Speaker 1 (00:00):
Are you ready to witness football?

Speaker 2 (00:03):
Fans?

Speaker 1 (00:04):
Welcome to the biggest tailgate party in the nation that

Speaker 2 (00:24):
Let's go.

Speaker 1 (00:25):
We're here to break it all down. Look, this is
Fox Sports Radios Countdown to Kickoff, presented by bett emg App. No,
we're live from your tailgate. Here's Brian Nook, former Penn
State All American, Rich Hornberger and FSR betting analyst Jared Smith.

Speaker 3 (00:45):
Oh what is going on?

Speaker 4 (00:46):
Happy Saturday to you as we have ball galore. Man,
I'll tell you what. Good morning, Jared, Good morning, Rich,
Hope all as.

Speaker 5 (00:55):
Well, Horner, Good morning everybody.

Speaker 4 (00:58):
It's kind of funny, right like, uh, we'll get into
you know, ripping the band aid off with the un Lions.

Speaker 5 (01:08):
You know what, Bro, I'll be honest, they're dead to
me again. I've them today, I know, I.

Speaker 2 (01:15):
Know, I never heard of them.

Speaker 3 (01:17):
Yeah, it's a good drop.

Speaker 5 (01:20):
That was a good drop, Chris.

Speaker 4 (01:21):
But I also feel like our guy, Chris, you know,
shout out to him. Chris Purfett, Technical Producer, extraordinaire. You
know he greets me. I always, I always, for whatever reason,
I either go yow or why app Those are my
two greetings for Chris him with the YO this morning,
and he was just like yo. It was kind of

(01:41):
like that, like someone had had punched him directly in
the stomach, which is exactly what happened last night. Unfortunately.
You know, this guy is all about Detroit and a
fifteen inning game winner. Take Hall, the Mariners, take it.
And I just thought of you as soon as I
heard Chris.

Speaker 6 (01:58):
You know.

Speaker 7 (01:59):
You know what the worst part is, I got in
this morning and someone jacked one of my energy drinks
I had in the fridge. Oh so, like I am
up late, I'm up late, getting my heart ripped out,
and now someone else has committed a crime against me.

Speaker 4 (02:10):
That's cheez, that is that's the worst timing possible.

Speaker 2 (02:14):
I would I would call the police, honestly, I would.
I would open an investigation.

Speaker 4 (02:21):
It's a factory of sadness here between you guys and
your Nitney Lions and over it and Detroit over it.

Speaker 3 (02:28):
You know, we got to get some stuff going in
our direction over here.

Speaker 2 (02:31):
You know, we need to win. We need to win.

Speaker 5 (02:34):
Play Northwestern today. All will be well to blow out Northwestern,
and if they don't, I don't want to be in
the are you imagine just imagine if they go down
seven to nothing and it's like three and out on
the first drive. I mean, and it's home coming. I
have a bunch of friends that are in town this
week and happy ballot. It's it could get bad.

Speaker 8 (02:55):
That's what I did last week, Jared I said to myself.
I was like, well, the Nittney, for sure, they're gonna.

Speaker 2 (03:01):
Blow out UCLA.

Speaker 5 (03:02):
They stink.

Speaker 8 (03:03):
I mean, they're favored by close to twenty five points.
I was talking so much mess I was like, Oh,
let's throw it on the parlay platter and you might
even see it on rapid fire.

Speaker 2 (03:11):
We put it.

Speaker 5 (03:12):
I put it in a rapid fire. I think we
all we go collective O nine last week.

Speaker 4 (03:16):
Yeah, Oh that's wow, only one way to go. But
up right here, rapid fire was a disaster. The parlay
platter was a bloodbath. We were just wrong. We were
way way wrong.

Speaker 2 (03:29):
Way wrong.

Speaker 3 (03:30):
We rallied this week. But I do have it's related
to Penn State.

Speaker 4 (03:36):
But I do have a question that's not solely about
the Niitney Lions.

Speaker 3 (03:40):
I was just thinking about this.

Speaker 4 (03:41):
Where if you look at if you look at the
preseason AP poll, Okay, you had Texas number one, Penn
State number two, Clemson was number four, all unranked. Now right, like,
and now you get teams like Miami, Oh, Miss, Texas A,
and m all those teams are in the top five.

(04:03):
So do you think it's more of a good thing
or more of a bad thing that this is the
landscape that we have Texas, Penn State, Clemson, brand names, pizzazz,
all unranked, and now we've got Miami, Ole, Miss, Texas A,
and m It's topsy turvy in terms of say the
top five, top ten in the A People, you think

(04:24):
that's a good thing or a bad thing for college football?

Speaker 2 (04:26):
I think overall, parody is good for all sports.

Speaker 8 (04:30):
Now, I will also say this, and this may sound
hypocritical based off of what I just said.

Speaker 2 (04:36):
People, they naturally gravitate towards.

Speaker 8 (04:40):
Dynasties and villains, like I think Nick Saban and Alabama
being in the top five and winning national championships or
parts of two decades is actually a good thing. I
think that if we want to look at other sports,
you know, having the Patriots dynasty or a completely different
sport altogether, the Golden State Warriors dynasty. Like those things

(05:03):
are good for sports. However, you need to have the
deck shuffle up a little bit underneath some of those
consummate good teams that everybody's trying to pop off against,
because if you don't, you have situations where you're sitting
around in South Bend, Indiana, or State College Pennsylvania, or

(05:28):
you know, you're somewhere in South Beach, Florida, and you're thinking,
when is it our turn?

Speaker 2 (05:33):
You know, so you need some level of parody.

Speaker 8 (05:36):
So overall, I do think it is good to have
a complete reshuffling of the top five, the majority of
the teams being out.

Speaker 5 (05:45):
I agree, But I also think the bigger takeaway for
me is the preseason polls are just completely worthless, completely worthless. Like,
for example, your top five right now is Big ten ACC,
Big ten, SEC, SEC, State, Miami, Oregon, Ole, miss A,
and m Like, that's not a crazy top if it's
not like we're in you know, cuckoo land here with

(06:07):
that top five, Like those are all really good teams,
right those are all teams that we expected to be
in the mix. At some point this year, especially Wow
State defending national champs. Miami gets Carson Beck. Oregon was
undefeated last year, Ole Miss has Lane Kiffen A and
m was good until that late loss, and you know,
they had a chance to get to the SEC Championship game,

(06:27):
got upset late and then just kind of missed the boat.
Those are all teams that were in the mix. And
then Oklahoma brings in John Mattier. Indiana was in the
playoff last year. Bama looks legit. I think the one,
okay where they come from is Texas Tech right in
the top ten. You're like, okay, that kind of came from,
you know, out of nowhere. But they spent a boatload
of money in recruiting in the offseason and get these
kids in. So I think the bigger takeaway here is

(06:50):
stop caring what the AP preseason poll or just the
AP pole in general is telling you. Wait until the
games start, watch the games of absorb what you're seeing,
and then reevaluate accordingly. Let's be honest. After the first
three weeks of the year, when Penn State played you know,
Southwestern Dakota State, and you know, a bunch of nobody's

(07:11):
they didn't look that hot. They didn't look that hot.
Clemson didn't look that hot. Right out of the gate,
you thought maybe there was a little bit of uncertainty there.
Texas scored a touchdown one touchdown in the opening game
against Ohio State. Archs was you know, chucking it all
over the yard and not in a good way. So
once you got that first glimpse of those top teams,

(07:32):
you're like, hmm, maybe they're not so good. But because
of the preseason anointment, we were hesitant to change our
opinions because we view the ap pole as gospel for
some reason.

Speaker 3 (07:44):
It's not.

Speaker 5 (07:45):
It is absolutely not. Do I think Penn State and
Texas deserve to be in the top twenty five in
terms of talent and where they are as a pedigree's program, Yes,
but not in the top five.

Speaker 4 (07:57):
Yeah, Listen, it depends on the perspective here. If it's
the perspective of say like ESPN, which is really running
college football, I don't think the suits that ESPN would
have preferred it to work out the way that it has.
Like if you could give them Texas brand name, arch

(08:19):
Manning right, Penn State, like, can they finally do it?
James Franklin Clemson with Dabbo, We've got equity there. I
think that's more of a sellable college football playoff than say,
like like Miami's got some pizzazz, but Ole Miss you
got Lane Kiffen and Okay, in Texas, A and M.

(08:40):
They play a fun style of football. But that's not
that's not like football royalty right there with A and
M like a true blue blood like oh man, this
sells itself.

Speaker 3 (08:51):
That's not what it is.

Speaker 4 (08:53):
So if you're looking at it from ESPN's perspective, they
would absolutely much rather have Texas Penn State than Clemson
not fall off, be in the top five still instead
of teams like Ole Miss and A and M. I
think it's interesting what Rich said about parody, and you
think about how many years was it, you know, before

(09:13):
we got to the twelve team playoff, it was Bama, Clemson,
Georgia sprinkling some Ohio State and wake me when it's
the final four.

Speaker 3 (09:21):
You know that's what it was gonna be.

Speaker 4 (09:23):
And for so many years it was so obviously predictable
and it wasn't exciting. It was just like these other
teams really don't have a shot. And now that you
know nil has come, that portal has come, and now
you get a topsy turvy, top five, top ten. I
think overall that's good for college football. The funny thing
about that is like Texas is like a team on

(09:46):
the come up, right, They're a team that's trying to
break through Penn State, trying to break through Clemson, trying
to regain where they once were. So it's not your
typical Bama Georgia repeat, rinse repeat.

Speaker 3 (10:00):
It wasn't like that.

Speaker 4 (10:01):
So I think from ESPN's perspective, they would much rather
not have it play out the way that it did.

Speaker 2 (10:07):
Well yeah, yeah, you know, for a broadcast dollars standpoint.

Speaker 8 (10:11):
Okay, So when you think about if I am, for example, ESPN,
and logistically I want to know based on the schedule
about where we're gonna be for college game day for
the rest of the year. You know, you can look
ahead and you can make some pretty firm predictions right now.

(10:32):
But I mean, already there has been so much change
up at the top five that I'm sure there were
a couple of games in Austin they were eyeballing and
they went, yeah, yeah, no, we can't do that, right,
You know what I mean, they already made the trip
to state college. And I'm sure there are some people
over there in production going.

Speaker 2 (10:51):
Thank goodness because they stink now.

Speaker 8 (10:54):
But my point, going back to parody, really that is
good for sports. But you also fans. They like the
comfort of what I like to describe in sports as
mile markers. Like when you're giving somebody directions and they
don't have a map, what do you say. You say, Hey,

(11:15):
go through two traffic lights, and then you're gonna see
the big red barn on your right. It's Alabama. You
can't miss it. You're gonna make a left at Alabama, okay,
and then you're gonna go about four or five blocks down.
The reason why I'm being less specific is because you're
gonna see the water tower.

Speaker 2 (11:32):
That water tower is Georgia. You're gonna make a right
at Georgia. And like that.

Speaker 8 (11:38):
Gives people comfort when you kind of know predictability.

Speaker 2 (11:42):
People like it.

Speaker 8 (11:43):
Now, not everybody does, and I think you could get
tired of the same thing for breakfast every day.

Speaker 2 (11:50):
But you get my point.

Speaker 8 (11:51):
And this season has been so unpredictable that I think
it's throwing some folks loop, But overall, I think it
is better for college football, and NIL has everything.

Speaker 2 (12:01):
To do with it.

Speaker 5 (12:02):
Yep, I totally agree. I think we need to and
I said this. I feel like I've said this on
the show a million times about the changing landscape of
the playoff and all these other things. You need to
be comfortable being uncomfortable when it comes to college football.
These teams. I mean, the first of all, they're kids.
It's hard to wrap our heads around that sometimes, especially

(12:24):
the older that I get, and these kids all stay
the same age. I mean, that's just, you know, very unsettling.
But they're eighteen to twenty two year olds like they're
I guess, in Diego Pavia's case a little bit older.
Some of these other kids are.

Speaker 2 (12:36):
A little bit older.

Speaker 5 (12:37):
But for the most part, on average, they're like nineteen
years old, and they are they see it all, they
hear it all, like they're on the internet. They read
about what people are saying about them. And go back
to when you if you're listening to the show and
you're in your forties or you know you're older, go
back to when you were eighteen and you were in

(12:59):
college and you were trying to make sense of anything,
like it's just the world's weird, Like I think in general,
this sport is becoming incredibly valiatile on a day to
For example, last night, Washington and Rutgers gained over one
thousand yards, but they didn't go over their total because
they had like five drives where there was like, you know,

(13:20):
seventy yards in a turnover. We saw the wash of
the USF North Texas game last night score almost a
hundred points.

Speaker 3 (13:27):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (13:27):
Like, it's just every week in this sport you are
going to watch something that you're like, Wow, I cannot
believe that that happened. And it's only going to get
more and more intense as the cross pollination of rosters continues.
And it is unique that we do have now a

(13:49):
top five of all Power Conference teams that are kind
of not where we expected them to be. I agree
that is unique in a sense because we're only seven
weeks into the year and all these teams are kind
of outside of the top five heading into the season
for the most part. But at the end of the day,
any team in a big conference that has a big
budget with nil potential has a chance to be in

(14:13):
the mix every single year. It is not like what
Brian said, where it's Bama, it's Georgia, it's Ohio State,
and that's kind of it. Maybe you get one wildcard
team in there. That is not the current climate of
college football. You have to get comfortable being uncomfortable when
it comes to what we expect, Like we use the

(14:33):
preseason rankings as this cozy little blanket like these are
the good teams and all the other teams from the
back have to work their way at No. Honestly, I
think you can probably do a top fifty and all
of those teams are kind of all in the same mix.
Obviously there's halves and have nots, but any of them
could catch a spark and then get into the mix.

Speaker 2 (14:54):
Indi enda.

Speaker 5 (14:54):
I think it's the best example of that. Like they
can really turn things on a ted today if they
go to Eugene and win.

Speaker 3 (15:00):
Well, I'll just say real fast.

Speaker 4 (15:02):
Remember when in the NBA for four straight years it
was the Calves in the Warriors in the NBA finals.
That just wasn't interesting to me. It was literally like
you just wake me up when it's the same two
teams in the finals again, Like that's really where we were.
And in college football it was the same thing. It
really was you had teams you could you could write

(15:23):
in Penn to be in the four team college football Playoff,
and it's not like that now. And I think overall
that is a great thing for college football. If you
get into the specifics of this particular year, ESPN probably
see it differently, but big picture, just as a college
football fan, as a junkie, I love where it is
now compared to where it was. Those like Calves Warriors

(15:46):
college football years not as interesting as where it is
right now. So I would say thumbs up from that perspective. Hey,
we're off and running. We've got Rich Orenberger, Penn State
All American, Jared Smith FSR betting analyst.

(17:04):
BETMGM across all socials at BETMGM. All right, we got Bama,
we got the Mazoo Tigers over here, and how about
this little bit of movement this morning? Now Bama is
favored by three and a half, so it was just three.
Now it's three in the hook. So Miszoo the home
dogs plus three.

Speaker 3 (17:24):
And a half.

Speaker 4 (17:26):
And I said, just a couple of minutes ago, will
the bullies get bullied?

Speaker 2 (17:29):
Now?

Speaker 4 (17:30):
This isn't your typical like Nick Saban Alabama Juggernaut over
here right like, you know, towering above most teams in
talent defense, just wreaking havoc over it's not the same
right here. So there's still Bama. There's still a top
ten team, There's still a bully compared to Miszoo. But

(17:52):
will Bama the Bullies get bullied today? Because Missouri plays
a smash mouth style the way they run the ball
yards after contact, So that's the question. The first thing
is will the Bullies get bullied? Is Bama gonna get
punked by Missouri?

Speaker 2 (18:09):
Who what?

Speaker 4 (18:09):
They got shut out last year? They're looking for some payback.
They did have some big injuries last season. But the
Maszoo Tigers, this would be a huge step up in
weight class for them. If they're able to take down
Bama at home today, yeah they would.

Speaker 8 (18:24):
But if Bama's ever been primed for the plucking, it's
this year. Jam Miller obviously helped stabilize an overall really
poor rushing or I should say poor rushing offense for
Bama over the course of the early portion of the season.
They haven't looked like Alabama offensively, and then you look

(18:46):
at their defense. Their defense has been really poor on
the ground. The commodore is Vanderbilt. They were able to
get over eight yards per carry against Alabama. Obviously there
were some explosives mixed in there. Alabama is in Alabama,
and I don't think that necessarily has everything to do

(19:07):
with coach debor. I don't think that has everything to
do with a steep drop off in talent. I think
there are other complicating factors here, and I think part
of the reason why Nick Saban left when he did
is because he saw some of this coming down the pike.
Other teams in the SEC are going to catch up.

(19:27):
Other teams around the country are going to catch up.
There's going to be more parody what we were just
talking about. With a playoff expansion, it's going to be
harder for teams like Alabama to compete on this national stage.
After all, they play in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. You gotta want
to live there for four years of your life. That's
what you're signing up for when you go down there,

(19:49):
even with a sweet nil deal. So I think athletes
are being a bit more choosy about where they want
to live. And you know, money changes a lot of things.
So I get back to the this game, if there's
if there's a year and I will get to Missouri
and why specifically maybe they can bully the bullies. But
if there's ever a year for Alabama to be knocked

(20:11):
off by a lower, lowly SEC team, this feels like
the year.

Speaker 5 (20:18):
Yeah, this isn't. I mean, I think there is a
matchup in this game that I do favor Missouri. I
do think they're front seven is legit, Like they run
this four to two five scheme. It's kind of wonky.
They're not great in the secondary though, like when I
watched them on tape. So I dove into the South

(20:38):
Carolina game this week and they beat South Carolina by nine.
It was the week that Lenora Sellers was really banged
up and he didn't practice much. Still through for over
three hundred yards, and there were receivers just running buck
wide open in the second. It was And these are
very inexperienced South Carolina receivers. They're not Isaiah Hortons six

(20:59):
foot for Alpha X, Jeremy Bernard probably the best receiver
on the team, and Ryan Williams probably the best slot
guy in the country. So that caught my eye. And
I do think ty Simpson's kind of getting overlooked here.
I honestly think neck up, he's probably the best quarterback
in college football right now. And maybe I'll eat my

(21:20):
words today, and if that's the case, I'll come back
on the show next week and I'll say I'm wrong.
But I think we're gonna look back on this year
and be like, wait, we only had to lay three
points against Missouri with Bama hmm, like wow, that was
a gift. I felt the same way about the Florida
State game. I think we're gonna look back on this
year and say, Wow, how did Florida State beat Bama

(21:40):
by two scores? That was a weird result. I think
Bama might might have now with jam Miller getting back
on track last week against Vandy running for six yards
of carrying a buck whatever, this offense for Bama might
have found their final infinity stone because Tyz Simpson is

(22:02):
shredding it right now into tight windows. I mean, I
know that it took every ounce of that game to
get past Vandy last week in terms of the spread,
but the defense shut out the Commodorees in the second half,
and I think it was by design that they allowed
seven yards per carry, because when I watched Vandy. The

(22:22):
one thing that was different this year was they were
actually getting explosive throws down the field, and Kane Wamick,
the Alabama defensive coordinator, backs off play zone coverage, keep
everything in front of you, So they said, hey, listen,
if Vandy has to go eight to ten plays dunk
and dunk five yards, six yards, five yards, I think
at some point they're gonna make a mistake, and they did.

(22:45):
They turned it over twice in the red zone, and
I think all of the yards given up by Bama
last week were kind of Okay, you can have the yards,
but you're not gonna score, and they didn't in the
entire second half zero So I feel like this is
kind of the corner for Bama where they've kind of

(23:06):
been sleeping a little bit, even though they went on
the road and beat Georgia, which no one's done in
six years. And now they get a spot where everyone's like, wow,
only three points spread against Miszoo, like how good is
Bama this year? And they win by thirty and you're like, oh, wow,
Bama's really good. We need to take them very seriously.
It feels like this might be that.

Speaker 4 (23:25):
Game, you know, It's funny to me because I think
you could play this game with both teams where if
you say they're not great in filling the blank, the
other team can easily exploit that. Where if you think
about Miszoo, like you just said, Jared, not great in
the secondary, and it's like, it's not the game to
be not great in the secondary where you're facing Ty

(23:46):
Simpson and a really talented trio of wide receivers. Not
a great time to be not great in the secondary.
I also look at Bama not great against the rush, Jared.
You mentioned the Florida State game. Florida State shreded Alabama,
and you look at Mazoo what they're doing with this
ground game with Matt Hardy and Prabulah can get after

(24:09):
it as a like a dual threat running quarterback. They've
got a great one to two punch in terms of
running backs. Not a great time, not a great time
for Alabama to not be peak Bama against the rush.
So I think with both teams, Bama against the rush,
Mazoo against the pass, in this specific matchup, you know,
styles make make fights, and this is not a great

(24:32):
matchup for either team. The areas they're not great in
the other team is great in and can easily exploit
those weaknesses.

Speaker 2 (24:41):
Yeah, I agree.

Speaker 8 (24:42):
Ty Simpson obviously can throw that ball around the yard.

Speaker 2 (24:46):
We've seen that, and then likewise Mott hardy.

Speaker 8 (24:49):
If you want the facts to back up what Brian
no is saying right there, he has the highest grading
college football on Pro Football.

Speaker 2 (24:58):
Focus in terms of elusiveness.

Speaker 8 (25:00):
He has forced forty six mixed miss tackles over one
hundred and six carries. I mean, the guy can flat
out make him miss, and so they've got a high
success rate against uh when they're running these these these
man blocking schemes in their run game, which basically means

(25:22):
instead of being responsible for a zone or a gap
in a zone blocking scheme, you're told, as you know,
whatever the offensive tackle and offensive guard to the playside
on power, you are double teaming that guy back to
that linebacker. Ready break, you know, Like that's that's the
type of offense that Missouri wants to get to, and

(25:44):
oddly that's exactly what Alabama has struggled against in the
past on the ground.

Speaker 2 (25:50):
When you go against teams who are to your.

Speaker 8 (25:53):
Point, Brian, trying to bully them, they they shrink, They Cower,
whereas in the past that was always a strength. You
can't run the ball on Bama. They're gonna get aggressive
on third down. They're gonna force you into negative plays.
They're gonna generate them both in the pass rush but
also TfL is in the run game. They're not doing

(26:13):
that this year, so they can't control the games the
way they used to. Now they have a better shot
of it with jam Miller being back and turning the
run game around. But we'll see, We'll see how this
one pans out. I mean, oddly, even though the line's
moving in Bama's favor, I still like Missouri with the

(26:34):
points I mean, only furthers the case for me.

Speaker 2 (26:36):
If you know, if.

Speaker 8 (26:38):
People love Bama, it's only gonna sweeten the deal for
the to take the Tiger side.

Speaker 2 (26:43):
So that's my feeling on this game.

Speaker 8 (26:46):
I obviously you don't know the outcomes, and that's why
sports are so fun and also so frustrating if you're
a sports better.

Speaker 2 (26:53):
But I don't trust Bama. I just don't trust him
this year.

Speaker 5 (26:57):
Yeah, okay, I'm I think I'm on the other side
of I don't trust Missoo. I mean Missoo's first of all,
Missouri doesn't even play a road game until next week.
They have not left the state of Missouri yet. It's
we're in October here. I personally, I never trust a

(27:18):
college football team until they go.

Speaker 3 (27:20):
On the road.

Speaker 5 (27:21):
I just I need to see you do it away
from the cozy confines of your home state and your
home stadium. That's why Bama's win at Georgia was so
impressive for me. That's why I trust Bama. If you
can go between the hedges and beat a team that
hasn't lost at home in six years, I have full
faith in your ability to go to Columbia Missouri for

(27:43):
a sleepy eleven am central kick and handle your business.
The running game for Missouri is legit amat Hardy. They run,
they Eli Drinkowitz. It's a wide zone scheme. They will
stretch and stretch and stretch, and then foot in the ground,
Boom gone, and it is off to defend bo Prabula
might be better than Drew Aller, I he me might.

(28:04):
The Penn State might have picked the wrong guy quarterback.
I don't know for sure yet, but it's possible. That
run game definitely scares me. I think I'm at the
point now in Florida State season and Bamas season where
I am willing to push that data point to the
side and say it could be an outlier because of

(28:24):
all of the time Florida State had to prepare for
that matchup. It was the first game of the year,
it was a weird rain delay, Bama still was in
the game, it just didn't quite go their way. Again,
I think when we look back on the season, we
might look at that game and kind of say, yeah,
that was the hiccup for Bama. But the rest of
their campaign's been pretty solid. The defenses Missouri has faced

(28:47):
this year outside of Central Arkansas, which don't really have
much data on them, Kansas, Louisiana, Lafayette, South Carolina, UMass.
The only defense in the top fifty against the run
on is Kansas. They're forty first, Lafayette one tenth, South
Carolina seventy eighth, U Mass one oh six. So again,

(29:07):
how good is Missouri's run game. They haven't faced a
team with a pulse. They faced one legit team, Lenora
Sellers South Carolina, who was not practicing all week and
they were at home. So it just I think I
think we need to pump the Brakes on how good
Missouri is now. Maybe Bama's not all hot and hot

(29:29):
to trot. It's fair they haven't really shown you their
best yet. But those wins at Georgia and against Vandy
are better than any win that Missouri has this year.
So I think with a tight line, I just I
gotta take Bama in this spot.

Speaker 4 (29:45):
It's about time. You know, Jared and Rich but it heads.
It's normally me in Rich butting heads.

Speaker 3 (29:52):
You know, I like this. I'm just sitting back with the.

Speaker 5 (29:56):
Regulus decide the vote here. Well, I mean, you know,
I have to pick the game, but you can give us.

Speaker 4 (30:00):
Some like like Rich said, you might see this in
Rapid Fire later in the show. You might see a
little bit later he just picks the total. You're right,
give me over, Yeah, take the easy way out. It
is Fox Sports Radios Countdown to kick Off, presented by
Bett MGM.

Speaker 3 (30:19):
Let's dive into this show.

Speaker 2 (30:21):
Countdown hes watch.

Speaker 4 (30:27):
All right, so little Heisman landscape, if you will, if
you look at the odds, and we won't give you
like the nine hundred guys that have odds, We'll just
give you the top. So Oregon quarterback Dante Moore. He's
the leader right now on bet MGM. He's five to
one to win the Heisman, followed by Miami quarterback Carson
went Carson Beck is six to one. I guess I'm

(30:49):
just conditioned to saying Wentz after Carson. You know, no, no,
Carson Beck.

Speaker 5 (30:53):
Carson Wentz Verismovie, one hell of a bet.

Speaker 3 (30:56):
It'll be one hell of a story too.

Speaker 5 (30:58):
Yeah, good eye, North Dakota State reincarnated.

Speaker 3 (31:01):
Maybe how about eight to one?

Speaker 4 (31:03):
My guy, Jeremiah Smith lurking the great Ohio state wide receiver.
Also Ty Simpson, Bama quarterback. They're both eight to one,
followed by John Mattier, who might be giving it a
go today. We'll get to that with the Oklahoma quarterback
against Texas broken hand, seventeen days removed from surgery. He's
trying to go today. He's ten to one for the Heisman.

(31:26):
So as it stacks up right now, you know, go ahead,
Jared Rich, feel free. I'm throwing a fastball right down
the middle. Go ahead and crank this thing. Who do
you like at this stage of the season.

Speaker 8 (31:38):
Well, I'll tell you this game we're about to watch
is going to matter a lot in Oregon and Indiana.

Speaker 2 (31:46):
I mean, you have the.

Speaker 8 (31:47):
Ducks hosting the Hoosiers, and if this goes the way
of Indiana, all of a sudden, Fernando Mendoza's name is
going to skyrocket up this They need one of those
wins where you can hang your hat on it for
Mendoza's Heisman race to really materialize here. And then also,

(32:11):
you know, conversely, Dante Moore, I'm not saying it seals
it for him, but if Oregon is a great team
this year and he has two top ten wins on
his early season report card, Dante Moore is most likely
going to sail toward the Heisman unless you know they're
winning in spite of his poor play.

Speaker 2 (32:32):
Down the stretch.

Speaker 8 (32:33):
And obviously you never can account for injuries, and you
hope that all these guys stay healthy. I will throw
in something here, though, If Indiana wins and it's not
necessarily the Mendoza show and all of a sudden we
have a little bit more of a reshuffling in the
top five of the Heisman race, that does avail a

(32:56):
better opportunity in my opinion, for a wide receiver like
Jeremiah Smith, who arguably is playing for the best team
in the country, potentially the best team in the country
to emerge as the favorite at some point this season
if there isn't like a surefire quarterback to point to.
But man, is this a big game for Mendoza? This

(33:16):
could really so Okay. If you're asking me, like, if
I had two hundred bucks and I wanted to make
a play on Heisman, like that was my unit for
and I was given too, I would I would put
one hundred on More, I'd put one hundred on Mendoza,
and I would say, I'm taking my five to one odds,
and I'm taking my what was it, fourteen to one

(33:38):
whatever it is with Mendoza, and I'm taking the average
of those two and I'm saying, well, I feel good
about one of them making a real strong case here
today to win the Heisman if their team has continued
success for the rest of the season, and I'll take
those reduced odds whatever they end up hovering somewhere around
nine to one instead of fourteen to one if I

(34:00):
put the full two hundred on Mendoza, or you.

Speaker 2 (34:03):
Know, five to one, if I put the full two
hundred on Dante.

Speaker 5 (34:06):
More, Yeah, I think Brian not the Burster Bowl, But
I don't think Jeremiah Smith's gonna win it this year.
I don't. I think the reason that I don't think
he's gonna win it is because I think Ohio State's
defense is too good, Like can we give the heisman
to Ohio States defense? Like They're not gonna need Jeremiah
Smith to go bananas. And that is I think the

(34:29):
reason why he has a lesser chance to win this
not to say he can't win it, I just don't
think he's going to win it because of that reason.
Dante Moore absolutely right in the mix. Carson Beck absolutely
right in the mix. I mean, do I have to
tell you that if I Simpson goes crazy today that
he should be the favorite company next week? Like give

(34:49):
me a quarterback that has three better wins than at Georgia,
at Maszoo Vandy this year. Like Carson Beck, I think
has a conversation for it. And yes, Dante more definitely
deserves to be in that conversation. If Indiana wins today,
Mendoza might be the favorite come Sunday morning, But if
Ty Simpson shredched today, I think he's the guy. I
really do. I think it's it's it's Simpson, it's more

(35:11):
it's Beck, it's Mendoza. Maybe if Indiana wins. But to me,
that's kind of where the list ends. I just don't
think Matier is gonna play enough. I don't think he's
getting Frank. I don't think he's gonna play today. I'd
be I mean, i'd be shocked if he plays the
whole game today. I don't know how he's playing today.
But that's kind of where I feel like the list is.
You know I'm at right now, I've got four quarterbacks
on my list.

Speaker 4 (35:30):
I just think the road for Oklahoma is so difficult.
It's obviously tied to your win loss record. I think
a little bit too much me personally, but that's the
way it goes with the Heisman voting. I just don't
see Oklahoma. There have so many land mines coming up there.

Speaker 5 (35:45):
When we're thinking about more to Dylan, Gabriel didn't win
this last year and they were Organ was undefeated. That's
another thing that's like, WHOA, how did that happen?

Speaker 4 (35:53):
Well, Dante Moore has been special so far, and uh,
I get why he's the leader in the clubhouse right now.
The thing with Carson Beck he's been really good, but man,
that Miami running game, the Miami defense, it's sort of
like what you're saying with Jeremiah Smith, where the rock
star of that team probably not Carson Beck. To this point,
it's not like he's been prolific or something like that.

(36:15):
So I don't know that he's gonna win it. I
still think the one thing with Jeremiah Smith that you
can say about him that you can't say about anybody else,
he's the best player in college football. So if he
has a couple of electric days, he could I think
he's absolutely still alive to win this thing. All Right,
We've got Rich Orenberger, Penn State All American, Jared Smith
FS our betting analyst. I'm Brian No coming up next.

(36:36):
The parlay platter can't be worse than last week. You know,
I think we might be hitting this thing this week.

Speaker 3 (36:41):
We'll compare notes coming up.

Speaker 4 (36:42):
It is Fox Sports Radios Countdown to Kickoff presented by BETMGM.

let's do this.

Speaker 1 (37:21):
Check this out, ar lad letter.

Speaker 3 (37:24):
Okay, the platter.

Speaker 4 (37:25):
We each have one selection for you. We pull it
together for a huge payout at least this week. That's
what we're doing. We start with you, Jared Smith.

Speaker 2 (37:33):
What do you like?

Speaker 5 (37:34):
Well, yeah, this is This is about as juicy as
it Yes, guys, this might be one of the juiciest
ones we've given out since a couple of years ago
when we used to do like the underdog parlance. With
this one is kind of on that vibe. I'm giving
you a ball state money line at Western Michigan. They
are a nine and a half point underdog. This money
line is BLUs two sixty. I think maction will be

(37:58):
the term of the day here. This game was a
very competitive. Last year, ball State had the lead in
the fourth quarter, ended up losing by a field goal.
This year, the Cardinals more of a defensive team. They
shut out Ohio in the second half. Last week they
won a low scoring game. Western Michigan hasn't impressed me
despite a win over Toledle, which was really funky. Neither
game a neither team game more than three hundred yards.
In that game. They also beat you Mass, but everyone.

Speaker 2 (38:19):
Beats you Mass.

Speaker 5 (38:20):
Ball State has the more experienced quarterback in this game,
Kyle Kelly. They have some momentum after last week low
total game in the low forties. That means high variance
to me. I think the Cards spring the upset maction.
I would also bet this straight up. Ball State plus
nine and a half before the parlay will give you
moneyline plus two sixty.

Speaker 8 (38:38):
We opened the show talking about al fam mccona, Missouri
and SEC matchup that could really topple the tide, the
bully's pullying or the pulley's getting bullied. I like Missouri
the more we look at this, so I'm gonna take
Missouri on the money line plus one forty five added
to the parlay.

Speaker 2 (38:57):
They're dogged by three and a half at home.

Speaker 8 (39:00):
They can control this game if a mod Hardy does
a mod Hardy stop. And Alabama is specific specifically capable
of being plucked on the run game and we've seen
him many times already.

Speaker 2 (39:12):
They're not as solid upfront.

Speaker 8 (39:14):
Foundational pieces on the defense have not played as well
as they should in that front seven. So give me
Missouri with the upset posting the crimson time.

Speaker 4 (39:24):
Okay, you're gonna think someone kidnapped me, all right, but
hear me out over here.

Speaker 3 (39:27):
I'm gonna take a notre dame under all right, I'm.

Speaker 4 (39:30):
Gonna go with wide receiver Jordan facehim, who's good. I'm
gonna take under seventy three and a half receiving yards
today against NC State. Just a lot of mouths to feed,
you know, Like if you think about prop bets, it's
not just the opposing team that's the enemy.

Speaker 3 (39:48):
It's your own teammates that are the enemy.

Speaker 4 (39:51):
And when you've got guys like Malachi Fields, Eli Rariden,
the tight end, you got Jeremiah Love Jadari and Price
the one two running back combot, it's a lot of
my to feed unless they're you know, rack it up
six hundred yards. I don't love Jordan Faison's chances to
get over seventy three and a half. Now the last
three games he's gone over this number comfortably. But again,

(40:13):
I just think there are a lot of miles to feed.
Notre Dame is a huge favorite. If they're up big,
I don't think they're gonna chuck it around in the
third like fourth quarters. Faison's real shifty, he's quick, but
I think seventy three and a half it's a big number.

Speaker 3 (40:26):
I'm gonna take the under.

Speaker 5 (40:27):
There plus nineteen thirty six after a boo, it's almost
twenty to one.

Speaker 4 (40:32):
Guys, whooh had goosey right there? No doubt looking forward
to that coming up next? What we see a Bud
Crawford impression? Oh what is going on? Happy Saturday football
schedule day to you? It is terrible greeting right there.
Let me try again. Happy happy ball day.

Speaker 3 (40:50):
Huh?

Speaker 4 (40:51):
We got ball all day today. It's gonna be a
beautiful Saturday. Will this team be able to do its
impression of boxer? Bud Cross offered weve details in just
a couple of seconds. Hey, throughout the entire football season,
bet MGM will offer all different types of no sweat
tokens and odds boost tokens. Be on the lookout for
no sweat same game parlay tokens, parlay boost tokens.

Speaker 3 (41:13):
And so much more.

Speaker 4 (41:14):
By the way, I just use the parlay boost token
on the parlay platter. How about almost twenty to one? Yeah,
how do I set this out?

Speaker 2 (41:22):
You know?

Speaker 5 (41:23):
And I don't even like Rich's pick, but I've got
a bet it anyway, because it's.

Speaker 3 (41:28):
You don't even like Rich, you know, forget about I love.

Speaker 5 (41:31):
Rich, but I'd rather get rich than than love Rich.
Today right right there?

Speaker 2 (41:38):
You go? Yeah, absolutely, alright, we got today here you go.

Speaker 4 (41:43):
Absolutely might need that leg of the parlay to cash it. Okay,
So we got Indiana against Oregon. Oregon now a seven
point favorite. It is ticked down just a little bit. Also,
the total is ticked down a little bit as well.
Now it's fifty three and a half, so a couple
of points from last night.

Speaker 3 (42:00):
It's ticked down.

Speaker 4 (42:02):
The first question I have is, just, you know, like
a broad view, can Indiana punch up a couple of
weight classes?

Speaker 2 (42:10):
Right? Like?

Speaker 4 (42:11):
Do you remember the fight is about a month ago
now roughly where Bud Crawford, he beat Canelo Alvarez. Bud
Crawford went up two weight classes and took down Canelo Alvarez,
who is like boxing royalty.

Speaker 3 (42:26):
It takes a freak.

Speaker 4 (42:27):
And I mean that as a compliment to be able
to do something like that that is not easy.

Speaker 3 (42:30):
It doesn't happen.

Speaker 4 (42:32):
And I think that's exactly what Indiana is trying to
do today to take down a team like Oregon on
the road. When you go back to last season when
Indiana was punching up a couple of weight classes, they
got punked at Ohio State smacked them around. Then in
the college football playoff, Notre Dame smacked him around. So
the first part of this whole thing is, can I

(42:54):
you step up a couple of weight classes and make
no mistake, That's exactly what they're trying to do today
and not just hanging around. Win, win the game, forget
about covering the spread. Win the game against the Ducks.
I just don't think they have enough to do it.

Speaker 2 (43:08):
Yeah, you know, I here's here's the two ways to
look at this.

Speaker 8 (43:14):
If we're going to look at it, more glass half
full for either side. You like on the side of
the Ducks. I mean that game against Penn State was survival.
They went on the road, they went into a hornet's nest,
obviously a white out for the Penn State Nitney Allions
in Happy Valley, and they ruined their party. But it
took everything they had. That was an absolute war to

(43:36):
get it done. Conversely, you look at Indiana and you say, well,
last we saw them, they won a pitcher's duel against Iowa.
You know, Kinnick Stadium has hosted some disastrous moments for
a lot of Big ten teams over the years, and
the Hoosiers survived that one twenty to fifteen, you know,

(43:56):
giving up ground grudgingly, like the Hawkeys always do. They
make you uncomfortable in ways you don't expect, especially.

Speaker 2 (44:04):
When they're hosting you.

Speaker 8 (44:05):
So you look at both of these teams in their
recent games and you say, all right, we have some
data that this can be a bit of a slog
and they can.

Speaker 2 (44:15):
Still get it done.

Speaker 8 (44:17):
My question is, today we're expecting explosiveness from Dante more,
today we're expecting explosiveness from Fernando Mendoza. But what happens
if this game gets a little ugly? What happens if
this game does get a little hard, and oftentimes games
we build up they don't live up to the shootout

(44:38):
that we all hope they will. It's not going to
be eighty points score today. Sometimes with those prize fights
like you just mentioned Crawford Canelo, it could be a
little bit of positioning. It could be a chess match
for the first three rounds. Two fighters circling each other,
trying to find the ins and the outs and you know,
protect themselves a little bit, maybe not take too many
big shots because you don't want to make the the

(45:00):
play that turns into the turnover that turns the.

Speaker 2 (45:02):
Tide for a half.

Speaker 8 (45:04):
So who's going to win the uglier game, who's more capable?
Maleen is still more toward the Oregon Ducks because of
what you led with, Brian, which is that the Indiana
Hoosiers are fighting above their weight class here. But as
you mentioned, Crawford was able to knock off Canelo. We
have seen it before, so this is a hairy spot

(45:24):
for the Oregon Ducks.

Speaker 2 (45:26):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (45:27):
The first part of this handicap that and I want
to mention is teams travel big ten teams traveling across
the Rockies. Right since we've had this expansion, the great
Western push with the Big ten, twelve, and twenty one
straight up, they have not done well. Again, a lot
of that is circumstantial. A lot of these teams are

(45:47):
you know, bad teams traveling out west, so you know,
you don't expect them to win. This is not one
of those scenarios. Obviously, Indiana's legit. The other part of
this handicap that you have to ask yourself is how
solid are the really good statistics that both of these
teams have put up. Indiana has bludgeoned bad teams, just

(46:10):
crush them like and they have run up the score
when they've had advantages, So their elite statistical categories, you
have to be like, eh, how good are they? Same
thing with Oregon. They've got a top ten passing defense,
but they haven't faced the top eighty passing offense like
Penn State. When they finally woke up in the second half.

(46:30):
Really it was the fourth quarter. I mean it was
slice and dice that Oregon defense, but they just didn't
do it. They didn't stretch Oregon vertically. For the first
three quarters. They were just kind of, you know, playing
with their food a little bit and then all of
a sudden, they're like, oh crap, we're down two scores.
We got to actually throw the ball downfield. And then
it was bing bang, boom, touchdown, touchdown. Penn State tied
the game and went in the overtime, and obviously you

(46:51):
know what happened after that. So that's where I'm struggling
to wrap my head around this matchup. How good both
of these teams, their statistical profiles are both elite, But
how elite are they on both sides of the ball.
I think, if I had to guess, I think Oregon's
defense is not as buttoned up in the back as

(47:14):
we think it is, because again, I think that's the
one thing. First of all, if you're behind a lot,
it just it makes it really hard. I think Indiana
will have some success throwing the ball on this Oregon secondary.
The question is can they stop the run? Because when
I look at Indiana's defense, here's their profile up front,

(47:37):
their nose tackle Tyrek Tucker six foot, three hundred pounds,
they're three tech Joseo Wheeler six three two ninety eight
like they're crafty, but those are nose tackles in college
football in the Big Ten, you're not even three hundred pounds. Like,
I do think Oregon might be able to lean on
Indiana a little bit and make them very kind of

(47:58):
you know, almost when you're playing your big brother in basketball,
like he can just kind of box you down and
you know, get an easy layup every time because he's bigger,
an he's stronger than you. So that's where I'm a
little bit concerned for Indiana. But I do think Oregon's
secondary is gettable.

Speaker 4 (48:14):
Yeah, it's sort of like the we could do a
whole Mike Tyson's punch Out breakdown of IU where a
lot of the stats that they've accumulated that they've racked up,
like Jared you're talking about, that's like facing glass Joe
when they beat Indiana State seventy three to nothing, and
the stats that they accumulated in that game were staggering.

Speaker 3 (48:35):
It was insane what they did.

Speaker 4 (48:37):
That's class Joe and Mike Tyson's punch out, which is
for those that are you know, not initiated as the
first opponent, who's the weakest one, and then you get
a little bit more like okay, when they faced Old Dominion,
that'd be kind of like a piston Honda.

Speaker 3 (48:52):
You know, maybe like alohing tough this year.

Speaker 4 (48:55):
They're pretty good, but they're not elite, you know, so
maybe like a bald ball, you know, give you problems,
Maybe something like that.

Speaker 5 (49:03):
You gotta go with the right jab first, on the
on the ball, on the bull, left jab the second
time you face.

Speaker 4 (49:08):
Him, Yet you go up or cut when he's charging you.
Not not smart. You gotta go gut, you gotta go, stomach,
gotta go otherwise.

Speaker 3 (49:16):
Yeah, not gonna go well pants. But it's not Oregon.

Speaker 4 (49:19):
Wait when you look at all these teams, not Oregon,
And uh, that's what I worry about. I hate to
be so simplistic with the way I handicap a game,
but I've got nightmares of them trying to step up
in weight class. Last year didn't go well at all.
This is a major step up in weight class, and
that's what I think. Defensively, like, their front seven is

(49:41):
pretty good, but it's like, what are you take it
away from Oregon's offense. I'm not convinced they're gonna do
great against the rush. If you're not doing great against
the rush, it's like, what are you doing great against?
You gotta limit the damage somehow, you gotta take something away.
I don't know that I use taking anything away from
Oregon offense today, and then it becomes a matter of

(50:02):
can you match points if the defense isn't holding up
its end of the bargain and again punching up.

Speaker 3 (50:09):
In weight class on the road. That's a lot to ask.

Speaker 4 (50:11):
For an IU team that's just not nearly as talented
top to bottom. They're not on the same level as Oregon.

Speaker 8 (50:18):
Yeah, in terms of the actual raw talent under the
roof in the facility, working out training alongside each other Indiana,
they're not Oregon. Yeah, And Oregon has become a powerhouse
for so many reasons. And one day we could have
a big old camp out and talk about NIL and

(50:39):
what Oregon may look like here in the coming years,
because I think they're building a monster out there. They
will continue to vacuum up all of the West Coast recruits.
It's going to be the place, and there's a lot
of reason behind it. A lot has to do with
money and the new NIL era that we're we've entered
and we're going to continue traversing down. But getting back

(51:02):
to this game specifically, Yeah, there's a talent disparity However,
when there's a talent disparity, you you always wish that
there's an offense that can affect a team's aggressiveness in
an advantageous way. And that's exactly what the Hoosiers have.
This fast paced, tempo, rpo, highly variable offense where when

(51:26):
you have a talent enough quarterback and they do Fernando
Mendoza has been tested and is a talented quarterback at
the helm, you can make a team pay based off
you know how good their athletes are and how aggressive
their athletes are, and how badly they want to stop
the play when you are putting them in a bind
where there's no good answers to a well designed play

(51:49):
as long as it's executed perfectly, well, then it's like
facing the Army option. It's like facing you know, one
of these military schools. If they have enough athletes on
the field, you're gonna have a real long, hard day.
And that's kind of what the Hoosiers offense is like.
It feels almost like a cheek code when it's really going.

(52:09):
And so yeah, I agree with your your whole consensus
about this game. But Indiana has that lurking key piece
that is missing from the conversation. Offensively, they can hang
with anyone because they have an offense that puts you
in a bad position every single play to stop them.

Speaker 5 (52:29):
Yeah, I'll give you the I'll give you the recipe
the path for Indiana here. So I do think their
offensive line might get overwhelmed at times by this Oregon
pass rush.

Speaker 2 (52:39):
We mentioned him a.

Speaker 5 (52:40):
Couple of weeks ago. The Dju's brother, Matteo Uyung Lala
is their best pass rusher.

Speaker 2 (52:46):
He's talent.

Speaker 5 (52:46):
He's a little undersized, but he's very talented, very craft
He's got a lot of different moves.

Speaker 3 (52:50):
Do we call him m you by the way, Sure,
you can.

Speaker 5 (52:52):
Call him whatever you want, but I'm gonna go because
I've spent years now trying to perfect this guy's name.
After he was the quarter back of many teams. I
feel like he's played quarterback. I think it was Clemson,
Florida State, and Oregon State. He's been at three different schools. Yeah,
Ouhyung de La lay, I can say it. I've practiced
very very hard in my spare time and in the

(53:14):
interior of the Oregon d line bear Alexander, Mario Washington,
those guys are best and I didn't love what I
saw on the Northwestern tape, and I was like, oh,
maybe Penn State can get these guys. And then they
just raised their level against Penn State.

Speaker 2 (53:25):
Right.

Speaker 5 (53:25):
I think they were kind of sleepwalking through that Northwestern game,
and the interior of that defensive line really played well
against Penn State. Here is the path, though. Indiana loves
to run a lot of RPOs, a lot of quick
free access throws. If Mendoza is getting the ball out
quick and he has a very lightning quick delivery, two
point six seconds time to throw. He was two point

(53:47):
two in the blowout against Illinois. I mean it was
one two to three ball out. That mitigates the pass
rush just a bit, and so you try not to
attack the middle. Don't just run it up the gut
with Roman Heemby, he was alid back, But don't just
slam them into that middle of the defensive line because
your offensive line is a little bit undersized, especially on
the right side. RPO game, quick free access routes. Ye

(54:11):
get the rhythm of the offense going, get into second
and five, third and two, and just make Oregon feel
like they're kind of on the back foot where they're
always like their defense is always backing up a few
yards on every play, and if you can get that
momentum rolling, I think that is the path for Indiana.
You try to keep the ball away from that Oregon

(54:31):
offense that's gonna want to play bully ball, and try
to take advantage of that very undersized Indiana defensive line,
and you just let Mendoza get into a rhythm and
get that delivery going. Listen, they've got We've seen these
Indiana receivers play really well, Sarah. You remember him from
last year, Alpha X type six to two to twenty.
You've got Williams, the Clemson transfer, another big body at
six to three, and I really like the Omar Cooper kid.

(54:52):
He's kind of a z eighteen yards per catch this
year at six foot two hundre pounds. So you've got
some weapons on the outside that can make Oregon sweat
a little bit. We don't love the Oregon secondary, but
you've got to put pressure on him. The key is
is Dan Lanning gonna go press coverage and take away
all of those easy access throws at the line of scrimmage.
If that's the case, then you've got to take shots

(55:13):
down the field and if you're Kurt Signetty, you've got
to have the gumption to be able to take some
of those deep verticals. So it's a it is an
interesting chess match, but I do see a path for
Indiana's offense to have success.

Speaker 3 (55:23):
That's a good breakdown.

Speaker 4 (55:24):
I'll say this real fast is I want to see
IU play the way Kurt Signetti talks. You know, because
like last year, going into the playoff game against Notre Dame,
it was all the sound bites, it's I win, Google me.
You know, it's like, okay, all right, this guy, we're
not backing down from anybody. And then it's the fourth
quarter and they're punting. Yeah, It's like, what what do

(55:48):
you You're basically raising the white flag. Where's all this
brash like we don't back down, like google me, I win.
Where's that on the field. I want to see that
on the field today for Indiana. Otherwise I don't think
they have a chance. But I love what you broke
down right there, And if there are some deep shots
to be taken, I don't want them to be like,

(56:08):
you know what, let's not be too risky. I want
them to just let it all hang out today and
they've shown a tendency when they're punching up to not
do that. I think that's their identity. I think that's
who they are, that's who they're led by. I want
to see them play like that. I want to see
them go about it like strategically like that. All right,
We've got Rich Hornberger, Penn State All American, Jared Smith

All right?

Speaker 4 (56:55):
Coming up next, how about a little no huddle action.
There are some great matchups in one particular conference. We'll
bust out some fast break previews.

Speaker 3 (57:05):
That's on the way.

so we're going quick. I mean, we could have a
like Dittohead from Slayer playing in the background, like speed
this up, you know, a little thrash metal. What do
you guys think you're good without it?

Speaker 2 (57:46):
You love it? Okay?

Speaker 5 (57:47):
Yeah, whatever makes you happy, bro.

Speaker 4 (57:49):
Okay, but give me quick, just a couple of real
quick thoughts here, because in the SEC man, there are
some great games. We're not even talking about Bama Miszoo,
which we talked about in the first hour. We're not
even talking about Oklahoma Texas, which we'll get to next hour.
We've got four other games that are really intriguing. How

(58:10):
about Florida at number five, Texas A and M A
and M. They're just kind of slowing the pace down.
You know, you think about that run and gun game
against Notre Dame crazy points. You know, yards go Lore.
They're really leaning on their defense more. You saw that
last week against Mississippi State. What do you think about Florida, Texas,
A and M they're rich.

Speaker 2 (58:30):
Well.

Speaker 8 (58:31):
Florida snapped that three game losing streak with a win
over Texas.

Speaker 2 (58:35):
The key to.

Speaker 8 (58:38):
Protecting or excuse me, the key to that victory was
protecting Dj Lagway, which they did a nice job. He
got the ball long enough to distribute it to guys
who can really make you pay on the outside. And
then you look at the other side of this matchup.
This is an elite matchup defensively, especially for a Florida
Gators offense that struggled throughout the season. And that's a

(59:00):
really good defensive line. They're facing the third highest sack
rate in the country. I think the deciding factor is
going to be these two defenses doing what they do
against two talented offenses, and and it's gonna be a
QB duel. We're gonna find out who's better between Marcel Reid,

(59:21):
who's got this explosive arm, and DJ Lagway, who's finally
proven this season that he can get it done. I
think it comes down to the QB play in this one.

Speaker 5 (59:30):
Yeah, underrated game, honestly, Yeah, you're seeing it off the
off the hook, now off the seven and a half,
now down to seven. So Florida's getting a little love.
These teams are kind of similar, right, Like, I honestly
think their their profiles are kind of similar. Florida's got
three losses, but only one conference loss. Like they are

(59:50):
still in the mix to make some noise in the SEC.
I like, finally, finally Florida ran and against Texas, are
we gonna get that same commitment to the run. This week,
we've watched teams running on A and M. This year,
we've seen Notre Dame have some success. The Gators obviously
vulnerable with Lagway's health and his turnover tendencies. Marcel Reid though,

(01:00:12):
like I just I feel I do, like to say, Anthony,
I actually picked them to be in the COLLEGEA Ball
Playoff before the season started. Their defense is improved. I
love Tori and York, their middle linebackers. Instinctual. I just
I don't know, I feel like Florida's live in this game.

Speaker 4 (01:00:24):
I do. Okay, all right, let's pick up the tempo here, guys,
it's gonna be like the coach on the side, like.

Speaker 3 (01:00:29):
Faster, faster you right, Like all right, we guys. Georgia
at Auburn. Georgia now favored by four.

Speaker 4 (01:00:35):
I think Georgia matches up really well with Auburn if
you think defensively, george is good against the rush, not
that great against the pass. Auburn they want to run it,
they're not great throwing it. So I think this sets
up well for the Dogs just in terms of the matchup.

Speaker 8 (01:00:49):
All right, So the Tigers, they are coming off of
buye and Auburn now hosts really their first marquee opponent
at home. It's it's the I haven't really been tested
as much as Georgia's so far this season, so I'm
curious how they respond. But at least they get them
at their place. Here's what they'll say about this matchup

(01:01:10):
that people aren't paying attention to, but I always do.
The Auburn Tigers have the better offensive line in better
defensive line, and that could factor, especially in a game
with the pomp and circumstance of having the tenth ranked
team a conference team come into your place and try
to beat you up.

Speaker 2 (01:01:28):
They'll be able to control the game better than Georgia
will be able to. So look out.

Speaker 8 (01:01:33):
If the Tigers have an early lead, Georgia could be
in trouble rock fight.

Speaker 5 (01:01:38):
Honestly, Georgia's old lines, banged up Freeling and Green are
both questionable. We'll see if they play. Auburn's got some
beef upfront defensively, I mean, go look at the size
and weights of those Auburn front four. I think Kirby
smart this is a very easy Auburn offense to game
plan against. They run our PO, they'll pull it and
they'll try to hit Cam Coleman on a deep shot. Well,

(01:02:00):
you can take away a deep shot with one receiver
by just playing bracket coverage, and then you put an
extra shafety in the box and you force Jackson Arnold
to pull it on the RPO and then he's kind
of a sitting duck back there. So I think this
feels like a twenty to seventeen kind of game, But
I don't know who wins.

Speaker 4 (01:02:17):
Interesting. Okay, how about another one? South Carolina at number eleven.
LSU LSU favored.

Speaker 2 (01:02:22):
By nine and a half.

Speaker 4 (01:02:24):
I like LSU's defense a lot. I dislike LSU's offense
a lot. They were off last week. We'll see if
they fixed anything. But man, nine and a half points
is a lot when you've got a really sketchy offense
like LSU does. At some point, South Carolina is gonna
kick it into gear.

Speaker 3 (01:02:41):
Do you not think so?

Speaker 4 (01:02:42):
Like they have so much firepower as a live dog.
I don't know that they win, but man, covering nine
and a half, you gotta think the game Cocks are live.

Speaker 3 (01:02:50):
As far as that.

Speaker 2 (01:02:50):
Goes, I one hundred percent agree.

Speaker 8 (01:02:53):
Wearing complete alignment, Lenoris Sellers perts on the scene last year.
A lot of Heisman buzz around his name in the preseason.
Has not lived up to it this year because he's
been less efficient overall, especially in the run game.

Speaker 2 (01:03:05):
They're trying to.

Speaker 8 (01:03:06):
Do a lot more with his arm this year, and
they've been less efficient in the run game as a result. LSU,
though nothing they've done this season has wowed me. I've
literally not said wow, did you see LSU last night
or yesterday? All season long? So they're gettable. Do I
think the game Cocks win this game?

Speaker 2 (01:03:25):
No? But do I think they cover up that spread? Yeah?

Speaker 8 (01:03:29):
I like South Carolina If we're if we're looking at
the number, I think I think getting nine and a
half here is a good spot.

Speaker 5 (01:03:37):
For them night Game and Death Valley. That's why the
spread is what it is. I think, based on the
people who I talk to, there are very few environments
that get an extra point for home field advantage. LSU
Night Game is one of them, So I think that's
why the spread is a little bit inflated. Hate the
numbers for LSU's offense. They can't run it, they're not

(01:03:58):
great blocking. Nus Meyer think is banged up. We'll probably
hear something after the season that he needs surgery on
some random body part. He just looks like he's kind
of a walking wounded right now. Same thing with Sellers,
like that's why he's kind of been inefficient this year.
He's been banged up. I think that's why he's been
hesitant to run it. Tough game. I honestly don't have
a good feel for this one. I think I agree
with your take that the spreads a little bit inflated,

(01:04:19):
But weird things happen in Death Valley at night, and
I wouldn't be shocked if it's snowballs. LSU is able
to put some distance between themselves and Cocky.

Speaker 3 (01:04:29):
Okay, one more.

Speaker 4 (01:04:30):
Here we got Arkansas taking on Tennessee. Tennessee now favored
by ten and a half. There's been some Arkansas money.
How about some Razorbacks money here? As Bobby Petrino is
the man in charge right now, is the interim head coach.
I just look for Arkansas's offense to get back on track.
Tennessee's defense sucks. I think it's gonna be a points

(01:04:51):
fest over here. It's ticked down to sixty eight and
a half. I realize it's still sixty eight and a half.
But Taylor Green, I don't know what happened against No
Notre Dame. Like my Irish a couple of weeks ago,
they were outstanding defensively. I look for Arkansas's offense to
absolutely get back on track because Tennessee I think they'd
have a hard time slowing down me, Jared and Rich.

(01:05:13):
They are not good defensively at all.

Speaker 2 (01:05:15):
Oh my god.

Speaker 8 (01:05:16):
Yeah, the three horsemen of the apocalypse in that backfield.

Speaker 2 (01:05:20):
No Tailing Green. Everything he said about him is correct.

Speaker 8 (01:05:23):
I got to watch a lot of Tailing Green when
he was in the Mountain West calling football games, and
now he's doing special things still at a higher level
of play.

Speaker 2 (01:05:32):
You mentioned Tennessee's defense.

Speaker 8 (01:05:34):
If you look at advanced analytics, they're one hundred and
thirteenth in rush success rate. They're one hundred and thirty
first nationally in defensive finishing drives, which is a key
fundamental stat stopping teams getting into the red zone and
then converting. They are bad, bad, bad bad Arkansas very

(01:05:56):
talented dual threat quarterback.

Speaker 2 (01:05:57):
So yeah, that's a lot of points.

Speaker 8 (01:06:00):
Again, same way I feel about Carolina or South Carolina
we just spoke about. Arkansas is in a similar spot.
It's just too many. It's too many. Now, if you're
looking at the total, that might be too many for me,
but I also think it's too many points for Tennessee
to cover up here today.

Speaker 5 (01:06:19):
Yeah, the storyline in this game is the is the
firing of Pittman and they hire Patrino as the interim right.
They promote him from the offensive coordinator spot to the
interim head coaching spot. And the first order of business
for Bobby Patrino fired defensive coordinator Travis Williams, fired co
defensive coordinator Marcus Woodson, fired defensive line coach Deek Adams.

(01:06:40):
Then he hired Jay Hayes, who is a longtime NFL
defensive line coach, most recently coaching in the UFL. So defensively,
good luck Tennessee's offense. If you blink you miss their
next play. They have one of the fastest tempos in
the country, the fastest in the SEC. I agree, Brian.
I was very disappointed with Tayley Green's performance against Under Dame,

(01:07:01):
and we had the over on his passing yards prop
and it was just it was it was awful. I thought,
even the game script, hey, they're they're behind, they're gonna
throw a throw throw. Still couldn't get over the passing
yards prop. This total is high, right. If it's high,
it's high for a reason.

Speaker 2 (01:07:15):
I think.

Speaker 5 (01:07:16):
If you're betting the under in this game, good luck.
I bet the over at sixty eight and a half.

Speaker 2 (01:07:20):
I think ten.

Speaker 5 (01:07:22):
I think this number right. Usually you get a number
move right. It's like the fire head coaching boost, like, oh,
this team's going to be motivated after they fired their
head coach. I think in college football it's actually in
the opposite because players are like, where am I going next?
Then they're already mentally checked out, whereas in the NFL
they're professionals. They're like, am I getting cut? Am I
getting fired? In college? It might actually work in the
other direction. So I don't agree with the line move here.

(01:07:42):
I'd say Tennessee and the overs to play.

Speaker 4 (01:07:44):
Yeah, interesting stuff right there. And it's funny just to
give you a gauge of how much scoring there might
be in this game. Just look at the totals, you know,
not just the game, but the first quarter, first half,
first quarter total fourteen and a half. Like, if you're
on the over, we gotta you gotta clear that hook,
and they might easily get there. I wouldn't be surprised

(01:08:07):
at all if the overhits in the first quarter.

Speaker 3 (01:08:08):
These teams are.

Speaker 4 (01:08:09):
Just go, go, go go. First half total is thirty
four and a half.

Speaker 3 (01:08:13):
That's high, yeah, high, and the game sixty eight and
a half. I just man, good luck with.

Speaker 5 (01:08:20):
Thirty five all at halftime. No one's going to be like, oh,
it was high. Oh that's why it was high, All.

Speaker 3 (01:08:25):
Right, Yeah, it's gotta be in the fifties combined.

Speaker 5 (01:08:28):
Half arktsall give up against Notre Dame.

Speaker 3 (01:08:30):
What was that fifty six?

Speaker 2 (01:08:32):
Oh? My who? Not a lot of defense being played
today in this one?

Speaker 3 (01:08:36):
No, No, okay, we shifted to the Big Ten.

Speaker 4 (01:08:39):
How about Michigan at USC sc a two and a
half point home favorite. Here, I just listen, man, I
know Michigan's traveling far, I get it. But in USC
might easily win this game. I shouldn't say easily. They
might win this game, but their defense sucks. I feel
horrible about backing the Trojans with the stinky defense against

(01:09:03):
the team like Michigan. They can play smash mouth. Bryce
Underwood can do his thing through the air. There's not
a whole lot of resistance from the Trojans and Justice Haines.
How about this freaking guy five one hundred yard games.
He's five for five getting to one hundred yards this season.
So that's what SE's defense is up against. What do
you think about this one, Rich.

Speaker 8 (01:09:24):
I think what you just said about USC when again
you dive into the stats or just use your eyes
watch some of these games. Their defense is just so bad.
They are so bad, and specifically bad against some of
the things that Michigan gets to in their run game.
And so this is going to be one of those
matchups that favors maybe the over in this point total,

(01:09:48):
we can get back to that, but just in terms
of travel and the Big Ten and what I witnessed
in person last weekend. You watch a Penn State game
who's coming off of an emotional weekend against Oregon. They
go all the way out to Los Angeles and they
play in the Rose Bowl. And it wasn't a sleepy
Rose Bowl situation. There were a lot of Penn State
fans who showed up. I think they were expecting what

(01:10:09):
I was expecting. And the crew I was with, you
know that there was going to be a big bounce back,
a huge coming out party in conference play against UCLA
who's been struggling, And the opposite happened so quite frankly,
almost like a bowl game vibe, where there were a
bunch of people packed into the lower bowl of the

(01:10:30):
Rose Bowl.

Speaker 2 (01:10:31):
It benefited UCLA.

Speaker 8 (01:10:34):
They rode off of the collective energy in the stadium
and after making a firing heat head coach an offensive
coordinator rode that wave to a victory. USC even though
they're struggling, they're hosting a team that's crossing the nation
and that is really difficult to do these college athletes,
they're not used to it. It's a new thing in

(01:10:56):
the Big Ten, not a lot of experience so far
with these types of trips, So this could be a
spot where if you like USC, this.

Speaker 2 (01:11:08):
May be a game to take them. I don't love
this one.

Speaker 8 (01:11:11):
This game in general feels like a stayoff game for
all of that volatility. But if you're trying to find
a reason to fall in love with us, see I
literally watched this happen with Penn State on the road
against UCLA seven days ago.

Speaker 5 (01:11:24):
Yeah, I mean we mentioned it in the Indiana Oregon
preview YEP twelve and twenty one. That's big ten teams
crossing the Rockies. They have struggled straight up. I think
the hard part of this game, the handicap is the
Bryce Underwood dilemma. They are very much a different offense
on the road. At home they're willing to let him
rip a little bit. Or on the road. You watch

(01:11:46):
that game at Oklahoma and it just it was like,
all right, don't make the big mistake. Bryce. You're a freshman,
and I know Norman is a little bit of a
different vibe than at the Coliseum, which, as Rich alluded to,
can be a little sleepy. But USC, listen, I think
danton Lyn's done a really good job with this defense.
I think that's the best hire Lincoln Riley's ever made.

(01:12:07):
And I think Michigan is obviously the more physical team,
but USC does have the ability to stretch you vertically
wink Martindale's defense. We talked about this against Oklahoma. They
play a zone scheme. They like to keep everything in front,
but they're not as physically talented in the secondary as
they've been in years past. Like I think the USC
receivers can have can have some edge here. The question

(01:12:30):
is are the Trojan defenders ready for the physicality that
is Justice Saints number two and runs of forty yards
Number one team in the country and runs of fifty
yards or more. I mean this, this kid is an
explosive nightmare on the ground. If they let Underwood grow
up a little bit and say, hey, listen, let a
rip kid, I think Michigan can win this game. But

(01:12:52):
I'll be honest, I kind of lean USC here just
because I'm not sure Michigan is ready to take the
handcuffs off their bashman quarterback just yet.

Speaker 2 (01:13:01):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:13:01):
No interesting stuff. You might be right, we shall see.

Speaker 4 (01:13:04):
It's funny every time you mentioned the Rockies, Jared, I
think of the movie dumb and dumby right where he's like,
you've had extra gloves this whole game.

Speaker 3 (01:13:14):
Yeah, we're in the rockies. See, I think that every day.

Speaker 4 (01:13:18):

Speaker 2 (01:15:16):
Correct? Absolutely correct?

Speaker 5 (01:15:18):
We all had the Dodgers, though I have to tell
you that for sure.

Speaker 3 (01:15:20):
Yeah, that's true.

Speaker 5 (01:15:21):
Yeah, let's be honest. The Dodgers are winning the World Series.

Speaker 2 (01:15:24):
Guys.

Speaker 5 (01:15:24):
I'm sorry to all the Toronto and Seattle fans out there.

Speaker 4 (01:15:29):
I mean, they're absolutely going to be the runaway favorites.
But you know, we'll see, maybe we'll get a little
unexpected drama. We'll see how it plays.

Speaker 8 (01:15:36):
The partners are good, they're a complete lineup. I mean
one through nine really really solid.

Speaker 2 (01:15:41):
And that's the.

Speaker 8 (01:15:42):
First time maybe in Seattle history, you can say that.
So if they're able to survive the Alcs, that'll be
a fun matchup. That'll be a really you'll have a
lot of the West Coast engaged in that one too.

Speaker 5 (01:15:54):
By the way, ratings will stink though, unfortunately, yeah they will,
they will.

Speaker 2 (01:15:59):
Real fans.

Speaker 4 (01:16:00):
How about our trusted producer Bo Benson and his dedication
to his craft. You know, he could have gone with
I don't know, another highlight, could have said, you know,
in fairness to Chris Purfet, technical producer extraordinaire, big Detroit guy,
let's go with the South Florida touchdown highlight.

Speaker 3 (01:16:16):
He's like, no, no, that's not gonna do. Sorry, Chris
is gonna sting a little bit, but this has to
be today.

Speaker 2 (01:16:23):
Yeah, got a job.

Speaker 5 (01:16:24):
Option two was the final call of the Aces winning.

Speaker 2 (01:16:27):
Their uh oh yeah, okay, yeah.

Speaker 7 (01:16:30):
I figured the Tigers game was more relevant to and
unfortunately for Bo this there's just gonna be tension in
this control room for the rest of the day. I
spend another nine hours in here with him.

Speaker 3 (01:16:39):
It would have been a good highlight of it.

Speaker 4 (01:16:40):
And Nate Tippets has been ejected for simply arguing it's crazy.

Speaker 3 (01:16:45):
I don't know what the wing those insane.

Speaker 5 (01:16:47):
Fun fact, the Aces have won three w NBA titles
since I've moved to Vegas. Before I moved to Vegas zero,
So obviously I'm the good luck.

Speaker 4 (01:16:54):
Trn listen man real quick. Ryan Ruco does a great job.
I hate these orchestra traded calls for three of a
kind for the Ace. Oh my gosh, dude, really, I
didn't think about that off the top of his head.

Speaker 3 (01:17:08):
He thought about that nine nights before he.

Speaker 5 (01:17:10):
Get that out of the out of the the Nance
playbook with the Masters, that's that's a Nance thing.

Speaker 4 (01:17:17):
Oh yeah, what did he say when the Chiefs beat
the Niners in Vegas?

Speaker 2 (01:17:22):
Jackpot?

Speaker 5 (01:17:23):
You know, yeah, yeah, and he wasn't talking about my
beautiful dog.

Speaker 2 (01:17:26):
That's right.

Speaker 3 (01:17:27):
Gave me a leg tattoo for the rest of my life.
We got props to get to. Let's do this.

Speaker 2 (01:17:35):
Prop it up plays.

Speaker 4 (01:17:38):
All right, Jared, we start with you. What is a
prop that you were fond of today?

Speaker 5 (01:17:42):
Sir, Yeah, we talked about it in the SEC whip
around there. I'm going cam Coleman under fifteen and a
half receiving yards. I think this is going to be
a rock fight Auburn Georgia. I think he only had
four for eighteen versay and m two weeks ago. And
Mike Elcho is a good defensive coach, so is Kirby.
Smart defenses are figuring out how to slow down this
Auburn offense. You play bracket coverage on cam Coleman, you

(01:18:04):
take away that explosive vertical, you make Jackson Arnold pull
it on the RPO and become a runner, and it
just turns Auburn very one dimensional. So cam Coleman, I
don't think he has an explosive day under fifty and
a half receiving yards for the Auburn X receiver.

Speaker 8 (01:18:20):
Okay, we're returning to a well, I hit on a
passing prop with Tailing Green earlier in the season. On
prop it up, I go back to Tailing Green, Arkansas quarterback.

Speaker 2 (01:18:29):
However, this time a rushing prop fifty seven and a half.
Give me the over. Tennessee gives up a.

Speaker 8 (01:18:34):
Ton of successful plays on the ground to opposing offenses.

Speaker 2 (01:18:39):
They're also missing a key piece All.

Speaker 8 (01:18:41):
American corner Jermad McCoy out for the balls. They're gonna
play more coverage to make up for that loss, especially
in their men to man defense.

Speaker 2 (01:18:51):
So that means they're.

Speaker 8 (01:18:52):
Gonna have a less availability of adding players to the
box to slow down Tailing Green's rushing attack exploiting the
edges of that defense. So give me again, Tailing Green,
quarterback for the Arkansas Razorbacks, fifty seven and a half
from taking over that rushing total.

Speaker 4 (01:19:07):
Okay, I love these quarterback rushing numbers. Or I had
Castellanos last week against Miami. Yeah, and the sack yardage
counts against you kills you.

Speaker 3 (01:19:19):
And when he gets sacked it's like a loss of twelve.

Speaker 5 (01:19:22):
You're like, just throw it just I don't care.

Speaker 4 (01:19:25):
I don't care if it's a Betel ground, he just
throw the ball anywhere.

Speaker 3 (01:19:30):
Yes, I don't here right exactly.

Speaker 4 (01:19:33):
I'm gonna go with Jeremiah Smith, the stud Ohio state
wide receiver. I'm gonna take over ninety one and a
half receiving yards.

Speaker 3 (01:19:40):
I know it's a high.

Speaker 4 (01:19:41):
Number, but he's going up against Illinois worst pass defense
in the Big Ten and Julian Sayan's played really, really
well this year. So I like the over with Jeremiah Smith.
I think this is one of the spots where you
know he's just gonna go ballistic in a couple of
these Big Ten games. I think that's gonna be one
of them. So I'm gonna take Jeremiah Smith to reach

(01:20:01):
at least ninety two receiving yards against the ALLIONI today.

Speaker 5 (01:20:06):
I like that.

Speaker 3 (01:20:06):
Yeah, you do nice. I like your pick too as well.

Speaker 4 (01:20:09):
Good breakdown, man, I had to abstain from Malachi Fields.
I'm betting on him, but I didn't work him into
profit up here all right, coming up neck. It's an
aggressive move, but is it smart?

Speaker 2 (01:20:21):
Ah?

Speaker 4 (01:20:21):
Yes, Happy Saturday to you, getting you all set for
a full day of college football. Seamus McGee from bet MGM.
He'll be with us in about twenty minutes this hour.
Looking forward to that. I mentioned this a couple of
minutes ago. It's an aggressive move, but is it smart?
That's at least the approach that John Mattei is taking

(01:20:43):
the Oklahoma quarterback. He wants to play. He had a
broken right hand that required surgery. He's just seventeen days
removed from surgery on his throwing hand, and all week
we've heard nothing, but hey, he's now been upgraded. It
looks like he's going to give it a go. And
now you look at the betting market and Texas is
favored by one and a half, which indicates there are

(01:21:06):
a lot of betters that are not buying this whole
John Matteir playing thing.

Speaker 3 (01:21:12):
Uh so, uh let's see what.

Speaker 4 (01:21:14):
Would you chalk this up to. Do you think this
is real? Do you think it's gamesmanship? Do you think
that it could be option three? It could be that
Matier is doing everything you can to play, really wants
to play against Texas. And at the you know, the
the very end, like right before the game starts.

Speaker 3 (01:21:33):
It's like, Ehle's it's a little risky, let's not do that.
What do you think is going on here?

Speaker 2 (01:21:37):
Rich?

Speaker 4 (01:21:38):
How the week is played out and what you expect
from Matier either on or off the field today.

Speaker 8 (01:21:43):
It's a it's a risk, let's put it that way,
if he does suit up, because all right, So this
is the way these.

Speaker 2 (01:21:51):
Types of injuries work.

Speaker 8 (01:21:52):
Typically when you get a surgery, obviously you have to
recover from the surgery first, and then whatever has been
operated on needs to recover. Now, the surface area where
they cut into his skin on his thumb, obviously that's
healed now they're there, or as healed as it's going
to be.

Speaker 2 (01:22:13):
It's probably still tender underneath. They they fixed bones.

Speaker 8 (01:22:19):
Now, look, in order for a bone to mend, everybody
has a different healing time. But you know, you have
to have bones attach themselves to screws and physical implements
that you put in there, and and in order for
that to happen, you gotta let the thing rest. You
obviously have to give yourself proper nutrition. You got to

(01:22:40):
test the the the area that's been broken a few
times over the course of you know, a very well
planned physical therapy plan. But if you're in a rush
to get a guy back, can he play? I would
say yeah, it would take them numbing it up pretty
good in that specific areas.

Speaker 2 (01:23:00):
So he doesn't lose mobility.

Speaker 8 (01:23:02):
But at the same token, he's not hampered by the pain,
which is going to be the biggest problem. And then
you got to look at risk reward. I mean, are
we in a situation where you're okay both from the
standpoint of the player and also the team potentially losing
this guy for the season if he has a reinjury here,
because that's what you're risking, and it's so early, we're

(01:23:25):
only twenty days out from the initial injury that it
is a pretty significant risk.

Speaker 2 (01:23:30):
So can he play? Yeah? I think he could play.
Would there be a way to mitigate the pain he's feeling?

Speaker 8 (01:23:38):
Absolutely? Will he be successful? Will he play an entire game?
Is it a good idea? Those are very very different conversations.

Speaker 2 (01:23:48):
But can he play? The answer is absolutely yes.

Speaker 5 (01:23:51):
Yeah, it's his throwing hand.

Speaker 3 (01:23:53):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (01:23:53):
I mean, I'm no doctor, but usually when you're throwing
hand is compromised in any way, the injury risk is
kind of okay. That's one you know, debate about is
he healthy enough? Is there enough stability and strength and
mobility in all those things? I think is one side
of the debate about his actual physical injury risk. The

(01:24:18):
other side of the debate is you have to throw
the football accurately in order to succeed in any level
of football. Can he do that continuously after taking hit
after hit after hit? I mean, this is a Texas
has got their backs against the wall. Man Like, they've

(01:24:38):
got two losses already, They're coming off a loss in
the swamp. Their defense. I know, arch Manning's taken some
lumps this year, and the offensive line hasn't been great
and they can't run it, but this is still a
pretty darn good Texas defense at held Ohio State to
fourteen points. So I do think there is an element
of what the heck is Oklahoma thinking throwing a kid

(01:25:01):
out there that maybe can't even accurately throw the ball
down field. And if Texas figures that out at any
point in the game, I mean, this is gonna be
like fish in a barrel. You remove the element of
the explosive pass if he can't accurately throw it downfield,
and Texas basically can use you know, the deep safeties

(01:25:25):
is now box safeties. It's gonna make life really hard
for this Oklahoma offense. Now, on the other side, Texas
is like two yards and a cloud of dust on offense.
So it might not matter if Oklahoma can generate some
short fields and put our commanding in some difficult spots.
I mean, they can out run the ball the running
backs against Florida last week nine carries for eleven yards.

(01:25:46):
In two games against Ohio State and Florida, Arch has
been pressured on almost half of his dropbacks. The offensive
line in the run game is non existent for Texas,
So you get this. This is a hard game to handicap.
These games at Red River are funk key. And now
you throw this Materier injury in there at this is
a This is like an emoji with the two hands
up in the air.

Speaker 4 (01:26:05):
I think, Yeah, I just don't think Mateira is gonna play.
The market moved again. Now Texas is favored by two
and a half.

Speaker 5 (01:26:12):
Oh yeah, he's not playing.

Speaker 3 (01:26:13):
He's not playing.

Speaker 8 (01:26:14):
Okay, Yeah, Well, like I said, he could play Jared
and Brian.

Speaker 2 (01:26:18):
The answer the question will he be effective? How long
will he play?

Speaker 8 (01:26:24):
Those are questions that can be easily answered within the
first couple of plays of this game.

Speaker 2 (01:26:29):
You know, I mean, I'll tell you right now.

Speaker 8 (01:26:31):
From breaking several fingers over the course of my career,
The last thing to really truly come back is trusting
your grip strength. Imagine how important that is for a
quarterback when you're trying to grip a football, especially if
the ball gets wet with sweat or any weather that
the experience during the course of the game. I don't
know what the chances of precipitation are, but like that

(01:26:53):
is the reality of playing quarterback. You need your hands,
your upper body to be one hundred percent and if
it isn't, it actually is more advantageous for your starting quarterback.
You're more talented quarterback to get healthy than to risk
further injury. It's more advantageous to give a guy a
chance to get some reps when the bullets are flying.

(01:27:14):
For real, who's behind that quarterback? Because that quarterback may
not be ready for quite some time. So season on
the brink, I understand it. Everybody's looking for W's. It's
highly unlikely if he plays, he plays for very long,
or that he plays at all.

Speaker 2 (01:27:32):
Well.

Speaker 4 (01:27:32):
I think that also the other Oklahoma quarterback, Michael Hawkins Junior.
This must have been a weird week for him, you
know where He's like, I get it, I get it.
Materis a Heisman hopeful. But I got two hands that
are not broken at all, you know, like a weird
week for him.

Speaker 5 (01:27:49):
My throwing hand isn't broken. Can I play coach?

Speaker 2 (01:27:51):
Please? Guys? What about me? You know what, We'll get
back to you Hawkins anyway. So about this.

Speaker 5 (01:27:58):
Materi guy, he played in his game year right, like
he has experienced in this game.

Speaker 3 (01:28:03):
Yeah's true.

Speaker 4 (01:28:04):
By the way, it's all been about mateir in his
injury situation.

Speaker 3 (01:28:08):
Going on here.

Speaker 4 (01:28:09):
How about Arch Manning And because a lot of people
think he's been banged up this year and it's not
an excuse to resolve, you know, to absolve all the
wrongdoing this season, and there's been a lot he's been
terrible under pressure and he's been under a lot of pressure.
That old line has been rough. But this goes back
a little more than a month ago. Remember when Steve Sarkisian,

(01:28:29):
the head coach, he was trying to, you know, push
away all this speculation about Arch being banged up. This
is over a month ago. Listen to it again. The
way it's played out since then, Arch.

Speaker 2 (01:28:40):
Manning seemed to be having some throwing pains by the
according to who arch Arch said that to you No.

Speaker 5 (01:28:46):
Oh, according to who, it just looked like he was.
He doesn't have any Is there an explanation to why
he was it looked like that.

Speaker 2 (01:28:54):
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (01:28:56):
I've never filed I've never filmed any of you guys
when you're using the bathroom, so I don't know what
as you make when you're doing that.

Speaker 4 (01:29:02):
That's an interesting comment by Sark. But think about this,
like Arch might have been banged up throughout this year.
And again, listen, like, I'm not saying go back, I
remember you Jared the first game of the year against
Ohio State, the first throw of the season, it was
like he was skipping a rock across a lake somewhere,

(01:29:22):
you know, And that's the He's not banged up then,
So it doesn't absolve everything.

Speaker 3 (01:29:27):
I'm not trying to say that.

Speaker 4 (01:29:28):
I'm just saying a banged up Arch manning potentially behind
a very suspect offensive line against Oklahoma's defense, that is
a horrible combination for hook them.

Speaker 2 (01:29:40):
Yeah it is.

Speaker 8 (01:29:41):
I mean, look, I I'll rewind the clock to Caleb
Williams coming.

Speaker 2 (01:29:46):
Out party where he was like the it quarterback and he.

Speaker 8 (01:29:51):
Had one more year left and at USC everybody was like,
oh my gosh, look at this guy.

Speaker 2 (01:29:56):
I mean, the future is bright.

Speaker 8 (01:29:57):
I mean USC if they're able to you know, you know,
this much success this year, But what if.

Speaker 2 (01:30:03):
They lose talent?

Speaker 8 (01:30:04):
Well they did and that offensive line struggled, and what
happened to Caleb Williams. He looked a lot different his
final season at USC than he did the preceding year. Well,
arch Manning's going through a little bit of that. Do
I think he is? Do I think he has talent?
I absolutely do. Do I think that this season is
a representation of how how good he would.

Speaker 2 (01:30:26):
Play behind a better offensive line unit. No, I don't.

Speaker 8 (01:30:29):
I think that A part of it is the fact
that the lights are pretty bright for young guy when
he's finally handed the keys to the Ferrari and saying, hey,
you know, don't don't ding defender, We're trusting you here
and it's your job for real. As opposed to just
filling in in different spots, you know, garbage time whatever,
this is.

Speaker 2 (01:30:50):
This is a very different feeling.

Speaker 8 (01:30:51):
So yeah, he could be having some early season reaction
to that. Also, he's playing behind a really poor offensive
line and that's going to lead to some of what
you see young quarterbacks don't just get hit. They also
have a memory of being hit, and so some of
the throws that you make later in a game are
influenced by how much of a beating you took in.

Speaker 2 (01:31:13):
The first quarter, in the first half. So key on that.
If I'm Oklahoma, I'm trying to just mash Arch early
in this game. I'm trying.

Speaker 8 (01:31:23):
I'm trying to get to him, rattle his cage, make
sure he feels our presence this way, this way, later
in the first half and to start the second half.
Even when we're feigning blitz, even when we're just showing
blitz and our plan is to bail, he's hearing footsteps
around him where there aren't any, And so I think
that is a great tactic for Oklahoma to make it

(01:31:46):
to even out maybe some of the talent disparity that
there is between these two teams.

Speaker 5 (01:31:52):
Yeah, here's what I see when I watch Arch, and
I have no idea if he's injured, I cannot speak
to that. Here's what I see as someone who studies
quarterbacks on a regular basis. He is jittery with his feet. Yeah,
he is overstriding, and when you overstride, you tend to
miss low and away. You cannot control the nose of
the football.

Speaker 2 (01:32:11):
The nose of the.

Speaker 5 (01:32:11):
Football is down right. Brian mentioned it that first throw
against Ohio State, jittery, low and away, it skipped into
the receiver. It doesn't make sense though, because this is
a Manning. This kid was born with a football in
his hand. So the fact that we're talking about arch
Manning's mechanics doesn't make sense to me. That tells me
there's something going on mentally, because mechanically speaking, this kid

(01:32:36):
is about as fundamentally sound as you would expect. Now
Here is what I will say. In the game against
what was it, Sam Houston a couple weeks ago, he
took a big hit in the pocket, like mid first half.
From that point on he calmed down and settled down
a little bit. So there is kind of this like
wake up call where all of a sudden it clicks

(01:32:57):
and then he's throwing it really well. I mean, he
he's got the arm strength to fit it into tight windows,
but it's almost like he just isn't trusting his mechanics
at this point. It feels like it's a between the
ears thing he needs to go see, like a sports
psychologist or something. I don't know, but what I'd like
to see in this game is a little bit more
use your athleticism, manipulate the pocket, bootlegs, waggles, quarterback counters,

(01:33:22):
use your size. You're six four two twenty. That is
a big quarterback, and especially in the SEC. So I
think that to me is how I would approach this.
If he's just five step drop sitting in the pocket,
reading the defense, let's throw to the open man. That's
where he struggled this year. But when he's kind of
moving a little bit and you know, removing his brain

(01:33:43):
from the equation and just playing football, that's where we've
seen the best of arch Manning this season. So if
that's his strength this year, lean into that and don't
make him just play action drop back. Let's see what
the defense is giving me. There's your window. Throw it,
because when he does that, it seems like the Hannicks
are a little bit off.

Speaker 3 (01:34:01):
Yeah no, well said all that stuff for sure.

Speaker 3 (01:35:15):
All right, let's do this.

Speaker 2 (01:35:17):
Follow the money, real good money.

Speaker 6 (01:35:20):
Ah.

Speaker 4 (01:35:20):
Yes, we welcome in our good friend Seamus McGee, team
lead of Sports Trading at BEDMGM. Good morning to you, Seamus. Okay,
we dive right into it. What do you guys need
the most here at BETMGM today? What is on the
wish list?

Speaker 6 (01:35:36):
I think we have to start with the Missouri Tigers.
A lot of Alabama money coming in as a short
favorite going into Missouri, so Alabama minus three is a
pretty popular play. We're inning the Zoo coming up close though,
Illinois plus fourteen and a half and we're taking a

(01:35:57):
lot of South Carolina money today, so we kind of
like the c LSU cover nine and a half here today.

Speaker 2 (01:36:03):
Wow.

Speaker 5 (01:36:04):
Interesting. All right, let's get to the most impactful injury
of the week. It's the hand that rocks the cradle,
John Matteer, and listen, Brent Venables has done this before, right.
Dylan Gabriel had a concussion a few years ago with
Oklahoma and we didn't know he was going to play
in Red River. We thought he was. Venables was kind
of teasing us that he was and then he didn't play.

(01:36:26):
So I wouldn't be shocked if this is all a
big ruse and it isn't going to be Matier starting
today but what are you seeing with this number? And
what does the number tell us about what might happen
at the Texas State Fair today?

Speaker 6 (01:36:40):
Feels like he is implying if this is Texas binus
two and a half, which is where currently six. But
this is definitely the news of the week. I mean,
we had that's stemming all over the place with this news.
We had to move him from twenty five and the
tier twenty five to one to ten to one for
the Heisman just because we were taking all these bets,
just because the rumors that he might play this week.

(01:37:01):
But with this line movement, it feels like either he's
not playing or he's playing, but it's gonna be a
you know, take a drive or to see how it
feels and then we'll evaluate. But Texas vise two and
a half if the tier plays, I feel like this
is a pick.

Speaker 8 (01:37:18):
Them George Healthy, Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's a good point
win Healthy. It does feel like it would be a
pick them.

Speaker 2 (01:37:26):
Georgia at Auburn.

Speaker 8 (01:37:28):
Auburn, I'll tell you what I really like them up
front on both sides of the ball.

Speaker 2 (01:37:33):
Georgia obviously I don't know.

Speaker 8 (01:37:36):
I mean, their first real visit from a real team
so far this season.

Speaker 2 (01:37:41):
The spread right now, actually I don't have the updated.

Speaker 8 (01:37:44):
Number, but I know it was hovering around three to
three and a half in terms of Auburn being favored
at home. What's or excuse me, Georgia being favored on
the road. What's what you read on this game, Shamus?

Speaker 6 (01:37:57):
A sharp side appears to be Auburn so far. I
mean this opened around a touchdown. It's been beat down
to Auburn plus four where BENAMGM currently sits here. But
it's definitely public money on Georgia so far. Not the
biggest handle I would imagine so far on this game.
I think posted a kickoff, I'll start seeing the money
roll in. But I imagine we're going to need Auburn

(01:38:19):
as with Georgie b in such a short row.

Speaker 2 (01:38:21):
Favorite.

Speaker 4 (01:38:22):
How about this IU Oregon game, Seamus, where forget about
the point spread for a second. I mean not totally,
but for a second, do you buy Indiana having the
goods to the point where they're trying to punch up
a couple of weight classes going in and beating Oregon?

Speaker 3 (01:38:40):
Do you believe in them to that degree?

Speaker 6 (01:38:43):
I love the Loosiers. I think they're great. I love Signetty,
but this week I was a little worried about him.
I wasn't sure what we were going to expect up
in Austin. It's a really, really hard place to play.
I don't care what kind of team you have. But
the sharp side is Indiana. We open nine and a half,
were down to seven here, so there's definitely a lot

(01:39:03):
of reasons to believe that Indiana can go in and
you'll give them a game here in Oregon.

Speaker 5 (01:39:09):
All right, give me some good news about Penn State
because I feel like this is like the bottom of
the barrel bet today. Nobody is talking about them. Everyone
is writing them off. They are an absolute dumpster fire.
But Northwestern is not exactly elite, and like, if you
want to, you know, compare rosters. I know UCLA has
gotten a lot of flak this year, but their roster

(01:39:31):
is not bad. It was just the coaching was terrible.
I think Penn State lays a whooping on Northwestern and
I think we get back to Jimmy covers with James
Franklin today.

Speaker 6 (01:39:39):
What do you think Penn State is such a heat
of the moment team for the betting community. It's so
funny at nine times out of ten Franklin off a loss,
I'm expecting one way traffic. Penn State's going to run
up the score because they have to. We are taking
more Northwestern money. I like that decent chunk. We're going
to need Penn State to cover three touchdowns, and I'm

(01:40:00):
with you, jer, I think they could lay it on
Northwestern at home this week. I think it's going to
be a really testy crowd, but I think they're gonna
want to really turn the ties here, really run it up.

Speaker 2 (01:40:11):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (01:40:11):
I could have said the same thing last week. I
think we did. But yeah, you know, it's a different circumstances,
I suppose. But yeah, we're gonna need Penn State in
this one as it stands.

Speaker 8 (01:40:22):
Yeah, in talking about Penn State, when when I watched
this game live by the way at UCLA and I
saw a team in the Bruins who had this unbelievable
game against a team who, by all accounts they should
have lost to and by a large margin. If you
look at what the spread was, I think it settled

(01:40:43):
at twenty four and a half.

Speaker 2 (01:40:45):
What do you think about UCLA moving forward?

Speaker 8 (01:40:47):
I mean, is there is there any reason to take
a closer look at the Bruins in terms of a
team that may have a renewed energy and vigor behind
them with some of the changes that were made.

Speaker 2 (01:40:59):
At the top.

Speaker 6 (01:41:01):
I like them this week because I'm not that high
on Michigan State. I think they can go in there
and give.

Speaker 5 (01:41:06):
Them a game.

Speaker 6 (01:41:09):
Anything's possible. Nico showed us what he could do, like
at his best last week, and if that's the quarterback
you can get on a consistent basis, you'll have a
shot every week. You know, there appears to be a
lot of enthusiasms around you know, new Hocksital the O.
See that's been got a lot of talk this week.
I will see this week. I think they're pretty live

(01:41:29):
and he's lansing this week, so we'll see.

Speaker 4 (01:41:32):
All right, Seamus, it is that special time yet again?
What is your same as Shamus special this week?

Speaker 6 (01:41:39):
So last week Tolson played Elon who was seventeen to
three loss. Today they get mon missed one of the
highest powered offenses in the country. This total is sitting
at seventy seven and a half. What you bet we're
going over? We're taking the over this spread open that

(01:42:00):
ten Mama finus ten. It's down to eighth. The toll
hasn't moved all that much. If you can find a
seventy seven and a half, I think that's good. I
think Twson is actually able to score this week. Monmouth,
I think we can bank on them to put up
fifty themselves. It's just how much can we get from Towson.
I'm like the over here and I'm seeing a pretty
big move as we speak right now, So we may

(01:42:22):
have to hop on this seventy seven and a half
a we.

Speaker 3 (01:42:24):
Can Okay, wow wow, all right?

Speaker 4 (01:42:28):
Yeah real quick and bet this sort of like a
South Florida North Texas game from last night.

Speaker 3 (01:42:32):
That what we're expecting here, Seamus.

Speaker 6 (01:42:34):
That was insane. I remember watching that. I had North Texas.
I couldn't believe what I saw it forst five minutes
that second half.

Speaker 3 (01:42:41):
Yeah, wild stuff, man, no doubt. Well, hey Seamus, always
great to catch up with you, man, enjoy the day.
We'll catch you soon.

Speaker 2 (01:42:47):
Have it going guys, you too.

Speaker 4 (01:42:49):
There He is Seamus McGee, our guy, team lead of
sports trading at bet MGM. Very nice man. Just don't
say anything negative about Virginia. He'll come after you, even
even like a tongue in cheek joke, He'll come after
your juggular. He didn't mess around over there that Seamus Protexas.

Speaker 3 (01:43:06):
Who's hey?

Speaker 4 (01:43:06):
How about Ohio State at Illinois? Ohio State a road
favorite of fourteen and a half. We get this thing
going in just a half hour from now, kicking this off.
This Ohio State defense has been unbelievable all year, given
up twenty five points all season long. They've done exceptional
against everybody that they faced. My favorite stat is against Washington.

(01:43:31):
Right so, leading up to that game when Ohio State
won on the road, Washington was ranked first nationally in
points per drive and then they played Ohio State and
then they scored six points against Ohios and from first
nationally in points per drive to six total points against
this Buckey's defense. That's the first part of this. What

(01:43:52):
is the ALI and I going to be able to
do against Ohio State's defense not gonna be a whole lot.
And when you have the worst pass defense in the
Big Ten, that is not a great recipe.

Speaker 2 (01:44:03):
I know.

Speaker 4 (01:44:03):
It's a big number. Fourteen and a half. If you
had to choose rich, which slide are you on here?

Speaker 2 (01:44:09):
Man? That is a number? Huh? Look the buck guys.

Speaker 8 (01:44:15):
Heading to Illinois again, another house of horrors for Big
Ten teams in the past. Champagne is no easy place
to take the visit to. I've been there many times.
It's just a weird place to be. Ohio State, obviously,
what you said about their defense and what Matt Patricia
has done specifically as defensive coordinator after making a big

(01:44:36):
change there has been pretty special for Ohio State.

Speaker 2 (01:44:39):
They've been good Ohio or excuse me, Illinois.

Speaker 8 (01:44:43):
Hasn't looked good on defense, especially in the secondary. We
know that Saying can throw the ball and he can
find Jeremiah Smith and they have weapons on the outside.
Am I do I think Ohio State can cover the spread?

Speaker 2 (01:44:59):
Yeah? I I think they could, But.

Speaker 8 (01:45:02):
I'm I would be more comfortable taking the over in
this one. And I know that's a cop out, and
I think that Ohio State would obviously do the majority
of the work there and we could get to the
Illinois offensive Illinois offense in a second here, but I
would be more comfortable. If you think that Ohio State
is going to score, it will on Illinois. That might

(01:45:25):
be my play instead of looking at Ohio State to
win by three scores.

Speaker 5 (01:45:32):
Yeah, I don't have much on this one. To be
honest with you, I do think Ohio State's defense is
the best unit on the field. I think Illinois, based
on the numbers, they're definitely not an elite team in
any real category. I do think alt Meyer's got some
moxie to them. I like their passing game a little
bit more than I did last year. But I think

(01:45:52):
this is hammered or nail I really do. I think
Illinois when they manage up and this was the handicap
on them. This is why I was higher on some
of the other Big Ten teams on Illinois's schedule, because
I think the market really liked Illinois coming into the season,
and I wasn't sold and so like at USC, even
though I lost that game Washington a little later on

(01:46:15):
in the year, I think Illinois gettable right like Indiana
exposed them. So if the ball starts rolling down the hill,
I think that's where Illinois struggles.

Speaker 2 (01:46:26):
Now.

Speaker 5 (01:46:27):
The game against USC was very nip and talk, But
what did we see. What was the weakness for Illinois
in that game? It was they could not defend McKay
lemon like it was all over the yard. Well a
WHI I'll say it's got like three McKay lemons, Like
I mean it just so that's what scares me about Illinois.
You know, I could see them kind of trading blows

(01:46:48):
early and then bang, Jeremiah Smith or Carnell Tait or
Ennis hits one of those explosives, and it's just the
shock value of that I think, might you know, scare
Illinois straight a little bit. So my gut says Ohio
State and the under. But like I think the numbers
price correct, Like I would not be surprised if Illinois

(01:47:08):
lost by fourteen and then we're like, oh wow, like
Illinois got beat hard, but they covered the spread. So
it's just I'm not a huge I don't have a
huge opinion on this game besides the fact that Ohio
State has the best unit on the field and the
one weakness for Illinois has been that secondary and that's
where Ohio State has a strength.

Speaker 4 (01:47:24):
Yeah, I worry about that Illinois offensive line. Also, you know,
like when Altmeier is under siege against IU. You know
what I mean, It's like, Okay, we talked about like
exposing your your weaknesses.

Speaker 3 (01:47:39):
If you go into this game, you're like, Illinois.

Speaker 4 (01:47:40):
How's the offensive line not good, not good, and we're
taking on the Buckeyes. It's like, oh gosh, that could
be ugly real fast right there by the way, real fast.

Speaker 3 (01:47:49):
Why we have a couple of minutes.

Speaker 4 (01:47:50):
I don't want to drag this out, but what do
you think of the week that was for Bill Belichick
in North Carolina?

Speaker 3 (01:47:58):
My goodness? Right, Like, we've.

Speaker 4 (01:48:00):
Got joint statements from the Belichick camp and also North
Carolina's camp. We're fully committed. Belichick has our full support.
We're talking about potential buyouts. It's just wild.

Speaker 3 (01:48:13):
It's come to this.

Speaker 4 (01:48:14):
Where I saw a graphic earlier, It's been like forty
years since something like that. I'd have to actually get it.
Don't quote me on that, but it was on a
sports center with Scott Van Pelt.

Speaker 3 (01:48:27):
I'll try to get it real quick.

Speaker 4 (01:48:28):
But it's like, the last forty games before Belichick, they
had one twenty five point loss, and in five games
with Belichick they've had three losses of at least twenty
five points. It's been a complete disaster. And there are
a lot of people that are like, yeah, we knew
it was gonna work out, like this really did just

(01:48:50):
see the greatest coach in NFL history failing to this
degree and for it, like halfway through the season, we're
talking about buyouts here. It sounds silly, like no one
wants to say, Yeah, it's a bit of a surprise.
I'm surprised it's been this bad. Where do you guys
stand in the whole Belichick thing?

Speaker 2 (01:49:07):
I agree.

Speaker 8 (01:49:09):
I did not predict that when he made the move
back to college football that included with that would be
his new girlfriend having some sort of role with him
from the standpoint.

Speaker 2 (01:49:23):
Of his career as a coach. That's new.

Speaker 8 (01:49:27):
The fact that he has, you know, it seems very
personally taken up arms against the Patriots either having access
to players at UNC or having the football program be
supportive of arguably one of UNC's best players to leave

(01:49:48):
in recent memory. That's all very strange. So there's a
lot of boxes on my bingo card that have been
checked off or stamped this season with Bill Belichick heading
to Chapel Hill that I did not expect to be
champ checked off. He is a Super Bowl champ many
times over. He is inarguably the smartest football mind I've

(01:50:12):
ever been around. I played for the Patriots for three
years when we were in the thick of that dynasty.

Speaker 2 (01:50:20):
And it really.

Speaker 8 (01:50:22):
Feels odd how distant all of this feels to.

Speaker 2 (01:50:27):
How all that felt when I was there.

Speaker 8 (01:50:30):
So a very confusing opening salvo to his collegiate head
coaching career.

Speaker 5 (01:50:37):
Yeah, my first bet in the summer was UNC under
seven and a half wins. I think there is and
I couldn't have imagined it going this poorly. I don't
think anyone could have. But this week was kind of
an eye opener for me because I worked in college
athletics for a long time in the promotions and the

(01:50:57):
information department, and my job was to promote the program.
When a player moved on to another team or a
professional team and he played well, my job was to
literally blast that out and scream it from the mountaintops.
Look at how great a kid from this program can

(01:51:19):
perform at a higher level. And when Bill is suppressing
that because he has a feud against the Patriots, and
it just so happens that Drake May plays for the Patriots,
Drake May went into Buffalo and beat the defending MVP. Yeah,
outplayed them blow for blow. If I'm North Carolina and

(01:51:41):
their sports information department, I am screaming that from the
mountaintops to every recruit, especially quarterback recruit that will listen.
But it was silent because Bill has this feud with
North Carolina. In my opinion, he is unfit to coach
college football, unfit to be a college coach because about

(01:52:02):
college sports, it's more about the program than it is
the person. Yeah, but in college sports, right now at UNC,
it's about Bill and not about the tar Heels. And
right now, at some point, UNC's going to have to
decide what's best for the program and what's best for Bill,

(01:52:22):
because right now those two things are not aligned.

Speaker 3 (01:52:25):
Yeah, it's crazy.

Speaker 4 (01:52:26):
I don't know who kidnapped Bill Belichick and replaced them
with whoever this impost is.

Speaker 3 (01:52:30):
But I don't recognize this guy at all.

Speaker 4 (01:52:33):
Like you think about his whole approach to football, it's
like two key catchphrases. It was do your job and
no days off, right, Like, that's the Bill Belichick whole mo.
And in the bye week he flew off to Nantucket
with his girlfriend. Unbelievable, And it's like what some might
look at that and be like, yeah, it's the bye week,

(01:52:53):
big deal. They're falling apart, they're ripping apart at the seams.
You know this, This team is a collacor and he's
flying offter in a bye week. That's not the Belichick
I know at all. And that's where we're at. I
boggled this. I bungled the staff stat if you will,
my goodness. So this goes back to twenty nineteen at

(01:53:15):
North Carolina. Seventy eight games before Belichick one twenty five
point loss, Okay, five games with Belichick, three twenty five
point losses.

Speaker 3 (01:53:25):
So it's a little.

Speaker 4 (01:53:27):
Bigger sample size before Belichick, which puts into perspective like
where the program was now where it is. They got
crushed by TCU, they got crushed by UCF, and they
got crushed by Clemson, who's been brutal this season. So
that's where North Carolina is. And don't look now, but
the Irish are still on the schedule for North Carolina.

(01:53:48):
It only get worse, you know, but wild stuff right there.
In any case, we move it forward to today. We
have a rapid fire selections right around the corner with

Speaker 2 (01:55:25):
Rapid fire.

Speaker 3 (01:55:27):
All right, this is where.

Speaker 4 (01:55:29):
We we distance ourselves from last week, no rally.

Speaker 3 (01:55:34):
We give you winners here, Jared, we start with you.

Speaker 2 (01:55:36):
What do you like?

Speaker 5 (01:55:37):
Let's start with Old Dominion, Old Dominion. Who the heck
are they? They've been really good this year. Top five
and net Yard's were played coming off a forty point
whooping over Coastal. They're at Marshall today. Marshall isn't any good.
They had a ton of kids leave in the portal
after Charles hoff bolt at the Southern Miss That is
more of a factor later on in the air, and
you're starting to see it rear. It's uglyhead. They gave

(01:55:59):
up fifty four points Stelapiete last week. We're laying fourteen
and a half of Old Dominion. Obviously, I've got a
late three and a half with Bama here at Missoo.
This has been hot to trot on the tide all
week long. I think this is Ty Simpson's time to shine.
Jan Miller finally got going last week. The d shut
out the Doors in the second half. This might be
the game where you finally wake up and say, oh man,
Ty Simpsons best quarterback in college football. I think Bama

(01:56:21):
covers the number at Missoo and I'll take the over
fifty three and a half in Oregon and Indiana. I
don't trust the Ducks secondary. They haven't faced the power
for top eighty passing offense yet. When fence they finally
woke up a couple of weeks ago, they were slicing
and dicing the Ducks like it was Skeee Kings Duck.
I think they should be able to stay on schedule
Indiana's offense because they like to get the ball out fast,

(01:56:43):
and I think Oregan's going to sustain a bunch of drives.
So points points points over fifty three and a half
Oregon Indiana.

Speaker 8 (01:56:48):
Yeah, I was this close to taking the over on
that game as well. Jared and I, However, we do
have a little bit of a fork in the road here.

Speaker 2 (01:56:56):
He likes Bama, I like Missoo.

Speaker 8 (01:56:58):
I took Massou on the money line earlier on the
parlay platter.

Speaker 2 (01:57:04):
I'm gonna take the points here. And here's the reason why.
On rapid fire, we just need wins.

Speaker 8 (01:57:08):
So if you're not as sold on Missou as I am,
you can take the points because Vama's got a win
by a touchdown not a field goal here, So you
get a little wiggle room with the hook plus three
and a half for Missouri hosting the Crimson time you
heard Jamis talk about it.

Speaker 2 (01:57:23):
The reason why I asked him.

Speaker 8 (01:57:24):
About it was because I'm curious about UCLA. Do I
think they get the win on the road dogged by
seven and a half against Michigan State. No, not necessarily,
but belief is a hell of a drug, and right
now the Bruins believe in themselves.

Speaker 2 (01:57:38):
Do I think they keep it close with Sparty? Yes?
I do.

Speaker 8 (01:57:41):
Give me the plus seven and a half for the
Bruins on the road in the Big ten Arkansas, First Tennessee.
This is where I took the over sixty eight and
a half.

Speaker 2 (01:57:52):
It may sail past this.

Speaker 8 (01:57:54):
None of these teams play any defense, and they've got
a lot of talent offensively.

Speaker 2 (01:57:59):
Give me the we're on the huge total, all right.

Speaker 4 (01:58:02):
Okay, Uh, you know I'm gonna go with Uh. I'm
gonna go with the first half under. Here give me
Oklahoma Texas under twenty one and a half points. I
just I don't buy that Matier is playing like the
whole game. It is unaffected and looks like John Mattire.
Really interesting development. So the the side has the money

(01:58:25):
has gone toward Texas. They're now favored by two and
a half.

Speaker 3 (01:58:28):
How about this.

Speaker 4 (01:58:29):
There's a John Matteir prop bet posted on bet MGM
right now. His passing yards is at two oh seven
and a half. So wow, I don't know I'm running.
I'm chasing my tailor. I don't think he's playing now.

Speaker 3 (01:58:42):
He might be playing.

Speaker 2 (01:58:42):
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (01:58:43):
If he plays one driving and leaves, you win that
bet absolutely unless he gets two hundred yards on the
first drive, which is obviously in bob right, I.

Speaker 4 (01:58:50):
Think there's only one way to play that prop is
the under, and he might not play at all and
it's you.

Speaker 5 (01:58:55):
Know, it's no energy, get your money back.

Speaker 4 (01:58:57):
Yeah, yeah, I'll go with under twenty one and a
half in the first half. I just don't think Materia
is playing like normal, and I think this is a
rock 'em soccam type game. Give me, sorry, Rich, give
me Nevada plus seven. Oh, now, the Aztecs, they could
win this game, but Nevada plays good rush defense.

Speaker 3 (01:59:15):
That's what San Diego State wants to do.

Speaker 4 (01:59:17):
They want to run, run, run, run, and when Nevada
is pretty good against the run, I'll take seven points.
That's a lot in this matchup late late night, and
I will break the tie. Give me those heski smash
mouth yack right yards after contact, Missouri Tigers. Give me
a plus three and a half against Bama. I think

(01:59:38):
the bully gets bullied a little bit today Island today, Yeah,
I like being on Jared Islands, right.

Speaker 2 (01:59:46):
That's right.

Speaker 3 (01:59:46):
Well, hey, everybody enjoyed the action.

Speaker 4 (01:59:49):
Lots of great stuff going on today, and we will
reconvene that
