Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Welcome, Welcome, Welcome. It is another Fox Football Saturday. I
am your host, Carmen Vitally and with me this week
we have Tracy Sandler, back CEO of Fangirl Sports Network
and forty nine Ers beat reporter. Tracy. How's it going on,
my friend?
Speaker 3 (00:20):
It is going well, how are you?
Speaker 4 (00:22):
I'm dancing in here by myself. Just in case you
want to imagine.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
That, it's okay, I'm dancing in here by myself. So
we're just gonna dance together. But miles apart. Tracy is
in our Los Angeles studios. I am live in Chicago, Illinois,
and we have a great show for you today. We're
taking you all around the NFL for Week three. We're
still in the early aughts of the season, so things
are still very topsy turvy. Don't know what to make
(00:48):
of so many different teams, but we have Kelsey Conway
from the Cincinnati Inquirer joining us, as well as Rachel
Hotmeyer from CBS Detroit. Very very fun things to talk
about with the teams. So be sure to subscribe to
this Fox Sports Radio YouTube channel because if you missed
any of today's show, you can just search Fox Sports
(01:08):
Radio on YouTube and you'll see our best videos from
all of our shows. And don't stop there, hit the
thumbs up icon and comment away. Let us know whose
takes you like and even those that you.
Speaker 5 (01:17):
Don't, but you're gonna like all of ours, obviously.
Speaker 2 (01:20):
Just search Fox Sports Radio on YouTube and subscribe. So, Tracy,
this first segment is gonna hit very near and dear
to your heart because there has been with the topsy
turbinus of like the beginning of the season also comes
some catastrophic and season altering injuries for not only players
(01:41):
but teams. And I feel like in the beginning two
weeks of this season we have seen more than our
fair share of quarterback like, specifically quarterback injuries that are
now completely changing the trajectory of so many different teams.
And one of those is dear and dear to your heart.
(02:01):
Although he may play this Sunday, Brock Party.
Speaker 4 (02:04):
Not I thought you were talking about Jag McCarthy and
I was like, I don't think he's playing on Sunday.
Speaker 2 (02:08):
No, he's definitely not playing on Sunday. But Brock Party might.
Speaker 3 (02:12):
Not start, not to start, highly unlikely.
Speaker 4 (02:14):
Kyle Shannon said that he starts, he could be the
number two, the backup quarterback, or the third emergency quarterback.
Speaker 3 (02:21):
Which, if I may, I find I don't know if ironic.
Speaker 4 (02:24):
Is the right word, but he could be the third
emergency quarterback. And there would not be a third emergency
quarterback if not for what happened to Brock Party and
the forty nine Ers in the Nitty Championship against the Eagles,
so full circle.
Speaker 3 (02:36):
I don't know what to make of that.
Speaker 2 (02:37):
Oh gosh, well not to mention. I mean, it's not
like Brock is the only injury that the forty nineers
are dealing with right now. They've been hit hard by
the injury Buck already, and that's like what that's what
doomed them last season. Like, doesn't seem like they can
catch a break.
Speaker 3 (02:50):
It definitely does not.
Speaker 4 (02:51):
In twenty twenty three, they were so lucky on injuries,
and I think they were the healthiest team in the league,
and of course went to the Super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (02:58):
But this harm karma comes for all of us.
Speaker 4 (03:02):
Maybe it's bizarre this team is constantly dealing with so
many injuries, and yes they are dealing with a number
of them. George Kittle on IR Juwan Jennings questionable tomorrow
with an ankle injury, Spencer Burford out, Connor Colby now
questionable with a groin injury. Ben Barsche's are all offensive
(03:23):
lineman for people who aren't as ingrained to the four
hundred design. Ben BArch went to IR, I mean, it's
just it's bananas.
Speaker 2 (03:30):
It is well, and that severely affects mac Jones now,
who will start for the forty nine ers against the
Arizona Cardinals and that defense. So I'm very interested to
see how this goes. I mean, he completed what twenty
three or thirty four passes for two hundred and fifty
three yards and two touchdowns against zone coverage in particular
and Week two against the Saints, So as long as
there are Zona decides to play zone, I think mac
(03:53):
Jones is gonna be okay. But he threw just two
touchdown passes and six interceptions against zone in twenty twenty four,
which I it's that's gonna be the resurgence of mac Jones. Man.
Speaker 4 (04:04):
He also had a better O line last week or
a less injured OH line last week, so.
Speaker 3 (04:08):
This will be interesting to see.
Speaker 4 (04:09):
It'd be very interesting to see and that's no disrespect
to Mac Jones. But I think something we are also
seeing throughout the league is O lines matter, guys, they
matter a lot.
Speaker 2 (04:17):
It's almost like I've made it, My life's worked. It
almost is I understand that.
Speaker 3 (04:21):
Maybe now people were really, really truly listened to you.
Speaker 2 (04:24):
I didn't want people to have to learn the hard way.
But good God, and someone else who's learned the hard
way over the course of his career, Joe Burrow is
another one of these quarterbacks that I am. I am devastated. Tracy, Yeah,
because Joe Burrow, Cincinnati Bengals quarterback. It's cruel. A year
removed from leading the league in passing yards and touchdowns
forty three touchdowns. Last year, he won Comeback Player of
(04:46):
the Year and it was totally wasted by a horrific
defense in Cincinnati. And now that maybe I'm not saying
this with any conviction for the record, but maybe the
defense is just merely bad. Joe Burrow and gets turftoe.
And for those that don't know what turfto is actually,
Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce went through what it is
(05:07):
on their podcast this week because a listener called in
and said, like what exactly is turftoe because it sounds
like the most like cartoonish injury and it's not. It's
absolutely horrific. And it's the tendon in your big toe,
which is what you push off of, it's how you walk,
it's how you do anything athletic that can get sprained,
(05:27):
it can get torn, and that is what's classified as
turf toe, from just a sprain all the way up
to a tear. And so I guess Joe Burrow had
a very severe case of turf toe that's sidelining him
for the foreseeable future. I just I can't say anything
about his legacy, like I'm not going to talk about
how this could like affect his legacy because I just
(05:48):
think he's such a fun quarterback and the little lizard
part of my brain is just like, well, he didn't
achieve college immortality until his last year of eligibility, and
that was after he transferred to LSU, won the Natty
and everything was all hunky dory. So I am hoping
that maybe this is just kind of the universe's cruel
way of like bringing that back around but in the NFL,
(06:10):
because I cannot quit Joe Burrow, and I will not quit.
Speaker 3 (06:12):
Joe Burrow, absolutely not, and I don't think he should
be quit.
Speaker 4 (06:15):
It's just it's very unfortunate and there are a lot
of factors that go into it, not the least of
which being the O line, which which I think we're
both are.
Speaker 2 (06:23):
In which they cannot seem to get a serviceable O
line in front of this man.
Speaker 3 (06:27):
I don't know how you do that.
Speaker 4 (06:28):
I don't know how you invest in Joe Burrow when
you have are you believe one of.
Speaker 3 (06:32):
The top are receivers for that matter, and is receivers.
Speaker 4 (06:35):
You have one of the top quarterbacks, Like how do
you not invest in protecting Joe Burrow? I just I
don't understand it at all. I will never understand it.
And when you said that about transferring to LSU, this
is not gonna happens.
Speaker 3 (06:48):
Like maybe Joe Burrow needs to be traded somewhere where
they respect offensive lines.
Speaker 2 (06:53):
Like that's all I want, But well maybe it will.
Maybe that's like the I was almost you know, the
whole Marches T Higgins saga, and like Joe Burrow drew
like a hard line in the sand reportedly where he
was like if you don't resign Tea like I don't
like and jamar like I don't want to be here,
and I'm like, I almost wish they didn't the Bengals
didn't do that, because then maybe that would have forced
Joe Burrow to like make some moves and go elsewhere
(07:15):
and force a trade and then he could have gone
somewhere where they find value in the big man up front,
the big sexies. I just it's so it's so unfortunate
because he's such a huge talent. And then you also
but like, I mean, you just have to spend money
if the Cincinnati Bengals, because also that defense needs to
just be like if they could be average, that would
(07:38):
be above and beyond what our hope is currently for
that unit. But like, this is an offense that, when
Joe Burrow is at the helm and healthy, is capable
of scoring thirty points at least weekend, when week out.
And the fact that last year they were doing that
had the most potent, one of the most potent offenses
in the league, and they still couldn't even get to
(07:59):
the playoffs. I mean, it was an absolute crime by
the defense.
Speaker 3 (08:04):
If it was, it was absolute, right.
Speaker 2 (08:07):
I was so angry. Okay, that's not it where we're
not even we're not even close quarterback injuries. We've got
Jane Daniels in Washington, which is also like that hurts
my heart because he started at ASU, he went to LSU.
I'm marrying into the LSG fan base. So Jayden is
like our very high overachieving son. My fiance and I
(08:27):
no relation whatsoever, But this is this is our this
is our dude. And he was so much fun last
year and he hadn't been you know, he he I
don't know like his he he wasn't doing through the
first two weeks of the season. He wasn't doing the
things that like wowed you last year. Because like, one
of the things that was incredible, especially for such a
(08:48):
young player, was how good he was against the Blitz
last year. And then through two weeks, Jane Daniels completed
just six of nineteen pass attempts thirty one point six
percent against the Blitz, which is the lowest completion percentage
in the league. And granted, like I mean, he probably
want to get against the Packers, who all of a
sudden rediscovered what a pass rush is, and he was
blitzed twelve times, only completed three of ten passes and
(09:10):
a career low thirty percent completion percentage, So like he
hadn't been up to some of the level that we
saw last year, but you had to think that he
was going to keep getting better, and now they have
to pull him.
Speaker 4 (09:21):
For Marcus Mariota for dot dot dot Marcus Mariota.
Speaker 3 (09:27):
Hopefully it's a knee injury.
Speaker 4 (09:29):
It doesn't sound because you know, now I'm a doctor
and a trainer, it doesn't sound terribly serious. But you know,
as someone who has now covered the NFL this is
my tenth season, you can't really believe that one way
or the other, because sometimes things that aren't terribly serious
turn into an ir turn into one season ending injury.
Hopefully that it's not the case here. Sometimes they don't,
(09:50):
so time will tell, But for now it's the Marcus
Mariota Commanders.
Speaker 2 (09:55):
Yeah, and again you talked about an offensive line that
just I didn't I wanted them to do more there
even before Jayde got hurt. And then like this is
one of those things that maybe it lingers or like
it reminds me a lot of like what happened to
Jordan Love last year, which it wasn't specifically a me necessarily,
but like he had a couple of injuries where it
(10:16):
just kind of like stunted his momentum for the season,
and like it is, it's hard to get back into
the swing of things if you have to kind of
start stop start stop. So like hoping that this doesn't
keep Jane out too long and that he is afforded
or somewhat of a ramp up period to get back
in Still not it, Nope, Still JJ McCarthy also out
(10:38):
one thing Tracy that couldn't happen happened.
Speaker 3 (10:42):
I did it.
Speaker 2 (10:43):
G G.
Speaker 4 (10:44):
McCarthy needs reps like this For those of you who
are like it's a soft benching, No it is not.
They are invested in him. This man needs to play quarterback.
He needs the reps, and then he gets hurt behind No,
granted they've had some o line injuries, but behind a
terrible line in which two of them went out during
the game Sunday night and J. J. McCarthy at one
(11:05):
point limped off the field. And I was on an
airplane and I turned to the guy saying next to me,
and I was like, did he just limp off the field?
Did that look to you like he limped off the field.
He was like, ma'am, I don't know. I need you
to take a breath. I was like, does that look well?
I will not take a breath. I think he just
limped on the field. But this is not what they need.
They need him playing football, and this is the worst
(11:26):
thing I know. They say think that, They say two
to four weeks.
Speaker 3 (11:29):
Hopefully it won't be that long.
Speaker 2 (11:32):
It's more than four.
Speaker 4 (11:33):
Maybe it's more hopefully it's more two than four, because
otherwise you have a starch his career in which the
first season he gets hurt and is out the entire season.
The next season he plays two games and he's art
and he needs reps.
Speaker 3 (11:45):
And I think everybody knows.
Speaker 4 (11:47):
I feel very much believe in JJ McCarthy, but he
does have to actually be playing football, and this is
not This is pretty much the worst thing that could
have happened for them.
Speaker 2 (11:55):
No, I'm totally with you, because he took all the
mental reps last year. You can't you can't use that
as like a building block anymore. You took all the
mental reps you could possibly need last year. Now you
need to go out and actually execute. And we saw,
you know, he can fight through just tremendous adversity when
you're talking about in a game. Look at that Bears
game on Monday night where he played horribly for three
(12:15):
quarters and then came back to lead the team to
a to a win and to take advantage of the defense.
He looked calm, cool, collected. He got his guys going.
He has that like leadership, Jennie Quah, that is so
incredibly important, but like you have to be on the
field building that rapport through executing the scheme. And I
just this is the one thing that you were just like,
(12:36):
just don't get hurt, stay healthy this year and so
far that hasn't happened. And yet we're still not done.
Speaker 3 (12:42):
Still we have one more.
Speaker 2 (12:47):
At least, I mean yeah. And then you have you
have Justin Fields now in New York, who got knocked
out of the Bills game with the concussion. The game
had not been going well for Justin uh prior to
the concussion. He was three of eleven twenty seven yards
before he got knocked out. I yeah, not literally, I
don't think he literally got knocked out. I don't mean
to phrase it that way. It was he is dealing
(13:08):
with a concussion. That is really scary stuff. The way
Justin Fields plays, it leaves him prone to these kinds
of injuries because of how much he can't tuck the
ball and run, how tough of a runner he is,
how big of a guy he is. And it's unfortunate
because week one we were all like, oh my god,
is Justin Fields fixed? Because in New York he like
against Pittsburgh sixteen or twenty two, two hundred and eighteen
(13:29):
yards and a touchdown. He looked comfortable in the offense,
he was executing. He ran I don't have the rushing
numbers in front of me, but he ran a significant
amount to get them, you know, to extend drives. And
you were like, okay, this is how you play Justin Fields.
This is how you get him comfortable. And now again
it's like, all right, you go out there one week,
(13:49):
could do well. It wasn't going well in the second week.
So you're like, what what are you still? Was that
just a flash? Are you coming back down to earth? Now?
We don't know, and we don't know how long he
is gonna be out with the concussion.
Speaker 4 (14:01):
Yeah, And that's and that's the thing with the NFL,
and it's it's so fun to do for all of us.
We watch a player in one week like he's back,
he's amazing, he's the greatest quarterback of all time. Then
the next week he should be benched, he shouldn't even
be allowed in the building. Like this is we do
it as fans, we do it all the time. But
it's it's part of it. But that's it is a
very what do we say, it's a week to week league, Carmen,
(14:21):
and that really is very much the same. Now, I
will admit that after that fourth quarter with jaj McCarthy,
it was like, he's obviously the greatest quarterback of all time,
give him the MVP, and let's just shut this thing
down right now.
Speaker 3 (14:31):
So I am that person.
Speaker 4 (14:32):
But we do that and it just is too bad
because I think in all of the in a lot
of situations, especially with Jade and Daniel justin Field and
JJ McCarthy, you're dealing with people that we don't know
yet and they need the opportunity to show what they are,
who they are, what they can do, and this kind
of stuff, it's it's obviously the very tough part of
football in the NFL, but this kind of stuff is
just kind of heartbreaking because they can't. They can't show
(14:54):
what they do. And Justin Fields in some ways even
more so because, like you said, is the who he is.
Did he find his place? It would be great for
him to be able to see that, and of course
now no, he can't, and he went to Ohio States.
Speaker 3 (15:07):
That was big of me to say that.
Speaker 2 (15:08):
I feel that was big of you. Yes, Michel noted
Michigane Tracy Sandler, Tarat Taylor will be starting in place
of Justin Fields for the New York Juts. We are
going to talk about this week coming up week three,
few games here and there. Right on the other side

season brings, or even if you're watching college right now,
I mean there's some there's some fun stuff going on
right now, you might be a little stressed out, and
that was just just a little bit of an antidote.
Speaker 5 (16:36):
It was nice.
Speaker 2 (16:38):
It was nice.
Speaker 3 (16:38):
I feel very tranquil and calm.

the air. Now, let's talk about tomorrow and the rest
of Week three. Good great slate. You know, we had
the Thursday night game, which was kind of your typical
Thursday night game. But I want to talk about a
few of these games coming up here. So Rams Eagles,
(17:27):
I think this is two of you know, this was
these two NFC playoff teams last year. Obviously the defending
champion in Philadelphia. Eagles. Very interested to see how this
one goes because I really I think these teams are
actually like on paper, they're really well matched. I think
(17:47):
we all know what happened with Jalen Carter for the
Philadelphia Eagles and their defense before the first play from scrimmage.
Ejected from the Dallas Cowboys game for spitting on Dak Prescott.
But then Jalen Carter last week proceeded to play forty
five of the eagles fifty seven defensive snaps seventy eight
point nine percent in Week two, and most among their
defensive linemen. He also tied for the team lead with
(18:09):
Zack Baond with three pressures across thirty three pass rushes
in the game. So came back with a vengeance, as
we all knew we would. He is the Eagle's best
defender and now will be obviously active for this Rams game.
I'm very interested to see how this goes for Matt Stafford,
because I am not do we think that he's He's okay.
(18:29):
I mean he was at Kershaw's thing.
Speaker 4 (18:30):
He was he as was I actually, but I did
not see Matthew Stafford in persons. He didn't say with him,
I did not say with him. But he was on
the big screen. So that is why I can confirm
you know that.
Speaker 2 (18:39):
Matt Stafford and Clean Kershaw.
Speaker 3 (18:41):
Went wait what together?
Speaker 2 (18:42):
Wait? No, really did you see did you see both
the Rams and the Lions get in on it?
Speaker 7 (18:48):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (18:48):
I thought that was actually pretty funny.
Speaker 2 (18:49):
The Rams quote tet It is like did you know
they went to high school together? And the Rams were like,
oh my god. The Lions were like, oh my god,
that's such a fun stat.
Speaker 3 (18:55):
Yeah, that was that was really really funny.
Speaker 4 (18:58):
And he was there, and I mean he was sitting
there watching game.
Speaker 3 (19:03):
He looked he looked fine.
Speaker 4 (19:04):
But you know the thing for him is going to
be kind of what we talked about before they got
to protect him.
Speaker 2 (19:09):
Yes, and I came across the stat on next Gen
and of the twelve completions when targeting the slot last
this season so far, so through the first couple of games,
seven of them have been on passes over ten air yards,
which is tied for the most of the NFL. Which
is like, okay, Matt Stafford back, But the Eagles defense
has allowed the second two s yards per attempt and
a thirty three point three percent success rate on passes
(19:31):
targeted to the slot, which is tied for the second
lowest rate in the NFL. So this is like, okay.
The thing that Matt Stafford is doing really really well
right now is something the Eagles are very very very
good at defending, and.
Speaker 4 (19:45):
There's very much there's the problem. As they say, it's
gonna be very interesting now. Something the Eagles are not
doing great at offensively is passing the ball.
Speaker 3 (19:56):
I mean hurts.
Speaker 4 (19:57):
It is yet to attempt to pass between ten and
nineteen years this season. So they have two complations over
ten yards through two weeks. So for the Rams part,
spoiler alert, Make Jalen Hurst throw the ball and you
may be in pretty good shape here.
Speaker 2 (20:11):
Right and limit what Matt Stafford can do down the field, yes,
and against you know, to the slot.
Speaker 4 (20:17):
And this is why they're so well matched, by the way,
because it they do know it's gonna be It's really
gonna be a fun game too.
Speaker 2 (20:22):
I mean I could, I could go on for an
hour as to like the stats of like what the
Eagles do well, what the Rams do well, and how
that like it directly contradicts each other. So it's like, Okay,
who's gonna win? And so I think it's a really
it'll be a really great matchup. Another great one Lions Ravens.
And here's the big thing with this matchup is the
Ravens have quite a few key injuries going into this game.
(20:44):
Nobdie Matta, Bouquet, Kyle van Noy, Isaiah likely pat Ricard
all out for this game against the Alliance, which is
a big deal because the Lions theoretically, and I know
they played the Bears last week, theoretically have like found
their groove again. Where you know, I I never thought
that they were as bad as they looked against the
Packers in Week one. Still, I don't think they're necessarily
(21:05):
as good as they looked against the Bears. You know,
I don't think they're gonna drop fifty two points on
every people and on everybody, or fifty three points.
Speaker 5 (21:11):
Excuse me, but no, it's fifty two.
Speaker 2 (21:15):
It was fifty two. They only have Marcus Stavenport out now,
Taylor Decker Kirby Joseph questionable for that game. But I'd
be shocked if either of those guys don't play. And
it seems like, you know, they know what this offense
is supposed to look like now under John Morton, new
offensive coordinator. They also know what this defense is supposed
to look like, not only under Kelvin Shepherd, who was
elevated to defensive coordinator had been the team's linebackers coach.
(21:38):
But they have Adan Hutchinson back. Yeah, and that is
the domino effect from Adan Hutchinson being back is tremendous,
especially when you are dealing with some injuries in the secondary.
But you have two of the best safeties in the
league in Kirby Joseph and Brian Branch. I'm just I'm
very interested to see how this goes for Lamar and
company when they have so much any they have two
(22:01):
very key defensive injuries in Nadi Matta Bouquet and Kylevin Noy,
but like I mean, Isaiah Likely, who was kind of
Lamar's one of those safety blankets. Like Isaiah Likely's catch
radius is just insane. And then pat Riccard who's three
hundred pound full back. I mean, there's no like he
can do. He can he can allow you to do
some things offensively that like no one other team can.
So I'm very interested to see how that one goes.
(22:24):
And then here in Chicago, Cowboys Bears.
Speaker 4 (22:28):
Well, and this brings up a question that I have
for you on the Bears, because we were just talking
about the Lions and we said, well, you know it
was against the Bears, and the Vikings first game was
against the Bears.
Speaker 3 (22:40):
Are the Bears destined to this season?
Speaker 4 (22:42):
Sylvia the team where the caveat two wins are, Well,
it was against the Bears.
Speaker 2 (22:47):
I don't think so. Okay, but I do think that
for the time being, it's going to still be that.
Ben Johnson said this week I was at Hollis. He
said this week, like they are going to be playing
their best football in December, and I don't think are
going to play their best football until December. It's probably true,
which is understandable given the tremendous amount of turnover that
they've gone through. The Ben Johnson Kayleb Williams experiment is
(23:10):
just that, it's an experiment. We're going to see how
this goes. But they have a ton of the Bears
have a ton of secondary injuries right now, and Dak
Prescott actually has passing and receiving options so this year.
So we're gonna see how that goes at Soldier Field.
But for we're also going to see what's going on
in the world of college football right now. With an
(23:31):
update break from Martin Wiss.
Speaker 8 (23:39):
That's right, college football is start in the top twenty
five at halftime Oregon and Oregon State. The Ducks with
a twenty one too. I just refer twenty one to
seven lead at halftime right there. That's on Big ten Network.
Oregon the sixth ring team in the nation. Dante War
with two touchdown passes Florida State with a thirty five
to seven lead over Kent State. There is twelve minutes
(24:02):
left in the first half there, Thanks for coming out
Golden Flashes at the end of the first quarter. Auburn
in Oklahoma. That's a top twenty five ETSC matchup. It's
three apiece, seven minutes left in the first half, two
lane with the ball third and twelve. They trail Old Miss,
the thirteenth three team in the nation, by thirteen. Michigan
with a ten nothing lead over Nebraska on the road
(24:24):
at Nebraska, Michigan just fumbling with Bryce on quarterback Bryce
Underwood thirteen minutes left in the first half. There twelve
minutes left in the first half for Notre Dame and Perdue.
Notre Dame with a fourteen to ten lead. In Major
League Baseball, we saw the Nationals and the Mets. We
have the Nationals with a two to nothing lead over
(24:44):
New York and right now Bill Belichick and the North
Carolina tar Heels are trailing UCF ten to nothing. Go
Lopez with an interception. Thus far, it's not looking good
for Bill Belichick in that program.
Speaker 2 (25:01):
So back to you guys. Oh, thank you, Martin. Appreciate that.
I can't say that any of us didn't see that coming,
or can I you can? I can I can? Before
we get before we get to our guests, the Harlem
Globe Trotters, this isn't just a game, It's a once
in a generation event. The Harlem Globetrotter's one hundred year Tour.
(25:25):
Come be a part of a legacy that never stops.
Be there when history is made. The Harlem Globetrotters one
hundred Year Tour. Get your tickets today at Harlem globetrotters
dot com. And now joining us from Cincinnati to talk
more about our beloved joe Chicy. It is Kelsey Conway
of the Cincinnati Enquirer. Kels, how's it going.
Speaker 7 (25:46):
Hi friends, How are you guys good?
Speaker 2 (25:48):
All you kills good?
Speaker 7 (25:50):
I'm actually in Minnesota, so I'm joining you from Minnesota.
Speaker 5 (25:54):
Yes today that tracks.
Speaker 2 (25:58):
Have so much fun at the game tomorrow because I
love that stadium. It's my favorite in the NFL. But
I need to talk to you about Joey b and
just what the vibes are right now in Cincinnati for
the within in the Bengals facility. I mean, like after
last year getting so incredibly like his performance, getting so
wasted by just a god allful defense, and now he
(26:21):
gets back and you're like, Okay, we're going to do
this this time, and now it's turf doo.
Speaker 7 (26:27):
Yeah, I think you hit it. The one thing I've
thought about this whole thing is manned day waste. Last year,
I mean, Joe Burrow was an MVP finalist, Jamar Chase
wins the Triple Crown, Tree Hendrickson leads the league in sacks,
and they missed the playoffs. But the mood I would
say Sunday night was the saddest I've ever felt the
(26:50):
locker room. And that's you know, that's included like losing
the Super Bowl, losing the AFC Championship game. Like I
went and talked to Ted Carris and Orlando Brown, to
the Bengals starting offensive lineman, and they were just so
sad and upset and angry because they knew, like as
you were saying, Carmen, like this was supposed to be
(27:12):
the year that they put it all together. He finally
got through a training camp healthy and didn't have an injury.
And it wasn't just like the bare minimum like Rock Purty,
where you're going to be out a couple of weeks
because it's not that bad of a turf toe injury.
It had to be the grade three and so I
think it went from sad and angry even Monday a
little bit, it felt that way talking to coaches and players,
(27:36):
and then by Wednesday, it really felt normal because the
locker room is so used to Jake Browning. Jake Browning
has been with this team for a while. The players
have seen him when he went four and three as
a starter down the stretch, when Joe had that risk injury.
So I will say like it felt normal again on Wednesday,
(27:57):
But it's only going to feel that way if they
keep this moving. I think it would be a different
story if you know, they go zero and four in
these next four weeks and then you're starting to wonder,
like what does the rest of the season even look like?
Speaker 4 (28:12):
Well, and you look, you look at a game in
car Man mentioned it's one of the best stadiums in
the league in it absolutely is. It's also a tough
stadium to play in and with a tough defense. I
know the Vikings are dealing with a lot of injuries too,
But when you looked at tomorrow specifically, what do they
need Jake Browning to do to keep them in it
and to ensure that they don't start going oh and
for tomorrow, If that made.
Speaker 7 (28:31):
Sense, I think that it's just like he can't turn
the ball over in that in that stadium, and obviously
that's easier said than done. But Carson Wentz is a
good enough quarterback that I give him more opportunities. He's
been in the league long enough to know what to
do with the ball. So I think I think the
(28:52):
Bengals are going to win, and I think it's because
they're gonna have a game plan that they really set
up Jake Browning from having to make a lot of
difficult throws, like they have two of the best receivers
in the NFL. So I think it's on the Bengals
coaching staff to create a game plan tomorrow that doesn't
make Jake have to do a lot and really just
(29:12):
put the ball in the hands of the guys that
you paid forty and thirty million dollars to. Whether that
be get getting them the ball in creative ways, I
don't know what they'll do, but for me, with Jake Brownie,
I just think you can't turn the ball over. You
might get one, but it can't be, you know, a
two or three interception day, because as you guys both know,
in that stadium, the crowds can get behind you and
(29:36):
that could really be an issue. So that's kind of
the main key for me for tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (29:41):
I mean, I want to talk specifically too about the
Vikings defense and who Jake brown is going to be facing,
because it's Brian Flores and it's what Brian Flores can do,
and the simulated pressures and how often that they're presenting,
you know, five guys on the line, which is something
they've been doing a lot this season already, whether or
not they actually blitz and it's it can be incredibly confusing.
(30:01):
But do you think that Jake Browning's experience up and
to this point, like you said, he's no stranger in
that locker room, do you think that that's enough to
contend with something that can get as confusing as what
Brian Flores is going to present.
Speaker 7 (30:15):
Yeah, because actually two years ago when Jake filled in
for Burrow, they had a late season game against the
Vikings and the Bengals was actually one. So they're no
stranger to what Brian Flores likes to do. And I
think that they're going to have a really good plan
for it, So I do think he's going to be
able to handle it. I wouldn't feel as good about
(30:36):
this if it was you know, a one or two
year backup who's not been in the league.
Speaker 2 (30:41):
That long.
Speaker 7 (30:42):
It's like Jake's been here in Cincinnati, He's already beaten
the Vikings defense with Brian Flores. It doesn't mean that,
you know, Brian Forest isn't gonna have different stuff up
to leave this time around. But I genuinely think Jake
Browning thinks he can go in there and win, and
that the team thinks that they can go in there
and win, especially against this defense. So I don't feel
(31:03):
like it's lip service, you know how Sometimes it's like, oh,
got to keep the ship moving. Like I actually think
that they think that they can go in and win
with him tomorrow against that defense.
Speaker 4 (31:12):
This might sound kind of like an odd question, but
when you talk about how they're so familiar with Jake
Browning at this point, isn't that some ways, maybe blessing
and a curse isn't the right term, but it just
speaks to how often or Joe Burrow has gotten hurt
that by Wednesday they're like, well, we know what we
got Jake Browning.
Speaker 3 (31:30):
He does this all the time. Is that kind of
a tough thing?
Speaker 7 (31:34):
Yeah, I mean that's like you're done on with that.
It's one of those things where it's unfortunate because it's
happened so often. But it's kind of like, well, here
we go again, and at least they have someone who
the rist thing was that was different because it was
later in the season and they didn't know what they
had and Jake. This one is just especially weird because
(31:56):
we got six quarters of Joe Burrow healthy this year
before there's another almost. I mean, they're not throwing the
idea of him coming back, you know, out the window,
but I mean it's gonna be until at least mid
December before he can do anything. And at that point,
you just don't know where the Bengals are going to be.
Speaker 9 (32:15):
So would he come back? You don't know.
Speaker 7 (32:17):
But like you're saying, Tracy, it's like everybody's kind of
used to it, but that's not something that you want
to be proud of. So it's just a very bizarre situation.
Speaker 2 (32:26):
All right. So what you're in Minnesota already? What's what's
on the menu tonight? Where are you going to dinner?
Speaker 7 (32:32):
I don't know? Actually, I mean, do you guys have
any recommendations? Does Minnesota have Minneapola something that?
Speaker 2 (32:39):
Boy? Do I go to Matt's if you want to?
Jesse to Lucy. Juicy Lucy is their famous burger. It's
got the cheese on the inside of the burger. Be
very careful. I've burned myself on it. But Matt's is
purports to be the originator of the Juicy Lucy and
I think is the best one in Minneapolis. And then
if you want to stay, go to Manny's Manny' Steakhouses,
Like I said, I said, at the bar, they get
(33:00):
your nice Midwestern poor of wine. They set you up
with the whole shebang and the steak right there at
the bar. It's phenomenal.
Speaker 7 (33:06):
Oh okay, I would sound like the vibe I'm going for.
Speaker 4 (33:09):
I would agree with Botham. Can I ask a really,
really silly question, do we have time?
Speaker 3 (33:14):
It's clear, Kelsey.
Speaker 4 (33:16):
Do you see the similarities between Conrad Fisher and Joe Burrow.
Speaker 7 (33:22):
I'm someone who watched the summer I turn pretty every
week by the end I saw. I've seen some of
those pictures. It's eerily similar.
Speaker 2 (33:33):
It's bananas, right, yeah, wid this is why you joined
Fox Football Saturdays, and this is why Fox Football Saturdays
are for the girls. Kelsey, thank you so so much
for joining us today. I hope you help go out
and have a really nice dinner tonight. Enjoy us Bank Stadium.
Like I said, it's one of the best game presentations
in the league. And yeah, good luck to I like,
(33:55):
thank you for commiserating with Joe Burrow about Joe Burrow,
because I'm devastated.
Speaker 7 (34:01):
I can't wait to watch Gike Browning and Carson Wentz tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (34:04):
As we all predicted for this Week three matchup.
Speaker 2 (34:08):
Exactly. Thanks kill Hi k oh Man, what a no.
I can't even all right, well, on the other side
of this, we're gonna do the dues and the don't
so stick around. You're listening to Fox Football Saturday more
real chill. I don't know is this is this the
producers telling us Tracy that we're like, we're too stressed,
(34:31):
stressed out, and we need like to take it down
a notch.
Speaker 5 (34:37):
Relaxed.
Speaker 2 (34:39):
Seriously, can I just have this to fall asleep too?
Hopefully you're not falling asleep there listening. I'm calming vitally,
that's Tracy Sandler. That voice that you heard, I think
was Bo Benson. I'm it's I've got a squad box
of college football right now. Nothing that's stressing me out
too much. But I'm I don't have there. I mean,
(35:00):
Arizona State isn't playing Baylor yet.
Speaker 3 (35:02):
So I'm not really dancing in here. I just want
you to know.
Speaker 2 (35:08):
Maybe it should just be a music station.
Speaker 3 (35:11):
I don't hate it. I don't hate it. We could
sing about.
Speaker 2 (35:13):
The sports, just nobody wants to hear anything. Nobody wants
to hear it. Trust me, I cannot carry it's here
to save my life. For as much as I talk
for a living, No, I love that though. I think
I could be a good radio, like a actual DJ.
Speaker 5 (35:26):
You'd be great god.
Speaker 4 (35:31):
With like a in Los Angeles watching them if you
get Wolverines and wondering if they're going to win, I think.
Speaker 3 (35:37):
Would be you'd be great. Well that was me, but
you would do that.
Speaker 2 (35:40):
I was gonna say me. Tracy's like she's she's gone
full scent. All right, Well, we have our weekly segment
don't highlight.
Speaker 1 (35:53):
Putting a spotlight on the.
Speaker 3 (35:54):
Don't the subject brings me no joy.
Speaker 2 (35:57):
That that's insane.
Speaker 1 (35:59):
It's time the dues and the don'ts in sports.
Speaker 2 (36:02):
All right, I'm gonna start positively and I'm gonna have a.
Speaker 10 (36:05):
Do do talk your ish Baker Mayfield, I so Monday
Night's game, and I know that was almost a week
ago now, but that's okay.
Speaker 2 (36:17):
I'm still I'm still thinking about it. Baker Mayfield goes down,
it looks like it could be a significant injury. And
you see CJ. Gardner Johnson now on the Houston Texans
come over and start like jawn at him. Baker pops
right back up, starts talking his you know what uh
to CJ. And then he's asked about it after the
(36:37):
game and he was like, yeah, we don't take any
you know what. And I'm like this this, How can
you not love Baker? You know what?
Speaker 4 (36:45):
I've I have become a Baker fan and it took
me some time, but I I'm a Baker fan.
Speaker 3 (36:50):
I really have.
Speaker 2 (36:51):
I love it. I love it so much and I
love keeping our producers on their toes. Sorry, guys, I have.
Speaker 4 (36:57):
A du It's not football related, but I would be
room miss if I didn't say it. Uh do retire
the way Clayton Kershaw is doing it. End of the
season ends up being his last regular season started at
Dodger Stadium last night.
Speaker 5 (37:10):
I was there.
Speaker 4 (37:10):
It was amazing. But he's doing it in a way
that doesn't distract from the playoffs. The fans get to
enjoy it. There's not all this question of will he
or won't he after and truly such a respected guy.
I mean even when he was taken out of the game,
even the giants at the front of their dugout were
up there clapping, and he got to respect it. So
do do go out like Clayton, and do be like
(37:33):
Clayton for your career.
Speaker 2 (37:35):
It's I'm so happy that he had the chance to,
you know.
Speaker 5 (37:38):
Do this on his own terms, one hundred percent.
Speaker 2 (37:41):
Not a lot of people get that. And Clayton Kershaw
sure as heck deserves it. Okay, I've got it. Don't now, Okay,
don't show your hand. So Ben Johnson was asked about
Tom Brady coming in to call the game the Cowboys
Bears game this week when the Bears are going to
Las Vegas to play the Raiders. A team with that
Tom Brady is, in my an already owner in Now
(38:02):
you know that the NFL has allowed Tom to participate
in production meetings and talk to other players and coaches
despite the fact that he is a team owner. And
Ben Johnson was asked about and He's like, I mean,
you guys have heard it. Clearly, I'm good at coach speak.
I'm just planning on doing that. So he's not showing
his hand. He's not doing anything. He's gonna give Tom
Brady and KB Kevin Burkhart a bunch of coach speak,
(38:23):
which is honestly, I mean that stinks. Usually those production
meetings you get some you get some fun stuff in there,
and I just don't think that's going to be the case.
And Ben Johnson called it out immediately. He's like, I
don't really care, but I'm not really gonna tell him anything.
Speaker 3 (38:37):
Which is fair. I can't bela fair.
Speaker 4 (38:39):
I don't blame him Johnson for that at all. He's
got a team to coach, and he's got a team
to coach that he doesn't want the entire season to be.
Speaker 3 (38:46):
Well, it was the Bears.
Speaker 2 (38:47):
So I don't think it's a big deal for the teams.
I really don't. But I do think it's a big
deal for the broadcast crew because they're just not going
to get as good stuff.
Speaker 3 (38:54):
Yeah, no, I do. I agree with that.
Speaker 4 (38:56):
I agree with that on our injury conversation we've had,
I got I got one. Don't don't go on social
media and talk about how a player is quote made
of glass, and a player got paid and.
Speaker 3 (39:10):
Now he's not performing.
Speaker 4 (39:11):
These guys don't want to get hurt, and this is
their job, this is their livelihood, and.
Speaker 3 (39:18):
So I just I hate it. I really do hate.
Speaker 4 (39:21):
It when people do that. I just think it's completely unfair.
And these guys work so hard and they sacrifice their
bodies every day. Everyone at this point, we're in week three,
and I can promise you probably almost everyone in the
NFL is dealing with something at this point, because that's
the start.
Speaker 3 (39:36):
But that's mine.
Speaker 4 (39:38):
Don't say they're made of glass and make fun of
a guy forgetting injured.
Speaker 2 (39:40):
Also, like, tell me you've never had a real injury
like ever or done anything like of athletic. Note because
I not that it wasn't terribly athletic. I tore my
ACL playing flag football, but like that recovery process is
enough to make you want to cry, like despite the
pain and everything like that, Like it's eight months and
that's just like a normal person, Like these guys are
(40:02):
having to get to a level that I was never
at and like to do that. It's an incredible amount
of work and it stinks in your you're separated from
your team and you don't get to be out there
and like you don't get to do the perks of
the job. So yeah, I hate that, Like don't especially yeah,
if you aren't on the field with these guys. Stop
it all right. On the other side of this, we've
(40:22):
got a great hour too. Rachel hot Meyer from CBS
to Troy is gonna join us. Keep listening to Fox
Football Saturday. Welcome back in for hour two of Fox
Football Saturday. I'm common vitally. That's Tracy Sandler, producers, Bo
Benson and Alex ty Shirt with Martin Weis and the
update booth. We're all having a fun. We're all having
(40:43):
a boatload of fun. Great time so far. We talked
to Kelsey Conway. There it is. We talked to Kelsey
Conway about Joe Burrow and the Bengals. We have Rachel
hot Meyer from CBS Detroit coming up this hour. Shay,
I say, what's better than this?
Speaker 3 (40:56):
Nothing?
Speaker 4 (40:57):
Or as Jim Harbo would say nothing.
Speaker 2 (41:01):
I could say nobody. Who's got it better than us? Nobody? Lady, Well,
that's because football is back for the best pregame show
every weekend. Be sure to turn Tune in to Fox
Sports Radios count Down to Kickoff, presented by bet MGM.
Every Saturday and Sunday morning. We will count you down
to all of the biggest games for three hours right
up until kickoff, for all of the best plays and
(41:21):
up to the second injury news. Tune in to count
Down to Kickoff, presented by bet MGM every Saturday and
Sunday morning, right here on Fox Sports Radio and the
iHeartRadio app. Okay, Tracy, We're gonna play game.
Speaker 3 (41:33):
Okay, Oh, I love a game.
Speaker 2 (41:34):
Do you remember from back when we were kids, the TV
show or the Game's Kids game show on Nickelodeon called
figure it Out? I do? Okay, all right, So it
was like the big brain board and it was summer
Sanders and like, I'm just I'm gonna go full nineties
assault on you.
Speaker 3 (41:49):
I love this.
Speaker 2 (41:50):
So we're gonna play figure it Out, and we're gonna
figure it out with some teams that through two weeks
of the season, we just we we don't know who
they are yet, and whether that be because of injuries,
which we've talked about quite a bit this show, or
just because you're just you don't know what you have
and through the first two weeks this season. Really you
(42:12):
don't know what you have through the first four weeks
of this season. But that's neither here nor there. I
want to know what teams you want to figure out
with me, So I'm gonna let you go first. What
team do you want to talk about? First?
Speaker 3 (42:25):
Let's talk about the Patriots.
Speaker 2 (42:26):
Let's talk about the Patriots.
Speaker 3 (42:28):
Yeah, let's talk about them. We don't quite know yet.
Speaker 4 (42:32):
We know they have a good new coach who I
think creates a winning culture and is a good fit there.
They have a quarterback that I think some of us
think could be good, but we just don't know what
they are yet.
Speaker 9 (42:44):
No.
Speaker 2 (42:44):
I listen, the marriage between Mike Rabel and the New
England Patriots was just like preordained. It was destined, Like
this was faded. This is written in all of the
football mythology books. If we talk about the football gods,
then there has to be a mythology, right. That's like
(43:04):
I've always that's been actually one of my things where
I'm like, if I were to do something else, maybe
I would like create I would be an author and
I would like make up football mythology. How much fun
would that be?
Speaker 4 (43:14):
I think it's fun. I'm trying to think of names
and who would be who, so I.
Speaker 2 (43:17):
Know, like like assigning like you know these crazy like
Greek mythology names to like different things. Anyway, So that's
a tangent I didn't need to go down. But Mike Rabel,
I mean, you know, played for the Patriots, just embodies
the Patriot way, but like with a fun kind of
other twist where he did you see this week too
where I don't know if you know who Taylor Kyle's is.
He does great work covering the New England Patriots and
(43:40):
he does a lot of like tape breakdowns and he's
very granular with that stuff. He goes on Mina Kimes show. Okay, yes,
and so he was Rabel was at the podium and
he was talking through things and he was talking about
I think a combo block and he was like, yeah,
you know, we didn't really execute that, not that any
of you would have noticed that other than Taylor over here.
And he has like and it's just like it blew.
And now Taylor's on Cloud nine, So shout out to
(44:02):
Taylor Kyle's But this this team, like I have such
belief in Drake May, and I just think, like you know,
it just takes a little bit of time. I think
they did a lot of work on their offensive line.
I was really worried about it last year when Drake
May came in and I was like, please keep him
out of harm's way because he's a sweet baby angel
child that I need to protect because I think he
(44:22):
could be really, really good and we're seeing like.
Speaker 4 (44:25):
A sweet baby angel child and no one's protecting him. Sorry,
I'm off topic.
Speaker 2 (44:29):
It's okay, you don't need I don't need to keep
getting reminded. But I just I like I like the
New England Patriots a lot. I think that defense, you know,
it's playing with the grit that Mike Brabel is so
well known for, and I think that they could be
I don't know that I'm ready to like. I landed
with them the same place I was in the beginning
of the season, where it's like, I'm not ready to
(44:50):
tell you they're going to contine with the Bills for
that division. But I do think that they could be
a sneaky wildcard team. And through two weeks of the season,
You're right, I haven't figured them out yet. Yep, I
am going to go in the most predictable place possible
given where I live. But the Chicago Bears yes, because
I want to go on a little bit of a
diatribe here of like this is why we don't know
(45:11):
anything through two weeks of the season. Things have looked
bad in Chicago. I'm not shying away from that. It's
looked horrendous. In fact, especially when Detroit hangs fifty two
on you. There's injuries now too, especially defensively in the
second and third levels of that defense. And Jalen Johnson
(45:31):
was just placed on ir He's out indefinitely. That's your
best player, not great. Here's the thing this is again
I'm going to pull back the curtain a little bit
because I want to keep telling people this. When coaches
go to game plan for a team, they watch minimum
four games, Like four games is like the average that
(45:52):
they watch from that team to get an idea of
their tendencies, to get an idea of what they do
out of certain looks, to get an idea of what
their scheme looks like with the quarterback does all of
those things. It takes the sample size is four games,
and that is not something that we have played yet.
So That's why you see every single year, the first
four games the season especially are just they're weird. They're
(46:16):
all weird. Like teams are never as good or never
as bad as what they look like in the first
four weeks the season, because when you're preparing for these
guys in the early aughts, you're having to look back
at last year or like how they played this team
and that team, and it's like, well, last year doesn't
really matter, even if it is a lot of the
same personnel or if it's the same coordinator. Like, there
(46:37):
are new wrinkles every single year for every single team,
So you there's just a huge mystery box when you're
game planning for opponents within the first four weeks the season.
Week four on is when you start to kind of
get an idea of what these teams, who these teams are,
what they do, what their tendencies are, all that kind
of stuff. So if we haven't played four games, how
(46:57):
am I going? And this can apply, I mean pretty
much this applies to everybody in the league, but with
the Chicago Bears in particular, especially with the new coordinator
and the overallul that they had and the way that
Ben Jonson is trying to he broke Caleb Williams down
to build him back up. He's changed everything. His footwork,
the way he throws the ball, the timing, the rhythm
of everything. Everything has changed for him. So yeah, he
(47:21):
is like thinking through things. And what gives me encouragement
about the Chicago Bears. There is the last thing I'll
say about them and why, Like what helps me kind
of figure like, all right, I think this is going
to look better. Is that when they are within the script.
So the first ten to fifteen plays of a game
are usually scripted by the head coach in advance. It's
to evaluate things how the team that they're playing is
(47:42):
going to play them in certain packages, and this, that
and the other. When the Bears have been in the script,
you see the vision for the offense. Yeah, Caleb Williams
has been extremely effective. He looks comfortable when he knows
what's coming. And I'm like, all right, if you can
just get comfortable in the system which comes with reps,
then maybe it can look more like it does in
(48:03):
the beginning of games and not what it looks like
when Caleb Williams reverts back to all of his bad
habits towards the end of games while they're playing from behind.
So that is what I will say about the Chicago Bears.
I don't know that it's going to work, but I
know it's too early to tell well.
Speaker 4 (48:15):
And I think you bring up a really good point
because the reality is how a team even plays in
September and October, which of course we're going beyond four
games at that point, right, is not as important as
how they play in November and December. And you certainly
need to if you want to go to the playoffs.
You have to be above water in September and October.
(48:36):
But it's the teams that get hot, the teams that
play well November December, those are the teams that go
to the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (48:42):
Those are the teams that make a run.
Speaker 4 (48:43):
Even the teams that do that and maybe don't go
to the playoffs, like the Bears, could be a prime example
of this. They may be a team that gets hot
in December, starts playing well in December, as you said earlier,
maybe they don't go to the playoffs this year, but
it gives them momentum into the following year.
Speaker 3 (48:56):
We saw that with the Lions a.
Speaker 4 (48:58):
Few years ago, and that is a really good point generally,
because we just we don't know yet about any of them.
I mean, I've seen the forty nine ers go three
and five and then go to the Super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (49:09):
So and who's who the Lions were those?
Speaker 3 (49:11):
By the way, Ben Johnson's Lions.
Speaker 2 (49:15):
Well, exactly, it was Ben Johnson's offense in that first year.
And that's what I always keep going back to when
it comes to the Bears. To wrap that up too,
is they started one in The Lions started one in
six and twenty twenty two, Ben Johnson's first year as coordinator,
and then they finished winning eight of ten. So I'm
going to give the Bears at least that chance.
Speaker 4 (49:33):
Oh absolutely, And I think you have to under the circumstances.
I think that that's I think that's really important.
Speaker 5 (49:40):
All Right.
Speaker 4 (49:40):
I have one actually maybe kind of a similar idea.
Maybe Okay, it's going to be kind of a weird one,
so prepare yourself.
Speaker 3 (49:48):
But I actually think they're Titans.
Speaker 2 (49:50):
And oh I love that, love that, thank you very much.
Speaker 3 (49:53):
Yeah, I think the Titans are one. Cam Ward is legit.
Speaker 4 (49:56):
I think he is a really I mean, in two
games in the sample size so far, he is he
has looked really fun.
Speaker 3 (50:02):
I think there's a lot of potential there.
Speaker 4 (50:03):
So I think the Titans we need to see a
lot more to figure them out.
Speaker 2 (50:06):
Oh my god. And I cam Ward, and I've said
this before on the show. I don't know if it
was with you or if it was with Nikki, but
like the least talked about first overall.
Speaker 3 (50:16):
Talk about it. You may have said that more than once, but.
Speaker 2 (50:18):
Yes I have, because I just he's so much fun
to watch, and he was last year and like in college,
and I'm just like, how like we've seen how one
quarterback can turn an entire franchise around the theme of
the show, Joe Burrow, and how upset we are about
Joe Burrow, but think of what he did for the franchise,
for that franchise for Cincinnati, And like cam Ward and
(50:41):
like that's the thing is, like the Titans haven't even
been that as unfortunate as the Bengals had been, you know,
before Joe Burrow got there, Like there's been they flirted
with some success, not you know, not in the last
couple of years. Obviously full circle, yes, exactly, you see,
how like you can just tie a little bow on that.
But like, I mean, the things that cam Ward is doing,
(51:02):
and like, even when you get into like the really
nitty gritty, like nerdy stats are still so fun. Like
he's completed five of ten passes on extended dropbacks, which
are four more seconds for sixty three yards in a
touchdown this season, which puts him in the company he's
tied with Patrick Mahomes, C J. Stroud and Jay and
Daniels for the second most in the NFL. So like,
I mean again like really needy, gritty, like cherry picking
(51:23):
a stat there, but like it's it's still like every
way you look at what cam Ward's doing in Tennessee,
it's fun. It's fun, and like, I really think that
that defense in Tennessee can be better than Like I
had high hopes for that defensive line last year. It
didn't quite materialize, but I do think that this is
something that could continue to get better this season. It's
(51:46):
gonna be really fun this weekend going, you know, divisional
matchup against the Colts, the resurgent Colts.
Speaker 3 (51:52):
Question Mark, well, there's one you might need to see.
Speaker 2 (51:54):
I say, there's another one you might need to figure out.
But I mean it's this game is going to be
and don't go a long way into figuring honestly, both
of these teams out. But I really want to see
what the Titans can do because I mean that the
Texans don't look like as much of the big Bad Texans.
I mean, they took the Bucks, you know, down to
the wire, but they have that really domineering defense. But
(52:14):
like I don't necessarily I do think that the AFC
is South is the Texans to lose. Yeah, but I
think that division is going to be a lot more
interesting than we initially thought.
Speaker 3 (52:25):
So I agree.
Speaker 4 (52:26):
I agree that I actually had the Texans down too.
Is one that I need to see more because I
don't know, they don't seem like the big Bad Texans anymore.
Speaker 3 (52:34):
And I'm just kind of wondering because.
Speaker 2 (52:35):
Of the offensive line. It's because of the offensive line here.
They are not like all training camp, they didn't know
who was going to start along the offensive line, and
I'm like, maybe that matters, even when you have a
really fun quarterback like CEJ Strout.
Speaker 3 (52:48):
It does matter.
Speaker 4 (52:48):
And the other thing with that too is offensive lines
need to have chemistry, and so if you don't know
what's going to start off through training camp, you're putting
them into a disadvantage as knowing that together as a unit.
Speaker 2 (52:58):
Yes, and this is a really fun like precursor to
the conversation we're gonna have on the other side of this,
but we are going to take a break. We're gonna
talk defense on the other side. So you're listening to
Fox Football Saturday. This is not the way to get
me to start a show, guys, because I won't start it.
I'm just gonna keep dancing.
Speaker 3 (53:17):
Tunes have been just a plus a.
Speaker 2 (53:20):
Vibes immaculate off the charts. This is like early two thousands,
is like my sweet spot. It's my home. Okay, no
one wants to hear me sing I promise you.
Speaker 3 (53:35):
I mean I kind of do now.
Speaker 2 (53:37):
I don't need to karayok No, I don't need to
carryok But if I did, I actually might do this song.
I love this song.
Speaker 3 (53:44):
It's a good song.
Speaker 2 (53:46):
I'm card of Vitally. That's Tracy Sandler. That was Sierra Goodies.

my radio station's presets in the car in the early
two thousands, where I would potentially see hear Sierra Goodies.
You know, as I'm switching stations. We're growing full nostalgia here.
Speaker 3 (54:31):
Guys, and a lot of full circles, A lot of
full circles.
Speaker 2 (54:35):
Yeah, callbacks, full circles. I mean, this is why you
listen to Fox Football Saturdays, because we're going to give
you something of everything, quite honestly, and in that spirit
I feel like so much and through no fault of
our own. It's you know, offense in football is a
sexy part of it, right, It's whatever wants to talk about.
It is the most accessible part of the game because
(54:55):
you can see it very tangibly. You can see a
big play down the field, score six points in the
end zone, fantastic kicked the extra point, but up seven nothing. However,
as someone who grew up in Chicago and grew up
a massive bear Saan, I didn't have a whole lot
of that to watch growing up, so I got real
into defense. I'm a very defense girl. As much as
(55:16):
I love the offensive line and I advocate for the
offensive lineman, I'm really a defensive girl at heart. And
I thought like, if I ever played football, I would
have been I would have wanted to be a middle linebacker,
not because of Brian or Lacker, but in fact because
of Lance Briggs.
Speaker 4 (55:28):
I'm sorry, but the image of that is really so
spectacular that someone somewhere needs to like make an AI
version of you as a bill.
Speaker 2 (55:35):
Oh no, no, they don't. Don't put that in their heads. Tracy,
what are we doing so good?
Speaker 4 (55:39):
I'd love to see you what a bear's uniform. I'm like,
out there ready to go, but take down the quarterback?
Speaker 2 (55:44):
Good good lord. I actually I got to live out
my dreams one practice and when I was working for
the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. I was there for six years
and I got very very close to the coaching staff
and it was really awesome, so close in fact, that
one time they were a little short handed on assistance
and I got to come in and act as a
blitzing linebacker to our offensive line as they were walking
through some things, and I like, I had a fire
(56:08):
in my eyes. And one of our offensive linemen looked
at me and he was just like, calm half speed.
I'm not gonna hurt you. Like You're not gonna come
full speed at me in pads. But I see it
in your eyes. And I was like, I was like, okay,
all right, I'm just gonna calm down. But I got
to live up my dream of being being a linebacker,
if only for a very brief moment.
Speaker 3 (56:26):
Anyway, not everyone can say that.
Speaker 2 (56:29):
It was so much fun, but that's not That's neither
here nor there, because we are going to talk about defenses,
and specifically I want to talk about defenses that could
determine their team's season and allow me to go first. Please,
my biggest answer to this is Green Bay m hm,
and hear me out. This has always been the story
(56:51):
with Green Bay. I think with Jordan Love because okay,
Jordan Love, I think is a phenomenal talent. I have
been higher on him than most. I believed in him immediately.
I you know, I'm like, there's no way that you
know the Green Bay I've grown up in Chicago. Green
Bay always had the franchise quarterback. They went from one
to the next, So of course they were going to
go to a third, especially after he had three years
(57:12):
on the bench to just sit and watch and learn
from whatever you think about the guy, one of the
best quarterbacks to ever play the game in Aaron Rodgers
like this, this was gonna work. This was always gonna work.
And I truly believe that. Last year Jordan Love had
quite a few injuries in and out of the lineup,
his receivers. They just never got into a groove because
they were hurt and in like a constant rotation. But
(57:34):
this year, Jordan Love, I mean, he was got hurt
this week in practice with his left thumb. He's dealing
with the left thumb injury, but he is gonna play.
He's relatively healthy, as healthy as any football player is.
And the way that Jordan Love plays the game is
with absolute reckless abandon Like this guy is not risk averse.
(57:54):
He does not care. He trusts himself implicitly, almost to
his detriment. Like he's got a little bit of Brett
farv in there where he will just chuck that ball
into the tightest of windows because he wholehearted believes it's
gonna work. And sometimes it doesn't. But when you have
a defense that can mitigate any of the damage that
(58:14):
any of those plays do, like say he does throw
an interception or he does fumble the ball because he's
trying to make something happen with in the pocket, you
have a defense that you can rely on to stifle
the other team, to not let them capitalize on that
to still limit the amount of points. And now that
you have Micah Parsons, that defense is so complete top
(58:35):
to bottom or like or top to the to the back.
I mean you have Xavier McKinney holding it down. You
have a couple of really fun young defensive backs too.
When you have you have Davon Bullard, Evan Williams. I
like those guys a lot. You have Ezrin Cooper, who
is like this little Swiss army knife in Jeff Hafley's
defense and in his second year, by the way, and
then you add Micah Parsons to this with Rashan Gary
(58:57):
Lucas van Ness who look rejuvenated, Davante Wyatt in the
middle of there. I mean, this is a solid, solid defense,
and when you have the trust that you're able to
have in this defense, Jordan Love can play his game
however he wants to. Jordan Love can take all the
risks he wants to. And that is how and that
becomes so hard to defend if you are already a
(59:20):
team going as a Green Bay Packer. So the Green
Bay Packers defense, how good they are, will determine what
they're ceiling is this season.
Speaker 4 (59:29):
Well, and you know, after the Micah Parsons trade, I
think many of us all of a sudden felt like, okay,
well the Packers and could go to the super Bowl
and not into one of those like flippant, oh well
now they're going to the super Bowl. Ways, but for
exactly what you just said, that defense was already so
good you put in Micah Parsons. He's a true game
changer in the way a quarterback could be, in their
(59:49):
way an offensive player could be. There aren't a ton
of defensive players like that, and he is one of
those guys. So I could not agree with you more
on this because, as you said, and you brought up
such a good point, Jordan Love can take all the
risks because there is the safety net of knowing that
the defense can minimize the risk of those risks. If
that made sense. So I could not agree with you more.
(01:00:11):
And I'm those Packers are scary. I think that is
a really, really good football team. And I put I
think in front of that as if I'm the only
one that thinks up. But they are such a good
football team they are forced to be reckoned with. And
I know people have made jokes, Oh, they're set up
to lose to the four nin ers and the NFTY championship game.
Not this Packers team. This is different and it's the defense.
Speaker 3 (01:00:31):
And really, Micah.
Speaker 2 (01:00:32):
Parsons, I really believe that too.
Speaker 4 (01:00:34):
All right, you got I got one that's kind of
interesting that I've been watching a little bit these first.
Speaker 3 (01:00:38):
Couple of weeks, and that's the Falcons.
Speaker 4 (01:00:41):
Ooh, I think I think the Falcons have a really
good defense. I think that they have obviously some good
offensive weapons there.
Speaker 3 (01:00:48):
But they need to be a complete team.
Speaker 4 (01:00:49):
And I think that their defense, at least in these
first two weeks, And as we discussed earlier, hard to
tell after two weeks, but in these first two weeks
we've seen them play really well. They've limited big plays.
We've seen the offense play well. I think the Falcons
should their defense stay strong. I think the Falcons are
like a sneaky maybe it's just a ViBe's pick, but
sneaky pick in the NFC South that they could definitely
(01:01:12):
challenge the Buccaneers. There's my hot and maybe it's a
hot take, but I don't like what I'm.
Speaker 2 (01:01:16):
Saying what try say. The issue is it's not a
hot take, and I do not appreciate that as someone
who I just talked about working six years in Tampa.
Because the Bucks have won their division for the last
four years, They've been to the playoffs the last five years,
I'm like, why what is it going to take for
us to trust the Buccaneers that they can pull this
out even if it doesn't look good. And I mean,
I agree with you though, is that I do think
(01:01:37):
that this Atlanta defense is for real. I do think
that that is going to determine their season. Again, allows
Michael Pennix, you know, a longer leash or a longer
learning curve as he gets going. I completely agree with that. However,
why don't we trust the Bucks?
Speaker 3 (01:01:54):
So for me, it's not about not trusting the Bucks.
Speaker 4 (01:01:56):
It's more about thinking the Falcons are better than meets
the eye.
Speaker 2 (01:02:00):
I get.
Speaker 4 (01:02:01):
I mean that's that's more about that. It's less it's
really for me, not about the Bucks. It's about the
Falcons because I think probably the Bucks will win the division.
I just think the Falcons are sneaky team to challenge them.
Speaker 2 (01:02:12):
I'm just tired of people. And I'm not saying you,
but I'm just tired of people. Not No, people don't
want to look at the Buccaneers.
Speaker 4 (01:02:17):
They don't want to like Baker Mayfield, they don't want
to like the Bucks.
Speaker 3 (01:02:21):
I don't I don't understand that. I really don't.
Speaker 4 (01:02:23):
So we can obviously disagree in time we want. But
in this case, it's really it's more about the Falcons
than the Bucks. I guess is I'm saying that people
do have a weird thing about the Bucks.
Speaker 3 (01:02:32):
I don't know why.
Speaker 2 (01:02:33):
I really, I really got what you're saying. And yes,
but like it is, It's just it's one of those
things where I'm shouting at the top of my lungs
like this, this team, it doesn't always look pretty, but
they always make it happen. And they they also had
a catastrophic injury to deal with this week with college,
I cancy going down and I'm very upset about that,
but we don't have to talk about it. What we
do have to do is get to get to Martin
Weiss for another update.
Speaker 8 (01:02:53):
Break start in the NFL real quick, Xavier Worthy downgraded
to out for WOO three despite he did practice with
no restrictions on Wednesday, but not going to be able
to go. So that's bad news for Kansas City, but
hopefully they'll get there.
Speaker 2 (01:03:09):
That a rookie wide.
Speaker 8 (01:03:09):
Receiver making his NFL debut Jalen Royals.
Speaker 2 (01:03:13):
But uh yeah, so zay be Worthy not averaging nineteen
points a game. By the way, that that Kansas City offense.
Speaker 8 (01:03:19):
Which robust yikes, a minute and thirty seconds left in
Syracuse is Clemson in Syracuse and Clemson and really a
minute thirty seconds left in Clemson's playoff hopes as a
trail thirteen right now thirty four to twenty one. Well,
Syracuse has the ball and let's see, Clemson has no
(01:03:40):
timeouts again, so yeah, they would have to punt and
get the ball back. But it would take a miracle
for Clemson to come back and win this game, and
they'll fall to h and two in the ACC one
and three overall. Oregon with a thirty one point lead
over Oregon State in the fourth quarter. Florida State has
just been mollywopping people there have thirty five to say
(01:04:00):
lead over. Can't state that game's in a rain delay
at the half. Auburn and Oklahoma the eleventh three Sooners
have the twenty second rank. Tigers tied at Norman and
see two lane with the ball betrailing twenty to twenty
three to three nearing the start of the third quarter.
Speaker 2 (01:04:15):
There, I'm sorry.
Speaker 8 (01:04:16):
Just after the start of the third quarter there, Michigan
and Nebraska ended in a ridiculous stretch to go or
Justice Hanying's like a seventy five yard touchdown run with
like a minute left, and then Dylan Rayola threw a
hail mary with one second left, So two touchdowns scored
in the last minute of the first half. It's twelve
to thirty four left in the third quarter. Now Nebraska
(01:04:39):
just received a punt, but it's down at their own
three yard line. Notre Dame has a twenty eight to
thirteen lead over Purdue, but that game's in a rain delay.
Bill belichicks hopefully does some halftime adjustments in his back pocket,
because right now it is on Fox twenty to three
UCF against the North Carolina tar Yi whoops back to
(01:05:03):
you guys.
Speaker 2 (01:05:05):
Well and unlike that, this isn't just a game, It's
a once in a life. It oncen't a generation event.

Get your tickets today at Harlem Globetrotters dot com. Let's
get back to the games. Let's get back to what's
(01:05:25):
going to be a great game this weekend Detroit Baltimore,
and we have Rachel Hotmeyer of CBS Detroit to talk
to us all about it. Rachel, how are you?
Speaker 1 (01:05:37):
You're right?
Speaker 9 (01:05:38):
I'm here, I'm excited. I'm putting on my makeup for
our six o'clock show after that New Britshard Michigan Nebraska game.
We've got so much going on here, but obviously the
biggest deal is to come on Monday.
Speaker 2 (01:05:51):
All right, So Ravens missing some key starters here for
this game. The Lions look relatively all. I know, Mike
Marcus Davenport's out, there's a couple guys that are questionable.
But if I know anything about that team, it's that
questionable means they're playing like nobody. Actually, you know, there's
there's out and there's in and then that's it. What
do you what's going to be the key to capitalizing
(01:06:14):
on on who Baltimore is missing and for Detroit to
come out with a win, it.
Speaker 9 (01:06:18):
Has to be protecting Jared's pocket Again this week, the
O line did a much better job at Ford Field.
In week two. You saw rat Ledge and Mahogany much
better with communication to their tackled and centers next to them.
But it really is going to come down to you
got to give Jared the space to do his thing
because if he isn't a tool, then how are you
going to compete against Lamar Jackson? And we know the
(01:06:41):
bank is going to be loud as anything Monday night.
I mean, when it comes to the lack of Kyle
van Ney, that could be an advantage for the lines.
When you talk about that line's injury report today, Davenport
is obviously out, so we saw him in a sling
in the locker room yesterday. To me, that sounds like
a or longer term injury. But the Lions aren't speaking
(01:07:02):
to that at this time. But all those questionable guys
Dan Campbell seemed to infer today that they will be
playing faky NAASKI. They need all the linebacker depth they
can get so nobody freezes up on that field.
Speaker 4 (01:07:16):
When you look at the offensive line play between weeks
one and week two, and I, Carmen, forgive me, it's
not I don't think it was just the Bears in
week two. What did they do to do a better
job protecting Jared got because as you said earlier, that
really is a key here. What adjustments did they make
to see so much improvement in that week.
Speaker 9 (01:07:34):
I'm glad you asked on that, Tracy, because I did
you know a big story on that and talking to
guys along the line from Jared all the way down
to what is needed for you guys to feel comfortable
in this setting because none of the three of us
are ever tuning up on the line of scrimmage anytime.
The last time I did what you know, like right,
(01:07:56):
we can roll my powder pup high life.
Speaker 2 (01:07:58):
That's fine.
Speaker 9 (01:07:58):
I broke the girls, not once, not a big deal,
but when it comes to this aline and the operation
they're running. I talked a lot, especially to Christian Mahogany
out of BC, who isn't technically a rookie this year,
but he only got two starts last year, so for
all intents and purposes, he is. And then of course
Tate ratliche this year's draft pick, who played at ole
(01:08:19):
Miss and just sitting down with him, I said, you
know you're used to SEC play. Was it really that
loud that you guys couldn't hear each other at Lambeau?
And he was like, Rachel, it was as loud as
Nayland Stadium, which is a difference of twenty thousand fans.
So those are things you can't control in the NFL,
even the best O line. If your ears cannot hear,
that is an uncontrollable, uncontrollable variable. So John Morton adjusted
(01:08:43):
their playbooks straight up. He adjusted some of the kills
that require too much communication when you're in anime territory
like that, and just wants to make things a lot
more simple. It also comes down to having the confidence
in each other and knowing, not second guessing but making
sure I don't care you have to say it five times,
going the extra mile to make sure that everything is
(01:09:04):
executed well. Taylor Decker is also a big factor and
a veteran presence in these situations, so having him and
giving him the recine needs during the week to be
totally locked in on Sundays as he deals with long term.
But you know, I don't want to say injury per se,
but just the breaking body of a veteran, just relying
(01:09:25):
on everybody and knowing that everybody has to be bought
into this success is a huge.
Speaker 2 (01:09:30):
Part of it. Yeah, and that goes not only offensively,
and far be it from me to take anything away
from the offensive line. But I do want to talk
about the defense here because I want to talk about
what territory I know, but I want to talk more
about what you've seen so far this season that has
been different under Calvin Shepherd than it was under Aaron
Glenn two wildly different men, by the way, Aaron Glenn
(01:09:53):
much more of the strong, silent type Calvin Shepherd anything.
But so, what have you seen kind of in the
differences in this defense, whether it be SAP or whether
it just be that hey eight, Hutchinson's back on the field.
Speaker 9 (01:10:05):
Yeah, I think it's interesting because philosophically speaking and scheme wise,
I don't know that you're going to be able to
pick out that much of a difference so far between
what Glenn implemented and what Shep is doing. But it's
definitely a different way to talk about it and approach it.
When you talk to Calvin Shepherd, he's just a fiary
(01:10:25):
on the field as he is when he takes the
lectern with us in the middle of the week. He
was very quick to defend Kirby Joseph and say Kirby
Joseph followed the scheme as instructed and crippled down on
that when we followed up on certain places. Is it
scary yes? Could it be in a WWE hype video yet?
But he's standing ten toes down on when guys are
(01:10:47):
doing things right and when guys are doing things wrong.
He was also very quick to say Terry On Arnold
needs to learn from this mistake he made against Ricky
Piersoll seven months ago and shouldn't be making now Like
the man is putting it all out there and we've
seen coaches use the media to speak to their players
in different ways. I experienced that a lot when I
was in Green Bay, and even the way Aaron Rodgers
(01:11:08):
would use the media.
Speaker 2 (01:11:09):
To speak to his teammates.
Speaker 9 (01:11:11):
So right, right, I appreciate the authenticity that Shep is
bringing with us into the room. But something he talked
about this week, I think will will illustrate better why
I don't think there's that much of a schematic difference
between the two. He said one of the biggest lessons
that Aaron Glenn taught Shep when he was coming up
through the ranks, and you know Shep's experience as a
(01:11:33):
player in this league, if he said, the identity of
your defense can be seen in how your outer dbs,
your secondary, your safeties in your corners are defending the
run games are getting in there and getting physical and tackling.
And Shep was like, what are you talking about? My
linebackers are supposed to make to be making these tackles.
But it's true, it's how are they getting involved? Is
(01:11:56):
it a reactionary thing or are they prepared or are
they volunteering and stepping up and making sure that is
the end of the wall. And when I talked to
Terry on about that this week he said, that's nothing
new for me because we were doing that at Alabama.
But I do believe it's a core identity pillar. And
you talk to other guys like Brian Branch and Kirby
(01:12:18):
and a Meek, and they're very used to moving all
over But to be able to be preaching that philosophically
from the get go certainly makes the run defense a
bigger priority.
Speaker 4 (01:12:28):
The Michigan alum has to ask about Aiden Hutchinson and
I know, Carmen you mentioned it, but what is the difference.
Obviously there's the talent and all of that, but what
does he bring to the field that the intangibles that
just even from a vibe perspective in the locker room.
Speaker 9 (01:12:43):
Yeah, I mean, I think he is confident and feeling
at home as he should. This is all he's known.
He is not far from his family, who are a
big part of his life. He is a growing leader,
but he's also become a lot more of a public
facing figurehead for the Lions. He was on Jimmy Fallon.
He's doing a lot in the community. He's having his
(01:13:03):
merch brand along with the Lion. So I think for
him it's really just he's happening to be back doing
what he's supposed to be doing instead of sitting on
the couch.
Speaker 4 (01:13:10):
He's playing football, unlike us who are not paying So
bab was sitting on the couch, sitting in the.
Speaker 2 (01:13:15):
Press box to everybody's detriment. Let's be honest, it's true. Okay, Rachel,
you did something really great for the Lions media room
and I just need to tell people about it. Jimmy
is seafood. You brought in Jimmy's seafood crab cakes and
then and how did this come about? Why did you
do this?
Speaker 9 (01:13:35):
I love it all right. So for context, I call
myself a long distance charm city gal. My longtime partner
and I. He lives in Baltimore still and I love
the city. I've really become a giant fan of local
businesses there. And as someone who grew up in New
England was raised on a seafood diet, obviously, I'm going
(01:13:56):
to be fond of crab cakes and hard chum rab
and crab rolls and crab soup and anything.
Speaker 5 (01:14:02):
You could do, Toddy makes me delicious.
Speaker 9 (01:14:05):
So I've embraced Maryland so much, and over the last
eight years.
Speaker 1 (01:14:09):
You bet your butt.
Speaker 9 (01:14:10):
I have taken the time to try any crab cake
institution I could get my hands on, and I can
confidently say, in my humble opinion, without a doubt, the
best largest media's most consistent ones are from Jimmy Seafood.
They are in dundalf right outside Baltimore. They do an
incredible job for business operations. They actually have an nil
(01:14:33):
program with Maryland athletes and give them meal plans because
those crab cakes are incredible sorts of clean protein, so
I love what they're doing there. They do a lot
with the ravens of the community, and they are always
a restaurant I have to hit even if I'm home
in Baltimore for a weekend. Another amazing part of their
business is the way they can overnight you anything anything.
Speaker 2 (01:14:55):
I really need to take advantage of that more. I
love Jimmy Cebird. I've spent quite a bit the time
in Baltimore and they're finn able to.
Speaker 9 (01:15:02):
Get you a box to Chicago or LA overnight, so
it was not a question for me. The best way
to pregame Monday night football at the Bank is by
treating my colleagues with some of the finest charm City
crab cakes and that way they know exactly where they
need to go. I've made sure everybody knows you want
to watch football Sunday. I know there will be quite
a few of us at.
Speaker 2 (01:15:23):
Jimmy's Awesome Shout out Jimmy Seafood in Baltimore, Shout out
Rachel Hopmeier and see from CBS story. Thank you so
much for coming on with us. Have so much fun
back in Charma City. I know you will. Uh and
safe travels, my friend. Thank you so much.
Speaker 9 (01:15:42):
Thanks Gal, have good Saturday.
Speaker 2 (01:15:44):
All right, all right, I'm I know so hungry. On
the other side of this, we've got one more segment
coming up. You're listening to Fox Football Saturday. Emmaculate vibes
Here on Fox Football Saturday. We had really chill, call
down vibes early and now we've got early two thousands.
This is my Happy Place show. I'm Carmen Vitally. That's
(01:16:06):
Tracy Sandler. We have Bo Benson, we have Alex Tyshirt,
we have Martin Weiss in the Los Angeles studios. It's
been a fun one. It's been so fun. You can
keep things going too. Up Next is Buckin' Fits. I
hear Buck Rising is back now, so you know, take
(01:16:26):
that how you will. But Jason Fitzoways has a great job.
I am so I can't believe like this day has
flown by, had a great show. Kelsey Conway from the
Cincinnati Choirer came on where you just heard from Rachel
Hotmeyer CBS Detroit ahead of the Monday night game between
the Lions and the Ravens. Very excited for that one,
and I'm very excited Tracy for our last segment.
Speaker 3 (01:16:48):
Yes, it's always fun.
Speaker 2 (01:16:49):
The lol moment of the week, because I believe I
always need a laugh and I think everybody else needs
a laugh too. So something this week that happened that
you found funny? I will start us off. This is funny,
I guess in a like if you're a self loathing
fan type of way, and especially in the case of
(01:17:11):
Chase Bandalik, who is a Bears fan and probably the
most self loathing and masochistic Bears fan that I have
heard of or come across. This man pledged to run
one mile for every point the Bears lose by this season.
Speaker 5 (01:17:25):
Oh dear Lord, And do you want to know what
happened last week?
Speaker 2 (01:17:31):
Oh Lions hung fifty two on the Chicago Bears, and
the Bears only I mean only they did get some
garbage time to Chase's relief, I'm sure, but still only
scored twenty one points. That is a different lady difference
ladies and gentlemen of thirty one points if I'm doing
my math correctly. So this poor guy went out on
(01:17:54):
Sunday and ran thirty one miles.
Speaker 3 (01:17:57):
Oh my, did he has to do it each Oh?
Speaker 2 (01:17:58):
Good, Yeah, he doesn't each way. So each week that
the Bears, whatever the Bears lose by, he runs a mile,
and then if they win, he doesn't have to run.
Speaker 3 (01:18:06):
Oh god, run right of the season. That's a marathon.
Speaker 2 (01:18:10):
He ran a marathon, a marathon that is five miles
more than a marathon, that is like ultra marathons. Oh
my gosh.
Speaker 3 (01:18:16):
That First of all, the Bear should be ashamed of themselves.
Speaker 4 (01:18:19):
I think they should be thinking of this poor guy,
and they should be ashamed of themselves for letting this happen.
I hope for his sake that the December timeline is
a little bit sooner.
Speaker 2 (01:18:28):
I'm just saying, well, not only that, like you just
need the defense to not give up a whole lot
of points and now like you're dealing with so many
defensive injuries right now, like t J. Edwards is out,
Jalen Johnson is out, Keyler Gordon is out this week,
and you're playing the Dallas Cowboys. Who I mean, Dak
has a lot more receiving options than he has and
like that offense, like this poor guy is probably just
(01:18:50):
I mean, what I'm really hoping is that, Yeah, like
it goes like this December. The Bears need to win
for so many reasons. But like, if you've ever tried
to run in sh cargo in December, it's not fun.
That the cold air and your lungs, I can't imagine
it's good for them. So, uh shout out Chase Chikajubian
(01:19:11):
did a story on him, and uh, yeah, I feel
I feel I feel for him.
Speaker 4 (01:19:15):
I feel for him too. Well mine is not quite
so self loving loathing, but.
Speaker 3 (01:19:20):
It's it's sort of funny.
Speaker 4 (01:19:21):
I'm gonna come off with some sort of falcons stand here,
which I'm really not, but I.
Speaker 3 (01:19:25):
Did think it was very funny. The kicker Parker.
Speaker 4 (01:19:27):
Romo, you know, came in week two. Uh, he kicked
a whole lot of field goals. Won the game, and
then after being interviewed on national television, he met his teammates.
Speaker 3 (01:19:36):
He met right which I was like, really funny.
Speaker 4 (01:19:38):
He introduced himself to Letter Floyd, He introduced himself to
Bijon Robinson, even though he was like, I know who
that is because he's Jon Robinson. But I thought that
was pretty funny because that's just there they are. It's like, oh, Hi,
nice to meet you. I just want you the game.
Speaker 2 (01:19:51):
It's then you when you realize that the NFL is
a business and these are companies and sometimes you don't
even know who the guys are that you're stepping out
of the field with.
Speaker 3 (01:19:58):
I have to meet some of our coworkers sometime we do.
Speaker 2 (01:20:01):
And I appreciate you being mine. Thank you guys so
much for listening. You guys, it'll be have a great
rest of your Saturday. Whatever it is you're doing. Hopefully
you're watching some college football. We'll see you next week.
You're listening to Fox Football Saturday. Yes,
