Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Week eighteen is here wrapping up the regular season, and
it may not feel like it, but still a lot
to play for. You just wouldn't know it if you
were the Kansas City Chiefs. They've got the number one
seed locked up, but if they beat Denver today, that
would be a great help to both the Miami Dolphins
and the Cincinnati Bengals. We're keeping our eye on that game.
One of five games here in this late window as
(00:25):
the regular season is close to coming to a close.
It obviously wraps up tonight with the Vikings and Lions
playing for home field advantage and the number one overall
seed in the NFC. But Denver right now leads Kansas City.
As you heard Monsey say, fourteen to nothing in that
Dolphins game. Is they need a win if they want
to have any hopes of the postseason needing a Broncos loss.
They are right now in the red zone, knocking on
(00:46):
the door, trying to extend their lead against the Jets
right now three to nothing as the Dolphins are inside
the ten yard line. Again. It's one of five games
here on this late window. We are broadcasting love from
the Tierreck dot Com Studios. Tirec dot Com will help
you get there. Unmatched selection, fast free shipping, free road
has a protection you know, over ten thousand recommended installers.
Tirec dot com the way tire buying should be. Now,
(01:08):
this may be over before it began, Carrie, because the
Denver Broncos coming in as a significant favorite. Chiefs resting,
Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelsey, Chris Jones, Asaia Pacheco, everybody is
out and Denver's jumped out to this fourteen to nothing lead,
and right now, definitely with the inside track for the
number seven seed entering the week now with a fourteen
point lead, it's almost a foregone conclusion right now.
Speaker 3 (01:30):
Yeah, it's gonna be tough for any outside other possibilities
happened happening right now. The way this game is progressing
doesn't look like the Chiefs came to really compete today
at all, and making sure that they're putting all their
eggs in the basket of being healthy and ready to
go once the playoffs start. So, I mean, the only
cool thing right now about this game is the orange
Quest uniforms from Denver.
Speaker 2 (01:51):
They do look good, they look really good. And the
end zones are fully orange, so that looks great as
well with the D and the bronco and doing is
his snorting if you will. It's one of my favorite
helmets that you've got, one of my favorite logos throughout
the NFL. But Denver looking good in the uniforms and
on the field and for that final playoff spot. A
(02:13):
lot to get to in this late window. And while
the forty nine Ers and Cardinals are playing right now,
there's not much to do. There isn't anything to do
playoff wise. There's obviously seating for draft picks and whatnot
that can come into play. These other four games all
do have for something at stake. We just told you
(02:33):
what Denver's got at stake. Dolphins need to win to
keep their hopeset live. Seahawks don't have anything to play
for against the Rams, but the Rams now do have
something to play for. It's just the fact of the
matter that they may not be playing for it. If
the Rams don't win today, they will end up dropping
to the four seed as the NFC West champion and
end up having to play either the Vikings or Lions
(02:55):
next week. Are you surprised at all that the Rams
just punted without Matthew Stafford, Nonnakua, no Cooper Cup today,
and that they're willing to fall to the four seed
and face Detroit or Minnesota. Are you surprised that LA's
just kind of packing it in today.
Speaker 3 (03:09):
I am surprised. I thought they would come out and
win this game. I think a lot of times you
get teams get lost in the health part of it,
which is absolutely big. But we've seen I think we
saw in college football, right the conversation around rest and rust.
Speaker 2 (03:26):
The teams I.
Speaker 3 (03:26):
Had to buys in the playoffs in college came out
and all four of those teams lost, and so like, yes,
you want to be healthy, and that's part of winning
any sport, but the rust thing gets big. And when
you also take into account the competition, the competition you're
going to be playing, you want to be firing on
all cylinders. So I'm surprised they didn't play at least
a quarter or a half of something.
Speaker 2 (03:46):
It isn't lost, but the Seahawks do lead seven to
three in that game. Seattle playing everybody right now, Gino
Smith has got a bunch of incentives to end up
going after But it's also not the only game this
late window where seating is of importance because the Chargers
and Raiders are in a matchup and the Chargers have
(04:06):
an opportunity to actually get the top wild card in
the AFC if they knock off the Raiders. It's a
three to three ball game right now. To me, that
is that is just as much of a world of
difference than what you would get with the Rams and
trying to play the Vikings or Lions. If you end
(04:28):
up losing, you'd obviously rather play Washington in that sort
of scenario, I would believe in the NFC. But to
have the Chargers try to avoid a trip to Baltimore, yes,
and go to Houston that has everything to play for.
If I'm Jim Harbaugh and the Chargers today.
Speaker 3 (04:47):
One hundred percent, and a lot of times in these
last games of the season, you.
Speaker 2 (04:53):
Really don't know what's going to happen.
Speaker 3 (04:55):
You don't know the makeup of the teams, you don't
know how important certain things are. A lot of time
when you're trying to get incentives and stuff like that,
which we've been talking about earlier in the show, a
lot of things are forced, a lot of things aren't
like the natural flow of the game. Some people are
already checked out, ready ready to go to Kancun and
get their vacation started. Some people are locked in and,
like I said, trying to prove that they can play
(05:16):
this game still. So there's so many different things that
are happening in this last game, and so to actually
pick who's going to win in these situations when people
are resting and people are playing for certain things, it's
just you can't do it. So you just got to
watch and see on Sunday what happens. Dolphins ended up
settling for a field goal in their red zone trip
with the Jets, so it's six nothing right now as
they start the second quarter. Miami kicking off to New
(05:39):
York as we speak. Let me ask you, if you're
in the shoes of the Baltimore Ravens and talking about
this Chargers matchup, in this Steelers situation, who would you
rather play if you're Baltimore. Not John Harbaugh because his
brother Jim is on the other shode line. But if
you're Baltimore as an organization, do you want Pittsburgh coming
to town? Would you rather have a Chargers team that
(06:01):
you beat recently? You know a couple of weeks ago
in Los Angeles. Who do you want to see coming
to Baltimore is a first dround matchup next week in
wildcard week? Oh, we want the Steelers really defensive for sure.
Speaker 2 (06:14):
Excuse me?
Speaker 3 (06:15):
Divisional right, divisional rival. They just beat them a couple
of weeks ago. The Steelers had had their number for
a while, and right now looking at that Steelers team,
that Steelers team is not a good team, and I
would want to put it to the division rival and
get through it. It was a situation like that with me
and No.
Speaker 2 (06:33):
Six one.
Speaker 3 (06:34):
We finally beat New England throughout the year. I'm sure
New England was watching us, and we got that last
playoff spot and we ended up having to go back
to them in playoffs in the division round in two
thousand and six and they beat us.
Speaker 2 (06:46):
They got us back.
Speaker 3 (06:47):
But you always like to stick it to a divisional opponent,
especially when that team has had success against you during
the regular season. So it'd be a great story, a
great win, a great opportunity to bury a team that
needs to be buried.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
So know that. And I'm aware that Pittsburgh just hasn't
seemingly been the same Pittsburgh team over the last month. Yeah,
and maybe that ends up trumping all But it would
be crazy for me to think that the Ravens are like, yeah,
we'd rather have We'd rather have the Steelers in this
sort of situation. I know, I think John Harball would.
I don't think Jim. John Arba wants to face Jim,
(07:20):
but I think that's what the Ravens are facing. So
we will keep you updated with everything that's going on.
As we are broadcasting live from the tierraq dot com
studios tierrec dot com. We'll help you get there. An
unmatched selection, fast free shipping, free road as a protection
earn over ten thousand recommended installers tireraq dot com the
way tire buying should be. It wrapped up earlier today,
but the Tampa Bay Buccaneers survived. They are the four
(07:42):
seed winners of the NFC South. The Falcons ended up
going into overtime and then ended up losing to the
Carolina Panthers. A huge day for Bryce Young, but the
story the story the Atlanta Falcons them not getting it done.
But even if they did get it done, it wouldn't
have mattered because Tampa ended up a winning today in
that game against the New Orleans Saints. So now Tampa
(08:03):
is in and as we talked about their situation with
the Rams, they're now watching the Seahawks game and are
probably Seahawks fans. I'd much rather face Washington if I'm Tampa,
then I would Detroit or Minnesota. So there's something to
play for in that one. But that was settled earlier
today with Tampa ending up winning the division, green Bay loses,
(08:25):
Washington wins against the Cowboys, that allows green Bay to
fall a spot, and now we have a green Bay
Philadelphia wildcard game. That's the only matchup set right now
in these playoffs.
Speaker 3 (08:37):
Yeah, and that would be an interesting game, but now
we got to wait and see about green Bay's health.
You thought drug Love go out with with an elbow
injury and Romeo dot with it Watson. I think Watson
Watson went out with the non contact injury. So I mean,
I would have loved to see that game full of strength,
but I don't know what we're gonna get. And uh yeah,
Philly Man, I would have been a great game.
Speaker 2 (08:59):
It's the the scenario with Jordan Love. This is the balance.
So when we talk about the Rams, to kind of
come full circle, here, the Rams have the division wrapped up.
Seattle could actually pull even with them with the record,
but because of strength of schedule and where strength of victory,
the Rams are gonna win the division no matter what
this outcome would have been. That was determined actually last
(09:22):
week with the outcomes that we had in week seventeen.
But this is the determination that Matthew Stafford, Poga Nakula,
Cooper Cup aren't playing for the Rams. Green Bay kind
of had the same sort of deal where they're playing
the Bears today. They're playing a game that really doesn't
matter to them, Yeah, but it could keep them in
(09:43):
that sixth spot. I think you'd rather go to Tampa
or LA than go to Philadelphia. Green Bay ends up
playing Jordan Love, ends up playing in him in that game,
dinged up early accounts, elbow injury, maybe a funny bone
sort of scenario. As you said, we don't as to
cerrely know the full bill of health on Jordan Love
moving forward. But the point is is that's the risk
(10:05):
that Matthew Stafford and specifically Sean McVay did not want
to take in a game against Seattle today where you
hit a helmet, maybe a break of thumb on a
follow through or do something like that. Jordan Love ended
up having that happened to him today. It allowed the
package to replace him with Malik Willis. But still now
you're going into that wild card game with maybe a
(10:26):
dinged up quarterback.
Speaker 3 (10:27):
And think about the team they're about to face in
that seventh seed that will be playing the Philadelphia Eagles,
who rested their star running back and rested their stars
today even though they had nothing to quote unquote play for.
Speaker 2 (10:38):
You know, he sat down.
Speaker 3 (10:39):
They rested them and got them ready for next week.
You have to go out and play a game. Like
you said, it was matters in seeding, but you're already
locked as a playoff playoff participant. So you know, these
teams and how they decide to do things is always
very critical to their success. And now we're in a
situation where they're gonna have to face an Eagles team
(10:59):
that has been really well.
Speaker 2 (11:00):
The Seahawks have just scored again against the Rams. It
is now fourteen to three. Dk Metcalf catching a touchdown
pass from Gino Smith. Gino Smith had a whole bunch
of incentives for this week. This is now a second
touchdown pass He'll end up cashing in on a bunch
of those incentives. This helps twenty yard touchdown pass to
DK Metcalf extra point is good. So now it's fourteen
(11:23):
to three Seattle. So Tampa getting that much closer to
the three seed with the Rams getting that much closer
to falling to the number four seed. That's a interesting
one with the I was curious on how much Seattle
would be motivated today considering that their division hopes were washed.
But again, maybe there's some pride. There is incentives. They
(11:44):
could tie for the division lead via record, but it
wouldn't be recognized. You don't recognize co division champions. It's
not what they do in the National Football League like
they're doing college sports, but they do not do that here.
So a lot happening in Week eighteen, including the huge
matchup tonight between the Vikings and Lions, which will really
settle everything. But we'll keep you up to date of
(12:05):
what is happening right now. Denver on top of Kansas
City fourteen to nothing. Denver with a win would wrap
up the final playoff berth that is available in these playoffs,
knocking the Dolphins and Bengals out of contention. Speaking of
the Dolphins, they're up six to nothing right now on
the Jets early in the second quarter. Denver, by the way,
is the football again and they're in Chiefs territory with
(12:25):
ten minutes to go until halftime. We told you the
Seahawks have extended their lead against the Rams fourteen to
three in the second quarter, while the Chargers right now
trail the Raiders. So the Raiders getting into the end zone.
It's a ten to three Las Vegas lead, and the
Cardinals lead San Francisco by a score of ten to three.
We'll also get into what's happening with the NFL Draft.
Some records today, whole bunch to get to as we
(12:47):
say farewell to the twenty twenty four NFL regular season.
He's carry old Tampak Kerry twenty five ro olds. You
can find me at dan Byer on Fox. Can also
find me on Blue Sky at dan Byer coming up next.

the NFL Draft. We'll tell you next year on Fox

Fox Sports Red Zone Radio in a week eighteen. He's
Carry Rhads. I'm Dan Beyer. The Rams who are playing
for seeding as NFC West champions, trying to hold on
to the possibility of being a three seed. Just scored
against the Seahawks. Jimmy Garoppolo to Tyler Higbe. It's one
of five games going on in this late window. There's
also breaking news in this late window. Let's head to
(13:37):
the news desk with Mancy.
Speaker 4 (13:38):
Belanos breaking news from Fox Sports.
Speaker 5 (13:43):
This justinfell is.
Speaker 6 (13:44):
According to multiple reports, the New England Patriots have fired
head coach Gerrotmeo after one year. They won today, they
lost the number one pick end of the season four
and thirteen and have fired Gjerrodmeo.
Speaker 2 (13:55):
Maybe the win was the final nail in the coffin,
taking the Patriots ALBA first overall pick in beating Buffalo today.
He is Carrie Rhodes. I'm Dan Byer will have more
on that. Denver's also extended their lead to twenty one
nothing Monsey over Kansas City, mont who will have a
score update coming up at the bottom of the hour.
There was a big, big game today in Tampa when
I'm sure that the rest of the NFC South was
(14:17):
looking at, especially those in Atlanta. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers
get a huge win over the New Orleans Saints and
punch their ticket to the postseason. Let's focus on that.
Speaker 1 (14:26):
Now it's time for the NFL on Fox Focus.
Speaker 2 (14:33):
Tom Rinaldi was on the sideline watching the Tampa Bay
Buccaneers win another NFC Cell title beating the Saints today,
twenty seven to nineteen, Tom, Happy New Year. I'm sure
there's emotions everywhere on both sides of things, but let's
start with the Buccaneers, who came out of this game
a bit sluggish today, but we're able to put it
on at the end and get that victory. Why was
(14:56):
Tampa maybe a little slow out of the gates today,
too much to play for? Or why did it take
Tampa a little while?
Speaker 7 (15:03):
Hey guys, always good to be with you. I think
it's a combination of things. But let's start with giving
the Saint's credit.
Speaker 2 (15:09):
They played.
Speaker 7 (15:10):
Spencer Rattler played an excellent first half of football, only
three possessions for Tampa that entire first half, a time
of possession was dominated by New Orleans. But give Tampa credit.
And I think if you could point to one turning
point in this game, it just scramble early in the
third quarter by Baker Mayfield who got hit as he
(15:31):
was sliding, got up, got in the face of the defender,
and that ignited his team as he so often does.
Speaker 2 (15:39):
Tom Yeah, I saw that.
Speaker 3 (15:40):
I saw Baker use his legs a lot today, which
is a big factor that a lot of people don't
realize that he has in his arsenal, but it was.
It was big time from him. I want to talk
about Mike Evans obviously. I mean, you know, there was
a lot riding on this season for him as far
as you know, being next in line to Jerry Rice,
to keep that streak alive of eleven straight one yard
(16:00):
seasons and just a response to this team.
Speaker 2 (16:03):
Let's talk about Mike Evans and what he's bought to
that organization.
Speaker 7 (16:06):
Well, talk about a story book ending the last play
of the game, meeting five yards risking obviously some the
twists and turns that happened guys in the last couple
of minutes, about whether Evans it was a complete subtext
to of course, campus prime mission, which was to win
(16:26):
the game and get into the playoffs. But they got
to eat their cake too by getting into Evans a
three million dollars incentive based day. Through a combination of
incentives reached, but of course the most important being history
equal only the second wide receiver in history with eleven
one thousand yard seasons. I mean, Mike Evans is remarkable
(16:48):
that everything we know that his story is remarkable. He's
been a consummate pro. But to see his reaction, his
teammates reactions, guys, I'm sure he saw that they stormed
the field formed him so good.
Speaker 2 (17:01):
It was an amazing scene. They were more excited for him,
I think than even clinching the NFC South and getting
into the playoffs. It was it was nuts tom Ornaldi
joining us. So the Buccaneers top the Saints today twenty
seven or nineteen to win another NFC South title, their
fourth in a row in that division. Can the Buccaneers
do damage? Last year we saw make it to the
division around they beat Philadelphia and then played the Lion stuff.
(17:23):
How far can this Tampa team go this year?
Speaker 1 (17:25):
Oh?
Speaker 7 (17:26):
I think we know the short answer, guys, as far
as Baker Mayfield can take them. And absolutely they're going
to be a tough out. This is the best season
of Mayfield's career. You talked about using his legs a lot,
How about this. He used them more effectively and more
total yardage in terms of scrambles not design runs than
any other season in his career. And time and time again,
(17:48):
when they needed a huge conversion, when they needed a spark,
it was Mayfield's legs. Despite two all world throws that
he had in the second half yep, back to back
to McCollum which extended on a third down and then
a touchdown pass right after that on a scramble. If
(18:09):
he's going to play at that level, guys, I don't
know a lot of defenses that want to face him.
Speaker 3 (18:13):
It's crazy because when you watch Tampa Bay, obviously we
know about Mike Evans and know about Baker Mayfield, but
a lot of people aren't talking about that next in
line receiver who's emervous the last couple of weeks, and
that's Jalen McMillan. Let's talk about his contribution to this
team because he's He's even this thing out a little
bit where the teams just can't roll over Evans.
Speaker 7 (18:33):
And I think everyone wondered, right guys, when we saw
God wouldn't go down with the terrible injury. How can
this team respond? How can they rally? They've rallied in
two ways. They've rallied with a rookie receiver really rising up,
but also through Bucky Irving. Yes, that's just how he
has added to this team's identity Offensively. The yards per carry,
(18:58):
the yards per touch numbers are out standing. And it's
more than that, it's the attitude that he runs with.
I think the chief attitude officer of the NFL is
Josh Jacobs. But Bucky Irving runs with bad intent and
you saw that again today. Even when he's not gaining
a lot of yards, he's a physical runner and you
feel like you can break it at any point.
Speaker 2 (19:19):
I know you're at an airport, Tom, but before we
let you go, we do have to talk about the
saint side of things. Such an emotional week in New
Orleans with the happenings down at Bourbon Street. Was there
was there any any carryover that with this team? How
did they enter this game and really what was kind
of a meaningless game for them, not much, you know,
nothing to play for. How did the events of earlier
this week affect this team today.
Speaker 7 (19:41):
Guys, I think it inspired this group, and I think
Darren Rizzy should get a very serious look at being
the head coach of this group. Having talked to players
other coaches throughout the week, on the same side, they
showered him with praise. So the changes he's made, the
fact that he held this team to the otherans commitment
and passion. They've played with great effort. You saw that
(20:03):
in the first half, ultimately not enough against the superior team.
This is a team that played Spencer Ratler in his
sixth career starts. They're looking for his first win. No Ojave,
no Kamara. When you look at how depleted they were
and the fact that they competed that hard, I believe
that's a reflection of veteran leadership and head coaching. And
(20:28):
I think we both know, all of us know what
the Saints represent to that region, in that city. They
started their entire week with silence and then reflection from
the players about how this has touched them. We've seen
Saints ownership donate a half a million dollars, then matched
(20:48):
by the NFL for total of a million. Cam Jordan
donating to the Fund for Victims' families. I think it
galvanized this team who desperately wanted to win to give
something back to the city.
Speaker 2 (21:03):
They give it there all today. It came up short,
but still quite the effort from New Orleans. Tom safe travels,
thanks so much for the time, and yeah, get ready
for the postseason. Should be a dandy.
Speaker 7 (21:13):
We can't wait and we can't wait to get back
to New Orleans for the Super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (21:17):
Got it home with super Bowl fifty nine. Tom Ronaldi,
Thanks so much, Tom. He is Carrie Rhodes. I'm Dan Byer.
We have the breaking news Girod Mayo out as the
Patriots head coach after one season. Carrie weighs in on
that and what could be next. But let's go to
the news desk. Lotzi Bolanos, who broke the news, also
has some news with these five games going on right
now and a historic day in New York, plus some
(21:41):
other stuff happening. Lotsy what's going on?
Speaker 6 (21:43):
I know, I don't even know where to begin because
there is a lot going on, But let's start in
Denver because there was a little bit of hot potato
that went on.
Speaker 2 (21:50):
Nix with a playfake now rolls to He's right bow
looks at the end zone, throws a ball behind the intend.
Speaker 1 (21:55):
Receiver, bounced up into the air, bounced again, and then
part by Devon Zale touchdown.
Speaker 8 (22:02):
Younger.
Speaker 1 (22:06):
That home is bounce not once, but twice.
Speaker 5 (22:10):
I might even say it bounds three times. Honestly, it
was a potato for sure. You just heard it all
on the Broncos radio network. They're all over the Chiefs.
Speaker 6 (22:18):
Twenty one zero is the score with two minutes to
go in the first half. The Raiders are beating the
Chargers ten to six with about six minutes to go
in the first half.
Speaker 5 (22:25):
Seahawks beating the Rams fourteen.
Speaker 6 (22:26):
Ten late in the second quarter, and yes, history four
Aaron Rodgers. He just threw his five hundredth touchdown pass.
And the Jets are beating the Dolphins seven six halfway
through the second quarter. The Cardinals are beating the forty
nine Ers ten three, also halfway through the second quarter.
The news that just broke not long ago was that
the Patriots, who defeated the Bills earlier today twenty three
(22:47):
to sixteen, fired their head coach Gerrodmeo after one year.
They did lose the number one pick. Beating the Bills
really they controlled their own destiny and they ended up
beating the Bills. Joe Milton, though, who came in to
replace Drake, he may very early on in the game
for New England. On his first career drive, he was
six of six for fifty one yards and a rushing touchdown.
(23:07):
He ended twenty two of twenty nine two hundred and
forty one yards, one touchdown and one rushing touchdown for
Joe Milton the Colts.
Speaker 5 (23:13):
They beat the Jags twenty six, twenty three and ot.
Speaker 6 (23:15):
The Texans outscored the Titans twenty three to fourteen.
Speaker 5 (23:18):
The Eagles had a twenty to thirteen win over the.
Speaker 6 (23:21):
Giants, while the Bears walked it off with the fifty
one yard field goal to defeat the Packers twenty two
to twenty one. So what we do know is that
the number seven seed Packers will be visiting the number
two seed Eagles in the wildcard round. We also know
that the Green Bay Packers lost Christian Watson, not in
a good way. He was taking the locker room after
a non contact injury never came back. Jordan Love also
(23:43):
took a hard hit and was taken out, but Matt
Lafleur said that he was held out out of precaution.
Speaker 5 (23:47):
So he is expected to be fine.
Speaker 6 (23:49):
The Commanders topped the Cowboys twenty three to nineteen. Trey
Lance in his first regular season start since Week two
of twenty twenty two. He ended twenty of thirty four
for two hundred and forty four yards in this one.
The Panthers had a forty four to thirty eight win
over the Falcons in ot and the Buccaneers have won
the NFC South for.
Speaker 5 (24:08):
A fourth straight year.
Speaker 6 (24:09):
They had to come back and beat the Saints twenty
seven to nineteen.
Speaker 5 (24:12):
Mike Evans nine catches eighty nine yards.
Speaker 6 (24:14):
He's the only player to reach one thousand receiving yards
in his first eleven seasons. But yes, tis Jerry Rice
for the most But way to go, Mike Evans and
the order of the NFL draft top three picks Titans,
Brown's Giants.
Speaker 2 (24:31):
Back to you, guys, we'll get into all of that.
As Moncey said, the Patriots dropping from what was number
one at the start of the week, and if they
would have lost today they would have been number one
down to number four. Do you know who the Costokos
brothers are? MONCEI, I don't expect you to. I think
it's a little before your time.
Speaker 5 (24:47):
Is It's like Conseco brothers.
Speaker 7 (24:48):
I know that.
Speaker 2 (24:49):
No, No, I burst it's before his time as well.
Chris Purfett probably Costocko's brothers. Does that ring a bell
to you at all? No, it's tickling the brain. Dane
and Carrie not even taking my brain at all. So
they I don't know if they are actual brothers or
is their company. They would make these themed sports posters
(25:13):
from the nineteen basically in the nineteen eighties and the
Land of Boz Christian Occoy, the Nigeria Nightmare was, you know,
with the Freddy Krueger like all dressed up very very cool,
like they're very cool. Eric Dickerson, Roboback, I'm going to
show you some of these. Do any of these look familiar? Carrys?
I know it doesn't translate. On Radio Chicago Vice he
(25:34):
had Jim McMahon and Walter Payton looking like Crockett and
Tubs on Miamivice. John Elway dressed up as a cowboy
as the Rifleman. All these themed posters. The uh the
Vele touchdown for the Broncos. He would be Vley parking
like he would be a parking attendant. I know that
was a long story for a bad joke, but when
(25:56):
she played the highlight, I just see him as the vallet.
But it would be Vele Parking if you wanted to
make his Costocko Brothers poster.
Speaker 3 (26:04):
No, no, I didn't know that Miami Wecelin was really
cool looking like Don Johnson over there. Yeah, but the
you know the crazy part about all these things, and
we talk about bad teams in the NFL, they don't
even know how to lose, right, Like, there's no way
New England should win that game and lose that top spot.
And like you said, maybe that contributed to it. I
(26:25):
don't think so, but yeah, like there are situations where
you can't get out your way from losing from winning
when you're a bad team.
Speaker 2 (26:33):
Your first knee jerk reaction when we found out about
drawd Mao's dismissal after one season, by the way, surprising,
not shocking. Adam Kaplan when we asked him about it
last week an animal join us coming up next hour
on Fox Sports Radio a little less than an hour
from now, said yeah, there's rumblings, there's some stuff going on.
(26:55):
Albert Breer, friend of the network covers the NFL. The
MMQB Albert's been around for you know, a decade or
two was set on Boston Radio this week. This is
a Patriots organization that is operating and operating in two
thousand and five that they aren't up to date. You
(27:16):
walk into the building and it's still what they did
twenty years ago. And so Gerrod Mayo taking over from
Bill Belichick and whatever problems with the dynamics that are
there and what is happening. It doesn't seem like this
team improved at all throughout the season, and you don't
want to waste Drake may So to have the one
(27:36):
season be won and done was maybe not shocking but surprising.
But the first thing you said was his possible replacement.
Speaker 3 (27:46):
Yes, Mike Rabel, I mean Mike Rabel just interviewed with
the Jets yesterday. The Jets want them want him, you know,
really badly obviously for good reason. He's a really good coach,
and it's it's given me throwback Bill Belichick vibes here.
No Belichick signed with the Jets for one day before
(28:07):
going back to New England. Well going to New England,
and so it gives me that vibe. I mean, obviously
he knows the system, he knows the city. Well, well,
you know, we'll be a beloved higher by that fan
base as well.
Speaker 2 (28:21):
So it gives me that vibe.
Speaker 3 (28:23):
And you know, like when you see these guys, Gerald
Mayo went into a situation where he was not gonna
win anyway. That team has no talent. You get a quarter,
you get a quote. I take that back. They got
some talented players, but they just don't have enough skilled
players on that team to be successful. And so for
him to be fired after one year, it seems rough.
But yeah, when you look at it now with all
(28:44):
these high profile candidates that can come in and replace him,
you know, I could see why it's happening.
Speaker 2 (28:50):
Here's I'm where I'm torn on Mayo, and I don't
know the whole scenario of how it played out. Right,
If he goes in there and tries to Playkate to everybody,
he's not being who he is. We talked about that
and so that that's difficult. But if you're rubbing people
the wrong way and it's not working that way, then
you can run yourself out of a job in a
(29:12):
four win season. I don't know what the expectations people
really had in New England. But I don't think it
was a playoff Berth this season, So there's this split
on it. But you mentioning Vrabel, which, by the way,
I would fully believe that Vrabel knew that he would
be a possibility for the New England Patriots job prior
to yesterday. So you're connection with the Jets of maybe
(29:34):
sticking it to the Jets in some form or fashion
I think is legit. But also if he doesn't interview
for the Jets, does that signal a red flag? Does
that for the for the twenty four hours that you
have of being like, wait a second, Rabel turned down
an interview with the Jets. Is that Rabel being mister
New England Patriot? Is that him commenting on Woody Johnson?
(29:55):
Or could it open the door of like Rabel's already
got something agreed to somewhere else. And I think while
they would love to do the first two, I think
they'd love to stick it to the Jets. And I
think that they would love to have that reputation to
Woody Johnson that this was the way to maybe keep
this secret under wraps, to be like, okay, I'll interview
for the Jets. Hey, I interviewed for the Jets the
day before Gerd Mayo was fired. I had no idea
(30:18):
that this is kind of an almost cover up. Two.
If it leads to Rabel's eventual taking over of the Patriot,
I think it can be that.
Speaker 3 (30:28):
But can also, you know, add some fuel to New
England's you know, even if it was an imminent higher
or one that day thought was going to happen eventually,
the fact that he's snipping around a division opponent, a
team that you hate. You go in and do that interview,
and you know, you never know, you can get swept
up your feet in the interview. I mean, I when
you go to a college on a recruiting trip, you
(30:48):
may not think you going to that school, but they
lay it out for you really heavy, and you find
yourself not leaving. That's that's a real thing. So I
think the quicker you can get that higher done and
make it happen. And if you're a Patriot and you
have to gohead and do it.
Speaker 2 (31:03):
Bo Nicks is seventeen of seventeen so far in the
first half for one hundred and eighty three yards and
three touchdowns. And just ended up having a play where
it appears he may have lateraled it, but they are
ruining it a forward pass. It would have had the
Broncos down in the red zone, down inside the red
(31:23):
zone for Kansas City. But they're going to bring this
play back with a minute to go in the first half,
so the Broncos will take over at they will have
the football at the Chiefs thirty seven yard They call
that a four pass. They're calling it a forward pass
according to my screen with the stats. I know they're
not back from commercial yet on TV, but my stats
say that they've reversed the call and are calling it
an illegal forward pass. So it will be enforced at
(31:46):
the Kansas City thirty two yard line where it happened,
and then they'll back it up five yards Aaron Rodgers
touchdown pass five hundred. So Montzi told you extra point
was good. Jets up seven to six on the Dolphins. Again.
Miami needs to they have any hope, But they are
maybe looking at that Denver scoreboard and seeing right now
that Kansas City isn't putting up much of a fight,
(32:06):
and so you wonder on how much of the Dolphins
effort will wane or not. Could be a bit of
a litmus test to Mike McDaniel's team to see how
they fight back in this game knowing that they're likely
not headed to the postseason. And you think that this
outcome for the Denver Broncos is a sigh of relief
for the rest of the AFC because it keeps one
Joe cool at home for the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (32:27):
That's right, Yeah, I think this is I mean for
anybody in the AFC. I don't care who you are,
any of those teams that's in it. If Cincinnati was
to get in it, they can outscore all those teams
on a given day, and so that's always dangerous. The
way Joe Burrows playing down the stretch, but they've wanted
to last four to give themselves a chance. Looks like
(32:47):
a little too late, but yeah, you definitely do not
want to see them. And if Denver wins, I mean
that's not to say Denver's going to be an easy out.
They've been playing decent football as well, and anybody can win,
but you do not want to see Joe Burrow right.
Speaker 2 (32:59):
Nowads the All Pro and starter since day one. I'm
dan Byer hit him up back Erriy twenty five Roads.
You can find me at Dan Byer on Fox as
we are live from the tirec dot Com studios. You
can find Manzi at Moncy Belanos on x. I just
want to quick run this down. A'll have more on
girod Mayo's dismissal coming up at the top of the hour,
and again Adam Kaplan will join us in about forty
(33:20):
five minutes or so. Adam Schefter on his Week eighteen
preview does the who's safe and who's not safe for
a job. It's a tradition that the late Chris Mortensen
would always do. As we enter what tomorrow is likely
Black Monday for NFL head coaches, and what Adam Schefter
had was that the Patriots were leaning to move on
(33:42):
from girod Mayo. That has now happened. As for the Raiders,
Antonio Pierce leaning safe, Brian Callahan of the Titans leaning safe,
Shane Steiken of the Colts leaning safe, Doug Peterson would
be out in Jacksonville well, Brian Dabele would be leaning safe,
and Kevin Stefanski and Cleveland Mike mcca Arthy in Dallas
would both be safe. Wow, that's that's what. So that's
(34:06):
where Schefter had it before entering week eighteen for these coaches. Wow,
So it would be five openings from the three that
we already have plus the two. But right now we've
got four because we can add the Patriots to the list.
Bonnicks went on quite a scamper, but it's being called
back because of a penalty would have had them inside
the ten yard line again. But now with thirty two
seconds left, Broncos they're facing a first and twenty from
(34:28):
their own forty seven yard line, but up twenty one
to nothing on Kansas City. The Jets, who have become
really good at losing, now winning. Right now, it's the
Jacks seven. The six sorry carry Seahawks auded a field goal,
so they're up on the Rams seventeen to ten in
that contest right now, with a minute to go until halftime.
The Cardinals and Niners tied up at ten apiece. Chargers
(34:50):
added a field goal. Again. They're seating is at stake
here in the wild card. To win would make them
the five seed in the AFC. A loss drops them
down to number six. They trail the Raiders right now
by a score of ten to six. With a minute
fourteen to go until halftime. It's an incentive based week eighteen.
We'll take a look at some of the crazy numbers
and who cashed in and who didn't. Next here on
Fox Sports Red Zone Radio.
Speaker 1 (35:12):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio. Shotgun for Rogers,
pres haul in motion.
Speaker 4 (35:17):
He's back to throw steps up of the pocket side
arms one over the.
Speaker 8 (35:21):
Mental cut touchdown Tyler Cockland and that is career touchdown
pass number five.
Speaker 1 (35:29):
Hundred for Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 8 (35:32):
Tyler Cockland the recipient, and the Jets saw a point
after away.
Speaker 4 (35:36):
From taking the lead back to Dan Byer and Carry Rhodes.
Speaker 2 (35:41):
It is Week eighteen of the NFL season. Find Carry
at Carrie twenty five roads. You can find me on
Exit dan Byer on Fox. Also on Blue Sky at
dan Byer one of four point three in the Jets
radio network. With that highlight the first of two touchdown
passes by Aaron Rodgers on the day. The second one
just went to Alan Lazard and the Jets then say hey,
let's go for two. It's a fifteen to six Jets
(36:03):
lead over the Dolphins, a minute to go until halftime.
As the Jets were successful on that conversion, So that
would be good news for the Cincinnati Bengals, who need
a Dolphins loss today to have any hope of making
the postseason. The bad news Denver's up on the Chiefs
twenty four to nothing at halftime. Bonnicks has finally thrown
it in completion, but he was eighteen of nineteen for
(36:24):
two hundred and fifteen yards and three touchdowns in the
first half. All Broncos twenty four to nothing. A win
by Denver puts them in the postseason. The Chargers, right now,
playing four playoff seting have a first in goal at
the Raiders eight yard line in a ten to nine
game nearing halftime, Justin Herbert still in. If the Chargers
(36:45):
win this game, they'll be the five seed in the AFC.
But it's the Raiders right now with a ten to
nine lead and the Seahawks and Rams have gone to half.
It is seventeen to thirteen Seattle. Joshua Carty just kicking
a fifty eight yard field goal for the Rams to
put them within four. They've won the NFC West, but
they could be the third seed in the NFC if
(37:06):
they beat Seattle today. If they don't, they'll drop the
four in Tampa will be the three seed, and then
the other game in this late window the Cardinals the
forty nine ers seventeen to ten carry. A lot of
guys are getting paid today, not just with game checks
but also because of incentives. And instead of the funky
fantasy football day that it could be, we're gonna instead
take a look at some of the cash that could
be handed out incentive wise. And that's why Ryan Berschinger's.
Speaker 1 (37:29):
Here Fantasy hits and missing all.
Speaker 2 (37:34):
Right, who hit the jackpot when it came to their incentives?
Ryan Berschinger, Yes, that's right.
Speaker 9 (37:38):
Let's let this serve as a PSA for anyone playing
fantasy football. If you are playing in a championship game
in fantasy football this week, quit that league in the offseason.
Do not play meaningful fantasy football on the last week
of the season. Let's look at some hits and misses
here in terms of guys who have hit or missed
on incentives. A couple interesting ones from yesterday. Derek Henry
(37:59):
got a hit by he needed a touchdown for five
hundred thousand dollars he got that. Mike Kasiki needed three
yards for one hundred and twenty five thousand. He got
it on the second play of the game a couple misses.
Though Justice Hill needed eight catches, he got zero in
order tohe two hundred fifty.
Speaker 2 (38:14):
But he didn't have a sixty yard touchdown run to
knocking onto the Gillette League thanks to Yeah yeah about
it there weeks ago.
Speaker 9 (38:22):
And let's look at some some others so big hits
from today. Starting off, of course, the biggest one was
Mike Evans. Today, the Bucks made a concerted effort to
make sure he got over the one thousand yards for
the season on the final play of the game. We're
gonna dive more into that play later, but yes, on
that last play of the game, he got eight yards
when he needed five. But coming into the game, he
(38:44):
he was also in a situation where he could make
three million dollars on top of his twenty twenty five
salary by recording five catches in eighty five yards. He
ended up with nine for eighty nine. So not only
was he trying to keep that streak of eleven straight
seasons with one thousand yards intact, but he also made
three million dollars for it.
Speaker 2 (39:01):
So that's a good day.
Speaker 9 (39:02):
Yeah, that is why the team made sure it happened
for him. A couple we have a really interesting misses
from the earlier games as well. First off, Tony Pollard,
he needed eighty three rushing yards to hit two undred
fifty thousand dollars. The Titans tried. He had twenty two
carries for sixty two yards, twenty one yards short. Zach
(39:23):
Ertz needed nine ninety yards for two hundred fifty thousand
and two receiving touchdowns for another two fifty the end
of five forty four and one. So nothing there for
zach Ertz. A big miss here, A big miss. Marquez
Valdez Scantling needed another touchdown for two hundred and fifty thousand.
Speaker 2 (39:40):
Dollars oh.
Speaker 9 (39:43):
One, and it was called back and he never got
a touchdown again in that game, so he missed on that.
Speaker 2 (39:49):
He also had one where he got one foot down
but not the other one late in the game against and.
Speaker 9 (39:54):
Just keeping an eye on we'll dive into these games later.
But Courtland Sutton already got his maxed out is two
million dollar bonus by he now is eighty nine receiving
yards on the day he needed eighty two coming into today.
Speaker 2 (40:06):
All right, there's some incentive info. He's carry Roads. I'm
Dan Byer. We're getting more info on why Gerrod Mayo
is out in New England. That's next.
Speaker 1 (40:16):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.
Speaker 2 (40:19):
A lot happening in week eighteen and in this late
window five games going on, four of which will have
some sort of impact on the playoff field that will
start play for the Lombardi Trophy next week. Welcome in
as we're broadcasting line from the Tirec dot Com studios.
Tirec dot com will help you get there at unmatch
selection fast free shipping, free road has a protection in
(40:40):
and over ten thousand recommended installers. Tirec dot com the
way tire buying should be. Usually it's Black Monday in
the NFL when coaches are fired. Now it's becoming a
bit earlier. We've seen three coaches be dismissed during the
regular season and now the fourth dismissal coming at the
end of the Patriots Bill's game, a game that New
(41:01):
England won, dropping them out of the number one overall selection.
And I don't think that was the reason why Gerrod
Mayo lost his job, But Darrod Mayo did lose his
job today, fired as the Patriots head coach.
Speaker 3 (41:12):
So on Dawn Sunday, we had a fire in today
with Gerrod Mayo. Yes, that's what we're saying, right, Yeah,
Usually you get a little time to at least process
your loss and talk to your team and go about
your night. Now, at least sleep decently at night if
you get a chance to. But they announced the firing
right away, and that all that tells me is they
(41:33):
already have to replacement in place.
Speaker 2 (41:35):
Yes, so this decision to move on from Girod Mayo
was already made prior to today's game. And to Carrie's
point about the replacement, he immediately said that it sure
looks like Mike Vrabel, And I think there are a
lot of reasons to suspect that, obviously being a former player.
But I would also think Carrie, honestly, with the way
(41:56):
that Robert Craft is, Robert Craft was so loyal to
Tom Brady that for Robert Craft to do this to
a former Patriot player, it likely would have had to
have been done with another former Patriots player taking over. Yeah. Yeah,
like I said, yeah, it's one of those things. I
agree with you.
Speaker 3 (42:14):
He's very close knit with his people. In a lot
of situations right, whether it be NFL radio, an actor, like,
there's a form of bond that you want to work
with people that you know, you like, somebody you trust
and you've seen up close and personal, and that's what
that's what that would be for Robert Craft for sure.
Speaker 2 (42:35):
If if Mike Vrabel isn't available, and Mike Vrabel has
been available all season long, do you think that this
move is still made with them going four and thirteen
and having the season that they made. I don't think so.
Speaker 3 (42:49):
And the reason I say that is because you're following
the legend, even the legend struggled on the way out. Yeah,
so the talent wasn't there. You bring somebody you know,
a player, somebody you trust, somebody you care about, I
would believe, and you would give him a couple of
months to do a job and turn that team around
when the legend couldn't do it.
Speaker 2 (43:09):
It just doesn't make any sense. I also think that
there's got to be a lot of unpacking, a lot
of unwinding that you would do just from the Belichick era,
and that whoever was going to take over would need
more than a season to do. So I'm not saying
that Gerrod Mayo was unfairly removed as head coach. It
just did not meet what my expectations of what that
(43:30):
position would be, especially Carrie, considering that Gerrod Mayo was
thought to be the heir apparent for a while in
New England, it was not a surprise when he was
tabbed as the team's head coach. This had actually had
been talked about for years and then throughout last season
when the Patriots were having the awful season that they had,
and you're wondering, is Bill Belichick going to be fired? Here?
(43:51):
Is Bill going to not continue there? Girod Mayo's name
was one of those on the forefront that he would
end up taking the torch. But as he said from
Albert Breer earlier this week, that this organization is operating
in two thousand and five and not twenty twenty five
is a damning indictment on what we think is one
of the model franchises of the NFL. And that's and
(44:14):
I guess that's why a change needs to be made.
And Mike Vrabel, for as great as he was at Tennessee,
also didn't do everything exactly the Bill Belichick way. So
it's almost the best of both worlds for I think
the Craft family and bringing Mike Vrabel in if that
would be the case. Excellent point. And that's the thing
about Vrabel, right.
Speaker 3 (44:32):
And I've talked about this before about no head coaches
coming from certain head coach in trees, right, And so
you would think that a lot of times they follow,
you know, kind of follow the standard of what that
head coach taught them, what they learned, what they what
they learned from it. And you can see some of
those guys like we go from the you know, the
Shanahans and the Mike McDaniels and all those in that tree,
(44:55):
and you know, Mike McDaniels does it differently, even though
he starts out he started out with in Miami, you know,
the run game, the zone stretch, the passing, the same
kind of look. He's a little different and you put
your own flavor on it. And that's part of you know,
being able to identify yourself as yourself. Rabel the same way.
Rabel isn't I guess quote unquote from his coaching tree anyway.
(45:17):
He's just played under him, so he has his own
way of doing things. Obviously he learned a lot, but
he's his own individual and that's what I think I've
liked when I've seen Brabel as a coach.
Speaker 2 (45:27):
And Carrie said something in the first hour, We'll say
carry Roads won Dan Byer nothing because the reasons on
why I thought the timing of this was interesting because
you mentioned Rabel interviewed with the Jets over the weekend
about their head coaching vacancy, and I thought that was
either to keep everybody off the scent that Gerrod Mayo
was likely going to be out and that this would
(45:48):
allow them to do that, or it was a way
to stick it to the Jets again, to be like, yeah,
I'll interview with you, but I'm really going to go
to New England and stick it to you that way.
And you said what this also does is if Rabel
goes out in the interviews with the team, and right
now the Jets were one of the three vacancies and
the Saints and Bears haven't been active in interviewing candidates.
That what it did allow was that it would put
(46:10):
pressure on the New England Patriots and what a d. D.
Kinkabwalla of CBS Sports reports she said this that Rabel's
dalliance with the Jets was quote to put pressure on
the Patriots to make a move with a young, incredibly
promising quarterback more cap space than anyone in stable ownership.
Of course, the New England job ranks high end. Quote. Now,
(46:31):
the last part may have been some window dressing from
a d D. But the point is is Rabel wanted
to tell New England, all right, if you don't make
a move, not only will I come back to the
NFL that I'm willing to do it with your ar rival.
Something that you said would put pressure on New England.
Speaker 3 (46:46):
Yeah, as part of you know, part of the sportsmanship,
the gangsmanship that happens in that business. And again I
mean yes, Drake may has I think, you know, definitely
added fuel to any head coach wanting to go there
to play and be a part of that organization.
Speaker 2 (47:02):
He's a really good player.
Speaker 3 (47:04):
You have Christin Gonzalez on the defense, You had a
good corner, and so any good team to have a
really good quarterback in place and a lockdown corner in place,
there's always an attractive thing and then you from there.
Speaker 2 (47:15):
You build from there. One of the headlines of the
college football playoff or one of the things that's been
talked about, at least with the coaches specific specifically with
the coaches at Penn State and Notre Dame. Is you're
going to have an African American head coach in the
College Football National Championship Game? Yes, Rod Mayo gets one year.
We know about the lack of representation with African American
head coaches that we've seen throughout the league. Is there
(47:38):
any of that to question with the New England's decision?
Is girod Mayo moved out after one season? Is there
any reason to maybe pop up a red flag because
of Droid Mayo's dismissal today?
Speaker 3 (47:50):
No, absolutely not. I mean New England, like I said,
that cupboard was bear. They didn't have the resources to
really compete at a high level. You're bringing a Gerard
Mayo who really had no coaching experience outside of this.
Speaker 2 (48:03):
This is his first real opportunity to be that guy.
Speaker 3 (48:07):
And you know, it was a lose lose situation. And
I'm sure when you look back at it, I'm sure
some people may you know, bring that and that question
may arise, but he didn't do a good enough job
in my opinion to you know, obviously, it's one years
quick you think that you at least get a two
years at least there, But when you have another hire
out there that you believe can put yourself in a
(48:28):
better position to succeed. And it's not like where it's
they're bringing in a guy that hasn't had success and
we don't know what it looks like. They're bringing in
a guy that knows how to win and knows how
to coach and somebody that has ties there. So I
don't see I don't see that being an issue. Yeah,
I think that Mike Rabel is the apple of the
eye in the coaching he and Ben Johnson depending on
(48:49):
where you would want to go. And even the stuff
that I read and I think that you can see
it on the outside, is that no matter how many
openings there are going to be as and then for
an NFL team again, now there are four, if there
are five or six. If you're looking for the offensive guy,
Ben Johnson's going to be number one in your list. Yes,
(49:09):
if you're looking for the culture guy, Mike Rabel is
going to be number one in your list.
Speaker 2 (49:13):
And you're not going to get a lot of cross
crossing of that. Like if you're looking for an offensive
guy to run your team, and New England has a quarterback,
but that may not be what the Craft family is
looking for. That you're maybe not going that. You're maybe
not going down that road. If you want an offensive guy,
You're not going to interview Mike Rabel because you're not
there to change the culture. You're there to take care
of the quarterback and vice versa. If you're there to
(49:35):
change a culture, maybe you're not necessarily worried about what's
happening with your offense. So that point was pointed out
by some throughout the week of in this coaching search
and whatever it's going to be, and how many openings
there are going to be, you're likely going to have
two lanes if that's the case of a culture guy
and then maybe coordinator guy moving into a job.
Speaker 3 (49:54):
Yeah, this is it's always, you know, these conversations arise
because of the color of someone scan and I and
I get it because it's been one of those things
where we've had to actually make a rule for you know,
people of color to actually get those get interviews, which
is sure crazy. But when you look at this as
(50:14):
a as a separate entity outside of what I just said,
the job just wasn't done well enough. And again it
was almost like, you know, he's coming in. He's almost
like a lame duck situation anyway, and unless he superseded
expectations on like this exponential level where it's like, oh,
you can't fire him now, he was always going to
(50:35):
be on the hot seat. And I think when you
have a chance to go get somebody that you believe in,
that you know can get the job done and understands
the system, you do that.
Speaker 2 (50:42):
That's the whole part. And it was more of me,
I think, sticking up for Bill Belichick throughout the whole
saga of last year than it had anything to do
with Girard Mayo as the head coach. The problem that
I saw was how what does Girard and Mayo know
that Bill Belichick doesn't. What is because Gerrod Mayo has
(51:03):
learned everything that he probably knows from the NFL because
of Bill Belichick and what was under that tree and
under that umbrella. And so that was the point of that.
I had a question of Carrie, is if you're going
to move out Bill Belichick, then why would you bring
in a Belichick disciple to replace him? I agree, yeah,
And because that didn't make sense, and then it was.
(51:24):
It was such an indictment on the messaging of Bill
Belichick to do that, and to think that, to think
that any player could come in without the experience and
do better than what Bill Belichick did. I just think
it was false. It was poor thinking. But I'm not
sure the Patriots necessarily thought that through. I think that
(51:44):
they were in a way went halfway on it, weren't
willing to separate themselves, or maybe they took the easy
way out. But now you're going to continue. And again,
Mike Rebell has not been the head coach of the
New England Patriots, but as Carrie said, that's the first
thing he thought of when the move for Mayo being
out was made. And now we're hearing more rumblings that
Rabel and reports is trying to put pressure on them,
(52:07):
So maybe it's more of a likelihood than we thought.
I just didn't understand the Mayo hiring from the beginning,
considering the message that you were sending and moving off
of Bill Belichick.
Speaker 3 (52:16):
And I think the only message that could come from
that is it was just a stopgap until something else
that they wanted came available, and that's what it looks like.
Speaker 2 (52:26):
And if that's the case, that's a shame. Yeah, like
that then I would be mad if if I mean,
if I'm Drid Mayo in that case.
Speaker 3 (52:34):
And you know what, even peeling back the layers a
little bit more, it's who knows what the conversations were
obviously between them, even when the hire was happening, Like,
you know what was I don't even know what was
this deal?
Speaker 2 (52:47):
Do you know his deal Mayo was their contract? Yeah? No,
I don't have it offhand, but the uh, I mean
he was he was the first head coaching higher I
believe of the cycle last year because it was him
getting the job right away and they just say like okay,
ye Drawed Mayo is going to be our head coach.
So yeah, I don't know the exact numbers.
Speaker 3 (53:09):
Yeah, yeah, yeah no, because I mean you would think, like,
I mean, he's still he's going to be still paid
whatever that deal lands. I think it was maybe was
it three years? I think it was three years. I'm
not sure one hundred percent sure it's getting paid for
those three years. So the money still, the checks are
going to be cast. You come in, you have a
chance to be the head coach. Of a team and
show what you can do in a year, and then
(53:30):
you know, if something pops up, obviously they're going to
take the guy they want. I don't think that was
a discussion, but I would think internally that had that
that had to be discussed.
Speaker 2 (53:39):
There was a report in the in the fall that
uh Drod Mayo had a buyout see that was about
ten million dollars. I'm telling you, just like hearing it
that then they're paying him ten million dollars or he's
becoming their head coach, and that they chose to then
make him their head coach.
Speaker 3 (54:00):
That's just from like seeing it. Like it's like it's
almost like the process of LEMA.
Speaker 2 (54:05):
I'm going to be completely transparent here and just say
because I wanted to find out the numbers that you
were talking about. Yeah, and so I just typed in contract.
That was the first thing that came up. Was not
about the actual contract, which I still haven't landed on,
but this article came in and maybe why New England
was damn pinched to give him the head coach. Kerry
Rhodes knows that's not just on the field, it's off
(54:27):
the field. And then the front office rams have kicked
a field goal, They've gotten a bit closer to the Seahawks.
Seattle still leads it though, seventeen to sixteen. The Rams
are the NFC West Division champions. We know that, but
they are right now jockeying for position with the Buccaneers,
who clinched the NFC South earlier today with the win
against the Saints. If the Rams lose this game, Tampa's
(54:50):
the three seed in the NFC. The Rams are the
fourth seed. So the Rams right now would be the
fourth seed and they'd face the loser of tonight's Vikings
Lions game in the Wildcard round. The other huge game,
not that the others don't have implications, because they do,
but an actual playoff spot is on the line. In Denver,
the Broncos continue to lead the Chiefs twenty four to
(55:11):
zering in the third quarter. It's now seemingly a foregone
conclusion that the Chiefs obviously didn't care about this game.
They know Patrick Mahomes, no Isaiah Pacheco, no Travis Kelce,
no Chris Jones, most everybody sitting out, and it's a
thirty four to zing game. Bo Nick started out seventeen
to seventeen He's thrown just two incomplete passes so far
(55:32):
this game, but it's been all Denver and it will
likely continue that way. Awful news for the Dolphins, who
are not helping their cause. They're down to the Jets
fifteen to six. The Dolphins needed a Broncos lost today
to grab that final wildcard and to win over the Jets,
which they may not get. And then the other contest
has the Chargers, who are right now knocking on the
door trying to score against the Raiders, up seventeen to ten,
(55:55):
five minutes gone by in the second half, facing a
second and three at the Raiders nine yard line. If
the Chargers win this game, they're the fifth seed in
the AFC wildcard picture and they would travel to Houston
for Wildcard Week next week.
Speaker 3 (56:07):
That'd be a great matchup and a favorable matchup for
the Chargers. I think they would beat the Texans, and
so I think for them this is a huge be
a huge win.
Speaker 2 (56:18):
He's carry Rhoads. I'm dan Byer. That's what the playoff
picture looks like now, is Mike, We're able to foregone
conclusion and could we see more coaches get their pink
slips by the end of today. Adam Kaplan or Fox
Sports Radio NFL in Center joins us. Next He's carry
I'm Dan. This is Fox Sports Red Zone Radio.
Speaker 4 (56:34):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at Foxsports Radio

Speaker 2 (56:46):
Fox Sports Red Zone Radio. The Seahawks are in the
red zone and just got into the end zone. Gino
Smith is third touchdown pass of the year, this one
to AJ Barner, and the Seahawks are extending their lead
over the Rams and want to five games of this
late window here in week eighteen. He is the All
Pro Carrie Rhodes. I'm Dan Beyer. It is Fox Sports
(57:07):
Red Zone Radio. Extra point coming up, but it's right now.
The Seahawks twenty three, Rams sixteen. It's good news for
the Buccaneers, who would move up a seed line if
the Rams lose this game. The Buccaneers, winners of the
NFC South would be the three seed in the NFC.
They would face Washington next week. I would think that
(57:27):
they would rather face Washington than detroiter Minnesota. And that's
I don't think. I don't think I'm out of pocket
and saying that no disrespect to the Commanders, But whoever
the fur seed is is gonna have to find the
loser or play the loser of Tonight's a Sunday night
game next week in the wild card round. So Denver's
up on Kansas City right now thirty one to nothing,
two forty nine left to go in the third quarter,
(57:49):
so the Broncos are just seventeen minutes away from clinching
the final playoff spot of the AFC. That makes the
Dolphins game against the Jets not meaningful. But the Dolphins
are losing to the Jets right now, fifteen to six.
The Chargers settled for a field goal on that red
zone trip, so they're up on the Raiders twenty to ten,
and with a win, the Chargers would be the five
seed in the AFC and go to Houston in the
(58:10):
Wildcard round, meaning we'd have a Pittsburgh Baltimore matchup in
the Wildcard round in a three to six matchup. In
the other game, the Cardinals lead the forty nine Ers
twenty to seventeen. The other news of the day is
that Drod Mayo's out as the head coach of the
New England Patriots. Something we've actually been talking about quite
a bit. We'll continue to talk about right now with
our Fox Sports Radio nfln Center, Adam Kaplan. You can
(58:31):
hear them on the Inside the Birds podcast and also
on the Pro Football Network is where you can read them.
I asked you last week, Adam, if there was something
to this, and you did not shy away from it
and saying that we could possibly see something. And now
we saw Drod Mayo out after one year.
Speaker 10 (58:46):
All right, I'm gonna tell you I haven't talked about this.
I'm just gonna give you what I've known. So I'm
gonna take you back to there's a lot to unpack here.
So Dron Mayo really really good football player, very smart guy,
talk to people who worked around draw out of knownum.
Just a really smart football person. But as one source
(59:09):
told me about an hour ago, right person, wrong time.
Speaker 11 (59:12):
This person said, Mayo probably was not ready to be
a head coach.
Speaker 10 (59:16):
He just kind of had this feeling, this person who's
been kind of cloning me in on some stuff the
last four weeks. But one thing that I've known separately,
and I'm going to go back to, say February or
March of last year, is that someone who interviewed for
a job with the Patriots in the front office told
me that he could tell sitting in with the people
he interviewed that they weren't completely sure if Mayo was ready.
(59:40):
So I think what's happened Dan and Carrie throughout this
is that sometimes a guy could a head coach, or
aw a young head coach like Drive Mayo at thirty seven,
could sometime sometimes go in there and help make the
team better than it is.
Speaker 11 (59:58):
They have a really bad roster.
Speaker 10 (01:00:00):
This is a bottom five roster, though they're optimists about
the quarterback, but he couldn't get the roster to play better.
It just it never. People close the situation told me
that it never. They never really felt that Mayo could
make this team better than it was, and they felt
like it probably would not have gotten much better with
him next year. There's a saying around the national football
(01:00:22):
legue when you know you don't delay it, you just
have to go with your convictions. And robber Craft clearly
and his son Jonathan, who has to say in this,
My understanding is they're pretty unified in this decision. And again,
when you asked me last week. I was not surprised.
This is the one that I thought that not a
lot of people were talking about, but I thought was real,
and unfortunately it happened.
Speaker 3 (01:00:42):
Today, Adam, if I was to say, by all accounts,
this feels like this was like a bridge, like a
stop gap for the next person to come in.
Speaker 11 (01:00:53):
Meaning Mike Rabel here.
Speaker 2 (01:00:56):
Ahead, so like you know, meaning like we can we
can sacrifice one year.
Speaker 3 (01:01:01):
This team isn't good, yeah, and our guy that we
want isn't available, but now he is.
Speaker 2 (01:01:06):
I'm going to take him now. Would would that make sense?
Would that? Would that sound like something that will happen?
Speaker 11 (01:01:12):
You know what?
Speaker 10 (01:01:12):
Well, I mean, maybe it is on that Rabel will
obviously go to the top of the list, and maybe
that's what you're referring to. But I'm going to give
you something that I remember talking to someone with the Broncos.
So at the when Kevin O'Connell was the offensive coordinated
for the Rams before the Vikings hired to miss the
head coach the Broncos. I can't say they were definitely
going to hire him. I was told by a Bronco
(01:01:33):
source that they absolutely wanted to talk to him, but
they kept they didn't want to wait because if they
knew if they couldn't get him, they wouldn't have anybody.
So they settled, unfortunately on on Nate Hackett and he
got fired during his first season even finish it, and
part of that was to get Aaron Rodgers and it
obviously didn't work out. So that's the thing, is like, okay,
(01:01:53):
if you if there's some candidates you like out there also,
and it's the back of mind that they could become
available and obviously vailable by the way, is available because
he was fired last year.
Speaker 11 (01:02:04):
At the end of last season, so it's yeah, could
have been.
Speaker 2 (01:02:08):
Now.
Speaker 10 (01:02:08):
I don't think Robert Craft and Jonathan Craft really knew
that this would be a stopgap that remember he was
the coach in waiting for Belichick. They because Mayo had
two or three other teams interested. They said, hey, listen,
if we give you a contract that says you'll be
bill successful, will.
Speaker 2 (01:02:23):
You do it?
Speaker 10 (01:02:24):
And Drew did it and now they but but by
the way, they got to pay him several years of salary,
so that's the way it's going to be.
Speaker 2 (01:02:30):
Doesn't help either that they knocked the Patriots, by the way,
knocked myself Number.
Speaker 10 (01:02:35):
One, not that they need a quarterback, but that the
value of trading that pick, which is going to be
cam Ward.
Speaker 11 (01:02:40):
He's by far the best quarterback for the draft.
Speaker 10 (01:02:42):
And I know we're not going to do draft stuff now,
but it's really two quarterback draft and awards to the guy,
no question.
Speaker 2 (01:02:47):
That's all right, It's all part of the conversation. He
is carries. I'm dan Byer Adam Kaplan our NFL inside
are joining us here, get him on x at Kaplan NFL.
I do want to kind of talk about the top
of the draft and who is still there Giants. Is
everything going to be in place? Do we think over
the next forty four hours? Because they did benefit from
the Patriots lost, they've now moved into a top three spot,
(01:03:10):
likely also looking for a quarterback in the draft.
Speaker 10 (01:03:12):
What about Yeah, I would say this with if you're
talking about the front office and the hit the coach, yes, Shane, Yeah,
all right. Let me just tell you the way I
feel about this. I know for a fact that John
Marra is as embarrassed as he is is the way
this team has performed. As one league swist told me
this week, he also knows that it's not fair that
(01:03:36):
they don't have a quarterback, and John Mara most people
don't know this, particularly outside of the organization, was very
close to Daniel Jones is one Giants first told me.
He was like Asunda to uh Mara and it obviously
it didn't work out and they had to cut him,
and you know it. I don't want to say Joe
Shane felt forced to sign to an extension, but he
(01:03:57):
inherited the quarterback. Yes, they made the playof their first year.
They shocked the world when they also won on the
road out the Vikings, which is sort of surprised to people.
Speaker 11 (01:04:07):
But ever since then, obviously they've been in the downward track.
Speaker 10 (01:04:09):
I just feel like married doesn't want to fire him,
but I'm not rolling it out because let me folks,
I don't know if you saw the game today, it
was obviously snooze fest. The Eagles played two starters today,
they're backups. The Eagles never trailed them this game. They dominated,
and the Giants had a chance to tie. They had
a number of penalties in the fourth quarter. That's just
bad coaching. I mean, when you continually are off sides
(01:04:31):
like who is coaching this team? That's the problem that
I have and that shows a lack of discipline. And
I know there's a saying and Kerry knows this. When
it's happening, you're allowing it. And that's what happened today.
Speaker 2 (01:04:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:04:41):
No, I mean there was no point in this game
where I thought the Giants were actually trying to win
the game.
Speaker 10 (01:04:45):
So I don't know, but they gave it to the Eagles,
and the Eagles were playing all backups.
Speaker 2 (01:04:50):
And I'll say this, there was no point in this
game that I actually watched it. No.
Speaker 10 (01:04:53):
I know, although this kid, this quarterback got a Stanford
this time. He's been ripping it and he actually had
a good training ca Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:05:01):
Yeah, I mean out of I mean, Tennessee, Cleveland, the Giants,
they all need a quarterback. I don't know if this
particular draft has that quarterback in my opinion. I mean,
cam Ward is a nice story. Shador is a nice story.
But you know, the one quarterback that I've been I've
been kind of, you know, floating the idea about actually
rising in my mind is a Jackson Dart from Old Miss.
Speaker 2 (01:05:23):
Can you talk about him at all?
Speaker 11 (01:05:24):
I know I do know about him.
Speaker 10 (01:05:26):
Yeah, He's he's an interesting he's interesting like, yeah, I
would put him in the third round, but I need
more information. Yep, because there's some good tape. There's some
not so good tape. The game against Kentucky. I remember
someone who's in scouting told me was not very good.
Speaker 2 (01:05:40):
Yep.
Speaker 10 (01:05:40):
Uh, they blew at home. They should have won that game. Yeah,
you know, Kurriysy. This is the and by the way,
for freege see it's terrible. Every day of my freene
see lists. It's it's embarrassing. Now, you know, we have
to see what Atlanta does with Kirk. Cousins still have
some value. I know they know that. Because Kirk has
no trade clause, he could kill any potential trade. The
dark Carr situation, Saints have to deal with him. There's
(01:06:02):
no more guaranteed money left. They have to make a decision.
I mean there's a possibility, he stays, I wouldn't have
thought that a month ago. But it's guys, this is
you just nailed it. This is not a good year
to need a quarterback.
Speaker 7 (01:06:13):
No.
Speaker 10 (01:06:14):
I would also say this draft class that just happened
turned out to be a little bit better than we thought.
Speaker 11 (01:06:17):
I did not believe.
Speaker 10 (01:06:18):
I'll admit I did not think bo Nicks was because
the people I trust told me shouldn't have go in
the first round. And it looks pretty good now. I mean,
he he's certainly well has schedule. I got to give
Sean Payton. Sean Payton, I'm told by a Broncosurs drove
the train on that one. This was his guy and
that boy. They they that that's another team, folks, that
(01:06:38):
you just could not see.
Speaker 3 (01:06:39):
This is a great story, Adam, the crazyt part of
what you just said about bo Nicks. I didn't think
he could play in the NFL, to be honest. No,
no I saw him. No, No, I mean I'm not saying
after after Orgon had changed, Okay, but when I saw yeah,
when I saw him at albut he couldn't even throw
a spiral down the field. So it was that's true. Yeah,
it was crazy to see.
Speaker 11 (01:06:58):
That is true.
Speaker 10 (01:06:59):
Most people don't know that, by the way, kra I'm
glad you said that, because it was like, Okay, like
Joe Flacco, right, Joe Flacco went to University of Delaware,
but before that he was at pitt Dave Wantstatt told
him that you're not playing here anymore. It's going to
be Tyler palco of all people Poles right, and Joe
was given by the Scouting Service as a seventh round
great prior to his final season Delaware.
Speaker 11 (01:07:20):
Then you know how it happened.
Speaker 10 (01:07:21):
He toured up, went to the senior ball, and the
Russ's sisty became a late first round pick. So I
think what happens is we got to take all the
information in. But I'm just a little surprised that you're
actually more than a little surprise. I'll very surprised that
Nick has done as well. In fact, I know that Daniels.
In fact, I have to vote for two poles, and
I got to start taking this stuff seriously. But Daniels
is the clear rookie of the year for offense. Yeah,
(01:07:43):
but man bo nixs is you got to start looking
at him a little bit.
Speaker 2 (01:07:46):
Rams are driving against the Seahawks. It's an eight point game,
but they are in Seattle's red zone as they play
early in the fourth quarter. Monci Bilanios will have a
score update for us in just a minute. I do
want to ask you about something that happened last week though,
and how it plays into moving forward. So Brock Party
gets dinged up against the Detroit Lions, and there's obviously
(01:08:07):
the conversation with Perty and now you have another injury
and maybe some bad turnovers that he had in that contest.
Now that it is the off season, he's not playing
today against Arizona, it is there is there any chance
the forty nine ers don't do anything with Perty, Well,
they just he won't come back.
Speaker 10 (01:08:26):
Here's one thing I'll tell you, and I could just
tell you, there's no way he comes back with his
contract being trusted at the very minimum. Why because he's
making under two two million, two million final years. Deal
like that can't happen. There might be some small escalators
in this contract to get It's not in front of
me right now, but as is, it's less than two million.
Speaker 11 (01:08:45):
That's not unacceptable.
Speaker 10 (01:08:48):
By the way, what the crazy thing is his agent
Kyle Strong and needs to be a scout for the Niners.
This is kind of funny how things work out. But yeah, no,
he won't not come back. That there's no way and
they won't put that now. But but what I would
tell you is at fifty five million a year, you
know the deal that that Trevor Lawrence got. I mean,
(01:09:10):
I know some people are talking fifty seven to sixty million,
that's out the door.
Speaker 11 (01:09:13):
How do you justify it?
Speaker 2 (01:09:14):
Sure? Could you justify it? Two year deal like the
Green Bay did with Jordan Love.
Speaker 10 (01:09:18):
And what they could I was funny you said, because
that was the one I was thinking last week. Somebody
asked me, I go, you know what, I got to
look up that Jordan Love deal because they might need
an early bridge deal.
Speaker 11 (01:09:25):
Before they get to the big one.
Speaker 2 (01:09:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 10 (01:09:26):
Because Dan, It's a good point because I was stun
when that when the when the Jaguars did that deal.
I'm like, there's a saying in with clubs. A club
could do a bad deal at any time. Just ask
the Browns.
Speaker 11 (01:09:41):
Well, that's the worst.
Speaker 10 (01:09:42):
Deal in NFL history. And that's just that's that's that's
another story, Kerry. I'm still mad at that one. And
because the fans deserve better and and and the watch
watch what happened with some of their players this offseason.
That's something we're gonna be talking about in free agency
number ninety five's have got to watch there.
Speaker 11 (01:09:58):
But I don't want to open any more worms here,
but of words, But.
Speaker 10 (01:10:01):
Get back to your point though, you know, in the end,
it's a quarterback driven league. And this pretty situation is
fascinating because I don't know how you structures contract.
Speaker 11 (01:10:10):
I really don't.
Speaker 2 (01:10:10):
Right now, I'll tell you think that's a bad deal.
I know a guy who bought a bag of Fredo's
just so he could get to the doritos behind it
in the vending machine. So he basically played double, paid
double for the doritos. And he's sitting right next to me.
And did it.
Speaker 11 (01:10:24):
Sein fell when Putty was in working.
Speaker 12 (01:10:26):
They're all twits jobs, dude, Adam, Adam, you gotta get
what you gotta get what you want at him.
Speaker 2 (01:10:38):
I'll tell you, man and man, thank you very much,
thank you for everything you've done this season. We can't
wait to talk more in the playoffs.
Speaker 11 (01:10:45):
Preciate talk next week, folks.
Speaker 10 (01:10:46):
Yeah, you know what one of these states, you know
I do double segments with sports coup.
Speaker 11 (01:10:50):
One of these states will do two segments all right?
Speaker 2 (01:10:52):
Perfect? Yeah, now with not as much games going on
and whatnot, you know, Yeah, we can.
Speaker 11 (01:10:57):
Any time if you want to do it.
Speaker 2 (01:10:58):
I could do it.
Speaker 11 (01:10:58):
I still get pay the same money.
Speaker 2 (01:11:01):
The most important detail of all. Thanks Adam, having new year.
We'll thank you, all right, let's go to Manzi Milanio's
at the news desk getting us up to date of
what's happening in these later wins. It's going on Manzi Jazz.
Speaker 6 (01:11:11):
So Jimmy Garoppolo just connected with Tyler Johnson in the
end zone for the Rams.
Speaker 5 (01:11:15):
They went for a two point conversion. It was no boy.
Speaker 6 (01:11:17):
Also, the Seahawks are still on top twenty four to
twenty two early in the fourth quarter. The Chargers and
the Raiders have exchanged field goals in the third quarter,
so LA is still on top twenty to thirteen. It's
been all Broncos against the Chiefs. Bonix with his fourth
touchdown pass of the day. The second went to Marvin
Min's junior, So the Broncos are up thirty one zero
against the Chiefs. I'm surprised about this only because Carson
(01:11:40):
Wentz had an incentive if he played fifty percent of
the plays and one, he got one hundred thousand dollars
for the winning for the Chiefs. So I wonder if
the Chiefs were like, listen, we'll pay you.
Speaker 5 (01:11:49):
It's fine. Just lose the game.
Speaker 2 (01:11:50):
He'll get it under the table.
Speaker 6 (01:11:52):
Just don't don't do much, don't get out there and
have the game of your life.
Speaker 5 (01:11:57):
Please. The Jets also hit a field goal in the
third quarter.
Speaker 6 (01:12:00):
They try to get in the end zone, they had
to settle for a field goal, so they're still on
top of the Dolphins eighteen to six. Five minutes to
go in the third quarter, the Cardinals did get in
the end zone, Kyler Murray connecting with Greg Dorsch. They
went for a two point conversion. No boy, no, so
Arizona is still on top against the forty nine Ers
twenty six to seventeen halfway through the third quarter. Earlier today,
the Patriots, who beat the Bills twenty three to sixteen.
(01:12:22):
They announced since then that they have fired head coach
Gerald Mayo after one year. We know that the Buccaneers
clinched the NFC South for the fourth straight year after
coming back to beat the Saints twenty seven to nineteen.
The Bears walked it off with the fifty one yard
field goal to beat the Packers twenty two to twenty one,
and the Eagles took down the Giants twenty to thirteen.
So we do know that the number seven seed will
be the Packers who will visit the number two seed
(01:12:43):
Eagles and in the wild card round. I'm gonna give
you an NBA update because that's Week eighteen of the NFL,
so we're gonna start trickling other things.
Speaker 5 (01:12:52):
The Oklahoma City Thunder so good. They just beat the
Clippers the other day. They're so annoying.
Speaker 6 (01:12:57):
They're pesky, They're in your faith all game. They're so annoying.
They came back to beat the Celtics one O five
to ninety two. Fifteen straight wins for Oklahoma City. Held
Boston to just twenty seven points in the second half.
Speaker 5 (01:13:10):
They are a real deal.
Speaker 2 (01:13:11):
Did they have eight points or ten points in that
fourth quarter?
Speaker 5 (01:13:14):
I nothing like it was, Yeah, it was. It was
very low.
Speaker 6 (01:13:18):
And for you Dan Bayer at the century, Yes, I
got you. Deki Matsuyama is in the lead. He is
thirty three under part overall today. He is six underd
through thirteen holes. Colin Morikawa is four shots back, three
underd for the day through thirteen holes.
Speaker 5 (01:13:34):
But right now, Deki Matsuyama in the lead. Got to you, guys.
Speaker 2 (01:13:37):
It's the start of the PGA Tour season. Oh yes, yes,
they can hit some monster drives. There a lot of
elevation changes, but beautiful beautiful place to start the PGA
Tour season.
Speaker 3 (01:13:50):
To kind of commemorate that the start of the season,
you would like to tell the listeners how I won
the Putton Championship last.
Speaker 2 (01:14:00):
Carry Rhoads was our Mancy was unable to participate because
of illness. We did hold a putting competition here at
Fox Sports Radio. That was last week. That felt like
it was like a day ago, week ago. Yes, Carrie
Rhoads ended up winning, except the Lorena for some reason
showed up. She didn't have to work till eleven and
(01:14:20):
then just putt and actually beat his. It wasn't official,
but I said I didn't bring the clubs today the
next week, remind me we'll bring it in. Yes, we'll
have another Manzi then can participate because she won't be sick.
And then yeah, yes, I don't know. I hit her
(01:14:41):
up at Manzy Belano. Find him at Carrie twenty five
Roads on next you can find me at dan Byer
on Fox and at dan Byer on Blue Sky. Again.
Carry Roads saw the Fredo's bottom just so you could
get to the cool ranch Dorito's, and then would you
pass them off to burshing her. Yeah, you got the
three he was excited for the Winds. Great, thank you,
(01:15:02):
You're welcome. All right, Bursu's gonna have a look at
some incentives. Plus we'll keep you up to date on
the ever evolving playoff picture that is changing by the minute.
Here in the NFL. He's Carrier Roads. I'm Dan Byer.
That's next here on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (01:15:17):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (01:15:20):
Radio, Fox Sports Red Zone Radio. I'm Dan Byer. He's
Carry Rhodes, betting a dude to the NFL regular season.
Here in Week eighteen, and the Rams are knocking on
the door trying to lock up the three seed in
the NFC. They are down two to the Seahawks with
under nine minutes to go, but a big plays just
put them in Seattle territory right around the twenty five
(01:15:43):
yard line. So the Rams right now, with a win,
would be the three seed in the NFC. If they lose,
they would be the four seed in the NFC playoffs.
And there's quite a difference between the possible opponent. The
four seed will face out of the detroiter Minnesota in
the wild card round. Seed will face the Washington Commanders,
as we've talked about. But if you're just joining us.
(01:16:04):
Green Bay will be at Philadelphia in a two to
seven matchup in the NFC, and obviously the one seed
in the NFC decided tonight as the Vikings and Lions
will play in Detroit with the winner being that top seed.
The Rams not playing any of their stars on offense.
No Puka Nakua, no Cooper Cup, no Matthew Stafford. So
it's been Jimmy Garoppolo at the helm, but the Rams
(01:16:25):
at least in field goal position to possibly take the
lead against Seattle, a team that they just edged out
for the division and are going for a season sweep. Now,
that wasn't the marquee game of this late window. The
marquee game actually was in Denver because you had the
Chiefs and Broncos playing, and if Denver didn't win, that
opened the door for the Dolphins and the Bengals to
(01:16:46):
have hope. That door was never remotely close to being open.
Kerry Roads. It is thirty eight nothing Denver, And in fact,
if this was a projection on election night, i am
calling the seventh seed in the AFC or the Denver Broncos.
At this point, this is a race that is called
seventy five percent of the precincts are in and they
(01:17:06):
have all voted for Denver at that point, so this
is a Denver call. They will get the three seed
of the seventh seed. As they are leading the Chiefs
thirty eight to nothing midway through the fourth quarter.
Speaker 3 (01:17:17):
Well, I guess if you live in California, you'll count
the rest of those votes by the end of the week.
But we'll we'll move on from there. Yeah, thank you,
thank you very much. But no, it's crazy. I mean,
you got the Rams here who are down by two,
didn't play any of the starters. You have a quality
backup in Garoppolo can go in and actually still compete
and give you give you a chance to win the game.
(01:17:38):
They're kicking the field goal now to possibly go up.
Made the field goal. Now they're up by one with
seven minutes left. So that's the you know, I guess
the silver line in here.
Speaker 2 (01:17:48):
You got a quarterback that can go out and win
you a game. The Chargers are up two scores on
the Raiders, or the Chargers getting closer to that fifth
seed in the AFC. It is insteadive week in the
week eighteen, we've got to look at those with our
buddy Ryan Berschinger.
Speaker 1 (01:18:01):
Fantasy Heads and the miss.
Speaker 2 (01:18:04):
I know I crunched a bush on time, but if
you could give us a couple, that'd be great. That's okay.
Speaker 9 (01:18:08):
There's only a couple, a couple of really important ones
from these five games here. So Gino Smith came into
today one hundred and eighty five passing yards away from
a two million dollar bonus. He has one hundred and
eighty six. So congratulations, Geno Smith, you.
Speaker 2 (01:18:23):
Will not call a screenplay at all the rest of
their game wards. That is an extra two million dollars.
Speaker 9 (01:18:29):
Now, he needs to also finish with a completion rate
of sixty nine point seven percent at least in order
to get another two million dollar bonus. He is currently
seventeen of twenty four, which puts him at about seventy
percent seventy point six. So I don't know. We're just
going to hand it to the ex Charbonnagy Sam Howells
(01:18:50):
in the game exactly, Kyler Murray came in fifty rushing
yards and a rushing touchdown away from seven hundred and
fifty thousand dollars. Escalator three rushes for twenty two yards
thus far, so not looking great there. For Kyler, we
mentioned Courtland Sutton already got his two million dollar bonus
in the first half. He needed eighty two receiving yards.
(01:19:11):
He's got ninety eight now. DeAndre Hopkins needed nine catches
one hundred and forty yards. I don't think he's even playing.
He also, DeAndre Hopkins has a one hundred and seventy
eight straight games with a catch played, so I don't
think he's played today. Yes, so because of that, he's
gonna keep that streak active. JK Dobbins, this is a
(01:19:31):
big one here. JK Dobbins needs needed fifty eight rushing
yards to bump his bonus from three hundred thousand to
four and fifty thousand. He's currently at sixteen rushes for
fifty six yards, so just two more yards for another
one hundred and fifty thousand for JK. Dobbins. Brock Bauers
needed nine catches to break zach Ertz single season tight
end reception record. He's currently at two catches thus far,
(01:19:54):
and just a fun one. Juwan Jennings, he got ejected
in this game, so he finishes the season twenty five
yard shy of a thousand dollars and likely.
Speaker 2 (01:20:03):
Losing some money in the process because of the ejections
that you had. Dolphins just got into the end zone,
but it's likely too little, too late, Devon Hchen scoring.
They still trail against the Jets, but they needed a
Broncos loss today and aren't getting it from Kansas City.
He is carry roads. I'm Dan Beyer. The problem with
the NFL. I'll tell you what it is next.
Speaker 1 (01:20:25):
Don't listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (01:20:28):
We've called the seventh spot in the AFC for the
Denver Broncos. It is a done deal. They're having a
party of the Mile High City. It's one of five
games in this late window, but was the game with
the most at stake. Joe Burro on the Bengals likely
to be home now or will be home for the postseason.
Same thing with the Dolphins, who couldn't even do their
own work today. Trailing the Jets right now, as you
(01:20:51):
heard Mancy say, by five. Now. The other games that
are going on include in Los Angeles where Gino Smith
is just throwing another touchdown to Noah Fant and now
Geno Smith is likely locked in all of his incentives
except they need a win. But this is more about
the Rams than it is about the Seahawks. The touchdown
(01:21:12):
for Fant would make it a thirty to twenty five
game in favor of Seattle. They're likely to go for
two in this situation. But the Rams are playing for
seeding in the NFC, and it is a world of
difference to face Washington or to have to face Minnesota
in Detroit. And it's not meant to sound disrespectful to Washington,
but that's what the case is. If the Rams don't
(01:21:34):
win this game, they'll be the four seed and have
to welcome out of the Vikings or Lions to town
next week, while the Buccaneers then would lock up the
three seed and get Washington. Otherwise, if the Rams end
up coming back and winning this game, then the Rams
would be the three seed in host Washington next week.
That's where we are. The Chargers are also close to
wrapping up the five seed in the AFC, aided by
(01:21:55):
the Bengals win over the Steelers yesterday allowed the Chargers
to have hoped that they could move up to that
five seed, and right now, with that two scored lead,
they're actually knocking on the door for another under six
minutes to go in the game. It's twenty seven to
thirteen and Carry and I were just talking if if
you watch the wild card round and in the AFC,
(01:22:17):
you would have Denver at Buffalo, You'd have the Steelers
at the Ravens, and then you'd have the Chargers at Houston.
If we were to go with who we think is
going to be favored in that scenario, Bills would beat
the Broncos, Ravens would beat the Steelers, and we think
the Chargers would win at Houston. That's right, And that
would set up for the divisional playoff Chargers at Chiefs,
(01:22:41):
Ravens at Bills. Yes, that's what I'm talking about. I
know we're games away and we're putting the cart way
ahead of the horse on this. Yes, but that is
a very very favorable second round for the AFC playoff picture.
That'd be a really great final four.
Speaker 3 (01:23:01):
I mean you have division rivals with the Chiefs, you know,
with the Chiefs and the Chargers, so much Chiefs and
the Chargers, and then you have that you can settle
that MVP debate on the field, Josh versus Lamar.
Speaker 2 (01:23:18):
It would be great. That'd be a great four. Aaron
Rodgers has looked more mobile in this touchdown pass that
he just threw to Devonte Adams than he has in
his career. Now, the question throughout the season, I should
say not in his career, but throughout the season. But
the reason I said career. I think it went to
my mind is I wonder if that's the last pass
of his career. The Jets have just scored. It's twenty
four to thirteen, they're kicking the extra point, and he
(01:23:40):
threw it to DeVante Adams. There's a question about Rogers playing.
The Jets don't have anything to play for. If that
could be your last pass of your career. Ten minutes
left in this game. The Dolphins aren't going to the
playoffs because the Broncos won, so there's no point in
the Jets keeping it going. I think that was the
last pass we've just seen of Aaron Rodgers play career.
(01:24:01):
You think that's it? Huh? Look at when you see that,
when you see the look on Aaron Rodgers face. Yeah,
knowing that he threw it to DeVante Adams, he already
he passed five hundred touchdowns earlier in the game. When
you see that look on his face, that may tell
me something. That looked dead.
Speaker 3 (01:24:18):
It looked like admitted something for sure. Yes, he could
have actually just ran that ball in the end zone.
It was nobody in front of him, and he pulled
up and found Devonte in the back of the end zone.
That that celebration did feel that way. And even with
this game, they actually tried to do a trick play
where they threw the ball back to Aaron Rodgers for
(01:24:38):
a touchdown too, So like they're impty and the clip
on a lot of things, So sure, possibly.
Speaker 2 (01:24:43):
Why not do it during the regular season. Let's just
do it. Let's just do it when it doesn't matter.
In Week eighteen, I got a bone to pick with
Week eighteen in a little bit, the Seahawks in Rams
right now in a thirty to twenty five game. It
appeared that Already Burns may have gotten an interception off
of Jimmy Garoppolo, but the ball did hit the ground,
So it's a five point game. Seahawks to not convert
(01:25:04):
on the two point conversion, so the Rams playing for seating.
It is officially over. The Bengals and Dolphins have been eliminated.
The Broncos have locked up the seventh seed in the AFC.
It's a final from Denver. The Chiefs basically no show today.
The Broncos win thirty eight to nothing, and Denver will
now go to Buffalo for the wild card playoff next weekend.
(01:25:27):
That is confirmed. That is done, which makes me think,
why would Aaron Rodgers play anymore? Anyway, doesn't even matter
if the Dolphins came back in this contest because they're
not going to make the playoffs because of the win
by Denver today.
Speaker 3 (01:25:40):
Yeah, no, that's all all but wrapped up right now.
Last past they got the lead, take them out, let them,
let them bow down, let them bow out, and on
that last or last thor being a touchdown, we'll see
if that's the career, but as far as this season,
that should definitely be the last, last last we see
of Aaron.
Speaker 2 (01:25:59):
The Chargers are in the end zone, Hassan Haskins a
touchdown run, extra point is good. Three point thirty eight
left to go and the Chargers three thirty eight away
from being the five seed. So the only thing left
to determine outside of tonight's outcome is now the Rams
if they're going to be a three seed or they're
going to be a four seed, is they trail Seattle
(01:26:20):
in this point, do you know I want to know
why I'm not happy with the National Football League? Why
are you not happy? Dan? This is something that I've
brought up, and it has nothing to do with the
playoff seeding. There's another reason I can be the grinch
in a lot of things with the NFL. But remember
when I was rambling on about the playoff seeding and
(01:26:40):
this and that, we won't go down that road. But
the NFL sets up Week eighteen in a very weird
way where they want dramatic football in their primetime window,
and they fell backwards into it this year with the
Lions and Vikings being able to play for the number
one overall seed. But if that game doesn't happen, Carrie,
(01:27:03):
we do not have a game featuring two opponents where
it is a winner take all sort of scenario because
everything else was predicated off of something else. And so
if you wanted up if that wasn't the case, like
the Buccaneers winning today eliminated to the Falcons, well then
when you put the Buccaneers in Saints on Sunday Night
(01:27:24):
Football when the Saints had nothing to play for, they
kind of backed into it. My problem is this from
what we talked about with the NFL putting such an
emphasis on division winners, half of these divisional games today
didn't matter. I jokingly said to Adam Kaplan that I
didn't watch the Eagles and Giants, and I was half
(01:27:46):
joking because I did see one player drew locked through
an interception. But ultimately the only reason that game mattered
was for NFL Draft seeding and where the Giants would
be if they were to lose or win that game.
They ended up losing it. And a season where you
play seventeen games, six of which are against your opponents,
and you say, hey, division matters, this is if you
(01:28:09):
win your division you deserve to You're throwing one sixth
of your division divisional matchups out the window. Realistically, the
Seahawks Rams game doesn't really matter. That is for the
Rams and weather they're seating wise, but it has no
play on the division whatsoever, because everything was already set
(01:28:29):
up and set aside. Jacksonville, the Colts today divisional game.
For some reason, they went to overtime. They should just
quit at the end of regulation carry say we both
fold and just call it a tie. But hey, it
didn't matter. There's no reason to have it. That's a
divisional game. All of these divisional games should mean more
if you're putting emphasis on winning the division. And so
(01:28:51):
while the NFL wants to keep it for drama in
Week eighteen and to have a great game tonight, I
don't think that it did a great job in making
a schedule because half of these games that we think
are so important for the division actually don't matter. That's
a shame, you know what.
Speaker 3 (01:29:09):
It's a I would agree with you on that. I
think they're I think just the way the cookie crumbled
this year. Obviously we got the Lions and the Vikings tonight,
which obviously is the biggest deal at this point. I mean,
both teams can dramatically drop just by a loss, so
it means a lot for this last game. But again,
(01:29:29):
the rest of these matchups, you know, like you said,
things have already been settled because the extra week, and
so you know we're trying to make money and do
all the things.
Speaker 2 (01:29:38):
But what happened that? No, no, nothing, No, I'm sorry.
I wasn't pointing to you. I'm actually pointing to Ryan
because I think he wanted in on this. Oh, come in, Ryan,
what you got? I will say that.
Speaker 9 (01:29:51):
I don't think that coming into this week, it was
not something that I wanted to watch. It's not a
week of football I was looking forward to, given that
we knew, especially with the morning Slate, like everything did
not matter. But the quality of football today was surprisingly good.
And I don't know if that's a statement about Week
eighteen itself or the rest of the season in general,
(01:30:14):
because I was watching, like Tanner McKee and Joe Milton
both looked great at playing quarterback and that was I mean,
credit to them, and Milton had had a touchdown those
called back that looked fantastic. But we also just had
a lot of really rough quarterback play throughout the season.
Speaker 2 (01:30:33):
And I may be guilty of being a fantasy guy
or a gambling guy, you know, and I don't gamble
much with fantasy. But that's part of the problem why
Week eighteen is what kind of a downer for me.
It's that there isn't There isn't that fantasy aspect that
you normally would have the problem. The bigger problem here,
(01:30:54):
I just think, like the Chargers and Raiders. The Chargers
are playing for seeding. They opened the season against the
Raid and then they don't see them for seventeen weeks
and then they play them in a meaningless game at
the end of the year. This is a really good
rivalry in the NFL that has now just kind of
been cast aside. I get the competition of it, but
I think that's also then an indictment on what the
(01:31:14):
other games are because you don't have so the Saints
like playing their butt off against the Buccaneers and what
is a great game. Maybe there's motivation there, but we
don't know all the scenarios last week, so maybe these
teams aren't motivated to play, and that, you know, that's
maybe more of an indictment on the NFL than anything else.
That they'll take off weeks fifteen, sixteen, and seventeen, but
(01:31:35):
they'll take a chance to ruin your Christmas and do
it in week eighteen. But that doesn't mean that we've
had a great product then in those three other weeks
leading up to it, And I think that's unfortunately, that
would be a victim and you know, in what would
be a great Week eighteen.
Speaker 3 (01:31:49):
Well, so, I mean the NFL in its entirety has
been you know, it's been okay, hasn't been great this
year there's been some great moments obviously, and there's some
some standout players that all that you're always gonna want
to watch and sit in front of them, you know,
sitting in front of the TV and watch them do
what they do. But yeah, I mean there's a competition
element to this where you know, obviously as a competition
(01:32:12):
committee they're trying to make the game safer and do
all these things, but the play needs to be a
little bit better, and so to add an extra week
of it, I think that's another issue as well.
Speaker 2 (01:32:20):
Yeah, in the NFL, I think things drama and everything
makes it better. So like your your best team is
fifteen and one on now fifteen and two. After the
Chiefs lost today, one of the games didn't matter, and
they've also played in like twelve one score games, right,
you know that they've seem just kept on winning and
winning and winning, and well they'll say that's great drama,
Like how great of a team is it? Exactly? Honestly,
(01:32:40):
the most dominant team that I think we've seen at
times has been Buffalo or Baltimore in terms of you know,
I mean, the Lions had great blowout wins against like
Jacksonville and a team like that. But maybe Buffalo and
Baltimore have played ultimately the best football that we've seen
from any team in the NFL the season, not the
possible number one seeds.
Speaker 3 (01:32:58):
And that's saying a lot because Baltimore has stunk at
times as well.
Speaker 2 (01:33:02):
And Buffalo.
Speaker 3 (01:33:03):
Yeah, I think Buffalo has probably been I would say
the most you know, I guess, exciting, well rounded team,
but they've had their moments too, So it's actually really
hard to say. And I think what we can say
from this, you know, have you know Glass have field
type of situation is the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (01:33:23):
Can be fun. Yes, we don't know who's gonna win
this thing.
Speaker 3 (01:33:26):
We can all say who we think and have our
thoughts on that, but it's from them gonna It's gonna
be interesting to say these carrier roads.
Speaker 2 (01:33:33):
I'm Dan Byer. That lightning bolt that you heard was
almost a turnover in Los Angeles thirty four seconds left
and the Seahawks thought they got a turnover on a fumble,
but a ground caused the fumble. So the Rams now
third and eight facing five point deficit to Seattle, and
this is the seating that's on the line. The Raiders
(01:33:56):
Chargers game. The Raiders are driving, but it's a twenty
one point deficit with fifty tween nine seconds left in
the game. So again focusing on what's going on with
the Rams here in their scenario and playoff seating, but
the Seahawks trying to get a stop to stop their
division rival from getting a higher seed. Cardinals, by the way,
(01:34:16):
have just put the finishing touches on a win over
the forty nine Ers, turning Josh Dobbs in the forty
nine ers over. So Arizona's gonna run out the clock
and get a thirty nine to twenty four win.
Speaker 3 (01:34:25):
You see, you know Smith on the sideline, he's already
trying to stretch that cav for like the last two minutes.
So if the Rams score, he's not going to go
back in to mess up deck completion SI.
Speaker 2 (01:34:34):
To keep that bonus. There was a year if you
look at Nick chubbstats and burst I think you can
bring this up. Nick Chubb, I think in his rookie
year had nine hundred and ninety six yards rushing, but
he actually eclipsed the one thousand yard level. He got
past one thousand and then lost five yards on a
carry which took him outside of the one thousand yard mark.
(01:34:57):
I think it was nine to ninety six. I think
that's what he ended up up having. By the way,
the Rams on their third and eight only get about
five yards, so now it's a fourth and three. They
use another time out to stop the clock with twenty
one seconds? Do we have Nick Chubb's stats? Did you
hear that, Birch? Did you hear me say that or
not at all? That's okay, you got it. I heard
(01:35:17):
you say it. I just didn't do anything. Yeah, just
so you know I heard you. But yeah, it didn't
mean anything at the time. That's how my wife lives
with me. I am fully I am fully aware that
this is probably how I am at home. Nick Chubb's
rookie year, how many yards city have?
Speaker 13 (01:35:38):
He had?
Speaker 1 (01:35:39):
Six? Okay?
Speaker 2 (01:35:39):
Yeah, see I thought like the final carry against Baltimore
he lost five yards in which cost him the thousand
yard season. The Raiders are in the end zone. Brock Bauers,
adding to his banner year as a rookie, gets in
too little, too late for the Raiders, who, by the way,
probably don't mind losing this game helps them in the
draft ord or something that will break down in a second.
(01:36:00):
Now fourth and three with the Rams here they're seating
on the line, they're watching in Tampa, and now the
Seahawks will take a time out. We're just gonna keep
it here. It's the last thing we've got Fast times
with Kerry Rhodes, who will break down one of the
monumental plays for the days. It meant a lot to
one player and one team in particular. Plus we'll give
you a breakdown of the NFL Draft and how that
(01:36:22):
looks with these the late game window finalizing. I can't
tell you that Rapid Radios are the official communication device
of Fox Sports Radio. In an emergency, you want Rapid

and free shipping. So fourth and three, you've got one
time out carry you can get a first down if
you're the Rams. But here they are on the Seattle
nine yard line. What do you do in this case?
Speaker 3 (01:36:53):
Well, you gotta have it plays here fourth and three.
You want to go to a play that you can
get some movement in set and a man man covered
so up.
Speaker 2 (01:37:02):
Then they went to the sticks. Yeah, but it's gonna
be short, complete, yeah, and incomplete. So the Rams will
turn it over on downs and the celebration you hear
is in Tampa. So the Buccaneers now with the three seed,
they will face the Washington Commanders in the first round
of the playoffs, while the Rams will welcome either the
(01:37:22):
Vikings or the Lions to Los Angeles for a four
or five matchup in the wild card round. All right,
there it is. I think we've got most everything set
for the postseason. Chargers just a few kneel downs away
from wrapping up the number five seed, and then all
we've got to settle is what happens with the Lions
(01:37:43):
and Vikings tonight. He is carry roads. I'm Dan Beyer.
Carry breaks down one of the key plays of the day,
and yeah, who is sitting pretty when it comes to
the NFL Draft that's next year On Fox Sports Red
Zone Radio.

Speaker 11 (01:38:11):
Big A is it?
Speaker 1 (01:38:12):
What's right? Number one?
Speaker 2 (01:38:13):
Peeve?
Speaker 1 (01:38:13):
What's number one pet?
Speaker 2 (01:38:14):
Peeve? Ryan Burschinger, what's my number one pet? Peeve? Lyrics?
How am I supposed to outshout Kendrick Lamar?
Speaker 1 (01:38:22):
Can't happen? Not supposed to do it? Can't do it?
And know it?
Speaker 2 (01:38:27):
Do you see men do it?
Speaker 7 (01:38:28):
Well?
Speaker 2 (01:38:28):
They don't see me. Yeah, because you don't have to
say Welcome back to Fox Sports Red Zone Radio. He's
carry Roads. I'm Dan Byer. It's p eighteen live fromth
tyreq dot com Studios. Happy New Year to all of you.
Big A is in the chair. Alex Tyshirt is here
on a Sunday. Yes, Happy twenty twenty five to Alex.
It's Ryan Berschingermansi Blanos, carry Rhoads all of you. Great
(01:38:49):
to have you with us here on Fox Sports Radio.
I am now zero for two today. Not only was
Carrie right earlier today on the DRAWDMEO stuff, I thought
Aaron Rodgers through his last pass of his career. There's
two forty eight and counting to go. They're still up
five on the Dolphins, and it doesn't matter with the
Dolphins because the Chiefs ended up falling flat on their face. Today,
(01:39:11):
Broncos are in the postseason, but Aaron Rodgers still in
the game with the Jets as they are up five,
trying to go to five and twelve to wrap up
the season. Dolphins are headed home no matter what, but
they're trying to avoid a losing campaign. But Aaron Rodgers
still in the game. I was a bit surprised.
Speaker 3 (01:39:27):
Yeah, he's savoring every little moment here, every little second.
He wants to be out there. Obviously, you can see
that throughout this year. I think there was plenty of
times where he could have kind of phoned it in,
packed it in, but he has not. He's definitely went
out there and you rode this season all the way out.
And so two more minutes left, and the other game
(01:39:47):
that's going on is in Arizona. I told you that
the Cardinals had it wrapped up. There's still time on
the clock.
Speaker 2 (01:39:52):
There's four minutes ago, but it's a forty to twenty
four lead for Arizona against San Francisco. So that is
all butt done with four minutes to go. We'll get
to some NFL Draft stuff in a bit, But every
week throughout the regular season, Carry Rhoades would break down
a play, tell you how it happened and why it happened.
And Week eighteen is no different. It's a segment we
like to call roak.
Speaker 1 (01:40:13):
Huge hit, Mike Carry Roads fast times when Carrie.
Speaker 2 (01:40:17):
Roads all right, this takes us crazy as it is
Carrie thirty six seconds left and you think the Tampa
Bay Buccaneers are going to take a knee as they're
up eights with the football at their own thirty two
yard line. Oken treer, Mone Frere. Mike Evans has some
records to break and some incentives to get. Here's how
(01:40:38):
it sounded.
Speaker 13 (01:40:39):
Evans how deploys to the right in the slot. Now
in motion, Mike Evans drifts over to the left slot.
Baker Mayfield shotgun. They know what we're gonna do to
Baker Mayfield looks those of all catball Heavans. He's got
it to the forty yard line. What thousand plus Mike
Evans eleven seasons in a row.
Speaker 1 (01:40:57):
How about the Buccaneers at number thirteen?
Speaker 2 (01:41:00):
Gene Decker Off in ninety eight Rock Buccaneers Radio Network
with the call So on a play where we all
know Mike Evans is getting the football, because it's the
only reason that the Buccaneers would be lining up in
a shotgun position, how do the Saints not stop Mike
Evans from getting his record breaker today? I think they
were compliant here. I think they were lining up.
Speaker 3 (01:41:24):
This may have been even discussed the way it looks,
but I mean to break down the play in general,
it's eleven personnel. They run an option route with Mike
Evans in the slot there. He just runs a little
five yard out, catches the ball in the void. I
mean the other look at the players, they're kind of
just running around. That's not really highly contested at all.
He catches it, he gets down, gets the yardist that
(01:41:45):
he needs, gets to catch. Big play for Mike Evans
and Tampa Bay obviously for them, and the fact that
they had the guts the whereabouts to actually make this
happen was a big deal for Tampa.
Speaker 2 (01:41:57):
Are you shaying the Shaints pull the far Arvin Strahan
on us? Yeah, Evans is eleven straight thousand yard season,
tying Jerry Rice and his three million dollar bonus. Yeah,
it's not much competing going on there.
Speaker 4 (01:42:09):
Dan.
Speaker 3 (01:42:09):
It's a very vanilla option route by him, and you know, look,
look how far off the guy is on the slot
receiver and he catches it and he gets down, gets
the yard.
Speaker 2 (01:42:20):
It's he needed five yards exactly. He needed five yards
and his man is thirteen yards deep. There's a guy
thirteen yards deep, there's a guy ten yards deep, and
then there's a guy eight yards deep. There is no
one five yards deep, not at all. So then Evans
goes and gets the first down and the rest is history,
(01:42:41):
and history is gonna repeat itself. It's gonna be one
of those one of those DB's, or it's gonna be
a receiver that needs to catch it and they're gonna
be highly contested and won't get it, and then they'll
want to fight Brett far up after giving the sack
up at the end. I mean, are you down with
this with the Saints just being like, all right, go ahead,
get it to a divisional opponents of games over? I
mean the crazy part about the Saints and Tampa Bay.
Speaker 3 (01:43:04):
They have history where you know, Mike Evans has fought
with Marshall Latimore, so there's history there, but he's not
there anymore.
Speaker 2 (01:43:12):
Latimore yep, yep, don't get the catch, big play fast
times with Carrie Rose. Oh good, great stuff. Whether player,
I mean, everybody knew that it was happening. Of course,
I would have put eleven guys on Mike Evans and
I would have just said, go ahead, a score the touchdown,
go ahead, hand it off to Bucky Irving or Rashad White,
go ahead, score the touchdown. Mike Evans is not getting
(01:43:35):
these five yards? Instead denied them. No, damn, you're you're screws. Huh.
All right, well, I think that and your point is
your point is well made. I think that if you
thought that the Saints were putting anything into this, that
they would have, and that if this play then worked
that well, the Buccaneers would just run it every single time.
(01:43:56):
If you know that Mike Evans is getting the football
in that scenario and getting eight yards, it would be
the only play in the in the playbook. My my
playbook would be one page, and that's all it would
be if that play worked out as well as it
did in those late seconds.
Speaker 3 (01:44:08):
You know it's funny, is we there was a there's
a coverage where and I've seen this on really great
receivers where they would line up and put two defensive
backs on the line of scrimmage and press him like
it's a part like it's a part return, like when
you double rice the guy that covers the gunner, the gunner.
Speaker 2 (01:44:30):
They would do that in games. I'm saying, mega to prevent,
to prevent stats and that's in the game.
Speaker 3 (01:44:35):
Oh just catching the ball, period, because they only have
a number one receiving exactly, and there's.
Speaker 2 (01:44:43):
And that's that's not what the Saints did. They did
the exact opposite exactly. All right, So there is the
Cardinals and Niners are still playing, Jets and Dolphins are
still playing. But really there's just one game left in
the NFL regular season to seventy one of two seventy two.
To give us an update of what's happened in the
game so far far today in how the playoffs look,
let's go to Monci Bilanios at the news desk with
(01:45:06):
the latest.
Speaker 6 (01:45:07):
I know you don't care about the Dolphins and the Jets,
but I picked the Jets over the Dolphins against Steve Hartman,
and I need that to happen, so like I still
can't you know what I'm saying, I.
Speaker 2 (01:45:17):
Actually care as well. I'm gonna tell you a reason why,
and we've talked about it on the show here. I
have a three and a half year old son, and
I've told you guys, who is like adoptive favorite team
is now the Dolphins. It's the Dolphins. And he has
no idea that the Dolphins. In fact, he told this
preschool teacher on Friday that the Seahawks were playing tonight
(01:45:40):
on Friday, which I loved. They weren't but I still loved.
But he likes. He says his favorite team so the
Seahawks and Dolphins, and you know, wants the Dolphins. And
I now find myself like today, I was kind of like,
come on, Dolphins, come on something. He has no concept
of Hutua or anybody is or what the Dolphins are.
He just knows the logo and just knows the Dolphins.
(01:46:02):
But like, in my heart a little bit, I'm.
Speaker 5 (01:46:04):
Like, yeah, still sweet spot, Yeah yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:46:07):
Because he's all of a sudden just started like I
bought him a Dolphins sweatshirt Caia finally wore yesterday after
having it for three months. But who's cool out So yeah,
So I wouldn't say I don't care about the Dolphins.
I do a little bit, little bit.
Speaker 3 (01:46:20):
I appreciate it now because when he turns five, you
realize they stink.
Speaker 5 (01:46:23):
Yeah, he's gonna be like, Dad, why did you let
me be this fan? What is going on? Well Aaron Rodgers?
Is this his last game? Who knows?
Speaker 6 (01:46:33):
But he has thrown four touchdown passes, bringing his total
I believe to five ZHO three. The latest one to
Breise Hall and according to reports is he took that
ball to the sideline handed it off to a staffer.
Speaker 5 (01:46:46):
Might be his last touchdown pass. Who knows.
Speaker 6 (01:46:49):
The Jets are on top of the Dolphins thirty two
twenty with less than two minutes to go in the game.
The Cardinals are just another rushing touchdown. It looks like
who forty six to twenty against the forty nine Ers,
also less than two minutes to go. In this one,
The Seahawks had a thirty to twenty five win over
the Rams. The Rams dropped to the four seed after losing.
Speaker 5 (01:47:10):
To the Seahawks.
Speaker 6 (01:47:11):
In this game, the Chargers beat the Raiders thirty four
to twenty. Justin Herbert through for three hundred and forty
six yards and two touchdowns, but tight end Brock Bowers
off Las Vegas.
Speaker 5 (01:47:20):
I believe ended with the one hundred.
Speaker 6 (01:47:21):
And twelve catches this season, officially passing the Leak Neighbors,
which I think maybe Ryan was talking about the NFL
record for the most receptions by a rookie in NFL history,
and he caught a touchdown at the end of the
game to bring the Raiders.
Speaker 5 (01:47:33):
Within a closer loss the Broncos.
Speaker 6 (01:47:35):
They crushed the Chiefs thirty eight forty bow Knicks put
on a show twenty six of twenty nine, three hundred
and twenty one yards and four touchdowns. Denver is headed
to the playoffs for the first time since twenty fifteen.
The over under on this game was forty and a half,
and so anyone just hoping for a field goal from
the Chiefs, I'm probably like, you, guys.
Speaker 1 (01:47:56):
Can't do it.
Speaker 2 (01:47:57):
Can't do it.
Speaker 5 (01:47:58):
So the AMC playoff pick sure is.
Speaker 6 (01:48:00):
Said the Chiefs have the number one seed up bye,
so number seven seed Broncos taking on number two seed
Bills in Buffalo, number six seed Steelers taking on number
three seed Ravens in Baltimore, and number five seed Chargers
taking on number four seed Texans in Houston.
Speaker 5 (01:48:14):
The NFC we still have some things to figure out.
Earlier today, the Patriots.
Speaker 6 (01:48:18):
Took down the Bills twenty three to sixteen, and then
after the game they fired their head coach to Rod
Mayo after one season. The Eagles, they beat the Giants
twenty to thirteen, and the Bears walked it off with
the fifty one yard field goal to defeat the Packers
twenty two to twenty one. So we do know that
the Packers are going to be the seventh seed and
they're going to visit the number two seed Eagles.
Speaker 5 (01:48:36):
We know that much.
Speaker 2 (01:48:37):
And I can tell you this. I'm gonna predict it.
That's going to be the Sunday night game next week.
Next week, that will be the Sunday night playoff game
the Marquee I hope, some Packers Eagles, I hope.
Speaker 5 (01:48:46):
So that's the right move, definitely.
Speaker 6 (01:48:48):
And the Buccaneers have clinched their fourth straight NFC South title.
They had to come back and beat the Saints twenty
seven to nineteen. Give it up for Mike Evans, who
is the first player to reach one thousand receiving yards
in his first eleven in seasons time.
Speaker 5 (01:49:01):
Jerry Rice's record crazy, yes, very crazy. Back to you guys.
Speaker 3 (01:49:05):
I got to pull the question to all you guys
right now, Dan Moncey, Ryan as well. If this is
Aaron Rodgers's last game, would you rather see him come
back for one more year or call it quits?
Speaker 2 (01:49:16):
Right now? Dan, you go first. I wish he'd call
it quits. Quits, yep.
Speaker 6 (01:49:21):
I think call it quits because it's gonna be hard to,
you know, live up to the expectation.
Speaker 2 (01:49:28):
I say, let's run it back, take the show.
Speaker 9 (01:49:36):
We do the song and dance every season there at
the end of it, I say, he keeps doing it
until he's fifty. Every every last game of the season,
he's like, yeah, I think this will be it, and
then he comes.
Speaker 6 (01:49:46):
Back next what's gonna happen is next year, halfway through
the season, when somebody gets hurt and they need a quarterback,
He's gonna come off the couch Joe Flacco's status and
go and save the day.
Speaker 2 (01:49:55):
I think he'll be in a cave.
Speaker 5 (01:49:57):
There's no way to reach him, so he'll be He
won't show on.
Speaker 2 (01:50:03):
Absolutely not. What's done is done.
Speaker 6 (01:50:07):
Oh just justin Adam Shefter tweeting that running back Blake
Rum fractured his forearm.
Speaker 2 (01:50:12):
Yes he did.
Speaker 5 (01:50:13):
Yeah, that's unfortunate.
Speaker 2 (01:50:15):
That's breaking news literally, unfortunately literally. Yeah, those are the
casualties that you try to avoid. And the RAMS again
bench most of the starters for a situation like that,
but now don't have the backup to Kyen Williams. I
think you could be seeing Kyen Williams with the twenty
seven carry game the next time out, and whoever then
is going to fill in as the backup would get
about one or two carries. All right, they're shaking hands
(01:50:36):
in Arizona. Yes, final forty seven to twenty four Cardinals
top the Niners, and now they're shaking hands with the
Jets and Dolphins as well. Let's just thirty seconds remain.
Shortly after our show, our podcast will be going up.

posted right after we get off the air. Our Week eighteen,
for the final time this season, are MVPs plus All
look ahead to Monday Night football and I'll look ahead
to the NFL Draft that's next year. On Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (01:51:14):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (01:51:16):
Radio, Fox Sports Red Zone Radio, our last regular season edition,
Carry and I will be with you throughout the NFL playoffs.
He has Carry Roads. I'm Dan Byer. It is twenty
twenty five and patiently awaiting the playoff schedule, which will
usually come out in the latter stages of tonight's Sunday
(01:51:38):
night game. We know who is playing who, except for
the fact we don't know as the first round by
in homefield advantage in the NFC, and then the loser
of the Vikings Lions game will be at the La
Rams for a wild card game next weekend. But the
other matchups we know. In the AFC, the Chiefs got
to buy. It's Broncos at the Bills, Teelers at the Ravens,
Chargers at the Texans win, those games will be played.
(01:52:00):
I don't know. I'm guessing Steelers Ravens will probably get
a primetime spot, maybe a Saturday night sort of game.
The Texans have always fallen victim victim to being first
game on playoff weekend Saturday afternoon, and I think it's
gonna happen again. I think that they're gonna end up
posting that game on Saturday that we see so much.
I could be wrong, but it seems like it would
(01:52:21):
be a very Chargers Texans sort of spot to start
out the playoffs. But we'll find out the full schedule
later on tonight.
Speaker 3 (01:52:28):
Yeah, they did, they did well last year in that spot.
The Texans came out and put on the show that.
Speaker 2 (01:52:33):
The FLA led Browns took him to the house twice
on Pick six's. They put on a show that day.
But yeah, that game sounds about right.
Speaker 3 (01:52:41):
And I mean, as these matchups start to, you know,
kind of take place and form in the way that
it's that it's taking place right now, I mean, what's
one of these opening day games in the playoffs?
Speaker 2 (01:52:53):
Are you most excited to see? Dan? I was most
excited to see Packers Eagles, But now the Jordan Love
situation and I don't I just don't know how great
Green Bay is playing right now if it was about
a month ago and today's game against the Bears is
no factor into it, but I would probably I'll just
say Packers and Eagles because of that, Although I would
(01:53:14):
have been higher on the matchup about three or four
weeks ago. Got it? Yeah, yeah, And that's what I
thought too.
Speaker 3 (01:53:19):
I mean when I saw that they fail to that
seven seed to play the Eagles, I mean that that
could be a really sexy matchup. And the fact that
Jordan Love is now kind of injured and you lose
Kristin Watson that kind of takes away from it a
little bit.
Speaker 2 (01:53:33):
I'll tell you. I'll tell you another one that I
actually I think Denver can give Buffalo a run for
their money. You do, Yeah, I think Denver's Denver's defense
is legit, and Buffalo's defense has shown some weaknesses in
the past. And I don't think you're gonna stop Denver's
offense completely because I don't think Buffalo's defense is capable
(01:53:53):
of doing that. So if Denver's defense, if Nick Benito
and those guys get after Josh allence not easy to do,
will be excite.
Speaker 13 (01:54:00):
Man.
Speaker 2 (01:54:01):
It's home game in Buffalo. But it's not like Denver's
not used to conditions and weather. So I think you
could see something with the Broncos and Bills in that
two to seven matchup. The Let's keep Joe Burrow out
of the playoffs which is legit, like that's a whole deal.
But maybe maybe you didn't want to face the Broncos.
Maybe that's the case. I mean, thirty eight nothing when
the Chiefs didn't even really try today is not something
(01:54:23):
to hang your hat on. But Denver, to me, has
proved in other instances that, yeah, maybe they're worthy of something.
Be careful what you wish for. Yeah, exactly. Absolutely. We'll
take a look at the NFL Draft fallout plus tonight's
sun It out of Fair between the Vikings and Lions.
But first, for the final time this regular season, our
NFL MVPs for Week eighteen, it's.
Speaker 4 (01:54:48):

Tyler Coklan and that his career touchdown pass number five
hundred for an hour in.
Speaker 4 (01:58:19):
Rogers Q one O four to three Jets Radio Network.
The most valuable players.
Speaker 1 (01:58:25):
Gettle for everybody. This is Fox Football Sunday.
Speaker 2 (01:58:30):
Just read a tweet that hit me right smack dab
in the hearts. Tom peliserra the NFL Network, pointing out
that fifteen teams won double digit games in the NFL
this season. Fourteen of them went to the playoffs, the
other one Seattle Seehawks on the outside looking in. And
just when I think it's bad, imagine being four and
thirteen and picking sixth in the NFL draft. That's what
(01:58:53):
the Raiders will end up doing. So the Raiders at
one point were dancing, possibly with the number one overall pick.
They get a couple of wins down the stretch. They
lose today against the Chargers, but they're four and thirteen,
puts them sixth in the draft order, behind Jacksonville at five.
New England again, who fired Rod Mayo today as their
head coach after their win against Buffalo at four, knocking
(01:59:15):
them from the number one spot. Giants will pick three,
Browns will pick two, and the Tennessee Titans are on
the clock with the first overall selection in the NFL draft.
Speaker 3 (01:59:24):
So I guess that's in the end of the Mayo King. Huh,
I think, uh, what's his names?
Speaker 2 (01:59:31):
Lebis? What Lebis? The Mayo?
Speaker 13 (01:59:33):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (01:59:33):
Yes, Will Levis, that is correct. I know you're talking about.
Speaker 13 (01:59:36):
Man.
Speaker 2 (01:59:38):
They both could have been dunked with Mayo exactly. Will
Levis would have loved it. Drod Mao wouldn't have loved it.
But yes, the Will Levis era likely coming to an end. No,
maybe you'll stick around as a backup, but that's your
NFL draft. And well, we think the Titans will go
quarterback at number one, the Browns at number two likely
quarterback as well.
Speaker 1 (01:59:59):
And that's all, you know.
Speaker 2 (02:00:01):
Yeah, a whole other situation to deal with in Cleveland.
All right, So that's it for the regular season except
for the Vikings Alliance tonight in Detroit. Who gets the
number one seed in the NFC? Kerry Rose, there's got
to be the Lions. Lion's gonna pull it off tonight.
I think it's gonna be the Lions as well, but
it won't be easy. That's not an understatement. We'll talk
to you in the playoffs here on Fox
