in spot for
the Oklahoma Almas City Thunder. Finally, here's the music update
for you, guys. I'm reading this directly off the wire.
Flox Sports radio anchor Isaac Loencron has officially retracted as
earlier statement that Fish was a good band. Oh A
great song that Loencron thought was by Fish was actually
(01:49:20):
by blur Isaac Loan. Wow, Isaac Locron regrets the error
back to you. So you you hated me for a
good fifteen minutes until you googled it and you're like, oh,
actually no, I'm with no one. This one fish thinks
it was a good thirty minutes that I hated you,
and I only hated you for thirty minutes because it's
(01:49:41):
so much fun and so endearing. Yeah, well, I'm glad
you set the record straight right there. That's fantastic. I
was hoping for the deathcage match and now we're not
going to get him canceled. Guys, I think both of
us would tap out at the same time when we
heard the bell. Yeah, there's nothing as unattractive as two
(01:50:02):
sports media members fighting. And by the way, I'll bet
all of us have stories of sports media members getting
into quote unquote physical confrontations. I r L before everyone
started hiding behind social media. Yeah, no doubt about it. Hey,
it's Fox Sports Saturday here on Fox Sports Radio. So
(01:50:23):
now we get to a freestyle rap lyrics that portion
of the show. Over here, we're mentioning the possibility the
fear that the Dallas Mavericks have that Luca don Chich
could request a trade after the following season, and we
were just talking about superstars and how there's so much
movement in the NBA, yet somehow Damian Lillard stays put
(01:50:43):
in Portland for a long time. So he had a
freestyle rap this week, very nicely done. Did it to
a Meek Mill song Heaven or Hell? That was the
beat in the background. But this one little portion stood
out to me. He's talking about ring chasing, okay, and
so the lyric is plotting on a ring. They say,
I should do the Lakers. F that loyal stuff. What
(01:51:06):
if Reggie just left the Pacers? Okay, So that's what
he's saying, is what if Reggie left there. Here's the
thing that I find interesting. There are four different roads
here for other NBA players, and Dame is gonna be
on one of these four roads. Okay. Ideally it's the
Dirk Navitsky road, where you stay with one organization the
(01:51:29):
whole time. Dame would want that and win a championship.
That's ideal. Now it gets interesting. There's the Reggie Miller path.
He just shouted out, Reggie, stay with one organization the
whole time. You never win a championship. There's the KG
road Kevin Garnett, he was with Minnesota for a long time, leaves,
goes to Boston, wins a championship, adored in both markets. Right,
(01:51:52):
that's a pretty good road. Then there's the Karl Malone road,
we'll call it. Was with Utah for a long long time.
Ring Chase goes to the Lakers, gets close, doesn't win
a ring. So it's gonna play out one of those
four roads. Four Dame. Ideally it's Dirk, But if it's
any of the remaining three, what do you think is best? Right?
(01:52:14):
Is it? And he might look at this differently. I
think it's KG for sure, but he might look at
staying and doing the Reggie path being loyal one organization.
You came close, but you're synonymous with that organization. I
wonder if he looks at that as being better than
leaving and winning a ring elsewhere. Like Kevin Garnett, I
don't know the answer to that. Well, you know, I mean,
(01:52:35):
obviously whatever's best for the player and helps him sleep
at night is what I hope for, because regret is
one of the worst things to experience in life. Right,
look him back on something and saying shoulda, could have wouda.
So I hope that whatever decision he makes, he's good
with it, and I mean now and into the future.
And that's very difficult to have that perspective while you're
(01:52:56):
still playing. But hopefully it's the case whatever decisions. And
also you gotta remember opportunity is important too. He's not cheap,
you know, Dame's got one of the I mean, they
call him Dame Dollar for a reason. It's not just
because he's a great rapper. Yeah, you know, I mean,
this is one of the highest paid players in the
league right now, and you know, it's gonna be difficult
(01:53:18):
to onboard that salary for a lot of teams. So
it limits it limits the U the range of team
that that will be willing to do a deal. I
don't know, man, I look at it. You know, if
Kevin Durant jump ship on on Oklahoma City I never
won a championship, we would probably be talking about Kevin
(01:53:40):
Durant very differently now than we currently do. Yeah, you know,
it's you know, you can you can stain your legacy
pretty quickly by chasing rings and and there. It's also
a little bit you know, it's I wouldn't say it's
a look down on anymore, but there still is that
stigma attached to it. So maybe that's something that that
(01:54:02):
Damian Lillard's also looking to avoid being stigmatized. Well, here's
the difference between Reggie Miller with the Pacers and Damian
Lillard with the Blazers. On that Reggie Miller Pacers team,
that the Great Pacers teams, you had Jalen Rose, you
had Chris Paullen, you had Antonio Davis, you had Rick Smiths,
you had Dale Davis, Mark Jackson. I mean, you had
(01:54:24):
guys that are borderline Hall of famers, I think Mark Jo.
I don't know if any competitive yeah, all star type players.
So here's the Blazers depth chart with the Dame, Lillard,
Anthony Simon, Shaden, Sharp, Matisse Stybel, Jeremy Grant, use of Nurkic.
I mean there's a difference there, Guys. The Blazers have
(01:54:47):
no chance to compete with or without Dame. They are
not a team that is going to compete. If they
have Dame, they have a chance to compete if they
can bring in guys on the caliber that I just
mentioned Jalen Roe. This is a Chris Mullins and Antonio Davis.
I mean, but if they don't, you're kind of wasting
the prime years of your career here in Portland. And
(01:55:09):
I agree that there is a loyalty to staying and
sticking things out that will gain him respect at the
end of the day. But what's more important to you?
And that's only a personal question that Damian and other
players across the league can answer. We've seen guys like
Kevin Durant show you what's important to them. They want
to go chase the ring, and that's what they've done.
(01:55:31):
I respect Damian Lillard for sticking it out, and if
he stays true to those words, good for him. But
if I was in his shoes, I wouldn't make that decision.
I'd go chase the ring. Yeah, yeah, I hear you.
And what's interesting is that sometimes we get it twisted
where what we would want in that position is what
Dame should want, right like, I think sometimes we confuse
(01:55:55):
those two things. I think there's a difference between it
comes down to being to yourself and also being true
to your legacy. Where some look at it and say
I'm gonna be true to myself. I want to remain
in Portland. That's what Dame's saying right now. He's not
looking at it as much as legacy. There are other
players that say, being true to my legacy is actually
being true to myself. It can be looked at very,
(01:56:17):
very differently. I just hope he doesn't look back on
it and regret it. If he stays with Portland and
you rattled off the roster and you're battling for like
the seventh spot in the West in the play in
and I don't I hope he doesn't look back and say, yeah,
maybe I should have done it differently, But I respect
him for being loyal. All right, We've got Rich Ornberger,
Penn State All American here today. We've got Jared Smith FSR,
(01:56:40):
betting analyst. I'm Brian No. Still a lot to do

playoff lives hanging in the balance, that Frank Neela Kina
hits the top of the backboard with the game tying
three point attempt as the MAVs lose to the Bulls
Luca play It's only thirteen minutes. They're basically tanking, trying
to keep their top ten protected pick that they would
(01:58:07):
owe the Knicks in that porzingis deal so Kyrie foot
injury he was out. Luke only plays thirteen minutes, the
MAVs lose and they are eliminated from the playoffs. That
it's pretty fitting the way the season went for Dallas.
I think, yeah, yeah, it's it's It's kind of one
of those things where you know their their season is
(01:58:29):
going to be the off season. Whatever happens from now
until tip off, you know, for the twenty three twenty
four season is going to be more important than anything
that could have even happened in the postseason really if
you think about it, because I don't think they would
have lasted very long. So yeah, the season officially has
begun for the Mavericks. Yes, Scott to play this thing

(01:59:32):
There's a guy named Jimmy Young. Jimmy Young, he goes
on an offshore book Bovada, and he risks twenty five
dollars on the Sacramento Kings to win the Pacific Division. Okay,
three hundred to one odds. He wins his bet. He's
gonna get paid seventy five hundred dollars okay, the catches.
(01:59:52):
Bovada got back to him and said, hey, you place
the wager using bonus funds that expired already. So our
recommendation is for the future, check the expiration date on
the bonus and place bets within that time frame. So
Jimmy Young went to Twitter belly aching about it, and
(02:00:12):
there's an update. Jimmy Young wrote that Bovada has reached
out and it looks like this was a customer service error.
My bet has been paid in fold, thanks again to
all the wink wink quotations. Customer service error. Is Bovada
coming to their senses like, oh, shoot, this could cost
us current business and future business if we don't pay
(02:00:34):
this guy. So they finally wised up. There, Wow, smart
choice goodness gracious. Sometimes you gotta lose a battle to
win a war man. That's exactly it, right there, all right,
roundtable gambling talk. We'll hand the baton to you, Jared Smith.
