Speaker 2 (00:17):
The King of sports Bok.
Speaker 1 (00:18):
We're setting you up with the information you need to
watch your team win.
Speaker 3 (00:24):
Let's go.
Speaker 1 (00:26):
We're here to break it all down. God, this is
Fox Sports Radios Countdown to Kickoff, presented by bett emg app. No,
we're live from your tail game. Here's Brian Nook, former
Penn State All American, Rich Hornberger and FSR betting analyst
Jared Smith.
Speaker 4 (00:45):
Oh, welcome man. Good morning to you all as we
get you set up for a full slate of college
football action. Five count them, five ranked versus ranked games today,
not three? Right, Look at look at Christopher Fett on
his age. I was impressive potting it down before he
(01:06):
said not five. Right, that was that was slick on
the fly. Hey, listen. A lot of college football to
get to, obviously, but we have to start off with
Freddie Freeman because that was last night. I mean goodness, guys, right,
we're talking Game one of the World Series. Freddie Freeman
(01:27):
walk off Grand Slam with two outs to go in like,
that's insane what we just saw last night, and that
was the first ever walk off Grand Slam in World
Series history, and the epic call of Gibbie meet Freddy
because of course Kurt Gibson did that long time ago
(01:51):
in the late eighties, right, and now we see the
same thing with Freddy Freeman both in Game one and
that was just off the charts insanity last night, but
a ton of fun and in extra innings to boot
that was in the tenth inning and the Dodgers were
trailing by a run down to their last out. Could
not get more dramatic.
Speaker 2 (02:11):
Yeah, it really can't.
Speaker 5 (02:12):
And I'm glad that the call referenced Gibson because the crossover.
Speaker 3 (02:19):
There is undeniable, you know. Game one and then.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
By the way, that was the nineteen eighty eight.
Speaker 5 (02:27):
World Series for the Dodgers, the last World Series.
Speaker 3 (02:30):
That they've won in a full season.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
Now.
Speaker 5 (02:33):
I understand they won the pandemic World Series, but that
was a shortened season and that was a very different
set of circumstances with home field advantage being taken away
from teams, and we know how much that can have
an effect. I mean, I think we saw that effect
last night in front of a packed house in LA.
But that was just sensational everything about it. The World
(02:57):
Series more than any other sporting event because there is
time for the game to breathe, whereas opposed to an
NBA championship or a Super Bowl or even a national
championship on the court for college basketball, it doesn't feel
that way. It feels like you can really get lost
(03:17):
in the moments and hang on the drama and it's just.
Speaker 3 (03:21):
Gonna go until it's done, you know.
Speaker 5 (03:23):
And so knowing that in the back of your mind
and then seeing somebody heroically end the game the way
that Freddy Freeman did last night, that is sensational stuff.
It doesn't matter who you root for, because I'm sure
there were a lot of stomachs turned around the country
because not everybody loves the Dodgers, but you gotta love
(03:44):
seeing somebody step into a moment and make the best
of that moment. And that's exactly what Freeman did after
having kind of a tough season all season, finding his stride,
especially down the stretch for the Dodgers that was the
World Series. Has star did the exact way you wanted
to when you have two vaunted historic franchises facing each other.
Speaker 6 (04:07):
There were people that said this was gonna be the
worst World Series ever because of the two teams in it.
Speaker 2 (04:12):
Wow, you know, just the fan bases.
Speaker 6 (04:15):
And the you know, people don't like when the teams
that have the most money and the most success win.
We like the underdogs. That's the culture we live in
and my rebuttal to that. So I'm for those of
you who don't know, we don't talk a ton of
baseball and show. I'm a dieard Yankees fan since birth.
My family has been Yankees fans since their existence. And
(04:38):
when this World Series came to fruition, and that was
the take that I saw this on my timeline. Like now,
granted I'm probably on social media too much, but it.
Speaker 2 (04:48):
Was just, oh, the worst fan base is so insufferable.
Speaker 6 (04:51):
You know, money buys championships, and I'm just like people like,
these are the two most iconic teams in sports and
they're all so the two best teams this season, Like isn't.
Speaker 2 (05:03):
That what the whole point of sports is about?
Speaker 6 (05:05):
Like, give me the best on the best and let's
roll the ball out and play and see who's better.
And the MVP caliber talent in this World Series is incredible.
Speaker 2 (05:16):
We haven't had a.
Speaker 6 (05:18):
MVP in either league playing the World Series since ironically
Mookie Betts in twenty eighteen with the Red Sox, and
now he's on the other team in the other league.
We have both MVPs in both leagues. That's happened once
since nineteen eighty, so it just Obviously I'm a little
disappointed with the result of last night's game, but the
(05:39):
gravitas of this World Series is unbelievable. It's unlike anything
I've ever experienced in thirty eight years on Earth, because
I wasn't alive for those you know, ridiculous world series
back in the fifties and sixties, and when these teams
are really playing each other hard.
Speaker 2 (05:56):
And even the one in the eighties, even the one
in the late seventies. So I am. I hope it
turns around for my Yankees.
Speaker 6 (06:03):
But I'm very excited to watch this unfold because if
you don't like this World Series, then you're just not
a fan.
Speaker 2 (06:11):
You either hate yourself or you hate baseball, probably both.
Speaker 4 (06:15):
After hearing that, my thought is, I hope you didn't
bet the Yankees and the under on I bet, I
bet I didn't even lose it. Okay, I think I think.
Speaker 6 (06:24):
This is the first Baseball World Series in probably ten years,
or I'm not going to bet it.
Speaker 2 (06:29):
I want to enjoy it. I want to sit back
and want to enjoy.
Speaker 4 (06:32):
Wait a minute, you don't enjoy sports that you bet on?
Speaker 2 (06:35):
Cheered?
Speaker 4 (06:36):
I thought, that's what what we do, and it's just
not stuff.
Speaker 6 (06:39):
Enjoyment, that's the fun right out of it. Get me, No,
it's just a different This is like, it's like a
different level of emotion for me with this World Series
because I haven't I'll get a little emotion with you guys. Now,
I haven't watched the Yankees in the World Series and
so nine Obviously, my dad is the reason why I'm
a Yankees fan. My dad passed in twenty twenty, so
this is the first time I'm watching the Yankees in
the World Series without him and last. So so it's just
(07:01):
I'm just kind of recusing.
Speaker 2 (07:03):
Myself from gambling in this whole series. I'm just enjoying it.
Speaker 4 (07:06):
We get it, man, We hope you do enjoy it.
We'll see how it turns out. Because man, that was
that was a blow in Game one for the Yankees.
It was such a good game though, And really what
I thought about, and you can tie this into football, NFL,
college football, basketball, I thought about Alex Verdugo. Okay, so
(07:27):
if you didn't watch the game last night, it's this
dramatic moment in the tenth inning where there's one out,
Alex Verdugo in left field makes this sensational catch in
fall territory. He goes up, he makes the grabby falls
into the stands right. It was like it was jeteresque. Really,
that is what it was. And then the next at
(07:49):
bat Freddie Freeman, it's a Grand Slam and this epic
catches a total footnote. And so this is of course
a baseball thing, like the Ndie Javez catch for the
Mets against the Cardinals a long time ago. It goes
on and on football. What it made me think of
was the last Super Bowl. Guys, we were inches away
(08:12):
from perdy palooza.
Speaker 2 (08:14):
Oh yeah.
Speaker 4 (08:14):
Can you imagine if Brock Purdy, who led a field
goal drive in overtime, if the Niners held on to
win that game, what you would have heard. You had
purty fanboys lining up to just rage in the face
of anyone who had the slightest criticism to say it
(08:36):
would have been perty did what Mahomes couldn't do. He
scored an over time. Oh my gosh, it would have
been obnoxious. But if you spin this toward college football,
because this is mostly a college football show, what else
comes to mind? What epic moment turned into a footnote
(08:56):
because it got upstaged by the other team in another moment?
Anything come to mind for you, guys man?
Speaker 2 (09:03):
How about the.
Speaker 5 (09:06):
Uh, the Sam Darnold Trace McSorley Rose Bowl.
Speaker 2 (09:10):
That was why after the Yankees game last night, you
got to bring that.
Speaker 5 (09:14):
Up, Brandy. But so USC wins it over Penn State.
But do you remember the fireworks of that game?
Speaker 2 (09:21):
Made me.
Speaker 5 (09:23):
One of those teams, one of those players was gonna
have to be the hero that night, and it ended
up going the Trojan's way. But I mean college football.
It's beautiful about college football football is the fact that
you get so many opportunities all throughout the season, but
also all throughout the postseason with a very inflated bowl season,
(09:44):
to have these magical moments that everybody seems to remember,
you know, and you know what, it's actually it's so
funny that you you're focused on the one moment, and
and you're asking about how it applies like I remember
in my own life the same way. Freddie Freeman was
talking after the game about how him and his brothers
with two older brothers, playing wiffle ball in the backyard,
(10:07):
and it was always two outs. It was always the
bottom of the ninth or the extra innings in the
World Series, where you set it up in your backyard
that you're going to deliver the run that wins the
game for your team. And for him to actually go
out there and do it, he said, it's just as
good as it gets. And I remember myself as a
(10:27):
young kid, and basketball was my sport growing up, and
then I moved on to lacrosse, and then I moved
on too football, and that's the sport I ended up
playing in college and professionally. But how many times I
pretended I was just like Mike and I was in
my driveway dribbling the basketball and counting down the shot
clock to win the NBA Championship.
Speaker 2 (10:49):
It's just the way sports work.
Speaker 5 (10:52):
You see moments like this, Freddie Freeman walking it off,
you see any of those college football moments that come
to mind for you while listening to this and and
there are kids, I promise you in their backyards waking
up this morning and they're gonna be doing the same
exact thing, and those are gonna be the heroes in
twenty years.
Speaker 2 (11:11):
I love I love all this stuff.
Speaker 5 (11:14):
I mean, you know the line from Moneyball, It's hard,
it's hard not to get romantic about baseball because this
is what it is, this is the reason why we watch.
And what a start to the World Series. I am
so fired up for a great weeknd a college football
after getting getting to dip our toes into the Major
League Baseball postseason's closing show, I.
Speaker 6 (11:36):
Got one for you. Yeah, Bama Georgia twenty eighteen title.
Mikael Hartman had the eighty r touchdown in the third
quarter for Georgia up twenty to seven. Yeah, and then
Bama comes back, ties it and then debouta Smith in
overtime from Tua.
Speaker 2 (11:50):
That was sweet.
Speaker 4 (11:51):
That's yeah, And that's right, that's in the where Georgia
is what like eighty It was a touchdown last nineteen
eighty the last time they had all championship, you know
what I mean?
Speaker 6 (12:04):
Drout Yeah, yeah, that was and I remember that game.
Speaker 4 (12:08):
Touchdown long championship drought.
Speaker 3 (12:10):
My bad.
Speaker 6 (12:11):
Sorry, I remember that game, and I mean that was
like a ninety percent I'm looking at the box score now,
Georgia at the peak at a ninety two and a
half percent win probability. Yeah, and then lost the game
in overtime. That was a nut That was a nutty
college football final.
Speaker 5 (12:29):
And that was when Tua finished game. But Jalen Hurts started. Yeah,
that's right, Yeah, I believe it's god, Oh my god,
you're absolutely that that. That game had so many storylines.
By the end of it, it was OsO.
Speaker 2 (12:41):
Yeah, Jalen hur went three of eight. Yeah, and he
was hurt, he had the ankle or something.
Speaker 5 (12:46):
And then Tua, who was the kid, he was a
sophomore or whatever, he comes into the game in the
second half and he pulls it off. Saban looked like
he was insane coming out of the tunnel at halftime,
and then he was basically carried out of.
Speaker 2 (12:58):
The state in Georgia.
Speaker 6 (13:00):
Dudes in that Georgia's roster in that game, Now, Jake
from the quarterback won't move the needle, but they had
Sony Michelle, Nick Chubb, DeAndre Swift, Miko Hardman's the one
who had the eighty r catch like that Georgia was
I mean both teams obviously back Najia Harris about this
Smith Calvin Ridley Ruggs on the other side, Damien Harris
like that.
Speaker 2 (13:17):
That might have been the best college football game in
our in our life.
Speaker 4 (13:20):
That was insid good ball, that was insane. I mean,
you could play that game forever where there there have
to be so many moments. Of course I go straight
to Notre Dame and like this, they're better moments than
you know. But I still am scarred from ninety three
when Notre Dame scored this dramatic touchdown against Boston College
(13:42):
to keep an undefeated season alive. That was the week
after they beat Florida State and the number one versus
number two. Yeah, and the next thing I know, Boston
College is like steadily moving it downfield, just nickel and
diming and then kicking the walk off field goal. Stuff
like that where you think, oh, this is gonna be
an epic moment, and it's just a footnote, you know,
(14:03):
because it gets upstaged. You remember real fast. Remember when
I think it was LSU against Kentucky, they gave the
gatorade bath to the Kentucky coach.
Speaker 6 (14:16):
That was one of the I don't know, but.
Speaker 4 (14:20):
It was this crazy deflected hail Mary And the next
thing you know, Lsu is running into the end zone
as the Kentucky coach has gatorade all over him.
Speaker 2 (14:31):
Like watch the Bluegrass Miracle. That's on Wikipedia.
Speaker 4 (14:38):
Yeah, there are some Alex Verdugo moments in college football
where what seems to be an epic moment gets upstaged
and the previous epic moment is no longer quite an
epic moment, right, Like, that's the way it goes. But

(16:36):
So we've got Missouri ranked number twenty one against Alabama
ranked fifteenth, and Alabama is the five and two team.
Missouri is the six and one team. And how about
this for Bama. They haven't They've already lost twice in October. Okay,
and the last time that Alabama lost two games in
(16:58):
the same calendar you have to go all the way
back to November of two thousand and seven. How about that,
we're talking November of seven. Since they've lost twice in
the same calendar month, they have a chance today to
lose for a third time. I doubt it happens against
Missouri with their injury issues, most notably Brady Cook, the
(17:20):
quarterback's got an ankle injury. He's gonna try to go,
but I seem like he's closed to one hundred percent.
I don't know how long he'll last in the game,
assuming he does go in the first place. So it's
probably a Bama win. But this is territory that Bama
fans are not too used to. You're talking seventeen years,
they haven't watched their team lose twice in a calendar month.
(17:42):
They have this year though.
Speaker 2 (17:44):
Loot at stake for both these teams.
Speaker 5 (17:47):
When you look at Alabama three losses, I mean, that
is gonna be a hard argument to make the playoffs,
even with the expanded bracket. And then you look at Missouri,
and Missouri's issues are I mean, even though they only
have one loss, they had to come back from an
eleven point deficit to beat Auburn and they got their
(18:08):
doors blown off by Texas.
Speaker 3 (18:11):
So they need this.
Speaker 5 (18:13):
Win like blood because the matchup is really an elimination
for the conference, you know, I mean, just like Boise
State UNLV actually last night, you know, you look at
that game in terms of the implications of a playoff
seed for one of these two teams.
Speaker 2 (18:32):
Boise State beats UNLV.
Speaker 5 (18:36):
It was a close one, came down to the last
minute with Gen d the runaway favorite.
Speaker 2 (18:43):
For the Heisman.
Speaker 5 (18:44):
In my opinion, he is the best player in the
country right now, had one of his lowest output games
the game on the ground with one hundred and twenty
eight runching yards and a touchdown.
Speaker 2 (18:54):
But I digress.
Speaker 5 (18:55):
I mean UNLV needed that win to remain in the
conversation to make the playoffs. So does Alabama like that
that is that is where we're at with Alabama.
Speaker 2 (19:04):
You they cannot lose.
Speaker 5 (19:07):
This game, and and so it's amazing how like here
we are. I mean, we're at the halfway point of
the season and and this game matters as much as
any game they're gonna play in the playoff if they
make the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (19:21):
Yeah, the number in this game's been bouncing around the
last day or so because of the Brady Cook News.
Speaker 6 (19:27):
So I gave I actually gave Alabama on our I
do you know the Friday best bet video for bet
MGM that we send out on our Fox Sports Radio
social channels, And I was writing up Bama and I.
Speaker 2 (19:37):
Was like, man, I really like this spot for Bama.
Speaker 6 (19:39):
And then the Brady Cook News comes out right after
I give out the pick, the line jumps two points.
So I still think Bama's decided in this game. I
this number is just screaming Bama, like what.
Speaker 2 (19:52):
Have we seen?
Speaker 6 (19:52):
Like they were a three touchdown dog or a three
touchdown favorite against Vandy, lose out right field goal favorite
last week, lose that Tennessee and now they're laying almost
three touchdowns again. I Mean people are probably looking at
this line like ranked versus ranked, and let's be honest,
people ignore the rankings.
Speaker 2 (20:10):
The rankings are meaningless.
Speaker 6 (20:11):
The only number that matters is the one that comes
after the team, not before the team, which is the
point sport. But you just look at this Missouri team
and I think when they manage up, they're a pumpkin
happy Halloween.
Speaker 2 (20:24):
Everybody like it.
Speaker 6 (20:26):
Just when they go on the road in SEC play.
They've done it this year one time in really bad fashion.
They're one high leverage road game in the SEC, fall
behind thirty four nothing, lose by thirty one at A
and M. So to me, that's who Missouri is at
their core. They're a good football team that doesn't play
(20:51):
great when they manage up. I think Bama is a
good football team that has the ability to beat anybody
on any given Saturday because they have the magician in the.
Speaker 2 (21:01):
Backfield, Jalen Milroe.
Speaker 6 (21:03):
Now sometimes it could be like the street magic you
see on the since in the Las Vegas Boulevard with the.
Speaker 2 (21:10):
Three card Moni.
Speaker 6 (21:11):
But when he's right, this is an explosive Bama offense.
Speaker 2 (21:16):
Missouri's defense has actually.
Speaker 6 (21:17):
Been really good at limiting explosives this year, but against
SEC play they have not like They've given up sixteen
explosives on the ear that's the second fewest in the nation.
But in three SEC games, eleven of those sixteen explosives
have come. So when they manage up it just I
don't like this Missouri team against good competition. That's where
(21:40):
I think they struggle and Bama needs this game like blood.
As has Rich said, I love that phrase so much.
I think the Tide roll here, I really do.
Speaker 4 (21:50):
I haven't thought of Jalen Milroe as a street performer
till now.
Speaker 6 (21:55):
Right, but right, go walk down Las Vegas Boulevard on
a Friday night.
Speaker 2 (21:59):
You'll see what I'm talking.
Speaker 4 (22:00):
Every artists some are some are completely legit. Right, someone's
like break dancing on his own face, and you're like,
and so sometimes Milroe is like that. He's extraordinary at times.
And then to your point, Jared, every now and then
you get the street performer where you're like, this guy
is a total scammer totally. So yeah, every now and
(22:24):
then Jalen Milroe is inaccurate and not nearly as dynamics.
So it's a mixed bag. I'll tell you what it's going.
It's not gonna be a mixed bag. It's going to
be a bad bag if Brady Cook can't go and listen.
I don't want to disparage anyone, but Drew Pine. We
(22:46):
turned into Boomer real fast. You know, if he's going
in enemy territory with Bama already losing twice in the
same calendar month, straight off of a loss Tennessee, that's
that's really bad. If it's territory here.
Speaker 5 (23:05):
Yeah, yeah, And and look, Jalen Milroe is a better
quarterback than he's shown against two of arguably the better
defenses you're gonna see in college football, with South Carolina
and Tennessee. You know, those those are good coverage units.
Those are teams that you know, there's a variety of
(23:26):
things you'll see with both of them. You know, a
confluence of philosophies of how to attack Jalen Milroe and
keep those Alabama explosives down.
Speaker 6 (23:37):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (23:37):
Sometimes you'll sit back and.
Speaker 5 (23:38):
Coverage and you know you'll force him to evaluate the
field and throw underneath. Sometimes you'll blitz him and the
same the same outcome is being produced. You get pressure
on Milroe, he's gonna have to throw it to somebody
quickly closer to the line of scrimmage, and both of
those strategies have worked against uh USC and Tennessee. Against
(24:01):
against this Missouri defense, They're gonna allow much more downfield,
and Milroe his dependence on the deep ball and Alabama's
dependence offensively on the deep ball, I don't think he's
gonna be thwarted. I think they're gonna kind of If
I'm reading this game correctly, I agree with you, Jared.
I think this is Bama again and rolling again. I
(24:24):
think this is the Crimson Tide looking like the prominent
national figure that you know, they were building themselves up
to be before they had some hiccups this season, and
so I think this is a little bit of a Hey,
you know what, they've got an injury at their most
(24:44):
important position. We're healthy, and we're facing a defense that's
gonna allow us to do what we want to do.
Let's roll, and I think that's essentially what happens with Bama.
Speaker 2 (24:54):
Yeah, that's a good breakdown. I like that analysis a lot.
Speaker 6 (24:58):
I think when you look get what Bama is as
a team, this is a matchup that favors them, where
Tennessee didn't favor them. Like Tennessee, they just they're just
so helter skelter on both sides of the ball. It's
very hard to prepare for that. I every college football
podcast I listened to with like really sharp people, every
(25:21):
time you're getting ready to play Tennessee, every vibe is
this is the toughest prep that you're gonna have. And
Kalin de Bor is kind of in this in between
period right now with Bama. I think Bama's in a
really interesting spots as a program right now. It just
we thought the board was gonna come in and it
was gonna click right away, or maybe you were down
(25:43):
on them heading into the year, whatever your opinion was.
Speaker 2 (25:45):
I think the problem.
Speaker 6 (25:46):
Was, or at least what I'm what I'm analyzing with
Alabama so far as they're kind of caught in betwixt
and in between. Like for example, this is what I mean.
Washington really liked to run wide zone last year. That
was like their heavy run concept under the bore, and
they were really good at it. They had panics in
the pistol and they had these great backs and they
(26:07):
would spread you out with these receivers and they would
just run the edge, crush the edges with these runs. Well,
now we've got Jalen Noilroe, who's not a wide zone quarterback,
he's shotgun quarterback zone right RPO type stuff. And Rich,
I'm sure you can attest to this, the difference in
schemes blocking schemes going from wide zone to.
Speaker 2 (26:30):
RPO zone. Read, it's like night and day.
Speaker 5 (26:33):
It's completely different, exactly set a different circumstances.
Speaker 2 (26:37):
Wide zone it's such a sideline.
Speaker 5 (26:40):
To sideline game where you know, the play could literally
break at any point. It could break as far out
as the short alley near the sideline between the twenties
and the sideline, or it could be cut all the
way back the opposite direction, or anything in between. With
the RPO game, like you're saying, Jared, a lot of kidders,
(27:00):
you know, a lot of eye discipline, especially at the
second level from your linebackers.
Speaker 3 (27:05):
It is night and day in terms of scheme fit.
Speaker 6 (27:08):
Yeah, so you've got pretty much it's like the boor
square peg, round hole. And I'm not gonna say that
the Boor won't figure it out, but he obviously it's
a little bit. He's kind of cut in between with
how he wants to get this offense rolling. And then
you've got Jalen Milroe, who I love, but he's limited.
He doesn't make full field progressions, slow processing speed right, Like,
(27:30):
it's just it's boom or bust.
Speaker 2 (27:32):
It just it. It feels like the boor.
Speaker 6 (27:34):
Last year with Pennix, it was read one, read two,
read three, maybe back to read four and then you
know progressions. So it's a it's a learning curve. And
I think Kalen de Boor is a great coach. I
think he's gonna figure this out. They have better players
at Baman. They had a Washington but this is only
what a seventh eighth game. It's gonna take some time.
And then you get the personality differences. Nick Saban was
(27:58):
like mister football, hard heart, Oh like hard old school football.
Speaker 2 (28:04):
That's not Kaylen de Boor.
Speaker 6 (28:06):
They're a little bit more loosey, goosey. That's their personality.
That's Kaylen de Boor's personality. He's a little more low
key compared to Nick Saban, who's just like, like from
what I've heard, he's kind of the anti Saban. So
this takes time. You have a program that has been
you know, at the top of college football forever and
now they're changing.
Speaker 4 (28:26):
Man listening to you guys betwixt thwarted. Good lord, you
Penn State scholars. You my gosh, I thought this was
a locker room. It turned into like an assembly or
something like.
Speaker 2 (28:38):
Wow, smart football talk.
Speaker 3 (28:40):
This is wow alright.
Speaker 4 (28:42):
Speaking of smart, you know, we've got our guy, Isaac
Lowen Tron. He is always smart, well read, and can
dumb it down to a locker room level as well.
And that has a compliment.
Speaker 2 (28:52):
What's going on?
Speaker 7 (28:53):
I low in reverse order, I lead with dumbing it down.
By the way, the name of the show the show
well now we renamed the college Football Algonquin Roundtable after
the last segment and all the multi syllabic words. Fella's
Game one of the World Series on Friday night saw
the Los Angeles Dodgers trailed the Yankees three to two
(29:13):
with two out of the bottom of the tenth inning,
but the Dodgers had the bases loaded for Freddy Freeman sports.
Speaker 2 (29:19):
As the.
Speaker 5 (29:32):
Game sounds, those are the kind of things when you're
five years old and.
Speaker 8 (29:37):
Your two older brothers can play football in the backyard.
Speaker 5 (29:39):
And the scenaries of scenarios kinda dream about base loaded
to out in the Light Series game and for it
to actually happen and hit a home run and walk
it off to give us one nothing lead.
Speaker 3 (29:51):
That's that's as good as it gets right there.
Speaker 7 (29:54):
The excitement over Freeman's grand slam home run to win
the game extending all the way to the Los Angeles
Public Library Fellas, which tweeted after the home run and
I quote, free books for Freddie Freeman for life unquote.
Speaker 4 (30:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (30:12):
Think about that, America for a moment. Meanwhile, I decided
to look at some of the comments underneath that tweet,
Talia posting quote, aren't all your books free for everyone? Dan,
you're a public library, All the books are free to everyone?
And Cleo commenting, Wait, aren't the books free for everyone?
Speaker 2 (30:34):
Ahi? Yes, are the books free? Isaac?
Speaker 7 (30:37):
Well, last time I checked her. I'll Simon in big
trouble in the NBA on Friday night, Anthony Davis scored
thirty five as the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Phoenix
Suns one twenty three to one, sixteen first two and
oh start for the Lakers in fourteen years. Brandon Ingram
the game winning jumper with four point nine to play,
giving New Orleans a one five, one to oh three
victory at Portland and the Golden State Warriors Utah by
(31:00):
forty one points one twenty seven to eighty six. Buddy
Heald scored twenty seven off the bench, including seven to
three pointers.
Speaker 4 (31:07):
Guys, well, thank you, I lo it is Fox Sports
Radios Compdown to Kickoff, presented by Bett MGM. How about
the Hoosiers? Okay, cliffs notes version over here right, twenty
four seconds on the shot clock for everybody, but uh,
you know, a little love for the Hoosiers. Seven and
zero rank number thirteen in the country, taken on Washington.
(31:28):
Washington is four and three. This is an early kicktime.
But Indiana without their starting quarterback Curtis Rourke had thumb surgery.
He might only miss this game. There's some optimism he's
only out for one game, but this is a big game.
Tavan Jackson, He's got five career starts. He steps in
in place of Curtis Rourke and the Hoosiers try to
(31:50):
keep it going. Their defense has been pretty impressive, but
this is the first offense. This is the best offense
on paper that they'll face so far. Washington can move
the ball. They're just having all sorts of problems in
the red zone. They cannot get it done in the
red zone, but they can move it. So we'll see
what this Indiana defense has in store. And how about
this college game day is over there, first time ever
(32:11):
in Bloomington. Wow, and they've got a backup quarterback going.
So hey, we'll see if they can march toward eight
and O keep it going. But this is a different
this is a different place for IU with expectations, with
all this positivity going on here football wise, and we'll
see if they can keep the train moving for another week.
Speaker 5 (32:31):
Yeah, Washington is in a rebuild season. They lost some
incredibly talented football players and they're trying to get back
on track. They have a really efficient quarterback, but they're
going into a hornet's nest. I mean, this team has
been rolling in Bloomington, and even though it's s Tavin
Jackson taking over at quarterback, he's been efficient when he's
(32:55):
been in this season. Really short sample size, really short
sample size. I think he's thrown sixteen passes on the year,
and he wasn't particularly good before this year.
Speaker 2 (33:05):
So we'll see what we have.
Speaker 5 (33:06):
My guess is, if I were to guess what the
plan's gonna be for Indiana today, run the football. You know,
a lot of snaps to Ellison and Lawton, who if
you look at the yards per carry they're eating. The
problem is Indiana didn't want to do that because they
didn't really have to do it, and it's not really
(33:26):
what their DNA was throughout the course of the season
so far.
Speaker 2 (33:31):
But you got to make adjustments.
Speaker 5 (33:32):
You got to take the pressure off of a guy
stepping into a role for the first time this season.
Speaker 3 (33:37):
And so that's what that's my guess.
Speaker 5 (33:39):
I think you're gonna see, not necessarily Indiana trying to
slow the game down, but they will end up shortening
the game with lessing completions and keeping the ball in
their running backs hands over the course of the day today.
Speaker 2 (33:55):
That's what I would do.
Speaker 6 (33:56):
You might hear one or two of the Indiana running
backs names during the pro segment we're going to do
in about an hour. Ellison and Lawton have been really
good this year, and Washington really struggles to stop the run.
Here's a here's a nice nugget. I was actually doing
some research on Jackson this morning. I did not know
that he was related to Drace Jackson Davis, the Indiana
(34:17):
All American.
Speaker 2 (34:19):
He's his little brother. I mean that.
Speaker 3 (34:22):
Listen, you want to.
Speaker 2 (34:22):
Talk about Indiana Royalty.
Speaker 6 (34:24):
Yeah, you're the little brother of a former basketball All
American that's now in the NBA. I'd say you're in
pretty good shape. I don't know about his game. He's
attempted eighteen passes this year. Last year he attempted one
hundred and twenty eight passes. He was a, you know, an.
Speaker 2 (34:41):
Average quarterback in the backup ranks.
Speaker 6 (34:43):
But I don't I don't think he's going to be
the reason, at least if Indiana and Kurt Signetty have
their way.
Speaker 2 (34:52):
He is not the reason why they win or lose
this game. He's just steady ship, keep.
Speaker 6 (34:57):
The keep the ship afloat hand, the ball off to
what I think is a very above average Indiana run game.
Their offensive line, you don't think of trenches with Indiana.
They are a really good offensive line, one of the
best in college football in terms of the sack ratio.
Now maybe that's because of how slick their design is
(35:18):
on offense, but this is a tough This is a
tough offense to defend. Kurt Signetty, he wins Google him,
and yeah, I don't know if I I don't know
if I love this spot for Indiana because of all
the hoopla that you mentioned, Brian, But I don't think
Washington's a very good football team, so I would not
expect them to come in to Bloomington to win this game.
Speaker 2 (35:40):
But I guess crazier things have happened.
Speaker 4 (35:42):
Yeah, right, And hey man, when you get the physicality
advantage right there, like running the football for IU and
not being able to stop the run for Washington, that's
a great way. That's like a hype destroyer, you know
what I mean that in a good sense for IU. Right,
if you've got that to lean on, sometimes the hype
gets the best of you. There's all this Hooplather's seven
(36:04):
or zero?
Speaker 2 (36:04):
What was it?
Speaker 4 (36:05):
Rat poison that Nick Saban used to say, Like you start,
you know, believing all the hype. If you can just
physically whoop your opponent, that has a great way of
negating the hype and that could really help by you today.
All right, we've got Rich Ornberger Penn State, All American.
We've got Jared Smith FSR betting analyst. I'm Brian No
(36:28):
coming up next to par Lay Platter. Jared has been
hard at work. We'll see what he has to unveil
for us. It's Fox Sports Radios Countdown to Kickoff, presented
by BETMGM. It is Fox Sports Radios Countdown to Kickoff
presented by BETMGM. Every time you make a wager at BETMGM,
you earn BETMGM rewards points that can be redeemed for
(36:49):
things like bonus bets or converted to MGM rewards points
that can be used towards dining shows and hotel rooms
at over twenty MGM resorts. All right, let's do this.
Speaker 1 (37:01):
Check this out r late Ladder.
Speaker 4 (37:05):
All right, Jared's been hard at work. What's this week's platter?
Speaker 2 (37:09):
Looking like?
Speaker 9 (37:09):
Buddy?
Speaker 6 (37:10):
I was close to putting Wisconsin moneyline in the plotter
this week.
Speaker 2 (37:14):
Guys, that's how they've been hurried.
Speaker 6 (37:15):
I am about this game with Penn State later, but
I abstained from fade.
Speaker 2 (37:20):
And maybe it was more last night my favorite team losing.
I was like, man, am I gonna have back to
back days if my team's losing. I didn't go there.
I didn't go there, but I'm worried about the game.
Speaker 6 (37:31):
We could talk about it later during our therapy session,
but I did not put Wisconsin money line.
Speaker 2 (37:36):
In the parlay. I did put BYU moneyline in the parlor.
We did not talk about this game off the top.
Let's talk about it now.
Speaker 6 (37:43):
BYU undefeated, top fifteen team going to UCF today was
under five hundred, and guess who is favored?
Speaker 2 (37:52):
Not the undefeated team.
Speaker 6 (37:53):
Kind of makes you scratch your head. I just I
look at this game and I just see a lot
of variants. And that's why I'm taking the dog. I mean,
I know U see F runs it really well. By
you can stop the run really well. And everything about
this game is saying, oh BYU there. You know, you know,
travel and going across time zones, and this is that. Guys,
(38:15):
they're like twenty five year old like men going on
Mormon missions.
Speaker 2 (38:20):
Like you think they're worried about traveling across the country,
I'm not.
Speaker 6 (38:23):
They're an experienced team. They arrived in Florida day early.
I like the quarterback. I'm a little bit concerned about
UCF's boom or bust offense. That's why we're going BYU
on the money line here as a short dog. These
two are much bigger underdogs, and that's that's why we're
gonna get this parlay up to a pretty reasonable number here.
I'm gonna think Georgia State on the money line against
app State. Another high variance game, both teams coming off
(38:44):
long rest. Georgia State's about a touchdown dog here. App
State hasn't played in two weeks. Georgia State played last Thursday.
But this is the reason that I like, and it's
kind of going against the emotion of it. This is
app State's first home game since the hurricane.
Speaker 2 (38:58):
I think there's just.
Speaker 6 (38:58):
A lot of distractions going on homecoming and all the
things that are going to be happening pre game. And
I think Georgia State, they've played a couple of tough
games over the last couple of weeks.
Speaker 2 (39:08):
I think they're ready for this challenge.
Speaker 6 (39:09):
I don't think App State is, so I'll take Georgia
State on the money line. Finally, another high variance game
between two bad teams.
Speaker 2 (39:16):
We like dogs in those spots.
Speaker 6 (39:18):
Temple at ECU, we are fading the pirates after the
firing of Mike Houston.
Speaker 2 (39:23):
Listen, both these teams are bad. I'm not gonna get
on a high horse and say how good Temple is, but.
Speaker 6 (39:28):
I get look at look at you see his last
two games They've lost one hundred and fifty two.
Speaker 2 (39:33):
To Army and Charlotte. Now I know Army is good,
Charlotte's not. Temple's coming off a ten point win against Tulsa.
Speaker 6 (39:40):
They've held their own against Yukon, who stinks slightly less
than Tulsa, but overall two bad teams.
Speaker 2 (39:45):
We like the dog.
Speaker 6 (39:46):
Same thing with Georgia State. We like the dog against
Apps State and the fade everyone who thinks this game
is a stinky line. Play of the week BYU on
the money line keeps their undefeated season alive against UCF.
Speaker 2 (39:57):
Twenty three to one. O this Barlo b Yu Georgia
State Temple, who ruins it?
Speaker 3 (40:03):
Man?
Speaker 2 (40:04):
I know everyone can ruin this. Anybody could ruin it.
Speaker 5 (40:07):
I mean the nights they're looking for revenge after a
really tough loss against Iowa State, right, I mean it's possible.
Speaker 4 (40:22):
I think this cash is with these you know, let's
go there? You coming up next? Will the dog be
barking again?
Speaker 2 (40:31):
Oh? What is going on?
Speaker 4 (40:33):
We are two hours away from kickoff here and we've
got some tasty matchups five ranked versus ranked How about
we dive into this Texas v. Vanderbilt matchup huh. And
you know what's crazy to me, guys, is how quickly
things can change in college football. Think about heading into
(40:54):
last week's game when Texas was hosting Georgia. Texas was
the number one team. Texas had all the hype, all
the hooplah and Georgia they were the team facing their
second loss. Instead, Georgia wins the game and now they're
the number two team in the country. Georgia has two
(41:15):
first place votes in the AP poll. Meanwhile, Texas, they
dropped the game last week, they fall down to number five,
and it's funny to see them facing Vanderbilt where Alabama
lost earlier. And if Texas drops their second game and
one of them is to Vanderbilt, all of a sudden,
(41:37):
we're like, are they gonna sneak into the playoff?
Speaker 2 (41:39):
Now?
Speaker 4 (41:39):
They're healthy favorites. They're favored by seventeen and a half
right now on BETMGM. So it would take an Alabama
like upset for Vandy to pull this one out. But
the point is how quickly things can change. And what
looked like a NonStop, an unstoppable machine for the Longhorns
(42:03):
that showed it is stoppable, at least for one week
going up against the Dogs last.
Speaker 5 (42:07):
Week, Yeah, there are some flaws and maybe unlucky is
a better way to describe it, because injuries are really
the focus here. Quinn Ewers didn't look quite the same
prior to the injury. Now on the other side in
your injury, the abdominal strain. So we'll see where we're
at with that storyline. And a lot of people are
(42:28):
gonna be concentrating on how Texas responds after its loss
against Georgia, but it's important to realize what Vanderbilt has
done so far this season. I mean, you look at
the Commodoores. This is their first RAND team in over
a decade since James Franklin was.
Speaker 3 (42:45):
On the sideline for Vandy.
Speaker 5 (42:47):
You look at the things that they do really well,
and it's gonna.
Speaker 3 (42:51):
Be strength on strength.
Speaker 5 (42:52):
And I'll explain it from Texas's standpoint in a second,
But the Commodores are really good in late down situations
and it's because of their quarterback, Diego Pavia. He is
a magician on third and fourth down. When there's a
gotta have a play, he makes the play. He's great
(43:13):
with his legs, he's great with his arms. He's made
some big time throws in those moments throughout the season
for Vandy, and so as a result, they've been able
to extend drives. Their only two losses have came in
games where they didn't win the time of possession. Their
five wins they won time of possession. So it really
(43:36):
comes down to their quarterback bailing them out in those
incredibly critical situations. And he does it on long yardage
orge short yarded situations in those crucial third and fourth downs. However,
I mentioned its strength on strength. Texas really really good
on third and fourth down. In fact, there's only one
(43:56):
team who's better than them so far this season, and
that's Notre Dame.
Speaker 2 (44:01):
So it's strength on strength. Can't wait to watch this game.
Speaker 5 (44:05):
Uh, you got Quinne, you were trying to get back
off the you know, the injury and look like himself.
This is gonna be a fascinating game to take a
look at. And I think we'll know early if it's
gonna be a dogfight or if it's gonna be a
dominant performance by what we consider, you know, a nationally
(44:25):
dominant team. It's it's gonna be a fascinating game to
watch though.
Speaker 6 (44:30):
Yeah, what's the Dennis green quote, they are who we
thought they were. Maybe Texas isn't who we thought they were.
Speaker 2 (44:36):
Hmmm that.
Speaker 6 (44:37):
I think that was my biggest takeaway from last week
is we thought they were about the hook.
Speaker 2 (44:43):
Love love that line.
Speaker 6 (44:45):
So maybe maybe Texas's schedule Colorado State, Utsa, Monroe, Mississippi State, Oklahoma, Michigan. Yeah,
maybe not Murderer's Row. And then they may Georgia and
it's just you gotta give Kirby Smart a lot of credit.
He was very aggressive defensively in that game. I did
(45:08):
not expect Georgia to go into Austin and houle Texas
to the teams in points. I love der analysis on
the Vandy offense Rich That's where I started my prep
on this game. Tim Beck, the OC for Vandy's done
an incredible job. Jerry Kill consultant might have heard that name.
Legendary coach all over the all over the map.
Speaker 2 (45:28):
I think New Mexico State was his last stop. But
they've completely remodeled this offense.
Speaker 6 (45:33):
Their Their goal with this offense is to drag you
through the mud because they don't have these like elite
weapons on the outside. They want a Nicolindamya drag you down,
bring you into the river and drown you like that's
their goal. It's an intermediate passing game. Povey has got
this moxie to him where he's a really clutch quarterback.
(45:54):
He's got a passing grade over ninety on third and
fourth downs. You mentioned that those late down matchups are
going to be obviously crucial in this game. He also
leads a team in rushing, so he is the guy.
They do have one weapon on the outside. I'd call
him more of an in line guy. The tight end
Stours is an absolute rock star. Texas defense was good
last week against Georgia. Texas defense is off the problem
they lost to that game. They all Georgia on are
(46:15):
three hundred total yard, but they were put in some
bad spots by the offense and the special teams. I
don't think Texas's counting stats on defense are as good
as what we're seeing right like number one in yards
per playing yards per game. I don't think they're the
number one defense in college football. I think they're a
very good defense. Two issues this week, Andrew mccooba starting
(46:35):
safety out he got hurt in the game. He's probably
was gonna be the guy that was gonna guard Stowers.
They also have another starting safety, Derek Williams, who got
hurt versus Oklahoma, So they're down two guys in the secondary,
two guys.
Speaker 2 (46:45):
Probably that with defense.
Speaker 6 (46:46):
Tours Texas offense another story like like Sark told us
in the offseason, he was not gonna play arch Manning
unless Youwers got hurt.
Speaker 2 (46:54):
What did he do last week?
Speaker 6 (46:56):
He benched Jewers for arch Manning, opening up a whole
can of worm. I don't know what to make of
the Texas offense, guys. I have no idea what yours
as headspace is, where the locker room is on yours
compared to arch. I think start kind kind of screwed
the pooch last week, unless yours really is hurt.
Speaker 2 (47:12):
But if it was just a.
Speaker 6 (47:14):
Productivity benching, this is going to be an interesting matchup
on Texas for offense.
Speaker 4 (47:20):
You know what's funny to me is when we say, hey,
this team, they played down to the level of their competition.
Normally it's a top team like Texas. You know, it's
a top five team, and maybe they sleep walk through
their lesser matchups. It's been Vanderbilt this year, right, So
Vandy they lost to Georgia State. They weren't impressive last
(47:41):
week against Ball State, but good news Vandy fans for
a monster game against Texas today. What they have done
in their bigger matchups? Will they beat number one Alabama?
They beat Virginia Tech. Vanderbilt played number six Missouri at
the time, very tough on the road, lost by a
field goal. So I just think it's funny. We're like
(48:03):
I have Vandy. They played down to the level of
their competition. We're used to Vandy being as down as
it gets, but that's what we've seen. But hey man,
they've gotten up. They've been giant killers so far. And
that's the thing. It's one thing to and I'm not
taking credit away, it's one thing to sneak up on
someone to do it now after beating Alabama like Texas
(48:26):
not sleepwalking through this game at all, especially after a loss.
So it's going to make life a lot more difficult
for Vanderbilt today.
Speaker 5 (48:34):
So I've watched a lot of Texas like everybody else.
And when you look at yours against Oklahoma and a
win probably one of his worst performances of the year,
you know, you look at the loss to Georgia, I mean,
that may have been one of the worst games of
his career. And then I want to get inside the
(48:56):
mentality of an injured player, especially one in the situa
suation that quinni Ors is in. So not only are
you hurt and your team needs you desperately to rise
to the challenge of, you know, beating this scrappy team
who's really come out of nowhere in the new conference
that you just joined. You gotta play exceptionally well, and
(49:20):
you're playing hurt. So you're looking at this situation through
the eyes of a guy who's like, I can do it,
but you know, whatever it is, my ribs or this
ab isn't quite healed, and I'm trying to force things
because guess what, he has the best backup quarterback in
college football breathing down his neck in arch Manning. That
(49:42):
puts you in a really tough spot mentally. So you're
thinking to yourself, Man, I'm holding on for dear life anyway,
because everybody wants to see this legacy, this prodigal sun
take over, and I'm trying to keep this guy away.
Speaker 2 (50:00):
And then all of a sudden, I have this injury
to deal with too.
Speaker 5 (50:03):
Yeah, I mean, you know, some of the turnover worthy
throws that he's had could be a result of him,
you know, either a trying to do too much and
try to do too much, hurt to keep the backup
off the field, or it's b the injury is worse
than we thought it was. He rushed back to the
field because he realizes he's about to get wally pipped
(50:26):
and it's not the best thing for Texas because he's
not healthy enough to do it yet and he may
get exposed against Vandy. So that is something to watch.
See how comfortable Quinn Eewers looks in the first half
of this game.
Speaker 3 (50:41):
It's gonna tell you a lot about how this game
is gonna go.
Speaker 2 (50:44):
Totally agree.
Speaker 6 (50:45):
Also, because of the style that Vandy plays, the margin
for err on offense is very thin for Texas. Again,
we to analyze Texas's offense in this game, you've got
to look to Vandy's offense, which sounds weird, but if
Texas like they might only get fifty offensive plays in
(51:06):
this game. Alabama, Kentucky, and ball State ran less than
fifty offensive plays against Vandy because they just they run
a death pain slow tempo like outside the top one
thirty in tempo, and they run these intermediate everything's intermediate
and short and runs. They don't take the high variant
shots down the field.
Speaker 2 (51:27):
Again.
Speaker 6 (51:27):
They want to drag you through the mud and make
you sweat. That is their offensive goal because they don't
have those elite weapons on the outside like Texas does.
Even though Isaiah Bond's not playing in this game, which
is a big miss for the Longhorns, I feel like
there is and I feel like there is a chance
that Vanny could win this game.
Speaker 2 (51:45):
I honestly do believe that.
Speaker 6 (51:47):
I don't think they're going to win the game, but
this spread's probably too high, and especially if what Rich
is alluding to, which is a very valid point, there
is a chance that Youers saw the writing on the wall,
rushed back. Then he came back last week against Georgia's
defense and said, oh I'm not ready for this, and
then you Youwers goes to the bench, arch Manning comes in. Disaster,
(52:11):
Youers goes back onto the field. More disaster. Like the
vibes right now are not strong. Texas really needs to
do two things in this game. They need to get
off the field on third downs against Vandy's offense, because
if you don't, the morale level drops. If they're picking
up third and threes, third and fours every single drive,
it's just you're just like, what do you do? Like,
(52:33):
you know, it's like when you're watching the game and
you're just like, you know, you want to get out
there and wring someone's neck. They can't turn it over too,
because Texas actually has been pretty good in the turnover marchin,
but they still struggled last week against Georgia. I I
really want to bet Vandy in this game.
Speaker 2 (52:48):
I might get there. I just I don't know.
Speaker 6 (52:51):
Something about betting on Vandy against the good team scares me,
even though they've had good results this year.
Speaker 4 (52:57):
All right, that's Jared Smith FSR betting analyst Rich Ornberger

Follow the money, real good money.
Speaker 4 (54:09):
Following the money with our good friend Seamus McGee. Good
morning to you, seamous. Okay, I'm curious what would be
a need or two or three for BETMGM today. Huh
if you could just knock them out in order, what
would you like to see happen?
Speaker 9 (54:27):
Hey, guy, it's great to be back. I think, first
and foremost, I think one of our biggest needs is
gonna be the Washington Huskies plus five and a half,
even despite Rourke not playing for Indiana today, lots of
believers in this Hoosier team. Game Day is there, so
they've gotten a ton of action so far. So we're
gonna need Washington. They haven't really looked at that. I
(54:48):
think they've been pretty unlucky in my opinion, a couple
games of just special teams and turnovers. But we're gonna
need them. And then you know, there's some people taking
some shots on these underdogs we probably could use with
Notre Dame winning in Ohio State not getting upset. But
in terms of spreads, Nebraska plus twenty six and a
half is definitely gonna be need for US as well.
(55:08):
So I'd say in terms of realistic needs on the spread,
I'd go Washington and Nebraska.
Speaker 2 (55:14):
Yeah, that doesn't surprise me at all. What are you
seeing on this byu UCF game.
Speaker 6 (55:18):
I think this is the most interesting game of the
week from a betting standpoint, by US undefeated catching points
against under five hundred.
Speaker 9 (55:25):
You see of Yeah, usually it feels like the kiss
of death for a ranked team this late in the season,
especially an undefeated one when they travel to an unranked
foe and being an underdog in that game. So I
think a lot of people are backing both sides. Theres
some people who still believe in the Uyu, but definitely
some people who are tuned into the betting odds who
are taking taking a shot with UCF here.
Speaker 5 (55:47):
How many believers in Vanderbilt? They've been kind of a
house of horrors for marquee teams plus seventeen as it stands,
maybe plus seventeen and a half at BETMGM, what say
you can? Can the Commodorees pull it off?
Speaker 6 (56:03):
Can?
Speaker 2 (56:04):
Can? Can they keep it close with the Longhorns?
Speaker 9 (56:08):
Yeah, we open this at nineteen and a half and
the spreads down to seventeen and a half juice towards Vanderbilt.
So the sharp money has definitely been on the Commodore's today,
and you're right, it is a house of worters this year.
It would be crazy to see if they can take
another scalp. But yeah, that's the Sharks are definitely on
Vandy today.
Speaker 4 (56:25):
How about living up to the hype? Shamus and just
In terms of the point spread. If you think about
a team you mentioned Indiana, do you think that they're
going to live up to the hype and cover the spread?
A team like Navy, do you think they're going to
live up to the hype and at least cover the
number today against Notre Dame or do you think those
teams are just that they're a bunch of hype. What
(56:46):
do you think from a betting standpoint with those squads today?
Speaker 9 (56:50):
Indiana is a tough team to gauge. I think this
week just because Wark is out, I think the backup
is capable. He can It isn't good enough to beat
this Washington the team. But I'm a little uneasy about
work not playing. But these Signetti teams, they just play
so hard it doesn't matter who the quarterback is. And Navy,
you get this is a good Notre Dame team. They're
(57:10):
really banged up though, this Notre Dame team. They're playing
in met life. Unfortunately, nobody in New Jersey's allowed to
bet on the game to the state balls.
Speaker 2 (57:18):
But I think this.
Speaker 9 (57:19):
Navy team is a real deal. Even if they lose it,
I think they can cover the number easy, especially with
the way they push the tempo, So yeah, it's a
weird one today. I wouldn't take any scratches away from
either side if they get upset today, honestly or not
upset in Navy's case.
Speaker 6 (57:36):
There's two games in the SEC that I'm curious about.
One of them, I'm guessing it's more injury related. The
Brady Cook News is tilting this Alabama line back and
forth with Missouri. I still like Bama either way, but
the more intriguing game is LSU, A and M. And
you know, you get that number coming down off of
three LSU. I think LSU is a dog, even though
it's not a big dog. Makes a little sense to me.
(57:58):
What does the market say about But did the last
two undefeated teams in the SEC conference just like we
expected A and M and LSU?
Speaker 9 (58:05):
Yeah, LSU. The Sharps definitely bet that we were hanging
a flat three for a while and then Sharpmanny came
in and pushed us all the way down to one.
It's practically a pick them now. So there's definitely some
interest from the Sharps on LSU this Alan Missouri game. Yeah,
there is the Cook News. I still probably would have
had Bama by thirteen and a half. I think even
if Cook played just kind of over this Missoo team
(58:28):
right now, and it seems like a lot of betters
are I think by game time will probably end up
needing Missouri to cover. But right now, I mean it is.
It is a little fifty to fifty. It's not necessarily
a need yet.
Speaker 5 (58:41):
Cal is a ten and a half point favorite over
the Beavers Oregon State former PAC twelve combatants now playing
in different conferences.
Speaker 2 (58:50):
I like Cal in this spot.
Speaker 3 (58:51):
Talk me out of it or talk me into it.
Speaker 9 (58:55):
I would tend to agree. The sharps tend to agree.
This is open at eight and a half and it's
in bet through ten up to ten and a half.
Is a this county. You have the hype this year,
they're back at home. I think they can get it
done again, so I won't be talking out of it.
Speaker 4 (59:14):
Double down come one. Yeah, you know, Seamus, I never
thought of it like this with you mentioning the Notre
Dame game is in New Jersey and the folks there
can't bet on this game. I never thought of it
from like a BEDMGM standpoint, where all these neutral site
(59:34):
games for Notre Dame. If you're like, hey, where's the
game San Antonio, Vegas or whatever? New Jersey? Oh No, Like,
think about all of that money, the handle that you
lose out on with the game being a neutral site
game in Jersey. I never really even considered.
Speaker 9 (59:50):
That I am not alone in New Jersey with being
a nerd Am fan. There are a lot of nerd
Ame fans here and in the New York City metro area,
and it it's just a shame. You know, there's this
great football game going on, and met life is gonna
be packed. There's all this hype given undefeated Navy team,
ranked Navy team playing Notre Dame who's trying to get
(01:00:10):
into the playoffs, and no one's going to be able
to put any action down this going to the game.
Speaker 6 (01:00:15):
Yea, yeah, that makes so much sense, right, I mean eventually,
and and I know you're not a regulator, but these
rules have to change eventually, right.
Speaker 9 (01:00:23):
I'll leave that to our lawyers.
Speaker 4 (01:00:25):
Yeah, you don't want to get fined by criticizing officiating
in the postgame press conference?
Speaker 2 (01:00:33):
I get it.
Speaker 5 (01:00:33):
Yeah, Do we have the shame as special to go instead?
I mean it really it feels like we need it
right now. Shame is guide us to Providence. Here are
you putting money on Providence.
Speaker 4 (01:00:50):
Football?
Speaker 9 (01:00:51):
Zero football team.
Speaker 2 (01:00:55):
Providence?
Speaker 9 (01:00:57):
It's three thirty at Providence, I think, I like, yeah,
I'm a little curveball here. I'm going to the night's slate.
Auburn Kentucky. Give me under forty four, under forty three
and a half? Do really really good defense? Is this
Kentucky team? I like, how many people talk about enough?
This is a really good defense. And Auburn played really
(01:01:17):
well defensively against a few really good teams. So I
see that staying under forty four forty three and a half.
Speaker 4 (01:01:24):
Very good, good stuff, always shamous. Hey, man, enjoy your Saturday,
enjoy the weekend. We'll catch you soon, Bud.
Speaker 9 (01:01:30):
Have it going, guys?
Speaker 4 (01:01:31):
All right there he is Seamus McGee, team lead of
sports trading at BEDMGM. Man, I'll tell you what we
go from heavy hitter to heavy hitter.
Speaker 2 (01:01:40):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (01:01:41):
It's probably a bad example. I don't know who handed
the baton to Usain Bolt right like four by one
hundred meters dash, But that's kind of what's happening here,
Seamus to Isaac lowan Fron.
Speaker 2 (01:01:52):
I feel like.
Speaker 7 (01:01:55):
I'm trying to think of what I know about the
rest of the Jamaican relay team, and kind of like
pretty much everyone, I only know Usain Bolt. I'm afraid. Well,
we had a bolt from the blue in Game one
of the World Series, literally on Friday night, Fellas, the
Los Angeles Dodgers trailing the New York Yankees three to
two with two out of the bottom of the tenth inning,
(01:02:17):
but they had the bases loaded and Freddie Freeman at
the plate court.
Speaker 2 (01:02:21):
Sends to others.
Speaker 10 (01:02:24):
Lame game series.
Speaker 7 (01:02:38):
So the first ever World Series walk off grand Slam.
Also the first World Series walk off home run on
the first pitch of an at bat since Mickey Mantle
did it for the Yankees against the Cardinals in nineteen
sixty four. And you know, Fellas, I've been combing through
the other calls of that home run, and I found
some other excellent calls, and not necessarily just in the
(01:02:59):
English language. I'm about to play you the Yankees Spanish
radio call of Freddie Freeman's home run, and it's pretty good,
especially for the losing team in this case.
Speaker 4 (01:03:12):
Listen the highlier kid lyndsay, but Mama, no brand slam,
no clown Donal clown.
Speaker 10 (01:03:22):
Level, Cal Priman, Freddy Priman and Sam tells contest Ooo,
brand Slam.
Speaker 7 (01:03:30):
Sonami Oon Grand Slam Salami. What did you guys say
to that?
Speaker 4 (01:03:35):
That's pretty and that's the losing call. That's the pretty
energetic I like it.
Speaker 7 (01:03:40):
I was the Yankees Yankees Spanish radio announcer on w
A d O in the NBA on Friday night, Anthony

Utah by forty one points one twenty seven to eighty six.
Find Buddy heals twenty seven off the bench, including seven

we've got I call it the two Forgotten Teams. You know,
We've got number eight LSU against number fourteen Texas A
(01:04:55):
and M. Both teams lost their first game, and both
teams have won six games in a row, and it
feels like most people don't care.
Speaker 2 (01:05:05):
It's worth wild right.
Speaker 4 (01:05:06):
Like LSU lost the opener to opener to usc Texas
A and M lost its opener against Notre Dame, and
I think a lot of people that aren't fans of
those teams are just kind of like looked elsewhere and
all of a sudden, you blink and we're midway through
the season and they're both in the top fifteen facing
off against each other in primetime tonight. Intriguing matchup. There's
(01:05:29):
been some money coming in throughout the week on the Aggies,
who are a slight favorite at home, I should say,
coming in on LSU. It's the opposite. There's been money
on LSUS, has been bet down throughout the week. So
just a one point favorite A and M at home
in this one. And listen, LSU. We know about Texas
(01:05:49):
A and M's defense, right, I think they get a
lot more praise defensively, But LSU the last four games
they've been getting after it good havoc rate. Love that
stat you know EFLs ffs your tackles for loss, forced fumbles,
the passes defended. Divide that by the total play So
they're tenth nationally in havoc rate over the last four
(01:06:13):
games and been getting a lot of pressure on dropbacks.
So this LSU defense has been better than it normally
gets credit four, So that would obviously be on that'll
be high on the priority list for LSU if they
can keep it going against Texas A and M tonight.
Speaker 5 (01:06:30):
You know, before you know, we get too far down
the road of breaking down the game, just to set
the scene, this is gonna be a primetime slot tonight.
You know, we have a seven thirty kickoff on the
East Coast. Is gonna be four to thirty out here,
And I realize it's not a week weekday. But you
know what I mean, Like TVs are going to be
tuned into this all across the Southeastern Conference states, especially
(01:06:53):
because people who pay attention to that conference know how
important this is to determine who could potentially be taking
home the conference crown, and that is that is going
to that is going to determine a playoff slot. So
you're talking about an entirely important game here again in
the SEC. Now, in terms of the matchups, I think
(01:07:17):
the two matchups to really look at and break down
and discuss is LSU's offensive line against A and m's
defensive line, their whole front, but specifically their defensive line.
We'll see if LSU can hold up against a very
stout group up front for A and M. And then
(01:07:37):
LSU is better on their pass coverage, but they're facing.
Speaker 2 (01:07:41):
A very perplexing quarterback for A and M. So those
are the two matchups.
Speaker 5 (01:07:47):
You know, how A and M can attack the deep
part of the field, and how they can attack the
LSU's pass coverage and can ls use offensive line protect
and open up run lanes against a very good group
defensive for A and M.
Speaker 6 (01:08:01):
Yeah, I like this game a lot. There's two matchups
that I really like in this game. First of all,
there is a little bit of continuity, or I guess
I should say familiarity with the coaches.
Speaker 2 (01:08:12):
Elko was Kelly's DC at Notre Dame for one year.
Speaker 6 (01:08:15):
Brian, I'm sure you remember that season twenty seventeen, one
of the Ian book years.
Speaker 2 (01:08:20):
So again, not a lot of familiarity.
Speaker 6 (01:08:22):
But anytime, especially when it's offense defense, right like Elko
defensive coach, Brian Kelly offensive coach, Like anytime, those are
the masterminds, and they've had, you know, experience with each
other in the past.
Speaker 2 (01:08:33):
They know each other well. It's always a chess match.
Speaker 6 (01:08:36):
The best on bet, like this might be the best
positional group matchup we get the entire season in college football.
LSU's O line A and M's D line best on best.
I really like the havoc. You love that stat Brian.
I love that statue that Elko creates. They swarm, They're
(01:08:57):
an aggressive unit. Recently, they've been even more great of
the last couple of weeks, almost like they're ramping up
the havoc levels as we go out go throughout the season.
LSU's offensive line, the strength is on the left side,
Campbell and Dellinger.
Speaker 2 (01:09:11):
We'll see how we'll go schemes it.
Speaker 6 (01:09:13):
But on the right side, you've got Emory Jones, the
right tackle, who's been like a turnstile. Twelve pressures allowed
the last two games against Ole Miss in Arkansas. So
if we do see the stunt, like if you're watching
this game and it's LSU offense, A and M defense,
watch the right side of the LSU offensive line.
Speaker 2 (01:09:29):
Is LSU running it in that.
Speaker 6 (01:09:30):
Direction, because that's probably where the stunts and the pressure
is gonna come from. They're not gonna they're gonna stay
away from Campbell and Deliger. I mean, that's about as
good as it gets.
Speaker 2 (01:09:38):
On the left side.
Speaker 6 (01:09:39):
That's where you're gonna see a lot of LZ's offense
I think originate from. It's gotta be quick hitters. It's
gotta be screens and draws right. That's how you suck
in that pressure, and then A and M could be
a little bit exposed sometimes when you're a little bit
too havocy, when you go to upfield, you leave those
open lander.
Speaker 4 (01:09:58):
I just made that word up on the fly, havocy.
Speaker 6 (01:10:02):
I'm curious if the tight end Mason Taylor, who's a
stud for LSU, their slot guy Aaron Anderson, Like, those
are the guys to look for in this game. Durham
the running back who's more of a I'll call him
like a scatback, like a Brian Westbrook type, is how
I would describe the freshman Kayden Durham for LSU.
Speaker 2 (01:10:17):
Like that's how LSU is gonna get their offense going
in this game. Fan M's offense.
Speaker 6 (01:10:22):
Connor Wegman highs are very high, the lows are very low.
Look great against Missouri. Two picks last week against the
dregs of the kegs Mississippi State. I don't know what
Connor Wegman we're gonna get. That's where the variance comes
in this game. If Connor Wegman plays well, man and
I'm probably.
Speaker 2 (01:10:37):
Can win this game. If not, I think the sharp
money's right with LSU.
Speaker 4 (01:10:42):
LSU is one of those teams where they kind of
just I think of I don't know why this popped
through my head, Maybe because my girlfriend was watching a
little of this Scooby Doo movie last night. You know,
I think of think of a bloodhound. Do you think
of us as bloodhounds? And we're sniffing, Like we're just
sniffing all around trying to pick something up right, and
something throws us off. That's sort of lsu like put
(01:11:05):
the loss. Well, the first game of the season, losing
to USC, so that stays in our mind. And then
well they beat South Carolina, but it's a comeback when
they beat Ole Miss. That's a close you know, nail
bier in overtime that easily could have gone against them,
and you're kind of like, Okay, they're vulnerable at ERA
(01:11:28):
at Arkansas and they just beat the breaks off of
Arkansas last week. You know, it's like one of those
teams that they just throw you off the scent a
little bit. So LS we see their strengths, we see
their weaknesses. But from week to week, even though they've
won six straight, it hasn't been one of these where
(01:11:49):
each week you're feeling more and more stronger about this team.
It's not the case one week they look good, the
other week they look vulnerable. But they've won six straight
in any event, and this.
Speaker 5 (01:11:59):
Is the complicated case of how to handle a perplexing
as I put a quarterback as Connor Wegman for the
A and m Aggies, you look at what he's done
over the course of the season, and if I were
to put a single sentence on him, he's.
Speaker 2 (01:12:20):
Just more comfortable in the havoc than he is outside
of it.
Speaker 5 (01:12:26):
If you look at his production when he's under pressure,
he's actually got pretty good numbers. He's think Think Patrick Mahomes.
Think Patrick Mahomes. Now, I'm not comparing the talent. I'm
not comparing the skill set. I'm not making that comparison.
But what in defenses in the NFL figure out about
Patrick Mahomes. If you play coverage against Mahomes, if you
(01:12:49):
force him to nickel and dime you, eventually he's going
to get bored. He's going to get tired of the
short passing game. He doesn't want to get stuck in
third and five constantly. He likes the thrill of the
chase a little bit. He wants you to throw pressure
his way. He wants the chess match, and when you
force him to play ordinary, he starts to get complacent
(01:13:11):
and make mistakes.
Speaker 3 (01:13:11):
Well, Wegman's kind of the same way.
Speaker 5 (01:13:13):
You play coverage against him, You give him a clean
pocket and he struggles. You throw pressure at him, you
flush him. He has to move his feet, he has
to evade the rush, he has to extend the play.
All of a sudden, his rating skyrockets. So it's a
very odd situation for the Tigers. They're going into this
(01:13:34):
super important game, as I mentioned before the scene setter,
this may determine who contends for the conference at the
end of the year, and you're going against this confusing
quarterback who presents himself as a talent, but really more
talented when he's forced to improvise, And so it's a
(01:13:57):
really really difficult situation to defend against for LSU.
Speaker 6 (01:14:01):
In this one, it's funny because I saw similar things
when I watched Legmand this year. And this might sound
really harsh and mean, and he's not listening, so I
feel okay about saying it, but there's probably some A
and M fans listening. He seems like a low IQ quarterback.
He seems like a guy that when he needs to
make the reads that are more complex, he kind of
(01:14:25):
kind of puts his brain in a pretzel, right, Like,
you can't throw two.
Speaker 2 (01:14:28):
Picks against Mississippi State, No he can't, so it.
Speaker 6 (01:14:32):
But then again, when you face Missouri, who by all
accounts has a really good defense.
Speaker 2 (01:14:37):
It look like the world is on fire for you,
Like you're just you know, it's like the.
Speaker 6 (01:14:41):
He on fire, like Marv Albercohl from an NBA jam,
Like Missouri's defense is light years A had Misssippi State.
Now the spot was bad, they jumped all over him,
Gamescript whatever. But this is a quarterback that I think
needs to be a little bit like they need to
simplify the offense for him. And you're right, maybe under
(01:15:01):
pressure he doesn't have to think as much. He just
reacts and that is where he's good. He's an athletic
guy who's got a good arm, and he makes throws
on the run that are hard to make.
Speaker 2 (01:15:11):
But when you have to.
Speaker 6 (01:15:11):
Think through the defense, that's where he struggles. I like,
I'll be honest, LSU's defense. I was down on them
earlier this year. They had a new DC, Blake Baker.
Speaker 2 (01:15:22):
Came over from a Zoo ironically enough, and now we're
starting to see the improvement.
Speaker 6 (01:15:27):
They've got two dudes on the edge. So Harold Perkins,
star linebacker, gonna be a first round pick. I heard
a couple weeks ago and everyone was like, including me, like,
oh man, ls US defense about the fall off a cliff.
They already were bad. Now you lose your best player.
But maybe Perkins was like Jackie Moon and semi pro.
I'm gonna go Rover, coach, I'm going Rover and you know,
just kind of.
Speaker 2 (01:15:45):
Doing his own thing out there. And now you take
him off the board. He's a very good player.
Speaker 6 (01:15:49):
But now the defense comes together a little bit more,
and you've got Swinson and Jones on the edge that
are just studs. You've got this wit Weeks guy who's
like a throwback linebacker from like the sixties in the middle,
just making tackles all over the place. And you've got
a really good corner lockdown corners. Ay Alexander is one
of the highest greateed corners in the country according to
Pro Football Focus. He's been targeting eighteen times only about
(01:16:10):
thirty two passing yards over the last few weeks. So
I think this is a good defense, and I think
they can throw some wrinkles at Wegman to make him
a little bit confused.
Speaker 2 (01:16:21):
That's why I think you're.
Speaker 6 (01:16:22):
Seeing the sharp money come in on LSU in this game, because,
let's be honesty, on the other side, it's a stalemate.
Speaker 4 (01:16:27):
We got Jared Smith, FSR betting analyst rich ron Berger,
Penn State, All American. I'm Brian Nell coming up next.
Prop it Up, have all the prop bets for you.

Speaker 1 (01:17:06):
Drop it up player plays Ah.
Speaker 4 (01:17:10):
Yes, the prop bet market. Jared will start with you.
Speaker 2 (01:17:12):
What do you like?
Speaker 9 (01:17:13):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (01:17:14):
I like these Indiana Backs today. Tavian Jackson of course,
in for Curtis Rourke at quarterback. I think he's capable,
but I think Indiana lean's on the running game. So
you get both the backs today. Let me make sure
I got the numbers right. Ellison over fifty eight and
a half over at bet MGM. Lofton over forty eight
and a half over a bet egine.
Speaker 2 (01:17:32):
Pick your poison. I don't really think it matters which one.
Speaker 6 (01:17:34):
I maybe would put a half a unit on both
because it's probably hard to decipher which one will be
the lead guy today. Actually Ellison will likely be the
lead guy. But but Lawton's been really good too, so
I would put, you know, half a unit unit on
both guys today, Ellison Lawton over rush yards against Washington.
Speaker 2 (01:17:50):
Yeah, I like the Lawton over. I'm with you on that.
Speaker 5 (01:17:53):
In fact, I'm gonna look to the opposite side of
the field the other offense, the Washington Husky's running back
Jonah Coleman over his seventy three and a half rushing yards.
Speaker 2 (01:18:04):
How do you quiet down a crowd?
Speaker 3 (01:18:06):
Keep the ball?
Speaker 5 (01:18:07):
And I think that's what Washington's gonna do. Offensive efficiency
has been great. They've got a really accurate quarterback. But
I think they're gonna try to own time of possession
and play a little keepaway against the Hoosiers. So give
me Jonah Coleman going over the seventy and three and
a half rushing yards.
Speaker 4 (01:18:25):
That's all I'm wondering too. Rich is IU has the
best rush defense so far? In the Big ten. But
how much of that is you're playing with the lead,
and how much of that is you're really good against
the rush, you know? So I love that matchup against
Jonah Coleman in Washington's running game. Today, we shall see.
I'm gonna look at Texas wide receiver Matthew Golden give
(01:18:48):
me over forty five and a half receiving yards. As
Jared said a little bit earlier, no Isaiah Bond today,
quinn Ewers he's gonna sling it against Vanderbilt. So forty
five and a half. I don't think that's too much
to ask. I'll go with Matthew Golden, the Texas wide receiver.
Hook him, is what I say today. Like utter Helm
(01:19:09):
has that a great season as well, the Texas tight end,
so we might be targeted a lot as well. So
keep your eye on the hornet. That's a good will
you like that. Hey, what do you guys think about
Travis Hunter? I know you're high on him. Yeah, I
mean everybody that has a pair of football eyes is
high on Travis Hunter. But he was a decoy last week.
(01:19:30):
It's ninety two and a half receiving yards. He's been
dealing with that shoulder injury. I want to be surprised
if that's under this evening against Cincinnati.
Speaker 3 (01:19:38):
I could see that too.
Speaker 4 (01:19:39):
Yep, yeah, nice, all right, comeing up next, something we
call the a la carte menu of college football. We
shall explain, oh, welcome in less than an hour away
from kickoff as we count it down leading up. You know,
I like to call this an a la carte menu,
(01:20:00):
if you will, right, because sometimes we hone in on
a game and do this obnoxiously deep dive and so
I like like fast break, remember like the old Phoenix
sun seven seconds or less. You know, they get a
shot up and they're moving and keep the ball moving.
That's what I like, you know, So if we hit
on a number of games over here, we've got some
(01:20:22):
big dogs, some big dogs meaning big underdogs. How about
Oklahoma and how ugly it was for them? He had
Gerald McCoy, former Sooner, say, this is an embarrassing with
them just getting shell ACKed by South Carolina last week.
They're plus eighteen and a half at Old Miss today. Guys,
(01:20:44):
this could get ugly. Man, this could be an ugly one.
And they're not the only big dog, but they're the
first big dog that we'll talk about here. What do
you think about the Sooners?
Speaker 3 (01:20:53):
They need a big turnaround.
Speaker 5 (01:20:55):
This is such a slippery slope and I mean talk
about a less than fortuitous start to your SEC alignment, right.
You know Texas obviously they have their issues at quarterback,
but this was supposed to feel and look so different
for these big twelve teams joining the big boys.
Speaker 2 (01:21:15):
And it's exactly when when.
Speaker 5 (01:21:17):
We were sort of trying to preview what the SEC
was gonna look like with these editions, we knew one
of these two teams was going to struggle.
Speaker 3 (01:21:26):
And we have our answer.
Speaker 6 (01:21:28):
Yeah, I mean, the number is insane, but Oklahoma hasn't
done anything to warrant anything different. Like last week, the
game was a pick them at South Carolina. They had
no shot at that game from the jump. They get
blown out by Texas. Like every time they've managed up
this year, they've just gotten pushed back. I don't love
this old miss team, but this is a get right
spot for them. They're a sub five hundred team in
(01:21:48):
the SEC. They've got a couple of tough games on deck,
but for the most part, like that game against Georgia's Circle,
they can run the table.
Speaker 2 (01:21:55):
Here and they can, you know, maybe get to maybe
get to nine wins.
Speaker 6 (01:21:58):
I don't think they're gonna beat Georgia, but yeah, they
should take care of business today against the really battle
you team.
Speaker 4 (01:22:03):
Yeah, another big dog Florida State with good reason. It
has been a horror show this year for them. They're
one in six. Florida State is one in six, and
they're facing sixth ranked Miami Miami seven to zero, Miami
twenty one point favorites here. Initially, you might think for
a couple of seconds, hey, this big rivalry game, maybe
(01:22:26):
Florida State plays over their heads in this one. It's possible.
I think it's a blowout city man. I think this
is doors blown off of you territory. Miami's defense not
great at all, but Florida State's offense doesn't know what
the meaning of great is. I just don't see Florida
State scoring even on Miami.
Speaker 3 (01:22:46):
No.
Speaker 2 (01:22:47):
No, I look the Canes.
Speaker 5 (01:22:49):
They've got a true Heisman candidate at quarterback in cam Ward.
They've got a stout defense. They're I mean you look
at the top of the rankings. I mean they're either
near the top fifty or in the top twenty five
and most of the statistics that matter. They're also looking
(01:23:11):
for their first start to an eight to no season
since twenty seventeen. They're gonna be wearing the all black uniforms.
I mean, the Canes all the way. I don't see
it any other way than the hurricanes being exactly that
a hurricane for the Seminoles to handle.
Speaker 6 (01:23:30):
Florida State hasn't topped sixteen points since that Week zero
game against Georgia Tech. They lost that game too, by
the way, twenty four to twenty one. I mean, it's
just they're a teenager on offense.
Speaker 2 (01:23:42):
They cannot get out of the teams. So funny, Yeah,
adolescents for the rules. Cam Ward's winning the Heisman. You
heard it here first.
Speaker 6 (01:23:54):
Wow, Okay, cam Ward is one hundred all right, not
one hundred ninety nine at winning the Heisman. Wow, listen,
just cap the race. This is like he is Jaden
Daniels of last year. He is now Grant Obviously Miami
could could he can get hurt something ridiculously unforeseen. There's
your one percent. But he checks every box, he really does.
(01:24:19):
Like they have a suspect defense. They're going to be
you know, the meter is gonna have to be running
on offense. And look at the schedule of Florida State, Duke,
Georgia Tech, Wake, Syracuse. I mean, like, what game is
he not putting up numbers in.
Speaker 2 (01:24:33):
Man?
Speaker 4 (01:24:34):
And then also this Georgia I'm sorry, this Nebraska Ohio
State game. Nebraska is an underdog by twenty five and
a half points. They got absolutely worked by the Hoosiers
last week, and it just shows you how long this
season is. It wasn't that long ago. The first half
at home against Colorado, You're like, wow, they look dominant
(01:24:57):
in the trenches and I like their d line man
fifty six to seven against the Indiana Like whoa. And
then they're twenty five and a half point underdogs against
the Buckeyes today, Like that's there's a five and two
team at the end of the day. But the odds
makers are like, yeah, we see right through that five
(01:25:18):
and two here.
Speaker 5 (01:25:20):
Yeah, look that that Huskers beat down they took at
the hands of the Hoosiers. And by the way, that
was homecoming for Indiana, Like they were like, yeah, yeah,
we'll take Nebraska, we'll handle business.
Speaker 3 (01:25:35):
There, and they boy did they do just that.
Speaker 5 (01:25:38):
But look to the other sideline, and I understand a
bye week is separating the heartbreak on the road against
Oregon and everything that we saw. Dan le Lanning harold
it as a genius for his late game, situational awareness,
taking a penalty, all those things are great, or committing
a penalty, all those things are great. But when when
(01:26:01):
you really think about the emotion of that loss, it
was there enough time to recover fully from that. Because
we talk about this on this show a lot, you know,
it's not just x's and o's, it's not just the stats.
You also got to look at the emotional makeup of
a team. Ohio State's about to be tested a little
bit here. You know, Let's see if they have grit,
(01:26:22):
Let's see if they have intestinal fortitude. I think it's
gonna be a big win for Ohio State. I sort
of feel like this is going to be a spot
where they say, hey, no, no, no, no, that's a
blip on our radar. We're gonna treat that Oregon loss
just like any other loss, and we're gonna move on
with our lives. But there is an outside chance the
sting of that loss is still sticking with them and
(01:26:47):
they lurch out of the gate and if you give
the Huskers too many opportunities. That's a team that can
and has shown earlier in the season.
Speaker 2 (01:26:53):
At least they can capitalize. Yet Nebraska is good against
the run. That's what Ohio State wants to do. Strength,
strength on strength.
Speaker 6 (01:27:02):
Well, I agree, Rich, Well, well, we'll find out more
about Ohio State's intestinal fortitude in this game. But the
spot's not great for Ohio State either. They got Penn
State next week. Yeah, and that's why I don't like
Sandwich game. Yeah, Like, that's why I don't like Penn
State a lot today. It's just like a tough spot
like that that this game. And maybe I'm just speaking
(01:27:22):
from a really you know, Penn State perspective, but this
game's been circled on the calendar all season. This is
the game, this game, this is the game that will
determine whether or not Penn State has a chance to
actually compete make the culturable playoff or if they're just
another nine to ten win Penn State team that goes
to a you know, New Year's Day Bowl and competes
against somebody who's not above their level. So we'll see
(01:27:43):
how Ohio State handles that today. The good news for
Ohio State is you're afu loss, so there's some motivation there,
whereas Penn State's off the bye, which is a little
bit trickier of a spot.
Speaker 4 (01:27:52):
Okay, so we've got some negativity and some positivity. All right,
these are both tweets into the show. Which would you like?
Speaker 2 (01:28:00):
First you have a reference here negative negativity?
Speaker 3 (01:28:03):
First?
Speaker 4 (01:28:03):
Let's okay, how about some Notre Dame negativity? Boy, that's
even more negative than.
Speaker 2 (01:28:10):
Talked about it.
Speaker 6 (01:28:11):
Then today, yeah, saving that for last time, Brian, you
know a worried about this game today?
Speaker 2 (01:28:15):
No worries at all.
Speaker 6 (01:28:18):
No.
Speaker 4 (01:28:18):
Blake Burnett checks in, Uh, he supports the show shout
out to him. But but he writes, hopefully we are
done talking about the Irish after today. Neither them nor
Miami deserve to get in with that joke of a
schedule caps on joke. Okay, here's the thing, man, Like,
(01:28:39):
I'm not gonna tell you it's murderer's row for Notre Dame.
It's better than Miami schedule. If you look at ESPN
has this like strength of schedule to this point, right,
games already played and then they do it on the
remaining schedule as well. But the games that have been
played already. Notre Dame strength of schedule is sixtieth. Let's
(01:29:00):
not that far away from Texas, that's fifty fourth. That
might surprise some people, right, they just played Georgia. They're
still in the vicinity of Notre Dame. Notre Dame strength
to schedule better thus far than Clemson, Nebraska, Colorado, Penn State.
Penn State's at seventy first. I just think it's odd, right,
I think the Notre Dame hatred as far as their
(01:29:23):
schedule goes, is a bit odd because again, they've already
played A and M on the road and one they
beat Louisville. They still have Navy Army both ranked at USC.
I mean, it's a soft schedule. It'll gound be wrong,
but a lot of people make it out as if
they're playing I don't know, like McGillicutty State every single week, right, Like,
(01:29:46):
I think it goes above and beyond that's all. What
do you guys think?
Speaker 3 (01:29:49):
You know what?
Speaker 2 (01:29:49):
I want to get to the positivity. I'll be brief here.
Speaker 5 (01:29:52):
Okay, It's really interesting how people look at Notre Dame,
and I think the reason is why things get tossed
into Notre Dame fans faces is because they're a little
bit of a bannerless.
Speaker 2 (01:30:09):
Team.
Speaker 3 (01:30:10):
You know.
Speaker 5 (01:30:10):
They they're not SEC or ACC they're not Big ten.
They's sort of this arbitrary we're floating somewhere in the
near distance of a couple of different conference. Mostly they
see see but sometimes Big ten, you know, and they're
just there. They're just there. And so I think that's
the reason why they face so much scrutiny for their schedule.
But as you pointed out, plenty of teams have weak
(01:30:31):
strength of schedule.
Speaker 2 (01:30:33):
Yeah. I don't like the transitive property stuff with college football.
Speaker 6 (01:30:37):
I don't buy it because, like we watch these games,
any game, anything can happen in these games. Sometimes you
catch a team on a good day, you catch a
team on a bad day. So it's hard to really
deep dive into the transitive pro Oh, this team beat
this team, and this team can beat this team. So
it just you cut your you put your brain in
a pretzel when you do that. I think navyes live today,
(01:30:57):
I really do. I maybe Noted just bulldozes them. And
you know, Navy hasn't played anyone and can't stop the run.
But and you know, you Dame just smash mouth. That's
kind of the vibe that I got on this game.
Speaker 2 (01:31:08):
But man, Navy's got this junkie, quirky offense.
Speaker 6 (01:31:12):
It's tough to prepare for, and Notre Dame hasn't really
managed up that well this year, although the game against
A and M Week one was pretty solid.
Speaker 2 (01:31:20):
Yeah, I don't know, Brian. I would be a little
worried in this game.
Speaker 4 (01:31:24):
Just a little bit none play Corvath, meet a real defense,
That's what I say. Even a banged up defense, meet
a real defense. Horrorvath, That's what I say. Now, this
is the positivity is from our guy, Bake checks and
very nice. He says. I just went away in and
say I really enjoy your show every Saturday, and then
shouted all of us out. Now, we mentioned the the
(01:31:45):
Yankees loss the Freddie Freeman walk off Grand Slam, and
he said, as a Yankees fan, I thought Alex had
won the game. It's crazy. It's this epic catch for
the second out of the tenth inning and then down
to their final out for he hits a walk off
grand slam that was insane. The one thing though, briefly,
while we're talking about this, I Chris and I were
(01:32:07):
talking in a break a little while ago, Chris Purfet,
technical producer, extraordinary, and we both had the same reaction
for you. Jared were like, we thought you were a
Mets fan.
Speaker 2 (01:32:16):
No, what's what's going on here? Yeah, Yankees fan my
whole life.
Speaker 4 (01:32:21):
Wow, we had it twisted. I thought it was Mets
for you.
Speaker 6 (01:32:24):
No, So the backstore with me and my family with
the Yankees. My grandfather was best friends with Stick Michael
growing up, and so I went all the games. I
went to the old Lockhart Stadium and they played in
Fort Lauderdale. I've been a Yankee, my whole family Yankees, Yankees,
Yankee since births.
Speaker 2 (01:32:40):
Huh wow.
Speaker 8 (01:32:40):
I think it's just because every other New York person
around is like Mets.
Speaker 6 (01:32:47):
Well, the connection is Mets and Jets because the Mets
or the Jets used to play at Shay and the
and the.
Speaker 2 (01:32:52):
Giants used to play Yankee Stadium.
Speaker 8 (01:32:54):
But I feel like everyone else in sports there is
like this stereotype. If you're in sports media and you
root for New York teams, it's obviously you're going to
be a Mets fan, because New York Yankees fans are
just for some reason, they're not the ones who take
up the microphone, so like you're you're the outlier.
Speaker 2 (01:33:12):
Thank you for that. I know that's I don't know
if that the compliment or not, but thank you. And
I think there's yeah, quick up the jeans.
Speaker 5 (01:33:19):
Stick Michael got the nickname because he was a slender fella.
Speaker 2 (01:33:26):
Pounder. How about that.
Speaker 6 (01:33:28):
Him and my grandfather used to hang out at the
harness tracks in Fort Lauderdale when the Yankees trained at
Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale before they got Steinbrennerfield in Tampa.
Speaker 2 (01:33:37):
And that was that's how I became indoctrinated into the Yankees.
They were they were, they were betting the ponies together,
and I actually it was I think it was. I
think it was the harness. Oh, not even the ponies,
not even the Thoroughbreds, the trotters.
Speaker 4 (01:33:50):
You never know what the nickname like that rich. You
could go either way. Sometimes tiny isn't exactly tiny. I
like Stick, he could be four bill are one sixty
five soaking wet, you know.
Speaker 2 (01:34:02):
And you go either way.
Speaker 6 (01:34:03):
He was the architect of all those great Yankee teams.
He was Yeah, I met him a few times, you know,
when he was when he was when I was younger.
Speaker 4 (01:34:11):
Very nice, very nice. That's the voice of Jared Smith
FSR betting analyst Rich Ornberger with US Penn State All American.

Or Irish And can I get an amen Irish today?
I said, so, I don't know. Look at Navy, looking
what Navy is done, Blake Corvett, I'll tell you this.
(01:35:40):
This is a great, great description.
Speaker 3 (01:35:42):
There you go.
Speaker 4 (01:35:43):
I like that, Chris, very nice. It's great description of
the Navy offense. It's called the sling t okay, so
it's like the wing tea, but they throw the ball
all over the place, or at least they throw it
around more than your traditional wing tea offense. So they
call it the slingty. How great is that? That's awesome?
(01:36:04):
And Blake Corvatt's been doing his thing. He's played great
football thus far.
Speaker 5 (01:36:07):
So Notre Dame Navy, this one is pretty huge for
the military academies. And I understand that both Navy and
Army are gonna get an opportunity to take on Notre Dame.
Actually in New York or thereabouts, this game happening at
MetLife the game later to Army Yankee Stadium. That's gonna
(01:36:28):
be in late November. I'm excited for both these games.
I think these are unique things that Notre Dame, like
we were talking about earlier, they're kind of this albatross,
like they get to do whatever they want scheduling wise,
so they have these opportunities that come up, or playing
over in Dublin that makes a lot of sense with
their tie ins being the fighting Irish.
Speaker 2 (01:36:47):
It's fun.
Speaker 5 (01:36:48):
Well, this could be fun or it could be an
awful situation for Notre Dame because if they lose one
more game, especially after that Northern Illinois loss earlier this season,
you can pretty much count them out of the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (01:37:07):
So you can't lose this one. If your Notre Dame.
Speaker 5 (01:37:10):
We talked about their strength of schedule, it's just not
gonna happen for them. Then on the other side of
the docket, you look at Navy, and again, Army's gonna
get a.
Speaker 2 (01:37:20):
Bite at the Apple two against Notre Dame.
Speaker 5 (01:37:22):
But right now everybody's talking about the military academies.
Speaker 3 (01:37:27):
In a certain way.
Speaker 5 (01:37:27):
It's like, oh, it's the first time since the sixties,
this and that, and it's record breaking this and it's
this is the first real test, and so I almost
feel like, even though it's just Navy playing today, they're
representing a lot more than just Navy playing today, if
that makes sense.
Speaker 6 (01:37:47):
Yeah, I'm curious what this line would have been if
the thirty five yard field goal from cannon Woodhill and
I use kicker missed and Notre Dame was a top
five undefeated team. Sure, right, Like, and that's one kick,
one kick six weeks ago. How is our perception of
(01:38:07):
Notre Dame differently? My guess is this line is over
two touchdowns. So just I do think you are getting
a slight discount on the Irish just because of that
one kick.
Speaker 2 (01:38:17):
Navy hasn't played anybody. I won't pull punches here. People
there there's.
Speaker 4 (01:38:24):
Who's who's fighting? Either that the Looney Tunes or oh
this is something Navy related?
Speaker 6 (01:38:31):
Right?
Speaker 4 (01:38:31):
I thought it was Popeye from.
Speaker 2 (01:38:34):
Apparent that was and I.
Speaker 6 (01:38:36):
Used to be so my hig school football was used
to play all the fight songs during our warm up.
It was awesome, but that was not one of them
that they played. Forty four percent of Navies plays this
year from the drop back, there you go, the sling Tea.
Never would never would have guessed that, never would have
guessed that Drew Chronic came.
Speaker 2 (01:38:52):
Over from Mercer. You've done a really good job with
this Navy offense.
Speaker 6 (01:38:57):
Can Notre Dame stop the initial burst of I think
so Howard Cross is getting healthier. Mills, the other guy
in the interior has been playing pretty well. I think
Notre Dame's offense will hold up well against the run.
The question is how they handle the gimmicks on the
other side. Notre Dames actually faced a really good.
Speaker 2 (01:39:13):
Schedule of defenses.
Speaker 4 (01:39:14):
Navy is not Wait a minute, stop depresses right there.
I thought they played nobody in Jeridow.
Speaker 6 (01:39:19):
Notre Dame's offense has faced a top twenty schedule of
opposing defense.
Speaker 4 (01:39:22):
Wow, take that, Blake Burnett.
Speaker 3 (01:39:25):
There you go.
Speaker 6 (01:39:26):
Navy's defense has faced a schedule of opposing offenses outside
the top one ten. Despite that, the Notre Dame run
game has actually been good. Despite the fact that they've
played a really good scheduled defenses, they have run it
really well. Jeremiah Love, outside of Ashton Genty and Jonah Coleman,
is the most elusive back in the country. Forced to
(01:39:47):
mistackle on thirty one percent of runs. Like the game
plan is very simple for Notre Dame smash Mouth. Navy
knows that they're probably gonna put eight in the box.
But what does that do for Riley Leonard.
Speaker 2 (01:39:58):
We haven't seen Riley Leonard really show you his arm talent.
He does have a good arm.
Speaker 6 (01:40:03):
He can't throw it, but he's only eclipse two hundred
passing yards twice in seven games this year, and those
are against Georgia Tech and Stanford. Like for me, Brian,
the path is Navy's gonna try to stop the run
eight in the box. Can Riley Leonard have one of
those really good games that we're expecting him to have
coming over from Duke. He hasn't really seen it. We
haven't seen it yet, but I think it's in him
(01:40:24):
to have one of those games. I think this is
the day where he can really perform.
Speaker 4 (01:40:27):
No, I'm with you, because, man, the beginning of this season,
it was rough for Riley Leonard throwing the football. It
was just it was an eye sore and it's been
better lately. And to your point, Hey, if Navy just
sells out against the rush, I think that's your best
chance is make Riley Leonard beat you with his arm,
(01:40:48):
not his legs. The problem is hard to stop him
from running on you, you know. So we'll see if
Navy can have some run defense success. Notre Dame. They've
averaged forty one points per game since that Northern Illinois loss,
so they've cranked it up quite a bit. And the
total in this game is fifty and a half. Always
interesting when you think about Navy, and they do run
(01:41:10):
the ball a lot and that can show up a
lot of clock. So when you keep that in mind,
fifty and a half is pretty healthy total, right there.
So very interested for this one, and with that, I
mean interested in a game, interested in I don't know,
an update anchor and all of his life goings on
over here. I love if you you can give us
(01:41:31):
a blend of what's going on in your world and
the sports world. We would love that too.
Speaker 7 (01:41:35):
For one combo world is the key word, because earlier
we've played the Freddie Freeman home run in Spanish. We're
going to go to another destination and another language, and
just a little bit because of Game one of the
World Series on Friday night from Los Angeles, Dodgers trailed
the New York Yankees three to two with two outs
in the bottom of the tenth inning, but they had
(01:41:56):
the bases loaded and the aforementioned Freddie Freeman coming to
the plate.
Speaker 4 (01:42:00):
Furt sentas delivers.
Speaker 2 (01:42:02):
That's my good ses.
Speaker 10 (01:42:11):
Made game series.
Speaker 7 (01:42:18):
Joe Davis with a call on Fox Game two tonight
at eight o eight Eastern. It was the first ever
World Series walk off Grand Slam, the first World Series
walk off home run on the first pitch of an
ad bat since Mickey Mantle hit one against the Cardinals
in Game three of the nineteen sixty four World Series. So,
like I said earlier, we played the Yankees Spanish radio call.
(01:42:41):
Here's how it sounded in Japan on Fuji TV Cayo.
Speaker 4 (01:42:50):
Yankees Night.
Speaker 7 (01:43:03):
Say to nine punts in juxta.
Speaker 4 (01:43:06):
SI up Monday, hold of that cyanar Yanarah, we got that.
Speaker 9 (01:43:12):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (01:43:13):
In the NBA on Friday Night, Anthony Davis scored thirty
five of the Los Angeles Lakers one twenty three one
sixteen win over Phoenix. It's the lakers first two and
oh start in fourteen years. Brandon Ingram the game winning
jumper with four point nine to play in New Orleans.
What O five whate oh three win at Portland and
Golden State won at Utah by forty one one twenty
seven to eighty six. Finally, the United States Japan, we
(01:43:37):
got one more country to wrap up with. Last night,
we had a football team win a game on a
walk off punt. We talk about a walk off grand slam,
home run, a walk off punt, not a walkoff punt
return for a touchdown. A walk off punt. We're gonna
take you to the Canadian Football League where the Toronto
(01:43:58):
Argonauts and Edmonton Elks were tied at thirty. In overtime,
hammers it.
Speaker 2 (01:44:05):
Away looking for the rouge and the rug to end
the season and winning.
Speaker 4 (01:44:15):
Edmonton.
Speaker 7 (01:44:17):
So apparently, in Canadian football, if you punt the ball
out the back of the end zone, or punt it
into the end zone, or kick it into the end
zone and the opposing team cannot return it out of
the end zone, the kicking or punting team gets one point.
They call it a rouge. So that was a game
winning walk off punt in the Canadian Football League last night.
Speaker 2 (01:44:39):
I was years old when I learned what a rouge was.
Speaker 7 (01:44:43):
I thought it was kind of makeup.
Speaker 2 (01:44:44):
Yeah, that's what I thought.
Speaker 4 (01:44:45):
It was insane, just the beads of it was like
a yard short, you know, being decided. Yeah, put your
back into that good lord. A shortly after the show,
our podcast would be going up. If you missed anything
on today's show, be sure to check it out. Just
search Fox Sports Radio wherever you get your podcasts. Be
(01:45:05):
sure to also follow rate and review it again. Just
search Fox Sports Radio wherever you get your podcasts, and
you'll see the show posted right after we get off
the air. We'll get to the number one team in
the country in just a minute. But real fast. Just
props to Joe Davis on the call on Fox last
night where think how fast you have to think on
your feet to say Gibby meet Freddie. It was just
(01:45:29):
perfectly done. Where Kurt Gibson hits the walkoff homer in
Game one in the nineteen eighty eight World Series, Freddie
Freeman with the walk off Grand Slam last night, also
in Game one, to be that concise and just simply
say Gibby meet Freddie, And like, how many calls are
pre orchestrated right where someone will rattle something off and
(01:45:51):
you're like, bro, you did not come up with that
off the top of your head at all. Like there's
no way. Joe Davis said, all right, I'm gonna have
this ready just in case, you know, like Freddie Freeman
hits a granny here, like hats off. I thought that
was a sensational call by him, and I love the
calls that Ilo has played from other countries as well.
That's been great stuff too.
Speaker 2 (01:46:11):
Yeah. Yeah, this truly is a world series this year.
Speaker 5 (01:46:16):
We know about the Latin American influence in baseball, and
so clearly there's a lot of interested viewers to the
south of our country, but the Asian community, especially out
in Japan. I mean, I don't know if any country
has participated more in the viewership of this sport over
the course of this season than Japan.
Speaker 2 (01:46:36):
And I mean that especially when it comes to the Dodgers.
Speaker 5 (01:46:39):
Every television is tuned in to see what Shohei Otani
is doing. So we're gonna hear a lot more of those,
I promise you as this series rolls on. But yeah,
getting back to your Joe Davis point, what an unbelievable
moment to be on the call for and then to
have the perfect words. I mean, it's just preparation meeting opportunity.
(01:47:01):
It's the same thing as an athlete. So congrats to
Joe Davis and the Fox crew there because that was
they truly caught the moment the way that that that
moment deserved to be caught.
Speaker 2 (01:47:13):
It's the best play by play. Guys are the ones
that can just come up with stuff like that on
the fly. He's fantastic.
Speaker 6 (01:47:18):
He's great to listen to one of my broadcasters, broadcasting
professors of Penn States. That don't say something in seven words,
you can say in.
Speaker 4 (01:47:26):
Five yeah, he said it in three.
Speaker 3 (01:47:29):
I mean.
Speaker 4 (01:47:32):
Yeah, good, No, it's so well done. Okay, So the
number one team in the land Oregon seven to zero.
They are hosting twentieth ranked Illinois and a big point spread.
Oregon favored by twenty one and a half. It's an
interesting note. So Oregon, they're number one in the country. Now,
it's the fourth team that's been number one this season,
(01:47:55):
so that's the most in the past ten years. So
the question, I guess guys, is you think Oregon remains
number one from here on out? Before the playoff begins.
What do you think the chances of that happening are.
Speaker 5 (01:48:09):
I think I think they will because the rest of
the season is in a cake walk necessarily for Oregon,
but probably the next ranked team they're gonna face will
be in the Big Ten championship game, assuming nothing goes
off the rails completely for the Ducks. But yeah, having
(01:48:29):
said that, Illinois is top twenty five for a reason.
They've proven themselves to Ducks. What they have standing in
their way from an obstacle standpoint is, and again off
of you know, what's been an emotionally turbulent season. I
they've They've had some major highs, they've had some nail
(01:48:50):
biting moments.
Speaker 2 (01:48:52):
Is an undefeated season.
Speaker 5 (01:48:54):
Yeah, they have probably I would argue right now the
best bid at an undefeated season in the country.
Speaker 2 (01:49:03):
And it's really because after.
Speaker 5 (01:49:06):
This game it gets easier. I don't know by what
measure or quotient. It's hard to say because Jared, I
thought you brought it up earlier, perfectly stated it. There's
so much variability variability in college football. You'll say whatever
you want about Vanderbilt heading into the Alabama game, Well,
guess what they want. You can't forecast these things until
(01:49:27):
these games are actually played.
Speaker 2 (01:49:29):
But this is a little bit of an impasse.
Speaker 5 (01:49:32):
They have an obstacle in their way to what otherwise
looks like an easier schedule.
Speaker 3 (01:49:37):
So a lot riding on this one for the Ducks.
Speaker 6 (01:49:40):
Yeah, their schedule is not a cakewalk, guys. And I
know the teams don't look very daunting. Illinois, Michigan, Maryland, Wisconsin, Washington.
But you travel to Purdue, you travel to Michigan, you
travel to Wisconsin. These are places that Organ's never been before,
back and forth, the East coast, West coast, like it
(01:50:01):
just it adds up and it takes its toll over time.
Speaker 2 (01:50:04):
I would not be shocked if they dropped the game.
Nothing there.
Speaker 6 (01:50:08):
Nothing surprises me in college football anymore. We have to
remove our brain from what we expect. This is the
most volatile landscape that has ever existed in this sport
because of the transfer portal, and because of nil, and
because of all this stuff we've talked about for months
and you know, over a year now.
Speaker 2 (01:50:28):
I think they win handily today. I think I don't know.
Speaker 6 (01:50:31):
That game at Wisconsin in mid November sounds a little
bit funky. It's before their bye week, it's the second
to last game. Luke Fickles got that bunch playing well.
I would not be shocked if Oregon dropped the game
before the Big Ten title or if they lost the
Big Ten title. What do you what would you It's
a geeky question, but what do you think the percentage
chance is? What would you would you set the the
(01:50:52):
percentage chat often.
Speaker 2 (01:50:54):
They lose a game, Yeah, I would say it's a
coin flip.
Speaker 4 (01:50:58):
Really, no kidding?
Speaker 6 (01:50:59):
Yeah, yeah, because because I mean, you know, their twenty
one point favorite today. They won't be a twenty one
point favorite at Michigan. They won't be a twenty one
point favorite at Wisconsin. Let's say they're a five ten
percent chance to lose. Some of these games, you roll
that dice five or six times, you never know, could
come up snake eyes.
Speaker 4 (01:51:14):
By the way, how's the dice rolling?
Speaker 2 (01:51:16):
Ben?
Speaker 4 (01:51:16):
Recently? I know you're a fan of the Craps, has
been awful.
Speaker 6 (01:51:20):
I haven't had a winning I need you to come
to Vegas me out my Craps loser. I haven't had
a winning night and Craps I want to say it's
been two months now. Grant, I don't play as much
during football season as I do during the off season.
Speaker 4 (01:51:31):
But wouldn't that be hilarious if that's what got you
on track?
Speaker 2 (01:51:35):
You know, I surprising. That'd be hilarious, man, no doubt.
Speaker 4 (01:51:38):
All right, We've got Jared Smith FSR, betting analyst, Rich Ornberger,
Penn State All American. I'm Brian no. Coming up next,

to the crew. We've got Chris Purfet, technical producer extraordinaire
with US Pride of Detroit podcast. Check it out Crushing

(01:52:45):
Guy Sager doing a fantastic job. Top of the Hour,
up on game, LaVar Arrington, TJ. Hushman, Zada, Plaxico, Burris.
They're coming your way in about twelve minutes. All right,
the moment, the truth. Let's dive into this.
Speaker 2 (01:53:04):
Rapid fire.
Speaker 4 (01:53:06):
Okay, Jared, we start with you.
Speaker 9 (01:53:08):
What do you like?
Speaker 2 (01:53:09):
All right? This game starts in about ten minutes. Get
it in now. Washington plus five and a half at Indiana.
I know what you're saying. Indiana is the best team
in college football right now.
Speaker 3 (01:53:18):
They're not.
Speaker 6 (01:53:19):
They're undefeated, they're having a great season, but they're starting
quarterback is out for this game, and everyone's betting Indiana
like they already know the final score. It's the most
bet on team today over at bet MGM. I think
Washington off the by with Jetfish, puts together a game plan,
Jonah Coleman, keep this game nice and snug, maybe even
pull off the upset. But I'll take the Huskies today
at Indiana sec action for my next two games. I
(01:53:41):
like Alabama today. I don't care if Brady Cook, I
don't care if Cook chef James Cook, whoever's playing quarterback
today for Mizoo, does not matter. Alabama roles in this game.
I think offensively, we're starting to see the cracks in
the armor from Zoo's defense when they manage up in
competition against those high level opponents. I'll take Alabama minus
fifteen and a half ago Bazoo and give me Vandy
(01:54:01):
plus seventeen and a half against Texas. They're gonna drag
that Longharns defense through the mud. I don't know if
they're gonna win this game outright, but man, playing bandy
is a very uncomfortable position. So give me Dandy plus
seventeen and a half, Bama minus fifteen and a half,
Washington plus five and a half.
Speaker 5 (01:54:17):
Okay, so Navy verse Notre Dame at Medlife point total
set of fifteen and a half.
Speaker 3 (01:54:23):
Give me the under.
Speaker 5 (01:54:24):
Two teams that like to run it, although maybe Notre
Dame likes to run it even.
Speaker 3 (01:54:28):
More than Navy, which is saying something. Yeah, give me
the under there.
Speaker 5 (01:54:33):
California hosting the Oregon State Beavers. I've had the opportunity
to see both these teams live this year. I've been
on the call for a Bear game in Berkeley, a
Beafs game down in San Diego, cal Favored by ten
and a half. Plainly, I think Cal is the better team.
The record doesn't reflect it. I'll take the points with
(01:54:54):
the Bears. Lastly, the Huskers in Bloomington total se fifty
three and a half for Nebraska and Indiana with a
Hoosiers starting QB banged up. Give me the under here
as well. So Navy Notre Dame under the fifteen and
a half Huskers against the Hoosiers fifty three and a half.
Speaker 3 (01:55:15):
Give me the under there as well.
Speaker 2 (01:55:16):
And give me cal plus or excuse me, cal minus
ten and a half.
Speaker 4 (01:55:21):
Okay, I'm gonna start off with this Texas game. I'm
on this wide receiver, Matthew Golden, no Isaiah Bond today.
Give me Matthew Golden over forty five and a half
receiving yards in that matchup against Vandy. I also like
I'll throw it in there. I'll go with Travis Hunter,
(01:55:41):
fantastic player for Colorado. But even though coach Prime said
little more pep in his step coming off the shoulder injury,
it's still a high number. I'm gonna take under ninety
two and a half receiving yards against Cincinnati. He was
a decoy last game against Kansas State, so I still
think he could play well and still be under it.
(01:56:02):
So I'll take the under on that one. And these
first half unders have been going to my liking here. Yeah,
thank you, Dick. I just this will fly over after
we said all those things, you know, But I'm gonna
take Oklahoma State and Baylor. Give me under thirty two
(01:56:23):
and a half in the first half of this game.
Speaker 3 (01:56:26):
Interesting.
Speaker 4 (01:56:27):
Interesting, Yeah, even though Oklahoma State gives up some chunk plays,
they've been known to do that. I don't look at
Baylor as this explosive offense, and if you're looking at
someone that could potentially put the clamps down, even for
a half or a quarter, could get us there on
Ali Gordon. I think Baylor's defense could do that, and
it's just been so goofy with Oklahoma State's passing offense
(01:56:51):
like musical chairs with quarterbacks. I like the under in
the first half. Give me under thirty two and a
half in that one.
Speaker 6 (01:56:57):
What's your process like for the first half unders, because
I do I bet them more in the NBA and
in college basketball than I would in college football.
Speaker 2 (01:57:04):
But I'm curious your process.
Speaker 4 (01:57:06):
Yeah, like if we're just talking college football, Yeah, really,
a portion of it is can I see it being
a slow first quarter?
Speaker 2 (01:57:17):
Right?
Speaker 4 (01:57:17):
Like if it has to be just fireworks in the
second quarter to get there, I don't like that. I
also consider like these running teams. I played Baylor a
little bit earlier this year against air Force, and it
was nowhere near that. It might have been three to
nothing at halftime or something crazy like that. So it's like,
is the clock moving? Does it maybe get off to
(01:57:39):
this kind of like disjointed start and they have too
much ground to make up to get there? That sort
of thing is what I typically look at.
Speaker 6 (01:57:45):
Because to me, the NBA it makes a ton of
sense because it's like the rotations in the early second quarter,
you get this lull and in that might not always
happen in the second half. College basketball is a little
bit clunkier, but yeah, college football, I've never considered first half.
Speaker 2 (01:57:59):
Hunders in colle football, it was never something I've ever
really looked at.
Speaker 4 (01:58:02):
Man, I got burned a first quarter under in rapid fire.
I'll never forget. It was just a couple of weeks ago.
It was Miami at Cal. Now that game turned out
to be a shootout, but I took under thirteen and
a half and it looked promising and it was like
a short pass to a tight end for cal and
he took it to the house for like forty five
(01:58:23):
yards or something like what are we doing? So yeah,
every now and then you get your heart broken on
some of these.
Speaker 6 (01:58:28):
The first quarter unders in the NFL is fun because
sometimes you'll be first in goal and they'll just let
the clock run out in the first quarter and they'll
in Yeah, they don't care, there's no urgency.
Speaker 4 (01:58:37):
Yeah, it was close. In man, it might have been
the Baltimore Tampa game. There was something goofy where there
was a holding call and then it was literally down
to the second, you know, the play clock and the
game clock, and they got the field goal in like
right at the gun. So it's it's crazy some of these.
Speaker 3 (01:59:00):
Texas Vandy game. That's the one I can't wait to watch.
Speaker 4 (01:59:03):
Yeah, yep for that Rich, Yeah, I can't wait to
watch it.
Speaker 2 (01:59:06):
I don't know why. There's just something different about this
bandy team.
Speaker 4 (01:59:10):
Is it just because you're you're bored with Notre Dame.
You think they're gonna win by three touchdowns?
Speaker 3 (01:59:14):
What's going on?
Speaker 2 (01:59:15):
Oh he's backy today.
Speaker 3 (01:59:17):
I'm like, don't lie, right,
