Speaker 2 (00:22):
Kevin, Hey, okay, there's been a time back on the
old Finite podcast. We played some sound drops and all
we hear is.

Speaker 3 (00:33):
I mean I was trying to play her jingle there
first there where you go. That's here's the jingle that
has been requested by people that have heard us here
on Fox Sports Radio. Now, this may have started with
Petros and Money locally in l A, but it is
going national.

Speaker 2 (01:01):
Let's to be honest. It actually started when Petros Matt
we're national here at Fox Sports Radio, and they were
following at the time Pat O'Brien and Steve Hartman, who
were doing a show together.

Speaker 3 (01:10):
Well, I mean, that's that's tough to follow.

Speaker 2 (01:14):
Say it to my face.

Speaker 3 (01:16):
That was in there, Like, we got a lot to
work with. Now, this is the full FNA experience that
you guys are getting now. But we are very proud
to be here on Fox Sports Radio. FNA on FSR.

We got a friend of ours, speaking of VM five
seventy l A Sports. You know him, you love them.
The great Rodney Pete will join us here. Former USC quarterback,
former Detroit Lions quarterback, Eagles quarterback, Raiders, Panthers, Dallas Cowboys.

Speaker 2 (01:59):
So wash the well Cowboys for a year, the old
Washington Redskins for a year.

Speaker 3 (02:03):
He's been around him.

Speaker 2 (02:04):
Keep me so he got around a little.

Speaker 3 (02:05):
Bit, Nothing wrong with that.

Speaker 4 (02:06):
It's my quarterback.

Speaker 2 (02:07):
Hey two, I can get around, so can Rodney. Peter
worse for me.

Speaker 3 (02:10):
So we're excited about that.

Speaker 2 (02:12):
Rodney. People join us.

Speaker 3 (02:13):
In the second hour. We also have the return of
one of our biggest features here on F and A.
It is the NFL six pack and Kevin has been revamped.

Speaker 2 (02:21):
Yeah, you have six different categories spanning the National Football League.
Now on the old definite podcast days, we will recap
the previous weekend about things that happen. Now we're gonna
look forward into the upcoming weekend. Six different topics, six
different teams, scenarios, coaching situations, whatever we fancy, we'll talk
about that. That's gonna be coming up at the top
of the next hour.

Speaker 3 (02:40):
Well, of course, have Breeze three a little bit of
geek news for you. Maybe if we have time, we'll
get into stuff going on in the NBA with Steve Baumer,
Kawhi Leonard, and the Los Angeles Clippers, because if we
don't talk about it, people are gonna call me out.

Speaker 2 (02:53):
That is yeah, for those who don't know. Adam Alslon
is the pregame, halftime and postgame host for the Clippers.
Ashley on our thank you, Ben Mallard. That's right, Ada
on our local affiliate A five seventy LA Sports. So
we will acknowledge that that happened. The Kawhi Leondard, Steve Barber.
Steve Barmber spoke, feel like we just did it if
we covered I don't necessarily know about that, but we

(03:15):
have a lot of football to get into in these
three hours, and not a whole lot of time, so
time permitting, we will definitely get to that, but we
gotta go first off and talk about what happened on
Friday night in South Polo.

Speaker 3 (03:28):
That's wrong, you know, Kevin. This is fortuitous that we
got the instant replay machine working tonight, specifically because you
know what sound we've never had much use for. That's right,
A little block of street Fighter too. Yeah, that's where
we're going right now.

Speaker 2 (03:47):
Before we get to the game that happened and the
great performance by Justin Herbert and the and the Chargers,
and if it's a statement win, if you can have
one in Week one of a seventeen game season, just
the idea of the NFL playing on a Friday night
like the NFL, and I think we talked about this
a couple of weeks ago about how they just dominate
literally anyone and everyone when it comes to the schedule,
and they will play any night Christmas on a Wednesday,

(04:09):
We're in black Friday, done.

Speaker 3 (04:12):
Or anywhere anytime Christmas.

Speaker 2 (04:14):
Day that used to be sacred to the NBA. Lebron
James ll leave us. That's our day, nah, No, King James,
the crown, the crown is ours now.

Speaker 3 (04:22):
The NFL is king and they got a monopoly. So
either way, we had that sound before anyone.

Speaker 2 (04:27):
We did keep going, so I get My question is
do you have an issue with the NFL trying to
play whenever and wherever it possibly can for a money grab?

Speaker 3 (04:35):
Okay, that's basically.

Speaker 2 (04:36):
What it is.

Speaker 3 (04:36):
I have to come clean about something because we had
a debate maybe eight years ago now on the FNA
Podcast before it became the FNA Show here on Fox
Sports Radio with the.

Speaker 2 (04:46):
FNA Boys, and I was wrong.

Speaker 5 (04:48):
Am I wrong?

Speaker 3 (04:50):
I was dead wrong. I was arguing back then that
I wish we had a football game every night of
the week.

Speaker 2 (04:57):
Oh, you're on the Anthony Gargano plan, all right?

Speaker 3 (04:59):
Is he?

Speaker 2 (05:00):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (05:00):
Subscribing to that.

Speaker 2 (05:01):
I've had many a debate with Anthony about this. Yes,
he wants a game every single night.

Speaker 3 (05:04):
Here's the problem with that. And I've seen the light. Kevin,
You're right, I was wrong. You're very good looking. I'm average,
the old happy Gilmore here, go.

Speaker 2 (05:14):
On, go on, continue your Carl Weathers.

Speaker 3 (05:18):
We've gotten a real healthy sample size now Thursday night
football games and the quality of those games this last
Thursday notwithstanding, because they're still not thrown off schedule yet
because the Sunday games haven't started. The quality or lack
thereof in those Thursday night games, regardless of the matchups,
because we've gotten good matchups and better matchups of the

(05:39):
years have gone along. But the problem is the football
quality is poor. It is low because one team may
be coming off a little bit shorter of rest, or
both teams are just on short rest, and it throws
them off rhythm. People in sports, I hear they are
creatures of habits, these athletes, and that stuff matters, and

(06:00):
I just tend to think if they try to do
them every day of the week, there's going to be
even more poor quality football games.

Speaker 2 (06:06):
Also, just hard to predict what's happening. A team plays
on Tuesday one week, which means they have to play
probably Wednesday or Monday of the next week, and just
everything is off kilter. You have this system that's been
in place for so long that has continued to work.
Why would you mess it up now? If you're plugging
in a Thursday night game. Fine, I guess I was
kind of opposed to that outside of Thanksgiving and other holidays,

(06:27):
But if you want to do it every single week
to kind of kick off the NFL week with a
Thursday game. Fine, doesn't bother me too much. But we're
talking about Tuesday and Wednesday and Friday, which because of
anti trust law, they can't even do Fridays and Saturdays
up until a certain point. I just think it's a
little bit too much. And I think one thing that
works in the NFL's favor, what makes it so great
and so popular is it scarcity. Just based on how

(06:48):
the schedule is built to begin with. You make it
even more scarce by virtue of the fact that it
is not available on an every single night basis.

Speaker 3 (06:55):
Leave them wanting more, Yes, give them a tease. These
are all things that work. I'm with you. I think
there can be an oversaturation of the product.

Speaker 5 (07:04):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (07:04):
Well, Plus, I mean, not to cut you off, but
it's an event on Sunday mornings. If you're on the
West Coast, Sunday afternoons wherever you may watch football to
watch to try to keep an eye on four or
five six games going on. Yes, you can't hone in
and focus on all of them, but realize if they
spread them all out throughout the week, unless you have
no life whatsoever, you're not going to be able to
hone in and pay attention to every single game every
single night anyway.

Speaker 3 (07:25):
No, and with red Zone and our friend Scott Hansen. Yes,
commercials now Scott Scott Hanson. Oh excuse yeah, that's Chris Hansen.
That's the difference. There's only like two minutes of commercials
over seven hours.

Speaker 2 (07:36):
Like it's like fifty to three or four fifteen second
pods of spots.

Speaker 3 (07:40):
I under seven hours of commercial free football. I'm sorry.
It was never going to last. Eventually, they were going
to get their hooks in with the marketing somewhere. But yes,
you give them an inch, they'll take a mile. I'm
worried where this could go down the line.

Speaker 2 (07:52):
You know. I actually had hope for Scott. That's that
maybe he can actually step out and go to the
bathroom for half a second if you but fifteen seconds.
I don't think it's gonna work for him. So Yasquez
in at least thirty forty five or something, you know.

Speaker 3 (08:03):
But Sunday is more of an event because you pack
in so many games and the NFL is specifically king
on that day outside of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ,
of course. But I just want to make the point
you were right.

Speaker 2 (08:17):
I was to bring this up for you to pat
me on the back and say that I'm right.

Speaker 3 (08:20):
I saw it on the rundown. It was very clearly
underlined and highlighted by Bree Adam. You were wrong about this,
You dumb ass, You dumb as That part's right, Okay,
Well this time, yes, history was on your side. And
I will defer to you with all things NFL, including
tonight's ball game. We could start with this.

Speaker 2 (08:39):
Well, you deferred to me tonight when I said that
the Kansas City Chiefs were not going to win the
AFC West, and I said the charges were clearly as
we saw on Friday night. That's what's gonna happen. Why
I haven't played the remainder of the season. Okay, just
go straight to the playoffs right now. One and AH
is all you need right now. Why are you looking
at me like that?

Speaker 3 (08:55):
Bree, your studio, your your head is taking up too
much room in this studio. Current over now, you do
look really good because there are specifically people that have
been listening to this show over the last month here
on Fox Sports Radio that have come at you pretty hard.
On x at KFIG one saying, Kevin, you're gonna be wrong.
The Chiefs are gonna win the division for the tenth

(09:16):
straight time. You're trying to jump on the Chargers. They
lost their left tackle. Why are you still predicting them
to win the AFC West. Well, tonight, you're looking pretty smart.

Speaker 2 (09:26):
H It's one night. Obviously this means nothing, but it
does mean I'll say this because I do think the
Charges to a certain degree kind of won a game
of chess, at least for Friday night, because everyone expected
them to come out and run the ball. That's Jim
Harball and Greg Roman's bread and butter, and they did
not do that. Yeah, they came out throwing the ball
left and right, and I think Kansas City was kind
of called off guard by it.

Speaker 3 (09:47):
Justin Herbert in the first half on play action passes
was six for seven for one hundred and twenty eight yards.
They had Kansas City completely off their heels or off
their game and on their back feet, on their back foot.
This was Jim Harbaugh, I think, getting Justin Herbert even

(10:08):
more comfortable now in his second year with this offense.
You could see it out there. He knew where to
go with the football. Each and every time, and when
a guy has that bad of a performance in the playoffs,
sometimes we forget how talented and how generational he can be.
And I don't know how much of a statement it
can be in week one, but it's not nothing considering

(10:31):
they had lost what seven in a row to the
Kansas City Chiefs, their division rival, and in six of
those seven games, the Chargers lost in one score games,
and tonight they had to come through late. They did.
Justin Herbert rolled out, got the first down to is it?
And you had Chris Ford and Trank while yelling at

(10:51):
each other in fighting with Kansas City.

Speaker 2 (10:54):
Already is game one? Yeah about the Kansas City defense too,
well one you made jim Mshawn Slater being out for
the season. How big of a blow for the Chargers
offensive line. I think Kansas City broke through a little
bit in the second half, but for the most part,
the Chargers offensive line, rebuilt offensive line over these past
three weeks kind of dominated the line of scrimmage. Justin
Herbert was clean the majority of the night. And this

(11:14):
is a vaunted Casey defense. And I've talked about Stas Bagnolo,
and he's one of the great defensive coordinators in the league,
and I don't know why he has not gotten another
head coaching opportunity. Hey, look, Kansas City's defense is still
going to be good. Maybe they just won't be dominant,
or maybe it's just a one week anomaly. And you again,
they didn't know what to expect that the that the
Chargers were going to come out and throw the ball
all over the field.

Speaker 3 (11:34):
You probably didn't expect Quinton Johnson to be catching now
and I dropped them. Yeah, I mean that guy has
taken a lot of heat over the years from Chargers fans,
I mean.

Speaker 2 (11:44):
To a certain degree, rightfully. So you were a first
round pick, no doubt, a high first round pick at
that Uh.

Speaker 3 (11:50):
The main reason I knew tonight was different was because
when he caught that touchdown, not only did he catch it,
there was a hold on that play on the Chargers
that was not called against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Speaker 2 (12:04):
Or something actually broke the Charges way for once, is
what you're saying.

Speaker 3 (12:07):
And things didn't come up roses for the Chiefs with
getting a call at the right time to take away
a score like That's when you know things are different.
When the Kansas City Chiefs aren't getting calls.

Speaker 2 (12:18):
Yeah, I'd say so. I do think that the Kansas
City defense might take a little bit of a half
step back this year, which some predicted. Now the other
side of that coin, people thought the Kansas City offense
would actually be much improved over last season because last year,
despite the fact that they have Patrick Mahomes, obviously, they
were pretty middling when it came to offensive efficiency scoring points.

(12:38):
They were kind of middle of the pack in pretty
much most offensive categories. And that you know, Xavier, You're
worthy in year two when you get Rashi Rice back.
But the big issue was when Xavier Worthy went down
on the first drive with the shoulder injury. I'm pretty
sure that mucked up a lot of things as far
as their game plan because if you noticed too Adam,
in the first half, they took a lot of shots downfield,
and it was one of those things that was a
point of emphasis in the offseason that they wanted to

(13:00):
get to throwing the deep ball more and not have
to do manufacture these twelve thirteen fourteen play drives and
be methodical and be more explosive. Losing Worthy hurt that
they still tried it, and I think in the second half,
they kind of went back to more of what they
did last season and what worked.

Speaker 3 (13:14):
For him well. And despite Travis Kelcey getting a touchdown
when nobody was even fifteen yards next to him, like
he was so wide open that he could outrun the defense,
he doesn't look the same. I don't think he's the
same player. I think he's starting to slow down. He's
not going to be able to beat defenders like he
used to.

Speaker 2 (13:34):
This low down the last two years.

Speaker 3 (13:35):
Also don't know what the running with the Bulls celebration
he was doing was in Brazil like speak Portuguese, it's
not Spanish. I have no idea what he was trying
to do there, But you mentioned the receivers being out
It felt like Patrick Mahomes was putting a lot on
his own plate. He was rushing the football more and

(13:57):
you did. If you're looking for silver linings here with
the Kansas City from their perspective, I know you're not Kevin,
but Chiefs fans are, like you know, he looked pretty
damn good. He looks like an MVP version of Patrick
Mahomes with the way he was moving out there and
being able to put more on his plate. Because of
the guys that were out. He had two of the

(14:17):
most special throws you'll ever see from a quarterback.

Speaker 2 (14:21):
Across his body. Both times.

Speaker 3 (14:22):
Yeah yeah, One he's parallel to the field, he's knocked
prone and somehow he found what Juju Smith. And then
the other he's rolling out on a fourth down to
find a receiver before Khalil Mack was able to get
to him. That's vintage Patrick Mahomes. So I'm not overly
concerned about him or the offense if they're healthy. But

(14:45):
if these injuries continue to mount and we don't know
the extent of it with Worthy right now, you wonder
is it going to be too much over time for
Patrick Mahomes to have to carry this team? And oh,
by the way, a Super Bowl rematch is coming next
week for them. It is an arrowhead, but there's a
real good chance they start off this season zero two.

Speaker 2 (15:04):
Yeah. Well, I guess one saving grace for the Kansas
City two is that Patrick Mahomes has been the ultimate closer.
I forget the exact stat off the top of my head,
but they had won like eight seven or eight straight
games one possession games, I mean, so he's been mister
clutch pretty much the entirety of his career with Kansas City.
So if he has the ball in his hands with
the game on the line, generally speaking, they're gonna come

(15:25):
out on top. And this happened multiple times last season,
I mean almost more often than not. The majority of
their wins maybe damn neary maybe even all of them
were all one possession victories.

Speaker 3 (15:36):
Well they were ten and oh yeah, there you go
in games decided by seven points or fewer last year.
Now they're zero to one in one game so far
this year.

Speaker 2 (15:45):
Only one, and again didn't have the ball in his
hands when it mattered, the defense couldn't get a stop
and the Chargers were able to kneel down on it.

Speaker 3 (15:52):
Justin Herbert, by the way, he came into this game
being a guy who nobody had thrown for more yards
more touchdowns against the Chiefs since twenty twenty than Justin Herbert,
but he also had the most losses. It was kind
of that tough luck position he had been in where
even though he would play well at times, they couldn't close.

(16:14):
This feels like two things going on, and you could
take either side of it. This is a game or
the type of game the Chargers lose last season, you
could also say as the type of game the Chiefs
would win last season, and tonight things flipped in the
Chargers favor and Justin Herbert put together his best regular
season performance of his career. I guess you could say
postseason as well, because we know both those haven't been there.

Speaker 2 (16:36):
So that's one thing too, I wanted to talk about
because obviously one game one victory in the regular season
is not going to necessarily turn the narrative when it
comes to Justin Herbert, who ultimately if he's going to
change the narrative on his career to this point, and
it's very young, he has plenty of time to go,
it's gonna have to happen in the postseason, but it
is going to be games like this in primetime on
a big stage, when you outplay the best quarterback. Some

(16:58):
have already called him the best quarterback of all time,
or at least in that conversation in Patrick Mahomes. You know,
it's definitely meaningful, but look, we've seen him do this before.
I harken back to the last game of the regular season.
I don't know if it was twenty twenty one or
twenty twenty two when the Chargers played the Raiders. The
game got flexed into a Sunday night and the winner
basically was going to make it into the post I
think the Chargers needed to win to make the playoffs.

(17:19):
The Raiders needed a win or a tie to make
it into the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (17:22):
Oh, this was the end of game botch situation by
Brandon Staley, right, of which there were many, But there's
two or three different occasions in that fourth quarter where
you thought the Raiders were gonna win and Justin Herbert
just made spectacular play after spectacular play. He was great
in the first half against Jacksonville before everything fell apart
or were.

Speaker 2 (17:40):
They have twenty eight nothing something like that. Yeah, it
was a huge lead.

Speaker 3 (17:43):
It's not like he hasn't had big moments.

Speaker 2 (17:45):
He has the talent, he has the ability, he has
the wow factor to him. It's just making those plays
when it matters most, in the most important situations. I
eat the postseason.

Speaker 3 (17:54):
I'm not gonna say tonight was everything with him getting
this win over the Chiefs, but I do think it's
me from this perspective, with how bad they went out
in that playoff loss to the Texans. We're going in.
I would say, if the Chargers played to their best abilities,
they're going to win that game. They're the better team.
But Justin Herbert was woeful. There was a lot of

(18:16):
pressure on him tonight. Yeah, to clean the slate, clear
the mechanism, whatever you want to say. And he did that.
He made us forget about that performance a little bit
and give you that thought that, Okay, he's twenty seven,
his best years are in front of him. Is this
that point where he takes a huge step forward and

(18:37):
becomes a more transcendent quarterback because all the talent is there.
I say this all the time because I watched him
with the Oregon Ducks so much like they underutilized him
throwing the football.

Speaker 2 (18:48):
That was a very arcade passing game. Arcaic. They didn't
throw it a lot. They want a rose ball. Justin
Herbert basically running the ball and for the most part
we didn't know that he could dish it like this
and why people questioned why he was taking so it
was like this guy didn't show anything in college to
make you think he'd be a top flight NFL quarterback
or top draft pick.

Speaker 3 (19:04):
It was between him and Tua right the pairing with
him and Jim Harbaugh specifically, who is such a competitor
and a former quarterback. He knows what it takes under center,
and there's a toughness to him that I think can
translate well to Justin Herbert. Should he have any demons

(19:27):
by what's happened and what's transpired in the past in
the playoffs, I think he can shake those loose. Under
Jim Harbaugh, who by the way, is now six and
zero in a season opening games as an NFL head coach,
there's a lot going in their favor right now. And
once again Kevin Figures, try to tell y'all, no Chargers
win the AFC West. I mean, we probably need to

(19:47):
see how the Denver Broncos look before we crown him.

Speaker 2 (19:50):
Something tells me the look okay this weekend coming up
against Tennessee. But week one, you never know, Crazier things happen.
We are broadcasting live from the Fox Sports Radio Studios.

Speaker 3 (21:16):
Got some catching up to do. Okay with what happened
last week in college football? There was some epic fails
going on. Your failure one from a coaching standpoint, one
from a player that was over hyped to some degree,
maybe by some people, by some not us talking about

(21:39):
Bill Belichick and Arch Manning. Now, which one of these
two guys is gonna be able to turn things around quicker?

Speaker 5 (21:46):
Here?

Speaker 3 (21:46):
I wonder, because Bill Belichick to me, heck that opening
drive things were looking good. He must have been feeling
real nice.

Speaker 2 (21:53):
Is that the old Bill Walsh script?

Speaker 3 (21:55):
The first drive situation must have been because everything was
downhill afterwards, But first that must have felt like dating
a girl who is twenty five when you're seventy five.

Speaker 2 (22:04):
Oh, he knows nothing about that would mean.

Speaker 3 (22:05):
It was going so well for Bill Belichick to start
things off. Someone actually said when the score was forty
one to seven that that's also the same age difference
of Bill Belichick and Jordan Hudson in two thousand and one,
forty one to seven.

Speaker 2 (22:22):
Well, I didn't like the photo the besides by side
photos of like Jordan Hudson being born, and then Bill
Belichick being introduced as the head coach of the Patriots.
I thought it was pretty fun.

Speaker 3 (22:31):
The Air Jordan emblem they were using, yeah, was also
pretty good.

Speaker 2 (22:36):
I then, so I have all the stars come out.
MJ was there and all these celebrities, and it's one
thing to lose, but to get run off of your
own home field by no disrespect to TCU and I
like Sonny Dykes, a middling big twelve team pretty embarrassing,
it says embarrassing as he gets.

Speaker 3 (22:54):
Especially because they looked completely out of source. They were overwhelmed,
they were disc that did that look like poor coaching?

Speaker 2 (23:03):
It looked like they were overwhelmed on the offensive and
defensive lines. And when have you ever been able to
even when the Patriots struggled at the very end of
Bill Belichick's tenure, it was rare that you say they
got out physical and physically dominated on the lines. That
never happened to a Bill Belichick coach team. Now they've
had a lot of turnover. He brings in seventy new guys.
Who doesn't Okay, who doesn't.

Speaker 3 (23:22):
That's but it was his first game coaching in college football.

Speaker 2 (23:26):
I will give him a little bit of he invented football.

Speaker 5 (23:30):
What do you mean.

Speaker 3 (23:32):
Not to me? That would be Rodney pet who's coming
player in the show.

Speaker 2 (23:35):
He just has a little bit of a holier than thou,
you know, and he kind of always has. It's endearing
when Greg Popovich, you know, was kind of being an
a hole to like sideline reporters and all that he
was winning a lot of games and it became part
of his stick. Sure, the problem with Bill Belichick is
it's not stick, that's just kind of who he naturally
is on a Cincinnati Yeah, so if you're going to
be that way, you better win because if not, and

(23:58):
you have incoming like this, it's a really really bad
look and a horrible way to start.

Speaker 3 (24:02):
I did think he was strangely accommodating to the media
after such a pathetic loss compared to the stuff he
did with the Patriots.

Speaker 2 (24:09):
Well, here's the problem. Is it strange look at all
the things that have happened around North Carolina since he's
gotten there, The fact that he's dating Jordan Hudson, the
fact that he was in negotiations with Hard Knocks. They
wouldn't give Jordan enough creative control, so they said no
to HBO or HBO actually said no to them. They
went to HULU, who said, sure, we'll take it. The
trademarking of what was it, sugar daddy, baby daddy, what

(24:31):
was it?

Speaker 3 (24:32):
That's just smart business man.

Speaker 2 (24:33):
Yeah, sure, sure it is whatever. So you're cold digger,
thank you. Yeah, same difference. He's all of this stuff
that Bill Belichick would never have been caught debt doing
when he was in New England. It was all about
do your job, don't let the distractions seep in. He
had issues with Tom Brady and his trainer and his
avocado shakes and all this stuff and not being a
part of the team. Now, all of a sudden, Bill

(24:53):
Belichick is doing the exact opposite of everything that he
preached for twenty years in New England, including to your point,
being accommodating and talking to the sideline reporter before the
game and she talked about his cut off, his stupid
cutoff sleep sweatshirt. All right, thank you. What you do
now is get run off your own home field by TCU.

Speaker 3 (25:13):
Maybe he has to get back to nasty stubborn never
wants to be accommodating Bill Belichick to bring out the
best in his football team. I do think it's premature
for everybody to come out right now and say, well,
Tom Brady was the real brains of the operation. Tom
Brady won the divorce, and this is a legacy moment

(25:33):
here for Bill Belichick. If he struggles in college, then
more people are just gonna say it was all Tom Brady.
Bill was lucky to be along for the ride with
the Patriots, and the part's ridiculous.

Speaker 2 (25:43):
And people who said that after Tom won the Super
Bowl at Tampa Bay.

Speaker 3 (25:46):
I can't take it. You know, I'm a Tom Brady truther.
I know Rob Parker here at Fox Sports Radio has
been calling him the lot for a long time, and
I don't always agree with Rob in this way. I
do because there are four plays outside of Tom Brady's
control that would take away four rings very easily, of course,

(26:09):
starting with the tuck rule against your Raiders, the Malcolm
Butler interception, the Robert all For drop pass for the
Atlanta Falcons that went right through his hands, the d
four off sides play against Kansas City. All that stuff
was outside of his control and win his way somehow,
like he's got a horseshoe with four leaf clovers and

(26:32):
rabbit feet tucked up somewhere speaking of the tuck rule,
and that has been carrying him for a long time.
So I just want to make it very clear where
I stand on Tom Brady and Bill Belichick. Bill Belichick
put together those defenses that were always top five when
they won the Super Bowl. I'm not going to act
like what happens at North Carolina is going to define
him as a football coach. No, I would never say

(26:53):
that unless he gets beat by forty every game.

Speaker 2 (26:55):
Well, I don't think it's gonna happen. Now. They go
out and give even if it's close against Charlotte. And
this is not Biff Pogi, who is one of the
great characters in college football, and it's a shame he's
no longer at the University of Charlotte. I don't know
if you know Biff Pogi. He was a Jim Harball disciple.
He would wear basketball shorts and sleeveless T shirts. As

(27:15):
the head coach at the University of Charlotte, he was
just let go. I think two years ago.

Speaker 3 (27:19):
Harbaugh's a Khakis guy.

Speaker 2 (27:20):
Though, No, I mean Biff Pogi would have put it
on you. So I have very little doubt that North
Carolina's gonna end up beating the University of Charlotte, and
they they like Archer, will get to in a little
bit have some cupcakes coming up. So if they're ever
going to get some momentum and be able to turn
it around, it's gonna be in these next couple of weeks.
I'm just not a fan of how Bill Belichick has

(27:41):
just handled this entire situation. You had the Kayl and
Kaylor report that came out from ESPN a couple of
days ago that he and Michael Lombardi have banned the
Patriots from sending scouts to practices, and not only that,
they've put all these restrictions, which they're within their right
to do.

Speaker 3 (27:57):
We don't want, but you spying on us, that's what
that's our thing.

Speaker 2 (28:01):
You can't take that away. And as someone asked Mike
Rabel about it on Friday, and he was like, well,
you know, that's their decision. Mike's not gonna throw Bill
Belichick under the bus, obviously that's his guy. But putting
all these restrictions on scouts, just trying to put everything
as tight lipped as possible, and no one can view
our practices and what's there to see based on what
I saw on Monday night, there's nothing to see anyway that.

Speaker 3 (28:22):
Mum's the word muzzle. Stuff with the media has not
turned out well for college football coaches as of late.
I'm looking at one of my favorite Panthers is Sean
Foster and how things gone have gone at UCLA.

Speaker 2 (28:34):
You know UCLA plays football in LA right, Well, I
learned that. Okay, just making sure that his Big ten
media make you sure you knew that.

Speaker 3 (28:41):
I thought that was pretty insightful.

Speaker 2 (28:43):
Now when it comes to Arch, there's a more layer
here because to your point, he got so much hype
coming in and none of this is his fault. It's
never the kid's fault, Arch, he just has. It's fortunate
in many senses because he wouldn't have been rated as
highly in all of this. But it's unfortunate because the
expectations are so high with the last name Manning. If

(29:05):
his last name were not Manning, he wouldn't have gotten
into this hype. He wouldn't be making however much he's
making an nil. I'm sure it's a Crapton at the
University of Texas. I don't know what it is, but
I mean again, there were scouts who were saying, if
his last name weren't Manning, he'd be a three to
three and a half star recruit who'll be a solid player,
and maybe he'd be able to break through and start
as a junior for a Power five program, but be

(29:26):
nothing necessarily special.

Speaker 3 (29:28):
People are saying after that loss to Ohio State, with
how poorly he played, that Arch could be working at
the Golden Arches if it wasn't for him having the
last name Manning. They were saying that far. They said,
we were comparing him to the wrong oncle. We should
be comparing him to Uncle Rica, Uncle Rico from Napoleon Dynamite.

(29:50):
Like with his throwing form, it was that bad there.
But I just want to remind people that you can't
have a much tougher opener in a road game then
going up against one hundred and twenty thousand at the
Horseshoe as your real coming out party to show what
you can do as the starter. So I don't I

(30:11):
think he was shook more than anything. Some of those
thrills are it's not because he can't make them, it's
because he was shook. He was rattled. He was in
his own head and then everybody piles on. As predicted
by his father Cooper Manning six months ago. He knew
exactly how the media would treat him after the first
time he struggled.

Speaker 8 (30:34):
I think having your children struggle with some things is good.
I mean, yeah, it's frustrating not to play. Did he
love it?

Speaker 9 (30:41):
No?

Speaker 8 (30:42):
Was it probably good for him in the long run, yes,
And so you know, you know, you don't want your
kiddos to come home and be unhappy. But at the
same time, sometimes going through a little hardship and some
bumps in the road are are good. Archie is gonna
have plenty more of those. You know, these are the
real ones when you get beat this year throw have
bad games. I mean they're you know, you know how

(31:03):
they do in the media. They they crown you.

Speaker 4 (31:05):
Way too early and they jump on and kill you.

Speaker 8 (31:08):
So he's getting over way too much attention and way
too much credit, and he's gonna struggle and they're gonna say.

Speaker 2 (31:13):
He's not as good, he's overrated.

Speaker 5 (31:14):
It's coming.

Speaker 4 (31:15):
We are right, knows it.

Speaker 2 (31:16):
By the way, his uncle Peyton got this when he
was at Tennessee because what was the big thing for him?
You can put up all these yards and all these stats,
but when it matters, you couldn't beat Florida. You can
never win a national championship. And the very year that
you leave as the number one overall pick to the
Indianapolis Colts, some guy named t Martin steps in that
quarterback and Tennessee wins the national championship. Like this sort

(31:39):
of thing follows a lot of great players. Now, the
problem is Arch doesn't have the pedigree of Peyton, obviously,
but it's unfair to put these sort of expectations on him.
So but I do agree with Cooper, it's trial by fire.
If you are going to end up making it, these
are the moments you're gonna have to face and come
out of that adversity and see if you can grow
from it.

Speaker 3 (31:58):
I just have a hard time against anybody that young. Yeah,
I have a hard time doing but especially somebody who
point out that he's getting undeserved attention. Yeah, seems like
he carries himself with some humility. He seems like he
knows that he hasn't squashed a grape yet, He's done nothing,
and he's been overhyped by people who will swing the

(32:23):
other way immediately as soon as he has a bad performance. Hey,
it's not his fault that Paul Finebaum and who was it,
Dan Orlovsky, those guys were talking him up like that. Yes,
his last name's Manning. Also not his fault. He is
in a really tough spot.

Speaker 2 (32:41):
Well, you know, I think Desmond Howard said something really
interesting earlier this week. He says, because his last name
is Manning, and people don't want to run a foul
of the Manning family because they have a lot of power,
especially in college football. The Manning Passing Academy is an institution. Anybody,
any quarterback that's worth his salt over the last decade,
has gone through that academy, and sc outs are there
and coaches are there, and there's a relationship there with

(33:02):
the Mannings and David Cutcliff and all that, and they
don't their criticism. They will try to find ways and
highlight ways to say that, oh, this wasn't necessarily Arch's fault,
somebody ran the wrong route or whatever. And Desmond's like,
I'm watching film and this guy's missing reads left and right.
Is I'm not trying to be overly critical. I'm just
trying to be honest. And there's a lot of people
in our industry that do not want to be honest
because they're afraid of being overly critical because of what

(33:24):
the Manning family might say.

Speaker 3 (33:26):
Like there's some mafia kind of over your shoulder listening
to every critique.

Speaker 2 (33:31):
You haven't think. I don't think off base for saying that,
by the way, But to get back to.

Speaker 3 (33:36):
Our original point here, between him and Bill Belichick and
what's going to happen moving forward and who has a
better chance of turning things around, Well, Bill's legacy, he's
a made man. Even if he really struggles.

Speaker 2 (33:48):
He could be MJ with the Washington Wizards. It won't matter.

Speaker 3 (33:50):
And as you mentioned, the schedules decent. They got Clemson,
but they don't play Miami or Florida State this year.
Arch Manning, he's still carving out his career here. He's
the one under much more pressure. And by the way,
they got to go on the road to take on
the Gators and the Georgia Bulldogs. They're likely going to
have three losses and that means there's a good chance

(34:13):
you're not gonna make the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (34:15):
Well, we'll see. I mean, the thing is Texas has
their their roster overall is pretty amazing. So we mentioned
these next three weeks, they don't play Florida. I think
until next month. He's got time to build up some confidence.
They have three consecutive games against you know, no disrespect
but cupcakes for lack of a better term. So if
he can get some confidence, wrack up some wins, get
some stats underneath him. I think I know that sark

(34:37):
wants to be able to run the ball and play
with defense and not necessarily have to have arts drop
back forty five times a game to win, because I
think right now they know that they can't do that.
So the idea that he has all the pressure on
the shoulders to literally go out and win every game
for Texas is unrealistic. And I think Steve Sarkisian knows
that he just needs to be able to play within
himself and make plays when necessary.

Speaker 3 (34:55):

Speaker 3 (36:09):
So we got Rare video games are making people a
lot of coin, you could say, and I don't mean
Rare is in the gaming company Rare that gave us
classics like Donkey Kong Country.

Speaker 2 (36:20):
A check Foo.

Speaker 3 (36:22):
Okay, I don't know if they did Jaqufu but maybe
they did GoldenEye Jack, Who's not a classic? Not my book.
I'm more of what was the Michael Jordan one in
the Windy City?

Speaker 2 (36:31):
Oh yeah? Are the Charles Barkley one shut up in
jam Yeah? Or you would say, go get the damn
ball if it bounces away from you.

Speaker 3 (36:37):
No, I'm talking about rare games that have remained sealed,
are in perfect condition, have been graded and sold at
auctions for the type of life changing money in the
upwards of two million dollars. That's what a mint condition,
unopened copy of the original Super Mario Brothers on any
s win for in twenty twenty one. Now do you
know the stories of an old lady who had a

(36:59):
sixty nine Mustang collecting dust in her garage for forty
years and so it only had fifteen thousand miles on it,
The little old lady from Pasadena type things. Well, this
grandmama bought a copy of Super Mario Brothers for her
nephew and Christmas of nineteen eighty five.

Speaker 2 (37:13):
Well, that was nice for Larr Johnson to do that.
That was very sweet of them.

Speaker 3 (37:16):
Forgot about it. Oh even an actual grandma not okay,
not converse related. This grandmama left it untouched in a
drawer for thirty six years, and the nephew eventually sold
it in twenty twenty one for a record two million
dollars at Heritage Auctions to an anonymous buyer, probably because
they didn't want anybody tailing them after they paid that

(37:38):
much for a.

Speaker 2 (37:38):
Game that is unbelievable.

Speaker 3 (37:40):
The latest story isn't quite as lucrative, but it might
remind a few of you to dig through the attic
and make sure you aren't sitting on a Chaos Emerald
like gem of a game and not even know it.
This week of father and Son won uped a retro
gaming store in Vegas that didn't know what they had.
The store is called Pink Gorilla Games, which started in
Seattle but branched out to Sin City back in May.

(38:02):
This father and son were savvy collectors, Kevin. They found
a copy of try to Follow Me Here Ego Macon,
originally released on the Famicom that's the Japanese nees It's
called Famicom Okay back in nineteen ninety.

Speaker 2 (38:17):
I'm following you so far.

Speaker 3 (38:18):
They're hardcore retro gamers in the US, and some of
those people have ANYS systems that can play a USA
cartridge or a Famicom cartridge. It's not that uncommon for
the retro people. But the game Ego Macon, it's interesting,
and that is it's a virtual representation of the actual
Go board game. It teaches you how to play the

(38:41):
Go board game, which is said to be the oldest
board game ever invented back in China twenty five years ago,
twenty five hundred years ago. I should say, okay, maybe
not twice time. It was such a young country, right,
It's pretty basic because it's so old. One player has
black stones, the other has white, and the goal to
take over more of the board. Why they have to

(39:02):
be black versus white, I don't know. They didn't step
into the technicolor which Dorothy yet you know. But the
rare video game was being sold for the lo low
price of eleven ninety nine at the retro shop in Vegas.
But I guess there's a series of them and they're
being sold on eBay for one thousand bucks. So the
kid gets it for twelve dollars and then on social

(39:23):
media posts how he can't put into words how happy
he is, especially because of the price tag on this game. Well,
the post got some traction. The store found out how
much this game was going for that they gave it
away for twelve dollars, and they actually took the high road.
They responded to the post and said score ore f up,

(39:44):
they're gained.

Speaker 2 (39:46):
They just say, hey, give me my damn video game back.

Speaker 3 (39:49):
There was no amount of bitterness for selling an one
thousand dollars game for eleven ninety nine. I like that approach,
Like maybe a stock boy still got fired here, but
they at least are like, hey, it's going to a
good home. And they gave them props. They said, sometimes
you can get one over on the pros. They didn't
grade it well enough in the store. These retro gamers

(40:11):
found it and can make a pretty penny if they wont.

Speaker 2 (40:13):
Hey good for them. I won't pay three hundred dollars
for Xbox console, let alone for a actual game. I
don't care how old or knew it is. That's ridiculous
to me.

Speaker 3 (40:20):
But it's about a game that's twenty five hundred years old.
This board game. People are show into board games now.
I never heard this go.

Speaker 2 (40:27):
I got one thousand dollars I'd rather spend elsewhere. How
about coming up next, the debut of the NFL six
Pack here on FSR. Don't go anywhere.

Speaker 1 (40:36):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 2 (40:39):
That's why Kevin Figures Adam Austin with you guys on
Fox Football Saturday FNA on FSR. Hit us up onto
the Socials on x atkfig one is where you can

Coming up in about twenty minutes or so, we'll speak
to longtime NFL veteran now host on AM five to
seventy LA Sports Rodney Peats, talk about the first game.

(41:00):
Jitters talk about some of his memories of Opening Day
playing football in the NFL, playing.

Speaker 3 (41:05):
With Barry Sanders.

Speaker 2 (41:06):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (41:06):
I mean he's one of my all time favorite players
because he played for my Carolina Panthers.

Speaker 2 (41:12):
These are not your Carolina Pathers.

Speaker 3 (41:13):
Correct, We'll get to that. Okay, things have changed over
the years. They have glitter on their helmets with the silver.
It looks bad. But this is our first edition and
a revision to an old segment we've been doing for
a while called the NFL six Pack.

Speaker 2 (41:30):
I'm curious to hear.

Speaker 3 (41:31):
This sounds.

Speaker 4 (41:34):
Time for the NFL six pack.

Speaker 2 (41:39):
Okay, do you guys like that one? That's pretty good.

Speaker 3 (41:43):
That's one way to approach it. Six pack of drinks,
possibly adult beverages.

Speaker 2 (41:50):
Oh, could have been soft drinks there at him. You're
a monster over there, Lacroix, something like that.

Speaker 3 (41:57):
You guys like it? Ray?

Speaker 10 (41:57):
I mean, how long have you guys been doing this segment?

Speaker 2 (42:00):
Long time? Love, very long time.

Speaker 3 (42:01):
Remember that game we were talking about that's twenty five
hundred years old, that board game. That's how long we've
been doing the NFL six pack here on FNA.

Speaker 11 (42:09):
Yeah, so just shout out, Ricky Herrera. I thank you
so much for the imaging. It sounds perfect.

Speaker 3 (42:13):
And thank you Mike Linguard and Curious for hooking us
up with the instant replay machine here Mike, Lenny.

Speaker 2 (42:21):
Big, Mike Linguard the only other Keller on a Panther
fan that I know other than you.

Speaker 3 (42:25):
Yeah, there's only two of us exactly. There's only going
to be based upon how this season is likely to go.
So we got six different categories to get to here, Kevin,
do we want to run through them all or just
get to the ones we're going to do here? Right now?

Speaker 2 (42:39):
Let's get through the ones we're going to do here now,
and we'll give you a little explanation as to what
they are as we go through them.

Speaker 3 (42:44):
Okay, So all these kind of get us into some predictions,
some analysis, a preview of Week one of the NFL season,
starting with the hot seat. Heat check.

Speaker 4 (42:57):
Hot seat heat check.

Speaker 3 (42:59):
Yeah, that's why I just said the hot seat. That
was it? The hot seat?

Speaker 2 (43:05):
All right, Kevin, you want to start things off coach
or player that you believe is under the most pressure
this coming weekend. So now, granted, how much pressure can
you actually have in Week one? You know, that's up
for debate.

Speaker 3 (43:17):
It could be based off of something that happened.

Speaker 2 (43:19):
Last year, Yes, and it is. And that person, to
me is Caleb Williams, and that's coming up on Monday night.
His father complained the entire time through the draft process
about the Bears not helping his son and he shouldn't
go there, and he tried to get an ownership stake
in the team and tried to convinced teams not to
draft him. It was a whole thing, now, Caleb, so

(43:40):
his credit really didn't say a whole lot of anything.
All of this was being filtered through his father. Well,
now the infrastructure seems to be there. They have one
of the best offensive coordinators in the NFL who is
now his head coach, who was one of the most
sought after offensive minds in the entire league over these
past two off seasons. They have all the offensive weapons
in the world. They have improved the offensive line. Though

(44:02):
I don't believe that it is great, I do think
that it is solid enough. I think the excuses at
this point in time for Caleb Williams will officially be over.

Speaker 5 (44:09):
Now.

Speaker 2 (44:09):
Granted, it is just Week one and you're playing up
against going up against a pretty damn good defense, one
of the best defensive coordinators in the NFL, and Brian Flores.
But even with all that being said, I think it's
a huge Week one for Caleb Williams to show that
he has shown some growth. He is in a offense
that suits him, and he has offensive talent around him,
which he didn't have much of the last couple of years.

(44:29):
So I do think the player under the most pressure
going into Week one is Caleb Williams of the Chicago Bears.

Speaker 3 (44:35):
I don't know if this is great, minds just think
alike or mediocre minds think alike. But I'm with you, Kevin.

Speaker 5 (44:40):
Maybe you and I could partner.

Speaker 3 (44:42):
Hup. Caleb Williams, he's under more pressure than Jeremy Allen
White's character in The Bear. This bear is like he's
super stressed out. He's saying, yes, chef all the time.
But no, Caleb Williams is far from a chef. He's
not cooking yet. He's not even prepping the food. He's
the hostess, front face of the restaurant, trying to look

(45:02):
good and presentable, all dulled up with his painted nails,
ready to accommodate your party and reserving you a seat
that's much less hot than his own. Even though his
numbers is rookie season weren't that bad. No, he had
twenty touchdowns and six interceptions.

Speaker 2 (45:15):
Stat's line, all right, Adam.

Speaker 3 (45:16):
He did get sacked sixty eight times. That's big fumbles.

Speaker 2 (45:21):
And as most players, coaches, analysts will tell you, a
lot of times, the offensive line takes the brunt of
the criticism when it comes to quarterbacks getting sacked, and
a lot of times they should. But a great majority
of quarterbacks who get sacked an ungottly amount of times
it is on them and You don't even have to
be an analyst or an expert to go back and
watch some of those Bears games last year and see

(45:42):
him hold on to the ball forever. And we've run
in circles and get sacked.

Speaker 3 (45:45):
Being in southern California, we've seen him hold onto the
ball slow with processing plays. But he won't be holding
on to QB one long if he doesn't improve under
his new head coach, Ben Jonson.

Speaker 2 (45:56):
We're gonna bench him for Tyson badget, is what you're saying.

Speaker 3 (45:59):
Let's I don't know. Didn't he just get like a
new contractor he did at that? I'm just saying two years,
ten million dollars. Caleb Williams seat is hotter than a
sport pepper in a Chicago Dog and they are home
dogs Monday night against the Vikings.

Speaker 2 (46:14):
We love being to a Chicago Dog. I've been to
Portillo's in a while.

Speaker 3 (46:18):
All right, So we're on the same page so far.
Where are we going next?

Speaker 2 (46:21):
How about we go to uh trap game tap? There,
mark trap game tap. So someone who's in a bit
of a trap game, you know, the next week they
have a big opponent coming up, and this weekend could
probably get slipped up a little bit. I'm going with
the Washington Commanders. The Washington Commanders faced the New York Giants,
and look, they might be looking ahead to next Thursday

(46:41):
Night's game against Green Bay, but I would not sleep
on the New York Giants. I know they have Russell Wilson,
who has to say the least struggled his last couple
of starts the last couple of seasons. But they have
a very dominant defensive line. They're better on defense, and
I do think they're gonna give Washington problems. The combined
final last year between the Commanders and the Giants eight points,
the Commander has won both games by a combined total

(47:03):
of eight points. Regardless of how good or bad either
of these teams are, it seems to be tight, and.

Speaker 3 (47:09):
So of the records out to a certain degree.

Speaker 2 (47:11):
And look, I loved I love Jaydon Daniels as much
as anybody. I know. It's really easy to say that
he's gonna go through the sophomore slump like c J.
Stroud did last season. Maybe he will, maybe he won't.
I tend to think that he's better overall than CJ.

Speaker 5 (47:24):
And I like c J.

Speaker 2 (47:25):
Stroud. I don't think he's a bad quarterback, but I
do think jayden Is, you know, is potentially a generational player.

Speaker 3 (47:30):
They gave him some nice weapons of this pass offseason too.

Speaker 2 (47:32):
He might take a little bit of a half step
back this season, but I still think the Commanders are
gonna be a good team. But for this particular game,
I do think the New York Giants give him a
run for their money. So I do think Washington really
needs to watch out for the upset this week against
Russell Wilson and the New York Giants.

Speaker 3 (47:47):
All Right, my trap game tap here in the NFL
six pack. You may think the NFC South is a
joke of a division, because it is. And the sour
cream of the crop is supposed to be the Tampa
Bay Buccaneers because they wanted to vision at ten and
seven last year and lost close in the wild card
round two the Washington Commanders. They open up in Atlanta

(48:10):
as a road favorite, but uh yeah, two of the
falcons eight wins last year came against the Buccaneers. Sure,
the Dirty Birds may have lost six of their last
eight games and didn't win a preseason game heading into
this year, but they've beaten the Bucks in four out
of the last six matchups between these two teams in
the NFC South. Of course, now Michael Pennix, he he's

(48:34):
their starter. Yeah, he's the member of the Falcons, that
big arrow that is going to point them one way
or the other, depending on how tall and erect he
can stand in the pocket and how he uses the
protection out there.

Speaker 2 (48:49):
I see what you did there.

Speaker 3 (48:50):
I have no idea. I'm just I'm just wondering if
it could be a problem in Week one to go
up against a young quarterback that you don't have a
lot of tape on, and a team that has had
your number the last couple of years in the Tampa
Bay Buccaneers, who some people have not just going to
the NFC Championship Game this year, Sumber picking them to

(49:11):
make it to the Super Bowl at Baker Mayfield.

Speaker 2 (49:13):
That's big, and I think they have to be Health
is a big issue specifically for this game, because Tristian
Wurf's is going to be out for Tampa Bay. McMillan
I believe is out. Obviously, Chris Goblin's not going to
be there, so there are some deficiencies. I do think
Tampa Bay is a really good team obviously, and they're
probably going to end up winning the Southern Division. But
I don't think Atlanta is a team you can count down.
And I actually like this pick from you, Adam. I

(49:33):
think Atlanta probably, I'll just say it, I think they
end up beating him. I think they actually get the
victory because not only do they have Michael Pennicks, who's
has a full offseason under his belt as the starter.
If you have Jon Robinson, who people think is going
to take another step this season, if Kyle Pitts can
get back to half of the player he was in
his rookie season, he can make a difference. Drake London
is not getting any worse. I think Atlanta actually has

(49:54):
a chance to make some noise in this division this year.
So I think that's a good pick by you.

Speaker 3 (49:58):
For someone to make some noise, it has to make
some noise. Someone is going to win the NFC South.
That's how it works, all right.

Speaker 2 (50:04):
How about we get to the next category, beer goggles
skate there you go, Mark, Yes, so ugly matchup on
paper that might turn out to be actually entertaining. And
I'm gonna turn to your Carolina Panthers in the battle
of the Cats there, Adam, I actually have this. It's
low hanging fruit because it's Jacksonville and Carolina, two teams
that don't have the highest of expectations. But look, we know,

(50:26):
we know how these teams work out. It's you know what, Actually,
I'm gonna make a late switch. Okay, I'm gonna make
a late switch. Oh, a switcher was gonna like this
even better. I'm gonna go with the Bengals in the
Browns because a lot of people think that the Bengals
coming back redemption, they're gonna run the Browns off the
field with the forty year row Joe Flacwat quarterback. And
I'm just thinking about this now. This is another one
of those division matchups. It can go either way. The

(50:49):
Bengals didn't really do much to improve defensively this offseason,
to be honest with you.

Speaker 3 (50:53):
They happen to be an issue for this.

Speaker 2 (50:54):
Yeah. So granted they got Hendrickson back, thankfully for them,
but as we talked about last week, it didn't really
end up making much difference for their unit as a whole.
So honestly, I think this can actually be a situation
where it's a high scoring game. I think Joe Flekol
the old Man has some juice left in his arm.
They can score some points against that Cincinnati team, and
I think it might be one of the more entertaining,
high scoring games of the weekend. So I'm gonna actually

(51:16):
go with Cincinnati. I was gonna go with Carolina and Jacksonville.
I'm switching it up midstream and going with Cincinnati and Cleveland.

Speaker 3 (51:22):
I think that's a good pivot by you, especially because
the Bengals traditionally the last two years have gotten off
to really slow stars, miserably slow stars. All right, my
beer goggles game, though here it is the Jaguars and Panthers.
See sober me would see the Jags and Panthers game
as a toothless two am or at the bar. But

(51:43):
instead I got my beer goggles on, and I'm feeling
more like former Jaguars coach Robert Meyer. I'm rocking that barstool,
feeling as uncancellable as Dave Portnoy and that blonde the
California Three he ran the Nelly Tip Drill music video
credit card swipe with looking more like Sidney Sweeney to
me right now. Those American Eagle Jeans commercials considering the

(52:05):
condition that I'm in here in this beer goggles game,
That's how good I think this Panthers Jaguars game could
end up being. After all, this is the rubber match
between the two nineteen ninety five feline expansion franchises, with
them both being four and four against each other in
head to head matchups thus far in their existence. The

(52:26):
first meeting happened in nineteen ninety six, a year where
both squads ended up making their conference championship games just
to lose, with the Packers and the Patriots avoiding the
second year expansion team super Bowl in the NFL. Is
this the year the Cats face off in the Big Game?
I don't know, not that drug. No, I have some

(52:47):
personal interest in this game as a Panthers fan. They
are my team, and I consider the Jaguars arrival because
they answered the league together at the same time, similar
animals as team mascots. I wish bad they upon the Jags,
just like they wish bad things upon the Panthers. Otherwise
we wouldn't be stuck with Bryce young to begin with.
Hed better be Bryce older and wiser in his third season,

(53:11):
or else his career is gonna be shorter than he is,
and he already lost to the Jaguars twenty six to
nothing in his rookie season, where he had a passer
rating of fifty three point one. And the Panthers haven't
won in Week one since twenty twenty one. They're on
the road in Jacksonville against their fab y oh quarterback
and Travis Hunter on Sunday. But I don't think he's

(53:33):
gonna get one hundred snaps in on both sides of
the ball.

Speaker 2 (53:35):
To you, I would highly doubt that. Yeah, it'll be
entertaining to see. So I agree with you in there.
That was my honorable mention. I think that would actually
be a really entertaining game this coming weekend. Speaking of
the Carolina Panthers, a former Carolina Panther great gonna join us.
Coming up next on fn A on FSR, the Great
Rodney Pete talking about Week one of the NFL and
his career and so much more. FNA on FSR coming

All right, coming up in about twenty twenty five minutes
or so. We'll get back into the NFL six pack.
We gave you three at the top of the hour.
We will give you three more at the end of
this hour. But right now we got to get right
to it because we have a lot to cover at
him with one of our favorite guests, a friend of ours,
former NFL great spend what fifteen sixteen years in the NFL.
Let's get to it.

Speaker 1 (55:12):
Alan Dragan, Dude, thank you, Donny.

Speaker 3 (55:16):
Well, we're joined right now by Football Royalty. This guest
played his college ball back at USC back when they
had national championship expectations every year, and he did his
part beating Troy Aikman both times in the Crosstown Showdown.
And while he may have come in second in the
Heisman to Barry Sanders back in nineteen eighty eight, he
was first in my heart in the NFL when he

(55:36):
played for my Carolina Panthers and saved them from a
dumpster fire existence near the end of his fifteen year
NFL career. So joining us is one of my football heroes,
turn mentor, colleague and now friend. It's Rodney Pete here
in weekdays on m five to seventy LA Sports Plus.
You've watched him on Meet the Pets and Magic Johnston's
Freaking Yacht, and it's always good to catch up with

(55:59):
the international man of mystery who made the catch of
the Year back in Japan when he casually snagged that
foul ball away from Max Months he's saving his lovely wife.
It's our man, Rodney Pete here on the f and
a show on FSR. Rodney, how are we doing?

Speaker 5 (56:15):
Oh man? Man?

Speaker 9 (56:16):
Hey, Ryan's gonna have to get a copy of that
for me because I can just play that over and
over man, that was the best intro I think I've
ever had.

Speaker 2 (56:24):
You deserve.

Speaker 5 (56:25):
I'm good, fellas, I'm good. How are you guys?

Speaker 3 (56:27):
We're doing all right? Thanks for joining us. I mean,
with the NFL starting this week, Rodney, we need the
perspective of somebody who has been there and done that.
What is the lead up like for game one? As
the starting quarterback in this league? What are the nerves like?
Just the excitement level for our franchise heading into the
opening week?

Speaker 5 (56:47):
Yeah? Well, first of all, never gets old.

Speaker 9 (56:49):
You can't wait the opening day, and it feels like
it takes forever to get there. And sure, especially nowadays,
I think it feels even longer to get there because
most guys, and most quarterbacks don't play in the preseason
and so they they haven't really tasted game action until,
you know, since the last game of the previous year,

(57:12):
So your your anticipation is high. And again especially if
you didn't play any preseason game, because one of the
things that you look forward to, and I know people
probably don't believe this, but when it comes to quarterbacks
is you look forward to that first hit and and
you look forward to Okay, now now I'm in it.

Speaker 5 (57:31):
Now it's it's real. And until you get.

Speaker 9 (57:34):
That, it's it's that you know, that anxiousness, that nervousness,
those butterflies, all those things rolled into one and then
you take that first hit and you're like, Okay, it's good.
It's it's game time. This is real football. Let's go.
So it's uh, it's it's exciting because every team, at
least theoretically every team feels like they got a shot.

Speaker 5 (57:53):
To make the playoffs in Week one.

Speaker 9 (57:55):
So you know, they feel like they've worked hard and
they've got the tools, they brought in the right guy.
They feel like, hey, if we can get off to
a good start, then maybe we got a shot.

Speaker 3 (58:05):
Have some faith, have some hope.

Speaker 2 (58:07):
Now.

Speaker 3 (58:08):
Yeah, we've been talking about depth charts a little bit,
Anthony Richardson being passed over for Danny Dimes. And we
brought you up a couple of weeks ago, Rodney, because
we were doing a segment talking about players who got
screwed in their careers. And I know you would never
say this, but I felt like, we'll say it. You
being benched in the first half of Game one back

(58:30):
in two thousand and three by John Fox and the
Carolina Panthers for Jake Dell Home. I mean, that was
a big move at that time, a bold move at
that time. Take us behind the scenes. What's the conversation
like that, because I mentioned it in the intro. You
took this team from being one and fifteen to seven
and nine. You helped them get six more wins when

(58:52):
you came in. You did so much for the franchise.
And then the very next year, the first game, all
of a sudden, you're getting benched.

Speaker 5 (58:58):
Yeah. Yeah, it was.

Speaker 9 (59:00):
It was tough, man, It really was, because I felt
like that previous year, as you mentioned, you know, the
morale of the Panthers was horrible. One in fifteen it
was it was, I want to say similar, but it
was almost like that year that I took over for
Chris Winkie because I didn't know it wasn't in the game,

(59:22):
but I didn't know I was going to start until
that Wednesday of that week.

Speaker 5 (59:26):
It was Chris it struggled with.

Speaker 9 (59:28):
The new offense and new coaches and all that he
struggled the year before, and they leading up to Week
one he was going to go and be the starter.
And then I think they had all got and had
a conversation with the owner because you know, Chris was
their number one pick from the year ago, and the

(59:48):
owner said, and they asked him that, you know, do
you want to how do you want to play this?

Speaker 5 (59:52):
This?

Speaker 9 (59:52):
Do you want to go with the guy we drafted
in the first round last year and see if you
can player?

Speaker 5 (59:57):
Do you want to win?

Speaker 9 (59:58):
And that was a simple question for for Jerry Richardson
at the time, and he told him, hey, let's go win.
Let's go win, and so they decided to go with me.
We end up beating Baltimore in that first game that year,
and so I'm sure, I'm sure it was difficult on Chris,
you know, kind of being the second year, thinking he's
gonna have that opportunity to grow, and he really didn't.
You know, for me in that previous year too, we

(01:00:20):
finished four I think we won four of the last
five games, and so there was a little momentum going
into the next season, and you know, you would think,
or at least I believe that I would have the
opportunity to play at least two or three games, right
and if I stunk it up for two or three games,

(01:00:42):
then they make the move. But certainly had no idea
that that was coming in first half of that game
against Jacksonville and we weren't necessarily getting getting blown out either.
I think it was like maybe ten or fourteen or
nothing at halftime or something like that, and we definitely
did struggle moving the ball.

Speaker 5 (01:00:59):
A little bit.

Speaker 9 (01:01:00):
But man, they came to me at halftime and said, hey,
we're gonna We're gonna go with Jake, and yeah, it
blew my mind.

Speaker 5 (01:01:08):
It was a tough blow and uh, but you know,
you deal.

Speaker 9 (01:01:12):
With it and you just move on and just stay
ready because you never know when those opportunities are gonna
come back again.

Speaker 5 (01:01:16):
So if you, you know.

Speaker 9 (01:01:18):
Put your hand in the sand and go, you know,
f that and uh, you know, I'm done with this
team or whatever, and all of a sudden something happens
to him and you got to go back in the game.
Your mindset is off, so you got to stay ready,
even though you're pissed off.

Speaker 2 (01:01:30):
Fifteen year NFL veteran Rodney p joining us here on
f sixteen.

Speaker 4 (01:01:34):
Don't tell me short, excuse me.

Speaker 2 (01:01:35):
I don't want to. I don't want to steal that
you were in Washington away from you. There, Rodney, My
apologies there a sixteen year NFL veterans, Yes, Rodney p
joining us here F and a on f SR. So
I want to go back to something you said in
your first answer about the optimism that most teams have
going into every single season. And I'm sure that's absolutely true.
But in the back of your mind, and you played
for a lot of teams in your career, was there
ever a time breaking camp where you said, Ooh, I

(01:01:57):
don't think we got it this year, man, this is
gonna be tough. Ever once in any of your teams
that you played for across your mind like, this is
probably going to be a really tough year for us.
And if so, how do you deal with that mentally
knowing that you might kind of have a defeatist attitude
going into the season before it even starts.

Speaker 9 (01:02:11):
Yeah, I'm trying to think of those years. Yeah, I
think it was probably it wasn't Detroit because when I
first got to Detroit as a new coaching well, Wayne
Fonson was an interim coach year before and then brought
in Mouse Davis and June Jones, So it was a
lot of hope and excitement about the run and shoot
coming to Detroit. So we went into you know, those

(01:02:32):
years actually feeling pretty good. And we I think oftentimes
when I was in Detroit those five years, we finished
the season pretty strong, so we felt that we were
just a step away. But in typical Detroit fashion, every
time you got close, they would either trade or not
sign back key players on our team, and it really,
you know, set us back. I would say maybe the

(01:02:52):
only time was my last year in Philly and it
was ninety eight and I wasn't I wasn't going into
the season as a starter. Bobby Hoyne was, and you know,
they had drafted, drafted Bobby, and they wanted to give
him a shot. And we had struggled the year before

(01:03:13):
and played rotating quarterbacks with me and ty Depmurra. And
then Bobby finished up and played the last three games
of that year when we were totally out of the playoffs.

Speaker 5 (01:03:21):
So he was slated to start the first game.

Speaker 9 (01:03:23):
But I remember they brought in an offensive coordinator named
Dana Bible, and I don't want him throw him under
the bus, but he came from college. He was at
Boston College, I believe, and then it was at some
other places. But the offense that he implemented just was
very very basic and just not NFL worthy.

Speaker 5 (01:03:47):
It really wasn't.

Speaker 9 (01:03:48):
And you know at that time, I had already been
in the league for eight years, and it's like, man,
this is we're going to struggle. Because we struggled in
every practice against our defense. And then we struggled all
pre season long, and I'm talking about every quarterback struggled
to move the ball.

Speaker 5 (01:04:04):
It was.

Speaker 9 (01:04:05):
It was really like a a high school college team
trying to run an offense against an NFL defense.

Speaker 3 (01:04:11):
Was that mobile offense where you only got.

Speaker 4 (01:04:14):
Pretty much pretty much pretty much.

Speaker 9 (01:04:17):
So yeah, so that year it was like, man, this
is this is this is not looking good. And by
the way, in that year and the ninety seven year,
they Sean Payton was on the staff, Gruden brought him in,
was on the staff, and in ninety seven he Gruden
left and went to the UH went to the Raiders,

(01:04:38):
and so Sean Payton was there. Yet they didn't move
Sean Payton up. They brought in Dana Bible. And we
couldn't believe it because Sean, we knew Sean put in
all the work. He was he was the grunt guy
back in Philly when I was there with him.

Speaker 5 (01:04:54):
But he knew his stuff.

Speaker 9 (01:04:55):
He was smart and just ambitious and hungry, and we
thought it was a perfect move just to allow him
to do it, and plus he'd learned under Gruden and
all that. So when that didn't happen, that was another blow.
We were like, man, why didn't they just give the
job to Sean keep everything the same instead of bringing
somebody new in and have a new offense. And so
that was another thing that made it struggling. And then

(01:05:18):
we got blown out by Seattle in that first game.
It was like, Okay, this is gonna be a long year.

Speaker 3 (01:05:23):
Rodney Pete is our guest here on F and A
on FSR. So, Rodney, you finished top two with Barry
Sanders and eighty eight for the Heisman. Then you're playing
with him in Detroit. Was there ever a surreal moment
for you where you're like, you know, I'm gonna soak
this in a little bit when I'm handing the ball
off to this player. He may go down as the
best ever.

Speaker 9 (01:05:43):
Oh yeah, oftentimes, man, you know, to see him, You know,
Barry was exceptional because everything was so effortlessly done with him,
but yet he was magical with the football in his hands.
And I often got yelled that in film sessions the
next day, because you know, as a quarterback, when you

(01:06:04):
hand the ball off, you're supposed to basically fake like
you still got it, to hold the defense in position
to make sure that they are not closing on on it,
and try to hold the defensive end so he can't
crash down. And I became the worst faking quarterback in
the league because I as soon as I'd hand it off,
I just want to watch it. Because he would just

(01:06:24):
do so many things. And some of his best runs
were for like two yards or even just getting back
to the line of scrimmage.

Speaker 5 (01:06:32):
So he was absolutely amazing, amazing.

Speaker 9 (01:06:37):
And you know, he didn't show a whole lot of emotion,
which is weird for a guy that talented to not
get overly excited when you do something big and jump
up and down. He rarely did that. He would crack
a smile from time to time. But as you guys
remember just flipping the ball to the referee and then

(01:06:58):
going to the sideline sitting down, and that was barry.
But yeah, he absolutely was incredible, in my opinion, the
best that ever ran.

Speaker 5 (01:07:07):
Ronnie.

Speaker 2 (01:07:07):
Can we bring you back to what happened on Thursday
night at the start of the game, right after kickoff,
and the incident between Jalen Carter and Dak Prescott and
the whole spitting situation. I've talked to you in the
past and you talk about things that happened at the
bottom of piles and things that get pulled and twisted
and turned. But I mean, there's very few things that
can measure up to utter disrespect to a man then
spitting at him. So we saw what Dak Prescott did.

(01:07:29):
Much later we found the clip of him spitting in
the grass in front of Carter and then Carter walks
into his face and does that Had you ever witnessed
anything like that throughout your playing career and if so,
how did you react?

Speaker 5 (01:07:40):
No?

Speaker 9 (01:07:41):
No, I mean there is always trash talking, and you know,
you guy's gotten fights and things like that, But like
you said, there's nothing more disrespectful than spitting in somebody's
face or spitting on somebody. And that's like, you don't
even have to be taught that. You know that as
a kid growing up up, you know that as you

(01:08:01):
get older, it's like that you really want to disrespect somebody,
you spit on him and the fact that he did that,
and it was clear Dak spit in the ground.

Speaker 5 (01:08:11):
He wasn't spitting at him.

Speaker 9 (01:08:12):
And first of all, that's not Dak's mo o that
he's not that kind of guy that would do that,
just unsolicited.

Speaker 5 (01:08:19):
So it was ugly. It was ugly.

Speaker 9 (01:08:21):
I'm glad that he you know, Dyln Carr said he
was sorry it was a bad move afterwards, But man,
that should have never happened. What I you know, I
guess couldn't quite understand why there wasn't a full melee
after that, you know, you know, because you could see
it was like in front of other people and it
didn't go full melee after that happened.

Speaker 5 (01:08:43):
But no, I can't.

Speaker 9 (01:08:44):
I can't ever remember anything happening in practice or in game.
Now guys gotten fights and went and tried to get
trash cans or wrench or something.

Speaker 5 (01:08:54):
Like that tool to go beat somebody with.

Speaker 2 (01:08:57):
The Actually you witnessed somebody grab a wrench to try
to attack a team.

Speaker 3 (01:09:04):
Be careful, era a bunch of plumbers if you do that.

Speaker 5 (01:09:09):
Fighting on the sidelines.

Speaker 9 (01:09:11):
And the guy went into the equipment box and grabbed
a wrench out of the equipment box and was going
to attack the guy before you know, other guys grabbed him.

Speaker 5 (01:09:19):
No, we had some.

Speaker 9 (01:09:20):
We had some straight out felons on our team sometimes
from now and especially in Detroit and and and UH
and Philly. And when Ray Rhodes was the head coach
at Philly, he brought in some gangsters and some guys. Man,
don't get him angry, don't get him. Man, you don't
know what you're gonna do.

Speaker 3 (01:09:38):
Is this dodgeball? You can dodge the right, You can
dodge the ball.

Speaker 5 (01:09:41):
Exactly, all right.

Speaker 2 (01:09:42):
I know you have some great you have some great
Ray Road stories. And for those who do are listeners
who might not be familiar. Head coach of the Eagles
was a great defensive coordinator for many years in the NFL.
What is one of the more team I guess that
we can actually say on nationwide radio there, Rodney, what's
a good Ray Road story that you can tell a
Foxport audience.

Speaker 5 (01:10:00):
I don't know there is a tame one. It really isn't.

Speaker 9 (01:10:03):
He was legendary and and I was I was fortunate
enough to play with him for four years in Philly.
But legendary. The night before Saturday, night before Sunday game.
You know, you have your little snack and then you
have a quick team meeting and usually the coaches, you know,
well head coach will get up and just kind of
give you something to sleep on and get you ready

(01:10:24):
for the next day.

Speaker 5 (01:10:25):
We all knew from.

Speaker 9 (01:10:26):
The first time Ray gave those speeches that Ray had
a couple of pops before he would come into that meeting.
And he would come in and we knew he was
drinking some kognak and he probably was drinking like four
hours before that meeting, and he come sat.

Speaker 5 (01:10:41):
Saying in you like, here comes Ray Bob.

Speaker 9 (01:10:43):
We called him Ray Bob, and he's like, get ready
for this one. And it was every I wish we
had cameras on our phones back then, because he would
have it would have been filmed and it would have
been out right now somewhere.

Speaker 5 (01:10:57):
But he We're getting ready to play Dallas.

Speaker 9 (01:10:59):
And he was in rare form and Dallas had beat
us earlier in the season on.

Speaker 5 (01:11:04):
A Monday night game. And then we had him back at.

Speaker 9 (01:11:08):
The Vet, the little Dirty Vet, late or early in December,
and it was freezing cold that time in Philly. But
Saturday night Ray comes in Dallas had been you know,
talking a lot of trash and all that kind of
stuff like.

Speaker 5 (01:11:20):
They normally do.

Speaker 9 (01:11:21):
And Ray was just fed up because Ray Ray had
a real dislike for Dallas during his times as a
defense coordinator at San Francisco, the battles that they had
back in the day with those guys, so he knew
that and just couldn't stand the cowboys. So he comes
in and he's like, we are taking no prisoners. You
got to treat this like your life depends on it.
And I'm talking about somebody coming into your home blanking

(01:11:44):
your wife, blanking on your couch and then wiping with
your curtains.

Speaker 3 (01:11:50):
Geez, good lord, I'd be disrespectful.

Speaker 2 (01:11:55):
I was there just a little bit, my god.

Speaker 9 (01:11:57):
In your own home while your kids watching, and he
got you tied up.

Speaker 5 (01:12:03):
I can't see. He just kept going. He just kept
going and going and going.

Speaker 9 (01:12:08):
And then at the end he said, now tomorrow, if
you mf was, don't ball up your fist and fight,
I'm gonna kick y'all ass. But it was it was
that colorful on a regular basis. Every Saturday night, it
was you.

Speaker 3 (01:12:20):
Guys win by twenty or what he did?

Speaker 5 (01:12:22):
Win the game?

Speaker 9 (01:12:23):
Yeah, right, it was the I don't know if you
guys remember it was the game where we stopped him
fourth and one. Emtt Smith stop. We stopped him fourth
to one, and then they ran the same play. They
called a penalty and they called or they had a
time out, but the play was.

Speaker 5 (01:12:37):
Run and so they got a do over and they
ran the same play.

Speaker 9 (01:12:40):
We stopped him again and we ended up winning the
game on a on a field.

Speaker 5 (01:12:43):
Goal after that.

Speaker 9 (01:12:44):
But but yeah, it was it was a big time,
big time moment because that that helped propel us into
the playoffs that year.

Speaker 3 (01:12:50):
Rodney, last one for you quickly here because you know
the position you played through some injuries. Is Matthew Stafford
gonna be able to get by this season with that
back injury?

Speaker 4 (01:12:59):
Like?

Speaker 3 (01:13:00):
Is he going to be able to do what he
needs to do for the length of the season for
the Rams to get where they're trying to go.

Speaker 9 (01:13:06):
Here's the thing, it's the biggest mystery in the NFL,
right And it was the biggest mystery because before training
camp we didn't know he had a bad back. We
thought all and then all of a sudden he's not
practicing and then he's certainly not playing any games and
that is the question what happens? And I mentioned earlier,
you know when we started that you can't wait for

(01:13:27):
that first hit, even if you're a quarterback. You want
to feel that you're playing football again. And so what
happens after that first hit from Matthew Stafford, not necessarily
a sack, but after he releases the ball and he
gets hit and lands on his back or lands awkwardly.
What happens then? I think we will know. We will
know a lot in this first game that the Rams.

Speaker 5 (01:13:50):
Play of how he is going to hold up.

Speaker 9 (01:13:54):
Because if he is able to successfully get hit, get
up and not re injure or or mess his back up,
I think they're okay. But I think we're gonna get
a lot of answers in this first game. Back is
a crazy thing because back it affects everything, especially as
a quarterback.

Speaker 5 (01:14:12):
You can't play with a bat or even a sore back.

Speaker 2 (01:14:15):
Oh just don't get hit the entire season, Rodney. That's
how you prevent that. That's how you do it exactly.
Just don't get that.

Speaker 9 (01:14:21):
I know the Rams are excited about their offensive line,
but I don't tell.

Speaker 5 (01:14:24):
You is the great cowboy line of the early nineties.

Speaker 2 (01:14:30):
Not that Yeah, Late Newton, they walking through that door
sixteen years sixteen in the NFL. Now a co host
on our Los Angeles affiliate AM five seventy LA Sports
from noon to three pm with Fred Rogan. Rodney pet
thanks for once for joining us.

Speaker 4 (01:14:41):
Man.

Speaker 2 (01:14:41):
This has been fun. We appreciate it.

Speaker 5 (01:14:43):
You got it, guys, anytime, anytime, love, you got.

Speaker 3 (01:14:46):
Our guy, Rodney p from A five to seventy LA Sports.
You hear him weekdays with Freddie Rogan.

Speaker 2 (01:14:52):
You see him stealing Baha balls file balls from Max Muncy.

Speaker 3 (01:14:55):
That was kind of a big deal. He went viral.
He did big time viral. As if he hasn't done
that enough. If you see him on Magic Johnson's yacht.
Did you see that drone zoom out shot where Magic
is on the treadmill and then you get the full
picture not Sam I don't know, on the Mediterranean or something.
It's impressive.

Speaker 2 (01:15:12):
Reality show star King's Court, in Queen's Court on Peacock.

Speaker 3 (01:15:16):
He's our Magic Johnson basically.

Speaker 2 (01:15:18):
Yeah, he's one.

Speaker 3 (01:15:19):
Of the most famous people that we're friends with. Rodney Pete.
Coming up next, we got to finish off our NFL
six pack, including our O Troy Potential category. We'll explain
what that is next. It's FNA on FSR.

Speaker 2 (01:15:36):
Welcome FNA Cotton a little altered beast. I love it
the FNA on FSR. Back with you guys at k
FIG one at follow out to me is where you
can find us on X.

Speaker 3 (01:15:48):
Coming up next hour the players we love to hate on.

Speaker 2 (01:15:52):
Huh.

Speaker 3 (01:15:52):
But first we got to continue our NFL six pack.
We only got to three of them so far. Hot seat,
heat check, trap game, tap beer goggles game. But now
and we'll explain, it's our oh Troy potential category. This
goes back to what year twenty sixteen. This is the
Seattle Seahawks and a wild card game in Minnesota against

(01:16:16):
the Vikings, and Blair Walsh missed a twenty six yard
field goal to win it for the Vikings, and we
pulled the best reaction possible that went viral from this.
And apparently the guy's name who's a little bit older
because he had a cane was Troy. Here's how he

(01:16:36):
reacted as a Vikings fan to that missfield goal by
Blair Walsh.

Speaker 1 (01:16:40):
Oh, I say, oh.

Speaker 12 (01:16:41):
My god, he missed it. Oh my god, Oh Tris,
I'm so.

Speaker 3 (01:16:59):
Sorry, and it's very memorable the life trying to console him.
Oh true, I'm sorry.

Speaker 2 (01:17:07):
It just sounds had a very sarcastic tone.

Speaker 3 (01:17:09):
Maybe she was a Seahawks fan. I don't know, but
this basically means an epic fail, something very bad that
could be happening. So we're calling this old Troy potential.
What game for you has o Troy potential this weekend, Kevin,
I'm going to Green Bay with the Detroit Lions. I
think this might have some old Troy potential for Detroit.

(01:17:29):
New offensive coordinator John Morton for Jarrett Golf. I know
he was on the staff last year, but no Ben Johnson.
You can have the same offense in place, but the
play guy who's calling the plays and setting you up
makes a big difference.

Speaker 2 (01:17:41):
Frank Ragnow is now retired. Now they have Michael Parsons
coming off the edge for the Packers, even if it
might be in a limited role. I think this game
has potential to be ugly for the Detroit Lions. I
think green Bay Packers are really jazzed up, have some
extra umphin there with Michael Parsons, and I can actually
see green Bay winning this one. I won't say that
they're going to run him off the field.

Speaker 3 (01:17:59):
But I'd say fairly all right, my Old Troy potential
game is the same, but for different reasons. Here, the
Green Bay Packers lost both games of the Lions last year.
In four starts against the Lions, Jordan love Is won
and three with six touchdowns to five picks. I'm not
saying if they lose to the Lions it's an O
Troy epic fail. But i am saying they just made

(01:18:19):
a huge trade for Micah Parsons that is being unanimously praised.
But if they got damaged goods because Micah Parsons needs
a bacchiotomy and can't play as he is questionable on Sunday,
that is concerning. He's getting epidurals like he's going into labor,

(01:18:40):
so you know the pain is bad. And we all
thought the back injury was a ruse. Initially, that was
just him getting out of being fined in case the
contract negotiation with the Cowboys extended into the regular season.
Apparently it's very real now. Ultimately, I think he plays if.

Speaker 2 (01:18:58):
You're legitimate concerns about his back. They're not trading a
couple of first round picks in our Pro Bowl defensive tackles.

Speaker 3 (01:19:03):
Right, and he had to get a physical But if
his speed and explosiveness, which he relies on are greatly lessened,
that could hurt the pack. My guess. He still has
two sacks on Sunday summer exactly, and the cheeseheads are
happy they gave him all that sheddar.

Speaker 2 (01:19:18):
Let's try to quickly get to one more before we
take a.

Speaker 4 (01:19:20):
Break under the microscope.

Speaker 2 (01:19:21):
Under the microscope game or player everyone should watch closely
this weekend. I'm going to the Bayou the Saints Breeze
Saints taking on the Cardinals. I think Arizona a big
time sleeper in the NFC West this year. Their defense
and has approved every single year under Jonathan Ganyon. So
I think this could be a statement game for Arizona.
I think they go down there to sit to the
Saints and put it on him pretty good.

Speaker 3 (01:19:41):
You know, my under the microscope was a little bit different.
I'm putting the entire Week one of the NFL season
under the microscope and going back to what happened last
season to see if there's any patterns to know if
what happens in Week one actually is meaningful or not. Well,
to start off last season, Kansas City beat Baltimore. Yep,
they went on so the Super Bowl. The Ravens were

(01:20:02):
all so good. Philly beat Green Bay in Week one
last season. They beat them again in the wild card weekend.
Since he lost to New England in Week one of
last season. That was an upset and the Bengals went
on to have a disappointing season. I mean, there's some
real stuff that happens in Week one that can linger.
I thought it would tell me when I look back
on last year. It's not that meaningful. Apparently it is.

(01:20:26):
So Week one matters.

Speaker 2 (01:20:27):
It means everything. Oh not everything, but it does mean
a lot. To your point, it's very important.

Speaker 3 (01:20:31):
Yeah, So we.

Speaker 2 (01:20:32):
Will get to our final category in the NFL six
pack coming up next hour. Also coming up next hour,
players and other sports figures that you love to hate.
It's Kevin figures, Adam Moslin on Fox Football Saturday.

Speaker 1 (01:20:46):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 3 (01:20:49):
It's FNA on Fox Football Saturday. Welcome back in He
is k FIG. I'm Adam Osland at follow Out of
ma is where you can find me on X He's
at KFIG one at a show as well. Coming up.
We're gonna theme things out here in this third hour,
talk about some of the athletes we can't stand. Yeah, play,

(01:21:09):
I got a few people that are on my mind
right now.

Speaker 2 (01:21:11):
You're staring a deep hole into me right now. Why
what did I do?

Speaker 3 (01:21:16):
Because I'm for the early two thousands and if we
were friends back then, we might have been front of
these because I was a Kings.

Speaker 2 (01:21:23):
Fan and you are a Lakers fan. Okay, I see
where this is going now. It makes all the sense
in the world. You give me the death Stay there
for a half second.

Speaker 3 (01:21:31):
I didn't mean to give you no. No, I kind
of did.

Speaker 5 (01:21:33):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (01:21:33):
Before we get to that, though, we have to finish
the NFL six pack. We had five categories that we
did last hour, wedged around the great Rodney Pete interview
that we did. So let's get to our final category here, Mark,
before we talk about athletes we love to hate.

Speaker 4 (01:21:47):
Redemption round.

Speaker 2 (01:21:48):
Yeah. So the redemption round here part of the NFL
six pack. The team or player looking to bounce back
from struggling. We're gonna say last week, but seeing as
it is week one, maybe outs back from a tough
twenty twenty three to twenty four season there at him
or twenty four to twenty five season, I should say.

Speaker 3 (01:22:05):
I'll give my redemption round player team member. In this case,
it is a player.

Speaker 2 (01:22:10):
Okay.

Speaker 3 (01:22:11):
I don't know why I think this is gonna work.
I don't know why anyone would believe in this player.
He couldn't handle the big Apple, and it looked like
his brain turned into apple sauce on some of the
throws he made for the Giants. I'm talking about Daniel Jones.
Maybe it's the weak division, maybe it's Shane Siken's offense.
Maybe it's the fact he bet on himself to go

(01:22:32):
somewhere and win the starting job. And while Anthony Richardson
may have lost it more than Daniel Jones actually won it,
I'm rooting for him, just like I did with Baker
Mayfield going somewhere else and succeeding, or Sam Darnold or
Geno Smith, guys who gave the bird to their former employer.
I dig the cut of their jib, and I'm hoping

(01:22:54):
Danny Dimes can have a redemption arc as high as
the arc is on some of his passes that sailed
over receivers with the Giants. Good luck to Daniel Jones.

Speaker 2 (01:23:03):
Oh, look, he's at least more accurate than Anthony Richardson,
so we can give him that.

Speaker 3 (01:23:08):
Is he well, yeah, he is.

Speaker 2 (01:23:09):
I mean, unfortunately for Anthony Richardson, he is significantly more
accurate than Anthony Richardson. And that's a problem.

Speaker 3 (01:23:17):
And Indy has the Dolphins at home on Sunday. I'm
interested in that game. I want to see how he
operates within that offense.

Speaker 2 (01:23:25):
Yeah, and a lot of people down on Miami, you know,
talking about their demises coming season, So we'll see what
happens there.

Speaker 3 (01:23:31):
Feels like I want to zag the other way and
say the Dolphins are going to be good now because
the people are so down on them.

Speaker 2 (01:23:37):
Yeah, I agree, I understand what. Tarbrek's a year older,
Tua's had his share of injury issues. They're not running
the ball as well as they initially did when McDaniel
force got.

Speaker 3 (01:23:46):
There, Like they're gonna have health issues eventually, But it's
week one. Can't we have some hope.

Speaker 2 (01:23:51):
They've lost a lot of defensively too. That certainly doesn't help.

Speaker 3 (01:23:53):
All right, Well, who do you got here in your
redemption round?

Speaker 2 (01:23:56):
I'm gonna go with the guy who actually spent the
last four months or the first four months last season,
proving everyone that he was not a bust. And that's
Sam Donald, all right. Sam Donald on the outskirts, really
of the MVP discussion for the majority of the season,
But the way his season ended was a disaster. The
last regular season game against Detroit with the division title

(01:24:16):
on the line, he was terrible, to say the least.
The wildcard game against the Rams, he was just as bad,
maybe even worse actually. But now he goes to Seattle.
They now have an offensive coordinator with NFL experience, so
that certainly helps, is Clint Kubiak. So it's back to
the old Shanahan tree of the zone running game, yeah,
which Seattle was terrible at last year, and running the football.

(01:24:38):
And I think that's part of the reason why Gino
Smith struggled last season after having such a great year
of the year before. He's one of those guys who
needs a good running game behind him. So now that
he's in Seattle, different offense with a young I think
kind of like an unknown defense. They have some really
good defensive talent in Seattle that a lot of people
aren't talking about. I really think the NFC West in
general is going to be is a really underrated division

(01:24:59):
that a lot of p people are sleeping on. I
talked about the Arizona Cardinals last hour feels up for grabs. Yeah,
I think Seattle's right in there too, especially with the
forty nine ers being so top heavy. Christian McCaffrey's already
banged up. We haven't even played a game.

Speaker 3 (01:25:11):
Yet, calf injury.

Speaker 2 (01:25:12):
He's gonna play. McAffrey already questionable. So and the Rams
with Matthew Stafford's back, I mean, who knows what that
situation is going to turn into. So to your point,
I think the West might be pretty wide open. But
I'm looking at sam Donold as a guy who's looking
to redeem himself from the last couple of appearances he
had at the end of last season in the final
regular season game in the Wildcart Round, to prove that

(01:25:33):
he's a better quarterback than he showed in those last
two games. I like it.

Speaker 3 (01:25:37):
That rounds out our NFL six pack for Week one
of the twenty twenty five NFL season. We'll be doing
this week week here on FNA on FSR. Somebody who
was looking for a little bit of redemption struggled in
the Pros. Johnny Manziel, who was once said by Skip

(01:25:59):
Bayless and I know I mentioned this before, but I
will do it every time. Skip Baylist mister one point
four said he would end up being bigger in Cleveland
than Lebron James. That was his prediction for Johnny Manziel
and I had to.

Speaker 2 (01:26:14):
Work out for him.

Speaker 3 (01:26:15):
Not well it was he was wrong.

Speaker 5 (01:26:17):
Am I wrong?

Speaker 3 (01:26:18):
But just a bit outside. Johnny Manziel ended up starting
like fifteen games or something like that for the Browns
unfortunately drug alcohol addiction issues going on. But Kevin, I
guess he spoke about his time there with Cleveland.

Speaker 2 (01:26:34):
Recently he did. He was on the Nightcap podcast and
they talked about his experience with Cleveland and if he
has any ill will towards that organization. And here's what
Johnny Football had to say.

Speaker 13 (01:26:45):
You know, I think I will always be looked at
and viewed at because of how much hype and media
and everything that was around me in the city of
Cleveland expecting me to be great and that ultimately not
panning out.

Speaker 5 (01:26:58):
Listen, you know I sit here today.

Speaker 13 (01:27:01):
And I go back and forth with man, Am I
gonna let Cleveland off the hook?

Speaker 5 (01:27:06):
And just like let it go.

Speaker 13 (01:27:07):
Or am I gonna sit here with the hate and
animosity in my heart for the rest of my life?

Speaker 5 (01:27:11):
And I finally sit here today, I'm good.

Speaker 13 (01:27:13):
I think I'm gonna be pissed at them and hate
him forever.

Speaker 5 (01:27:15):
So it is what it is.

Speaker 4 (01:27:19):
Man, No, no love for the Browns.

Speaker 13 (01:27:22):
I'm rooting for oh sixteen seasons every season.

Speaker 2 (01:27:25):
No, this reminds me. I forget exactly who he was fighting.
But Connor McGregor after he won to fight a UFC
match some years ago, and he says, I just want
to make sure that I come up here and apologize
for absolutely nothing I'm in every dayn wor than I said,
that's basically Johnny Manzil's like, how you know what? It
was a tough run in Cleveland, but you know what,
I feel like I might have some remorse now never mind,
I don't I hate him. I want to go ohen

(01:27:46):
sixteen the remainder of their existence. I mean, that's next
level pettiness, and I'm kind of here for it.

Speaker 3 (01:27:51):
Look it would be oh and seventeen. Now that is true.
They've done oh and sixteen. This is next level stuff.
Now this gave us an idea here to put together
some of the athletes that we hold a grudge against,
some of the people that we hate.

Speaker 4 (01:28:07):
I feel the conflict within you let go of your
hate that.

Speaker 3 (01:28:10):
We haven't been able to let go of our hate
with right. So we've compiled a list here, each of
us here on F and a on FSR. Kevin, give
me an athlete that you can't help but hate, even
though it's been years.

Speaker 2 (01:28:22):
Maybe Carlos Correo, and this is coming from someone who's
not even necessarily a Dodger fan, but he along with
Josel Tuove were the two biggest faces I guess Carlos Beltron,
who was a coach at the time. As far as
the Houston Natros scheme with the trash cans and the
alleged buzzers and twenty seventeen that stole a World Series

(01:28:44):
birth from the Yankees and stole a World Series championship
from the Dodger.

Speaker 3 (01:28:47):
That's interesting you bring up the Yankees. People forget about
that part of it.

Speaker 2 (01:28:50):
That was the buzzer Buzzer gate, with the Josel Tuve
with the walkoff, the walk off home run, don't rip
off my shirt apparently because he said he was self anscious,
he doesn't want to take his shirt off.

Speaker 3 (01:29:02):
I think maybe he had a nipple ring like Ryan
Day and it was still a little bit tender because
he just had it put in, forgot about that life.
That was a little stress.

Speaker 2 (01:29:12):
That was different, but he was the face of it
and was very unapologetic. You know. I know they got
immunity from the commissioner, which they probably shouldn't have, and
they say, well, they wouldn't have said anything had they
not gotten the immunity. That whole thing's been litigated, but
Carlo's career has been so openly defiant, basically almost has
no remorse over what happened, and regardless of where he's been,

(01:29:33):
he's continued to double down on it.

Speaker 3 (01:29:34):
Yeah, this enjoys playing the villain.

Speaker 2 (01:29:36):
Sports is supposed to be like the last bastion of
you know, No. One integrity and like number two. You know,
this is where it's a meritocracy. You have people playing
under a certain level of rules, a set of rules
that you expect everyone to abide by, and when someone
doesn't do that and they're caught doing it, and literally
nothing happens because all they're playing for is a hunk

(01:29:56):
of metal. According to Rob Manfred, a hunk of me.
I know that everybody strives and works hard for through
an entire offseason and one hundred and sixty two plus
games in the postseason to get and it's just a
hunk of metals. So it's not important enough to the commissioner.
But it was important enough for the Houston Astros to
go out and cheat their way to a championship.

Speaker 3 (01:30:13):
I mean, if it's not that important, then take it
away from them.

Speaker 2 (01:30:15):
Exactly, and they wouldn't do that. So Carlos Kreta as
someone who will forever, I will forever root against all.

Speaker 3 (01:30:21):
Right in the same veins, so to speak, when you're
talking about cheaters and maybe injecting something in this case,
Ryan Braun of the Milwaukee Brewers is somebody I got
some hate for.

Speaker 4 (01:30:34):
I feel the conflict within you.

Speaker 3 (01:30:35):
Let go of your hate, I don't think so. I'm
giving all the way in. I'm not even a Dodger fan. Yep,
same thing, quite the opposite. You're a San Francisco Giants fan.
Well you didn't have to make it that clear. Oh yeah,
I'm far from a Dodger fan here. But even though
he won the MVP over Matt Camp. That's not even

(01:30:56):
so much what I care about. Back in twenty eleven,
I don't like Ryan Braun because he's a giant d bag,
and when he defended his cheating, which he was doing.
But remember he won the appeal initially on a BS technicality,
and he was so condescending and indignant to the media

(01:31:18):
and went so far as to accuse the tester of
being anti Semitic when he knew the whole time he
was cheating, and eventually did get caught in twenty thirteen
and admitted to cheating in twenty eleven when he won
the MVP. Like, this is a bad guy. Forget testing

(01:31:39):
positive for PEDS. This guy tested positive for pos. He
tarnished a man's name and reputation of Dino Lorenzi. He
was the tester in this case for Ryan Braun, who
collected the urine sample from a guy not worth the
cup used in it that produced the positive result. Braun

(01:32:00):
was cheating all along. The biogenesis clinic stuff in Florida
eventually caught up to him, or maybe it was just karma.
But part of the reason I can't stand him is
because I actually think the Milwaukee Brewers have some of
the best uniforms in sports when they wear their pinstripes
with the lighter blue, and I wanted to get a
Brewer's hat, but I refused to do it for so

(01:32:22):
long because Ryan Braun was on that team and it
bothered me. I didn't want to represent them. Now I
have one, now, okay, good, exactly, But it took a
long time for him to eventually get out of the sport,
and I cannot get over just how much he was

(01:32:43):
talking down to the media and this particular drug tester
that still bothers me, still hating on Ryan Braun, not
letting this go.

Speaker 2 (01:32:52):
I'm gonna go back to the Boston Celtics now, truth
be told, I grew up as a Laker fan, so
I can just say the Celtics franchise as a whole
something that I'll always hate, and that is true.

Speaker 3 (01:33:01):
F Boston. Huh.

Speaker 2 (01:33:02):
Yeah. I'm gonna go a little bit deeper and go
to someone who many of you probably have never even
heard of.

Speaker 9 (01:33:09):
You ever heard of?

Speaker 2 (01:33:10):
A guy named mL Carr.

Speaker 3 (01:33:11):
Yeah that sounds familiar.

Speaker 2 (01:33:12):
Yeah, you know why it's familiar because he was the
biggest trash talker. Maybe even more so than Larry Bird
on the Boston Celtics, and he never played. If you
ever saw the Celtics and Lakers highlights from back in
the day, they're great. Even when the Pistons, if they played,
you know, great playoff matchups, there's always a guy at
the end of the bench waving a towel, acting the fool.
And it was a guy named mL Carr who for

(01:33:35):
his career averaged like five points a game.

Speaker 3 (01:33:37):
Oh he was there, Mark Madson, huh basically, no, that's disrespectful,
Mark Madson.

Speaker 2 (01:33:42):
Mark Manson never said anything.

Speaker 3 (01:33:44):
Oh he said one thing. Kevin who dance.

Speaker 2 (01:33:48):
Exactly. He would dance on stage and act a fool,
but he would not try to get into the faces
of other players and start talking trash and then all
mL car basically was the guy that was instigated a
fight and then tell everybody to hold him back, or
a matter of fact, instigated a fight between two people
and then run the opposite direction. Yeah, that was him.
People like that I cannot stand. Okay, he might be

(01:34:09):
a stand up guy for all I know, But for
the character that he played in those great Lakers Celtic
rivalries back in the eighties, for someone who made no
impact or close to no impact on the court, He's
sure as hell had a very marquee uh position in
that rivalry, and mainly because he wouldn't shit the bleep
up all. He never played the.

Speaker 3 (01:34:29):
Level of hate you have for him, and the reasoning.
I'm on board with this.

Speaker 4 (01:34:33):
I feel the conflict within you. Let go of your hate.

Speaker 2 (01:34:35):
Nothing worse.

Speaker 3 (01:34:36):
Yeah, I get that. Why are you talking? Why are
you even here's the Drake line role players acting like starters.

Speaker 2 (01:34:42):
I mean, yes, maybe he wrote that with an mL
Car in mind. The problem is mL Car was barely
even a role player, at least at that point in
his career. He was a decent player early on, but
by then, cheez, I got.

Speaker 3 (01:34:52):
A role player for you here, all right, Rick Fox,
I hate my guy, Rick Fox and former Laker. I'll
tell you how I like Rick. I hate him for
all the holding, the grabbing, and the greasing all his
hair all over Pages Stoyakovic in the playoffs when he

(01:35:17):
played for the Lakers. You know what, I love him
trying to act hard with Doug Christy when he unintentionally
put his hand up and hit Christy with his open
palm with a little bit of a slap there.

Speaker 2 (01:35:31):
Oh, he smacked the crap out of him. It was
like tart for the Chargers on Friday Night against the Chiefs.
It was his open hands to the face.

Speaker 3 (01:35:37):
Was bad acting on his part, and he's done a
lot of that in his career, by the way, off
the court. Check out his IMDb profile. But he tried
to act like it was unintentional, and Doug Christy wasn't
having hit and he hit him with that upper cut
like saggot and street fighter too, tiger upper cut on
Rick Fox. I loved seeing that no one had it

(01:35:58):
coming more than pretty boy Rick Fox, who has one
of the most punishable faces ever in the history of sports,
and that face did get punched. I was happy about it.

Speaker 2 (01:36:09):
This was a preseason game, by the way, and Rick
Fox actually chased Doug Christie down in the tunnel. I
remember this vividly.

Speaker 3 (01:36:15):
Yeah, And maybe Doug Christie's wife got involved, maybe maybe Shaq.

Speaker 2 (01:36:19):
Was there person Rick Fox and hit him upside the head.

Speaker 3 (01:36:23):
Stand by your man, what's the problem. It's a strong
woman right there.

Speaker 2 (01:36:29):
Doug Christie is still a coach, right, He is the
head coach of the Kings.

Speaker 3 (01:36:33):
He ended up holding on to that interim position.

Speaker 2 (01:36:35):
Is his wife an assistant on the team, Not that
I know, okay, but Rick Fox is somebody that I
can't forget about when we talk about athletes that we hate. Well,
you know, coming from the King's background, with the King's
Laker rivalry, I certainly understand that, Brie. Do you have
anybody a sports figure that you will always root against?

Speaker 11 (01:36:54):
You know, I will always root against Robert or for
the hip check and to two thousand and seven, I can.

Speaker 3 (01:37:01):
Get on board with this.

Speaker 11 (01:37:02):
Yeah, actually, honestly, and pretty much the whole Spurs organization.

Speaker 10 (01:37:05):
You know, if we really just from.

Speaker 3 (01:37:07):
Two thousand like.

Speaker 10 (01:37:10):
Six to like two thousand and nine.

Speaker 2 (01:37:13):
Where every time the Spurs beat the Suns in the
postseason is basically what you're saying.

Speaker 10 (01:37:15):
Okay, well, you're making me sound like such a homer.

Speaker 3 (01:37:18):
That's what this segment is about, right, your personal grudges.

Speaker 11 (01:37:23):
Just because like they just could never And the one
time that the Suns actually beat the Spurs, they lost
the Lakers. Yeah, and that was like when Gordon Dragic
went off. But then the Spurs dynasty was already kind
of collapsing. So it's like every time I see Tim Duncan,
every time I see Managerobili, every time I see like

(01:37:43):
Robert or just any Spur. Just seeing the Spurs logo
just actually just really gets under my skin.

Speaker 2 (01:37:49):
So I think the iceman George Gorfers should be taken
strays from you.

Speaker 10 (01:37:52):
But the Admiral can take strays from me.

Speaker 4 (01:37:55):
Even then.

Speaker 11 (01:37:55):
That was even before my time and before it affected
my team.

Speaker 2 (01:37:58):
That makes me feel old for you to say David
Robinson was before your time, but well I.

Speaker 11 (01:38:02):
Was younger, just kind of on the same boat as you.
Every time I see a jose All two bit, I
just want him to like fall flat in his face
and break all his teeth.

Speaker 2 (01:38:11):
It's not a fall fall from.

Speaker 10 (01:38:12):
It's not that far exactly, so just like a smash.

Speaker 3 (01:38:15):
He might be fine. It's like an ant falling afoot.
He doesn't do anything to him.

Speaker 11 (01:38:19):
And then my last one is Derek Carr, who completely
destroyed the scenes organization.

Speaker 3 (01:38:25):
He completely destroyed the same organization.

Speaker 2 (01:38:28):
Look, I give all the credit in the world to
Mickey Lewis, who built a Super Bowl contender and all that,
but he's been there for years and they have not
been in that I'm just capacity for a long time,
and he's been the head of the snake of that
he put them in Salary cap Hill. That's not Derek cars.

Speaker 10 (01:38:40):
He just was a factor. It's a slight factor.

Speaker 11 (01:38:43):
And just like playing all the good guy and I'm
such an angel and look at how wonderful and god
fearing I am. But then he just is very slimy
and creepy.

Speaker 2 (01:38:51):
And how was he slimy and creepy?

Speaker 4 (01:38:52):
Out?

Speaker 3 (01:38:52):
Wait a second, is Tim Tebow also slimy and creepy?

Speaker 10 (01:38:56):
You never said that.

Speaker 2 (01:38:58):
Different?

Speaker 3 (01:38:58):
When was Derek Carr that guy just because he was
bad on the field.

Speaker 11 (01:39:01):
No, the whole teammates didn't like him. I've had sources,
I have sorcers.

Speaker 3 (01:39:07):
You're calling him a fake phony?

Speaker 11 (01:39:08):
Yes, I am literally, So those are those are just
my my, my few.

Speaker 3 (01:39:16):
All right, Mark, what do you got uh thinking about it?
Bill lamberert just the.

Speaker 2 (01:39:22):
Whole dayzy one? Yeah, Detroit things, well, Chicago guy there,
Mark makes sense.

Speaker 3 (01:39:27):
So you're a big Robert Parrish fan. I'm guessing since
he uh finally let loose on Bill Lambert that one time. Yeah,
that was always good.

Speaker 14 (01:39:35):
And I guess I'm thinking about l two vague just
because what the Astros did to baseball and they never
got you know, disciplined about it and take anything away
from him. And I'm still mad at the referee who
called for the for.

Speaker 3 (01:39:54):
The Patriots against the Raiders.

Speaker 2 (01:39:56):
The that was walk Coleman, wasn't it? And this in
the uh game the game who I think is now
part of the NFL like officiating office or whatever. During games.

Speaker 3 (01:40:04):
We have some sound from Charles Woodson after that game,
the Raiders suck. Wait, that was not it?

Speaker 2 (01:40:09):
That was That was Bill Romanowski by the way, another
former Raider.

Speaker 3 (01:40:12):
Great, maybe I have that somewhere else, but but just
those couple guys, well Coleman, Yeah, people are never getting
over that. And neither is uh Seawood. So that's one
of those that I can understand, even though I'm not
a Raiders fan. When I see that picture of Tom
Brady and it's very clear he's not making a pass there.

Speaker 2 (01:40:35):
I'm telling you, history is different. They lose that game,
Tom Brady probably gets traded somewhere else to be the starter.
Drew Bledze gets reinserted, because once Tom Brady wins a
Super Bowl, you can't go back and put somebody else
back in there. After you want a championship.

Speaker 3 (01:40:47):
You know the Patriots, they had some scandals in their time,
and we might have to talk about a potential scandal
going on in southern California with the Los Angeles Clippers.
That's coming up next, along with Bree here on FNA
on FSR. But before we get out of here, Kevin,

Breeze three.

Speaker 3 (01:42:12):
Looking forward to Breeze three today, as we do every week,
Sock Kevin, we seize it out earlier. We got to
pay this off obviously. In the NBA, the biggest story
going on right now is an investigation by the league
that just commenced yesterday.

Speaker 2 (01:42:24):
That to be something a pretty big deal for us
to have to talk NBA in early September. Now, I
would say this is a pretty big deal.

Speaker 3 (01:42:29):
I was kind of hoping the NFL would just totally
cover the story up, but it is that big. It
has gone national. I understand the reasons why Clippers being
investigated for circumventing the salary cap, allegations made by Pablo Torre,
formerly of the Evil four Letter, on his podcast Pablo
finds Out or Pablo Torre finds Out put together seven

(01:42:53):
months work worth of investigating work.

Speaker 2 (01:42:56):
Yeah, talk to what seven different employees of this now
defunct company Aspiration.

Speaker 3 (01:43:03):
The Clippers were working with them as they were a
sponsor of theirs and we're going to invest three hundred
million dollars over I think twenty three years. Steve Balmer
also put in money to invest in them as.

Speaker 2 (01:43:16):
Well, fifty million dollars out of his pocket.

Speaker 3 (01:43:18):
It was about reducing carbon footprints and the allegation basically,
to summarize a eighty minute podcast, is that he put
in fifty million to them and Kawhi Leonard ended up.
At this point, people are saying getting forty eight million
dollars out of their company is the allegation. Based upon

(01:43:39):
some of the records. It started off as twenty eight
million dollars. They were saying he received over four years,
seven million per year, and then they said yesterday another
report came out.

Speaker 2 (01:43:50):
This is from the Athletic.

Speaker 3 (01:43:51):
Speculation, allegations, accusations, all the disclaimers you want to say,
because nothing's definitive right now.

Speaker 2 (01:43:58):
While they're going off of the combination apoblo tory and
some of the information that the Athletic has dug up.
These are based on records that they have seen contracts. Now,
whether how accurate these are, who knows, but these are.
This is documentation that these parties have received.

Speaker 3 (01:44:13):
And the reason they were able to get this paperwork
and documentation is because Aspiration went bankrupt, which made all
this stuff public records, and that's where people start to
see some of the names and signatures on some of
these contracts. And the issue is not so much that, Look,
there's a lot of different sponsors for teams that also

(01:44:36):
sponsor a star player on that team in a separate deal.
The difference is from what we've seen from what the
reporting says, Kawhi Leonard wasn't promoting Aspiration, He wasn't being
a spokesman for them, So why was he being paid
this amount If he wasn't being somebody who was out

(01:44:58):
there shooting commercials like say Robert Downey Junior did for them,
or doing a retweet or something on social media. They're
wondering what's going on here? Why is he being paid
this money? And the allegation is Steve Balmer was circumveying
the cap and that money was going to Kawhi. That

(01:45:18):
initially started with Steve to the company aspiration then rerouted
to the player.

Speaker 2 (01:45:23):
And I don't think that that's an unfair question to ask,
because no company is going to give anybody seven million
dollars out of the goodness of their hearts. And if
you listen to the insiders or the ex employees of
this company that spoke with Pablo Tori, who basically said, yeah,
Kawhi Leonard was getting paid basically as a way to
circumvent the camp. That's why they did this. There. He

(01:45:45):
was never going to he was never required to do anything.
We can ask him to do stuff. But this goes
to the Athletic because they said they got their hands
on the actual contract that Kawhi signed, and Kawhi had
the right to deny any request that the company.

Speaker 3 (01:45:58):
Had based upon his personal beliefs. Correct, but there were
obvious outs in the contract.

Speaker 2 (01:46:04):
Right, so maybe it wasn't totally fraudulent, but it's like, hey,
we can as Kawhi to do X, Y and Z,
and he can say no, I don't want to do
any of that, and we say, okay, here's your check,
which again, no company on any planet would ever do that.
The only way it would And you talked about, you know,
the investors in this company, heavy hitters. We're talking Robert
Downey Junior, who you mentioned was an investor and a spokesperson,

(01:46:26):
Leonardo DiCaprio and Drake These are like three like global stars.
If you're not a big fan of movies or music,
you've heard of them. This is no disrespect ton to
Kawhi Leonard. But if they just said, hey, Kawhi, we'll
pay you some money just to say that you're affiliated
with us. Great of a basketball player as Kawhi Leonard is,

(01:46:46):
he ain't Lebron James or He's his name does not
transcend the sport that he plays in. Simply being associated
with the with that company, I don't think gives him
enough clout, So I don't I don't think it passes
the smell test when it comes to that.

Speaker 3 (01:46:59):
I understand, but that is one of the possibilities at
least that they're using all these people that have invested
in the company or promoting the company, and I understand
wasn't doing much of that.

Speaker 2 (01:47:16):
He did nothing.

Speaker 3 (01:47:17):
No what we know, he's done nothing. That is though,
as we talk about a company that was convicted of
defrauding everybody, that is something you could do to establish
a relationship with a new investor, is say, hey, we
got all these people on board, what say you, why

(01:47:41):
don't you jump into And that could be a possible
reason for why they were using KWHI. But obviously this
is the crux of the issue. Something is going to
have to be explained here for him making that much money.
Tonight he was seen at the US Open, had some
headphones in. Obviously has not come out and made a statement.

(01:48:03):
His team hasn't made a statement. But last night Steve
Balmer went on the Evil four Letter with Ramona Shelburne.
He came across to me as credible. I know people
are just gonna say, well, you're biased, you work for
the Clippers, and I've been forthright about that. I've made
no bones about that. So if you want to take
what I say with a grain of salt, fine. I

(01:48:25):
think some other people that don't have a dog in
the hunt has said the same thing. It was I
think at least refreshing to most of Clipper nation to
see if Steve Bomber come out and adamantly deny the
claims of him trying to circumvent the salary cap. He
was very vehement about it. He wasn't equivocating, but he

(01:48:45):
also made it clear that outside of introducing Kawhi to aspiration,
which is allowed after that, they had nothing to do
with broker good deal. That's what Steve Balmer wanted to
make clear last night and the Evil four letter, and
it's kind of up to you on whether or not
you believe him. While the investigation by the NBA is
going on.

Speaker 2 (01:49:05):
Who knows if there's proof to that. And by the way,
the NBA did hire the same law firm that they
used to oust to Donald Sterling, which precipitated the purchase
of the Clippers to Steve Balmer, and the same law
firm that also investigated the Phoenix Suns which resulted in
Robert Sarver having to sell the team to Matteshbia a
couple of years ago. So they're taking a very serious
extremely as you should in this situation like this.

Speaker 3 (01:49:27):
Even Steve Balmer is asked last night, how would you
feel if a report like this came out from another owner,
and he said, I'd want it to be investigated.

Speaker 2 (01:49:34):
Now.

Speaker 3 (01:49:34):
What's interesting is a lot of people are saying from
Pablo Torre's report that there's not enough hard evidence enough
concrete evidence, you have to connect dots. But if you
look at the NBA's by laws for this rule, circumstantial
evidence is one way to prove this. The bar is

(01:49:55):
very low, it says, maybe proven by direct or circumstance evidence,
including but not limited to, evidence that a player contract
or any term or provision thereof cannot rationally be explained. Well,
explain this. The money that went to Kawhi. We don't
know what he was being paid for exactly. That is

(01:50:20):
the beef here in this allegation, and that's why this
report and investigative journalism by Pablo Torre started.

Speaker 2 (01:50:26):
Well, here's an interesting thing too, when it comes to
Kauhi's infamous uncle Dennis, who has gotten them wrapped up
in controversy to begin with, When the Clippers were initially
pursuing Kawhi Leonard in twenty nineteen, in the offseason, there
were reports about him asking for all of these extra
benefits and private flights and all of this. The NBA
did investigate it and say that nothing ever happened, that
nothing came of it, but they would revisit it if

(01:50:48):
they were given reason to revisit it. And I know
that uncle Dennis was cited and by one of the
former employees in Paulo Torre's podcasts saying that basically when
they were going through their bankruptcy, Uncle Dinna was knocking
on the door saying, like you o, Kawhi seven million dollars, still,
where's our money? And Steve Bomber was asked by Ramona

(01:51:09):
about Uncle Dennis, has he ever asked you for improper benefits?
I'm not gonna say that. Steve Bamber didn't answer the question,
but it was a very political answer. It was like
something to the effect of, well, he knows the rules,
and we know the rules and we try to stick
by the rules. But it was it wasn't a definitive no,
Uncle Dennis has never asked us for improper benefits.

Speaker 3 (01:51:28):
I believe he said something to the effect of sometimes
we have to be reminded about the rules.

Speaker 9 (01:51:34):
Now.

Speaker 2 (01:51:35):
Now, maybe that's and maybe that's a way of him
protecting Kawhi's camp by wording it that way.

Speaker 3 (01:51:40):
But yeah, and I think what could come next is
a statement from Kawhi's camp.

Speaker 2 (01:51:46):
I feel like saying nothing, even though from a like
in a quarter of law situation, which I guess this
is not necessarily that it's between the NBA and all that.

Speaker 3 (01:51:54):
It's not a law broken, it's a rule broken within
a league that they can be punished for.

Speaker 2 (01:51:58):
I will say, if it was a legal situation, the
best thing you could do was say nothing. I don't
know if that's necessarily the best case right now. Look,
the NBA is going to talk to him. Yeah, they're
gonna talk to Kawhi. They're probably gonna talk to Uncle Dennis,
They're gonna talk to whoever this law firm. This is
not gonna happen all overnight, by the way.

Speaker 3 (01:52:13):
But it's interesting because the All Star Games get into
it them next year. I would think they want all
this cleared up and a ruling to happen at some point.
The other part that's interesting is Adam silver in the
power dynamic with him and the owners is it's really
unique because he works for the owners, he also in

(01:52:34):
this case is being held responsible for possibly punishing an
owner that he works for. So it could come down
to a lot of people are speculating how do the
other owners feel about this? How do they feel about
Steve Balmer? Do they want to make sure this is
a very thorough investigation or could those owners also be

(01:52:55):
concerned because they might have some skeletons in their own
closet and they don't want to set a press that
could get them in trouble down the line for something similar.
These are all the theories that people are throwing out
right now.

Speaker 2 (01:53:06):
Yeah, my guess is that the majority of the owners,
there's a little bit of envy that goes around. Steve
Balmer is by far the richest owner in the NBA,
so I'm sure there's some jealousy and sports going on
along there, So it would not surprise me if the
owners were fully on. By the way, this is not
unprecedented anytime a commissioner takes action against an owner. Roger
Goodell had to do this against the late Jim Rse
suspended him for a season when he had some legal

(01:53:28):
and drug issues. We know, David Stern, I mean, the
big topic, or the big concern that people bring up
from the past is the Joe Smith Minnesota situation that
happened in two thousand. He's had no problems going after
that in the past, so.

Speaker 3 (01:53:40):
Usually they had hard evidence, they had written evidence of
that because there was an agent scorned in that situation,
who is able to deliver the goods right right.

Speaker 2 (01:53:49):
But I would imagine that all the other owners will
be on board with this investigation because this is a
pretty big deal coming up next.

Speaker 3 (01:53:56):
No good way to segue out of it. We got
a pretty big deal for you. Two on too off
we're going off the NFL lines and making some guesses
and some bets coming up next here on FNA on FSR.

Speaker 2 (01:54:12):
Kevin figures Adam Austin with you guys here on Fox
Sports Fox Football Saturday.

Speaker 3 (01:54:17):
I should say, Adam, we're getting used to it.

Speaker 9 (01:54:19):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (01:54:20):

(01:54:43):
let's go get a new.

Speaker 4 (01:54:44):
Time now for you don't know what you're talking about.
Two on.

Speaker 2 (01:54:50):
Two of Josh signed all right, Adam. Four games in
the NFL. Two lines that are on in two lines
where you think the underdog actually should be favored. Okay,
well actually win.

Speaker 3 (01:55:00):
So two on the favorite, all right? You know how
there's Benny versus the Penny, and there was Petros versus
the Pig. Everyone made the joke I see two pigs.

Speaker 2 (01:55:12):
Yeah, classic a local segment that Petros Papaekas would do, yes,
called Petros versus the Pig.

Speaker 3 (01:55:18):
I got both my casts involved. They're picking the favorites
because they're not gonna pick something that says underdogs. Okay,
so the two favorites. Let's see what you did there
that I got Washington minus six that was picked by Shadow,
I think because the momentum from last season and they're

(01:55:39):
taking on the Giants. She likes the Washington Commanders minus six,
which is a big number. I put two trees in
front of her. I said, one of these is for
the favorite, being the Bengals, who I think were minus four.
One is for Washington. She picked that treat. Washington minus
six is one of my picks here, although it was

(01:56:01):
done by my cat Shadow. What do you got catch?

Speaker 2 (01:56:03):
Yeah, so that game is my off the Giants being
six point dogs to the Commanders. As I mentioned earlier
in the show, I think the Giants actually play well
in this game. Dave Ball's last stand to a degree
great defensive front, and as c. J. Stroud found out,
your sophomore season could be a little bit of a
sophomore slump for Jaydon and Daniels. So I do think
he'll form better, play better than c. J. Stroud did

(01:56:24):
last year. I don't know if the Giants win this game,
but I feel fairly confident, based again on the fact
that both matchups the common to the combined final score
eight point margin for Washington. I say the Giants cover
the spread.

Speaker 3 (01:56:37):
All right, you want to give me one of your
on's on the favorite, I'm gonna.

Speaker 2 (01:56:40):
Go forty nine ers, a one a half point favorite
over Seattle. NFC West, like we talked about early earlier
in the show, is being slept on for as many
people who have crapped on the division. You realize the
over under for the for Seattle is eight and a
half games, eight and a half wins, same for Arizona,
so the odds makers know how competitive this division could
potentially be. I think this game at one and a

(01:57:02):
half points can go down to one point. Is could
essentially be a pick them and that's kind of how
I see this. I think this game can go either way,
all right.

Speaker 3 (01:57:08):
I got another on picked by my cat, Tuca. Maybe
because she's named after Biaka Batuca, a former running back
for the Panthers, and she hates the Saints. She's going
with the favorite here in Arizona minus six on the
road in New Orleans. It's a big number. It's an
NFC West team, but I kind of feel like they're

(01:57:29):
a sneaky team with all the turnover you see in
the NFL teams going from worse to first. Theirsona Cardinals
might be one of those teams. He speaking of worse,
the Saints might be the worst team in the league.
So can Arizona beat him by a touchdown? Beat him
by seven? I think it's possible. It's a good pick
by Tuca.

Speaker 8 (01:57:46):
I like it.

Speaker 2 (01:57:46):
I think they could easily beat them by seven. To
be honest with you, Oh, do you got this too? Sorry, Bree, No,
I don't, but I agree with you on this one.
My on now the Steelers being a three point favorite
over the Jets, there's the revenge factor for both quarterbacks. Obviously,
could be some for the Steeler offense with Aaron Rodgers
getting adjusted there. So I do think this is right
about where it should be. The Pittsburgh Steelers better than

(01:58:07):
the New York Jets, but with some growing pains. I
think on paper you would say the Steelers should probably
win by maybe even a touchdown. But I think three
point three point spread makes sense to me.

Speaker 3 (01:58:15):
All right, So I got two offs here off of
the favorite going to the underdog. Can't believe I'm doing this.
Carolina Panthers plus four in Jacksonville against the Jaguars doing it.
My Cats didn't pick this one. I did, Kevin, and
I don't know why because I don't have much faith
in Bryce Young. But it just feels like plus four,
they're getting four, they can lose by a field goal,

(01:58:38):
and I can win this bet. I like Carolina plus
four in Jacksonville. You going the other way, just don't
put it. Just don't put any money down on that one,
Adam Place. I mean, I would never bet on my team.
I got a I would bet on Jacksonville, just a
hedge my off.

Speaker 2 (01:58:53):
My final off is the Browns being five and a
half point dogs to the Cincinnati Bengals. I don't think
they win this game, per se, but similar to the Giants.
I think they have some real fight in them and
something to prove. Joe Flacco at the ripe age of
what forty one, I believe this seems not old enough
for him. He's been around for a while. The over
under for passing yards in this game, according to bet

(01:59:14):
MGM two hundred and forty four yards. I'm taking the
over against that Bengals defense. I think Joe Flacco's got
something for him. I think he'll be measurably better. I
don't think that the Browns are good at all, but again,
tough divisional game. We've talked about how the Bengals struggle
in opening weekends in this under this regime, despite the
fact that they have Joe Burrow and a bunch of

(01:59:34):
great wide receivers. I think this game has wild shootout
written all over for me. So the over under total
is forty seven and a half. I think they easily
eclipse fifty.

Speaker 3 (01:59:43):
So wait a second, you got the points and the over.

Speaker 2 (01:59:46):
Yes, I got the points and the over. I think
the Browns keep this close, probably lose by a field goal,
but five and a half is rich for me for
that Bengals defense against Cleveland in the opening week, I
guarantee it all right.

Speaker 3 (02:00:00):
Final my off, I'm taking a dog here Detroit getting
two points on the road against the Packers. Now, I
may have Green Bay going to the Super Bowl and
winning it this year. I think I picked them here
at Fox Sports. I got them beating the Buffalo Bills.
I like the Micah Parsons move for them, solidifies their defense.
I still feel like the Lions can win this game though,

(02:00:22):
or at least just only lose by one. They beat
the Packers both times last season. They were the number
one seed in the NFC. I know they sd the
bed in the playoffs, but it's week one. They got
a history of beating Green Bay. I like the Lions
plus two on.

Speaker 2 (02:00:38):
The road beautiful and that is two on the inaugural
two on and two off here on F and A
on FSR. Mark, thank you so much, Thanks Debrie, Thanks
to you guys for listening to us. Much appreciated. Kevin Figures,
Adam Auslin back with you next weekend. Coming up next
