There's pressure in every show, more pressure in week three
because of the marquee games that we've got on our
late windows slate here four matchups Seahawks Saints right now,
kind of whatever if you heard Monte say Seattle's up
eighteen in that one. However, the other three games a
lot to play for and a lot to talk about.
But Carrie rhads there's also pressure in taking over the

chair of a Hall of Famer. And for those that
missed it earlier today the live announcement here on Fox
Sports Radio, Steve Hartman going to be enshrined in the
Southern California Sports Broadcasters Hall of Fame. Yes, the induction
ceremony coming up in January, class of twenty twenty six.
So we got some big shoes to fill for the

next three hours we do. I think, are you actually

And then you see right now, I can't even sit

apropos as well. Today. But we have got these three
games going on right now that have so much impact

on how the rest of the season could play out
and how the first part of the season has gone
out again no offense to the Seahawks and Saints. Seahawks
have gotten into the endisode again. So it's now twenty
eight to three, so we could kind of focus on
these other three matchups. And it's something when you and
I got together earlier this week for Doug Gottlieb on Friday,

this was the conversation we have Broncos Chargers in an
AFC West showdown. NFC West showed on between the Cardinals
and forty nine Ers, and right now, Caleb Williams is
thrown two touchdown passes Ceedee Lambs dinged up for the
Cowboys Bears on top of Dallas fourteen to three.

Speaker 4 (02:07):
A lot of intriguing scenarios going on in this game
early in the season obviously, but we talked about it before, Dan,
like these games, you know, you think that they're just
a Week three game and they don't count, but down
the stretch when games count and wins need to be
added up and tallied at the end for you to
make the playoffs, these games counting their division games. Not
like I said, I'm so excited to see this Charger

Broncos game. And Denver has the ball now second to
sixteen on the forty yard line. But intriguing game today.

Speaker 2 (02:35):
Nothing surprises me that this is three to nothing with
seven minutes to go until halftime, because this is who
these teams are in the Chargers now, such a physical
team on defense. Denver in last week's heartbreak, which we'll
get to in a bit, because boy does the NFL
love to make me look awful, and what happened today

(02:57):
for something I said last week, But last week we
saw the Broncos losing a heartbreaking fashion to the Colts.
You'd think that they'd probably have an extra grind this week,
So they're coming out physical, get a turnover of Justin
Herbert in Broncos territory. So the defense making some plays,
but there's a lot at stake here. Plus the Chargers
already have a win over the Chiefs, and if you
get another win over the Denver Broncos, you're gonna have

(03:20):
a lot of You're gonna have a nice little cushion,
I should say, in the AFC West to at least
start this season. Yeah, I mean the Broncos. We've talked
about it.

Speaker 4 (03:29):
I think you also said it as well, like a
lot of guys are high on the Broncos. And so
you know, falling the one and two early in the
season isn't the end of the world. But again, it's
the vision your planning a team that you know is
going to be in that contention for winning that division
down the stretch. You want to come out and win
these games and show that you belong right in that
upper echelon as well. And so it's an important game

(03:50):
for both. And you know, like all these games, man,
like I said, before, they count, and I know it's
kind of cliche in the NFL. When you say every down,
every snap, everything counts, it really does.

Speaker 2 (04:01):
And the snap that the Broncos just had carry just cringed.
You couldn't see it if you're listening through the app
or on the radio, but bo Knicks just missed a
wide open Marvin Mimes overthrowing him in what would have
been a touchdown on a third and nineteen from about
their own forty yard line. So six points off the board,

and it's just just an overthrow by bow Knicks who
felt some pressure. But that's a throw that you have
to complete in that scenario. You got to make it.

Speaker 4 (04:31):
Good play call by the Broncos, but terrible defense by
the Chargers this third and nineteen. What are you biting
up for on any trick or raiser anyway? So you
know it just goes hand in hand, but you got
to you gotta take advantage of those opportunities for sure.

Speaker 2 (04:43):
So that's what's happening in the AFC West. And yes,
is Carrie mentioned we got our eyes on these other games.
Mac Jones starting again for San Francisco allows us to
take a look at this matchup here, and I think
in a way given edge to what but I feel
is a very good Cardinals team. Yeah, if Brock Perdy plays,

I like San Francisco in this game. But it's a
winnable game for the Cardinals, and much more winnable if
mac Jones is the quarterback is San Francisco. So sitting
there at zero zero right now, I think it's a
win for the forty nine ers. I think that if
you were Arizona, you wanted to make mac Jones one
dimensional and get out and take a somewhat of a
leader put some points on the board, and they haven't
yet done it here in this first half. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (05:25):
You know, the Cardinals one of those perplexing teams to me,
where they do play hard, they're going to be in
pretty much every game they play. Gannon has those guys
ready to play unprepared. They got playmakers, you know, they
had a few play makers on offense and on defense
as well, and so in these situations, like you said,
a backup quarterback for San Francisco, Arizona should be up

in this game. So far, they're driving now to put
points on the board, but they want to get some
distance here.

Speaker 2 (05:50):
And some other news from that Cardinals forty nine Ers game,
Nick Bosa had to leave the contest because of a
knee injury. There. It was showing on the Fox podcast
at one point that he gave a thumbs down. Yeah,
And I don't want to speculate, but if you're giving
a thumbs down, it's usually not good news. Well, probably
not good news, especially for today. I think he's probably done.

But did you pass the test? Some state exactly?

Speaker 4 (06:15):
Bad news exactly, But the forty nine ers have been
riddled with injuries for the you know, for the whole
Shanahan era. It seems like whenever they get some type
of momentum, somebody goes down. And right now the two
and zero, but their best pass rushers look like he's
done for today.

Cardinals get points on the board kicking a field goal,
so they're up three to nothing in that contest. The
good news for the Cowboys is that Ceedee Lamb did
return of the game. Bad news is they're putting up
field goals. Well, the Bears are putting up touchdowns. That's
fourteen to six. Early in the second quarter, Caleb Williams
a couple of touchdown throws, including one on a flea
flicker that he hits Luthor Burden. The third four so
the Bears up early on the Cowboys Chicago, trying to

right all those wrongs after the slow start of the season,
including getting demolished last week by Detroit.

Yeah, this season's going to be a marathon. We've talked
about it. I've talked about it. I think there's a
lot of parody in the league, and so we talk
about defining teams as separating from the pack. I don't
think there's many of those right now. I think there's
maybe two right now that I think would be above
the rest in my mind at this moment.

But the rest are going to have to fight it out.

Speaker 4 (07:16):
And so the Bears that they can come out here
and win a game against Dallas and get back on
track and be one and two, they're right back in
the mix.

Speaker 2 (07:23):
I made a joke earlier that you're the All Pro,
the starter since day one, Steve Hartman's the Hall of Famer,
and I'm overtired. The reason I was overtired, it's not
a sob story. Was supposed to catch a plane back
from the Bills game that we went to on Thursday yesterday,
we got stranded in Chicago, so we were there overnight.
Ended up just staying at the airport at o Air

The reason I bring this story up though, is I
think it's relevant. It's very relevant. So this Bears Cowboys game,
We're sitting there at what three thirty in the morning.
Workers are starting to file in. Do you know what
happens on an NFL Sunday when you're working at an airport.
The employees will wear jerseys of their teams. So I
saw Cardinals JJ Watt. It wasn't a Carrie Rhoads, but

it was a Cardinals JJ Watt Jersey, saw some Packers Jersey,
saw some Eagles jerseys, and I saw an employee where
a Chicago Bears jersey number seventeen. Tyson Baigent. Yes, yes, Carrie,
oh wow. Yes. So they make Tyson Beijen jerseys, so
you can get a Tyson Beigen jersey. But it also

tells me that in this really really really small sample
size in Chicago, for all of the talk that's happened
with Caleb Williams and what is his future and are
he and Ben Johnson able to get on the same page,
that there are some in Chicago that are already looking
for Tyson Baijin to come in and be the savior well.

Speaker 4 (08:45):
They better go take that jersey off and pawn it then,
because he's not getting in over Caleb Williams for a
while and Keller.

Williams hast time.

There were two games in the season under a new
offense news game and he hasn't been terrible. He hasn't
been great either, and you know, you just got to
give it time. This team has too many weapons and
he's too skilled for them to be bad all year.
So hopefully it gets it gets it together. Tyson Beijing
fan in Chicago. I applaudie for being that brave, but
other than that, it's not going to happen.

Dan. I don't want to say anything about anyone's age
because it's it's not my business. But the guy wasn't
young either, and so I'm like, I can get if
you're trying to be hip and cool and look, I
got the Beijing jersey. But if you're investing that money
and you're you're in your mid sixties and you're rocking
your Tyson Beijing jersey, you're doing it for a statement.

I think you might be right, Dan, But I would
hope to say on the other side of that that
that was a gift from his younger hipper cousin.

Good I gave it to him and good save out
of first and twenty. KILEB Williams almost picked off Livingly Cooker,
so it's going to be second down and twenty. But
the Bears up fourteen to six in that contest in
their own territory, we told you. The Cardinals kick the
field goal. They leave the forty nine Ers three nothing
midway through the second while the Chargers continue to lead
Denver three nothing, ten thirty four to go to until

halftime in that contest. And in Seattle it is all
Seahawks against the Saints today. What a day for Tory
Horton returned to punt for ninety five yards for a
touchdown for the Colorado State rookie the fifth round. Big
He also then caught a touchdown pass from San Darnold
from fourteen yards out to extend the Seahawks lead. Seahawks
also getting into the end zone on a Kenneth Walker

the third touchdown run and a Jackson Smith and Jigba
touchdown reception. We do that for fantasy purposes. Monty Belanios

Yeah, Naji got hurt in the backfield on the play
action in fake He just was running up and turned
his ankle and it was very unfortunate. It was very
funny to look at when I saw it live, but
when I found out he was hurt, you know, I
kind of changed my tune. But yeah, it could be
the Ol Marion Amari Hampton time right now in Taja Land.

They've been waiting for him to break out. Has had
a slower start to the season. In fact, after their
game in Brazil, he and Naji Harris kind of split
carries in that game last week against the Raiders on
Monday Night football. Short week for the Chargers and right
now up ten nothing on the Broncos and the Bears
lead the Cowboys fourteen to six. Killer Williams two touchdown
passes as they play in the Windy City with nine

minutes to go until halftime in the nation's capital. It
was quite a day for the Commanders and their backup quarterback.
Let's focus on that. It's time to bring in Mark Slaith,
who called the game on Fox Sports as the Commanders
took care of the Las Vegas Raiders earlier today back

at his old stomping grounds of DC. Mark, great to
have you, and it felt like the Commanders didn't miss
a beat today. With Jaden Daniels on the sidelines of
Marcus Mariota taking over as the starter in week three, I.

Know, you know, you've got to go back to Marcus
Mariota his organ days when he won a Heisman and
this offense fits him perfectly. And sitting down talking to
Clok Kingsbury, talking to Marcus Mariota, he just felt incredibly
confident going into this game. And I went back and
looked at the last last year, in two significant two

games where he got significant playing time, he was lights out.
And this week and unlike those weeks, this week he
got to actually work at it and got the practice
and so he was tremendous throughout the entirety of the
game decision making process. And I'll tell you what. The
Commanders just came out and absolutely thunder punched the Raiders

in the mouth. They beat them on special teams with
the return game, also the coverage game. They beat them
on defense, tying the front end together with the back
end and getting lots of pressure on Gino Smith. And
then they ran the ball. I mean they just beat
them up run of the ball with two hundred and
two yards rushing with three different guys carrying the majority

(15:37):
of the load. So it was a thorough shellacking top
to bottom.

Speaker 2 (15:41):
You know, it's crazy about that, Mark.

Speaker 4 (15:43):
I think Marcus Moriot has been an excellent backup for
the Commanders as well, but and him getting a chance
of sign. I think he did a great job. But
I want to talk about the commanders and their playmakers.
When I look at that tam, there's not a lot
of guys that strike fear and the opponent. So in
the game plans ways and when they come into the game,
like what is the commander's I think game plan for game.

(16:04):
I know what changes, but what's their identity?

Speaker 3 (16:07):
Yeah, well, I think today obviously it was just absolutely
running the ball and they changed out two of their guards.
So they changed out their two starting guards and went
with backup guards and Chris Paul at the left side
and Andrew Wiley at the right side, and they dominated
a line of scrimmage. They're still working through Josh Connery

(16:28):
and he's you know, he's had his issues, to be sure,
but you know, you look at what he's played. He's
played the Giants with Thibodeau and with Burns and with
Abdul Carter. Then he played Gary, and he played Michael
Parsons from Green Bay and today he got Max. He
got Max mad Max over therek Crosby. So I mean

(16:49):
I was like, man, I would be laying in the
fetal position, sick of myselm.

Speaker 6 (16:52):
If I had to face all those guys in my
first three, first three stars in the NFL. But listen, man,
he had a share of issues, to be sure, But
if you can make it through that murderers row, I mean,
you got to be sitting there going really like what's next.
And then you know their mixture of figuring out Deebo
Samuel on how to make him fessel and he was

(17:15):
big time today.

Speaker 3 (17:16):
And then McLaurin, although he had a little bit of
a quad strain, but I kept saying, they kept throwing
little snag grouse just underneath things, little hitch routs. To McLaurin,
I go, it's just a matter of time over before
they take him getting one deep. And they did hand
one deep to him and hit him on a double
move and he was awesome. I thought he scored, but
they ended up marking just short.

But he had you know, he had that explosion today.
So they've got some They've got some players. Their run
game is pretty special, especially with he had the quarterbacks
ability to make it an eleven on eleven games.

I want to go to the other sideline's run game,
and that's the Raiders. Because Chip Kelly's first year offensive coordinator,
Peak ar obviously taking over as the head coach, we
thought there would be a lot of running and Ashjad
Genty somehow got brought into the mix this week where
there was some criticism towards his game and analysts on
another network saying that he he doesn't have it. Genty

(18:13):
had seventy carries sixty three arts today, his best game
as a pro. But I don't know if that's going
to win your football games. What's happening right now with
the Raiders running game and specifically with the rookie, well.

Speaker 3 (18:22):
They're getting their ass kicked up front. I mean, like
this kid is going to break one. He's going to
be fairly special. So I don't know who thinks that
he didn't have it, but he is. He is pretty special.
He'll run people over. You know, he's five to eight
and about two hundred and I don't know fifteen pounds
and he's got quickness and agility. He has got to

(18:45):
learn like he's got to learn that. You know, every
mill is not a smorgasboard. Sometimes you just got to
eat the appetizers and you know, and you're not going
to break sixty. You're not going to break sixty or
runs you know every other play, and so learn, you know,
learn that, learn the defense, what the weakness and the
strength of the defense is. You know where you're going
to be forced to cut back and all those things.

(19:07):
So that's something that he's got to continue to learn.
But man, he ran his He ran his asshole today.
He ran hard and tough. They're not very good upfront.
I'll just be frank with you. The right side of
their offensive line got dominated today. And I'll tell you
the commanders right now. When I line up the commanders,

(19:28):
they don't have anybody that I would fear going on
one with. There's nobody there on their defensive line except
drawn pain from the standpoint of he can dominate inside.
But there's no edge pressure or no edge rushers that
I would look at and say, oh my god, how
are we going to block that guy? And they couldn't
block anybody today.

Speaker 4 (19:45):
I'm glad you said that, Mark, because I was going
to go with how inconsistent Gino is. But if you're
saying the line is that bad, then that definitely kind
of lends, you know, lends some support to the answer
I was looking for. But also, what's up with brock Bauers.
He is he injured or what's going on with that,
because he wasn't that much involved today.

Speaker 3 (20:04):
Yeah, he's had a knee injury. But I'm telling you, man,
they're playing, They're playing in Washington, They're playing a bunch
of cover one and a bunch of just matched three,
and they they match guys up, and I'm telling you
their coverage was one of the things that allowed them
to get their quarterback five or six times. Gino was

(20:24):
under constant arrest, and I thought they did such a
good job when somebody released, you know, if it's two
or three released in the year, side, those guys are
grabbing them and matching them right now, and so there
was nothing deep. And then just the combination coverage, you
know of grabbing the guy that gets into your zone,
letting one guy pass and jumping on another guy. I

(20:47):
thought that back in I'd be really interested to hear,
you know, when you go back and have a chance
to look at it. You know, on coaches, he can't
send the game when you're calling the game, you know,
oftentimes it's you know, it's harder to kind of rewind
and look at that stuff. But I'm telling you they
did a phenomenal job of matching guys when they got

(21:07):
in their zone and dropping guys. Had one bust and
coverage late at the end where Saintrus Still's got outside
leverage and he's forcing him into safety in what he
thought was in the middle of field safety and they
were playing a shell and you know, and he got
behind him and Tucker can out run just about anybody
on the planet, so that one was over. But for

(21:29):
the most part, man, they were solid, and they didn't
make those mistakes until late when they were probably just
playing when they were trying to just play zone and
give you the underneath stuff and let you know, trade
completions for time on the clock.

Denver's in the end zone as his Dallas Monty Millennials
will have an update in about one hundred and twenty seconds.
But I want to ask Mark slaur At this before
we let him go. He was on the call of
the Commanders winning against the Raiders. Today. You want a
Super Bowl in DC, And the big news this week
is the DC City Council making the final improvements to
allow that team to go back to the RFK site.

I've been to DC once. I never saw a game there,
wasn't able to. I think there are a lot of
fans like me. What was it like at that site
And what does this recent news mean to this community
and that organization as they're going back to where they
played so such great football for so many years.

Yeah, when I got drafted to Washington at that time
in nineteen eighty nine, man, the Washington Redskins were a
crown jewel of the NFL. And I'm telling you what,
this community has been starved. They love Washington, they loved
the Commanders, they loved the history of the Redskins. And

RFK was special. I mean it was old, you know,
it was a dump, but man, the fans that get going,
and that whole stadium, the whole like the whole lower
level would rocket, that would go up and down, would sway.
And I'm telling I had so many great memories, you know,
in their time at RFK in the playoffs, they're eleven

(23:03):
and one in the history of that stadium in the playoffs.
And you know, I got to make a Super Bowl
run there where we just ran roughshot through the rest
of the NFC. And I'll there forget on a rainy day,
just beating the snot out of the Atlanta Falcons and
it's twenty I think it was twenty four to seven.
I mean it was just a sheeting rain and they
gave out these cushions. Everybody sat down. You can see it.

(23:25):
You can go google it and watch. And as the
game you know, winds down every sixty five thousand or
sixty thousand whatever, it was all through their cushions into
there like frisbees, and they all came flying down on
the field and it was just like it was a
great it was a great atmosphere, a great place, a
great place to play in the district. And it's just

so cool that they're going to come back there.
