Speaker 1 (00:01):
This is Fox Sports Countdown. We're setting you up for
the sports weekend and covering all the action from the
stadiums to the arenas. This is this is Fox Sports Countdown,
the King of Sports Box. The countdown starts not a
(00:24):
line from the ti iraq dot com Fox Sports Radio studios.
Here's Brian no, Rich Hornberger and Jared Smith.
Speaker 2 (00:32):
Oh, good morning, welcome in here as we start a
new era.
Speaker 3 (00:37):
That's right, rebranded its Countdown. There's no kickoff right now, sadly,
no no.
Speaker 4 (00:44):
Football playing in Finland today. Collegiate football in Finland today.
If you want some, you gotta you gotta line on that.
Speaker 5 (00:51):
I do action. You know what, I'll take thunder. Yeah,
I just have a feelingly Yeah yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
Weather is going to play a big factor today, guys man, Yeah,
you know, and uh listen, not to start off on
a grim foot. But I'm back home in Indiana. My
uncle Jerry passed away earlier this week. Yeah, thank you.
But so when I'm home, I'll go to my mom's house.
And I don't know what it is with her internet,
(01:20):
but it's it's been consistent for quite a while. And
I got to fill in with Jeff Schwartz yesterday on
two pros and it was a little, a little squirrely,
you know, so I had to I had to go
to another spot over here. And uh, I love it
because bo Bo Benz and our trusted producer is like,
look at the scholarly background right there. It's like we
(01:42):
got plash or stuff. Yeah, weaber state graduate over here.
I happen to be wearing a collared shirt cause I
just grabbed something this morning.
Speaker 3 (01:51):
I I look sophisticated, Do I not fellas?
Speaker 6 (01:53):
Huh yeah, yeah, there is uh, there is a regal
quality to Brian know this morning.
Speaker 2 (02:01):
Goodness, gracious, hold, I appreciate that our trusted technical producer
Chris Burffett has something.
Speaker 7 (02:07):
Yeah, Jared, I like the professor no thing. But doctor
No was sitting right there.
Speaker 5 (02:12):
Oh it was yeah, that's our fault.
Speaker 2 (02:15):
That's our fault, James Bond, Right, Doctor, I had teachers
that used to call me that way back in the day.
Speaker 7 (02:22):
Doctor. It was probably a popular movie that was right
around the.
Speaker 2 (02:25):
Time, right yeah maybe yeah, Like all right, so let's
dive in. We'll get to the hoops and all that
good stuff here. Huge game Bama hosting Auburn will break
that one down.
Speaker 3 (02:37):
For sure, and some other of the the goodies.
Speaker 2 (02:39):
But we got to start with the Super Bowl, man,
because that was the last show we did leading up
to the game. And wow, wow, who expected that game
to go the way it did. I don't know anyone,
anybody I heard taking Philly was still like last second
field goal, you know, it's like by just the slimmest
(03:02):
of margins, and you look up and the Eagles had
twenty four points at halftime and the Chiefs had fourteen yards.
If you would have told me that's what would happen,
I'd be like, you don't know football at all.
Speaker 3 (03:15):
There's just no way, And that's exactly what happened.
Speaker 2 (03:18):
I'm just I'm shocked that Mahomes looked drunk in the
first half, Shocked that the Chiefs were as just sloppy
as they were beating themselves. And hats off to Philly men.
They were dominant, especially in that first half. That was
crazy to me.
Speaker 6 (03:33):
There was no answer to the problems that the Eagles
were posing the Kansas City Chiefs, which was basically upfront
on the defensive line. Our guys are better than your guys,
prove us wrong. And throughout the course of the entire game.
The Chiefs did not make the adjustments in their pass
protection to give Mahomes enough time to operate.
Speaker 5 (03:55):
And there are ways to mitigate.
Speaker 6 (03:57):
A great defensive line, and for whatever reason, the Chiefs
didn't make those adjustments. Certainly not soon enough, but not
with any sort of effectiveness they were getting. And when
I say they the tight ends, the offensive lineman, the
running backs were involved in the past protection scheme against
(04:19):
what ultimately was a four sometimes three man rush of
the Philadelphia Eagles.
Speaker 5 (04:25):
They were getting home.
Speaker 6 (04:27):
Almost every single passing play, somebody was putting a hand
on Mahomes.
Speaker 5 (04:32):
Mahomes was running for his life.
Speaker 6 (04:33):
He was trying to get the ball out of his
hands as quickly as possible, causing turnovers. They didn't have
an answer to that problem, and as a result, they
lost the game in hideous fashion.
Speaker 4 (04:45):
Yeah, I think if there was going to be a
blowout in the game, I think we actually discussed it.
Speaker 7 (04:49):
It made more sense on the Eagle side. Yeah, because
of just the way that the Chiefs had played this year.
I don't think they blowed out anyone this year. They
It's just not there. This is not their style.
Speaker 4 (04:59):
The irony is if you actually Now I know this
sounds crazy, but the Chiefs actually won a decent portion
of the box score.
Speaker 7 (05:08):
They won yards per play, they won the success rate.
What did they not win? Turnovers and penalties?
Speaker 2 (05:14):
And did they win first downs? Tell me they won
first downs?
Speaker 5 (05:17):
Oh?
Speaker 7 (05:17):
They the Chiefs did not win first out.
Speaker 3 (05:22):
I thought there was an accounting era that error.
Speaker 4 (05:24):
Right, Yeah, that was one of the bigger bets I
made in the game. But the turnover battle was so
unique because it was like it was like Mahomes was
almost drunk, and my cousin, who's a big you know,
football He's like, did he get concussed? And I was like, well,
I didn't even think about that, because he did kind
of take a big hit early in the game, and
(05:45):
a couple of the throws later in the game were
just so anti Mahomes, like like, you know, the one
to the gene on the pick six was like it
was like he was right there, Like how do you
not see him?
Speaker 7 (05:56):
And you just have to.
Speaker 4 (05:57):
Tip your captains, like there's really nothing more to in
the game other than Philly bludgeon them. And and at
some point Kansas City, I think realized this probably wasn't
going to be our night, and then they got a
little bit desperate. Mahomes probably got a little bit desperate,
a little bit you know, trigger happy with some of
the throws, and he was under drest the entire night.
And and it goes back to two Super Bowls that
(06:19):
I can recall.
Speaker 7 (06:20):
The first one was that first Patriots Giants one where.
Speaker 4 (06:24):
It was just the front four, you minor and straight
hand talking, and it was just it was it was complete,
you know, chaos for Brady in that game. And then
the second one, the other Brady one, where he just
got completely pummeled by the Bucks defensive line or excuse me,
when when the Bucks beat the Chiefs the first game
that Mahomes had a chance and kind of looked bad
(06:45):
in the Super Bowl. So now this is two really
ugly Super Bowl performances for Patrick Mahomes. And yeah, you
just got to credit the front four and the offensive line.
And that's why the trench warfare is a big deal
in this sport, especially in a one game roll of
the dice.
Speaker 2 (06:59):
Well, yeah, and that was the thing, the pick six.
It was ten to nothing at that point and Mahomes
was acting like these are the last this is the
last two minutes of the game and he's got to
make something happen. It's go for broke time. It's like,
it's still the first half. You know, if you have
to punt, not the end of the world. He just
forced one and that did not work out whatsoever. Many
(07:23):
they could not have looked worse. He could not have
looked worse in that first half and the third and three.
Early in the game, Kelsey's wide open and the balls
thrown at his feet.
Speaker 3 (07:33):
I'm like, who is this guy?
Speaker 2 (07:34):
Did you remember the commercial where Tom Brady like fell
asleep and they had to replace the batteries in his forearm. Yeah,
that was mahomes mahomes like and they never replaced his batteries.
That was his performance. And it's funny because we are
on the same page mostly Jared. Where the two Super
(07:56):
Bowls that I thought of immediately? It was the prash
in Super Bowl forty two that the Giants got on
Tom Brady and the Patriots.
Speaker 3 (08:06):
Remember that was before the game. Plexico Burus was like, yeah, I.
Speaker 2 (08:10):
Think we're gonna win twenty three seventeen, and Tom Brady's like,
We're only gonna score seventeen points.
Speaker 3 (08:17):
They scored fourteen.
Speaker 2 (08:19):
You know, like the pressure had a huge impact on
that game. And the other one was Super Bowl fifty
five compared to this last one where Mahomes was just
under duress. The thing was, Mahomes played great against Tampa.
He had Mike Evans miked up on the sideline. He's like,
this guy keeps making place. He's throwing like dimes on
(08:40):
the run falling down. He individually played great. So that's
the thing. Mahomes has faced pressure before, he's faced pass rushes,
he's gotten knocked around before, and he's played great.
Speaker 3 (08:51):
He was freaking terrible last.
Speaker 2 (08:55):
Sunday against Philly Man he had no answers and that's
shocking to me.
Speaker 3 (09:00):
He's a special quarterback, he is.
Speaker 5 (09:02):
And it was shocking.
Speaker 6 (09:04):
And I'll say this about any quarterback when you are
faced with as much pressure as he was faced with
in that game, and the team can still the team
you're facing can still drop eight defenders and seven defenders
and they're not manufacturing that pressure by adding rushers. What
happens is when you throw to those zones that are
(09:24):
typically open, because when you're rushing five, that means you're
dropping six, and when you drop six into coverage, you
have less people to cover more field. But when you
can drop seven, when you can drop eight, all of
a sudden, guys are in spots that you're not expecting
them to be, especially when you're simulating pressure, which is
something that Vic Fangio I tip my cap to him.
(09:46):
There was some confusion. There were times where based on
the pre snap alignment, it looked like the Philadelphia Eagles
were rushing five and six defenders, and all of a sudden,
Mahomes felt pressure.
Speaker 5 (09:58):
So his assumption in times was, oh, they must be
rushing five.
Speaker 6 (10:03):
I know who I'm hot with, which means the receiver
who he throws to.
Speaker 5 (10:07):
If there's a free rusher off of this side, I
know where to go with the ball.
Speaker 6 (10:10):
Well, the problem was based on the protection rules, the
offensive line protection rules. There was a free rusher sometimes,
but the Eagles were only rushing four guys. So you
have seven, you have seven zone droppers. You have safeties
sometimes three of them with their backs to the goalposts
(10:31):
staring down Mahomes. And on that Cooper dejen interception, I mean,
it couldn't have been more easy for him because he
paid attention to his drop depth, he kept his eyes
on Mahomes. He realized he was under pressure, and he
jumped route that he's not supposed to jump in that situation,
but he knew where he was going with.
Speaker 5 (10:50):
The football because he had nowhere else to go.
Speaker 6 (10:53):
When you force good quarterbacks into being predictable, they look
like bad quarterbacks. And that's what vic Fan and Joe's
defense did all night long against Patrick Mahomes.
Speaker 4 (11:04):
Yeah, there was not It wasn't a great game plan.
It wasn't a great change up, like there was no
run game. It was it was a very I don't
want to say boring game, but there was really not
a lot of intrigue after the first half. Like you
just you thought maybe there was a glimmer, like a
door creaked open for Mahomes at one point to make
some kind of insane comeback, But there was really no
(11:26):
moment in the second half either where that gained any
momentum like they had like the Xavier Worthy touchdown, like
they had a couple of moments in the game, but
there was no real momentum towards the comeback. I mean
it was the field was tilted in one direction the
entire night, and you tip your cap toove Philly and
and now we you know, hear all the fallout right
(11:46):
coming into the game. It was the three peat, now
it was now it's the fallout because now it's kind
of funny how the pendulum in our sports media society
just swings like the Chiefs were this jugger. Now people
were lining up in droves to bet the Chiefs because
they thought a the game was rigged and be Mahomes
(12:08):
is god. Now it's like the Chiefs are terrible. Get
them out, throw the baby out with.
Speaker 7 (12:13):
The back ward like it's so crazy. In a minute,
it switches.
Speaker 3 (12:18):
It's such an overreaction. It's ridiculous.
Speaker 1 (12:21):
Man.
Speaker 2 (12:22):
Like we'll get to that a little bit later in
the show because I would like to rant, Oh I
love please.
Speaker 4 (12:28):
Rant for both of us, because that's it's insane. You
would think Mahomes was like like a sub B prime player.
Speaker 7 (12:33):
Now I know he's done. It's over.
Speaker 2 (12:36):
It's turned into like, ah, they're the Texans maybe.
Speaker 3 (12:40):
Going forward, the Jets.
Speaker 2 (12:42):
Come on, it's the Chiefs, it's Mahomes, it's Andy Reid.
Like they're not gonna be what seven and ten team
next season? Like they're gonna be a problem consistently. Yeah,
they've got to upgrade and retool in some areas, but
I thought I just put a bow on the on
this too.
Speaker 3 (13:00):
So far.
Speaker 2 (13:00):
Is what you're saying, Rich, is that's when you see
a defense really working together, meaning the pass rush helping
out the secondary, the secondary helping out the pass rush.
Speaker 3 (13:11):
They're just cooking with grease.
Speaker 2 (13:12):
Because if you think about it, if you look at
the Eagles corners, they have some good corners. You know,
Quinyon Mitchell had a really good rookie season, Cooper Dejen
really good rookie season. You got Darius big Play Sleigh
out there, and they're like, what chiefs receivers are.
Speaker 3 (13:28):
Gonna beat us? Exactly?
Speaker 2 (13:29):
You know, we don't need to double anybody. And then
the pass rush with the front four was getting home.
You're just there were no answers right there, none, And
that's why we got the beatdown we got. It makes
sense after the fact, you can explain it. But going
into the game, if somebody had told you, hey, here's
(13:49):
what's gonna happen, but bob ba, bob, but bob Abo,
you'd be like, you're out of your freaking mind, right,
And that's exactly what happened. All right, We've got Rich Hornberger, Pence,
They all American. Jared Smith FSR betting analyst, I'm Brian No.

rip the band aid off. Here's the repulsive news. Okay,
for the second year in a row, there was an
(15:36):
epic comeback in Rapid Fire and an epic choke job
in Rapid Fire. And unfortunately I was on the good
end last year. I was on the wrong end this
year because I had rich you and I had a
lead on Jared so large you needed binoculars to look
(16:00):
back and be like, what is it? I swear that's
like a rock on the sidewalk, But no, that's Jared.
Speaker 3 (16:09):
Jared's all the way back. He came all the way
back and caught me.
Speaker 2 (16:14):
The last two weeks, we make three picks leading up
to the Super Bowl, and well, I made two college
basketball picks at one one lost because of a three
pointer at the buzzer. My team was up by six
Michigan was up six at Rutgers and they were minus
five and a half. Here comes Rutgers three in your face.
(16:38):
And that led to Jared catching me by half a point,
and so I had.
Speaker 3 (16:43):
This epic collapse.
Speaker 2 (16:45):
Jared was six and oh, shout out to him the
last two weeks, and he caught me by half a point.
And so I have to do the uh, I have
to do the Will Levis with the mayo and the coffee.
Speaker 5 (16:58):
Horrible news, unfortunate. Whenever you plan on doing that, I'll
be right there next to you.
Speaker 7 (17:03):
Yeah, we got years of back block mayo.
Speaker 5 (17:06):
We'll do it.
Speaker 3 (17:08):
I was gonna do it today. I was gonna pay
it off.
Speaker 7 (17:10):
To get it over with. That's why I like you
get it over with.
Speaker 3 (17:14):
Well, we'll plan on next week, Rich, We'll do fantastic. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (17:18):
Can we get a little round of applause by the
by the crew and everyone.
Speaker 7 (17:21):
What's that the you know sound effect for the six
six and oh? Super Bowls? Pretty good? That's pretty good.
Speaker 5 (17:25):
That's pretty good.
Speaker 4 (17:26):
After a terrible year by your boy gambling on these college.
Speaker 2 (17:31):
Games and it's like all these you won, you got
these pretty comfortably. Where your six picks you had Johan
Dotson to have a receiving yard did more.
Speaker 3 (17:43):
Than a couple of nice catches in that game.
Speaker 4 (17:45):
How about that first touchdown co seventy five to one
for first touchdown.
Speaker 2 (17:50):
They got really robbed so close, right, Can you imagine
doing Wood's fist pumps thinking you hit your seventy five.
Speaker 4 (17:56):
To one new one was thinking that, let's review that
down and then the old push push.
Speaker 2 (18:03):
Yeah, oh yeah, uh but yeah, Jared killed it.
Speaker 3 (18:07):
I I did not.
Speaker 2 (18:08):
The funny one one of the Super Bowl bets that
was close was Mahomes over thirty five and a half
passing attempts, and gamescript wise, it couldn't have played out better.
Speaker 7 (18:19):
Yeah, I didn't not get there.
Speaker 2 (18:20):
They're getting crushed in the first half and so it's
just gonna be pass past past past pass in the
second half. And the funny thing was they got the
ball back around midfield late and instead of kind of
like dinking and dunking down the field, he threw the
bomb to Xavier Worthy. It was a one play drive
(18:41):
and he ended with thirty two passing attempts.
Speaker 3 (18:44):
I needed four more, which we were We were close, man,
before halftime.
Speaker 2 (18:49):
If that completion of DeAndre Hopkins occurs right, He's wide open,
nobody is around him, and it wasn't a great throw.
It was certainly not a great catch.
Speaker 3 (19:00):
Tripped over himself. If that ball is completed, we might
have gotten there.
Speaker 2 (19:03):
It's crazy that these props come down to stuff like that,
where it literally could go one direction or the other
based on one little play.
Speaker 7 (19:11):
It's crazy.
Speaker 5 (19:12):
Right here.
Speaker 6 (19:13):
On Fox Sports Radio the Sunday Show, we had an
extended show leading up to Super Bowl fifty nine, and
right before we got off the air for the.
Speaker 5 (19:22):
First touchdown scorer Steve Hartman, he asked me.
Speaker 6 (19:26):
He was like, look, I just got a text from
my kids and my ex wife. They want to know
who's scoring the first cutch sound.
Speaker 4 (19:34):
He's like, I don't know any alimony with the first touchdown, Beton.
Speaker 6 (19:38):
And so he asked me, and I go, look, it's
gonna be Jaellen Hurts with a toush push. I was like,
book it call yeah, And all of a sudden, I'm like, well,
I guess I was wrong. That was a nice grab.
And then all of a sudden they're like, ooh, he's
down by this much. I'm like, oh my goodness. I
was like, toush push activated.
Speaker 5 (19:57):
I love it. It's amazing though, and it's amazing.
Speaker 6 (19:59):
Look when you have a play that automatic, I mean,
credit to the Eagles for making the transition from Kelsey
to oh I'm blanking on his name now, but the
backup center to Kelsey last year.
Speaker 5 (20:13):
Who's become the starter this year? Juriggons, thank you.
Speaker 6 (20:16):
Yeah, Jurgens, Cam Jurgens and Jalen Hurts are on the
same page. That play is just as effective this year
as it was last year. And so I mean the Eagles,
they just have an automatic one or sometimes two yards
in their pocket whenever they need it. That makes games
really really difficult to defend when you're playing against them.
Speaker 4 (20:38):
Yeah, and I think in our recap of the Super
Bowl in our first segment there you know a lot
of obvious negative to Kansas City, and there needs to be.
I mean, they did not play their best game. But
you know now that we can kind of zoom out
a little bit what Howie Roseman's done and what the
Eagles were able to construct. I mean that roster is
just insane, Like it is an absurd roster. What they've
(20:59):
been able to do the way that they I don't
want to say they're cheating, but like the manipulation of
the salary cap with how they kind of extend contracts
and kind of make things a little bit more palatable
to bring in some of these star players on you know,
unique deals. I don't even know how it works half
the time, but Howie Roseman figured out a way to
kind of get all of these pieces together. And the
trenches are just insane, like the fact that Philly can
(21:21):
just continue to own the line of scrimmage with what
they're able to do defensively. And then of course the
tush push and the offensive line which is just in
like my Lotta and and and Johnson, like they're just
ridiculously athletic tackles. And I don't know if they're gonna
to keep all these guys together. But Howie Roseman, he
heard he took a little knock yesterday on the head
(21:43):
during the parade.
Speaker 3 (21:43):
I hope he's okay, Ali, I hope all right, But.
Speaker 7 (21:46):
I don't go to the hospital the stitches or something.
Speaker 4 (21:48):
But just you know, tip of the cap to him,
because that roster physically dominated the football game, and I
think all year long they were two and two.
Speaker 7 (21:57):
They were a two and two football team.
Speaker 4 (21:59):
They were going through some iss with Fangio and the defense,
getting that defense to kind of come together.
Speaker 7 (22:03):
But man, did they really turn it on.
Speaker 4 (22:05):
And it was It's a testament to everyone in that
front office and you know, the you know, the staff
that that that scouts, the personnel. I mean, they really
are doing it at a different level right now with
their with their with their front office.
Speaker 3 (22:17):
It's officially a Philly party.
Speaker 2 (22:19):
If the GM gets smacked in the forehead by a beer,
can you know, it's awesome.
Speaker 3 (22:24):
Yeah, he took one for the team right there.
Speaker 2 (22:27):
And that's the last thing I'll say real quick and
we'll get to the college hoops is. It blows my
mind that Philly was that dominant and Saquon Barkley didn't
do that much at all. Think about that right Like
he was bottled up running the ball. He had a
nice catch down the sideline near the goal line. He
made his presence known in the passing game a bit,
(22:47):
but he's under sixty yards rushing. The Chiefs take that
all day, you know, and the Chiefs were still nowhere close.
That's that's wild. It played out that way. Let's get
to this. It reminds me of college football. You know,
you'll notice a consistent theme as we transition more to
like basketball season, football finds its way in somehow, some way. Right,
(23:10):
we've got number one Auburn against number two Alabama. It
reminds me of the old school nineteen ninety three Game
of the Century, right, Florida State against Notre Dame, number
one versus number two?
Speaker 3 (23:22):
Does that not remind you of this?
Speaker 2 (23:23):
Huh one versus Maybe it's just me, I don't know,
But how about these offenses here?
Speaker 3 (23:28):
You've got the number one and number.
Speaker 2 (23:30):
Two teams in offensive efficiency and eighty points scored in
college hoops? Pretty good. Auburn has done it eighteen times
this season. Alabama has done it twenty one times this
season where they've cracked eighty. That's the best in Division One.
And look, man, I expect a lot of points today.
(23:51):
I'm surprised that total hasn't moved a whole lot. It
is high, man, it's what one seventy one and a half?
One seventy two and a half, And by I expect
points here. I don't know if the rest of the
betting community is. But what do you guys see? Initially,
Rich will start with you. It's one seventy two and
a half at bet MGM. Yeah, give me the over.
(24:11):
This is going to be a track meet.
Speaker 6 (24:13):
These are two teams that can run the floor extremely well,
high tempo teams, great offenses obviously just mentioned. I mean
kem Palm has them one and two, and I think
Alabama's interior defense, you know, their rim protector may force
this game into the perimeter a little bit, which Auburn
(24:35):
would be happy to oblige. I mean, they're devastating from perimeter,
and it could it could be one of those games
where it's a race to one hundred, you know what
I mean, which whichever one of these two teams eclipses
triple digits first is going to be the one that
takes home the win.
Speaker 5 (24:53):
Plus NATO's Brute Pearl.
Speaker 6 (24:55):
They face each other six times, four of those games
hit overs hit, so I mean that's that's a part
of this too. These these are these are coaches who
have devised game plans and teams and rosters that have
benefited the over in the past. So I think it's
gonna soar past that number.
Speaker 5 (25:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (25:17):
The two keys in this game one Bama limiting turnovers
that's been there Bugaboo this.
Speaker 7 (25:21):
Year, very helter skelter team.
Speaker 4 (25:23):
When they're on they are elite, but they can get
a little sloppy with the basketball. Auburn is a good
defensive team. They has size, so I think that's a
key to the game. And and Rich nailed it, like the
Auburn shooters are gonna get open looked because you would imagine,
and we'll see how Natos plays it, but you would
imagine the game plan is crash the glass, do not
allow Broom to be.
Speaker 7 (25:42):
A dominant for us, which he is.
Speaker 4 (25:43):
He might be the best player in college basketball this year,
which means is gonna be a lot of open threes, right,
a lot of kickouts. You got Denver Jones, Miles Kelly,
Cheney Johnson, those are the three shooters for Auburn that
if they can step up right and this is not
an easy environment. You're on the road in the sec
raucus one versus two, So can you make those shots?
They will be open shots. That's actually been the issue
for Auburn this year. They're a good scoring team, but
(26:05):
they're not a great shooting team straight up outside the
top fifty and open three rate this year, So when
they get open threes, they don't make them, and I
think that's going to be, to me, the biggest key
in this game, because I do think the Bama defense
will crash. Bama has bodies they can throw at Broom.
You got Diabate six to seven, he can guard all
five spots. You got the Omiyori, who's the Rutgers transfer
(26:25):
who is an absolute monster.
Speaker 7 (26:27):
I don't know if Grant Nelson's that guy.
Speaker 4 (26:29):
He's a little more wiry, but that's another body that
will see how Nato to utilizes them.
Speaker 7 (26:35):
Auburn is a very experienced team, the oldest team in
the SEC.
Speaker 4 (26:38):
They've got twenty four to twenty five year old men
on this roster, so I don't expect them to be
afraid of the moment. But again, that SEC environment is different,
and you do have the return matchup coming up.
Speaker 5 (26:50):
Final game of.
Speaker 4 (26:50):
The regular season at Auburn and BAMA schedule over the
next two weeks is like ridiculous. They have the toughest
schedule in college basketball down the stretch. The SEC is
a behemoth, so I think BAM at home gets it done.
But this is a toss up game. If Auburn makes
their threes and forces some turnovers.
Speaker 7 (27:06):
I think they will.
Speaker 4 (27:07):
They will win, but I think Auburn won't make as
many open shots because Bama does have the home the
home core.
Speaker 2 (27:14):
Yeah, I'm curious about that because look, man, Auburn's offense.
It's funny, right, I think Alabama gets way more credit
offensively than Auburn does, even though they're pretty close.
Speaker 3 (27:25):
You remember the old sky I don't know if they
write them anymore.
Speaker 2 (27:27):
On your like side mirrors where it's like objects are
closer than they appear.
Speaker 3 (27:31):
Like they should still write that, shouldn't they They should
just have.
Speaker 4 (27:37):
The stuff on the line been replaced by the little
you know, yellow triangle where like someone's in your blind
spot right now.
Speaker 3 (27:44):
But it used to say that, like objects.
Speaker 2 (27:46):
Are closer in your mirror than they appear, and or
something like that. And I think that Auburn is closer
offensively to Alabama's offense. Then they get credit for Auburn
as a really really good offense. And I hear you, Jared,
it's can they knock down threes? Especially when they get
open looks? I think it's it's sometimes demoralizing, especially in
(28:10):
college hoops, where you move the ball well, you set
up a wide open three point shot and sometimes it's
nowhere close, you know what I mean. Like, so that's
gonna be a test today for Auburn. I'm curious if
they can knock down threes in general, but especially open threes,
and they're gonna get a lot of good.
Speaker 3 (28:27):
Quality just open threes.
Speaker 2 (28:30):
You're warming up in the gym by yourself basically, you know,
can you hit those consistently? And that's gonna be a
big part of the game because, hey man, you can
talk to me about defense wins championships all you want,
but in a game like this, you gotta put up
some points or you're gonna lose, right like no.
Speaker 6 (28:47):
Doubt, There's no doubt, And Auburn hitting those threes is
gonna be important because, as Jared mentioned, Johnny Broom in
the paint has been electric to start the season, Player
of the year's stuff. However, after the mid January ankle
injury when he came back, he hasn't been as effective
hitting those two pointers that he really started to gain
(29:10):
national acclaim for. So if it does become that type
of game where Alabama's defenders are starting to sneak out
toward the three point line, they need to be able
to rely on Broom to be more effective than he
has been in the very recent past. But look, these
are huge games, a huge road game. It's a rivalry game.
(29:31):
You know, whatever it is, ankle, knee, you just the
pain fades for the hour and a half you're on
the court for He's an electric player.
Speaker 5 (29:40):
I think he gets the job done.
Speaker 6 (29:41):
But that's gonna be a key to If he looks
like he's limping or hobbling at all, or if he
rolls that ankle again, it could be.
Speaker 5 (29:48):
A problem for Auburn.
Speaker 4 (29:49):
And that's why I think Bama's going to be very
physical and force him to give it up. Like I
think they are going to throw bodies at him consistently,
and Bama has a deep enough roster to do it.
That's why I think I like Bama in the game
is because I think they just have one or two extra.
Speaker 7 (30:05):
Game like this. Again, it's a coin flip game.
Speaker 4 (30:07):
The numbers moved a little bit, but it's essentially Bama's
getting there.
Speaker 7 (30:11):
Two to two three points for being at home, and
this is a coin flip game.
Speaker 4 (30:14):
I actually think the fact that it's under three tells
me that on a neutral Auburn probably would be favored,
and I think that makes sense because I do think
Auburn is a little bit more consistent. But the one
thing I've noticed, not only this year but recently, the
home atmospheres in these high major gyms are just absurd.
They are frenzied, and I think that makes the difference
(30:35):
in this game because there's not a lot separating these
two teams. I think the two things that separates a
the home atmosphere and be the fact that Auburn still
has the home game left at the end of the year.
So if this does get a little like if, for example,
if Broom does get a little gimpy, hey we've got
a lot of you know, runway left in the year.
So I do think Bama is just a nose in
(30:58):
front in this game. I think I'll betting them at
one and a half.
Speaker 2 (31:00):
You know what's crazy is two thoughts this matchup today,
Auburn at Alabama. It does remind me a bit earlier
in the season where it was Bama at Kentucky and
it was just a track meet that whole game, especially
the first half. But there was a healthy stretch of
that first half where neither team was hitting threes and
(31:22):
it's still soared way over like I remember, because it
was just the pace and they hit enough threes where
it went over the first half total. And maybe you
see something similar in the matchup tonight, where especially early
on first half, maybe you're not hitting threes at a
great rate, but just the pace and the overall scoring,
(31:43):
you're still seeing a healthy amount of scoring. And Jared,
when you're talking about the point spread fluctuating a little bit,
it's been Bama minus one and a half, Bama minus
two and a half. It's kind of gone up and
down there. It reminds me of last night. So it
was Indiana hosting La Ucla was favored by a point
and a half than right before tip off, they're favored
(32:06):
by two and a half. And as fate would have it, right,
you had IU down four at the very end of
the game, they're like four seconds left, they're down by four.
They throw a half court pass. Guy chucks it at
half court, not even close, but it hits the backboard
and an IU player gets the rebound and lays it
(32:26):
in at the buzzer. Ucla wins by two. So think
about that minus one and a half Bruins minus two
and a half Bruins. Depending on when you got it,
it made all the difference in the world, and.
Speaker 7 (32:40):
Just bet the money line.
Speaker 2 (32:42):
You might be looking at something similar with Bama fluctuating
between one and a half two and a half.
Speaker 3 (32:47):
It's something to keep in mind.
Speaker 6 (32:49):
I know, I like the total here so much better
because of that, because I do think it's going to
be a track. Mean, I do think the three point
line is going to play a factor in this one.
So it's much more co uzy game watching the number
instead of watching the spread. But if you want a
good sweat, uh yeah, I think my leen's Alabama.
Speaker 5 (33:08):
I'll say this about Auburn, more battle.
Speaker 6 (33:11):
Tested, least amount of losses against the toughest schedule in
the country. That tells you all you need to know Alabama.
They haven't been as tested, but still a great team
and they can push the tempo.
Speaker 5 (33:25):
So we're in for a great game.
Speaker 2 (33:28):
Absolutely we are. That's Rich Herenberger, Penn State All American.
Jared Smith with us FSR betting analyst, I'm Brian no.

Speaker 3 (33:56):
I hear right, little love theme going going on.
Speaker 2 (34:00):
It is Fox Sports Radios Countdown presented by BEDMGM. It
is Fox Sports Radios Countdown presented by BEDMGM. On Fridays, BETMGM,
authorized gaming operator of the NBA, is making first field
goal scorer wagers more exciting with second Chance.
Speaker 3 (34:17):
What second chance?
Speaker 5 (34:19):
Well?
Speaker 2 (34:19):
Ever, bet on your favorite player to score the first
field goal only to see him make an assist to
his teammate for an easy layup.
Speaker 5 (34:26):
Not good? Well?
Speaker 2 (34:28):
With BETMGM second Chance, you'll get your stake back in
cash if your first field goal scorer score second instead
of first.
Speaker 3 (34:35):
All right, let's do this.
Speaker 1 (34:38):
Check this out far late letter?
Speaker 7 (34:42):
Okay, Wow?
Speaker 2 (34:42):
All right, new imaging with a little you know, buzzer beater.
Speaker 3 (34:46):
At the end right there? How about that?
Speaker 5 (34:47):
All right?
Speaker 3 (34:48):
Jared Smith? What do you have for us today?
Speaker 5 (34:49):
Buddy? Oh?
Speaker 4 (34:50):
It's moneyline parlay time in college basketball, and.
Speaker 7 (34:54):
Y'all are talking about Alabama Auburn.
Speaker 4 (34:57):
I'm talking about North Alabama against Jacksonville.
Speaker 7 (35:01):
That's the real game of the day. Guys, Come on people.
North Alabama is an absolute wagon.
Speaker 4 (35:05):
In the Atlantic Sun. They're a six and a half
point home favor. Today we're gonna put them on the
money line. First leg of the parlay. North dal has
only lost one home game all year. That was back
in November to Samford. They forced turnovers. They're a beast
on the glass. I think they get it done against Jacksonville.
Second leg of the money line parlay, Grand Canyon against U. T.
Speaker 7 (35:23):
Arlington. Come out with bringing out all the big guns
for this one. Early the looks are legit, guys. They
are a seven and a half point road fave in
this game. They were a top sixty team over the
last month.
Speaker 4 (35:32):
Remember they won a game in the tourney last year
and they played Pamatov in the round of thirty two.
Very experienced lineup Tyan Grant Foster. He's an NBA caliber player.
They're long and strong defensively.
Speaker 7 (35:42):
Don't love U. T. Arlington.
Speaker 4 (35:44):
They're coming off an ot win over cal Baptist where
they trailed by seventeen in the second half.
Speaker 7 (35:48):
Crazy comeback.
Speaker 5 (35:49):
I was actually on U T.
Speaker 7 (35:50):
Arlington in that game.
Speaker 4 (35:51):
I think they dropped this one though, So we'll put
Grand Canyon on the money line for leg number two.
Speaker 7 (35:55):
Leg number three, I'll give you a big.
Speaker 4 (35:57):
Kind of game here. Texas at home again Kentucky. So
how about this pranked Kentucky on the road against.
Speaker 7 (36:03):
Texas, who's four and eight in conference play. Guess who's favorite.
Speaker 4 (36:07):
It's the home team that has only won four SEC
games all year. Again, that unranked home team. We love
that vibe when they are favorite. So we'll put Texas
on the money line. Kentucky dealing with some injuries right now.
They might be without Lamont Butler, their fifth year senior.
Came over from San Diego State and had a great
run to the Final four with the AS Techs. He's
a little bit banged up. Texas has the leading scorer
(36:29):
in the SEC, trade Johnson. This kid is an absolute
rock star. The complimentary pieces around him are fantastic. Scheddrick
in the middle. You got Kolumba, the trans from k State.
He's the four man, and I really like the point
guard Julian Larry very good points plus assists per possession.
Speaker 8 (36:42):
Guy.
Speaker 4 (36:43):
So Texas, Grand Canyon and North Alabama, Not Alabama, North
Alabama all on the money line plus one eighty four
over at Bett MGM.
Speaker 6 (36:54):
Yeah, Texas, how about that Texas coming off of that
loss to Alabama.
Speaker 5 (37:00):
But they've lost three straight so.
Speaker 6 (37:01):
You're counting on the bounce back here and that Alabama game.
Going back to what we were talking about, because big
one against Auburn today, Alabama was on fire from the
free three point line.
Speaker 5 (37:11):
So I like that.
Speaker 6 (37:12):
I like Texas over Kentucky. They're gonna get back off
the Schneid.
Speaker 7 (37:17):
Off to Schneid.
Speaker 4 (37:17):
Anytime I have teams backs against the wall and they're
fevered in a home game against a team that's ranked
and the team that's favored is not good, it's like right,
you know, it's like those red flag the alarms go off.
Speaker 7 (37:29):
Oh take a look at this game.
Speaker 2 (37:31):
Oh yeah, it's the old I always hear the price
is right thing in my own where it's like right,
right right, when you went to both showk showdowns right there?
Oh yeah, what do you have to be within like
ten dollars? It's ridiculous when you want a full showcase showdowns.
But that's the noise I hear in my head. You're
right it's uh man, the team that's lost three straight
(37:52):
games unranked and favored over the ranked team.
Speaker 7 (37:56):
It's like, yeah, wait, wait on.
Speaker 4 (37:57):
Kentucky's dealing with so many injuries right now, and we
haven't talked a lot about Kentucky this year. They've had
a pretty good season all things considered, with Pope in
his first year.
Speaker 7 (38:05):
But it just feels like this is a tough spot.
Those home environments in the SEC are really tough, really
tough to overcome.
Speaker 2 (38:12):
Yeah, man, and I'll tell you props to you for
going random on a full slate Saturday.
Speaker 3 (38:17):
You know, this almost sounds like a Friday parlay.
Speaker 4 (38:20):
Last Alabama team I love so the two teams you're
gonna be hearing me bet on a lot down the
stretch North Alabama and Grand Canyons.
Speaker 7 (38:27):
I love these two teams.
Speaker 5 (38:28):
The Antelopes, man, they they're sneaky.
Speaker 6 (38:31):
They they are one of those teams where you don't
pay attention, Like you said, all of a sudden, they
show up in March and they could be dangerous to
teams that they face in the early rounds.
Speaker 5 (38:40):
Round the sixty four, round the thirty two. Yeah, oh,
I do.
Speaker 4 (38:43):
Not want to face Grand Canyon and I'll be honest,
this conference is really fun. So the Whack they play
their turn A lot of teams play a lot of
conference to play their tournaments here in Vegas, but they
have an unbelievable hashtag for their tournament, hashtag Whack Vegas.
Speaker 7 (38:57):
I mean, it does not get any better than that.
Speaker 5 (38:59):
The tournament.
Speaker 4 (39:00):
It was nuts last year. Remember last year some guy
got like pegged with a ball, like you got like
like absolutely punted because it was like an out, like
you know, the game got crazy late and I got
absolutely It was a fun tournament last year here in Vegas.
Speaker 5 (39:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (39:12):
Man, some of these like random matchups, they're great games.
Speaker 5 (39:17):
You know.
Speaker 2 (39:17):
I wasn't watching the game, but I was following all
the scores. I don't know what I was doing last night.
I was point A to point B or I don't
know what was going on, but uh, I was keeping
tabs of Marist at Siena.
Speaker 5 (39:29):
I think it was.
Speaker 3 (39:29):
Yeah, Sienna had a big lead, They're up twenty something.
Speaker 2 (39:32):
They lost the game out right. I'm like, look at Marist,
look at the Red Foxes coming back.
Speaker 4 (39:36):
The lead is ever safe in college basketball again. I
was on that cow Baptist ut Arlington game on Thursday.
It was an afternoon game at at UT Arlington. They
were down seventeen in the second half all of a sudden,
like completely left for dead, and then all of a sudden,
it's the game's in overtime.
Speaker 7 (39:52):
Yeah, like okay, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2 (39:54):
No, Hey, listen, man, sometimes these random matchups are your friend.
You don't have to go big game hunting number one
versus number two. You can find value a.
Speaker 3 (40:02):
Lot of different places.
Speaker 7 (40:03):
Because nobody find more value, nobody.
Speaker 4 (40:05):
Bets some the numbers don't move as much as a
softer market, I think the mid major games and we
hear you know, I mean, that's why we have Shameless
on all the time, with the shame of special like
he's he's made a name for himself with him.
Speaker 7 (40:15):
That's where you really, that's where I love that.
Speaker 3 (40:17):
In college oops, yeah, no doubt.
Speaker 2 (40:19):
All right, we'll have more college hoops for you coming
up throughout the show, some more intriguing matchups. Houston at
Arizona is a good one. We'll get into that here
as we go along. Also, coming up, the name is
way bigger than the game right now, we'll have details.
Oh welcome in. I hope your morning is off to
a great start. Hey, we do have to mention some
(40:42):
ball over here in between all the basketball chatter. But
Aaron Rodgers, he was let go by the Jets officially,
Jets informed Aaron Rodgers that they are moving in a
different direction, and uh, what's next for Rogers? If any
Here's a legitimate question, and it might vary team by team,
(41:04):
but would you rather have Sam Donald or Aaron Rodgers
right now? Like, that's a legitimate question based on the
age the last season that both of them had.
Speaker 3 (41:17):
Does it vary from team to team for you?
Speaker 2 (41:19):
For instance, if you're the Raiders, why would you want
Aaron Rodgers over Sam Donald. I'm not doing backflips for
Sam Donald, but he's way younger than Rogers. Where are
you going with Rogers in one year? With the roster
you have, You're going nowhere? If you're the Steelers, maybe
you'd go with Rogers thinking you have a playoff ready
(41:43):
type type team type roster and.
Speaker 3 (41:46):
You make a run for it. Maybe it varies, does
it very for you?
Speaker 5 (41:49):
Rich?
Speaker 2 (41:50):
If you go team by team, would you rather have
Sam Donald or Aaron Rodgers as your quarterback?
Speaker 6 (41:55):
It's a good question that I haven't committed a lot
of thought to if I were to think team by team,
But I have committed some thought to, like QB comparisons,
guys who are presumed to be available or are available,
And both Donald and Aaron Rodgers were presumed and now
are available. So I have thought about which one makes
(42:16):
a better fit with most of these teams. And every
single time I spin the wheel at lands on Donald,
because Aaron Rodgers, as talented as he is, you are
right now gauging your potential success on just that his
potential because he has not played to his potential in
literally years. Sam Darnald, you can make the same argument.
(42:40):
But he's coming off of the strongest season of his career,
So look, is he as veteran of talent as Aaron.
Speaker 5 (42:47):
No.
Speaker 6 (42:49):
Has he been a leader deep into the postseason like
Aaron has been in the past.
Speaker 5 (42:55):
No, But also Aaron Rodgers hasn't done that in a
long time.
Speaker 6 (42:59):
And so you're you're really taking a flyer out on
both of them. One of them is probably going to
be less experience expensive, that's Aaron, but also has a
a a nearer expiration date. Donald is going to be
more expensive. But if it works out, you may have
yourself a franchise quarterback potentially, So I I mean, if
(43:21):
we're rating it on potential alone, and where I see
the arrow pointing for these two quarterbacks, I think for
the majority of teams, I think Sam Donald's the better,
safer choice.
Speaker 4 (43:34):
Yeah, the tag on Donald will be like forty mil So,
the Vikings will obviously you know he's gone, and he'll
be he'll be in the wild and anyone can sign
him and be in the wilder like in the wild,
and you'll you'll see what his fair market value really is.
Whereas Aaron Rodgers is a lot like Russell Wilson last year,
(43:55):
where you know the Jets are going to pick up
the tab and someone else is going to get a
really cheap discount, really cheat So you're gonna see a
lot of teams that are going to be very excited
to try to sign Rogers and get him on the team.
I think that at Pittsburgh makes sense. Vegas makes a
lot of sense at Aaron. I don't know if you're listening.
(44:17):
The plant medicine out here.
Speaker 7 (44:18):
In Vegas is fantastic.
Speaker 4 (44:20):
Don't ask me how I know, but we know Aaron's
a big ayahuasca guy.
Speaker 7 (44:24):
I'm telling you, this is the spot for it. Aaron,
come out to Vegas. It's fantastic out here.
Speaker 4 (44:28):
No, there's a lot of positives I think with the
Vegas situation as well, because of the defense, and really
like as a Jets fan speaking objectively here, Aaron was
not the problem last year. Now do I love the
fact that he was a content creator first quarterback second, No,
But Aaron Rodgers was not the issue with the Jets
last year. He was not the reason that they just
(44:50):
completely fell off a cliff. I think there's one good
year of football left in Aaron's arm, and it's all
about finding the right situation, the right culture.
Speaker 7 (44:59):
He needs to go to an established culture.
Speaker 4 (45:01):
He needs to go to a place where his quirkiness
is a little bit more appreciated and accepted.
Speaker 7 (45:08):
Whereas the Jets, they expected.
Speaker 4 (45:09):
Him to be the leader, and I just don't think
he's that guy at this stage of his career.
Speaker 7 (45:14):
I think he's a guy that needs to come into it.
Speaker 4 (45:15):
He needs the parachute into an established spot with an
established culture. He needs to play his best year of
football and then he'll probably move on. But I would
be surprised if it's not either Pittsburgh or Vegas.
Speaker 2 (45:27):
Well he was better down the stretch the last ten games,
who were a lot better than the first seven games
for Rogers. Where you look at the first seven games,
it's like ten touchdowns to seven picks, that's not what
you're looking for. The last ten games, eighteen touchdowns to
four picks, that's that's better.
Speaker 3 (45:46):
That's better.
Speaker 2 (45:46):
So I think that some of this is viewed a
little bit too negatively because the expectations were so high,
right it was, oh, you got Rogers and a real
defense man, that they could be a real player come
playoff time, and they weren't even sniffing the playoffs five
and twelve, you know, And a lot of that does
(46:07):
fall on Rogers' shoulders. But if you look at, to
Jared's point, just individually what his numbers were, his numbers
might be better than you thought, just.
Speaker 3 (46:18):
Based on how high the expectations.
Speaker 2 (46:21):
Were, how low the results were team wise, and you're like, man,
did Rogers throwing more picks than touchdowns?
Speaker 5 (46:27):
You know what I mean?
Speaker 2 (46:28):
It just feels like the individual production was actually worse
than it really was. But with all that being said,
you got a high maintenance quarterback that you have to
ask yourself, is it really worth getting into business with
this guy at this stage of his career. I just
I don't get the Raiders thing at all. That roster
is nowhere near competing. What in the AFC West with
(46:51):
the Chiefs, the Chargers, even Denver was a playoff team.
Speaker 3 (46:55):
What are the Raiders doing with Rogers? They're doing nothing.
Speaker 2 (46:59):
Don't know why he would say yes, other than just
to get a pay check and stay relevant where he
goes on shows and he's an active quarterback instead of retired.
Other than that, they're not winning anything nothing with the
Raiders this next season.
Speaker 6 (47:13):
I also think that Aaron's gonna be choosy. I think
that there's a possibility that maybe he even takes a
gap year because the right team, with the right situation
didn't look to sign Aaron Rodgers. I could see that too,
and we've seen that in the past. Look guys have
been you know, retired or have been out of the
(47:35):
league and they've been called back into action and they've
had success. Look at Joe Flacco, you know, with the
with the Cleveland Browns. He led them last season, not
this past season, but the twenty twenty three season into
the twenty twenty five or twenty twenty four season, into
the twenty twenty three season, into the twenty twenty four playoffs.
Speaker 5 (47:59):
With the Cleveland Brown.
Speaker 6 (48:00):
You know, he was called off the lazy boy, he
was on the recliner, and he got back out there.
So even if it's a situation where Rodgers is out
of football, it's possible that he could make a return
if the right situation comes up and he's at the
point in his career where he can be choosy. But
I agree with what you said, Brian. When you sign
Aaron Rodgers, you onboard some problems. There's issues with his
(48:29):
the freedom that he has as an elder statement in
this league, and that's something you're not gonna have to
deal with with Sam Donald. Sam Donald is way more
controllable because even though he'll be one of one of
the higher paid quarterbacks in the league this upcoming season,
he still has a ton to prove. Aaron Rodgers is
(48:52):
I mean miles down that road, and in fact, I
feel like he's going to flip the paradigm. I think
there's gonna be a team or teams out there who
are interested in him, who don't have who don't have
enough to prove to Aaron in order for him to
sign with them.
Speaker 4 (49:08):
Yeah, it was weird because Diana Rassini reported that there
were these stipulations that the Jets gave him. You can't
appear on the McAfee show, you have to show up
the mandatory mini camp and all the you know, the
little things that a lot of veterans get a pass
on these days if they, you know, they have a
legit excuse. And then Ian Rapport came on NFL network
(49:29):
and said that wasn't true, and both parties just decided
to part ways. So there's been a little bit of confusion,
I guess, and I don't. I honestly don't know which
of those.
Speaker 7 (49:39):
Two stories is true. They both are very credible reporters.
Speaker 4 (49:44):
But my guess is there were probably conversations about that,
and that was a part of it, but maybe not
the full part of it, and both parties just kind
of wanted to move on from each other. But my
guess is, you know, to kind of tie a bow
on why would he go to Vegas. Vegas probably would
let him do those things, and they probably wouldn't care,
you know, like that's so it might be the freedom
(50:07):
that he is entitled to as a veteran that maybe
a new culture like Aaron Glenn won't tolerate. But Pete Carroll,
who's a little bit more of a player's coach, not
trying to you know, get into his first head coaching
job in Ruffle Feathers, like Aaron Glenn's really trying to
pull the reins back in and really grab this Jets
locker room, whereas Pete Carroll, I think is I would assume,
(50:29):
I don't know, I would assume we'll have a little
bit more hands off, lase fair approach to the Raiders
locker room might allow him some freedoms. And let's be honest,
if he goes to Pittsburgh, I would say Mike Tomlins
more on the Aaron Glenn's side of the aisle with Hey,
I'm gonna grab this locker room by the horns, and
this is my locker room, and we're going to control
the culture here in Pittsburgh. So that might be a
(50:52):
deciding factor for where Aaron goes. Where does he have
the most freedom, Where can he be the most energetic
healing you know, iahwa Skill like I think the free
spirit that he is might fit Vegas.
Speaker 7 (51:04):
Based off of that vibe.
Speaker 3 (51:05):
No, I hear you. It makes sense what you're saying.
Speaker 2 (51:08):
The only thing that keeps me from the Raiders is
we're guessing what Aaron Rodgers really wants at this point.
And granted that can be, you know, an adventure what
he wants exactly, but I would assume that if you're like, hey, Rogers,
do you want to sign up for five.
Speaker 3 (51:26):
And twelve again? What do you think buddy?
Speaker 2 (51:28):
He's like, yeah, no, I've had my fair share of
five and twelve?
Speaker 3 (51:32):
Thank you?
Speaker 8 (51:32):
Right?
Speaker 2 (51:33):
Like, does he really want to run it back with
a similar season and a similar lack of team success
than what he just experienced with the Jets? That's what
you're signing up for with the Raiders. Best case scenario,
you're like seven and ten, Like literally that would be
like pie in the sky is we're inching toward five hundred?
Speaker 4 (51:52):
Do you think he really cares that much about winning
another Super Bowl? Honestly, Like, deep down in his gut.
Speaker 3 (51:57):
I think he cares about winning.
Speaker 2 (51:59):
I don't know, like priority wise super Bowl versus I
want to do this and I want to go here
and I want to have the freedom that it's Aaron
Rodgers we're talking about. So I don't know how his
list exactly breaks down, but I think what rich said
makes more sense where if I'm Rogers, I would rather
(52:20):
just be a free agent.
Speaker 3 (52:22):
And granted, it's not the best case.
Speaker 2 (52:24):
Scenario where you're waiting for a better situation if a
quarterback goes down, Like think about the Cowboys last season
when Dak went down. If they had a legitimate record
and they're like, hey, let's give Rogers a call here,
I'd much rather go to.
Speaker 3 (52:38):
A roster like that than the Raiders.
Speaker 2 (52:41):
You know, I don't want to sign up with the
Raiders day one and be their quarterback. I would rather
keep my options open if it was down to those
two options.
Speaker 6 (52:49):
Yeah, it could be a situation where I mean, look,
JJ McCarthy, he gets injured in training camp, Sam Darnold
works out, But I mean, obviously they're they're pushing their
chips in the middle of the table with McCarthy and
Darnold is going to be a quarterback for someone else.
Speaker 5 (53:08):
What if that knee isn't right or what if what if?
What if? And I'm not just focusing.
Speaker 6 (53:13):
On McCarthy, but any of these quarterbacks we see.
Speaker 5 (53:16):
Injuries all the time.
Speaker 6 (53:18):
So if the right move doesn't avail itself to Rogers immediately,
I think the waiting game and a little patience could
behoove him. And even if that means, hey, I'm gonna
skip a season all together, I'm gonna do the media circuit.
Maybe I'm gonna co host some shows, just like you know,
Bill Belichick took a gap year before taking the UNC job,
(53:41):
or Pete Carroll was, you know, an adjunct professor at
USC before.
Speaker 5 (53:46):
Taking the Vegas Raiders job.
Speaker 6 (53:47):
As coaches, you know, when you're an elder statesman and
you have a name like Carol or Belichick or in
the quarterback Realm Rogers, it always feels like there's gonna
be a seat at the table for you. It's just
a matter of where and what the situation looks like
and if you think it benefits you. So I could
see this story carrying on for a long time.
Speaker 5 (54:10):
And by the way, wouldn't Aaron Rodgers like that?
Speaker 6 (54:14):
Because his name ends up in the media a lot,
and I think it's by design. I think he likes
to inject himself into the conversation. He likes having narratives
swirling around him and this would be another narrative like, Wow,
Aaron Rodgers went on went unsigned, Where does he go next?
(54:36):
You know, dot dot Dodd stay tuned. It's it's just
a way to feed that cycle.
Speaker 7 (54:42):
I think the key in this.
Speaker 4 (54:43):
Quarterback classes is Stafford and what the Rams decide to do.
I think that will flick the domino and start to
put the wheels in motion for where everything else pans out,
because that's to me, that's the most intriguing. I mean,
if you're a team looking for a quarterback one year
(55:03):
bridge quarterback.
Speaker 7 (55:05):
That's the guy I want.
Speaker 4 (55:06):
That's the guy who has already proven in his first
year with a new team he can go to a
super Bowl. And I think that is the If there's
one team that can really set the tone for the
free agency the off season in the NFL, it's the
Rams and how they decide, and not only Stafford but
cup I mean, imagine, imagine how quickly you can turn
(55:28):
and the Commanders did it last year right now.
Speaker 7 (55:30):
They did it through the draft and building.
Speaker 4 (55:32):
I would say the right way, but you can see
the worst to first is there, Like if there's a
team Giants tight, somebody that can figure out a way
to pry Stafford and Cooper Cup away from the Rams Raiders.
I mean, whoever it is you go from worse to first,
or you can really, you know, set your sights on
a division with a snap of a finger, just like
(55:54):
that with one with one wave of your wand.
Speaker 7 (55:56):
And getting those two guys in toe.
Speaker 4 (55:58):
So I think Rogers is kind of because of the
price tag on Rogers and because of the Jets having
to eat the I mean, that's just the only contract
this year that's worse than the Rogers thing is what's
going on with the Angels and Anthony Rendome, but that.
Speaker 7 (56:10):
We can save that for baseball season.
Speaker 4 (56:13):
It's it's crazy how how much, how cheap he will be,
and I think that'll be kind of the hey we
need a guy, let's bring in Aaron.
Speaker 7 (56:20):
He's real cheap.
Speaker 4 (56:21):
Whereas Stafford, I think, is the guy that will kind
of set the market for quarterbacks in the off season.
Speaker 3 (56:28):
I just don't see.
Speaker 2 (56:30):
I mean, you could give the Raiders whatever combination Rogers
in Cup.
Speaker 3 (56:34):
They're going nowhere.
Speaker 2 (56:35):
You could give the Raiders Stafford in Cup and I
would I heavily bet against them in that division.
Speaker 3 (56:43):
They're not They're again like the.
Speaker 7 (56:45):
Yeah, the division's really tough. I agree.
Speaker 2 (56:47):
Yeah, the Chiefs are going for a three peat. You know,
they've been the class. They've been in the AFC title
Game seven straight years. Like I know, worse the first
can happen in the NFL. I totally get that. But like,
is Rogers like Jayden Daniels at the stage of his career.
Speaker 7 (57:02):
No, I don't think Rogers moves into I think if
the Raiders.
Speaker 4 (57:04):
Get Stafford in Cup, I would I would be very
I'd be like whoa.
Speaker 3 (57:08):
I'd be like, whoa, there they go eight and nine.
But I'd be like, they're.
Speaker 2 (57:12):
Going nowhere, nowhere in that division, even with those guys, Chargers, Chiefs, Broncos. No,
not happening.
Speaker 3 (57:21):
Sorry.
Speaker 6 (57:22):
There usually is an odd man out divisionally, right, you know, there's.
Speaker 5 (57:26):
A team that even even if in.
Speaker 6 (57:29):
The preseason they look like on paper, they can compete.
It's hard to have four competitive teams in a division,
and it does feel like the Raiders are the odd
man out. But who knows roster construction, you know, a
change of guard at the top of this organization, maybe
some stability we haven't seen before, and and things. Things
(57:54):
are constantly influx in the NFL. I wouldn't be surprised
if there were surprises in the AFC West for US
this upcoming season.
Speaker 7 (58:01):
He was always the Jets in the afcast.
Speaker 4 (58:03):
Let's just leave it there, it's always the Jets.
Speaker 2 (58:05):
As I hope they do get significant upgrades because that
would be a lot of fun. It would a lot
of fun to you know, they anticipate where they're gonna be. Yeah,
the NFL is more exciting, hundred relevant.
Speaker 5 (58:20):
Come on, all.
Speaker 2 (58:21):
Right, we've got rich Ronberger, Penn State All American, Jared
Smith FSR betting analyst.
Speaker 3 (58:26):
I'm Brian No.

Follow the money, real good money.
Speaker 2 (59:34):
All right, Our main man, Seamus McGee joining us here,
team lead of sports Trading at BEDMGM. You know it's funny, Seamus.
You have got number one versus number two today, Auburn
at Alabama. And I know that you love your you know,
off the radar college basketball plays, but do you love
this one?
Speaker 3 (59:54):
Also for a player too.
Speaker 8 (59:57):
Guys gonna be back this week. I don't know, I
don't see much of it edge here. I think both
teams are really really good. It's going to be really tight.
I don't see a side I particularly loved here. Even
the total, I mean, seventy two and a half total
seems high, but both teams have showed over the course
of the year that they can score the basketball I will,
(01:00:17):
so I don't really see much of a sign here.
I know this line opened, you know, around one and
a half. We're still sitting there, so we'll see which
way the money falls come closer to tip.
Speaker 4 (01:00:29):
Yeah, Seamus, I think just an absolute behemoth of a
Saturday in college basketball. I want to give you a
chance here as the football season officially concludes. Just an
epic super Bowl for the I mean, I know no
one listening cares, but for you as a sports book,
was that the most part I heard, the most profitable day,
the biggest day in bet MGM history because of all
(01:00:51):
those Saquon Barkley anytime touchdown bets that came up empty.
Speaker 6 (01:00:54):
Oo.
Speaker 8 (01:00:55):
Yeah, yeah, I'm sure everyone listening is just, you know,
put on Super Bowl Sunday. Everyone's pumped. But yeah, it's seriously.
Our PR team put it out earlier this week. It
was one of the best days we've ever had as
a company. That's even with you know, coming in, there
were so many different factors about which side we're rooting for.
(01:01:18):
It ended up being fairly balanced either way. About the outcome,
a couple of things he said that worked out for
a Saquon under his totals no touchdown, Kelsey under his totals,
no touchdown, incredible stuff. I mean, HER's first touchdown was
the only market that really felt like that was where
we took a bit of a hit. But we're talking
(01:01:38):
all of these, you know, sing game parlays getting cooked
the Chiefs. We stood a lot of liability on the
last legs of parlays that included the Chiefs. Even when
that game we're in the Super Bowl. You have a
live book where everyone races to bet the Chiefs whenever
they're losing, and they just kept getting pummeled and not
even covering big spreads. It seemed like everything seemed to
(01:02:01):
go our way in that game. So it's definitely one
we're going to remember, and it was one of the
best I think we've shown in a while. We had
over thirteen hundred markets, over thirty five hundred selections you
can make on the Super Bowl. Definitely one of our
best looking books we've ever had. For a Super Bowl.
So just a great job for the trading team all
around from us.
Speaker 5 (01:02:18):
Incredible.
Speaker 6 (01:02:19):
As we turn our attention to college basketball, it's just
about time we start talking about the tournament. We got
a couple of double bubble games like West Virginia, Baylor,
Wake Fours SMU.
Speaker 5 (01:02:33):
How about how about bubble teams you like?
Speaker 6 (01:02:36):
I mean, there's plenty to choose from Vandy, Texas, San
Diego State that one hits close to home. Is there
a bubble team or a couple that have your attention
at this point of the season.
Speaker 8 (01:02:50):
I mean, yeah, it's definitely a definitely a weird bubble.
It feels like we're talking about expanding the tournament in
the coming years and I don't see when, Like this
bubble is pretty lack luster. Like, you have an SMU
team record looks great, They've beaten absolutely no I think
they have one win against a Ken Palm Top fifty
team like Wake Forest is outside the bubble. I'm not
(01:03:11):
sure how much I love them West Virginia, I mean
that was a team I liked. If they had Tucker
de Breeze going the rest of the year, you know,
you got a roof for Vanderbilt like it'd be so
cool to see them make it back here into the tournament.
But yeah, I don't you talked about you see San Diego,
but like it's tough to see. Are we going to
really get a two big big West? That would be
(01:03:34):
really crazy to see. I mean, Arkansas's a bubble team
just loaded with talent, but you know, they keep not
winning these big games. Frankly, like I don't even know
how many teams I really you know, like that are
on the bubble, like to even make a run.
Speaker 2 (01:03:49):
You know, it's funny going back to the super Bowl
that you guys had and all the money that you made.
Speaker 3 (01:03:54):
What do you guys do as a company.
Speaker 2 (01:03:55):
I just picture like, hey, guys, we made twenty two
million chili.
Speaker 3 (01:04:00):
Is at lunch today for everyone. Like what do you
guys do to celebrate anything for like a cash like that?
Speaker 8 (01:04:06):
Come on, well, it's exactly what you know the public
sports betters think we do. We just talk champagne and
the party alloted for sleep through the night after the
super Bowl. No, it's you know, this week, it's you know,
it's a big debrief. We look back on the on
the football season. You know, we try not to you know,
be like, hey, that was a great result. Let's you know,
(01:04:26):
take some time to credit your respective teams and whatnot.
But March Madness is around the corner, so we don't
have a lot of time to just you know, you
know it, say a great job and everything, because we
got to keep moving forward and you know, keep improving.
So uh yeah, we're locked in on the college basketball
coming ahead, and you know, it's still funny of NBA going.
We're a little bit of a break with the All
Star Game coming up, and we've got Four Nations hockey,
(01:04:49):
which has been awesome this week and we're seeing some
good handle there.
Speaker 5 (01:04:51):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:04:52):
Actually that has been the buzz amongst some of the
gambling social media circles this week. Is those the Finland
you know us say Canon, all those crazy hockey matchups
that are happening right now. A quick transition question with
college hoops, we're in that week now where everyone starts
to focus on college basketball. Would you say at this
(01:05:13):
point the market has fully caught up to that or
is there a little bit of a grace period for
the casual college basketball better that has missed out on
the first three months of the season to kind of
get their feet wet with the softer market, or are
you guys, do you feel your defenses are impenetrable at
this stage where you've had twenty five data points on
most of these teams, you kind of know what they are.
(01:05:33):
Or do we get a little bit of a grace
period for the next couple weeks until March madness.
Speaker 8 (01:05:37):
You might get a little bit of like an edge
this week, But you know, we have a pretty decent
sample size. Most teams have played around, you know, a
little north of twenty games already this year, so market's
definitely settled on a lot of teams. But you know,
you look at these smaller conference teams that you know
I always come on here and talk about you can
always find an edge there. I mean, if you're locked
(01:05:59):
in you know, the Swack Conference or you know the
Horizon League Church, you can still find an edge. But
you know, this time, like there is a lot of
teams that you probably have missed the boat a little bit.
But you know, if there's a team I always like
to see teams who have started playing better since the
new year, and you know, you get a team like
Wisconsin right now, they've been playing some of the best
(01:06:20):
basketball in the country right now, So that could be
another team where it's like, oh, well, maybe you know,
is the market caught up to them yet? We'll see.
That's just an example.
Speaker 5 (01:06:28):
Number one, verse number two. I said it earlier today.
Speaker 6 (01:06:31):
Auburn at Alabama, I'm expecting a track meet. I think
the over is a safe bet. How do you feel
this game is going to be played? I'm thinking tempo,
but I'd love to hear your thoughts on it.
Speaker 8 (01:06:45):
I agree. I mean, it's hard not to see tempo,
especially with Nate Oates. Do you know how he likes
to play, especially at home. They're gonna they're gonna really
run the ball, and we're prol It's not as DNA
to ever take the air out of the ball. So
I think you're definitely going to see a track It's
just are we going to see the shops?
Speaker 5 (01:07:01):
Ball?
Speaker 8 (01:07:02):
Is all we need?
Speaker 5 (01:07:03):
All right?
Speaker 2 (01:07:04):
Seamus Seamus special time. It doesn't sound like Auburn Alabama,
So what's it gonna be?
Speaker 7 (01:07:10):
Alabama? That was a pick I gave that earlier.
Speaker 8 (01:07:13):
If you're watching one game today, it's not a college
basketball game. It simply must be USA Canada eight o'clock
Eastern in the four Nations face off in Mancha. It's
going to be an electric atmosphere. And I go to
a player prop here. Brady could Chuck was all over
the ice for USA against Finland in their game last Wednesday.
(01:07:36):
I mean, this guy, he's getting bumped up to the
first line. It looks like from what we're seeing with
his brother, Matt and Jack Eichel, those three guys were
probably the three best forwards for the team in that game.
I like Brady could Chuck to score a goal here.
I think he gets some pretty good odds because he's
skitting with the third line the first game. But I
don't know, maybe it looks like the markets will slow to,
(01:07:58):
you know, figure him out on the on the top line.
I think there's a lot of goals in that game.
It's you know, it's someone on Cana has said this tournament,
they take sweetens the fastest hockey game you ever played in.
You have the best hockey players in the world save
the Russians playing in this and there's just so much
speed out there. I could see some goals in this game.
Speaker 2 (01:08:17):
Okay, all right, love that Four Nations, very nice, all right,
good stuff is always here. Seamus I hope you have
a great day and maybe not as successful as the
Super Bowl.
Speaker 3 (01:08:28):
You know, maybe not, but it's.
Speaker 8 (01:08:30):
Gonna be those for a while.
Speaker 3 (01:08:33):
Absolutely.
Speaker 2 (01:08:34):
We'll catch you soon though. Thank you for your time, Seamus.
As always, thanks guys. There he is Seamus McGee, team
lead of Sports Trading at bet MGM. Okay, let's keep
the hoops talk going over here. First thing, you guys,
see the one on one tournament that was going on
last night in the unrivaled league, like literally.
Speaker 3 (01:08:56):
One on one.
Speaker 2 (01:08:57):
Wouldn't you love to see that in the NBA? Are
you all Star weekend? Like what the Dunk Contest has
turned into with a bunch of no names disaster, You
could spruce up the weekend massively if you add a
little bracket one on one and players were actually invested
in that, that could be unbelievable.
Speaker 3 (01:09:16):
I would love to see that.
Speaker 5 (01:09:18):
Yeah, yeah, I think that.
Speaker 6 (01:09:21):
I think that in general, what fans are missing when
it comes to All Star weekend, well, you know what,
let's expand.
Speaker 5 (01:09:30):
This to all sports.
Speaker 6 (01:09:32):
All Star weekend in baseball and basketball, Pro Bowl for
football is the feeling that the players really care that anything,
whether it be integrity or interest, is.
Speaker 5 (01:09:46):
Really on the line. I think that's what makes it fun.
Speaker 6 (01:09:49):
Now again, all of those festivities are more geared for
a younger crowd. But if you have a sports betting culture,
which the United States sports viewing culture is turning to,
more competitiveness is important. You know, nobody wants to, you know,
put their real hard earned cash on something where they
don't think the results are all that uh fought for.
Speaker 5 (01:10:14):
I guess is the best way it could come up with.
Speaker 6 (01:10:16):
Uh, it's you want you want to feel like not
only are you vying for a win, but also those
who you're placing your wageron are vying.
Speaker 5 (01:10:26):
For a win. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:10:27):
I think the NBA All Star weekend needs a major renovation.
It needs some botox facelift, little micro needling, I mean,
something just to revitalize what is happening something something, I
mean it's suck out. Yeah, And it got to the
point now where so I wrote a paper about this
(01:10:48):
in college. The definition of a sport and the way
that I defined it is the most purest form of
sport is one that there is no outside, you know,
interference with who decide two wins. So anything that is
based on a judge saying I think miss.
Speaker 7 (01:11:05):
Triple axle is better than that triple axle.
Speaker 4 (01:11:08):
I get a little bit clammy on on the result,
Like it's really hard to do. And I'm not saying
gymnastics or figure skating isn't a sport. I'm saying it
is not the purest form of sport because the action
is not being decided on the playing surface. It is
being decided upstairs by a judge. You cannot have the
dunk contest continue to linger on in obscurity with this stuff.
(01:11:31):
We need to revitalize this weekend. They have tried so
many ways, they tried to elam ending. Now they're doing
this weird four way thing. It's like a it's like
an orgy of bad basketball. It's just, it's just, it's
just we need a shape. The NBA All Star weekend
used to be my favorite weekend of this month.
Speaker 7 (01:11:52):
Yeah, it was.
Speaker 3 (01:11:53):
Vince Carter saying it's over.
Speaker 4 (01:11:55):
It was Nate Robinson five whatever, jumping over people like,
we need to figure out a way to get that
excitement back. The NBA's got they've got a problem with
this All Star weekend. I don't think they have any
idea what to do with it. It's not like the NFL,
where it's a throwaway at the end of the year.
It's smack dab in the middle of the season and
(01:12:15):
nobody gives a hoot. Nobody cares. Even the three point
contest is getting a little bit of a like vibes,
but it's not what it was, And I think we
I don't know what the answer is. I think one
on one's a good idea, Lebron against Giannis.
Speaker 7 (01:12:31):
Like, are you kidding me? The problem is those guys
don't want to do it.
Speaker 4 (01:12:34):
You have to pay them, you have to incentivize them
to do it. That might be the only way to
get these big names back in an All Star weekend.
Speaker 3 (01:12:40):
Well, I still love the three point contest. But that's
the thing.
Speaker 2 (01:12:45):
This is gonna sound like, you know, old man yelling
at clouds, but it's true.
Speaker 3 (01:12:49):
It became cool to not care.
Speaker 2 (01:12:52):
Yeah, that's the that's the reality here of All Star
weekend where no one, no big names care about doing
the dunk contest, no big names care about playing in
the All Star Game. Right, It wasn't that long ago.
It was maybe one of the first years of the
elam ending. It was actually pretty good. Like that fourth
quarter they were really competing and it was it was
(01:13:13):
worth watching. And man, these last few years it has
been freaking brutal. It's I love the NBA. It's unwatchable,
it really is. And this goofy four team thing, I
don't know, man, Like we have one of these teams
like last night there's a bunch of young guys, a
bunch of non all stars going up against an all
star team.
Speaker 3 (01:13:33):
It's like, what are we doing over here? But that's
at the heart of it.
Speaker 2 (01:13:37):
No matter how you repackage it, no matter how you
try to put lipstick on the pig. If they don't care,
it's gonna suck no matter what the format is.
Speaker 3 (01:13:48):
And I just hate that it's turned into that.
Speaker 2 (01:13:50):
You see some of these highlights of like when Jordan
and Kobe were going, they.
Speaker 3 (01:13:55):
Were going at it it all star.
Speaker 2 (01:13:57):
They used to be a lot of fun and the
last hand full of years there's just no effort whatsoever.
And it's sad if you're used to watching what it
used to be. It used to actually be a competition.
It's not even close to that now.
Speaker 5 (01:14:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:14:10):
Yeah, I feel for NBA fans who were born of
our generation because I've like, if you were a kid
during the nineties, right, you got to watch an era
of basketball where players played for pride during All Star Games,
(01:14:31):
and All Star Weekend was a big deal. Like Jared mentioned,
it was one of the best parts of the sports
calendar because there's a lull after the Super Bowl, right Like,
so all of a sudden, your attention turns to the
NBA and you have this opportunity to see the best
stars actually fighting and clawing through an exhibition.
Speaker 5 (01:14:51):
It was the coolest. It really felt like the soft
launch to the NBA season.
Speaker 6 (01:14:56):
Now, granted they had been playing for forty games to
that point, but nobody he was paying as much attention
until the All Star Game, and it really has faded.
It is faded to the point where the NBA has
now how to create this play in tournament to make
a larger field than the playoffs, to actually get people
motivated to pay attention to their sport with an expanded postseason.
Speaker 5 (01:15:18):
And it's sad.
Speaker 6 (01:15:20):
Yeah, and the NBA needs a big facelift, There's no
question about it.
Speaker 7 (01:15:24):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:15:25):
Absolutely.
Speaker 2 (01:15:25):
That's Rich Orenberger, Penn State All American, Jared Smith FSR
betting analyst with US. I'm Brian no On Fridays, BETMGM,
authorized gaming operator of the NBA, is making first field
goal scorer wagers more exciting with second Chance.
Speaker 3 (01:15:41):
What second chance?
Speaker 5 (01:15:42):
Well?
Speaker 2 (01:15:42):
You ever bet on your favorite player to score the
first field goal only to see him make an assist
to his teammate for an easy layup.
Speaker 3 (01:15:49):
Not great?
Speaker 2 (01:15:50):
But with betmgm's second Chance, you'll get your stake back
in cash if your first field goal scorer score second
instead of first.
Speaker 3 (01:15:59):
Right right around the corner, prop it up.
Speaker 2 (01:16:02):
Huh, we got the prop bet market all raring to go.
Here with a huge college basketball Saturday, we'll compare notes.
Speaker 5 (01:16:09):
Coming up.
Speaker 2 (01:16:09):
It's Fox Sports Radios Countdown presented by BEDMGM. It is

Speaker 3 (01:16:34):
All right, let's do this.
Speaker 1 (01:16:36):
Prop it up player plays.
Speaker 3 (01:16:40):
Look at the brand new imaging. I heard the sneakers
squeaking right there.
Speaker 5 (01:16:44):
Huh.
Speaker 3 (01:16:45):
Let's go.
Speaker 2 (01:16:46):
We got some college basketball plays. Today, Jared, what are
you looking at that, buddy?
Speaker 5 (01:16:49):
Oh?
Speaker 7 (01:16:50):
You know I've got college basketball props for you. So
I do like the over in this Wisconsin Perdue game
a lot. It's priced at one to fifty and a half.
Speaker 4 (01:16:57):
So let's take it a layer deeper and let's figure
out what's gonna be the vibe of the game. And
I think it's gonna be a lot of pick and roll.
That's what Purdue loves to play. Braiden Smith the number
one assist rate man in the country. He's had ten
games this year of double digit assists and again high
scoring game, high total, a lot of points, a lot
(01:17:18):
of buckets, a lot of assists. His number at bet
MGM is seven and a half plus money to the over.
Speaker 7 (01:17:24):
I think that number closes higher.
Speaker 4 (01:17:26):
In fact, that wouldn't be shocked to seeing eight and
a half pretty soon, even maybe.
Speaker 5 (01:17:28):
After we give this out.
Speaker 7 (01:17:30):
But Braiden Smith over.
Speaker 4 (01:17:31):
Seven and a half assists. I love This game feels
like a tempo game between the Boilers and the Badgers today.
So I think Brayden Smith with Trey Kaufin Wren, he
is the roller to the pick.
Speaker 7 (01:17:42):
I think you're gonna see a lot of.
Speaker 5 (01:17:43):
Assists today from Brayden.
Speaker 6 (01:17:45):
Can't keep my eyes off of this number one, number
two matchup Auburn Alabama. I'm I'm looking at the Miles
Kelly three point prop. I may I may take the
over there, but Johnny Broom is going to get his.
He is contention for the player of the year in
the country. Big man, He's gonna get his. This is
(01:18:07):
gonna be high scoring affair nineteen and a half. I
think his player prop sores pass over on the point total.
Speaker 5 (01:18:15):
Give me, give me Johnny Bruman over on points.
Speaker 3 (01:18:18):
Okay, here's the thing. I'm looking at the same.
Speaker 2 (01:18:21):
Game, auburnett at Alabama, and we're anticipating a track meet.
Speaker 3 (01:18:27):
A lot of shots, a lot.
Speaker 2 (01:18:28):
Of makes you know, hopefully if you're on the over,
but there's gonna be a lot of misses.
Speaker 3 (01:18:32):
It's just number one, number two teams in.
Speaker 2 (01:18:35):
Terms of offensive efficiency pass up there.
Speaker 3 (01:18:40):
So I expect the track meet.
Speaker 2 (01:18:42):
One of the random things I'm expecting a couple of
long rebounds.
Speaker 3 (01:18:47):
Let's stark a guard with rebounding. Here, give me Auburn.
Speaker 2 (01:18:52):
Guard Denver Jones over two and a half rebounds. Why
he's not known as a rebounder our guy jan I
broom Is. It's fantastic that guy might have double digit
rebounds in this game. But give me Denver Jones to
get to three rebounds. He's had at least three rebounds
in four of its last six games, so I anticipated.
Speaker 3 (01:19:13):
Some opportunities here where it's just a loose.
Speaker 5 (01:19:15):
Ball, long rebound.
Speaker 3 (01:19:17):
I'd say it finds Denver Jones at least three times today.
Speaker 7 (01:19:20):
What do we don't have a problem with that?
Speaker 5 (01:19:22):
Okay, I think more more point.
Speaker 4 (01:19:24):
That's actually a kind of misconception with a lot of
the high total games.
Speaker 7 (01:19:27):
You think lower total games, more misses, more rebounds. But
I prefer the more.
Speaker 4 (01:19:33):
Shots, more rebounds, more volume of shots. I think that's
where the vibe is in this band game.
Speaker 7 (01:19:38):
I'll be honest. I think the total is so I
would I would not bet over with a total in
one seventy. I am so many.
Speaker 5 (01:19:47):
I don't care.
Speaker 3 (01:19:48):
I'm doing drought and it's over.
Speaker 5 (01:19:50):
I don't care.
Speaker 2 (01:19:50):
We got paced, we got three point shooting. We're going over,
baby track me.
Speaker 7 (01:19:54):
I've also bet the under, but I don't know if
i'd bet the opper.
Speaker 5 (01:19:57):
I hear you.
Speaker 3 (01:19:58):
I'm also what do you guys think of this. I'm
gonna go with Brant Nelson, just ask one to three.
Speaker 2 (01:20:03):
Oh yeah, it track feed Earlier against Kentucky he had
seven three point attempts.
Speaker 4 (01:20:09):
Yes, he's gonna step out because he's gonna bring broom
away from the basket.
Speaker 3 (01:20:13):
Yeah, yeah, I'm gonna take too.
Speaker 2 (01:20:16):
All right, coming up next, If anyone wants to sell
this team stock, I will happily buy it. Oh what
is going on? I hope you're having a fantastic Saturday.
Thanks for being here. You know, we will fully embrace
hoop season as we go along here, but uh ball
is still gonna be part of the chatter.
Speaker 5 (01:20:34):
You know.
Speaker 2 (01:20:34):
We got the draft and the not too distant future.
We'll talk about that when the new odds come out.
Football wise, we'll dive into that. And I just have
to I gotta go mini rant for it just just
a minute here, Jared, you mentioned this early in the show,
where the overreaction to the Chiefs going forward. Yeah, they
(01:20:57):
got punked by the Eagles in the Super Bowl. We
all saw what happened. But the overreaction of where the
Chiefs go next, it's been a steady diet of oh well,
this sucks about the roster and that sucks it. Oh
my gosh, the arrows pointed down cautionary tale, major warning signs.
It's like, guys, let's hold on for a second here.
(01:21:19):
Do you realize when they got crushed by Tampa in
Super Bowl fifty five that they won two of the
next three Super Bowls?
Speaker 5 (01:21:27):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:21:28):
Right, Like, just keep that in mind.
Speaker 2 (01:21:31):
I know they got squashed, but to think like Mahomes
just sucks going forward, Like what are we doing? There's
been far too much of that over the week where
it's just, oh my gosh.
Speaker 3 (01:21:43):
They make it.
Speaker 2 (01:21:44):
Sound like they'd be lucky to win ten games and
challenge for the AFC West. It's like they've been in
the AFC title game seven straight years. Why are people
just willingly selling their Chief stock. I'll buy it, man,
I think this is time to buy some stock.
Speaker 5 (01:21:59):
I'm with you.
Speaker 6 (01:22:00):
I am one hundred percent with you. The same way
Jalen Hurts was undoubtedly motivated by the Super Bowl loss
to the Chiefs. I think Patrick Mahomes shares a similar
furiosity after a game like that because it wasn't his fault.
Speaker 5 (01:22:18):
It really wasn't. Now.
Speaker 6 (01:22:19):
I understand he threw interceptions, but when you were under
that level of duress. Throughout the course of a football game,
you don't have very many good options, and I actually
appreciate a quarterback who kind of goes for it. In
a game like that. Nothing was going well for the Chiefs.
Patrick Mahomes was under consistent pressure, and it wasn't because
(01:22:42):
he was making poor decisions or patting the ball in
the pocket and.
Speaker 5 (01:22:47):
He was too slow.
Speaker 6 (01:22:48):
Nobody was getting open, and his offensive linemen were getting
individually beat and giving up a tremendous amount of pressure.
And so when that happens, you have to force a
couple of bats throws to try to make something, to
try to turn the tide, to try to grab a
chunk play, to try to make something explosive happen.
Speaker 5 (01:23:08):
And like you said, Brian, this isn't the start of
a decline.
Speaker 6 (01:23:13):
This was a really bad game in a really bad moment,
which every single great player in the history of literally
every sport has played a real bad game in a
real bad spot.
Speaker 5 (01:23:27):
It's a part of being an athlete. It's the reason
why we love.
Speaker 6 (01:23:30):
Sports because there are no predictable outcomes. Now you may say, well,
when the officials are in the Chiefs pockets there are.
It's like, Okay, if that were true, then the Chiefs
would have won the Super Bowl, but they didn't, so
that narrative falls on deaf ears. Now here's the reality.
(01:23:50):
Brian and Jared, I know you feel similarly about the Chiefs.
It really is like, until proven otherwise, this is right
now the bar. They're setting the bar in the NFL,
and those who can scrape up underneath it, well they'll
be in contention in the AFC.
Speaker 5 (01:24:10):
But the Chiefs they've set the bar.
Speaker 4 (01:24:13):
Yeah, And I think you get to this point in
Mahomes's career and like, what are we talking about here?
It's the overreaction to one game. But then you get to, Okay, well,
what are the Chiefs going to be next year? Probably
the same team. They're gonna be a team that doesn't
dominate the regular season because they don't need to, and
they're gonna be a team that shows up in January
(01:24:34):
and they're the same nails defense with a great, elite
Hall of Fame.
Speaker 7 (01:24:38):
Quarterback that they've always had.
Speaker 4 (01:24:41):
And I think the overreaction is just the natural ebbs
and flows of again, our sports media landscape, which is never, never,
there's never any in between.
Speaker 7 (01:24:52):
It's either all to one side or all to the
other side.
Speaker 4 (01:24:56):
Like you can't just objectively look at a game and say, yeah,
the Eagles were better. The Eagles were the best team
in the NFL this year, best roster in the NFL,
probably should have been favored in the game, but they
weren't because Mahomes is God and nobody. You know, if
you think bet MGM made a lot of money on
the game if the Eagles were a dog, imagine if
(01:25:17):
the if the Chiefs were the dog, how much more
money would have come in on Kansas City. Bet MGM
actually did y'all a favor keeping Kansas City favored in
the game, because I can't imagine.
Speaker 7 (01:25:27):
The overflow of money if Philly would have been the favorite.
Speaker 4 (01:25:31):
But I, like Brian, I just think this is this
is par for the course for our media landscape, Like we.
Speaker 7 (01:25:37):
Just don't know how to react.
Speaker 4 (01:25:40):
It's always an overreaction, and I think the reaction to
what we saw someday the Eagles were better than the Chiefs,
but it doesn't mean the Chiefs are worse than the
Texans or the Bills. I mean, I still if you
line those teams up tomorrow and it was Chiefs Bills
again in the AFC Title Game. I bet Kansas City
again and they probably win again.
Speaker 2 (01:26:00):
Yeah, well yeah, And I think if they played the
Super Bowl ten times between the Chiefs and the Eagles,
do you think it would have gone the same way?
Like the Eagles smack them around most of I don't
think so.
Speaker 4 (01:26:12):
I read think more often than not, the Eagles would
have won. I don't know about forty to twenty.
Speaker 2 (01:26:15):
Two, right right, right exactly, Like maybe they win six
out of ten, maybe they go six and four, But
of those five other wins, if that's the number, they're
not boat racing them. I just don't think it would
be a consistent trend. But I also look at other teams,
like take the Chiefs out of it. Think about the Broncos.
Remember when the Broncos lost forty three to eight in
(01:26:36):
the Super Bowl, they won the Super Bowl two years later,
you know what I mean? Like they had a good roster,
and you look at the Chiefs roster. You get Rashie
Rice back, You got Rashie Rice matched.
Speaker 3 (01:26:47):
With Xavier Worthy. That's pretty good.
Speaker 2 (01:26:50):
You need a left tackle so Joe Toney can kick
down to guard his natural position. You can run the
ball more effectively. But defensively, you've got Chris Jones, Trent McDuffie,
you got Spat, You've got a lot to work with.
You just can't lose sight of that. I also think
about this, does yours honest question? Does your top ten
quarterback list to begin with Mahomes right now?
Speaker 3 (01:27:10):
Because mine still does?
Speaker 5 (01:27:12):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:27:12):
Absolutely right.
Speaker 2 (01:27:13):
So you got the best quarterback in the league. Yeah,
he came off an all time stinker. But you're gonna
sell your stock with the best quarterback in the league
matched with Andy Reid and a legit roster. Okay, Okay,
it's not the time to sell. What do you guys
think about Travis Kelcey?
Speaker 3 (01:27:31):
Has he done?
Speaker 2 (01:27:32):
He's got until March fourteenth, he's got one month to
decide if he's gonna play next season.
Speaker 3 (01:27:37):
Does he run it back?
Speaker 5 (01:27:38):
I think you will.
Speaker 6 (01:27:39):
I think he will because I think Kansas City, you know,
to really finish off the point you just made about
the Chiefs, I think the Kansas City Chiefs campaign at
the top of the NFL isn't even close to being finished.
And so Travis Kelcey, if he feels like he's got
(01:28:00):
any tread left on the tire. You got to stick
this out. I mean, he's got another year on the contract.
He is one of the most talented and devastatingly effective
players when he's playing well. This season was a down year.
Does he want to finish on a dour note? I
don't think so. I think the competitive nature of of
(01:28:23):
most athletes, but especially football players, is going to fuel
him for one last offseason. And there's also somewhat of
a springboard, right that you're looking for when you're finishing
your career and you're you're you're moving headlong into the
next that that off ramp can be long.
Speaker 5 (01:28:43):
You know.
Speaker 6 (01:28:43):
Tom Brady, for example, after a career of greatness in
the NFL, it it didn't feel like he came to
the end as smoothly as people thought he would like.
There was some speculation he would would retire. There was
a retirement announcement, and then he came out of retirement
to play one more season, and then it sounded like
(01:29:04):
he was going to get right into the booth broadcasting,
and he ended up taking a year and collecting himself
before getting it to work with Fox. So I don't
think he seems ready yet to me to move on
from the game and move on to the rest of
his life whatever whatever that'll look like.
Speaker 5 (01:29:22):
So yeah, I think Kelsey will be back. I don't know.
Speaker 7 (01:29:27):
I mean, I think there's a lot of physical.
Speaker 4 (01:29:32):
Limitations at this point. And he's owed seventeen million next
year and guaranteed money.
Speaker 7 (01:29:37):
Like that's a lot.
Speaker 4 (01:29:38):
And I think that's that's gonna be the question that
the Chiefs have because they do have some retooling to do,
and maybe they ask him to restructure and they and
they get something a little bit cheaper. It sounded like,
and I know they played the clip during our commercials
of the New Heights where he was kind of talking
about I think it was on Dan Patrick's show. It
sounded like he had a lot of things to work through.
(01:30:00):
So and again, I don't I don't know what the
answer is. I don't know what he's thinking. I think
he has such a bright media career in front of him,
Like at what point do you say, Okay, physically I'm
not the same player that I was, and obviously I
can't compete at that level anymore, but I can still
make a lot of money doing a lot of other things.
(01:30:21):
It doesn't me it'll be a very interesting decision. I
do think if he does stay, the Chiefs have to
figure out a way to restructure. So I don't think
you can have seventeen million on the cap for a
tight end who's over the hill.
Speaker 7 (01:30:30):
I just I think that's a lot.
Speaker 2 (01:30:31):
I hear both of you, and it's interesting because, look, man,
the timing of this conversation, you got to take into account.
It reminds me a lot of his old teammate, reminds
me a lot of Tyreek Hill. Remember after Week eighteen,
Dolphins lose to the Jets of yeah, Tyler Huntley can't
(01:30:52):
can't throw.
Speaker 3 (01:30:52):
The ball to Tyreek at all.
Speaker 2 (01:30:54):
They missed the playoffs, and Tyreek's like, I gotta get
out of here, right, And then you give it a
couple of weeks and he's like, nah, I kind of
like Miami, I don't you know. And so with Travis Kelsey,
it'd be like be like going to the gym for
at least a week straight and having these grueling workouts
(01:31:15):
and then on the final day someone sticks a microphone
in your face and says, hey, how do you feel
right now? And you're just like, I'm spent, man, Gosh,
everything hurts, everything aches, and I guarantee that's how Travis
Kelsey play it feels right now.
Speaker 3 (01:31:31):
And he did mention that it's tough.
Speaker 2 (01:31:34):
When he's not able to do the things that he
once was able to do, and that might be the
honest reality where he does walk away because he's not
the same player anymore. But I also think the timing
of when he's making these comments you give it a
month fair and that might change a lot of what
he thinks where you gotta gear up big time. That's
(01:31:55):
a huge commitment to play one more year. But he
might say I'm up for it, and I don't want
to go out like that. I want to have one
more year here. I would not be surprised at all
if he comes back. I wouldn't be surprised either way.
Speaker 7 (01:32:07):
Agree.
Speaker 2 (01:32:07):
But I think if you give it three four weeks,
I think your perspective changes a lot.
Speaker 6 (01:32:13):
The Travis Kelcey conversation is a difficult one because you
have to start bringing up almost the.
Speaker 5 (01:32:20):
Mortality of an athlete.
Speaker 6 (01:32:22):
You die too, deaths when you're an athlete, and when
you've tasted greatness like Travis Kelcey has gotten to enjoy
over the course of his illustrious career. Yeah, there may
be great things waiting for him in the wings, and
the PostScript of his career in the NFL will parlay
nicely into a media career. But there is nothing like
(01:32:46):
putting on the shoulder pads and pulling the jersey over
those shoulder pads and belting up the chin strap and
going out there with your brothers who you forged a
bond with over years and toil and fighting for each other.
It's the greatest part of the game. It's the part
(01:33:07):
of the game that I miss the most, is the
camaraderie and the laughter and the kinship and the family.
You are leaving your family behind when you lay down
the sword for good. That's a really, really hard decision
to make. And that's the reason why there's a lot
of tears and a lot of second thoughts when great players,
(01:33:30):
especially are moulling retirement.
Speaker 4 (01:33:33):
Yeah, it's well said, and again, obviously speak to that
because you know, other than my high school jersey, I
can't really I can't really relate too much.
Speaker 2 (01:33:41):
But think about that, right, Jared, That feeling of it's
over right, I remember taking from Think if you're still
playing at a high level, which Kelsey is not the
same level, but still a high level. Yeah, and he's
still got something left in the tank. And you're making
the decision to walk away from all of that. That
that's that's really difficult.
Speaker 7 (01:34:02):
Here's my follow up.
Speaker 4 (01:34:03):
Do you think his relationship with his brother and how
his brother handed because let's be honest, I think a
lot of people thought Jason might might come back one
more year and he decided not to.
Speaker 7 (01:34:13):
Do you think that situation plays a factor?
Speaker 4 (01:34:16):
Like, hey, Jason, you know, maybe left the year to
her and think about it, he left the Eagles won
the Super Bowl right years later, Like, do do you
think that decision affects Travis's decision at all?
Speaker 6 (01:34:28):
It does, But also exactly what you just said, Jared,
that part of the conversation is going to come up
to because he's going.
Speaker 5 (01:34:36):
To talk to his brother Jason. They're they're close.
Speaker 6 (01:34:38):
I mean, they speak to each other, you know, and
I understand like some of it's a business relationship, right,
they're doing a podcast together. But when when like like us, right,
you know, on you're on this you're on this radio show.
But because we're we're partners on air, we've become friends.
Speaker 5 (01:34:56):
Well, yeah, these guys are partners for life. They're brothers, yea.
Speaker 6 (01:34:59):
And then they have this great excuse of doing this
podcast together to stay in better touch than most siblings.
And I guarantee he's bouncing things off a Hey, Jay,
you know, how did it feel watching your team win
the Super Bowl this year?
Speaker 5 (01:35:15):
Right?
Speaker 6 (01:35:15):
And you know, and when you start peeling back the
layers of that, and you know, man, I gotta tell you, Travis,
that was that was tough.
Speaker 5 (01:35:22):
You know. I wish I was out there still fighting
with them.
Speaker 6 (01:35:25):
And who knows it, Maybe maybe Jason's in a better
headspace of that. Maybe he's one hundred percent over it.
He's happy with this next evolution of his media career
now and he's having fabulous success and he deserves it
because he's a supremely entertaining guy and a really talented orator.
But and it's a big butt. There is nothing, there
(01:35:47):
is nothing that compares to the adrenaline rush you get
when you achieve with a group of men that you've
been fighting with for you know, and and you know,
and obviously making a lot of sacrifices to do that.
It's a whole different thing. So I'm very curious about
that conversation that Travis and Jase are going to have.
Speaker 5 (01:36:05):
Jared, I think it's an important piece of this puzzle.
I get.
Speaker 3 (01:36:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:36:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:36:10):
Last thing I'll say about it is, you know, for
anybody who's saying, hey, all these media, the opportunities that
will come his way, they're still going to be there. Yeah,
if he decides to play one more year, it's not
like that just goes away. And look, I know the
last two games, the super Bowl against the Eagles, the
game against the Bills, he didn't do much of anything.
(01:36:32):
But the first game of the playoffs seven catches for
a buck seventeen and a touchdown against the Texans. You
know what I mean, Like, I think we're used to
Kelsey playing at such a high level that we freak
out a little bit too much when he has a
down game or two, or it's like this guy's washed.
Speaker 5 (01:36:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:36:49):
Last thing that goes back to the Mahomes discussion that
we just had, like one bad data point, it's over,
it's done.
Speaker 5 (01:36:55):
Back it up.
Speaker 2 (01:36:56):
Yeah, the guy can still play. What do you say,
real fast, Jared? Coming back or retiring?
Speaker 7 (01:37:02):
What do you think you're retiring?
Speaker 3 (01:37:03):
What do you say rich coming back?
Speaker 5 (01:37:04):
I think he'll come back.
Speaker 4 (01:37:06):
I think he's coming back, but we'll see friendly mean,
maybe go on tour with Taylor for a few months.
Speaker 7 (01:37:12):
I don't even know if they're on tour.
Speaker 2 (01:37:16):
Yeah, yeah, all right, we got Rich Jornberger, Penn State
All American, Jared Smith FSR, betting analyst.
Speaker 3 (01:37:23):
I'm Brian.
Speaker 5 (01:37:24):
No.

but there's a basketball team that kind of plays like
a football team. That would be your Houston.
Speaker 3 (01:38:35):
Cougars mp man.
Speaker 2 (01:38:37):
They play a physical style of basketball on the road
at Arizona today in Houston they are two and a
half point road favorites.
Speaker 3 (01:38:46):
How about that right there.
Speaker 2 (01:38:47):
But if you love physical basketball and you love defense,
Houston is your squad because they get after it in
both categories.
Speaker 5 (01:38:55):
Yeah, the Koug's taking on the Cats.
Speaker 6 (01:38:57):
Wildcats havn't lost in their home arena yet this season,
so being road favorites, it's it's it's quite the statement.
But like you said, Houston dictates how these games go.
Kelvin Sampson's team is an incredibly stifling defensive squad. And
(01:39:20):
then also if you look at their offensive numbers, they're
not gaudy, but it's because of this reason. They like
to dribble and pass. They really like to take their time,
they choose their shots, they find the open man, and
they they will slow a game down. It's just like
it's just like, I mean, think about think about any
(01:39:42):
team in the NFL with a great run, run game, right,
with a great ground game, what do they want to do.
They want to get an early lead and then they
want to take the air out of the football. They
want to run it. They want to have you know,
these sixteen play drives where it's.
Speaker 5 (01:39:57):
You know, three or four yards out of time.
Speaker 6 (01:40:00):
Maybe a couple of explosive plays, but they're just gonna
grind you down. And that is exactly what this Houston
Cougar's team does on a basketball court. And it is
a very different way of playing basketball, especially in today's game,
where you see a lot of high flying offenses, a
lot of tempo, a lot of three point perimeter shooting.
Speaker 5 (01:40:19):
That is not what Houston does.
Speaker 6 (01:40:21):
They play stifling defense and they slow the game down
on the offensive side of the court.
Speaker 4 (01:40:28):
Yeah, Houston being a road favorite here, I think kind
of speaks to the prowess that the market gives them.
Zona coming off a really bad loss to Kansas State.
Caleb Love was just non existent. Zona's had a really
up and down year. Non conference not so great. They
were six and five. They got blown out by Duke
at home. They blew a fourteen point lead to UCLA.
(01:40:49):
Lost that Wisconsin a lot one hundred and three points
and forty seven free throw attempts in that game. Can
we get that kind of game today between Wisconsin and
Produce and so we're on the over lost to Westford
Ginian overtime.
Speaker 7 (01:41:00):
That was when Tucker DeVries was still healthy.
Speaker 4 (01:41:03):
So Zona just kind of slept, walked through the non
conference and all of a sudden, big twelve play explosion.
Only losses were at Texas Tech and then the game
they just lost at Kansas State, which snapped that six
game win streak.
Speaker 7 (01:41:15):
Zona's got the two alphas.
Speaker 4 (01:41:16):
Kleb Love is a stud, fearless, It's got almost a
thirty percent usage rate. And I really like the point
guard TJ. Bradley, great perimeter defender. I think both of
those guys work really well off each other. It is
an elite backcourt. Houston can just suffocate you defensively. Now
here's the difference between this year's Houston and last year's Houston,
which was a number one seed and expected to go
(01:41:37):
to the Final four. They ended up losing in the
sweet sixteen to Duke. That was the game Jamal Shed
got hurt. But this year's Houston team's significantly better shooting team,
and I think that's why they're more equipped to make
a run to the Final four this year. We know
they like to slow it down. We know Arizona likes
to play fast. Arizona is a transition team. Well, Houston
really defends the transition.
Speaker 8 (01:41:57):
Well.
Speaker 7 (01:41:58):
I think this is a bad matchup for Arizona.
Speaker 4 (01:42:00):
I mean, unless Caleb Love rekindles the magic and does
the exact opposite of what he did in the last
game at Case State, which is score six points and
almost put up a bagel. I do think we're gonna
see a very aggressive Houston offense here.
Speaker 7 (01:42:15):
Get some early shots.
Speaker 4 (01:42:16):
They can make those shots, and I'll be honest, I
really like Houston in this spot. I think the fact
that they're favored in the game makes me believe they're
going to win the game. I know that sounds really simplistic,
but when you're on the road in conference play High Major,
usually that home team, like we're sawing with Kentucky and
Texas tonight, right, Like Kentucky's the better team, but Texas
is favored at home. Not the case with Houston in Arizona.
Speaker 3 (01:42:37):
I'll give you two comparisons. You tell me if you
like it. You know what is it? The old line
from Anchorman.
Speaker 2 (01:42:42):
If you don't like it, just send it back my way.
Speaker 3 (01:42:47):
Caleb Love reminds me of j R.
Speaker 5 (01:42:49):
Smith.
Speaker 2 (01:42:50):
Oh the NBA player, just streaky shooter. Caleb Love. When
he's feeling it, he is, He's lights out. When he's
not feeling it like JR. Smith, it's like, oh he's.
Speaker 3 (01:43:01):
Cold right now.
Speaker 2 (01:43:02):
These cold so which Caleb Love shows up is a
big deal for today's game. And Houston, they remind me
sit down for this one. They remind me of.
Speaker 3 (01:43:14):
The Legion of Boom right.
Speaker 5 (01:43:16):
They think about.
Speaker 2 (01:43:16):
Seattle really like they would just push the envelope as
much as they could. Richard Sherman, he's getting his hands
on the wide receiver. It's almost like daring the officials
to make a call. And if they're not making calls,
it's like, okay, game on. You guys are screwed. And Houston,
how physical they are defensively? The whistles could make a
(01:43:39):
big impact in this game. Because Arizona has the top
offense in the Big Twelve, You've got Houston with the
top defense in the.
Speaker 3 (01:43:46):
Big Twelve and in the country.
Speaker 2 (01:43:49):
And if the officials are a little lax with the
whistles and they're allowing physical play, that.
Speaker 3 (01:43:54):
Is a huge deal for Houston. It's just like the
Legion of Boom.
Speaker 2 (01:43:58):
The more they get away with them, the more they're
going to just suffocate you. And so if the whistle,
if it's on the side of Arizona, that's a big
thing to watch in today's game, huge impact.
Speaker 6 (01:44:10):
Yeah, if Arizona wants to win this game, I think
what they're gonna need to do, because I agree with
what you said about Caleb Love, is they're gonna have
to loosen.
Speaker 5 (01:44:20):
Up the paint.
Speaker 6 (01:44:21):
So they're gonna need to get the ball into open
looks on the wings, hit some perimeter shots, get Houston
out of the paint a little bit, give him a
little room to cook. And that transition offense is going
to be really important if they can get to the rim.
Like you said, Houston's really good in transitions, so that's
(01:44:41):
gonna be a tall task. But you got to generate
turnovers and test that theory. But in your half court offense,
you have got to hit shots from the perimeter in
order to give Caleb Love some room. Now, Houston, I mean,
we know how they have success. They have to play
their stifling branded defense and they have to control the
pace of play.
Speaker 5 (01:45:01):
So if you're looking for a play, I like the
under here.
Speaker 6 (01:45:04):
I think that we see because Arizona we talked a
lot about their offense, pretty good defensive team, two metrically,
so two defensive teams, one who really likes to dribble
the basketball in Houston.
Speaker 5 (01:45:17):
Give me the under on this one. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:45:20):
I think this is an easy correlated play. If you
like Arizona, you bet the over on Caleb Love props.
For example, Arizona money line parlayed with Caleb Glove over
two and a half May threes is almost three to one.
I just don't see a world where Arizona wins the
game and Caleb Love doesn't have a good game. Like
There's just not a lot of scenarios where that takes place.
(01:45:41):
So you correlate those bets together. If you like Arizona,
you probably like an over. If you like Houston, you
probably like an under. If you like Arizona, you probably
like Kayleb loves props to go over. If you like Houston,
you probably like Kleb loves props to go under. Just
the way to kind of spice up the game a
little bit. I think I'd pick Houston in the game thing.
If you can find a cheap money line on Houston.
(01:46:01):
I saw minus one thirty out there. I think that's
the way I would bet it straight up. But I
do like the correlated parlay with Kleb Love going over
and Arizona winning or opposite, if that's your.
Speaker 7 (01:46:11):
Cup of tea today.
Speaker 4 (01:46:12):
It just like I was looking at the two losses
for the Big Twelve this year with Arizona zero for
seven from three oh five from three for Kaleb Love.
Speaker 7 (01:46:19):
Yeah, like it just it seems like it's low hanging fruit.
Speaker 4 (01:46:22):
If Kaleb Love shoots it well from outside, Arizona's probably
gonna win, and the opposite if they lose.
Speaker 2 (01:46:28):
One other thing is this is great Houston. Seventy is
the magic number defensively, so when they allow opponents to
score more than seventy points, they're one in four.
Speaker 5 (01:46:38):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (01:46:39):
If they hold opponents to under seventy points, they're nineteen
and oh.
Speaker 2 (01:46:43):
So wow, like the number one offense in the Big Twelve,
that's the Arizona Wildcats. Can they score seventy because they
if they can get to seventy, they're live. You know,
they're absolutely live in this game. But that's gonna be difficult.
It reminds me a bit of a game tomorrow. I'm
excited for this one crazyton at Saint John's. Saint John's
plays a similar style to Houston. They're they're tough, you know, rebounding, toughness, defense,
(01:47:10):
and so it's a bit of a clash of styles
with Creighton. Who man, they can score from the perimeter,
they can fill it up. But I'm excited for that
game tomorrow too. And I love these physical teams. It's
not just today and tomorrow to watch, but as we
get closer to March Madness, these physical, defensive oriented teams.
How much do they get away with in terms of
(01:47:31):
physical play because not every officiating crew is the same.
But it's something to watch today with Houston, it's something
to watch tomorrow with Saint John's.
Speaker 6 (01:47:39):
Yeah, with Saint John's, well, I should say, really with
with Creighton, what you need to do is use Saint
John's aggressiveness against them. So, as you mentioned, Creighton better
perimeter shooting team, but also you gotta find ways to
drive the lane to get Saint John's some of their
their rim defenders into trouble. If you start making a
(01:48:02):
little bit easier to score from inside, well you've got
a second half where you have a softer lane. So
to me, this is one of those games where you
know you gotta take some chances getting into the paint
early in this game, try to draw some.
Speaker 5 (01:48:19):
Fouls, hit your shots.
Speaker 6 (01:48:20):
Obviously, if you have an open three, look take them
up on that offer, you know, because they're good from outside.
Speaker 5 (01:48:27):
But but you want to try to find a.
Speaker 6 (01:48:29):
Way to use a strength of your opponent as a
potential liability.
Speaker 5 (01:48:35):
And I think Creyton could could exploit that.
Speaker 7 (01:48:39):
What a great year for Rick Patino man.
Speaker 4 (01:48:42):
I mean, we're gonna be talking about Satan the Johnny's
in March. They are a force defensively. I love Kadaria Richmond.
We've seen him in the tournament before with Seaton Hall.
You had that great run a couple of years ago.
They just do everything well. They're just again a well
coached team in a tough conference that play is really
solid basketball. They played Creighton tough in Omaha about two
(01:49:04):
months ago. This was actually New Year's Eve in Omaha,
and they lost by a point, so it was a
tight game. It was a low scoring game, both teams
coming off losses. I do like this Creighton team a lot.
I actually watched this Creighton team in person back in November.
They were in Vegas. They played a really tight game
against Texas A and M. Really good game actually, and
you just see the physicality of Creighton with Kalkbrenner in
(01:49:26):
the middle, I mean he is just a force and
Ashworth on the outside. Stud Pop Isaacs was a tough
loss for them. The Texas Tech transfer got hurt midseason,
but they've played well since again. That lost to Yukon
on Tuesday. That's the first loss they've had since January third.
I mean they've played again. Their losses this year. They
lost to Yukon, they lost a Marquette, tough game at Georgetown,
(01:49:47):
got blown out. Georgetown's been better this year. Lost, Obama
lost to A and M lost to San Diego State.
I mean these are all top fifty tournament type teams.
So you just haven't seen a whole lot of dip
with Creighton's level, despite the at that pop Isaacs was,
you know, the starting point guard. Great, great player. So
I do think this is gonna be a battle. Feels
like a low scoring game. Looks like the total is
gonna be around one forty. Saint John's will be about
(01:50:10):
a four to five point favorite. That's kind of where
Ken Palm has the game. I haven't really dived into
the numbers yet on it, but I would lean Saint
John's because I just think they're just a better defensive
team and I think at home Maype got a.
Speaker 7 (01:50:22):
Little bit of an edge. You get the revenge angle
as well.
Speaker 2 (01:50:25):
Man, That's the thing you mentioned Kalkbrenner down low, how
many how many shots he impacts or like nullafies not
just blocking them, but dudes will be driving toward the
basket and they're like, yeah, let's go with Plan B.
Not shooting right now, not a good option. But I
mean he he really helps that defense overall, because Steven
(01:50:48):
Ashworth is not a defender, you know what I mean.
He's an undersized guard who can shoot it like crazy,
but he's not a defensive player.
Speaker 3 (01:50:56):
But Kalkbrenner. Man, he helps Creighton's defense so much.
Speaker 2 (01:51:00):
I would love to see a stat We're all about
stats and stats and stats, but the amount of just
changed shots right where you a guy.
Speaker 3 (01:51:09):
Will literally go up to shoot it.
Speaker 2 (01:51:11):
It's not a block, but he has to alter his
shots so significantly to just get it on the rim.
You know, there should be a stat for that, right
if there should be Like these guys like yeah Wemby
or Anthony Davis in the league, or you know, like Kawkbrenner,
they affect shots, they change shots, they affect misses, and
(01:51:33):
they don't get any credit for that stats wise. I
would love to see that changed. But man, he does
if it doesn't show up in the stat sheet, he
he changes a lot of shots and helps Creyton's defense massively.
Speaker 5 (01:51:44):
I love that you brought that up.
Speaker 6 (01:51:46):
I really do, because when I watched Creighton earlier in
the season against San Diego State, I was thinking the
same exact thing. Where they're dangerous is say you have
a shooter who's really good, you know, twelve foot twelve
feet are in you know, or even fifteen feet are in.
If you have a a a defender who can who
(01:52:08):
can affect shots inside the paint from from a rim
protectors standpoint, where guys are taking shots from mid range.
Meanwhile they're better under the hoop. Well that helps you
if you have a perimeter defender who is in the
face of perimeter shooters. Somebody goes up for three to
have a hand in their eyes, like, it's it's difficult
(01:52:29):
to sink those shots. So it's it's like, how what
would be a metric that you could compare to, like
QB hurries.
Speaker 3 (01:52:37):
Okay, so yeah, you know, like sure you know if
you look.
Speaker 5 (01:52:41):
At at blocks as sacks.
Speaker 6 (01:52:44):
Yeah, I mean, obviously you're completing the act.
Speaker 5 (01:52:47):
I mean it changed.
Speaker 6 (01:52:48):
It's it's a it's an attempted shot it gets knocked down,
or it's a quarterback getting tackled to the ground and
it's a loss of yardage. But how many times is
that quarterback harassed during the course of the game and
what effect does that have on the passing game in
terms of timing with his receivers, rhythm of the throw,
ability to throw from a stable platform. Well, same thing
(01:53:09):
in basketball. If a guy is trying to shoot from
eight foot and he has to pull up at twelve,
well maybe he hits iron instead of net. So I
think that's a really great metric that somebody should look into.
I mean, it would take a long time to break
that down and somebody will look into it.
Speaker 5 (01:53:26):
Well.
Speaker 4 (01:53:27):
It's funny because you know Pro Football Focus does the
pressures thing, and then other sites have started to do
the pressures metric and there's always a difference, like there's
always a little bit of a discrepancy because sometimes it's
close and you know it's a it's a it's kind
of a call. But the Big East, I think this
is a showcase game for a conference that really is underrated.
(01:53:48):
They are the fourth best conference in America this year
it's SEC, Big Ten, Big twelve and then Biggie the A.
SEC is having a down year. So these are the
two other than Yukon obviously two time Defenny champs, but
they're having a bit of a down year too with with.
Speaker 7 (01:54:00):
The with what they lost.
Speaker 4 (01:54:01):
These are I think the two best teams in what
is a very underrated conference and a conference that really
could create some noise in March.
Speaker 2 (01:54:09):
Nice all right, that's Jared Smith FSR betting analyst Rich
Hornberger with us Penn State All American.

Speaker 5 (01:54:50):
I don't want I don't want to hear it.
Speaker 6 (01:54:52):
I want to hear I'm already in a bad suite
and I'm so mad that I didn't pay off the
Mayo bet last year because I'm at the top of
the board. I mean, I should be in the house.
I should be getting fitted for my jacket. Instead, I'm
slumming it with Brian.
Speaker 5 (01:55:06):
No, that's right, that's right.
Speaker 3 (01:55:08):
That's what happens when you don't pay your debts.
Speaker 4 (01:55:10):
We should make you two Maos interest mayonnaise interest.

It's making first field goal scorer wagers more exciting with
second Chance. What's second chance?
Speaker 5 (01:55:41):
Well? Ever? Hit ever?
Speaker 2 (01:55:42):
Bet on your favorite player to score the first field
goal on you see them make an assist to his
teammate for an easy layup.
Speaker 3 (01:55:51):
Yeah that sucks well hey?
Speaker 2 (01:55:52):
With bet MGM Second Chance, you'll get your stake back

Let's do it.
Speaker 5 (01:56:32):
Rapid fire, okay.
Speaker 2 (01:56:35):
Super fast before the picks Steaks for the football offseason
edition of Rapid Fire. Huh yeah, what are we doing?
Mayo and the coffee again? Anything else? I'm writing everything down.
What do you want the stakes to be?
Speaker 5 (01:56:48):
Here?
Speaker 4 (01:56:48):
We can we can decide on the stakes. I think
it's more the term will be at the end of
week zero. Week zero of college football will be the
last week of this one. Okay one of college football,
just like last year.
Speaker 3 (01:57:01):
Okay, that's exactly what.
Speaker 7 (01:57:02):
We did last years. Is that all in agreement? We
can we can figure out this the terms later.
Speaker 2 (01:57:06):
We need to figure out the terms, right freaking out?
Speaker 7 (01:57:10):
I think of anything better than Mayo.
Speaker 3 (01:57:12):
Mayo and the coffee. It's a staple.
Speaker 7 (01:57:14):
Yeah, all right, I would be down that mayonnaise.
Speaker 5 (01:57:18):
Man.
Speaker 2 (01:57:18):
Yeah, if you if you're finally last and it's there's
no Mayo in the coffee.
Speaker 4 (01:57:23):
Yeah, you guys have been You guys are trying to
get me to drink Mayo my coffee for three years now.
All right, here we go. I'm taking Boise State. This
is an Orenburger special. I'm taking Boise State plus two
and a half at San Diego State. Love the Road,
Revenge spot Boys. He lost at home earlier this year.
San Diego State shot really well in that game. They're
not a great shooting team.
Speaker 5 (01:57:40):
Boys.
Speaker 4 (01:57:40):
He's been good on the road, one at u n LV,
one at Wyoming, one at San Jose State, even the
match teams.
Speaker 7 (01:57:44):
I'll take the points.
Speaker 4 (01:57:45):
I love the over in this Purdue Wisconsin game, but
I like the Braiden Smith asist prompt more so I'll
give you Braiden Smith.
Speaker 7 (01:57:51):
Over seven and a half assis. It's still even odds
over at that MGM.
Speaker 4 (01:57:54):
It was plus once ti earlier when we gave it out,
so we've seen a little bit of buye on that
ten games this year with double d assist.
Speaker 7 (01:58:00):
I think the triple double is in play for brat
Smith today.
Speaker 4 (01:58:03):
Shooters shoot at home better, and I think the assists
you gotta have the shots go in. So I think
the assist prop being at Mackie makes a whole lot
of sense there.
Speaker 7 (01:58:11):
And I think Mama wins tonight.
Speaker 4 (01:58:12):
I'll take them on the money line minus won twenty
cheap money line price there.
Speaker 5 (01:58:16):
For Bama.
Speaker 4 (01:58:16):
It's a little bit of buy on Auburn today, but
I think the home cooking and tuscle loose against the
Crimson Tide home.
Speaker 6 (01:58:21):
Yeah, you know, I'll start there, Jared, because that total
is up over one hundred and seventy.
Speaker 5 (01:58:26):
I think it's one seventy two and a half.
Speaker 6 (01:58:28):
I would take the over probably up to one seventy five.
I think this is gonna be an absolute track, mate.
It's a race to one hundred for both of these squads. Now,
I'm gonna take an under on a different game we
talked about a little bit earlier.
Speaker 5 (01:58:44):
On the Houston Cougars. I think they control the clock.
Speaker 6 (01:58:48):
I think that they're gonna look to really slow this
game down against the Wildcats on the road. They're favored.
I like them on the money line. I also like
the under, so Ston Kruger's money line, give me the
under one thirty eight.
Speaker 5 (01:59:03):
I believe the total is at right now.
Speaker 6 (01:59:06):
I would probably take the under all the way down
to one thirty five.
Speaker 5 (01:59:10):
I think this is gonna be a time of possession
basketball game.
Speaker 7 (01:59:14):
All right.
Speaker 3 (01:59:14):
I'm on a couple of dogs here.
Speaker 2 (01:59:16):
Gimme coach Cal and the Razorbacks plus eight and a
half bat a and m. Yeah, big number, and they've
they've been a covering machine as of late.
Speaker 3 (01:59:25):
This is a common theme with Cal's teams.
Speaker 2 (01:59:28):
Right, they start to gel and start to hit their stride.
So I'll take them plus eight.
Speaker 7 (01:59:32):
And a half.
Speaker 2 (01:59:34):
This line, I just I'm gonna go on the with
the Knowles here. Give me them plus four and a
half versus Clemson. It just seems like a low number.
Clemson has played well as of late. Big upset against Duke.
I like the Knowles in this spot here and then listen,
far be it from me to go against the guy
who had this epic comeback.
Speaker 3 (01:59:54):
Give me Bama on the money line as well.
Speaker 2 (01:59:57):
You know, I like the Crimson tide at home holder
like a track meet as well.
Speaker 3 (02:00:01):
Enjoy the hoops, everybody h
