Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports where welcome.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Welcome, welcome. It is Fox Football Saturday. And my voice
just cracked, but I'm calmon vitally back with you again.
Speaker 3 (00:12):
Test, I'm into the excitement there, Thank you very much.
And that wonderful voice you hear is Spectrum Sports. Is
Nikki Kay, who was joining me today to talk everything football. Mickey,
how are we been a long time?
Speaker 4 (00:24):
My girl?
Speaker 5 (00:25):
Honestly, honestly, the vibes are immaculate. We've got football on
four screens here. Oh yeah, you know, an exciting week
two in the NFL ahead of us. I just forgot
how good it feels to have appointment football viewing. You know,
last week I was able to go out and actually
watch it from a bar and then, like you know,
I'm like, wait Monday to Thursday. That's too long.
Speaker 2 (00:49):
It really is, like you realize, like how spoiled you
get so quickly because you're like, wait, Football's on on Saturday,
Football's on Sunday, fastballs on on Monday, and then you
have to wait Tuesday, Wednesday, all the way till and
but it is it's.
Speaker 4 (01:02):
Such a it, It honestly is such a wonderful community thing.
Speaker 5 (01:06):
Right for me.
Speaker 2 (01:07):
Like I live in Chicago and it's one of those
things where any bar you walk past, there are so
many people in there rooting for so many different teams,
especially like on a college football Saturday, where you just
you see so many different jerseys and tea and T
shirts and like different crowds are going off on this
TV and like you hear cheers coming there, Like what's
like it is just it brings us all together.
Speaker 5 (01:29):
Wait, sorry, yeah, well, and I was watching Big Noon
Kickoff this morning, which I have just loved the way
they have elevated that show. And the weather in you know,
from the Northwestern game. Yeah, was crazy because in the
morning you're watching time lapses of lightning and stuff, and
then it was like what a ball mey seventy degrees
at Oh, it's perfect.
Speaker 4 (01:51):
It was perfect.
Speaker 2 (01:51):
We had some storms here in the morning that we
woke up to and then everything cleared out. It's sunny,
it's seventy five. It could not be better weather. And
then Northwestern it plays on the lake because they're in
their practice stadium while the new Ryan Field is being built,
and they like you get the breeze coming off the water.
I mean it is really like an idyllic place other
than the fact I think it holds like.
Speaker 4 (02:12):
Twelve thousand, twelve thousand people, but.
Speaker 5 (02:15):
The views, I mean talk about a way to experience football.
But I was really impressed to with the way the
Northwestern student body showed up for you know, for their
football team. Obviously Oregon, I mean, we can get to
this later. I think they could be a championship favorite
for me right now.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
Yeah, I mean, they like they just flashed. Like Dan
Lanning in his career at Oregon has like the highest
point differential of like any coach and however belong. I mean,
like Oregon isn't just going out and winning, They're dominating.
But I mean that's kind of as we expect in
Northwestern is like the little brother of the Big Ten,
which is so weird that Organ's now part of.
Speaker 5 (02:53):
But well, right, don't get me started on Ucling. I know,
every game this season, no, it is bad, Carmen, it's
so bad, and.
Speaker 4 (03:05):
Then it is.
Speaker 5 (03:06):
But no, I mean, so if Oregon does win this year,
does that mean they have to have one game every
year where the mascot gets beheaded?
Speaker 4 (03:15):
I don't know, I don't know, maybe like the juju
now that could be that, that could be the tradition.
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (03:21):
Oregon has to go up against the SEC and actually
be worth something for the right that the showing from Usela,
maybe at the showing from my alma bout in Northwestern
may be bad. But we have a great show for you.
We're talking college football, we're talking NFL. We're gonna be
joined by the Athletics Dave Hellman at the bottom of
the hour, and we also have NFL on Fox play
by Play Extraordinaire and part time DJ and DJ is
(03:44):
DJA Adam Amen joining us an hour two from Pittsburgh
ahead of Seahawks Steelers. And if you haven't already, be

Hit the up icon and common away. Let us know
whose takes you like, even those takes that you don't like,
(04:05):
which are won't be either of ours obviously, Well.
Speaker 5 (04:07):
You can disagree. It's kind of fun. Let's agree to disagree, right,
create a.
Speaker 2 (04:11):
Disagree but just search Box Sports Radio on YouTube and subscribe. Okay,
Nikki so I talked a little bit of college football.
We're gonna get to more college football, but I need
to talk about the NFL, and I need to talk
about a team that has been my personal boogeyman growing.
Speaker 5 (04:29):
Up, Rent Free Live, rent Free.
Speaker 2 (04:32):
In the heads of everyone here in Chicago. Since you know,
working in this industry growing up, I you know, cover
the whole league, I have to be impartial, and I
have actually grown to very much love the organization. But
Packers Commanders Thursday Night. It's funny because we're getting good
games and like good matchups on Thursday Night, but inevitably,
(04:54):
go figure guys on three days rest. Uh, the games
don't end up actually being that good, Like they're usually
pretty either lopsided or there's just not a whole lot
of juice because these guys are so run down. But
even saying that the green Bay Packers look dominant, they
absolutely dominant through two weeks of the season.
Speaker 5 (05:15):
It is shocking. I mean it's not really shocking. A
lot of people were, you know, speculating with the addition
of Micah Parsons, like, just how talented could this team
the Green Bay team, which they didn't. They didn't beat
any playoff caliber teams a season ago, and now they're
all of a sudden front runner as a super Bowl favorite,
which is it's crazy, but I mean this defense, I
(05:38):
think by the end of the season could be among
the best in the league. And then you know, obviously
featuring the name Parsons, it's gonna be scary, and isn't
isn't there something? Jordan Love is the same age that
both Farv and Rogers won their Super Bowls with in
Green Bay?
Speaker 4 (05:58):
Oh yeah, ah, I guess. I mean that was earlier
on in their careers.
Speaker 5 (06:02):
So I think that's the boogeyman. Love is older and yeah, yeah,
yeah that he's the same age that both Farv and
Rogers won their Super Bowls in Green Bay. And I
just I know this. I mean, I feel I feel
for Bears fans.
Speaker 4 (06:20):
How did you that's okay? Delusion?
Speaker 5 (06:22):
Are we going to yeah? Are we going to talk
a little bit about the Monday Night?
Speaker 4 (06:26):
You're real? We need too? Do we need to?
Speaker 5 (06:28):
And I don't know, do we want to talk about
Jamie McCarthy? I mean, well, yeah, well but let's continue
the Green Bay conversation.
Speaker 2 (06:34):
For me, I need I need, I need to wax
poetting a little bit about the Green Bay Packers. The
twenty seven eighteen win over the Washington Commanders on Thursday
Night Football. Washington Commanders, who I mean took a lot
of people by surprise last year. A very good team,
very solid team. There are still a little more question
marks on that team than I would like, but they
have a very exciting quarterback. I love Jayden Daniels. Watched
Jayden fan a lot of Jade and Daniels. He It's
(06:58):
it's funny because I marrying into the LSU fan base
and so now these guys are my guys, and watching
every snap jay and Daniels took for the LSU Tigers
has been incredible, and then to see him translate very
quickly into the NFL. But what the Green Bay Packers
defense was able to do against him, I mean, seventeen
yards on scrambles, I believe seven scrambles seventeen yards that's
(07:22):
all he got. And I'm thinking about the Green Bay
Packers and that defense with Michael Parsons in a limited
role by the way, because he's still not all the
way healthy with that back issue, and I'm looking at
them and I'm like, huh, who's the Green Bay Packers'
biggest like, who's our biggest competitor when it comes to
(07:42):
our competition when it comes to the NFC for getting
to the Super Bowl. Who is the stiffest competition that
they are going to face? And it's the Philadelphia Eagles.
Who the Philadelphia Eagles have as quarterback Jalen Hurts. What
does Jalen Hurts do? Really well? He runs, he scrambles,
They have designed runs for him. If the Packers can
contain these dual threat quarterbacks that are extremely athletic, that
(08:03):
know how to use their legs, and they can get
to them, not just wait for them, but like the
speed with which the Green Bay defensive line got to
Jaden Daniels in that Thursday night game again on short
rest that if I'm Philadelphia, I am terrified me I'm
being put on notice, I really am, because that is
something that you are going to need to contend with
(08:25):
if you want to make it to the Super Bowl
and get out of the NFC. And it's something the
Green Bay Packers seem to be built for.
Speaker 5 (08:31):
And Jayden Daniels looked pedestrian, honestly, and I think that
might have been the worst game we've seen him play right,
which isn't fair to say in his young in his
second season here, but that is a testament to what
you were talking about with this with this Packers defense,
And I mean Micah Parsons was facing double teams and
(08:53):
I think even a triple team on one play and
it's still having an effect. I think he had a
half second, three quarterback kids something like that. But yeah,
you're and like you said, even still still injured or
not at full capacity, I should say, and he.
Speaker 2 (09:08):
Is elevating those players around him. I mean, you look
at what Sean Gary is now able to do, what
Lucas van Ness is able to do, and DeVante Wyatt
I think has like the addition of Michael Parsons has
paid dividends in the way that I was talking to
somebody Andy Herman of Packagday this week, and in the
way that we talk about the elite quarterbacks elevating the
(09:29):
play of those around them defensively, that's Michael Parsons. Michael
Parsons has again, even in a limited role, right elevated
the play of those around him by you know, stealing
attention from the offense and from blockers and all that
other stuff, leaving these other guys with really good favorable
matchups and it's working, and just top to bottom.
Speaker 4 (09:49):
They're great.
Speaker 2 (09:50):
And indirectly this also allows for Jordan Love to continue
playing with absolute reckless abandon When he decides to throw
the football, it usually works for him. He is almost
anticipatory to a fault where he is throwing to a
spot where you don't see a single Green and gold
or in last in Thursday's case, white receiver anywhere near it.
(10:11):
And they come out of nowhere and the spot is
dead on and you have Jordan Love on those fadeaway
jumpers thrown off his back foot, and sometimes that can
lead him into trouble. But now you have a defense
that can insulate against that. And that's the biggest thing
with the Green Bay package.
Speaker 5 (10:25):
And no, I want to go back to what you're
saying about Parsons for a moment, because for as someone
who covers a lot of basketball, I see that effect,
you know, and players, as they you know, work their
way through four quarters of a game right and they learn.
The truly excellent players who get the most attention find
a way to use that attention. Those double teams and
(10:47):
the gravity it creates on them to elevate those around them,
so they could, you know, not have a lot of
field goal attempts and not have a lot of scoring.
And that's so as you're you know, laying out what
Parsons has in terms of, you know, the power to
shift and elevate everyone around him, that is that's so true,
(11:07):
and I can't I'm I'm excited to watch the battles
because the NFC is well, the NFC West in particular
is stacked, So it's it's gonna be fun watching some
of these conference and division matchups.
Speaker 4 (11:20):
Yeah, and the NFC North is too.
Speaker 2 (11:22):
I mean that this is one of the divisions where
like I've been asked all off season, like how do
I see this shaking out? And I couldn't tell anyone
because all of these teams are talented and you think,
you know, I will mention the Monday night game. I've
been a big believer in J. J. McCarthy pretty much
this whole time. Like I'm like, I know, he's green,
I know, whatever, But the sports system he has around him,
(11:42):
the quarterback coach he has in Kevin O'Connell and Josh
McCown is in that room, the faith that the Minnesota
Vikings showed that they had in him by not getting
anyone of consequence to be that bridge when and then
and letting Sam Darnold walk instead of re signing him.
That to me singled like, no, they're riding with JJ,
(12:03):
and they have reason to do so. And the rest
of the team top to bottom is so talented and
has set JJ McCarthy up so well that even with
the learning curve, he's he looks great.
Speaker 4 (12:16):
You saw it in that game.
Speaker 2 (12:17):
That game was a microcosm of everything because he started
out so poorly and everything the Bears defense was doing
against him, he was getting miserable, making him miserable, keeping
him under pressure. And then he he kept fighting and
he fought back, and not only fought back, but then
ends up winning the game for the Minnesota Vikings after
(12:38):
the Bears had dominated for basically three quarters. And having
that kind of like that response to adversity and that
resilience is some one of those intangibles that tells me, like,
you're going to be just fine.
Speaker 4 (12:52):
Carman.
Speaker 5 (12:52):
I could not get enough of the locker room video
after it. Oh right, see coach getting you know, just
recognizing him him and not quitting and and I think
there's a story of him looking at his offensive lineman
or you know, everyone in the huddle and they're down
and he goes, tell me where, tell me where you'd
rather be right now than this moment. And I mean, honestly,
(13:14):
if they lose the game and it goes horribly, that's
that's that's a little bit of a posturing there. But
it didn't go horribly and he and the comeback did happen.
And I mean, the aura, the aura JJ has in
in his young, young, young career is I am hooked.
I was texting Tracy Sandler during the game being like,
(13:34):
I mean, like, oh, I get, I get what you
saw in JJ and Michigan up front, like a close
and personal that's incredible.
Speaker 2 (13:42):
Listen, Wins are not a quarterback stat Yeah, I'll repeat,
wins are not a quarterback set right right right. This
kid's a winner and that's all he's ever done. And
there's there's a mentality that comes along with that that
I think is going to serve him well and the Bears.
I think the Bears need patience. I've been preacing reaching
patients for the Bears this entire time. It's not gonna
(14:03):
look good.
Speaker 4 (14:04):
Right away.
Speaker 2 (14:04):
Everything was overhauled, everything was changed. Does that stop people
from Chicago from overreacting? No, But there were some decent
things to take away from that game, and you just
need to keep pushing forward. And my decentse were I mean,
in the beginning, like all the scripted stuff, it looked like,
all right, I could see the vision for the offense.
(14:26):
Kayla Williams looked decisive during like the beginning of that game.
And you have like and the like receivers, the way
that they could run routes, and the way that the
you know, there was so much change up in the
offensive personnel that was being used, and they had found
really creative ways of getting DeAndre Swift the ball.
Speaker 4 (14:43):
The defense I thought looked really really good.
Speaker 2 (14:46):
They're gonna look even better when they get Jalen Johnson back.
They didn't have Kyler Gordon either one of their other corners, so, like,
I have faith that they're going to figure it out,
but I just think it's not gonna look super good
in the meantime.
Speaker 5 (15:00):
All Right, I'm taking your word for it, Uh, take.
Speaker 4 (15:04):
My word for it. We're gonna come back next block.
Speaker 2 (15:06):
We're going to go through maybe a little bit of
a week two preview talk, a little bit more about
maybe the AFC looks a little more wide open than usual.
Too soon to make conclusions about the Chiefs.

some of this Week two action because I'm putting I'm
putting Week one in the past.
Speaker 4 (17:24):
Where we're done with that now and we do have
what was.
Speaker 5 (17:28):
The Drake line like behind me like a ponytail.
Speaker 3 (17:30):
There it is.
Speaker 5 (17:31):
Yeah, I think Clay Thompson tried to quote it one
time and it was completely missed it.
Speaker 2 (17:38):
Yeah, you know, you gotta you gotta have the delivery
as well as as the knowledge. And Week two is
gonna be a good one, I think, because there's one
game that I want to talk about first because it's
not on any of the in any of the primetime windows.
And I get it, we're getting a Super Bowl rematch
this week. The the primetime like the Sunday Night and
(18:01):
the Monday games are a little whatever. But Ben Johnson,
the new head coach of the Chicago Bears former offensive
coordinator of the Detroit Lions.
Speaker 4 (18:09):
Is going back to Detroit already.
Speaker 2 (18:12):
We are Week two and this will be Chicago's second
divisional game that they are playing, and their coach is
going back to where he came from.
Speaker 5 (18:23):
I just thought, well, wait, and I just have to say,
I feel like the NFL screenplay writers, right, you know,
whoever has the script, I just feel like they did
such a good job of giving us all these juicy
matchups in the first two weeks.
Speaker 2 (18:35):
I know, like like as if we needed to be hooked, right,
you know what I mean, Like, I'm already hooked. It's football.
I'm glad it's back. I'm already going to tune in.
And now you're really kind of like amp and up
the juice on it.
Speaker 5 (18:46):
Yeah, so sorry to interrupt there, but no, of course, Scot.
Speaker 2 (18:49):
I just think that this is gonna be very This
is gonna be a huge test for Chicago because obviously
they did not play four quarters of football against the
Minnesota Vikings at home on primetime, so now this you
take away the primetime aspect of this. However, Chicagana House
go on the road and they have to go to
fort Field. Ford Field is a dome. Ford Field gets
deafeningly loud now that the Lions are good as the
(19:12):
one who is.
Speaker 5 (19:13):
I remember the Rams talking about, like and especially Matthew Stafford,
like just I mean, coming in as an opponent even
like it is, it is a raucous in there.
Speaker 2 (19:24):
It is, And I mean Detroit loves their team so
much and I'm so happy for Detroit fans, like for
the Lions themselves. I mean, this is an organization that
was just the picture of mediocrity for so long and
now they are. They've been on a tear. But they
had a coaching exodus. Both of their coordinators, their offensive
(19:44):
defensive coordinator I should say both left and.
Speaker 4 (19:47):
They promoted from within.
Speaker 2 (19:49):
They promoted with another familiar face in the case of
the offensive coordinator, Johnny Morton, but they have Calvin Shephard
as the defensive coordinator and Nikki. I was in Detroit
for training camp this summer and it was only a
few weeks ago, and I walked in and the first
thing anyone wanted to say.
Speaker 4 (20:08):
To me was sho week two.
Speaker 2 (20:10):
And I'm like, yeah, yes, and like they were already
because they don't get to play.
Speaker 5 (20:14):
Air has been circled. It has been circled.
Speaker 2 (20:17):
They don't get to play Aaron Glenn and the Jets.
So this is like the revenge tour that they get.
And it's not even a revenge store because obviously, ten
times out of ten anybody is taking the job of
moving from coordinator to head coach. Ben Jonson even put
it off for at least a year, if not. I
mean he had some interest propriority last year as well,
(20:38):
but like the year before, like he had multiple offers
to go be a head coach, and he's decided to
stay with Detroit and they won the division again, got
to fifteen wins, most potent offense in the league, most
points per game, all this crazy stuff, and finally Ben
Johnson was like, okay, okay, I think it's time I
should go, and.
Speaker 4 (20:57):
He did so.
Speaker 2 (20:57):
Now it was mixed to There were mixed feelings of
the people that I talked to, which were coaches, some players,
even some staff members around the building, and it was
it ranged from you know, we really want him to
do well just outside of two games a year, you know,
given that they have to play him. But then other
(21:18):
people were like, no, I don't want anything good.
Speaker 4 (21:22):
I want him. I want to beat him so bad.
Speaker 2 (21:25):
And regardless of where anybody fell, it was like, these
teams are going to have some stuff for each other.
They are so familiar with each other, given that there
were division rivals as it is, but this is what
happens when you go from being a coordinator at one
team and then being the head coach of an intra
division team. You have so much context and I cannot wait.
(21:48):
The thing that concerns me is that this offense in
Chicago is not where it needs to be to start
adding all of the fun and creative and petty stuff
that Ben Johnson likes to do. It's not very so
I'm very interested to see what he has for Detroit.
Because Detroit, on the other hand, Kelvin Shepperd, the defensive coordinator,
(22:08):
has eight Hutchinson back, and that's gonna be it's it's
it's gonna be.
Speaker 4 (22:13):
It's gonna be tough slutton, I think for the Chicago Bears, and.
Speaker 5 (22:16):
I feel like the Lions on top of that need
to get right moment they do too, Yes, and so
it's going to be I think everything is uh. It
like the Bears are walking into a very formidable situation.
They're they're walking into a get right game for their opponent,
hostile environment, a little bit of vitrio. I mean, the
team can downplay it, but I would I would feel saucy.
(22:39):
You know, your your guy leaves and and yeah, you
can't blame them the nature of the business in the industry,
but I I and also it's not like Chicago showed
a very strong foundation in week one to.
Speaker 4 (22:55):
Be quite still building it right. You're still building it right.
Speaker 2 (22:58):
Yeah, So that and then the highlight of the Week
is obviously Chiefs Eagles.
Speaker 4 (23:04):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (23:04):
I like, is it weird to say that? I think
it might be kind of a boring game.
Speaker 5 (23:09):
It could be, but like, is.
Speaker 2 (23:12):
It too Like are we I've seen the Chiefs do
this too many times to like really count them out
of anything, But like, do we think that this game
will tell us something about whether how seriously we should
actually take the Chiefs?
Speaker 5 (23:22):
Do you do you think we're gonna get a shootout?
Speaker 4 (23:27):
I don't know. I like Spags would tell me no,
but like, I don't know, like.
Speaker 5 (23:32):
They I think Spags has a young defense, right that's
still trying to figure out his and he's not slowing
his stuff down for this defense. And it's also missing
read and it's I think that was on full display
against the Chargers. I'm really curious to see if the
defense grows and sharpens for Kansas City as the season
(23:53):
goes on, or if this is I mean, it's it's hard.
It's hard imagining the lead where the Chiefs aren't formidable.
Speaker 2 (24:02):
Idea it is it is, And like, I mean they're
going through some stuff offensively too, where see Rice is
suspended and they don't have the horses there, but like
two years ago, they didn't have the horses either, and
they still won the Super Bowl. So like I can't,
I can't conceivably count them out until I see it.
Speaker 5 (24:18):
I feel like right, and I don't want to. I
don't want to either. I like them being good. I
think it's it's fun when they I mean, last year
they were winning ugly. But I hope it's not the demise.
I do love seeing the rest of the AFC get
closer and closer to challenging them, though I do.
Speaker 2 (24:37):
Yeah, more parody is always better, right, I don't know,
what do you think we're going to go to the
to the update booth where Martin Weiss is waiting for
enough day break.
Speaker 7 (24:47):
Right now?
Speaker 8 (24:48):
I think George is in a ton of trouble.
Speaker 4 (24:49):
Oh that's what I think.
Speaker 8 (24:51):
We already saw one upset on the day is Georgia
Tech went into He comes in on a fifty five
yard field.
Speaker 4 (24:58):
Say he climbs in? Absolutely not, absolutely not.
Speaker 8 (25:02):
I'm sorry, defeated, was victorious over I got limpleout this
so thorists, I'll have something better for you next time.
But it was a to a twenty four to twenty
one win. There right now, Tennessee, the fifteenth ring team
of the nation, with a twenty one to seven lead
over Georgia. Georgia, the sixth ring team in the nation.
It is three minutes and thirty seconds left in the
(25:23):
first quarter. Penn State, with twelve minutes left in the
first half on FS one, has a ten to nothing
lead over Villanova. Penn State is a second ranked team
in the nation. Texas Tech and Oregon State that's on Fox.
That's in a rain delay. Iowa was staying with a
three to nothing lead over or I'm sorry over Arkansas
State with six thirty left in the first quarter, and
Texas with the ball but no score against UTEP right
(25:45):
now ten minutes They just got started in that one.
Earlier today I had big wins for Oregon, Georgia, Oregon, Oklahoma, Alabama, Michigan, Auburn,
and Missouri. Georgia just scored zachar Riot Branch with a
thirty six yard touchdown catch. So now that score is
going to be twenty one to thirteen with the extra
point pending. In Major League Baseball, Threak school Ball avoided
(26:07):
major injury after getting pulled from his star yesterday.
Speaker 4 (26:10):
Bottom of the eighth inning.
Speaker 8 (26:11):
I'm sorry. Top of the ninth inning, raising the Cubs
tie four to four. Bottom of the sixth Baltimore with
the two one lead over Toronto. Top of the third,
scoreless in Pittsburgh and Washington, the aforementioned Tigers. They got
good news with school Boy right now trailing the Marlins.
Won to nothing at the top of the second inning,
Yankees two nothing over the Red Sox, and the bottom
of the first Rangers and the Mets. They're just getting started.
(26:31):
That one was in a range delay as well earlier today,
but it's the top of the first inning. It's scoreless
between the Rangers and the Mets.
Speaker 2 (26:38):
Back to you guys, thank you so much, Martin. How
do you feel about J. J. McCarthy's debut. By the way,
mister michkin Man.
Speaker 8 (26:49):
For the first three quarters, I thought, this is why
Kevin O'Connell seems to be on the phone with every
available quarterback and even some of those that weren't very available.
Speaker 2 (26:57):
But I also, we're only rumors. Also, you know, we
didn't get any confirmation.
Speaker 8 (27:02):
That is true. But also when he pulled that on
that read option and scored the touchdowns, like this is
the JJ McCarthy that I remember like a game in which,
if you watch it, did he play well? Not necessarily,
but at the end of it, it's the most thing ever.
Speaker 4 (27:18):
He's a winner or whatever.
Speaker 8 (27:20):
He just makes plays at the end of games that
help you win.
Speaker 4 (27:25):
I can't argue with that because he did it.
Speaker 2 (27:27):
So I don't know if Vikings fans and Bears fans
had the exact opposite experience with this Monday night game,
where like Viking Twitter was melting down like, oh my god,
JJ McCarthy's a bus like Kevin mccardoll's not actually a
good coach, like oh my god, we should have done more,
blah blah blah blah, and then Bears fans were like,
oh my god, I don't even feel like I'm watching
the Bears. And then it shifted, and then Bikings fans
(27:49):
are like, no, he's the truth. We're good, we're fine,
And now Bears fans are like, oh my god, it's
the same old, same old, like we paid a bunch
of money for a coach that doesn't it's not anything different.
Speaker 4 (28:02):
I don't know. It's it was it was, it was,
it was.
Speaker 2 (28:04):
It was like it was a glimpse into both of
these fan bases, which I thought was really fun. I
think we're having a little bit of trouble getting hold
of Oh, he's ready, guys.
Speaker 4 (28:14):
We've got a special show.
Speaker 5 (28:15):
Really important question though. To start us off here, what
did we think of the gray shirt that killed Williams?
Speaker 4 (28:21):
Oh, I don't We'll get to that.
Speaker 2 (28:22):
We'll get to that in a second because we can
actually Dave and I talked about it quite a bit.
We have Dave Hellman, now the co host of The
Athletic Football Show, joining us right now from the streets
of Chicago.
Speaker 4 (28:36):
Dave, how are.
Speaker 1 (28:37):
We today, Hey, guys, I'm wonderful. Thanks for having me.
Speaker 4 (28:41):
Yes, of course you are.
Speaker 2 (28:44):
Now you left Fox, You're now onto the Athletic Football Show.
You get to dive into all the nerdy things uh
in the NFL world, and you're back doing a draft
show with Dane Brugler, which, if anybody followed Dave of
Hellman's career back with the Cowboys, all, this is not.
Speaker 4 (29:02):
The first time you've done a draft show.
Speaker 2 (29:05):
I want to know just about your biggest Week one takeaway,
like who did we overreact on and who do we
need to kind of who's the surprise of the week.
Speaker 1 (29:18):
From the NFL season.
Speaker 4 (29:19):
You mean, yes, so I.
Speaker 1 (29:23):
Think this synergy here is so perfect, and we actually
talked about it on The Athletic Football Show heading into
the weekend. The Indianapolis Colts looked so good in Week one.
You know, we can make all the jokes with one
about Daniel Jones and how good he is, and how
bad it is that Anthony Richardson's not starting for the Colts.
(29:45):
How much promise this team actually has. All I can
say is they looked damn good beating the hell out
of the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. Now it is a
valid question the Dolphins might be imploding the vibes I
seemed terrible in Miami. But guess what. This is the
beauty of the NFL. It's not college football where you've
(30:06):
got to wait six weeks to find out how for
real a team is. The Colts play Denver tomorrow, Guys, like,
what could be a better test than what I think
is the best defense in the NFL. They gave cam
Ward a heck of a welcome to the NFL moment
last week. They were flying around Nick Bonito looks like
he's ready to make a jump into NFL Defensive Player
(30:29):
of the Year type conversations. Patzertan has already won that award,
so clearly this Denver defense is loaded. If Indy I
don't even need him to win, But if they play
well in this game and if the offense looks good,
that is very interesting to me because I don't think
a whole lot of people are talking about the Colts,
but they got a big They got a big chance
(30:50):
to make a statement. If they can play well or
even beat Denver tomorrow.
Speaker 5 (30:56):
Well, what do you need to see from Bow?
Speaker 1 (31:01):
What do I need to see from Bo? I need
to see Bo make better decisions? And the Tennessee Titans
have an underrated defense, Like that is a good group
I don't want to make again. I don't think you
ever want to overreact to Week one. But the whole
thing with Denver is like how good is Bo really?
And is Bo ready to be the quarterback of a
(31:22):
team that's going to take the Broncos to another level
than just losing badly in the wildcard round? And Week
one was ugly, guys, I think it was two interceptions.
I think there was a fumble mixed in. The Broncos
won that game, with four turnovers, which does not happen
in the NFL. That speaks to starting cam Ward, starting
a rookie quarterback on the road in week one. I
(31:42):
don't need him to be a superstar. I need him
to play cleaner than that, make better decisions than that,
I think. I think in these defense is probably a
step down in week two. But yeah, I just I
need to trust bo Nix more. That's going all the
way back to his college career. Week one. That made
me a little uneasy. So play a cleaner game here
(32:03):
on the road in week two and I'll feel a
heck of a lot better, all right.
Speaker 4 (32:06):
I got to bring it up. He spent a lot
of time in Dallas.
Speaker 2 (32:09):
They actually did the unthinkable, traded Micah Parsons, and now
he has just elevated everything about the Green Bay Packers
defense in the limited role that he's had. What are
what's the conversation among Cowboys fans right now?
Speaker 1 (32:25):
Yeah? I think Cowboys fans are a little more divided
than you might expect. And let's be clear that the
Cowboys bungled this entire thing like they which ironically, as
we are on the phone right now, it seems like
the Cowboys might be learning the error of their ways
because they just made Tyler Smith the highest paid guard
in football. And that was kind of that was the
(32:47):
Cowboys promise in this deal, Like that was their spin
on it, is, Hey, we can't afford what we want
to do if we have to pay Micah on top
of paying Dak and CD. So we'll trade him. We'll
get some money, flaxability, we'll get some draft picks. Maybe
we can be a better deeper team for it. And
in the two weeks since they traded Micah, they locked
(33:07):
up de Ron Bland and now they've locked up Tyler Smith,
who I mean, I definitely think Tyler Smith is one
of the best young offensive linemen in football. So you're
seeing the Cowboys spin kind of come to fruition where
they're like, look, we can afford more people, we can
do more stuff without Micah Parsons. And I think a
lot of Cowboy fans buy into that, whether it's right
(33:28):
or wrong, probably because Micah was on several of those
Cowboys teams that disappointed in the playoffs. But on the
foot side of that, even if you buy that narrative,
how can you watch what the Packers are doing and
feel like this was something that's likely to work out.
Like the way the way the Cowboys would have to
(33:49):
navigate this to be better off would be, it would
be so so impressive when you see what Micah Parsons
is doing. He's elevating everybody on that Green Bay defense.
He's picking up where he left off. He looks like
the best ed trusher in football right now. He's making
Edrin Cooper and Rashan Gary and Lucas van Ness all
look like even better players than they already were. And
(34:11):
maybe we don't want to overreact, but look, green Bay
has played two games. They beat the best team in
the NFC from last year and the team that played
in the NFC title game in their place after beating them,
green Bay has a better resume after two games than
anybody in the NFL could hope to and that carries
some weight. I mean, they look like they're ready to
be serious about contending for a Super Bowl, and if
(34:33):
they do, it's gonna be hard to argue that the
Cowboys got the better end of that deal.
Speaker 4 (34:39):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (34:39):
I was gonna say that first part that you were
breaking down sounded like kind of a lot of kopium
because sure they could be a deeper team and oh
my gosh, maybe one of those draft picks can actually
turn into Mico Parsons.
Speaker 1 (34:50):
So it is You're right, Carmen, it is kopium, and like, yeah,
it's easy for the Cowboys to say, like, oh, well,
look we can afford more some of these players, we
can be a more well rounded team. Well, I'd rather
have one of the best five players in the NFL.
That's me personally. And this whole thing hinges. You're so right,
(35:11):
this whole thing hinges on the Cowboys drafting not one,
but two, like all Pro Hall of Fame caliber players
with these draft picks, because that's what you gave up
in Micah Parsons. Jerry Jones loves to bring up his
famous herschel Walker trade that kind of launched the nineties
dynasty that Dallas built. The thing is the herschel Walker
(35:34):
trade landed them Emmitt Smith, who is the most accomplished
running back of all time, and Darren Woodson, who's one
of the best defenders in Cowboys history, has a case
to be in the Hall of Fame himself. So good luck, Jerry.
If you think you're capable of finding two Hall of
famers in the draft be my guest, and if they do,
good for them. But I think the odds are not great.
(35:56):
I think the odds suggests that Micah Parsons is going
to be the better end of that deal.
Speaker 4 (36:00):
I love, I love going back to reality with you. Dave.
Speaker 2 (36:02):
All Right, well, thank you so much for joining us.
I will let you get back to the glorious summer day,
still summer day that it is in Chicago.
Speaker 4 (36:11):
I really appreciate you joining us.
Speaker 1 (36:13):
Thanks you all have a good one bye.
Speaker 2 (36:16):
On the on the other side of this, we're going
to have the dues and the don'ts for the day.
You're listening to Fox Football Saturday.
Speaker 4 (36:22):
We got it. If I wasn't already woken up, I
am now.
Speaker 2 (36:26):
Good Lord Kama Metally here with you for Fox Football Saturday.
I've got little Nikki kay with me as well. We're
taking answer all things football. I feel like I'm in
a student section right now, like I'm about to live
Moss with all of this, like that was what that's
what I sus.
Speaker 4 (36:44):
Student section is.
Speaker 5 (36:45):
No, And that's so funny because they just showed the
University of Tennessee and they've done the checkered fan moment
in Knoxville over there, and they're in the live Moss
student sections.
Speaker 4 (36:57):
I think that, yeah, I think talker does that look yeah?
Speaker 5 (37:01):
Lay listen. I love Moss every day.
Speaker 2 (37:04):
I try, especially on college football Saturdays. All right, well
we are we have our recurring a weekly segment, the
Dues and the don'ts of the week coming up right now.
Speaker 6 (37:19):
Putting a spotlight on the don't the subject brings me
no joy.
Speaker 4 (37:24):
That's insane.
Speaker 6 (37:25):
It's time for the dues and the don'ts in sports.
Speaker 2 (37:29):
Okay, Nicky, I'm going to start with a do and
it is going to be do own up to your
own mistakes, because there's head coach Ben Johnson. Clearly there
were some mistakes made in that game on Monday.
Speaker 4 (37:41):
Night, one of which being.
Speaker 2 (37:45):
They had a chance to kind of try and come back,
and in order to do so, to take advantage of
the two minute warning, they needed to have their kicker
kick the ball out of bounds out of the back
of the end zone.
Speaker 4 (38:00):
Basically, there just couldn't have been a return.
Speaker 2 (38:02):
You can even like can get short of the landing
zone and then it's a penalty and they have to
start at the like the opponent could start the forty
five and cent at forty whatever or forty inside of
the thirty five. Ben Johnson admitted, after this went horribly awry,
Kyro Santos hits it exactly into the end zone.
Speaker 4 (38:19):
It does get returned.
Speaker 2 (38:21):
The seconds melt off the clock and the Bears never
get a chance. They get nine seconds to try and
make something happen when they could have had around a minute. Uh.
This is one of those things where it was a mistake.
Ben Johnson owned up to it multiple times throughout the week,
and even as early as late as yesterday, was like, listen,
I don't want to keep talking about it, but I'm
(38:43):
gonna admit I got greedy. I got greedy. I didn't
want them to have those extra five yards. I wanted
to keep them. And I should have told them to
get it out of balance. I should I should have
done something else.
Speaker 4 (38:53):
That was my bad. I needed to know better.
Speaker 5 (38:56):
And I appreciate that, okay. And following up on that,
Jean Payton was talking to media this week too, and
he was owning his mistake, quote unquote, taking a responsibility
for bo Nix's interceptions. Do you think that's a coach
protecting his quarterback or do you think Peyton actually could
have been a little bit more prudent in his play calling.
Speaker 2 (39:13):
I think that's still a coach protecting his quarterback, because
when coaches do that to me, I'm like, well, you
didn't have any direct you're directly doing that. Like yeah,
you can say that, you can say I should have
done this that the other to help him out more
or this whatever. But like Ben Johnson and Ben Johnson's case,
like that was his call, that was his call to make.
(39:34):
He shouldn't have done it, and he was like, I
get it, I'm still learning, and it is. It was
his first game as head coach, So I'm willing to
give him the benefit of the doubt, especially if he's gonna.
Speaker 5 (39:43):
He's got a learning curve. Yeah, okay, okay, I've got
to do and mine is do check your sources. Have
you been following the Clipper scandal at all?
Speaker 4 (39:51):
I have?
Speaker 5 (39:51):
Oh my gosh, it's scintillating, Babblo Tory excellent, excellent investigative
journalism by him basically digging up this kind of salary
cap alleged salary cap circumvention scheme that Steve Balmer and
the Clippers might have been involved in when it comes
to paying out Kawhi Leonard an additional I think at
least twenty eight million. I lost track of all the
(40:13):
numbers being floated around. But you know, for every counter
that Balmer had saying and the Clippers saying they didn't
know weren't affiliated, Pablo comes out with a smoking gun.
It's been fascinating. So I really appreciate his digging and
doing all the hard work for us because I'm sack.
I'm sack when it.
Speaker 2 (40:31):
Come yeah, I like and also like when there's a
paper trail like that, that's not that hard to figure out.
Come on, man, real quick, I got one more, dude,
Do be a man of the people. Anthony Rizzo is
sitting in the Chicago Cubs bleach jersey's retiring a Cub
wearing a jersey signed by a bunch of patients visited hospital. Amazing.
We'll see you on the other side of this. You're
listening to Fox Football Saturday. Welcome back in to hour
(40:54):
two of Fox Football Saturday. I'm Carmen Vitally, joined by
Spectrum Sports Sports La Nicky Kay. We're having a ball
talking all things football because it's back and for the
best pregame show every weekend, be sure to tune in
to Fox Sports Radios count Down to Kickoff, presented by
bet MGM. Every Saturday and Sunday morning. We will count
(41:15):
you down to all of the biggest games for three
hours right.
Speaker 4 (41:18):
Up until kickoff.
Speaker 2 (41:19):
For all of the best plays and up to the
second injury news, tune in to count Down to Kickoff,
presented by bet MGM, every Saturday and Sunday morning right
here on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app. So now,
we talked a lot of NFL already. We got to
it kind of in the beginning of the show, Nikki,
but I want to dive in a little bit more
to college right now, because I mean, I'm watching this
(41:42):
Georgia Tennessee game and George, I mean George is driving
at this point and we'll see.
Speaker 4 (41:49):
But Tennessee just.
Speaker 2 (41:51):
Has some swag or to them this year, and I
know that's probably like nobody wants to hear that, But
I'm looking at this AP. I want to start there actually,
because I'm looking at the AP top twenty five pole
and top five teams, Ohio State and a surprise there,
Penn State, LSU, Oregon, Miami, My Miami. If you're the
(42:12):
INCA both you so, I'm I'm looking at the and like,
I mean, you know, it's early. These are these rankings
were released last week, September seventh.
Speaker 4 (42:23):
Ohio State. Do we think that they have the juice
to do it again this year?
Speaker 5 (42:30):
I think repeating anytime. I mean, well, college football is
a little bit different, but Ohio State's defense just has
looked so so dominant, and I think if that unit
can carry them even when the offense isn't as I
do think they have some questions offensively that they're you know,
working through. I think they're going to be in the
(42:53):
final four if I'm if I'm putting money on it today,
which I'm not, but I'm very hard eye emoji towards
Oregon at this point, especially especially a PAC twelve former
PAC twelve member myself, same right, you know, I would
(43:14):
love I would love to see the Ducks a top
As we're looking at those top those top five programs
you mentioned, I think Oregon's the most complete. I think
their offense is insane, and I think they have the
most promising resume. Out of that those top five schools.
Speaker 2 (43:33):
It's interesting because I mean, now obviously the Big Ten
just swallowed up the good teams of the Pac.
Speaker 4 (43:39):
Twelve and and some others as well.
Speaker 5 (43:42):
The good teams less us LA.
Speaker 4 (43:43):
Yeah, I wasn't going to say it.
Speaker 5 (43:47):
We're a basketball school. Basketball school.
Speaker 2 (43:49):
The field you have to get through now in the
Big Ten, like I have to think that if you're
going to be able to contend.
Speaker 4 (43:55):
With the SEC.
Speaker 2 (43:57):
And yes, I know Ohio State one one last year,
in Michigan one year before. So it's been all Big
Ten for the last couple of years. But I mean
it's still when you look at the expanded playoff field
and you look at the teams that you have to
get through, I mean, you're already wading through a lot
of these teams if you're in the Big Ten. So
like your battle testing at that point. And that's kind
of been you know, Oregon kind of drops off in
(44:19):
the postseason or has over the last couple of years,
even though they look dominant and like, here's the thing
they played Northwestern today. I got my grad degree at Northwestern.
I am very well aware of who Northwestern is as
a program. They are there. They care too much about
academics to be any sort of real football program.
Speaker 5 (44:42):
I'm fine with you saying that I got waitlisted at Northwestern,
So yeah, care too much about academics. Northwestern not a
football school.
Speaker 4 (44:49):
They're not a football school. They just start.
Speaker 2 (44:51):
I mean, even the new stadium their building is only
going to see it but like thirty something thousand people,
which I think is the right call because you're never
going to sell out the stadium otherwise. But that being
like Oregon, you know, handed the handled Northwestern very easily.
You look at what Penn State's doing right now, but
they're playing Villanova, Like, Yeah, these these other teams in
(45:11):
the Big Ten are the ones that, like.
Speaker 4 (45:13):
I think, they're going to kind of beat up on
each other.
Speaker 2 (45:16):
So whoever ends up coming out of the Big Ten
I think is going to be really well battle tested
is the point. And so if Oregon is that team,
that's gonna be really interesting. I could see them going
into the final four.
Speaker 4 (45:27):
Two.
Speaker 2 (45:28):
My biggest thing with the AP top five, like of
the top twenty five and then the top five teams
that they have that they've ranked.
Speaker 4 (45:35):
Do we really think Miami is a top five team?
Speaker 5 (45:39):
I think I think a lot of that has to
do with Carson Beck being a third year starting quarterback right,
and I know he was injured last year, but I
think when they're giving weight to a school and putting
it in the top five and the I mean, who
knows how good that win over Notre Dame could look
in three weeks right right right?
Speaker 2 (45:58):
Not to like, yeah, I mean Notre Dame has Texas
A and M and we're going to find out. I
think a lot about about Notre Dame this weekend but
or today, But yeah, I like, I don't know. I
I mean, it's Carsonbeck's body language.
Speaker 4 (46:11):
It just kind of bothers me where like, well.
Speaker 5 (46:13):
I love a body language doctor.
Speaker 4 (46:16):
What is it?
Speaker 5 (46:17):
What is it that gets.
Speaker 2 (46:18):
It's just like when things are going bad, it's like
he looks so dejected, like he looked like it's like
compounded on his face when things are like not swinging
in their direction.
Speaker 4 (46:27):
Like I mean, there.
Speaker 2 (46:28):
Hasn't been a whole lot of bad so far they
are to and no, but like there's been some a
little bit like in that in that Notre Dame game,
there was a little bit of rocky like whatever, and
I was just like, you know, when the momentum wasn't
in Miami's favor.
Speaker 5 (46:40):
I'm a big I'm a big body language reader too.
That okay. Also, can we talk about what went on
with the arch Manning discussion in his face and Steve
Sarkasian's comments about it, like telling reporters not to like
not or to mind their own business.
Speaker 4 (46:58):
I like this is because we've seen this happen now.
Speaker 2 (47:02):
More and more, I feel like over the last two years,
and it's it's completely contradictory to how we are now
treating these athletes. Right they are with the nil era
and the transfer portal.
Speaker 4 (47:13):
They are as.
Speaker 3 (47:14):
Much professional professionals ever been, yep.
Speaker 2 (47:17):
And if that's going to be the case, then you
have to put them out there too. They have to
They have to answer for things that happen in a game,
and like whether the pressure is fair or not. That's
kind of the name of the game. And if you're
going to be essentially a professional, that comes with the territory.
Speaker 5 (47:35):
Well, and a couple of interesting things. I mean, just
so being in LA I do cover UCLA and Deshaun
Foster's media policies. Just keeping media out was kind of crazy, yes,
because it's not a good enough program. I mean, I've
covered programs like the University of Oklahoma, right, and they
(47:56):
run it like a professional, a professional joint there.
Speaker 3 (48:00):
You know.
Speaker 5 (48:00):
You you go and you talk to what at the
time as Lincoln Riley in on Mondays. You have defensive
coordinators on Wednesdays, blah blah. Anyway, so UCLA just kind
of shutting everyone out. And then the way you know
now having nico Iam Malayava in there, I've seen pieces
written it's like, this is the quarterback UCLA hired, and
(48:22):
that's the correct verbiage, right, it.
Speaker 2 (48:24):
Is absolutely it is. I mean, yeah, you talk about
Bryce Underwood getting ten million dollars just to sign with Michigan,
and like, these are essentially employees and they are I mean,
as much as you want to say they're student athletes
and they are getting an education at these big time
schools with these big time programs.
Speaker 4 (48:41):
They are professional programs.
Speaker 2 (48:42):
And I mean LA is the same way, or you
see USC is the same way as UCLA is.
Speaker 4 (48:47):
And I'm like, that's the second largest media market in
the country. You can't get away with that.
Speaker 5 (48:52):
And when there's like nine professional teams here too, it's
you want, I mean, and then they're the added you know,
element of losing. It's like, gosh, you you can't be
run in that sort of operation.
Speaker 2 (49:05):
My and my whole thing too is you're not doing
these guys any favors by sheltering them from that, because
if they are that good that they are answering for
all of that, they're having to answer for all this,
they are up at the podium after the game, all
of that kind of stuff.
Speaker 4 (49:17):
This doesn't go away accountable. Ready, I have to go.
Speaker 2 (49:20):
To the pros and then there is no one that
is going to field those questions for you or insulate
you from any of that.
Speaker 4 (49:27):
You need to learn how to deal with it.
Speaker 2 (49:30):
And oh, I just I think like not getting that
practice and not learning how like not being fully media
trained in college can hurt guys when they come out.
Speaker 5 (49:41):
And also, okay, this is another you know, this is
a much bigger picture conversation on the landscape of college football.
But that's where I take the greatest issue with the
transfer portal. When things get tough for guys, Okay, I'm
going to go play somewhere else. And yes, there's a
lot of freedom in that and opening doors for guys
to get time, but at the same time, it's like, hey,
(50:04):
you know sometimes through adversity you need to work and
sit through it and you know, be patient. So sorry,
that's my soap box for the day.
Speaker 4 (50:13):
No, I actually love this.
Speaker 2 (50:14):
I mean, like, this is totally this is kind of
off topic from what we were initially going to talk about,
but I do like talking about it because listen, NFL
scouts will find you if you are a good player,
they will find you. I promise you, as someone who
knows intimately what those departments look like, what the responsibilities
of those area scouts are, like, the NFL will find
(50:35):
you if you are good enough.
Speaker 4 (50:37):
And so this transfer portal, like.
Speaker 2 (50:38):
Yes, there is the opportunity to go somewhere where you
do get to play more and maybe you do get
to show off your skill set a little bit more,
and maybe you get more looks from different coaches. But
the ramifications of that within college programs and coaches in
particular then having to essentially recruit their own players year
(51:00):
in and year out, and there's only so many spots,
there are only so many like people that can play
at once, and I think that there's been a lot Listen,
recruiting has always been kind of a murky business, right
like you give out more scholar you promise more scholarships
than you actually have to give, and like there's some
(51:21):
there's a real underbelly to it. That's not the greatest
thing in the world, but what the transfer portal has done.
And I don't even know that I'm firmly like against
the transfer portal. I think I just would like a
little bit more regulation. Like I think having to make
like make guys sit out a year was kind of
the right maybe the right middle ground there, because it
makes them kind of think about what they really like
(51:42):
want and what they they should they should do, rather
than just like, yeah, the moment things get tough, they
go into the portal and and try to find a
better situation, which they you don't even know if it
is at the end of the day, Like you could
go somewhere and it could be the same thing. And
I feel like some guys get stuck in this carousel
of trying to find the right fit and like you
run out of eligibility in the process. I don't know,
(52:04):
It's it's the wild West in college football right now.
I'm very interested to see like how they end up
kind of rains.
Speaker 5 (52:09):
Yeah, it's something, Yeah, something has to shift, right I sense, uh,
I sense the discussion around it being like, this can't
this isn't sustainable. Yeah, it's paying guys millions of dollars
to come play for a year, you know, and and
so we'll see.
Speaker 4 (52:27):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (52:27):
I think I honestly think like more than nil being
the issue, I think that the transfer portal is the
thing that really kind of turned everything on its head, right,
and and just the domino effect of what that's done
to college football.
Speaker 4 (52:39):
It's really interesting.
Speaker 2 (52:41):
But I listen, it's still it's still a fun product,
as evidenced by the games that are on right now
FORRS screens right now for screens, for screens, I got
a quad box going. It's phenomenal. But we're going to
go back to some more NFL conversation. I want to
talk about the NFC West in particular because you mentioned
it at the top of the show, Nikki. That's that
(53:04):
division I think is sneaky stacked for like it's not
being talked about enough.
Speaker 4 (53:08):
We are going to talk about it. Right on the
other side of this, you're listening to Fox Football Saturday,
all right. So we had like Stadium Rock Techno coming.
Speaker 5 (53:17):
Out now it's easy listening.
Speaker 2 (53:19):
And now I got some easy listening. I love this.
What's up, everybody, Carmen Vitali here, got Nicky Kay with me,
got Bo Benson, Chris Purfett, Martin Weiss in the studio,
vibing out on this college football Saturday, having some fun,
talking some football.
Speaker 4 (53:38):
It's great.
Speaker 5 (53:39):
Settle for a field goal on that last drive.
Speaker 4 (53:41):
They sure did so.
Speaker 2 (53:42):
It's still twenty one, seventeen thirty seconds out from halftime.
Speaker 4 (53:50):
Am I behind?
Speaker 5 (53:51):
I don't know, Yeah, no, no, no, no, yeah, I've got
twenty seven seconds over here. Okay, Tennessee, yep, all right.
Speaker 2 (53:59):
Well, I want to go back to the NFL because
we talked about I've talked quite a bit about the
NFC North and how it's one of those divisions that
I just think is up for grabs. It's a very
tough division. I think it's the best division of football.
There's quite a few conversations to have around that. But
I think what a sneak like, A sneaky division that
(54:21):
I think is pretty up in the air, and maybe
a little bit less so now that the forty nine
ers have all of these century issues.
Speaker 5 (54:30):
Already crazy already like I don't know what's going on
in San Francisco.
Speaker 2 (54:38):
There's something in the water. Good Lord, Like, I just
I don't know. Losing Brock Party especially like the thing
is too going into the season, You're like, Oh, we're
gonna get Christian McCaffrey back, the offense is gonna be
a full strength. No, we don't have deepot Sammy anymore,
but that's okay, Like things are gonna be fine, the
defense is gonna be fine. Everything's gonna be fine, and
(54:59):
like it's been anything but fine. And the NFC West
I think is completely up for grabs unless I don't know.
Do you, Nikky, you cover this team very closely? Do
you think this is the Rams division to lose?
Speaker 5 (55:11):
I mean, that's how I feel. But I think the
biggest question mark around the Rams dominance would be a
healthy Matthew Stafford, which is a huge question mark.
Speaker 2 (55:23):
The airstream airstream theories, right, I don't know.
Speaker 4 (55:27):
You bring out the.
Speaker 9 (55:27):
Airstream and I'm just I'm skeptical and okay, But also
then I look at I mean, the confidence when you
have a man like Sean McVay running the shows, that
also adds.
Speaker 5 (55:41):
A lot of you know, belief in and around the franchise.
I have a question for you, who do you if
you had to ask today, who do you think the
best coach in the NFL is? Who would you say? First?
Probably Kevin O'Connell, Right, I would say Cee and I
would probably go McVeigh O'Connell one two.
Speaker 2 (55:59):
I mean, to be fair, O'Connell came from the mcmah tree.
Speaker 5 (56:03):
So like, but people say the McVeigh tree, is it
really the Shanahan tree.
Speaker 2 (56:07):
Yeah, I always I always call it the Shanahan mcmartree
because like it started with Kyle and yeah, you.
Speaker 5 (56:13):
Know that la arrogance. We refer to the McVeigh tree
heavily around here. But yeah, it is really the Shanahan tree.
Speaker 4 (56:21):
Yeah it is.
Speaker 2 (56:22):
I put McVeigh in there, but no, I mean I
would say it's it's Kevin O'Connell and just but like,
it's more for his ability to develop players, to galvanize
a team, to create a scheme than it is form
from like or like all the adjustments that he's able
to make than it is like for the scheme itself.
Speaker 5 (56:41):
Is what I meant to say, Like, yeah, and then
you can say McVeigh the arguably since the Patriots lost
has lost, has really fine tuned his ability to make
in game adjustments all uh Andy Reid, Right, Yes.
Speaker 2 (56:56):
Yeah, he's gotten a lot better than and I mean
I feel like McVeigh also learned to delegate a lot
more when it comes to especially defensively, and like that
has paid dividends with like the young players they have
on that defensive line especially, and I mean this was
this is a good team. This is very talented team,
albeit still young outside of Matthew Stafford at the quarterback,
(57:17):
who is now one of the oldest No.
Speaker 5 (57:19):
And their their defensive front is like I mean like
Gong Gos Aaron Donald and this just they just refill
it with tons of talent. It's been really fun to
watch too.
Speaker 4 (57:31):
I thought it was really prescient of them too.
Speaker 5 (57:35):
Oh I love that word. Wait can you what does
that mean?
Speaker 4 (57:39):
Like it was like looking forward, Like it was very
like yes, future casting, Yes, it.
Speaker 2 (57:44):
Was future yes, like knowing to like knowing that they
could not replace Aaron Donald one for one, right, it
was like we need that whole line to make up
for that loss, and like they went out they got
multiple guys in last year's draft, then you ended up with,
you know, the defensive rookie of the year.
Speaker 4 (58:03):
I want, I like, do we think the Cardinals are
a little bit of a sleeper? I don't know, how
wide are you about the Cardinals if you're the Ramps.
I don't know.
Speaker 5 (58:13):
I mean, it's very hard for me to ever to
ever like say that sentence out loud.
Speaker 2 (58:21):
The vibes seem kind of good though around Arizona right now,
That's all I'm saying. Like the vibes seem kind of good.
You're calling try McBride, tray kwan. I don't know, Like
it's fun.
Speaker 5 (58:31):
Yeah it is. It is fun. And you know what,
if there's any like give me, give me a good
sleeper storyline any at any point during the NFL season,
Like I I actually truly do enjoy those.
Speaker 4 (58:42):
So yeah, I do, I do too.
Speaker 2 (58:45):
I mean and granted there when last in Week one
came over the New Orleans Saints and things are just
talking about vibes.
Speaker 5 (58:52):
Being well and apparently okay, So their matchup with Carolina
this this week, apparently the Panthers have a historic run
of dominance over the Cardinals. I think they won like
fifteen out of their last twenty one meetings something along
those lines, very skewed. But I was like, wow, talk
about two programs with big, big expectations.
Speaker 4 (59:14):
Yeah, I was.
Speaker 2 (59:14):
Gonna say they're like they're they're scrapping at the bottom usually,
but no, And then that leaves the Seahawks when we're
talking about the NFC West, and I don't I mean, granted,
it's only week two, so I don't know that I
should know what to make with the make of the Seahawks,
But like, I don't know what to make of the
Seahawks quite yet, because like I think Mike McDonald's a
(59:34):
great coach after you like, you know what he did
in Baltimore, like and defensively, I just I don't know.
Speaker 4 (59:41):
They didn't look good against.
Speaker 2 (59:43):
The Niners, and I like, we don't and maybe that's
because like the Niners, I think are a good team.
They just the injury bug is just horrendous. But I
mean that was a seventeen.
Speaker 5 (59:54):
Thirteen and then yeah, I what do you think? I mean,
not that much can be gleaned from it. But like
the Seahawks, you know, to running back situation, like did
you think they went with the right choice in their
one two combo.
Speaker 4 (01:00:11):
Yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:00:12):
I mean it's way too early to tell, right, Like,
but like what you do need to do is you
do need to give Sam Donald something to lean on
when it comes to that. I don't know that that
offensive line and that was like my biggest concern about
the Seahawks coming into the season was like, is that
offensive line good enough to for Sam Donald to continue
his like upward ascension that he started in Minnesota. Yeah,
and like Minnesota's line last year, the interior was not great.
(01:00:34):
I mean, you had a really good tackle tandem before
Christian Darisa got hurt, and but like you saw Sam
Donald gain confidence, and I'm like, are we just gonna
you know, is that going to go away now in Seattle?
And again it's too early to tell, but they do
get the Steelers, Yeah this week, and we're going to
talk to Adam I mean right at the other side
of this update break about it. But yeah, I mean,
(01:00:56):
now you're going against a pretty scary defensive.
Speaker 4 (01:00:59):
Front that like, I don't know, I don't know what
to make of.
Speaker 2 (01:01:03):
The Seahawks on the whole, Like if they're gonna gonna
be a sneaky team that hangs around or whatever. But
I agree with you where I think that this is
probably still the Rams.
Speaker 4 (01:01:14):
Division to lose.
Speaker 5 (01:01:15):
Yeah, I and that always makes things more exciting here
in Los Angeles. I mean, and then if you pair
it with a potential Chargers team, that's.
Speaker 4 (01:01:24):
I was just gonna say, what the heck?
Speaker 6 (01:01:27):
You know?
Speaker 5 (01:01:27):
I mean, Justin Herbert, are you arguably the best game
of his career?
Speaker 4 (01:01:34):
Like, I don't think that's hyperboles.
Speaker 2 (01:01:35):
Yeah, I mean it's gonna start paying off with Harbaugh
as the coach, right, and like you know, it is
balanced offense, and I think he's found something in like
how to unlock everything about Justin Herbert and the rest
of the team and Joe.
Speaker 5 (01:01:51):
All I mean filling in for Shawn Slater, like he
he stepped up in a big way. But I still
think this Chargers offense is going to have a lot
of question with the weapons, right, Like, is is Keenan
Allen going to be consistent you know, to to lat McConkey,
And then like how are you going to replace? Mean,
(01:02:11):
I think we saw little signs of it in that
season opener, but JK. Dobbins gone, is it? Omar and
Hampton and in Naji Harris, I know is limited with
that eye injury, are coming back from the eye injury,
but like it's it's they're going to have to have
consistent production and Herbert's going to have to keep that
Superman capon I had a lot of.
Speaker 4 (01:02:30):
People had a drop crush on Omari and Hampton.
Speaker 2 (01:02:32):
Yeah, and I saw like, and I have to think that,
you know, Jim Harbond knows what to do, and like
there were flashes in that in that game one or
week one game where like a Mari and Hampton. I
was like, huh, go figure, Jim Harbord knows how to
pick running backs. It kind of tapered off towards the
end there, but like, I have to think that that's.
Speaker 4 (01:02:49):
Going to get going.
Speaker 2 (01:02:50):
And maybe it's just the shuffling of the offensive line.
You have to take that into consideration as well. But
I agree with you, Joe Altman, Yeah, I mean you
found a foundational offensive lineman in him.
Speaker 5 (01:03:00):
Prescient.
Speaker 2 (01:03:02):
Yeah, they were really you know again, I trust Jim Harbor.
I trust Jim Harbaugh with running backs. I trust Jim
Harbaugh with offensive lineman.
Speaker 5 (01:03:08):
I trust him to never fully answer a question. That's
what I'm learning there.
Speaker 4 (01:03:12):
You go.
Speaker 5 (01:03:14):
Give me a good saying though any day.
Speaker 2 (01:03:16):
Jim absolutely, Oh yeah, give me a one liner any day.
Speaker 4 (01:03:21):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:03:21):
And and maybe we can get another one liner out
of Martin Weiss, Martin, what do you got for there
for our update break?
Speaker 8 (01:03:28):
Oh Brigotto, Carmon wet wow. That is a Portuguese for
thank you. I learned that not dueling your honeymoon. No,
not on the honeymoon. I learned that in Jim Harborough's
press conference this week.
Speaker 5 (01:03:42):
I remember from a press conference with Usain Bolt that
went viral years ago. The reporter was like, oh, Brigotto, Jim.
Speaker 8 (01:03:52):
Harbor this week, said Obrigatto. Justin Patrick Herbert, I can't
believe you haven't seen that. If you haven't seen that,
Carl And I'll send to see you.
Speaker 4 (01:04:00):
I can't.
Speaker 8 (01:04:02):
It's a quintessential chefs Kich Jim hardball type moment. At
the half, Tennessee with a twenty one to seventeen lead
over Georgia. Tennessee the fifteenth rain team in the nation.
Georgia the sixth Penn State with a twenty one to
nothing lead over Villanova. Penn State is the second rate
team in the nation, and who knew Villanova plays college
football Oregon State and Texas Tech in a right in delay,
(01:04:25):
thirty seconds in the first half left for Iowa State
in Arkansas State, the Arkansas State Red Wolves with a
ten to nine lead over the fourteenth thraining Cyclones, again
thirty seconds left in the first half there, and with
two minutes left in the first half of UTEP with
the ball but trailing seventh throaning Texas seventh to nothing,
arch Manning throw an interception on fourth and two. Malachi Nelson,
(01:04:46):
former five star quarterback out of the Southern California, is
the starter at UTEP. Oregon beat Northwestern by twenty Georgia
Tech with a twenty four to twenty one win over Clemson.
Clemson now with two losses in the season. They were
season fourth ranked in the AP Poll. Oklahoma with a
forty two to three lead win over Temple. Alabama beats
(01:05:08):
Wisconsin thirty eight to fourteen, Michigan sixty three to three
over Central Michigan, Auburn thirty one to fifteen over South Alabama,
and Missouri fifty two to ten over Louisiana Lafayette our
I Guess University of Louisiana now in Major League Baseball
Baltimore is a four to two lead over Toronto. On
(01:05:28):
the top of the ninth. Top of the seventh, the
Nationals lead, the Pirates won nothing. Tigers came from behind,
took the lead over the Marlins three to two on
the top of the fifth. Bottom of the fourth, Yankees three,
Red Sox nothing.
Speaker 4 (01:05:40):
Top of the.
Speaker 8 (01:05:41):
Fifth, the Rangers and the Mets still scoreless.
Speaker 4 (01:05:44):
Back to you, guys, Thanks, Martin. Appreciate that.
Speaker 2 (01:05:49):
We're going to continue on this conversation about the NFC
West sort of because our good friend play by Play
Extraordinaire part time DJ Adam is joining us and he
will be calling.
Speaker 4 (01:06:03):
Pittsburgh Seattle tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (01:06:06):
Adam, thank you so much for making time for us
through all of your prep and everything that you're doing.
Speaker 4 (01:06:11):
How are you, my friend, doing great?
Speaker 10 (01:06:13):
Guys? How are you guys doing?
Speaker 2 (01:06:15):
Oh so good, so good to hear your brother in
the dream we were talking about like how we don't
really know what to make of Seattle yet, which again
it's weak two.
Speaker 4 (01:06:22):
I probably don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:06:24):
I don't have to know what's going on with the
Seahawks quite yet, but some thrilling stuff in Pittsburgh last week,
as Aaron Rodgers got to take on his former team
and get that revenge.
Speaker 4 (01:06:35):
Uh, what do you What's what's the.
Speaker 2 (01:06:37):
Biggest thing that you're looking for in this game, Adam,
when you're looking at these storylines, are the Steelers for
real with Aaron Rodgers as their quarterback?
Speaker 10 (01:06:49):
I think the marriage between Arthur Smith and Aaron Rodgers
is probably the thing that folks here in Pittsburgh are
going to track for the rest of the year. Just
how did it work? What's the kind of a chain
of command in this? You know, this is a true
Arthur Smith play action based offense, you know, and I
think you know, there was a three year period where
Arthur was the head coach in Atlanta where it just
(01:07:11):
felt like he had the right concepts in mind. I
think he probably got a bad rap there because the
quarterback play not being as good in his last couple
of seasons. But last year in Pittsburgh, he's got Justin Fields,
he's got Russell Wilson, He's got to navigate a couple
of different styles of quarterback and they're still able to,
you know, win ten games. Not a lot of that
has to do with their defense, but to get a
(01:07:32):
guy like Aaron Rodgers who thrives in play action. Three
of his four touchdown passes last week around play action plays.
He's got, you know, real skill guys around him. I think,
you know, janeuz Smith is somebody that Arthur Smith really likes.
DK metcalf is playing his former team Battle. He's obviously
got to get a little bit more involved. I think
there's some promise here. For a team to put up
(01:07:53):
thirty plus in their first outing together was pretty impressive,
so I will be curious to see how that works
going forward. They're playing a little bit of I think
a pretty solid defense, a team that's probably going to
live off their defense in Seattle this season. So that's
kind of what we're taking a look at thirty thousand feet,
you know, perspective wise tomorrow.
Speaker 5 (01:08:16):
Adam, I've got two questions for you here. First of all,
when are you opening for John Summit?
Speaker 10 (01:08:23):
When the answer to that is, whenever you tell the
people that you know that this needs to happen, that's
when that's happening.
Speaker 5 (01:08:29):
And like, pull back the current a little bit here,
how hard is it actually to learn how to DJ?
I'll tell you every man in Los Angeles thinks he's
in aspiring DJ so I want to know actually the
art to it. I'm fascinated.
Speaker 10 (01:08:46):
I started doing it when I was thirteen, and I
started doing it on vinyl, like on real vinyl records
and everything like that. I had to learn how to
do it. If my brother bought me a par of
turntables in a mixture when I was thirteen, I you know,
we had to learn how to you know, use CD
mixers and CD players as a DJ equipment. As the
years went on, I used those when I was working weddings,
I was working homecoming dances, I was working proms, I
(01:09:11):
was doing events all over you know, the suburbs. Like
That's how it paid for my first year of college basically.
So I did it professionally for a while, and then
I enjoyed playing at clubs and I wanted to get
back into it. And as Carmen knows, she was there
for the first club gig I played in fact two
years ago. When I got back into it, it was
I had to relearn all the equipment, and I had
to relearn all the technology because it's advanced significantly in
(01:09:35):
the last you know, ten years since I had basically
stopped doing it. So it's still music though I grew
up on music. I played the violin from the time
I was six in the car when I was twelve.
I learned the piano about five years ago. Like, the
music's always been a part of my life, so relearning
the music was not a problem. It was just relearning
the technology.
Speaker 5 (01:09:54):
Adam, what don't you do?
Speaker 4 (01:09:56):
That's for real?
Speaker 5 (01:09:57):
Though I appreciate that that is incredible. It's officially on
my on my list to get to one of your gigs.
I think that's awesome and I'm really proud of you too.
I know that's not an easy thing to just dive
back into, so that's that's epic. But Adam, I want
I know you do Bulls play by play Chicago Bulls
(01:10:20):
play by play when you're not calling NFL games, which
is also incredible, an incredible testament to your your range.
But I just want to get your thoughts on on
what's going on with the Clippers and Steve Baumer's connection
to an alleged salary caps are convention there with Aspiration
and Kawhi Leonard.
Speaker 10 (01:10:41):
This is a fascinating story and I know a lot
of people following it the way you know that Pablotory
has been kind of breaking it along on his podcast
and kind of following along with it. It's very weird
to kind of consider this. This is something that happens
when you get to like just the highest levels of
possible networks, and this is where money gets funneled to.
I would be curious to know if this happens in
(01:11:02):
other sports and other organizations. Do I like, does it
affect what I do for a living day to day.
Probably not, but I do think it's a very strange circumstance.
And I imagine there are owners around the NBA. Imagine
there are general managers in particular around the NBA who
have to deal with a second apron. This last you know,
these last few years of the new CBA with his
second apron, it's kind of hamstrung a lot of different
(01:11:24):
NBA franchises and trying to dying guys. I'm okay with
that because I think that helps the parity of the
league and the distribution of talent. But this is a
way to circumvent that. If all of this is, you know,
all of the stuff that's allegedly been put out there
is true, this helps circumvent some of that. So for
teams that are struggling with salary cap issues second Apron
deal over the last couple of years. I imagine they
(01:11:47):
would be very frustrated by that. I again, I'm looking
at it from a very very wide perspective, but I
get the feeling that that's a conversation that's being had,
not just on the air between us right now.
Speaker 2 (01:11:59):
It's interesting pot latory. I just tweeted out the eyeball images.
Uh oh, we got another dump coming, and I'm like,
oh God, what else is coming.
Speaker 4 (01:12:07):
It's interesting though, because I mean.
Speaker 2 (01:12:09):
Theoretically all of that stuff that's been done with the
CBA has worked. When you look at the parody that
has increased in the league. When you look at the
last few champions in the NBA, it's all been different.
You finally kind of after years and years of like
kind of the same teams, now you're getting a lot
of parody. And I think that's a net good.
Speaker 10 (01:12:31):
I want to say, it's been seven straight years with
a different NBA champion at six or seven something like that.
So too, this is one of the longer stretches we've
seen probably in forty years basically, So I appreciate it, especially,
you know, working for a franchise that is in a
major market but hasn't really been as competitive as they'd
like to be. In the last parody, I do think
(01:12:52):
that it's good for the league to feel like you
need parody. I think it's good to see teams like
Indiana and Oklahoma City smaller you know, quote quote unquote,
smaller market teams that obviously have very passionate fan bases
and have organizations that want to invest in them. But
to see smaller market teams be able to make this
type of playoff push that we just saw and have
(01:13:12):
a pretty good shot at retaining a lot of their
assets and a lot of the players that they want
to keep around for a little while.
Speaker 4 (01:13:19):
Now.
Speaker 10 (01:13:19):
I know Sam Presty has kind of played this we
heard Houdini act with being able to stash draft picks
and save it for just this time. We're now, you know,
all this effort over a ten year period basically has
come to fruition and led to a championship. I do
like the parody in the league right now, and you know,
we get to Major League Baseball, it does feel like
there is parody, but it's so randomized because of the
(01:13:42):
shorter baseball series and you have a three game wildcard,
you have a five game division series. You know, the
best team doesn't always win in Major League Baseball. You
have to get into the postseason and then be the
hottest team and that's how you get you know, Arizona
getting to the World Series two years ago. I think
in the NBA it's less randomized. I think the skill
and the best talent usually went out. So for the
parody to be a parent in the NBA is probably
(01:14:06):
a little bit more important than maybe some other sports.
Speaker 2 (01:14:09):
Yeah, it's fascinating. All right, real quick, what are you
What are you getting it for dinner in Pittsburgh tonight?
Speaker 10 (01:14:14):
Oh yeah, Well see this is a little pull back
at the curtain. Like usually, like Friday nights, our crew
goes out. We did Argentinian and Argentinian steakhouse last night,
So Gotchapinia if you ever in Pittsburgh, it's really really good.
But tonight Saturday is when we have our big production
meeting that we're just hanging out at our hotel. We're
locking ourselves into a room. We watch all the tape pieces,
(01:14:35):
we look at all the graphics, We plan out what
we might want to say in the open and then
once kickoff comes, we basically all out the window depending
on what happens in the game. So that's what we're
looking forward to here in the next half hour.
Speaker 4 (01:14:46):
All right, well, let's just get some Primani brothers to
live it or something. I don't know. Adam, have so
much fun tomorrow. Call in the game. Really appreciate your time.
We'll talk to you soon.
Speaker 1 (01:14:55):
Thanks, charm Thanks Nick, Adam, I mean.
Speaker 2 (01:14:59):

what else I couldn't be happier about this is like
I love the ending the show with this segment, the
LOL moment of the week, l L, because.
Speaker 5 (01:16:19):
We all need to laugh, you know. I'll start us
off here.
Speaker 2 (01:16:23):
I was gonna say, I want you to start off
what what was your what made you laugh this week?
Speaker 5 (01:16:26):
So this is a little bit relevant because Texas just
scored over uteb arch Manning running it in for Thishong.
Speaker 2 (01:16:31):
Oh my god, Texas Twitter is melting down right now,
okaying melting down.
Speaker 5 (01:16:36):
Speaking of Texas Twitter, I alluded to this earlier in
the show, but I didn't have the exact quote in
front of me, so I didn't want to misquote our
our good old ball coach Stark here. But earlier this week,
you know, in response to Texas Twitter people had noticed
arch Manning grimacing when he was throwing the ball, you know,
and so some reporter followed up on that those out
(01:17:00):
and asked coach if if arch Manning was dealing with
an injury, and instead of start just responsing responding normally,
he he resorted to some toilet humor, quite literally, saying
he doesn't have any injuries. I don't know. I've never
filmed any of you guys when you're using the bathroom,
so I don't know what kind of faces you're making
(01:17:21):
when you are doing that.
Speaker 4 (01:17:22):
So I don't know what arch Manning is throwing a
foot right right?
Speaker 5 (01:17:26):
I right right? This is most like it's kind of
like a weird lol, like bro, what.
Speaker 4 (01:17:33):
Yeah, I mean that still makes me laugh.
Speaker 5 (01:17:36):
Laugh Like it's not that deep. It's not that deep.
Speaker 2 (01:17:40):
Oh man, No, I mean Texas Twitter right now in
real come melting down everything about how Texas isn't good enough,
Arch isn't good enough.
Speaker 4 (01:17:49):
This is supposed to be a tune up game, and
it's true. It's UTEP, it's UTEP.
Speaker 2 (01:17:53):
If you have serious title aspirations, yes, then you should
be handling this no problem.
Speaker 5 (01:18:01):
And I mean that was heralded as a preseason Heisman favorite.
Without everything, this is crazy.
Speaker 4 (01:18:07):
That's why I don't like, you know, assigning.
Speaker 2 (01:18:09):
I get that, you know, the bloodline and all of
that kind of stuff, and you he's had every resource
available to him, but like, at the end of the day,
what let the kid do something first before you crown him.
I just that's not that's not fair. Mine is also
collegeable related. Actually, before I get to my actual one,
I just because I just saw this on Blue Sky
the Organ Duck, because I mean, at that point in
(01:18:32):
the game of three minutes left in the fourth quarter,
uh Organ was up thirty four to seven on Northwestern,
and the Organ Duck decided to get some reading done
and was reading The Fourth Ring, the Fourth Wing book
leaning up against like a little thing on the sideline.
Speaker 5 (01:18:46):
This duck is causing a lot of headlines this season.
Speaker 2 (01:18:49):
Who knew was into you know, the the I don't
know what what do people call the I mean it's
book talk. Yeah, he's like or the Oregon Duck officially
is on book talk if they're reading, if he's reading
Fourth Wing, hilarious, No, Okay, So my actual one though,
is it happened this morning. Alabama head coach Kaylen Debora
was on college Game Day, uh phoning in for an
(01:19:11):
interview from Tuscaloosa, and as he was being interviewed, the
crowd around game day started doing the FSU war chant
like they are not Like Kaylan was obviously getting ready,
He's in Tuscalusa getting ready for Wisconsin. Game Day was
not there. This was on a TV screen, but they
did it loud enough that the mics were all picking
(01:19:33):
it up. So as Kaylen debor is doing this interview,
they are doing the FSU war chant and it is
I'm like, it is an elite level trolling job for
those that don't know. Alabama lost to it then unranked
FSU at Florida State program and we two weeks ago,
(01:19:53):
and I mean Florida now that law. I mean not
that that loss isn't bad for Alabama. And I still
think that Kaylen to momore is very much on the
hot seat there. But Florida State looks a lot better
than we maybe thought they were, so I don't know,
they could be a sneaky.
Speaker 5 (01:20:10):
This is why we love game.
Speaker 4 (01:20:11):
We love it.
Speaker 2 (01:20:12):
I was I was laughing hysterically. I'm like, you know
what that is, just that it's because there's there's layers
to it and he's not even there. And even then
when they decided to do the preview for Alabama Wisconsin, Uh,
the crowd started doing it again. So like it's I
love college football fans, I love college football.
Speaker 4 (01:20:29):
The tradition of all of this is exactly why we
do it.
Speaker 2 (01:20:32):
So thank you all so much for joining us today
on Fox Football Saturday. I'm Carmen Battally. That's Nikki kay I.
Hope you have a wonderful night. And you know what
Go Tig is
