fifty seven. I want to tell you we are broadcasting

Will be here in like about five or ten minutes.
The Sager is sitting on in back in our l
A studios. How you doing Tonight's the can't wait for kickoff?
(00:46):
This is such a great matchup. Bring it on. We
gotta we gotta pace ourselves like the players who have
three songs, not just the anthem right before kickoff. Well
that'll be a first of all, have you ever been
to a Super Bowl? If your hand, I've been to
one of the Troy Aikman who puper bowls that I
covered at the Rose Bowl. It is a blast, is
it not? It is a bucket list. I read the
(01:06):
articles about the three guys that have gone to what
fifties seven supers, they've been to everyone. Yes, they're there
this weekend. It's incredible that they could keep this going.
I you know, and I know it's expensive, but I
saw today I think they put this out that um
pretty much you can get under face value for any
ticket out there to get into the game today. One
(01:27):
you mean, just unlate notice because these guys, I mean,
I can't I hesitate to add up what they have
spent on Super Bowl tickets times fifty seven years because
we all know it. It wasn't even fifty bucks for
some of the tickets for the very first Super Bowl,
and it wasn't even a sellout at the l A
Coliseum because the a f L was not a big deal.
(01:48):
This was the NFL's champ against the a f l's
champ originally, and by the time the Chiefs won their
first Super Bowl, that was Super Bowl four, that was
the last time there was an a f L champ
qualified the teams. The two leagues merged, and of course
it took fifty the Chiefs to win again. By the way,
Chris Point has a question for you. He wants to know,
how do you guys drive in that leg like this.
(02:09):
How do you? How do you do this? I'm saying,
how much traffic is there at three o'clock in the afternoon. Yeah,
there was a surprising amount of traffic on the way
into the studio today. I can only surmise that everybody
is going to a Super Bowl party. And yeah, far
more than a normal Sunday afternoon. There was traffic today. Yeah.
(02:31):
Before I get to the buzz and all these articles
I found for the pregame and stuff like that, I
just want to say something because I was on Twitter.
I'm looking at all the pictures, um, from our guys
over at Fox down in Arizona doing a phenomenal job,
and um, one of the guy just tweeted him on
the field with the video. I saw that one of
the guys took his picture with the fake Andy Reid.
(02:54):
I didn't read it at first. I'm like, who got
their picture with Andy? Right? It looks like unbelievable. That's
a twin that got mixed up in birth. There's and
he has the body type. I didn't read exactly what
it just said, does it son of a gun? Andy
Reid's taking pictures with the media like a day before.
(03:14):
I couldn't believe it. This guy, I don't he must
die his hairs. I don't know this. This guy looks
more like and you read it, and he really looks
like Andy read It's unbelievable. It works. All you gotta
say is and then how about them? And then just
wait for everybody your chef, Yeah, exactly? Can you make
money doing that? Can you show up at parties? I
would have rented myself out. I went to the NFL's
(03:35):
and why don't you come here? You don't think there's
an Arnie Spanier impersonator out there somewhere in this great
land of ours? Listen to you? Not like that guy? Seriously.
I mean, if you go to the our Twitter, Fox
Sports Radio, this guy is I can't even say dead ringer. This.
It's like a twin. He looks more like a twin
than twins look like twins. You know, it's amazing. They
(03:58):
had a piece in the Super Bowl pre game on
Fox the very first half hour, I think where they
kind of reacted re enacted the Dolphins of seventy two
in the locker room after they finished their undefeated season,
and they had one guy that kind of looked like
Larry Zanka, and then they had a guy that sort
of looked like Bob Greasy. But the Andy Reid guy
(04:19):
looks like Andy Reid. There's an actual unbelievable Um, all right,
we got a lot to get to. I got to
say a programming note. You can see the super Bowl
on the Fox Sports app. Of course, this is Fox's turn.
But don't turn away because the man you're listening to,
Arnie Spanier, and the guy that will join him shortly,
Chris Plak. This is an annual tradition here in the building,
(04:41):
these guys during the big game, and then Mark Willard
will come in and co host after post game, like
eleven Eastern time. But this is a big day for
all of us. You know what's so funny. I gotta
tweet that says, I don't know what you did to
the network to give you the worst radio time slot
of the year, but good luck with that. Like, I
love this. They asked, does they? They asked us a
long time ago, and every time Chris Blank says, just
(05:03):
I'm like, I'm not doing anything. So and as far
as the timing before kickoff, they may get to the
tossing of the coin at about the bottom of the
hour six thirty eastern. There is no kickoff coming at
six thirty eastern. I think it'll be closer to six
forty eastern time. Like I said, there's more than just
the anthem going on in the next half hour. So
you have just read my mind. I want you to
(05:25):
know that, because that was the next thing I go to.
I have a story here, and I sent this over
to Plank. I didn't have a chance to go and
send it over to you, mostly because I don't have
your phone number after thirty yes, after thirty years of
doing radio with you. Um. But it had a list
of all the times of all the Super Bowls from
you know, from obviously the number one on and um,
(05:45):
the start times, the start times. I saw that this
one was supposed to be at six forty also, but
I always saw that from one or two places. I
think this is a sixty is actually the latest kickoff time.
It happened once in two thousand two. Back in nineteen
eighty nine, I think we had like a five eighteen
kickoff Eastern time. For whatever reason there we we've gone
(06:07):
from any time between four fifteen back in the early sixties. Uh,
to two o'clock UM to six seventeen, So we've we've
bounced it around a little bit. I don't know if
there's an ideal time, but I'm thinking, you know, probably
about four or five o'clock eastern would have been the
best time. I brought it up last weekend on one
of the shows that I think one of the Bradshaw
versus Starbacks. Super Bowl started at two pm Eastern, and
(06:30):
I read the reason was so it would conclude before
evening church services on the East. And then once the
NFL got to you got closer to the late seventies,
nineteen eighty and you realize that prime time television numbers
will be pretty incredible. Well, they got into prime time
starting six eastern, and they've really never looked back. Well,
you know what's interesting in nineteen seventy eighth, Oh, they
(06:52):
started at six seventeen eastern and they went back in
fourth every year. I think it that it was like
five thirty or four thirty eastern, and then we'd go
back to six seventeen for a year or two, then
back down. So they bounce it around. Had a five
eighteen eastern start, which would have been perfect, but uh,
six forty. I think I think you're correct on that
that's the latest start we've had ever for a Super Bowl.
(07:14):
We're just about the latest in the year, last year's
and this year's Super Bowl. This is February twelve. The
regular season used to end in December, used to add
playoff games in December. Now we're not even sniffing the
postseason in December. You know, when Chris Blank and I
started doing the Super Bowl shows, we could never talk
lines and stuff like that back in the day. Today,
I can tell you Philadelphia minus one and a half
(07:35):
right now before kickoff fifty one. Um. I thought that
line was eventually gonna make its way back down to one,
maybe even pick up. In some places would just at
a flip a Choyd, what do you want, let's give
and go fifty one. I saw a few places at
fifty one and a half. I maybe fifty two. Um,
you know, because people are betting the over. I wanted
to ask you though, so roughly a six to twenty
(07:57):
four type of Philadelphia win. It's what the line in
saying somewhere. And Patrick Mahomes, by the way, has never
entered a postseason game as an underdog. He was favored
in all thirteen of his postseason games career until today.
Is that because of him or because of the team,
You know what I mean. Obviously he's a great quarterback,
he's a Hall of Famer. Well, they're usually favored. They're
usually at home. Right. This is also the only time
(08:19):
that you know, he's never worn a white jersey in
a playoff game. Even his first two Super Bowls were
in the Chiefs. Read. He's usually in his home stadium.
They're usually the better team. They're not out and out
the better team in this matchup. Eagles have been great
all year. Now, I want to tell you as I'm
going through Twitter, and that's the best way to reach
us during the game. If you want to go ahead
and tell us about a certain play, you want to
(08:40):
give your prediction on the game. You could start that.
Now I'm a stinking genius one. You could reach Plank
at Plank Show. Um, but and and tell me if
I'm wrong. Because I'm in the Northeast, but you know
I'm by Philadelphia. I'm not too far away. This Super
Bowl has not gotten a lot of buzz. I don't know,
maybe because nobody's been arrested or we've had. That's what it.
Maybe I don't know, Maybe it's because you know, there
(09:02):
wasn't any fights or anything like that, but it was
a big NBA news week as well. There were a
couple of hosts that came on yesterday here at Fox
and said, nice try NBA, but it's still Super Bowl week.
It's still a Super Bowl weekend. But I think that
is part of it. It wasn't only football related news
(09:22):
items throughout the week, hardly, no. And I'm like, I
thought a game like this would have more buzz, more excitement,
especially one because you got two teams that either you
love or hate them in Philadelphia and Kansas City. Um.
Also especially because of Philadelphia. I don't know, if you
saw the Twitter, they're already overturning cars and greasing up
the polls in Philadelphia. I'm not kidding around. I put
(09:44):
that on on Twitter. They so people don't climb up
the polls after the game. You know what. And five
years ago this was a major problem, among other things,
because we've seen Philadelphia fans when they lose or just
when the game's in progress. My goodness, when they won
a Super Bowl. I remember it was Jonas was on
post game after you guys five five years ago before
he started the morning show, and it was just it
(10:05):
was one of the focuses of the postgame show, is
my goodness, what's going on in Philadelphia here? Is what
was going on in the streets, not just talking about
the game post game I got I want to read
a tweet that came in from Paul Bill's Mafia that says,
the Philly fans are booing Doc Prescott for winning the
Walter Payton Man of the Year Award. That's true, they
just did. They had nominees out there exactly. So you know, well,
(10:30):
we got Michael Strahan on the crew for Fox and
Jimmy Johnson on the crew for Fox. So if they
show their heads on the field, they're going to get
the exact same reaction. N FC East. Now, Steve, how
many how much pre game did you get into? I
was listening a lot to the to the network. But
did you watch a lot of it on TV? Or
too much for you? Yeah? No, I I love digging
into all of this, and you know, you can go
(10:53):
overboard because it's what four or five hours worth? But no,
I didn't go all four or five hours. But yeah,
give me some I want to see not studio stuff.
I want to see people at the site. I want
to see what the field like looks like. I want
to see the Eagles in the home green jerseys. I
want to see all the flavor, right, And you guys
have been chowing down at the studio. I heard Harmon
opened up the wallet for the first time. Cobwebs was
(11:15):
to have come out, and but no, he's actually very generous. Um,
and you guys got a little feast down there. We
have four large boxes of pizza, and I believe that
the sodas in the fridge in the studio kitchen are
also for us. I have not been told that, so
I didn't open those two litter bottles, but I'm told
that that it is. This is somewhat of an annual
(11:35):
thing on Super Bowl. Here. Yeah, I'll take the seven
up right there in the corner. You want to hear something.
I woke up this morning and I actually had a
little bit of an upset stomach, so I didn't feel
like eating. So Mama was was broccoli soup and bicarbonateive soda.
And usually I'm eating wings and sliders and pizza and
(11:56):
stuff like that. I'm like I don't feel so good
today super Bowl Day and jet less grace the better.
We've got a game to get to. Let's not sideline ourselves.
You know you've heard that expression, you know, don't leave
it in the locker room or don't bench yourself. It's
the same for us as fans are people that in
this case, we we talk about the game all day.
There's something more important going on here, all right, I
have a thirty four thirty one. I'm going with Philadelphia, though,
(12:19):
I gotta tell you many times this week I changed
my mind. Usually I don't change my mind. I had
Philadelphia that I went back to Kansas City and then
I said, you know what, just stick with your first
team Philadelphia. I love their offense. I think they're gonna
have enough to go ahead and keep up with them.
I don't think they could be conservative. See that's the
part people like, Well, you know, I don't think it's
gonna game that it's gonna say, oh, they'll get a
field goal here, touchdown here. I think it's gonna be
(12:41):
wide open. You're gonna see both teams to be able
to get up and down the field a lot um
and maybe it'd even be more high scoring than that.
But I'm I'm going with Philadelphia to win this thing
by field goal, and I'm not even so sure that
it won't even go into overtime. The saga, that's how
close this game is gonna be. I think Philadelphia should win.
I have the I think they have the best balanced
offense defense of this matchup. And this Philadelphia d all
(13:03):
year has been great. We talk about in our lifetimes
if you say name a great defense, we're probably naming
the two thousand Ravens orth Ray Lewis and then the
mid nineteen eighties Chicago Bears defense. Well, in the last
twenty five years of NFL football, the team that in
back to back playoff games is the only team to
allow seven points or fewer was the two thousand Ravens
(13:25):
and now Philly has had a couple of games like
that back to back to get to this point. And
guess what mid nineteen eighties Bears, if you include the
playoff games, they had eighty sacks total for the season.
In fact, it was eighty two sex And where are
the Eagles right now seventy eight sacks and counting including
the playoff games. I'm not saying this is completely historic,
(13:47):
but it is elite defense all year long for Philly.
But Steve, you have to go up against the quarterback
like Patrick Mahomes. The ward is, I mean the word is,
you have to get him within two and a half seconds.
If you don't get him within two and a half seconds,
he's gonna release the ball and he's gonna get part.
God forbid you give him three to three and a
half seconds, he's gonna score forty points on you. So
is that defense still the same that you just describe
(14:08):
when you go up against Patrick Mahomes. It can be,
because we saw, fortunately for Kansas City that recent Super
Bowl against San Francisco or Tampa Bay. Remember how he
got battered Patrick Mahomes, even though the sack numbers it
wasn't like seven sacks like a borrow game, But he
got hit often in that game by Tampa Bay, and
it threw off the whole offense and it turned the
(14:29):
game into a blowout. Fortunately, Kansas City's offensive line is
so much better than even a couple of years ago.
I think they can deal with that. So if he's
gonna dump it off, what do you do with Kelsey
and what do you do with the running back. They've
added some good rookies on the Kansas City roster this year,
so Isaiah Pacheco maybe a bit of an X factor
for the offense. I know what I'm gonna say the
(14:49):
plank already when we're watching the game, I'm gonna say,
there's the eighth catch for Kelsey. Are they're not going
to guard him? I'd put all of eleven guys on him. Um,
I don't. I don't know how you guard some I
don't know how he gets so wide open. I understand
maybe he gets open from time. He gets open a lot.
I understand that, but it's so wide open. I mean,
he's like roam in the field having a sandwich out there.
It's amazing. And uh the and I know he said
(15:12):
it was more in the read than Mahomes because of
the offensive calls, and I think part of that is
because of the way they work their offense and how
the quarterback and tight end know each other that it's
not just by the book. You can feel your way
through a zone if that's what's presented. But he had
a game to start the playoffs where he was targeted
seventeen times in one postseason game and he had a
regular season game like that as well. I don't I
(15:35):
don't think he can be shut down. He's so clearly
the best tight end in the sport. He's like Mahomes,
getting almost every vote for All Pro in his position,
like a Chris Jones on defensive line for example. I
don't see how they shut him down, you know. And
and as we get ready to go to break usually
we forget to talk about fashion. This has kind of
been like the Kentucky Derby. Um, did you see the
(15:57):
outfit that Juju was worrying to the game? Did you see? Know?
I did see Fletcher Cox was well dressed coming to
the stage when he was wearing a green skirt. I
think is what it was, you know, without a skirt,
they call it the kilt or whatever whatever it is.
Someone wants to know if I have the same outfit.
I think you have that one. Don't you go going
that right now? Definite no. By the way, as we speak,
(16:20):
the Kansas City Chiefs are coming on the field, But
I repeat, we're probably still twenty minutes away from kickoff.
Even though even though one team is coming on the
field and hearing the cheers from their fans, Yeah, I
don't even know if they'll get if they'll have kickoff
by six forty. It's gonna be interesting because a lot
of places that said said six thirty. Um, it's not
six thirty. It's not six thirty Eastern. You and I
can make a wager on that. Right now, they've already
(16:41):
had one of the songs, so we've still got what
American beautiful, and then the actual national anthem still to come.
By the way, over under the national anthem went from
one minute and fifty nine seconds to what two old
four to oh five something like that. You're going over under?
I always go over on the anthem. You know. Well
that assumed that if they really carry out the last note,
(17:02):
it might be closer to to ten, right, so well,
you know, these singers like to have the spotlight, so
the exaggerated, but yeah, I enjoy it. Make it last
a little bit longer. Alright, he's Steve the Sager. He's
sitting there for Chris Planks. Plank gets there stuck on
the four oh five of Marty Spaniard, We're gonna get
you ready for Super Bowl, uh, super Bowl fifties seven.
As we talked about the keys, the X factor and again,
(17:22):

(17:45):
be more excited to announce the podcast called Up on Game?

in for plank Planke was what fifteen minutes away an
hour and a half ago. Is that what it was?
In a little l a traffic out to him there
the sag a little uh well out there that that
(18:51):
gets to not just out of towners. I believe he
was in for other work, and we're so happy that
he can actually be. As you mentioned, it's an annual
thing with you two on during the Super Bowl. I'm
so happy he's actually here in person. By the way,
there was a Fox TV announcement during the pregame show.
U asked if I had watched it. I saw them
bring Derek Jeter on this He's going to be part
(19:11):
of the Fox Baseball coverage. He and Alex Rodriguez, they're
hugging and they're gonna be joining David Ortiz and Kevin Burkhard,
who's doing football applay by play here for this game tonight.
But Derek Jeter, of course, last February resigned as part
of the Miami Marlins ownership group. He'd been with that
for four and a half years, and now he's going
to Fox Baseball. I did notice on pregame that when
(19:33):
they had the overshead shots at this stadium where the
Arizona Cardinals play that Tonight's Super Bowl had the retractable roof.
Now it's gonna be good and it's not supposed to
rain until well after the game, they say, And so
I guess the plan is for the NFL to keep
the roof open the whole time. For those who are unaware,
it's although it can be an indoor stadium, it's a
(19:55):
grass field. The grasses on a tray. They literally like
you pull a tray out of the up and they
can pull the hundred twenty yard tray of grass out
the side of the stadium and grow it outside in
the desert sun and then roll it back in for
a game. So they've had America the Beautiful. They have
the color guard on the field marching. We mentioned in
(20:15):
the last segment the Chiefs that come on the field first,
and the Eagles were not quite to the anthem. We're
only a couple of minutes away from six thirty Eastern.
We repeat, this is gonna kick off nowhere near six
By the way, I put on a tweet up a
little of a poll before a couple of hours ago.
I said, I've never heard of so many football players,
(20:36):
current players, saying that they're not watching the super Bowl,
And does this happen another sports through NBA players, I'm
not watching the NBA Championship, or I'm not watching the
Stanley Cupper, I'm not gonna watch the World Series. I
never hear that, Oh, I'm not gonna watch the super Bowl.
You know that. I have heard some players saying it,
and the reason is because it hurts too much that
part I can understand, like, I'm not gonna yeah exactly,
(20:56):
you know, you do at some point have to grow
up because you know what, for the se your life,
the Super Bowl is gonna be on it roughly this
same time every year. So are you saying the rest
of your life here? You know at some point you're
gonna have to get over it. I don't mean to
insult by saying you're gonna have to grow up, but
this is part of life, pushing through the difficulties of life.
This is one of yours as a pro player if
(21:17):
you didn't make it. But I know there are some
like Matt Williams when he played baseball and was great
for the Giants and others. He used to say, yeah,
I don't watch the sport of baseball that I play Otherwise.
That's the kind that throws me like, you're if you're
actually a participant professionally in that sport and you don't
watch other teams games postseason or not. That's what I
(21:38):
don't understand. By the way, I have a little announcement.
I've got exciting news for you to say. You and
I are going to go to the Super Bowl next
year in Las Vegas. No, you're you're saying this because
you think you have some sort of power. I'm I'm saying,
if it's gonna be Miami and Dallas, which is my prediction,
I'm gonna go see my Dolphins play. So if it's
my Dolphins in the super Bowl, you and I are Oh,
(22:00):
we got about that. Well, okay, I'll say, yeah, that
would be great. But then, of course we realized that
half of the things that come out of your mouth
are predictions that don't come true, and this will be
just another one. I'm concerned. I convinced Miami will go.
We'll see what happens with that. You were convinced of
that this year, and well, I'm always a year too
early on the other thing. On this Super Bowl shows
that I remember distinctly you were convinced of I thought
(22:22):
of today. Because Philadelphia has such a great pass rush,
and we know the Chiefs and Mahomes for all five
years of him as a starter, it's just been the
most entertaining offense to watch in the a f C.
So can they be shut down? Well, usually good pitching
stops good hitting, right, And I remember going into the
Peyton Manning Super Bowl against the Seattle defense. Wasn't that
the year Manning it thrown fifty touchdown passes and you
(22:45):
were going on and on about the offense, and all
I could think of in the back of mind, Yeah, well,
good pitching stuff. And sure enough it was, you know,
forty to ten or whatever the final score was. So
Philly has a defense. This is so curious for me
to see of that eat pass rush going up against
the case the offense. How's it gonna work? They've just
finished the anthem by the way, coming up, that's going
(23:07):
out there. They got the coin toss coming up. Serioty
the Eagles coach was in tears on the sideline as
the anthem was being played. His offensive coordinator. Separate news,
according to ESPN, is going to be the new head
coach of the Colts, by the way, Shane Styke. And
after the Super Bowl they say is going to be hired.
And I did notice that the Super Bowl to mar
(23:28):
Hamlin is there. He's been making a few select public
appearances super Bowl week in Phoenix and he was on
the field prior to the game tonight. All right, by
the way, you're you're missing the lead here our first bet.
The first bet is come on in um over hit
the national anthem two minutes and two seconds. Some people
(23:49):
said it was one minute seven seconds. I thought it
was more than that. But the over hit in the
national anthwer So we got that. We talked about that
in the first segment. Go for the over. Yeah, So
all right, we're gonna come back. We're gonna get you
ready for kickoff as the Philadelphi Eagles in the Kansas
City Chiefs are gonna get you ready for Super Bowl
fifty seven. Plank will join us as we get you
(24:12):
ready for that. But first, our first trending tonight with
our buddy Steve the saga what's going on to saga
Buba believe probably less than ten minutes until kickoff on
Fox TV of this Super Bowl fifty seven. We've got
other sports news, you know. In Phoenix they had the
always rowdy Phoenix Open at TPC Scottsdale that wound up
Scottie Scheffler successfully defended his title. We had an upset
(24:34):
in college basketball today Northwestern at home defeated number one
per duet eight. And in women's college hoops there was
a battle of undefeated. Did you notice number one South
Carolina with Don Staley from Philly on the sidelines coaching
in her Randall Cunningham Eagles Jersey. Today South Carolina destroyed
l s U eight eight to sixty four. There were
(24:56):
two NBA games Boston wins again Celtics over Memphis one
nineteen to one O nine. Celtics record forty one and sixteen,
and the Raptors edge Detroit one one eighteen. Detroit Pistons,
the team that rob Parker during the week continually. Bet
Son and we don't know why we're convinced at this
deep end of the NBA season, I'm convinced it's because
(25:18):
he used to work in Detroit, and what do they
say about gambling, You got to take the emotions out
of it. He still has an emotional attachment to Detroit, Michigan,
and it costsman costs him on a weekly basis. Piston's
record falls to fifteen and forty three after the loss today.
Among the NHL games, Vegas seven two over the Ducks,
and yes, Vegas will be hosting the super Bowl in
(25:39):
a year. Montreal a six to winner against the Oilers.
Our referee for tonight is a Southern California native spent
five years in the Pac ten Conference. That's how far
back he goes Carl Scheffer. Not only Super Bowl fifty
seven ref he would the ref for Super Bowl fifty
five and Super Bowl fifty one, and he's worked three
conference championship games. He worked recently a Divisional playoff with
(26:01):
Bengals at Bills. This is his eighteen NFL postseason assignment.
So he is on the field right now with the captains.
Thank you, Steve. The Singers's who is in the tire
rack dot com studios other than Chris Blank driving the
l A freeways? How you doing Blank? I don't know
(26:22):
how you people do this? Man, I really don't. I'm
not gonna lie, as I've I told Prefet and I
was sharing text with with bo. I literally left my
hotel and it's like forty five minute drive. I was
it was it was approximately one forty one forty five
minute plenty of time. Nope, not even close. So hey, man,
(26:46):
I'm really sorry. Uh Scott Shapiro, I apologize. I would
say I'm gave me bad directions. I'm just kidding Sam,
But um, dude, I sound great. I'm fired up. I
can't wait to sit here and spend the next what
four hours watching this game together, seeing what plays out,
and knowing that next year you'll you won't be here
because you'll be watching your Dolphins. Right I'm already declared
(27:07):
that it's going to be the Dolphins and Cowboys. And
if it's the Dolphins, you know I have to take
it off and and go. You have to give me
off already for the Arizona Wildcats when they win it,
and the New York Mats. But I'll get told that
later on. I'm excited. I'm excited for this because I'm
gonna be disappointed if it's not a close game. I
even think it could be possibly overtime. I think there's
a field goal game, Chris. You and I have done
(27:29):
an overtime game together, Arnie. Okay, let's get to some
final storylines here, because you know we're we're inching towards kickoff.
I loved what this. Oh this is where I can't
see the saga. I forgot about that in these studios, right,
I see Sam, I see Bo and then it's like
the saga is hidden over in some corner here. But um,
do you worry at all about the storyline that seemed
(27:50):
to pop up out of nowhere that Vic Fangio was
helping out Philadelphia? And I guess what do we find out,
Arnie that the future your defensive coordinator for the Dolphins
had signed like a like a three day contract. We
thank you, thank you. I'm giving it much less. Is
that a major storyline in the world of Arnie Spaniard?
(28:11):
You know what? It only is a major storyline after
the game when you find that that they planned something
and and you know what, I remember many years Uh,
this is not the first time that has happened too.
It happens quite often. We just really don't even hear
about it. But it gives you fresh eyes, you know
what I mean. It gives your fresh eyes, uh, you know,
a fresh way of looking at things. Um, maybe something
he says it triggers you and you want to change
(28:32):
a few things. But let's be honest, you don't want
to change things up too much. I mean, you got
here for a reason, so you want to dance with
who brung you. Yeah, I think, Uh, I think some
people look at and they're like, oh my gosh, we're
gonna do so many different things. They're gonna do this,
and then he can't really change too much. You kind
of you kind of are who you are at this point. Okay,
So I'm with you. I don't think it's a major story,
(28:54):
but it will be interesting to watch. Number two. Are
you worried about either of the quarterback's injuries? The shoulder
with Hurts the ankle for Patrick Mahomes worried all about that?
You know, it's funny you said that. I was just
as we went to the break, I was just kind
of looking at Twitter, reading what people were saying, saying
how it was crowded on the concourse and how they
you know, they weren't letting them, you know, I was
(29:14):
moving to the slow pace and then Dr Chow put
one out. I was scrolling to see if I could
find it up. But pretty much summing up to you,
he wrote, it looks like mahomes His ankle looks fine
during warmups, but when he came out he did run
flat footed. Um. I don't know whatever that means, but
it's from Dr Child, so you know it's got to
be something there, you know. All right, here's the coin
to us boys, A a massive moment in this game. Now, Sam,
(29:39):
this reminder, Uh, Arnie lives in the future in Vermont,
so he's probably already seen it. As their head referee
is explaining it. No spoilers, Yeah, no spoilers, Arnie, No spoilers.
Our head referee is talking to. Is that the punter?
There's the flip? Did they say tales? It is that
tales went right, Arnie. We would have been rich right
(30:01):
now if we would have taken that tales and never fails?
What do we does? Never failed? You? So with Tales,
the Chiefs deferred to the second half, so the Eagles
will get the football to start this game. Okay, So
we hit Vic Fangio, we hit the two quarterback injuries,
and one thing on the coin toss, Chris, the team
that has won the coin toss has lost the Super
(30:22):
Bowl the last eight straight years casey one and deferred
tonight stay tuned. Oh eight straight years the team that
won the coin toss lost the Super Bowl. That uh
suddenly makes me change something. That's that's like a first segment.
Arnie and I were talking about. Did you know that
Patrick Mahomes this his first postseason game wearing a white jersey?
(30:46):
Think about that teams, Yeah, because he's usually home. But
even its two Super Bowls were in Chiefs Red. In
the last couple of decades, teams wearing the white jerseys
have won fifteen of the last eight teen Super Bowls.
One of the exceptions, though, was the Eagles green upset
in New England. But usually this century, at least you
wear white, you win the big Game. Yeah. Oh absolutely, Hey,
real quick, Um, I just want to continue to ask
(31:07):
this question. How do you guys do this in this town?
I'm sure I'm not gonna lie. And I was telling
I was telling the prefet and everyone. It's like you're
you're cruising along and it's like everyone just decides, hey, y'all,
we're going too fast. Just stop. Everybody just stopped, and
we're gonna sit here on the freeway for a little bit.
How was the speed limit on any major highway fifty
(31:28):
five years or fifty Who does it? It's five? I
think those are Starbucks on the freeway and people stop traffic.
It's funny because you sent that picture, and all of
us that live out here are like, oh, yeah, you
know exactly where you are. Not long it's gonna take
you to get here. And and I would add profet,
I'm on the exit whether it's not supposed to be
(31:50):
any traffic, And guess what's on the exit arn'tie traffic,
and nobody's taking set exit. No I mentioned Arnie that
on the freeway I too to the studio. Instead of
sixty miles an hour, it was thirty miles an hour.
And I can only assume because this was not a
typical Sunday afternoon traffic, everybody was going to a party
absolutely anyway. So I'm sorry. That might be a sidebar
(32:13):
that happens a few times when I'm getting I'm not
sat down yet, had my coffee, got a break, and
by the way, already here we are at six forty
Eastern time. It still hasn't kicked off. We're two for
two in our predictions. So so here here's my question.
I was Sam. Here, here's my question. Do we take
a break now thinking this thing won't kick off for
five minutes, or do we hang because if it comes back,
(32:35):
they might kick it off off. We kind of have
to go. I gotta go. Okay, this is a time
at the time of the hour where we can't really
push it too much. That's right, that's okay, quick, right,
and this, Chris, there's usually not an opening drive touchdown
that we would be missing anywhere. Peoples are going to
start with the ball. The last time a team took
the opening kick off in the Super Bowl and drove
right down for a t d on offense was five
(32:57):
years ago, Packers Broncos. All right, we got a whole
Bradley Cooper narrated montage here. Let's get a break when
we come back, kick off, and they started the Super Bowl,
the Eagles and the Chiefs. It's Arnie and Plank Super
Bowl Show right here on Fox Sports Radio. We're underway
in the Super Bowl. Let's go run the way. The
Eagles driving big third down pick up Jalen Hurts on
(33:20):
a little crossing pattern. Arnie Spanier, I'm Chris Plank. Welcome
to our Super Bowl show here on Fox Sports Radio,
where we will be keeping you up to date as
the game progresses. No live play. What happened? What's the story?
You got yelled at by someone for doing play by
play on the radio one time? So you wasn't it
like Peter Brown back some time ago, a long time ago.
(33:42):
By by the way, they the revs already missed one call.
It looked like it was helmet the helmet. They didn't
call anything, and uh so we'll continue big first down,
as you mentioned from Philadelphia, takes the nerves away from
Jalen Hurts, takes two nerves away from Philadelphia, gets to
moving the ball. And remember Kansas City will get the
ball to start the second half, so you do want
to put points up here. And they just picked up
another first down, So, um, they're moving the ball, They're
(34:04):
looking good, and uh we'll see what they could do
on this first drive show tonight has brought you in
the part by discover we could talk about how complicated
other banks and make it to redeem credit card rewards,
or we could talk about how we discover you can
redeem your rewards for cash in any moment, at any time.
I mean talk about amazing learn more at Discovery dot
com slash redeem rewards terms apply. All right, Eagles driving,
(34:26):
You have the forty eight yard line there in Kansas
City territory, first and ten. Anything you've know. You mentioned
the missed call, But it seems as if Philly's kind
of struggling to get the running game going and that
they're gonna let Jalen Hurts wing it here early on
another big play. And you know what I gotta tell you.
Right off the start, Jalen Hurts looks calm, collected. Um,
he doesn't have any nerves. If it's showing. He's hitting
(34:48):
the receiver's downfield. He's picked up two first downs and
actually just picked up the third first down. They're in
field goal territory there at the thirty or four yard
line to Kansas City. Um, he's looked good. He's running
the ball too, So he's done a a little bit
of everything I expected him to do. If Philadelphia wants
to win this game. Right by the way, I know
we do this sometimes on this show, but we want
to remind you that as always, oh, big pass play Smith,
(35:11):
look out, he breaks it and they're gonna have it
first and just outside of gold to go, So a
big pass play to Vante Smith. So Philadelphia knocking on
the door. We want to hear from you throughout the game, right,
it's an alternative to the play by play. We're gonna
hit up some of the early odds that are hit
Sager's all over the numbers. Obviously we got Bo and
Chris Perfette and I was Sam helping us out, and
the millions and millions of editors behind the scenes that
(35:34):
are hammering out the audio as it takes place. Jalen
hurts four for his first five or fifty four yards
and the Eagles are knocking on the door. It's gonna
be second down and like one, Yeah, they didn't quite
get too inside the tender at the eleven, so was uh,
they can still pick up a first down before getting
a touchdown. And as always, you can hit us up
on Twitter at stinking Genius Swan, I'm at plank show
(35:55):
and Arnie, how about this my son and his crew
listening up at West Point. So two happiest hell boys,
Happiest hell take care of William. He doesn't like sports.
Christ first, first big decision to make here. They ran
the ball, got nothing. It's gonna be third and about two.
What are you gonna call here? I'm telling Jalen Hurts,
(36:16):
you're gonna pick it up with your legs. Um. Either
you gotta go ahead and take a you know, take
off as a quarterback right up the middle, or you're
gonna go ahead and give you an option as you
run to the right. But I gotta give him an
option of of running in and pick it up the
first of the touchdown, do you, ego straight up the
middle of you try to get him on the edge.
I think I'd probably try to get him on the edge.
I mean he's you know, he's good either way, so
(36:36):
up the middle kind of prohibits him. I'd probably get
him out to the edge on the right side. So
it's a third and three, Philadelphia looking to strike first.
They can get a first down without scoring. It shows
you what I know. They just handed off up the
middle for a touchdown. So Philadelphia Eagles are on the
board first. UM, and they get it in that gain
well with the touchdown. About that, yeah, if you had
Kenneth Gainwell. First, you probably felt pretty good it about
(37:00):
things right now, and that's one of those unique things
that Philadelphia will do, lining up guys all over the place.
And I mean, Jalen Hurts is he in? He's in?
Isn't he? It's gonna be close. I wasn't sure, but
they got the hands up pretty quick, so I'm gonna
take their word for it. It didn't look you know,
I didn't see the and as I see the replay,
oh no, no, they're looking. Have to look at this
one again. And he's not gonna make it a matter
(37:21):
of fact that it's going to be the first and
ten or because me first in golf from the one
yard line. Yeah, so don't cash those gain Well taken well.
And it's interesting because even on that play, you and
I talked about, hey, do you try to get Jalen
Hurts outside? Do you try to power run him up
the middle? He would he could have pulled that and
walked into the end zone as well. So we'll we'll
have our first review of the night, and it looks
(37:43):
like this is gonna end up with the Eagles having
first down and go well not enough. It could might
not this call there because yeah, you know what, there
the elbow is down and the ball is at the
one alf yard line. Let's see that's but see that's
a that angle that we're getting now is from a
little bit behind to play. Just oh, that's pretty good
freeze frame right there. But this is what angers me
(38:05):
so much about replay. This wasn't the intent of replay
right to have like a two inch play that ends
up getting reviewed that meet off the board. Is no
score first in goal from the from the half yard longer,
So they took it off the board, all right, So
there you go, first down in goal. Now, now the
the Bettors who had Jalen Hurts first score Jalen Hurts
(38:26):
are feeling pretty good right about now, because I mean,
isn't this just autumn. If there is anything that's more
automatic than Jalen Hurts uh short yardage And that's exactly
what they did them and push him in the back
and they had not ruled a touchdown, but it looked there,
it looked like he was in there's a flag on
the place, So I'm not sure what the call is
(38:47):
going to be, but I think he got into the ends.
I haven't seen that the Eagles guys are clapping coming away,
so that's usually and it's offsides Kansas City too well.
And I'm I'm also gonna be curious because everyone threw
a stink in the first week of the layoffs, right
because Philadelphia they thought, oh my gosh, this is illegal
what they're doing. Um, they shouldn't be allowed to have
that much that many dudes pushing their their their false
(39:10):
all these things right, all these but it works to perfection.
I mean, look, look how they're lined up. You got
a running back and a tight end and I mean
literally if and he didn't even need him on that one.
I mean, Scott pushes him and he's in there. Yeah,
how does the chief player line up off sides on that? Like,
no one jumped off side and literally he was a
helmet off sides. And with Tino and nine to go
(39:32):
in the first quarter, Arnie Jalen Hurts drives the Eagles
right down the field. The extra point is good. It's
seven nothing a big third down conversion in Philadelphia. I mean,
they were able to do whatever they want. Couldn't have
couldn't have drawn it up better. I mean, how big
was that? Your first your first drive? You have the ball.
You know the Kansas City is gonna get it to
start the second half. You come down, you pick up
a third down, you pick up two third downs, uh,
(39:55):
and you get into the end zone. It was you
couldn't have written it better than that, Chris. All right,
So Eagle fans appy as hell to start this bad boy.
They leaded seven zip. Let's see what Kansas City has
coming out. All right, So we've seen Casey do this
every now and then, may be kind of surprised you
by running the ball a little bit more. I don't
think that's gonna be the case. I think we're gonna
get the Patrick Mahomes air show, and we're here for it.
(40:17):
We're just underway covering the Super Bowl here on Fox
Sports Radio, coming to you live from the tire Rack
dot Com Studios. That's Arnie Spaniard. I'm Chris Blank, live
in our tire Rack studios in Los Angeles. And when
we come back, the first drive for the Kansas City
Chiefs on Fox Sports Radio, the Chief's answer right back,
(40:38):
as we come to you alive from the tire Rack
dot Com Studios, a wavos drive and you're Travis Kelsey.
Touchdown anytime ticket cash is big time big I was like,
that doesn't have a really great odds on it, but
you gotta bettercase. You know, he's gonna have a touchdown
eighteen yard touchdown pass Kelsey on receiving end. We're not
(41:01):
at at seven as we welcome you in two hour two,
but time is irrelevant during the next however long these
games take. Our game takes because Arnie and I will
be here with you on Fox Sports Radio. Okay, guys,
let's uh get some early thoughts on what we learned
and what we've learned so far through two drives. I
think the one thing that really jumps out Arnie teams
(41:24):
really struggling stopping each other. Yeah, it's obviously it's the
type of game that I thought it was going to be.
I I said thirty four thirty one. I know people say, well,
Kansas City has only given up more than thirty points.
I believe once this whole year. Um really doesn't make
a difference because this ego offense is just so proficient. Uh,
it was just remarkable. And if I have the underbet
right now, I'm I'm tearing up that ticket. I'm gonna
(41:45):
say it's it's going way over and Vegans is not
gonna be happy about that. I'm gonna be fascinated to
see what the adjustments will be, um because I know
that you know that I hate win probability. But it's
literally just straight down the line. I mean a little
bit to Philadelphia, a little bit to Kansas City. It
has been as expected to start this game out, maybe
Kansas City, Arnie running the ball a couple more times
(42:07):
than we thought, and then homes two for two for
thirty six yards and the touchdown. Isaiah C. Checko had
three carries for twenty nine yards, both receptions to our
both passes to Travis Kelsey. But then I think we
are all kind of taken back by what Philly and
they jumped out throwing the football. But Checko had a
great run on the left side. He looked just solid.
(42:28):
I mean, he was a beast on that. And I
think what the adjustment is gonna be is you're no
longer going to single coverage Travis Kelsey. I mean, you
just can't do that. It's got to stop. I'm gonna
make somebody else beat me. And he was. It was
it was it was easy pitch and catch there. It
was it was. It was he was wide open, um,
good throw, good catch seven seven. So I think if
the game goes on, you're gonna have to see some
(42:49):
double teaming on him. Otherwise he's just gonna destroy you.
We're broadcasting live from the tirerack dot Com studios. Tire
rack dot com will help you get there and unmatched selection,
fast free shipping, free road hazard to protect action, and
over ten thousand recommended installers. Tire rack dot com the
way tire buying should be Now. Obviously, throughout the game,
we got a great crew Arnie that's back calling audio
(43:11):
for us, pulling it off for us. We got about
five six guys back here that are making sure that
we get the latest highlights and uh immediate quotes, so
we'll bring those as they happen. But I mean, I was,
I was worried that maybe Jalen, you know, as cool
and calm as he is, you just never know in
these big games. I mean, the last big game I
saw Jalen Hurts playing for a championship. It it did
(43:34):
not go well, right, did not go well at all
whenever he got smoked by l s U in the
National Championship game. But I gotta be honest with you, man.
I I'm really impressed with his I'm really impressed with
his poise here early on. You know what's interesting, I
think I was gonna say this before the game. I
think he was gonna go out of his way to
run a little bit, just so they say, hey, if
he doesn't pass, I'm gonna burn you with my legs.
(43:56):
And I swear I thought the same thing for Mahomes.
He's gonna all that his his ankles okay, and that
he was going to get in a run, and he
had a pretty good run like nine yard or just
to show hey, I'm okay, I could run this thing too.
Um if you're if nobody's open. So I think both
wanted to go ahead and get a run in there.
At least I think they did all right, Um anything
adjustment wise, I know we're not big X and no guys,
(44:18):
but I wonder if you'll see Kansas City, maybe try
to turn up the pressure here a little bit, Steve,
Steve Spagnola not a huge blitz guy. Maybe ask for
a little bit more from Chris Jones. But I mean, Philly,
I mean, both teams really kind of have their way offensively,
in their first drives. If I'm both teams, I'm blitzing
both guys. I can't let you. I can't let Jalen
Hurst just sit around back there, run around and then
(44:39):
take off any time he wants to take off for
five yards. And I can't have Patrick Mahomes. They say
two and a half seconds, he's gonna beat you. I
can't have him standing back there for three or four seconds. Um,
then it's over. So I've got to put some pressure
on him. Um if he beats me the because he
gets the ball away too early, then then so be it.
But I'm I'm not gonna let him stand there and
pick me apart. So first inten just short of the
(45:02):
twenty five actually right at the twenty five yard line
in a big game on first down for gain, Well,
I love how they use him. There is a flag
on the play. Did you notice, though, before that first
snap of the second drive for Philadelphia, each team the
exact same amount of yards. Both have seventy five yards, right? No?
I didn't notice that. I thought, yeah, well they did
the offensive pass inter fearence on a throw out there.
(45:26):
That's a little it's gonna be one of those, yeah,
it's gonna be those kind of nights. It's gonna be
one of those kind of nights to where uh he
was And that was dumb too. He was blocking well
in front of the play, so you can't engage your
your defender Pascal before the passes even thrones it was.
It was thrown. He just not caught it yet, right, Yeah, no,
you you literally that far down in the field. He's
(45:47):
starting to block him, and if he's trying to make
a play, it's like, what are you doing. He's the
corner trying to cover the guy in the flat. So
Philadelphia will work from deeper within its own territory. First
in twenty seven seven game here early on with Arnie's fanyear,
I'm Chris Plank. We're watching the Super Bowl together with you.
Was there anything is Philly grinds a short run on
first down? See that? This is this is where you know,
(46:09):
a penalty like that put your third yards back and
it kill kills the drive unless you could overcome and
pick up a first down. Next thing, you know, you
don't get the first down, you gotta put the ball
back to Kansas City and and they're on the move,
so you know, penalties like that just destroy you. You
you said something right off the top that that stayed
with me that you didn't think that it was all
that exciting or interesting of a super Bowl week, and uh,
(46:30):
I kind of agree. But but but again, I don't
think that's a bad thing, aren't he because and here's
why I think everyone was so excited about the actual matchup.
You know, Roger Goodell didn't say say anything too crazy
during his State of the League address. Um As you said,
no one got in trouble during this week. I mean,
your biggest story that came out of this week was
a trade in the NBA. But then that kind of
(46:52):
took backstage because we immediately realized, though, the super Bowl
is here now with Jalen Hurts facing another third down,
third and fourteen, this time longest down and distance of
the day for either team. But I think this, I
think this was the story of the week, Ardie, the
actual game, and that can be a rarity sometimes with
the Super Bowl. Yeah, that's what we had here. Um
As you just mentioned third and four team for Jalen Hurts.
(47:13):
I'm kind of curious to see if they could go
forward or they're gonna throw short and try to see
if they could if the receiver can can pick up
the yards. Uh, you know obviously you don't want to
have any turnovers, you don't want to make any mistakes.
And matter of fact, he just throws it away. Uh
there was nobody open. He was scrambling for his life
and uh there's the Kansas City defense stepping up there.
So good job by the Chief's defense. No real adjustments,
(47:34):
but what did we see the penalty? Exactly? Absolutely that
was the big difference maker in that you cannot get
yourself behind the chains, and that's exactly what the Eagles
did in that situation. And you know, smart play too.
Who's that Who's fifty five for Kansas Cities at Frank Clark?
Smart play by flight Frank Clark to pull up right
and not get too caught up in, you know, being
(47:55):
too overly aggressive. Was it was close to the sideline,
which I'm not sideline. There's a fifteen yard pat healthy
there right, and that ended up helping to put Kansas
City where they are right now. So that was a
really smart play. Can Darius Tony who did that? He
hit a chief player? I was thinking that's why he
had to pick it up, it might have hit a
Chiefs player, So Tony decides to go ahead and pick
it up just to be safe, and pick up about
ten yards fifteen yards on the point. So then, so far, aren'tie.
(48:17):
We've we We've got about what we've expected, right, a
little offensive prowess on the first drive, and then what happens?
You see a minor at Jetwell, you see stupid penalty
and and in Kansas City and Justin slows him down.
Let me ask you this, if you had who did
you have winning before the game? Who was your pick? Um?
I pick Kansas City? Okay, if you had Philadelphia winning
the game after what you've seen so far, would you
(48:39):
have changed your mind or No? If I could change
my pick, if what I've seen so far would change
my mind, No, I don't think so. I don't think so.
I I think I would believe that things are gonna
be okay because I've got Patrick Mahomes right right right, Well,
I mean because I I have Philadelphia and just based
on what I saw right now, Um obviously doesn't make
(49:00):
a difference. You know, I'm not Either team is not
my team, but the Chiefs look better. For some reason,
I just feel like they're Maybe it's because Kansas City
came up with that big stop there, but um, I
just feel like the Chiefs look better. We'll have to
wait and see. By the way, a couple of quick
texts or tweets, excuse me, it's the best way to
stay in touch with the program. At Stinking Genius one.
I'm at playing show and everybody should be following us
(49:21):
at Fox Sports Radio. Um, Paul writes, will Chris be
leaving in the third hour the show to make sure
he gets back in time with the traffic out there?
You never know, Um, when you head back to Oklahoma
tomorrow morning, I'm not flying out until well where I'm
staying after that? I mean, I got a little I
(49:43):
gotta get back to Irvine, California. I'm not staying anywhere
close to this bad boy. UM here's a good point
by Adam while we're in a commercial break that we
can debate professional sports trophy rankings. He's got the Stanley
Cup one, Lario Brian too, Bartie Trophy three and that
stupid flag thing MLB has are they talking about, Like, um,
(50:06):
you know, which is most prestigious or which is the
better looking of the of the four. What which what
are we? That's a good question. I when he just says,
I would say the best. How's that the most the
most aesthetically pleasing? Well, I why little Marty Trophy is nothing?
You know, great, it's just a regular trophy with a
(50:26):
football on top, right, that's the one he's talking about, right, Yeah, yeah,
I mean it's but but it's iconic, right, It's got that. Boy,
I don't want to describe anything that talking about bass
and a football on top of it, because I'll just
end up getting in trouble. But I mean it's like iconic, right,
So it's not yeah, with the names on it and
that you have to take a part away after so
(50:47):
many years and or out of part. Yeah, that that's
the most iconic. That's the best one, no doubt, Brendan. Right,
so far, I'm sticking with my pick from last week. However,
I can envision Philadelphia destroying Kansas City in this game,
but not the other way around. My final pick Philly
Kansas City twenty one. Is this a moment then, Arnie,
where where maybe the Eagles can kind of change that
(51:08):
perspective and momentum if Kansas City goes right down and
it scores a touchdown again where they did not face
any adversity in that first drive. No, yeah, Eagles pretty much.
You can say the same thing about them also, and
now they're they're on the move. I want to bring
up one quick treat that Frank had. I didn't say this.
It says Miles Sanders hasn't been on the field for
a bit. Is that developing or developing? I didn't see that.
(51:31):
I saw him. He had the first play of the
game right where he had the one yard loss. I
don't know if he was on after that. I really
didn't notice that. Let's see. Um yeah, no, I don't
see anything to him. Uh he had the incomplete pass.
Oh that was the last drive. I'm a moron. I'm
trying to look at the they'll play by play and yeah,
you're right, Arnie, he had. Miles Sanders had the first
round up the middle, and we haven't seen him since.
(51:53):
So that a storyline worth watching. Kansas City is gonna
have its first third. Uh yeah, a third down of
the game coming up here. It'll be thirty Well, let's way,
there's a flag on the play as it stands right now,
would be what about third and one? Maybe third and
and and you're close to two, and it's gonna be
on Philadelphia, so it's gonna go. Yeah, that's GONNAIVETI the
(52:13):
first down. So to kind of give you an idea
of how smooth that first drive was for Kansas City,
six place, seventy five yards, and how good this drive
is looking as well. When they get a face mask
at the end of that. Uh no, uh no, it
was holding. Okay, yeah, no, there it is a legal
hands to the face. They've got Sue and Dominicans. Sue
there in the middle making his presence felt here early.
I have Kansas City no penalties for the whole game.
(52:36):
I should have bet that. I know. I can see
that right off the bat well they had a first one.
I take that back, the one no they well it
it was decline. So you still have hope Barney Man. Listen,
as a fan of a team in the a f
C West, we know that sweet whistle always comes away
of the Kansas City Chiefs. I mean, come on, alright,
So a fresh set of down to Casey already approaching
(52:58):
midfield and Mahomes just guys are running wide open right now.
Kelsey puts it down near the red zone, and just
this offensive ease with which Kansas City is working with
is incredible right now, I mean absolutely incredible there. Uh,
it took them six plays to score on the first drive.
They they never faced a third down. Their longest down
(53:19):
and distance outside of first and ten was a second
and seven. And now instead of facing a third down,
in short, they get the penalty for a first down
and aren't either knocking on the door again Patrick Mahomes
four for four for sixty six yards to start this
game and a touchdown. They're not Yeah, they're not getting
any pressure on not even just now. You threw the
ball away because he's like, it's first down. I'm I'm
not gonna force anything. But he's he's standing back there.
(53:42):
We remember we said two and a half seconds to throw.
He had about four or five seconds to throw on
that one, and just said, I'm just gonna get a
you know, throw it out of bounds. But you can't
give him that much time. That that's what he'll destroy
you if you do that. All right, So a couple
of numbers here while we watch Kansas City second drive
of the game, tied at seven, the Eagles and the
Chiefs both scored on their opening drives. That means that
this super Bowl is the first since Super Bowl thirty
(54:06):
two between the Packers and the Broncos in which both
teams scored on their opening drive. About that they just scored,
not not touchdowns, just just had scores. Though right scored
a TV, Right scored a TV. Sorry and if I
did not clarify. And Travis Kelsey's sixteen touchdown of his
career pasted Rob Grenkowski for second in NFL history, Arnie
(54:30):
So Now in NFL history, Patrick Robert? What am I saying?
Rob Gronkowski second in NFL history in the playoffs for
touchdown receptions, he trails only Jerry Rice Chris. The first
big major decision here, Mahomes got tangled up, decided to
do one of his Bologny plays where you like flicks.
(54:51):
It almost got picked off. No, don't call Bologny. Don't
call bologn. He got a name for it. You ready.
It's a yolo play. You only live life one so
yolo play. And he's out here scrambling. Oh and on
fourth and three they're gonna go for a long field goal.
I would not I'm not so sure I would have
done this. I think with Mahomes out there, I would
have gone four down, fourth down. They think the three
points is worth it. Yeah, and let's see if they're
(55:14):
and bud Ker has been pretty money. How far you
got on that m forty two yard or no, no, no, no,
fifty two yardard forty two yards? I was right. Landy
Reid is looking at his play sheet. I wonder if
they're going to call a time out here now make
say forty two yeah, forty two yards. I wonder if
he might call a time out and go for it, because, yeah,
I'm let me tell you this, if this is not
the Super Bowl and he missed it, doyk, we got
(55:36):
a doyk. We got our first do because they're been
on that. I don't know if that there's a dock,
but we have our first dock. And I gotta tell you,
if this was not the Super Bowl, um, he goes
forward in all seventeen regular season games and the playoffs.
I think he made the wrong decision there before he
missed that. Sager, what are we hearing about? Miles Sanders?
We hit the left up right just now by the way,
and Miles Sanders got popped on that first run. That
(55:58):
you mentioned went into the locker room has run back
to the sidelines. We assume that means as they take
over after the missfield goal that he's good to go
late first quarters. Alright, well, keep an eye on it
as we come to tonight from the tire rack dot
Com studios. The Eagles will have the football back when
we come back tied at seven in the Super Bowl,
and we're covering it right here on Fox Sports Radio.
All Right, it's the Super Bowl and it's Alnaie and Plank,
(56:21):
a tradition unlike any other. Though you hate this show, no,
I don't hate you do. Just be honest with the
people show. I say yes all the time. Don't I
guilt you into it? That's I guilt you in and
then I show up late. I mean, how typical? Is that?
A real quick I do want to say this. Bernie,
Bernie Fratto texted me there was a bet on the
(56:42):
doink doink was plus four oh five, and one of
our listeners sent that into Jim and you could bet
that the first field goal or that would there be
a missfield goal in there? And I don't know, is
this is this a big deal? Um? In a couple
of neighborhoods in Philadelphia right now the cable went out. No, yes,
I'm not kidding around. Comcast has announced in a few
(57:03):
of the neighborhoods in Philadelphia the cable has gone out
and they're doing their best they can to hook it
back up. I guess they got a few phone calls
on that. I would say so, I would say so
to Segre what do you got? Not only because of that,
they said, we're trying to restore services after vandalism, impacting
service to a few thousand customers there what Kansas City
(57:26):
fans or as we talked about pregame, it's probably just
Eagles fans. Can you imagine if they don't get it
back up for a while. Didn't we have something like
this last year a Fox Sports app, Ladies and gentlemen,
or just listen to us. We're tied up at seven
right now, and what do we have a time out
on the field? So kanser the first into the first alright? Alright,
(57:49):
So we're into the first quarter, tied up at seven
between Kansas City and Philadelphia. All right, boys, first quarter
thoughts will go around the horn. Annie, Let's start with you,
what's kind of caught your eye in the first quarter
here of a seven seven game. I think both offensives
have looked really good. I mean, Kansas City did stop
Philadelphia once, but they got the other way around. Um,
I think right now it is kind of an even game,
(58:09):
anybody's game right there. I think Andy Reid made a
big mistake by going from the field goal. I said
that before he kicked at it was a forty two yarder,
which is trtually pretty easy, makable one. But um, you're
going to win a Super Bowl. Going up ten seven
doesn't really make much of a difference then, and you're
getting the ball back at halftime, so uh a touchdown there,
you know you're you're flexing your muscle. Um. I think
both offenses look good. As a matter of fact, As
(58:31):
I'm saying that Philadelphia just scored a touch shot hearts
on a bomb to A J. Brown, a big fist
pup from bow Benson in the tire rack dot Com,
I guess Kansas City complaining that it should have been
offensive pass interference, but they didn't get the call. Forty
five yard t d on the first play of the
second quarter, by the way, So with that in mind,
(58:52):
Kansas City falls behind with the extra point pending to Seger,
what's caught your eye in the first courting now, obviously
nobody's getting stopped in the passing game? Was what I
was gonna say, honestly, because Davante Smith has been targeted
four times, he has four catches for almost fifty yards.
Travis Kelsey has been targeted three times. He has three
catches sixty yards and a touchdown and now a bomb
(59:12):
to open the second quarter fourteen seven Philadelphia. I don't
think that was that was an offensive p I either
was that defense though. They had two guys back there
and I think one of the corners got turned around,
is what happened. Uh, let's check an Eagles fan, Bo Benson.
How we feeling? How we doing over there? You're good?
You okay, feel a little better now? Yeah, I was
(59:33):
gonna say, um, what is it called when you have
like positive PTSD? Because that that's what I had when
I saw Andy Reid kick that field goal. Instead of
see what you're saying, I see what you're saying. He
was terrible. That's such a such an Andy classic Andy
Reid move and I love him to death forever. But yeah,
that that made no sense for fact. What's what caught
(59:53):
your eye coming out of the first going to say,
it feels like to that effect that you know you
talk about, this game is probably gonna one by whoever
makes the least amount of mistakes. But so far in
the first quarter, it felt like the mistakes the Chiefs
did make were kind of more consequential at the end here.
So and that's where I can back up what he
just said, because I remember on our show last two
(01:00:14):
weeks ago the a f C Championship game, we mentioned
the Bengals had two little missed opportunities in the second
quarter and wound up losing by a field goal at
Kansas City. Here, Casey misses a forty two yard field
goal which has Bow mentioned. It was a fourth and
three inside the Eagles twenty five. They chose to kick
and got no points. But that Bengals lost in the
(01:00:34):
a f C Title game. On red zone tds, they
were one for three. They had to settle for two
short field goal second quarter. They had a first down
down at the Kansas City fifteen, settled for three. They
had a first and goal at the five two in
completions late first half, settled for three. Wound up losing
by three. Yeah, and it's just it. It feels like
just Kansas City has a lot more chances defensively to
(01:00:55):
get the Eagles off the field, and no, they're just
allowed to keep just grinding on these drives and then
that A J. Brown pass just takes the top off two.
Just getting beat in the grinding way. You're getting beat
on the explosive plays. Kind of need to tighten up here.
Do you want a wild number on that, Arnie? According
to Dave zan Garow, the forty five yard bomb from
(01:01:16):
Jalen Hurts to A J. Brown is the second longest
play in the Super Bowl for the Eagles, behind Nick Foles.
To Corey Clement, you're telling me Ron Gewartski didn't hit
Mike Quick. Yeah, but don't you say it all super
gonna get out of Yeah, because when I first started
reading it and I saw the first time, was like,
this can't be all Super Bowls. I'm like, oh, Eagle
(01:01:37):
super Bowl history. Which again there, I mean that this
is what their fourth trip to the Super bowls so extensive, massive, Right,
We're not talking about the New England Patriots here, but
you know you're behind the sticks a little bit here
for Kansas City, now, Arnie, but you can't get too
caught up in trying to make and let Patrick Mahomes
just be the guy who has to do everything right.
And now it's an interesting situation, but it's going to
(01:01:57):
be about third and seven right around there. They didn't
put up the number yet, but um, what do you
do here? Do you blitz Mahomes so he doesn't have
time back there to pick up the first down, but
you can't make him too comfortable back their big third
down situation here with the Chiefs down fourteen seven, I'm
already worried about the running game for Casey guys. They
had one long run from Pacheco. Aside from that, it's
five carries twelve yards. Well, and let's see if Kansas
(01:02:20):
City makes an adjustment to maybe bracket or double Travis
Kelsey here who's in the right slot. We'll get a
trending update after this third down and eight play where
Philadelphia potentially can get the football back with a fourteen
seven lead and really take control of this game incomplete pass.
They're gonna throw a flag for p i No as
Kansas City gonna cry after every play though he was
(01:02:42):
being hold. I take that back to Yeah. A matter
of fact, that was there was two players that were
being held by their jerseys for Kansas City. I I
I missed the uh. I didn't see the second one's number.
But there was two players that were held by the jersey.
And again that play starts with pressure on Patrick Mahomes,
which is something Arnie and that very first drive they
(01:03:04):
did none of and very little in the second drive,
but Hassan read it, got around that edge and forced
that throw to be made a little bit sooner than
maybe they wanted. Always think, I'm sorry that the Kansas
City punter just made a massive mistake. He could have
easily sold out a running into the punter situation. The
ego player came right into him, but he maintained his battle.
I think you get to draw enterprise. He didn't do
(01:03:25):
the soccer pannel there. Usually you always hear about halftime adjustments,
and always what I hear instead is like, you know,
defense just evolves over the course of a game like this,
So like yeah, and after the first drive force drives.
This year has always looked really sloppy when it comes
to defense, and then they immediately tightened up and like
a driver too, especially as you get close to the
half here, Like you always hear about this concept to
the middle eight minutes, the four before the half, the
(01:03:48):
four after the half, and that's gonna be really interesting
to see. I think that's where you really see the
true face of teams once they've made those quote unquote
halftime adjustment. Well, here we go. We're starting the third
drive of the game. For the fourth drive of the
game for the Philadelphia Eagles. Scored a touchdown on their
first drive, three and out on their second drive, things
to a holding penalty, big touchdown passing their third drive,
(01:04:11):
leading fourteen to seven. Let's see what's on tap from
the tire Rock dot Com studios. It'sarni and Plank and
Steve to Seger with what's trending in the world of
sports and what's all over the Super Bowl. A J.
Brown with a forty five yard touchdown catch from Jalen
Hurts on the first play of the second quarter is
given the Eagles a fourteen seven lead in the Super
Bowl against Kansas City. And as soon as that happened,
two of our Fox Sports radio guys pointed out one
(01:04:34):
t J. Houshman Sad has said, A J. Brown being
a baseball player and his past played a huge part
in his ability on that play adjusting and making a
hard catch look easy. Are Bucky Brooks, who is also
a high school coach, saying, probably not a coincidence. A J.
Brown was a legitimate baseball prospect in high school, a
plus ball skills, tracking ability, probably honed on the baseball
(01:04:57):
diamond as a youngster. And look at how great catch was.
And it puts the Eagles in the lead as far
as team stats so far. And we're still early in
the second quarter in Arizona for this game. Eagles offense
has nine first downs already and almost a hundred and
forty five yards of offense. So yeah, they got stopped
once and it had to punt, But is Casey going
(01:05:17):
to come up and make a statement defensively? That's how
they ended the a f C Championship. Remember, and of
course they weren't the first team to get pressure on
Joe Burrow, let's be honest, but they did sack him
five times in the game. Chris Jones had two of them,
including the key sack on third down in the final
minute with the game tied. Something like That's gonna need
to happen, because at the moment, Philadelphia, the best team
(01:05:41):
in the NFL through the regular season, has not exactly
been stymy. Philly Leeds fourteen to seven. This is a
matchup of teams that are sixteen and three coming into
the game, and to start today, each had scored the
exact same amount of points five forty six including postseason.
If Jalen Hurts can win this game tonight, he will
(01:06:03):
be seventeen and one as a starter this season. Remember
he missed the two late season games when they lost. Earlier,
the news that the Colts reportedly planned to hire Eagles
offensive coordinator Shane stike In as their new head coach,
and there were two NBA games today, wins for Boston
and Toronto, each at home. Upset in college hoops at Northwestern,
the home team beat number one per duet players back
(01:06:26):
out on the field. It's going to be an Eagle's
first down early second quarter at the super Bowl fourteen
seven Philly. No panic time, Yeah, thanks Steve, great stuff
from the tire rack dot com studios. No panic time
yet for the Chiefs. No, but if they if they
do lose this game, Chris every Chiefs fan is gonna
say that you go back to the field goal with
Tube that was the turning point. Though they'll be pointing
(01:06:47):
to stuff like that. I wonder if we'll have so
much a scoring by the time this game ends up.
No one even remembers that. But it's a big moment
in the game, right I'm not necessarily disnagree disagreeing with you,
but you look at key moments in this game. You
chose a forty two yard field goal over one of
the most consistently good offenses in all of the NFL. Yeah,
(01:07:09):
to pick up three yards. What does it say. I
don't know if it was so much lack of confidence
to the fact that he just wanted to get the
lead and kick the field goal, and um, that was
the mistake. He's gonna look back at that at the
press conference and say that's something I wish I had
a chance to do over again. But right now, no
big deal. It's fourteen seven and uh, Philadelphia. If I'm
Philadelphia and Jalen heard something and don't turn the ball over,
it's a big third down. We need some points because, um,
(01:07:31):
you don't want to keep this lead. So I'm curious
to see what they're gonna do here. By the way,
that was a beautifully set up screen that I don't know.
I don't know if you give credit to Bolden for
just blowing that thing up. But if he doesn't make
that tackle on Goddard, I mean he's gonna go for
a while. Arnie. He had a lot of convoy in
front of him. So now a third and long, big
(01:07:52):
third and eight here, big twelve O six to go.
In the first half, the Eagles are up fourteen to
seven on the Kansas City Chiefs were covering Super Bowl
fifty seven right here on Fox Sports Radio. Jalen's trying
to do too much. Jalen's trying to do too much. Oh,
it's got Davonte Smith first down. I would Smith either
(01:08:13):
is it my bad? Um? Sorry if you're if you're Pascal, Pascal,
thank you, okay? Um. I thought he was making mistake
Garney because he drops back. Clark gets pressure, he pivots
out and literally runs backwards, and Pascal just works his
way into an open area and hurts finds him. I
mean it literally turned into an easy pitch and catch.
(01:08:33):
When he pivoted out, I'm like he's taken off. There
must be some green grass ahead of him because he's
gonna be running for miles, but yet it was covered
on the other side. He was lucky to find Pascal
that that was a big first down there, and um,
they're moving the ball. We'll see what happens on this drive.
But they got some movement going on here, and I
believe Sanders back in the game, and he's got the
ball down to Yeah, you know, de Sager had been
all over there and then that's actually not Sanders on
(01:08:56):
the carry. That is why can I not see anyone's
name on the back of their jerseys right now? But
the problem more than anything else was that Sanders was
out for a little bit and we were worried if
it might be something a little bit more serious. Aren't
because oh gain well, gain well in that because he
had left the field, had Miles Sanders, But he returned
(01:09:17):
so far hasn't had a pass catch yet. Two carries
for negative two yards, but definitely a guy who's back
on the field and necessary for for Philadelphia. And look
where the Eagles find themselves again. Aren't there a second?
And well they that didn't go anywhere. Um, but they're
in a third and short situation. I mean, again, easy, easy,
usual pick up for them. They've been fantastic on second
(01:09:38):
and third and short all season long. I'm curious to
see what the decision making us to be if they
don't pick up the first. Yeah, I could say they're
gonna do the old I'm gonna push everybody in the
back and oh, they just screwed up Philadelphia, big mistake procedure.
They're gonna move it back five yards. It's gonna not
be fourth or third and five and a half or
something to that effect. You're really gonna do this to you,
(01:09:59):
to us all game long, aren't you? No, No, you're
doing that was a big play though. They screwed that up.
I mean they were doing the push in the back play.
He has a he has a remote where he could
pause it, which would be literally three seconds to be
right on part with what everyone is watching. But no,
he wanted to hear the footy part of this. They
were not going to call a penalty on that until
(01:10:21):
you are you are not paying attention, saying, but they
were going to call it until the chief players said no, no, no, no,
they's an a pointing they got you gotta call that,
and they finally threw the flag on that play, so
the second big penalty that that really hurts Philip. Wow,
look at this guys, big play here, fumbles the football
(01:10:42):
picked up by Kansas City and they're gonna take it
to the house. Jalen had some sort of problem as
soon as he started to run. I don't know if
anyone touched it. He just lost the football and Nick Bolton,
the Missouri grad, takes it to the house for a
big Kansas City touchdown. We've talked about big mistakes being
the big differ Kansas City probably not counting on an
offensive touchdown, but I mean, that was just a big mistake.
(01:11:06):
It just slipped out of his hands. And I just
said to you, if you're Jalen hurt, gosh, yeah, it
just slipped out of his hands. Who at the quarterback
kicked it and Bolton goes forty four yards the other way.
I was just about to mention, hey, no turnovers yet
in the first half, and we got back to back
botched plays. False start when you're gonna have the play
(01:11:26):
that works every time that quarterbacks need and then right
after that fumbled by the quarterback, Bolton the other way
fourteen tie. That is a massive what a twist, massive
monumental momentum change, third and short of possibly picking up
the first down, moving the ball going up to attend
(01:11:47):
the fourteen point lead too, I got a penalty? What's
backing up the fourth and six or third and six?
Fumball picked up for a Chief's touchdown, and now it's
fourteen fourteen. Yeah, that was as far as breaks. This
makes up for case. See missing the field goal that
hit the upright, because at the moment the Eagles had
double the first downs, about double the time of possession,
and they don't have to lead at all anymore. Wow.
(01:12:08):
He and oh by the way, Kansas City, just the
offensive touchdown and now a defensive touchdown. Look Out, this
thing just got interesting. Whenever it looked like Philadelphia might
be able to have their way with it, Jalen Hurts
was trying to shift from one hand to the other
and drop the f It was Bolton who was pressuring
him as well. Well deserved TV let's get a break

here in the very first segment. It's fourteen fourteen in
the Super Bowl. I'm in our l A Studios. Sherman
oaks to be exact, and Arnie is out in Vermont
(01:13:12):
because he hates the West Coast. But no, as we
wants to walk here to get fired. That's that's right,
that's right. You actually were. But as Philadelphia faces a
third down, it couldn't be more simple, it says on
off talk back cough, and I kid you not. I've
turned the mic on by hitting the like I've been
trying to turn it off on hitting the off button
(01:13:33):
for most of the night. It's been a terrible experience
for me. All right, what do you do? Heret well,
First of all, the type of possession way in Philadelphia's favorite.
This is how you win a game. Here. Fourth down.
Now it's going to be fourth and short, and I
think they're gonna go for it. This is what they
ran to set up right right. This is what Andy
Reach should have done back when he had a chance.
He went for the field goal. They're on their own
(01:13:54):
forty five yard line. It's fourth and five, they're going
for it. I was gonna say, Jalen hurt has run
a little bit too much, I ask me, But I
can't believe the going for it on fourth and five. Un,
Let's just try to draw him off sides. Here we go,
fourth and five, they're at the forty five yard line
of the Chiefs, and oh, they're gonna run a play.
It's a Hurts keeper. He's got an angle first down
(01:14:15):
Philadelphia and Jalen Hurts his off. Wow. Yeah, he's got
like what seven rushes. Now he's really running the ball.
Have to double check his stats on that. But actually,
I take that back. That was his ninth care of
the of the game so far. What did we just
talk about during the break that Nick Bolton blew up
a quarterback draw on that fumble by Hurts, and here
(01:14:38):
he got caught too far inside and there was plenty
of room outside for Hurts. Very similar play, completely opposite results,
and Gutsie called thirteen first downs to just five first
downs for Kansas City. Um, Gutsie called foot off. He's like, hey,
we're in to win this. I'm not so sure I
would have gone forward on the on the Kansas City
forty five and fourth and five, especially knowing that you
know you've you've had the ball for so long, you're
(01:15:00):
probably gonna get it back and they're just gonna grind
away here. I mean, my gosh, any there's four thirty
eight to go in the first half. You you might
get this back to Kansas City with what after the
two minute more? If you can score here, of course,
right and you use the word grind they could. They
could have forty carries Philadelphia the way things are going
right now with three running backs and Miles Sanders has
(01:15:23):
two carries minus two yards and they're still moving the ball.
I mean, go ahead. The Eagles have been very The
Eagles have been very conscious, I think to snap the
ball with five or less seconds on the play clock.
I think you're right. And and on this one they
do it with seven, so yeah, they're they're cognizant of that.
Davante Smith gets a little room. It's gonna be t
(01:15:44):
he's hurt, he's been bad, and yeah he's he's asking
out of the game right now. And yeah he he
did something to that ankle when he was getting up. Yeah,
and he is. He's a guy that's had a couple
of injury issues in his career, so that worries you
actually with the way that he's doing that kind of
walk where someone's holding the door for you and you're
(01:16:05):
a little bit too far away and try to start
faking like the same type of injury on tackles that
we've seen earlier in the playoffs, where the defender leaves
his feet and all his weight goes to essentially the
knee that's twisted awkwardly for the ball carrier. Well, I
talk about how Philadelphia could pretty much run this thing
down in the first half, fourth down with three to go.
(01:16:26):
Do you go for it on fourth and three? Or
do you kick the field goal and learn what Andy
Reid did? What are you gonna do? I think if
you can go for it on fourth and five, you're
gonna go for it on fourth and three and try
to get the touchdown. Looks like yeah, they're they're bringing
the jumbo and DeVante Smith back in the game. Looks
like he's moving a little bit better. Look look for
Jalen Hurts to run it again. I mean, if he's
gonna run it with nine ten times so far, they're
(01:16:48):
using his legs to go ahead and get around Kansas City? Right,
can you push them two yards? No, they're gonna have
three receivers here in this formation they spread them to
someone's gonna be wide open for Philadelphia. Did Kansas City?
John Mike, I'm not so sure. Philadelphia jumped. Also, I'm
not so sure they're gonna watch the officials hands here?
Oh no, one gave it away. Usually an official will
(01:17:08):
become running in flags on the line and the back. Yeah, big,
it's gonna go against Kansas City. Wow, off fourth and two?
Oh my goodness, case see what are we doing? Okay,
so we still got a time game for now, under
three minutes still halftime. He might have been lined up
off sides. I think he was lined up, But we're
(01:17:29):
coming up on the hard. I know we're all getting
fired up here. Score this touchdown Philadelphia before we got
to take our time out of it and we got
two and a half minutes Philly. Yeah, oh no, he
definitely jumped off sides and he was like, no, I
don't know if that shot Arny was him lined up
or after he had jumped, But I couldn't tell why
they were holding it there if they were that, it
(01:17:50):
looked like he was lined up off. This is what
everybody says, you're lined up over the ball. How does
this happen? And uh, Philadelphia? Jayalen Hurts again with the run.
He's gonna take it in for that touchdown, not touched,
untouched into the egg zone. Big come from that was
a big thing to do after that turn of Jalen Hurts.
One touchdown pass, two touchdown runs so far he's got
(01:18:13):
all three and extra point, will making extra point. We'll
make Eagles late first half. That might be your line
of the night. Are just you can just take the
rest of the show off. So after the thirty six
yard fumble recovery and returned for a touchdown by Nick Bolton,
Philadelphia answers with a twelve play seventy five yard drive
(01:18:38):
and it's fourteen philly outside. I mean, but two fourth
down conversions on basically two minute drill here for Patrick
Mahomes before the half. Yeah, so this this could be fun.
But yeah, it's a really good point, Steve. Two big
fourth down conversions and they converted him well once one
with the big mistake on the jump off side and
(01:18:58):
one with the long quarterback that's right where Jalen Hurts
put them down into red zone territory. So, Arnie, only
a minute left in the first in our hour here
before we get this final drive for the Chiefs in
the first half. But what a performance so far. Jalen
Hurts the leader in the clubhouse for the m v
P to Spiders mistake. Yeah, if I can sign a
contract extension at halftime, I think I would want to
negotiate it at half time right now, you know what
(01:19:20):
I mean exactly what I would want. The Kansas City
Chiefs offense has only seven minutes time of possession. It's
almost halftime. That's gotta be a record loan for them
for this year or anytime. Absolutely, yeah, yeah, absolutely, And
so a Chief's defense to score a touchdown is cashed
in the first half plus six hundred, so winner winner
(01:19:42):
at chicken dinner. Enjoy that, and we've got two hours
down in our Fox Sports Radio Super Bowl fifty seven program,
brought to in part by tire rack dot Com the
tire rack dot Com Studios. All right, when we come
back Kansas City looking at Tie, there's bad boy up
headed towards halftime, Philadelphia leads in the Super boeen. We're
talking about it on Fox Sports Radio. Casey has the football.
(01:20:05):
They trailed team with a minute fifty one to go
in the first half. Philadelphia has had their way offensively.
The only hiccup there's a pretty big one for five
yard forty four yard fumble returned for a touchdown by
Nick Bolton whenever Jalen Hurt simply dropped the football. Now,
oh alty? Did you see what they just actually called
(01:20:28):
a penalty against Kansas City? Shocking? Well, not just that.
As we welcome you back to the tire rack dot
Com Studios, tire rack dot Com will help you get
there an unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free road hazard protection,
and over ten thousand recommended installers. Tire rack dot Com
the way tire buying should be they finally called a
false start after every single complaint about hey, what's moving early?
(01:20:50):
That guy moved early for the better part of like
the last three weeks against the Eagles and the Chiefs.
A false start call that puts Kansas City in a
big hole here, second and fifteen. Yeah, they've dominated on
every part of the scoreboard, um, except with only a
seven point lead. Matter of fact, I wonder what the
score would be if they didn't hand uh seven points
just to Kansas City. So, uh, Philadelphia, if you're an
(01:21:11):
Eagles fan, you love what you've seen so far. Lead
and the Eagles offense looking great, and I'm not so
sure Kansas City is hit all cylinders quite yet. Well,
and and what's the one thing they're starting to do
for Philadelphia. They're starting to get some pressure on Patrick Mahomes. Now,
I mean only Mahomes can get out and still be
able to probably almost make a play, but he still
(01:21:33):
goes down. Hassan Raddick, no flag right here the sidelines.
But they're facing a big third down. Now, Arnie, Kansas
Philly could get the ball back here, get this ball
back and try to add some points on this before
they go to halftime. As I said, Kansas City will
start off with the ball in the in the second half.
So a matter of fact, they'll get to Mahomes. The'll
he'll try to scramble, but he'll only pick up a
(01:21:53):
couple of yards. And Mahomes is getting up a little
gingerly all a matter of fact, more than gingerly. He's
into this. Okay, I've learned a lot about this. I've
learned a lot about this. When you take with any
ankle injury like Mahomes has had, if it's been a week,
two weeks, three weeks, four weeks, when you're in that
first month to month and a half range with what
(01:22:14):
I think we all agree as a high ankle spain,
and he is really hobby who is a foot twisted,
the ankle twisted and let's see when he goes down there.
Oh yeah, landed right on it. Um. But but from
what I've been told, that first real hit that you
take on it is gonna feel like basically you got,
for lack of a more professional term, on the sideline
(01:22:36):
there too. I don't know, We'll see, we'll see, but
that's what I've always been told with those ankle injuries.
Oh no, is Matt Castle warming up yet? No, no, no, Um,
we'll see Philadelphia could add points. I'm looking at this.
I'm telling Jill's let's just go after three points. We'll
see how far we get to go. Um. Matter of fact,
they may not have to settle for that. They just
had a good return. They're about their own forty five
(01:22:57):
yard line. They could go for whatever they want right now. One, three,
two of your three time outs left. I mean, you've
had success running and throwing the football, so what what's
to stop Philadelphia from going down? All right, let's let's
watch this with my homes. They're working on the right ankle.
But again, they haven't cut off any tape. They haven't
started retaping anything. This can be the reaction we can true, true, true,
(01:23:21):
But we'll see kind of how it pans out. I
wanted it. I was digging during the break well. By
the way, um, someone on Twitter is that Chad Henny
is throwing on the sideline for the Chiefs. Literally everyone
that I have on my NFL feed is telling me
that Chad Henny is warning warming up right now on
the Feeteah. I just happened to look down when you
mentioned it. Mike Garret Folo said, Chad Henny is warming
up just seeing Anderson, so he's got to be ready
(01:23:45):
in case something's wrong here. That's true. I don't think
nobody tells you that. Did the Andy Reid say okay,
get up and start throwing, or does he do that
on his own? It's on their own, right and unless
unless it might be a time later in the game
where it's a blowout, they might go was like I
started getting ready. Usually as soon as you see the
starter dinged up a little bit, you're gonna grab the
next scrubby receiver. You can find it, all right, let's
(01:24:07):
go throw, or maybe even before even before they tell
you that, even before they I mean, you have to
you gotta be ready. It's like it's like preparing yourself
for what l A traffic might be. Whenever you're trying
to make a show on time, you gotta be ready.
Unlike your boy was tonight. I wanted to talk though,
what I was gonna bring up before you brought up
the Hinny warming up? How about that last drive for Philadelphia.
(01:24:30):
Jalen Hurts has the fumble that's return for the touchdown.
What did Philadelphia do? They put the ball right back
in his hands. Now, the first play was a quarterback drop.
You might say, yeah, really dummy, they're gonna put the
ball in the quarterback's hands. But you know what I mean,
right running the football, trusting in him. They ran the
ball straight. Quarterback runs with Jalen Hurts five times on
(01:24:50):
that drive. They five times on a twelve play drive.
They sometimes just I'm just talking about this drive. Alonder
five plays of the twelve play drive after he had fumbled,
and how to return for a touchdown. You that's awesome
to see. He gained thirty six yards scored the touchdown.
I mean, if you're if you're an Eagles fan, you
have to feel pretty good about the way that they've
(01:25:11):
bounced back after that fumble. And also not only have
you dominated, well, yes, you gotta love the way he
bounce back. You gotta love the way your offense looks. Um,
you also have to love the way that your offense
is taken a lot of time off the clock, how
you're dominating it plays. Time of possession though, is the
one thing that you're just absolutely loving. You're like, oh,
this play is right into our favor. Everything is right now.
(01:25:33):
When Philadelphia's favor all at this point. Here's a couple
of things. By the way, since we've been talking about this,
this ankle injury, and I kind of shared what a
couple of players had told me in the past about, Hey,
when you have that high ankle sprain, when you get
hit on it, that really good shot on it, it
can feel like you just broke your legs. So he's
trying to walk it off right now. He's got a tablet.
The athletic trainers aren't even around him. But here's a
(01:25:53):
couple of other things. Real quick, aren't he uh? Sam
Farmer said, I talked to White Freening, who played with
a high ankle sprain against New Orleans and a super
He said it was all good in the first half,
then got a little tweaked and blew up. The joint
was useless in the second half. Ian Rappaport said that
Chief's trainer Julie Freimer, as Philly on their first drive
gets a nice game, they'll be set up in second
(01:26:14):
and short in Chief's territory. Julie Farmer said, high ankle
sprains can take a while to come back, so his
tissue is not completely healed, but he's better than he was.
For sure. So an aggregation of this, aggravation of this
was really their biggest fear. So we'll see if Mahomes
is able to come back and what a throw by
(01:26:36):
jan did he hold on to it? Will they better
hurry up and get that thing snapped because, uh, well
the eye of this guy. If they missed this one,
then everyone I don't know if that is a catching.
The ball moved after one leg was down. They made
challenges there, Well, they can't challenge. They can't challenge in
the in the in the two minutes, it's got to
be upstairs. It's coming from upstairs, then it's coming from
(01:26:58):
a past interference. Um, they didn't call they that would
get away. He was way in. What do you think
to sag you think it's a catch? No, I agree
with Arnie. By the time he actually secured it, his
second step was out, I think, and the balls kind
of moves whenever he slides down to so, by the way,
see they thought that like that last remember was the
(01:27:19):
previous game with the long pass and nobody saw the
correct replay until after the break. And he counted if
they're going to count that his possession when he has
the ball against his helmet. He does get two feet
in bound, but then it moves. Gosh. I don't know.
They may overturn this one. We'll see they I think
they probably will love to wait and see. Yeah, they're
gonna piece together all the shots here. We've got a
(01:27:41):
little break here with one minute left in the first
half on this one. By the way, Jalen Hurts, if
you total up his numbers so far, the only other
guy to have a Super Bowl with three touchdowns and
at least fifty yards rushing and a hundred yards passing
is Joe Montana. We're not even halfway through this Super
Bowl and jay Len Hurts has all of those. He's
the first guy to have two rushing touchdowns in the
(01:28:02):
first half of the Super Bowl. So since McMahon, I
believe so, we're going back. Uh they were. By the way,
the missed opportunity for those who weren't with us earlier
late first quarter, Kansas City did not try and convert
a fourth and three that kicked instead, and then missed
the forty two yard field goal attempted hit the upright.
Harrison Bucker has missed a lot of kicks from forty
(01:28:24):
yards and beyond this year. And remember it was on
this field in Arizona, where Kansas City played opening Day
and where he got injured. He was out for the
next month plus, and then by the time he came back,
he missed his only miss inside of forty But he's
missed I believe it's six or seven kicks from forty
yards and beyond. This is a guy who hit a
sixty two yard or this season. So I can't say
(01:28:46):
that I predicted anything like this, but we have seen
a shocking amount of um, let's just say what we
don't expect from Casey special teams throughout the season. Yeah,
that's uh, that's one heck of a near catch if
it's look at this for a long time, but I
don't know. Yeah, I go back and forth. It's a
massive moment in this game. Guys. This is the difference
(01:29:08):
between you know, Philadelphia maybe having a fight for a
field goal and oh, they're gonna say it's a catch.
There's also the difference between stand and confirmed towards calling
the field will stand. Dan, You see what the ball
did hit the white but the catch was already made
by then because he got the two feet and bound.
So um gosh, I'm not so sure that. Basically, you
(01:29:28):
just don't have enough evidence to over I saw I
saw people on Twitter that are at the game saying
that it looked like the offense was moving back to
the original line of scrimmage. But oh well, no, it's
taken too long for me to think that made a decision.
Yet they're still they're still talking upstairs. It looks like Siriani,
by the way, is he was trying to do something
goofy and Jalen Hurts just grabbed his arm. I let's
(01:29:50):
see what he did. He was trying to point out
there and he almost hit Jalen Hurts and they were
laughing about it. As much as Jalen Hurts might laugh
in this situation. This is a real veteran crew that's
looking at this. Not only Carl Schefferis who have mentioned
this is his third recent Super Bowl he's working. But
the replay official comes from the Bill Vinovich crew and
has plenty of postseason experience, and they're on the on
(01:30:11):
the horn with New York. Yeah, incomplete is what they're
gonna call it here. They reversed then, Yeah, so they
reversed the call. So no thirty five yard game, YEP.
They'll go back to the original line of scrimmage, which
was like midfield and as you as you said, well,
I think we all were kind of laying it out.
But that's a that's a major difference in what you
(01:30:33):
can do, at least for now. Right it doesn't look
like Philadelphia is just gonna try to get it now
twenty more yards and try a field goal, aren't. They're
going essentially third and one. Now, first thing you gotta
do is pick up the first down. But yet that yeah,
they'll use both players to go and pick up the
first down, and um gosh, I think that people could
about that might have been considered a catch if he
they counted that against his head as helmet. But whatever,
(01:30:56):
they say, no, no dice. So we'll see what they
come up on the third one. Well, to see Mike
Pereira had to say, I'm seeing a lot of people
saying my Pereira is very spicy right now, So I'm
curious what'll Mike had to say about it. But it's,
as already so eloquently pointed out, it's third down in
short Philadelphia all first half they've been converting on third
(01:31:17):
and fourth. Downd you this is not a problem. But
there's people reporting that the Philadelphia Eagle players were saying
telling their teammates to come on down, it's going to
be on Kansas City and or it's gonna be a catcher.
We're gonna have the ball down. They get behind the quarterback,
push him forward, first down, Eagles. You know, the Kansas
City Chiefs have not converted a single first down. They
(01:31:41):
love running that that. It looks like a rugby scrub,
just slamming perfect with masses of bodies. The Eagles really
need to win this game because that's gonna get taken out.
So that's gonna be. It's gonna be that's gonna be
a safety concern. Yeah, alright, so an incomplete pass, Philly
uses a lot of clock there After getting the first down,
Chris Jones actually had blown the play up in the backfield.
(01:32:04):
He went over the top and actually grabbed Jalen Hurts
short of the first down, and the quarterbacks still got
pushed forward. Yeah, you still got pushed forward. Who's up running?
You see this all the time in rugby. It's amazing.
It's gonna be. You're right. Enjoy this while you can,
because it's gonna be changed. But they did use a
lot of clock there. Eight seconds left. I'm gonna just
(01:32:25):
think about getting the field goal go up at half
time with a tenport leading in Kansas City is going
to have the ball to start the half and risk
not in field goal range, They're gonna have to burn
some of their time outs here. What boy, that ball
didn't look like it was snapped in time, but short
pass whole time out here, two seconds left. I just
want to let it be said that you always pick
on any of the read for bad clock management. Um,
(01:32:47):
bad clock management on that part, Chris, as you mentioned
you shouldn't let the ball get down that low. Yeah,
I mean yeah, because the review was with what about
fifty five seconds? Yeah, unbelievable. Yeah, it was just way
too much. So it took for about three plays the
other thirty seconds, so Kansas City, the the incomplete pass
was at um thirty five seconds. No, no, the seconds
(01:33:11):
five seconds. I'm sorry for the first short thirty five
and then on the past. Yeah, they just blew way
too much time. They blew way too much time years.
The first still not in Philadelphia field goal range because
this would be about a fifty nine yard attempt and
they had one time out left. Did you see that
(01:33:33):
time of possession twenty one minutes to eight. That's incredible,
absolutely incredible. A third and four for Philly coming up,
needing to get into field goal range. And again there's
that little slant works to a J. Brown, a perfection
get out of bounds a J. Brown. He's in the
red zone. They don't have to burn a time out
twenty two yard game. Oh that's the seger as the
(01:33:55):
stats spotters guy for the Chargers, knowing that right off
the back, what go? Yeah, that was great. That was
a big time move and a big time cut. Watch
this from here. It would be about a thirty seven
yard Philly attempts. So this made field goal before halftime
would take a seven point lead to ten point lead
(01:34:17):
at halftime. But youuring the nineteen yard you got seconds
time out, Let's go for it. You know. I I'll
tell you what. I have become such a big fan
of Nick Sirianni that you know, if he's got a chance,
he's gonna try to take a shot at the end zone.
And that's what Philly is. Uh, well, they're not gonna
get anywhere backled in bounds last time out? Now they're
gonna have to bring the time out. Yeah. McDuffie comes up,
the rookie out of Washington. Oh no, I think they're
(01:34:40):
just yet. They waited till four seconds left in the
first half and now their final time out and bringing
the kicker. They couldn't chance it up by the time
the play was done. Um, there was always gonna be
nine ten seconds left with no time out, so they
let the clock go down and get one final player.
I agree with that one. I don't think there's any
You guys seem surprised on that. I know. I what,
maybe they might burn it quick and throw one more
(01:35:03):
towards the end zone or short, but it seems have
been far more aggressive near the end of a half year.
It would have made sense. Yeah, but so here's there
there kicker one stinnery and now I'm kidding coming in
thirty five yard or let's unblem Yeah, he's he's pretty money.
And as soon as this field goal, if it goes through,
(01:35:23):
does we'll take a time out and come back and
recap the first half. This has been all Eagles offense
with one major mistake, and that's the only thing that's
helped out Kansas City in this game. The fumble, the
field goal is up and it is perfect and that
will do it. Thirty five yard field goal is good.
We had to halftime watching Mahomes gingerly jog off the field.
(01:35:45):
Remember since the ankle injury in this game, we haven't
seen him back on offense. We're gonna recap the first
half next with Arnie and Plank on Fox Sports Radio.
Sarnian Plank on Fox Sports Radio. You're seeing this right now, Arnie.
It look it's like Jalen Hurts changed cleats between quarters. Huh.
(01:36:06):
I wonder why you did that with no attraction because
they talked about the field earlier too. Some people were
talking about the field not being in the best shape it.
It's never a great field anyway. Arizona is often slipper.
Remember Chris, when Auburn had its national title game against
Oregon and they were saying, hey, this is great and
we're gonna have grass field and an indoor game, and
left and right from the start of the game, people
were slipping. And here early in the game people were
(01:36:28):
coming and yes, he changed cleats. Is um. I don't
know if I'm ready for Rihanna. By the way, I
don't know if I'm fired up about that. They're still
doing the Fox halftime quite to that. Yeah, we we
We've got a good thirty minutes before we've It's not
gonna be like a thirty minute concert or something like that.
Is that what that is? Well, it is supposed to.
Instead of the under fifteen minute halftime that you get
regular season, it is about a thirty five minutes. So
(01:36:51):
for Patrick Mahomes to recover from re injuring the ankle,
which happened late first half, he's got some time. It's
not quite like a weekend between games like he needed
after the an FC crown, but he's got something. By
the way, I got some odds for you. Jalen Hurts
now minus three fifty to win the Super Bowl MVP. Okay,
and uh, I believe the second half line was Philadelphia
minus a half if that's possible. Okay, Okay, So you're
(01:37:13):
getting Kansas City plus nine for the game. I guess
if you know, it's kind of wild because I'm sitting
here and they're they're going back over all the highlights,
and you know, we've kind of joked about adjustments, right,
everyone's oh, what was the adjustment really here was the adjustment.
Philadelphia just didn't let the Chief's offense back on the field.
(01:37:34):
I mean literally the sacred They've been playing keep away
with them right now. It's forty four plays to twenty.
And if an NFL team gets eighty eight plays in
a game, that's a guard gant. You went him out.
There are plenty of NFL games with forty eight plays
by an offense. They have forty four in the first half,
so it's double the plays, it's double the yardage. We
mentioned all the third down conversions, plus Philly had a
(01:37:56):
fourth down conversion on that Kansas City penalty that's set
up a touchdown on The Chiefs have not converted a
single third down over three and casey with only six
first downs. So when a team's up thanks to that
field goal at the end of the first half, when
a team is up double digits at the halftime of
the Super Bowl, do they usually win? The answer is
(01:38:16):
literally almost always, because the only such comeback in this
situation was when the Falcons blew it and lost in
over And when it's happened, let me ask you this, guys,
does this take away the running game from Kansas City
um or do you not want to abandon that just yet?
I know you're a passing team, but you can't abandon
it yet. But I go back to what I said
in the first half, grave concerns early for the k
(01:38:39):
C running game because they had the one long run
from Pacheco and aside from that, it's six carries and
what fourteen yards for the k C. Just go ahead
and continue to pass, especially if you're gonna be down
by you can use in the passing game. We have
seen that in the postseason where they weren't able to
run well. In the a f C Championship, Kansas City
as a team was twenty carries forty two yards. But
(01:39:01):
you can get it to Pacheco outside. He's He's a
great combination of angry runner and passed to him. I
think the problem on the passing too, is like after
those shots that Mahomes has taken and he's been visibly
in pain on the sideline, You've got a great picture
of him just kind of howling to the sky in
pain and just clear the Eagles are just gonna keep
(01:39:21):
attacking him at the line like you, yeah, you want
the you have to put it through Mahomes hand. But
if he's bangs up like this, Mahomes, Mahomes is gonna
be on the finest elephant tranquilizers. So he is going
I say this, I say this with my tongue in
my cheek and trying not to get in trouble. He
is going to be so high that Norad might send
(01:39:43):
an up to shoot him down. Meanwhile, on the Hurts
front regarding injury, did you notice on his long run
in the first half that he kind of hit the
back of his helmet on the tackle and seemed to
motion over to someone, can you help me up? He
has stayed in the game. He has three touchdowns in
the game, but it was noticeable at the top, and
it got for the long Super Bowl halftime. I guess
(01:40:04):
they're taking bets on what does Kansas City going to
do for the second half to start the game? Plus
one eight for an offensive touchdown, plus two eighty five
for a field goal attempt, plus one sixty on a punt.
They remember that we talked about it right at the
coin toss. The team that has won the coin toss
lost the Super Bowl the last eight straight years. Tonight,
(01:40:25):
Kansas City not only one the toss, they deferred and
immediately went down seven nothing because Philadelphia went straight down
the field early. Now we're going to run through all
the stats, but just a moment, I am tripping out
watching this halftime show. She's wearing Kansas City red to
start to have comer Homer. Secondly, they're on these elevated
platforms that I don't I don't know how how they
(01:40:47):
got them up there. Number one, same things that Nora
has been shooting. I think I see my homes just
floating up past one of those right now. They do
ever roof and airs they I'll never forget. One of
the first Super Bowls that aren't and I did together
was the was was one in Houston where Lady Gaga
started her halftime performance by jumping, and I was like, hush,
(01:41:10):
she just jumped. That brings me down into the stadium.
That brings to mind Chris and a great article on
the Kansas City Chief's mascot in the l A Times
this week. The guy has had the gig for decades,
the guy who said at Casey Wolf usually standing under
the goal post for every kick and bonking his forehead
against it if it's missed or something. Well, he probably
would have been doing that tonight exactly he was planning
(01:41:34):
to do. It's almost a decade ago. He was practicing
a day before a home game at Arrowhead. The plan
was he was going to start from in the lights
at the top of the stadium over the upper level
and in a bungee cord, come down and then hit
like a zip line and go all the way down
to the field and that was gonna be his big entrance.
There was a malfunction on the bungee cord pot and
(01:41:56):
believe it or not, he fell sev from the stadium
lights down to the seating area the day before a
game and Casey broke two of the seats with his
was in the hospital six days, broke ribs, massive injuries
on his part, six months of disability, and return the
next season to be the mascot and still is all
(01:42:17):
these years over. Business is not XFL football. Gosh, let's go.
I Budet jumped off the top of America West Arena
before an arena football game and I just passed out.
I just found like that one, who's that NBA mascot?
They pulled down as the gorilla would gorilla, Yeah, yeah,
the gorilla for phoenix would pop out of the wolf.
(01:42:37):
I think for it was like a coyote too. I
think it was like the Spurs mascot. I think the
Jazz would do the stupid motorcycles that would go in
there and you couldn't hear yourself think whenever you were
in Salt Lake City. Anyway, we're at halftime with the
Super Bowl, ur We're gonna run through all the stats
how we got to this point. Philadelphia leads to the
half to score the half before we get t knee
(01:43:00):
deep and watching Rihanna here, let's get updated on everything
going on, and not just the Super Bowl, but the
world of sports. Was Steve to Segre. We mentioned how
few first downs Kansas City has only six in the
first half, still the record for few as first downs
in a Super Bowl first half, or at least you know,
in the last five years. Remember the Rams just a
few years ago barely scored at all against the Patriots.
(01:43:21):
The Rams had two first downs in the first half
of that game. So that little mark is safe. It's
Eagle over Kansas City at halftime. Patrick Mahomes only eighty
nine yards passing in the first half, one touchdown. To repeat,
It's not like Kansas City hasn't gained yardage when they've
had the ball, they just haven't been on the field much.
(01:43:41):
It's in nearly twenty two minutes to eight time of
possession advantage for Philadelphia, and more than double the plays,
more than double the yardage, more than double the first
downs Philadelphia. If it wasn't for that Jalen Hurts fumble
they got run back for a score, Philadelphia would be
dominating this first half on the scoreboard instead of seven.
Though it's fourteen at the break, and Jalen Hurts not
(01:44:04):
only as a touchdown pass he's seventeen of twenty two
hundred eighty three yards in the first half, but on
the ground eleven carries sixty three yards and two touchdowns
fourteen at the break. The Colts reportedly planned to hire
Eagles offensive coordinator Shane Steiken as their new head coach.
Two NBA games today, Boston won again, beating Memphis one

In college basketball, at Northwestern, the home team Wildcats upset

(01:44:47):
Mexico State men's basketball has now canceled the rest of
its season after a police report on harassment and hazing. There.
Among the NHL winners, Vegas and Seattle. Vegas, by the way,
going to be hosting the Super Bowl in a year,
and then it's off to New Orleans. Scottie Scheffler won
the Phoenix Open. He regains the number one ranking. He
won by two strokes. He earned three point six million dollars.
(01:45:12):
How things started in the Super Bowl tonight in Arizona.
The Eagles got the ball first and became the first
team to score an opening drive TD now in three
straight playoff games since at least, yes, the Chief's answered,
but it's been all legal since at the break back
to you, all right, think Steves, I didn't realize this
(01:45:32):
is Rihanna's first public performance in seven years. I knew that.
I knew that. I knew you did. I didn't know that.
I don't know why I knew that, but I didn't know.
That's right, So Arnie's gonna run this time exactly. Hey,
he was kind enough to not fire me whenever I
was running late today. So I I we're not gonna
by the way, the Saga Night will not be here
next year. We're gonna go see the Topphins played the
(01:45:53):
Cowboys in Super Bowl fifty eight out in Vegas. Next year.
I like it, Like Wow, I'll be back out here probably,
So this time I'll just plan better for getting to
the studio. All right, here's how we got to where
we are, just to kind of recap for those of
you that maybe tuning in as you head home. Are
you you just can't do the halftime show. Philadelphia goes
(01:46:14):
eleven plays seventy five yards to take a seven zip lead.
They had a big third down conversion on third and five.
They picked up twelve yards on a little uh in
past Davante Smith, and then they never looked back. The
touchdown was a mile Sanders run up the middle for
a yard's extra point was good. Seven zip Philly at
(01:46:34):
that point and in Kansas City arnty. Really the most
sustained drive they've had were the first two, and guess
what after the first two, they only had two more
because of time of possession. First drive for Kansas City
six place, seventy five yards, never went to third down.
Longest down to distance outside of first and ten was
second and seven, and it was all Um who scored
(01:46:54):
the first touch on Pacheco. Yeah, um, no, no, no,
I'm sorry, I'm sorry. Kelsey, my bad, I'm I'm looking
at the wrong part of the play by play Travis
Kelsey on the eight teen yard touchdown pass uh makes
it seven all. So, then the Eagles punt after a
penalty on first down that really pushed them back. The
Chiefs go seven plays, forty two yards, miss a field goal.
We're still tied at seven when really Philadelphia breaks through
(01:47:17):
and they get the big touchdown pass a j Brown
for forty five yards. Kansas City then goes three and
out Arnie and then we think the Philadelphia is landing
a knockout blow and Jalen Hurts drops the football. It's
returned by Nick Bolton for a touchdown to tie the
game at fourteen. Philly bounces back in a big way
at twelve place, seventy five yard drive and the touchdown
(01:47:38):
run by Jalen Hurts from four yards out. After the fumble,
they put the ball in the hands of Hurts five
times in a twelve play drive, including the very first
run that picked up fourteen yards. The Chiefs have to
go uh and punt before the end of the first half.
They got a first down on the drive, but on
fourth and twelve after uh what, they had a penalty
on the drive fall start on the drive that pushed
(01:47:58):
him back. Um My Homes threw it away and the
next thing you know, they're punning. That was a bad
mistake by Andy Reid there. They could have run some clock. Also,
were they thinking about that they were going to pick
up the first anyway? There great Eagles take over on
their own forty three yard line. Looked like they might
be in a first in goal situation, but a big
pass DeVante Smith was ruled incomplete. Kansas City not able
(01:48:20):
to slow him down, not able to stop him, but
uh they did do a good job in holding late.
Philadelphia called their final time out with four seconds left.
Jake Elliott Boudenholm a thirty five yard field goal. That's
the scoring. That's how we got to where we are.
Eagles Chiefs fourteen. What's your biggest surprise of the first half?
What shocks you the most so far? The first half
of this game. Well, I want to go around the
(01:48:41):
horn with everyone on this one, so I'll go ahead
and start. Since you asked, how effective Jalen Hurts has
truly been running the football? Um, and maybe I'll add
to that throwing the football. I thought Kansas City and
Steve Spagnola would have a game plan that might slow
him down. But he's throwing for a hundred and eighty
three yards. He's rushed for sixty three yards three combined
for for touchdowns in the first half. I'm surprised by
(01:49:03):
how effective Jalen Hurts has been. I guess the Kansas
City defense that lived in the Bengals back field two
weeks ago. Bo, what's your biggest surprise from the first half? Yeah,
I think I think Jalen Hurts honestly, like he's kind
of become a superstar. I think, right in front of
all of our eyes doing this in the biggest game. Uh.
And I would be totally comfortable now giving him that
fifty million dollar contract he's gonna gonna get in the
(01:49:25):
off season. Here. What do you think what surprised you
the most from the first half or just from Jalen
Hurts are just in general, well, no, I think from
Hurts is the same thing. Like I, I already thought
he played phenomenal this year. I under his upward trajectory
is there and it's unquestionable. I just I didn't understand
how other people weren't seeing it. I and like as
(01:49:48):
the one said, I feel like he's absolutely gonna get
paid this offseason, even if the Eagles completely collapse here
in the second half like they it's been too long
since the Eagles have had a steady quarterback. They want
a Super Bowl without one, but that's not a life
you really want to live. And if they have their
quarterback with Jalen Hursts that can hang tough with you know,
(01:50:09):
Patrick Mahomes or a or a or a Justin Herbert,
then you you do everything in your power to keep
him around. And that's that. That is the downside of
that it took this long for him to develop is
you already have to pay him. But there's no other option.
It's a game you have to play. You have to
pay him. The biggest surprise for you in the first
half the fact that while the Eagles defense has zero
(01:50:30):
sex in the first half, the Chief's offense has not
been in the least bit a factor. After the first
I was gonna say the same thing I agree with
and could or should be worse except for the most
shocking play of the first half where Jalen Hurts. I
guess he tried to juggle the ball and put it
from one hand to the other and fumbled as he
was being pressured by linebacker Nick Bolton, and it was
(01:50:52):
Bolton who returned it officially thirty six yards the other
way for the score. If you're a Chiefs fan, the
one good thing you can hug at this halftime is
they're not only trailing but not looking good is the
fact that in playoffs with Patrick Mahomes, even when they're
down double digits, they have a winning record. No other
quarterback other than Tom Brady has overcome more double digit
(01:51:15):
deficits in the postseason, and Mahomes only been their starter
for five years. So they can come back. It's just
as we mentioned in Super Bowl history, it literally almost
never happens downten at the half and still win the game.
This injury thing is is hanging over its heads, hanging
over the entire game's head, like, yeah, we've seen Mahomes
come back from before, but if he's working on one leg.
(01:51:36):
He's got to extend plays. He's got to be himself.
I was just saying last night, like even two years ago,
when they played the Buccaneers and it was what nine
or whatever, you were just sitting there waiting. You're like, Okay,
so Mahomes is gonna do something right here. They're gonna
score a touchdown and they're gonna be right back in
this game until the game was over and it's like,
oh wait, he's never That's our lasting memory of Mahomes
(01:51:57):
when he got that first Super Bowl was that entire
playoff a f C playoffs. He was like down two
scores the Titans or to the uh or to the
Texans or someone anyone these like teams with really stout defenses,
and it's like, no, I'm gonna come back three scores.
I don't care, I'm coming back. And well even in
the even Super Bowl they I think they were down
(01:52:19):
like by fourteen points to just the super discouse of
the last five years. If the if the Chiefs can
just keep this close tonight. Remember it was three years
ago when Kansas City got three touchdowns in the last
six and a half minutes and beat San Francisco Philadelphia
Super Bowl win five years ago to upset New England.
It was a touchdown at a field goal in the
(01:52:39):
last two and a half minutes last year in the
Ram Stadium. The Rams were losing in the last two
minutes and they had botched an extra point earlier in
the game. Remember, they had to have the touchdown at
the end of field goal would do no good, and
Beckham had been injured and they still got the TV
to win. Keep it close. It's the Super Bowl. You're
still the Chiefs, You're still Mahomes. You still have a chance. Uh, Arnie,
(01:53:00):
what's your biggest surprise? I went to Sega on this one.
I'm after the first series. Um, they've sold down in
Kansas City and Mahomes. Now, whether they did a good
job defensively making him punch twice or the fact that
they went ahead and held the ball and ran up
a lot of clock, that's all part of it. So
I thought after that first drive that Mahomes was gonna
put up twenty one points or more in the first half,
(01:53:21):
and they were on their way to thirty five forty points.
That doesn't look like the case right now, though the
game is going to go over and already on the ground,
Jalen Hurts on eleven carries has sixty three yards rushing,
which is monstrous for a quarterback in the first half,
and in a Super Bowl. He's already third behind Steve
McNair Colin Kaepernick for quarterbacks rushing yards for an entire game.
(01:53:41):
That's how awesome this first half has been from him.
And I think it bears repeating a note Arnie brought
up earlier. Earlier, the team that's leading at halftime in
the Super Bowl and digits by double digits are We've
leading my double digits at halftime twenty six and one.
Al Right, when we come back the second half, Rihanna
has just concluded her performance, I think, and when we
(01:54:03):
come back, can Kansas City bounce back? They trailed the
Eagles fourteen and Super Bowl fifty seven. We're talking about
it all game long on Fox Sports Radio, Billy Ocean
and honor Everyhanna Carribean, Sarnie and Plank sitting in during
the Super Bowl with your Super Bowl fifty seven. It
(01:54:24):
is kind of weird to be on the air of
this early. You always want to get early, like, hey,
they should move us up a shift there no offense
to uh, you know, to Willard androm But yeah, let's
let's I'm on the East coast there, I'd like to
get done a little bit earlier. Yeah, this is Arnie's
heaven right here. He's gonna be so happy. We might
talk on the phone for an hour after the show.
Outside of usually that final hour already's fallen asleep as
(01:54:47):
soon as it's over. It's like two o'clock in the
morning here and he's out. But again, we're watching the
Super Bowl. Halftime is over in the second half is
underwa like a thirty minute a halftime right roughly around that.
It's not bad, not bad um and and it's getting
rave reviews on Twitter and social media. But she is, uh,
(01:55:11):
she's done, she's finished. Here come the chiefs, Arnie. What
do they need to do outside of okay, obvious the
answer right, they got a score, But do you try
to establish their mother? Now? Do you see what you've got?
And Patrick Mahomes early, you know Pete Prisco, by the way,
I just want to report this match on. Mahomes was
Olympic a little bit when he was warming up, So
we'll certainly keep an eye on that. They're gonna try
(01:55:31):
to keep the run going and they'll get a good
game with a check on on the first play, And
like I said, do you have to abandon the run?
I guess they're saying not yet, we're gonna continue. I don't.
I don't think they can if I'm Here's the scary
thing though, too, is you've seen Mahomes still be able
to make plays on one leg. So somebody all just
just pile in there and don't let him on the football. Well,
(01:55:51):
then I'll hitch it deep and all he can make
one guy miss and you'll forget to cover to Kelsey.
But I'm I'm not one of those that says you
have to completely just totally kick it to a running
attack here, But it wouldn't be bad to get it going.
Aren't he just to keep your defense off the field
because that time of possession is still wild. From the
first half. By the way, Travis Kelsey that to bring
him up only three receptions for sixty yards. It seemed
(01:56:15):
like everyone was a big one, but I have that
was probably one of his all time lows in the
first half. We'll see what he does in the second half.
And I know your favorite Chris Win. Probability right now
for Philadelphia seventies six point seven percent for the Eagles
to win this game. Uh, Paul has hit us up
on Twitter. My biggest surprise is that I hated the
halftime show even more than I thought I would. Wow,
(01:56:36):
it's getting good reviews on on It's getting good reviews
on Twitter. That's going to play the half? Yeah, I
don't think it's ever. I don't think it's ever gonna happen.
And apparently Team Fluff beat Team Rough in the three
puppy both minus two. Big run for Pochecko on third
and short is Kansas City. I'm sorry, jere McKinnon on
(01:56:57):
the run there is Kansas City pushes it towards mid field.
How about that play designed too? They had the uh
kind of that little off stack I and they gave
it to him inside and there was nobody there on
the cross from mckinnons. So beautifully designed play from Andy
Reid in Philadelphia on their heels just a bit as
(01:57:18):
Kansas City approaches midfield. Now now you can maybe start
taking some shots throwing the football in case in casey
will and Mahomes. Oh just got rid of that. He
what a great catch by Kelsey. That was I didn't
even think he had it at first. He went down,
caught it and kept his balance a little bit in
him and oh it's a catch. It's a beautiful catch.
(01:57:42):
Never never even skipped off the turf and watching mahomes grimace,
grimace in pain. He got hit in the head too.
They didn't call again. They called, but he was outside
the pocket, so there was gonna be no following. He
got he got racked across the face. So here comes
Kansas City looking like they did in the first quarter.
Philly leads fourteen, a situation where Kansas City desperately needs
(01:58:05):
points here and another slip. We've seen another player slip
this turf. It's sky more slipped as he was. I
don't know what. Probably had another good five to six
yards that were that were laid out in front of him,
but he slipped and he and he went down before
he had an opportunity to truly make something happen. They're
running it down Philadelphia's throat right now. I'm surprised there.
You know, they went to the run game this much.
(01:58:25):
I thought they'd go more to the passing game. Yeah,
let's let's real quick keep tabs on this second down
in six play, Kansas City hasn't taken many shots down
the field. Here's one to a wide open guests. Who oh,
that's not Kelsey, that's the other wide Titan Watson. So
another catch by Christian Watson. And they're in really good
shape right now. Look out. This is there's what they needed.
They couldn't go away with no points and give it
(01:58:48):
back to Philadelphia down by ten. So and by the way,
I don't think there'll be any short field goals on
fourth and well, I shouldn't say that they do. You
have to make it a one possession game. Well, and
you're you're just watching. This is Kansas City's all offense
when it's at its best, right you You rarely see
them truly get the running game going. But they've They've
in a lot of ways maybe been forced to though.
I'm watching everything Mahomes does, Arnie, and he looks pretty
(01:59:10):
smooth and everything that he's able to do. Five out
of the seven plays, I believe we're runs. I'm I'm,
I'm he's just waiting to go ahead and do play
action and go deep. But uh, they're moving the ball
second and three now, So they're in good position, all right.
So Kansas City is driving to try to cut this
to a one possession game. It's fourteen. Casey has the football.
(01:59:32):
It's a seven play, fifty eight yard drive. As they're
about to snap it inside the red zone, seventy three
yards rushing for the Chiefs too. We'll see if they
can get close next on Fox Sports Radio. Is it Arnie?
Is it a fumble? Or they can't? I can't you
see that? That's the problem. They're gonna rule it. Let
it play out. Now you have to come up with
in this beautiful evidence that it was that it was,
(01:59:54):
you know, no catch, So I don't think it's gonna
be a catch. And they'll have it second now. But
there's a big play right now, so as we will.

way tire buying should be the very first play after
(02:00:15):
the touchback, Jalen Hurts throws it out in the flat
and after the touch after the touchdown, after the Kansas
City Yeah, that's what I said. Those are out in
the flat and the receiver gets hit just as he's
catching the ball. Nick Bolton picks it up and takes
it to the house for a touchdown, which would be
the second defensive touchdown. They're reviewing it. Nick Bolton has
(02:00:38):
just pulled his defense back out onto the field. So yeah,
the second the second um never really came down after
the catch, so they're gonna rule no catch. It's scored
to be second down, and that's the that's the right
call to make, right there. Boy, could you again, could
you imagine that moment though whole smokes We we basically
we're doing a moratorium on the Chiefs at half time
(02:01:00):
with the Mahomes injury, and then to have that nearly happened,
and it did happen, right but didn't to have it
ruled against you all. The Eagles kind of gave up
on the play on the return because they were surprised
that it wasn't ruled an incompletion right away, right right,
And then you see that's the problem though, they said,
let it play out, and I want to stop the play,
and then you have to come up with in disputeaful
(02:01:21):
evidence this. They were back in New York and they're like, no, no,
the second leg never really came down. They both weren't
that high, but the first one came down. The second
leg was just coming down as he got hit. He
never made a football move. So it was the right
call at that time. Okay, so here's a couple notes.
We're watching a lot of slippage out on the field
right now. They tried to replace the divids from the
concert from the Rihanna concerts at halftime. They had a
(02:01:44):
whole bunch of people out there replacing divids. We just
saw Antonio Brown slip and go now e J Brown?
When we saw Antonio Brown, have we not but a
J Brown slip? Uh? Joe pomp Pompiliano reports the NFL

he got guys slipping all over the place. And what
a CATCHA can you imagine if they had to punt
that ball back? What a big play. Dallas got, big
time throw and he just brings it in between him
(02:02:27):
and the defender. It was as perfectly thrown ball just
out of the outstretched hands of Read justin Read nearly
got a piece of it. And Kansas City, Oh, it's
just gotta be kicking themselves. Philadelphia extends their drive on
first and ten near midfield. Yeah no, not only that also,
but again keeping his composure, it's third down. I don't
(02:02:49):
know what having in front of me? What is Philadelphia
on third downs? Um, they've got a pretty good number
there that that's a that's a big part of why
they're winning this game. The Philadelphia Eagles on third down
tonight or seven of eleven the Also, they're also one
for one on fourth down. Yeah, that's that's gonna win
you a lot of games doing that. Yeah, absolutely all right.
The second down in two, Jalen just throws it away.
(02:03:11):
You know what, when you're in third and second in
shorts and your Philadelphia, you feel like you can take
more chances. That's where we've seen them make some big plays. Right,
they get in second and short, and they're like, hey,
let's take a shot. But in this instance, now third
down into if I Kanta City, I'm gonna be aware
they're gonna run the ball is they're gonna go for
it on fourth down and the push thing, So I'm
gonna play up for the run. Make sure they don't
get within two yards where they couldn't do the push play.
(02:03:34):
They could burn you though. We'll see what happens there. Well,
twenty three minutes and forty seconds time of possession for Philadelphia,
just thirteen thirty six for k C. But the Eagles
lead to one, facing a third down to two with
seven and a half, they're gonna get the first down
on a run by gain. Well, you gotta play the
run there. That way, you stop him and force him
into a fourth down situation where they can't do the
(02:03:55):
push play. I might need a nerd out and have
someone tell me if if Philadelphia is doing anything different
to Chris Jones, because outside of him leaping over the pile,
I don't feel like we've heard his name to ter
on that, I've not heard him much at all. But again,
you know, um, he just doesn't seem like he's doing
a whole heck of a lot. Two teams that are
absolutely rolling offensively. Six point eight yards per play for
(02:04:20):
the Chiefs, six point two yards per play for the
Philadelphia Eagles, who have it first down in ten they're
in Chief's territory. It looked like a lot of movement
on that snap, and now Hurts is gonna take off
by the way sidebar. I see people who are like, oh, well,
they're not moving. It's not a false start, but yet
AN'TI I feel like every single one of these plays
(02:04:41):
involving a tackle, it looks like he's getting that quick start.
Looks like he's moving before the snap, I know. And
sometimes you see that and they're just like, no, no,
he's just getting a good jump on. I'm like, okay,
because certainly looks like there's a procedure call on that. Also,
I agree with you second to nine from Philadelphia right now. So, um,
if I'm Jalen Hurts, if I'm calling, if I'm calling
the offense, um, I'm gonna use his feet in this play.
(02:05:03):
Well and listen, he wasn't called for a design run
on the first down play. That's just what happened. Look
how much they're milk in that play clock, aren't they're
not snapping it until two or one? Yeah, they're they're
taking They're cognizant that they're gonna win this game with
time and possession. That's what's going on. Nearly hit a
big pass play down the middle, just off the hands
of Watkins. I mean literally, Arnie, as perfectly thrown off
(02:05:26):
a ball as you can have in that situation for
Jalen Hurts, and it's just off the fingertips. If you
might have got their sco surely, but that's a catch
you've gotta make right, You have to. You have to
a little bit off to be that guy. But yeah,
I mean you could have pulled that one. And that's okay. Now,
big thing, big play here for Kansas City. By the way,
(02:05:47):
you're inside Kansas City territory. Um, are you in four
four down territory? Here? Do you try to kick a
field goal? You're a little far out for that. Let's see,
you're at the forty three. You're forget it now, They
just got uh the clock. They didn't get it off
in times, so they side note they've been flirting with
that for a majority of the first half. Artie, I mean,
(02:06:10):
and now into the second half, they finally get ding
for it. In fact, there were two or three plays
in that first half where I thought they didn't get
the snap off. And in this instance, Sirianni did he
know he oh, he said, called out a little early
to Usually they give you a split second afterwards, and
it seemed like they kind of got it off in time.
But they decided to getting the penalty. So instead of
third and nine, third and fourteen and now you know,
(02:06:33):
you just gotta make sure you don't make a mistake
and you take away the runaway, they could have picked
up three four yards and gone for a field goal
if they wanted to. Well that then again, then only
put you up from three to six. That's not good
enough in this yeah, But but also already that run
play looked like it had potential whenever it was blown
dead too because they didn't get it off. In fact,
I think the running back had hit the whole as well.
And it's uh, it's not gonna matter because God or
(02:06:53):
just made an incredible catch. Another there another one, unbelievable. Well,
they're hustling back though, let's let's let's watch the replay.
They're sprinting back to the line. Did he get both
feet down and then he dragged too, just to be safe?
That is not only a sensational throw, but a great
catch by God. Her next nap is off and won't
(02:07:16):
reveal it. But there is a flag flag four. I
thought maybe they were stopping it to look at it again.
I think they are stopping it. They got the call
from New York? Did they really? I thought this wasn't
a catch. He bostle. Does he drag? You know what?
There's no toe drag. I thought there was a toe drag.
(02:07:36):
There's not. I don't know if he caught. It's not
a catch. The ball move. They're not gonna give him
a catch. It's gonna be fourth down. Wow, you know
I didn't see them. Um. I want to challenge that.
Did that come from New York? Or what exactly is
going on here? I'm not there's a bobbled one. I
don't know. I don't what do you think? Bo? I
know you're watching it with eagle colored glasses on right now?
(02:07:58):
I mean it gonna look very suspect if they let
a play get off and then all of a sudden
they say no, actually the play didn't get off. They
keep the flag up like there was a flag on
the play, but they haven't have they given an indication
on't challenge. Yeah, it was not a red challenge like
there were guys coming off the bench, which counted as
(02:08:19):
a substitution where you have to let the chief substitute
as well. And so they're gonna let it go, and
you know, conveniently, this gives us all more time to
look at what was not a completion. But it is
gonna wind up first down, first down four. They again,
what's this? Probably challenging it? That should be what are
(02:08:40):
we doing? You know he's not allowed the challenge that
they got a penalty, didn't they or no? Am I
I'm confused now. I thought once they went ahead and
cleared up that flag, you can't challenge it. Now he's
challenging it. But but he's challenging it now because he
thought it was gonna get challenged before. He's thinking they
picked up the delay of game flag because you have
to give us time to substitute. But is this gonna
(02:09:02):
turn into a penalty for throwing a challenge flag? We
didn't need to, just like it did with Jim Schwartz.
Why did they keeps showing us the goddard catch if
they are going to allow a challenge for may this
is the last thing the NFL needed after the last
two weeks of the championship games in the officiating, Like,
I don't know are the stories coming out of the
Super Bowl is going to be. We still don't know
what a catches and fields are are still these fields
(02:09:23):
are still after the illegal substitution. So there was a
flag on that play, correct, you can't challenge after a flag? Well,
they're letting him do it. I don't understand. I've never
saw I never saw the red challenge flag until now.
I think Andy Reid was under the impression that during
that first flag they were gonna go ahead and look
(02:09:45):
at it. I think he's confused. Also, you know that's
that's a really good point. And maybe not helping is
that they put a first down graphic up there, so
do a count the delay of game and it's still
third and long or what that's And just can I
mentioned also while we have a break, they've gone to
commercial for the review. You talked about design runs for
(02:10:06):
Jalen Hurts. Of course, you normally don't have a spy
on a quarterback anyway, he's not always accounted for. But
the design runs work so well with this quarterback for Philadelphia.
He has about sixty one downs just on designed runs
this season, which is almost double any other quarterback in
the NFL. On the play he fumbled on that was
(02:10:27):
run back for a touchdown in the first half, that
was a designed run up the middle of Nick Bolton
just blew it up. Remember they ran the same play
later and he got a conversion and a long run.
I don't know how they account for him the rest
of the game. Nothing's changing in that regard. I'm talking
about the problem the Chief's defense had. So you had
an incredible first half with the numbers from hurts almost
(02:10:50):
two fifty yards and three touchdowns. Only two other qbs
have had those numbers in the last thirty plus years
of Super Bowls. I mean, it was a sensational first half.
Legit make question, how does Kansas City account for that?
How do you change that? Because if you don't, you
don't win. So we'll wait. Everyone seems to think everyone's split.
(02:11:10):
I'm cracking up on my social media feed right now.
There is that's a catch. That's not a catch, No way,
that's a catch, because remember the Dez Bryant catch when
he re grips it. Now, now you have to look again.
It doesn't get too fitted after them. Surprise, they're still
able to look at it. There was no I guess
the illegal substitution. There was no yards, as uh As
(02:11:32):
says on that penalty or what. I don't know. They
must have picked up the flag. I thinking that's what
it was, which gave him a chance. If they don't
pick up that flag and forget about it, you can't
challenge it. This is a massive moment in this game.
And we're still sitting here debating what is and isn't
a catch? How many years has been since Calvin Johnson
and the biggest game of the year, And yeah, we're
(02:11:54):
we're sitting here debating what is and isn't a catch?
You know, they're going on and on about George Toma
in the fields and it hasn't been good, and on
and on about this expedited reviews. It's going to stand
by the way, how about that? And Kansas City loses
a time out? Good? That should be an iron play catch?
What are we doing if that's not a catch? He
(02:12:15):
got both football did move. That's what they're well, But
then again the earlier here's what I'm wondering from that angle,
didn't move or does he have it pawed with his
right hand? In other words, it looks like he's got
a pretty good grip. Now I haven't seen the other
angle and may come out a bit, but I'm glad
they upheld that catch on the field. You know what
I think that they should do in the review process,
(02:12:35):
expediting and going forward. No slow moo allowed during the review, seriously,
and I think that watch it, Watch it as it
happened live on Miles Sanders to start the second half,
probably that sacrifice to go in the third quarter, Philadelphia
on the move. They've got a three point lead and
(02:12:56):
a nice run on first down by the Sanders. We
wait for far carries out Where has they been? They
have not given him the ball in a while. He's
got two yards rushing tonight. That's it, And I think
they came with the very first play of the game,
by the way, rushing yards for Philadelphia right now. Jalen
Hurts eleven carries sixty three yards, two scores, six carries
eighteen yards for Kenneth Gainwell. Boston Scott has three carries
(02:13:19):
for eight yards and I think it's two for negative
two now for Miles Sands. Actually, you know what I
need to just he just got four on that one,
so so there you go. So he's up under the
negative four for seven yards for for a mile. If
you would have told me that before the game, I'm saying,
Philadelphia better be passing. They're in big trouble, right Philadelphia
is getting rolled right now because they've only gotten out
(02:13:39):
and now Miles Sanders is starting to cook a little bit?
Does this feel like a three point game too? Right now?
I have to keep looking at the score going. I
keep thinking that philadelevel, he's up by double digits or something,
you know, you know, And it's a weird feeling, right
because I'm with you. If I'm a Chiefs fan, I'm
mad with the way that they've played. But I looked down,
I'm like, well, we're only down three right now. It
(02:14:00):
The more concerning thing is we're only down three and
they're in the red zone. Well, they're knocking on the
door of the red zone on a third and one,
no push play there. They decided not to go with
the push play on third and was in the shotgun
and he took it on the center. They went ahead
and pitched out and they're not going to get it, Chris,
it's gonna be fourth and one. No reason to go for,
no reason to go for the field go here then
(02:14:21):
only put you up by six, And that the way
the Chief's offense looked. I'm not taking that chance. I
gotta go for the first. Okay, we first guessed this.
Why don't you still go for the rugby play because
you gotta get too cute. I mean, it's just you
think you might fool him. I don't be able to
get him work this year. Look is it's so annoying
seeing it go out to the outside like that. Yeah,
(02:14:42):
the Chiefs didn't have one of their guys on the field,
so they get a guy in late and the push
play works to perfection and Jayalen gets the first down.
So it worked on fourth and one. You didn't try
it on third and one. How many times has that
play not workedates? That is my That is my number
one football pet pee across any level is when you
have third and short or fourth and short shot and
(02:15:04):
you do something shotgun or you do something outside. Oregon
did it this year and settled running plays out of
the shotgun. Just in general, the Kansas City could finish
off this third quarter, each team with a void had
one possession. Right is no, you're right, because Kansas City started,
they they they gave the ball back that would be astounding. Yeah,
(02:15:24):
you're right. Six plays, seventy five yards, three minutes and twelve,
three minutes and twelve seconds. They did it again. They
did not get that ball off in time, and they
didn't call a penalty on that. I told you they've
done it a couple of times. That hurts is gonna
get the edge, but only maybe get a yard. Part
of me, I apologize, I looked at the wrong drive.
Ten plays, seventy five yards, five minutes and thirty seconds.
So they end up a lot of clock? Did uh?
(02:15:46):
Did Kansas City? And now, look, as you just said, Arnie,
we're approaching what two minutes to go on the third quarter.
Let me put it this way, Chris, Chris. For the
drives for the Chiefs, they had seventy five yard drive
their first I've touchdown right, seventy five yard drive their
first drive of the second half. Aside from that, they
have about fifty yards of offense. Right, there in the
(02:16:08):
middle of this thing. Wow, alright, so second down in eleven, Oh,
we got a break. All right, Let's let's see what
happens on this pla. The Eagles lead the Chiefs with
Arnie span your m Christ's see what happens on third
in complete pass on second and eleven. So yeah, good call.
We'll find out when we come back. I've been informed that,
due to the constraints of the broadcast clock, we must
(02:16:28):
take a time out third and eleven for the Philadelphia
Eagles winding down here in Super Bowl fifty seven. Oh,
Kelsey just absolutely took a cheap shot on one of
the Chiefs one. We'll see if the Eagles still have
the football when we come back. They lead the Chiefs
super Bowl fifty seven on Fox Sports Radio. Aren't in
playing Super Bowl fifty seven here on Fox Sports Radio.
(02:16:51):
I think I accidentally called Jake Elliott Lynn Elliott. I
went back in time earlier in the show, so I
would like to apologize. Uh, call back to the first
hours Eagles. They were unable to convert on third down
and kick the long field goal, and now Arnie Kansas
City is just grinding this running game. Will ahead to
the fourth quarter with the Chiefs charging into Eagles territory
(02:17:13):
down only six. If Kansas City wins this game or
we could have another m v P from the losing team,
does Jalen Hurts still win it from the What does
that happen once? Yeah? Yeah, one time? But I don't know. Man,
Isa Pacheco is kind of making a claim here, at
least trying to. I mean, if Jalen Hurts did also
drop a football that led to a touchdown for Kansas City,
(02:17:33):
you would have to be Mahomes or nothing, and Mahomes
numbers are not nearly as good. Uh too, Well, they
could give it to him anyway as they win the game,
but there's a decent chance that Hurts would get it.
I don't know. Oh, I have just discovered what's wrong
with the turf, Arnie. I just have figured out what's
wrong with the turf. The super Bowl is being played
on Oklahoma State turf. That's what's wrong. Um, according to
(02:17:58):
A And by the way, uh Elliott, Jake Elliott slipped
on the damn kickoff right? Uh So this turf is
Tahoma thirty one and it's among the newer breeds of
grass that have been developed with the funding of the
United States Golf ACIL that it was with the U
s G A good move there. Tahoma thirty one is
(02:18:19):
a mix of two types of bermuda grasses in rye grass,
and it was developed at Oklahoma State University. See says Pike,
taking pride in seeing the cross state rivals getting explited.
I don't think it. I don't think it had too
much to do with Oklahoma State. They're rock stars when
it comes to that. But yew, this is a weird
(02:18:39):
storyline that's developed out of this, right. I mean, I
think we've had like one rainy super Bowl, maybe two,
and now you've got a situation where you're indoors and
we're talking about guys slipping. I haven't heard them, but reports, yeah,
oh it's open tonight. Okay, we haven't seen the reports
about you know there are we haven't heard him. We've
seen the reports about the different pairs of shoes that
(02:19:02):
everyone has had to put on because they haven't been
able to find some sort of rhythms. So they showed
like a whole hamper full of you a lot. I mean,
it must have been like, I don't know, people changing
tweets or something like that. So as it stands right now,
as we head of the fourth quarter, the Eagles have
a one lead. As Arnie said, your your favorite right
(02:19:24):
now for the m v P is Jalen Hurts. He's
twenty two or thirty one throwing the football for two
hund thirty four yards in it and a touchdown, and
he's running the ball thirteen times for sixty six yards
and two scores. You want to unbelievable stat, listen to
this one that just came across. It seems unreal. But
the Kansas City Chiefs have had a four third down
plays so far? Is that possible? They've had four third
down play so far this year, this game, this game. Uh,
(02:19:48):
I can confirm that they're one of four on third
downs so far on this game. How about this number
that Sam McDowell tweeted out just a couple of minutes ago.
He writes for the Kansas City Star, The Eagles have
been lined up on third down fifteen times in this game.
And make sure that's updated up fifteen times this game
for the Philadelphia Eagles, They've converted nine, got one on
(02:20:09):
a penalty, got two more on fourth down, and got
one more on a fourth down pre snap penalty. Overall,
that's fifteen third down setups and eventually thirteen first downs,
and so the way those snaps wouldn't count wouldn't work.
The numbers. They've been incredible on third down this game.
That's what wins football games, especially when the number is
(02:20:30):
so high like that. They and even with the domination
of that, the domination of time and possession of plays
of yards, they're forty yards away from being behind in
this game. Yeah yeah, um because a big pickup to
j j Um to Smith Schuster at what the thirty
yard line, So they're knocking on the door right now
(02:20:52):
of the red zone is Kansas City. You cannot count
out mahomes man. I know, we try to end games
and the funny thing is to say it's over and
talk about ash in your bets in the first half.
I get it, it's funny, ha ha, But I mean
it's not reality. And and now you've got Philadelphia making
them snakes, making mistakes. Aren't given free opportunities to Kansas City.
Look at I mean, just dumb, just dumb overall moves
(02:21:15):
being made here by Philadelphia. They got they got another
one right here. As you said, fourth that that gives
him a first in five situation. Now way off sides.
I don't know what he's thinking about, but it wasn't
even close on not play all right, Um, we got
a lot to get to, right, We still have the
rest of the fourth quarter fourteen nineteen to go. In
the fourth Eagles lead to twenty seven and twenty one,
(02:21:35):
while uh Kansas City tries to march towards tying and
maybe eventually taking the lead in this game. Let's get
caught up on everything going on within this game and
around the world of sports. Here is Steve to say, Well,
the way things started tonight, this Super Bowl was just
the second ever in which both teams scored a touchdown
on their first possession. So it was seven seven after
the first quarter fourteen fourteen during the second quarter, goals
(02:22:00):
at half, and as you mentioned one Philly. Right now,
we're just a minute into the fourth quarter of play.
Jalen Hurts your early favorite for m VP of the
Super Bowl tonight. But this, as you mentioned, the victory
is hardly secure. But just in the first half, Jalen
Hurts had nearly two hundred fifty yards and the Chiefs
as a team had under one thirty. Hurts has had
(02:22:21):
a Super Bowl record the mark for rushing for a
quarterback in a Super Bowl with Steve McNair sixty four
yards rushing. Jalen Hurts has sixty six on thirteen carries,
two touchdowns on the ground, one through the air. Hurts
has two hundred thirty four yards passing as well. The
Kansas City Chiefs are at minimum in field goal range
as they've driven into the red zone, now inside the
(02:22:42):
ten yard line of Philly, down one. The Colts reportedly
planned to hire Eagles offensive coordinator Shane steike In as
their new head coach. Two NBA games Boston one again
beating Memphis, Toronto edge Detroit by a point. Upset. In
college hoops, Northwestern at home beat number one, produce six.
New Mexico State men's basketball has canceled the rest of
(02:23:04):
its season after a police report on harassment and hazing there.
NHL wins for Vegas and Seattle. Scottie Scheffler won the
Phoenix Open. He regains the number one ranking. As for
the Chiefs and the offense, they've got a third and
three coming up, third and three in the red zone.
They're down six. What did we talk about early in
(02:23:25):
the show. Don't have missed opportunities like the Bengals did
in the a f C title game. Twice Cincinnati had
to settle for short field goals and wound up losing
on a lake field goal. Remember that winning field goal
came right after the un unnecessary roughness penalty on Cincinnati
shoving Mahomes that day one. We'll see what happens on
(02:23:47):
the third down here the third and three, Thanks Steve,
as we come to the last from the tire rack
dot Com Studios. Third down and three? What was that?
What defensive breakdown? What they left? Oh? My areas? Tony
uncovered uncovered? He was uncovered, literally literally uncovered. Just dropped
(02:24:07):
it out to him for a seven all extra point
pending here. I'm not gonna lie. There was a part
of me that was kind of rooting for a oh
Darius Slay Junior. No one switched with him. Do we
have to mention out loud that Harrison bust Bucker missed
three extra points? Well, but again, we're all kind of
rooting for overtime right because we're going until ten p
(02:24:28):
Central time. Regardless, it should be fine. But I just
as long as he doesn't slip. That should be fine, right,
and we've seen it. What he barely made that one?
Oh my god, I want to look at that one again.
I don't know if that was How could they just
call that that was barely in there. I slipped just
inside the right upright, but it seemed to go higher
than the upright. Yeah, so that made it a little
bit I think somewhat deceiving. But I was the same
(02:24:50):
way Anion was, like, did he just missed that? By
the way, arias Tony getting a touchdown in the Super
Bowl after this, oh, one wonderfully wretched journey he's had,
just from you know, the Giants drafting him when everyone
was like befuddled the Giants drafting another wide receiver after
they had just signed Kenny Golladay to getting traded away,
(02:25:12):
including that part of the dable system. Here he has
touched down in the Super Bowl. I'm sure they're gonna
show it right after the break. But there were two
Chiefs receivers lined up to the right. Both defensive backs retreated,
but it was Tony that went towards the sidelines. Nobody
came with him. You're right, he was wide open for
the tee and I think it was either Darius Slay
wasn't supposed to come off of him or someone was
(02:25:33):
supposed to rotate out because a sign that was absolutely boxed.
So because you love win probability, Arnie, the Chiefs are
now at fifty four point seven to win this game,
the first time that they've been at this spot since
the game was fourteen to fourteen. So there you go.
(02:25:54):
And we've had the first of many tweets how are
the Chiefs ahead in this game? And from pro football
tuck mistakes, Philadelphia Eagle mistakes when they when they lose
this game, they're gonna kick themselves out. A side note,
breaking news. I'm surprised the Sagger didn't get this with
the update. Bad job by you. Rihanna is pregnant. It
is confirmed, so okayn't tell by the wardrobe at half?
(02:26:16):
I was I was abouted to say it had lad.
I think to a lot of awkward wants to ask
questions during halftime, it's like, you know, it kind of
looks like she might be pregnant. Okay, all right, very good.
Hey we're brought to you by Progressive Insurance. Progressive makes
a building easy, bundling easy, and affordable. Can a multi
policy discount by combining your motorcycle, RV, boat, a TV
(02:26:39):
and more all your protection in one place, Bundle and
save it. Progressive dot guys, what do we say at halftime?
Two things? Do they do? They abandon the run? We
agreed no, don't give up on the run, and that
has succeeded for Casey in the second half. Second, can
Kansas City actually win as bad as most of that
first half was? The answer was an absolutely yes because
(02:27:00):
they have Mahomes. They just need to keep it close.
This stat from a p and Mahomes career, regular season
and playoffs. To start the fourth quarter, the Chiefs have
been within a score nine one of the ninety four
games he has started. They're always in it, always in it.
By the way, Bucky Brooks sends something out our very
own Bucky Brooks said, the same issue that plugs high
(02:27:21):
school defensive backs also affects the pros I discipline and man.
The man is critical and Slay surrendered a touchdown because
he didn't keep his eyes on his work. So it
was Slay that made the mistake. Keep in mind, as
nice as the numbers have been for Jalen Hurts, running it.
He has slung it well tonight. To official numbers for
her its are twenty two four yards in one touchdown.
(02:27:45):
So they still have a chance to get the passing
game going. And we're gonna not see a return here.
And it feels weird to look at the score and
see Kansas City on top after everything that's happened here tonight,
and Philly still doesn't have a sack. Oh my god.
They have pressured him, but they don't have a sack yet,
still running down the clock. If you're Philadelphia, you're still
doing everything the same, or you more cognizant of the
(02:28:07):
time just in case you're behind and you don't score
this series. I I don't know, you're still dragging that clock. Now.
It's a little different. By the way, Philly hasn't gone
into the fourth quarter without a sack in a game
since Week six, so it's been a very long time.
And it does seem as if they've been involved in
affecting things. They just haven't been able to finish it
in the backfield with Patrick Mahomes, right, I mean, they've
(02:28:28):
been been able to move a little bit, which is
what they saw offense needs. Oh boy, that was a
scary play. On first down Dallas, Godard made a catch.
They end up making something out of nothing. Pick up
about in the yards, but that's what they had Hurts
trapped there at the back that he wasn't gonna go
in getting into yards. He was about to take a
loss if you didn't throw it away. Pretty smart play
(02:28:48):
by the linebacker too. I mean again, like I said,
we're not big X and no guys, but there's certain
things you can see because if he doesn't realize that
Godard is going out to the flat, I mean, Goddard's
got what prefect about ten yards of green grass in
front of him if you have done lap the picture
by the way, if if you're the defender, if you
turn your head, you may have a pickoff and going
back the other way on that one, you know, or
lobs ride over your head and you're not able to black.
(02:29:11):
I can't like, I've been so impressed with how accurate
um I just said accurate, Like I'm back home and
golds me how accurate Jalen Hurts has been in this game.
I do gotta say on this drive though, like Spagnola,
the defensive coordinator for can't see they're dialing up the
pressure here. They're throwing everything. There are guys like going
for big plays all over here. On on that one too,
(02:29:32):
and nearly got swiped. Yeah. Um, they nearly picked off
the first pass like and he brought up like you
brought up a fete. They nearly picked off the second pass.
Now down two, big moment. This is where Philadelphia has
been incredible. Just be getting the first down, right, if
I'm close, I'm going for it on fourth down if
I get the push play in there, you know not
not didnt two to go? Um, Oh my gosh, Hurts
(02:29:56):
is gonna roll out. He's being pressured. He'll throw across
his addie and it's incomplete. So Kansas City, we'll get
the football. Oh my goodness, quick three and out. So
I don't think you worry about going for it here, Arnie,
would you say no? But if you're yeah, because if
you run the ball and you don't get it, maybe
your fourth and inches fourth and one, then you could
(02:30:17):
have the guts to go with the push play because
it's so close. I can't do that now they are
punting it away. Those were three plays of un pressure.
Like we you just watched her scramble for his life there.
This is all pressure from the Chiefs aside from that
touchdown drive to start the second half, Kansas City does
not have a five minute drive and there's still ten
(02:30:37):
minutes left in the game and they have That was
the only one drive was like less than a minute.
Darius Tony nearly dropped the punt about he's he's got
a group, He's got a group in front of him.
He's gonna get to the tin. He stepped down and
he stepped out of the tin. Wow, what a big
(02:30:57):
time punt return from Darius Tony who has the touchdown
reception on the drive before and a six. Wish I
was at the Eagles party right now and he's like,
what happened? We were the first half? Yeah, these are
the two worst special teams groups. Yeah. By slip, do
you see more turf popping up? As he slipped on
(02:31:19):
the left side and ran to the right side line.
And he wasn't like he's running full speed either, He's
like jogging. The funny thing is he had a blocker
that looked back at him. He's probably like, hey, go
block somebody. What are you doing? So it's just a
huge crowd running. It looked like the doors just opened
on Black Friday. Call it now, if the Kansas City
scores a touch shot, here, do you go for two?
Sometimes they go for two when you're up by seven
(02:31:40):
instead of going up by eight, you try to end
the game. The thinking is because the other team won't
come back and go for two if they're only down
by seven. What do you think you'd really have to
be feeling it? A lot a lot of coaches do
that super Bowl. Not in the Super Bowl said during
the regular season, Well, Kansas City did it against Vegas.
They they did it in the in the game against
(02:32:00):
Vegas and erow do you know before the Raiders absolutely sucked.
They went to Arahead and nearly beat Kansas City had
him beat uh if if Davante Adams was able to
get both feet in on a catch which was originally
ruled a catch, But I'm not still bitter. But Kansas
City did the exact same thing. They're doing. The ring
around the roads. Yeah, they came out of the huddle
(02:32:21):
to the quick ring around the rosy Philadelphia is ready
for it and Mahomes has to throw it away. So
we got a third down from the one yard line.
For Casey coming up. Let's say in advance you go
for it on fourth down. Right. I know it's only
a one point lead, but do you want to be
doing the ring around the rosy when you're up by
one point? Super Bowl? Maybe if by thirty I squeezed
(02:32:44):
that in a little bit. Oh my gosh, that's such
a wild play because they have their extra offensive lineman
Army that's lined up like a tight end. So it's confusing.
Is all get out? All right? Third and goal there
at the four yard line. Seven Kansas City leads over Philadelphia.
There's to go in the game. Another breakdown in coverage.
(02:33:05):
Can you believe that Philadelphia has nobody to blame? Again?
Many Arnie, Why can't you just pause your feed for
the other time? It was Tony to the right, nobody
with him? Now sky more wide to the left, nobody
with him? What's guarding him? Who's guarding that jew here?
(02:33:26):
You know, as our Brian know said, the Eagles keep
screwing up the little things tonight, the jumping offside, delay
of game, the fumble, not guarding receivers. This is such
a winnable game for Philly tonight. I don't go for
two I don't go for two. I just go up
by eight, and that's what he's going to do. I
I go up by eight and let them get the
two point conversion. Forced them to have to get to
(02:33:47):
if they score, and that's right now, that's a big
if against they can't keep you like, Hurts is very
lucky with the pressure that came to him that he
escaped three three Blitz is like that unbelieving. But it's
officially scoring game now. Thirty five twenty seven, Kansas City.
Hit the over. We have hit the over, and we've
hit time for a time out. It's Arnie and Plank
(02:34:10):
on Super Bowl Sunday, Super Bowl fifty seven, Kansas City. Yeah,
that's right. The Chiefs are in control. With to go
in the game, we'll see if the Eagles can rally.
Next on Fox Sports Radio, it's Arni and Plank on
Fox Sports Radio, Super Bowl fifty seven, coming down the wire,
six seven to go in the game, Chiefs leaded by
eight and Philadelphia facing a third and five. Here, what
(02:34:34):
do you do, aren'ie? I gotta get uh at Jalen
Hurts outside the pocket and let him use his feet
if he has to, or if you have somebody open
to get it out to the flats. I I mean,
I've got a certain utilizing him a little bit more,
and he just picked up a big first down. So Philadelphia,
it's across midfield. They're in Kansas City territory. A little
under six minutes left in this game. So just my
(02:34:55):
my dorky NFL side of me. Kansas City starts dialing
up the pressure, bringing blitzes, Jalen Hurts, just those quick
little slants. I'm not so sure I want to be
doing that. You don't want to get burned. Get them
right back in this thing, especially that you're up by
and you know what you know. So funny Chris, they
did exactly what you said, and it's going to cost him.
That's what Smith, that's what you don't want to do.
(02:35:16):
Big bomb. They brought heat again. Smith breaks freem No.
One within what a good ten yards of him. Why
wasn't that a touchdown? It was I don't think you
could just keep back. He couldn't keep balance, he was,
he was falling. He caught it and there's two feet
step three. He stepped out at about the three yard
line A million times well, and and so they do
(02:35:40):
it the first time and they get the touchdown. They
get the touchdown, he's in touchdown Philadelphia two point in
first time. Do not ruin this? Aren't okay? I'm gonna
keep quiet on this one. Will Will you let us
all experience this in real time? What what do you
call here? Do you something outside the pocket? A quarterback draw?
What are you gonna do here on this? At two point?
Where is it the four yard line? Is that where
(02:36:02):
they I do the damn push again? No, no, you
can't do that. Why hide? It's the most effective play
that they've had all they see it coming. By the
way you lined up, They've something the whole time. They
just did it from two yards out and he got
in easily. If it's that easy, I do it every
time from yards You know what. They're gonna try that
(02:36:22):
fancy little pitch play here, aren't they, and try to
get on the edge. They're gonna know they're gonna spread
guys out trips left two point attempt here to tie
the game thirty five thirty three. Kansas City leads it
with five fifteen to go in the game. Maybe the
biggest moment of the game. They're gonna run hurts to
the left, turns the corner, he gets in. We're tied up.
(02:36:45):
Jalen Hurts powered his way into the end zone. Thank
you Aarnie for not ruining that. I legitimately got nervous.
I'm waiting for the I'm waiting for the overtime to
ruin it. Oh, you're definitely gonna do that, there's no doubt.
And Davante Smith on a ball that was just slightly underthrown.
You know what a low key, big time play on
that catch that he made was that he Um, he
(02:37:08):
drugged his back foot And so we're time, We're tied
in the Super Bowls quarter. Let's go. This is why
they tell you you should go for two points because
that Kandidacy not made it, they would have still been
up by seven, and in Philadelphia would have just kicked
the extra point and it would have been tied anyway. Um, yes,
you're forced him to go for the two point conversion,
but you get a freeze shot at the two point
conversion to go by two scores. Maybe that's the thinking there.
(02:37:31):
You know, real quick prop gambling update. That is a
Jalen Hurts octopus. Really, I know that was like a
big prop the octopus is like you gotta have passing.
It's I forget what it is, but it's like eight
points on back to back plays. And that was Art's
in for the touchdown and then the two point conversion.
I know my friend Ryan had a big prop beat
(02:37:52):
on and on an octopus in this game was like
the Grand Salami or in hockey or Grand Slammie. I
would if I was and someone that hit that, I'd
be the happiest dude on the planet just to see there, like,
oh my gosh, they're going for two. It's an eight
point game. If they score, look out, I've got a
chance to hit this. Congratulations on that prop. So, by
the way, on the on the anthem, because I don't know,
(02:38:14):
but I was unavoidably detained when it hit. Did did
me at the over on Chris Tapleton's anthem? Okay, that
went over? I wasn't sure about all the numbers, but
they said it did go over. Hat And and by
the way, my favorite prop that got screwed up this
year was someone asked Lane Johnson about what color gatorade
they and he's like, well, we've been like a limon
lime team all season long. And the prop became so big,
(02:38:36):
so many people bet on the lime gatorade that they
literally shut it down. They're like, okay, we're good here,
everyone's got your ticket, all right, all right? So when
we come back, Sarni Plank on Super Bowl Sunday, Can
the Chiefs respond? How will they respond? Will we be
looking at the second overtime game in NFL history. It's
(02:38:57):
the two one seeds and they're playing like it one.
An absolute blast with Arnie spanierd Um Chris Plank. Fourth quarter.
We're all tied up in the Super Bowl. At thirty five,
All Kansas City has a football when we come back,
Plus the sacer has got an update on all the
stats and numbers. Next on Fox Sports Radio, Super Bowl
(02:39:18):
very much in the balance with Arnie and Plank on
a Fox Football Sunday, we're watching the Super Bowl together
and it has been a classic so far. Eagles Chiefs
and noted up at thirty five a big run by
Isaiah Pacheco for ten yards on third and short after
Arnie it looked like he might have been k ode
(02:39:41):
for a while after that big hit. Yeah, that was
a big hit there By the way, the ratings record
will certainly be broken with this game, nobody changing the
chattel on this um. With how close it is is.
We're tied up with about two left, and look at
Mahomes running on that bad ankle man, unbelievable, the guts
he just pulled on that play. He's certain he's hurting
bad and Philadelphia can't stop him on one leg. Imagine
(02:40:05):
if this dude was a healthy right now, Patrick Mahomes says,
not your m v P yet. Jalen Hurts picks up
a huge run, gets Kansas City. Wasn't that thirty yards? No,
not quite thirty gets him knocking on the door right
here of the red zone, uh, twenty six yards and
in fact that'll cross into the red zone at the
Philly seventeen first down in ten. So Prefet asked me,
(02:40:29):
and I love this problem. One and a half scores
over under before this game comes to an end, what
would you take right now? What? Well? I was gonna say,
it's it's gonna be under. It's gonna be one, because
I think Kansas City is going to hold this ball.
To see, there's two minutes left, but Philadelphia does have
time out, so I'm wondering if they could go ahead
and get one first down and then they could just
(02:40:50):
wait for the game winning field goal. I don't know
if that's possible, but so he looks that way. Yeah,
that's that's a great point. You're not we're at the
two minute warning of this game. It's second down, though,
it's second down after a short run, so you get
a first down after you know it'll be a second
and eight. Let's say you get a couple of yards
here at third and six. Eagles use the time out
(02:41:11):
already in Phildelphia, the Kansas City used the time and
and and Eagles in the Eagles used their time out
in a situation where the play clock was running down
on them on a third down and long but fast,
fascinating final minutes closing standsy here between Philadelphia and Kansas City.
We've been all over tonight. Thank you for guys for
tuning in. Great job. Bow Benson, diehard Eagles fan, has
been living and dyeing every play. Chris Perfett running the show,
(02:41:33):
Steven Sager's in the house, a great crew behind the
scenes that has been shopping up audio NonStop all night long.
As we come to you live from the tire rack
dot Com Studios tire rack dot Com will help you
get there. An unmatched selection, fast free shipping, free road
has for protection and over ten thousand recommended installers. Tire
rack dot Com to sager the way tire buying should
be as they stand right now, the field goal distance
(02:41:56):
would be exactly what the extra point distance is right
three yards. We already mentioned Harrison Butker, the Chiefs kicker,
missed three extra points in the season. He nearly missed
his last extra point kick in this game. We have
seen kickers and not just kickers, slipping and sliding and
turf coming up at this very bad field to have
(02:42:17):
a Super Bowl game. So all of that keep in
mind another reason why Kansas City just needs to push
it in for a t D. By the way, we've
had the first quarterback ever to rush for three touchdowns
in a Super Bowl Hurts Tonight, and the only guy
at any position that had run for three touchdowns in
a Super Bowl before was Terrell Davis. One more TD.
We have the highest scoring Super Bowl ever, which currently
(02:42:38):
is seventy five total points when they scored forty nine
and beat the San Diego Chargers in the mid nineties. Humphreys,
that is correct and they got it late to try
for a t D. I remember Al Michael's commenting about
that regarding the line, but that was seventy five total points.
Jalen Hurts has set Super Bowl records for most rushing
tds by a quarterback and rushing yards by a order back.
(02:43:00):
And keep in mind the Chiefs were down ten at half.
Remember we brought that up. The record in Super Bowls
when you're down at least ten at halftime one and
twenty six. The only team to come back the Patriots
with the overtime win against the Falcons. Yeah, unbelievable. And
we've been talking about the greatness of Jalen Hurts here
this evening. Now there's been a couple of mistakes that
(02:43:21):
he's made as well, But consider this note Jalen Hurts
three D seventy four yards combined rushing and passing four touchdowns.
The only other player to hit those marks in the
Super Bowl Joe Montana. And he's actually what scored twenty
points by and he's winning the m v P at
this game, win or lose, he's getting the m v PIT.
James White that had a Patriots Super Bowl with three
(02:43:43):
Joe Montana versus Miami Super Bowl nineteen, three hundred nine
yards and four touchdowns, Steve said, Steve to Seger, Steve
to Seger, you were great in the Super Bowl, Steve Young,
three hundred seventy four yards and six touchdowns. You just
mentioned that performance against the Chargers in Super Bowl nine.
They try to work the screen to Schuster and he
falls down. So that was something that was a half
(02:44:04):
fast pass there. That looks like somebody could out their
heads on that thing. You know, that means her down
coming up. If you don't convert this, you do have
to put the kicker on the field time out. If
you convert it, though, like Arnie brought up, you can
mil the game's essentially over if if if you can
count on dude making a field goal and bow. One
(02:44:26):
thing that's been a struggle is those short yards situations too.
If they pick up the first down here, I do
everything I can to push him into the end zone,
like the one of the Terrell Davis touch when they
pulled him in. Yeah. No, there's when I would have
let Mahomes score when he took off that on that
scrambled a couple of points. You can't that was a
defensive time out just now. Philly has one left. Yes, right,
(02:44:46):
they're gonna stop the clock. Now. Obviously they can't do
anything if they pick up the first down its third
and eight. But um, they don't pick up the first
down here, they'll have to hold them to a field
goal and then they'll have a plenty of time to
get back this. You've got to get pressure on Patrick Mahomes.
If you're filling Alphia, you've got to watch Travis Kelsey.
You can't lose Juju Smith Schuster. They don't get pressure
on Bope here it comes late. My homes to the
(02:45:07):
end zone in complete stock. I gotta tell you something. No,
that was a great defensive player. I don't see And
is this gonna be on hitting the homes? No? In
the second area? I think, how could you call that?
Oh my gosh, that is a really bad How do
you call that? Did I miss something? Unless he grabbed him,
(02:45:27):
let's see. I think he did a good job holding
prior to the past. Well, and now you're in that
situation like the sager was just talking about, Um, yeah,
he grabbed him. He grabbed him around the waist. Do
you do you now? Just try to do this call
your own foul. Is that what's going on here? How
do they call your old penalty? Goodness the flag? It's
(02:45:50):
first down now and the Eagles only have one time
out left on defense. We still have almost the whole
two minutes to go. Do you let him score? You
just say to a field goal? Well, and you know
for Kansas City with the field the way it is,
I mean, did they just score? No, they let him
score and he went out at the one yards. You
(02:46:13):
can't do that any Super Bowl. You monster Andy right
and ticking, and you really did that to him. Philly
just used their last time out with what one five?
They have to go in and make them score. Toh,
I guess he did the right thing. Yeah, he slip
his foot, but he was in touchdown right, But he
(02:46:37):
gives himself I know, he gives himself up. Even though
they didn't Gosh, you want to talk about bitterness coming out.
Even though they didn't give Derek Carr that same against
Jacksonville two years again a Super Bowl, they did give
Doug Williams that he gave himself up when he was
injured and kind of threw the ball away his knee
was hurting so much, and they didn't rule it a
fumble return. Say no, no, no, the quarterback gave himself up.
(02:46:59):
The runner slid like a baseball runner. Just now, am I?
Am I crazy? If I'm saying score, I mean takes
some time, But I don't think I want to leave
this in the hands of my kicker. No, no, but
that there would have been one five left on the clock.
But he slid down at the two, So we've still
got two plays to keep burning clock. And that's true.
And now my homes backs up and it's gonna down it.
(02:47:23):
I hope they shank this. Oh my gosh, I've gone
from thinking that that was cool too. Now you know
you can you could still What I don't know this
is you can still take a knee. But you didn't
have to lose all those yards where on third down
you got you could run a play where maybe you score,
and and that's fine. Instead of putting the hands into
the kick that was a second and one play, Why
(02:47:43):
don't you just get the first down and run all
of the clock after that. That's another gonna let you score.
But you're going to go down at the one yard,
yes exactly, and i'd be first down. You have four
new downs you take all of the time off. That
was ridiculous. He took a knee on the lost five
yards third down in six uh, and they're gonna burn
a time out. Here is Kansas City and they can't
(02:48:03):
throw now they're gonna have to hand it all that
is astounding. Hey, let's talk about that call. The holding call.
Any of you guys have a problem with Yeah, yeah,
I could see. I could see the reason. When you
have to say yeah, I could see that reason. The
reason is because the ball wasn't in the air yet
he held him. Try when Schuster is trying to get
down field. This is now going to be a second
(02:48:25):
straight Chiefs win that is marred by something weird. Remember
the late hit out of bounds and now this holding call.
It was a grab with the right hand on the
back of the jersey um as he was making his
cut just in just a tough, tough way. They're gonna
take a knee again here. I don't understand the way that.
I really hope they missed this field goal and they'll
(02:48:47):
be about an eleven second difference, ten second difference between
the game. Top. You can't do it. Can't do another touchdown.
It might work, but I think we all agree. Oh,
very this honorable way to end the football game, right,
I repeat, it was second and one. Just get the
first down and you can do what you wish. This
(02:49:07):
was Week four, okay, but this is the Super Bowl.
You know Reid's gonna take time. Let it run down
toil as you say, about eleven seconds, and then kick.
By the way, I had to laugh. I saw this
on my on my Twitter feed, Tony Tony Gerdeman. That's
some clutch reffin right there, final minutes, game on the line,
and then boom, you make the play, Buddy, Brian, No
(02:49:30):
tiki tach call. Hated was an epic Super Bowl until
the Zebras got involved. I like this Going to see
Jason Martin tweeting, he said, don't love the call. You
want to decide it on the field unless it's pretty
lat We've all seen far worse than that. Not called
also a deflating way for a thirty five thirty five
barn burner to potentially come to it. By pulling the
(02:49:52):
back of his jersey, you kept a step away from
you know, the ball landed beyond the receiver in the
end zone. Maybe he would have been able to dive
for it. We'll never know. Of course, I said we
were gonna have overtime. I'm hoping we can still get
that overtime. We'll see what happens. Well, if we don't,
we've got forty five minutes before Ephraim and and Willard
come in here. And I'm sure it's gonna be interesting.
(02:50:12):
But let's keep an eye on the turf here. And
that's the major thing. A chip shot there should be
a no brainer. Slips on the slips. Even if he slips,
he's gonna make it straight away. So twenty seven yards out,
Kansas City boom, but Kert drains. There's gonna be seven
eight seconds left in the Super Bowl, and Kansas City
has taken a thirty eight lead over Philadelphia. So do
(02:50:34):
we agree, guys, do not use up any seconds on
the kick return? Right? You could have to plays with
the quarterback. None? Absolutely right? And and gosh, eight seconds
left ahead. I was gonna say, I go one place,
hope I get like a penalty and then it's long
enough town field where I get a chance of the
field goal, I guess, or something like that. And let's
(02:50:56):
see he take for for a long pass from midfield yeah,
maybe even try that. I mean, if we ever had
a game end on a hail Mary before, let's go,
why not may win. Plenty of games have ended a
Super Bowl right right on a hail Mary. But yeah,
I gotta tell you something, man, this is this is
gonna be as hard to truly stomach of a Super
(02:51:17):
Bowl for Eagle fans if they if they fall, having
nothing to do with the call at the end, this
was so winnable for Philadelphia tonight. I mean, I'm seeing
a lot of people. I'm seeing a lot of people
mad about the call to exactly, but this is, this
is why Chris's point needs to be listened to. I
don't want to hear every show tomorrow talking about the
call as if the Eagles didn't have the game in
(02:51:38):
their own hell. But that's what you're gonna get. That's
gonna be the number one from a bunch of lazy
It's gonna hurt. It's gonna hurt you because we just
had a postseason where the narrative was this is bad
officiated and Roger Goodell on Thursday saying the state officiating
has never been better and the state of football fields
has never been better. Kansas city is doing everything possible
to allow Philadelphia to get a tie. I don't think
(02:52:02):
that was that was the one thing I know that.
But there was there was one thing you shouldn't do,
and that was short kicking like that. That's exactly what
they did. So the drive will start at the about
the thirty five instead. So is there only four seconds left?
I thought? Seconds? Okay, all right, okay, alright, because the
TV says four. So I felt like that, there you go.
Now they've adjusted it. Look, you are your two seconds
(02:52:22):
exactly ahead of us. He's doing it again. There he
goes on a question I gave you then. O. By
the way, they have the ball on the forty five
yard line, they no, excuse me, the thirty four or
six yard line. Yeah, so this is gonna be the
last play of the game. So you don't risk a
short pass here and try and have a play that
only last four seconds and then the long pass. Well,
(02:52:43):
you gotta be you gotta be really smart and getting
out of bounds as soon as you possibly can. Now
they're using all the time. Just gotta let it hail. Oh,
I didn't get to I didn't even know we had
such a bad arm. I would have thrown the pass
for him. I don't even think Aaron Rodgers can get
that that far down the field. You're asking a guy
to throw its seventy yards and the Chiefs for the
(02:53:03):
second time in the Mahomes era, our world champions Kansas
City has won the Super Bowl on a completely busted
leg one legacy game. For you're right, legacy game. Will
see Arnie if the m v P goes to the
team that lost because Jalen hurts out a night. What
what happened this week? We had a guy get into
(02:53:24):
the Pro Football Hall of Fame who is the only
m v P from the losing side Super Bowl Chuck Hawley, Dallas,
Super Bowl five just got into the Hall of Fame
on Thursday, never before or since as someone from the
losing side one Super Bowl today. Because the only reason
Patrick Mahomes would get it is because you look at
(02:53:45):
the stat sheet. Oh, three touchdown passes, Well, it was
two very short passes early fourth quarter where nobody was
covered either time. That's like the guy who intercepted Neil O'Donnell.
Remember in the Super Bowl he had two picks he
got Super Bowl m v P. Well's I guess if
if the quarterback throws it to you twice, yeah, I
guess you can get Super Bowl A v P. Well,
(02:54:05):
there was still a chance. I'll give it to my homes.
I don't know, you know it's fifty or not, but
I give it to Jalen Hurts. Hurts had over three
hundred yards passing. He had seventy yards rushing, which is
an all time Super Bowl record for a quarterback. He
had three touchdown runs and a touchdown pass and the
two point conversion that tied the game. Unreal. And I
(02:54:25):
know again, like you guys said, that narrative is gonna
be Kansas City getting that call late. But I mean
Philadelphia absolutely absolutely, But Philadelphia had plenty of opportunities not
to be there. But if I'm a fan of the Eagles,
I'm just I'm sick. It would have been fourth down,
Philadelphia gets the ball back down by three with plenty
of time, and we're sitting on the edge of our
seats for a fantastic finish. It would have been under
(02:54:47):
two minutes. Still still would have been yeah, so yeah,
much under two many. Right, Well, let's let's get a break.
Let's kind of talk about the legacy part. Of this.
Let's hear from the players as the celebration is taking place.
Right now, the Kansas City Chiefs are Super Bowl champions.
Patrick Mahomes does it again. He's got two rings. Thirty
thirty five the final This is Fox Sports Radio, all right,
(02:55:10):
super Bowl champs, Kansas City Chiefs. Unbelievable after what I mean,
let's be honest, Arnie, the first half where Philadelphia was
in complete and total control, and the second half Mahomes
it takes over and they get to win. Final score
UM to thirty five. Yeah, you know, look, first of all,
(02:55:34):
fantastic game graduations of both teams. That really was an
enjoyable game. Fun to watch them because set all kinds
of ratings records. Um, you know, but people gonna stay
out throughout the game. Uh really, Philadelphia will have nobody
to blame but themselves. That No, even though they had
the two blow defensive calls and the Jalen Hurts fumble,
let's not forget about that, they were still in a
(02:55:55):
position to win this or um do a few things
right and you know, would even have gotten to this point.
I feel bad for him, but congratulations to Kansas City.
Patrick Mahomes did it. Again he won his second Super Bowl. Um,
but people are going to bring up the officiating call. There.
One thing that bothered me about that, Chris, was they
had not been calling that all game long, and all
(02:56:16):
of a sudden, you change it too. It wasn't blatant
enough to be called in that situation. Three wasn't bite
enough to be called in any situation in the Super Bowl.
Should have let it gone. It would have been fourth
down and we would have a different ending. Yeah. Um,
it's tough, but I mean it goes back to that
conversation we've had quite a bit, right, If it's a penalty,
you've got to call it. I mean, but it's just it.
(02:56:39):
I am with everyone on Twitter. I'm not trying to
be as smart a look, but Arnie, you just hate
to see the game in like that. Here's the here's
the stat of the of the game. Chiefs had the
ball four times in the first half. They scored seven points.
Chiefs had the ball four times in the second half.
They scored thirty one. Um, so take that for what
it's worth. Not even scored thirty one points in four possessions.
(02:57:01):
I don't know, but they found a way to do
it and it was amazing to watch. I mean absolutely
amazing to watch. I just listen, I'm a fan of
a team, the a f C West, right, and as
I watched the uh the Vince Lombardi Trophy be handed
over to the Chiefs, I'm envious. Man, I'm jealous, bitter,
but I'm just it's so hard not to like Andy
(02:57:23):
reid right. It's it's kind of easy if you want
to not like Pat Mahomes because of of Jackson Mahomes
and his his wife and how obnoxious they are on
social media. It's easy to not like Travis Kelsey because
he never shuts up, which is fine because you're winning.
But there's something about Andy reid Man. And listen, I again,
I know that there's been problems for Andy in his life,
but damn, Hartie, he just seems like some dude that's
(02:57:46):
eating up with offensive football and is still creative. And
we tried to give up on him a couple of times,
and my god, my man's worked himself into probably what
a top ten coach, if not higher of all time.
Are you sounding like he's gonna retire after this game?
Is that what you think? Is that what I'm say?
I I'm like, well, there was didn't it wasn't he
quot and saying, I guess I gotta figure about the
things after the game. Um, I don't know. I don't
(02:58:06):
think he will though that one you have Patrick Mahomes
at a young age. I think I'd like to stick
around and win a couple more Super Bowls. By the way,
this just in Purple, Purple GATORA really Oh that was
the second with a friend. Let's second long shot other
than clear and water. And they were nine to One's
(02:58:28):
about that. Purple's only cash and twice since two thousand one,
in oh three with the Buccaneers and in with the Giants.
So there's pump those numbers out. Those are rookie numbers.
How A pop that man big time? UM, So congratulations
to those of you who held the ticket on Purple.
The correct answer was all right, listen, we're gonna hit
(02:58:50):
all the highlights coming up here in just a bit.
Plus we've got a action pass packed post game that's
coming up. Obviously, Mark Willard and e from salam are
coming up as soon as we're on. But we've got
some more to get to from the game that must
be talked about, including where we start placing the chiefs.
I know it's it's gonna be ah, it's gonna be
a day tomorrow to to complain about officiating. But now
(02:59:12):
with Mahomes Arnie, in five seasons, he's been in the
a f C Championship Game, he was a Super Bowl champion,
lost in the Super Bowl, went to the a f
C Championship Game, and now wins his Super Bowl in
his fifth season, his second on a bum ankle. He's
a two time m v P and by god, the
man is eleven and three in the playoffs. I know
we need longevity for dynasties, but man, it's kind of
(02:59:33):
hard to ignore it right now. I kind of wish
we would have saved all the tweets we would have
gotten that said no way you could win without Tyreek Kale.
I think he would be one of those. I would
be the first of the no way he can't. He
just lost all his offense. What are you get me?
Who's he gonna throw the ball too? It's over. Ain't
no way, You're not even gonna win. They may not
(02:59:54):
even make the playoffs. Remember remember all that narrative. Well
before the start of the season, I was I'm gonna
make this very clear. I did not think that he
was going to be able to have the same success
that he is having. But I didn't think that suddenly
this team would just disappear from the from the national radar.
I I firmly and always have believe the Kansas City
was gonna win the a f C West. You cannot
(03:00:15):
doubt a team that's good. I just devastated about how
terrible the Raiders were and blown away by how bad
the Broncos ended up being in how kind of irrelevant
the Chargers were. And the reason why is because Kansas
City is just a wagon right now, and as long
as they've got fifteen and as long as Andy Reid
keeps coaching, they're not going anywhere for a while. Man.
(03:00:35):
By the way, I guess who's happy right now? Uh?
Chief fans Chuck Holly? Oh is he? Jalen hurts because
because Hill remain the only person to be the m
v P from a losing team, Patrick Mahomes is the
Super Bowl m v P of Super Bowl fifties. Yeah again,
I I have a hard time arguing with it because
(03:00:57):
because of the comeback, the back, but in the homes
even in with two yards passing statistically is not even close. Well,
he had a hundred and eighty two yards passed. Unbelievable,
right and that, But it was seven. I don't remember
the last time he was like a twenty one twenty
seven for let's te yards. I don't. I don't remember
it at all. Uh, to be honest with you, I'm sure,
but he did this on a bomb ankle. He had
(03:01:20):
a run that was maybe one of the biggest, most
important plays of this game. Don't compare it to the
runs that Jayleen Hurts had and what he did in
the numbers he put up, it's not even close. But
we're gonna compare the two. They just gave it to
him as he they outscored him. Okay, then let's talk
about the biggest mistake made by each guy. Hurts with
the funnel that cost them seven. That's not an m
(03:01:41):
v P type performance in my book, No it is,
But I mean it was the one mistake. It was
the one glaring mistake. I am no longer allowing mistakes
for my m vps, aren'ty. That's alright, alright, listen, we
got all the audio. The guys are calling it all together.
We're gonna hit it when we come back the Big Place,
the highlights, the final call on the Chief's radio network.
But first let's get caught up one final time for
ARTI Night tonight with Steve Saker and City Chiefs win
(03:02:04):
thirty eight thirty five over the Philadelphia Eagles in Arizona
tonight post games on Fox TV at Super Bowl fifty seven.
And yes, Patrick Mahomes is Super Bowl m v P,
which means two times Super Bowl m v P already
in his career, two time league MVP, and in the
four major sports. He's the first in history to get
(03:02:25):
multiple m vps, multiple championship m vps, also within two
thousand days of your debut as a pro, and he
breaks the record. The last what seven regular season MVPs
lost in Super Bowl hurt Warner. That's the last league
MVP that also actually won the Super Bowl game, whether
(03:02:45):
he was in VP of that Super Bowl or not.
And you know the Homes it hurts where he's finalists
for the m v P this season. Yeah, the last
nine league MVPs that got to play in the Super
Bowl that at least season all lost the Big Game.
Brady twice as m v P loss Peyton Manning twice
as m v P lost the Super Bowl. But we
talked about going into the game the Eagles defense at
(03:03:07):
all the sacks, and I mean they had recorded sacks
on about twelve percent of quarterback dropbacks, including postseason, which
is the highest rate in any season by any team
since the Vikings. They had zero sacks in this game
against Patrick Mahomes here Kansas City. We've talked about the
unbelievably improved offensive line they have this year compared to
(03:03:30):
a couple of years back, Casey had allowed a sack
on fewer than four percent of its past plays, lowest
sack rate in the a f C this year. So
that beats the Eagles defense tonight and your Super Bowl.
M v P winds up with a hundred eighty two
yards passing, but three touchdowns and most importantly, the game
(03:03:51):
winning drive, a short field goal won it with eight
seconds left. But that was a five minute plus drive
that the Chiefs and Mahomes engineered twelve play sixty six yards,
so that essentially the Eagles did not get another possession
at the end. Philly led in this game at the
half by ten, so this becomes come back number two
(03:04:12):
in Super Bowl history, being down double digits at the
half and still winning the title. Brady and the Patriots
had such a comeback fact PHELLI even behind further as
we know against Atlanta and one in overtime that day
Darius Tony five yard touchdown catch from Mahomes early fourth quarter.
Then after the Eagles offense had a key three and out,
(03:04:32):
Kansas City got another quick touchdown and another short touchdown
pass Mahomes to sky More And on both of those TVs,
remember one to the left of the field, one to
the right with motion, neither receiver was followed or covered.
Thirty five Chiefs guys. This reminds me of when we
had a sensational Texas over USC Rose Bowl and all
(03:04:54):
the USC could fans could think about afterwards was how
winnable that game was and the leads they had and
if we just didn't do this or just didn't do that,
And there was a list of literally eight to twelve
things that if one of those things did not occur,
a s C would have won that night. Eagles fans
can do the exact same. Even on the miscoverage, they
(03:05:15):
could have still scored the next play. It wasn't like
Godi Well, I just the fumble. I mean, you talk
about the awesome game Hurts have. As he tries to
switch hands with the ball, it's fumbled because of pressure
by linebacker Nick Bolton, and Bolton picked it up and
returned at thirty six yards for a score to tie
it up at fourteen. And that was on Hurts up
(03:05:37):
the middle play a quarterback draw and it occurred right
after a false start third and one. So it's not
just the not covering and the turnover, it's just the
little things really at up. I'm not the first or
the last person to say this last night. If I'm
an Eagles fan, by goodness, put away the sharp objects.
This was a winnable game. Chiefs thirty eight thirty five
the final and don't forget the Colts reportedly planned a
(03:05:59):
high are Eagles offensive coordinator Shane Stike in as their
new head coach. Peck Here, Thanks, Steve Man, have a
great night fun hanging out during the Super Bowl. Once
again with you as our tradition continues here on Fox
Sports Radio, as we come to you live from the
tire rack dot Com studios. Hey, look at this, look
at this? A little edition, still overpaying for a razor,
(03:06:20):
and this economy gross. With Dollar Shaved Club, you can
get a top shelf razor at a regular shelf price.
Dollar Shaved Club is available at stores near you and
the men's razor Aisle. That's it, that's the act. All right,
Let's listen to a Twitter is really good man to
wrap the show up. But let's go back to back
(03:06:41):
to back with the three big plays and kind of
won the game. That kind of won the game for
the Kansas City Chiefs. Audible called by Patrick Mahols, ball
will be snapped in the center of the field with
the kind in the running back a fast left side
wide open sky Moore touchdown Terence City on a pivot
route and Kansas City has a chance now to get
(03:07:04):
up by eight points on a four yard touchdown past
Mahomes the sky More Winchester, the veteran's played in more
postseason games than any other Chief, tied with Travis Kelsey Townsend,
will hold it eleven seconds left in Super Bowl fifty
seven thirty five thirty five tie. The kick is good
(03:07:24):
and Kansas City leads five with eight seconds to go
in regulation in Super Bowl fifty seven, Hurts takes the snap.
The Chief's only rushing two on a delay. Clock is
gonna be out of time and the past is going
to be underthrowne. It's incompleats, It's into plain everyone, everyone
(03:07:47):
who claims that Chief's Kingdom will raise a better above
the National Football League. Again, for the second time in
four seasons, the Lombardi Trophy has a red and go
Old reflection, a big brand reflection. The Chiefs our champions
a Super Bowl fifties seven. It's my man Mitch Holtis
(03:08:09):
and the Chief's Radio Network. We take you live to Arizona.
Dan Buyer is on the field after the Super Bowl.
What a what a night? Dan, take us through what
the atmosphere and the energy was like inside the stadium.
I'll tell you what it was. Philly fans are always louder,
but the Chiefs fans had quite at present, and they
all held their captive prefice that you would say when
the homes went down with the you know, the gimpy
(03:08:30):
angel and there obviously on the side of of the
Eagles entering the halftime, but it just slowly started to
do in the play with you realized, guys that they
couldn't get any stops on defense, whether homes had two
legs or just even one. And so it was almost
like a slow drain of the Eagles, of the competent
of the Chiefs just kept on building and building and building,
(03:08:52):
and then out into the big penalty at the end.
Was a heartbreaker. But it just seems like the chief
stept on buildings from that tenfoy deficit and now they're
Super Bowl champs. Yeah, that's what's asking, Dan. I mean,
you were with all the media people. It seems like
a lot of people thought that that shouldn't have been called.
What were all the media people around you saying whether
you all burnt out that? Wonder what you know in
the area that we were are any um, you know,
(03:09:14):
because it's not necessarily a press box that got about
jewellery getting we're more near where the eagles and to
say obviously felt that the call was was bad, uh,
and it did not agree with it. However, I honestly
haven't seen a great replay because they haven't showed They
only showed one replay within the building of the play,
(03:09:34):
and it was as a lot of scrimmage. So why
maybe the worst guy to even ask, just because they didn't.
They didn't. They didn't throw it up there then the
uh that you ended up you know, the pocket the fields.
But they only showed just one shot of of of
juju coming off a lot of scrimmage, and that's all
we saw the stadium. Hey, and Dan, I'm curious one
more from me and we'll let you get to all
the post game interviews. But did you get the sense
(03:09:56):
that Philadelphia had kind of taken the air out of
the stadium? I mean, my point is, how big was
not just the fumble by Jalen Hurts, but how big
was that third quarter? Store a score to start the
second half right out of the locker room for Casey?
Can you repeat that plague? I'm sorry, it just broke
up a little. It's a little crazy. No, no, no,
And I'm asking, I'm asking way too long of questions
(03:10:17):
for a man that's down on the field. But no,
just for for Kansas City to come out the way
they did in the second half, how big was that? Yeah, No,
you're you're absolutely right, that store just because if you
think about it, the chief offense was hardly at the
field of the first half. The defense had a lot
of biles on so they don't go out and score
that first drive of the second half, it's the ten
(03:10:37):
points deficit and Philly got the ball and they've had
the ball for most of the games. You could see
how it even though it didn't give them the lead,
it was obviously huge. And then he had the maybe
the play that that could have turned their way, but
there was no on the fumble that would end the
ruled at but there was sim we had any dwelling
on that play. I felt like they felt pretty good
(03:10:59):
coming out of the locker room, and I think guys,
I wasn't sure on how good Mahomes was going to
be able to respond, But that run at the night
drive at the beginning of the second half, I think
probably curing a lot of the uh, the doubts that
the NY Chiefs fans may have had or the Chiefs
of themselves and how healthy looks like we're just losing Dan.
(03:11:19):
So thanks to Dan Buyer. He'll be all over our
coverage nights, then the rest of the night tonight, but
all day obviously tomorrow from Arizona on Fox Sports Radio.
I heard him great whenever he said how great is
it going down these Arizona having a good time to
go to Tucson, Dan for the night. You're done to
go have a little party. Go down the tuson give me,
come on, have some fun. We got a lot of
really good tweets. So let's take our final time out
(03:11:41):
before you from Salam and Mark Willard take over. We'll
hit your thoughts on Super Bowl fifty seven and the
now two times Super Bowl champion quarterback of the Kansas
City Chiefs, Patrick Mahomes as the Chiefs beat the Eagles
thirty eight to thirty five. It's Fox Sports Radio, all right,
it's time snap the Chiefs only rushing two on a delay.
(03:12:01):
Clock is gonna be out of time and the past
is going to be on no throne. It's income Plains,
It's income plain everyone. Everyone who claims that Chief's Kingdom
will raise a better ubolt the National Football League Again
for the second time in four seasons, the Lombardi Trophy
(03:12:23):
has a red and gold reflection, a big red reflection
that chase our champions a Super Bowl fifties seven. There
is the legend Holtis that is from the affiliate of
the Kansas City Chiefs Network affiliate one or six five
the Wolf and it's our Progressive Insurance Play of the

save Progressive dot Com. You know, I'm sorry to say
it was I'm you know. I see do you read
on TV doing interviews? The fake Andy Reid looks a
lot more like Andy Reid than Andy Reid does. I
(03:13:06):
want to know that. I was laughing and we we
opened the show tonight, Arnie was talking about how he
got fooled on socially. I don't think you were alone
on that at all, Arnie. I don't think you're alone
all right. Um Kevin writes a couple of quick tweets
before we get out of here. My gosh, where were
the Philadelphia Eagles in the second half? The defense just
(03:13:27):
looked awful and the offensive line couldn't protect Jalen Hurts
And oh yeah, the refs helped the Chiefs. Again. I
hate to say this, but can anyone truly stop the Chiefs? Um? Well,
first of all, that's a that's a whole question for
another show. But the one thing, yes, you can stop
the Chiefs. There's ways to do it, but man, you
gotta be on your best game. Bernie texted me, Bernie Fratto,
(03:13:49):
and he just said, what people were overlooking is that
ball wasn't even catchable. The problem is that landed in
bounds in the end zone. Had it gone out of bounds,
and maybe they don't call that. They weren't calling that
all games. I didn't like they weren't even calling no
pass interference. They called the whole So, I mean, I
agree that that that if it was catchable, it's kind
of irrelevant whenever it comes to that. But but but
(03:14:10):
not not doubting because Bernie's right. I mean, it would
have taken the go go gadget arms and legs to
even make that play, So I I kind of like
the I like that point. Brendan rites Eagles made more
than enough mental airs to get beats. I'm not including
the defensive penalty in that scope because I felt that
defensive holding penalty on the Chief's final drive was on bogus.
(03:14:32):
The receiver wouldn't even come close to catching it. Yeah,
a lot of people that's gonna be I know, you
guys don't want to hear that as the excuse, but
you know what, it happens at the end of the game,
and um, it's a difference between you know, a game
winning field goal or having plenty of time for Philadelphia
to come back with like a minute and a half
and one time out. It's it's all the difference in
the world. By the way, I am very excited for
Brendon and I to ruin your life for the next
(03:14:54):
three weeks with quarterback conversations about what the Raiders are
gonna do. I am so pumped for that. Uh. I
thought this was an interesting one from Colin Restrict, who writes,
did the NFL actually use a brand new type of
grass and turf for the biggest game of this season? Yeah?
You would. I'm sure there were. There had to be
countless amount of tests that went into that, right, you
(03:15:16):
just know it. I thoctually doesn't seem like a lot
of money for um, you know, just one turf for
one game. I I don't understand where you know, did
they go on the cheaper one? Did they call on
the cheap well that's just what it cost. Wow, boy,
that's a good point. Like it had to come in
well over a million whenever all was said done and
(03:15:37):
taking care of it. Roger the Engineer, big time Chiefs fan.
We fought with him NonStop and and he's celebrating tonight.
He writes, the Eagles and Hurts were better than I expected.
Mahomes in the end, makes everyone better and refuses to lose.
That is, to me, Arnie, the sign of greatness. Not
just the stats and the numbers in the wild plays,
(03:15:58):
but he he makes everyone on that team, everyone around
him better. And I mean, it's unbelievable what he's done.
It's just that the only quarterback to win multiple m vps,
multiple Super Bowls, um Tom Brady, Joe Montana, and Patrick Mahomes.
He's only seven years old, so he's gonna win a
few more. Oh my gosh. Even even Rihanna catching some
strays here, Mr Instagram celebrity, she did an awful job.
(03:16:22):
He's with the lips sinking with the live vocals. Later
on We're okay? Was there lip sinking early? And then
all right? Uh, Calbert writs, the cheating Chiefs Oh Ross Fern,
right a rose Fern, excuse me, couch, Sirianni gave the
finger to the chief sideline during the booth review. Did
he do that really and then and then this was
(03:16:45):
really good, you know from Pete. He writes, as a
Steelers fan, I'm very happy for Juju. He does a
lot for the community and has been through a lot
with his injuries. Does Andy Reid now walk away and
Eric being and become head coach? I think so. I
don't think Casey will suffer for it. Mahomes and Read
we're special. Well, I I'm actually sitting here tonight begging
(03:17:05):
Andy Read to retire and go off into the sunset.
You don't want this thing to end poorly, Andy, because
the problem is it's not going to end poorly. They're
not going anywhere. They're never gonna go anywhere until Patrick
Mahomes retires. He's I mean, he was on a bomb
leg tonight. Already know he was on a bad leg,
and he still put up the numbers he did. Literally,
he looked like me trying to shog on his run.
(03:17:26):
He's like hobble along getting down the field, and then
all of a sudden he like crumbles down. And he
still beat one of the best defenses in the NFL
all season long. By the way, that way too early
odds Kansas City Chiefs the favorite for next year at
six to one, followed by the Buffalo Bills and eight
and a half the one, then the Philotaelph Eagles, and
(03:17:48):
the Cincinnati Bagel San Francisco all nine to one. Yeah,
that is big time, man, that's big time. How can
you have the Raiders even with a number. They don't
even have a quarterback right now? I just have the
number right here. One last bit of about Patrick Mahomes
multiple league m vps and final m vps before turning
twenty eight. Patrick Mahomes, Tim Duncan, Bobby or Wayne Gretzky,
(03:18:11):
Mario Lemie. That's it. That's pretty good company. Oh my gosh,
that is absolutely incredible, Arney. I wanted to take a
moment to thank all the editors who gave up their
Super Bowl Sunday to come up here and heads with us.
Uh Crandell's back there with Patrick, Shay got to meet
Brandon and Big Mike was even in here for a
little bit. Ricky as well. Also Bo Benson Eagles fan
had to live it, but pumped pump that I got
(03:18:32):
to meet him finally in person. Chris Perfette as well.
Guess what Steven Sager isn't going anywhere. He's coming up
next with an update. Arnie. Have a great week, Buddy,
my friend, and Joy. We'll see you guys back here
next Sunday night on Fox Sports Radio
