Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio, A happy Sunday to you.
As you heard French Open going on a little baseball
in London. We got a game two tonight, but yet
it's Caitlin Clark still dominating the headlines. Welcome it as
we are broadcasting live for the tyreq dot com studios.
Tyreq dot com will help you get their unmatched selection,
(00:22):
fast free shipping, free road as a protection, and over
ten thousand recommended installers. Tyraq dot com the way tire
buying should be. Isaac lohing crowd will be keeping us
up to date of what is happening in Paris in
that final, plus the baseball game between the Mets and Phillies,
which as you heard, is now tied up at three apiece.
So much to get to. But for the second straight week,
(00:45):
we are starting not in the NBA, not with the
NBA Finals going on carrier roads. We are starting in
the w NBA. And this one doesn't even really have
anything to do with the w NBA, as it has
to do with the Olympics, but it does have something
to do with women's basketball. Caitlan Clark reportedly left off
of the USA basketball roster, so she will not join
(01:08):
the twelve other Americans in Paris for the Olympic Games.
And it's a topic that I feel when I read
online is ninety percent they can't believe that this has occurred,
that USA Basketball would leave Caitlin Clark off of the roster. Now,
what I don't know is is that my algorithm is
(01:31):
that who I'm following. Does everybody that I follow follow
a lot of sports media personalities? Is everybody in lockstep?
Or is it truly you know, ninety percent of people
feel that Caitlan Clark should be on the US Olympic team.
And I'm curious on your thoughts. Do you believe that
Caitlin Clark should be on the US Olympic team? And
(01:52):
do you think it is ninety ten for what I'm seeing,
because I don't see as many people. I see very
very few people say absolutely not, she should not be there,
because even the ones that are saying that she shouldn't
be there are still couching it in some way. Where
do you see all of this Caitlin Clark outrage falling?
Speaker 2 (02:12):
Yeah, it's I'm in that ten percent, But I also
I'm in that ten percent just with a little caveat
as well, obviously the same thing you're saying. It's I've
seen great players left off the Olympic team before. I mean,
for a prime example, obviously the big one was the
(02:36):
ninety two Dream Team, right, Why Kristin Laytoner made the
team over Shaquille O'Neal, Right, Yes, and Isaiah Thomas was
left off. Yeah, we know that, but I mean just
the college player coming into the league. So I'm just
preparing it for that reason. And obviously when you look
at the college careers, Kristin Laytner was probably one that
should go. He was the most decorated college basketball player
(02:59):
for a long time, shacks a phenom. We know that
he would have fit right on in that team and
number one pick as well, I mean overall going into
the league, and so you know how dominant he was
going to be, and so many people were upset that
he didn't go over Christian. So we talk about that
whole thing with and I'm going to tie it into
what we're talking about with Kaitlyn Clark with is it
(03:19):
because people thought that Christian Laytner wasn't better than Shaq
or was there some racial undertone that went into that
situation going as well, with you know, you know, being
the Great White Hope situation with Christian Laytoner going in,
and then you have Shack, this kind of wild card
number one type player that's going to be a phenom
in the league. When you bring those stories to the surface,
(03:41):
it can be kind of similar with this situation. Minus
obviously there's nobody that would have been on the Olympic
team other than Kaitlyn Clark in that situation. But the
twelve that they got going, they are the best players
in the world, sure, and Kaitlyn Clark proved that yet
on that level. So obviously when it comes to playing
(04:03):
and picking the best twelve to go, they probably got
it right. Now. As far as her being there because
she's because she's the Kaitlyn Clark Show, I don't know
if that helps or hurts anyway that situation. When you
go to represent your country, you want it to be
all harmonious, yeah, and beautiful and the celebration of the
women going to get a gold medal for our country.
(04:25):
If Caitlyn Clark would have been there, and maybe she
goes down the line if somebody gets hurt, but initially
just the animosity that's already been ruined with that situation
would not have helped this situation at all.
Speaker 1 (04:36):
No, and that is part of why Christine Brennan wrote
that the role of Caitlyn Clark within Team USA was
one of the reasons why she was left off is
because they were worried there would be backlash that she
would only have ten minutes per game. Now, in this
world that we live in and in strong opinions, and
(04:59):
you're this side or that side, and something that you
want to get into, I'm in the middle on this
and the reason that I'm in the middle is I
do believe that she but I'm more to one side,
but I'm not as polarizing. I do believe that she
should have been on the US Olympic team, and we've
even seen it with the men's team to this point
(05:20):
where you're not taking the twelve best, you're taking the
twelve that fit. And the reason you're doing that is
because sometimes the twelve best don't have that chemistry. Sure,
you don't always have the Kobe Bryant willing to say,
all right, Carmelo and Lebron, you guys score, I will
be the defender and I will lock down and I
(05:43):
will set the tone. That helps a lot when you
have someone do, a player of that caliber with those accolades,
being able to in accomplishments, being able to do that
makes it so much easier on everyone else. That year
is the exception. It's more of how do we fit
these pieces in? How do we fit these roles? And
I would even say with the men's game, when we're
(06:05):
looking at this summer for their team, there was even
conversations popping up about are people going to realize that
Anthony Edwards is Option one A on this team now
like during the playoffs, Like now it's going to be
going to be his team, that there's going to have
to be some right of passage was the term that
you used last week, which was perfect. And I think
the same thing here. I think she should have been
(06:26):
on the team because what I think would have happened,
Carrie is we would have had all of this drama
that has been surrounding the WNBA in Caitlin Clark's role
in it squashed to some degree. And what Christy Brennan
is reporting is that things are so petty and that
the jealousy is so rich, or that they are so
(06:49):
fearful of how people respond to Caitlin Clark, that it
wasn't worth the risk of the possible backlash. The risk
to me was, let's bring Caitlyn Clark in with these
eleven other superstars, and let's have these eleven other superstars
embrace her or she work with them, and all of
a sudden, you know what. There isn't the rivalry between
(07:11):
Caitlyn Clark and Brianna Stewart. Even though we had the
argument of who is the better collegiate player and who
is the better player, There is no animosity between Asia
Wilson now who does have a shoe in Kitlyn Clark
having a shoe. There's none of that because you know
what their teammates, they're playing together, We see them together.
That was the opportunity that I think was missed was
(07:32):
that we had an opportunity to erase a lot of
the negativity where we think the entire WNBA, including some
of her teammates, are against her, to show her that
the best in the game welcome her, and that Caitlin
Clark would also have the opportunity and she I don't
think that she has done this to not always be
about me. If she has ten minutes to play and
(07:53):
she only comes in and shoots threes. You know, then
that's what it is. That's her role. That shows that
she is also willing to accept the role that was
given to her, and it's not having the ball in
her hands all the time and taking all the shots.
I don't even think that that's even a huge narrative,
but I think that would help along the way. That's
the opportunity that I think was missed was to squash
(08:14):
all of this. And while she isn't one of the best,
the twelve best, we haven't always done that anyway. This
would be an opportunity to kill some of that narrative.
As crazy as it sounds, I actually compared to Travis
Kelcey and Taylor Swift. Okay, where all of a sudden,
now you have this crossover of all the Taylor Swift
fans are becoming Chiefs fans. Maybe there's some football Chiefs
(08:35):
fans who are getting into Taylor Swift now all of
a sudden. If you're a Sabrina, you an Escu fan,
and you see her and Caitlyn Clark being like super
pals in Paris, and you know, guess what, they're insepara
you know, like like you're like, oh, I love Caitlyn
Clark because she loves Sabrina, or I love now I
love Sabrina because like you miss those opportunities. So that's
why I think she should have been on it, because
(08:55):
I think it would have squashed everything.
Speaker 2 (08:57):
I'm glad that you've been optimistic about that in a
way that it would be that easily squashed. I mean,
obviously it's been.
Speaker 1 (09:06):
If I like this reality with my eyes closed, your
heads over my eyes.
Speaker 2 (09:10):
You are, you are. But I love that though you
know I'm an optimistic guy as well, So Dan, I
love that take. I just I mean, it's it just
would have set up precedence again that we're putting somebody
on the team that's not deserve it. Now, it doesn't
have to be the twelve best, but if you look
at you talk about that ninety two Dream Team or
even that the Redeemed team with Kobe and those guys,
(09:32):
if you look at those twelve guys, all those twelve
guys were like, even though they're not the best, the
twelve best, they're like the top twenty in the world.
And so then you start fitting from that top twenty
to need and that's still a little different, right, So
I would have I hope that this thing gets situated,
and I hope that it becomes a harmonious situation overall.
(09:54):
But putting her on this team this year, with all
the turmoil, all the turmoil and all the stuff that's
going on right now, I just don't think it would
have fit well. And obviously it's been backlash with you know,
people and other women in that sport already. Dan, I
don't know, but I'm with you. I hope I hope
they get it, get its all really soon enough. There
(10:14):
is the the.
Speaker 1 (10:17):
The fervor is maybe the word over This whole sort
of topic is crazy to me because we knew it
was going to be a topic. I didn't think that
people cared as much about it. When the US, you know,
beats Finland forty eight, it'd be a lot, you know,
like it's you know, what, what are we gonna do?
(10:37):
Like they're like, are you going to tune in to
watch the USA women's basketball team? Probably because you're a
hoop head, you know, and I'll check it out. And
it's everybody else that now may not do so because
she's not on the team, Like, if you already know
the outcome, you already know that the US is probably
(10:59):
going to win. And that's been that's been the other
that's been one of the predominant opinions on Twitter of like,
well I'm not going to watch now. Now. That seems
to be kind of a selfish stance, but there is
some truth to the fact of the piece that I
was interested in is not going to be there, So
(11:19):
I may not, I may not take as much interest
into this sort of event.
Speaker 2 (11:25):
I don't.
Speaker 1 (11:25):
I don't know if it's fair for the viewers to
to take hostage, if you will, to say like she
must be on or we're not going to watch, because
it's quite the decision, and I'm sure NBC and all
of the broadcast partners would love to have her on there.
I don't think that's the reason that you should be
picking a roster. I told you the reason why I
thought that it should be. But again, when you're winning,
(11:47):
going to be winning games by forty points and fifty points,
maybe there are other decisions that you end up having
to take into account.
Speaker 2 (11:56):
Yeah, me as you're right, me as a hoophead, I mean,
I love you know in theory, right, the position or
the spot that she would have taken would have been
Diana Tarasi or Juwe Lloyd or Sabrina and uschool right,
like they're cemented in those positions anyway. Right, So then
(12:17):
it's just almost as if you're adding Caitlin Clark as
a charity case anyway. So even for her, obviously there's
going to be a point where she can come back
and she'll be on the Olympic team and she'll win
her goal if she wants. But my initial feeling is
that if she was on this team.
Speaker 1 (12:35):
You know, it's funny because you started out with the
great example of the Shack versus Christian Laightner, and I
would say, and you know, even at that time, aluntil Morning,
you know, was a player and was actually taking ahead
of Latner in that draft. But like I would say
that Christian Latner earned that spot, you know, for what
(12:56):
you said, for like what he accomplished, and there is
and another another player that in women's college basketball that
would earn that spot onto the to the women's team.
It's just not how the women do it? Do you
think race again is the whole deal in this? I
think sometimes so especially at that time.
Speaker 2 (13:17):
So right, like in that ninety two team, with that
ninety two dream team, that Duke team was either loved
or hated. But when you look at the Duke team,
they would look at it from a racial standpoint, right.
So even at that point where say that that the
ninety one that that that Duke team against the Fab
five of of Michigan all one, all black team, you know,
(13:39):
Duke was put you know, I don't want to say
predominantly white, but you know wh it was.
Speaker 1 (13:43):
It was more of both two of the most popular
players late white.
Speaker 2 (13:47):
Yeah, and so people took that stands a lot of times,
and it comes to you know, they have all the
best things. They have the great academics, and they also
can play basketball. Like it's just a connotation that came
with that. Where with Michigan, right, it was like they
had the same thing they had you had to I mean,
I'm not gonna say they got their grades and did
the whole schooling thing the right way, because those guys
were going to the league, right Sure, but you look
(14:09):
at academics that Michigan has that has to be taking place,
that has to be done, the skill the players obviously,
and then you look at the color of them, and
then you know they were the baggy shorts, and some
people didn't like that from the just the just from
a standpoint of not even looking at the basketball or
the quality of hoops are playing. They were a really
good team, but they looked at the exterior and what
(14:30):
it looked like. The aesthetic of it, and the aesthetic
of Duke is prestigious, right, and so just the when
you look at that from the connotation of white, black,
privileged non privilege, it always comes into play.
Speaker 1 (14:42):
When you look at ninety two as well, you had
Bird and Magic on their way out, like Bird wasn't
gonna play anymore, and you know exactly, but you had
the opportunity for Bird, Magic and Jordan all play on
the same team, and that was really kind of the
headline of that. Christian Latoner probably wasn't going to be
on an Olympic team after that killing, Yeah, probably exactly.
(15:02):
And so Caitlyn Clark, you expect to at some point,
So can you be really really broken hearted over about No,
she'll be She'll be on an Olympic team when it's
here in la in twenty twenty eight. There's very the
likelihood of that, I would I would say, is high
so missing out now? Like her time will come, but
it is It is the fans who are sitting there
for sure, Yeah, just wringing their hands and cracking their knuckles.
(15:26):
And again, I may be I may be blind, it
may be naive, I may be too hopeful in that scenario.
But I would have thought that to have Caitlyn Clark
not always be the center of attention, because I don't
maybe she would have been, and maybe it would have overshadowed.
I choose to believe that it would be the other way.
When you're only playing ten minutes, you only have this
little bit of window, and I don't think there would
(15:47):
be as much backlash when you're up eighty to you know,
thirty eight in the second half of a game. I
just don't.
Speaker 2 (15:53):
But I could be wrong, Dan, And think about those
ten minutes she plays, right, like, the story's still going
to be those ten minutes, and it takes away from
what the team is actually doing in that case as well.
It's a loaded thing.
Speaker 1 (16:04):
But yeah, it's but if she didn't get into the
game until they were up eighty to thirty eight, right,
you know, then it's you know, then the point is moving.
Speaker 2 (16:11):
Now.
Speaker 1 (16:11):
People will be like, wellhy, can't you get in there earlier?
You know exactly, But it'll go away. He's carry her

put a bow a period if you will, on our
Caitlin Clark discussion and then we'll get in the Game
two of the NBA Finals. Pat tweets in You're wrong, Dan.
(18:12):
Caitlin Clark being on the team is a popularity contest
twelve best around the team could number eleven or twelve
have been other people, Yes, but she's not even top
fifteen in the NBA. Give it a break. You're part
of the group keeping the chatter going on. The group
that I'm in is very, very large because everybody is
talking about it most everybody is in our world, and
(18:35):
our world is a sports world. And I would even
say Carrie that it bleeds over to people who aren't
maybe as interested in sports, and Kitlin Clark brings those
people in. I do feel that sometimes people use the
NBC angle and TV for their own agenda. This would
be a ratings win. How stupid of NBC. I don't
(18:56):
we hear that a lot with matchups? That would be
awful for the TV networks. Who cares if your team's
in the NBA Finals, your teams in the World Series?
Who cares what the TV ratings are going to be.
I don't think anybody's ever cared, So I feel that
argument is always like a full argument because I don't
think people really care on what TV ratings are.
Speaker 2 (19:16):
But I just.
Speaker 1 (19:17):
Will say, for where we are in this world, where
Caitlyn Clark seems to be on an Island and there
is so much drama going against Caitlin Clark, and it
feels like she's swimming upstream. I think putting her on
this team so may look at is there's another there's
another break for Caitlyn Clark. Caitlin Clark hasn't gotten any breaks.
(19:39):
I mean, she's she earned the number one overall pick,
she earned the scoring title, She's earned all of that,
and just the jealousy of others have put her in
this spot where maybe she isn't as well liked in
the NBA. The race thing is is unique, and the
reason I think that that it's not as much of
a race thing as people want it to be is
because of her her team Kate Martin, who is a
(20:02):
member of the Las Vegas Hases, who was on that
same IOWA team who went to both national championships, and
she is absolutely loved by her teammates. They did the
prank tour where they left her at a steakhouse and
the bus pulled the way and she's running like like
she has been fully embraced. She's white, she was on
that same team. It's I think it's all of the
(20:23):
attention that has gone on the Caitlin Clark, which is
the reason for the jealousy. Maybe that she's put on
the team because of that, that jealousy builds up. Maybe,
But I think it could work the other way. That's
that was just my thought on it. Even if she's
not top fifteen, top you know, sixteen or whatever, she's
top forty, I'll tell you that much. You know, she
had thirty the other night. So yeah, I Pat disagrees
(20:46):
with me. I don't know if Pat is on your side,
but Pat's not on my side.
Speaker 2 (20:52):
He made that very very clear, very clear, very clear. Yeah,
I mean it's yeah, it's what you said about like
the Kate Martin stuff like, yeah, she was on that team,
and it's you know, and she is white, but there
is a white privileged conversation that happens a lot, and
and Caitlyn's both of those. As far as talking into
(21:15):
that situation, being put on the pedestal by her own play,
like she had to she had to go after go
out and get that for sure, Like it's not a
that wasn't given to her, but the pedestal of step
into a place and thinking that you're supposed to be
on teams and be certain things is an attribute to that.
Speaker 1 (21:35):
If she was on the Olympic team, yeah, and put
on the Olympic team and she didn't deserve it, I
would think that that would be the first and I
could be wrong, and you know, I feel that's the
first part of the white privilege where she got something
that maybe she didn't deserve. Probably that would be the
(21:56):
that would be the first one where it was because
she it deserved to be the number one overall picture
was you know, I mean, yeah, you know, like there's
all of that so that you know, the popularity in
that that comes along with it, like in terms of
like an actual privilege of getting something. I just don't
think that she's gotten a lot in the w NBA
except headaches and bruises from flagrant fowls. That's that's. That's
(22:22):
the other thing. Then after after that flagrant follows, she
had the worst game of her you know, of her
short w NBA career, and then after that she had
the thirty spot. All right, we're gonna get in to
the NBA finals. Let's jimp over to Isaac Low and Crown,
who gives us an update. I think it's kind of
changing a bit in Paris on the clay.
Speaker 3 (22:39):
Yes they are.
Speaker 5 (22:39):
It's the men's singles final of the French Open between
Carlos Acaraz of Spain and Alexander Zverev of Germany. Aqeraz
and zvere were tied at one set a piece after
the first two sets, then Zverev came back to win
in the third set seventy five today a two sets
(23:00):
to one lead, but in the fourth set all all
karras he now leads Verev five to one in the
fourth set, with Zverev leading the match two sets to one,
but again all Kara's only one game away from sending
it to a fifth and decisive set. Meanwhile, in London
right now, the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets tied
(23:23):
at three in the top of the sixth inning. Is
The Mets rallied from a three to nothing deficit with
three runs in the top half of the sixth inning
on an RBI double by Brandon nemo At a two
run single by j. D. Martinez. Again, Mets and Phillies
tied three to three now in the bottom half of
the seventh inning at London, England tonight at eight pm Eastern,
(23:43):
Game two of the NBA Finals from Boston, with the
Celtics leading the Dallas Mavericks one game to none. Finally,
in the NFL. On Saturday, Kansas City Chiefs receiver Rashie
Rice spoke publicly for the first time since being charged
with eight felony counts for his involvement in a six
vehicle crash on the Dallas area in March. On Saturday,
Rice addressed reporters while participating in a youth football camp
(24:08):
in Kansas City. Here's what he said, courtesy of w
d a F Television.
Speaker 6 (24:12):
I've learned so much from that. All I could do was,
you know, mature and continue to go from that. And
this is you know a stepman. You know, it's better direction.
Speaker 7 (24:20):
For a book further going forward to your journey.
Speaker 6 (24:26):
You know, it's been very important just because you know,
accidents stuff like that happened.
Speaker 2 (24:31):
But you know, all you can do, uh, it's kind
of move forward and you know.
Speaker 6 (24:36):
Walking around being the same person, chocky pot gips of that.
Everybody's got failure, your love and your great energy.
Speaker 5 (24:41):
No word yet on what drill Rice was conducting at
the youth football camp, but here's guessing it was not
defensive driving.
Speaker 1 (24:48):
Back to you, guys, Isaac hi, Ye, all right, you're
a former player.
Speaker 2 (24:57):
What do you say to.
Speaker 1 (24:58):
Is she Rice?
Speaker 2 (25:01):
Be careful, drive safe? I mean, no, these things, mistakes happen.
These kids are young. I've had young young situations happened
for me that you weren't as publicized. And so yeah,
you don't. I don't. I'm not quick to judge on
those things. But please be.
Speaker 1 (25:17):
Saying is this a segment that we need to do?
Speaker 8 (25:19):
No?
Speaker 2 (25:21):
Not right now, right now? All right.
Speaker 1 (25:24):
The Dallas Ravericks probably felt the same exact way about
talking about Game one. They just wanted to look at
the game two. I Game two is tonight in Boston,
Celtics and Mavericks. Celtics up one to ohero in the
best of seven series. And before we get your three
takeaways from Game one that lead into Game two tonight.
(25:45):
On a scale of one to ten, how surprised were
you that it was the one satured affair that it
turned out to be now that you're looking back on it,
one to ten on the scale, ten being the most surprised, Yeah,
being the least surprised.
Speaker 2 (26:02):
Five five. I felt Boston would come out and win
Game one, and I thought it'd be around like nine
nine points or so like in that rank. So yes,
a little surprised, but not as surprised.
Speaker 1 (26:15):
I felt that as it was happening, everybody was like,
of course, why was I so stupid to think that
Dallas would be come in, you know, Boston after this
rest when, by the way, everybody is talking about Dallas
and Dallas winning the series and Luca and aal Kyriees
going back to Boston. We talked about the Celtics brand
(26:36):
last week, which, by the way, our point was proved
when Danny Hurley and the Lakers hijacked the hype of
Game one of the NBA Finals. When that report came out, right,
we were talking more about who the Lakers head coach
would be than the Celtics trying to win a game
in the NBA Finals. But I think as the blowout
was happening, not how it happened, because how it happened,
(26:57):
I'm sure will be you know some of the points
you made, But it was just the fact of like, oh, yeah,
we probably should have seen this one coming. If there
was the real game that Dallas was gonna get, maybe
it is game two. People feel like you go in
and steal game one. But if Boston's sitting back and
just waiting and hearing all the talk about Dallas, and
I do think that even though Dallas had a five
(27:18):
games only a five game series against the Timberwolves, in
game five was a blowout. Those other four games got.
Speaker 2 (27:24):
A swung anyway.
Speaker 1 (27:25):
Yeah, yeah, and they were taxing, so there was some
energy expanded in that aspect. So I looking back as
it was happening, it's just like, yeah, this makes sense.
I think Game two is going to be a different
story tonight. I think Dallas has a really good shot
to win this game for his greatest Boston played in
game one. But my opinion means nothing. The opinion of
(27:46):
Carrie Rhoads is what actually matters. You're giving us our
three points about the NBA Finals heading into tonight's game
to carry take it away. Oh wait, we even got
a voice guy for.
Speaker 2 (27:58):
You, number one. Oh it's official now number one. For
the Dallas Mavericks to be able to bounce back in
game two. The keyword is poise, poise. Do I need
to smell it for you? P O I s E poise.
Speaker 9 (28:12):
Man.
Speaker 2 (28:13):
They got to settle down. They went to gain one
very anxious, a little scared moment. It looks looked a
little too big for them, and you know, Boston came
out with their experience, hit him in the mouth early,
got a big lead. When Porzingis came in, obviously gave
them that extra boost and never really look back. So
Dallas keyword number one is poise. Make sure they come
(28:34):
in and run their stuff, do what they did to
get to that point. I think that's the biggest key
going into game two. The number two thing like can
I get this? Can I get a second here? Number two?
Number two is I'm gonna say its name three times though, Kyrie, Kyrie, Kyrie.
Speaker 1 (28:51):
I'm just gonna write Kyrie.
Speaker 2 (28:52):
Here you go. He's been doing and saying and doing
doing this, saying all the right things. He's being the leader,
he's been keeping the guys POI. He's to go back
to that first word. But now it's time for him
to finally have a good game in Boston. It's been
a long time, he's only eleven in his last eleven.
It's time for him to have a dominant performance in
(29:14):
this game too, to give his team the real confidence
outside of the words of affirmation that he's been giving them.
So I want to see Kyrie aggressive and go out
and score the ball and have a really good game.
Speaker 3 (29:26):
Number three.
Speaker 2 (29:27):
And the third thing, which is a little bit of
an odd ball for I would say Dallas in this situation,
but I would say, don't take debaate. It's number three,
and I'm saying don't take debait towards Jason Tatum for
this third one, Jason Kidd came out with a very
controversial type of Yeah, let's state, let's hear it. Let's
(29:48):
hear that.
Speaker 1 (29:49):
He's the best player.
Speaker 9 (29:50):
So we're just looking at what he does defensively. He
picked up Luca full court, he got to the free
throw line, he did everything, and that's what you know,
your best player does.
Speaker 1 (30:06):
Gamesmanship, you know what I mean.
Speaker 2 (30:08):
So he came out and threw that at him, and
I think for the Boston Celtics, and it seems like
they said the right things. Yeah, you know, we're a
team and everybody's there this Jason's had the sacrifice. But
as an alpha and these two guys have been competing
with each other for a while to be that top dog.
Stay in the game plan for Boston Tatum, don't come
(30:28):
out and try to be super aggressive. But if he does,
I'd be happy with it for Dallas because I think
that would throw the Boston Celtics' greatest strength in this series,
and that's their multitude of guys that can score, not
just the one.
Speaker 1 (30:40):
This was Jason Tatum's response to that gamesmanship by Jason Kidd.
Speaker 9 (30:44):
When Jason Kidd was in here, he made a point
to say Jaylen Brown's a Celtics best player, which raised
my eyebrows.
Speaker 2 (30:50):
Obviously because of your status.
Speaker 1 (30:53):
What's your reaction to j kids saying that's no reaction.
Speaker 10 (30:59):
This is a team sport, right. We we understand that
we wouldn't we wouldn't be here if we didn't have
JB on our team. And we could say that for
a lot of guys, right, We've all played a part
and get into where we're at, and we understand that.
Speaker 1 (31:17):
You know, it is scientific, This is proven by science.
In fact, NBA players cannot admit that someone is better
than they are, even if they don't mean it, like
Tatum may actually believe Jalen Brown is better or that
he is better than Jaylen Brown. Yeah, believe in his
whole heart of hearts, there is no way that he
(31:39):
could say either way, like he if he actually did
think that Jalen Brown was better than him, he still
wouldn't be able to say it. Like these players aren't
able to lie or tell the truth. They will never
say that someone is better than them, whether they believe
it or not. So Jason Tatum instead of saying like
he could have played it off, were like, well, he
was right, he is our best player, and then we
(32:00):
would have all laughed it off. But no, he just
said it's a team sport, right, star Near impossible for
players to say that exactly.
Speaker 2 (32:08):
And so you know, there was a clip of them
in practice having a nice little conversation on the side,
Jason Tatum and Jaylen Brown's like they're like they're trying
to massage things in there. So it's this, this is
gonna be interesting. I want to see how Boston comes
out in game two and if they can keep that
same fervor used that word earlier that they had in
(32:28):
game one. So we'll see. I'm thinking Dallas bounces back today.
Speaker 1 (32:32):
Though you can't have nine assists as a team. Cannot
have nine assists because that is I mean, yeah, and
that's what Dallas had in game one. They had nine
total assists as a team. It's not good.
Speaker 2 (32:47):
No, Boston's game plan was evident. We're gonna let Kyrie
and Luca get theirs. Kyrie didn't get his, and so
that was the difference in the game. Carrie's three keys
for Game two of the NBA Finals. The other thing
that I that I'll just point out, and I know
that your your friends with him, and he is on
the on the wearing the green and white of the
(33:07):
Boston Celtics. Yeah, you're not going to get the buzz
that you got with Porzingis his first quarter in Game two, like.
Speaker 1 (33:15):
That is you don't have to I did not think Heck,
I told you that. I didn't think Porzingis is going
to play the series. And he comes out and he
has eleven points and is blocking shots and doing all
this other stuff. But you're not going to get that
sort of You're not going to get that. You had
Sam Hauser pickpocketing, and I watch Howser because he's a
Wisconsin He's from Wisconsin. He actually played in my high
(33:37):
school conference. Of course I'm thirty years older than he is.
But the so I keep an eye on, I mean,
pickpockets Luca and then he drains like a fadeaway three
in the corner. He's a part of their rotation. But
that doesn't happen, and it doesn't happen in the NBA Finals,
but it happened in Game one. Those are the things
that I don't think happened for Boston in Game two.
(33:59):
Now it's just up to Alice to do their part,
make sure that they have more than nine assists so
they don't let Porzingis, you know, explode like he did
in the first quarter.
Speaker 2 (34:07):
Yeah. Yeah, there'll be some strategic stuff that they have
to do to clean up. I mean, you can't switch,
and they might. We'll see I they do it again,
But you can't keep switching little guys on Porzingis. Theyre
lettinghim shoot that little face upshot. He's going to make that. Yeah,
he's Carry Roads. Hit him up Carry twenty five Roads.
You can find me at Dan Bayer on Fox. It
was a historic night in one American city. We're gonna tell.
Speaker 1 (34:27):
You what that is and we will let you know
where Danny Hurley was last evening. He's Carrier Roads. I'm
Dan Byer. That's next here on Fox Sports Radio.

I'm Dan Bayer. Crazy happenings in Chicago last night, Crazy
happenings in London right now. That's where we go across
the pond covering this London series between the Mets and Phillies.
Is our friend Bruce Greenberg.
Speaker 2 (35:03):
Bruce, how are you on this?
Speaker 1 (35:05):
I guess for you late Sunday for us on the
West Coast Sunday morning, how are things going to in
Mets and Phillies.
Speaker 7 (35:14):
Well, yeah, greetings from England. Good morning for you, good
evening for us here in the UK. At the moment,
we're going into the top of the eighth inning and
the Phillies are leading the Mets for to three. It's
been a good close game. It looked like it was
going to be a dreary old day for the Mets again.
They were trailing three nothing. Taiwan Walker was pitching a
(35:34):
nice two hitter, but he got pulled in the top
of the sixth and the Mets came through registering a
three spot in the top of the sixth inning to
equalized three to three. But here in the bottom of
the seventh David Dahl let off with a pitch hit
home run of solo blast, one string of the bath.
The Phillies back in the league for three. The attendance
(35:54):
today as well over fifty five thousand here at London Stadium,
which is of course the ground home stadium for the
West Ham United Hammers for all you Premier League fans
out there. But the Brits are enjoying themselves. They call
it rounders here in England. But yeah, of course it's
American baseball. You can probably all the music in the background.
(36:17):
They have all the usual things you would normally see
at an American baseball game. The Philly fanatic mister and
missus Mett, and they've been all They had a race,
you know, with the mascots around the pitches as well.
So it's been a fun day for the Britz here.
The weather is cooperated, no rain at all, a lot
(36:38):
of sunshine and actually right now as we're just going
into the evening hour of sixty m it's a little
cool this year in London.
Speaker 1 (36:46):
Little quick question, Bruce, how many how many American fans
made the trip for this series. Is it predominantly just
locals that have attended? Of these fifty.
Speaker 7 (36:54):
Thousand, I would guess it's about well as we would
say in England off and off, which translates to a
half and a half. Surprisingly, Yeah, the Phillies and Matt supporters,
they really travel well. And you've got a lot of
Americans here, but plenty of Britt's here and people I've
met some people covering the game, you know, media from
(37:16):
Germany and Hungary and all over Europe. So it's a
nice combination of foreigners Americans being foreigners in this game.
Of course locals as well.
Speaker 2 (37:28):
Bruce, one more quick question about that half and half
crowd of the brit of the brit side, how much
are how much of them are at the game for
a good time or are they they're just are they
real baseball purists as well?
Speaker 7 (37:44):
And that oh I think truth really, really, they're just
here for the entertainment, you know, and all of the
music and all of the hooplock that's around. Some of
the players, even in their press conferences, have said it
feels like an All Star game atmosphere, you know. Of course,
obviously it's a regular season game that does count, but
everybody's enjoying themselves and it's very entertaining, whereas if it
(38:07):
was a football or soccer match in the Premier League,
it would be a lot more serious.
Speaker 1 (38:12):
Really, well, you know it's working if Mets baseball is entertaining.
So Bruce Greenberg joining us live from London. Bruce, thanks
so much. Travel safe and yeah, we'll talk to you
again soon. All right, chere we go, Bruce Greenberg taking
in the Mets and Phills from London. I wonder what
they think about Caitlin Clark. I'm just kidding. Last night
(38:35):
a record was set in Chicago for the NWSL is
Thirty five thousand packed Wrigley Field to watch the Women's
Soccer League match. Now this is important, it's a record.
We are also lucky enough to have Isaac Lohan Cron,
a member of our team here at Fox Sports Radio.
Who's the play by play voice of the Angel City Squad.
(38:55):
You hear thirty five thousand at Wrigley Field for the
league that you cover. What are your thoughts in this
record setting event last night?
Speaker 5 (39:03):
It was just another example as to how much the
league is continuing to build because the visuals were awesome
last night. I mean, the Wrigley Field was completely packed.
It was a very competitive and entertaining match. BFC, which
is based in the Bay Area, defeated Chicago two to one.
But a couple of interesting parts of it. Mallory Swanson
(39:25):
is the star player with the Chicago Red Stars, and
she is married to Dansby Swanson of the Chicago Cubs.
Then the Chicago goal last night was scored by a
player named Penelope Hawking, twenty five years after her father,
Denny Hawking, hit a home run at Wrigley Field for
the Minnesota Twins. So, among other things, it was just
(39:46):
a continuation of the momentum that the NWSL is building
now in its twelfth season of existence. So you're going
to continue to see more games and more events like this.
The goalkeeper for Chicago, a listen Naire who's the US
national team goalkeeper, said, at best, when I started in
Chicago in twenty sixteen, our training field was a polo
(40:07):
field and my locker was the trunk of my car.
And here we are now playing at Wrigley Field.
Speaker 1 (40:12):
I would assume Angel City is already making plans for
Dodger Stady.
Speaker 5 (40:16):
Wouldn't be surprised something like that. You're going to see
more of these types of events throughout the league.
Speaker 1 (40:20):
Absolutely great, great, thank you, Isaac. It's great to see
Denny Hawking, by the way, which you may not know
former Fox Sports radio alum. Yes, really, yes, Steady Hocking
was with the network probably about fifteen years or so ago,
so knew Denny a little back then. It's great to
see that his daughter is having a great success. Would
(40:41):
you want to go to London for a baseball game?
For a baseball game, yes, I would go to London
for something else. I agree with you, yes, I would
not be going these carrier ons. I'm Dan Bayer, a
Hall of Famer in our midst in the NFL. Next,
they're in the fifth set in Paris. As you heard
my Ni say, we are also we are also monitoring
(41:04):
situations when it comes to the world of the NBA
and college basketball. I'm going to pay off my teas,
but first when it comes to Danny Hurley and the Lakers.
But first, we are broadcasting live from the Tirec dot
com studios tyreq dot com. We'll help you get there
in unmatch selection, fast free shipping, free rode as a
protection and over ten thousand recommended installers tirec dot com
(41:27):
the way tire buying should be. Danny Hurley was spotted
last night at the Billy Joel concert at Madison Square
Garden in New York City. That's right, so he was
not at the Forum for any concert. He was not
at Crypto for any event. He was back on the
East Coast after reportedly meeting with the Lakers on Friday.
(41:50):
I think we're we could be getting some news today,
and I know it's not what the NBA would like,
but we could have this second straight game of the
NBA Finals be taken over by the Lakers in Danny Hurley,
as there are reports that Hurley is going to meet
with his Yukon players today. What happens in that meeting
(42:12):
no clue. There was not a there was not a side,
but there were talks that he could be meeting with
his team today, so we could have that news on
whether Danny Hurley takes the Lakers job or doesn't take
the Lakers job. I'll just say this on the situation,
I think Hurley's side leaked it. It did the Lakers
(42:32):
absolutely no good and would allow Danny Hurley to get
the most that he would want, not even of market
value in a little north because I think now the
Lakers are in a spot where they look like their
coaching search has failed. If they don't land Danny Hurley
and the shine and all the sparkle of the out
(42:56):
of the box candidate JJ Reddick now looks a little
weird if you fail on Danny Hurley, and so that's
I think it's I think it's paramount for the Lakers
to get this done. But if they don't get this done,
the JJ Reddick hire does not have the same amount
of excitement that I felt Lakers fans had in trying
(43:17):
to convince themselves that I would work after this Danny
Hurley thing would fall out if it falls out.
Speaker 2 (43:24):
Has the Hurley potential hire been celebrated amongst Laker fans, Yes, universally.
Universally yes, And I have not heard.
Speaker 1 (43:33):
I've heard two NBA people who I feel have agendas
speak out against it. But it's also of going against
the grain. I don't know all this is. I don't
know how is his tempers, you know, going to work,
but that that doesn't necessarily matter, especially with Lebron and
the Lakers. But yeah, yeah, I would say ninety nine
percent of it well received.
Speaker 2 (43:54):
That's interesting. I mean obviously they've gone that route before
when they had their success, you know, going back to
you know, the eighties and you know, trying to get
you know, Jerry, trying to get Tarkanian and all those guys.
While so they've done this before. This is part of
you know, their culture. They like to get those guys
that are you know, those college guys that have credentials
(44:17):
and have had a lot of success before. So that's
something that we've seen. As far as I'm going to
take another I'm going to take the other side of this,
and and my side of this for Danny Hurley is
why why would you come to LA We know the brand,
we talked about that last week, but it doesn't last
(44:38):
long for you when you come to the Lakers. If
you come in, they don't usually give you the time
to build that don't give you the time to fail
some which is part of this profession. And so for
him when he's in a comfy, plush situation in Yukon,
where I think he could also use this scenario to
get more money from Yukon. If you want it. So
(44:59):
that's an angle I take with this. Sure not even
wanting to have to be higher to the Lakers, but yeah,
this is leverage. I can't be gone and at the
top level, and we're gonna leak these numbers so you
can see how much I could potentially make and so
get a bump here, be comfortable. I'm sure the why,
And I know they're from the East Coast. They love
that situation, they love where they are. He has a
team that can do something that hasn't been done, to
(45:21):
repeat and do that deal. So for me, it's a
it's a no brainer withstaying as you can for me
in this situation.
Speaker 1 (45:28):
The volatility of the NCAA tournament, it makes it so difficult.
And again they may be better equipped in that format
than any other program, but there still is the opportunity
of that upset of facing a team where someone gets hot.
I mean, they're they're really really good. They seem to
blow out anybody when it comes to the tournament time. Anyway,
(45:49):
I would just say this again, as we talked about
last week, the Lakers brand, it's the top brand in
the NBA. It's the Lakers. And I do also think
with Danny Hurley's stature to be able to say that
you coached Lebron James just to have that experience. I
(46:09):
don't think that it's I don't think it's a lose.
I don't think there's a there's a downside for it
if you were to choose to do it, other than
what you are saying is by passing the opportunity to
try to go for a three peat. The thing that
I see with it is if it doesn't work with
the Lakers, Danny Hurley's going to be wanted by every
(46:31):
college program if he becomes available again that would have
a head coach. There would be there would be schools
with head coaches cemented in their spots that would be
willing to move on from those head coaches. Yeah, to
bring in Danny Hurley to that spot. So I don't
think that like in terms of his college reputation, I
(46:52):
don't think it would be hurt at all. I think
that a school would be willing to go give him
the money. And the other aspect of it is how
often are you coming off of back to back national
championships and the Lakers job is open and Lebron James
is still there those three events, you're not going to
have it. So timing maybe everything when it comes to it,
(47:13):
and that's why I think that that is what makes
this so intriguing. Danny Hurley is always going to be
thought of as a great coach. But maybe next year
if they were to lose in an NCAA tournament game.
As crazy as that now seems, but if they were
to lose that, then maybe the Lakers fans wouldn't have
been enthralled if the Lakers just had a one and
(47:33):
done coach. Maybe it's just I think now it's the
timing and all of that that brings it in and
why I think it's appealing. And I don't think that
there's much to lose if you're Danny Hurley.
Speaker 2 (47:43):
Oh no, I mean, obviously there are coaches that have
done that, has success in college, gone to the pros
and it has not panned out, and go back to
college and win the national chamionships. We saw that with
Rick Bettino, right, So yeah, we know that's a real
viable thing. I just I know that we're always and
I don't want to say we but there are a
lot of situations in this world where people are successful
(48:06):
in spots and it can get boring sometimes. I understand that,
but there's also a layer to that where you know
things are good, I have a great situation, and your
eyes are still wandering around trying to see if there's
something else better or something else I can do or
achieve in those situations. A lot of times, if you're
doing it for just because that thing is aligned and
(48:27):
it's available doesn't mean it's the right thing to do.
And so I think having discernment on that, and for him,
we don't know. I don't know him personally, so I
don't know if coaching in the NBA was a dream.
Because if it's a dream, then yeah, you take that shot.
But if it isn't, don't just do it because it's available.
Speaker 1 (48:43):
I also think that the funny thing with Yukon is
Dannie Hurley, because you won two national championships, don't have
some of the pitfalls that maybe other programs would have
because guys aren't necessarily leaving when they should. Now you
have Stefan Cassel going to the NBA. He's declared after
(49:04):
just one season, but you can, you know, find a
freshman and bring him in like that's that's no change.
Camp Spencer came in as a transfer that added to
their squad. Alex Caravan is staying, so he's going to
be back next year. It's not like they're losing, you know,
six kids to the portal and two kids to the
(49:24):
draft and now you got to deal with the nils
of the world. Like because they're so high atop the
mountain top of college basketball, they don't have some of
the problems that most other college basketball programs have in
players wanting to transfer in and out, or maybe not
being able to get recruits or not having enough nil money.
I don't think that those problems are happening at Yukon
(49:46):
if they were in like two or three years. Maybe
he four seasons says, I don't know if this is sustainable.
Their product sure seems to be sustainable, but if he
has that foreground, maybe that's another reason why he's looking
at the NBA. I also think Carrie honestly, like like
with the you know, because you know basketball. We mentioned
Bobby Hurley earlier, you know about their dad as well,
(50:06):
like to coach, and Danny Hurley has said like he
finally when he won the national championship, he finally had
his own accomplishment in the family that he could hang
his hat on. Absolutely, And so now to be able
to do that in the NBA when you come from
you know, you're a coach's son and it's in your blood,
you would have to think that. Yeah, I just I
(50:28):
wonder what I could do. And I think just even
that nature of it push everything else aside of if
you had your pick of NBA jobs and it became available,
what would you do and would you do it if
it's in your blood? And I think that that he
would do it. And I know people if Dan Patrick said, oh,
I think that the Knicks would be a better option, Well,
it doesn't look like Tom Thibodeau's going anywhere, you know
(50:49):
at this point, and it's the Lakers, and so I
think all of those factors play into it. I think
the coaching pedigree in their family plays a big deal.
Speaker 2 (50:57):
I'll say, yeah, I mean they're basketball royalty, and so
I mean I've been around that, I've been in New
York for for a long time. I've known about them
and known about the situation. But you know, it's one
of those things, Yes, the opportunity to be an NBA
coach with the Lakers and have that one up on
the family. It could play a possible role. But I
(51:19):
see I see them in a family as legacy guys,
and so if you could stay in Yukon and build
this legacy, that's crazy. I mean, obviously already he has
that now, he has that cachet, But do we think
of Dan Hurley as one of the top ten coaches
of all time or where does he fall in that
rank right now? So if he left went to the NBA,
(51:39):
it failed, he comes back, I guess he still has time.
But I'm just thinking about longevity and legacy for them.
I think it matters for them. It's different.
Speaker 1 (51:47):
Yeah, Like I mean, Danny Hurley's around my age, and
I still feel like there's that old school mentality. But
when you look at the coaches throughout college basketball and
who has stayed and who's gone, and you know, and
who remains, I mean for coaches leaving the game, and
we've Roy Williams, Mike Krzyzewski, Jim Beaheim, whether it was
(52:10):
his decision or not or all no longer And those
were the names that you thought were always just going
to be there, right and they're no longer in the
game and new guys have taken over and who no
longer how long tom Izzo has, you know, with Michigan State,
it's just a it's a different game, just like it
is in college football. We're seeing head coaches end up
(52:31):
being coordinators. Yeah again, I don't think you kind of
has the same problems that maybe drive certain coaches away
or they don't want to transition and deal with anymore.
But yeah, I just wonder, you know, you brought something
up and it just made me think of like in
today's day and age, because I wanted to do this.
Christian McCaffrey got a contract extension this week with the
(52:51):
forty nine ers, and maybe we'll talk about it in
like thirty minutes or so, but I think Christian McCaffrey
has a really strong case to be a Pro Football
Hall of Famer. And it's crazy to think considering that,
you know, just two years ago, we're like, oh, boy,
Christian McCaffrey's career going to be derailed by injuries. And
we look back at the greatness of college basketball and
(53:12):
we cling to the to the UCLA dynasty of John Wooden,
but like really like Duke of being the dominant program
that they were, you know, had you know, five national
titles with coach k So Hurley's at two right, you know,
like one or two more and he's now so like
(53:35):
the what you have to accomplish is not maybe you
don't need thirty more years to accomplish it. You could
do it in you know, five years if you need
it exactly.
Speaker 2 (53:43):
And that's the whole point with the legacy and what
does he really want to achieve that? Do you want
to be somebody that just climbed the mountaintop and you know,
coach at every level and had success at every level,
which is fine and admirable, but he has a he's
in a position right now, a spot right now. It's
a really submit their early name and legacy as coaches
on the collegiate level and win something big and achieve
(54:06):
something that his brother, his dad never did on the
collegiate level.
Speaker 1 (54:10):
Timing is everything. Yeah, in these these things that are there,
I think the timing fits so well and you can't Yeah,
I don't think you're going to get a better opportunity.
And it may and may not be perfect. It may
not be perfect timing, but I think it's darn near
If there was ever a time and a place in
a situation. I think that now is it for Danny
Hurley and the Lakers. But again we'll be on the
lookout report saying that he's going to be meeting with
(54:32):
the team today, but none of those reports said one
way or the other on what he was deciding, Just
more of conversing with his program. All right, Carrie Rhodes
is going to try the greatness of easy As one
two three four, and it's got the lifelines of Manzi
Belago's Chris Purfett and Shay are executive producer and the
topics for today's game coming up next? Are you ready? Olympics?
(54:58):
Oh Man always WNBA Okay? In Major League Baseball?
Speaker 2 (55:05):
All right?
Speaker 1 (55:05):
Are you ready? Okay? All right? Carry Roads in the
hot scene. I'm dan Byer easy As one two three
four next year on Fox Sports Radio, Fox Sports Sunday.
He's carry Rhoades the All Pro. I'm Dan Byer five
setter going on in the French Open final, Carlos Alcarez,
now up a break in that fifth set. Monzie'll have
(55:28):
an update in about fifteen minutes or so, maybe even
even sooner than that, that is depending on how well
Carrie Rhoads gets through our game. Here we go of
easy as one, two, three, four. He has three lifelines Manzi,
Shay and Chris on the other side of the glass.
(55:49):
The goal is to get a perfect score of ten.
But a perfect score doesn't mean you get all of
the right answers, because I'm not looking for all of
the right answers. I'm looking for some of the right
answers over under. Today is eight and a half. I
feel very good about today. On your behalf of mine,
on your BIA. I don't believe, Carrie, that this game
(56:12):
is set out to trick you, and I feel very confident,
confident about today, and I feel confident that your lifelines
can help you in a way. Just listen to the
question and you'll be fine. You're ready to play, Let's
do it. Name one of two on the Topics again, Olympics, NBA, WNBA,
(56:37):
and Major League Baseball. Name one of two current or
former countries to have one of the most gold medals
in the Olympics in women's basketball.
Speaker 8 (56:49):
One of two. One of two. Oh, I'll take the
United States for sure. Okay, don't even need the lifelines.
I don't need no show me the United States. There
they are off and running. Yeah, did you know the
other one? The other one would probably be Russia, did Matzi?
Speaker 2 (57:08):
Did you know? No?
Speaker 11 (57:09):
I would have guessed Russia, China Okay.
Speaker 12 (57:12):
I would have probably guessed Germany or France.
Speaker 1 (57:14):
Okay, shade, Yeah, I was gonna do Russia.
Speaker 2 (57:17):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (57:17):
So this is where it gets a little tricky. I said,
current or former Soviet Union would have been the current
dancer Soviet Union.
Speaker 2 (57:26):
Yeah, a little tricky.
Speaker 1 (57:27):
But Russia would not have been accepted because we would
have needed the entire Soviet Union. Yeah, yeah, yeah, there
was the unified team in nineteen ninety two. The last
team to have won that wasn't the United States, but
that also wouldn't have counted. All right, carries off and running.
Let's go one point. Name two of three teams the
(57:47):
Boston Celtics have lost to in their history in the
NBA finals.
Speaker 2 (57:51):
He said, one of two or two of three? Two
of three? So definitely the Lakers. Okay, I'd say Portland.
Is that where you want to go? I think I'll go.
Speaker 1 (58:05):
Do you want to use any of your lifelines here?
Speaker 2 (58:08):
Lakers Portland? I'll go with Shaye Am I good am,
I good on that one, say or what you we're
gonna throw on something else? Okay, throw nothing, Saint Louis Hawks.
What if he said it that confidently, I'll I'll take
I'll take that.
Speaker 1 (58:27):
Shay is officially banned from the show because he's cheating.
Speaker 12 (58:30):
He didn't even he didn't even try to hide. Be
Steve Hartman.
Speaker 2 (58:35):
I was like, if he's that confident about that one,
I'm definitely going with that one.
Speaker 1 (58:39):
He is a lifetime ban.
Speaker 2 (58:43):
You are what was it he's talking about? Who is it?
You are Pete Rose in the room? You are Pete Rose?
Speaker 1 (58:50):
These not even in the room. Here's the thing, this
is no this is what this is what really takes.
This is what really this is what really kicks me off.
This is this this, this makes me this this is
the integrity of the game. First of all, she's not
even here every week. Automatic he doesn't know the rules.
(59:12):
This is the first time it was a different word
than ticked. But it's still Sunday morning here on the
West Coast and it's about thirty minutes away in the
Mountain time zone, so I'm not going to use a
different phrase. But what really ticks me off is that
there's another answer that is obvious, like this is an
easy question, and they could have given me the other
(59:34):
obvious answer and I would have been none the wiser.
But you went to Saint Louis Hawk. I was gonna
do that answer, but I don't know. It's something in
the back of my head. Was just going Saint Louis
Hawk heard. I don't know what it was, but banned
lifetime ban. Yeah, I agree, lifetime ban.
Speaker 2 (59:54):
It was fine.
Speaker 11 (59:54):
While the last I had there's two strikes.
Speaker 2 (01:00:00):
Show me. I won't even use that one. I'll go,
I'll go. You just on your phone the answer, No way, dad,
you know what I'm not guy? No, really, you down?
No heard? Have you heard? I was looking at all
the teams, all the teams. That's it.
Speaker 1 (01:00:15):
By the way, here's the other thing. First of all,
show me the Lakers. We know the Lakers for twenty ten,
eighty seven, eighty five.
Speaker 12 (01:00:23):
There is such an easy one on the board.
Speaker 2 (01:00:25):
Yes to see Golden State.
Speaker 1 (01:00:27):
Yeah, show me the Saint Louis Hawks. Of course, who
could forget nineteen fifty eight? Like who could forget that?
Get that and the other the Golden State Warriors two
years ago. So again, like I set the game up
to be easy and you and the Lifeline Carrie. I
don't even blame you until now when you looked at
up the Warriors at your phone.
Speaker 2 (01:00:48):
That is not that is not right now. I was
just looking at I had to see all the NBA
teams so I could.
Speaker 1 (01:00:53):
It can register in my brain, that's all. I will
sit down and I will think of a topic and
I will write and I'll you know, we talked about
Caitlin Clark earlier. Yeah, you know, sat down. It's you know,
we have our thoughts, we have our emotions. Took me,
took me ten minutes to type out everything I felt
about it. This game takes me like forty five minutes
(01:01:13):
to put together. And the integrity of it just thrown
away by Steve Hartman. I can't believe, by the way,
was proven incorrect when he used my topic last week again,
if you want to know why the Lakers are the
biggest brand again, they hijacked game one of the NBA
Finals with their coaching search. No one even cared to
talk about the Celtics.
Speaker 2 (01:01:33):
Then, the way he said St. Louis Hawks, I was like,
if you're gonna throw it out and out that it
has to be right.
Speaker 1 (01:01:38):
Yeah, yeah, exactly with such confidences.
Speaker 12 (01:01:41):
Well, the youngest one here.
Speaker 1 (01:01:43):
Yeah, yeah's talking about I legit was like, who this
is basketball shait exactly.
Speaker 13 (01:01:51):
Something in the back of my head.
Speaker 1 (01:01:54):
Like, the funny thing is is I can't see Steve
Hartman next to him, so I thought at first that
Shay just googled it, which.
Speaker 2 (01:02:01):
Made me more mad.
Speaker 1 (01:02:02):
Yeah, and when I heard that it was Hartman and
I'm kind of like, well, of course it's hard.
Speaker 11 (01:02:06):
Yeah, like it makes sense, Like, oh, okay, I.
Speaker 1 (01:02:08):
Got a little bit of integrity, all right on the
question number three.
Speaker 2 (01:02:15):
Okay, by the way, see the thing is, actually.
Speaker 1 (01:02:17):
You guys are going to be so screwed.
Speaker 2 (01:02:19):
I want to tackle it.
Speaker 12 (01:02:21):
If she had actually google it, he's still being the
game because he would have said Warriors right away instead
of instead of the Saint Louis Hawks.
Speaker 8 (01:02:28):
I did the fun one man, the fun My god, Dan,
take a breather.
Speaker 2 (01:02:34):
Let's get back into it. Man, you're a little ran too.
We got a little retin that's going on. This is
this is fun.
Speaker 1 (01:02:41):
I'm never coming back on this show. Next week is
going to be named the top three finishers of the
third tier of the Bolivian Soccer League.
Speaker 2 (01:02:50):
That's what you're gonna next week. Help you out with that. Uh,
let's apartment still here? Exactly?
Speaker 1 (01:02:56):
The Warriors in nineteen twelve.
Speaker 2 (01:03:03):
All right, now onto the w n b A.
Speaker 1 (01:03:06):
These are easy.
Speaker 2 (01:03:07):
This week.
Speaker 1 (01:03:10):
Three of four original w n b A franchises that
are still in the league today.
Speaker 2 (01:03:17):
Three of the four original Uh I give you.
Speaker 1 (01:03:22):
I was even going to give you a hint on
like like just some inside information on this, but go La, Okay,
we go to New York.
Speaker 2 (01:03:32):
We go to Liberty Sparks, and we'll go the comments.
Still that Wait, the Houston comment is not the same anymore,
is it? Because they were one of the originals. But
are they still there? This is the trick. See thws
a little spind on?
Speaker 7 (01:03:45):
Right?
Speaker 1 (01:03:46):
Yeah, so no, Liberty, we know Sparks. Well, you've got
two lifelines left because Shay is no longer. Shay is
still banned from the shown.
Speaker 11 (01:03:55):
What about I'm just guessing Diana Tarassi. I think she's
only played for the Mercury.
Speaker 2 (01:03:59):
No, thank you? Yes, where did those story?
Speaker 1 (01:04:05):
All right?
Speaker 2 (01:04:05):
I like that?
Speaker 1 (01:04:06):
Show me the LA Sparks started in nineteen ninety seven.
Show me the New York Liberty also in nineteen ninety seven,
and show me the Phoenix Mercury.
Speaker 2 (01:04:18):
There you go. Yeah, good call, good call.
Speaker 1 (01:04:22):
The other tricky one is because they haven't stayed in
the same spot. Now, there have been teams that have folded.
There have been teams that started later and moved. The
Las Vegas Aces have actually been in the league from
the beginning. But they were the Utah Stars when they
moved to San Antonio, and where the Silver Stars where
the San Antonio Stars for a little bit, and now
they moved to Las Vegas, and are the Las Vegas
(01:04:42):
Aces that franchise has been in. All of the other
franchises that started in nineteen ninety seven have folded and
all of the newer franchises started after that point. So
three for three on that one peract score of six going.
And the final question, name four of five countries that
have hosted a Major League Baseball regular season game, not
(01:05:07):
including England as we're seeing today, and not including Canada,
the home of the Toronto Blue Jays and formerly the
Montreal Expos. So there are five other countries obviously outside
of the United States, that have hosted Major League Baseball
international games. Named four of the five.
Speaker 2 (01:05:31):
I'd say Japan, I go there.
Speaker 14 (01:05:39):
You said outside of the United States, So that's yes,
intern outside ye in the USA, the country, USA and
Canada because the teams that are obviously there in the
in the England game going on yet now, So it
would say Japan.
Speaker 2 (01:05:51):
Will go the the philip the Philippines.
Speaker 1 (01:05:57):
You have two lifelines with Chris Purfett, I'll go Chris.
Speaker 12 (01:06:02):
I'm gonna say pro South Korea is definitely one of them,
for sure. I'm trying to rack my brain. I think
Australia has had a game. I have to keep thinking.
But I had South Korea the top of my mind.
Speaker 13 (01:06:17):
What Columbia, No, not Colombia now now he's just twisting.
Speaker 2 (01:06:35):
Okay, it depends South Area. I believe those two, and then.
Speaker 12 (01:06:39):
Japan South Korea. So the other possibilities at the top
of my mind thinking Puerto Rico and Mexico.
Speaker 2 (01:06:46):
I'll go Puerto Rico for sure.
Speaker 12 (01:06:48):
Okay, unless unless US territories are still bad.
Speaker 2 (01:06:53):
Would you trick us like that? Dan, I think I've given.
Speaker 1 (01:06:56):
You enough information already.
Speaker 2 (01:06:58):
I'll take that as a yes exactly. So what you
say Japan, I said Japan.
Speaker 12 (01:07:03):
You said Puerto Rico, and then I can't remember if
they've played in Mexico or not, and I really want,
I really for some reason.
Speaker 2 (01:07:12):
Yeah, Okay, he's available. Man's available in Mexico. Mexico for sure.
Speaker 8 (01:07:17):
Hello, cool, so hey, what do you think?
Speaker 2 (01:07:22):
Just kidding your band as he.
Speaker 1 (01:07:28):
Was, he was like the same Louis Blackhawks. I gotta
learn a lesson, Shay, gotta learn a lesson. Show me Japan.
There it is, carry Carrie a bunch of games. Show
me South Korea for the first time this year. Yes,
the Dodgers and Padres playing over there. Show me Puerto Rico.
How did I do?
Speaker 2 (01:07:48):
Monzi?
Speaker 1 (01:07:48):
Was that pretty good?
Speaker 2 (01:07:50):
He tried to do the art?
Speaker 12 (01:07:51):
I heard it.
Speaker 1 (01:07:52):
The Expos played games there in the final two seasons
before leaving Montreal. They figured game figared Puerto Rico, ya,
and show me Mexico. There were games in Mexico this season.
Speaker 12 (01:08:05):
Hello.
Speaker 1 (01:08:06):
And Chris Purfett was not wrong when he said Australia
really nice Rodgers played in the last decade they played
down in Sydney. For uh.
Speaker 11 (01:08:17):
Yes, isn't that the series that everyone blames Kershaw's.
Speaker 2 (01:08:21):
Yes, Yes, that's coming back.
Speaker 3 (01:08:25):
There we go.
Speaker 2 (01:08:26):
It comes back when no, not again.
Speaker 11 (01:08:31):
I was just like obviously guys Mexico were like Mexico,
I'm just banned.
Speaker 2 (01:08:36):
I don't do anything.
Speaker 1 (01:08:37):
I'm just going to say this, Carrie just got a
perfect game, but it doesn't feel like it's a perfect
game because of the shenanigans that took place earlier. Fault
come on. It's like Steve Hartman's the Victor Conte.
Speaker 2 (01:08:51):
I can't.
Speaker 12 (01:08:53):
I'm not going to say like we are really going
to Armando Galarraga this.
Speaker 2 (01:09:00):
He disappeared too. I don't even see him and he
through the building. Now he that can disappearing next, Steve.
Speaker 1 (01:09:05):
There it is ten of ten. Next week's over under
is going to be two and a half. Congratulations, as
Peterman said on Seinfeld on a job done. He's carry road,
Tom Dan Bayerlafrothtyrech dot Com Studios. We've got a final
in Paris. M hmm, we don't have one yen in London.
Let's go over to the news desk. Monci Bolanos giving
(01:09:27):
us the latest. She still has her integrity here. He
has won two, three, four.
Speaker 11 (01:09:34):
Fellas. I don't know what you guys were doing at
twenty one. I was not doing what Carlos Alkaraz is
doing is becoming the jugestsman to win a major final
on all three surfaces. He has defeated Alexander Vedev in
five sets, six games to two. Was the final on
that one twenty one years old? Like, how amazing?
Speaker 1 (01:09:53):
Is that?
Speaker 7 (01:09:53):
Good for you?
Speaker 11 (01:09:54):
Carlos Alcaraz has won the French Open men's singles. Let's
move on to Major League baseball. This was an interesting
ninth inning where the Mets took the lead with three runs.
It wasn't very pretty, but they figured it out. Mark
Viento's with an RBI single, Pete Alonso was hit by
a pitch with the bases loaded, and then catcher j
(01:10:14):
t Rolmuto for the Phillies let a ball pass him
and then they got another run in. But the Phillies
in the bottom of the ninth inning have scored a run.
So right now, bottom of the ninth inning.
Speaker 1 (01:10:24):
No, it's officially over, it's over.
Speaker 2 (01:10:26):
It's over.
Speaker 11 (01:10:26):
Mets have beat the Phillies. They had a chance six
to five, so they split the two game series in
London six ' five. Mets beat the Phillies officially, but
it was interesting there for a second.
Speaker 12 (01:10:36):
Yeah, they got it.
Speaker 11 (01:10:36):
They got it all right. Let's move on to the
fourth and final round of the PGA Memorial Tournament. Scotti
Scheffler is in the lead at ten under par overall,
but he is set to tee.
Speaker 2 (01:10:45):
Off any second now.
Speaker 11 (01:10:47):
Adam Hadwin, who has officially teed off, is three shots back,
but Scotti Scheffler any second now should be teeing off.
Boxing star Ryan Garcia was arrested Saturday for felony vandalism
after a Beverly Hills hotel accused him of causing an
estimated fifteen thousand dollars in damage. He may also face
a charge of public intoxication and of course, the NBA
Finals Game two tonight, Celtics maps it all tips off
(01:11:09):
from Boston, who leads the series one zero at eight
pm Eastern time.
Speaker 1 (01:11:13):
Back to you guys, thank you very much. Manzi hit
her up at Mancy Belanos and hear her and Steve
Hartman Saturday here on Fox Sports Radio. He's in the
doghouse right now. He is carry roads. Did that wouldn't
feel good?
Speaker 2 (01:11:27):
It did? Oh? Yes, jeez. I didn't feel like any
real assistance was given outside of you know, fairness and
the goodness of winning a game, and I think when
you're trying to win a game, nothing is really off
the table if you don't get caught, you know what
I mean.
Speaker 1 (01:11:47):
Better, We got caught.
Speaker 12 (01:11:49):
Better, We got caught. Call carry ol twov the way
he's trying to keep his jersey on.
Speaker 1 (01:11:55):
Hey, we didn't have a clock, we didn't have any
we didn't have a camera outside of the blatant eating
on the hands of Shay. My other favorite part, and
by that I mean not favorite part, the echo of
your phone hitting the table and you saying Golden State
Warriors overlapped. So that's how coming to boom All Golden Warriors.
Speaker 2 (01:12:14):
Of course, Dan, All that was was an awareness, you know,
like when you're in the thralls of the game sometimes
it's coming really fast. As I didn't need to see
the teams, and I was like, oh, easy, Carrie, we're
just winners. We'll say when what we do what it takes.
Speaker 1 (01:12:35):
Hit them up at Carry twenty five Roads. You can
find me at Dan Byer on Fox. We are lit
from the tire Ac dot Com Studios. Christian McCaffrey got
a contract extension this week from the San Francisco forty
nine ers, but he could be getting much much more
when his playing career is over. That's next year. On
Fox Sports Radio Fox Sports Sunday, He's Carry Roads. I'm
Dan Byer getting set for a game two tonight Celtics
(01:12:59):
and Mavericks. If you miss Carries three points to take
into Game two tonight, you can listen to the podcast
after the show. Let's go to Foxsports Radio dot com,
click on podcast and find Fox Sports Radio Weekends, and
that's what you can That's where you can hear how
Carry thinks Game two or what needs to happen for
the Mavericks and what needs to happen for the Celtics
(01:13:21):
for that matter. In tonight's Game two where you talk
about a must win for Dallas, I'm just kidding, but
I do think that being down two oh for the
Mavericks would not be ideal, and not to not to
make it generic. I don't think Boston's gonna gonna dominate.
(01:13:43):
I think the Mavericks will figure them out at some point,
but I just don't know if it's gonna be too late,
if Boston is already up two oh.
Speaker 2 (01:13:51):
I like the.
Speaker 1 (01:13:52):
Mavericks in the series at the start of it. Yeah,
I would pick them to win in six if they
If they don't win tonight, We've seen teams win four
straight games playoff series. It's happened before. It happened three
years ago with the Suns and Bucks. I just don't
know if Dallas can win the series that way. If
they're down to oh.
Speaker 2 (01:14:08):
It's happened to Dallas. Dallas was up to oh against
the Heat and No. Six and the Heat once, Yeah
in a row, so we know that can happen. I
think Dallas needs to win tonight if they fall down
too oh to Boston, barring any unforeseen injuries happening at
that point, they're not going to be Boston four or
five times. So this is a very pivotal game.
Speaker 1 (01:14:28):
Game two, the Dallas Mavericks and Boston Celtics tipping off
tonight in the unique The unique final schedule that you
have is we were used to the uh the old
Tuesday Thursday Sunday schedule, and the NBA hasn't done that
as of late. But you've got Sunday night, then you
go to Dallas on Wednesday, and then there's the quick
(01:14:50):
turnaround on Friday. That's the only the only day of
the next weekend there are no games on Saturday or Sunday,
which is a little crazy.
Speaker 2 (01:14:57):
Pretty pretty weird.
Speaker 1 (01:14:58):
Yeah, here's my thing that I wanted to wrap up with.
By the way, I like Dallas tonight.
Speaker 2 (01:15:04):
Like Dallas, I do about how many points you got
to if you were a given point. Yes, you think
they're gonna come out and jump on Boston early or
what do you think? No?
Speaker 1 (01:15:14):
I think that I think that they will, they will,
they will be fine throughout. I think that Boston will
fall in love with the three, which seems to get
them in trouble. And I think Dallas makes plays at
the end.
Speaker 2 (01:15:28):
Got it.
Speaker 1 (01:15:28):
But I absolutely think Boston can win a game in Dallas.
So just to say that, but I think I think
Dallas wins tonight, got it. Uh, we are a lot
from the Tirech dot Com studios. Christian McCaffrey got a
contract extension, not a huge deal in the in the
world of the NFL this year is he is still
the highest paid running back in the National Football League.
(01:15:49):
But if I were to say to you, Carrie, Christian McCaffrey,
hall of Fame running back, what would you think about that?
Speaker 2 (01:15:58):
I think I think, ooh, that's a tough one for me.
I mean, obviously great, great player, But if you compare
his stats to I guess the other running backs in
his generation right now, that's McCaffrey, Derrick Henry, Ezekiel Elliott.
(01:16:18):
Like I don't see Ezekiel Elliott being the Hall of
Famer in my mind right now. I mean he's had
great years. Obviously, he has a lot of Russian touchdowns.
Most of those rushing touchdowns were one yard in, you know,
so it wasn't like crazy crazy runs happening. I think
out of those three, my first would be Derrick Henry. Yes,
I agree, but McCaffrey definitely has a chance. For sure.
Speaker 1 (01:16:39):
I think that there is a there is a biased
against a certain type of running back in the NFL. Yeah,
And actually I think it's the type of back that
Christian McCaffrey is the duel. Yes, Marshall Falkett helps you know,
when you're on the Greatest show on Turf, you win
a Super Bowl, that all helps you. But I also,
and I've been the been on this crusade carry for
(01:17:02):
years where I think guys like Tiki Barber, Steven Jackson,
Fred Taylor, Ricky Waters, Warwick Dunn who are these multifaceted
backs don't get his enough credit. And I used Jerome
Bettis as the example of Jerome Bettis was such a
one dimensional back. He wasn't even a good goal line back.
(01:17:25):
He was just big like he was just and ran
for a bunch of yards and was on the Steelers
and amasses these yards and people are like one of
the greatest running backs of all time. I'm not trying
to diminish his career, but he was a one trick pony.
And you have these other backs who may not have
the rushing numbers that were much more valuable to their
(01:17:47):
team and what they did, and I don't think they
get as much credit. And that leads me to Christian
McCaffrey because I think that there is a thought that
Christian McCaffrey's career for a little while went a little
wasted in Carolina because of injuries. But if you were
to look at his numbers there, and you look at
what his numbers were in San Francisco and the trump
card I think would be this upcoming season if he
follows up what he did. He led the NFL in rushing,
(01:18:10):
you know last season. If he follows that up with
another season this year, with how we treat running backs
in the NFL now and their shelf life in the NFL,
if you're not going to put Christian McCaffrey in the
Hall of Fame if there was another year, you might
as not put any running back of this era in
the Hall of Fame. So that's why I think, like
when you look at what he's done and what he's
(01:18:30):
accomplished specifically with this team, but he had a thousand
yard receiving season with the Carolina Panthers at one point
led the league in rushing. That's not one dimension. That's
doing a lot of different things. I also think that
he's the heart of that forty nine ers offense. That
if that, if he has a season like he does
last year and stays healthy, I think Christian McCaffrey is
(01:18:52):
bound for Canton in the Hall of Fame.
Speaker 2 (01:18:53):
Yeah. I think he's the definition of the perfect back now.
To be a to be a back now, you have
to be a dual threat guy. You gotta be a
guy that can catch the ball at the backfield. What's
he does at a high rate run the ball at
a high rate, which he does really well, but also
the other thing that's lost in this conversation with the
way he plays, and it's not part of the stats,
(01:19:14):
but he's a complete back. He can actually pick up
and protection as well. Yes, I mean, which is what
Zeke could do.
Speaker 1 (01:19:19):
And you know, like with when he was with Dallas
and here's Courreer, I just look at it in five
year windows, and Terrell Davis is a Hall of Famer.
There was a point in the late nineteen nineties where
Tarrell Davis was the most valuable, most important player in
the National Football League. But if you look at his career,
it's really you know, about three four years of that
high level, you know for sure of football action. And
(01:19:43):
so if you're going to take Christian McCaffrey, then take
his three or four or five years and look at
where he is. I think I had four backs of
Derrick Henry, Christian McCaffrey. I did put Ezekiel Elliott in
that conversation. Yeah, I don't know if he'll go in,
but actually, if you look at what Zeke did in
his early years with Dallas, it's pretty impressive. The other
(01:20:04):
one Nick Chubb, Like if Nick Chubb comes back from
his knee injury, and what he's done for Cleveland. Not
as much of the factor back, doing the different things
than Christian McCaffrey, but still just produce, produce, produce like
your mentor Curtis Martin did. That's right, you know he
would be another guy. But when we're talking about receivers
and quarterbacks all the time, I think the running back
(01:20:25):
should get some love.
Speaker 2 (01:20:26):
Yeah. I appreciate it. I'm sure they appreciate it as well.
Speaker 1 (01:20:29):
If we just need people to listen to me, that's
the only thing. He's carrier. Oats, I'm Dan Beyer. You
like the MAVs. I like the MAVs. Ye, We'll see
how we fare. We'll talk to you next time. Thanks
