the hour, the man himself missed the football from Fox
Sports Radio. Bucky Brooks, Hello, Bucky.
Speaker 1 (00:35):
How are you? I'm good?
Speaker 3 (00:37):
What's going on?
Speaker 1 (00:38):
Andy?
Speaker 4 (00:38):
How you doing?
Speaker 2 (00:39):
Everything is won well, everything is not wonderful. I'm a
little perturbed, all right, and I'm gonna share it with
you because I cannot imagine this situation that happened the
other day. When the Michigan University football team the plane
touchdown Friday afternoon, the coaches and the players getting off
the plane, they learn that the Big Ten has suspended
(00:59):
their coach, Jim Harbor, for the final three regular season
games beginning with yesterday's game against number ten Pence State.
I cannot imagine that you're with your guy, your coach,
the guy you signed up to play for all week
long in practice, the assistant coaches as well as well,
and you get off the plane and you're shocked with
this news. This is the most ridiculous asonine situation left
(01:22):
heard that I couldn't wait for the end of the season.
I don't get it. You're punishing the kids. You're not
punishing anybody but the kids that signed up to play
for Jim Harbaugh. It makes me sick.
Speaker 1 (01:35):
Yeah, no, it's not a great situation. And I understand
everyone who wants something done. I understand people who are
mad about the violation of the sportsmanship policy. Regardless of
whether Jim Harbor knew or not, they do have proof
that there was a Michigan stafford that was videotaping and
advanced scouting, and those things violate those bylaws and policies.
(01:55):
The problem that I have with it is just kind
of like the theater that has become. If you're gonna
punish him, and they need to go through their due
process or go through the procedures to do it. Yeah,
that's fine, but it shouldn't impact game action directly this
year while they're sorting it out. If they want to
met out the punishment and say they have everything done,
they completed it for Michigan side, or the story and
(02:16):
those things, and then they hand out the punishment, that's
one thing. But to remove him from the field before
going through that process, to me, is problematic, and it
could have impacted the game.
Speaker 4 (02:29):
It could impact.
Speaker 1 (02:30):
Not only like the Big Ten title for this year,
but it could also impact have national title implications. To me,
it's just a big mess. And so I'm actually glad.
Speaker 2 (02:40):
That Michigan right, I'm with you one thousand percent. Now
they say it's a violation of a sportsmanship policy. Look,
paying athletes to me, is a violation of sportsmanship policy,
and they're doing it right now. You know, the NIL
that was a great situation on paper. It turned out
at backfired. They'll never admit it at backfire. What it
basically is done is that for years there were boosters
(03:03):
paying college athletes. You know what, I know what, everybody
knows it. But now they somewhat make it legal under
the umbrella of NIL. So to me, that's not sportsmanship.
We talk about illegal recruiting. What about coaches that offer
kids their parents their homes orfer new homes. Some dads
get coaching positions. I've seen that in college basketball that
(03:23):
take a college recruit out of high school and I'll
take us farther and make him an assistant coach. It
happens all the time. But these scouting opponents, now Michigan's
gonna get slapped around? Are you kidding me? Does that
really help them winning? Michigan to me, in my mind,
could play ten against eleven and still beat Rutgers. Believe me,
they don't need that scouting. It's unbelievable. I don't get it.
(03:44):
Jim Harbaugh has been picked out in the first three
games he missed, and now they just pick on Jim Harbaugh. Why,
he's one of those guys. They found him, and they're
gonna pick on him until Michigan says it's no good.
He's gonna leave and probably coach in the NFL next year.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
Yeah, I wonder. I wonder if he will there because
I know they can try and run him out in
those things. But why would you want to leave when
you got the program up and running and it's it's
been so dominant.
Speaker 4 (04:09):
The last three years.
Speaker 1 (04:10):
Whether people say it's a part of the its byproduct
of the science stealing, or whatever the scandal that occurs
that comes out of this may be, you can't deny
they're dominance on the field. I mean they've been dominating people.
They want back to back Big Ten championships.
Speaker 2 (04:28):
Points every game. It's it's amazing.
Speaker 1 (04:29):
I mean, I mean they're rolling. He has the team
on the verge of being in the same conversation as
to Georgia's, to Alabama's. Look, it's exactly what you want.
So I don't I don't know if I see him leaving,
And in fact, I don't think he leaves with the
NCAA trying to push him out. I think there's the
competitor in him that kind of wants to stick it
(04:51):
to everybody. So I don't know if he if he'll
go to the National Football League so quickly.
Speaker 2 (04:57):
Well, I'll tell you something. You know, everybody is similar
the hithypocrite. You got everybody in college football, or at
least Big Ten coaches pointing fingers at Michigan. Yeah, well yeah,
well look, on Wednesday I read this report that Ohio State,
their coach Ryan day, He denies now that his buck
guys gave Michigan's place signals to Purdue last year. Are
you kidding me? I mean, this is happening all over
(05:19):
the place. That happened to single out Michigan. Michigan got caught.
I get it. It's no big whoop, dep because I
don't think that makes a difference on the field. Dion
Sanders said it the first time this story hit. You
gotta prove it on the field. You gotta do it
on the field. This scouting stuff's not going to you know,
I saw yesterday's game. At the end of the game,
Michigan had an interception, you know, and the game was
somewhat close. It was like seventeen to nine, and then
(05:41):
they intercepted and they scored a touchdown. I'm saying to myself,
did the signal stealing that's going to create the interception?
Are you kidding? It's it's a joke, it really is.
It makes me sick to hear this, to put a
blind eye, a bad eye, a black eye on the
Michigan football program, especially these It's a great football team
(06:01):
and they don't need to have this site story to
hurt them.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
Nah, they certainly don't need to decide story to hurt them.
This is a team that was doing really, really well
prior to that stuff, and it's one of the things
that disappoints me is because man, I do love the
way they play. I love the way that in the
second half they decided they were going to just try
and jam it down Penn State random ball on thirty
two consecutive players.
Speaker 4 (06:24):
In the second half.
Speaker 1 (06:26):
You have a Heisman Trophy candidate and JJ McCarthy who
didn't throw past the second half. Yet when you talk
to him after the game, he was just as happy
and content to get the dub. This team has a
lot of admirable qualities when it comes to the way
the team is connected. There togetherness, their chemistry and camaraderie
and all those things that you love to see in
team sports.
Speaker 4 (06:46):
And then the fact that.
Speaker 1 (06:47):
They're able to put it together, win games and do
all this stuff. I'm really impressed. I'm really impressed that
they were able to do it with Jim Harball being
on the side.
Speaker 4 (06:55):
And the final thing is Sharon.
Speaker 1 (06:57):
Moore, the offensive line coach, who was elegvated to inim
head coach. His adoration of his head coach, the loyalty
that he displayed to his head coach, I mean as
a coach, that's exactly the.
Speaker 4 (07:11):
Kind of staff that you want.
Speaker 1 (07:12):
You want assistants who kind of ride and die for
you like I love that.
Speaker 4 (07:17):
I love seeing that.
Speaker 1 (07:18):
And at a time where he could have been selfish
and made it about himself, for him to make it
about Harba and the university and those people around him,
to me, speaks volumes about what they really have going
on within their culture.
Speaker 2 (07:29):
That was beautiful. I mean you took about emotion. I
mean television caught it exactly. I mean he led a
couple of f bombs. I mean there's no big woop.
I mean it was on TV. But he didn't do
it because he wanted to be a grandioso kind of guy.
He did it just out of emotion. I didn't think
he knew he was on TV and the tears started
rolling down his cheeks. I loved every minute of it.
And when JJ McCarthy was inter viewed, coach, I love you.
(07:51):
I love your coach. I mean, this is what really
what sports is all about. And look, we say sports
is entertainment all the time. Let's talk about sportsmanship. If
sports is at the tainment. I remember a story way
back when when I lived in Denver, Colorado. It was
a big wrestling show was scheduled in Denver. Woody. Paige
was then the columnist for the Rocky Mountain News. He
wrote a column about this wrestling match.
Speaker 3 (08:10):
You know what he did.
Speaker 2 (08:11):
He put all the winners of that match in his
column before the match was scheduled.
Speaker 1 (08:15):
You know.
Speaker 2 (08:16):
And we know that wrestling is somewhat you know, not
kosher to say the least, okay, but people still win
because it's entertainment. That's what it's all about. Corrupt, I
don't think so. Cheating, I don't know about that, But
I'll tell you what. Sports is nothing more than entertainment
and people want to be entertained. And then what's worse
than this scouting deal that Michigan is getting slapped around for.
You know what's worse tanking? Tanking in the NBA and
(08:38):
tanking in the NFL. To me, I think that's worse
than cheating or scouting in advance. Maybe I'm nuts, tell
me I'm crazy, but I think that's worse.
Speaker 1 (08:48):
Yeah. I mean, like, there's so many other forms of
cheating and stuff that can be more egregious. People now
talk about tampering when it comes to I've heard coaches
have coaches talk to me about this when you go
at the end of the game and you walk across
the field to shake other's hands. You have certain assistants
that are going to players for smaller schools that are
(09:10):
playing bigger schools, and they're talking to the smaller school
standouts and saying, hey, man, you had a great game. Man,
we're going to be looking for a tied end next year,
like openly recruiting these small school standouts to come to
bigger schools. And we have seen kind of the trickle
up effect of guys from FCS programs, guys from Group
of five programs ending up at Power five schools, and
some of this is happening on the field that is
(09:32):
probably a more egregious violation of sportsmanship than some of
the other stuff. But yeah, I mean, you kind of
want to have your KKNEATA too. Everyone wants to see
football played at the highest level, but they don't want
to see some of the things that kind of happen at.
Speaker 4 (09:47):
Those highest levels.
Speaker 1 (09:48):
So it's weird to me that it appears that Big
ten competitors are out to get Michigan. I just feel
like they got to step their games up on the field.
Speaker 2 (09:58):
There you go, I want to make you happy right now.
Duke fell down to your North Carolina tar Heels forty seven,
forty five, two overtimes, Drake May twenty eight for forty three,
three hundred and forty two yards and a touchdown. That's
a big rivalry down now. You could tell me about
that Duke North Carolina rivalry. And I'm glad to see
Matt got right back at the action. North Carolina wins
that game.
Speaker 4 (10:18):
Yeah, no, it was a great game. Had to say it.
Speaker 1 (10:20):
It was a bit of a nail byer, but Duke
Carolina games can always be like that. Mike Elko has
done a really good job with the Duke program. They
play hard, they're smart, they're physical. They did a really
good job in the red zone in terms of keeping
Drake Man. That offense bottled up. But Drake May is
a really good player. And the thing about Drake May,
he'll be the number one and number two pick. People
had a chance to see Drake May and Kaylen Williams
(10:43):
on display last night, and I would say the thing
about Drake May that you love is composure of the confidence.
You love the prototypical traits that he brings to the position.
But he has so much where he can grow. I
would say, as good as he is as a prospect man,
and he still has some I would say some immaturity
in his game just from a lack of experience. If
(11:05):
he goes to the right situation, and I know we
always talk about, like hey man, you love to have
him sit and learn and do those things. If he
goes to the right situation with the right coach, this
guy can be an absolute star in the league. It's
just about getting him in the right situation, in the
right spot. And for comparison's sake, like being atar hil
the comparison between him and Mitchell Trubisky. People that bringing
(11:26):
it up because Mitchell was kind of like a one
year starter that ended up being the second overall pick.
I think they're light years apart in terms of prospect things.
Speaker 4 (11:36):
That you look for.
Speaker 1 (11:38):
May's leadership connectivity, but his teammates is different. His experience
is a little different because he's elevated as him, I
can't say that Trubisky elevated it. So when that comparison
comes along during the pre draft process. We'll have to
shoot holes in that and that theory. This dude's a
really good prospect, right.
Speaker 2 (11:58):
And last, but not least, this was a heartbreaker. Tyler
Loop hits a twenty four yard field goal no time remaining.
Twenty third rank Arizona rallies to beat up on Deon
Sanders and Colorado thirty four to thirty one Saturday. And
now it's four straight losses for Colorado, and you know,
the more they lose, and I know he wants to win,
I just afraid that he's not going to stay at Colorado, Dion.
(12:20):
I hope he does, but I expected more. I mean,
that was a game that had and they missed a
twenty four yard field goal early on, and Arizona comes
back and they hit that twenty four yard field goal
with no time on the clock and they lose by three.
A heartbreak. It really was.
Speaker 4 (12:34):
Ah yeah, But I mean it's growing pains.
Speaker 1 (12:36):
I don't know many coaches that have been able to
kind of jump right in and go twelve and zero,
or go to a big bowl game in New Year
six game or whatever. In fact, the last one that
I vividly can't remember is maybe when irber Meyer jumped
from Bowling Green to Utah and had Utah up and going,
and then he goes from Utah to Florida and those things.
I think the situations were a little different in terms
(12:58):
of whatdd he inherited. He inherited a one and eleven team.
The fact that they are four and six after being
one and eleven a season ago is a testament to
his coaching.
Speaker 4 (13:07):
The fact that he's lost.
Speaker 1 (13:08):
Maybe three one it's either three or four one possession games.
That's part of what happens when you have to turn
around a program. Before you can win at the highest level,
you have to learn how to kind of.
Speaker 4 (13:21):
To win the other stuff.
Speaker 1 (13:24):
And so we call it like you got to crawl
before you can walk, get a walk before you can run.
Right now, they're trying to go from crawling to walking,
which would be going from one and eleven to maybe
finishing five hundred, six and six and then you would
hope the next season you go from being maybe a
six and sixteen to being able to win eight or
nine games, and then that fourth year is maybe when
(13:46):
you make that significant jump. People going to take their
slings and arrows and put it on Dion just because
of the polarization, the polarizing nature that he brings. But
now he'll be fine if he understands it, has reasonable
gos and can recognize the significant growth that this program
is made.
Speaker 2 (14:03):

Speaker 2 (15:38):
This could be a trap that's coming right up about
twenty two minutes past the hour. He's Bucket Brooks and
Andy Furman. Football Time on Fox Football Sunday right here
on Fox Sports Radio and Colts Patriots nine thirty am
Eastern time today in Frankfurt, Germany. I tell you what,
if I'm a season ticket hole that we've gone down
that road. I'm really upset losing that home game. But
there's a biggest story here, Buck, and you know what
(15:59):
it is. This been a lot of buzz, especially in
New England, after a camera shot last week showing the
Craft family their suite at Julette Stadium last Sunday and
apparently catching the president of the Patriots, Jonathan Kraft saying
We're just not good enough, and Belichick's job security. Bill Belichick,
the coach, has been a daily talking point, at least
(16:19):
in New England, and he was asked Monday. Bill Belichick
was if he has received assurances from ownership that will
keep his job for the remainder of the season, and
Belichick said, oh, my focus is on getting ready for
the Colts. You wouldn't expect him to say anything else,
but you know, I get it. I think the Colts
probably take them today. They've banged up. Their defense is
(16:40):
banged up. The Patriots are, but I cannot believe that
they're putting these things out to the public after what
he's done.
Speaker 3 (16:47):
Look, I'm gonna.
Speaker 2 (16:47):
Say this he's the greatest coach NFL history, and now
he's got to worry about his job security. It's this
I would never want to work for those people, the crafts.
It's amazing what they're doing to him.
Speaker 1 (17:00):
Yeah, but I mean everyone is held accountable for their performance.
I would say the thing about the Patriots that's unique
is for us, we saw twenty years of dominance. Six
Super Bowls over a twenty year period, a team that
was always in the final four, always in the conversation
to go. That's unprecedent. That's an unprecedented level of success
(17:20):
in the National Football League. And what happens is after
you've kind of tasted the nective from the Victory Cup,
you want to go back.
Speaker 4 (17:29):
Unfortunately for the Patriots.
Speaker 1 (17:31):
You know, you lose Tom Brady, you also lose a
look an assortment of a collection of veteran players that
kind of help get that going, help establish that culture,
help win at the highest levels. And it's hard to
replicate that. And the thing that everyone in New England,
particularly within the organization, they have to examine themselves and look,
Bill Belichick obviously knows how to get us to the
(17:52):
winner circle. How much patience can we exhibit as he
kind of works through this. It's hard winning, and I
think they're beginning to acknowledge how hard it is. Yeah,
the team isn't good enough, and so what you have
to do is wait and hope that he is able
to improve the talent on the roster, make sure they
understand how they should play, and then they go about
playing the right way.
Speaker 2 (18:14):
Well, the Colts have a top ten offensive line, although
their NFL recorded are the worst scoring defense in the NFL.
I just got to believe because the Patriots are banged up.
I think the Colts take them. I think the Colts
take the Patriots. I hate to say that because I
hate to see Belichick getting more heat. He doesn't deserve it.
Speaker 4 (18:33):
Nah, he doesn't deserve it.
Speaker 1 (18:34):
And I mean everyone should be critical of what this
team is doing and how they're performing. They're underperformed, they're
not playing to the standard. But it's look winning. There's
some ebbs and flows to this game. And what you're
seeing is that play out in real time? Right?
Speaker 2 (18:52):
Well, I tell you we'll see what happens there. Do
you like the Colts in this game as well?
Speaker 1 (18:58):
Look for me, it's still hard for me to think
that the Patriots are gonna fall off and can't win.
So I feel like I have a tendency to pick
them every week, even though I don't have any evidence
as to why I should pick them. But I'm gonna
go pick them again. I'mnna pick the Patriots to beat
the Colts. Maybe the young quarterback play and some of
that stuff, I'm just gonna I'm gonna go with the Patriots.
Speaker 2 (19:17):
I hope you're right now. I mentioned coming into this
segment here like this could be a trap game. I'm
talking about the Texans at the Cincinnati Bengals today. T
Higgins the receiver, he's gonna be out. Sam Hubbert, he's
out today. Jamar Chase kind of a game day situation.
He's banged up a little bit as a bad back
the Texans. Last week, it was unbelievable. CJ. Stroud sets
a rookie record with four in too seventy yards passing,
tied another record as a rookie five touchdown throws, and
(19:40):
there was a final player of the Week of the game.
Last week. In the thirty nine to thirty seven win
over Tampa Bay, Strouds passed to another rookie, Tank Dell.
This is a surprising Texans team. No one thought they
would be four and four after eight games, and Stroud's
one hundred and forty seven point eight passer rating is
a rookie record for a single game. They had three
players Bill Brown, Dalton Schultz, and Dell top one hundred
(20:02):
receiving guards. This is not gonna be an easy task
for the Bengals today, although they're favored and I think
they should win, but with the injury factor and the Texans,
basically this could be one of those trap games.
Speaker 1 (20:15):
Yeah, it could be a trap game. But man, I
just love c J. Strout and I love everything that
c J. Strout has brought to the table, like his poise,
his confidence they're feeding off of, and the fact that
they're doing I would say with maybe lesser guys, lesser
lesser players at the position than others. Look, man, give
him credit. This is a team that is really scrappy
(20:36):
to scrap him on both ends. So I'm gonna take
the Texans in this one.
Speaker 2 (20:39):
Really, you know, is that to go to the injury
factor in Cincinnati? You just think they're just a better
team right now coming out there. They got the momentum, No.
Speaker 1 (20:48):
I don't think they're a better team, obviously. I think
Cincinnati is good. I think they have it rolling. But
here's where you have in the in the in the league,
every week we see an upset, we see an unlikely result,
And I'm just saying that this might be the week
that the Cincinnati being was just go down, not due
to anything in terms of the team being better for
some time. The ball just doesn't bounce that way. So
this would be my upset specialistic.
Speaker 2 (21:09):
Yeah, and you know what, Cincinnati is playing almost era
free football, which has to stop at some point in time.
You just can't do that every week. Entering this week,
which is Week ten, But entering last week, their offense
had just six turnovers and a plus seven point differential,
which is unbelievable in the National Football League. I mean,
it's got to stop sometime, and I gotta believe, you know,
(21:30):
losing a guy like Sam Hubbard, losing t Higgins, you know,
it puts their offense at risk right now, and their
running game is not up to par. You get like
Burrow as the second leading rusher on this football team.
I don't think that's a good thing. I really don't.
You got Joe Mixon basically is their leading rusher. But
he's only had you know, like one hundred and twenty
six attempts and he's only gained like four hundred and
(21:51):
some of the yards for seventy four to eighty yards.
The offense is not balanced. I get it. You got
a quarterback like Joe Burrow, You're going to pass, There's
no doubt about that. But I think the successful that
offense has to be a little more balanced.
Speaker 1 (22:03):
Yeah, the offense has to be balanced, Like, you can't
do it. They're not gonna be able to live on
Joe Burrow throwing it all over the yard, throwing it
fifty plus times against the elite teams in the AFC as.
Speaker 4 (22:11):
They kind of try and run through the gauntlet.
Speaker 1 (22:13):
They got to get more, they have to get better,
and we'll see how Zach Taylor is able to kind
of get it out of this team. But right now,
I mean, they're playing well because they're not turning the
ball over and Joe Burrow is playing at the best,
playing the best that we've seen this season.
Speaker 2 (22:28):
Yeah, and I'm going to go back and you probably
remember this game when the Texans beat Jacksonville at Jacksonville.
I was like thirty seven to seventeen. They gave Trevor
Lawrence a hard time, So there's no doubt in my
mind there's a possibility that that defense could give Joe
Burrow a hard time as well.
Speaker 1 (22:44):
Today they definitely can and haven't seen it firsthand. See
this strout and this team is a lot better. Man,
if you let them hang around the game, they will
find a way to win it. They've done it, They've
done a repeated lead. They're sitting at five hundred because
of their ability to do it. It's one of those
things that you have to give them credit for just
being scrappy and just know that when you play this team,
the game is going to be far more competitive than
(23:05):
many envision.
Speaker 3 (23:06):
Right.
Speaker 2 (23:07):
And I'll tell you what. Forget about the talent situation
in the Houston Texans. It's one of those situations where
a coach comes in there with that I hate to
use the term, with his sort of culture and changes
it similar to what happened in Detroit with Dan Campbell. Really,
I mean the new coach in Texas with the Texans,
I think he's basically turned it around with his culture
and they believe in him. I think that the talent level,
(23:29):
and maybe I'm mistaken here, Buck, you can help me.
I don't think there's that much of a difference in
talent from one team to another. Yeah, I get it,
some teams have not won many games. I mean, Carolina's
won one game. But I think sometimes a coach can
make a difference, and we saw that last year with Detroit.
They was like one in six starting the season. Campbell
came in there and I think that they started believing
(23:50):
in him. The same talent, the same players, but they
turned it around.
Speaker 4 (23:54):
Yeah, they absolutely turned it around.
Speaker 1 (23:56):
And Dan Campbell certainly did a really good job of
changing the persona, changing the energy, changing the expectation. But
more importantly, he made his team a gritty, a grizzled team,
a physical.
Speaker 4 (24:07):
Team, and you have a chance to win.
Speaker 1 (24:10):
You can win a lot of games with physicality, toughness
playing together, and the Detroit Lions are showing that. But
they also have assembled a really good team to go
with their quarterback, Jery Golf, and that has helped him.
Speaker 4 (24:19):
But think about how you started. We talked about exhibiting patients.
Speaker 1 (24:22):
Think about how bad the lines were when he started,
and how those first two seasons first season and a
half went before it kind of kicked in for them
at the end of last year. Since the middle of
the last season, they've been a dominant team. Like you
look at the record, arguably one of the best records.
It's not arguably, it's without a doubt. It's one of
the best records in the league. So give them credit,
(24:42):
no doubt about that.
Speaker 2 (24:43):
He's Bucky Brooks, I mean defermer. We are Fox Football
Sunday on Fox Bots Ready now, this man is a
one man wrecking crew that's coming up next on Fox
Live from the tyrack dot Com studio. But first our
own one man wreckord, Kevin Wyre with all your sports.
Speaker 3 (24:58):
Yeah, the San Francisco forty nine ers. We have a
couple of conflicting reports regarding they're all Pro tackle Trent Williams.
He's listed as questionable with his ankle injury. Adam Schefter
said that he is expected to play. He cited his
own source. However, Ian Rappaport citing his source, saying that
it's gonna be an uphill battle for Williams to be
able to play today against the Jaguars. He will work
(25:21):
out pregame. According to Rapaport, but he says it will
be a challenge. A couple other updates from Ian Rappaport.
Commander's wide receiver Curtis Samuel is expected to play today.
He was limited all week with a toe injury, listed
as questionable. Bengals wide receiver Jamar Chase is considered fifty
to fifty at best to play today. He's been dealing
(25:41):
with a back injury, and Rapaport's saying that while there
is no structural damage, he is in pain and it's
unclear how functional he will be, but they're gonna keep
the door open for him playing until game time. Vikings
tight end TJ. Hawkinson is expected to play. He's listed
as questionable with a rib injury. That's according to am Pella. Sero.
(26:01):
Wide receiver kJ Osborne has con clear the concussion protocol. However,
it doesn't mean he'll play. It was a significant hook
he took and Minnesota does want to check in on
him today to see if he can go. Ravens wide
running back Heaton Mitchell, who tweaked his hamstring earlier this week,
but he was a full participant in practice on Friday.
He has expected to play today. Pro Bowl quarterback Marlin
(26:24):
Humphrey is optimistic about playing, but he does need to
clear a pregame warm up. And then we have some
scores from college football yesterday, all of the top four
teams in the playoff rankings. One that includes top ranked
Ohio State and easy win thirty three against Michigan State
Number three Michigan on the road at number ten Penn
State without Jim Harbass suspended by the Big Ten for
(26:46):
his final three regular season games. The Wolverine's getting the
win twenty four to fifteen, So that sets up a
pivotal top three showdown in ann Arbor a couple of
weeks from now. Number four Florida State a good time
with it against Miami, but they do hold off the
Hurricanes twenty seven to twenty and number two Georgia despite
being in a top ten matchup with the whole miss
(27:07):
they made it look like it was an FCS team
they were playing, fifty two to seventeen. They beat the
Rebels back to you guys, all right, thank.
Speaker 2 (27:14):
You, Kevi seeing about an hour now. This is the
only way they could win. That's coming up next on
Fox LIFROMTHTI rack dot Com Studios. He's Bucky Brooks' Andy
fermanwee Fox Football Sunday and by the way, football fans,
be sure to tune in to Fox Sports Radio every
Sunday morning beginning of ten am Eastern seven am Pacific
for Countdown to Kickoff presented by Bett MGM, Brian No,
(27:34):
Jeff Schwartz had professional Bett, Bill Krachnberger. We'll have you
covered three hours before kickoff every Sunday morning. Listen to
count dooct to Kickoff presented by Bet mgm right here
on Fox Sports Ready on of course the iHeartRadio. At
now we have Bucky's midterm grains at about seven eight
minutes from now. But right now we'll talk about the
Saints and the Vikings. And I said, this guy's a
one man wrecking crew. I'm talking about Taysom Hill. Last
(27:56):
week's twenty four to seventeen went over the Bears. He
had a two yard touchdown cat, a three yard touchdown catch,
and a team high fifty two rushing yards. Fifth player
in the league history with at least ten touchdown passes,
ten touchdown runs, and ten touchdown receptions in his career.
Unreal and the Saints right now first place in the
NFC South. Who would have Thunken. Who would have thunken Bunkie?
Speaker 3 (28:18):
Really?
Speaker 4 (28:19):
Yeah, No, A couple of things.
Speaker 1 (28:21):
Tasty Mill deserves a lot of credit for being one
of the game's ultimate utility players. To think about where
he has come from, coming out of byu being a
quarterback that was off injured to being one of the
more dynamic weapons that the league has seen. Created the
Saints for fully maximizing his talents, using him as a quarterback,
using him as a tight end, wide receiver, running back.
(28:43):
He's given them kind of that added dimension to the
offense that they've needed over the years. His physicality and toughness,
particularly as a runner, has enhanced a running game that
has been anchored by Alvin Kamar. But I mean, the
only thing that is really hindered or hurt Taysom millis
he's just not good enough to be a four time quarterback.
(29:04):
And so it kind of look he got that parton shot,
that parton gift from Sean Payton, paid him a big
time deal, gave him a big time deal at quarterback money.
But he's been a nice weapon and the Saints are
sitting pretty Derek Carr comes over. I don't know how
much Derek Carr improved the team, but he kind of
stabilized the quarterback position a bit. They're sitting at the
top of the NFC South and they should be. This
(29:25):
is a team that has a loaded veteran Leyden defense
with big time all stars to get playmakers Gaalure on offense,
Alvin Kamara, Chris Olave, someone knows as Michael Thomas, who's
dealing with his own off the field issue. But it
seems talented enough to go. I don't know how much
damage they can do in the tournament, but they're certainly
good enough to be a thorn in some of the
top team side.
Speaker 2 (29:46):
Oh, they're playing in Minnesota today. Both teams are five
and four. The Vikings have a four game winning streak,
is the best active streak in the NFL right now,
and they have a one game lead in the conference's
final wild card Berth And I tell you right now,
it's hard to believe. You got to give a lot
of credit to the coach, coach O'Connell because they have
no one. I mean, Kirk Cousins has gone, Jefferson's gone,
(30:07):
justin Jefferson, So I mean they've really put it together.
You got to give a lot of credit to their
coach and the fact that the game is in Minnesota.
I just think they still have better talent than the Saints.
I think the Vikings take this game today.
Speaker 1 (30:18):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (30:18):
I like the Vikings.
Speaker 1 (30:19):
And one of the reasons I'll be big on the
Vikings because of the job that Brian Flores does.
Speaker 4 (30:23):
And continues to do with this defense.
Speaker 1 (30:26):
They bring pressure all over the field and that pressure
wears people down, forces people to turn the ball over.
I'm gonna go with them. I'm with you. I think
that four game Street deals to Fox.
Speaker 2 (30:37):
Yes, there you go.
Speaker 3 (30:38):
All right.
Speaker 2 (30:38):
Now, we got the Packers at the Steelers, and you
can talk about pressure. The Steelers have twenty six sacks.
The Steelers have sixteen takeaways this year, and I think
that's gonna be good enough to win. To give Nigie
Harris and Jalen Warren, they rush for twenty seven times
for one hundred and fifty seven yards. They had a
thirty two more rushing yards last year. Last week that
was when they beat the Titans. I just think the
Packers are in trouble today against the five and three Steelers,
(31:01):
and they're surprising me. They really are. I mean, the
Steelers right now undefeated against teams within their division. And
that's a tough division. That division would end today, all
those teams will go to the playoffs. But the Steelers
right now making a run for it. And I'm gonna
beat up on the Packers today.
Speaker 1 (31:18):
Yeah, their defenses is outstanding. The magic number to watch
is twenty two. When the Pittsburgh Steelers are able to
hold their opponents under twenty two, they really have a
really good chance of winning. It's some remarkable record that
they have in the Tomlin era. When they're able to
keep the score down offensively, they just need to manufacture
(31:39):
enough plays to get over that number. Whether it's getting
the ball to George Pickens, Deontay Johnson, find a way
to get Naja Harris off in the running game. They
have to find a way to kind of score points.
This is a team that is really opportunistic. They feast
off your turnovers and your mistakes, your self inflicted mistakes,
and the kicking game flips the field, gives them short feels.
(32:01):
It makes it easier for them to win. And so
the thing for the Packers playing against the Steilers is
they can't beat themselves big plays, turnovers, penalties eras on
special teams. They have to avoid that part of it
and make the Steelers beat them straight up. If you
can get the Steelers to have to play a straight
up game, hard for them to win. But if you're
(32:21):
gonna give it to them and give them opportunities, they're
gonna take advantage.
Speaker 4 (32:24):
Of it for sure.
Speaker 2 (32:25):
Well, there's no doubt about that. And now of defense,
obviously going to give Jordan Love a hard time. Jordan
Love has thrown eight interceptions in eight games, and honestly,
with that Steelers defense, i'd see maybe one or two
interceptions today. The Steelers are three and one when getting
two or more takeaways this year. They're tough. You know,
when I watched the stealer team play, you know, when
the seasons started, I thought it was gonna be Cleveland
and Baltimore or Baltimore and Cleveland won two. Maybe Cincinnati
(32:48):
thrown in there. And now Joe Borrow's healthy, Now he
wasn't healthy early on, but I didn't even count the
Steelers as a possibility as a team going far or
being a threat in that division. And I tell you what,
I come back and I apologize to coach Mike Tomlin
This guy's a hell of a coach. He's a Hall
of Fame coach. And look, he's never had a losing season.
I remember last year going into the final game of
(33:09):
the season and all the stories surrounding the Piposar Steelers
was that he's never had a losing season. And he
still has never had a losing season. I just think
that he does more with less every single year. And
he's one hell of a coach.
Speaker 4 (33:24):
He is a great coach.
Speaker 1 (33:25):
His coaching separates him from others. He can take whatever situation,
what every team he has and make them competitive.
Speaker 4 (33:32):
And that's the sign of a good coach.
Speaker 1 (33:34):
A team that may not have a level talent, but
you're able to kind of get a level performance from them. Man,
that's just a testament to the coaching. Give him credit.
This team is scrappy, They're always in it. They find
a way to win. And one of the trades that
I love about this team is just so resourceful.
Speaker 4 (33:52):
They're gonna be a problem.
Speaker 1 (33:53):
We talked about that AFC North is the best division
in football. All four teams are above five hundred, all
of them are current hold in playoff berth. So like
it or not, they find a way to get it done.
And all those teams have flaws, but they they're coaching
allows them to have a chance to kind of maybe
get to the tournament.
Speaker 2 (34:12):
Yeah, and that thing is gonna really iron out and
kind of stabilize the next couple of weeks because next
week Pittsburgh is at Cleveland and the following week Pittsburgh's
at Cincinnati. So you know, things are gonna take shape
in the next two weeks in that division. But they're
gonna be some great football games. I just hope everybody
stays healthy because I don't want to see one team
beating another team because the player or two was not playing.
Like today in Cincinnati, they got a couple of players
(34:34):
on the ship or of the game. I realized that.
But I want to see everybody be playing and everybody healthy.
Speaker 4 (34:40):
Yeah, I mean, you certainly want everyone to be available.
Speaker 1 (34:42):
I mean, the game is always better when it's best
on best, good on good, and so we do want
to see they won't see everyone healthy.
Speaker 4 (34:49):
I'm able to do their thing.
Speaker 2 (34:51):
There we go. He's Bucky Brooks. I'm any Firman with

Are you ready, Bucky Brooks?
Speaker 1 (35:38):
Yeah, let's do it.
Speaker 2 (35:40):
Here we go. Okay, Coach of the Year for first
half choices and I'm gonna give you the choices I
have And if you think I'm crazy, you could change
the choices. Mike McDaniel the Miami Dolphins, Dan Campbell of
the Detroit Lions, and John Harbaugh of the Baltimore Ravens.
Your choice for first half coach of the Year. Ye,
(36:00):
Bucky Brooks.
Speaker 1 (36:02):
This is tough because all the guys that you mentioned
have been great, But I'm gonna go with Dan Campbell
of the Detroit Lions. The Detroit Lions we thought would
be a playoff contender. I don't know if we thought
they would be a title contender, not doctor Kansas City
Chiefs in Week one, having a team that has pummeled opponents.
Speaker 4 (36:16):
Thereafter, yes, they had to hit.
Speaker 1 (36:18):
Up against the Baltimore Ravens, but I'm gonna go with
the Detroit Lions coach Dan.
Speaker 2 (36:21):
Campbell, you know what, I'm with you on that because
the Detroit Lions are playing with expectations for the first
time in years. So I agree there. As far as
Mike McDaniel's concern with the Miami Dolphins, you know, basically
they're six and three, but they're owing three against the
only contenders that they played. They fell forty eight twenty
to Buffalo, thirty one seventeen to Philadelphia, and last week
(36:43):
they lost to Kansas City twenty one fourteen. So yeah,
six and three, but against the big boys they're owing three,
and Harbaugh, you know there's a possibility there there's seven
and two. They beat up Seattle pretty good. The other
Day thirty seven to three in Week nine, but they
ranked eighth in offensive X backdated points added per play.
So you know, I think people thought they'd be decent,
(37:05):
But I think you're right about Dan Campbell. Bigger surprise there. Okay,
the MVP this year in the National Football League for
midterm grades will not be won by a quarterback. I
don't think that's my take. Tyreek Hill are the choices
AJ Brown or Miles Garrett.
Speaker 1 (37:24):
Hmm, that's a good and I would say Tyreek Hill
right now, Tyreik Hill is on pace to go over
two thousand yards.
Speaker 4 (37:31):
We saw Cooper Cup do it, but this would be
a little different.
Speaker 1 (37:34):
The way that Tyreek Hill accomplishes defeat, He's he makes
their offense nearly impossible to defend. His speed, the way
to use it horizontally and vertically stretches the defense from
inline to inline, sideline to sideline.
Speaker 4 (37:48):
So Tyrek Hill to me, is a choice, even though
I love what A. J.
Speaker 1 (37:51):
Brown has done and added to the philadelph Eagles.
Speaker 2 (37:53):
Right Tyreek Hill one thousand and seventy six yards for
the Dolphins. It ranked sixth in NFL history the first
nine games of a season. Okay, but right behind him.
As you mentioned, aj Brown, one thousand and five yards
through nine games with the Eagles ranks twentieth in league history.
And as far as Miles Garrett is concerned, no defensive
player has won MVP Armis from the Associated Press or
(38:17):
from the Pro Football Runners of America since Lawrence Taylor
did it way back in nineteen eighty six. And this
could very well be the year for Miles Garrett. It's
could be tough. But do you believe that perhaps maybe
a quarterback will not be an MVP.
Speaker 4 (38:34):
I think it'd be tough.
Speaker 1 (38:35):
I think down the stretch you'll see a quarterback emerge.
I mean, if you continue to see Joe Burrow do
what he's done the last couple of weeks at Cincinnati,
climbs back to promising Lamar Jackson what they're able to do.
You think about Lamar Jackson ranking in the top twenty
amongst rushers, leading the league in completion percentage in those
things at the end of the day, a quarterback with
Windy Ward, but it's nice to talk about other positions
(38:55):
right now.
Speaker 2 (38:56):
No doubt about that offensive rookie of the year you
mentioned his name early on today. I don't think there's
a there's an argument on that, and you know who
he is. He's a quarterback.
Speaker 1 (39:06):
Seed. CJ. Stroud is absolutely the one. I think this
is a runaway.
Speaker 4 (39:12):
It won't be close.
Speaker 1 (39:13):
Bryce young, he's not being able to get it together.
Speaker 2 (39:15):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (39:15):
C J.
Speaker 1 (39:15):
Stroud is the only young quarterback that is doing. But
I say, keep it eye Will Levis. He's flashed when
he's had his opportunity. Maybe Will Levis can kind of
jump in the race and do.
Speaker 2 (39:24):
Something and maybe pookin the coua perhaps, h yeah. Maybe.
I mean he's he's behind now Tyreek killing A J.
Brown in receiving yards. But I guess Stroud, you got
to say he's put the Texans on his back and
they're four and four and he's given the Texans hope
which everybody, perhaps at the start of the season never
(39:44):
thought they would. All Right, So we both agree CJ.
Stroud off as a Rookie of the year defensive rookie,
I say tackle Jalen Carter for the Eagles or maybe
even throwing the witherspoon maybe from Seattle. Perhaps.
Speaker 1 (40:04):
Yeah, he's a good one. I think to come down
to jay Len Carter being able to produce more splash plays.
He certainly has a lot of attention. He has been
able to be a disruptive force at the point of attack.
He's good with Aspoon is also a young player that
is playing really, really well.
Speaker 2 (40:18):
All Right, I think this is a no brainer. The
comeback Player of the Year has to be DeMar Hamlin
of the Buffalo Bills. What he overcame really and truly
is a miracle. It's incredible.
Speaker 4 (40:30):
It is incredible.
Speaker 1 (40:31):
Just for him to be able to get back on
the field is a major, major win for himlet it's
a major win for the Buffalo Bills community.
Speaker 4 (40:38):
So yeah, he certainly is deserving.
Speaker 2 (40:40):
And more than that, he established a scholarship name for
the ten medical professionals who helped save his life in Cincinnati.
List year, what a gesture, what a gesture, and look,
and any other year it wouldn't be him, and maybe
Bree swallowed the Jets, but it's definitely him, all right.
Bucky brooks Andy Furman, Fox Football Sunday, A quick peek
at the bat next Now, one NFL coach may be
(41:03):
changing his address. That's coming right up. Good morning, everybody,
This is Fox Football Sunday on Fox Sports Radio. He's
Bucky Brooks. I'm Andy Furman and we're broadcasting live from
the tire rack dot Com studios. Tire rack dot com
will help you get there and unmatched selection, fast free
shipping free road has a protection at over ten thousand
recommended in storellers. Tire rack dot Com The way Tyer
(41:23):
Barn should be Bucky Brooks. Hour two. We're rocking and
rolling right now, and I want to take a quick
look if you don't mind some NFL top rookies. The
first one, really, it's a no brainer. Really, his quarterback
a CJ. Straud. This guy has just one interception on
two hundred and seventy nine pairs attempts. The only other
quarterback will comes close to that efficiency is Lamar Jackson.
Three interceptions are two fifty three. So we got CJ.
Speaker 1 (41:46):
Strout.
Speaker 2 (41:46):
I'm sure we both agree that he's basically going to
be a top rookie this year, no doubt about that.
Speaker 1 (41:51):
Yeah, absolutely, yeah, he's absolutely gonna be tab rookey.
Speaker 2 (41:54):
Let's get a little tougher and a little tougher for
you right now. Running back, but John Robinson, Jamar Gibbs, Devon.
Speaker 1 (42:03):
Hn has been the one that has kind of been
a difference maker. Even though he's light, he's in a rotation.
He's the one whose speed has kind of been felt.
B John Robinson has been a little bit of a disappointment,
not necessarily his talent, but in terms of the Falcons
not getting him the ball.
Speaker 4 (42:18):
So I go that right.
Speaker 1 (42:19):
But the guy who can get hot down the stretch,
Jamar gives from the Detroit lines to begin to figure
out how to utilize him, we begin to see him
make a bigger impact on the game.
Speaker 2 (42:27):
Thought that about that wide receiver Pooka, Nakua z Flowers,
Jordan Addison or Josh downs.
Speaker 1 (42:40):
Man. Jordan Addison is the one that's coming on like
game Buss has stepped in for Justin Jefferson and has
taken off, and so I'm excited to see what it
looks like when he kind of gets it back together.
Pookao certainly deserves being that conversation because of all the numbers,
but Addison, his impact and his ability to be a
true number one, he is the one that's called my well.
Speaker 2 (43:01):
Addison has seven touchdown receptions that have him tied now
with Stefan Diggs, the second in the NFL. One shy
of Tyreek Hill. So it's gonna be a tough one
over there, but that'll open up, it really will. And last,
but not least a tight end. I think that's a
no brainer. With the Detroit Lion, Sam Laporter.
Speaker 1 (43:20):
Yeah, Sam Laport has been great. He's been great. He
stepped in the second round pick, has given them that
middle of the field presence that they needed. We thinking
about Amara Saint Brown being on the outside. But Sam
Laporter has quickly become one of Jered Goff's most trusted
targets in key moments.
Speaker 4 (43:36):
Been terrific.
Speaker 1 (43:37):
Fine, So you talk about the draft class, Jamier, give
Sam Laporter. Both those guys have stepped up right away
and being contributors.
Speaker 2 (43:42):
And Laporter has broke Detroit's franchise record for catches by
a rookie tight end forty three. He's currently on a
seventeen game pace for ninety one catches, nine hundred and
twenty two yards and eight touchdowns. So there we go,
and we'll put that in a little notebook here to
see the end of the year. In fact, these are
the award winners. I'm sure they would be. Now back
(44:04):
to the ball games at hand, and we've got the
Titans three and five at the Buccaneers three and five,
and the Titans quarterback Will Levis he's got to, basically
to win this game, exploit the holes in the secondary.
That's the same quarterback CJ. Stroud found against those same
Buccaneers last week. That's all he's going to do if
he can do it. Tampa Bay is good against the run,
(44:24):
and can Derrick Henry get it going against that good
defense against the run?
Speaker 1 (44:30):
No, I mean you already talked about it. It comes
down to Will Lof's ability to make place against a
Tampa Bay defense. The difference is Will Lovs is not
quite as polished as c J. Strou but he has
some big play capabilities. This offense looks differently when he's
in the game, so it'd be interesting to see how
he attacks a very complex and aggressive Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense.
Speaker 2 (44:52):
So what I'm hearing from Bucky Brooks is that you
sort of like the Titans to win this ball game.
Speaker 1 (44:58):
Yeah. I do kind of like the Titans. I think
found it where I think they have a lot of
confidence in the young player.
Speaker 4 (45:02):
So you're giving the.
Speaker 2 (45:02):
Titans, and I think this has maybe a mental aspect.
Look they've been terrible at home, and the game is
at home in Tampa. But they're coming off one of
the maybe one of the more demoralizing losses of the
entire NFL last year when they lost last week thirty
nine thirty seven to Houston. That was demoralizing, it really was.
(45:23):
I think that stays with you, doesn't it. I think
players remember that and it's tough to get that garbage
out of your mind. I think that affects you as
a ballplayer.
Speaker 1 (45:32):
Yeah, No, I think it has an effect on you,
for sure. It definitely has an impact when you can't
get those losses in those things out your mind. But
what you hope is that as a professional you can
kind of flip the switch and move on, get to
the next thing.
Speaker 4 (45:47):
We'll see how to handle it all.
Speaker 2 (45:49):
Right now, this is your team that forty nine ers
are playing at the Jacks today. Why receive a Deebo
Samuel He's out Trent Williams the offensive tackle. I mean,
there's some questions on him. Do you know if Williams
is going to play or not today? I don't know. No.
Speaker 1 (46:00):
I think it's a game time decision. They may not
know until right before kickoff. When they takeing me goes
out and he warms up and does all that other stuff.
So we'll see it's a huge, huge deal, huge situation
for them. If he doesn't play Man, it just changes everything,
you know.
Speaker 2 (46:16):
You talk about these two teams, certainly the forty nine
Ers a five and three, the Jaguars are six and two,
and you could easily say this that these are two
teams basically right now going in opposite directions. And the
forty nine Ers have lost three in a row, and
in those games they just scored seventeen points in those
three straight losses. So they got to turn it around.
I don't know if it's injuries or rock parties just
not getting it done any longer. I don't know. I
(46:38):
can't put a finger on it. Maybe you can, no.
Speaker 1 (46:42):
I mean, I think, and most good teams you have
these ebs and flows where your team is clicking on
all cylinders. They have some injuries that have kept some
of their stars out the line up. And brock Perty
is one. When he has the full compliment of weapons, Man,
he's as dangerous as it comes. He also has more
film on him and so as he continue u to play,
more teams are beginning to get comfortable and they adapt
(47:03):
and adjust to what he does. The role of that
Cayl Shanahan has to play. He has to make sure
that the quarterback is always comfortable. So whether that means
tweaking the scheme, adding some wrinkles and some nuance to
what they're doing, look, it may be necessary, but this
team is still the most feared team in the NFC.
Their physicality, their toughness, their skill. A few teams can
(47:23):
match that. So I expect this team to get it
going at some point, hoping it's not against my Jaguars today,
but this would be a great measuring stick game for
the Jaguars, even though they hate hearing that that they're
going to be measured against another team, they feel like
they've already there.
Speaker 4 (47:38):
Well, if they knock off the Niners, I.
Speaker 1 (47:39):
Think more people around the country begin to kind of
recognize them as one of the top teams in the NFL.
Speaker 2 (47:45):
Yeah, I certainly are they are one of the top teams.
But I think that we have to remember that the
addition of Chase Young's defensive end to the forty nine
just got to help that defenses, which is a pretty
tough defense anyway. But Chase Young is going to be
a factor. But you know how difficult is it for
some guy who just coming over to a new team
in midseason to get involved with that defense or any position. Really,
(48:06):
how difficult is that to make that transition.
Speaker 1 (48:09):
That won't be that bit of a transition because he
plays a D line position where seaball getball. There are
a few things that he had to pick up in
terms of their stunts in games and where he's responsible,
which Slane's he's responsible for.
Speaker 4 (48:21):
When they blessing those things.
Speaker 1 (48:23):
But a lot of times like an edge defender like
him and you just let him play and the thing
that he should benefit from and being in San Francisco, one,
he plays opposite Nick Bosa, so he's gonna get a
lot of one on one attention. But the other thing, man,
their scheme is one that you can play fast, you
can play free, you can just go and play in
attack mode. That's exactly how anybody and everybody should want
(48:43):
to play, right.
Speaker 2 (48:45):
I would say this that you're Jaguars today, And I'm
not saying this because stats you a team, but I
think they're gonna win this ball game. And I look
at the schedule coming after today, they got San Francisco. Obviously,
they got Tennessee and I think that's a beatable game. Houston,
obviously Cincinnati is gonna be a toughie, but that's going
to be at home, and that's a night game. Then Cleveland,
(49:06):
Baltimore too tough. He's there, Tampa Bay Carolina and Tennessee again.
You know this team basically is playoff bound and again
they went today. That's a tremendous confidence builder right there.
But you got to tell me about the emergence Eaton
as of what I ever thought he'd be in the
National Football League. Five hundred and eighty three total yards
(49:27):
right now is at the offensive line as he come
to become an NFL player. Right now, what has turned
him around?
Speaker 1 (49:33):
Well, you got to remember he missed his first season.
He had a foot injury, so he didn't play his
first season. Last year was basically his rookie season. And
now he's beginning to come into his own. He's coming
into his own because the kid is it's tough. He
gets on the edges. He has the ability to kind
of make it happen in space. He's an underrated receiver.
They found a way to kind of get him involved
in the passing game, getting the ball in space, and
(49:54):
he's a really good player. And if you ask me, really,
he's been the straw that stirs the dream offensively for
this team through the first part of the year. His
steady production on the ground has kind of stabilized an
offense that has underperform a little bit based on outside expectations.
We thought this team was going to be explosive and
dynamic with Calvin Ridley coming on board. It has just
(50:15):
kind of taken them awhile to hit their stride. The
one thing that has been their saving grace has been
Travis Etien being a very productive runner on the ground.
Speaker 2 (50:24):
You know, you hit the nail right on the head
because if you look at the receptions and the receivers
in this ball club, Ridley has thirty three receptions, eight
ten has twenty seven. So this basically eightn is is
a dual offensive threat running the football one hundred and
fifty one at tens for five hundred and eighty three
yards seven touchdowns. What I'm surprised right now is Trevor
(50:44):
Lawrence has not thrown more touchdowns. He's got nine touchdowns,
but he got four. Its his completion percentage is almost
sixteen nine percent. But seriously, I thought that they go
to the air more and he had more touchdowns in
the air. You know, you've got a guy that etn
He's got seven touchdowns just running the football.
Speaker 1 (51:03):
Yeah, it's the end. Is a guy who just finds
a way to get it done. And as did, Jaguars
continue to kind of gain recognition for the good job
that Doug Peterson and the staff are doing. More people
are being the cast there Arizona. It's the end, and
the running back position is in a bit of a
transition throughout the league. Guys are going away from the
old school running back, and that's just a hammer to
(51:24):
a guy that's a little more dynamic, a guy that
can give you a little bit as a receiver as
well as a runner.
Speaker 4 (51:29):
He fits the bill. He is there, he's a big.
Speaker 1 (51:31):
Time playmaker, and so a lot of excitement, a lot
of buzz around what he could do at the next level.
Speaker 2 (51:36):
Well and speaking the quarterbacks, to look at brock Party
right now. Certainly the guy was the last guy picked
in the draft. No one even expected him to be
playing little one starting for the San Francisco forty nine ers,
twelve touchdowns, five interceptions, but over the list several weeks
he's been throwing I mean, getting a lot of mistakes.
I mean, is this the brock Party that we expected?
Is he going back to form? What is this situation?
(51:58):
How is brock Party of a sudden now not the
same brock Party we saw before? You mentioned there's a
lot of film on it. Maybe that's a factor, but
maybe he was hurt. I don't know, but we're seeing
what we believe to be the person who should be
the last person picked in the draft not playing the
way brock Party was.
Speaker 4 (52:16):
No, he's not playing that.
Speaker 1 (52:18):
The league is tough to be great in the league,
and it's one of the reasons why you got to
have great appreciation for the Pat Mahomes to Joe Burrows
Josh Allens of the league that are consistently able to
play at a high level. It's so hard to do
because defensive coordinators are always changing and tweaking how they
approach quarterbacks.
Speaker 4 (52:33):
Each and every week.
Speaker 1 (52:34):
And the great ones are able to counter the counters,
meaning they have the ability to adjust to the adjustments
that are thrown at them and they find a way
to continue to succeed Brock parties in that phase where
he's trying to figure out how these teams are attacking him.
He's trying to figure out where the lines are, where
the boundaries are to his game, and he's trying to
(52:54):
do it within the framework of for He's nine offense
that is a bit run heavy, but it features play
action passes and those things. So it's look yet to
remember he's only a second year player. He's still trying
to figure out and he has what I mean, he
barely has what sixteen seventeen starts. Now, that's only a
full season. He's still learning. People have to give him grace.
(53:15):
He eventually finds his way out. Hopefully it's not this week.
Hopefully it's next week. But he'll get to the other
side of him. He'll be a better player and the
team will be better because of it.
Speaker 2 (53:24):
Now I have to apologize that I'm surprised you didn't
jump all over me because we talk about Jacksonville. You
got to talk about that defense because that's the key
for that ball club. You got Josh Allen, the real
Josh Allen, not the quarterback of Buffalo, the linebacker on Jacksonville.
Cornerback Darius Williams linebacker Fory Houlm. I mean, these are
the guys are getting it done. And you look at
Josh Allen, He's got more than half of the team sacks. Now.
(53:49):
Jacksonville has sixteen sacks as a team, Allen has nine.
So this defense has really come to play.
Speaker 1 (53:57):
Yeah, defense has come to play. Defense has been the
bigger surprise. The fact that they have been able to
make the plays that they've made, turning the ball over,
fourth down stops, red zone stops, all kinds of critical plays.
Speaker 4 (54:12):
Brilliant.
Speaker 2 (54:12):
Man.
Speaker 1 (54:12):
It's a testament to the job that Mike Halways done
getting this team up and going. I think there's a
lot of excitement about what they can do, but they're
about to be tested. You rite it off that schedule.
You talk about the Niners today, You have the Bengals
coming in about a month, get the Baltimore Ravens coming
in a few weeks after that.
Speaker 4 (54:31):
This defense will be testing.
Speaker 1 (54:33):
How they perform will ultimately determine how the Jaguars fade
finishes up.
Speaker 2 (54:39):
And I'm not saying this because I love you to death,
but I'm telling you right now you can mark it down,
write it down, because I know I'm not doing well
in bot and barrel betting, but I'm doing betting here.
The Jacksonville Jaguars win this game twenty seventeen on a
close one, a nail bier, but they're gonna win it.
Speaker 1 (54:56):
Oh man, I don't want to be biting my nails today,
but we'll see how it goes. See. Look, you'll be there,
should you go, and dough, we'll be there right there.
Speaker 4 (55:03):
There you go.

Speaker 1 (55:47):
What's up, guys. Welcome back to fox Worths Sunday. I'm
Bucky Brooks. We got Andy fourman on the horizon. I
can't wait to talk to you guys and continue to
talk to you guys about the NFL and all things
that are going have a great slate of games coming up.
We've been talking about the Jaguars forty nine Ers game
that I.
Speaker 4 (56:05):
Will be at.
Speaker 1 (56:05):
This is a great game because it's one where we
talk about two teams that are expected to be in
the title hunt. You had the Jacksonville Jaguars sitting at
six and two. This is a team that has gotten hot.
They've won five straight games. They've done it in all
kinds of countries and continents and states. They went over
and got two in London, played the Steelers, were able
to come back and get one, got one finally. Now
(56:28):
back at the Crib and then with the San Francisco
forty nine is this team.
Speaker 4 (56:31):
That has lost three straight.
Speaker 1 (56:33):
But what they've done is they've made some moves off
the field in terms of acquiring trade Randy Gregory and
then most recently Chase Young to really fortify the strength
of their team. And so all eyes will be on Jacksonville.
It'll be a prime time game, to be a game
that everyone is looking at in the first block of games,
and what everyone wants to see is which rock party
is going to show up? Is the first time in
(56:55):
his young career that we've had some We've seen some
struggles from the forty nine ers star quarterback. He's turned
the ball over more, he hasn't been as accurate as
he's been in the past when everyone kind of fell
in love with him as mister Irrelevant who kind of
took over and really guided this team and took this
team on a great run. And so we want to
(57:15):
see what does Kyle Shanahan do over the break to
get him right. In my estimation, I think this is
probably a little cleanup job. He's had five interceptions over
the last three games. So what you tend to do
is when a quarterback struggles like that is how can
we simplify the things that he's seeing? What can we
do to make the game easier for him? I would
expect to see more run game, more things with Christian
(57:37):
McCaffrey kind of doing his thing as a run of receiver.
You'll see Deebo Samuel, who comes back from injury. You'll
see him get involved. So you look for bubble screens
and quick things, high percentage stuff that can get him
into a rhythm. And then you'll see Shanahan dial up
some things all play action. This is a very difficult
matchup for the Jacksonville Jaguars based on the personnel that
(58:00):
should allow Kyle Shanahan to find a way to get
his young quarterback in rhythm.
Speaker 4 (58:05):
So that's the game.
Speaker 1 (58:06):
I'm gonna be at this game that the country is
going to be watching very very early on.
Speaker 4 (58:12):
But there's some other.
Speaker 1 (58:13):
Games that are of interest today. And so I'm sitting
here and I'm looking at the round robin that is
in the AFC North. People who talk about this being
the best division in football and some of the things
that are going on. So Cincinnati take on the Houston Texas,
Pittsburgh is taking on the Green Bay Packers. But the
game that everyone is watching, Cleveland goes to the Baltimore Ravens.
(58:35):
And the reason why this one is so interesting. You
have a Browns defense that is looked at the top
of the charts and so many different categories.
Speaker 4 (58:44):
Jim Schwartz has done a really good job of.
Speaker 1 (58:46):
Taking Miles Garrett and building his defense around his talents
as a unique playmaker at the point of attack. But
on the other side you have the Baltimore Ravens, who
rank number one in the league in scoring defense. Mike
McDonald had really taken a scheme and build it around
the unique talents of the players that he has around
(59:07):
them in Baltimore's funny because we always talked about the
Baltimore associate Baltimore playing great defense, but this is a
team that really doesn't have like the stars that were
used to Like from the Heyday era when it was
Ray Lewis and ed Reid, Sizzle, Terrell Suggs, you always
knew who their blue keyt their blue chip players were.
(59:27):
But I'm sitting here looking at the team and I'm
gonna read off the sack numbers. So Justin made Bouquet
is the one who is the interior defensive tackle who
leads this team in sacks with seven and a half sacks.
You have Calvin Nooid who's been a journeyman the last
few years, bouncing around from team to team, went from
the Patriots to the Dolphins, back to the Patriots, the Chargers,
(59:47):
and now he is with the Baltimore Ravens.
Speaker 4 (59:50):
He has five sacks.
Speaker 1 (59:51):
Jadevian Clowney, who is maybe the greatest that never was
as a former number one overall pick but never got
the sack production that you wanted.
Speaker 4 (59:58):
He has three and a half sacks. Let's go to interceptions.
Speaker 1 (01:00:03):
Geno Stone, who was a sixth seventh round pick out
of Iowa, leads the National Football League with six interceptions.
They're getting contributions from guys like Cal Hamilton and Brokeron
Smith and other guys, and so this is an unheralded,
almost a no name defense that is playing at a
top level and because of the schematics the creativity, they've
(01:00:26):
been able to get it done. So because you have
two good defenses, naturally the eyes will have to go
to the quarterbacks. Lamar Jackson versus Deshaun Watson. Three or
four years ago, this would have been a debate on
which one do you like better?
Speaker 4 (01:00:40):
Who would you want? Would you want Lamar.
Speaker 1 (01:00:42):
Jackson, who is the dual threat, the electric runner who
can do it with his legs sometimes with his arm.
Or do you want Deshaun Watson who back in the
day and nineteen, we were talking about celebrating this guy
as a top five quarterback, raving about what he brings
to the table with the intangibles and the qualities. We
haven't seen that DeShawn Watson in a long time. Today,
(01:01:05):
this game will kind of put the spotlight on what
DeShawn was and what will he be in the future
compared to a guy who's playing at an MVP level
and Lamar Jackson should be a great game to watch.
I'm really looking forward to that one because that one
has a lot of implications not only in the AFC North,
but it has playoff poll expectations in terms of to
(01:01:28):
dictate who's gonna be top seeds, who goes and all
this stuff. Even though we're at the halfway point. And
then the other game that I'm looking at that has
caught my eye.
Speaker 4 (01:01:37):
We talked about all these games.
Speaker 1 (01:01:39):
I'm gonna go to the last one, the Nightcap New
York Jets versus the Las Vegas Raiders. I am looking
at that game because the Las Vegas Raiders look so
different with Antonio pears last week against the New York Giants,
and even though it was the halfless Giants, they're playing
quarterback who was overwhelmed. The Raiders had a different energy
(01:02:00):
to them. And when you hear the players talk about
how there is more energy, more substance to bay In
was different, how it was a bit of a collaboration
between the coaches and players more than it had been before.
And you saw how they responded. I want to know
how did the Raiders keep this going? All eyes would
be there because everyone is the national game, it's a
(01:02:21):
Sunday night game. Everyone would have an opportunity to see.
Speaker 4 (01:02:24):
So this is a.
Speaker 1 (01:02:25):
Great opportunity for Antonio appears to fully audition for the
job while also showing Raider Nation and the rest of
the country how this team operates when they play on
that line. On the flip side, the Jets, Robert Sala
I think committed an egregious crime when he pled the
(01:02:46):
fifth when asked about Zach Wilson and why Zach Wilson
is starting to me these press conferences are the coach
really speaking to the team every time he steps in
front of the mic. The team ultimately hears all the
commentary and those things, and so the fact that he
was not able to definitively support his quarterback speaks to
(01:03:09):
maybe some unrests that's going on when it comes to
the quarterback room. And I'll say this, the Jets aren't
losing because of Zach Wilson. They're losing because they're not
good upfront at the offensive line. They can't run the football.
They haven't been able to consistently get the ball to
Gary Wilson, whether that's quarterback player, whether that's play design.
Gary Wilson has not been the same players that he
(01:03:30):
was in terms of impact a season ago. And then defensively,
this is a good defense and we're talking about him
is a great defense, but they don't turn the ball over,
so they don't give the offense extra opportunities with their turnovers,
and so the lack of takeaways to me, is troubling
because this defense has to know that for them to win,
(01:03:51):
they got to take on more.
Speaker 4 (01:03:52):
And by taking on more, it's not.
Speaker 1 (01:03:54):
Just holding teams to three and outs and keeping them
off the scoreboard. We're seeing turnovers because this offense is
gonna have a tough time driving the length of the field.
They're not an offense is built to go eighty yards
down the field. They have to figure out a way
to continue to put their offense in good position. And
so the only way they can do that is by
(01:04:16):
playing a little more aggressively. When it comes to hunting
the ball, the ball Hawks have to come out Saft
Guard and the DJ Reid they have to be able
to do that.
Speaker 4 (01:04:23):
Also, that's the matchup to watch.
Speaker 1 (01:04:25):
Saft Guard and the DJ read versus DeVante Adams all
pro wide receiver against two really really good cornerbacks. One
is regarded as an elite maybe the Premiership in the
corner of the game, and Gardner DJ Reid is right
behind him, well thought of in scouting circles in terms
of how he plays the game.
Speaker 4 (01:04:42):
That is a great matchup to watch.
Speaker 1 (01:04:44):
And so it's a very compelling matchup when it comes
down to looking at a is it going to be
the Jets defense that finds a way to kind of
get back on track. Can they help Zach Wilson versus
a Raiders team and a Raiders offense that looks the part.
Speaker 4 (01:05:00):
And so there we have it.
Speaker 1 (01:05:02):
That's what I'm looking for for today's game. It should
be a lot of fun. Should be a lot of fun.
Just kind of checking out this late.
Speaker 4 (01:05:10):
Let's go.
Speaker 1 (01:05:10):
I think we have a little break right now. We've
been breaking some news. See what's going on.
Speaker 4 (01:05:14):
What we got?
Speaker 3 (01:05:15):
Yeah, we had some injury updates playing. Oh that actually
broke overnight. Although we do have some conflicting reports regarding
forty nine Ers tackle Trent Williams, Adam Schefter saying a
few hours ago that he is expected to play against
the Jaguars. He's been dealing with an ankle injury and
listened as questionable. However, Ian Rappaport about three hours ago
saying that it'll actually be an uphill battle for Williams
(01:05:38):
to play today against the Jaguars. He will try to
work out pre game, however, according to Rapaport, it will
be a challenge. Rappaport with another update, saying that Commander's
wide receiver Curtis Samuel is expected to play today. He's
been limited all week with a toe injury, listened as questionable,
but is expected to suit up. Bengals wide receiver Jamar
Chase considered fifty to fifty apps best. He's been dealing
(01:06:00):
with a back injury and Rappaport's saying that while there
is no structural damage, he is in pain and it's
unclear how functional he'll actually be today. They'll keep the
door open until game time, so they're gonna wait as
long as possible before ruling him out. Vikings tight end TJ.
Hawkinson is expected to play. He's been dealing with the
ribbon injury. Listed as questionable. Wide receiver kJ Osbourne has
(01:06:23):
cleared the concussion protocol, however, doesn't necessarily mean he'll play.
It was a significant hit he took in Minnesota. Does
want to check him out and make sure he is
good to go. Ravens running back Heaton Mitchell full participate
in practice on Friday, so he's expected to play today. However,
Pro Bowl quarnback Marlin Humphrey is optimistic about playing, but
(01:06:44):
he does need to clear a pregame warm up. As
for the college level, we did have a full slate
of action on Saturday. All four teams in the top
four playoff rankings did win on Saturday. Number one Ohio
State rules over Michigan State thirty eight to three, Number
two Georgia, and it was a top ten matchup with
(01:07:04):
number nine onll MISS but it looked like they played
an FCS team with the final score fifty two to seventeen.
The Bulldogs win it. Number three Michigan despite missing Jim Harbaugh.
He's been suspended the final three games of the season
by the Big Ten. With the Dude get a road
win against number ten Penn State twenty four to fifteen.
So that sets up a pivotal showdown, possibly a top
(01:07:24):
three showdown in two weeks in ann Arbor Ohio State
and Michigan. Florida State escapes against Miami twenty seven to
twenty and then the big matchup of the Pac twelve.
Number five Washington holds off Utah number eighteen Utah thirty
five to twenty eight to Washington, chopping at the bit
for Ohio State and Michigan to play to see if
they can possibly leap frog into those top four standings.
Speaker 1 (01:07:47):
Back to you guys, Yeah, thanks, man, that's great. It's
funny you talk about college football and all the things
at college football has been able to discuss in The
Michigan scandal or situation has certainly put a cloud over
college football, but there are a.
Speaker 4 (01:08:03):
Lot of good things that are going on.
Speaker 1 (01:08:04):
You talk about this college football rankings list, and we'll
see what it looks like this week. But Florida State
firmly entrenched in the in the playoffs, and so that
is good to see because this is a team that
is Look, it's been out of the spotlight.
Speaker 4 (01:08:19):
For a while.
Speaker 1 (01:08:19):
I remember when they won a national title with Jameis
Winston didn't have some Uh.
Speaker 4 (01:08:23):
It's been up and down.
Speaker 1 (01:08:24):
Jim Jimbo Fisher LEAs Mike Uh when the tagger comes in.
Mike Norvil then takes over after that, and then he
is being able to get them back. And when you
watch this team, they knock off the U yesterday. This
team is exciting. Jordan Travis, their quarterback, is one of
the best in the business. He has not been talked
about in the Heisman discussion. Don't really know why he's
not been included. This is one of the best teams
(01:08:46):
in football. He is playing great for them. When I
talked to Mike Norvel early last week, he discussed about
how special Uh the quarterback is and what he's been
able to do, what he's doing in Torrents to throwing
Kean Coleman. Johnny Wilson played last couple of weeks, but
he has been a good player on the outside. They
have a defense that is fast and physical. Uh, it's
(01:09:08):
gonna be interesting to see what this team looks like.
Uh when when when they get into the the the
postseason and they play in the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (01:09:16):
But my eyes are in the SEC.
Speaker 1 (01:09:19):
And Curry Smart said it, Uh, he said it before
the game. He said, some of these teams need to
come and get some of this SEC and see see
what it's like.
Speaker 4 (01:09:27):
And I agree with.
Speaker 1 (01:09:28):
Him because it is a tough, rough, physical conference And
I'm sitting here and I'm looking how it's shaking out.
Speaker 4 (01:09:34):
Alabama wins.
Speaker 1 (01:09:34):
They clinched the SEC West with their win over Kentucky yesterday.
Jayden mill Row is playing great football for them at quarterback.
And then the Georgia Bulldogs are well on their way
to kind of clinching the East. So in the SEC
Championship game, we're going to have an opportunity to see
the Georgia Bulldogs take on the Alabama Cchrystal Tide. Which
everybody loves to see that, Like, I mean, who doesn't
(01:09:57):
want to see two great programs too, established programs that
have always been in the national conversation over the last
five years, they'll get a chance to square off an
SEC title game to see if one or both of
those teams go to the football playoff, and then in
a few weeks we can get a chance to see
two of the other teams that are listening to this,
Michigan and Ohio State square off. Now, the sign stealing stuff,
(01:10:22):
the theatrics, and the drama behind all of that certainly
is going to overshadow the game. But this is a
game where Michigan has dominated the matchup the last two times,
physically dominated them. Some of the strong replies that you
heard from Ryan Day at the end of the noted
Dame game when he was being interviewed by the reporter
has to deal with that part, that part of the
(01:10:45):
lack of physicality then being perceived as a soft team. Well,
they're going to have an opportunity to make amends for that.
But it's going to be a very motivated and inspired,
in salty Michigan team because they look at Ohio State,
they have talked about maybe and being a part of,
you know, giving away their signs to Purdue and maybe
(01:11:06):
diming them out to the conference, and so this would
be a very testy thing. But I don't know if
college football has ever been in a better place in
terms of the attention.
Speaker 4 (01:11:15):
Because outside of.
Speaker 1 (01:11:16):
That, you got Washington in Oregon who may rematch it
in the Pact, twelve Texas playing well. So there's a
lot of excitement about college football. Can't wait to see
what these playoff polls look like. It sounds like my
got back? Is my guy Andy Ferrman back? Is he back?
In the minute I'm.
Speaker 2 (01:11:29):
Here, I had to do my little I was running
around the block a couple of times. I'm okay, okay, man.
Speaker 1 (01:11:35):
Look, I don't mind you taking a little break in
the middle show. Going to get a little running, get
your exercise in so you can come back with clear mind,
get your thoughts out.
Speaker 4 (01:11:44):
And So college football, what are you mostly excited to see?
Speaker 1 (01:11:46):
I just talked about, Like, look, Georgia and Alabama or
on a collision course to play.
Speaker 4 (01:11:50):
We know that Michigan and Ohio State are.
Speaker 1 (01:11:52):
Going to be there, Florida State is penciled in as
a playoff participant, and then we have Washington and Oregon
and kind of doing their thing. It looks like they
have an opportunity to rematch it in the Pact, who
have title game. What are your thoughts right now in
the state of college football.
Speaker 2 (01:12:07):
Well, I think it's great because I think right now
there's no one dominant team. I mean, I think the
days of the Alabama is dominating everybody, except they dominated
Kentucky last night. I think those days are gone, which
is a good thing. I think that the playing field
is a little more even right now. You know, it's
very difficult for me living on the East coast and
Eastern time to follow what's going on in the Pac
ten and Pac twelve because I don't see those games
(01:12:30):
that they end so late on the Pac twelve network.
But it's great to see Washington and Oregon battling it out.
I was really upset last night when I saw a
UCF beating up on Oklahoma State that I was shocked.
That was a shacka last night because I kind of
root for Oklahoma State, was happy they beat Oklahoma last week.
Was that a letdown or was oh UCF that good
(01:12:51):
to beat Oklahoma State? I don't get it.
Speaker 4 (01:12:53):
Well, it was a mix of the weather. The weather
was bad.
Speaker 1 (01:12:56):
It was a bit of a monsoon, a storm. It
kind of over top of the stadium, so there was
a lot of rain, a lot of sloppy conditions. Oklahoma
State turned the ball over early and UCF got rolling,
and so they put themselves in a hold. I think
they were down twenty four to nothing very early in
the game and they never could get out of it.
(01:13:16):
It was weird, though, because I'm looking at the game
and UCF is in their light blues, a little powder
blue uniform, which you know their colors are black and gold.
So I couldn't really understand it, but maybe it signified
there was rain that was descending upon them for their game.
But it was very interesting to kind of watch that
play out. But no, Oklahoma State could not follow up
(01:13:36):
a great win at Bedlam with the game against UCF,
and so it was really really disappointing to see them
kind of fall apart.
Speaker 2 (01:13:43):
Pianali Gordon, I mean that guy right now with a disappointment.
Then last night he had like something like twenty five
twenty seven yards. He didn't do much at all last
night for Oklahoma State. Now, last week I was talking
about this guy as a possible Heisman Trophy candidate that
goes down to the crapper. That's the kind of that
right now.
Speaker 1 (01:14:02):
Oh yeah, you have to throw him out. You have
to throw him out. I think I think it's a crapshoot.
Everyone is trying to figure out who should be up there,
But I don't know, there's not there's not that that
that that gap with the signature game or the signature
name to to to kind of put up there. Michael
Pennix Junior, who leads the country and and and and
(01:14:24):
passing yards in those things, like he has thirty two hundred,
he has twenty six touchdowns, seven interceptions, but doesn't seem
like his name has a lot of buzz. The bow
knicks they've they've kind of throw thrown into the mix.
His completion percentages at the top of the charts, but
I don't know if he excites anybody. Twenty five touchdowns
only two interceptions, I don't know if that's going to
(01:14:46):
be enough to necessarily kind of get him in the mix.
Speaker 4 (01:14:50):
I don't know, man.
Speaker 1 (01:14:51):
I think it's I think it's wide open, and so
normally in these things, it ends up going to the
quarterback of the best team. No one has talked about him,
but I'm talking about him now. Jordan Travis from Florida State.
When you look at Florida State being undefeated. You look
at the fact that he has nineteen touchdowns only two interceptions.
Sometimes in these situations, it goes to the best to
(01:15:12):
the quarterback.
Speaker 4 (01:15:13):
On the best team.
Speaker 1 (01:15:14):
Right now, he would appear to be in the mix
because Carson back can't state that case.
Speaker 2 (01:15:19):
So wait a minute, it's about quarterback on the best team.
I still think Michigan is the best team right now.
What about JJ McCarthy, And but what about they're running back.
I mean Blake Carum yesterday he picked up one hundred
and forty five yards and twenty six carries. I mean
they were a running based team. But I think JJ
McCarthy what he is done for Michigan, that's big. I mean,
I don't know if he's going to get the highest
but I certainly think he's gets the votes.
Speaker 1 (01:15:40):
Yeah, he's certainly going to get some votes. Now people
that talk about that. But here here's the thing that
the viter the voters will have to wrestle with. Yesterday,
in a big game against Penn State, they didn't complete
any passes in the second half. They ran the ball
thirty two straight times in the second half. So we'll
get to it. On the other side, let's take a break,
most of you guys and finish up this hour.
Speaker 3 (01:16:00):
Great eggs, welcome back in. It's Fox Football Sunday. Here
Fox Sports Radio. Mike Harmon tagging in alongside Bucky Brooks,
working to eliminate the gremlins from the system. Man, we
are brought to you by Progressive Insurance. Progressive makes bundling
easy and affordable. You get a multi policy discount by
combining your motorcycle, RV, boat, ATV and more all your
(01:16:20):
protection in one place. Bundle and save at Progressive dot com. Bucky,
good to be in with you. You know we're about
to do something I've never done before. I've done a
lot of radio. You and I have been part of
a lot of broadcasts, and right now I get to
be obliterated and humbled by watching you dominate me in
one of the games that you love to play so much.
Speaker 6 (01:16:42):
Thank me. It's bottom.
Speaker 2 (01:16:46):
Funny to sleep. People, get my money.
Speaker 3 (01:16:47):
I'll put your brain to sleep.
Speaker 1 (01:16:49):
Betty.
Speaker 3 (01:16:50):
All right, Hi, Shay, how are you?
Speaker 1 (01:16:52):
I mean?
Speaker 7 (01:16:53):
Welcome man. I feel like Andy's just had enough. I
feel like you can't take the losses anymore.
Speaker 1 (01:16:57):
Bucketing. Oh no, you know what, there's something to beating
people into submission.
Speaker 7 (01:17:04):
It's I think he's taken up running. I think that's
what he's doing right now.
Speaker 1 (01:17:08):
I think, I.
Speaker 3 (01:17:10):
Think is that one of the pieces of the equation here,
we're gonna pick long distance running or what I mean.
Speaker 7 (01:17:17):
It has been a part of the show, but not today.
Not today. Well, we'll give you some new ones though.
We got some new ones, some interesting ones, and we'll
start with the first one, which actually actually is a
staple of the show. Cech Republic Table Tennis Liga Pro.
Bucky knows it. I don't know if you know it, Mike.
Speaker 3 (01:17:33):
But I'm a little afraid right now distinct competitive advantage.
He's got a bigger reach too, So I mean anything
I hit to the edge of the table, I'm screwed.
Speaker 7 (01:17:42):
I mean, Bucky's a multi sport athlete, of course, he
knows what he's doing. Micah Zobach is taken on dominic
lengal at five a m Pacific standard time, so in
basically ten minutes, micah Zoback is minus one twenty five
while dominic lengal is minus one fifteen. Harmon, take it away.
Speaker 3 (01:18:00):
Take the chalk. We're gonna go with soap back to
take care and dominate business today.
Speaker 7 (01:18:04):
Okay, okay, easy, that's easier, right.
Speaker 3 (01:18:07):
I think I'm not gonna overthink it, Bucky. I mean
try going over to you.
Speaker 1 (01:18:11):
Just we're just gonna take all the favorites.
Speaker 3 (01:18:13):
I'm not saying that the people.
Speaker 1 (01:18:15):
You can be the people's champ today. That's what we're
gonna do. Well, you know what, Okay, well, yeah that's fine.
I'll go with the underdog. I'll take the underdog like
you like my guys. Yeah, I'm gonna take Link. I'll
go with him. I just have some confidence that the
people don't always know what's best, that let's go against
the grind.
Speaker 7 (01:18:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:18:35):
I like the fact that you're you're kind of taking
the NFL underdogs and unders and applying it to another shot.
Speaker 7 (01:18:44):
In the International Champion of Champions.
Speaker 1 (01:18:47):
What a name.
Speaker 7 (01:18:48):
This is a professional, non ranking snooker tournament. And I
don't know if you're not familiar with what snooker is,
it's basically a pool table.
Speaker 3 (01:18:56):
Yeah, let's go.
Speaker 7 (01:18:58):
Luca Brisel is taking on Marry Hawkins this Tuesday, the fourteenth,
at five am Pacific Standard time. They're both coming into
the match minus one fifteen, so it's not helping you
hear Mike, Oh.
Speaker 3 (01:19:10):
It's an even matchup. I'm gonna go with the Hawkins
in this match. And you know, just I start thinking
of Hawk, going back to Avery Brooks and the character
he played, so well.
Speaker 1 (01:19:21):
Yeah, I do remember Hawk.
Speaker 3 (01:19:24):
I do like that when I get that directed.
Speaker 1 (01:19:29):
Now I'm all distracted and you're talking about Hawk and
Hawk was such a bad, bad guy. So who give
my other choices against Brissell? I got distracted?
Speaker 7 (01:19:38):
Luca Brissell and Barry Hawkins.
Speaker 4 (01:19:41):
Okay, who's the favorite? Which one?
Speaker 7 (01:19:42):
They're both minus one fifteen?
Speaker 4 (01:19:45):
Oh okay, well let's go with Luca. I can't he
took Hawk.
Speaker 3 (01:19:47):
I'm not gonna go yeah, yeah, but go back to
you know, a season a man called Hawk from nineteen
eighty nine. We had Moses Gun and Angela Bassett in
that show. Come on, how do you lose?
Speaker 4 (01:19:59):
Oh my goodness, that is dead is funny? Yeah, houck man.
He was a bad guy.
Speaker 3 (01:20:04):
Yeah see, now we got it going.
Speaker 7 (01:20:07):
In the International Women's euro Basket League, Netherlands is taking
on create Croatia later today at nine am Pacific Standard time.
Netherlands is plus one sixty five while Croatia is minus
two twenty.
Speaker 3 (01:20:20):
Alright, wait, they're weaving baskets.
Speaker 7 (01:20:22):
What is it euro baskets of basketball?
Speaker 3 (01:20:24):
Oh, it's actually basketball. It's actually right, Netherlands. I'm gonna
keep going back to like their basket weaving and they've
got to have a good I'll take the Netherlands.
Speaker 1 (01:20:35):
Man like. But guys, he's taking my guys. All right,
I'm going to the other side. I'm gonna go to
the other side. We'll figure out. I'll take it all
underdogs today.
Speaker 3 (01:20:42):
Okay, good continue here on Fox Football Sunday. Karma is
the guy on the Chiefs coming home straight to me?
Those words from Taylor Swift in Argentina with her guy
Travis Kelcey and attendance. The Chiefs one of four teams
off the buye here Week ten in the National Football League.
(01:21:03):
Mike Carman alongside my guys Andy Furman and Bucky Brooks
at Andy Furman FSR at Bucky Brooks where you find
them on Twitter. I'm sorry, I did not try to
sing like Taylor Swift. The voice a bit scratchy yesterday
as the girls that I got to go experience some
Adam Lambert and Queen at Bemo Stadium, so a little
bit rough after two hours of a single long anybody
(01:21:24):
want to sing bicycle race or something to get started? Andy,
you ready like yet?
Speaker 2 (01:21:29):
No, let me goggle first.
Speaker 3 (01:21:32):
That's one of the great words of the English language.
Bucky gurgle.
Speaker 1 (01:21:37):
Yeah, Yeah, that's that's a new one.
Speaker 3 (01:21:40):
See, we always have to have different angles. As we
get rolling here live from the tire rack dot Com
studios tire rac dot com. We'll help you get there
an unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free road hazard protection,
and over ten thousand recommended installers tireract dot com. The
way tire buying should be to finish the thought Kansas
City off along with Miami, Philadelphia and the Los Angeles Rams.
(01:22:03):
In other words, you have lots of holes in your
fantasy football lineups. Over the next two hours here on
Fox Sports Radio, maybe we'll fill in some of the
gaps and reminder, we have one more final game from
Germany as we've got the Colts and the Patriots getting
after it and guys, this week, I didn't hear anybody
complaining about the scheduling of this game being in Germany.
Speaker 2 (01:22:25):
You know why no one cares about the game? It was?
Speaker 1 (01:22:31):
It was, It wasn't a Marquee game. That's what we
were advocating. Give them to give them the crumbs. Don't
give them the good games, give them the break crumbs.
You want to give them to file a. Last week,
we gave them to file a.
Speaker 3 (01:22:42):
And they celebrated every minute of it, as did we
because people got up early. The ratings said so although
nine point five million people sat through the Bears and
the Panthers on Thursday Night, showing that, you know, there's
no accounting for taste when it comes to football, one
where or another where. Jason Kelsey's interview with Al Michaels
(01:23:04):
might have been the highlight of his season. As we've seen.
Speaker 2 (01:23:08):
That Thursday Night. Who's that guy? Because I'd like to
apply for that job. I mean, really, you've got to
be an idiot to put those games on Thursday Night.
I mean really think about that. I mean, you look
forward to a game and look, if you're going to
be the only game on the night where the nation's
watching and everybody in the league is watching that game,
can you give us a better product than that? And
(01:23:28):
I get it, I know the Jets basically without Aaron Rodgers,
but you could flex. Why can't they switch it to
last hour. I don't get it.
Speaker 3 (01:23:35):
Yeah, flexing Thursday Night's whole other animal, I think. But yeah,
as we get deeper in the season to this point,
they haven't flexed out anything, right. They had the opportunity
to flex out tonight's game, But no, we're gonna get
Jets and Raiders. Yay, which is good because the game
will be done and if the Jets go and get beaten,
(01:23:57):
then I don't have to listen to Smith Crow about
anything tomorrow as he and I get back on the
airwaves from seven to eleven here. But yeah, I mean
it's you know, the primetime schedule. I always say, we've
got two hundred and seventy two of them, guys, let's
make the best of it, and they're not all going
to be winners. Some have to be ranked last. Now,
it seemed like some folks got confused. I'm not going
(01:24:19):
to name names about the implications of wins and losses
coming out of that Thursday game. I'm not in the
same tax bracket, but I at least know these things.
But we would come through the process, and here we
are on a Sunday morning, and we get to celebrate
a whole new slate, except for the fact that several
of the heavyweights are out, so this might as well
have been sending the game into an early morning EU
(01:24:42):
appeeing destination. Because, folks, if you haven't been paying attention
to the rest of the NFL by scheduling the bye
weeks as they did this week, outside of the RAMS,
the NFL is forcing you to watch other games and
make your acquaintance with some other players along the way.
Speaker 5 (01:24:58):
I erede.
Speaker 3 (01:24:58):
You guys talking a little bit, Sam Francisco, Jacksonville. Obviously,
Bucky you're on that game the forty nine ers. I
like that in the middle of the night, you guys
have been up a while. Maan at one point thirty
in the morning, we're getting conflicting injury updates. That's where
we're at in the year twenty twenty three, Andy Information.
Guys don't get to sleep Saturday and to Sunday anymore.
Speaker 2 (01:25:19):
Right, and they shouldn't because they get six months off,
so let them work for six months. I mean, it
is a big deal, really, and I think with the
advent of gambling, and when I said, there's always been
gambling like in Vegas, but now there's gambling on your
phone so I think people want to see what's going
on last minute because those odds are changing. I'm not
one of those guys that kind of lives for the odds,
but certainly there are a lot of people that do,
(01:25:40):
so they want to see what's going on. Well.
Speaker 3 (01:25:43):
Obviously also just the cash influx to what an insider
and their value to these respective organizations. So yeah, it's
become an interesting part, but you know, just to stay
on that game for a moment. Bucky Trent Williams, the
conflicting report with Brock Purty the last couple of weeks
and his struggles. He's looked like a jag right as
(01:26:06):
we go through, not to say, hey, you know, as
a Jaguar, but you know, the just a guy moniker
as opposed to the celebrated person he'd become through the
early early part of the season. And going back to
last year, they've upgraded on the defensive side. So we'll
see Gregory, we will see the trade that they made
to bring in Chase Young and whether his body can
(01:26:28):
hold up for the second half of a season. But
how much does Trent williams absence really restructure what Shanahan
has to do.
Speaker 1 (01:26:39):
I mean, Look, you can make the argument he's their
best offensive player. He's all Pro tackle who gives him
the bully mentality at the point of attack. You've seen him, man,
they put this guy in motion. He cleans out people
at the point of attack, moves people off the ball.
Is Hugh was lost, he's not there, It changes a
little bit of how they go about their business. This
(01:27:00):
run the football. But you're losing a premiere run blocker
and pass protector, so things can quicken a little bit.
Speaker 4 (01:27:06):
For Brock Purdy.
Speaker 1 (01:27:07):
You talk about someone who's made five who's had five
inter episode of the last three games. The last thing
you want to do is kind of make him feel
uncomfortable in the pocket. If you're Kyle Shanahan, if Williams
isn't available, he's going to be uncomfortable.
Speaker 4 (01:27:19):
If he's going to be uncomfortab, he's going to end
up making mistakes.
Speaker 2 (01:27:22):
Now, would it be fair to say Bucky and Michael
if I may that the injury that Deebo Samuel and
of course Christian McCaffrey has been heard now he's back,
I think that is to the damage of what they've
had over the last three weeks, because, as I mentioned,
early on. When they're playing Jacksonville today, you're looking at
two teams going in opposite directions. Right now, they've lost
(01:27:43):
three straight and they've scored only seventeen points in those
three losses.
Speaker 3 (01:27:48):
Yeah, I mean, yeah, you look at the backfield behind
McCaffrey with the oblique, they didn't really have a big option,
right Jordan Mason and Elijah Mitchell's been banged up a bunch,
and Deebo Samuel. It was really you know, through the game,
login and Bucky obviously you're reading the tape and going
through it with the fine tooth comb with your scouting acumen.
(01:28:09):
In years in the league, I mean, Debo from an
offensive standpoint was more of a decoy than an active
participant in most weeks, even before the injury.
Speaker 1 (01:28:19):
Yeah, I mean, he wasn't like crushing him. And also
he's more of a playmaker than what I would call
a pure receiver. He's a guy that you're just trying
to put the ball in his hands and allow him
to go to work on the perimeter.
Speaker 4 (01:28:29):
That's how they utilize him.
Speaker 1 (01:28:30):
He's basically an extension of Christian McCaffrey, but their roles
are reversed. He is a receiver slash running back, where
McCaffrey's a running back slash receiver. So their priorities are different,
but they accomplished the same thing.
Speaker 4 (01:28:43):
With him back, it.
Speaker 1 (01:28:44):
Allows you to kind of use some of the fly
sweep game. It allows you to be a little more
creative with the formations to make it easy for perty
in the identification process. So his return will help them
schematically and creatively find a way to make the game
very easy for the quarterback.
Speaker 2 (01:29:01):
Now let me circle yeah, without Troub Williams, I would
say that without trub Williams, look for Josh Allen to
have a big day today to really upset rock party.
Josh Allen the linebacker over there in Jacksonville, And I
know one knows some better than Bucky Brooks.
Speaker 3 (01:29:14):
Well, especially when we can get dueling. Josh Allen's that
that flow through the the NFL as well. So you're
helping to make a name for a man who, well,
the other guy's got the name and recognition. So you
get a little bit more love for Josh Allen. Maybe
he's got to get a cool nickname. Does he have
a cool nickname with the team there?
Speaker 1 (01:29:33):
Bucky, Yeah, Josh Allen, that's it the same my name.
Speaker 3 (01:29:39):
I did that. Hey, let's circle back to Indy and
New England. Obviously, you know, Andy, through the years, you've
developed a little bit of a back and forth with
Bill Belichick. You've had him on on your programs in
the past. Uh. And on the other side, we've got
the cold stike in the first year, Guy and Gardner,
Minshew and all I talked about the inside staying up
(01:30:00):
late at night and trying to figure out which way
the wind is blowing. Same thing in New England as
to whether Bill gets it an early European holiday. Should they
lose this one.
Speaker 2 (01:30:13):
You know, they have to find a way to protect him,
with or without Trent Brown playing for the Colts. I
talk about protect I'm talking about Matt Jones. I mean,
I'm surprised really that Bill Belichick has stayed with him
this long. But if you watched the game last week,
he was playing everybody in the secondary on the defensive
side of the football. Everybody got a chance to play.
(01:30:34):
And Bill Belichick was questioned about that, you know, are
you looking for next year? Are you doing this? And
he just said everybody got a chance to play. So
I think it's Bill Belichick's I guess disciplinary action that
he's being somewhat of a toughie, which he is. He's
an old school kind of guy, and I think he's
putting some guys in the backseat who haven't been performing.
He wouldn't stay that publicly. He wasn't embarrassed the players,
(01:30:55):
but I think that's what he did last week.
Speaker 3 (01:30:57):
Yeah, Becky, these.
Speaker 2 (01:30:58):
Guys weren't playing. He just didn't start him.
Speaker 3 (01:31:00):
Yeah. I mean, look at they left J. C. Jackson,
they traded for him. He had a couple of great games. Right, Statistically,
it's like, oh, he's back in a system he likes
and everything's great, and then he doesn't show up for
work on time, so he gets left home.
Speaker 1 (01:31:14):
Yeah. Now I'm with him on that. Like, no matter
what's going on, if you're Bill Belichick, like, there's certain
things that are standards and expectations of the program, and
you can't bend on those things, regardless of the record,
because if he starts bending on those things, it would
just completely fall apart. There's still hope. I would think
that he can salvage the situation. He has to believe
(01:31:34):
in that and so not kind of bending on those
principles I'm with overall though this team.
Speaker 4 (01:31:41):
This team is losing.
Speaker 1 (01:31:42):
Yeah, people can talk about the talent deficit of whatever,
but this team we've never seen in a Patriots team
over the past twenty years, right prior to like Tom
Brady departing, we never saw this team beat themselves. More
than anything, they were the team that even when they
didn't have the talent, they always had the big joker
and the holster in terms of Tom Brady, but they
(01:32:02):
would wait for you to implode and they would seize.
They would take advantage of the opportunities that you give them.
Now they are the ones that are giving the ball
away on turnovers, stupid penalties. They can't get lined up
so they're blowing assignments. We've never seen this, So to me,
Bill Belichick has assembled a team that's not really like
(01:32:25):
the version that he wants. He normally has a smart
team that plays discipline in detailed. They're not that, and
I don't know where it went wrong, but they certainly
aren't like the teams that we've seen in the past,
just in terms of their level of execution.
Speaker 3 (01:32:40):
Fox Sports Radios, Fox Football Sunday, Hey football fans, be

Fox Sports Radio and the Iarheart Radio app. Yeah, they'll
have in game betting probably really pushing to the under
in this game, as sixty two percent of games have
come to the under. For all you betting folks out there,
you know you've been hammering those numbers. Five games again today,
guys with over unders of forty or less. Yay, where's
(01:33:24):
all my fantasy scoring coming from? I don't know. We'll
see if we can pick a game out of a hat. Oh,
I know, how about we talk about the one that's
going to be played here later on at SOFI Stadium,
a team that is suddenly America's darling and the one
that in Los Angeles. It's been a lot of wishing
and hoping. Can they the hoping side of things? I mean,
it is the holiday season really early, and I'm taking
(01:33:46):
great liberties here. Can they get a holiday gift for
one NFL team? We'll talk about xt on Fox. Hey,
welcome back in Fox Football Sunday, Fox Sports Radio Mike
alongside Andy Furman and Bucky Brooks having a blast with
you here. Find me over at Swollen Dome in the socials.
You've got fantasy questions, be happy to try to lead

(01:34:29):
marquee matchups of the day. And when you see the
names and you read the names, you say, wait a minute,
what am I doing here? But it's reality as the
Detroit Lions and their fans that we've seen one of
those teams that's starting to travel really well. You know,
winning will do that for you. They're coming out here
to Los Angeles and they're taking over Hollywood and everything else.
(01:34:52):
Three point favorites on the road. The Chargers, still trying
to figure out how to generate any kind of offense
in the second half, bought a fun team to watch
at times. Keenan Allen's stat for days and while Joey
Bosa and Khalil Mack one of the great dynamic duos
in the pass rush game. But Andy, you know, taking
on the identity of their coach, Dan Campbell, and we
(01:35:16):
talk about coaching quite a bit. Man, this is a
team that suddenly has become one of America's teams. Here.
Who would have thought that nobody's better for them to
be taking off Thanksgiving this year?
Speaker 2 (01:35:26):
You know, I mentioned as a buckets kind of seconded
earlier today we talked about this is a team that
had no expectations at all, and now their expectations are
larger than life. And it's great, great for the fans
of Detroit. And they're playing a team that right now
has a defensive weakness. They can't defend the pass. I
want to talk about the charges right now. So I'm
looking for a big game out of the Monros. Saint Brown,
(01:35:47):
Jamison Williams, Sam Laport of the tight end. I mean
it's going to be a real big game. I think the
Lions winning it went big like something like thirty thirty, fifteen,
thirty seventeen, something like that, because honestly, I just think
the Lions right now are on the best teams in
the league. You talk about the top three teams the league,
you gotta mention the Detroit Lions the six and two.
Speaker 1 (01:36:07):
I mean, they absolutely one of the top teams in
the league. And it's not even just like them winning.
I would say the thing that they have done a
great job of is their brand is on display every week,
meaning they talk about being tough and gritty and physical.
See that, and what I see is a team that
certainly understands who they are. They play to their strems.
They have a dominant offensive line, They move people off
(01:36:29):
the ball. Defensively, they gotten so much better because they
simplified what they do on defense. Went for being a
man and man team to his own team. Aaron Glenn
deserves a lot of credit for what he's done. And
they play hard and I can't understeal like that trait
of just playing hard, playing from snap to whistle, finishing plays,
being physical and all that. They become one of the
(01:36:51):
teams that you hate to face.
Speaker 3 (01:36:52):
Well and this week and look, Jared Goff always dominant
at home on the road. A little bit of me
still three and one, but the percentages and number of
sacks and touchdown, the interception, whatever kind of dips. But
you get David Montgomery back, and certainly I've got Mark
as our technical producer. We remember David Montgomery running well
(01:37:13):
for the Bears fairly consistently, and then he gets a
giant deal to go over to Detroit and remember what
he did before his injury. The fact that you can
still play the game as they do with Jamiir Gibbs
and you don't have to overload them. I mean, it
sets up for a really nice second half for the
Detroit Lions offensive. He's still trying to bring Jamison Williams
(01:37:35):
really into the fold, right, Sam Laporta. I mean, you
got more offense out of him this year than Iowa
has in all their games combined. See what I did there.
Speaker 2 (01:37:44):
The late breaking news, late breaking news story. Justin Herbert
was up all last night thinking about Aiden Hutchetson. He
had nightmares. That late breaking news story right.
Speaker 3 (01:37:54):
There, there you go, Bucky Andy Furman, NFL Insider, I
kind of dig well, yeah, I mean, those pass rushers
will give you a fit, there's no question about it,
trying to figure out, especially when you had a his
I mean, look, let's face it, the Chargers leaky offensive
line at times been solidified with Slater being back there.
(01:38:14):
But what do you make of the fact that you
know in the second half of games here, Bucky. I mean,
you've been around the league, playing in the league. I
mean as a as a defensive player, as a guy
on a squad, you know you're doing your best trying
to hold down the ford and the offense isn't isn't
getting anything together. Eckler's starting to move a little more
(01:38:35):
as a runner, right, He's been a pass receiver. That's great.
But outside of Keenan Allen, they've got nothing else established.
It's tough going for Justin Herbert and certainly well we
don't even we haven't even mentioned Brandon Sdale. He's like Voldeborg,
he who must not be named.
Speaker 1 (01:38:51):
M I know, like it is, it is funny when
you mentioned that, like Brandon Staley, I don't say he
gets the ultimate pass, but he has done a really good.
Speaker 4 (01:39:00):
Job with this team.
Speaker 1 (01:39:01):
I see a team that's very talented on paper, but
they don't play to the talent in reality. And if
you're the Spanos family and you're looking at this team
and you're trying to figure out, why are we underachieving?
Is I always say the mismanagement of personnel. At the
end of the day, the game is really simple. Your
best players have to have the most opportunities to pick
the biggest impact on the game. That's your job. When
(01:39:25):
you're coaching your team on defense, your job is to
make sure that the best players from the opposition they
don't have those opportunities. You take them away, you make
them beat you left handed. We've seen that for years
and it's worked out for the Patriots and others. They
take an approach of we want to make the team
play left handed. When I look at the charges, the
charges fail to do so consistently, and it's one of
(01:39:46):
the things that you wish they could do because this
is a talented thing.
Speaker 4 (01:39:49):
I love justin Herbert, I love the weapons that they have.
Speaker 1 (01:39:51):
They just don't play to their strengths, and you just
wonder would they ever get it together. And when you
take that part with the analytical I would say the
analytical miscues. Maybe that's the best way to phrase it.
Speaker 3 (01:40:03):
Very kind.
Speaker 1 (01:40:04):
Yeah, when you see, yeah, when you see some of
those flubs and things, it makes it very very challenging
to see how this team can continue to go on
on accurance setup.
Speaker 2 (01:40:15):
All right, well, I will say this in defense of
the Chargers. Think about this. Three of the four losses
were against pretty tough competition. They lost to Kansas City,
they lost to Dallas. They lost to Miami. Now they
probably shouldn't have lost to Tennessee and that was an
overtime loss twenty seven to twenty four. But even the
Miami game, the opening game of the year, it was
a thirty six to thirty four loss. So, yeah, they
lost three of those games to top notch teams, and
(01:40:37):
they really weren't blown out. I mean, the Kansas City
game was thirty one to seventeen. Other than that, Seriously,
I mean, you got to give them someone of a
pass losing to those teams because I don't think the
Chargers are in that caliber of talents.
Speaker 3 (01:40:50):
Well, but that's the thing is that coming into the year,
the expectations were high, right, Obviously, they gacked away that
game in the playoffs to your Jaguars Bucky. So there
was a bad taste in everybody's mouth, but the expectations
were sky high. Once again, you lose Mike Williams to injury.
You go through a lot of advanced stats and go
through the guy was having a great year, and once
(01:41:12):
again he goes down and there's not another option. They
drafted Johnston in the first round thinking he was going
to become an impact player. I mean, the guy's on
the side of a milk carton right now most games
and he can't get involved in He's six ' five
and he's invisible. How does that happen? I mean, it's
just unbelievable. So you know you're trying to figure out
(01:41:33):
and then you lose one of your reliable secondary guys
is Joshua Palmer and he's on IR so you're bringing
back Geyton, et cetera. I mean, because this is you're
actually maximizing time. This is the first time in a
while that you've seen Eckler, Bosa and Derwin James all
on the field together. Right, Historically you've been playing shorthanded
(01:41:54):
with those guys all shelved. Now they're back and you're
still not quite getting over now. They've got a little
thing going started with that slacking of a hapless Bear
squad a couple of weeks ago. I was live and
in person for that. The only thing that saved it
was an endless flow of medello. That's all I can say.
(01:42:15):
Mike Harmon alongside Andy Furman Bucket Year Fox Sports Radio, Hey,
you know it made the night a little better and
the company that I was with, so it's all good
by me. Coming up next, we'll turn our attention away
from the games for a minute. You know, we talked
about coaching. We brought up Belichick before I got to
asked the questions like what kind of staffing inclusions can
(01:42:38):
a guy like me be for an NFL team to
protect coaches from getting in front of a podium and
looking like an idiot. We'll talk about that next. Andy,
I think you got a whole other vocation that's ready
for us. First, we're gonna pick it over to Kevin
Wyre get an update on what's trending. Yeah, we got
some injury updates for you. Ian Rappaport out with some
updates for this Germany game Patriots and Colts. Patriots wide
(01:43:00):
receiver Pop Douglas is active as his quarterback Jack Jones.
Linebacker Juwan Bentley is out he has a hamstring issue.
Cold Twide receiver Josh Downs is still dealing with a
knee injury that he had surgery on in the spring.
He is officially active after being listed as questionable. Now.
When it comes to forty nine Ers left tackle Trent Williams,
we had some conflicting reports. Adam Schefter earlier this evening
(01:43:23):
saying that he is expected to play despite being questionable
with his ankle injury. Ian Rappaport, however, a couple hours ago,
tweeted saying that it'll actually be an uphill battle for
Williams to play against the Jaguars. He's gonna work out
before the game to see if he can go, but
it'll be a challenge, and then Adam Schefter less than
half an hour ago saying that Williams adamant about playing
(01:43:44):
and that he should be starting against the Jaguars today,
So we'll see how that ends up turning out. Ian
Rappaport with a couple other updates, as Commander's wide receiver
Curtis Samuel expected to play. He's been dealing with a
toe issue listed as questionable. Bengals wide receiver Jamar Chase
considered fifty to fifty at best to play. He is
a back injury and while he doesn't have any structural
damage in it, he's in severe pain and is unclear
(01:44:06):
how functional he'll be. They'll keep open the door open
for him until game time to see if he can go.
Vikings tight end TJ. Hockinson is questionable with a weird
rib injury. He is expected to go today. Wide receiver
kJ Osborne has cleared the concussion protocol, however, still not
certain to play. Was a significant hit he took in Minnesota.
Does want to check him today and Rappaport also saying
(01:44:30):
Ravens running back Heaton Mitchelluhart his hamstring earlier this week.
He was a full participating practice on Friday. Is expected
to play. Pro Bowl quarterback Marlin Humphries is optimistic about playing, however,
he does need to clear a pregame warm up first.
And in college football full slit of action yesterday, in
the all top four teams winning Ohio State rules against
(01:44:53):
Michigan State thirty eight to three, there are tribal number three.
Michigan goes on the road and beats number ten Penn
State twenty four to fifteen. So that'll be a pivotal
matchup potentially two top three teams in ann Arbor. A
couple of weeks from now, Georgia the defending champions. They
were in the top ten matchup with number nine Ole
Miss but it made it look like an FCS game
as Georgia fifty two to seventeen winners against the Rebels
(01:45:16):
and Florida State had to escape against Miami and interception
on the Hurricanes last drive sealing the win for the
Seminals twenty seven to twenty and in the game of
the day at the PAC twelve, number five Washington holding
on and escapes against number eighteen Utah thirty five to
twenty eight. So Washington looking to potentially jump into the
(01:45:38):
top four, depending on if they can stay undefeated the
last couple of games, as well as leapfrog the loser
of Ohio State and Michigan. Back to you guys, thanks
so much, Kevin, appreciate you. It's Fox Football Sunday Live
from the Tyraq dot Com Fox Sports Radio Studios Mike
Carmt alongside Andy Furman, Bucky Brooks, lots of games out
there today, about half the slate truly intriguing on a
(01:46:02):
whole other level. Some great matchups, some great divisional matchups,
some historical names getting together. But from the coaching angle,
and it's something that I mean, obviously, we love to
play with words, and we have fun with him, and
certainly we put our you know, respective feet in our
mouths with great regularity, predictions gone wrong, misspeaking, trying to
(01:46:24):
figure out how to be clever and turn a phrase,
and sometimes well it falls flat. It was funny. Kevin
gave us a couple of the injury updates and he said,
pop Douglas, and I'm like, oh, I got to remind
folks that's de Mario Douglas, because if he didn't get
claimed in your fantasy league, he was a guy that
you probably wanted to go find. So take a look
at his availability, as well as you know Mitchell over
(01:46:47):
there in Baltimore, two guys that were big weapons last year.
Last week. But when we look at the coaching standpoint,
you guys were talking about Robert Salah and the I
plead the fifth a little bit earlier, Josh McDaniels. We've
got so many reports that came out about how things
were handled behind the scenes, and certainly, you know, in
(01:47:09):
front of cameras. We've seen Lincoln Riley look less than
in front of cameras when responding to different parts of
this team. Now getting rid of the defensive coordinator that
was one part of the lineup that he didn't have
to deal with necessarily the same questions because at this
point expecting change, well you're not getting there. But the
(01:47:31):
king of it all has been Matt Eberfluss, who took
a minute forty five the other day to fight with
reporters about, you know, whether Justin Fields was out or
what he was doubtful And in the you know moment,
he said the quiet thing in his head out loud
when he responded to a guy who followed up by going, oh, yeah,
he's not gonna play, So wait a minute, is he
(01:47:53):
out or is he doubt And even in the post game,
you know, hey, you know, we were asking the big
questions because there were just some situational terrible football coaching. Now,
they made the right play call and it was executed well,
but didn't realize that a team was out of timeouts
(01:48:13):
and instead threw the ball on third and seven, talked
about it like, you know, there would have been a
time out if they'd run the football, and plenty of
time for Carolina to still potentially get the win. And
I'm sitting there, going, we do have people on staff
that handle this, right, Hey, coach, here's five things you're
probably gonna be asked when you step to the podium.
(01:48:34):
Can we go over these real quick? There's gotta be
someone hired to do this, Bucky. And week after week
I'm watching coaches go up there and I get it.
You're the big, swinging guy that's running around with millions
of dollars in your contract at all, but sometimes you
just look like an idiot with some of these things
you're saying. You know, sala was on a paid for
(01:48:54):
several days later radio call with Michael k and still
couldn't get out of his own way.
Speaker 4 (01:49:01):
Yeah, not the best.
Speaker 1 (01:49:02):
And it's one of the parts of the job that
you need training. You know, you need to have training
on how to deal with the media, how to give
answers that are non answers, you know, and that look
like an idiot while doing so. The fact that Robert
Salace stood in front of the press corps and talked
about pleading the fifth when discussing the quarterback. To me,
(01:49:23):
that's ridiculous. Either you give them answer, you say he's
that guy, we can continue to go with them, or
we evaluate all things. But to plead the fifth like
to throw your hands up to me was just egregious
and I just it not only impacts like how we
view Robert Solam, but how you think Zach Wilson feels
(01:49:43):
when the coach pleas the fifth on whether you should
be starting or not.
Speaker 4 (01:49:47):
It's just a.
Speaker 1 (01:49:48):
Bad look and it's one of those from a leadership standpoint,
it should never happen.
Speaker 2 (01:49:54):
You know. I sometimes think when the coaches get in
front of the media, I think they're entertainers. I really believe.
Speaker 3 (01:49:59):
I think you're and I think to a certain extent sometimes
they want to be buddy buddy with these media people.
Speaker 2 (01:50:06):
And that's not going to work because if you have
a story, you can't hide it from them, and you
should not hod it for them. And I'll give you
the example. Back in the day, I was working for
the Robbie Family. I was the PR guy for the
four Lorda Deale Strikers, but they also won the Miami Dolphins,
and I helped the Dolphins out in tr and they
had one of the greatest PR guys ever. I learned
a lot from Charlie. The late Charlie Callahan used to
work with Notre Dame and then when he left Ojo
(01:50:28):
Dame Joe Robbie was a Notre Dame guy and he
rest in peace. He brought Charlie over from Notre Dame
to be the PR guy to Dolphins. Now, look, you're
dealing with a Don Schuler at the time, so the
media was intimidated from day one from Don Shuler. And
if you came to a press conference slate, he chewed
you out in front of everybody. So there's an intimidation factor.
These guys weren't going to ask him like these Wyse
asked questions. But still in old Charlie would get a
(01:50:49):
hold of Don and say, look, they're going to ask
you this, do this, do this, and don't do this.
But Don Shuler was smart, just like Bill Belichick. It's
not going to happen to Bill Belichick. Last week there
was rumblings that if he loses today against the Indianapolis Colts,
his job may be in jeopardy. So what do you
think about that, Bill, He says, I'm preparing for the Colts.
You know, you've got to be smart. You got to
(01:51:11):
know what you're going to talk about. So I think
the PR guy his job is not just to give
stats and some of these guys just stat geeks. These
guys have to train and tell not only coaches but
players how to act after games and during news conferences
really well on the face of the team.
Speaker 3 (01:51:28):
Well, and that's the thing, Andy, right, It's it's also
a different world back in the day. You know, even
for the best teams. I mean, unless we're talking Super
Bowl or playoff runs, you know, you're dealing with mostly
the same local media. You'll have a couple of guys
and women that would have found their way into the
room to talk to you because of you know, circumstance
(01:51:49):
and advanced opponents or whatever the case may be. You know,
the team you just played. But now you start opening
it up to bloggers and and I don't say that,
you know, with any derision and or anything, but you've
just got a lot of different folks that the you know,
the angle that they're trying to get onto a game
is going to be different. You know, to your point
(01:52:10):
you use the word wise ass. Yeah, we've got a
lot of those guys that show up at different press
conferences to try you guys.
Speaker 2 (01:52:17):
They want to make their name for themselves as well.
They're gonna ask this supid questions. Hey, you know, hey, coach,
maybe you missed that quote because you were out too
late last night. Babe, you know what I mean. They're
gonna do that so they could get some attention.
Speaker 3 (01:52:28):
Are you referring to that ring video that started circulating
that mayor Mat Belichick? I take the fifth nicely, Don
Robert Salah, I appreciate you and the cut of your jib.
That's Andy Ferrin, give us a little That was good.
I like that, Andy Furman. Bucky Brooks out by carbon
(01:52:49):
with you here Fox Football Sunday, Fox Sports Radio. Coming
up next, we're gonna pick our games, uh of the
week that we're gonna find ourselves in rapt attention. And no,
Bucky can't talk about the one that he's working because
he will be in front of a TV later on
this afternoon or evening, maybe even subjecting himself to the Jets.
We'll talk about that coming up next. As we continue
on Fox Football Sunday, Hey, welcome back in We're live
(01:53:12):
from the tire Ac dot Com, Fox Sports Radio Studios.
Mike Harmon, Andy Ferman, Bucky Brooks with you here a
full slate of NFL action later on today. Remember your Chiefs, Dolphins, Eagles,
and Rams need to leave your fantasy lineups. Yes, there
are several players on the Rams that need to vacate
active slots on your roster. And in forty five minutes
(01:53:35):
we've got Colts and Patriots. Look, man, I celebrate all
to seventy two and this might be number two seventy
of them, but I'll be there and I'll be ready
to watch as Jonathan Taylor and Ramandre Stevenson try to
carry my fantasy teams to victories. Fellas some other great
games on the slate. We've talked San Francisco, Jacksonville, we
(01:53:57):
talked Detroit and the Chargers. That's in intriguing. Andy. Obviously,
you've got Houston and the wonder Kin coming to town
there against the Bengals that are a team that's on
the come. And when we talk metal stands in the AFC,
I dare say the recent streak you got to be
looking at the Bengals, and all of a sudden, the
tone and tenor of that city must have really changed.
Speaker 2 (01:54:20):
You know, to me, if I'm Joe Burrow, you know
I don't even don't want to go to my house.
I mean, this guy is an EBB and flow. I
mean they if he's hurt, people are morning their morning
in the city. I mean now he's back, so he's
back full strength and they won four straight. You don't
want to build a statue for this guy, a monument
(01:54:40):
in front of the stadium. I mean, the people here
are salivating over every movie he makes. And last week
he came to the game where Diamond studded headphones. I mean,
you know what I saw that on TV watching the
game on TV, Diamond studied headphones walking into the locker room.
Price of the game. You know, my first thought was,
this guy makes too much money?
Speaker 3 (01:55:00):
What to do with money?
Speaker 2 (01:55:01):
Really? I mean, I mean, do you have to rub
it in? And you know, look, I'm not I'm not
opposed to guys make a big money. I get it.
You're entertainer. It's part of the TV package. You get money,
you get to cut of the pie. But here's the deal.
You got people that are giving their their life blood,
Guys that are driving trucks and making minimum wage to
(01:55:22):
watch you play, putting the tickets on their credit card.
Maybe that's the one thing they get for Christmas and
have to pay it off over time. To watch you play.
You'll going to a game with diamonds started headphones. Shame
on you. You want them, that's fine, wear them in your
house for the privacy of your home. Don't, don't, don't
broadcast it. I just was upset with that, a little.
Speaker 3 (01:55:42):
Bit curious if there was real real Blako there, Bucky,
or where was it imitation?
Speaker 1 (01:55:49):
I'm sure it was imitation.
Speaker 4 (01:55:50):
I'm sure you didn't have diamonds all throughout the the hearphone.
Speaker 2 (01:55:53):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (01:55:53):
The kids. Kids like the kids. The kids like to
blinky look like that's part of the thing. You have
to also understand, Like Andy, the National Ball they're going
all the way back to the NFL network. They made
a big deal to make the NFL like the NBA.
So the NBA was on the front end of doing
what we call the walk. I think like when you're
in local TV they call it the purf walk.
Speaker 4 (01:56:16):
Right when they come and they handcuffed.
Speaker 1 (01:56:18):
So the walk coming in, So what it is is
coming in from the player's parking lot, through the tunnel
going into the locker room. They like to visually catch
that shot, right, And so because of that, more players
started putting an emphasis in terms of how they dress
and what they look like. It's almost become rocked the runway,
(01:56:39):
you know, And so you're getting all of that because
it's show and tell. And as these players begin to
take I don't know, a bigger part of the culture
and bringing into the locker room, they want to be
a part of that. We have guys that see themselves
as fashionistas, their trendsetters and that stuff. So you can
get all that andy. That's just kind of a part
of the deal. You see them where I mean even
(01:57:01):
the Progressive commercial where you saw Stefan Diggs and Von
Miller wearing the same outfit. It's just kind of a
part of the new culture of the NFL. There is
how you look.
Speaker 2 (01:57:10):
Until the end, you would admit that on the walk
most of the time, ninety percent of the time they're
going to show a running back, a receiver, or a quarterback.
You're not gonna see Aiden Hutchinson wearing diamonds stuttered headphones.
Speaker 3 (01:57:23):
If he was wearing him, they would made Hutchett mean,
he's a star, right and now.
Speaker 1 (01:57:28):
Yeah, they're showing the stars. Yeah, they showed Miles Garrett
and all this stuff in this Halloween outfits. It depends
on who the stars are in your local market. Joe Shisty,
Joe Burrow, he is going to be shown all the
time because he is the star, the unequivocal star in
that in that market.
Speaker 3 (01:57:44):
And let's face it, they all have stolen from forty
years ago when you heard the beginning of poping circumstance
and you jump to your feet because you knew the
macho man was in town. Oh yeah, freak out.
Speaker 2 (01:57:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:57:57):

I want to go to one last game here for you,
Fellas the Monday Nighter, the Buffalo Bills the other Josh Allen.
Now I feel like I'm doing commercials. Remember the the
(01:58:19):
other White Meat when we were.
Speaker 1 (01:58:23):
Years ago?
Speaker 3 (01:58:24):
Yeah, the Port Council, maybe straight out of Iowa, and
we look at the Bills and a team that's an enigma, right.
You got Khalil Shakir stepping up alongside Digs. Digs at
time still looks dissatisfied. The run game. We talked about
it last week. You know, James Cook coming into the
game was still a top ten rusher in the NFL,
(01:58:46):
which shows you where running the football has been because
a lot of folks raising their hand going where is he?
Why is it he? And all that other stuff, and
Josh Allen playing hero ball. On the other side, it
seems like Sean Payton and Russell Wilson have at least
figured out a way to coexist in Denver BUNKI.
Speaker 1 (01:59:03):
Yeah, they have found a way to do it in
winning does all that stuff when it comes to being
able to get a dub. Yeah, So now the feelings
are flowing. Well, they had a couple wins under their belt.
They're beginning to find maybe a level of mutual respect
when it comes to each other's game and expertise in
those things. And we'll see how it goes. Because you know,
(01:59:25):
it's conditional. The love between Sean Payton and Russell Wilson
is great right now because they're winning. If he goes sideways,
it won't be as great because the bottom line is
Sean Payton wants to win.
Speaker 4 (01:59:36):
He wants to win at a high level.
Speaker 1 (01:59:37):
He is closely scrutinizing Russell Wilson to see if he's
a pro or a con. Is he going to help us?
Is he going to hurt us? And so it remains
a work in progress.
Speaker 2 (01:59:48):
Yeah, And the only way Devers going to win this
game is they gotta win one game. They gotta win
the time of possession game. That's what they gotta do.
Keep the Thills off the field. I know what sounds
easier said than done. How are you going to try
to do? That? Gives the vaulted Ifante Williams put it
in his gut and hopefully they could just move the
change and just keep that clock running. Gotta keep Josh
Allen and those guys off the field. But as long
as Buffalo plays a balanced offense, a little more of
(02:00:10):
a run game, They're gonna be hard to beat.
Speaker 3 (02:00:13):
Boy, this hour goes so fast. We covered and turned
over so many stones and now I'm gonna start playing
WWE videos in the background while we're here, because the
great entrances, you know, I mean, that's what it's all about.
You always need to make a big entrance and big exits.
As we close out this hour, Andy, thanks so much,
Thank you, appreciate you. Bucky and I are going to
(02:00:33):
continue here for another hour Fox Football Sunday. Here, Fox
Sports Radio, Week ten of your NFL. Really glad they
didn't accidentally turn my microphone on. Having those moments where
you're trying to stretch the vocal cords. Get yourself right
for another hour of scintillating radio while belting out Somebody
to Love in the studio, Bucky Brooks with me here
(02:00:55):
Mike Harmon another hour Fox Football Sunday, jacked up because
we're a half hour away from live football, the final
of the International Series. Bucky, you're a practice veteran of
the International Series. What's been the highlights through the years
of broadcasting those games? Did you find a place that
became a go to standard for food or beverage or
(02:01:19):
nocturnal activities?
Speaker 1 (02:01:21):
I wish I could say that I did find something
like that, but no, I think the best part of
it is just seeing the.
Speaker 4 (02:01:29):
It's such a unique environment Harmon.
Speaker 1 (02:01:31):
So when you go to Soldier Field, right, if you
can watch a Bears Packers game, normally the people can
be decked out of either Bears gear or Packers gear.
The International games, it's all comers, right, So the Jags
are taking on the Buffalo Bills, but you see people
with Giants jerseys, Dolphins jerseys, Rams jerseys in the stands.
It is one of the oddest things. I think the
(02:01:52):
best way to compare it is to a Pro Bowl
or a Super Bowl environment. Meaning some of the people
that grabbed take us to the super Bowl, they grab
them because they don't before they know whose team is
going to be in it, and so now they're there,
and so they're there and they show up and their
team's jersey, which is so random. I don't know why
(02:02:13):
anyone would do that. It's almost like when when people
go to like Chicago Bulls games, but they would show
up in a PACER's jersey, Like it doesn't make sense, Like,
I know, you're going to a basketball game, you want
to be an ACJC, Yeah, you just don't take whatever
jersey you have in the drawer and put it on.
Speaker 4 (02:02:28):
But it's very similar to that.
Speaker 1 (02:02:29):
It's just just a different take on how to get
it done. That's what I would say.
Speaker 3 (02:02:33):
There you go. I think every week going forward, we'll
have BUCkies etiquette for sporting abouts and your intend No,
I look, I appreciate this.
Speaker 1 (02:02:42):
We're something that's more appropriate. Appropriate.
Speaker 3 (02:02:46):
We want to go. We're going to be super like
we're back in the use of the black socks of
nineteen nineteen.
Speaker 2 (02:02:53):
No.
Speaker 4 (02:02:54):
I mean, but people may not notice.
Speaker 1 (02:02:55):
But you know at the at the pro Shop, at
the team store, they have stuff that is just nerik
NFL gear that you can wear. You can wear super
Bowl or International Series or something like that. You don't
have to show up in your favorite team.
Speaker 3 (02:03:08):
Wait wait, wait, wait, you want everybody running around with
that NFL hat like Rob Low, like you're a referee.
I actually have a referees hat, if you can believe that.
At some point Smith gifted it to me, and every
once in a while I wear it just to vex people.
Speaker 1 (02:03:25):
I wonder if you have one of the referees hats
with the camera on it. I wish I had to
the referee cam as they trying to make it a
big deal.
Speaker 3 (02:03:35):
Well let's start there with referees. We can do more
on the celebration of the game, because seeing more of
that that, you know, even attending the Chargers Bears game
a couple of weeks ago, Bucky, far more people than
I remember wearing just jerseys of any team, and we
are seeing I think, and I think the data would
bear this out a lot more folks finding vacation destinations
(02:03:58):
internationally come into see a game, even if they don't
care about the Bears in Charges, like, all right, I
went to Los Angeles, there's a game in town, right,
and planning there and then just celebrating whatever team they've adopted,
or maybe they're an expat that comes in for a
game or whatever the case is.
Speaker 4 (02:04:13):
Yeah, just taking one in.
Speaker 1 (02:04:15):
Let's go.
Speaker 3 (02:04:15):
I mean, I'm celebrated as you will.
Speaker 4 (02:04:17):
Yeah, celebrated as you wis.
Speaker 3 (02:04:19):
Hey man, somebody got these sixty six percent in their
pocket for the purchase of that jersey. Because that's one
of the things we really learned in this whole Travis
Kelcey Taylor Swift thing is I think everybody now knows
that the player's taking home about two thirds of that money,
So good for him. Lucrative opportunity, no question, But you
(02:04:39):
mentioned referees. I think that's one of the great jumping
off points because we had Micah Parsons popping off, and
we've seen this quite a bit. Last week, you and
I talked extensively about the fine system, so many more
running backs getting hit, lowering their heads into the line
of scrimmage. Josh Jacobs being vocal because he's what twenty
one thousand dollar lighter in the wallet today. But Micah
(02:05:02):
Parson's making the case for more referees because of obvious
holding and egregious holding penalties that are missed, and some
of it I think goes back to the age old
argument that drifts back into what's going on with the
University of Michigan if I can bring them in tangentially
of the all right, everybody's trying to get an edge
(02:05:23):
with signals and play calling and finding their edge, and
that's there's nothing new there. Likewise, when we talk about,
you know, the holding penalties, it's always been the Well,
technically you could probably call one on every play. It's
just a matter of did it affect it materially and
something that you know is obvious and needs the flag
(02:05:46):
because how many times we see flags picked up anymore?
Speaker 1 (02:05:50):
Oh yeah, I mean we do see it a lot
more than than we've seen it in the past.
Speaker 4 (02:05:55):
Here's my thing. When it comes to.
Speaker 1 (02:05:59):
The fine system in the structure and Michael Parson's and
Josh Jacobs and some of those guys, I do believe
the fine structure is ridiculous, like the fact that the
fines are so big, twenty one thousand dollars for like
some of the violations.
Speaker 4 (02:06:13):
I mean, that is a lot of.
Speaker 3 (02:06:16):
Look at Jalen war lost two game checks basically.
Speaker 1 (02:06:19):
I mean, I understand that you want punitive stuff. But man,
I know people won't believe this. For people that make me,
I still think five thousand dollars is a lot of money,
you know what I'm saying. I think thousand a lot
of money loose in a check. I mean, I don't
care how much money you make, Like, that's still a
significant amount of cash. I don't understand why it has
to be the number that is escalated to like to me,
(02:06:43):
that is bananas.
Speaker 3 (02:06:45):
Well yeah, I mean, as we've watched it, and I
get it if you're ratcheting it up based on you know,
frequency of offenses and safety is always what we were
proclaiming it to be. But man, we losing twenty grand
here Warren lost I think forty eight thousand twice like
(02:07:05):
in you know, either back to back weeks or there
may have been one in between, but it's just been
you know, a litany of offenses. And last week there
were thirty one guys going back to week eight. I
didn't see the final number coming out of week nine,
but the Jacob's one got some.
Speaker 1 (02:07:23):
So on for sure. Yeah. So here's the thing about
that part of it, right, And I understand, like we're
in this this to them where we want health and
safety and all those things, right, and I completely am
for all of that, but there's some things you can't
legislate out the game. So when a running back has
the ball and you have people that are coming to
(02:07:45):
take your head off harm and the natural thing and
most instances is to duck, right. It's almost like if
you're just walking through a crowd and you see a
random haymaker coming, Oh, let me duck my head down
to see if I can miss the blow. It can
be a glancing blow. But that's what some of these
things are. It's not like Josh Jakes is trying to say, hey,
(02:08:07):
you know what I want to do I want to
take my head and I want to put it right
through the chest of the definitive. I want to expose
my neck and everything to that. Some of that is
a natural human reaction to I'm about to get hit,
and my natural reaction is to duck down and tighten
up and make myself kind of turtle up as I'm
getting ready to absorb this content.
Speaker 3 (02:08:28):
Well, you know what, I love it. I'll always celebrate
the career of Walter Payton, but I mean they used
to do literal side by sides of the way his
running style was engaging in contact against you know, here's
a couple of deer fighting in a meadow right of Hey,
I'm going to lower my head and I'm getting after it.
I mean, he delivered and it was pretty straightforward. This
(02:08:50):
is what I'm going to do. You're going to absorb
the punishment for me. And I've got a helmet too,
so I'm gonna use it. But certainly now, you know,
you're just trying to get low like it Like I'm
just trying, like you said, to turtle up a bit.
And if the guy comes down to my level and
now it's a you know, by my head, it catches you.
And I'm not saying this is the same case with
all of these guys, but you know, it gets difficult. Michaeh.
(02:09:13):
Parsons point is a whole other thing, talking about, Hey,
I'm being held and you know so my numbers are
down and I'll be not getting free reign. I don't
know that more officials is gonna do it. If anything,
it's going to create more confusion. How many conferences do
we see in an average game, and it gets spotlighted
at these national you know, prime time games, these single
game windows where they're standing around having a three minute conference.
(02:09:37):
They're like, ah, there's no flag on the play, Like,
oh you saw something. How did that guy from across
the field or a guy forty yards away convince you
to pick it up? Like? What are we doing? I
don't think Michael Parsons gets the results he wants if
there's more guys on the field.
Speaker 1 (02:09:53):
I had to break it to Mike and Mike, I mean,
I know this, but it's a passing league, it's an
offensive league. You know what the league is not going
to do. They're not going to make it where the
defense has bigger advantages. You're already hearing the conversation about
points being down, Micah, they are definitely not going to say, hey,
you know what we want.
Speaker 4 (02:10:11):
We want you to.
Speaker 1 (02:10:13):
Have free reign and a free run to the quarterback
to make sure that the quarterback is pulling and we
don't get the scoring. Yeah, we will see fewer holding
penalties going forward, more so than less than more.
Speaker 3 (02:10:26):
No, I think you're one hundred percent day out. Yeah,
I mean with the number of times and we talked
about it our last hour with Andy, you know, talking
about the number of games where you look at the
over under totals that we're at forty or less, and
a lot of them were starting to pressure down into
Iowa territory. By the way, that game's still finished under
you can believe it. Twenty seven and a half. They
(02:10:47):
get a shutout win over Rutgers twenty two. Nothing. Boy,
that's like watching paint dry. That game against Northwestern, now,
I'm even angrier that Northwestern didn't pull that one out
because after you yesterday's win, they would have been they
would be Bowl eligible. It's still two more games to
get there. What a crazy season that has been, no question.
Speaker 1 (02:11:06):
About Oh well, let's talk about that quite an accomplishation
for the for the wildcast, considering all the other stuff, like, yeah,
I mean that's yeah, who would have thought that they
would return around because thought they were in a full
long tail spin after losing Pat Fitzgerald. And you know
what's so crazy about this season? That season that that
controversy seems like.
Speaker 3 (02:11:28):
Years white years ago. Well with all the other stuff
in the big ten, right, I mean.
Speaker 1 (02:11:32):
Just that, yeah, that mill Tucker stuff. Yeah, you now
have Michigan and maybe there'll be one other thing before
they close out the year.
Speaker 3 (02:11:44):
But unbelieva man that Oh my god. Yeah, the conferences,
uh certainly had one after another. But yeah, the Fitzgerald thing,
he's filed the lawsuit. We'll see where that goes. You know,
I I still stand by what I said day one.
How all the assistants were able to survive when he
got bounced still made no sense to me. And the
(02:12:05):
level of statements and everything the school made again, we're
still nonsensical and gutless to my thinking. If you did
an investigation and you came up with an agreement just
because a couple of people leaked what you already knew,
and the court of public opinion got after you, I
mean you changed your mind.
Speaker 4 (02:12:27):
Yeah, your word is your bond.
Speaker 1 (02:12:29):
So if you say, hey, this is what we're doing,
this is the punishment, then then that's what it should be.
You can't then he let me put it out there
for public consumption, like, ah, they didn't hit right, we're changing.
There's a lot of that though.
Speaker 3 (02:12:42):
But look a look at this Michigan thing though, Bucky right,
I mean Veterans Day, so you know, everything's closed so
in terms of you know, your courts and whatever else.
And I know it passed through some folks that are
Michigan alums. So folks were losing their minds when we're
talking about judges that would have to hear this stuff.
(02:13:02):
But you come down with this end of season three
game suspension while they're on a plane to go play
another top ten team in conference. And again for the
Big Ten commissioner new on the job, seemed like it
was the reaction to just public opinion of you have
to do something versus hey, let's make sure we get
(02:13:24):
this right.
Speaker 1 (02:13:26):
Yeah. Yeah, I mean I do feel like there's that,
and you know, unfortunately we play a part of it
in the media like it's to rush the judgment like, oh,
they got to throw the book at him, this and that,
and I don't know, man, like if you do it,
it comes up in the middle of the thing. I
don't know how it's gonna impact this year's team. But
(02:13:46):
to me, they should have like played it out, make
all the announcements in those things and with Harbor, like
he just kind of has to hang. I won't say
in purgatory, but it just has to be a cloud over.
But man, if you're going to do the grand standing
where you pull them off the plane and a man
you land, you can't. You're suspended in that. To me,
it was just a lot and going into it, I
(02:14:08):
was excited to see their team playing. You talked about
a team that is super talent. I'll say this like
design stealing, like if they went through all the measures
or whatever, like, yeah, that's over the top and there
should be a level of punishment. But make no mistake
about it. The reason why all those teams in the
big team were getting what by Michigan had little to
do with the signs stealing had more to do with
the team that has really come of age on the Harbor,
a different team. And I will say this, I don't
(02:14:31):
go to many college games anymore, but boy, if I
could get a ticket to that Michigan Ohio State and sure.
The last time I went Harmon was the time they
had to fight.
Speaker 4 (02:14:43):
It was in the Big House and.
Speaker 1 (02:14:44):
They had to fight, and the tumnel they had to
fight in pregame in the pre games. I can't remember
the Yeah, the big offensive tackle for Michigan's for Ohio
State got got thrown out. But man, it was a
doozy And look, I come from North Caroline of Dukee.
It's a rivalry, but it's like a friendly rivalry. Michigan
Ohio State. They really don't like each other. The people
(02:15:05):
really don't like each other like they really like. It
is really personal beyond belief. I was astonished at how
it was, but I did love it.
Speaker 3 (02:15:13):
Ann Arbor, Michigan with all those seats right we are
talking about the big House. Get in right now. From
a quick glance, five hundred twenty three dollars plus fees.
Speaker 1 (02:15:26):
Oh man, I'm probably by the flagpole.
Speaker 4 (02:15:28):
I'm probably up.
Speaker 3 (02:15:29):
It's five section five twenty three. That's the best ticket,
so section thirty eight, Row ninety two, and it's labeled
as a great deal. That is your get in for
man ticket to that game.
Speaker 1 (02:15:47):
And my look, my heart is already pound and just
thinking about when you said like section five something, I
was like that, that means that means five levels up.
Speaker 3 (02:15:56):
That means you get a lot of the marketing.
Speaker 1 (02:15:58):
Oh man, Philly Pump.
Speaker 3 (02:16:00):
Hey man, you did not skip leg day out of
college football day. Let me tell you what it's like,
going and sitting the way they used to have what
is now guaranteed rate field configured before they retrofitted it
and stuff going up into the upper deck. Tell you what, man,
you were at a steep angle. I watched many many
(02:16:22):
a man or a woman not really great with their
balance to where like if this guy falls, we're all
done and you're going over the rail. That's where we're at.
I'd love to see the constructor. I can't wait to
see the video because I'm sure they will go find
someone in one of those last rows on game day
there to show you the vantage point. But yeah, I'm
(02:16:44):
with you in terms of games, I would pay a
substantial amount of money to see if I were in town.
Because we start adding flights and stuff, Bucky, that gets
really prohibitively expensive.
Speaker 1 (02:16:56):
Oh, yeah, I mean it's super pricey, but that one
I may come out of the pocket to see that,
because just your reaction, whether or not Harbaugh is in
the building, just what Ryan Day is going to catch,
particularly if and I don't know if he thought about this,
you talk about he's already maybe on a semi warm season, it's.
Speaker 3 (02:17:18):
At least little warm because of the refugation of being
saw Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:17:23):
Can you imagine if they lose to a harbor leous
Michigan team.
Speaker 3 (02:17:31):
Oh no, chaos, Chaos ensues, There's no question about it.
Speaker 1 (02:17:34):
Like theater, he might get met in the tunnel. Like
everyone talks about Lane Kiff and getting fired on the tarmac,
that might be a tunnel. A tunnel dismissal.
Speaker 4 (02:17:44):
Hey man, you know what it's.
Speaker 1 (02:17:46):
Almost like when you know, when they take the picture
out and the manager comes to the mound, takes the ball,
pass him on the back. I can just see you
lose the ad coming down, patting him on the bat,
taking the play card. Hey man, it was a nice run,
but we'll see you.
Speaker 3 (02:18:01):
You had a good run last thing, because I heard
you mention it with Andy, because we got to get
to a break here. I love the emotion after the game,
and everybody's like Hartball's just in a hotel. Actually he
was back watching the Michigan hockey team is how he
spent his Saturday night. So you got that going for you.
But the fact that they just played bully ball with
(02:18:21):
Penn State and just said stop us with Con Edwards
and just said we're just gonna beat you down.
Speaker 1 (02:18:29):
I one.
Speaker 4 (02:18:30):
I loved it.
Speaker 1 (02:18:31):
I love like the way Harball builds this team, and
I love like the throwback nature of the Wolf Rings.
It almost was as if both sham Beckler's ghost came
down to the sideline said Jim.
Speaker 4 (02:18:43):
I got this one.
Speaker 3 (02:18:44):
We just gonna run.
Speaker 1 (02:18:46):
We're just gonna run it all the way out. They
ran thirty two, I mean thirty two straight running plays
in the second half and there's nothing more to moralized.
And then someone just peppering you with the jab and
the body blows over and over and over again, and
even the oh they have a Heisman candidate and JJ McCarthy, Nah,
we're just gonna run this out because that's what we do.
I loved it.
Speaker 3 (02:19:06):
Oh, I thought it was. It was everything that you
would want to see, right. I'm just this is what
we're doing and we're just gonna overpower you. I mean,
we've had many had the great pleasure of working with
many x NFL guys, linemen especially. It's like when that
run game's going, Yeah, there's no finer feeling than you know,
taking a man's will. He's Bucky Brooks on by Carbon here,
(02:19:28):
Fox Sports Radios, Fox Football Sunday. As we continue here,
a couple of games to get to on the slate.
One that in the AFC North that has a lot
of interest and we'll see if someone can rise to
the challenge with against an MVP candidate. That's next on Fox.
Welcome back in Fox Sports or radios, Fox Football Sunday.
(02:19:48):
Mike Carmen, Bucky Brooks with you here live from the
ti rack dot Com studios. Kickoff in just a couple
of minutes, Folks, get those last second fantasy moves in.
If you have any Colts or Patriots you want to play,
probably not a lot of guys going for you on
the Patriots, but perhaps you know you've got to pick them.
Contests that you participate in or things of that nature.
(02:20:12):
And as I say that, the screens are graded out,
so if you missed out we've got national anthems. We've
got the pomp and pageantry and circumstance of the final
international game of the year underway. Brought to you by
Progressive Insurance. Progressive makes bundling easy and affordable. Get a
multi policy discount by combining your motorcycle, RV, boat, ATV
and more all your protection to one place. Bundlin, sayth
(02:20:34):
Progressive dot Com. Cleveland and Baltimore one of the games
on the board here for later on, Bucky and for me,
one of the more interesting games of the week. The
Cleveland defense. Last week, you know, fantasy owners went to
their lineup seeing how many points the Ravens put up
and they said, wait, Lamar only did what And now
(02:20:57):
you've got a chance for the Baltimore more offense. Odell
Beckham Junior getting into the mix and starting to see
more guys rise up alongside Mark Andrews against the Cleveland
defense and Deshaun Watson. While he hasn't been great, they're
playing winning football with him on the field.
Speaker 1 (02:21:16):
They are playing winning football within him on the field.
And it's a big thing that he hasn't played there
like a top five player, but he's been good enough
for them to win games. And first game back, first
full game back, he has been able to make some
plays and Kevin Stefanski has kind of put to the
offense in a situation where they able to win games.
The big thing that you want to see from Cleveland
(02:21:37):
can they just be balanced enough Menie, balance enough on
offense to complement a defense. This lights out because the
defense is good enough to get them into the tournament,
but the offense will determine how far they can go
in the tournament.
Speaker 3 (02:21:48):
Yeah, looking at the receiving cord, there obviously a lot
of eyes on Amari Cooper, but trying to round out
that compliment of players as well, we've seen Ford pick
up pretty nicely. For Chubb went healthy. That's one of
the games of the week obviously. Baltimore gust the Boss
Edwards and Keaton Mitchell, who was the waver Waiver wire
(02:22:12):
Darling coming off of his performance last week. It looks
like he's gonna be able to go, so we will
get the dual headed monster there for Cleveland. A little
bit later. One of the more interesting stories of the
week is the uh the many and varied journeys of
Josh Dobbs doing interviews remember a couple of weeks ago
we joked about the fact that he couldn't get a
(02:22:33):
cardinal's jersey with his name on the back. Well, they
remedied that. Now he went on the assault and just
say on the offensive said yeah, I was told I
wasn't getting dealt. So Jonathan Gannon in company, you lied.
Now we predicted it, going back to last week doing
the I Watch a Flex podcast and reading the tea
(02:22:53):
leaves went on Monday, Gannon had said, well, you know what,
I watched the tape and yeah, he's third, Like, okay,
he's gonna get dealt. And fortunately we also predicted he
was gonna go to my Minnesota, that that was the
best fit. And he goes and he has that kind
of game. We see the footage of him practicing his
cadence on the sideline as he goes in. Obviously the
(02:23:15):
rookie left early with an injury. But I mean, this
is the stuff of Disney movies kind of things, of
the twelve traveled quarterback with the engineering background and all
of that. And now he's a guy that could propel
Minnesota perhaps into a playoff birth they would be in
if the you know, season stopped today, and you've got
(02:23:37):
a team in New Orleans that now have another wide
receiver in trouble with the law.
Speaker 1 (02:23:43):
Yeah, it's it's interesting because with Josh Dobbs and the
situation Jonathan Gannon as he referred to him as jg uh,
the one thing you can't do as a head coach.
Speaker 4 (02:23:55):
You can't lie to players.
Speaker 1 (02:23:56):
Players just want the truth, like, regardless of whether they
like it or not. You just got to shoot it
to him straight. If he was on the trade block,
if you didn't want to play him because he was
going to be traded, just tell the player that and
you wouldn't have what we're getting now.
Speaker 4 (02:24:07):
Like just the.
Speaker 1 (02:24:09):
Spewing of hatred and Jonathan Gannon's direction because it won't
hurt Jonathan Gallant Gannon with his relationship with Josh Dobbs
because he may never see.
Speaker 4 (02:24:17):
Him again, but it could hurt him with others in that.
Speaker 1 (02:24:20):
Locker room who was like, man, his credibility, this dude
to just say whatever, we won't back it up. So
he has to be careful with that part of it.
For Dobbs, I think it's amazing remarkable that he could
go and do what he was able to do without practicing.
You know, I'll never understand it. And Mike, I think
we've had these conversations. I never understand why the backup
quarterback doesn't get significant reps yes and practice. I mean,
(02:24:42):
it just seems like we're at a time where this
year midway point, I think anywhere from forty six to
forty eight different starting quarterbacks have been in the mix.
Speaker 3 (02:24:51):
Yeah, we're our tenth roue he's starting today.
Speaker 1 (02:24:54):
It seems like if you have to, you might as
well know that the second one is going to pl
for you or sometime, so you probably should get them ready.
But for him to do it without any practice reps,
not understanding the play calls or anything, and just I
don't know, just spitting it out and then having the
receivers tell him it does kind of remind me of
(02:25:16):
a beautiful mind where he's taken all of his engineering
stuff and aerial space technology and he has these this, this, this, this,
you know, these look through blackboards like in his mind
over top of the offensive huddle, and he's trying to
put the x's and o's and all that together while
every receiver is doing it. And I know Kevin O'Connell
(02:25:37):
helped him because they went tempo so he could stay
in his and his headset. But to take what someone
is verbally telling you and to visualize it in real time,
that's a that's remarkable special given credit.
Speaker 4 (02:25:51):
Yeah, yeah, that's hard.
Speaker 3 (02:25:53):
When you haven't taken reps and you don't even know
these guys' names. As he talked about, he goes, yeah,
that's my job for the next week is don't learn
their names. We're looking at Osborne. We'll have a game
time decision on him coming out of concussion protocol. Hockinson
banged up as well for the Vikings, But a big
game for both those squads because New Orleans looks like
(02:26:14):
they're starting to put some stuff together with Alvin Kamara
becoming a bigger and bigger percentage of what they're doing
week in week out. So that's one of the games
to watch for later on. I want to circle back
to Arizona in just a second, because well, some curiosity
is in the wake of trading Josh Dobbs in terms
of directionality for that squad. But first let's pause and
(02:26:37):
let's send things over to our guy Isaiic Lowing Crown
to get an update of what's going on. I low, buddy,
what's happening?
Speaker 8 (02:26:44):
What's happening? So glad to be talking about live football
fellas Frankfurt, Germany. The Indianapolis Colts at four and five
against the New England Patriots at two and seven, first
possession of the game going on right now and the
Patriots facing a third down and seven from their twenty
three yard line at Frankfurt, Germany almost did not recognize
(02:27:05):
New England head coach Bill Belichick with his shirt on.
Allegedly anyway, allegedly too soon anyway. College football, Yahoo Sports
reports that Texas A and M officials are expected to
inform head coach Jimbo Fisher this morning that they are
firing him. Fisher's bayot expected to be in the range
of seventy five million dollars.
Speaker 3 (02:27:28):
How is your day?
Speaker 2 (02:27:30):
You know what I mean?
Speaker 3 (02:27:32):
It's the class half emptier? Is it half full of
your Are you kicking overflowing man?
Speaker 2 (02:27:37):
Anyway?
Speaker 3 (02:27:38):
What I think I mean? Folks thought what they were
gonna think, right, Bucky.
Speaker 2 (02:27:43):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (02:27:44):
In a related story, I will be sending my application
in to succeed Jimbo Fisher, as will all of us
as Texas A and M and coach Fisher in his
sixth season at Texas A and M forty five and
twenty five overall record, including six and four this year.
On the field, on Saturday night, sixth ranked Oregon over
USC thirty six to twenty seven. Bo Nicks through for
four twelve with four touchdown passes. Number nineteen LSU of
(02:28:07):
fifty two to thirty five win over Florida. LSU quarterback
Jayden Daniels accounted for six hundred and six total yards
and five total touchdowns. Finally, in the NBA Philadelphia seventy
six Ers, guard Kelly Ubrey was struck by a vehicle
while he was crossing a street on Saturday night in Philadelphia.
He was treated at a hospital and subsequently released. ESPN
(02:28:30):
reports Ubra is expected to miss significant time due to
the injuries he sustained, but they are not considered season ending.
Speaker 3 (02:28:37):
Fellas. Back to you, thanks so much. Iilo at Isaac
Low and Crow where you find him. He'll be part
of the coverage later on today. Chargers Detroit Lions one
of the great games and if it goes south, Ilo
handles the postgame call in show here locally, Bucky, you
want some fireworks, You'll be able to find that on
the iHeartRadio app. Just look for the Chargers channel and
(02:28:59):
you'll be able to hear all that as well as
ninety eight seven here locally for those up in early
with us here in Los Angeles.
Speaker 1 (02:29:08):
Oh, I've bet there are a lot of nice comments
on Brandon Staley and some of those coaching decisions. I
might have to tune in check that out.
Speaker 3 (02:29:14):
But the other thing is, you know what you're always
gonna get from Isaac. He's going to give you some
of the best Twitter handles and Twitter responses you're ever
gonna get.
Speaker 6 (02:29:22):
Right.
Speaker 3 (02:29:22):
I love this. This is a specialty.
Speaker 2 (02:29:24):
This is a true story.
Speaker 8 (02:29:26):
Came across during one of our shows a comment from
a tweeter whose actual Twitter handle was and I quote,
I'll see Brandon stay in hell there you go.
Speaker 3 (02:29:36):
You know that might be one of my burner accounts
because that is one of my great phrase olidies.
Speaker 8 (02:29:40):
Some of the fans out there are a little extreme,
but we we take all comers.
Speaker 7 (02:29:44):
You got it.
Speaker 4 (02:29:45):
Wow?
Speaker 1 (02:29:47):
Yeah, a lot of pass not the Charges fan base,
a lot of as well.
Speaker 3 (02:29:51):
But it's like me and my White Sox fandom. You know,
there's not a lot of us, but we're pretty loud, right,
because Thursday was a weird day, right. I saw the
celebration of Jason Bennetti and I wish him, well, I
want someone who's gonna talk to me like I have
three brain cells. In other words, uh, you know, you know,
(02:30:12):
I I know what I'm watching on the field. Don't
lie to me. And then the Bears Panthers was I
was on air for that, so that was kind of
an interesting experiment. Mike Harmon and Bucky Brooks with you
here live Fromthtirac dot Com Fox Sports Radio Studios in Arizona.
What are they doing, Bucky? You bring back Kyler Murray?
(02:30:32):
Is it just you need to see him work with
Jonathan Gannon for half a season so you have an
idea of what you want to do long term? Because
I thought when they were talking about maybe getting him
back into the mix that it was more a concept of,
all right, maybe he's trade bait ahead of the trade deadline.
He's healthy. Look, he's ready to go, and the cost
(02:30:54):
could be yours the price. If the price is right, right,
he could he could be on your squad. But now
you're also activating James Connor. Don't you want the number
one or number two pick.
Speaker 1 (02:31:06):
I mean, I don't know, Like I can't really figure
it out. But maybe they're always competing. Maybe they're looking
and looking at the Texans and saying, hey, the Texans
have found a way to compete and all these other things.
I don't know. I who knows. I can't really understand
what they were doing because when they decided to sit down,
Josh stops, who.
Speaker 4 (02:31:26):
I thought was playing fairly well for you.
Speaker 1 (02:31:29):
Yeah, and and and and put Clayton tune in his face,
tone a in his face. I don't know. I just
felt like, you're surrendering, waving the white flag. So now
you're back, and you're bringing Callum Murray back. Uh. I understand,
he's franchise quarterback. So when the franchise quarterback comes back,
he has to go. But my point would be, uh,
inn old Ricky.
Speaker 4 (02:31:49):
Waters quote for who for what?
Speaker 1 (02:31:52):
Like? What are like like what you do? Why are
we bringing him back at this point of not going
to the postseason. He's your franchise guy. You win, saw
his statue, saw him come immortalize at Oklahoma. If he's
your guy, then why are we putting him back on
the field.
Speaker 3 (02:32:09):
Yeah, it is understand behind a bad offensive line.
Speaker 1 (02:32:14):
Just to get walloped.
Speaker 3 (02:32:17):
Yeah, I'm a bit confused by it myself, but hey,
that's why they make the big bucks there to make
those decisions and can't wait to see again. And later
on they play it's a home date against the Atlanta Falcons.
B Jhon Robinson is my mom used to use the
phrase saving things for good? Is that kind of what
(02:32:38):
we're doing here in Atlanta? I mean, I know John
new Smith topped out at what twenty miles an hour
running last week and all, and he's athletic, but you know,
I watched in Andy's room what Bjon Robinson was capable of.
Speaker 1 (02:32:51):
Yeah, I don't know. I mean I can't really figure
it out, you know what I mean. You get him,
you expand the high pick to get him, but then
he doesn't.
Speaker 4 (02:32:58):
He doesn't touch as much as I think you should
touch it.
Speaker 1 (02:33:01):
Like, if you're don't spend a high pick on a
running back, then what you want to do is you
want to ride him to the wheels falloffs right away.
We're not even worried about the second contract in those things.
We're trying to maximize the opportunity with him getting touches
and they haven't done it, which is weird considering Arthur
Smith is one of the best run game designers that
we've seen, and he had like he did it at
a high level with Derrick Henry. He's done it, I
mean recent his last year with the Atlanta Falcons. I
(02:33:22):
don't know why they're not committed to running the football.
Speaker 3 (02:33:24):
Well and because that's the curiosity too, right, and why
I was kind of down on him, like he was
a guy that getting drafted as a top five in
a lot of fantasy leagues. I'm like, you still have
all gear and you still have if Cordero Patterson was
healthy and you thought Ritter would leach off some of
those runs as well. Now it's the Taylor Heineke show.
But curiosity, which is.
Speaker 1 (02:33:44):
Another thing all in itself. After all year, Oh he's
my guy, ridder is my guy, until he's not my guy,
and now Tyler Heineke's my guy. We like some of
the things that Hene can do, okay, like whatever it
is you want, but they just seem like a hodgepodge of.
Speaker 3 (02:34:00):
Mess I think that's the nice way to sum that up.
He's Bucky Brooks up. Mike Karmen here, Fox Football Sunday,
Fox Sports Radio. Coming up next, we'll turn back to
a couple of the big games of the day, some
spotlights and a guy who lives at home he may
have found and literally found the mother load. We'll talk
about that coming up next here on Fox Sports Radio.
(02:34:23):
Welcome back into the tire Act dot Com, Fox Sports
Radio Studios, Mike Harmon alongside Bucky Brooks NFL dot Com,
NFL Network with us here on Fox Sports Radio, of
course a FS one working with the Jaguars. They've got
a huge game a little bit later, one of the
marquee games on the slate against the San Francisco forty
nine ers. No pressure pressure here, Bucky, but I did
(02:34:44):
pick the Jaguars to go to the Super Bowl, so
not no pressu at all. Yeah. I like it to
have them jump on your mighty back, and I'll be expecting,
you know, some playoff shares when that comes to fruition
for talking it into existence, We're brought to you by
Progressive Insurance. Progressive makes bundling easy and affordable. Get a
multi policy discount. By combining your motorcycle, RV, boat, a TV,
(02:35:07):
and more, all your protection in one place. You can
bundle and save at Progressive dot Com. All right, one
of the stories of the week is the tenth starting quarterback, yes,
tenth rookie starting quarterback this year, and that's Tommy DeVito.
We saw him in relief of the injured Daniel Jones. Again,
another example of why are we bringing this guy back?
(02:35:30):
He had a neck injury. He's at myriad hits. What
are we trying to prove? You have already paid him?
And then he goes down and obviously will now miss
the next year plus. But Tommy DeVito goes into the
game and he'll start later on heavy underdogs. We're talking
about a seventeen point point spread against the Dallas Cowboys
(02:35:50):
on the road at Dallas. We talked Micah Parsons earlier.
He's hoping to get home a couple of days and
a couple of times today so he can augment of
those stats against DeVito. But a great story that came
out was, I mean, the guy still lives at home,
so he's only concentrating on football. Bucky Mom takes care
of meals, his laundry, anything he's got going during the
(02:36:13):
day other than practice and actually going to sleep. Putting
a fork up to his mouth. I mean, everything's taken
care of for him. That's a pretty good deal.
Speaker 1 (02:36:23):
It's a pretty good deal. I wonder if he still
touches when he crawls into that twin bed of his
and he looks up at those teen beat posters.
Speaker 3 (02:36:31):
Nice of you know, he's got the light.
Speaker 1 (02:36:39):
When he gets in his he gets in his Lightning
mc queen bed and he's got his little posters up
from Megan Fox and whoever else, and you know, and
he says good night. You know, I wonder what's like
as he pulls into the facility, thinking about, Oh, man,
you know what I gotta do? Mom is on Man,
I got to clean up the bathroom. I got to
straighten up my room. I gotta make up my bed
(02:37:00):
before I leave. I wondered west that. I mean, he's
like a full going football camper.
Speaker 3 (02:37:04):
Mom let me loaf, he wanted.
Speaker 1 (02:37:10):
I mean, that's unbelievable, but that's smart though, Like how
many guys are fortunate to play in their hometown close
enough where they can do that. Like think about the
amount of money that he's saving being in Look, being
in New York, not having to pay rent, not having
to buy anything, just you know, like the car to
and from mom's house to the facility. I mean that's
(02:37:31):
it looks this nice life for Timmy DeVito.
Speaker 3 (02:37:34):
Oh it's not bad, right, I mean we're not talking
about a guy that was a you know, top notch
rookie quarterback, bonus baby kind of thing. Save those save
those dimes where you can. Yeah, and also your time
if you literally only have to concentrate on football, Like
that's the biggest thing he tried to emphasize when talking
about is living a situation, right, I mean a bunch
(02:37:56):
of guys we've seen them there driving their their old
beaters for years into the league and whatever else. I mean,
if you can save those dimes, why would you not?
Speaker 1 (02:38:06):
I mean really that it really is smart, Like like
we kid, but it's really a smart thing. Like he's young.
He doesn't have any attachment just having family of kids
or anything like why not live with your mom? Let
your mom do everything. He talked about mom give him
chicken cutlets and all.
Speaker 3 (02:38:19):
Other stuff just coming home.
Speaker 1 (02:38:21):
I mean the other thing, I just have this thing
he's having like ravioli and the woodles and noodles and
whatever else that mom is making.
Speaker 3 (02:38:30):
Whatever gets through. Hey, mom My nutrition has said my
sodium was a little bit of spaghettios. Yeah, we gotta
get we gotta get it all canned, canned stuff. But no,
it's all serious, is you know, you try to find
your advantages whatever you're doing out there, however you're getting by.
We appreciate you being part of the extended family for sure.
And I appreciate this guy, undrafted free agent getting his shot.
(02:38:52):
I hope he makes the most of it. Always rooting
for an underdog story, but we talk about underdogs in
a massive way here today, Bucky. You know, as we
look at the slate and try to find some of
those other gems on it. We've got a New England
three to nothing lead here late first quarter at this point,
but in the final minute. Is there a game outside
(02:39:14):
of your own that really has your rapt attention in
terms of kind of putting a team on the right
path going forward?
Speaker 1 (02:39:22):
To me, this is a game, and we've talked about
it a couple of different times, Cleveland Baltimore being a
huge game. It's a huge game because everybody in the
AFC North is above five hundred and they currently are
sitting in the postseason tournament. So the winner of this
has some advantages, particularly if it's to Baltimore Ravens. But
if the Ravens lose to the Browns, you talk about
the next few weeks being a mini round robin to
(02:39:44):
determine who's going to win to AFC North, Love it,
love it, love it.
Speaker 3 (02:39:47):
Yeah, I'm hoping to steal a couple of side by
sides of Mike Tomlin given side eye to George Pickens
for something that goes weird on the sideline. We've got
the history teams of the Packers and Steelers getting after
at Matt Canada will be on the sideline again. Nobody
has gotten more run about where he will be physically
located for a game than Matt Canada, but obviously Detroit
(02:40:09):
and the Chargers. For me, we got a lot of
folks that we know that have vested interests in these games. Yeah,
so all of that coming up today, Bucky, Thanks for
hanging have a great call today. We'll talk to you
during the week. Mike hopped out. A kickoff is next
