Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Ah, Yes, greetings, welcome in. It's another beautiful Fox Sports
Sunday here Fox Sports Radio. Another day to get out
there and do something great, even IF's only in your
own mind. Hi, Mike Carmon, alongside my gut Ryan Hollins,
ten years in the National Basketball Association, will be leaning
it heavily into a lot of stories tonight and well

(00:25):
early this morning, I should say it feels like the
overnight and we will do our best to put Ryan
in a corner as a former player and a guy
who works around the league to see how quickly he
gets mad at me for some of these stories that
we have to raise that are in our NBA cycle
for the day. You find him on Twitter at the
Ryan Hollins find me over at Swollen Dome as we

(00:46):
come to you live from the tirak dot com studios
tirerac dot com. We'll help you get there an unmatched selection, fast,
free shipping, free road hazard protection and over ten thousand
recommended installers tyre raq dot com the way tire buying
should be.

Speaker 3 (00:59):
Because this is the beauty of it, right.

Speaker 2 (01:00):
Sometimes you have to have those uncomfortable conversations with friends, relatives,
you know, your immediate family members about things in their lives.

Speaker 3 (01:09):
This one just.

Speaker 2 (01:10):
Goes a bunch of stories of the NBA, which with
which you are affiliated.

Speaker 3 (01:14):
But it's not personal, it's just business.

Speaker 4 (01:17):
That's good. Hey, I'm fine with that. I trust your
jetsro Man.

Speaker 2 (01:21):
Well, you know we'll keep it clean for the for
the radio audience, and you know, so that you don't
come and start swinging haymakers over there, you will save
that be for you. And Isaac lohen Krown a little
later as he joined us, as he does each and
every Sunday, he's already warming up in the bullpen. He's
shadow boxing the wall and it's it's good because he's

(01:42):
got some reach. He's a bit taller, so that'll be
a fair fight.

Speaker 3 (01:46):
We've got Ian and.

Speaker 2 (01:47):
We've got Chris making a sound so pretty. We got
f one from Monaco. We just saw an interview with
Michael Douglas. Always good to see the luminaries out and
about getting there. And my daughter ahead of a soccer
game will no doubt be watching that. So not a
bad pregame ritual as it were, or maybe just watching
a bunch of NBA highlights and watching Al Horford once

(02:10):
again rain three point shots and then Drew Holliday comes
up big when it matters most, and we start here
another eighteen point lead lost, Ryan Hollins, I know the
three point shot and everything we've talked about, but mentally,
I don't know how you respond after a game like that.

(02:32):
The old hey, we'll just flush it and move on
is a difficult proposition, obviously, with the Pacers trying to
do something now that no team has ever done, and
we don't know that Halliburton would come back no matter
how far they extend this series. But another game that
got away, that's two out of three. You had them,
you knew who they were, and you let them off
the hook. And now the Celtics have a three zero lead.

Speaker 4 (02:54):
Yeah, it's absolutely backbreaking, and that's pretty much the series.
I think that they'll come out and get that. Indiana
will get that last game at home. They'll play hard,
they'll be spirited, they'll know there's nothing to hang their
hat on, hang their head on. But I mean, you
play great even without Halliburton, and you have some great
performances and you just come up short. And when those

(03:17):
things happen, there's there's no way really to respond because
three to zero is pretty much impossible. You already up
against it, and that was the make or break game
that you had to have. And seemingly again everything goes right,
but to finish, and for Indiana they're far. I had
a schedule and unfortunately we know, like you mentioned Halliburton missing.

(03:39):
But when you blow that type of lead man, because
here's the thing about the Celtics that we've seen also,
they're up and down. So when they have their down games,
you have to capitalize, and they were not able to capitalize,
and those are the moments where you gotta finish, you
gotta come home with the victor.

Speaker 3 (04:00):
Well, we talked about it during the week.

Speaker 2 (04:02):
You joined Jason Smith and I in the evening and
we were talking about the game one collapse and decisions made,
decisions terribly made in a lot of circumstance in ten
seconds that will live in infamy there in Indiana, no
question about it. The choice not to call a time
out from Rick Carlisle and after the game immediately went

(04:24):
to the Yeah, in hindsight, should have taken the time out,
advanced the ball, given us a better opportunity. Instead of
having Siakam trying to battle back towards your own basket
and eventually losing the ball on the out of bounce
play setting up the Jalen Brown three point shot. Well,
yet another opportunity here with eight seconds left to call
a play to settle it down, and once again they

(04:47):
opted to trigger it and just put the ball back
into play and Holiday comes up with a big steal.
So lessons not learn stubbornness coaching decision thinking you've got
them on their heels. Watching that replay multiple times, I'm
just having flashbacks to all the things that went wrong
in game one and history repeating itself just several days later.

Speaker 4 (05:09):
Yeah, you know, I have a different take on that.
I don't blame break. I don't And I understand why
he didn't take the time out because people have to understand.
For one, it's about knowing your players, your best guy.
Halliburton's not out there.

Speaker 2 (05:24):
Yeah, but it wasn't there all game.

Speaker 4 (05:25):
He was not. But here's the reason why I don't
blame him. The reason I don't blame him is because
it's not about just getting your offense set. You can
look back and say, oh, man, I should have called
that time out. The problem is in those situations they
get their defense set, and with their defense not set
in transition, sometimes it's the best chance to go. Here's

(05:47):
the thing about nim Hart. He has drawn that foul
several times and at first glance you think it's a foul.
When you go back and look, it's one of the
great Listen, we always give the referees a bunch of
you know, mess right, and you know, don't agree with
them all those things. That was a heck of a

(06:08):
no call from the referees because when you went back
and you go back and look, true, holiday, man, he
makes an unbelievable play on the ball, Like like the
defensive play that he made was I don't know too
many guys who could actually make that play. It was amazing.
I mean he slid his feet, kept his hands high

(06:29):
and it was man, it was a legitimate no call.
I mean that play that he made was literally unbelievable.

Speaker 2 (06:36):
Well, if nothing else, we would have done, you know,
another fifteen reviews. Yeah, but and then since we didn't
call the fall like with the Kyrie, you get deeper
into that in a minute. No, I agree with you, no,
but I mean it moves so fast. And that's the thing,
you know, when we pull it back, it's it's always
the all right, we have to be cognizant of the
fact that these guys have to try to do it
live with a bunch of six ten seven guys in

(07:00):
close confined areas.

Speaker 3 (07:02):
Did he get a body? Did he get you know,
a piece of the hand?

Speaker 5 (07:05):
Right?

Speaker 2 (07:06):
You have the take fall at the end, you know,
and a lot of debate, well did he did he not?
What's the spirit of that rule versus how we actually
adjudicate it on a game to game basis, Right, is
it really a clear path? Do you have to do
something more egregious then reach out and grab the guy,
you know, unlike Rudy Gobert punching Luca in the gut

(07:28):
and rib cage the other day that woke him up
and gave him that second half.

Speaker 3 (07:32):
That's job Rudy.

Speaker 2 (07:33):
But it's the and for Nemhart, obviously, the the easy
jokes came out of yesterday's game is that he did
a lot of the great things that Haliburton would normally do,
and then he turned the ball over in the final
seconds just like Haliburton had done.

Speaker 3 (07:48):
It's a cruel world.

Speaker 2 (07:49):
Yeah, I mean it's a crul world.

Speaker 3 (07:50):
I mean, what are you gonna do?

Speaker 2 (07:52):
The parallels were there, but you know, you tell me,
you get you know, thirty two out of him and
then twenty three from McConnell off the bench, and they're like, wow,
you know that's that's more production than you could possibly
ever ponder there. I do like the fact that Doug
McDermott got four minutes in the game as well, so
Mick buckets still getting out there one to one from

(08:14):
the field. But you know, another one of those just
great efforts. And we talked about it going into the series.
You know, all of the the yellow Brick Road as
it was for the the Boston Celtics in their path
with the number of stars missing.

Speaker 3 (08:29):
Now it lines up.

Speaker 2 (08:30):
Halliburton's not there, and you know he's got had some
growing pains in some of these games, but overall, I mean,
you see how good he is gamed to game and
how much he's grown and what he's got for Rick Carlisle.

Speaker 3 (08:42):
And two of these three games the.

Speaker 2 (08:44):
Celtics gave them opportunities to go and take it and
instead now we're right at the Emerald City for one
more game to finish this off. I like the Rick
Carlile quote, We'll gave it up in a little while,
because I mean he was testy, he ran that football
play at the end and got mad at reporters and
whatever else. It's like, no, that's fine, that's all fine

(09:05):
and good Ryan, But you know, to have two games
like that where the Celtics and look they came and
took it right, it's it's you'd got to decide which
path you're going down the glass half empty, which is
sometimes more fun because our teams aren't playing it's misery
loves company, or do you say, well, we're going to
just stalk you down bit by bit. That's exactly what

(09:27):
Boston's done in two of these games. And down eighteen yesterday,
down nine going into the fourth quarter, and then you
just see the heroics. No matter how poorly they had
shot from three for a long stretch at the time,
they still finish sixteen for forty six from the game.
Thirty five percent isn't overwhelming, but they hit them when
it mattered.

Speaker 4 (09:48):
No, they did. And you know, for Boston again, you know,
they've got to find a way to not be so
up and down, and you got to be fearful because
they through reality. If that's not if Indiana is not
as young as they are, they're cooked man like like like,
the Celtics are not going to be champs if they

(10:12):
play like that, if they have those type of performances,
they are not gonna be what they want to be.
If you do that, you know against the Dallas Mavericks,
per se, you ain't coming back from down twenty. You know,
you do that against the Minnesota Timberwolves, they're not gonna

(10:34):
blow that type of lead. You gotta take advantage. And
you're looking at the Celtics, And here's the truth. They
would be down what to one right now if they
don't expections of a game. The Celtics would be down
to one if they were playing a better team. And
I'm not saying that Indiana's not that Indiana's a really

(10:54):
good team, okay, make no mistake, but they would be
down okay, and and and that's the truth of the matter.
So the Celtics have to kind of figure things out.
And at the end of the day, you can say
you have button if it maybe, but they're playing with
fire right now and unfortunately, you know, they're not being
tested against Milwaukee, they're not being tested, you know, against Philadelphia,

(11:21):
healthy Philadelphia. The Eastern Conference has been riddled with injuries.

Speaker 3 (11:25):
Sojammy Cleveland, all these teams missing most.

Speaker 4 (11:28):
Team exactly, they're not being tested the way they should
be tested. And you don't want to fault them for
that at the end of the day. But the glass
half empty in that scenario is, Hey, you're going to
play a team that's more qualified than the teams that
you've been playing against, and are you going to be
able to meet the challenge? Because right now you're playing

(11:48):
an overachieving Indiana team that is going to be around
for a very long time by the looks of it.
You get a healthy Haliburton, but man, you got to
be careful if you're a Celtic.

Speaker 3 (12:01):
He's Ryan Hollins on my car. Let's continue with that
as we roll on here.

blast here in studio being able to witness such things
at six o'clock in the morning, West Coast.

Speaker 4 (14:48):
Hey man, you know, it's a sport. People know what
they sign up for.

Speaker 2 (14:51):
No, that's it, right, See if you can avoid the
fray and see if the usual suspects come rolling in.

Speaker 3 (14:58):
We'll keep an eye on that race as we go.

Speaker 2 (15:00):
Obviously we've got NASCAR later on tonight on Fox, a
bunch of baseball games, so much going on English Premier
League as well, but we're talking about the Celtics and
the Pacers. I wanted to take it back to the
larger macro.

Speaker 3 (15:14):
View of the NBA.

Speaker 2 (15:15):
Ryan, You've been around this league a long time as
a player now a broadcaster, and the highs and lows
that you have in seasons. You know, some teams that
you were with, you know, you had big runs and
you showed up in movies. Other teams not so much.
And it becomes a daily slog, right, those kind of things.
But when we look at at playoff basketball. You know

(15:36):
a lot of times it's the all right, this team
maybe underachieving regular season doesn't mean as much. We get
in all our load management talk and fight about that
and all, and then we get to the playoffs, like, oh,
they'll flip the switch, and even within series it's the
all right, well they're kind of down, and the Celtics
are the team that really are a great case, I
think in terms of sports psychology, based on the xpecations

(16:00):
that we had for this team after last year, right,
will they break up Brown and Tatum? Will they not
missoulas you had some lunatic fringe calling for his firing,
because well, that's what we do. We love to see
things change out so often and find reasons why because
it gives us talking points. But you know, you have
these games, narrow misses, and from the Indiana side, right

(16:24):
now they're down three to zero, but Rick Carlisle with
this fiery speech and you give up an eighteen point lead,
and the talking point is always, ah, well, you know
you just let it go and move on. I don't
know the human nature of being able to have anything
in your life that's that close get taken away or
given away depending on your perspective and being able to

(16:47):
just say, yeah, I forget, it's a new day.

Speaker 4 (16:51):
Look here, here's the thing again. Like I said, the
Celtics there are gonna be best team in the NBA.
And you know, if they take care of business, they should.
They should. I don't know if they will, they should
win the NBA Championship. And at the end of the day,
with the Pacers, you don't want to make excuses, but

(17:13):
there's excuses. Indiana has had an amazing season. They are
far ahead of schedule and there's not any frustration or
anything bad that anybody can say. You know about them
at the end of the day, but when you go
to the podium, you're gonna be held accountable. And what
I do respect about Rick, and I played for Rick

(17:35):
over in Dallas, is that he's not gonna throw his
guys under the bus. And he knows what went on.
He knows that, hey, that's a playton Emhr could have made.
He knows that he doesn't have his guy Haliburton over there,
and he's not gonna, you know, he doesn't want to
make a fuss about it. And yeah, there's frustration because
you said, Mike, you come literally that close. You come

(17:57):
literally that close to winning and you couldn't you know,
follow through. So I get it. I can understand, I
can I can feel the frustration. But yeah, they they
dropped the ball. They were that close and twice and
you know, as much as we'd like to say that,
you know, the Celtics, you know dropped the ball. Hey

(18:19):
maybe they didn't take him serious enough and and likely
probably they didn't. But at the end of the day,
we just talked about earlier. Those are things that the
Celtics have to figure out. But I understand. Man. Of
course there's gonna be frustration there from Rick Carlisle, as
he should. But at the end of the day, he
knows that he's got to be happy for his guys
and they've been playing absolutely amazing.

Speaker 2 (18:39):
Well, let me take like, just go into a locker
room right after a game like that, right, Carlisle does
the stuff at the podium and that's fine, right, everything
you would expect and to your point, right, he has
the look of Mark Strong. Everybody can look up the
great character actor Mark Strong. Maybe you've watched The Kingsman,
maybe you watched Shazam. He was the villain in there

(19:00):
at see I'm trying to bring the people with the
kids in as well. Maybe maybe you watch that one,
all of those things Ryan, But after again like that,
what what's what's a locker room feel like? You know,
is in terms of their psychology of you know, we
we let them off off the hook when we we
had this team that everybody predicted such great things, the

(19:21):
overwhelming odds.

Speaker 3 (19:22):
I mean, everybody reads the press clippings.

Speaker 2 (19:24):
We know they they argue time and time again they
don't but in the in this type of circumstance, and yeah,
it's three to zero. But just you know, take me
back to to any game, you know, down the stretch
you're you're jockeying for playoff seating or or early early
round or whatever. Like how much different is that locker
room after a game like that? Or do guys just

(19:47):
you know, are they able to compartmentalize it?

Speaker 4 (19:49):
Man, it's it's a lot of silence. And I will
say probably the closest experience I had to what the
Pacers felt like, and maybe even worse. We were playing Memphis, okay,
and this was Paul Gasol, Mike Conley and those guys,
and we were up two zero on Memphis, and Memphis

(20:11):
was really was the rival because if you think about it,
the you know, the Clippers were up, excuse me, they
were down, and they think it was like a twenty
one point comeback that they had. And you know in
Memphis with Nick Young and those guys, they played well.
But Memphis was really the rival at the time. And
what ends up happening is we going to lose game three,

(20:33):
Game four, game five. We and I'm saying it to
say by the time that we got all the way
down to losing game, we lost four in a row.
But the third loss in a row, we knew we
were had and it was just silence. And everybody wants

(20:54):
to be positive due to the first two losses, okay, okay,
and the third loss, you know, only the only thing
on your mind. What you're thinking about is your game
away from elimination, you know, your game away from elimination,
and how we've dropped the ball in the momentum had
swunk towards the sides of Memphis. Soji, answer your question
more again, it's silent in that locker room. There's a

(21:17):
lot of frustration going on and you're trying to figure out, man,
what just happened.

Speaker 2 (21:23):
So does that end up freeing guys more? Will you
come out to the next game, Hey, this is it
and you just leave it all out or how many
how your experience guys kind of turtling and be like, yeah,
it's inevitable.

Speaker 3 (21:35):
Like the Fano snap.

Speaker 4 (21:37):
It would be really hard for them to come out
if the Celtics jump on them early. And that's what
we'd be saying in the locker room. Jump on it early,
don't play around, and they come out and they're ready,
they should win that game because for Indiana, they're not
playing for anything other than their fans. And if they

(21:57):
win that game, that means that their home fans are
just being behind them, they're supporting them, they're down with them,
and that that home crowd brings them to a win.
That that's the reality, because you're you're shooking, you're shooking
in those situations and there's not you know, there's not
much left. There's the frustration set in. Uh, You're you're

(22:18):
pretty much out of it, man. And again, you you
really have to leave it to the fans. Your home
fans got to give you, you know, the momentum in
the life. And that situation, and you know you may
have a chance to go and get that.

Speaker 2 (22:33):
Game, try to get off to the big start once again,
and then see if you can hold the reins and
get you across the finish line. Yeah, race, come on now,
let's finish.

Speaker 4 (22:48):
And you know, if you're Rick Carlisle, you know your
speeches that I played for Rick again said earlier, your
speech in there is that why not? Why can't it
be us? Let's let's go make history. We're gonna do it,
one possession at a time, one game at a time.
We've shown that there we're the better team and we
just haven't played like it. Let's go put things together.

(23:10):
They're not who we are and let let's win. They're
not interested. Make them take it serious. And here's the thing, man,
whatever Rick has been doing in that locker room, man,
it's been spectacular because Indiana, if anything, Man, they're tough
as nows. They believe they're fighting there. Man, there's a
lot of grit and I just think that, you know,

(23:31):
this is a team that went out and played in
the Bubble. I don't know, I want want to call
it the Bubble Championship, the playing tournament, you know, I
said Oh, it's the playing tournament. Nobody wants to show up. Well, hey,
they're in the Eastern Conference finals, and I think it's
about time we start giving this team a lot more
respect than they deserve. And I think they showed it.
So I don't want to jump jump on them because

(23:53):
they're overachieving right now. But at the end of the day, man,
you got to give a lot of respect to what
the Pacers are doing.

Speaker 2 (24:00):
Yeah, I mean, sometimes the path just opens up for you,
right Injuries happen, and you and I were talking about
it last week. It's the resounding theme of the playoffs,
the number of guys and guys that we would call
stars or superstars that have missed significant amounts time. And
sometimes you're on the positive side of that, and you
don't you shouldn't apologize for it. Right the basketball God's

(24:22):
done shown on you for a spell, and certainly in
the Eastern Conference, it was the expectation that the Celtics
would walk pretty easily towards the NBA Finals. If you
can give them a hiccup along the way and a
couple of scares, I mean, you've done your job and
then you build from there. But here's the end of
Rick Carlisle. I referenced this a couple of times. I
just love this final quote after he got fiery when

(24:44):
they were asking about the football inbounds play and where
that was. He got mad at the reporters like, you want.

Speaker 3 (24:50):
Me to just give you the playbook? You want to
be just get into that, and then he finished.

Speaker 4 (24:53):
With this, we got another game in front of them
to go after these guys. And believe me when I
tell you we are going after them.

Speaker 2 (25:01):
We're coming for you. That's like a guy and I,
you know Mel Gibson going back to ransom, get it
back by Son.

Speaker 3 (25:10):
We're coming for you.

Speaker 2 (25:11):
We got one more game. We're not letting you off.

Speaker 3 (25:13):
Fuck.

Speaker 2 (25:14):
But yeah, I got fired up talking about the greatest fans,
the greatest arena, the field house. Heard some discussions about
fieldhouses and stuff got a little weird and sideways at times,
but just the idea, Yeah, you've got a great fan
base that you want to show out for. They've shown
you great support, so the fact that you draw them in,

(25:35):
it's like, hey, we love you fans. In other words,
if we get swept, don't turn on us.

Speaker 4 (25:40):
Yeah, no, he gets it, and it's about their fans, man,
But I can't remember the last time, Man, Indiana's been
rocking like that. And you know that is that is
a they love basketball Indiana though. That is like basketball,
like basketball is life over there. So they're they're behind

(26:02):
their Pacers, man, there's no question there. And you know
Rick is trying to rally the troops man, and and
again he's done a heck of a job this season
with the Pacers, So I get it, Man, I get it.
There's a lot like like Mike, have you seen have
you when they pan through the crowd, like, I mean,
it is work going on over there. Man. The base was, Yeah,

(26:23):
they're going, They're going at it, and you know they'll
be ready. And man, I'm telling you, you know you
can even attribute was it eighteen or twenty points they
were up? That was the fans. That was the fans.
And they're gonna come back with that same life. And Man,
Indiana and some of these these these these new blood teams, Man,
look at them, Look the Mavericks. Look at the excitement

(26:45):
over there. Look at Oklahoma City. How they were rocking. Man,
these fan bases have been starved for some playoff action
and they are showing out man, I think that's it's
not just the teams. It is understated that the crowds
and the fans that have been coming out. That's that's
the best part about this playoffs. Hey New York Goodness.

Speaker 2 (27:06):
Activated right, activated after twenty five years?

Speaker 4 (27:10):
Yeah yeah, Jason right screaming out during a segment.

Speaker 2 (27:13):
Yeah, that was that was something I want.

Speaker 4 (27:17):
Yelp Well was a screamer like Yelp.

Speaker 3 (27:20):
Was running down the hallway. It was that was embarrassing.

Speaker 4 (27:25):
I was buught a hamstring.

Speaker 2 (27:27):
I mean, look, but he almost blew out my ear
drum like I never experienced anything that loud and for him,
and it's it's a running joke on the show. I
do seven to eleven weeknights Pacific time with Jason Smith here.

Speaker 4 (27:39):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (27:40):
And you know one of the things that I always
say in this business, Uh, you became a fan and
you wanted to get into this business because you were
a fan. So when you're in this business, you can
tell me too you're blue in the face. No, no, no,
I'm a journalist. I don't I know root for teams.
I say you're a liar and that you're a good
actor for your three hours or four hours or whatever

(28:01):
you're doing TV and radio every game. You have a player,
you have a coach, you have a team with which
you still have a strong affinity. Jason wears it honestly. Look,
I'm a Chicago guy. I got a Bears jacket sitting
next to me, and the White Sox right now infuriate
me every day to keep me going right, It's what
as a fan you do. But for Jason and his

(28:22):
Nicks and the run they were on as improbable as
it may have been a time, because it was the
old Monty Python sketch right where you got the Knight
who's having limbs hacked off and he's still calling, Ah,
you coward, you check in, Come on, still fight me.
I mean that was the Knicks at the end, including
Jalen Brunson finishing with a broken hand. Wish that on nobody.
But obviously, when we talk about the you know, Shakespearean

(28:46):
tragedy that became the end of their year with the
number of walking wounded, it was only appropriate that that's
that was how it ended. But you just saw all
the as we called them, the classic Knicks all out
there right, the guys from twenty five thirty years ago,
the names, the basketball cards you collected, the guys you
hated because they were beating up on Michael Jordan or whatever,
and that plays rocking was fantastic. All of the new

(29:09):
blood and new teams in the playoffs. Ryan, I agree
with you one hundred percent. This is the best thing
the NBA could have hoped for. Right, Maybe some new
stars emerged and you get some storylines that get a
little bit untoorn and out of whack, and because we
like hyperbole, suddenly Anthony Edwards is Michael Jordan and all
of those things, because you know, we need the best

(29:30):
hot take and someone's got to fit the suit. But
what it does is teams that haven't been in it
for a while. Hey, guess what now you got maybe
a new little generation of fans, right, the dads, the grandpas,
the uncles, the aunts, moms, whoever. That's getting the kid
in front of a TV to watch a team that's
relevant again for the first time in forever, and you
can throw back to when they were good once upon

(29:52):
a time and where your fandom started.

Speaker 4 (29:56):
Yeah, no, you're right about that, man, And again you're right,
you know, and for us absolutely, you know, fans of
the game and that's where it started. That's what it
you know, what it's about. So man, that the excitement
is absolutely there. Look, there's no question with that.

Speaker 2 (30:12):
Yeah, that promo that we have with Smith screaming, though
I think they they actually edited the audio to take
his decibels down because it may hurt your ears.

Speaker 3 (30:22):
That may not be FCC compliant.

Speaker 2 (30:25):
The level high level at which he screamed like a
lunatic on a big three point shot.

Speaker 4 (30:30):
So you do call it a screaming, not a yelp.
It was a scream.

Speaker 2 (30:33):
Yeah, No, it's because it went on for a long time.
I mean, that's that's truncated for a promo. The thing
that you hear across Fox Sports Radio, the iHeartRadio app
et cetera. One of the sound bites, you know, teasing
our show is is Jason scream right talking about the
glory of the playoffs. And that's what we try to
encapsulate here, right, you know, guys behind the glass, we

(30:55):
all have our affinities, right, Ian Roddy's gonna be ready
for Jets and so he and Jason are gonna be
insufferable talking together. Chris Purfett does work and has been
working on Detroit Lions stuff, Detroit football, European soccer, all
of that stuff at Chris Prefet where you find him there,
Like you know, it's it's passion that drives us here.
Ilo works, you know, for the angel City FC squad,

(31:19):
as well as the Los Angeles Chargers, who are ushering
in a new era with Harbaugh.

Speaker 4 (31:24):
Me.

Speaker 2 (31:24):
I'm just a dope, wishing, wanting, hoping that my Chicago
teams actually make it beyond a month before I'm going,
all right.

Speaker 3 (31:31):
What's next?

Speaker 4 (31:35):
Hopeful with your quarterbacks?

Speaker 3 (31:38):
Well, there's a lot to talk about.

Speaker 2 (31:40):
I'm a little afraid that the situation has been overweighted
by people jumping on said bandwagon. But it's been empty
a while, so that's a good thing. I mentioned Isaac
lowancrod it I would be remiss if I didn't turn
the microphone over to him giants stick microphone, like he
would Drew Carret to lead us through what's trending in
our sporting.

Speaker 9 (31:58):
Universe among the things trending and good morning Fellas a
wild wild NFL off season story. We'll get to that
in a moment, but up first, indeed, Game three of
the NBA's Eastern Conference Finals Saturday, night saw the Boston
Celtics rally from eighteen down with five forty eight left
in the third to win at Indiana one, fourteen to one,
eleven for a three games to none lead. Drew holiday

(32:20):
to go, had three point play with thirty eight seconds
to go, and then the clinching steel and free throws
in the final seconds. In Game two of the NHL's
Western Conference Final Saturday night, the Dallas Stars defeated the
Edmonton Oilers three to one. That series tied at one.
Baseball Saturday night, Yankees won at San Diego four to one.
They're on a four game winning streak. Aaron Judge has

(32:40):
homered in all four games. Cleveland defeated the Angels in
Anaheim four to three. Cleveland on an eight game winning streak.
Philly scored six in the top of the ninth Innington
win at Colorado eight to four, Diamondbacks over the Marlins
three to two.

Speaker 10 (32:53):
Arizona has won eleven of eighteen.

Speaker 9 (32:55):
Finally, the NFL offseason literally turned wild for Miami Dolphins
linebacker Jalen Phillips as he found a large iguana in
his toilets.

Speaker 5 (33:08):
There we go.

Speaker 9 (33:09):
Here's how it sounded on Instagram. Listen closely.

Speaker 11 (33:14):
How the hell did he get in there? That man
is bathing in my toilet and he's not a pet.

Speaker 4 (33:20):
I don't know where he came from.

Speaker 5 (33:22):
It's a grown man.

Speaker 11 (33:23):
I had to call the exterminator one hundred and fifty
dollars to get this man out of here. You must
be evicted, my friend, y'ren not in the right place.
I just want to know if he came up through
there like a ninja turtle, or if he was living
in the garage or something, because that's something I got
to think about. I don't know what's going on. The
bro's huge, rose massive.

Speaker 4 (33:45):
He's right.

Speaker 9 (33:45):
The iguana was the size of about approximately the width
of the toilet bowl. When asked for comment, the iguana
did not say anything back to you guys.

Speaker 2 (33:54):
But he can't give away the secrets. He might have
been the Scout team. How about that?

Speaker 12 (33:59):
Ryan?

Speaker 3 (34:00):
Think about that under attack?

Speaker 2 (34:03):
At Isaac Lohenkron where you find him updates says as
well as tidbits from his game, some of the great
calls that he does on radio for Angel City FC.
He's Ryan Hollins at the Ryan Hollins Where you find
him find him at Ryan Hollinds on Instagram find me
at Swollen Dome at on X and Instagram. Of course,
as we continue here on Fox Sports Radio, I want

(34:25):
to circle back. We talked about a file that was
a good no call in your estimation, Ryan Hollins one that, well,
should we maybe look at the rule book in the
off season, and I'm looking squarely at Kyrie Irving and
a big decision that had to be made in the
final minute of Game two of the Western Conference Finals.

(34:45):
We'll do that next year on Fox.

Speaker 1 (34:50):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 2 (34:53):
Hey, welcome back in Fox Sports Radio. It's Fox Sports
Sunday by Carmen alongside Ryan Hollins. Thanks for hanging out
with us this holiday weekend. The crew we got Chris
and Ian and and our gout Isaac on the updates
much appreciated giving us a little bit of your time
on the highways and byways and the ins and outs
of your lives.

Speaker 3 (35:13):
It certainly is not unnoticed. However, you get us.

Speaker 2 (35:15):
Podcasts will go up when we're done. You can get
it wherever you download your podcast. Looks for Fox Sports
Weekends and then Fox Sports Sunday. Hollands and Harmon it'll
be there for you shortly after the show ends today.
And Ryan, we're talking a little bit earlier of you
know those bang bang plays and momentary reviews, the decision
making that the referees have to make, and there was

(35:39):
one in the Western Conference. I wanted to get your
opinion on as a man playing in the league, and
the you know, all those instances of did I get him,
did I not? And now we have our challenge system,
which again I still have a problem with the fact
that I can get to two challenges, right, showing that
you made two mistakes, but then I'm of challenges. If

(36:01):
I showed you that you got too wrong, I should
be able to show you got a third. Sorry, just
pointing out the obvious. I showed you your your fails,
and if I'm wrong, then take them away. I'm done.
But if i'm I should be able to press my luck,
as it were, continue to double down. But we did
have the postgame review on the play where McDaniels on

(36:22):
a review in the final forty seven second tryan ball
rule out of bounds. The call gets overturned and Dallas
gets the ball, but it's pretty clear that Kyrie Irving
never actually touches the ball to force anything but a
slap on McDaniel's arm. But because of the way the
NBA rules are, you cannot adjudicate a fall even as

(36:44):
you review that play. Is that correct? Should that be
the way this rule, this rule is interpreted, or should
we perhaps expand it to say, Hey, now we're looking
at the play. You opened up the can of worms.
Discovery is now in the opportunity here. Didn't settle.

Speaker 4 (37:02):
No, it's one hundred percent wrong, and it's something that
I've I've really challenged all year long, literally and because
you see the play, it'll go hold on. The reason
this happened is because he got fouled. This is the
reason this happened because he got pushed. Now, in my opinion,
the reason the NBA is the greatest league on earth

(37:24):
is why they make the common sense plays. They will
go in and review and assess and say, you know what,
let's fix this because we'd rather be We want to
get it right than be right. I don't know if
that makes sense. Everything get it right, then be right, And.

Speaker 2 (37:41):
That's the point. Right It is like if it's wrong,
it's wrong. It's a fast paced game and you're going
to make mistakes. The human element is great, but if
you're going to use technology and enter into that space,
then yeah, the whole goal should be all right, we
have in you know, conclusive evidence that we got it wrong,
so fix it.

Speaker 4 (38:01):
Yeah, and you know what, I strongly believe that the
league is going to do.

Speaker 5 (38:04):
So.

Speaker 4 (38:05):
I think that they're going to go in and they're
going to make the changes that allow you to be
able to, you know, for their officials at least to
come in and say we got it wrong or we
were looking at the wrong thing. Better yet, and you know,
we're going to fix it. So I think that's going
to happen. I think that's going to be a reality.

(38:27):
I truly do.

Speaker 2 (38:28):
How many league officers do you, or I should say
team offices do you think when they get the note
of apology that they keep it.

Speaker 11 (38:37):
Right?

Speaker 2 (38:37):
Becauzzar bay In is postgame presser and you know, to
the pool report, I was like, yeah, we got it wrong,
but based on the rules, we can't do anything about it.

Speaker 3 (38:45):
That's too bad.

Speaker 2 (38:47):
I'm sorry. I mean, how many of those that we
see over the course of the year, it's like, yeah,
two minute report.

Speaker 3 (38:51):
Yeah, sorry, guys.

Speaker 4 (38:53):
Well, the rules Committee comes together with the league, the
players and the coaches, and every year, you know, they
bring up the biggest concerns and I'm sure that this
is going to be one of those concerns and say, hey,
you know, we got to get this right, and you know,
you'd hate for it to come down. And unfortunately, this
is when it really changes, is a play like that

(39:15):
where Minnesota, if you're a Timberables fan, you're losing your
you're losing your marbles, you are absolutely losing it and
saying that wasn't fair. Uh, you know, we were cheated,
it wasn't right, whatever it is. We finally get here
and then this happens. You know, you're you're going wild.
So unfortunately for Minnesota fans, it does take an instance

(39:38):
like that for for change to it eventually happened.

Speaker 2 (39:42):
It's funny you go back to, you know, fan bases
and well even Rick Carlisle remember in the round against
the Knicks talking about small market teams not getting their
fair shake, et cetera. I saw some great video where
people would put in a violin quartet behind him, which
is really good. Well, little string quartet to play a
sad songs as he had those those moments. But right,

(40:05):
I mean, it usually takes something huge in on this
kind of stage to make change happen. Now, of course,
you can point to a number of other errors that
were made in those final minutes that would have changed
the outcome of the game. But you know what we
like to do. We like to magnify that one and
in this case, if it can make a rule change
that seems common sense happen, let's do it. He's Ryan,

(40:27):
I'm Mike coming up next, super Agent. Yeah, you know
who I'm talking about. He went Shakespearean. Is it much
ado about nothing?

Speaker 1 (40:36):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 2 (40:39):
Oh yeah, let's get it on hour two of the program,
broadcasting live from the tire rack dot Com studios tierrac
dot com. We'll help you get there an unmatched selection, fast,
free shipping, free road hazard protection, and over ten thousand
recommended installers tire rac dot com the way tire buying
should be. We'll go back to high school English in
a moment based on the words of an NBA super agent.

(41:04):
But first I got to bring him in. My guy
ten years in the NBA working for the Planet Houston,
the Houston Rockets, Superman two reference for those that haven't
seen it, Neil before Zod, anybody anybody looking at me?

Speaker 3 (41:16):
The blank stairs Here.

Speaker 2 (41:17):
It's my guy, Ryan Hollins at the Ryan Hollins where
you find him in the Twitter verse. Any big holiday
weekend plans here Ryan, other than hanging out and shooting
the breeze with me?

Speaker 4 (41:27):
No, nothing yet, man, This this is the life right here.
Come on, come on?

Speaker 2 (41:31):
Is the life bo bobo boy?

Speaker 4 (41:33):
Do we have like album or like podcast art or
does it? Did they just write like Harmon and Hollins.

Speaker 2 (41:39):
Well, I mean we could create some I mean, Ian
probably can start creating some crazy ass ai things for us.

Speaker 4 (41:47):
Is like the step Brothers? Is that like played out
like everybody does step Brothers. It's kind of like the
you know, the go to.

Speaker 3 (41:53):
What do you think Ian?

Speaker 2 (41:54):
I mean you want you want to come up with
some kind of crazy name for the show?

Speaker 4 (41:58):
Ryan?

Speaker 1 (41:58):
You mean you want to make a little great apic
of the two of you as like a step Brothers.

Speaker 2 (42:05):
Sweaters and we're staring blankly into the Yeah.

Speaker 4 (42:07):
Yeah, yeah, that's the step Brothers is the go to,
Like we gotta be we gotta be original.

Speaker 2 (42:14):
Let's do it. I'll make that happen.

Speaker 4 (42:16):
Let's do it, Let's go, let's cook.

Speaker 2 (42:18):
We could be the other guys, nice guys.

Speaker 5 (42:23):
Man.

Speaker 2 (42:23):
We could just start going down, you know full uh,
we can go up and smoke. I don't smoke, but
you know there's a whole other demographic we can reach
if we go that way.

Speaker 4 (42:33):
Oh God, what what what they just say that?

Speaker 2 (42:36):
I just went for button movies and Chi Chi Chunk
showed up on my timeline. God, we can do I
love you man, where you know you could be rud
or I could be Segel. If I'm run, I'm slapping
the base. I mean, you know, there's so much we
can do. Rush Hour, are you Jackie Channer? I likes
I like Rush Shower, Shanghai Non there Yeah, I mean

(42:58):
we we just keep going down. I mean we need
to bring in a third member of the six man
tag team, like where the von Eriks are freebirds, and
then we can do the hangover.

Speaker 3 (43:07):
I mean, look, we got everything. We can just keep
rolling it up. I mean there's tons sideways. We can
go to wine Country.

Speaker 2 (43:15):
I'm a slightly better looking Paul Giamadi better actor, though
kicks my ass. Anyway, Harold and Kumar go to White Castle.
I don't know me and Michelle's high school reunion. I mean,
we could just do buddy comedies till we're blue in
the face.

Speaker 4 (43:30):
Maybe the Twitter folks should choose. You know, if anybody go.

Speaker 2 (43:34):
At the Ryan Hollins at Swollen Dome, at Fox Sports
Radio of course, where you find us as well, carry
us with you the iHeartRadio app wherever you go, all
the podcasts Fox Sports Radio of course, you dial it
up there, but music podcast. It's your home for everything.
It's free. Father's Day is coming up. There's a free gift.

(43:55):
The only thing you have to do is spend a
couple of seconds either sending the text, the email or
maybe you actually cough up a buck and send a
card with the URL written out long form. Don't forget
the HTTPS, gotta leave you got to have that s
otherwise it's not safe.

Speaker 3 (44:14):
Ryan, remember that as you shop for your summer wares.
There we go. He's Ryan. Oh it's up, Bike, Carmen,
Welcome in.

Speaker 2 (44:21):
It is Fox Sports Sunday, Fox Sports Radio, a little
bit of left turn.

Speaker 3 (44:24):
We'll see what kind of craziness.

Speaker 4 (44:26):
Ian and the.

Speaker 2 (44:27):
Twitter listeners and Chris and and I Loo. I'm sure
he is working feverishly for the next twenty year in trouble. Man,
you're in trouble because it's gonna be something about your
food tastes or maybe you open the Pandora's box of
your musical taste at some point that he's just gonna
come back with the you know, the iron clawed.

Speaker 4 (44:49):
Yeah, he's I've never seen him. It's it's almost like
I think Isla might be a hater, you know, since
we've been doing the Sunday spot. He's just he just
turned on me and like he was never like this before.
Like I don't know, he's like to get off my
yard type of guy.

Speaker 3 (45:05):
I mean, looking for a little heat, right, it's a
heel turn.

Speaker 4 (45:09):
Yeah yeah, look.

Speaker 3 (45:11):
He's he's really got the furrow and brown. Now you're screwed.

Speaker 4 (45:14):
Yeah yeah, yeah, he's never been like this to me,
like ever, Like I was, I'm shocked. It's a new territory.

Speaker 2 (45:21):
Watch your back, man, Watch your back. Because as I
I logos here, as if I could speak as I logos,
you know, the world does.

Speaker 3 (45:29):
Because he'll get you. He'll get you. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (45:32):
Now he's just nodding along. See Ilo, I thought you
were working up the big next act. Now that we
came up with Buddy Movies to try to you know,
use as an emblem for the show.

Speaker 10 (45:41):
It's in development. It's in development.

Speaker 2 (45:43):
Let's like Holland, You're screwed, all right. So quote that
I saw last night Rich Paul, right, a man who
helps to orchestrate a lot of things in this league.
To deny his power, uh means you're just putting blinders
on uh and ignoring.

Speaker 3 (45:58):
The NBA world.

Speaker 2 (46:00):
We'll talk about all NBA contracts and all of that
fun stuff. The union negotiated things that sometimes don't make
sense to me, So you'll have to explain it to me,
like I'm a five year old, right. Not the money,
Not the dollars, i'd be grudge. No man is dollars.
It's the process as to how we determine these things
that leaves me wanting at times. But Rich Paul, you know,
doing some media rounds and he talked with Chris Haynes

(46:23):
and then he showed up, you know, as part of broadcast,
and he dropped this little nugget as they were talking
about the off season.

Speaker 5 (46:29):
To come, Brown's a free agent.

Speaker 2 (46:31):
You have to decide, and I got to focus.

Speaker 5 (46:34):
On his business, and who should be flagued about his business.

Speaker 2 (46:37):
And let the Lakers hire whoever they want to hire.
And he's always he's always showed up and played for
whatever coach is there.

Speaker 5 (46:44):
You know, But yeah, I.

Speaker 4 (46:46):
Hear you, Butmoni, and again I'm not you know, there's
no need to try to drive a specific larity or
try to dodge from Williams wild Is.

Speaker 11 (46:55):
I think he's earned the right to have and put
if you wanted that obviously bends.

Speaker 4 (47:00):
It's just not the cast spot.

Speaker 5 (47:01):
Hold Baba is gonna come hold on by hold hold
on real quick. You said something rich.

Speaker 13 (47:05):
You say Lebron's a free agent, So I take it
Lebron's wanted to climb that player option.

Speaker 4 (47:13):
So you know you love business over.

Speaker 2 (47:17):
I don't know what you're gonna do.

Speaker 5 (47:18):
We don't do what we do every year.

Speaker 2 (47:19):
We're gonna we're gonna evaluate the situation and we're gonna
make the best decision. That's a sound of a truck
backing up. But it is to me Shakespearean Ryan. And
what you do about nothing, Because yes, you're not picking
up the player option. You're negotiator opting out. You're negotiating
a longer term deal with some stipulations and whatever clout

(47:39):
you can exert on the squad. Now, that was part
of t n t's coverage, Vince Carter, Chris Haynes, Bamani Jones,
and Adam Lefko bringing you that, but you know, just
dropping it matter of factly. Hey, he's a free agent,
and they tried to walk it back. So you hear
you hear the truck like on your street way too
early when you're trying to sleep in a little bit.
Maybe it's the garbage truck. Maybe it's somebody moving and

(48:01):
they decided that they needed to get going at four am.
I don't know whatever the case may be. But but Ryan,
just the idea here. I always look one. I don't
believe the narrative that Lebron doesn't have his finger on
what's happening right the Adam Smith again, we're going all
sorts of high school learnings, the invisible hand of economics

(48:21):
in terms of the Lakers coach. I refuse to believe
for one minute that there's not a consult or. Let's
make sure we check with him that this is gonna
be cool and that he's ready to play for the guy. Yes,
he shows up and plays for the guy. We know
that right the legacy. It's history. It's not like he's
suddenly gonna go Derek Bell old school Pittsburgh Pirates reference

(48:43):
operations shut down at the end of a season or
at any point along the way. But when we look
at where we're at with what Rich Paul says here,
I mean, it's just good business sense. He also added
in that that the Lakers would be wise to spend
more of their attention focusing on what it takes for
the long term success and retention of Anthony Davis.

Speaker 4 (49:07):
Yeah, well they listen, Rich Paul Hall is sitting in
a very sweet spot. He's got Anthony Davis, He's got
Lebron James, and the challenge for the Lakers is saying
how much longer can he do this and at this
level and not just that. See, here's the thing. What
you got to understand about the business of basketball. All

(49:28):
the great players now, especially because Lebron, they understand their value.
So in understanding their value, they say, hey, I need
this coach, I need this situation. They have a lot
of input, They have a lot to say because they're
that important to the team in the organization. So in
terms you're not just getting Lebron the player who's going

(49:50):
to come to play. And Rich is absolutely spot on
with that. You take everything that it comes with. So
you don't just get Lebron, you get Rich, you get
mav you get the family, and now, right now, let's
be honest, you get Bronni too. Is that that bad
of a thing? No, the Lakers are still the talk
of the town. They make a lot of money, they're competitive.
The NBA's as competitive as ever. And the challenge is, hey,

(50:13):
get Lebron in ad set and then go out and
get the pieces that fit around them right now. Unfortunately,
and it's tough for Darvin Ham. Darvin Ham did a
heck of a job this season. We spoke about this.
The problem was the roster. The roster just didn't fit
and and it is hard. You gotta find guys that
fit around Lebron and not just Lebron and older Lebron.

Speaker 2 (50:34):
Well, and that's the curiosity for me, because I'll go
Devil's advocate and ah really, because I believe it is
it wise to build all your hopes and dreams around Lebron.
I know he brings in but puts butts in seats.
And it's la and all that. But from a straight
basketball sense, the wall gets hit eventually.

Speaker 5 (50:52):
Right here.

Speaker 3 (50:53):
He's hurt a number of years.

Speaker 4 (50:56):
Here's the answer. You'll like this the challenges can you
afford not to? In answer is no, So it's not
that is this the best decision? No, I don't think
other than Shay Gilgess, Alexander Luka, Doncic, you know, And
I mean, forgive me if I'm missing somebody else. There

(51:16):
are no guarantees. Kevin Durant don't have the same value
that he has. Steph Curry don't have the same value
that he has. These guys, these guys are not leading
you to championships anymore. So you can't sign that guy.
And they say, this guy means a championship, but you
can't afford to lose them. And that's the value. And
I love I love this about today's NBA. The guys
guess what They know their value. So because they know

(51:39):
their value, they take advantage of it as they should.

Speaker 2 (51:42):
Well, the guys always knew it. It was just a
question of whether the paradigm shift would happen. And certainly
hats off to Lebron for doing that. You know, I know, folks,
bemoan it all these twenty years now that we've been
watching this play out and team in players moving around.
You know, the old in my team stayed together. It's
like college basketball. It's like you know. One of the

(52:04):
things that I think is the to the detriment is
that you know, between transfers and one and Dun's, you
don't really have you love. You're rooting for laundry more
so than ever at the college level, because you don't
forge a three or four year relationship with your top
notch players because they're gone. Yeah, the bigger thing is
just on the lebron side, you know, where where is

(52:26):
the cliff versus you know, looking at where you're at
in the Western Conference and taking that true look at it, Ryan,
because you've got a couple of teams that are on
the come right, your Rockets playing better basketball and starting
to gel a bit. There still some moving parts, obviously,
but you look at Memphis that we're missing a number

(52:49):
of players, including John Morant who was off to a
fantastic start before he got hurt. So they come back,
they'll be more viable. We'll see what New Orleans does
with Brandon Ingram and the health of Zion Williamson is
always a question. But trying to get through the Western Conference,
I mean it's a gauntlet, right, We're watching it during
the playoffs for sure, series, the series, the how you know,

(53:13):
contentious every game is. Sure, there's some blowouts in the mix,
but that's that's to be expected at this point, right,
They live to see another day kind of mentality for
some of it. But it's just that curiosity in a
larger scope that isn't about short term dollars.

Speaker 4 (53:29):
No, you're right about it, but hey, you have to
go out and sign Lebron. You got to bring them back.
There's no questions there. You can't challenge it. And again
it's more so about what would you look like without them?
So you know Rich Paul and I love this about
Rich Paul. Rich Paul fights for the players. And sometimes
you have agents that they're worried about a team. They

(53:53):
don't want to ruin a relationship that they have with
the team, and they weren't always working the best interest
of a player. Whatever you want to say about Rich Paul,
he gets his guys paid. Those guys get paid. Now,
you may not like the way he does it. You
may not like what he says. You may say, hey, well,
he wouldn't be in the situation. I've spoken with Rich before.
He say he had he wouldn't be who he is

(54:14):
without Lebron. Rich would tell you he wouldn't be who
he is without Lebron. But Rich is also worth his
weight in gold because he's gone out and he and
he's he's made his he's made his own money, and
he's brought value to the situation. And you know, for
those who don't know NBA players, everybody has a guy
that's the that's his guy. Everybody has a guy that's

(54:35):
his guy, that's such such guy. Everybody has a guy, right, Well,
Lebron's guys make money for him. Well, but that's it.

Speaker 2 (54:42):
Right, Let's put a pin in this because this is
a bigger conversation because Rich Paul had something else to
say that I that I want to bring up because
it ties in to the other dangling story in the NBA,
because we can't get enough of trying to debate how
great Bronnie James will be at the next level, instead
of everybody just being honest and putting a giant question

(55:03):
markup like they're on a game show. It's not an eight,
it's not a nine, it's not a ten on a
scale of certainty. It's a giant question mark. We'll talk
about that in some of Rich Paul's other comments next.
As we continue here live from the tire rack dot
Com Studios, Fox Sports Sunday, He's Ryan Hollins, I'll Mike
Carmon stick with us. We're having a blast here on
a Sunday morning. Welcome back, and it's Fox Sports Sunday,

(55:25):
Fox Sports a Radio Mike Harmon alongside Ryan Hollins.

Speaker 4 (55:29):
Again.

Speaker 2 (55:29):
Remember, shortly after the show, the podcast goes up. You
missed Danny at today's show, three hours of glorious conversation.

Fox Sports Sunday, Hollins and Harmon. Right after we get

(55:52):
off the year and then you take that link and
you evangelize, and you tell four friends, and they tell
four friends, and suddenly we got a whole church com
congregation going into parking lot going, hey, we just had
some donuts and coffee with the pastor, and now we're
gonna go listen to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 3 (56:06):
Let's go.

Speaker 2 (56:09):
That's how we build community, That's how we build consensus
and take over the world.

Speaker 4 (56:14):
Ryan Hollins, you're doing this on a Sunday too. Oh gosh, you're.

Speaker 2 (56:19):
We're evangelt what. I have the same passion as a
man in the pulpit. I've been told oftentimes by my daughters,
I missed my calling.

Speaker 4 (56:31):
You are a great speaker.

Speaker 3 (56:32):
Well, I appreciate that.

Speaker 2 (56:33):
A couple of weeks ago, we actually had a pretty
fun one with their soccer squad and we're waiting on
the game and we I get there and someone asked
me a question and I turned and the way it's set,
it's like you had like four rows of all the parents,
grandparents and and you know, siblings and everything sitting there
and my back is to the field, and it looks

(56:55):
like I'm preaching to them, and I've got hand gestures right,
you know me. I mean, you know, the arms starts flying,
and my daughter, I guess at some point they all
stop playing, goes, what's.

Speaker 3 (57:08):
He talking about?

Speaker 5 (57:09):
Now?

Speaker 2 (57:10):
Like, because you were a total preacher, because at one
point we had gone to the local park, you know,
just you know, during the COVID stuff, right, everybody's doing
more outside, you know, services and whatever. And there were
all these chairs set up and eventually congregation shows and
we're you know, kicking the soccer ball, she's practicing traps whatever.
And you could hear the guy on his little little speaker,

(57:33):
you know, trying to shout above you know, some of
the singing and the you know, outpouring of emotion.

Speaker 3 (57:38):
She goes, you know, you could do that when you're
done with radio. I go, wow, It's like I appreciate that.

Speaker 2 (57:45):
It's like, now people listen to you, like, well that
I appreciate that, And I hope that's right. Thus far,
I'm a proof of concept. Here we are on a
Sunday morning on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 4 (57:54):
After this, like you have an expiration date when you're
done with radio.

Speaker 2 (57:58):
Well, I mean, look at how about this when radio's
done with me? How about that deed? But you know
what health is, okay? Ish We rally each morning and
each evening to try to entertain and inform and create
a little bit of chaos and get you away from
the trials and tribulations of everyday life, right, trying to

(58:19):
explain the job to some folks. Even yesterday, right, we're
down there for a tournament and one of the parents like,
so on a day to day you know, you know,
how do you decide what you're going to talk about
whatever else and kind of going through and then you
know the P word showed up. Politics. It's like oh yeah, no, no, no.
The whole idea is we're taking you away from all
of those you know, vexing thing. If it bleeds into sports, right,

(58:42):
and we've got bills you know, in front of congressmen
or whatever, when we talk about nil deals and going
up the courts in each state and everything that goes through,
then yeah, we bring it in there and try to
read the tea leaves, you know, legalized sports gambling whatever
that that's germane.

Speaker 3 (58:59):
To what we're talking about.

Speaker 2 (59:00):
But otherwise like no, no, no, no, we don't need
to bring the anger and divisiveness here.

Speaker 3 (59:05):
We're bringing you together. Now.

Speaker 2 (59:06):
You may hate us because you think I hate their
your favorite team or player, and you might be right,
I mean, you might absolutely be right. You may be
justified and everything that you say, but the goal is
if you're gonna be mad at someone, be mad at me.
Be good to your family, be good to your friends,
look after your coworkers, even if you don't particularly care

(59:27):
for them. You can get through the day because eventually
you're going home to the people you love or the
xbox or the TV, or your cat or dog or
whatever else.

Speaker 13 (59:36):
Like.

Speaker 2 (59:36):
That's the goal here, right, Laugh with us and then
shake your fist and anger at stuff we say, and
then go and try to live a happier, blissful life
somewhere else.

Speaker 3 (59:46):
That's the goal. As you stop by, how's that for
a thesis statement?

Speaker 4 (59:50):
That's solid?

Speaker 2 (59:51):
You think I could build a congregation off there? There
you go, I'm gonna need some land.

Speaker 4 (59:58):
We'll tough in California.

Speaker 2 (01:00:00):
Well, I mean, I'm willing to relocate eventually, so if
you can get me a plot of land near the
planet Houston there, and then you know, suddenly I start
showing up in the background on your broadcasts and there
he is, who's that guy? And we could build a
viral thing kind of like they've done with you know,
all of the characters coming back to the ww ILO
wants to tag in on this. What frightens the hell

(01:00:21):
out of me?

Speaker 9 (01:00:22):
I do have a suggestion. Do you remember the former
home of your Houston Rockets, the Summit that is actually
literally now a church. How about this throwing that out?

Speaker 3 (01:00:35):
That's a that's one of those mega churches right there.

Speaker 4 (01:00:39):
There you go.

Speaker 3 (01:00:41):
I like this.

Speaker 2 (01:00:42):
All right, I'm in, I'm in. Let's go, Rich Paul.
Let's get back to him for a minute. We talked
about with Lebron James, and I don't think it's any
surprise that Lebron would opt out, become a free agent
and at least, you know, make the Lakers sweat a
little bit because he's got some things he needs to accomplish.

Speaker 4 (01:01:00):
New TV deal, don't forget that also.

Speaker 2 (01:01:02):
Right, TV deal. We've certainly talked about that. In about
fifteen minutes, will do the inside the NBA requisite talk,
because I think I've come up with the best angle
to all of it that you haven't heard just yet.
And no, I'm not bowing to the altar of the
four guys at the DAIS. I can tell you that

(01:01:23):
even though I respect the hell out of it, don't
get me wrong, But for Rich Paul talking about Lebron
James and what he's done and what he's built, and
as we were talking about before of Ryan Rich Paul
Owes a lot to lebron James. But the thing is,
you get in the door and he likened Bronni James,
and all the speculation of where he's going to get drafted,

(01:01:44):
will he get overdrafted?

Speaker 5 (01:01:45):
Right?

Speaker 2 (01:01:45):
You got like thirty seven percent of the money being
bet for the number one overall pick. Now he's got
odds of two hundred to one and there's no legitimate
expectation that he's going to actually be the number one pick.
But throwing a fin on a two hundred to one
shot is pretty much the American dream. Now, you know,
you might as well just burn that five dollar bill
and see what kind of fibers survive on the initial flame.

(01:02:07):
I'm not telling you to burn money, Okay, I love mine.
Send the five dollars to me if you want to
do that instead of betting on Bronnie James. See what
I did there? Now, I truly am passing the collection
plate on a Sunday morning. But the idea that for
Bronnie James, yeah, he may get an extra look because
of his dad. He may get into the league because

(01:02:29):
of his dad. Right, Go Austin Rivers, Go whatever. Eventually,
you got to prove that you can play to stick
around the league.

Speaker 5 (01:02:36):
Right.

Speaker 2 (01:02:36):
The lebron hold only goes so far in terms of longevity. Right,
You're not going to be a legacy play that gets
to play fifteen years in the league. If you can't play,
if you can't fill some type of role, whether you
become a spot up shooter, a guy that you can
go and play defense, I don't know. Maybe he grows
another couple of inches. I know he's got the reach
and all. Ryan, we've discussed that before, but he went

(01:02:59):
down talking about Brownie James. But he brought in the
idea of James Dolan, like, well, you inherit a business
and then you try to build that business off of
the back of what your parents, grandparents, whoever else, and
extrapolate beyond that. And this goes to any business USA.
You know mom and pop shops that try to expand.
Chris and I were talking about a sandwich shop he'd

(01:03:22):
loved down in Savannah, Georgia that eventually, you know what, Hey,
we've got enough of a business, We've got enough of
a nest egg. Let's try to build a second spot
and maybe expands from there. Right, it all starts with
baby steps and eventually maybe one of the kids takes
over the business. Right, same kind of idea, all a
matter of scale and scope. But when we're looking at

(01:03:42):
you know, Rich Paul, Yeah he got into the door
because of Lebron James, but look what has to happen.
You've got to have proof of concept. You got to
be able to get to the table, stay at the table,
and not be the guy that there's like, all right,
I'm just not dealing with him because he gets his
guys paid, right, and the top players want to be
part of what he's built. It's the Scott Boris effect

(01:04:04):
in Major League Baseball. Everybody can bemoan his ways of
bringing in seven hundred pages of comparisons between the last
guy that got paid and his guy and how their
guy is better. And here's statistics and advanced analytics you
haven't even thought of. Right, He's like an outer space
where he's gone into the future and found the stuff

(01:04:25):
from ten years from now. And they may not want
to deal with him in this offseason. A lot of
his guys ended up having to sign short term deals.
So maybe the chickens have come home to roost for
a bit, but in the interim, guys were getting paid
hundreds of millions of dollars extra because his name was
attached to the negotiations, because he wasn't going to settle
with Rich Paul. It's become the same thing in the NBA.
And if you have the power and in whatever you do,

(01:04:49):
you know you do it. You know, kill him with
kindness was my old man's line for growing up right.
But at some point, if you have the leverage and
you have the need and the opportunity, you're taking full
advantage of it to make sure you're taking care of yours.
And that's what Rich Paul has done. So you don't
have to like him, but you have to respect the
hell of what he's built.

Speaker 4 (01:05:11):
No, You're you're absolutely right, And you know, look at
his body of work, look at the numbers, and you know, hey,
you know, if your one complaint maybe and this is
where Rich gets accused of, does Lebron want does? Does
is his main interest Lebron James? Of course, if it's
between you and Lebron James and Rich Paul is your agent,

(01:05:33):
who do you think is going to choose? And now
that is up for a matter of.

Speaker 2 (01:05:36):
Extra Commas and zero's associated with Lebron James.

Speaker 4 (01:05:40):
Yeah, or but you know, may he want to juice
Lebron's teams? Of course he is, but he's also gotten
those guys paid. That's j R. Smith, as Tristian Thompson,
Eric Bledsoe, Ben Simmons and none of.

Speaker 2 (01:05:51):
The things he got me and keep going on down
the line.

Speaker 4 (01:05:54):
Well a d was gonna inc max contracts regardless, that's
the easy one.

Speaker 2 (01:05:58):
Well, but that's but that's the one where you start
going to the devil in the details. Well for where
it might not be dollars and sent for.

Speaker 4 (01:06:04):
AD was getting to LA right, that was the challenge
for AD.

Speaker 2 (01:06:09):
Now, now that was unsavory how that all went down,
but it's the business.

Speaker 4 (01:06:13):
Yeah, but as former agency had relationships with Oklahoma City
and they didn't want to ruffle feathers where Rich Paul's like,
I don't care I'm ruffling feathers.

Speaker 2 (01:06:23):
It was more the operation shutdown kind of thing that
that kind of bugged me. It's like I'm saving myself
for good because.

Speaker 3 (01:06:29):
I'm going there.

Speaker 2 (01:06:30):
That's how you maybe a little bit injured, but that's
how you get.

Speaker 4 (01:06:34):
That's how you get traded. That's how you get paid. Unfortunately,
it's part of negotiation. You know, when you're getting ready
to do your your deal, all of a sudden you
get a little I'm sick. I don't know if I
could work. You know, you got to show your value man.
So it's uh, it's it's unfortunately, it's it's a part
of it.

Speaker 2 (01:06:53):
By the way, the Rich Paul monologue I did there,
would that have inspired you to maybe reach to the wallet?

Speaker 4 (01:06:59):
I thought about it. I was close. I mean that
was really good you like you do have.

Speaker 2 (01:07:03):
I mean, because that was extemporaneous speaking. I mean, Ian,
Chris and Ilo can can attest to you.

Speaker 3 (01:07:09):
I've got like one one you.

Speaker 2 (01:07:11):
I mean, you saw what I sent you to my
Chicken scratch with just some random headlines. And then I've
got the reads to make sure that I do proper
respect to the Tiraq dot com folks that have me in.

Speaker 3 (01:07:22):
This yere seat. Otherwise, pure Harmon.

Speaker 2 (01:07:28):
There we go, Fox Sports Sunday, Fox Sports Radio, Mike
Harmon alongside Ryan Hollands. Yeah, you don't have to like
the way that business has made and sometimes seeing how
the sausage is made, it can get distasteful. And I
think that's part of the part of the problem. It's
great for us, it's great for those of us that
love the business of sport, Ryan, but for those that

(01:07:48):
just want to watch basketball. And I'm not even going
into the you know, shut up and dribble and all
that stuff. That's that's not what we're going with any
of it. Well, because I'm gonna get someone that is
gonna bring that up. Right, It's like I'm just doing
the catchup. I'm going from the straight business of it
and being able to see how the sausage is made.
You may not like it, right, which is why I
brought up the ad. You know the way things ended

(01:08:10):
in New Orleans, right, Jason and I on air a
bunch talking about a top three player and here it
is a cornerstone. Is like, nah, he doesn't want to
be there anymore, all right, But if you have leverage
to leave and get paid and go work where you
want to work, right, all things being equal, I mean,
most people are walking across the street if the work
environment's going to be a little bit better, or there's

(01:08:30):
an extra dollar an hour attached to their paycheck.

Speaker 3 (01:08:33):
It's just reality. Yeah, there's some moving.

Speaker 2 (01:08:35):
Costs of switching costs some new personalities, to get to
know new cities, to navigate in LA recognizing you know
how much the taxes are going to take. I'll get
to Draymond Green here next hour, but you get all
the way through Ryan. I mean, there's you see it.
And for me, the transparency, at least as much as
we get it's still, you know, a bit opaque, but

(01:08:56):
it gives us a better understanding and reminder of the
humanity of it. All right, Because what's one of the
greatest laments limitations of players in every sport. We were
reduced to fantasy chips, betting chips, et cetera. Well, we
humanize it in terms of decision making processes for families

(01:09:17):
and upheaval whatever. Damian Lillard being very open about his
transition to Milwaukee and how difficult that was, right going
through a divorce and kids and all of that stuff. Like,
when we can humanize players and really put it back
in the context of our own lives and decisions we
have to make. I think it's for the better men

(01:09:38):
of the game. Even if some would say I just
want a guy playing basketball. I don't need to know
all that. Here's what to do you shut off social
media and you shut off all the damn yelling shows.
We're having nice conversations here. We're not giving you the
hyperbole that you might get elsewhere.

Speaker 13 (01:10:00):
There.

Speaker 4 (01:10:00):
You got Ryan, No, no, no, that's that's what we do.
You're you're getting the truth and that's you know, the reality,
the reality of sports. There are people, there's a business
behind it, and you know it's all about the value. Hey,
the reality is which Paul have value? Yeh? Does it
come because Lebron? Yes? Is the player more important than

(01:10:20):
the coach? Yes, because you can lose the player and
you don't get a championship. You lose the coach, you
you don't get a championship. But the player, wherever he goes,
can give you the championship. Ask Lebron, Ask Kawhi, Leonard As,
Steph Curry, ask those guys. So it's just the business
of the game and the and the truth behind the matter.

Speaker 2 (01:10:38):
If you can get Kawhi on the line, ask when
he's next going to play, I need it back on
the court.

Speaker 4 (01:10:45):
We we'd all love to see that.

Speaker 3 (01:10:47):
And we'll lead me back when the Intuit Dome opens.

Speaker 4 (01:10:51):
Yeah, I mean toilets, I'm sure but play again. But hey,
Kawhi doing everything he can to play. Trust me, nobody
wants to sit out. Leonard is working too hard. I've
seen guys shut it down. Kawhi ain't shut it down.
He's just he can only do what he can do physically.

Speaker 3 (01:11:06):
You just hit that point.

Speaker 2 (01:11:08):
As we roll forward, will my maybe somewhat controversial take
on inside the NBA. But first we got our guy,
Isaac Lowenkron with an update of what's going on in.

Speaker 3 (01:11:18):
Our sporting universe.

Speaker 2 (01:11:19):
He may have account of how many cars are out
of miss F one race for Monaco, and I have
no doubt that he's coming to attack Ryan Hollins.

Speaker 10 (01:11:28):
Why do you have to agitate like that? But yeah,
you're my job.

Speaker 12 (01:11:31):
You're right, not two, not three, not four, not five,
not fix pretty much.

Speaker 9 (01:11:44):
I was becoming a jingle of a certain legendary Burger place,
especially compared to another Burger place.

Speaker 10 (01:11:51):
All right, Enough of that.

Speaker 9 (01:11:52):
Game three of the NBA's Eastern Conference Finals on Saturday
nights on, the Boston Celtics rally from eighteen down with
five forty eight left of the third quarter to win
at Indiana one fourteen to one eleven for a three
games to lead drew Holiday to Go. I had three
point play with thirty eight seconds left in the fourth quarter.

Speaker 10 (01:12:09):
Then he had the.

Speaker 9 (01:12:09):
Clinching steel and three throws in the final seconds. Meanwhile,
in Game two of the NHL's Western Conference Final Saturday
night at the Dallas Stars defeated the Edmonton Oilers three
to one, tying the series. Had one baseball Saturday night,
the Yankees won at San Diego four to one. They're
on a four game winning streak. Aaron Judge has homered
in all four games. Yankees have also won eleven of thirteen,

(01:12:33):
and over those thirteen games, Judge is batting four to
fifty five with eight home runs. Speaking of eighth, the
Cleveland Guardians on an eight game winning streak. After a
four to three win over the Angels in Anaheim, Phillies
rallied for six of the top of the ninth to
win at Colorado eight to four. Diamondbacks over the Marlins
three to two. Arizona has won eleven of eighteen. Finally, indeed,

(01:12:53):
a big day in auto racing with the Indianapolis five
hundred as well as the Monaco grond and one of
the most entertaining elements of the Monaco Grand Prix. The
celebrity grid Walk interviews conducted by Sky Sports personality Martin Brundle.
Here was Brundle today interviewing Joe Jonas of the Jonas Brothers,

(01:13:19):
although Brundle did not quite know that listen.

Speaker 5 (01:13:23):
Hello, but one of the Jonas brothers said, I'm not
I'm gonna admit I don't.

Speaker 2 (01:13:27):
I could lie, I could make something up, but I
don't know which one. How are you? I'm not team
running for Sky?

Speaker 4 (01:13:31):
I think. Good to see you throwing the be here.

Speaker 9 (01:13:33):
Yeah, exciting day, a little toasty, but that's why we're
in shorts, you know.

Speaker 2 (01:13:37):
Yeah, Well that's why I'm good.

Speaker 3 (01:13:40):
Yeah, I got dressed in the dog obviously good.

Speaker 2 (01:13:42):
So have you been to one before? Yes?

Speaker 10 (01:13:44):
Miami, Austin, Montreal.

Speaker 4 (01:13:46):
I'm a fan.

Speaker 10 (01:13:47):
So good on Joe Jonas for being a good sport there.

Speaker 2 (01:13:50):
Back to you guys, I mean, would you be able
to pick out which one was which?

Speaker 6 (01:13:53):
Now?

Speaker 3 (01:13:54):
I wouldn't know.

Speaker 10 (01:13:54):
I wonder how often they get that.

Speaker 2 (01:13:56):
Frankly, you know what, as long as the cash keeps rolling, Ryan,
I mean, I just had a guy tell me how
much he liked my preaching.

Speaker 3 (01:14:03):
He said, keep going Mark.

Speaker 9 (01:14:06):
Oh God, Oh, can I tell a really quick story, Goad?

Speaker 4 (01:14:12):
Why So?

Speaker 10 (01:14:13):
I was at a high school dance and.

Speaker 9 (01:14:19):
A young lady at my high school dance asked me
to dance, which was very nice. She was a twin
so she had a twin sister. I went through the
whole dance. I did not know which twin sister it was.
It was so awkward. I felt so bad. Fortunately made
it through the whole dance back to you.

Speaker 2 (01:14:39):
Do you think they tagged out? Tried to ask her Tay,
I mean he both kind of liked you wearing matching dresses.
And then because I mean, we really could have taken
that story at a whole different turn. Ryan, Sunday Morning.
I thought Ilo was really he was working Blue.

Speaker 3 (01:14:53):
There for a second.

Speaker 2 (01:14:54):
It's actually ILO's wife and he still doesn't know which
woman is nice. Ian Rody here at Ian Roddy on
the Wow with the Hammer at Chris Perfat at Isaac Lohenkrown,
Find Ryan at the Ryan Hollins, find me over at Swollendum.
Coming up next, maybe controversial take on inside the NBA

(01:15:14):
and it's possible end. Yeah, you may hate me after
this again at Swollen Dome we'll talk about it next
on Fox Welcome back in Fox Sports Sunday, Fox Sports Radio,
My Carbon alongside Ryan Hollins. Coming up next, we got
a new report coming out of Philly about possible targets
in free agency. Ryan Hollins will put your GM hat on.
I don't think you can be arrested for tampering or

(01:15:36):
any of that stuff. At the Ryan Hollins where you
find them. Ten years in the league, working with the
Houston Rockets, the opinionated seven footers. You see him in
many media circles and obviously I'm blessed to be with
him here on Sunday Mornings. We have a blessed Now
it's fun, man, Come on, blessed that you get up
and you're willing.

Speaker 3 (01:15:54):
To work with me.

Speaker 4 (01:15:55):
Come on, man, of course.

Speaker 2 (01:15:57):
Well, you know, I'm sure there are people that have lists.
There's Steve Buscemi going back to Billy Madison.

Speaker 3 (01:16:04):
Right, I'm glad I called that guy. I might be
on those lists.

Speaker 2 (01:16:07):
I don't know, but all right, the inside the NBA
story right takes all its turns. Charles Barkley's showing up
and calling off Zasloff and all the bosses and everything else.
They have a right of refusal right in terms of
the contracts, all the other dollars and cents, and that's
part of it. It's negotiations on all sides, right, He's

(01:16:28):
him speaking out, Ernie's saying hell no, we won't go whatever.

Speaker 4 (01:16:32):
Else.

Speaker 2 (01:16:32):
Everybody's trying to make sure they get taken care of
and treated in their minds fairly to all of it
and the hand ringing that's gone on in our business. Ryan,
you know the I watch more of that than I
watch of games.

Speaker 3 (01:16:47):
Okay?

Speaker 2 (01:16:48):
Is it because you watch the clips that show up
in your timeline on Twitter or Instagram? Because that's all
I watch. I mean, it's not appointment viewing for me.
Am I entertained by what they say?

Speaker 5 (01:16:57):
Sure do.

Speaker 2 (01:16:58):
I love watching Charles and Shack get after each other,
no question about it, and Earnie trying to referee and
being as diplomatic as he could possibly be. I think
the real reason that there's so much consternation over this
is not because of the greatness of the show.

Speaker 3 (01:17:14):
And it's fantastic, there's no denying that, right, It's become
what everybody emulates. If you've got a panel of any
sort on TV, on radio, whatever. I think it's because
a number of people had stopped actually worrying about news
reports and they do more coverage of media and hyperbolic

(01:17:35):
statements rather than the idea of all right, here's a
news story, let's extrapolate from there. So it's gonna ruin
a lot of people's content, and they're planning for shows.
I think that's the real reason. It's not this undying
love and adoration of those four. It's because now they'll
have to actually come up with a B block on

(01:17:56):
a Monday morning.

Speaker 4 (01:18:00):
Yeah. Well, I think, well, here's the respect, and here's
from my view of what you see. You don't get
two Hall of famers that are willing to do the
work and then not just willing to do the work,
actually be good at it. And when you look at

(01:18:22):
the show, they're really really good at what they do.
And I think that's the oh wow, you know, this
is different. This is something that we want to watch,
and that's the excitement behind the show. And they're amazing people. Man.
I've been blessed to work over there at Turner and

(01:18:42):
you're walking around, Man, I remember, like I thought I
was in a dream, Like I wanted to pull my
phone out, Like I remember looking one side and you
get these fun times. Isaiah Thomas was there. Then I
looked to my right, Chris Weber was there. Then I
looked over, Shaq was there. Then Kenny was there, and
I'm like, what am I even too? We had ten
years in the league in this building. Yeah, but I'm

(01:19:03):
not one of those guys, but you're kind of you.
I was found myself just shaking my head saying, oh
my God, like I cannot believe that I'm here right now,
you know. And I say that to say that was
the cool thing about what Turner did. You found those
hardworking guys that were Hall of famers, that were willing
to do the work, and a lot of times, like
I said, those guys are not willing to do that.

Speaker 3 (01:19:25):
I would say this though, Ryan in in you know,
battle to that.

Speaker 2 (01:19:29):
How many times has the talking point been these guys
obviously don't know anything about these college players and teams
or even in the NBA. How many games have they
watched of that team? Like that becomes a lot of
content hubs, you know, as people defend their local squads
as well.

Speaker 4 (01:19:46):
Oh you're not going to stop watching you still in
the well no again.

Speaker 2 (01:19:48):
But it's becomes the the content hub that I speak of, Like,
look at how they don't know our team, these high
powered guys. So I think that's it. They're going to
miss those moments. I'm like, guess what something else will
rise up in their place, and if Charles is smart
about it, that production company gets at locked down really
fast and goes independent. Hey, coming up next, Sixers on

(01:20:11):
the hunt for a big free agent.

Speaker 3 (01:20:12):
When name entered the list, you're listening.

Speaker 1 (01:20:16):
To Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 2 (01:20:18):
Greetings, Welcome in our three of the program, live from
the tire rac dot com studios, tire rack dot com.

Speaker 3 (01:20:24):
We'll help you get there.

Speaker 2 (01:20:25):
I'm on match selection, fast free shipping, free road hazard protection,
over ten thousand recommended installers, tire rack dot com the
way tire buying should be. Can always find us in
the Twitter verse at the Ryan Hollins find me over
at Swollen Dome. First two hours hammered down very quickly here,
Ryan Hollins. So many storylines that are in and around

(01:20:46):
the game, and we didn't even try to predict what's
gonna happen a little bit later on. So we'll do
that in about fifteen minutes as well as Draymond Green
with some well let's get some fiddles out and maybe
some violins and a big string section talking about the
economics of the NBA.

Speaker 3 (01:21:00):
We got that sound.

Speaker 2 (01:21:01):
We'll do that in a little bit as well. And
then we've got Kevin Garnett had some thoughts on the
Defensive Player.

Speaker 3 (01:21:08):
Of the Year award. But how were we doing on a
Sunday morning.

Speaker 2 (01:21:11):
We've got a big brunch planned or you know, some
kind of big event that you that you're gonna go
and take over the world.

Speaker 4 (01:21:18):
Maybe just hangle with my buddy.

Speaker 3 (01:21:20):
Aw I'll assume that's me. Either that or you have
a dope right now.

Speaker 2 (01:21:26):
All right, Well, as we roll on, We've got Ian,
We've got Chris, and we've got Isaac. We're having a
blast this morning. Appreciate y'all giving us a little bit
of your holiday weekend. We've got a lot of live racing.
I got my head on a swivel, multiple monitors here
in the Fox Sports Radio studios, here the tire Rax studios, Ryan,
and we've had a bunch of accidents, a lot of

(01:21:50):
parts flying. I mean you probably will find some of
those on eBay, the ones they can't salvage try to
make some nice collectibles for people, or maybe they show
up in a Panini trading card to come as we flow,
but or maybe.

Speaker 3 (01:22:03):
That's Tops, Yeah, Tops has that f one.

Speaker 2 (01:22:04):
Anyway, the idea being that you have an opportunity to
have a part of the car that was wrecked by
your favorite driver is what we talked about. Keith POMPEII
Sixers beat Rider for the Philly Inquirer. This one just
popping down the line here, so let's jump on it.
At Pompey on Sixers is his Twitter handle talking about

(01:22:26):
the Sixers and their quest to now figure out the
next iteration of the squad. You got Maxie, you got
Joe lmbad and now it's all right, how do you
pair someone else up with them to make another run?

Speaker 3 (01:22:40):
Right?

Speaker 2 (01:22:40):
Injuries beset this squad and took them out of the
Eastern Conference contention. Hard fought battle against the Knicks. That
was one fun series to watch, all the angst of
those dormant to a degree, Sixers have had obviously far
more runs and six sas on a yearly basis in

(01:23:01):
recent history than the Knicks, but to get those fan
bases reactivated was great and now POMPEII rights.

Speaker 3 (01:23:08):
Well, Sixers do have their eyes.

Speaker 2 (01:23:10):
On other lucrative salary impact players just in case they
don't get Paul George. So they're also looking at potential
free agents. And we talked about rich Paul kat out
of the bag. He's going to opt out to go
find that multi year deal. But they're setting their sites
on potential free agents like the Los Angeles Lakers, Lebron
James and New York Knicks Ford Ogi Onnobi, his impact

(01:23:34):
on the Knicks cannot be denied for folks who want
to go back and watch some artistry at work, some
guts determination, a guy that really fit what Tom Thibodau
is building. That's a guy that if you can add
him to your front line and take him away from
the Sixers, talk about a coup. But if not in
free agency, Sixers believe they can use their draft assets
an available cap space to acquire a difference maker via

(01:23:56):
a trade. Lebron look in a six uniform.

Speaker 4 (01:24:01):
He looked pretty good. Well. The cat and mouse game
that the Lakers will play is that Lebron James, you
have kids in school and one in high school. You
don't want to do any moving around. That is the leverage.
Talked about it a couple of weeks ago Russell Westbrook
when he left the Lakers, he went straightware to the Clippers.

(01:24:25):
When you have kids and your kids are at high school,
your kids are older, you don't want to move. You
get you get to that point where it's it's not
about the money, it's about being happy about your family,
about your wife, about your you know, being home. So
for Lebron James, that's the leverage that that they know
you don't want to go to Philadelphia if you're the Lakers.

(01:24:46):
Come on, Lebron, stopped playing around? What are you waiting on?
And you know, I remember when my kids were young
and playing in the league, it was just more so
that hey they're young. After the season, we would just
pull them out of school, go back to California or
daycare or whatever, and there was no big deal. Now

(01:25:09):
when you're when when the season's over, guess what you're
hanging around? You want know why you're hanging around because
your kids are in school. So I bring that up
to say that as we talk about Philly, for Paul
George and even Lebron James, that leverage is still there
with the home team and they know it. So even
if you have the Clippers, you're saying, oh, well, Paul George,

(01:25:30):
we know you don't want to leave LA.

Speaker 3 (01:25:31):
You know you're an LA guy.

Speaker 4 (01:25:33):
You're an LA guy and all.

Speaker 2 (01:25:35):
Your creature comforts and friends and family and stuff are here.

Speaker 4 (01:25:39):
Hey, and as I'll throw it out. I don't even
know if it would work, but hey, if the Lakers
are smart, I'll be getting on the phone with Paul
George and say, hey, hey, Paul, you know if they
don't want to pay you, you know we will pay you, right.

Speaker 2 (01:25:53):
Let me ask you that. Then let's let's bridge off
to that. For Lebron James opting out and the reports
are whatever it was three for one fifty two or
one sixty two or whatever that number is. Remember what
happened when he went down to Miami and tried to
make the best run of it and they went to
four Eastern Conference finals, winning two NBA titles. So this

(01:26:15):
is a situation where he looks at the road, looks
at the west. Yeah, I want to stay in LA,
but let's work on the finances so we can add
more pieces. As opposed to Rob Polinka having to be
perfect in whatever mid cap exemptions or you know, all
of those different rules for bringing in veterans on these

(01:26:37):
these type of structures. Would it be whove him? Would
he consider that at this point in his career.

Speaker 4 (01:26:43):
If you're Lebron James, you want to win, and you're
absolutely right, you know, I will not be surprised if
he considered taking less two or trying to figure something
out wise to get a Paul George there or get
some there, you know, in a Lakers uniform. Because for

(01:27:03):
Lebron James, you know, they end up getting bounced out
the playoffs early, I mean playing and does it even
count it as well?

Speaker 3 (01:27:11):
But that's the thing, right, do you count it?

Speaker 2 (01:27:13):
I mean because folks were going semantics like, well, technically
they were the seventh or eighth seed, so they would
have made the playoffs, Like come on, let's he's not.

Speaker 1 (01:27:21):
That's just silly.

Speaker 4 (01:27:22):
The point is you on to waste that time, right,
And for Lebron James, I mean another ring, Oh my goodness,
that would do. They would do volumes and only just
for the sake of just chasing Jordan's you know, and
Lebron James is still playing for a reason, and I'm
telling you right now, it's definitely something that that he'd

(01:27:43):
have to consider. And if you're a team that wants
to get over the edge, Paul George is the top
my list. So I I honestly would be very surprised
if the Clippers let him go and they're okay with that.
But every other team, man is going to show his value.
In my agent, Todd Ramazar told me one thing, you know,

(01:28:04):
because I'm saying, you know, I forget where I was.
I'm like, man, I want to get out of here.
I don't want to play here, or you know, I
want to make some money whatever. You know, this grun
old player talk was going on in my in my
young head was Hey, Ry, if you don't have any value,
there's nothing to negotiate. You have to take this deal,
the deal that the team put on ahead of you.

(01:28:25):
Unless there's two or three deals, you have no negotiating value. Okay,
So for Paul George, he's got a lot of value.
Because every I mean mean, listen, you'd be crazy. Probably
every NBA team is considered. Okay, Well, we look like
we had Paul George to the mix. Well, we look
like we had him to the mix. He's a great
three and D guy. He's got size, he fits, he scored.

(01:28:46):
I thought he had an unbelievable year this season on
top of being healthy. So hey for for for PG
for the league, He's going to be highly sought after.
I'm gonna tell you that right now.

Speaker 2 (01:28:57):
But that's that's the fun part of this, this next
run in the season is you know, look, I'm all
for get every dollar you can and we'll talk all
NBA and the Draymond comments that he put out there
regarding wealth and NBA players, et cetera, which, if you
want to reach folks that have them on your side,
probably not the best comments to get to, but it's

(01:29:19):
the idea that you know, I don't begrudge a guy
trying to get every dime you can, right you only
have a short shelf life. Well for some of these
guys the much longer shelf life. So maybe the considerations
change for Lebron James. How much would one more title
mean versus adding another? You know, ten million dollars, say,

(01:29:39):
is the difference between what you take and what you
could have maxed out at at ten million dollars?

Speaker 5 (01:29:44):
Is?

Speaker 2 (01:29:45):
You know, obviously it's crazy money. Most of us are
never touching. But when you're talking about a guy that
we regularly associate with the B word in terms of
his overall value, I know what you were doing out there, America.
I wasn't go in there. How dare you? When we
talk about a billionaire, ten million dollars is a rounding air?

Speaker 3 (01:30:08):
You like that? That was good?

Speaker 4 (01:30:09):
Well, in the NBA world, it is also your value.
So once you take less, it's hard to get more.
So you know, it's funny you did bring up those
Miami days because you know what, those guys all took
a little less to find a way to make it work.

Speaker 2 (01:30:24):
Well, it got people mad, right, I mean, the union's
obviously going to be mad if you do that. Right,
Remember people used to complain about Tom Brady and I
would laugh. I go, he's one guy. He's the outlier.
It's not like you're gonna have fifteen of these highly
sought after free agent guys that are suddenly all going
to go you know what the good strategy is to
go less? No, I mean they've all followed lead to

(01:30:45):
sign shorter deals because they can opt out as the
TV revenue and all of that kept it increasing, and
obviously with the new packages coming in Ryan, it's it's
gonna be even crazier. But when we talk about you know,
Lebron would just be an outlier. So for the Union
as a whole, they may grumble a bit and maybe
Rich Paul would be mad because that's another house he
can't buy or something. But it's just the idea that

(01:31:08):
I mean, you're not gonna have a bunch of guys
following suit.

Speaker 4 (01:31:11):
Yeah, I listen, there's always gonna be somebody complaining that.
That is just the name of the game. At the
end of the day, it's an arms race. And you know,
it's a different NBA, man. So if somehow Lebron won
a championship amongst the most competitive NBA that we have
ever seen, and when I say the most competitive NBA
that we have ever seen, man, everybody is good. If

(01:31:34):
he finds a way to do that. You talk about
this goat conversation that might be signed still delivered in
a lot of people's minds. But for him, he'd have
to have the right team placed around him. A lot
a lot of things would have to go right. And
you know, I don't think Lebron James and is in
a position where he just saying, well, I'm good, I
don't want to do it anymore. You know, you guys

(01:31:56):
got me. I quit. I'm hanging it up. You know
I've done. I've done. Obviously, the focus is, hey, he
wants to play with his son. We all know that,
and we could see that. In my mind, that is
it's a little notch on the goat belt. You know,
you're so good that you're spitting out NBA players. But
at the end of the day, yes, he wants to

(01:32:16):
another championship. Is not something that Lebron James has just
forgotten or just left on the table.

Speaker 2 (01:32:23):
Ryan, we'll put a pin in this conversation. We'll get
back to the business of the NBA and in a moment,
but we've got some breaking news coming from our guy,
Isaac Lohan.

Speaker 1 (01:32:34):
Breaking news from Fox Sports.

Speaker 9 (01:32:36):
The parents of two times PGA Tour winning golfer Grayson Murray,
who died yesterday morning at the age of thirty, have
just issued a statement through the PGA Tour announcing that
the cause of his death was by suicide. The statement reads,
in part quote, we have spent the last twenty four
hours trying to come to terms with the fact that

(01:32:58):
our son is gone. It's surreal. We not only have
to admit it to ourselves, but we also have to
acknowledge it to the world. It's a nightmare. We have
so many questions that have no answers, but one was
Grayson loved? The answer is yes, by us, his family,
by his friends, by his fellow players, and it seems
by many of you who are reading this he was

(01:33:19):
loved and he will be missed. We would like to
thank the PGA Tour in the entire world of golf
for the outpouring of support. Life wasn't always easy for Grayson,
and although he took his own life, we know he
rests peacefully now unquote again that statement released by Eric
and Terry Murray, the parents of PGA Tour winning golfer

(01:33:41):
Grayson Murray, who died yesterday morning at the age of thirty.

Speaker 3 (01:33:45):
Thank you, Iilo.

Speaker 2 (01:33:46):
This comes on the heel stan Van Gundy opening up
this week about his wife as well. One of those
that hits I don't know the man, but the idea
check out your people. It's National Mental Health Aware this month.

(01:34:08):
Yesterday I had this hamburglar shirt hunt with it went
towards a collective where a bunch of the money goes
towards researching and helping people.

Speaker 3 (01:34:20):
So reach out.

Speaker 2 (01:34:21):
Sorry for the break, just one of those things that
hits a bit a little bit differently.

Speaker 3 (01:34:26):
Fox Sports Sunday. He's Ryan Hollins. I'm Mike Carmen.

Speaker 2 (01:34:29):
We'll continue, We'll get back into the business of the NBA,
the All NBA Teams, Defensive Player of the Year, all
of that.

Speaker 3 (01:34:36):
We all have our breaking moments, So again, reach out
to your people. Make sure they're good.

Speaker 2 (01:34:41):
If nothing else, get them to fight about the Tea
Wolves and the Mavericks a little later on today, which
we will do before we finish. Good thoughts to the family, friends, fans,
and everybody on the PGA tour. I'm Mike Carmen. He's
Ryan Hollins. This is Fox Sports Sunday at Fox Sports Radio. Hey,
welcome back in Fox Sports a Radio. It's Fox Sports Sunday.

(01:35:04):
Mike Carmen alongside Ryan Hollins. Thanks for being with us,
giving us a little bit of your day. Memorial Day weekend.
We've got some PGA going, the Charles Schwab Challenge. We've
got F one racing in Monaco. Later on, NASCAR Circuit
All Stars and all that fun stuff. As we get
going on another big holiday weekend. Wherever you're going, however

(01:35:26):
you're spending it, good thoughts to you all as well.
Sorry the All Star Race was last week. It's the
Coca Cola six hundred, as I make the correction in
real time later on today though, as we go Ryan
Hollins trying to find their way back and scratch and
claw their way back into the series, and I had
to use it because it's the Timberwolves down two to

(01:35:49):
h as they go to Dallas. We had to talk
about the Kyrie Irving foul that wasn't well couldn't be overturned,
and Luka Danchez obviously had a lot of choice words
for Rudy go bear. We're not gonna play it here
because I mean, look man, it's Sunday morning. We'll keep
it clean. But the Mavericks up two to oh t Wolves,
and really this story of a lot of it is

(01:36:11):
Anthony Edwards. Is he hitting a wall? I know that's
an you know, a really big blanket question. But because
you're the man with the answers of ten years in
the league, watching young guys and being a young guy
in the League yourself. Is it possible that we just
hit that space.

Speaker 4 (01:36:26):
Yeah, this is where we talk about, you know, taking
a lot out of you and for them to kit
past Denver. You know, it's a battle, nutrition, man. They
had to put everything they had into that game. And
you're right, at a certain point, Anthony Edwards and those

(01:36:47):
guys just just ran out of gas, and you know,
it is tough. And you know, Mike, I do want
to say something. I didn't get a chance to address it.
You know, man, You're brave reason I didn't say anything.
I'm over here choked up. Also from the last segment
for condolences to the family of the golfer. But over
here in Houston, in my neighborhood, we got pink ribbons

(01:37:07):
around the neighborhood. And the reason we have those pink
ribbons around the neighborhood is because there is it. I
don't want to be more of it, but this is
a reality for those who are listening. A little girl
committed suicide. Condolence to her and her family. But man, again,
I just I want to double down on what you
said earlier and beautifully said, Mike, Hug your loved ones,
Hug your family, Hug your kids. Man. These these kids

(01:37:29):
go through things that we didn't have to go through
when we were younger. And the uh, the amount of
social media and scrutiny and you know, trying to fit in.
It's it's different, man. We didn't deal with that.

Speaker 3 (01:37:47):
So again it's animal.

Speaker 4 (01:37:48):
Yeah yeah, huh.

Speaker 2 (01:37:49):
Back to day, it was go punch, punch the guy
on the school yard. Yes, and you got it done.
Versus Hey, I'm going to be bombarded on social media.
I'm going to be a pariah all of those kinds
of things. It's a much different course that are navigating.

Speaker 4 (01:38:03):
Yep, you punch somebody or you get punched, it goes
on the internet now and then people are talking about
you and it ain't just switching schools. It's a big thing.
So nonetheless, hug your loved ones and I think even
more focus, man, focus on the people that you have
in front of you. But back to sports and you know, Mike,
very brave, brave you for what you said, man, But

(01:38:23):
back to sportsman. Yeah, he's gas man. The kid's never
been here before. Everything is new, so you're we're all
pulling for Anthony Edwards. Were excited for what we're seeing
and then at this point in the playoffs, man, you know, Mike,
I want to know what you think about this. We've
seen several times we're like Anthony Edwards hit the ground
in that Nugget series and he just kind of got

(01:38:46):
up gingerly and kept playing.

Speaker 5 (01:38:47):
Hit this.

Speaker 3 (01:38:50):
Yeah, very physical series.

Speaker 2 (01:38:51):
I mean he delivered a number of blows, right, I
mean that was one of the keys to defending Jamal
Murray and why he had You know, he's had so
many issues through these series and fighting the officials is
you know, they were bumping, they were getting after it
at each round. As we know with playoff basketball, they're
gonna let that much more go. And so he's taken

(01:39:12):
a beating on both ends of the court that maybe
in the regular season he didn't because you notice, certainly
in Game one it was more prevalent. Most of his
shot attempts were nowhere near the rim. Now, you didn't
shoot particularly effective near the rim in Game two, again
a lot of physicality got to the line a few
times late. But the body blows just they add up.

(01:39:34):
Even if you're at only twenty.

Speaker 4 (01:39:35):
Two, you ready for an unpopular opinion. Hit me Potentially
the reason why Anthony Edwards should not play defense the
way he does. And the reason I say that is
because when you defend and you're chasing guys around the
perimeter and you're doing all that stuff, it beats your

(01:39:59):
body up.

Speaker 2 (01:40:02):
Mike Trout argument Major League Baseball, Right, how many times
did he crash into walls, died for balls, et cetera.

Speaker 3 (01:40:09):
That over time? Now, I mean, look at him. He
can't stay healthy.

Speaker 4 (01:40:13):
And you know, I know everybody goes Michael Jordan defended.
He was an NBA defender. He was this the score
was in the eighties, they scored in the nineties. Anthony
Edwards is trying to play defense for one hundred and
twenty points a gay. Look at the New York next
They defended like crazy at one hundred and ten point pace.

(01:40:37):
That is nearly impossible to do. So, yes, you're seeing
the young boy. The bodies start to break down, and
absolutely that is a huge, huge part of it. And
so now, if you're an organization and the two teams
I want to call out are the ones in the

(01:40:58):
Eastern Conference final, All right, might and come with me.
He's I don't know if you agree, take me with you.
Look at Indiana and look at the Celtics. They play
ten or twelve deep every single night.

Speaker 2 (01:41:09):
Yeah, right right before you got four minutes in crunch
time from Doug mcbuckets come.

Speaker 4 (01:41:17):
On now, minutes big minutes right, four.

Speaker 2 (01:41:20):
Minutes from doing McDermott.

Speaker 4 (01:41:22):
Every night, dude, they're doing that every night. It is,
so you know, we get it, and that's probably not
probably that's why they're there. And then what we say
about the Knicks, how they just warm down.

Speaker 2 (01:41:40):
Wait, who's who's getting off the bench right half you
half expected someone to flip a jersey at starks at
some point.

Speaker 4 (01:41:47):
Yeah, And and and that that's a huge part of it,
and not just the huge it. Maybe it may be
it may be just about all of it, man, but
those guys being healthy is a huge, huge, huge part.
You know. The greatest ability is what you say it
all the time.

Speaker 3 (01:42:03):
Availabil ability.

Speaker 2 (01:42:04):
You gotta be there, I mean looking guys play injured,
all right, Guys play hurt all the time. We know that,
we stipulate to that a lot of guys don't come
into the season healthy, still recovering from an off season
surgery and working their way back or whatever the case
may be. So we recognize them. But once you're within
the white lines, guess what you're evaluated by what you're
putting on tape inside the white lines. And yes, you

(01:42:26):
may get a little bit of love from the local media,
maybe the fans caveat and out a little bit, and
maybe we'll get into some of those nuanced discussions, but
let's face it, most of it's reduced to ten second
sound bursts about how poorly you played here or there,
and there's no caveats for you know, you had an
injury that kept you out ten games here or eight games,
and you battled back, right. It's the Halliburton thing. He

(01:42:48):
was injured before, came back, got reinjured, and here we
are as that series goes on but down to nothing
and the series moving to Dallas, Lively has been fans fantastic.
I mean, surname just says it all nine and eleven.
He was plus nineteen in the one eight, one five victory.

(01:43:09):
Can Luca have some more horcks and more Slovenian talk
for Rudy Gobert?

Speaker 4 (01:43:16):
Oh, listen, man, this I think Rudy.

Speaker 3 (01:43:21):
Rudy's wearing it right now.

Speaker 4 (01:43:22):
Man.

Speaker 2 (01:43:23):
You got guys killing him all across the league.

Speaker 4 (01:43:25):
Well, poor Rudy man, I feel like he's one of
the most Like he's one of those guys that's just
he's a target, man. They target Rudy like no other.
And you got Draymond on the broadcast just just smashing them.
It's just over and over again. But Rudy is a target.
And there's even there's a clip going around where you know,

(01:43:48):
Luca ISO's Rudy for game, you know, or a big
go ahead kind of bucket in the world games, and
it's it's a tough go around right now for Rudy Gobert.
But he's one of those guys. Man. You like the
trash talking, you know what, it's a it's a part
of the defensive Player of the Year. It is what
it is. And you know Rudy, Hey, Rudy's brought a
lot of it on himself. Many Rudy don't back down.

Speaker 2 (01:44:09):
Well, he doesn't back down. He owned up to not
being able to make the play. Luca's comment was funny.
I don't I'm not fast, but I'm a little faster
than him, So that was good. And obviously insert all
your favorite cartoon sounds from the sixties and seventies in
terms of what Rudy's feet were doing. You ever remember
being put on skates like that?

Speaker 4 (01:44:31):
He was rare. See. See what I did is I
could guard the perimeter. I could guard. If I couldn't
do anything, I could guard the perimeter. So that was
something that you know, I never had a problem with.

Speaker 2 (01:44:45):
Well, there you go, ask do you know why he's
got ten years in the league and he's he's go
back to uncut gems. He's in there there, I'm your
agent now than I got it.

Speaker 4 (01:44:57):
No, I kid you not. In some respects, I would
I have rather guarded the perimeter than guarded somebody inside.
Oh yeah, it was just more natural for me.

Speaker 2 (01:45:08):
I could move my feet, move the feet and not
have to put on the extra fifty pounds to battle
down low with the same level pretty much.

Speaker 4 (01:45:16):
Yeah, dude, I never had the pounds, you know, That's.

Speaker 3 (01:45:19):
What I mean.

Speaker 2 (01:45:19):
Like, I would have loved to see the eating regimen
you would have had to be on to try to
get there.

Speaker 4 (01:45:24):
Look, I'm about I'm I'm about two seventy right now
and I've played at two forty. So yeah, I never
had the pounds, and I played in the NBA where
I had to Guard, Shack, Right, Duncan and all those yeahs.

Speaker 2 (01:45:37):
Different world and look and you and I talked about
this a couple of weeks ago. People can go back
and find the podcast Hollins and Harriman, Fox Sports Weekends,
Fox Sports Sunday talking about the Big Man, that it's
not dead, it's just evolved to a different state.

Speaker 3 (01:45:50):
Right now.

Speaker 2 (01:45:51):
We just have more guys that can hang around the perimeter,
stretch you out, et cetera. Which is why we'll get
to the Wemby conversation here coming up in about ten
minutes now. But I wanted to play this from Draymond
Green right because we had the announcement of the All
NBA teams. Ryan, And whenever you make the All NBA team,
what happens We start talking about funny money and future

(01:46:11):
contracts and whatever else. Right, this guy's eligible for three
ninety six, this guy can get two sixty, whatever the
case is. And if you get left off now it
becomes the grumbling of right, who has a grudge against me.
So that's part of my problem with how we decide
those I don't begrudge anybody the money. Get what's available
to you. But Draymond Green in the wake of that,

(01:46:32):
had some thoughts on the economics of the game and
preparing for the post NBA world.

Speaker 5 (01:46:37):
The fines to me, don't make sense.

Speaker 13 (01:46:39):
You know when you talk about as hard as we
work to accumulate wealth, coming from situations that most people
never make it out, and then you get fined the
way we get fined. It's actually not set up for
us to be wealthy after we're done playing.

Speaker 5 (01:46:52):
This job is not set up the way.

Speaker 13 (01:46:53):
We're taxed, oh, California, like the way we're taxed, the
way we're fine. Hey, you know you hear about all
all these programs, like this program, this, this program that
is to cover everybody, this program is to teach this
guy this. But if I do something wrong, I lose
one hundred thousand dollars. Man, it took my mom four
years when I was growing up to make one hundred
thousand dollars and I lose that in the night because

(01:47:14):
what the brufferee got mad at me and he didn't
like what I said to him.

Speaker 5 (01:47:18):
So I lose five thousand dollars like that, like on
a tech.

Speaker 2 (01:47:22):
Well, then again, it goes back to what's collectively bargained
and fine structures and I don't know how many times
has Draymond been called to the principal's office there, Ryan,
all right.

Speaker 4 (01:47:33):
I'm gonna play some devil's advocate here. You ready for it?
Hit me? Okay?

Speaker 2 (01:47:37):
So so now I knew that you would.

Speaker 4 (01:47:39):
Yeah. Yeah, well here, here's on one side. Here's on
one side. Why are the fines so high? That's that's
a lot of money that gets lost. There's nothing at
Draymond is saying wrong, right, No.

Speaker 2 (01:47:53):
I mean, look, remember we had a couple of fines
on running backs for blocks last year that pretty much
cost them their game check in the NFL.

Speaker 4 (01:48:00):
Yeah, that's a problem with that, and that's a lot
And the one thing.

Speaker 2 (01:48:04):
About talking about shorter shorter lifespans do yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:48:08):
The one thing about NBA players that we never do.
Don't count another guy's money. Sure, do not count these guys' money.
Because this money, let's say, let's just argue, you live
till eighty years old. So whatever he's making, he's got
to live until he's eighty years old, and then he's
got to try to find a way to care recreate
the money, which is Dartner impossible. The reason is Darkner impossible,

(01:48:29):
very tough is because you are giving one hundred percent
of your focus to the NBA and once that hundred
percent of your focus to the NBA waivers guess what,
you know, what happens, You lose it and you're out
the league. You lose focus, you're out the league. You
are not the same player. So, hey, we're not going
to question the money. Now. The other side, the devil's
the advocate side of it is when the league, well,

(01:48:54):
those techs were what one thousand dollars five hundred dollars
a pop sheet Wallace's to Rodman's. Those guys didn't care
about text. It was bad for the game because players
abused it so much. It was just every call was argued,
guys were getting through. It was just like whatever, just

(01:49:16):
a dead at the office, right, And for the player's sake, Hey,
I played, don't get a tech, don't push it, just
just play the game. Okay, So what side are you on?
I can see both sides because it's part of what
makes Draymond Draymond. But if you're complain about the money,
don't do it. But is it fair enough for the

(01:49:38):
league to take that much money away from guys? And
Draymond's clearly speaking from his perspective.

Speaker 2 (01:49:43):
Yeah, I think while he's also lost a lot of
money and he's a guy that what's his career earnings?
Like two hundred million of folks want to go down
that road, have at it. I just look at it
from the you know, these are all negotiated structures, right,
like the way the all NBA works, like the sixty
five game threshold to be available, you know, for awards,

(01:50:03):
all those things. Your union voted for it. So you
want to go and fight. Look, Adam Silver generally will
rollover if your pet his stomach, if you're a top
notch NBA player, So why doesn't Lebron go and do that?
Just say, hey, you know what, we need to look
out for our guys.

Speaker 4 (01:50:19):
I don't think are we wrong here? Trademon's not the
guy to be saying no.

Speaker 2 (01:50:24):
But that's the thing. You're you're the wrong guy. Not
only have you had great success, but that's the the
other problem with it, though, Ryan, is he has to.

Speaker 3 (01:50:32):
Be the guy to say it. It's that weird.

Speaker 4 (01:50:35):
You know, well, this is the same weird right that
Trademond got sent away for the slapping it in people, right,
you know, you got it you got it.

Speaker 2 (01:50:44):
So this is not a but that's not the time.
But I don't know that there's anybody else active that
can really speak to it that's been affected the same way.

Speaker 3 (01:50:52):
When we get to the jock tax or whatever.

Speaker 2 (01:50:54):
All I can say is go sell something on eBay
in another state and then we'll start talking about the
jock tacks because it applicable, applicable to whomever is selling
state to state. Right the sales tax, they're coming for
you here, you pay the income tax. And luckily for
some guys that's not a consideration at least for half
their season because they play in some of the states

(01:51:14):
where there's no income tax.

Speaker 3 (01:51:16):
There you go.

Speaker 2 (01:51:17):
But it's a great conversation, Like I love it, and
I'm sure that'll be a leading point. And what makes
Draymond Draymond in so many ways, He's Ryan Hollins at
the Ryan Hollins find me over at Swollendome. Coming out next,
we'll have another x NBA legend who's got some thoughts
on how voting went in another award. But first it's
our guy, Isaac Lowan Crown. He's got what's trending.

Speaker 10 (01:51:38):
Thank you, Mike.

Speaker 9 (01:51:39):
A short time ago, The parents of two time PGA
Tour winning golfer Grayson Murray, who died yesterday morning at
the age of thirty, issued a statement through the PGA
Tour announcing that his cause of death was by suicide.
Eric and Terry Murray said on the statement, quote, although
he took his own life, we know he rests peacefully.

Speaker 10 (01:52:00):
Now.

Speaker 9 (01:52:00):
Please honor Grayson by being kind to one another. If
that becomes his legacy, we could ask for nothing else unquote.
On Saturday night, in Game three of the NBA's Eastern
Conference Finals, the Boston Celtics won in Indiana one fourteen
to one eleven to take a three games to none lead.
In Game two of the NHL's Western Conference Final on

(01:52:24):
Saturday night, the Dallas Stars defeated the Edmonton Oilers three
to one, tying that series at one win a piece.
We've got one Major League Baseball game underway. The Tigers,
hosting the Toronto Blue Jays. Toronto failed to score on
the top of the first inning, Detroit coming up now
in the bottom of the first and coming up at
twelve forty five Eastern. The greatest spectacle in racing, the

(01:52:46):
one hundred and eighth running of the Indianapolis five hundred.
Scott McLoughlin has the poll. Mike and Ryan back to you.
Appreciate you.

Speaker 2 (01:52:53):
Iilo at Isaac Low and Cron where you find him
at Ian Roddy for our executive producer, and of course
at Chris Purfet for all the lay that he's got
rolling on in the sporting universe as well. Ryan is
at the Ryan Hollins find me over at Swollen Dome. Positivity, negativity,
whatever you need to spew. I'm here for you. I
got youa Let's get through a Sunday together and enjoy

(01:53:15):
time with our family and friends and all the sporting
action that is lining up for us today. There's so much,
as Isaac laid out as you go through. But coming
up next, we've got it. Was Awards week and one
NBA legend who's tied to a team currently playing had
some big thoughts as to the voting process and where

(01:53:36):
we need to improve. Talking to you voters next on
Fox taking me away back to win. My sports teams
were good and mattered and now I want to go
charge through a wall. Let's go why Carmen, Ryan Hollins
with you here, Fox Sports Radio, Fox Sports Sunday. We
appreciate you hanging out with us this morning. Remember that

(01:53:59):
the podcast we'll go up on all platforms when we're
finished here today. If you missed any of the show,
check it out search Fox Sports Radio wherever you get
your podcast. Be sure to follow rate review the podcast again.
Search Fox Sports Radio wherever you get your podcast. You'll
see this show Fox Sports Sunday, Hollins and Harmon as
soon as Ian can get it up with his mits

(01:54:22):
on the service here. It'll be posted right after we
get off the air. All right, So we've got a
final out of Monaco. There, Ryan Hollins, we already have
a race finished, and now they're spraying champagne at each other.
So much wasted good champagne. Mimosa's for everyone. Charles Leclerc
with the Wyn Pastree second signs third, Lando Norris, who's

(01:54:46):
become my daughter's favorite after watching that F one docu series.
She'll be excited to know that Lando finished fourth. And
there we have it fifth. For those that you might
have had some kind of exotic bet, George Russell finishes
thirty me Mercedes in the fifth spot. See we got
live sporting action to start a Sunday, Ryan Hollins, if
you want to talk about propelling yourself towards a great day,

(01:55:09):
I mean, that's as good as it gets. We get
a game three later on, Minnesota, go steal one in Dallas?
Or is it the march for Luca and company?

Speaker 4 (01:55:18):
Nia. I think they get one. I don't think they're
just gonna go and get swept, but man, they are fatigued.

Speaker 3 (01:55:26):
Ya, You're gonna get himself benched again.

Speaker 4 (01:55:30):
We talked about this with Minnesota before, and they're in
that tough space where you can't have both those guys
on the floor. And what happened was when you have
Cat in, what happens is the weak side gets horrible.

(01:55:50):
And what's tough for Cat is to take away the
layup and take away the three. And Luca is such
a great passer. While he's running the pick and roll,
he's just watching Cat's eyes and as soon as Cat hesitates,
he's throwing a ball in there for layups or he's
whipping it over over for an open three. Derek Jones Jr.
Can beat you? Uh, those guys are PJ. Washington can

(01:56:12):
beat you, and they proved it. Just asked Oklahoma City,
so The answer is you gotta put Cat at the
five and now Kats in pick and roll. So you
know there is a system that is being built over there,
that's built that is really tough to play against, and
it it has those guys absolutely struggling right now.

Speaker 3 (01:56:36):
He's Ryan Hollins on Mike Carmon.

Speaker 2 (01:56:37):
Now, let's get to a guy who's had some success
last tide right back of the celtics last title run up,
the great Kevin Garnett. He had some thoughts on the
award season and particularly Defensive Player of the Year.

Speaker 5 (01:56:54):
A defensive play.

Speaker 4 (01:56:55):
I'm just saying, listen, he said that much.

Speaker 13 (01:57:00):
Oh he was a roogman if you prove job, did
you get the job right?

Speaker 5 (01:57:07):
That he should have did the end?

Speaker 13 (01:57:08):
We ain't seeing that type of effect on the defensive thesis.

Speaker 5 (01:57:13):
Hope, who's affected? Man, David Robinson? When you can come
out the gamba?

Speaker 4 (01:57:18):
Who who got the rim? Like that? Bro?

Speaker 5 (01:57:21):
Were you coming there? And you just don't turn around?

Speaker 4 (01:57:24):
Hey? Nine and a half of.

Speaker 2 (01:57:28):
Don't don't you feel me?

Speaker 5 (01:57:29):
I think to call him this year? Also whatever, Actually
Joe was another level.

Speaker 13 (01:57:34):
But man with me Manu Fakin putting a man came in.

Speaker 5 (01:57:40):
I thought it was sweet nah oh tripping. All right,
there you go.

Speaker 3 (01:57:45):
There's the long, long cut of it. Just to really emphasize,
you got ball Pierce.

Speaker 2 (01:57:49):
Saying, I've been telling you and KG a former defensive
player of the Year, how do you only win one?
That's a whole other question for another time. I guess
Jakemba Matumbo might be the answer for some of that.
They're Ryan, but the idea, rookie, hey, earn your stripes.
I know that team wasn't good, they didn't really advance
in the win column, but there's no denying the impact

(01:58:10):
that he had.

Speaker 4 (01:58:12):
He should have got it right, I mean, he should
have gotten dry. Well, here's the thing. Rudy can't guard
the perimeter like Wimby and that we've seen him guard
James Harden the perimeter. Steph Curry, Like you have teams

(01:58:33):
changing their entire strategies for what he brings to the table.
You got, guys, you got like there's like you know,
they're even scared to shoot floaters over him. Okay, that's
how dynamic he is. Hands down, in my opinion, should
have been defensive play of the Year. And then it
was insane. Do you know how listen, I was a

(01:58:54):
shop blocker in the NBA. You know how hard it is.
Do you know how hard it is to like, ain't
somebody shot? You know how impossible that is to just
get a block shot, even when you're a shot blocker
and they know you're going to block the shot. I mean,
this was like nerf hoop basketball that we were watching, Okay,

(01:59:14):
and it was just in the backyard with your kids
play ball, like so he should have been Defensive Player
of the Year. Obviously, Minnesota had the team's success. I
understand that Rudy's had it several times. But the impact
on the game. So when we have a scheme for
a game plan, right, we'll say, okay, you know we
want to move the basketball, they don't move well, or

(01:59:36):
hey you know focus inside. You know, hey, this is
he's a part of the game plan, like, hey, get
in the Peyton shot, fake, no go away.

Speaker 2 (01:59:44):
From But I will say this, no, Ryan, to close
it up after that Lucas shot, he ain't winning again.
He's Ryan Hollins enjoyed the series and the holiday. Appreciate
you appreciate our squad. Dan and Gary coming up next
