Speaker 1 (00:01):
This is Fox Sports Countdown. We're setting you up for
their sports weekend and covering all the action from the
stadiums to the arenas. This is Fox Sports Countdown, brought
to you by MG the sports beforn in Vegas. The

(00:22):
Countdown starts not live from the Fox Sports radio studios.
Here's Brian no, Rich Hornberger and Jared Smith.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
Oh what is going on everybody?

Speaker 3 (00:35):
I hope you're enjoying your Saturday and it's off to
a swimming start over here.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
A good morning, Rich, Good morning Jared. Everything good with you, guys.

Speaker 4 (00:43):
Good good and ask you fire up?

Speaker 5 (00:46):
Give me here?

Speaker 4 (00:47):
Very nice?

Speaker 2 (00:48):
Okay, so I think we start with good news over here.

Speaker 4 (00:51):
How about this?

Speaker 3 (00:52):
Shamar Stewart of the Bengals is signed, sealed and delivered.
I finally agreed to a contract with the Bengals. There
was a standoff between him and the organization where the
Bengals they were pushing if this and if that that,
Schamar would not get certain guarantees in his contract. And

(01:14):
so finally they've resolved their differences over this language that
would void guaranteed money.

Speaker 2 (01:20):
And according to Schefter, he put out the tweet there.

Speaker 3 (01:22):
Shamar Stewart and the Cincinnati Bengals reached an agreement on
a four year, fully guaranteed, eighteen point nine to seven
million dollar contract. So I want to play a game
right off the right at the beginning of the show here, Okay,
So simple question, and the game is you know which
side are you on?

Speaker 2 (01:41):
Basically?

Speaker 3 (01:42):
Is this just part of the negotiating process, right, Like
it gets a little ugly, gets a little messy, and
then things get resolved. So just part of the process.
Or is this unnecessarily difficult? With what happened between the
Bengals and Shamar what would you say that they're rich?

Speaker 6 (02:01):
Well, what's difficult about it is it's almost like when
somebody says, hey, the Dolphins are facing the Vikings and
for you, Brian, I know you like the Dolphins, but
for me, I don't have a dog in the fight.
But the Dolphins are facing the Vikings on Thursday night football,
who are you rooting for? And like, if you're not

(02:22):
from Miami and you're not from Minnesota and you're just
hoping for a good game, like you're just hoping for
a good game, right you know? So I guess my
lean is toward the player, right because having been through
the ringer as a player watching how negotiations go, typically
watching how much advantage has been classically been taken of

(02:45):
players in contract negotiations over the course of my career,
and of course afterward covering the game. I guess my
lean is towards Samar Stewart getting everything you can possibly
get from these owners while you're playing football, because it
is a short window where you can earn and if
you're uncomfortable with the contract language, you know, get the back.

(03:07):
Try to get as much favorable language in your favor
as possible because the owners are going to win the
exchange every time anyways. But in terms of this negotiation
in particular, am I a huge Shamar Stewart fan? Like,
was I aware of him before he was a draft pick?

Speaker 5 (03:23):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (03:24):
You know obviously in passing the Bengals, I mean, am
I a Bengals fan? No, So it's kind of like
I just wanted to see where this one landed. And
like all good negotiations, it sounds like both sides finished
negotiations unhappy, which is usually how you know that there

(03:46):
were wins that each side didn't want to concede or
losses that each side didn't want to concede within the negotiation,
and I think that means that it was a pretty
healthy negotiation agreed.

Speaker 4 (04:00):
Definitely was compromise, right, Stewart did cave on some of
the language in the deal, but he also got five
hundred K of extra pocket change for his troubles, So
I think that's I mean, again, I'm not to me,
five hundred k is like, you know, life changing money, almost,

(04:22):
But for these guys, it's just kind of, you know,
moving some of the deck chairs around the Titanic. I
guess in some capacity, I typically, especially because of the
way Cincinnati has a track record with these types of things,
I kind of fault myself to our I guess error
to the side of the player because of just the

(04:43):
Bengals track record and also what's happening with Trey Hendrickson.
Like I mean, honestly, I think those two things go
hand in hand. And Cincinnati does have this kind of
you know, aura about them where they do tend to
be a little bit more on the frugal side. So
the benefit of the doubt right out of the gate
to me went towards Stuart. Now that I've had a

(05:05):
chance to kind of absorb the situation, I think we
should just allow it to settle and hopefully we never
speak of this contract negotiation again, because Cincinnati's got a
whole nother one that they're dealing with, and frankly, I
think that one's more important.

Speaker 3 (05:20):
This is the definition of unnecessarily difficult.

Speaker 2 (05:25):
This is textbook.

Speaker 3 (05:26):
If you look it up, like contract negotiations being unnecessarily difficult,
you will see a picture of the Bengals, and in
the shadows would be Samar Stuart, right, because he's part
of this whole negotiation. But the way this was dragged out,
it's so unnecessary. Now there are a couple of clips
from Mike Brown, the Bengals team owner. Now he was

(05:48):
speaking earlier this week before the deal was agreed to. Okay,
so he's explaining like how they got here, what they're
arguing about. But listen to some of the things that
he says. Here's the first clip. We'll go piece by
piece here, right, because I think this is important. This
is Mike Brown again, Bengals team owner, talking about, Hey.

Speaker 2 (06:08):
What's going on?

Speaker 3 (06:09):
What's with this standoffs at the time again earlier this
week between the player and the organization.

Speaker 2 (06:15):
Here's Mike Brown.

Speaker 7 (06:16):
Basically it turns on whether out ears are guaranteed if
he gets involved in conduct detrimental to football. Well, what
does that mean? Detrimental to football? In recent years has
been violence to women. That's about the one that comes

(06:40):
to mine. There are others, probably, but that's the one
that I think of.

Speaker 3 (06:45):
Okay, so you know, we got to protect ourselves just
in case Samar is slapping women around over you. That's
the first part that's completely disrespectful. Here's the second part
from Mike Brown.

Speaker 7 (06:55):
Well, if we get a player who gets involved in
something like that or does some that is just unacceptable.
Guess what, I don't want to pay him. I really don't.
If he's sitting in jail, I don't think I ought
to be paying him.

Speaker 3 (07:08):
Okay, so it might be behind bars now, Okay, it
might be in the clink over here. We got to
think about jail time. Why the hell did you draft
this player? If this is such a concert Now the
final one. I can't even make this up. This is
the kicker after all this drama. Mike Brown's like, I
don't think we're gonna have a problem anyway.

Speaker 2 (07:28):
Check this out.

Speaker 7 (07:29):
Oddly, something like this has never occurred in my memory.
With us. I don't think it's going to occur. So
we're sitting here arguing over something that I think is
pretty remote, and I ask myself sometimes why the hell

(07:50):
we're doing it?

Speaker 2 (07:50):
But we are, Oh my lord, are you kidding me?

Speaker 4 (07:55):
With all of this?

Speaker 3 (07:56):
It was dragged out for months, and the odor of
the team.

Speaker 2 (08:00):
Is like, I don't know why we're even doing this,
Like what, Oh my god, you can't make it.

Speaker 4 (08:07):
You're here, Okay.

Speaker 2 (08:09):
I'm just happy. I don't root for the Bengals.

Speaker 3 (08:12):
I would be headbutting my wall on a daily basis
if that's what was going on with my team.

Speaker 5 (08:17):
My lord, that is exactly correct. That is exactly correct.

Speaker 6 (08:21):
And by the way, that's the reason why I typically
side with players in these negotiations is because you think,
because it's the NFL, man, man, these teams must be
pretty buttoned up, like they must have all their ducks
in a row. They've got these crack legal staffs. These
owners are super plugged in and tuned into negotiations, and

(08:42):
it's like sharks in the water, and they have a
reason for everything they do, and and you know, you know,
just go through every single line of that contract and
with a fine tooth code and and if if there's something.

Speaker 5 (08:55):
In there, there's a great reason for it.

Speaker 6 (08:57):
And guess what, that's a lot of nonsense because a
lot of the things that are put into player contracts
are booby traps and safety nets for the owners, and
it benefits the owners, and through the collective bargaining and
process between the union, the players, and the ownership, over time,

(09:17):
some of that language that would you know, extraordinarily benefit
the owners has been taken out because it would now
go against the bylaws agreed to by the players and
the owners.

Speaker 5 (09:29):
But this has been.

Speaker 6 (09:30):
Such a adversarial and predatory relationship over the years, owners
against players. I mean it's almost like you know, watching
you know, sides of beef on a conveyor belt coming
through a warehouse waiting for their time to be hacked
up and shipped off to the masses.

Speaker 5 (09:50):
Like that's in my brain what it looks.

Speaker 6 (09:52):
Like sometimes when I'm watching an NFL game or an
NFL practice, Because guess what happens when a player blows
out his knee at practice. It's not like the owner
comes running down from his tower and sits bedside with
the player and nurses.

Speaker 5 (10:06):
Him back to health.

Speaker 6 (10:08):
We move ten yards forward, and while that guy is
contemplating if he can earn another single penny in the NFL,
we're working on the next place because guess what, we're
playing the New York Jets next weekend.

Speaker 5 (10:20):
You're not because your knee is shattered. So when it.

Speaker 6 (10:24):
Comes to an owner, especially when as out of touch
is Mike Brown playing hardball against a player who says,
you know, it is really vague to put a statement
like conduct detrimental to the football club in my contract.
I want this to be specified or I want it
out of my contract. It is really hard to side
with the Bengals, especially when you have a doddering, like

(10:46):
ridiculous answer to an interview question like Mike Brown, the
owner of the Cincinnati Bengals.

Speaker 5 (10:53):
Just gave there.

Speaker 4 (10:54):
Yeah. I mean we saw this as Jerry Jones too.
I know we're gonna get to the Parson stuff at
some point today. These owners just kind of they are
very good at kind of parsing through this language. I mean,
they're most of these owners are businessmen. That's what they did. Like,
They're not you know, football guys to to a most degree.

(11:15):
They're they're business people and they got into football. But
the reason why that they're good at owning a team,
or I guess good at money, is because they're good businessmen.
I can't relate to this personally, Rich, I know you can.
The part of it I can relate to is when
I've in the past negotiated contracts in the television radio

(11:35):
industry and there are certain buzzwords that always bother me,
that always bother my lawyer when he reviews the deals.
And this is one of those buzzwords, like I think
the language and the deal is very specific. Like for me,
it's always they own you in perpetuity, like they can
use your likeness forever. Yeah, that's the one that always

(11:57):
gets me in the in the media contracts, it's like,
wait a minute, you own me forever, like in perpetuity,
and you always have to be very careful. Again, this
has nothing to do with football, but my point being,
these contracts never favor the employee. They always favor the
employer because the employer is writing them and the employee
has to sign them, and so they get to put it,

(12:19):
They get first crack of the language and then you
have to respond back. And this one, yeah, Brian, I
think you said it perfectly, Like, I hope we never
speak of this contract negotiation ever again. I hope we
wipe it from our memory bank like men in black
flashy thingy and we just move on because I'll be
again to go back to my original point. The bigger

(12:41):
fish to fry here is the guy that's had seventeen
and a half sacks in back to back years and
the Bengals pass defense goes from a top fifteen unit
when he's on the field to a bottom feeder unit
when he's off the field. And I'm talking about Drey Anderson.
Shamar Stewart at four and a half sacks in college
last year. Very good player with a lot of upside.

(13:04):
Henderson's had thirty five sacks in the last two years.
That is to me, that's the guy you need to
get under a contract now, yesterday. The season starts next
week for you know, preseason starts very soon. So I
the Shamar Stewart think, I'm happy for the kid. He
deserves his money. Great player at a and m Hendrickson's
the big prize here and that's what Mike Brown should

(13:26):
be worried about right now.

Speaker 3 (13:27):
Yeah, And that's the other thing where Hendrickson hasn't reported
to training camp, but he could because he said the
latest offer from the Bengals is quote atrociously low.

Speaker 2 (13:38):
So that's yeah, and.

Speaker 4 (13:40):
You believe him after what's taking place with Shamar Stewart, right,
Like sometimes you don't take these guys that there were,
but I believe Trey of course.

Speaker 2 (13:46):
Absolutely.

Speaker 3 (13:47):
We got Chris Purfett are a trusted technical producer, extraordinary,
He's got something on this thing.

Speaker 5 (13:51):
Really, It's yeah, it's very I liked.

Speaker 8 (13:55):
I like the point by Rich because it's very fascint
because what's the other big contract story we we're talking about,
you know, where the owners come down and what they'll do,
Like how this is kind of all one sided. The
other news this week was Christian Wilkins getting his voided,
his guaranteed money voided, and the Raiders aren't doing that
unless they feel like they can somehow fight this in

(14:15):
whatever grievance. The NFLPA is headless as they are right now.
But like that's the other side of the coin is
like Stuart played hardball, but like look at what the
Raiders did to Wilkins just on a die killing guaranteed money.

Speaker 4 (14:28):
It's a great, great point.

Speaker 6 (14:30):
It's one of those things, Chris, and thank you for
bringing that up. Where if you think about it just
from a balance of power standpoint, and I know that
the players contracts are the ones that are mostly talked
about here, and I understand that in these situations, it
feels like, since football is such a team sport and
you got to rely on each other so much in

(14:52):
order to make the thing go, it feels greedy when
you watch a player who digs his heels in and says, no,
I'm not going to be taken advantage of.

Speaker 5 (15:01):
I don't feel like this is the right.

Speaker 6 (15:03):
Thing for me to sign for me, for my family,
for my long term well being, for my financial wellbeing,
and it stops the record, you know, the record spinning,
and then all of a sudden, somebody important says, no,
what about me? And it seems so greedy because it's
such a team sport. But you got to divorce what
happens on the field from what happens in contract negotiations,

(15:25):
just like players do. As a fan of the game,
if you could see it through the eyes of have
you ever walked into your employer's office and said, hey,
I need a raise, and you know you have a negotiation,
And if that negotiation had to tumble over the part
of three or four weeks or maybe even two months
before you reached a final agreement, would you feel bad

(15:48):
about it?

Speaker 1 (15:49):
No?

Speaker 6 (15:50):
Would your coworkers feel bad about it? No, your co
workers would be happy for you. They would say, hey, man,
I'm glad you got yours, because when it's my turn,
I'm hoping to get Like. It's not selfish, it's a
part of the big wheel that keeps on turning. And
for as many two hundred million or four hundred million
dollar contracts that are signed. And that sounds like so

(16:12):
much money, Remember the person who is stroking that check
is Mike Brown of the Cincinnati Bengals. If he can
afford to stroke a check to Trey Hendrickson for who
knows what he'll end up getting paid. But say it's
something absurd in the forty million dollar per year category
or more like, you gotta look at it through the

(16:32):
lens of that's because that owner feels like he can
still make a profit off of this game spending that
much money on that player. So you don't have to
weep for the owners. They're gonna be all right. You
should probably just cheer for the players, because those are
the guys who are actually wearing the jerseys and doing
the things that you root for on Monday nights, Thursday nights,

(16:55):
Sundays all day long while you're eating chicken wings from
the couch. So that's the reason why usually lean player
in these negotiation debates.

Speaker 4 (17:03):
Yeah, Mike Brown's worth four billion dollars. I'm not I'm
not concerned. You know, he was on one of you know,
I've read an article, you know, doing some research for
this story this week. You know, he's on the Forbes
Billionaires list, like, you know, one of the richest guys
in America in twenty twenty five. Like, I'm not crying
for him, you know, because he had to shell out
an extra five hundred k to get Shamar Stewart to

(17:25):
get this steal done. This is a guy that is
you know, he's been a businessman his entire life. He's
very he's an older businessman, and you can obviously tell
he's been successful because he's still getting up in front
of the camera talking to reporters about his players and
his employees making significant amounts of money. So when when

(17:46):
it's a good problem to have, right, rich people problems.
We say this all the time, like I don't have
any you know, sympathy for the check he's signing right now.
It's more about are the Bengals going to be impacted
by this in a negative way this season? How do
we handicap that? To me, that's always the bigger question
with this Rich and you can allude to this much

(18:07):
better because you've been in these situations. Is it going
to impact how the team plays this year? Not as
much Stuart now, but now Hendrickson, how does and even
when he signs the deal. We've seen these players sign
these big deals and then their play. You know, they
kind of relax a little bit because they've been through this.
I don't want to say like trauma, but you know,

(18:28):
these situations can be very negative because you're going back
and forth. It's very contentious. You think this guy's on
your team, he's your boss, but really now he's trying
to denigrate you in some way to get extra value,
to lower your value. We've seen this. This is what
Jery Jones is doing. It drives me nuts. It's like, oh,
Mike's injured, he's been hurt this many games. I actually
know he's been hurt this many games like, it's wild

(18:50):
how these owners really treat these players like, you know,
products that they're trying to buy and sell like it's
very it can be very dehumanizing in a sense. So
I'm always curious if it has an impact on their
game after they signed the deal and if things still
are contentious between the player and the front office.

Speaker 3 (19:09):
All right, we've got Rich Orenberger, Penn State All American,

All Right, the other part of the game is, uh,
you know, I wonder to prelay a game? Is what
the Dallas Cowboys here?

Speaker 2 (21:29):
Okay?

Speaker 3 (21:30):
Is this just part of the negotiating process or is
this unnecessarily difficult?

Speaker 2 (21:36):
So this is the.

Speaker 3 (21:38):
Cowboys team owner Jerry Jones right that we still don't
have a huge contract extension for Micah Parsons, the star
pass rusher, and Jerry Jones. He does what Jerry Jones
does best, he goes public. He goes public and gives
you his thoughts. Here's what Jerry has to say about
the latest comings and goings with this contract negotiation.

Speaker 11 (21:58):
Just because we signed him doesn't mean going to have him.
He was hurt six games last year. Seriously, we've signed
I remember signing a player for the highest paid at
the position in the league and he got knocked out
two thirds of the year, Dark Prescott. So there's a
lot of things you can think about when you just
as the player does when you're thinking about committing and

(22:18):
guaranteeing money.

Speaker 3 (22:20):
Okay, all right, so this makes me think of a
lot of things.

Speaker 2 (22:24):
The first part is I love.

Speaker 3 (22:25):
The tweet that JJ Watt sent out because he really
did summed this up pretty well. He just wrote, anytime
you can publicly take a dig at your star quarterback
and your star pass rusher simultaneously right before the season begins,
you just gotta take it. And then he closed with
nothing makes guys want to fight for you more than

(22:46):
hearing how upset you are that they got hurt while
fighting for you. And Micah Parsons retweeted it. So now
we got all this drama going on. That's so unnecessary.
Like Jerry Jones reminds me, I was thinking about this
last night. He reminds me of that scene in Pulp
Fiction where Marcellus is giving the envelope of money to Butch, you.

Speaker 4 (23:07):
Know what I mean.

Speaker 3 (23:08):
Like it's ving rams and he's holding that envelope of
money and Bruce Willis is like trying to take the
money away and ving Rames is not letting go of it.

Speaker 2 (23:18):
That's Jerry Jones.

Speaker 3 (23:19):
Jerry Jones is Marcellus holding on to the money like
for an uncomfortable amount of time, and the players just like, Okay,
can I get paid now?

Speaker 2 (23:29):
Or what are we gonna make this as difficult as possible?

Speaker 5 (23:32):
I get it.

Speaker 2 (23:32):
Last thing I'll say is this.

Speaker 3 (23:35):
I understand what Jerry Jones is saying, but this shows
you how you can be right and wrong at the
same time. He's correct in what he's saying, like, Hey,
this isn't the only thing you have to think of
when I'm writing the checks. I think of these things,
which is valid, But you're wrong at the same time
for just saying it out loud. That would be like

(23:56):
you say, hey, hey, gather around, everybody, gather around. Man,
look at my girl. She's put on some weight.

Speaker 4 (24:02):
Huh.

Speaker 2 (24:03):
Like you might be correct, maybe she did add some lbs.

Speaker 3 (24:06):
But to say that it's completely wrong. That's how I
feel with Jerry Jones. He might be correct in aspects,
but to say this publicly and to make it as
dramatic as it's going to inevitably become, he's wrong for
doing that. It's there just a sideshow all over again.
That's what happens every single time with the Cowboys.

Speaker 6 (24:27):
Yeah, there's a time and place for everything. You know,
when you meet a happily married couple, what they're showing
you is what they want to show you. But like
any relationship, whether you're talking about a romantic relationship or
you're talking about a business relationship, I trust me if

(24:49):
it's a successful relationship. There have been turbulent times. There
have been hard discussions. There have been maybe potentially lines.

Speaker 5 (24:59):
Crossed that either side never thought would be crossed. You know,
I mean, I don't know.

Speaker 6 (25:04):
Every relationship is different, but you know what, a lot
of those conversations may may exist behind the scenes, and
what you know you see on a double date night
is very different than what happens when the doors closed
and you're onto the car ride home. You know, same
thing with the business relationship. Yeah, you know where the

(25:27):
San Francisco forty nine ers or where the New York
Jets are. In this case, we're the Dallas Cowboys, and
we play hard as a team, and we have all
these mottos that you know, we we recite.

Speaker 3 (25:39):
You know.

Speaker 6 (25:40):
Uh, there's big motivational posters on the wall inside of
our practice facility. But guess what, sometimes you have hard
negotiations that a lot is revealed during. You know, maybe
all of a sudden you find out that the ownership
is pretty unhappy with how unhealthy you have been over
the course of your over the course of your business

(26:03):
relationship together. You know, maybe they think that it's because
you're too overweight, and maybe they want to put a
weight loss clause in your contract otherwise you won't hit certain.

Speaker 5 (26:14):
Incentives, you know. I mean, I've seen contracts like that.

Speaker 6 (26:17):
I've seen contracts where players aren't allowed to ride a
motorcycle because they've had one too many accidents.

Speaker 5 (26:22):
You know. I've seen you know, specific activities.

Speaker 6 (26:25):
Outside of the facility, whether it's you know, pick up
basketball or if they're into some sort of extreme sport
like skateboarding on a half pipe. You're not allowed to
do those things otherwise we'll avoid your contract.

Speaker 5 (26:40):
And those things can get really contentious.

Speaker 6 (26:42):
Because from a player or an ownership side, these are
very important details that must be added for this to
move forward, and both sides end up being disgruntled through
that process.

Speaker 5 (26:54):
But a lot of that stays behind closed doors.

Speaker 6 (26:57):
And then again, when you see whatever the team or
the couple or the friendship wants to present to the
rest of the world, well, that's what they want you
to see. Jerry Jones blurs that line too often where
he's taking all of the dirty laundry that normally you
take care of. You stick it in a hamper and

(27:17):
you take care of it when nobody's visiting a house,
and he pours it on the kitchen table during dinner
and everybody's like, you know, Jerry, is this the time
to sort through the dirty laundry. He's like, well, you
gotta find time to separate the socks and the whites
from the darks, and we gotta make sure that the underwear.

Speaker 5 (27:33):
You know, we like to wash the underwear on hot
don't y'all.

Speaker 6 (27:36):
Okay, well, we're gonna do that and by the way,
try the meatloaf. Peg does such a good job with
the meat loaf. It's like, right now, Jerry, we're doing
the dirty laundry right now. He doesn't care. And I
do agree with you, Brian. I think it's a bad
way to do business. I think some of the best
relationships I'm aware of they know time and place and
Jerry Jones does not.

Speaker 4 (27:57):
Yeah, and that is exactly my thoughts on this issue
when it comes to biting off more than you can chew.
And Jerry, I'm sure is very capable of handling both roles,
you know, in his mind. But the first, actually the
first thing that I do every offseason, right when the
football off season happens, is I update my front office grid,

(28:19):
which is just general manager, head coach, offensive coordinator, the
play caller, defensive coordinator, and right next to each name,
I put how many years or what year they are
entering in that role. Well, there's only one guy that
has a three next to his name with a second digit,
and that's Jerry Jones, who is now entering his thirty

(28:39):
sixth season as general manager of the Dallas Cowboys. There
are people on this call right now that do this
show and produce this show and work on this show
that we're not alive. When Jerry Jones took that job over,
I was three, Like, it's a long time in the
NFL to have that job. And obviously the reason that

(29:00):
he has it is because he's also the owner of
the team, and that is the part that is unique
here to me, these are two very different conversations. If
the owner was going up and giving a state of
the team address, there's no way that he would be
diving into this dirty laundry. That's why Mike Brown doing
it as the owner was like jarring. But as the

(29:23):
general manager, you understand it. You have two very different conversations.
If Micah Parsons calls Jerry Jones, is he talking to
the owner of the GM Like, it's almost like you
have to clarify which role he's in, because I think
those are two very different conversations, and I just don't
understand how you can wear those two hats and effectively

(29:45):
balance both worlds. They're very different worlds, and I wish
I was in one of them because they're both They
look like fun jobs, especially the owner and you have
all the money, But these are conversations that I don't
know if an owner really should be having publicly, but
he's also the so he kind of has to have him.
It's a very unique situation. But also Jerry pick up
the phone and call Micah, Like he's like, oh, I

(30:06):
didn't talk to him. I had people that talk to
him to his talk to his people, Mike, Jerry, pick
up the phone and call him. He's your best player, Like,
just get involved in that scenario. You're willing to air
the dirty laundry out in public to the media. Pick
up the phone and call him. I mean, again, that's
just me and my style. How I would have had
a relationship with a player if I was a GM.
But it's just unique how each GM and owner kind

(30:29):
of have their own little vibe and Jerry's got to
kind of balance both worlds, and I think that's one
of the reasons that we're kind of in this weird
back and forth.

Speaker 3 (30:37):
This is Fox Sports Radio's Countdown, presented by Bett MGM. Yeah,
I wanted to shift gears because sad news this week
where we've had some well known deaths, right and some
of it connected to the sports world, with Hulk Hogan
passing away, Ozzy Osbourne passed away and Malcolm Jamal Warner,
who played the character Theo Huxtable on The Cosby Show,

(31:02):
all passed away this week and very sad news. Obviously,
your thoughts and prayers with the families and the loved ones.
That's the first thing I think about when some of
these guys like Hulk, Hogan, Ozzy, when they reached this
level of fame.

Speaker 2 (31:17):
You know, a lot of people don't think of them
as anything but that.

Speaker 3 (31:22):
You know, they think of Ozzy the musician, They think
of the singer, Hulk the pro wrestler, and that's it.

Speaker 2 (31:28):
They don't see beyond that.

Speaker 3 (31:30):
And it's like, these guys have families and loved ones
and you know what I mean, it goes well beyond
just what they're most known for. That's the first thing
I think of, But not to get too deep with it.
I thought about this with you two guys. Which of
those three did you spend time with the most over
the years? You know, not maybe probably didn't know them personally,

(31:51):
but was it Ozzy and his music, was it the
Holkster and his pro wrestling? I think for me it
was actually the Cosby Show. I think I spent the most.
I'm watching THEO on The Cosby Show growing up. I mean,
you know, I love rock music and all that. So
I've listened to Ozzie plenty and I love the nWo days,
in particular with Hollywood Hulk Hogan. You know, that's kind

(32:14):
of my entry point. It wasn't before that, but I
think it was THEO. I think it was Malcolm Jamal
Warner of the three. But I was curious how it
broke broke down for you guys who you spent the
most time with over the years.

Speaker 6 (32:25):
What's interesting is I discovered Bill Cosby the Comedian before
Bill Cosby The Cosby Show, and so I had a
hard time separating sure, Bill Cosby the Comedian from Doctor Huxtable,
and so had I just had a hard time buying
into the script kind of thing.

Speaker 5 (32:46):
And then in.

Speaker 6 (32:47):
Terms of Hulk Hogan, again, like later in life, I
had a greater appreciation and awareness of what wrestlers do.
I think because I knew from the jump that obviously
outcomes were predetermined, it didn't interest me as much as sport.
But then finding out the behind the scenes stuff actually

(33:09):
made me appreciate what he and all those wrestlers fought
through their whole lives in order to entertain the masses.
But for me, it was Ozzy and I read his
autobiography and obviously watched The Osbourne's like many of us
on MTV, I mean, the producers of that show and
Ozzy and his family being so open to that concept

(33:29):
really revolutionized how we watched television.

Speaker 5 (33:33):
But beyond that, I fell in love with his music.

Speaker 6 (33:35):
First in the weight rooms of East Metal High School,
with my defensive line coach, strength coach Steve Anderson, shouting
Ozzy at the top of his lungs whenever Crazy Train
or any of his jams would come on, and the
stereo would be cranked and we'd be clinking the metal weights,
you know, in the blazing hot and ninety degree humid,

(33:55):
you know, Northeastern summers here in this country, because you know,
Long Island, New York, it doesn't get as hot as
like some of the you know, Southeastern weight rooms in
high schools, you know, like like in Date my Dade
County or Miami. But I mean we were cooking in there,
and man, that music fueled you. It absolutely did. It's
a rest in peace to all three of them. But

(34:16):
Ozzie was was definitely the most impactful loss.

Speaker 4 (34:19):
I would say Hulk for me, and you know, I
differentiate the wrestler from the person. Obviously, I've learned a
lot about him. You know, later on in life. He
had some you know, transgressions that were very much public
and I don't buy into that mindset that that he
kind of had in those you know tapes that were
leaked in some of the things that he said. But

(34:39):
Hulk as the wrestler was very transformative in my early years.
I was a big wrestling fan. I was more into
the stone Cold Steve Austin, Sean Michael's bad boy type stuff.
But nWo was very impactful as well. Yeah, so it's
funny all three of us kind of have three different answers.

Speaker 2 (34:55):
Yeah right, Yeah, I know.

Speaker 3 (34:56):
That is funny because yeah, I'm sure we've all spent
time with all three.

Speaker 4 (35:01):
Yeah, yes, But the Osbourne's were was one of the
first really introductions to me to Ozzie. I wasn't a
big fan of his music. I was a little too
late for his music. Shame on you, Jared. That's the
way I know. I'm not into the metal like you.
That's not my bob. I was actually more of like
a cut classic rock R and B.

Speaker 3 (35:18):
So you know it's funny, is I could if you
just gave me an episode of The Cosby Show. It's
so weird because of what happened with Bill Cosby and
being an epic creepster to say the least. But I
mean some of those episodes are just classics back in
the day where one of my favorite episodes was you know, uh,

(35:42):
Bill Cosby or Doctor Huxtable. He's trying to get through
the THEO like, you gotta have a real job, you
gotta make real money. You have all these expenses and
they're playing with fake money, like monopoly money, and he's like,
there is a problem, you know, like Bill Cosby, you
haven't eaten yet, And so he takes some of the money,
and THEO takes some of the money back and says,

(36:02):
I can survive on belownean cereal.

Speaker 2 (36:05):
Like that line will always stick with me. I don't
know how.

Speaker 3 (36:08):
Many years it's been, but there are many like that
where I just think about that show and yeah, man,
like I spent a lot.

Speaker 2 (36:16):
Of time, you know that without Malcolm Jamal Warner.

Speaker 3 (36:19):
Knowing that I spent a lot of time with the
Huxtables growing up man, there's some great episodes there, but hey,
we'll miss all three of course, and thoughts and prayers
to their loved ones because they're real people and go
well beyond their characters what they're most known for.

Speaker 4 (36:33):
For sure.

Speaker 3 (36:34):
Hey, be sure to check out the Fox Sports Radio
YouTube channel. Just search Fox Sports Radio on YouTube and
you'll see a whole bunch of video highlights from our shows.
And be sure to subscribe to you always have instant
access to our Fox Sports Radio videos on YouTube. We've
got Rich Orenberger, Penn State All American, Jared Smith FSR
betting analyst. I'm Brian Nell. Coming up next. It is

(36:56):
the parlay p Ladder. Weach have one selection for you.
We pull it together for a greater payout, and I'll
tell you what I'm feeling frisky slash crazy this morning.
You know, maybe spice this parlay up with the payout
we'll see. It is Fox Sports Radios Countdown presented by
bet MGM. It is Fox Sports Radios Countdown presented by

(37:17):
bet MGM.

Speaker 2 (37:18):
No time to waste, let's dive into this.

Speaker 1 (37:23):
Check this out ar lay letter.

Speaker 2 (37:26):
All right, the platter, We just have one selection for you.

Speaker 3 (37:30):
We pull it together for a greater payout, and let
me tell you, it's pretty great prey payout today.

Speaker 2 (37:35):
I don't know if it's gonna cash, but if it cash,
is a great payout. Jared with the first lake, what
do you.

Speaker 5 (37:40):
Have for us?

Speaker 4 (37:41):
Yeah, let's not suck today because the bet was made
and it's juicy because we have a twenty five percent
harlay boost over at BETMGM today. So this harlay was
originally under ten to one. Now it's over eleven to one.
So listen up and listen good. I'm going with the
under eight and a half. In the Dbacks Pirates game,
these two teams played a one nothing game yesterday. Go

(38:02):
back and look at the trends in history. Over the
last ten years or so, there have been seventy six
extra inning games that went into extra zero zero since
twenty fourteen. In the rest of the series after that game,
the under is thirty one and seventeen. And it makes sense, right,
two teams struggle to score, game goes to extra's neil

(38:25):
mil zero zero.

Speaker 5 (38:26):
For the non.

Speaker 4 (38:27):
Soccer people out there, typically that means that the offense
is it ain't your a week or I guess your weekend.
So Merrill Kelly, Andrew Heaney your pitching matchup today, Merrill Kelly,
this could be as flash start as a diamond back.
He could get traded next week. But I'll just back
the trends and say, low scoring game between Arizona and
Fifth Perk today under eight and a half, first leg
of the parilot.

Speaker 6 (38:47):
Okay, let me go with Braves over Rangers today. I
think Grant Holmes matches up better than the numbers. So
right now he's four to nine in terms of wins losses,
three point eightyra about but he's he's a better pitcher
so far this season than Rocker, who's shown promise his

(39:10):
last outing, but he's got inconsistent control so far this season.
It's made him vulnerable, especially against a team with power
hitters like Olsen and Riley.

Speaker 5 (39:21):
So give me the ifs, who.

Speaker 6 (39:23):
Are a slight favorite minus one h two here today.
But it'll get juicy with that parlay, like you said,
and a little bit of an extra squeeze with that
incentive we got going on. Yeah, yeah, we have a
little incentive.

Speaker 2 (39:37):
Jerry will tell us about a little boost nice. I
always love the boosts.

Speaker 3 (39:41):
Okay, So there are two trends with two teams that
are facing each other today, and they both greatly favor
the Blue Jays. So the Blue Jays they have an
MLB best record this month of sixteen and four. Meanwhile,
they're facing the Tigers who have lost a lot eleven
of their last twelve games. And more importantly, the Tigers

(40:04):
are not scoring runs. They've been outscored eighty three to
thirty two in that span of twelve games where they've
lost eleven of them. And so what can completely change
things that Trek Scoogle is pitching.

Speaker 2 (40:18):
To the Tigers today?

Speaker 3 (40:19):
But if you look at the Blue Jays, they lead
the Majors with the least strikeouts as a team. So
Scoogle he had eleven strikeouts this last out in strikeout Artist, Well,
the Blue Jays do a great job of not striking
out at least putting the ball in play. If you
do that, good things are bound to happen. So there
are number of things I like with the Blue Jays.
I like them scoring over two and a half runs

(40:40):
on a team total. I like the schoolbl under strikeouts.
I also like the run line blue Jays plus one
and a half, that's minus a dollar thirty five.

Speaker 2 (40:49):
But this is a yolo pick, all right. You only
live once, baby.

Speaker 3 (40:53):
We're going Blue Jays plus one sixty five on the
money line.

Speaker 2 (40:58):
They are more than live in this one.

Speaker 3 (41:00):
With the Tigers not scoring runs, the blue Jays not
striking out, we get plus one sixty five.

Speaker 2 (41:07):
If we're more than live, I gotta I gotta jump
on plus one sixty five. So that's what I have
for you, guys.

Speaker 4 (41:13):
I like it a lot, I really do. The Blue
Jays have been really tough, like a cocker roach. They
won't go away, and that American league's being very very
pesky right now. So plus nine to forty nine the
odds of just the parlay, which is pretty good for us.
Usually we're in the five to one range. But BEDAMGM
has that twenty five percent boost today up to plus
eleven eighty six. Come on, cash us, here we go.

Speaker 2 (41:37):
That's a payout right there, all right?

Speaker 3 (41:38):
Coming up next college ball, including my Irish and their
nitty lyons.

Speaker 5 (41:42):
Ah.

Speaker 3 (41:42):
Yes, happy Saturday to you. Hope your day is off
to a fantastic start. We will get to college football
season win totals. Let's go yes, in just a few seconds,
say be sure to check out the Fox Sports Radio

shout out to our trusted producer Bo Benson, because he
always emails me kind of like the skeleton of the
rundown with all the reads and stuff, and his email
just said it's beginning to smell a.

Speaker 2 (42:19):
Lot like ball. Ball great, great way to send an email.

Speaker 4 (42:24):
Love it.

Speaker 3 (42:25):
And then shout out to Rich Shortly after that. I
sent out the rundown late last night and I got
like ball.

Speaker 2 (42:32):
That's right.

Speaker 3 (42:32):
I got a bounce back email from Rich. It just
said out of office back Monday, July twenty eight.

Speaker 4 (42:42):
Up to this week.

Speaker 2 (42:43):
What's going on over there?

Speaker 6 (42:44):
A little vacation time as a duly appointed iHeart employee.
You guys got my work email from my local show,
which I'm taking vacation time from, but work in the weekend.

Speaker 5 (43:00):
What's so funny is this is gonna sound really really ridiculous.
I say to I say to my.

Speaker 6 (43:06):
Wife Annie, I'm like, yeah, Mike, I'm gonna take the
whole week off from work. She's like, what about the
sports show on the weekend. I'm like, no, I can't
quit this.

Speaker 4 (43:16):
I love that. First of all, thank you because we would.
This show is immaculate and I get comments all the
time about our chemistry. I'm not even joking.

Speaker 5 (43:28):
Oh wow.

Speaker 4 (43:29):
But also just the out of office sending him a
work email for a show is just that is awesome.
Awesome up there, dude.

Speaker 5 (43:44):
I'm I'm I'm such a like I'm pretending to be
corporate rich. I have no idea what I'm doing. I'm rich.

Speaker 6 (43:51):
I'm I'm a neanderthal who was like, you know, like
it honestly does feel like Saturday Night Live used to
do a bit called Caveman Lawyer. Yes, that's how great, buddy,
That is exactly how I feel as a former football
player trying to like do.

Speaker 4 (44:07):
The bifocate the corporate world.

Speaker 5 (44:09):
Oh my god.

Speaker 6 (44:09):
Yeah, they make me do training where it's like harassment
quizes or like this that and the other thing, you know,
security breaches.

Speaker 5 (44:18):
I fail all of these quizzes. It's a I mean,
I'm a disaster. What can I tell you.

Speaker 4 (44:23):
That's my favorite story of the week.

Speaker 5 (44:25):
Right there. Yeah, yeah, there you go. So I'm currently
out of the office, and if anybody's wondering.

Speaker 4 (44:31):
There you go. All right.

Speaker 3 (44:32):
So college football season win totals, so this is a
neat way to do it. So there are four teams
that have the highest win totals at ten and a half.
This is all at bed MGM. And there are two, four, six,
seven teams that have the second highest win totals at
nine and a half. Okay, so we'll go in sections here.

(44:55):
We'll start off with the ten and a half group.
So there are four teams. Are you betting over or
under ten and a half on either of these teams?
It's Oregon, Notre Dame, Ohio State, and Penn State. Now,
if you just take one team that you like the
over on the most and one team that you like

(45:15):
the under on the most, what would you tell me
out of those four teams that have a season win
total regular season right of ten and a half wins.
So we're just talking those twelve games in the regular season,
who do you like the most?

Speaker 2 (45:27):
Who do you like the least?

Speaker 6 (45:31):
So I guess I'll go with the team I like
the least first, and then I'll work backward, and so
maybe maybe I'll spend a little bit more time thinking
about which one I like the most but the least. Look,
I'm not one hundred percent sure if all of these
teams who have flipped conferences have felt the change as

(45:54):
much as I thought they would the first season around.
You know, Oregon's still very new to the Big Ten,
and it's possible that that that the reverberation of that
change in schedule hasn't been fully felt. There's a lot
of excitement, there's a lot of new and novelty that
you know, when you're talking about like the first rattle

(46:17):
out of the box. For some of these teams, they
may be able to overcome some early obstacles, but logistically
this is hard. And I look at all these other
teams in that that ten and a half win total range,
Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State. They all they I mean,
they all have consistency. I mean, outside of the teams

(46:40):
that obviously they've added and the cross country flights that
they've added as a result, you know, I mean, they
all have that consistency. So I'm gonna my knee jerk
reaction is Oregon. I trust them the least.

Speaker 4 (46:52):
Okay, I think Notre Dame's got to be an under
Sorry Brian, Wow, it's it's a tough schedule at my
Week one, then they go to then they play A
and M, who they went on the road last year
and beat them, so you know A and M wants
to go into South End and return that favor. You
got a couple of other really tough games USC. I
had Arkansas on the road, and I know Arkansas is

(47:13):
not great, but it's still an SEC team. So yeah, Like,
I think the quarterback situation is dramatically different. I think
the offensive line is gonna be good again. We love
Jeremiah Love, but I could definitely see two losses on
this Notre Dame schedule.

Speaker 2 (47:28):
Interesting, I mean, you could be right.

Speaker 3 (47:30):
What I find what stands out to me is for anybody,
for anybody who thinks that losses don't matter as much,
wins or losses don't matter as much in college football,
because they don't. We have twelve teams in the College
Football Playoff BCS era, we had two teams. If you
lost at the beginning of your season, it might be
over in terms of being one of the final two

(47:53):
teams standings. So if you feel like that, bet on
a season win total, because I'll.

Speaker 1 (47:58):
Tell you what.

Speaker 3 (47:59):
If you're on let's say Ohio State. If you're on
the over ten and a half wins and they lose
their first game at home to Texas, they can't lose
another game all year long, right, like a loss. With
these season win totals, if you're on the over, it's massive,
you know. So that's my first piece of advice is

(48:22):
if you want wins and losses to matter as much
as they once did, just bet on season win totals
either way over or under, because it's gonna matter a
whole lot more. As far as an under, I think
that a lot of these teams, these top four teams
with ten and a half win totals, I think they
have a lot in common where if you can just

(48:42):
get over, say one hurdle, all of a sudden, you're
live for eleven and one. You know, if I'm looking
at if I'm looking at Penn State, right, they get
their first tough toe their non conference schedules a joke, Nevada,
FIU and Villanova, come on, what is it? But if
they get past Oregon, that's their first Big Ten game.

(49:05):
If they get past Oregon at home, it's like you've
got at Ohio State, which is gonna be tough later
in the season. If you're on the under Penn State
ten and a half wins and they get by Oregon,
you're in a position where.

Speaker 2 (49:19):
You're like, come on, Hawkeyes, do you want to be there?

Speaker 12 (49:22):
Like?

Speaker 2 (49:22):
No, come on Hoosiers. Like someone in the Big Ten
upset this team.

Speaker 3 (49:28):
You're looking really good if you can get by Oregon,
which is gonna be a tough test. But that's the
big hurdle. That's the turning point, the fork in the
road on Penn State schedule, over or under. I lean
toward the under on Oregon schedule because when you get
a new quarterback in there, different talent that's implemented. You're

(49:51):
on the road at Penn State pretty early in the season,
and that's a hurdle game for them. They get past that,
it's manageable, but I would lean toward the under. I'm
surprised that juice is as heavy as it is with
Oregon minus one sixty on the under ten and a half.

Speaker 2 (50:08):
That's really juicy right there.

Speaker 6 (50:11):
Yeah, you know, and the college football season, you know,
speaking more generally and taking the focus off these four
games or four teams specifically, there's so much volatility, or
I should say, so much more volatility in this game
than there is in professional football.

Speaker 5 (50:29):
But then besides that, the added volatility of.

Speaker 6 (50:32):
I mean, I'm usually with these types of teams, there's
a pretty good known quotient, like you know who your
starting quarterback is going to be, by and large, you
know who some of the stars the playmakers are going
to be buying large.

Speaker 5 (50:48):
But the fact that without having real contracts in this.

Speaker 6 (50:54):
League, so to speak, in college football, the fact that
you could have a disgruntled player up and transfer out
of a program immediately and and by the way, he'll
find a soft landing spot if he's good enough elsewhere immediately.

Speaker 5 (51:09):
I mean spending your money on college football futures.

Speaker 6 (51:13):
You know, I'll ask I'll ask you this, Jared, because
you know you spend you know, you live in Vegas,
you spend a lot of time with people who put
together these these these these odds, these bookmakers. I mean,
is that something that that either a keeps people away
from futures more times than not in college football and
spend their money in the NFL, or these just as popular.

Speaker 4 (51:34):
Very popular. I think the college football win totals to
me are so I've I think I've told you guys
this before. But to me, the win totals are the
best way to bet. The futures market like the who's
gonna win the National Championship? Those bets the index markets
where there's multiple options. You can bet this team, you

(51:56):
can bet that team, Oregon, Ohio State, Texas, Pence State,
Eitherre's fifteen, twenty, thirty, forty fifty in the you know,
college football case, hundred different teams that you can bet on.
Those markets have higher hold, meaning the sportsbook keeps more
on average per dollar wager, whereas the win total market,
it's over or under, that's it, and that's a lower

(52:19):
hold market. Also less volatility because over time, right, let's
say you're betting Oregon over ten and a half wins.
Let's say you're betting Penn State over ten and a
half wins. Penn State's gonna be favored in almost every
game this year, So that's the side of the market
you want to be on. Because later in the year,
let's say when they do play Ohio State and they're undefeated,

(52:42):
you can bet Ohio State and you know that if
Penn State loses that game, you're gonna win your Ohio
State bet. If Penn State wins that game against Ohio State,
you're gonna win your Penn State over win total bet.
So there's ways that you can balance your action later
in the year that is much more efficient. Your risk
is not as risky when you're betting a win total,
whereas if you're betting Penn State to win the National Championship, well,

(53:06):
if they lose, it's done. You're screwed. You got no
chance to win. Like, if they lose that game to Oregon,
probably gonna drop in the market considerably, and their odds
of aid making the cultural Wall playoff and b being
a high enough seed to really make a run or
see just being a good team considerably go down. But
if Penn State loses that game to Oregon, they could
still go over ten and a half wins. So I

(53:27):
just think there's a lot of outs, As our friend
Bill Krackenberger will say, when you're betting a win total
compared to when you're betting a very specific high hold market,
like who's gonna win the National Championship?

Speaker 3 (53:39):
All right, we'll have to go fast here fast on
the nine and a half win teams. Okay, so there
are seven of them, and I just want one that
you like the over on the most, one that you
like the under on the most.

Speaker 2 (53:50):
Okay.

Speaker 3 (53:51):
So it's gonna sound like, well, what seven teams, So
I'll try to you know. So we got Boise State, Texas, Georgia, Miami, Alabama, Clemson,
and Liberty shout out Conference USA in the nine and
a half win territory. I like Georgia on the over
and it's juicy minus a dollar ninety. I just think Georgia,

(54:14):
it's just it's a really really talented, tough team, and
they fizzled last year. They had a backup quarterback and
they fizzled on a big stage against Notre Dame. And
maybe you're like, eh, Georgia, But getting to ten and
two with their schedule and they have a couple of
tough games, I think they can do it at one
of their toughest games is Texas at home. Think about

(54:34):
them doubling up Texas on the road last season. That's
gonna be a tough game for Texas.

Speaker 5 (54:39):
On the road.

Speaker 3 (54:40):
So I like Georgia on the over, and I don't
want to be you know, like overreacting to last season.
But I like Bama at plus money on the under.
They're at plus one ZH five. I think there's just
a lot of ways to get to three losses. Their
first SEC game is at Georgia. That's gonna be very difficult.
And then these other four games that I have circled

(55:01):
as tough games. We need two losses of these four.
Could you see this happening? You get Tennessee at South Carolina,
LSU at Auburn. That just sounds like there could be
two losses in that quartet right there, and then you
know it's life in the SEC.

Speaker 2 (55:17):
Maybe at Missouri or you know Oklahoma is tough.

Speaker 3 (55:21):
Vanderbilt upset them on the road last season, they get
them again, So I could see Bama with three losses.

Speaker 2 (55:27):
I like their under.

Speaker 6 (55:29):
Yeah, I think I like the over for Texas two
strong reasons. Why is a high talent level at quarterback,
you know, making that transition to Arch Manning, who got
some game time under his belt last season, which was
I think an integral part of his growth process, and
you could see superstar potential is unbelievably important. They pump

(55:56):
out draft picks, but roster continuity is going to help
them this up coming season, and then just scheduling. And
I would also argue betting confidence. You know, I know
that doesn't matter as much because Johnny Public can skew
that a ton and I don't know where the sharp
money's going, but Texas is an overwhelming favorite to win

(56:19):
the national championship. I feel good about Texas. I feel
less great about Boise State. I'll take the under there.
When you rely so heavily on a running back like
they did a season ago, it's man, it's hard to
bounce back from that. And I watched this actually happen

(56:40):
at the college football level with the San Diego State
as Techs when Rashad Penny moved on to the NFL.
I mean, he was everything as gingenty was and potentially
more at the college.

Speaker 5 (56:50):
Level, and it's it's hard to replace that production.

Speaker 6 (56:54):
It's easier when you have a transition at or I
should say, when you have more denuity at quarterback and
you feel good about that position moving forward. Then if
you're relying on the running back room to try to
replace that production, So I would take I feel comfortable
on the under with Boise State. I feel comfortable on
the over with Texas.

Speaker 4 (57:15):
Yeah, Boise is an interesting case. I actually hadn't looked
at Boise until we put this in the In the rundown,
They're a big favorite Week one out South Florida. Air
Force is always a tough place to play anytime you
go at altitude, although Bois's used to it, and then
they got that game at Notre Dame. I feel like
Boise is gonna be okay. Daniels is a good coach

(57:36):
and they've got you know, Madson was a good quarterback
last year. I think Boise's probably a coin flip for me.
I think ten wins probably is fair. This is an
easy one for me in terms of an over though.
I mean Clemson's Clemson's winning ten games this year. People
just accept it. Dabo is going to be in the
playoff again. It'll probably be in the ACC Championship again.
I don't know if they're gonna win it this year.
They were, they were almost almost lost it last year.

(57:58):
What a great game a game between Clemson SMU last year.
I think the ACC maybe not as talented at the top,
but I do think there's two or three decent teams.
Like I think Miami with Carson Beck's gonna they're gonna
score a bunch of points just like Miami did last year.
They're actually gonna be a carbon copy of last year's team.
I think a lot of points allowed, a lot of

(58:19):
points scored, and SMU is gonna be tough again with
Kevin Jennings and last year's a great coach. But Clemson's
got four first rounders in upfront. Defensively, I mean they
are loaded up front, especially in the front seven, and
Kate Klubnick is one of the most experienced quarterbacks in
the country. Top schedule, right, They're favored at home against
LSU Week one, and then they play an SEC team

(58:40):
their last game, their rivalry against South Carolina. They went
zero and three against the SEC last year. I think
they get one of those games against the SEC this year,
and then the rest of the ACC is relatively simple.
They do get SMU at home and they don't have
to play Miami, So I think Clemson winning ten feels
really strong for me.

Speaker 3 (01:00:11):
Yes, we are welcoming in our good friend Seamus McGee,
team lead of sports Trading at bet MGM and Seamus,
preseason NFL action is right around the corner.

Speaker 4 (01:00:21):
We get it, we get it, we get it.

Speaker 3 (01:00:23):
On as Mills Lane, you used to say on Thursday, right,
Hall of Fame game, And I just started thinking, what
type of action do you typically see the most of
in NFL preseason games?

Speaker 2 (01:00:36):
Is it the full game? Is it the first half?
Is it the total? Where is the action?

Speaker 12 (01:00:41):
Typically it's good to be back as always, and yeah,
so Hall of Fame game usually does get probably the
biggest handle of the preseason slate, just because we are
national TV. Everyone's just sitching for football to be back,
and we'll usually see kind of spread out. I think
you'll see a lot of i'd say sharper people targeting

(01:01:03):
some first half lines just because you know, you usually
have an idea of who's going to be out there
for the first half and for how long. I'd say
you probably see more money lines than i'd say spreads,
probably some totals more so than spreads too. But I
think money lines is just you just have an idea
of like what coaches really want to go, you know,

(01:01:24):
win a football game in the preseason.

Speaker 4 (01:01:27):
That's a great point. And I think the myth that
I'd like to bust, and I'm sure you're very pro
preseason being the sharp man that you are, Seamus, is
when people say, oh, if if you're betting the preseason,
you need to call the number like that is the
wrong take because I know a lot of pros who

(01:01:48):
think the preseason is actually more beatable than the regular
season because the numbers move right. It's more of a
liquid market. There's not as many eyeballs on it. And
if you are paying attention to the beat reporters, if
you are locked in with who's playing, who's thirteam running back,
who's the fourth team linebacker that's going to be on
the field, this is the one time of the football
season where you do have a little bit of an

(01:02:08):
edge over the sports books. Is that a true statement.

Speaker 12 (01:02:13):
I once read a tweet from someone on gambling Twitter
who said they would gamble on their son's T ball
game if he thought he had an edge, and I
couldn't agree more. You could have a bad NFL regular
season betting wise for years, but if you're really in
tune to say your favorite team, you know how they're

(01:02:33):
going to approach this game, you can definitely have an
edge on the sports books. This is the time of
the year where there's the most uncertainly about an NFL
game that you'll have all season. And when that is
the case, that is when you can have an edge
on the book maker. So I couldn't agree more.

Speaker 10 (01:02:48):
Amen.

Speaker 6 (01:02:49):
When you're looking at where the money is flowing in
terms of you know, longer term futures in the preseason here,
like Super Bowl odds and things like that, are there
specific teams that at this point in the season so
far have garnered the most attention, you know, maybe an
underdog or a longer shot that people are starting to

(01:03:11):
lay a little money down on because you know, I
don't know, I mean.

Speaker 5 (01:03:14):
For Super Bowl.

Speaker 6 (01:03:15):
Yeah, you could probably you could probably speculate and you'll
probably be wrong anyways. So it kind of feels like
one of those futures that you might want to take
longer odds because that money disappears and when it comes back,
maybe it comes back tenfold depending on what kind of
odds you're looking at.

Speaker 12 (01:03:36):
Yeah, so so far. I mean the most VET teams
you've had in the top five most bet teams are
you know, buying Still's Eagles, Ravens, Chiefs, So no surprises there.
But then you have a team like that I've spewed
about for reach thou as the Commanders. It's just been
a lot of Commander's money coming in. It seems to
be the pretty popular longer shot, even though the odds

(01:03:57):
are like way shorter than they were years past. But
you know, the Vikings have gotten some interesting action too.
A lot of people think that this team does have
a really high ceiling. If McCarthy can be as good,
if not better than Donald was last year. I mean,
the team is pretty deep after you look past the
quarterback position, so that's definitely a team catching some eyeballs.

Speaker 3 (01:04:18):
I'm kind of curious Sea miss the futures market, Like,
we're in the middle of the baseball season, and can
you give us an idea in comparison how the futures
market stacks up for you guys like predicting the World
Series champ If you compare that, I would imagine the NFL,
you know, greatly laps everybody with the popularity of how

(01:04:41):
much handle is generated, how much money is generated in
betts with trying to pick the eventual Super Bowl champ.
But could you kind of give us an idea what
the futures market is like in terms of the money
that you draw in say the World Series champ, people
predicting it compared to the NBA champ and the predictions
for that.

Speaker 12 (01:05:01):
The NFL futures market is one we'll see steady action
the whole way. I mean, especially on Sundays, you see
a team starting to go up big in the middle
of the game, we'll start seeing some money come In NBA,
I mean, it's a weird one because it does like
in years past it felt like, oh, like it's just
gonna be the Warriors, or it's just gonna be the Celtics.

(01:05:22):
Last year was a little different when there was a
little uncertainty. I mean, you did have the shortest team
end up winning it all with the thunder, But that's
a different one. For baseball, I will say you see
a lot of it in the middle in the pre season,
spring training, a lot of futures for that, and then
you'll start to see it ramp up around September when

(01:05:43):
the playoffs are really starting to take shape. You might
see some action come in if there's a team on
like a big like you know, eight or nine game
win streak, just you know, betting on that happening. But
I will say MLB is definitely a sport where it
really starts ramping up the closer we get for the postseason.

Speaker 4 (01:06:01):
Yeah, Baseball like and I reached this point Seamus every July,
usually right around the All Star break, where you just
you see that light at the end of the tunnel
for football and you lose that desire to really dive
into the baseball markets every day where in May and
June it's like really the only show in town on
a nightly basis, especially when the basketball in the hockey

(01:06:22):
world slows down. Do you notice a dip in the
daily game action for Major League Baseball around this time,
right when the football lights start to flicker on? Or
is it pretty hot and heavy through August in September
with baseball daily action, even when football is kind of ramping.

Speaker 12 (01:06:39):
Up preseason, you won't see as much as a dip
then you would, and then we would get to week one.
By week one, you have the college you know about
to start Week two, so that's taking some action away
from MLB. I mean, football is king. We all know this,
so as soon as it comes back, you do start
to see you know a lot of people who just

(01:07:01):
fed on baseball just because it's the only thing on
right now, But now they have football, and for especially
with college, you'll have these games every day in the
week down, So you definitely start seeing a dip around
week one from MLB action.

Speaker 6 (01:07:15):
Is there a strategy though, that you could say works
better than others? At this point in the Major League
Baseball season, like, for example, we're coming up on the
trade deadline, there's rumors flowing everywhere. You know, if you're
paying specific attention to your team and the rumors that
are hitting the mill, if you feel good about one

(01:07:36):
of those rumors, or you know, if you're early enough
to the books or to the window on a trade,
is there a way to capitalize on some early better
odds for you to find greater value or is that
something that you wouldn't suggest for a better who's paying
close attention to his team's futures promise.

Speaker 12 (01:07:57):
I mean, it all comes down to the player, the
subject of the rumor. I think right now, Enniosuarez seems
to be the best hitter available right now on the board,
and you got to think, is that a guy who
team guests and it's like that's it, Like they're going
to go to the World Series. I think I don't
know about the World Series. Market depends on the team
and the player, but I think you probably have an

(01:08:19):
edge in something like to make the playoffs, which you
know it goes down every now and then, but it's
up a lot throughout you know, August and September. You
can get odds on that. So I'd say that's probably
the market you should target if that's what your you know,
your angle.

Speaker 3 (01:08:34):
Is all right, Seamus, it is that time the shame
of special And I will tell you selfishly, I'm crossing
my fingers for a w NBA play.

Speaker 2 (01:08:44):
I just not to put any pressure on you, But what.

Speaker 4 (01:08:46):
Do you have for us?

Speaker 6 (01:08:48):
Oh?

Speaker 12 (01:08:49):
Fresh out of w NBA to the But you know
everyone's talking about, you know, preseason football. It's coming up
from Thursday. But preseason football happening literally right now, literally
this morning. I'm going to bed Life to see Everton
FC play Bournemouth in the Premier League Summer Series. So
we'll turn our attention to that. We're gonna go with

(01:09:11):
over two and a half parlayed with both teams to score.
Bournemouth lost a lot of experience at the back and
at the top, Tall and players in our back line.
I think there's gonna be goals in this and I
think Everton can nick one in the end.

Speaker 3 (01:09:23):
Okay, great stuff will take anything that makes sense, Seamous.

Speaker 4 (01:09:28):
You always delivered. I don't think I've ever bet a
preseason EPL match until today, till today.

Speaker 5 (01:09:33):
Here we go check.

Speaker 3 (01:09:36):
List item All right, Seamus, great stuff man, Hope you
have a great rest of the day.

Speaker 1 (01:09:40):
Bud.

Speaker 2 (01:09:40):
We'll catch you soon.

Speaker 12 (01:09:42):
Appreciate it. Guys, have a good one.

Speaker 5 (01:09:44):
There.

Speaker 3 (01:09:44):
He is Seamus McGee, team lead of Sports Trading at BETMGM.
It's time right now, Fox Sports Radios Countdown presented by BETMGM.

Speaker 2 (01:09:52):
Time for the tire rack Play of the day.

Speaker 5 (01:09:55):
Swung on drive to left field?

Speaker 4 (01:09:56):
Did he do it? He did?

Speaker 2 (01:09:58):
Four home runs for Nick kurts Is six for six.

Speaker 4 (01:10:04):
Oh my, a four homer game for Nick Kertz.

Speaker 5 (01:10:08):
The A's laid fifteen to two.

Speaker 2 (01:10:11):
Yeah, wow, four homers? They had what eight RBIs six runs.

Speaker 4 (01:10:16):
Believable. That's at him again today, but it's kind of hard.

Speaker 3 (01:10:20):
That's courtesy of Talk six fifty kstea's radio network. For
over forty years, tire rack has been helping customers find
the right tires for how, what and where they drive,
ship fast and free back by free road hazard protection
with convenient installation options like mobile tire installation tire rack
dot com. The way tire buying should be pretty crazy.

(01:10:41):
That's the only the twentieth for homer game in MLB history.
It's the first by a rookie. And correct me if
I'm wrong. Does it feel more like a passing? Like
oh yeah, cool man, cool bro. You know that's what
it feels like when it's a four home run game.
There were twenty There have been twenty four perfect game
in MLB history, so it's actually rarer for the four

(01:11:04):
homer game.

Speaker 2 (01:11:05):
But we might lead the show with a perfect game.

Speaker 3 (01:11:09):
But we'll just like, oh yeah, hey, by the way,
four homers from Nick Kurtz.

Speaker 2 (01:11:12):
Only rookie ever to do it. It's just like an oh,
by the way thing, Why is that?

Speaker 5 (01:11:17):
That's crazy?

Speaker 11 (01:11:18):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (01:11:18):
I think maybe the perfect game has a little more
like you know, like per like perfect, Like I think
it's the word of it.

Speaker 5 (01:11:24):
Yeah, the amount of work. Also, you know what I mean,
you're on the mound that.

Speaker 6 (01:11:28):
Entire time, all those half innings, whereas you know, Nick,
he took the plate four times, and something great happen
each time, you know what I mean, Like maybe he
may have only swung the bat four times. You know,
I didn't watch the game.

Speaker 5 (01:11:40):
Yeah, you know. So it's a lot. It's a lot
harder to throw a perfect game.

Speaker 3 (01:11:44):
You know.

Speaker 4 (01:11:44):
My favorite thing about the perfect game is is towards
the end when nobody talks to the picture in the
in the in like the dugout on like the seventh
like you know, right before they go back out for
like one of the last inning, seventh d eighth inning,
ninth inning, and like he's just sitting there in the
dugout by himself, like, yeah, he wants to go up.

Speaker 2 (01:12:04):
I'm curious what you guys think about this.

Speaker 3 (01:12:05):
I'm sure you saw the story where ESPN and the
NFL are close to signing a deal for ESPN to
purchase NFL Network and Red Zone that's for a reported
two billion dollars. Yeah, and I'm just curious what you
think of that because for me, I'm not smart enough
to foresee if that goes through what it's gonna where

(01:12:28):
it's gonna end up, you know what I mean. I
just think like very you know, surface level speaking, Hey,
we're gonna have to pay to watch the NFL.

Speaker 5 (01:12:37):
We all know this.

Speaker 3 (01:12:37):
The price is going up and up the platforms, like
where it is, you're gonna have to pay.

Speaker 5 (01:12:42):
I get that.

Speaker 2 (01:12:43):
I'm not one that's gonna whine about that.

Speaker 5 (01:12:45):
It is what it is.

Speaker 3 (01:12:46):
But I just hope that it doesn't become where these
games are on certain platforms and you have to pay
this entrance fee, and it's gotten to the point where
there are a lot of NFL fans that just don't
do it. Because that's one of the coolest things about
the NFL is we're typically all on the same page.
We all just watch the game, we all have our opinions,
let's chop it up and talk about it. But if

(01:13:08):
these games are in all these various locations and some
people are like, yeah, I don't get that section of
games and we're not talking about them the same way.

Speaker 2 (01:13:17):
I just hope it doesn't go there.

Speaker 6 (01:13:18):
But that's the way with you, Yeah, I think the
community of football is what's made it so much more. INJRO,
I would say the urgency first, obviously all these games
mattering so much, but then the community of football second
is what's made it America's pastime and really lapping the
other major sports in this country. But I have an
interesting take on this because I saw that article and

(01:13:40):
I thought, immediately, why on earth would the NFL sell
this now? Like, unless they think it's possible that they've
reached an apex, so to speak, in terms of popularity,
and they're expecting it to continue to climb potentially and
then start hitting a down shift at some point here
in the near future in terms of attention and viewership

(01:14:01):
and all those things, then why would they do this?
And one of the thoughts that occurred to me was
maybe their intention isn't to sell. Maybe their intention is,
without tipping their hand to the players, exactly how much
the league is worth, what they're trying to do is
showcase exactly how much some of the things are worth

(01:14:23):
on the open market. So if new ownership blood wants
to buy into the NFL, they can tout a higher
price tag. It's like, well, hey, look that deal fell through.
With ESPN, but they were willing to buy for this
many billions of dollars in rights packages. So that's the
reason why when the name it, I'm making something up.
But the Arizona Cardinals or the Tampa Bay Buccaneers go

(01:14:46):
up for sale, that team or a stake in that
team is worth so much more because the NFL is
that that expensive to buy into, even from a media
rights package standpoint.

Speaker 5 (01:14:58):
So maybe it's just.

Speaker 6 (01:14:59):
Getting a sawt off the praisal from the outside to
help these owners boost the value of their assets, you
know what I mean, Because an asset, it's only as
what do you call valuable as the value people put
on it.

Speaker 5 (01:15:18):
I like that theory.

Speaker 4 (01:15:19):
Actually, I'm convinced that that's a big reason why the
Lakers made the trade for Luca when they did, because
the sale was coming. How can we and that's not
artificially inflating, but if you know you're about to sell
an asset, you are trying to raise the value of
that asset considerably. So maybe there is some NFL transactions

(01:15:42):
with teams on the horizon, But I believe ESPN's getting
a Super Bowl in two years, so I think that
might also be part of this. They just want to
continue their relationship with the NFL and cement that super
Bowl coming. I think it's in twenty seven. I think
ESPN gets it's their first Super Bowl. I believe I
could be wrong on that.

Speaker 3 (01:16:02):
Yeah, well, I don't know if this is going to
go through, but it makes sense for ESPN when they're
doing the direct to consumer service have another like hey,
hey you can get this too, Yeah, you know, so
makes sense that they would try to walk down that road.

Speaker 2 (01:16:19):
So we'll see what comes of it.

Speaker 3 (01:16:21):
We've got Rich Hornberger, Penn State, All American, Jared Smith FSR,
betting analyst.

Speaker 2 (01:16:26):
I'm Brian No coming up next.

Speaker 1 (01:16:28):
Prop it up.

Speaker 2 (01:16:29):
That's right, the prop betting market.

Speaker 3 (01:16:31):
We shall compare extensive notes, maybe extensive WNBA notes.

Speaker 2 (01:16:36):
I don't know. We'll find out.

Speaker 3 (01:16:37):
It is Fox Sports Radios Countdown presented by BETMGM. It
is Fox Sports Radios Countdown presented by BETMGM. Used code

Speaker 2 (01:17:07):
All right, let's do this.

Speaker 1 (01:17:11):
Prop it up player plays all.

Speaker 3 (01:17:15):
Right, the prop betting market. Jared, we start with you.
What's something you like?

Speaker 4 (01:17:19):
Yeah, I'll go to my hometown team today and I'll
focus on the New York Yankees, who get a new
hot stick in the lineup. Ryan McMahon making his Bomber's
debut lefty lefty matchup today against Ranger Suarez. However, he
does have really good career numbers against Suarez, five for
thirteen lifetime two home runs. Of course, the lefty lefty

(01:17:40):
splits can be weird sometimes, but McMahon, when I was
looking up his career numbers, he's batting about the same
against righty's compared to lefty, so you don't see this
wide gap. Usually lefties sometimes they batting one hundred points
lower against lefties and right He's only thirteen points lower
two forty four against righty's in his career two thirty
one against lefties. Obviously significantly more at bats against right
to pitching, but Suarez has kind of had his moments

(01:18:02):
this year where he's been up and down. Really high
scoring game yesterday between these two teams. Plus one thirty five,
over one and a half hits runs and RBIs her right.
We want to get paid for when players do their job.
Zach flyes, lock run scored. All of those things count
for this prop market. So Ryan McMahon over one and
a half her hits runs on RBIs plus money making

(01:18:23):
his bomber's debut.

Speaker 6 (01:18:26):
Okay, I'm going to go to the w because Brian,
know you were really laying laying on Shamus Hard to
get us some WNBA props or picks today and he
went EPL preseasons.

Speaker 5 (01:18:40):
So check this out, key key boy.

Speaker 6 (01:18:44):
I'm gonna struggle with the last yea yeah, ira a Fin,
thank you, thank you, Irefin. Over the last five games,
she's been over her rebound totals in each of those
games except for the very last one against Las Vegas,
So I'm gonna go with the Mystics forward with over
seven and a half rebounds, the performance suggests that she

(01:19:07):
should clear this comfortably, So yeah, give me the over
on the rebounds pop for Kiki Heafy.

Speaker 2 (01:19:13):
Okay, she has been a rebounding machine, no doubt about that.
So I definitely get where you're coming from.

Speaker 5 (01:19:19):
Rich.

Speaker 3 (01:19:19):
I'm gonna go with the rebounding market for the WNBA
as well. And you might want to get really crazy
and try to thread the needle here. But Sparks at
the Liberty today, So check this out in terms of pace,
Liberty number one in pace, Sparks number three in pace.

Speaker 2 (01:19:36):
So they're gonna be moving, They're gonna be.

Speaker 3 (01:19:38):
Going quick, a lot of shots, a lot of rebounding opportunities. Now,
I love my girl, John Quelt Jones. She's a really,
really talented player. She's back as the center for the Liberty.
She had an ankle injury, missed a bunch of games.
She's finally back. She might be on a minute's restriction, huh,
says second night of a back to back for the Liberty.

(01:20:00):
So if she's playing your normal minutes, I would love
over eight and a half rebounds, she probably will not be,
so under eight and a half is live for John
qwell Jones. And then who's gonna pick up the rebounding slack?
If that's the case, well, I look to Stuwie Rihanna
Stewart over six and a half rebounds. I think is
a solid play, and you might want to get a
little saucy Sabrina Sabrini Ynescu over four and a half rebounds.

(01:20:24):
That's plus money at plus one twenty, So keep that
in mind as well. With John Qwell Jones possibly on
a minute's restriction. I think a couple of those plays
are more than live. You got a trio to pick from.
Just pick your combo platter of choice there if you'd Likeay,
I like it.

Speaker 5 (01:20:40):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (01:20:40):
How about Nick Kurtz over one and a half herds
plus one ten today?

Speaker 11 (01:20:45):
Can he go?

Speaker 4 (01:20:45):
Can he do it again?

Speaker 6 (01:20:46):
Oo? Oo?

Speaker 5 (01:20:48):
Can you be with four more home runs?

Speaker 4 (01:20:50):
He doesn't need four home runs, he only needs a
base hitting an rbhid we get this sucker home at
plus one ten?

Speaker 2 (01:20:55):
Hey, man, what do you have? Eight RBIs? Who was
six for success?

Speaker 4 (01:20:59):
He had like thirty hers last night?

Speaker 2 (01:21:03):
Yeah, they mentioned his total basis. I think he might
have had it was like nineteen or twenty.

Speaker 4 (01:21:08):
Total base That's a good month for some guys.

Speaker 5 (01:21:10):
Oh my god.

Speaker 4 (01:21:12):
For home runs, that is.

Speaker 3 (01:21:14):
Insanity, man, that's that's pretty crazy Hunter Brown going for that.

Speaker 4 (01:21:17):
Yeah, that's a tough matchup today. I was looking at
the nerfy in that game. I think the nerfy in
that Blue Jays Tigers game was in there too. Good,
might hear that later?

Speaker 2 (01:21:25):
All right, coming up next.

Speaker 3 (01:21:27):
It's refreshing that this time there aren't comparisons to rob
our Joy. Oh what is going on? Happy Saturday to you?
No comparisons to rob our Joy. We'll get to that
in a few seconds. Hey, you can stream the show
in all of our Fox Sports Radio shows Live twenty
four to seven and the new and improved iHeartRadio app.

(01:21:47):
Just search Fox Sports Radio and the app to stream
us live. And one of the newest features in the
app is that you can select Fox Sports Radio as
one of your presets, just like the presets on a
radio dial.

Speaker 2 (01:21:57):
So be sure to preset Fox.

Speaker 3 (01:21:58):
Sports Radio in the iHeart Radio app and it'll always
pop up at the top of your screen. Okay, so
you've heard before that comparison is the thief of Joy, right.

Speaker 2 (01:22:09):
I'm sure you've heard that before, and there's a lot
of truth to that, you know.

Speaker 3 (01:22:14):
I was just thinking about Scotty Scheffler, who just won
another major, won the Open Open Championship.

Speaker 2 (01:22:21):
You have to say it like that.

Speaker 3 (01:22:22):
I think he won the Open Championship or i e.
The the British Open. Right last week. He's got four majors,
and he was asked about these comparisons between himself and
Tiger Woods. And listen to what Scotty Scheffler had to
say about that.

Speaker 13 (01:22:39):
I still think they're a bit silly. You know, Tiger
won fifteens, it's my fourth. Could just got one fourth
of the way there, So just I mean, it's I
think Tiger stands alone in the game of golf.

Speaker 2 (01:22:53):
Okay, so you know Scotty downplayed it for sure.

Speaker 3 (01:22:56):
There is a stat out there, pretty interesting right where
Scheffler won his fourth major one and ninety seven days
after he won his first major, and Tiger Woods won
his fourth major one one hundred ninety seven to the
day that he won his first major.

Speaker 2 (01:23:17):
That's insane, that's really crazy.

Speaker 3 (01:23:18):
But I mean what I take away is you'll hear
a couple of things like, hey, is Scotty getting closest
to Tiger Maybe not the same or on the the
same path, but is he the closest to the dominance
of Tiger you'll get that, but you don't have these
comparisons that sort of steal the joy out of it, right,

(01:23:40):
Like I couldn't help but think, and I don't.

Speaker 2 (01:23:42):
Want to do Lebron versus Jordan.

Speaker 3 (01:23:44):
That's not what I'm aiming to do here. But for
the longest time, with Lebron, it's like angry face. Yeah,
but he's not Jordan. You know, there's not that with Scotty.
There isn't this He's not Tiger, you know, this angry face.

Speaker 2 (01:24:00):
Yet it's not like that.

Speaker 3 (01:24:02):
So it's a lot more refreshing that there isn't that
comparison that's always just robbing your joy. I'm glad that's
not the case with the Scotti Tiger. Like, oh, by
the way, comparison, that's really all it is. It's nothing
that we harp on at all. So I find out
to be a lot more refreshing.

Speaker 5 (01:24:19):
I agree with you.

Speaker 6 (01:24:20):
I think that when you're a fan of a player,
and anytime you express your your interest or your whatever,
your love, even because I do think that emotion isn't
inappropriate when we're talking about sports conversations.

Speaker 5 (01:24:37):
People fall in love with players.

Speaker 6 (01:24:41):
Having somebody immediately shout you down because he's not as
good as player X, or yeah, well he never won
championships like player X. It's like, okay, hang on, what
does that have to do with my admiration for what
this player has done? And by the way, that admiration
is subjective, maybe you're not even basing it off of

(01:25:04):
the fact that Scotty Scheffler is so great. Maybe you're
basing it off of an interview that you love to
listen to and how he bounces family life and being
a golfer and.

Speaker 5 (01:25:14):
The PGA Tour. That's a tough life. That's a tough
life to balance a lot of the personal with the professional.
Or maybe you love.

Speaker 6 (01:25:23):
Scotty Scheffler or any athlete because you know, maybe you
had a personal interaction passing through the airport, you went
to an actual tournament and he signed a golf ball
for you, Like you're absolutely right, Brian. Like this culture
we live in, and I think it's somewhat fueled by
social media debates that have become way, way a way

(01:25:44):
bigger part of how we communicate about sports, where we
have to shout down somebody's opinion like it doesn't matter
because player why isn't as good? As player X is
such a foolish waste of time and breath and energy.
I appreciate the way Scotty Scheffler handled this because, frankly,
why make your story Tiger Woods story? Make your own,

(01:26:09):
make your own story. And and I also like the
fact that he said, hey, you know, I'm not even
near the same platitude yet. And guess what I mean,
this is objectively now, he's one hundred percent right. Maybe
the trajectories look similar, but man, the end result to.

Speaker 5 (01:26:27):
Get to where Tiger got.

Speaker 6 (01:26:31):
The Hey, isn't even halfway in the barn here, like
he said, it's only a quarter of the way in
the barn.

Speaker 5 (01:26:35):
That's a long way to go. So I really like
how Scotty handled the question.

Speaker 4 (01:26:40):
I he's really done a lot of work on himself.
When I watched the interview last week before the open,
whenever that was I forget. I get my weeks blended
together now, and he was basically saying, yeah, you know,
we're more than our job, and you know a lot
of times we you know, get wrapped up in this.
And and just his ability to step back from the mayhem,

(01:27:02):
I mean, being a professional golfer, and I don't think
it's the hardest thing to do in sports. I think
it's maybe second or third. I think hitting a baseball
round ball, round bat ninety five miles an hour sometimes
it's coming at your head. I think that's the hardest
thing to do in sports. I think the second hardest
thing to do in sports, and this is up for debate,
is consistently hit a golf ball long and straight and

(01:27:22):
then shape it the way these guys do. It's incredibly difficult,
and it takes so much time and energy focus just
to do that well. And you have no teammates unlike
other sports that can help you along the way. It's
just you and the ball and the hole and that's it.
And I thought for him to be able to step
back and say, we are so much more than this job,

(01:27:42):
and I know it consumes us, and just his ability
to do the work on himself. To have that self
awareness I think is paramount in sports because a lot
of these guys, you have to have that almost toxic
masculinity like confidence through the roof to be able to
compete at this level. I think he has this kind
of softness in this emotional depth to him that allows

(01:28:04):
him to look beyond the game and himself and anything
he says that is like on that level, I'm with
him because I can feel that frequency coming through when
he speaks, and there's no comparison to him and Tiger.
There isn't. Tiger took the game to another level at
a time in Gulf where there wasn't a transcendent player.

(01:28:24):
There was a lot of mess. There was a lot
of kind of mediocrity. Right, this is post Arnold Palmer.
This is really post Jack Nicholas. This is mid to
late nineties when you know Ernie Els and these guys
are like the best players, maybe not as you know,
as strong personalities as Tiger was. And then this brash,
exciting player comes in who's racially diverse, like it just

(01:28:47):
it changed the sport in such a way because of
his athleticism and the way he approached his preparation. Scotty
is on that level, but he's not the first person
to bring it to that level. And that's where I
think he's not even close to Tiger. And it's not
a knock on Scotty. I think Scotty is the best
player in the sport right now. But Tiger is such
a generational talent and you know, bringing the sport to

(01:29:10):
a different level of awareness on the national stage. I
think there's no comparison.

Speaker 2 (01:29:15):
Well, that's true.

Speaker 3 (01:29:16):
I think it's what you focus on, right if you
look at the whole Enchilada, as you threw out there, Jared, Like, yeah,
there's a difference there if you're just looking at dominating golf.
There are some comparisons there between Scotty and Tiger. And
we just threw out the stat of the same span
between their first and their fourth majors, like to the

(01:29:37):
day is pretty crazy. And the amount of tournaments that
Scotty has won and the amount of majors he's won
in a short span, like, he's absolutely dominating golf right now.
So there are some things that you could say, Okay,
that's not the craziest thing to mention, Hey, is this guy,
you know, dominating to a.

Speaker 2 (01:29:56):
Comparable level as Tiger did.

Speaker 3 (01:29:58):
I don't think that's out and to say, but I
will say this is what I do know is Scotty
has certainly downplayed the comparisons. That wasn't Lebron's approach at all, right, Like,
and I don't think anyone's at fault.

Speaker 2 (01:30:11):
I'm not saying, hey, look at Scotty. That's the way.
It's just different.

Speaker 3 (01:30:15):
Scotty has downplayed it that that's not He might literally
think that, like, that's pretty ridiculous to compare me to Tiger.
And he tells you his reasons why Lebron did not
run away from that at all. If anything, he amplified it.
This was this was after the three to one comeback
against the Warriors, which was unbelievable, and he's in Cleveland.
They won a championship, and this is what he said

(01:30:37):
on more than an athlete.

Speaker 2 (01:30:38):
Check this out.

Speaker 14 (01:30:39):
This is very different than Scotty super super ecstatic the
win one for Cleveland because of the fifty two year drought,
Like I was ecstatic, like obviously show that the first
wave of emotion was when y'all everyone saw me crying,
like that was all for fifty two years, everything the
sports have gone on in Cleveland.

Speaker 5 (01:30:55):
And then after I stopped, I was like.

Speaker 14 (01:30:59):
That one right there, made the greatest player of all time.

Speaker 2 (01:31:01):
Now that's what blows my mind.

Speaker 3 (01:31:03):
Now, Now think if Scotty did this seriously, and let's
try to make it as as comparable as possible. So
that was Lebron's third championship. Jordan has six.

Speaker 4 (01:31:14):
We all know that, So.

Speaker 3 (01:31:15):
Imagine if Scotty got halfway to Tiger's major's total, Like
it's an odd number with Tiger with fifteen, So imagine
if Scotty, let's say he got to his eighth major
and it was this traumatic comeback. He won the Masters
in epic fashion, and then he goes on some show
and he's like, yeah, I sat back and said that

(01:31:36):
one right there made you the great.

Speaker 2 (01:31:37):
There'd be a lot of people.

Speaker 3 (01:31:39):
That would say, uh no, it didn't know, it did not,
And Lebron has chased that for a while, man, and
I think that's what amplifies a lot of the reaction,
and it's an overreaction. There are a lot of people
that haven't enjoyed Lebron's career because they're so hell bent
on saying he's not better than Jordan. It's a great point, right,

(01:32:00):
And I just I'm glad that we're not there with
Scottie because it's it's just gets old, so fascinating.

Speaker 2 (01:32:06):
He's not Tiger. We know that we don't have to
harp on that. We can just enjoy Scotty for who
he is.

Speaker 6 (01:32:12):
People love humility with athletes, because athletes are the closest
things we can we can really connect to to, you know,
getting sort of like picked out of the clear blue
and be given an opportunity, you know what I mean. Like,
don't get me wrong, obviously, and having you know, lived
that life, it takes an incredible amount of discipline and sacrifice,

(01:32:35):
and there aren't there aren't really any easy days if
you want to try to be the best or compete
at the highest possible form of sport, like, there just
aren't really very many easy days. You got to constantly
think about it. You have to be obsessed by it.
You you miss out on a lot. Now those sound

(01:32:55):
like complaints, they're not. Those were willing and well accepted
exchanges that I made and so many of my friends
and peers made to have that life. But the problem
is when when you lack humility, then everybody feels like, well,

(01:33:18):
that's the lottery winner who is pretending like they always
had it, you know what I mean, That's the guy
who scratched off the right number on the right ticket
in the right convenience store or the correct deli or
sandwich shop. And all of a sudden, you're gonna act
like you've always been there like like you know better
than us, You're no better than us, You're just us.

(01:33:40):
You just you know, we're you know, And this is
I'm telling you, this is the mentality. You just happen
to be six foot three. You got lucky because you're
tall enough for you just have rich parents who could
afford green fees at the country club.

Speaker 5 (01:33:54):
You went to Scottie.

Speaker 6 (01:33:55):
You know, you're just lebron Well, you're six foot eight
and two hundred and seventy pounds. If I were two
hundred and seventy five pounds, I would be an NBA
champion too. It's like that's that's where that's where fans
will turn on the lucky Lotto winner when they start
talking like they always had it, because.

Speaker 5 (01:34:15):
That's why sports are beautiful.

Speaker 6 (01:34:17):
Because look, I mean, anybody in my high school, I
guess could have gone to the NFL.

Speaker 5 (01:34:22):
But I was the lucky one.

Speaker 6 (01:34:24):
It was a combination of my height and my attitude
and my athletic prowess and maybe some genetics and a
ton of hard work and great opportunities and good coaching.
And I caught a ton of breaks and I didn't
get in trouble that one night, and I got good
enough grades, and I had good enough parents and a
good enough support system and teachers who believed in me,

(01:34:44):
and coaches who encouraged me, and friends who bought into
my dreams also, you know, and pushed me. Like there
were so many things that added up to an NFL career.
If you start talking like you've been there the whole time,
even those people who.

Speaker 5 (01:35:00):
Helped you along the way will turn on you.

Speaker 6 (01:35:03):
And so humility is important to remember when you're in
that position, and Lebron James lacks it at times, Scotti
Scheffler does not.

Speaker 4 (01:35:11):
Yeah, I would honestly credit Rich's success during his college career.
He had this crazy fan would scream his name from
stands night job a pie dude. It would just be like, yeah, Rich,
we love you, man, And then I would go back
to my hole and watch the highlights of how awesome
the Penn State was during those years. Those are fun games, bro. Yeah.

(01:35:34):
You use the word humility, I'll spin it towards the
gratitude direction. That's a word that I've been very invested
in lately because a lot of so this word came
to me very recently in real life form when I
injured my hand. So I just had a little dog
incident about a month ago where Jackpot got into a

(01:35:55):
tiff with a poodle at the dog park and I
was trying to separate him in the pit Jackpie. My gosh,
it was a big poodle. It was one of those
oversized ones. But yes, advantage jack Bot was a heavy
favorite in this fight. He won the fight, but I
got bit, you know, I was trying to separate them,
and the poodle bit me, and so my hand was injured.
For a couple of weeks, I couldn't work out as

(01:36:18):
as hard as I've been working out lately, and I
remember thinking to myself, Man, I wish I could go
to the gym today and lift weights. And that's where
like that gratitude element comes in, because a lot of
times we take these things for granted, waking up and
just going to the gym and you know, lifting your
weights like normal you do every day, and I couldn't

(01:36:38):
do it for like two weeks, and you really remember, oh, man,
I'm very grateful that I can wake up today and
go to the gym, Like when you get that ability back.
That's how I wish Lebron would have handled that interview.
I'm so grateful that I get to be the one
to deliver a championship to the city of Cleveland, that
I get to be the one to wake up and

(01:36:59):
know that my efforts and my hard work helped Cleveland
get that championship, and and that like, that's all you
have to say, and everyone's gonna love you for it.
That last line is a throwaway line that's probably been
rattling around in his head for years because he wants
to chase Jordan and because he's probably been being told
his whole life that you're not good enough unless you

(01:37:21):
get to that peak that Jordan got to, when in reality,
just being grateful that you can play professional sports at
the level that you're at and bring a championship to Cleveland, frankly,
is enough for everyone that follows you. But these athletes,
they're they're they have different brains in certain ways, like
they're they're built differently than than we are, and you know, mentally,

(01:37:43):
and especially the elite of the elite athletes, because they're
just constantly chasing that that carrot. And I think after
it's all said and done, I hope Lebron will have
a little more gratitude for the situation. Like Scott he
has learned. Like Scotty, had some tough, tough times man
like those, he had some really interesting moments throughout the

(01:38:04):
course of his career, didn't start well and then came
on really strong over the last two years. Then, of
course the incident in Kentucky where he was arrested very
wrongly so and that kind of threw it. But he
handled that really well, you know. I mean a lot
of people would handle that very differently to be like,
you know, incarcerated unfairly, even though it was a very

(01:38:26):
short period of time. So that level of gratitude and
humility is very rare in professional athletes, but Scotty has
it well.

Speaker 3 (01:38:34):
I'll just say real fast, I think it's awesome that
Lebron was never shy about chasing Jordan. I think that fundamentally,
just chasing greatness is a great thing. But the weird
twist is some of the comments that he's made have
not landed well at all. I have not done himself
favors at all because he's trying to knight himself. Basically,

(01:38:57):
you don't see anyone like themselves can't knight yourself. The
goat like other people knight you the goat, you know,
but fundamentally just chasing Jordan, not being scared of that whatsoever.
I actually admire Lebron for being crazy enough to have
that goal and and really want that and strive for it.
I don't think there'd be anything wrong with Scotty trying

(01:39:19):
to chase down Tiger.

Speaker 2 (01:39:20):
I would have no problem with it.

Speaker 3 (01:39:22):
But he might make a couple of Lebron esque statements
that you're like just lands rung and again he's chasing Jordan.
He's chasing this like Paul Bunyan, adored player, you know,
and he's knighting himself the goat. It's just not gonna
land well. But I don't think fundamentally chasing greatness is

(01:39:42):
a bad thing at all.

Speaker 12 (01:39:43):
I just.

Speaker 4 (01:39:45):
Yeah, right, just chase it, use it as your internal fuel.

Speaker 3 (01:39:49):
Chase it and refrain from, you know, referring to yourself
as the coach.

Speaker 12 (01:39:54):
You know.

Speaker 2 (01:39:55):
Yeah, that's a that's a that's a big part of
the process right there.

Speaker 3 (01:39:58):

action in five days, how we'll have real football ish, right,
real football. Maybe not the first teamers out there, but

(01:41:18):
we will have real football in five days from now.

Speaker 2 (01:41:21):
So I thought, if we.

Speaker 3 (01:41:22):
Look at the two teams in that game, Chargers taking
on the Lions, we're not looking at the preseason game Lions. Well,
I mean we could if you want to U Sikos,
you know, if you have an angle at that, great,
But I was thinking about the real season because if
you look at player prop bets, season win total bets,
all that type of stuff, these two teams are incomparable

(01:41:45):
positions first off season win totals Chargers at nine and
a half, Lions at ten and a half. Do you
like the over or the under with either of those Lions?
With those two teams, Lion's one number again.

Speaker 2 (01:42:00):
Ten and a half, Chargers have nine and a half.

Speaker 6 (01:42:03):
Man, I hate to say I like both overs, but
I do like both overs. I think the Chargers are
one of those teams. I'm buying their stock because I
believe in Jim Harbaugh. I believe in that process. I
think they've improved in so many ways roster wise. And
I also I'm really curious how Justin Herbert responds, being

(01:42:28):
arguably the most talented quarterback Jim Harbaugh has ever coached,
and that's including Andrew Luck. Now, Andrew Luck, you can
argue Is would be a more coveted player in his
prime than Justin Herbert. But I still think the story
has yet to be written for Justin. So very curious
how this pairing works. And then in terms of the

(01:42:49):
Detroit Lions, man that division that it can be had.
You know Jordan Love injured last season. Will see how
the bounce back looks this year to start the year
at least. And then you look at the Vikings. It's
a new test at quarterback for them. We did not
see what the rookie last year was gonna look like. Yeah,

(01:43:12):
I'm buying both the Chargers in the Lines this year
from a win total standpoint.

Speaker 4 (01:43:18):
I'm more neutral on the Lions because of the coordinator replacements,
especially Ben Johnson. Oh yeah, that's huge. And the positive
though is they have an insane schedule in terms of
rest advantage. The Lines are the first team in NFL
history to play five opponents coming off a Monday night game.
I have to play a short week. They're gonna play

(01:43:39):
eight games at a rest advantage this year, and I
know some people are kind of up and down on
how much rest really matters. I'm more up on it,
especially later in the year, and especially teams coming off
Monday night games having to play on Sunday. Those are
very difficult situations, especially when there's travel involved. So I

(01:44:00):
think that is a positive for Detroit. But a negative
is the fact that they had an They won fifteen
games last year and they still couldn't win a playoff game.
So I just I don't know if we saw the
peak of Detroit last year. The Chargers on one hundred
percent on the under this year. Very welsh on the Chargers. Yeah,
you want to hear the most Chargers stat? Ever, Oh,

(01:44:22):
they would have finished with the second best record in
the league last year if the games ended after the
third quarter. No other team trailed in fewer games entering
the fourth quarter than the Charger.

Speaker 3 (01:44:32):
There were a couple of fifteen to two teams, right,
So that's yeah, that's quite the stat right there.

Speaker 4 (01:44:37):
It is, and that is peak Chargers. The Justin Herbert
fourth quarter drop off needs to be studied. I don't
understand how it's possible for a quarterback of his talent,
even under Harbaugh last year, like sixty six dropbacks last
year in the fourth quarter of one score games out

(01:44:58):
of twenty nine qualifying quarterbacks, Herbert twenty fifth in accuracy,
twenty fifth in success right, Like, it's just I don't
understand it. And maybe this year they have Omarian Hampton
more of a running game. Maybe they'll lean on that
running game more. Maybe the fourth quarter numbers improve. They
certainly can't get worse. But if you are a quarterback
that only shows up for the first three quarters of
a football game, I cannot bet on you to go

(01:45:19):
over your win total, especially after they had a really
good year last year when nobody expected them to make
the playoffs and they went to the postseason, and then
what happened in the fourth quarter of that game against
the Texans, whoof So I don't know if LA can
overcome that. I do like Harbaugh as a coach. I
think he's installing a culture. I like the draft pick

(01:45:41):
of Hampton. I think that's gonna help the fourth quarter statistics.
But justin Herbert's got to pull his head out of
his tookes when that quarter hits number four or else
the Chargers are really gonna have a problem on their
hands going forward.

Speaker 3 (01:45:52):
I love these season win totals because oftentimes you can
make great arguments on both sides. Sure you know whether
you're on the old or the under. The Lions are
a great example of that. I think at ten and
a half, I mean, they're they're supremely talented. They had
injury bug misfortune to the nth degree last year. I

(01:46:14):
just doubt lightning strikes to the same degree this season,
you know what I mean, And so that would favor
the over. Now what favors the under is they have
a freaking brutal schedule. Their road schedule, in particular, there
are no layups, not one, not one favorite at the
beginning of the season. We'll see how the injury bug,

(01:46:34):
you know, changes things with them and their opponents, but
no favorable matchups, no layups on the road all season
long to begin the season. That could favor the under
as well. I think of this though, one thing that
makes me lean toward the over. If anybody can handle
a rough road, it would be the Dan Campbell Detroit Lions.

(01:46:55):
And even if they go let's say they go eleven
and six, you would hit the over ten and a
half that way, that would still be a four loss
decline from last season. Think about that, right, your four
losses worse if you go eleven and six. That's how
good they were last season at fifteen and two. So
I would lean over for Detroit. But hey, man, I

(01:47:17):
get the counter argument. I sometimes these lines are misleading.
Ten and a half it's almost like a sales price,
you know, where I don't know if the uh you know,
the granola bars, if they're you know, ten sixty two,
that lands differently than nine to ninety nine, you know
what I mean. It just say so ten and a
half seems like, oh wow, that ten and only ten

(01:47:39):
and it's like they got to get to eleven. Man,
you gotta get that right in the forefront of your brain, like,
don't be like, I don't know, seduced into thinking, oh yeah,
ten and a half, bro, Yeah, eleven, that's that's that's
a different ball.

Speaker 2 (01:47:55):
Relax, Yeah, right, that's the number. That's right.

Speaker 3 (01:47:58):
How about the player props Jared Goff Justin Herbert exactly
the same passing yards for this interesting thing, three thousand,
eight hundred and fifty and a half.

Speaker 2 (01:48:10):
They always have and a half. What do you think they?

Speaker 3 (01:48:13):
Goff went way over over forty six hundred, Herbert barely
over thirty eight seventy. He cleared it by about twenty
yards nineteen if you want to be completely accurate, but
thirty eight to fifty you like the over or under
for golfer Herbert.

Speaker 6 (01:48:30):
I like the under for Herbert. I like the over
for Goff. I feel strongly that the Chargers are aiming
to be a play action passing team. A lot more
moved the pocket stuff, a lot more pass being set off,
set up by the run game, a lot more of

(01:48:52):
getting the ball out of justin Herbert's hands more quickly
than having him hold the ball and massage the pigskin
while he's under duress.

Speaker 5 (01:49:00):
I mean eventually injury.

Speaker 6 (01:49:02):
Injury already has slowed him down, but I'm talking about
major injury.

Speaker 5 (01:49:05):
It's coming for him if.

Speaker 6 (01:49:06):
They don't do a better job either helping him preserve
himself or getting the ball out of his hands faster,
or highlighting the run game, which is something we know
Jim Harbaugh wants to do anyways. And then, in terms
of golf, new coordinator, super talented cupboard and cast of characters,
to season the stew with in terms of receivers and

(01:49:27):
capable running backs in the passing game and tight ends.

Speaker 5 (01:49:30):
I think they're going to throw the ball a lot
more in Detroit.

Speaker 4 (01:49:33):
I'll go under on both.

Speaker 2 (01:49:35):
Yeah, so.

Speaker 4 (01:49:37):
I'm a hater. Well, the single most profitable long term
player future has been passing yard unders over the last
four years. They're hitting it seventy percent. Seven out of
ten quarterbacks state under their season long passing yard prop.
You better have a pretty damn good reason if you're

(01:49:58):
betting over on one of these quarterback. There's so many
more outs for the under, injuries, you have a big
lead in the fourth quarter, so many ways to win
the under compared to the over. You've got to thread
that needle perfectly. If you want to make the case
for Herbert. It's Greg Roman who did a really good
job last year getting the passing game going early. So

(01:50:20):
the Chargers were the fifth highest team in terms of
early down pass rate last year in the first quarter,
seventh highest in the first half. Greg Roman did a
great job establishing the pass not only on early downs
but also out of heavy sets. The Chargers led the
NFL in usage of twenty personnel. You don't see that
personnel too often two running backs, zero tight ends. They

(01:50:42):
were also fourth highest than twenty one personnel two running backs,
one tight end, and they passed it more than fifty
percent of the time out of those personnel grouping. So
it's really unique to see Greg Roman kind of move
the pieces around where we're gonna show you two tight ends,
two running backs, one tight end, and then we're gonna
throw out of it. I think that that is how
you get Justin Herbert engaged in the game early, and

(01:51:03):
Greg Roman's done a good job of that. For Jared Goff,
the Lions are a running team. Now they lost Rag,
now they lost some pieces. I think that's gonna hurt them.
But the Lions' identity is run the ball first, foremost
all the time. Like that's their culture, toughness, grit, determination.
I think the Chargers are getting towards that culture as well.

(01:51:26):
But I think Herbert has a little more polished to
his game maybe at this point than Jared Goff, although
that might not be fair to say after how I
just knocked him in the fourth quarter. I think both
quarterbacks have their positives and negatives, but I think both
teams are going to be run first offenses next year,
but on early downs the Chargers might be a little
bit more aggressive. I would lean slightlyan if you have
to bet over on one of the guys, I would

(01:51:47):
lean over on Herbert, But I wouldn't be shocked at
both guys stay way under the total. Man.

Speaker 3 (01:51:53):
The goth thing is pretty interesting where the one thing
you do have to consider the injury bug and the
interioror offensive line.

Speaker 2 (01:52:01):
Right, it's just different.

Speaker 3 (01:52:03):
Frank ragnow retired, as you said, Jared Kevin Zeitler has
gone in free agency, So that interior line, those three dudes,
if you get pressure on Golf up the middle, he's
not a gazelle back there, and he struggles with pressure
up the middle. So hey, maybe I don't want to
even throw it out there, but hey, maybe that leads

(01:52:23):
to the injury bug. Maybe, But man, that guy he
cleared his passing yardage, this same passing yardage number thirty
eight to fifty. He cleared it by almost eight hundred
yards last season. With this being a running team and
all that, he cleared it comfortably. Especially so to be
under is man. It can happen, don't get me wrong,

(01:52:44):
But got some work to do to get on the
under over there by the way real fast. I just
wanted to throw this at you too. So Aaron Rodgers,
we were talking off air, Bo Benson, trusted producer Chris Purfett.
We're talking off air, like we're reading into these training
camp practices way too much, and have you.

Speaker 2 (01:53:03):
Noticed the trend growing here?

Speaker 3 (01:53:05):
So Aaron Rodgers, he threw an interception on his first
pass in training camp on Thursday. He was intercepted by
Patrick Queen, and I love his quote. He said, it's
good to get that out of the way. Anybody that's
watched me practice over the years, you like to try
certain throws at certain times, and this is the best part.
And anybody that's watched me in the games knows I've

(01:53:26):
been pretty stellar taking care of the football over the years,
which is true, absolutely true. But peak ego Aaron was great.
But he's right, like, we gotta take this. We got
to consider the context of interceptions. In training camp, you're
gonna be working the bugs out, you're gonna be trying

(01:53:47):
certain things that you don't try in games. So this
idea that we're just reciting stat lines and reading into
it fully, like, oh, this is a clue when the
real games kick off here. A lot of time it
is not, and a lot of times we're just football
obsessed and we're looking for something to react to and
it's not something that you really want to build an

(01:54:09):
opinion or a great reaction on. I feel like there's
way too much of that going on these days.

Speaker 5 (01:54:15):
Completely agree, And look, it's hard.

Speaker 6 (01:54:19):
It's hard for a lot of folks to remember what
it's like to practice, right, Like, because if you think
about it, practicing is something that you typically only do
when you're a kid. You know, you go to dance practice,
you go to football or basketball practice, if you weren't
an athlete, maybe band practice. You know, like, there's a
lot of practice when you're kid, and then when you

(01:54:40):
become an adult, you stop practicing, and so you forget
what that experience is like. But practice is where you
do take risks, you know. And I mean even if
it's like with a trumpet or a clarinet, like sometimes
you try to play something faster than you're comfortable playing,
or you try to play something over your skill set
because you have a recital coming, And boy, wouldn't it

(01:55:02):
be cool, wouldn't impress my music? Teacher, if I could
do this, you know what I mean, Like, if you're
a track kid, you know, and it's a high jump,
maybe you set that bar way higher than you would
at practice than you do during a tournament or an event.
My point being that as adults, we assume automatically, especially
if you're a sports fan, that like, what you see

(01:55:23):
at practice is what you're going to see during the
game or the regular season, And it couldn't be the
farthest thing from the truth.

Speaker 5 (01:55:29):
You always work on stuff at practice.

Speaker 6 (01:55:31):
That's how you create a better and easier game reality
because it's it's it's where it's where it's acceptable to fail,
you know what I mean. It's where you won't get
hurt or you won't hurt a teammate where you fail.
So yeah, I mean, even though he delivered it in
a cocky way, Aaron's right, He's right.

Speaker 5 (01:55:50):
There's no doubt he's right. Ignore it all.

Speaker 4 (01:55:53):
The practice stuff is irrelevant. As long as guys are healthy.
That's the only thing I care about his injuries.

Speaker 3 (01:55:58):

Top of the Hour up on Game LaVar Arrington, DJ Hushman, Zada, Plaxico, Buris.
They have got you covered ten minutes from now. Keep
it locked right here on Fox Sports Radio. All right,
we got some picks to make.

Speaker 2 (01:57:28):
Let's do it.

Speaker 1 (01:57:32):
Rapid fire.

Speaker 2 (01:57:34):
All right, Jared Smith, you start us off over here
with something you like.

Speaker 4 (01:57:38):
Well, I'll give you this trend during the platter and
I will double down on it here and rapid fire.
So seventy six extra innings games went nil nil since
twenty fourteen. This is last night, Diamondbacks Pirates zero zero
in extras Arizona won the game won nothing, so the
under in games later on in those series after a
zero zero extra innings game, the under is thirty one

(01:58:01):
seventeen and four since twenty fourteen. That's sixty five percent.
Really strong trend of the under. You get Merril Kelly
against Andrewhiny today, I'm gonna back that trend even odds
plus one hundred on d Backs Pirates under eight and
a half. I will double down on this game, and
I'll give you the Diamondbacks on the money line in
the first five. Again, this could be Merril Kelly's last
start in Arizona. I guess technically it's in Pittsburgh today,

(01:58:25):
but for Arizona, and I don't love Andrewhiny like of
the two guys that I'm betting this under on. He
he's the one that scares me for the most blow
up potential, and I think Arizona after winning last night.
The trend also says the team that wins a one
to nothing game in extra innings tends to win the
next game in the series as well. So I'll go
d Backs money line in the first five and the
Phillies money line on the first five against the Yankees today.

(01:58:46):
There are problems in the Bronx. Aaron Judge elbow issue
not in the lineup today, yikes, and Rangersuarez has been
really good, Marcus Stroman not great. Phillies on the money
line in the first five minutes.

Speaker 6 (01:58:57):
Wow, we have overlap on two and we're head to
head on one of these. I think the over is
gonna hit Diamondbacks pirates today. That eight and a half
run total. The pitching matchup, I just you know, what. Honestly,
I think it's going to be a competitive game, scoring
on both sides, so it's out as Mills Lane would

(01:59:18):
put it. Yankees, I'm gonna take the plus one and
a half on the run line, even if they lose,
even without judge, I think this is one run game
all day long. And then Guardians, I'll take the minus
one and a half on the run line. They're installed
as a small underdog in this divisional matchup today, I'm

(01:59:39):
gonna say they're gonna benefit from run support against a
middling royal staff.

Speaker 5 (01:59:44):
So give me the minus one and a half on
the run line for Cleveland.

Speaker 3 (01:59:49):
Okay, I like my baseball picks. You tell me if
I'm crazy or not. So the Blue Jays, I took
him on the money line in the parlay pladder. I'm
gonna take them on the run line. Gimme plus one
and a half Blue Jays at the Tigers. Now, Kerk
Scouble is going for Detroit, all right, he's phenomenal, but

(02:00:10):
the Tigers are ice cold. They can't score runs right now,
and you've got Toronto that they're leading the majors this
month sixteen and four. Tigers have lost eleven of twelve,
So I'll take the run and a half. You know,
we got to keep it within one. We still lose
if we're the Blue Jays. I think they at least

(02:00:31):
do that. It's picked up a bit. It's minus one
p fifty, which is the cusp of what is acceptable
here in rapid fire juice, if you will. I don't
know if I'm missing something here. The Rays are freaking
terrible right now. They're tied for the worst record in July.
They're six and thirteen. They're at the Reds today, and

(02:00:52):
we've got We've got the stud going for the Reds
and Andrew Abbott, and the Reds are minus one twenty five.
It seems like a too good to be true, but
I'll take it. I'll take the Reds minus a dollar
twenty five could be a sucker bet, who knows, and
I'll roll with Stewie. I cannot fade my girl, John

(02:01:13):
Quell Jones. She might be on a minute's restriction. I
like under eight and a half rebounds, but I'll take
Stewie over six and a half for my final play.
