Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio an hour away for
the brackets being released. We'll have it here for you
at Fox Sports Radio. But there's still some business to
take care of. American Athletic Conference Big Ten championship games
all still going on right now. Are both still going
on right now, So you're at Monty, same Memphis upbait
per Due now up twelve on Penn State. As they
(00:23):
wind down, an Aaron, as we get closer and closer,
just difficult for me to believe that these two games
that are going on right now are going to have
any sort of change to what we could see coming
up when the brackets released in sixty minutes. Yeah, I
don't think so, especially because of the results that have
happened throughout the rest of the week. Obviously UCLA, most
notably losing last night. Now, there was an interesting result
(00:47):
in the perspective that Texas did win the Big twelve,
and earlier in the week somebody on the selection committee
did say that they were considering I think it was
six to seven teams, and Texas feels like it would
have been number six if there really are six teams.
So I don't think there's a ton that is going
to change, but it feels pretty confident that when we
(01:07):
see this bracket about an hour from now, these are
going to be two of the top the top four seats.
We are broadcasting life from the Tirac dot com studios.
Tierrac dot com will help you get there an unmatched selection, fast,
free shipping, free road hazard protection, and over ten thousand
recommended installers tirect dot com the way tire buying should be.
What I do find interesting is the continuing debates on
(01:29):
whether this game right here matters in the Big Ten
or that game right there matters in the American Championship.
Because I just don't think that it does. And they
could tell us that there are five different brackets that
are that are laid out. It is difficult to come
up with a bracket Aaron like it is. It is
very very difficult. And in a scenario here where and
(01:52):
this is where I think that we will, we will
find out in an hour on why they don't have
different brackets. If if State would win this game, if
Memphis wins their game, that would be the change in
seating that we would see. I don't think that Penn
State's gonna be able to Memphis may end up winning
that game. But if Penn State wins the Big Ten tournament,
(02:13):
maybe they get a boost playing well late. You win
the conference tournament, maybe you're a bit higher than what
bracketologists had previously. But I just don't see that there's
any way, and I take Purdue in in this conversation.
I don't see any way that Perdue is moved off
of the one line. Memphis can improve their seating, but
they're likely in the dance anyway. Even if they would
(02:34):
lose this game to Houston, it would just be a
boost in Memphis. It would be a boost in Penn
State if they were to win the games. To tell
me really that these last couple of games matter when
it comes to the selection process. It is really interesting
because it's something that you had mentioned to me in
the lead up to our our show here this afternoon,
is that someone on the committee actually came out and said,
(02:55):
we have the bracket basically unofficially, like like the sixty
eight teams are done, and then it's just a matter
of say, in the A Ten who wins that tournament.
I think there was a couple of other tournaments that
went final today, maybe the IVY League whatever, and so
I just bring it up because it's very interesting that
some years we speculate are the brackets really done? How
(03:16):
does it all work? Are they really waiting until the
final seconds? And then this year they came out and
said it. But it also is probably partly due to
who is playing in these conference championship games. You know,
last year we had a Texas A and M that
was on the bubble going into the final day. I
think last year, if you remember the A ten tournament, Richmond,
(03:36):
if they were to win, needed to win to get
into the NCAA tournament. I think they were playing VCU.
If they had lost that game, then VC you would
have gotten the automatic bit, Richard would have gotten in.
So this year it just feels like we have a
bunch of games featuring teams that are either definitively in
regardless of what happens Purdue, Penn State, Houston, Memphis, etc.
Or teams that need to win today to get in
(03:57):
like some of the earlier tournaments. Yea, of the five
games that we have today in the title games, three
of them are final And you heard Monsey mentioned, you know,
Alabama wins the SEC IVY League winner was going to
go was Princeton Orylle ends up being Princeton. They win
the the Small Ivy League tournament, they get the automatic bid,
but it was the A ten that was up for grabs.
(04:19):
And this was the tweet from David Warlock that he
sent this morning, and he is the media communications director
for the NC Double A in March of Badness. Field
was selected very late last night. Spent this morning scrubbing
the seed list with contingencies on placement, involving scenarios for
today's five games. Momentarily we will start bracketing. We will
(04:41):
have to do several of them as usual. There are
a bunch of reasons when for bracket heads and bracketologists
out there, and aaron for someone who's covered college basketball,
you know these things. If you're listening in your car,
maybe you're not in tune to college basketball as much.
BYU is the perfect example of this, like when it
comes to bracketing, and BYU is not gonna be in
the bracket this year, but when they are, they don't
(05:03):
play sporting events on Sundays, so they must be put
in a spot where there are games on Thursdays and
Saturdays and in a region where the regionals would be
Thursdays and Saturdays, and in fact, one year they messed
that up. Do you remember, like there was this whole
contingency plan of and I think it was when they
were playing in the first four. It may have been
that year where all right, if they play on this game,
(05:24):
they win this game, and then they're gonna have to
play on Thursday. But but that's one of the contingency
plans that they have to go through. So so that
is one thing. Then as you set up this bracket,
what the committee does is they will rank it one
through sixty eight, and you know, Produce playing right now,
Produce going to be very close to number one. I
don't know if they'll be number one are but they're
(05:45):
gonna be very close to number one. But what you
don't want is then you go through the numbers, is
you don't want another big ten team in an eight
nine in the second round matchup. That is something that
you want to avoid. There used to be a rule
way back in the day before we have these mega
conferences where you wouldn't be able to reach to play
a conference opponent until the regional final. Yeah, it's about
(06:06):
twenty five years ago. I think that was. But then
all of a sudden, now you have sixteen conference, you know,
sixteen school leagues. There was one I think when ye
were the maybe the Big East, when Cincinnati was in
had to play like a second runk. It was Kemba
Walker and Yukon. In twenty eleven, they won the Big
East tournament and then they played Cincinnati in the second
round and in the least surprising news you can ever imagine,
(06:28):
mccronin was not happy about it. Mccronin who claims that
UCLA will not get a one seed because everyone is
mad they're going to the Big Ten. That's say mccronin
twelve years ago at this point, so like that there's
something that you'll look to avoid, which kid, by the way,
can also affects seating. And that is why, Aaron, are
those contingencies and why I think that these two games
(06:50):
don't matter. There's there are enough things to sort out
in this bracket scenario to figure you're out, how are
we going to do this? Where are we going to
put this team? To even think that this game with
a bracket needing to be done in fifty two minutes,
that this game is like nothing is produced, not going
to jump regions, produced not going to jump from one
(07:12):
side of the bracket to another. You have to make
sure that Produce is going to be the one seed
they like they are, and then you have to sort
out where the eight nine team that they could maybe
play in the next round and make sure that that's
not a big ten team. Problem is it's probably about
five big team ten teams that could be eight or
nine seeds, So they're gonna have to work around that.
There's just I know that they give us these you know, explanations,
(07:34):
and Seth Davis is you know, trying to reveal the curtain,
you know, things behind the curtain that they're trying to do.
I just think in recent history it hasn't shown that
these things, that these two games matter here just because
I think there's too many other contingencies that would have
to fall in line for you to change to be
able to make these relevant. Well, and you know, it
sets up an interesting conversation that's broader, which is this
(07:57):
year it's not going to really impact that much, but
there have been years past where it has. Right again,
you go back to last year Texas A and M
they're playing for an SEC title. They don't get in,
and the committee believes that they were left out because
they had a Sunday game as opposed to Saturday. By
the way, Tennessee ends up on the three seed line
when many believe they should be on the two seed
(08:18):
line last year. And so it might not be the
conversation for today because today everything's gonna line up pretty
nicely for them. But it does raise the question of
two things. Is one should we have championship games at
all on Sundays? Or two should we push the bracket
back an hour or you know, instead of you know,
if the Big Ten championship game ends at six, should
we reveal it at seven? And the only reason being Dan,
(08:41):
is that I do think there is frustration from the
fan bases who play on their championship games on Sunday.
It's like, if this isn't going to count, then why
are we playing these games? Why why are we acting
like this matters if it doesn't there it is a
frustrating thing, it seems like specifically from the it's something
John Caliperry in the SEC for years complained about. Now
he doesn't make the conference championship game anymore, so it's
(09:02):
not as big of a deal. But when they were
a consistent team that was always playing on this Sunday,
it was a frustration that he expressed a year after year.
I was a side swipe of coach cat that was
a little bit of a strike. I feel that was
completely pushing him off the road into the into the shoulder.
Would you rather be Mike Woodson in Indiana right now
or Matt Painter and Purdue in terms of preparation for
(09:25):
your team getting ready well. And the other thing that
I was thinking about this too is that general, it
feels like the team that wins the Big Ten tournament
always gets overhyped going. So last year it was Iowa,
everyday loved Iowa. They lose in the first round of Richmond,
and the year before it was Illinois. Illinois lost in
the second round to Loyala Chicago. So it feels like
(09:46):
playing in this final slot because keep in mind, the
game's gonna go final. You're gonna sit in a hotel ballroom,
watch the selection show. You're probably not gonna get on
the road in the air until what seven o'clock, eight
o'clock Eastern time, Central time, whatever, gonna and ten or eleven,
and then you might have to fly out to your
regional on Tuesday Wednesday at the latest. So to answer
(10:06):
your question, I think you always want to be playing
for a championship. It does feel like the team that
has played in this late game historically has been at disadvantages.
I agree, I think, Like to answer my own question,
I think I'd rather be Indiana. Yeah, they got to
win under their belt, they didn't have to play today,
they get an extra day of rest, they're back home,
they're you know, getting acclimated. If they have to play
(10:27):
on Thursday, even better. You know, if Produce got to
turn around, they should beat their opponent. As I think
Produce is probably gonna be a one seed, which would
be a sixteen seed. But still, like there is there's
something about playing this grind and turning around, and I
just I do think that there's a I think that
there's a benefit. You know, like obviously the Vandy you
(10:47):
wanted to win last night because you have your bubble chances.
But in terms of teams that were already in yeah,
they cou'd rather be Indiana right now. Well, and it's
funny because on my Saturday show we actually had MIKEA.
Shrewsbury the head coach of Penn State on last night,
and we were talking with him about how like this
time slot is such great exposure for his program. Nobody
knows anything about Penn State basketball, but this will probably
(11:08):
be the most watch college basketball game before the tournament
of the entire year because everybody's waiting for the brackets.
So if you're Michael Shrewsbury, the Penn State head coach,
even though you're probably into the tournament, yeah, you probably
want to play in this game. But if you're Matt
Painter or Mike Woodson, you're both comfortably in this A winner.
Loss today isn't going to define your program in any
way definitively. You probably aren't mad that you get to
(11:31):
get home on Saturday night and get a full ectionate.
You know, the other, the other other part of it.
And does it look at the other game as Memphis
continues to lead Houston, is you don't want to be
Marcus Sassard. You're right, there's there's and and we don't
know the severity of his injury, but he hasn't played
today for Houston. Injured in the semi final, you're risking
injury of a star player in this game, which, by
the way, then if it would then if it did matter,
(11:54):
it would only hurt you negatively like that that maybe
that should be the caveat Aaron, like the own, like,
this game matters, but it will only matter if you
are going to be hurt or penalized for it. Because
Purdue is not going to get the jump. Maybe Purdue
is going to be the second overall seed. I think
Alabama is going to be the first overall seed, but
(12:14):
maybe Purdue is number two. But you think of all
the risks that could happen with Purdue. You know, Zach
Edy turns, you know he didn't, but you know, hopefully
he stays healthy. But if you would have an injury
like that, Now all of a sudden, you're like, man,
Purdue is you know, maybe we got to drop them
to the you know, fourth overall number one seed, Like
it would only hurt if they actually do make bracket contingents.
(12:35):
All I would say is that this year everything worked
out well, but it couldn't. Like we were talking about
this on my Saturday show last night. Imagine if you
CLA wins last night and then Purdue gets smoked today
and Purdue ends up with a one seed UCLA ends
up with the two. Then it just adds to the
effect that nothing matters. So it's an interesting conversation. Like
(12:56):
I said, I think who you are depends on how
badly you want to be playing on this Sunday right
before the selection show comes out. By the way, you
could have the opposite. You could have somebody playing against
Houston that you know needs to win the autumn. I
don't know. The point I'm trying to make is I
think it's different for every team. I think there's plenty
of teams that don't hate the fact that they're not
playing in this late window. But this year, it doesn't
(13:18):
feel like anything that's going to happen will drastically affect
the bracket when it actually comes up. He's Eron tore As.
I'm Dan Buyer. This is Fox Sports Sunday, a special edition,
a selection Sunday edition. If you will get eron on
Twitter at Aaron Underscore tour As. You can find me
on Twitter at Dan Buyer on Fox. If you're cruising around,
you're running errands on this Sunday, You're not going to
be in front of a TV set when the brackets
(13:39):
come out. Don't worry. We're gonna have bracket by Brackett.
As it's released, we will tell you here on Fox
Sports Radio as it all goes down in forty five
minutes or so. Coming up next, what will this Brackett
actually look like and what surprises could we see when
the brackets are released in forty five minutes. That's all
next year on Fox Sports Radio. It's selection Sunday, Fox
(14:00):
Boards Radio. He's Aeron Torres. I'm Dan Bayer. Brackets coming
down in thirty eight minutes the countdown starts. Get Aeron
on Twitter at Aaron Underscore Tores hitting me up at
Dan Bayer on Foxes. We are live from the Tirac
dot Com studios. This bracket, as we said, we'll be
released in thirty eight minutes. But it's a bracket Aeron,
(14:20):
that doesn't include really a lot of surprises. There's no
I don't think that there's tons that are hanging in
the balance of who's gonna be where. There could be
some discussion on who's going to get what number one seed,
what side of the bracket, But in terms of drama,
I'm not sure that there's that much Compared to maybe
previous years. It's really interesting, and I know that we
(14:43):
have an update to get to here in a second,
but I just saw Matt in Orlando from CBS. He
actually tweeted this, and it was something I was thinking about.
He said that if Houston were to lose today and
Purdue where to win, he thinks you can make the
argument that Texas should get that last number one seed
over Houston. And it's interesting because I had always kind
of just and again for people, you probably heard me
(15:05):
say this throughout the week, like I'm not a huge
bracketology guy. I'm just kind of like, once I see
a bracket, I have a pretty good feel for who's
gonna play well against everybody else. But I always wondered
with Houston, there's only one other team in their conference
that is going to make the NCAA Tournament, that is Memphis.
Houston played a fine out of conference schedule they want
at Virginia, but they don't have this like totality of
(15:27):
incredible wins. And I understand, I didn't really understand why
it was such a lock that they had to be
a number one seed. So Matt and Orlander just recently
within the last five minutes making the argument that that
maybe Texas should get that last number one seed over Houston.
So maybe that is the unexpected drama that we get.
But then that would also run counter to what we
just said, which is that nothing in this late window
(15:48):
is ultimately gonna Okay, here here's my question, and it's
not only is it kind of an open ended question,
but there's a reason to it. Kansas has the most
quadwood wins of any of any team. Texas has the
second most, Baylor has the fourth most, Iowa State has
the fifth most. Look, we think that the Big Twelve
(16:09):
is the best conference just past season, right, Like there's
do we really really really really know, like like like
in terms of when you are all every time you
were playing in the Big Twelve, you were playing a
quad one game, and it's not meant to it's not
compared to Houston. What it's saying is, all right, you know,
here's here's an Iowa State team that, um, you know,
(16:34):
we weren't necessarily quite sure about, had to dip during
the season, and we're putting them and they're in the
top five in quad one wins. So really like that
that would be just my only argument like towards it,
like all of these Big twelve schools have tons of
quad one wins because they're playing, you know, within that conference,
and how can we really truly know how good that
(16:56):
conference is? Well? And it's it's so funny because this
is one of my annual rants is that annually the
Big ten has the most teams in the tournament and
they almost certainly will again this year, and annually, by ranking,
they by seating, they're the most disappointing team a conference
every year in the tournament. And so I have this
kind of devil and angel on my shoulders. Of On
(17:18):
the one hand, I understand that there's a baseline metric
that we have to use to figure out how to
put teams into the tournament and how to rank them
once they get there. That's what the net is called.
That is a big part of you know, what we use.
But I bring it up to say how many times
do we have to see the Big ten fall flat
on its face to say maybe we shouldn't give them nine, ten,
eleven teams in some years because they're not meriting it
(17:40):
once they get into the tournament. And so I bring
it up because it just plays to your point in
the Big twelve, is that you know, we're going to
give the Big twelve the benefit of the doubt, but
they also have so many more chances to pick up
quality wins. And I think that's a conversation that we'll
have once we see the bubble teams that are left
in and left out. I have a feeling the Big
(18:01):
twelve teams like Oklahoma State, West Virginia will be you know,
will be have favorable, uh, you know, opportunities, and I
think the Big ten is going to have a team
or two that we maybe don't expect. And the argument
the committee is going to use as well, they have
this many quad one wins and it's like, yeah, but
they also played nineteen, you know, like Michigan is three
and twelve in quad one games. It's like you gotta
win some of them at some point. But then you
(18:22):
say so, you get the rant that yeah, yeah. And
I literally like, when you look at the bubble right now,
and you may have a big bubble, may have a
small bubble. There are two non Power six Conference teams
on the bubble, I would think, so, I think Utah
State is in, but I'm putting them in the conversation
(18:44):
because if you look at various bracketologists. Some have them
at you know, ten eleven lines. Some have them on
a first four. The loose to San Diego State. I
think Utah State is in. The other is Nevada. I
think Boise States in, by the way, But there's also
a common theme that I'm talking about. I just mentioned
and three Mountain West Conference teams. Sure, there's no there's
no double digit team from the eight there's you know,
(19:05):
there's not another school from the eight ten that's getting in.
So it is all Power five, Power six conference teams
that are basically sitting on the bubble. It'll be interesting
to see if the Big ten gets the benefit of
the doubt like they seemingly always do. And what has
(19:25):
pretty much been an average conference throughout this season outside
of Purdue and flashes from Indiana here and there. No,
I agree, And it sets up kind of the age
old you know, computers and analytics and numbers versus eye test.
And like I said, I get that there has to
be a baseline metric to rank these teams. Otherwise, how
(19:45):
do you know, how do we know anything? But it
does it does feel like at a certain point if
one conference continues to underperform year after year after year
after year. That should be taken into consideration, and the
eye test should matter to some degree. Not totally sure
that it will. Quick quick comments on Houston here, because
as you said that, there is the discussion, and you
brought up the situation with Texas and a number one seed.
(20:08):
We kind of branched off on the Big twelve version
of that. Here's the Houston situation that I think is,
this is where the topic of conversation, where the debate
comes in. If you're the committee. Marcus Sasser doesn't play today.
Ucla at Jalen Clark injury as achilles and the regular
season finale against Arizona. Everyone figured it was an achilles injury.
(20:29):
Ucla was playing coy with it. Now we know he's
obviously not going to be available, but we knew he
wasn't going to be available the night of the injury,
but they still wanted to play Coy because they didn't
want to hurt their seating. You don't have Marcus Sasser
in this game. All of the reports leading up to
this game, Aaron work game time decision is coming out
(20:49):
there to warm up. Guess what, He's not going to
start today? And so then now you're looking at this.
Here's my point. I don't think Houston should be punished
or penalized even though his status is up in the air,
like the fact that's like I think that you're doing
more harm than good in trying to say, Okay, we
(21:12):
don't know the status of of of his injury, so
we're just going to penalize them for sure, Like I don't.
I don't think that that is necessarily fair. If he
ends up not playing and they get a higher seed,
that's how, you know, that's kind of how the cookie crumbles.
But like them losing today in him not being available
may tell us really then who Houston is. But I
(21:34):
just I don't think that you can penalize them without Yes,
that's my yeah, it's it's pretty The most obvious example
is it's like the legal system, you're presumed innocent and
they have to prove guilt. Like with this, they should
presume that he's going to be healthy to play at
some point, give them the benefit of the doubt that
they will be at one hundred percent until we know
for sure that he isn't. And a groin, you know,
(21:55):
it's a groin injury. Groin is is something that takes
time to come back from. I don't know that. I'm
not trying to be facetious. I don't think I've ever
heard of a season ending growing injury. So you would
think that he'd be able to play at some point
if they if they continue to advance, And I'm with you,
I don't think they should be penalized for an injury
that happened, you know, less than twenty four hours before
(22:16):
the bracket came out, that we really don't know much
about right now. Today's shows brought to you by Progressive Insurance.

nine minutes away. Two seconds away is the one and
(22:38):
only Monsey Belango. She is here to give us the latest.
To find her on Twitter at Monsey Blangyo's Moonsey. What
is going on? Selection Sunday? Is this purposely on the
same day as Oscar Sunday it's just all right. Did
it just happen? I don't. I honestly don't know the
history of the Oscars. Ryan burshingers they have they changed dates.
(22:59):
I'm not sure. Executive producer. It's two on the money. Yeah,
I don't. I don't recall, Brian. They're typically around this
time of year, early March, mid March is typically the Oscar.
It's just two on the money. I love it. Right now,
we've got a couple of games going on in college hoofs.
It looks like Memphis might be taking down Houston in
the AAC Championship. They're down to like the final minute,
(23:22):
Memphis is up by ten. Seventy two to sixty two
is the score in the Big Ten Final. It's per
Due holding on to their lead over Penn State sixty
sixty to sixty also about one minute to go in
the game. But earlier today, I'm sure Princeton was excited
to punch their ticket to the Big Dance after defeating
y L seventy four to sixty five in the Ivy
League Final. It's their first time going to the NC
(23:42):
Double A tournament since twenty seventeen. VCU took down Dayton
in the Atlantic Ten Championship. They came alive in the
second half to make it happen. Sixty a fifty six
was the final score. And of course, Alabama has won
their second SEC tournament in three seasons, outscoring Texas A
and M eighty two to three. But I'm gonna give
some love to the women's Iowa state team. They won
(24:04):
their first Big twelve championship since two thousand and one.
Two thousand and one, You go girls, that is amazing.
Beating Texas sixty one to fifty one was the final score.
The big story in the NFL is that the Rams
have traded all Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey to the Miami
Dolphins in exchange for a twenty twenty three third round
pick and tight end Hunter Long Tyreek Hill already tweeted,
(24:28):
if you hit me like you did in that flag game,
we fighting. Yeah, So he's a hard kill. Had a
busy day yesterday. You guys see that he was in
some random race, Yes, Seth dusted everybody. No imagine he
shows up and kind of ruins your race. I saw that.
I saw that. One game going on right now in
the NBA that's coming down to the end eight minutes
(24:48):
to go in the fourth quarter, the Brooklyn Nets have
retaken the lead over the Denver Nuggets. One of six
ninety two was the score. But Nicola yokis trying to
get his triple double twenty three points, fifteen rebound, eight assists,
two assists away. I think he's going to get it
back to you guys on championship No, not Championship Selection Sunday,
although it is Championship Sunday for some Yes, yeah, yes,
(25:10):
and yeah, there will be a championship handed out here
in the Big Ten in a matter of seconds. But
Penn State is making this interesting. Now just a three
point game with fifteen point six seconds left, and and
they just actually stole the inbounds, and now it is
a one point game with ten point one. So the
(25:30):
scenario era that we talked about of if you are
if you are seeing the Penn State end up winning
this game, this will this will test our theory of
how much flexibility the committee actually does have when it
comes to changing their bracket. Because fifteen minutes ago this
(25:52):
was a rap, this thing was over. Now it's a
one point game. Purdue is called time out. There's under
ten seconds left to go. They're gonna have to inbound,
which they just had trouble doing. Pency. It's gonna follow.
But even with the two free throws, could be an
opportunity to tie or go ahead. We'll let you know
what's happening in that contest when they return. Uh, But yeah,
Monsey needs her time in her time is now, and
(26:16):
now it's time for absolutely it's according to many, I
love it. Yeah, yeah, all right, you know I'm gonnae him. Remember,
Oh that's the best part. That's the best part of that.
All right, it's on your mind, girl, what's going on?
(26:36):
So many things? Yes, all right, you know, I'll I'll
have one the coins us. According to Mancy, she doesn't
know who's more annoying, Aaron Rodgers or Dylan Brooks. I mean, seriously,
Sophie's choice right here. Dylan Brooks wants to talk smack
to Draymond Green, and I can't get it, my guy.
You two are cut from the same cloth. What are
(26:58):
you talking about? Lacks trying to be all high and mighty.
There was a tip between them on Thursday, and he
was asked about it after the game, and he said
that he told Draymond to stick to the mic because
he's better at the mic than whooping. I'm sorry my
guy again. Draymond Green has won four championships. Quat, let's
count them. What have you done exactly? Oh wait, no, no, no,
(27:21):
oh wait, absolutely not trying to fight Channon Sharp everybody.
He's trying to do everything else. Besides, when you talk
all this smack and you've done nothing, And then he
wants to come for my boy Luca. No, no, no, no,
you can't come after Luca don chich No. I get
mad at that. He came at him for not playing yesterday,
saying that some players can't come back to a physical game.
Well you know what your physical game. It means hitting
(27:43):
players in the groin when things don't go your way.
So why, Well, Lucas should have done to get out
of the game yesterdays. He should have shown a gun
at a strip close exactually, And then it's just mind
boggling to me how he is doing all this and
you've done nothing. And with Draymond it's like you're the
same guy. What are you talking about? So you're from
the same cloth. Wait? Why why are he and Aaron
(28:04):
Rodgers the equivalent? Oh? Because listen, Aaron Rodgers. I thought
this guy he's annoying for different reasons. I thought this
guy liked to keep things private. Yet we know everything
that he's done this offseason, whether it comes to him
playing or not. I'm so over it. I'm so over
you think this is a fun roller coaster for us,
Aaron Rodgers, You've had us on a merry go round
that only kids find interesting. After five minutes, we are
(28:27):
bored and annoyed. And your latest response that came out
today that you told former NFL receiver Brandon Marshall to
stay tuned it won't be long. We're so tired, we
are so over it, we don't care anymore. I think
that Aaron Rodgers doesn't know the definition of soon and
won't be like honestly, honestly, got ridiculous. We are on
a merry go round like I can't. I can't moving on.
(28:48):
I can't with Aaron Rodgers or Dylan Brooks. According to Munsey,
According to Mancy, the Lakers don't need Lebron. Jane listen.
As a Clippers fan, I want Lebron to come back
tomorrow as a Clippers fair Yes, as a basketball fan,
I don't think Lebron James should come back anytime soon.
The Lakers are playing better without him. I don't know
(29:10):
if it's that they're scared of him, Like it's Dad
is on the court, we gotta go through Dad, We
gotta let Dad run the show. Now that Dad is
sitting on the sideline, the Lakers are in a groove.
They're playing faster than they play when Lebron is on
the court. Anthony Davis either doesn't like Lebron or doesn't
like playing with him. We saw that video when Lebron
became the NBA leading scorer that he just sat there.
(29:32):
That was weird. Now a D is playing well. I
cannot believe they came back to beat Toronto. I don't
know if they would have done that with Lebron. That
was speed that brought them back. D'Angelo Russell running the
game that he wanted to with a D and Austin
Reeves when Lebron is on the court, they're scared. They're
scared to do their thing and they're letting Lebron run
the show. And it's not working. Since Lebron has been gone,
(29:53):
they are four and two, they've won three in a row.
They're in a groove. They're in motion, and if I
were the Lakers, I would be like, Hey, Lebron, how
about you just chill out. Let's see how you feel
once playoffs, I will say this, Penn State is down
two to Purdue three point three seconds left and they
have the ball across the mid cork stripe. So this
could be this could be exciting. This could be exciting
(30:14):
in Chicago and exciting for Laker fans, not for Clipper fans.
So if you're a Clipper fan, put Lebron in the game.
If you're just a Lakers man, you don't want Lebron
in the game, according to Monsey. According to Moncy, social
media has ruined the Oscars so much. The Oscars used
to be like this elegant thing, you know, like Hollywood
(30:36):
had list like veil of secrecy that you didn't know,
and the Oscars it was like, oh my goodness, we're
gonna see these movie stars for the first time. We
haven't seen them in forever. Social media has taken all
that away from us. Nothing is elegant, nothing is a surprise.
I know what they're wearing, I know what they're gonna say.
They have really ruined the Oscars. And I'm not saying cancel.
(30:56):
The Oscars have it for the actors, sure, but the
Oscars are not what they use. Listen. I don't watch movies,
and I don't even like that they expanded the categories. Unbelievable.
I saw one. I saw Elvis, took us three nights
to watch it. When you have a soon to be
two year old, you'll understand. Thank you, he's talking to
you about the soon two year old. So I got
a puppy. She's enough. She got sick the other night.
(31:18):
That was a long night. So yeah, Oscars, no boyno,
no boyno blame social media. You haven't taken the Oscars
to nine. Aaron Odd, I can't name one movie that
was really I think Elvis. Yeah, there you go. I
just gave you the top gun. There it is, according
to monsters, who's gonna win this Big ten championship game?
Come on? Oh my goodness, I'm gonna penn State. I'll say,
(31:41):
my favorite thing about Zach Edy is when he guards
the inbounds. Like you want to know how enormous Zach
Dy is, it's when he got uh you know, is
able to guard the inbounds play and uh Penn State.
I think just drew a foul. Foul I actually that's
(32:02):
the remix. I think he traveled. It was a traveling
go by the way, Zeki tip the inbound. So yeah,
it helps when you have a seven four guy like
I mean, he just looks enormous. Well, there was a
whistle on the floor and that's where the Penn State
turned it over. I thought that there was maybe a
follow because the three point attempt that happened after the
(32:23):
travel occurred ended up being an airball. So Purdue is
going to be able to inbound it. This is where
you could also just have Dy because he's so tall,
just throw it over into your backcourt. But they're actually
not going to have him. They're actually gonna throw it
to him, and that's it. Perdue is gonna win the
Big Ten Tournament. They just did sixty seven sixty five
(32:43):
over Penn State. Memphis has just won the American Athletic
Conference with their win over a Marcus sasser Less Houston
Cougar squad. All right, Monsey, good job. Enjoy the Oscars tonight, Okay,
Peter Hodswitter at Lanias. Find Aaron on Twitter at Aaron
Underscore tours. He can find me on Twitter at Dan
Buyer on Fox. All right, who's the number one of
(33:05):
the number ones, who are going to get number one seeds?
And who's in and who's out? Aaron Torres and I
will tell you all of that. Coming up next is
the bracket is nineteen minutes away here on Fox Sports Radio. Hey,

(34:08):
Twitter at Aaron Underscore Tours. You can find me on
Twitter at Dan Buyer on Fox. So when the committee
makes and reveals their bracket here and now eleven minutes,
the four number one seeds will be Aaron Torres. Very
boring answer, Alabama, Kansas, Perdue, and Houston. I don't think
(34:30):
even though Houston just lost, that they will be dinged
for it. I think the four that we thought coming
into today holds up. That is exactly what I had
as well. Again, as you said, this kind of the
general thinking of it. My question then when it comes
to the two line, I actually don't think that this
is as difficult as it may seem. But when it
(34:52):
comes to the two line, who do you think we
see when the bracket is released in now ten minutes?
All right, so two line would be Texas, it would
be UCLA, I think Arizona. I feel pretty good so
far seven for seven. The final two I would say
(35:16):
comes down to either Marquette or Baylor. I'd probably go
with Marquette. But I could see Baylor. Do you have
somebody else for the final, it would be Marquette. That
would be eight for eight, and and it sets out
like if you have the top for what I think
are going to be the top eight seeds exactly Alabama.
I think Alabama will be the number one overall. Um
(35:38):
they they'll be able to play in Birmingham for the
first two days at Kansas number one, they can play
in Des Moines. My guests Purdue, I think Purdue goes
to Columbus instead of De Moines, so they go to Columbus, Ohio,
which will be a little bit better for Purdue because
that's a Friday Sunday situation. The Moine is Thursday Saturday.
And in the west, Houston. I think Houston's gonna play
(36:01):
in Birmingham as well. It's weird because it's nothing that's
necessarily like super close to them, but Birmingham. The only
issue there is that's Thursday Saturday, so that that could
be an issue for Marcus Sasser and the growing injury
where he wouldn't have a day, So Houston maybe put
up against that. But that's that's what I had as
the top. I had Ucla Texas, Marquette in Arizona. I
(36:21):
honestly didn't know about Gonzaga UM but UM, but I
put them as a three seed. That's where I had them. Gonzaga,
for all of the angst about how you know they
fell off this year, the resume is kind of very impressive.
They beat Alabama on what was a neutral It was
in Birmingham, so it was in Alabama. They beat Xavier,
who was obviously the big Big East runner up in
(36:44):
both the regular season and postseason tournament. They beat Saint
Mary's in their conference twice out of three trips UM
and they had a couple other good wins in the
out of conference as well. No, by the way, the
losses that they they beat Michigan State, etc. The losses
that they had, UM you know, they they they lose
by one to Baylor. So you look at who they
played and where they're like, they have a very impressive
(37:05):
resume all things considered, It's just not what we've come
to expect from Gonzaga. I know there was some speculation
as well that UCLA and Arizona could be UM put
in the same first round site that they could play
in Sacramento. I actually think Arizona is going to play
in Denver, Ucla will play in Sacramento. Laws Gonzaga as
(37:27):
a three seed, they could play in Sacramento. The travel
distance when you're flying by playing from Sacramento to two
Sound or Denver to two Sound, vice versa negligible, like
it's it's it's so I think I think Arizona's end
ends up in Denver, Ucla and Gonzaga and Sacramento. This
is always my biggest gripe. I hate that we focus
(37:47):
too much on geography when seeding teams because at the
end of the day, if you're playing Thursday, you're going
to leave the same time the same day from campus,
whether it's a two hour bus ride or a six
hour plane ride. I wish we were just make the
most balanced bracket that we can. I don't think that
we will, which leads to an interesting thing of like
Arizona or UCLAB in the two out West, I think
is unfair to the one out there. So sure, yeah,
(38:09):
that that that is. But but the sites don't matter
when it comes to UM really, when like like Arizona
could be a one seat in playing in Denver, they
could be a two seat and played never so like that,
like that aspect doesn't matter, but they do. I know
that they've they've done this, They have gone on their
iPhone and mapped it out. How long does it take
to get from you know, you know West Lafietta, Columbus,
(38:31):
How long does it take to get you know, from
West Lafieta Des Moines to figure out what is best?
And I do think as well, I thought at one
point it could be wrong about this, but you could
have preference of seeds as well, um or of sites
if there was something that was close. Um I thought
there was something with Duke within the last year or
so of like they would rather have been in this
(38:52):
spot as opposed to this spot, which was a little
bit closer. Well, I think all that I know is
that if you're in contention for the number one seed,
for the number one overall, see they do ask you
what regional would you prefer? That could have been, Yeah,
that could have been the scenario. But they ask, you know,
seven eight teams over the course of the final few
weeks of the season that are in contention for that spot.
All right, so our top eight are actually the same
who's gonna have their heart main and who's gonna have
(39:15):
their heart broken when it comes to the bubble. I'll
just say this, it feels like NC State is always
on the wrong side of anything related. Remember College World
Series they had to basically cancel because of COVID a
few years ago when they were in a position to
win it. They were the first team out a few
years ago. It just feels like everything is lining up
for them to be screwed. I've seen a lot on bracketology,
and this goes back to the Mountain West where we've
(39:36):
seen Nevada and Utah states in Boise State. I think
it would be an absolute disservice by the committee if
they were to put two Mountain West Conference teams in
the first four. Sure like, I think you need to
at least allow one of them to be able to
play on Thursday or Friday. What is another interesting side
as this bracket is released, Greensboro just host to the
NCAA tournament, also going to be hosting a regional or
(39:58):
excuse me, a first round site. You could have Duke
playing on the same court in two weeks. We actually
could be a little bit of an advantage if Duke
get Serve, Virginia gets a high enough seed. Fair. Yeah,
not North Carolina. So it's gonna say North Carolina. I said, no,
that makes no sense insulting the wound. These erontaras. I'm
Dan Bayer. We got the bracket coming up next year

makes the Field of sixty eight. Now we know about
the automatic qualifiers, and we know even some at large teams.
Bubbles will be bursting over the next forty minutes or so.
(40:59):
We will have you here on Fox Sports Radio. Aaron Tarez,
you think Alabama number one overall seed? Do you think
that's what we're gonna see here in a matter of seconds.
I do think Alabama will be the number one overall seed.
SEC regular season champion, SEC Tournament champion, a great out
of conference resume. Kansas lost also, I think, which is
an important note. I think there is an argument because
of Kansas's overall resume that they get that number one
(41:21):
overall seed. It's Alabama. So the NCAA Tournament will begin
on Tuesday and then Wednesday with the first four games
in Dayton. Then on Thursday you will have first and
second round games in Sacramento, Orlando, Des Moines, in Birmingham.
On Friday, Denver, Albany, Greensboro, and Columbus. The number one
overall seed in the ncuba A Tournament is Alabama. So Aeratars,
(41:44):
you're one for one, all right. They are the number
one seed in the South Region. The South Regional, by
the way, we'll be played in Louisville, Kentucky. Alabama will
be playing their first round games in Birmingham, Alabama, just
like we thought, getting that home cooking early. They are
on their way to Louisville, where the Crimson Tide will
face the winner of the Texas and m Corpus Christie
(42:07):
Southeast Missouri state matchup that will be played Tuesday in Dayton,
So A and M. Corpus Christie and you had Southeast
Missouri State. They were actually, believe the first team to
actually win their conference tournament in punch a bid head
away a long time. Now they're going to be the
first team to play in the NCAA tournament, taking on
Texas A and M. Corpus Christie in Birminghallow in Dayton.
(42:30):
The winner of that game getting Alabama in Birmingham. This
again South Region games is the Brackett is just being released.
The eight nine matchup. I'm guessing we're gonna see a
big ten team here, and just as I said that,
Maryland pops up, so you're gonna see a lot of
Big ten between seven and ten. Maryland the eight seed
in the South Region again. These games in Birmingham coming
(42:52):
up on Thursday and Saturday. They get Bob Huggins in
West Virginia in an eight nine matchup. West Virginia from
the Big twelve. Maryland plays really fast, really fun. That
would be a fun matchup with Alabama if they were
to play in the second round. By the way, West
Virginia physical and tough, much like Alabama, that would be
a grind the fifth seed in the South Region winners
of the Mountain West Conference regular season and tournament. San
(43:15):
Diego State the five seed. These games will be played
in Orlando Thursday and Saturday. San Diego State gets Charleston
once the College of Charleston now just known as the
Charleston Cougars. San Diego State in Charleston in a five
to twelve matchup in Orlando on Thursday. Thirty plus regular
season wins for Charleston, they were at one point ranked
(43:35):
in the top twenty five. Really good team. The four
seed in the South Region in the fourth thirteen matchup again,
these are Thursday Saturday games in Orlando. The runner up
in the ACC tournament Virginia. Virginia now the four seed.
I did have them and as a four seed they
will take on the thirteen seed Fermin Squad Platins. The
(43:58):
Fermin Platins number thirteen taking on Virginia in the first round.
Tough team out of the Southern Conference. I believe the
status six straight years they finished in the top three
in that conference. First time they have received their automatic
bid out of that league. That's the Thursday and Saturday games.
Now jumping to the South Region, these are Friday games
in Denver. Creton out of the Big East getting the
(44:21):
six seeds, so the Creton Blue Jays will go to
Denver in games that will take place on Friday and
second round games on Sunday. Creton is the sixth seed.
This is where we could see the bubble. This is
kind of our first look at the bubble. NC State
is in. So the wolf Pack in the ACC they
get in. That was the team Aaron that said that
that you know, bad luck has been on the side
(44:42):
of NC State. They finally get some good fortune and
get in the break. Yes, I was one for one
on Bama, oh for one on bubble. I'm happy. I
thought NC State was a good team all year. Baylor
is the three seed. They will be playing in Denver
on Friday. So a three seed for Baylor from the
Big Twelve taking on the Gauchos. If you see Santa
Barbara that won the Big last night with a win
over cal State Fullerton. Cal State Fullerton or excuse me,
(45:05):
Santa Barbara, a very good team out of the Big West,
really solid squad. Missouri the seventh seed in the South Region.
Now we'll play Thursday in Sacramento. This will be interesting
to see. This could be a spot where we see
UCLA Utah State will take on Missouri. So Utah State
Aaron not only not on the bubble safely in making
it to the Mountain West Conference final yesterday, you got
(45:27):
your wish you were hoping for, not multiple Mountain West
teams in Dayton, and they deserve it, I think after
the run to the Mountain West Championship. Here's a bit
of a twist. Arizona gets the two seed over UCLA
in this region. Playing in Sacramento doesn't mean that UCLA
won't get there in a different region, but the two
seed in the South is Arizona, so the Wildcats will
go to Arizona, despite that being the same distance from Denver.
(45:51):
Arizona gets the Princeton Tigers, winners of the Ivy League Tournament,
the IVY League winners today, Princeton punches their ticket again.
Those games are in Sacramento on Thursday and Saturday. What's
interesting about that Arizona being the two seed in the
South means UCLA will almost certainly be the two set
out West. Both of those fan bases were hoping for
(46:11):
the West region to get an advantageous draw. A place
where they can get their fans out to that game. Arizona, obviously,
if they were to advance, would be going to Louisville.
They would not be going to Las Vegas. Furman I think.
I think there's a veteran play with Furman that you
can maybe look at them against Virginia. It's always going
to be a close game, but when you play Virginia
(46:32):
and they're up seven, it's like they're up fourteen. But
that four thirteen matchup something to look at. I really
like Utah State. I watched the lotta Mountain West. That's
not the reason why I was focusing on, but they
were the only Nonpower six team with bubble teams. Good
to see Utah State. Now the question for that conference
is where's Boise State? Where's Nevada. I think Boise State
(46:53):
is in not so optimistic for the wolf Pack. So
there's your South Region for the twenty twenty three NCUBAA tournament. Again,
the top four seeds Alabama, the one, Arizona, the two, Baylor,
the three, Virginia the four. If I'm looking at that
bracket really quick, something to keep an eye on. Baylor
has not been playing well of late. I think the
(47:16):
winner of that create an NC State game is going
to give them a lot of trouble in that part
of the region. So so what I think, We're just
gonna kind of hang tight here. We're gonna see on
what happens with this bracket. Maybe what we'll do is
actually we'll take our time out there. So we got
a fourth of the bracket in. We know one of
the playing games, excuse me, the first four games we'll
be A and M Corpus Christie against Southeast of Missouri.
(47:38):
But that bubble is still there. He's Aeron Torres. I'm
Dan Bayer. This is the Selections Sunday Special here on
Fox Sports Radio. Fox Sports Radio Special edition of Fox
Sports Sunday. He's Eron Taures. I'm Dan Bayer. Live from
the Tireact dot Com studios. The field of sixty eight
is being released as we speak. The mid West region
(48:00):
Brackett is being announced, and we will break that down
with you. What we can tell you is that the
two number one seeds that we know earlier, Alabama in
the number one overall seed in the South region, Houston
the number one seed in the Midwest region. And this
is how the Midwest region breaks down right now, Houston
is the number one overall seed. They'll play in Birmingham
(48:21):
on Thursday, and if they win on Saturday, their first
round opponent will be the sixteen seeded Northern Kentucky North.
So that comes Thursday Saturday in Birmingham. The eight nine matchup,
it's the Bruce Pearls showdown. Pearl once an assistant at Iowa,
Another are a bunch of stops in between erin, but
it's Iowa against Auburn in an eight nine matchup in
Birmingham on Thursday. Should be an intriguing matchup. Should be
(48:46):
an intriguing matchup. I can't wait till you get to
the bottom of this bracket because there is a second
round matchup that the world needs to see. But I'll
I'll let you do. The five twelve matchup in Albany
in the Midwest Region to be played Friday Sunday. They'll
be Friday Sunday games in Albany feature Miami against Drake.
So Drake advances. They are twelve seed. They will take
(49:09):
on the fifth seeded Miami Hurricanes. Indiana, the fourth seed,
will take on Kent State from the MAC After the
Flashes advanced with a win yesterday, So Indiana Kent State
four thirteen, Miami Drake five twelve. The other side of
the brackett Iowa State will take on the winner of
the Mississippi State PIT game. That is one of the
first four games. That game is in Greensboro on Friday Sunday,
(49:32):
so Mississippi State PIT will be playing on Wednesday in Dayton.
But Iowa State, the sixth seed, gets the winner of
that Mississippi State Pit. Those are two teams that were
obviously on the bubble and now we found out they
were two of the final teams that got into the bracket.
Xavier's the three seed in the Mountain in the Midwest,
they'll take on Kennesaw State in the fourteen matchup. And
this is what as Aaron salivating. Texas A and M
(49:53):
is the seventh seed. They get ten seeded Penn States,
who just took Purdue down to the wire in the
Big Ten tournament. The two seed the Texas Longhorns. It'll
be an SEC show down in a couple of years,
but right now it is a Big twelve versus SEC
matchup Texas. That is, if Texas can get past Colgate
and A and M can get past Penn State. Yeah,
two thoughts on that bottom part of the bracket. One,
(50:15):
Cold Gates actually pretty good team. They took Arkansas down
on the wire a few years ago in the tournament.
Penn State. We just saw what they did against Purdue.
But you get Texas, Texas A and M in the
NCAA tournament. You know, Dan, you love college sports as
much as I do. There are some rivalries that are cordial.
And yeah, when they play on the field or the
quarter that this or the that, they don't like each other.
(50:37):
But then the game is over and they shake hands
and everybody gets along. Texas and Texas A and M
fans legitimately hate each other. They despise each other's existence.
I first of all, Texas and probably shouldn't have been
a seven. They kind of got screwed there. But for
the content, it is going to be unbelievable. The streets
(50:58):
of Des Moines. I don't even know what they're going
to be like going into that game. If we get it,
this is this is what is interesting. This goes back
to the conversation. If you missed it last hour, I'll
just touch on it again. The conversation comes up does
through the Sunday games matter. Through the Sunday games matter
when determining seating. Heading into today, you'll see bracketologists looking
at Joe Leonardi's for example from ESPN. He has Texas
(51:21):
C ANDM is a five seed. This was at the
start of the day before they lost to Alabama, and
in the SEC championship game, Penn State was a nine seed.
Penn States just took pretty. They had to come back
to do it, but they were They had possession down
two with three point three seconds left. Ability to win
the Big Ten tournament. They're a ten seed and another
committee doesn't weigh the tournament more heavy than or heavier
(51:45):
than the rest of the season. But I just I
don't if Penn State wins today, they still attend probably well.
And look at the one and two seed in this bracket, right,
I mean, we had the conversation, MEPH Houston loses their
conference championship game, should that bump up Tech to the
one line? Texas Stays is the two, Houston Stays is
the one. So I think it's probably is proof that
(52:05):
today doesn't matter. One other note, people are kind of
mentioning this. Remember last year Texas a and M being
left out after playing in the conference championship game losing
to Tennessee. Buzz Williams, does this incredible? Prior to the
n I t if you remember, he took notes to
the podium, yes, and did like a seven minute speech.
Yet yeah, and you know that that's the common refrain
(52:26):
on social media right now is the NCAA did not forget.
I don't think anybody in that room cares over members.
But Texas A and M. It does feel like probably
got a little hurt on their seating, finishing second in
the SEC regular season and then of course runners up
in the conference tournament. Texas the two seed again, they
will play in Des Moines against Colgate and that's Thursday
and Saturday. Texas A and M's got Penn State. I
(52:48):
will say this. I will say this, You're gonna have
them play on Thursday for that matchup. At least you
have two teams, two schools that played today that that well,
I mean Texas A and M and Penn State now
of the same amount of rest. Essentially, Texas A and and
M's got what three hours on him maybe at best.
But to talk about the seeding of Texas A and M.
Jerry Palm of CBS Sports had his bracketology at the
(53:11):
start of the day, Texas A and M was a
four seed. Wow, Yeah, it seems to be a refrain.
Even non SEC fans seemed to be saying, how did
they end up with a seven? It is worth noting
though Texas A and M had a brutal out of
conference resume to start the season. They were a team
that early in the year really struggled. They took some
bad losses early. Jilinardi, by the way, had them as
(53:32):
a five. But this was a team that lost to Murray,
stayed on a neutral floor, lost to Colorado on a
neutral floor. Both of those teams weren't very good. Loss
to Wafford at home that probably played a role in
all of it. Kansas is the number one seed in
the West Region, so the Kansas Jayhawks get the number
one seed in the West if they advanced to the
regional that will be in Las Vegas on the Thursday
(53:53):
and Saturday, a regional semifinal and regional finals. But Kansas
is the number one seed in the West, so we
are three for three on our number one overall seeds
had them in different regions. I thought Kansas was going
to get the one in the Midwest and Houston we
get the number one in the West. They flip flopped.
Kansas gets Howard in the first round. Howard twenty two
(54:15):
and twelve record. They'll play in Des Moines on Thursday
and Saturday in the In the first round one sixteen matchup,
the eight seed Arkansas will take on number nine Illinois.
So here we go. Tell you the big ten is
just making its hey, and the seven to ten matchup,
you're going to see a lot of Big ten. Eric
(54:36):
Musselman now going up against Brad Underwood and the fighting
a line. I should be a lot of fighting a line.
I fans just stayed over in des Moines, Iowa. Big
ten countries. I suspect so as well. Yea so des Moines,
Iowa Thursday Saturday. Now these games moving to Albany, New York.
Saint Mary's out of the West Coast Conference, the regular
(54:57):
season winner losing to Gonzaga in the title game. Saint
Mary's is the five seed VCU winner of the A
ten is the twelve. The four seed in Albany, Aaron's
alma mater of Yukon, Yukon getting the four seed in
Friday Sunday matchups again Albany, New York, where the Huskies
at twenty five and eight will face mc beatino in
the IONA Gaals, winners of the MAAC last night. Iona
(55:23):
nice run to the tournament. When you can play a
double digit seed in the final, it works out. But
Yukon Iona in a matchup in Albany now in the
six to eleven game in Denver. These games are in Denver, Colorado.
Coming up on Friday Sunday. TCU in the West Region
is the sixth seed Arizona State against Nevada. So Nevada
gets in. Now you're wondering, Okay, Arizona State and Nevada,
(55:48):
Mississippi State and pitt the final four teams in the bracket.
ASU against Nevada. That's Bobby Hurley against Steve Alford. Not
a bad matchup of former guards when it comes to
head and coaching matchups. But they're gonna end up playing well.
That's interesting because that's a Friday matchup that we have. Also,
there's we'll get to We'll get to the scheduling just
(56:08):
a little bit. Gonzaga is now the three seed. They
will be going to Denver a three seed. You and
I thought maybe there was an opportunity for them to
get a two, but they stay in the three line.
They'll take on Grand Canyon, who clinched last night. They're
automatic bid by winning the whack, So Gonzaga takes on
Grand Canyon in Denver, coming up on Friday and Sunday
(56:29):
the seventh seed. These games will be played in Sacramento.
I think this is where you're gonna see UCLA, Northwestern,
and again Big Ten. The Big Ten has got a
lock on the seventh through ten seeds. Northwestern gets the
seventh seed again. This is a game in Sacramento Thursday
through Saturday. I'm sure Mike Harmon is already now booking
his travel plans for Sacramento. They will take on Boise State.
(56:53):
So Boise State gets in, so the Boise State Broncos
will take on Northwestern in a seven ten match up.
The two fifteen matchup on Thursday in Sacramento. Ucla, without
Jalen Clark, runners up in the back twelve tournament. UCLA
ends up getting the two seed, so close they get
(57:14):
to the plan in Sacramento. What is interesting though, is
UCLA gets the nod of staying out West aaron As
opposed to Arizona unc Asheville will be the Bruins opponent
in that two fifteen game on Thursday in Sacramento. Yeah.
I think the big thing there is Yukon getting the
four seed. You do have the advantageous straw in Albany,
(57:36):
but there's an East Regional in New York City that
I think all Yukon fans had their eyes on. Now
you have to go through Rick Pattino in round one
at Iona, and then of course, if you are to advance,
you get to the West Regional final. By the way,
shout out to my mom who has a place in Vegas.
West Regional is in Vegas. I guarantee she'll be at
the T Mobile Center. If you'll be there, will you
(57:57):
be there? I have a friend getting married on the Friday,
and I just found out there is a rehearsal that
are on Thursday. And he's a he's a college basketball fan. Man,
how do you do this? How do you do that
to Torres? And then he put him in the wedding.
So this is here's here's I'm going to point out
(58:19):
something that's that I'm curious on if if my figuring
out is correct, and it is correct. So the play
the first for I'm sorry to say play in NCAA,
but the first four games you have two matchups of
eleven seeds. You have Mississippi State and Pitt, and then
you also have Arizona State and Nevada. Those next games
(58:42):
AARON are on Friday. Usually what happens is it staggered.
The eleven seeds would battle it out on a on
a Tuesday, and then they have to play on Thursday.
Here is a scenario. If the schedule plays out like
it normally does, and we don't know when the first
four games actually will take place, but you have two
battles of the eleven seeds with games going on Friday.
(59:04):
So the point is is, I don't know if they're
going to put the first four on a Tuesday with
Mississippi State and Pitt and Nevada and Arizona State, because
if they play on a Tuesday, you're gonna get an
extra day of rest. You understand what I'm saying. Like like,
so the first the first round game after the first
four games of both of those matchups would take place
(59:26):
on Friday. Usually it's split evenly between eleven two eleven
seeds would play in Dayton on Thursday, then the winner
would move on to play Thursday, and then the next
night we'd have a battle of eleven seeds or twelve seeds,
and the winner of that game would then go to
play on Friday. Right now, the two non sixteen seed
matchups that we have in Dayton both will have the
(59:47):
next rounds being on Friday for those winners. So yeah,
the first four is on Tuesday and Wednesday, But it's
just the X. Are they going to schedule the first
four on Wednesday for both of those eleven seed games,
which would give one team an extra day of rest
and preparation. I don't think they will. I think the
(01:00:07):
big thing is I think it was Mike Bray last
year complained because they had a Tuesday night game and
then they played like early Thursday. So maybe they just
scheduled it where, hey, at least everybody gets at least
one day, and in some cases you're gonna get too.
I see what you're saying. Usually that that Tuesday, the
Tuesday winners would play a Thursday tournament opener, and the
(01:00:29):
Wednesday winners in the first four games. Not not the
the P word, the Wednesday games would be played that
they would play on Friday. So I remember Mike Bray
complaining about this. Last year, Notre Dame beat Rutgers in
overtime and it was a quick turnaround. They actually played
in San Diego. Now they ended up beating Alabama in
round one, so it didn't matter. But I wonder if
(01:00:49):
some of that was into consideration for these bubble teams.
The Greensborough is the site where Mississippi State, the winner
of the Mississippi State pit game will go to face
Iowa State. It was in a state Nevada winner goes
to Denver, So both of those schools have to fly
out west, go to Dayton for a game, and then
they'll flight to Denver on their way back, or whatever
school wins the other one obviously going home. Let's jump
(01:01:11):
to the news desk. He's Heer Andres I'm dan Buyer.
Three quarters of the bracket left. We'll tell you some
of the schools whose names haven't been called yet and
why those bubbles could be burst. But first let's go
to Manzi Balanos for the latest and what else is
happening on the selection Sunday. What else is happening are
other things just important? Are they agree? I agree? I mean,
I mean, I'll tell you, Scotty Scheffler has just had
(01:01:34):
a walk in the park for the last two hours,
so that's not even close to you know, being he's
been killing it this today. He was killing it, Scottie Scheffler.
And then I saw always gonna make twenty five million
for this. Okay, well you'll get four of the overall
purses twenty five, but he'll make about four million dollars.
That's a nice chunk of change. That's he pulled away
because he wasn't He was tied earlier today and then
(01:01:55):
now he pulled away, so good for him. Well that
is happening. There's also NBA happening. I can't believe I'm
saying this, because this is weird, you guys. The Nets
beat the Nuggets in Denver and Nicola Yokis had a
triple double. What exact Isn't that the weirdest thing to say?
The Brooklyn Nets beat the Denver Nuggets at home one
(01:02:16):
twenty two to one twenty and Nicola Yokas had a
triple double thirty five points, twenty rebounds, eleven assists, and
they didn't win I think they had one off season
at home when we had a triple double. Oh man,
all right, this is nuts. So see, I guess it
is just as important. Yes, yes, I'll tell you what
motz do you have? Are there any other scores? Because
(01:02:38):
the brackets are now being released again. Hornet's beating the
Camp seventy to sixty three. Seven it happens to go
in the third seventy six ers beating Tis twenty two
to eight late in the first quarter. Back to you guys,
all right and Scotti, Yeah, Scottie Scheffler is about to
win at the Players Championship. Now onto the final region.
Thanks Matzy. It's a crazy day. It's a crazy selection Sunday.
We're in our final region. So Purdue will take on
(01:02:59):
the winner. Well, this is that graphics wrong? Yes, there's
a there's an incorrect graphic on Purdue is going to
be the one seed. But hey, everybody makes Surry State,
Ann Howard, There we go Texas Southern and fairly dig
that's who it is. Fdu against Texas Southern, some twenty
three year old in turn in. There's going to be
a big trouble. Purduce is the number one seed in
(01:03:20):
the East Region. These are Friday Sunday games in Columbus.
Memphis is the eight seed. So you win the conference
tournament over a number one seed Houston squad, and again
you don't get you win the turn. You win the
American Athletic Conference tournament, and you're an eight seed. They
will face well, this is interesting, Florida Atlantic. They just
showed Florida Atlantic on the screen before they even revealed
(01:03:43):
the name, so FAU against Memphis in an eight nine
matchup in Columbus on Friday. Memphis is a really good
team playing well. Obviously beat Houston today flor Atlantic thirty
one in three overall. So there are a few bubble
teams Rutgers, USC clums and Vanderbilt, Wisconsin, Oklahoma State, North Carolina,
Oregon again all waiting to hear their name. Duke has
just heard their name. They're the five seed in the
(01:04:04):
East Region playing in Orlando on Thursday Saturday, the twelve seeded,
the twelve seed that's gonna face Duke. Oral Roberts, who
made a run to the Sweet sixteen a couple of
years ago. In the twenty twenty one tournament, Oral Roberts
Golden Eagles, the twelve seed, so duke of five seed,
I thought dude could be higher. Honestly, I thought that
(01:04:25):
they would. And no Greensboro for them, which obviously no advantageous,
you know, geographical advantage for them. Oral Roberts, by the way,
a very high scoring team. They could put up points
on you. So now we're just waiting for the fourth
thirteen matchup. Tennessee is the four seed in the East,
and the matchup after this is really good. We're gonna
find out on whose bubble burst and who ends up
(01:04:47):
making the tournament. Louisiana now the thirteen seed, This eleven
spot in this ten spot that we're going to come
up on Aaron, are the final two opportunities four bubble
teams to get in. Here we go the final eight
teams in the NCAA tournament. Kentucky is the sixth seed,
playing in Greensboro on Friday, So that's a Friday Sunday.
(01:05:08):
The eleventh seed that will face the Kentucky Wildcats will
be as we patiently wait. He's surprised that Kentucky has
a sixth seed. No, no, they've been up and down
all year, but up and down all year. They get
the providence Friars. It looks like yeah, and Providence is
and they weren't really on the bubble. I felt like
(01:05:30):
that they were more safely in than other schools. But
Providence ends up getting in. As you heard Aaron say,
six eleven matchups and now the three seed in the
East Region that will play in Greensboro coming up on Friday,
Kansas State out of the Big twelve. The Big Twelve
love there for the k State Wildcats. So Kansas State
(01:05:51):
is a three seed playing in Greensboro. Yeah, Kansas State
a really good team member. Keyante Johnson, the player who unfortunately,
you know, felt fainted on the court, had hard issues.
He's back. He's playing in Kansas State this year. And
they've got the Montana State Bobcats, winners of the Big Sky.
So Montana State is in the dance on the automatic
(01:06:12):
bid as a fourteen seeds. Now the seven ten match
up in Columbus, Ohio coming up on Friday. Michigan State,
Tomizos squad, Michigan State. He's the seventh seed in Rutgers
USC maybe in one of this ten spot and I
think that would be the Well, it can't be Rutgers
because they're in the Big Ten. So it's USC. So
(01:06:33):
Rutgers is not going to make the NCAA tournament. And
it's Michigan State USC Friday in Columbus, Ohio, and the
two fifteen matchup the final two seed, I would think
it's the Marquette Golden Eagles. There, it is Marquette. The
two seed. Winners of the Big East regular season and
tournament get the final two seed, and the final spot
(01:06:56):
in the tournament goes to an automatic qualifier that will
face show as Smart and the Golden Eagles coming up
on Friday. And that I remember, I don't think of
anybody Vermont, Yes, well Mont gets the final spot in
the tournament. Woke up to about six texts from Artie
Spaniard today, Hey, all the bracketology you con Vermont? What
(01:07:18):
do you think? I'm like, I'll just wait two hours
for the bracket to come out of So this is
I think. I think that people would be surprised Rutgers
did not get in. Yeah. I think it was a
bad day for the Big Ten. Wisconsin was on the bubble,
Michigan was on the fringes of the bubble. Neither of
them did enough. Apparently in Rutgers is out, So how
much do you think? Here here a list of schools
(01:07:40):
that did not make it that we considered on the bubble,
Rutgers not making it, You mentioned Wisconsin, clumbs In didn't
make it, Vanderbilt didn't make it, Oklahoma State, North Carolina, Oregon,
and Michigan. Those are the teams and some were further out,
you know, with less of a chance. But still you're wondering, Okay,
could an argument be made for one of those school
(01:08:01):
Not a bad list of teams, but you watch Vanderbilt
play like they did against Kentucky and you're saying, how
is this not an NCAA tournament team? And then you
see them play against Texas A and M and then
you say, that's how they're not an nca A tournament team.
So this was a year it was really hard to
justify it in. You know, it's an impossible job from
(01:08:22):
the committee. But you know, I like that a Utah
State that played really well in their conference tournament in
Arizona State who played pretty well, had had a couple
of must win games that they won, were given the
advantage over a Wisconsin that lost in a play in game,
A Michigan who could not get out of the eight
nine game. I like the fact that there's a little
bit more balanced still eight teams from the Big Ten,
but I think at certain points it was projected as
(01:08:44):
nine ten, maybe even more. The Big Ten an SEC
get and eight, Big Twelve gets in seven. The ACC
and Big East each get in five. So the last
four in according to the committee Mississippi State, Pit Arizona State,
and Nevada. The first four outs according to the committee,
Oklahoma State, Rutgers, North Carolina, and Clemson. So the sixty
(01:09:04):
nine team was Oklahoma State, Rutgers wasn't even in that conversation, Vanderbilton, Wisconsin.
I think Wisconsin kind of knew. I think Vandy was hoping,
but they really weren't even close to making into the
tournament according to these to this information now, and I
think because there there were no what they call Brackett
bid stealers, like teams in a power conference multi bid
conference that were expected to win that you know, surprise
(01:09:26):
teams that won those conferences. So there were more bubble
teams that we're going to get in this year by
the nature of how things broke. I don't think anybody
really has a strong argument. I think Oklahoma State finished
about eighteen and thirteen overall in the regular season. Yes,
it's a tough conference, but didn't win enough of those
games that they needed to. Had a chance against Texas
in their opener, they did not win. And it's eighteen
and fifteen is what Oklahoma State finished with overall, and
(01:09:49):
they really struggled down the stretch. Don't think there was
much of a justification. There's no pity party not including
them all. Right, field of sixty eight is now set.

That's it. That's the ad. There are some things that
we do want to clear up from the madness of
the sixty eight team field being released for the NC
DOUBLEA Tournament, with the action getting underway in Dayton on Tuesday.
(01:11:57):
The latest that I have seen are there. Tuesday matchups
will be Southeast Missouri State against Texas A and I'm
Corpus Christie and then the eleven matchup PIT against Mississippi State.
And that means Wednesday will have Fairley Dickinson against Texas
Southern and the sixteen seed Nevada will take on Arizona
State on Wednesday. But that does allow the winner of
(01:12:18):
the Pit Mississippi State game to get an extra day
of rest as they will travel to Greensboro, which, by
the way, not super far from Dayton to Greensboro. But
the winner of the Mississippi State pit game will have
an extra day of rest, which is probably something that
Iowa State doesn't love, but really, why should Iowa State get,
(01:12:38):
you know, so much of an advantage, But they're going
to get an extra day, whereas Nevada and Arizona State
they're going to just have to go on forty eight
hours rest, and Iowa State will still have forty eight
hours more rest than whoever they end up playing in
that opening round or the first round game. So yeah,
it's interesting how it all lays out. I think this
(01:13:00):
my biggest takeaway is looking at this bracket. I know
we got an hour to kind of break it down
seed by seed, region by region, but I think it
really is exactly how we led the show. Is because
UCLA loss last night and because Perdue ended up winning,
there really wasn't anyone that could make a real strong
argument about the one line outside of the top four.
And I see there's some pushback about Kansas not being
(01:13:21):
the number one overall seed, which we can discuss an
hour two, but you know, number one seeds were pretty
much set the bubble. There were no teams that really
I don't think there's anybody that can really make a
compelling argument that they just got royally screwed. Now, part
of it is because the Florida Atlantics, the Charleston Southern's
they won their conference tournaments, leaving the committee with nothing
(01:13:41):
to worry about there but two. Because there were no
bid stealers. It just it just feels like it's a
pretty clean black bracket. I think, you know, an A
and M fan can't complain about their their draw or
there their seeding. A Kansas fan can't complain about not
being the number one overall seed. But overall, it doesn't
feel like there's really a ton to gripe about. No,
it doesn't, but I think that you will hear some
(01:14:02):
griping from Arizona fans in terms of being in Alabama's region.
And listen, I remember this like it was yesterday, and
I actually feel bad about asking about this. I think
it was what it was in the tournament when Iowa
was the two seed and M were they in the
(01:14:23):
I'm gonna ask I was Sam this? So was it
two years ago when they had to face Oregon in
the second round? And who's the number one seed? Was
it Gonzaga that year? Was it? Yeah? Because Gonzaga was
number one of they had Jalen Sugs number one and
we had Fran McCaffrey on and I asked him like, like,
are you guys mad that you guys who were placed
in Gonzaga's bracket? And you know, you you know, it
(01:14:46):
was just like, well, you know, we got to focus
on who were going to play in our first round game,
and that's kind of like what you're like, there's no
there is zero guarantee that you're going to face the
number one seed. So my point is is if you're Arizona,
I think that fan ends have a gripe of being like,
all right, well, how are we in in Alabama's bracket
and being moved out of the West region. Yep, But
(01:15:09):
in reality, you know, it's it's it's difficult to project
how the bracket's gonna look three rounds from now, for sure,
is my point. So there's just very little griping. But
I think that that the loudest gripe that you would hear,
at least from the top teams would be would be
maybe outside of Kansas because of what Houston ended up getting,
(01:15:31):
but I think could come from Arizona. Yeah, And I
think especially because they have two wins head to head
against UCLA, who ended up as the number two seat
out west. Both of those packed current pack twelve school
they're not gonna be there forever, but current pack twelve schools,
they were both angling for that two seat out west
where they would be close to home. Ucla gets it
despite having two losses in three games against Arizona. Arizona also,
(01:15:53):
by the way, played a very tough out of conference schedule.
They played in the Maui Invitational, they hosted Tennessee, they
played Indiana on a neutral core. And so I just
bring that up to say that I think Arizona fans
coming out of the PAC twelfth championship game last night,
thought they had a more impressive resume than UCLA and
should be put ahead of them on a seed line
despite UCLA's regular season championship impact. Yeah, just the health
(01:16:15):
of UCLA. It's a whole other thing. Which then also,
now you want to bring in Houston to the conversation
of Marcus Sasser, but it's something that we had talked about.
I did not think that Houston should be penalized for
the Marcus Sasser injury, and as it turns out, they
were not. They were not at all and they were
not penalized at all by losing today without him in
(01:16:37):
not knowing his status, and so there's there's the balance
of that. This is how the brackett will appear when
you go to the office tomorrow morning, or when you
get that email tomorrow morning from the guy at your
office or a girl that runs the pool OPPERA left
corner South region, bottom left corner East region. So they're
going to meet in one national semifinal. The winner of
(01:16:59):
the South will face the winner of the East region.
That means on the other side the right side Midwest
Region will face the West Region. So if the seeds held,
you would have Alabama against Purdue and one final four
matchup Houston against Kansas in the other That's how the
bracket is shaped out. We know that they were as
as the brackets were being unveiled. We didn't make that clear,
(01:17:23):
but that's Alabama and the number one overall seed would
then face in the South region. If all seating held,
would face Purdue, the fourth overall seed, but number one
in the East. Houston got the two seed and Kansas
got the three seeds. By the way I know these
are Caviaart problems, But do you have any issue with Kansas,
with by far the most quad one wins, the best
wins according to committee, not getting that number one overall
(01:17:44):
seed after losing in their conference tournament. I thought, I'll
put it this way, if anybody outside of Alabama was
to get the number one overall seed, I thought it
was Kansas. Sure, sure, so that would be so then
I guess by that I would say, I think that
they would have a have a gripe, But the only
gripe I think ends up being what color uniforms are
(01:18:07):
you gonna plut you know, gonna wear? Like if Kansas,
say Kansas was was the number two seed overall, they're
still on the right side of the bracket, while Alabamas
on the other side of the bracket. You're not gonna
have Kansas and Texas in the same region as a
two seed. So UCLA would end up moving with Kansas
to that spot because you don't want to schools from
the same conference being the top two seeds in a region.
(01:18:29):
So I don't think much would change in Kansas's argument
for that. But I do think that if we are,
you know, really fine tuning it without making any difference
I think Kansas should have been the number two seed.
I actually thought I thought it should have been Kansas.
Excuse me, Alabama one, Kansas two produced three, Houston four. Yeah. No,
(01:18:50):
I don't actually disagree with it. And like I said,
I thought the bracket was pretty clean. I don't think
there's really a ton to argue about, but it's just
an interesting talking point. And obviously, you know, and this
is what I don't think Kansas fans are that mad,
but I do think they would have, in a perfect world,
like to have that number one overall seed, like to
have gone through Kansas City. But now it sets up,
(01:19:11):
you know, a pathway through the west and it'll be
interesting to see. So he's Aaron's Torres. I'm Dan Buyer.
This is a Fox Sports Sunday special edition, A bracket.

(01:19:33):
It's also brewing up to be an interesting day and
an interesting next couple of days. In the National Football League.
A big trade today involving the Rams, Jalen Ramsey, he
goes to the Miami Dolphins. Plus Aaron Rodgers has spoken.
So while we are focusing on the bracket, we will
also get to what is happening in the verge of
NFL free agency coming up in just a bit and again,
(01:19:54):

from now, something that you will definitely want to be

I'm cool with this bracket. Now as you dive a
(01:20:36):
little bit more into it, Aaron Torres, there's a lot
he did too. Hate everything We are broadcasting live from

com the way tire buying should be. It's funny because
we were talking throughout the week knowing that this show
(01:20:59):
was coming up, and our good buddy Emmett on Twitter
mentioned this earlier. It is the one year anniversary, not
to the dates, but to this day because it happened
on a Sunday of Tom Brady unretiring. It happened about
an hour and twenty minutes after the brackets started to
be released, so it was like seven twenty Eastern time,
I think, and we had to push the bracket aside
(01:21:22):
and talk about Tom Brady's return to the NFL. Do
you think Aaron Rodgers decision will come at some point
in the next fifty eight minutes or so? I don't.
That audio with Brandon Marshall broke during my show last night,
and it was just so vintage Aaron Rodgers is you know?
I could tell you, but I'm not going to. I
(01:21:45):
could have just not done this interview, but I did it.
Aaron Rodgers loved the spotlight. He just does. He just
loves being And I don't know, you know, I know
free agency starts on Wednesday and all that, so I
don't have a firm it has to be by this date.
I think we're going to get through the next hour
without any earth shattering NFL news breaking. I will say
(01:22:07):
this that I am looking through all of this that
there are going to be some interesting matchups um that
we didn't necessarily realize at first. But now as we
start to look at this bracket, UM will come to
the forefront. And obviously it's all change once the ball
tips on on Thursday, all of this talk goes for
(01:22:27):
not But let's talk about it while we can. Aaron,
There's there's something that the Committee does, and it is
that they've done it for years and it is a
way to maximize especially in their UM in their TV window.
They will put a marquee region together. Sure brand names.
(01:22:49):
You want to make sure that you get as much
brand equity as you can. Okay, this is and and
I actually think that there there are two regions that
have this. When you actually look at where we are
with college basketball brands, not college football brands. College basketball brands.
(01:23:11):
So I don't want Alabama and I I don't want Texas
to take offense to this. But if you look at
the East region, this is of the of the of
the East region. These are the brand names that you
have perdue Duke, Kentucky, Michigan State, Um, Marquette, but not
but even leave Marquete out or Tennessee, you've got Duphis
(01:23:33):
in there too, Memphis in there as well. So there's
there's some brand equity in that region. And then you
go into the West region and you see Kansas, you
see Yukon, you see Gonzaga, you see Ucla, like there
are some they like to put together regions where you
really have brands and and it's not meant to be disrespectful,
(01:23:57):
but if the tournament were to hold with all rits,
you would have Kansas, Yukon, Ucla, Gonzaga in one Sweet
sixteen showdown in Las Vegas at Madison Square Garden, you'd
have Purdue Tennessee or in this scenario, maybe Duke advances
of the five seed and you could have the possibility
of Kentucky advancing against the Michigan State or a Marquette.
(01:24:18):
Like there's there's marquee brands there, but Baylor gets a
three seed, Xavier gets a three seed. In the other brackets,
there's not a lot of weight carried with those, even
though Baylor won the national championship two years ago. Aaron
just doesn't, you know, carry the gravity that some of
these other brand names do. And without the brand equity
of North Carolina and the bracket, or of Michigan and
(01:24:40):
the bracket, I think you see the East and the
West regions as brackets that were really loaded up. I
know they say that it don't do this, but you
also have to remember you have a television partner, and
while you can't predict who's going to win, and we've
seen that in matchups, you do want to ensure that
you at least have some compelling te vision In the
second week of the NCAA tournament, the West feels like
(01:25:04):
the one. If it holds out, that's the one that
Jim Nance is. You know, it's gonna be Sunday afternoon.
I think that's a Friday Sunday regional, but that's the
one that is going to be uh, Jim Nance. You know,
Grant Hill, Bill Raftery, like Kansas, UCLA Yukon Gonzaga, as
you said, in the top four in that region. Um,
that just feels like the one. And then also, like
(01:25:26):
you said, with the East, I mean, I think obviously
the idea being Kentucky. Yeah, that's I was just gonna say,
if Kentucky and Duke make it to the Sweet sixteen,
they would have to be at higher seeded you know,
better seeded teams than what they are. But you put
that region in and who knows what those I just
I wonder, I just wonder if all of a sudden
(01:25:47):
that shifts, if if Duke and Kentucky have success, Yeah,
that ends up being the power. That's if Duke and
Kentucky make a Sweet both make a Sweet sixteen, that's
where Jim nance and the league will be. So that
makes sense. And also that one would be at Madison
Square guard in the world's most famous arena. It would
have an extra special feel to it. But yeah, it's
(01:26:08):
you know, and I'm with you, isn't I don't think
they go into it saying we have to stack one bracket.
The ironic part, by the way, Dan, the fact that
it's the West this year. I find that very interesting
because remember every year what's the complaint about Gonzaga. They
play nobody in the regular season, which isn't true, but
their conference isn't bad. They get the number one seed
in the West, and the West is always the easiest bracket,
(01:26:29):
and the anti Gonzaga crowd that's always the argument. They
only get a number one seed because they play in
a lousy conference, and then they always have the easiest
draw because they're the number one seed out West. So
it's interesting that I don't think there's any debate among
people that I'm seeing on social media that no college
basketball that you look at this region where TCU at
one point was a top ten team before they had injuries,
(01:26:50):
they're the number six seed in this region. You know,
Arkansas was a preseason top ten team. They're the eight
seed in this region. Admittedly they're not playing well. I'm
not saying they deserved a better see, but you look
at this seems to be like the region that everybody
is in agreement on. It's just going to be a
battle every single game when these teams take the floor.
When you start to look at possible second round matchups,
(01:27:11):
and that's heck, I almost feel guilty even going to
the second round erin in trying to guess considering the upsets,
and what we've thought is, oh, that could be a
great matchup on Saturday or Sunday, and then those matchups
end up going by the wayside. But when you start
looking at these second round matchups, you said it as
soon as the bracket came out, as soon as the
(01:27:32):
burnt Orange of Texas came up in the Midwest region,
knowing that Texas A and M was just a game away.
I think that is that is marquee number one on
possible second round matchups that are that are really really appetizing,
Like even no disrespect the case state, but if they
would face a Kentucky matchup, you're not Maybe it's not
(01:27:54):
like it's a duke Kentucky and it don't hate me
for the brand names and you're killing the messenger, but
it's just different. But with that that rivalry, with that hatred,
I think that could be the most biggest marquise second
round game. If the Seeds hold, there's zero doubt. And
I will say one thing, um Texas A and M.
I see a lot of people complaining about their seating
finished second. Finishing second in the SEC regular season runner
(01:28:16):
up in the SEC tournament. It is worth noting, you know,
the committee is supposed to take into consideration your entire
body of work. This was a Texas A and M
team that at one point was six and five this season.
As I said earlier an hour two, had had a
neutral site loss to a Murray State team which wasn't good,
had a loss at home to Wafford which wasn't good,
had a loss on a neutral site to Colorado by
(01:28:37):
twenty eight points. And so I just bring it up
to say that seating is probably right, even though A
and M fans don't want to hear it. But that's
an intriguing second round matchup. I'll say this, this one
we have on the screen right here in the East.
I think a Duke Tennessee potential second round matchup would
be very intriguing as well. Overall, I know I'm beating
(01:28:57):
a dead horse when I say this, the bracket feels
pretty good to me. Dan. Now, and here's the other thing,
and I want to ask you this because he mentioned
something in passing during the break, is how sometimes the
seating in bracketology that we that we watch on our
computers over the course of a season is off relative
to the committee. Is that a committee being wrong thing?
(01:29:20):
Or is that maybe just a bracketologist and that nobody's
doing a bad job as a bracketologist, but they just
don't have the information and the intel that the committee
does in terms of what they're looking for all that stuff. Like, like,
I just find it interesting. But somebody saying like Texas
A and m was misseedd as a as a seven?
Is that like is are they is the committee wrong
(01:29:42):
or were the bracketologist wrong this whole time? I'll answer
it this way. And as someone who loves college basketball
and loves having this, I think bracketology is a farce.
I agree like it is because I'm not guessing the
formula or have an idea of the formula. I am
(01:30:03):
guessing what you and ten other people are going to think. Sure,
and that is impossible to do. I don't know what's
in your head, errand you don't know what's in my head,
and to guess what you're going to do is impossible.
Now we have all of this data that we that
we think that we have, it's just maybe not processed
the way that we think. And so I don't like
Texas A and M. Again, as you said they were.
(01:30:26):
The bracketologists were off two or three seed lines when
it came to Texas A and M. And it's not
meant to be the bracketologist doesn't know what's going on.
I just I think of I think that it's just
it's so difficult to guess what eleven other people are thinking.
And if you ever have you ever tried to do
(01:30:46):
a mock draft for an NFL draft and see how
you did afterwards? Of course, yeah, yeah, And if you
get eight out of thirty two, you're a freaking genius.
That's what happens here. But on a scale that's twice
as large, with many more dominoes. It seems like if
you move a team in a certain spot down on
(01:31:10):
one place, oh yeah, you, then we may have four
or five other scenarios play out, which then, may you know,
trickle down to a school being well I need to
be you know, we need to be here. Like think
about think about what the committee had to deal with
with the just with the Big Ten, Like thank goodness
there wasn't another good team in the Big Ten, because
now you're trying to figure out how do we put
(01:31:30):
all these teams between the seven and ten seeds like
this is, this is, And I'm not harping on an
aeron because I'm a big ten guy. I just find
it so intriguing when you're trying to set up a
bracket that you've got Michigan State, Northwestern Penn State. You know,
in that seven ten matchup in different seeds. The eight
nine matchup, you've got Maryland, Iowa, and Illinois all bundled
(01:31:54):
up in that same spot. So how do you put it? Well,
if Maryland, Iowa, and Illinois are getting eight or nine seeds, well,
then produce got to be the number one seed in
the region that they don't they don't have, you know,
because you're not gonna want to face a big ten
team in the second round. So then how does that
affect Penn State? You know, it was Penn State maybe
an eight seed, but they can't be in an eight
nine because you have those other That's what I think
(01:32:17):
ends up falling. So when we get to bracketology and
we look at all these things, so why I think
it's a farce, But I don't want it to go away.
I'm not saying Joe Lenardi's a fraud, and I'm not
saying Jerry Palm's a fraud. It's just impossible to guess
what somebody else, especially a group of eleven other people
are thinking. And that's why it is. I mean, we
tried to do the top two, just the top two
(01:32:37):
seed lines, and I think we hit on all eight
of them. But they were wrong regions, they were wrong
you know, sites of and so that's what's so difficult
look at something as simple as I think we both
thought coming into this, well, it's a it's a foregone conclusion.
Duke's going to be in the Greensboro region. They're going
to Orlando, you know, as a five seed. Yeah, you know,
every bracketology again, I hate to keep bringing up my
(01:32:59):
alma mater, but every bracketology that I have seen in
the last two three months had Yukon in a region
that ended the East region that ended at Madison Square Garden.
They're starting in Albany, that's geographically advantageous, but they will
go through the West region now that ends in Las Vegas.
And so I'm with you. By the way, this is
not a criticism of bracketologists at all. And it's like
(01:33:19):
anything that you project, you know that when you first
brought that up. The first thing I thought of was
mock drafts in the NBA and NFL. You gotta do
them because people want to see them. But to expect
Joe Lonardi or whoever to go one hundred, you know,
to go sixty out of sixty eight is like asking
mel Kiper to pick all thirty two NFL first round.
It's just not realistic. And so you know, I've actually
(01:33:41):
seen I remember last year when everybody thought Tennessee should
have been a two seed instead of a three seed,
like Joelnardi was the one that was getting all the
anger from the Tennessee fan base. And it's like Joe
Lonardi's not on the committee. So I'm with you is
that the bracketologists do the best with the information that's
given to them. And it's just it's a very very
interesting deal to see this bracket unfolded, I will say,
(01:34:04):
And I was looking at I was looking at Leonard's
and I was looking at Jerry Palms, who they thought
we were in and not in, and for their for
their most recent bracket updates, and Lunardi doesn't do his
up to His last update is the one this morning,
and Jerry Palm on on CBS had one um that
(01:34:24):
was that was almost a live update, Aaron. But they
missed out on one team being in. And so the
point that I'm gonna make is is if a bracketologist
gets sixty three out of the sixty eight, the stink sure,
you need to get sixty six or sixty seven. And
that's where and and Palm had Rutgers in, but Arizona
State out, Arizona State got in, Rutgers was out. Lunardi
(01:34:47):
ended up missing on Nevada. He had Nevada a little
further out of the bubble than most Um, and he
had Rutgers a lot further in than Jerry Palm did.
But otherwise they ended up, you know, getting the other
sixty seven correct. That's the only spot that they missed
in terms of really who is in the tournament. And
that's really all who they grade on. You know. They
(01:35:09):
don't say like we nailed this, you know, and their
matchups changed throughout the year. But they got sixty seven
out of the sixty eight correct. Now, I think they
do a good job. And again it's a it's a
it's it's actually a very tough thing to do the
way that they're asked to do it because you have
constant results going on throughout the days and the weeks
and the months leading up to the tournament. And as
you said, if if Saint Mary's loses on a Thursday
(01:35:32):
night at eleven o'clock Eastern time, uh, and they were
a five seed, now they go to a sixth seed,
you got to reshuffle up the whole bracket and then
again go through all those parameters that you discussed throughout
the show of conferences and geographic this and religious that,
and so it's a thankless job. Again, I think the brackets,
the bracketologist people have did pretty well. And here's here's
(01:35:54):
here's the other thing with that, I'll say this. Their
job isn't to get the bracket correct. Their job is
to get you interested in the brackets. That is what
they do. And in that aspect it is one hundred
percent accomplished because it does how many how many Hoops
fans you know, Northwestern fans now in the dance you
(01:36:17):
know this year, how many times for Northwestern fans checking
out bracketology as opposed to a year ago? This yearns
tons more like it's that's what it's there for. It's
not there to be you know, exactly right, because that's
darn near impossible. That's the farcical part about it. If
they're just you're not going to be able to guess
what eleven you know other people think and and but
(01:36:37):
the real value is them getting you interested in the bracket.
I've got I've got some other things to point out
for the bracket, especially in a five twelve four thirteen matchup.
You want to talk about opposites attracting. We could have
some craziness happening in one region. He's Eron Torres. I'm
Dan Buyer. It's our selection Special Selection Sunday Special on
(01:36:58):
Fox Sports Radio. It's all coming up next year on FSR,
Fox Sports Sunday, Fox Sports Radio Special Edition. Is the
Field of sixty eight. It's been released. He's Aaron Torres,
I'm Dan Bayer. We are live from the tirect dot
Com studios. And again going through this bracket. I mentioned
(01:37:18):
there's this four thirteen, five twelve matchup, and what we
like to do is when we see a bracket, you
look at it from far away. Who you can go
to the final four is gonna win it all. Then
you start to get a little closer and you start looking, okay,
what can we get, you know, on the Saturday and
Sunday of the first weekend, what could we get in
second round matchups? And there are intriguing second round matchups,
(01:37:40):
one of which, again this is if the Seeds hold.
But the reason I'm bringing this up is because I'm
not sure if the Seeds will hold because of what
we have at stake. Virginia is the four seed in
the South Region. They play Thursday in Orlando against Furman.
If Virginia wins, they the winner of number five San
(01:38:02):
Diego State, who takes on Charleston in the five to
twelve game. Obviously, also in Orlando on Thursday, you would
have a four to five Virginia against San Diego State.
That game may end up twenty one to nineteen. I mean,
the points will be at an absolute premium if that
four or five matchup happens. However, and I'm I'm not
(01:38:24):
putting the target on San Diego States back, and I'm
also not doing it to Virginia. But we know when
people pick upsets in their bracket errand they look at
the five twelve matchup, which is historically always provided at
least one, sometimes two or even three upsets in the
tournament of the twelve beating the five. The reason I
bring that scenario up is not only for just the
joke of having Virginia in San Diego State playing in
(01:38:47):
such a low scoring affair on the second round, but
it's also of who their opponents are. And so when
you try to find common threads in matchups, and you know,
joked about the Bruce Pearl game with Iowa taking on Auburn.
Bruce Pearl was once an assistant at Iowa. Now Bruce
Pearl has had many many stops, you know, in his
(01:39:08):
college days, whether it be at Tennessee, heck, whether it
be at Milwaukee point being is okay, you can kind
of side, you know, tie that back to that scenario.
What is interesting here in this four, five, five, twelve,
and four thirteen matchup. Furman eighth in the NC double
An scoring this past season, averaging eighty two points per
game going up against Virginia. So we use the phrase
(01:39:31):
a lot something's got to give, but something does have
to give, and sometimes when you're when you're playing a
team like Virginia, it goes one or two ways. You
are so frustrated because you can't score and it ends
up falling apart and Virginia ends up running away, or
because you can score, you can hang around a little
bit longer and be in that game, and maybe if
(01:39:53):
Virginia's forced to score, they could be in trouble. But
it's the same thing with the five twelve match up
with San Diego State taking on Charleston, who is fourteenth
in the country in scoring this past year. So you've
got not only could you have a crazy defensive matchup
four five Virginia taking on San Diego State. If those
other schools end up pulling upsets, you could have a
(01:40:15):
crazy high scoring affair. If it was a twelve against
the thirteen. Yeah, Virginia giving up sixty point three points
per game tied for fifth fewiston college basketball, Sandia giving
up sixty three point eight points per game, So it'd
be very want would be very interesting either way. But
I think the point you bring up on Virginia is
very interesting as well because of the fact that you
(01:40:38):
know this has been the problem with them for years,
is if they fall down, That's what happened against UNBC
in the iconic game where they lost as a one seed.
They fell down, and you can't make up that ground
the way that Virginia plays. So this is the fun
part of the tournament. It's not only you know, small
school that you've never heard of versus big school that
everybody knows. It's also the stylistic elements of it. And
(01:40:59):
you know that a lot of people use this time
of your styles make fights. But you know, Virginia with
the right draw might be in the Alienator or a
Final four, but with the wrong draw might be losing
the first round. And that applies not only to them.
I'm just using them as a hypothetical, but a lot
of different teams. There are a bunch of different tie
ins that we will get to again. The bracket is
set in the eight o'clock Eastern time on Fox Sports
(01:41:21):
Radio dot Com is when our Fox Sports Radio a
Million Dollar Bracket Challenge goes live. What we're gonna do,
We're gonna continue to look at this bracket. We're gonna
jump over to the news desk Monsey Millanias it's gonna
give us the latest of what is happening on this Sunday.
A lot happening with the bracket, a lot happening outside
of it, and the oscars tonight, of course. Right now,
(01:41:41):
we don't care about that. All I care about is
can I fill out this bracket? Can I win a
million dollars? You cannot? Okay, you cannot. I cannot partake.
You can compete against listeners by filling out your bracket
at Fox Sports Radio dot com. Okay, and then everybody
can see your picks and look at your picks and say,
hey I beat Monsey or hey Monty did better than
(01:42:01):
I do. But I can't win that. I'm not. I
cannot win. That's really what I care about. Like I would,
I would ring it as well, so then you wouldn't
leave us. That's what I would do, because you know,
you win a million dollars, you put it there two weeks.
Notice now you're right, You're right. The listener beats Monsey.
Do they get to do according to Monsey for one week?
Gerald from Vermont? That would be funny. I would like that. Actually, yeah,
(01:42:25):
so much going on in college basketball, but you guys
are handling that. So I'm gonna let you continue that
for sure, as you're going. But we could move on
to the NBA. It was actually a really close game
and just officially ended between the Calves and the Hornets.
The Calves they held on. They came out on top,
but it was really really close, one fourteen to one. OA.
Darius Garland led all scores with twenty eight points. Earlier today,
(01:42:47):
I mentioned that the Nets beat the Nuggets in Denver,
which was just crazy because Nicola Yokis still had a
triple double thirty five points, twenty rebounds, and eleven assists.
Right now going on to seventy six, Ers have a
lead against the Wizard sixty five fifty four. Halfway to
the third quarter. The Pelicans and the Trailblazers just got going.
It's late in the first quarter, so the Pelicans have
the early lead thirty one to sixteen. The thunder are
(01:43:09):
playing without Shay Giljis Alexander as they take on the
Spurs and they're up sixteen to fifteen late in the
first quarter. Still to come, the Knicks are gonna take
on the Lakers. They'll be doing that without Jaylen Brunson.
It is official left but soreness, so he's gonna be
out now. Later today, the World Baseball Classic between Mexico
and USA will take place on FS one. It's all
(01:43:31):
set to start at ten pm. Eastern time, and there
was NFL news. Yes, the Rams have traded all Pro
cornerback Jalen Ramsey to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for
a twenty twenty three third round pick and Ti n
Hunter Long. This trade's not gonna be processed until Wednesday,
when the league year actually begins. The NFL Network reported
earlier today that several teams are now in talks with
free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Junior after his workout
(01:43:54):
that he held on Friday in Arizona. They also reported
that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are expected to pursue Eaker
Mayfield as a potential starting quarterback option in free agency. Dunt,
duntd on, back to you guys. Instead of Tampa Bay,
they could be the Baker Nears. That's what hits. Yes,
from from one to another, I was waiting for the
dad joke. That is the dad joke of the day. Hello,
(01:44:17):
it's pretty good, Baker Nears. I just don't know how
you think of episode quickly just that's you know, once
it became a dad they just flow like the you know,
the running rivers close are great. Colorado Chuka dumb. The
other day I thought that was Jason. Oh yeah, I
thought mine was ball to less or so, Yes, that's
(01:44:40):
what I was talking about. The Ravens all right, Moncy,
enjoy the uh not watching the Oscar You know it
all right? Thanks so much. Get her on Twitter at
Moncy Melanios. Get Aaron on Twitter at Aaron Underscore Toras.
You can find me on Twitter at Dan Byer. On
Foxes we are live from the Tirek dot Com studios.
You did not want to see Rick Pettino against your
(01:45:03):
alma mater. I know I'm talking to you as as
a Yukon a lum, but you even tweeted as much
that you felt bad for whatever school was going to
have to face Iona in the first round of the
tournament and it ends up being your Yukon Huskies. Yeah.
I was watching prepping for my show last night on
Saturday nights ten to two am Eastern time. Now, I
(01:45:23):
was watching Iona, you know, take care of business. They
have a Hall of Fame coach who probably won't be
there very much longer. And I just said, imagine working
all year long, getting the campus in June, laying out
your dreams, having a successful season, having a great year,
actually to get a three, four five seed and then
you draw Rick Petino in round one. Well that's what
(01:45:44):
exactly what happened with Yukon, as they have the Iona Gaels,
winners of the MAC twenty seven and seven, seventeen and
three overall, and a couple of pretty good wins in
the out of conference, you know, most notably Saint Louis
out of the Atlantic ten, Saint Bonaventure out of the
Atlantic ten. So that's one that I definitely have my hand.
I love. You know, the NTABAA tournament sets its sights
(01:46:06):
up in advance. Years in advance, Um, we know who
next year's first and second around sites are, so you
can't necessarily adjust on the fly, but you try to
spread it out as I don't know if it's as
much as you can, Aaron. It's just the fact of
you know, there there were times in the past where
Syracuse Yukon, um like even you know, any team from
(01:46:28):
the city or New York would be a top top
squad that would get a seating and be like, all right, good,
they're going to uh, they're going to Albany, you know,
like not far of a of a trip. But with
this year's field, it was kind of difficult to fill
that Albany spot for a little while, you know, and
so like so Yukon like as bad it is for
(01:46:48):
them to face Iona um and Iona will just have
to you know, drive up to Albany from from the
city or just outside of the city. It was difficult
to fill that spot. At least Yukon is a little
bit closer to home than as opposed to being put elsewhere.
Because there wasn't a top seed that said, or two
top seeds that ended up taking up the Albany style well,
(01:47:11):
and that was from the Yukon perspective. A lot of
people thought, Okay, Yukon might not have to get on
a plane to go to a final four because they
would have gone through the East region, start in Albany,
go to New York City. But I'll also say this
goes back to some of the bracketology conversation we had
a minute ago. Is again, this isn't a criticism of
Joe Leonardi or Jerry Palm or Mike Decorsi who does
it for us at Fox. But I never understood why
(01:47:31):
Yukon as a three, four or five seed had to
be in the East region and why you would want
to give them an advantage and put whoever gets the
one seed there. In this case, it happens to be Purdue.
But you know why, you would want to give a
disadvantage to the team that gets to one seeds. So
you know, Ukon's got a tough opener. But every you know, listen,
I've seen a lot of people say this, and I
(01:47:52):
think it's right. Everybody's got a tough draw. These are
sixty eight teams that all deserve to be here, and
you gotta go out and win the games that are
in front of you. Here's what's also interesting is that
look in the in the West region, where your Yukon
Huskies are as well, but it's in the bottom half
of that bracket. Gonzaga ends up taking on Grand Canyon
in the first round in a game that's in Denver,
(01:48:15):
and then they would face the winner of TCU or
Arizona State Nevada winner. And you want to talk about
being gassed. You've got the highest scoring team in the
country in Gonzaga and now you're playing at fifty two
one hundred and eighty feet of altitude. Curious to see
on how much of an advantage that could be for Gonzaga.
(01:48:37):
When you talk about sites in that situation, in how
it plays out, you've got Arizona State in Nevada also
coming off of the shorter trip of They're going to
be playing in Dayton on Wednesday, and then we'll have
to fly and face Gonzaga or Grand Canyon. Well just
(01:48:58):
not that I'm sharpeing Gonzaga in. They could very well
be upset, but their style of play um could make
a team gassed. You know, Grand Canyon played late Sun
Saturday night, in late last night to clinch their birth.
Could be an opportunity for Gonzaga there to take advantage
of the altitude. And then you know, who knows what
happens in that'll you know six eleven matchup. Well, it's
funny because we obviously prior to your show here on Sunday,
(01:49:20):
Steve Hartman is in and Steve Hartman's a big UCLA guy,
and in passing I don't even remember what the context was,
he referenced the iconic UCLA Gonzaga Sweet sixteen game that
ended with Adam Morrison crying not to make fun of
Adam Morrison, I just bring it up to say that
could happen again. This year in Las Vegas, as Ucla
is the two seed there, Gonzaga is the three seed.
Maybe this would be the Drew Timmy crying game. I
(01:49:41):
don't know, you know, but I'm just saying that history
could repeat itself there as well. I will say this
and now in in digesting this bracket, I don't think it.
I'll tell you what UCLA should think. They're lucky stars,
yes for what they have. Well, sorry, go please please please,
this is this is again and there's we know they're
(01:50:02):
down Jalen Clark. They lost Bona to the shoulder injury.
You don't know how that's gonna play out. Um, you
lost to Arizona twice out of three times, so they
get the edge. But Arizona gets moved out not only
see the South region, but in the same bracket as
the number one overall seat of Alabama. Ucla goes to
Sacramento and then if they win, gets to go to
(01:50:23):
Las Vegas. For I mean, when you're talking about the
lack of travel of you know, in just that aspect erin,
I mean, they're gonna they're gonna, you know, I think
now that we change clocks as Las Vegas on our
time Now is that Arizona that that doesn't believe in Yes, yes,
but okay, so so they so they so Las Vegas
(01:50:46):
flow you know, goes with US so on the west coast,
so here they don't have to change time zones and
they're literally their fans can drive to these locations. I
know it's a little bit of a hike for Sacramento,
but still like you drive like UCLA. Hey, I think
got the best deal out of any of the top
eight seeds in how this played out, considering not only
(01:51:06):
their region, but also on what they have going against
them in the lack of injuries or with the injuries
with some of their players. Well, and one thing that
through the years, that's what I was gonna say when
you start talking about Usela and I rudely cut you off,
but is that every year everybody wants every time we
do a segment or you do a radio interview, everybody
wants the well who's the upset? Like who can And
(01:51:29):
it's like, I need to see a bracket first, right,
And so if you just talk out UCLA an hour
before the bracket came out, down to keep player maybe
down a second, keep player don't have a great resume.
That sounds like a team that could get upset in
the opening weekend. But now, as you said, the geography
works to their advantage. They have unc Asheville in round one.
In round two, they're going to have a Northwestern team. Yes,
(01:51:51):
Northwestern finished second in the Big Ten, but it's their
second ever NCAA Tournament appearance, so if they were to win,
you think they're just happy to pick up the first
ever NCAA Tournament win in school history. Grant excuse me.
Boise State in the other side is a good team,
but you know whatever, It's not like UCLA can't beat him,
So you know Ucla. If you had asked most people, hey,
give me a team on the top two seed line
(01:52:12):
that you could see not making it out of the
first weekend, Ucla probably would have been a popular pick
with that question. But then again, you see how the
bracket actually plays out. You see who they have to play,
you see where they have to play them. It's why
I love the conversation around college basketball and brackets in
the lead up to Selection Sunday, But I'm always hesitant
to say anything definitive without seeing that bracket first. He's
(01:52:35):
Aaron Torres. I'm Dan Bayer. I want to take this

He's here and Torres, I'm Dan Bayer. A brackets special
as the field of sixty eight has been unveiled and
I seas this Aaron, and I said, we're not going
(01:54:42):
to give you our final four picks. And the reason
why I said that is for a very very good reason.
I feel that if I were to give my final
four picks right now, Number one, I want the flexibility
to change. Sure, but I ACTU really don't think you care.
If you're driving around listening to us, people aren't pulling
(01:55:04):
over across America or pen and paper. I don't. I
don't think what I think happens, and I could be wrong,
but I know that college basketball junkies are listening to
us right now and they want their opportunity to really
sit back and evaluate the bracket. And nothing pained me
(01:55:26):
more than prior to doing the show. And I would
have to hear Seth Davis give his Elite eight before
the sixty eight team field was announced, Like you're stealing
my Cinderella's, Like you've already announced one of one team,
you've gotten the Elite eight. I don't like that. I
don't know. I want it like I know that you're
gonna have the same picks as you know a lot
(01:55:46):
of people, and your Cinderella may not be as special
as you think it. Is. But that is why I
would not put it together because I don't want I
don't want to prevent anybody from having their Final four
and say, you know what, that's exactly what Dan had,
That's exactly what Aaron had on the Fox Sports Sunday special.
Maybe on Wednesday, you and I are going to be together.
(01:56:06):
We're in for Caveno and Rich on Wednesday. We can
give our final four ZM. But I want people to
have enough time to digest their brackets and to be
able to have fun with it and not just take
what I say and feel like they should take what
I said or should completely ignore what I said. So
that's why I'm not giving you a final four at
this point. Okay, No, I'm I'm I'm I'm just not
(01:56:28):
giving you a final four because I haven't had enough
time to really think about these brackets. Yeah, I was
gonna say, you were surprised when I said I'm not
giving you a final four and I'm like, oh, you
have one. You're like, no, I don't want to. I
want to. I want to dive into it. But that
that is the reason why. But I will give you
teams and these are these are these are schools that
I had marked prior to the bracket, not knowing where
they would go, and it ended up just kind of
(01:56:49):
falling into place. I'm gonna give you a couple of
just a couple of team names, schools that I think
maybe we could we could hear make some make some noise.
You're ready, let's do Okay. I mentioned the Furman scenario earlier.
I think that's legit. I think like Furman can give
Virginia all they can handle. And when you're in a
(01:57:10):
game and you're fighting the score, I'd rather have the
team that I feel can actually score more. I think
Furman could give Virginia a run. It's gonna be one
of the early games that we found out because game
times are coming out. That's gonna be a twelve forty
Eastern time tip on Thursday afternoon, so it's gonna be
Thursday morning start for most of the other time zones
(01:57:32):
in the States, so you could get an upset early
on in that one. So I like Furman in the
South Region. I like Texas A and M as a
team that can make some noise, especially maybe not as
much of a shocker considering the man it to the
SEC Final but being that seven seed in the Midwest region,
I think that there's something there for the Eggies. You
just wonder if they used a lot of the fuel
(01:57:53):
in the tank for this SEC tournament run. And I
know they may face your Yukon Huskies in the second round.
With Saint Mary's, I targeted Saint Mary's in the West
Region as a team that could make a push and
maybe make the Sweet sixteen against Kansas. A couple of
things here. One the Texas A and m thing is
interesting because, first off, I feel like Dan, there's always
(01:58:15):
a team that plays really well in their conference tournament
that gets overvalued. I think Texas could be that team
this year. I know they finished in second in the
regular season, but I just could see the scenario where
they're out in Weekend one, losing to their biggest rivals.
A couple other notes I think are interesting. One, first
of all, we talked about Marcus Sasser. Jeff Goodman from
Stadium said that he expects him to play North Chadowmere
(01:58:37):
the best big man for Miami limped off of their
ACC tournament game, so keep an eye on that. They
open against Drake on Friday. Kentucky, by the way, playing
Providence seven ten pm Eastern on Friday. Providence is best player.
Bryce Hopkins is a former Kentucky Wildcat. I believe the
stat is first former Kentucky player to face Kentucky in
the NCAA tournament, although I need to confirm that. And
(01:59:00):
then the one thing that I saw as soon as
the bracket came out, Creton a NC State is going
to be a really fun game on Friday. I could
see whoever wins that game giving Baylor all sorts of
fits in round one. That's, by the way, if Baylor
gets passed a UC Santa Barber team that finished this
season with twenty seven wins going into the ncattorn We
also spoke on how Arizona State in Nevada will be
(01:59:22):
playing in the first four, Mississippi State and Pitt also
in the first four. It should be noted that the
last game maybe they maybe the committee heard Mike Bray,
but the final game on Friday will be the winner
of the Arizona State and Nevada game going up against
TCU in Denver, so so maybe they took some consideration,
but again, could have a little extra day of rest
(01:59:44):
from the Tuesday playing game that you have with Mississippi
State and pitt They'll be playing in the early session
on Friday. This was a lot of fun. I love
this yearly tradition. Can't wait for the games to start
Tuesday and we'll be back at at Thursday. Here. Thank
you Tom Brady for not on retiring for a second
you're in a row with and actually thanks Aaron Rodgers
for not making your decision yet. For Aaron Torres, I'm
(02:00:05):
Dan Buyer. This is Fox Sports Sunday
